Javascript to export html table to Excel

If you add:

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/plain; charset=UTF-8"/>

in the head of the document it will start working as expected:

<script type="text/javascript">
var tableToExcel = (function() {
  var uri = 'data:application/vnd.ms-excel;base64,'
    , template = '<html xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns:x="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:excel" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"><head><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml><x:ExcelWorkbook><x:ExcelWorksheets><x:ExcelWorksheet><x:Name>{worksheet}</x:Name><x:WorksheetOptions><x:DisplayGridlines/></x:WorksheetOptions></x:ExcelWorksheet></x:ExcelWorksheets></x:ExcelWorkbook></xml><![endif]--><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/plain; charset=UTF-8"/></head><body><table>{table}</table></body></html>'
    , base64 = function(s) { return window.btoa(unescape(encodeURIComponent(s))) }
    , format = function(s, c) { return s.replace(/{(\w+)}/g, function(m, p) { return c[p]; }) }
  return function(table, name) {
    if (!table.nodeType) table = document.getElementById(table)
    var ctx = {worksheet: name || 'Worksheet', table: table.innerHTML}
    window.location.href = uri + base64(format(template, ctx))
  }
})()
</script>

How do I find out if the GPS of an Android device is enabled

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Create services running in background.

Step 2: You require following permission in Manifest file too:

android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION

Step 3: Write code:

 final LocationManager manager = (LocationManager)context.getSystemService    (Context.LOCATION_SERVICE );

if ( !manager.isProviderEnabled( LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER ) )
  Toast.makeText(context, "GPS is disabled!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
else
  Toast.makeText(context, "GPS is enabled!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();

Step 4: Or simply you can check using:

LocationManager manager = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE );
boolean statusOfGPS = manager.isProviderEnabled(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER);

Step 5: Run your services continuously to monitor connection.

How to URL encode in Python 3?

You misread the documentation. You need to do two things:

  1. Quote each key and value from your dictionary, and
  2. Encode those into a URL

Luckily urllib.parse.urlencode does both those things in a single step, and that's the function you should be using.

from urllib.parse import urlencode, quote_plus

payload = {'username':'administrator', 'password':'xyz'}
result = urlencode(payload, quote_via=quote_plus)
# 'password=xyz&username=administrator'

Set the location in iPhone Simulator

The kind folks at FutureTap have made the FTLocationSimulator available for free at GitHub. It allows you to prepare a test route using for instance Google Earth, and then have the simulator feed these coordinates to your app.

I've written a blog post about how to use FTLocationSimulator to easily switch between multiple routes during testing of the location features.

System.Drawing.Image to stream C#

public static Stream ToStream(this Image image)

HTML5 Video Stop onClose

The problem may be with jquery selector you've chosen $("video") is not a selector

The right selector may be putting an id element for video tag i.e.
Let's say your video element looks like this:

<video id="vid1" width="480" height="267" oster="example.jpg" durationHint="33">
    <source src="video1.ogv" />
    <source src="video2.ogv" />
</video>

Then you can select it via $("#vid1") with hash mark (#), id selector in jquery. If a video element is exposed in function,then you have access to HtmlVideoElement (HtmlMediaElement).This elements has control over video element,in your case you can use pause() method for your video element.

Check reference for VideoElement here.
Also check that there is a fallback reference here.

How can I get last characters of a string

If you just want the last character or any character at know position you can simply trat string as an array! - strings are iteratorable in javascript -

Var x = "hello_world";
 x[0];                    //h
 x[x.length-1];   //d

Yet if you need more than just one character then use splice is effective

x.slice(-5);      //world

Regarding your example

"rating_element-<?php echo $id?>"

To extract id you can easily use split + pop

Id= inputId.split('rating_element-')[1];

This will return the id, or undefined if no id was after 'rating_element' :)

Encoding URL query parameters in Java

The built in Java URLEncoder is doing what it's supposed to, and you should use it.

A "+" or "%20" are both valid replacements for a space character in a URL. Either one will work.

A ":" should be encoded, as it's a separator character. i.e. http://foo or ftp://bar. The fact that a particular browser can handle it when it's not encoded doesn't make it correct. You should encode them.

As a matter of good practice, be sure to use the method that takes a character encoding parameter. UTF-8 is generally used there, but you should supply it explicitly.

URLEncoder.encode(yourUrl, "UTF-8");

How to create multiple page app using react

This is a broad question and there are multiple ways you can achieve this. In my experience, I've seen a lot of single page applications having an entry point file such as index.js. This file would be responsible for 'bootstrapping' the application and will be your entry point for webpack.

index.js

import React from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';
import Application from './components/Application';

const root = document.getElementById('someElementIdHere');

ReactDOM.render(
  <Application />,
  root,
);

Your <Application /> component would contain the next pieces of your app. You've stated you want different pages and that leads me to believe you're using some sort of routing. That could be included into this component along with any libraries that need to be invoked on application start. react-router, redux, redux-saga, react-devtools come to mind. This way, you'll only need to add a single entry point into your webpack configuration and everything will trickle down in a sense.

When you've setup a router, you'll have options to set a component to a specific matched route. If you had a URL of /about, you should create the route in whatever routing package you're using and create a component of About.js with whatever information you need.

How to add a new line in textarea element?

Try this one:

_x000D_
_x000D_
    <textarea cols='60' rows='8'>This is my statement one.&#13;&#10;This is my statement2</textarea>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

&#10; Line Feed and &#13; Carriage Return are HTML entitieswikipedia. This way you are actually parsing the new line ("\n") rather than displaying it as text.

Bootstrap 3.0 Popovers and tooltips

Turns out that Evan Larsen has the best answer. Please upvote his answer (and/or select it as the correct answer) - it's brilliant.

Working jsFiddle here

Using Evan's trick, you can instantiate all tooltips with one line of code:

$('[data-toggle="tooltip"]').tooltip({'placement': 'top'});

You will see that all tooltips in your long paragraph have working tooltips with just that one line.

In the jsFiddle example (link above), I also added a situation where one tooltip (by the Sign-In button) is ON by default. Also, the tooltip code is ADDED to the button in jQuery, not in the HTML markup.

Popovers do work the same as the tooltips:

$('[data-toggle="popover"]').popover({trigger: 'hover','placement': 'top'});

And there you have it! Success at last.

One of the biggest problems in figuring this stuff out was making bootstrap work with jsFiddle... Here's what you must do:

  1. Get reference for Twitter Bootstrap CDN from here: http://www.bootstrapcdn.com/
  2. Paste each link into notepad and strip out ALL except the URL. For example:
    //netdna.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.0.0/css/bootstrap.min.css
  3. In jsFiddle, on left side, open the External Resources accordion dropdown
  4. Paste in each URL, pressing plus sign after each paste
  5. Now, open the "Frameworks & Extensions" accordion dropdown, and select jQuery 1.9.1 (or whichever...)

NOW you are ready to go.

Convert unix time to readable date in pandas dataframe

Alternatively, by changing a line of the above code:

# df.date = df.date.apply(lambda d: datetime.strptime(d, "%Y-%m-%d"))
df.date = df.date.apply(lambda d: datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp(int(d)).strftime('%Y-%m-%d'))

It should also work.

How to declare std::unique_ptr and what is the use of it?

There is no difference in working in both the concepts of assignment to unique_ptr.

int* intPtr = new int(3);
unique_ptr<int> uptr (intPtr);

is similar to

unique_ptr<int> uptr (new int(3));

Here unique_ptr automatically deletes the space occupied by uptr.

how pointers, declared in this way will be different from the pointers declared in a "normal" way.

If you create an integer in heap space (using new keyword or malloc), then you will have to clear that memory on your own (using delete or free respectively).

In the below code,

int* heapInt = new int(5);//initialize int in heap memory
.
.//use heapInt
.
delete heapInt;

Here, you will have to delete heapInt, when it is done using. If it is not deleted, then memory leakage occurs.

In order to avoid such memory leaks unique_ptr is used, where unique_ptr automatically deletes the space occupied by heapInt when it goes out of scope. So, you need not do delete or free for unique_ptr.

How to convert .pfx file to keystore with private key?

Using JDK 1.6 or later

It has been pointed out by Justin in the comments below that keytool alone is capable of doing this using the following command (although only in JDK 1.6 and later):

keytool -importkeystore -srckeystore mypfxfile.pfx -srcstoretype pkcs12
-destkeystore clientcert.jks -deststoretype JKS

Using JDK 1.5 or below

OpenSSL can do it all. This answer on JGuru is the best method that I've found so far.

