Horizontal Scroll Table in Bootstrap/CSS

@Ciwan. You're right. The table goes to full width (much too wide). Not a good solution. Better to do this:

css:

.scrollme {
    overflow-x: auto;
}

html:

<div class="scrollme">
  <table class="table table-responsive"> ...
  </table>
</div>

Edit: changing scroll-y to scroll-x

Can I use a min-height for table, tr or td?

In CSS 2.1, the effect of 'min-height' and 'max-height' on tables, inline tables, table cells, table rows, and row groups is undefined.

So try wrapping the content in a div, and give the div a min-height jsFiddle here

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" style="width:300px">
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td>
                <div style="min-height: 100px; background-color: #ccc">
                    Hello World !
                </div>
            </td>
            <td>
                <div style="min-height: 100px; background-color: #f00">
                    Good Morning !
                </div>
            </td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
</table>

How to do integer division in javascript (Getting division answer in int not float)?

var x = parseInt(455/10);

The parseInt() function parses a string and returns an integer.

The radix parameter is used to specify which numeral system to be used, for example, a radix of 16 (hexadecimal) indicates that the number in the string should be parsed from a hexadecimal number to a decimal number.

If the radix parameter is omitted, JavaScript assumes the following:

If the string begins with "0x", the radix is 16 (hexadecimal)
If the string begins with "0", the radix is 8 (octal). This feature is deprecated
If the string begins with any other value, the radix is 10 (decimal)

How do I tell if a regular file does not exist in Bash?

To test file existence, the parameter can be any one of the following:

-e: Returns true if file exists (regular file, directory, or symlink)
-f: Returns true if file exists and is a regular file
-d: Returns true if file exists and is a directory
-h: Returns true if file exists and is a symlink

All the tests below apply to regular files, directories, and symlinks:

-r: Returns true if file exists and is readable
-w: Returns true if file exists and is writable
-x: Returns true if file exists and is executable
-s: Returns true if file exists and has a size > 0

Example script:

#!/bin/bash
FILE=$1

if [ -f "$FILE" ]; then
   echo "File $FILE exists"
else
   echo "File $FILE does not exist"

Java - Search for files in a directory

you can try something like this:

import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
class FindFile
{
    public void findFile(String name,File file)
    {
        File[] list = file.listFiles();
        if(list!=null)
        for (File fil : list)
        {
            if (fil.isDirectory())
            {
                findFile(name,fil);
            }
            else if (name.equalsIgnoreCase(fil.getName()))
            {
                System.out.println(fil.getParentFile());
            }
        }
    }
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        FindFile ff = new FindFile();
        Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
        System.out.println("Enter the file to be searched.. " );
        String name = scan.next();
        System.out.println("Enter the directory where to search ");
        String directory = scan.next();
        ff.findFile(name,new File(directory));
    }
}

Here is the output:

J:\Java\misc\load>java FindFile

How can I create a progress bar in Excel VBA?

I liked the Status Bar from this page:

https://wellsr.com/vba/2017/excel/vba-application-statusbar-to-mark-progress/

I updated it so it could be used as a called procedure. No credit to me.

showStatus Current, Total, " Process Running: "

Private Sub showStatus(Current As Integer, lastrow As Integer, Topic As String)
Dim NumberOfBars As Integer
Dim pctDone As Integer

NumberOfBars = 50
'Application.StatusBar = "[" & Space(NumberOfBars) & "]"

' Display and update Status Bar
    CurrentStatus = Int((Current / lastrow) * NumberOfBars)
    pctDone = Round(CurrentStatus / NumberOfBars * 100, 0)
    Application.StatusBar = Topic & " [" & String(CurrentStatus, "|") & _
                            Space(NumberOfBars - CurrentStatus) & "]" & _
                            " " & pctDone & "% Complete"

' Clear the Status Bar when you're done

Can I open a dropdownlist using jQuery

Simple an easy way.

function down(what) {
  pos = $(what).offset();  // remember position
  $(what).css("position","absolute");
  $(what).offset(pos);   // reset position
  $(what).attr("size","10"); // open dropdown
}

function up(what) {
$(what).css("position","static");
$(what).attr("size","1");  // close dropdown
}

Now you can call your DropDown just like this

<select onfocus="down(this)" onblur="up(this)">

Works perfect for me.

Maybe better, because you have no problems with the position of the other elemts on the page.

function down(was) {
a = $(was).clone().attr('id','down_man').attr('disabled',true).insertAfter(was);
$(was).css("position","absolute").attr("size","10");
}

function up(was) {
$('#down_man').remove();
$(was).css("position","static");
$(was).attr("size","1");
}

Change the ID to a fix value mybe not smart but i hope you see the idee.

How to get `DOM Element` in Angular 2?

Angular 2.0.0 Final:

I have found that using a ViewChild setter is most reliable way to set the initial form control focus:

@ViewChild("myInput")
set myInput(_input: ElementRef | undefined) {
    if (_input !== undefined) {
        setTimeout(() => {
            this._renderer.invokeElementMethod(_input.nativeElement, "focus");
        }, 0);
    }
}

The setter is first called with an undefined value followed by a call with an initialized ElementRef.

Working example and full source here: http://plnkr.co/edit/u0sLLi?p=preview

Using TypeScript 2.0.3 Final/RTM, Angular 2.0.0 Final/RTM, and Chrome 53.0.2785.116 m (64-bit).

UPDATE for Angular 4+

Renderer has been deprecated in favor of Renderer2, but Renderer2 does not have the invokeElementMethod. You will need to access the DOM directly to set the focus as in input.nativeElement.focus().

I'm still finding that the ViewChild setter approach works best. When using AfterViewInit I sometimes get read property 'nativeElement' of undefined error.

@ViewChild("myInput")
set myInput(_input: ElementRef | undefined) {
    if (_input !== undefined) {
        setTimeout(() => { //This setTimeout call may not be necessary anymore.
            _input.nativeElement.focus();
        }, 0);
    }
}

The difference between sys.stdout.write and print?

A difference between print and sys.stdout.write to point out in Python 3, is also the value which is returned when executed in the terminal. In Python 3, sys.stdout.write returns the length of the string whereas print returns just None.

So for example running following code interactively in the terminal would print out the string followed by its length, since the length is returned and output when run interactively:

>>> sys.stdout.write(" hi ")
 hi 4

Concatenate two char* strings in a C program

strcat attempts to append the second parameter to the first. This won't work since you are assigning implicitly sized constant strings.

If all you want to do is print two strings out

printf("%s%s",str1,str2);

Would do.

You could do something like

char *str1 = calloc(sizeof("SSSS")+sizeof("KKKK")+1,sizeof *str1);
strcpy(str1,"SSSS");
strcat(str1,str2);

to create a concatenated string; however strongly consider using strncat/strncpy instead. And read the man pages carefully for the above. (oh and don't forget to free str1 at the end).

Unable to set default python version to python3 in ubuntu

At first, Make sure Python3 is installed on your computer

Go to your terminal and type:

cd ~/ to go to your home directory

If you didn't set up your .bash_profile yet, type touch .bash_profile to create your .bash_profile.

Or, type open -e .bash_profile to edit the file.

Copy and save alias python=python3 in the .bash_profile.

Close and reopen your Terminal. Then type the following command to check if Python3 is your default version now:

python --version

You should see python 3.x.y is your default version.

Cheers!

In Django, how do I check if a user is in a certain group?

You can access the groups simply through the groups attribute on User.

from django.contrib.auth.models import User, Group

group = Group(name = "Editor")
group.save() # save this new group for this example
user = User.objects.get(pk = 1) # assuming, there is one initial user
user.groups.add(group) # user is now in the "Editor" group

then user.groups.all() returns [<Group: Editor>].

Alternatively, and more directly, you can check if a a user is in a group by:

if django_user.groups.filter(name = groupname).exists():

    ...

Note that groupname can also be the actual Django Group object.

run program in Python shell

It depends on what is in test.py. The following is an appropriate structure:

# suppose this is your 'test.py' file
def main():
 """This function runs the core of your program"""
 print("running main")

if __name__ == "__main__":
 # if you call this script from the command line (the shell) it will
 # run the 'main' function
 main()

If you keep this structure, you can run it like this in the command line (assume that $ is your command-line prompt):

$ python test.py
$ # it will print "running main"

If you want to run it from the Python shell, then you simply do the following:

>>> import test
>>> test.main() # this calls the main part of your program

There is no necessity to use the subprocess module if you are already using Python. Instead, try to structure your Python files in such a way that they can be run both from the command line and the Python interpreter.

How do I create a MessageBox in C#?

MessageBox.Show also returns a DialogResult, which if you put some buttons on there, means you can have it returned what the user clicked. Most of the time I write something like

if (MessageBox.Show("Do you want to continue?", "Question", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo) == MessageBoxResult.Yes) {
     //some interesting behaviour here
}

which I guess is a bit unwieldy but it gets the job done.

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.windows.forms.dialogresult for additional enum options you can use here.

