Programs & Examples On #Video4linux

Video4Linux or V4L is a video capture application programming interface (API) for Linux, supporting many USB webcams, TV tuners, and other devices. Video4Linux is closely integrated with the Linux kernel.

start MySQL server from command line on Mac OS Lion

Try /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe

Example:

shell> sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe
(Enter your password, if necessary)
(Press Control-Z)
shell> bg
(Press Control-D or enter "exit" to exit the shell)

You can also add these to your bash startup scripts:

export MYSQL_HOME=/usr/local/mysql
alias start_mysql='sudo $MYSQL_HOME/bin/mysqld_safe &'
alias stop_mysql='sudo $MYSQL_HOME/bin/mysqladmin shutdown'

How can I convert spaces to tabs in Vim or Linux?

1 - If you have spaces and want tabs.

First, you need to decide how many spaces will have a single tab. That said, suppose you have lines with leading 4 spaces, or 8... Than you realize you probably want a tab to be 4 spaces. Now with that info, you do:

:set ts=4
:set noet
:%retab!

There is a problem here! This sequence of commands will look for all your text, not only spaces in the begin of the line. That mean a string like: "Hey,?this????is?4?spaces" will become "Hey,?this?is?4?spaces", but its not! its a tab!.

To settle this little problem I recomend a search, instead of retab.

:%s/^\(^I*\)????/\1^I/g

This search will look in the whole file for any lines starting with whatever number of tabs, followed by 4 spaces, and substitute it for whatever number of tabs it found plus one.

This, unfortunately, will not run at once!

At first, the file will have lines starting with spaces. The search will then convert only the first 4 spaces to a tab, and let the following...

You need to repeat the command. How many times? Until you get a pattern not found. I cannot think of a way to automatize the process yet. But if you do:

`10@:`

You are probably done. This command repeats the last search/replace for 10 times. Its not likely your program will have so many indents. If it has, just repeat again @@.

Now, just to complete the answer. I know you asked for the opposite, but you never know when you need to undo things.

2 - You have tabs and want spaces.

First, decide how many spaces you want your tabs to be converted to. Lets say you want each tab to be 2 spaces. You then do:

:set ts=2
:set et
:%retab!

This would have the same problem with strings. But as its better programming style to not use hard tabs inside strings, you actually are doing a good thing here. If you really need a tab inside a string, use \t.

How to get a list of MySQL views?

Try moving that mysql.bak directory out of /var/lib/mysql to say /root/ or something. It seems like mysql is finding that and it may be causing that ERROR 1102 (42000): Incorrect database name 'mysql.bak' error.

How can I specify my .keystore file with Spring Boot and Tomcat?

C# JSON Serialization of Dictionary into {key:value, ...} instead of {key:key, value:value, ...}

Unfortunately, this is not currently possible in the latest version of DataContractJsonSerializer. See: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/558686/datacontractjsonserializer-should-serialize-dictionary-k-v-as-a-json-associative-array

The current suggested workaround is to use the JavaScriptSerializer as Mark suggested above.

Good luck!

KeyListener, keyPressed versus keyTyped

keyPressed - when the key goes down
keyReleased - when the key comes up
keyTyped - when the unicode character represented by this key is sent by the keyboard to system input.

I personally would use keyReleased for this. It will fire only when they lift their finger up.

Note that keyTyped will only work for something that can be printed (I don't know if F5 can or not) and I believe will fire over and over again if the key is held down. This would be useful for something like... moving a character across the screen or something.

How do I view Android application specific cache?

Cached files are indeed stored in /data/data/my_app_package/cache

Make sure to store the files using the following method:

String cacheDir = context.getCacheDir();
File imageFile = new File(cacheDir, "image1.jpg");
FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(imageFile);
out.write(imagebuffer, 0, imagebufferlength);

where imagebuffer[] contains image data in byte format and imagebufferlength is the length of the content to be written to the FileOutputStream.

Now, you may look at DDMS File Explorer or do an "adb shell" and cd to /data/data/my_app_package/cache and do an "ls". You will find the image files you have stored through code in this directory.

Moreover, from Android documentation:

If you'd like to cache some data, rather than store it persistently, you should use getCacheDir() to open a File that represents the internal directory where your application should save temporary cache files.

When the device is low on internal storage space, Android may delete these cache files to recover space. However, you should not rely on the system to clean up these files for you. You should always maintain the cache files yourself and stay within a reasonable limit of space consumed, such as 1MB. When the user uninstalls your application, these files are removed.

Display PNG image as response to jQuery AJAX request

You'll need to send the image back base64 encoded, look at this: http://php.net/manual/en/function.base64-encode.php

Then in your ajax call change the success function to this:

$('.div_imagetranscrits').html('<img src="data:image/png;base64,' + data + '" />');

Please initialize the log4j system properly warning

Alright, so I got it working by changing this

log4j.rootLogger=DebugAppender

to this

log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG, DebugAppender

Apparently you have to specify the logging level to the rootLogger first? I apologize if I wasted anyone's time.

Also, I decided to answer my own question because this wasn't a classpath issue.

SQL Server - Convert varchar to another collation (code page) to fix character encoding

We may need more information. Here is what I did to reproduce on SQL Server 2008:

CREATE DATABASE [Test] ON  PRIMARY
    (
    NAME = N'Test'
    , FILENAME = N'...Test.mdf'
    , SIZE = 3072KB
    , FILEGROWTH = 1024KB
    )
    LOG ON
    (
    NAME = N'Test_log'
    , FILENAME = N'...Test_log.ldf'
    , SIZE = 1024KB
    , FILEGROWTH = 10%
    )
    COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
GO
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
SET ANSI_PADDING ON
GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MyTable]
    (
    [SomeCol] [varchar](50) NULL
    ) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
Insert MyTable( SomeCol )
Select '±' Collate SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
GO
Select SomeCol, SomeCol Collate SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
From MyTable

Results show the original character. Declaring collation in the query should return the proper character from SQL Server's perspective however it may be the case that the presentation layer is then converting to something yet different like UTF-8.

Download multiple files as a zip-file using php

This is a working example of making ZIPs in PHP:

$zip = new ZipArchive();
$zip_name = time().".zip"; // Zip name
$zip->open($zip_name,  ZipArchive::CREATE);
foreach ($files as $file) {
  echo $path = "uploadpdf/".$file;
  if(file_exists($path)){
  $zip->addFromString(basename($path),  file_get_contents($path));
  }
  else{
   echo"file does not exist";
  }
}
$zip->close();

Return Result from Select Query in stored procedure to a List

May be this will help:

Getting rows from DB:

public static DataRowCollection getAllUsers(string tableName)
{
     DataSet set = new DataSet();
     SqlCommand comm = new SqlCommand();
     comm.Connection = DAL.DAL.conn;
     comm.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
     comm.CommandText = "getAllUsers";
     SqlDataAdapter da = new SqlDataAdapter();
     da.SelectCommand = comm;
     da.Fill(set,tableName);

     DataRowCollection usersCollection = set.Tables[tableName].Rows;
     return usersCollection;
}

Populating DataGridView from DataRowCollection :

public static void ShowAllUsers(DataGridView grdView,string table, params string[] fields)
{
    DataRowCollection userSet = getAllUsers(table);
    foreach (DataRow user in userSet)
    {
         grdView.Rows.Add(user[fields[0]],
         user[fields[1]],
         user[fields[2]],
         user[fields[3]]);
    }
}

Implementation :

BLL.BLL.ShowAllUsers(grdUsers,"eusers","eid","euname","eupassword","eposition");

Map vs Object in JavaScript

One aspect of the Map that is not given much press here is lookup. According to the spec:

A Map object must be implemented using either hash tables or other mechanisms that, on average, provide access times that are sublinear on the number of elements in the collection. The data structures used in this Map objects specification is only intended to describe the required observable semantics of Map objects. It is not intended to be a viable implementation model.

For collections that have a huge number of items and require item lookups, this is a huge performance boost.

TL;DR - Object lookup is not specified, so it can be on order of the number of elements in the object, i.e., O(n). Map lookup must use a hash table or similar, so Map lookup is the same regardless of Map size, i.e. O(1).

The simplest way to comma-delimit a list?

private String betweenComma(ArrayList<String> strings) {
    String united = "";
    for (String string : strings) {
        united = united + "," + string;
    }
    return united.replaceFirst(",", "");
}

Can't drop table: A foreign key constraint fails

I realize this is stale for a while and an answer had been selected, but how about the alternative to allow the foreign key to be NULL and then choose ON DELETE SET NULL.

Basically, your table should be changed like so:

ALTER TABLE 'bericht' DROP FOREIGN KEY 'your_foreign_key';

ALTER TABLE 'bericht' ADD CONSTRAINT 'your_foreign_key' FOREIGN KEY ('column_foreign_key') REFERENCES 'other_table' ('column_parent_key') ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE SET NULL;

Personally I would recommend using both "ON UPDATE CASCADE" as well as "ON DELETE SET NULL" to avoid unnecessary complications, however your set up may dictate a different approach.

Hope this helps.

