Implement Validation for WPF TextBoxes

When it comes to Muhammad Mehdi's answer, it is better to do:

private void salary_texbox_PreviewTextInput(object sender, TextCompositionEventArgs e)
{
     Regex regex = new Regex ( "[^0-9]+" );
     if(regex.IsMatch(e.Text))
     {
         MessageBox.Show("Error");
     }
}

Because when comparing with the TextCompositionEventArgs it gets also the last character, while with the textbox.Text it does not. With textbox, the error will show after next inserted character.

WPF Binding to parent DataContext

Because of things like this, as a general rule of thumb, I try to avoid as much XAML "trickery" as possible and keep the XAML as dumb and simple as possible and do the rest in the ViewModel (or attached properties or IValueConverters etc. if really necessary).

If possible I would give the ViewModel of the current DataContext a reference (i.e. property) to the relevant parent ViewModel

public class ThisViewModel : ViewModelBase
{
    TypeOfAncestorViewModel Parent { get; set; }
}

and bind against that directly instead.

<TextBox Text="{Binding Parent}" />

TypeScript: casting HTMLElement

We could type our variable with an explicit return type:

const script: HTMLScriptElement = document.getElementsByName(id).item(0);

Or assert as (needed with TSX):

const script = document.getElementsByName(id).item(0) as HTMLScriptElement;

Or in simpler cases assert with angle-bracket syntax.

A type assertion is like a type cast in other languages, but performs no special checking or restructuring of data. It has no runtime impact, and is used purely by the compiler.

Serialize Property as Xml Attribute in Element

Kind of, use the XmlAttribute instead of XmlElement, but it won't look like what you want. It will look like the following:

<SomeModel SomeStringElementName="testData">
</SomeModel>

The only way I can think of to achieve what you want (natively) would be to have properties pointing to objects named SomeStringElementName and SomeInfoElementName where the class contained a single getter named "value". You could take this one step further and use DataContractSerializer so that the wrapper classes can be private. XmlSerializer won't read private properties.

// TODO: make the class generic so that an int or string can be used.
[Serializable]
public class SerializationClass
{
    public SerializationClass(string value)
    {
        this.Value = value;
    }

    [XmlAttribute("value")]
    public string Value { get; }
}

[Serializable]
public class SomeModel
{
    [XmlIgnore]
    public string SomeString { get; set; }

    [XmlIgnore]
    public int SomeInfo { get; set; }

    [XmlElement]
    public SerializationClass SomeStringElementName
    {
        get { return new SerializationClass(this.SomeString); }
    }
}

WSDL/SOAP Test With soapui

Another possibility is that you need to add ?wsdl at the end of your service url for SoapUI. That one got me as I'm used to WCFClient which didn't need it.

Access parent DataContext from DataTemplate

You can use RelativeSource to find the parent element, like this -

Binding="{Binding Path=DataContext.CurveSpeedMustBeSpecified,
RelativeSource={RelativeSource AncestorType={x:Type local:YourParentElementType}}}"

See this SO question for more details about RelativeSource.

WPF binding to Listbox selectedItem

First off, you need to implement INotifyPropertyChanged interface in your view model and raise the PropertyChanged event in the setter of the Rule property. Otherwise no control that binds to the SelectedRule property will "know" when it has been changed.

Then, your XAML

<TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=SelectedRule.Name}" />

is perfectly valid if this TextBlock is outside the ListBox's ItemTemplate and has the same DataContext as the ListBox.

{"<user xmlns=''> was not expected.} Deserializing Twitter XML

Either decorate your root entity with the XmlRoot attribute which will be used at compile time.

[XmlRoot(Namespace = "www.contoso.com", ElementName = "MyGroupName", DataType = "string", IsNullable=true)]

Or specify the root attribute when de serializing at runtime.

XmlRootAttribute xRoot = new XmlRootAttribute();
xRoot.ElementName = "user";
// xRoot.Namespace = "http://www.cpandl.com";
xRoot.IsNullable = true;

XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(User),xRoot);

Set focus on TextBox in WPF from view model

First off i would like to thank Avanka for helping me solve my focus problem. There is however a bug in the code he posted, namely in the line: if (e.OldValue == null)

The problem I had was that if you first click in your view and focus the control, e.oldValue is no longer null. Then when you set the variable to focus the control for the first time, this results in the lostfocus and gotfocus handlers not being set. My solution to this was as follows:

public static class ExtensionFocus
    {
    static ExtensionFocus()
        {
        BoundElements = new List<string>();
        }

    public static readonly DependencyProperty IsFocusedProperty =
        DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached("IsFocused", typeof(bool?),
        typeof(ExtensionFocus), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(false, IsFocusedChanged));

    private static List<string> BoundElements;

    public static bool? GetIsFocused(DependencyObject element)
        {
        if (element == null)
            {
            throw new ArgumentNullException("ExtensionFocus GetIsFocused called with null element");
            }
        return (bool?)element.GetValue(IsFocusedProperty);
        }

    public static void SetIsFocused(DependencyObject element, bool? value)
        {
        if (element == null)
            {
            throw new ArgumentNullException("ExtensionFocus SetIsFocused called with null element");
            }
        element.SetValue(IsFocusedProperty, value);
        }

    private static void IsFocusedChanged(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
        {
        var fe = (FrameworkElement)d;

        // OLD LINE:
        // if (e.OldValue == null)
        // TWO NEW LINES:
        if (BoundElements.Contains(fe.Name) == false)
            {
            BoundElements.Add(fe.Name);
            fe.LostFocus += OnLostFocus;
            fe.GotFocus += OnGotFocus;
            }

        if (!fe.IsVisible)
            {
            fe.IsVisibleChanged += new DependencyPropertyChangedEventHandler(fe_IsVisibleChanged);
            }

        if ((bool)e.NewValue)
            {
            fe.Focus();
            }
        }

    private static void fe_IsVisibleChanged(object sender, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
        {
        var fe = (FrameworkElement)sender;

        if (fe.IsVisible && (bool)((FrameworkElement)sender).GetValue(IsFocusedProperty))
            {
            fe.IsVisibleChanged -= fe_IsVisibleChanged;
            fe.Focus();
            }
        }

    private static void OnLostFocus(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
        {
        if (sender != null && sender is Control s)
            {
            s.SetValue(IsFocusedProperty, false);
            }
        }

    private static void OnGotFocus(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
        {
        if (sender != null && sender is Control s)
            {
            s.SetValue(IsFocusedProperty, true);
            }
        }
    }

Passing two command parameters using a WPF binding

If your values are static, you can use x:Array:

<Button Command="{Binding MyCommand}">10
  <Button.CommandParameter>
    <x:Array Type="system:Object">
       <system:String>Y</system:String>
       <system:Double>10</system:Double>
    </x:Array>
  </Button.CommandParameter>
</Button>

Serialize Class containing Dictionary member

the Dictionary class implements ISerializable. The definition of Class Dictionary given below.

[DebuggerTypeProxy(typeof(Mscorlib_DictionaryDebugView<,>))]
[DebuggerDisplay("Count = {Count}")]
[Serializable]
[System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComVisible(false)]
public class Dictionary<TKey,TValue>: IDictionary<TKey,TValue>, IDictionary, IReadOnlyDictionary<TKey, TValue>, ISerializable, IDeserializationCallback

I don't think that is the problem. refer to the below link, which says that if you are having any other data type which is not serializable then Dictionary will not be serialized. http://forums.asp.net/t/1734187.aspx?Is+Dictionary+serializable+

Javascript to check whether a checkbox is being checked or unchecked

The value attribute of a checkbox is what you set by:

<input type='checkbox' name='test' value='1'>

So when someone checks that box, the server receives a variable named test with a value of 1 - what you want to check for is not the value of it (which will never change, whether it is checked or not) but the checked status of the checkbox.

So, if you replace this code:

if (arrChecks[i].value == "on")
{
    arrChecks[i].checked = 1;
} else {
    arrChecks[i].checked = 0;
}

With this:

arrChecks[i].checked = !arrChecks[i].checked;

It should work. You should use true and false instead of 0 and 1 for this.

Server did not recognize the value of HTTP Header SOAPAction

I had the same problem after changing the namespace from "tempuri" in my Web Service.

You have to update your Service Reference in the project that is consuming the above service, so it can get the latest SOAP definitions.

Or at least that worked for me. :)

What's the best way to build a string of delimited items in Java?

You're making this a little more complicated than it has to be. Let's start with the end of your example:

String parameterString = "";
if ( condition ) parameterString = appendWithDelimiter( parameterString, "elementName", "," );
if ( anotherCondition ) parameterString = appendWithDelimiter( parameterString, "anotherElementName", "," );

With the small change of using a StringBuilder instead of a String, this becomes:

StringBuilder parameterString = new StringBuilder();
if (condition) parameterString.append("elementName").append(",");
if (anotherCondition) parameterString.append("anotherElementName").append(",");
...

When you're done (I assume you have to check a few other conditions as well), just make sure you remove the tailing comma with a command like this:

if (parameterString.length() > 0)
    parameterString.deleteCharAt(parameterString.length() - 1);

And finally, get the string you want with

parameterString.toString();

You could also replace the "," in the second call to append with a generic delimiter string that can be set to anything. If you have a list of things you know you need to append (non-conditionally), you could put this code inside a method that takes a list of strings.

jQuery: read text file from file system

This is working fine in firefox at least.

The problem I was facing is, that I got an XML object in stead of a plain text string. Reading an xml-file from my local drive works fine (same directory as the html), so I do not see why reading a text file would be an issue.

I figured that I need to tell jquery to pass a string in stead of an XML object. Which is what I did, and it finally worked:

function readFiles()
{
    $.get('file.txt', function(data) {
        alert(data);
    }, "text");
}

Note the addition of '"text"' at the end. This tells jquery to pass the contents of 'file.txt' as a string in stead of an XML object. The alert box will show the contents of the text file. If you remove the '"text"' at the end, the alert box will say 'XML object'.

Remove Blank option from Select Option with AngularJS

If you just want to remove the blank space use ng-show and you are done! No need to initialize value in JS.

<select ng-model="SelectedStatus" ng-options="x.caption for x in statusList">
    <option value="" ng-show="false"></option>
</select>`

Set Session variable using javascript in PHP

One simple way to set session variable is by sending request to another PHP file. Here no need to use Jquery or any other library.

Consider I have index.php file where I am creating SESSION variable (say $_SESSION['v']=0) if SESSION is not created otherwise I will load other file.

Code is like this:

session_start();
if(!isset($_SESSION['v']))
{
    $_SESSION['v']=0;
}
else
{
    header("Location:connect.php");
}

Now in count.html I want to set this session variable to 1.

Content in count.html

function doneHandler(result) {
   window.location="setSession.php";
}

In count.html javascript part, send a request to another PHP file (say setSession.php) where i can have access to session variable.

So in setSession.php will write

session_start();
$_SESSION['v']=1;
header('Location:index.php');

How do you join on the same table, twice, in mysql?

you'd use another join, something along these lines:

SELECT toD.dom_url AS ToURL,
    fromD.dom_url AS FromUrl,
    rvw.*

FROM reviews AS rvw

LEFT JOIN domain AS toD
    ON toD.Dom_ID = rvw.rev_dom_for

LEFT JOIN domain AS fromD
    ON fromD.Dom_ID = rvw.rev_dom_from

EDIT:

All you're doing is joining in the table multiple times. Look at the query in the post: it selects the values from the Reviews tables (aliased as rvw), that table provides you 2 references to the Domain table (a FOR and a FROM).

At this point it's a simple matter to left join the Domain table to the Reviews table. Once (aliased as toD) for the FOR, and a second time (aliased as fromD) for the FROM.

Then in the SELECT list, you will select the DOM_URL fields from both LEFT JOINS of the DOMAIN table, referencing them by the table alias for each joined in reference to the Domains table, and alias them as the ToURL and FromUrl.

For more info about aliasing in SQL, read here.

What does the @Valid annotation indicate in Spring?