Convert Mercurial project to Git

If you want to import your existing mercurial repository into a 'GitHub' repository, you can now simply use GitHub Importer available here [Login required]. No more messing around with fast-export etc. (although its a very good tool)

You will get all your commits, branches and tags intact. One more cool thing is that you can change the author's email-id as well. Check out below screenshots:

How to set maximum height for table-cell?

 table {
    width: 50%;
    height: 50%;
    border-spacing: 0;

    border: 1px solid black;
}
#content {

    bottom:20px;
    overflow: hidden;

GoTo Next Iteration in For Loop in java

If you want to skip current iteration, use continue;.

for(int i = 0; i < 5; i++){
    if (i == 2){
        continue;
    }
 }

Need to break out of the whole loop? Use break;

for(int i = 0; i < 5; i++){
    if (i == 2){
        break;
    }
}

If you need to break out of more than one loop use break someLabel;

outerLoop:                                           // Label the loop
for(int j = 0; j < 5; j++){
     for(int i = 0; i < 5; i++){
        if (i==2){
          break outerLoop;
        }
     }
  }

*Note that in this case you are not marking a point in code to jump to, you are labeling the loop! So after the break the code will continue right after the loop!

When you need to skip one iteration in nested loops use continue someLabel;, but you can also combine them all.

outerLoop:
for(int j = 0; j < 10; j++){
     innerLoop:
     for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++){
        if (i + j == 2){
          continue innerLoop;
        }
        if (i + j == 4){
          continue outerLoop;
        }
        if (i + j == 6){
          break innerLoop;
        }
        if (i + j == 8){
          break outerLoop;
        }
     }
  }

Create a user with all privileges in Oracle

My issue was, i am unable to create a view with my "scott" user in oracle 11g edition. So here is my solution for this

Error in my case

SQL>create view v1 as select * from books where id=10;

insufficient privileges.

Solution

1)open your cmd and change your directory to where you install your oracle database. in my case i was downloaded in E drive so my location is E:\app\B_Amar\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN> after reaching in the position you have to type sqlplus sys as sysdba

E:\app\B_Amar\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>sqlplus sys as sysdba

2) Enter password: here you have to type that password that you give at the time of installation of oracle software.

3) Here in this step if you want create a new user then you can create otherwise give all the privileges to existing user.

for creating new user

SQL> create user abc identified by xyz;

here abc is user and xyz is password.

giving all the privileges to abc user

SQL> grant all privileges to abc;

 grant succeeded.

if you are seen this message then all the privileges are giving to the abc user.

4) Now exit from cmd, go to your SQL PLUS and connect to the user i.e enter your username & password.Now you can happily create view.

In My case

in cmd E:\app\B_Amar\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>sqlplus sys as sysdba

SQL> grant all privileges to SCOTT;

grant succeeded.

Now I can create views.

How to exclude file only from root folder in Git

From the documentation:

If the pattern does not contain a slash /, git treats it as a shell glob pattern and checks for a match against the pathname relative to the location of the .gitignore file (relative to the toplevel of the work tree if not from a .gitignore file).

A leading slash matches the beginning of the pathname. For example, "/*.c" matches "cat-file.c" but not "mozilla-sha1/sha1.c".

So you should add the following line to your root .gitignore:

/config.php

I solved it with window.length. But with this solution you can take current error (X-Frame or 404).

   const isLoaded = event.target.contentWindow.window.length // 0 or 1

What is the best way to iterate over multiple lists at once?

The usual way is to use zip():

for x, y in zip(a, b):
    # x is from a, y is from b

This will stop when the shorter of the two iterables a and b is exhausted. Also worth noting: itertools.izip() (Python 2 only) and itertools.izip_longest() (itertools.zip_longest() in Python 3).

Regular expression to find URLs within a string

I found this which covers most sample links, including subdirectory parts.

Regex is:

(?:(?:https?|ftp):\/\/|\b(?:[a-z\d]+\.))(?:(?:[^\s()<>]+|\((?:[^\s()<>]+|(?:\([^\s()<>]+\)))?\))+(?:\((?:[^\s()<>]+|(?:\(?:[^\s()<>]+\)))?\)|[^\s`!()\[\]{};:'".,<>?«»“”‘’]))?

sequelize findAll sort order in nodejs

If you are using MySQL, you can use order by FIELD(id, ...) approach:

Company.findAll({
    where: {id : {$in : companyIds}},
    order: sequelize.literal("FIELD(company.id,"+companyIds.join(',')+")")
})

Keep in mind, it might be slow. But should be faster, than manual sorting with JS.

How to remove commits from a pull request

This is what helped me:

  1. Create a new branch with the existing one. Let's call the existing one branch_old and new as branch_new.

  2. Reset branch_new to a stable state, when you did not have any problem commit at all. For example, to put it at your local master's level do the following:

    git reset —hard master git push —force origin

  3. cherry-pick the commits from branch_old into branch_new

  4. git push

How can I measure the actual memory usage of an application or process?

A good test of the more "real world" usage is to open the application, run vmstat -s, and check the "active memory" statistic. Close the application, wait a few seconds, and run vmstat -s again.

However much active memory was freed was in evidently in use by the application.

Difference between SelectedItem, SelectedValue and SelectedValuePath

Every control that uses Collections to store data have SelectedValue, SelectedItem property. Examples of these controls are ListBox, Dropdown, RadioButtonList, CheckBoxList.

To be more specific if you literally want to retrieve Text of Selected Item then you can write:

ListBox1.SelectedItem.Text;

Your ListBox1 can also return Text using SelectedValue property if value has set to that before. But above is more effective way to get text.

Now, the value is something that is not visible to user but it is used mostly to store in database. We don't insert Text of ListBox1, however we can insert it also, but we used to insert value of selected item. To get value we can use

ListBox1.SelectedValue

Excel compare two columns and highlight duplicates

NOTE: You may want to remove duplicate items (eg duplicate entries in the same column) before doing these steps to prevent false positives.

  1. Select both columns
  2. click Conditional Formatting
  3. click Highlight Cells Rules
  4. click Duplicate Values (the defaults should be OK)
  5. Duplicates are now highlighted in red:

Launch an app on OS X with command line

An application bundle (a .app file) is actually a bunch of directories. Instead of using open and the .app name, you can actually move in to it and start the actual binary. For instance:

$ cd /Applications/LittleSnapper.app/
$ ls
Contents
$ cd Contents/MacOS/
$ ./LittleSnapper

That is the actual binary that might accept arguments (or not, in LittleSnapper's case).

Public free web services for testing soap client

There is a bunch on here:

http://www.webservicex.net/WS/wscatlist.aspx

Just google for "Free WebService" or "Open WebService" and you'll find tons of open SOAP endpoints.

Remember, you can get a WSDL from any ASMX endpoint by adding ?WSDL to the url.

How can I loop through a List<T> and grab each item?

foreach:

foreach (var money in myMoney) {
    Console.WriteLine("Amount is {0} and type is {1}", money.amount, money.type);
}

MSDN Link

Alternatively, because it is a List<T>.. which implements an indexer method [], you can use a normal for loop as well.. although its less readble (IMO):

for (var i = 0; i < myMoney.Count; i++) {
    Console.WriteLine("Amount is {0} and type is {1}", myMoney[i].amount, myMoney[i].type);
}

How to deserialize a JObject to .NET object

From the documentation I found this

JObject o = new JObject(
   new JProperty("Name", "John Smith"),
   new JProperty("BirthDate", new DateTime(1983, 3, 20))
);

JsonSerializer serializer = new JsonSerializer();
Person p = (Person)serializer.Deserialize(new JTokenReader(o), typeof(Person));

Console.WriteLine(p.Name);

The class definition for Person should be compatible to the following:

class Person {
    public string Name { get; internal set; }
    public DateTime BirthDate { get; internal set; }
}

Edit

If you are using a recent version of JSON.net and don't need custom serialization, please see TienDo's answer above (or below if you upvote me :P ), which is more concise.

How to upload folders on GitHub

I've just gone through that process again. Always end up cloning the repo locally, upload the folder I want to have in that repo to that cloned location, commit the changes and then push it.

Note that if you're dealing with large files, you'll need to consider using something like Git LFS.

Passing multiple values for a single parameter in Reporting Services

This is one of the poor supported features in SQL Reporting Services.

What you need to do is pass all of your selected items as a single string to your stored procedure. Each element within the string will be separated by a comma.

What I then do is split the string using a function that returns the provided string as a table. See below.

ALTER FUNCTION [dbo].[fn_MVParam]
   (@RepParam nvarchar(4000), @Delim char(1)= ',')
RETURNS @Values TABLE (Param nvarchar(4000))AS
  BEGIN
  DECLARE @chrind INT
  DECLARE @Piece nvarchar(100)
  SELECT @chrind = 1
  WHILE @chrind > 0
    BEGIN
      SELECT @chrind = CHARINDEX(@Delim,@RepParam)
      IF @chrind  > 0
        SELECT @Piece = LEFT(@RepParam,@chrind - 1)
      ELSE
        SELECT @Piece = @RepParam
      INSERT  @Values(Param) VALUES(CAST(@Piece AS VARCHAR))
      SELECT @RepParam = RIGHT(@RepParam,LEN(@RepParam) - @chrind)
      IF LEN(@RepParam) = 0 BREAK
    END
  RETURN
  END

You can then reference the results in the where clause of your main query like so:

where someColumn IN(SELECT Param FROM dbo.fn_MVParam(@sParameterString,','))

I hope this you find this solution to be of use. Please feel free to pose any questions you may have.

How to output HTML from JSP <%! ... %> block?

