Missing Push Notification Entitlement

For those running into this issue who actually are using Push Notifications in their apps:

Our push certs were recently about to expire, so we created new dev / prod push certs in the standard way outlined by Apple (I won't go into detail around this here, there is plenty of info on it all over the web when updating your push certs for another year of use).

After doing so however, the issue in this question popped up. No matter what we did, we received this email from Apple after submitting our app. When we checked the settings of our Distribution Provisioning Profile in the Apple Member Center, everything looked fine (Push was enabled for our App ID for both prod / dev, and our distribution provisioning profile was still connected to this App ID, we literally just created new push certs for another year as is the standard practice).

Finally, this is what ended up solving it for me:

  1. Create a new Distribution Provisioning Profile pointing to your App ID (leave your current one in tact)
  2. In Xcode, refresh your provisioning profiles via Settings > Accounts > Select your account > Details > Click the refresh icon
  3. Manually create an entitlements plist file for your app:
    • File menu > New File...
    • Select iOS > Resource > Property List
    • Name the new file "foo.entitlements" (typically, "foo" is the target name)
    • Click the (+) next to "Entitlements File" to add a top-level item (the property list editor will use the correct schema due to the file extension)
  4. Ensure this entitlements file is being used in your target's Build Settings (Target > Build Settings > Search for "Entitlements", in the CODE_SIGN_ENTITLEMENTS set the path to your Entitlements file you just made)
  5. Make sure the provisioning profile / code signing identity in your Target is set correctly to your appropriate distribution provisioning profile / signing identity (this should be obvious)
  6. I'm not 100% sure if this affected it (it shouldn't since Target settings override project settings, but I did this anyways), make sure your Project's provisioning profile / signing identity match your Target's
  7. In the entitlements file you made, right click in the empty file and select "Show Raw Keys/Values"
  8. Add a new entry to the entitlements file called "aps-environment" and set it's value to "production"
  9. One key note, if you were previously using the keychain-access-groups entitlement, you'll want to add that key here as well because for some reason it got cleared for me when doing this manually. Make sure the value is the same as the value used in previous builds (you can find the value by finding a previous build in Organizer, attempting to submit to the app store, select your team, then before submitting the app tap the arrow beside the "(X) Entitlements" string to expand the entitlements and see the value of the keychain-access-group entitlement.
  10. Archive your app and attempt to submit it to the point of getting to the final "Submit" button. You should see this app was now built with the new provisioning profile you created in member center. Cancel out of this now.
  11. Go back to the Apple member center and delete the new provisioning profile you created in step 1.
  12. Back in Xcode, refresh your provisioning profiles list once again by repeating step 2.
  13. Now archive your app again, and you should see that the app was built with the old Distribution provisioning profile you wanted to use, and correctly has the aps-environment entitlement. Submit and you're done.

I know this isn't as detailed as it should be as it should have screenshots, I will try to update it with screenshots when I can but for the time being I'm in a time crunch right now and wanted to get the jist of what I did out there. There is also a very likely chance that some or most of the steps I've outlined aren't necessary, I'm putting them here because I did them and they may have led to the final solution.

Possible cases for Javascript error: "Expected identifier, string or number"

I came across this error where rather than a trailing comma or some such, this syntax had been used in a constants.js

    var titles = {
      [title.X]: 'X title',
      [title.Y]: 'Y title'
    }

IE 11 did not like this at all.

As previously mentioned though this was easily fixed by using

   var titles = {
     'title.X': 'X title',
     'title.Y': 'Y title'
   }

Is key-value observation (KVO) available in Swift?

One important thing to mention is that after updating your Xcode to 7 beta you might be getting the following message: "Method does not override any method from its superclass". That's because of the arguments' optionality. Make sure that your observation handler looks exactly as follows:

override func observeValueForKeyPath(keyPath: String?, ofObject object: AnyObject?, change: [NSObject : AnyObject]?, context: UnsafeMutablePointer<Void>)

How to convert a Java object (bean) to key-value pairs (and vice versa)?

Lots of potential solutions, but let's add just one more. Use Jackson (JSON processing lib) to do "json-less" conversion, like:

ObjectMapper m = new ObjectMapper();
Map<String,Object> props = m.convertValue(myBean, Map.class);
MyBean anotherBean = m.convertValue(props, MyBean.class);

(this blog entry has some more examples)

You can basically convert any compatible types: compatible meaning that if you did convert from type to JSON, and from that JSON to result type, entries would match (if configured properly can also just ignore unrecognized ones).

Works well for cases one would expect, including Maps, Lists, arrays, primitives, bean-like POJOs.

How to hide UINavigationBar 1px bottom line

Right pad a string with variable number of spaces

Whammo blammo (for leading spaces):

SELECT
    RIGHT(space(60) + cust_name, 60),
    RIGHT(space(60) + cust_address, 60)

OR (for trailing spaces)

SELECT
    LEFT(cust_name + space(60), 60),
    LEFT(cust_address + space(60), 60),

R: Comment out block of code

Most of the editors take some kind of shortcut to comment out blocks of code. The default editors use something like command or control and single quote to comment out selected lines of code. In RStudio it's Command or Control+/. Check in your editor.

It's still commenting line by line, but they also uncomment selected lines as well. For the Mac RGUI it's command-option ' (I'm imagining windows is control option). For Rstudio it's just Command or Control + Shift + C again.

These shortcuts will likely change over time as editors get updated and different software becomes the most popular R editors. You'll have to look it up for whatever software you have.

How to disable margin-collapsing?

Every webkit based browser should support the properties -webkit-margin-collapse. There are also subproperties to only set it for the top or bottom margin. You can give it the values collapse (default), discard (sets margin to 0 if there is a neighboring margin), and separate (prevents margin collapse).

I've tested that this works on 2014 versions of Chrome and Safari. Unfortunately, I don't think this would be supported in IE because it's not based on webkit.

Read Apple's Safari CSS Reference for a full explanation.

If you check Mozilla's CSS webkit extensions page, they list these properties as proprietary and recommend not to use them. This is because they're likely not going to go into standard CSS anytime soon and only webkit based browsers will support them.

Get a DataTable Columns DataType

You could always use typeof in the if statement. It is better than working with string values like the answer of Natarajan.

if (dt.Columns[0].DataType == typeof(DateTime))
{
}

What is the instanceof operator in JavaScript?

On the question "When is it appropriate and when not?", my 2 cents:

instanceof is rarely useful in production code, but useful in tests where you want to assert that your code returns / creates objects of the correct types. By being explicit about the kinds of objects your code is returning / creating, your tests become more powerful as a tool for understanding and documenting your code.

Set value for particular cell in pandas DataFrame with iloc

One thing I would add here is that the at function on a dataframe is much faster particularly if you are doing a lot of assignments of individual (not slice) values.

df.at[index, 'col_name'] = x

In my experience I have gotten a 20x speedup. Here is a write up that is Spanish but still gives an impression of what's going on.

What is an 'undeclared identifier' error and how do I fix it?

They most often come from forgetting to include the header file that contains the function declaration, for example, this program will give an 'undeclared identifier' error:

Missing header

int main() {
    std::cout << "Hello world!" << std::endl;
    return 0;
}

To fix it, we must include the header:

#include <iostream>
int main() {
    std::cout << "Hello world!" << std::endl;
    return 0;
}

If you wrote the header and included it correctly, the header may contain the wrong include guard.

To read more, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa229215(v=vs.60).aspx.

Misspelled variable

Another common source of beginner's error occur when you misspelled a variable:

int main() {
    int aComplicatedName;
    AComplicatedName = 1;  /* mind the uppercase A */
    return 0;
}

Incorrect scope

For example, this code would give an error, because you need to use std::string:

#include <string>

int main() {
    std::string s1 = "Hello"; // Correct.
    string s2 = "world"; // WRONG - would give error.
}

Use before declaration

void f() { g(); }
void g() { }

g has not been declared before its first use. To fix it, either move the definition of g before f:

void g() { }
void f() { g(); }

Or add a declaration of g before f:

void g(); // declaration
void f() { g(); }
void g() { } // definition

stdafx.h not on top (VS-specific)

This is Visual Studio-specific. In VS, you need to add #include "stdafx.h" before any code. Code before it is ignored by the compiler, so if you have this:

#include <iostream>
#include "stdafx.h"

The #include <iostream> would be ignored. You need to move it below:

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <iostream>

What is stability in sorting algorithms and why is it important?

If you assume what you are sorting are just numbers and only their values identify/distinguish them (e.g. elements with same value are identicle), then the stability-issue of sorting is meaningless.

However, objects with same priority in sorting may be distinct, and sometime their relative order is meaningful information. In this case, unstable sort generates problems.

For example, you have a list of data which contains the time cost [T] of all players to clean a maze with Level [L] in a game. Suppose we need to rank the players by how fast they clean the maze. However, an additional rule applies: players who clean the maze with higher-level always have a higher rank, no matter how long the time cost is.

Of course you might try to map the paired value [T,L] to a real number [R] with some algorithm which follows the rules and then rank all players with [R] value.

However, if stable sorting is feasible, then you may simply sort the entire list by [T] (Faster players first) and then by [L]. In this case, the relative order of players (by time cost) will not be changed after you grouped them by level of maze they cleaned.

PS: of course the approach to sort twice is not the best solution to the particular problem but to explain the question of poster it should be enough.

How to copy part of an array to another array in C#?

In case if you want to implement your own Array.Copy method.

