Programs & Examples On #Runtime error

A runtime error is detected after or during the execution of a program.

"query function not defined for Select2 undefined error"

In case you initialize an empty input do this:

$(".yourelement").select2({
 data: {
  id: "",
  text: ""
 }
});

Read the first comment below, it explains why and when you should use the code in my answer.

ExpressionChangedAfterItHasBeenCheckedError: Expression has changed after it was checked. Previous value: 'undefined'

I had the same issue trying to do something the same as you and I fixed it with something similar to Richie Fredicson's answer.

When you run createComponent() it is created with undefined input variables. Then after that when you assign data to those input variables it changes things and causes that error in your child template (in my case it was because I was using the input in an ngIf, which changed once I assigned the input data).

The only way I could find to avoid it in this specific case is to force change detection after you assign the data, however I didn't do it in ngAfterContentChecked().

Your example code is a bit hard to follow but if my solution works for you it would be something like this (in the parent component):

export class ParentComponent implements AfterViewInit {
  // I'm assuming you have a WidgetDirective.
  @ViewChild(WidgetDirective) widgetHost: WidgetDirective;

  constructor(
    private componentFactoryResolver: ComponentFactoryResolver,
    private changeDetector: ChangeDetectorRef
  ) {}

  ngAfterViewInit() {
    renderWidgetInsideWidgetContainer();
  }

  renderWidgetInsideWidgetContainer() {
    let component = this.storeFactory.getWidgetComponent(this.dataSource.ComponentName);
    let componentFactory = this.componentFactoryResolver.resolveComponentFactory(component);
    let viewContainerRef = this.widgetHost.viewContainerRef;
    viewContainerRef.clear();
    let componentRef = viewContainerRef.createComponent(componentFactory);
    debugger;
    // This <IDataBind> type you are using here needs to be changed to be the component
    // type you used for the call to resolveComponentFactory() above (if it isn't already).
    // It tells it that this component instance if of that type and then it knows
    // that WidgetDataContext and WidgetPosition are @Inputs for it.
    (<IDataBind>componentRef.instance).WidgetDataContext = this.dataSource.DataContext;
    (<IDataBind>componentRef.instance).WidgetPosition = this.dataSource.Position;
    this.changeDetector.detectChanges();
  }
}

Mine is almost the same as that except I'm using @ViewChildren instead of @ViewChild as I have multiple host elements.

PHP expects T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM?

This is also coming when you apply a constant in PHP to the empty() function:

if (!empty(SOME_CONSTANT)) {

}

That was my case. I solved it by using this:

$string = SOME_CONSTANT;
if (!empty($string)) {

}

Recursion in Python? RuntimeError: maximum recursion depth exceeded while calling a Python object

The error is a stack overflow. That should ring a bell on this site, right? It occurs because a call to poruszanie results in another call to poruszanie, incrementing the recursion depth by 1. The second call results in another call to the same function. That happens over and over again, each time incrementing the recursion depth.

Now, the usable resources of a program are limited. Each function call takes a certain amount of space on top of what is called the stack. If the maximum stack height is reached, you get a stack overflow error.

What causes java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError?

While these answers are all correct, resolving the problem is often more difficult. It's generally the result of two mildly different versions of the same dependency on the classpath, and is almost always caused by either a different superclass than was originally compiled against being on the classpath or some import of the transitive closure being different, but generally at class instantiation and constructor invocation. (After successful class loading and ctor invocation, you'll get NoSuchMethodException or whatnot.)

If the behavior appears random, it's likely the result of a multithreaded program classloading different transitive dependencies based on what code got hit first.

To resolve these, try launching the VM with -verbose as an argument, then look at the classes that were being loaded when the exception occurs. You should see some surprising information. For instance, having multiple copies of the same dependency and versions you never expected or would have accepted if you knew they were being included.

Resolving duplicate jars with Maven is best done with a combination of the maven-dependency-plugin and maven-enforcer-plugin under Maven (or SBT's Dependency Graph Plugin, then adding those jars to a section of your top-level POM or as imported dependency elements in SBT (to remove those dependencies).

Good luck!

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

you can also covert int to str first and assign index to it then again convert it to int like this:

int(str(x)[n]) //where x is an integer value

IE throws JavaScript Error: The value of the property 'googleMapsQuery' is null or undefined, not a Function object (works in other browsers)

Have you tried adding the semicolon to onclick="googleMapsQuery(422111);". I don't have enough of your code to test if the missing semicolon would cause the error, but ie is more picky about syntax.

could not access the package manager. is the system running while installing android application

In my case it was just that the emulator took 9 minutes to start. Wait until you see the lock icon on the emulator LCD. Or use actual tablet or phone.

What causes this error? "Runtime error 380: Invalid property value"

I presume your application uses a masked edit box? This is a relatively well known problem, documented by Microsoft here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177088

The article refers to VB4 and 5, but I am pretty sure the same is true for VB6.

EDIT

On further research, I am finding references to this problem with other controls as well. Recompiling your application on Windows XP for users that are running XP will probably produce them a working version, though it's not an ideal solution...

Unable to run Java GUI programs with Ubuntu

I too had OpenJDK on my Ubuntu machine:

$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_51"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.4.4) (7u51-2.4.4-0ubuntu0.13.04.2)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)

Replacing OpenJDK with the HotSpot VM works fine:

sudo apt-get autoremove openjdk-7-jre-headless

Excel VBA Automation Error: The object invoked has disconnected from its clients

The error in the below line of code (as mentioned by the requestor-William) is due to the following reason:

fromBook.Sheets("Report").Copy Before:=newBook.Sheets("Sheet1")

The destination sheet you are trying to copy to is closed. (Here newbook.Sheets("Sheet1")). Add the below statement just before copying to destination.

Application.Workbooks.Open ("YOUR SHEET NAME")

This will solve the problem!!

what does Error "Thread 1:EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (code=EXC_I386_INVOP, subcode=0x0)" mean?

I got this error while I tried to write to a variable at the same time from different threads. Creating a private queue and making sure one thread at a time can write to that variabele at the same time. It was a dictionary in my case.

NoClassDefFoundError in Java: com/google/common/base/Function

For me, in addition to selecting the jar - selenium-java-2.45.0.jar, I had to select all the jars in the "libs" folder under selenium root folder.

Runtime error: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0

In my case the issue didn't resolve by following any of the above methods. I had all the paths in my package config correct and the dll's were in place as referred, I was still getting run time error for System.Web.WebPages.Razor. I changed the localhost port number and this worked

I am not sure of why I had the issue and why changing the port number resolved it. Just posting this as I feel this might be useful for someone out there.

Null check in VB

Change your Ands to AndAlsos

A standard And will test both expressions. If comp.Container is Nothing, then the second expression will raise a NullReferenceException because you're accessing a property on a null object.

AndAlso will short-circuit the logical evaluation. If comp.Container is Nothing, then the 2nd expression will not be evaluated.

Double free or corruption after queue::push

You need to define a copy constructor, assignment, operator.

class Test {
   Test(const Test &that); //Copy constructor
   Test& operator= (const Test &rhs); //assignment operator
}

Your copy that is pushed on the queue is pointing to the same memory your original is. When the first is destructed, it deletes the memory. The second destructs and tries to delete the same memory.

Android app unable to start activity componentinfo

Your null pointer exception seems to be on this line:

String url = intent.getExtras().getString("userurl");

because intent.getExtras() returns null when the intent doesn't have any extras.

You have to realize that this piece of code:

Intent Main = new Intent(this, ToClass.class);
Main.putExtra("userurl", url);
startActivity(Main);

doesn't start the activity you wrote in Main.java, it will attempt to start an activity called ToClass and if that doesn't exist, your app crashes.

Also, there is no such thing as "android.intent.action.start" so the manifest should look more like:

<activity android:name=".start" android:label="@string/app_name">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
    </intent-filter>
</activity>
<activity android:name= ".Main">
</activity>

I hope this fixes some of the issues you are encountering but I strongly suggest you check out some "getting started" tutorials for android development and build up from there.

It says that TypeError: document.getElementById(...) is null

Make sure the script is placed in the bottom of the BODY element of the document you're trying to manipulate, not in the HEAD element or placed before any of the elements you want to "get".

It does not matter if you import the script or if it's inline, the important thing is the placing. You don't have to put the command inside a function either; while it's good practice you can just call it directly, it works just fine.

and downgrading to Polly v6 was enough to workaround it

No Main class found in NetBeans

Press the hammer to the left of the green arrow (run), for the program to clean & build project. Press green arrow. Select Main Class.

Hope it works for u.

"Error: Main method not found in class MyClass, please define the main method as..."

The problem is that you do not have a public void main(String[] args) method in the class you attempt to invoke.

It

  • must be static
  • must have exactly one String array argument (which may be named anything)
  • must be spelled m-a-i-n in lowercase.

Note, that you HAVE actually specified an existing class (otherwise the error would have been different), but that class lacks the main method.

C++ error : terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'

Something throws an exception of type std::bad_alloc, indicating that you ran out of memory. This exception is propagated through until main, where it "falls off" your program and causes the error message you see.

Since nobody here knows what "RectInvoice", "rectInvoiceVector", "vect", "im" and so on are, we cannot tell you what exactly causes the out-of-memory condition. You didn't even post your real code, because w h looks like a syntax error.

Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException Error

NullPointerExceptions are among the easier exceptions to diagnose, frequently. Whenever you get an exception in Java and you see the stack trace ( that's what your second quote-block is called, by the way ), you read from top to bottom. Often, you will see exceptions that start in Java library code or in native implementations methods, for diagnosis you can just skip past those until you see a code file that you wrote.

Then you like at the line indicated and look at each of the objects ( instantiated classes ) on that line -- one of them was not created and you tried to use it. You can start by looking up in your code to see if you called the constructor on that object. If you didn't, then that's your problem, you need to instantiate that object by calling new Classname( arguments ). Another frequent cause of NullPointerExceptions is accidentally declaring an object with local scope when there is an instance variable with the same name.

In your case, the exception occurred in your constructor for Workshop on line 75. <init> means the constructor for a class. If you look on that line in your code, you'll see the line

denimjeansButton.addItemListener(this);

There are fairly clearly two objects on this line: denimjeansButton and this. this is synonymous with the class instance you are currently in and you're in the constructor, so it can't be this. denimjeansButton is your culprit. You never instantiated that object. Either remove the reference to the instance variable denimjeansButton or instantiate it.

TypeError: Cannot read property "0" from undefined

The while increments the i. So you get:

data[1][0]
data[2][0]
data[3][0]
...

It looks like name doesn't match any of the the elements of data. So, the while still increments and you reach the end of the array. I'll suggest to use for loop.

ValueError: math domain error

you are getting math domain error for either one of the reason : either you are trying to use a negative number inside log function or a zero value.

Can't create handler inside thread that has not called Looper.prepare() inside AsyncTask for ProgressDialog

The method show() must be called from the User-Interface (UI) thread, while doInBackground() runs on different thread which is the main reason why AsyncTask was designed.

