Total Commander also has a binary compare option: go to: File \\Compare by content

ps. I guess some people may alredy be using this tool and may not be aware of the built-in feature.

jQuery UI Dialog - missing close icon

I am late to this one by a while, but I'm going to blow your mind, ready?

The reason this is happening, is because you are calling bootstrap in, after you are calling jquery-ui in.

Literally, swap the two so that instead of:

<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<script src="js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>

it becomes

<script src="js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.js"></script>

:)

Edit - 26/06/2015 - this keeps attracting interest months later so I thought it was worth an edit. I actually really like the noConflict solution offered in the comment underneath this answer and clarified by user Pretty Cool as a separate answer. As some have reported issues with the bootstrap tooltip when the scripts are swapped. I didn't experience that issue however because I downloaded jquery UI without the tooltip as I didn't need it because bootstrap. So this issue never came up for me.

Edit - 22/07/2015 - Don't confuse jquery-ui with jquery! While Bootstrap's JavaScript requires jQuery to be loaded before, it doesn't rely on jQuery-UI. So jquery-ui.js can be loaded after bootstrap.min.js, while jquery.js always needs to be loaded before Bootstrap.

How to scale images to screen size in Pygame

If you scale 1600x900 to 1280x720 you have

scale_x = 1280.0/1600
scale_y = 720.0/900

Then you can use it to find button size, and button position

button_width  = 300 * scale_x
button_height = 300 * scale_y

button_x = 1440 * scale_x
button_y = 860  * scale_y

If you scale 1280x720 to 1600x900 you have

scale_x = 1600.0/1280
scale_y = 900.0/720

and rest is the same.

I add .0 to value to make float - otherwise scale_x, scale_y will be rounded to integer - in this example to 0 (zero) (Python 2.x)

How to pass the password to su/sudo/ssh without overriding the TTY?

For sudo there is a -S option for accepting the password from standard input. Here is the man entry:

    -S The -S (stdin) option causes sudo to read the password from
                the standard input instead of the terminal device.

This will allow you to run a command like:

echo myPassword | sudo -S ls /tmp

As for ssh, I have made many attempts to automate/script it's usage with no success. There doesn't seem to be any build-in way to pass the password into the command without prompting. As others have mentioned, the "expect" utility seems like it is aimed at addressing this dilemma but ultimately, setting up the correct private-key authorization is the correct way to go when attempting to automate this.

Reading in from System.in - Java

In Java, console input is accomplished by reading from System.in. To obtain a character based stream that is attached to the console, wrap System.in in a BufferedReader object. BufferedReader supports a buffered input stream. Its most commonly used constructor is shown here:

BufferedReader(Reader inputReader)

Here, inputReader is the stream that is linked to the instance of BufferedReader that is being created. Reader is an abstract class. One of its concrete subclasses is InputStreamReader, which converts bytes to characters.

To obtain an InputStreamReader object that is linked to System.in, use the following constructor:

InputStreamReader(InputStream inputStream)

Because System.in refers to an object of type InputStream, it can be used for inputStream. Putting it all together, the following line of code creates a BufferedReader that is connected to the keyboard:

BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));

After this statement executes, br is a character-based stream that is linked to the console through System.in.

This is taken from the book Java- The Complete Reference by Herbert Schildt

Adding to the classpath on OSX

In OSX, you can set the classpath from scratch like this:

export CLASSPATH=/path/to/some.jar:/path/to/some/other.jar

Or you can add to the existing classpath like this:

export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/path/to/some.jar:/path/to/some/other.jar

This is answering your exact question, I'm not saying it's the right or wrong thing to do; I'll leave that for others to comment upon.

C# : Out of Memory exception

While the GC compacts the small object heap as part of an optimization strategy to eliminate memory holes, the GC never compacts the large object heap for performance reasons**(the cost of compaction is too high for large objects (greater than 85KB in size))**. Hence if you are running a program that uses many large objects in an x86 system, you might encounter OutOfMemory exceptions. If you are running that program in an x64 system, you might have a fragmented heap.

Error in finding last used cell in Excel with VBA

One important note to keep in mind when using the solution ...

LastRow = ws.Cells.Find(What:="*", After:=ws.range("a1"), SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlPrevious).Row

... is to ensure that your LastRow variable is of Long type:

Dim LastRow as Long

Otherwise you will end up getting OVERFLOW errors in certain situations in .XLSX workbooks

This is my encapsulated function that I drop in to various code uses.

Private Function FindLastRow(ws As Worksheet) As Long
    ' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ' Find the last used Row on a Worksheet
    ' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    If WorksheetFunction.CountA(ws.Cells) > 0 Then
        ' Search for any entry, by searching backwards by Rows.
        FindLastRow = ws.Cells.Find(What:="*", After:=ws.range("a1"), SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlPrevious).Row
    End If
End Function

JavaScript: How to pass object by value?

Actually, Javascript is always pass by value. But because object references are values, objects will behave like they are passed by reference.

So in order to walk around this, stringify the object and parse it back, both using JSON. See example of code below:

var person = { Name: 'John', Age: '21', Gender: 'Male' };

var holder = JSON.stringify(person);
// value of holder is "{"Name":"John","Age":"21","Gender":"Male"}"
// note that holder is a new string object

var person_copy = JSON.parse(holder);
// value of person_copy is { Name: 'John', Age: '21', Gender: 'Male' };
// person and person_copy now have the same properties and data
// but are referencing two different objects

Constants in Objective-C

// Prefs.h
extern NSString * const RAHUL;

// Prefs.m
NSString * const RAHUL = @"rahul";

Easiest way to ignore blank lines when reading a file in Python

Why are you all going the hard way?

with open("myfile") as myfile:
    nonempty = filter(str.rstrip, myfile)

Convert nonempty into a list if you have the urge to do so, although I highly suggest keeping nonempty a generator as it is in Python 3.x

In Python 2.x you may use itertools.ifilter to do your bidding instead.

Is it possible to use Visual Studio on macOS?

Yes! You can use the new Visual Studio for Mac, which Microsoft launched in November.

Getting the minimum of two values in SQL

I just had a situation where I had to find the max of 4 complex selects within an update. With this approach you can have as many as you like!

You can also replace the numbers with aditional selects

select max(x)
 from (
 select 1 as 'x' union
 select 4 as 'x' union
 select 3 as 'x' union
 select 2 as 'x'
 ) a

More complex usage

 @answer = select Max(x)
           from (
                select @NumberA as 'x' union
                select @NumberB as 'x' union
                select @NumberC as 'x' union
                select (
                       Select Max(score) from TopScores
                       ) as 'x'
     ) a

I'm sure a UDF has better performance.

SQL Server Format Date DD.MM.YYYY HH:MM:SS

A quick way to do it in sql server 2012 is as follows:

SELECT FORMAT(GETDATE() , 'dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss')

Vue.js data-bind style backgroundImage not working

Based on my knowledge, if you put your image folder in your public folder, you can just do the following:

   <div :style="{backgroundImage: `url(${project.imagePath})`}"></div>

If you put your images in the src/assets/, you need to use require. Like this:

   <div :style="{backgroundImage: 'url('+require('@/assets/'+project.image)+')'}">.
   </div>

One important thing is that you cannot use an expression that contains the full URL like this project.image = '@/assets/image.png'. You need to hardcode the '@assets/' part. That was what I've found. I think the reason is that in Webpack, a context is created if your require contains expressions, so the exact module is not known on compile time. Instead, it will search for everything in the @/assets folder. More info could be found here. Here is another doc explains how the Vue loader treats the link in single file components.

How do I make a Mac Terminal pop-up/alert? Applescript?

Visual Studio Code open tab in new window

You can also hit Win+Shift+[n]. N being the position the app is in the taskbar. Eg if its pinned as the first app hit WIn+Shift+1 and windows will open a new instance. This works for all applications.

I agree tho all of these workarounds shouldn't be necessary. Pretty much every other app can drag tabs out as a window I can't think of anything I used that doesn't and VSCode should be implementing ubiquitous functions we expect to be there.

Is it possible to set an object to null?

You can set any pointer to NULL, though NULL is simply defined as 0 in C++:

myObject *foo = NULL;

Also note that NULL is defined if you include standard headers, but is not built into the language itself. If NULL is undefined, you can use 0 instead, or include this:

#ifndef NULL
#define NULL 0
#endif

As an aside, if you really want to set an object, not a pointer, to NULL, you can read about the Null Object Pattern.

A function to convert null to string

Its possible to make this even shorter with C# 6:

public string NullToString(string Value)
{
    return value?.ToString() ?? "";
}

How to create JSON object using jQuery

A "JSON object" doesn't make sense : JSON is an exchange format based on the structure of Javascript object declaration.

If you want to convert your javascript object to a json string, use JSON.stringify(yourObject);

If you want to create a javascript object, simply do it like this :

var yourObject = {
          test:'test 1',
          testData: [
                {testName: 'do',testId:''}
          ],
          testRcd:'value'
};

force browsers to get latest js and css files in asp.net application

I solved this by tacking a last modified timestamp as a query parameter to the scripts.

I did this with an extension method, and using it in my CSHTML files. Note: this implementation caches the timestamp for 1 minute so we don't thrash the disk quite so much.

Here is the extension method:

public static class JavascriptExtension {
    public static MvcHtmlString IncludeVersionedJs(this HtmlHelper helper, string filename) {
        string version = GetVersion(helper, filename);
        return MvcHtmlString.Create("<script type='text/javascript' src='" + filename + version + "'></script>");
    }

    private static string GetVersion(this HtmlHelper helper, string filename)
    {
        var context = helper.ViewContext.RequestContext.HttpContext;

        if (context.Cache[filename] == null)
        {
            var physicalPath = context.Server.MapPath(filename);
            var version = $"?v={new System.IO.FileInfo(physicalPath).LastWriteTime.ToString("MMddHHmmss")}";
            context.Cache.Add(filename, version, null,
              DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(5), TimeSpan.Zero,
              CacheItemPriority.Normal, null);
            return version;
        }
        else
        {
            return context.Cache[filename] as string;
        }
    }
}

And then in the CSHTML page:

 @Html.IncludeVersionedJs("/MyJavascriptFile.js")

In the rendered HTML, this appears as:

 <script type='text/javascript' src='/MyJavascriptFile.js?20111129120000'></script>

What are the differences between git branch, fork, fetch, merge, rebase and clone?

