Reporting Services export to Excel with Multiple Worksheets

To late for the original asker of the question, but with SQL Server 2008 R2 this is now possible:

Set the property "Pagebreak" on the tablix or table or other element to force a new tab, and then set the property "Pagename" on both the element before the pagebreak and the element after the pagebreak. These names will appear on the tabs when the report is exported to Excel.

How to Calculate Execution Time of a Code Snippet in C++

You can use this function I wrote. You call GetTimeMs64(), and it returns the number of milliseconds elapsed since the unix epoch using the system clock - the just like time(NULL), except in milliseconds.

It works on both windows and linux; it is thread safe.

Note that the granularity is 15 ms on windows; on linux it is implementation dependent, but it usually 15 ms as well.

#ifdef _WIN32
#include <Windows.h>
#else
#include <sys/time.h>
#include <ctime>
#endif

/* Remove if already defined */
typedef long long int64; typedef unsigned long long uint64;

/* Returns the amount of milliseconds elapsed since the UNIX epoch. Works on both
 * windows and linux. */

uint64 GetTimeMs64()
{
#ifdef _WIN32
 /* Windows */
 FILETIME ft;
 LARGE_INTEGER li;

 /* Get the amount of 100 nano seconds intervals elapsed since January 1, 1601 (UTC) and copy it
  * to a LARGE_INTEGER structure. */
 GetSystemTimeAsFileTime(&ft);
 li.LowPart = ft.dwLowDateTime;
 li.HighPart = ft.dwHighDateTime;

 uint64 ret = li.QuadPart;
 ret -= 116444736000000000LL; /* Convert from file time to UNIX epoch time. */
 ret /= 10000; /* From 100 nano seconds (10^-7) to 1 millisecond (10^-3) intervals */

 return ret;
#else
 /* Linux */
 struct timeval tv;

 gettimeofday(&tv, NULL);

 uint64 ret = tv.tv_usec;
 /* Convert from micro seconds (10^-6) to milliseconds (10^-3) */
 ret /= 1000;

 /* Adds the seconds (10^0) after converting them to milliseconds (10^-3) */
 ret += (tv.tv_sec * 1000);

 return ret;
#endif
}

how to refresh Select2 dropdown menu after ajax loading different content?

It's common for other components to be listening to the change event, or for custom event handlers to be attached that may have side effects. Select2 does not have a custom event (like select2:update) that can be triggered other than change. You can rely on jQuery's event namespacing to limit the scope to Select2 though by triggering the *change.select2 event.

$('#state').trigger('change.select2'); // Notify only Select2 of changes

Angular: Cannot find a differ supporting object '[object Object]'

Missing square brackets around input property may cause this error. For example:

Correct:

Incorrect (triggering error):

<app-foo bars="smth"></app-foo>

How to overwrite the previous print to stdout in python?

Here's my solution! Windows 10, Python 3.7.1

I'm not sure why this code works, but it completely erases the original line. I compiled it from the previous answers. The other answers would just return the line to the beginning, but if you had a shorter line afterwards, it would look messed up like hello turns into byelo.

#include ctypes if you're on Windows
import ctypes
kernel32 = ctypes.windll.kernel32
kernel32.SetConsoleMode(kernel32.GetStdHandle(-11), 7)
#end ctypes

    sys.stdout.write(CURSOR_UP_ONE)
    sys.stdout.write(ERASE_LINE+'\r')
    print(msg, end='\r')

#example
ig_usernames = ['beyonce','selenagomez']
for name in ig_usernames:
    clearline("SCRAPING COMPLETE: "+ name)

Output - Each line will be rewritten without any old text showing:

SCRAPING COMPLETE: selenagomez

Next line (rewritten completely on same line):

SCRAPING COMPLETE: beyonce

SQL Server: Is it possible to insert into two tables at the same time?

In one statement: No.

In one transaction: Yes

BEGIN TRANSACTION
   DECLARE @DataID int;
   INSERT INTO DataTable (Column1 ...) VALUES (....);
   SELECT @DataID = scope_identity();
   INSERT INTO LinkTable VALUES (@ObjectID, @DataID);
COMMIT

The good news is that the above code is also guaranteed to be atomic, and can be sent to the server from a client application with one sql string in a single function call as if it were one statement. You could also apply a trigger to one table to get the effect of a single insert. However, it's ultimately still two statements and you probably don't want to run the trigger for every insert.

What __init__ and self do in Python?

Yep, you are right, these are oop constructs.

__init__ is the constructor for a class. The self parameter refers to the instance of the object (like this in C++).

class Point:
    def __init__(self, x, y):
        self._x = x
        self._y = y

The __init__ method gets called when memory for the object is allocated:

x = Point(1,2)

It is important to use the self parameter inside an object's method if you want to persist the value with the object. If, for instance, you implement the __init__ method like this:

class Point:
    def __init__(self, x, y):
        _x = x
        _y = y

Your x and y parameters would be stored in variables on the stack and would be discarded when the init method goes out of scope. Setting those variables as self._x and self._y sets those variables as members of the Point object (accessible for the lifetime of the object).

Why does the order in which libraries are linked sometimes cause errors in GCC?

You may can use -Xlinker option.

g++ -o foobar  -Xlinker -start-group  -Xlinker libA.a -Xlinker libB.a -Xlinker libC.a  -Xlinker -end-group

is ALMOST equal to

g++ -o foobar  -Xlinker -start-group  -Xlinker libC.a -Xlinker libB.a -Xlinker libA.a  -Xlinker -end-group

Careful !

  1. The order within a group is important ! Here's an example: a debug library has a debug routine, but the non-debug library has a weak version of the same. You must put the debug library FIRST in the group or you will resolve to the non-debug version.
  2. You need to precede each library in the group list with -Xlinker

How do I generate a random integer between min and max in Java?

Using the Random class is the way to go as suggested in the accepted answer, but here is a less straight-forward correct way of doing it if you didn't want to create a new Random object :

min + (int) (Math.random() * (max - min + 1));

Serving favicon.ico in ASP.NET MVC

All you need to do is to add app.UseStaticFiles(); in your startup.cs -> public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app, IHostingEnvironment env).

ASP.net core provides an excellent way to get static files. That is using the wwwroot folder. Please read Static files in ASP.NET Core.

Using the <Link /> is not a very good idea. Why would someone add the link tag on each HTML or cshtml for the favicon.ico?

How to allow download of .json file with ASP.NET

Solution is you need to add json file extension type in MIME Types

Method 1

Go to IIS, Select your application and Find MIME Types

enter image description here

Click on Add from Right panel

File Name Extension = .json

MIME Type = application/json

enter image description here

Difference between char* and const char*?

char* is a mutable pointer to a mutable character/string.

const char* is a mutable pointer to an immutable character/string. You cannot change the contents of the location(s) this pointer points to. Also, compilers are required to give error messages when you try to do so. For the same reason, conversion from const char * to char* is deprecated.

char* const is an immutable pointer (it cannot point to any other location) but the contents of location at which it points are mutable.

const char* const is an immutable pointer to an immutable character/string.