Another handy aspect of @Valid not mentioned above is that (ie: using Postman to test an endpoint) @Valid will format the output of an incorrect REST call into formatted JSON instead of a blob of barely readable text. This is very useful if you are creating a commercially consumable API for your users.

Convert a date format in PHP

Use this function to convert from any format to any format

function reformatDate($date, $from_format = 'd/m/Y', $to_format = 'Y-m-d') {
    $date_aux = date_create_from_format($from_format, $date);
    return date_format($date_aux,$to_format);
}

Best way to overlay an ESRI shapefile on google maps?

Free "Export to KML" script for ArcGIS 9

Here is a list of available methods that someone found.

Also, it seems to me that the most efficient representation of a polygon layer is by using Google Maps API's polyline encoding, which significantly compresses lat-lng data. But getting into that format takes work: use ArcMap to export Shape as lat/lng coordinates, then convert into polylines using Google Maps API.

Where can I find the API KEY for Firebase Cloud Messaging?

How do I use FileSystemObject in VBA?

Within Excel you need to set a reference to the VB script run-time library. The relevant file is usually located at \Windows\System32\scrrun.dll

  • To reference this file, load the Visual Basic Editor (ALT+F11)
  • Select Tools > References from the drop-down menu
  • A listbox of available references will be displayed
  • Tick the check-box next to 'Microsoft Scripting Runtime'
  • The full name and path of the scrrun.dll file will be displayed below the listbox
  • Click on the OK button.

This can also be done directly in the code if access to the VBA object model has been enabled.

Access can be enabled by ticking the check-box Trust access to the VBA project object model found at File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings

VBA Macro settings

To add a reference:

Sub Add_Reference()

    Application.VBE.ActiveVBProject.References.AddFromFile "C:\Windows\System32\scrrun.dll"
'Add a reference

End Sub

To remove a reference:

Sub Remove_Reference()

Dim oReference As Object

    Set oReference = Application.VBE.ActiveVBProject.References.Item("Scripting")

    Application.VBE.ActiveVBProject.References.Remove oReference
'Remove a reference

End Sub

Python JSON encoding

JSON uses square brackets for lists ( [ "one", "two", "three" ] ) and curly brackets for key/value dictionaries (also called objects in JavaScript, {"one":1, "two":"b"}).

The dump is quite correct, you get a list of three elements, each one is a list of two strings.

if you wanted a dictionary, maybe something like this:

x = simplejson.dumps(dict(data))
>>> {"pear": "fish", "apple": "cat", "banana": "dog"}

your expected string ('{{"apple":{"cat"},{"banana":"dog"}}') isn't valid JSON. A

CSV parsing in Java - working example..?

I agree with @Brian Clapper. I have used SuperCSV as a parser though I've had mixed results. I enjoy the versatility of it, but there are some situations within my own csv files for which I have not been able to reconcile "yet". I have faith in this product and would recommend it overall--I'm just missing something simple, no doubt, that I'm doing in my own implementation.

SuperCSV can parse the columns into various formats, do edits on the columns, etc. It's worth taking a look-see. It has examples as well, and easy to follow.

The one/only limitation I'm having is catching an 'empty' column and parsing it into an Integer or maybe a blank, etc. I'm getting null-pointer errors, but javadocs suggest each cellProcessor checks for nulls first. So, I'm blaming myself first, for now. :-)

Anyway, take a look at SuperCSV. http://supercsv.sourceforge.net/

Why doesn't Java support unsigned ints?

I think Java is fine as it is, adding unsigned would complicate it without much gain. Even with the simplified integer model, most Java programmers don't know how the basic numeric types behave - just read the book Java Puzzlers to see what misconceptions you might hold.

As for practical advice:

  • If your values are somewhat arbitrary size and don't fit into int, use long. If they don't fit into long use BigInteger.

  • Use the smaller types only for arrays when you need to save space.

  • If you need exactly 64/32/16/8 bits, use long/int/short/byte and stop worrying about the sign bit, except for division, comparison, right shift, and casting.

See also this answer about "porting a random number generator from C to Java".

check if array is empty (vba excel)

@jeminar has the best solution above.

I cleaned it up a bit though.

I recommend adding this to a FunctionsArray module

  • isInitialised=false is not needed because Booleans are false when created
  • On Error GoTo 0 wrap and indent code inside error blocks similar to with blocks for visibility. these methods should be avoided as much as possible but ... VBA ...
Function isInitialised(ByRef a() As Variant) As Boolean
    On Error Resume Next
    isInitialised = IsNumeric(UBound(a))
    On Error GoTo 0
End Function

Update cordova plugins in one command

Here's a bash script I use, works on OSX 10.11.3.

#!/bin/bash

PLUGINS=$(cordova plugin list | awk '{print $1}')

for PLUGIN in $PLUGINS; do
    cordova plugin rm $PLUGIN --save && cordova plugin add $PLUGIN --save
done

This may help if there are conflicts, per shan's comment. The difference is the addition of the --force flag when removing.

#!/bin/bash

PLUGINS=$(cordova plugin list | awk '{print $1}')

for PLUGIN in $PLUGINS; do
    cordova plugin rm $PLUGIN --force --save && cordova plugin add $PLUGIN --save
done

How to get key names from JSON using jq

Here's another way of getting a Bash array with the example JSON given by @anubhava in his answer:

arr=($(jq --raw-output 'keys_unsorted | @sh' file.json))

echo ${arr[1]}    # 'Build-Id'
echo ${arr[2]}    # 'Build-Jdk'

It will try to list and provide real time output of 20 process where we have good chance of missing other prcesses which consumes more resource ....

How to compare the contents of two string objects in PowerShell

You can do it in two different ways.

Option 1: The -eq operator

>$a = "is"
>$b = "fission"
>$c = "is"
>$a -eq $c
True
>$a -eq $b
False

Option 2: The .Equals() method of the string object. Because strings in PowerShell are .Net System.String objects, any method of that object can be called directly.

>$a.equals($b)
False
>$a.equals($c)
True
>$a|get-member -membertype method

List of System.String methods follows.

Quick fix that works for me. Navigate to the root directory of your folder from command line (cmd). then once you are on your root directory, type:

Then, press enter. Note the ".", don't forget it. Now try to debug and see if you get the same error.

It could be that you don't have privileges to some of the files. From an administrator account, try "sudo rsync -av " Alternately, enable the root account and sign in as root. That should allow you to completely hose your system and brute force your rsync! ;-) I'm not sure if the above mentioned --extended-attributes will help, but I threw it in too, just for good measure.

Can anonymous class implement interface?

No, anonymous types cannot implement an interface. From the C# programming guide:

Anonymous types are class types that consist of one or more public read-only properties. No other kinds of class members such as methods or events are allowed. An anonymous type cannot be cast to any interface or type except for object.

How to make a class JSON serializable

This function uses recursion to iterate over every part of the dictionary and then calls the repr() methods of classes that are not build-in types.

def sterilize(obj):
    object_type = type(obj)
    if isinstance(obj, dict):
        return {k: sterilize(v) for k, v in obj.items()}
    elif object_type in (list, tuple):
        return [sterilize(v) for v in obj]
    elif object_type in (str, int, bool, float):
        return obj
    else:
        return obj.__repr__()

Pandas Replace NaN with blank/empty string

If you are converting DataFrame to JSON, NaN will give error so best solution is in this use case is to replace NaN with None.
Here is how:

df1 = df.where((pd.notnull(df)), None)

Better way to remove specific characters from a Perl string

You could use the tr instead:

       $p =~ tr/fo//d;

will delete every f and every o from $p. In your case it should be:

       $p =~ tr/\$#@~!&*()[];.,:?^ `\\\///d

See Perl's tr documentation.

tr/SEARCHLIST/REPLACEMENTLIST/cdsr

Transliterates all occurrences of the characters found (or not found if the /c modifier is specified) in the search list with the positionally corresponding character in the replacement list, possibly deleting some, depending on the modifiers specified.

[…]

If the /d modifier is specified, any characters specified by SEARCHLIST not found in REPLACEMENTLIST are deleted.

Wait until an HTML5 video loads

call function on load:

<video onload="doWhatYouNeedTo()" src="demo.mp4" id="video">

get video duration

var video = document.getElementById("video");
var duration = video.duration;

Returning value from Thread

You can use a local final variable array. The variable needs to be of non-primitive type, so you can use an array. You also need to synchronize the two threads, for example using a CountDownLatch:

public void test()
{
    final CountDownLatch latch = new CountDownLatch(1);
    final int[] value = new int[1];
    Thread uiThread = new HandlerThread("UIHandler"){
        @Override
        public void run(){
            value[0] = 2;
            latch.countDown(); // Release await() in the test thread.
        }
    };
    uiThread.start();
    latch.await(); // Wait for countDown() in the UI thread. Or could uiThread.join();
    // value[0] holds 2 at this point.
}

You can also use an Executor and a Callable like this:

public void test() throws InterruptedException, ExecutionException
{
    ExecutorService executor = Executors.newSingleThreadExecutor();
    Callable<Integer> callable = new Callable<Integer>() {
        @Override
        public Integer call() {
            return 2;
        }
    };
    Future<Integer> future = executor.submit(callable);
    // future.get() returns 2 or raises an exception if the thread dies, so safer
    executor.shutdown();
}

How to change the size of the radio button using CSS?

Old question but now there is a simple solution, compatible with most browsers, which is to use CSS3. I tested in IE, Firefox and Chrome and it works.

input[type="radio"] {
    -ms-transform: scale(1.5); /* IE 9 */
    -webkit-transform: scale(1.5); /* Chrome, Safari, Opera */
    transform: scale(1.5);
}

Change the value 1.5, in this case an increment of 50% in size, according to your needs. If the ratio is very high, it can blur the radio button. The next image shows a ratio of 1.5.

How can I limit the visible options in an HTML <select> dropdown?

Raj_89 solution is the closest to being valid option altough as mentioned by Kevin Swarts in comment it is going to break IE, which for large number of corporate client is an issue (and telling your client that you won't code for IE "because reasons" is unlikely to make your boss happy ;) ).

So I played around with it and here is the problem: the 'onmousedown' event is throwing a fit in IE, so what we want to do, is to prevent default when user clicks the dropdown for the first time. It is important this is only time we do this: if we prevent defult on the next click, when user makes his pick, the onchange event won't fire.

This way we get nice dropdown, no flicker, no breaking down IE - just works... well at least in IE10 and up, and latest relases of all the other major browsers.

<p>Which is the most annoing browser of them all:</p>
<select id="sel" size = "1">
    <option></option>
    <option>IE 9</option>
    <option>IE 10</option>
    <option>Edge</option>
    <option>Firefox</option>
    <option>Chrome</option>
    <option>Opera</option>
</select>

Here is the fiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/88cxzhom/27/

Few more things to notice: 1) The absolute positioning and setting z-index is helpful to avoid moving other elements when the options are displayed. 2) Use 'currentTarget' property - this will be the select element across all browsers. While 'target' will be select in IE, the rest will actually allow you to work with option.

Hope this helps someone.

What are best practices for multi-language database design?

What we do, is to create two tables for each multilingual object.

E.g. the first table contains only language-neutral data (primary key, etc.) and the second table contains one record per language, containing the localized data plus the ISO code of the language.

In some cases we add a DefaultLanguage field, so that we can fall-back to that language if no localized data is available for a specified language.

Example:

Table "Product":
----------------
ID                 : int
<any other language-neutral fields>

Table "ProductTranslations"
---------------------------
ID : int (foreign key referencing the Product)
Language           : varchar  (e.g. "en-US", "de-CH")
IsDefault          : bit
ProductDescription : nvarchar
<any other localized data>

With this approach, you can handle as many languages as needed (without having to add additional fields for each new language).

Update (2014-12-14): please have a look at this answer, for some additional information about the implementation used to load multilingual data into an application.

