Programs & Examples On #Chunked encoding

Chunked encoding involves transferring the body of a message as a series of chunks, each with its own chunk size header.

Chrome net::ERR_INCOMPLETE_CHUNKED_ENCODING error

Here the problem was my Avast AV. As soon I disabled it, the problem was gone.

But, I really would like to understand the cause of this behavior.

String escape into XML

EDIT: You say "I am concatenating simple and short XML file and I do not use serialization, so I need to explicitly escape XML character by hand".

I would strongly advise you not to do it by hand. Use the XML APIs to do it all for you - read in the original files, merge the two into a single document however you need to (you probably want to use XmlDocument.ImportNode), and then write it out again. You don't want to write your own XML parsers/formatters. Serialization is somewhat irrelevant here.

If you can give us a short but complete example of exactly what you're trying to do, we can probably help you to avoid having to worry about escaping in the first place.

Original answer

It's not entirely clear what you mean, but normally XML APIs do this for you. You set the text in a node, and it will automatically escape anything it needs to. For example:

LINQ to XML example:

using System;
using System.Xml.Linq;

class Test
{
    static void Main()
    {
        XElement element = new XElement("tag",
                                        "Brackets & stuff <>");

        Console.WriteLine(element);
    }
}

DOM example:

using System;
using System.Xml;

class Test
{
    static void Main()
    {
        XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument();
        XmlElement element = doc.CreateElement("tag");
        element.InnerText = "Brackets & stuff <>";
        Console.WriteLine(element.OuterXml);
    }
}

Output from both examples:

<tag>Brackets &amp; stuff &lt;&gt;</tag>

That's assuming you want XML escaping, of course. If you're not, please post more details.

FirebaseInstanceIdService is deprecated

firebaser here

Check the reference documentation for FirebaseInstanceIdService:

This class was deprecated.

In favour of overriding onNewToken in FirebaseMessagingService. Once that has been implemented, this service can be safely removed.

Weirdly enough the JavaDoc for FirebaseMessagingService doesn't mention the onNewToken method yet. It looks like not all updated documentation has been published yet. I've filed an internal issue to get the updates to the reference docs published, and to get the samples in the guide updated too.

In the meantime both the old/deprecated calls, and the new ones should work. If you're having trouble with either, post the code and I'll have a look.

Is it possible to dynamically compile and execute C# code fragments?

To compile you could just initiate a shell call to the csc compiler. You may have a headache trying to keep your paths and switches straight but it certainly can be done.

Using PUT method in HTML form

To set methods PUT and DELETE I perform as following:

<form
  method="PUT"
  action="domain/route/param?query=value"
>
  <input type="hidden" name="delete_id" value="1" />
  <input type="hidden" name="put_id" value="1" />
  <input type="text" name="put_name" value="content_or_not" />
  <div>
    <button name="update_data">Save changes</button>
    <button name="remove_data">Remove</button>
  </div>
</form>
<hr>
<form
  method="DELETE"
  action="domain/route/param?query=value"
>
  <input type="hidden" name="delete_id" value="1" />
  <input type="text" name="delete_name" value="content_or_not" />
  <button name="delete_data">Remove item</button>
</form>

Then JS acts to perform the desired methods:

<script>
   var putMethod = ( event ) => {
     // Prevent redirection of Form Click
     event.preventDefault();
     var target = event.target;
     while ( target.tagName != "FORM" ) {
       target = target.parentElement;
     } // While the target is not te FORM tag, it looks for the parent element
     // The action attribute provides the request URL
     var url = target.getAttribute( "action" );

     // Collect Form Data by prefix "put_" on name attribute
     var bodyForm = target.querySelectorAll( "[name^=put_]");
     var body = {};
     bodyForm.forEach( element => {
       // I used split to separate prefix from worth name attribute
       var nameArray = element.getAttribute( "name" ).split( "_" );
       var name = nameArray[ nameArray.length - 1 ];
       if ( element.tagName != "TEXTAREA" ) {
         var value = element.getAttribute( "value" );
       } else {
       // if element is textarea, value attribute may return null or undefined
         var value = element.innerHTML;
       }
       // all elements with name="put_*" has value registered in body object
       body[ name ] = value;
     } );
     var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
     xhr.open( "PUT", url );
     xhr.setRequestHeader( "Content-Type", "application/json" );
     xhr.onload = () => {
       if ( xhr.status === 200 ) {
       // reload() uses cache, reload( true ) force no-cache. I reload the page to make "redirects normal effect" of HTML form when submit. You can manipulate DOM instead.
         location.reload( true );
       } else {
         console.log( xhr.status, xhr.responseText );
       }
     }
     xhr.send( body );
   }

   var deleteMethod = ( event ) => {
     event.preventDefault();
     var confirm = window.confirm( "Certeza em deletar este conteúdo?" );
     if ( confirm ) {
       var target = event.target;
       while ( target.tagName != "FORM" ) {
         target = target.parentElement;
       }
       var url = target.getAttribute( "action" );
       var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
       xhr.open( "DELETE", url );
       xhr.setRequestHeader( "Content-Type", "application/json" );
       xhr.onload = () => {
         if ( xhr.status === 200 ) {
           location.reload( true );
           console.log( xhr.responseText );
         } else {
           console.log( xhr.status, xhr.responseText );
         }
       }
       xhr.send();
     }
   }
</script>

With these functions defined, I add a event listener to the buttons which make the form method request:

<script>
  document.querySelectorAll( "[name=update_data], [name=delete_data]" ).forEach( element => {
    var button = element;
    var form = element;
    while ( form.tagName != "FORM" ) {
      form = form.parentElement;
    }
    var method = form.getAttribute( "method" );
    if ( method == "PUT" ) {
      button.addEventListener( "click", putMethod );
    }
    if ( method == "DELETE" ) {
      button.addEventListener( "click", deleteMethod );
    }
  } );
</script>

And for the remove button on the PUT form:

<script>
  document.querySelectorAll( "[name=remove_data]" ).forEach( element => {
    var button = element;
    button.addEventListener( "click", deleteMethod );
</script>

How can I remove file extension from a website address?

The problem with creating a directory and keeping index.php in it is that

  1. your links with menu will stop functioning
  2. There will be way too many directories. For eg, there will be a seperate directory for each and every question here on stackoverflow

The solutions are 1. MOD REWRITE (as suggested above) 2. use a php code to dynamically include other files in index file. Read a bit more abt it here http://inobscuro.com/tutorials/read/16/

Could not find a declaration file for module 'module-name'. '/path/to/module-name.js' implicitly has an 'any' type

This way works for me:

1. add your own declaration in a declaration file such as index.d.ts(maybe under the project root)
declare module 'Injector';
2. add your index.d.ts to tsconfig.json
  {
    "compilerOptions": {
        "strictNullChecks": true,
        "moduleResolution": "node",
        "jsx": "react",
        "noUnusedParameters": true,
        "noUnusedLocals": true,
        "allowSyntheticDefaultImports":true,
        "target": "es5",
        "module": "ES2015",
        "declaration": true,
        "outDir": "./lib",
        "noImplicitAny": true,
        "importHelpers": true
      },
      "include": [
        "src/**/*",
        "index.d.ts",   // declaration file path
      ],
      "compileOnSave": false
    }

How do I add a placeholder on a CharField in Django?

For a ModelForm, you can use the Meta class thus:

from django import forms

from .models import MyModel

class MyModelForm(forms.ModelForm):
    class Meta:
        model = MyModel
        widgets = {
            'name': forms.TextInput(attrs={'placeholder': 'Name'}),
            'description': forms.Textarea(
                attrs={'placeholder': 'Enter description here'}),
        }

Best practice for Django project working directory structure

Here is what I follow on My system.

  1. All Projects: There is a projects directory in my home folder i.e. ~/projects. All the projects rest inside it.

  2. Individual Project: I follow a standardized structure template used by many developers called django-skel for individual projects. It basically takes care of all your static file and media files and all.

  3. Virtual environment: I have a virtualenvs folder inside my home to store all virtual environments in the system i.e. ~/virtualenvs . This gives me flexibility that I know what all virtual environments I have and can look use easily

The above 3 are the main partitions of My working environment.

All the other parts you mentioned are mostly dependent on project to project basis (i.e. you might use different databases for different projects). So they should reside in their individual projects.

How to group subarrays by a column value?

It's trivial to do with LINQ, which is implemented in PHP in several libraries, including YaLinqo*. It allows performing SQL-like queries on arrays and objects. The groubBy function is designed specifically for grouping, you just need to specify the field you want to group by:

$grouped_array = from($array)->groupBy('$v["id"]')->toArray();

Where '$v["id"]' is a shorthand for function ($v) { return $v["id"]; } which this library supports.

The result will be exactly like in the accepted answer, just with less code.

reading text file with utf-8 encoding using java

I ran into the same problem every time it finds a special character marks it as ??. to solve this, I tried using the encoding: ISO-8859-1

BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("txtPath"),"ISO-8859-1"));

while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {

}

I hope this can help anyone who sees this post.

Escaping special characters in Java Regular Expressions

I wrote this pattern:

Pattern SPECIAL_REGEX_CHARS = Pattern.compile("[{}()\\[\\].+*?^$\\\\|]");

And use it in this method:

String escapeSpecialRegexChars(String str) {

    return SPECIAL_REGEX_CHARS.matcher(str).replaceAll("\\\\$0");
}

Then you can use it like this, for example:

Pattern toSafePattern(String text)
{
    return Pattern.compile(".*" + escapeSpecialRegexChars(text) + ".*");
}

We needed to do that because, after escaping, we add some regex expressions. If not, you can simply use \Q and \E:

Pattern toSafePattern(String text)
{
    return Pattern.compile(".*\\Q" + text + "\\E.*")
}

Hibernate Auto Increment ID

If you have a numeric column that you want to auto-increment, it might be an option to set columnDefinition directly. This has the advantage, that the schema auto-generates the value even if it is used without hibernate. This might make your code db-specific though:

import javax.persistence.Column;
@Column(columnDefinition = "serial") // postgresql

What is the best collation to use for MySQL with PHP?

Actually, you probably want to use utf8_unicode_ci or utf8_general_ci.

  • utf8_general_ci sorts by stripping away all accents and sorting as if it were ASCII
  • utf8_unicode_ci uses the Unicode sort order, so it sorts correctly in more languages

However, if you are only using this to store English text, these shouldn't differ.

How does the SQL injection from the "Bobby Tables" XKCD comic work?

Let's say the name was used in a variable, $Name.

You then run this query:

INSERT INTO Students VALUES ( '$Name' )

The code is mistakenly placing anything the user supplied as the variable.

You wanted the SQL to be:

INSERT INTO Students VALUES ( 'Robert Tables` )

But a clever user can supply whatever they want:

INSERT INTO Students VALUES ( 'Robert'); DROP TABLE Students; --' )

What you get is:

INSERT INTO Students VALUES ( 'Robert' ); DROP TABLE STUDENTS; --' )

The -- only comments the remainder of the line.

