what does "error : a nonstatic member reference must be relative to a specific object" mean?

CPMSifDlg::EncodeAndSend() method is declared as non-static and thus it must be called using an object of CPMSifDlg. e.g.

CPMSifDlg obj;
return obj.EncodeAndSend(firstName, lastName, roomNumber, userId, userFirstName, userLastName);

If EncodeAndSend doesn't use/relate any specifics of an object (i.e. this) but general for the class CPMSifDlg then declare it as static:

class CPMSifDlg {
...
  static int EncodeAndSend(...);
  ^^^^^^
};

How do I access ViewBag from JS

if you are using razor engine template then do the following

in your view write :

<script> var myJsVariable = '@ViewBag.MyVariable' </script>

UPDATE: A more appropriate approach is to define a set of configuration on the master layout for example, base url, facebook API Key, Amazon S3 base URL, etc ...```

<head>
 <script>
   var AppConfig = @Html.Raw(Json.Encode(new {
    baseUrl: Url.Content("~"),
    fbApi: "get it from db",
    awsUrl: "get it from db"
   }));
 </script>
</head>

And you can use it in your JavaScript code as follow:

<script>
  myProduct.fullUrl = AppConfig.awsUrl + myProduct.path;
  alert(myProduct.fullUrl);
</script>

CSS rounded corners in IE8

Internet Explorer (under version 9) does not natively support rounded corners.

There's an amazing script that will magically add it for you: CSS3 PIE.

I've used it a lot of times, with amazing results.

phpMyAdmin is throwing a #2002 cannot log in to the mysql server phpmyadmin

Did you set up the MySQL on your machine? It sounds like you're using Windows; MySQL runs as a "Service" on your machine (right-click My Computer -> Manage -> Services).

Plot correlation matrix using pandas

You can use imshow() method from matplotlib

import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.style.use('ggplot')

plt.imshow(X.corr(), cmap=plt.cm.Reds, interpolation='nearest')
plt.colorbar()
tick_marks = [i for i in range(len(X.columns))]
plt.xticks(tick_marks, X.columns, rotation='vertical')
plt.yticks(tick_marks, X.columns)
plt.show()

How to see the CREATE VIEW code for a view in PostgreSQL?

These is a little thing to point out.
Using the function pg_get_viewdef or pg_views or information_schema.views you will always get a rewrited version of your original DDL.
The rewited version may or not be the same as your originl DDL script.

If the Rule Manager rewrite your view definition your original DLL will be lost and you will able to read the only the rewrited version of your view definition.
Not all views are rewrited but if you use sub-select or joins probably your views will be rewrited.

Django: Model Form "object has no attribute 'cleaned_data'"

For some reason, you're re-instantiating the form after you check is_valid(). Forms only get a cleaned_data attribute when is_valid() has been called, and you haven't called it on this new, second instance.

Just get rid of the second form = SearchForm(request.POST) and all should be well.

Multiline for WPF TextBox

Also, if, like me, you add controls directly in XAML (not using the editor), you might get frustrated that it won't stretch to the available height, even after setting those two properties.

To make the TextBox stretch, set the Height="Auto".

UPDATE:

In retrospect, I think this must have been necessary thanks to a default style for TextBoxes specifying the height to some standard for the application somewhere in the App resources. It may be worthwhile checking this if this helped you.

How to delete the first row of a dataframe in R?

No one probably really wants to remove row one. So if you are looking for something meaningful, that is conditional selection

#remove rows that have long length and "0" value for vector E

>> setNew<-set[!(set$length=="long" & set$E==0),]

How to select following sibling/xml tag using xpath

For completeness - adding to accepted answer above - in case you are interested in any sibling regardless of the element type you can use variation:

How to add a named sheet at the end of all Excel sheets?

This will give you the option to:

  1. Overwrite or Preserve a tab that has the same name.
  2. Place the sheet at End of all tabs or Next to the current tab.
  3. Select your New sheet or the Active one.

Call CreateWorksheet("New", False, False, False)

Sub CreateWorksheet(sheetName, preserveOldSheet, isLastSheet, selectActiveSheet)
  activeSheetNumber = Sheets(ActiveSheet.Name).Index

  If (Evaluate("ISREF('" & sheetName & "'!A1)")) Then 'Does sheet exist?
    If (preserveOldSheet) Then
      MsgBox ("Can not create sheet " + sheetName + ". This sheet exist.")
      Exit Sub
    End If
      Application.DisplayAlerts = False
      Worksheets(sheetName).Delete
    End If

    If (isLastSheet) Then
      Sheets.Add(After:=Sheets(Sheets.Count)).Name = sheetName 'Place sheet at the end.
    Else 'Place sheet after the active sheet.
      Sheets.Add(After:=Sheets(activeSheetNumber)).Name = sheetName
    End If

    If (selectActiveSheet) Then
      Sheets(activeSheetNumber).Activate

How do I grant myself admin access to a local SQL Server instance?

Yes - it appears you forgot to add yourself to the sysadmin role when installing SQL Server. If you are a local administrator on your machine, this blog post can help you use SQLCMD to get your account into the SQL Server sysadmin group without having to reinstall. It's a bit of a security hole in SQL Server, if you ask me, but it'll help you out in this case.

Stretch and scale CSS background

Add a background-attachment line:

#background {
    background-attachment:fixed;
    width: 100%;
    height: 100%;
    position: absolute;
    margin-left: 0px;
    margin-top: 0px;
    z-index: 0;
}

.stretch {
    width:100%;
    height:auto;
}

How to add headers to OkHttp request interceptor?

Finally, I added the headers this way:

@Override
    public Response intercept(Interceptor.Chain chain) throws IOException {
        Request request = chain.request();
        Request newRequest;

        newRequest = request.newBuilder()
                .addHeader(HeadersContract.HEADER_AUTHONRIZATION, O_AUTH_AUTHENTICATION)
                .addHeader(HeadersContract.HEADER_X_CLIENT_ID, CLIENT_ID)
                .build();
        return chain.proceed(newRequest);
    }

Swift's guard keyword

Guard statement going to do . it is couple of different

1) it is allow me to reduce nested if statement
2) it is increase my scope which my variable accessible

if Statement

func doTatal(num1 : Int?, num2: Int?) {
  // nested if statement
    if let fistNum = num1 where num1 > 0 {
        if let lastNum = num2 where num2 < 50 {

          let total = fistNum + lastNum
        }
    }
 // don't allow me to access out of the scope
 //total = fistNum + lastNum

Guard statement

func doTatal(num1 : Int?, num2: Int?) {

Is there a "previous sibling" selector?

I needed a solution to select the previous sibling tr. I came up with this solution using React and Styled-components. This is not my exact solution (This is from memory, hours later). I know there is a flaw in the setHighlighterRow function.

OnMouseOver a row will set the row index to state, and rerender the previous row with a new background color

class ReactClass extends Component {
  constructor() {
    this.state = {
       highlightRowIndex: null
    }
  }

  setHighlightedRow = (index) => {
    const highlightRowIndex = index === null ? null : index - 1;
    this.setState({highlightRowIndex});
  }

  render() {
    return (
       <Table>
        <Tbody>
           {arr.map((row, index) => {
                const isHighlighted = index === this.state.highlightRowIndex
                return {
                    <Trow
                        isHighlighted={isHighlighted}
                        onMouseOver={() => this.setHighlightedRow(index)}
                        onMouseOut={() => this.setHighlightedRow(null)}
                        >
                        ...
                    </Trow>
                }
           })}
        </Tbody>
       </Table>
    )
  }
}

const Trow = styled.tr`
    & td {
        background-color: ${p => p.isHighlighted ? 'red' : 'white'};
    }

    &:hover {
        background-color: red;
    }
`;

Multipart File Upload Using Spring Rest Template + Spring Web MVC

More based on the feeling, but this is the error you would get if you missed to declare a bean in the context configuration, so try adding

    <property name="maxUploadSize" value="10000000"/>
</bean>

set gvim font in .vimrc file

Although this is an old thread I thought that I would add a comment as I have come across it whilst trying to solve a similar issue; this might help anyone else who may find themselves here:

The backslash character is used to ignore the next character; once added to the font name in my gvimrc it worked; I am on a GNU/Linux machine which does not like spaces. I suspect that the initial post was an error due to the back slash being used on a windows machine.

In example:

:set guifont? ## From gvim command, would give the following:

set guifont=DejaVu Sans Mono for Powerline 11

Where as I needed to add this line to the gvimrc file for it to be read:

set guifont=DejaVu\ Sans\ Mono\ for\ Powerline\ 11

Removing double quotes from a string in Java

You can just go for String replace method.-

React Native Error: ENOSPC: System limit for number of file watchers reached

I encountered this issue on a linuxmint distro. It appeared to have happened when there was so many folders and subfolders/files I added to the /public folder in my app. I applied this fix and it worked well...