Running Windows batch file commands asynchronously

You can use the start command to spawn background processes without launching new windows:

start /b foo.exe

The new process will not be interruptable with CTRL-C; you can kill it only with CTRL-BREAK (or by closing the window, or via Task Manager.)

How do I execute a command and get the output of the command within C++ using POSIX?

You can get the output after running a script using a pipe. We use pipes when we want the output of the child process.

int my_func() {
    char ch;
    FILE *fpipe;
    FILE *copy_fp;
    FILE *tmp;
    char *command = (char *)"/usr/bin/my_script my_arg";
    copy_fp = fopen("/tmp/output_file_path", "w");
    fpipe = (FILE *)popen(command, "r");
    if (fpipe) {
        while ((ch = fgetc(fpipe)) != EOF) {
            fputc(ch, copy_fp);
        }
    }
    else {
        if (copy_fp) {
            fprintf(copy_fp, "Sorry there was an error opening the file");
        }
    }
    pclose(fpipe);
    fclose(copy_fp);
    return 0;
}

So here is the script, which you want to run. Put it in a command variable with the arguments your script takes (nothing if no arguments). And the file where you want to capture the output of the script, put it in copy_fp.

So the popen runs your script and puts the output in fpipe and then you can just copy everything from that to your output file.

In this way you can capture the outputs of child processes.

And another process is you can directly put the > operator in the command only. So if we will put everything in a file while we run the command, you won't have to copy anything.

In that case, there isn't any need to use pipes. You can use just system, and it will run the command and put the output in that file.

int my_func(){
    char *command = (char *)"/usr/bin/my_script my_arg > /tmp/my_putput_file";
    system(command);
    printf("everything saved in my_output_file");
    return 0;
}

How do emulators work and how are they written?

Advice on emulating a real system or your own thing? I can say that emulators work by emulating the ENTIRE hardware. Maybe not down to the circuit (as moving bits around like the HW would do. Moving the byte is the end result so copying the byte is fine). Emulator are very hard to create since there are many hacks (as in unusual effects), timing issues, etc that you need to simulate. If one (input) piece is wrong the entire system can do down or at best have a bug/glitch.

How do I pass a value from a child back to the parent form?

You can also create an overload of ShowDialog in your child class that gets an out parameter that returns you the result.

    result = m_Result;
    return dialogResult;

What does map(&:name) mean in Ruby?

Another cool shorthand, unknown to many, is

array.each(&method(:foo))

which is a shorthand for

array.each { |element| foo(element) }

By calling method(:foo) we took a Method object from self that represents its foo method, and used the & to signify that it has a to_proc method that converts it into a Proc.

This is very useful when you want to do things point-free style. An example is to check if there is any string in an array that is equal to the string "foo". There is the conventional way:

["bar", "baz", "foo"].any? { |str| str == "foo" }

And there is the point-free way:

["bar", "baz", "foo"].any?(&"foo".method(:==))

The preferred way should be the most readable one.

How can I see the entire HTTP request that's being sent by my Python application?

You can use HTTP Toolkit to do exactly this.

It's especially useful if you need to do this quickly, with no code changes: you can open a terminal from HTTP Toolkit, run any Python code from there as normal, and you'll be able to see the full content of every HTTP/HTTPS request immediately.

There's a free version that can do everything you need, and it's 100% open source.

I'm the creator of HTTP Toolkit; I actually built it myself to solve the exact same problem for me a while back! I too was trying to debug a payment integration, but their SDK didn't work, I couldn't tell why, and I needed to know what was actually going on to properly fix it. It's very frustrating, but being able to see the raw traffic really helps.

How to implement "Access-Control-Allow-Origin" header in asp.net

From enable-cors.org:

Getting json body in aws Lambda via API gateway

I think there are a few things to understand when working with API Gateway integration with Lambda.

Lambda Integration vs Lambda Proxy Integration

There used to be only Lambda Integration which requires mapping templates. I suppose this is why still seeing many examples using it.

As of September 2017, you no longer have to configure mappings to access the request body.

Lambda Proxy Integration, If you enable it, API Gateway will map every request to JSON and pass it to Lambda as the event object. In the Lambda function you’ll be able to retrieve query string parameters, headers, stage variables, path parameters, request context, and the body from it.

Without enabling Lambda Proxy Integration, you’ll have to create a mapping template in the Integration Request section of API Gateway and decide how to map the HTTP request to JSON yourself. And you’d likely have to create an Integration Response mapping if you were to pass information back to the client.

Before Lambda Proxy Integration was added, users were forced to map requests and responses manually, which was a source of consternation, especially with more complex mappings.

Words need to navigate the thinking. To get the terminologies straight.

  • Lambda Proxy Integration = Pass through
    Simply pass the HTTP request through to lambda.

  • Lambda Integration = Template transformation
    Go through a transformation process using the Apache Velocity template and you need to write the template by yourself.

body is escaped string, not JSON

Using Lambda Proxy Integration, the body in the event of lambda is a string escaped with backslash, not a JSON.

"body": "{\"foo\":\"bar\"}"

If tested in a JSON formatter.

Parse error on line 1:
{\"foo\":\"bar\"}
-^
Expecting 'STRING', '}', got 'undefined'

The document below is about response but it should apply to request.

The body field, if you are returning JSON, must be converted to a string or it will cause further problems with the response. You can use JSON.stringify to handle this in Node.js functions; other runtimes will require different solutions, but the concept is the same.

For JavaScript to access it as a JSON object, need to convert it back into JSON object with json.parse in JapaScript, json.dumps in Python.

Strings are useful for transporting but you’ll want to be able to convert them back to a JSON object on the client and/or the server side.

The AWS documentation shows what to do.

if (event.body !== null && event.body !== undefined) {
    let body = JSON.parse(event.body)
    if (body.time)
        time = body.time;
}
...
var response = {
    statusCode: responseCode,
    headers: {
        "x-custom-header" : "my custom header value"
    },
    body: JSON.stringify(responseBody)
};
console.log("response: " + JSON.stringify(response))
callback(null, response);

How do I find out what is hammering my SQL Server?

You can run the SQL Profiler, and filter by CPU or Duration so that you're excluding all the "small stuff". Then it should be a lot easier to determine if you have a problem like a specific stored proc that is running much longer than it should (could be a missing index or something).

Two caveats:

  • If the problem is massive amounts of tiny transactions, then the filter I describe above would exclude them, and you'd miss this.
  • Also, if the problem is a single, massive job (like an 8-hour analysis job or a poorly designed select that has to cross-join a billion rows) then you might not see this in the profiler until it is completely done, depending on what events you're profiling (sp:completed vs sp:statementcompleted).

But normally I start with the Activity Monitor or sp_who2.

Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array in

if you really want an array instead you can use:

$getvidids->result_array()

which would return the same information as an associative array.

Python JSON serialize a Decimal object

I would like to let everyone know that I tried Michal Marczyk's answer on my web server that was running Python 2.6.5 and it worked fine. However, I upgraded to Python 2.7 and it stopped working. I tried to think of some sort of way to encode Decimal objects and this is what I came up with:

import decimal

class DecimalEncoder(json.JSONEncoder):
    def default(self, o):
        if isinstance(o, decimal.Decimal):
            return str(o)
        return super(DecimalEncoder, self).default(o)

Note that this will convert the decimal to its string representation (e.g.; "1.2300") to a. not lose significant digits and b. prevent rounding errors.

This should hopefully help anyone who is having problems with Python 2.7. I tested it and it seems to work fine. If anyone notices any bugs in my solution or comes up with a better way, please let me know.

Prevent flex items from overflowing a container

I know this is really late, but for me, I found that applying flex-basis: 0; to the element prevented it from overflowing.

Language Books/Tutorials for popular languages

I know this is a cross post from here... but, I think one of the best Java books is Java Concurrency in Practice by Brian Goetz. A rather advanced book - but, it will wear well on your concurrent code and Java development in general.

Python spacing and aligning strings

You can use expandtabs to specify the tabstop, like this:

>>> print ('Location:'+'10-10-10-10'+'\t'+ 'Revision: 1'.expandtabs(30))
>>> print ('District: Tower'+'\t'+ 'Date: May 16, 2012'.expandtabs(30))

Import Excel Spreadsheet Data to an EXISTING sql table?

You can copy-paste data from en excel-sheet to an SQL-table by doing so:

  • Select the data in Excel and press Ctrl + C
  • In SQL Server Management Studio right click the table and choose Edit Top 200 Rows
  • Scroll to the bottom and select the entire empty row by clicking on the row header
  • Paste the data by pressing Ctrl + V

Note: Often tables have a first column which is an ID-column with an auto generated/incremented ID. When you paste your data it will start inserting the leftmost selected column in Excel into the leftmost column in SSMS thus inserting data into the ID-column. To avoid that keep an empty column at the leftmost part of your selection in order to skip that column in SSMS. That will result in SSMS inserting the default data which is the auto generated ID.

Furthermore you can skip other columns by having empty columns at the same ordinal positions in the Excel sheet selection as those columns to be skipped. That will make SSMS insert the default value (or NULL where no default value is specified).

Tracking CPU and Memory usage per process

maybe you can use this. It should work for you and will report processor time for the specified process.

goto :end
) else (
echo %%~c%%
goto begin
)
)

:end

How to write oracle insert script with one field as CLOB?