Fork Vs. Clone - two words that both mean copy

Please see this diagram. (Originally from http://www.dataschool.io/content/images/2014/Mar/github1.png).

.-------------------------.     1. Fork     .-------------------------.
| Your GitHub repo        | <-------------- | Joe's GitHub repo       |
| github.com/you/coolgame |                 | github.com/joe/coolgame |
| ----------------------- | 7. Pull Request | ----------------------- |
| master -> c224ff7       | --------------> | master -> c224ff7 (c)   |
| anidea -> 884faa1 (a)   |                 | anidea -> 884faa1 (b)   |
'-------------------------'                 '-------------------------'
    |                 ^
    | 2. Clone        |
    |                 |
    |                 |
    |                 |
    |                 |
    |                 | 6. Push (anidea => origin/anidea)
    v                 |
.-------------------------.
| Your computer | 3. Create branch 'anidea'
| $HOME/coolgame          |
| ----------------------- |  4. Update a file
| master -> c224ff7       |
| anidea -> 884faa1       |  5. Commit (to 'anidea')
'-------------------------'

(a) - after you have pushed it
(b) - after Joe has accepted it
(c) - eventually Joe might merge 'anidea' (make 'master -> 884faa1')

Fork

  • A copy to your remote repo (cloud) that links it to Joe's
  • A copy you can then clone to your local repo and F*%$-up
  • When you are done you can push back to your remote
  • You can then ask Joe if he wants to use it in his project by clicking pull-request

Clone

  • a copy to your local repo (harddrive)

Find unique lines

uniq should do fine if you're file is/can be sorted, if you can't sort the file for some reason you can use awk:

awk '{a[$0]++}END{for(i in a)if(a[i]<2)print i}'

How to convert datatype:object to float64 in python?

Or you can use regular expression to handle multiple items as the general case of this issue,

df['2nd'] = pd.to_numeric(df['2nd'].str.replace(r'[,.%]',''))
df['CTR'] = pd.to_numeric(df['CTR'].str.replace(r'[^\d%]',''))

How to transform currentTimeMillis to a readable date format?

There is a simpler way in Android

 DateFormat.getInstance().format(currentTimeMillis);

Moreover, Date is deprecated, so use DateFormat class.

   DateFormat.getDateInstance().format(new Date(0));
   DateFormat.getDateTimeInstance().format(new Date(0));
   DateFormat.getTimeInstance().format(new Date(0));

The above three lines will give:

Dec 31, 1969
Dec 31, 1969 4:00:00 PM
4:00:00 PM  12:00:00 AM

Spring: @Component versus @Bean

1. About @Component
@Component functs similarily to @Configuration.

They both indicate that the annotated class has one or more beans need to be registered to Spring-IOC-Container.

The class annotated by @Component, we call it Component of Spring. It is a concept that contains several beans.

Component class needs to be auto-scanned by Spring for registering those beans of the component class.

2. About @Bean
@Bean is used to annotate the method of component-class(as mentioned above). It indicate the instance retured by the annotated method needs to be registered to Spring-IOC-Container.

3. Conclusion
The difference between them two is relatively obivious, they are used in different circumstances. The general usage is:

    // @Configuration is implemented by @Component
    @Configuration
    public ComponentClass {

      @Bean
      public FirstBean FirstBeanMethod() {
        return new FirstBean();
      }

      @Bean
      public SecondBean SecondBeanMethod() {
        return new SecondBean();
      }
    }

I need to round a float to two decimal places in Java

You can make use of DecimalFormat to give you the style you wish.

DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("0.00E0");
double number = 1.2975118E7;
System.out.println(df.format(number));  // prints 1.30E7

Since it's in scientific notation, you won't be able to get the number any smaller than 107 without losing that many orders of magnitude of accuracy.

How to shutdown a Spring Boot Application in a correct way?

Spring Boot provided several application listener while try to create application context one of them is ApplicationFailedEvent. We can use to know weather the application context initialized or not.

    import org.slf4j.Logger;
    import org.slf4j.LoggerFactory;
    import org.springframework.boot.context.event.ApplicationFailedEvent;
    import org.springframework.context.ApplicationListener;

    public class ApplicationErrorListener implements
                    ApplicationListener<ApplicationFailedEvent> {

        private static final Logger LOGGER =
        LoggerFactory.getLogger(ApplicationErrorListener.class);

        @Override
        public void onApplicationEvent(ApplicationFailedEvent event) {
           if (event.getException() != null) {
                LOGGER.info("!!!!!!Looks like something not working as
                                expected so stoping application.!!!!!!");
                         event.getApplicationContext().close();
                  System.exit(-1);
           }
        }
    }

Add to above listener class to SpringApplication.

    new SpringApplicationBuilder(Application.class)
            .listeners(new ApplicationErrorListener())
            .run(args);

Bootstrap: Collapse other sections when one is expanded

Use this:

$('.panel-defaul.ph').on('show.bs.collapse', function () {
    $(this).children('.panel-heading').addClass('panel-heading-collapsed');
    $('.panel-defaul.ph').not(this).children('.panel-collapse').removeClass('in');
});

Simplest Way to Test ODBC on WIndows

Can "git pull --all" update all my local branches?

The behavior you describe for pull --all is exactly as expected, though not necessarily useful. The option is passed along to git fetch, which then fetches all refs from all remotes, instead of just the needed one; pull then merges (or in your case, rebases) the appropriate single branch.

If you want to check out other branches, you're going to have to check them out. And yes, merging (and rebasing) absolutely require a work tree, so they cannot be done without checking out the other branches. You could wrap up your described steps into a script/alias if you like, though I'd suggest joining the commands with && so that should one of them fail, it won't try to plow on.

Vector of Vectors to create matrix

Vector needs to be initialized before using it as cin>>v[i][j]. Even if it was 1D vector, it still needs an initialization, see this link

After initialization there will be no errors, see this link

What is base 64 encoding used for?

It's basically a way of encoding arbitrary binary data in ASCII text. It takes 4 characters per 3 bytes of data, plus potentially a bit of padding at the end.

Essentially each 6 bits of the input is encoded in a 64-character alphabet. The "standard" alphabet uses A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and + and /, with = as a padding character. There are URL-safe variants.

Wikipedia is a reasonably good source of more information.

What are unit tests, integration tests, smoke tests, and regression tests?

Unit test: Verifying that particular component (i.e., class) created or modified functions as designed. This test can be manual or automated, but it does not move beyond the boundary of the component.

Integration test: Verifying that the interaction of particular components function as designed. Integration tests can be performed at the unit level or the system level. These tests can be manual or automated.

Regression test: Verifying that new defects are not introduced into existing code. These tests can be manual or automated.

Depending upon your SDLC (waterfall, RUP, agile, etc.) particular tests may be performed in 'phases' or may all be performed, more or less, at the same time. For example, unit testing may be limited to developers who then turn the code over to testers for integration and regression testing. However, another approach might have developers doing unit testing and some level of integration and regression testing (using a TDD approach along with continuous integration and automated unit and regression tests).

The tool set will depend largely on the codebase, but there are many open source tools for unit testing (JUnit). HP's (Mercury) QTP or Borland's Silk Test are both tools for automated integration and regression testing.

file path Windows format to java format

Java 7 and up supports the Path class (in java.nio package). You can use this class to convert a string-path to one that works for your current OS.

Using:

Paths.get("\\folder\\subfolder").toString()

on a Unix machine, will give you /folder/subfolder. Also works the other way around.

How to quit android application programmatically

First of all, this approach requires min Api 16.

I will divide this solution to 3 parts to solve this problem more widely.

1. If you want to quit application in an Activity use this code snippet:

if(Build.VERSION.SDK_INT>=16 && Build.VERSION.SDK_INT<21){
    finishAffinity();
} else if(Build.VERSION.SDK_INT>=21){
    finishAndRemoveTask();
}

2. If you want to quit the application in a non Activity class which has access to Activity then use this code snippet:

if(Build.VERSION.SDK_INT>=16 && Build.VERSION.SDK_INT<21){
    getActivity().finishAffinity();
} else if(Build.VERSION.SDK_INT>=21){
    getActivity().finishAndRemoveTask();
}

3. If you want to quit the application in a non Activity class and cannot access to Activity such as Service I recommend you to use BroadcastReceiver. You can add this approach to all of your Activities in your project.

Create LocalBroadcastManager and BroadcastReceiver instance variables. You can replace getPackageName()+".closeapp" if you want to.

LocalBroadcastManager mLocalBroadcastManager;
BroadcastReceiver mBroadcastReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {
    @Override
    public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
        if(intent.getAction().equals(getPackageName()+".closeapp")){
            if(Build.VERSION.SDK_INT>=16 && Build.VERSION.SDK_INT<21){
                finishAffinity();
            } else if(Build.VERSION.SDK_INT>=21){
                finishAndRemoveTask();
            }
        }
    }
};

Add these to onCreate() method of Activity.

mLocalBroadcastManager = LocalBroadcastManager.getInstance(this);
IntentFilter mIntentFilter = new IntentFilter();
mIntentFilter.addAction(getPackageName()+".closeapp");
mLocalBroadcastManager.registerReceiver(mBroadcastReceiver, mIntentFilter);

Also, don't forget to call unregister receiver at onDestroy() method of Activity

mLocalBroadcastManager.unregisterReceiver(mBroadcastReceiver);

For quit application, you must send broadcast using LocalBroadcastManager which I use in my PlayService class which extends Service.

LocalBroadcastManager localBroadcastManager = LocalBroadcastManager.getInstance(PlayService.this);
localBroadcastManager.sendBroadcast(new Intent(getPackageName() + ".closeapp"));

How to write connection string in web.config file and read from it?

ASP.NET MVC Ajax Error handling

I did a quick solution because I was short of time and it worked ok. Although I think the better option is use an Exception Filter, maybe my solution can help in the case that a simple solution is needed.