Loop through array of values with Arrow Function

               let value = value as? String {
                parametersString = parametersString + key + "=" + value + "&"
            }
        }
        parametersString = parametersString.substring(to: parametersString.index(before: parametersString.endIndex))
        return parametersString.addingPercentEncoding(withAllowedCharacters: .urlHostAllowed)!

Calculating how many days are between two dates in DB2?

I think that @Siva is on the right track (using DAYS()), but the nested CONCAT()s are making me dizzy. Here's my take.
Oh, there's no point in referencing sysdummy1, as you need to pull from a table regardless.
Also, don't use the implicit join syntax - it's considered an SQL Anti-pattern.

I'be wrapped the date conversion in a CTE for readability here, but there's nothing preventing you from doing it inline.

WITH Converted (convertedDate) as (SELECT DATE(SUBSTR(chdlm, 1, 4) || '-' ||
                                               SUBSTR(chdlm, 5, 2) || '-' ||

You can't specify target table for update in FROM clause

MariaDB has lifted this starting from 10.3.x (both for DELETE and UPDATE):

UPDATE - Statements With the Same Source and Target

From MariaDB 10.3.2, UPDATE statements may have the same source and target.

Until MariaDB 10.3.1, the following UPDATE statement would not work:

UPDATE t1 SET c1=c1+1 WHERE c2=(SELECT MAX(c2) FROM t1);
  ERROR 1093 (HY000): Table 't1' is specified twice,
  both as a target for 'UPDATE' and as a separate source for data

From MariaDB 10.3.2, the statement executes successfully:

UPDATE t1 SET c1=c1+1 WHERE c2=(SELECT MAX(c2) FROM t1);

DELETE - Same Source and Target Table

Until MariaDB 10.3.1, deleting from a table with the same source and target was not possible. From MariaDB 10.3.1, this is now possible. For example:

DELETE FROM t1 WHERE c1 IN (SELECT b.c1 FROM t1 b WHERE b.c2=0);

How to set the 'selected option' of a select dropdown list with jquery

One thing I don't think anyone has mentioned, and a stupid mistake I've made in the past (especially when dynamically populating selects). jQuery's .val() won't work for a select input if there isn't an option with a value that matches the value supplied.

Here's a fiddle explaining -> http://jsfiddle.net/go164zmt/

<select id="example">
    <option value="0">Test0</option>
    <option value="1">Test1</option>
</select>

$("#example").val("0");
alert($("#example").val());
$("#example").val("1");
alert($("#example").val());

//doesn't exist
$("#example").val("2");
//and thus returns null
alert($("#example").val());

Composer: how can I install another dependency without updating old ones?

To install a new package and only that, you have two options:

  1. Using the require command, just run:

    composer require new/package

    Composer will guess the best version constraint to use, install the package, and add it to composer.lock.

    You can also specify an explicit version constraint by running:

    composer require new/package ~2.5

–OR–

  1. Using the update command, add the new package manually to composer.json, then run:

    composer update new/package

If Composer complains, stating "Your requirements could not be resolved to an installable set of packages.", you can resolve this by passing the flag --with-dependencies. This will whitelist all dependencies of the package you are trying to install/update (but none of your other dependencies).

Regarding the question asker's issues with Laravel and mcrypt: check that it's properly enabled in your CLI php.ini. If php -m doesn't list mcrypt then it's missing.

Important: Don't forget to specify new/package when using composer update! Omitting that argument will cause all dependencies, as well as composer.lock, to be updated.

AngularJs directive not updating another directive's scope

Just wondering why you are using 2 directives?

It seems like, in this case it would be more straightforward to have a controller as the parent - handle adding the data from your service to its $scope, and pass the model you need from there into your warrantyDirective.

Or for that matter, you could use 0 directives to achieve the same result. (ie. move all functionality out of the separate directives and into a single controller).

It doesn't look like you're doing any explicit DOM transformation here, so in this case, perhaps using 2 directives is overcomplicating things.

Alternatively, have a look at the Angular documentation for directives: http://docs.angularjs.org/guide/directive The very last example at the bottom of the page explains how to wire up dependent directives.

Iterating through a List Object in JSP

Before teaching yourself Spring and Struts, you should probably learn Java. Output like this

org.classes.database.Employee@d9b02

is the result of the Object#toString() method which all objects inherit from the Object class, the superclass of all classes in Java.

The List sub classes implement this by iterating over all the elements and calling toString() on those. It seems, however, that you haven't implemented (overriden) the method in your Employee class.

Your JSTL here

<c:forEach items="${eList}" var="employee">

        <td>Employee ID: <c:out value="${employee.eid}"/></td>
        <td>Employee Pass: <c:out value="${employee.ename}"/></td>
    </tr>
</c:forEach>

is fine except for the fact that you don't have a page, request, session, or application scoped attribute named eList.

You need to add it

<% List eList = (List)session.getAttribute("empList");
   request.setAttribute("eList", eList);
%>

Or use the attribute empList in the forEach.

<c:forEach items="${empList}" var="employee">
    <tr>
        <td>Employee ID: <c:out value="${employee.eid}"/></td>
        <td>Employee Pass: <c:out value="${employee.ename}"/></td>
    </tr>
</c:forEach>

jQuery UI 1.10: dialog and zIndex option

You don't tell it, but you are using jQuery UI 1.10.

In jQuery UI 1.10 the zIndex option is removed:

Removed zIndex option

Similar to the stack option, the zIndex option is unnecessary with a proper stacking implementation. The z-index is defined in CSS and stacking is now controlled by ensuring the focused dialog is the last "stacking" element in its parent.

you have to use pure css to set the dialog "on the top":

.ui-dialog { z-index: 1000 !important ;}

you need the key !important to override the default styling of the element; this affects all your dialogs if you need to set it only for a dialog use the dialogClass option and style it.

If you need a modal dialog set the modal: true option see the docs:

If set to true, the dialog will have modal behavior; other items on the page will be disabled, i.e., cannot be interacted with. Modal dialogs create an overlay below the dialog but above other page elements.

You need to set the modal overlay with an higher z-index to do so use:

.ui-front { z-index: 1000 !important; }

for this element too.

Could not reserve enough space for object heap to start JVM

According to this post this error message means:

Heap size is larger than your computer's physical memory.

Edit: Heap is not the only memory that is reserved, I suppose. At least there are other JVM settings like PermGenSpace that ask for the memory. With heap size 128M and a PermGenSpace of 64M you already fill the space available.

Why not downsize other memory settings to free up space for the heap?

Formatting doubles for output in C#

Another method, starting with the method:

double i = (10 * 0.69);
Console.Write(ToStringFull(i));       // Output 6.89999999999999946709294817
Console.Write(ToStringFull(-6.9)      // Output -6.90000000000000035527136788
Console.Write(ToStringFull(i - 6.9)); // Output -0.00000000000000088817841970012523233890533

A Drop-In Function...

public static string ToStringFull(double value)
{
    if (value == 0.0) return "0.0";
    if (double.IsNaN(value)) return "NaN";
    if (double.IsNegativeInfinity(value)) return "-Inf";
    if (double.IsPositiveInfinity(value)) return "+Inf";

    long bits = BitConverter.DoubleToInt64Bits(value);
    BigInteger mantissa = (bits & 0xfffffffffffffL) | 0x10000000000000L;
    int exp = (int)((bits >> 52) & 0x7ffL) - 1023;
    string sign = (value < 0) ? "-" : "";

    if (54 > exp)
    {
        double offset = (exp / 3.321928094887362358); //...or =Math.Log10(Math.Abs(value))
        BigInteger temp = mantissa * BigInteger.Pow(10, 26 - (int)offset) >> (52 - exp);
        string numberText = temp.ToString();
        int digitsNeeded = (int)((numberText[0] - '5') / 10.0 - offset);
        if (exp < 0)
            return sign + "0." + new string('0', digitsNeeded) + numberText;
        else
            return sign + numberText.Insert(1 - digitsNeeded, ".");
    }
    return sign + (mantissa >> (52 - exp)).ToString();
}

How it works

To solve this problem I used the BigInteger tools. Large values are simple as they just require left shifting the mantissa by the exponent. For small values we cannot just directly right shift as that would lose the precision bits. We must first give it some extra size by multiplying it by a 10^n and then do the right shifts. After that, we move over the decimal n places to the left. More text/code here.

How to convert an object to JSON correctly in Angular 2 with TypeScript

You'll have to parse again if you want it in actual JSON:

JSON.parse(JSON.stringify(object))

Most Pythonic way to provide global configuration variables in config.py?

I did that once. Ultimately I found my simplified basicconfig.py adequate for my needs. You can pass in a namespace with other objects for it to reference if you need to. You can also pass in additional defaults from your code. It also maps attribute and mapping style syntax to the same configuration object.

Localhost : 404 not found

You need to add the port number to every address you type in your browser when you have changed the default port from port 80.

For example: localhost:8000/cc .

A little edition here is that it should be 8080 in place of 8000. For example - http://localhost:8080/phpmyadmin/

Getting text from td cells with jQuery

You can use .map: http://jsfiddle.net/9ndcL/1/.

// array of text of each td

var texts = $("td").map(function() {
    return $(this).text();
});

How to put a text beside the image?

Use floats to float the image, the text should wrap beside

http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_float.asp

change array size

Use a generic List (System.Collections.Generic.List).

Using Javascript can you get the value from a session attribute set by servlet in the HTML page

Below code may help you to achieve session attribution inside java script:

var name = '<%= session.getAttribute("username") %>';

Can someone explain how to implement the jQuery File Upload plugin?

You can use uploadify this is the best multiupload jquery plugin i have used.

The implementation is easy, the browser support is perfect.

UITextField border color

If you use a TextField with rounded corners use this code:

    self.TextField.layer.cornerRadius=8.0f;
    self.TextField.layer.masksToBounds=YES;
    self.TextField.layer.borderColor=[[UIColor redColor]CGColor];
    self.TextField.layer.borderWidth= 1.0f;

To remove the border:

self.TextField.layer.masksToBounds=NO;
self.TextField.layer.borderColor=[[UIColor clearColor]CGColor];

Check if value exists in the array (AngularJS)

You can use indexOf(). Like:

var Color = ["blue", "black", "brown", "gold"];
var a = Color.indexOf("brown");
alert(a);

The indexOf() method searches the array for the specified item, and returns its position. And return -1 if the item is not found.

If you want to search from end to start, use the lastIndexOf() method:

    var Color = ["blue", "black", "brown", "gold"];
    var a = Color.lastIndexOf("brown");
    alert(a);

The search will start at the specified position, or at the end if no start position is specified, and end the search at the beginning of the array.

Returns -1 if the item is not found.

What's the difference between "Write-Host", "Write-Output", or "[console]::WriteLine"?

From my testing Write-Output and [Console]::WriteLine() perform much better than Write-Host.

Depending on how much text you need to write out this may be important.

