How to fix "no valid 'aps-environment' entitlement string found for application" in Xcode 4.3?

This was what fixed it for me. (I had already tried toggling the capabilities on/off, recreating the provisioning profile, etc).

In the Build Settings tab, in Code Signing Entitlements, my .entitlements file wasn't link for all sections. Once I added it to the Any SDK section, the error was resolved.

How to update each dependency in package.json to the latest version?

Looks like npm-check-updates is the only way to make this happen now.

npm i -g npm-check-updates
ncu -u
npm install

On npm <3.11:

Simply change every dependency's version to *, then run npm update --save. (Note: broken in recent (3.11) versions of npm).

Before:

  "dependencies": {
    "express": "*",
    "mongodb": "*",
    "underscore": "*",
    "rjs": "*",
    "jade": "*",
    "async": "*"
  }

After:

  "dependencies": {
    "express": "~3.2.0",
    "mongodb": "~1.2.14",
    "underscore": "~1.4.4",
    "rjs": "~2.10.0",
    "jade": "~0.29.0",
    "async": "~0.2.7"
  }

Of course, this is the blunt hammer of updating dependencies. It's fine if—as you said—the project is empty and nothing can break.

On the other hand, if you're working in a more mature project, you probably want to verify that there are no breaking changes in your dependencies before upgrading.

To see which modules are outdated, just run npm outdated. It will list any installed dependencies that have newer versions available.

What is the difference between require() and library()?

?library

and you will see:

library(package) and require(package) both load the package with name package and put it on the search list. require is designed for use inside other functions; it returns FALSE and gives a warning (rather than an error as library() does by default) if the package does not exist. Both functions check and update the list of currently loaded packages and do not reload a package which is already loaded. (If you want to reload such a package, call detach(unload = TRUE) or unloadNamespace first.) If you want to load a package without putting it on the search list, use requireNamespace.

How to resolve the error "Unable to access jarfile ApacheJMeter.jar errorlevel=1" while initiating Jmeter?

I'm running JMeter 2.8 (Windows 7) and received a message similar to that in the original post:

C:\>jmeter
Error: Unable to access jarfile C:\local\software\jMeter\apache-jmeter-2.8\binApacheJMeter.jar
errorlevel=1
Press any key to continue . . .

I'd created a Windows environment variable JMETER_BIN and set it to the JMeter path which I could see contained ApacheJMeter.jar (so it wasn't a question that the jar was missing).

I should have noticed at the time this portion of the error: "binApacheJMeter.jar"

When I went to the jmeter.bat file to troubleshoot, I noticed this line:

%JM_START% %JM_LAUNCH% %ARGS% %JVM_ARGS% -jar "%JMETER_BIN%ApacheJMeter.jar" %JMETER_CMD_LINE_ARGS%

and that caused me to revisit the "binApacheJMeter.jar" portion of the error.

What was happening was that the batch file was requiring a trailing slash on the end of the path in the JMETER_BIN environment variable to correctly specify the location of the .jar.

Once I corrected my environment variable, adding the trailing slash, all was wonderful.

YMMV, but this worked for me.

gnuplot - adjust size of key/legend

To adjust the length of the samples:

set key samplen X

(default is 4)

To adjust the vertical spacing of the samples:

set key spacing X

(default is 1.25)

and (for completeness), to adjust the fontsize:

set key font "<face>,<size>"

(default depends on the terminal)

And of course, all these can be combined into one line:

set key samplen 2 spacing .5 font ",8"

Note that you can also change the position of the key using set key at <position> or any one of the pre-defined positions (which I'll just defer to help key at this point)

What is the simplest C# function to parse a JSON string into an object?

I think this is what you want:

JavaScriptSerializer JSS = new JavaScriptSerializer();
T obj = JSS.Deserialize<T>(String);

C# using streams

I wouldn't call those different kind of streams. The Stream class have CanRead and CanWrite properties that tell you if the particular stream can be read from and written to.

The major difference between different stream classes (such as MemoryStream vs FileStream) is the backing store - where the data is read from or where it's written to. It's kind of obvious from the name. A MemoryStream stores the data in memory only, a FileStream is backed by a file on disk, a NetworkStream reads data from the network and so on.

How to use mysql JOIN without ON condition?

Counting Line Numbers in Eclipse

Are you interested in counting the executable lines rather than the total file line count? If so you could try a code coverage tool such as EclEmma. As a side effect of the code coverage stats you get stats on the number of executable lines and blocks (and methods and classes). These are rolled up from the method level upwards, so you can see line counts for the packages, source roots and projects as well.

Compare and contrast REST and SOAP web services?

SOAP uses WSDL for communication btw consumer and provider, whereas REST just uses XML or JSON to send and receive data

WSDL defines contract between client and service and is static by its nature. In case of REST contract is somewhat complicated and is defined by HTTP, URI, Media Formats and Application Specific Coordination Protocol. It's highly dynamic unlike WSDL.

SOAP doesn't return human readable result, whilst REST result is readable with is just plain XML or JSON

This is not true. Plain XML or JSON are not RESTful at all. None of them define any controls(i.e. links and link relations, method information, encoding information etc...) which is against REST as far as messages must be self contained and coordinate interaction between agent/client and service.

With links + semantic link relations clients should be able to determine what is next interaction step and follow these links and continue communication with service.

It is not necessary that messages be human readable, it's possible to use cryptic format and build perfectly valid REST applications. It doesn't matter whether message is human readable or not.

Thus, plain XML(application/xml) or JSON(application/json) are not sufficient formats for building REST applications. It's always reasonable to use subset of these generic media types which have strong semantic meaning and offer enough control information(links etc...) to coordinate interactions between client and server.

REST is over only HTTP

Not true, HTTP is most widely used and when we talk about REST web services we just assume HTTP. HTTP defines interface with it's methods(GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH etc) and various headers which can be used uniformly for interacting with resources. This uniformity can be achieved with other protocols as well.

P.S. Very simple, yet very interesting explanation of REST: http://www.looah.com/source/view/2284

How to catch all exceptions in c# using try and catch?

Both are fine, but only the first one will allow you to inspect the Exception itself.

Both swallow the Exception, and you should only catch exceptions to do something meaningfull. Hiding a problem is not meaningful!

How to get data from Magento System Configuration

$configValue = Mage::getStoreConfig('sectionName/groupName/fieldName');

sectionName, groupName and fieldName are present in etc/system.xml file of your module.

The above code will automatically fetch config value of currently viewed store.

If you want to fetch config value of any other store than the currently viewed store then you can specify store ID as the second parameter to the getStoreConfig function as below:

$store = Mage::app()->getStore(); // store info
$configValue = Mage::getStoreConfig('sectionName/groupName/fieldName', $store);

Ok so in Windows sourcetree that is simple, on macOS I looked as well for a while..

Click Command + Shift + R while in source tree a hidden popup will be shown that will let you discard individual files OR ALL! Why is this hidden? We will never know.. but it works!

Create multiple threads and wait all of them to complete

I've made a very simple extension method to wait for all threads of a collection:

using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Threading;

namespace Extensions
{
    public static class ThreadExtension
    {
        public static void WaitAll(this IEnumerable<Thread> threads)
        {
            if(threads!=null)
            {
                foreach(Thread thread in threads)
                { thread.Join(); }
            }
        }
    }
}

Then you simply call:

List<Thread> threads=new List<Thread>();
// Add your threads to this collection
threads.WaitAll();

Javascript array declaration: new Array(), new Array(3), ['a', 'b', 'c'] create arrays that behave differently

Arrays have numerical indexes. So,

a = new Array();
a['a1']='foo';
a['a2']='bar';

and

b = new Array(2);
b['b1']='foo';
b['b2']='bar';

are not adding elements to the array, but adding .a1 and .a2 properties to the a object (arrays are objects too). As further evidence, if you did this:

a = new Array();
a['a1']='foo';
a['a2']='bar';
console.log(a.length); // outputs zero because there are no items in the array

Your third option:

c=['c1','c2','c3'];

is assigning the variable c an array with three elements. Those three elements can be accessed as: c[0], c[1] and c[2]. In other words, c[0] === 'c1' and c.length === 3.

Javascript does not use its array functionality for what other languages call associative arrays where you can use any type of key in the array. You can implement most of the functionality of an associative array by just using an object in javascript where each item is just a property like this.

a = {};
a['a1']='foo';
a['a2']='bar';

It is generally a mistake to use an array for this purpose as it just confuses people reading your code and leads to false assumptions about how the code works.

Android – Listen For Incoming SMS Messages

In case you want to handle intent on opened activity, you can use PendintIntent (Complete steps below):

public class SMSReciver extends BroadcastReceiver {

                final Object[] pdusObj = (Object[]) bundle.get("pdus");
                for (int i = 0; i < pdusObj.length; i++) {
                    SmsMessage currentMessage = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[]) pdusObj[i]);
                    String phoneNumber = currentMessage.getDisplayOriginatingAddress();
                    String senderNum = phoneNumber;
                    String message = currentMessage.getDisplayMessageBody();

How do you validate a URL with a regular expression in Python?

I admit, I find your regular expression totally incomprehensible. I wonder if you could use urlparse instead? Something like:

pieces = urlparse.urlparse(url)
assert all([pieces.scheme, pieces.netloc])
assert set(pieces.netloc) <= set(string.letters + string.digits + '-.')  # and others?
assert pieces.scheme in ['http', 'https', 'ftp'] # etc.