I did the following. In the controller method I returned a JsonResult with a property "Success" inside the Data:

    [HttpPut]
    public JsonResult UpdateEmployeeConfig(EmployeConfig employeToSave)
    {
        if (!ModelState.IsValid)
        {
            return new JsonResult
            {
                Data = new { ErrorMessage = "Model is not valid", Success = false },
                ContentEncoding = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8,
                JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.DenyGet
            };
        }
        try

Later in the ajax call I just asked for this property to know if I had an exception:

$.ajax({
    url: 'UpdateEmployeeConfig',
    type: 'PUT',
    data: JSON.stringify(EmployeConfig),
    contentType: "application/json;charset=utf-8",
    success: function (data) {
        if (data.Success) {
            //This is for the example. Please do something prettier for the user, :)
            alert('All was really ok');
        }
        else {
            alert('Oups.. we had errors: ' + data.ErrorMessage);
        }
    },
    error: function (request, status, error) {
       alert('oh, errors here. The call to the server is not working.')
    }
});

Hope this helps. Happy code! :P

SQL JOIN, GROUP BY on three tables to get totals

First of all, shouldn't there be a CustomerId in the Invoices table? As it is, You can't perform this query for Invoices that have no payments on them as yet. If there are no payments on an invoice, that invoice will not even show up in the ouput of the query, even though it's an outer join...

Also, When a customer makes a payment, how do you know what Invoice to attach it to ? If the only way is by the InvoiceId on the stub that arrives with the payment, then you are (perhaps inappropriately) associating Invoices with the customer that paid them, rather than with the customer that ordered them... . (Sometimes an invoice can be paid by someone other than the customer who ordered the services)

How to normalize a NumPy array to within a certain range?

You can also rescale using sklearn. The advantages are that you can adjust normalize the standard deviation, in addition to mean-centering the data, and that you can do this on either axis, by features, or by records.

from sklearn.preprocessing import scale
X = scale( X, axis=0, with_mean=True, with_std=True, copy=True )

The keyword arguments axis, with_mean, with_std are self explanatory, and are shown in their default state. The argument copy performs the operation in-place if it is set to False. Documentation here.

Subtracting time.Duration from time in Go

You can negate a time.Duration:

then := now.Add(- dur)

You can even compare a time.Duration against 0:

if dur > 0 {
    dur = - dur
}

then := now.Add(dur)

You can see a working example at http://play.golang.org/p/ml7svlL4eW

Laravel: How do I parse this json data in view blade?

The catch all for me is taking an object, encoding it, and then passing the string into a javascript script tag. To do this you have to do some replacements.

First replace every \ with a double slash \\ and then every quote" with a \".

$payload = json_encode($payload);
$payload = preg_replace("_\\\_", "\\\\\\", $payload);
$payload = preg_replace("/\"/", "\\\"", $payload);
return View::make('pages.javascript')
  ->with('payload', $payload)

Then in the blade template

@if(isset($payload))
<script>
  window.__payload = JSON.parse("{!!$payload!!}");
</script>
@endif

This basically allows you to take an object on the php side, and then have an object on the javascript side.

Difference between dates in JavaScript

I have found this and it works fine for me:

Calculating the Difference between Two Known Dates

Unfortunately, calculating a date interval such as days, weeks, or months between two known dates is not as easy because you can't just add Date objects together. In order to use a Date object in any sort of calculation, we must first retrieve the Date's internal millisecond value, which is stored as a large integer. The function to do that is Date.getTime(). Once both Dates have been converted, subtracting the later one from the earlier one returns the difference in milliseconds. The desired interval can then be determined by dividing that number by the corresponding number of milliseconds. For instance, to obtain the number of days for a given number of milliseconds, we would divide by 86,400,000, the number of milliseconds in a day (1000 x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours):

Date.daysBetween = function( date1, date2 ) {
  //Get 1 day in milliseconds
  var one_day=1000*60*60*24;

  // Convert both dates to milliseconds
  var date1_ms = date1.getTime();
  var date2_ms = date2.getTime();

  // Calculate the difference in milliseconds
  var difference_ms = date2_ms - date1_ms;

  // Convert back to days and return
  return Math.round(difference_ms/one_day);
}

//Set the two dates
var y2k  = new Date(2000, 0, 1);
var Jan1st2010 = new Date(y2k.getFullYear() + 10, y2k.getMonth(), y2k.getDate());
var today= new Date();
//displays 726
console.log( 'Days since '
           + Jan1st2010.toLocaleDateString() + ': '
           + Date.daysBetween(Jan1st2010, today));

The rounding is optional, depending on whether you want partial days or not.

MySQL - SELECT all columns WHERE one column is DISTINCT

I think the best solution would be to do a subquery and then join that to the table. The sub query would return the primary key of the table. Here is an example:

select *
from (
          SELECT row_number() over(partition by link order by day, month) row_id
          , *

          FROM posted
          WHERE ad='$key'
          ) x
where x.row_id = 1

What this does is the row_number function puts a numerical sequence partitioned by each distinct link that results in the query.

By taking only those row_numbers that = 1, then you only return 1 row for each link.

The way you change what link gets marked "1" is through the order-by clause in the row_number function.

Hope this helps.

How to convert enum names to string in c

One way, making the preprocessor do the work. It also ensures your enums and strings are in sync.

#define FOREACH_FRUIT(FRUIT) \
        FRUIT(apple)   \
        FRUIT(orange)  \
        FRUIT(grape)   \
        FRUIT(banana)  \

#define GENERATE_ENUM(ENUM) ENUM,
#define GENERATE_STRING(STRING) #STRING,

enum FRUIT_ENUM {
    FOREACH_FRUIT(GENERATE_ENUM)
};

static const char *FRUIT_STRING[] = {
    FOREACH_FRUIT(GENERATE_STRING)
};

After the preprocessor gets done, you'll have:

enum FRUIT_ENUM {
    apple, orange, grape, banana,
};

static const char *FRUIT_STRING[] = {
    "apple", "orange", "grape", "banana",
};

Then you could do something like:

printf("enum apple as a string: %s\n",FRUIT_STRING[apple]);

If the use case is literally just printing the enum name, add the following macros:

#define str(x) #x
#define xstr(x) str(x)

Then do:

printf("enum apple as a string: %s\n", xstr(apple));

In this case, it may seem like the two-level macro is superfluous, however, due to how stringification works in C, it is necessary in some cases. For example, let's say we want to use a #define with an enum:

#define foo apple

int main() {
    printf("%s\n", str(foo));
    printf("%s\n", xstr(foo));
}

The output would be:

foo
apple

This is because str will stringify the input foo rather than expand it to be apple. By using xstr the macro expansion is done first, then that result is stringified.

See Stringification for more information.

What's the difference between <mvc:annotation-driven /> and <context:annotation-config /> in servlet?

mvc:annotation-driven is a tag added in Spring 3.0 which does the following:

  1. Configures the Spring 3 Type ConversionService (alternative to PropertyEditors)
  2. Adds support for formatting Number fields with @NumberFormat
  3. Adds support for formatting Date, Calendar, and Joda Time fields with @DateTimeFormat, if Joda Time is on the classpath
  4. Adds support for validating @Controller inputs with @Valid, if a JSR-303 Provider is on the classpath
  5. Adds support for support for reading and writing XML, if JAXB is on the classpath (HTTP message conversion with @RequestBody/@ResponseBody)
  6. Adds support for reading and writing JSON, if Jackson is o n the classpath (along the same lines as #5)

context:annotation-config Looks for annotations on beans in the same application context it is defined and declares support for all the general annotations like @Autowired, @Resource, @Required, @PostConstruct etc etc.

C++ How do I convert a std::chrono::time_point to long and back

time_point objects only support arithmetic with other time_point or duration objects.

You'll need to convert your long to a duration of specified units, then your code should work correctly.

How do I use System.getProperty("line.separator").toString()?

I think your problem is that String.split() treats its argument as a regex, and regexes treat newlines specially. You may need to explicitly create a regex object to pass to split() (there is another overload of it) and configure that regex to allow newlines by passing MULTILINE in the flags param of Pattern.compile(). How do I calculate the date in JavaScript three months prior to today?

I like the simplicity of gilly3's answer, but users will probably be surprised that a month before March 31 is March 3. I chose to implement a version that sticks to the end of the month, so a month before March 28, 29, 30, and 31 will all be Feb 28 when it's not a leap year.

The Bitmap class is an implementation of the Image class. The Image class is an abstract class;

The Bitmap class contains 12 constructors that construct the Bitmap object from different parameters. It can construct the Bitmap from another bitmap, and the string address of the image.

Can I use a binary literal in C or C++?

You can use the function found in this question to get up to 22 bits in C++. Here's the code from the link, suitably edited:

template< unsigned long long N >
struct binary
{
  enum { value = (N % 8) + 2 * binary< N / 8 > :: value } ;
};

template<>
struct binary< 0 >
{
  enum { value = 0 } ;
};

So you can do something like binary<0101011011>::value.

How do I insert multiple checkbox values into a table?

You need to declare the array in the HTML via

<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Daily">

Also you can insert multiple items with one query like this

$query = "INSERT INTO example (orange) VALUES ";
for ($i=0; $i<count($checkBox); $i++)
    $query .= "('" . $checkBox[$i] . "'),";
$query = rtrim($query,',');
mysql_query($query) or die (mysql_error() );

Also keep in mind that mysql_* functions are officially deprecated and hence should not be used in new code. You can use PDO or MySQLi instead. See this answer on SO for more information.

How to prevent text in a table cell from wrapping

Have a look at the white-space property, used like this:

th {
    white-space: nowrap;
}

This will force the contents of <th> to display on one line.

From linked page, here are the various options for white-space:

normal
This value directs user agents to collapse sequences of white space, and break lines as necessary to fill line boxes.

pre
This value prevents user agents from collapsing sequences of white space. Lines are only broken at preserved newline characters.

nowrap
This value collapses white space as for 'normal', but suppresses line breaks within text.

pre-wrap
This value prevents user agents from collapsing sequences of white space. Lines are broken at preserved newline characters, and as necessary to fill line boxes.

pre-line
This value directs user agents to collapse sequences of white space. Lines are broken at preserved newline characters, and as necessary to fill line boxes.

nvarchar(max) still being truncated

Problem seems to be associated with the SET statement. I think the expression can't be more than 4,000 bytes in size. There is no need to make any changes to any settings if all you are trying to do is to assign a dynamically generated statement that is more than 4,000 characters. What you need to do is to split your assignment. If your statement is 6,000 characters long, find a logical break point and then concatenate second half to the same variable. For example:

SET @Query = 'SELECT ....' [Up To 4,000 characters, then rest of statement as below]

SET @Query = @Query + [rest of statement]

Now run your query as normal i.e. EXEC ( @Query )

Controls that aren't Visible won't be rendered in HTML, so although they are assigned a ClientID, they don't actually exist on the client side.