Firstly make sure that you have OpenSSL installed. Many operating systems already have it installed as I found with Mac OS X.

The following two commands convert the pfx file to a format that can be opened as a Java PKCS12 key store:

openssl pkcs12 -in mypfxfile.pfx -out mypemfile.pem
openssl pkcs12 -export -in mypemfile.pem -out mykeystore.p12 -name "MyCert"

NOTE that the name provided in the second command is the alias of your key in the new key store.

You can verify the contents of the key store using the Java keytool utility with the following command:

keytool -v -list -keystore mykeystore.p12 -storetype pkcs12

Finally if you need to you can convert this to a JKS key store by importing the key store created above into a new key store:

keytool -importkeystore -srckeystore mykeystore.p12 -destkeystore clientcert.jks -srcstoretype pkcs12 -deststoretype JKS

Converting string to date in mongodb

You can use the javascript in the second link provided by Ravi Khakhkhar or you are going to have to perform some string manipulation to convert your orginal string (as some of the special characters in your original format aren't being recognised as valid delimeters) but once you do that, you can use "new"

How to launch Windows Scheduler by command-line?

You might want to have look at simple command line scheduler "at":

C:\Documents and Settings\mahendra.patil>at/?

The AT command schedules commands and programs to run on a computer at a specified time and date. The Schedule service must be running to use the AT command.

AT [\\computername] [ [id] [/DELETE] | /DELETE [/YES]]
AT [\\computername] time [/INTERACTIVE]
    [ /EVERY:date[,...] | /NEXT:date[,...]] "command"

\computername Specifies a remote computer. Commands are scheduled on the local computer if this parameter is omitted.

id Is an identification number assigned to a scheduled command.

/delete Cancels a scheduled command. If id is omitted, all the scheduled commands on the computer are canceled.

/yes Used with cancel all jobs command when no further confirmation is desired.

time Specifies the time when command is to run.

/interactive Allows the job to interact with the desktop of the user who is logged on at the time the job runs.

/every:date[,...] Runs the command on each specified day(s) of the week or month. If date is omitted, the current day of the month is assumed.

/next:date[,...] Runs the specified command on the next occurrence of the day (for example, next Thursday). If date is omitted, the current day of the month is assumed.

"command" Is the Windows NT command, or batch program to be run.

Why does z-index not work?

Make sure that this element you would like to control with z-index does not have a parent with z-index property, because element is in a lower stacking context due to its parent’s z-index level.

Here's an example:

<section class="content">
    <div class="modal"></div>
</section>

<div class="side-tab"></div>

// CSS //
.content {
    position: relative;
    z-index: 1;
}

.modal {
    position: fixed;
    z-index: 100;
}

.side-tab {
    position: fixed;
    z-index: 5;
}

In the example above, the modal has a higher z-index than the content, although the content will appear on top of the modal because "content" is the parent with a z-index property.

Here's an article that explains 4 reasons why z-index might not work: https://coder-coder.com/z-index-isnt-working/

End-line characters from lines read from text file, using Python

What's wrong with your code? I find it to be quite elegant and simple. The only problem is that if the file doesn't end in a newline, the last line returned won't have a '\n' as the last character, and therefore doing line = line[:-1] would incorrectly strip off the last character of the line.

The most elegant way to solve this problem would be to define a generator which took the lines of the file and removed the last character from each line only if that character is a newline:

def strip_trailing_newlines(file):
    for line in file:
        if line[-1] == '\n':
            yield line[:-1]
        else:
            yield line

f = open("myFile.txt", "r")
for line in strip_trailing_newlines(f):
    # do something with line

H2 database error: Database may be already in use: "Locked by another process"

I'm using h2db with a test T24 tafj application, I had the same problem but I managed to resolve it by identifying the application that is running h2 (launched when I attempted to setup a database connection).

ps aux|grep java

will give output as:

sysadmin 22755  3.2  0.1 5189724 64008 pts/3   Sl   08:28   0:00 /usr/java/default/bin/java -server -Xmx2048M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -cp h2-1.3.175.jar:/r14tafj/TAFJ/dbscripts/h2/TAFJFunctions.jar org.h2.tools.Server -tcp -tcpAllowOthers -baseDir /r14tafj/t24/data

now kill this with its process id:

kill -9 22755

and at last remove the lock file:

rm -f dbname.lock.db

What is the Angular equivalent to an AngularJS $watch?

In Angular 2, change detection is automatic... $scope.$watch() and $scope.$digest() R.I.P.

Unfortunately, the Change Detection section of the dev guide is not written yet (there is a placeholder near the bottom of the Architecture Overview page, in section "The Other Stuff").

Here's my understanding of how change detection works:

  • Zone.js "monkey patches the world" -- it intercepts all of the asynchronous APIs in the browser (when Angular runs). This is why we can use setTimeout() inside our components rather than something like $timeout... because setTimeout() is monkey patched.
  • Angular builds and maintains a tree of "change detectors". There is one such change detector (class) per component/directive. (You can get access to this object by injecting ChangeDetectorRef.) These change detectors are created when Angular creates components. They keep track of the state of all of your bindings, for dirty checking. These are, in a sense, similar to the automatic $watches() that Angular 1 would set up for {{}} template bindings.
    Unlike Angular 1, the change detection graph is a directed tree and cannot have cycles (this makes Angular 2 much more performant, as we'll see below).
  • When an event fires (inside the Angular zone), the code we wrote (the event handler callback) runs. It can update whatever data it wants to -- the shared application model/state and/or the component's view state.
  • After that, because of the hooks Zone.js added, it then runs Angular's change detection algorithm. By default (i.e., if you are not using the onPush change detection strategy on any of your components), every component in the tree is examined once (TTL=1)... from the top, in depth-first order. (Well, if you're in dev mode, change detection runs twice (TTL=2). See ApplicationRef.tick() for more about this.) It performs dirty checking on all of your bindings, using those change detector objects.
    • Lifecycle hooks are called as part of change detection.
      If the component data you want to watch is a primitive input property (String, boolean, number), you can implement ngOnChanges() to be notified of changes.
      If the input property is a reference type (object, array, etc.), but the reference didn't change (e.g., you added an item to an existing array), you'll need to implement ngDoCheck() (see this SO answer for more on this).
      You should only change the component's properties and/or properties of descendant components (because of the single tree walk implementation -- i.e., unidirectional data flow). Here's a plunker that violates that. Stateful pipes can also trip you up here.
  • For any binding changes that are found, the Components are updated, and then the DOM is updated. Change detection is now finished.
  • The browser notices the DOM changes and updates the screen.

Why am I getting string does not name a type Error?

You can overcome this error in two simple ways

First way

using namespace std;
include <string>
// then you can use string class the normal way

Second way

// after including the class string in your cpp file as follows
include <string>
/*Now when you are using a string class you have to put **std::** before you write

How can I inspect the file system of a failed `docker build`?

Debugging build step failures is indeed very annoying.

The best solution I have found is to make sure that each step that does real work succeeds, and adding a check after those that fails. That way you get a committed layer that contains the outputs of the failed step that you can inspect.

Declare variable in table valued function

There are two flavors of table valued functions. One that is just a select statement and one that can have more rows than just a select statement.

This can not have a variable:

create function Func() returns table
as
return
select 10 as ColName

You have to do like this instead:

create function Func()
returns @T table(ColName int)
as
begin
  declare @Var int
  set @Var = 10
  insert into @T(ColName) values (@Var)
  return
end

What tool to use to draw file tree diagram

Graphviz - from the web page:

The Graphviz layout programs take descriptions of graphs in a simple text language, and make diagrams in several useful formats such as images and SVG for web pages, Postscript for inclusion in PDF or other documents; or display in an interactive graph browser. (Graphviz also supports GXL, an XML dialect.)

It's the simplest and most productive tool I've found to create a variety of boxes-and-lines diagrams. I have and use Visio and OmniGraffle, but there's always the temptation to make "just one more adjustment".

It's also quite easy to write code to produce the "dot file" format that Graphiz consumes, so automated diagram production is also nicely within reach.

How to enable mbstring from php.ini?

All XAMPP packages come with Multibyte String (php_mbstring.dll) extension installed.

If you have accidentally removed DLL file from php/ext folder, just add it back (get the copy from XAMPP zip archive - its downloadable).

If you have deleted the accompanying INI configuration line from php.ini file, add it back as well:

extension=php_mbstring.dll

Also, ensure to restart your webserver (Apache) using XAMPP control panel.

