PLS-00428: an INTO clause is expected in this SELECT statement

In PLSQL block, columns of select statements must be assigned to variables, which is not the case in SQL statements.

The second BEGIN's SQL statement doesn't have INTO clause and that caused the error.

Hyphen, underscore, or camelCase as word delimiter in URIs?

here's the best of both worlds.

I also "like" underscores, besides all your positive points about them, there is also a certain old-school style to them.

So what I do is use underscores and simply add a small rewrite rule to your Apache's .htaccess file to re-write all underscores to hyphens.

Getting "NoSuchMethodError: org.hamcrest.Matcher.describeMismatch" when running test in IntelliJ 10.5

I have a gradle project and when my build.gradle dependencies section looks like this:

dependencies {
    implementation group: 'org.apache.commons', name: 'commons-lang3', version: '3.8.1'

    testImplementation group: 'org.mockito', name: 'mockito-all', version: '1.10.19'
    testImplementation 'junit:junit:4.12'
//    testCompile group: 'org.mockito', name: 'mockito-core', version: '2.23.4'

    compileOnly 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.4'
    apt 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.4'
}

it leads to this exception:

java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.hamcrest.Matcher.describeMismatch(Ljava/lang/Object;Lorg/hamcrest/Description;)V

    at org.hamcrest.MatcherAssert.assertThat(MatcherAssert.java:18)
    at org.hamcrest.MatcherAssert.assertThat(MatcherAssert.java:8)

to fix this issue, I've substituted "mockito-all" with "mockito-core".

dependencies {
    implementation group: 'org.apache.commons', name: 'commons-lang3', version: '3.8.1'

//    testImplementation group: 'org.mockito', name: 'mockito-all', version: '1.10.19'
    testImplementation 'junit:junit:4.12'
    testCompile group: 'org.mockito', name: 'mockito-core', version: '2.23.4'

    compileOnly 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.4'
    apt 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.4'
}

The explanation between mockito-all and mockito-core can be found here: https://solidsoft.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/beyond-the-mockito-refcard-part-3-mockito-core-vs-mockito-all-in-mavengradle-based-projects/

mockito-all.jar besides Mockito itself contains also (as of 1.9.5) two dependencies: Hamcrest and Objenesis (let’s omit repackaged ASM and CGLIB for a moment). The reason was to have everything what is needed inside an one JAR to just put it on a classpath. It can look strange, but please remember than Mockito development started in times when pure Ant (without dependency management) was the most popular build system for Java projects and the all external JARs required by a project (i.e. our project’s dependencies and their dependencies) had to be downloaded manually and specified in a build script.

On the other hand mockito-core.jar is just Mockito classes (also with repackaged ASM and CGLIB). When using it with Maven or Gradle required dependencies (Hamcrest and Objenesis) are managed by those tools (downloaded automatically and put on a test classpath). It allows to override used versions (for example if our projects uses never, but backward compatible version), but what is more important those dependencies are not hidden inside mockito-all.jar what allows to detected possible version incompatibility with dependency analyze tools. This is much better solution when dependency managed tool is used in a project.

open link of google play store in mobile version android

You'll want to use the specified market protocol:

final String appPackageName = "com.example"; // Can also use getPackageName(), as below
startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("market://details?id=" + appPackageName)));

Keep in mind, this will crash on any device that does not have the Market installed (the emulator, for example). Hence, I would suggest something like:

final String appPackageName = getPackageName(); // getPackageName() from Context or Activity object
try {
    startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("market://details?id=" + appPackageName)));
} catch (android.content.ActivityNotFoundException anfe) {
    startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=" + appPackageName)));
}

While using getPackageName() from Context or subclass thereof for consistency (thanks @cprcrack!). You can find more on Market Intents here: link.

Insert/Update/Delete with function in SQL Server

Just another alternative using sp_executesql (tested only in SQL 2016). As previous posts noticed, atomicity must be handled elsewhere.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[fn_get_service_version_checksum2]
(
    @ServiceId INT
)
RETURNS INT
AS

DECLARE @Checksum INT;
SELECT @Checksum = dbo.fn_get_service_version(@ServiceId);

-- Check whether the current version already exists and that it's the latest version.
IF EXISTS(SELECT TOP 1 1 FROM [ServiceVersion] WHERE ServiceId = @ServiceId AND [Checksum] = @Checksum AND ServiceVersion = @LatestVersion)
    RETURN @LatestVersion;
-- Insert the new version to the table.
EXEC sp_executesql N'
INSERT INTO [ServiceVersion] (ServiceId, ServiceVersion, [Checksum], [Timestamp])
VALUES (@ServiceId, @LatestVersion + 1, @Checksum, GETUTCDATE());',
N'@ServiceId INT = NULL, @LatestVersion INT = NULL, @Checksum INT = NULL',
@ServiceId = @ServiceId,
@LatestVersion = @LatestVersion,
@Checksum = @Checksum

Append lines to a file using a StreamWriter

One more simple way is using the File.AppendText it appends UTF-8 encoded text to an existing file, or to a new file if the specified file does not exist and returns a System.IO.StreamWriter

using (System.IO.StreamWriter sw = System.IO.File.AppendText(logFilePath + "log.txt"))
{
    sw.WriteLine("this is a log");
}

Javascript select onchange='this.form.submit()'

There are a few ways this can be completed.

Elements know which form they belong to, so you don't need to wrap this in jquery, you can just call this.form which returns the form element. Then you can call submit() on a form element to submit it.

  $('select').on('change', function(e){
    this.form.submit()
  });

git pull error :error: remote ref is at but expected

Permanent Fix

git update-ref -d resolved my instance of this error, e.g.

git update-ref -d refs/remotes/origin/user

Note that this doesn't impact remote.

In my case, a subsequent git fetch fetched that branch again, and following git fetches/pulls no longer gave the error "remote ref is at but expected".

If that doesn't work, a temporary fix:

Note also that if you don't care about the branch in question (e.g. you just want to update master, not origin/user), a git pull workaround is to fetch then just merge the particular branch you care about, e.g.

git fetch # may give an error for a particular branch, but other branches will still be successfully fetched
git merge origin/master

How do I get the App version and build number using Swift?

EDIT

Updated for Swift 4.2

let appVersion = Bundle.main.infoDictionary?["CFBundleShortVersionString"] as? String

EDIT

As pointed out by @azdev on the new version of Xcode you will get a compile error for trying my previous solution, to solve this just edit it as suggested to unwrap the bundle dictionary using a !

let nsObject: AnyObject? = Bundle.main.infoDictionary!["CFBundleShortVersionString"]

End Edit

Just use the same logic than in Objective-C but with some small changes

//First get the nsObject by defining as an optional anyObject
let nsObject: AnyObject? = NSBundle.mainBundle().infoDictionary["CFBundleShortVersionString"]

//Then just cast the object as a String, but be careful, you may want to double check for nil
let version = nsObject as! String

I hope this helps you out.

David

Why is it string.join(list) instead of list.join(string)?

Think of it as the natural orthogonal operation to split.

I understand why it is applicable to anything iterable and so can't easily be implemented just on list.

For readability, I'd like to see it in the language but I don't think that is actually feasible - if iterability were an interface then it could be added to the interface but it is just a convention and so there's no central way to add it to the set of things which are iterable.

How to load a tsv file into a Pandas DataFrame?

Pointers in C: when to use the ampersand and the asterisk?

Actually, you have it down pat, there's nothing more you need to know :-)

I would just add the following bits:

  • the two operations are opposite ends of the spectrum. & takes a variable and gives you the address, * takes an address and gives you the variable (or contents).
  • arrays "degrade" to pointers when you pass them to functions.
  • you can actually have multiple levels on indirection (char **p means that p is a pointer to a pointer to a char.

As to things working differently, not really:

  • arrays, as already mentioned, degrade to pointers (to the first element in the array) when passed to functions; they don't preserve size information.
  • there are no strings in C, just character arrays that, by convention, represent a string of characters terminated by a zero (\0) character.
  • When you pass the address of a variable to a function, you can de-reference the pointer to change the variable itself (normally variables are passed by value (except for arrays)).

CSS text-align: center; is not centering things

I assume you want all the items next to each other, and the whole thing to be centered horizontally.

li elements are display: block by default, taking up all the horizontal space.

Add

div#footer ul li { display: inline }

once you've done that, you probably want to get rid of the list's bullets:

div#footer ul { list-style-type: none; padding: 0px; margin: 0px }

Phone: numeric keyboard for text input

I think type="number" is the best for semantic web page. If you just want to change the keyboard, you can use type="number" or type="tel". In both cases, iPhone doesn't restrict user input. User can still type in (or paste in) any characters he/she wants. The only change is the keyboard shown to the user. If you want any restriction beyond this, you need to use JavaScript.

How to store a dataframe using Pandas

The easiest way is to pickle it using to_pickle:

df.to_pickle(file_name) # where to save it, usually as a .pkl

Then you can load it back using:

df = pd.read_pickle(file_name)

Note: before 0.11.1 save and load were the only way to do this (they are now deprecated in favor of to_pickle and read_pickle respectively).

Another popular choice is to use HDF5 (pytables) which offers very fast access times for large datasets:

import pandas as pd
store = pd.HDFStore('store.h5')

store['df'] = df  # save it
store['df']  # load it

More advanced strategies are discussed in the cookbook.

Since 0.13 there's also msgpack which may be be better for interoperability, as a faster alternative to JSON, or if you have python object/text-heavy data (see this question).

How can I start PostgreSQL server on Mac OS X?

If you have installed using Homebrew, the below command should be enough.

rm /usr/local/var/postgres/postmaster.pid

pg_ctl -D /usr/local/var/postgres start

Unable to establish SSL connection, how do I fix my SSL cert?

There are a few possibilities:

  1. Your workstation doesn't have the root CA cert used to sign your server's cert. How exactly you fix that depends on what OS you're running and what release, etc. (I suspect this is not related)
  2. Your cert isn't installed properly. If your SSL cert requires an intermediate cert to be presented and you didn't set that up, you can get these warnings.
  3. Are you sure you've enabled SSL on port 443?

For starters, to eliminate (3), what happens if you telnet to that port?

Assuming it's not (3), then depending on your needs you may be fine with ignoring these errors and just passing --no-certificate-check. You probably want to use a regular browser (which generally will bundle the root certs directly) and see if things are happy.

If you want to manually verify the cert, post more details from the openssl s_client output. Or use openssl x509 -text -in /path/to/cert to print it out to your terminal.