JavaScript string newline character?

It might be easiest to just handle all cases of the new line character instead of checking which case then applying it. For example, if you need to replace the newline then do the following:

htmlstring = stringContainingNewLines.replace(/(\r\n|\n|\r)/gm, "<br>");

How to format a DateTime in PowerShell

A very convenient -- but probably not all too efficient -- solution is to use the member function GetDateTimeFormats(),

$d = Get-Date
$d.GetDateTimeFormats()

This outputs a large string-array of formatting styles for the date-value. You can then pick one of the elements of the array via the []-operator, e.g.,

PS C:\> $d.GetDateTimeFormats()[12]
Dienstag, 29. November 2016 19.14

Might be a pasting problem, but as far as I can see from your code, you're missing the single quotes around the HTML part you're echo-ing.

If not, could you post the code correctly and tell us what line is causing the error?

What is the best way to merge mp3 files?

What I really wanted was a GUI to reorder them and output them as one file

Playlist Producer does exactly that, decoding and reencoding them into a combined MP3. It's designed for creating mix tapes or simple podcasts, but you might find it useful.

How to add a recyclerView inside another recyclerView

I ran into similar problem a while back and what was happening in my case was the outer recycler view was working perfectly fine but the the adapter of inner/second recycler view had minor issues all the methods like constructor got initiated and even getCount() method was being called, although the final methods responsible to generate view ie..

1. onBindViewHolder() methods never got called. --> Problem 1.

2. When it got called finally it never show the list items/rows of recycler view. --> Problem 2.

Reason why this happened :: When you put a recycler view inside another recycler view, then height of the first/outer recycler view is not auto adjusted. It is defined when the first/outer view is created and then it remains fixed. At that point your second/inner recycler view has not yet loaded its items and thus its height is set as zero and never changes even when it gets data. Then when onBindViewHolder() in your second/inner recycler view is called, it gets items but it doesn't have the space to show them because its height is still zero. So the items in the second recycler view are never shown even when the onBindViewHolder() has added them to it.

Solution :: you have to create your custom LinearLayoutManager for the second recycler view and that is it. To create your own LinearLayoutManager: Create a Java class with the name CustomLinearLayoutManager and paste the code below into it. NO CHANGES REQUIRED

public class CustomLinearLayoutManager extends LinearLayoutManager {

    private static final String TAG = CustomLinearLayoutManager.class.getSimpleName();

    public CustomLinearLayoutManager(Context context) {
        super(context);

    }

    public CustomLinearLayoutManager(Context context, int orientation, boolean reverseLayout) {
        super(context, orientation, reverseLayout);
    }

    private int[] mMeasuredDimension = new int[2];

    @Override
    public void onMeasure(RecyclerView.Recycler recycler, RecyclerView.State state, int widthSpec, int heightSpec) {

        final int widthMode = View.MeasureSpec.getMode(widthSpec);
        final int heightMode = View.MeasureSpec.getMode(heightSpec);
        final int widthSize = View.MeasureSpec.getSize(widthSpec);
        final int heightSize = View.MeasureSpec.getSize(heightSpec);

        int width = 0;
        int height = 0;
        for (int i = 0; i < getItemCount(); i++) {
            measureScrapChild(recycler, i, View.MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(i, View.MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED),
                    View.MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(i, View.MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED),
                    mMeasuredDimension);

            if (getOrientation() == HORIZONTAL) {
                width = width + mMeasuredDimension[0];
                if (i == 0) {
                    height = mMeasuredDimension[1];
                }
            } else {
                height = height + mMeasuredDimension[1];
                if (i == 0) {
                    width = mMeasuredDimension[0];
                }
            }
        }
        switch (widthMode) {
            case View.MeasureSpec.EXACTLY:

In Angular, how to pass JSON object/array into directive?

What you need is properly a service:

.factory('DataLayer', ['$http',

    function($http) {

        var factory = {};
        var locations;

        factory.getLocations = function(success) {
            if(locations){
                success(locations);
                return;
            }
            $http.get('locations/locations.json').success(function(data) {
                locations = data;
                success(locations);
            });
        };

        return factory;
    }
]);

The locations would be cached in the service which worked as singleton model. This is the right way to fetch data.

Use this service DataLayer in your controller and directive is ok as following:

appControllers.controller('dummyCtrl', function ($scope, DataLayer) {
    DataLayer.getLocations(function(data){
        $scope.locations = data;
    });
});

.directive('map', function(DataLayer) {
    return {
        restrict: 'E',
        replace: true,
        template: '<div></div>',
        link: function(scope, element, attrs) {

            DataLayer.getLocations(function(data) {
                angular.forEach(data, function(location, key){
                    //do something
                });
            });
        }
    };
});

Combining (concatenating) date and time into a datetime

Cast it to datetime instead:

select CAST(CollectionDate as DATETIME) + CAST(CollectionTime as TIME)
from field

This works on SQL Server 2008 R2.

If for some reason you wanted to make sure the first part doesn't have a time component, first cast the field to date, then back to datetime.

How to force Chrome browser to reload .css file while debugging in Visual Studio?

Just had this problem where one person running Chrome (on a Mac) suddenly stopped loading the CSS file. CMD + R did NOT work at all. I don't like the suggestions above that force a permanent reload on the production system.

What worked was changing the name of the CSS file in the HTML file (and renaming the CSS file of course). This forced Chrome to go get the latest CSS file.

Apache 2.4 - Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error

You're getting into looping most likely due to these rules:

RewriteRule ^(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $1 [L]

Just comment it out and try again in a new browser.

Why is it OK to return a 'vector' from a function?

I do not agree and do not recommend to return a vector:

vector <double> vectorial(vector <double> a, vector <double> b)
{
    vector <double> c{ a[1] * b[2] - b[1] * a[2], -a[0] * b[2] + b[0] * a[2], a[0] * b[1] - b[0] * a[1] };
    return c;
}

This is much faster:

void vectorial(vector <double> a, vector <double> b, vector <double> &c)
{
    c[0] = a[1] * b[2] - b[1] * a[2]; c[1] = -a[0] * b[2] + b[0] * a[2]; c[2] = a[0] * b[1] - b[0] * a[1];
}

I tested on Visual Studio 2017 with the following results in release mode:

8.01 MOPs by reference
5.09 MOPs returning vector

In debug mode, things are much worse:

0.053 MOPS by reference
0.034 MOPs by return vector

How about building a Queue with the elements you want to iterate over; when you want to add elements, enqueue them at the end of the queue, and keep removing elements until the queue is empty. This is how a breadth-first search usually works.

I needed a non-interactive method for cloning a private repo.

Inspired by this issue: https://github.com/github/hub/issues/1644

Step 1.

Step 2.

git clone https://$token:[email protected]/$username/$repo.git

Abstraction vs Encapsulation in Java

Abstraction is about identifying commonalities and reducing features that you have to work with at different levels of your code.

e.g. I may have a Vehicle class. A Car would derive from a Vehicle, as would a Motorbike. I can ask each Vehicle for the number of wheels, passengers etc. and that info has been abstracted and identified as common from Cars and Motorbikes.

In my code I can often just deal with Vehicles via common methods go(), stop() etc. When I add a new Vehicle type later (e.g. Scooter) the majority of my code would remain oblivious to this fact, and the implementation of Scooter alone worries about Scooter particularities.

How to compare binary files to check if they are the same?

You can use MD5 hash function to check if two files are the same, with this you can not see the differences in a low level, but is a quick way to compare two files.

md5 <filename1>
md5 <filename2>

If both MD5 hashes (the command output) are the same, then, the two files are not different.

How to identify whether a grammar is LL(1), LR(0) or SLR(1)?

If you have no FIRST/FIRST conflicts and no FIRST/FOLLOW conflicts, your grammar is LL(1).

An example of a FIRST/FIRST conflict:

S -> Xb | Yc
X -> a
Y -> a

By seeing only the first input symbol a, you cannot know whether to apply the production S -> Xb or S -> Yc, because a is in the FIRST set of both X and Y.

An example of a FIRST/FOLLOW conflict:

S -> AB
A -> fe | epsilon
B -> fg

By seeing only the first input symbol f, you cannot decide whether to apply the production A -> fe or A -> epsilon, because f is in both the FIRST set of A and the FOLLOW set of A (A can be parsed as epsilon and B as f).

Notice that if you have no epsilon-productions you cannot have a FIRST/FOLLOW conflict.

PostgreSQL DISTINCT ON with different ORDER BY

A subquery can solve it:

SELECT *
FROM  (
    SELECT DISTINCT ON (address_id) *
    FROM   purchases
    WHERE  product_id = 1
    ) p
ORDER  BY purchased_at DESC;

Leading expressions in ORDER BY have to agree with columns in DISTINCT ON, so you can't order by different columns in the same SELECT.

Only use an additional ORDER BY in the subquery if you want to pick a particular row from each set:

SELECT *
FROM  (
    SELECT DISTINCT ON (address_id) *
    FROM   purchases
    WHERE  product_id = 1
    ORDER BY address_id, purchased_at DESC -- get "latest" row per address_id
    ) p
ORDER  BY purchased_at DESC;

If purchased_at can be NULL, use DESC NULLS LAST - and match your index for best performance. See:

Open firewall port on CentOS 7

While ganeshragav and Sotsir provide correct and directly applicable approaches, it is useful to note that you can add your own services to /etc/firewalld/services. For inspiration, look at /usr/lib/firewalld/services/, where firewalld's predefined services are located.

The advantage of this approach is that later you will know why these ports are open, as you've described it in the service file. Also, you can now apply it to any zone without the risk of typos. Furthermore, changes to the service will not need to be applied to all zones separately, but just to the service file.

For example, you can create /etc/firewalld/services/foobar.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<service>
  <short>FooBar</short>
  <description>
    This option allows you to create FooBar connections between

"Invalid signature file" when attempting to run a .jar

For those who got this error when trying to create a shaded uber-jar with maven-shade-plugin, the solution is to exclude manifest signature files by adding the following lines to the plugin configuration:

            <artifact>*:*</artifact>
            <excludes>

Send File Attachment from Form Using phpMailer and PHP

In my own case, i was using serialize() on the form, Hence the files were not being sent to php. If you are using jquery, use FormData(). For example

<form id='form'>
<input type='file' name='file' />
<input type='submit' />
</form>

Using jquery,

$('#form').submit(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
var formData = new FormData(this); // grab all form contents including files
//you can then use formData and pass to ajax

});

How to add Web API to an existing ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Application project?

