Generic Interface

I'd stay with two different interfaces.

You said that 'I want to group my service executors under a common interface... It also seems overkill creating two separate interfaces for the two different service calls... A class will only implement one of these interfaces'

It's not clear what is the reason to have a single interface then. If you want to use it as a marker, you can just exploit annotations instead.

Another point is that there is a possible case that your requirements change and method(s) with another signature appears at the interface. Of course it's possible to use Adapter pattern then but it would be rather strange to see that particular class implements interface with, say, three methods where two of them trow UnsupportedOperationException. It's possible that the forth method appears etc.

numpy max vs amax vs maximum

You've already stated why np.maximum is different - it returns an array that is the element-wise maximum between two arrays.

As for np.amax and np.max: they both call the same function - np.max is just an alias for np.amax, and they compute the maximum of all elements in an array, or along an axis of an array.

In [1]: import numpy as np

In [2]: np.amax
Out[2]: <function numpy.core.fromnumeric.amax>

In [3]: np.max
Out[3]: <function numpy.core.fromnumeric.amax>

How do I detect IE 8 with jQuery?

If you fiddle with browser versions it leads to no good very often. You don't want to implement it by yourself. But you can Modernizr made by Paul Irish and other smart folks. It will detect what the browser actually can do and put apropriate classes in <html> element. However with Modernizr, you can test IE version like this:

$('html.lt-ie9').each() {
    // this will execute if browser is IE 8 or less
}

Similary, you can use .lt-ie8, and .lt-ie7.

How to count how many values per level in a given factor?

Here 2 ways to do it:

set.seed(1)
tt <- sample(letters,100,rep=TRUE)

## using table
table(tt)
tt
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
2 3 3 3 2 4 6 1 6 5 6 4 7 2 2 2 5 4 5 3 8 4 5 4 3 1
## using tapply
tapply(tt,tt,length)
a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
2 3 3 3 2 4 6 1 6 5 6 4 7 2 2 2 5 4 5 3 8 4 5 4 3 1

How to show all rows by default in JQuery DataTable

Use:

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
    iDisplayLength: -1
});

Or if using 1.10+

$('#example').dataTable({
    paging: false
});

The option you should use is iDisplayLength:

$('#adminProducts').dataTable({
  'iDisplayLength': 100
});

$('#table').DataTable({
   "lengthMenu": [ [5, 10, 25, 50, -1], [5, 10, 25, 50, "All"] ]
});

It will Load by default all entries.

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
    iDisplayLength: -1
});

Or if using 1.10+

$('#example').dataTable({
    paging: false
});

If you want to load by default 25 not all do this.

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
});

Check if a value is in an array or not with Excel VBA

Use Match() function in excel VBA to check whether the value exists in an array.

Sub test()
    Dim x As Long

    vars1 = Array("Abc", "Xyz", "Examples")
    vars2 = Array("Def", "IJK", "MNO")

    If IsNumeric(Application.Match(Range("A1").Value, vars1, 0)) Then
        x = 1
    ElseIf IsNumeric(Application.Match(Range("A1").Value, vars2, 0)) Then
        x = 1
    End If

    MsgBox x
End Sub

document.getElementById replacement in angular4 / typescript?

For Angular 8 or posterior @ViewChild have an additional parameter called opts, which have two properties: read and static, read is optional. You can use it like so:

// ...
@ViewChild('mydiv', { static: false }) public mydiv: ElementRef;

constructor() {
// ...
<div #mydiv></div>

NOTE: Static: false is not required anymore in Angular 9. (just { static: true } when you are going to use that variable inside ngOnInit)

Android XXHDPI resources

A set of four generalized sizes: small, normal, large, and xlarge Note: Beginning with Android 3.2 (API level 13), these size groups are deprecated in favor of a new technique for managing screen sizes based on the available screen width. If you're developing for Android 3.2 and greater, see Declaring Tablet Layouts for Android 3.2 for more information.

A set of six generalized densities:

ldpi (low) ~120dpi

Make docker use IPv4 for port binding

As @daniel-t points out in the comment: github.com/docker/docker/issues/2174 is about showing binding only to IPv6 in netstat, but that is not an issue. As that github issues states:

When setting up the proxy, Docker requests the loopback address '127.0.0.1', Linux realises this is an address that exists in IPv6 (as ::0) and opens on both (but it is formally an IPv6 socket). When you run netstat it sees this and tells you it is an IPv6 - but it is still listening on IPv4. If you have played with your settings a little, you may have disabled this trick Linux does - by setting net.ipv6.bindv6only = 1.

In other words, just because you see it as IPv6 only, it is still able to communicate on IPv4 unless you have IPv6 set to only bind on IPv6 with the net.ipv6.bindv6only setting. To be clear, net.ipv6.bindv6only should be 0 - you can run sysctl net.ipv6.bindv6only to verify.

How to get content body from a httpclient call?

If you are not wanting to use async you can add .Result to force the code to execute synchronously:

private string GetResponseString(string text)
{
    var httpClient = new HttpClient();

    var parameters = new Dictionary<string, string>();
    parameters["text"] = text;

    var response = httpClient.PostAsync(BaseUri, new FormUrlEncodedContent(parameters)).Result;
    var contents = response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync().Result;

    return contents;
 }

Declare an empty two-dimensional array in Javascript?

Create an object and push that object into an array

 var jSONdataHolder = function(country, lat, lon) {

    this.lat = lat;
    this.lon = lon;
}

var jSONholderArr = [];

jSONholderArr.push(new jSONdataHolder("Sweden", "60", "17"));
jSONholderArr.push(new jSONdataHolder("Portugal", "38", "9"));
jSONholderArr.push(new jSONdataHolder("Brazil", "23", "-46"));

var nObj = jSONholderArr.length;
for (var i = 0; i < nObj; i++) {
   console.log(jSONholderArr[i].country + "; " + jSONholderArr[i].lat + "; " +
   jSONholderArr[i].lon);

How to supply value to an annotation from a Constant java

Does someone know how I can use a String constant or String[] constant to supply value to an annotation?

Unfortunately, you can't do this with arrays. With non-array variables, the value must be final static.

Default values for Vue component props & how to check if a user did not set the prop?

This is an old question, but regarding the second part of the question - how can you check if the user set/didn't set a prop?

Inspecting this within the component, we have this.$options.propsData. If the prop is present here, the user has explicitly set it; default values aren't shown.

This is useful in cases where you can't really compare your value to its default, e.g. if the prop is a function.

Specifying number of decimal places in Python

To calculate tax, you could use round (after all, that's what the restaurant does):

def calc_tax(mealPrice):
    tax = round(mealPrice*.06,2)
    return tax

To display the data, you could use a multi-line string, and the string format method:

def display_data(mealPrice, tax):
    total=round(mealPrice+tax,2)
    print('''\
Your Meal Price is {m:=5.2f}
Tax                {x:=5.2f}
Total              {t:=5.2f}
'''.format(m=mealPrice,x=tax,t=total))

Note the format method was introduced in Python 2.6, for earlier versions you'll need to use old-style string interpolation %:

    print('''\
Your Meal Price is %5.2f
Tax                %5.2f
Total              %5.2f
'''%(mealPrice,tax,total))

Then

mealPrice=input_meal()
tax=calc_tax(mealPrice)
display_data(mealPrice,tax)

yields:

# Enter the meal subtotal: $43.45
# Your Meal Price is 43.45
# Tax                 2.61
# Total              46.06

What does EntityManager.flush do and why do I need to use it?

The EntityManager.flush() operation can be used the write all changes to the database before the transaction is committed. By default JPA does not normally write changes to the database until the transaction is committed. This is normally desirable as it avoids database access, resources and locks until required. It also allows database writes to be ordered, and batched for optimal database access, and to maintain integrity constraints and avoid deadlocks. This means that when you call persist, merge, or remove the database DML INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE is not executed, until commit, or until a flush is triggered.

How to loop through all enum values in C#?

UPDATED
Some time on, I see a comment that brings me back to my old answer, and I think I'd do it differently now. These days I'd write:

private static IEnumerable<T> GetEnumValues<T>()
{
    // Can't use type constraints on value types, so have to do check like this
    if (typeof(T).BaseType != typeof(Enum))
    {
        throw new ArgumentException("T must be of type System.Enum");
    }

    return Enum.GetValues(typeof(T)).Cast<T>();
}

Android SDK folder taking a lot of disk space. Do we need to keep all of the System Images?

This is the minimal stuff I keep for day to day Android development (including production code). Latest versions from API 25 to API 27 (Nougat to Android P) included only, and you can work great with it.

  • To minimize even more, just keep any one of the below versions as same and keep a lower versions i.e. API 16 with same files downloaded as below.

Delete commit on gitlab

We've had similar problem and it was not enough to only remove commit and force push to GitLab.
It was still available in GitLab interface using url:

We've had to remove project from GitLab and recreate it to get rid of this commit in GitLab UI.