Keep in mind that SQL strings can not be larger than 4000 bytes, while Pl/SQL can have strings as large as 32767 bytes. see below for an example of inserting a large string via an anonymous block which I believe will do everything you need it to do.

note I changed the varchar2(32000) to CLOB

set serveroutput ON

     id NUMBER,
     c  CLOB,
     d  VARCHAR2(4000)

    reallybigtextstring CLOB := '123';
    i                   INT;
BEGIN
    WHILE Length(reallybigtextstring) <= 60000 LOOP
        reallybigtextstring := reallybigtextstring
                               || '000000000000000000000000000000000';
    END LOOP;

    INSERT INTO testclob
                (id,
                 c,
                 d)
    VALUES     (0,
                reallybigtextstring,
                'done');

    dbms_output.Put_line('I have finished inputting your clob: '
                         || Length(reallybigtextstring));
END;

/
SELECT *

Variable not accessible when initialized outside function

It really depends on where your JavaScript code is located.

The problem is probably caused by the DOM not being loaded when the line

var systemStatus = document.getElementById("system-status");

is executed. You could try calling this in an onload event, or ideally use a DOM ready type event from a JavaScript framework.

How do you make a div tag into a link

If you have to set your anchor tag inside the div, you can also use CSS to set the anchor to fill the div via display:block.

As such:

Java rounding up to an int using Math.ceil

There are two methods by which you can round up your double value.

  1. Math.ceil
  2. Math.floor

If you want your answer 4.90625 as 4 then you should use Math.floor and if you want your answer 4.90625 as 5 then you can use Math.ceil

You can refer following code for that.

public class TestClass {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        int floorValue = (int) Math.floor((double)157 / 32);
        int ceilValue = (int) Math.ceil((double)157 / 32);
        System.out.println("Floor: "+floorValue);
        System.out.println("Ceil: "+ceilValue);

    }

}

How to check if the URL contains a given string?

You would use indexOf like this:

if(window.location.href.indexOf("franky") != -1){....}

Also notice the addition of href for the string otherwise you would do:

if(window.location.toString().indexOf("franky") != -1){....}

org.hibernate.StaleStateException: Batch update returned unexpected row count from update [0]; actual row count: 0; expected: 1

Xcode 6.1 Missing required architecture X86_64 in file

Many use the build scripts found either here: http://www.raywenderlich.com/41377/creating-a-static-library-in-ios-tutorial or here: https://gist.github.com/sponno/7228256 for their run script in their target.

I was pulling my hair out trying to add x86_64, i386, armv7s, armv7, and arm64 to the Architectures section, only to find lipo -info targetname.a never returning these architectures after a successful build.

In my case, I had to modify the target runscript, specifically step 1 from the gist link, to manually include the architectures using -arch.

Step 1. Build Device and Simulator versions xcodebuild -target ${PROJECT_NAME} ONLY_ACTIVE_ARCH=NO -configuration ${CONFIGURATION} -sdk iphoneos BUILD_DIR="${BUILD_DIR}" BUILD_ROOT="${BUILD_ROOT}" xcodebuild -target ${PROJECT_NAME} -configuration ${CONFIGURATION} -sdk iphonesimulator -arch x86_64 -arch i386 -arch armv7 -arch armv7s -arch arm64 BUILD_DIR="${BUILD_DIR}" BUILD_ROOT="${BUILD_ROOT}"

TCP: can two different sockets share a port?

Theoretically, yes. Practice, not. Most kernels (incl. linux) doesn't allow you a second bind() to an already allocated port. It weren't a really big patch to make this allowed.

Conceptionally, we should differentiate between socket and port. Sockets are bidirectional communication endpoints, i.e. "things" where we can send and receive bytes. It is a conceptional thing, there is no such field in a packet header named "socket".

Port is an identifier which is capable to identify a socket. In case of the TCP, a port is a 16 bit integer, but there are other protocols as well (for example, on unix sockets, a "port" is essentially a string).

The main problem is the following: if an incoming packet arrives, the kernel can identify its socket by its destination port number. It is a most common way, but it is not the only possibility:

  • Sockets can be identified by the destination IP of the incoming packets. This is the case, for example, if we have a server using two IPs simultanously. Then we can run, for example, different webservers on the same ports, but on the different IPs.
  • Sockets can be identified by their source port and ip as well. This is the case in many load balancing configurations.

Because you are working on an application server, it will be able to do that.

How to run a program without an operating system?

I wrote a c++ program based on Win32 to write an assembly to the boot sector of a pen-drive. When the computer is booted from the pen-drive it executes the code successfully - have a look here C++ Program to write to the boot sector of a USB Pendrive

This program is a few lines that should be compiled on a compiler with windows compilation configured - such as a visual studio compiler - any available version.

What possibilities can cause "Service Unavailable 503" error?

We recently encountered this error, root cause turned out to be an expired SSL cert on the IIS server. The Load Balancer (infront of our web tier) found the SSL expired, and instead of handling the HTTP traffic over to one of the IIS servers, started showing this error. So basically IIS unable to server requests, for a totally different reason :)

Maven: how to override the dependency added by a library

Simply specify the version in your current pom. The version specified here will override other.

Forcing a version
A version will always be honoured if it is declared in the current POM with a particular version - however, it should be noted that this will also affect other poms downstream if it is itself depended on using transitive dependencies.

AngularJS: ng-show / ng-hide not working with `{{ }}` interpolation

Since ng-show is an angular attribute i think, we don't need to put the evaluation flower brackets ({{}})..

For attributes like class we need to encapsulate the variables with evaluation flower brackets ({{}}).

How can I insert binary file data into a binary SQL field using a simple insert statement?

If you mean using a literal, you simply have to create a binary string:

insert into Files (FileId, FileData) values (1, 0x010203040506)

And you will have a record with a six byte value for the FileData field.

You indicate in the comments that you want to just specify the file name, which you can't do with SQL Server 2000 (or any other version that I am aware of).

You would need a CLR stored procedure to do this in SQL Server 2005/2008 or an extended stored procedure (but I'd avoid that at all costs unless you have to) which takes the filename and then inserts the data (or returns the byte string, but that can possibly be quite long).

In regards to the question of only being able to get data from a SP/query, I would say the answer is yes, because if you give SQL Server the ability to read files from the file system, what do you do when you aren't connected through Windows Authentication, what user is used to determine the rights? If you are running the service as an admin (God forbid) then you can have an elevation of rights which shouldn't be allowed.

SQL Server remove milliseconds from datetime

You just have to figure out the millisecond part of the date and subtract it out before comparison, like this:

select *
from table
where DATEADD(ms, -DATEPART(ms, date), date) > '2010-07-20 03:21:52'

Navigate to another page with a button in angular 2

you can change

    this.router.routeReuseStrategy.shouldReuseRoute = () => false;

at the component level in constructor like bellow

    constructor(private router: Router) {
            this.router.routeReuseStrategy.shouldReuseRoute = () => false;
}

Rotate label text in seaborn factorplot

Any seaborn plots suported by facetgrid won't work with (e.g. catplot)

g.set_xticklabels(rotation=30)

however barplot, countplot, etc. will work as they are not supported by facetgrid. Below will work for them.

g.set_xticklabels(g.get_xticklabels(), rotation=30)

Also, in case you have 2 graphs overlayed on top of each other, try set_xticklabels on graph which supports it.

WebSocket with SSL

The WebSocket connection starts its life with an HTTP or HTTPS handshake. When the page is accessed through HTTP, you can use WS or WSS (WebSocket secure: WS over TLS) . However, when your page is loaded through HTTPS, you can only use WSS - browsers don't allow to "downgrade" security.

C# equivalent to Java's charAt()?

Console.WriteLine allows the user to specify a position in a string.

See sample:

string str = "Tigger"; Console.WriteLine( str[0] ); //returns "T"; Console.WriteLine( str[2] ); //returns "g";

There you go!

How to sum all the values in a dictionary?

USE sum() TO SUM THE VALUES IN A DICTIONARY.

Call dict.values() to return the values of a dictionary dict. Use sum(values) to return the sum of the values from the previous step.

d = {'key1':1,'key2':14,'key3':47}
values = d.values()
#Return values of a dictionary
total = sum(values)
print(total)

How to echo out table rows from the db (php)

All of the snippets on this page can be dramatically reduced in size.

The mysqli result set object can be immediately fed to a foreach() (because it is "iterable") which eliminates the need to maked iterated _fetch() calls.

Imploding each row will allow your code to correctly print all columnar data in the result set without modifying the code.

$sql = "SELECT * FROM MY_TABLE";
echo '<table>';
    foreach (mysqli_query($conn, $sql) as $row) {
        echo '<tr><td>' . implode('</td><td>', $row) . '</td></tr>';
    }
echo '</table>';

If you want to encode html entities, you can map each row:

implode('</td><td>' . array_map('htmlspecialchars', $row))

If you don't want to use implode, you can simply access all row data using associative array syntax. ($row['id'])

Are 2 dimensional Lists possible in c#?