The above solution works perfectly. I prefer to choose Web API option while selecting the project template as shown in the picture below

Note: The solution works with Visual Studio 2013 or higher. The original question was asked in 2012 and it is 2016, therefore adding a solution Visual Studio 2013 or higher.

Using sed and grep/egrep to search and replace

I couldn't get any of the commands on this page to work for me: the sed solution added a newline to the end of all the files it processed, and the perl solution was unable to accept enough arguments from find. I found this solution which works perfectly:

find . -type f -name '*.[hm]' -print0
    | xargs -0 perl -pi -e 's/search_regex/replacement_string/g'

This will recurse down the current directory tree and replace search_regex with replacement_string in any files ending in .h or .m.

I have also used rpl for this purpose in the past.

How can I convert a DateTime to the number of seconds since 1970?

I use year 2000 instead of Epoch Time in my calculus. Working with smaller numbers is easy to store and transport and is JSON friendly.

Year 2000 was at second 946684800 of epoch time.

Year 2000 was at second 63082281600 from 1-st of Jan 0001.

DateTime.UtcNow Ticks starts from 1-st of Jan 0001

Seconds from year 2000:

DateTime.UtcNow.Ticks/10000000-63082281600

Seconds from Unix Time:

DateTime.UtcNow.Ticks/10000000-946684800

For example year 2020 is:

var year2020 = (new DateTime()).AddYears(2019).Ticks; // Because DateTime starts already at year 1

637134336000000000 Ticks since 1-st of Jan 0001

63713433600 Seconds since 1-st of Jan 0001

1577836800 Seconds since Epoch Time

631152000 Seconds since year 2000

"Insufficient Storage Available" even there is lot of free space in device memory

I resolved this issue for myself. Though, the internal and SD memory was showing a lot of free space. It was an issue with phone memory, which was almost full.

Hence, I moved many of my apps from the phone memory to internal iemory, to free up the phone memory: Settings -> Storage -> Apps (under the internal storage section) -> Internal tab

Here are the ones which are not checked and that are occupying the space on the phone memory.

Click on the Apps (one by one) Click on the button: 'Move to Internal Storage'.

Once you free up a considerable amount of space on the phone memory this way, the error should not come.

        var outer = div.html();

Ordering by the order of values in a SQL IN() clause

Use MySQL's FIELD() function:

SELECT name, description, ...
FROM ...
WHERE id IN([ids, any order])
ORDER BY FIELD(id, [ids in order])

FIELD() will return the index of the first parameter that is equal to the first parameter (other than the first parameter itself).

FIELD('a', 'a', 'b', 'c')

will return 1

FIELD('a', 'c', 'b', 'a')

will return 3

This will do exactly what you want if you paste the ids into the IN() clause and the FIELD() function in the same order.

Using DateTime in a SqlParameter for Stored Procedure, format error

If you use Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data it'll make calling your sprocs a single line

SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(ConnectionString, "SprocName", DOB)

Oh and I think casperOne is correct...if you want to ensure the correct datetime over multiple timezones then simply convert the value to UTC before you send the value to SQL Server

SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(ConnectionString, "SprocName", DOB.ToUniversalTime())

Can enums be subclassed to add new elements?

No, you can't do this in Java. Aside from anything else, d would then presumably be an instance of A (given the normal idea of "extends"), but users who only knew about A wouldn't know about it - which defeats the point of an enum being a well-known set of values.

If you could tell us more about how you want to use this, we could potentially suggest alternative solutions.

How do I get a YouTube video thumbnail from the YouTube API?

You can use YouTube Data API to retrieve video thumbnails, caption, description, rating, statistics and more. API version 3 requires a key*. Obtain the key and create a videos: list request:

How do I get the information from a meta tag with JavaScript?

The other answers should probably do the trick, but this one is simpler and does not require jQuery:

document.head.querySelector("[property~=video][content]").content;

The original question used an RDFa tag with a property="" attribute. For the normal HTML <meta name="" …> tags you could use something like:

document.querySelector('meta[name="description"]').content

Angular 2: Can't bind to 'ngModel' since it isn't a known property of 'input'

I encountered a similar error after upgrading to RC5; i.e. Angular 2: Can't bind to 'ngModel' since it isn't a known property of 'input'.

The code on Plunker show you using Angular2 RC4, but the example code at https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/cookbook/dynamic-form.html is using NGModule which is part of RC5. NGModules is a breaking change from RC4 to RC5.

This page explains the migration from RC4 to RC5: https://angular.io/docs/ts/latest/cookbook/rc4-to-rc5.html

I hope this addresses the error you're getting and help get you going in the right direction.

In short, I had to create an NGModule in app.module.ts:

import { NgModule }      from '@angular/core';
import { BrowserModule } from '@angular/platform-browser';
import { FormsModule }   from '@angular/forms';

import { AppComponent }  from './app.component';

@NgModule({
    imports:      [ BrowserModule, FormsModule ],
    declarations: [ AppComponent ],
    bootstrap:    [ AppComponent ]
})
export class AppModule { }

I then changed main.ts to use the module:

import { platformBrowserDynamic } from '@angular/platform-browser-dynamic';
import { AppModule } from './app.module';

platformBrowserDynamic().bootstrapModule(AppModule);

Of course, I also needed to update the dependencies in package.json. Here's my dependencies from package.json. Admittedly, I've hobbled them together from other sources (maybe the ng docs examples), so your mileage may vary:

...
"dependencies": {
    "@angular/common": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "@angular/compiler": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "@angular/core": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "@angular/forms": "0.3.0",
    "@angular/http": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "@angular/platform-browser": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "@angular/platform-browser-dynamic": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "@angular/router": "3.0.0-rc.1",
    "@angular/router-deprecated": "2.0.0-rc.2",
    "@angular/upgrade": "2.0.0-rc.5",
    "systemjs": "0.19.27",
    "core-js": "^2.4.0",
    "reflect-metadata": "^0.1.3",
    "rxjs": "5.0.0-beta.6",
    "zone.js": "^0.6.12",
    "angular2-in-memory-web-api": "0.0.15",
    "bootstrap": "^3.3.6"
  },
...

I hope this helps better. :-)

Using a proxy tool like Charles Proxy really helps make short work of something like what you are asking. Here is what I do, using this SO page as an example (as of July 2015 using Charles version 3.10):

  1. Get Charles Proxy running
  2. Make web request using browser
  3. Find desired request in Charles Proxy
  4. Right click on request in Charles Proxy
  5. Select 'Copy cURL Request'

Copy cURL Request example in Charles 3.10.2

You now have a cURL request you can run in a terminal that will mirror the request your browser made. Here is what my request to this page looked like (with the cookie header removed):

curl -H "Host: stackoverflow.com" -H "Cache-Control: max-age=0" -H "Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,image/webp,*/*;q=0.8" -H "User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_10_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/44.0.2403.89 Safari/537.36" -H "HTTPS: 1" -H "DNT: 1" -H "Referer: https://www.google.com/" -H "Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.8,en-GB;q=0.6,es;q=0.4" -H "If-Modified-Since: Thu, 23 Jul 2015 20:31:28 GMT" --compressed http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28760694/how-to-use-curl-to-get-a-get-request-exactly-same-as-using-chrome

Invoking Java main method with parameters from Eclipse

AFAIK there isn't a built-in mechanism in Eclipse for this.

The closest you can get is to create a wrapper that prompts you for these values and invokes the (hardcoded) main. You then get you execution history as long as you don't clear terminated processes. Two variations on this are either to use JUNit, or to use injection or parameter so that your wrapper always connects to the correct class for its main.

What does "hard coded" mean?

Scenario

In a college there are many students doing different courses, and after an examination we have to prepare a marks card showing grade. I can calculate grade two ways

1. I can write some code like this

    if(totalMark <= 100 && totalMark > 90) { grade = "A+"; }
    else if(totalMark <= 90 && totalMark > 80) { grade = "A"; }
    else if(totalMark <= 80 && totalMark > 70) { grade = "B"; }
    else if(totalMark <= 70 && totalMark > 60) { grade = "C"; }

2. You can ask user to enter grade definition some where and save that data

Something like storing into a database table enter image description here

In the first case the grade is common for all the courses and if the rule changes the code needs to be changed. But for second case we are giving user the provision to enter grade based on their requirement. So the code will be not be changed when the grade rules changes.

That's the important thing when you give more provision for users to define business logic. The first case is nothing but Hard Coding.

So in your question if you ask the user to enter the path of the file at the start, then you can remove the hard coded path in your code.

Using ffmpeg to encode a high quality video

A couple of things:

  • You need to set the video bitrate. I have never used minrate and maxrate so I don't know how exactly they work, but by setting the bitrate using the -b switch, I am able to get high quality video. You need to come up with a bitrate that offers a good tradeoff between compression and video quality. You may have to experiment with this because it all depends on the frame size, frame rate and the amount of motion in the content of your video. Keep in mind that DVD tends to be around 4-5 Mbit/s on average for 720x480, so I usually start from there and decide whether I need more or less and then just experiment. For example, you could add -b 5000k to the command line to get more or less DVD video bitrate.

  • You need to specify a video codec. If you don't, ffmpeg will default to MPEG-1 which is quite old and does not provide near the amount of compression as MPEG-4 or H.264. If your ffmpeg version is built with libx264 support, you can specify -vcodec libx264 as part of the command line. Otherwise -vcodec mpeg4 will also do a better job than MPEG-1, but not as well as x264.

  • There are a lot of other advanced options that will help you squeeze out the best quality at the lowest bitrates. Take a look here for some examples.

What's onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)

onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) you will get the Bundle null when activity get starts first time and it will get in use when activity orientation get changed .......

http://www.gitshah.com/2011/03/how-to-handle-screen-orientation_28.html

Android provides another elegant way of achieving this. To achieve this, we have to override a method called onSaveInstanceState(). Android platform allows the users to save any instance state. Instance state can be saved in the Bundle. Bundle is passed as argument to the onSaveInstanceState method.

we can load the saved instance state from the Bundle passed as argument to the onCreate method. We can also load the saved instance state in onRestoreInstanceState method. But I will leave that for the readers to figure out.

Sending SMS from PHP

Clickatell is a popular SMS gateway. It works in 200+ countries.