Vertically align text within input field of fixed-height without display: table or padding?

The inner vertical alignment will depend on font height and input height, so, it can be adjusted using padding !!!

Try some like :

.InVertAlign {
   height: 40px;
   line-height: 40px;
   font-size: 2em;
   padding: 0px 14px 3px 5px;
}

...

<input type="text" class="InVertAlign" />

Remember to adjust the values on css class according to your needs !

How to Display blob (.pdf) in an AngularJS app

First of all you need to set the responseType to arraybuffer. This is required if you want to create a blob of your data. See Sending_and_Receiving_Binary_Data. So your code will look like this:

$http.post('/postUrlHere',{myParams}, {responseType:'arraybuffer'})
  .success(function (response) {
       var file = new Blob([response], {type: 'application/pdf'});
       var fileURL = URL.createObjectURL(file);
});

The next part is, you need to use the $sce service to make angular trust your url. This can be done in this way:

$scope.content = $sce.trustAsResourceUrl(fileURL);

Do not forget to inject the $sce service.

If this is all done you can now embed your pdf:

<embed ng-src="{{content}}" style="width:200px;height:200px;"></embed>

A 'for' loop to iterate over an enum in Java

.values()

You can call the values() method on your enum.

for (Direction dir : Direction.values()) {
  // do what you want
}

This values() method is implicitly declared by the compiler. So it is not listed on Enum doc.

What's "this" in JavaScript onclick?

The value of event handler attributes such as onclick should just be JavaScript, without any "javascript:" prefix. The javascript: pseudo-protocol is used in a URL, for example:

<a href="javascript:func(this)">here</a>

You should use the onclick="func(this)" form in preference to this though. Also note that in my example above using the javascript: pseudo-protocol "this" will refer to the window object rather than the <a> element.

nano error: Error opening terminal: xterm-256color

Mine was quite a unique case but this could help someone. On Android I tried to copy nano from my termux binary folder to /system/xbin. Placed all the library dependencies in /system/lib and got this error. The libncurses.so.6 file I copied from termux had it's TERMINFO file still pointed to /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/share/terminfo

View pointed path with command

strings path-to-libncurses.so | grep /terminfo

To fix either make the termux terminfo dir and subdirs readable and executable by the nano user or copy the terminfo folder somewhere else and use a hexeditor to modify the plain text path in the shared library file.

Using File.listFiles with FileNameExtensionFilter

Duh.... listFiles requires java.io.FileFilter. FileNameExtensionFilter extends javax.swing.filechooser.FileFilter. I solved my problem by implementing an instance of java.io.FileFilter

Edit: I did use something similar to @cFreiner's answer. I was trying to use a Java API method instead of writing my own implementation which is why I was trying to use FileNameExtensionFilter. I have many FileChoosers in my application and have used FileNameExtensionFilters for that and I mistakenly assumed that it was also extending java.io.FileFilter.

How to concat a string to xsl:value-of select="...?

The easiest way to concat a static text string to a selected value is to use element.

<a>
  <xsl:attribute name="href">

    <xsl:text>staticIconExample.png</xsl:text>
  </xsl:attribute>

add string to String array

As many of the answer suggesting better solution is to use ArrayList. ArrayList size is not fixed and it is easily manageable.

It is resizable-array implementation of the List interface. Implements all optional list operations, and permits all elements, including null. In addition to implementing the List interface, this class provides methods to manipulate the size of the array that is used internally to store the list.

Each ArrayList instance has a capacity. The capacity is the size of the array used to store the elements in the list. It is always at least as large as the list size. As elements are added to an ArrayList, its capacity grows automatically.

Note that this implementation is not synchronized.

ArrayList<String> scripts = new ArrayList<String>();
scripts.add("test1");
scripts.add("test2");
scripts.add("test3");

In your css add folllowing

[ng\:cloak], [ng-cloak], [data-ng-cloak], [x-ng-cloak], .ng-cloak, .x-ng-cloak {
    display: none !important;
 }

And then in you code you can add ng-cloak directive. For example,

<div ng-cloak>
   Welcome {{data.name}}
</div>

Thats it!

Differences between cookies and sessions?

Cookies and session both store information about the user (to make the HTTP request stateful) but the difference is that cookies store information on the client-side (browser) and sessions store information on the server-side. A cookie is limited in the sense that it stores information about limited users and only stores limited content for each user. A session is not limit in such a way.

How to trigger a phone call when clicking a link in a web page on mobile phone

Want to add an answer here for the sake of completeness.

<a href="tel:1234567">Call 123-4567</a>

Works just fine on most devices. However, on desktops this will appear as a link which does nothing when you click on it so you should consider using CSS to make it conditionally visible only on mobile devices.

Also, you should know that Skype (which is fairly popular) uses a different syntax by default (but can be parametered to use tel:).

<a href="callto:1234567">Call 123-4567</a>

However, I think in latest mobile browsers (I know for sure on Android) now the tel syntax should offer a popup of available applications that can be used to complete the calling action.

How to compile a c++ program in Linux?

  1. To Compile your C++ code use:-

Is there a way to take a screenshot using Java and save it to some sort of image?

If you'd like to capture all monitors, you can use the following code:

GraphicsDevice[] screens = ge.getScreenDevices();

Rectangle allScreenBounds = new Rectangle();
for (GraphicsDevice screen : screens) {
    Rectangle screenBounds = screen.getDefaultConfiguration().getBounds();

    allScreenBounds.width += screenBounds.width;
    allScreenBounds.height = Math.max(allScreenBounds.height, screenBounds.height);
}

BufferedImage screenShot = robot.createScreenCapture(allScreenBounds);

How to Serialize a list in java?

All standard implementations of java.util.List already implement java.io.Serializable.

So even though java.util.List itself is not a subtype of java.io.Serializable, it should be safe to cast the list to Serializable, as long as you know it's one of the standard implementations like ArrayList or LinkedList.

If you're not sure, then copy the list first (using something like new ArrayList(myList)), then you know it's serializable.

FFMPEG mp4 from http live streaming m3u8 file?

Your command is completely incorrect. The output format is not rawvideo and you don't need the bitstream filter h264_mp4toannexb which is used when you want to convert the h264 contained in an mp4 to the Annex B format used by MPEG-TS for example. What you want to use instead is the aac_adtstoasc for the AAC streams.

ffmpeg -i http://.../playlist.m3u8 -c copy -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc output.mp4

Printing out a linked list using toString

When the JVM tries to run your application, it calls your main method statically; something like this:

LinkedList.main();

That means there is no instance of your LinkedList class. In order to call your toString() method, you can create a new instance of your LinkedList class.

