Programs & Examples On #Fennec

Fennec is the code name for the mobile version of Firefox.

Insert variable into Header Location PHP

Try using double quotes and keeping the L in location lowercase...

header("location: http://linkhere.com/HERE_I_WANT_THE_VARIABLE");

or for example

header("location: http://linkhere.com/$variable");

No need to concatenate here to insert variables.

Mobile Redirect using htaccess

First, go to the following URL and download the mobile_detect.php file:

http://code.google.com/p/php-mobile-detect/

Insert the following code on your index or home page:

<?php
@include("Mobile_Detect.php");
$detect = new Mobile_Detect();
if ($detect->isMobile() && isset($_COOKIE['mobile']))
{
$detect = "false";
}
elseif ($detect->isMobile())
{
header("Location:http://www.yourmobiledirectory.com");
}
?>

g++ ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64

finally solved my problem.

I created a new project in XCode with the sources and changed the C++ Standard Library from the default libc++ to libstdc++ as in this and this.

Creating a LINQ select from multiple tables

If the anonymous type causes trouble for you, you can create a simple data class:

public class PermissionsAndPages
{
     public ObjectPermissions Permissions {get;set}
     public Pages Pages {get;set}
}

and then in your query:

select new PermissionsAndPages { Permissions = op, Page = pg };

Then you can pass this around:

return queryResult.SingleOrDefault(); // as PermissionsAndPages

How to output numbers with leading zeros in JavaScript?

From https://gist.github.com/1180489

function pad(a, b){
  return(1e15 + a + '').slice(-b);
}

With comments:

function pad(
  a, // the number to convert
  b // number of resulting characters
){
  return (
    1e15 + a + // combine with large number
    "" // convert to string
  ).slice(-b) // cut leading "1"
}

How to align LinearLayout at the center of its parent?

The problem is that the root's (the main layout you store the other elements) gravity is not set. If you change it to center the other elements' gravity must work just fine.

What is a good alternative to using an image map generator?

This service is the best in online image map editing I found so far : http://www.image-maps.com/

... but it is in fact a bit weak and I personnaly don't use it anymore. I switched to GIMP and it is indeed pretty good.

The answer from mobius is not wrong but in some cases you must use imagemaps even if it seems a bit old and rusty. For instance, in a newsletter, where you can't use HTML/CSS to do what you want.

java get file size efficiently

I ran into this same issue. I needed to get the file size and modified date of 90,000 files on a network share. Using Java, and being as minimalistic as possible, it would take a very long time. (I needed to get the URL from the file, and the path of the object as well. So its varied somewhat, but more than an hour.) I then used a native Win32 executable, and did the same task, just dumping the file path, modified, and size to the console, and executed that from Java. The speed was amazing. The native process, and my string handling to read the data could process over 1000 items a second.

So even though people down ranked the above comment, this is a valid solution, and did solve my issue. In my case I knew the folders I needed the sizes of ahead of time, and I could pass that in the command line to my win32 app. I went from hours to process a directory to minutes.

The issue did also seem to be Windows specific. OS X did not have the same issue and could access network file info as fast as the OS could do so.

Java File handling on Windows is terrible. Local disk access for files is fine though. It was just network shares that caused the terrible performance. Windows could get info on the network share and calculate the total size in under a minute too.

Do you know the Maven profile for mvnrepository.com?

You can put this configuration in your settings.xml file:

            <repository>
                <id>mvnrepository</id>
                <url>http://repo1.maven.org/maven2</url>
                <snapshots>
                    <enabled>false</enabled>
                </snapshots>
                <releases>
                    <enabled>true</enabled>
                </releases>
            </repository>

Display image as grayscale using matplotlib

I would use the get_cmap method. Ex.:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

plt.imshow(matrix, cmap=plt.get_cmap('gray'))

Unbalanced calls to begin/end appearance transitions for <UITabBarController: 0x197870>

I had the same problem and thought I would post in case someone else runs into something similar.

In my case, I had attached a long press gesture recognizer to my UITableViewController.

UILongPressGestureRecognizer *longPressGesture = [[[UILongPressGestureRecognizer alloc]
                                                   initWithTarget:self
                                                   action:@selector(onLongPress:)]
                                                  autorelease];
[longPressGesture setMinimumPressDuration:1];
[self.tableView addGestureRecognizer:longPressGesture];

In my onLongPress selector, I launched my next view controller.

- (IBAction)onLongPress:(id)sender {

    SomeViewController* page = [[SomeViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SomeViewController" bundle:nil];

    [self.navigationController pushViewController:page animated:YES];

    [page release];

}

In my case, I received the error message because the long press recognizer fired more than one time and as a result, my "SomeViewController" was pushed onto the stack multiple times.

The solution was to add a boolean to indicate when the SomeViewController had been pushed onto the stack. When my UITableViewController's viewWillAppear method was called, I set the boolean back to NO.

How do I access store state in React Redux?

You should create separate component, which will be listening to state changes and updating on every state change:

import store from '../reducers/store';

class Items extends Component {
  constructor(props) {
    super(props);

    this.state = {
      items: [],
    };

    store.subscribe(() => {
      // When state will be updated(in our case, when items will be fetched),
      // we will update local component state and force component to rerender
      // with new data.

      this.setState({
        items: store.getState().items;
      });
    });
  }

  render() {
    return (
      <div>
        {this.state.items.map((item) => <p> {item.title} </p> )}
      </div>
    );
  }
};

render(<Items />, document.getElementById('app'));

implement addClass and removeClass functionality in angular2

You can basically switch the class using [ngClass]

for example

<button [ngClass]="{'active': selectedItem === 'item1'}" (click)="selectedItem = 'item1'">Button One</button>
<button [ngClass]="{'active': selectedItem === 'item2'}" (click)="selectedItem = 'item2'">Button Two</button>

How can I set the color of a selected row in DataGrid

I've tried ControlBrushKey but it didn't work for unselected rows. The background for the unselected row was still white. But I've managed to find out that I have to override the rowstyle.

<DataGrid x:Name="pbSelectionDataGrid" Height="201" Margin="10,0"
          FontSize="20" SelectionMode="Single" FontWeight="Bold">
    <DataGrid.Resources>
        <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.HighlightBrushKey}" Color="#FFFDD47C"/>
        <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.ControlBrushKey}" Color="#FFA6E09C"/>
        <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.HighlightTextBrushKey}" Color="Red"/>
        <SolidColorBrush x:Key="{x:Static SystemColors.ControlTextBrushKey}" Color="Violet"/>
    </DataGrid.Resources>
    <DataGrid.RowStyle>
        <Style TargetType="DataGridRow">
            <Setter Property="Background" Value="LightBlue" />
        </Style>
    </DataGrid.RowStyle>

How to know if an object has an attribute in Python

You can check whether object contains attribute by using hasattr builtin method.

For an instance if your object is a and you want to check for attribute stuff

>>> class a:
...     stuff = "something"
...
>>> hasattr(a,'stuff')
True
>>> hasattr(a,'other_stuff')
False

The method signature itself is hasattr(object, name) -> bool which mean if object has attribute which is passed to second argument in hasattr than it gives boolean True or False according to the presence of name attribute in object.

Use JsonReader.setLenient(true) to accept malformed JSON at line 1 column 1 path $

I have faced this problem and I made research and didn't get anything, so I was trying and finally, I knew the cause of this problem. the problem on the API, make sure you have a good variable name I used $start_date and it caused the problem, so I try $startdate and it works!

as well make sure you send all parameter that declare on API, for example, $startdate = $_POST['startdate']; $enddate = $_POST['enddate'];

you have to pass this two variable from the retrofit.

as well if you use date on SQL statement, try to put it inside '' like '2017-07-24'

I hope it helps you.

Prevent a webpage from navigating away using JavaScript

The equivalent to the accepted answer in jQuery 1.11:

$(window).on("beforeunload", function () {
    return "Please don't leave me!";
});

JSFiddle example

altCognito's answer used the unload event, which happens too late for JavaScript to abort the navigation.

How to start IIS Express Manually

From the links the others have posted, I'm not seeing an option. -- I just use powershell to kill it -- you can save this to a Stop-IisExpress.ps1 file:

get-process | where { $_.ProcessName -like "IISExpress" } | stop-process

There's no harm in it -- Visual Studio will just pop a new one up when it wants one.

Which type of folder structure should be used with Angular 2?

The official guideline is there now. mgechev/angular2-seed had alignment with it too. see #857.

batch file to copy files to another location?

It's easy to copy a folder in a batch file.

 @echo off
 set src_folder = c:\whatever\*.*
 set dst_folder = c:\foo
 xcopy /S/E/U %src_folder% %dst_folder%

And you can add that batch file to your Windows login script pretty easily (assuming you have admin rights on the machine). Just go to the "User Manager" control panel, choose properties for your user, choose profile and set a logon script.

How you get to the user manager control panel depends on which version of Windows you run. But right clicking on My Computer and choosing manage and then choosing Local users and groups works for most versions.

The only sticky bit is "when the folder is updated". This sounds like a folder watcher, which you can't do in a batch file, but you can do pretty easily with .NET.

Set Time and Date correct!

For me, it came out that my date and time was misconfigured on Raspberry Pi. The result was that all SSL and HTTPS connections failed, using the https://files.pythonhosted.org/ server.

Update it like this:

sudo date -s "Wed Thu  23 11:12:00 GMT+1 2018"
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

Or directly with e.g. Google's time:

Ref.: https://superuser.com/a/635024/935136

sudo date -s "$(curl -s --head http://google.com | grep ^Date: | sed 's/Date: //g')"
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

How to set commands output as a variable in a batch file

I found this thread on that there Interweb thing. Boils down to:

@echo off
setlocal enableextensions
for /f "tokens=*" %%a in (
'VER'
) do (
set myvar=%%a
)
echo/%%myvar%%=%myvar%
pause
endlocal

You can also redirect the output of a command to a temporary file, and then put the contents of that temporary file into your variable, likesuchashereby. It doesn't work with multiline input though.

cmd > tmpFile
set /p myvar= < tmpFile
del tmpFile

Concatenate two JSON objects

Based on your description in the comments, you'd simply do an array concat:

var jsonArray1 = [{'name': "doug", 'id':5}, {'name': "dofug", 'id':23}];
var jsonArray2 = [{'name': "goud", 'id':1}, {'name': "doaaug", 'id':52}];
jsonArray1 = jsonArray1.concat(jsonArray2);
// jsonArray1 = [{'name': "doug", 'id':5}, {'name': "dofug", 'id':23},
//{'name': "goud", 'id':1}, {'name': "doaaug", 'id':52}];

Difference between fprintf, printf and sprintf?

