Programs & Examples On #Http post vars

The name/value pairs found in the body of an HTTP POST request.

Why is it that "No HTTP resource was found that matches the request URI" here?

I had that problem, if you are calling your REST Methods from another Assembly you must be sure that all your references have the same version as your main project references, otherwise will never find your controllers.

Regards.

How to add action listener that listens to multiple buttons

The problem is that button1 is a local variable. You could do it by just change the way you add the actionListener.

button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
            public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
            {
                //button is pressed
                System.out.println("You clicked the button");
            }});

Or you make button1 a global variable.

Angular 2 - Checking for server errors from subscribe

As stated in the relevant RxJS documentation, the .subscribe() method can take a third argument that is called on completion if there are no errors.

For reference:

  1. [onNext] (Function): Function to invoke for each element in the observable sequence.
  2. [onError] (Function): Function to invoke upon exceptional termination of the observable sequence.
  3. [onCompleted] (Function): Function to invoke upon graceful termination of the observable sequence.

Therefore you can handle your routing logic in the onCompleted callback since it will be called upon graceful termination (which implies that there won't be any errors when it is called).

this.httpService.makeRequest()
    .subscribe(
      result => {
        // Handle result
        console.log(result)
      },
      error => {
        this.errors = error;
      },
      () => {
        // 'onCompleted' callback.
        // No errors, route to new page here
      }
    );

As a side note, there is also a .finally() method which is called on completion regardless of the success/failure of the call. This may be helpful in scenarios where you always want to execute certain logic after an HTTP request regardless of the result (i.e., for logging purposes or for some UI interaction such as showing a modal).

Rx.Observable.prototype.finally(action)

Invokes a specified action after the source observable sequence terminates gracefully or exceptionally.

For instance, here is a basic example:

import { Observable } from 'rxjs/Rx';
import 'rxjs/add/operator/finally';

// ...

this.httpService.getRequest()
    .finally(() => {
      // Execute after graceful or exceptionally termination
      console.log('Handle logging logic...');
    })
    .subscribe (
      result => {
        // Handle result
        console.log(result)
      },
      error => {
        this.errors = error;
      },
      () => {
        // No errors, route to new page
      }
    );

Bold black cursor in Eclipse deletes code, and I don't know how to get rid of it

It sounds like you hit the "Insert" key .. in most applications this results in a fat (solid rectangle) cursor being displayed, as your screenshot suggests. This indicates that you are in overwrite mode rather than the default insert mode.

Just hit the "insert" key on your keyboard once more... it's usually near the 'delete' (not backspace), scroll lock and 'Print Screen' (often above the cursor keys in a full size keyboard.) This will switch back to insert mode and turn your cursor into a vertical line rather than a rectangle.

What is IPV6 for localhost and 0.0.0.0?

As we all know that IPv4 address for localhost is 127.0.0.1 (loopback address).

Actually, any IPv4 address in 127.0.0.0/8 is a loopback address.

In IPv6, the direct analog of the loopback range is ::1/128. So ::1 (long form 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1) is the one and only IPv6 loopback address.

While the hostname localhost will normally resolve to 127.0.0.1 or ::1, I have seen cases where someone has bound it to an IP address that is not a loopback address. This is a bit crazy ... but sometimes people do it.

I say "this is crazy" because you are liable to break applications assumptions by doing this; e.g. an application may attempt to do a reverse lookup on the loopback IP and not get the expected result. In the worst case, an application may end up sending sensitive traffic over an insecure network by accident ... though you probably need to make other mistakes as well to "achieve" that.

Blocking 0.0.0.0 makes no sense. In IPv4 it is never routed. The equivalent in IPv6 is the :: address (long form 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0) ... which is also never routed.

The 0.0.0.0 and :: addresses are reserved to mean "any address". So, for example a program that is providing a web service may bind to 0.0.0.0 port 80 to accept HTTP connections via any of the host's IPv4 addresses. These addresses are not valid as a source or destination address for an IP packet.

Finally, some comments were asking about ::/128 versus ::/0 versus ::.

What is this difference?

Strictly speaking, the first two are CIDR notation not IPv6 addresses. They are actually specifying a range of IP addresses. A CIDR consists of a IP address and an additional number that specifies the number of bits in a netmask. The two together specify a range of addresses; i.e. the set of addresses formed by ignoring the bits masked out of the given address.

So:

  • :: means just the IPv6 address 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0
  • ::/128 means 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0 with a netmask consisting of 128 bits. This gives a network range with exactly one address in it.
  • ::/0 means 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0 with a netmask consisting of 0 bits. This gives a network range with 2128 addresses in it.; i.e. it is the entire IPv6 address space!

Passing arguments to AsyncTask, and returning results

You can receive returning results like that: AsyncTask class

@Override
protected Boolean doInBackground(Void... params) {
    if (host.isEmpty() || dbName.isEmpty() || user.isEmpty() || pass.isEmpty() || port.isEmpty()) {
        try {
            throw new SQLException("Database credentials missing");
        } catch (SQLException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }

    try {
        Class.forName("org.postgresql.Driver");
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

    try {
        this.conn = DriverManager.getConnection(this.host + ':' + this.port + '/' + this.dbName, this.user, this.pass);
    } catch (SQLException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

    return true;
}

receiving class:

_store.execute();
boolean result =_store.get();

Hoping it will help.

What is http multipart request?

I have found an excellent and relatively short explanation here.

A multipart request is a REST request containing several packed REST requests inside its entity.

Use NSInteger as array index

According to the error message, you declared myLoc as a pointer to an NSInteger (NSInteger *myLoc) rather than an actual NSInteger (NSInteger myLoc). It needs to be the latter.

Getting a POST variable

Use this for GET values:

Request.QueryString["key"]

And this for POST values

Request.Form["key"]

Also, this will work if you don't care whether it comes from GET or POST, or the HttpContext.Items collection:

Request["key"]

Another thing to note (if you need it) is you can check the type of request by using:

Request.RequestType

Which will be the verb used to access the page (usually GET or POST). Request.IsPostBack will usually work to check this, but only if the POST request includes the hidden fields added to the page by the ASP.NET framework.

Unsupported Media Type in postman

Http 415 Media Unsupported is responded back only when the content type header you are providing is not supported by the application.

With POSTMAN, the Content-type header you are sending is Content type 'multipart/form-data not application/json. While in the ajax code you are setting it correctly to application/json. Pass the correct Content-type header in POSTMAN and it will work.

Add / Change parameter of URL and redirect to the new URL

I need help to adjust my script below or to find a script that could be used on my wordpress site to grab the url suffix parameters from a forward url, then to be added at the button click url for tracking the proper forward ads id.

REASON: parameters are used for advertisement tracking to find out from which ad the user has been forward, even if the user hops from optin page to the sales page by using button click.

Here the goal to reach: 1. An FB ad points to an optin page with tracking code: https://ownsite.com/optin-page/?tid=fbad1 2. At the optin-page there is a button with a setup URL to forward to the sales page, but if clicked then only the URL is forward, but the parameter "?tid=fbad1" is missing. 3. The auto-forward script below (which is working properly) can be used to change for button click forward, but has a limitation as it grab only "tid" parameters instead also utm parameters.

Therefore a script code shall be implemented to establish click buttons (also to style them or use images instead) and while clicking the button to forward to a different sales page with grabbing the suffix parameter form the current optin-page to forward then to sales-page https://ownsite.com/sales-page/?tid=fbad1 also including UTM parameters

Currently, I could have solved this by using an auto-redirect script, but A.) I do not want to use an autoredirect at this page. Better is an event click button used to let the user himself click to forward with the URL parameter included. B.) The tracking ID parameter in this script is limited to "?tid=..." instead I do also want to track the UTM code on button click also i.e. Grab from current page the paramater of URL https://www.optin-page.com/?tid=facebookad1?utm_campaign=blogpost then on button click grab parameters and add to button set URL https://www.sales-page.com/?tid=facebookad1?utm_campaign=blogpost

Please now find here the Code below in use for auto-redirect and grabbing the URL parameters. This code shall be changed now to be able to create a button with a click-event to be redirect then to the forward URL with parameter grabbing of current URL if the button is clicked (as stated above).

Check if a varchar is a number (TSQL)

How to extract svg as file from web page

When you're on a page that doesn't let you reach the SVG via its own URL (e.g. an inline SVG), you can print the page and select PDF as the target output. Once the PDF has been saved, you can open it in an image editor that supports vector (e.g. Adobe Illustrator), select only the vector art you want, and cut and paste it into a new file in the image editor.

How to declare a variable in a PostgreSQL query

You could also try this in PLPGSQL:

DO $$
DECLARE myvar integer;
BEGIN
    SELECT 5 INTO myvar;

    DROP TABLE IF EXISTS tmp_table;

    SELECT * FROM yourtable WHERE   id = myvar;
END $$;

SELECT * FROM tmp_table;

The above requires Postgres 9.0 or later.

The simplest way to comma-delimit a list?

I somewhat like this approach, which I found on a blog some time ago. Unfortunately I don't remember the blog's name/URL.

You can create a utility/helper class that looks like this:

private class Delimiter
{
    private final String delimiter;
    private boolean first = true;

    public Delimiter(String delimiter)
    {
        this.delimiter = delimiter;
    }

    @Override
    public String toString()
    {
        if (first) {
            first = false;
            return "";
        }

        return delimiter;
    }
}

Using the helper class is simple as this:

StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
Delimiter delimiter = new Delimiter(", ");

for (String item : list) {
    sb.append(delimiter);
    sb.append(item);
}

How do I use sudo to redirect output to a location I don't have permission to write to?

Maybe you been given sudo access to only some programs/paths? Then there is no way to do what you want. (unless you will hack it somehow)

If it is not the case then maybe you can write bash script:

cat > myscript.sh
#!/bin/sh
ls -hal /root/ > /root/test.out

Press ctrl + d :

chmod a+x myscript.sh
sudo myscript.sh

Hope it help.

Show all current locks from get_lock

From MySQL 5.7 onwards, this is possible, but requires first enabling the mdl instrument in the performance_schema.setup_instruments table. You can do this temporarily (until the server is next restarted) by running:

UPDATE performance_schema.setup_instruments
SET enabled = 'YES'
WHERE name = 'wait/lock/metadata/sql/mdl';

Or permanently, by adding the following incantation to the [mysqld] section of your my.cnf file (or whatever config files MySQL reads from on your installation):

[mysqld]
performance_schema_instrument = 'wait/lock/metadata/sql/mdl=ON'

(Naturally, MySQL will need to be restarted to make the config change take effect if you take the latter approach.)