System.Threading.Timer in C# it seems to be not working. It runs very fast every 3 second

 var span = TimeSpan.FromMinutes(2);
 var t = Task.Factory.StartNew(async delegate / () =>
   {
        this.SomeAsync();
        await Task.Delay(span, source.Token);
  }, source.Token, TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning, TaskScheduler.Default);

source.Cancel(true/or not);

// or use ThreadPool(whit defaul options thread) like this

           this.PrintConsole(1);

// And somewhere there
source.Cancel();
//or
token.ThrowIfCancellationRequested(); // try/ catch block requred.

ASP MVC href to a controller/view

If using ASP.NET Core, you can adjust the accepted answer to:

<a href="@Url.Action("Index", null, new { area = string.Empty, controller = "User" }, @Context.Request.Scheme)">
     <span>Clients</span>
</a>

replacing @Request.Url.Scheme with @Context.Request.Scheme

How do I interpret precision and scale of a number in a database?

Numeric precision refers to the maximum number of digits that are present in the number.

ie 1234567.89 has a precision of 9

Numeric scale refers to the maximum number of decimal places

ie 123456.789 has a scale of 3

Thus the maximum allowed value for decimal(5,2) is 999.99

Convert integer to hex and hex to integer

To convert Hex strings to INT, I have used this in the past. It can be modified to convert any base to INT in fact (Octal, Binary, whatever)

Declare @ndx int
Set @ndx = Len(@str)
Declare @RunningTotal  BigInt
Set @RunningTotal = 0

While @ndx > 0
Begin
    Declare @Exponent BigInt
    Set @Exponent = Len(@Str) - @ndx

    Set @RunningTotal = @RunningTotal +

    Power(16 * 1.0, @Exponent) *
    Case Substring(@str, @ndx, 1)
        When '0' then 0
        When '1' then 1
        When '2' then 2
        When '3' then 3
        When '4' then 4
        When '5' then 5
        When '6' then 6
        When '7' then 7
        When '8' then 8
        When '9' then 9
        When 'A' then 10
        When 'B' then 11
        When 'C' then 12
        When 'D' then 13
        When 'E' then 14
        When 'F' then 15
    End
    Set @ndx = @ndx - 1
End

Dynamically adding HTML form field using jQuery

You can add any type of HTML with methods like append and appendTo (among others):

jQuery manipulation methods

Example:

$('form#someform').append('<input type="text" name="something" id="something" />');

Bootstrap table without stripe / borders

Don’t add the .table class to your <table> tag. From the Bootstrap docs on tables:

For basic styling—light padding and only horizontal dividers—add the base class .table to any <table>. It may seem super redundant, but given the widespread use of tables for other plugins like calendars and date pickers, we've opted to isolate our custom table styles.

PHP: Calling another class' method

If they are separate classes you can do something like the following:

class A
{
    private $name;

    public function __construct()
    {
        $this->name = 'Some Name';
    }

    public function getName()
    {
        return $this->name;
    }
}

class B
{
    private $a;

    public function __construct(A $a)
    {
        $this->a = $a;
    }

    function getNameOfA()
    {
        return $this->a->getName();
    }
}

$a = new A();
$b = new B($a);

$b->getNameOfA();

What I have done in this example is first create a new instance of the A class. And after that I have created a new instance of the B class to which I pass the instance of A into the constructor. Now B can access all the public members of the A class using $this->a.

Also note that I don't instantiate the A class inside the B class because that would mean I tighly couple the two classes. This makes it hard to:

  1. unit test your B class
  2. swap out the A class for another class

mySQL Error 1040: Too Many Connection

If you are running out of connections like this, chances are excellent that you are not closing the connections that you have open.

Review code that opens connections and ensure the connections are closed as soon as practical. Typically you want to make use of the using keyword around anything that implements IDisposable (including database connections) to ensure that such objects are disposed as soon as they leave the scope where they are needed.

You can check the current number of active connections with this query:

show processlist

How to make ng-repeat filter out duplicate results

Create your own array.

<select name="cmpPro" ng-model="test3.Product" ng-options="q for q in productArray track by q">
    <option value="" >Plans</option>
</select>

 productArray =[];
angular.forEach($scope.leadDetail, function(value,key){
    var index = $scope.productArray.indexOf(value.Product);
    if(index === -1)
    {
        $scope.productArray.push(value.Product);
    }
});

Java decimal formatting using String.format?

Yes you can do it with String.format:

String result = String.format("%.2f", 10.0 / 3.0);
// result:  "3.33"

result = String.format("%.3f", 2.5);
// result:  "2.500"

How to recursively find and list the latest modified files in a directory with subdirectories and times

Try this:

#!/bin/bash
stat --format %y $(ls -t $(find alfa/ -type f) | head -n 1)

It uses find to gather all files from the directory, ls to list them sorted by modification date, head for selecting the first file and finally stat to show the time in a nice format.

At this time it is not safe for files with whitespace or other special characters in their names. Write a commend if it doesn't meet your needs yet.

Check if an object belongs to a class in Java

The usual way would be:

if (a instanceof A)

However, there are cases when you can't do this, such as when A in a generic argument.

Due to Java's type erasure, the following won't compile:

<A> boolean someMethod(Object a) {
    if (a instanceof A)
    ...
}

and the following won't work (and will produce an unchecked cast warning):

<A> void someMethod(Object a) {
    try {
        A casted = (A)a;
    } catch (ClassCastException e) {
         ...
    }
}

You can't cast to A at runtime, because at runtime, A is essentially Object.

The solutions to such cases is to use a Class instead of the generic argument:

void someMethod(Object a, Class<A> aClass) {
    if (aClass.isInstance(a)) {
       A casted = aClass.cast(a);
       ...
    }
}

You can then call the method as:

someMethod(myInstance, MyClass.class);
someMethod(myInstance, OtherClass.class);

What is the python keyword "with" used for?

Explanation from the Preshing on Programming blog:

It’s handy when you have two related operations which you’d like to execute as a pair, with a block of code in between. The classic example is opening a file, manipulating the file, then closing it:

 with open('output.txt', 'w') as f:
     f.write('Hi there!')

The above with statement will automatically close the file after the nested block of code. (Continue reading to see exactly how the close occurs.) The advantage of using a with statement is that it is guaranteed to close the file no matter how the nested block exits. If an exception occurs before the end of the block, it will close the file before the exception is caught by an outer exception handler. If the nested block were to contain a return statement, or a continue or break statement, the with statement would automatically close the file in those cases, too.

How to redirect to action from JavaScript method?

I struggled with this a little because I wanted to use Knockout to bind the button to the click event. Here's my button and the relevant function from inside my view model.

<a class="btn btn-secondary showBusy" data-bind="click: back">Back to Dashboard</a>

Merge up to a specific commit

To keep the branching clean, you could do this:

git checkout newbranch
git branch newbranch2
git reset --hard <commit Id> # the commit at which you want to merge
git checkout master
git merge newbranch
git checkout newbranch2

This way, newbranch will end where it was merged into master, and you continue working on newbranch2.

Could not load file or assembly "System.Net.Http, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

For me, I had set my project to run on the latest version of .Net Framework (a change from .Net Framework 4.6.1 to 4.7.2).

Everything worked, no errors and published without issue, and it was only by chance that I came across the System.Net.Http error message, shown in a small, hard-to-notice, but quite important API request over the website I'm working on.

I rolled back to 4.6.1 and everything is fine again.

Get absolute path to workspace directory in Jenkins Pipeline plugin

"WORKSPACE" environment variable works for the latest version of Jenkins Pipeline. You can use this in your Jenkins file: "${env.WORKSPACE}"

Sample use below:

def files = findFiles glob: '**/reports/*.json'
for (def i=0; i<files.length; i++) {
jsonFilePath = "${files[i].path}"
jsonPath = "${env.WORKSPACE}" + "/" + jsonFilePath
echo jsonPath

hope that helps!!

Bluetooth pairing without user confirmation

BT version 2.0 or less - You should be able to pair/bond using a standard PIN code, entered programmatically e.g. 1234 or 0000. This is not very secure but many BT devices do this.

BT version 2.1 or greater - Mode 4 Secure Simple Pairing "just works" model can be used. It uses elliptical encryption (whatever that is) and is very secure but is open to Man In The Middle attacks. Compared to the old '0000' pin code approach it is light years ahead. This doesn't require any user input.

This is according to the Bluetooth specs but what you can use depends on what verson of the Bluetooth standard your stack supports and what API you have.

How to expand and compute log(a + b)?

In general, one doesn't expand out log(a + b); you just deal with it as is. That said, there are occasionally circumstances where it makes sense to use the following identity:

log(a + b) = log(a * (1 + b/a)) = log a + log(1 + b/a)

(In fact, this identity is often used when implementing log in math libraries).

Html ordered list 1.1, 1.2 (Nested counters and scope) not working

This is a great solution! With a few additional CSS rules you can format it just like an MS Word outline list with a hanging first line indent:

OL {
  counter-reset: item;
}
LI {
  display: block;
}
LI:before {
  content: counters(item, ".") ".";
  counter-increment: item;

  margin-left:-20px;
}

jQuery find and replace string

You could do something like this:

$("span, p").each(function() {
    var text = $(this).text();
    text = text.replace("lollypops", "marshmellows");
    $(this).text(text);
});

It will be better to mark all tags with text that needs to be examined with a suitable class name.