Below if the result of 5 tests each for Write-Host, Write-Output and [Console]::WriteLine().

In my limited experience, I've found when working with any sort of real world data I need to abandon the cmdlets and go straight for the lower level commands to get any decent performance out of my scripts.

measure-command {$count = 0; while ($count -lt 1000) { Write-Host "hello"; $count++ }}

1312ms
1651ms
1909ms

Pointers in C: when to use the ampersand and the asterisk?

You have pointers and values:

int* p; // variable p is pointer to integer type
int i; // integer value

You turn a pointer into a value with *:

int i2 = *p; // integer i2 is assigned with integer value that pointer p is pointing to

You turn a value into a pointer with &:

int* p2 = &i; // pointer p2 will point to the address of integer i

Edit: In the case of arrays, they are treated very much like pointers. If you think of them as pointers, you'll be using * to get at the values inside of them as explained above, but there is also another, more common way using the [] operator:

int a[2]; // array of integers
int i = *a; // the value of the first element of a
int i2 = a[0]; // another way to get the first element

To get the second element:

int a[2]; // array
int i = *(a + 1); // the value of the second element
int i2 = a[1]; // the value of the second element

So the [] indexing operator is a special form of the * operator, and it works like this:

a[i] == *(a + i);  // these two statements are the same thing

How to check if a symlink exists

-L is the test for file exists and is also a symbolic link

If you do not want to test for the file being a symbolic link, but just test to see if it exists regardless of type (file, directory, socket etc) then use -e

So if file is really file and not just a symbolic link you can do all these tests and get an exit status whose value indicates the error condition.

if [ ! \( -e "${file}" \) ]
then
     echo "%ERROR: file ${file} does not exist!" >&2
     exit 1
elif [ ! \( -f "${file}" \) ]
then
     echo "%ERROR: ${file} is not a file!" >&2
     exit 2
elif [ ! \( -r "${file}" \) ]
then
     echo "%ERROR: file ${file} is not readable!" >&2
     exit 3
elif [ ! \( -s "${file}" \) ]
then
     echo "%ERROR: file ${file} is empty!" >&2
     exit 4

tkinter: Open a new window with a button prompt

Here's the nearly shortest possible solution to your question. The solution works in python 3.x. For python 2.x change the import to Tkinter rather than tkinter (the difference being the capitalization):

import tkinter as tk
#import Tkinter as tk # for python 2

def create_window():
    window = tk.Toplevel(root)

root = tk.Tk()
b = tk.Button(root, text="Create new window", command=create_window)
b.pack()

root.mainloop()

This is definitely not what I recommend as an example of good coding style, but it illustrates the basic concepts: a button with a command, and a function that creates a window.

How to decide when to use Node.js?

The most important reasons to start your next project using Node ...

  • All the coolest dudes are into it ... so it must be fun.
  • You can hangout at the cooler and have lots of Node adventures to brag about.
  • You're a penny pincher when it comes to cloud hosting costs.
  • Been there done that with Rails
  • You hate IIS deployments
  • Your old IT job is getting rather dull and you wish you were in a shiny new Start Up.

What to expect ...

  • You'll feel safe and secure with Express without all the server bloatware you never needed.
  • Runs like a rocket and scales well.
  • You dream it. You installed it. The node package repo npmjs.org is the largest ecosystem of open source libraries in the world.
  • Your brain will get time warped in the land of nested callbacks ...
  • ... until you learn to keep your Promises.
  • Sequelize and Passport are your new API friends.
  • Debugging mostly async code will get umm ... interesting .
  • Time for all Noders to master Typescript.

Who uses it?

  • PayPal, Netflix, Walmart, LinkedIn, Groupon, Uber, GoDaddy, Dow Jones
  • Here's why they switched to Node.

hexadecimal string to byte array in python

There is a built-in function in bytearray that does what you intend.

bytearray.fromhex("de ad be ef 00")

It returns a bytearray and it reads hex strings with or without space separator.

Display a angular variable in my html page

In your template, you have access to all the variables that are members of the current $scope. So, tobedone should be $scope.tobedone, and then you can display it with {{tobedone}}, or [[tobedone]] in your case.

How do I convert an ANSI encoded file to UTF-8 with Notepad++?

Maybe this is not the answer you needed, but I encountered similar problem, so I decided to put it here.

I needed to convert 500 xml files to UTF8 via Notepad++. Why Notepad++? When I used the option "Encode in UTF8" (many other converters use the same logic) it messed up all special characters, so I had to use "Convert to UTF8" explicitly.

Here some simple steps to convert multiple files via Notepad++ without messing up with special characters (for ex. diacritical marks).

  1. Run Notepad++ and then open menu Plugins->Plugin Manager->Show Plugin Manager
  2. Install Python Script. When plugin is installed, restart the application.
  3. Choose menu Plugins->Python Script->New script.
  4. Choose its name, and then past the following code:

convertToUTF8.py

import os
import sys
from Npp import notepad # import it first!

filePathSrc="C:\\Users\\" # Path to the folder with files to convert
for root, dirs, files in os.walk(filePathSrc):
    for fn in files:
        if fn[-4:] == '.xml': # Specify type of the files
            notepad.open(root + "\\" + fn)
            notepad.runMenuCommand("Encoding", "Convert to UTF-8")
            # notepad.save()
            # if you try to save/replace the file, an annoying confirmation window would popup.
            notepad.saveAs("{}{}".format(fn[:-4], '_utf8.xml'))
            notepad.close()

After all, run the script

Cassandra "no viable alternative at input"

Wrong syntax. Here you are:

insert into user_by_category (game_category,customer_id) VALUES ('Goku','12');

or:

insert into user_by_category ("game_category","customer_id") VALUES ('Kakarot','12');

The second one is normally used for case-sensitive column names.

jQuery checkbox change and click event

Tested in JSFiddle and does what you're asking for.This approach has the added benefit of firing when a label associated with a checkbox is clicked.

Updated Answer:

$(document).ready(function() {
    //set initial state.
    $('#textbox1').val(this.checked);

    $('#checkbox1').change(function() {
        if(this.checked) {
            var returnVal = confirm("Are you sure?");
            $(this).prop("checked", returnVal);
        }
        $('#textbox1').val(this.checked);
    });
});

Original Answer:

$(document).ready(function() {
    //set initial state.
    $('#textbox1').val($(this).is(':checked'));

    $('#checkbox1').change(function() {
        if($(this).is(":checked")) {
            var returnVal = confirm("Are you sure?");
            $(this).attr("checked", returnVal);
        }
        $('#textbox1').val($(this).is(':checked'));
    });

How do I create a new column from the output of pandas groupby().sum()?

You want to use transform this will return a Series with the index aligned to the df so you can then add it as a new column:

How to listen for changes to a MongoDB collection?

Alternatively, you could use the standard Mongo FindAndUpdate method, and within the callback, fire an EventEmitter event (in Node) when the callback is run.

Any other parts of the application or architecture listening to this event will be notified of the update, and any relevant data sent there also. This is a really simple way to achieve notifications from Mongo.

How to change btn color in Bootstrap

Adding a step-by-step guide to @Codeply-er's answer above for SASS/SCSS newbies like me.

  1. Save btnCustom.scss.
/* import the necessary Bootstrap files */
@import 'bootstrap';

/* Define color */
$mynewcolor:#77cccc;

.btn-custom {
    @include button-variant($mynewcolor, darken($mynewcolor, 7.5%), darken($mynewcolor, 10%), lighten($mynewcolor,5%), lighten($mynewcolor, 10%), darken($mynewcolor,30%));
}

.btn-outline-custom {
    @include button-outline-variant($mynewcolor, #222222, lighten($mynewcolor,5%), $mynewcolor);
}
  1. Download a SASS compiler such as Koala so that SCSS file above can be compiled to CSS.
  2. Clone the Bootstrap github repo because the compiler needs the button-variant mixins somewhere.
  3. Explicitly import bootstrap functions by creating a _bootstrap.scss file as below. This will allow the compiler to access the Bootstrap functions and variables.
@import "bootstrap/scss/functions";
@import "bootstrap/scss/variables";
@import "bootstrap/scss/mixins";
@import "bootstrap/scss/root";
@import "bootstrap/scss/reboot";
@import "bootstrap/scss/type";
@import "bootstrap/scss/images";
@import "bootstrap/scss/grid";
@import "bootstrap/scss/tables";
@import "bootstrap/scss/forms";
@import "bootstrap/scss/buttons";
@import "bootstrap/scss/utilities";
  1. Compile btnCustom.scss with the previously downloaded compiler to css.

How do I deal with installing peer dependencies in Angular CLI?

You can ignore the peer dependency warnings by using the --force flag with Angular cli when updating dependencies.

ng update @angular/cli @angular/core --force

For a full list of options, check the docs: https://angular.io/cli/update

Python: Binding Socket: "Address already in use"

another solution, in development environment of course, is killing process using it, for example

def serve():
    server = HTTPServer(('', PORT_NUMBER), BaseHTTPRequestHandler)
    print 'Started httpserver on port ' , PORT_NUMBER
    server.serve_forever()
try:
    serve()
except Exception, e:
    print "probably port is used. killing processes using given port %d, %s"%(PORT_NUMBER,e)
    os.system("xterm -e 'sudo fuser -kuv %d/tcp'" % PORT_NUMBER)
    serve()
    raise e

Set Colorbar Range in matplotlib

Not sure if this is the most elegant solution (this is what I used), but you could scale your data to the range between 0 to 1 and then modify the colorbar:

import matplotlib as mpl
...
ax, _ = mpl.colorbar.make_axes(plt.gca(), shrink=0.5)
cbar = mpl.colorbar.ColorbarBase(ax, cmap=cm,
                       norm=mpl.colors.Normalize(vmin=-0.5, vmax=1.5))
cbar.set_clim(-2.0, 2.0)

With the two different limits you can control the range and legend of the colorbar. In this example only the range between -0.5 to 1.5 is show in the bar, while the colormap covers -2 to 2 (so this could be your data range, which you record before the scaling).

So instead of scaling the colormap you scale your data and fit the colorbar to that.

Using SimpleXML to create an XML object from scratch

Please see my answer here. As dreamwerx.myopenid.com points out, it is possible to do this with SimpleXML, but the DOM extension would be the better and more flexible way. Additionally there is a third way: using XMLWriter. It's much more simple to use than the DOM and therefore it's my preferred way of writing XML documents from scratch.

$w=new XMLWriter();
$w->openMemory();
$w->startDocument('1.0','UTF-8');
$w->startElement("root");
    $w->writeAttribute("ah", "OK");
    $w->text('Wow, it works!');
$w->endElement();
echo htmlentities($w->outputMemory(true));

By the way: DOM stands for Document Object Model; this is the standardized API into XML documents.

Deleting all files in a directory with Python

Use os.chdir to change directory . Use glob.glob to generate a list of file names which end it '.bak'. The elements of the list are just strings.

Then you could use os.unlink to remove the files. (PS. os.unlink and os.remove are synonyms for the same function.)