It might be slower, and maybe you'll miss conditions, but it seems (to me) a lot easier to read and debug than a regular expression for URLs.

Pagination on a list using ng-repeat

I know this thread is old now but I am answering it to keep things a bit updated.

With Angular 1.4 and above you can directly use limitTo filter which apart from accepting the limit parameter also accepts a begin parameter.

Usage: {{ limitTo_expression | limitTo : limit : begin}}

So now you may not need to use any third party library to achieve something like pagination. I have created a fiddle to illustrate the same.

Deserialize JSON string to c# object

This may be useful:

var serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
dynamic jsonObject = serializer.Deserialize<dynamic>(json);

Where "json" is the string that contains the JSON values. Then to retrieve the values from the jsonObject you may use

myProperty = Convert.MyPropertyType(jsonObject["myProperty"]);

Changing MyPropertyType to the proper type (ToInt32, ToString, ToBoolean, etc).

Is it possible to register a http+domain-based URL Scheme for iPhone apps, like YouTube and Maps?

You can't, as far as I know, make the entire OS understand an http:+domain URL. You can only register new schemes (I use x-darkslide: in my app). If the app is installed, Mobile Safari will launch the app correctly.

However, you would have to handle the case where the app isn't installed with a "Still here? Click this link to download the app from iTunes." in your web page.

Error handling in Bash

This has served me well for a while now. It prints error or warning messages in red, one line per parameter, and allows an optional exit code.

# Custom errors
EX_UNKNOWN=1

warning()
{
    # Output warning messages
    # Color the output red if it's an interactive terminal
    # @param $1...: Messages

    test -t 1 && tput setf 4

    printf '%s\n' "$@" >&2

    test -t 1 && tput sgr0 # Reset terminal
    true
}

error()
{
    # Output error messages with optional exit code
    # @param $1...: Messages
    # @param $N: Exit code (optional)

    messages=( "$@" )

    # If the last parameter is a number, it's not part of the messages
    last_parameter="${messages[@]: -1}"
    if [[ "$last_parameter" =~ ^[0-9]*$ ]]
    then
        exit_code=$last_parameter
        unset messages[$((${#messages[@]} - 1))]
    fi

    warning "${messages[@]}"

    exit ${exit_code:-$EX_UNKNOWN}
}

- java.lang.NullPointerException - setText on null object reference

The problem is the tv.setText(text). The variable tv is probably null and you call the setText method on that null, which you can't. My guess that the problem is on the findViewById method, but it's not here, so I can't tell more, without the code.

How to use KeyListener

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/events/keylistener.html Check this tutorial

If it's a UI based application , then " I also need to know what I need to add to my code so that my program waits about 700 milliseconds for a keyinput before moving on to another method" you can use GlassPane or Timer class to fulfill the requirement.

For key Event:

public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {

    int key = e.getKeyCode();

    if (key == KeyEvent.VK_LEFT) {
        dx = -1;
    }

    if (key == KeyEvent.VK_RIGHT) {
        dx = 1;
    }

    if (key == KeyEvent.VK_UP) {
        dy = -1;
    }

    if (key == KeyEvent.VK_DOWN) {
        dy = 1;
    }
}

How do I provide a username and password when running "git clone [email protected]"?

The user@host:path/to/repo format tells Git to use ssh to log in to host with username user. From git help clone:

An alternative scp-like syntax may also be used with the ssh protocol:

[user@]host.xz:path/to/repo.git/

The part before the @ is the username, and the authentication method (password, public key, etc.) is determined by ssh, not Git. Git has no way to pass a password to ssh, because ssh might not even use a password depending on the configuration of the remote server.

Use ssh-agent to avoid typing passwords all the time

If you don't want to type your ssh password all the time, the typical solution is to generate a public/private key pair, put the public key in your ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file on the remote server, and load your private key into ssh-agent. Also see Configuring Git over SSH to login once, GitHub's help page on ssh key passphrases, gitolite's ssh documentation, and Heroku's ssh keys documentation.

Choosing between multiple accounts at GitHub (or Heroku or...)

If you have multiple accounts at a place like GitHub or Heroku, you'll have multiple ssh keys (at least one per account). To pick which account you want to log in as, you have to tell ssh which private key to use.

For example, suppose you had two GitHub accounts: foo and bar. Your ssh key for foo is ~/.ssh/foo_github_id and your ssh key for bar is ~/.ssh/bar_github_id. You want to access [email protected]:foo/foo.git with your foo account and [email protected]:bar/bar.git with your bar account. You would add the following to your ~/.ssh/config:

Host gh-foo
    Hostname github.com
    User git
    IdentityFile ~/.ssh/foo_github_id
Host gh-bar
    Hostname github.com
    User git
    IdentityFile ~/.ssh/bar_github_id

You would then clone the two repositories as follows:

git clone gh-foo:foo/foo.git # logs in with account foo
git clone gh-bar:bar/bar.git # logs in with account bar

Avoiding ssh altogether

Some services provide HTTP access as an alternative to ssh:

WARNING: Adding your password to the clone URL will cause Git to store your plaintext password in .git/config. To securely store your password when using HTTP, use a credential helper. For example:

git config --global credential.helper cache
git config --global credential.https://github.com.username foo
git clone https://github.com/foo/repository.git

The above will cause Git to ask for your password once every 15 minutes (by default). See git help credentials for details.

How to extract the substring between two markers?

With sed it is possible to do something like this with a string:

echo "$STRING" | sed -e "s|.*AAA\(.*\)ZZZ.*|\1|"

And this will give me 1234 as a result.

You could do the same with re.sub function using the same regex.

>>> re.sub(r'.*AAA(.*)ZZZ.*', r'\1', 'gfgfdAAA1234ZZZuijjk')
'1234'

In basic sed, capturing group are represented by \(..\), but in python it was represented by (..).

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by ERROR

Lines 45-47:

?>

<?php

That's sending a couple of newlines as output, so the headers are already dispatched. Just remove those 3 lines (it's all one big PHP block after all, no need to end PHP parsing and then start it again), as well as the similar block on lines 60-62, and it'll work.

Notice that the error message you got actually gives you a lot of information to help you find this yourself:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at C:\xampp\htdocs\speedycms\deleteclient.php:47) in C:\xampp\htdocs\speedycms\deleteclient.php on line 106

The two bolded sections tell you where the item is that sent output before the headers (line 47) and where the item is that was trying to send a header after output (line 106).

Move to next item using Java 8 foreach loop in stream

You can use a simple if statement instead of continue. So instead of the way you have your code, you can try:

try(Stream<String> lines = Files.lines(path, StandardCharsets.ISO_8859_1)){
            filteredLines = lines.filter(...).foreach(line -> {
           ...
           if(!...) {
              // Code you want to run
           }
           // Once the code runs, it will continue anyway
    });
}

The predicate in the if statement will just be the opposite of the predicate in your if(pred) continue; statement, so just use ! (logical not).

How to use terminal commands with Github?

You can't push into other people's repositories. This is because push permanently gets code into their repository, which is not cool.

What you should do, is to ask them to pull from your repository. This is done in GitHub by going to the other repository and sending a "pull request".

There is a very informative article on the GitHub's help itself: https://help.github.com/articles/using-pull-requests

To interact with your own repository, you have the following commands. I suggest you start reading on Git a bit more for these instructions (lots of materials online).

To add new files to the repository or add changed files to staged area:

$ git add <files>

To commit them:

$ git commit

To commit unstaged but changed files:

$ git commit -a

To push to a repository (say origin):

$ git push origin

To push only one of your branches (say master):

$ git push origin master

To fetch the contents of another repository (say origin):

$ git fetch origin

To fetch only one of the branches (say master):

$ git fetch origin master

To merge a branch with the current branch (say other_branch):

$ git merge other_branch

Note that origin/master is the name of the branch you fetched in the previous step from origin. Therefore, updating your master branch from origin is done by:

$ git fetch origin master
$ git merge origin/master

You can read about all of these commands in their manual pages (either on your linux or online), or follow the GitHub helps:

How to sort Counter by value? - python

Use the Counter.most_common() method, it'll sort the items for you:

>>> from collections import Counter
>>> x = Counter({'a':5, 'b':3, 'c':7})
>>> x.most_common()
[('c', 7), ('a', 5), ('b', 3)]

It'll do so in the most efficient manner possible; if you ask for a Top N instead of all values, a heapq is used instead of a straight sort:

>>> x.most_common(1)
[('c', 7)]

Outside of counters, sorting can always be adjusted based on a key function; .sort() and sorted() both take callable that lets you specify a value on which to sort the input sequence; sorted(x, key=x.get, reverse=True) would give you the same sorting as x.most_common(), but only return the keys, for example:

>>> sorted(x, key=x.get, reverse=True)
['c', 'a', 'b']

or you can sort on only the value given (key, value) pairs:

>>> sorted(x.items(), key=lambda pair: pair[1], reverse=True)
[('c', 7), ('a', 5), ('b', 3)]

See the Python sorting howto for more information.

Reverse of JSON.stringify?