You have to call show() either in onProgressUpdate() or in onPostExecute().

For example:

class ExampleTask extends AsyncTask<String, String, String> {

    // Your onPreExecute method.

    @Override
    protected String doInBackground(String... params) {
        // Your code.
        if (condition_is_true) {
            this.publishProgress("Show the dialog");
        }
        return "Result";
    }

    @Override
    protected void onProgressUpdate(String... values) {
        super.onProgressUpdate(values);
        connectionProgressDialog.dismiss();
        downloadSpinnerProgressDialog.show();
    }
}

SOLUTION: to prevent this error(for AWS LAMBDA):

In order to exit of "Nodejs event Loop" you must end the connection, and then reconnect. Add the next code to invoke the callback:

connection.end( function(err) {
        if (err) {console.log("Error ending the connection:",err);}

       // reconnect in order to prevent the"Cannot enqueue Handshake after invoking quit"

         connection = mysql.createConnection({

                user     : 'user',
               password : 'password',
               database : 'target database'

               });
        callback(null, {
            statusCode: 200,
            body: response,

        });

yes its possible.

on linux based systems just install zip and you can call it in the command line. have a look at the manpage: http://linux.die.net/man/1/zip

but in my personal experience, if possible and compression is not so important, this works better with plain tar files and tar.

Dots in URL causes 404 with ASP.NET mvc and IIS

Also, (related) check the order of your handler mappings. We had a .ashx with a .svc (e.g. /foo.asmx/bar.svc/path) in the path after it. The .svc mapping was first so 404 for the .svc path which matched before the .asmx. Havn't thought too much but maybe url encodeing the path would take care of this.

Hide Text with CSS, Best Practice?

If you're willing to accomodate this in your markup (as you are in your question with the holding the text), I'd go with whatever jQuery UI went with in their CSS helpers:

.ui-helper-hidden-accessible {
    position: absolute !important;
    clip: rect(1px 1px 1px 1px);
    clip: rect(1px,1px,1px,1px);
}

The image replacement techniques are good if you absolutely refuse to add extra markup for the text to be hidden in the container for the image.

If conditions in a Makefile, inside a target

There are several problems here, so I'll start with my usual high-level advice: Start small and simple, add complexity a little at a time, test at every step, and never add to code that doesn't work. (I really ought to have that hotkeyed.)

You're mixing Make syntax and shell syntax in a way that is just dizzying. You should never have let it get this big without testing. Let's start from the outside and work inward.

UNAME := $(shell uname -m)

all:
    $(info Checking if custom header is needed)
    ifeq ($(UNAME), x86_64)
    ... do some things to build unistd_32.h
    endif

    @make -C $(KDIR) M=$(PWD) modules

So you want unistd_32.h built (maybe) before you invoke the second make, you can make it a prerequisite. And since you want that only in a certain case, you can put it in a conditional:

ifeq ($(UNAME), x86_64)
all: unistd_32.h
endif

all:
    @make -C $(KDIR) M=$(PWD) modules

unistd_32.h:
    ... do some things to build unistd_32.h

Now for building unistd_32.h:

F1_EXISTS=$(shell [ -e /usr/include/asm/unistd_32.h ] && echo 1 || echo 0 )
ifeq ($(F1_EXISTS), 1)
    $(info Copying custom header)
    $(shell sed -e 's/__NR_/__NR32_/g' /usr/include/asm/unistd_32.h > unistd_32.h)
else
    F2_EXISTS=$(shell [[ -e /usr/include/asm-i386/unistd.h ]] && echo 1 || echo 0 )
    ifeq ($(F2_EXISTS), 1)
        $(info Copying custom header)
        $(shell sed -e 's/__NR_/__NR32_/g' /usr/include/asm-i386/unistd.h > unistd_32.h)
    else
        $(error asm/unistd_32.h and asm-386/unistd.h does not exist)
    endif
endif

You are trying to build unistd.h from unistd_32.h; the only trick is that unistd_32.h could be in either of two places. The simplest way to clean this up is to use a vpath directive:

vpath unistd.h /usr/include/asm /usr/include/asm-i386

unistd_32.h: unistd.h
    sed -e 's/__NR_/__NR32_/g' $< > $@

When should you use constexpr capability in C++11?

It can enable some new optimisations. const traditionally is a hint for the type system, and cannot be used for optimisation (e.g. a const member function can const_cast and modify the object anyway, legally, so const cannot be trusted for optimisation).

constexpr means the expression really is constant, provided the inputs to the function are const. Consider:

class MyInterface {
public:
    int GetNumber() const = 0;
};

If this is exposed in some other module, the compiler can't trust that GetNumber() won't return different values each time it's called - even consecutively with no non-const calls in between - because const could have been cast away in the implementation. (Obviously any programmer who did this ought to be shot, but the language permits it, therefore the compiler must abide by the rules.)

Adding constexpr:

class MyInterface {
public:
    constexpr int GetNumber() const = 0;
};

The compiler can now apply an optimisation where the return value of GetNumber() is cached and eliminate additional calls to GetNumber(), because constexpr is a stronger guarantee that the return value won't change.

How do I cancel form submission in submit button onclick event?

You need onSubmit. Not onClick otherwise someone can just press enter and it will bypass your validation. As for canceling. you need to return false. Here's the code:

<form onSubmit="return btnClick()">
<input type='submit' value='submit request'>

function btnClick() {
    if (!validData()) return false;
}

Edit onSubmit belongs in the form tag.

What is your most productive shortcut with Vim?

(type N, as in the number of times I want to run the macro), @, a

add item to dropdown list in html using javascript

For higher performance, I recommend this:

var select = document.getElementById("year");
var options = [];
var option = document.createElement('option');

//for (var i = 2011; i >= 1900; --i)
for (var i = 1900; i < 2012; ++i)
{
    //var data = '<option value="' + escapeHTML(i) +'">" + escapeHTML(i) + "</option>';
    option.text = option.value = i;
    options.push(option.outerHTML);
}

select.insertAdjacentHTML('beforeEnd', options.join('\n'));

This avoids a redraw after each appendChild, which speeds up the process considerably, especially for a larger number of options.

Optional for generating the string by hand:

function escapeHTML(str)
{
    var div = document.createElement('div');
    var text = document.createTextNode(str);
    div.appendChild(text);
    return div.innerHTML;
}

However, I would not use these kind of methods at all.
It seems crude. You best do this with a documentFragment:

var docfrag = document.createDocumentFragment();

for (var i = 1900; i < 2012; ++i)
{
     docfrag.appendChild(new Option(i, i));
}

var select = document.getElementById("year");
select.appendChild(docfrag);

Virtualhost For Wildcard Subdomain and Static Subdomain

<VirtualHost *:80>
  DocumentRoot /var/www/app1
  ServerName app1.example.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
  DocumentRoot /var/www/example
  ServerName example.com
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
  DocumentRoot /var/www/wildcard
  ServerName other.example.com
  ServerAlias *.example.com
</VirtualHost>

Should work. The first entry will become the default if you don't get an explicit match. So if you had app.otherexample.com point to it, it would be caught be app1.example.com.

Iteration over std::vector: unsigned vs signed index variable

In the specific case in your example, I'd use the STL algorithms to accomplish this.

#include <numeric>

sum = std::accumulate( polygon.begin(), polygon.end(), 0 );

For a more general, but still fairly simple case, I'd go with:

#include <boost/lambda/lambda.hpp>
#include <boost/lambda/bind.hpp>

using namespace boost::lambda;
std::for_each( polygon.begin(), polygon.end(), sum += _1 );

    return dateFormat.format(date);

Can the :not() pseudo-class have multiple arguments?

Starting from CSS Selectors 4 using multiple arguments in the :not selector becomes possible (see here).

In CSS3, the :not selector only allows 1 selector as an argument. In level 4 selectors, it can take a selector list as an argument.

Example:

/* In this example, all p elements will be red, except for
   the first child and the ones with the class special. */

p:not(:first-child, .special) {
  color: red;
}

Unfortunately, browser support is limited. For now, it only works in Safari.

Test whether string is a valid integer

For laughs I roughly just quickly worked out a set of functions to do this (is_string, is_int, is_float, is alpha string, or other) but there are more efficient (less code) ways to do this:

Run through some tests here, I defined that -44 is an int but 44- isn't etc.. :

for num in "44" "-44" "44-" "4-4" "a4" "4a" ".4" "4.4" "-4.4" "09" "hello" "h3llo!" "!!" " " "" ; do
    if is_int "$num" ;then

    elif is_string "$num" ; then

    elif is_strict_string "$num" ; then
        echo "STRICT STRING = $num"
    else
        echo "OTHER = $num"
    fi
done

Output:

INT = 44
INT = -44
STRING = 44-
STRING = 4-4
STRING = a4
STRING = 4a
FLOAT = .4
FLOAT = 4.4
FLOAT = -4.4
INT = 09
STRICT STRING = hello
STRING = h3llo!
STRING = !!
OTHER =
OTHER =

NOTE: Leading 0's could infer something else when adding numbers such as octal so it would be better to strip them if you intend on treating '09' as an int (which I'm doing) (eg expr 09 + 0 or strip with sed)

How to maintain a Unique List in Java?

I want to clarify some things here for the original poster which others have alluded to but haven't really explicitly stated. When you say that you want a Unique List, that is the very definition of an Ordered Set. Some other key differences between the Set Interface and the List interface are that List allows you to specify the insert index. So, the question is do you really need the List Interface (i.e. for compatibility with a 3rd party library, etc.), or can you redesign your software to use the Set interface? You also have to consider what you are doing with the interface. Is it important to find elements by their index? How many elements do you expect in your set? If you are going to have many elements, is ordering important?

If you really need a List which just has a unique constraint, there is the Apache Common Utils class org.apache.commons.collections.list.SetUniqueList which will provide you with the List interface and the unique constraint. Mind you, this breaks the List interface though. You will, however, get better performance from this if you need to seek into the list by index. If you can deal with the Set interface, and you have a smaller data set, then LinkedHashSet might be a good way to go. It just depends on the design and intent of your software.

Again, there are certain advantages and disadvantages to each collection. Some fast inserts but slow reads, some have fast reads but slow inserts, etc. It makes sense to spend a fair amount of time with the collections documentation to fully learn about the finer details of each class and interface.

Add a list item through javascript

I was recently presented with this same challenge and stumbled on this thread but found a simpler solution using append...

var firstname = $('#firstname').val();

$('ol').append( '<li>' + firstname + '</li>' );

Store the firstname value and then use append to add that value as an li to the ol. I hope this helps :)

Why should I use a pointer rather than the object itself?

Object *myObject = new Object;

Doing this will create a reference to an Object (on the heap) which has to be deleted explicitly to avoid memory leak.

Object myObject;

Doing this will create an object(myObject) of the automatic type (on the stack) that will be automatically deleted when the object(myObject) goes out of scope.