Locks you take out after the mdl instrument has been enabled can be seen by running a SELECT against the performance_schema.metadata_locks table. As noted in the docs, GET_LOCK locks have an OBJECT_TYPE of 'USER LEVEL LOCK', so we can filter our query down to them with a WHERE clause:

mysql> SELECT GET_LOCK('foobarbaz', -1);
+---------------------------+
| GET_LOCK('foobarbaz', -1) |
+---------------------------+
|                         1 |
+---------------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> SELECT * FROM performance_schema.metadata_locks
    -> WHERE OBJECT_TYPE='USER LEVEL LOCK'
    -> \G
*************************** 1. row ***************************
          OBJECT_TYPE: USER LEVEL LOCK
        OBJECT_SCHEMA: NULL
          OBJECT_NAME: foobarbaz
OBJECT_INSTANCE_BEGIN: 139872119610944
            LOCK_TYPE: EXCLUSIVE
        LOCK_DURATION: EXPLICIT
          LOCK_STATUS: GRANTED
               SOURCE: item_func.cc:5482
      OWNER_THREAD_ID: 35
       OWNER_EVENT_ID: 3
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql>

The meanings of the columns in this result are mostly adequately documented at https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/en/metadata-locks-table.html, but one point of confusion is worth noting: the OWNER_THREAD_ID column does not contain the connection ID (like would be shown in the PROCESSLIST or returned by CONNECTION_ID()) of the thread that holds the lock. Confusingly, the term "thread ID" is sometimes used as a synonym of "connection ID" in the MySQL documentation, but this is not one of those times. If you want to determine the connection ID of the connection that holds a lock (for instance, in order to kill that connection with KILL), you'll need to look up the PROCESSLIST_ID that corresponds to the THREAD_ID in the performance_schema.threads table. For instance, to kill the connection that was holding my lock above...

mysql> SELECT OWNER_THREAD_ID FROM performance_schema.metadata_locks
    -> WHERE OBJECT_TYPE='USER LEVEL LOCK'
    -> AND OBJECT_NAME='foobarbaz';
+-----------------+
| OWNER_THREAD_ID |
+-----------------+
|              35 |
+-----------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> SELECT PROCESSLIST_ID FROM performance_schema.threads
    -> WHERE THREAD_ID=35;
+----------------+
| PROCESSLIST_ID |
+----------------+
|             10 |
+----------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> KILL 10;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

HttpServletRequest - how to obtain the referring URL?

It's available in the HTTP referer header. You can get it in a servlet as follows:

String referrer = request.getHeader("referer"); // Yes, with the legendary misspelling.

You, however, need to realize that this is a client-controlled value and can thus be spoofed to something entirely different or even removed. Thus, whatever value it returns, you should not use it for any critical business processes in the backend, but only for presentation control (e.g. hiding/showing/changing certain pure layout parts) and/or statistics.

For the interested, background about the misspelling can be found in Wikipedia.

Python - A keyboard command to stop infinite loop?

Ctrl+C is what you need. If it didn't work, hit it harder. :-) Of course, you can also just close the shell window.

Edit: You didn't mention the circumstances. As a last resort, you could write a batch file that contains taskkill /im python.exe, and put it on your desktop, Start menu, etc. and run it when you need to kill a runaway script. Of course, it will kill all Python processes, so be careful.

What is phtml, and when should I use a .phtml extension rather than .php?

To give an example to what Alex said, if you're using Magento, for example, .phtml files are only to be found in the /design area as template files, and contain both HTML and PHP lines. Meanwhile the PHP files are pure code and don't have any lines of HTML in them.

How to read from stdin with fgets()?

You have a wrong idea of what fgets returns. Take a look at this: http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibrary/cstdio/fgets/

It returns null when it finds an EOF character. Try running the program above and pressing CTRL+D (or whatever combination is your EOF character), and the loop will exit succesfully.

How do you want to detect the end of the input? Newline? Dot (you said sentence xD)?

ImportError: No module named scipy

I had a same problem because I installed both of python2.7 and python3. when I run program with python3 I received same error. I install scipy with this command and problem has been solved:

sudo apt-get install python3-scipy

Iterating C++ vector from the end to the beginning

I like the backwards iterator at the end of Yakk - Adam Nevraumont's answer, but it seemed complicated for what I needed, so I wrote this:

template <class T>
class backwards {
    T& _obj;
public:
    backwards(T &obj) : _obj(obj) {}
    auto begin() {return _obj.rbegin();}
    auto end() {return _obj.rend();}
};

I'm able to take a normal iterator like this:

for (auto &elem : vec) {
    // ... my useful code
}

and change it to this to iterate in reverse:

for (auto &elem : backwards(vec)) {
    // ... my useful code
}

Chart won't update in Excel (2007)

Just activate the sheet where the chart is:

Sheets(1).Activate

and your problem disappears.

I had the same problem and none of the things you mentioned in question worked for me until I just activated sheet. The accepted answer didn't work for me neither.

Alternatively you can make:

How to perform Unwind segue programmatically?

SWIFT 4:

1. Create an @IBAction with segue inside controller you want to unwind to:

    @IBAction func unwindToVC(segue: UIStoryboardSegue) {

    }

2. In the storyboard, from the controller you want to segue (unwind) from ctrl+drag from the controller sign to exit sign and choose method you created earlier:

enter image description here

3. Now you can notice that in document outline you have new line with title "Unwind segue....". Now you should click on this line and open attribute inspector to set identifier (in my case unwindSegueIdentifier).

enter image description here

4. You're almost done! Now you need to open view controller you wish to unwind from and create some method that will perform segue. For example you can add button, connect it with code with @IBAction, after that inside this IBAction add perfromSegue(withIdentifier:sender:) method:

     @IBAction func unwindToSomeVCWithSegue(_ sender: UIButton) {
         performSegue(withIdentifier: "unwindSegueIdentifier", sender: nil)
     }

So that is all you have to do!

How to get folder directory from HTML input type "file" or any other way?

Stumbled on this page as well, and then found out this is possible with just javascript (no plugins like ActiveX or Flash), but just in chrome:

https://plus.google.com/+AddyOsmani/posts/Dk5UhZ6zfF3

Basically, they added support for a new attribute on the file input element "webkitdirectory". You can use it like this:

<input type="file" id="ctrl" webkitdirectory directory multiple/>

It allows you to select directories. The multiple attribute is a good fallback for browsers that support multiple file selection but not directory selection.

When you select a directory the files are available through the dom object for the control (document.getElementById('ctrl')), just like they are with the multiple attribute. The browsers adds all files in the selected directory to that list recursively.

You can already add the directory attribute as well in case this gets standardized at some point (couldn't find any info regarding that)

How to use unicode characters in Windows command line?

For a similar problem, (my problem was to show UTF-8 characters from MySQL on a command prompt),

I solved it like this:

  1. I changed the font of command prompt to Lucida Console. (This step must be irrelevant for your situation. It has to do only with what you see on the screen and not with what is really the character).

  2. I changed the codepage to Windows-1253. You do this on the command prompt by "chcp 1253". It worked for my case where I wanted to see UTF-8.

XSLT string replace

Here is the XSLT function which will work similar to the String.Replace() function of C#.

This template has the 3 Parameters as below

text :- your main string

replace :- the string which you want to replace

by :- the string which will reply by new string

Below are the Template

<xsl:template name="string-replace-all">
  <xsl:param name="text" />
  <xsl:param name="replace" />
  <xsl:param name="by" />
  <xsl:choose>
    <xsl:when test="contains($text, $replace)">
      <xsl:value-of select="substring-before($text,$replace)" />
      <xsl:value-of select="$by" />
      <xsl:call-template name="string-replace-all">
        <xsl:with-param name="text" select="substring-after($text,$replace)" />
        <xsl:with-param name="replace" select="$replace" />
        <xsl:with-param name="by" select="$by" />
      </xsl:call-template>
    </xsl:when>
    <xsl:otherwise>
      <xsl:value-of select="$text" />
    </xsl:otherwise>
  </xsl:choose>
</xsl:template>

Below sample shows how to call it

<xsl:variable name="myVariable ">
  <xsl:call-template name="string-replace-all">
    <xsl:with-param name="text" select="'This is a {old} text'" />
    <xsl:with-param name="replace" select="'{old}'" />
    <xsl:with-param name="by" select="'New'" />
  </xsl:call-template>
</xsl:variable>

Rename Files and Directories (Add Prefix)

Thanks to Peter van der Heijden, here's one that'll work for filenames with spaces in them:

for f in * ; do mv -- "$f" "PRE_$f" ; done

("--" is needed to succeed with files that begin with dashes, whose names would otherwise be interpreted as switches for the mv command)

When to use AtomicReference in Java?

An atomic reference is ideal to use when you need to share and change the state of an immutable object between multiple threads. That is a super dense statement so I will break it down a bit.

First, an immutable object is an object that is effectively not changed after construction. Frequently an immutable object's methods return new instances of that same class. Some examples include the wrapper classes of Long and Double, as well as String, just to name a few. (According to Programming Concurrency on the JVM immutable objects are a critical part of modern concurrency).

Next, why AtomicReference is better than a volatile object for sharing that shared value. A simple code example will show the difference.

volatile String sharedValue;
static final Object lock=new Object();
void modifyString(){
  synchronized(lock){
    sharedValue=sharedValue+"something to add";
  }
}

Every time you want to modify the string referenced by that volatile field based on its current value, you first need to obtain a lock on that object. This prevents some other thread from coming in during the meantime and changing the value in the middle of the new string concatenation. Then when your thread resumes, you clobber the work of the other thread. But honestly that code will work, it looks clean, and it would make most people happy.

Slight problem. It is slow. Especially if there is a lot of contention of that lock Object. Thats because most locks require an OS system call, and your thread will block and be context switched out of the CPU to make way for other processes.

The other option is to use an AtomicRefrence.

public static AtomicReference<String> shared = new AtomicReference<>();
String init="Inital Value";
shared.set(init);
//now we will modify that value
boolean success=false;
while(!success){
  String prevValue=shared.get();
  // do all the work you need to
  String newValue=shared.get()+"lets add something";
  // Compare and set
  success=shared.compareAndSet(prevValue,newValue);
}

Now why is this better? Honestly that code is a little less clean than before. But there is something really important that happens under the hood in AtomicRefrence, and that is compare and swap. It is a single CPU instruction, not an OS call, that makes the switch happen. That is a single instruction on the CPU. And because there are no locks, there is no context switch in the case where the lock gets exercised which saves even more time!

The catch is, for AtomicReferences, this does not use a .equals() call, but instead an == comparison for the expected value. So make sure the expected is the actual object returned from get in the loop.

Javascript seconds to minutes and seconds

strftime.js (strftime github) is one of the best time formatting libraries. It's extremely light - 30KB - and effective. Using it you can convert seconds into time easily in one line of code, relying mostly on the native Date class.

When creating a new Date, each optional argument is positional as follows:

new Date(year, month, day, hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds);

So if you initialize a new Date with all arguments as zero up to the seconds, you'll get:

var seconds = 150;
var date = new Date(0,0,0,0,0,seconds);
=> Sun Dec 31 1899 00:02:30 GMT-0500 (EST)

You can see that 150 seconds is 2-minutes and 30-seconds, as seen in the date created. Then using an strftime format ("%M:%S" for "MM:SS"), it will output your minutes' string.

var mm_ss_str = strftime("%M:%S", date);
=> "02:30"

In one line, it would look like:

var mm_ss_str = strftime('%M:%S', new Date(0,0,0,0,0,seconds));
=> "02:30"

Plus this would allow you to interchangeable support HH:MM:SS and MM:SS based on the number of seconds. For example:

# Less than an Hour (seconds < 3600)
var seconds = 2435;
strftime((seconds >= 3600 ? '%H:%M:%S' : '%M:%S'), new Date(0,0,0,0,0,seconds));
=> "40:35"

# More than an Hour (seconds >= 3600)
var seconds = 10050;
strftime((seconds >= 3600 ? '%H:%M:%S' : '%M:%S'), new Date(0,0,0,0,0,seconds));
=> "02:47:30"

And of course, you can simply pass whatever format you want to strftime if you want the time string to be more or less semantic.

var format = 'Honey, you said you\'d be read in %S seconds %M minutes ago!';
strftime(format, new Date(0,0,0,0,0,1210));
=> "Honey, you said you'd be read in 10 seconds 20 minutes ago!"

