bootstrap 3 wrap text content within div for horizontal alignment

Your code is working fine using bootatrap v3.3.7, but you can use word-break: break-word if it's not working at your end.

which would then look like this -

How to check if object property exists with a variable holding the property name?

For own property :

var loan = { amount: 150 };
if(Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(loan, "amount"))
{
   //will execute
}

Note: using Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty is better than loan.hasOwnProperty(..), in case a custom hasOwnProperty is defined in the prototype chain (which is not the case here), like

var foo = {
      hasOwnProperty: function() {
        return false;
      },
      bar: 'Here be dragons'
    };

// https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Object/hasOwnProperty

To include inherited properties in the finding use the in operator: (but you must place an object at the right side of 'in', primitive values will throw error, e.g. 'length' in 'home' will throw error, but 'length' in new String('home') won't)

const yoshi = { skulk: true };
const hattori = { sneak: true };
const kuma = { creep: true };
if ("skulk" in yoshi)
    console.log("Yoshi can skulk");

if (!("sneak" in yoshi))
    console.log("Yoshi cannot sneak");

if (!("creep" in yoshi))
    console.log("Yoshi cannot creep");

Object.setPrototypeOf(yoshi, hattori);

if ("sneak" in yoshi)
    console.log("Yoshi can now sneak");
if (!("creep" in hattori))
    console.log("Hattori cannot creep");

Object.setPrototypeOf(hattori, kuma);

if ("creep" in hattori)
    console.log("Hattori can now creep");
if ("creep" in yoshi)
    console.log("Yoshi can also creep");

// https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Operators/in

Note: One may be tempted to use typeof and [ ] property accessor as the following code which doesn't work always ...

var loan = { amount: 150 };

loan.installment = undefined;

if("installment" in loan) // correct
{
    // will execute
}

if(typeof loan["installment"] !== "undefined") // incorrect
{
    // will not execute
}

How do I localize the jQuery UI Datepicker?

The string $.datepicker.regional['it'] not translate all words.

For translate the datepicker you must specify some variables:

$.datepicker.regional['it'] = {
    closeText: 'Chiudi', // set a close button text
    currentText: 'Oggi', // set today text
    monthNames: ['Gennaio','Febbraio','Marzo','Aprile','Maggio','Giugno',   'Luglio','Agosto','Settembre','Ottobre','Novembre','Dicembre'], // set month names
    monthNamesShort: ['Gen','Feb','Mar','Apr','Mag','Giu','Lug','Ago','Set','Ott','Nov','Dic'], // set short month names
    dayNames: ['Domenica','Luned&#236','Marted&#236','Mercoled&#236','Gioved&#236','Venerd&#236','Sabato'], // set days names
    dayNamesShort: ['Dom','Lun','Mar','Mer','Gio','Ven','Sab'], // set short day names
    dayNamesMin: ['Do','Lu','Ma','Me','Gio','Ve','Sa'], // set more short days names
    dateFormat: 'dd/mm/yy' // set format date
};

$.datepicker.setDefaults($.datepicker.regional['it']);

$(".datepicker").datepicker();

In this case your datepicker is properly translated.

How to parse JSON in Java

I believe the best practice should be to go through the official Java JSON API which are still work in progress.

Android ClassNotFoundException: Didn't find class on path

For those of you who are having this issue on Android Studio, I had the same problem after a merge and for some reason it even persisted after clean and invalidate cash/restart operations which was driving me crazy.

Turns out, it can be fixed by running gradle build once from command line. Simply run the following n the project directory:

./gradlew assemble clean
./gradlew assemble

I hope it'd save someone the time waste and frustration I had to go through.

Detect all Firefox versions in JS

    <script type="text/javascript">
           var isChrome = /Chrome/.test(navigator.userAgent) && /Google
                           Inc/.test(navigator.vendor);
           var isFirefox =
                  navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf('firefox') > -1;
           if (isChrome)
           {
               document.write('<'+'link rel="stylesheet"
                                  href="css/chrome.css" />');

           }
          else if(isFirefox)
           {
               document.write('<'+'link rel="stylesheet"
                                  href="css/Firefox.css" />');
           }
           else
           {
                document.write('<'+'link rel="stylesheet"
                                   href="css/IE.css" />');
            }

     </script>

This works perfect for IE,Firefox and Chrome.

Bootstrap 4 dropdown with search

As of 10. July 2017, the issue of Bootstrap 4 support with bootstrap-select is still open. In the open issue, there are some ad-hoc solutions which you could try with your project.

Or you could use a library like Select2 and add a theme to match Bootstrap 4. Here is an example: Select 2 with Bootstrap 4 (disclaimer: I'm not the author of this blog post and I haven't verified if this still works with the all versions of Bootstrap 4).

How can I calculate the time between 2 Dates in typescript

It doesn't work because Date - Date relies on exactly the kind of type coercion TypeScript is designed to prevent.

There is a workaround this using the + prefix:

var t = Date.now() - +(new Date("2013-02-20T12:01:04.753Z");

Or, if you prefer not to use Date.now():

var t = +(new Date()) - +(new Date("2013-02-20T12:01:04.753Z"));

See discussion here.

Or see Siddharth Singh's answer, below, for a more elegant solution using valueOf()

How to use GNU Make on Windows?

Here's how I got it to work:

  copy c:\MinGW\bin\mingw32-make.exe c:\MinGW\bin\make.exe

What's the -practical- difference between a Bare and non-Bare repository?

A bare repository is nothing but the .git folder itself i.e. the contents of a bare repository is same as the contents of .git folder inside your local working repository.

  • Use bare repository on a remote server to allow multiple contributors to push their work.
  • Non-bare - The one which has working tree makes sense on the local machine of each contributor of your project.

Practical uses for AtomicInteger

The key is that they allow concurrent access and modification safely. They're commonly used as counters in a multithreaded environment - before their introduction this had to be a user written class that wrapped up the various methods in synchronized blocks.

Oracle listener not running and won't start

How can I use iptables on centos 7?

I modified the /etc/sysconfig/ip6tables-config file changing:

IP6TABLES_SAVE_ON_STOP="no"

To:

IP6TABLES_SAVE_ON_STOP="yes"

And this:

IP6TABLES_SAVE_ON_RESTART="no"

To:

IP6TABLES_SAVE_ON_RESTART="yes"

This seemed to save the changes I made using the iptables commands through a reboot.

Override intranet compatibility mode IE8

This question is a duplicate of Force "Internet Explorer 8" browser mode in intranet.

The responses there indicate that it's not possible to disable the compatibility view (on the server side) - https://stackoverflow.com/a/4130343/24267. That certainly seems to be the case, as none of the suggestions I've tried have worked. In IE8 the "Browser Mode" gets set to Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility view no matter what kind of X-UA-Compatible header you send.

I had to do some special handling for IE7 and compatibility mode, which caused the browser to render using IE8 but report it was IE7, broke my code. This is how I fixed my code (I am aware this is a horrible hack and I should be testing for features not browser versions):

isIE8 = navigator.appVersion.indexOf("MSIE") != -1 && parseFloat(navigator.appVersion.split("MSIE")[1]) == 8;
if (!isIE8 && navigator.appVersion.indexOf("MSIE") != -1 && parseFloat(navigator.appVersion.split("MSIE")[1]) == 7 && navigator.appVersion.indexOf("Trident") != -1) {
    // Liar, this is IE8 in compatibility mode.
    isIE8 = true;
}

Is there a better way to iterate over two lists, getting one element from each list for each iteration?

Good to see lots of love for zip in the answers here.

However it should be noted that if you are using a python version before 3.0, the itertools module in the standard library contains an izip function which returns an iterable, which is more appropriate in this case (especially if your list of latt/longs is quite long).

In python 3 and later zip behaves like izip.

Using Java generics for JPA findAll() query with WHERE clause

Hat tip to Adam Bien if you don't want to use createQuery with a String and want type safety:

 @PersistenceContext
 EntityManager em;

 public List<ConfigurationEntry> allEntries() {
        CriteriaBuilder cb = em.getCriteriaBuilder();
        CriteriaQuery<ConfigurationEntry> cq = cb.createQuery(ConfigurationEntry.class);
        Root<ConfigurationEntry> rootEntry = cq.from(ConfigurationEntry.class);
        CriteriaQuery<ConfigurationEntry> all = cq.select(rootEntry);
        TypedQuery<ConfigurationEntry> allQuery = em.createQuery(all);
        return allQuery.getResultList();
 }

How do I change the default location for Git Bash on Windows?

The working solution listed are great, but the problem occurs when you want multiple default home for your git-bash.

A simple workaround is to start git-bash using bat script.

git-bash-to-htdocs.bat

cd C:\xampp\htdocs
"C:\Program Files\Git\git-bash.exe"

The above of course assume git-bash is installed at C:\Program Files\Git\git-bash.exe

You can create multiple .bat file so your git-bash can start where it want to be

How to make parent wait for all child processes to finish?

POSIX defines a function: wait(NULL);. It's the shorthand for waitpid(-1, NULL, 0);, which will suspends the execution of the calling process until any one child process exits. Here, 1st argument of waitpid indicates wait for any child process to end.

In your case, have the parent call it from within your else branch.

What is the difference between VFAT and FAT32 file systems?

FAT32 along with FAT16 and FAT12 are File System Types, but vfat along with umsdos and msdos are drivers, used to mount the FAT file systems in Linux. The choosing of the driver determines how some of the features are applied to the file system, for example, systems mounted with msdos driver don't have long filenames (they are 8.3 format). vfat is the most common driver for mounting FAT32 file systems nowadays.

Source: this wikipedia article

Output of commands like df and lsblk indeed show vfat as the File System Type. But sudo file -sL /dev/<partition> shows FAT (32 bit) if a File System is FAT32.

You can confirm vfat is a module and not a File System Type by running modinfo vfat.

Relational Database Design Patterns?

How to convert enum value to int?