Static method which is of generic type.

 static void MyCopy<T>(T[] sourceArray, long sourceIndex, T[] destinationArray, long destinationIndex, long copyNoOfElements)
 {
  long totaltraversal = sourceIndex + copyNoOfElements;
  long sourceArrayLength = sourceArray.Length;

  //to check all array's length and its indices properties before copying
  CheckBoundaries(sourceArray, sourceIndex, destinationArray, copyNoOfElements, sourceArrayLength);
   for (long i = sourceIndex; i < totaltraversal; i++)
     {
      destinationArray[destinationIndex++] = sourceArray[i];
     }
  }

Boundary method implementation.

private static void CheckBoundaries<T>(T[] sourceArray, long sourceIndex, T[] destinationArray, long copyNoOfElements, long sourceArrayLength)
        {
            if (sourceIndex >= sourceArray.Length)
            {
                throw new IndexOutOfRangeException();
            }
            if (copyNoOfElements > sourceArrayLength)
            {
                throw new IndexOutOfRangeException();
            }
            if (destinationArray.Length < copyNoOfElements)
            {
                throw new IndexOutOfRangeException();
            }
        }

How to create permanent PowerShell Aliases

This is a little bit fancy... but it works:

Step 1: Create a Powershell Profile:

FILE: install_profile.ps1
# THIS SCRIPT BLOWS AWAY YOUR DEFAULT POWERSHELL PROFILE SCRIPT
# AND INSTALLS A POINTER TO A GLOBAL POWERSHELL PROFILE

$ErrorActionPreference = "Stop"

function print ([string]$msg)
{
    Write-Host -ForegroundColor Green $msg
}

print ""

# User's Powershell Profile
$psdir  = "$env:USERPROFILE\Documents\WindowsPowerShell"
$psfile = $psdir + "\Microsoft.PowerShell_profile.ps1"

print "Creating Directory: $psdir"
md $psdir -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | out-null

# this is your auto-generated powershell profile to be installed
$content = @(
    "",
    ". ~/Documents/tools/profile.ps1",
    ""
)

print "Creating File: $psfile"
[System.IO.File]::WriteAllLines($psfile, $content)

print ""

# Make sure Powershell profile is readable
Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser Unrestricted

Step 2: then in tools ~/Documents/tools/profile.ps1:

function Do-ActualThing {
    # do actual thing
}

Set-Alias MyAlias Do-ActualThing

Step 3:

$ Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser Unrestricted $ . ./install_profile.ps1

Apache Tomcat Not Showing in Eclipse Server Runtime Environments

In my case I needed to install "JST Server Adapters". I am running Eclipse 3.6 Helios RCP Edition.

Here are the steps I followed:

  1. Help -> Install New Software
  2. Choose "Helios - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/helios" site or kepler - http://download.ecliplse.org/releases/kepler
  3. Expand "Web, XML, and Java EE Development"
  4. Check JST Server Adapters (version 3.2.2)

After that I could define new Server Runtime Environments.

EDIT: With Eclipse 3.7 Indigo Classic, Eclipse Kepler and Luna, the steps are the same (with appropriate update site) but you need both JST Server Adapters and JST Server Adapters Extentions to get the Server Runtime Environment options.

Query-string encoding of a Javascript Object

A small amendment to the accepted solution by user187291:

serialize = function(obj) {
   var str = [];
   for(var p in obj){
       if (obj.hasOwnProperty(p)) {
           str.push(encodeURIComponent(p) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(obj[p]));
       }
   }
   return str.join("&");
}

Checking for hasOwnProperty on the object makes JSLint/JSHint happy, and it prevents accidentally serializing methods of the object or other stuff if the object is anything but a simple dictionary. See the paragraph on for statements in this page: http://javascript.crockford.com/code.html

android edittext onchange listener

First, you can see if the user finished editing the text if the EditText loses focus or if the user presses the done button (this depends on your implementation and on what fits the best for you). Second, you can't get an EditText instance within the TextWatcher only if you have declared the EditText as an instance object. Even though you shouldn't edit the EditText within the TextWatcher because it is not safe.

EDIT:

To be able to get the EditText instance into your TextWatcher implementation, you should try something like this:

public class YourClass extends Activity {

    private EditText yourEditText;

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        setContentView(R.layout.main);
        yourEditText = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.yourEditTextId);

        yourEditText.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() {

            public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {

                // you can call or do what you want with your EditText here

                // yourEditText...
            }

            public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {}

            public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) {}
        });
    }
}

Note that the above sample might have some errors but I just wanted to show you an example.

Set object property using reflection

I have just published a Nuget package that allows setting up not only the first level Properties but also nested properties in the given object in any depth.

Here is the package

Sets the value of a property of an object by its path from the root.

The object can be a complex object and the property can be multi level deep nested property or it can be a property directly under the root. ObjectWriter will find the property using the property path parameter and update its value. Property path is the appended names of the properties visited from root to the end node property which we want to set, delimited by the delimiter string parameter.

Usage:

For setting up the properties directly under the object root:

Ie. LineItem class has an int property called ItemId

LineItem lineItem = new LineItem();

ObjectWriter.Set(lineItem, "ItemId", 13, delimiter: null);

For setting up nested property multiple levels below the object root:

Ie. Invite class has a property called State, which has a property called Invite (of Invite type), which has a property called Recipient, which has a property called Id.

To make things even more complex, the State property is not a reference type, it is a struct.

Here is how you can set the Id property (to string value of “outlook”) at the bottom of the object tree in a single line.

Invite invite = new Invite();

ObjectWriter.Set(invite, "State_Invite_Recipient_Id", "outlook", delimiter: "_");

Unpivot with column name

Your query is very close. You should be able to use the following which includes the subject in the final select list:

select u.name, u.subject, u.marks
from student s
unpivot
(
  marks
  for subject in (Maths, Science, English)
) u;

How to run certain task every day at a particular time using ScheduledExecutorService?

In Java 8:

scheduler = Executors.newScheduledThreadPool(1);

//Change here for the hour you want ----------------------------------.at()
Long midnight=LocalDateTime.now().until(LocalDate.now().plusDays(1).atStartOfDay(), ChronoUnit.MINUTES);
scheduler.scheduleAtFixedRate(this, midnight, 1440, TimeUnit.MINUTES);

Group by with multiple columns using lambda

Further to aduchis answer above - if you then need to filter based on those group by keys, you can define a class to wrap the many keys.

return customers.GroupBy(a => new CustomerGroupingKey(a.Country, a.Gender))
                .Where(a => a.Key.Country == "Ireland" && a.Key.Gender == "M")
                .SelectMany(a => a)
                .ToList();

Where CustomerGroupingKey takes the group keys:

    private class CustomerGroupingKey
    {
        public CustomerGroupingKey(string country, string gender)
        {
            Country = country;
            Gender = gender;
        }

        public string Country { get; }

        public string Gender { get; }
    }

Export table from database to csv file

And when you want all tables for some reason ?

You can generate these commands in SSMS:

SELECT
CONCAT('sqlcmd -S ',
'Your(local?)SERVERhere'
,' -d',
'YourDB'
,' -E -s, -W -Q "SELECT * FROM ',
TABLE_NAME,
'" >',
TABLE_NAME,
'.csv') FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES

And get again rows like this

sqlcmd -S ... -d... -E -s, -W -Q "SELECT * FROM table1" >table1.csv
sqlcmd -S ... -d... -E -s, -W -Q "SELECT * FROM table2" >table2.csv
...

There is also option to use better TAB as delimiter, but it would need a strange Unicode character - using Alt+9 in CMD, it came like this ? (Unicode CB25), but works only by copy/paste to command line not in batch.

Then use it by:

angular-cli server - how to proxy API requests to another server?

UPDATE 2017

Better documentation is now available and you can use both JSON and JavaScript based configurations: angular-cli documentation proxy

sample https proxy configuration

{
  "/angular": {
     "target":  {
       "host": "github.com",
       "protocol": "https:",
       "port": 443
     },
     "secure": false,
     "changeOrigin": true,
     "logLevel": "info"
  }
}

To my knowledge with Angular 2.0 release setting up proxies using .ember-cli file is not recommended. official way is like below

  1. edit "start" of your package.json to look below

    "start": "ng serve --proxy-config proxy.conf.json",

  2. create a new file called proxy.conf.json in the root of the project and inside of that define your proxies like below

    {
      "/api": {
        "target": "http://api.yourdomai.com",
        "secure": false
      }
    }

  3. Important thing is that you use npm start instead of ng serve

Replace HTML Table with Divs

You can create simple float-based forms without having to lose your liquid layout. For example:

<style type="text/css">
    .row { clear: left; padding: 6px; }
    .row label { float: left; width: 10em; }
    .row .field { display: block; margin-left: 10em; }
    .row .field input, .row .field select {
        width: 100%;
        box-sizing: border-box;
        -moz-box-sizing: border-box; -webkit-box-sizing: border-box; -khtml-box-sizing: border-box;
    }
</style>

<div class="row">
    <label for="f-firstname">First name</label>
    <span class="field"><input name="firstname" id="f-firstname" value="Bob" /></span>
</div>
<div class="row">
    <label for="f-state">State</label>
    <span class="field"><select name="state" id="f-state">
        <option value="NY">NY</option>
    </select></span>
</div>

This does tend to break down, though, when you have complex form layouts where there's a grid of multiple fixed and flexible width columns. At that point you have to decide whether to stick with divs and abandon liquid layout in favour of just dropping everything into fixed pixel positions, or let tables do it.

For me personally, liquid layout is a more important usability feature than the exact elements used to lay out the form, so I usually go for tables.

How do I make a checkbox required on an ASP.NET form?

I typically perform the validation on the client side:

<asp:checkbox id="chkTerms" text=" I agree to the terms" ValidationGroup="vg" runat="Server"  />
<asp:CustomValidator id="vTerms"
                ClientValidationFunction="validateTerms"
                ErrorMessage="<br/>Terms and Conditions are required."
                ForeColor="Red"
                Display="Static"
                EnableClientScript="true"
                ValidationGroup="vg"
                runat="server"/>

<asp:Button ID="btnSubmit" OnClick="btnSubmit_Click" CausesValidation="true" Text="Submit" ValidationGroup="vg" runat="server" />

<script>
    function validateTerms(source, arguments) {
        var $c = $('#<%= chkTerms.ClientID %>');
        if($c.prop("checked")){
            arguments.IsValid = true;
        } else {
            arguments.IsValid = false;
        }
    }
</script>

Setting environment variables in Linux using Bash

Set a local and environment variable using Bash on Linux

Check for a local or environment variables for a variable called LOL in Bash:

el@server /home/el $ set | grep LOL
el@server /home/el $
el@server /home/el $ env | grep LOL
el@server /home/el $

Sanity check, no local or environment variable called LOL.

Set a local variable called LOL in local, but not environment. So set it:

el@server /home/el $ LOL="so wow much code"
el@server /home/el $ set | grep LOL
LOL='so wow much code'
el@server /home/el $ env | grep LOL
el@server /home/el $

Variable 'LOL' exists in local variables, but not environment variables. LOL will disappear if you restart the terminal, logout/login or run exec bash.