Hope this helps.

What is the worst real-world macros/pre-processor abuse you've ever come across?

At the time it seemed like a good idea to "pass" a macro as an argument into another macro. (I just couldn't stand the thought of defining a list of values in multiple places.) The code here is contrived (and not very motivating), but gives you the idea:

#define ENUM_COLORS(CallbackMacro) \
    CallbackMacro(RED)   \
    CallbackMacro(GREEN) \
    CallbackMacro(BLUE)  \
    // ...

#define DEFINE_COLOR_TYPE_CALLBACK(Color) \
    Color,

enum MyColorType {
    ENUM_COLORS(DEFINE_COLOR_TYPE_CALLBACK)
};

void RegisterAllKnownColors(void)
{
#define REGISTER_COLOR_CALLBACK(Color) \
    RegisterColor(Color, #Color);

    ENUM_COLORS(REGISTER_COLOR_CALLBACK)
}

void RegisterColor(MyColorType Color, char *ColorName)
{
    // ...
}

How to position two elements side by side using CSS

Wrap the iframe in a class, float that left.

The paragraph with then be forced up and to the right as long as there is room for it. Then set your paragraph to display:inline-block, and add some left margin to tidy it up.

Convert date to YYYYMM format

Actually, this is the proper way to get what you want, unless you can use MS SQL 2014 (which finally enables custom format strings for date times).

To get yyyymm instead of yyyym, you can use this little trick:

select
 right('0000' + cast(datepart(year, getdate()) as varchar(4)), 4)
 + right('00' + cast(datepart(month, getdate()) as varchar(2)), 2)

It's faster and more reliable than gettings parts of convert(..., 112).

Should I use scipy.pi, numpy.pi, or math.pi?

>>> import math
>>> import numpy as np
>>> import scipy
>>> math.pi == np.pi == scipy.pi
True

So it doesn't matter, they are all the same value.

The only reason all three modules provide a pi value is so if you are using just one of the three modules, you can conveniently have access to pi without having to import another module. They're not providing different values for pi.

Converting a String to Object

A Java String is an Object. (String extends Object.)

So you can get an Object reference via assignment/initialisation:

Find non-ASCII characters in varchar columns using SQL Server

This script searches for non-ascii characters in one column. It generates a string of all valid characters, here code point 32 to 127. Then it searches for rows that don't match the list:

declare @str varchar(128)
declare @i int
set @str = ''
set @i = 32
while @i <= 127
    begin
    set @str = @str + '|' + char(@i)
    set @i = @i + 1
    end

select  col1
from    YourTable
where   col1 like '%[^' + @str + ']%' escape '|'

Column order manipulation using col-lg-push and col-lg-pull in Twitter Bootstrap 3

If you need to organize data in columns of 1 / 2 / 4 depending of the viewport size then push and pull may be no option at all. No matter how you order your items in the first place, one of the sizes may give you a wrong order.

A solution in this case is to use nested rows and cols without any push or pull classes.

Example

In XS you want...

A
B
C
D
E
F
G
H

In SM you want...

A   E
B   F
C   G
D   H

In MD and above you want...

A   C   E   G
B   D   F   H

Solution

Use nested two-column child elements in a surrounding two-column parent element:

Here is a working snippet:

_x000D_
_x000D_
<script src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.12.4.min.js" type="text/javascript" ></script>_x000D_
<link href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/css/bootstrap.min.css" rel="stylesheet"> _x000D_
<script src="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.3.6/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>_x000D_
_x000D_
<div class="row">_x000D_
  <div class="col-sm-6">_x000D_
    <div class="row">_x000D_
      <div class="col-md-6"><p>A</p><p>B</p></div>_x000D_
      <div class="col-md-6"><p>C</p><p>D</p></div>_x000D_
    </div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
  <div class="col-sm-6">_x000D_
    <div class="row">_x000D_
      <div class="col-md-6"><p>E</p><p>F</p></div>_x000D_
      <div class="col-md-6"><p>G</p><p>H</p></div>_x000D_
    </div>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Another beauty of this solution is, that the items appear in the code in their natural order (A, B, C, ... H) and don't have to be shuffled, which is nice for CMS generation.

How to drop a PostgreSQL database if there are active connections to it?

I noticed that postgres 9.2 now calls the column pid rather than procpid.

I tend to call it from the shell:

#!/usr/bin/env bash
# kill all connections to the postgres server
if [ -n "$1" ] ; then
  where="where pg_stat_activity.datname = '$1'"
  echo "killing all connections to database '$1'"
else
  echo "killing all connections to database"

How to remove a web site from google analytics

After Much Fannying about, deleting this that etc, I found the way to delete a "website" from your list (which is, in fact what the original question was - minus all the flaffing) is

  • Select the Account (Website) that you want to delete
  • In the first column (left hand one)
  • Click Account Settings
  • Down the bottom, it says Delete this account.

That's it… Done.

Remember: for this exercise only Account means Website.

Bootstrap button drop-down inside responsive table not visible because of scroll

This has been fixed in Bootstrap v4.1 and above by adding data-boundary="viewport" (Bootstrap Dropdowns Docs)

But for earlier versions (v4.0 and below), I found this javascript snippet that works perfectly. It works for small tables and scrolling tables:

$('.table-responsive').on('shown.bs.dropdown', function (e) {
    var t = $(this),
        m = $(e.target).find('.dropdown-menu'),
        tb = t.offset().top + t.height(),
        mb = m.offset().top + m.outerHeight(true),
        d = 20; // Space for shadow + scrollbar.
    if (t[0].scrollWidth > t.innerWidth()) {
        if (mb + d > tb) {
            t.css('padding-bottom', ((mb + d) - tb));
        }
    }
    else {
        t.css('overflow', 'visible');
    }
}).on('hidden.bs.dropdown', function () {
    $(this).css({'padding-bottom': '', 'overflow': ''});
});

What is a elegant way in Ruby to tell if a variable is a Hash or an Array?

Usually in ruby when you are looking for "type" you are actually wanting the "duck-type" or "does is quack like a duck?". You would see if it responds to a certain method:

@some_var.respond_to?(:each)

You can iterate over @some_var because it responds to :each

If you really want to know the type and if it is Hash or Array then you can do:

["Hash", "Array"].include?(@some_var.class) #=> check both through instance class
@some_var.kind_of?(Hash) #=> to check each at once
@some_var.is_a?(Array)   #=> same as kind_of

Adding gif image in an ImageView in android

As @Ahmad said in a comment, you can just use the following code to display a gif!

Just simply pop this code in the onCreate method and you're good to go! Also, place your gif inside the assets folder (if you don't have the assets folder, create one under src/main)

WebView wView = new WebView(this);
wView.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/piggy.gif");
setContentView(view);

-L dereferences symbolic links. This will also make it impossible to see any symlinks to files, though - they'll look like the pointed-to file.

Route.get() requires callback functions but got a "object Undefined"

There are two routes for get:

app.get('/', main.index);
todoRouter.get('/',todo.all);

Error: Route.get() requires callback functions but got a [object Undefined] This exception is thrown when route.getdoes not get a callback function. As you have defined todo.all in todo.js file, but it is unable to find main.index. That's why it works once you define main.index file later on in the tutorial.

jquery remove "selected" attribute of option?

It's something in the way jQuery translates to IE8, not necessarily the browser itself.

I was able to work around by going old school and breaking out of jQuery for one line:

document.getElementById('myselect').selectedIndex = -1;

Programmatically trigger "select file" dialog box

There is no cross browser way of doing it, for security reasons. What people usually do is overlay the input file over something else and set it's visibility to hidden so it gets triggered on it's own. More info here.

How to check if std::map contains a key without doing insert?

Use my_map.count( key ); it can only return 0 or 1, which is essentially the Boolean result you want.

Alternately my_map.find( key ) != my_map.end() works too.

PHP FPM - check if running

Here is how you can do it with a socket on php-fpm 7

install socat
apt-get install socat

#!/bin/sh

  if echo /dev/null | socat UNIX:/var/run/php/php7.0-fpm.sock - ; then
    echo "$home/run/php-fpm.sock connect OK"
  else
    echo "$home/run/php-fpm.sock connect ERROR"
  fi

You can also check if the service is running like this.

service php7.0-fpm status | grep running

It will return

Active: active (running) since Sun 2017-04-09 12:48:09 PDT; 48s ago

how to convert String into Date time format in JAVA?

With SimpleDateFormat. And steps are -

  1. Create your date pattern string
  2. Create SimpleDateFormat Object
  3. And parse with it.
  4. It will return Date Object.

Semaphore vs. Monitors - what's the difference?

Semaphore allows multiple threads (up to a set number) to access a shared object. Monitors allow mutually exclusive access to a shared object.

Monitor

Semaphore

Select data between a date/time range

You must search date defend on how you insert that game_date data on your database.. for example if you inserted date value on long date or short.

SELECT * FROM hockey_stats WHERE game_date >= "6/11/2018" AND game_date <= "6/17/2018"

You can also use BETWEEN:

SELECT * FROM hockey_stats WHERE game_date BETWEEN "6/11/2018" AND "6/17/2018"

simple as that.

C# SQL Server - Passing a list to a stored procedure

No, arrays/lists can't be passed to SQL Server directly.

The following options are available:

  1. Passing a comma-delimited list and then having a function in SQL split the list. The comma delimited list will most likely be passed as an Nvarchar()
  2. Pass xml and have a function in SQL Server parse the XML for each value in the list
  3. Use the new defined User Defined table type (SQL 2008)
  4. Dynamically build the SQL and pass in the raw list as "1,2,3,4" and build the SQL statement. This is prone to SQL injection attacks, but it will work.

Daemon Threads Explanation

A simpler way to think about it, perhaps: when main returns, your process will not exit if there are non-daemon threads still running.

A bit of advice: Clean shutdown is easy to get wrong when threads and synchronization are involved - if you can avoid it, do so. Use daemon threads whenever possible.

Why does the preflight OPTIONS request of an authenticated CORS request work in Chrome but not Firefox?

Why does it work in Chrome and not Firefox?

The W3 spec for CORS preflight requests clearly states that user credentials should be excluded. There is a bug in Chrome and WebKit where OPTIONS requests returning a status of 401 still send the subsequent request.

Firefox has a related bug filed that ends with a link to the W3 public webapps mailing list asking for the CORS spec to be changed to allow authentication headers to be sent on the OPTIONS request at the benefit of IIS users. Basically, they are waiting for those servers to be obsoleted.

How can I get the OPTIONS request to send and respond consistently?

Simply have the server (API in this example) respond to OPTIONS requests without requiring authentication.

Kinvey did a good job expanding on this while also linking to an issue of the Twitter API outlining the catch-22 problem of this exact scenario interestingly a couple weeks before any of the browser issues were filed.