Sometime some C# approach makes the life easier in Java world..:

class XLINK {

}
//Now is trivial to use it like a C# enum:
int rcv = XLINK.ACK;

Activate a virtualenv with a Python script

If you want to run a Python subprocess under the virtualenv, you can do that by running the script using the Python interpreter that lives inside virtualenv's /bin/ directory:

import subprocess

# Path to a Python interpreter that runs any Python script
# under the virtualenv /path/to/virtualenv/
python_bin = "/path/to/virtualenv/bin/python"

# Path to the script that must run under the virtualenv
script_file = "must/run/under/virtualenv/script.py"

subprocess.Popen([python_bin, script_file])

However, if you want to activate the virtualenv under the current Python interpreter instead of a subprocess, you can use the activate_this.py script:

# Doing execfile() on this file will alter the current interpreter's
# environment so you can import libraries in the virtualenv
activate_this_file = "/path/to/virtualenv/bin/activate_this.py"

execfile(activate_this_file, dict(__file__=activate_this_file))

You can achieve this with a few simple extension methods. The following Date extension method returns just the timezone component in ISO format, then you can define another for the date/time part and combine them for a complete date-time-offset string.

Date.prototype.getISOTimezoneOffset = function () {
    const offset = this.getTimezoneOffset();
    return (offset < 0 ? "+" : "-") + Math.floor(Math.abs(offset / 60)).leftPad(2) + ":" + (Math.abs(offset % 60)).leftPad(2);
}

Date.prototype.toISOLocaleString = function () {
    return this.getFullYear() + "-" + (this.getMonth() + 1).leftPad(2) + "-" +
        this.getDate().leftPad(2) + "T" + this.getHours().leftPad(2) + ":" +
        this.getMinutes().leftPad(2) + ":" + this.getSeconds().leftPad(2) + "." +
        this.getMilliseconds().leftPad(3);
}

Number.prototype.leftPad = function (size) {
    var s = String(this);
    while (s.length < (size || 2)) {
        s = "0" + s;
    }
    return s;
}

Example usage:

var date = new Date();
console.log(date.toISOLocaleString() + date.getISOTimezoneOffset());
// Prints "2020-08-05T16:15:46.525+10:00"

I know it's 2020 and most people are probably using Moment.js by now, but a simple copy & pastable solution is still sometimes handy to have.

(The reason I split the date/time and offset methods is because I'm using an old Datejs library which already provides a flexible toString method with custom format specifiers, but just doesn't include the timezone offset. Hence, I added toISOLocaleString for anyone without said library.)

What does .class mean in Java?

If there is no instance available then .class syntax is used to get the corresponding Class object for a class otherwise you can use getClass() method to get Class object. Since, there is no instance of primitive data type, we have to use .class syntax for primitive data types.

    package test;

    public class Test {
       public static void main(String[] args)
       {
          //there is no instance available for class Test, so use Test.class
          System.out.println("Test.class.getName() ::: " + Test.class.getName());

          // Now create an instance of class Test use getClass()
          Test testObj = new Test();
          System.out.println("testObj.getClass().getName() ::: " + testObj.getClass().getName());

          //For primitive type
          System.out.println("boolean.class.getName() ::: " + boolean.class.getName());
          System.out.println("int.class.getName() ::: " + int.class.getName());
          System.out.println("char.class.getName() ::: " + char.class.getName());
          System.out.println("long.class.getName() ::: " + long.class.getName());
       }
    }

In SQL how to compare date values?

Nevermind found an answer. Ty the same for anyone who was willing to reply.

How to get only the date value from a Windows Forms DateTimePicker control?

Following that this question has been already given a good answer, in WinForms we can also set a Custom Format to the DateTimePicker Format property as Vivek said, this allow us to display the date/time in the specified format string within the DateTimePicker, then, it will be simple just as we do to get text from a TextBox.

// Set the Format type and the CustomFormat string.
dateTimePicker1.Format = DateTimePickerFormat.Custom;
dateTimePicker1.CustomFormat = "yyyy/MM/dd";

dateTimePicker1

We are now able to get Date only easily by getting the Text from the DateTimePicker:

MessageBox.Show("Selected Date: " + dateTimePicker1.Text, "DateTimePicker", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information);

enter image description here

NOTE: If you are planning to insert Date only data to a date column type in SQL, see this documentation related to the supported String Literal Formats for date. You can not insert a date in the format string ydm because is not supported:

dateTimePicker1.CustomFormat = "yyyy/dd/MM";
var qr = "INSERT INTO tbl VALUES (@dtp)";
using (var insertCommand = new SqlCommand..
{
   try
   {
     insertCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@dtp", dateTimePicker1.Text);
     con.Open();
     insertCommand.ExecuteScalar();
   }
   catch (Exception ex)
   {
      MessageBox.Show("Exception message: " + ex.Message, "DateTimePicker", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);
   }

the above code ends in the following Exception: enter image description here

Be aware. Cheers.

Python: Remove division decimal

if val % 1 == 0:
    val = int(val)

else:
    val = float(val)

This worked for me.

How it works: if the remainder of the quotient of val and 1 is 0, val has to be an integer and can, therefore, be declared to be int without having to worry about losing decimal numbers.

Compare these two situations:

A:

val = 12.00

if val % 1 == 0:
    val = int(val)
else:
    val = float(val)

print(val)

In this scenario, the output is 12, because 12.00 divided by 1 has the remainder of 0. With this information we know, that val doesn't have any decimals and we can declare val to be int.

B:

val = 13.58

if val % 1 == 0:
    val = int(val)
else:
    val = float(val)

print(val)

This time the output is 13.58, because when val is divided by 1 there is a remainder (0.58) and therefore val is declared to be a float.

By just declaring the number to be an int (without testing the remainder) decimal numbers will be cut off.

This way there are no zeros in the end and no other than the zeros will be ignored.

jQuery creating objects

Another way to make objects in Javascript using JQuery, getting data from the dom and pass it to the object Box and, for example, store them in an array of Boxes, could be:

var box = {}; // my object
var boxes =  []; // my array

$('div.test').each(function (index, value) {
    color = $('p', this).attr('color');
    box = {
        _color: color // being _color a property of `box`
    }
    boxes.push(box);
});

Hope it helps!

Cookies on localhost with explicit domain

localhost: You can use: domain: ".app.localhost" and it will work. The 'domain' parameter needs 1 or more dots in the domain name for setting cookies. Then you can have sessions working across localhost subdomains such as: api.app.localhost:3000.

Change image onmouseover

jQuery has .mouseover() and .html(). You can tie the mouseover event to a function:

  1. Hides the current image.
  2. Replaces the current html image with the one you want to toggle.
  3. Shows the div that you hid.

The same thing can be done when you get the mouseover event indicating that the cursor is no longer hanging over the div.

How to configure SSL certificates with Charles Web Proxy and the latest Android Emulator on Windows?

Things have changed a little in the way Charles provides HTTPS proxying.

First the certificates installation options have been moved to the help menu.

Help -> SSL Proxying -> Install Charles Root Certificate
Help -> SSL Proxying -> Install Charles Root Certificate in iOS Simulators

Charles SSL Proxying

Second, starting in iOS 9 you must provide a NSAppTransportSecurity option in your Info.plist and if you want Charles to work properly as a man in the middle, you must add:

<key>NSTemporaryExceptionAllowsInsecureHTTPLoads</key>
<true/>

as part of the your domains see full example:

<key>NSExceptionDomains</key>
    <dict>
        <key>yourdomain.com</key>
        <dict>
            <key>NSIncludesSubdomains</key>
            <true/>
            <key>NSTemporaryExceptionAllowsInsecureHTTPLoads</key>
            <true/>
            <key>NSTemporaryExceptionMinimumTLSVersion</key>
            <string>TLSv1.1</string>
        </dict>

The reason being (I guess) that Charles at some point communicates in clear http after acting as the man in the middle https server.

Last step is to activate SSL Proxying for this domain in Charles (right click on domain and select Enable SSL Proxying)

enable HTTP Proxying

Better solution without exluding fields from Binding

You should not use your domain models in your views. ViewModels are the correct way to do it.

You need to map your domain model's necessary fields to viewmodel and then use this viewmodel in your controllers. This way you will have the necessery abstraction in your application.

If you never heard of viewmodels, take a look at this.

Is it possible to install both 32bit and 64bit Java on Windows 7?

As stated by pnt you can have multiple versions of both 32bit and 64bit Java installed at the same time on the same machine.

Taking it further from there: Here's how it might be possible to set any runtime parameters for each of those installations:

You can run javacpl.exe or javacpl.cpl of the respective Java-version itself (bin-folder). The specific control panel opens fine. Adding parameters there is possible.

How to generate a Makefile with source in sub-directories using just one makefile

This will do it without painful manipulation or multiple command sequences:

build/%.o: src/%.cpp
src/%.o: src/%.cpp
%.o:
    $(CC) -c $< -o $@

build/test.exe: build/widgets/apple.o build/widgets/knob.o build/tests/blend.o src/ui/flash.o
    $(LD) $^ -o $@

JasperE has explained why "%.o: %.cpp" won't work; this version has one pattern rule (%.o:) with commands and no prereqs, and two pattern rules (build/%.o: and src/%.o:) with prereqs and no commands. (Note that I put in the src/%.o rule to deal with src/ui/flash.o, assuming that wasn't a typo for build/ui/flash.o, so if you don't need it you can leave it out.)

build/test.exe needs build/widgets/apple.o,
build/widgets/apple.o looks like build/%.o, so it needs src/%.cpp (in this case src/widgets/apple.cpp),
build/widgets/apple.o also looks like %.o, so it executes the CC command and uses the prereqs it just found (namely src/widgets/apple.cpp) to build the target (build/widgets/apple.o)

How to use Switch in SQL Server

The CASE is just a "switch" to return a value - not to execute a whole code block.