$ echo fs.inotify.max_user_watches=524288 | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf

change directory into the /etc folder: cd /etc

then run this: sudo systcl -p

You may have to close your terminal and npm start again to get it to work.

If this fails i recommend installing react-scripts globally and running your application directly with that.

$ npm i -g --save react-scripts

then instead of npm start run react-scripts start to run your application.

java.nio.file.Path for a classpath resource

It turns out you can do this, with the help of the built-in Zip File System provider. However, passing a resource URI directly to Paths.get won't work; instead, one must first create a zip filesystem for the jar URI without the entry name, then refer to the entry in that filesystem:

static Path resourceToPath(URL resource)
throws IOException,
       URISyntaxException {

    Objects.requireNonNull(resource, "Resource URL cannot be null");
    URI uri = resource.toURI();

    String scheme = uri.getScheme();
    if (scheme.equals("file")) {
        return Paths.get(uri);
    }

    if (!scheme.equals("jar")) {
        throw new IllegalArgumentException("Cannot convert to Path: " + uri);
    }

    String s = uri.toString();
    int separator = s.indexOf("!/");
    String entryName = s.substring(separator + 2);
    URI fileURI = URI.create(s.substring(0, separator));

    FileSystem fs = FileSystems.newFileSystem(fileURI,
        Collections.<String, Object>emptyMap());
    return fs.getPath(entryName);
}

Update:

It’s been rightly pointed out that the above code contains a resource leak, since the code opens a new FileSystem object but never closes it. The best approach is to pass a Consumer-like worker object, much like how Holger’s answer does it. Open the ZipFS FileSystem just long enough for the worker to do whatever it needs to do with the Path (as long as the worker doesn’t try to store the Path object for later use), then close the FileSystem.

Changing navigation bar color in Swift

The appearance() function not always work for me. So I prefer to create a NC object and change its attributes.

var navBarColor = navigationController!.navigationBar
navBarColor.barTintColor =
    UIColor(red:  255/255.0, green: 0/255.0, blue: 0/255.0, alpha: 100.0/100.0)
navBarColor.titleTextAttributes =
    [NSForegroundColorAttributeName: UIColor.whiteColor()]

Also if you want to add an image instead of just text, that works as well

var imageView = UIImageView(frame: CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: 70, height: 70))
imageView.contentMode = .ScaleAspectFit

var image = UIImage(named: "logo")
imageView.image = image
navigationItem.titleView = imageView

Calculating and printing the nth prime number

You are trying to do too much in the main method. You need to break this up into more manageable parts. Write a method boolean isPrime(int n) that returns true if a number is prime, and false otherwise. Then modify the main method to use isPrime.

Convert hex string to int in Python

Without the 0x prefix, you need to specify the base explicitly, otherwise there's no way to tell:

x = int("deadbeef", 16)

With the 0x prefix, Python can distinguish hex and decimal automatically.

>>> print(int("0xdeadbeef", 0))
3735928559
>>> print(int("10", 0))
10

(You must specify 0 as the base in order to invoke this prefix-guessing behavior; if you omit the second parameter int() will assume base-10.)

Angular : Manual redirect to route

Angular routing : Manual navigation

First you need to import the angular router :

import {Router} from "@angular/router"

Then inject it in your component constructor :

constructor(private router: Router) { }

And finally call the .navigate method anywhere you need to "redirect" :

this.router.navigate(['/your-path'])

You can also put some parameters on your route, like user/5 :

this.router.navigate(['/user', 5])

Display Adobe pdf inside a div

may be you can do by using AJAX or jquery...
just send that file url on one page and then open like normally open pdf file in that page and use ajax.

1)so as soon as user will click on the button. then u call that function in which u above tast. So by this way there will be only one page and by that you can show as many pdf without refreshing page.

2) if u don't have many pdf and if u don't know then just upload that file on google docs and then just put the share link file....and then just use ajax or jquery.

i prefer jquery if u don't have use AJAX.

How to truncate text in Angular2?

Limit length based on words

Try this one, if you want to truncate based on Words instead of characters while also allowing an option to see the complete text.

Came here searching for a Read More solution based on words, sharing the custom Pipe i ended up writing.

Pipe:

import { Pipe, PipeTransform } from '@angular/core';

@Pipe({
  name: 'readMore'
})
export class ReadMorePipe implements PipeTransform {

  transform(text: any, length: number = 20, showAll: boolean = false, suffix: string = '...'): any {

    if (showAll) {
      return text;
    }

    if ( text.split(" ").length > length ) {

      return text.split(" ").splice(0, length).join(" ") + suffix;
    }

    return text;
  }

}

In Template:

<p [innerHTML]="description | readMore:30:showAll"></p>
<button (click)="triggerReadMore()" *ngIf="!showAll">Read More<button>

Component:

export class ExamplePage implements OnInit {

    public showAll: any = false;

    triggerReadMore() {
        this.showAll = true;
    }

}

In Module:

import { ReadMorePipe } from '../_helpers/read-more.pipe';

@NgModule({
  declarations: [ReadMorePipe]
})
export class ExamplePageModule {}

Using ListView : How to add a header view?

You can add as many headers as you like by calling addHeaderView() multiple times. You have to do it before setting the adapter to the list view.

And yes you can add header something like this way:

LayoutInflater inflater = getLayoutInflater();
ViewGroup header = (ViewGroup)inflater.inflate(R.layout.header, myListView, false);
myListView.addHeaderView(header, null, false);

Difference between "enqueue" and "dequeue"

Some of the basic data structures in programming languages such as C and C++ are stacks and queues.

The stack data structure follows the "First In Last Out" policy (FILO) where the first element inserted or "pushed" into a stack is the last element that is removed or "popped" from the stack.

Similarly, a queue data structure follows a "First In First Out" policy (as in the case of a normal queue when we stand in line at the counter), where the first element is pushed into the queue or "Enqueued" and the same element when it has to be removed from the queue is "Dequeued".

This is quite similar to push and pop in a stack, but the terms enqueue and dequeue avoid confusion as to whether the data structure in use is a stack or a queue.

Class coders has a simple program to demonstrate the enqueue and dequeue process. You could check it out for reference.

writing to serial port from linux command line

SCREEN:

NOTE: screen is actually not able to send hex, as far as I know. To do that, use echo or printf

I was using the suggestions in this post to write to a serial port, then using the info from another post to read from the port, with mixed results. I found that using screen is an "easier" solution, since it opens a terminal session directly with that port. (I put easier in quotes, because screen has a really weird interface, IMO, and takes some further reading to figure it out.)

You can issue this command to open a screen session, then anything you type will be sent to the port, plus the return values will be printed below it:

screen /dev/ttyS0 19200,cs8

(Change the above to fit your needs for speed, parity, stop bits, etc.) I realize screen isn't the "linux command line" as the post specifically asks for, but I think it's in the same spirit. Plus, you don't have to type echo and quotes every time.

ECHO:

Follow praetorian droid's answer. HOWEVER, this didn't work for me until I also used the cat command (cat < /dev/ttyS0) while I was sending the echo command.

PRINTF:

I found that one can also use printf's '%x' command:

c="\x"$(printf '%x' 0x12)
printf $c >> $SERIAL_COMM_PORT

Again, for printf, start cat < /dev/ttyS0 before sending the command.

Laravel 4 with Sentry 2 add user to a group on Registration

Somehow, where you are using Sentry, you're not using its Facade, but the class itself. When you call a class through a Facade you're not really using statics, it's just looks like you are.

Do you have this:

use Cartalyst\Sentry\Sentry;

In your code?

Ok, but if this line is working for you:

$user = $this->sentry->register(array(     'username' => e($data['username']),     'email' => e($data['email']),      'password' => e($data['password'])     ));

So you already have it instantiated and you can surely do:

$adminGroup = $this->sentry->findGroupById(5);

CSS: Fix row height

I haven't tried it but if you put a div in your table cell set so that it will have scrollbars if needed, then you could insert in there, with a fixed height on the div and it should keep your table row to a fixed height.

What's the difference between '$(this)' and 'this'?

When using jQuery, it is advised to use $(this) usually. But if you know (you should learn and know) the difference, sometimes it is more convenient and quicker to use just this. For instance:

$(".myCheckboxes").change(function(){
    if(this.checked)
       alert("checked");
});

is easier and purer than

$(".myCheckboxes").change(function(){
      if($(this).is(":checked"))
         alert("checked");
});

Update statement using with clause

If anyone comes here after me, this is the answer that worked for me.

NOTE: please make to read the comments before using this, this not complete. The best advice for update queries I can give is to switch to SqlServer ;)

update mytable t
set z = (
  with comp as (
    select b.*, 42 as computed
    from mytable t
    where bs_id = 1
  )
  select c.computed
  from  comp c
  where c.id = t.id
)

How to check identical array in most efficient way?

So, what's wrong with checking each element iteratively?

Is there a way to add/remove several classes in one single instruction with classList?