TortoiseGit-git did not exit cleanly (exit code 1)

I have faced this situation and in my case, I was using two git id's simultaneously. so what it does it will update the credentials in the credential Manager

Control Panel\User Accounts\Credential Manager

as shown here

inside Credential Manager, you will find the git hub credentials inside the Generic credentials there you have to update your git credentials.

Named placeholders in string formatting

Another example of Apache Common StringSubstitutor for simple named placeholder.

String template = "Welcome to {theWorld}. My name is {myName}.";

Map<String, String> values = new HashMap<>();
values.put("theWorld", "Stackoverflow");
values.put("myName", "Thanos");

String message = StringSubstitutor.replace(template, values, "{", "}");

System.out.println(message);

// Welcome to Stackoverflow. My name is Thanos.

Developing for Android in Eclipse: R.java not regenerating

In my case, after endlessly shutting down the IDE, cleaning, trying to build, etc., the issue was a "untitled folder" inside my "res" folder that I probably added there by mistake.

I wish those kind of errors would be output by Eclipse, the way the Ant script did:

[null] invalid resource directory name: /Users/gubatron/workspace.android/my-project/res/untitled folder

Find duplicate records in MongoDB

db.getCollection('orders').aggregate([
    {$group: {
            _id: {name: "$name"},
            uniqueIds: {$addToSet: "$_id"},
            count: {$sum: 1}
        }
    },
    {$match: {
        count: {"$gt": 1}
        }
    }
])

First Group Query the group according to the fields.

Then we check the unique Id and count it, If count is greater then 1 then the field is duplicate in the entire collection so that thing is to be handle by $match query.

Sun JSTL taglib declaration fails with "Can not find the tag library descriptor"

I just want to share my experience. I have same problem about jstl using maven. I resolved it by adding two dependency.

    <dependency>

        <version>2.5</version>

        <artifactId>jstl</artifactId>
        <version>1.2</version>
    </dependency>

Extract public/private key from PKCS12 file for later use in SSH-PK-Authentication

As far as I know PKCS#12 is just a certificate/public/private key store. If you extracted a public key from PKCS#12 file, OpenSSH should be able to use it as long as it was extracted in PEM format. You probably already know that you also need a corresponding private key (also in PEM) in order to use it for ssh-public-key authentication.

how to fetch data from database in Hibernate

Let me quote this:

Hibernate created a new language named Hibernate Query Language (HQL), the syntax is quite similar to database SQL language. The main difference between is HQL uses class name instead of table name, and property names instead of column name.

As far as I can see you are using the table name.

So it should be like this:

Query query = session.createQuery("from Employee");

Regular Expressions: Search in list

Full Example (Python 3):
For Python 2.x look into Note below

import re

mylist = ["dog", "cat", "wildcat", "thundercat", "cow", "hooo"]
r = re.compile(".*cat")
newlist = list(filter(r.match, mylist)) # Read Note
print(newlist)

Prints:

['cat', 'wildcat', 'thundercat']

Note:

For Python 2.x developers, filter returns a list already. In Python 3.x filter was changed to return an iterator so it has to be converted to list (in order to see it printed out nicely).

Check OS version in Swift?

I made helper functions that were transferred from the below link into swift:

How can we programmatically detect which iOS version is device running on?

func SYSTEM_VERSION_EQUAL_TO(version: String) -> Bool {
    return UIDevice.currentDevice().systemVersion.compare(version,
        options: NSStringCompareOptions.NumericSearch) == NSComparisonResult.OrderedSame
}

func SYSTEM_VERSION_GREATER_THAN(version: String) -> Bool {
    return UIDevice.currentDevice().systemVersion.compare(version,
        options: NSStringCompareOptions.NumericSearch) == NSComparisonResult.OrderedDescending
}

func SYSTEM_VERSION_GREATER_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO(version: String) -> Bool {
    return UIDevice.currentDevice().systemVersion.compare(version,
        options: NSStringCompareOptions.NumericSearch) != NSComparisonResult.OrderedAscending
}

func SYSTEM_VERSION_LESS_THAN(version: String) -> Bool {
    return UIDevice.currentDevice().systemVersion.compare(version,
        options: NSStringCompareOptions.NumericSearch) == NSComparisonResult.OrderedAscending
}

func SYSTEM_VERSION_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO(version: String) -> Bool {
    return UIDevice.currentDevice().systemVersion.compare(version,
        options: NSStringCompareOptions.NumericSearch) != NSComparisonResult.OrderedDescending
}

It can be used like so:

SYSTEM_VERSION_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO("7.0")

Swift 4.2

func SYSTEM_VERSION_EQUAL_TO(version: String) -> Bool {

Python Requests requests.exceptions.SSLError: [Errno 8] _ssl.c:504: EOF occurred in violation of protocol

I was having similar issue and I think if we simply ignore the ssl verification will work like charm as it worked for me. So connecting to server with https scheme but directing them not to verify the certificate.

Using requests. Just mention verify=False instead of None

    requests.post(url, data=payload, headers=headers, verify=False)

Hoping this will work for those who needs :).

How to Set Focus on JTextField?

In my case nothing above worked untill I called requestFocus() AFTER my constructor has returned.

MyPanel panel = new MyPanel(...);
frame.add(panel);
panel.initFocus();

MyPanel.initFocus() would have:

myTextField.requestFocus();

And it works.

How to Copy Contents of One Canvas to Another Canvas Locally

@robert-hurst has a cleaner approach.

However, this solution may also be used, in places when you actually want to have a copy of Data Url after copying. For example, when you are building a website that uses lots of image/canvas operations.

    // select canvas elements
    var sourceCanvas = document.getElementById("some-unique-id");
    var destCanvas = document.getElementsByClassName("some-class-selector")[0];

    //copy canvas by DataUrl
    var sourceImageData = sourceCanvas.toDataURL("image/png");
    var destCanvasContext = destCanvas.getContext('2d');

    var destinationImage = new Image;
    destinationImage.onload = function(){
      destCanvasContext.drawImage(destinationImage,0,0);
    };
    destinationImage.src = sourceImageData;

What tool to use to draw file tree diagram

As promised, here is my Cairo version. I scripted it with Lua, using lfs to walk the directories. I love these little challenges, as they allow me to explore APIs I wanted to dig for quite some time...
lfs and LuaCairo are both cross-platform, so it should work on other systems (tested on French WinXP Pro SP3).

I made a first version drawing file names as I walked the tree. Advantage: no memory overhead. Inconvenience: I have to specify the image size beforehand, so listings are likely to be cut off.

So I made this version, first walking the directory tree, storing it in a Lua table. Then, knowing the number of files, creating the canvas to fit (at least vertically) and drawing the names.
You can easily switch between PNG rendering and SVG one. Problem with the latter: Cairo generates it at low level, drawing the letters instead of using SVG's text capability. Well, at least, it guarantees accurate rending even on systems without the font. But the files are bigger... Not really a problem if you compress it after, to have a .svgz file.
Or it shouldn't be too hard to generate the SVG directly, I used Lua to generate SVG in the past.

How to do Select All(*) in linq to sql

u want select all data from database then u can try this:-

dbclassDataContext dc= new dbclassDataContext()
List<tableName> ObjectName= dc.tableName.ToList();

otherwise You can try this:-

var Registration = from reg in dcdc.GetTable<registration>() select reg;

and method Syntex :-

 var Registration = dc.registration.Select(reg => reg);

When do I have to use interfaces instead of abstract classes?

Considering Java:

Interfaces:

  • Are a fundamental OOP abstraction.
  • Will often (but not always) yield clearer code than abstract classes.
  • Can be implemented by multiple concrete classes to suit different situations.
  • Can directly implement scenarios calling for multiple inheritance.
  • Can be more easily mocked out for testing purposes.
  • Are useful for JDK proxies (see java.lang.reflect.Proxy).

These are just the beginning of a very long list of pros/cons for interfaces vs. abstract classes.

How to mock void methods with Mockito

Adding another answer to the bunch (no pun intended)...

You do need to call the doAnswer method if you can't\don't want to use spy's. However, you don't necessarily need to roll your own Answer. There are several default implementations. Notably, CallsRealMethods.

In practice, it looks something like this:

doAnswer(new CallsRealMethods()).when(mock)
        .voidMethod(any(SomeParamClass.class));

Or:

doAnswer(Answers.CALLS_REAL_METHODS.get()).when(mock)
        .voidMethod(any(SomeParamClass.class));

What is @RenderSection in asp.net MVC

Here the defination of Rendersection from MSDN

In layout pages, renders the content of a named section.MSDN

In _layout.cs page put

@RenderSection("Bottom",false)

Here render the content of bootom section and specifies false boolean property to specify whether the section is required or not.

@section Bottom{
       This message form bottom.
}

That meaning if you want to bottom section in all pages, then you must use false as the second parameter at Rendersection method.

Loop structure inside gnuplot?

I wanted to use wildcards to plot multiple files often placed in different directories, while working from any directory. The solution i found was to create the following function in ~/.bashrc

plo () {
local arg="w l"
local str="set term wxt size 900,500 title 'wild plotting'
set format y '%g'
set logs
plot"
while [ $# -gt 0 ]
        do str="$str '$1' $arg,"
        shift
done
echo "$str" | gnuplot -persist
}

and use it e.g. like plo *.dat ../../dir2/*.out, to plot all .dat files in the current directory and all .out files in a directory that happens to be a level up and is called dir2.

Regular Expression For Duplicate Words

I believe this regex handles more situations:

/(\b\S+\b)\s+\b\1\b/

A good selection of test strings can be found here: http://callumacrae.github.com/regex-tuesday/challenge1.html

Check if object is a jQuery object

You can use the instanceof operator:

if (obj instanceof jQuery){
    console.log('object is jQuery');
}

Explanation: the jQuery function (aka $) is implemented as a constructor function. Constructor functions are to be called with the new prefix.

When you call $(foo), internally jQuery translates this to new jQuery(foo)1. JavaScript proceeds to initialize this inside the constructor function to point to a new instance of jQuery, setting it's properties to those found on jQuery.prototype (aka jQuery.fn). Thus, you get a new object where instanceof jQuery is true.

1It's actually new jQuery.prototype.init(foo): the constructor logic has been offloaded to another constructor function called init, but the concept is the same.

plotting different colors in matplotlib

Joe Kington's excellent answer is already 4 years old, Matplotlib has incrementally changed (in particular, the introduction of the cycler module) and the new major release, Matplotlib 2.0.x, has introduced stylistic differences that are important from the point of view of the colors used by default.

The color of individual lines

The color of individual lines (as well as the color of different plot elements, e.g., markers in scatter plots) is controlled by the color keyword argument,

plt.plot(x, y, color=my_color)

my_color is either

The color cycle

By default, different lines are plotted using different colors, that are defined by default and are used in a cyclic manner (hence the name color cycle).

The color cycle is a property of the axes object, and in older releases was simply a sequence of valid color names (by default a string of one character color names, "bgrcmyk") and you could set it as in

my_ax.set_color_cycle(['kbkykrkg'])

(as noted in a comment this API has been deprecated, more on this later).

In Matplotlib 2.0 the default color cycle is ["#1f77b4", "#ff7f0e", "#2ca02c", "#d62728", "#9467bd", "#8c564b", "#e377c2", "#7f7f7f", "#bcbd22", "#17becf"], the Vega category10 palette.

enter image description here

(the image is a screenshot from https://vega.github.io/vega/docs/schemes/)

The cycler module: composable cycles

The following code shows that the color cycle notion has been deprecated

In [1]: from matplotlib import rc_params

In [2]: rc_params()['axes.color_cycle']
/home/boffi/lib/miniconda3/lib/python3.6/site-packages/matplotlib/__init__.py:938: UserWarning: axes.color_cycle is deprecated and replaced with axes.prop_cycle; please use the latter.
  warnings.warn(self.msg_depr % (key, alt_key))
Out[2]:
['#1f77b4', '#ff7f0e', '#2ca02c', '#d62728', '#9467bd',
 '#8c564b', '#e377c2', '#7f7f7f', '#bcbd22', '#17becf']

Now the relevant property is the 'axes.prop_cycle'

In [3]: rc_params()['axes.prop_cycle']
Out[3]: cycler('color', ['#1f77b4', '#ff7f0e', '#2ca02c', '#d62728', '#9467bd', '#8c564b', '#e377c2', '#7f7f7f', '#bcbd22', '#17becf'])

Previously, the color_cycle was a generic sequence of valid color denominations, now by default it is a cycler object containing a label ('color') and a sequence of valid color denominations. The step forward with respect to the previous interface is that it is possible to cycle not only on the color of lines but also on other line attributes, e.g.,

In [5]: from cycler import cycler

In [6]: new_prop_cycle = cycler('color', ['k', 'r']) * cycler('linewidth', [1., 1.5, 2.])

