First you should read an explanation on the output of free. Bottom line: you have at least 10.7 GB of memory readily usable by processes.

Then you should define what "memory usage" is for a process (it's not easy or unambiguous, trust me).

Then we might be able to help more :-)

If you read the help file for ?boxplot, you'll see there is a names= parameter.

I had a case where solution was hard to figure out. This is not exactly relevant to particular question, but might help someone looking to solve a case with same error message when strptime is fed with timezone information. In my case, the reason for throwing

ValueError: time data '2016-02-28T08:27:16.000-07:00' does not match format '%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S.%f%z'

was presence of last colon in the timezone part. While in some locales (Russian one, for example) code was able to execute well, in another (English one) it was failing. Removing the last colon helped remedy my situation.

• does not require any allocations (unlike int[], Box, OptionalInt),
• accepts any CharSequence or a part of it instead of a whole String,
• can use any radix which Integer.parseInt can, i.e. [2,36],
• does not depend on any libraries.

The only downside is that there's no difference between toIntOfDefault("-1", -1) and toIntOrDefault("oops", -1).

To work around the RETURN/GO issue you could put RAISERROR ('Oi! Stop!', 20, 1) WITH LOG at the top.

Everything that interacts with the UI must be called in the UI thread (unless it is a frozen object). To do that, you can use the dispatcher.

I use BeginInvoke here, usually a backgroundworker doesn't need to wait that the UI updates. If you want to wait, you can use Invoke. But you should be careful not to call BeginInvoke to fast to often, this can get really nasty.

By the way, The BackgroundWorker class helps with this kind of taks. It allows Reporting changes, like a percentage and dispatches this automatically from the Background thread into the ui thread. For the most thread <> update ui tasks the BackgroundWorker is a great tool.

If you already have a byte array then you will need to know what type of encoding was used to make it into that byte array.

For example, if the byte array was created like this:

Thanks for the post. "Interference issues" was intentionally vague. At the time of writing, the issues were still being investigated, but it was clear there were several broken scenarios.

For instance, some applications use Assemby.LoadWithPartialName to load the highest version of an assembly. If the highest version was compiled with v4, then a v2 (3.0 or 3.5) app could not load it, and the app would crash, even if there were a version that would have worked. Originally, we partitioned the GAC under it's original location, but that caused some problems with windows upgrade scenarios. Both of these involved code that had already shipped, so we moved our (version-partitioned GAC to another place.

This shouldn't have any impact to most applications, and doesn't add any maintenance burden. Both locations should only be accessed or modified using the native GAC APIs, which deal with the partitioning as expected. The places where this does surface are through APIs that expose the paths of the GAC such as GetCachePath, or examining the path of mscorlib loaded into managed code.

It's worth noting that we modified GAC locations when we released v2 as well when we introduced architecture as part of the assembly identity. Those added GAC_MSIL, GAC_32, and GAC_64, although all still under %windir%\assembly. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option for this release.

The term pure virtual refers to virtual functions that need to be implemented by a subclass and have not been implemented by the base class. You designate a method as pure virtual by using the virtual keyword and adding a =0 at the end of the method declaration.

I recently just ran into this issue as well. I had a very large table in the dialog div. It was >15,000 rows. When the .empty() was called on the dialog div, I was getting the error above.

I found a round-about solution where before I call cleaning the dialog box, I would remove every other row from the very large table, then call the .empty(). It seemed to have worked though. It seems that my old version of JQuery can't handle such large elements.

As your methods an int datatype, you should use "==" instead of equals()

I got this Error today while installing latest Java 10.0.1 ( downloaded JDK in official oracle website) and also downloaded NetBeans version 8.2.

My JDK installation went as smooth as Cake.

But the problem is in Netbeans installation. When I tried to install Netbeans, the error message showed was: "JDK was not installed on your system. Try using Javahome installer argument". But nothing helped me.