#!/usr/bin/env python
import glob
import os
directory='/path/to/dir'
os.chdir(directory)
files=glob.glob('*.bak')
for filename in files:
    os.unlink(filename)

How to fix SSL certificate error when running Npm on Windows?

If you have control over the proxy server or can convince your IT admins you could try to explicitly exclude registry.npmjs.org from SSL inspection. This should avoid users of the proxy server from having to either disable strict-ssl checking or installing a new root CA.

init-param and context-param

<init-param> and <context-param> are static parameters which are stored in web.xml file. If you have any data which doesn't change frequently you can store it in one of them.

If you want to store particular data which is confined to a particular servlet scope, then you can use <init-param> .Anything you declare inside <init-param> is only accessible only for that particular servlet.The init-param is declared inside the <servlet> tag.

<servlet>
     <display-name>HelloWorldServlet</display-name>
     <servlet-name>HelloWorldServlet</servlet-name>
     <init-param>
         <param-name>Greetings</param-name>
         <param-value>Hello</param-value>
     </init-param>
</servlet>

and you can access those parameters in the servlet as follows:

out.println(getInitParameter("Greetings"));

If you want to store data which is common for whole application and if it doesn't change frequently you can use <context-param> instead of servletContext.setAttribute() method of the application context. For more information regarding usage of <context-param> VS ServletContext.setAttribute() have a look at this question. context-param are declared under the tag web-app. You can declare and access the <context-param> as follows

<web-app>
    <context-param>
        <param-name>Country</param-name>
        <param-value>India</param-value>
    </context-param>
    <context-param>
        <param-name>Age</param-name>
        <param-value>24</param-value>
    </context-param>
</web-app>

Usage in the application either in a JSP or Servlet

getServletContext().getInitParameter("Country");

does R stop no matter the N value you use? try to use small values and see if it's the mvrnorm function that is the issue or you could simply loop it on subsets. Insert the gc() function in the loop to free some RAM continuously

Best Way to Refresh Adapter/ListView on Android

Simply add these code before setting Adapter it's working for me:

    listView.destroyDrawingCache();
    listView.setVisibility(ListView.INVISIBLE);
    listView.setVisibility(ListView.VISIBLE);

Or Directly you can use below method after change Data resource.

   adapter.notifyDataSetChanged()

Programmatically set the initial view controller using Storyboards

A few days ago I've encountered to same situation. A very simple trick solved this problem. I set hidden my initial view controller before launch2. If initial view controller is the right controller it's set to visible in viewDidLoad. Else, a segue is performed to desired view controller. It works perfectly in iOS 6.1 and above. I'm sure it works on earlier versions of iOS.

Definition of a Balanced Tree

The constraint is generally applied recursively to every subtree. That is, the tree is only balanced if:

  1. The left and right subtrees' heights differ by at most one, AND
  2. The left subtree is balanced, AND
  3. The right subtree is balanced

According to this, the next tree is balanced:

     A
   /   \
  B     C
 /     / \
D     E   F
     /
    G

The next one is not balanced because the subtrees of C differ by 2 in their height:

     A
   /   \
  B     C   <-- difference = 2
 /     /
D     E
     /
    G

That said, the specific constraint of the first point depends on the type of tree. The one listed above is the typical for AVL trees.

Red-black trees, for instance, impose a softer constraint.

How do we update URL or query strings using javascript/jQuery without reloading the page?

You'll need to be more specific. What do you mean by 'update the URL'? It could mean automatically navigating to a different page, which is certainly possible.

If you want to just update the contents of the address bar without reloading the page, see Modify the URL without reloading the page

php implode (101) with quotes

I think this is what you are trying to do

$array = array('lastname', 'email', 'phone');
echo "'" . implode("','", explode(',', $array)) . "'";

Parsing JSON from XmlHttpRequest.responseJSON

Note: I've only tested this in Chrome.

it adds a prototype function to the XMLHttpRequest .. XHR2,

in XHR 1 you probably just need to replace this.response with this.responseText

Object.defineProperty(XMLHttpRequest.prototype,'responseJSON',{value:function(){
 return JSON.parse(this.response);
},writable:false,enumerable:false});

to return the json in xhr2

xhr.onload=function(){
 console.log(this.responseJSON());
}

EDIT

If you plan to use XHR with arraybuffer or other response types then you have to check if the response is a string.

in any case you have to add more checks e.g. if it's not able to parse the json.

Object.defineProperty(XMLHttpRequest.prototype,'responseJSON',{value:function(){
 return (typeof this.response==='string'?JSON.parse(this.response):this.response);
},writable:false,enumerable:false});

How do I get the file name from a String containing the Absolute file path?

This answer works for me in c#:

string fileName = Path.GetFileName("C:\Hello\AnotherFolder\The File Name.PDF");

WPF Binding StringFormat Short Date String

Be aware of the single quotes for the string format. This doesn't work:

    Content="{Binding PlannedDateTime, StringFormat={}{0:yy.MM.dd HH:mm}}"

while this does:

    Content="{Binding PlannedDateTime, StringFormat='{}{0:yy.MM.dd HH:mm}'}"

Open Popup window using javascript

To create a popup you'll need the following script:

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">

function popitup(url) {
newwindow=window.open(url,'name','height=200,width=150');
if (window.focus) {newwindow.focus()}
return false;
}

</script>

Then, you link to it by:

  <a href="popupex.html" onclick="return popitup('popupex.html')">Link to popup</a>

If you want you can call the function directly from document.ready also. Or maybe from another function.

What is the recommended way to delete a large number of items from DynamoDB?

If you want to delete items after some time, e.g. after a month, just use Time To Live option. It will not count write units.

In your case, I would add ttl when logs expire and leave those after a user is deleted. TTL would make sure logs are removed eventually.

When Time To Live is enabled on a table, a background job checks the TTL attribute of items to see if they are expired.

DynamoDB typically deletes expired items within 48 hours of expiration. The exact duration within which an item truly gets deleted after expiration is specific to the nature of the workload and the size of the table. Items that have expired and not been deleted will still show up in reads, queries, and scans. These items can still be updated and successful updates to change or remove the expiration attribute will be honored.

SQL Server add auto increment primary key to existing table

Create a new Table With Different name and same columns, Primary Key and Foreign Key association and link this in your Insert statement of code. For E.g : For EMPLOYEE, replace with EMPLOYEES.

CREATE TABLE EMPLOYEES(

    EmpId        INT NOT NULL IDENTITY(1,1),
    F_Name       VARCHAR(20) ,
    L_Name       VARCHAR(20) ,
    DOB          DATE ,
    DOJ          DATE ,
    PRIMARY KEY (EmpId),
    DeptId int FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES DEPARTMENT(DeptId),
    DesgId int FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES DESIGNATION(DesgId),
    AddId int FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES ADDRESS(AddId)
)

However, you have to either delete the existing EMPLOYEE Table or do some adjustment according to your requirement.

Javascript Thousand Separator / string format

You can use javascript. below are the code, it will only accept numeric and one dot

here is the javascript

<script >

            function FormatCurrency(ctrl) {
                //Check if arrow keys are pressed - we want to allow navigation around textbox using arrow keys
                if (event.keyCode == 37 || event.keyCode == 38 || event.keyCode == 39 || event.keyCode == 40) {
                    return;
                }

                var val = ctrl.value;

                val = val.replace(/,/g, "")
                ctrl.value = "";
                val += '';
                x = val.split('.');
                x1 = x[0];
                x2 = x.length > 1 ? '.' + x[1] : '';

                var rgx = /(\d+)(\d{3})/;

                while (rgx.test(x1)) {
                    x1 = x1.replace(rgx, '$1' + ',' + '$2');
                }

                ctrl.value = x1 + x2;
            }

            function CheckNumeric() {
                return event.keyCode >= 48 && event.keyCode <= 57 || event.keyCode == 46;
            }

  </script>

HTML

<input type="text" onkeypress="return CheckNumeric()" onkeyup="FormatCurrency(this)" />

How to list branches that contain a given commit?

The answer for git branch -r --contains <commit> works well for normal remote branches, but if the commit is only in the hidden head namespace that GitHub creates for PRs, you'll need a few more steps.

Say, if PR #42 was from deleted branch and that PR thread has the only reference to the commit on the repo, git branch -r doesn't know about PR #42 because refs like refs/pull/42/head aren't listed as a remote branch by default.

In .git/config for the [remote "origin"] section add a new line:

fetch = +refs/pull/*/head:refs/remotes/origin/pr/*

(This gist has more context.)

Then when you git fetch you'll get all the PR branches, and when you run git branch -r --contains <commit> you'll see origin/pr/42 contains the commit.

How can I detect Internet Explorer (IE) and Microsoft Edge using JavaScript?

This function worked perfectly for me. It detects Edge as well.

Originally from this Codepen:

 */
function detectIE() {
  var ua = window.navigator.userAgent;

  // Test values; Uncomment to check result …

  // ua = 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.2; Trident/6.0)';

  // IE 11
  // ua = 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko';

  // Edge 12 (Spartan)
  // ua = 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/39.0.2171.71 Safari/537.36 Edge/12.0';

  // Edge 13
  // ua = 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/46.0.2486.0 Safari/537.36 Edge/13.10586';

  var msie = ua.indexOf('MSIE ');
  if (msie > 0) {
    // IE 10 or older => return version number
    return parseInt(ua.substring(msie + 5, ua.indexOf('.', msie)), 10);
  }

  var trident = ua.indexOf('Trident/');
  if (trident > 0) {
    // IE 11 => return version number
    var rv = ua.indexOf('rv:');
    return parseInt(ua.substring(rv + 3, ua.indexOf('.', rv)), 10);
  }

  var edge = ua.indexOf('Edge/');
  if (edge > 0) {
    // Edge (IE 12+) => return version number
    return parseInt(ua.substring(edge + 5, ua.indexOf('.', edge)), 10);
  }

  // other browser
  return false;
}

Then you can use if (detectIE()) { /* do IE stuff */ } in your code.

How do I search a Perl array for a matching string?

If you will be doing many searches of the array, AND matching always is defined as string equivalence, then you can normalize your data and use a hash.

my @strings = qw( aAa Bbb cCC DDD eee );

my %string_lut;

# Init via slice:
@string_lut{ map uc, @strings } = ();

# or use a for loop:
#    for my $string ( @strings ) {
#        $string_lut{ uc($string) } = undef;
#    }

#Look for a string:

my $search = 'AAa';

print "'$string' ",
    ( exists $string_lut{ uc $string ? "IS" : "is NOT" ),
    " in the array\n";

Let me emphasize that doing a hash lookup is good if you are planning on doing many lookups on the array. Also, it will only work if matching means that $foo eq $bar, or other requirements that can be met through normalization (like case insensitivity).

How to find cube root using Python?

You could use x ** (1. / 3) to compute the (floating-point) cube root of x.