In [7]: for kwargs in new_prop_cycle: print(kwargs)
{'color': 'k', 'linewidth': 1.0}
{'color': 'k', 'linewidth': 1.5}
{'color': 'k', 'linewidth': 2.0}
{'color': 'r', 'linewidth': 1.0}
{'color': 'r', 'linewidth': 1.5}
{'color': 'r', 'linewidth': 2.0}

As you have seen, the cycler objects are composable and when you iterate on a composed cycler what you get, at each iteration, is a dictionary of keyword arguments for plt.plot.

You can use the new defaults on a per axes object ratio,

my_ax.set_prop_cycle(new_prop_cycle)

or you can install temporarily the new default

plt.rc('axes', prop_cycle=new_prop_cycle)

or change altogether the default editing your .matplotlibrc file.

Last possibility, use a context manager

with plt.rc_context({'axes.prop_cycle': new_prop_cycle}):
    ...

to have the new cycler used in a group of different plots, reverting to defaults at the end of the context.

The doc string of the cycler() function is useful, but the (not so much) gory details about the cycler module and the cycler() function, as well as examples, can be found in the fine docs.

generate model using user:references vs user_id:integer

how does rails know that user_id is a foreign key referencing user?

Rails itself does not know that user_id is a foreign key referencing user. In the first command rails generate model Micropost user_id:integer it only adds a column user_id however rails does not know the use of the col. You need to manually put the line in the Micropost model

class Micropost < ActiveRecord::Base
  belongs_to :user
end

class User < ActiveRecord::Base
  has_many :microposts
end

the keywords belongs_to and has_many determine the relationship between these models and declare user_id as a foreign key to User model.

The later command rails generate model Micropost user:references adds the line belongs_to :user in the Micropost model and hereby declares as a foreign key.

FYI
Declaring the foreign keys using the former method only lets the Rails know about the relationship the models/tables have. The database is unknown about the relationship. Therefore when you generate the EER Diagrams using software like MySql Workbench you find that there is no relationship threads drawn between the models. Like in the following pic enter image description here

However, if you use the later method you find that you migration file looks like:

def change
    create_table :microposts do |t|
      t.references :user, index: true

      t.timestamps null: false
    end
    add_foreign_key :microposts, :users

Now the foreign key is set at the database level. and you can generate proper EER diagrams. enter image description here

How do I specify "close existing connections" in sql script

Go to management studio and do everything you describe, only instead of clicking OK, click on Script. It will show the code it will run which you can then incorporate in your scripts.

In this case, you want:

How to pass optional parameters while omitting some other optional parameters?

you can use optional variable by ? or if you have multiple optional variable by ..., example:

function details(name: string, country="CA", address?: string, ...hobbies: string) {
    // ...
}

In the above:

  • name is required
  • country is required and has a default value
  • address is optional
  • hobbies is an array of optional params

How to allow download of .json file with ASP.NET

If you want to manually add support to your site, you can just add the following to your web.config in the system.webServer section:

<staticContent>
    <mimeMap fileExtension=".json" mimeType="application/json" />
</staticContent>

This will add a "local" configuration under IIS. This does not work in IIS6, but does work in IIS7 and newer.

Troubleshooting "program does not contain a static 'Main' method" when it clearly does...?

In my case (where none of the proposed solutions fit), the problem was I used async/await where the signature for main method looked this way:

static async void Main(string[] args)

I simply removed async so the main method looked this way:

static void Main(string[] args)

I also removed all instances of await and used .Result for async calls, so my console application could compile happily.

SQL Statement using Where clause with multiple values

Try this:

select songName from t
where personName in ('Ryan', 'Holly')
group by songName
having count(distinct personName) = 2

The number in the having should match the amount of people. If you also need the Status to be Complete use this where clause instead of the previous one:

where personName in ('Ryan', 'Holly') and status = 'Complete'

Select specific row from mysql table

SQL tables are not ordered by default, and asking for the n-th row from a non ordered set of rows has no meaning as it could potentially return a different row each time unless you specify an ORDER BY:

select * from customer order by id where row_number() = 3

(sometimes MySQL tables are shown with an internal order but you cannot rely on this behaviour). Then you can use LIMIT offset, row_count, with a 0-based offset so row number 3 becomes offset 2:

select * from customer order by id
limit 2, 1

or you can use LIMIT row_count OFFSET offset:

select * from customer order by id
limit 1 offset 2

Create an ArrayList with multiple object types?

It depends on the use case. Can you, please, describe it more?

  • If you want to be able to add both at one time, than you can do the which is nicely described by @Sanket Parikh. Put Integer and String into a new class and use that.

  • If you want to add the list either a String or an int, but only one of these at a time, then sure it is the List<Object>

    which looks good but only for first sight! This is not a good pattern. You'll have to check what type of object you have each time you get an object from your list. Also This type of list can contain any other types as well.. So no, not a nice solution. Although maybe for a beginner it can be used. If you choose this, i would recommend to check what is "instanceof" in Java.

  • I would strongly advise to reconsider your needs and think about maybe your real nead is to encapsulate Integers to a List<Integer> and Strings to a separate List<String>

Can i tell you a metaphor for what you want to do now? I would say you want to make a List wich can contain coffee beans and coffee shops. These to type of objects are totally different! Why are these put onto the same shelf? :)

Or do you have maybe data which can be a word or a number? Yepp! This would make sense, both of them is data! Then try to use one object for that which contains the data as String and if needed, can be translated to integer value.

public class MyDataObj {
String info;
boolean isNumeric;

public MyDataObj(String info){
    setInfo(info);
}

public MyDataObj(Integer info){
    setInfo(info);
}

public String getInfo() {
    return info;
}

public void setInfo(String info) {
    this.info = info;
    this.isNumeric = false;
}

public void setInfo(Integer info) {
    this.info = Integer.toString(info);
    this.isNumeric = true;
}

public boolean isNumeric() {
    return isNumeric;
}
}

This way you can use List<MyDataObj> for your needs. Again, this depends on your needs! :)

Some edition: What about using inharitance? This is better then then List<Object> solution, because you can not have other types in the list then Strings or Integers: Interface:

public interface IMyDataObj {
public String getInfo();
}

For String:

public class MyStringDataObj implements IMyDataObj {

final String info;

public MyStringDataObj(String info){
    this.info = info;
}

@Override
public String getInfo() {
    return info;
}
}

For Integer:

public class MyIntegerDataObj implements IMyDataObj {

final Integer info;

public MyIntegerDataObj(Integer info) {
    this.info = info;
}

@Override
public String getInfo() {
    return Integer.toString(info);
}
}

Finally the list will be: List<IMyDataObj>

How to specify legend position in matplotlib in graph coordinates

You can change location of legend using loc argument. https://matplotlib.org/api/pyplot_api.html#matplotlib.pyplot.legend

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

plt.subplot(211)
plt.plot([1,2,3], label="test1")
plt.plot([3,2,1], label="test2")
# Place a legend above this subplot, expanding itself to
# fully use the given bounding box.
plt.legend(bbox_to_anchor=(0., 1.02, 1., .102), loc=3,
           ncol=2, mode="expand", borderaxespad=0.)

plt.subplot(223)
plt.plot([1,2,3], label="test1")
plt.plot([3,2,1], label="test2")
# Place a legend to the right of this smaller subplot.
plt.legend(bbox_to_anchor=(1.05, 1), loc=2, borderaxespad=0.)

plt.show()

Target a css class inside another css class

I use div instead of tables and am able to target classes within the main class, as below:

CSS

.main {
    .width: 800px;
    .margin: 0 auto;
    .text-align: center;
}
.main .table {
    width: 80%;
}
.main .row {
   / ***something ***/
}
.main .column {
    font-size: 14px;
    display: inline-block;
}
.main .left {
    width: 140px;
    margin-right: 5px;
    font-size: 12px;
}
.main .right {
    width: auto;
    margin-right: 20px;
    color: #fff;
    font-size: 13px;
    font-weight: normal;
}

HTML

<div class="main">
    <div class="table">
        <div class="row">
            <div class="column left">Swing Over Bed</div>
            <div class="column right">650mm</div>
            <div class="column left">Swing In Gap</div>
            <div class="column right">800mm</div>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

If you want to style a particular "cell" exclusively you can use another sub-class or the id of the div e.g:

.main #red { color: red; }

<div class="main">
    <div class="table">
        <div class="row">
            <div id="red" class="column left">Swing Over Bed</div>
            <div class="column right">650mm</div>
            <div class="column left">Swing In Gap</div>
            <div class="column right">800mm</div>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

How to prevent a double-click using jQuery?

The solution provided by @Kichrum almost worked for me. I did have to add e.stopImmediatePropagation() also to prevent the default action. Here is my code:

$('a, button').on('click', function (e) {
    var $link = $(e.target);
    if (!$link.data('lockedAt')) {
        $link.data('lockedAt', +new Date());
    } else if (+new Date() - $link.data('lockedAt') > 500) {
        $link.data('lockedAt', +new Date());
    } else {
        e.preventDefault();
        e.stopPropagation();
        e.stopImmediatePropagation();
    }
});

Scala Doubles, and Precision

I wouldn't use BigDecimal if you care about performance. BigDecimal converts numbers to string and then parses it back again:

  /** Constructs a `BigDecimal` using the decimal text representation of `Double` value `d`, rounding if necessary. */
  def decimal(d: Double, mc: MathContext): BigDecimal = new BigDecimal(new BigDec(java.lang.Double.toString(d), mc), mc)

I'm going to stick to math manipulations as Kaito suggested.

Adding 30 minutes to time formatted as H:i in PHP

$time = 30 * 60; //30 minutes
$start_time = date('Y-m-d h:i:s', time() - $time);
$end_time = date('Y-m-d h:i:s', time() + $time);

Django check for any exists for a query

As of Django 1.2, you can use exists():

https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/models/querysets/#exists

if some_queryset.filter(pk=entity_id).exists():
    print("Entry contained in queryset")

How to put labels over geom_bar for each bar in R with ggplot2

To add to rcs' answer, if you want to use position_dodge() with geom_bar() when x is a POSIX.ct date, you must multiply the width by 86400, e.g.,

ggplot(data=dat, aes(x=Types, y=Number, fill=sample)) +
 geom_bar(position = "dodge", stat = 'identity') +
 geom_text(aes(label=Number), position=position_dodge(width=0.9*86400), vjust=-0.25)

Find substring in the string in TWIG

Just searched for the docs, and found this:

Containment Operator: The in operator performs containment test. It returns true if the left operand is contained in the right:

{# returns true #}

{{ 'cd' in 'abcde' }}

How can I find the product GUID of an installed MSI setup?

There is also a very helpful GUI tool called Product Browser which appears to be made by Microsoft or at least an employee of Microsoft.

It can be found on Github here Product Browser

I personally had a very easy time locating the GUID I needed with this.

PHP Undefined Index

if you use isset like the answer posted already by singles, just make sure there is a bracket at the end like so:
$query_age = (isset($_GET['query_age']) ? $_GET['query_age'] : null);

unexpected T_VARIABLE, expecting T_FUNCTION

You cannot use function calls in a class construction, you should initialize that value in the constructor function.

From the PHP Manual on class properties:

This declaration may include an initialization, but this initialization must be a constant value--that is, it must be able to be evaluated at compile time and must not depend on run-time information in order to be evaluated.

