If you've installed MySQL with homebrew, what worked for me was uninstalling MySQL, and installing MySQL Community Edition via the MySQL website (https://www.mysql.com/).

Foreign key constraint may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths?

SQL Server does simple counting of cascade paths and, rather than trying to work out whether any cycles actually exist, it assumes the worst and refuses to create the referential actions (CASCADE): you can and should still create the constraints without the referential actions. If you can't alter your design (or doing so would compromise things) then you should consider using triggers as a last resort.

FWIW resolving cascade paths is a complex problem. Other SQL products will simply ignore the problem and allow you to create cycles, in which case it will be a race to see which will overwrite the value last, probably to the ignorance of the designer (e.g. ACE/Jet does this). I understand some SQL products will attempt to resolve simple cases. Fact remains, SQL Server doesn't even try, plays it ultra safe by disallowing more than one path and at least it tells you so.

Microsoft themselves advises the use of triggers instead of FK constraints.

This is a source code formatting tool.


clang-format is a powerful command line tool bundled with the clang compiler which handles even the most obscure language constructs in a coherent way.

It can be integrated with Visual Studio, Emacs, Vim (and others) and can format just the selected lines (or with git/svn to format some diff).

It can be configured with a variety of options listed here.

When using config files (named .clang-format) styles can be per directory - the closest such file in parent directories shall be used for a particular file.

Styles can be inherited from a preset (say LLVM or Google) and can later override different options

It is used by Google and others and is production ready.


Also look at the project UniversalIndentGUI. You can experiment with several indenters using it: AStyle, Uncrustify, GreatCode, ... and select the best for you. Any of them can be run later from a command line.


Uncrustify has a lot of configurable options. You'll probably need Universal Indent GUI (in Konstantin's reply) as well to configure it.

Spring MVC: How to perform validation?

There are two ways to validate user input: annotations and by inheriting Spring's Validator class. For simple cases, the annotations are nice. If you need complex validations (like cross-field validation, eg. "verify email address" field), or if your model is validated in multiple places in your application with different rules, or if you don't have the ability to modify your model object by placing annotations on it, Spring's inheritance-based Validator is the way to go. I'll show examples of both.

The actual validation part is the same regardless of which type of validation you're using:

HTML5 Pre-resize images before uploading

I tackled this problem a few years ago and uploaded my solution to github as https://github.com/rossturner/HTML5-ImageUploader

robertc's answer uses the solution proposed in the Mozilla Hacks blog post, however I found this gave really poor image quality when resizing to a scale that was not 2:1 (or a multiple thereof). I started experimenting with different image resizing algorithms, although most ended up being quite slow or else were not great in quality either.

Finally I came up with a solution which I believe executes quickly and has pretty good performance too - as the Mozilla solution of copying from 1 canvas to another works quickly and without loss of image quality at a 2:1 ratio, given a target of x pixels wide and y pixels tall, I use this canvas resizing method until the image is between x and 2 x, and y and 2 y. At this point I then turn to algorithmic image resizing for the final "step" of resizing down to the target size. After trying several different algorithms I settled on bilinear interpolation taken from a blog which is not online anymore but accessible via the Internet Archive, which gives good results, here's the applicable code:

This scales an image down to a width of config.maxWidth, maintaining the original aspect ratio. At the time of development this worked on iPad/iPhone Safari in addition to major desktop browsers (IE9+, Firefox, Chrome) so I expect it will still be compatible given the broader uptake of HTML5 today. Note that the canvas.toDataURL() call takes a mime type and image quality which will allow you to control the quality and output file format (potentially different to input if you wish).

The only point this doesn't cover is maintaining the orientation information, without knowledge of this metadata the image is resized and saved as-is, losing any metadata within the image for orientation meaning that images taken on a tablet device "upside down" were rendered as such, although they would have been flipped in the device's camera viewfinder. If this is a concern, this blog post has a good guide and code examples on how to accomplish this, which I'm sure could be integrated to the above code.

MySQL set current date in a DATETIME field on insert

Your best bet is to change that column to a timestamp. MySQL will automatically use the first timestamp in a row as a 'last modified' value and update it for you. This is configurable if you just want to save creation time.

What does on_delete do on Django models?

Using CASCADE means actually telling Django to delete the referenced record. In the poll app example below: When a 'Question' gets deleted it will also delete the Choices this Question has.

e.g Question: How did you hear about us? (Choices: 1. Friends 2. TV Ad 3. Search Engine 4. Email Promotion)

When you delete this question, it will also delete all these four choices from the table. Note that which direction it flows. You don't have to put on_delete=models.CASCADE in Question Model put it in the Choice.

Determine the number of lines within a text file

A viable option, and one that I have personally used, would be to add your own header to the first line of the file. I did this for a custom model format for my game. Basically, I have a tool that optimizes my .obj files, getting rid of the crap I don't need, converts them to a better layout, and then writes the total number of lines, faces, normals, vertices, and texture UVs on the very first line. That data is then used by various array buffers when the model is loaded.