Additional Info on Enabling PHP Extensions

  • install extension (e.g. put php_mbstring.dll into /XAMPP/php/ext directory)
  • in php.ini, ensure extension directory specified (e.g. extension_dir = "ext")
  • ensure correct build of DLL file (e.g. 32bit thread-safe VC9 only works with DLL files built using exact same tools and configuration: 32bit thread-safe VC9)
  • ensure PHP API versions match (If not, once you restart the webserver you will receive related error.)

ExecuteNonQuery: Connection property has not been initialized.

Actually this error occurs when server makes connection but can't build due to failure in identifying connection function identifier. This problem can be solved by typing connection function in code. For this I take a simple example. In this case function is con your may be different.

SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("insert into ptb(pword,rpword) values(@a,@b)",con);

Binding an Image in WPF MVVM

If you have a process that already generates and returns an Image type, you can alter the bind and not have to modify any additional image creation code.

Refer to the ".Source" of the image in the binding statement.

XAML

<Image Name="imgOpenClose" Source="{Binding ImageOpenClose.Source}"/>

View Model Field

private Image _imageOpenClose;
public Image ImageOpenClose
{
    get
    {
        return _imageOpenClose;
    }
    set
    {
        _imageOpenClose = value;
        OnPropertyChanged();
    }
}

How to write a cursor inside a stored procedure in SQL Server 2008

What's wrong with just simply using a single, simple UPDATE statement??

UPDATE dbo.Coupon
SET NoofUses = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM dbo.CouponUse WHERE Couponid = dbo.Coupon.ID)

That's all that's needed ! No messy and complicated cursor, no looping, no RBAR (row-by-agonizing-row) processing ..... just a nice, simple, clean set-based SQL statement.

UIWebView open links in Safari

One quick comment to user306253's answer: caution with this, when you try to load something in the UIWebView yourself (i.e. even from the code), this method will prevent it to happened.

What you can do to prevent this (thanks Wade) is:

if (inType == UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked) {
    [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[inRequest URL]];
    return NO;
}

return YES;

You might also want to handle the UIWebViewNavigationTypeFormSubmitted and UIWebViewNavigationTypeFormResubmitted types.

how to convert string to numerical values in mongodb

Run a script in Dockerfile

RUN and ENTRYPOINT are two different ways to execute a script.

RUN means it creates an intermediate container, runs the script and freeze the new state of that container in a new intermediate image. The script won't be run after that: your final image is supposed to reflect the result of that script.

ENTRYPOINT means your image (which has not executed the script yet) will create a container, and runs that script.

In both cases, the script needs to be added, and a RUN chmod +x /bootstrap.sh is a good idea.

It should also start with a shebang (like #!/bin/sh)

Considering your script (bootstrap.sh: a couple of git config --global commands), it would be best to RUN that script once in your Dockerfile, but making sure to use the right user (the global git config file is %HOME%/.gitconfig, which by default is the /root one)

Add to your Dockerfile:

RUN /bootstrap.sh

Then, when running a container, check the content of /root/.gitconfig to confirm the script was run.

Check if datetime instance falls in between other two datetime objects

DateTime.Ticks will account for the time. Use .Ticks on the DateTime to convert your dates into longs. Then just use a simple if stmt to see if your target date falls between.

// Assuming you know d2 > d1
if (targetDt.Ticks > d1.Ticks && targetDt.Ticks < d2.Ticks)
{
    // targetDt is in between d1 and d2

Javascript format date / time

For the date part:(month is 0-indexed while days are 1-indexed)

var date = new Date('2014-8-20');
console.log((date.getMonth()+1) + '/' + date.getDate() + '/' +  date.getFullYear());

for the time you'll want to create a function to test different situations and convert.

Keep the order of the JSON keys during JSON conversion to CSV

JSONObject.java takes whatever map you pass. It may be LinkedHashMap or TreeMap and it will take hashmap only when the map is null .

Here is the constructor of JSONObject.java class that will do the checking of map.

 public JSONObject(Map paramMap)
  {
    this.map = (paramMap == null ? new HashMap() : paramMap);
  }

So before building a json object construct LinkedHashMap and then pass it to the constructor like this ,

LinkedHashMap<String, String> jsonOrderedMap = new LinkedHashMap<String, String>();

jsonOrderedMap.put("1","red");
jsonOrderedMap.put("2","blue");
jsonOrderedMap.put("3","green");

JSONObject orderedJson = new JSONObject(jsonOrderedMap);

JSONArray jsonArray = new JSONArray(Arrays.asList(orderedJson));

System.out.println("Ordered JSON Fianl CSV :: "+CDL.toString(jsonArray));

So there is no need to change the JSONObject.java class . Hope it helps somebody .

Does java have a int.tryparse that doesn't throw an exception for bad data?

Edit -- just saw your comment about the performance problems associated with a potentially bad piece of input data. I don't know offhand how try/catch on parseInt compares to a regex. I would guess, based on very little hard knowledge, that regexes are not hugely performant, compared to try/catch, in Java.

Anyway, I'd just do this:

public Integer tryParse(Object obj) {
  Integer retVal;
  try {
    retVal = Integer.parseInt((String) obj);
  } catch (NumberFormatException nfe) {
    retVal = 0; // or null if that is your preference
  }
  return retVal;
}

NSOperation vs Grand Central Dispatch

GCD is a low-level C-based API.
NSOperation and NSOperationQueue are Objective-C classes.
NSOperationQueue is objective C wrapper over GCD. If you are using NSOperation, then you are implicitly using Grand Central Dispatch.

GCD advantage over NSOperation:
i. implementation
For GCD implementation is very light-weight
NSOperationQueue is complex and heavy-weight

NSOperation advantages over GCD:

i. Control On Operation
you can Pause, Cancel, Resume an NSOperation

ii. Dependencies
you can set up a dependency between two NSOperations
operation will not started until all of its dependencies return true for finished.

iii. State of Operation
can monitor the state of an operation or operation queue. ready ,executing or finished

iv. Max Number of Operation
you can specify the maximum number of queued operations that can run simultaneously

When to Go for GCD or NSOperation
when you want more control over queue (all above mentioned) use NSOperation and for simple cases where you want less overhead (you just want to do some work "into the background" with very little additional work) use GCD

PowerShell To Set Folder Permissions

Specifying inheritance in the FileSystemAccessRule() constructor fixes this, as demonstrated by the modified code below (notice the two new constuctor parameters inserted between "FullControl" and "Allow").

$Acl = Get-Acl "\\R9N2WRN\Share"

$Ar = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAccessRule("user", "FullControl", "ContainerInherit,ObjectInherit", "None", "Allow")

$Acl.SetAccessRule($Ar)
Set-Acl "\\R9N2WRN\Share" $Acl

According to this topic

"when you create a FileSystemAccessRule the way you have, the InheritanceFlags property is set to None. In the GUI, this corresponds to an ACE with the Apply To box set to "This Folder Only", and that type of entry has to be viewed through the Advanced settings."

I have tested the modification and it works, but of course credit is due to the MVP posting the answer in that topic.

You may not be able to create a primary key (per say) but if your view is based on a table with a primary key and the key is included in the view, then the primary key will be reflected in the view also. Applications requiring a primary key may accept the view as it is the case with Lightswitch.

use localStorage across subdomains

If you're using the iframe and postMessage solution just for this particular problem, I think it might be less work (both code-wise and computation-wise) to just store the data in a subdomain-less cookie and, if it's not already in localStorage on load, grab it from the cookie.

Pros:

  • Doesn't need the extra iframe and postMessage set up.

Cons:

  • Will make the data available across all subdomains (not just www) so if you don't trust all the subdomains it may not work for you.
  • Will send the data to the server on each request. Not great, but depending on your scenario, maybe still less work than the iframe/postMessage solution.
  • If you're doing this, why not just use the cookies directly? Depends on your context.
  • 4K max cookie size, total across all cookies for the domain (Thanks to Blake for pointing this out in comments)

I agree with other commenters though, this seems like it should be a specifiable option for localStorage so work-arounds aren't required.

How do I set a ViewModel on a window in XAML using DataContext property?

You need to instantiate the MainViewModel and set it as datacontext. In your statement it just consider it as string value.

     <Window x:Class="BuildAssistantUI.BuildAssistantWindow"
        xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"

The tilde operator in Python

It is a unary operator (taking a single argument) that is borrowed from C, where all data types are just different ways of interpreting bytes. It is the "invert" or "complement" operation, in which all the bits of the input data are reversed.

In Python, for integers, the bits of the twos-complement representation of the integer are reversed (as in b <- b XOR 1 for each individual bit), and the result interpreted again as a twos-complement integer. So for integers, ~x is equivalent to (-x) - 1.