Solution:

• Download JRE alone from their website.
• Move your NetBeans installer to local drives other than c.
• Install JRE by clicking the exe file.
• Set JAVA_HOME, PATH in environment variables.
• Install NetBeans now.

Those classes are common extension points for Java UI designs. First off, realize that they don't necessarily have much to do with each other directly, so trying to find a relationship between them might be counterproductive.

JApplet - A base class that let's you write code that will run within the context of a browser, like for an interactive web page. This is cool and all but it brings limitations which is the price for it playing nice in the real world. Normally JApplet is used when you want to have your own UI in a web page. I've always wondered why people don't take advantage of applets to store state for a session so no database or cookies are needed.

JComponent - A base class for objects which intend to interact with Swing.

JFrame - Used to represent the stuff a window should have. This includes borders (resizeable y/n?), titlebar (App name or other message), controls (minimize/maximize allowed?), and event handlers for various system events like 'window close' (permit app to exit yet?).

JPanel - Generic class used to gather other elements together. This is more important with working with the visual layout or one of the provided layout managers e.g. gridbaglayout, etc. For example, you have a textbox that is bigger then the area you have reserved. Put the textbox in a scrolling pane and put that pane into a JPanel. Then when you place the JPanel, it will be more manageable in terms of layout.

After using Firebase a considerable amount I've come to find something.

If you intend to use it for large, real time apps, it isn't the best choice. It has its own wide array of problems including a bad error handling system and limitations. You will spend significant time trying to understand Firebase and it's kinks. It's also quite easy for a project to become a monolithic thing that goes out of control. MongoDB is a much better choice as far as a backend for a large app goes.

However, if you need to make a small app or quickly prototype something, Firebase is a great choice. It'll be incredibly easy way to hit the ground running.

@Mahender, you probably meant the difference between \W (instead of \w) and \b. If not, then I would agree with @BoltClock and @jwismar above. Otherwise continue reading.

\W would match any non-word character and so its easy to try to use it to match word boundaries. The problem is that it will not match the start or end of a line. \b is more suited for matching word boundaries as it will also match the start or end of a line. Roughly speaking (more experienced users can correct me here) \b can be thought of as (\W|^|$). [Edit: as @?mega mentions below, \b is a zero-length match so (\W|^|$) is not strictly correct, but hopefully helps explain the diff]

Quick example: For the string Hello World, .+\W would match Hello_ (with the space) but will not match World. .+\b would match both Hello and World.

When you use git push origin :staleStuff, it automatically removes origin/staleStuff, so when you ran git remote prune origin, you have pruned some branch that was removed by someone else. It's more likely that your co-workers now need to run git prune to get rid of branches you have removed.

So what exactly git remote prune does? Main idea: local branches (not tracking branches) are not touched by git remote prune command and should be removed manually.

Now, a real-world example for better understanding:

You have a remote repository with 2 branches: master and feature. Let's assume that you are working on both branches, so as a result you have these references in your local repository (full reference names are given to avoid any confusion):

• refs/heads/master (short name master)
• refs/heads/feature (short name feature)
• refs/remotes/origin/master (short name origin/master)
• refs/remotes/origin/feature (short name origin/feature)

Now, a typical scenario:

1. Some other developer finishes all work on the feature, merges it into master and removes feature branch from remote repository.
2. By default, when you do git fetch (or git pull), no references are removed from your local repository, so you still have all those 4 references.
3. You decide to clean them up, and run git remote prune origin.
4. git detects that feature branch no longer exists, so refs/remotes/origin/feature is a stale branch which should be removed.
5. Now you have 3 references, including refs/heads/feature, because git remote prune does not remove any refs/heads/* references.

It is possible to identify local branches, associated with remote tracking branches, by branch.<branch_name>.merge configuration parameter. This parameter is not really required for anything to work (probably except git pull), so it might be missing.

The registry is a no-go. You're not sure whether the user which uses your application, has sufficient rights to write to the registry.