Java8: HashMap<X, Y> to HashMap<X, Z> using Stream / Map-Reduce / Collector

Here are some variations on Sotirios Delimanolis' answer, which was pretty good to begin with (+1). Consider the following:

static <X, Y, Z> Map<X, Z> transform(Map<? extends X, ? extends Y> input,
                                     Function<Y, Z> function) {
    return input.keySet().stream()
        .collect(Collectors.toMap(Function.identity(),
                                  key -> function.apply(input.get(key))));
}

A couple points here. First is the use of wildcards in the generics; this makes the function somewhat more flexible. A wildcard would be necessary if, for example, you wanted the output map to have a key that's a superclass of the input map's key:

Map<String, String> input = new HashMap<String, String>();
input.put("string1", "42");
input.put("string2", "41");
Map<CharSequence, Integer> output = transform(input, Integer::parseInt);

(There is also an example for the map's values, but it's really contrived, and I admit that having the bounded wildcard for Y only helps in edge cases.)

A second point is that instead of running the stream over the input map's entrySet, I ran it over the keySet. This makes the code a little cleaner, I think, at the cost of having to fetch values out of the map instead of from the map entry. Incidentally, I initially had key -> key as the first argument to toMap() and this failed with a type inference error for some reason. Changing it to (X key) -> key worked, as did Function.identity().

Still another variation is as follows:

static <X, Y, Z> Map<X, Z> transform1(Map<? extends X, ? extends Y> input,
                                      Function<Y, Z> function) {
    Map<X, Z> result = new HashMap<>();
    input.forEach((k, v) -> result.put(k, function.apply(v)));
    return result;
}

This uses Map.forEach() instead of streams. This is even simpler, I think, because it dispenses with the collectors, which are somewhat clumsy to use with maps. The reason is that Map.forEach() gives the key and value as separate parameters, whereas the stream has only one value -- and you have to choose whether to use the key or the map entry as that value. On the minus side, this lacks the rich, streamy goodness of the other approaches. :-)

What is the meaning of single and double underscore before an object name?

Excellent answers so far but some tidbits are missing. A single leading underscore isn't exactly just a convention: if you use from foobar import *, and module foobar does not define an __all__ list, the names imported from the module do not include those with a leading underscore. Let's say it's mostly a convention, since this case is a pretty obscure corner;-).

The leading-underscore convention is widely used not just for private names, but also for what C++ would call protected ones -- for example, names of methods that are fully intended to be overridden by subclasses (even ones that have to be overridden since in the base class they raise NotImplementedError!-) are often single-leading-underscore names to indicate to code using instances of that class (or subclasses) that said methods are not meant to be called directly.

For example, to make a thread-safe queue with a different queueing discipline than FIFO, one imports Queue, subclasses Queue.Queue, and overrides such methods as _get and _put; "client code" never calls those ("hook") methods, but rather the ("organizing") public methods such as put and get (this is known as the Template Method design pattern -- see e.g. here for an interesting presentation based on a video of a talk of mine on the subject, with the addition of synopses of the transcript).

Edit: The video links in the description of the talks are now broken. You can find the first two videos here and here.

jQuery Event : Detect changes to the html/text of a div

DOMSubtreeModified is not a good solution. It's can cause infinite loops if you decide to change the DOM inside the event handler, hence it has been disabled in a number of browsers. MutationObserver will be the answer.

MDN Doc

const onChangeElement = (qSelector, cb)=>{
 const targetNode = document.querySelector(qSelector);
 if(targetNode){
    const config = { attributes: true, childList: false, subtree: false };
    const callback = function(mutationsList, observer) {
        cb($(qSelector))
    };
    const observer = new MutationObserver(callback);
    observer.observe(targetNode, config);
 }else {
    console.error("onChangeElement: Invalid Selector")
 }
}

And you can use it,

onChangeElement('mydiv', function(jqueryElement){
   alert('changed')
})

Hide "NFC Tag type not supported" error on Samsung Galaxy devices

Before Android 4.4

What you are trying to do is simply not possible from an app (at least not on a non-rooted/non-modified device). The message "NFC tag type not supported" is displayed by the Android system (or more specifically the NFC system service) before and instead of dispatching the tag to your app. This means that the NFC system service filters MIFARE Classic tags and never notifies any app about them. Consequently, your app can't detect MIFARE Classic tags or circumvent that popup message.

On a rooted device, you may be able to bypass the message using either

  1. Xposed to modify the behavior of the NFC service, or
  2. the CSC (Consumer Software Customization) feature configuration files on the system partition (see /system/csc/. The NFC system service disables the popup and dispatches MIFARE Classic tags to apps if the CSC feature <CscFeature_NFC_EnableSecurityPromptPopup> is set to any value but "mifareclassic" or "all". For instance, you could use:

    <CscFeature_NFC_EnableSecurityPromptPopup>NONE</CscFeature_NFC_EnableSecurityPromptPopup>

    You could add this entry to, for instance, the file "/system/csc/others.xml" (within the section <FeatureSet> ... </FeatureSet> that already exists in that file).

Since, you asked for the Galaxy S6 (the question that you linked) as well: I have tested this method on the S4 when it came out. I have not verified if this still works in the latest firmware or on other devices (e.g. the S6).

Since Android 4.4

This is pure guessing, but according to this (link no longer available), it seems that some apps (e.g. NXP TagInfo) are capable of detecting MIFARE Classic tags on affected Samsung devices since Android 4.4. This might mean that foreground apps are capable of bypassing that popup using the reader-mode API (see NfcAdapter.enableReaderMode) possibly in combination with NfcAdapter.FLAG_READER_SKIP_NDEF_CHECK.

c++ array assignment of multiple values

There is a difference between initialization and assignment. What you want to do is not initialization, but assignment. But such assignment to array is not possible in C++.

Here is what you can do:

#include <algorithm>

int array [] = {1,3,34,5,6};
int newarr [] = {34,2,4,5,6};
std::copy(newarr, newarr + 5, array);

However, in C++0x, you can do this:

std::vector<int> array = {1,3,34,5,6};
array = {34,2,4,5,6};

Of course, if you choose to use std::vector instead of raw array.

                                                                asString:@[@"button1", @"button2", @"button3"]
                                                               alignAxis:@"V"
                                                          verticalMargin:100
                                                        horizontalMargin:50
                                                             innerMargin:25]];

will cause that vertical distribution (sorry don't have the 10 reputation to embed images). And if you change the axis and some margin values :

alignAxis:@"H"
verticalMargin:120
horizontalMargin:20
innerMargin:10

You'll get that horizontal distribution.

I'm newbie in iOS but voilà !

In Angular, What is 'pathmatch: full' and what effect does it have?

The path-matching strategy, one of 'prefix' or 'full'. Default is 'prefix'.

By default, the router checks URL elements from the left to see if the URL matches a given path, and stops when there is a match. For example, '/team/11/user' matches 'team/:id'.

The path-match strategy 'full' matches against the entire URL. It is important to do this when redirecting empty-path routes. Otherwise, because an empty path is a prefix of any URL, the router would apply the redirect even when navigating to the redirect destination, creating an endless loop.

HTML table headers always visible at top of window when viewing a large table

This is really a tricky thing to have a sticky header on your table. I had same requirement but with asp:GridView and then I found it really thought to have sticky header on gridview. There are many solutions available and it took me 3 days trying all the solution but none of them could satisfy.

The main issue that I faced with most of these solutions was the alignment problem. When you try to make the header floating, somehow the alignment of header cells and body cells get off track.

With some solutions, I also got issue of getting header overlapped to first few rows of body, which cause body rows getting hidden behind the floating header.

So now I had to implement my own logic to achieve this, though I also not consider this as perfect solution but this could also be helpful for someone,

Below is the sample table.

<div class="table-holder">
        <table id="MyTable" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" border="1px" class="customerTable">
            <thead>
                <tr><th>ID</th><th>First Name</th><th>Last Name</th><th>DOB</th><th>Place</th></tr>
            </thead>
            <tbody>
                <tr><td>1</td><td>Customer1</td><td>LastName</td><td>1-1-1</td><td>SUN</td></tr>
                <tr><td>2</td><td>Customer2</td><td>LastName</td><td>2-2-2</td><td>Earth</td></tr>
                <tr><td>3</td><td>Customer3</td><td>LastName</td><td>3-3-3</td><td>Mars</td></tr>
                <tr><td>4</td><td>Customer4</td><td>LastName</td><td>4-4-4</td><td>Venus</td></tr>
                <tr><td>5</td><td>Customer5</td><td>LastName</td><td>5-5-5</td><td>Saturn</td></tr>
                <tr><td>6</td><td>Customer6</td><td>LastName</td><td>6-6-6</td><td>Jupitor</td></tr>
                <tr><td>7</td><td>Customer7</td><td>LastName</td><td>7-7-7</td><td>Mercury</td></tr>
                <tr><td>8</td><td>Customer8</td><td>LastName</td><td>8-8-8</td><td>Moon</td></tr>
                <tr><td>9</td><td>Customer9</td><td>LastName</td><td>9-9-9</td><td>Uranus</td></tr>
                <tr><td>10</td><td>Customer10</td><td>LastName</td><td>10-10-10</td><td>Neptune</td></tr>
            </tbody>
        </table>
    </div>

Note: The table is wrapped into a DIV with class attribute equal to 'table-holder'.

Below is the JQuery script that I added in my html page header.

<script src="../Scripts/jquery-1.7.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="../Scripts/jquery-ui.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function () {
        //create var for table holder
        var originalTableHolder = $(".table-holder");
        // set the table holder's with
        originalTableHolder.width($('table', originalTableHolder).width() + 17);
        // Create a clone of table holder DIV
        var clonedtableHolder = originalTableHolder.clone();

        // Calculate height of all header rows.
        var headerHeight = 0;
        $('thead', originalTableHolder).each(function (index, element) {
            headerHeight = headerHeight + $(element).height();
        });

        // Set the position of cloned table so that cloned table overlapped the original
        clonedtableHolder.css('position', 'relative');
        clonedtableHolder.css('top', headerHeight + 'px');

        // Set the height of cloned header equal to header height only so that body is not visible of cloned header
        clonedtableHolder.height(headerHeight);
        clonedtableHolder.css('overflow', 'hidden');

        // reset the ID attribute of each element in cloned table
        $('*', clonedtableHolder).each(function (index, element) {
            if ($(element).attr('id')) {
                $(element).attr('id', $(element).attr('id') + '_Cloned');
            }
        });

        originalTableHolder.css('border-bottom', '1px solid #aaa');

        // Place the cloned table holder before original one
        originalTableHolder.before(clonedtableHolder);
    });
</script>

and at last below is the CSS class for bit of coloring purpose.

.table-holder
{
    height:200px;
    overflow:auto;
    border-width:0px;
}

.customerTable thead
{
    background: #4b6c9e;
    color:White;
}

So the whole idea of this logic is to place the table into a table holder div and create clone of that holder at client side when page loaded. Now hide the body of table inside clone holder and position the remaining header part over to original header.