You can also do very useful things with vsnprintf() function:

$ cat test.cc
#include <exception>
#include <stdarg.h>
#include <stdio.h>

struct exception_fmt : std::exception
{
    exception_fmt(char const* fmt, ...) __attribute__ ((format(printf,2,3)));
    char const* what() const throw() { return msg_; }
    char msg_[0x800];
};

exception_fmt::exception_fmt(char const* fmt, ...)
{
    va_list ap;
    va_start(ap, fmt);
    vsnprintf(msg_, sizeof msg_, fmt, ap);
    va_end(ap);
}

int main(int ac, char** av)
{
    throw exception_fmt("%s: bad number of arguments %d", *av, ac);
}

$ g++ -Wall -o test test.cc

$ ./test
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'exception_fmt'
  what(): ./test: bad number of arguments 1
Aborted (core dumped)

TypeError: Missing 1 required positional argument: 'self'

Works and is simpler than every other solution I see here :

Pump().getPumps()

This is great if you don't need to reuse a class instance. Tested on Python 3.7.3.

What are the differences between "git commit" and "git push"?

Since git is a distributed version control system, the difference is that commit will commit changes to your local repository, whereas push will push changes up to a remote repo.

Calling onclick on a radiobutton list using javascript

How are you generating the radio button list? If you're just using HTML:

<input type="radio" onclick="alert('hello');"/>

If you're generating these via something like ASP.NET, you can add that as an attribute to each element in the list. You can run this after you populate your list, or inline it if you build up your list one-by-one:

foreach(ListItem RadioButton in RadioButtons){
    RadioButton.Attributes.Add("onclick", "alert('hello');");
}

ITextSharp HTML to PDF?

I prefer using another library called Pechkin because it is able to convert non trivial HTML (that also has CSS classes). This is possible because this library uses the WebKit layout engine that is also used by browsers like Chrome and Safari.

I detailed on my blog my experience with Pechkin: http://codeutil.wordpress.com/2013/09/16/convert-html-to-pdf/

How to import load a .sql or .csv file into SQLite?

Check out termsql. https://gitorious.org/termsql https://gitorious.org/termsql/pages/Home

It converts text to SQL on the command line. (CSV is just text)

Example:

cat textfile | termsql -o sqlite.db

By default the delimiter is whitespace, so to make it work with CSV that is using commata, you'd do it like this:

cat textfile | termsql -d ',' -o sqlite.db

alternatively you can do this:

termsql -i textfile -d ',' -o sqlite.db

By default it will generate column names "COL0", "COL1", if you want it to use the first row for the columns names you do this:

termsql -i textfile -d ',' -1 -o sqlite.db

If you want to set custom column names you do this:

termsql -i textfile -d ',' -c 'id,name,age,color' -o sqlite.db

Git pull command from different user

Your question is a little unclear, but if what you're doing is trying to get your friend's latest changes, then typically what your friend needs to do is to push those changes up to a remote repo (like one hosted on GitHub), and then you fetch or pull those changes from the remote:

  1. Your friend pushes his changes to GitHub:

    git push origin <branch>

  2. Clone the remote repository if you haven't already:

    git clone https://[email protected]/abc/theproject.git

  3. Fetch or pull your friend's changes (unnecessary if you just cloned in step #2 above):

    git fetch origin
    git merge origin/<branch>

    Note that git pull is the same as doing the two steps above:

    git pull origin <branch>

Ellipsis for overflow text in dropdown boxes

Found this absolute hack that actually works quite well:

https://codepen.io/nikitahl/pen/vyZbwR

Not CSS only though.

The basic gist is to have a container on the dropdown, .select-container in this case. That container has it's ::before set up to display content based on its data-content attribute/dataset, along with all of the overflow:hidden; text-overflow: ellipsis; and sizing necessary to make the ellipsis work.

When the select changes, javascript assigns the value (or you could retrieve the text of the option out of the select.options list) to the dataset.content of the container, and voila!

How do I download the Android SDK without downloading Android Studio?

Command line only without sdkmanager (for advanced users / CI):

You can find the download links for all individual packages, including various revisions, in the repository XML file: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/repository-12.xml

(where 12 is the version of the repository index and will increase in the future).

All <sdk:url> values are relative to https://dl.google.com/android/repository, so

<sdk:url>platform-27_r03.zip</sdk:url>

can be downloaded at https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-27_r03.zip

UnicodeDecodeError when reading CSV file in Pandas with Python

In my case this worked for python 2.7:

data = read_csv(filename, encoding = "ISO-8859-1", dtype={'name_of_colum': unicode}, low_memory=False)

And for python 3, only:

data = read_csv(filename, encoding = "ISO-8859-1", low_memory=False)

Stopping python using ctrl+c

The interrupt process is hardware and OS dependent. So you will have very different behavior depending on where you run your python script. For example, on Windows machines we have Ctrl+C (SIGINT) and Ctrl+Break (SIGBREAK).

So while SIGINT is present on all systems and can be handled and caught, the SIGBREAK signal is Windows specific (and can be disabled in CONFIG.SYS) and is really handled by the BIOS as an interrupt vector INT 1Bh, which is why this key is much more powerful than any other. So if you're using some *nix flavored OS, you will get different results depending on the implementation, since that signal is not present there, but others are. In Linux you can check what signals are available to you by:

$ kill -l
 1) SIGHUP       2) SIGINT       3) SIGQUIT      4) SIGILL       5) SIGTRAP
 6) SIGABRT      7) SIGEMT       8) SIGFPE       9) SIGKILL     10) SIGBUS
11) SIGSEGV     12) SIGSYS      13) SIGPIPE     14) SIGALRM     15) SIGTERM
16) SIGURG      17) SIGSTOP     18) SIGTSTP     19) SIGCONT     20) SIGCHLD
21) SIGTTIN     22) SIGTTOU     23) SIGIO       24) SIGXCPU     25) SIGXFSZ
26) SIGVTALRM   27) SIGPROF     28) SIGWINCH    29) SIGPWR      30) SIGUSR1
31) SIGUSR2     32) SIGRTMAX

So if you want to catch the CTRL+BREAK signal on a linux system you'll have to check to what POSIX signal they have mapped that key. Popular mappings are:

CTRL+\     = SIGQUIT
CTRL+D     = SIGQUIT
CTRL+C     = SIGINT
CTRL+Z     = SIGTSTOP
CTRL+BREAK = SIGKILL or SIGTERM or SIGSTOP

In fact, many more functions are available under Linux, where the SysRq (System Request) key can take on a life of its own...

How does the vim "write with sudo" trick work?

FOR NEOVIM

Due to problems with interactive calls (https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/1716), I am using this for neovim, based on Dr Beco's answer:

cnoremap w!! execute 'silent! write !SUDO_ASKPASS=`which ssh-askpass` sudo tee % >/dev/null' <bar> edit!

This will open a dialog using ssh-askpass asking for the sudo password.

set environment variable in python script

You can add elements to your environment by using

os.environ['LD_LIBRARY_PATH'] = 'my_path'

and run subprocesses in a shell (that uses your os.environ) by using

subprocess.call('sqsub -np ' + var1 + '/homedir/anotherdir/executable', shell=True)

Placing an image to the top right corner - CSS

You can just do it like this:

#content {
    position: relative;
}
#content img {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0px;
    right: 0px;
}

<div id="content">
    <img src="images/ribbon.png" class="ribbon"/>
    <div>some text...</div>
</div>

Display JSON Data in HTML Table

I created the following function to generate an html table from an arbitrary JSON object:

function toTable(json, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap){
    let tab;
    if(typeof colKeyClassMap === 'undefined'){
        colKeyClassMap = {};
    }
    if(typeof rowKeyClassMap === 'undefined'){
        rowKeyClassMap = {};
    }

    const newTable = '<table class="table table-bordered table-condensed table-striped" />';
    if($.isArray(json)){
        if(json.length === 0){
            return '[]'
        } else {
            const first = json[0];
            if($.isPlainObject(first)){
                tab = $(newTable);
                const row = $('<tr />');
                tab.append(row);
                $.each( first, function( key, value ) {
                    row.append($('<th />').addClass(colKeyClassMap[key]).text(key))
                });

                $.each( json, function( key, value ) {
                    const row = $('<tr />');
                    $.each( value, function( key, value ) {
                        row.append($('<td />').addClass(colKeyClassMap[key]).html(toTable(value, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap)))
                    });
                    tab.append(row);
                });

                return tab;
            } else if ($.isArray(first)) {
                tab = $(newTable);

                $.each( json, function( key, value ) {
                    const tr = $('<tr />');
                    const td = $('<td />');
                    tr.append(td);
                    $.each( value, function( key, value ) {
                        td.append(toTable(value, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap));
                    });
                    tab.append(tr);
                });

                return tab;
            } else {
                return json.join(", ");
            }
        }

    } else if($.isPlainObject(json)){
        tab = $(newTable);
        $.each( json, function( key, value ) {
            tab.append(
                $('<tr />')
                    .append($('<th style="width: 20%;"/>').addClass(rowKeyClassMap[key]).text(key))
                    .append($('<td />').addClass(rowKeyClassMap[key]).html(toTable(value, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap))));
        });
        return tab;
    } else if (typeof json === 'string') {
        if(json.slice(0, 4) === 'http'){
            return '<a target="_blank" href="'+json+'">'+json+'</a>';
        }
        return json;
    } else {
        return ''+json;
    }
};

So you can simply call:

$('#mydiv').html(toTable([{"city":"AMBALA","cStatus":"Y"},{"city":"ASANKHURD","cStatus":"Y"},{"city":"ASSANDH","cStatus":"Y"}]));

What is thread safe or non-thread safe in PHP?

For me, I always choose non-thread safe version because I always use nginx, or run PHP from the command line.

The non-thread safe version should be used if you install PHP as a CGI binary, command line interface or other environment where only a single thread is used.

A thread-safe version should be used if you install PHP as an Apache module in a worker MPM (multi-processing model) or other environment where multiple PHP threads run concurrently.

Can you change a path without reloading the controller in AngularJS?

Add following inside head tag

  <script type="text/javascript">
    angular.element(document.getElementsByTagName('head')).append(angular.element('<base href="' + window.location.pathname + '" />'));
  </script>

This will prevent the reload.