You can do like below

Add

elem.classList.add("first", "second", "third");

Remove

elem.classList.remove("first", "second", "third");

Reference

TLDR;

In straight forward case above removal should work. But in case of removal, you should make sure class exists before you remove them

const classes = ["first","second","third"];
classes.forEach(c => {
  if (elem.classList.contains(c)) {
     element.classList.remove(c);
  }
})

How do I convert a byte array to Base64 in Java?

Java 8+

Encode or decode byte arrays:

byte[] encoded = Base64.getEncoder().encode("Hello".getBytes());
println(new String(encoded));   // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

byte[] decoded = Base64.getDecoder().decode(encoded);
println(new String(decoded))    // Outputs "Hello"

Or if you just want the strings:

String encoded = Base64.getEncoder().encodeToString("Hello".getBytes());
println(encoded);   // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

String decoded = new String(Base64.getDecoder().decode(encoded.getBytes()));
println(decoded)    // Outputs "Hello"

For more info, see Base64.

Java < 8

Base64 is not bundled with Java versions less than 8. I recommend using Apache Commons Codec.

For direct byte arrays:

Base64 codec = new Base64();
byte[] encoded = codec.encode("Hello".getBytes());
println(new String(encoded));   // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

byte[] decoded = codec.decode(encoded);
println(new String(decoded))    // Outputs "Hello"

Or if you just want the strings:

Base64 codec = new Base64();
String encoded = codec.encodeBase64String("Hello".getBytes());
println(encoded);   // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

String decoded = new String(codec.decodeBase64(encoded));
println(decoded)    // Outputs "Hello"

Spring

If you're working in a Spring project already, you may find their org.springframework.util.Base64Utils class more ergonomic:

For direct byte arrays:

byte[] encoded = Base64Utils.encode("Hello".getBytes());
println(new String(encoded))    // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

byte[] decoded = Base64Utils.decode(encoded);
println(new String(decoded))    // Outputs "Hello"

Or if you just want the strings:

String encoded = Base64Utils.encodeToString("Hello".getBytes());
println(encoded);   // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

String decoded = Base64Utils.decodeFromString(encoded);
println(new String(decoded))    // Outputs "Hello"

Android (with Java < 8)

If you are using the Android SDK before Java 8 then your best option is to use the bundled android.util.Base64.

For direct byte arrays:

byte[] encoded = Base64.encode("Hello".getBytes());
println(new String(encoded))    // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

byte [] decoded = Base64.decode(encoded);
println(new String(decoded))    // Outputs "Hello"

Or if you just want the strings:

String encoded = Base64.encodeToString("Hello".getBytes());
println(encoded);   // Outputs "SGVsbG8="

String decoded = new String(Base64.decode(encoded));
println(decoded)    // Outputs "Hello"

The developers of this app have not set up this app properly for Facebook Login?

Hemang's answer was right, BUT, there's one extra step you'll need, which is to add a Facebook App ID. (I discovered I was missing this part): enter image description here

Once you've done that in addition to Hemang's answer, you'll be good to go!

How to call a Web Service Method?

The current way to do this is by using the "Add Service Reference" command. If you specify "TestUploaderWebService" as the service reference name, that will generate the type TestUploaderWebService.Service1. That class will have a method named GetFileListOnWebServer, which will return an array of strings (you can change that to be a list of strings if you like). You would use it like this:

string[] files = null;
TestUploaderWebService.Service1 proxy = null;
bool success = false;
try
{
    proxy = new TestUploaderWebService.Service1();
    files = proxy.GetFileListOnWebServer();
    proxy.Close();
    success = true;
}
finally
{
    if (!success)
    {
        proxy.Abort();
    }
}

SQL Server - Adding a string to a text column (concat equivalent)

Stop using the TEXT data type in SQL Server!

It's been deprecated since the 2005 version. Use VARCHAR(MAX) instead, if you need more than 8000 characters.

The TEXT data type doesn't support the normal string functions, while VARCHAR(MAX) does - your statement would work just fine, if you'd be using just VARCHAR types.

jQuery ui dialog change title after load-callback

I tried to implement the result of Nick which is:

$('.selectorUsedToCreateTheDialog').dialog('option', 'title', 'My New title');

But that didn't work for me because i had multiple dialogs on 1 page. In such a situation it will only set the title correct the first time. Trying to staple commands did not work:

    $("#modal_popup").html(data);
    $("#modal_popup").dialog('option', 'title', 'My New Title');
    $("#modal_popup").dialog({ width: 950, height: 550);

I fixed this by adding the title to the javascript function arguments of each dialog on the page:

function show_popup1() {
    $("#modal_popup").html(data);
    $("#modal_popup").dialog({ width: 950, height: 550, title: 'Popup Title of my First Dialog'});
}

function show_popup2() {
    $("#modal_popup").html(data);
    $("#modal_popup").dialog({ width: 950, height: 550, title: 'Popup Title of my Other Dialog'});
}

calculate the mean for each column of a matrix in R

Simple argparse example wanted: 1 argument, 3 results

Note the Argparse Tutorial in Python HOWTOs. It starts from most basic examples, like this one:

import argparse
parser = argparse.ArgumentParser()
parser.add_argument("square", type=int,
                    help="display a square of a given number")
args = parser.parse_args()
print(args.square**2)

and progresses to less basic ones.

There is an example with predefined choice for an option, like what is asked:

import argparse
parser = argparse.ArgumentParser()
parser.add_argument("square", type=int,
                    help="display a square of a given number")
parser.add_argument("-v", "--verbosity", type=int, choices=[0, 1, 2],
                    help="increase output verbosity")
args = parser.parse_args()
answer = args.square**2
if args.verbosity == 2:
    print("the square of {} equals {}".format(args.square, answer))
elif args.verbosity == 1:
    print("{}^2 == {}".format(args.square, answer))
else:
    print(answer)

Why can't I set text to an Android TextView?

I was having a similar problem, however my program would crash when I tried to set the text. I was attempting to set the text value from within a class that extends AsyncTask, and that was what was causing the problem.

To resolve it, I moved my setText to the onPostExecute method

protected void onPostExecute(Void result) {
    super.onPostExecute(result);

    TextView text = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.errorsToday);
    text.setText("new string value");
}

Easiest way to copy a table from one database to another?

If your tables are on the same mysql server you can run the following

ALTER TABLE destination_db.my_table MODIFY COLUMN id INT AUTO_INCREMENT;

Using PHP to upload file and add the path to MySQL database

First you should use print_r($_FILES) to debug, and see what it contains. :

your uploads.php would look like:

$target = "pics/";
$target = $target . basename( $_FILES['Filename']['name']);

//This gets all the other information from the form
$Filename=basename( $_FILES['Filename']['name']);
$Description=$_POST['Description'];

//Writes the Filename to the server
if(move_uploaded_file($_FILES['Filename']['tmp_name'], $target)) {
    //Tells you if its all ok
    echo "The file ". basename( $_FILES['Filename']['name']). " has been uploaded, and your information has been added to the directory";
    // Connects to your Database
    mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error()) ;
    mysql_select_db("altabotanikk") or die(mysql_error()) ;

    //Writes the information to the database
    mysql_query("INSERT INTO picture (Filename,Description)
    VALUES ('$Filename', '$Description')") ;
} else {
    //Gives and error if its not
    echo "Sorry, there was a problem uploading your file.";

@Media min-width & max-width

The underlying issue is using max-device-width vs plain old max-width.

Using the "device" keyword targets physical dimension of the screen, not the width of the browser window.

For example:

@media only screen and (max-device-width: 480px) {
    /* STYLES HERE for DEVICES with physical max-screen width of 480px */
}

Versus

@media only screen and (max-width: 480px) {
    /* STYLES HERE for BROWSER WINDOWS with a max-width of 480px.
       This will work on desktops when the window is narrowed. */
}

Exporting data In SQL Server as INSERT INTO

If you are running SQL Server 2008 R2 the built in options on to do this in SSMS as marc_s described above changed a bit. Instead of selecting Script data = true as shown in his diagram, there is now a new option called "Types of data to script" just above the "Table/View Options" grouping. Here you can select to script data only, schema and data or schema only. Works like a charm.

Edit a text file on the console using Powershell

If you use Windows container and you want change any file, you can get and use Vim in Powershell console easily.

To shelled to the Windows Docker container with PowerShell:

docker exec -it <name> powershell

  • First get Chocolatey package manager

    Invoke-WebRequest https://chocolatey.org/install.ps1 -UseBasicParsing | Invoke-Expression;

  • Install Vim

    choco install vim

  • Refresh ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLE You can just exit and shell back to the container

  • Go to file location and Vim it vim file.txt

Changing all files' extensions in a folder with one command on Windows

Rename multiple file extensions:

You want to change ringtone1.mp3, ringtone2.mp3 to ringtone1.wav, ringtone2.wav

Here is how to do that: I am in d drive on command prompt (CMD) so I use:

d:\>ren *.* *.wav

This is just an example of file extensions, you can use any type of file extension like WAV, MP3, JPG, GIF, bmp, PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT this depends on what your operating system.