Can I set the height of a div based on a percentage-based width?

This can actually be done with only CSS, but the content inside the div must be absolutely positioned. The key is to use padding as a percentage and the box-sizing: border-box CSS attribute:

_x000D_
_x000D_
div {_x000D_
  border: 1px solid red;_x000D_
  width: 40%;_x000D_
  padding: 40%;_x000D_
  box-sizing: border-box;_x000D_
  position: relative;_x000D_
}_x000D_
p {_x000D_
  position: absolute;_x000D_
  top: 0;_x000D_
  left: 0;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div>_x000D_
  <p>Some unnecessary content.</p>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Adjust percentages to your liking. Here is a JSFiddle

Best /Fastest way to read an Excel Sheet into a DataTable?

The below code is tested by myself and is very simple, understandable, usable and fast. This code, initially takes all sheet names, then puts all tables of that excel file in a DataSet.

    public static DataSet ToDataSet(string exceladdress, int startRecord = 0, int maxRecord = -1, string condition = "")
    {
        DataSet result = new DataSet();
        using (OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(

How to draw rounded rectangle in Android UI?

In your layout xml do the following:

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:shape="rectangle">

    <solid android:color="@android:color/holo_red_dark" />

    <corners android:radius="32dp" />

</shape>

By changing the android:radius you can change the amount of "radius" of the corners.

<solid> is used to define the color of the drawable.

You can use replace android:radius with android:bottomLeftRadius, android:bottomRightRadius, android:topLeftRadius and android:topRightRadius to define radius for each corner.

Test credit card numbers for use with PayPal sandbox

A bit late in the game but just in case it helps anyone.

If you are testing using the Sandbox and on the payment page you want to test payments NOT using a PayPal account but using the "Pay with Debit or Credit Card option" (i.e. when a regular Joe/Jane, NOT PayPal users, want to buy your stuff) and want to save yourself some time: just go to a site like http://www.getcreditcardnumbers.com/ and get numbers from there. You can use any Expiry date (in the future) and any numeric CCV (123 works).

The "test credit card numbers" in the PayPal documentation are just another brick in their infuriating wall of convoluted stuff.

I got the url above from PayPal's tech support.

Tested using a simple Hosted button and IPN. Good luck.

Error message "unreported exception java.io.IOException; must be caught or declared to be thrown"

The error message means that any method that calls showfile() must either declare that it, in turn, throws IOException, or the call must be inside a try block that catches IOException. When you call showfile(), you do neither of these; for example, your filecontent constructor neither declares IOException nor contains a try block.

The intent is that some method, somewhere, should contain a try block, and catch and handle this exception. The compiler is trying to force you to handle the exception somewhere.

By the way, this code is (sorry to be so blunt) horrible. You don't close any of the files you open, the BufferedReader always points to the first file, even though you seem to be trying to make it point to another, the loops contain off-by-one errors that will cause various exceptions, etc. When you do get this to compile, it will not work as you expect. I think you need to slow down a little.

number of values in a list greater than a certain number

You can do like this using function:

print ("The list : " + str(l))
def count_greater30(l):

ASP.NET MVC: What is the purpose of @section?

@section is for defining a content are override from a shared view. Basically, it is a way for you to adjust your shared view (similar to a Master Page in Web Forms).

You might find Scott Gu's write up on this very interesting.

Edit: Based on additional question clarification

The @RenderSection syntax goes into the Shared View, such as:

<div id="sidebar">
    @RenderSection("Sidebar", required: false)
</div>

This would then be placed in your view with @Section syntax:

@section Sidebar{
    <!-- Content Here -->
}

In MVC3+ you can either define the Layout file to be used for the view directly or you can have a default view for all views.

Common view settings can be set in _ViewStart.cshtml which defines the default layout view similar to this:

@{
    Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml";
}

You can also set the Shared View to use directly in the file, such as index.cshtml directly as shown in this snippet.

@{
    ViewBag.Title = "Corporate Homepage";
    ViewBag.BodyID = "page-home";
    Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout2.cshtml";
}

There are a variety of ways you can adjust this setting with a few more mentioned in this SO answer.

Trying to use Spring Boot REST to Read JSON String from POST

The issue appears with parsing the JSON from request body, tipical for an invalid JSON. If you're using curl on windows, try escaping the json like -d "{"name":"value"}" or even -d "{"""name""":"value"""}"

On the other hand you can ommit the content-type header in which case whetewer is sent will be converted to your String argument

Google Maps: how to get country, state/province/region, city given a lat/long value?

I used this question as a starting point for my own solution. Thought it was appropriate to contribute my code back since its smaller than tabacitu's

Dependencies:

Code:

if(geoPosition.init()){

    var foundLocation = function(city, state, country, lat, lon){
        //do stuff with your location! any of the first 3 args may be null
        console.log(arguments);
    }

    var geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder();
    geoPosition.getCurrentPosition(function(r){
        var findResult = function(results, name){
            var result =  _.find(results, function(obj){
                return obj.types[0] == name && obj.types[1] == "political";
            });
            return result ? result.short_name : null;
        };
        geocoder.geocode({'latLng': new google.maps.LatLng(r.coords.latitude, r.coords.longitude)}, function(results, status) {
            if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK && results.length) {
                results = results[0].address_components;
                var city = findResult(results, "locality");
                var state = findResult(results, "administrative_area_level_1");
                var country = findResult(results, "country");
                foundLocation(city, state, country, r.coords.latitude, r.coords.longitude);
            } else {
                foundLocation(null, null, null, r.coords.latitude, r.coords.longitude);
            }
        });
    }, { enableHighAccuracy:false, maximumAge: 1000 * 60 * 1 });

How can I obfuscate (protect) JavaScript?

I'm under the impression that some enterprises (e.g.: JackBe) put encrypted JavaScript code inside *.gif files, rather than JS files, as an additional measure of obfuscation.

Scale image to fit a bounding box

The cleanest and simplest way to do this:

First some CSS:

div.image-wrapper {
    height: 230px; /* Suggestive number; pick your own height as desired */
    position: relative;
    overflow: hidden; /* This will do the magic */
    width: 300px; /* Pick an appropriate width as desired, unless you already use a grid, in that case use 100% */
}
img {
    width: 100%;
    position: absolute;
    left: 0;
    top: 0;
    height: auto;
}

The HTML:

<div class="image-wrapper">
  <img src="yourSource.jpg">
</div>

This should do the trick!

How to test valid UUID/GUID?

Beside Gambol's answer that will do the job in nearly all cases, all answers given so far missed that the grouped formatting (8-4-4-4-12) is not mandatory to encode GUIDs in text. It's used extremely often but obviously also a plain chain of 32 hexadecimal digits can be valid.[1] regexenh:

/^[0-9a-f]{8}-?[0-9a-f]{4}-?[1-5][0-9a-f]{3}-?[89ab][0-9a-f]{3}-?[0-9a-f]{12}$/i

[1] The question is about checking variables, so we should include the user-unfriendly form as well.

NUnit vs. MbUnit vs. MSTest vs. xUnit.net

It's not a big deal, it's pretty easy to switch between them. MSTest being integrated isn't a big deal either, just grab testdriven.net.

Like the previous person said pick a mocking framework, my favourite at the moment is Moq.

What is the right way to POST multipart/form-data using curl?

I had a hard time sending a multipart HTTP PUT request with curl to a Java backend. I simply tried

curl -X PUT URL \
   --header 'Content-Type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------BOUNDARY' \
   --data-binary @file

and the content of the file was

-----------BOUNDARY
Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name1"
Content-Type: application/xml;version=1.0;charset=UTF-8

<xml>content</xml>
-----------BOUNDARY
Content-Disposition: form-data; name="name2"
Content-Type: text/plain

content
-----------BOUNDARY--

but I always got an error that the boundary was incorrect. After some Java backend debugging I found out that the Java implementation was adding a \r\n-- as a prefix to the boundary, so after changing my input file to

                          <-- here's the CRLF
-------------BOUNDARY <-- added '--' at the beginning
...
-------------BOUNDARY <-- added '--' at the beginning
...
-------------BOUNDARY-- <-- added '--' at the beginning

everything works fine!

tl;dr

Add a newline (CRLF \r\n) at the beginning of the multipart boundary content and -- at the beginning of the boundaries and try again.

Maybe you are sending a request to a Java backend that needs this changes in the boundary.

How can I create a memory leak in Java?

I think that a valid example could be using ThreadLocal variables in an environment where threads are pooled.

For instance, using ThreadLocal variables in Servlets to communicate with other web components, having the threads being created by the container and maintaining the idle ones in a pool. ThreadLocal variables, if not correctly cleaned up, will live there until, possibly, the same web component overwrites their values.

Of course, once identified, the problem can be solved easily.

Facebook page automatic "like" URL (for QR Code)

For a hyperlink just use www.facebook.com/++page ID++/like

Eg: www.facebook.com/MYPAGEISAWESOME/like

To make it work with m.facebook.com here's what you do:

Open the Facebook page you're looking for then change the URL to the mobile URL ( which is www.m.facebook.com/MYPAGEISAWESOME ).