The reified form of the ~ operator is provided as operator.invert. To support this operator in your own class, give it an __invert__(self) method.

>>> import operator
>>> class Foo:
...   def __invert__(self):
...     print 'invert'
...
>>> x = Foo()
>>> operator.invert(x)
invert
>>> ~x
invert

Any class in which it is meaningful to have a "complement" or "inverse" of an instance that is also an instance of the same class is a possible candidate for the invert operator. However, operator overloading can lead to confusion if misused, so be sure that it really makes sense to do so before supplying an __invert__ method to your class. (Note that byte-strings [ex: '\xff'] do not support this operator, even though it is meaningful to invert all the bits of a byte-string.)

jQuery: get parent tr for selected radio button

Try this.

You don't need to prefix attribute name by @ in jQuery selector. Use closest() method to get the closest parent element matching the selector.

$("#MwDataList input[name=selectRadioGroup]:checked").closest('tr');

You can simplify your method like this

function getSelectedRowGuid() {
    return GetRowGuid(
      $("#MwDataList > input:radio[@name=selectRadioGroup]:checked :parent tr"));
}

closest() - Gets the first element that matches the selector, beginning at the current element and progressing up through the DOM tree.

As a side note, the ids of the elements should be unique on the page so try to avoid having same ids for radio buttons which I can see in your markup. If you are not going to use the ids then just remove it from the markup.

Why do I get "Exception; must be caught or declared to be thrown" when I try to compile my Java code?

Run JavaScript code on window close or page refresh?

Ok, I found a working solution for this, it consists of using the beforeunload event and then making the handler return null. This executes the wanted code without a confirmation box popping-up. It goes something like this:

function closingCode(){
   // do something...
   return null;

How do I do a bulk insert in mySQL using node.js

If Ragnar's answer doesn't work for you. Here is probably why (based on my experience) -

  1. I wasn't using node-mysql package as shown my Ragnar. I was using mysql package. They're different (if you didn't notice - just like me). But I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the ? not working, since it seemed to work for many folks using the mysql package.

  2. Try using a variable instead of ?

The following worked for me -

var mysql = require('node-mysql');
var conn = mysql.createConnection({
    ...
});

var sql = "INSERT INTO Test (name, email, n) VALUES :params";
var values = [
    ['demian', '[email protected]', 1],
    ['john', '[email protected]', 2],
    ['mark', '[email protected]', 3],
    ['pete', '[email protected]', 4]
];
conn.query(sql, { params: values}, function(err) {
    if (err) throw err;
    conn.end();
});

Hope this helps someone.

How to overcome "datetime.datetime not JSON serializable"?

if you are using python3.7, then the best solution is using datetime.isoformat() and datetime.fromisoformat(); they work with both naive and aware datetime objects:

#!/usr/bin/env python3.7

from datetime import datetime
from datetime import timezone
from datetime import timedelta
import json

def default(obj):
    if isinstance(obj, datetime):
        return { '_isoformat': obj.isoformat() }
    return super().default(obj)

def object_hook(obj):
    _isoformat = obj.get('_isoformat')
    if _isoformat is not None:
        return datetime.fromisoformat(_isoformat)
    return obj

if __name__ == '__main__':
    #d = { 'now': datetime(2000, 1, 1) }
    d = { 'now': datetime(2000, 1, 1, tzinfo=timezone(timedelta(hours=-8))) }
    s = json.dumps(d, default=default)
    print(s)
    print(d == json.loads(s, object_hook=object_hook))

output:

{"now": {"_isoformat": "2000-01-01T00:00:00-08:00"}}
True

if you are using python3.6 or below, and you only care about the time value (not the timezone), then you can use datetime.timestamp() and datetime.fromtimestamp() instead;

if you are using python3.6 or below, and you do care about the timezone, then you can get it via datetime.tzinfo, but you have to serialize this field by yourself; the easiest way to do this is to add another field _tzinfo in the serialized object;

finally, beware of precisions in all these examples;

Using `date` command to get previous, current and next month

the following will do:

date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) -1 month" +%-m
date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) 0 month" +%-m
date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) 1 month" +%-m

or as you need:

LAST_MONTH=`date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) -1 month" +%-m`
NEXT_MONTH=`date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) 1 month" +%-m`
THIS_MONTH=`date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) 0 month" +%-m`

you asked for output like 9,10,11, so I used the %-m

%m (without -) will produce output like 09,... (leading zero)

this also works for more/less than 12 months:

date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) -13 month" +%-m

just try

date -d "$(date +%Y-%m-1) -13 month"

to see full result

How do I split a multi-line string into multiple lines?

Like the others said:

inputString.split('\n')  # --> ['Line 1', 'Line 2', 'Line 3']

This is identical to the above, but the string module's functions are deprecated and should be avoided:

import string
string.split(inputString, '\n')  # --> ['Line 1', 'Line 2', 'Line 3']

Alternatively, if you want each line to include the break sequence (CR,LF,CRLF), use the splitlines method with a True argument:

inputString.splitlines(True)  # --> ['Line 1\n', 'Line 2\n', 'Line 3']

Cannot apply indexing with [] to an expression of type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<>

Because it's not.

Indexing is covered by IList. IEnumerable means "I have some of the powers of IList, but not all of them."

Some collections (like a linked list), cannot be indexed in a practical way. But they can be accessed item-by-item. IEnumerable is intended for collections like that. Note that a collection can implement both IList & IEnumerable (and many others). You generally only find IEnumerable as a function parameter, meaning the function can accept any kind of collection, because all it needs is the simplest access mode.

Don't change link color when a link is clicked

you are looking for this:

a:visited{
  color:blue;
}

Links have several states you can alter... the way I remember them is LVHFA (Lord Vader's Handle Formerly Anakin)

Each letter stands for a pseudo class: (Link,Visited,Hover,Focus,Active)

a:link{
  color:blue;
}
a:visited{
  color:purple;
}
a:hover{
  color:orange;
}
a:focus{
  color:green;
}
a:active{
  color:red;
}

If you want the links to always be blue, just change all of them to blue. I would note though on a usability level, it would be nice if the mouse click caused the color to change a little bit (even if just a lighter/darker blue) to help indicate that the link was actually clicked (this is especially important in a touchscreen interface where you're not always sure the click was actually registered)

If you have different types of links that you want to all have the same color when clicked, add a class to the links.

a.foo, a.foo:link, a.foo:visited, a.foo:hover, a.foo:focus, a.foo:active{
  color:green;
}
a.bar, a.bar:link, a.bar:visited, a.bar:hover, a.bar:focus, a.bar:active{
  color:orange;
}

It should be noted that not all browsers respect each of these options ;-)

Changing selection in a select with the Chosen plugin

In case of multiple type of select and/or if you want to remove already selected items one by one, directly within a dropdown list items, you can use something like:

jQuery("body").on("click", ".result-selected", function() {
    var locID = jQuery(this).attr('class').split('__').pop();
    // I have a class name: class="result-selected locvalue__209"
    var arrayCurrent = jQuery('#searchlocation').val();
    var index = arrayCurrent.indexOf(locID);
    if (index > -1) {
        arrayCurrent.splice(index, 1);
    }
    jQuery('#searchlocation').val(arrayCurrent).trigger('chosen:updated');
});

How to run a single RSpec test?

Another common mistake is to still have or have upgraded an older Rails app to Rails 5+ and be putting require 'spec_helper' at the top of each test file. This should changed to require 'rails_helper'. If you are seeing different behavior between the rake task (rake spec) and when you run a single spec (rspec path/to/spec.rb), this is a common reason

the best solution is to

1) make sure you are using require 'rails_helper' at the top of each of your spec files — not the older-style require 'spec_helper' 2) use the rake spec SPEC=path/to/spec.rb syntax

the older-style rspec path/to/spec.rb I think should be considered out-of-vogue by the community at this time in 2020 (but of course you will get it to work, other considerations aside)

How do I UPDATE from a SELECT in SQL Server?

The other way is to use a derived table:

UPDATE t
SET t.col1 = a.col1
    ,t.col2 = a.col2
FROM (
SELECT id, col1, col2 FROM @tbl2) a
INNER JOIN @tbl1 t ON t.id = a.id

Sample data

DECLARE @tbl1 TABLE (id INT, col1 VARCHAR(10), col2 VARCHAR(10))
DECLARE @tbl2 TABLE (id INT, col1 VARCHAR(10), col2 VARCHAR(10))

INSERT @tbl1 SELECT 1, 'a', 'b' UNION SELECT 2, 'b', 'c'

INSERT @tbl2 SELECT 1, '1', '2' UNION SELECT 2, '3', '4'

UPDATE t
SET t.col1 = a.col1
    ,t.col2 = a.col2
FROM (
SELECT id, col1, col2 FROM @tbl2) a
INNER JOIN @tbl1 t ON t.id = a.id

SELECT * FROM @tbl1
SELECT * FROM @tbl2

How to check cordova android version of a cordova/phonegap project?