How do I increase the contrast of an image in Python OpenCV

Brightness and contrast can be adjusted using alpha (a) and beta (ß), respectively. The expression can be written as

enter image description here

OpenCV already implements this as cv2.convertScaleAbs(), just provide user defined alpha and beta values

import cv2

image = cv2.imread('1.jpg')

alpha = 1.5 # Contrast control (1.0-3.0)
beta = 0 # Brightness control (0-100)

adjusted = cv2.convertScaleAbs(image, alpha=alpha, beta=beta)

cv2.imshow('original', image)
cv2.imshow('adjusted', adjusted)
cv2.waitKey()

Before -> After

Note: For automatic brightness/contrast adjustment take a look at automatic contrast and brightness adjustment of a color photo

Find specific string in a text file with VBS script

I'd recommend using a regular expressions instead of string operations for this:

Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

filename = "C:\VBS\filediprova.txt"

newtext = vbLf & "<tr><td><a href=""..."">Beginning_of_DD_TC5</a></td></tr>"

Set re = New RegExp
re.Pattern = "(\n.*?Test Case \d)"
re.Global  = False
re.IgnoreCase = True

text = f.OpenTextFile(filename).ReadAll
f.OpenTextFile(filename, 2).Write re.Replace(text, newText & "$1")

The regular expression will match a line feed (\n) followed by a line containing the string Test Case followed by a number (\d), and the replacement will prepend that with the text you want to insert (variable newtext). Setting re.Global = False makes the replacement stop after the first match.

If the line breaks in your text file are encoded as CR-LF (carriage return + line feed) you'll have to change \n into \r\n and vbLf into vbCrLf.

If you have to modify several text files, you could do it in a loop like this:

For Each f In fso.GetFolder("C:\VBS").Files
  If LCase(fso.GetExtensionName(f.Name)) = "txt" Then
    text = f.OpenAsTextStream.ReadAll
    f.OpenAsTextStream(2).Write re.Replace(text, newText & "$1")
  End If
Next

Print line numbers starting at zero using awk

NR starts at 1, so use

awk '{print NR-1 "," $0}'

Python vs Cpython

The original, and standard, implementation of Python is usually called CPython when you want to contrast it with the other options (and just plain “Python” otherwise). This name comes from the fact that it is coded in portable ANSI C language code. This is the Python that you fetch from http://www.python.org, get with the ActivePython and Enthought distributions, and have automatically on most Linux and Mac OS X machines. If you’ve found a preinstalled version of Python on your machine, it’s probably CPython, unless your company or organization is using Python in more specialized ways.

Unless you want to script Java or .NET applications with Python or find the benefits of Stackless or PyPy compelling, you probably want to use the standard CPython system. Because it is the reference implementation of the language, it tends to run the fastest, be the most complete, and be more up-to-date and robust than the alternative systems.

rsync copy over only certain types of files using include option

One more addition: if you need to sync files by its extensions in one dir only (without of recursion) you should use a construction like this:

rsync -auzv --include './' --include '*.ext' --exclude '*' /source/dir/ /destination/dir/

Pay your attention to the dot in the first --include. --no-r does not work in this construction.

EDIT:

Thanks to gbyte.co for the valuable comment!

Is there a way to return a list of all the image file names from a folder using only Javascript?

Many tricks work, but the Ajax request split the file name at 19 characters? Look at the output of the ajax request to see that:

The file name is okay to go into the href attribute, but the $(this).attr("href") use the text of the <a href='full/file/name' > Split file name </a>

So the $(data).find("a:contains(.jpg)") is not able to detect the extension.

I hope this is useful

Accessing last x characters of a string in Bash

You can use tail:

$ foo="1234567890"
$ echo -n $foo | tail -c 3
890

A somewhat roundabout way to get the last three characters would be to say:

echo $foo | rev | cut -c1-3 | rev

Plot multiple lines in one graph

You should bring your data into long (i.e. molten) format to use it with ggplot2:

library("reshape2")
mdf <- melt(mdf, id.vars="Company", value.name="value", variable.name="Year")

And then you have to use aes( ... , group = Company ) to group them:

ggplot(data=mdf, aes(x=Year, y=value, group = Company, colour = Company)) +
    geom_line() +
    geom_point( size=4, shape=21, fill="white")

Can table columns with a Foreign Key be NULL?

Yes, you can enforce the constraint only when the value is not NULL. This can be easily tested with the following example:

CREATE DATABASE t;
USE t;

CREATE TABLE parent (id INT NOT NULL,
                     PRIMARY KEY (id)
) ENGINE=INNODB;

CREATE TABLE child (id INT NULL,
                    parent_id INT NULL,
                    FOREIGN KEY (parent_id) REFERENCES parent(id)
) ENGINE=INNODB;

INSERT INTO child (id, parent_id) VALUES (1, NULL);
-- Query OK, 1 row affected (0.01 sec)

INSERT INTO child (id, parent_id) VALUES (2, 1);

-- ERROR 1452 (23000): Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key
-- constraint fails (`t/child`, CONSTRAINT `child_ibfk_1` FOREIGN KEY
-- (`parent_id`) REFERENCES `parent` (`id`))

The first insert will pass because we insert a NULL in the parent_id. The second insert fails because of the foreign key constraint, since we tried to insert a value that does not exist in the parent table.

How can I change NULL to 0 when getting a single value from a SQL function?

You can use ISNULL().

Do I need to explicitly call the base virtual destructor?

Destructors in C++ automatically gets called in the order of their constructions (Derived then Base) only when the Base class destructor is declared virtual.

If not, then only the base class destructor is invoked at the time of object deletion.

Example: Without virtual Destructor

#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

class Base{
public:
  Base(){
    cout << "Base Constructor \n";
  }

  ~Base(){
    cout << "Base Destructor \n";
  }

};

class Derived: public Base{
public:
  int *n;
  Derived(){
    cout << "Derived Constructor \n";
    n = new int(10);
  }

  void display(){
    cout<< "Value: "<< *n << endl;
  }

  ~Derived(){
    cout << "Derived Destructor \n";
  }
};

int main() {

 Base *obj = new Derived(); //Derived object with base pointer
 delete(obj);   //Deleting object
 return 0;

}

Output

Base Constructor
Derived Constructor
Base Destructor

Example: With Base virtual Destructor

#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

class Base{
public:
  Base(){
    cout << "Base Constructor \n";
  }

  //virtual destructor
  virtual ~Base(){
    cout << "Base Destructor \n";
  }

};

class Derived: public Base{
public:
  int *n;
  Derived(){
    cout << "Derived Constructor \n";
    n = new int(10);
  }

  void display(){
    cout<< "Value: "<< *n << endl;
  }

  ~Derived(){
    cout << "Derived Destructor \n";
    delete(n); //deleting the memory used by pointer
  }
};

int main() {

 Base *obj = new Derived(); //Derived object with base pointer
 delete(obj);   //Deleting object
 return 0;

}

Output

Base Constructor
Derived Constructor
Derived Destructor
Base Destructor

It is recommended to declare base class destructor as virtual otherwise, it causes undefined behavior.

Why does Lua have no "continue" statement?

I've never used Lua before, but I Googled it and came up with this:

http://www.luafaq.org/

Check question 1.26.

This is a common complaint. The Lua authors felt that continue was only one of a number of possible new control flow mechanisms (the fact that it cannot work with the scope rules of repeat/until was a secondary factor.)

In Lua 5.2, there is a goto statement which can be easily used to do the same job.

Using android.support.v7.widget.CardView in my project (Eclipse)

}

And sync the project with gradle.

How to get access to job parameters from ItemReader, in Spring Batch?

Complement with an additional example, you can access all job parameters in JavaConfig class:

@Bean
@StepScope
public ItemStreamReader<GenericMessage> reader(@Value("#{jobParameters}") Map<String,Object> jobParameters){
          ....
}

Case-insensitive search

You can make everything lowercase:

var string="Stackoverflow is the BEST";
var searchstring="best";
var result= (string.toLowerCase()).search((searchstring.toLowerCase()));
alert(result);

Laravel 5 Class 'form' not found

In Laravel Version - 4, HTML and Form existed, but not now.

Why:

The only reason is they have collected some user requirements and they want it more lightweight and so they removed it as in the sense that a user can add it manually.

What to do to add HTML & Forms in Laravel 5.2 or 5.3:

For 5.2:

Go to the Laravel Collective site and installation processes have demonstrated their.

Like for 5.2: on the command line, run the command

composer require "laravelcollective/html":"^5.2.0"

Then, in the provider array which is in config/app.php. Add this line at last using a comma(,):

Collective\Html\HtmlServiceProvider::class,

For using HTML and FORM text we need to alias them in the aliases array of config/app.php. Add the two lines at the last

'Form' => Collective\Html\FormFacade::class,
'Html' => Collective\Html\HtmlFacade::class,

And for 5.3:

Just run the command

composer require "laravelcollective/html":"^5.3.0"

And the rest of the procedure is like 5.2.

Then you can use Laravel Form and other HTML links in your projects. For this, follow this documentation:

5.2: https://laravelcollective.com/docs/5.2/html

5.3: https://laravelcollective.com/docs/5.3/html

Demo Code:

To open a form, open and close a tag:

{!! Form::open(['url' => 'foo/bar']) !!}

{!! Form::close() !!}

And for creating label and input text with a Bootstrap form-control class and other use:

{!! Form::label('title', 'Post Title') !!}
{!! Form::text('title', null, array('class' => 'form-control')) !!}

And for more, use the documentation, https://laravelcollective.com/.

Error checking for NULL in VBScript

From your code, it looks like provider is a variant or some other variable, and not an object.

Is Nothing is for objects only, yet later you say it's a value that should either be NULL or NOT NULL, which would be handled by IsNull.

Try using:

If Not IsNull(provider) Then
    url = url & "&provider=" & provider
End if

Alternately, if that doesn't work, try:

If provider <> "" Then
    url = url & "&provider=" & provider
End if

Bootstrap 3 - jumbotron background image effect

Example: http://bootply.com/103783

One way to achieve this is using a position:fixed container for the background image and place it outside of the .jumbotron. Make the bg container the same height as the .jumbotron and center the background image:

background: url('/assets/example/...jpg') no-repeat center center;

CSS

.bg {
  background: url('/assets/example/bg_blueplane.jpg') no-repeat center center;
  position: fixed;
  width: 100%;
  height: 350px; /*same height as jumbotron */
  top:0;
  left:0;
  z-index: -1;
}

.jumbotron {
  margin-bottom: 0px;
  height: 350px;
  color: white;
  text-shadow: black 0.3em 0.3em 0.3em;
  background:transparent;
}

Then use jQuery to decrease the height of the .jumbtron as the window scrolls. Since the background image is centered in the DIV it will adjust accordingly -- creating a parallax affect.