Now you should see a big version of the mobile Facebook page. Copy the target URL of the like button.

Pop that URL into the QR generator to make a "scan to like" barcode. This will open the m.Facebook page in the browser of most mobiles directly from the QR reader. If they are not logged into Facebook then they will be prompted to log in and then click 'like'. If logged in, it will auto like.

Hope this helps!

Also, definitely include something with a "click here/scan here to like us on Facebook"

undefined reference to 'std::cout'

Compile the program with:

g++ -Wall -Wextra -Werror -c main.cpp -o main.o
     ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ <- For listing all warnings when your code is compiled.

as cout is present in the C++ standard library, which would need explicit linking with -lstdc++ when using gcc; g++ links the standard library by default.

With gcc, (g++ should be preferred over gcc)

gcc main.cpp -lstdc++ -o main.o

How can I iterate over the elements in Hashmap?

You should not map score to player. You should map player (or his name) to score:

Map<Player, Integer> player2score = new HashMap<Player, Integer>();

Then add players to map: int score = .... Player player = new Player(); player.setName("John"); // etc. player2score.put(player, score);

In this case the task is trivial:

int score = player2score.get(player);

Difference Between Cohesion and Coupling

The term cohesion is indeed a little counter intuitive for what it means in software design.

Cohesion common meaning is that something that sticks together well, is united, which are characterized by strong bond like molecular attraction. However in software design, it means striving for a class that ideally does only one thing, so multiple sub-modules are not even involved.

Perhaps we can think of it this way. A part has the most cohesion when it is the only part (does only one thing and can't be broken down further). This is what is desired in software design. Cohesion simply is another name for "single responsibility" or "separation of concerns".

The term coupling on the hand is quite intuitive which means when a module doesn't depend on too many other modules and those that it connects with can be easily replaced for example obeying liskov substitution principle .

Injecting Mockito mocks into a Spring bean

Perhaps not the perfect solution, but I tend not to use spring to do DI for unit tests. the dependencies for a single bean (the class under test) usually aren't overly complex so I just do the injection directly in the test code.

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc2

You need to decode data from input string into unicode, before using it, to avoid encoding problems.

field.text = data.decode("utf8")

php stdClass to array

Just googled it, and found here a handy function that is useful for converting stdClass object to array recursively.

<?php
function object_to_array($object) {
 if (is_object($object)) {
  return array_map(__FUNCTION__, get_object_vars($object));
 } else if (is_array($object)) {
  return array_map(__FUNCTION__, $object);
 } else {
  return $object;
 }
}
?>

Automatic login script for a website on windows machine?

I used @qwertyjones's answer to automate logging into Oracle Agile with a public password.

I saved the login page as index.html, edited all the href= and action= fields to have the full URL to the Agile server.

The key <form> line needed to change from

<form autocomplete="off" name="MainForm" method="POST"
 action="j_security_check"
 onsubmit="return false;" target="_top">

to

<form autocomplete="off" name="MainForm" method="POST"
 action="http://my.company.com:7001/Agile/default/j_security_check"
 onsubmit="return false;" target="_top">

I also added this snippet to the end of the <body>

<script>
function checkCookiesEnabled(){ return true; }
document.MainForm.j_username.value = "joeuser";
document.MainForm.j_password.value = "abcdef";
submitLoginForm();
</script>

I had to disable the cookie check by redefining the function that did the check, because I was hosting this from XAMPP and I didn't want to deal with it. The submitLoginForm() call was inspired by inspecting the keyPressEvent() function.

How to run server written in js with Node.js

If you are in a Linux container, such as on a Chromebook, you will need to manually browse to your localhost's address. I am aware the newer Chrome OS versions no longer have this problem, but on my Chromebook, I still had to manually browse to the localhost's address for your code to work.

To browse to your locahost's address, type this in command line: sudo ifconfig

and note the inet address under eth0.

Otherwise, as others have noted, simply type node.js filename and it will work as long as you point the browser to the proper address.

Hope this helps!

Converting a sentence string to a string array of words in Java

string.replaceAll() doesn't correctly work with locale different from predefined. At least in jdk7u10.

This example creates a word dictionary from textfile with windows cyrillic charset CP1251

    public static void main (String[] args) {
    String fileName = "Tolstoy_VoinaMir.txt";
    try {
        List<String> lines = Files.readAllLines(Paths.get(fileName),
                                                Charset.forName("CP1251"));
        Set<String> words = new TreeSet<>();
        for (String s: lines ) {
            for (String w : s.split("\\s+")) {
                w = w.replaceAll("\\p{Punct}","");
                words.add(w);
            }
        }
        for (String w: words) {
            System.out.println(w);
        }
    } catch (Exception e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

How to detect when a youtube video finishes playing?

This can be done through the youtube player API:

http://jsfiddle.net/7Gznb/

Working example:

    <div id="player"></div>

    <script src="http://www.youtube.com/player_api"></script>

    <script>

        // create youtube player
        var player;
        function onYouTubePlayerAPIReady() {
            player = new YT.Player('player', {
              width: '640',
              height: '390',
              videoId: '0Bmhjf0rKe8',
              events: {
                onReady: onPlayerReady,
                onStateChange: onPlayerStateChange
              }
            });
        }

        // autoplay video
        function onPlayerReady(event) {
            event.target.playVideo();
        }

        // when video ends
        function onPlayerStateChange(event) {
            if(event.data === 0) {
                alert('done');
            }
        }

    </script>

Python loop that also accesses previous and next values

Pythonic and elegant way:

objects = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
value = 3
if value in objects:
   index = objects.index(value)
   previous_value = objects[index-1]
   next_value = objects[index+1] if index + 1 < len(objects) else None

css3 text-shadow in IE9

As IE9 does not support CSS3 text-shadow, I would just use the filter property for IE instead. Live example: http://jsfiddle.net/dmM2S/

text-shadow:1px 1px 1px red; /* CSS3 */

can be replaced with

filter: Shadow(Color=red, Direction=130, Strength=1); /* IE Proprietary Filter*/

You can get the results to be very similar.

Does Java have something like C#'s ref and out keywords?

Three solutions not officially, explicitly mentioned:

ArrayList<String> doThings() {

Pair<String, String> doThings() {
  //
}

For Pair, I would recommend: https://commons.apache.org/proper/commons-lang/apidocs/org/apache/commons/lang3/tuple/Pair.html

json: cannot unmarshal object into Go value of type

Here's a fixed version of it: http://play.golang.org/p/w2ZcOzGHKR

The biggest fix that was needed is when Unmarshalling an array, that property needs to be an array/slice in the struct as well.

For example:

{ "things": ["a", "b", "c"] }

Would Unmarshal into a:

type Item struct {
    Things []string
}

And not into:

type Item struct {
    Things string
}

The other thing to watch out for when Unmarshaling is that the types line up exactly. It will fail when Unmarshalling a JSON string representation of a number into an int or float field -- "1" needs to Unmarshal into a string, not into an int like we saw with ShippingAdditionalCost int

Using ResourceManager

The quick and dirty way to check what string you need it to look at the generated .resources files.

Your .resources are generated in the resources projects obj/Debug directory. (if not right click on .resx file in solution explorer and hit 'Run Custom Tool' to generate the .resources files)

Navigate to this directory and have a look at the filenames. You should see a file ending in XYZ.resources. Copy that filename and remove the trailing .resources and that is the file you should be loading.

For example in my obj/Bin directory I have the file:

MyLocalisation.Properties.Resources.resources

If the resource files are in the same Class library/Application I would use the following C#

ResourceManager RM = new ResourceManager("MyLocalisation.Properties.Resources", Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly());

However, as it sounds like you are using the resources file from a separate Class library/Application you probably want

Assembly localisationAssembly = Assembly.Load("MyLocalisation");
ResourceManager RM =  new ResourceManager("MyLocalisation.Properties.Resources", localisationAssembly);

How to store a large (10 digits) integer?

You could store by creating an object that hold a string value number to store in an array list. by example: BigInt objt = new BigInt("999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999");

objt is created by the constructor of BigInt class. Inside the class look like.

BigInt{

ArrayList<Integer> myNumber = new ArrayList <Integer>();

public BigInt(){}

public BigInt(String number){ for(int i; i<number.length; i++){ myNumber.add(number.indexOf(i)); } }

}

How to change PHP version used by composer

I'm assuming Windows if you're using WAMP. Composer likely is just using the PHP set in your path: How to access PHP with the Command Line on Windows?

You should be able to change the path to PHP using the same instructions.

Otherwise, composer is just a PHAR file, you can download the PHAR and execute it using any PHP:

Generate Java class from JSON?

I created a github project Json2Java that does this. https://github.com/inder123/json2java

Json2Java provides customizations such as renaming fields, and creating inheritance hierarchies.