The slight subtlety here is that this works differently for negative numbers in Python 2 and 3. The following code, however, handles that:

def is_perfect_cube(x):
    x = abs(x)
    return int(round(x ** (1. / 3))) ** 3 == x

print(is_perfect_cube(63))
print(is_perfect_cube(64))
print(is_perfect_cube(65))
print(is_perfect_cube(-63))
print(is_perfect_cube(-64))
print(is_perfect_cube(-65))
print(is_perfect_cube(2146689000)) # no other currently posted solution
                                   # handles this correctly

This takes the cube root of x, rounds it to the nearest integer, raises to the third power, and finally checks whether the result equals x.

The reason to take the absolute value is to make the code work correctly for negative numbers across Python versions (Python 2 and 3 treat raising negative numbers to fractional powers differently).

WPF TemplateBinding vs RelativeSource TemplatedParent

They are used in a similar way but they have a few differences. Here is a link to the TemplateBinding documentation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms742882.aspx

Should I use `import os.path` or `import os`?

As per PEP-20 by Tim Peters, "Explicit is better than implicit" and "Readability counts". If all you need from the os module is under os.path, import os.path would be more explicit and let others know what you really care about.

Likewise, PEP-20 also says "Simple is better than complex", so if you also need stuff that resides under the more-general os umbrella, import os would be preferred.

PHP mPDF save file as PDF

The mPDF docs state that the first argument of Output() is the file path, second is the saving mode - you need to set it to 'F'.

$mpdf->Output('filename.pdf','F');

VLook-Up Match first 3 characters of one column with another column

=VLOOKUP(Left(A1,1),B$2:B$22,2,FALSE)

Left is because you are starting the word/alphanumeric text from the left. the number "1" which i have placed is after lookup value in this case "A1" is because my search includes the formula for 1st character. If second character is asked it would be (A1,2) quite simple really :)

Skip a submodule during a Maven build

The notion of multi-module projects is there to service the needs of codependent segments of a project. Such a client depends on the services which in turn depends on say EJBs or data-access routines. You could group your continuous integration (CI) tests in this manner. I would rationalize that by saying that the CI tests need to be in lock-step with application logic changes.

Suppose your project is structured as:

project-root
  |
  + --- ci
  |
  + --- client
  |
  + --- server

The project-root/pom.xml defines modules

<modules>
  <module>ci</module>
  <module>client</module>
  <module>server</module>
</modules>

The ci/pom.xml defines profiles such as:

...
<profiles>
  <profile>
    <id>default</id>
    <activation>
      <activeByDefault>true</activeByDefault>
    </activation>
    <plugin>
       <artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
       <configuration>
         <skip>true</skip>
       </configuration>
     </plugin>
  </profile>
  <profile>
    <id>CI</id>
    <plugin>
       <artifactId>maven-surefire-plugin</artifactId>
       <configuration>
         <skip>false</skip>
       </configuration>
     </plugin>
  </profile>
</profiles>

This will result in Maven skipping tests in this module except when the profile named CI is active. Your CI server must be instructed to execute mvn clean package -P CI. The Maven web site has an in-depth explanation of the profiling mechanism.

How can I rename a field for all documents in MongoDB?

If ever you need to do the same thing with mongoid:

Use Invoke-WebRequest with a username and password for basic authentication on the GitHub API

This is what worked for our particular situation.

Notes are from Wikipedia on Basic Auth from the Client Side. Thank you to @briantist's answer for the help!

Combine the username and password into a single string username:password

$user = "shaunluttin"
$pass = "super-strong-alpha-numeric-symbolic-long-password"
$pair = "${user}:${pass}"

Encode the string to the RFC2045-MIME variant of Base64, except not limited to 76 char/line.

$bytes = [System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetBytes($pair)
$base64 = [System.Convert]::ToBase64String($bytes)

Create the Auth value as the method, a space, and then the encoded pair Method Base64String

$basicAuthValue = "Basic $base64"

Create the header Authorization: Basic QWxhZGRpbjpvcGVuIHNlc2FtZQ==

$headers = @{ Authorization = $basicAuthValue }

Invoke the web-request

Invoke-WebRequest -uri "https://api.github.com/user" -Headers $headers

The PowerShell version of this is more verbose than the cURL version is. Why is that? @briantist pointed out that GitHub is breaking the RFC and PowerShell is sticking to it. Does that mean that cURL is also breaking with the standard?

SQLite add Primary Key

Introduction

This is based on Android's java and it's a good example on changing the database without annoying your application fans/customers. This is based on the idea of the SQLite FAQ page http://sqlite.org/faq.html#q11

The problem

I did not notice that I need to set a row_number or record_id to delete a single purchased item in a receipt, and at same time the item barcode number fooled me into thinking of making it as the key to delete that item. I am saving a receipt details in the table receipt_barcode. Leaving it without a record_id can mean deleting all records of the same item in a receipt if I used the item barcode as the key.

Notice

Please understand that this is a copy-paste of my code I am work on at the time of this writing. Use it only as an example, copy-pasting randomly won't help you. Modify this first to your needs

Also please don't forget to read the comments in the code .

The Code

Use this as a method in your class to check 1st whether the column you want to add is missing . We do this just to not repeat the process of altering the table receipt_barcode. Just mention it as part of your class. In the next step you'll see how we'll use it.

public boolean is_column_exists(SQLiteDatabase mDatabase , String table_name,
String     column_name) {
    //checks if table_name has column_name
    Cursor cursor = mDatabase.rawQuery("pragma table_info("+table_name+")",null);
    while (cursor.moveToNext()){
    if (cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex("name")).equalsIgnoreCase(column_name)) return true;
    }
    return false;
}

Then , the following code is used to create the table receipt_barcode if it already does NOT exit for the 1st time users of your app. And please notice the "IF NOT EXISTS" in the code. It has importance.

//mDatabase should be defined as a Class member (global variable)
//for ease of access :
//SQLiteDatabse mDatabase=SQLiteDatabase.openOrCreateDatabase(dbfile_path, null);
creation_query = " CREATE TABLE if not exists receipt_barcode ( ";
creation_query += "\n record_id        INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,";
creation_query += "\n rcpt_id INT( 11 )       NOT NULL,";
creation_query += "\n barcode VARCHAR( 255 )  NOT NULL ,";
creation_query += "\n barcode_price VARCHAR( 255 )  DEFAULT (0),";
creation_query += "\n PRIMARY KEY ( record_id ) );";
mDatabase.execSQL(creation_query);

//This is where the important part comes in regarding the question in this page:

//adding the missing primary key record_id in table receipt_barcode for older versions
        if (!is_column_exists(mDatabase, "receipt_barcode","record_id")){
            mDatabase.beginTransaction();
            try{
                Log.e("record_id", "creating");

                 creation_query="CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE t1_backup(";
                 creation_query+="record_id INTEGER        PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,";
                 creation_query+="rcpt_id INT( 11 )       NOT NULL,";
                 creation_query+="barcode VARCHAR( 255 )  NOT NULL ,";

Difference between ${} and $() in Bash

  1. $() means: "first evaluate this, and then evaluate the rest of the line".

    Ex :

    echo $(pwd)/myFile.txt

    will be interpreted as

    echo /my/path/myFile.txt

    On the other hand ${} expands a variable.

    Ex:

    MY_VAR=toto
    echo ${MY_VAR}/myFile.txt

    will be interpreted as

    echo toto/myFile.txt

  2. Why can't I use it as bash$ while ((i=0;i<10;i++)); do echo $i; done

    I'm afraid the answer is just that the bash syntax for while just isn't the same as the syntax for for.

How do I get the command-line for an Eclipse run configuration?

I found a solution on Stack Overflow for Java program run configurations which also works for JUnit run configurations.

You can get the full command executed by your configuration on the Debug tab, or more specifically the Debug view.

  1. Run your application
  2. Go to your Debug perspective
  3. There should be an entry in there (in the Debug View) for the app you've just executed
  4. Right-click the node which references java.exe or javaw.exe and select Properties In the dialog that pops up you'll see the Command Line which includes all jars, parameters, etc

What are the best PHP input sanitizing functions?

Sanitizers

Sanitize is a function to check (and remove) harmful data from user input which can harm the software. Sanitizing user input is the most secure method of user input validation to strip out anything that is not on the whitelist.

PHP Support

5.4.0 - 5.4.45, 5.5.0 - 5.5.38, 5.6.0 - 5.6.40, 7.0.0 - 7.0.33, 7.1.0 - 7.1.33, 7.2.0 - 7.2.34, 7.3.0 - 7.3.27, 7.4.0 - 7.4.15, 8.0.0 - 8.0.2

<?php
require_once("path/to/Sanitizers.php");

use Sanitizers\Sanitizers\Sanitizer;

\\ passing `true` in Sanitizer class enables exceptions
$sanitize = new Sanitizer(true);
try {
    echo $sanitize->Username($_GET['username']);
} catch (Exception $e) {
    echo "Could not Sanitize user input."
    var_dump($e);

How to create a Java cron job

If you are using unix, you need to write a shellscript to run you java batch first.

After that, in unix, you run this command "crontab -e" to edit crontab script. In order to configure crontab, please refer to this article http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2009/06/15-practical-crontab-examples/

Save your crontab setting. Then wait for the time to come, program will run automatically.

Android scale animation on view

Use this method (No need to xml file)

If you want scale to quarter(half x,half y)

view.animate().scaleX(0.5f).scaleY(0.5f)

If you want scale and move to bottom right

view.animate().scaleX(0.5f).scaleY(0.5f)
        .translationY((view.height/4).toFloat()).translationX((view.width/4).toFloat())

If you want move to top use (-view.height/4) and for left (-view.width/4)

If you want do something after animation ends use withEndAction(Runnable runnable) function.

You can use some other property like alpha and rotation

Full code

view.animate()
      .scaleX(0.5f).scaleY(0.5f)//scale to quarter(half x,half y)
      .translationY((view.height/4).toFloat()).translationX((view.width/4).toFloat())// move to bottom / right
      .alpha(0.5f) // make it less visible
      .rotation(360f) // one round turns
      .setDuration(1000) // all take 1 seconds
      .withEndAction(new Runnable() {
           @Override
           public void run() {
              //animation ended
           }
      });

How to use local docker images with Minikube?

For minikube on Docker:

Option 1: Using minikube registry

  1. Check your minikube ports docker ps

You will see something like: 127.0.0.1:32769->5000/tcp It means that your minikube registry is on 32769 port for external usage, but internally it's on 5000 port.

  1. Build your docker image tagging it: docker build -t 127.0.0.1:32769/hello .

  2. Push the image to the minikube registry: docker push 127.0.0.1:32769/hello

  3. Check if it's there: curl http://localhost:32769/v2/_catalog

  4. Build some deployment using the internal port: kubectl create deployment hello --image=127.0.0.1:5000/hello

Your image is right now in minikube container, to see it write:

eval $(minikube -p <PROFILE> docker-env)
docker images

caveat: if using only one profile named "minikube" then "-p " section is redundant, but if using more then don't forget about it; Personally I delete the standard one (minikube) not to make mistakes.