JavaScript

var jumboHeight = $('.jumbotron').outerHeight();
function parallax(){
    var scrolled = $(window).scrollTop();
    $('.bg').css('height', (jumboHeight-scrolled) + 'px');
}

$(window).scroll(function(e){
    parallax();
});

how to include glyphicons in bootstrap 3

I think your particular problem isn't how to use Glyphicons but understanding how Bootstrap files work together.

Bootstrap requires a specific file structure to work. I see from your code you have this:

<link href="bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">

Your Bootstrap.css is being loaded from the same location as your page, this would create a problem if you didn't adjust your file structure.

But first, let me recommend you setup your folder structure like so:

/css      <-- Bootstrap.css here
/fonts    <-- Bootstrap fonts here
/img
/js       <-- Bootstrap JavaScript here
index.html

If you notice, this is also how Bootstrap structures its files in its download ZIP.

You then include your Bootstrap file like so:

<link href="css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">
or
<link href="./css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">
or
<link href="/css/bootstrap.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">

Depending on your server structure or what you're going for.

The first and second are relative to your file's current directory. The second one is just more explicit by saying "here" (./) first then css folder (/css).

The third is good if you're running a web server, and you can just use relative to root notation as the leading "/" will be always start at the root folder.

So, why do this?

Bootstrap.css has this specific line for Glyphfonts:

@font-face {
    font-family: 'Glyphicons Halflings';
    src: url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.eot');
    src: url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff') format('woff'), url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.ttf') format('truetype'), url('../fonts/glyphicons-halflings-regular.svg#glyphicons-halflingsregular') format('svg');
}

What you can see is that that Glyphfonts are loaded by going up one directory ../ and then looking for a folder called /fonts and THEN loading the font file.

The URL address is relative to the location of the CSS file. So, if your CSS file is at the same location like this:

/fonts
Bootstrap.css
index.html

The CSS file is going one level deeper than looking for a /fonts folder.

So, let's say the actual location of these files are:

C:\www\fonts
C:\www\Boostrap.css
C:\www\index.html

The CSS file would technically be looking for a folder at:

C:\fonts

but your folder is actually in:

C:\www\fonts

So see if that helps. You don't have to do anything 'special' to load Bootstrap Glyphicons, except make sure your folder structure is set up appropriately.

When you get that fixed, your HTML should simply be:

<span class="glyphicon glyphicon-comment"></span>

Note, you need both classes. The first class glyphicon sets up the basic styles while glyphicon-comment sets the specific image.

Difference between agile and iterative and incremental development

Iterative development implies revisiting usual waterfall model steps over the course of product lifetime. The stages can even overlap, i.e. while doing end-to-end testing you could already start preparing new requirements.

Incremental development means you roadmap your features and implement them incrementally.

Agile aims at creating "potentially shippable product" after every sprint. How you achieve it is a different story. Agile tries to employ "best" techniques from various fields (e.g. extreme programming). Agile does not exclude running neither incremental nor iterative development.

How to UPSERT (MERGE, INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE UPDATE) in PostgreSQL?

9.5 and newer:

PostgreSQL 9.5 and newer support INSERT ... ON CONFLICT (key) DO UPDATE (and ON CONFLICT (key) DO NOTHING), i.e. upsert.

Comparison with ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE.

Quick explanation.

For usage see the manual - specifically the conflict_action clause in the syntax diagram, and the explanatory text.

Unlike the solutions for 9.4 and older that are given below, this feature works with multiple conflicting rows and it doesn't require exclusive locking or a retry loop.

The commit adding the feature is here and the discussion around its development is here.

If you're on 9.5 and don't need to be backward-compatible you can stop reading now.

9.4 and older:

PostgreSQL doesn't have any built-in UPSERT (or MERGE) facility, and doing it efficiently in the face of concurrent use is very difficult.

This article discusses the problem in useful detail.

In general you must choose between two options:

  • Individual insert/update operations in a retry loop; or
  • Locking the table and doing batch merge

Individual row retry loop

Using individual row upserts in a retry loop is the reasonable option if you want many connections concurrently trying to perform inserts.

The PostgreSQL documentation contains a useful procedure that'll let you do this in a loop inside the database. It guards against lost updates and insert races, unlike most naive solutions. It will only work in READ COMMITTED mode and is only safe if it's the only thing you do in the transaction, though. The function won't work correctly if triggers or secondary unique keys cause unique violations.

This strategy is very inefficient. Whenever practical you should queue up work and do a bulk upsert as described below instead.

Many attempted solutions to this problem fail to consider rollbacks, so they result in incomplete updates. Two transactions race with each other; one of them successfully INSERTs; the other gets a duplicate key error and does an UPDATE instead. The UPDATE blocks waiting for the INSERT to rollback or commit. When it rolls back, the UPDATE condition re-check matches zero rows, so even though the UPDATE commits it hasn't actually done the upsert you expected. You have to check the result row counts and re-try where necessary.

Some attempted solutions also fail to consider SELECT races. If you try the obvious and simple:

-- THIS IS WRONG. DO NOT COPY IT. It's an EXAMPLE.

BEGIN;

UPDATE testtable
SET somedata = 'blah'
WHERE id = 2;

-- Remember, this is WRONG. Do NOT COPY IT.

INSERT INTO testtable (id, somedata)
SELECT 2, 'blah'
WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM testtable WHERE testtable.id = 2);

COMMIT;

then when two run at once there are several failure modes. One is the already discussed issue with an update re-check. Another is where both UPDATE at the same time, matching zero rows and continuing. Then they both do the EXISTS test, which happens before the INSERT. Both get zero rows, so both do the INSERT. One fails with a duplicate key error.

This is why you need a re-try loop. You might think that you can prevent duplicate key errors or lost updates with clever SQL, but you can't. You need to check row counts or handle duplicate key errors (depending on the chosen approach) and re-try.

Please don't roll your own solution for this. Like with message queuing, it's probably wrong.

Bulk upsert with lock

Sometimes you want to do a bulk upsert, where you have a new data set that you want to merge into an older existing data set. This is vastly more efficient than individual row upserts and should be preferred whenever practical.

In this case, you typically follow the following process:

  • CREATE a TEMPORARY table

  • COPY or bulk-insert the new data into the temp table

  • LOCK the target table IN EXCLUSIVE MODE. This permits other transactions to SELECT, but not make any changes to the table.

  • Do an UPDATE ... FROM of existing records using the values in the temp table;

  • Do an INSERT of rows that don't already exist in the target table;

  • COMMIT, releasing the lock.

For example, for the example given in the question, using multi-valued INSERT to populate the temp table:

BEGIN;

CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE newvals(id integer, somedata text);

INSERT INTO newvals(id, somedata) VALUES (2, 'Joe'), (3, 'Alan');

LOCK TABLE testtable IN EXCLUSIVE MODE;

UPDATE testtable
SET somedata = newvals.somedata
FROM newvals
WHERE newvals.id = testtable.id;

INSERT INTO testtable
SELECT newvals.id, newvals.somedata
FROM newvals
LEFT OUTER JOIN testtable ON (testtable.id = newvals.id)
WHERE testtable.id IS NULL;

COMMIT;

What about MERGE?

SQL-standard MERGE actually has poorly defined concurrency semantics and is not suitable for upserting without locking a table first.

It's a really useful OLAP statement for data merging, but it's not actually a useful solution for concurrency-safe upsert. There's lots of advice to people using other DBMSes to use MERGE for upserts, but it's actually wrong.

Highcharts - redraw() vs. new Highcharts.chart

var newData = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7];
var chart = $('#chartjs').highcharts();
chart.series[0].setData(newData, true);

Explanation:
Variable newData contains value that want to update in chart. Variable chart is an object of a chart. setData is a method provided by highchart to update data.

Method setData contains two parameters, in first parameter we need to pass new value as array and second param is Boolean value. If true then chart updates itself and if false then we have to use redraw() method to update chart (i.e chart.redraw();)

casting int to char using C++ style casting

You should use static_cast<char>(i) to cast the integer i to char.

reinterpret_cast should almost never be used, unless you want to cast one type into a fundamentally different type.

Also reinterpret_cast is machine dependent so safely using it requires complete understanding of the types as well as how the compiler implements the cast.

For more information about C++ casting see:

Does JavaScript have the interface type (such as Java's 'interface')?

This is an old question, nevertheless this topic never ceases to bug me.

As many of the answers here and across the web focus on "enforcing" the interface, I'd like to suggest an alternative view:

I feel the lack of interfaces the most when I'm using multiple classes that behave similarly (i.e. implement an interface).

For example, I have an Email Generator that expects to receive Email Sections Factories, that "know" how to generate the sections' content and HTML. Hence, they all need to have some sort of getContent(id) and getHtml(content) methods.

The closest pattern to interfaces (albeit it's still a workaround) I could think of is using a class that'll get 2 arguments, which will define the 2 interface methods.

The main challenge with this pattern is that the methods either have to be static, or to get as argument the instance itself, in order to access its properties. However there are cases in which I find this trade-off worth the hassle.

Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 Offline Installer (ISO)

The ISO file that suggested in the accepted answer is still not complete. The very complete offline installer is about 24GB! There is only one way to get it. follow these steps:

  1. Download Web Installer from Microsoft Web Site
  2. Execute the Installer. NOTE: the installer is still a simple downloader for the real web-installer.
  3. After running the real web installer, Run Windows Task manager and find the real web installer path that is stored in your temp folder
  4. copy the real installer somewhere else. like C:\VS Community\
  5. Open Command Prompt and execute the installer that you copied to C:\VS Community\ with this argument: /Layout .
  6. Now installer will download the FULL offline installer to your selected folder!

What is meant by the term "hook" in programming?

A hook is functionality provided by software for users of that software to have their own code called under certain circumstances. That code can augment or replace the current code.

In the olden days when computers were truly personal and viruses were less prevalent (I'm talking the '80's), it was as simple as patching the operating system software itself to call your code. I remember writing an extension to the Applesoft BASIC language on the Apple II which simply hooked my code into the BASIC interpreter by injecting a call to my code before any of the line was processed.

Some computers had pre-designed hooks, one example being the I/O stream on the Apple II. It used such a hook to inject the whole disk sub-system (Apple II ROMs were originally built in the days where cassettes were the primary storage medium for PCs). You controlled the disks by printing the ASCII code 4 (CTRL-D) followed by the command you wanted to execute then a CR, and it was intercepted by the disk sub-system, which had hooked itself into the Apple ROM print routines.

So for example, the lines:

PRINT CHR(4);"CATALOG"
PRINT CHR(4);"IN#6"

would list the disk contents then re-initialize the machine. This allowed such tricks as protecting your BASIC programs by setting the first line as:

123 REM XIN#6

then using POKE to insert the CTRL-D character in where the X was. Then, anyone trying to list your source would send the re-initialize sequence through the output routines where the disk sub-system would detect it.

That's often the sort of trickery we had to resort to, to get the behavior we wanted.

Nowadays, with the operating system more secure, it provides facilities for hooks itself, since you're no longer supposed to modify the operating system "in-flight" or on the disk.