Also, this may have performance issues. jQuery or javascript in general aren't really suitable for this kind of operations. You are better off doing it server side.

How do I update Anaconda?

If you are trying to update your Anaconda version to a new one, you'll notice that running the new installer wouldn't work, as it complains the installation directory is non-empty.

So you should use conda to upgrade as detailed by the official docs:

conda update conda
conda update anaconda

In Windows, if you made a "for all users" installation, it might be necessary to run from an Anaconda prompt with Administrator privileges.

Simply right click on Anaconda Prompt in the start menu

This prevents the error:

ERROR conda.core.link:_execute(502): An error occurred while uninstalling package 'defaults::conda-4.5.4-py36_0'. PermissionError(13, 'Access is denied')

Difference in make_shared and normal shared_ptr in C++

The shared pointer manages both the object itself, and a small object containing the reference count and other housekeeping data. make_shared can allocate a single block of memory to hold both of these; constructing a shared pointer from a pointer to an already-allocated object will need to allocate a second block to store the reference count.

As well as this efficiency, using make_shared means that you don't need to deal with new and raw pointers at all, giving better exception safety - there is no possibility of throwing an exception after allocating the object but before assigning it to the smart pointer.

How do I set the selected item in a comboBox to match my string using C#?

Assuming that your combobox isn't databound you would need to find the object's index in the "items" collection on your form and then set the "selectedindex" property to the appropriate index.

comboBox1.SelectedIndex = comboBox1.Items.IndexOf("test1");

Keep in mind that the IndexOf function may throw an argumentexception if the item isn't found.

Vue equivalent of setTimeout?

after encountering the same issue, I ended up on this thread. For future generation's sake: The current up-most voted answer, attempts to bind "this" to a variable in order to avoid changing the context when invoking the function which is defined in the setTimeout.

An alternate and more recommended approach(using Vue.JS 2.2 & ES6) is to use an arrow function in order to bind the context to the parent (Basically "addToBasket"'s "this" and the "setTimeout"'s "this" would still refer to the same object):

addToBasket: function(){
        item = this.photo;
        this.$http.post('/api/buy/addToBasket', item);
        this.basketAddSuccess = true;
        setTimeout(() => {
            this.basketAddSuccess = false;
        }, 2000);
    }

How do I show the schema of a table in a MySQL database?

SELECT COLUMN_NAME, TABLE_NAME,table_schema
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS;

gcc/g++: "No such file or directory"

Your compiler just tried to compile the file named foo.cc. Upon hitting line number line, the compiler finds:

#include "bar"

or

#include <bar>

The compiler then tries to find that file. For this, it uses a set of directories to look into, but within this set, there is no file bar. For an explanation of the difference between the versions of the include statement look here.

How to tell the compiler where to find it

g++ has an option -I. It lets you add include search paths to the command line. Imagine that your file bar is in a folder named frobnicate, relative to foo.cc (assume you are compiling from the directory where foo.cc is located):

g++ -Ifrobnicate foo.cc

You can add more include-paths; each you give is relative to the current directory. Microsoft's compiler has a correlating option /I that works in the same way, or in Visual Studio, the folders can be set in the Property Pages of the Project, under Configuration Properties->C/C++->General->Additional Include Directories.

Now imagine you have multiple version of bar in different folders, given:

// A/bar
#include<string>
std::string which() { return "A/bar"; }

// B/bar
#include<string>
std::string which() { return "B/bar"; }

// C/bar
#include<string>
std::string which() { return "C/bar"; }

// foo.cc
#include "bar"
#include <iostream>

int main () {
    std::cout << which() << std::endl;
}

The priority with #include "bar" is leftmost:

$ g++ -IA -IB -IC foo.cc
$ ./a.out
A/bar

As you see, when the compiler started looking through A/, B/ and C/, it stopped at the first or leftmost hit.

This is true of both forms, include <> and incude "".

Difference between #include <bar> and #include "bar"

Usually, the #include <xxx> makes it look into system folders first, the #include "xxx" makes it look into the current or custom folders first.

E.g.:

Imagine you have the following files in your project folder:

list
main.cc

with main.cc:

#include "list"
....

For this, your compiler will #include the file list in your project folder, because it currently compiles main.cc and there is that file list in the current folder.

But with main.cc:

#include <list>
....

and then g++ main.cc, your compiler will look into the system folders first, and because <list> is a standard header, it will #include the file named list that comes with your C++ platform as part of the standard library.

This is all a bit simplified, but should give you the basic idea.

Details on <>/""-priorities and -I

According to the gcc-documentation, the priority for include <> is, on a "normal Unix system", as follows:

 /usr/local/include
 libdir/gcc/target/version/include
 /usr/target/include
 /usr/include

For C++ programs, it will also look in /usr/include/c++/version, first. In the above, target is the canonical name of the system GCC was configured to compile code for; [...].

The documentation also states:

You can add to this list with the -Idir command line option. All the directories named by -I are searched, in left-to-right order, before the default directories. The only exception is when dir is already searched by default. In this case, the option is ignored and the search order for system directories remains unchanged.

To continue our #include<list> / #include"list" example (same code):

g++ -I. main.cc

and

#include<list>
int main () { std::list<int> l; }

and indeed, the -I. prioritizes the folder . over the system includes and we get a compiler error.

Generics in C#, using type of a variable as parameter

One way to get around this is to use implicit casting:

bool DoesEntityExist<T>(T entity, Guid guid, ITransaction transaction) where T : IGloballyIdentifiable;

calling it like so:

DoesEntityExist(entity, entityGuid, transaction);

Going a step further, you can turn it into an extension method (it will need to be declared in a static class):

static bool DoesEntityExist<T>(this T entity, Guid guid, ITransaction transaction) where T : IGloballyIdentifiable;

calling as so:

entity.DoesEntityExist(entityGuid, transaction);

Select datatype of the field in postgres

The information schema views and pg_typeof() return incomplete type information. Of these answers, psql gives the most precise type information. (The OP might not need such precise information, but should know the limitations.)

create domain test_domain as varchar(15);

create table test (
  test_id test_domain,
  test_vc varchar(15),
  test_n numeric(15, 3),
  big_n bigint,
  ip_addr inet
);

Using psql and \d public.test correctly shows the use of the data type test_domain, the length of varchar(n) columns, and the precision and scale of numeric(p, s) columns.

sandbox=# \d public.test
             Table "public.test"
 Column  |         Type          | Modifiers
---------+-----------------------+-----------
 test_id | test_domain           |
 test_vc | character varying(15) |
 test_n  | numeric(15,3)         |
 big_n   | bigint                |
 ip_addr | inet                  |

This query against an information_schema view does not show the use of test_domain at all. It also doesn't report the details of varchar(n) and numeric(p, s) columns.

select column_name, data_type
from information_schema.columns
where table_catalog = 'sandbox'
  and table_schema = 'public'
  and table_name = 'test';
 column_name |     data_type
-------------+-------------------
 test_id     | character varying
 test_vc     | character varying
 test_n      | numeric
 big_n       | bigint
 ip_addr     | inet

You might be able to get all that information by joining other information_schema views, or by querying the system tables directly. psql -E might help with that.

The function pg_typeof() correctly shows the use of test_domain, but doesn't report the details of varchar(n) and numeric(p, s) columns.

select pg_typeof(test_id) as test_id,
       pg_typeof(test_vc) as test_vc,
       pg_typeof(test_n) as test_n,
       pg_typeof(big_n) as big_n,
       pg_typeof(ip_addr) as ip_addr
from test;
   test_id   |      test_vc      | test_n  | big_n  | ip_addr
-------------+-------------------+---------+--------+---------
 test_domain | character varying | numeric | bigint | inet

How does "304 Not Modified" work exactly?

When the browser puts something in its cache, it also stores the Last-Modified or ETag header from the server.

The browser then sends a request with the If-Modified-Since or If-None-Match header, telling the server to send a 304 if the content still has that date or ETag.

The server needs some way of calculating a date-modified or ETag for each version of each resource; this typically comes from the filesystem or a separate database column.

what is the difference between ajax and jquery and which one is better?

On StackOverflow, pressing the up-vote button is AJAX whereas typing in your question or answer and seeing it appear in the real-time preview window below it is JavaScript (JQuery).

This means that the difference between AJAX and Javascript is that AJAX allows you to communicate with the server without doing a page refresh (i.e. going to a new page) whereas JavaScript (JQuery) allows you to embed logic and behaviour on your page. Of course, with this logic you create AJAX as well.

Android: how to draw a border to a LinearLayout

Do you really need to do that programmatically?

Just considering the title: You could use a ShapeDrawable as android:background…

For example, let's define res/drawable/my_custom_background.xml as:

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
       android:shape="rectangle">
  <corners
      android:radius="2dp"
      android:topRightRadius="0dp"
      android:bottomRightRadius="0dp"
      android:bottomLeftRadius="0dp" />
  <stroke
      android:width="1dp"
      android:color="@android:color/white" />
</shape>

and define android:background="@drawable/my_custom_background".