Same solution also works for asp:gridview, you need to add two more steps to achieve this in gridview,

  1. In OnPrerender event of gridview object in your web page, set the table section of header row equal to TableHeader.

    if (this.HeaderRow != null)
    {
        this.HeaderRow.TableSection = TableRowSection.TableHeader;
    }

  2. And wrap your grid into <div class="table-holder"></div>.

Note: if your header has clickable controls then you may need to add some more jQuery script to pass the events raised in cloned header to original header. This code is already available in jQuery sticky-header plugin create by jmosbech

How to embed a YouTube channel into a webpage

In order to embed your channel, all you need to do is copy then paste the following code in another web-page.

<script src="http://www.gmodules.com/ig/ifr?url=http://www.google.com/ig/modules/youtube.xml&up_channel=YourChannelName&synd=open&w=320&h=390&title=&border=%23ffffff%7C3px%2C1px+solid+%23999999&output=js"></script>

Make sure to replace the YourChannelName with your actual channel name.

For example: if your channel name were CaliChick94066 your channel embed code would be:

<script src="http://www.gmodules.com/ig/ifr?url=http://www.google.com/ig/modules/youtube.xml&up_channel=CaliChick94066&synd=open&w=320&h=390&title=&border=%23ffffff%7C3px%2C1px+solid+%23999999&output=js"></script>

Please look at the following links:

YouTube on your site

Embed YouTube Channel

You just have to name the URL to your channel name. Also you can play with the height and the border color and size. Hope it helps

Find all CSV files in a directory using Python

Many (linked) answers change working directory with os.chdir(). But you don't have to.

Recursively print all CSV files in /home/project/ directory:

pathname = "/home/project/**/*.csv"

for file in glob.iglob(pathname, recursive=True):
    print(file)

Requires python 3.5+. From docs [1]:

  • pathname can be either absolute (like /usr/src/Python-1.5/Makefile) or relative (like ../../Tools/*/*.gif)
  • pathname can contain shell-style wildcards.
  • Whether or not the results are sorted depends on the file system.
  • If recursive is true, the pattern ** will match any files and zero or more directories, subdirectories and symbolic links to directories

[1] https://docs.python.org/3/library/glob.html#glob.glob

Wildcards in a Windows hosts file

While you can't add a wildcard like that, you could add the full list of sites that you need, at least for testing, that works well enough for me, in your hosts file, you just add:

127.0.0.1 site1.local
127.0.0.1 site2.local
127.0.0.1 site3.local
...

How to find the path of the local git repository when I am possibly in a subdirectory

git rev-parse --show-toplevel

could be enough if executed within a git repo.
From git rev-parse man page:

--show-toplevel

Show the absolute path of the top-level directory.

For older versions (before 1.7.x), the other options are listed in "Is there a way to get the git root directory in one command?":

git rev-parse --git-dir

That would give the path of the .git directory.

The OP mentions:

git rev-parse --show-prefix

which returns the local path under the git repo root. (empty if you are at the git repo root)

Note: for simply checking if one is in a git repo, I find the following command quite expressive:

git rev-parse --is-inside-work-tree

And yes, if you need to check if you are in a .git git-dir folder:

git rev-parse --is-inside-git-dir

moment.js - UTC gives wrong date

By default, MomentJS parses in local time. If only a date string (with no time) is provided, the time defaults to midnight.

In your code, you create a local date and then convert it to the UTC timezone (in fact, it makes the moment instance switch to UTC mode), so when it is formatted, it is shifted (depending on your local time) forward or backwards.

If the local timezone is UTC+N (N being a positive number), and you parse a date-only string, you will get the previous date.

Here are some examples to illustrate it (my local time offset is UTC+3 during DST):

>>> moment('07-18-2013', 'MM-DD-YYYY').utc().format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm")
"2013-07-17 21:00"
>>> moment('07-18-2013 12:00', 'MM-DD-YYYY HH:mm').utc().format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm")
"2013-07-18 09:00"
>>> Date()
"Thu Jul 25 2013 14:28:45 GMT+0300 (Jerusalem Daylight Time)"

If you want the date-time string interpreted as UTC, you should be explicit about it:

>>> moment(new Date('07-18-2013 UTC')).utc().format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm")
"2013-07-18 00:00"

or, as Matt Johnson mentions in his answer, you can (and probably should) parse it as a UTC date in the first place using moment.utc() and include the format string as a second argument to prevent ambiguity.

>>> moment.utc('07-18-2013', 'MM-DD-YYYY').format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm")
"2013-07-18 00:00"

To go the other way around and convert a UTC date to a local date, you can use the local() method, as follows:

>>> moment.utc('07-18-2013', 'MM-DD-YYYY').local().format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm")
"2013-07-18 03:00"

Class Not Found Exception when running JUnit test

I had a similar problem with my tests and found somewhere in the Web, that you have to go to Build Path in your project's properties and move Maven Dependencies above JRE System Library. That seems to have worked for me.

If you are using VIM version 8+, just type Ctrl + n or Ctrl + p.

Convert string to Python class object?

import sys
import types

def str_to_class(field):
    try:
        identifier = getattr(sys.modules[__name__], field)
    except AttributeError:
        raise NameError("%s doesn't exist." % field)
    if isinstance(identifier, (types.ClassType, types.TypeType)):
        return identifier
    raise TypeError("%s is not a class." % field)

This accurately handles both old-style and new-style classes.

How to select between brackets (or quotes or ...) in Vim?

Use arrows or hjkl to get to one of the bracketing expressions, then v to select visual (i.e. selecting) mode, then % to jump to the other bracket.

Get element type with jQuery

As Distdev alluded to, you still need to differentiate the input type. That is to say,

$(this).prev().prop('tagName');

will tell you input, but that doesn't differentiate between checkbox/text/radio. If it's an input, you can then use

$('#elementId').attr('type');

to tell you checkbox/text/radio, so you know what kind of control it is.

Check if all checkboxes are selected

I think the easiest way is checking for this condition:

$('.abc:checked').length == $('.abc').length

You could do it every time a new checkbox is checked:

$(".abc").change(function(){
    if ($('.abc:checked').length == $('.abc').length) {
       //do something
    }
});

Java word count program

 public class CountWords
    {
        public static void main (String[] args)
        {
            System.out.println("Simple Java Word Count Program");
            String str1 = "Today is Holdiay Day";
            int wordCount = 1;
            for (int i = 0; i < str1.length(); i++)
            {
                if (str1.charAt(i) == ' ' && str1.charAt(i+1)!=' ')
                {
                    wordCount++;
                }
            }
            System.out.println("Word count is = " + wordCount));
        }
    }

This gives the correct result because if space comes twice or more then it can't increase wordcount. Enjoy.

Disable sorting for a particular column in jQuery DataTables

To update Bhavish's answer (which I think is for an older version of DataTables and didn't work for me). I think they changed the attribute name. Try this:

<thead>
    <tr>
        <td data-sortable="false">Requirements</td>
        <td data-sortable="false">Automated</td>
        <td>Created On</td>
    </tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
    <tr>
        <td>

putting a php variable in a HTML form value

You can do it like this,

<input type="text" name="name" value="<?php echo $name;?>" />

But seen as you've taken it straight from user input, you want to sanitize it first so that nothing nasty is put into the output of your page.

<input type="text" name="name" value="<?php echo htmlspecialchars($name);?>" />

How to use Git for Unity3D source control?

We now have seamless integration to unity with Github to Unity extension... https://unity.github.com/

The new GitHub for Unity extension brings the GitHub workflow and more to Unity, providing support for large files with Git LFS and file locking.

At the time of writing the project is in alpha, but is still usable for personal projects.

What is the difference between document.location.href and document.location?

document.location is an object, while document.location.href is a string. But the former has a toString method, so you can read from it as if it was a string and get the same value as document.location.href.

In some browsers - most modern ones, I think - you can also assign to document.location as if it were a string. According to the Mozilla documentation however, it is better to use window.location for this purpose as document.location was originally read-only and so may not be as widely supported.

Is the order of elements in a JSON list preserved?

Yes, the order of elements in JSON arrays is preserved. From RFC 7159 -The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Data Interchange Format (emphasis mine):

An object is an unordered collection of zero or more name/value pairs, where a name is a string and a value is a string, number, boolean, null, object, or array.

An array is an ordered sequence of zero or more values.

The terms "object" and "array" come from the conventions of JavaScript.

Some implementations do also preserve the order of JSON objects as well, but this is not guaranteed.

ignoring any 'bin' directory on a git project

Before version 1.8.2, ** didn't have any special meaning in the .gitignore. As of 1.8.2 git supports ** to mean zero or more sub-directories (see release notes).

The way to ignore all directories called bin anywhere below the current level in a directory tree is with a .gitignore file with the pattern:

bin/

In the man page, there an example of ignoring a directory called foo using an analogous pattern.

Edit: If you already have any bin folders in your git index which you no longer wish to track then you need to remove them explicitly. Git won't stop tracking paths that are already being tracked just because they now match a new .gitignore pattern. Execute a folder remove (rm) from index only (--cached) recursivelly (-r). Command line example for root bin folder:

git rm -r --cached bin

Proper way to wait for one function to finish before continuing?

An elegant way to wait for one function to complete first is to use Promises with async/await function.

  1. Firstly, create a Promise. The function I created will be completed after 2s. I used setTimeout in order to demonstrate the situation where the instructions would take some time to execute.
  2. For the second function, you can use async/await function where you will await for the first function to complete before proceeding with the instructions.

Example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
    //1. Create a new function that returns a promise
    function firstFunction() {
      return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
          let y = 0
          setTimeout(() => {
            for(i=0; i<10; i++){
               y++
            }
             console.log('loop completed')
             resolve(y)
          }, 2000)
      })
    }

    //2. Create an async function
    async function secondFunction() {
        console.log('before promise call')
        //3. Await for the first function to complete
        let result = await firstFunction()
        console.log('promise resolved: ' + result)
        console.log('next step')
    };

    secondFunction()
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Note:

You could simply resolve the Promise without any value like so resolve(). In my example, I resolved the Promise with the value of y that I can then use in the second function.

Check if argparse optional argument is set or not

If your argument is positional (ie it doesn't have a "-" or a "--" prefix, just the argument, typically a file name) then you can use the nargs parameter to do this:

parser = argparse.ArgumentParser(description='Foo is a program that does things')
parser.add_argument('filename', nargs='?')
args = parser.parse_args()

if args.filename is not None:
    print('The file name is {}'.format(args.filename))
else:
    print('Oh well ; No args, no problems')

How can I simulate an anchor click via jquery?

In Javascript you can do like this

function submitRequest(buttonId) {
    if (document.getElementById(buttonId) == null
            || document.getElementById(buttonId) == undefined) {
        return;
    }
    if (document.getElementById(buttonId).dispatchEvent) {
        var e = document.createEvent("MouseEvents");
        e.initEvent("click", true, true);
        document.getElementById(buttonId).dispatchEvent(e);

Is there any native DLL export functions viewer?

DLL Export Viewer by NirSoft can be used to display exported functions in a DLL.