Set a local variable, and then clear out all local variables in Bash

el@server /home/el $ LOL="so wow much code"
el@server /home/el $ set | grep LOL
LOL='so wow much code'
el@server /home/el $ exec bash
el@server /home/el $ set | grep LOL
el@server /home/el $

You could also just unset the one variable:

el@server /home/el $ LOL="so wow much code"
el@server /home/el $ set | grep LOL
LOL='so wow much code'
el@server /home/el $ unset LOL
el@server /home/el $ set | grep LOL
el@server /home/el $

Local variable LOL is gone.

Promote a local variable to an environment variable:

el@server /home/el $ DOGE="such variable"
el@server /home/el $ export DOGE
el@server /home/el $ set | grep DOGE
DOGE='such variable'
el@server /home/el $ env | grep DOGE
DOGE=such variable

Note that exporting makes it show up as both a local variable and an environment variable.

Exported variable DOGE above survives a Bash reset:

el@server /home/el $ exec bash
el@server /home/el $ env | grep DOGE
DOGE=such variable
el@server /home/el $ set | grep DOGE
DOGE='such variable'

Unset all environment variables:

You have to pull out a can of Chuck Norris to reset all environment variables without a logout/login:

el@server /home/el $ export CAN="chuck norris"
el@server /home/el $ env | grep CAN
CAN=chuck norris
el@server /home/el $ set | grep CAN
CAN='chuck norris'
el@server /home/el $ env -i bash
el@server /home/el $ set | grep CAN
el@server /home/el $ env | grep CAN

You created an environment variable, and then reset the terminal to get rid of them.

Or you could set and unset an environment variable manually like this:

el@server /home/el $ export FOO="bar"
el@server /home/el $ env | grep FOO
FOO=bar
el@server /home/el $ unset FOO
el@server /home/el $ env | grep FOO
el@server /home/el $

CocoaPods Errors on Project Build

I had the same issue. After retracing my recent steps, I found that adding a target declaration for a new target, followed by running pod install, was the cause of the problem:

enter image description here

Resetting my branch and cleaning my project did not work, since Cocoapods modified at least one file that is not under source control. I know this because once I reset the remote branch to a commit before adding the extra target, and re-cloned the repo, the problem no longer existed.

How do I get the last word in each line with bash

Another way of doing this in plain bash is making use of the rev command like this:

cat file | rev | cut -d" " -f1 | rev | tr -d "." | tr "\n" ","

Basically, you reverse the lines of the file, then split them with cut using space as the delimiter, take the first field that cut produces and then you reverse the token again, use tr -d to delete unwanted chars and tr again to replace newline chars with ,

Also, you can avoid the first cat by doing:

rev < file | cut -d" " -f1 | rev | tr -d "." | tr "\n" ","

Quickly create a large file on a Linux system

I don't think you're going to get much faster than dd. The bottleneck is the disk; writing hundreds of GB of data to it is going to take a long time no matter how you do it.

But here's a possibility that might work for your application. If you don't care about the contents of the file, how about creating a "virtual" file whose contents are the dynamic output of a program? Instead of open()ing the file, use popen() to open a pipe to an external program. The external program generates data whenever it's needed. Once the pipe is open, it acts just like a regular file in that the program that opened the pipe can fseek(), rewind(), etc. You'll need to use pclose() instead of close() when you're done with the pipe.

If your application needs the file to be a certain size, it will be up to the external program to keep track of where in the "file" it is and send an eof when the "end" has been reached.

What is WebKit and how is it related to CSS?

Webkit is a web browser rendering engine used by Safari and Chrome (among others, but these are the popular ones).

The -webkit prefix on CSS selectors are properties that only this engine is intended to process, very similar to -moz properties. Many of us are hoping this goes away, for example -webkit-border-radius will be replaced by the standard border-radius and you won't need multiple rules for the same thing for multiple browsers. This is really the result of "pre-specification" features that are intended to not interfere with the standard version when it comes about.

For your update:...no it's not related to IE really, IE at least before 9 uses a different rendering engine called Trident.

MySQL LEFT JOIN Multiple Conditions

SELECT * FROM a WHERE a.group_id IN
(SELECT group_id FROM b WHERE b.user_id!=$_SESSION{'[user_id']} AND b.group_id = a.group_id)
WHERE a.keyword LIKE '%".$keyword."%';

error code 1292 incorrect date value mysql

An update. Dates of the form '2019-08-00' will trigger the same error. Adding the lines:

[mysqld]

sql_mode="NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION"

to mysql.cnf fixes this too. Inserting malformed dates now generates warnings for values out of range but does insert the data.

Subset data to contain only columns whose names match a condition

You can also use starts_with and dplyr's select() like so:

df <- df %>% dplyr:: select(starts_with("ABC"))

Excel add one hour

This may help you as well. This is a conditional statement that will fill the cell with a default date if it is empty but will subtract one hour if it is a valid date/time and put it into the cell.

=IF((Sheet1!C4)="",DATE(1999,1,1),Sheet1!C4-TIME(1,0,0))

You can also substitute TIME with DATE to add or subtract a date or time.

Recommended SQL database design for tags or tagging

Use a single formatted text column[1] for storing the tags and use a capable full text search engine to index this. Else you will run into scaling problems when trying to implement boolean queries.

If you need details about the tags you have, you can either keep track of it in a incrementally maintained table or run a batch job to extract the information.

[1] Some RDBMS even provide a native array type which might be even better suited for storage by not needing a parsing step, but might cause problems with the full text search.

Adding image to JFrame

There is no specialized image component provided in Swing (which is sad in my opinion). So, there are a few options:

  1. As @Reimeus said: Use a JLabel with an icon.
  2. Create in the window builder a JPanel, that will represent the location of the image. Then add your own custom image component to the JPanel using a few lines of code you will never have to change. They should look like this:

    JImageComponent ic = new JImageComponent(myImageGoesHere);
    imagePanel.add(ic);

    where JImageComponent is a self created class that extends JComponent that overrides the paintComponent() method to draw the image.

Reading e-mails from Outlook with Python through MAPI

I have created my own iterator to iterate over Outlook objects via python. The issue is that python tries to iterates starting with Index[0], but outlook expects for first item Index[1]... To make it more Ruby simple, there is below a helper class Oli with following methods:

.items() - yields a tuple(index, Item)...

.prop() - helping to introspect outlook object exposing available properties (methods and attributes)

from win32com.client import constants
from win32com.client.gencache import EnsureDispatch as Dispatch

outlook = Dispatch("Outlook.Application")
mapi = outlook.GetNamespace("MAPI")

class Oli():
    def __init__(self, outlook_object):
        self._obj = outlook_object

    def items(self):
        array_size = self._obj.Count
        for item_index in xrange(1,array_size+1):
            yield (item_index, self._obj[item_index])

    def prop(self):
        return sorted( self._obj._prop_map_get_.keys() )

for inx, folder in Oli(mapi.Folders).items():
    # iterate all Outlook folders (top level)
    print "-"*70
    print folder.Name

    for inx,subfolder in Oli(folder.Folders).items():
        print "(%i)" % inx, subfolder.Name,"=> ", subfolder

Change the current directory from a Bash script

Basically we use cd.. to come back from every directory. I thought to make it more easy by giving the number of directories with which you need to come back at a time. You can implement this using a separate script file using the alias command . For example:

code.sh

#!/bin/sh
 _backfunc(){
 if [ "$1" -eq 1 ]; then
  cd ..
 elif [ "$1" -eq 2 ]; then
  cd ../..
 elif [ "$1" -eq 3 ]; then
  cd ../../..
 elif [ "$1" -eq 4 ]; then
  cd ../../../..
 elif ["$1" -eq 10]; then
  cd /home/arun/Documents/work
 fi
 }
alias back='_backfunc'

After using source code.sh in the current shell you can use :

$back 2

to come two steps back from the current directory. Explained in detail over here. It is also explained over there how to put the code in ~/.bashrc so that every new shell opened will automatically have this new alias command. You can add new command to go to specific directories by modifying the code by adding more if conditions and different arguments. You can also pull the code from git over here.

INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY error in Android

When I try these solutions.
I solved with:
create a new virtual device( select Google APIs(Google Inc)-API Level 15 replace android 4.0.3-APILevel 15 ) then run again. It solved.

I think it's just because the device have no google apis~

SQL Server IF NOT EXISTS Usage?

Have you verified that there is in fact a row where Staff_Id = @PersonID? What you've posted works fine in a test script, assuming the row exists. If you comment out the insert statement, then the error is raised.

Where does MySQL store database files on Windows and what are the names of the files?

I just installed MySQL 5.7 on Windows7. The database files are located in the following directory which is a hidden one: C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.7\Data

The my.ini file is located in the same root: C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.7

How do I do an OR filter in a Django query?

It is worth to note that it's possible to add Q expressions.

For example:

from django.db.models import Q

query = Q(first_name='mark')
query.add(Q(email='[email protected]'), Q.OR)
query.add(Q(last_name='doe'), Q.AND)

queryset = User.objects.filter(query)

This ends up with a query like :

(first_name = 'mark' or email = '[email protected]') and last_name = 'doe'

This way there is no need to deal with or operators, reduce's etc.

How to add font-awesome to Angular 2 + CLI project

Thought I would throw in my resolution to this since font-awesome is now installed differently according to their documentation.

npm install --save-dev @fortawesome/fontawesome-free

Why it is fortawesome now escapes me but thought I would stick with the most recent version rather than falling back to the old font-awesome.

Then I imported it into my scss

$fa-font-path: "../node_modules/@fortawesome/fontawesome-free/webfonts";
@import "~@fortawesome/fontawesome-free/scss/fontawesome";
@import "~@fortawesome/fontawesome-free/scss/brands";
@import "~@fortawesome/fontawesome-free/scss/regular";
@import "~@fortawesome/fontawesome-free/scss/solid";
@import "~@fortawesome/fontawesome-free/scss/v4-shims";

Hope this helps

python convert list to dictionary

Using the usual grouper recipe, you could do:

Python 2:

d = dict(itertools.izip_longest(*[iter(l)] * 2, fillvalue=""))

Python 3:

d = dict(itertools.zip_longest(*[iter(l)] * 2, fillvalue=""))

How do I tell Maven to use the latest version of a dependency?

Are you possibly depending on development versions that obviously change a lot during development?

Instead of incrementing the version of development releases, you could just use a snapshot version that you overwrite when necessary, which means you wouldn't have to change the version tag on every minor change. Something like 1.0-SNAPSHOT...