You need to change your code to something like this:

SELECT
   @selectoneCount = CASE @Temp
                         WHEN 1 THEN @selectoneCount + 1
                         WHEN 2 THEN @selectoneCount + 1
                     END

If @temp is set to none of those values (1 or 2), then you'll get back a NULL

The smallest difference between 2 Angles

If your two angles are x and y, then one of the angles between them is abs(x - y). The other angle is (2 * PI) - abs(x - y). So the value of the smallest of the 2 angles is:

min((2 * PI) - abs(x - y), abs(x - y))

This gives you the absolute value of the angle, and it assumes the inputs are normalized (ie: within the range [0, 2p)).

If you want to preserve the sign (ie: direction) of the angle and also accept angles outside the range [0, 2p) you can generalize the above. Here's Python code for the generalized version:

PI = math.pi
TAU = 2*PI
def smallestSignedAngleBetween(x, y):
    a = (x - y) % TAU
    b = (y - x) % TAU
    return -a if a < b else b

Note that the % operator does not behave the same in all languages, particularly when negative values are involved, so if porting some sign adjustments may be necessary.

Is floating point math broken?

I just saw this interesting issue around floating points:

Consider the following results:

error = (2**53+1) - int(float(2**53+1))
>>> (2**53+1) - int(float(2**53+1))
1

We can clearly see a breakpoint when 2**53+1 - all works fine until 2**53.

>>> (2**53) - int(float(2**53))
0

This happens because of the double-precision binary: IEEE 754 double-precision binary floating-point format: binary64

From the Wikipedia page for Double-precision floating-point format:

Double-precision binary floating-point is a commonly used format on PCs, due to its wider range over single-precision floating point, in spite of its performance and bandwidth cost. As with single-precision floating-point format, it lacks precision on integer numbers when compared with an integer format of the same size. It is commonly known simply as double. The IEEE 754 standard specifies a binary64 as having:

  • Sign bit: 1 bit
  • Exponent: 11 bits
  • Significant precision: 53 bits (52 explicitly stored)

SQL Server - boolean literal?

According to Microsoft: syntax for searching is

[ WHERE <search_condition> ]*

And search condition is:

<search_condition> ::=
    { [ NOT ] <predicate> | ( <search_condition> ) }
    [ { AND | OR } [ NOT ] { <predicate> | ( <search_condition> ) } ]
[ ,...n ]

And predicate is:

<predicate> ::=
    { expression { = | < > | ! = | > | > = | ! > | < | < = | ! < } expression

As you can see, you always have to write two expressions to compare. Here search condition is boolean expression like 1=1, a!=b

Do not confuse search expressions with boolean constants like 'True' or 'False'. You can assign boolean constants to BIT variables

DECLARE @B BIT
SET @B='True'

but in TSQL you can not use boolean constants instead of boolean expressions like this:

SELECT * FROM Somewhere WHERE 'True'

It will not work.

But you can use boolean constants to build two-sided search expression like this:

SEARCH * FROM Somewhere WHERE 'True'='True'

};

$http.get(user.details_path, config).then(function(response) {

Loop through all nested dictionary values?

Your question already has been answered well, but I recommend using isinstance(d, collections.Mapping) instead of isinstance(d, dict). It works for dict(), collections.OrderedDict(), and collections.UserDict().

The generally correct version is:

def myprint(d):
    for k, v in d.items():
        if isinstance(v, collections.Mapping):
            myprint(v)
        else:
            print("{0} : {1}".format(k, v))

How to enter a multi-line command

You can use a space followed by the grave accent (backtick):

Get-ChildItem -Recurse `
  -Filter *.jpg `
  | Select LastWriteTime

However, this is only ever necessary in such cases as shown above. Usually you get automatic line continuation when a command cannot syntactically be complete at that point. This includes starting a new pipeline element:

Get-ChildItem |
  Select Name,Length

will work without problems since after the | the command cannot be complete since it's missing another pipeline element. Also opening curly braces or any other kind of parentheses will allow line continuation directly:

$x=1..5
$x[
  0,3
] | % {
  "Number: $_"
}

Similar to the | a comma will also work in some contexts:

1,
2

Keep in mind, though, similar to JavaScript's Automatic Semicolon Insertion, there are some things that are similarly broken because the line break occurs at a point where it is preceded by a valid statement:

return
  5

will not work.

Finally, strings (in all varieties) may also extend beyond a single line:

'Foo
bar'

They include the line breaks within the string, then.

How to convert int to date in SQL Server 2008

You most likely want to examine the documentation for T-SQL's CAST and CONVERT functions, located in the documentation here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms187928(v=SQL.90).aspx

You will then use one of those functions in your T-SQL query to convert the [idate] column from the database into the datetime format of your liking in the output.

http://andreasglaser.net/post/2008/08/05/Extract-assembly-from-Global-Assembly-Cache-(GAC)-with-network-drive-mapping.aspx

Summary from Article:

  • Map a Network Drive (Explorer -> Tools)
    • Map to \servername\folder (\\YourServer\C$\Windows\Assembly)
  • No need for sharing if you are the Administrator
  • Browse to the drive and extract your assembly

VBA - Select columns using numbers?

I was looking for a similar thing. My problem was to find the last column based on row 5 and then select 3 columns before including the last column.

Dim lColumn As Long

lColumn = ActiveSheet.Cells(5,Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft).Column
MsgBox ("The last used column is: " & lColumn)
Range(Columns(lColumn - 3), Columns(lColumn)).Select

Message box is optional as it is more of a control check. If you want to select the columns after the last column then you simply reverse the range selection

Dim lColumn As Long

lColumn = ActiveSheet.Cells(5,Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft).Column
MsgBox ("The last used column is: " & lColumn)
Range(Columns(lColumn), Columns(lColumn + 3)).Select

JavaScript ternary operator example with functions

There is nothing particularly tricky about the example you posted.

In a ternary operator, the first argument (the conditional) is evaluated and if the result is true, the second argument is evaluated and returned, otherwise, the third is evaluated and returned. Each of those arguments can be any valid code block, including function calls.

Think of it this way:

var x = (1 < 2) ? true : false;

Could also be written as:

var x = (1 < 2) ? getTrueValue() : getFalseValue();

This is perfectly valid, and those functions can contain any arbitrary code, whether it is related to returning a value or not. Additionally, the results of the ternary operation don't have to be assigned to anything, just as function results do not have to be assigned to anything:

(1 < 2) ? getTrueValue() : getFalseValue();

Now simply replace those with any arbitrary functions, and you are left with something like your example:

(1 < 2) ? removeItem($this) : addItem($this);

Now your last example really doesn't need a ternary at all, as it can be written like this:

x = (1 < 2);  // x will be set to "true"

Counting repeated elements in an integer array

public static void main(String[] args) {
    Scanner input=new Scanner(System.in);
    int[] numbers=new int[5];
    String x=null;
    System.out.print("enter the number 10:"+"/n");
    for(int i=0;i<5;i++){
        numbers[i] = input.nextInt();
    }
    System.out.print("Numbers  :  count"+"\n");
    int count=1;
    Arrays.sort(numbers);
    for(int z=0;z<5;z++){
        for(int j=0;j<z;j++){
            if(numbers[z]==numbers[j] & j!=z){
                count=count+1;
            }
        }
        System.out.print(numbers[z]+" - "+count+"\n");
        count=1;

    }

How to remove special characters from a string?

That depends on what you define as special characters, but try replaceAll(...):

String result = yourString.replaceAll("[-+.^:,]","");

Note that the ^ character must not be the first one in the list, since you'd then either have to escape it or it would mean "any but these characters".

Another note: the - character needs to be the first or last one on the list, otherwise you'd have to escape it or it would define a range ( e.g. :-, would mean "all characters in the range : to ,).

So, in order to keep consistency and not depend on character positioning, you might want to escape all those characters that have a special meaning in regular expressions (the following list is not complete, so be aware of other characters like (, {, $ etc.):

String result = yourString.replaceAll("[\\-\\+\\.\\^:,]","");

If you want to get rid of all punctuation and symbols, try this regex: \p{P}\p{S} (keep in mind that in Java strings you'd have to escape back slashes: "\\p{P}\\p{S}").

A third way could be something like this, if you can exactly define what should be left in your string:

String  result = yourString.replaceAll("[^\\w\\s]","");

This means: replace everything that is not a word character (a-z in any case, 0-9 or _) or whitespace.

Edit: please note that there are a couple of other patterns that might prove helpful. However, I can't explain them all, so have a look at the reference section of regular-expressions.info.

Here's less restrictive alternative to the "define allowed characters" approach, as suggested by Ray:

String  result = yourString.replaceAll("[^\\p{L}\\p{Z}]","");

The regex matches everything that is not a letter in any language and not a separator (whitespace, linebreak etc.). Note that you can't use [\P{L}\P{Z}] (upper case P means not having that property), since that would mean "everything that is not a letter or not whitespace", which almost matches everything, since letters are not whitespace and vice versa.

Additional information on Unicode

Some unicode characters seem to cause problems due to different possible ways to encode them (as a single code point or a combination of code points). Please refer to regular-expressions.info for more information.

What is Model in ModelAndView from Spring MVC?

new ModelAndView("welcomePage", "WelcomeMessage", message);

is shorthand for

ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView();
mav.setViewName("welcomePage");
mav.addObject("WelcomeMessage", message);

Looking at the code above, you can see the view name is "welcomePage". Your ViewResolver (usually setup in .../WEB-INF/spring-servlet.xml) will translate this into a View. The last line of the code sets an attribute in your model (addObject("WelcomeMessage", message)). That's where the model comes into play.

jQuery remove selected option from this

This should do the trick:

$('#some_select_box').click(function() {
  $('option:selected', this ).remove();
});

Read Numeric Data from a Text File in C++

It can depend, especially on whether your file will have the same number of items on each row or not. If it will, then you probably want a 2D matrix class of some sort, usually something like this:

class array2D {
    std::vector<double> data;
    size_t columns;
public:
    array2D(size_t x, size_t y) : columns(x), data(x*y) {}

    double &operator(size_t x, size_t y) {
       return data[y*columns+x];
    }
};

Note that as it's written, this assumes you know the size you'll need up-front. That can be avoided, but the code gets a little larger and more complex.