This utility displays the list of all exported functions and their virtual memory addresses for the specified DLL files. You can easily copy the memory address of the desired function, paste it into your debugger, and set a breakpoint for this memory address. When this function is called, the debugger will stop in the beginning of this function.

How to export JavaScript array info to csv (on client side)?

There are two questions here:

  1. How to convert an array to csv string
  2. How to save that string to a file

All the answers to the first question (except the one by Milimetric) here seem like an overkill. And the one by Milimetric does not cover altrenative requirements, like surrounding strings with quotes or converting arrays of objects.

Here are my takes on this:

For a simple csv one map() and a join() are enough:

    var test_array = [["name1", 2, 3], ["name2", 4, 5], ["name3", 6, 7], ["name4", 8, 9], ["name5", 10, 11]];
    var csv = test_array.map(function(d){
        return d.join();
    }).join('\n');

    /* Results in
    name1,2,3
    name2,4,5
    name3,6,7
    name4,8,9
    name5,10,11

This method also allows you to specify column separator other than a comma in the inner join. for example a tab: d.join('\t')

On the other hand if you want to do it properly and enclose strings in quotes "", then you can use some JSON magic:

var csv = test_array.map(function(d){
       return JSON.stringify(d);
    })
    .join('\n')
    .replace(/(^\[)|(\]$)/mg, ''); // remove opening [ and closing ]
                                   // brackets from each line

/* would produce
"name1",2,3
"name2",4,5
"name3",6,7
"name4",8,9
"name5",10,11

if you have array of objects like :

var data = [
  {"title": "Book title 1", "author": "Name1 Surname1"},
  {"title": "Book title 2", "author": "Name2 Surname2"},
  {"title": "Book title 3", "author": "Name3 Surname3"},
  {"title": "Book title 4", "author": "Name4 Surname4"}
];

// use
var csv = data.map(function(d){
        return JSON.stringify(Object.values(d));
    })
    .join('\n')
    .replace(/(^\[)|(\]$)/mg, '');

How do I uninstall a package installed using npm link?

npm link pain:

-Module name gulp-task

-Project name project-x

You want to link gulp-task:

1: Go to the gulp-task directory then do npm link this will symlink the project to your global modules

2: Go to your project project-x then do npm install make sure to remove the current node_modules directory

Now you want to remove this madness and use the real gulp-task, we have two options:

Option 1: Unlink via npm:

1: Go to your project and do npm unlink gulp-task this will remove the linked installed module

2: Go to the gulp-task directory and do npm unlink to remove symlink. Notice we didn't use the name of the module

3: celebrate

What if this didn't work, verify by locating your global installed module. My are location ls -la /usr/local/lib/node_modules/ if you are using nvm it will be a different path

Option 2: Remove the symlink like a normal linux guru

1: locate your global dependencies cd /usr/local/lib/node_modules/

2: removing symlink is simply using the rm command

rm gulp-task make sure you don't have / at the end

rm gulp-task/ is wrong

rm gulp-task ??

SFTP file transfer using Java JSch

The most trivial way to upload a file over SFTP with JSch is:

JSch jsch = new JSch();
Session session = jsch.getSession(user, host);
session.setPassword(password);
session.connect();

ChannelSftp sftpChannel = (ChannelSftp) session.openChannel("sftp");
sftpChannel.connect();

sftpChannel.put("C:/source/local/path/file.zip", "/target/remote/path/file.zip");

Similarly for a download:

sftpChannel.get("/source/remote/path/file.zip", "C:/target/local/path/file.zip");

You may need to deal with UnknownHostKey exception.

What is the difference between logical data model and conceptual data model?

Conceptual Schema - covers entities and relationships. Should be created first. Contrary to some of the other answers; tables are not defined here. For example a 'many to many' table is not included in a conceptual data model but is defined as a 'many to many' relationship between entities.

Logical Schema - Covers tables, attributes, keys, mandatory role constraints, and referential integrity with no regards to the physical implementation. Things like indexes are not defined, attribute types should be kept logical, e.g. text instead of varchar2. Should be created based on the conceptual schema.

How to pass data in the ajax DELETE request other than headers

deleteRequest: function (url, Id, bolDeleteReq, callback, errorCallback) {
    $.ajax({
        url: urlCall,
        type: 'DELETE',
        data: {"Id": Id, "bolDeleteReq" : bolDeleteReq},
        success: callback || $.noop,
        error: errorCallback || $.noop
    });
}

Note: the use of headers was introduced in JQuery 1.5.:

A map of additional header key/value pairs to send along with the request. This setting is set before the beforeSend function is called; therefore, any values in the headers setting can be overwritten from within the beforeSend function.

How Long Does it Take to Learn Java for a Complete Newbie?

My experience in Java programming for beginner is not difficult to learn; however it is really depended on how your object-oriented programming skills are. As you posed that you had no programming experience , I guess that I recommend a web site, http://www.exampledepot.com/ , and type any java keyword such as Swing, FileInputStream, it provides a lot of practical examples that you can apply into a project.

Please, buy a java book (Sams'java 6 in 24 hours) as reference. It will give you really basic skills for java within a short time. and I sure you will have enough time to learn about the java and J2ME within 10 weeks. Good Luck.

Changing background color of ListView items on Android

By changing a code of Francisco Cabezas, I got the following:

private int selectedRow = -1;

...

@Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
    parent.getChildAt(position).setBackgroundResource(R.color.orange);
    if (selectedRow != -1 && selectedRow != position) {
        parent.getChildAt(selectedRow).setBackgroundResource(R.color.black);

Must JDBC Resultsets and Statements be closed separately although the Connection is closed afterwards?

Java 1.7 makes our lives much easier thanks to the try-with-resources statement.

try (Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection();
    Statement statement = connection.createStatement()) {
    try (ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery("some query")) {
        // Do stuff with the result set.
    }
    try (ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery("some query")) {
        // Do more stuff with the second result set.
    }
}

This syntax is quite brief and elegant. And connection will indeed be closed even when the statement couldn't be created.

'AND' vs '&&' as operator

Let me explain the difference between “and” - “&&” - "&".

"&&" and "and" both are logical AND operations and they do the same thing, but the operator precedence is different.

The precedence (priority) of an operator specifies how "tightly" it binds two expressions together. For example, in the expression 1 + 5 * 3, the answer is 16 and not 18 because the multiplication ("*") operator has a higher precedence than the addition ("+") operator.

Mixing them together in single operation, could give you unexpected results in some cases I recommend always using &&, but that's your choice.

On the other hand "&" is a bitwise AND operation. It's used for the evaluation and manipulation of specific bits within the integer value.

Example if you do (14 & 7) the result would be 6.

7   = 0111
14  = 1110
------------
    = 0110 == 6

Powershell v3 Invoke-WebRequest HTTPS error

I tried searching for documentation on the EM7 OpenSource REST API. No luck so far.

http://blog.sciencelogic.com/sciencelogic-em7-the-next-generation/05/2011

There's a lot of talk about OpenSource REST API, but no link to the actual API or any documentation. Maybe I was impatient.

Here are few things you can try out

$a = Invoke-RestMethod -Uri https://IPADDRESS/resource -Credential $cred -certificate $cert
$a.Results | ConvertFrom-Json

Try this to see if you can filter out the columns that you are getting from the API

$a.Results | ft

or, you can try using this also

$b = Invoke-WebRequest -Uri https://IPADDRESS/resource -Credential $cred -certificate $cert
$b.Content | ConvertFrom-Json

Curl Style Headers

$b.Headers

I tested the IRM / IWR with the twitter JSON api.

$a = Invoke-RestMethod http://search.twitter.com/search.json?q=PowerShell

Hope this helps.

When is each sorting algorithm used?

Quicksort is usually the fastest on average, but It has some pretty nasty worst-case behaviors. So if you have to guarantee no bad data gives you O(N^2), you should avoid it.

Merge-sort uses extra memory, but is particularly suitable for external sorting (i.e. huge files that don't fit into memory).

Heap-sort can sort in-place and doesn't have the worst case quadratic behavior, but on average is slower than quicksort in most cases.

Where only integers in a restricted range are involved, you can use some kind of radix sort to make it very fast.

In 99% of the cases, you'll be fine with the library sorts, which are usually based on quicksort.

Force SSL/https using .htaccess and mod_rewrite

Mod-rewrite based solution :

Using the following code in htaccess automatically forwards all http requests to https.

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTPS}::%{HTTP_HOST} ^off::(?:www\.)?(.+)$
RewriteRule ^ https://www.%1%{REQUEST_URI} [NE,L,R]

This will redirect your non-www and www http requests to www version of https.

Another solution (Apache 2.4*)

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_SCHEME}::%{HTTP_HOST} ^http::(?:www\.)?(.+)$
RewriteRule ^ https://www.%1%{REQUEST_URI} [NE,L,R]

This doesn't work on lower versions of apache as %{REQUEST_SCHEME} variable was added to mod-rewrite since 2.4.

How do I print a datetime in the local timezone?

I wrote something like this the other day:

import time, datetime
def nowString():
    # we want something like '2007-10-18 14:00+0100'
    mytz="%+4.4d" % (time.timezone / -(60*60) * 100) # time.timezone counts westwards!
    dt  = datetime.datetime.now()
    dts = dt.strftime('%Y-%m-%d %H:%M')  # %Z (timezone) would be empty
    nowstring="%s%s" % (dts,mytz)
    return nowstring

So the interesting part for you is probably the line starting with "mytz=...". time.timezone returns the local timezone, albeit with opposite sign compared to UTC. So it says "-3600" to express UTC+1.

Despite its ignorance towards Daylight Saving Time (DST, see comment), I'm leaving this in for people fiddling around with time.timezone.

How to read the value of a private field from a different class in Java?

It is quite easy with the tool XrayInterface. Just define the missing getters/setters, e.g.

interface BetterDesigned {
  Hashtable getStuffIWant(); //is mapped by convention to stuffIWant
}

and xray your poor designed project:

IWasDesignedPoorly obj = new IWasDesignedPoorly();
BetterDesigned better = ...;
System.out.println(better.getStuffIWant());

Internally this relies on reflection.

I think you are all over engineering..

    $('.navbar-collapse ul li a').click(function(){

Cannot open include file: 'stdio.h' - Visual Studio Community 2017 - C++ Error

Faced the problem of missing stdlib.h and stdio.h (and maybe more) after installing VS2017 Community on a new computer and migrating a solution from VS2013 to VS2017.

Used @Maxim Akristiniy's proposal, but still got error message regarding toolset compatibility. However VS itself suggested to do solution retarget by right-clicking on the solution in Solution Explorer, then selecting Retarget solution from the menu and the updated Windows SDK Version from the drop-down list.

Now my projects build w/o a problem.