$("#save").click(function () {
    debugger
    var xx = [];
    var dd = { "firstname": "", "lastname": "", "address": "" };
    var otable1 = $("#table1").dataTable().fnGetData();

    for (var i = 0; i < otable1.length; i++) {
        dd.firstname = otable1[i][0];
        dd.lastname = otable1[i][1];
        dd.address = otable1[i][2];
        xx.push(dd);
        var dd = { "firstname": "", "lastname": "", "address": "" };
    }
    JSON.stringify(alert(xx));
    $.ajax({

        url: '../Home/save',
        type: 'POST',
        data: JSON.stringify({ u: xx }),
        contentType: 'application/json;',
        dataType: 'json',
        success: function (event) {
            alert(event);
            $("#table2").dataTable().fnDraw();
            location.reload();

Defined Edges With CSS3 Filter Blur

I used -webkit-transform: translate3d(0, 0, 0); with overflow:hidden;.

DOM:

<div class="parent">
    <img class="child" src="http://placekitten.com/100" />
</div>

CSS:

.parent {
    width: 100px;
    height: 100px;
    overflow: hidden;
    -webkit-transform: translate3d(0, 0, 0);
}
.child {
    -webkit-filter: blur(10px);
}

DEMO: http://jsfiddle.net/DA5L4/18/

This technic works on Chrome34 and iOS7.1

Update

http://jsfiddle.net/DA5L4/50/

if you use latest version of Chrome, you don't need to use -webkit-transform: translate3d(0, 0, 0); hack. But it doesn't works on Safari(webkit).

What is the difference between SQL and MySQL?

SQL is the actual language that as defined by the ISO and ANSI. Here is a link to the Wikipedia article. MySQL is a specific implementation of this standard. I believe Oracle bought the company that originally developed MySQL. Other companies also have their own implementations of the SQL standard.

How can I use pickle to save a dict?

Django 1.7 - makemigrations not detecting changes

./manage makemigrations
./manage migrate

Migrations track changes to DB so if youre changing from unmanaged to managed, you'll need to make sure that youre database table is up to date relating to the Model you're dealing with.

If you are still in dev mode, I personally decided to delete the migration files in my IDE as well as in the django_migrations table relating to my Model and rerun the above command.

REMEMBER: if you have a migration that ends with _001 in your IDE & _003 in your database. Django will only see if you have a migration ending with _004 for anything to update.

The 2 (code & db migrations) are linked and work in tandem.

Happy coding.

How to handle an IF STATEMENT in a Mustache template?

Mustache templates are, by design, very simple; the homepage even says:

Logic-less templates.

So the general approach is to do your logic in JavaScript and set a bunch of flags:

if(notified_type == "Friendship")
    data.type_friendship = true;
else if(notified_type == "Other" && action == "invite")
    data.type_other_invite = true;
//...

and then in your template:

{{#type_friendship}}
    friendship...
{{/type_friendship}}
{{#type_other_invite}}
    invite...
{{/type_other_invite}}

If you want some more advanced functionality but want to maintain most of Mustache's simplicity, you could look at Handlebars:

Handlebars provides the power necessary to let you build semantic templates effectively with no frustration.

Mustache templates are compatible with Handlebars, so you can take a Mustache template, import it into Handlebars, and start taking advantage of the extra Handlebars features.

How do you see recent SVN log entries?

This answer is directed at further questions regarding Subversion subcommands options. For every available subcommand (i.e. add, log, status ...), you can simply add the --help option to display the complete list of available options you can use with your subcommand as well as examples on how to use them. The following snippet is taken directly from the svn log --help command output under the "examples" section :

Show the latest 5 log messages for the current working copy
directory and display paths changed in each commit:
  svn log -l 5 -v

TypeScript and field initializers

I wanted a solution that would have the following:

  • All the data objects are required and must be filled by the constructor.
  • No need to provide defaults.
  • Can use functions inside the class.

Here is the way that I do it:

export class Person {
  id!: number;
  firstName!: string;
  lastName!: string;

  getFullName() {
    return `${this.firstName} ${this.lastName}`;
  }

  constructor(data: OnlyData<Person>) {
    Object.assign(this, data);
  }
}

const person = new Person({ id: 5, firstName: "John", lastName: "Doe" });
person.getFullName();

All the properties in the constructor are mandatory and may not be omitted without a compiler error.

It is dependant on the OnlyData that filters out getFullName() out of the required properties and it is defined like so:

// based on : https://medium.com/dailyjs/typescript-create-a-condition-based-subset-types-9d902cea5b8c
type FilterFlags<Base, Condition> = { [Key in keyof Base]: Base[Key] extends Condition ? never : Key };
type AllowedNames<Base, Condition> = FilterFlags<Base, Condition>[keyof Base];
type SubType<Base, Condition> = Pick<Base, AllowedNames<Base, Condition>>;
type OnlyData<T> = SubType<T, (_: any) => any>;

Current limitations of this way:

  • Requires TypeScript 2.8
  • Classes with getters/setters

     var myCss = {
         style : fs.readFileSync('./style.css','utf8');
     };

     app.get('/', function(req, res){

       title: 'My Site',
       myCss: myCss
      });
     });

put this on template

   <%- myCss.style %>

just build style.css

  <style>
    body {
     background-color: #D8D8D8;
     color: #444;

django MultiValueDictKeyError error, how do I deal with it

Use the MultiValueDict's get method. This is also present on standard dicts and is a way to fetch a value while providing a default if it does not exist.

Generally,

my_var = dict.get(<key>, <default>)

JPanel setBackground(Color.BLACK) does nothing

You have to call the super.paintComponent(); as well, to allow the Java API draw the original background. The super refers to the original JPanel code.

public void paintComponent(Graphics g){
    super.paintComponent(g);

    g.setColor(Color.red);
    g.fillOval(player.getxCenter(), player.getyCenter(), player.getRadius(), player.getRadius());

How to tell if UIViewController's view is visible

I made a swift extension based on @progrmr's answer.

It allows you to easily check if a UIViewController is on screen like so:

if someViewController.isOnScreen {
    // Do stuff here
}

The extension:

//
//  UIViewControllerExtension.swift
//

import UIKit

extension UIViewController{
    var isOnScreen: Bool{
        return self.isViewLoaded() && view.window != nil
    }
}

Spring data JPA query with parameter properties

Are you working with a @Service too? Because if you are, then you can @Autowired your PersonRepository to the @Service and then in the service just invoke the Name class and use the form that @CuriosMind... proposed:

@Query(select p from Person p where p.forename = :forename and p.surname = :surname)
User findByForenameAndSurname(@Param("surname") String lastname,
                         @Param("forename") String firstname);
}

and when invoking the method from the repository in the service, you can then pass those parameters.

MongoDB and "joins"

If you use mongoose, you can just use(assuming you're using subdocuments and population):

Profile.findById profileId
  .select 'friends'
  .exec (err, profile) ->
    if err or not profile
      handleError err, profile, res
    else
      Status.find { profile: { $in: profile.friends } }, (err, statuses) ->
        if err
          handleErr err, statuses, res
        else
          res.json createJSON statuses

It retrieves Statuses which belong to one of Profile (profileId) friends. Friends is array of references to other Profiles. Profile schema with friends defined:

schema = new mongoose.Schema
  # ...

  friends: [
    type: mongoose.Schema.Types.ObjectId
    ref: 'Profile'
    unique: true
    index: true
  ]

How to set focus on a view when a layout is created and displayed?

How to make a class JSON serializable

Do you have an idea about the expected output? For example, will this do?

>>> f  = FileItem("/foo/bar")
>>> magic(f)
'{"fname": "/foo/bar"}'

In that case you can merely call json.dumps(f.__dict__).

If you want more customized output then you will have to subclass JSONEncoder and implement your own custom serialization.

For a trivial example, see below.

>>> from json import JSONEncoder
>>> class MyEncoder(JSONEncoder):
        def default(self, o):
            return o.__dict__

>>> MyEncoder().encode(f)
'{"fname": "/foo/bar"}'

Then you pass this class into the json.dumps() method as cls kwarg:

json.dumps(cls=MyEncoder)

If you also want to decode then you'll have to supply a custom object_hook to the JSONDecoder class. For example:

>>> def from_json(json_object):
        if 'fname' in json_object:
            return FileItem(json_object['fname'])
>>> f = JSONDecoder(object_hook = from_json).decode('{"fname": "/foo/bar"}')
>>> f
<__main__.FileItem object at 0x9337fac>
>>>

Check if a string is not NULL or EMPTY

You don't necessarily have to use the [string]:: prefix. This works in the same way:

if ($version)
{
    $request += "/" + $version
}

A variable that is null or empty string evaluates to false.

How to check for an empty struct?

Just a quick addition, because I tackled the same issue today:

With Go 1.13 it is possible to use the new isZero() method:

if reflect.ValueOf(session).IsZero() {
     // do stuff...
}

I didn't test this regarding performance, but I guess that this should be faster, than comparing via reflect.DeepEqual().

How do I remove all non-ASCII characters with regex and Notepad++?

To keep new lines:

  1. First select a character for new line... I used #.
  2. Select replace option, extended.
  3. input \n replace with #
  4. Hit Replace All

Next:

  1. Select Replace option Regular Expression.
  2. Input this : [^\x20-\x7E]+
  3. Keep Replace With Empty
  4. Hit Replace All

Now, Select Replace option Extended and Replace # with \n

:) now, you have a clean ASCII file ;)

How to select a range of the second row to the last row

Sub SelectAllCellsInSheet(SheetName As String)

    Sheets(SheetName).Range("A2", Sheets(SheetName).Cells(Lastrow, lastCol)).Select
End Sub

To use with ActiveSheet:

Call SelectAllCellsInSheet(ActiveSheet.Name)

Request Monitoring in Chrome

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would chime in.

Chrome currently has a solution built in.