After upgrading the Application. I observed different Cordova versions.

  1. Apache Cordova Cli version which is 6.0.0.
  2. Cordova Android version which is 5.1.0.
  3. Cordova IOS version which is 4.1.1.
  4. Docs version is which is 6.0.0, shown on the Cordova Docs website.

Now i am confused, On which version basis, Google Dev Console is giving warning?

Please migrate your app(s) to Apache Cordova v.4.1.1 or higher as soon as possible and increment the version number of the upgraded APK. Beginning May 9, 2016, Google Play will block publishing of any new apps or updates that use pre-4.1.1 versions of Apache Cordova.

The vulnerabilities were addressed in Apache Cordova 4.1.1. If you’re using a 3rd party library that bundles Apache Cordova, you’ll need to upgrade it to a version that bundles Apache Cordova 4.1.1 or later.

And before upgrading. Our Application versions were these.

  1. Apache Cordova Cli version which is 5.4.1.
  2. Cordova Android version which is 4.1.1.
  3. Cordova IOS version which is 3.9.1.
  4. Docs version is which is 5.4.1, shown on the Cordova Docs website.

// append to the form
$('#myForm').append($input);

Converting data frame column from character to numeric

If we need only one column to be numeric

yyz$b <- as.numeric(as.character(yyz$b))

But, if all the columns needs to changed to numeric, use lapply to loop over the columns and convert to numeric by first converting it to character class as the columns were factor.

yyz[] <- lapply(yyz, function(x) as.numeric(as.character(x)))

Both the columns in the OP's post are factor because of the string "n/a". This could be easily avoided while reading the file using na.strings = "n/a" in the read.table/read.csv or if we are using data.frame, we can have character columns with stringsAsFactors=FALSE (the default is stringsAsFactors=TRUE)

Regarding the usage of apply, it converts the dataset to matrix and matrix can hold only a single class. To check the class, we need

lapply(yyz, class)

Or

sapply(yyz, class)

Or check

str(yyz)

How do I force detach Screen from another SSH session?

As Jose answered, screen -d -r should do the trick. This is a combination of two commands, as taken from the man page.

screen -d detaches the already-running screen session, and screen -r reattaches the existing session. By running screen -d -r, you force screen to detach it and then resume the session.

If you use the capital -D -RR, I quote the man page because it's too good to pass up.

Attach here and now. Whatever that means, just do it.

Note: It is always a good idea to check the status of your sessions by means of "screen -list".

document.getElementById().value doesn't set the value

The problem is clearly not with the javascript. Here's a quick snippet to show you the working of the code.

document.getElementById('points').value = 100;

http://jsfiddle.net/eqTm2/1/

As you can see, the javascript perfectly assigns the new value to the input element. It would be helpful if you could elaborate more on the issue.

How to redirect 'print' output to a file using python?

If redirecting stdout works for your problem, Gringo Suave's answer is a good demonstration for how to do it.

To make it even easier, I made a version utilizing contextmanagers for a succinct generalized calling syntax using the with statement:

from contextlib import contextmanager
import sys

@contextmanager
def redirected_stdout(outstream):
    orig_stdout = sys.stdout
    try:
        sys.stdout = outstream
        yield
    finally:
        sys.stdout = orig_stdout

To use it, you just do the following (derived from Suave's example):

with open('out.txt', 'w') as outfile:
    with redirected_stdout(outfile):
        for i in range(2):
            print('i =', i)

It's useful for selectively redirecting print when a module uses it in a way you don't like. The only disadvantage (and this is the dealbreaker for many situations) is that it doesn't work if one wants multiple threads with different values of stdout, but that requires a better, more generalized method: indirect module access. You can see implementations of that in other answers to this question.

SQL Server IN vs. EXISTS Performance

I'd go with EXISTS over IN, see below link:

SQL Server: JOIN vs IN vs EXISTS - the logical difference

There is a common misconception that IN behaves equally to EXISTS or JOIN in terms of returned results. This is simply not true.

IN: Returns true if a specified value matches any value in a subquery or a list.

Exists: Returns true if a subquery contains any rows.

Join: Joins 2 resultsets on the joining column.

What does EntityManager.flush do and why do I need to use it?

So when you call EntityManager.persist(), it only makes the entity get managed by the EntityManager and adds it (entity instance) to the Persistence Context. An Explicit flush() will make the entity now residing in the Persistence Context to be moved to the database (using a SQL).

Without flush(), this (moving of entity from Persistence Context to the database) will happen when the Transaction to which this Persistence Context is associated is committed.

How do I make curl ignore the proxy?

Using the GET parameter of a URL in JavaScript

Here is a version that JSLint likes:

/*jslint browser: true */
var GET = {};
(function (input) {
    'use strict';
    if (input.length > 1) {
        var param = input.slice(1).replace(/\+/g, ' ').split('&'),
            plength = param.length,
            tmp,
            p;

        for (p = 0; p < plength; p += 1) {
            tmp = param[p].split('=');
            GET[decodeURIComponent(tmp[0])] = decodeURIComponent(tmp[1]);
        }
    }
}(window.location.search));

window.alert(JSON.stringify(GET));

Or if you need support for several values for one key like eg. ?key=value1&key=value2 you can use this:

/*jslint browser: true */
var GET = {};
(function (input) {
    'use strict';
    if (input.length > 1) {
        var params = input.slice(1).replace(/\+/g, ' ').split('&'),
            plength = params.length,
            tmp,
            key,
            val,
            obj,
            p;

        for (p = 0; p < plength; p += 1) {
            tmp = params[p].split('=');
            key = decodeURIComponent(tmp[0]);
            val = decodeURIComponent(tmp[1]);
            if (GET.hasOwnProperty(key)) {
                obj = GET[key];
                if (obj.constructor === Array) {
                    obj.push(val);
                } else {
                    GET[key] = [obj, val];
                }
            } else {
                GET[key] = val;
            }
        }
    }
}(window.location.search));

window.alert(JSON.stringify(GET));

How can I tell gcc not to inline a function?

A portable way to do this is to call the function through a pointer:

void (*foo_ptr)() = foo;
foo_ptr();

Though this produces different instructions to branch, which may not be your goal. Which brings up a good point: what is your goal here?

How can I pass POST parameters in a URL?

I would like to share my implementation as well. It does require some JavaScript code though.

<form action="./index.php" id="homePage" method="post" style="display: none;">
    <input type="hidden" name="action" value="homePage" />
</form>

<a href="javascript:;" onclick="javascript:
document.getElementById('homePage').submit()">Home</a>

The nice thing about this is that, contrary to GET requests, it doesn't show the parameters in the URL, which is safer.

Convert all data frame character columns to factors

I noticed "[" indexing columns fails to create levels when iterating:

for ( a_feature in convert.to.factors) {
feature.df[a_feature] <- factor(feature.df[a_feature]) }

It creates, e.g. for the "Status" column:

Status : Factor w/ 1 level "c(\"Success\", \"Fail\")" : NA NA NA ...

Which is remedied by using "[[" indexing:

for ( a_feature in convert.to.factors) {
feature.df[[a_feature]] <- factor(feature.df[[a_feature]]) }

Giving instead, as desired:

. Status : Factor w/ 2 levels "Success", "Fail" : 1 1 2 1 ...

How can I add private key to the distribution certificate?

Yes, the error you are getting means that there is not a private key on your Mac associated with the distribution certificate you are trying to use to sign the app.

There are two possible solutions, depending on whether the computer who requested the distribution certificate is available or not.

If the computer who requested the distribution certificate is available (or there is a backup of the distribution assets somewhere)

  1. From the computer where the distribution asset was generated, open Xcode.
  2. Click on Window, Organizer.
  3. Expand the Teams section.
  4. Select your team, select the certificate of "iOS Distribution" type, click Export and follow the instructions.
  5. Save the exported file and go to your computer.
  6. Repeat steps 1-3.
  7. Click Import and select the file you exported before.

If the computer where the distribution profile was created is not accessible anymore (and there is not a backup)

You have to revoke the certificate and create a new one.