I have used the tool to create some relatively complex APIs:

Gracenote's TMS API: https://github.com/inder123/gracenote-java-api

Google Maps Geocoding API: https://github.com/inder123/geocoding

Locking pattern for proper use of .NET MemoryCache

Somewhat dated question, but maybe still useful: you may take a look at FusionCache ?, which I recently released.

The feature you are looking for is described here, and you can use it like this:

const string CacheKey = "CacheKey";
static string GetCachedData()
{
    return fusionCache.GetOrSet(
        CacheKey,
        _ => SomeHeavyAndExpensiveCalculation(),
        TimeSpan.FromMinutes(20)
    );
}

You may also find some of the other features interesting like fail-safe, advanced timeouts with background factory completion and support for an optional, distributed 2nd level cache.

If you will give it a chance please let me know what you think.

1-Declare a temp table variable in the script your building:

DECLARE @ShiftPeriodList TABLE(id INT NOT NULL);

2-Allocate to temp table:

IF (SOME CONDITION)
BEGIN
        INSERT INTO @ShiftPeriodList SELECT ShiftId FROM [hr].[tbl_WorkShift]
END
IF (SOME CONDITION2)
BEGIN
    INSERT INTO @ShiftPeriodList
        SELECT  ws.ShiftId
        FROM [hr].[tbl_WorkShift] ws
        WHERE ws.WorkShift = 'Weekend(VSD)' OR ws.WorkShift = 'Weekend(SDL)'

END

3-Reference the table when you need it in a WHERE statement :

INSERT INTO SomeTable WHERE ShiftPeriod IN (SELECT * FROM @ShiftPeriodList)

What is the most efficient way to check if a value exists in a NumPy array?

To check multiple values, you can use numpy.in1d(), which is an element-wise function version of the python keyword in. If your data is sorted, you can use numpy.searchsorted():

import numpy as np
data = np.array([1,4,5,5,6,8,8,9])
values = [2,3,4,6,7]
print np.in1d(values, data)

index = np.searchsorted(data, values)
print data[index] == values

Display JSON Data in HTML Table

I created the following function to generate an html table from an arbitrary JSON object:

function toTable(json, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap){
    let tab;
    if(typeof colKeyClassMap === 'undefined'){
        colKeyClassMap = {};
    }
    if(typeof rowKeyClassMap === 'undefined'){
        rowKeyClassMap = {};
    }

    const newTable = '<table class="table table-bordered table-condensed table-striped" />';
    if($.isArray(json)){
        if(json.length === 0){
            return '[]'
        } else {
            const first = json[0];
            if($.isPlainObject(first)){
                tab = $(newTable);
                const row = $('<tr />');
                tab.append(row);
                $.each( first, function( key, value ) {
                    row.append($('<th />').addClass(colKeyClassMap[key]).text(key))
                });

                $.each( json, function( key, value ) {
                    const row = $('<tr />');
                    $.each( value, function( key, value ) {
                        row.append($('<td />').addClass(colKeyClassMap[key]).html(toTable(value, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap)))
                    });
                    tab.append(row);
                });

                return tab;
            } else if ($.isArray(first)) {
                tab = $(newTable);

                $.each( json, function( key, value ) {
                    const tr = $('<tr />');
                    const td = $('<td />');
                    tr.append(td);
                    $.each( value, function( key, value ) {
                        td.append(toTable(value, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap));
                    });
                    tab.append(tr);
                });

                return tab;
            } else {
                return json.join(", ");
            }
        }

    } else if($.isPlainObject(json)){
        tab = $(newTable);
        $.each( json, function( key, value ) {
            tab.append(
                $('<tr />')
                    .append($('<th style="width: 20%;"/>').addClass(rowKeyClassMap[key]).text(key))
                    .append($('<td />').addClass(rowKeyClassMap[key]).html(toTable(value, colKeyClassMap, rowKeyClassMap))));
        });
        return tab;
    } else if (typeof json === 'string') {
        if(json.slice(0, 4) === 'http'){
            return '<a target="_blank" href="'+json+'">'+json+'</a>';
        }
        return json;
    } else {
        return ''+json;
    }
};

So you can simply call:

$('#mydiv').html(toTable([{"city":"AMBALA","cStatus":"Y"},{"city":"ASANKHURD","cStatus":"Y"},{"city":"ASSANDH","cStatus":"Y"}]));

efficient way to implement paging

LinqToSql will automatically convert a .Skip(N1).Take(N2) into the TSQL syntax for you. In fact, every "query" you do in Linq, is actually just creating a SQL query for you in the background. To test this, just run SQL Profiler while your application is running.

The skip/take methodology has worked very well for me, and others from what I read.

Out of curiosity, what type of self-paging query do you have, that you believe is more efficient than Linq's skip/take?

Gradient text color

The way this effect works is very simple. The element is given a background which is the gradient. It goes from one color to another depending on the colors and color-stop percentages given for it.

For example, in rainbow text sample (note that I've converted the gradient into the standard syntax):

  • The gradient starts at color #f22 at 0% (that is the left edge of the element). First color is always assumed to start at 0% even though the percentage is not mentioned explicitly.
  • Between 0% to 14.25%, the color changes from #f22 to #f2f gradually. The percenatge is set at 14.25 because there are seven color changes and we are looking for equal splits.
  • At 14.25% (of the container's size), the color will exactly be #f2f as per the gradient specified.
  • Similarly the colors change from one to another depending on the bands specified by color stop percentages. Each band should be a step of 14.25%.

So, we end up getting a gradient like in the below snippet. Now this alone would mean the background applies to the entire element and not just the text.

_x000D_
_x000D_
.rainbow {_x000D_
  background-image: linear-gradient(to right, #f22, #f2f 14.25%, #22f 28.5%, #2ff 42.75%, #2f2 57%, #2f2 71.25%, #ff2 85.5%, #f22);_x000D_
  color: transparent;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<span class="rainbow">Rainbow text</span>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Since, the gradient needs to be applied only to the text and not to the element on the whole, we need to instruct the browser to clip the background from the areas outside the text. This is done by setting background-clip: text.

(Note that the background-clip: text is an experimental property and is not supported widely.)

Now if you want the text to have a simple 3 color gradient (that is, say from red - orange - brown), we just need to change the linear-gradient specification as follows:

  • First parameter is the direction of the gradient. If the color should be red at left side and brown at the right side then use the direction as to right. If it should be red at right and brown at left then give the direction as to left.
  • Next step is to define the colors of the gradient. Since our gradient should start as red on the left side, just specify red as the first color (percentage is assumed to be 0%).
  • Now, since we have two color changes (red - orange and orange - brown), the percentages must be set as 100 / 2 for equal splits. If equal splits are not required, we can assign the percentages as we wish.
  • So at 50% the color should be orange and then the final color would be brown. The position of the final color is always assumed to be at 100%.

Thus the gradient's specification should read as follows:

background-image: linear-gradient(to right, red, orange 50%, brown).

If we form the gradients using the above mentioned method and apply them to the element, we can get the required effect.

_x000D_

How do I remove a library from the arduino environment?

I had to look for them in C:\Users\Dell\AppData\Local\Arduino15\

I had to take help from the "date created" and "date modified" attributes to identify which libraries to delete.

But the names still show in the IDE... But it is something I can live with for now.

How can I set a DateTimePicker control to a specific date?

You can set the "value" property

dateTimePicker1.Value = DateTime.Today;

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (File is created but contains nothing)

using (var fs = new FileStream(filePath, FileMode.Append, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.ReadWrite))
using (var sw = new StreamWriter(fs))
{
    sw.WriteLine(message);
}

Can I pass parameters in computed properties in Vue.Js

Yes methods are there for using params. Like answers stated above, in your example it's best to use methods since execution is very light.

Only for reference, in a situation where the method is complex and cost is high, you can cache the results like so:

data() {
    return {
        fullNameCache:{}
    };
}

methods: {
    fullName(salut) {
        if (!this.fullNameCache[salut]) {
            this.fullNameCache[salut] = salut + ' ' + this.firstName + ' ' + this.lastName;
        }
        return this.fullNameCache[salut];
    }
}

note: When using this, watchout for memory if dealing with thousands

Android SeekBar setOnSeekBarChangeListener

Seekbar called onProgressChanged method when we initialize first time. We can skip by using below code We need to check boolean it return false when initialize automatically

volumeManager.setOnSeekBarChangeListener(new SeekBar.OnSeekBarChangeListener() {
            @Override
            public void onProgressChanged(SeekBar seekBar, int i, boolean b) {
                if(b){
                    mAudioManager.setStreamVolume(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC, i, 0);
                }
            }

            @Override
            public void onStartTrackingTouch(SeekBar seekBar) {

            }

            @Override
            public void onStopTrackingTouch(SeekBar seekBar) {

            }
        });

See what's in a stash without applying it

From the man git-stash page:

The modifications stashed away by this command can be listed with git stash list, inspected with git stash show

show [<stash>]
       Show the changes recorded in the stash as a diff between the stashed state and
       its original parent. When no <stash> is given, shows the latest one. By default,
       the command shows the diffstat, but it will accept any format known to git diff
       (e.g., git stash show -p stash@{1} to view the second most recent stash in patch
       form).