This is also useful because you only need to loop through the file once to load it in, instead of once to count the lines, and again to read the data into your created buffers.

Because, it tries to match the user_email in the members table and it's not there. According to your auth configuration, laravel is using members table for authentication not users table.

Setting a value in a dictionary updates its internal "version number" - which invalidates the iterator, and any iterator associated with the keys or values collection.

I do see your point, but at the same time it would be odd if the values collection could change mid-iteration - and for simplicity there's only one version number.

The normal way of fixing this sort of thing is to either copy the collection of keys beforehand and iterate over the copy, or iterate over the original collection but maintain a collection of changes which you'll apply after you've finished iterating.

For example:

It depends on what you mean by "multiple lines". Different operating systems use different line separators.

In Java, \r is always carriage return, and \n is line feed. On Unix, just \n is enough for a newline, whereas many programs on Windows require \r\n. You can get at the platform default newline use System.getProperty("line.separator") or use String.format("%n") as mentioned in other answers.

But really, you need to know whether you're trying to produce OS-specific newlines - for example, if this is text which is going to be transmitted as part of a specific protocol, then you should see what that protocol deems to be a newline. For example, RFC 2822 defines a line separator of \r\n and this should be used even if you're running on Unix. So it's all about context.

I was having Python 3.6 and was facing the issue as "No module named tensorflow" on "pip install tensorflow". Turned out as my machine was of 64 bit while the Python 3.6 version installed was for 32 bit. Uninstalled it, reinstalled the Python 3.6 x64 version, pip installed tensorflow, problem solved.

You don't have to use decimal like I did, you can use float or int if you don't have decimals. So let's break it down. We use a for loop to total all the items in the column 2(SubItems[1].Text). Add that to a decimal we declared prior to the foreach loop to keep a total. If you want to do tax you can do something like:

or whatever your tax rate is.

Long and short of it, using this function you can retotal your listview by just calling the function. You can change the labels text like I demo'd prior if that's what you're after.

I had a similar issue and solved it with a patch to ec2.py and adding some configuration parameters to ec2.ini. The patch takes the value of ec2_key_name, prefixes it with the ssh_key_path, and adds the ssh_key_suffix to the end, and writes out ansible_ssh_private_key_file as this value.

The following variables have to be added to ec2.ini in a new 'ssh' section (this is optional if the defaults match your environment):

There is no support for MapFragment, Android team says is working on it since Android 3.0. Here more information about the issue But what you can do it by creating a Fragment that returns a MapActivity. Here is a code example. Thanks to inazaruk:

How it works :

  • MainFragmentActivity is the activity that extends FragmentActivity and hosts two MapFragments.
  • MyMapActivity extends MapActivity and has MapView.
  • LocalActivityManagerFragment hosts LocalActivityManager.
  • MyMapFragment extends LocalActivityManagerFragment and with help of TabHost creates internal instance of MyMapActivity.

After you install the missing zlib dev package you can also use pythonbrew to uninstall and then reinstall the version of python you wanted and it seems like it picks up the new package to compile to correct abilities. This way you can keep using pythonbrew and don't have to do the compilation yourself (though it isn't that difficult)

Newline in JLabel

You can try and do this:

The advantages of doing this are:

  • It replaces all newlines with <br/>, without fail.
  • It automatically replaces eventual < and > with &lt; and &gt; respectively, preventing some render havoc.

What it does is:

  • "<html>" + adds an opening html tag at the beginning
  • .replaceAll("<", "&lt;").replaceAll(">", "&gt;") escapes < and > for convenience
  • .replaceAll("\n", "<br/>") replaces all newlines by br (HTML line break) tags for what you wanted
  • ... and + "</html>" closes our html tag at the end.

but this would be rather time-consuming to type out!

The error comes when you try to call sum(x) and x is a factor.

What that means is that one of your columns, though they look like numbers are actually factors (what you are seeing is the text representation)

simple fix, convert to numeric. However, it needs an intermeidate step of converting to character first. Use the following:

Then it is decided to add this component in core module.

One engineer has previous code for geo module and then he has taken the latest module of core but he forgot to take the latest geo module.

Solution Procedure:

After removal the component from geo module, component[locationRecommendHttpClientBuilder] is only available in core module. So there is no conflicting situation. Issue is solved by this way.

The best I've seen so far is HtmlCleaner:

It's an encoding problem. You have to set the correct encoding in the HTML head via meta tag:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">

Replace "ISO-8859-1" with whatever your encoding is (e.g. 'UTF-8'). You must find out what encoding your HTML files are. If you're on an Unix system, just type file file.html and it should show you the encoding. If this is not possible, you should be able to find out somewhere what encoding your editor produces.

