To be totally exhaustive, things are different if you're using a JPA 1.0 or a JPA 2.0 implementation.

JPA 1.0

With JPA 1.0, you'd have to use EntityManager#getDelegate(). But keep in mind that the result of this method is implementation specific i.e. non portable from application server using Hibernate to the other. For example with JBoss you would do:

org.hibernate.Session session = (Session) manager.getDelegate();

But with GlassFish, you'd have to do:

org.hibernate.Session session = ((org.hibernate.ejb.EntityManagerImpl) em.getDelegate()).getSession(); 

I agree, that's horrible, and the spec is to blame here (not clear enough).

JPA 2.0

With JPA 2.0, there is a new (and much better) EntityManager#unwrap(Class<T>) method that is to be preferred over EntityManager#getDelegate() for new applications.

So with Hibernate as JPA 2.0 implementation (see 3.15. Native Hibernate API), you would do:

Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);

The shared library soname? That's part of the filename, libstdc++.so.6, or shown by readelf -d /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 | grep soname.

The minor revision number? You should be able to get that by simply checking what the symlink points to:

$ ls -l  /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 19 Mar 23 09:43 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 -> libstdc++.so.6.0.16

That tells you it's 6.0.16, which is the 16th revision of the libstdc++.so.6 version, which corresponds to the GLIBCXX_3.4.16 symbol versions.

Or do you mean the release it comes from? It's part of GCC so it's the same version as GCC, so unless you've screwed up your system by installing unmatched versions of g++ and libstdc++.so you can get that from:

$ g++ -dumpversion
4.6.3

Or, on most distros, you can just ask the package manager. On my Fedora host that's

$ rpm -q libstdc++
libstdc++-4.6.3-2.fc16.x86_64
libstdc++-4.6.3-2.fc16.i686

XMLHttpRequest cannot load XXX No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header

This bug cost me 2 days. I checked my Server log, the Preflight Option request/response between browser Chrome/Edge and Server was ok. The main reason is that GET/POST/PUT/DELETE server response for XHTMLRequest must also have the following header:

access-control-allow-origin: origin  

"origin" is in the request header (Browser will add it to request for you). for example:

Origin: http://localhost:4221

you can add response header like the following to accept for all:

access-control-allow-origin: *  

or response header for a specific request like:

access-control-allow-origin: http://localhost:4221 

The message in browsers is not clear to understand: "...The requested resource"

note that: CORS works well for localhost. different port means different Domain. if you get error message, check the CORS config on the server side.

Actually there is no option to do that, if you want to uninstall packages from package.json simply do npm ls on the same directory that package.json relies and use npm uninstall <name> or npm rm <name> for the package you want to remove.

Creating temporary files in Android

For temporary internal files their are 2 options

1.

File file; 
file = File.createTempFile(filename, null, this.getCacheDir());

2.

Both options adds files in the applications cache directory and thus can be cleared to make space as required but option 1 will add a random number on the end of the filename to keep files unique. It will also add a file extension which is .tmp by default, but it can be set to anything via the use of the 2nd parameter. The use of the random number means despite specifying a filename it doesn't stay the same as the number is added along with the suffix/file extension (.tmp by default) e.g you specify your filename as internal_file and comes out as internal_file1456345.tmp. Whereas you can specify the extension you can't specify the number that is added. You can however find the filename it generates via file.getName();, but you would need to store it somewhere so you can use it whenever you wanted for example to delete or read the file. Therefore for this reason I prefer the 2nd option as the filename you specify is the filename that is created.

Pass a simple string from controller to a view MVC3

To pass a string to the view as the Model, you can do:

You must cast it to an object so that MVC doesn't try to load the string as the view name, but instead pass it as the model. You could also write:

Then you can manipulate Model how you want.

For accessing it from a Layout page, it might be better to create an HtmlExtension for this:

First, the foreignKeyCursor cursor is declared as the SELECT statement that gathers the list of foreign keys and their table names. Next, the cursor is opened and the initial FETCH statement is executed. This FETCH statement will read the first row's data into the local variables @foreignKeyName and @tableName. When looping through a cursor, you can check the @@FETCH_STATUS for a value of 0, which indicates that the fetch was successful. The command cdrecord --help outputs to stderr, so you need to pipe that indstead. You should also break up the command into a list of tokens as I've done below, or the alternative is to pass the shell=True argument but this fires up a fully-blown shell which can be dangerous if you don't control the contents of the command string.

SQL JOIN vs IN performance?

That's rather hard to say - in order to really find out which one works better, you'd need to actually profile the execution times.

As a general rule of thumb, I think if you have indices on your foreign key columns, and if you're using only (or mostly) INNER JOIN conditions, then the JOIN will be slightly faster.

But as soon as you start using OUTER JOIN, or if you're lacking foreign key indexes, the IN might be quicker.

I completely respect using Beautiful Soup to get rendered content, but it may not be the ideal package for acquiring the rendered content on a page.

I had a similar problem to get rendered content, or the visible content in a typical browser. In particular I had many perhaps atypical cases to work with such a simple example below. In this case the non displayable tag is nested in a style tag, and is not visible in many browsers that I have checked. Other variations exist such as defining a class tag setting display to none. Then using this class for the div.

This solution certainly has applications in many cases and does the job quite well generally but in the html posted above it retains the text that is not rendered. I tried both these solutions: html2text and nltk.clean_html and was surprised by the timing results so thought they warranted an answer for posterity. Of course, the speeds highly depend on the contents of the data...

One answer here from @Helge was about using nltk of all things.

To be able to advise on how you should do this I'd have to see the code you're currently using to read the XML.