And, since you have thousands of files, make sure to wait until the cursor starts blinking again indicating that it's done working.

The cast to value type 'Int32' failed because the materialized value is null

I was also facing the same problem and solved through making column as nullable using "?" operator.

Sequnce = db.mstquestionbanks.Where(x => x.IsDeleted == false && x.OrignalFormID == OriginalFormIDint).Select(x=><b>(int?)x.Sequence</b>).Max().ToString();

Sometimes null is returned.

In React Native, how do I put a view on top of another view, with part of it lying outside the bounds of the view behind?

The easiest way to achieve this is with a negative margin.

const deviceWidth = RN.Dimensions.get('window').width

a: {
  alignItems: 'center',
  backgroundColor: 'blue',
  width: deviceWidth,
},
b: {
  marginTop: -16,
  marginStart: 20,
},

How do you remove all the options of a select box and then add one option and select it with jQuery?

$("#control").html("<option selected=\"selected\">The Option...</option>");

Use jQuery to navigate away from page

window.location = myUrl;

Anyway, this is not jQuery: it's plain javascript

The property 'Id' is part of the object's key information and cannot be modified

In my case, I was creating an object declared and initialized together. I just initialized in the constructor or what you can initialize the object when required.

What's the best practice for primary keys in tables?

I'll be up-front about my preference for natural keys - use them where possible, as they'll make your life of database administration a lot easier. I established a standard in our company that all tables have the following columns:

  • Row ID (GUID)
  • Creator (string; has a default of the current user's name (SUSER_SNAME() in T-SQL))
  • Created (DateTime)
  • Timestamp

Row ID has a unique key on it per table, and in any case is auto-generated per row (and permissions prevent anyone editing it), and is reasonably guaranteed to be unique across all tables and databases. If any ORM systems need a single ID key, this is the one to use.

Meanwhile, the actual PK is, if possible, a natural key. My internal rules are something like:

  • People - use surrogate key, e.g. INT. If it's internal, the Active Directory user GUID is an acceptable choice
  • Lookup tables (e.g. StatusCodes) - use a short CHAR code; it's easier to remember than INTs, and in many cases the paper forms and users will also use it for brevity (e.g. Status = "E" for "Expired", "A" for "Approved", "NADIS" for "No Asbestos Detected In Sample")
  • Linking tables - combination of FKs (e.g. EventId, AttendeeId)

So ideally you end up with a natural, human-readable and memorable PK, and an ORM-friendly one-ID-per-table GUID.

Caveat: the databases I maintain tend to the 100,000s of records rather than millions or billions, so if you have experience of larger systems which contraindicates my advice, feel free to ignore me!

Checking if a collection is null or empty in Groovy

!members.find()

I think now the best way to solve this issue is code above. It works since Groovy 1.8.1 http://docs.groovy-lang.org/docs/next/html/groovy-jdk/java/util/Collection.html#find(). Examples:

def lst1 = []
assert !lst1.find()

def lst2 = [null]
assert !lst2.find()

def lst3 = [null,2,null]
assert lst3.find()

def lst4 = [null,null,null]
assert !lst4.find()

def lst5 = [null, 0, 0.0, false, '', [], 42, 43]
assert lst5.find() == 42

def lst6 = null;
assert !lst6.find()

It appears the default setting for Adobe Reader X is for the toolbars not to be shown by default unless they are explicitly turned on by the user. And even when I turn them back on during a session, they don't show up automatically next time. As such, I suspect you have a preference set contrary to the default.

The state you desire, with the top and left toolbars not shown, is called "Read Mode". If you right-click on the document itself, and then click "Page Display Preferences" in the context menu that is shown, you'll be presented with the Adobe Reader Preferences dialog. (This is the same dialog you can access by opening the Adobe Reader application, and selecting "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.) In the list shown in the left-hand column of the Preferences dialog, select "Internet". Finally, on the right, ensure that you have the "Display in Read Mode by default" box checked:

   Adobe Reader Preferences dialog

You can also turn off the toolbars temporarily by clicking the button at the right of the top toolbar that depicts arrows pointing to opposing corners:

   Adobe Reader Read Mode toolbar button

Finally, if you have "Display in Read Mode by default" turned off, but want to instruct the page you're loading not to display the toolbars (i.e., override the user's current preferences), you can append the following to the URL:

#toolbar=0&navpanes=0

So, for example, the following code will disable both the top toolbar (called "toolbar") and the left-hand toolbar (called "navpane"). However, if the user knows the keyboard combination (F8, and perhaps other methods as well), they will still be able to turn them back on.

string url = @"http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#toolbar=0&navpanes=0";
this._WebBrowser.Navigate(url);

You can read more about the parameters that are available for customizing the way PDF files open here on Adobe's developer website.

Use :hover to modify the css of another class?

You can do this.
When hovering to the .item1, it will change the .item2 element.

Search All Fields In All Tables For A Specific Value (Oracle)

Quote:

I've tried using this statement below to find an appropriate column based on what I think it should be named but it returned no results.*

SELECT * from dba_objects WHERE
object_name like '%DTN%'

A column isn't an object. If you mean that you expect the column name to be like '%DTN%', the query you want is:

SELECT owner, table_name, column_name FROM all_tab_columns WHERE column_name LIKE '%DTN%';

But if the 'DTN' string is just a guess on your part, that probably won't help.

By the way, how certain are you that '1/22/2008P09RR8' is a value selected directly from a single column? If you don't know at all where it is coming from, it could be a concatenation of several columns, or the result of some function, or a value sitting in a nested table object. So you might be on a wild goose chase trying to check every column for that value. Can you not start with whatever client application is displaying this value and try to figure out what query it is using to obtain it?

Anyway, diciu's answer gives one method of generating SQL queries to check every column of every table for the value. You can also do similar stuff entirely in one SQL session using a PL/SQL block and dynamic SQL. Here's some hastily-written code for that:

    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON SIZE 100000

    DECLARE
      match_count INTEGER;
    BEGIN
      FOR t IN (SELECT owner, table_name, column_name
                  FROM all_tab_columns
                  WHERE owner <> 'SYS' and data_type LIKE '%CHAR%') LOOP

        EXECUTE IMMEDIATE
          'SELECT COUNT(*) FROM ' || t.owner || '.' || t.table_name ||
          ' WHERE '||t.column_name||' = :1'
          INTO match_count
          USING '1/22/2008P09RR8';

        IF match_count > 0 THEN
          dbms_output.put_line( t.table_name ||' '||t.column_name||' '||match_count );
        END IF;

      END LOOP;

    END;
    /

There are some ways you could make it more efficient too.

In this case, given the value you are looking for, you can clearly eliminate any column that is of NUMBER or DATE type, which would reduce the number of queries. Maybe even restrict it to columns where type is like '%CHAR%'.

Instead of one query per column, you could build one query per table like this:

SELECT * FROM table1
  WHERE column1 = 'value'
     OR column2 = 'value'
     OR column3 = 'value'
     ...
     ;

If you are working with multiple App or Web.Config files. eg:

enter image description here

Its likely you are using a Config that is RELEASE MODE and that will strip the Debug mode setting from the config:

Change the Config to one that doesn't remove DEBUG MODE.

Cannot set property 'display' of undefined

document.getElementsByClassName('btn-pageMenu') delivers a nodeList. You should use: document.getElementsByClassName('btn-pageMenu')[0].style.display (if it's the first element from that list you want to change.

If you want to change style.display for all nodes loop through the list:

var elems = document.getElementsByClassName('btn-pageMenu');
for (var i=0;i<elems.length;i+=1){
  elems[i].style.display = 'block';
}

to be complete: if you use jquery it is as simple as:

?$('.btn-pageMenu').css('display'???????????????????????????,'block');??????

How to implement a queue using two stacks?

While you will get a lot of posts related to implementing a queue with two stacks : 1. Either by making the enQueue process a lot more costly 2. Or by making the deQueue process a lot more costly

https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/queue-using-stacks/

One important way I found out from the above post was constructing queue with only stack data structure and the recursion call stack.

While one can argue that literally this is still using two stacks, but then ideally this is using only one stack data structure.

Below is the explanation of the problem:

  1. Declare a single stack for enQueuing and deQueing the data and push the data into the stack.

  2. while deQueueing have a base condition where the element of the stack is poped when the size of the stack is 1. This will ensure that there is no stack overflow during the deQueue recursion.

  3. While deQueueing first pop the data from the top of the stack. Ideally this element will be the element which is present at the top of the stack. Now once this is done, recursively call the deQueue function and then push the element popped above back into the stack.

The code will look like below:

if (s1.isEmpty())
System.out.println("The Queue is empty");
        else if (s1.size() == 1)
            return s1.pop();
        else {
            int x = s1.pop();
            int result = deQueue();
            s1.push(x);
            return result;

This way you can create a queue using a single stack data structure and the recursion call stack.