A working code sample:

<?php
    class UserDatabaseConnection
    {
        public $connection;
        public function __construct()
        {
            $this->connection = sqlite_open("[path]/data/users.sqlite", 0666);
        }
        public function lookupUser($username)
        {
            // rest of my code...
            // example usage (procedural way):
            $query = sqlite_exec($this->connection, "SELECT ...", $error);
            // object oriented way:
            $query = $this->connection->queryExec("SELECT ...", $error);
        }
    }

    $udb = new UserDatabaseConnection;
?>

Depending on your needs, protected or private might be a better choice for $connection. That protects you from accidentally closing or messing with the connection.

Receive JSON POST with PHP

Try;

$data = json_decode(file_get_contents('php://input'), true);
print_r($data);
echo $data["operacion"];

From your json and your code, it looks like you have spelled the word operation correctly on your end, but it isn't in the json.

EDIT

Maybe also worth trying to echo the json string from php://input.

echo file_get_contents('php://input');

How can I reset or revert a file to a specific revision?

Use git log to obtain the hash key for specific version and then use git checkout <hashkey>

Note: Do not forget to type the hash before the last one. Last hash points your current position (HEAD) and changes nothing.

How to make html <select> element look like "disabled", but pass values?

Wow, I had the same problem, but a line of code resolved my problem. I wrote

$last_child_topic.find( "*" ).prop( "disabled", true );
$last_child_topic.find( "option" ).prop( "disabled", false ); //This seems to work on mine

I send the form to a php script then it prints the correct value for each options while it was "null" before.

Tell me if this works out. I wonder if this only works on mine somehow.

How to remove a key from HashMap while iterating over it?

To remove specific key and element from hashmap use

hashmap.remove(key)

full source code is like

import java.util.HashMap;

How to check if anonymous object has a method?

One way to do it must be if (typeof myObj.prop1 != "undefined") {...}

Scale the contents of a div by a percentage?

You can simply use the zoom property:

#myContainer{
    zoom: 0.5;
    -moz-transform: scale(0.5);
}

Where myContainer contains all the elements you're editing. This is supported in all major browsers.

Git checkout: updating paths is incompatible with switching branches

Change some value inside the List<T>

I know this is an old post but, I've always used an updater extension method:

      public static void Update<TSource>(this IEnumerable<TSource> outer, Action<TSource> updator)
        {
            foreach (var item in outer)
            {
                updator(item);
            }
        }

list.Where(w => w.Name == "height").ToList().Update(u => u.height = 30);

Convert dictionary to list collection in C#

If you want to use Linq then you can use the following snippet:

var listNumber = dicNumber.Keys.ToList();

Why is the gets function so dangerous that it should not be used?

In order to use gets safely, you have to know exactly how many characters you will be reading, so that you can make your buffer large enough. You will only know that if you know exactly what data you will be reading.

Instead of using gets, you want to use fgets, which has the signature

char* fgets(char *string, int length, FILE * stream);

(fgets, if it reads an entire line, will leave the '\n' in the string; you'll have to deal with that.)

It remained an official part of the language up to the 1999 ISO C standard, but it was officially removed by the 2011 standard. Most C implementations still support it, but at least gcc issues a warning for any code that uses it.

Constructor in an Interface?

An interface defines a contract for an API, that is a set of methods that both implementer and user of the API agree upon. An interface does not have an instanced implementation, hence no constructor.

The use case you describe is akin to an abstract class in which the constructor calls a method of an abstract method which is implemented in an child class.

The inherent problem here is that while the base constructor is being executed, the child object is not constructed yet, and therfore in an unpredictable state.

To summarize: is it asking for trouble when you call overloaded methods from parent constructors, to quote mindprod:

In general you must avoid calling any non-final methods in a constructor. The problem is that instance initialisers / variable initialisation in the derived class is performed after the constructor of the base class.

How to get the current logged in user Id in ASP.NET Core

Update in ASP.NET Core Version >= 2.0

In the Controller:

public class YourControllerNameController : Controller
{
    private readonly UserManager<ApplicationUser> _userManager;

    public YourControllerNameController(UserManager<ApplicationUser> userManager)
    {
        _userManager = userManager;
    }

    public async Task<IActionResult> YourMethodName()
    {
        var userId = User.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier) // will give the user's userId
        var userName = User.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.Name) // will give the user's userName

        // For ASP.NET Core <= 3.1
        ApplicationUser applicationUser = await _userManager.GetUserAsync(User);
        string userEmail = applicationUser?.Email; // will give the user's Email

       // For ASP.NET Core >= 5.0
       var userEmail = User.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.Email) // will give the user's Email
    }
}

In some other class:

public class OtherClass
{
    private readonly IHttpContextAccessor _httpContextAccessor;
    public OtherClass(IHttpContextAccessor httpContextAccessor)
    {
       _httpContextAccessor = httpContextAccessor;
    }

   public void YourMethodName()
   {
      var userId = _httpContextAccessor.HttpContext.User.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier);
   }
}

Then you should register IHttpContextAccessor in the Startup class as follows:

public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
{
    services.TryAddSingleton<IHttpContextAccessor, HttpContextAccessor>();

    // Or you can also register as follows

    services.AddHttpContextAccessor();
}

For more readability write extension methods as follows:

public static class ClaimsPrincipalExtensions
{
    public static T GetLoggedInUserId<T>(this ClaimsPrincipal principal)
    {
        if (principal == null)
            throw new ArgumentNullException(nameof(principal));

        var loggedInUserId = principal.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier);

        if (typeof(T) == typeof(string))
        {
            return (T)Convert.ChangeType(loggedInUserId, typeof(T));
        }
        else if (typeof(T) == typeof(int) || typeof(T) == typeof(long))
        {
            return loggedInUserId != null ? (T)Convert.ChangeType(loggedInUserId, typeof(T)) : (T)Convert.ChangeType(0, typeof(T));
        }
        else
        {
            throw new Exception("Invalid type provided");
        }
    }

    public static string GetLoggedInUserName(this ClaimsPrincipal principal)
    {
        if (principal == null)
            throw new ArgumentNullException(nameof(principal));

        return principal.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.Name);
    }

    public static string GetLoggedInUserEmail(this ClaimsPrincipal principal)
    {
        if (principal == null)
            throw new ArgumentNullException(nameof(principal));

        return principal.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.Email);
    }
}

Then use as follows:

public class YourControllerNameController : Controller
{
    public IActionResult YourMethodName()
    {
        var userId = User.GetLoggedInUserId<string>(); // Specify the type of your UserId;
        var userName = User.GetLoggedInUserName();
        var userEmail = User.GetLoggedInUserEmail();
    }
}

public class OtherClass
{
     private readonly IHttpContextAccessor _httpContextAccessor;
     public OtherClass(IHttpContextAccessor httpContextAccessor)
     {
         _httpContextAccessor = httpContextAccessor;
     }

     public void YourMethodName()
     {
         var userId = _httpContextAccessor.HttpContext.User.GetLoggedInUserId<string>(); // Specify the type of your UserId;
     }
}

How to print something when running Puppet client?

If, like me, you don't have access to the puppet master and need to print debug logs to inspect variables on your puppet client machine, you can try writing to a file from your puppet code itself:

What is the difference between VFAT and FAT32 file systems?

FAT32 along with FAT16 and FAT12 are File System Types, but vfat along with umsdos and msdos are drivers, used to mount the FAT file systems in Linux. The choosing of the driver determines how some of the features are applied to the file system, for example, systems mounted with msdos driver don't have long filenames (they are 8.3 format). vfat is the most common driver for mounting FAT32 file systems nowadays.

Source: this wikipedia article

Output of commands like df and lsblk indeed show vfat as the File System Type. But sudo file -sL /dev/<partition> shows FAT (32 bit) if a File System is FAT32.

You can confirm vfat is a module and not a File System Type by running modinfo vfat.

SPAN vs DIV (inline-block)

According to the HTML spec, <span> is an inline element and <div> is a block element. Now that can be changed using the display CSS property but there is one issue: in terms of HTML validation, you can't put block elements inside inline elements so:

<p>...<div>foo</div>...</p>

is not strictly valid even if you change the <div> to inline or inline-block.

So, if your element is inline or inline-block use a <span>. If it's a block level element, use a <div>.

ldconfig error: is not a symbolic link

Solved, at least at the point of the question.

I searched in the web before asking, an there were no conclusive solution, the reason why this error is: lib1.so and lib2.so are not OK, very probably where not compiled for a 64 PC, but for a 32 bits machine otherwise lib3.so is a 64 bits lib. At least that is my hipothesis.

VERY unfortunately ldconfig doesn't give a clean error message informing that it could not load the library, it only pumps:

ldconfig: /folder_where_the_wicked_lib_is/ is not a symbolic link

I solved this when I removed the libs not found by ldd over the binary. Now it's easier that I know where lies the problem.

My ld version: GNU ld version 2.20.51, and I don't know if a most recent version has a better message for its users.

Thanks.

Where does the slf4j log file get saved?

It does not write to a file by default. You would need to configure something like the RollingFileAppender and have the root logger write to it (possibly in addition to the default ConsoleAppender).

startActivityForResult() from a Fragment and finishing child Activity, doesn't call onActivityResult() in Fragment

May it's late for the answer. But will be helpful for anyone.

In My case want to call activity from Fragment and setResult back from the fragment.

I have used getContext of Fragment Like.

startActivityForResult(new Intent(getContext(), NextActivity.class), 111);

And Set Result from Fragment

getActivity().setResult(Activity.RESULT_OK);
                    getActivity().finish();

Now Getting Result to Fragment with

@Override
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
    super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
    if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK && requestCode == 111) {

    }
}

Test whether string is a valid integer

For me, the simplest solution was to use the variable inside a (()) expression, as so:

if ((VAR > 0))
then
  echo "$VAR is a positive integer."
fi

Of course, this solution is only valid if a value of zero doesn't make sense for your application. That happened to be true in my case, and this is much simpler than the other solutions.

As pointed out in the comments, this can make you subject to a code execution attack: The (( )) operator evaluates VAR, as stated in the Arithmetic Evaluation section of the bash(1) man page. Therefore, you should not use this technique when the source of the contents of VAR is uncertain (nor should you use ANY other form of variable expansion, of course).

Double click it to run your .jar file.

Android Open External Storage directory(sdcard) for storing file

I want to open external storage directory path for saving file programatically.I tried but not getting sdcard path. How can i do this?is there any solution for this??

To store your app files in SD card, you should use File[] getExternalFilesDirs (String type) method in Context class. Generally, second returned path would be the storage path for microSD card (if any).

On my phone, second path returned was /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/your.application.package.appname/files after passing null as argument to getExternalFilesDirs (String type). But path may vary on different phones, different Android versions.

Both File getExternalStorageDirectory () and File getExternalStoragePublicDirectory (String type) in Environment class may return SD card directory or internal memory directory depending on your phone's model and Android OS version.

Because According to Official Android Guide external storage can be

removable storage media (such as an SD card) or an internal (non-removable) storage.

The Internal and External Storage terminology according to Google/official Android docs is quite different from what we think.

xml.LoadData - Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1

Main culprit for this error is logic which determines encoding when converting Stream or byte[] array to .NET string.

Using StreamReader created with 2nd constructor parameter detectEncodingFromByteOrderMarks set to true, will determine proper encoding and create string which does not break XmlDocument.LoadXml method.

public string GetXmlString(string url)
{
    using var stream = GetResponseStream(url);
    using var reader = new StreamReader(stream, true);
    return reader.ReadToEnd(); // no exception on `LoadXml`
}

Common mistake would be to just blindly use UTF8 encoding on the stream or byte[]. Code bellow would produce string that looks valid when inspected in Visual Studio debugger, or copy-pasted somewhere, but it will produce the exception when used with Load or LoadXml if file is encoded differently then UTF8 without BOM.

public string GetXmlString(string url)
{
    byte[] bytes = GetResponseByteArray(url);
    return System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(bytes); // potentially exception on `LoadXml`
}

just to authorizes the server authentication, I rather use:

which will ask you to do the authentication as well.