Note that you may need to make the project your startup project for the retargeting to catch.

addEventListener, "change" and option selection

You need a click listener which calls addActivityItem if less than 2 options exist:

var activities = document.getElementById("activitySelector");

activities.addEventListener("click", function() {
    var options = activities.querySelectorAll("option");
    var count = options.length;
    if(typeof(count) === "undefined" || count < 2)

    }
});

activities.addEventListener("change", function() {
    if(activities.value == "addNew")

    }
});

function addActivityItem() {

How to resolve "must be an instance of string, string given" prior to PHP 7?

As others have already said, type hinting currently only works for object types. But I think the particular error you've triggered might be in preparation of the upcoming string type SplString.

In theory it behaves like a string, but since it is an object would pass the object type verification. Unfortunately it's not yet in PHP 5.3, might come in 5.4, so haven't tested this.

Javascript Thousand Separator / string format

Update (7 years later)

The reference cited in the original answer below was wrong. There is a built in function for this, which is exactly what kaiser suggests below: toLocaleString

So you can do:

(1234567.89).toLocaleString('en')              // for numeric input
parseFloat("1234567.89").toLocaleString('en')  // for string input

The function implemented below works, too, but simply isn't necessary.

(I thought perhaps I'd get lucky and find out that it was necessary back in 2010, but no. According to this more reliable reference, toLocaleString has been part of the standard since ECMAScript 3rd Edition [1999], which I believe means it would have been supported as far back as IE 5.5.)

Original Answer

According to this reference there isn't a built in function for adding commas to a number. But that page includes an example of how to code it yourself:

function addCommas(nStr) {
    nStr += '';
    var x = nStr.split('.');
    var x1 = x[0];
    var x2 = x.length > 1 ? '.' + x[1] : '';
    var rgx = /(\d+)(\d{3})/;
    while (rgx.test(x1)) {
            x1 = x1.replace(rgx, '$1' + ',' + '$2');
    }
    return x1 + x2;
}

Edit: To go the other way (convert string with commas to number), you could do something like this:

parseFloat("1,234,567.89".replace(/,/g,''))

How to export data from Spark SQL to CSV

The error message suggests this is not a supported feature in the query language. But you can save a DataFrame in any format as usual through the RDD interface (df.rdd.saveAsTextFile). Or you can check out https://github.com/databricks/spark-csv.

Auto-redirect to another HTML page

Its a late answer, but as I can see most of the people mentioned about "refresh" method to redirect a webpage. As per W3C, we should not use "refresh" to redirect. Because it could break the "back" button. Imagine that the user presses the "back" button, the refresh would work again, and the user would bounce forward. The user will most likely get very annoyed, and close the window, which is probably not what you, as the author of this page, want.

Use HTTP redirects instead. One can refer the complete documentation here: W3C document

jQuery Remove string from string

If you just want to remove "username1" you can use a simple replace.

name.replace("username1,", "")

or you could use split like you mentioned.

var name = "username1, username2 and username3 like this post.".split(",")[1];
$("h1").text(name);

How can I indent multiple lines in Xcode?

Select "Tab key: Indents always" in Preferences->Text Editing->Indentation Then you can indent a single line or a selection of lines by pressing TAB or SHIFT+TAB Sadly this removes altogether the possibility to insert tabs where you want, and conflict badly with the tab key being used to switch between "autocompletion fields".

I guess we need more tab keys in the keyboard, one is not enough...

ConvergenceWarning: Liblinear failed to converge, increase the number of iterations

I reached the point that I set, up to max_iter=1200000 on my LinearSVC classifier, but still the "ConvergenceWarning" was still present. I fix the issue by just setting dual=False and leaving max_iter to its default.

With LogisticRegression(solver='lbfgs') classifier, you should increase max_iter. Mine have reached max_iter=7600 before the "ConvergenceWarning" disappears when training with large dataset's features.

Oracle database: How to read a BLOB?

What client do you use? .Net, Java, Ruby, SQLPLUS, SQL DEVELOPER? Where did you write that simple select statement?

And why do you want to read the content of the blob, a blob contains binary data so that data is unreadable. You should use a clob instead of a blob if you want to store text instead of binary content.

I suggest that you download SQL DEVELOPER: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/overview/index.html . With SQL DEVELOPER you can see the content.

Python TypeError must be str not int

you need to cast int to str before concatenating. for that use str(temperature). Or you can print the same output using , if you don't want to convert like this.

print("the furnace is now",temperature , "degrees!")

Cannot read property length of undefined

The id of the input seems is not WallSearch. Maybe you're confusing that name and id. They are two different properties. name is used to define the name by which the value is posted, while id is the unique identification of the element inside the DOM.

Other possibility is that you have two elements with the same id. The browser will pick any of these (probably the last, maybe the first) and return an element that doesn't support the value property.

PHP 5.5+

Starting PHP5.5+ you have array_column() available to you, which makes all of the below obsolete.

PHP 5.3+

$ids = array_map(function ($ar) {return $ar['id'];}, $users);

Solution by @phihag will work flawlessly in PHP starting from PHP 5.3.0, if you need support before that, you will need to copy that wp_list_pluck.

PHP < 5.3

Wordpress 3.1+

In Wordpress there is a function called wp_list_pluck If you're using Wordpress that solves your problem.

PHP < 5.3

If you're not using Wordpress, since the code is open source you can copy paste the code in your project (and rename the function to something you prefer, like array_pick). View source here

for me anyways, it helps to see it used. just made this using the "re" example:

var re = new RegExp( analyte_data,'g');
for(i=0;i<storage_keys.length;i++) {

        console.log(storage_keys[i]);
        var partnum = storage_keys[i].split('-')[2];
    }
}

Excel - extracting data based on another list

I have been hasseling with that as other folks have.

I used the criteria;

=countif(matchingList,C2)=0

where matchingList is the list that i am using as a filter.

have a look at this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x47VFMhRLnM&list=PL63A7644FE57C97F4&index=30

The trick i found is that normally you would have the column heading in the criteria matching the data column heading. this will not work for criteria that is a formula.

What I found was if I left the column heading blank for only the criteria that has the countif formula in the advanced filter works. If I have the column heading i.e. the column heading for column C2 in my formula example then the filter return no output.

Hope this helps

Sheet.getRange(1,1,1,12) what does the numbers in bracket specify?

Found these docu on the google docu pages:

  • row --- int --- top row of the range
  • column --- int--- leftmost column of the range
  • optNumRows --- int --- number of rows in the range.
  • optNumColumns --- int --- number of columns in the range

In your example, you would get (if you picked the 3rd row) "C3:O3", cause C --> O is 12 columns

edit

Using the example on the docu:

// The code below will get the number of columns for the range C2:G8
// in the active spreadsheet, which happens to be "4"
var count = SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSheet().getRange(2, 3, 6, 4).getNumColumns(); Browser.msgBox(count);

The values between brackets:
2: the starting row = 2
3: the starting col = C
6: the number of rows = 6 so from 2 to 8
4: the number of cols = 4 so from C to G

So you come to the range: C2:G8

Convert generic list to dataset in C#

There is a bug with Lee's extension code above, you need to add the newly filled row to the table t when iterating throught the items in the list.

public static DataSet ToDataSet<T>(this IList<T> list) {

Type elementType = typeof(T);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
DataTable t = new DataTable();
ds.Tables.Add(t);

//add a column to table for each public property on T
foreach(var propInfo in elementType.GetProperties())
{
    t.Columns.Add(propInfo.Name, propInfo.PropertyType);
}

//go through each property on T and add each value to the table
foreach(T item in list)
{
    DataRow row = t.NewRow();
    foreach(var propInfo in elementType.GetProperties())
    {
            row[propInfo.Name] = propInfo.GetValue(item, null);
    }

    //This line was missing:
    t.Rows.Add(row);
}

return ds;

}

Sorted collection in Java

If you want to maintain a sorted list which you will frequently modify (i.e. a structure which, in addition to being sorted, allows duplicates and whose elements can be efficiently referenced by index), then use an ArrayList but when you need to insert an element, always use Collections.binarySearch() to determine the index at which you add a given element. The latter method tells you the index you need to insert at to keep your list in sorted order.

$(window).width() not the same as media query

It's maybe a better practice not to JS-scope the document's width but some sort of change made by css @media query. With this method you can be sure the JQuery function and css change happens at the same time.

css:

#isthin {
    display: inline-block;
    content: '';
    width: 1px;
    height: 1px;
    overflow: hidden;
}

@media only screen and (max-width: 990px) {
    #isthin {
        display: none;
    }
}

jquery:

$(window).ready(function(){
    isntMobile = $('#isthin').is(":visible");
    ...
});

$(window).resize(function(){
    isntMobile = $('#isthin').is(":visible");
    ...

Deleting specific rows from DataTable

Before everyone jumps on the 'You can't delete rows in an Enumeration' bandwagon, you need to first realize that DataTables are transactional, and do not technically purge changes until you call AcceptChanges()

If you are seeing this exception while calling Delete, you are already in a pending-changes data state. For instance, if you have just loaded from the database, calling Delete would throw an exception if you were inside a foreach loop.

BUT! BUT!

If you load rows from the database and call the function 'AcceptChanges()' you commit all of those pending changes to the DataTable. Now you can iterate through the list of rows calling Delete() without a care in the world, because it simply ear-marks the row for Deletion, but is not committed until you again call AcceptChanges()

I realize this response is a bit dated, but I had to deal with a similar issue recently and hopefully this saves some pain for a future developer working on 10-year-old code :)

P.s. Here is a simple code example added by Jeff:

C#

YourDataTable.AcceptChanges();
foreach (DataRow row in YourDataTable.Rows) {
    // If this row is offensive then
    row.Delete();
}
YourDataTable.AcceptChanges();

VB.Net

ds.Tables(0).AcceptChanges()
For Each row In ds.Tables(0).Rows
    ds.Tables(0).Rows(counter).Delete()
    counter += 1
Next
ds.Tables(0).AcceptChanges()

What are differences between AssemblyVersion, AssemblyFileVersion and AssemblyInformationalVersion?

Versioning of assemblies in .NET can be a confusing prospect given that there are currently at least three ways to specify a version for your assembly.

Here are the three main version-related assembly attributes:

// Assembly mscorlib, Version 2.0.0.0
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("2.0.50727.3521")]
[assembly: AssemblyInformationalVersion("2.0.50727.3521")]
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("2.0.0.0")]

By convention, the four parts of the version are referred to as the Major Version, Minor Version, Build, and Revision.

The AssemblyFileVersion is intended to uniquely identify a build of the individual assembly

Typically you’ll manually set the Major and Minor AssemblyFileVersion to reflect the version of the assembly, then increment the Build and/or Revision every time your build system compiles the assembly. The AssemblyFileVersion should allow you to uniquely identify a build of the assembly, so that you can use it as a starting point for debugging any problems.

On my current project we have the build server encode the changelist number from our source control repository into the Build and Revision parts of the AssemblyFileVersion. This allows us to map directly from an assembly to its source code, for any assembly generated by the build server (without having to use labels or branches in source control, or manually keeping any records of released versions).