App.settings - the Angular way?

I find this Angular How-to: Editable Config Files from Microsoft Dev blogs being the best solution. You can configure dev build settings or prod build settings.

Filtering Sharepoint Lists on a "Now" or "Today"

If you want to filter only items that are less than 7 days old then you just use

Filter

  • Created

  • is greater than or equal to

  • [Today]-7

Note - the screenshot is incorrect.

New items - created in last 7 days

[Today] is fully supported in view filters in 2007 and onwards (just keep the spaces out!) and you only need to muck around with calculated columns in 2003.

Preventing console window from closing on Visual Studio C/C++ Console application

(/SUBSYSTEM:CONSOLE) did not worked for my vs2013 (I already had it).

"run without debugging" is not an options, since I do not want to switch between debugging and seeing output.

I ended with

int main() {
  ...
#if _DEBUG
  LOG_INFO("end, press key to close");
  getchar();
#endif // _DEBUG
  return 0;
}

Solution used in qtcreator pre 2.6. Now while qt is growing, vs is going other way. As I remember, in vs2008 we did not need such tricks.

How do I install Java on Mac OSX allowing version switching?

Another alternative is using SDKMAN! See https://wimdeblauwe.wordpress.com/2018/09/26/switching-between-jdk-8-and-11-using-sdkman/

First install SDKMAN: https://sdkman.io/install and then...

  1. Install Oracle JDK 8 with: sdk install java 8.0.181-oracle
  2. Install OpenJDK 11 with: sdk install java 11.0.0-open

To switch:

  • Switch to JDK 8 with sdk use java 8.0.181-oracle
  • Switch to JDK 11 with sdk use java 11.0.0-open

To set a default:

  • Default to JDK 8 with sdk default java 8.0.181-oracle
  • Default to JDK 11 with sdk default java 11.0.0-open

What are the new features in C++17?

Language features:

Templates and Generic Code

Lambda

Attributes

Syntax cleanup

Cleaner multi-return and flow control

  • Structured bindings

    • Basically, first-class std::tie with auto
    • Example:
      • const auto [it, inserted] = map.insert( {"foo", bar} );
      • Creates variables it and inserted with deduced type from the pair that map::insert returns.
    • Works with tuple/pair-likes & std::arrays and relatively flat structs
    • Actually named structured bindings in standard
  • if (init; condition) and switch (init; condition)

    • if (const auto [it, inserted] = map.insert( {"foo", bar} ); inserted)
    • Extends the if(decl) to cases where decl isn't convertible-to-bool sensibly.
  • Generalizing range-based for loops

    • Appears to be mostly support for sentinels, or end iterators that are not the same type as begin iterators, which helps with null-terminated loops and the like.
  • if constexpr

    • Much requested feature to simplify almost-generic code.

Isocpp.org has has an independent list of changes since C++14; it has been partly pillaged.

Naturally TS work continues in parallel, so there are some TS that are not-quite-ripe that will have to wait for the next iteration. The target for the next iteration is C++20 as previously planned, not C++19 as some rumors implied. C++1O has been avoided.

Initial list taken from this reddit post and this reddit post, with links added via googling or from the above isocpp.org page.

Additional entries pillaged from SD-6 feature-test list.

clang's feature list and library feature list are next to be pillaged. This doesn't seem to be reliable, as it is C++1z, not C++17.

these slides had some features missing elsewhere.

While "what was removed" was not asked, here is a short list of a few things ((mostly?) previous deprecated) that are removed in C++17 from C++:

Removed:

There were rewordings. I am unsure if these have any impact on code, or if they are just cleanups in the standard:

Papers not yet integrated into above:

  • P0505R0 (constexpr chrono)

  • P0418R2 (atomic tweaks)

  • P0512R0 (template argument deduction tweaks)

  • P0490R0 (structured binding tweaks)

  • P0513R0 (changes to std::hash)

How to insert values into the database table using VBA in MS access

You can't run two SQL statements into one like you are doing.

You can't "execute" a select query.

db is an object and you haven't set it to anything: (e.g. set db = currentdb)

In VBA integer types can hold up to max of 32767 - I would be tempted to use Long.

You might want to be a bit more specific about the date you are inserting:

INSERT INTO Test (Start_Date) VALUES ('#" & format(InDate, "mm/dd/yyyy") & "#' );"

Determining complexity for recursive functions (Big O notation)

We can prove it mathematically which is something I was missing in the above answers.

It can dramatically help you understand how to calculate any method. I recommend reading it from top to bottom to fully understand how to do it:

  1. T(n) = T(n-1) + 1 It means that the time it takes for the method to finish is equal to the same method but with n-1 which is T(n-1) and we now add + 1 because it's the time it takes for the general operations to be completed (except T(n-1)). Now, we are going to find T(n-1) as follow: T(n-1) = T(n-1-1) + 1. It looks like we can now form a function that can give us some sort of repetition so we can fully understand. We will place the right side of T(n-1) = ... instead of T(n-1) inside the method T(n) = ... which will give us: T(n) = T(n-1-1) + 1 + 1 which is T(n) = T(n-2) + 2 or in other words we need to find our missing k: T(n) = T(n-k) + k. The next step is to take n-k and claim that n-k = 1 because at the end of the recursion it will take exactly O(1) when n<=0. From this simple equation we now know that k = n - 1. Let's place k in our final method: T(n) = T(n-k) + k which will give us: T(n) = 1 + n - 1 which is exactly n or O(n).
  2. Is the same as 1. You can test it your self and see that you get O(n).
  3. T(n) = T(n/5) + 1 as before, the time for this method to finish equals to the time the same method but with n/5 which is why it is bounded to T(n/5). Let's find T(n/5) like in 1: T(n/5) = T(n/5/5) + 1 which is T(n/5) = T(n/5^2) + 1. Let's place T(n/5) inside T(n) for the final calculation: T(n) = T(n/5^k) + k. Again as before, n/5^k = 1 which is n = 5^k which is exactly as asking what in power of 5, will give us n, the answer is log5n = k (log of base 5). Let's place our findings in T(n) = T(n/5^k) + k as follow: T(n) = 1 + logn which is O(logn)
  4. T(n) = 2T(n-1) + 1 what we have here is basically the same as before but this time we are invoking the method recursively 2 times thus we multiple it by 2. Let's find T(n-1) = 2T(n-1-1) + 1 which is T(n-1) = 2T(n-2) + 1. Our next place as before, let's place our finding: T(n) = 2(2T(n-2)) + 1 + 1 which is T(n) = 2^2T(n-2) + 2 that gives us T(n) = 2^kT(n-k) + k. Let's find k by claiming that n-k = 1 which is k = n - 1. Let's place k as follow: T(n) = 2^(n-1) + n - 1 which is roughly O(2^n)
  5. T(n) = T(n-5) + n + 1 It's almost the same as 4 but now we add n because we have one for loop. Let's find T(n-5) = T(n-5-5) + n + 1 which is T(n-5) = T(n - 2*5) + n + 1. Let's place it: T(n) = T(n-2*5) + n + n + 1 + 1) which is T(n) = T(n-2*5) + 2n + 2) and for the k: T(n) = T(n-k*5) + kn + k) again: n-5k = 1 which is n = 5k + 1 that is roughly n = k. This will give us: T(n) = T(0) + n^2 + n which is roughly O(n^2).

I now recommend reading the rest of the answers which now, will give you a better perspective. Good luck winning those big O's :)

What is the difference between H.264 video and MPEG-4 video?

They are names for the same standard from two different industries with different naming methods, the guys who make & sell movies and the guys who transfer the movies over the internet. Since 2003: "MPEG 4 Part 10" = "H.264" = "AVC". Before that the relationship was a little looser in that they are not equal but an "MPEG 4 Part 2" decoder can render a stream that's "H.263". The Next standard is "MPEG H Part 2" = "H.265" = "HEVC"

Oracle DateTime in Where Clause?

This is because a DATE column in Oracle also contains a time part. The result of the to_date() function is a date with the time set to 00:00:00 and thus it probably doesn't match any rows in the table.

You should use:

SELECT EMP_NAME, DEPT
FROM EMPLOYEE
WHERE trunc(TIME_CREATED) = TO_DATE('26/JAN/2011','dd/mon/yyyy')

=LOOKUP(LOWER(LEFT($T$3, 1)),  {"l","m","s"}, {1,0,-1})

I was initially thinking the last value might turn out to be a default, so I wanted the zero at the last place. That doesn't seem to be the behavior anyway, so I just put the possible matches in order, and it worked.

Edit: As a final note, I see that the example in the original post has letters in alphabetical order, but I imagine the real use case might have been different if the error was happening and the letters A, B, and C were just examples.

How to insert a row in an HTML table body in JavaScript

I think this script is what exactly you need

var t = document.getElementById('myTable');
var r =document.createElement('TR');
t.tBodies[0].appendChild(r)

What is the difference between encrypting and signing in asymmetric encryption?