They've been around for a long time. Mainframes had them (called exits) and a great deal of mainframe software uses those facilities even now. For example, the free source code control system that comes with z/OS (called SCLM) allows you to entirely replace the security subsystem by simply placing your own code in the exit.

Best Way to View Generated Source of Webpage?

Justin is dead on. The key point here is that HTML is just a language for describing a document. Once the browser reads it, it's gone. Open tags, close tags, and formatting are all taken care of by the parser and then go away. Any tool that shows you HTML is generating it based on the contents of the document, so it will always be valid.

I had to explain this to another web developer once, and it took a little while for him to accept it.

You can try it for yourself in any JavaScript console:

el = document.createElement('div');
el.innerHTML = "<p>Some text<P>More text";
el.innerHTML; // <p>Some text</p><p>More text</p>

The un-closed tags and uppercase tag names are gone, because that HTML was parsed and discarded after the second line.

The right way to modify the document from JavaScript is with document methods (createElement, appendChild, setAttribute, etc.) and you'll observe that there's no reference to tags or HTML syntax in any of those functions. If you're using document.write, innerHTML, or other HTML-speaking calls to modify your pages, the only way to validate it is to catch what you're putting into them and validate that HTML separately.

That said, the simplest way to get at the HTML representation of the document is this:

document.documentElement.innerHTML

My way are:

react-native start

After that in your device using:

See in console react-native, it will be fetch js bundle data.

How to apply a function to two columns of Pandas dataframe

I'm going to put in a vote for np.vectorize. It allows you to just shoot over x number of columns and not deal with the dataframe in the function, so it's great for functions you don't control or doing something like sending 2 columns and a constant into a function (i.e. col_1, col_2, 'foo').

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'ID':['1','2','3'], 'col_1': [0,2,3], 'col_2':[1,4,5]})
mylist = ['a','b','c','d','e','f']

def get_sublist(sta,end):
    return mylist[sta:end+1]

#df['col_3'] = df[['col_1','col_2']].apply(get_sublist,axis=1)
# expect above to output df as below

df.loc[:,'col_3'] = np.vectorize(get_sublist, otypes=["O"]) (df['col_1'], df['col_2'])

df

ID  col_1   col_2   col_3
0   1   0   1   [a, b]
1   2   2   4   [c, d, e]
2   3   3   5   [d, e, f]

Daylight saving time and time zone best practices

  • Never, ever store local time without its UTC offset (or a reference to the time zone)—examples of how not to do it include FAT32 and struct tm in C.¹
  • Understand that a time zone is a combination of
    • a set of UTC offsets (e.g. +0100 in winter, +0200 in summer)
    • rules for when the switchover happens (which may change over time: for example, in the 1990s the EU harmonized the switchover as being on the last Sundays in March and October, at 02:00 standard time/03:00 DST; previously this differed between member states).

¹ Some implementations of struct tm do store the UTC offset, but this has not made it into the standard.

Create two-dimensional arrays and access sub-arrays in Ruby

Here's a 3D array case

class Array3D
   def initialize(d1,d2,d3)
    @data = Array.new(d1) { Array.new(d2) { Array.new(d3) } }
   end

  def [](x, y, z)
    @data[x][y][z]
  end

  def []=(x, y, z, value)
    @data[x][y][z] = value
  end
end

You can access subsections of each array just like any other Ruby array. @data[0..2][3..5][8..10] = 0 etc

Change drawable color programmatically

You could try a ColorMatrixColorFilter, since your key color is white:

// Assuming "color" is your target color
float r = Color.red(color) / 255f;
float g = Color.green(color) / 255f;
float b = Color.blue(color) / 255f;

ColorMatrix cm = new ColorMatrix(new float[] {
        // Change red channel
        r, 0, 0, 0, 0,
        // Change green channel
        0, g, 0, 0, 0,
        // Change blue channel
        0, 0, b, 0, 0,
        // Keep alpha channel
        0, 0, 0, 1, 0,
});
ColorMatrixColorFilter cf = new ColorMatrixColorFilter(cm);
myDrawable.setColorFilter(cf);

The first works for all conditions the second for all but part2(using GNU sed 4.1.5)

Do HTTP POST methods send data as a QueryString?

The best way to visualize this is to use a packet analyzer like Wireshark and follow the TCP stream. HTTP simply uses TCP to send a stream of data starting with a few lines of HTTP headers. Often this data is easy to read because it consists of HTML, CSS, or XML, but it can be any type of data that gets transfered over the internet (Executables, Images, Video, etc).

For a GET request, your computer requests a specific URL and the web server usually responds with a 200 status code and the the content of the webpage is sent directly after the HTTP response headers. This content is the same content you would see if you viewed the source of the webpage in your browser. The query string you mentioned is just part of the URL and gets included in the HTTP GET request header that your computer sends to the web server. Below is an example of an HTTP GET request to http://accel91.citrix.com:8000/OA_HTML/OALogout.jsp?menu=Y, followed by a 302 redirect response from the server. Some of the HTTP Headers are wrapped due to the size of the viewing window (these really only take one line each), and the 302 redirect includes a simple HTML webpage with a link to the redirected webpage (Most browsers will automatically redirect any 302 response to the URL listed in the Location header instead of displaying the HTML response):

HTTP GET with 302 redirect

For a POST request, you may still have a query string, but this is uncommon and does not have anything to do with the data that you are POSTing. Instead, the data is included directly after the HTTP headers that your browser sends to the server, similar to the 200 response that the web server uses to respond to a GET request. In the case of POSTing a simple web form this data is encoded using the same URL encoding that a query string uses, but if you are using a SOAP web service it could also be encoded using a multi-part MIME format and XML data.

For example here is what an HTTP POST to an XML based SOAP web service located at http://192.168.24.23:8090/msh looks like in Wireshark Follow TCP Stream:

HTTP POST TCP Stream

How to correctly use the ASP.NET FileUpload control

I have noticed that when intellisence doesn't work for an object there is usually an error somewhere in the class above line you are working on.

The other option is that you didn't instantiated the FileUpload object as an instance variable. make sure the code:

FileUpload fileUpload = new FileUpload();

is not inside a function in your code behind.

How do I create a file and write to it?

Reading collection with customers and saving to file, with JFilechooser.

private void writeFile(){

    JFileChooser fileChooser = new JFileChooser(this.PATH);
    int retValue = fileChooser.showDialog(this, "Save File");

    if (retValue == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION){

        try (Writer fileWrite = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(fileChooser.getSelectedFile())))){

            this.customers.forEach((c) ->{
                try{
                    fileWrite.append(c.toString()).append("\n");
                }
                catch (IOException ex){
                    ex.printStackTrace();
                }
            });
        }
        catch (IOException e){
            e.printStackTrace();
        }

Secure Web Services: REST over HTTPS vs SOAP + WS-Security. Which is better?

See the wiki article:

In point-to-point situations confidentiality and data integrity can also be enforced on Web services through the use of Transport Layer Security (TLS), for example, by sending messages over https.

WS-Security however addresses the wider problem of maintaining integrity and confidentiality of messages until after a message was sent from the originating node, providing so called end to end security.

That is:

  • HTTPS is a transport layer (point-to-point) security mechanism
  • WS-Security is an application layer (end-to-end) security mechanism.

Django values_list vs values

The values() method returns a QuerySet containing dictionaries:

<QuerySet [{'comment_id': 1}, {'comment_id': 2}]>

The values_list() method returns a QuerySet containing tuples:

<QuerySet [(1,), (2,)]>

If you are using values_list() with a single field, you can use flat=True to return a QuerySet of single values instead of 1-tuples:

<QuerySet [1, 2]>

How to access pandas groupby dataframe by key

You can use the get_group method:

In [21]: gb.get_group('foo')
Out[21]:
     A         B   C
0  foo  1.624345   5
2  foo -0.528172  11
4  foo  0.865408  14

Note: This doesn't require creating an intermediary dictionary / copy of every subdataframe for every group, so will be much more memory-efficient than creating the naive dictionary with dict(iter(gb)). This is because it uses data-structures already available in the groupby object.

You can select different columns using the groupby slicing:

In [22]: gb[["A", "B"]].get_group("foo")
Out[22]:
     A         B
0  foo  1.624345
2  foo -0.528172
4  foo  0.865408

In [23]: gb["C"].get_group("foo")
Out[23]:
0     5
2    11
4    14
Name: C, dtype: int64

Bootstrap Dropdown with Hover

Updated with a proper plugin

I have published a proper plugin for the dropdown hover functionality, in which you can even define what happens when clicking on the dropdown-toggle element:

https://github.com/istvan-ujjmeszaros/bootstrap-dropdown-hover

Why I made it, when there are many solutions already?

I had issues with all the previously existing solutions. The simple CSS ones are not using the .open class on the .dropdown, so there will be no feedback on the dropdown toggle element when the dropdown is visible.

The js ones are interfering with clicking on .dropdown-toggle, so the dropdown shows up on hover, then hides it when clicking on an opened dropdown, and moving out the mouse will trigger the dropdown to show up again. Some of the js solutions are braking iOS compatibility, some plugins are not working on modern desktop browsers which are supporting the touch events.

That's why I made the Bootstrap Dropdown Hover plugin which prevents all these issues by using only the standard Bootstrap javascript API, without any hack.

How to launch html using Chrome at "--allow-file-access-from-files" mode?

That flag is dangerous!! Leaves your file system open for access. Documents originating from anywhere, local or web, should not, by default, have any access to local file:/// resources.

Much better solution is to run a little http server locally.

--- For Windows ---

The easiest is to install http-server globally using node's package manager:

npm install -g http-server

Then simply run http-server in any of your project directories:

Eg. d:\my_project> http-server

Starting up http-server, serving ./
Available on:
 http:169.254.116.232:8080
 http:192.168.88.1:8080
 http:192.168.0.7:8080
 http:127.0.0.1:8080
Hit CTRL-C to stop the server

Or as prusswan suggested, you can also install Python under windows, and follow the instructions below.

--- For Linux ---

Since Python is usually available in most linux distributions, just run python -m SimpleHTTPServer in your project directory, and you can load your page on http://localhost:8000

In Python 3 the SimpleHTTPServer module has been merged into http.server, so the new command is python3 -m http.server.

Easy, and no security risk of accidentally leaving your browser open vulnerable.

Edit This answer got down voted as value in my example is a string, where as the question asked for an int. My applogies; the following should be a bit clearer :-)

Type fooType = typeof(foo);

if (Enum.IsDefined(fooType , value.ToString()))
{
   return (Foo)Enum.Parse(fooType , value.ToString());
}

How to delete history of last 10 commands in shell?

Maybe will be useful for someone.
When you login to any user of any console/terminal history of your current session exists only in some "buffer" which flushes to ~/.bash_history on your logout.
So, to keep things secret you can just:
history -r && exit
and you will be logged out with all your session's (and only) history cleared ;)

Deep-Learning Nan loss reasons

If you'd like to gather more information on the error and if the error occurs in the first few iterations, I suggest you run the experiment in CPU-only mode (no GPUs). The error message will be much more specific.