How to Split Image Into Multiple Pieces in Python

Not sure if this is the most efficient answer, but it works for me:

import os
import glob
from PIL import Image
Image.MAX_IMAGE_PIXELS = None # to avoid image size warning

imgdir = "/path/to/image/folder"
# if you want file of a specific extension (.png):
filelist = [f for f in glob.glob(imgdir + "**/*.png", recursive=True)]
savedir = "/path/to/image/folder/output"

start_pos = start_x, start_y = (0, 0)
cropped_image_size = w, h = (500, 500)

for file in filelist:
    img = Image.open(file)
    width, height = img.size

    frame_num = 1
    for col_i in range(0, width, w):
        for row_i in range(0, height, h):
            crop = img.crop((col_i, row_i, col_i + w, row_i + h))
            name = os.path.basename(file)
            name = os.path.splitext(name)[0]
            save_to= os.path.join(savedir, name+"_{:03}.png")
            crop.save(save_to.format(frame_num))
            frame_num += 1

Where is the syntax for TypeScript comments documented?

You can add information about parameters, returns, etc. as well using:

/**
* This is the foo function
* @param bar This is the bar parameter
* @returns returns a string version of bar
*/
function foo(bar: number): string {
    return bar.toString()
}

This will cause editors like VS Code to display it as the following:

serialize/deserialize java 8 java.time with Jackson JSON mapper

For those who use Spring Boot 2.x

There is no need to do any of the above - Java 8 LocalDateTime is serialised/de-serialised out of the box. I had to do all of the above in 1.x, but with Boot 2.x, it works seamlessly.

See this reference too JSON Java 8 LocalDateTime format in Spring Boot

Cannot download Docker images behind a proxy

To solve the problem with curl in Docker build, I added the following inside the Dockerfile:

ENV http_proxy=http://infoprx2:8080
ENV https_proxy=http://infoprx2:8080
RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y curl vim

Note that the ENV statement is BEFORE the RUN statement.

And in order to make the Docker daemon able to access the Internet (I use Kitematic with boot2docker), I added the following into /var/lib/boot2docker/profile:

export HTTP_PROXY=http://infoprx2:8080
export HTTPS_PROXY=http://infoprx2:8080

Then I restarted Docker with sudo /etc/init.d/docker restart.

Adding integers to an int array

Arrays are different than ArrayLists, on which you could call add. You'll need an index first. Declare i before the for loop. Then you can use an array access expression to assign the element to the array.

num[i] = s;
i++;

How can I change the date format in Java?

To Change the format of Date you have Require both format look below.

 String stringdate1 = "28/04/2010";

 try {

     SimpleDateFormat format1 = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
     Date date1 = format1.parse()
     SimpleDateFormat format2 = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy/MM/dd");

     String stringdate2 = format2.format(date1);
    } catch (ParseException e) {
   e.printStackTrace();
}

here stringdate2 have date format of yyyy/MM/dd. and it contain 2010/04/28.

Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed. - when following mvc3 asp.net tutorial

This happened to me because I created a new project which was trying to use System.Web.Providers DefaultMembershipProvider for membership. My DB and application was set up to use System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider instead. I had to update the provider and connection string (since this provider seems to have some weird connection string requirements) to get it working.

SQL Server - Return value after INSERT

You can append a select statement to your insert statement. Integer myInt = Insert into table1 (FName) values('Fred'); Select Scope_Identity(); This will return a value of the identity when executed scaler.

Is there a Pattern Matching Utility like GREP in Windows?

I also found one more way of utilizing GREP like functionality in Windows 7 and above without any extra application to install and on older systems you can use install Powershell.

In Powershell, User can use Where-Object it has quite comprehensive set of feature that provides all the functionality of GREP plus more.

Hope It helps.

IN Clause with NULL or IS NULL

The question as answered by Daniel is perfctly fine. I wanted to leave a note regarding NULLS. We should be carefull about using NOT IN operator when a column contains NULL values. You won't get any output if your column contains NULL values and you are using the NOT IN operator. This is how it's explained over here http://www.oraclebin.com/2013/01/beware-of-nulls.html , a very good article which I came across and thought of sharing it.

Windows.history.back() + location.reload() jquery

window.history.back() does not support reload or refresh of the page. But you can use following if you are okay with an extra refresh

window.history.back()
window.location.reload()

However a real complete solution would be as follows: I wrote a service to keep track of previous page and then navigate to that page with reload:true

Here is how i did it.

'use strict';

angular.module('tryme5App')
    .factory('RouterTracker', function RouterTracker($rootScope) {
          var routeHistory = [];
          var service = {
            getRouteHistory: getRouteHistory
          };

          $rootScope.$on('$stateChangeSuccess', function (ev, to, toParams, from, fromParams) {
              routeHistory = [];
              routeHistory.push({route: from, routeParams: fromParams});
          });

          function getRouteHistory() {
            return routeHistory;
          }

          return service;
    });

Make sure you have included this js file from you index.html

<script src="scripts/components/util/route.service.js"></script>

Now from you stateprovider or controller you can access this service and navigate

var routeHistory = RouterTracker.getRouteHistory();
console.log(routeHistory[0].route.name)
$state.go(routeHistory[0].route.name, null, { reload: true });

or alternatively even perform checks and conditional routing

var routeHistory = RouterTracker.getRouteHistory();
console.log(routeHistory[0].route.name)
if(routeHistory[0].route.name == 'seat') {
      $state.go('seat', null, { reload: true });
} else {
      window.history.back()
}

Make sure you have added RouterTracker as an argument in your function in my case it was :

.state('seat.new', {
                parent: 'seat',
                url: '/new',
                data: {
                    authorities: ['ROLE_USER'],
                },
                onEnter: ['$stateParams', '$state', '$uibModal', 'RouterTracker', function($stateParams, $state, $uibModal, RouterTracker) {
  $uibModal.open({
      //....Open dialog.....
 }).result.then(function(result) {
            var routeHistory = RouterTracker.getRouteHistory();
            console.log(routeHistory[0].route.name)
            $state.go(routeHistory[0].route.name, null, { reload: true });
 }, function() {
                    $state.go('^');
 })

Excel VBA Check if directory exists error

To be certain that a folder exists (and not a file) I use this function:

Public Function FolderExists(strFolderPath As String) As Boolean
    On Error Resume Next
    FolderExists = ((GetAttr(strFolderPath) And vbDirectory) = vbDirectory)
    On Error GoTo 0
End Function

It works both, with \ at the end and without.

Plotting a 3d cube, a sphere and a vector in Matplotlib

For drawing just the arrow, there is an easier method:-

from mpl_toolkits.mplot3d import Axes3D
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
fig = plt.figure()
ax = fig.gca(projection='3d')
ax.set_aspect("equal")

#draw the arrow
ax.quiver(0,0,0,1,1,1,length=1.0)

plt.show()

quiver can actually be used to plot multiple vectors at one go. The usage is as follows:- [ from http://matplotlib.org/mpl_toolkits/mplot3d/tutorial.html?highlight=quiver#mpl_toolkits.mplot3d.Axes3D.quiver]

quiver(X, Y, Z, U, V, W, **kwargs)

Arguments:

X, Y, Z: The x, y and z coordinates of the arrow locations

U, V, W: The x, y and z components of the arrow vectors

The arguments could be array-like or scalars.

Keyword arguments:

length: [1.0 | float] The length of each quiver, default to 1.0, the unit is the same with the axes

arrow_length_ratio: [0.3 | float] The ratio of the arrow head with respect to the quiver, default to 0.3

pivot: [ ‘tail’ | ‘middle’ | ‘tip’ ] The part of the arrow that is at the grid point; the arrow rotates about this point, hence the name pivot. Default is ‘tail’

normalize: [False | True] When True, all of the arrows will be the same length. This defaults to False, where the arrows will be different lengths depending on the values of u,v,w.

Numpy ValueError: setting an array element with a sequence. This message may appear without the existing of a sequence?

Z=np.array([1.0,1.0,1.0,1.0])

def func(TempLake,Z):
    A=TempLake
    B=Z
    return A*B
Nlayers=Z.size
N=3
TempLake=np.zeros((N+1,Nlayers))
kOUT=np.vectorize(func)(TempLake,Z)

This works too , instead of looping , just vectorize however read below notes from the scipy documentation : https://docs.scipy.org/doc/numpy/reference/generated/numpy.vectorize.html

The vectorize function is provided primarily for convenience, not for performance. The implementation is essentially a for loop.

If otypes is not specified, then a call to the function with the first argument will be used to determine the number of outputs. The results of this call will be cached if cache is True to prevent calling the function twice. However, to implement the cache, the original function must be wrapped which will slow down subsequent calls, so only do this if your function is expensive.

Specifying colClasses in the read.csv

If you want to refer to names from the header rather than column numbers, you can use something like this:

fname <- "test.csv"
headset <- read.csv(fname, header = TRUE, nrows = 10)
classes <- sapply(headset, class)
classes[names(classes) %in% c("time")] <- "character"
dataset <- read.csv(fname, header = TRUE, colClasses = classes)

unsigned APK can not be installed

You cannot install an unsigned application on a phone. You can only use it to test with an emulator. If you still want to go ahead, you can try self-signing the application.

Also, since you are installing the application from an SD card, I hope you have the necessary permissions set. Do go through stackoverflow.com and look at questions regarding installation of applications from an SD card - there have been many and they have been asked before.

Hope that helps.

disable a hyperlink using jQuery

The pointer-events CSS property is a little lacking when it comes to support (caniuse.com), but it's very succinct:

.my-link { pointer-events: none; }

mailto link with HTML body

Whilst it is NOT possible to use HTML to format your email body you can add line breaks as has been previously suggested.

If you are able to use javascript then "encodeURIComponent()" might be of use like below...

var formattedBody = "FirstLine \n Second Line \n Third Line";
var mailToLink = "mailto:[email protected]?body=" + encodeURIComponent(formattedBody);
window.location.href = mailToLink;

Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime

If I google for "Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime" I see numerous references to a problem accessing MySQL from Visual Studio. Is that your context?

One solution suggested is:

This is not a bug but expected behavior. Please check manual under connect options and set "Allow Zero Datetime" to true, as on attached pictures, and the error will go away.

Can anyone explain IEnumerable and IEnumerator to me?

A Minor contribution.

As many of them explain about 'when to use' and 'use with foreach'. I thought of adding Another States Difference here as requested in question about the difference between both IEnumerable an IEnumerator.

I created the below code sample based on the below discussion threads.

IEnumerable , IEnumerator vs foreach, when to use what What is the difference between IEnumerator and IEnumerable?

Enumerator preserves the state (iteration position) between function calls while iterations the other hand Enumerable does not.

Here is the tested example with comments to understand.