Creating a simple configuration file and parser in C++

I was searching for a similar simple C++ config file parser and this tutorial website provided me with a basic yet working solution. Its quick and dirty soultion to get the job done.

myConfig.txt

gamma=2.8
mode  =  1
path = D:\Photoshop\Projects\Workspace\Images\

The following program reads the previous configuration file:

#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <algorithm>
#include <string>

int main()
{
    double gamma = 0;
    int mode = 0;
    std::string path;

    // std::ifstream is RAII, i.e. no need to call close
    std::ifstream cFile("myConfig.txt");
    if (cFile.is_open())
    {
        std::string line;
        while (getline(cFile, line))
        {
            line.erase(std::remove_if(line.begin(), line.end(), isspace),line.end());
            if (line[0] == '#' || line.empty()) continue;

            auto delimiterPos = line.find("=");
            auto name = line.substr(0, delimiterPos);
            auto value = line.substr(delimiterPos + 1);

            //Custom coding
            if (name == "gamma") gamma = std::stod(value);
            else if (name == "mode") mode = std::stoi(value);
            else if (name == "path") path = value;
        }
    }
    else
    {
        std::cerr << "Couldn't open config file for reading.\n";
    }

    std::cout << "\nGamma=" << gamma;
    std::cout << "\nMode=" << mode;
    std::cout << "\nPath=" << path;
    std::getchar();
}

Difference between RegisterStartupScript and RegisterClientScriptBlock?

Here's an old discussion thread where I listed the main differences and the conditions in which you should use each of these methods. I think you may find it useful to go through the discussion.

To explain the differences as relevant to your posted example:

a. When you use RegisterStartupScript, it will render your script after all the elements in the page (right before the form's end tag). This enables the script to call or reference page elements without the possibility of it not finding them in the Page's DOM.

Here is the rendered source of the page when you invoke the RegisterStartupScript method:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head id="Head1"><title></title></head>
<body>
    <form name="form1" method="post" action="StartupScript.aspx" id="form1">
        <div>
            <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="someViewstategibberish" />
        </div>
        <div> <span id="lblDisplayDate">Label</span>
            <br />
            <input type="submit" name="btnPostback" value="Register Startup Script" id="btnPostback" />
            <br />
            <input type="submit" name="btnPostBack2" value="Register" id="btnPostBack2" />
        </div>
        <div>
            <input type="hidden" name="__EVENTVALIDATION" id="__EVENTVALIDATION" value="someViewstategibberish" />
        </div>
        <!-- Note this part -->
        <script language='javascript'>
            var lbl = document.getElementById('lblDisplayDate');
            lbl.style.color = 'red';
        </script>
    </form>
    <!-- Note this part -->
</body>
</html>

b. When you use RegisterClientScriptBlock, the script is rendered right after the Viewstate tag, but before any of the page elements. Since this is a direct script (not a function that can be called, it will immediately be executed by the browser. But the browser does not find the label in the Page's DOM at this stage and hence you should receive an "Object not found" error.

Here is the rendered source of the page when you invoke the RegisterClientScriptBlock method:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head id="Head1"><title></title></head>
<body>
    <form name="form1" method="post" action="StartupScript.aspx" id="form1">
        <div>
            <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="someViewstategibberish" />
        </div>
        <script language='javascript'>
            var lbl = document.getElementById('lblDisplayDate');
            // Error is thrown in the next line because lbl is null.
            lbl.style.color = 'green';

Therefore, to summarize, you should call the latter method if you intend to render a function definition. You can then render the call to that function using the former method (or add a client side attribute).

Edit after comments:

For instance, the following function would work:

protected void btnPostBack2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
  System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder();
  sb.Append("<script language='javascript'>function ChangeColor() {");
  sb.Append("var lbl = document.getElementById('lblDisplayDate');");
  sb.Append("lbl.style.color='green';");
  sb.Append("}</script>");

  //Render the function definition.
  if (!ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered("JSScriptBlock"))
  {
    ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.GetType(), "JSScriptBlock", sb.ToString());
  }

  //Render the function invocation.
  string funcCall = "<script language='javascript'>ChangeColor();</script>";

  if (!ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered("JSScript"))
  {
    ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "JSScript", funcCall);
  }
}

'Incomplete final line' warning when trying to read a .csv file into R

I got this problem once when I had a single quote as part of the header. When I removed it (i.e. renamed the respective column header from Jimmy's data to Jimmys data), the function returned no warnings.

jquery change class name

You can set the class (regardless of what it was) by using .attr(), like this:

$("#td_id").attr('class', 'newClass');

If you want to add a class, use .addclass() instead, like this:

$("#td_id").addClass('newClass');

Or a short way to swap classes using .toggleClass():

$("#td_id").toggleClass('change_me newClass');

Here's the full list of jQuery methods specifically for the class attribute.

Declaring functions in JSP?

You need to enclose that in <%! %> as follows:

<%!

public String getQuarter(int i){
String quarter;
switch(i){
        case 1: quarter = "Winter";
        break;

        case 2: quarter = "Spring";
        break;

        case 3: quarter = "Summer I";
        break;

        case 4: quarter = "Summer II";
        break;

        case 5: quarter = "Fall";
        break;

        default: quarter = "ERROR";
}

return quarter;
}

%>

You can then invoke the function within scriptlets or expressions:

<%
     out.print(getQuarter(4));
%>

or

<%= getQuarter(17) %>

How to connect mySQL database using C++

Yes, you will need the mysql c++ connector library. Read on below, where I explain how to get the example given by mysql developers to work.

Note(and solution): IDE: I tried using Visual Studio 2010, but just a few sconds ago got this all to work, it seems like I missed it in the manual, but it suggests to use Visual Studio 2008. I downloaded and installed VS2008 Express for c++, followed the steps in chapter 5 of manual and errors are gone! It works. I'm happy, problem solved. Except for the one on how to get it to work on newer versions of visual studio. You should try the mysql for visual studio addon which maybe will get vs2010 or higher to connect successfully. It can be downloaded from mysql website

Whilst trying to get the example mentioned above to work, I find myself here from difficulties due to changes to the mysql dev website. I apologise for writing this as an answer, since I can't comment yet, and will edit this as I discover what to do and find the solution, so that future developers can be helped.(Since this has gotten so big it wouldn't have fitted as a comment anyways, haha)

@hd1 link to "an example" no longer works. Following the link, one will end up at the page which gives you link to the main manual. The main manual is a good reference, but seems to be quite old and outdated, and difficult for new developers, since we have no experience especially if we missing a certain file, and then what to add.

@hd1's link has moved, and can be found with a quick search by removing the url components, keeping just the article name, here it is anyways: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/connector-cpp/en/connector-cpp-examples-complete-example-1.html

Getting 7.5 MySQL Connector/C++ Complete Example 1 to work

Downloads:

-Get the mysql c++ connector, even though it is bigger choose the installer package, not the zip.

-Get the boost libraries from boost.org, since boost is used in connection.h and mysql_connection.h from the mysql c++ connector

Now proceed:

-Install the connector to your c drive, then go to your mysql server install folder/lib and copy all libmysql files, and paste in your connector install folder/lib/opt

-Extract the boost library to your c drive

Next:

It is alright to copy the code as it is from the example(linked above, and ofcourse into a new c++ project). You will notice errors:

-First: change

cout << "(" << __FUNCTION__ << ") on line " »
 << __LINE__ << endl;

to

cout << "(" << __FUNCTION__ << ") on line " << __LINE__ << endl;

Not sure what that tiny double arrow is for, but I don't think it is part of c++

-Second: Fix other errors of them by reading Chapter 5 of the sql manual, note my paragraph regarding chapter 5 below

[Note 1]: Chapter 5 Building MySQL Connector/C++ Windows Applications with Microsoft Visual Studio If you follow this chapter, using latest c++ connecter, you will likely see that what is in your connector folder and what is shown in the images are quite different. Whether you look in the mysql server installation include and lib folders or in the mysql c++ connector folders' include and lib folders, it will not match perfectly unless they update the manual, or you had a magic download, but for me they don't match with a connector download initiated March 2014.

Just follow that chapter 5,

-But for c/c++, General, Additional Include Directories include the "include" folder from the connector you installed, not server install folder

-While doing the above, also include your boost folder see note 2 below

-And for the Linker, General.. etc use the opt folder from connector/lib/opt

*[Note 2]*A second include needs to happen, you need to include from the boost library variant.hpp, this is done the same as above, add the main folder you extracted from the boost zip download, not boost or lib or the subfolder "variant" found in boostmainfolder/boost.. Just the main folder as the second include

Next:

What is next I think is the Static Build, well it is what I did anyways. Follow it.

Then build/compile. LNK errors show up(Edit: Gone after changing ide to visual studio 2008). I think it is because I should build connector myself(if you do this in visual studio 2010 then link errors should disappear), but been working on trying to get this to work since Thursday, will see if I have the motivation to see this through after a good night sleep(and did and now finished :) ).

Add 'x' number of hours to date

Um... your minutes should be corrected... 'i' is for minutes. Not months. :) (I had the same problem for something too.

$now = date("Y-m-d H:i:s");
$new_time = date("Y-m-d H:i:s", strtotime('+3 hours', $now)); // $now + 3 hours

Block Comments in a Shell Script

In all honesty, why so much overengineering...

I consider it really a bad practice to write active code for generating passive code.

My solution: most editors have block select mode. Just use it to add # to all lines you want to comment out. What's the big deal...

Notepad example:

To create: Alt - mousedrag down, press #.

To delete: Alt-mousedrag down, shift-right arrow, delete.

Iterator invalidation rules

C++11 (Source: Iterator Invalidation Rules (C++0x))

Insertion

Sequence containers

  • vector: all iterators and references before the point of insertion are unaffected, unless the new container size is greater than the previous capacity (in which case all iterators and references are invalidated) [23.3.6.5/1]
  • deque: all iterators and references are invalidated, unless the inserted member is at an end (front or back) of the deque (in which case all iterators are invalidated, but references to elements are unaffected) [23.3.3.4/1]
  • list: all iterators and references unaffected [23.3.5.4/1]
  • forward_list: all iterators and references unaffected (applies to insert_after) [23.3.4.5/1]
  • array: (n/a)

Associative containers

  • [multi]{set,map}: all iterators and references unaffected [23.2.4/9]

Unsorted associative containers

  • unordered_[multi]{set,map}: all iterators invalidated when rehashing occurs, but references unaffected [23.2.5/8]. Rehashing does not occur if the insertion does not cause the container's size to exceed z * B where z is the maximum load factor and B the current number of buckets. [23.2.5/14]

Container adaptors

  • stack: inherited from underlying container
  • queue: inherited from underlying container
  • priority_queue: inherited from underlying container

Erasure

Sequence containers

  • vector: every iterator and reference at or after the point of erase is invalidated [23.3.6.5/3]
  • deque: erasing the last element invalidates only iterators and references to the erased elements and the past-the-end iterator; erasing the first element invalidates only iterators and references to the erased elements; erasing any other elements invalidates all iterators and references (including the past-the-end iterator) [23.3.3.4/4]
  • list: only the iterators and references to the erased element is invalidated [23.3.5.4/3]
  • forward_list: only the iterators and references to the erased element is invalidated (applies to erase_after) [23.3.4.5/1]
  • array: (n/a)

Associative containers

  • [multi]{set,map}: only iterators and references to the erased elements are invalidated [23.2.4/9]

Unordered associative containers

  • unordered_[multi]{set,map}: only iterators and references to the erased elements are invalidated [23.2.5/13]

Container adaptors

  • stack: inherited from underlying container
  • queue: inherited from underlying container
  • priority_queue: inherited from underlying container

Resizing

  • vector: as per insert/erase [23.3.6.5/12]
  • deque: as per insert/erase [23.3.3.3/3]
  • list: as per insert/erase [23.3.5.3/1]
  • forward_list: as per insert/erase [23.3.4.5/25]
  • array: (n/a)

Note 1

Unless otherwise specified (either explicitly or by defining a function in terms of other functions), invoking a container member function or passing a container as an argument to a library function shall not invalidate iterators to, or change the values of, objects within that container. [23.2.1/11]

Note 2

no swap() function invalidates any references, pointers, or iterators referring to the elements of the containers being swapped. [ Note: The end() iterator does not refer to any element, so it may be invalidated. —end note ] [23.2.1/10]

Note 3

Other than the above caveat regarding swap(), it's not clear whether "end" iterators are subject to the above listed per-container rules; you should assume, anyway, that they are.