In any case, to read the numbers and maintain the original structure, you'd typically read a line at a time into a string, then use a stringstream to read numbers from the line. This lets you store the data from each line into a separate row in your array.

If you don't know the size ahead of time or (especially) if different rows might not all contain the same number of numbers:

11 12 13
23 34 56 78

You might want to use a std::vector<std::vector<double> > instead. This does impose some overhead, but if different rows may have different sizes, it's an easy way to do the job.

std::vector<std::vector<double> > numbers;

std::string temp;

while (std::getline(infile, temp)) {
    std::istringstream buffer(temp);
    std::vector<double> line((std::istream_iterator<double>(buffer)),
                             std::istream_iterator<double>());

    numbers.push_back(line);
}

...or, with a modern (C++11) compiler, you can use brackets for line's initialization:

    std::vector<double> line{std::istream_iterator<double>(buffer),
                             std::istream_iterator<double>()};

PostgreSQL wildcard LIKE for any of a list of words

One 'elegant' solution would be to use full text search: http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.0/interactive/textsearch.html. Then you would use full text search queries.

pandas convert some columns into rows

I guess I found a simpler solution

temp1 = pd.melt(df1, id_vars=["location"], var_name='Date', value_name='Value')
temp2 = pd.melt(df1, id_vars=["name"], var_name='Date', value_name='Value')

Concat whole temp1 with temp2's column name

temp1['new_column'] = temp2['name']

You now have what you asked for.

Background color not showing in print preview

FOR THOSE USING BOOTSTRAP.CSS, this is the fix!

I have tried all the solutions and they weren't working... until I discovered that bootstrap.css had a super annoying @media print that resets all your colors, background-colors, shadows, etc...

@media print{*,:after,:before{color:#000!important;text-shadow:none!important;background:0 0!important;-webkit-box-shadow:none!important;box-shadow:none!important}

So either remove this section from bootstrap.css (or bootstrap.min.css)

Or override these values in the css of the page you want to print in your own @media print

@media print {
  body {
    -webkit-print-color-adjust: exact;
  }
  .customClass{
     //customCss + !important;
  }
  //more of your custom css
}

What is difference between monolithic and micro kernel?

  1. Monolithic kernel design is much older than the microkernel idea, which appeared at the end of the 1980's.

  2. Unix and Linux kernels are monolithic, while QNX, L4 and Hurd are microkernels. Mach was initially a microkernel (not Mac OS X), but later converted into a hybrid kernel. Minix (before version 3) wasn't a pure microkernel because device drivers were compiled as part of the kernel.

  3. Monolithic kernels are usually faster than microkernels. The first microkernel Mach was 50% slower than most monolithic kernels, while later ones like L4 were only 2% or 4% slower than the monolithic designs.

  4. Monolithic kernels are big in size, while microkernels are small in size - they usually fit into the processor's L1 cache (first generation microkernels).

  5. In monolithic kernels, the device drivers reside in the kernel space while in the microkernels the device drivers are user-space.

  6. Since monolithic kernels' device drivers reside in the kernel space, monolithic kernels are less secure than microkernels, and failures (exceptions) in the drivers may lead to crashes (displayed as BSODs in Windows). Microkernels are more secure than monolithic kernels, hence more often used in military devices.

  7. Monolithic kernels use signals and sockets to implement inter-process communication (IPC), microkernels use message queues. 1st gen microkernels didn't implement IPC well and were slow on context switches - that's what caused their poor performance.

  8. Adding a new feature to a monolithic system means recompiling the whole kernel or the corresponding kernel module (for modular monolithic kernels), whereas with microkernels you can add new features or patches without recompiling.

Set a cookie to never expire

You shouldn't do that and that's not possible anyway, If you want you can set a greater value such as 10 years ahead.

By the way, I have never seen a cookie with such requirement :)

How to run TypeScript files from command line?

We have following steps:

  1. First you need to install typescript

    npm install -g typescript

  2. Create one file helloworld.ts

    function hello(person){
       return "Hello, " + person;
    }
    let user = "Aamod Tiwari";
    const result = hello(user);
    console.log("Result", result)

  3. Open command prompt and type the following command

    tsc helloworld.ts

  4. Again run the command

    node helloworld.js

  5. Result will display on console

Delete all files of specific type (extension) recursively down a directory using a batch file

You can use this to delete ALL Files Inside a Folder and Subfolders:

Ruby Hash to array of values

It is as simple as

hash.values
#=> [["a", "b", "c"], ["b", "c"]]

this will return a new array populated with the values from hash

if you want to store that new array do

array_of_values = hash.values
#=> [["a", "b", "c"], ["b", "c"]]

array_of_values
 #=> [["a", "b", "c"], ["b", "c"]]

Difference between List, List<?>, List<T>, List<E>, and List<Object>

In your third point, "T" cannot be resolved because its not declared, usually when you declare a generic class you can use "T" as the name of the bound type parameter, many online examples including oracle's tutorials use "T" as the name of the type parameter, say for example, you declare a class like:

public class FooHandler<T>
{
   public void operateOnFoo(T foo) { /*some foo handling code here*/}

}

you are saying that FooHandler's operateOnFoo method expects a variable of type "T" which is declared on the class declaration itself, with this in mind, you can later add another method like

public void operateOnFoos(List<T> foos)

in all the cases either T, E or U there all identifiers of the type parameter, you can even have more than one type parameter which uses the syntax

public class MyClass<Atype,AnotherType> {}

in your forth ponint although efectively Sting is a sub type of Object, in generics classes there is no such relation, List<String> is not a sub type of List<Object> they are two diferent types from the compiler point of view, this is best explained in this blog entry

How to parse JSON and access results

If your $result variable is a string json like, you must use json_decode function to parse it as an object or array:

$result = '{"Cancelled":false,"MessageID":"402f481b-c420-481f-b129-7b2d8ce7cf0a","Queued":false,"SMSError":2,"SMSIncomingMessages":null,"Sent":false,"SentDateTime":"\/Date(-62135578800000-0500)\/"}';
$json = json_decode($result, true);
print_r($json);

OUTPUT

Array
(
    [Cancelled] =>
    [MessageID] => 402f481b-c420-481f-b129-7b2d8ce7cf0a
    [Queued] =>
    [SMSError] => 2
    [SMSIncomingMessages] =>
    [Sent] =>
    [SentDateTime] => /Date(-62135578800000-0500)/
)

Now you can work with $json variable as an array:

echo $json['MessageID'];
echo $json['SMSError'];
// other stuff

Parse JSON object with string and value only

My pseudocode example will be as follows:

JSONArray jsonArray = "[{id:\"1\", name:\"sql\"},{id:\"2\",name:\"android\"},{id:\"3\",name:\"mvc\"}]";
JSON newJson = new JSON();

for (each json in jsonArray) {
    String id = json.get("id");
    String name = json.get("name");

    newJson.put(id, name);
}

return newJson;

Spring Boot Multiple Datasource

Using two datasources you need their own transaction managers.

@Configuration
public class MySqlDBConfig {
    @Bean
    @Primary
    @ConfigurationProperties(prefix="datasource.test.mysql")
    public DataSource mysqlDataSource(){
         return DataSourceBuilder
                 .create()
                 .build();
    }

    @Bean("mysqlTx")
    public DataSourceTransactionManager mysqlTx() {
        return new DataSourceTransactionManager(mysqlDataSource());
    }

    // same for another DS
}

And then use it accordingly within @Transaction

@Transactional("mysqlTx")
@Repository
public interface UserMysqlDao extends CrudRepository<UserMysql, Integer>{
    public UserMysql findByName(String name);
}

Compare two files and write it to "match" and "nomatch" files

Though its really long back this question was posted, I wish to answer as it might help others. This can be done easily by means of JOINKEYS in a SINGLE step. Here goes the pseudo code:

  • Code JOINKEYS PAIRED(implicit) and get both the records via reformatting filed. If there is NO match from either of files then append/prefix some special character say '$'
  • Compare via IFTHEN for '$', if exists then it doesnt have a paired record, it'll be written into unpaired file and rest to paired file.

Please do get back incase of any questions.

Efficiently convert rows to columns in sql server

This is rather a method than just a single script but gives you much more flexibility.

First of all There are 3 objects:

  1. User defined TABLE type [ColumnActionList] -> holds data as parameter
  2. SP [proc_PivotPrepare] -> prepares our data
  3. SP [proc_PivotExecute] -> execute the script

CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ColumnActionList] AS TABLE ( [ID] [smallint] NOT NULL, [ColumnName] nvarchar NOT NULL, [Action] nchar NOT NULL ); GO

    CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[proc_PivotPrepare]
    (
    @DB_Name        nvarchar(128),
    @TableName      nvarchar(128)
    )
    AS
            SELECT @DB_Name = ISNULL(@DB_Name,db_name())
    DECLARE @SQL_Code nvarchar(max)

    DECLARE @MyTab TABLE (ID smallint identity(1,1), [Column_Name] nvarchar(128), [Type] nchar(1), [Set Action SQL] nvarchar(max));

    SELECT @SQL_Code        =   'SELECT [<| SQL_Code |>] = '' '' '
                                        + 'UNION ALL '
                                        + 'SELECT ''----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------'' '
                                        + 'UNION ALL '
                                        + 'SELECT ''-----| Declare user defined type [ID] / [ColumnName] / [PivotAction] '' '
                                        + 'UNION ALL '
                                        + 'SELECT ''----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------'' '
                                        + 'UNION ALL '

From executing the first query (by passing source DB and table name) you will get a pre-created execution query for the second SP, all you have to do is define is the column from your source: + Stable + Value (will be used to concentrate values based on that) + Dim (column you want to use to pivot by)

Names and datatypes will be defined automatically!