You are describing exactly how and why signing is used in public key cryptography. Note that it's very dangerous to sign (or encrypt) aritrary messages supplied by others - this allows attacks on the algorithms that could compromise your keys.

What's the difference between git reset --mixed, --soft, and --hard?

Please be aware, this is a simplified explanation intended as a first step in seeking to understand this complex functionality.

May be helpful for visual learners who want to visualise what their project state looks like after each of these commands:

Given: - A - B - C (master)

For those who use Terminal with colour turned on (git config --global color.ui auto):

git reset --soft A and you will see B and C's stuff in green (staged and ready to commit)

git reset --mixed A (or git reset A) and you will see B and C's stuff in red (unstaged and ready to be staged (green) and then committed)

git reset --hard A and you will no longer see B and C's changes anywhere (will be as if they never existed)

Or for those who use a GUI program like 'Tower' or 'SourceTree'

git reset --soft A and you will see B and C's stuff in the 'staged files' area ready to commit

git reset --mixed A (or git reset A) and you will see B and C's stuff in the 'unstaged files' area ready to be moved to staged and then committed

git reset --hard A and you will no longer see B and C's changes anywhere (will be as if they never existed)

Expected BEGIN_ARRAY but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 2

Response you are getting is in object form i.e.

Post post = gson.fromJson(reader, Post.class);

Access Controller method from another controller in Laravel 5

If you need that method in another controller, that means you need to abstract it and make it reusable. Move that implementation into a service class (ReportingService or something similar) and inject it into your controllers.

Example:

class ReportingService
{
  public function getPrintReport()
  {
    // your implementation here.
  }
}
// don't forget to import ReportingService at the top (use Path\To\Class)
class SubmitPerformanceController extends Controller
{
  protected $reportingService;
  public function __construct(ReportingService $reportingService)
  {
     $this->reportingService = $reportingService;
  }

  public function reports()
  {
    // call the method
    $this->reportingService->getPrintReport();
    // rest of the code here
  }
}

Do the same for the other controllers where you need that implementation. Reaching for controller methods from other controllers is a code smell.

How to deal with "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space" error?

I would like to add recommendations from oracle trouble shooting article.

Exception in thread thread_name: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

The detail message Java heap space indicates object could not be allocated in the Java heap. This error does not necessarily imply a memory leak

Possible causes:

  1. Simple configuration issue, where the specified heap size is insufficient for the application.

  2. Application is unintentionally holding references to objects, and this prevents the objects from being garbage collected.

  3. Excessive use of finalizers.

One other potential source of this error arises with applications that make excessive use of finalizers. If a class has a finalize method, then objects of that type do not have their space reclaimed at garbage collection time

After garbage collection, the objects are queued for finalization, which occurs at a later time. finalizers are executed by a daemon thread that services the finalization queue. If the finalizer thread cannot keep up with the finalization queue, then the Java heap could fill up and this type of OutOfMemoryError exception would be thrown.

One scenario that can cause this situation is when an application creates high-priority threads that cause the finalization queue to increase at a rate that is faster than the rate at which the finalizer thread is servicing that queue.

Enabling refreshing for specific html elements only

try to empty your innerHtml everytime. just like this:

Using getResources() in non-activity class

In simple class declare context and get data from file from res folder

public class FileData
{
      private Context context;

        public FileData(Context current){
            this.context = current;
        }
        void  getData()
        {
        InputStream in = context.getResources().openRawResource(R.raw.file11);
        BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in));
        //write stuff to get Data

        }
}

In the activity class declare like this

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity
{
 protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
        FileData fileData=new FileData(this);
     }

}

Are the decimal places in a CSS width respected?

The width will be rounded to an integer number of pixels.

I don't know if every browser will round it the same way though. They all seem to have a different strategy when rounding sub-pixel percentages. If you're interested in the details of sub-pixel rounding in different browsers, there's an excellent article on ElastiCSS.

edit: I tested @Skilldrick's demo in some browsers for the sake of curiosity. When using fractional pixel values (not percentages, they work as suggested in the article I linked) IE9p7 and FF4b7 seem to round to the nearest pixel, while Opera 11b, Chrome 9.0.587.0 and Safari 5.0.3 truncate the decimal places. Not that I hoped that they had something in common after all...

How to compile without warnings being treated as errors?

Remove -Werror from your Make or CMake files, as suggested in this post

REST response code for invalid data

If the request could not be correctly parsed (including the request entity/body) the appropriate response is 400 Bad Request [1].

RFC 4918 states that 422 Unprocessable Entity is applicable when the request entity is syntactically well-formed, but semantically erroneous. So if the request entity is garbled (like a bad email format) use 400; but if it just doesn't make sense (like @example.com) use 422.

If the issue is that, as stated in the question, user name/email already exists, you could use 409 Conflict [2] with a description of the conflict, and a hint about how to fix it (in this case, "pick a different user name/email"). However in the spec as written, 403 Forbidden [3] can also be used in this case, arguments about HTTP Authorization notwithstanding.

412 Precondition Failed [4] is used when a precondition request header (e.g. If-Match) that was supplied by the client evaluates to false. That is, the client requested something and supplied preconditions, knowing full well that those preconditions might fail. 412 should never be sprung on the client out of the blue, and shouldn't be related to the request entity per se.

Base table or view not found: 1146 Table Laravel 5

I also had this problem when doing migration => after performing php artisan migrate:refresh --seed command

"Base table or view not found: 1146 Table posts do not exist" and I solved it, I was using "soft deletes" in a separate migration file, and my original migration for "posts" table which was responsible for creating the "posts" table was performing after the "soft deletes" migration in the database\migration folder, I simply needed to rename the "posts" migration file name and put it before "softdeletes" migration to perform sooner. the do the migration again => php artisan migrate:refresh --seed it's done.

Using RegEX To Prefix And Append In Notepad++

Regular Expression that can be used:

Find: \w.+
Replace: able:"$&"

As, $& will give you the string you search for.

break out of if and foreach

A safer way to approach breaking a foreach or while loop in PHP is to nest an incrementing counter variable and if conditional inside of the original loop. This gives you tighter control than break; which can cause havoc elsewhere on a complicated page.

Example:

// Setup a counter
$ImageCounter = 0;

// Increment through repeater fields
while ( condition ):
  $ImageCounter++;

   // Only print the first while instance
   if ($ImageCounter == 1) {
    echo 'It worked just once';
   }

// Close while statement
endwhile;

How to check if a string in Python is in ASCII?

To prevent your code from crashes, you maybe want to use a try-except to catch TypeErrors

For example

def is_ascii(s):

Difference between malloc and calloc?

There's no difference in the size of the memory block allocated. calloc just fills the memory block with physical all-zero-bits pattern. In practice it is often assumed that the objects located in the memory block allocated with calloc have initilial value as if they were initialized with literal 0, i.e. integers should have value of 0, floating-point variables - value of 0.0, pointers - the appropriate null-pointer value, and so on.

From the pedantic point of view though, calloc (as well as memset(..., 0, ...)) is only guaranteed to properly initialize (with zeroes) objects of type unsigned char. Everything else is not guaranteed to be properly initialized and may contain so called trap representation, which causes undefined behavior. In other words, for any type other than unsigned char the aforementioned all-zero-bits patterm might represent an illegal value, trap representation.

Later, in one of the Technical Corrigenda to C99 standard, the behavior was defined for all integer types (which makes sense). I.e. formally, in the current C language you can initialize only integer types with calloc (and memset(..., 0, ...)). Using it to initialize anything else in general case leads to undefined behavior, from the point of view of C language.

In practice, calloc works, as we all know :), but whether you'd want to use it (considering the above) is up to you. I personally prefer to avoid it completely, use malloc instead and perform my own initialization.

Finally, another important detail is that calloc is required to calculate the final block size internally, by multiplying element size by number of elements. While doing that, calloc must watch for possible arithmetic overflow. It will result in unsuccessful allocation (null pointer) if the requested block size cannot be correctly calculated. Meanwhile, your malloc version makes no attempt to watch for overflow. It will allocate some "unpredictable" amount of memory in case overflow happens.

Best Way to View Generated Source of Webpage?

I know this is an old post, but I just found this piece of gold. This is old (2006), but still works with IE9. I personnally added a bookmark with this.

Just copy paste this in your browser's address bar:

javascript:void(window.open("javascript:document.open(\"text/plain\");document.write(opener.document.body.parentNode.outerHTML)"))

As for firefox, web developper tool bar does the job. I usually use this, but sometimes, some dirty 3rd party asp.net controls generates differents markups based on the user agent...

EDIT

As Bryan pointed in the comment, some browser remove the javascript: part when copy/pasting in url bar. I just tested and that's the case with IE10.

What requests do browsers' "F5" and "Ctrl + F5" refreshes generate?

It is up to the browser but they behave in similar ways.