Note 4

vector and all unordered associative containers support reserve(n) which guarantees that no automatic resizing will occur at least until the size of the container grows to n. Caution should be taken with unordered associative containers because a future proposal will allow the specification of a minimum load factor, which would allow rehashing to occur on insert after enough erase operations reduce the container size below the minimum; the guarantee should be considered potentially void after an erase.

How can you profile a Python script?

If you want to make a cumulative profiler, meaning to run the function several times in a row and watch the sum of the results.

you can use this cumulative_profiler decorator:

it's python >= 3.6 specific, but you can remove nonlocal for it work on older versions.

import cProfile, pstats

class _ProfileFunc:
    def __init__(self, func, sort_stats_by):
        self.func =  func
        self.profile_runs = []
        self.sort_stats_by = sort_stats_by

    def __call__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        pr = cProfile.Profile()
        pr.enable() # this is the profiling section
        retval = self.func(*args, **kwargs)
        pr.disable()

        self.profile_runs.append(pr)
        ps = pstats.Stats(*self.profile_runs).sort_stats(self.sort_stats_by)
        return retval, ps

def cumulative_profiler(amount_of_times, sort_stats_by='time'):
    def real_decorator(function):
        def wrapper(*args, **kwargs):
            nonlocal function, amount_of_times, sort_stats_by # for python 2.x remove this row

            profiled_func = _ProfileFunc(function, sort_stats_by)
            for i in range(amount_of_times):
                retval, ps = profiled_func(*args, **kwargs)
            ps.print_stats()
            return retval # returns the results of the function
        return wrapper

    if callable(amount_of_times): # incase you don't want to specify the amount of times
        func = amount_of_times # amount_of_times is the function in here
        amount_of_times = 5  # the default amount
        return real_decorator(func)
    return real_decorator

Example

profiling the function baz

import time

@cumulative_profiler
def baz():
    time.sleep(1)
    time.sleep(2)
    return 1

baz()

baz ran 5 times and printed this:

         20 function calls in 15.003 seconds

   Ordered by: internal time

   ncalls tottime percall cumtime percall filename:lineno(function)
       10   15.003    1.500   15.003    1.500 {built-in method time.sleep}
        5    0.000    0.000   15.003    3.001 <ipython-input-9-c89afe010372>:3(baz)
        5    0.000    0.000    0.000    0.000 {method 'disable' of '_lsprof.Profiler' objects}

specifying the amount of times

@cumulative_profiler(3)
def baz():
    ...

Convert integer to string Jinja

The OP needed to cast as string outside the {% set ... %}. But if that not your case you can do:

{% set curYear = 2013 | string() %}

Note that you need the parenthesis on that jinja filter.

If you're concatenating 2 variables, you can also use the ~ custom operator.

align textbox and text/labels in html?

Using a table would be one (and easy) option.

Other options are all about setting fixed width on the and making it text-aligned to the right:

label {
   width: 200px;
   display: inline-block;
   text-align: right;
}

or, as was pointed out, make them all float instead of inline.

Stack Memory vs Heap Memory

It's a language abstraction - some languages have both, some one, some neither.

In the case of C++, the code is not run in either the stack or the heap. You can test what happens if you run out of heap memory by repeatingly calling new to allocate memory in a loop without calling delete to free it it. But make a system backup before doing this.

Why extend the Android Application class?

Introduction:

enter image description here

  1. If we consider an apk file in our mobile, it is comprised of multiple useful blocks such as, Activitys, Services and others.
  2. These components do not communicate with each other regularly and not forget they have their own life cycle. which indicate that they may be active at one time and inactive the other moment.

Requirements:

  1. Sometimes we may require a scenario where we need to access a variable and its states across the entire Application regardless of the Activity the user is using,
  2. An example is that a user might need to access a variable that holds his personnel information (e.g. name) that has to be accessed across the Application,
  3. We can use SQLite but creating a Cursor and closing it again and again is not good on performance,
  4. We could use Intents to pass the data but it's clumsy and activity itself may not exist at a certain scenario depending on the memory-availability.

Uses of Application Class:

  1. Access to variables across the Application,
  2. You can use the Application to start certain things like analytics etc. since the application class is started before Activitys or Servicess are being run,
  3. There is an overridden method called onConfigurationChanged() that is triggered when the application configuration is changed (horizontal to vertical & vice-versa),
  4. There is also an event called onLowMemory() that is triggered when the Android device is low on memory.

How do I uninstall a Windows service if the files do not exist anymore?

You have at least three options. I have presented them in order of usage preference.

Method 1 - You can use the SC tool (Sc.exe) included in the Resource Kit. (included with Windows 7/8)

Open a Command Prompt and enter

sc delete <service-name>

Tool help snippet follows:

DESCRIPTION:
        SC is a command line program used for communicating with the
        NT Service Controller and services.

delete----------Deletes a service (from the registry).

Method 2 - use delserv

Download and use delserv command line utility. This is a legacy tool developed for Windows 2000. In current Window XP boxes this was superseded by sc described in method 1.

Method 3 - manually delete registry entries (Note that this backfires in Windows 7/8)

Windows services are registered under the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Search for the sub-key with the service name under referred key and delete it. (and you might need to restart to remove completely the service from the Services list)

Open File in Another Directory (Python)

How to put individual tags for a scatter plot

Perhaps use plt.annotate:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

N = 10
data = np.random.random((N, 4))
labels = ['point{0}'.format(i) for i in range(N)]

plt.subplots_adjust(bottom = 0.1)
plt.scatter(
    data[:, 0], data[:, 1], marker='o', c=data[:, 2], s=data[:, 3] * 1500,
    cmap=plt.get_cmap('Spectral'))

for label, x, y in zip(labels, data[:, 0], data[:, 1]):
    plt.annotate(
        label,
        xy=(x, y), xytext=(-20, 20),
        textcoords='offset points', ha='right', va='bottom',
        bbox=dict(boxstyle='round,pad=0.5', fc='yellow', alpha=0.5),
        arrowprops=dict(arrowstyle = '->', connectionstyle='arc3,rad=0'))

plt.show()

Does Visual Studio have code coverage for unit tests?

Only Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise has code coverage built-in. See the feature matrix for details.

You can use the OpenCover.UI extension for code coverage check inside Visual Studio. It supports MSTest, nUnit, and xUnit.

The new version can be downloaded from here (release notes).

Class method decorator with self arguments?

Yes. Instead of passing in the instance attribute at class definition time, check it at runtime:

def check_authorization(f):
    def wrapper(*args):
        print args[0].url
        return f(*args)
    return wrapper

class Client(object):
    def __init__(self, url):
        self.url = url

    @check_authorization
    def get(self):
        print 'get'

>>> Client('http://www.google.com').get()
http://www.google.com
get

The decorator intercepts the method arguments; the first argument is the instance, so it reads the attribute off of that. You can pass in the attribute name as a string to the decorator and use getattr if you don't want to hardcode the attribute name:

def check_authorization(attribute):
    def _check_authorization(f):
        def wrapper(self, *args):
            print getattr(self, attribute)
            return f(self, *args)
        return wrapper
    return _check_authorization

What is the difference between conversion specifiers %i and %d in formatted IO functions (*printf / *scanf)

There is no difference between the %i and %d format specifiers for printf. We can see this by going to the draft C99 standard section 7.19.6.1 The fprintf function which also covers printf with respect to format specifiers and it says in paragraph 8:

The conversion specifiers and their meanings are:

and includes the following bullet:

d,i The int argument is converted to signed decimal in the style
        [-]dddd. The precision specifies the minimum number of digits to
        appear; if the value being converted can be represented in fewer
        digits, it is expanded with leading zeros. The default precision is
        1. The result of converting a zero value with a precision of zero is
        no characters.

On the other hand for scanf there is a difference, %d assume base 10 while %i auto detects the base. We can see this by going to section 7.19.6.2 The fscanf function which covers scanf with respect to format specifier, in paragraph 12 it says:

The conversion specifiers and their meanings are:

and includes the following:

d Matches an optionally signed decimal integer, whose format is the
      same as expected for the subject sequence of the strtol function with
      the value 10 for the base argument. The corresponding argument shall
      be a pointer to signed integer.

i Matches an optionally signed integer, whose format is the same as
      expected for the subject sequence of the strtol function with the
      value 0 for the base argument. The corresponding argument shall be a
      pointer to signed integer.

python pip - install from local dir

You were looking for help on installations with pip. You can find it with the following command:

pip install --help

Running pip install -e /path/to/package installs the package in a way, that you can edit the package, and when a new import call looks for it, it will import the edited package code. This can be very useful for package development.

  • To capture if a ListBox item is clicked use MouseDown event.
  • To capture if an item is clicked rather than empty space in list box check if listBox1.IndexFromPoint(new Point(e.X,e.Y))>=0
  • To capture doubleclick event check if e.Clicks == 2

Merge development branch with master

If you are using gerrit, the following commands work perfectly.

git checkout master
git merge --no-ff development

You can save with the default commit message. Make sure, the change id has been generated. You can use the following command to make sure.

git commit --amend

Then push with the following command.

git push origin HEAD:refs/for/refs/heads/master

You might encounter an error message like the below.

! [remote rejected] HEAD -> refs/for/refs/heads/master (you are not allowed to upload merges)

To resolve this, the gerrit project admin has to create another reference in gerrit named 'refs/for/refs/heads/master' or 'refs/for/refs/heads/*' (which will cover all branches in future). Then grant 'Push Merge Commit' permission to this reference and 'Submit' permission if required to Submit the GCR.

Now, try the above push command again, and it should work.

Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS

You should return only one column and one row in the where query where you assign the returned value to a variable. Example:

select * from table1 where Date in (select * from Dates) -- Wrong
select * from table1 where Date in (select Column1,Column2 from Dates) -- Wrong
select * from table1 where Date in (select Column1 from Dates) -- OK

How To Make Circle Custom Progress Bar in Android

JavaScript checking for null vs. undefined and difference between == and ===

undefined

It means the variable is not yet intialized .

Example :

var x;
if(x){ //you can check like this
   //code.
}

equals(==)

It only check value is equals not datatype .

Example :

var x = true;
var y = new Boolean(true);
x == y ; //returns true

Because it checks only value .

Strict Equals(===)

Checks the value and datatype should be same .

Example :

var x = true;
var y = new Boolean(true);
x===y; //returns false.

Because it checks the datatype x is a primitive type and y is a boolean object .

Thought to add my solution for this, after spending a few hours on the same error :(

The guys above were correct that the first thing you should check is whether you had missed adding any frameworks, see the steps provided by Pruthvid above.

My problem, it turned out, was a compile class missing after I deleted it, and later added it back in again.

Check your "Compile Sources" as shown for the reported error classes. Add in any missing classes that you created.

What is a good Hash Function?

There are two major purposes of hashing functions:

  • to disperse data points uniformly into n bits.
  • to securely identify the input data.