Option 2: Not using registry

  1. Switch to minikube container Docker: eval $(minikube -p <PROFILE> docker-env)
  2. Build your image: docker build -t hello .
  3. Create some deployment: kubectl create deployment hello --image=hello

At the end change the deployment ImagePullPolicy from Always to IfNotPresent:

kubectl edit deployment hello

How to use WHERE IN with Doctrine 2

Found how to do it in the year of 2016: https://redbeardtechnologies.wordpress.com/2011/07/01/doctrine-2-dql-in-statement/

Quote:

Here is how to do it properly:

$em->createQuery(“SELECT users
     FROM Entities\User users
     WHERE
         users.id IN (:userids)”)
->setParameters(
     array(‘userids’ => $userIds)
);

The method setParameters will take the given array and implode it properly to be used in the “IN” statement.

Set mouse focus and move cursor to end of input using jQuery

What about in one single line...

$('#txtSample').focus().val($('#txtSample').val());

This line works for me.

What’s the best way to reload / refresh an iframe?

In IE8 using .Net, setting the iframe.src for the first time is ok, but setting the iframe.src for the second time is not raising the page_load of the iframed page. To solve it i used iframe.contentDocument.location.href = "NewUrl.htm".

Discover it when used jQuery thickBox and tried to reopen same page in the thickbox iframe. Then it just showed the earlier page that was opened.

How to get the path of the batch script in Windows?

%~dp0 will be the directory. Here's some documentation on all of the path modifiers. Fun stuff :-)

To remove the final backslash, you can use the :n,m substring syntax, like so:

SET mypath=%~dp0
echo %mypath:~0,-1%

I don't believe there's a way to combine the %0 syntax with the :~n,m syntax, unfortunately.

Showing loading animation in center of page while making a call to Action method in ASP .NET MVC

Another solution that it is similar to those already exposed here is this one. Just before the closing body tag place this html:

<div id="resultLoading" style="display: none; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: fixed; z-index: 10000; top: 0px; left: 0px; right: 0px; bottom: 0px; margin: auto;">
    <div style="width: 340px; height: 200px; text-align: center; position: fixed; top: 0px; left: 0px; right: 0px; bottom: 0px; margin: auto; z-index: 10; color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">
        <div class="uil-default-css">
            <img src="/images/loading-animation1.gif" style="max-width: 150px; max-height: 150px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" />
        </div>
        <div class="loader-text" style="display: block; font-size: 18px; font-weight: 300;">&nbsp;</div>
    </div>
    <div style="background: rgb(0, 0, 0); opacity: 0.6; width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; top: 0px;"></div>
</div>

Finally, replace .loader-text element's content on the fly on every navigation event and turn on the #resultloading div, note that it is initially hidden.

var showLoader = function (text) {
    $('#resultLoading').show();
    $('#resultLoading').find('.loader-text').html(text);
};

jQuery(document).ready(function () {
    jQuery(window).on("beforeunload ", function () {
        showLoader('Loading, please wait...');
    });
});

This can be applied to any html based project with jQuery where you don't know which pages of your administration area will take too long to finish loading.

The gif image is 176x176px but you can use any transparent gif animation, please take into account that the image size is not important as it will be maxed to 150x150px.

Also, the function showLoader can be called on an element's click to perform an action that will further redirect the page, that is why it is provided ad an individual function. i hope this can also help anyone.

Programmatically check Play Store for app updates

There's AppUpdater library. How to include:

  1. Add the repository to your project build.gradle:
allprojects {
    repositories {
        jcenter()
        maven {
            url "https://jitpack.io"
        }
    }
}
  1. Add the library to your module build.gradle:
dependencies {
    compile 'com.github.javiersantos:AppUpdater:2.6.4'
}
  1. Add INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions to your app's Manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE"/>
  1. Add this to your activity:
AppUpdater appUpdater = new AppUpdater(this);
appUpdater.start();

ClassNotFoundException com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

In IntelliJ Do as they say in eclipse "If you're facing this problem with Eclipse, I've been following many different solutions but the one that worked for me is this:

Right click your project folder and open up Properties.

From the right panel, select Java Build Path then go to Libraries tab.

Select Add External JARs to import the mysql driver.

From the right panel, select Deployment Assembly.

Select Add..., then select Java Build Path Entries and click Next.

You should see the sql driver on the list. Select it and click first.

And that's it! Try to run it again! Cheers!"

Here we have to add the jar file in Project Structure -> Libraries -> +(add)

How to Copy Text to Clip Board in Android?

In ASP.NET, when should I use Session.Clear() rather than Session.Abandon()?

Only using Session.Clear() when a user logs out can pose a security hole. As the session is still valid as far as the Web Server is concerned. It is then a reasonably trivial matter to sniff, and grab the session Id, and hijack that session.

For this reason, when logging a user out it would be safer and more sensible to use Session.Abandon() so that the session is destroyed, and a new session created (even though the logout UI page would be part of the new session, the new session would not have any of the users details in it and hijacking the new session would be equivalent to having a fresh session, hence it would be mute).

How to save LogCat contents to file?

Use logcat tool with -d or -f switch and exec() method.

Saving to a file on the host computer:

exec( "adb logcat -d > logcat.log" ) // logcat is written to logcat.log file on the host.

If you are just saving to a file on the device itself, you can use:

exec( "adb logcat -f logcat.log" ) // logcat is written to logcat.log file on the device.

Missing Push Notification Entitlement

I got this message for a different reason -- I submitted an app via Xcode without first creating an App Store Distribution Profile specifically for the app. I believe Xcode automatically uses a wildcard App Store profile if you have one installed. But an app uses Push Notifications requires its own profile.

The fix is to create a new App Store Distribution profile for the app. Then you download it, drag it onto Xcode, and modify your project Build Settings > Code Signing > Release to use the new profile.

Call a Javascript function every 5 seconds continuously

Do a "recursive" setTimeout of your function, and it will keep being executed every amount of time defined:

function yourFunction(){
    // do whatever you like here

    setTimeout(yourFunction, 5000);
}

yourFunction();

Why am I getting error CS0246: The type or namespace name could not be found?

I have resolved this problem by adding the reference to System.Web.

How to extract svg as file from web page

Unless I am misunderstanding you, this could be as easy as inspecting (F12) the icon on the page to reveal its .svg source file path, going to that path directly (Example), and then viewing the page source code with Control+u. Then just save that code.

Minimum rights required to run a windows service as a domain account

I do know that the account needs to have "Log on as a Service" privileges. Other than that, I'm not sure. A quick reference to Log on as a Service can be found here, and there is a lot of information of specific privileges here.

Javascript, Change google map marker color

You can use this code it works fine.

How to get current date in jquery?

you can use this code:

var nowDate     = new Date();
var nowDay      = ((nowDate.getDate().toString().length) == 1) ? '0'+(nowDate.getDate()) : (nowDate.getDate());
var nowMonth    = ((nowDate.getMonth().toString().length) == 1) ? '0'+(nowDate.getMonth()+1) : (nowDate.getMonth()+1);

How to pass arguments to entrypoint in docker-compose.yml

The command clause does work as @Karthik says above.

As a simple example, the following service will have a -inMemory added to its ENTRYPOINT when docker-compose up is run.

services:
  local-dynamo:
    build: local-dynamo
    image: spud/dynamo
    command: -inMemory

How do I create a MessageBox in C#?

Try below code:

MessageBox.Show("Test Information Message", "Caption", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information);

System.Threading.Timer in C# it seems to be not working. It runs very fast every 3 second

I would just do:

private static Timer timer;
 private static void Main()
 {
   timer = new Timer(_ => OnCallBack(), null, 1000 * 10,Timeout.Infinite); //in 10 seconds
   Console.ReadLine();
 }

  private static void OnCallBack()
  {
    timer.Dispose();
    Thread.Sleep(3000); //doing some long operation
    timer = new Timer(_ => OnCallBack(), null, 1000 * 10,Timeout.Infinite); //in 10 seconds
  }

And ignore the period parameter, since you're attempting to control the periodicy yourself.

Your original code is running as fast as possible, since you keep specifying 0 for the dueTime parameter. From Timer.Change:

If dueTime is zero (0), the callback method is invoked immediately.

SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

What does "javax.naming.NoInitialContextException" mean?

It means that there is no initial context :)

But seriously folks, JNDI (javax.naming) is all about looking up objects or resources from some directory or provider. To look something up, you need somewhere to look (this is the InitialContext). NoInitialContextException means "I want to find the telephone number for John Smith, but I have no phonebook to look in".

An InitialContext can be created in any number of ways. It can be done manually, for instance creating a connection to an LDAP server. It can also be set up by an application server inside which you run your application. In this case, the container (application server) already provides you with a "phonebook", through which you can look up anything the application server makes available. This is often configurable and a common way of moving this type of configuration from the application implementation to the container, where it can be shared across all applications in the server.

UPDATE: from the code snippet you post it looks like you are trying to run code stand-alone that is meant to be run in an application server. In this case, the code attempting to get a connection to a database from the "phonebook". This is one of the resources that is often configured in the application server container. So, rather than having to manage configuration and connections to the database in your code, you can configure it in your application server and simple ask for a connection (using JNDI) in your code.

IF - ELSE IF - ELSE Structure in Excel

When FIND returns #VALUE!, it is an error, not a string, so you can't compare FIND(...) with "#VALUE!", you need to check if FIND returns an error with ISERROR. Also FIND can work on multiple characters.

So a simplified and working version of your formula would be:

=IF(ISERROR(FIND("abc",A1))=FALSE, "Green", IF(ISERROR(FIND("xyz",A1))=FALSE, "Yellow", "Red"))

Or, to remove the double negations:

=IF(ISERROR(FIND("abc",A1)), IF(ISERROR(FIND("xyz",A1)), "Red", "Yellow"),"Green")

Deleting rows with MySQL LEFT JOIN

If you are using "table as", then specify it to delete.

In the example i delete all table_1 rows which are do not exists in table_2.

How to restart adb from root to user mode?

adb kill-server and adb start-server only control the adb daemon on the PC side. You need to restart adbd daemon on the device itself after reverting the service.adb.root property change done by adb root:

~$ adb shell id
uid=2000(shell) gid=2000(shell)

~$ adb root
restarting adbd as root

~$ adb shell id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)

~$ adb shell 'setprop service.adb.root 0; setprop ctl.restart adbd'

~$ adb shell id
uid=2000(shell) gid=2000(shell)

How do you check if a certain index exists in a table?

AdaTheDEV, I used your syntax and created the following and why.

Problem: Process runs once a quarter taking an hour due to missing index.