But maybe you are trying to achieve something else ;)

Python 3 - ValueError: not enough values to unpack (expected 3, got 2)

You probably want to assign the lastname you are reading out here

lastname = sheet.cell(row=r, column=3).value

to something; currently the program just forgets it

you could do that two lines after, like so

unpaidMembers[name] = lastname, email

your program will still crash at the same place, because .items() still won't give you 3-tuples but rather something that has this structure: (name, (lastname, email))

good news is, python can handle this

for name, (lastname, email) in unpaidMembers.items():

etc.

How to tell a Mockito mock object to return something different the next time it is called?

For all who search to return something and then for another call throw exception:

when(mockFoo.someMethod())
        .thenReturn(obj1)
        .thenReturn(obj2)
        .thenThrow(new RuntimeException("Fail"));

or

when(mockFoo.someMethod())
        .thenReturn(obj1, obj2)
        .thenThrow(new RuntimeException("Fail"));

jQuery $(".class").click(); - multiple elements, click event once

Try making use of the .off() handler:

$(function () {
    $(".archive-link").click(function (e) {
        var linkObj = $(this);
        var cb = $("#confirm-modal");
        cb.find(".modal-body").append("<p>Warning message.</p>");
        cb.modal('show');
        cb.find(".confirm-yes").click(function () {
            $(this).off(); //detach this event
            //ajax call yada yada..
        }

I attach a click event handler on an OK modal button to act on click event of the object with class .archive-link.

On the first click, the event fires only on that .archive-link object that I asked the function to act on (var linkObj). But when I click the same link the second time and hit OK on the modal, the event fires on every object that has .archive-link that I clicked before.

I used the solutions above but unfortunately did not work. It was when I called .off() within the modal OK button click function that the propagation stopped. I hope this helps.

How to compare strings in C conditional preprocessor-directives

The answere by Patrick and by Jesse Chisholm made me do the following:

#define QUEEN 'Q'
#define JACK 'J'

#define CHECK_QUEEN(s) (s==QUEEN)
#define CHECK_JACK(s) (s==JACK)

#define USER 'Q'

[... later on in code ...]

#if CHECK_QUEEN(USER)
  compile_queen_func();
#elif CHECK_JACK(USER)
  compile_jack_func();
#elif
#error "unknown user"
#endif

Instead of #define USER 'Q' #define USER QUEEN should also work but was not tested also works and might be easier to handle.

How do I open multiple instances of Visual Studio Code?

Use

code -n

when launching the program. This "Opens a new session of Visual Studio Code instead of restoring the previous session." (from here).

The way I used this was by modifying my "Code" shortcut to include the -n parameter:

                'SOMEOTHERTEXTGOESHERE'
        end
    end as col1
-- n=1 => returns SOMETEXT regardless of @m
-- n=2 and m=1 => returns SOMEOTHERTEXT
-- n=2 and m=2 => returns SOMEOTHERTEXTGOESHERE

The program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer

You can download the required files from the Microsoft website or online or reinstall the Visual studio 2012 to fix this.

How to pass a value from one jsp to another jsp page?

Use sessions

On your search.jsp

Put your scard in sessions using session.setAttribute("scard","scard")

//the 1st variable is the string name that you will retrieve in ur next page,and the 2nd variable is the its value,i.e the scard value.

And in your next page you retrieve it using session.getAttribute("scard")

UPDATE

how to set font size based on container size?

If you want to set the font-size as a percentage of the viewport width, use the vwunit:

#mydiv { font-size: 5vw; }

The other alternative is to use SVG embedded in the HTML. It will just be a few lines. The font-size attribute to the text element will be interpreted as "user units", for instance those the viewport is defined in terms of. So if you define viewport as 0 0 100 100, then a font-size of 1 will be one one-hundredth of the size of the svg element.

And no, there is no way to do this in CSS using calculations. The problem is that percentages used for font-size, including percentages inside a calculation, are interpreted in terms of the inherited font size, not the size of the container. CSS could use a unit called bw (box-width) for this purpose, so you could say div { font-size: 5bw; }, but I've never heard this proposed.

Removing duplicate values from a PowerShell array

In case you want to be fully bomb prove, this is what I would advice:

@('Apples', 'Apples ', 'APPLES', 'Banana') |
    Sort-Object -Property @{Expression={$_.Trim()}} -Unique

Output:

Apples
Banana

This uses the Property parameter to first Trim() the strings, so extra spaces are removed and then selects only the -Unique values.

What's the difference between Perl's backticks, system, and exec?

In general I use system, open, IPC::Open2, or IPC::Open3 depending on what I want to do. The qx// operator, while simple, is too constraining in its functionality to be very useful outside of quick hacks. I find open to much handier.

system: run a command and wait for it to return

Use system when you want to run a command, don't care about its output, and don't want the Perl script to do anything until the command finishes.

#doesn't spawn a shell, arguments are passed as they are
system("command", "arg1", "arg2", "arg3");

or

#spawns a shell, arguments are interpreted by the shell, use only if you
#want the shell to do globbing (e.g. *.txt) for you or you want to redirect
#output
system("command arg1 arg2 arg3");

qx// or ``: run a command and capture its STDOUT

Use qx// when you want to run a command, capture what it writes to STDOUT, and don't want the Perl script to do anything until the command finishes.

#arguments are always processed by the shell

#in list context it returns the output as a list of lines
my @lines = qx/command arg1 arg2 arg3/;

#in scalar context it returns the output as one string
my $output = qx/command arg1 arg2 arg3/;

exec: replace the current process with another process.

Use exec along with fork when you want to run a command, don't care about its output, and don't want to wait for it to return. system is really just

sub my_system {
    die "could not fork\n" unless defined(my $pid = fork);
    return waitpid $pid, 0 if $pid; #parent waits for child
    exec @_; #replace child with new process
}

You may also want to read the waitpid and perlipc manuals.

open: run a process and create a pipe to its STDIN or STDERR

Use open when you want to write data to a process's STDIN or read data from a process's STDOUT (but not both at the same time).

#read from a gzip file as if it were a normal file
open my $read_fh, "-|", "gzip", "-d", $filename
    or die "could not open $filename: $!";

#write to a gzip compressed file as if were a normal file
open my $write_fh, "|-", "gzip", $filename
    or die "could not open $filename: $!";

IPC::Open2: run a process and create a pipe to both STDIN and STDOUT

Use IPC::Open2 when you need to read from and write to a process's STDIN and STDOUT.

use IPC::Open2;

open2 my $out, my $in, "/usr/bin/bc"
    or die "could not run bc";

print $in "5+6\n";

my $answer = <$out>;

IPC::Open3: run a process and create a pipe to STDIN, STDOUT, and STDERR

use IPC::Open3 when you need to capture all three standard file handles of the process. I would write an example, but it works mostly the same way IPC::Open2 does, but with a slightly different order to the arguments and a third file handle.

Specified cast is not valid.. how to resolve this

If you are expecting double, decimal, float, integer why not use the one which accomodates all namely decimal (128 bits are enough for most numbers you are looking at).

instead of (double)value use decimal.Parse(value.ToString()) or Convert.ToDecimal(value)

C++ pointer to objects

if you want the object on the stack, try this:

MyClass myclass;
myclass.DoSomething();

If you need a pointer to that object:

MyClass* myclassptr = &myclass;
myclassptr->DoSomething();

Twitter Bootstrap - borders

Another solution I ran across tonight, which worked for my needs, was to add box-sizing attributes:

-webkit-box-sizing: border-box;
-moz-box-sizing: border-box;
box-sizing: border-box;

These attributes force the border to be part of the box model's width and height and correct the issue as well.

According to caniuse.com » box-sizing, box-sizing is supported in IE8+.

If you're using LESS or Sass there is a Bootstrap mixin for this.

LESS:

.box-sizing(border-box);

Sass:

@include box-sizing(border-box);

Difference between text and varchar (character varying)

Somewhat OT: If you're using Rails, the standard formatting of webpages may be different. For data entry forms text boxes are scrollable, but character varying (Rails string) boxes are one-line. Show views are as long as needed.

How to get all registered routes in Express?

On Express 3.5.x, I add this before starting the app to print the routes on my terminal :

var routes = app.routes;
for (var verb in routes){
    if (routes.hasOwnProperty(verb)) {
      routes[verb].forEach(function(route){
        console.log(verb + " : "+route['path']);
      });
    }
}

Reducing MongoDB database file size

In case a large chunk of data is deleted from a collection and the collection never uses the deleted space for new documents, this space needs to be returned to the operating system so that it can be used by other databases or collections. You will need to run a compact or repair operation in order to defragment the disk space and regain the usable free space.

Behavior of compaction process is dependent on MongoDB engine as follows

db.runCommand({compact: collection-name })

MMAPv1

Compaction operation defragments data files & indexes. However, it does not release space to the operating system. The operation is still useful to defragment and create more contiguous space for reuse by MongoDB. However, it is of no use though when the free disk space is very low.

An additional disk space up to 2GB is required during the compaction operation.

A database level lock is held during the compaction operation.

WiredTiger

The WiredTiger engine provides compression by default which consumes less disk space than MMAPv1.

The compact process releases the free space to the operating system. Minimal disk space is required to run the compact operation. WiredTiger also blocks all operations on the database as it needs database level lock.

For MMAPv1 engine, compact doest not return the space to operating system. You require to run repair operation to release the unused space.

db.runCommand({repairDatabase: 1})

Command line: search and replace in all filenames matched by grep

Do you mean search and replace a string in all files matched by grep?

perl -p -i -e 's/oldstring/newstring/g' `grep -ril searchpattern *`

Edit

Since this seems to be a fairly popular question thought I'd update.

Nowadays I mostly use ack-grep as it's more user-friendly. So the above command would be:

perl -p -i -e 's/old/new/g' `ack -l searchpattern`

To handle whitespace in file names you can run:

ack --print0 -l searchpattern | xargs -0 perl -p -i -e 's/old/new/g'

you can do more with ack-grep. Say you want to restrict the search to HTML files only:

ack --print0 --html -l searchpattern | xargs -0 perl -p -i -e 's/old/new/g'

And if white space is not an issue it's even shorter:

perl -p -i -e 's/old/new/g' `ack -l --html searchpattern`
perl -p -i -e 's/old/new/g' `ack -f --html` # will match all html files

Make an image width 100% of parent div, but not bigger than its own width

Setting a width of 100% is the full width of the div it's in, not the original full-sized image. There is no way to do that without JavaScript or some other scripting language that can measure the image. If you can have a fixed width or fixed height of the div (like 200px wide) then it shouldn't be too hard to give the image a range to fill. But if you put a 20x20 pixel image in a 200x300 pixel box it will still be distorted.