It's impossible to recommend a hash without knowing what you're using it for.

If you're just making a hash table in a program, then you don't need to worry about how reversible or hackable the algorithm is... SHA-1 or AES is completely unnecessary for this, you'd be better off using a variation of FNV. FNV achieves better dispersion (and thus fewer collisions) than a simple prime mod like you mentioned, and it's more adaptable to varying input sizes.

If you're using the hashes to hide and authenticate public information (such as hashing a password, or a document), then you should use one of the major hashing algorithms vetted by public scrutiny. The Hash Function Lounge is a good place to start.

await is only valid in async function

I had the same problem and the following block of code was giving the same error message:

repositories.forEach( repo => {
        const commits = await getCommits(repo);
        displayCommit(commits);
});

The problem is that the method getCommits() was async but I was passing it the argument repo which was also produced by a Promise. So, I had to add the word async to it like this: async(repo) and it started working:

repositories.forEach( async(repo) => {
        const commits = await getCommits(repo);
        displayCommit(commits);
});

How do I test a single file using Jest?

For nestjs users, the simple alternative is to use,

npm test -t <name of the spec file to run>

Nestjs comes preconfigured with the regex of the test files to search for incase of jest A simple example is -

npm test -t app-util.spec.ts

(that is my spec file name)

The complete path need not be given since jest searches for spec files based on the confuguration which is available by default incase of nestjs

"jest": {
    "moduleFileExtensions": [
      "js",
      "json",
      "ts"
    ],
    "rootDir": "src",
    "testRegex": ".spec.ts$",
    "transform": {
      "^.+\\.(t|j)s$": "ts-jest"
    },
    "coverageDirectory": "../coverage",
    "testEnvironment": "node"
  }
}

Private Variables and Methods in Python

The double underscore. It mangles the name in such a way that it can't be accessed simply through __fieldName from outside the class, which is what you want to begin with if they're to be private. (Though it's still not very hard to access the field.)

class Foo:
    def __init__(self):
        self.__privateField = 4;
        print self.__privateField # yields 4 no problem

foo = Foo()
foo.__privateField
# AttributeError: Foo instance has no attribute '__privateField'

It will be accessible through _Foo__privateField instead. But it screams "I'M PRIVATE DON'T TOUCH ME", which is better than nothing.

Convert HttpPostedFileBase to byte[]

As Darin says, you can read from the input stream - but I'd avoid relying on all the data being available in a single go. If you're using .NET 4 this is simple:

MemoryStream target = new MemoryStream();
model.File.InputStream.CopyTo(target);
byte[] data = target.ToArray();

It's easy enough to write the equivalent of CopyTo in .NET 3.5 if you want. The important part is that you read from HttpPostedFileBase.InputStream.

For efficient purposes you could check whether the stream returned is already a MemoryStream:

byte[] data;
using (Stream inputStream = model.File.InputStream)
{
    MemoryStream memoryStream = inputStream as MemoryStream;
    if (memoryStream == null)
    {
        memoryStream = new MemoryStream();
        inputStream.CopyTo(memoryStream);
    }
    data = memoryStream.ToArray();
}

How do I find the parent directory in C#?

'xmlParseEntityRef: no name' warnings while loading xml into a php file

PROBLEM

  • PHP function simplexml_load_file is throwing parsing error parser error : xmlParseEntityRef while trying to load the XML file from a URL.

CAUSE

  • XML returned by the URL is not a valid XML. It contains & value instead of &amp;. It is quite possible that there are other errors which aren't obvious at this point of time.

THINGS OUT OF OUR CONTROL

  • Ideally, we should make sure that a valid XML is feed into PHP simplexml_load_file function, but it looks like we don't have any control over how the XML is created.
  • It is also not possible to force simplexml_load_file to process an invalid XML file. It does not leave us with many options, other than fixing the XML file itself.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Convert Invalid XML to Valid XML. It can be done using PHP tidy extension. Further instructions can be found from http://php.net/manual/en/book.tidy.php

Once you are sure that the extension exists or is installed, please do the following.

/**
 * As per the question asked, the URL is loaded into a variable first,
 * which we can assume to be $xml
 */
$xml = <<<XML
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<project orderno="6" campaign_name="International Relief & Development for under developed nations">
    <invalid-data>Some other data containing & in it</invalid-data>
    <unclosed-tag>
</project>
XML;

/**
 * Whenever we use tidy it is best to pass some configuration options
 * similar to $tidyConfig. In this particular case we are making sure that
 * tidy understands that our input and output is XML.
 */
$tidyConfig = array (
    'indent' => true,
    'input-xml' => true,
    'output-xml' => true,
    'wrap' => 200
);

/**
 * Now we can use tidy to parse the string and then repair it.
 */
$tidy = new tidy;
$tidy->parseString($xml, $tidyConfig, 'utf8');
$tidy->cleanRepair();

/**
 * If we try to output the repaired XML string by echoing $tidy it should look like.

 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
 <project orderno="6" campaign_name="International Relief &amp; Development for under developed nations">
      <invalid-data>Some other data containing &amp; in it</invalid-data>
      <unclosed-tag></unclosed-tag>
 </project>

 * As you can see that & is now fixed in campaign_name attribute
 * and also with-in invalid-data element. You can also see that the
 * <unclosed-tag> which didn't had a close tag, has been fixed too.
 */
echo $tidy;

/**
 * Now when we try to use simplexml_load_string to load the clean XML. When we
 * try to print_r it should look something like below.

 SimpleXMLElement Object
(
    [@attributes] => Array
        (
            [orderno] => 6
            [campaign_name] => International Relief & Development for under developed nations
        )

    [invalid-data] => Some other data containing & in it
    [unclosed-tag] => SimpleXMLElement Object
        (
        )

)

 */
 $simpleXmlElement = simplexml_load_string($tidy);
 print_r($simpleXmlElement);

CAUTION

The developer should try to compare the invalid XML with a valid XML (generated by tidy), to see there are no adverse side effects after using tidy. Tidy does an extremely good job of doing it correctly, but it never hurts to see it visually and to be 100% sure. In our case it should be as simple as comparing $xml with $tidy.

How to get the selected row values of DevExpress XtraGrid?

Here is the way that I've followed,

int[] selRows = ((GridView)gridControl1.MainView).GetSelectedRows();
DataRowView selRow = (DataRowView)(((GridView)gridControl1.MainView).GetRow(selRows[0]));
txtName.Text = selRow["name"].ToString();

Also you can iterate through selected rows using the selRows array. Here the code describes how to get data only from first selected row. You can insert these code lines to click event of the grid.

How do I concatenate a string with a variable?

Another way to do it simpler using jquery.

sample:

function add(product_id){

    // the code to add the product
    //updating the div, here I just change the text inside the div.
    //You can do anything with jquery, like change style, border etc.
    $("#added_"+product_id).html('the product was added to list');

}

Where product_id is the javascript var and$("#added_"+product_id) is a div id concatenated with product_id, the var from function add.

Best Regards!

Installing Tomcat 7 as Service on Windows Server 2008

There are a lot of answers here, but many overlook a few points. I ran into the same issue and it was likely due to a combination of being a complete neophyte when it comes to tomcat. Even more I am rather new to web servers in general. I consider myself somewhat proficient user of windows, but I guess not proficient enough. In particular I don't work with services too much.

I did not have a startup.bat or any bat files. I only downloaded the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer. The bin that is created for that download is small - only 4 files. My colleagues were surprised that I did not have a catalina.bat etc... and I was too. Only the below four files in the bin. And no %CATALINA_HOME% or %TOMCAT_HOME% etc...

bootstrap.jar
tomcat-juli.jar
Tomcat7.exe
Tomcat7w.exe

With this setup I had some frustrations as setting parameters is done via the gui widget - very helpful I might add.

So nearly all the answers I have perused were not immediately applicable as many said, "go to bin and issue the startup.bat file" I am a neophyte but not so much to not be able to look into the bin and start such a file it is existed!

For my simple purposes (again remember that I am a neophyte at tomcat and even web servers) all I wanted to do was to be able to startup and shutdown the tomcat server from a cmd prompt window. Nothing too heavy duty. I am embarrassed to say how simple it is. It is probably evident to anyone with a shred of experience with services and such.

To Start server: <Tomcat Root>/bin>Tomcat7.exe start
To Stop server: <Tomcat Root>/bin>Tomcat7.exe stop

Found here - http://crunchify.com/how-to-start-stop-apache-tomcat-server-via-command-line-setup-as-windows-service/

I did not realize there was a separate download the 64-bit Windows zip file that has a tomcat server and all the standard array of cmd line tomcat management tools. This zip file has all the common startup/shutdown scripts, batch files for windows, including catalina.bat/.sh etc... Then all the above answers make sense and are rather trivial.

Remember I am a neophyte when it comes to tomcat and web servers. It appears these two downloads are somewhat mutually exclusive in the sense that if I download and install the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer version and the 64-bit Windows zip file the startup.bat file in the 64-bit Windows zip file version will not run or interact with the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer tomcat instance. But I am not sure about this point.

How do I remove a CLOSE_WAIT socket connection

I'm also having the same issue with a very latest Tomcat server (7.0.40). It goes non-responsive once for a couple of days.

To see open connections, you may use:

sudo netstat -tonp | grep jsvc | grep --regexp="127.0.0.1:443" --regexp="127.0.0.1:80" | grep CLOSE_WAIT

As mentioned in this post, you may use /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_keepalive_time to view the values. The value seems to be in seconds and defaults to 7200 (i.e. 2 hours).

To change them, you need to edit /etc/sysctl.conf.

Open/create `/etc/sysctl.conf`
Add `net.ipv4.tcp_keepalive_time = 120` and save the file
Invoke `sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf`
Verify using `cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_keepalive_time`

adb connection over tcp not working now

I solved that issue follow that:

Steps:

  1. Make sure that Aggressive Wi-Fi to Cellular handover under Networking section in the device's developer options is turned off.
  2. Ping continuously from your pc to the device to make sure it's not in network idle mode ping -t 194.68.0.100 (windows cmd), unlock the device and even try to surf to some website just to make it get out of the network idle.
  3. If ping doesn't work, turn off / on Android Wifi and go back to step 2.
  4. When it replies to the ping, connect it via USB, and:

    adb usb

    adb tcpip 5555

    adb connect 194.68.0.100:5555

In casr it's still not connected, try to switch the usb connection mode as MTP / PTP / Camera while the device is connected through usb and repeat these steps over again...

Centering a canvas

Same codes from Nickolay above, but tested on IE9 and chrome (and removed the extra rendering):

window.onload = window.onresize = function() {
   var canvas = document.getElementById('canvas');
   var viewportWidth = window.innerWidth;
   var viewportHeight = window.innerHeight;
   var canvasWidth = viewportWidth * 0.8;
   var canvasHeight = canvasWidth / 2;

   canvas.style.position = "absolute";
   canvas.setAttribute("width", canvasWidth);
   canvas.setAttribute("height", canvasHeight);
   canvas.style.top = (viewportHeight - canvasHeight) / 2 + "px";
   canvas.style.left = (viewportWidth - canvasWidth) / 2 + "px";
}

HTML:

<body>
  <canvas id="canvas" style="background: #ffffff">
     Canvas is not supported.
  </canvas>
</body>

The top and left offset only works when I add px.

How can I remove all text after a character in bash?