  1. Use CTRL+SHIFT+I (or navigate to Current Page Control > Developer > Developer Tools. In the newer versions of Chrome, click the Wrench icon > Tools > Developer Tools.) to enable the Developer Tools.
  2. From within the developer tools click on the Network button. If it isn't already, enable it for the session or always.
  3. Click the "XHR" sub-button.
  4. Initiate an AJAX call.
  5. You will see items begin to show up in the left column under "Resources".
  6. Click the resource and there are 2 tabs showing the headers and return content.

JavaScript - cannot set property of undefined

In javascript almost everything is an object, null and undefined are exception.

Instances of Array is an object. so you can set property of an array, for the same reason,you can't set property of a undefined, because its NOT an object

Inheriting constructors

If your compiler supports C++11 standard, there is a constructor inheritance using using (pun intended). For more see Wikipedia C++11 article. You write:

class A
{
    public:
        explicit A(int x) {}
};

class B: public A
{
     using A::A;
};

This is all or nothing - you cannot inherit only some constructors, if you write this, you inherit all of them. To inherit only selected ones you need to write the individual constructors manually and call the base constructor as needed from them.

Historically constructors could not be inherited in the C++03 standard. You needed to inherit them manually one by one by calling base implementation on your own.

Python strptime() and timezones?

Since strptime returns a datetime object which has tzinfo attribute, We can simply replace it with desired timezone.

>>> import datetime

>>> date_time_str = '2018-06-29 08:15:27.243860'
>>> date_time_obj = datetime.datetime.strptime(date_time_str, '%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S.%f').replace(tzinfo=datetime.timezone.utc)
>>> date_time_obj.tzname()
'UTC'

Force IE10 to run in IE10 Compatibility View?

If you want to set the compatibility mode in the browser itself and not in the html do the following

  1. Open IE 10
  2. Press the ALT Key to bring up the IE Menubar
  3. Click on the Tools menu
  4. Click on compatibility view setting.
  5. Clicks check the box; display all the websites in compatibility view or
  6. Add only the desired websites to the compatibility view

As shown in the image below. The website should then open up with IE 10 Compatibility view.

stale element reference: element is not attached to the page document

This errors have two common causes: The element has been deleted entirely, or the element is no longer attached to the DOM.

If you already checked if it is not your case, you could be facing the same problem as me.

The element in the DOM is not found because your page is not entirely loaded when Selenium is searching for the element. To solve that, you can put an explicit wait condition that tells Selenium to wait until the element is available to be clicked on.

from selenium.webdriver.support import expected_conditions as EC

wait = WebDriverWait(driver, 10)
element = wait.until(EC.element_to_be_clickable((By.ID, 'someid')))

See: https://selenium-python.readthedocs.io/waits.html

Maven Modules + Building a Single Specific Module

You say you "really just want B", but this is false. You want B, but you also want an updated A if there have been any changes to it ("active development").

So, sometimes you want to work with A, B, and C. For this case you have aggregator project P. For the case where you want to work with A and B (but do not want C), you should create aggregator project Q.

Edit 2016: The above information was perhaps relevant in 2009. As of 2016, I highly recommend ignoring this in most cases, and simply using the -am or -pl command-line flags as described in the accepted answer. If you're using a version of maven from before v2.1, change that first :)

Rename multiple files in cmd

I found the following in a small comment in Supperuser.com:

@JacksOnF1re - New information/technique added to my answer. You can actually delete your Copy of prefix using an obscure forward slash technique: ren "Copy of .txt" "////////"

Of How does the Windows RENAME command interpret wildcards? See in this thread, the answer of dbenham.

My problem was slightly different, I wanted to add a Prefix to the file and remove from the beginning what I don't need. In my case I had several hundred of enumerated files such as:

SKMBT_C36019101512510_001.jpg
SKMBT_C36019101512510_002.jpg
SKMBT_C36019101512510_003.jpg
SKMBT_C36019101512510_004.jpg
:
:

Now I wanted to respectively rename them all to (Album 07 picture #):

A07_P001.jpg
A07_P002.jpg
A07_P003.jpg
A07_P004.jpg
:
:

I did it with a single command line and it worked like charm:

ren "SKMBT_C36019101512510_*.*" "/////////////////A06_P*.*"

Note:

  1. Quoting (") the "<Name Scheme>" is not an option, it does not work otherwise, in our example: "SKMBT_C36019101512510_*.*" and "/////////////////A06_P*.*" were quoted.
  2. I had to exactly count the number of characters I want to remove and leave space for my new characters: The A06_P actually replaced 2510_ and the SKMBT_C3601910151 was removed, by using exactly the number of slashes ///////////////// (17 characters).
  3. I recommend copying your files (making a backup), before applying the above.

Django set default form values

As explained in Django docs, initial is not default.

  • The initial value of a field is intended to be displayed in an HTML . But if the user delete this value, and finally send back a blank value for this field, the initial value is lost. So you do not obtain what is expected by a default behaviour.

  • The default behaviour is : the value that validation process will take if data argument do not contain any value for the field.

To implement that, a straightforward way is to combine initial and clean_<field>():

class JournalForm(ModelForm):
    tank = forms.IntegerField(widget=forms.HiddenInput(), initial=123)

    (...)

    def clean_tank(self):
        if not self['tank'].html_name in self.data:
            return self.fields['tank'].initial
        return self.cleaned_data['tank']

Constructing pandas DataFrame from values in variables gives "ValueError: If using all scalar values, you must pass an index"

You could try:

df2 = pd.DataFrame.from_dict({'a':a,'b':b}, orient = 'index')

From the documentation on the 'orient' argument: If the keys of the passed dict should be the columns of the resulting DataFrame, pass ‘columns’ (default). Otherwise if the keys should be rows, pass ‘index’.

    /// - Returns: JSON string
    func toJson() throws -> String {
        let data = try JSONSerialization.data(withJSONObject: self)
        if let string = String(data: data, encoding: .utf8) {
            return string

How often does python flush to a file?

I don't know if this applies to python as well, but I think it depends on the operating system that you are running.

On Linux for example, output to terminal flushes the buffer on a newline, whereas for output to files it only flushes when the buffer is full (by default). This is because it is more efficient to flush the buffer fewer times, and the user is less likely to notice if the output is not flushed on a newline in a file.

You might be able to auto-flush the output if that is what you need.

EDIT: I think you would auto-flush in python this way (based from here)

#0 means there is no buffer, so all output
#will be auto-flushed
fsock = open('out.log', 'w', 0)
sys.stdout = fsock
#do whatever
fsock.close()

Mockito match any class argument

the solution from millhouse is not working anymore with recent version of mockito

This solution work with java 8 and mockito 2.2.9

where ArgumentMatcher is an instanceof org.mockito.ArgumentMatcher

public class ClassOrSubclassMatcher<T> implements ArgumentMatcher<Class<T>> {

   private final Class<T> targetClass;

    public ClassOrSubclassMatcher(Class<T> targetClass) {
        this.targetClass = targetClass;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean matches(Class<T> obj) {
        if (obj != null) {
            if (obj instanceof Class) {
                return targetClass.isAssignableFrom( obj);
            }
        }
        return false;
    }
}

And the use

when(a.method(ArgumentMatchers.argThat(new ClassOrSubclassMatcher<>(A.class)))).thenReturn(b);

how to return index of a sorted list?

You can use the python sorting functions' key parameter to sort the index array instead.

>>> s = [2, 3, 1, 4, 5, 3]
>>> sorted(range(len(s)), key=lambda k: s[k])
[2, 0, 1, 5, 3, 4]
>>>

How to draw a rounded Rectangle on HTML Canvas?

Here's one I wrote... uses arcs instead of quadratic curves for better control over radius. Also, it leaves the stroking and filling up to you

    /* Canvas 2d context - roundRect
 *
 * Accepts 5 parameters, the start_x and start_y points, the end_x and end_y points, and the radius of the corners
 *
 * No return value
 */

CanvasRenderingContext2D.prototype.roundRect = function(sx,sy,ex,ey,r) {
    var r2d = Math.PI/180;
    if( ( ex - sx ) - ( 2 * r ) < 0 ) { r = ( ( ex - sx ) / 2 ); } //ensure that the radius isn't too large for x
    if( ( ey - sy ) - ( 2 * r ) < 0 ) { r = ( ( ey - sy ) / 2 ); } //ensure that the radius isn't too large for y
    this.beginPath();
    this.moveTo(sx+r,sy);
    this.lineTo(ex-r,sy);
    this.arc(ex-r,sy+r,r,r2d*270,r2d*360,false);
    this.lineTo(ex,ey-r);
    this.arc(ex-r,ey-r,r,r2d*0,r2d*90,false);
    this.lineTo(sx+r,ey);
    this.arc(sx+r,ey-r,r,r2d*90,r2d*180,false);
    this.lineTo(sx,sy+r);
    this.arc(sx+r,sy+r,r,r2d*180,r2d*270,false);
    this.closePath();
}

Here is an example:

var _e = document.getElementById('#my_canvas');
var _cxt = _e.getContext("2d");
_cxt.roundRect(35,10,260,120,20);
_cxt.strokeStyle = "#000";
_cxt.stroke();

Could not load file or assembly CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc

It turns out the answer was ridiculously simple, but mystifying as to why it was necessary.

In the IIS Manager on the server, I set the application pool for my web application to not allow 32-bit assemblies.

It seems it assumes, on a 64-bit system, that you must want the 32 bit assembly. Bizarre.