This version number is stored in the Win32 version resource and can be seen when viewing the Windows Explorer property pages for the assembly.

The CLR does not care about nor examine the AssemblyFileVersion.

The AssemblyInformationalVersion is intended to represent the version of your entire product

The AssemblyInformationalVersion is intended to allow coherent versioning of the entire product, which may consist of many assemblies that are independently versioned, perhaps with differing versioning policies, and potentially developed by disparate teams.

“For example, version 2.0 of a product might contain several assemblies; one of these assemblies is marked as version 1.0 since it’s a new assembly that didn’t ship in version 1.0 of the same product. Typically, you set the major and minor parts of this version number to represent the public version of your product. Then you increment the build and revision parts each time you package a complete product with all its assemblies.” — Jeffrey Richter, [CLR via C# (Second Edition)] p. 57

The CLR does not care about nor examine the AssemblyInformationalVersion.

The AssemblyVersion is the only version the CLR cares about (but it cares about the entire AssemblyVersion)

The AssemblyVersion is used by the CLR to bind to strongly named assemblies. It is stored in the AssemblyDef manifest metadata table of the built assembly, and in the AssemblyRef table of any assembly that references it.

This is very important, because it means that when you reference a strongly named assembly, you are tightly bound to a specific AssemblyVersion of that assembly. The entire AssemblyVersion must be an exact match for the binding to succeed. For example, if you reference version 1.0.0.0 of a strongly named assembly at build-time, but only version 1.0.0.1 of that assembly is available at runtime, binding will fail! (You will then have to work around this using Assembly Binding Redirection.)

Confusion over whether the entire AssemblyVersion has to match. (Yes, it does.)

There is a little confusion around whether the entire AssemblyVersion has to be an exact match in order for an assembly to be loaded. Some people are under the false belief that only the Major and Minor parts of the AssemblyVersion have to match in order for binding to succeed. This is a sensible assumption, however it is ultimately incorrect (as of .NET 3.5), and it’s trivial to verify this for your version of the CLR. Just execute this sample code.

On my machine the second assembly load fails, and the last two lines of the fusion log make it perfectly clear why:

.NET Framework Version: 2.0.50727.3521

I think the source of this confusion is probably because Microsoft originally intended to be a little more lenient on this strict matching of the full AssemblyVersion, by matching only on the Major and Minor version parts:

“When loading an assembly, the CLR will automatically find the latest installed servicing version that matches the major/minor version of the assembly being requested.” — Jeffrey Richter, [CLR via C# (Second Edition)] p. 56

This was the behaviour in Beta 1 of the 1.0 CLR, however this feature was removed before the 1.0 release, and hasn’t managed to re-surface in .NET 2.0:

“Note: I have just described how you should think of version numbers. Unfortunately, the CLR doesn’t treat version numbers this way. [In .NET 2.0], the CLR treats a version number as an opaque value, and if an assembly depends on version 1.2.3.4 of another assembly, the CLR tries to load version 1.2.3.4 only (unless a binding redirection is in place). However, Microsoft has plans to change the CLR’s loader in a future version so that it loads the latest build/revision for a given major/minor version of an assembly. For example, on a future version of the CLR, if the loader is trying to find version 1.2.3.4 of an assembly and version 1.2.5.0 exists, the loader with automatically pick up the latest servicing version. This will be a very welcome change to the CLR’s loader — I for one can’t wait.” — Jeffrey Richter, [CLR via C# (Second Edition)] p. 164 (Emphasis mine)

As this change still hasn’t been implemented, I think it’s safe to assume that Microsoft had back-tracked on this intent, and it is perhaps too late to change this now. I tried to search around the web to find out what happened with these plans, but I couldn’t find any answers. I still wanted to get to the bottom of it.

So I emailed Jeff Richter and asked him directly — I figured if anyone knew what happened, it would be him.

He replied within 12 hours, on a Saturday morning no less, and clarified that the .NET 1.0 Beta 1 loader did implement this ‘automatic roll-forward’ mechanism of picking up the latest available Build and Revision of an assembly, but this behaviour was reverted before .NET 1.0 shipped. It was later intended to revive this but it didn’t make it in before the CLR 2.0 shipped. Then came Silverlight, which took priority for the CLR team, so this functionality got delayed further. In the meantime, most of the people who were around in the days of CLR 1.0 Beta 1 have since moved on, so it’s unlikely that this will see the light of day, despite all the hard work that had already been put into it.

The current behaviour, it seems, is here to stay.

It is also worth noting from my discussion with Jeff that AssemblyFileVersion was only added after the removal of the ‘automatic roll-forward’ mechanism — because after 1.0 Beta 1, any change to the AssemblyVersion was a breaking change for your customers, there was then nowhere to safely store your build number. AssemblyFileVersion is that safe haven, since it’s never automatically examined by the CLR. Maybe it’s clearer that way, having two separate version numbers, with separate meanings, rather than trying to make that separation between the Major/Minor (breaking) and the Build/Revision (non-breaking) parts of the AssemblyVersion.

The bottom line: Think carefully about when you change your AssemblyVersion

The moral is that if you’re shipping assemblies that other developers are going to be referencing, you need to be extremely careful about when you do (and don’t) change the AssemblyVersion of those assemblies. Any changes to the AssemblyVersion will mean that application developers will either have to re-compile against the new version (to update those AssemblyRef entries) or use assembly binding redirects to manually override the binding.

  • Do not change the AssemblyVersion for a servicing release which is intended to be backwards compatible.
  • Do change the AssemblyVersion for a release that you know has breaking changes.

Just take another look at the version attributes on mscorlib:

// Assembly mscorlib, Version 2.0.0.0
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("2.0.50727.3521")]
[assembly: AssemblyInformationalVersion("2.0.50727.3521")]
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("2.0.0.0")]

Note that it’s the AssemblyFileVersion that contains all the interesting servicing information (it’s the Revision part of this version that tells you what Service Pack you’re on), meanwhile the AssemblyVersion is fixed at a boring old 2.0.0.0. Any change to the AssemblyVersion would force every .NET application referencing mscorlib.dll to re-compile against the new version!

How to check if an object is an array?

Here's my lazy approach:

if (Array.prototype.array_ === undefined) {
  Array.prototype.array_ = true;
}

// ...

var test = [],
    wat = {};

console.log(test.array_ === true); // true
console.log(wat.array_ === true);  // false

I know it's sacrilege to "mess with" the prototype, but it appears to perform significantly better than the recommended toString method.

Note: A pitfall of this approach is that it wont work across iframe boundaries, but for my use case this is not an issue.

How to add extension methods to Enums

According to this site:

Extension methods provide a way to write methods for existing classes in a way other people on your team might actually discover and use. Given that enums are classes like any other it shouldn’t be too surprising that you can extend them, like:

enum Duration { Day, Week, Month };

static class DurationExtensions
{
  public static DateTime From(this Duration duration, DateTime dateTime)
  {
    switch (duration)
    {
      case Day:   return dateTime.AddDays(1);
      case Week:  return dateTime.AddDays(7);
      case Month: return dateTime.AddMonths(1);
      default:    throw new ArgumentOutOfRangeException("duration");
    }
  }
}

I think enums are not the best choice in general but at least this lets you centralize some of the switch/if handling and abstract them away a bit until you can do something better. Remember to check the values are in range too.

Run function in script from command line (Node JS)

Sometimes you want to run a function via CLI, sometimes you want to require it from another module. Here's how to do both.

// file to run
const runMe = () => {}
if (require.main === module) {
  runMe()
}
module.exports = runMe

Converting XML to JSON using Python?

While the built-in libs for XML parsing are quite good I am partial to lxml.

But for parsing RSS feeds, I'd recommend Universal Feed Parser, which can also parse Atom. Its main advantage is that it can digest even most malformed feeds.

Python 2.6 already includes a JSON parser, but a newer version with improved speed is available as simplejson.

With these tools building your app shouldn't be that difficult.

What exactly is RESTful programming?

REST is an architectural style which is based on web-standards and the HTTP protocol (introduced in 2000).

In a REST based architecture, everything is a resource(Users, Orders, Comments). A resource is accessed via a common interface based on the HTTP standard methods(GET, PUT, PATCH, DELETE etc).

In a REST based architecture you have a REST server which provides access to the resources. A REST client can access and modify the REST resources.

Every resource should support the HTTP common operations. Resources are identified by global IDs (which are typically URIs).

REST allows that resources have different representations, e.g., text, XML, JSON etc. The REST client can ask for a specific representation via the HTTP protocol (content negotiation).

HTTP methods:

The PUT, GET, POST and DELETE methods are typical used in REST based architectures. The following table gives an explanation of these operations.

  • GET defines a reading access of the resource without side-effects. The resource is never changed via a GET request, e.g., the request has no side effects (idempotent).
  • PUT creates a new resource. It must also be idempotent.
  • DELETE removes the resources. The operations are idempotent. They can get repeated without leading to different results.
  • POST updates an existing resource or creates a new resource.

Responsively change div size keeping aspect ratio

That's my solution

<div class="main" style="width: 100%;">
    <div class="container">
        <div class="sizing"></div>
        <div class="content"></div>
    </div>
</div>

.main {
    width: 100%;
}
.container {

    float: right;
    position: relative;
}
.sizing {
    width: 100%;
    padding-bottom: 50%;
    visibility: hidden;
}

How to set background image in Java?

The answer will vary slightly depending on whether the application or applet is using AWT or Swing.

(Basically, classes that start with J such as JApplet and JFrame are Swing, and Applet and Frame are AWT.)

In either case, the basic steps would be:

  1. Draw or load an image into a Image object.
  2. Draw the background image in the painting event of the Component you want to draw the background in.

Step 1. Loading the image can be either by using the Toolkit class or by the ImageIO class.

The Toolkit.createImage method can be used to load an Image from a location specified in a String:

Image img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage("background.jpg");

Similarly, ImageIO can be used:

Image img = ImageIO.read(new File("background.jpg");

Step 2. The painting method for the Component that should get the background will need to be overridden and paint the Image onto the component.

For AWT, the method to override is the paint method, and use the drawImage method of the Graphics object that is handed into the paint method:

public void paint(Graphics g)
{
    // Draw the previously loaded image to Component.
    g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, null);

    // Draw sprites, and other things.
    // ....
}

For Swing, the method to override is the paintComponent method of the JComponent, and draw the Image as with what was done in AWT.

public void paintComponent(Graphics g)
{
    // Draw the previously loaded image to Component.
    g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, null);

    // Draw sprites, and other things.
    // ....
}

Simple Component Example

Here's a Panel which loads an image file when instantiated, and draws that image on itself:

class BackgroundPanel extends Panel
{
    // The Image to store the background image in.
    Image img;
    public BackgroundPanel()
    {
        // Loads the background image and stores in img object.
        img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage("background.jpg");
    }

    public void paint(Graphics g)
    {
        // Draws the img to the BackgroundPanel.
        g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, null);
    }
}

C# int to enum conversion

if (Enum.IsDefined(typeof(foo), value))
{
   return (Foo)Enum.Parse(typeof(foo), value);
}

Hope this helps

Edit This answer got down voted as value in my example is a string, where as the question asked for an int. My applogies; the following should be a bit clearer :-)

Type fooType = typeof(foo);

if (Enum.IsDefined(fooType , value.ToString()))
{
   return (Foo)Enum.Parse(fooType , value.ToString());

Sending SOAP request using Python Requests

It is indeed possible.