Their API offers a choice of connection options via: HTTP/S, SMPP, SMTP, FTP, XML, SOAP. Any of these options can be used from php.

The HTTP/S method is as simple as this:

http://api.clickatell.com/http/sendmsg?to=NUMBER&msg=Message+Body+Here

The SMTP method consists of sending a plain-text e-mail to: [email protected], with the following body:

user: xxxxx
password: xxxxx
api_id: xxxxx
to: 448311234567
text: Meet me at home

You can also test the gateway (incoming and outgoing) for free from your browser

Docker expose all ports or range of ports from 7000 to 8000

Since Docker 1.5 you can now expose a range of ports to other linked containers using:

The Dockerfile EXPOSE command:

EXPOSE 7000-8000

or The Docker run command:

docker run --expose=7000-8000

Or instead you can publish a range of ports to the host machine via Docker run command:

docker run -p 7000-8000:7000-8000

Does MS SQL Server's "between" include the range boundaries?

The BETWEEN operator is inclusive.

From Books Online:

BETWEEN returns TRUE if the value of test_expression is greater than or equal to the value of begin_expression and less than or equal to the value of end_expression.

DateTime Caveat

NB: With DateTimes you have to be careful; if only a date is given the value is taken as of midnight on that day; to avoid missing times within your end date, or repeating the capture of the following day's data at midnight in multiple ranges, your end date should be 3 milliseconds before midnight on of day following your to date. 3 milliseconds because any less than this and the value will be rounded up to midnight the next day.

e.g. to get all values within June 2016 you'd need to run:

where myDateTime between '20160601' and DATEADD(millisecond, -3, '20160701')

i.e.

where myDateTime between '20160601 00:00:00.000' and '20160630 23:59:59.997'

datetime2 and datetimeoffset

Subtracting 3 ms from a date will leave you vulnerable to missing rows from the 3 ms window. The correct solution is also the simplest one:

where myDateTime >= '20160601' AND myDateTime < '20160701'

This is true of the extended form of the mailto: links, but it's also true in the commonly-used forms found in the other answers. Of the five parameters, four are identical (such as to, cc, bcc and body) and one received only slight modification (su is gmail's version of subject).

If you want to know more about what you can do with mailTo gmail URLs, then these RFCs might be of help. Unfortunately, Google has not published any source themselves.

To clarify the parameters:

  • to - Email to who
  • su (gmail API) / subject (mailTo API) - Email Title
  • body - Email Body
  • bcc - Email Blind-Carbon Copy
  • cc - Email Carbon Copy address

How long is the SHA256 hash?

  3. Binary: 8 bits per byte = BINARY(32)

Using a PHP variable in a text input value = statement

Solution

You are missing an echo. Each time that you want to show the value of a variable to HTML you need to echo it.

<input type="text" name="idtest" value="<?php echo $idtest; ?>" >

Note: Depending on the value, your echo is the function you use to escape it like htmlspecialchars.

UNIX nonblocking I/O: O_NONBLOCK vs. FIONBIO

As @Sean said, fcntl() is largely standardized, and therefore available across platforms. The ioctl() function predates fcntl() in Unix, but is not standardized at all. That the ioctl() worked for you across all the platforms of relevance to you is fortunate, but not guaranteed. In particular, the names used for the second argument are arcane and not reliable across platforms. Indeed, they are often unique to the particular device driver that the file descriptor references. (The ioctl() calls used for a bit-mapped graphics device running on an ICL Perq running PNX (Perq Unix) of twenty years ago never translated to anything else anywhere else, for example.)

What does MissingManifestResourceException mean and how to fix it?

Also the same error may occur when you put a new class into the source code of a designer created form's class.

This new class may be removed, and placed in a different cs file.

SQL Server: UPDATE a table by using ORDER BY

Edit

Following solution could have problems with clustered indexes involved as mentioned here. Thanks to Martin for pointing this out.

The answer is kept to educate those (like me) who don't know all side-effects or ins and outs of SQL Server.

Expanding on the answer gaven by Quassnoi in your link, following works

DECLARE @Test TABLE (Number INTEGER, AText VARCHAR(2), ID INTEGER)
DECLARE @Number INT

INSERT INTO @Test VALUES (1, 'A', 1)
INSERT INTO @Test VALUES (2, 'B', 2)
INSERT INTO @Test VALUES (1, 'E', 5)
INSERT INTO @Test VALUES (3, 'C', 3)
INSERT INTO @Test VALUES (2, 'D', 4)

SET @Number = 0

;WITH q AS (
    SELECT  TOP 1000000 *
    FROM    @Test
    ORDER BY
            ID
)
UPDATE  q

Linking to an external URL in Javadoc?

Taken from the javadoc spec

@see <a href="URL#value">label</a> : Adds a link as defined by URL#value. The URL#value is a relative or absolute URL. The Javadoc tool distinguishes this from other cases by looking for a less-than symbol (<) as the first character.

For example : @see <a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a>

Starting iPhone app development in Linux?

The only way I know of doing development in Linux for the iPhone would be to install Vmware and work on getting OS X running in a virtual machine. With that said there are some "legal" concerns in doing that. It is reported that OS X Server can be virtualized but as far as the development story on that I don't know.

If you are truly serious, that's the what I'd investigate.

Good luck.

How do I access previous promise results in a .then() chain?

I think you can use hash of RSVP.

Something like as below :

    const mainPromise = () => {
        const promise1 = new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
            setTimeout(() => {
                console.log('first promise is completed');
                resolve({data: '123'});
            }, 2000);
        });

        const promise2 = new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
            setTimeout(() => {
                console.log('second promise is completed');
                resolve({data: '456'});
            }, 2000);
        });

        return new RSVP.hash({
              prom1: promise1,
              prom2: promise2
          });

    };

   mainPromise()
    .then(data => {
        console.log(data.prom1);
        console.log(data.prom2);

Is JavaScript's "new" keyword considered harmful?

Here is the briefest summary I could make of the two strongest arguments for and against using the new operator:

Argument against new

  1. Functions designed to be instantiated as objects using the new operator can have disastrous effects if they are incorrectly invoked as normal functions. A function's code in such a case will be executed in the scope where the function is called, instead of in the scope of a local object as intended. This can cause global variables and properties to get overwritten with disastrous consequences.
  2. Finally, writing function Func(), and then calling Func.prototype and adding stuff to it so that you can call new Func() to construct your object seems ugly to some programmers, who would rather use another style of object inheritance for architectural and stylistic reasons.

For more on this argument check out Douglas Crockford's great and concise book Javascript: The Good Parts. In fact check it out anyway.

Argument in favor of new

  1. Using the new operator along with prototypal assignment is fast.
  2. That stuff about accidentally running a constructor function's code in the global namespace can easily be prevented if you always include a bit of code in your constructor functions to check to see if they are being called correctly, and, in the cases where they aren't, handling the call appropriately as desired.

See John Resig's post for a simple explanation of this technique, and for a generally deeper explanation of the inheritance model he advocates.

IntelliJ Organize Imports

Ctrl + Alt + O (Code ? Optimize Imports...) is what you're looking for, both on Windows/Linux and macOS keymaps.

It says "Optimize", but, if configured to do so, it will also:

  • organize existing imports
  • remove unneeded imports
  • add new required imports
  • add unambiguous imports on the fly

You can tune the auto-import settings under "Settings ? Editor ? General ? Auto Import" as described by Dave.

You can also modify how the imports are auto-ordered under "Settings ? Editor ? Code Style ? Java ? Imports"

How does collections.defaultdict work?

Usually, a Python dictionary throws a KeyError if you try to get an item with a key that is not currently in the dictionary. The defaultdict in contrast will simply create any items that you try to access (provided of course they do not exist yet). To create such a "default" item, it calls the function object that you pass to the constructor (more precisely, it's an arbitrary "callable" object, which includes function and type objects). For the first example, default items are created using int(), which will return the integer object 0. For the second example, default items are created using list(), which returns a new empty list object.

PostgreSQL : cast string to date DD/MM/YYYY

A DATE column does not have a format. You cannot specify a format for it.

You can use DateStyle to control how PostgreSQL emits dates, but it's global and a bit limited.

Instead, you should use to_char to format the date when you query it, or format it in the client application. Like:

SELECT to_char("date", 'DD/MM/YYYY') FROM mytable;

e.g.

regress=> SELECT to_char(DATE '2014-04-01', 'DD/MM/YYYY');
  to_char
------------
 01/04/2014
(1 row)

How to find the array index with a value?

It is possible to use a ES6 function Array.prototype.findIndex.

MDN says:

The findIndex() method returns the index of the first element in the array that satisfies the provided testing function. Otherwise -1 is returned.

var fooArray = [5, 10, 15, 20, 25];
console.log(fooArray.findIndex(num=> { return num > 5; }));

// expected output: 1

Find an index by object property.

To find an index by object property:

yourArray.findIndex(obj => obj['propertyName'] === yourValue)

For example, there is a such array:

let someArray = [
    { property: 'OutDate' },
    { property: 'BeginDate'},
    { property: 'CarNumber' },
    { property: 'FirstName'}
];

Then, code to find an index of necessary property looks like that:

let carIndex = someArray.findIndex( filterCarObj=>
    filterCarObj['property'] === 'CarNumber');

Writing MemoryStream to Response Object

I had the same problem and the only solution that worked was:

Response.Clear();
Response.ContentType = "Application/msword";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=myfile.docx");
Response.BinaryWrite(myMemoryStream.ToArray());
// myMemoryStream.WriteTo(Response.OutputStream); //works too
Response.Flush();
Response.Close();
Response.End();

convert pfx format to p12

This is more of a continuation of jglouie's response.

If you are using openssl to convert the PKCS#12 certificate to public/private PEM keys, there is no need to rename the file. Assuming the file is called cert.pfx, the following three commands will create a public pem key and an encrypted private pem key:

openssl pkcs12 -in cert.pfx -out cert.pem -nodes -nokeys
openssl pkcs12 -in cert.pfx -out cert_key.pem -nodes -nocerts
openssl rsa    -in cert_key.pem -out cert_key.pem -des3

The first two commands may prompt for an import password. This will be a password that was provided with the PKCS#12 file.

The third command will let you specify the encryption passphrase for the certificate. This is what you will enter when using the certificate.

Equivalent of SQL ISNULL in LINQ?