Using an array as needles in strpos

This is my approach. Iterate over characters in the string until a match is found. On a larger array of needles this will outperform the accepted answer because it doesn't need to check every needle to determine that a match has been found.

function strpos_array($haystack, $needles = [], $offset = 0) {
    for ($i = $offset, $len = strlen($haystack); $i < $len; $i++){
        if (in_array($haystack[$i],$needles)) {
            return $i;
        }
    }
    return false;
}

I benchmarked this against the accepted answer and with an array of more than 7 $needles this was dramatically faster.

Do Git tags only apply to the current branch?

If you want to create a tag from a branch which is something like release/yourbranch etc Then you should use something like

git tag YOUR_TAG_VERSION_OR_NAME origin/release/yourbranch

After creating proper tag if you wish to push the tag to remote then use the command

git push origin YOUR_TAG_VERSION_OR_NAME

Using local makefile for CLion instead of CMake

Newest version has better support literally for any generated Makefiles, through the compiledb

Three steps:

  1. install compiledb

    pip install compiledb

  2. run a dry make

    compiledb -n make

    (do the autogen, configure if needed)

  3. there will be a compile_commands.json file generated open the project and you will see CLion will load info from the json file. If you your CLion still try to find CMakeLists.txt and cannot read compile_commands.json, try to remove the entire folder, re-download the source files, and redo step 1,2,3

Skip over a value in the range function in python

In addition to the Python 2 approach here are the equivalents for Python 3:

# Create a range that does not contain 50
for i in [x for x in range(100) if x != 50]:
    print(i)

# Create 2 ranges [0,49] and [51, 100]
from itertools import chain
concatenated = chain(range(50), range(51, 100))
for i in concatenated:
    print(i)

# Create a iterator and skip 50
xr = iter(range(100))
for i in xr:
    print(i)
    if i == 49:
        next(xr)

# Simply continue in the loop if the number is 50
for i in range(100):
    if i == 50:
        continue
    print(i)

Ranges are lists in Python 2 and iterators in Python 3.

ValueError: The truth value of an array with more than one element is ambiguous. Use a.any() or a.all()

r is a numpy (rec)array. So r["dt"] >= startdate is also a (boolean) array. For numpy arrays the & operation returns the elementwise-and of the two boolean arrays.

The NumPy developers felt there was no one commonly understood way to evaluate an array in boolean context: it could mean True if any element is True, or it could mean True if all elements are True, or True if the array has non-zero length, just to name three possibilities.

Since different users might have different needs and different assumptions, the NumPy developers refused to guess and instead decided to raise a ValueError whenever one tries to evaluate an array in boolean context. Applying and to two numpy arrays causes the two arrays to be evaluated in boolean context (by calling __bool__ in Python3 or __nonzero__ in Python2).

Your original code

mask = ((r["dt"] >= startdate) & (r["dt"] <= enddate))
selected = r[mask]

looks correct. However, if you do want and, then instead of a and b use (a-b).any() or (a-b).all().

Scala list concatenation, ::: vs ++

Always use :::. There are two reasons: efficiency and type safety.

Efficiency

x ::: y ::: z is faster than x ++ y ++ z, because ::: is right associative. x ::: y ::: z is parsed as x ::: (y ::: z), which is algorithmically faster than (x ::: y) ::: z (the latter requires O(|x|) more steps).

Type safety

With ::: you can only concatenate two Lists. With ++ you can append any collection to List, which is terrible:

scala> List(1, 2, 3) ++ "ab"
res0: List[AnyVal] = List(1, 2, 3, a, b)

++ is also easy to mix up with +:

scala> List(1, 2, 3) + "ab"
res1: String = List(1, 2, 3)ab

How do I get java logging output to appear on a single line?

Like Obediah Stane said, it's necessary to create your own format method. But I would change a few things:

  • Create a subclass directly derived from Formatter, not from SimpleFormatter. The SimpleFormatter has nothing to add anymore.

  • Be careful with creating a new Date object! You should make sure to represent the date of the LogRecord. When creating a new Date with the default constructor, it will represent the date and time the Formatter processes the LogRecord, not the date that the LogRecord was created.

The following class can be used as formatter in a Handler, which in turn can be added to the Logger. Note that it ignores all class and method information available in the LogRecord.

import java.io.PrintWriter;
import java.io.StringWriter;
import java.util.Date;
import java.util.logging.Formatter;
import java.util.logging.LogRecord;

public final class LogFormatter extends Formatter {

    private static final String LINE_SEPARATOR = System.getProperty("line.separator");

    @Override
    public String format(LogRecord record) {
        StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();

        sb.append(new Date(record.getMillis()))
            .append(" ")
            .append(record.getLevel().getLocalizedName())
            .append(": ")
            .append(formatMessage(record))
            .append(LINE_SEPARATOR);

        if (record.getThrown() != null) {
            try {
                StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
                PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(sw);
                record.getThrown().printStackTrace(pw);
                pw.close();
                sb.append(sw.toString());
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                // ignore
            }
        }

        return sb.toString();
    }
}

how do you filter pandas dataframes by multiple columns

Using & operator, don't forget to wrap the sub-statements with ():

males = df[(df[Gender]=='Male') & (df[Year]==2014)]

To store your dataframes in a dict using a for loop:

from collections import defaultdict
dic={}
for g in ['male', 'female']:
  dic[g]=defaultdict(dict)
  for y in [2013, 2014]:
    dic[g][y]=df[(df[Gender]==g) & (df[Year]==y)] #store the DataFrames to a dict of dict

EDIT:

A demo for your getDF:

def getDF(dic, gender, year):
  return dic[gender][year]

print genDF(dic, 'male', 2014)

How to access random item in list?

I'll suggest different approach, If the order of the items inside the list is not important at extraction (and each item should be selected only once), then instead of a List you can use a ConcurrentBag which is a thread-safe, unordered collection of objects:

var bag = new ConcurrentBag<string>();
bag.Add("Foo");
bag.Add("Boo");
bag.Add("Zoo");

The EventHandler:

string result;
if (bag.TryTake(out result))
{
    MessageBox.Show(result);
}

The TryTake will attempt to extract an "random" object from the unordered collection.

Application Error - The connection to the server was unsuccessful. (file:///android_asset/www/index.html)

I had a similar issue and based on above suggestions I first added "super.setIntegerProperty("loadUrlTimeoutValue", 70000);" but that did not help. So I tried Project -> Clean, that worked and I can launch the app now !

Difference between 2 dates in SQLite

The SQLite documentation is a great reference and the DateAndTimeFunctions page is a good one to bookmark.

It's also helpful to remember that it's pretty easy to play with queries with the sqlite command line utility:

sqlite> select julianday(datetime('now'));
2454788.09219907
sqlite> select datetime(julianday(datetime('now')));
2008-11-17 14:13:55

Sql error on update : The UPDATE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint

In MySQL

set foreign_key_checks=0;

UPDATE patient INNER JOIN patient_address
ON patient.id_no=patient_address.id_no
SET patient.id_no='8008255601088',
patient_address.id_no=patient.id_no
WHERE patient.id_no='7008255601088';

Note that foreign_key_checks only temporarily set foreign key checking false. So it need to execute every time before update statement. We set it 0 as if we update parent first then that will not be allowed as child may have already that value. And if we update child first then that will also be not allowed as parent may not have that value from which we are updating. So we need to set foreign key check. Another thing is that if you are using command line tool to use this query then put care to mention spaces in place where i put new line or ENTER in code. As command line take it in one line, so it may happen that two words stick as patient_addressON which create syntax error.

How to convert an Instant to a date format?

try Parsing and Formatting

Take an example Parsing

String input = ...;
try {
    DateTimeFormatter formatter =
                      DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("MMM d yyyy");
    LocalDate date = LocalDate.parse(input, formatter);
    System.out.printf("%s%n", date);
}
catch (DateTimeParseException exc) {
    System.out.printf("%s is not parsable!%n", input);
    throw exc; // Rethrow the exception.
}

Formatting

ZoneId leavingZone = ...;
ZonedDateTime departure = ...;

try {
    DateTimeFormatter format = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("MMM d yyyy  hh:mm a");
    String out = departure.format(format);
    System.out.printf("LEAVING:  %s (%s)%n", out, leavingZone);
}
catch (DateTimeException exc) {
    System.out.printf("%s can't be formatted!%n", departure);
    throw exc;
}

The output for this example, which prints both the arrival and departure time, is as follows:

LEAVING:  Jul 20 2013  07:30 PM (America/Los_Angeles)
ARRIVING: Jul 21 2013  10:20 PM (Asia/Tokyo)

How to convert an xml string to a dictionary?

I have modified one of the answers to my taste and to work with multiple values with the same tag for example consider the following xml code saved in XML.xml file

     <A>

The requested URL /about was not found on this server

I found a very simple solution.

  1. Go to Permalink Settings
  2. Use Plain for URL
  3. Press Save button

Now, all pages URLs in WordPress should work perfectly.

You can return the URL to the previous setting and the WordPress will re-generate the URL correctly. I choose Post name in my case and it works fine.

How can I get the key value in a JSON object?

When you parse the JSON representation, it'll become a JavaScript array of objects.

Because of this, you can use the .length property of the JavaScript array to see how many elements are contained, and use a for loop to enumerate it.

PostgreSQL Error: Relation already exists

In my case I was migrating from 9.5 to 9.6. So to restore a database, I was doing :

sudo -u postgres psql -d databse -f dump.sql

Of course it was executing on the old postgreSQL database where there are datas! If your new instance is on port 5433, the correct way is :

sudo -u postgres psql -d databse -f dump.sql -p 5433

Location of sqlite database on the device

If your application creates a database, this database is by default saved in the directory DATA/data/APP_NAME/databases/FILENAME.

The parts of the above directory are constructed based on the following rules. DATA is the path which the Environment.getDataDirectory() method returns. APP_NAME is your application name. FILENAME is the name you specify in your application code for the database.

Creating and throwing new exception

To call a specific exception such as FileNotFoundException use this format

if (-not (Test-Path $file))
{
    throw [System.IO.FileNotFoundException] "$file not found."
}

To throw a general exception use the throw command followed by a string.

throw "Error trying to do a task"

When used inside a catch, you can provide additional information about what triggered the error

How to select only the first rows for each unique value of a column?

You can use row_number() to get the row number of the row. It uses the over command - the partition by clause specifies when to restart the numbering and the order by selects what to order the row number on. Even if you added an order by to the end of your query, it would preserve the ordering in the over command when numbering.

select *
from mytable
where row_number() over(partition by Name order by AddressLine) = 1

How to redirect stderr and stdout to different files in the same line in script?

Just add them in one line command 2>> error 1>> output

However, note that >> is for appending if the file already has data. Whereas, > will overwrite any existing data in the file.

So, command 2> error 1> output if you do not want to append.

Just for completion's sake, you can write 1> as just > since the default file descriptor is the output. so 1> and > is the same thing.

So, command 2> error 1> output becomes, command 2> error > output

How can I generate a unique ID in Python?

How to search for a string inside an array of strings

Extending the contains function you linked to:

containsRegex(a, regex){
  for(var i = 0; i < a.length; i++) {
    if(a[i].search(regex) > -1){
      return i;
    }
  }
  return -1;
}

Then you call the function with an array of strings and a regex, in your case to look for height:

containsRegex([ '<param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#FFFFFF\" />', 'sdafkdf' ], /height/)

You could additionally also return the index where height was found:

containsRegex(a, regex){
  for(var i = 0; i < a.length; i++) {
    int pos = a[i].search(regex);
    if(pos > -1){
      return [i, pos];

How should I log while using multiprocessing in Python?