The subprocess module has come along way since 2008. In particular check_call and check_output make simple subprocess stuff even easier. The check_* family of functions are nice it that they raise an exception if something goes wrong.

When a logical line of code is longer than the accepted limit, you need to split it over multiple physical lines. The Python interpreter will join consecutive lines if the last character of the line is a backslash. How to determine SSL cert expiration date from a PEM encoded certificate?

If you just want to know whether the certificate has expired (or will do so within the next N seconds), the -checkend <seconds> option to openssl x509 will tell you:

This saves having to do date/time comparisons yourself.

(Of course, it assumes the time/date is set correctly)

Be aware that older versions of openssl have a bug which means if the time specified in checkend is too large, 0 will always be returned (https://github.com/openssl/openssl/issues/6180).

Your Applicant class is not scanned it seems. By default all packages starting with the root as the class where you have put @SpringBootApplication will be scanned.

suppose your main class "WebServiceApplication" is in "com.service.something", then all components that fall under "com.service.something" is scanned, and "com.service.applicant" will not be scanned.

You can either restructure your packages such that "WebServiceApplication" falls under a root package and all other components becomes part of that root package. Or you can include @SpringBootApplication(scanBasePackages={"com.service.something","com.service.application"}) etc such that "ALL" components are scanned and initialized in the spring container.

Update based on comment

If you have multiple modules that are being managed by maven/gradle, all spring needs is the package to scan. You tell spring to scan "com.module1" and you have another module which has its root package name as "com.module2", those components wont be scanned. You can even tell spring to scan "com" which will then scan all components in "com.module1." and "com.module2."

Is it possible to animate scrollTop with jQuery?

I have what I believe is a better solution than the $('html, body') hack.

It's not a one-liner, but the issue I had with $('html, body') is that if you log $(window).scrollTop() during the animation, you'll see that the value jumps all over the place, sometimes by hundreds of pixels (though I don't see anything like that happening visually). I needed the value to be predictable, so that I could cancel the animation if the user grabbed the scroll bar or twirled the mousewheel during the auto-scroll.

Here is a function will animate scrolling smoothly:

R - argument is of length zero in if statement

"argument is of length zero" is a very specific problem that comes from one of my least-liked elements of R. Let me demonstrate the problem:

> NULL == "turnip"
logical(0)

As you can see, comparisons to a NULL not only don't produce a boolean value, they don't produce a value at all - and control flows tend to expect that a check will produce some kind of output. When they produce a zero-length output... "argument is of length zero".

(I have a very long rant about why this infuriates me so much. It can wait.)

So, my question; what's the output of sum(is.null(data[[k]]))? If it's not 0, you have NULL values embedded in your dataset and will need to either remove the relevant rows, or change the check to

Hopefully that helps; it's hard to tell without the entire dataset. If it doesn't help, and the problem is not a NULL value getting in somewhere, I'm afraid I have no idea.

The actual representation of a null pointer is irrelevant here. An integer literal with value zero (including 0 and any valid definition of NULL) can be converted to any pointer type, giving a null pointer, whatever the actual representation. So p != NULL, p != 0 and p are all valid tests for a non-null pointer.

You might run into problems with non-zero representations of the null pointer if you wrote something twisted like p != reinterpret_cast<void*>(0), so don't do that.

Although I've just noticed that your question is tagged C as well as C++. My answer refers to C++, and other languages may be different. Which language are you using?

docker cannot start on windows

I was getting same errors after an install on Windows 10. And I tried restarting but it did not work, so I did the following (do not recommend if you have been working in docker for awhile, this was on a fresh install):

1) Find the whale in your system tray, and right click

2) Go to settings > Reset

3) Reset to factory defaults

I was then able to follow the starting docker tutorial on the website with Windows 10, and now it works like a charm.

I had same issue with external libraries like ROS headers. I like to use following options in CMakeLists.txt for stricter compilation:

What finally got it working for me was to delete all the imports related to the notification functions. In particular the NotificationCompat and the TaskStackBuilder. It seems that while setting up my code in the beginning the imports where added from the newer build and not from the support package. Then when I wanted to implement these items later in eclipse, I wasn't prompted to import them again. Hope that makes sense, and that it helps someone else out :)

Storing C++ template function definitions in a .CPP file

None of above worked for me, so here is how y solved it, my class have only 1 method templated..

PrincipalContext for browsing the AD is ridiculously slow (only use it for .ValidateCredentials, see below), use DirectoryEntry instead and .PropertiesToLoad() so you only pay for what you need.

Including the header afxwin.h signalizes use of MFC. The following instructions (based on those on CodeProject.com) could help to get MFC code compiling:

  1. Download and install the Windows Driver Kit.

Product Version may be preferred if you're using versioning via GitVersion or other versioning software.

To get this from within your class library you can call System.Diagnostics.FileVersionInfo.ProductVersion:

What is the difference between a strongly typed language and a statically typed language?

Strong typing probably means that variables have a well-defined type and that there are strict rules about combining variables of different types in expressions. For example, if A is an integer and B is a float, then the strict rule about A+B might be that A is cast to a float and the result returned as a float. If A is an integer and B is a string, then the strict rule might be that A+B is not valid.

Static typing probably means that types are assigned at compile time (or its equivalent for non-compiled languages) and cannot change during program execution.

Note that these classifications are not mutually exclusive, indeed I would expect them to occur together frequently. Many strongly-typed languages are also statically-typed.

And note that when I use the word 'probably' it is because there are no universally accepted definitions of these terms. As you will already have seen from the answers so far.