You can use the app.config file to save application-level settings (that are the same for each user who uses your application).

I would store user-specific settings in an XML file, which would be saved in Isolated Storage or in the SpecialFolder.ApplicationData directory.

Next to that, as from .NET 2.0, it is possible to store values back to the app.config file.

I solved it by switching tohttp protocol from the file protocol.

printf accepts a variable number of arguments. Those can only have Plain Old Data (POD) types. Code that passes anything other than POD to printf only compiles because the compiler assumes you got your format right. %s means that the respective argument is supposed to be a pointer to a char. In your case it is an std::string not const char*. printf does not know it because the argument type goes lost and is supposed to be restored from the format parameter. When turning that std::string argument into const char* the resulting pointer will point to some irrelevant region of memory instead of your desired C string. For that reason your code prints out gibberish.

While printf is an excellent choice for printing out formatted text, (especially if you intend to have padding), it can be dangerous if you haven't enabled compiler warnings. Always enable warnings because then mistakes like this are easily avoidable. There is no reason to use the clumsy std::cout mechanism if the printf family can do the same task in a much faster and prettier way. Just make sure you have enabled all warnings (-Wall -Wextra) and you will be good. In case you use your own custom printf implementation you should declare it with the __attribute__ mechanism that enables the compiler to check the format string against the parameters provided.

A 2019 answer if you're using .NET Core - use the Nuget ToDataTable library. Advantages:

• Better performance than reflection or using DataTableProxy
• Also creates SqlParameters for use with SQL Server Table-Valued Parameters

While SimpleXML provides a way to remove XML nodes, its modification capabilities are somewhat limited. One other solution is to resort to using the DOM extension. dom_import_simplexml() will help you with converting your SimpleXMLElement into a DOMElement.

Client is a low level class object. For each client call, you need to explicitly specify the targeting resources, the designated service target name must be pass long. You will lose the abstraction ability.

I had this problem when I was trying to run commands through CLI.

It was a problem with system looking at the JRE folder i.e. D:\Program Files\Java\jre8\bin. If we look in there, there is no Tools.jar, hence the error.

You need to find where the JDK is, in my case: D:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_11, and if you look in the lib directory, you will see Tools.jar.

Yes, there's in fact many reasons why you can access AWS Lambda like and HTTP Endpoint.

The architecture of AWS Lambda

It's a microservice. Running inside EC2 with Amazon Linux AMI (Version 3.14.26–24.46.amzn1.x86_64) and runs with Node.js. The memory can be beetwen 128mb and 1gb. When the data source triggers the event, the details are passed to a Lambda function as parameter's.

What happen?

AWS Lambda run's inside a container, and the code is directly uploaded to this container with packages or modules. For example, we NEVER can do SSH for the linux machine running your lambda function. The only things that we can monitor are the logs, with CloudWatchLogs and the exception that came from the runtime.

AWS take care of launch and terminate the containers for us, and just run the code. So, even that you use require('http'), it's not going to work, because the place where this code runs, wasn't made for this.

I have a general way to solve this type of problems, which could be helpful too, especially when cloning repositories to run them locally, but requires a little more analysis of the versions.

With the package npm-check-updates I verify the versions of the packages (according to the package.json file) that are not declared in their latest available versions, as shown in the figure (https://www.npmjs.com/package/npm-check-updates):

With this information we can verify the update status of the different packages and make decisions as to which packages to upgrade / degrade and which ones do not.

Assuming that we decided to update all the packages as they are listed, we can use the ncu -u command which only modifies your package.json file. Run npm install to update your installed packages and package-lock.json.

Then, depending on the requirements of the repository, we can refine what is needed, installing the specific versions with npm view <package> versions and npm install <package>@<version>

I wrote this procedure inspired by Cherian's answer. The difference is that in my version the user name is an argument of the procedure ( and not hard coded ) . I'm also doing a much necessary FLUSH PRIVILEGES after dropping the user.