You can also..do in this way,

List<List<Object>> Parent=new  List<List<Object>>();

List<Object> Child=new List<Object>();
child.Add(2349);
child.Add("Daft Punk");
child.Add("Human");
.
.
Parent.Add(child);

if you need another item(child), create a new instance of child,

Child=new List<Object>();
child.Add(2323);
child.Add("asds");
child.Add("jshds");
.
.
Parent.Add(child);

Javascript reduce() on Object

If handled as an array is much easier

Return the total amount of fruits:

let fruits = [{ name: 'banana', id: 0, quantity: 9 }, { name: 'strawberry', id: 1, quantity: 1 }, { name: 'kiwi', id: 2, quantity: 2 }, { name: 'apple', id: 3, quantity: 4 }]

let total = fruits.reduce((sum, f) => sum + f.quantity, 0);

How to convert string to char array in C++?

Just copy the string into the array with strcpy.

Add an index (numeric ID) column to large data frame

Using alternative dplyr package:

library("dplyr") # or library("tidyverse")

df <- df %>% mutate(id = row_number())

How do I start a process from C#?

Just as Matt says, use Process.Start.

You can pass a URL, or a document. They will be started by the registered application.

Example:

Process.Start("Test.Txt");

This will start Notepad.exe with Text.Txt loaded.

How to use Session attributes in Spring-mvc

Isn't it easiest and shortest that way? I knew it and just tested it - working perfect here:

@GetMapping
public String hello(HttpSession session) {
    session.setAttribute("name","value");
    return "hello";
}

p.s. I came here searching for an answer of "How to use Session attributes in Spring-mvc", but read so many without seeing the most obvious that I had written in my code. I didn't see it, so I thought its wrong, but no it was not. So lets share that knowledge with the easiest solution for the main question.

Javascript loop through object array?

The suggested for loop is quite fine but you have to check the properties with hasOwnProperty. I'd rather suggest using Object.keys() that only returns 'own properties' of the object (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Object/keys)

Why does flexbox stretch my image rather than retaining aspect ratio?

I faced the same issue with a Foundation menu. align-self: center; didn't work for me.

My solution was to wrap the image with a <div style="display: inline-table;">...</div>

Expression must have class type

Allow an analysis.

#include <iostream>   // not #include "iostream"
using namespace std; // in this case okay, but never do that in header files

class A
{
 public:
  void f() { cout<<"f()\n"; }
};

int main()
{
 /*
 // A a; //this works
 A *a = new A(); //this doesn't
 a.f(); // "f has not been declared"
 */ // below

 // system("pause");  <-- Don't do this. It is non-portable code. I guess your
 //                       teacher told you this?
 // Better: In your IDE there is prolly an option somewhere
 // to not close the terminal/console-window.
 // If you compile on a CLI, it is not needed at all.
}

As a general advice:

0) Prefer automatic variables
  int a;
  MyClass myInstance;
  std::vector<int> myIntVector;

1) If you need data sharing on big objects down
   the call hierarchy, prefer references:

  void foo (std::vector<int> const &input) {...}
  void bar () {
       std::vector<int> something;
       ...
       foo (something);
  }

2) If you need data sharing up the call hierarchy, prefer smart-pointers
   that automatically manage deletion and reference counting.

3) If you need an array, use std::vector<> instead in most cases.
   std::vector<> is ought to be the one default container.

4) I've yet to find a good reason for blank pointers.

   -> Hard to get right exception safe

       class Foo {
           Foo () : a(new int[512]), b(new int[512]) {}
           ~Foo() {
               delete [] b;
               delete [] a;
           }
       };

       -> if the second new[] fails, Foo leaks memory, because the
          destructor is never called. Avoid this easily by using
          one of the standard containers, like std::vector, or
          smart-pointers.

As a rule of thumb: If you need to manage memory on your own, there is generally a superiour manager or alternative available already, one that follows the RAII principle.

Angular 2 Hover event

If the mouse over for all over the component is your option, you can directly is @hostListener to handle the events to perform the mouse over al below.

  import {HostListener} from '@angular/core';

  @HostListener('mouseenter') onMouseEnter() {
    this.hover = true;
    this.elementRef.nativeElement.addClass = 'edit';
  }

  @HostListener('mouseleave') onMouseLeave() {
    this.hover = false;
    this.elementRef.nativeElement.addClass = 'un-edit';
  }

Its available in @angular/core. I tested it in angular 4.x.x

$ cd <project-name>
$ mkdir .git
$ cd .git
$ git --bare init

Step-2: add the remote

$ git remote add origin /home/<linux-user-name>/Ubuntu\ One/<project-name>/.git

Step-3: push the exising git reop to the remote

$ git push -u origin --all

IIS7 folder permissions for web application

In IIS 7 (not IIS 7.5), sites access files and folders based on the account set on the application pool for the site. By default, in IIS7, this account is NETWORK SERVICE.

Specify an Identity for an Application Pool (IIS 7)

In IIS 7.5 (Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7), the application pools run under the ApplicationPoolIdentity which is created when the application pool starts. If you want to set ACLS for this account, you need to choose IIS AppPool\ApplicationPoolName instead of NT Authority\Network Service.

Node package ( Grunt ) installed but not available

Sometimes you have to npm install package_name -g for it to work.

Cannot find JavaScriptSerializer in .Net 4.0

Check if you included the .net 4 version of System.Web.Extensions - there's a 3.5 version as well, but I don't think that one works.

These steps work for me:

  1. Create a new console application
  2. Change the target to .net 4 instead of Client Profile
  3. Add a reference to System.Web.Extensions (4.0)
  4. Have access to JavaScriptSerializer in Program.cs now :-)

Android Camera : data intent returns null

The default Android camera application returns a non-null intent only when passing back a thumbnail in the returned Intent. If you pass EXTRA_OUTPUT with a URI to write to, it will return a null intent and the picture is in the URI that you passed in.

You can verify this by looking at the camera app's source code on GitHub:

I would guess that you're either passing in EXTRA_OUTPUT somehow, or the camera app on your phone works differently.

NULL values inside NOT IN clause

NOT IN returns 0 records when compared against an unknown value

Since NULL is an unknown, a NOT IN query containing a NULL or NULLs in the list of possible values will always return 0 records since there is no way to be sure that the NULL value is not the value being tested.

Angular: date filter adds timezone, how to output UTC?

I just used getLocaleString() function for my application. It should adapt the timeformat common to the locale, so no +0200 etc. Ofcourse, there will be less possibility for controlling the width of your string then.

var str = (new Date(1400167800)).toLocaleString();

CSS Font "Helvetica Neue"

Helvetica Neue is a paid font, so you shouldn't @font-face it, as you'd be freely distributing a copyrighted font. It's included in Mac systems but not in windows/linux ones, so yes, plenty of your users wont have it installed. Anyway, you can use 'Arial Narrow' as a windows substitute, which is it's windows equivalent.

How do I get a list of folders and sub folders without the files?

I don't have enough reputation to comment on any answer. In one of the comments, someone has asked how to ignore the hidden folders in the list. Below is how you can do this.

dir /b /AD-H

if you changed the port to non standard one, then you need to specify it:

$connection = mysqli_connect('localhost:3308', 'root', '', 'loginapp');

Try catch statements in C

Ok, I couldn't resist replying to this. Let me first say I don't think it's a good idea to simulate this in C as it really is a foreign concept to C.

We can use abuse the preprocessor and local stack variables to give use a limited version of C++ try/throw/catch.

Version 1 (local scope throws)

#include <stdbool.h>

#define try bool __HadError=false;
#define catch(x) ExitJmp:if(__HadError)
#define throw(x) __HadError=true;goto ExitJmp;

Version 1 is a local throw only (can't leave the function's scope). It does rely on C99's ability to declare variables in code (it should work in C89 if the try is first thing in the function).

This function just makes a local var so it knows if there was an error and uses a goto to jump to the catch block.

For example:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdbool.h>

#define try bool __HadError=false;
#define catch(x) ExitJmp:if(__HadError)
#define throw(x) __HadError=true;goto ExitJmp;

int main(void)
{
    try
    {
        printf("One\n");
        throw();
        printf("Two\n");
    }
    catch(...)
    {
        printf("Error\n");
    }
    return 0;
}

This works out to something like:

int main(void)
{
    bool HadError=false;
    {
        printf("One\n");
        HadError=true;
        goto ExitJmp;
        printf("Two\n");
    }
ExitJmp:
    if(HadError)
    {
        printf("Error\n");
    }
    return 0;
}

Version 2 (scope jumping)

#include <stdbool.h>
#include <setjmp.h>

jmp_buf *g__ActiveBuf;

#define try jmp_buf __LocalJmpBuff;jmp_buf *__OldActiveBuf=g__ActiveBuf;bool __WasThrown=false;g__ActiveBuf=&__LocalJmpBuff;if(setjmp(__LocalJmpBuff)){__WasThrown=true;}else
#define catch(x) g__ActiveBuf=__OldActiveBuf;if(__WasThrown)
#define throw(x) longjmp(*g__ActiveBuf,1);

Version 2 is a lot more complex but basically works the same way. It uses a long jump out of the current function to the try block. The try block then uses an if/else to skip the code block to the catch block which check the local variable to see if it should catch.

The example expanded again:

jmp_buf *g_ActiveBuf;

int main(void)
{
    jmp_buf LocalJmpBuff;
    jmp_buf *OldActiveBuf=g_ActiveBuf;
    bool WasThrown=false;
    g_ActiveBuf=&LocalJmpBuff;

    if(setjmp(LocalJmpBuff))
    {
        WasThrown=true;
    }
    else
    {
        printf("One\n");
        longjmp(*g_ActiveBuf,1);
        printf("Two\n");
    }
    g_ActiveBuf=OldActiveBuf;
    if(WasThrown)
    {
        printf("Error\n");
    }
    return 0;
}

This uses a global pointer so the longjmp() knows what try was last run. We are using abusing the stack so child functions can also have a try/catch block.