So the body of your main method should be like this:

public static void main(String[] args){
    // creating an instance of LinkedList class
    LinkedList ll = new LinkedList();

    // adding some data to the list
    ll.insertFront(1);
    ll.insertFront(2);
    ll.insertFront(3);
    ll.insertBack(4);

    System.out.println(ll.toString());
}

    print($array[$key]);
    print("-");

If you want to trim but do not want to print one dimensional Array or the deepest dimension of multi-dimensional Array you should use:

$array = array_map('trim', $array);

Python wildcard search in string

Do you mean any specific syntax for wildcards? Usually * stands for "one or many" characters and ? stands for one.

The simplest way probably is to translate a wildcard expression into a regular expression, then use that for filtering the results.

iOS how to set app icon and launch images

I found App called Iconizer. You can find repository on github. Iconizer can generate app icons for OS X, iPad, iPhone, CarPlay and Apple Watch with just one image.

Simply Drag and Drop your icon onto Iconizer, select the platforms you need and whether or not you want all platforms generated into one asset catalog, then hit export.

After that just replace (delete and import) your AppIcon in the Assets.xcassets

Debugging with command-line parameters in Visual Studio

The Mozilla.org FAQ on debugging Mozilla on Windows is of interest here.

In short, the Visual Studio debugger can be invoked on a program from the command line, allowing one to specify the command line arguments when invoking a command line program, directly on the command line.

This looks like the following for Visual Studio 8 or 9 (Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2008, respectively)

  devenv /debugexe 'program name' 'program arguments'

It is also possible to have an explorer action to start a program in the Visual Studio debugger.

How do you reverse a string in place in C or C++?

It's been a while and I don't remember which book taught me this algorithm, but I thought it was quite ingenious and simple to understand:

char input[] = "moc.wolfrevokcats";

int length = strlen(input);
int last_pos = length-1;
for(int i = 0; i < length/2; i++)
{
    char tmp = input[i];
    input[i] = input[last_pos - i];
    input[last_pos - i] = tmp;
}

printf("%s\n", input);

A visualization of this algorithm, courtesy of slashdottir:

When to use extern in C++

It's all about the linkage.

The previous answers provided good explainations about extern.

But I want to add an important point.

You ask about extern in C++ not in C and I don't know why there is no answer mentioning about the case when extern comes with const in C++.

In C++, a const variable has internal linkage by default (not like C).

So this scenario will lead to linking error:

Source 1 :

const int global = 255; //wrong way to make a definition of global const variable in C++

Source 2 :

extern const int global; //declaration

It need to be like this:

Source 1 :

extern const int global = 255; //a definition of global const variable in C++

Source 2 :

extern const int global; //declaration

C# Iterating through an enum? (Indexing a System.Array)

Then values[0] etc

How to get time (hour, minute, second) in Swift 3 using NSDate?

Swift 5+

extension Date {

        let t = calendar.component(type, from: self)
        return (t < 10 ? "0\(t)" : t.description)

print(Date().get(.month)) // => 08
print(Date().get(.day)) // => 18

How to wait until WebBrowser is completely loaded in VB.NET?

Sometimes if you use JavaScript the DocumentComplete event don't return the right answer; I use the event ProgressChanged instead:

Private Sub WebBrowser1_ProgressChanged(sender As Object, e As WebBrowserProgressChangedEventArgs) Handles WebBrowser1.ProgressChanged

        Console.WriteLine("Current Progress: " + e.CurrentProgress.ToString)

        If e.CurrentProgress = e.MaximumProgress Then

            ' The maximum progress is reached
            load_started = True

        End If

        ' The page is confirmed downloaded after the progress returns to 0
        If e.CurrentProgress = 0 Then

            If load_started Then

                ' The page is ready to print or download...
                WebBrowser1.Print()
                load_started = False

HTML5 Email input pattern attribute

In HTML5 you can use the new 'email' type: http://www.w3.org/TR/html-markup/input.email.html

For example:

<input type="email" id="email" />

If the browser implements HTML5 it will make sure that the user has entered a valid email address in the field. Note that if the browser doesn't implement HTML5, it will be treated like a 'text' type, ie:

<input type="text" id="email" />

android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: String resource ID Fatal Exception in Main

Move

Random pp = new Random();
int a1 = pp.nextInt(10);
TextView tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.tv);
tv.setText(a1);

To inside onCreate(), and change tv.setText(a1); to tv.setText(String.valueOf(a1)); :

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
  super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
  setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

  Random pp = new Random();
  int a1 = pp.nextInt(10);

  TextView tv = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.tv);
  tv.setText(String.valueOf(a1));

}

First issue: findViewById() was called before onCreate(), which would throw an NPE.

Second issue: Passing an int directly to a TextView calls the overloaded method that looks for a String resource (from R.string). Therefore, we want to use String.valueOf() to force the String overloaded method.

C# error: "An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property"

The Main method is static inside the Program class. You can't call an instance method from inside a static method, which is why you're getting the error.

To fix it you just need to make your GetRandomBits() method static as well.

path.join vs path.resolve with __dirname

From the doc for path.resolve:

The resulting path is normalized and trailing slashes are removed unless the path is resolved to the root directory.

But path.join keeps trailing slashes

So

__dirname = '/';
path.resolve(__dirname, 'foo/'); // '/foo'
path.join(__dirname, 'foo/'); // '/foo/'

How would I stop a while loop after n amount of time?

You do not need to use the while True: loop in this case. There is a much simpler way to use the time condition directly:

import time

# timeout variable can be omitted, if you use specific value in the while condition
timeout = 300   # [seconds]

timeout_start = time.time()

while time.time() < timeout_start + timeout:
    test = 0
    if test == 5:
        break
    test -= 1

handling dbnull data in vb.net

For the rows containing strings, I can convert them to strings as in changing

tmpStr = nameItem("lastname") + " " + nameItem("initials")

to

tmpStr = myItem("lastname").toString + " " + myItem("intials").toString

For the comparison in the if statement myItem("sID")=sID, it needs to be change to

myItem("sID").Equals(sID)

Then the code will run without any runtime errors due to vbNull data.

How do I create ColorStateList programmatically?

Unfortunately none of the solutions works for me.

  1. If you don't set pressed state at first it won't detect it.
  2. If you set it, then you need to define empty state to add default color
ColorStateList themeColorStateList = new ColorStateList(
        new int[][]{
                new int[]{android.R.attr.state_pressed},
                new int[]{android.R.attr.state_enabled},
                new int[]{android.R.attr.state_focused, android.R.attr.state_pressed},
                new int[]{-android.R.attr.state_enabled},
                new int[]{} // this should be empty to make default color as we want
        },
        new int[]{
                pressedFontColor,
                defaultFontColor,
                pressedFontColor,
                disabledFontColor,
                defaultFontColor
        }
);

This is constructor from source code:

/**
 * Creates a ColorStateList that returns the specified mapping from
 * states to colors.
 */
public ColorStateList(int[][] states, int[] colors) {
    mStateSpecs = states;
    mColors = colors;

    if (states.length > 0) {
        mDefaultColor = colors[0];

        for (int i = 0; i < states.length; i++) {
            if (states[i].length == 0) {
                mDefaultColor = colors[i];
            }
        }
    }
}

Makefiles with source files in different directories

RC's post was SUPER useful. I never thought about using the $(dir $@) function, but it did exactly what I needed it to do.