Experts please add/correct me.

static void EnumerableVsEnumeratorStateTest()
{
    IList<int> numList = new List<int>();

    numList.Add(1);
    numList.Add(2);
    numList.Add(3);
    numList.Add(4);
    numList.Add(5);
    numList.Add(6);

    Console.WriteLine("Using Enumerator - Remembers the state");
    IterateFrom1to3(numList.GetEnumerator());

    Console.WriteLine("Using Enumerable - Does not Remembers the state");
    IterateFrom1to3Eb(numList);

    Console.WriteLine("Using Enumerable - 2nd functions start from the item 1 in the collection");
}

static void IterateFrom1to3(IEnumerator<int> numColl)
{
    while (numColl.MoveNext())
    {
        Console.WriteLine(numColl.Current.ToString());

        if (numColl.Current > 3)
        {
            // This method called 3 times for 3 items (4,5,6) in the collection.
            // It remembers the state and displays the continued values.
            IterateFrom3to6(numColl);
        }
    }
}

static void IterateFrom3to6(IEnumerator<int> numColl)
{
    while (numColl.MoveNext())
    {
        Console.WriteLine(numColl.Current.ToString());
    }

        {
            // The below method invokes for the last 2 items.
            //Since it doesnot persists the state it will displays entire collection 2 times.
            IterateFrom3to6Eb(numColl);
        }

Euclidean distance of two vectors

If you want to use less code, you can also use the norm in the stats package (the 'F' stands for Forbenius, which is the Euclidean norm):

norm(matrix(x1-x2), 'F')

While this may look a bit neater, it's not faster. Indeed, a quick test on very large vectors shows little difference, though so12311's method is slightly faster. We first define:

set.seed(1234)
x1 <- rnorm(300000000)
x2 <- rnorm(300000000)

Then testing for time yields the following:

> system.time(a<-sqrt(sum((x1-x2)^2)))
user  system elapsed

Auto-increment primary key in SQL tables

  1. Presumably you are in the design of the table. If not: right click the table name - "Design".
  2. Click the required column.
  3. In "Column properties" (at the bottom), scroll to the "Identity Specification" section, expand it, then toggle "(Is Identity)" to "Yes".

Comparison of full text search engine - Lucene, Sphinx, Postgresql, MySQL?

Good to see someone's chimed in about Lucene - because I've no idea about that.

Sphinx, on the other hand, I know quite well, so let's see if I can be of some help.

  • Result relevance ranking is the default. You can set up your own sorting should you wish, and give specific fields higher weightings.
  • Indexing speed is super-fast, because it talks directly to the database. Any slowness will come from complex SQL queries and un-indexed foreign keys and other such problems. I've never noticed any slowness in searching either.
  • I'm a Rails guy, so I've no idea how easy it is to implement with Django. There is a Python API that comes with the Sphinx source though.
  • The search service daemon (searchd) is pretty low on memory usage - and you can set limits on how much memory the indexer process uses too.
  • Scalability is where my knowledge is more sketchy - but it's easy enough to copy index files to multiple machines and run several searchd daemons. The general impression I get from others though is that it's pretty damn good under high load, so scaling it out across multiple machines isn't something that needs to be dealt with.
  • There's no support for 'did-you-mean', etc - although these can be done with other tools easily enough. Sphinx does stem words though using dictionaries, so 'driving' and 'drive' (for example) would be considered the same in searches.
  • Sphinx doesn't allow partial index updates for field data though. The common approach to this is to maintain a delta index with all the recent changes, and re-index this after every change (and those new results appear within a second or two). Because of the small amount of data, this can take a matter of seconds. You will still need to re-index the main dataset regularly though (although how regularly depends on the volatility of your data - every day? every hour?). The fast indexing speeds keep this all pretty painless though.

I've no idea how applicable to your situation this is, but Evan Weaver compared a few of the common Rails search options (Sphinx, Ferret (a port of Lucene for Ruby) and Solr), running some benchmarks. Could be useful, I guess.

I've not plumbed the depths of MySQL's full-text search, but I know it doesn't compete speed-wise nor feature-wise with Sphinx, Lucene or Solr.

Origin http://localhost is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin

By localhost you have to use the null origin. I recommend you to create a list of allowed hosts and check the request's Host header. If it is contained by the list, then by localhost send back an

res.header('Access-Control-Allow-Origin', "null");

by any other domain an

res.header('Access-Control-Allow-Origin', hostSentByTheRequestHeader);

If it is not contained by the list, then send back the servers host name, so the browser will hide the response by those requests.

This is much more secure, because by allow origin * and allow credentials everybody will be capable of for example stealing profile data of a logged in user, etc...

So to summarize something like this:

if (reqHost in allowedHosts)
    if (reqHost == "http://localhost")
        res.header('Access-Control-Allow-Origin', "null");
    else
        res.header('Access-Control-Allow-Origin', reqHost);
else
    res.header('Access-Control-Allow-Origin', serverHost);

is the most secure solution if you want to allow multiple other domains to access your page. (I guess you can figure out how the get the host request header and the server host by node.js.)

How do I break out of a loop in Scala?

Below is code to break a loop in a simple way

import scala.util.control.Breaks.break

object RecurringCharacter {
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    val str = "nileshshinde";

    for (i <- 0 to str.length() - 1) {
      for (j <- i + 1 to str.length() - 1) {

        if (str(i) == str(j)) {
          println("First Repeted Character " + str(i))
          break() //break method will exit the loop with an Exception "Exception in thread "main" scala.util.control.BreakControl"

How to use LDFLAGS in makefile

Your linker (ld) obviously doesn't like the order in which make arranges the GCC arguments so you'll have to change your Makefile a bit:

CC=gcc
CFLAGS=-Wall
LDFLAGS=-lm

.PHONY: all
all: client

.PHONY: clean
clean:
    $(RM) *~ *.o client

OBJECTS=client.o
client: $(OBJECTS)
    $(CC) $(CFLAGS) $(OBJECTS) -o client $(LDFLAGS)

In the line defining the client target change the order of $(LDFLAGS) as needed.

What is a "thread" (really)?

In order to define a thread formally, we must first understand the boundaries of where a thread operates.

A computer program becomes a process when it is loaded from some store into the computer's memory and begins execution. A process can be executed by a processor or a set of processors. A process description in memory contains vital information such as the program counter which keeps track of the current position in the program (i.e. which instruction is currently being executed), registers, variable stores, file handles, signals, and so forth.

A thread is a sequence of such instructions within a program that can be executed independently of other code. The figure shows the concept: enter image description here

Threads are within the same process address space, thus, much of the information present in the memory description of the process can be shared across threads.

Some information cannot be replicated, such as the stack (stack pointer to a different memory area per thread), registers and thread-specific data. This information suffices to allow threads to be scheduled independently of the program's main thread and possibly one or more other threads within the program.

Explicit operating system support is required to run multithreaded programs. Fortunately, most modern operating systems support threads such as Linux (via NPTL), BSD variants, Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, etc. Operating systems may use different mechanisms to implement multithreading support.

Here, graphically, the concept is represented.

Here, you can find more information about the topic. That was also my information-source.

Let me just add a sentence coming from Introduction to Embedded System by Edward Lee and Seshia:

Threads are imperative programs that run concurrently and share a memory space. They can access each others’ variables. Many practitioners in the field use the term “threads” more narrowly to refer to particular ways of constructing programs that share memory, [others] to broadly refer to any mechanism where imperative programs run concurrently and share memory. In this broad sense, threads exist in the form of interrupts on almost all microprocessors, even without any operating system at all (bare iron).

Received an invalid column length from the bcp client for colid 6

I faced a similar kind of issue while passing a string to Database table using SQL BulkCopy option. The string i was passing was of 3 characters whereas the destination column length was varchar(20). I tried trimming the string before inserting into DB using Trim() function to check if the issue was due to any space (leading and trailing) in the string. After trimming the string, it worked fine.

You can try text.Trim()

C++ convert hex string to signed integer

For a method that works with both C and C++, you might want to consider using the standard library function strtol().

#include <cstdlib>
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main() {
    string s = "abcd";
    char * p;
    long n = strtol( s.c_str(), & p, 16 );
    if ( * p != 0 ) { //my bad edit was here
        cout << "not a number" << endl;
    }
    else {
        cout << n << endl;
    }
}

MySQL Alter Table Add Field Before or After a field already present

$query = "ALTER TABLE `" . $table_prefix . "posts_to_bookmark`
          ADD COLUMN `ping_status` INT(1) NOT NULL
          AFTER `<TABLE COLUMN BEFORE THIS COLUMN>`";

I believe you need to have ADD COLUMN and use AFTER, not BEFORE.

In case you want to place column at the beginning of a table, use the FIRST statement:

$query = "ALTER TABLE `" . $table_prefix . "posts_to_bookmark`
          ADD COLUMN `ping_status` INT(1) NOT NULL
          FIRST";

How to use the onClick event for Hyperlink using C# code?

The onclick attribute on your anchor tag is going to call a client-side function. (This is what you would use if you wanted to call a javascript function when the link is clicked.)

What you want is a server-side control, like the LinkButton:

<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkTutorial" runat="server" Text="Tutorial" OnClick="displayTutorial_Click"/>

This has an OnClick attribute that will call the method in your code behind.

Looking further into your code, it looks like you're just trying to open a different tutorial based on access level of the user. You don't need an event handler for this at all. A far better approach would be to just set the end point of your LinkButton control in the code behind.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    userinfo = (UserInfo)Session["UserInfo"];

    if (userinfo.user == "Admin")
    {
        lnkTutorial.PostBackUrl = "help/AdminTutorial.html";
    }
    else
    {
        lnkTutorial.PostBackUrl = "help/UserTutorial.html";
    }
}

Really, it would be best to check that you actually have a user first.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (Session["UserInfo"] != null && ((UserInfo)Session["UserInfo"]).user == "Admin")
    {
        lnkTutorial.PostBackUrl = "help/AdminTutorial.html";
    }
    else
    {
        lnkTutorial.PostBackUrl = "help/UserTutorial.html";
    }
}

remove item from array using its name / value

Created a handy function for this..

function findAndRemove(array, property, value) {
  array.forEach(function(result, index) {
    if(result[property] === value) {
      //Remove from array
      array.splice(index, 1);
    }
  });
}

//Checks countries.result for an object with a property of 'id' whose value is 'AF'
//Then removes it ;p
findAndRemove(countries.results, 'id', 'AF');

Creating an empty list in Python

list() is inherently slower than [], because

  1. there is symbol lookup (no way for python to know in advance if you did not just redefine list to be something else!),

  2. there is function invocation,

  3. then it has to check if there was iterable argument passed (so it can create list with elements from it) ps. none in our case but there is "if" check

In most cases the speed difference won't make any practical difference though.