I've not tested but it should work.

Update:

I think that's better to leverage the xml shape drawable resource power if that fits your needs. With a "from scratch" project (for android-8), define res/layout/main.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:orientation="vertical"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:background="@drawable/border"
    android:padding="10dip" >
    <TextView
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Hello World, SOnich"
        />
    [... more TextView ...]
    <TextView
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Hello World, SOnich"
        />
</LinearLayout>

and a res/drawable/border.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
       android:shape="rectangle">
   <stroke
        android:width="5dip"
        android:color="@android:color/white" />
</shape>

Reported to work on a gingerbread device. Note that you'll need to relate android:padding of the LinearLayout to the android:width shape/stroke's value. Please, do not use @android:color/white in your final application but rather a project defined color.

You could apply android:background="@drawable/border" android:padding="10dip" to each of the LinearLayout from your provided sample.

As for your other posts related to display some circles as LinearLayout's background, I'm playing with Inset/Scale/Layer drawable resources (see Drawable Resources for further information) to get something working to display perfect circles in the background of a LinearLayout but failed at the moment…

Your problem resides clearly in the use of getBorder.set{Width,Height}(100);. Why do you do that in an onClick method?

I need further information to not miss the point: why do you do that programmatically? Do you need a dynamic behavior? Your input drawables are png or ShapeDrawable is acceptable? etc.

To be continued (maybe tomorrow and as soon as you provide more precisions on what you want to achieve)…

Sum function in VBA

Place the function value into the cell

Application.Sum often does not work well in my experience (or at least the VBA developer environment does not like it for whatever reason).

The function that works best for me is Excel.WorksheetFunction.Sum()

Example:

Dim Report As Worksheet 'Set up your new worksheet variable.
Set Report = Excel.ActiveSheet 'Assign the active sheet to the variable.

Report.Cells(11, 1).Value = Excel.WorksheetFunction.Sum(Report.Range("A1:A10")) 'Add the function result.

Place the function directly into the cell

The other method which you were looking for I think is to place the function directly into the cell. This can be done by inputting the function string into the cell value. Here is an example that provides the same result as above, except the cell value is given the function and not the result of the function:

    Dim Report As Worksheet 'Set up your new worksheet variable.
    Set Report = Excel.ActiveSheet 'Assign the active sheet to the variable.

    Report.Cells(11, 1).Value = "=Sum(A1:A10)" 'Add the function.

Vue.js getting an element within a component

you can access the children of a vuejs component with this.$children. if you want to use the query selector on the current component instance then this.$el.querySelector(...)

just doing a simple console.log(this) will show you all the properties of a vue component instance.

additionally if you know the element you want to access in your component, you can add the v-el:uniquename directive to it and access it via this.$els.uniquename

Array copy values to keys in PHP

Be careful, the solution proposed with $a = array_combine($a, $a); will not work for numeric values.

I for example wanted to have a memory array(128,256,512,1024,2048,4096,8192,16384) to be the keys as well as the values however PHP manual states:

If the input arrays have the same string keys, then the later value for that key will overwrite the previous one. If, however, the arrays contain numeric keys, the later value will not overwrite the original value, but will be appended.

So I solved it like this:

foreach($array as $key => $val) {
    $new_array[$val]=$val;
}

Select top 2 rows in Hive

Here I think it's worth mentioning SORT BY and ORDER BY both clauses and why they different,

SELECT * FROM <table_name> SORT BY <column_name> DESC LIMIT 2

If you are using SORT BY clause it sort data per reducer which means if you have more than one MapReduce task it will result partially ordered data. On the other hand, the ORDER BY clause will result in ordered data for the final Reduce task. To understand more please refer to this link.

SELECT * FROM <table_name> ORDER BY <column_name> DESC LIMIT 2

Note: Finally, Even though the accepted answer contains SORT BY clause, I mostly prefer to use ORDER BY clause for the general use case to avoid any data loss.

SqlBulkCopy - The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type money of the specified target column

Since I don't believe "Please use..." plus some random code that is unrelated to the question is a good answer, but I do believe the spirit was correct, I decided to answer this correctly.

When you are using Sql Bulk Copy, it attempts to align your input data directly with the data on the server. So, it takes the Server Table and performs a SQL statement similar to this:

INSERT INTO [schema].[table] (col1, col2, col3) VALUES

Therefore, if you give it Columns 1, 3, and 2, EVEN THOUGH your names may match (e.g.: col1, col3, col2). It will insert like so:

INSERT INTO [schema].[table] (col1, col2, col3) VALUES
                          ('col1', 'col3', 'col2')

It would be extra work and overhead for the Sql Bulk Insert to have to determine a Column Mapping. So it instead allows you to choose... Either ensure your Code and your SQL Table columns are in the same order, or explicitly state to align by Column Name.

Therefore, if your issue is mis-alignment of the columns, which is probably the majority of the cause of this error, this answer is for you.

TLDR

using System.Data;
//...
myDataTable.Columns.Cast<DataColumn>().ToList().ForEach(x =>
    bulkCopy.ColumnMappings.Add(new SqlBulkCopyColumnMapping(x.ColumnName, x.ColumnName)));

This will take your existing DataTable, which you are attempt to insert into your created BulkCopy object, and it will just explicitly map name to name. Of course if, for some reason, you decided to name your DataTable Columns differently than your SQL Server Columns... that's on you.

How to resolve TypeError: can only concatenate str (not "int") to str

Problem is you are doing the following

str(chr(char + 7429146))

where char is a string. You cannot add a int with a string. this will cause that error

maybe if you want to get the ascii code and add it with a constant number. if so , you can just do ord(char) and add it to a number. but again, chr can take values between 0 and 1114112

Making a PowerShell POST request if a body param starts with '@'

Use Invoke-RestMethod to consume REST-APIs. Save the JSON to a string and use that as the body, ex:

$JSON = @'
{"@type":"login",
 "username":"[email protected]",
 "password":"yyy"
}
'@

$response = Invoke-RestMethod -Uri "http://somesite.com/oneendpoint" -Method Post -Body $JSON -ContentType "application/json"

If you use Powershell 3, I know there have been some issues with Invoke-RestMethod, but you should be able to use Invoke-WebRequest as a replacement:

$response = Invoke-WebRequest -Uri "http://somesite.com/oneendpoint" -Method Post -Body $JSON -ContentType "application/json"

If you don't want to write your own JSON every time, you can use a hashtable and use PowerShell to convert it to JSON before posting it. Ex.

$JSON = @{
    "@type" = "login"
    "username" = "[email protected]"
    "password" = "yyy"
} | ConvertTo-Json

How to set environment variables from within package.json?

You should not set ENV variables in package.json. actionhero uses NODE_ENV to allow you to change configuration options which are loaded from the files in ./config. Check out the redis config file, and see how NODE_ENV is uses to change database options in NODE_ENV=test

If you want to use other ENV variables to set things (perhaps the HTTP port), you still don't need to change anything in package.json. For example, if you set PORT=1234 in ENV and want to use that as the HTTP port in NODE_ENV=production, just reference that in the relevant config file, IE:

# in config/servers/web.js
exports.production = {
  servers: {
    web: function(api){
      return {
       port: process.env.PORT
      }
    }
  }
}

Angular.js ng-repeat filter by property having one of multiple values (OR of values)

Best way to do this is to use a function:

<div ng-repeat="product in products | filter: myFilter">

$scope.myFilter = function (item) {
    return item === 'red' || item === 'blue';
};

Alternatively, you can use ngHide or ngShow to dynamically show and hide elements based on a certain criteria.

What is sharding and why is it important?

Sharding does more than just horizontal partitioning. According to the wikipedia article,

Horizontal partitioning splits one or more tables by row, usually within a single instance of a schema and a database server. It may offer an advantage by reducing index size (and thus search effort) provided that there is some obvious, robust, implicit way to identify in which partition a particular row will be found, without first needing to search the index, e.g., the classic example of the 'CustomersEast' and 'CustomersWest' tables, where their zip code already indicates where they will be found.

Sharding goes beyond this: it partitions the problematic table(s) in the same way, but it does this across potentially multiple instances of the schema. The obvious advantage would be that search load for the large partitioned table can now be split across multiple servers (logical or physical), not just multiple indexes on the same logical server.

Also,

Splitting shards across multiple isolated instances requires more than simple horizontal partitioning. The hoped-for gains in efficiency would be lost, if querying the database required both instances to be queried, just to retrieve a simple dimension table. Beyond partitioning, sharding thus splits large partitionable tables across the servers, while smaller tables are replicated as complete units

String "true" and "false" to boolean

You could consider only appending internal to your url if it is true, then if the checkbox isn't checked and you don't append it params[:internal] would be nil, which evaluates to false in Ruby.

I'm not that familiar with the specific jQuery you're using, but is there a cleaner way to call what you want than manually building a URL string? Have you had a look at $get and $ajax?

How to run a stored procedure in oracle sql developer?

Consider you've created a procedure like below.

CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE GET_FULL_NAME like
(
  FIRST_NAME IN VARCHAR2,
  LAST_NAME IN VARCHAR2,
  FULL_NAME OUT VARCHAR2
) IS
BEGIN
  FULL_NAME:= FIRST_NAME || ' ' || LAST_NAME;
END GET_FULL_NAME;

In Oracle SQL Developer, you can run this procedure in two ways.