In parentDir, have a bunch of directories with source files in them: dirA, dirB, dirC. Various files depend on the object files in other directories, so I wanted to be able to make one file from within one directory, and have it make that dependency by calling the makefile associated with that dependency.

Essentially, I made one Makefile in parentDir that had (among many other things) a generic rule similar to RC's:

%.o : %.cpp
        @mkdir -p $(dir $@)
        @echo "============="
        @echo "Compiling $<"
        @$(CC) $(CFLAGS) -c $< -o $@

Each subdirectory included this upper-level makefile in order to inherit this generic rule. In each subdirectory's Makefile, I wrote a custom rule for each file so that I could keep track of everything that each individual file depended on.

Whenever I needed to make a file, I used (essentially) this rule to recursively make any/all dependencies. Perfect!

NOTE: there's a utility called "makepp" that seems to do this very task even more intuitively, but for the sake of portability and not depending on another tool, I chose to do it this way.

Hope this helps!

When and where to use GetType() or typeof()?

typeof is an operator to obtain a type known at compile-time (or at least a generic type parameter). The operand of typeof is always the name of a type or type parameter - never an expression with a value (e.g. a variable). See the C# language specification for more details.

GetType() is a method you call on individual objects, to get the execution-time type of the object.

Note that unless you only want exactly instances of TextBox (rather than instances of subclasses) you'd usually use:

if (myControl is TextBox)
{
    // Whatever
}

Or

TextBox tb = myControl as TextBox;
if (tb != null)
{
    // Use tb
}

How to configure log4j.properties for SpringJUnit4ClassRunner?

I was using Maven in eclipse and I did not want to have an additional copy of the properties file in the root folder. You can do the following in eclipse:

  1. Open run dialog (click the little arrow next to the play button and go to run configurations)
  2. Go to the "classpath" tab
  3. Select the "User Entries" and click the "Advanced" button on the right side.
  4. Now select the "Add External folder" radio button.
  5. Select the resources folder

Pycharm and sys.argv arguments

In addition to Jim's answer (sorry not enough rep points to make a comment), just wanted to point out that the arguments specified in PyCharm do not have special characters escaped, unlike what you would do on the command line. So, whereas on the command line you'd do:

python mediadb.py  /media/paul/New\ Volume/Users/paul/Documents/spinmaster/\*.png

the PyCharm parameter would be:

"/media/paul/New Volume/Users/paul/Documents/spinmaster/*.png"

Getting MAC Address

For Linux let me introduce a shell script that will show the mac address and allows to change it (MAC sniffing).

 ifconfig eth0 | grep HWaddr |cut -dH -f2|cut -d\  -f2
 00:26:6c:df:c3:95

Cut arguements may dffer (I am not an expert) try:

ifconfig etho | grep HWaddr
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:26:6c:df:c3:95

To change MAC we may do:

ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:80:48:BA:d1:30
ifconfig eth0 up

will change mac address to 00:80:48:BA:d1:30 (temporarily, will restore to actual one upon reboot).

window.location.href and window.open () methods in JavaScript

There are already answers which describes about window.location.href property and window.open() method.

I will go by Objective use:

1. To redirect the page to another

Use window.location.href. Set href property to the href of another page.

2. Open link in the new or specific window.

Use window.open(). Pass parameters as per your goal.

3. Know current address of the page

Use window.location.href. Get value of window.location.href property. You can also get specific protocol, hostname, hashstring from window.location object.

See Location Object for more information.

Python unittest passing arguments

Another method for those who really want to do this in spite of the correct remarks that you shouldn't:

import unittest

class MyTest(unittest.TestCase):

    def __init__(self, testName, extraArg):
        super(MyTest, self).__init__(testName) # calling the super class init varies for different python versions. This works for 2.7
        self.myExtraArg = extraArg

    def test_something(self):
        print(self.myExtraArg)

# call your test
suite = unittest.TestSuite()
suite.addTest(MyTest('test_something', extraArg))
unittest.TextTestRunner(verbosity=2).run(suite)

Chrome DevTools Devices does not detect device when plugged in

None of the mentioned answers worked for me. However, what worked for me is port forwarding. Steps detailed here:

  1. Ensure you have adb installed (steps here for windowd, mac, ubuntu)
  2. Ensure you have chrome running on your mobile device
  3. On your PC, run the following from command line:

    adb forward tcp:9222 localabstract:chrome_devtools_remote

  4. On running the above command, accept the authorization on your mobile phone. Below is the kind of output I see on my laptop:

    $:/> adb forward tcp:9222 localabstract:chrome_devtools_remote

    * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *

    * daemon started successfully *

  5. Now open your chrome and enter 'localhost:9222' and you shall see the active tab to inspect.

How to display loading message when an iFrame is loading?

Here's a quick solution for most of the cases:

CSS:

.iframe-loading {
    background:url(/img/loading.gif) center center no-repeat;
}

You can use an animated loading GIF if you want to,

HTML:

<div class="iframe-loading">
    <iframe src="http://your_iframe_url_goes_here"  onload="$('.iframe-loading').css('background-image', 'none');"></iframe>
</div>

Using the onload event you can remove the loading image after the source page is loaded inside your iframe.

If you are not using jQuery, just put an id into the div and replace this part of code:

$('.iframe-loading').css('background-image', 'none');

by something like this:

document.getElementById("myDivName").style.backgroundImage = "none";

All the best!

What are the different types of keys in RDBMS?

Partial Key:

It is a set of attributes that can uniquely identify weak entities and that are related to same owner entity. It is sometime called as Discriminator.

Alternate Key:

All Candidate Keys excluding the Primary Key are known as Alternate Keys.

Artificial Key:

If no obvious key, either stand alone or compound is available, then the last resort is to simply create a key, by assigning a unique number to each record or occurrence. Then this is known as developing an artificial key.

Compound Key:

If no single data element uniquely identifies occurrences within a construct, then combining multiple elements to create a unique identifier for the construct is known as creating a compound key.

Natural Key:

When one of the data elements stored within a construct is utilized as the primary key, then it is called the natural key.

window.onload vs <body onload=""/>

They both work the same. However, note that if both are defined, only one of them will be invoked. I generally avoid using either of them directly. Instead, you can attach an event handler to the load event. This way you can incorporate more easily other JS packages which might also need to attach a callback to the onload event.

Any JS framework will have cross-browser methods for event handlers.

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https
RewriteRule ^/(.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [NC,R=301,L]

Eplanations:

RewriteEngine on

==> enable the engine at all

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]

==> match on non-https connections, or (not setting [OR] would cause an implicit AND !)

RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https

==> match on forwarded connections (proxy, loadbalancer, etc.) without https

RewriteRule ^/(.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [NC,R=301,L]

==> if one of both Conditions match, do the rewrite of the whole URL, sending a 301 to have this 'learned' by the client (some do, some don't) and the L for the last rule.