If this is needed to get authorization to a user that can't login, run:

sudo -u username svn list https://your.repository.url

Is List<Dog> a subclass of List<Animal>? Why are Java generics not implicitly polymorphic?

If you are sure that the list items are subclasses of that given super type, you can cast the list using this approach:

(List<Animal>) (List<?>) dogs

This is usefull when you want to pass the list inside of a constructor or iterate over it.

What is difference between CrudRepository and JpaRepository interfaces in Spring Data JPA?

Ken's answer is basically right but I'd like to chime in on the "why would you want to use one over the other?" part of your question.

Basics

The base interface you choose for your repository has two main purposes. First, you allow the Spring Data repository infrastructure to find your interface and trigger the proxy creation so that you inject instances of the interface into clients. The second purpose is to pull in as much functionality as needed into the interface without having to declare extra methods.

The common interfaces

The Spring Data core library ships with two base interfaces that expose a dedicated set of functionalities:

  • CrudRepository - CRUD methods
  • PagingAndSortingRepository - methods for pagination and sorting (extends CrudRepository)

Store-specific interfaces

The individual store modules (e.g. for JPA or MongoDB) expose store-specific extensions of these base interfaces to allow access to store-specific functionality like flushing or dedicated batching that take some store specifics into account. An example for this is deleteInBatch(…) of JpaRepository which is different from delete(…) as it uses a query to delete the given entities which is more performant but comes with the side effect of not triggering the JPA-defined cascades (as the spec defines it).

We generally recommend not to use these base interfaces as they expose the underlying persistence technology to the clients and thus tighten the coupling between them and the repository. Plus, you get a bit away from the original definition of a repository which is basically "a collection of entities". So if you can, stay with PagingAndSortingRepository.

Custom repository base interfaces

The downside of directly depending on one of the provided base interfaces is two-fold. Both of them might be considered as theoretical but I think they're important to be aware of:

  1. Depending on a Spring Data repository interface couples your repository interface to the library. I don't think this is a particular issue as you'll probably use abstractions like Page or Pageable in your code anyway. Spring Data is not any different from any other general purpose library like commons-lang or Guava. As long as it provides reasonable benefit, it's just fine.
  2. By extending e.g. CrudRepository, you expose a complete set of persistence method at once. This is probably fine in most circumstances as well but you might run into situations where you'd like to gain more fine-grained control over the methods expose, e.g. to create a ReadOnlyRepository that doesn't include the save(…) and delete(…) methods of CrudRepository.

The solution to both of these downsides is to craft your own base repository interface or even a set of them. In a lot of applications I have seen something like this:

interface ApplicationRepository<T> extends PagingAndSortingRepository<T, Long> { }

interface ReadOnlyRepository<T> extends Repository<T, Long> {

  // Al finder methods go here
}

The first repository interface is some general purpose base interface that actually only fixes point 1 but also ties the ID type to be Long for consistency. The second interface usually has all the find…(…) methods copied from CrudRepository and PagingAndSortingRepository but does not expose the manipulating ones. Read more on that approach in the reference documentation.

Summary - tl;dr

The repository abstraction allows you to pick the base repository totally driven by you architectural and functional needs. Use the ones provided out of the box if they suit, craft your own repository base interfaces if necessary. Stay away from the store specific repository interfaces unless unavoidable.

Can comments be used in JSON?

NO. JSON used to support comments, but they were abused and removed from the standard.

From the creator of JSON:

I removed comments from JSON because I saw people were using them to hold parsing directives, a practice which would have destroyed interoperability. I know that the lack of comments makes some people sad, but it shouldn't. - Douglas Crockford, 2012

The official JSON site is at JSON.org. JSON is defined as a standard by ECMA International. There is always a petition process to have standards revised. It is unlikely that annotations will be added to the JSON standard for several reasons.

JSON by design is an easily reverse-engineered (human parsed) alternative to XML. It is simplified even to the point that annotations are unnecessary. It is not even a markup language. The goal is stability and interoperablilty.

Anyone who understands the "has-a" relationship of object orientation can understand any JSON structure - that is the whole point. It is just a directed acyclic graph (DAG) with node tags (key/value pairs), which is a near universal data structure.

This only annotation required might be "//These are DAG tags". The key names can be as informative as required, allowing arbitrary semantic arity.

Any platform can parse JSON with just a few lines of code. XML requires complex OO libraries that are not viable on many platforms.

Annotations would just make JSON make less interoperable. There is simply nothing else to add, unless what you really need is a markup language (XML), and don't care if your persisted data is easily parsed.

BUT as the creator of JSON also observed, there has always been JS pipeline support for comments:

Go ahead and insert all the comments you like. Then pipe it through JSMin before handing it to your JSON parser. - Douglas Crockford, 2012

Is it possible to format an HTML tooltip (title attribute)?

Try using entity codes such as &#013; for CR, &#010; for LF, and &#009; for TAB.

For example:

How do I left align these Bootstrap form items?

If you are saying that your problem is how to left align the form labels, see if this helps:
http://jsfiddle.net/panchroma/8gYPQ/

Try changing the text-align left / right in the CSS

.form-horizontal .control-label{
    /* text-align:right; */
    text-align:left;
    background-color:#ffa;
}

Good luck!

Inheriting from a template class in c++

Are you just trying to derive from Area<int>? In which case you do this:

class Rectangle : public Area<int>
{
    // ...
};

EDIT: Following the clarification, it seems you're actually trying to make Rectangle a template as well, in which case the following should work:

template <typename T>

List comprehension with if statement

This is not a lambda function. It is a list comprehension.

Just change the order:

[ y for y in a if y not in b]

The requested resource does not support HTTP method 'GET'

In my case, the route signature was different from the method parameter. I had id, but I was accepting documentId as parameter, that caused the problem.

[Route("Documents/{id}")] <--- caused the webapi error
[Route("Documents/{documentId}")] <-- solved
public Document Get(string documentId)

How to gzip all files in all sub-directories into one compressed file in bash

tar -zcvf compressFileName.tar.gz folderToCompress

everything in folderToCompress will go to compressFileName

Edit: After review and comments I realized that people may get confused with compressFileName without an extension. If you want you can use .tar.gz extension(as suggested) with the compressFileName

Change Name of Import in Java, or import two classes with the same name

How to Install pip for python 3.7 on Ubuntu 18?

A quick add-on to mpenkov's answer above (didn't want this to get lost in the comments)

For me, I had to install pip for 3.6 first

sudo apt install python3-pip

now you can install python 3.7

sudo apt install python3.7

and then I could install pip for 3.7

python3.7 -m pip install pip

and as a bonus, to install other modules just preface with

python3.7 -m pip install <module>

EDIT 1 (12/2019):

I know this is obvious for most. but if you want python 3.8, just substitute python3.8 in place of python3.7

EDIT 2 (5/2020):

For those that are able to upgrade, Python 3.8 is available out-of-the-box for Ubuntu 20.04 which was released a few weeks ago.

Moment.js - How to convert date string into date?

if you have a string of date, then you should try this.

const FORMAT = "YYYY ddd MMM DD HH:mm";

const theDate = moment("2019 Tue Apr 09 13:30", FORMAT);
// Tue Apr 09 2019 13:30:00 GMT+0300

const theDate1 = moment("2019 Tue Apr 09 13:30", FORMAT).format('LL')
// April 9, 2019

or try this :

const theDate1 = moment("2019 Tue Apr 09 13:30").format(FORMAT);

What does "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" mean?

Most of the time, when you try to assing value into object, and if the value is null, then this kind of exception occur. Please check this link.

for the sake of self learning, you can put some check condition. like

if (myObj== null)
Console.Write("myObj is NULL");

Injecting Mockito mocks into a Spring bean

If you're using spring >= 3.0, try using Springs @Configuration annotation to define part of the application context

@Configuration
@ImportResource("com/blah/blurk/rest-of-config.xml")
public class DaoTestConfiguration {

    @Bean
    public ApplicationService applicationService() {
        return mock(ApplicationService.class);
    }

}

If you don't want to use the @ImportResource, it can be done the other way around too:

<beans>
    <!-- rest of your config -->

    <!-- the container recognize this as a Configuration and adds it's beans
         to the container -->
    <bean class="com.package.DaoTestConfiguration"/>
</beans>

For more information, have a look at spring-framework-reference : Java-based container configuration

want current date and time in "dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss.SS" format

If you are using JAVA8 API then this code will help.

DateTimeFormatter formatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss");
String dateTimeString = LocalDateTime.now().format(formatter);
System.out.println(dateTimeString);

It will print the date in the given format.

But if you again create a object of LocalDateTime it will print the 'T' in between the date and time.

LocalDateTime dateTime = LocalDateTime.parse(dateTimeString, formatter);
System.out.println(dateTime.toString());

So as mentioned in earlier posts as well, the representation and usage is different.

Its better to use "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss" pattern and convert the string/date object accordingly.

How to select between brackets (or quotes or ...) in Vim?

To select between the single quotes I usually do a vi' ("select inner single quotes").

Inside a parenthesis block, I use vib ("select inner block")

Inside a curly braces block you can use viB ("capital B")

To make the selections "inclusive" (select also the quotes, parenthesis or braces) you can use a instead of i.

You can read more about the Text object selections on the manual, or :help text-objects within vim.

How do I use CSS with a ruby on rails application?

I did the following...

  1. place your css file in the app/assets/stylesheets folder.
  2. Add the stylesheet link <%= stylesheet_link_tag "filename" %> in your default layouts file (most likely application.html.erb)

I recommend this over using your public folder. You can also reference the stylesheet inline, such as in your index page.

How do I get an element to scroll into view, using jQuery?

After trying to find a solution that handled every circumstance (options for animating the scroll, padding around the object once it scrolls into view, works even in obscure circumstances such as in an iframe), I finally ended up writing my own solution to this. Since it seems to work when many other solutions failed, I thought I'd share it:

function scrollIntoViewIfNeeded($target, options) {

    var options = options ? options : {},
    $win = $($target[0].ownerDocument.defaultView), //get the window object of the $target, don't use "window" because the element could possibly be in a different iframe than the one calling the function
    $container = options.$container ? options.$container : $win,
    padding = options.padding ? options.padding : 20,
    elemTop = $target.offset().top,
    elemHeight = $target.outerHeight(),
    containerTop = $container.scrollTop(),
    //Everything past this point is used only to get the container's visible height, which is needed to do this accurately
    containerHeight = $container.outerHeight(),
    winTop = $win.scrollTop(),
    winBot = winTop + $win.height(),
    containerVisibleTop = containerTop < winTop ? winTop : containerTop,
    containerVisibleBottom = containerTop + containerHeight > winBot ? winBot : containerTop + containerHeight,
    containerVisibleHeight = containerVisibleBottom - containerVisibleTop;

    if (elemTop < containerTop) {
        //scroll up
        if (options.instant) {
            $container.scrollTop(elemTop - padding);
        } else {
            $container.animate({scrollTop: elemTop - padding}, options.animationOptions);
        }
    } else if (elemTop + elemHeight > containerTop + containerVisibleHeight) {
        //scroll down
        if (options.instant) {
            $container.scrollTop(elemTop + elemHeight - containerVisibleHeight + padding);
        } else {
            $container.animate({scrollTop: elemTop + elemHeight - containerVisibleHeight + padding}, options.animationOptions);
        }
    }
}

$target is a jQuery object containing the object you wish to scroll into view if needed.

options (optional) can contain the following options passed in an object:

options.$container - a jQuery object pointing to the containing element of $target (in other words, the element in the dom with the scrollbars). Defaults to the window that contains the $target element and is smart enough to select an iframe window. Remember to include the $ in the property name.

options.padding - the padding in pixels to add above or below the object when it is scrolled into view. This way it is not right against the edge of the window. Defaults to 20.

options.instant - if set to true, jQuery animate will not be used and the scroll will instantly pop to the correct location. Defaults to false.

options.animationOptions - any jQuery options you wish to pass to the jQuery animate function (see http://api.jquery.com/animate/). With this, you can change the duration of the animation or have a callback function executed when the scrolling is complete. This only works if options.instant is set to false. If you need to have an instant animation but with a callback, set options.animationOptions.duration = 0 instead of using options.instant = true.