PHP multidimensional array search by value

Expanding on the function @mayhem created, this example would be more of a "fuzzy" search in case you just want to match part (most) of a search string:

 function searchArrayKeyVal($sKey, $id, $array) {
    foreach ($array as $key => $val) {
        if (strpos(strtolower($val[$sKey]), strtolower(trim($id))) !== false) {
            return $key;
        }
    }
         return false;
 }

For example the value in the array is Welcome to New York! and you wanted the first instance of just "New York!"

Send File Attachment from Form Using phpMailer and PHP

Try:

if (isset($_FILES['uploaded_file']) &&
    $_FILES['uploaded_file']['error'] == UPLOAD_ERR_OK) {
    $mail->AddAttachment($_FILES['uploaded_file']['tmp_name'],
                         $_FILES['uploaded_file']['name']);
}

Basic example can also be found here.

The function definition for AddAttachment is:

public function AddAttachment($path,
                              $name = '',
                              $encoding = 'base64',
                              $type = 'application/octet-stream')

Responsive iframe using Bootstrap

So, youtube gives out the iframe tag as follows:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2EIeUlvHAiM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In my case, i just changed it to width="100%" and left the rest as is. It's not the most elegant solution (after all, in different devices you'll get weird ratios) But the video itself does not get deformed, just the frame.

Output single character in C

As mentioned in one of the other answers, you can use putc(int c, FILE *stream), putchar(int c) or fputc(int c, FILE *stream) for this purpose.

What's important to note is that using any of the above functions is from some to signicantly faster than using any of the format-parsing functions like printf.

Using printf is like using a machine gun to fire one bullet.

Query an object array using linq

Add:

using System.Linq;

to the top of your file.

And then:

Car[] carList = ...
var carMake =
    from item in carList
    where item.Model == "bmw"
    select item.Make;

or if you prefer the fluent syntax:

var carMake = carList
    .Where(item => item.Model == "bmw")
    .Select(item => item.Make);

Things to pay attention to:

  • The usage of item.Make in the select clause instead if s.Make as in your code.
  • You have a whitespace between item and .Model in your where clause

Center a button in a Linear layout

A commonly-used method that works with linear layout is to set a property on the image button

android:layout_gravity="center"

You can choose whether to left-align, center-align, or right-align each object in the linear layout. Note that the above line is precisely the same as

android:layout_gravity="center_vertical|center_horizontal"

How to print a int64_t type in C

Coming from the embedded world, where even uclibc is not always available, and code like

uint64_t myval = 0xdeadfacedeadbeef; printf("%llx", myval);

is printing you crap or not working at all -- i always use a tiny helper, that allows me to dump properly uint64_t hex:

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdint.h>

char* ullx(uint64_t val)
{
    static char buf[34] = { [0 ... 33] = 0 };
    char* out = &buf[33];
    uint64_t hval = val;
    unsigned int hbase = 16;

    do {
        *out = "0123456789abcdef"[hval % hbase];
        --out;
        hval /= hbase;
    } while(hval);

    *out-- = 'x', *out = '0';

    return out;
}

Restful API service

I would highly recommend the REST client Retrofit.

I have found this well written blog post extremely helpful, it also contains simple example code. The author uses Retrofit to make the network calls and Otto to implement a data bus pattern:

How do I check if a string is unicode or ascii?

How to tell if an object is a unicode string or a byte string

You can use type or isinstance.

In Python 2:

>>> type(u'abc')  # Python 2 unicode string literal
<type 'unicode'>
>>> type('abc')   # Python 2 byte string literal
<type 'str'>

In Python 2, str is just a sequence of bytes. Python doesn't know what its encoding is. The unicode type is the safer way to store text. If you want to understand this more, I recommend http://farmdev.com/talks/unicode/.

In Python 3:

>>> type('abc')   # Python 3 unicode string literal
<class 'str'>
>>> type(b'abc')  # Python 3 byte string literal
<class 'bytes'>

In Python 3, str is like Python 2's unicode, and is used to store text. What was called str in Python 2 is called bytes in Python 3.

How to tell if a byte string is valid utf-8 or ascii

You can call decode. If it raises a UnicodeDecodeError exception, it wasn't valid.

>>> u_umlaut = b'\xc3\x9c'   # UTF-8 representation of the letter 'Ü'
>>> u_umlaut.decode('utf-8')
u'\xdc'
>>> u_umlaut.decode('ascii')
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

Xcode 4 - "Valid signing identity not found" error on provisioning profiles on a new Macintosh install

I solved the "Valid signing identity not found" error with more or less:

  1. Make sure that the certificate in your iOS developer program is also listed in your keychain access and is valid (compare the issue dates). If it is not, either transfer it from your old mac using the instructions from apple reference OR delete it from the website and your keychain access and then recreate it, re-download it and drag it over Xcode.
  2. Delete any existing development or distribution provisioning profiles and recreate them based on your new certificate, redownload them and verify from keychain access that everything is valid.

How to Truncate a string in PHP to the word closest to a certain number of characters?

Ok so I got another version of this based on the above answers but taking more things in account(utf-8, \n and &nbsp ; ), also a line stripping the wordpress shortcodes commented if used with wp.

function neatest_trim($content, $chars)
  if (strlen($content) > $chars)
  {
    $content = str_replace('&nbsp;', ' ', $content);
    $content = str_replace("\n", '', $content);
    // use with wordpress
    //$content = strip_tags(strip_shortcodes(trim($content)));
    $content = strip_tags(trim($content));
    $content = preg_replace('/\s+?(\S+)?$/', '', mb_substr($content, 0, $chars));

    $content = trim($content) . '...';
    return $content;
  }

How do I unbind "hover" in jQuery?

I found this works as second argument (function) to .hover()

$('#yourId').hover(
    function(){
        // Your code goes here
    },
    function(){
        $(this).unbind()
    }
});

The first function (argument to .hover()) is mouseover and will execute your code. The second argument is mouseout which will unbind the hover event from #yourId. Your code will be executed only once.

How to programmatically set the layout_align_parent_right attribute of a Button in Relative Layout?

Kotlin version:

Use these extensions with infix functions that simplify later calls

infix fun View.below(view: View) {
    (this.layoutParams as? RelativeLayout.LayoutParams)?.addRule(RelativeLayout.BELOW, view.id)
}

infix fun View.leftOf(view: View) {
    (this.layoutParams as? RelativeLayout.LayoutParams)?.addRule(RelativeLayout.LEFT_OF, view.id)
}

infix fun View.alightParentRightIs(aligned: Boolean) {
    val layoutParams = this.layoutParams as? RelativeLayout.LayoutParams
    if (aligned) {
        (this.layoutParams as? RelativeLayout.LayoutParams)?.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_PARENT_RIGHT)
    } else {
        (this.layoutParams as? RelativeLayout.LayoutParams)?.addRule(RelativeLayout.ALIGN_PARENT_RIGHT, 0)
    }
    this.layoutParams = layoutParams
}

Then use them as infix functions calls:

view1 below view2
view1 leftOf view2
view1 alightParentRightIs true

Or you can use them as normal functions:

view1.below(view2)
view1.leftOf(view2)
view1.alightParentRightIs(true)

Better way to find control in ASP.NET

FindControl does not search within nested controls recursively. It does only find controls that's NamigContainer is the Control on that you are calling FindControl.

Theres a reason that ASP.Net does not look into your nested controls recursively by default:

  • Performance
  • Avoiding errors
  • Reusability

Consider you want to encapsulate your GridViews, Formviews, UserControls etc. inside of other UserControls for reusability reasons. If you would have implemented all logic in your page and accessed these controls with recursive loops, it'll very difficult to refactor that. If you have implemented your logic and access methods via the event-handlers(f.e. RowDataBound of GridView), it'll be much simpler and less error-prone.

Ternary operators in JavaScript without an "else"

You could write

x = condition ? true : x;

So that x is unmodified when the condition is false.

This then is equivalent to

if (condition) x = true

EDIT:

!defaults.slideshowWidth
      ? defaults.slideshowWidth = obj.find('img').width()+'px'
      : null

There are a couple of alternatives - I'm not saying these are better/worse - merely alternatives

Passing in null as the third parameter works because the existing value is null. If you refactor and change the condition, then there is a danger that this is no longer true. Passing in the exising value as the 2nd choice in the ternary guards against this:

!defaults.slideshowWidth =
      ? defaults.slideshowWidth = obj.find('img').width()+'px'
      : defaults.slideshowwidth

Safer, but perhaps not as nice to look at, and more typing. In practice, I'd probably write

defaults.slideshowWidth = defaults.slideshowWidth
               || obj.find('img').width()+'px'

Installing a specific version of angular with angular cli

You can just have package.json with specific version and do npm install and it will install that version. Also you dont need to depend on angular-cli to develop your project.

When should we call System.exit in Java

In that case, it's not needed. No extra threads will have been started up, you're not changing the exit code (which defaults to 0) - basically it's pointless.

When the docs say the method never returns normally, it means the subsequent line of code is effectively unreachable, even though the compiler doesn't know that:

System.exit(0);
System.out.println("This line will never be reached");

Either an exception will be thrown, or the VM will terminate before returning. It will never "just return".

It's very rare to be worth calling System.exit() IME. It can make sense if you're writing a command line tool, and you want to indicate an error via the exit code rather than just throwing an exception... but I can't remember the last time I used it in normal production code.

How to pass a list from Python, by Jinja2 to JavaScript

To add up on the selected answer, I have been testing a new option that is working too using jinja2 and flask:

@app.route('/')
def my_view():
    data = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
    return render_template('index.html', data=data)

The template:

<script>
    console.log( {{ data | tojson }} )
</script>

the output of the rendered template:

<script>
    console.log( [1, 2, 3, 4] )
</script>

The safe could be added but as well like {{ data | tojson | safe }} to avoid html escape but it is working without too.

GET requests can have "Accept" headers, which say which types of content the client understands. The server can then use that to decide which content type to send back.