You can set up on the constructor too, the test class is a class after all. I'm not sure if it's a bad practice because almost all other methods are annotated, but it works. You could create a constructor like that:

I can confirm that mp4 just will not work in the video tag. No matter how much you try to mess with the type tag and the codec and the mime types from the server.

Crazy, because for the same exact video, on the same test page, the old embed tag for an mp4 works just fine in firefox. I spent all yesterday messing with this. Firefox is like IE all of a sudden, hours and hours of time, not billable. Yay.

Speaking of IE, it fails FAR MORE gracefully on this. When it can't match up the format it falls to the content between the tags, so it is possible to just put video around object around embed and everything works great. Firefox, nope, despite failing, it puts up the poster image (greyed out so that isn't even useful as a fallback) with an error message smack in the middle. So now the options are put in browser recognition code (meaning we've gained nothing on embedding videos in the last ten years) or ditch html5.

The gdi32 library is already installed on your computer, few programs will run without it. Your compiler will (if installed properly) normally come with an import library, which is what the linker uses to make a binding between your program and the file in the system. (In the unlikely case that your compiler does not come with import libraries for the system libs, you will need to download the Microsoft Windows Platform SDK.)

To link with gdi32:

This will reliably work with MinGW-gcc for all system libraries (it should work if you use any other compiler too, but I can't talk about things I've not tried). You can also write the library's full name, but writing libgdi32.a has no advantage over gdi32 other than being more type work.
If it does not work for some reason, you may have to provide a different name (for example the library is named gdi32.lib for MSVC).

For libraries in some odd locations or project subfolders, you will need to provide a proper pathname (click on the "..." button for a file select dialog).

In my case, it was Subversion, TortoiseSVN clinging to those files, so I just clicked on SVN in the Eclipse menu and then disconnect. Worked for me.

Thought I would mention this because it took a while for me to fix this issue and I couldn't find the answer anywhere on SO. The code I was working on worked for a co-worker but not for me (I was getting this same error). It worked for me in Chrome, but not in Edge.

I was able to get it working by clearing the cache in Edge.

This may not be the answer to this specific question, but I thought I would mention it in case it saves someone else a little time.

curl sends POST requests with the default content type of application/x-www-form-urlencoded. If you want to send a JSON request, you will have to specify the correct content type header:

Seems someone have done it by patching the kernel. I just came across a paper titled "Exploiting Smart-Phone USB Connectivity For Fun And Profit" by Angelos Stavrou, Zhaohui Wang, Computer Science Department George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. (available freely by googling the above title). Here the two researchers are investigating the possibility of a compromised android device controlling the attached PC by having the android device presenting itself as an HID device (keyboard). As a proof of concept, it seems that they have successfully patched a kernel doing exactly what you want. They didn't provide detailed steps but anyway I just quote what they said they've done:

.....we developed a special USB gadget driver in addition to existing USB composite interface on the Android Linux kernel using the USB Gadget API for Linux[4]. The UGAL framework helped us implement a simple USB Human Interface Driver (HID) functionality (i.e. device driver) and the glue code between the various kernel APIs. Using the code provided in: “drivers/usb/gadget/composite.c”, we created our own gadget driver as an additional composite USB interface. This driver simulates a USB keyboard device. We can also simulate a USB mouse device sending pre-programmed input command to the desktop system. Therefore, it is straightforward to pose as a normal USB mouse or keyboard device and send predefined command stealthily to simulate malicious interactive user activities. To verify this functionality, in our controlled experiments, we send keycode sequences to perform non-fatal operations and show how such a manipulated device can cause damages In particular, we simulated a Dell USB keyboard (vendorID=413C, productID=2105) sending ”CTRL+ESC” key combination and ”U” and ”Enter” key sequence to reboot the machine. Notice that this only requires USB connection and can gain the ”current user” privilege on the desktop system. With the additional local or remote exploit sent as payload, the malware can escalate the privilege and gain full access of the desktop system.