I have tested FF, IE7, Opera and Chrome.

F5 usually updates the page only if it is modified. The browser usually tries to use all types of cache as much as possible and adds an "If-modified-since" header to the request. Opera differs by sending a "Cache-Control: no-cache".

CTRL-F5 is used to force an update, disregarding any cache. IE7 adds an "Cache-Control: no-cache", as does FF, which also adds "Pragma: no-cache". Chrome does a normal "If-modified-since" and Opera ignores the key.

If I remember correctly it was Netscape which was the first browser to add support for cache-control by adding "Pragma: No-cache" when you pressed CTRL-F5.

Edit: Updated table

The table below is updated with information on what will happen when the browser's refresh-button is clicked (after a request by Joel Coehoorn), and the "max-age=0" Cache-control-header.

Versions tested:

  • Firefox 3.1.6 and 3.0.6 (WINXP)
  • MSIE 8.0.6001 and 7.0.5730.11 (WINXP)
  • Chrome 6.0.472.63 and 1.0.151.48 (WINXP)
  • Opera 10.62 and 9.61 (WINXP)

Notes:

  1. Version 3.0.6 sends I and C, but 3.1.6 opens the page in a new tab, making a normal request with only "I".

  2. Version 10.62 does nothing. 9.61 might do C unless it was a typo in my old table.

Note about Chrome 6.0.472: If you do a forced reload (like CTRL-F5) it behaves like the url is internally marked to always do a forced reload. The flag is cleared if you go to the address bar and press enter.

Most Pythonic way to provide global configuration variables in config.py?

A small variation on Husky's idea that I use. Make a file called 'globals' (or whatever you like) and then define multiple classes in it, as such:

#globals.py

class dbinfo : # for database globals
    username = 'abcd'
    password = 'xyz'

class runtime :
    debug = False
    output = 'stdio'

Then, if you have two code files c1.py and c2.py, both can have at the top

import globals as gl

Now all code can access and set values, as such:

gl.runtime.debug = False
print(gl.dbinfo.username)

People forget classes exist, even if no object is ever instantiated that is a member of that class. And variables in a class that aren't preceded by 'self.' are shared across all instances of the class, even if there are none. Once 'debug' is changed by any code, all other code sees the change.

By importing it as gl, you can have multiple such files and variables that lets you access and set values across code files, functions, etc., but with no danger of namespace collision.

This lacks some of the clever error checking of other approaches, but is simple and easy to follow.

Using Python's os.path, how do I go up one directory?

From the current file path you could use:

os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__),'..','img','banner.png')

Calculate the center point of multiple latitude/longitude coordinate pairs

Out of object in PHP. Given array of coordinate pairs, returns center.

/**
 * Calculate center of given coordinates
 * @param array $coordinates Each array of coordinate pairs
 * @return array Center of coordinates
 */
function getCoordsCenter($coordinates) {
    $lats = $lons = array();
    foreach ($coordinates as $key => $value) {
        array_push($lats, $value[0]);
        array_push($lons, $value[1]);
    }
    $minlat = min($lats);
    $maxlat = max($lats);
    $minlon = min($lons);
    $maxlon = max($lons);
    $lat = $maxlat - (($maxlat - $minlat) / 2);
    $lng = $maxlon - (($maxlon - $minlon) / 2);
    return array("lat" => $lat, "lon" => $lng);
}

MVC Return Partial View as JSON

You can extract the html string from the PartialViewResult object, similar to the answer to this thread:

Render a view as a string

PartialViewResult and ViewResult both derive from ViewResultBase, so the same method should work on both.

Using the code from the thread above, you would be able to use:

public ActionResult ReturnSpecialJsonIfInvalid(AwesomenessModel model)
{
    if (ModelState.IsValid)
    {
        if(Request.IsAjaxRequest())
            return PartialView("NotEvil", model);
        return View(model)
    }
    if(Request.IsAjaxRequest())
    {
        return Json(new { error = true, message = RenderViewToString(PartialView("Evil", model))});
    }
    return View(model);
}

@class vs. #import

for extra info about file dependencies & #import & @class check this out:

http://qualitycoding.org/file-dependencies/ itis good article

summary of the article

imports in header files:

  • #import the superclass you’re inheriting, and the protocols you’re implementing.
  • Forward-declare everything else (unless it comes from a framework with a master header).
  • Try to eliminate all other #imports.
  • Declare protocols in their own headers to reduce dependencies.
  • Too many forward declarations? You have a Large Class.

imports in implementation files:

  • Eliminate cruft #imports that aren’t used.
  • If a method delegates to another object and returns what it gets back, try to forward-declare that object instead of #importing it.
  • If including a module forces you to include level after level of successive dependencies, you may have a set of classes that wants to become a library. Build it as a separate library with a master header, so everything can be brought in as a single prebuilt chunk.
  • Too many #imports? You have a Large Class.

How to convert String to long in Java?

In case you are using the Map with out generic, then you need to convert the value into String and then try to convert to Long. Below is sample code

    Map map = new HashMap();

    map.put("name", "John");
    map.put("time", "9648512236521");
    map.put("age", "25");

    long time = Long.valueOf((String)map.get("time")).longValue() ;
    int age = Integer.valueOf((String)  map.get("aget")).intValue();
    System.out.println(time);
    System.out.println(age);

How do ports work with IPv6?

Wikipedia points out that the syntax of an IPv6 address includes colons and has a short form preventing fixed-length parsing, and therefore you have to delimit the address portion with []. This completely avoids the odd parsing errors.

In Laravel, the best way to pass different types of flash messages in the session

I came across this elegant way to flash messages. It was made by Jeffrey Way from Laracast. check it out... https://github.com/laracasts/flash

(WAMP/XAMP) send Mail using SMTP localhost

Method 1 (Preferred) - Using hMailServer

After installation, you need the following configuration to properly send mail from wampserver:

1) When you first open hMailServer Administrator, you need to add a new domain.
2) Click on the "Add Domain ..." button at the Welcome page.
3) Under the domain text field, enter your computer's IP, in this case it should be 127.0.0.1.
4) Click on the Save button.
5) Go to Settings>Protocols>SMTP and select "Delivery of Email" tab
6) Enter "localhost" in the localhost name field.
7) Click on the Save button.

If you need to send mail using a FROM addressee of another computer, you need to allow deliveries from External to External accounts. To do that, follow these steps:

1) Go to Settings>Advanced>IP Ranges and double click on "My Computer" which should have IP address of 127.0.0.1
2) Check the Allow Deliveries from External to External accounts checkbox.
3) Save settings using Save button.

(However, Windows Live/Hotmail has denied all emails coming from dynamic IPs, which most residential computers are using. The workaround is to use Gmail account )

Note to use Gmail users :

1) Go to Settings>Protocols>SMTP and select "Delivery of Email" tab
2) Enter "smtp.gmail.com" in the Remote Host name field.
3) Enter "465" as the port number
4) Check "Server requires authentication"
5) Enter gmail address in the Username
6) Enter gmail password in the password
7) Check "Use SSL"

(Note, From field doesnt function with gmail)
*p.s. For some people it might also be needed to untick everything under require SMTP authentication in :

  • for local : Settings>Advanced>IP Ranges>"My Computer"
  • for external : Settings>Advanced>IP Ranges>"Internet"

Method 2 - Using SendMail

You can use SendMail installation.

Method 3 - Using different methods

Use any of these methods.

Array to String PHP?

For store associative arrays you can use serialize:

$arr = array(
    'a' => 1,
    'b' => 2,
    'c' => 3
);

file_put_contents('stored-array.txt', serialize($arr));

And load using unserialize:

$arr = unserialize(file_get_contents('stored-array.txt'));

print_r($arr);

But if need creat dinamic .php files with array (for example config files), you can use var_export(..., true);, like this:

Save in file:

$arr = array(
    'a' => 1,
    'b' => 2,
    'c' => 3
);

$str = preg_replace('#,(\s+|)\)#', '$1)', var_export($arr, true));
$str = '<?php' . PHP_EOL . 'return ' . $str . ';';

file_put_contents('config.php', $str);

Get array values:

$arr = include 'config.php';

print_r($arr);

How do I extend a class with c# extension methods?

You cannot add methods to an existing type unless the existing type is marked as partial, you can only add methods that appear to be a member of the existing type through extension methods. Since this is the case you cannot add static methods to the type itself since extension methods use instances of that type.

There is nothing stopping you from creating your own static helper method like this:

static class DateTimeHelper
{
    public static DateTime Tomorrow
    {
        get { return DateTime.Now.AddDays(1); }
    }
}

Which you would use like this:

DateTime tomorrow = DateTimeHelper.Tomorrow;

JBoss default password

I suggest visit Add digest auth in jmx-console and read oficial documentation for Configure admin consoles, you can add more security to your JBoss AS console and at these link explains where are the role and user/pass files that you need to change this information for your server and how you can change them. Also I recommend you quit all consoles that you don't use because they can affect to application server's performance. Also there are others links about securing jmx-console that could help you, search in jboss as community site for them (I can't put them here for my actual reputation,sorry). Never you should has the password in plain text over conf/props/ files.