Difference between __getattr__ vs __getattribute__

  • getattribute: Is used to retrieve an attribute from an instance. It captures every attempt to access an instance attribute by using dot notation or getattr() built-in function.
  • getattr: Is executed as the last resource when attribute is not found in an object. You can choose to return a default value or to raise AttributeError.

Going back to the __getattribute__ function; if the default implementation was not overridden; the following checks are done when executing the method:

  • Check if there is a descriptor with the same name (attribute name) defined in any class in the MRO chain (method object resolution)
  • Then looks into the instance’s namespace
  • Then looks into the class namespace
  • Then into each base’s namespace and so on.
  • Finally, if not found, the default implementation calls the fallback getattr() method of the instance and it raises an AttributeError exception as default implementation.

This is the actual implementation of the object.__getattribute__ method:

.. c:function:: PyObject* PyObject_GenericGetAttr(PyObject *o, PyObject *name) Generic attribute getter function that is meant to be put into a type object's tp_getattro slot. It looks for a descriptor in the dictionary of classes in the object's MRO as well as an attribute in the object's :attr:~object.dict (if present). As outlined in :ref:descriptors, data descriptors take preference over instance attributes, while non-data descriptors don't. Otherwise, an :exc:AttributeError is raised.

Don't use absolute paths, make them relative to the 'resources' directory in your project. Quick and dirty code that displays the contents of MyTest.txt from the directory 'resources'.

@Test
public void testDefaultResource() {
    // can we see default resources
    BufferedInputStream result = (BufferedInputStream)
         Config.class.getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream("MyTest.txt");
    byte [] b = new byte[256];
    int val = 0;
    String txt = null;
    do {
        try {
            val = result.read(b);
            if (val > 0) {
                txt += new String(b, 0, val);
            }
        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    } while (val > -1);
    System.out.println(txt);
}

Loop through all nested dictionary values?

I find this approach a bit more flexible, here you just providing generator function that emits key, value pairs and can be easily extended to also iterate over lists.

def traverse(value, key=None):
    if isinstance(value, dict):
        for k, v in value.items():
            yield from traverse(v, k)
    else:
        yield key, value

Then you can write your own myprint function, then would print those key value pairs.

def myprint(d):
    for k, v in traverse(d):
        print(f"{k} : {v}")

A test:

myprint({
    'xml': {
        'config': {
            'portstatus': {
                'status': 'good',
            },
            'target': '1',
        },
        'port': '11',
    },
})

Output:

status : good
target : 1
port : 11

I tested this on Python 3.6.

RecyclerView vs. ListView

Following are few key points/differences between RecyclerView & ListView. Take your call wisely.

If ListView works for you, there is no reason to migrate. If you are writing a new UI, you might be better off with RecyclerView.

RecylerView has inbuilt ViewHolder, doesn't need to implement our own like in listView. It support notify at particular index as well

Things like animating the addition or removal of items are already implemented in the RecyclerView without you having to do anything

We can associate a layout manager with a RecyclerView, this can be used for getting random views in recycleview while this was limitation in ListView In a ListView, the only type of view available is the vertical ListView. There is no official way to even implement a horizontal ListView. Now using a RecyclerView, we can have a

i) LinearLayoutManager - which supports both vertical and horizontal lists, ii) StaggeredLayoutManager - which supports Pinterest like staggered lists, iii) GridLayoutManager - which supports displaying grids as seen in Gallery apps.

And the best thing is that we can do all these dynamically as we want.

        count += 1
     num += 1

I'll leave it up to you to implement isnumprime() ;) Hint: You only need to test division with all previously found prime numbers.

powershell "$s=(New-Object -COM WScript.Shell).CreateShortcut('%userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\CWarp_DoH.lnk');$s.TargetPath='E:\Program\CloudflareWARP\warp-cli.exe';$s.Arguments='connect';$s.IconLocation='E:\Program\CloudflareWARP\Cloudflare WARP.exe';$s.WorkingDirectory='E:\Program\CloudflareWARP';$s.WindowStyle=7;$s.Save()"

file_get_contents behind a proxy?

There's a similar post here: http://techpad.co.uk/content.php?sid=137 which explains how to do it.

function file_get_contents_proxy($url,$proxy){

    // Create context stream
    $context_array = array('http'=>array('proxy'=>$proxy,'request_fulluri'=>true));
    $context = stream_context_create($context_array);

    // Use context stream with file_get_contents
    $data = file_get_contents($url,false,$context);

    // Return data via proxy
    return $data;

}

Efficient evaluation of a function at every cell of a NumPy array

You could just vectorize the function and then apply it directly to a Numpy array each time you need it:

import numpy as np

def f(x):
    return x * x + 3 * x - 2 if x > 0 else x * 5 + 8

f = np.vectorize(f) # or use a different name if you want to keep the original f

result_array = f(A)  # if A is your Numpy array

It's probably better to specify an explicit output type directly when vectorizing:

f = np.vectorize(f, otypes=[np.float])

How do I solve the INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT error?

I was getting this issue when trying to install on 2.3 devices (fine on 4.0.3). It ended up being due to a lib project i was using had multiple jars which were for stuff already in android e.g. HttpClient and XML parsers etc. Looking at logcat led me to find this as it was telling me it was skipping classes due to them already being present. Nice unhelpful original error there!

SOLUTION :-

Guess, this error is most probably returned by Local Squid deployed in the server.

So, it worked fine and good after replacing localhost by the local_ip in which the ElasticSearch has been deployed.

PreparedStatement setNull(..)

You could also consider using preparedStatement.setObject(index,value,type);

How to get the current loop index when using Iterator?

You can use ListIterator to do the counting:

final List<String> list = Arrays.asList("zero", "one", "two", "three");

for (final ListIterator<String> it = list.listIterator(); it.hasNext();) {
    final String s = it.next();
    System.out.println(it.previousIndex() + ": " + s);
}

Seeing the underlying SQL in the Spring JdbcTemplate?

I use this line for Spring Boot applications:

logging.level.org.springframework.jdbc.core = TRACE

This approach pretty universal and I usually use it for any other classes inside my application.

Why does git revert complain about a missing -m option?

By default git revert refuses to revert a merge commit as what that actually means is ambiguous. I presume that your HEAD is in fact a merge commit.

If you want to revert the merge commit, you have to specify which parent of the merge you want to consider to be the main trunk, i.e. what you want to revert to.

Often this will be parent number one, for example if you were on master and did git merge unwanted and then decided to revert the merge of unwanted. The first parent would be your pre-merge master branch and the second parent would be the tip of unwanted.

In this case you could do:

git revert -m 1 HEAD

C# Lambda expressions: Why should I use them?

I found them useful in a situation when I wanted to declare a handler for some control's event, using another control. To do it normally you would have to store controls' references in fields of the class so that you could use them in a different method than they were created.

private ComboBox combo;
private Label label;

public CreateControls()
{
    combo = new ComboBox();
    label = new Label();
    //some initializing code
    combo.SelectedIndexChanged += new EventHandler(combo_SelectedIndexChanged);
}

void combo_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    label.Text = combo.SelectedValue;
}

thanks to lambda expressions you can use it like this:

public CreateControls()
{
    ComboBox combo = new ComboBox();
    Label label = new Label();
    //some initializing code
    combo.SelectedIndexChanged += (s, e) => {label.Text = combo.SelectedValue;};
}

Much easier.

How do I access named capturing groups in a .NET Regex?

The following code sample, will match the pattern even in case of space characters in between. i.e. :

<td><a href='/path/to/file'>Name of File</a></td>

as well as:

<td> <a      href='/path/to/file' >Name of File</a>  </td>

Method returns true or false, depending on whether the input htmlTd string matches the pattern or no. If it matches, the out params contain the link and name respectively.

/// <summary>
/// Assigns proper values to link and name, if the htmlId matches the pattern
/// </summary>
/// <returns>true if success, false otherwise</returns>
public static bool TryGetHrefDetails(string htmlTd, out string link, out string name)
{
    link = null;
    name = null;

    string pattern = "<td>\\s*<a\\s*href\\s*=\\s*(?:\"(?<link>[^\"]*)\"|(?<link>\\S+))\\s*>(?<name>.*)\\s*</a>\\s*</td>";

    if (Regex.IsMatch(htmlTd, pattern))
    {
        Regex r = new Regex(pattern,  RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.Compiled);
        link = r.Match(htmlTd).Result("${link}");
        name = r.Match(htmlTd).Result("${name}");
        return true;
    }
    else
        return false;
}

I have tested this and it works correctly.

Store an array in HashMap

HashMap<String, List<Integer>> map = new HashMap<String, List<Integer>>();
HashMap<String, int[]> map = new HashMap<String, int[]>();

pick one, for example

HashMap<String, List<Integer>> map = new HashMap<String, List<Integer>>();
map.put("Something", new ArrayList<Integer>());
for (int i=0;i<numarulDeCopii; i++) {
    map.get("Something").add(coeficientUzura[i]);
}

or just

HashMap<String, int[]> map = new HashMap<String, int[]>();
map.put("Something", coeficientUzura);

Delete column from pandas DataFrame

If your original dataframe df is not too big, you have no memory constraints, and you only need to keep a few columns, or, if you don't know beforehand the names of all the extra columns that you do not need, then you might as well create a new dataframe with only the columns you need:

new_df = df[['spam', 'sausage']]

Detect HTTP or HTTPS then force HTTPS in JavaScript

I have just had all the script variations tested by Pui Cdm, included answers above and many others using php, htaccess, server configuration, and Javascript, the results are that the script

<script type="text/javascript">
function showProtocall() {
        if (window.location.protocol != "https") {
            window.location = "https://" + window.location.href.substring(window.location.protocol.length, window.location.href.length);
            window.location.reload();
        }
    }
    showProtocall();
</script>

provided by vivek-srivastava works best and you can add further security in java script.

phpMyAdmin says no privilege to create database, despite logged in as root user

Login using the system maintenance user and password created when you installed phpMyAdmin.
It can be found in the debian.cnf file at /etc/mysql then you will have total access.

cd /etc/mysql
sudo nano debian.cnf

user     = debian-sys-maint       <----use this user
password = s0meRaND0mChar$s       <----use this password

Worked for me.

Laravel migration default value

In Laravel 6 you have to add 'change' to your migrations file as follows:

$table->enum('is_approved', array('0','1'))->default('0')->change();

How do I find which application is using up my port?

It may be possible that there is no other application running. It is possible that the socket wasn't cleanly shutdown from a previous session in which case you may have to wait for a while before the TIME_WAIT expires on that socket. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use the port till that socket expires. If you can start your server after waiting for a while (a few minutes) then the problem is not due to some other application running on port 8080.

Excel: replace part of cell's string value

You have a character = STQ8QGpaM4CU6149665!7084880820, and you have a another column = 7084880820.