Git undo local branch delete

If you just deleted the branch, you will see something like this in your terminal:

Deleted branch branch_name(was e562d13)
  • where e562d13 is a unique ID (a.k.a. the "SHA" or "hash"), with this you can restore the deleted branch.

To restore the branch, use:

git checkout -b <branch_name> <sha>

for example:

git checkout -b branch_name e562d13

Correct way to initialize empty slice

They are equivalent. See this code:

mySlice1 := make([]int, 0)
mySlice2 := []int{}
fmt.Println("mySlice1", cap(mySlice1))
fmt.Println("mySlice2", cap(mySlice2))

Output:

mySlice1 0
mySlice2 0

Both slices have 0 capacity which implies both slices have 0 length (cannot be greater than the capacity) which implies both slices have no elements. This means the 2 slices are identical in every aspect.

How to use if, else condition in jsf to display image

Instead of using the "c" tags, you could also do the following:

<h:outputLink value="Images/thumb_02.jpg" target="_blank" rendered="#{not empty user or user.userId eq 0}" />
<h:graphicImage value="Images/thumb_02.jpg" rendered="#{not empty user or user.userId eq 0}" />

<h:outputLink value="/DisplayBlobExample?userId=#{user.userId}" target="_blank" rendered="#{not empty user and user.userId neq 0}" />
<h:graphicImage value="/DisplayBlobExample?userId=#{user.userId}" rendered="#{not empty user and user.userId neq 0}"/>

I think that's a little more readable alternative to skuntsel's alternative answer and is utilizing the JSF rendered attribute instead of nesting a ternary operator. And off the answer, did you possibly mean to put your image in between the anchor tags so the image is clickable?

img src SVG changing the styles with CSS

This answer is based on answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/24933495/3890888 but with a plain JavaScript version of the script used there.

You need to make the SVG to be an inline SVG. You can make use of this script, by adding a class svg to the image:

/*
 * Replace all SVG images with inline SVG
 */
document.querySelectorAll('img.svg').forEach(function(img){
    var imgID = img.id;
    var imgClass = img.className;
    var imgURL = img.src;

    fetch(imgURL).then(function(response) {
        return response.text();
    }).then(function(text){

        var parser = new DOMParser();
        var xmlDoc = parser.parseFromString(text, "text/xml");

        // Get the SVG tag, ignore the rest
        var svg = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('svg')[0];

        // Add replaced image's ID to the new SVG
        if(typeof imgID !== 'undefined') {
            svg.setAttribute('id', imgID);
        }
        // Add replaced image's classes to the new SVG
        if(typeof imgClass !== 'undefined') {
            svg.setAttribute('class', imgClass+' replaced-svg');
        }

        // Remove any invalid XML tags as per http://validator.w3.org
        svg.removeAttribute('xmlns:a');

        // Check if the viewport is set, if the viewport is not set the SVG wont't scale.
        if(!svg.getAttribute('viewBox') && svg.getAttribute('height') && svg.getAttribute('width')) {
            svg.setAttribute('viewBox', '0 0 ' + svg.getAttribute('height') + ' ' + svg.getAttribute('width'))
        }

        // Replace image with new SVG
        img.parentNode.replaceChild(svg, img);

    });

});

And then, now if you do:

.logo-img path {
  fill: #000;
}

Or may be:

.logo-img path {
  background-color: #000;
}

How can I run code on a background thread on Android?

If you need run thread predioticly with different codes here is example:

Listener:

public interface ESLThreadListener {

    public List onBackground();

    public void onPostExecute(List list);

}

Thread Class

public class ESLThread extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, List> {

    private ESLThreadListener mListener;

    public ESLThread() {

        if(mListener != null){

            mListener.onBackground();
        }
    }

    @Override
    protected List doInBackground(Void... params) {

        if(mListener != null){

            List list = mListener.onBackground();

            return list;
        }

        return null;
    }

    @Override
    protected void onPostExecute(List t) {
        if(mListener != null){

            if ( t != null) {
                mListener.onPostExecute(t);
            }
        }

    }

    public void setListener(ESLThreadListener mListener){

        this.mListener = mListener;

MySQL: What's the difference between float and double?

Thought I'd add my own example that helped me see the difference using the value 1.3 when adding or multiplying with another float, decimal, and double .

1.3 float ADDED to 1.3 of different types:

|float              | double | decimal |
+-------------------+------------+-----+
|2.5999999046325684 | 2.6    | 2.60000 |

1.3 float MULTIPLIED by 1.3 of different types:

| 1.6899998760223411 | 1.6900000000000002 | 1.6900000000 |

<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" viewBox="0 0 20 20" preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" focusable="false" style="pointer-events: none; display: block; width: 100%; height: 100%;" >
    <defs>
        <mask id="Mask">
            <rect width="100%" height="100%" fill="#fff" />
            <polyline stroke-width="2.5" stroke="black" stroke-linecap="square" fill="none" transform="translate(10.373882, 8.762969) rotate(-315.000000) translate(-10.373882, -8.762969) " points="7.99893906 13.9878427 12.7488243 13.9878427 12.7488243 3.53809523"></polyline>
        </mask>
    </defs>
    <rect x="0" y="0" width="20" height="20" fill="white" mask="url(#Mask)" />
</svg>

and than use this css

background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: center center;
background-size: contain;
background-image: url(your/path/to.svg);
background-color: var(--color);

Docker compose, running containers in net:host

Those documents are outdated. I'm guessing the 1.6 in the URL is for Docker 1.6, not Compose 1.6. Check out the correct syntax here: https://docs.docker.com/compose/compose-file/#network_mode. You are looking for network_mode when using the v2 YAML format.

Do you use source control for your database items?

You should never just log in and start entering "ALTER TABLE" commands to change a production database. The project I'm on has database on every customer site, and so every change to the database is made in two places, a dump file that is used to create a new database on a new customer site, and an update file that is run on every update which checks your current database version number against the highest number in the file, and updates your database in place. So for instance, the last couple of updates:

if [ $VERSION \< '8.0.108' ] ; then
  psql -U cosuser $dbName << EOF8.0.108
    BEGIN TRANSACTION;
    --
    -- Remove foreign key that shouldn't have been there.
    -- PCR:35665
    --
    ALTER TABLE     migratorjobitems
    DROP CONSTRAINT migratorjobitems_destcmaid_fkey;
    --
    -- Increment the version
    UPDATE          sys_info
    SET             value = '8.0.108'
    WHERE           key = 'DB VERSION';
    END TRANSACTION;
EOF8.0.108
fi

if [ $VERSION \< '8.0.109' ] ; then
  psql -U cosuser $dbName << EOF8.0.109
    BEGIN TRANSACTION;
    --
    -- I missed a couple of cases when I changed the legacy playlist
    -- from reporting showplaylistidnum to playlistidnum
    --
    ALTER TABLE     featureidrequestkdcs
    DROP CONSTRAINT featureidrequestkdcs_cosfeatureid_fkey;
    ALTER TABLE     featureidrequestkdcs
    ADD CONSTRAINT  featureidrequestkdcs_cosfeatureid_fkey
    FOREIGN KEY     (cosfeatureid)
    REFERENCES      playlist(playlistidnum)
    ON DELETE       CASCADE;
    --
    ALTER TABLE     ticket_system_ids
    DROP CONSTRAINT ticket_system_ids_showplaylistidnum_fkey;
    ALTER TABLE     ticket_system_ids
    RENAME          showplaylistidnum
    TO              playlistidnum;
    ALTER TABLE     ticket_system_ids
    ADD CONSTRAINT  ticket_system_ids_playlistidnum_fkey
    FOREIGN KEY     (playlistidnum)
    REFERENCES      playlist(playlistidnum)
    ON DELETE       CASCADE;
    --
    -- Increment the version
    UPDATE          sys_info
    SET             value = '8.0.109'
    WHERE           key = 'DB VERSION';
    END TRANSACTION;
EOF8.0.109

I'm sure there is a better way to do this, but it's worked for me so far.

how much memory can be accessed by a 32 bit machine?

Basically, the term "x-bit machine" does not depend on your machine. That is why we do not need to change our processors or other hardware in order to migrate from a 32bit system to a 64bit one (or vice versa).

32bit and 64bit stands for the addressing capability of the OS running on your machine.

However, it still does not mean that a x-bit operating system is capable to address 2^x GB memory. Because the 'B' in "GB" means "byte" and not "bit". 1 byte equals 8 bits.

Actually a 32bit system can not even address 2^32/8 = 2^29 GB memory space while there should some memory be reserved to the OS.

It is something just below 3 GB.

TensorFlow: "Attempting to use uninitialized value" in variable initialization

It's not 100% clear from the code example, but if the list initial_parameters_of_hypothesis_function is a list of tf.Variable objects, then the line session.run(init) will fail because TensorFlow isn't (yet) smart enough to figure out the dependencies in variable initialization. To work around this, you should change the loop that creates parameters to use initial_parameters_of_hypothesis_function[i].initialized_value(), which adds the necessary dependency:

parameters = []
for i in range(0, number_of_attributes, 1):
    parameters.append(tf.Variable(
        initial_parameters_of_hypothesis_function[i].initialized_value()))

How can I backup a remote SQL Server database to a local drive?

I know this is late answer but I have to make a comment about most voted answer that says to use generate scripts option in SSMS.

Problem with that is this option doesn’t necessarily generate script in correct execution order because it doesn't take dependencies into account.

For small databases this is not an issue but for larger ones it certainly is because it requires to manually re-order that script. Try that on 500 object database ;)

Unfortunately in this case the only solution are third party tools.

I successfully used comparison tools from ApexSQL (Diff and Data Diff) for similar tasks but you can’t go wrong with any other already mentioned here, especially Red Gate.

How to parse JSON and access results

The main problem with your example code is that the $result variable you use to store the output of curl_exec() does not contain the body of the HTTP response - it contains the value true. If you try to print_r() that, it will just say "1".

The curl_exec() reference explains:

Return Values

Returns TRUE on success or FALSE on failure. However, if the CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER option is set, it will return the result on success, FALSE on failure.

So if you want to get the HTTP response body in your $result variable, you must first run

curl_setopt($cURL, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);

After that, you can call json_decode() on $result, as other answers have noted.

On a general note - the curl library for PHP is useful and has a lot of features to handle the minutia of HTTP protocol (and others), but if all you want is to GET some resource or even POST to some URL, and read the response - then file_get_contents() is all you'll ever need: it is much simpler to use and have much less surprising behavior to worry about.