Spring Boot not serving static content

FYI: I also noticed I can mess up a perfectly working spring boot app and prevent it from serving contents from the static folder, if I add a bad rest controller like so

 @RestController
public class BadController {
    @RequestMapping(method= RequestMethod.POST)
    public String someMethod(@RequestParam(value="date", required=false)String dateString, Model model){
        return "foo";
    }
}

In this example, after adding the bad controller to the project, when the browser asks for a file available in static folder, the error response is '405 Method Not Allowed'.

Notice paths are not mapped in the bad controller example.

Decorating one of the action params with [FromBody] solved the issue for me:

However ASP.NET would infer it correctly if complex object was used in the method parameter:

public async Task<IHttpActionResult> UpdateEntry(string id, MyEntry entry)

fail to change placeholder color with Bootstrap 3

The others did not work in my case (Bootstrap 4). Here is the solution I used.

html .form-control::-webkit-input-placeholder { color:white; }
html .form-control:-moz-placeholder { color:white; }
html .form-control::-moz-placeholder { color:white; }
html .form-control:-ms-input-placeholder { color:white; }

If we use a stronger selector (html first), we don't need to use the hacky value !important.

This overrides bootstraps CSS as we use a higher level of specificity to target .form-control elements (html first instead of .form-control first).

The solution that you can work around is to remove all the entry from sql dump file and import data from GCP console.

cat DUMP_FILE_NAME.sql | sed -e 's/DEFINER=<username>@%//g' > NEW-CLEANED-DUMP.sql

Try importing new file(NEW-CLEANED-DUMP.sql).

How to add a href link in PHP?

Looks like you missed a few closing tags and you nshould have "http://" on the front of an external URL. Also, you should move your styles to external style sheets instead of using inline styles.

.box{
  float:right;
}
.box a img{
  vertical-align: middle;
  border: 0px;
}

<div class="box">

        <img src="<?php echo url::file_loc('img'); ?>media/img/twitter.png" alt="Image Decription">

As noted in other comments, it may be easier to use straight HTML, depending on your exact setup.

How to use OpenSSL to encrypt/decrypt files?

DO NOT USE OPENSSL DEFAULT KEY DERIVATION.

Currently the accepted answer makes use of it and it's no longer recommended and secure.

It is very feasible for an attacker to simply brute force the key.

https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2898.txt

PBKDF1 applies a hash function, which shall be MD2 [6], MD5 [19] or SHA-1 [18], to derive keys. The length of the derived key is bounded by the length of the hash function output, which is 16 octets for MD2 and MD5 and 20 octets for SHA-1. PBKDF1 is compatible with the key derivation process in PKCS #5 v1.5. PBKDF1 is recommended only for compatibility with existing applications since the keys it produces may not be large enough for some applications.

PBKDF2 applies a pseudorandom function (see Appendix B.1 for an example) to derive keys. The length of the derived key is essentially unbounded. (However, the maximum effective search space for the derived key may be limited by the structure of the underlying pseudorandom function. See Appendix B.1 for further discussion.) PBKDF2 is recommended for new applications.

Do this:

openssl enc -aes-256-cbc -pbkdf2 -iter 20000 -in hello -out hello.enc -k meow

openssl enc -d -aes-256-cbc -pbkdf2 -iter 20000 -in hello.enc -out hello.out

Note: Iterations in decryption have to be the same as iterations in encryption.

Iterations have to be a minimum of 10000. Here is a good answer on the number of iterations: https://security.stackexchange.com/a/3993

Also... we've got enough people here recommending GPG. Read the damn question.

How to use BOOLEAN type in SELECT statement

How to write and read a file with a HashMap?

since HashMap implements Serializable interface, you can simply use ObjectOutputStream class to write whole Map to file, and read it again using ObjectInputStream class

below simple code that explain usage of ObjectOutStream and ObjectInputStream

import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class A{

    HashMap<String,String> hm;
    public A() {
        hm=new HashMap<String,String>();

        hm.put("1","A");
        hm.put("2","B");
        hm.put("3","C");

        method1(hm);

    }

public void method1(HashMap<String,String> map) {
    //write to file : "fileone"
    try {
        File fileOne=new File("fileone");
        FileOutputStream fos=new FileOutputStream(fileOne);
        ObjectOutputStream oos=new ObjectOutputStream(fos);

        oos.writeObject(map);
        oos.flush();
        oos.close();
        fos.close();
    } catch(Exception e) {}

    //read from file
    try {
        File toRead=new File("fileone");
        FileInputStream fis=new FileInputStream(toRead);
        ObjectInputStream ois=new ObjectInputStream(fis);

        HashMap<String,String> mapInFile=(HashMap<String,String>)ois.readObject();

        ois.close();
        fis.close();
        //print All data in MAP
        for(Map.Entry<String,String> m :mapInFile.entrySet()){
            System.out.println(m.getKey()+" : "+m.getValue());
        }
    } catch(Exception e) {}
  }

public static void main(String args[]) {
        new A();
}

}

or if you want to write data as text to file you can simply iterate through Map and write key and value line by line, and read it again line by line and add to HashMap

import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;
public class A{

    HashMap<String,String> hm;
    public A(){
        hm=new HashMap<String,String>();

        hm.put("1","A");
        hm.put("2","B");
        hm.put("3","C");

        method2(hm);

    }

public void method2(HashMap<String,String> map) {
    //write to file : "fileone"
    try {
        File fileTwo=new File("filetwo.txt");
        FileOutputStream fos=new FileOutputStream(fileTwo);
        PrintWriter pw=new PrintWriter(fos);

        for(Map.Entry<String,String> m :map.entrySet()){
            pw.println(m.getKey()+"="+m.getValue());
        }

        pw.flush();
        pw.close();
        fos.close();
    } catch(Exception e) {}

    //read from file
    try {
        File toRead=new File("filetwo.txt");
        FileInputStream fis=new FileInputStream(toRead);

        Scanner sc=new Scanner(fis);

        HashMap<String,String> mapInFile=new HashMap<String,String>();

        //read data from file line by line:
        String currentLine;
        while(sc.hasNextLine()) {
            currentLine=sc.nextLine();
            //now tokenize the currentLine:
            StringTokenizer st=new StringTokenizer(currentLine,"=",false);
            //put tokens ot currentLine in map
            mapInFile.put(st.nextToken(),st.nextToken());
        }
        fis.close();

        //print All data in MAP
        for(Map.Entry<String,String> m :mapInFile.entrySet()) {
            System.out.println(m.getKey()+" : "+m.getValue());
        }
    }catch(Exception e) {}
  }

public static void main(String args[]) {
        new A();
}

}

MySQL: How to reset or change the MySQL root password?

Change the MySQL root password.

This method exposes the password to the command-line history, these commands should be run as root.

  1. Login through mysql command line tool:

    mysql -uroot -poldpassword

  2. Run this command:

    SET PASSWORD FOR root@'localhost' = PASSWORD('newpassword');

or

  1. Run this command, which sets a password for the current user ('root' for this case) :

    SET PASSWORD = PASSWORD('newpassword');

Check whether IIS is installed or not?

For Windows 7:
Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off > to turn on IIS click on Check box.

AppFabric installation failed because installer MSI returned with error code : 1603

I was trying to re-install AppFabric 1.1 on my Dev Computer running Windows 8 and I get this error. I found here that adding this :

to PSModulePath (System properties -> Environment Variables -> System variables) solved my issue.

Switch statement for string matching in JavaScript

You can't do it in a switch unless you're doing full string matching; that's doing substring matching. (This isn't quite true, as Sean points out in the comments. See note at the end.)

If you're happy that your regex at the top is stripping away everything that you don't want to compare in your match, you don't need a substring match, and could do:

switch (base_url_string) {
    case "xxx.local":
        // Blah
        break;
    case "xxx.dev.yyy.com":
        // Blah
        break;
}

...but again, that only works if that's the complete string you're matching. It would fail if base_url_string were, say, "yyy.xxx.local" whereas your current code would match that in the "xxx.local" branch.

Update: Okay, so technically you can use a switch for substring matching, but I wouldn't recommend it in most situations. Here's how (live example):

function test(str) {
    switch (true) {
      case /xyz/.test(str):
        display("• Matched 'xyz' test");
        break;
      case /test/.test(str):
        display("• Matched 'test' test");
        break;
      case /ing/.test(str):
        display("• Matched 'ing' test");
        break;
      default:
        display("• Didn't match any test");
        break;
    }
}

That works because of the way JavaScript switch statements work, in particular two key aspects: First, that the cases are considered in source text order, and second that the selector expressions (the bits after the keyword case) are expressions that are evaluated as that case is evaluated (not constants as in some other languages). So since our test expression is true, the first case expression that results in true will be the one that gets used.

PHP - Session destroy after closing browser

There's one more "hack" by using HTTP Referer (we asume that browser window was closed current referer's domain name and curent page's domain name do not match):

session_start();
$_SESSION['somevariable'] = 'somevalue';

if(parse_url($_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"], PHP_URL_HOST) != $_SERVER["SERVER_NAME"]){
    session_destroy();
}

This also has some drawbacks, but it helped me few times.

How can I get an int from stdio in C?

I'm not fully sure that this is what you're looking for, but if your question is how to read an integer using <stdio.h>, then the proper syntax is

int myInt;
scanf("%d", &myInt);

You'll need to do a lot of error-handling to ensure that this works correctly, of course, but this should be a good start. In particular, you'll need to handle the cases where

  1. The stdin file is closed or broken, so you get nothing at all.
  2. The user enters something invalid.

To check for this, you can capture the return code from scanf like this:

int result = scanf("%d", &myInt);

If stdin encounters an error while reading, result will be EOF, and you can check for errors like this:

int myInt;
int result = scanf("%d", &myInt);

if (result == EOF) {
    /* ... you're not going to get any input ... */
}

If, on the other hand, the user enters something invalid, like a garbage text string, then you need to read characters out of stdin until you consume all the offending input. You can do this as follows, using the fact that scanf returns 0 if nothing was read:

int myInt;
int result = scanf("%d", &myInt);

if (result == EOF) {
    /* ... you're not going to get any input ... */
}
if (result == 0) {
    while (fgetc(stdin) != '\n') // Read until a newline is found
        ;
}

Hope this helps!