You may need to ask your team admin or agent to give you some privileges in order to generate distribution certificates. Once you have enough privileges, follow these steps (accurate as of 15-May-2013):

  1. Go to this webpage: https://developer.apple.com/devcenter/ios/index.action
  2. Click on "Member Center" and enter your iOS developer credentials.
  3. Click on "Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles".
  4. Click on "Certificates" under the "iOS Apps" section.
  5. Expand the Certificates section on the left, select Distribution, and click on your distribution certificate.
  6. Click Revoke and follow the instructions.
  7. Click on the plus sign to add a new certificate.
  8. Select "App Store and Ad Hoc" option, and click Continue.
  9. Follow the steps printed in the webpage. That involves opening the Keychain application on your Mac and generate a Certificate Signing Request from there. Click Continue.
  10. Upload the .csr file and click Continue.
  11. A certificate is generated for distribution. Download it and double click it to integrate it in your keychain.

Reopen Xcode and check your project configuration to see if you can now select an "iPhone Distribution" certificate (i.e. it's not grayed out).

How to get a matplotlib Axes instance to plot to?

You can either

fig, ax = plt.subplots() #create figure and axes
candlestick(ax, quotes, ...)

or

candlestick(plt.gca(), quotes) #get the axis when calling the function

The first gives you more flexibility. The second is much easier if candlestick is the only thing you want to plot

How to find Max Date in List<Object>?

Since you are asking for lambdas, you can use the following syntax with Java 8:

Date maxDate = list.stream().map(u -> u.date).max(Date::compareTo).get();

or, if you have a getter for the date:

Date maxDate = list.stream().map(User::getDate).max(Date::compareTo).get();

Installing Numpy on 64bit Windows 7 with Python 2.7.3

Assuming you have python 2.7 64bit on your computer and have downloaded numpy from here, follow the steps below (changing numpy-1.9.2+mkl-cp27-none-win_amd64.whl as appropriate).

  1. Download (by right click and "save target") get-pip to local drive.

  2. At the command prompt, navigate to the directory containing get-pip.py and run

    python get-pip.py

    which creates files in C:\Python27\Scripts, including pip2, pip2.7 and pip.

  3. Copy the downloaded numpy-1.9.2+mkl-cp27-none-win_amd64.whl into the above directory (C:\Python27\Scripts)

  4. Still at the command prompt, navigate to the above directory and run:

    pip2.7.exe install "numpy-1.9.2+mkl-cp27-none-win_amd64.whl"

You can use .prop() with tagName as the name of the property that you want to get:

$("#elementId").prop('tagName');

Python function pointer

Easiest

eval(myvar)(parameter1, parameter2)

You don't have a function "pointer". You have a function "name".

While this works well, you will have a large number of folks telling you it's "insecure" or a "security risk".

jQuery validation: change default error message

Another possible solution is to loop over the fields, adding the same error message to each field.

$('.required').each(function(index) {
  $(this).rules("add", {
    messages: {
      required: "Custom error message."
   }
  });
});

Parsing XML in Python using ElementTree example

So I have ElementTree 1.2.6 on my box now, and ran the following code against the XML chunk you posted:

import elementtree.ElementTree as ET

tree = ET.parse("test.xml")
doc = tree.getroot()
thingy = doc.find('timeSeries')

print thingy.attrib

and got the following back:

{'name': 'NWIS Time Series Instantaneous Values'}

It appears to have found the timeSeries element without needing to use numerical indices.

What would be useful now is knowing what you mean when you say "it doesn't work." Since it works for me given the same input, it is unlikely that ElementTree is broken in some obvious way. Update your question with any error messages, backtraces, or anything you can provide to help us help you.

What is the difference between XAMPP or WAMP Server & IIS?

WAMP stands for Windows,Apache,Mysql,Php

XAMPP stands for X-os,Apache,Mysql,Php,Perl. (x-os means it can use for any operating system)

Advantages of XAMPP:

  • It is cross-platform software

  • It possesses many other essential modules such as phpMyAdmin, OpenSSL, MediaWiki, WordPress, Joomla and more.

  • it is easy to configure and use.

Advantages of WAMP:

  • It is easy to Use. (Changing Configuration)

  • WAMP is Available for both 64 bit and 32-bit system.

if you are running projects which have specific version requirements WAMP is better choice because you can switch between multiple versions. for example 7x and PHP 5x or Magento2.2.4 won't work on php7.2 but Magento2.3.needs php7.2 or up to work.

i suggest using laragon :

Laragon works out of the box with not only MySQL/MariaDB but also PostgreSQL & MongoDB. With Laragon, they are portable & reliable so you can focus on what matters Laragon is a portable, isolated, fast & powerful universal development environment for PHP, Node.js, Python, Java, Go, Ruby. It is fast, lightweight, easy-to-use and easy-to-extend.

Laragon is very lightweight and will stay as lean as possible. The core binary itself is less than 2MB and uses less than 4MB RAM when running.

Laragon doesn’t use Windows services. It has its own service orchestration which manages services asynchronously and non-blocking so you’ll find things run fast & smoothly with Laragon.

Advantages of Laragon:

  • Pretty URLs
    Use app.test instead of localhost/app.

  • Portable
    You can move Laragon folder around (to another disks, to another laptops, sync to Cloud,…) without any worries.

  • Isolated
    Laragon has an isolated environment with your OS - it will keep your system clean.

  • Easy Operation

    Unlike others which pre-config for you, Laragon auto-configsall the complicated things. That why you can add another versions of PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, Go, Apache, Nginx, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB,… effortlessly.

Also, Laragon makes things a lot easier:Wanna have a Wordpress CMS? Just 1 click.Wanna show your local project to customers? Just 1 click.Wanna enable/disable a PHP extension? Just 1 click.

Why does ENOENT mean "No such file or directory"?

It's an abbreviation of Error NO ENTry (or Error NO ENTity), and can actually be used for more than files/directories.

It's abbreviated because C compilers at the dawn of time didn't support more than 8 characters in symbols.

What are database normal forms and can you give examples?

I've never had a good memory for exact wording, but in my database class I think the professor always said something like:

The data depends on the key [1NF], the whole key [2NF] and nothing but the key [3NF].

Java List.contains(Object with field value equal to x)

This is how to do it using Java 8+ :

ImproperlyConfigured: You must either define the environment variable DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE or call settings.configure() before accessing settings

I figured that the DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE had to be set some way, so I looked at the documentation (link updated) and found:

export DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=mysite.settings

Though that is not enough if you are running a server on heroku, you need to specify it there, too. Like this:

heroku config:set DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=mysite.settings --account <your account name>

In my specific case I ran these two and everything worked out:

export DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=nirla.settings
heroku config:set DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=nirla.settings --account personal

Edit

I would also like to point out that you have to re-do this every time you close or restart your virtual environment. Instead, you should automate the process by going to venv/bin/activate and adding the line: set DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=mysite.settings to the bottom of the code. From now on every time you activate the virtual environment, you will be using that app's settings.

What is git fast-forwarding?

When you try to merge one commit with a commit that can be reached by following the first commit’s history, Git simplifies things by moving the pointer forward because there is no divergent work to merge together – this is called a “fast-forward.”

For more : http://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Branching-Basic-Branching-and-Merging

In another way,

If Master has not diverged, instead of creating a new commit, git will just point master to the latest commit of the feature branch. This is a “fast forward.”

There won't be any "merge commit" in fast-forwarding merge.

Cannot deserialize the current JSON array (e.g. [1,2,3])

To read more than one json tip (array, attribute) I did the following.

var jVariable = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<YourCommentaryClass>(jsonVariableContent);

change to

var jVariable = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject <List<YourCommentaryClass>>(jsonVariableContent);

Because you cannot see all the bits in the method used in the foreach loop. Example foreach loop

foreach (jsonDonanimSimple Variable in jVariable)
                {
                    debugOutput(jVariable.Id.ToString());
                    debugOutput(jVariable.Header.ToString());
                    debugOutput(jVariable.Content.ToString());
                }

I also received an error in this loop and changed it as follows.

foreach (jsonDonanimSimple Variable in jVariable)
                    {
                        debugOutput(Variable.Id.ToString());
                        debugOutput(Variable.Header.ToString());
                        debugOutput(Variable.Content.ToString());
                    }

How to read a file from jar in Java?

If you want to read that file from inside your application use:

InputStream input = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/classpath/to/my/file");

The path starts with "/", but that is not the path in your file-system, but in your classpath. So if your file is at the classpath "org.xml" and is called myxml.xml your path looks like "/org/xml/myxml.xml".

The InputStream reads the content of your file. You can wrap it into an Reader, if you want.

I hope that helps.