Subtract days from a DateTime

The object (i.e. destination variable) for the AddDays method can't be the same as the source.

Instead of:

DateTime today = DateTime.Today;
today.AddDays(-7);

Try this instead:

DateTime today = DateTime.Today;
DateTime sevenDaysEarlier = today.AddDays(-7);

Convert laravel object to array

UPDATE since version 5.4 of Laravel it is no longer possible.

You can change your db config, like @Varun suggested, or if you want to do it just in this very case, then:

DB::setFetchMode(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);

// then
DB::table(..)->get(); // array of arrays instead of objects

// of course to revert the fetch mode you need to set it again
DB::setFetchMode(PDO::FETCH_CLASS);

For New Laravel above 5.4 (Ver > 5.4) see https://laravel.com/docs/5.4/upgrade fetch mode section

Event::listen(StatementPrepared::class, function ($event) {
    $event->statement->setFetchMode(...);
});

How do I force Maven to use my local repository rather than going out to remote repos to retrieve artifacts?

The -o option didn't work for me because the artifact is still in development and not yet uploaded and maven (3.5.x) still tries to download it from the remote repository because it's the first time, according to the error I get.

However this fixed it for me: https://maven.apache.org/general.html#importing-jars

After this manual install there's no need to use the offline option either.

UPDATE

I've just rebuilt the dependency and I had to re-import it: the regular mvn clean install was not sufficient for me

How to name variables on the fly?

Don't make data frames. Keep the list, name its elements but do not attach it.

The biggest reason for this is that if you make variables on the go, almost always you will later on have to iterate through each one of them to perform something useful. There you will again be forced to iterate through each one of the names that you have created on the fly.

It is far easier to name the elements of the list and iterate through the names.

As far as attach is concerned, its really bad programming practice in R and can lead to a lot of trouble if you are not careful.

What does the "yield" keyword do?

Here's a simple yield based approach, to compute the fibonacci series, explained:

def fib(limit=50):
    a, b = 0, 1
    for i in range(limit):
       yield b
       a, b = b, a+b

When you enter this into your REPL and then try and call it, you'll get a mystifying result:

>>> fib()
<generator object fib at 0x7fa38394e3b8>

This is because the presence of yield signaled to Python that you want to create a generator, that is, an object that generates values on demand.

So, how do you generate these values? This can either be done directly by using the built-in function next, or, indirectly by feeding it to a construct that consumes values.

Using the built-in next() function, you directly invoke .next/__next__, forcing the generator to produce a value:

>>> g = fib()
>>> next(g)
1
>>> next(g)
1
>>> next(g)
2
>>> next(g)
3
>>> next(g)
5

Indirectly, if you provide fib to a for loop, a list initializer, a tuple initializer, or anything else that expects an object that generates/produces values, you'll "consume" the generator until no more values can be produced by it (and it returns):

results = []
for i in fib(30):       # consumes fib
    results.append(i)
# can also be accomplished with
results = list(fib(30)) # consumes fib

Similarly, with a tuple initializer:

>>> tuple(fib(5))       # consumes fib
(1, 1, 2, 3, 5)

A generator differs from a function in the sense that it is lazy. It accomplishes this by maintaining it's local state and allowing you to resume whenever you need to.

When you first invoke fib by calling it:

f = fib()

Python compiles the function, encounters the yield keyword and simply returns a generator object back at you. Not very helpful it seems.

When you then request it generates the first value, directly or indirectly, it executes all statements that it finds, until it encounters a yield, it then yields back the value you supplied to yield and pauses. For an example that better demonstrates this, let's use some print calls (replace with print "text" if on Python 2):

def yielder(value):
    """ This is an infinite generator. Only use next on it """
    while 1:
        print("I'm going to generate the value for you")
        print("Then I'll pause for a while")
        yield value
        print("Let's go through it again.")

Now, enter in the REPL:

>>> gen = yielder("Hello, yield!")

you have a generator object now waiting for a command for it to generate a value. Use next and see what get's printed:

>>> next(gen) # runs until it finds a yield
I'm going to generate the value for you
Then I'll pause for a while
'Hello, yield!'

The unquoted results are what's printed. The quoted result is what is returned from yield. Call next again now:

>>> next(gen) # continues from yield and runs again
Let's go through it again.
I'm going to generate the value for you
Then I'll pause for a while
'Hello, yield!'

The generator remembers it was paused at yield value and resumes from there. The next message is printed and the search for the yield statement to pause at it performed again (due to the while loop).

How to change the text on the action bar

For future developers that are using AndroidX and the navigation architectural component.

Instead of setting the toolbar title using one of the solutions above, which can be very painful if you want to set it dynamically on a back stack change, you can set a placeholder for the title of the fragment in the navigation graph like the following:

<fragment
    android:id="@+id/some_fragment"
    android:name="package.SomeFragment"
    android:label="Hello {placeholder}"
    tools:layout="@layout/fragment_some">
    <argument
        android:name="placeholder"
        app:argType="string" />
</fragment>

The placeholder value has to be provided using the FragmentDirections (via the action method).

It is then replaced in the title and show like Hello World (when placeholder = "World").

Python ValueError: too many values to unpack

self.materials is a dict and by default you are iterating over just the keys (which are strings).

Since self.materials has more than two keys*, they can't be unpacked into the tuple "k, m", hence the ValueError exception is raised.

In Python 2.x, to iterate over the keys and the values (the tuple "k, m"), we use self.materials.iteritems().

However, since you're throwing the key away anyway, you may as well simply iterate over the dictionary's values:

for m in self.materials.itervalues():

In Python 3.x, prefer dict.values() (which returns a dictionary view object):

for m in self.materials.values():

What does @@variable mean in Ruby?

@@ denotes a class variable, i.e. it can be inherited.

This means that if you create a subclass of that class, it will inherit the variable. So if you have a class Vehicle with the class variable @@number_of_wheels then if you create a class Car < Vehicle then it too will have the class variable @@number_of_wheels

AttributeError("'str' object has no attribute 'read'")

If you get a python error like this:

AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'some_method'

You probably poisoned your object accidentally by overwriting your object with a string.

How to reproduce this error in python with a few lines of code:

#!/usr/bin/env python
import json
def foobar(json):
    msg = json.loads(json)

foobar('{"batman": "yes"}')

Run it, which prints:

AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'loads'

But change the name of the variablename, and it works fine:

#!/usr/bin/env python
import json
def foobar(jsonstring):
    msg = json.loads(jsonstring)

foobar('{"batman": "yes"}')

This error is caused when you tried to run a method within a string. String has a few methods, but not the one you are invoking. So stop trying to invoke a method which String does not define and start looking for where you poisoned your object.

Writing files in Node.js

Currently there are three ways to write a file:

  1. fs.write(fd, buffer, offset, length, position, callback)

    You need to wait for the callback to ensure that the buffer is written to disk. It's not buffered.