You need to validate at Person level, not on Senior level, or Senior must have a reference to its parent Person. It seems to me that you need a self validation mechanism that defines the validation on the Person and not on one of its properties. I'm not sure, but I don't think DataAnnotations supports this out of the box. What you can do create your own Attribute that derives from ValidationAttribute that can be decorated on class level and next create a custom validator that also allows those class-level validators to run.

I know Validation Application Block supports self-validation out-of the box, but VAB has a pretty steep learning curve. Nevertheless, here's an example using VAB:

The problem disappeared when - while an ios simulation(react-native run-ios) was running - I ran npm install and then react-native run-ios again. In the terminal window, it showed that it was bundling, and then the simulator showed the welcome screen.

My port 8081 was blocked by McAfee. Using a different port directly wasn't working react-native start --port=8082 and react-native run-ios --port=8082

Step 2: Copy paste the .jar file to the libs folder (create if does not exist already) in your module (can be app or library)

Step 3: Right click on the jar and "Add as Library". It will automatically add the jar file as a dependency in your module's gradle file

Step 4: Now automatically your problem will get resolved but in case you are using proguard in your app, it will give you warning about duplicate class files and won't let you build. It is a known bug and you need to add following to your proguard-rules

Try deleting your ASO files.

ASO files are cached compiled versions of your class files. Although the IDE is a lot better at letting go of old caches when changes are made, sometimes you have to manually delete them. To delete ASO files: Control>Delete ASO Files.

The error states that the psql utility can't find the socket to connect to your database server. Either you don't have the database service running in the background, or the socket is located elsewhere, or perhaps the pg_hba.conf needs to be fixed.

Step 1: Verify that the database is running

The command may vary depending on your operating system. But on most *ix systems the following would work, it will search for postgres among all running processes

ps -ef | grep postgres

On my system, mac osx, this spits out

The last column shows the command used to start the server, and the options.

Step 2: If the postgres service is running

Use find to search for the location of the socket, which should be somewhere in the /tmp

If postgres is running and accepting socket connections, the above should tell you the location of the socket. On my machine, it turned out to be:

/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432

Then, try connecting via psql using this file's location explicitly, eg.

Step 3: If the service is running but you don't see a socket

If you can't find the socket, but see that the service is running, Verify that the pg_hba.conf file allows local sockets.

Browse to the datadir and you should find the pg_hba.conf file.

By default, near the bottom of the file you should see the following lines:

If you don't see it, you can modify the file, and restart the postgres service.

Let me show you how this pays off. Normally I place ; on every line of javascript i write. I know it's more expressive. I know it's more clear. I have followed my rules. One day i decided not to. The .parents() and .closest() methods are similar in that they both traverse up the DOM tree. The differences between the two, though subtle, are significant:

.closest()

• Begins with the current element
• Travels up the DOM tree until it finds a match for the supplied selector

.parents()

• Begins with the parent element
• Travels up the DOM tree to the document's root element, adding each ancestor element to a temporary collection; it then filters that collection based on a selector if one is supplied

When I see things like #search-item .search-article, #search-item .search-article, and #search-item .search-article I sense you are overspecifying your CSS which makes writing concise jQuery very difficult. This should be avoided if at all possible.

You can also use a for loop and tr to extract the filename from the path...

The tr replaces all "/" delimiters in path with spaces so making a list of strings, and the for loop scans through them leaving the last one in the filename variable.

Linked lists provide very fast insertion or deletion of a list member. Each member in a linked list contains a pointer to the next member in the list so to insert a member at position i:

• update the pointer in member i-1 to point to the new member
• set the pointer in the new member to point to member i

The disadvantage to a linked list is that random access is not possible. Accessing a member requires traversing the list until the desired member is found.

The following expresses the experience I had with hibernate 4.0.0.Final.