I cant recommend it for any production environments but does the job for adhoc BI requests.

Create request with POST, which response codes 200 or 201 and content

The output is actually dependent on the content type being requested. However, at minimum you should put the resource that was created in Location. Just like the Post-Redirect-Get pattern.

In my case I leave it blank until requested otherwise. Since that is the behavior of JAX-RS when using Response.created().

However, just note that browsers and frameworks like Angular do not follow 201's automatically. I have noted the behaviour in http://www.trajano.net/2013/05/201-created-with-angular-resource/

sed one-liner to convert all uppercase to lowercase?

With tr:

# Converts upper to lower case
$ tr '[:upper:]' '[:lower:]' < input.txt > output.txt

# Converts lower to upper case
$ tr '[:lower:]' '[:upper:]' < input.txt > output.txt

Or, sed on GNU (but not BSD or Mac as they don't support \L or \U):

# Converts upper to lower case
$ sed -e 's/\(.*\)/\L\1/' input.txt > output.txt

# Converts lower to upper case
$ sed -e 's/\(.*\)/\U\1/' input.txt > output.txt

Why is width: 100% not working on div {display: table-cell}?

Just add min-height:100% and min-width:100% and it will work. I had the same problem. You don't need a 3th wrapper

Javascript, Time and Date: Getting the current minute, hour, day, week, month, year of a given millisecond time

Regarding number of days in month just use static switch command and check if (year % 4 == 0) in which case February will have 29 days.

Minute, hour, day etc:

var someMillisecondValue = 511111222127;
var date = new Date(someMillisecondValue);
var minute = date.getMinutes();
var hour = date.getHours();
var day = date.getDate();
var month = date.getMonth();
var year = date.getFullYear();
alert([minute, hour, day, month, year].join("\n"));

SQL Server Format Date DD.MM.YYYY HH:MM:SS

See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187928.aspx

You can concatenate it:

SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), GETDATE(), 104) + ' ' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(8), GETDATE(), 108)

Viewing all `git diffs` with vimdiff

You can try git difftool, it is designed to do this stuff.

First, you need to config diff tool to vimdiff

git config diff.tool vimdiff

Then, when you want to diff, just use git difftool instead of git diff. It will work as you expect.

How do I rename the extension for a bunch of files?

On a Mac...

  1. Install rename if you haven't: brew install rename
  2. rename -S .html .txt *.html

What is the difference between aggregation, composition and dependency?

Aggregation - separable part to whole. The part has a identity of its own, separate from what it is part of. You could pick that part and move it to another object. (real world examples: wheel -> car, bloodcell -> body)

Composition - non-separable part of the whole. You cannot move the part to another object. more like a property. (real world examples: curve -> road, personality -> person, max_speed -> car, property of object -> object )

Note that a relation that is an aggregate in one design can be a composition in another. Its all about how the relation is to be used in that specific design.

dependency - sensitive to change. (amount of rain -> weather, headposition -> bodyposition)

Note: "Bloodcell" -> Blood" could be "Composition" as Blood Cells can not exist without the entity called Blood. "Blood" -> Body" could be "Aggregation" as Blood can exist without the entity called Body.

How do we download a blob url video

There are a variety of ways to get the URL .m3u8 either by viewing the source of a page, looking at the Network tab in the Developer Tools in Chrome, or using a plugin such as HDL/HLS Video Downloader.

With the .m3u8 URL in hand you can then use ffmpeg to download the video to a file like so:

$ ffmpeg -i 'https://url/to/some/file.m3u8' -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc \
    -vcodec copy -c copy -crf 50 file.mp4

How to keep keys/values in same order as declared?

Generally, you can design a class that behaves like a dictionary, mainly be implementing the methods __contains__, __getitem__, __delitem__, __setitem__ and some more. That class can have any behaviour you like, for example prividing a sorted iterator over the keys ...

Check if a variable is of function type

There are several ways so I will summarize them all

  1. Best way is:

    function foo(v) {if (v instanceof Function) {/* do something */} };

    Most performant (no string comparison) and elegant solution - the instanceof operator has been supported in browsers for a very long time, so don't worry - it will work in IE 6.
  2. Next best way is:

    function foo(v) {if (typeof v === "function") {/* do something */} };

    disadvantage of typeof is that it is susceptible to silent failure, bad, so if you have a typo (e.g. "finction") - in this case the `if` will just return false and you won't know you have an error until later in your code
  3. The next best way is:

    function isFunction(functionToCheck) {
        var getType = {};
        return functionToCheck && getType.toString.call(functionToCheck) === '[object Function]';
    }

    This has no advantage over solution #1 or #2 but is a lot less readable. An improved version of this is

    function isFunction(x) {
        return Object.prototype.toString.call(x) == '[object Function]';
    }

    but still lot less semantic than solution #1

How to check certificate name and alias in keystore files?

This will list all certificates:

keytool -list -keystore "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/security/cacerts"

Angular 2 - Setting selected value on dropdown list

This Example solution is for reactive form

 <select formControlName="preferredBankAccountId" class="form-control">
                <option *ngFor="let item of societyAccountDtos" [value]="item.societyAccountId" >
                  {{item.nickName}}
                </option>
              </select>

In the Component:

this.formGroup.patchValue({
        preferredBankAccountId:  object_id_to_be_pre_selected
      });

You can also give this value where you initialize your formGroup or later,depending on your requirement.

You can do this by using [(ngModel)] binding also where you don't have to initialize your formControl.

Example with [(ngModel)] binding

 <select [(ngModel)]="matchedCity" formControlName="city" class="form-control input-sm">
                  <option *ngFor="let city of cities" [ngValue]="city">{{city.cityName}}</option>
                </select>

Here, matchedCity is one of object within cities.

Accessing AppDelegate from framework?

If you're creating a framework the whole idea is to make it portable. Tying a framework to the app delegate defeats the purpose of building a framework. What is it you need the app delegate for?

How to redirect to previous page in Ruby On Rails?

Why does redirect_to(:back) not work for you, why is it a no go?

redirect_to(:back) works like a charm for me. It's just a short cut for redirect_to(request.env['HTTP_REFERER'])

http://apidock.com/rails/ActionController/Base/redirect_to (pre Rails 3) or http://apidock.com/rails/ActionController/Redirecting/redirect_to (Rails 3)

Please note that redirect_to(:back) is being deprecated in Rails 5. You can use

redirect_back(fallback_location: 'something') instead (see http://blog.bigbinary.com/2016/02/29/rails-5-improves-redirect_to_back-with-redirect-back.html)

I would like a solution that can get a response from the url it uses, so I thought http would be great for that functionality, and for that I found this answer really helpful. How do I check Internet Connectivity using HTTP requests(Flutter/Dart)?

Google Maps API OVER QUERY LIMIT per second limit

The geocoder has quota and rate limits. From experience, you can geocode ~10 locations without hitting the query limit (the actual number probably depends on server loading). The best solution is to delay when you get OVER_QUERY_LIMIT errors, then retry. See these similar posts:

How to match all occurrences of a regex

Convert an enum to List<string>

Use Enum's static method, GetNames. It returns a string[], like so:

Enum.GetNames(typeof(DataSourceTypes))

If you want to create a method that does only this for only one type of enum, and also converts that array to a List, you can write something like this:

public List<string> GetDataSourceTypes()
{
    return Enum.GetNames(typeof(DataSourceTypes)).ToList();
}

You will need Using System.Linq; at the top of your class to use .ToList()

What is use of c_str function In c++

Most OLD c++ and c functions, when deal with strings, use const char*.
With STL and std::string, string.c_str() is introduced to be able to convert from std::string to const char*.

That means that if you promise not to change the buffer, you'll be able to use read only string contents. PROMISE = const char*

Inconsistent accessibility: property type is less accessible

Your Delivery class is internal (the default visibility for classes), however the property (and presumably the containing class) are public, so the property is more accessible than the Delivery class. You need to either make Delivery public, or restrict the visibility of the thelivery property.

How to apply Hovering on html area tag?

You can use jQuery to achieve this

Example:

$(function () {
        $('.map').maphilight();
    });

Go through this LINK to know more.

If the above one doesnt work then go through this link.

EDIT :

Give same class to each area tag like class="mapping"

and try this below code

$('.mapping').mouseover(function() {
    alert($(this).attr('id'));
}).mouseout(function(){
    alert('Mouseout....');

get current date from [NSDate date] but set the time to 10:00 am

You can use this method for any minute / hour / period (aka am/pm) combination:

- (NSDate *)todayModifiedWithHours:(NSString *)hours
                           minutes:(NSString *)minutes
                         andPeriod:(NSString *)period
{
    NSDate *todayModified = NSDate.date;

    NSCalendar *calendar = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier:NSGregorianCalendar];

    NSDateComponents *components = [calendar components:NSYearCalendarUnit|NSMonthCalendarUnit|NSDayCalendarUnit|NSMinuteCalendarUnit fromDate:todayModified];

    [components setMinute:minutes.intValue];

    int hour = 0;

    if ([period.uppercaseString isEqualToString:@"AM"]) {

        if (hours.intValue == 12) {
            hour = 0;
        }
        else {
            hour = hours.intValue;
        }
    }
    else if ([period.uppercaseString isEqualToString:@"PM"]) {

        if (hours.intValue != 12) {
            hour = hours.intValue + 12;
        }
        else {
            hour = 12;
        }
    }
    [components setHour:hour];

    todayModified = [calendar dateFromComponents:components];

    return todayModified;
}

Requested Example:

NSDate *todayAt10AM = [self todayModifiedWithHours:@"10"
                                           minutes:@"00"
                                         andPeriod:@"am"];

How to make a HTML Page in A4 paper size page(s)?

Technically, you could, but it would take a lot of work to get all browsers to print out the page exactly as it is displayed on screen. Also, most browsers force the URL, print date and page numbering on the print-out, which is not always desired. This cannot be altered or disabled.