Using this code has a number of down sides (but is a fun mental exercise):

  • It will not free allocated memory as there are no deconstructors being called.
  • You can't have more than 1 try/catch in a scope (no nesting)
  • You can't actually throw exceptions or other data like in C++
  • Not thread safe at all
  • You are setting up other programmers for failure because they will likely not notice the hack and try using them like C++ try/catch blocks.

Proper way to make HTML nested list?

Option 2 is correct: The nested <ul> is a child of the <li> it belongs in.

If you validate, option 1 comes up as an error in html 5 -- credit: user3272456

Correct: <ul> as child of <li>

The proper way to make HTML nested list is with the nested <ul> as a child of the <li> to which it belongs. The nested list should be inside of the <li> element of the list in which it is nested.

<ul>
    <li>Parent/Item
        <ul>
            <li>Child/Subitem
            </li>
        </ul>
    </li>
</ul>

W3C Standard for Nesting Lists

A list item can contain another entire list — this is known as "nesting" a list. It is useful for things like tables of contents, such as the one at the start of this article:

  1. Chapter One
    1. Section One
    2. Section Two
    3. Section Three
  2. Chapter Two
  3. Chapter Three

The key to nesting lists is to remember that the nested list should relate to one specific list item. To reflect that in the code, the nested list is contained inside that list item. The code for the list above looks something like this:

<ol>
  <li>Chapter One
    <ol>
      <li>Section One</li>
      <li>Section Two </li>
      <li>Section Three </li>
    </ol>
  </li>
  <li>Chapter Two</li>
  <li>Chapter Three  </li>
</ol>

Note how the nested list starts after the <li> and the text of the containing list item (“Chapter One”); then ends before the </li> of the containing list item. Nested lists often form the basis for website navigation menus, as they are a good way to define the hierarchical structure of the website.

Theoretically you can nest as many lists as you like, although in practice it can become confusing to nest lists too deeply. For very large lists, you may be better off splitting the content up into several lists with headings instead, or even splitting it up into separate pages.

How to install Android SDK Build Tools on the command line?

The "android" command is deprecated.

For command-line tools, use tools/bin/sdkmanager and tools/bin/avdmanager

If you do not need Android Studio, you can download the basic Android command line tools from developer.android.com in section Command line tools only.

from CLI it should be somfing like:

curl --output sdk-tools-linux.zip https://dl.google.com/android/repository/sdk-tools-linux-4333796.zip

or

wget --output-document sdk-tools-linux.zip https://dl.google.com/android/repository/sdk-tools-linux-4333796.zip

After that just unpack the archive to the target folder

unzip sdk-tools-linux.zip

And now we can install everything you need...

./tools/bin/sdkmanager --install 'build-tools;29.0.2' 'platform-tools' 'platforms;android-29' 'tools'

You can get a complete list of packages using the command ./tools/bin/sdkmanager --list

Some packages require acceptance of the license agreement. you can accept it interactively or just pass "y" to the input stream, like this(two agreements in case):

echo -ne "y\ny" | ./tools/bin/sdkmanager --install 'system-images;android-29;default;x86_64'

And of course, for your convenience, you can export variables such as ANDROID_HOME or ANDROID_SDK_ROOT (including doing it in ~/.profile or ~/.bash_profile) or patch the PATH variable - all this is at your discretion.

Script example:

mkdir /opt/android-sdk
cd /opt/android-sdk
curl --output sdk-tools-linux.zip https://dl.google.com/android/repository/sdk-tools-linux-4333796.zip
unzip sdk-tools-linux.zip
echo -ne "y" | ./tools/bin/sdkmanager --install 'build-tools;29.0.2' 'platform-tools' 'platforms;android-29' 'tools'

Requirements: curl(or wget) and unzip

Troubleshooting:

if you see Warning: Could not create settings, you need to have the tools directory inside the cmdline-tools directory inside the ANDROID_HOME (create it if needed with this exact name) see Android Command line tools sdkmanager always shows: Warning: Could not create settings

How can I tell Moq to return a Task?

Similar Issue

I have an interface that looked roughly like:

Task DoSomething(int arg);

Symptoms

My unit test failed when my service under test awaited the call to DoSomething.

Fix

Unlike the accepted answer, you are unable to call .ReturnsAsync() on your Setup() of this method in this scenario, because the method returns the non-generic Task, rather than Task<T>.

However, you are still able to use .Returns(Task.FromResult(default(object))) on the setup, allowing the test to pass.

Angular2: custom pipe could not be found

see this is working for me.

ActStatus.pipe.ts First this is my pipe

import {Pipe,PipeTransform} from "@angular/core";

@Pipe({
  name:'actStatusPipe'
})
export class ActStatusPipe implements PipeTransform{
  transform(status:any):any{
    switch (status) {
      case 1:
        return "UN_PUBLISH";
      case 2:
        return "PUBLISH";
      default:
        return status
    }
  }
}

main-pipe.module.ts in pipe module, i need to declare my pipe/s and export it.

import { NgModule } from '@angular/core';
import {CommonModule} from "@angular/common";

import {ActStatusPipe} from "./ActStatusPipe.pipe"; // <---

@NgModule({
  declarations:[ActStatusPipe], // <---
  imports:[CommonModule],
  exports:[ActStatusPipe] // <---
})

export class MainPipe{}

app.module.ts user this pipe module in any module.

@NgModule({
  declarations: [...],
  imports: [..., MainPipe], // <---
  providers: [...],
  bootstrap: [AppComponent]
})

you can directly user pipe in this module. but if you feel that your pipe is used with in more than one component i suggest you to follow my approach.

  1. create pipe .
  2. create separate module and declare and export one or more pipe.
  3. user that pipe module.

How to use pipe totally depends on your project complexity and requirement. you might have just one pipe which used only once in the whole project. in that case you can directly use it without creating a pipe/s module (module approach).

Returning IEnumerable<T> vs. IQueryable<T>

The top answer is good but it doesn't mention expression trees which explain "how" the two interfaces differ. Basically, there are two identical sets of LINQ extensions. Where(), Sum(), Count(), FirstOrDefault(), etc all have two versions: one that accepts functions and one that accepts expressions.

  • The IEnumerable version signature is: Where(Func<Customer, bool> predicate)

  • The IQueryable version signature is: Where(Expression<Func<Customer, bool>> predicate)

You've probably been using both of those without realizing it because both are called using identical syntax:

e.g. Where(x => x.City == "<City>") works on both IEnumerable and IQueryable

  • When using Where() on an IEnumerable collection, the compiler passes a compiled function to Where()

  • When using Where() on an IQueryable collection, the compiler passes an expression tree to Where(). An expression tree is like the reflection system but for code. The compiler converts your code into a data structure that describes what your code does in a format that's easily digestible.

Why bother with this expression tree thing? I just want Where() to filter my data. The main reason is that both the EF and Linq2SQL ORMs can convert expression trees directly into SQL where your code will execute much faster.

Oh, that sounds like a free performance boost, should I use AsQueryable() all over the place in that case? No, IQueryable is only useful if the underlying data provider can do something with it. Converting something like a regular List to IQueryable will not give you any benefit.

How can I use Html.Action?

You should look at the documentation for the Action method; it's explained well. For your case, this should work:

@Html.Action("GetOptions", new { pk="00", rk="00" });

The controllerName parameter will default to the controller from which Html.Action is being invoked. So if you're trying to invoke an action from another controller, you'll have to specify the controller name like so:

@Html.Action("GetOptions", "ControllerName", new { pk="00", rk="00" });

Twitter Bootstrap 3.0 how do I "badge badge-important" now

Well, this is a terribly late answer but I think I'll still put my two cents in... I could have posted this as a comment because this answer doesn't essentially add any new solution but it does add value to the post as yet another alternative. But in a comment I wouldn't be able to give all the details because of character limit.

NOTE: This needs an edit to bootstrap CSS file - move style definitions for .badge above .label-default. Couldn't find any practical side effects due to the change in my limited testing.

While broc.seib's solution is probably the best way to achieve the requirement of OP with minimal addition to CSS, it is possible to achieve the same effect without any extra CSS at all just like Jens A. Koch's solution or by using .label-xxx contextual classes because they are easy to remember compared to progress-bar-xxx classes. I don't think that .alert-xxx classes give the same effect.

All you have to do is just use .badge and .label-xxx classes together (but in this order). Don't forget to make the changes mentioned in NOTE above.

<a href="#">Inbox <span class="badge label-warning">42</span></a> looks like this:

Badge with warning bg

IMPORTANT: This solution may break your styles if you decide to upgrade and forget to make the changes in your new local CSS file. My solution for this challenge was to copy all .label-xxx styles in my custom CSS file and load it after all other CSS files. This approach also helps when I use a CDN for loading BS3.

**P.S: ** Both the top rated answers have their pros and cons. It's just the way you prefer to do your CSS because there is no "only correct way" to do it.