Add User to Role ASP.NET Identity

This one works for me. You can see this code on AccountController -> Register

var user = new JobUser { UserName = model.Email, Email = model.Email };
var result = await UserManager.CreateAsync(user, model.Password);
if (result.Succeeded)
{
    //add this to add role to user
     await UserManager.AddToRoleAsync(user.Id, "Name of your role");
}

but the role name must exist in your AspNetRoles table.

Scroll event listener javascript

For those who found this question hoping to find an answer that doesn't involve jQuery, you hook into the window "scroll" event using normal event listening. Say we want to add scroll listening to a number of CSS-selector-able elements:

// what should we do when scrolling occurs
var runOnScroll =  function(evt) {
  // not the most exciting thing, but a thing nonetheless
  console.log(evt.target);
};

// grab elements as array, rather than as NodeList
var elements = document.querySelectorAll("...");
elements = Array.prototype.slice.call(elements);

// and then make each element do something on scroll
elements.forEach(function(element) {
  window.addEventListener("scroll", runOnScroll, {passive: true});
});

(Using the passive attribute to tell the browser that this event won't interfere with scrolling itself)

For bonus points, you can give the scroll handler a lock mechanism so that it doesn't run if we're already scrolling:

// global lock, so put this code in a closure of some sort so you're not polluting.
var locked = false;
var lastCall = false;

var runOnScroll =  function(evt) {
  if(locked) return;

  if (lastCall) clearTimeout(lastCall);
  lastCall = setTimeout(() => {
    runOnScroll(evt);
    // you do this because you want to handle the last
    // scroll event, even if it occurred while another
    // event was being processed.
  }, 200);

  // ...your code goes here...

  locked = false;
};

Temporary table in SQL server causing ' There is already an object named' error

You must modify the query like this

CREATE TABLE #TMPGUARDIAN(
LAST_NAME NVARCHAR(30),
FRST_NAME NVARCHAR(30))

INSERT INTO #TMPGUARDIAN(FRST_NAME,LAST_NAME)
SELECT LAST_NAME,FRST_NAME  FROM TBL_PEOPLE

-- Make a last session for clearing the all temporary tables. always drop at end. In your case, sometimes, there might be an error happen if the table is not exists, while you trying to delete.

DROP TABLE #TMPGUARDIAN

Avoid using insert into Because If you are using insert into then in future if you want to modify the temp table by adding a new column which can be filled after some process (not along with insert). At that time, you need to rework and design it in the same manner.

Use Table Variable http://odetocode.com/articles/365.aspx

declare @userData TABLE(
 LAST_NAME NVARCHAR(30),
    FRST_NAME NVARCHAR(30)
)

Advantages No need for Drop statements, since this will be similar to variables. Scope ends immediately after the execution.

extract digits in a simple way from a python string

Without using regex, you can just do:

def get_num(x):
    return int(''.join(ele for ele in x if ele.isdigit()))

Result:

>>> get_num(x)
120
>>> get_num(y)
90
>>> get_num(banana)
200
>>> get_num(orange)
300

EDIT :

Answering the follow up question.

If we know that the only period in a given string is the decimal point, extracting a float is quite easy:

def get_num(x):
    return float(''.join(ele for ele in x if ele.isdigit() or ele == '.'))

Result:

>>> get_num('dfgd 45.678fjfjf')
45.678

APT command line interface-like yes/no input?

A very simple (but not very sophisticated) way of doing this for a single choice would be:

msg = 'Shall I?'
shall = input("%s (y/N) " % msg).lower() == 'y'

You could also write a simple (slightly improved) function around this:

def yn_choice(message, default='y'):
    choices = 'Y/n' if default.lower() in ('y', 'yes') else 'y/N'
    choice = input("%s (%s) " % (message, choices))
    values = ('y', 'yes', '') if choices == 'Y/n' else ('y', 'yes')
    return choice.strip().lower() in values

Note: On Python 2, use raw_input instead of input.

How do I change a tab background color when using TabLayout?

Have you tried checking the API?

You will need to create a listener for the OnTabSelectedListener event, then when a user selects any tab you should check if it is the correct one, then change the background color using tabLayout.setBackgroundColor(int color), or if it is not the correct tab make sure you change back to the normal color again with the same method.

What does `unsigned` in MySQL mean and when to use it?

MySQL says:

All integer types can have an optional (nonstandard) attribute UNSIGNED. Unsigned type can be used to permit only nonnegative numbers in a column or when you need a larger upper numeric range for the column. For example, if an INT column is UNSIGNED, the size of the column's range is the same but its endpoints shift from -2147483648 and 2147483647 up to 0 and 4294967295.

When do I use it ?

Ask yourself this question: Will this field ever contain a negative value?
If the answer is no, then you want an UNSIGNED data type.

A common mistake is to use a primary key that is an auto-increment INT starting at zero, yet the type is SIGNED, in that case you’ll never touch any of the negative numbers and you are reducing the range of possible id's to half.

Setting a max character length in CSS

Try this for truncating characters after setting it to max-width. I have used 75ch in this case

An example: https://codepen.io/srekoble/pen/EgmyxV

We will be using webkit css for this. In short WebKit is a HTML/CSS web browser rendering engine for Safari/Chrome. This may be brower specific as every browser is backed by a rendering engine to draw the HTML/CSS web page.

JavaScript/jQuery - "$ is not defined- $function()" error

if you are trying to use jquery in your electron app before adding jquery you should add it to your modules:

<script>
    if (typeof module === 'object') {
        window.module = module;
        module = undefined;
    }
</script>
<script src="js/jquery-3.5.1.min.js"></script>

SyntaxError of Non-ASCII character

You should define source code encoding, add this to the top of your script:

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

The reason why it works differently in console and in the IDE is, likely, because of different default encodings set. You can check it by running:

import sys
print sys.getdefaultencoding()

Difference between Grunt, NPM and Bower ( package.json vs bower.json )

Npm and Bower are both dependency management tools. But the main difference between both is npm is used for installing Node js modules but bower js is used for managing front end components like html, css, js etc.

A fact that makes this more confusing is that npm provides some packages which can be used in front-end development as well, like grunt and jshint.

These lines add more meaning

Bower, unlike npm, can have multiple files (e.g. .js, .css, .html, .png, .ttf) which are considered the main file(s). Bower semantically considers these main files, when packaged together, a component.

Edit: Grunt is quite different from Npm and Bower. Grunt is a javascript task runner tool. You can do a lot of things using grunt which you had to do manually otherwise. Highlighting some of the uses of Grunt:

  1. Zipping some files (e.g. zipup plugin)
  2. Linting on js files (jshint)
  3. Compiling less files (grunt-contrib-less)

There are grunt plugins for sass compilation, uglifying your javascript, copy files/folders, minifying javascript etc.

Please Note that grunt plugin is also an npm package.

Question-1

When I want to add a package (and check in the dependency into git), where does it belong - into package.json or into bower.json

It really depends where does this package belong to. If it is a node module(like grunt,request) then it will go in package.json otherwise into bower json.

Question-2

When should I ever install packages explicitly like that without adding them to the file that manages dependencies

It does not matter whether you are installing packages explicitly or mentioning the dependency in .json file. Suppose you are in the middle of working on a node project and you need another project, say request, then you have two options:

  • Edit the package.json file and add a dependency on 'request'
  • npm install

OR

  • Use commandline: npm install --save request

--save options adds the dependency to package.json file as well. If you don't specify --save option, it will only download the package but the json file will be unaffected.

You can do this either way, there will not be a substantial difference.

How to rollback or commit a transaction in SQL Server

The good news is a transaction in SQL Server can span multiple batches (each exec is treated as a separate batch.)

You can wrap your EXEC statements in a BEGIN TRANSACTION and COMMIT but you'll need to go a step further and rollback if any errors occur.

Ideally you'd want something like this:

BEGIN TRY
    BEGIN TRANSACTION
        exec( @sqlHeader)
        exec(@sqlTotals)
        exec(@sqlLine)
    COMMIT
END TRY
BEGIN CATCH

    IF @@TRANCOUNT > 0
        ROLLBACK
END CATCH

The BEGIN TRANSACTION and COMMIT I believe you are already familiar with. The BEGIN TRY and BEGIN CATCH blocks are basically there to catch and handle any errors that occur. If any of your EXEC statements raise an error, the code execution will jump to the CATCH block.

Your existing SQL building code should be outside the transaction (above) as you always want to keep your transactions as short as possible.

Can we instantiate an abstract class?

The technical part has been well-covered in the other answers, and it mainly ends in:
"He is wrong, he doesn't know stuff, ask him to join SO and get it all cleared :)"

I would like to address the fact(which has been mentioned in other answers) that this might be a stress-question and is an important tool for many interviewers to know more about you and how do you react to difficult and unusual situations. By giving you incorrect codes, he probably wanted to see if you argued back. To know whether you have the confidence to stand up against your seniors in situations similar to this.

P.S: I don't know why but I have a feeling that the interviewer has read this post.

How do I resolve "Please make sure that the file is accessible and that it is a valid assembly or COM component"?

In my case I also have unmanaged dll's (C++) in workspace and if you specify:

<files>
    <file src="bin\*.dll" target="lib" />
</files>

nuget would try to load every dll as an assembly, even the C++ libraries! To avoid this behaviour explicitly define your C# assemblies with references tag:

Regex to validate JSON

As was written above, if the language you use has a JSON-library coming with it, use it to try decoding the string and catch the exception/error if it fails! If the language does not (just had such a case with FreeMarker) the following regex could at least provide some very basic validation (it's written for PHP/PCRE to be testable/usable for more users). It's not as foolproof as the accepted solution, but also not that scary =):

~^\{\s*\".*\}$|^\[\n?\{\s*\".*\}\n?\]$~s

short explanation:

// we have two possibilities in case the string is JSON
// 1. the string passed is "just" a JSON object, e.g. {"item": [], "anotheritem": "content"}
// this can be matched by the following regex which makes sure there is at least a {" at the
// beginning of the string and a } at the end of the string, whatever is inbetween is not checked!

^\{\s*\".*\}$

// OR (character "|" in the regex pattern)
// 2. the string passed is a JSON array, e.g. [{"item": "value"}, {"item": "value"}]
// which would be matched by the second part of the pattern above

^\[\n?\{\s*\".*\}\n?\]$

// the s modifier is used to make "." also match newline characters (can happen in prettyfied JSON)

if I missed something that would break this unintentionally, I'm grateful for comments!

=MAX(IF((A1:A6=A10)*(B1:B6=B10),C1:F6))

How do I return the SQL data types from my query?

For SQL Server 2012 and above: If you place the query into a string then you can get the result set data types like so:

DECLARE @query nvarchar(max) = 'select 12.1 / 10.1 AS [Column1]';
EXEC sp_describe_first_result_set @query, null, 0;

Angular 2 Unit Tests: Cannot find name 'describe'

if the error is in the .specs file app/app.component.spec.ts(7,3): error TS2304: Cannot find name 'beforeEach'.

add this to the top of your file and npm install rxjs

import { range } from 'rxjs'; import { map, filter } from 'rxjs/operators';

Setting Icon for wpf application (VS 08)

After getting a XamlParseException with message: 'Provide value on 'System.Windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension' with the given solutions, setting the icon programmatically worked for me. This is how I did it:

  1. Put the icon in a folder <icon_path> in the project directory
  2. Mimic the folder path <icon_path> in the solution
  3. Add a new item (your icon) in the solution folder you created
  4. Add the following code in the WPF window's code behind:

Icon = new BitmapImage(new Uri("<icon_path>", UriKind.Relative));

Please inform me if you have any difficulties implementing this solution so I can help.

html5 - canvas element - Multiple layers

I was having this same problem too, I while multiple canvas elements with position:absolute does the job, if you want to save the output into an image, that's not going to work.