Socket transport "ssl" in PHP not enabled

Ran into the same problem on Laravel 4 trying to send e-mail using SSL encryption.

Having WAMPServer 2.2 on Windows 7 64bit I only enabled php_openssl in the php.ini, restarted WAMPServer and worked flawlessly.

Did following:

  • Click WampServer -> PHP -> PHP extensions -> php_openssl
  • Restart WampServer

Add event handler for body.onload by javascript within <body> part

body.addEventListener("load", init(), false);

That init() is saying run this function now and assign whatever it returns to the load event.

What you want is to assign the reference to the function, not the result. So you need to drop the ().

body.addEventListener("load", init, false);

Also you should be using window.onload and not body.onload

addEventListener is supported in most browsers except IE 8.

Mean per group in a data.frame

I describe two ways to do this, one based on data.table and the other based on reshape2 package . The data.table way already has an answer, but I have tried to make it cleaner and more detailed.

The data is like this:

 d <- structure(list(Name = structure(c(1L, 1L, 1L, 2L, 2L, 2L, 3L,
3L, 3L), .Label = c("Aira", "Ben", "Cat"), class = "factor"),
    Month = c(1L, 2L, 3L, 1L, 2L, 3L, 1L, 2L, 3L), Rate1 = c(12L,
    18L, 19L, 53L, 22L, 19L, 22L, 67L, 45L), Rate2 = c(23L, 73L,
    45L, 19L, 87L, 45L, 87L, 43L, 32L)), .Names = c("Name", "Month",
"Rate1", "Rate2"), class = "data.frame", row.names = c(NA, -9L
))
head(d)
  Name Month Rate1 Rate2
1 Aira     1    12    23
2 Aira     2    18    73
3 Aira     3    19    45
4  Ben     1    53    19
5  Ben     2    22    87
6  Ben     3    19    45

library("reshape2")
mym <- melt(d, id = c("Name"))
res <- dcast(mym, Name ~ variable, mean)
res
#Name Month    Rate1    Rate2
#1 Aira     2 16.33333 47.00000
#2  Ben     2 31.33333 50.33333
#3  Cat     2 44.66667 54.00000

Using data.table:

# At first, I convert the data.frame to data.table and then I group it
setDT(d)
d[, .(Rate1 = mean(Rate1), Rate2 = mean(Rate2)), by = .(Name)]
#   Name    Rate1    Rate2
#1: Aira 16.33333 47.00000
#2:  Ben 31.33333 50.33333
#3:  Cat 44.66667 54.00000

There is another way of doing it by avoiding to write many argument for j in data.table using a .SD

d[, lapply(.SD, mean), by = .(Name)]
#   Name Month    Rate1    Rate2
#1: Aira     2 16.33333 47.00000
#2:  Ben     2 31.33333 50.33333
#3:  Cat     2 44.66667 54.00000

if we only want to have Rate1 and Rate2 then we can use the .SDcols as follows:

d[, lapply(.SD, mean), by = .(Name), .SDcols = 3:4]
#  Name    Rate1    Rate2
#1: Aira 16.33333 47.00000
#2:  Ben 31.33333 50.33333
#3:  Cat 44.66667 54.00000

JSON for List of int

Assuming your ints are 0, 375, 668,5 and 6:

{
    "Id": "610",
    "Name": "15",
    "Description": "1.99",
    "ItemModList": [
                       0,
                       375,
                       668,
                       5,
                       6
                   ]
}

I suggest that you change "Id": "610" to "Id": 610 since it is a integer/long and not a string. You can read more about the JSON format and examples here http://json.org/

Testing pointers for validity (C/C++)

It is not a very good policy to accept arbitrary pointers as input parameters in a public API. It's better to have "plain data" types like an integer, a string or a struct (I mean a classical struct with plain data inside, of course; officially anything can be a struct).

Why? Well because as others say there is no standard way to know whether you've been given a valid pointer or one that points to junk.

But sometimes you don't have the choice - your API must accept a pointer.

In these cases, it is the duty of the caller to pass a good pointer. NULL may be accepted as a value, but not a pointer to junk.

Can you double-check in any way? Well, what I did in a case like that was to define an invariant for the type the pointer points to, and call it when you get it (in debug mode). At least if the invariant fails (or crashes) you know that you were passed a bad value.

// API that does not allow NULL
void PublicApiFunction1(Person* in_person)
{
  assert(in_person != NULL);
  assert(in_person->Invariant());

  // Actual code...
}

// API that allows NULL
void PublicApiFunction2(Person* in_person)
{
  assert(in_person == NULL || in_person->Invariant());

  // Actual code (must keep in mind that in_person may be NULL)
}

Another variation you can try is(expanding @mnel's answer) if you have many temp'x'.

here "n" could be the number of temp variables present

How to access PHP session variables from jQuery function in a .js file?

You can pass you session variables from your php script to JQUERY using JSON such as

JS:

jQuery("#rowed2").jqGrid({
    url:'yourphp.php?q=3',
    datatype: "json",
    colNames:['Actions'],
    colModel:[{
                name:'Actions',
                index:'Actions',
                width:155,
                sortable:false
              }],
    rowNum:30,
    rowList:[50,100,150,200,300,400,500,600],
    pager: '#prowed2',
    sortname: 'id',
    height: 660,
    viewrecords: true,
    sortorder: 'desc',
    gridview:true,
    editurl: 'yourphp.php',
    caption: 'Caption',
    gridComplete: function() {
        var ids = jQuery("#rowed2").jqGrid('getDataIDs');
        for (var i = 0; i < ids.length; i++) {
            var cl = ids[i];
            be = "<input style='height:22px;width:50px;' `enter code here` type='button' value='Edit' onclick=\"jQuery('#rowed2').editRow('"+cl+"');\" />";
            se = "<input style='height:22px;width:50px;' type='button' value='Save' onclick=\"jQuery('#rowed2').saveRow('"+cl+"');\" />";
            ce = "<input style='height:22px;width:50px;' type='button' value='Cancel' onclick=\"jQuery('#rowed2').restoreRow('"+cl+"');\" />";
            jQuery("#rowed2").jqGrid('setRowData', ids[i], {Actions:be+se+ce});
        }
    }
});

PHP

// start your session
session_start();

// get session from database or create you own
$session_username = $_SESSION['John'];
$session_email = $_SESSION['[email protected]'];

$response = new stdClass();
$response->session_username = $session_username;
$response->session_email = $session_email;

$i = 0;
while ($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result)) {
    $response->rows[$i]['id'] = $row['ID'];
    $response->rows[$i]['cell'] = array("", $row['rowvariable1'], $row['rowvariable2']);
    $i++;
}

echo json_encode($response);
// this response (which contains your Session variables) is sent back to your JQUERY

Is there a command line command for verifying what version of .NET is installed

Unfortunately the best way would be to check for that directory. I am not sure what you mean but "actually installed" as .NET 3.5 uses the same CLR as .NET 3.0 and .NET 2.0 so all new functionality is wrapped up in new assemblies that live in that directory. Basically, if the directory is there then 3.5 is installed.

Only thing I would add is to find the dir this way for maximum flexibility:

%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5

Create comma separated strings C#?

You can use the string.Join method to do something like string.Join(",", o.Number, o.Id, o.whatever, ...).

edit: As digEmAll said, string.Join is faster than StringBuilder. They use an external implementation for the string.Join.

Profiling code (of course run in release without debug symbols):

class Program
{
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        Stopwatch sw = new Stopwatch();
        string r;
        int iter = 10000;

        string[] values = { "a", "b", "c", "d", "a little bit longer please", "one more time" };

        sw.Restart();
        for (int i = 0; i < iter; i++)
            r = Program.StringJoin(",", values);
        sw.Stop();
        Console.WriteLine("string.Join ({0} times): {1}ms", iter, sw.ElapsedMilliseconds);

        sw.Restart();
        for (int i = 0; i < iter; i++)
            r = Program.StringBuilderAppend(",", values);
        sw.Stop();
        Console.WriteLine("StringBuilder.Append ({0} times): {1}ms", iter, sw.ElapsedMilliseconds);
        Console.ReadLine();
    }

    static string StringJoin(string seperator, params string[] values)
    {
        return string.Join(seperator, values);
    }

    static string StringBuilderAppend(string seperator, params string[] values)
    {
        StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder();
        builder.Append(values[0]);
        for (int i = 1; i < values.Length; i++)
        {
            builder.Append(seperator);
            builder.Append(values[i]);
        }
        return builder.ToString();
    }
}

string.Join took 2ms on my machine and StringBuilder.Append 5ms. So there is noteworthy difference. Thanks to digAmAll for the hint.

Can a shell script set environment variables of the calling shell?

Add the -l flag in top of your bash script i.e.

#!/usr/bin/env bash -l

...

export NAME1="VALUE1"
export NAME2="VALUE2"

The values with NAME1 and NAME2 will now have been exported to your current environment, however these changes are not permanent. If you want them to be permanent you need to add them to your .bashrc file or other init file.

From the man pages:

-l Make bash act as if it had been invoked as a login shell (see INVOCATION below).

Google Chrome "window.open" workaround?

I believe currently there is no javascript way to force chrome to open as a new window in tab mode. A ticket has been submitted as in here Pop-ups to show as tab by default. But the user can click the chrome icon on the top left corner and select "Show as tab", the address bar then becomes editable.

A similar question asked in javascript open in a new window not tab.

Prefer composition over inheritance?

Didn't find a satisfactory answer here, so I wrote a new one.

To understand why "prefer composition over inheritance", we need first get back the assumption omitted in this shortened idiom.

There are two benefits of inheritance: subtyping and subclassing

  1. Subtyping means conforming to a type (interface) signature, i.e. a set of APIs, and one can override part of the signature to achieve subtyping polymorphism.

  2. Subclassing means implicit reuse of method implementations.

With the two benefits comes two different purposes for doing inheritance: subtyping oriented and code reuse oriented.

If code reuse is the sole purpose, subclassing may give one more than what he needs, i.e. some public methods of the parent class don't make much sense for the child class. In this case, instead of favoring composition over inheritance, composition is demanded. This is also where the "is-a" vs. "has-a" notion comes from.

So only when subtyping is purposed, i.e. to use the new class later in a polymorphic manner, do we face the problem of choosing inheritance or composition. This is the assumption that gets omitted in the shortened idiom under discussion.

To subtype is to conform to a type signature, this means composition has always to expose no less amount of APIs of the type. Now the trade offs kick in:

  1. Inheritance provides straightforward code reuse if not overridden, while composition has to re-code every API, even if it's just a simple job of delegation.