Can't find @Nullable inside javax.annotation.*

JSR-305 is a "Java Specification Request" to extend the specification. @Nullable etc. were part of it; however it appears to be "dormant" (or frozen) ever since (See this SO question). So to use these annotations, you have to add the library yourself.

FindBugs was renamed to SpotBugs and is being developed under that name.

For maven this is the current annotation-only dependency (other integrations here):

<dependency>
  <groupId>com.github.spotbugs</groupId>
  <artifactId>spotbugs-annotations</artifactId>
  <version>4.2.0</version>
</dependency>

If you wish to use the full plugin, refer to the documentation of SpotBugs.

WCF ServiceHost access rights

Another solution is to use the address

http://localhost:8732/Design_Time_Addresses/YOUR_ADDRESS .

.NET Framework (3.5) automatically register this address (http://*:8732/Design_Time_Addresses) for debugging scope. This is useful when you need to host services inside visual studio for debugging or testing. Don't use this on production...

how to convert a string to a bool

Ignoring the specific needs of this question, and while its never a good idea to cast a string to a bool, one way would be to use the ToBoolean() method on the Convert class:

bool val = Convert.ToBoolean("true");

or an extension method to do whatever weird mapping you're doing:

public static class StringExtensions
{
    public static bool ToBoolean(this string value)
    {
        switch (value.ToLower())
        {
            case  "true":
                return true;
            case "t":
                return true;
            case "1":
                return true;
            case "0":
                return false;
            case "false":
                return false;
            case "f":
                return false;
            default:
                throw new InvalidCastException("You can't cast that value to a bool!");
        }
    }
}

How do you add a timed delay to a C++ program?

I found that "_sleep(milliseconds);" (without the quotes) works well for Win32 if you include the chrono library

E.g:

#include <chrono>

    cout << "text" << endl;
    _sleep(10000); // pauses for 10 seconds
}

Make sure you include the underscore before sleep.

More than 1 row in <Input type="textarea" />

The "input" tag doesn't support rows and cols attributes. This is why the best alternative is to use a textarea with rows and cols attributes. You can still add a "name" attribute and also there is a useful "wrap" attribute which can serve pretty well in various situations.

Should you choose the MONEY or DECIMAL(x,y) datatypes in SQL Server?

We've just come across a very similar issue and I'm now very much a +1 for never using Money except in top level presentation. We have multiple tables (effectively a sales voucher and sales invoice) each of which contains one or more Money fields for historical reasons, and we need to perform a pro-rata calculation to work out how much of the total invoice Tax is relevant to each line on the sales voucher. Our calculation is

vat proportion = total invoice vat x (voucher line value / total invoice value)

This results in a real world money / money calculation which causes scale errors on the division part, which then multiplies up into an incorrect vat proportion. When these values are subsequently added, we end up with a sum of the vat proportions which do not add up to the total invoice value. Had either of the values in the brackets been a decimal (I'm about to cast one of them as such) the vat proportion would be correct.

When the brackets weren't there originally this used to work, I guess because of the larger values involved, it was effectively simulating a higher scale. We added the brackets because it was doing the multiplication first, which was in some rare cases blowing the precision available for the calculation, but this has now caused this much more common error.

Capturing Groups From a Grep RegEx

If you're using Bash, you don't even have to use grep:

files="*.jpg"
regex="[0-9]+_([a-z]+)_[0-9a-z]*"
for f in $files # unquoted in order to allow the glob to expand
do
    if [[ $f =~ $regex ]]
    then
        name="${BASH_REMATCH[1]}"
        echo "${name}.jpg"    # concatenate strings
        name="${name}.jpg" # same thing stored in a variable
    else
        echo "$f doesn't match" >&2 # this could get noisy if there are a lot of non-matching files
    fi
done

It's better to put the regex in a variable. Some patterns won't work if included literally.

This uses =~ which is Bash's regex match operator. The results of the match are saved to an array called $BASH_REMATCH. The first capture group is stored in index 1, the second (if any) in index 2, etc. Index zero is the full match.

You should be aware that without anchors, this regex (and the one using grep) will match any of the following examples and more, which may not be what you're looking for:

123_abc_d4e5
xyz123_abc_d4e5
123_abc_d4e5.xyz
xyz123_abc_d4e5.xyz

To eliminate the second and fourth examples, make your regex like this:

^[0-9]+_([a-z]+)_[0-9a-z]*

which says the string must start with one or more digits. The carat represents the beginning of the string. If you add a dollar sign at the end of the regex, like this:

^[0-9]+_([a-z]+)_[0-9a-z]*$

then the third example will also be eliminated since the dot is not among the characters in the regex and the dollar sign represents the end of the string. Note that the fourth example fails this match as well.

If you have GNU grep (around 2.5 or later, I think, when the \K operator was added):

name=$(echo "$f" | grep -Po '(?i)[0-9]+_\K[a-z]+(?=_[0-9a-z]*)').jpg

The \K operator (variable-length look-behind) causes the preceding pattern to match, but doesn't include the match in the result. The fixed-length equivalent is (?<=) - the pattern would be included before the closing parenthesis. You must use \K if quantifiers may match strings of different lengths (e.g. +, *, {2,4}).

The (?=) operator matches fixed or variable-length patterns and is called "look-ahead". It also does not include the matched string in the result.

In order to make the match case-insensitive, the (?i) operator is used. It affects the patterns that follow it so its position is significant.

The regex might need to be adjusted depending on whether there are other characters in the filename. You'll note that in this case, I show an example of concatenating a string at the same time that the substring is captured.

You could implement a showfile function which takes in parameters of the data returned from the WEBApi, and a filename for the file you are trying to download. What I did was create a separate browser service identifies the user's browser and then handles the rendering of the file based on the browser. For instance if the target browser is chrome on an ipad, you have to use javascripts FileReader object.

FileService.showFile = function (data, fileName) {
    var blob = new Blob([data], { type: 'application/pdf' });

    if (BrowserService.isIE()) {
        window.navigator.msSaveOrOpenBlob(blob, fileName);
    }
    else if (BrowserService.isChromeIos()) {
        loadFileBlobFileReader(window, blob, fileName);
    }
    else if (BrowserService.isIOS() || BrowserService.isAndroid()) {
        var url = URL.createObjectURL(blob);
        window.location.href = url;
        window.document.title = fileName;
    } else {
        var url = URL.createObjectURL(blob);
        loadReportBrowser(url, window,fileName);
    }
}

function loadFileBrowser(url, window, fileName) {
    var iframe = window.document.createElement('iframe');
    iframe.src = url
    iframe.width = '100%';
    iframe.height = '100%';
    iframe.style.border = 'none';
    window.document.title = fileName;
    window.document.body.appendChild(iframe)
    window.document.body.style.margin = 0;
}

function loadFileBlobFileReader(window, blob,fileName) {
    var reader = new FileReader();
    reader.onload = function (e) {
        var bdata = btoa(reader.result);
        var datauri = 'data:application/pdf;base64,' + bdata;
        window.location.href = datauri;
        window.document.title = fileName;
    }
    reader.readAsBinaryString(blob);
}

WCF change endpoint address at runtime

We store our URLs in a database and load them at runtime.

public class ServiceClientFactory<TChannel> : ClientBase<TChannel> where TChannel : class
{
    public TChannel Create(string url)
    {
        this.Endpoint.Address = new EndpointAddress(new Uri(url));
        return this.Channel;
    }
}

Implementation

var client = new ServiceClientFactory<yourServiceChannelInterface>().Create(newUrl);

phpMyAdmin + CentOS 6.0 - Forbidden

I tried all answers provided here: editing phpMyAdmin.conf, changing selinux context for phpmyadmin folder, disabling selinux... but I still got a 'Forbidden' from the web server.

I finally found what I was missing in Edouard Thiel post here :

$ yum install php

then restart httpd :

$ service httpd restart => for centos 6 hots

$ systemctl restart httpd => for centos 7 hosts

What has me amazed is why php is not installed as dependency for phpmyadmin in the first place.

SQL Server: use CASE with LIKE

SELECT Lname, Cods, CASE WHEN Lname LIKE '% HN%' THEN SUBSTRING(Lname,
CHARINDEX(' ', Lname) - 50, 50) WHEN Lname LIKE 'HN%' THEN Lname ELSE
Lname END AS LnameTrue FROM dbo.____Fname_Lname

mysql: get record count between two date-time

May be with:

SELECT count(*) FROM `table`
where
    created_at>='2011-03-17 06:42:10' and created_at<='2011-03-17 07:42:50';

or use between:

SELECT count(*) FROM `table`
where
    created_at between '2011-03-17 06:42:10' and '2011-03-17 07:42:50';

You can change the datetime as per your need. May be use curdate() or now() to get the desired dates.

How to update a single pod without touching other dependencies

just saying:

pod install - for installing new pods,

pod update - for updating existing pods,

pod update podName - for updating only specific pod without touching other pods,

pod update podName versionNum - for updating / DOWNGRADING specific pod without touching other pods

IIS: Where can I find the IIS logs?

A much easier way to do this is using PowerShell, like so:

Get-Website yoursite | % { Join-Path ($_.logFile.Directory -replace '%SystemDrive%', $env:SystemDrive) "W3SVC$($_.id)" }

or simply

Get-Website yoursite | % { $_.logFile.Directory, $_.id }

if you just need the info for yourself and don't mind parsing the result in your brain :).