1. Using SQL Worksheet

Create a SQL Worksheet and write PL/SQL anonymous block like this and hit f5

DECLARE
  FULL_NAME Varchar2(50);
BEGIN
  GET_FULL_NAME('Foo', 'Bar', FULL_NAME);
  Dbms_Output.Put_Line('Full name is: ' || FULL_NAME);
END;

2. Using GUI Controls

  • Expand Procedures

  • Right click on the procudure you've created and Click Run

  • In the pop-up window, Fill the parameters and Click OK.

Cheers!

INNER JOIN vs INNER JOIN (SELECT . FROM)

Seems to be identical just in case that SQL server will not try to read data which is not required for the query, the optimizer is clever enough

It can have sense when join on complex query (i.e which have joings, groupings etc itself) then, yes, it is better to specify required fields.

But there is one more point. If the query is simple there is no difference but EVERY extra action even which is supposed to improve performance makes optimizer works harder and optimizer can fail to get the best plan in time and will run not optimal query. So extras select can be a such action which can even decrease performance

Return HTTP status code 201 in flask

Ripping off Luc's comment here, but to return a blank response, like a 201 the simplest option is to use the following return in your route.

return "", 201

So for example:

    def database():
        update_database(request)
        return "", 201

How to specify preference of library path?

Add the path to where your new library is to LD_LIBRARY_PATH (it has slightly different name on Mac ...)

Your solution should work with using the -L/my/dir -lfoo options, at runtime use LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the location of your library.

Careful with using LD_LIBRARY_PATH - in short (from link):

..implications..:
Security: Remember that the directories specified in LD_LIBRARY_PATH get searched before(!) the standard locations? In that way, a nasty person could get your application to load a version of a shared library that contains malicious code! That’s one reason why setuid/setgid executables do neglect that variable!
Performance: The link loader has to search all the directories specified, until it finds the directory where the shared library resides – for ALL shared libraries the application is linked against! This means a lot of system calls to open(), that will fail with “ENOENT (No such file or directory)”! If the path contains many directories, the number of failed calls will increase linearly, and you can tell that from the start-up time of the application. If some (or all) of the directories are in an NFS environment, the start-up time of your applications can really get long – and it can slow down the whole system!
Inconsistency: This is the most common problem. LD_LIBRARY_PATH forces an application to load a shared library it wasn’t linked against, and that is quite likely not compatible with the original version. This can either be very obvious, i.e. the application crashes, or it can lead to wrong results, if the picked up library not quite does what the original version would have done. Especially the latter is sometimes hard to debug.

OR

Use the rpath option via gcc to linker - runtime library search path, will be used instead of looking in standard dir (gcc option):

-Wl,-rpath,$(DEFAULT_LIB_INSTALL_PATH)

This is good for a temporary solution. Linker first searches the LD_LIBRARY_PATH for libraries before looking into standard directories.

If you don't want to permanently update LD_LIBRARY_PATH you can do it on the fly on command line:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/some/custom/dir ./fooo

You can check what libraries linker knows about using (example):

/sbin/ldconfig -p | grep libpthread
        libpthread.so.0 (libc6, OS ABI: Linux 2.6.4) => /lib/libpthread.so.0

And you can check which library your application is using:

ldd foo
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7f9e000)
        libxml2.so.2 => /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2 (0xb7e6e000)
        librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 (0xb7e65000)

In oracle, how do I change my session to display UTF8?

Therefore, before starting '$ sqlplus' on OS, run the followings:

  • On Windows

    set NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8

  • On Unix (Solaris and Linux, centos etc)

    export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8

It would also be advisable to set env variable in your '.bash_profile' [on start up script]

This is the place where other ORACLE env variables (ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME) are usually set.

just fyi - SQL Developer is good at displaying/handling non-English UTF8 characters.

Easy way to get a test file into JUnit

If you want to load a test resource file as a string with just few lines of code and without any extra dependencies, this does the trick:

public String loadResourceAsString(String fileName) throws IOException {
    Scanner scanner = new Scanner(getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream(fileName));
    String contents = scanner.useDelimiter("\\A").next();
    scanner.close();
    return contents;
}

"\\A" matches the start of input and there's only ever one. So this parses the entire file contents and returns it as a string. Best of all, it doesn't require any 3rd party libraries (like IOUTils).

How do I change the figure size with subplots?

If you already have the figure object use:

f.set_figheight(15)
f.set_figwidth(15)

But if you use the .subplots() command (as in the examples you're showing) to create a new figure you can also use:

f, axs = plt.subplots(2,2,figsize=(15,15))

How to select the Date Picker In Selenium WebDriver

Do not inject javascript. That is a bad practice.

I would model the DatePicker as an element like textbox / select as shown below.

For the detailed answer - check here- http://www.testautomationguru.com/selenium-webdriver-automating-custom-controls-datepicker/

public class DatePicker {

    private static final String dateFormat = "dd MMM yyyy";

    @FindBy(css = "a.ui-datepicker-prev")
    private WebElement prev;

    @FindBy(css = "a.ui-datepicker-next")
    private WebElement next;

    @FindBy(css = "div.ui-datepicker-title")
    private WebElement curDate;

    @FindBy(css = "a.ui-state-default")
    private List < WebElement > dates;

    public void setDate(String date) {

        long diff = this.getDateDifferenceInMonths(date);
        int day = this.getDay(date);

        WebElement arrow = diff >= 0 ? next : prev;
        diff = Math.abs(diff);

        //click the arrows
        for (int i = 0; i < diff; i++)
            arrow.click();

        //select the date
        dates.stream()
            .filter(ele - > Integer.parseInt(ele.getText()) == day)
            .findFirst()
            .ifPresent(ele - > ele.click());

    }

    private int getDay(String date) {
        DateTimeFormatter dtf = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(dateFormat);
        LocalDate dpToDate = LocalDate.parse(date, dtf);
        return dpToDate.getDayOfMonth();
    }

    private long getDateDifferenceInMonths(String date) {
        DateTimeFormatter dtf = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(dateFormat);
        LocalDate dpCurDate = LocalDate.parse("01 " + this.getCurrentMonthFromDatePicker(), dtf);
        LocalDate dpToDate = LocalDate.parse(date, dtf);
        return YearMonth.from(dpCurDate).until(dpToDate, ChronoUnit.MONTHS);
    }

    private String getCurrentMonthFromDatePicker() {
        return this.curDate.getText();
    }

}

Excel formula to get ranking position

You could also use the RANK function

=RANK(C2,$C$2:$C$7,0)

It would return data like your example:

  | A       | B        | C
1 | name    | position | points
2 | person1 | 1        | 10
3 | person2 | 2        | 9
4 | person3 | 2        | 9
5 | person4 | 2        | 9
6 | person5 | 5        | 8
7 | person6 | 6        | 7

The 'Points' column needs to be sorted into descending order.

Using Postman to access OAuth 2.0 Google APIs

This is an old question, but it has no chosen answer, and I just solved this problem myself. Here's my solution:

  1. Make sure you are set up to work with your Google API in the first place. See Google's list of prerequisites. I was working with Google My Business, so I also went through it's Get Started process.

  2. In the OAuth 2.0 playground, Step 1 requires you to select which API you want to authenticate. Select or input as applicable for your case (in my case for Google My Business, I had to input https://www.googleapis.com/auth/plus.business.manage into the "Input your own scopes" input field). Note: this is the same as what's described in step 6 of the "Make a simple HTTP request" section of the Get Started guide.

  3. Assuming successful authentication, you should get an "Access token" returned in the "Step 1's result" step in the OAuth playground. Copy this token to your clipboard.

  4. Open Postman and open whichever collection you want as necessary.

  5. In Postman, make sure "GET" is selected as the request type, and click on the "Authorization" tab below the request type drop-down.

  6. In the Authorization "TYPE" dropdown menu, select "Bearer Token"

  7. Paste your previously copied "Access Token" which you copied from the OAuth playground into the "Token" field which displays in Postman.

  8. Almost there! To test if things work, put https://mybusiness.googleapis.com/v4/accounts/ into the main URL input bar in Postman and click the send button. You should get a JSON list of accounts back in the response that looks something like the following:

    {
        "accounts": [
            {
                "name": "accounts/REDACTED",
                "accountName": "REDACTED",
                "type": "PERSONAL",
                "state": {
                    "status": "UNVERIFIED"
                }
            },
            {
                "name": "accounts/REDACTED",
                "accountName": "REDACTED",
                "type": "LOCATION_GROUP",
                "role": "OWNER",
                "state": {
                    "status": "UNVERIFIED"
                },
                "permissionLevel": "OWNER_LEVEL"
            }
        ]
    }

Sending commands and strings to Terminal.app with Applescript

Here's another way, but with the advantage that it launches Terminal, brings it to the front, and creates only one window.