Instead, I would advise to create a PDF based on the contents on screen and serve the PDF for downloading and/or printing. Although most available PDF libraries are paid, there are a few free alternatives available for creating basic PDFs.

What does elementFormDefault do in XSD?

ElementFormDefault has nothing to do with namespace of the types in the schema, it's about the namespaces of the elements in XML documents which comply with the schema.

Here's the relevent section of the spec:

Element Declaration Schema

Component Property  {target namespace}
Representation If form is present and its ·actual value· is qualified,
                    or if form is absent and the ·actual value· of
                    elementFormDefault on the <schema> ancestor is qualified,
                    then the ·actual value· of the targetNamespace [attribute]
                    of the parent <schema> element information item, or
                    ·absent· if there is none, otherwise ·absent·.

What that means is that the targetNamespace you've declared at the top of the schema only applies to elements in the schema compliant XML document if either elementFormDefault is "qualified" or the element is declared explicitly in the schema as having form="qualified".

For example: If elementFormDefault is unqualified -

<element name="name" type="string" form="qualified"></element>
<element name="page" type="target:TypePage"></element>

will expect "name" elements to be in the targetNamespace and "page" elements to be in the null namespace.

To save you having to put form="qualified" on every element declaration, stating elementFormDefault="qualified" means that the targetNamespace applies to each element unless overridden by putting form="unqualified" on the element declaration.

Where can I find a list of escape characters required for my JSON ajax return type?

Right away, I can tell that at least the double quotes in the HTML tags are gonna be a problem. Those are probably all you'll need to escape for it to be valid JSON; just replace

"

with

\"

As for outputting user-input text, you do need to make sure you run it through HttpUtility.HtmlEncode() to avoid XSS attacks and to make sure that it doesn't screw up the formatting of your page.

How do I link object files in C? Fails with "Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64"

The existing answers already cover the "how", but I just wanted to elaborate on the "what" and "why" for others who might be wondering.

What a compiler (gcc) does: The term "compile" is a bit of an overloaded term because it is used at a high-level to mean "convert source code to a program", but more technically means to "convert source code to object code". A compiler like gcc actually performs two related, but arguably distinct functions to turn your source code into a program: compiling (as in the latter definition of turning source to object code) and linking (the process of combining the necessary object code files together into one complete executable).

The original error that you saw is technically a "linking error", and is thrown by "ld", the linker. Unlike (strict) compile-time errors, there is no reference to source code lines, as the linker is already in object space.

By default, when gcc is given source code as input, it attempts to compile each and then link them all together. As noted in the other responses, it's possible to use flags to instruct gcc to just compile first, then use the object files later to link in a separate step. This two-step process may seem unnecessary (and probably is for very small programs) but it is very important when managing a very large program, where compiling the entire project each time you make a small change would waste a considerable amount of time.

Create a zip file and download it

but the file i am getting from server after download it gives the size of 226 bytes

This is the size of a ZIP header. Apparently there is no data in the downloaded ZIP file. So, can you verify that the files to be added into the ZIP file are, indeed, there (relative to the path of the download PHP script)?

Consider adding a check on addFile too:

foreach($file_names as $file)
{
    $inputFile = $file_path . $file;
    if (!file_exists($inputFile))
        trigger_error("The input file $inputFile does not exist", E_USER_ERROR);
    if (!is_readable($inputFile))
        trigger_error("The input file $inputFile exists, but has wrong permissions or ownership", E_USER_ERROR);
    if (!$zip->addFile($inputFile, $file))
        trigger_error("Could not add $inputFile to ZIP file", E_USER_ERROR);
}

The observed behaviour is consistent with some problem (path error, permission problems, ...) preventing the files from being added to the ZIP file. On receiving an "empty" ZIP file, the client issues an error referring to the ZIP central directory missing (the actual error being that there is no directory, and no files).

Preloading images with JavaScript

I recommend you use a try/catch to prevent some possible issues:

OOP:

    var preloadImage = function (url) {
        try {
            var _img = new Image();
            _img.src = url;
        } catch (e) { }
    }

Standard:

    function preloadImage (url) {
        try {
            var _img = new Image();
            _img.src = url;
        } catch (e) { }
    }

Also, while I love DOM, old stupid browsers may have problems with you using DOM, so avoid it altogether IMHO contrary to freedev's contribution. Image() has better support in old trash browsers.

In PHP, how do you change the key of an array element?

This function will rename an array key, keeping its position, by combining with index searching.

function renameArrKey($arr, $oldKey, $newKey){
    if(!isset($arr[$oldKey])) return $arr; // Failsafe
    $keys = array_keys($arr);
    $keys[array_search($oldKey, $keys)] = $newKey;
    $newArr = array_combine($keys, $arr);
    return $newArr;
}

Usage:

$arr = renameArrKey($arr, 'old_key', 'new_key');

How to read attribute value from XmlNode in C#?

If you use chldNode as XmlElement instead of XmlNode, you can use

var attributeValue = chldNode.GetAttribute("Name");

The return value will just be an empty string, in case the attribute name does not exist.

So your loop could look like this:

XmlDocument document = new XmlDocument();
var nodes = document.SelectNodes("//Node/N0de/node");

foreach (XmlElement node in nodes)
{
    var attributeValue = node.GetAttribute("Name");
}

This will select all nodes <node> surrounded by <Node><N0de></N0de><Node> tags and subsequently loop through them and read the attribute "Name".

Where does PHP store the error log? (php5, apache, fastcgi, cpanel)

Search the httpd.conf file for ErrorLog by running cat <file location> | grep ErrorLog on the command line. For example:

$ cat /etc/apache2/httpd.conf | grep ErrorLog

Output:

# ErrorLog: The location of the error log file.
# If you do not specify an ErrorLog directive within a <VirtualHost>
ErrorLog "/private/var/log/apache2/error_log"

Find the line that starts with ErrorLog and there's your answer.

Note: For virtual hosts, you can edit the virtual hosts file httpd-vhosts.conf to specify a different log file location.

Convert String to Float in Swift

For the sake of completeness this is a solution using an extension of UITextField which can also consider a different locale.

For Swift 3+

extension UITextField {
    func floatValue(locale : Locale = Locale.current) -> Float {
        let numberFormatter = NumberFormatter()
        numberFormatter.numberStyle = .decimal
        numberFormatter.locale = locale

        let nsNumber = numberFormatter.number(from: text!)
        return nsNumber == nil ? 0.0 : nsNumber!.floatValue
    }
}

XAMPP PORT 80 is Busy / EasyPHP error in Apache configuration file:

xampp port 80 is busy when some other application is using the same port at that time. This can be solved by using one of the following methods:

  1. Detect the application which is using the port 80 and close it.
  2. This one is more efficient. xampp installs apache server with default port 80. So, you can change this port manually to any number.

Just find the httpd.conf file in xampp installation and replace the following line of code.

#Listen 12.34.56.78:1234
Listen 80

to any port number of your choice. Here, i have taken 8000.

#Listen 12.34.56.78:1234
Listen 8000

Find the following code in the same file httpd.conf

ServerName localhost

Replace with the following, take the same number you have used in upper code.

ServerName localhost:8000

android: how to use getApplication and getApplicationContext from non activity / service class

The getApplication() method is located in the Activity class, so whenever you want getApplication() in a non activity class you have to pass an Activity instance to the constructor of that non activity class.

assume that test is my non activity class:

Test test = new Test(this);

In that class i have created one constructor:

 public Class Test
 {
    public Activity activity;
    public Test (Activity act)
    {
         this.activity = act;
         // Now here you can get getApplication()
    }
 }

Python syntax for "if a or b or c but not all of them"

The English sentence:

“if a or b or c but not all of them”

Translates to this logic:

(a or b or c) and not (a and b and c)

The word "but" usually implies a conjunction, in other words "and". Furthermore, "all of them" translates to a conjunction of conditions: this condition, and that condition, and other condition. The "not" inverts that entire conjunction.

I do not agree that the accepted answer. The author neglected to apply the most straightforward interpretation to the specification, and neglected to apply De Morgan's Law to simplify the expression to fewer operators:

 not a or not b or not c  ->  not (a and b and c)

while claiming that the answer is a "minimal form".

Using Custom Domains With IIS Express

For Visual Studio 2015 the steps in the above answers apply but the applicationhost.config file is in a new location. In your "solution" folder follow the path, this is confusing if you upgraded and would have TWO versions of applicationhost.config on your machine.

\.vs\config

Within that folder you will see your applicationhost.config file

Alternatively you could just search your solution folder for the .config file and find it that way.

I personally used the following configuration:

enter image description here

With the following in my hosts file:

127.0.0.1       jam.net
127.0.0.1       www.jam.net

And the following in my applicationhost.config file:

<site name="JBN.Site" id="2">
    <application path="/" applicationPool="Clr4IntegratedAppPool">
        <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="C:\Dev\Jam\shoppingcart\src\Web\JBN.Site" />
    </application>
    <bindings>
        <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:49707:" />
            <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:49707:localhost" />
    </bindings>

newline in <td title="">

One way to achieve similar effect would be through CSS:

<td>Cell content.
  <div class="popup">
    This is the popup.
    <br>
    Another line of popup.
  </div>
</td>

And then use the following in CSS:

td div.popup { display: none; }
td:hover div.popup { display: block; position: absolute; }

You will want to add some borders and background to make the popup look decent, but this should sketch the idea. It has some drawbacks though, for example the popup is not positioned relative to mouse but relative to the containing cell.

Sorting a vector of custom objects

In C++20 one can default operator<=> without a user-defined comparator. The compiler will take care of that.

#include <iostream>
#include <compare>
#include <vector>
#include <algorithm>

struct MyInt
{
    int value;
    MyInt(int val) : value(val) {}
    auto operator<=>(const MyInt& other) const = default;
};

int main()
{
    MyInt Five(5);
    MyInt Two(2);
    MyInt Six(6);

    std::vector V{Five, Two, Six};
    std::sort(V.begin(), V.end());

    for (const auto& element : V)
        std::cout << element.value << std::endl;
}

Output:

2

Is it bad practice to use break to exit a loop in Java?