So I went ahead and did a simple layering "system" to code as if each layer had its own code, but it all gets rendered into the same element.

https://github.com/federicojacobi/layeredCanvas

I intend to add extra capabilities, but for now it will do.

You can do multiple functions and call them in order to "fake" layers.

Twitter bootstrap collapse: change display of toggle button

Easier with inline coding

<button type="button" ng-click="showmore = (showmore !=null && showmore) ? false : true;" class="btn float-right" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#moreoptions">
            <span class="glyphicon" ng-class="showmore ? 'glyphicon-collapse-up': 'glyphicon-collapse-down'"></span>
            {{ showmore !=null && showmore ? "Hide More Options" : "Show More Options" }}
        </button>

Where should my npm modules be installed on Mac OS X?

Second Thomas David Kehoe, with the following caveat --

If you are using node version manager (nvm), your global node modules will be stored under whatever version of node you are using at the time you saved the module.

So ~/.nvm/versions/node/{version}/lib/node_modules/.

Centering a background image, using CSS

background-position: center center;

doesn't work for me without...

background-attachment: fixed;

using both centered my image on x and y axis

background-position: center center;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-attachment: fixed;

MySQL Error 1093 - Can't specify target table for update in FROM clause

You could insert the desired rows' ids into a temp table and then delete all the rows that are found in that table.

which may be what @Cheekysoft meant by doing it in two steps.

Is there a query language for JSON?

jmespath works really quite easy and well, http://jmespath.org/ It is being used by Amazon in the AWS command line interface, so it´s got to be quite stable.

How to do select from where x is equal to multiple values?

You can try using parentheses around the OR expressions to make sure your query is interpreted correctly, or more concisely, use IN:

SELECT ads.*, location.county
FROM ads
LEFT JOIN location ON location.county = ads.county_id
WHERE ads.published = 1
AND ads.type = 13
AND ads.county_id IN (2,5,7,9)

How to show a dialog to confirm that the user wishes to exit an Android Activity?

I like a @GLee approach and using it with fragment like below.

@Override
public void onBackPressed() {
    if(isTaskRoot()) {
        new ExitDialogFragment().show(getSupportFragmentManager(), null);
    } else {
        super.onBackPressed();
    }
}

Dialog using Fragment:

public class ExitDialogFragment extends DialogFragment {

    @Override
    public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        return new AlertDialog.Builder(getActivity())
            .setTitle(R.string.exit_question)
            .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.yes, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    getActivity().finish();
                }
            })
            .setNegativeButton(android.R.string.no, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    getDialog().cancel();
                }
            })
            .create();
    }
}

How to Alter a table for Identity Specification is identity SQL Server

You can't alter the existing columns for identity.

You have 2 options,

Create a new table with identity & drop the existing table

Create a new column with identity & drop the existing column

Approach 1. (New table) Here you can retain the existing data values on the newly created identity column.

CREATE TABLE dbo.Tmp_Names
    (
      Id int NOT NULL
             IDENTITY(1, 1),
      Name varchar(50) NULL
    )
ON  [PRIMARY]
go

SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Tmp_Names ON
go

IF EXISTS ( SELECT  *
            FROM    dbo.Names )
    INSERT  INTO dbo.Tmp_Names ( Id, Name )
            SELECT  Id,
                    Name
            FROM    dbo.Names TABLOCKX
go

SET IDENTITY_INSERT dbo.Tmp_Names OFF
go

DROP TABLE dbo.Names
go

Exec sp_rename 'Tmp_Names', 'Names'

Approach 2 (New column) You can’t retain the existing data values on the newly created identity column, The identity column will hold the sequence of number.

Alter Table Names
Add Id_new Int Identity(1, 1)
Go

Alter Table Names Drop Column ID
Go

Exec sp_rename 'Names.Id_new', 'ID', 'Column'

Eclipse java debugging: source not found

The symptoms perfectly describes the case when the found class doesn't have associated (or assigned) source.

  • You can associate the sources for JDK classes in Preferences > Java > Installed JRE. If JRE (not JDK) is detected as default JRE to be used, then your JDK classes won't have attached sources. Note that, not all of the JDK classes have provided sources, some of them are distributed in binary form only.
  • Classes from project's build path, added manually requires that you manually attach the associated source. The source can reside in a zip or jar file, in the workspace or in the filesystem. Eclipse will scan the zip, so your sources doesn't have to be in the root of the archive file, for example.
  • Classes, from dependencies coming from another plugins (maven, PDE, etc.). In this case, it is up to the plugin how the source will be provided.
    • PDE will require that each plugin have corresponding XXX.source bundle, which contains the source of the plugin. More information can be found here and here.
    • m2eclipse can fetch sources and javadocs for Maven dependencies if they are available. This feature should be enabled m2eclipse preferences (the option was named something like "Download source and javadocs".
    • For other plugins, you'll need to consult their documentation
  • Classes, which are loaded from your project are automatically matched with the sources from the project.

But what if Eclipse still suggest that you attach source, even if I correctly set my classes and their sources:

This almost always means that Eclipse is finding the class from different place than you expect. Inspect your source lookup path to see where it might get the wrong class. Update the path accordingly to your findings.

Eclipse doesn't find anything at all, when breakpoint is hit:

This happens, when you are source lookup path doesn't contain the class, which is currently loaded in the runtime. Even if the class is in the workspace, it can be invisible to the launch configuration, because Eclipse follows the source lookup path strictly and attaches only the dependencies of the project, which is currently debugged.

An exception is the debugging bundles in PDE. In this case, because the runtime is composed from multiple projects, which doesn't have to declare dependencies on one another, Eclipse will automatically find the class in the workspace, even if it is not available in the source lookup path.

I cannot see the variables when I hit a breakpoint or it just opens the source, but doesn't select the breakpoint line:

This means that in the runtime, either the JVM or the classes themselves doesn't have the necessary debug information. Each time classes are compiled, debug information can be attached. To reduce the storage space of the classes, sometimes this information is omitted, which makes debugging such code a pain. Your only chance is to try and recompile with debug enabled.

Eclipse source viewer shows different lines than those that are actually executed:

It sometimes can show that empty space is executed as well. This means that your sources doesn't match your runtime version of the classes. Even if you think that this is not possible, it is, so make sure you setup the correct sources. Or your runtime match your latest changes, depending on what are you trying to do.

how can I set visible back to true in jquery

Remove the visible="false" attribute and add a CSS class that is not visible by default. Then you should be able to reference the dropdown by the correct id, for example:

$("#ctl00_cphTest_test1").show();

Above ID you should serach for in the source of the rendered page in your browser.

Is it possible to pull just one file in Git?

You can fetch and then check out only one file in this way:

git fetch
git checkout -m <revision> <yourfilepath>
git add <yourfilepath>
git commit

Regarding the git checkout command:

  • <revision> -- a branch name, i.e. origin/master
  • <yourfilepath> does not include the repository name (that you can get from clicking copy path button on a file page on GitHub), i.e. README.md

How to make a progress bar

You could use ProgressBar.js. No dependencies, easy API and supports major browsers.

var line = new ProgressBar.Line('#container');
line.animate(1);

See more examples of usage in the demo page.

How to clear form after submit in Angular 2?

To reset the complete form upon submission, you can use reset() in Angular. The below example is implemented in Angular 8. Below is a Subscribe form where we are taking email as an input.

<form class="form" id="subscribe-form" data-response-message-animation="slide-in-left" #subscribeForm="ngForm"
(ngSubmit)="subscribe(subscribeForm.value); subscribeForm.reset()">
<div class="input-group">
   <input type="email" name="email" id="sub_email" class="form-control rounded-circle-left"
      placeholder="Enter your email" required ngModel #email="ngModel" email>
   <div class="input-group-append">
      <button class="btn btn-rounded btn-dark" type="submit" id="register"
         [disabled]="!subscribeForm.valid">Register</button>
   </div>
</div>
</form>

Refer official doc: https://angular.io/guide/forms#show-and-hide-validation-error-messages.

Print text in Oracle SQL Developer SQL Worksheet window

You could put your text in a select statement such as...

SELECT 'Querying Table1' FROM dual;

PowerShell script to check the status of a URL

For people that have PowerShell 3 or later (i.e. Windows Server 2012+ or Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Windows Management Framework 4.0 update), you can do this one-liner instead of invoking System.Net.WebRequest:

$statusCode = wget http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20259251/ | % {$_.StatusCode}

Convert list to array in Java

I came across this code snippet that solves it.

//Creating a sample ArrayList
List<Long> list = new ArrayList<Long>();

//Adding some long type values
list.add(100l);
list.add(200l);
list.add(300l);

//Converting the ArrayList to a Long
Long[] array = (Long[]) list.toArray(new Long[list.size()]);

//Printing the results
System.out.println(array[0] + " " + array[1] + " " + array[2]);

The conversion works as follows:

  1. It creates a new Long array, with the size of the original list
  2. It converts the original ArrayList to an array using the newly created one
  3. It casts that array into a Long array (Long[]), which I appropriately named 'array'

Event on a disabled input

OR do this with jQuery and CSS!

$('input.disabled').attr('ignore','true').css({
    'pointer-events':'none',
     'color': 'gray'
});

This way you make the element look disabled and no pointer events will fire, yet it allows propagation and if submitted you can use the attribute 'ignore' to ignore it.

CSS: Hover one element, effect for multiple elements?

This is not difficult to achieve, but you need to use the javascript onmouseover function. Pseudoscript:

<div class="section ">

<div class="image"><img src="myImage.jpg" onmouseover=".layer {border: 1px solid black;} .image {border: 1px solid black;}" /></div>

<div class="layer">Lorem Ipsum</div>

</div>

Use your own colors. You can also reference javascript functions in the mouseover command.

Capture screenshot of active window?

ScreenCapture sc = new ScreenCapture();
// capture entire screen, and save it to a file
Image img = sc.CaptureScreen();
// display image in a Picture control named imageDisplay
this.imageDisplay.Image = img;
// capture this window, and save it
sc.CaptureWindowToFile(this.Handle,"C:\\temp2.gif",ImageFormat.Gif);

Remove Item in Dictionary based on Value

You can use the following as extension method

 public static void RemoveByValue<T,T1>(this Dictionary<T,T1> src , T1 Value)
    {
        foreach (var item in src.Where(kvp => kvp.Value.Equals( Value)).ToList())
        {
            src.Remove(item.Key);
        }
    }

How to Edit a row in the datatable

You can find that row with

DataRow row = table.Select("Product_id=2").FirstOrDefault();

and update it

row["Product_name"] = "cde";

Do you have to put Task.Run in a method to make it async?

When you use Task.Run to run a method, Task gets a thread from threadpool to run that method. So from the UI thread's perspective, it is "asynchronous" as it doesn't block UI thread.This is fine for desktop application as you usually don't need many threads to take care of user interactions.

However, for web application each request is serviced by a thread-pool thread and thus the number of active requests can be increased by saving such threads. Frequently using threadpool threads to simulate async operation is not scalable for web applications.

True Async doesn't necessarily involving using a thread for I/O operations, such as file / DB access etc. You can read this to understand why I/O operation doesn't need threads. http://blog.stephencleary.com/2013/11/there-is-no-thread.html

In your simple example,it is a pure CPU-bound calculation, so using Task.Run is fine.

Sorting a Data Table

This worked for me:

dt.DefaultView.Sort = "Town ASC, Cutomer ASC";
dt = dt.DefaultView.ToTable();

MySql Inner Join with WHERE clause

1. Change the INNER JOIN before the WHERE clause.
2. You have two WHEREs which is not allowed.

Try this:

SELECT table1.f_id FROM table1
  INNER JOIN table2
     ON (table2.f_id = table1.f_id AND table2.f_type = 'InProcess')
   WHERE table1.f_com_id = '430' AND table1.f_status = 'Submitted'