The javadoc (distributed under LGPL license) of org.hibernate.cfg.Configuration class states that:

After looking at issue 2578, i used something like this:

For it to start reading configuration, i had to modify my hibernate 3.2.6 configuration and mapping files to use xmlns="http://www.hibernate.org/xsd/hibernate-configuration" and xmlns="http://www.hibernate.org/xsd/hibernate-mapping" and also remove the dtd specifications.

I couldn't find a way for it to inspect mappings defined in hibernate.cfg.xml and hibernate. prefix for hibernate-related properties in hibernate.cfg.xml is no longer optional.

This might work for some.

I, for one, ran into some error because mapping files contained <cache usage="read-write" /> and ended up using deprecated Configuration way:

One of the good things about handle.exe is that you can run it as a subprocess and parse the output.

We do this in our deployment script - works like a charm.

You were on the right track with your "ng-keydown" attribute on the input, but you missed a simple step. Just because you put the ng-keydown attribute there, doesn't mean angular knows what to do with it. That's where "directives" come into play. You used the attribute correctly, but you now need to write a directive that will tell angular what to do when it sees that attribute on an html element.

The following is an example of how you would do that. We'll rename the directive from ng-keydown to on-keydown (to avoid breaking the "best practice" found here):

The directive simple tells angular that when it sees an HTML attribute called "ng-keydown", it should listen to the element that has that attribute and call whatever function is passed to it. In the html you would have the following:

And then in your controller (just like you already had), you would add a function to your controller's scope that is called "onKeydown", like so:

There are a few different ways to accomplish this, I'll outline my favourites.

Use a ToggleButton and apply a custom style to it. I suggest this because your required control is "like a toggle button" but just looks different from the default toggle button styling.

My preferred method is to define a graphic for the button in css:

Some advantages of doing this are:

1. You get the default toggle button behavior and don't have to re-implement it yourself by adding your own focus styling, mouse and key handlers etc.
2. If your app gets ported to different platform such as a mobile device, it will work out of the box responding to touch events rather than mouse events, etc.
3. Your styling is separated from your application logic so it is easier to restyle your application.

An alternate is to not use css and still use a ToggleButton, but set the image graphic in code:

The code based approach has the advantage that you don't have to use css if you are unfamilar with it.

For best performance and ease of porting to unsigned applet and webstart sandboxes, bundle the images with your app and reference them by relative path urls rather than downloading them off the net.

@UniqueConstraint allows you to name the constraint, while @Column(unique = true) generates a random name (e.g. UK_3u5h7y36qqa13y3mauc5xxayq).

Sometimes it can be helpful to know what table a constraint is associated with. E.g.:

Try using "/" instead of "\" for the path to your image. Some comments here seem to come from people that do not understand some of us are simply learning web development which in many cases is best done locally. So instead of using src=C:\Pics\H.gif use src="C:/Pics/H.gif" for an absolute path or just src="Pics/H.gif" for a relative path if your Pics are in a sub-directory of your html page's location). Note also, it is good practice to surround your path with quotes. otherwise you will have problems with paths that include spaces and other odd characters.

The Most Reliable way to replay har file is using a free tool like Fiddler, the tool is always free and can be downloaded quickly. The sites for the opening har file are all buggy and cannot open large files. Fiddler is available for all platforms.

If you are not coding a web application, make sure your class in which @Autowiring is done is a spring bean. Typically, spring container won't be aware of the class which we might think of as a spring bean. We have to tell the Spring container about our spring classes.

Below is a very simple VB.NET program that will do what you want.

It will set the buffer to 100 chars wide by 1000 chars high. It then sets the width of the window to match the buffer size.

This is only a sample...you should add code to handle command line parameters and error handling.

Another option is an interesting open source project called ScriptCS. It uses some crafty techniques to allow you a development experience outside of Visual Studio while still being able to leverage NuGet to manage your dependencies. It's free, very easy to install using Chocolatey. You can check it out here http://scriptcs.net.