Disable PHP in directory (including all sub-directories) with .htaccess

None of those answers are working for me (either generating a 500 error or doing nothing). That is probably due to the fact that I'm working on a hosted server where I can't have access to Apache configuration.

But this worked for me :

RewriteRule ^.*\.php$ - [F,L]

This line will generate a 403 Forbidden error for any URL that ends with .php and ends up in this subdirectory.

@Oussama lead me to the right direction here, thanks to him.

Deserializing JSON array into strongly typed .NET object

Afer looking at the source, for WP7 Hammock doesn't actually use Json.Net for JSON parsing. Instead it uses it's own parser which doesn't cope with custom types very well.

If using Json.Net directly it is possible to deserialize to a strongly typed collection inside a wrapper object.

var response = @"
    {
        ""data"": [
            {
                ""name"": ""A Jones"",
                ""id"": ""500015763""
            },
            {
                ""name"": ""B Smith"",
                ""id"": ""504986213""
            },
            {
                ""name"": ""C Brown"",
                ""id"": ""509034361""
            }
        ]
    }
";

var des = (MyClass)Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(response, typeof(MyClass));

return des.data.Count.ToString();

and with:

public class MyClass
{
    public List<User> data { get; set; }
}

public class User
{
    public string name { get; set; }
    public string id { get; set; }
}

Having to create the extra object with the data property is annoying but that's a consequence of the way the JSON formatted object is constructed.

Slack URL to open a channel from browser

The URI to open a specific channel in Slack app is:

slack://channel?id=<CHANNEL-ID>&team=<TEAM-ID>

You will probably need these resources of the Slack API to get IDs of your team and channel:

Here's the full documentation from Slack

Definition of "downstream" and "upstream"

In terms of source control, you're "downstream" when you copy (clone, checkout, etc) from a repository. Information flowed "downstream" to you.

When you make changes, you usually want to send them back "upstream" so they make it into that repository so that everyone pulling from the same source is working with all the same changes. This is mostly a social issue of how everyone can coordinate their work rather than a technical requirement of source control. You want to get your changes into the main project so you're not tracking divergent lines of development.

Sometimes you'll read about package or release managers (the people, not the tool) talking about submitting changes to "upstream". That usually means they had to adjust the original sources so they could create a package for their system. They don't want to keep making those changes, so if they send them "upstream" to the original source, they shouldn't have to deal with the same issue in the next release.

How to programmatically set cell value in DataGridView?

I searched for the solution how I can insert a new row and How to set the individual values of the cells inside it like Excel. I solved with following code:

dataGridView1.ReadOnly = false; //Before modifying, it is required.
dataGridView1.Rows.Add(); //Inserting first row if yet there is no row, first row number is '0'
dataGridView1.Rows[0].Cells[0].Value = "Razib, this is 0,0!"; //Setting the leftmost and topmost cell's value (Not the column header row!)
dataGridView1[1, 0].Value = "This is 0,1!"; //Setting the Second cell of the first row!

Note:

  1. Previously I have designed the columns in design mode.
  2. I have set the row header visibility to false from property of the datagridview.
  3. The last line is important to understand: When yoou directly giving index of datagridview, the first number is cell number, second one is row number! Remember it!

Hope this might help you.

pyplot scatter plot marker size

It is the area of the marker. I mean if you have s1 = 1000 and then s2 = 4000, the relation between the radius of each circle is: r_s2 = 2 * r_s1. See the following plot:

plt.scatter(2, 1, s=4000, c='r')
plt.scatter(2, 1, s=1000 ,c='b')
plt.scatter(2, 1, s=10, c='g')

enter image description here

I had the same doubt when I saw the post, so I did this example then I used a ruler on the screen to measure the radii.

How to execute two mysql queries as one in PHP/MYSQL?

Using SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS you can't.

The row count available through FOUND_ROWS() is transient and not intended to be available past the statement following the SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS statement.

As someone noted in your earlier question, using SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS is frequently slower than just getting a count.

Perhaps you'd be best off doing this as as subquery:

SELECT
 (select count(*) from my_table WHERE Name LIKE '%prashant%')
as total_rows,
Id, Name FROM my_table WHERE Name LIKE '%prashant%' LIMIT 0, 10;

Colspan all columns

Just use this:

colspan="100%"

It works on Firefox 3.6, IE 7 and Opera 11! (and I guess on others, I couldn't try)

Warning: as mentioned in the comments below this is actually the same as colspan="100". Hence, this solution will break for tables with css table-layout: fixed, or more than 100 columns.

How to 'bulk update' with Django?

If you want to set the same value on a collection of rows, you can use the update() method combined with any query term to update all rows in one query:

some_list = ModelClass.objects.filter(some condition).values('id')
ModelClass.objects.filter(pk__in=some_list).update(foo=bar)

If you want to update a collection of rows with different values depending on some condition, you can in best case batch the updates according to values. Let's say you have 1000 rows where you want to set a column to one of X values, then you could prepare the batches beforehand and then only run X update-queries (each essentially having the form of the first example above) + the initial SELECT-query.

If every row requires a unique value there is no way to avoid one query per update. Perhaps look into other architectures like CQRS/Event sourcing if you need performance in this latter case.

No internet on Android emulator - why and how to fix?

I have searched long and hard for an answer to this question. From what I gather Google did that on purpose once people used the internet connection to add spam comments to the market. However, I did find a guy who had done it and was willing to share the required images. The linked AVD runs(for me) both the market and browser internet.

NOTE: It looks like it's just going to fix the market. But the market won't run without internet, so if the market is fixed, the browser internet will work too. I downloaded the linked files myself and it showed the internet in the browser perfectly.

Jupyter/IPython Notebooks: Shortcut for "run all"?

I've been trying to do this in Jupyter Lab so thought it might be useful to post the answer here. You can find the shortcuts in settings and also add your own, where a full list of the possible shortcuts can be found here.

For example, I added my own shortcut to run all cells. In Jupyter Lab, under Settings > Advanced Settings, select Keyboard Shortcuts, then add the following code to 'User Overrides':

{
    "notebook:run-all-cells": {
      "command": "notebook:run-all-cells",
      "keys": [
        "Shift Backspace"
      ],
      "selector": ".jp-Notebook.jp-mod-editMode"
    }
}

Here, Shift + Backspace will run all cells in the notebook.

Fill remaining vertical space with CSS using display:flex

Here is the codepen demo showing the solution:

Important highlights:

  • all containers from html, body, ... .container, should have the height set to 100%
  • introducing flex to ANY of the flex items will trigger calculation of the items sizes based on flex distribution:
    • if only one cell is set to flex, for example: flex: 1 then this flex item will occupy the remaining of the space
    • if there are more than one with the flex property, the calculation will be more complicated. For example, if the item 1 is set to flex: 1 and the item 2 is se to flex: 2 then the item 2 will take twice more of the remaining space
  • Main Size Property

Extract Data from PDF and Add to Worksheet

Over time, I have found that extracting text from PDFs in a structured format is tough business. However if you are looking for an easy solution, you might want to consider XPDF tool pdftotext.

Pseudocode to extract the text would include:

  1. Using SHELL VBA statement to extract the text from PDF to a temporary file using XPDF
  2. Using sequential file read statements to read the temporary file contents into a string
  3. Pasting the string into Excel

Simplified example below:

    Sub ReadIntoExcel(PDFName As String)
        'Convert PDF to text
        Shell "C:\Utils\pdftotext.exe -layout " & PDFName & " tempfile.txt"

        'Read in the text file and write to Excel
        Dim TextLine as String
        Dim RowNumber as Integer
        Dim F1 as Integer
        RowNumber = 1
        F1 = Freefile()
        Open "tempfile.txt" for Input as #F1
            While Not EOF(#F1)
                Line Input #F1, TextLine
                ThisWorkbook.WorkSheets(1).Cells(RowNumber, 1).Value = TextLine
                RowNumber = RowNumber + 1
            Wend
        Close #F1

How to check if an array value exists?

You can test whether an array has a certain element at all or not with isset() or sometimes even better array_key_exists() (the documentation explains the differences). If you can't be sure if the array has an element with the index 'say' you should test that first or you might get 'warning: undefined index....' messages.

As for the test whether the element's value is equal to a string you can use == or (again sometimes better) the identity operator === which doesn't allow type juggling.

if( isset($something['say']) && 'bla'===$something['say'] ) {
  // ...
}

Android - SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE spans cannot have a zero length

I have faced the same issue. I almost wasted almost couple of weeks to resolved this issue. Finally I had on doubt on myself and tried to create another project by copy and paste some startup files like SplashScreen & LoginScreen.

But with the same code still i was getting SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE.

Then i have removed the handler code from splash screen and tried again and Wow its working. I am not getting SPAN_EXCLUSIVE_EXCLUSIVE issue in logcat.

I wondering, why it is? till the time did not get any other solution but by removing handler from splash screen it is working.

Try and update here if it is resolved or not.

What is the best/simplest way to read in an XML file in Java application?

Is there a particular reason you have chosen XML config files? I have done XML configs in the past, and they have often turned out to be more of a headache than anything else.

I guess the real question is whether using something like the Preferences API might work better in your situation.

Reasons to use the Preferences API over a roll-your-own XML solution:

  • Avoids typical XML ugliness (DocumentFactory, etc), along with avoiding 3rd party libraries to provide the XML backend

  • Built in support for default values (no special handling required for missing/corrupt/invalid entries)

  • No need to sanitize values for XML storage (CDATA wrapping, etc)

  • Guaranteed status of the backing store (no need to constantly write XML out to disk)

  • Backing store is configurable (file on disk, LDAP, etc.)