Sorry for my bad English and I hope my answer be useful for you.

Is this very likely to create a memory leak in Tomcat?

The key "Transactional Resources" looks like you are talking to the database without a proper transaction. Make sure transaction management is configured properly and no invocation path to the DAO exists that doesn't run under a @Transactional annotation. This can easily happen when you configured transaction management on the Controller level but are invoking DAOs in a timer or are using @PostConstruct annotations. I wrote it up here http://georgovassilis.blogspot.nl/2014/01/tomcat-spring-and-memory-leaks-when.html

Edit: It looks like this is (also?) a bug with spring-data-jpa which has been fixed with v1.4.3. I looked it up in the spring-data-jpa sources of LockModeRepositoryPostProcessor which sets the "Transactional Resources" key. In 1.4.3 it also clears the key again.

Getting the names of all files in a directory with PHP

Little something I created for this:

function getFiles($path) {
    if (is_dir($path)) {
        $files = scandir($path);
        $res = [];
        foreach ($files as $key => $file) {
            if ($file != "." && $file != "..") {
                array_push($res, $file);
            }
        }
        return $res;
    }
    return false;
}

Get loop counter/index using for…of syntax in JavaScript

In ES6, it is good to use for - of loop. You can get index in for of like this

for (let [index, val] of array.entries()) {
        // your code goes here
}

Note that Array.entries() returns an iterator, which is what allows it to work in the for-of loop; don't confuse this with Object.entries(), which returns an array of key-value pairs.

How to prevent user from typing in text field without disabling the field?

just use onkeydown="return false" to the control tag like shown below, it will not accept values from user.

    <asp:TextBox ID="txtDate" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"
ontextchanged="txtDate_TextChanged" onkeydown="return false" >
    </asp:TextBox>

Declare a const array

This is a way to do what you want:

using System;
using System.Collections.ObjectModel;
using System.Collections.Generic;

public ReadOnlyCollection<string> Titles { get { return new List<string> { "German", "Spanish", "Corrects", "Wrongs" }.AsReadOnly();}}

It is very similar to doing a readonly array.

Why binary_crossentropy and categorical_crossentropy give different performances for the same problem?

when using the categorical_crossentropy loss, your targets should be in categorical format (e.g. if you have 10 classes, the target for each sample should be a 10-dimensional vector that is all-zeros except for a 1 at the index corresponding to the class of the sample).

Concatenate columns in Apache Spark DataFrame

Another way to do it in pySpark using sqlContext...

#Suppose we have a dataframe:
df = sqlContext.createDataFrame([('row1_1','row1_2')], ['colname1', 'colname2'])

# Now we can concatenate columns and assign the new column a name
df = df.select(concat(df.colname1, df.colname2).alias('joined_colname'))

How to list files in an android directory?

Try these

 String appDirectoryName = getResources().getString(R.string.app_name);
    File directory = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() + "/" + getResources().getString(R.string.app_name));
    directory.mkdirs();
    File[] fList = directory.listFiles();
    int a = 1;
    for (int x = 0; x < fList.length; x++) {

        //txt.setText("You Have Capture " + String.valueOf(a) + " Photos");
        a++;
    }
    //get all the files from a directory
    for (File file : fList) {
        if (file.isFile()) {
            list.add(new ModelClass(file.getName(), file.getAbsolutePath()));
        }

JQuery Error: cannot call methods on dialog prior to initialization; attempted to call method 'close'

I know this is very old, but I got the same issue when I had to navigate through an angular route and the dialog is open, it remained open. So I got a workaround to call the close method in the route controller destructor. But got this above mentioned error if the dialog was not open. So the answer is if you are closing the dialog prior to initialization it will through this error. To check if the dialog is open then close it wrap your close state in this condition.

if($('#mydialog').dialog('isOpen')) { //close dialog code}

How can I pass a list as a command-line argument with argparse?

I want to handle passing multiple lists, integer values and strings.

Helpful link => How to pass a Bash variable to Python?

def main(args):
    my_args = []
    for arg in args:
        if arg.startswith("[") and arg.endswith("]"):
            arg = arg.replace("[", "").replace("]", "")
            my_args.append(arg.split(","))
        else:
            my_args.append(arg)

    print(my_args)

if __name__ == "__main__":
    import sys
    main(sys.argv[1:])

Order is not important. If you want to pass a list just do as in between "[" and "] and seperate them using a comma.

Then,

python test.py my_string 3 "[1,2]" "[3,4,5]"

Output => ['my_string', '3', ['1', '2'], ['3', '4', '5']], my_args variable contains the arguments in order.

How to get all groups that a user is a member of?

While there are many excellent answers here, there is one which I was personally looking for that was missing. Once I figured it out - I thought I should post it in case I want to find it later, or it actually manages to help someone else at some point:

Get-ADPrincipalGroupMembership username | Format-Table -auto

A second approach for presenting this is to specify the individual columns you are interested in eg:

Get-ADPrincipalGroupMembership username | select name, GroupScope, GroupCategory

This gives all the AD groups the username belongs to - but also presents all of the default properties of each group formatted nicely as a table.

The key benefit this gives you is you can see at a glance which are distribution lists, & which are Security groups. You can further see at a glance which are Universal, which are DomainLocal & which are Global.
Why would you care about this last bit?

  • Universal group is a security or distribution group that contains users, groups, and computers from any domain in its forest as members. You can give universal security groups rights and permissions on resources in any domain in the forest.
  • Global group is a group that can be used in its own domain, in member servers and in workstations of the domain, and in trusting domains. In all those locations, you can give a global group rights and permissions and the global group can become a member of local groups. However, a global group can contain user accounts that are only from its own domain.
  • Domain local group is a security or distribution group that can contain universal groups, global groups, other domain local groups from its own domain, and accounts from any domain in the forest. You can give domain local security groups rights and permissions on resources that reside only in the same domain where the domain local group is located.

Curl command line for consuming webServices?

Wrong. That doesn't work for me.

curl
-H 'SOAPACTION: "urn:samsung.com:service:MainTVAgent2:1#CheckPIN"'
-X POST

jquery <a> tag click event

That's because your hidden fields have duplicate IDs, so jQuery only returns the first in the set. Give them classes instead, like .uid and grab them via:

var uids = $(".uid").map(function() {
    return this.value;
}).get();

Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/karim79/FtcnJ/

EDIT: say your output looks like the following (notice, IDs have changed to classes)

<fieldset><legend>John Smith</legend>
<img src='foo.jpg'/><br>
<a href="#" class="aaf">add as friend</a>
<input name="uid" type="hidden" value='<?php echo $row->uid;?>' class="uid">
</fieldset>

You can target the 'uid' relative to the clicked anchor like this:

$("a.aaf").click(function() {
    alert($(this).next('.uid').val());
});

Important: do not have any duplicate IDs. They will cause problems. They are invalid, bad and you should not do it.

Creating a new ArrayList in Java

If you just want a list:

ArrayList<Class> myList = new ArrayList<Class>();

If you want an arraylist of a certain length (in this case size 10):

List<Class> myList = new ArrayList<Class>(10);

If you want to program against the interfaces (better for abstractions reasons):

List<Class> myList = new ArrayList<Class>();

Programming against interfaces is considered better because it's more abstract. You can change your Arraylist with a different list implementation (like a LinkedList) and the rest of your application doesn't need any changes.

Python Pandas : group by in group by and average?

If you want to first take mean on the combination of ['cluster', 'org'] and then take mean on cluster groups, you can use:

In [59]: (df.groupby(['cluster', 'org'], as_index=False).mean()
            .groupby('cluster')['time'].mean())
Out[59]:
cluster
1          15
2          54
3           6
Name: time, dtype: int64

If you want the mean of cluster groups only, then you can use:

In [58]: df.groupby(['cluster']).mean()
Out[58]:
              time
cluster
1        12.333333
2        54.000000
3         6.000000

You can also use groupby on ['cluster', 'org'] and then use mean():

In [57]: df.groupby(['cluster', 'org']).mean()
Out[57]:
               time
cluster org
1       a    438886

2       d      9874

Why is Event.target not Element in Typescript?

Typescript 3.2.4

For retrieving property you must cast target to appropriate data type:

e => console.log((e.target as Element).id)

Returning value that was passed into a method

Even more useful, if you have multiple parameters you can access any/all of them with:

_mock.Setup(x => x.DoSomething(It.IsAny<string>(),It.IsAny<string>(),It.IsAny<string>())
     .Returns((string a, string b, string c) => string.Concat(a,b,c));

You always need to reference all the arguments, to match the method's signature, even if you're only going to use one of them.

Regular expression for validating names and surnames?

BTW, do you plan to only permit the Latin alphabet, or do you also plan to try to validate Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, etc.?