  2. fs.writeFile(filename, data, [encoding], callback)

    All data must be stored at the same time; you cannot perform sequential writes.

  3. fs.createWriteStream(path, [options])

    Creates a WriteStream, which is convenient because you don't need to wait for a callback. But again, it's not buffered.

A WriteStream, as the name says, is a stream. A stream by definition is “a buffer” containing data which moves in one direction (source ? destination). But a writable stream is not necessarily “buffered”. A stream is “buffered” when you write n times, and at time n+1, the stream sends the buffer to the kernel (because it's full and needs to be flushed).

In other words: “A buffer” is the object. Whether or not it “is buffered” is a property of that object.

If you look at the code, the WriteStream inherits from a writable Stream object. If you pay attention, you’ll see how they flush the content; they don't have any buffering system.

If you write a string, it’s converted to a buffer, and then sent to the native layer and written to disk. When writing strings, they're not filling up any buffer. So, if you do:

write("a")
write("b")
write("c")

You're doing:

fs.write(new Buffer("a"))
fs.write(new Buffer("b"))
fs.write(new Buffer("c"))

That’s three calls to the I/O layer. Although you're using “buffers”, the data is not buffered. A buffered stream would do: fs.write(new Buffer ("abc")), one call to the I/O layer.

As of now, in Node.js v0.12 (stable version announced 02/06/2015) now supports two functions: cork() and uncork(). It seems that these functions will finally allow you to buffer/flush the write calls.

For example, in Java there are some classes that provide buffered streams (BufferedOutputStream, BufferedWriter...). If you write three bytes, these bytes will be stored in the buffer (memory) instead of doing an I/O call just for three bytes. When the buffer is full the content is flushed and saved to disk. This improves performance.

I'm not discovering anything, just remembering how a disk access should be done.

Difference between Date(dateString) and new Date(dateString)

You're not getting an "invalid date" error. Rather, the value of temp is "Invalid Date".

Is your date string in a valid format? If you're using Firefox, check Date.parse

In Firefox javascript console:

>>> Date.parse("2010-08-17 12:09:36");
NaN
>>> Date.parse("Aug 9, 1995")
807944400000

I would try a different date string format.

How do I dynamically set HTML5 data- attributes using react?

Note - if you want to pass a data attribute to a React Component, you need to handle them a little differently than other props.

2 options

Don't use camel case

<Option data-img-src='value' ... />

And then in the component, because of the dashes, you need to refer to the prop in quotes.

// @flow
class Option extends React.Component {

  props: {
    'data-img-src': string
  }

And when you refer to it later, you don't use the dot syntax

  render () {
    return (
      <option data-img-src={this.props['data-img-src']} >...</option>
    )
  }
}

Or use camel case

<Option dataImgSrc='value' ... />

And then in the component, you need to convert.

// @flow
class Option extends React.Component {

  props: {
    dataImgSrc: string
  }

And when you refer to it later, you don't use the dot syntax

  render () {
    return (
      <option data-img-src={this.props.dataImgSrc} >...</option>
    )
  }
}

Mainly just realize data- attributes and aria- attributes are treated specially. You are allowed to use hyphens in the attribute name in those two cases.

Understanding the difference between Object.create() and new SomeFunction()

Accordingly to this answer and to this video new keyword does next things:

  1. Creates new object.

  2. Links new object to constructor function (prototype).

  3. Makes this variable point to the new object.

  4. Executes constructor function using the new object and implicit perform return this;

  5. Assigns constructor function name to new object's property constructor.

Object.create performs only 1st and 2nd steps!!!

Allow access permission to write in Program Files of Windows 7

I was looking for answers. I found only one.

None of these work for me. I am not trying to write temporary files, unless this is defined as nonsystem files. Although I am designated the admin on my user profile, with full admin rights indicated in the UAC, I cannot write to program files or windows. This is very irritating.

I try to save an image found online directly to the windows/web/wallpaper folder and it won't let me. Instead, I must save it to my desktop (I REFUSE to navigate to "my documents/pictures/etc" as I refuse to USE such folders, I have my own directory tree thank you) then, from the desktop, cut and paste it to the windows/web/wallpaper folder. And you are telling me I should do that and smile? As an admin user, I SHOULD be able to save directly to its destination folder. My permissions in drive properties/security and in directory properties/security say I can write, but I can't. Not to program files, program files (86) and windows.

How about saving a file I just modified for a game in Program Files (86) (name of game) folder. It won't let me. I open the file to modify it, I can't save it without first either saving it to desktop etc as above, or opening the program which is used for modifying the file first as admin, which means first navigating all the way over to another part of the directory tree where I store those user mod programs, then within the program selecting to open file and navigate again to the file I could have just clicked on to modify in the first place from my projects folder, only to discover that this won't work either! It saves the file, but the file cannot be located. It is there, but invisible. The only solution is to save to desktop as above.

I shouldn't have to do all this as an admin user. However, if I use the true admin account all works fine. But I don't want to use the real admin account. I want to use a user account with admin rights. It says I have admin rights, but I don't.

And, finally, I refuse to store my portables in %appdata%. This is not how I wish to navigate through my directory tree. My personal installations which I use as portables are stored in the directory I create as a navigation preference.

So, here is the tried and true answer I have found:

From what I have seen so far.... unless one uses the real admin account, these permissions just aren't ever really available to any other user with admin privileges in the Windows Vista and Windows 7 OS's. While it was simple to set admin privileges in Windows XP, later versions have taken this away for all but those who can comfortably hack around.

C# An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine

An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine

That is a boiler-plate error message, it comes out of Windows. The underlying error code is WSAECONNABORTED. Which really doesn't mean more than "connection was aborted". You have to be a bit careful about the "your host machine" part of the phrase. In the vast majority of Windows application programs, it is indeed the host that the desktop app is connected to that aborted the connection. Usually a server somewhere else.

The roles are reversed however when you implement your own server. Now you need to read the error message as "aborted by the application at the other end of the wire". Which is of course not uncommon when you implement a server, client programs that use your server are not unlikely to abort a connection for whatever reason. It can mean that a fire-wall or a proxy terminated the connection but that's not very likely since they typically would not allow the connection to be established in the first place.

You don't really know why a connection was aborted unless you have insight what is going on at the other end of the wire. That's of course hard to come by. If your server is reachable through the Internet then don't discount the possibility that you are being probed by a port scanner. Or your customers, looking for a game cheat.

            var jsonOfLog = JSON.stringify(data);

            $.ajax({
                type: 'POST',
                dataType: 'text',
                url: "Home/ConvertLogInfoToXml",

Pay special attention to data, when sending text, you need to send a variable that matches the name of your parameter. It's not pretty, but it will get you your coveted unformatted string.