Close Current Tab

Found a one-liner that works in Chrome 66 from: http://www.yournewdesigner.com/css-experiments/javascript-window-close-firefox.html

TLDR: tricks the browser into believing JavaScirpt opened the current tab/window

window.open('', '_parent', '').close();

So for completeness

<input type="button" name="close" value="close" onclick="window.close();">

Though let it also be noted that readers may want to place this into a function that fingerprints which browsers require such trickery, because Firefox 59 doesn't work with the above.

Java Look and Feel (L&F)

Heres the code that creates a Dialog which allows the user of your application to change the Look And Feel based on the user's systems. Alternatively, if you can store the wanted Look And Feel's on your application, then they could be "portable", which is the desired result.

   public void changeLookAndFeel() {

        List<String> lookAndFeelsRealNames = new ArrayList<>();

        }

        String changeLook = (String) JOptionPane.showInputDialog(this, "Choose Look and Feel Here:", "Select Look and Feel", JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE, null, lookAndFeelsDisplay.toArray(), null);

        if (changeLook != null) {

Android toolbar center title and custom font

The ToolBar title is stylable. Any customization you make has to be made in the theme. I'll give you an example.

Toolbar layout:

Get query from java.sql.PreparedStatement

I have made a workaround to solve this problem. Visit the below link for more details http://code-outofbox.blogspot.com/2015/07/java-prepared-statement-print-values.html

Solution:

// Initialize connection
PreparedStatement prepStmt = connection.prepareStatement(sql);

PreparedStatementHelper prepHelper = new PreparedStatementHelper(prepStmt);

// User prepHelper.setXXX(indx++, value);
// .....

try {
   Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("\\?");
   Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(sql);
   StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
   int indx = 1; // Parameter begin with index 1
   while (matcher.find()) {
 matcher.appendReplacement(sb, prepHelper.getParameter(indx++));
   }
   matcher.appendTail(sb);
   LOGGER.debug("Executing Query [" + sb.toString() + "] with Database[" + /*db name*/ + "] ...");
   } catch (Exception ex) {
    LOGGER.debug("Executing Query [" + sql + "] with Database[" +  /*db name*/+ "] ...");
}

Maximum and Minimum values for ints

If you want the max for array or list indices (equivalent to size_t in C/C++), you can use numpy:

np.iinfo(np.intp).max

This is same as sys.maxsize however advantage is that you don't need import sys just for this.

If you want max for native int on the machine:

np.iinfo(np.intc).max

You can look at other available types in doc.

For floats you can also use sys.float_info.max.

How to retrieve records for last 30 minutes in MS SQL?

SQL Server uses Julian dates so your 30 means "30 calendar days". getdate() - 0.02083 means "30 minutes ago".

Is it possible to use JavaScript to change the meta-tags of the page?

Yes, you can do that.

There are some interesting use cases: Some browsers and plugins parse meta elements and change their behavior for different values.

Examples

Skype: Switch off phone number parser

<meta name="SKYPE_TOOLBAR" content="SKYPE_TOOLBAR_PARSER_COMPATIBLE">

iPhone: Switch off phone number parser

<meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=no">

Google Chrome Frame

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="chrome=1">

Viewport definition for mobile devices

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">

This one can be changed by JavaScript. See: A fix for iPhone viewport scale bug

Meta description

Some user agents (Opera for example) use the description for bookmarks. You can add personalized content here. Example:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<title>Test</title>
<meta name="description" content="this is old">
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.js'></script>

<button>Change description</button>

<script type='text/javascript'>
$('button').on('click', function() {
    // Just replacing the value of the 'content' attribute will not work.
    $('meta[name=description]').remove();
    $('head').append( '<meta name="description" content="this is new">' );
});
</script>

So, it’s not just about search engines.

How do I get the "id" after INSERT into MySQL database with Python?

Python DBAPI spec also define 'lastrowid' attribute for cursor object, so...

id = cursor.lastrowid

...should work too, and it's per-connection based obviously.

How can you flush a write using a file descriptor?

fflush() only flushes the buffering added by the stdio fopen() layer, as managed by the FILE * object. The underlying file itself, as seen by the kernel, is not buffered at this level. This means that writes that bypass the FILE * layer, using fileno() and a raw write(), are also not buffered in a way that fflush() would flush.

As others have pointed out, try not mixing the two. If you need to use "raw" I/O functions such as ioctl(), then open() the file yourself directly, without using fopen<() and friends from stdio.

MySQL "incorrect string value" error when save unicode string in Django

Improvement to @madprops answer - solution as a django management command:

import MySQLdb
from django.conf import settings

from django.core.management.base import BaseCommand

class Command(BaseCommand):

    def handle(self, *args, **options):
        host = settings.DATABASES['default']['HOST']
        password = settings.DATABASES['default']['PASSWORD']
        user = settings.DATABASES['default']['USER']
        dbname = settings.DATABASES['default']['NAME']

        db = MySQLdb.connect(host=host, user=user, passwd=password, db=dbname)
        cursor = db.cursor()

        cursor.execute("ALTER DATABASE `%s` CHARACTER SET 'utf8' COLLATE 'utf8_unicode_ci'" % dbname)

        sql = "SELECT DISTINCT(table_name) FROM information_schema.columns WHERE table_schema = '%s'" % dbname
        cursor.execute(sql)

        results = cursor.fetchall()
        for row in results:
            print(f'Changing table "{row[0]}"...')
            sql = "ALTER TABLE `%s` convert to character set DEFAULT COLLATE DEFAULT" % (row[0])
            cursor.execute(sql)
        db.close()

Hope this helps anybody but me :)

Creating an array of objects in Java

Here is the clear example of creating array of 10 employee objects, with a constructor that takes parameter:

public class MainClass
{
    public static void main(String args[])
    {
        System.out.println("Hello, World!");
        //step1 : first create array of 10 elements that holds object addresses.
        Emp[] employees = new Emp[10];
        //step2 : now create objects in a loop.
        for(int i=0; i<employees.length; i++){
            employees[i] = new Emp(i+1);//this will call constructor.
        }
    }
}

class Emp{
    int eno;
    public Emp(int no){
        eno = no;
        System.out.println("emp constructor called..eno is.."+eno);
    }
}

How to escape a JSON string containing newline characters using JavaScript?

        .replace(/[\t]/g, '\\t')
        .replace(/[\"]/g, '\\"')
        .replace(/\\'/g, "\\'");

How can I hide/show a div when a button is clicked?

The following solution is:

  • briefest. Somewhat similar to here. It's also minimal: The table in the DIV is orthogonal to your question.
  • fastest: getElementById is called once at the outset. This may or may not suit your purposes.
  • It uses pure JavaScript (i.e. without JQuery).
  • It uses a button. Your taste may vary.
  • extensible: it's ready to add more DIVs, sharing the code.

Difference between hamiltonian path and euler path

I'll use a common example in biology; reconstructing a genome by making DNA samples.

De-novo assembly

To construct a genome from short reads, it's necessary to construct a graph of those reads. We do it by breaking the reads into k-mers and assemble them into a graph.

enter image description here

We can reconstruct the genome by visiting each node once as in the diagram. This is known as Hamiltonian path.

Unfortunately, constructing such path is NP-hard. It's not possible to derive an efficient algorithm for solving it. Instead, in bioinformatics we construct a Eulerian cycle where an edge represents an overlap.

How to escape double quotes in JSON

Note that this most often occurs when the content has been "double encoded", meaning the encoding algorithm has accidentally been called twice.

The first call would encode the "text2" value:

FROM: Heute startet unsere Rundreise "Example text". Jeden Tag wird ein neues Reiseziel angesteuert bis wir.

TO: Heute startet unsere Rundreise \"Example text\". Jeden Tag wird ein neues Reiseziel angesteuert bis wir.

A second encoding then converts it again, escaping the already escaped characters:

FROM: Heute startet unsere Rundreise \"Example text\". Jeden Tag wird ein neues Reiseziel angesteuert bis wir.

TO: Heute startet unsere Rundreise \\\"Example text\\\". Jeden Tag wird ein neues Reiseziel angesteuert bis wir.

So, if you are responsible for the implementation of the server here, check to make sure there aren't two steps trying to encode the same content.

How to add DOM element script to head section?

This is an old question, and I know its asking specifically about adding a script tag into the head, however based on the OPs explanation they actually just intend to execute some JS code which has been obtained via some other JS function.

This is much simpler than adding a script tag into the page.

Simply:

eval(decoded);

Eval will execute a string of JS in-line, without any need to add it to the DOM at all.

I don't think there's ever really a need to add an in-line script tag to the DOM after page load.