You can use the ?? operator to set the default value but first you must set the Nullable property to true in your dbml file in the required field (xx.Online)

var hht = from x in db.HandheldAssets

        from aa in DevInfo.DefaultIfEmpty()

        {
        AssetID = x.AssetID,
        Status = xx.Online ?? false

Date difference in minutes in Python

If you are trying to find the difference between timestamps that are in pandas columns, the the answer is fairly simple. If you need it in days or seconds then

# For difference in days:
df['diff_in_days']=(df['timestamp2'] - df['timestamp1']).dt.days
# For difference in seconds
df['diff_in_seconds']=(df['timestamp2'] - df['timestamp1']).dt.seconds

Now minute is tricky as dt.minute works only on datetime64[ns] dtype. whereas the column generated from subtracting two datetimes has format

AttributeError: 'TimedeltaProperties' object has no attribute 'm8'

So like mentioned by many above to get the actual value of the difference in minute you have to do:

df['diff_in_min']=df['diff_in_seconds']/60

But if just want the difference between the minute parts of the two timestamps then do the following

#convert the timedelta to datetime and then extract minute
df['diff_in_min']=(pd.to_datetime(df['timestamp2']-df['timestamp1'])).dt.minute

You can also read the article https://docs.python.org/3.4/library/datetime.html and see section 8.1.2 you'll see the read only attributes are only seconds,days and milliseconds. And this settles why the minute function doesn't work directly.

Are multiple `.gitignore`s frowned on?

I can think of at least two situations where you would want to have multiple .gitignore files in different (sub)directories.

  • Different directories have different types of file to ignore. For example the .gitignore in the top directory of your project ignores generated programs, while Documentation/.gitignore ignores generated documentation.

  • Ignore given files only in given (sub)directory (you can use /sub/foo in .gitignore, though).

Please remember that patterns in .gitignore file apply recursively to the (sub)directory the file is in and all its subdirectories, unless pattern contains '/' (so e.g. pattern name applies to any file named name in given directory and all its subdirectories, while /name applies to file with this name only in given directory).

Uploading file using POST request in Node.js

Looks like you're already using request module.

in this case all you need to post multipart/form-data is to use its form feature:

var req = request.post(url, function (err, resp, body) {
  if (err) {
    console.log('Error!');
  } else {
    console.log('URL: ' + body);
  }
});
var form = req.form();
form.append('file', '<FILE_DATA>', {
  filename: 'myfile.txt',
  contentType: 'text/plain'
});

but if you want to post some existing file from your file system, then you may simply pass it as a readable stream:

form.append('file', fs.createReadStream(filepath));

request will extract all related metadata by itself.

For more information on posting multipart/form-data see node-form-data module, which is internally used by request.

How to convert a date String to a Date or Calendar object?

tl;dr

LocalDate.parse( "2015-01-02" )

java.time

Java 8 and later has a new java.time framework that makes these other answers outmoded. This framework is inspired by Joda-Time, defined by JSR 310, and extended by the ThreeTen-Extra project. See the Tutorial.

The old bundled classes, java.util.Date/.Calendar, are notoriously troublesome and confusing. Avoid them.

LocalDate

Like Joda-Time, java.time has a class LocalDate to represent a date-only value without time-of-day and without time zone.

ISO 8601

If your input string is in the standard ISO 8601 format of yyyy-MM-dd, you can ask that class to directly parse the string with no need to specify a formatter.

The ISO 8601 formats are used by default in java.time, for both parsing and generating string representations of date-time values.

LocalDate localDate = LocalDate.parse( "2015-01-02" );

Formatter

If you have a different format, specify a formatter from the java.time.format package. You can either specify your own formatting pattern or let java.time automatically localize as appropriate to a Locale specifying a human language for translation and cultural norms for deciding issues such as period versus comma.

Formatting pattern

Read the DateTimeFormatter class doc for details on the codes used in the format pattern. They vary a bit from the old outmoded java.text.SimpleDateFormat class patterns.

Note how the second argument to the parse method is a method reference, syntax added to Java 8 and later.

String input = "January 2, 2015";
DateTimeFormatter formatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern ( "MMMM d, yyyy" , Locale.US );
LocalDate localDate = LocalDate.parse ( input , formatter );

Dump to console.

System.out.println ( "localDate: " + localDate );

localDate: 2015-01-02

Localize automatically

Or rather than specify a formatting pattern, let java.time localize for you. Call DateTimeFormatter.ofLocalizedDate, and be sure to specify the desired/expected Locale rather than rely on the JVM’s current default which can change at any moment during runtime(!).

String input = "January 2, 2015";
DateTimeFormatter formatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofLocalizedDate ( FormatStyle.LONG );
formatter = formatter.withLocale ( Locale.US );
LocalDate localDate = LocalDate.parse ( input , formatter );

Dump to console.

System.out.println ( "input: " + input + " | localDate: " + localDate );

input: January 2, 2015 | localDate: 2015-01-02

What are your favorite extension methods for C#? (codeplex.com/extensionoverflow)

I like these methods for dealing with enums that have the Flags attribute set:

public static bool AnyOf(this object mask, object flags)
{
    return ((int)mask & (int)flags) != 0;
}
public static bool AllOf(this object mask, object flags)
{
    return ((int)mask & (int)flags) == (int)flags;
}
public static object SetOn(this object mask, object flags)
{
    return (int)mask | (int)flags;
}
etc.

Example usage:

var options = SomeOptions.OptionA;
options = options.SetOn(OptionB);
options = options.SetOn(OptionC);

if (options.AnyOf(SomeOptions.OptionA | SomeOptions.OptionB))
{
etc.

The original methods were from this article: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/masksandflags.aspx?display=Print I just converted them to extension methods.

The one problem with them though is that the parameters of object type, which means that all objects end up being extended with these methods, whereas ideally they should only apply to enums.

Update As per the comments, you can get around the "signature pollution", at the expense of performance, like this:

public static bool AnyOf(this Enum mask, object flags)
{
    return (Convert.ToInt642(mask) & (int)flags) != 0;
}

How to get the public IP address of a user in C#

I have an extension method:

public static string GetIp(this HttpContextBase context)
{
    if (context == null || context.Request == null)
        return string.Empty;

    return context.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"]
           ?? context.Request.UserHostAddress;
}

Note: "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR" is for ip behind proxy. context.Request.UserHostAddress is identical to "REMOTE_ADDR".

But bear in mind it is not necessary the actual IP though.

How can I search Git branches for a file or directory?

git ls-tree might help. To search across all existing branches:

for branch in `git for-each-ref --format="%(refname)" refs/heads`; do
  echo $branch :; git ls-tree -r --name-only $branch | grep '<foo>'
done

The advantage of this is that you can also search with regular expressions for the file name.

Xamarin 2.0 vs Appcelerator Titanium vs PhoneGap

I haven't worked much with Appcelerator Titanium, but I'll put my understanding of it at the end.

I can speak a bit more to the differences between PhoneGap and Xamarin, as I work with these two 5 (or more) days a week.

If you are already familiar with C# and JavaScript, then the question I guess is, does the business logic lie in an area more suited to JavaScript or C#?

PhoneGap

PhoneGap is designed to allow you to write your applications using JavaScript and HTML, and much of the functionality that they do provide is designed to mimic the current proposed specifications for the functionality that will eventually be available with HTML5. The big benefit of PhoneGap in my opinion is that since you are doing the UI with HTML, it can easily be ported between platforms. The downside is, because you are porting the same UI between platforms, it won't feel quite as at home in any of them. Meaning that, without further tweaking, you can't have an application that feels fully at home in iOS and Android, meaning that it has the iOS and Android styling. The majority of your logic can be written using JavaScript, which means it too can be ported between platforms. If the current PhoneGap API does most of what you want, then it's pretty easy to get up and running. If however, there are things you need from the device that are not in the API, then you get into the fun of Plugin Development, which will be in the native device's development language of choice (with one caveat, but I'll get to that), which means you would likely need to get up to speed quickly in Objective-C, Java, etc. The good thing about this model, is you can usually adapt many different native libraries to serve your purpose, and many libraries already have PhoneGap Plugins. Although you might not have much experience with these languages, there will at least be a plethora of examples to work from.

Xamarin

Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android (also known as MonoTouch and MonoDroid), are designed to allow you to have one library of business logic, and use this within your application, and hook it into your UI. Because it's based on .NET 4.5, you get some awesome lambda notations, LINQ, and a whole bunch of other C# awesomeness, which can make writing your business logic less painful. The downside here is that Xamarin expects that you want to make your applications truly feel native on the device, which means that you will likely end up rewriting your UI for each platform, before hooking it together with the business logic. I have heard about MvvmCross, which is designed to make this easier for you, but I haven't really had an opportunity to look into it yet. If you are familiar with the MVVM system in C#, you may want to have a look at this. When it comes to native libraries, MonoTouch becomes interesting. MonoTouch requires a Binding library to tell your C# code how to link into the underlying Objective-C and Java code. Some of these libraries will already have bindings, but if yours doesn't, creating one can be, interesting. Xamarin has made a tool called Objective Sharpie to help with this process, and for the most part, it will get you 95% of the way there. The remaining 5% will probably take 80% of your time attempting to bind a library.

Update

As noted in the comments below, Xamarin has released Xamarin Forms which is a cross platform abstraction around the platform specific UI components. Definitely worth the look.

PhoneGap / Xamarin Hybrid

Now because I said I would get to it, the caveat mentioned in PhoneGap above, is a Hybrid approach, where you can use PhoneGap for part, and Xamarin for part. I have quite a bit of experience with this, and I would caution you against it. Highly. The problem with this, is it is such a no mans' land that if you ever run into issues, almost no one will have come close to what you're doing, and will question what you're trying to do greatly. It is doable, but it's definitely not fun.

Appcelerator Titanium

As I mentioned before, I haven't worked much with Appcelerator Titanium, So for the differences between them, I will suggest you look at Comparing Titanium and Phonegap or Comparison between Corona, Phonegap, Titanium as it has a very thorough description of the differences. Basically, it appears that though they both use JavaScript, how that JavaScript is interpreted is slightly different. With Titanium, you will be writing your JavaScript to the Titanium SDK, whereas with PhoneGap, you will write your application using the PhoneGap API. As PhoneGap is very HTML5 and JavaScript standards compliant, you can use pretty much any JavaScript libraries you want, such as JQuery. With PhoneGap your user interface will be composed of HTML and CSS. With Titanium, you will benefit from their Cross-platform XML which appears to generate Native components. This means it will definitely have a better native look and feel.