  2. Inheritance provides straightforward open recursion via the internal polymorphic site this, i.e. invoking overriding method (or even type) in another member function, either public or private (though discouraged). Open recursion can be simulated via composition, but it requires extra effort and may not always viable(?). This answer to a duplicated question talks something similar.

  3. Inheritance exposes protected members. This breaks encapsulation of the parent class, and if used by subclass, another dependency between the child and its parent is introduced.

  4. Composition has the befit of inversion of control, and its dependency can be injected dynamically, as is shown in decorator pattern and proxy pattern.

  5. Composition has the benefit of combinator-oriented programming, i.e. working in a way like the composite pattern.

  6. Composition immediately follows programming to an interface.

  7. Composition has the benefit of easy multiple inheritance.

With the above trade offs in mind, we hence prefer composition over inheritance. Yet for tightly related classes, i.e. when implicit code reuse really make benefits, or the magic power of open recursion is desired, inheritance shall be the choice.

how to start stop tomcat server using CMD?

You can use the following command c:\path of you tomcat directory\bin>catalina run

Init array of structs in Go

It looks like you are trying to use (almost) straight up C code here. Go has a few differences.

  • First off, you can't initialize arrays and slices as const. The term const has a different meaning in Go, as it does in C. The list should be defined as var instead.
  • Secondly, as a style rule, Go prefers basenameOpts as opposed to basename_opts.
  • There is no char type in Go. You probably want byte (or rune if you intend to allow unicode codepoints).
  • The declaration of the list must have the assignment operator in this case. E.g.: var x = foo.
  • Go's parser requires that each element in a list declaration ends with a comma. This includes the last element. The reason for this is because Go automatically inserts semi-colons where needed. And this requires somewhat stricter syntax in order to work.

For example:

type opt struct {
    shortnm      byte
    longnm, help string
    needArg      bool
}

var basenameOpts = []opt {
    opt {
        shortnm: 'a',
        longnm: "multiple",
        needArg: false,
        help: "Usage for a",
    },
    opt {
        shortnm: 'b',
        longnm: "b-option",
        needArg: false,
        help: "Usage for b",
    },
}

An alternative is to declare the list with its type and then use an init function to fill it up. This is mostly useful if you intend to use values returned by functions in the data structure. init functions are run when the program is being initialized and are guaranteed to finish before main is executed. You can have multiple init functions in a package, or even in the same source file.

    type opt struct {
        shortnm      byte
        longnm, help string
        needArg      bool
    }

    var basenameOpts []opt

    func init() {
        basenameOpts = []opt{
            opt {
                shortnm: 'a',
                longnm: "multiple",
                needArg: false,
                help: "Usage for a",
            },
            opt {
                shortnm: 'b',
                longnm: "b-option",
                needArg: false,
               help: "Usage for b",
            },
        }
    }

Since you are new to Go, I strongly recommend reading through the language specification. It is pretty short and very clearly written. It will clear a lot of these little idiosyncrasies up for you.

R barplot Y-axis scale too short

I see you try to set ylim but you give bad values. This will change the scale of the plot (like a zoom). For example see this:

par(mfrow=c(2,1))
tN <- table(Ni <- stats::rpois(100, lambda = 5))
r <- barplot(tN, col = rainbow(20),ylim=c(0,50),main='long y-axis')
r <- barplot(tN, col = rainbow(20),main='short y axis')

enter image description here Another option is to plot without axes and set them manually using axis and usr:

require(grDevices) # for colours
par(mfrow=c(1,1))
r <- barplot(tN, col = rainbow(20),main='short y axis',ann=FALSE,axes=FALSE)
usr <- par("usr")
par(usr=c(usr[1:2], 0, 20))
axis(2,at=seq(0,20,5))

Windows batch files: .bat vs .cmd?

.cmd and .bat file execution is different because in a .cmd errorlevel variable it can change on a command that is affected by command extensions. That's about it really.

How to compare Boolean?

As object?

equals

public boolean equals(Object obj)

Returns true if and only if the argument is not null and is a Boolean object that represents the same boolean value as this object.

Overrides: equals in class Object

Parameters: obj - the object to compare with.

Returns: true if the Boolean objects represent the same value; false otherwise.

boolean a = true;
boolean b = false;

System.out.println("a.equals(b):" + ((Object)a).equals( ((Object)b) ));

Output: a.equals(b):false

Are HTTPS URLs encrypted?

You can not always count on privacy of the full URL either. For instance, as is sometimes the case on enterprise networks, supplied devices like your company PC are configured with an extra "trusted" root certificate so that your browser can quietly trust a proxy (man-in-the-middle) inspection of https traffic. This means that the full URL is exposed for inspection. This is usually saved to a log.

Furthermore, your passwords are also exposed and probably logged and this is another reason to use one time passwords or to change your passwords frequently.

Finally, the request and response content is also exposed if not otherwise encrypted.

One example of the inspection setup is described by Checkpoint here. An old style "internet café" using supplied PC's may also be set up this way.

What is a typedef enum in Objective-C?

The Typedef is a Keyword in C and C++. It is used to create new names for basic data types (char, int, float, double, struct & enum).

typedef enum {
    kCircle,
    kRectangle,
    kOblateSpheroid
} ShapeType;

Here it creates enumerated data type ShapeType & we can write new names for enum type ShapeType as given below

ShapeType shape1;
ShapeType shape2;
ShapeType shape3;

Laravel Eloquent - distinct() and count() not working properly together

I came across the same problem.

If you install laravel debug bar you can see the queries and often see the problem

$ad->getcodes()->groupby('pid')->distinct()->count()

change to

$ad->getcodes()->distinct()->select('pid')->count()

You need to set the values to return as distinct. If you don't set the select fields it will return all the columns in the database and all will be unique. So set the query to distinct and only select the columns that make up your 'distinct' value you might want to add more. ->select('pid','date') to get all the unique values for a user in a day

Ruby value of a hash key?

As an addition to e.g. @Intrepidd s answer, in certain situations you want to use fetch instead of []. For fetch not to throw an exception when the key is not found, pass it a default value.

How to convert std::string to LPCSTR?

Using LPWSTR you could change contents of string where it points to. Using LPCWSTR you couldn't change contents of string where it points to.

std::string s = SOME_STRING;
// get temporary LPSTR (not really safe)
LPSTR pst = &s[0];
// get temporary LPCSTR (pretty safe)
LPCSTR pcstr = s.c_str();
// convert to std::wstring
std::wstring ws;
ws.assign( s.begin(), s.end() );
// get temporary LPWSTR (not really safe)
LPWSTR pwst = &ws[0];
// get temporary LPCWSTR (pretty safe)
LPCWSTR pcwstr = ws.c_str();

LPWSTR is just a pointer to original string. You shouldn't return it from function using the sample above. To get not temporary LPWSTR you should made a copy of original string on the heap. Check the sample below:

LPWSTR ConvertToLPWSTR( const std::string& s )
{
  LPWSTR ws = new wchar_t[s.size()+1]; // +1 for zero at the end
  copy( s.begin(), s.end(), ws );
  ws[s.size()] = 0; // zero at the end
  return ws;
}

void f()
{
  std::string s = SOME_STRING;
  LPWSTR ws = ConvertToLPWSTR( s );

  // some actions

  delete[] ws; // caller responsible for deletion
}

How to automatically update your docker containers, if base-images are updated

UPDATE: Use Dependabot - https://dependabot.com/docker/

BLUF: finding the right insertion point for monitoring changes to a container is the challenge. It would be great if DockerHub would solve this. (Repository Links have been mentioned but note when setting them up on DockerHub - "Trigger a build in this repository whenever the base image is updated on Docker Hub. Only works for non-official images.")

While trying to solve this myself I saw several recommendations for webhooks so I wanted to elaborate on a couple of solutions I have used.

  1. Use microbadger.com to track changes in a container and use it's notification webhook feature to trigger an action. I set this up with zapier.com (but you can use any customizable webhook service) to create a new issue in my github repository that uses Alpine as a base image.

    • Pros: You can review the changes reported by microbadger in github before taking action.
    • Cons: Microbadger doesn't let you track a specific tag. Looks like it only tracks 'latest'.
  2. Track the RSS feed for git commits to an upstream container. ex. https://github.com/gliderlabs/docker-alpine/commits/rootfs/library-3.8/x86_64. I used zapier.com to monitor this feed and to trigger an automatic build of my container in Travis-CI anytime something is committed. This is a little extreme but you can change the trigger to do other things like open an issue in your git repository for manual intervention.

    • Pros: Closer to an automated pipline. The Travis-CI build just checks to see if your container has issues with whatever was committed to the base image repository. It's up to you if your CI service takes any further action.
    • Cons: Tracking the commit feed isn't perfect. Lots of things get committed to the repository that don't affect the build of the base image. Doesn't take in to account any issues with frequency/number of commits and any API throttling.

Setting individual axis limits with facet_wrap and scales = "free" in ggplot2

I am not sure I understand what you want, but based on what I understood

the x scale seems to be the same, it is the y scale that is not the same, and that is because you specified scales ="free"

you can specify scales = "free_x" to only allow x to be free (in this case it is the same as pred has the same range by definition)

p <- ggplot(plot, aes(x = pred, y = value)) + geom_point(size = 2.5) + theme_bw()
p <- p + facet_wrap(~variable, scales = "free_x")

worked for me, see the picture

enter image description here

I think you were making it too difficult - I do seem to remember one time defining the limits based on a formula with min and max and if faceted I think it used only those values, but I can't find the code

How to change the font color in the textbox in C#?

Assuming WinForms, the ForeColor property allows to change all the text in the TextBox (not just what you're about to add):

How to show and update echo on same line

The rest of answers are pretty good, but just wanted to add some extra information in case someone comes here looking for a solution to replace/update a multiline echo.

So I would like to share an example with you all. The following script was tried on a CentOS system and uses "timedatectl" command which basically prints some detailed time information of your system.

I decided to use that command as its output contains multiple lines and works perfectly for the example below:

#!/bin/bash
while true; do
  COMMAND=$(timedatectl) #Save command result in a var.
  echo "$COMMAND" #Print command result, including new lines.

  sleep 3 #Keep above's output on screen during 3 seconds before clearing it

  #Following code clears previously printed lines
  LINES=$(echo "$COMMAND" | wc -l) #Calculate number of lines for the output previously printed
  for (( i=1; i <= $(($LINES)); i++ ));do #For each line printed as a result of "timedatectl"
    tput cuu1 #Move cursor up by one line
    tput el #Clear the line
  done

done

The above will print the result of "timedatectl" forever and will replace the previous echo with updated results.