  • Multi-threaded access to all preferences for free

List files in local git repo?

git ls-tree --full-tree -r HEAD and git ls-files return all files at once. For a large project with hundreds or thousands of files, and if you are interested in a particular file/directory, you may find more convenient to explore specific directories. You can do it by obtaining the ID/SHA-1 of the directory that you want to explore and then use git cat-file -p [ID/SHA-1 of directory]. For example:

git cat-file -p 14032aabd85b43a058cfc7025dd4fa9dd325ea97
100644 blob b93a4953fff68df523aa7656497ee339d6026d64    glyphicons-halflings-regular.eot
100644 blob 94fb5490a2ed10b2c69a4a567a4fd2e4f706d841    glyphicons-halflings-regular.svg
100644 blob 1413fc609ab6f21774de0cb7e01360095584f65b    glyphicons-halflings-regular.ttf
100644 blob 9e612858f802245ddcbf59788a0db942224bab35    glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff
100644 blob 64539b54c3751a6d9adb44c8e3a45ba5a73b77f0    glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff2

In the example above, 14032aabd85b43a058cfc7025dd4fa9dd325ea97 is the ID/SHA-1 of the directory that I wanted to explore. In this case, the result was that four files within that directory were being tracked by my Git repo. If the directory had additional files, it would mean those extra files were not being tracked. You can add files using git add <file>... of course.

How to add elements of a Java8 stream into an existing List

Lets say we have existing list, and gonna use java 8 for this activity `

import java.util.*;
import java.util.stream.Collectors;

public class AddingArray {

    public void addArrayInList(){
        List<Integer> list = Arrays.asList(3, 7, 9);

   // And we have an array of Integer type

        int nums[] = {4, 6, 7};

   //Now lets add them all in list
   // converting array to a list through stream and adding that list to previous list
        list.addAll(Arrays.stream(nums).map(num ->
                                       num).boxed().collect(Collectors.toList()));
     }
}

`

Java 8 LocalDate Jackson format

As of 2020 and Jackson 2.10.1 there's no need for any special code, it's just a matter of telling Jackson what you want:

ObjectMapper objectMapper = new ObjectMapper();

// Register module that knows how to serialize java.time objects
// Provided by jackson-datatype-jsr310
objectMapper.registerModule(new JavaTimeModule());

// Ask Jackson to serialize dates as String (ISO-8601 by default)
objectMapper.disable(SerializationFeature.WRITE_DATES_AS_TIMESTAMPS);

This has already been mentioned in this answer, I'm adding a unit test verifying the functionality:

import com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.JsonFormat;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.core.JsonProcessingException;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.SerializationFeature;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.datatype.jsr310.JavaTimeModule;
import lombok.Data;
import org.junit.jupiter.api.Test;

import java.time.LocalDate;

import static org.junit.jupiter.api.Assertions.assertEquals;

public class LocalDateSerializationTest {

    @Data
    static class TestBean {
        // Accept default ISO-8601 format
        LocalDate birthDate;
        // Use custom format
        @JsonFormat(shape = JsonFormat.Shape.STRING, pattern = "dd/MM/yyyy")
        LocalDate birthDateWithCustomFormat;
    }

    @Test
    void serializeDeserializeTest() throws JsonProcessingException {
        ObjectMapper objectMapper = new ObjectMapper();

        // Register module that knows how to serialize java.time objects
        objectMapper.registerModule(new JavaTimeModule());

        // Ask Jackson to serialize dates as String (ISO-8601 by default)
        objectMapper.disable(SerializationFeature.WRITE_DATES_AS_TIMESTAMPS);

        // The JSON string after serialization
        String json = "{\"birthDate\":\"2000-01-02\",\"birthDateWithCustomFormat\":\"03/02/2001\"}";

        // The object after deserialization
        TestBean object = new TestBean();
        object.setBirthDate(LocalDate.of(2000, 1, 2));
        object.setBirthDateWithCustomFormat(LocalDate.of(2001, 2, 3));

        // Assert serialization
        assertEquals(json, objectMapper.writeValueAsString(object));

        // Assert deserialization
        assertEquals(object, objectMapper.readValue(json, TestBean.class));
    }
}

TestBean uses Lombok to generate the boilerplate for the bean.

Can an int be null in Java?

A great way to find out:

}

Try to compile.

How can I save an image with PIL?

I know that this is old, but I've found that (while using Pillow) opening the file by using open(fp, 'w') and then saving the file will work. E.g:

with open(fp, 'w') as f:
    result.save(f)

fp being the file path, of course.

Best way to save a trained model in PyTorch?

If you want to save the model and wants to resume the training later:

Single GPU: Save:

state = {
        'epoch': epoch,
        'state_dict': model.state_dict(),
        'optimizer': optimizer.state_dict(),
}
savepath='checkpoint.t7'
torch.save(state,savepath)

Load:

checkpoint = torch.load('checkpoint.t7')
model.load_state_dict(checkpoint['state_dict'])
optimizer.load_state_dict(checkpoint['optimizer'])
epoch = checkpoint['epoch']

Multiple GPU: Save

state = {
        'epoch': epoch,
        'state_dict': model.module.state_dict(),
        'optimizer': optimizer.state_dict(),
}
savepath='checkpoint.t7'
torch.save(state,savepath)

Load:

checkpoint = torch.load('checkpoint.t7')
model.load_state_dict(checkpoint['state_dict'])
optimizer.load_state_dict(checkpoint['optimizer'])
epoch = checkpoint['epoch']

#Don't call DataParallel before loading the model otherwise you will get an error

model = nn.DataParallel(model) #ignore the line if you want to load on Single GPU

ggplot geom_text font size control

Here are a few options for changing text / label sizes

library(ggplot2)

# Example data using mtcars

a <- aggregate(mpg ~ vs + am , mtcars, function(i) round(mean(i)))

p <- ggplot(mtcars, aes(factor(vs), y=mpg, fill=factor(am))) +
            geom_bar(stat="identity",position="dodge") +
            geom_text(data = a, aes(label = mpg),
                            position = position_dodge(width=0.9),  size=20)

The size in the geom_text changes the size of the geom_text labels.

p <- p + theme(axis.text = element_text(size = 15)) # changes axis labels

p <- p + theme(axis.title = element_text(size = 25)) # change axis titles

p <- p + theme(text = element_text(size = 10)) # this will change all text size
                                                             # (except geom_text)

For this And why size of 10 in geom_text() is different from that in theme(text=element_text()) ?

Yes, they are different. I did a quick manual check and they appear to be in the ratio of ~ (14/5) for geom_text sizes to theme sizes.

So a horrible fix for uniform sizes is to scale by this ratio

geom.text.size = 7
theme.size = (14/5) * geom.text.size

ggplot(mtcars, aes(factor(vs), y=mpg, fill=factor(am))) +
  geom_bar(stat="identity",position="dodge") +
  geom_text(data = a, aes(label = mpg),
            position = position_dodge(width=0.9),  size=geom.text.size) +
  theme(axis.text = element_text(size = theme.size, colour="black"))

This of course doesn't explain why? and is a pita (and i assume there is a more sensible way to do this)

Pass variables between two PHP pages without using a form or the URL of page

Sessions would be good choice for you. Take a look at these two examples from PHP Manual:

Code of page1.php

<?php
// page1.php

session_start();

echo 'Welcome to page #1';

$_SESSION['favcolor'] = 'green';
$_SESSION['animal']   = 'cat';
$_SESSION['time']     = time();

// Works if session cookie was accepted
echo '<br /><a href="page2.php">page 2</a>';

// Or pass along the session id, if needed
echo '<br /><a href="page2.php?' . SID . '">page 2</a>';
?>

Code of page2.php

<?php
// page2.php

session_start();

echo 'Welcome to page #2<br />';

echo $_SESSION['favcolor']; // green
echo $_SESSION['animal'];   // cat
echo date('Y m d H:i:s', $_SESSION['time']);

// You may want to use SID here, like we did in page1.php
echo '<br /><a href="page1.php">page 1</a>';
?>

To clear up things - SID is PHP's predefined constant which contains session name and its id. Example SID value:

PHPSESSID=d78d0851898450eb6aa1e6b1d2a484f1

JavaScript set object key by variable

You need to make the object first, then use [] to set it.

var key = "happyCount";
var obj = {};
obj[key] = someValueArray;
myArray.push(obj);

UPDATE 2018:

If you're able to use ES6 and Babel, you can use this new feature:

{
    [yourKeyVariable]: someValueArray,
}

Angular 2 Cannot find control with unspecified name attribute on formArrays

In my case I solved the issue by putting the name of the formControl in double and sinlge quotes so that it is interpreted as a string:

[formControlName]="'familyName'"

similar to below:

formControlName="familyName"

Building with Lombok's @Slf4j and Intellij: Cannot find symbol log

So if the issue persists even after enabling the annotation processing and installing the Lombok plugin.