When running this, jsonOfLog looks like this in the server function:

Change Activity's theme programmatically

This one works fine for me :

theme.applyStyle(R.style.AppTheme, true)

Usage:

  override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
    //The call goes right after super.onCreate() and before setContentView()
    theme.applyStyle(R.style.AppTheme, true)

Javascript replace all "%20" with a space

The percentage % sign followed by two hexadecimal numbers (UTF-8 character representation) typically denotes a string which has been encoded to be part of a URI. This ensures that characters that would otherwise have special meaning don't interfere. In your case %20 is immediately recognisable as a whitespace character - while not really having any meaning in a URI it is encoded in order to avoid breaking the string into multiple "parts".

Don't get me wrong, regex is the bomb! However any web technology worth caring about will already have tools available in it's library to handle standards like this for you. Why re-invent the wheel...?

var str = 'xPasswords%20do%20not%20match';
console.log( decodeURI(str) ); // "xPasswords do not match"

Javascript has both decodeURI and decodeURIComponent which differ slightly in respect to their encodeURI and encodeURIComponent counterparts - you should familiarise yourself with the documentation.

Writing file to web server - ASP.NET

Keep in mind you'll also have to give the IUSR account write access for the folder once you upload to your web server.

Personally I recommend not allowing write access to the root folder unless you have a good reason for doing so. And then you need to be careful what sort of files you allow to be saved so you don't inadvertently allow someone to write their own ASPX pages.

Java HTTP Client Request with defined timeout

HttpParams is deprecated in the new Apache HTTPClient library. Using the code provided by Laz leads to deprecation warnings.

I suggest to use RequestConfig instead on your HttpGet or HttpPost instance:

final RequestConfig params = RequestConfig.custom().setConnectTimeout(3000).setSocketTimeout(3000).build();
httpPost.setConfig(params);

How do you determine the size of a file in C?

Don't use int. Files over 2 gigabytes in size are common as dirt these days

Don't use unsigned int. Files over 4 gigabytes in size are common as some slightly-less-common dirt

IIRC the standard library defines off_t as an unsigned 64 bit integer, which is what everyone should be using. We can redefine that to be 128 bits in a few years when we start having 16 exabyte files hanging around.

If you're on windows, you should use GetFileSizeEx - it actually uses a signed 64 bit integer, so they'll start hitting problems with 8 exabyte files. Foolish Microsoft! :-)

R object identification

I usually start out with some combination of:

typeof(obj)
class(obj)
sapply(obj, class)
sapply(obj, attributes)
attributes(obj)
names(obj)

as appropriate based on what's revealed. For example, try with:

obj <- data.frame(a=1:26, b=letters)
obj <- list(a=1:26, b=letters, c=list(d=1:26, e=letters))
data(cars)
obj <- lm(dist ~ speed, data=cars)

..etc.

If obj is an S3 or S4 object, you can also try methods or showMethods, showClass, etc. Patrick Burns' R Inferno has a pretty good section on this (sec #7).

EDIT: Dirk and Hadley mention str(obj) in their answers. It really is much better than any of the above for a quick and even detailed peek into an object.

C# refresh DataGridView when updating or inserted on another form

putting a quick example, should be a sufficient starting point

Code in Form A

public event EventHandler<EventArgs> RowAdded;

private void btnRowAdded_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
     // insert data
     // if successful raise event
     OnRowAddedEvent();
}

private void OnRowAddedEvent()
{
     var listener = RowAdded;
     if (listener != null)
         listener(this, EventArgs.Empty);
}

Code in Form B

private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
     var frm = new Form2();
     frm.RowAdded += new EventHandler<EventArgs>(frm_RowAdded);
     frm.Show();
}

void frm_RowAdded(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
     // retrieve data again
}

You can even consider creating your own EventArgs class that can contain the newly added data. You can then use this to directly add the data to a new row in DatagridView

Where is the documentation for the values() method of Enum?

The method is implicitly defined (i.e. generated by the compiler).

From the JLS:

In addition, if E is the name of an enum type, then that type has the following implicitly declared static methods:

/**
* Returns an array containing the constants of this enum
* type, in the order they're declared. This method may be
* used to iterate over the constants as follows:
*
*    for(E c : E.values())
*        System.out.println(c);
*
* @return an array containing the constants of this enum
* type, in the order they're declared
*/
public static E[] values();

/**
* Returns the enum constant of this type with the specified
* name.
* The string must match exactly an identifier used to declare
* an enum constant in this type. (Extraneous whitespace
* characters are not permitted.)
*
* @return the enum constant with the specified name
* @throws IllegalArgumentException if this enum type has no
* constant with the specified name
*/
public static E valueOf(String name);

How to execute an oracle stored procedure?

Oracle 10g Express Edition ships with Oracle Application Express (Apex) built-in. You're running this in its SQL Commands window, which doesn't support SQL*Plus syntax.

That doesn't matter, because (as you have discovered) the BEGIN...END syntax does work in Apex.

django templates: include and extends

From Django docs:

The include tag should be considered as an implementation of "render this subtemplate and include the HTML", not as "parse this subtemplate and include its contents as if it were part of the parent". This means that there is no shared state between included templates -- each include is a completely independent rendering process.

So Django doesn't grab any blocks from your commondata.html and it doesn't know what to do with rendered html outside blocks.

Parsing a YAML file in Python, and accessing the data?

Since PyYAML's yaml.load() function parses YAML documents to native Python data structures, you can just access items by key or index. Using the example from the question you linked:

import yaml
with open('tree.yaml', 'r') as f:
    doc = yaml.load(f)

To access branch1 text you would use:

txt = doc["treeroot"]["branch1"]
print txt
"branch1 text"

because, in your YAML document, the value of the branch1 key is under the treeroot key.

Running command line silently with VbScript and getting output?

I have taken this and various other comments and created a bit more advanced function for running an application and getting the output.

Example to Call Function: Will output the DIR list of C:\ for Directories only. The output will be returned to the variable CommandResults as well as remain in C:\OUTPUT.TXT.

CommandResults = vFn_Sys_Run_CommandOutput("CMD.EXE /C DIR C:\ /AD",1,1,"C:\OUTPUT.TXT",0,1)

Function

Function vFn_Sys_Run_CommandOutput (Command, Wait, Show, OutToFile, DeleteOutput, NoQuotes)

'Command = The command line instruction you wish to run.
'Wait = 1/0; 1 will wait for the command to finish before continuing.
'Show = 1/0; 1 will show for the command window.
'OutToFile = The file you wish to have the output recorded to.
'DeleteOutput = 1/0; 1 deletes the output file. Output is still returned to variable.
'NoQuotes = 1/0; 1 will skip wrapping the command with quotes, some commands wont work

Trigger Change event when the Input value changed programmatically?

Vanilla JS solution:

var el = document.getElementById('changeProgramatic');
el.value='New Value'
el.dispatchEvent(new Event('change'));

Note that dispatchEvent doesn't work in old IE (see: caniuse). So you should probably only use it on internal websites (not on websites having wide audience).

So as of 2019 you just might want to make sure your customers/audience don't use Windows XP (yes, some still do in 2019). You might want to use conditional comments to warn customers that you don't support old IE (pre IE 11 in this case), but note that conditional comments only work until IE9 (don't work in IE10). So you might want to use feature detection instead. E.g. you could do an early check for: typeof document.body.dispatchEvent === 'function'.