EDIT: In response to the more detailed question, here's a more appropriate answer. :-)

The problem with this code is that when you write

printf("got the number: %d", scanf("%d", &x));

This is printing the return code from scanf, which is EOF on a stream error, 0 if nothing was read, and 1 otherwise. This means that, in particular, if you enter an integer, this will always print 1 because you're printing the status code from scanf, not the number you read.

To fix this, change this to

int x;
scanf("%d", &x);
/* ... error checking as above ... */
printf("got the number: %d", x);

Hope this helps!

How can I change Mac OS's default Java VM returned from /usr/libexec/java_home

I had a similar situation, and the following process worked for me:

  1. In the terminal, type

    vi ~/.profile

  2. Then add this line in the file, and save

    export JAVA_HOME=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk<version>.jdk/Contents/Home

    where version is the one on your computer, such as 1.7.0_25

  3. Exit the editor, then type the following command make it become effective

    source ~/.profile

Then type java -version to check the result

    java -version

What is .profile? From:http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/speed-up-your-terminal-workflow-with-command-aliases-and-profile--mac-30515

.profile file is a hidden file. It is an optional file which tells the system which commands to run when the user whose profile file it is logs in. For example, if my username is bruno and there is a .profile file in /Users/bruno/, all of its contents will be executed during the log-in procedure.

jQuery Change event on an <input> element - any way to retain previous value?

I created these functions based on Joey Guerra's suggestion, thank you for that. I'm elaborating a little bit, perhaps someone can use it. The first function checkDefaults() is called when an input changes, the second is called when the form is submitted using jQuery.post. div.updatesubmit is my submit button, and class 'needsupdate' is an indicator that an update is made but not yet submitted.

function checkDefaults() {
    var changed = false;
        jQuery('input').each(function(){
            if(this.defaultValue != this.value) {
                changed = true;
            }
        });
        if(changed === true) {
            jQuery('div.updatesubmit').addClass("needsupdate");
        } else {
            jQuery('div.updatesubmit').removeClass("needsupdate");
        }
}

function renewDefaults() {
        jQuery('input').each(function(){
            this.defaultValue = this.value;
        });
        jQuery('div.updatesubmit').removeClass("needsupdate");
}

What is the difference between a .cpp file and a .h file?

A header (.h, .hpp, ...) file contains

  • Class definitions ( class X { ... }; )
  • Inline function definitions ( inline int get_cpus() { ... } )
  • Function declarations ( void help(); )
  • Object declarations ( extern int debug_enabled; )

A source file (.c, .cpp, .cxx) contains

  • Function definitions ( void help() { ... } or void X::f() { ... } )
  • Object definitions ( int debug_enabled = 1; )

However, the convention that headers are named with a .h suffix and source files are named with a .cpp suffix is not really required. One can always tell a good compiler how to treat some file, irrespective of its file-name suffix ( -x <file-type> for gcc. Like -x c++ ).

Source files will contain definitions that must be present only once in the whole program. So if you include a source file somewhere and then link the result of compilation of that file and then the one of the source file itself together, then of course you will get linker errors, because you have those definitions now appear twice: Once in the included source file, and then in the file that included it. That's why you had problems with including the .cpp file.

OR, AND Operator

There is a distinction between the conditional operators && and || and the boolean operators & and |. Mainly it is a difference of precendence (which operators get evaluated first) and also the && and || are 'escaping'. This means that is a sequence such as...

cond1 && cond2 && cond3

If cond1 is false, neither cond2 or cond3 are evaluated as the code rightly assumes that no matter what their value, the expression cannot be true. Likewise...

cond1 || cond2 || cond3

If cond1 is true, neither cond2 or cond3 are evaluated as the expression must be true no matter what their value is.

The bitwise counterparts, & and | are not escaping.

Hope that helps.

Alter SQL table - allow NULL column value

PHP unable to load php_curl.dll extension

Usually this is an OpenSSL version mismatch error, between Apache and PHP. In case Apache loads PHP as a DSO module, its own OpenSSL versions (dlls and libs) will be used. So, in case the PHP extension requires a newer version, it may not find the appropriate interface inside the Apache-loaded DLLS and it will fail to work.

Since you need the PHP extension to load, you need the relevant DLL files to be at least the version of what the PHP module asks for. Supposing that you 're using lastest builds for both Apache and PHP and both having been built with the same MVC version, you can copy the following files:

  • libcrypto-1_1.dll
  • libcrypto-1_1-x64.dll
  • libcurl.dll
  • libsasl.dll
  • libssh2.dll
  • libssl-1_1.dll
  • libssl-1_1-x64.dll
  • nghttp2.dll
  • libeay32.dll (if existing in your PHP distribution)
  • ssleay32.dll (if existing in your PHP distribution)

from the PHP root folder to the Apache2/bin folder, in case you 're confident that the PHP build is newer than the Apache build.

In the opposite case, you can copy the same files from the Apache BIN to the PHP root.

In any case, backup the contents of the APache and PHP folders beforehand.

Adding the PHP path as an enviromental variable will give priority to this path for loading the relevant DLLs and may solve the problem. However, you lose in server portability. Additionally, if you have also added the Apache PATH as a variable and the OpenSSL versions are way different (up to loading different linked DLL files), a lot of shit may happen.

CSS position absolute full width problem

You could set both left and right property to 0. This will make the div stretch to the document width, but requires that no parent element is positioned (which is not the case, seeing as #header is position: relative;)

#site_nav_global_primary {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
    right: 0;
}

Demo at: http://jsfiddle.net/xWnq2/, where I removed position:relative; from #header

UIImageView aspect fit and center

In swift language we can set content mode of UIImage view like following as:

let newImgThumb = UIImageView(frame: CGRect(x: 10, y: 10, width: 100, height: 100))
newImgThumb.contentMode = .scaleAspectFit

Initialize value of 'var' in C# to null

var variables still have a type - and the compiler error message says this type must be established during the declaration.

The specific request (assigning an initial null value) can be done, but I don't recommend it. It doesn't provide an advantage here (as the type must still be specified) and it could be viewed as making the code less readable:

var x = (String)null;

Which is still "type inferred" and equivalent to:

String x = null;

The compiler will not accept var x = null because it doesn't associate the null with any type - not even Object. Using the above approach, var x = (Object)null would "work" although it is of questionable usefulness.

Generally, when I can't use var's type inference correctly then

  1. I am at a place where it's best to declare the variable explicitly; or
  2. I should rewrite the code such that a valid value (with an established type) is assigned during the declaration.

The second approach can be done by moving code into methods or functions.

Can media queries resize based on a div element instead of the screen?

For mine I did it by setting the div's max width, hence for small widget won't get affected and the large widget is resized due to the max-width style.

  // assuming your widget class is "widget"
  .widget {
    max-width: 100%;
    height: auto;

How to convert seconds to HH:mm:ss in moment.js

How to correctly use moment.js durations? | Use moment.duration() in codes

First, you need to import moment and moment-duration-format.

import moment from 'moment';
import 'moment-duration-format';

Then, use duration function. Let us apply the above example: 28800 = 8 am.

moment.duration(28800, "seconds").format("h:mm a");

Well, you do not have above type error. Do you get a right value 8:00 am ? No…, the value you get is 8:00 a. Moment.js format is not working as it is supposed to.

The solution is to transform seconds to milliseconds and use UTC time.

moment.utc(moment.duration(value, 'seconds').asMilliseconds()).format('h:mm a')

All right we get 8:00 am now. If you want 8 am instead of 8:00 am for integral time, we need to do RegExp

const time = moment.utc(moment.duration(value, 'seconds').asMilliseconds()).format('h:mm a');
time.replace(/:00/g, '')

Unloading classes in java?

The only way that a Class can be unloaded is if the Classloader used is garbage collected. This means, references to every single class and to the classloader itself need to go the way of the dodo.

One possible solution to your problem is to have a Classloader for every jar file, and a Classloader for each of the AppServers that delegates the actual loading of classes to specific Jar classloaders. That way, you can point to different versions of the jar file for every App server.

This is not trivial, though. The OSGi platform strives to do just this, as each bundle has a different classloader and dependencies are resolved by the platform. Maybe a good solution would be to take a look at it.

If you don't want to use OSGI, one possible implementation could be to use one instance of JarClassloader class for every JAR file.

And create a new, MultiClassloader class that extends Classloader. This class internally would have an array (or List) of JarClassloaders, and in the defineClass() method would iterate through all the internal classloaders until a definition can be found, or a NoClassDefFoundException is thrown. A couple of accessor methods can be provided to add new JarClassloaders to the class. There is several possible implementations on the net for a MultiClassLoader, so you might not even need to write your own.

If you instanciate a MultiClassloader for every connection to the server, in principle it is possible that every server uses a different version of the same class.

I've used the MultiClassloader idea in a project, where classes that contained user-defined scripts had to be loaded and unloaded from memory and it worked quite well.

How to keep two folders automatically synchronized?

You can take advantage of fschange. It’s a Linux filesystem change notification. The source code is downloadable from the above link, you can compile it yourself. fschange can be used to keep track of file changes by reading data from a proc file (/proc/fschange). When data is written to a file, fschange reports the exact interval that has been modified instead of just saying that the file has been changed. If you are looking for the more advanced solution, I would suggest checking Resilio Connect. It is cross-platform, provides extended options for use and monitoring. Since it’s BitTorrent-based, it is faster than any other existing sync tool. It was written on their behalf.

How to add a browser tab icon (favicon) for a website?

There are a lot of complicated solutions above. For me? I used GIMP to save a copy of the original PNG file after changing the image size to 32 x 32 pixels.

Just be sure to save it as a *.ico file and use the

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://sstatic.net/stackoverflow/img/favicon.ico">

listed above

Converting VS2012 Solution to VS2010

Just to elaborate on Bhavin's excellent answer - editing the solution file works but you may still get the incompatible error (as David reported) if you had .NET 4.5 selected as the default .NET version in your VS2012 project and your VS2010 enviroment doesn't support that.

To quickly fix that, open the VS2012 .csproj file in a text editor and change the TargetFrameworkVersion down to 4.0 (from 4.5). VS2010 will then happily load the "edited" solution and projects.

You'll also have to edit an app.config files that have references to .NET 4.5 in a similar way to allow them to run on a .NET 4.0 environment.