Correction: Alter query process or Procedure to check for index and create it if missing... Same code is placed at the end of the query and procedure to remove index since it is not needed but quarterly. Showing Only drop syntax here

CURRENT_TIMESTAMP in milliseconds

Do as follows for milliseconds:

select round(date_format(CURTIME(3), "%f")/1000)

You can get microseconds by the following:

select date_format(CURTIME(6), "%f")

Inline elements shifting when made bold on hover

I really can't stand it when someone tells you not to do something that way when there's a simple solution to the problem. I'm not sure about li elements, but I just fixed the same issue. I have a menu consisting of div tags.

Just set the div tag to be "display: inline-block". Inline so they sit next to each other and block to that you can set a width. Just set the width wide enough to accomodate for the bolded text and have the text center aligned.

(Note: It seems to be stripping out my html [below], but each menu item had a div tag wrapped around it with the corrasponding ID and the class name SearchBar_Cateogory. ie: <div id="ROS_SearchSermons" class="SearchBar_Category">

HTML (I had anchor tags wrapped around each menu item, but i wasn't able to submit them as a new user)

<div id="ROS_SearchSermons" class="SearchBar_Cateogry bold">Sermons</div>|
<div id="ROS_SearchIllustrations" class="SearchBar_Cateogry">Illustrations</div>|
<div id="ROS_SearchVideos" class="SearchBar_Cateogry">Videos</div>|
<div id="ROS_SearchPowerPoints" class="SearchBar_Cateogry">PowerPoints</div>|
<div id="ROS_SearchScripture" class="SearchBar_Cateogry">Scripture</div>|

CSS:

#ROS_SearchSermons { width: 75px; }
#ROS_SearchIllustrations { width: 90px; }
#ROS_SearchVideos { width: 55px; }
#ROS_SearchPowerPoints { width: 90px; }
#ROS_SearchScripture { width: 70px; }

.SearchBar_Cateogry
{
    display: inline-block;
    text-align:center;

In a Django form, how do I make a field readonly (or disabled) so that it cannot be edited?

Is this the simplest way?

Right in a view code something like this:

def resume_edit(request, r_id):
    .....
    r = Resume.get.object(pk=r_id)
    resume = ResumeModelForm(instance=r)
    .....
    resume.fields['email'].widget.attrs['readonly'] = True
    .....
    return render(request, 'resumes/resume.html', context)

It works fine!

excel delete row if column contains value from to-remove-list

Given sheet 2:

ColumnA
-------
apple
orange

You can flag the rows in sheet 1 where a value exists in sheet 2:

ColumnA  ColumnB
-------  --------------
pear     =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
apple    =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
cherry   =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A3,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
orange   =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A4,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")
plum     =IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A5,Sheet2!A:A,1,FALSE)),"Keep","Delete")

The resulting data looks like this:

ColumnA  ColumnB
-------  --------------
pear     Keep
apple    Delete
cherry   Keep
orange   Delete
plum     Keep

You can then easily filter or sort sheet 1 and delete the rows flagged with 'Delete'.

Adding a dictionary to another

The most obvious way is:

foreach(var kvp in NewAnimals)
   Animals.Add(kvp.Key, kvp.Value);
  //use Animals[kvp.Key] = kvp.Value instead if duplicate keys are an issue

Since Dictionary<TKey, TValue>explicitly implements theICollection<KeyValuePair<TKey, TValue>>.Addmethod, you can also do this:

var animalsAsCollection = (ICollection<KeyValuePair<string, string>>) Animals;

foreach(var kvp in NewAnimals)
   animalsAsCollection.Add(kvp);

It's a pity the class doesn't have anAddRangemethod likeList<T> does.

Android Studio - How to Change Android SDK Path

From the quick start window, choose Configure, then choose Project Defaults, and then choose Project Structure. Then on the left under Platform Settings choose SDKs. Then to the right of that choose the current android platform, mine was Android 4.2.2 Platform, and delete it using the red minus button at the top, then add a new android platform using the green plus button at the top and point it to your current SDK folder and that is it.

Java ArrayList copy

Java doesn't pass objects, it passes references (pointers) to objects. So yes, l2 and l1 are two pointers to the same object.

You have to make an explicit copy if you need two different list with the same contents.

How to format a DateTime in PowerShell

One thing you could do is:

How to copy data from one HDFS to another HDFS?

distcp is used for copying data to and from the hadoop filesystems in parallel. It is similar to the generic hadoop fs -cp command. In the background process, distcp is implemented as a MapReduce job where mappers are only implemented for copying in parallel across the cluster.

Usage:

  • copy one file to another

    % hadoop distcp file1 file2

  • copy directories from one location to another

    % hadoop distcp dir1 dir2

If dir2 doesn't exist then it will create that folder and copy the contents. If dir2 already exists, then dir1 will be copied under it. -overwrite option forces the files to be overwritten within the same folder. -update option updates only the files that are changed.

  • transferring data between two HDFS clusters

    % hadoop distcp -update -delete hdfs://nn1/dir1 hdfs://nn2/dir2

-delete option deletes the files or directories from the destination that are not present in the source.

Can I multiply strings in Java to repeat sequences?

Java 8 provides a way (albeit a little clunky). As a method:

public static String repeat(String s, int n) {
    return Stream.generate(() -> s).limit(n).collect(Collectors.joining(""));
}

or less efficient, but nicer looking IMHO:

public static String repeat(String s, int n) {
    return Stream.generate(() -> s).limit(n).reduce((a, b) -> a + b);
}

YouTube iframe API: how do I control an iframe player that's already in the HTML?

Thank you Rob W for your answer.

I have been using this within a Cordova application to avoid having to load the API and so that I can easily control iframes which are loaded dynamically.

I always wanted the ability to be able to extract information from the iframe, such as the state (getPlayerState) and the time (getCurrentTime).

Rob W helped highlight how the API works using postMessage, but of course this only sends information in one direction, from our web page into the iframe. Accessing the getters requires us to listen for messages posted back to us from the iframe.

It took me some time to figure out how to tweak Rob W's answer to activate and listen to the messages returned by the iframe. I basically searched through the source code within the YouTube iframe until I found the code responsible for sending and receiving messages.

The key was changing the 'event' to 'listening', this basically gave access to all the methods which were designed to return values.

Below is my solution, please note that I have switched to 'listening' only when getters are requested, you can tweak the condition to include extra methods.

Note further that you can view all messages sent from the iframe by adding a console.log(e) to the window.onmessage. You will notice that once listening is activated you will receive constant updates which include the current time of the video. Calling getters such as getPlayerState will activate these constant updates but will only send a message involving the video state when the state has changed.

function callPlayer(iframe, func, args) {
    iframe=document.getElementById(iframe);
    var event = "command";
    if(func.indexOf('get')>-1){
        event = "listening";
    }

    if ( iframe&&iframe.src.indexOf('youtube.com/embed') !== -1) {
      iframe.contentWindow.postMessage( JSON.stringify({
          'event': event,
          'func': func,
          'args': args || []
      }), '*');
    }
}
window.onmessage = function(e){
    var data = JSON.parse(e.data);
    data = data.info;
    if(data.currentTime){
        console.log("The current time is "+data.currentTime);
    }
    if(data.playerState){
        console.log("The player state is "+data.playerState);
    }
}

Why does ANT tell me that JAVA_HOME is wrong when it is not?

Just set the JDK path from the below steps:

  1. Go to 'Run' ->External Tools -> External Tools Configuration

  2. -> Select 'JRE' Then from the DropDown list select the available JDK . ex. jdk1.8.0_25

Transpose a data frame

df.aree <- as.data.frame(t(df.aree))
colnames(df.aree) <- df.aree[1, ]
df.aree <- df.aree[-1, ]
df.aree$myfactor <- factor(row.names(df.aree))

Count the number of times a string appears within a string

Your regular expression should be \btrue\b to get around the 'miscontrue' issue Casper brings up. The full solution would look like this:

string searchText = "7,true,NA,false:67,false,NA,false:5,false,NA,false:5,false,NA,false";
string regexPattern = @"\btrue\b";
int numberOfTrues = Regex.Matches(searchText, regexPattern).Count;

Make sure the System.Text.RegularExpressions namespace is included at the top of the file.

Foreign keys in mongo?

From The Little MongoDB Book

Yet another alternative to using joins is to denormalize your data. Historically, denormalization was reserved for performance-sensitive code, or when data should be snapshotted (like in an audit log). However, with the ever- growing popularity of NoSQL, many of which don’t have joins, denormalization as part of normal modeling is becoming increasingly common. This doesn’t mean you should duplicate every piece of information in every document. However, rather than letting fear of duplicate data drive your design decisions, consider modeling your data based on what information belongs to what document.

So,

student
{
    _id: ObjectId(...),
    name: 'Jane',
    courses: [
    {
        name: 'Biology 101',
        mark: 85,
        id:bio101
    },
  ]
}

If its a RESTful API data, replace the course id with a GET link to the course resource

Automatic Preferred Max Layout Width is not available on iOS versions prior to 8.0

I had this issue and was able to fix it by adding constraints to determine the max with for a label.

When dropping a multiline label in there is not constraint set to enforce the width inside the parent view. This is where the new PreferredMaxWidth comes into play. On iOS 7 and earlier you have to define the max width yourself. I simply added a 10px constraint to the left and right hand side of the label.

You can also add a <= width constraint which also fixes the issue.

So this is not actually a bug, you simply have to define the max width yourself. The explicit option mention in other answer will also work as you are setting this width value however you will have to modify this value if you want the max width to change based on the parent width (as you have explicitly set the width).

My above solution ensures the width is always maintained no matter how big the parent view is.

Can I set an opacity only to the background image of a div?

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head></head>
<body>
<div style=" background-color: #00000088"> Hi there </div>
<!-- #00 would be r, 00 would be g, 00 would be b, 88 would be a. -->
</body>
</html>

including 4 sets of numbers would make it rgba, not cmyk, but either way would work (rgba= 00000088, cmyk= 0%, 0%, 0%, 50%)

Split string with multiple delimiters in Python

Here's a safe way for any iterable of delimiters, using regular expressions:

>>> import re
>>> delimiters = "a", "...", "(c)"
>>> example = "stackoverflow (c) is awesome... isn't it?"
>>> regexPattern = '|'.join(map(re.escape, delimiters))
>>> regexPattern
'a|\\.\\.\\.|\\(c\\)'
>>> re.split(regexPattern, example)
['st', 'ckoverflow ', ' is ', 'wesome', " isn't it?"]

re.escape allows to build the pattern automatically and have the delimiters escaped nicely.

Here's this solution as a function for your copy-pasting pleasure:

def split(delimiters, string, maxsplit=0):
    import re
    regexPattern = '|'.join(map(re.escape, delimiters))
    return re.split(regexPattern, string, maxsplit)

If you're going to split often using the same delimiters, compile your regular expression beforehand like described and use RegexObject.split.

If you'd like to leave the original delimiters in the string, you can change the regex to use a lookbehind assertion instead:

>>> import re
>>> delimiters = "a", "...", "(c)"
>>> example = "stackoverflow (c) is awesome... isn't it?"
>>> regexPattern = '|'.join('(?<={})'.format(re.escape(delim)) for delim in delimiters)
>>> regexPattern
'(?<=a)|(?<=\\.\\.\\.)|(?<=\\(c\\))'
>>> re.split(regexPattern, example)
['sta', 'ckoverflow (c)', ' is a', 'wesome...', " isn't it?"]