Spring Could not Resolve placeholder

For properties that need to be managed outside of the WAR:

<context:property-placeholder location="file:///C:/application.yml"/>

For example if inside application.yml are name and id

Then you can create bean in runtime inside xml spring

<bean id="id1" class="my.class.Item">
    <property name="name" value="${name}"/>
    <property name="id" value="${id}"/>
</bean>

The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication

I had the same problem while trying to consume net.tcp wcf service endpoint in a http asmx service.

As I saw no one wrote specific answer WHY is this problem occurring, but only how to be handled properly.

I've been struggling with it several days in a row and finally I found out where the problem comes from in my case.

Initially I thought that when you make a reference to a service the config file will be configured regarding security tag the same way as it's in the source, but that was not the case and I should take care of it manually. In my case I had only

<netTcpBinding>
    <binding name="NetTcpBinding_IAuthenticationLoggerService"
    </binding>
</netTcpBinding>`

Later I saw that the security part is missing and it should looks like this

<netTcpBinding>
    <binding name="NetTcpBinding_IAuthenticationLoggerService" transferMode="Buffered">
      <security mode="None">
        <transport clientCredentialType="None"/>
      </security>
    </binding>
  </netTcpBinding>

The second problem in my case was that I was using transferMode="Streamed" on my source WCF service and in the client I had nothing specific about it, which was bad, because the default transferMode is Buffered and it's important on both places source and client to be configured in the same way.

Detect Safari browser

I know this question is old, but I thought of posting the answer anyway as it may help someone. The above solutions were failing in some edge cases, so we had to implement it in a way that handles iOS, Desktop, and other platforms separately.

function isSafari() {
    var ua = window.navigator.userAgent;
    var iOS = !!ua.match(/iP(ad|od|hone)/i);
    var hasSafariInUa = !!ua.match(/Safari/i);
    var noOtherBrowsersInUa = !ua.match(/Chrome|CriOS|OPiOS|mercury|FxiOS|Firefox/i)
    var result = false;
    if(iOS) { //detecting Safari in IOS mobile browsers
        var webkit = !!ua.match(/WebKit/i);
        result = webkit && hasSafariInUa && noOtherBrowsersInUa
    } else if(window.safari !== undefined){ //detecting Safari in Desktop Browsers
        result = true;
    } else { // detecting Safari in other platforms
        result = hasSafariInUa && noOtherBrowsersInUa
    }
    return result;
}

In your opinion, what do you think is going to be the fastest?

Python's time.clock() vs. time.time() accuracy?

On Unix time.clock() measures the amount of CPU time that has been used by the current process, so it's no good for measuring elapsed time from some point in the past. On Windows it will measure wall-clock seconds elapsed since the first call to the function. On either system time.time() will return seconds passed since the epoch.

If you're writing code that's meant only for Windows, either will work (though you'll use the two differently - no subtraction is necessary for time.clock()). If this is going to run on a Unix system or you want code that is guaranteed to be portable, you will want to use time.time().

The input to this function needs to be one-dimensional, so multiple columns will need to be combined. The simplest way is to select the columns you want and then view the values in a flattened NumPy array. The whole operation looks like this:

>>> pd.unique(df[['Col1', 'Col2']].values.ravel('K'))
array(['Bob', 'Joe', 'Bill', 'Mary', 'Steve'], dtype=object)

Note that ravel() is an array method that returns a view (if possible) of a multidimensional array. The argument 'K' tells the method to flatten the array in the order the elements are stored in the memory (pandas typically stores underlying arrays in Fortran-contiguous order; columns before rows). This can be significantly faster than using the method's default 'C' order.

An alternative way is to select the columns and pass them to np.unique:

>>> np.unique(df[['Col1', 'Col2']].values)
array(['Bill', 'Bob', 'Joe', 'Mary', 'Steve'], dtype=object)

There is no need to use ravel() here as the method handles multidimensional arrays. Even so, this is likely to be slower than pd.unique as it uses a sort-based algorithm rather than a hashtable to identify unique values.

The difference in speed is significant for larger DataFrames (especially if there are only a handful of unique values):

>>> df1 = pd.concat([df]*100000, ignore_index=True) # DataFrame with 500000 rows
>>> %timeit np.unique(df1[['Col1', 'Col2']].values)
1 loop, best of 3: 1.12 s per loop

>>> %timeit pd.unique(df1[['Col1', 'Col2']].values.ravel('K'))
10 loops, best of 3: 38.9 ms per loop

>>> %timeit pd.unique(df1[['Col1', 'Col2']].values.ravel()) # ravel using C order
10 loops, best of 3: 49.9 ms per loop

Can a Byte[] Array be written to a file in C#?

Asp.net (c#)

// This is server path, where application is hosted.

var path = @"C:\Websites\mywebsite\profiles\";

//file in bytes array

var imageBytes = client.DownloadData(imagePath);

//file extension

var fileExtension = System.IO.Path.GetExtension(imagePath);

//writing(saving) the files on given path. Appending employee id as file name and file extension.

File.WriteAllBytes(path + dataTable.Rows[0]["empid"].ToString() + fileExtension, imageBytes);

Next Step:

You may need to Provide access to profile folder for iis user.

  1. right click on profile folder
  2. go to security tab
  3. click "Edit",
  4. give full control to "IIS_IUSRS" (IF THIS USER NOT EXISTS THEN CLICK ON ADD AND TYPE "IIS_IUSRS" AND CLICK ON "Check Names".

Can the :not() pseudo-class have multiple arguments?

If you install the "cssnext" Post CSS plugin, then you can safely start using the syntax that you want to use right now.

Using cssnext will turn this:

input:not([type="radio"], [type="checkbox"]) {
  /* css here */
}

Into this:

input:not([type="radio"]):not([type="checkbox"]) {
  /* css here */
}

Original purpose of <input type="hidden">?

basically hidden fields will be more useful and advantages to use with multi step form. we can use hidden fields to pass one step information to next step using hidden and keep it forwarding till the end step.

  1. CSRF tokens.

Cross-site request forgery is a very common website vulnerability. Requiring a secret, user-specific token in all form submissions will prevent CSRF attacks since attack sites cannot guess what the proper token is and any form submissions they perform on the behalf of the user will always fail.

  1. Save state in multi-page forms.

If you need to store what step in a multi-page form the user is currently on, use hidden input fields. The user doesn't need to see this information, so hide it in a hidden input field.

General rule: Use the field to store anything that the user doesn't need to see, but that you want to send to the server on form submission.

CUDA incompatible with my gcc version

If using cmake for me none of the hacks of editing the files and linking worked so I compiled using the flags which specify the gcc/g++ version.
cmake -DCMAKE_C_COMPILER=gcc-6 -DCMAKE_CXX_COMPILER=g++-6 ..

Worked like charm.