To list the stashed modifications

git stash list

To show files changed in the last stash

git stash show

So, to view the content of the most recent stash, run

git stash show -p

To view the content of an arbitrary stash, run something like

git stash show -p stash@{1}

Best way to format integer as string with leading zeros?

One-liner alternative to the built-in zfill.

This function takes x and converts it to a string, and adds zeros in the beginning only and only if the length is too short:

def zfill_alternative(x,len=4): return ( (('0'*len)+str(x))[-l:] if len(str(x))<len else str(x) )

To sum it up - build-in: zfill is good enough, but if someone is curious on how to implement this by hand, here is one more example.

How do I get the time of day in javascript/Node.js?

To start your node in PST time zone , use following command in ubuntu.

TZ=\"/usr/share/zoneinfo/GMT+0\" && export TZ && npm start &

Then You can refer Date Library to get the custom calculation date and time functions in node.

To use it client side refer this link, download index.js and assertHelper.js and include that in your HTML.

<script src="assertHelper.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="index.js"></script>
$( document ).ready(function() {
    DateLibrary.getDayOfWeek(new Date("2015-06-15"),{operationType:"Day_of_Week"}); // Output : Monday
}

You can use different functions as given in examples to get custom dates.

If first day of week is Sunday, what day will be on 15th June 2015.

 DateLibrary.getDayOfWeek(new Date("2015-06-15"),
    {operationType:"Day_Number_of_Week",
        startDayOfWeek:"Sunday"}) // Output : 1

If first day of week is Tuesday, what week number in year will be follow in 15th June 2015 as one of the date.

 DateLibrary.getWeekNumber(new Date("2015-06-15"),
    {operationType:"Week_of_Year",
        startDayOfWeek:"Tuesday"}) // Output : 24

Refer other functions to fulfill your custom date requirements.

DECODE( ) function in SQL Server

In my Case I used it in a lot of places first example if you have 2 values for select statement like gender (Male or Female) then use the following statement:

SELECT CASE Gender WHEN 'Male' THEN 1 ELSE 2 END AS Gender

If there is more than one condition like nationalities you can use it as the following statement:

SELECT CASE Nationality
WHEN 'AMERICAN'   THEN 1
WHEN 'BRITISH'   THEN 2
WHEN 'GERMAN'    THEN 3
WHEN 'EGYPT'     THEN 4
WHEN 'PALESTINE' THEN 5
ELSE 6 END AS Nationality

How to while loop until the end of a file in Python without checking for empty line?

for line in f

reads all file to a memory, and that can be a problem.

My offer is to change the original source by replacing stripping and checking for empty line. Because if it is not last line - You will receive at least newline character in it ('\n'). And '.strip()' removes it. But in last line of a file You will receive truely empty line, without any characters. So the following loop will not give You false EOF, and You do not waste a memory:

with open("blablabla.txt", "r") as fl_in:
   while True:
      line = fl_in.readline()

        if not line:
            break

      line = line.strip()
      # do what You want

How to push object into an array using AngularJS

Push only work for array .

Make your arrayText object to Array Object.

Try Like this

JS

this.arrayText = [{

  text2: 'world',
}];

this.addText = function(text) {
  this.arrayText.push(text);
}
this.form = {

Function to Calculate a CRC16 Checksum

crcany will generate efficient C code for any CRC, and includes a library of over one hundred known CRC definitions.

Efficient CRC code uses tables instead of bit-wise calculations. crcany generates both byte-wise routines and word-wise routines, the latter tuned to the architecture they are generated on. Word-wise is the fastest. Byte-wise is still much faster than bit-wise, but the implementation is more easily portable over architectures.

You do not seem to have a protocol definition with a specific CRC definition that you need to match. In this case, you can pick any 16-bit CRC in the catalog, and you will get good performance.

If you have a relatively low bit error rate, e.g. single digit number of errors per packet, and you want to maximize your error detection performance, you would need to look at the packet size you are applying the CRC to, assuming that that is constant or bounded, and look at the performance of the best polynomials in Philip Koopman's extensive research. The classic CRCs, such as the CCITT/Kermit 16-bit CRC or the X.25 16-bit CRC are not the best performers.

One of the good 16-bit performers in Koopman's tables that is also in the catalog of CRCs used in practice is CRC-16/DNP. It has very good performance detecting up to 6-bit errors in a packet. Following is the code generated by crcany for that CRC definition. This code assumes a little-endian architecture for the word-wise calculation, e.g. Intel x86 and x86-64, and it assumes that uintmax_t is 64 bits. crcany can be used to generate alternative code for big-endian and other word sizes.

crc16dnp.h:

// The _bit, _byte, and _word routines return the CRC of the len bytes at mem,
// applied to the previous CRC value, crc. If mem is NULL, then the other
// arguments are ignored, and the initial CRC, i.e. the CRC of zero bytes, is
// returned. Those routines will all return the same result, differing only in
// speed and code complexity. The _rem routine returns the CRC of the remaining
// bits in the last byte, for when the number of bits in the message is not a
// multiple of eight. The low bits bits of the low byte of val are applied to
// crc. bits must be in 0..8.

#include <stddef.h>

// Compute the CRC a bit at a time.
unsigned crc16dnp_bit(unsigned crc, void const *mem, size_t len);

How do I use the nohup command without getting nohup.out?

sudo bash -c "nohup /opt/viptel/viptel_bin/log.sh $* &> /dev/null"  &

Redirecting the output of sudo causes sudo to reask for the password, thus an awkward mechanism is needed to do this variant.

Google Maps API - Get Coordinates of address

A Nuget solved my problem:Geocoding.Google 4.0.0. Install it so not necessary to write extra classes etc.

https://www.nuget.org/packages/Geocoding.Google/

Copy files from one directory into an existing directory

What you want is:

cp -R t1/. t2/

The dot at the end tells it to copy the contents of the current directory, not the directory itself. This method also includes hidden files and folders.

mysql update column with value from another table

you need to join the two tables:

for instance you want to copy the value of name from tableA into tableB where they have the same ID

UPDATE tableB t1
        INNER JOIN tableA t2
             ON t1.id = t2.id
SET t1.name = t2.name
WHERE t2.name = 'Joe'

UPDATE 1

UPDATE tableB t1
        INNER JOIN tableA t2
             ON t1.id = t2.id
SET t1.name = t2.name

UPDATE 2

UPDATE tableB t1

How to show PIL images on the screen?

If you find that PIL has problems on some platforms, using a native image viewer may help.

img.save("tmp.png") #Save the image to a PNG file called tmp.png.

For MacOS:

import os
os.system("open tmp.png") #Will open in Preview.

For most GNU/Linux systems with X.Org and a desktop environment:

import os
os.system("xdg-open tmp.png")

For Windows:

import os
os.system("powershell -c tmp.png")

How to import module when module name has a '-' dash or hyphen in it?

If you can't rename the original file, you could also use a symlink:

ln -s foo-bar.py foo_bar.py

Then you can just:

from foo_bar import *

using OR and NOT in solr query

Instead of "NOT [condition]" use "(*:* NOT [condition])"

Perhaps you have the compiler settings for your IDE set to Java 1.4 mode even if you are using a Java 5 JDK? Otherwise I agree with the other people who already mentioned autoboxing/unboxing.

How to change the length of a column in a SQL Server table via T-SQL

So, let's say you have this table:

CREATE TABLE YourTable(Col1 VARCHAR(10))

And you want to change Col1 to VARCHAR(20). What you need to do is this:

ALTER TABLE YourTable
ALTER COLUMN Col1 VARCHAR(20)

That'll work without problems since the length of the column got bigger. If you wanted to change it to VARCHAR(5), then you'll first gonna need to make sure that there are not values with more chars on your column, otherwise that ALTER TABLE will fail.

Keras, How to get the output of each layer?

Assuming you have:

1- Keras pre-trained model.

2- Input x as image or set of images. The resolution of image should be compatible with dimension of the input layer. For example 80*80*3 for 3-channels (RGB) image.

3- The name of the output layer to get the activation. For example, "flatten_2" layer. This should be include in the layer_names variable, represents name of layers of the given model.

4- batch_size is an optional argument.