Another cool feature it has is the REPL from the command line. Which allows you to do stuff like this:

In the other answers, only the list approach results in O(1) appends, but it results in a deeply nested list structure, and not a plain single list. I have used the below datastructures, they supports O(1) (amortized) appends, and allow the result to be converted back to a plain list.

I have added linkedList and expandingList and an inlined version of both. The inlinedLinkedList is basically a copy of list_, but it also converts the nested structure back into a plain list. Beyond that the difference between the inlined and non-inlined versions is due to the overhead of the function calls.

All variants of expandingList and linkedList show O(1) append performance, with the benchmark time scaling linearly with the number of items appended. linkedList is slower than expandingList, and the function call overhead is also visible. So if you really need all the speed you can get (and want to stick to R code), use an inlined version of expandingList.

I've also had a look at the C implementation of R, and both approaches should be O(1) append for any size up until you run out of memory.

I have also changed env_as_container_, the original version would store every item under index "i", overwriting the previously appended item. The better_env_as_container I have added is very similar to env_as_container_ but without the deparse stuff. Both exhibit O(1) performance, but they have an overhead that is quite a bit larger than the linked/expanding lists.

Memory overhead

In the C R implementation there is an overhead of 4 words and 2 ints per allocated object. The linkedList approach allocates one list of length two per append, for a total of (4*8+4+4+2*8=) 56 bytes per appended item on 64-bit computers (excluding memory allocation overhead, so probably closer to 64 bytes). The expandingList approach uses one word per appended item, plus a copy when doubling the vector length, so a total memory usage of up to 16 bytes per item. Since the memory is all in one or two objects the per-object overhead is insignificant. I haven't looked deeply into the env memory usage, but I think it will be closer to linkedList.

Just because no-one else has posted this opinion, I would say

avoid else clauses in try/excepts because they're unfamiliar to most people

Unlike the keywords try, except, and finally, the meaning of the else clause isn't self-evident; it's less readable. Because it's not used very often, it'll cause people that read your code to want to double-check the docs to be sure they understand what's going on.

(I'm writing this answer precisely because I found a try/except/else in my codebase and it caused a wtf moment and forced me to do some googling).

So, wherever I see code like the OP example:

In your image, the paper is white, while the background is colored. So, it's better to detect the paper is Saturation(???) channel in HSV color space. Take refer to wiki HSL_and_HSV first. Then I'll copy most idea from my answer in this Detect Colored Segment in an image.

Main steps:

1. Read into BGR
2. Convert the image from bgr to hsv space
3. Threshold the S channel
4. Then find the max external contour(or do Canny, or HoughLines as you like, I choose findContours), approx to get the corners.

The difference between a non-lateral and a lateral join lies in whether you can look to the left hand table's row. For example:

This "outward looking" means that the subquery has to be evaluated more than once. After all, t1.col1 can assume many values.

By contrast, the subquery after a non-lateral join can be evaluated once:

As is required without lateral, the inner query does not depend in any way on the outer query. A lateral query is an example of a correlated query, because of its relation with rows outside the query itself.

You cannot assign to a list like lst[i] = something, unless the list already is initialized with at least i+1 elements. You need to use append to add elements to the end of the list. lst.append(something).

(You could use the assignment notation if you were using a dictionary).

Creating an empty list:

As explained it happens because there is no data in the $cur_votes[0] and hence it throws an error.

To ensure your code works fine, before performing "$votes_up = $cur_votes[0]+1;" echo the $cur_votes[0] value to see if there is any value stored or not.

Surely, there is no value stored.

And I switch around my timezone on my computer and the date stays the same as the yyyy-mm-dd date string I get from the API.

But am I missing something/is this a bad idea ?

Use String#next as the counter.

>> n = "000"
>> 3.times { puts "file_#{n.next!}" }
file_001
file_002
file_003

next is relatively 'clever', meaning you can even go for

>> n = "file_000"
>> 3.times { puts n.next! }
file_001
file_002
file_003