The JLS specifies a break is an abnormal termination of a loop. However, just because it is considered abnormal does not mean that it is not used in many different code examples, projects, products, space shuttles, etc. The JVM specification does not state either an existence or absence of a performance loss, though it is clear code execution will continue after the loop.

However, code readability can suffer with odd breaks. If you're sticking a break in a complex if statement surrounded by side effects and odd cleanup code, with possibly a multilevel break with a label(or worse, with a strange set of exit conditions one after the other), it's not going to be easy to read for anyone.

If you want to break your loop by forcing the iteration variable to be outside the iteration range, or by otherwise introducing a not-necessarily-direct way of exiting, it's less readable than break.

However, looping extra times in an empty manner is almost always bad practice as it takes extra iterations and may be unclear.

How to document Python code using Doxygen

This is documented on the doxygen website, but to summarize here:

You can use doxygen to document your Python code. You can either use the Python documentation string syntax:

"""@package docstring
Documentation for this module.

More details.
"""

def func():
    """Documentation for a function.

    More details.
    """
    pass

In which case the comments will be extracted by doxygen, but you won't be able to use any of the special doxygen commands.

Or you can (similar to C-style languages under doxygen) double up the comment marker (#) on the first line before the member:

## @package pyexample
#  Documentation for this module.
#
#  More details.

## Documentation for a function.
#
#  More details.
def func():
    pass

In that case, you can use the special doxygen commands. There's no particular Python output mode, but you can apparently improve the results by setting OPTMIZE_OUTPUT_JAVA to YES.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised at the difference - it seems like once doxygen can detect the comments in ## blocks or """ blocks, most of the work would be done and you'd be able to use the special commands in either case. Maybe they expect people using """ to adhere to more Pythonic documentation practices and that would interfere with the special doxygen commands?

C++11 rvalues and move semantics confusion (return statement)

The simple answer is you should write code for rvalue references like you would regular references code, and you should treat them the same mentally 99% of the time. This includes all the old rules about returning references (i.e. never return a reference to a local variable).

Unless you are writing a template container class that needs to take advantage of std::forward and be able to write a generic function that takes either lvalue or rvalue references, this is more or less true.

One of the big advantages to the move constructor and move assignment is that if you define them, the compiler can use them in cases were the RVO (return value optimization) and NRVO (named return value optimization) fail to be invoked. This is pretty huge for returning expensive objects like containers & strings by value efficiently from methods.

Now where things get interesting with rvalue references, is that you can also use them as arguments to normal functions. This allows you to write containers that have overloads for both const reference (const foo& other) and rvalue reference (foo&& other). Even if the argument is too unwieldy to pass with a mere constructor call it can still be done:

std::vector vec;
for(int x=0; x<10; ++x)
{
    // automatically uses rvalue reference constructor if available
    // because MyCheapType is an unamed temporary variable
    vec.push_back(MyCheapType(0.f));
}

std::vector vec;
for(int x=0; x<10; ++x)
{
    MyExpensiveType temp(1.0, 3.0);
    temp.initSomeOtherFields(malloc(5000));

    // old way, passed via const reference, expensive copy
    vec.push_back(temp);

    // new way, passed via rvalue reference, cheap move
    // just don't use temp again, not difficult in a loop like this though . . .
    vec.push_back(std::move(temp));
}

The STL containers have been updated to have move overloads for nearly anything (hash key and values, vector insertion, etc), and is where you will see them the most.

You can also use them to normal functions, and if you only provide an rvalue reference argument you can force the caller to create the object and let the function do the move. This is more of an example than a really good use, but in my rendering library, I have assigned a string to all the loaded resources, so that it is easier to see what each object represents in the debugger. The interface is something like this:

TextureHandle CreateTexture(int width, int height, ETextureFormat fmt, string&& friendlyName)
{
    std::unique_ptr<TextureObject> tex = D3DCreateTexture(width, height, fmt);
    tex->friendlyName = std::move(friendlyName);
    return tex;
}

It is a form of a 'leaky abstraction' but allows me to take advantage of the fact I had to create the string already most of the time, and avoid making yet another copying of it. This isn't exactly high-performance code but is a good example of the possibilities as people get the hang of this feature. This code actually requires that the variable either be a temporary to the call, or std::move invoked:

// move from temporary
TextureHandle htex = CreateTexture(128, 128, A8R8G8B8, string("Checkerboard"));

or

// explicit move (not going to use the variable 'str' after the create call)
string str("Checkerboard");
TextureHandle htex = CreateTexture(128, 128, A8R8G8B8, std::move(str));

or

// explicitly make a copy and pass the temporary of the copy down
// since we need to use str again for some reason
string str("Checkerboard");
TextureHandle htex = CreateTexture(128, 128, A8R8G8B8, string(str));

but this won't compile!

string str("Checkerboard");
TextureHandle htex = CreateTexture(128, 128, A8R8G8B8, str);

Git undo local branch delete

You can use git reflog to find the SHA1 of the last commit of the branch. From that point, you can recreate a branch using

git branch branchName <sha1>

Edit: As @seagullJS says, the branch -D command tells you the sha1, so if you haven't closed the terminal yet it becomes real easy. For example this deletes and then immediately restores a branch named master2:

user@MY-PC /C/MyRepo (master)
$ git branch -D master2
Deleted branch master2 (was 130d7ba). <-- This is the SHA1 we need to restore it!

user@MY-PC /C/MyRepo (master)
$ git branch master2 130d7ba

The most efficient way to remove first N elements in a list?

You can use list slicing to archive your goal:

n = 5
mylist = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]
newlist = mylist[n:]
print newlist

Outputs:

[6, 7, 8, 9]

Or del if you only want to use one list:

n = 5
mylist = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]
del mylist[:n]
print mylist

Outputs:

[6, 7, 8, 9]

How do I get the number of days between two dates in JavaScript?

Using moment will be much easier in this case, You could try this:

    let days = moment(yourFirstDateString).diff(moment(yourSecondDateString), 'days');

It will give you integer value like 1,2,5,0etc so you can easily use condition check like:

if(days < 1) {

Also, one more thing is you can get more accurate result of the time difference (in decimals like 1.2,1.5,0.7etc) to get this kind of result use this syntax:

let days = moment(yourFirstDateString).diff(moment(yourSecondDateString), 'days', true);

Bootstrap 3 modal vertical position center

yet another solution which will set a valid position for each visible modal on window.resize event and on show.bs.modal:

(function ($) {
    "use strict";
    function centerModal() {
        $(this).css('display', 'block');
        var $dialog  = $(this).find(".modal-dialog"),
            offset       = ($(window).height() - $dialog.height()) / 2,
            bottomMargin = parseInt($dialog.css('marginBottom'), 10);

        // Make sure you don't hide the top part of the modal w/ a negative margin if it's longer than the screen height, and keep the margin equal to the bottom margin of the modal
        if(offset < bottomMargin) offset = bottomMargin;
        $dialog.css("margin-top", offset);
    }

    $(document).on('show.bs.modal', '.modal', centerModal);
    $(window).on("resize", function () {
        $('.modal:visible').each(centerModal);

    });
})(jQuery);

How to calculate the running time of my program?

You need to get the time when the application starts, and compare that to the time when the application ends.

Wen the app starts:

Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();

// Get start time (this needs to be a global variable).
Date startDate = calendar.getTime();

When the application ends

Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();

// Get start time (this needs to be a global variable).
Date endDate = calendar.getTime();

To get the difference (in millseconds), do this:

long sumDate = endDate.getTime() - startDate.getTime();

How can I fill a div with an image while keeping it proportional?

Here is an answer with support to IE using object-fit so you won't lose ratio

Using a simple JS snippet to detect if the object-fit is supported and then replace the img for a svg

_x000D_
_x000D_
//ES6 version
if ('objectFit' in document.documentElement.style === false) {
  document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', () => {
    document.querySelectorAll('img[data-object-fit]').forEach(image => {
      (image.runtimeStyle || image.style).background = `url("${image.src}") no-repeat 50%/${image.currentStyle ? image.currentStyle['object-fit'] : image.getAttribute('data-object-fit')}`
      image.src = `data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' width='${image.width}' height='${image.height}'%3E%3C/svg%3E`
    })
  })
}

//ES5 version
if ('objectFit' in document.documentElement.style === false) {
  document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
    Array.prototype.forEach.call(document.querySelectorAll('img[data-object-fit]').forEach(function(image) {
      (image.runtimeStyle || image.style).background = "url(\"".concat(image.src, "\") no-repeat 50%/").concat(image.currentStyle ? image.currentStyle['object-fit'] : image.getAttribute('data-object-fit'));
      image.src = "data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' width='".concat(image.width, "' height='").concat(image.height, "'%3E%3C/svg%3E");
    }));
  });
}
_x000D_
img {
  display: inline-flex;
  width: 175px;
  height: 175px;
  margin-right: 10px;
  border: 1px solid red
}

/*for browsers which support object fit */

[data-object-fit='cover'] {
  object-fit: cover
}

[data-object-fit='contain'] {
  object-fit: contain
}
_x000D_
<img data-object-fit='cover' src='//picsum.photos/1200/600' />
<img data-object-fit='contain' src='//picsum.photos/1200/600' />
<img src='//picsum.photos/1200/600' />

Note: There are also a few object-fit polyfills out there that will make object-fit work.

Here are a few examples:

Xcode 5 and iOS 7: Architecture and Valid architectures

My understanding from Apple Docs.

  • What is Architectures (ARCHS) into Xcode build-settings?
    • Specifies architecture/s to which the binary is TARGETED. When specified more that one architecture, the generated binary may contain object code for each of the specified architecture.
  • What is Valid Architectures (VALID_ARCHS) into Xcode build-settings?