I like this when I want to be neatly presented with the results of my script.

tell application "Terminal"
    activate
    set shell to do script "echo 1" in window 1
    do script "echo 2" in shell
    do script "echo 3" in shell
end tell

Submit two forms with one button

if you want to submit two forms with one button you need to do this:

1- use setTimeout()

2- allow show pop up

<script>
function myFunction() {
setTimeout(function(){ document.getElementById("form1").submit();}, 3000);
setTimeout(function(){ document.getElementById("form2").submit();}, 6000);
}
</script>
<form  target="_blank" id="form1">
<input type="text">
<input type="submit">
</form>
<form target="_blank" id="form2">
<input type="text">
<input type="submit">
</form>

javascript doesn't submit two forms at the same time. we submit two forms with one button not at the same time but after secounds.

edit: when we use this code, browser doesn't allow pop up.
if you use this code for your software like me just set browser for show pop up but if you use it in designing site, browser is a barrier and code doesn't run.

How to do case insensitive string comparison?

There are two ways for case insensitive comparison:

  1. Convert strings to upper case and then compare them using the strict operator (===). How strict operator treats operands read stuff at: http://www.thesstech.com/javascript/relational-logical-operators
  2. Pattern matching using string methods:

Use the "search" string method for case insensitive search. Read about search and other string methods at: http://www.thesstech.com/pattern-matching-using-string-methods

Excel 2013 horizontal secondary axis

You should follow the guidelines on Add a secondary horizontal axis:

Add a secondary horizontal axis

To complete this procedure, you must have a chart that displays a secondary vertical axis. To add a secondary vertical axis, see Add a secondary vertical axis.

  1. Click a chart that displays a secondary vertical axis. This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.

  2. On the Layout tab, in the Axes group, click Axes.

    enter image description here

  3. Click Secondary Horizontal Axis, and then click the display option that you want.

enter image description here

Add a secondary vertical axis

You can plot data on a secondary vertical axis one data series at a time. To plot more than one data series on the secondary vertical axis, repeat this procedure for each data series that you want to display on the secondary vertical axis.

  1. In a chart, click the data series that you want to plot on a secondary vertical axis, or do the following to select the data series from a list of chart elements:

    • Click the chart.

      This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.

    • On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click the arrow in the Chart Elements box, and then click the data series that you want to plot along a secondary vertical axis.

      enter image description here

  2. On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click Format Selection. The Format Data Series dialog box is displayed.

    Note: If a different dialog box is displayed, repeat step 1 and make sure that you select a data series in the chart.

  3. On the Series Options tab, under Plot Series On, click Secondary Axis and then click Close.

    A secondary vertical axis is displayed in the chart.

  4. To change the display of the secondary vertical axis, do the following:

    • On the Layout tab, in the Axes group, click Axes.

    • Click Secondary Vertical Axis, and then click the display option that you want.

  5. To change the axis options of the secondary vertical axis, do the following:

    • Right-click the secondary vertical axis, and then click Format Axis.

    • Under Axis Options, select the options that you want to use.

How to call URL action in MVC with javascript function?

Another way to ensure you get the correct url regardless of server settings is to put the url into a hidden field on your page and reference it for the path:

 <input type="hidden" id="GetIndexDataPath" value="@Url.Action("Index","Home")" />

Then you just get the value in your ajax call:

var path = $("#GetIndexDataPath").val();
$.ajax({
        type: "GET",
        url: path,
        data: { id = e.value},
        dataType: "html",
        success : function (data) {
            $('div#theNewView').html(data);
        }
    });
}

I have been using this for years to cope with server weirdness, as it always builds the correct url. It also makes keeping track of changing controller method calls a breeze if you put all the hidden fields together in one part of the html or make a separate razor partial to hold them.

I fixed it by selecting one of these spaces and use find and replace to replace all matches with regular spaces.

Find an element by class name, from a known parent element

You were close. You can do:

var element = $("#parentDiv").find(".myClassNameOfInterest");

Alternatively, you can do:

var element = $(".myClassNameOfInterest", "#parentDiv");

...which sets the context of the jQuery object to the #parentDiv.

EDIT:

Additionally, it may be faster in some browsers if you do div.myClassNameOfInterest instead of just .myClassNameOfInterest.

How to get source code of a Windows executable?

I would (and have) used IDA Pro to decompile executables. It creates semi-complete code, you can decompile to assembly or C.

If you have a copy of the debug symbols around, load those into IDA before decompiling and it will be able to name many of the functions, parameters, etc.

How can I render repeating React elements?

You can put expressions inside braces. Notice in the compiled JavaScript why a for loop would never be possible inside JSX syntax; JSX amounts to function calls and sugared function arguments. Only expressions are allowed.

(Also: Remember to add key attributes to components rendered inside loops.)

JSX + ES2015:

render() {
  return (
    <table className="MyClassName">
      <thead>
        <tr>
          {this.props.titles.map(title =>
            <th key={title}>{title}</th>
          )}
        </tr>
      </thead>
      <tbody>
        {this.props.rows.map((row, i) =>
          <tr key={i}>
            {row.map((col, j) =>
              <td key={j}>{col}</td>
            )}
          </tr>
        )}
      </tbody>
    </table>
  );
}

JavaScript:

render: function() {
  return (
    React.DOM.table({className: "MyClassName"},
      React.DOM.thead(null,
        React.DOM.tr(null,
          this.props.titles.map(function(title) {
            return React.DOM.th({key: title}, title);
          })
        )
      ),
      React.DOM.tbody(null,
        this.props.rows.map(function(row, i) {
          return (
            React.DOM.tr({key: i},
              row.map(function(col, j) {
                return React.DOM.td({key: j}, col);
              })
            )
          );
        })
      )
    )
  );
}

Comment out HTML and PHP together

Instead of using HTML comments (which have no effect on PHP code -- which will still be executed), you should use PHP comments:

<?php /*
<tr>
      <td><?php echo $entry_keyword; ?></td>
      <td><input type="text" name="keyword" value="<?php echo $keyword; ?>" /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><?php echo $entry_sort_order; ?></td>
      <td><input name="sort_order" value="<?php echo $sort_order; ?>" size="1" /></td>
    </tr>
*/ ?>

With that, the PHP code inside the HTML will not be executed; and nothing (not the HTML, not the PHP, not the result of its non-execution) will be displayed.

Just one note: you cannot nest C-style comments... which means the comment will end at the first */ encountered.

What is a NullPointerException, and how do I fix it?

In Java all the variables you declare are actually "references" to the objects (or primitives) and not the objects themselves.

When you attempt to execute one object method, the reference asks the living object to execute that method. But if the reference is referencing NULL (nothing, zero, void, nada) then there is no way the method gets executed. Then the runtime let you know this by throwing a NullPointerException.

Your reference is "pointing" to null, thus "Null -> Pointer".

The object lives in the VM memory space and the only way to access it is using this references. Take this example:

public class Some {
    private int id;
    public int getId(){
        return this.id;
    }
    public setId( int newId ) {
        this.id = newId;
    }
}

And on another place in your code:

Some reference = new Some(); // Point to a new object of type Some()
Some otherReference = null; // Initiallly this points to NULL

reference.setId( 1 ); // Execute setId method, now private var id is 1

System.out.println( reference.getId() ); // Prints 1 to the console

otherReference = reference // Now they both point to the only object.

reference = null; // "reference" now point to null.

// But "otherReference" still point to the "real" object so this print 1 too...
System.out.println( otherReference.getId() );

// Guess what will happen
System.out.println( reference.getId() ); // :S Throws NullPointerException because "reference" is pointing to NULL remember...

This an important thing to know - when there are no more references to an object (in the example above when reference and otherReference both point to null) then the object is "unreachable". There is no way we can work with it, so this object is ready to be garbage collected, and at some point, the VM will free the memory used by this object and will allocate another.

Change / Add syntax highlighting for a language in Sublime 2/3

Syntax highlighting is controlled by the theme you use, accessible through Preferences -> Color Scheme. Themes highlight different keywords, functions, variables, etc. through the use of scopes, which are defined by a series of regular expressions contained in a .tmLanguage file in a language's directory/package. For example, the JavaScript.tmLanguage file assigns the scopes source.js and variable.language.js to the this keyword. Since Sublime Text 3 is using the .sublime-package zip file format to store all the default settings it's not very straightforward to edit the individual files.

Unfortunately, not all themes contain all scopes, so you'll need to play around with different ones to find one that looks good, and gives you the highlighting you're looking for. There are a number of themes that are included with Sublime Text, and many more are available through Package Control, which I highly recommend installing if you haven't already. Make sure you follow the ST3 directions.

As it so happens, I've developed the Neon Color Scheme, available through Package Control, that you might want to take a look at. My main goal, besides trying to make a broad range of languages look as good as possible, was to identify as many different scopes as I could - many more than are included in the standard themes. While the JavaScript language definition isn't as thorough as Python's, for example, Neon still has a lot more diversity than some of the defaults like Monokai or Solarized.

jQuery highlighted with Neon Theme

I should note that I used @int3h's Better JavaScript language definition for this image instead of the one that ships with Sublime. It can be installed via Package Control.