Then you can easily use get_activation function to get the activation of the output layer for a given input x and pre-trained model:

import six
import numpy as np
import keras.backend as k
from numpy import float32
def get_activations(x, model, layer, batch_size=128):
"""
Return the output of the specified layer for input `x`. `layer` is specified by layer index (between 0 and
`nb_layers - 1`) or by name. The number of layers can be determined by counting the results returned by
calling `layer_names`.
:param x: Input for computing the activations.
:type x: `np.ndarray`. Example: x.shape = (80, 80, 3)
:param model: pre-trained Keras model. Including weights.
:type model: keras.engine.sequential.Sequential. Example: model.input_shape = (None, 80, 80, 3)
:param layer: Layer for computing the activations
:type layer: `int` or `str`. Example: layer = 'flatten_2'
:param batch_size: Size of batches.
:type batch_size: `int`
:return: The output of `layer`, where the first dimension is the batch size corresponding to `x`.
:rtype: `np.ndarray`. Example: activations.shape = (1, 2000)
"""

    layer_names = [layer.name for layer in model.layers]
    if isinstance(layer, six.string_types):
        if layer not in layer_names:
            raise ValueError('Layer name %s is not part of the graph.' % layer)
        layer_name = layer
    elif isinstance(layer, int):
        if layer < 0 or layer >= len(layer_names):
            raise ValueError('Layer index %d is outside of range (0 to %d included).'
                             % (layer, len(layer_names) - 1))
        layer_name = layer_names[layer]
    else:
        raise TypeError('Layer must be of type `str` or `int`.')

    layer_output = model.get_layer(layer_name).output
    layer_input = model.input
    output_func = k.function([layer_input], [layer_output])

    # Apply preprocessing
    if x.shape == k.int_shape(model.input)[1:]:
        x_preproc = np.expand_dims(x, 0)
    else:
        x_preproc = x
    assert len(x_preproc.shape) == 4

    # Determine shape of expected output and prepare array
    output_shape = output_func([x_preproc[0][None, ...]])[0].shape
    activations = np.zeros((x_preproc.shape[0],) + output_shape[1:], dtype=float32)

    # Get activations with batching
    for batch_index in range(int(np.ceil(x_preproc.shape[0] / float(batch_size)))):
        begin, end = batch_index * batch_size, min((batch_index + 1) * batch_size, x_preproc.shape[0])
        activations[begin:end] = output_func([x_preproc[begin:end]])[0]

    return activations

how to use DEXtoJar

Follow the below steps to do so_

  1. Rename your APK file(e.g., rename your APK file to .zip Ex- test.apk -> test.zip) & extract resultant zip file.
  2. Copy your .dex file in to dex2jar folder.
  3. Run setclasspath.bat. This should be run because this data is used in the next step.
  4. Go to Windows Command prompt, change the folder path to the path of your dex2jar folder and run the command as follows: d2j-dex2jar.bat classes.dex
  5. enjoy!! Your jar file will be ready in the same folder with name classes_dex2jar.jar.

How can I create a product key for my C# application?

The trick is to have an algorithm that only you know (such that it could be decoded at the other end).

There are simple things like, "Pick a prime number and add a magic number to it"

More convoluted options such as using asymmetric encryption of a set of binary data (that could include a unique identifier, version numbers, etc) and distribute the encrypted data as the key.

inverting image in Python with OpenCV

You almost did it. You were tricked by the fact that abs(imagem-255) will give a wrong result since your dtype is an unsigned integer. You have to do (255-imagem) in order to keep the integers unsigned:

def inverte(imagem, name):
    imagem = (255-imagem)
    cv2.imwrite(name, imagem)

You can also invert the image using the bitwise_not function of OpenCV:

imagem = cv2.bitwise_not(imagem)

plot a circle with pyplot

You need to add it to an axes. A Circle is a subclass of an Patch, and an axes has an add_patch method. (You can also use add_artist but it's not recommended.)

Here's an example of doing this:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

circle1 = plt.Circle((0, 0), 0.2, color='r')
circle2 = plt.Circle((0.5, 0.5), 0.2, color='blue')
circle3 = plt.Circle((1, 1), 0.2, color='g', clip_on=False)

fig, ax = plt.subplots() # note we must use plt.subplots, not plt.subplot
# (or if you have an existing figure)
# fig = plt.gcf()
# ax = fig.gca()

ax.add_patch(circle1)
ax.add_patch(circle2)
ax.add_patch(circle3)

fig.savefig('plotcircles.png')

This results in the following figure:

The first circle is at the origin, but by default clip_on is True, so the circle is clipped when ever it extends beyond the axes. The third (green) circle shows what happens when you don't clip the Artist. It extends beyond the axes (but not beyond the figure, ie the figure size is not automatically adjusted to plot all of your artists).

The units for x, y and radius correspond to data units by default. In this case, I didn't plot anything on my axes (fig.gca() returns the current axes), and since the limits have never been set, they defaults to an x and y range from 0 to 1.

Here's a continuation of the example, showing how units matter:

circle1 = plt.Circle((0, 0), 2, color='r')
# now make a circle with no fill, which is good for hi-lighting key results
circle2 = plt.Circle((5, 5), 0.5, color='b', fill=False)
circle3 = plt.Circle((10, 10), 2, color='g', clip_on=False)

ax = plt.gca()
ax.cla() # clear things for fresh plot

# change default range so that new circles will work
ax.set_xlim((0, 10))
ax.set_ylim((0, 10))
# some data
ax.plot(range(11), 'o', color='black')
# key data point that we are encircling
ax.plot((5), (5), 'o', color='y')

ax.add_patch(circle1)
ax.add_patch(circle2)
ax.add_patch(circle3)
fig.savefig('plotcircles2.png')

which results in:

You can see how I set the fill of the 2nd circle to False, which is useful for encircling key results (like my yellow data point).

How to replace url parameter with javascript/jquery?

UpdatE: Make it into a nice function for you: http://jsfiddle.net/wesbos/KH25r/1/

function swapOutSource(url, newSource) {
    params = url.split('&');
    var src = params[0].split('=');
    params.shift();
    src[1] = newSource;
    var newUrl = ( src.join('=') + params.join('&'));
    return newUrl;
}

Then go at it!

var newUrl = swapOutSource("http://localhost/mysite/includes/phpThumb.php?src=http://media2.jupix.co.uk/v3/clients/4/properties/795/IMG_795_1_large.jpg&w=592&aoe=1&q=100","http://link/to/new.jpg");

Is it possible to install another version of Python to Virtualenv?

I have not found suitable answer, so here goes my take, which builds upon @toszter answer, but does not use system Python (and you may know, it is not always good idea to install setuptools and virtualenv at system level when dealing with many Python configurations):

#!/bin/sh

mkdir python_ve
cd python_ve

MYROOT=`pwd`
mkdir env pyenv dep

cd ${MYROOT}/dep
wget https://pypi.python.org/packages/source/s/setuptools/setuptools-15.2.tar.gz#md5=a9028a9794fc7ae02320d32e2d7e12ee
wget https://raw.github.com/pypa/virtualenv/master/virtualenv.py
wget https://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7.9/Python-2.7.9.tar.xz
xz -d Python-2.7.9.tar.xz

cd ${MYROOT}/pyenv
tar xf ../dep/Python-2.7.9.tar
cd Python-2.7.9
./configure --prefix=${MYROOT}/pyenv && make -j 4 && make install

cd ${MYROOT}/pyenv

tar xzf ../dep/setuptools-15.2.tar.gz

cd ${MYROOT}

pyenv/bin/python dep/virtualenv.py --no-setuptools --python=${MYROOT}/pyenv/bin/python --verbose env
env/bin/python pyenv/setuptools-15.2/setup.py install
env/bin/easy_install pip

echo "virtualenv in ${MYROOT}/env"

The trick of breaking chicken-egg problem here is to make virtualenv without setuptools first, because it otherwise fails (pip can not be found). It may be possible to install pip / wheel directly, but somehow easy_install was the first thing which came to my mind. Also, the script can be improved by factoring out concrete versions.

NB. Using xz in the script.

"401 Unauthorized" on a directory

You do not have permision to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

This happened despite the fact the user is already authenticated via Active Directory.

There can be many causes to Access Denied error, but if you think you’ve already configured everything correctly from your web application, there might be a little detail that’s forgotten. Make sure you give the proper permission to Authenticated Users to access your web application directory.

Here are the steps I took to solve this issue.

  1. Right-click on the directory where the web application is stored and select Properties and click on Security tab.

  2. Click on Click on Edit…, then Add… button. Type in Authenticated Users in the Enter the object names to select., then Add button. Type in Authenticated Users in the Enter the object names to select.

  3. Click OK and you should see Authenticated Users as one of the user names. Give proper permissions on the Permissions for Authenticated Users box on the lower end if they’re not checked already.

  4. Click OK twice to close the dialog box. It should take effect immediately, but if you want to be sure, you can restart IIS for your web application.

Refresh your browser and it should display the web page now.

Hope this helps!

Is there a WebSocket client implemented for Python?