Here is an example calling the Weather SOAP Service using plain requests lib:

import requests
url="http://wsf.cdyne.com/WeatherWS/Weather.asmx?WSDL"
#headers = {'content-type': 'application/soap+xml'}
headers = {'content-type': 'text/xml'}
body = """<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
         <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:ns0="http://ws.cdyne.com/WeatherWS/" xmlns:ns1="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
            xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
            <SOAP-ENV:Header/>
              <ns1:Body><ns0:GetWeatherInformation/></ns1:Body>
         </SOAP-ENV:Envelope>"""

response = requests.post(url,data=body,headers=headers)
print response.content

Some notes:

  • The headers are important. Most SOAP requests will not work without the correct headers. application/soap+xml is probably the more correct header to use (but the weatherservice prefers text/xml
  • This will return the response as a string of xml - you would then need to parse that xml.
  • For simplicity I have included the request as plain text. But best practise would be to store this as a template, then you can load it using jinja2 (for example) - and also pass in variables.

For example:

from jinja2 import Environment, PackageLoader
env = Environment(loader=PackageLoader('myapp', 'templates'))
template = env.get_template('soaprequests/WeatherSericeRequest.xml')
body = template.render()

Some people have mentioned the suds library. Suds is probably the more correct way to be interacting with SOAP, but I often find that it panics a little when you have WDSLs that are badly formed (which, TBH, is more likely than not when you're dealing with an institution that still uses SOAP ;) ).

You can do the above with suds like so:

from suds.client import Client
url="http://wsf.cdyne.com/WeatherWS/Weather.asmx?WSDL"
client = Client(url)
print client ## shows the details of this service

result = client.service.GetWeatherInformation()
print result

Note: when using suds, you will almost always end up needing to use the doctor!

Finally, a little bonus for debugging SOAP; TCPdump is your friend. On Mac, you can run TCPdump like so:

sudo tcpdump -As 0

This can be helpful for inspecting the requests that actually go over the wire.

The above two code snippets are also available as gists:

In an array of objects, fastest way to find the index of an object whose attributes match a search

Since there's no answer using regular array find:

var one = {id: 1, name: 'one'};
var two = {id: 2, name:'two'}
var arr = [one, two]

var found = arr.find((a) => a.id === 2)

found === two // true

arr.indexOf(found) // 1

Export to CSV using MVC, C# and jQuery

With MVC you can simply return a file like this:

public ActionResult ExportData()
{
    System.IO.FileInfo exportFile = //create your ExportFile
    return File(exportFile.FullName, "text/csv", string.Format("Export-{0}.csv", DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyyMMdd-HHmmss")));
}

Capitalize or change case of an NSString in Objective-C

Here ya go:

viewNoteDateMonth.text  = [[displayDate objectAtIndex:2] uppercaseString];

Btw:
"april" is lowercase ? [NSString lowercaseString]
"APRIL" is UPPERCASE ? [NSString uppercaseString]
"April May" is Capitalized/Word Caps ? [NSString capitalizedString]
"April may" is Sentence caps ? (method missing; see workaround below)

Hence what you want is called "uppercase", not "capitalized". ;)

As for "Sentence Caps" one has to keep in mind that usually "Sentence" means "entire string". If you wish for real sentences use the second method, below, otherwise the first:

@interface NSString ()

- (NSString *)sentenceCapitalizedString; // sentence == entire string
- (NSString *)realSentenceCapitalizedString; // sentence == real sentences

@end

@implementation NSString

- (NSString *)sentenceCapitalizedString {
    if (![self length]) {
        return [NSString string];
    }
    NSString *uppercase = [[self substringToIndex:1] uppercaseString];
    NSString *lowercase = [[self substringFromIndex:1] lowercaseString];
    return [uppercase stringByAppendingString:lowercase];
}

- (NSString *)realSentenceCapitalizedString {
    __block NSMutableString *mutableSelf = [NSMutableString stringWithString:self];
    [self enumerateSubstringsInRange:NSMakeRange(0, [self length])
                             options:NSStringEnumerationBySentences
                          usingBlock:^(NSString *sentence, NSRange sentenceRange, NSRange enclosingRange, BOOL *stop) {
        [mutableSelf replaceCharactersInRange:sentenceRange withString:[sentence sentenceCapitalizedString]];
    }];
    return [NSString stringWithString:mutableSelf]; // or just return mutableSelf.
}

@end

Can I try/catch a warning?

If dns_get_record() fails, it should return FALSE, so you can suppress the warning with @ and then check the return value.

NPM vs. Bower vs. Browserify vs. Gulp vs. Grunt vs. Webpack

OK, they all have got some similarities, they do the same things for you in different and similar ways, I divide them in 3 main groups as below:

1) Module bundlers

webpack and browserify as popular ones, work like task runners but with more flexibility, aslo it will bundle everything together as your setting, so you can point to the result as bundle.js for example in one single file including the CSS and Javascript, for more details of each, look at the details below:

webpack

webpack is a module bundler for modern JavaScript applications. When webpack processes your application, it recursively builds a dependency graph that includes every module your application needs, then packages all of those modules into a small number of bundles - often only one - to be loaded by the browser.

It is incredibly configurable, but to get started you only need to understand Four Core Concepts: entry, output, loaders, and plugins.

This document is intended to give a high-level overview of these concepts, while providing links to detailed concept specific use-cases.

more here

browserify

Browserify is a development tool that allows us to write node.js-style modules that compile for use in the browser. Just like node, we write our modules in separate files, exporting external methods and properties using the module.exports and exports variables. We can even require other modules using the require function, and if we omit the relative path it’ll resolve to the module in the node_modules directory.

2) Task runners

gulp and grunt are task runners, basically what they do, creating tasks and run them whenever you want, for example you install a plugin to minify your CSS and then run it each time to do minifying, more details about each:

gulp

gulp.js is an open-source JavaScript toolkit by Fractal Innovations and the open source community at GitHub, used as a streaming build system in front-end web development. It is a task runner built on Node.js and Node Package Manager (npm), used for automation of time-consuming and repetitive tasks involved in web development like minification, concatenation, cache busting, unit testing, linting, optimization etc. gulp uses a code-over-configuration approach to define its tasks and relies on its small, single-purposed plugins to carry them out. gulp ecosystem has 1000+ such plugins made available to choose from.

more here

grunt

Grunt is a JavaScript task runner, a tool used to automatically perform frequently used tasks such as minification, compilation, unit testing, linting, etc. It uses a command-line interface to run custom tasks defined in a file (known as a Gruntfile). Grunt was created by Ben Alman and is written in Node.js. It is distributed via npm. Presently, there are more than five thousand plugins available in the Grunt ecosystem.

3) Package managers

package managers, what they do is managing plugins you need in your application and install them for you through github etc using package.json, very handy to update you modules, install them and sharing your app across, more details for each:

npm

npm is a package manager for the JavaScript programming language. It is the default package manager for the JavaScript runtime environment Node.js. It consists of a command line client, also called npm, and an online database of public packages, called the npm registry. The registry is accessed via the client, and the available packages can be browsed and searched via the npm website.

more here

bower

Bower can manage components that contain HTML, CSS, JavaScript, fonts or even image files. Bower doesn’t concatenate or minify code or do anything else - it just installs the right versions of the packages you need and their dependencies. To get started, Bower works by fetching and installing packages from all over, taking care of hunting, finding, downloading, and saving the stuff you’re looking for. Bower keeps track of these packages in a manifest file, bower.json.

more here

and the most recent package manager that shouldn't be missed, it's young and fast in real work environment compare to npm which I was mostly using before, for reinstalling modules, it do double checks the node_modules folder to check the existence of the module, also seems installing the modules takes less time:

yarn

Yarn is a package manager for your code. It allows you to use and share code with other developers from around the world. Yarn does this quickly, securely, and reliably so you don’t ever have to worry.

Yarn allows you to use other developers’ solutions to different problems, making it easier for you to develop your software. If you have problems, you can report issues or contribute back, and when the problem is fixed, you can use Yarn to keep it all up to date.

Code is shared through something called a package (sometimes referred to as a module). A package contains all the code being shared as well as a package.json file which describes the package.

Bash script - variable content as a command to run

You just need to do:

#!/bin/bash
count=$(cat last_queries.txt | wc -l)
$(perl test.pl test2 $count)

However, if you want to call your Perl command later, and that's why you want to assign it to a variable, then:

#!/bin/bash
count=$(cat last_queries.txt | wc -l)
var="perl test.pl test2 $count" # You need double quotes to get your $count value substituted.

...stuff...

eval $var

As per Bash's help:

~$ help eval
eval: eval [arg ...]
    Execute arguments as a shell command.

    Combine ARGs into a single string, use the result as input to the shell,
    and execute the resulting commands.

    Exit Status:
    Returns exit status of command or success if command is null.

Swift - Integer conversion to Hours/Minutes/Seconds

Another way would be convert seconds to date and take the components i.e seconds, minutes and hour from date itself. This solution has limitation only till 23:59:59

  4. "make public"

Best way to test exceptions with Assert to ensure they will be thrown

With most .net unit testing frameworks you can put an [ExpectedException] attribute on the test method. However this can't tell you that the exception happened at the point you expected it to. That's where xunit.net can help.

With xunit you have Assert.Throws, so you can do things like this:

    [Fact]
    public void CantDecrementBasketLineQuantityBelowZero()
    {
        var o = new Basket();
        var p = new Product {Id = 1, NetPrice = 23.45m};
        o.AddProduct(p, 1);
        Assert.Throws<BusinessException>(() => o.SetProductQuantity(p, -3));
    }

[Fact] is the xunit equivalent of [TestMethod]

Execute multiple command lines with the same process using .NET

You can redirect standard input and use a StreamWriter to write to it:

        Process p = new Process();
        ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo();
        info.FileName = "cmd.exe";
        info.RedirectStandardInput = true;
        info.UseShellExecute = false;

        p.StartInfo = info;
        p.Start();

        using (StreamWriter sw = p.StandardInput)
        {
            if (sw.BaseStream.CanWrite)
            {
                sw.WriteLine("mysql -u root -p");

GitHub: Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Given that none of the answers here worked for me, I finally tracked down my issue connecting to Bitbucket (or Github, doesn't matter in this case) with ssh -vT [email protected].