Of late I've discovered another JavaScript replacement language definition - JavaScriptNext - ES6 Syntax. It has more scopes than the base JavaScript or even Better JavaScript. It looks like this on the same code:

JavaScriptNext

Also, since I originally wrote this answer, @skuroda has released PackageResourceViewer via Package Control. It allows you to seamlessly view, edit and/or extract parts of or entire .sublime-package packages. So, if you choose, you can directly edit the color schemes included with Sublime.

ANOTHER UPDATE

With the release of nearly all of the default packages on Github, changes have been coming fast and furiously. The old JS syntax has been completely rewritten to include the best parts of JavaScript Next ES6 Syntax, and now is as fully ES6-compatible as can be. A ton of other changes have been made to cover corner and edge cases, improve consistency, and just overall make it better. The new syntax has been included in the (at this time) latest dev build 3111.

If you'd like to use any of the new syntaxes with the current beta build 3103, simply clone the Github repo someplace and link the JavaScript (or whatever language(s) you want) into your Packages directory - find it on your system by selecting Preferences -> Browse Packages.... Then, simply do a git pull in the original repo directory from time to time to refresh any changes, and you can enjoy the latest and greatest! I should note that the repo uses the new .sublime-syntax format instead of the old .tmLanguage one, so they will not work with ST3 builds prior to 3084, or with ST2 (in both cases, you should have upgraded to the latest beta or dev build anyway).

I'm currently tweaking my Neon Color Scheme to handle all of the new scopes in the new JS syntax, but most should be covered already.

Plotting dates on the x-axis with Python's matplotlib

I have too low reputation to add comment to @bernie response, with response to @user1506145. I have run in to same issue.

1

The answer to it is a interval parameter which fixes things up

2

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.dates as mdates
import numpy as np
import datetime as dt

np.random.seed(1)

N = 100
y = np.random.rand(N)

now = dt.datetime.now()
then = now + dt.timedelta(days=100)
days = mdates.drange(now,then,dt.timedelta(days=1))

plt.gca().xaxis.set_major_formatter(mdates.DateFormatter('%Y-%m-%d'))
plt.gca().xaxis.set_major_locator(mdates.DayLocator(interval=5))
plt.plot(days,y)
plt.gcf().autofmt_xdate()
plt.show()

Read Session Id using Javascript

you can probably ping the server via ajax inside javascript. The php file might look something like:

<?php
session_start();
$id = session_id();
echo $id;
?>

This will return you the current session id. Was this what you were looking for.

Java Convert GMT/UTC to Local time doesn't work as expected

I also recommend using Joda as mentioned before.

Solving your problem using standard Java Date objects only can be done as follows:

    // **** YOUR CODE **** BEGIN ****
    long ts = System.currentTimeMillis();
    Date localTime = new Date(ts);
    String format = "yyyy/MM/dd HH:mm:ss";
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat(format);

    // Convert Local Time to UTC (Works Fine)
    sdf.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));
    Date gmtTime = new Date(sdf.format(localTime));
    System.out.println("Local:" + localTime.toString() + "," + localTime.getTime() + " --> UTC time:"
            + gmtTime.toString() + "," + gmtTime.getTime());

    // **** YOUR CODE **** END ****

    // Convert UTC to Local Time
    Date fromGmt = new Date(gmtTime.getTime() + TimeZone.getDefault().getOffset(localTime.getTime()));
    System.out.println("UTC time:" + gmtTime.toString() + "," + gmtTime.getTime() + " --> Local:"
            + fromGmt.toString() + "-" + fromGmt.getTime());

Output:

Local:Tue Oct 15 12:19:40 CEST 2013,1381832380522 --> UTC time:Tue Oct 15 10:19:40 CEST 2013,1381825180000
UTC time:Tue Oct 15 10:19:40 CEST 2013,1381825180000 --> Local:Tue Oct 15 12:19:40 CEST 2013-1381832380000

        inflater.inflate(R.menu.menu, menu);
        super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu, inflater);

PHP ternary operator vs null coalescing operator

The other answers goes deep and give great explanations. For those who look for quick answer,

$a ?: 'fallback' is $a ? $a : 'fallback'

while

$a ?? 'fallback' is $a = isset($a) ? $a : 'fallback'

The main difference would be when the left operator is either:

  • A falsy value that is NOT null (0, '', false, [], ...)
  • An undefined variable

AWS S3 - How to fix 'The request signature we calculated does not match the signature' error?

Got this error while uploading document to CloudSearch through Java SDK. The issue was because of a special character in the document to be uploaded. The error "The request signature we calculated does not match the signature you provided. Check your AWS Secret Access Key and signing method." is very misleading.

how to permit an array with strong parameters

This https://github.com/rails/strong_parameters seems like the relevant section of the docs:

The permitted scalar types are String, Symbol, NilClass, Numeric, TrueClass, FalseClass, Date, Time, DateTime, StringIO, IO, ActionDispatch::Http::UploadedFile and Rack::Test::UploadedFile.

To declare that the value in params must be an array of permitted scalar values map the key to an empty array:

params.permit(:id => [])

In my app, the category_ids are passed to the create action in an array

"category_ids"=>["", "2"],

Therefore, when declaring strong parameters, I explicitly set category_ids to be an array

params.require(:question).permit(:question_details, :question_content, :user_id, :accepted_answer_id, :province_id, :city, :category_ids => [])

Works perfectly now!

(IMPORTANT: As @Lenart notes in the comments, the array declarations must be at the end of the attributes list, otherwise you'll get a syntax error.)

JRE installation directory in Windows

Not as a command, but this information is in the registry:

  • Open the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment
  • Read the CurrentVersion REG_SZ
  • Open the subkey under Java Runtime Environment named with the CurrentVersion value
  • Read the JavaHome REG_SZ to get the path

For example on my workstation i have

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment
  CurrentVersion = "1.6"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.5
  JavaHome = "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_20"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.6
  JavaHome = "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6"

So my current JRE is in C:\Program Files\Java\jre6

Query to get the names of all tables in SQL Server 2008 Database

Please use the following query to list the tables in your DB.

select name from sys.Tables

In Addition, you can add a where condition, to skip system generated tables and lists only user created table by adding type ='U'

Ex : select name from sys.Tables where type ='U'

Finding Variable Type in JavaScript

Use typeof:

> typeof "foo"
"string"
> typeof true
"boolean"
> typeof 42
"number"

So you can do:

if(typeof bar === 'number') {
   //whatever
}

Be careful though if you define these primitives with their object wrappers (which you should never do, use literals where ever possible):

> typeof new Boolean(false)
"object"
> typeof new String("foo")
"object"
> typeof new Number(42)
"object"

The type of an array is still object. Here you really need the instanceof operator.

Update:

Another interesting way is to examine the output of Object.prototype.toString:

> Object.prototype.toString.call([1,2,3])
"[object Array]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call("foo bar")
"[object String]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call(45)
"[object Number]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call(false)
"[object Boolean]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call(new String("foo bar"))
"[object String]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call(null)
"[object Null]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call(/123/)
"[object RegExp]"
> Object.prototype.toString.call(undefined)
"[object Undefined]"

With that you would not have to distinguish between primitive values and objects.

Running an executable in Mac Terminal

Unix will only run commands if they are available on the system path, as you can view by the $PATH variable

echo $PATH

Executables located in directories that are not on the path cannot be run unless you specify their full location. So in your case, assuming the executable is in the current directory you are working with, then you can execute it as such

./my-exec

Where my-exec is the name of your program.

How to call base.base.method()?

In cases where you do not have access to the derived class source, but need all the source of the derived class besides the current method, then I would recommended you should also do a derived class and call the implementation of the derived class.

Here is an example:

//No access to the source of the following classes
public class Base
{
     public virtual void method1(){ Console.WriteLine("In Base");}
}
public class Derived : Base
{
     public override void method1(){ Console.WriteLine("In Derived");}
     public void method2(){ Console.WriteLine("Some important method in Derived");}
}

//Here should go your classes
//First do your own derived class
public class MyDerived : Base
{
}

//Then derive from the derived class
//and call the bass class implementation via your derived class
public class specialDerived : Derived
{
     public override void method1()
     {
          MyDerived md = new MyDerived();
          //This is actually the base.base class implementation
          MyDerived.method1();
     }
}

What does the 'Z' mean in Unix timestamp '120314170138Z'?

Yes. 'Z' stands for Zulu time, which is also GMT and UTC.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time:

The UTC time zone is sometimes denoted by the letter Z—a reference to the equivalent nautical time zone (GMT), which has been denoted by a Z since about 1950. The letter also refers to the "zone description" of zero hours, which has been used since 1920 (see time zone history). Since the NATO phonetic alphabet and amateur radio word for Z is "Zulu", UTC is sometimes known as Zulu time.

Technically, because the definition of nautical time zones is based on longitudinal position, the Z time is not exactly identical to the actual GMT time 'zone'. However, since it is primarily used as a reference time, it doesn't matter what area of Earth it applies to as long as everyone uses the same reference.

From wikipedia again, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautical_time:

Around 1950, a letter suffix was added to the zone description, assigning Z to the zero zone, and A–M (except J) to the east and N–Y to the west (J may be assigned to local time in non-nautical applications; zones M and Y have the same clock time but differ by 24 hours: a full day). These were to be vocalized using a phonetic alphabet which pronounces the letter Z as Zulu, leading sometimes to the use of the term "Zulu Time". The Greenwich time zone runs from 7.5°W to 7.5°E longitude, while zone A runs from 7.5°E to 22.5°E longitude, etc.