For bonus points, append | ii to the first command to open in Explorer, or | gci to list the contents of the folder.

What is the best way to parse html in C#?

The Html Agility Pack has been mentioned before - if you are going for speed, you might also want to check out the Majestic-12 HTML parser. Its handling is rather clunky, but it delivers a really fast parsing experience.

Cannot read property 'map' of undefined

First of all, set more safe initial data:

getInitialState : function() {
    return {data: {comments:[]}};
},

And ensure your ajax data.

It should work if you follow above two instructions like Demo.

Updated: you can just wrap the .map block with conditional statement.

if (this.props.data) {
  var commentNodes = this.props.data.map(function (comment){
      return (
        <div>
          <h1>{comment.author}</h1>
        </div>
      );
  });
}

For loop example in MySQL

While loop syntax example in MySQL:

delimiter //

CREATE procedure yourdatabase.while_example()
wholeblock:BEGIN
  declare str VARCHAR(255) default '';
  declare x INT default 0;
  SET x = 1;

  WHILE x <= 5 DO
    SET str = CONCAT(str,x,',');
    SET x = x + 1;
  END WHILE;

  select str;
END//

Which prints:

mysql> call while_example();
+------------+
| str        |
+------------+
| 1,2,3,4,5, |
+------------+

REPEAT loop syntax example in MySQL:

delimiter //

CREATE procedure yourdb.repeat_loop_example()
wholeblock:BEGIN
  DECLARE x INT;
  DECLARE str VARCHAR(255);
  SET x = 5;
  SET str = '';

  REPEAT
    SET str = CONCAT(str,x,',');
    SET x = x - 1;
    UNTIL x <= 0
  END REPEAT;

  SELECT str;
END//

Which prints:

mysql> call repeat_loop_example();
+------------+
| str        |
+------------+
| 5,4,3,2,1, |
+------------+

FOR loop syntax example in MySQL:

delimiter //

CREATE procedure yourdatabase.for_loop_example()
wholeblock:BEGIN
  DECLARE x INT;
  DECLARE str VARCHAR(255);
  SET x = -5;
  SET str = '';

  loop_label: LOOP

    END IF;
    SET str = CONCAT(str,x,',');
    SET x = x + 1;
    ITERATE loop_label;
  END LOOP;

  SELECT str;

If I catch you pushing this kind of MySQL for-loop constructs into production, I'm going to shoot you with the foam missile launcher. You can use a pipe wrench to bang in a nail, but doing so makes you look silly.

Jenkins restrict view of jobs per user

I use combination of several plugins - for the basic assignment of roles and permission I use Role Strategy Plugin.

When I need to split some role depending on parameters (e.g. everybody with job-runner is able to run jobs, but user only user UUU is allowed to run the deployment job to deploy on machine MMM), I use Python Plugin and define a python script as first build step and end with sys.exit(-1) when the job is forbidden to be run with the given combination of parameters.

Build User Vars Plugin provides me the information about the user executing the job as environment variables.

E.g:

import os
import sys

print os.environ["BUILD_USER"], "deploying to", os.environ["target_host"]

# only some users are allowed to deploy to servers "MMM"
mmm_users = ["UUU"]

if os.environ["target_host"] != "MMM" or os.environ["BUILD_USER"] in mmm_users:
    print "access granted"
else:
    print "access denied"
    sys.exit(-1)

how does multiplication differ for NumPy Matrix vs Array classes?

A pertinent quote from PEP 465 - A dedicated infix operator for matrix multiplication , as mentioned by @petr-viktorin, clarifies the problem the OP was getting at:

[...] numpy provides two different types with different __mul__ methods. For numpy.ndarray objects, * performs elementwise multiplication, and matrix multiplication must use a function call (numpy.dot). For numpy.matrix objects, * performs matrix multiplication, and elementwise multiplication requires function syntax. Writing code using numpy.ndarray works fine. Writing code using numpy.matrix also works fine. But trouble begins as soon as we try to integrate these two pieces of code together. Code that expects an ndarray and gets a matrix, or vice-versa, may crash or return incorrect results

The introduction of the @ infix operator should help to unify and simplify python matrix code.

Is there StartsWith or Contains in t sql with variables?

It seems like what you want is http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms186323.aspx.

In your example it would be (starts with):

set @isExpress = (CharIndex('Express Edition', @edition) = 1)

Or contains

set @isExpress = (CharIndex('Express Edition', @edition) >= 1)

cannot make a static reference to the non-static field

Just write:

private static double balance = 0;

and you could also write those like that:

private static int id = 0;
private static double annualInterestRate = 0;
public static java.util.Date dateCreated;

Docker compose port mapping

If you want to bind to the redis port from your nodejs container you will have to expose that port in the redis container:

version: '2'
services:
  nodejs:
    build:
      context: .
      dockerfile: DockerFile
    ports:
      - "4000:4000"
    links:
      - redis

  redis:
    build:
      context: .
      dockerfile: Dockerfile-redis
    expose:
      - "6379"

The expose tag will let you expose ports without publishing them to the host machine, but they will be exposed to the containers networks.

https://docs.docker.com/compose/compose-file/#expose

The ports tag will be mapping the host port with the container port HOST:CONTAINER

https://docs.docker.com/compose/compose-file/#ports

How can I extract the folder path from file path in Python?

The built-in submodule os.path has a function for that very task.

import os

Parse string to DateTime in C#

Try the following code

Month = Date = DateTime.Now.Month.ToString();
Year = DateTime.Now.Year.ToString();
ViewBag.Today = System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture.DateTimeFormat.GetMonthName(Int32.Parse(Month)) + Year;

How to check if activity is in foreground or in visible background?

UPD: updated to state Lifecycle.State.RESUMED. Thanks to @htafoya for that.

In 2019 with help of new support library 28+ or AndroidX you can simply use:

val isActivityInForeground = activity.lifecycle.currentState.isAtLeast(Lifecycle.State.RESUMED)

You can read more in the documenation to understand what happened under the hood.

Is it possible to use raw SQL within a Spring Repository

It is also possible to use Spring Data JDBC repository, which is a community project built on top of Spring Data Commons to access to databases with raw SQL, without using JPA.

It is less powerful than Spring Data JPA, but if you want lightweight solution for simple projects without using a an ORM like Hibernate, that a solution worth to try.

Implements vs extends: When to use? What's the difference?

extends is for extending a class.

implements is for implementing an interface

The difference between an interface and a regular class is that in an interface you can not implement any of the declared methods. Only the class that "implements" the interface can implement the methods. The C++ equivalent of an interface would be an abstract class (not EXACTLY the same but pretty much).

Also java doesn't support multiple inheritance for classes. This is solved by using multiple interfaces.

 public interface ExampleInterface {
    public void doAction();
    public String doThis(int number);
 }

 public class sub implements ExampleInterface {
     public void doAction() {
       //specify what must happen
     }

     public String doThis(int number) {
       //specfiy what must happen
     }
 }

now extending a class

 public class SuperClass {
    public int getNb() {
         //specify what must happen
        return 1;
     }

     public int getNb2() {
         //specify what must happen
        return 2;
     }
 }

 public class SubClass extends SuperClass {
      //you can override the implementation
      @Override
      public int getNb2() {
        return 3;
     }
 }

in this case

  Subclass s = new SubClass();
  s.getNb(); //returns 1
  s.getNb2(); //returns 3

  SuperClass sup = new SuperClass();
  sup.getNb(); //returns 1
  sup.getNb2(); //returns 2

Also, note that an @Override tag is not required for implementing an interface, as there is nothing in the original interface methods to be overridden

I suggest you do some more research on dynamic binding, polymorphism and in general inheritance in Object-oriented programming

how to get curl to output only http response body (json) and no other headers etc

You are specifying the -i option:

-i, --include

(HTTP) Include the HTTP-header in the output. The HTTP-header includes things like server-name, date of the document, HTTP-version and more...

Simply remove that option from your command line:

response=$(curl -sb -H "Accept: application/json" "http://host:8080/some/resource")

Error "The input device is not a TTY"

I know this is not directly answering the question at hand but for anyone that comes upon this question who is using WSL running Docker for windows and cmder or conemu.

The trick is not to use Docker which is installed on windows at /mnt/c/Program Files/Docker/Docker/resources/bin/docker.exe but rather to install the ubuntu/linux Docker. It's worth pointing out that you can't run Docker itself from within WSL but you can connect to Docker for windows from the linux Docker client.

Install Docker on Linux

sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common
curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -
sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install docker-ce

Connect to Docker for windows on the port 2375 which needs to be enabled from the settings in docker for windows.

docker -H localhost:2375 run -it -v /mnt/c/code:/var/app -w "/var/app" centos:7

Or set the docker_host variable which will allow you to omit the -H switch

export DOCKER_HOST=tcp://localhost:2375

You should now be able to connect interactively with a tty terminal session.

Add column with number of days between dates in DataFrame pandas

A list comprehension is your best bet for the most Pythonic (and fastest) way to do this:

[int(i.days) for i in (df.B - df.A)]
  1. i will return the timedelta(e.g. '-58 days')
  2. i.days will return this value as a long integer value(e.g. -58L)
  3. int(i.days) will give you the -58 you seek.

If your columns aren't in datetime format. The shorter syntax would be: df.A = pd.to_datetime(df.A)