SELECT INTO USING UNION QUERY

You have to define a table alias for a derived table in SQL Server:

SELECT x.*
  INTO [NEW_TABLE]
  FROM (SELECT * FROM TABLE1
        UNION
        SELECT * FROM TABLE2) x

"x" is the table alias in this example.

sudo in php exec()

I had a similar situation trying to exec() a backend command and also getting no tty present and no askpass program specified in the web server error log. Original (bad) code:

$output = array();
$return_var = 0;
exec('sudo my_command', $output, $return_var);

A bash wrapper solved this issue, such as:

$output = array();
$return_var = 0;
exec('sudo bash -c "my_command"', $output, $return_var);

Not sure if this will work in every case. Also, be sure to apply the appropriate quoting/escaping rules on my_command portion.

Event for Handling the Focus of the EditText

  1. Declare object of EditText on top of class:

     EditText myEditText;

  2. Find EditText in onCreate Function and setOnFocusChangeListener of EditText:

    myEditText = findViewById(R.id.yourEditTextNameInxml);

    myEditText.setOnFocusChangeListener(new View.OnFocusChangeListener() {
                @Override
                public void onFocusChange(View view, boolean hasFocus) {
                    if (!hasFocus) {
                         Toast.makeText(this, "Focus Lose", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                    }else{
                        Toast.makeText(this, "Get Focus", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                    }

                }
            });

It works fine.

Which is preferred: Nullable<T>.HasValue or Nullable<T> != null?

There second method will be many times more effective (mostly because of compilers inlining and boxing but still numbers are very expressive):

public static bool CheckObjectImpl(object o)
{
    return o != null;
}

public static bool CheckNullableImpl<T>(T? o) where T: struct
{
    return o.HasValue;
}

So if you have an option (e.g. writing custom serializers) to process Nullable in different pipeline than object - and use their specific properties - do it and use Nullable specific properties. So from consistent thinking point of view HasValue should be preferred. Consistent thinking can help you to write better code do not spending too much time in details.

PS. People say that advice "prefer HasValue because of consistent thinking" is not related and useless. Can you predict the performance of this?

public static bool CheckNullableGenericImpl<T>(T? t) where T: struct
{
    return t != null; // or t.HasValue?
}

PPS People continue minus, seems nobody tries to predict performance of CheckNullableGenericImpl. I will tell you: there compiler will not help you replacing !=null with HasValue. HasValue should be used directly if you are interested in performance.

How to delete or change directory of a cloned git repository on a local computer

Just move it :)

command line :

move "C:\Documents and Setings\$USER\project" C:\project

or just drag the folder in explorer.

Git won't care where it is - all the metadata for the repository is inside a folder called .git inside your project folder.

How to get client's IP address using JavaScript?

All the above answers have a server part, not pure client part. This should be provided by the web browser. At present, no web browser support this.

However, with this addon for firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ip-address/ You will have to ask your users to install this addon. (it's good from me, a 3rd party).

you can test whether the user has installed it.

var installed=window.IP!==undefined;

you can get it with javascript, if it is installed, then var ip=IP.getClient(); var IPclient=ip.IP; //while ip.url is the url

ip=IP.getServer();
var IPserver=ip.IP;
var portServer=ip.port;
//while ip.url is the url

//or you can use IP.getBoth();

What is the best way to connect and use a sqlite database from C#

Another way of using SQLite database in NET Framework is to use Fluent-NHibernate.
[It is NET module which wraps around NHibernate (ORM module - Object Relational Mapping) and allows to configure NHibernate programmatically (without XML files) with the fluent pattern.]

Here is the brief 'Getting started' description how to do this in C# step by step:

https://github.com/jagregory/fluent-nhibernate/wiki/Getting-started

It includes a source code as an Visual Studio project.

How to Get a Sublist in C#

You want List::GetRange(firstIndex, count). See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/21k0e39c.aspx

// I have a List called list
List sublist = list.GetRange(5, 5); // (gets elements 5,6,7,8,9)
List anotherSublist = list.GetRange(0, 4); // gets elements 0,1,2,3)

Is that what you're after?

If you're looking to delete the sublist items from the original list, you can then do:

// list is our original list
// sublist is our (newly created) sublist built from GetRange()
foreach (Type t in sublist)
{
    list.Remove(t);
}

Counting the number of elements in array

Best practice of getting length is use length filter returns the number of items of a sequence or mapping, or the length of a string. For example: {{ notcount | length }}

But you can calculate count of elements in for loop. For example:

{% set count = 0 %}
{% for nc in notcount %}
    {% set count = count + 1 %}
{% endfor %}

{{ count }}

This solution helps if you want to calculate count of elements by condition, for example you have a property name inside object and you want to calculate count of objects with not empty names:

{% set countNotEmpty = 0 %}
{% for nc in notcount if nc.name %}
    {% set countNotEmpty = countNotEmpty + 1 %}
{% endfor %}

{{ countNotEmpty }}

How to create a date object from string in javascript

The syntax is as follows:

new Date(year, month [, day, hour, minute, second, millisecond ])

so

Date d = new Date(2011,10,30);

is correct; day, hour, minute, second, millisecond are optional.

Good way to encapsulate Integer.parseInt()

My Java is a little rusty, but let me see if I can point you in the right direction:

public class Converter {

    public static Integer parseInt(String str) {
        Integer n = null;

        try {
            n = new Integer(Integer.tryParse(str));
        } catch (NumberFormatException ex) {
            // leave n null, the string is invalid
        }

        return n;
    }

}

If your return value is null, you have a bad value. Otherwise, you have a valid Integer.

Iterating through a range of dates in Python

Using pendulum.period:

import pendulum

start = pendulum.from_format('2020-05-01', 'YYYY-MM-DD', formatter='alternative')
end = pendulum.from_format('2020-05-02', 'YYYY-MM-DD', formatter='alternative')

period = pendulum.period(start, end)

for dt in period:
    print(dt.to_date_string())

Gradle - Could not find or load main class

I resolved it by adding below code to my application.

// enter code here this is error I was getting when I run build.gradle. main class name has not been configured and it could not be resolved

public static void main(String[] args) {
    SpringApplication.run(Application.class, args);
}

How do I calculate the percentage of a number?

Divide $percentage by 100 and multiply to $totalWidth. Simple maths.

Laravel orderBy on a relationship

Try this solution.

$mainModelData = mainModel::where('column', $value)
    ->join('relationModal', 'main_table_name.relation_table_column', '=', 'relation_table.id')
    ->orderBy('relation_table.title', 'ASC')
    ->with(['relationModal' => function ($q) {
        $q->where('column', 'value');
    }])->get();

Example:

$user = User::where('city', 'kullu')
    ->join('salaries', 'users.id', '=', 'salaries.user_id')
    ->orderBy('salaries.amount', 'ASC')
    ->with(['salaries' => function ($q) {
        $q->where('amount', '>', '500000');
    }])->get();

You can change the column name in join() as per your database structure.

How to get difference between two dates in Year/Month/Week/Day?

This is actually quite tricky. A different total number of days can result in the same result. For example:

  • 19th June 2008 to 19th June 2010 = 2 years, but also 365 * 2 days

  • 19th June 2006 to 19th June 2008 = 2 years, but also 365 + 366 days due to leap years

You may well want to subtract years until you get to the point where you've got two dates which are less than a year apart. Then subtract months until you get to the point where you've got two dates which are less than a month apart.

Further confusion: subtracting (or adding) months is tricky when you might start with a date of "30th March" - what's a month earlier than that?

Even further confusion (may not be relevant): even a day isn't always 24 hours. Daylight saving anyone?

Even further confusion (almost certainly not relevant): even a minute isn't always 60 seconds. Leap seconds are highly confusing...

I don't have the time to work out the exact right way of doing this right now - this answer is mostly to raise the fact that it's not nearly as simple as it might sound.

EDIT: Unfortunately I'm not going to have enough time to answer this fully. I would suggest you start off by defining a struct representing a Period:

public struct Period
{
    private readonly int days;
    public int Days { get { return days; } }
    private readonly int months;
    public int Months { get { return months; } }
    private readonly int years;
    public int Years { get { return years; } }

    public Period(int years, int months, int days)
    {
        this.years = years;
        this.months = months;
        this.days = days;
    }

    public Period WithDays(int newDays)
    {
        return new Period(years, months, newDays);
    }

    public Period WithMonths(int newMonths)
    {
        return new Period(years, newMonths, days);
    }

    public Period WithYears(int newYears)
    {
        return new Period(newYears, months, days);
    }

    public static DateTime operator +(DateTime date, Period period)
    {
        // TODO: Implement this!
    }

    public static Period Difference(DateTime first, DateTime second)
    {
        // TODO: Implement this!
    }
}

I suggest you implement the + operator first, which should inform the Difference method - you should make sure that first + (Period.Difference(first, second)) == second for all first/second values.

Start with writing a whole slew of unit tests - initially "easy" cases, then move on to tricky ones involving leap years. I know the normal approach is to write one test at a time, but I'd personally brainstorm a bunch of them before you start any implementation work.

Allow yourself a day to implement this properly. It's tricky stuff.

Note that I've omitted weeks here - that value at least is easy, because it's always 7 days. So given a (positive) period, you'd have:

int years = period.Years;
int months = period.Months;
int weeks = period.Days / 7;
int daysWithinWeek = period.Days % 7;

(I suggest you avoid even thinking about negative periods - make sure everything is positive, all the time.)

Inline list initialization in VB.NET

Collection initializers are only available in VB.NET 2010, released 2010-04-12:

Dim theVar = New List(Of String) From { "one", "two", "three" }

Hibernate: flush() and commit()

In the Hibernate Manual you can see this example

Session session = sessionFactory.openSession();
Transaction tx = session.beginTransaction();

for (int i = 0; i < 100000; i++) {
    Customer customer = new Customer(...);
    session.save(customer);
    if (i % 20 == 0) { // 20, same as the JDBC batch size
        // flush a batch of inserts and release memory:
        session.flush();
        session.clear();
    }
}

tx.commit();
session.close();

Without the call to the flush method, your first-level cache would throw an OutOfMemoryException

Also you can look at this post about flushing

jQuery not working with IE 11

Thanks @Arnaud & @Conny for highlighting this answer. This really helped me.