I have to mention that this code is only an example, but maybe not the best solution for you depending on your needs. A similar command that would do almost the same (at least visually) is "watch -n 3 timedatectl".

But that's a different story. :)

Hope that helps!

How can I specify the schema to run an sql file against in the Postgresql command line

You can create one file that contains the set schema ... statement and then include the actual file you want to run:

Create a file run_insert.sql:

set schema 'my_schema_01';
\i myInsertFile.sql

Then call this using:

psql -d myDataBase -a -f run_insert.sql

Convert object to JSON in Android

As of Android 3.0 (API Level 11) Android has a more recent and improved JSON Parser.

http://developer.android.com/reference/android/util/JsonReader.html

Reads a JSON (RFC 4627) encoded value as a stream of tokens. This stream includes both literal values (strings, numbers, booleans, and nulls) as well as the begin and end delimiters of objects and arrays. The tokens are traversed in depth-first order, the same order that they appear in the JSON document. Within JSON objects, name/value pairs are represented by a single token.

are uniformally distributed. If you want the numbers to be normally distributed, you will have to write a function I guess.

Excel: Searching for multiple terms in a cell

In addition to the answer of @teylyn, I would like to add that you can put the string of multiple search terms inside a SINGLE cell (as opposed to using a different cell for each term and then using that range as argument to SEARCH), using named ranges and the EVALUATE function as I found from this link.

For example, I put the following terms as text in a cell, $G$1:

"PRB", "utilization", "alignment", "spectrum"

Then, I defined a named range named search_terms for that cell as described in the link above and shown in the figure below:

Named range definition

In the Refers to: field I put the following:

=EVALUATE("{" & TDoc_List!$G$1 & "}")

The above EVALUATE expression is simple used to emulate the literal string

{"PRB", "utilization", "alignment", "spectrum"}

to be used as input to the SEARCH function: using a direct reference to the SINGLE cell $G$1 (augmented with the curly braces in that case) inside SEARCH does not work, hence the use of named ranges and EVALUATE.

The trick now consists in replacing the direct reference to $G$1 by the EVALUATE-augmented named range search_terms.

The formula

It really works, and shows once more how powerful Excel really is!

It really works!

Hope this helps.

How to use bitmask?

Bit masking is "useful" to use when you want to store (and subsequently extract) different data within a single data value.

An example application I've used before is imagine you were storing colour RGB values in a 16 bit value. So something that looks like this:

RRRR RGGG GGGB BBBB

You could then use bit masking to retrieve the colour components as follows:

  const unsigned short redMask   = 0xF800;
  const unsigned short greenMask = 0x07E0;
  const unsigned short blueMask  = 0x001F;

  unsigned short lightGray = 0x7BEF;

  unsigned short redComponent   = (lightGray & redMask) >> 11;
  unsigned short greenComponent = (lightGray & greenMask) >> 5;
  unsigned short blueComponent =  (lightGray & blueMask);

How should I load files into my Java application?

getResource is fine, but using relative paths will work just as well too, as long as you can control where your working directory is (which you usually can).

Furthermore the platform dependence regarding the separator character can be gotten around using File.separator, File.separatorChar, or System.getProperty("file.separator").

Replace last occurrence of character in string

What about this?

function replaceLast(x, y, z){
  var a = x.split("");
  a[x.lastIndexOf(y)] = z;
  return a.join("");
}

replaceLast("Hello world!", "l", "x"); // Hello worxd!

How to unsubscribe to a broadcast event in angularJS. How to remove function registered via $on

Register a hook to unsubscribe your listeners when the component is removed:

$scope.$on('$destroy', function () {
   delete $rootScope.$$listeners["youreventname"];
});

What's the best/easiest GUI Library for Ruby?

I've had some very good experience with Qt, so I would definitely recommend it.

You should be ware of the licensing model though. If you're developing an open source application, you can use the open-source licensed version free of charge. If you're developing a commercial application, you'll have to pay license fees. And you can't develop in the open source one and then switch the license to commercial before you start selling.

P.S. I just had a quick look at shoes. I really like the declarative definitions of the UI elements, so that's definitely worth investigating...

How to get tf.exe (TFS command line client)?

The tf.exe command line is included in the VSTS agent package in folder externals\vstsom.

error: function returns address of local variable

The local variables have a lifetime which extends only inside the block in which it is defined. The moment the control goes outside the block in which the local variable is defined, the storage for the variable is no more allocated (not guaranteed). Therefore, using the memory address of the variable outside the lifetime area of the variable will be undefined behaviour.

On the other hand you can do the following.

 char *str_to_ret = malloc (sizeof (char) * required_size);
  .
  .
  .
 return str_to_ret;

And use the str_to_ret instead. And when returning str_to_ret, the address allocated by malloc will be returned. The memory allocated by malloc is allocated from the heap, which has a lifetime which spans the entire execution of the program. Therefore, you can access the memory location from any block and any time while the program is running.

Also note that it is a good practice that after you have done with the allocated memory block, free it to save from memory leaks. Once you free the memory, you can't access that block again.

How to fix "Root element is missing." when doing a Visual Studio (VS) Build?

Deleting the .user file is exactly what fixed the problem for me. Lightning strike near the office shut my PC down and corrupted my .user file and project wouldn't load. I opened the file in Notepad++ and the "spaces" turned out to be [NULL] characters. Deleted the .user file and the file loaded!

How to "scan" a website (or page) for info, and bring it into my program?

You'd probably want to look at the HTML to see if you can find strings that are unique and near your text, then you can use line/char-offsets to get to the data.

Could be awkward in Java, if there aren't any XML classes similar to the ones found in System.XML.Linq in C#.

TypeError: expected a character buffer object - while trying to save integer to textfile

Just try the code below:

As I see you have inserted 'r+' or this command open the file in read mode so you are not able to write into it, so you have to open file in write mode 'w' if you want to overwrite the file contents and write new data, otherwise you can append data to file by using 'a'

I hope this will help ;)

f = open('testfile.txt', 'w')# just put 'w' if you want to write to the file

x = f.readlines() #this command will read file lines

y = int(x)+1

print y
z = str(y) #making data as string to avoid buffer error
f.write(z)

f.close()

Change the On/Off text of a toggle button Android

It appears you no longer need toggleButton.setTextOff(textOff); and toggleButton.setTextOn(textOn);. The text for each toggled state will change by merely including the relevant xml characteristics. This will override the default ON/OFF text.

<ToggleButton
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:id="@+id/toggleText"
    android:textOff="ADD TEXT"
    android:textOn="CLOSE TEXT"
    android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
    android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
    android:visibility="gone"/>

Can't push to GitHub because of large file which I already deleted

I am adding to the first answer.

git filter-branch --index-filter 'git rm -r --cached --ignore-unmatch ' HEAD

There will be some merge conflict from origin/master.

Your branch and 'origin/master' have diverged, and have 114 and 109 different commits each, respectively. (use "git pull" to merge the remote branch into yours)

Please run this

git reset --hard origin/master

It will throw away all my staged and unstaged changes, forget everything on my current local branch and make it exactly the same as origin/master.

jquery clear input default value

Unless you're really worried about older browsers, you could just use the new html5 placeholder attribute like so:

<input type="text" name="email" placeholder="Email address" class="input" />

How can I find the number of elements in an array?

void numel(int array1[100][100])
{
    int count=0;
    for(int i=0;i<100;i++)
    {
        for(int j=0;j<100;j++)
        {
            if(array1[i][j]!='\0')
            {
                count++;
                //printf("\n%d-%d",array1[i][j],count);
            }
            else
                break;
        }
    }
    printf("Number of elements=%d",count);
}
int main()
{
    int r,arr[100][100]={0},c;
    printf("Enter the no. of rows: ");
    scanf("%d",&r);
    printf("\nEnter the no. of columns: ");
    scanf("%d",&c);
    printf("\nEnter the elements: ");
    for(int i=0;i<r;i++)
    {
        for(int j=0;j<c;j++)
        {
            scanf("%d",&arr[i][j]);
        }
    }
    numel(arr);
}

This shows the exact number of elements in matrix irrespective of the array size you mentioned while initilasing(IF that's what you meant)

how to git commit a whole folder?

When you “add” something in Git, you add it to the staging area. When you commit, you then commit what’s in the staging area, meaning it’s possible to commit only a sub-set of changed files at any one time.

In your case, you want to add the folder to the staging area, and then just do a normal commit:

$ git add foldername
$ git commit -m 'Helpful commit message'

How to cancel a Task in await?

Read up on Cancellation (which was introduced in .NET 4.0 and is largely unchanged since then) and the Task-Based Asynchronous Pattern, which provides guidelines on how to use CancellationToken with async methods.

To summarize, you pass a CancellationToken into each method that supports cancellation, and that method must check it periodically.

private async Task TryTask()
{
  CancellationTokenSource source = new CancellationTokenSource();
  source.CancelAfter(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1));
  Task<int> task = Task.Run(() => slowFunc(1, 2, source.Token), source.Token);

  // (A canceled task will raise an exception when awaited).
  await task;
}

private int slowFunc(int a, int b, CancellationToken cancellationToken)
{
  string someString = string.Empty;
  for (int i = 0; i < 200000; i++)
  {
    someString += "a";
    if (i % 1000 == 0)
      cancellationToken.ThrowIfCancellationRequested();
  }

  return a + b;
}

Are there any Java method ordering conventions?

My "convention": static before instance, public before private, constructor before methods, but main method at the bottom (if present).

Numpy isnan() fails on an array of floats (from pandas dataframe apply)

On top of @unutbu answer, you could coerce pandas numpy object array to native (float64) type, something along the line

import pandas as pd
pd.to_numeric(df['tester'], errors='coerce')

Specify errors='coerce' to force strings that can't be parsed to a numeric value to become NaN. Column type would be dtype: float64, and then isnan check should work

Route [login] not defined

Laravel has introduced Named Routes in Laravel 4.2.

WHAT IS NAMED ROUTES?

Named Routes allows you to give names to your router path. Hence using the name we can call the routes in required file.

HOW TO CREATE NAMED ROUTES?

Named Routes created in two different way : as and name()

METHOD 1:

Route::get('about',array('as'=>'about-as',function()
    {
            return view('about');
     }
));

METHOD 2:

 Route::get('about',function()
{
 return view('about');
})->name('about-as');

How we use in views?

<a href="{{ URL::route("about-as") }}">about-as</a>

Hence laravel 'middleware'=>'auth' has already predefined for redirect as login page if user has not yet logged in.Hence we should use as keyword

    Route::get('login',array('as'=>'login',function(){
    return view('login');
}));