If you want to get only this in excel using the formula: STQ8QGpaM4CU6149665!, use this:

=REPLACE(H11,SEARCH(J11,H11),LEN(J11),"")

H11 is an old character and for starting number use search option then for no of character needs to replace use len option then replace to new character. I am replacing this to blank.

how does int main() and void main() work

Neither main() or void main() are standard C. The former is allowed as it has an implicit int return value, making it the same as int main(). The purpose of main's return value is to return an exit status to the operating system.

In standard C, the only valid signatures for main are:

int main(void)

and

int main(int argc, char **argv)

The form you're using: int main() is an old style declaration that indicates main takes an unspecified number of arguments. Don't use it - choose one of those above.

Typescript empty object for a typed variable

you can do this as below in typescript

 const _params = {} as any;

 _params.name ='nazeh abel'

since typescript does not behave like javascript so we have to make the type as any otherwise it won't allow you to assign property dynamically to an object

How to change the button text for 'Yes' and 'No' buttons in the MessageBox.Show dialog?

Just add a new form and add buttons and a label. Give the value to be shown and the text of the button, etc. in its constructor, and call it from anywhere you want in the project.

In project -> Add Component -> Windows Form and select a form

Add some label and buttons.

Initialize the value in constructor and call it from anywhere.

{
    public form1()
    {
    }

    public form1(string message,string buttonText1,string buttonText2)
    {
       lblMessage.Text = message;
       button1.Text = buttonText1;
       button2.Text = buttonText2;
    }
}

// Write code for button1 and button2 's click event in order to call
// from any where in your current project.

// Calling

Form1 frm = new Form1("message to show", "buttontext1", "buttontext2");
frm.ShowDialog();

git - Server host key not cached

In Windows 7 or 10, the trick that worked for me is deleting the GIT_SSH system variable. It was set before to use Plink, and now was replaced by Putty. This was causing Plink.exe error

There was also an old installation of Git (32-bit version) and updating to Git(e.g. Git-2.20.1-64-bit.exe) since the PC was 64-bit OS.

Anyway the Putty/Plink was not even used by Git since in the Git installation it was default to use Open SSH.

Scroll to element on click in Angular 4

There is actually a pure javascript way to accomplish this without using setTimeout or requestAnimationFrame or jQuery.

In short, find the element in the scrollView that you want to scroll to, and use scrollIntoView.

el.scrollIntoView({behavior:"smooth"});

How to style dt and dd so they are on the same line?

Here's another option that works by displaying the dt and dd inline and then adding a line break after the dd.

dt, dd {
 display: inline;
}
dd:after {
 content:"\a";
 white-space: pre;
}

This is similar to Navaneeth's solution above, but using this approach, the content won't line up as in a table, but the dd will follow the dt immediately on every line regardless of length.

How to dynamically create generic C# object using reflection?

Check out this article and this simple example. Quick translation of same to your classes ...

var d1 = typeof(Task<>);
Type[] typeArgs = { typeof(Item) };
var makeme = d1.MakeGenericType(typeArgs);
object o = Activator.CreateInstance(makeme);

Per your edit: For that case, you can do this ...

var d1 = Type.GetType("GenericTest.TaskA`1"); // GenericTest was my namespace, add yours
Type[] typeArgs = { typeof(Item) };
var makeme = d1.MakeGenericType(typeArgs);
object o = Activator.CreateInstance(makeme);

To see where I came up with backtick1 for the name of the generic class, see this article.

Note: if your generic class accepts multiple types, you must include the commas when you omit the type names, for example:

Type type = typeof(IReadOnlyDictionary<,>);

SyntaxError: import declarations may only appear at top level of a module

I got this on Firefox (FF58). I fixed this with:

  1. It is still experimental on Firefox (from v54): You have to set to true the variable dom.moduleScripts.enabled in about:config

Source: Import page on mozilla (See Browser compatibility)

  1. Add type="module" to your script tag where you import the js file

<script type="module" src="appthatimports.js"></script>

  1. Import files have to be prefixed (./, /, ../ or http:// before)

import * from "./mylib.js"

no sqljdbc_auth in java.library.path

The error is clear, isn't it?

You've not added the path where sqljdbc_auth.dll is present. Find out in the system where the DLL is and add that to your classpath.

And if that also doesn't work, add the folder where the DLL is present (I'm assuming \Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0\sqljdbc_3.0\enu\auth\x86) to your PATH variable.

Again if you're going via ant or cmd you have to explicitly mention the path using -Djava.library.path=[path to MS_SQL_AUTH_DLL]

What is the significance of load factor in HashMap?

For HashMap DEFAULT_INITIAL_CAPACITY = 16 and DEFAULT_LOAD_FACTOR = 0.75f it means that MAX number of ALL Entries in the HashMap = 16 * 0.75 = 12. When the thirteenth element will be added capacity (array size) of HashMap will be doubled! Perfect illustration answered this question: enter image description here image is taken from here:

Calculate date/time difference in java

If you are able to use external libraries I would recommend you to use Joda-Time, noting that:

Joda-Time is the de facto standard date and time library for Java prior to Java SE 8. Users are now asked to migrate to java.time (JSR-310).

Example for between calculation:

Seconds.between(startDate, endDate);
Days.between(startDate, endDate);

Why do we have to override the equals() method in Java?

By default .equals() uses == identity function to compare which obviously doesn't work as the instances test1 and test2 are not the same. == only works with primitive data types like int or string. So you need to override it to make it work by comparing all the member variables of the Test class

How to add leading zeros for for-loop in shell?

throw checked Exceptions from mocks with Mockito

A workaround is to use a willAnswer() method.

For example the following works (and doesn't throw a MockitoException but actually throws a checked Exception as required here) using BDDMockito:

given(someObj.someMethod(stringArg1)).willAnswer( invocation -> { throw new Exception("abc msg"); });

The equivalent for plain Mockito would to use the doAnswer method

Share cookie between subdomain and domain

Be careful if you are working on localhost ! If you store your cookie in js like this:

document.cookie = "key=value;domain=localhost"

It might not be accessible to your subdomain, like sub.localhost. In order to solve this issue you need to use Virtual Host. For exemple you can configure your virtual host with ServerName localhost.com then you will be able to store your cookie on your domain and subdomain like this:

document.cookie = "key=value;domain=localhost.com"

is there a require for json in node.js

Programmatically navigate using React router

React-Router 4.x Answer :

On my end, I like to have a single history object that I can carry even outside components. What I like to do is to have a single history.js file that I import on demand, and just manipulate it.

You just have to change BrowserRouter to Router, and specify the history prop. This doesn't change anything for you except that you have your own history object that you can manipulate as you want.

You need to install history, the library used by react-router.

Example usage, ES6 notation :

history.js

import createBrowserHistory from 'history/createBrowserHistory'
export default createBrowserHistory()

BasicComponent.js

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import history from './history';

class BasicComponent extends Component {

    goToIndex(e){
        e.preventDefault();
        history.push('/');
    }

    render(){
        return <a href="#" onClick={this.goToIndex}>Previous</a>;
    }
}

EDIT April 16th, 2018 :

If you have to navigate from a component that is actually rendered from a Route component, you can also access history from props, like that :

BasicComponent.js

import React, { Component } from 'react';

class BasicComponent extends Component {

    navigate(e){
        e.preventDefault();
        this.props.history.push('/url');
    }

    render(){
        return <a href="#" onClick={this.navigate}>Previous</a>;
    }
}

Counter in foreach loop in C#

Not all collections have indexes. For instance, I can use a Dictionary with foreach (and iterate through all the keys and values), but I can't write get at individual elements using dictionary[0], dictionary[1] etc.

If I did want to iterate through a dictionary and keep track of an index, I'd have to use a separate variable that I incremented myself.

AngularJS - Value attribute on an input text box is ignored when there is a ng-model used?

I had similar issue. I was not able to use value="something" to display and edit. I had to use the below command inside my <input>along withe ng model being declared.

[(ngModel)]=userDataToPass.pinCode

Where I have the list of data in the object userDataToPass and the item that I need to display and edit is pinCode.

SOAP or REST for Web Services?

REST is a fundamentally different paradigm from SOAP. A good read on REST can be found here: How I explained REST to my wife.

If you don't have time to read it, here's the short version: REST is a bit of a paradigm shift by focusing on "nouns", and restraining the number of "verbs" you can apply to those nouns. The only allowed verbs are "get", "put", "post" and "delete". This differs from SOAP where many different verbs can be applied to many different nouns (i.e. many different functions).

For REST, the four verbs map to the corresponding HTTP requests, while the nouns are identified by URLs. This makes state management much more transparent than in SOAP, where its often unclear what state is on the server and what is on the client.

In practice though most of this falls away, and REST usually just refers to simple HTTP requests that return results in JSON, while SOAP is a more complex API that communicates by passing XML around. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I've found that in my experience REST is usually the better choice because you rarely if ever need the full functionality you get from SOAP.

Increase max_execution_time in PHP?

Is very easy, this work for me:

PHP:

set_time_limit(300); // Time in seconds, max_execution_time

Here is the PHP documentation

bodyParser is deprecated express 4

It means that using the bodyParser() constructor has been deprecated, as of 2014-06-19.

app.use(bodyParser()); //Now deprecated

You now need to call the methods separately

app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded());

app.use(bodyParser.json());

And so on.

If you're still getting a warning with urlencoded you need to use

app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded({
  extended: true
}));

The extended config object key now needs to be explicitly passed, since it now has no default value.

If you are using Express >= 4.16.0, body parser has been re-added under the methods express.json() and express.urlencoded().

Read specific columns from a csv file with csv module?

The only way you would be getting the last column from this code is if you don't include your print statement in your for loop.

This is most likely the end of your code:

for row in reader:
    content = list(row[i] for i in included_cols)
print content

You want it to be this:

for row in reader:
        content = list(row[i] for i in included_cols)
        print content

Now that we have covered your mistake, I would like to take this time to introduce you to the pandas module.

Pandas is spectacular for dealing with csv files, and the following code would be all you need to read a csv and save an entire column into a variable:

import pandas as pd
df = pd.read_csv(csv_file)
saved_column = df.column_name #you can also use df['column_name']

so if you wanted to save all of the info in your column Names into a variable, this is all you need to do:

names = df.Names

It's a great module and I suggest you look into it. If for some reason your print statement was in for loop and it was still only printing out the last column, which shouldn't happen, but let me know if my assumption was wrong. Your posted code has a lot of indentation errors so it was hard to know what was supposed to be where. Hope this was helpful!