Where does Git store files?

I'm on Windows and found my location by right clicking the Git Bash program in my Start menu and selecting Properties. The Shortcut tab shows the "Start in:" value. For me, it was %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%, so I opened a CMD prompt and typed echo %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% to see the actual location.

Bash Script : what does #!/bin/bash mean?

In bash script, what does #!/bin/bash at the 1st line mean ?

In Linux system, we have shell which interprets our UNIX commands. Now there are a number of shell in Unix system. Among them, there is a shell called bash which is very very common Linux and it has a long history. This is a by default shell in Linux.

When you write a script (collection of unix commands and so on) you have a option to specify which shell it can be used. Generally you can specify which shell it wold be by using Shebang(Yes that's what it's name).

So if you #!/bin/bash in the top of your scripts then you are telling your system to use bash as a default shell.

Now coming to your second question :Is there a difference between #!/bin/bash and #!/bin/sh ?

The answer is Yes. When you tell #!/bin/bash then you are telling your environment/ os to use bash as a command interpreter. This is hard coded thing.

Every system has its own shell which the system will use to execute its own system scripts. This system shell can be vary from OS to OS(most of the time it will be bash. Ubuntu recently using dash as default system shell). When you specify #!/bin/sh then system will use it's internal system shell to interpreting your shell scripts.

Visit this link for further information where I have explained this topic.

Hope this will eliminate your confusions...good luck.

Search in lists of lists by given index

>>> the_list =[ ['a','b'], ['a','c'], ['b','d'] ]
>>> "b" in zip(*the_list)[1]
True

zip() takes a bunch of lists and groups elements together by index, effectively transposing the list-of-lists matrix. The asterisk takes the contents of the_list and sends it to zip as arguments, so you're effectively passing the three lists separately, which is what zip wants. All that remains is to check if "b" (or whatever) is in the list made up of elements with the index you're interested in.

android: data binding error: cannot find symbol class

After ensuring the naming conventions are correct as described in other answers, and also trying to invalidate the cache and restart, deleting temp/cache folders the issue still persisted for me.

I got rid of it as follows: Add a new dummy XML resource. This will trigger bindings and its meta-data to re-create across the project. The annoying compile errors should no longer be visible anymore. You now delete the dummy XML you added.

For me as of August 2020, the Binding would automatically get corrupted repeatedly. It seems to be biting more than it can chew under the hood.

Example for boost shared_mutex (multiple reads/one write)?

1800 INFORMATION is more or less correct, but there are a few issues I wanted to correct.

boost::shared_mutex _access;
void reader()
{
  boost::shared_lock< boost::shared_mutex > lock(_access);
  // do work here, without anyone having exclusive access
}

void conditional_writer()
{
  boost::upgrade_lock< boost::shared_mutex > lock(_access);
  // do work here, without anyone having exclusive access

  if (something) {
    boost::upgrade_to_unique_lock< boost::shared_mutex > uniqueLock(lock);
    // do work here, but now you have exclusive access
  }

  // do more work here, without anyone having exclusive access
}

void unconditional_writer()
{
  boost::unique_lock< boost::shared_mutex > lock(_access);
  // do work here, with exclusive access
}

Also Note, unlike a shared_lock, only a single thread can acquire an upgrade_lock at one time, even when it isn't upgraded (which I thought was awkward when I ran into it). So, if all your readers are conditional writers, you need to find another solution.

How to add certificate chain to keystore?

From the keytool man - it imports certificate chain, if input is given in PKCS#7 format, otherwise only the single certificate is imported. You should be able to convert certificates to PKCS#7 format with openssl, via openssl crl2pkcs7 command.

PHP Echo a large block of text

I prefer to concatenate multiple Strings together. This works either for echo AND for variables. Also some IDEs auto-initialize new lines if you hit enter. This Syntax also generate small output because there are much less whitespaces in the strings.

echo ''
    .'one {'
    .'    color: red;'
    .'}'
    ;

$foo = ''
    .'<h1>' . $bar . '</h1>'  // insert value of bar
    .$bar // insert value of bar again
    ."<p>$bar</p>"            // and again
    ."<p>You can also use Double-Quoted \t Strings for single lines. \n To use Escape Sequences.</p>"
    // also you can insert comments in middle, which aren't in the string.
    .'<p>Or to insert Escape Sequences in middle '."\n".' of a string</p>'
    ;

Normally i start with an empty string and then append bit by bit to it:

$foo = '';

$foo .= 'function sayHello()'
    .'    alert( "Hello" );'
    ."}\n";

$foo .= 'function sum( a , b )'
    .'{'
    .'    return a + b ;'
    ."}\n";

I give you another solution to solve problems like this.)

iOS 7 - Failing to instantiate default view controller

If you have been committing your code to source control regularly, this may save you the hassle of creating a new Storyboard and possibly introducing more problems...

I was able to solve this by comparing the Git source code of the version that worked against the broken one. The diff showed that the first line should contain the Id of the initial view controller, in my case, initialViewController="Q7U-eo-vxw". I searched through the source code to be sure that the id existed. All I had to do was put it back and everything worked again!

<document type="com.apple.InterfaceBuilder3.CocoaTouch.Storyboard.XIB" version="3.0" toolsVersion="5056" systemVersion="13E28" targetRuntime="iOS.CocoaTouch" propertyAccessControl="none" initialViewController="Q7U-eo-vxw">
    <dependencies>
        <deployment defaultVersion="1296" identifier="iOS"/>
        <plugIn identifier="com.apple.InterfaceBuilder.IBCocoaTouchPlugin" version="3733"/>
    </dependencies>
    <scenes>

Here are some steps that can help you troubleshoot:

  1. Right click the failing Storyboard and use Source Control > Commit... to preserve your changes since the last commit.
  2. Try right clicking your failing Storyboard and use "Open As > Source Code" to view the XML of the storyboard.
  3. In the document element, look for the attribute named "initialViewController". If it is missing, don't worry, we'll fix that. If it is there, double click the id that is assigned to it, command-c to copy it, command-f command-v to search for it deeper in the document. This is the identifier of the controller that should provide the initial view. If it is not defined in the document then that is a problem - you should remove it from the document tag, in my case initialViewController="Q7U-eo-vxw".
  4. Go to Xcode menu item called View and choose Version Editor > Show Comparison View
  5. This shows your local version on the left and the historical version on the right. Click on the date beneath the historical version to get a list of the commits for this story board. Choose one that you know worked and compare the document element. What is the id of the *initialViewController? Is it different? If so, try editing it back in by hand and running. xcode historical compare tool in action

Replace a string in shell script using a variable

To let your shell expand the variable, you need to use double-quotes like

sed -i "s#12345678#$replace#g" file.txt

This will break if $replace contain special sed characters (#, \). But you can preprocess $replace to quote them:

replace_quoted=$(printf '%s' "$replace" | sed 's/[#\]/\\\0/g')
sed -i "s#12345678#$replace_quoted#g" file.txt

Property 'value' does not exist on type EventTarget in TypeScript

you can also create your own interface as well.

    export interface UserEvent {
      target: HTMLInputElement;
    }

       ...

    onUpdatingServerName(event: UserEvent) {
      .....
    }

How to programmatically disable page scrolling with jQuery

You can cover-up the window with a scrollable div for preventing scrolling of the content on a page. And, by hiding and showing, you can lock/unlock your scroll.

Do something like this:

#scrollLock {
    width: 100%;
    height: 100%;
    position: fixed;
    overflow: scroll;
    opacity: 0;
    display:none
}

#scrollLock > div {
    height: 99999px;
}

function scrollLock(){
    $('#scrollLock').scrollTop('10000').show();
}

function scrollUnlock(){
    $('#scrollLock').hide();
}

More Pythonic Way to Run a Process X Times

The for loop is definitely more pythonic, as it uses Python's higher level built in functionality to convey what you're doing both more clearly and concisely. The overhead of range vs xrange, and assigning an unused i variable, stem from the absence of a statement like Verilog's repeat statement. The main reason to stick to the for range solution is that other ways are more complex. For instance:

from itertools import repeat

for unused in repeat(None, 10):
    del unused # redundant and inefficient, the name is clear enough
    print "This is run 10 times"

Using repeat instead of range here is less clear because it's not as well known a function, and more complex because you need to import it. The main style guides if you need a reference are PEP 20 - The Zen of Python and PEP 8 - Style Guide for Python Code.

We also note that the for range version is an explicit example used in both the language reference and tutorial, although in that case the value is used. It does mean the form is bound to be more familiar than the while expansion of a C-style for loop.