How to change date format using jQuery?

You can use date.js to achieve this:

var date = new Date('2014-01-06');
var newDate = date.toString('dd-MM-yy');

Alternatively, you can do it natively like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var dateAr = '2014-01-06'.split('-');_x000D_
var newDate = dateAr[1] + '-' + dateAr[2] + '-' + dateAr[0].slice(-2);_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(newDate);

Newtonsoft JSON Deserialize

You can implement a class that holds the fields you have in your JSON

class MyData
{
    public string t;
    public bool a;
    public object[] data;
    public string[][] type;
}

and then use the generic version of DeserializeObject:

MyData tmp = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<MyData>(json);
foreach (string typeStr in tmp.type[0])
{
    // Do something with typeStr
}

When can I use a forward declaration?

As well as pointers and references to incomplete types, you can also declare function prototypes that specify parameters and/or return values that are incomplete types. However, you cannot define a function having a parameter or return type that is incomplete, unless it is a pointer or reference.

Examples:

struct X;              // Forward declaration of X

void f1(X* px) {} // Legal: can always use a pointer
void f2(X&  x) {}      // Legal: can always use a reference
X f3(int); // Legal: return value in function prototype
void f4(X); // Legal: parameter in function prototype
void f5(X) {} // ILLEGAL: *definitions* require complete types

Make 2 functions run at the same time

This can be done elegantly with Ray, a system that allows you to easily parallelize and distribute your Python code.

To parallelize your example, you'd need to define your functions with the @ray.remote decorator, and then invoke them with .remote.

import ray

ray.init()

# Define functions you want to execute in parallel using
# the ray.remote decorator.
@ray.remote
def func1():
    print("Working")

@ray.remote
def func2():
    print("Working")

# Execute func1 and func2 in parallel.
ray.get([func1.remote(), func2.remote()])

If func1() and func2() return results, you need to rewrite the above code a bit, by replacing ray.get([func1.remote(), func2.remote()]) with:

ret_id1 = func1.remote()
ret_id2 = func1.remote()
ret1, ret2 = ray.get([ret_id1, ret_id2])

There are a number of advantages of using Ray over the multiprocessing module or using multithreading. In particular, the same code will run on a single machine as well as on a cluster of machines.

For more advantages of Ray see this related post.

Regex for 1 or 2 digits, optional non-alphanumeric, 2 known alphas

^[0-9][0-9]?[^A-Za-z0-9]?po$

You can test it here: http://www.regextester.com/

HTTP Get with 204 No Content: Is that normal

The POST/GET with 204 seems fine in the first sight and will also work.

Documentation says, 2xx -- This class of status codes indicates the action requested by the client was received, understood, accepted, and processed successfully. whereas 4xx -- The 4xx class of status code is intended for situations in which the client seems to have erred.

Since, the request was successfully received, understood and processed on server. The result was that the resource was not found. So, in this case this was not an error on the client side or the client has not erred.

Hence this should be a series 2xx code and not 4xx. Sending 204 (No Content) in this case will be better than a 404 or 410 response.

val() doesn't trigger change() in jQuery

You need to chain the method like this:

Is 'bool' a basic datatype in C++?

Allthough it's now a native type, it's still defined behind the scenes as an integer (int I think) where the literal false is 0 and true is 1. But I think all logic still consider anything but 0 as true, so strictly speaking the true literal is probably a keyword for the compiler to test if something is not false.

if(someval == true){

probably translates to:

if(someval !== false){ // e.g. someval !== 0

by the compiler

CSS: How to change colour of active navigation page menu

I think you are getting confused about what the a:active CSS selector does. This will only change the colour of your link when you click it (and only for the duration of the click i.e. how long your mouse button stays down). What you need to do is introduce a new class e.g. .selected into your CSS and when you select a link, update the selected menu item with new class e.g.

<div class="menuBar">
    <ul>
        <li class="selected"><a href="index.php">HOME</a></li>
        <li><a href="two.php">PORTFOLIO</a></li>
        ....
    </ul>
</div>

// specific CSS for your menu
div.menuBar li.selected a { color: #FF0000; }
// more general CSS
li.selected a { color: #FF0000; }

You will need to update your template page to take in a selectedPage parameter.

ReactJS - .JS vs .JSX

In most of the cases it’s only a need for the transpiler/bundler, which might not be configured to work with JSX files, but with JS! So you are forced to use JS files instead of JSX.

And since react is just a library for javascript, it makes no difference for you to choose between JSX or JS. They’re completely interchangeable!

In some cases users/developers might also choose JSX over JS, because of code highlighting, but the most of the newer editors are also viewing the react syntax correctly in JS files.

How to copy Outlook mail message into excel using VBA or Macros

Since you have not mentioned what needs to be copied, I have left that section empty in the code below.

Also you don't need to move the email to the folder first and then run the macro in that folder. You can run the macro on the incoming mail and then move it to the folder at the same time.

This will get you started. I have commented the code so that you will not face any problem understanding it.

First paste the below mentioned code in the outlook module.

Then

  1. Click on Tools~~>Rules and Alerts
  2. Click on "New Rule"
  3. Click on "start from a blank rule"
  4. Select "Check messages When they arrive"
  5. Under conditions, click on "with specific words in the subject"
  6. Click on "specific words" under rules description.
  7. Type the word that you want to check in the dialog box that pops up and click on "add".
  8. Click "Ok" and click next
  9. Select "move it to specified folder" and also select "run a script" in the same box
  10. In the box below, specify the specific folder and also the script (the macro that you have in module) to run.
  11. Click on finish and you are done.

When the new email arrives not only will the email move to the folder that you specify but data from it will be exported to Excel as well.

FOLLOWUP

To extract the contents from your email body, you can split it using SPLIT() and then parsing out the relevant information from it. See this example

Dim MyAr() As String

MyAr = Split(olMail.body, vbCrLf)

For i = LBound(MyAr) To UBound(MyAr)
    '~~> This will give you the contents of your email
    '~~> on separate lines
    Debug.Print MyAr(i)
Next i

Private vs Protected - Visibility Good-Practice Concern

I read an article a while ago that talked about locking down every class as much as possible. Make everything final and private unless you have an immediate need to expose some data or functionality to the outside world. It's always easy to expand the scope to be more permissible later on, but not the other way around. First consider making as many things as possible final which will make choosing between private and protected much easier.

  1. Make all classes final unless you need to subclass them right away.
  2. Make all methods final unless you need to subclass and override them right away.
  3. Make all method parameters final unless you need to change them within the body of the method, which is kinda awkward most of the times anyways.

Now if you're left with a final class, then make everything private unless something is absolutely needed by the world - make that public.

If you're left with a class that does have subclass(es), then carefully examine every property and method. First consider if you even want to expose that property/method to subclasses. If you do, then consider whether a subclass can wreak havoc on your object if it messed up the property value or method implementation in the process of overriding. If it's possible, and you want to protect your class' property/method even from subclasses (sounds ironic, I know), then make it private. Otherwise make it protected.

Mapping over values in a python dictionary

There is no such function; the easiest way to do this is to use a dict comprehension:

my_dictionary = {k: f(v) for k, v in my_dictionary.items()}

In python 2.7, use the .iteritems() method instead of .items() to save memory. The dict comprehension syntax wasn't introduced until python 2.7.

Note that there is no such method on lists either; you'd have to use a list comprehension or the map() function.

As such, you could use the map() function for processing your dict as well:

my_dictionary = dict(map(lambda kv: (kv[0], f(kv[1])), my_dictionary.iteritems()))

but that's not that readable, really.

How do I uniquely identify computers visiting my web site?

I guess the verdict is i cannot programmatically uniquely identify a computer which is visiting my web site.

I have the following question. When i use a machine which has never visited my online banking web site i get asked for additional authentification. then, if i go back a second time to the online banking site i dont get asked the additional authentification. reading the answers to my question i decided it must be a cookie involved. therefore, i deleted all cookies in IE and relogged onto my online banking site fully expecting to be asked the authentification questions again. to my surprise i was not asked. doesnt this lead one to believe the bank is doing some kind of pc tagging which doesnt involve cookies?

further, after much googling today i found the following company who claims to sell a solution which does uniquely identify machines which visit a web site. http://www.the41.com/products.asp.

i appreciate all the good information if you could clarify further this conflicting information i found i would greatly appreciate it.

How to allow http content within an iframe on a https site

You could try scraping whatever you need with PHP or another server side language, then put the iframe to the scraped content. Here's an example with PHP:

scrapedcontent.php:

<?php
$homepage = file_get_contents('http://www.example.com/');
echo $homepage;
?>

index.html:

<iframe src="scrapedcontent.php"></iframe>

Have nginx access_log and error_log log to STDOUT and STDERR of master process

If the question is docker related... the official nginx docker images do this by making softlinks towards stdout/stderr

RUN ln -sf /dev/stdout /var/log/nginx/access.log && ln -sf /dev/stderr /var/log/nginx/error.log