There's an issue with IDEA 2020.3 and Lombok, you could fix this by following this fix.

basically, add -Djps.track.ap.dependencies=false to the VM options, you can find it in: Preferences -> Compiler. Named 'Shared build process VM Options'

how to measure running time of algorithms in python

For small algorithms you can use the module timeit from python documentation:

def test():
    "Stupid test function"
    L = []
    for i in range(100):
        L.append(i)

if __name__=='__main__':
    from timeit import Timer
    t = Timer("test()", "from __main__ import test")
    print t.timeit()

Less accurately but still valid you can use module time like this:

from time import time
t0 = time()
call_mifuntion_vers_1()
t1 = time()
call_mifunction_vers_2()
t2 = time()

print 'function vers1 takes %f' %(t1-t0)
print 'function vers2 takes %f' %(t2-t1)

The FastCGI process exited unexpectedly

In my case I had wrong constellation of configurations:

  • error reporting disabled
  • typo error in the configuration

After enabling the error_reporting it was clear the session_path was pointed to a wrong folder.

Git: Find the most recent common ancestor of two branches

git diff master...feature

shows all the new commits of your current (possibly multi-commit) feature branch.

man git-diff documents that:

git diff A...B

is the same as:

git diff $(git merge-base A B) B

but the ... is easier to type and remember.

As mentioned by Dave, the special case of HEAD can be omitted. So:

git diff master...HEAD

is the same as:

git diff master...

which is enough if the current branch is feature.

Finally, remember that order matters! Doing git diff feature...master will show changes that are on master not on feature.

I wish more git commands would support that syntax, but I don't think they do. And some even have different semantics for ...: What are the differences between double-dot ".." and triple-dot "..." in Git commit ranges?

How to include duplicate keys in HashMap?

Use Map<Integer, List<String>>:

release Selenium chromedriver.exe from memory

I know this is somewhat of an old question, but I thought I'd share what worked for me. I was having problems with Eclipse -- it wouldn't kill the processes, and so I had a bunch of phantom processes hanging around after testing the code using the Eclipse runner.

My solution was to run Eclipse as administrator. That fixed it for me. Seems that Windows wasn't permitting Eclipse to close the process it spawned.

You might be better off using os.walk() for this.

I had the same problem. I lost hours, then I saw that version of node.js installed was 0.8. But I downloaded and installed version 0.10 from node.js website.

I downloaded and installed again, and now version is 0.10. Result: PhoneGap has been sucessfully installed with this version.

Converting string to integer

The function you need is CInt.

ie CInt(PrinterLabel)

See Type Conversion Functions (Visual Basic) on MSDN

Edit: Be aware that CInt and its relatives behave differently in VB.net and VBScript. For example, in VB.net, CInt casts to a 32-bit integer, but in VBScript, CInt casts to a 16-bit integer. Be on the lookout for potential overflows!

Strings as Primary Keys in SQL Database

Strings are slower in joins and in real life they are very rarely really unique (even when they are supposed to be). The only advantage is that they can reduce the number of joins if you are joining to the primary table only to get the name. However, strings are also often subject to change thus creating the problem of having to fix all related records when the company name changes or the person gets married. This can be a huge performance hit and if all tables that should be related somehow are not related (this happens more often than you think), then you might have data mismatches as well. An integer that will never change through the life of the record is a far safer choice from a data integrity standpoint as well as from a performance standpoint. Natural keys are usually not so good for maintenance of the data.

I also want to point out that the best of both worlds is often to use an autoincrementing key (or in some specialized cases, a GUID) as the PK and then put a unique index on the natural key. You get the faster joins, you don;t get duplicate records, and you don't have to update a million child records because a company name changed.

How to iterate over a column vector in Matlab?

In Matlab, you can iterate over the elements in the list directly. This can be useful if you don't need to know which element you're currently working on.

Thus you can write

for elm = list
%# do something with the element
end

Note that Matlab iterates through the columns of list, so if list is a nx1 vector, you may want to transpose it.

How to check if a table exists in a given schema

It depends on what you want to test exactly.

Information schema?

To find "whether the table exists" (no matter who's asking), querying the information schema (information_schema.tables) is incorrect, strictly speaking, because (per documentation):

Only those tables and views are shown that the current user has access to (by way of being the owner or having some privilege).

The query provided by @kong can return FALSE, but the table can still exist. It answers the question:

How to check whether a table (or view) exists, and the current user has access to it?

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM information_schema.tables
   WHERE  table_schema = 'schema_name'
   AND    table_name   = 'table_name'
   );

The information schema is mainly useful to stay portable across major versions and across different RDBMS. But the implementation is slow, because Postgres has to use sophisticated views to comply to the standard (information_schema.tables is a rather simple example). And some information (like OIDs) gets lost in translation from the system catalogs - which actually carry all information.

System catalogs

Your question was:

How to check whether a table exists?

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM pg_catalog.pg_class c
   JOIN   pg_catalog.pg_namespace n ON n.oid = c.relnamespace
   WHERE  n.nspname = 'schema_name'
   AND    c.relname = 'table_name'
   AND    c.relkind = 'r'    -- only tables
   );

Use the system catalogs pg_class and pg_namespace directly, which is also considerably faster. However, per documentation on pg_class:

The catalog pg_class catalogs tables and most everything else that has columns or is otherwise similar to a table. This includes indexes (but see also pg_index), sequences, views, materialized views, composite types, and TOAST tables;

For this particular question you can also use the system view pg_tables. A bit simpler and more portable across major Postgres versions (which is hardly of concern for this basic query):

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM pg_tables
   WHERE  schemaname = 'schema_name'
   AND    tablename  = 'table_name'
   );

Identifiers have to be unique among all objects mentioned above. If you want to ask:

How to check whether a name for a table or similar object in a given schema is taken?

SELECT EXISTS (
   SELECT FROM pg_catalog.pg_class c
   JOIN   pg_catalog.pg_namespace n ON n.oid = c.relnamespace
   WHERE  n.nspname = 'schema_name'
   AND    c.relname = 'table_name'
   );

Alternative: cast to regclass

SELECT 'schema_name.table_name'::regclass

This raises an exception if the (optionally schema-qualified) table (or other object occupying that name) does not exist.

If you do not schema-qualify the table name, a cast to regclass defaults to the search_path and returns the OID for the first table found - or an exception if the table is in none of the listed schemas. Note that the system schemas pg_catalog and pg_temp (the schema for temporary objects of the current session) are automatically part of the search_path.

You can use that and catch a possible exception in a function. Example:

A query like above avoids possible exceptions and is therefore slightly faster.

to_regclass(rel_name) in Postgres 9.4+

Much simpler now:

SELECT to_regclass('schema_name.table_name');

Same as the cast, but it returns ...

... null rather than throwing an error if the name is not found

Serving favicon.ico in ASP.NET MVC

I think that favicon.ico should be in root folder. It just belongs there.

If you want to servere diferent icons - put it into controler. You can do that. If not - just leave it in the root folder.

Run script with rc.local: script works, but not at boot

if you are using linux on cloud, then usually you don't have chance to touch the real hardware using your hands. so you don't see the configuration interface when booting for the first time, and of course cannot configure it. As a result, the firstboot service will always be in the way to rc.local. The solution is to disable firstboot by doing:

sudo chkconfig firstboot off

if you are not sure why your rc.local does not run, you can always check from /etc/rc.d/rc file because this file will always run and call other subsystems (e.g. rc.local).

How do I replace NA values with zeros in an R dataframe?

The cleaner package has an na_replace() generic, that at default replaces numeric values with zeroes, logicals with FALSE, dates with today, etc.:

starwars %>% na_replace()
na_replace(starwars)

It even supports vectorised replacements:

mtcars[1:6, c("mpg", "hp")] <- NA
na_replace(mtcars, mpg, hp, replacement = c(999, 123))

Documentation: https://msberends.github.io/cleaner/reference/na_replace.html

Function to Calculate a CRC16 Checksum

There are several details you need to 'match up' with for a particular CRC implementation - even using the same polynomial there can be different results because of minor differences in how data bits are handled, using a particular initial value for the CRC (sometimes it's zero, sometimes 0xffff), and/or inverting the bits of the CRC. For example, sometimes one implementation will work from the low order bits of the data bytes up, while sometimes they'll work from the high order bits down (as yours currently does).

Also, you need to 'push out' the last bits of the CRC after you've run all the data bits through.

Keep in mind that CRC algorithms were designed to be implemented in hardware, so some of how bit ordering is handled may not make so much sense from a software point of view.

If you want to match the CRC16 with polynomial 0x8005 as shown on the lammertbies.nl CRC calculator page, you need to make the following changes to your CRC function:

  • a) run the data bits through the CRC loop starting from the least significant bit instead of from the most significant bit
  • b) push the last 16 bits of the CRC out of the CRC register after you've finished with the input data
  • c) reverse the CRC bits (I'm guessing this bit is a carry over from hardware implementations)

So, your function might look like:

#define CRC16 0x8005

uint16_t gen_crc16(const uint8_t *data, uint16_t size)
{
    uint16_t out = 0;
    int bits_read = 0, bit_flag;

    /* Sanity check: */
    if(data == NULL)
        return 0;

    while(size > 0)
    {
        bit_flag = out >> 15;

        /* Get next bit: */
        out <<= 1;
        out |= (*data >> bits_read) & 1; // item a) work from the least significant bits

        /* Increment bit counter: */
        bits_read++;
        if(bits_read > 7)
        {
            bits_read = 0;
            data++;
            size--;
        }

        /* Cycle check: */
        if(bit_flag)
            out ^= CRC16;

    }

    // item b) "push out" the last 16 bits
    int i;
    for (i = 0; i < 16; ++i) {
        bit_flag = out >> 15;
        out <<= 1;
        if(bit_flag)
            out ^= CRC16;
    }

    // item c) reverse the bits
    uint16_t crc = 0;
    i = 0x8000;
    int j = 0x0001;
    for (; i != 0; i >>=1, j <<= 1) {
        if (i & out) crc |= j;
    }

    return crc;
}

That function returns 0xbb3d for me when I pass in "123456789".