StringIO in Python3

In my case I have used:

How do you set the max number of characters for an EditText in Android?

use this function anywhere easily:

 public static void setEditTextMaxLength(EditText editText, int length) {
    InputFilter[] FilterArray = new InputFilter[1];
    FilterArray[0] = new InputFilter.LengthFilter(length);
    editText.setFilters(FilterArray);
  }

Max or Default?

Since DefaultIfEmpty isn't implemented in LINQ to SQL, I did a search on the error it returned and found a fascinating article that deals with null sets in aggregate functions. To summarize what I found, you can get around this limitation by casting to a nullable within your select. My VB is a little rusty, but I think it'd go something like this:

Dim x = (From y In context.MyTable _
         Where y.MyField = value _
         Select CType(y.MyCounter, Integer?)).Max

Or in C#:

var x = (from y in context.MyTable
         where y.MyField == value
         select (int?)y.MyCounter).Max();

How can I determine the type of an HTML element in JavaScript?

nodeName is the attribute you are looking for. For example:

var elt = document.getElementById('foo');
console.log(elt.nodeName);

Note that nodeName returns the element name capitalized and without the angle brackets, which means that if you want to check if an element is an <div> element you could do it as follows:

elt.nodeName == "DIV"

While this would not give you the expected results:

elt.nodeName == "<div>"

How do I create a list of random numbers without duplicates?

You can first create a list of numbers from a to b, where a and b are respectively the smallest and greatest numbers in your list, then shuffle it with Fisher-Yates algorithm or using the Python's random.shuffle method.

Print an ArrayList with a for-each loop

import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.List;

class ArrLst{

    public static void main(String args[]){

        List l=new ArrayList();
        l.add(10);
        l.add(11);
        l.add(12);
        l.add(13);
        l.add(14);
        l.forEach((a)->System.out.println(a));
    }
}

How to pass table value parameters to stored procedure from .net code

The cleanest way to work with it. Assuming your table is a list of integers called "dbo.tvp_Int" (Customize for your own table type)

Create this extension method...

public static void AddWithValue_Tvp_Int(this SqlParameterCollection paramCollection, string parameterName, List<int> data)
{
   if(paramCollection != null)
   {
       var p = paramCollection.Add(parameterName, SqlDbType.Structured);
       p.TypeName = "dbo.tvp_Int";
       DataTable _dt = new DataTable() {Columns = {"Value"}};
       data.ForEach(value => _dt.Rows.Add(value));
       p.Value = _dt;
   }
}

Now you can add a table valued parameter in one line anywhere simply by doing this:

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValueFor_Tvp_Int("@IDValues", listOfIds);

The response content cannot be parsed because the Internet Explorer engine is not available, or

You can disable need to run Internet Explorer's first launch configuration by running this PowerShell script, it will adjust corresponding registry property:

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" -Name "DisableFirstRunCustomize" -Value 2

After this, WebClient will work without problems

How do I get extra data from intent on Android?

First, get the intent which has started your activity using the getIntent() method:

Intent intent = getIntent();

If your extra data is represented as strings, then you can use intent.getStringExtra(String name) method. In your case:

String id = intent.getStringExtra("id");
String name = intent.getStringExtra("name");

No module named pkg_resources

I experienced that error in my Google App Engine environment. And pip install -t lib setuptools fixed the issue.

How can I extract the folder path from file path in Python?

Anyone trying to do this in the ESRI GIS Table field calculator interface can do this with the Python parser:

PathToContainingFolder =

"\\".join(!FullFilePathWithFileName!.split("\\")[0:-1])

so that

\Users\me\Desktop\New folder\file.txt

becomes

\Users\me\Desktop\New folder

How do I explicitly specify a Model's table-name mapping in Rails?

Rails >= 3.2 (including Rails 4+ and 5+):

class Countries < ActiveRecord::Base
  self.table_name = "cc"
end

Rails <= 3.1:

class Countries < ActiveRecord::Base
  self.set_table_name "cc"
  ...
end

How to get an object's methods?

In modern browsers you can use Object.getOwnPropertyNames to get all properties (both enumerable and non-enumerable) on an object. For instance:

function Person ( age, name ) {
    this.age = age;
    this.name = name;
}

Person.prototype.greet = function () {
    return "My name is " + this.name;
};

Person.prototype.age = function () {
    this.age = this.age + 1;
};

// ["constructor", "greet", "age"]
Object.getOwnPropertyNames( Person.prototype );

Note that this only retrieves own-properties, so it will not return properties found elsewhere on the prototype chain. That, however, doesn't appear to be your request so I will assume this approach is sufficient.

If you would only like to see enumerable properties, you can instead use Object.keys. This would return the same collection, minus the non-enumerable constructor property.

Wordpress keeps redirecting to install-php after migration

Well finally I have solved the problem. And surprise, surprise It was the freaking UPPERCASE letter in my table prefix. I had it this way in my wp-config file wp_C5n but for some reason most of the tables got a prefix wp_c5n. But not all. So what id did was I changed my table prefix in wp_config file to all lowercase and then went through all the tables by hand via phpMyadmin to see If there's any uppercase tables left. There where about 3. They were inside usermeta table and inside options table. Now finally everything is working. Did a quick search through wordpress codex but did not find anything mentioning not to use uppercase characters.

How do I print the content of a .txt file in Python?

with open("filename.txt", "w+") as file:
  for line in file:
    print line

This with statement automatically opens and closes it for you and you can iterate over the lines of the file with a simple for loop

Can I grep only the first n lines of a file?

grep -A 10 <Pattern>

This is to grab the pattern and the next 10 lines after the pattern. This would work well only for a known pattern, if you don't have a known pattern use the "head" suggestions.

List of <p:ajax> events

I've got the list in debug mode; first I saw the point at which the error was thrown

javax.faces.view.facelets.TagException: /showcase/partial_submit.xhtml @26,36 Event:changed is not supported. org.primefaces.component.behavior.ajax.AjaxBehaviorHandler.applyAttachedObject(AjaxBehaviorHandler.java:179) org.primefaces.component.behavior.ajax.AjaxBehaviorHandler.apply(AjaxBehaviorHandler.java:157)

and then I debugged AjaxBehaviorHandler

enter image description here

so if you want discover the right list of supported event, you can generate an error (using an event name that is wrong), and follow this way

Why doesn't Console.Writeline, Console.Write work in Visual Studio Express?

There are 2 possible problems are:

  • Firstly, you have not used the using System which should be before writing code that uses "System class", as Console.WriteLine()
  • Secondly, you have not coded what happens after the Console displays "Test"

The possible solution will be:

using System;

namespace Test
{
    public static Main()
    {
        //Print to the console
        Console.WriteLine("Test");

        //Allow user to read output
        Console.ReadKey();
    }
}

It is also strategic to code Console.Write("Press any key to exit..."); on the line that precedes the Console.ReadKey(); to make the user aware that the program is ending, he/she must press any key to exit.

How do I display image in Alert/confirm box in Javascript?

I created a function that might help. All it does is imitate the alert but put an image instead of text.

function alertImage(imgsrc) {
$('.d').css({
    'position': 'absolute',
    'top': '0',
    'left': '50%',
    '-webkit-transform': 'translate(-50%, 0)'
});
$('.d').animate({
    opacity: 0
}, 0)
$('.d').animate({
    opacity: 1,
    top: "10px"
}, 250)
$('.d').append('An embedded page on this page says')
$('.d').append('<br><img src="' + imgsrc + '">')
$('.b').css({
  'position':'absolute',
  '-webkit-transform': 'translate(-100%, -100%)',
  'top':'100%',
  'left':'100%',
  'display':'inline',
  'background-color':'#598cbd',
  'border-radius':'4px',
  'color':'white',
  'border':'none',
  'width':'66',
  'height':'33'
})
}
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js"></script>
<div class="d"><button onclick="$('.d').html('')" class="b">OK</button></div>
.d{
font-size: 17px;
  font-family: sans-serif;
}
.b{
  display: none;
}

Check if a file exists locally using JavaScript only

Your question is ambiguous, so there are multiple possible answers depending on what you're really trying to achieve.

If you're developping as I'm guessing a desktop application using Titanium, then you can use the FileSystem module's getFile to get the file object, then check if it exists using the exists method.

Here's an example taken from the Appcelerator website:

var homeDir = Titanium.Filesystem.getUserDirectory();
var mySampleFile = Titanium.Filesystem.getFile(homeDir, 'sample.txt');

if (mySampleFile.exists()) {
    alert('A file called sample.txt already exists in your home directory.');
    ...
}

Check the getFile method reference documentation

And the exists method reference documentation

For those who thought that he was asking about an usual Web development situation, then thse are the two answers I'd have given:

1) you want to check if a server-side file exists. In this case you can use an ajax request try and get the file and react upon the received answer. Although, be aware that you can only check for files that are exposed by your web server. A better approach would be to write a server-side script (e.g., php) that would do the check for you, given a filename and call that script via ajax. Also, be aware that you could very easily create a security hole in your application/server if you're not careful enough.

2) you want to check if a client-side file exists. In this case, as pointed you by others, it is not allowed for security reasons (although IE allowed this in the past via ActiveX and the Scripting.FileSystemObject class) and it's fine like that (nobody wants you to be able to go through their files), so forget about this.

How do I round a double to two decimal places in Java?

Passing a String by Reference in Java?

What is happening is that the reference is passed by value, i.e., a copy of the reference is passed. Nothing in java is passed by reference, and since a string is immutable, that assignment creates a new string object that the copy of the reference now points to. The original reference still points to the empty string.

This would be the same for any object, i.e., setting it to a new value in a method. The example below just makes what is going on more obvious, but concatenating a string is really the same thing.

void foo( object o )
{
    o = new Object( ); // original reference still points to old value on the heap
}

Install dependencies globally and locally using package.json

You could use a separate file, like npm_globals.txt, instead of package.json. This file would contain each module on a new line like this,

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

Then in the command line run,

< npm_globals.txt xargs npm install -g

Check that they installed properly with,

npm list -g --depth=0

As for whether you should do this or not, I think it all depends on use case. For most projects, this isn't necessary; and having your project's package.json encapsulate these tools and dependencies together is much preferred.

But nowadays I find that I'm always installing create-react-app and other CLI's globally when I jump on a new machine. It's nice to have an easy way to install a global tool and its dependencies when versioning doesn't matter much.

And nowadays, I'm using npx, an npm package runner, instead of installing packages globally.