    • Specifies architecture/s for which the binary may be BUILT.
    • During build process, this list is intersected with ARCHS and the resulting list specifies the architectures the binary can run on.
  • Example :- One iOS project has following build-settings into Xcode.

    • ARCHS = armv7 armv7s
    • VALID_ARCHS = armv7 armv7s arm64
    • In this case, binary will be built for armv7 armv7s arm64 architectures. But the same binary will run on ONLY ARCHS = armv7 armv7s.

How can you check for a #hash in a URL using JavaScript?

Here's what you can do to periodically check for a change of hash, and then call a function to process the hash value.

var hash = false;
checkHash();

function checkHash(){
    if(window.location.hash != hash) {
        hash = window.location.hash;
        processHash(hash);
    } t=setTimeout("checkHash()",400);
}

function processHash(hash){
    alert(hash);

for el in int_list:

    if el not in unique_list:
        unique_list.append(el)
    else:
        print "Element already in the list"

How to check if $? is not equal to zero in unix shell scripting?

Put it in a variable first and then try to test it, as shown below

ret=$?
if [ $ret -ne 0 ]; then
        echo "In If"
else
        echo "In Else"
fi

This should help.

Edit: If the above is not working as expected then, there is a possibility that you are not using $? at right place. It must be the very next line after the command of which you need to catch the return status. Even if there is any other single command in between the target and you catching it's return status, you'll be retrieving the returns_status of this intermediate command and not the one you are expecting.

How to express a One-To-Many relationship in Django

First of all we take a tour:

01) one-to-many relationship:

ASSUME:

class Business(models.Model):
    name = models.CharField(max_length=200)
    .........
    .........
    phone_number = models.OneToMany(PhoneNumber) (NB: Django do not support OneToMany relationship)

class Dude(models.Model):
    name = models.CharField(max_length=200)
    .........
    .........
    phone_number = models.OneToMany(PhoneNumber) (NB: Django do not support OneToMany relationship)

class PhoneNumber(models.Model):
    number = models.CharField(max_length=20)
    ........
    ........

NB: Django doesn't provides any OneToMany relationship. So we can't use upper method in Django. But we need to convert in relational model. So what can we do? In this situation we need to convert relational model into reverse relational model.

Here:

relational model = OneToMany

So, reverse relational model = ManyToOne

NB: Django support ManyToOne relationship & in Django ManyToOne is represented by ForeignKey.

02) many-to-one relationship:

SOLVE:

class Business(models.Model):
    .........
    .........

class Dude(models.Model):
    .........
    .........

class PhoneNumber(models.Model):
    ........
    ........
    business = models.ForeignKey(Business)
    dude = models.ForeignKey(Dude)

NB: THINK SIMPLY!!

C++ printing boolean, what is displayed?

The standard streams have a boolalpha flag that determines what gets displayed -- when it's false, they'll display as 0 and 1. When it's true, they'll display as false and true.

There's also an std::boolalpha manipulator to set the flag, so this:

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>

int main() {
    std::cout<<false<<"\n";
    std::cout << std::boolalpha;
    std::cout<<false<<"\n";
    return 0;
}

...produces output like:

0
false

For what it's worth, the actual word produced when boolalpha is set to true is localized--that is, <locale> has a num_put category that handles numeric conversions, so if you imbue a stream with the right locale, it can/will print out true and false as they're represented in that locale. For example,

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>
#include <locale>

int main() {
    std::cout.imbue(std::locale("fr"));

    std::cout << false << "\n";
    std::cout << std::boolalpha;
    std::cout << false << "\n";
    return 0;
}

...and at least in theory (assuming your compiler/standard library accept "fr" as an identifier for "French") it might print out faux instead of false. I should add, however, that real support for this is uneven at best--even the Dinkumware/Microsoft library (usually quite good in this respect) prints false for every language I've checked.

The names that get used are defined in a numpunct facet though, so if you really want them to print out correctly for particular language, you can create a numpunct facet to do that. For example, one that (I believe) is at least reasonably accurate for French would look like this:

#include <array>
#include <string>
#include <locale>
#include <ios>
#include <iostream>

class my_fr : public std::numpunct< char > {
protected:
    char do_decimal_point() const { return ','; }
    char do_thousands_sep() const { return '.'; }
    std::string do_grouping() const { return "\3"; }
    std::string do_truename() const { return "vrai";  }
    std::string do_falsename() const { return "faux"; }
};

int main() {
    std::cout.imbue(std::locale(std::locale(), new my_fr));

    std::cout << false << "\n";
    std::cout << std::boolalpha;
    std::cout << false << "\n";
    return 0;
}

And the result is (as you'd probably expect):

0
faux

Pivoting rows into columns dynamically in Oracle

To deal with situations where there are a possibility of multiple values (v in your example), I use PIVOT and LISTAGG:

SELECT * FROM
(
  SELECT id, k, v
  FROM _kv
)
PIVOT
(
  LISTAGG(v ,',')
  WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY k)
  FOR k IN ('name', 'age','gender','status')
)
ORDER BY id;

Since you want dynamic values, use dynamic SQL and pass in the values determined by running a select on the table data before calling the pivot statement.

Use basic authentication with jQuery and Ajax

How things change in a year. In addition to the header attribute in place of xhr.setRequestHeader, current jQuery (1.7.2+) includes a username and password attribute with the $.ajax call.

$.ajax
({
  type: "GET",
  url: "index1.php",
  dataType: 'json',
  username: username,
  password: password,
  data: '{ "comment" }',
  success: function (){
    alert('Thanks for your comment!');
  }
});

EDIT from comments and other answers: To be clear - in order to preemptively send authentication without a 401 Unauthorized response, instead of setRequestHeader (pre -1.7) use 'headers':

$.ajax
({
  type: "GET",
  url: "index1.php",
  dataType: 'json',
  headers: {
    "Authorization": "Basic " + btoa(USERNAME + ":" + PASSWORD)
  },
  data: '{ "comment" }',
  success: function (){
    alert('Thanks for your comment!');
  }
});

Or, in a more structured way...

Sub openwb()
    Dim sPath As String, sFile As String
    Dim wb As Workbook

    sPath = "E:\sarath\PTMetrics\20131004\D8 L538-L550 16MY\"
    sFile = sPath & "D8 L538-L550_16MY_Powertrain Metrics_20131002.xlsm"

Java Web Service client basic authentication

If you are using a JAX-WS implementation for your client, such as Metro Web Services, the following code shows how to pass username and password in the HTTP headers:

 MyService port = new MyService();
 MyServiceWS service = port.getMyServicePort();

 Map<String, List<String>> credentials = new HashMap<String,List<String>>();

 credentials.put("username", Collections.singletonList("username"));
 credentials.put("password", Collections.singletonList("password"));

 ((BindingProvider)service).getRequestContext().put(MessageContext.HTTP_REQUEST_HEADERS, credentials);

Then subsequent calls to the service will be authenticated. Beware that the password is only encoded using Base64, so I encourage you to use other additional mechanism like client certificates to increase security.

How to free memory from char array in C

The memory associated with arr is freed automatically when arr goes out of scope. It is either a local variable, or allocated statically, but it is not dynamically allocated.

A simple rule for you to follow is that you must only every call free() on a pointer that was returned by a call to malloc, calloc or realloc.

GCC -fPIC option

I'll try to explain what has already been said in a simpler way.

Whenever a shared lib is loaded, the loader (the code on the OS which load any program you run) changes some addresses in the code depending on where the object was loaded to.

In the above example, the "111" in the non-PIC code is written by the loader the first time it was loaded.

For not shared objects, you may want it to be like that because the compiler can make some optimizations on that code.

For shared object, if another process will want to "link" to that code he must read it to the same virtual addresses or the "111" will make no sense. but that virtual-space may already be in use in the second process.

How to use continue in jQuery each() loop?

We can break the $.each() loop at a particular iteration by making the callback function return false. Returning non-false is the same as a continue statement in a for loop; it will skip immediately to the next iteration. -- jQuery.each() | jQuery API Documentation

Read text from response

The accepted answer does not correctly dispose the WebResponse or decode the text. Also, there's a new way to do this in .NET 4.5.

To perform an HTTP GET and read the response text, do the following.

.NET 1.1 - 4.0

public static string GetResponseText(string address)
{
    var request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(address);

    using (var response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse())
    {
        var encoding = Encoding.GetEncoding(response.CharacterSet);

        using (var responseStream = response.GetResponseStream())
        using (var reader = new StreamReader(responseStream, encoding))
            return reader.ReadToEnd();
    }
}

.NET 4.5

private static readonly HttpClient httpClient = new HttpClient();

public static async Task<string> GetResponseText(string address)
{
    return await httpClient.GetStringAsync(address);
}

how to parse a "dd/mm/yyyy" or "dd-mm-yyyy" or "dd-mmm-yyyy" formatted date string using JavaScript or jQuery

Update

Below you've said:

Sorry, i can't predict date format before, it should be like dd-mm-yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy or dd-mmm-yyyy format finally i wanted to convert all this format to dd-MMM-yyyy format.

That completely changes the question. It'll be much more complex if you can't control the format. There is nothing built into JavaScript that will let you specify a date format. Officially, the only date format supported by JavaScript is a simplified version of ISO-8601: yyyy-mm-dd, although in practice almost all browsers also support yyyy/mm/dd as well. But other than that, you have to write the code yourself or (and this makes much more sense) use a good library. I'd probably use a library like moment.js or DateJS (although DateJS hasn't been maintained in years).

Original answer:

If the format is always dd/mm/yyyy, then this is trivial:

var parts = str.split("/");
var dt = new Date(parseInt(parts[2], 10),
                  parseInt(parts[1], 10) - 1,
                  parseInt(parts[0], 10));

split splits a string on the given delimiter. Then we use parseInt to convert the strings into numbers, and we use the new Date constructor to build a Date from those parts: The third part will be the year, the second part the month, and the first part the day. Date uses zero-based month numbers, and so we have to subtract one from the month number.