How to position one element relative to another with jQuery?

NOTE: This requires jQuery UI (not just jQuery).

You can now use:

$("#my_div").position({

Java Map equivalent in C#

You can index Dictionary, you didn't need 'get'.

Dictionary<string,string> example = new Dictionary<string,string>();
...
example.Add("hello","world");
...
Console.Writeline(example["hello"]);

An efficient way to test/get values is TryGetValue (thanx to Earwicker):

if (otherExample.TryGetValue("key", out value))
{
    otherExample["key"] = value + 1;
}

With this method you can fast and exception-less get values (if present).

How to insert special characters into a database?

Note that as others have pointed out mysql_real_escape_string() will solve the problem (as will addslashes), however you should always use mysql_real_escape_string() for security reasons - consider:

SELECT * FROM valid_users WHERE username='$user' AND password='$password'

What if the browser sends

user="admin' OR (user=''"
password="') AND ''='"

The query becomes:

SELECT * FROM valid_users
WHERE username='admin' OR (user='' AND password='') AND ''=''

i.e. the security checks are completely bypassed.

Creating a BLOB from a Base64 string in JavaScript

If you can stand adding one dependency to your project there's the great blob-util npm package that provides a handy base64StringToBlob function. Once added to your package.json you can use it like this:

import { base64StringToBlob } from 'blob-util';

const contentType = 'image/png';
const b64Data = 'iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAUAAAAFCAYAAACNbyblAAAAHElEQVQI12P4//8/w38GIAXDIBKE0DHxgljNBAAO9TXL0Y4OHwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==';

const blob = base64StringToBlob(b64Data, contentType);

// Do whatever you need with your blob...

Query based on multiple where clauses in Firebase

I've written a personal library that allows you to order by multiple values, with all the ordering done on the server.

Meet Querybase!

Querybase takes in a Firebase Database Reference and an array of fields you wish to index on. When you create new records it will automatically handle the generation of keys that allow for multiple querying. The caveat is that it only supports straight equivalence (no less than or greater than).

const databaseRef = firebase.database().ref().child('people');
const querybaseRef = querybase.ref(databaseRef, ['name', 'age', 'location']);

// Automatically handles composite keys
querybaseRef.push({
  name: 'David',
  age: 27,
  location: 'SF'
});

// Find records by multiple fields
// returns a Firebase Database ref
const queriedDbRef = querybaseRef
 .where({
   name: 'David',
   age: 27
 });

// Listen for realtime updates
queriedDbRef.on('value', snap => console.log(snap));

What are the differences between NP, NP-Complete and NP-Hard?

I've been looking around and seeing many long explanations. Here is a small chart that may be useful to summarise:

Notice how difficulty increases top to bottom: any NP can be reduced to NP-Complete, and any NP-Complete can be reduced to NP-Hard, all in P (polynomial) time.

If you can solve a more difficult class of problem in P time, that will mean you found how to solve all easier problems in P time (for example, proving P = NP, if you figure out how to solve any NP-Complete problem in P time).

____________________________________________________________
| Problem Type | Verifiable in P time | Solvable in P time | Increasing Difficulty
___________________________________________________________|           |
| P            |        Yes           |        Yes         |           |
| NP           |        Yes           |     Yes or No *    |           |
| NP-Complete  |        Yes           |      Unknown       |           |
| NP-Hard      |     Yes or No **     |      Unknown ***   |           |
____________________________________________________________           V

Notes on Yes or No entries:

  • * An NP problem that is also P is solvable in P time.
  • ** An NP-Hard problem that is also NP-Complete is verifiable in P time.
  • *** NP-Complete problems (all of which form a subset of NP-hard) might be. The rest of NP hard is not.

I also found this diagram quite useful in seeing how all these types correspond to each other (pay more attention to the left half of the diagram).

How to set Spinner Default by its Value instead of Position?

this is how i did it:

String[] listAges = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.ages);

        // Creating adapter for spinner
        ArrayAdapter<String> dataAdapter =
                new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, listAges);

        // Drop down layout style - list view with radio button
        dataAdapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item);

        // attaching data adapter to spinner
        spinner_age.getBackground().setColorFilter(ContextCompat.getColor(this, R.color.spinner_icon), PorterDuff.Mode.SRC_ATOP);
        spinner_age.setAdapter(dataAdapter);
        spinner_age.setSelection(0);
        spinner_age.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
                String item = parent.getItemAtPosition(position).toString();

                if(position > 0){
                    // get spinner value
                    Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "Age..." + item, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                }else{
                    // show toast select gender
                    Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "none" + item, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                }
            }
            @Override
            public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parent) {
            }
        });

Why are C# 4 optional parameters defined on interface not enforced on implementing class?

Optional parameters are kind of like a macro substitution from what I understand. They are not really optional from the method's point of view. An artifact of that is the behavior you see where you get different results if you cast to an interface.

php $_POST array empty upon form submission

I've found that when posting from HTTP to HTTPS, the $_POST comes empty. This happened while testing the form, but took me a while until I realize that.

How to find Max Date in List<Object>?

troubleshooting-friendly style

You should not call .get() directly. Optional<>, that Stream::max returns, was designed to benefit from .orElse... inline handling.

If you are sure your arguments have their size of 2+:

list.stream()
    .map(u -> u.date)
    .max(Date::compareTo)
    .orElseThrow(() -> new IllegalArgumentException("Expected 'list' to be of size: >= 2. Was: 0"));

If you support empty lists, then return some default value, for example:

list.stream()
    .map(u -> u.date)
    .max(Date::compareTo)
    .orElse(new Date(Long.MIN_VALUE));

Recording video feed from an IP camera over a network

Why don't you consider www.cameraftp.com? it supports image upload and online viewer

Why is there an unexplainable gap between these inline-block div elements?

Found a solution not involving Flex, because Flex doesn't work in older Browsers. Example:

.container {
    display:block;
    position:relative;
    height:150px;
    width:1024px;
    margin:0 auto;
    padding:0px;
    border:0px;
    background:#ececec;
    margin-bottom:10px;
    text-align:justify;
    box-sizing:border-box;
    white-space:nowrap;
    font-size:0pt;
    letter-spacing:-1em;
}

.cols {
    display:inline-block;
    position:relative;
    width:32%;
    height:100%;
    margin:0 auto;
    margin-right:2%;
    border:0px;
    background:lightgreen;
    box-sizing:border-box;
    padding:10px;
    font-size:10pt;
    letter-spacing:normal;
}

.cols:last-child {
    margin-right:0;
}

How to make a Bootstrap accordion collapse when clicking the header div?

Simple solution would be to remove padding from .panel-heading and add to .panel-title a.

.panel-heading {
    padding: 0;
}
.panel-title a {
    display: block;
    padding: 10px 15px;
}

This solution is similar to the above one posted by calfzhou, slightly different.

Calling a method inside another method in same class

Recursion is a method that call itself. In this case it is a recursion. However it will be overloading until you put a restriction inside the method to stop the loop (if-condition).

Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid or unexpected token

I also had an issue with multiline strings in this scenario. @Iman's backtick(`) solution worked great in the modern browsers but caused an invalid character error in Internet Explorer. I had to use the following:

'@item.MultiLineString.Replace(Environment.NewLine, "<br />")'

Then I had to put the carriage returns back again in the js function. Had to use RegEx to handle multiple carriage returns.

// This will work for the following:
// "hello\nworld"
// "hello<br>world"
// "hello<br />world"
$("#MyTextArea").val(multiLineString.replace(/\n|<br\s*\/?>/gi, "\r"));

VB.NET - If string contains "value1" or "value2"

Interestingly, this solution can break, but a workaround: Looking for my database called KeyWorks.accdb which must exist:

Run this:

Dim strDataPath As String = GetSetting("KeyWorks", "dataPath", "01", "") 'get from registry

If Not strDataPath.Contains("KeyWorks.accdb") Then....etc.

If my database is named KeyWorksBB.accdb, the If statement will find this acceptable and exit the If statement because it did indeed find KeyWorks and accdb.

If I surround the If statement qualifier with single quotes like 'KeyWorks.accdb', it now looks for all the consecutive characters in order and would enter the If block because it did not match.

Java 8 NullPointerException in Collectors.toMap

You can work around this known bug in OpenJDK with this:

Map<Integer, Boolean> collect = list.stream()
        .collect(HashMap::new, (m,v)->m.put(v.getId(), v.getAnswer()), HashMap::putAll);

It is not that much pretty, but it works. Result:

1: true
2: true
3: null

(this tutorial helped me the most.)

EDIT:

Unlike Collectors.toMap, this will silently replace values if you have the same key multiple times, as @mmdemirbas pointed out in the comments. If you don't want this, look at the link in the comment.

Read large files in Java

You can consider using memory-mapped files, via FileChannels .

Generally a lot faster for large files. There are performance trade-offs that could make it slower, so YMMV.

Rails: How to list database tables/objects using the Rails console?

To get a list of all model classes, you can use ActiveRecord::Base.subclasses e.g.

ActiveRecord::Base.subclasses.map { |cl| cl.name }
ActiveRecord::Base.subclasses.find { |cl| cl.name == "Foo" }