TypeError: only length-1 arrays can be converted to Python scalars while trying to exponentially fit data

Here is another way to reproduce this error in Python2.7 with numpy:

import numpy as np
a = np.array([1,2,3])
b = np.array([4,5,6])
c = np.concatenate(a,b)   #note the lack of tuple format for a and b
print(c)

The np.concatenate method produces an error:

TypeError: only length-1 arrays can be converted to Python scalars

If you read the documentation around numpy.concatenate, then you see it expects a tuple of numpy array objects. So surrounding the variables with parens fixed it:

import numpy as np
a = np.array([1,2,3])
b = np.array([4,5,6])
c = np.concatenate((a,b))  #surround a and b with parens, packaging them as a tuple
print(c)

Then it prints:

[1 2 3 4 5 6]

What's going on here?

That error is a case of bubble-up implementation - it is caused by duck-typing philosophy of python. This is a cryptic low-level error python guts puke up when it receives some unexpected variable types, tries to run off and do something, gets part way through, the pukes, attempts remedial action, fails, then tells you that "you can't reformulate the subspace responders when the wind blows from the east on Tuesday".

In more sensible languages like C++ or Java, it would have told you: "you can't use a TypeA where TypeB was expected". But Python does it's best to soldier on, does something undefined, fails, and then hands you back an unhelpful error. The fact we have to be discussing this is one of the reasons I don't like Python, or its duck-typing philosophy.

Elegant way to check for missing packages and install them?

I have implemented the function to install and load required R packages silently. Hope might help. Here is the code:

# Function to Install and Load R Packages
Install_And_Load <- function(Required_Packages)
{
    Remaining_Packages <- Required_Packages[!(Required_Packages %in% installed.packages()[,"Package"])];

    if(length(Remaining_Packages))
    {
        install.packages(Remaining_Packages);
    }
    for(package_name in Required_Packages)
    {
        library(package_name,character.only=TRUE,quietly=TRUE);
    }
}

# Specify the list of required packages to be installed and load
Required_Packages=c("ggplot2", "Rcpp");

# Call the Function
Install_And_Load(Required_Packages);

Reset push notification settings for app

I recently ran into the similar issue with react-native application. iPhone OS version was 13.1 I uninstalled the application and tried to install the app and noticed both location and notification permissions were not prompted.

On checking the settings, I could see my application was enabled for location(from previous installation) however there was no corresponding entry against the notification Tried uninstalling and rebooting without setting the time, it didn't work. Btw, I also tried to download the Appstore app, still same behavior.

The issue was resolved only after setting the device time.

Check if TextBox is empty and return MessageBox?

For multiple text boxes - add them into a list and show all errors into 1 messagebox.

// Append errors into 1 Message Box

 List<string> errors = new List<string>();

 if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox1.Text))
    {
        errors.Add("User");
    }

    if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(textBox2.Text))
    {
        errors.Add("Document Ref Code");
    }

    if (errors.Count > 0)
    {
        errors.Insert(0, "The following fields are empty:");
        string message = string.Join(Environment.NewLine, errors);
        MessageBox.Show(message, "errors", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning);
        return;
    }

Merging multiple PDFs using iTextSharp in c#.net

I found the answer:

Instead of the 2nd Method, add more files to the first array of input files.

public static void CombineMultiplePDFs(string[] fileNames, string outFile)
{
    // step 1: creation of a document-object
    Document document = new Document();
    //create newFileStream object which will be disposed at the end
    using (FileStream newFileStream = new FileStream(outFile, FileMode.Create))
    {
       // step 2: we create a writer that listens to the document
       PdfCopy writer = new PdfCopy(document, newFileStream );
       if (writer == null)
       {
           return;
       }

       // step 3: we open the document
       document.Open();

       foreach (string fileName in fileNames)
       {
           // we create a reader for a certain document
           PdfReader reader = new PdfReader(fileName);
           reader.ConsolidateNamedDestinations();

           // step 4: we add content
           for (int i = 1; i <= reader.NumberOfPages; i++)
           {
               PdfImportedPage page = writer.GetImportedPage(reader, i);
               writer.AddPage(page);
           }

           PRAcroForm form = reader.AcroForm;
           if (form != null)
           {
               writer.CopyAcroForm(reader);
           }

           reader.Close();
       }

       // step 5: we close the document and writer
       writer.Close();
       document.Close();
   }//disposes the newFileStream object
}

Top 1 with a left join

Damir is correct,

Your subquery needs to ensure that dps_user.id equals um.profile_id, otherwise it will grab the top row which might, but probably not equal your id of 'u162231993'

Your query should look like this:

SELECT u.id, mbg.marker_value
FROM dps_user u
LEFT JOIN
    (SELECT TOP 1 m.marker_value, um.profile_id
     FROM dps_usr_markers um (NOLOCK)
         INNER JOIN dps_markers m (NOLOCK)
             ON m.marker_id= um.marker_id AND
                m.marker_key = 'moneyBackGuaranteeLength'
     WHERE u.id = um.profile_id
     ORDER BY m.creation_date
    ) MBG ON MBG.profile_id=u.id
WHERE u.id = 'u162231993'

Efficient way to do batch INSERTS with JDBC

In my code I have no direct access to the 'preparedStatement' so I cannot use batch, I just pass it the query and a list of parameters. The trick however is to create a variable length insert statement, and a LinkedList of parameters. The effect is the same as the top example, with variable parameter input length.See below (error checking omitted). Assuming 'myTable' has 3 updatable fields: f1, f2 and f3

String []args={"A","B","C", "X","Y","Z" }; // etc, input list of triplets
final String QUERY="INSERT INTO [myTable] (f1,f2,f3) values ";
LinkedList params=new LinkedList();
String comma="";
StringBuilder q=QUERY;
for(int nl=0; nl< args.length; nl+=3 ) { // args is a list of triplets values
    params.add(args[nl]);
    params.add(args[nl+1]);
    params.add(args[nl+2]);
    q.append(comma+"(?,?,?)");
    comma=",";
}
int nr=insertIntoDB(q, params);

in my DBInterface class I have:

int insertIntoDB(String query, LinkedList <String>params) {
    preparedUPDStmt = connectionSQL.prepareStatement(query);
    int n=1;
    for(String x:params) {
        preparedUPDStmt.setString(n++, x);
    }
    int updates=preparedUPDStmt.executeUpdate();
    return updates;
}

Enable & Disable a Div and its elements in Javascript

You should be able to set these via the attr() or prop() functions in jQuery as shown below:

jQuery (< 1.7):

// This will disable just the div
$("#dcacl").attr('disabled','disabled');

or

// This will disable everything contained in the div
$("#dcacl").children().attr("disabled","disabled");

jQuery (>= 1.7):

// This will disable just the div
$("#dcacl").prop('disabled',true);

or

// This will disable everything contained in the div
$("#dcacl").children().prop('disabled',true);

or

// disable ALL descendants of the DIV
$("#dcacl *").prop('disabled',true);

Javascript:

// This will disable just the div
document.getElementById("dcalc").disabled = true;

or

// This will disable all the children of the div
var nodes = document.getElementById("dcalc").getElementsByTagName('*');
for(var i = 0; i < nodes.length; i++){
     nodes[i].disabled = true;
}

What is the difference between signed and unsigned variables?

Unsigned variables are variables which are internally represented without a mathematical sign (plus or minus) can store 'zero' or positive values only. Let us say the unsigned variable is n bits in size, then it can represent 2^n (2 power n) values - 0 through (2^n -1). A signed variable on the other hand, 'loses' one bit for representing the sign, so it can store values from -(2^(n-1) -1) through (2^(n-1)) including zero. Thus, a signed variable can store positive values, negative values and zero.

P.S.:
Internally, the mathematical sign may be represented in one's complement form, two's complement form or with a sign bit (eg: 0 -> +, 1-> -)
All these methods effectively divide the range of representable values in n bits (2^n) into three parts, positive, negative and zero.

This is just my two cents worth.

I hope this helps.

get the margin size of an element with jquery

Exemple, for :

<div id="myBlock" style="margin: 10px 0px 15px 5px:"></div>

In this js code :

var myMarginTop = $("#myBlock").css("marginBottom");

The var becomes "15px", a string.

If you want an Integer, to avoid NaN (Not a Number), there is multiple ways.

The fastest is to use native js method :

var myMarginTop = parseInt( $("#myBlock").css("marginBottom") );

Remote origin already exists on 'git push' to a new repository

I had the same problem when I first set up using Bitbucket.

My problem was that I needed to change the word origin for something self-defined. I used the name of the application. So:

git remote add AppName https://[email protected]/somewhere/something.git

TypeError: 'float' object is not callable

The problem is with -3.7(prof[x]), which looks like a function call (note the parens). Just use a * like this -3.7*prof[x].

libstdc++-6.dll not found

If you are using MingW to compile C++ code on Windows, you may like to add the options -static-libgcc and -static-libstdc++ to link the C and C++ standard libraries statically and thus remove the need to carry around any separate copies of those. Version management of libraries is a pain in Windows, so I've found this approach the quickest and cleanest solution to creating Windows binaries.

How to concatenate two strings in SQL Server 2005

DECLARE @COMBINED_STRINGS AS VARCHAR(50),
        @STRING1 AS VARCHAR(20),
        @STRING2 AS VARCHAR(20);

SET @STRING1 = 'rupesh''s';
SET @STRING2 = 'malviya';
SET @COMBINED_STRINGS = @STRING1 + @STRING2;

SELECT @COMBINED_STRINGS;

SELECT '2' + '3';

I typed this in a sql file named TEST.sql and I run it. I got the following out put.

+-------------------+
| @COMBINED_STRINGS |
+-------------------+
|                 0 |
+-------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

+-----------+
| '2' + '3' |
+-----------+
|         5 |
+-----------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

After looking into this issue a bit more I found the best and sure sort way for string concatenation in SQL is by using CONCAT method. So I made the following changes in the same file.

#DECLARE @COMBINED_STRINGS AS VARCHAR(50),
 #       @STRING1 AS VARCHAR(20),
 #       @STRING2 AS VARCHAR(20);

SET @STRING1 = 'rupesh''s';
SET @STRING2 = 'malviya';
#SET @COMBINED_STRINGS = @STRING1 + @STRING2;
SET @COMBINED_STRINGS = (SELECT CONCAT(@STRING1, @STRING2));

SELECT @COMBINED_STRINGS;

#SELECT '2' + '3';
SELECT CONCAT('2','3');

and after executing the file this was the output.

+-------------------+
| @COMBINED_STRINGS |
+-------------------+
| rupesh'smalviya   |
+-------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

+-----------------+
| CONCAT('2','3') |
+-----------------+
| 23              |
+-----------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Your application is not able to connect to activemq. Check that your activemq is running and listening on localhost 61616.

You can try using: netstat -a to check if the activemq process has started. Or try check if you can access your actvemq using admin page: localhost:8161/admin/queues.jsp

On mac you will start your activemq using:

$ACTMQ_HOME/bin/activemq start

Or if your config file (activemq.xml ) if located in another location you can use:

$ACTMQ_HOME/bin/activemq start xbean:file:${location_of_your_config_file}

In your case the executable is under: bin/macosx/activemq so you need to use: $ACTMQ_HOME/bin/macosx/activemq start