(replace ?<= with ?= to attach the delimiters to the righthand side, instead of left)

Window vs Page vs UserControl for WPF navigation?

We usually use One Main Window for the application and other windows can be used in situations like when you need popups because instead of using popup controls in XAML which are not visible we can use a Window that is visible at design time so that'll be easy to work with

on the other hand we use many pages to navigate from one screen to another like User management screen to Order Screen etc In the main Window we can use Frame control for navigation like below XAML

    <Frame Name="mainWinFrame" NavigationUIVisibility="Hidden"  ButtonBase.Click="mainWinFrame_Click">
    </Frame>

C#

     private void mainWinFrame_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
        try
        {
            if (e.OriginalSource is Button)
            {
                Button btn = (Button)e.OriginalSource;

                if ((btn.CommandParameter != null) && (btn.CommandParameter.Equals("Order")))
                {

                    mainWinFrame.Navigate(OrderPage);
                }
            }
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error");
        }
    }

That's one way of doing it We can also use a Tab Control instead of Fram and Add pages to it using a Dictionary while adding new page check if the control already exists then only navigate otherwise add and navigate. I hope that'll help someone

How to use "Share image using" sharing Intent to share images in android?

Here is a solution that worked for me. One gotcha is you need to store the images in a shared or non app private location (http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#InternalCache)

Many suggestions say to store in the Apps "private" cache location but this of course is not accessable via other external applications, including the generic Share File intent which is being utilised. When you try this, it will run but for example dropbox will tell you the file is no longer available.

/* STEP 1 - Save bitmap file locally using file save function below. */

localAbsoluteFilePath = saveImageLocally(bitmapImage);

/* STEP 2 - Share the non private Absolute file path to the share file intent */

if (localAbsoluteFilePath!=null && localAbsoluteFilePath!="") {

    Intent shareIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND);
    Uri phototUri = Uri.parse(localAbsoluteFilePath);

    File file = new File(phototUri.getPath());

    Log.d(TAG, "file path: " +file.getPath());

    if(file.exists()) {
        // file create success

    } else {
        // file create fail
    }
    shareIntent.setData(phototUri);
    shareIntent.setType("image/png");
    shareIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, phototUri);
    activity.startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(shareIntent, "Share Via"), Navigator.REQUEST_SHARE_ACTION);
}

/* SAVE IMAGE FUNCTION */

    private String saveImageLocally(Bitmap _bitmap) {

        File outputDir = Utils.getAlbumStorageDir(Environment.DIRECTORY_DOWNLOADS);
        File outputFile = null;
        try {
            outputFile = File.createTempFile("tmp", ".png", outputDir);
        } catch (IOException e1) {
            // handle exception
        }

        try {
            FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(outputFile);
            _bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 90, out);
            out.close();

        } catch (Exception e) {
            // handle exception
        }

        return outputFile.getAbsolutePath();
    }

/* STEP 3 - Handle Share File Intent result. Need to remote temporary file etc. */

    @Override
    public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
        super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);

            // deal with this with whatever constant you use. i have a navigator object to handle my navigation so it also holds all mys constants for intents
        if (requestCode== Navigator.REQUEST_SHARE_ACTION) {
            // delete temp file
            File file = new File (localAbsoluteFilePath);
            file.delete();

            Toaster toast = new Toaster(activity);
            toast.popBurntToast("Successfully shared");
        }

    }

I hope that helps someone.

PHP: How do I display the contents of a textfile on my page?

How to send an HTTP request using Telnet

For posterity, your question was how to send an http request to https://stackoverflow.com/questions. The real answer is: you cannot with telnet, cause this is an https-only reachable url.

So, you might want to use openssl instead of telnet, like this for instance

$ openssl s_client -connect stackoverflow.com:443
...
---
GET /questions HTTP/1.1
Host: stackoverflow.com

This will give you the https response.

twitter bootstrap autocomplete dropdown / combobox with Knockoutjs

How to load images dynamically (or lazily) when users scrolls them into view

(Edit: replaced broken links with archived copies)

Dave Artz of AOL gave a great talk on optimization at jQuery Conference Boston last year. AOL uses a tool called Sonar for on-demand loading based on scroll position. Check the code for the particulars of how it compares scrollTop (and others) to the element offset to detect if part or all of the element is visible.

jQuery Sonar

Dave talks about Sonar in these slides. Sonar starts on slide 46, while the overall "load on demand" discussion starts on slide 33.

How to delete duplicate lines in a file without sorting it in Unix?

The one-liner that Andre Miller posted above works except for recent versions of sed when the input file ends with a blank line and no chars. On my Mac my CPU just spins.

Infinite loop if last line is blank and has no chars:

sed '$!N; /^\(.*\)\n\1$/!P; D'

Doesn't hang, but you lose the last line

sed '$d;N; /^\(.*\)\n\1$/!P; D'

The explanation is at the very end of the sed FAQ:

The GNU sed maintainer felt that despite the portability problems
this would cause, changing the N command to print (rather than
delete) the pattern space was more consistent with one's intuitions
about how a command to "append the Next line" ought to behave.
Another fact favoring the change was that "{N;command;}" will
delete the last line if the file has an odd number of lines, but
print the last line if the file has an even number of lines.

To convert scripts which used the former behavior of N (deleting
the pattern space upon reaching the EOF) to scripts compatible with
all versions of sed, change a lone "N;" to "$d;N;".

jQuery load more data on scroll

Have you heard about the jQuery Waypoint plugin.

Below is the simple way of calling a waypoints plugin and having the page load more Content once you reaches the bottom on scroll :

$(document).ready(function() {
    var $loading = $("<div class='loading'><p>Loading more items&hellip;</p></div>"),
    $footer = $('footer'),
    opts = {
        offset: '100%'
    };

    $footer.waypoint(function(event, direction) {
        $footer.waypoint('remove');
        $('body').append($loading);
        $.get($('.more a').attr('href'), function(data) {
            var $data = $(data);
            $('#container').append($data.find('.article'));
            $loading.detach();
            $('.more').replaceWith($data.find('.more'));
            $footer.waypoint(opts);
        });
    }, opts);
});

Remove an item from array using UnderscoreJS

Use can use plain JavaScript's Array#filter method like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var arr = [{id:1,name:'a'},{id:2,name:'b'},{id:3,name:'c'}];_x000D_
_x000D_
var filteredArr = arr.filter(obj => obj.id != 3);_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(filteredArr);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Or, use Array#reduce and Array#concat methods like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var arr = [{id:1,name:'a'},{id:2,name:'b'},{id:3,name:'c'}];_x000D_
_x000D_
var reducedArr = arr.reduce((accumulator, currObj) => {_x000D_
  return (currObj.id != 3) ? accumulator.concat(currObj) : accumulator;_x000D_
}, []);_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(reducedArr);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

NOTE:

  • Both of these are pure functional approach (i.e. they don't modify the existing array).
  • No, external library is required in these approach (Vanilla JavaScript is enough).

Makefile ifeq logical or

How to reload / refresh model data from the server programmatically?

Before I show you how to reload / refresh model data from the server programmatically? I have to explain for you the concept of Data Binding. This is an extremely powerful concept that will truly revolutionize the way you develop. So may be you have to read about this concept from this link or this seconde link in order to unterstand how AngularjS work.

now I'll show you a sample example that exaplain how can you update your model from server.

HTML Code:

<div ng-controller="PersonListCtrl">
    <ul>
        <li ng-repeat="person in persons">
            Name: {{person.name}}, Age {{person.age}}
        </li>
    </ul>
   <button ng-click="updateData()">Refresh Data</button>
</div>

So our controller named: PersonListCtrl and our Model named: persons. go to your Controller js in order to develop the function named: updateData() that will be invoked when we are need to update and refresh our Model persons.

Javascript Code:

app.controller('adsController', function($log,$scope,...){

.....

$scope.updateData = function(){
$http.get('/persons').success(function(data) {
       $scope.persons = data;// Update Model-- Line X
     });
}

});

Now I explain for you how it work: when user click on button Refresh Data, the server will call to function updateData() and inside this function we will invoke our web service by the function $http.get() and when we have the result from our ws we will affect it to our model (Line X).Dice that affects the results for our model, our View of this list will be changed with new Data.

Enabling SSL with XAMPP

There is a better guide here for Windows:

https://shellcreeper.com/how-to-create-valid-ssl-in-localhost-for-xampp/

Basic steps:

  1. Create an SSL certificate for your local domain using this: See more details in the link above https://gist.github.com/turtlepod/3b8d8d0eef29de019951aa9d9dcba546 https://gist.github.com/turtlepod/e94928cddbfc46cfbaf8c3e5856577d0

  2. Install this cert in Windows (Trusted Root Certification Authorities) See more details in the link above

  3. Add the site in Windows hosts (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts) E.g.: 127.0.0.1 site.test

  4. Add the site in XAMPP conf (C:\xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf) E.g.:

     <VirtualHost *:80>
        DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs"
        ServerName site.test
        ServerAlias *.site.test
     </VirtualHost>
     <VirtualHost *:443>
        DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs"
        ServerName site.test
        ServerAlias *.site.test
        SSLEngine on
        SSLCertificateFile "crt/site.test/server.crt"
        SSLCertificateKeyFile "crt/site.test/server.key"
     </VirtualHost>

  5. Restart Apache and your browser and it's done!

HttpServlet cannot be resolved to a type .... is this a bug in eclipse?

A simple solution for me was to go to Properties -> Java Build Path -> Order and Export, then check the Apache Tomcat library. This is assumes you've already set Tomcat as your deployment target and are still getting the error.

When to throw an exception?

My personal guideline is: an exception is thrown when a fundamental assumption of the current code block is found to be false.

Example 1: say I have a function which is supposed to examine an arbitrary class and return true if that class inherits from List<>. This function asks the question, "Is this object a descendant of List?" This function should never throw an exception, because there are no gray areas in its operation - every single class either does or does not inherit from List<>, so the answer is always "yes" or "no".

Example 2: say I have another function which examines a List<> and returns true if its length is more than 50, and false if the length is less. This function asks the question, "Does this list have more than 50 items?" But this question makes an assumption - it assumes that the object it is given is a list. If I hand it a NULL, then that assumption is false. In that case, if the function returns either true or false, then it is breaking its own rules. The function cannot return anything and claim that it answered the question correctly. So it doesn't return - it throws an exception.

This is comparable to the "loaded question" logical fallacy. Every function asks a question. If the input it is given makes that question a fallacy, then throw an exception. This line is harder to draw with functions that return void, but the bottom line is: if the function's assumptions about its inputs are violated, it should throw an exception instead of returning normally.

The other side of this equation is: if you find your functions throwing exceptions frequently, then you probably need to refine their assumptions.