Autobahn has a good websocket client implementation for Python as well as some good examples. I tested the following with a Tornado WebSocket server and it worked.

from twisted.internet import reactor
from autobahn.websocket import WebSocketClientFactory, WebSocketClientProtocol, connectWS

class EchoClientProtocol(WebSocketClientProtocol):

   def sendHello(self):
      self.sendMessage("Hello, world!")

   def onOpen(self):
      self.sendHello()

   def onMessage(self, msg, binary):
      print "Got echo: " + msg
      reactor.callLater(1, self.sendHello)

if __name__ == '__main__':

   factory = WebSocketClientFactory("ws://localhost:9000")
   factory.protocol = EchoClientProtocol
   connectWS(factory)

How to remove items from a list while iterating?

for i in range(len(somelist) - 1, -1, -1):

Python 2 users: replace range by xrange to avoid creating a hardcoded list

CustomErrors mode="Off"

We also ran into this error and in our case it was because the application pool user did not have permissions to the web.config file anymore. The reason it lost its permissions (everything was fine before) was because we had a backup of the site in a rar file and I dragged a backup version of the web.config from the rar into the site. This seems to have removed all permissions to the web.config file except for me, the logged on user.

It took us a while to figure this out because I repeatedly checked permissions on the folder level, but never on the file level.

Insert 2 million rows into SQL Server quickly

Re the solution for SqlBulkCopy:

I used the StreamReader to convert and process the text file. The result was a list of my object.

I created a class than takes Datatable or a List<T> and a Buffer size (CommitBatchSize). It will convert the list to a data table using an extension (in the second class).

It works very fast. On my PC, I am able to insert more than 10 million complicated records in less than 10 seconds.

Here is the class:

using System;
using System.Collections;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Data;
using System.Data.SqlClient;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Threading.Tasks;

namespace DAL
{

public class BulkUploadToSql<T>
{
    public IList<T> InternalStore { get; set; }
    public string TableName { get; set; }
    public int CommitBatchSize { get; set; }=1000;
    public string ConnectionString { get; set; }

    public void Commit()
    {
        if (InternalStore.Count>0)
        {
            DataTable dt;
            int numberOfPages = (InternalStore.Count / CommitBatchSize)  + (InternalStore.Count % CommitBatchSize == 0 ? 0 : 1);
            for (int pageIndex = 0; pageIndex < numberOfPages; pageIndex++)
                {
                    dt= InternalStore.Skip(pageIndex * CommitBatchSize).Take(CommitBatchSize).ToDataTable();
                BulkInsert(dt);
                }
        }
    }

    public void BulkInsert(DataTable dt)
    {
        using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(ConnectionString))
        {
            // make sure to enable triggers
            // more on triggers in next post
            SqlBulkCopy bulkCopy =
                new SqlBulkCopy
                (
                connection,
                SqlBulkCopyOptions.TableLock |
                SqlBulkCopyOptions.FireTriggers |
                SqlBulkCopyOptions.UseInternalTransaction,
                null
                );

            // set the destination table name
            bulkCopy.DestinationTableName = TableName;
            connection.Open();

            // write the data in the "dataTable"
            bulkCopy.WriteToServer(dt);
            connection.Close();
        }
        // reset
        //this.dataTable.Clear();
    }

}

public static class BulkUploadToSqlHelper
{
    public static DataTable ToDataTable<T>(this IEnumerable<T> data)
    {
        PropertyDescriptorCollection properties =
            TypeDescriptor.GetProperties(typeof(T));
        DataTable table = new DataTable();
        foreach (PropertyDescriptor prop in properties)
            table.Columns.Add(prop.Name, Nullable.GetUnderlyingType(prop.PropertyType) ?? prop.PropertyType);
        foreach (T item in data)
        {
            DataRow row = table.NewRow();
            foreach (PropertyDescriptor prop in properties)
                row[prop.Name] = prop.GetValue(item) ?? DBNull.Value;
            table.Rows.Add(row);
        }
        return table;
    }
}

}

Here is an example when I want to insert a List of my custom object List<PuckDetection> (ListDetections):

var objBulk = new BulkUploadToSql<PuckDetection>()
{
        InternalStore = ListDetections,
        TableName= "PuckDetections",
        CommitBatchSize=1000,
        ConnectionString="ENTER YOU CONNECTION STRING"
};
objBulk.Commit();

The BulkInsert class can be modified to add column mapping if required. Example you have an Identity key as first column.(this assuming that the column names in the datatable are the same as the database)

//ADD COLUMN MAPPING
foreach (DataColumn col in dt.Columns)
{
        bulkCopy.ColumnMappings.Add(col.ColumnName, col.ColumnName);
}

Garbage collector in Android

There is no need to call the garbage collector after an OutOfMemoryError.

It's Javadoc clearly states:

Thrown when the Java Virtual Machine cannot allocate an object because it is out of memory, and no more memory could be made available by the garbage collector.

So, the garbage collector already tried to free up memory before generating the error but was unsuccessful.

GROUP BY p.id, p.name;

Datetime in where clause

Assuming we're talking SQL Server DateTime

Note: BETWEEN includes both ends of the range, so technically this pattern will be wrong:

errorDate BETWEEN '12/20/2008' AND '12/21/2008'

My preferred method for a time range like that is:

'20081220' <= errorDate AND errordate < '20081221'

Works with common indexes (range scan, SARGable, functionless) and correctly clips off midnight of the next day, without relying on SQL Server's time granularity (e.g. 23:59:59.997)

How to Make A Chevron Arrow Using CSS?

Here's a different approach:

1) Use the multiplication character: &times; ×

2) Hide half of it with overflow:hidden

3) Then add a triangle as a pseudo element for the tip.

The advantage here is that no transforms are necessary. (It will work in IE8+)

Python-Requests close http connection

On Requests 1.X, the connection is available on the response object:

r = requests.post("https://stream.twitter.com/1/statuses/filter.json",
                  data={'track': toTrack}, auth=('username', 'passwd'))

r.connection.close()

How to run or debug php on Visual Studio Code (VSCode)

XDebug changed some configuration settings.

Old settings:

xdebug.remote_enable = 1
xdebug.remote_autostart = 1
xdebug.remote_port = 9000

New settings:

xdebug.mode=debug
xdebug.start_with_request=yes
xdebug.client_port=9000

So you should paste the latter in php.ini file. More info: XDebug Changed Configuration Settings

JavaScript variable assignments from tuples

Javascript 1.7 added destructured assignment which allows you to do essentially what you are after.

}
var [a, b] = getTuple();
// a === "bob" , b === 24 are both true

No, because the commit message is related with the commit SHA / hash, and if we change it the commit SHA is also changed. The way I used is to create a comment on that commit. I can't think the other way.

How to do select from where x is equal to multiple values?

You can try using parentheses around the OR expressions to make sure your query is interpreted correctly, or more concisely, use IN:

SELECT ads.*, location.county
FROM ads
LEFT JOIN location ON location.county = ads.county_id
WHERE ads.published = 1
AND ads.type = 13
AND ads.county_id IN (2,5,7,9)

Regular expression to extract text between square brackets

([[][a-z \s]+[]])

Above should work given the following explaination

  • characters within square brackets[] defines characte class which means pattern should match atleast one charcater mentioned within square brackets

  • \s specifies a space

  •  + means atleast one of the character mentioned previously to +.

jQuery equivalent of JavaScript's addEventListener method

Not all browsers support event capturing (for example, Internet Explorer versions less than 9 don't) but all do support event bubbling, which is why it is the phase used to bind handlers to events in all cross-browser abstractions, jQuery's included.

The nearest to what you are looking for in jQuery is using bind() (superseded by on() in jQuery 1.7+) or the event-specific jQuery methods (in this case, click(), which calls bind() internally anyway). All use the bubbling phase of a raised event.

Find all controls in WPF Window by type

Do note that using the VisualTreeHelper does only work on controls that derive from Visual or Visual3D. If you also need to inspect other elements (e.g. TextBlock, FlowDocument etc.), using VisualTreeHelper will throw an exception.

Here's an alternative that falls back to the logical tree if necessary:

How to fix java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe?

This is caused by:

  • most usually, writing to a connection when the other end has already closed it;
  • less usually, the peer closing the connection without reading all the data that is already pending at his end.

So in both cases you have a poorly defined or implemented application protocol.

There is a third reason which I will not document here but which involves the peer taking deliberate action to reset rather than properly close the connection.

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=2.0.0.0

For similar assembly binding errors , following steps may help:

  1. Right click on your Solution and click Manage Nuget Packages for Solution ...
  2. go to Consolidate Tab (last tab) and check if any any differences between packages installed in different projects inside your solution. specially pay attention to your referenced projects which may have lower versions because they usually are less noticed)
  3. consolidate specially packages related to your assembly error and note that many packages are dependent on some other packages like *.code & *.api & ...
  4. after resolving all suspected consolidations , rebuild and rerun the app and see if the assembly bindings are resolved.

How to make Git "forget" about a file that was tracked but is now in .gitignore?

Especially for the IDE based files, I use this:

For instance the slnx.sqlite, I just got rid off it completely like following:

git rm {PATH_OF_THE_FILE}/slnx.sqlite -f
git commit -m "remove slnx.sqlite"

Just keep that in mind that some of those files stores some local user settings and preferences for projects (like what files you had open). So every time you navigate or do some changes in your IDE, that file is changed and therefore it checks it out and show as there are uncommitted changes.

use video as background for div

Pure CSS method

It is possible to center a video inside an element just like a cover sized background-image without JS using the object-fit attribute or CSS Transforms.