All current solutions are too coupled to the logging configuration by using a handler. My solution has the following architecture and features:

  • You can use any logging configuration you want
  • Logging is done in a daemon thread
  • Safe shutdown of the daemon by using a context manager
  • Communication to the logging thread is done by multiprocessing.Queue
  • In subprocesses, logging.Logger (and already defined instances) are patched to send all records to the queue
  • New: format traceback and message before sending to queue to prevent pickling errors

Code with usage example and output can be found at the following Gist: https://gist.github.com/schlamar/7003737

How can I get a list of users from active directory?

PrincipalContext for browsing the AD is ridiculously slow (only use it for .ValidateCredentials, see below), use DirectoryEntry instead and .PropertiesToLoad() so you only pay for what you need.

Filters and syntax here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/5392.active-directory-ldap-syntax-filters.aspx

Attributes here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/adschema/attributes-all

using (var root = new DirectoryEntry($"LDAP://{Domain}"))
{
    using (var searcher = new DirectorySearcher(root))
    {
        // looking for a specific user
        searcher.Filter = $"(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName={username}))";
        // I only care about what groups the user is a memberOf
        searcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add("memberOf");

        // FYI, non-null results means the user was found
        var results = searcher.FindOne();

        var properties = results?.Properties;
        if (properties?.Contains("memberOf") == true)
        {
            // ... iterate over all the groups the user is a member of
        }
    }
}

Clean, simple, fast. No magic, no half-documented calls to .RefreshCache to grab the tokenGroups or to .Bind or .NativeObject in a try/catch to validate credentials.

For authenticating the user:

using (var context = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain))
{
    return context.ValidateCredentials(username, password);
}

HTML Tags in Javascript Alert() method

You can use all Unicode characters and the escape characters \n and \t. An example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
document.getElementById("test").onclick = function() {_x000D_
  alert(_x000D_
    'This is an alert with basic formatting\n\n' _x000D_
    + "\t• list item 1\n" _x000D_
    + '\t• list item 2\n' _x000D_
    + '\t• list item 3\n\n' _x000D_
    + '???????????????????????\n\n' _x000D_
    + 'Simple table\n\n' _x000D_
    + 'Char\t| Result\n' _x000D_
    + '\\n\t| line break\n' _x000D_
    + '\\t\t| tab space'_x000D_
  );_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<!DOCTYPE html>_x000D_
<title>Alert formatting</title>_x000D_

You get the same look in almost all browsers.

Non-recursive depth first search algorithm

You would use a stack that holds the nodes that were not visited yet:

stack.push(root)
while !stack.isEmpty() do
    node = stack.pop()
    for each node.childNodes do
        stack.push(stack)
    endfor
    // …
endwhile

Access-Control-Allow-Origin and Angular.js $http

I've had success with express and editing the res.header. Mine matches yours pretty closely but I have a different Allow-Headers as noted below:

res.header("Access-Control-Allow-Headers", "Origin, X-Requested-With, Content-Type, Accept");

I'm also using Angular and Node/Express, but I don't have the headers called out in the Angular code only the node/express

TypeError: Router.use() requires middleware function but got a Object

In my case i wasn't exporting the module. module.exports = router;

Mysql - How to quit/exit from stored procedure

To handle this situation in a portable way (ie will work on all databases because it doesn’t use MySQL label Kung fu), break the procedure up into logic parts, like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE SP_Reporting(IN tablename VARCHAR(20))
BEGIN
     IF tablename IS NOT NULL THEN
         CALL SP_Reporting_2(tablename);
     END IF;
END;

CREATE PROCEDURE SP_Reporting_2(IN tablename VARCHAR(20))
BEGIN
     #proceed with code
END;

Read specific columns from a csv file with csv module?

Context: For this type of work you should use the amazing python petl library. That will save you a lot of work and potential frustration from doing things 'manually' with the standard csv module. AFAIK, the only people who still use the csv module are those who have not yet discovered better tools for working with tabular data (pandas, petl, etc.), which is fine, but if you plan to work with a lot of data in your career from various strange sources, learning something like petl is one of the best investments you can make. To get started should only take 30 minutes after you've done pip install petl. The documentation is excellent.

Answer: Let's say you have the first table in a csv file (you can also load directly from the database using petl). Then you would simply load it and do the following.

from petl import fromcsv, look, cut, tocsv

#Load the table
table1 = fromcsv('table1.csv')
# Alter the colums
table2 = cut(table1, 'Song_Name','Artist_ID')
#have a quick look to make sure things are ok. Prints a nicely formatted table to your console
print look(table2)
# Save to new file
tocsv(table2, 'new.csv')

Displaying Image in Java

Running your code shows an image for me, after adjusting the path. Can you verify that your image path is correct, try absolute path for instance?

Why can't I have "public static const string S = "stuff"; in my Class?

From the C# language specification (PDF page 287 - or 300th page of the PDF):

Even though constants are considered static members, a constant declaration neither requires nor allows a static modifier.

Eclipse does not highlight matching variables

Alt + Shift + o
Will solve your problem and agree with @Korhan Ozturk as well :)

This is known as Toggle Mark occurrence (Alt + Shift + O), Means will highlight all occurrence of focused variable. Same thing can be achieved from tool bar as follows

enter image description here

In same tool bar there is another switch if you turn that on you will see complete path for opened file, That is Breadcrumb enter image description here

there are some more very useful switches like word wrap, Show white Characters just after toggle mark occurrence

Must declare the scalar variable

This is most likely not an answer to the issue itself but this question pops up as first result when searching for Sql declare scalar variable hence i share a possible solution to this error.

In my case this error was caused by the use of ; after a SQL statement. Just remove it and the error will be gone.

I guess the cause is the same as @IronSean already posted in an comment above:

it's worth noting that using GO (or in this case ;) causes a new branch where declared variables aren't visible past the statement.

For example:

DECLARE @id int
SET @id = 78

SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE Id = @var; <-- remove this character to avoid the error message
SELECT * FROM AnotherTable WHERE MyTableId = @var

Subset data.frame by date

The first thing you should do with date variables is confirm that R reads it as a Date. To do this, for the variable (i.e. vector/column) called Date, in the data frame called EPL2011_12, input

class(EPL2011_12$Date)

The output should read [1] "Date". If it doesn't, you should format it as a date by inputting

EPL2011_12$Date <- as.Date(EPL2011_12$Date, "%d-%m-%y")

Note that the hyphens in the date format ("%d-%m-%y") above can also be slashes ("%d/%m/%y"). Confirm that R sees it as a Date. If it doesn't, try a different formatting command

EPL2011_12$Date <- format(EPL2011_12$Date, format="%d/%m/%y")

Once you have it in Date format, you can use the subset command, or you can use brackets

WhateverYouWant <- EPL2011_12[EPL2011_12$Date > as.Date("2014-12-15"),]

Using GZIP compression with Spring Boot/MVC/JavaConfig with RESTful

Enabeling GZip in Tomcat doesn't worked in my Spring Boot Project. I used CompressingFilter found here.

@Bean
public Filter compressingFilter() {
    CompressingFilter compressingFilter = new CompressingFilter();
    return compressingFilter;
}

Android and Facebook share intent

I found out you can only share either Text or Image, not both using Intents. Below code shares only Image if exists, or only Text if Image does not exits. If you want to share both, you need to use Facebook SDK from here.

If you use other solution instead of below code, don't forget to specify package name com.facebook.lite as well, which is package name of Facebook Lite. I haven't test but com.facebook.orca is package name of Facebook Messenger if you want to target that too.

You can add more methods for sharing with WhatsApp, Twitter ...

public class IntentShareHelper {

    /**
     * <b>Beware,</b> this shares only image if exists, or only text if image does not exits. Can't share both
     */
    public static void shareOnFacebook(AppCompatActivity appCompatActivity, String textBody, Uri fileUri) {
        Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND);
        intent.setType("text/plain");
        intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TEXT,!TextUtils.isEmpty(textBody) ? textBody : "");

        if (fileUri != null) {
            intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, fileUri);
            intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION);
            intent.setType("image/*");
        }

        boolean facebookAppFound = false;
        List<ResolveInfo> matches = appCompatActivity.getPackageManager().queryIntentActivities(intent, PackageManager.MATCH_DEFAULT_ONLY);
        for (ResolveInfo info : matches) {
            if (info.activityInfo.packageName.toLowerCase().startsWith("com.facebook.katana") ||
                info.activityInfo.packageName.toLowerCase().startsWith("com.facebook.lite")) {
                intent.setPackage(info.activityInfo.packageName);
                facebookAppFound = true;
                break;
            }
        }

        if (facebookAppFound) {
            appCompatActivity.startActivity(intent);
        } else {
            showWarningDialog(appCompatActivity, appCompatActivity.getString(R.string.error_activity_not_found));
        }
    }

    public static void shareOnWhatsapp(AppCompatActivity appCompatActivity, String textBody, Uri fileUri){...}

    private static void showWarningDialog(Context context, String message) {
        new AlertDialog.Builder(context)
                .setMessage(message)
                .setNegativeButton(context.getString(R.string.close), new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                    @Override
                    public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                        dialog.dismiss();
                    }
                })
                .setCancelable(true)
                .create().show();
    }
}

For getting Uri from File, use below class:

public class UtilityFile {
    public static @Nullable Uri getUriFromFile(Context context, @Nullable File file) {
        if (file == null)
            return null;

        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
            try {
                return FileProvider.getUriForFile(context, "com.my.package.fileprovider", file);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
                return null;
            }
        } else {
            return Uri.fromFile(file);
        }
    }

    // Returns the URI path to the Bitmap displayed in specified ImageView
    public static Uri getLocalBitmapUri(Context context, ImageView imageView) {
        Drawable drawable = imageView.getDrawable();
        Bitmap bmp = null;
        if (drawable instanceof BitmapDrawable) {
            bmp = ((BitmapDrawable) imageView.getDrawable()).getBitmap();
        } else {
            return null;
        }
        // Store image to default external storage directory
        Uri bmpUri = null;
        try {
            // Use methods on Context to access package-specific directories on external storage.
            // This way, you don't need to request external read/write permission.
            File file = new File(context.getExternalFilesDir(Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES), "share_image_" + System.currentTimeMillis() + ".png");
            FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(file);
            bmp.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 90, out);
            out.close();

            bmpUri = getUriFromFile(context, file);
        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
        return bmpUri;
    }
}

Indent multiple lines quickly in vi

A quick way to do this using VISUAL MODE uses the same process as commenting a block of code.

This is useful if you would prefer not to change your shiftwidth or use any set directives and is flexible enough to work with TABS or SPACES or any other character.

  1. Position cursor at the beginning on the block
  2. v to switch to -- VISUAL MODE --
  3. Select the text to be indented
  4. Type : to switch to the prompt
  5. Replacing with 3 leading spaces:

    :'<,'>s/^/ /g

  6. Or replacing with leading tabs:

    :'<,'>s/^/\t/g

  7. Brief Explanation:

    '<,'> - Within the Visually Selected Range

    s/^/ /g - Insert 3 spaces at the beginning of every line within the whole range

    (or)

    s/^/\t/g - Insert Tab at the beginning of every line within the whole range

Return values from the row above to the current row

You can also use =OFFSET([@column];-1;0) if you are in a named table.