Sometimes because you are resolving your interface in ContainerBootstraper.cs it's very difficult to catch the error. In my case there was an error in resolving the implementation of the interface I've injected to the api controller. I couldn't find the error because I have resolve the interface in my bootstraperContainer like this: container.RegisterType<IInterfaceApi, MyInterfaceImplementaionHelper>(new ContainerControlledLifetimeManager());
then I've adde the following line in my bootstrap container : container.RegisterType<MyController>(); so when I compile the project , compiler complained and stopped in above line and showed the error.

Exporting without default means it's a "named export". You can have multiple named exports in a single file. So if you do this,

In my case, HTTPS protocol was not supported by libcurl at the first place. To find out which protocols are supported and which are not, I checked the curl version using command:

Extract hostname name from string

Was looking for a solution to this problem today. None of the above answers seemed to satisfy. I wanted a solution that could be a one liner, no conditional logic and nothing that had to be wrapped in a function.

Here's what I came up with, seems to work really well:

In my case this was actually a symptom of the server, hosted on AWS, lacking an IP for the external network. It would attempt to download namespaces from springframework.org and fail to make a connection.

Favicon not showing up in Google Chrome

I read a bunch of different entries till I finally found a solution that worked for my scenario (ASP.NET MVC4 project).

Instead of using the filename favicon.ico for my icon, I renamed it to something else, ie myIcon.ico. Then I just used exactly what Domi posted:

I just want to add, if you get this error because you are using Cygwin make and auto-generated files, you can fix it with the following sed,

SQL Server Express 2008 Install Side-by-side w/ SQL 2005 Express Fails

N.B. These notes are for SQL Server Express 2008 R2 (so Microsoft still haven't made this any easier). I also realise that I complicated things by installing 32-bit SQL Server Express 2005 and 64-bit SQL Server Express 2008.

I followed the steps by Josh Hinman above. Uninstalling the SQL Server Express 2005 "Workstation Components" was not enough. I required an uninstall of the 2005 Management Studio as well.

I also tried the Upgrade route that Josh Hinman suggested by clicking on the 'Upgrade from SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008'. This route never gave me the option of installing the components side-by-side it just went straight through the process of upgrading from 2005 to 2008. It completed successfully - but hadn't actually done anything. Thankfully though it hadn't harmed any existing database instances. So be warned trying that route.

As other fellows pointed, you can force a device to show you a numeric keyboard with type="number" / type="tel", but I must emphasize that you have to be extremely cautious with this.

If someone expects a number beginning with zeros, such as 000222, then she is likely to have trouble, as some browsers (desktop Chrome, for instance) will send to the server 222, which is not what she wants.

About type="tel" I can't say anything similar but personally I do not use it, as its behavior on different telephones can vary. I have confined myself to the simple pattern="[0-9]*" which do not work in Android

The accepted answer definitely works, but somehow miss an important point.

The OP is asking for a dictionary sorted by it's keys this is just not really possible and not what OrderedDict is doing.

OrderedDict is maintaining the content of the dictionary in insertion order. First item inserted, second item inserted, etc.

This may be important if you are keeping access to dictionaries through containers. This is also important if you itend to change the dictionary later by adding or removing items: they won't be inserted in key order but at the end of dictionary.

Then you are assigning new array reference to a, if reference in a is already assigned to any other variable, then it will not empty that array too and hence garbage collector will not collect that memory.

a.length = 0;

When we specify a.length, we are just resetting boundaries of the array and memory for rest array elements will be connected by garbage collector.

Matching special characters and letters in regex

Well, why not just add them to your existing character class?

If you need to check whether a string consists of nothing but those characters you have to anchor the expression as well:

The added ^ and $ match the beginning and end of the string respectively.

Testing for letters, numbers or underscore can be done with \w which shortens your expression:

At least it does when using OpenReadAsync; for other xxxAsync methods, careful testing would be highly recommended. The framework calls GetWebResponse somewhere along the code path; all one needs to do is capture and cache the response object.

The fallback code is 200 in this snippet because genuine HTTP errors - 500, 404, etc - are reported as exceptions anyway. The purpose of this trick is to capture non-error codes, in my specific case 304 (Not modified). So the fallback assumes that if the status code is somehow unavailable, at least it's a non-erroneous one.

I was getting the same the error inside a shared function, but it was only happening for some calls to this shared function. I eventually realized that one of classes calling the shared function wasn't wrapping it inside of a Unit of Work. Once I updated this classes functions with a Unit of Work everything worked as expected.

So just posting this for any future visitors who run into this same error, but for whom the accepted answer doesn't apply.

Well, you have some options.

You could configure sudo to not prompt for a password. This is not recommended, due to the security risks.

You could write an expect script to read the password and supply it to sudo when required, but that's clunky and fragile.

I would recommend designing the script to run as root and drop its privileges whenever they're not needed. Simply have it sudo -u someotheruser command for the commands that don't require root.

(If they have to run specifically as the user invoking the script, then you could have the script save the uid and invoke a second script via sudo with the id as an argument, so it knows who to su to..)