In my case, the failure was due to using a DSA key instead of RSA, and apparently my SSH client no longer allows that.

debug1: Skipping ssh-dss key /c/Users/USER/.ssh/id_dsa for not in PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes

The solution was to add this to .ssh/config:

Host *
    PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes +ssh-dss

This elegantly appends the ssh-dss key type to all existing accepted public key types and after this was done, git can now ssh into Bitbucket no problem.

How do I find out which settings.xml file maven is using

Use the Maven debug option, ie mvn -X :

Apache Maven 3.0.3 (r1075438; 2011-02-28 18:31:09+0100)
Maven home: /usr/java/apache-maven-3.0.3
Java version: 1.6.0_12, vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
Java home: /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_12/jre
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF-8
OS name: "linux", version: "2.6.32-32-generic", arch: "i386", family: "unix"
[INFO] Error stacktraces are turned on.
[DEBUG] Reading global settings from /usr/java/apache-maven-3.0.3/conf/settings.xml
[DEBUG] Reading user settings from /home/myhome/.m2/settings.xml

In this output, you can see that the settings.xml is loaded from /home/myhome/.m2/settings.xml.

How can I force a long string without any blank to be wrapped?

I don't think you can do this with CSS. Instead, at regular 'word lengths' along the string, insert an HTML soft-hyphen:

ACTGATCG&shy;AGCTGAAG&shy;CGCAGTGC&shy;GATGCTTC&shy;GATGATGC&shy;TGACGATG

This will display a hyphen at the end of the line, where it wraps, which may or may not be what you want.

Note Safari seems to wrap the long string in a <textarea> anyway, unlike Firefox.

How to go to each directory and execute a command?

If you're using GNU find, you can try -execdir parameter, e.g.:

find . -type d -execdir realpath "{}" ';'

or (as per @gniourf_gniourf comment):

find . -type d -execdir sh -c 'printf "%s/%s\n" "$PWD" "$0"' {} \;

Note: You can use ${0#./} instead of $0 to fix ./ in the front.

or more practical example:

find . -name .git -type d -execdir git pull -v ';'

If you want to include the current directory, it's even simpler by using -exec:

find . -type d -exec sh -c 'cd -P -- "{}" && pwd -P' \;

or using xargs:

find . -type d -print0 | xargs -0 -L1 sh -c 'cd "$0" && pwd && echo Do stuff'

Or similar example suggested by @gniourf_gniourf:

find . -type d -print0 | while IFS= read -r -d '' file; do
# ...
done

The above examples support directories with spaces in their name.

Or by assigning into bash array:

dirs=($(find . -type d))
for dir in "${dirs[@]}"; do
  cd "$dir"
  echo $PWD
done

Change . to your specific folder name. If you don't need to run recursively, you can use: dirs=(*) instead. The above example doesn't support directories with spaces in the name.

So as @gniourf_gniourf suggested, the only proper way to put the output of find in an array without using an explicit loop will be available in Bash 4.4 with:

mapfile -t -d '' dirs < <(find . -type d -print0)

Or not a recommended way (which involves parsing of ls):

ls -d */ | awk '{print $NF}' | xargs -n1 sh -c 'cd $0 && pwd && echo Do stuff'

The above example would ignore the current dir (as requested by OP), but it'll break on names with the spaces.

WAMP Server doesn't load localhost

I faced a similar problem. I tried everything with ports, hosts and config files.But nothing helped.

I checked apache error logs. They showed the following error

(OS 10038)An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. : AH00332: winnt_accept: getsockname error on listening socket, is IPv6 available?

Finally this is what solved my problem.

1) Goto command prompt and run it in administrative mode. In windows 7 you can do it by typing cmd in run and then pressing ctrl+shift+enter

2) run the following command: netsh winsock reset

3) Restart the system

Differences between C++ string == and compare()?

Suppose consider two string s and t.
Give them some values.
When you compare them using (s==t) it returns a boolean value(true or false , 1 or 0).
But when you compare using s.compare(t) ,the expression returns a value
(i) 0 - if s and t are equal
(ii) <0 - either if the value of the first unmatched character in s is less than that of t or the length of s is less than that of t.
(iii) >0 - either if the value of the first unmatched character in t is less than that of s or the length of t is less than that of s.

How to set the text color of TextView in code?

I normally do this for any views:

where

  • AA defines alpha (00 for transparent, FF for opaque)

  • RRGGBB defines the normal HTML color code (like FF0000 for red).

How to use Python to execute a cURL command?

For sake of simplicity, maybe you should consider using the Requests library.

An example with json response content would be something like:

import requests
r = requests.get('https://github.com/timeline.json')
r.json()

If you look for further information, in the Quickstart section, they have lots of working examples.

EDIT:

For your specific curl translation:

import requests
url = 'https://www.googleapis.com/qpxExpress/v1/trips/search?key=mykeyhere'
payload = open("request.json")
headers = {'content-type': 'application/json', 'Accept-Charset': 'UTF-8'}
r = requests.post(url, data=payload, headers=headers)

Remove a JSON attribute

Simple:

delete myObj.test.key1;

How to include layout inside layout?

From Official documents about Re-using Layouts

Although Android offers a variety of widgets to provide small and re-usable interactive elements, you might also need to re-use larger components that require a special layout. To efficiently re-use complete layouts, you can use the tag to embed another layout inside the current layout.

Here is my header.xml file which i can reuse using include tag

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:background="#FFFFFF"
    >

    <TextView
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="fill_parent"
        android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
        android:layout_centerVertical="true"
        android:gravity="center"
        android:text="@string/app_name"
        android:textColor="#000000" />

</RelativeLayout>

No I use the tag in XML to add another layout from another XML file.

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:background="#f0f0f0" >

    <include
        android:id="@+id/header_VIEW"
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        layout="@layout/header" />

        <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_margin="5dp"
        android:background="#ffffff"
        android:orientation="vertical"
        android:padding="5dp" >

    </LinearLayout>

Difference between save and saveAndFlush in Spring data jpa

On saveAndFlush, changes will be flushed to DB immediately in this command. With save, this is not necessarily true, and might stay just in memory, until flush or commit commands are issued.

But be aware, that even if you flush the changes in transaction and do not commit them, the changes still won't be visible to the outside transactions until the commit in this transaction.

In your case, you probably use some sort of transactions mechanism, which issues commit command for you if everything works out fine.

Append same text to every cell in a column in Excel

Setting DataContext in XAML in WPF

There are several issues here.

  1. You can't assign DataContext as DataContext="{Binding Employee}" because it's a complex object which can't be assigned as string. So you have to use <Window.DataContext></Window.DataContext> syntax.
  2. You assign the class that represents the data context object to the view, not an individual property so {Binding Employee} is invalid here, you just have to specify an object.
  3. Now when you assign data context using valid syntax like below
   <Window.DataContext>
      <local:Employee/>
   </Window.DataContext>

know that you are creating a new instance of the Employee class and assigning it as the data context object. You may well have nothing in default constructor so nothing will show up. But then how do you manage it in code behind file? You have typecast the DataContext.

    private void my_button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
        Employee e = (Employee) DataContext;
    }
  1. A second way is to assign the data context in the code behind file itself. The advantage then is your code behind file already knows it and can work with it.

    public partial class MainWindow : Window
    {
       Employee employee = new Employee();

       public MainWindow()
       {
           InitializeComponent();

           DataContext = employee;
       }
    }

What is an alternative to execfile in Python 3?

You are just supposed to read the file and exec the code yourself. 2to3 current replaces

execfile("somefile.py", global_vars, local_vars)

as

with open("somefile.py") as f:
    code = compile(f.read(), "somefile.py", 'exec')
    exec(code, global_vars, local_vars)

(The compile call isn't strictly needed, but it associates the filename with the code object making debugging a little easier.)

"Expected an indented block" error?

You have to indent the docstring after the function definition there (line 3, 4):

def print_lol(the_list):
"""this doesn't works"""
    print 'Ain't happening'

Indented:

def print_lol(the_list):
    """this works!"""
    print 'Aaaand it's happening'

Or you can use # to comment instead:

def print_lol(the_list):
#this works, too!
    print 'Hohoho'

Also, you can see PEP 257 about docstrings.

Hope this helps!

How I add Headers to http.get or http.post in Typescript and angular 2?

You can define a Headers object with a dictionary of HTTP key/value pairs, and then pass it in as an argument to http.get() and http.post() like this:

const headerDict = {
  'Content-Type': 'application/json',
  'Accept': 'application/json',
  'Access-Control-Allow-Headers': 'Content-Type',
}

const requestOptions = {
  headers: new Headers(headerDict),
};

return this.http.get(this.heroesUrl, requestOptions)

Or, if it's a POST request:

const data = JSON.stringify(heroData);
return this.http.post(this.heroesUrl, data, requestOptions);

Since Angular 7 and up you have to use HttpHeaders class instead of Headers:

const requestOptions = {
  headers: new HttpHeaders(headerDict),
};

How to do a PUT request with curl?

I am late to this thread, but I too had a similar requirement. Since my script was constructing the request for curl dynamically, I wanted a similar structure of the command across GET, POST and PUT.

Here is what works for me

For PUT request:

curl --request PUT --url http://localhost:8080/put --header 'content-type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded' --data 'bar=baz&foo=foo1'

For POST request:

curl --request POST --url http://localhost:8080/post --header 'content-type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded' --data 'bar=baz&foo=foo1'

For GET request:

curl --request GET --url 'http://localhost:8080/get?foo=bar&foz=baz'

Radio buttons and label to display in same line

I'm assuming the problem is that they are wrapping onto separate lines when the window is too narrow. As others have pointed out, by default the label and input should be "display:inline;", so unless you have other style rules that are changing this, they should render on the same line if there is room.

Without changing the markup, there will be no way to fix this using only CSS.

The simplest way to fix it would be to wrap the radio button and label in a block element, such as a p or a div, and then prevent that from wrapping by using white-space:nowrap. For example:

<div style="white-space:nowrap;">
  <label for="one">First Item</label>
  <input type="radio" id="one" name="first_item" value="1" />
</div>

Java 8: How do I work with exception throwing methods in streams?

You might want to do one of the following:

  • propagate checked exception,
  • wrap it and propagate unchecked exception, or
  • catch the exception and stop propagation.

Several libraries let you do that easily. Example below is written using my NoException library.

// Propagate checked exception
as.forEach(Exceptions.sneak().consumer(A::foo));

// Wrap and propagate unchecked exception
as.forEach(Exceptions.wrap().consumer(A::foo));
as.forEach(Exceptions.wrap(MyUncheckedException::new).consumer(A::foo));

// Catch the exception and stop propagation (using logging handler for example)
as.forEach(Exceptions.log().consumer(Exceptions.sneak().consumer(A::foo)));