2021 answer: object-fit

As pointed in the comments, it is possible to achieve the same result without CSS transform, but using object-fit, which I think it's an even better option for the same result:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.video-container {
    height: 300px;
    width: 300px;
    position: relative;

  width: 100%;
  height: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  object-fit: cover;
  z-index: 0;
}

/* Just styling the content of the div, the *magic* in the previous rules */
.video-container .caption {
  z-index: 1;
  position: relative;
  text-align: center;
  color: #dc0000;
  padding: 10px;

Previous answer: CSS Transform

You can set a video as a background to any HTML element easily thanks to transform CSS property.

Note that you can use the transform technique to center vertically and horizontally any HTML element.

_x000D_
_x000D_
.video-container {
  height: 300px;
  width: 300px;
  overflow: hidden;
  position: relative;
}

.video-container video {
  min-width: 100%;
  min-height: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  top: 50%;
  left: 50%;
  transform: translateX(-50%) translateY(-50%);
}

/* Just styling the content of the div, the *magic* in the previous rules */
.video-container .caption {
  z-index: 1;
  position: relative;
  text-align: center;
  color: #dc0000;
  padding: 10px;
}
_x000D_
<div class="video-container">
  <video autoplay muted loop>

Strip spaces/tabs/newlines - python

Since there is not anything else that was more intricate, I wanted to share this as it helped me out.

This is what I originally used:

import requests
import re

url = 'https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10711116/strip-spaces-tabs-newlines-python' # noqa
headers = {'user-agent': 'my-app/0.0.1'}
r = requests.get(url, headers=headers)
print("{}".format(r.content))

Undesired Result:

b'<!DOCTYPE html>\r\n\r\n\r\n    <html itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/QAPage" class="html__responsive">\r\n\r\n    <head>\r\n\r\n        <title>string - Strip spaces/tabs/newlines - python - Stack Overflow</title>\r\n        <link

This is what I changed it to:

import requests
import re

url = 'https://stackoverflow.com/questions/10711116/strip-spaces-tabs-newlines-python' # noqa
headers = {'user-agent': 'my-app/0.0.1'}
r = requests.get(url, headers=headers)
regex = r'\s+'
print("CNT: {}".format(re.sub(regex, " ", r.content.decode('utf-8'))))

Desired Result:

<!DOCTYPE html> <html itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/QAPage" class="html__responsive"> <head> <title>string - Strip spaces/tabs/newlines - python - Stack Overflow</title>

The precise regex that @MattH had mentioned, was what worked for me in fitting it into my code. Thanks!

Note: This is python3

How can I get the MAC and the IP address of a connected client in PHP?

// Turn on output buffering
ob_start();

//Get the ipconfig details using system commond
system('ipconfig /all');

// Capture the output into a variable
$mycomsys=ob_get_contents();

// Clean (erase) the output buffer
ob_clean();

$find_mac = "Physical";
//find the "Physical" & Find the position of Physical text

$pmac = strpos($mycomsys, $find_mac);
// Get Physical Address

$macaddress=substr($mycomsys,($pmac+36),17);
//Display Mac Address

echo $macaddress;

This works for me on Windows, as ipconfig /all is Windows system command.

EditText non editable

android:editable="false" should work, but it is deprecated, you should be using android:inputType="none" instead.

Alternatively, if you want to do it in the code you could do this :

EditText mEdit = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.yourid);
mEdit.setEnabled(false);

This is also a viable alternative :

EditText mEdit = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.yourid);
mEdit.setKeyListener(null);

If you're going to make your EditText non-editable, may I suggest using the TextView widget instead of the EditText, since using a EditText seems kind of pointless in that case.

EDIT: Altered some information since I've found that android:editable is deprecated, and you should use android:inputType="none", but there is a bug about it on android code; So please check this.

How to drop all tables from a database with one SQL query?

If you want to use only one SQL query to delete all tables you can use this:

EXEC sp_MSforeachtable @command1 = "DROP TABLE ?"

This is a hidden Stored Procedure in sql server, and will be executed for each table in the database you're connected.

Note: You may need to execute the query a few times to delete all tables due to dependencies.

Note2: To avoid the first note, before running the query, first check if there foreign keys relations to any table. If there are then just disable foreign key constraint by running the query bellow:

EXEC sp_msforeachtable "ALTER TABLE ? NOCHECK CONSTRAINT all"

pop/remove items out of a python tuple

There is a simple but practical solution.

As DSM said, tuples are immutable, but we know Lists are mutable. So if you change a tuple to a list, it will be mutable. Then you can delete the items by the condition, then after changing the type to a tuple again. That’s it.

Please look at the codes below:

tuplex = list(tuplex)
for x in tuplex:
  if (condition):
     tuplex.pop(tuplex.index(x))
tuplex = tuple(tuplex)
print(tuplex)

For example, the following procedure will delete all even numbers from a given tuple.

tuplex = (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
tuplex = list(tuplex)
for x in tuplex:
  if (x % 2 == 0):
     tuplex.pop(tuplex.index(x))
tuplex = tuple(tuplex)
print(tuplex)

if you test the type of the last tuplex, you will find it is a tuple.

Finally, if you want to define an index counter as you did (i.e., n), you should initialize it before the loop, not in the loop.

Does Java have a path joining method?

This is a start, I don't think it works exactly as you intend, but it at least produces a consistent result.

import java.io.File;

public class Main
{
    public static void main(final String[] argv)
        throws Exception
    {
        System.out.println(pathJoin());
        System.out.println(pathJoin(""));
        System.out.println(pathJoin("a"));
        System.out.println(pathJoin("a", "b"));
        System.out.println(pathJoin("a", "b", "c"));
        System.out.println(pathJoin("a", "b", "", "def"));
    }

    public static String pathJoin(final String ... pathElements)
    {
        final String path;

        if(pathElements == null || pathElements.length == 0)
        {
            path = File.separator;
        }
        else
        {
            final StringBuilder builder;

            builder = new StringBuilder();

            for(final String pathElement : pathElements)
            {
                final String sanitizedPathElement;

                // the "\\" is for Windows... you will need to come up with the
                // appropriate regex for this to be portable
                sanitizedPathElement = pathElement.replaceAll("\\" + File.separator, "");

                if(sanitizedPathElement.length() > 0)
                {
                    builder.append(sanitizedPathElement);
                    builder.append(File.separator);
                }
            }

            path = builder.toString();
        }

        return (path);
    }
}

phpMyAdmin on MySQL 8.0

I solved my problem basically with András answer:

1- Log in to MySQL console with root user:

root@9532f0da1a2a:/# mysql -u root -pPASSWORD

And type the root's password to auth.

2- I created a new user:

mysql> CREATE USER 'user'@'hostname' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

3- Grant all privileges to the new user:

mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* To 'user'@'hostname';

4- Change the Authentication Plugin with the password:

mysql> ALTER USER user IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password BY 'PASSWORD';

Now, phpmyadmin works fine logging the new user.

Multi-key dictionary in c#?

I'm currently simply concatenating the keys into a single string as a workaround. Of course, this will not work on non-string keys. Would love to know the answer as well.

Host binding and Host listening

This is the simple example to use both of them:

import {
  Directive, HostListener, HostBinding
}
from '@angular/core';

@Directive({
  selector: '[Highlight]'
})
export class HighlightDirective {
  @HostListener('mouseenter') mouseover() {
    this.backgroundColor = 'green';
  };

  @HostListener('mouseleave') mouseleave() {
    this.backgroundColor = 'white';
  }

  @HostBinding('style.backgroundColor') get setColor() {
     return this.backgroundColor;
  };

  private backgroundColor = 'white';
  constructor() {}

}

Introduction:

  1. HostListener can bind an event to the element.

  2. HostBinding can bind a style to the element.

  3. this is directive, so we can use it for

    Some Text
  4. So according to the debug, we can find that this div has been binded style = "background-color:white"

    Some Text
  5. we also can find that EventListener of this div has two event: mouseenter and mouseleave. So when we move the mouse into the div, the colour will become green, mouse leave, the colour will become white.

How to remove outliers in boxplot in R?

See ?boxplot for all the help you need.

 outline: if ‘outline’ is not true, the outliers are not drawn (as
          points whereas S+ uses lines).

boxplot(x,horizontal=TRUE,axes=FALSE,outline=FALSE)

And for extending the range of the whiskers and suppressing the outliers inside this range:

   range: this determines how far the plot whiskers extend out from the
          box. If ‘range’ is positive, the whiskers extend to the most
          extreme data point which is no more than ‘range’ times the
          interquartile range from the box. A value of zero causes the
          whiskers to extend to the data extremes.

# change the value of range to change the whisker length
boxplot(x,horizontal=TRUE,axes=FALSE,range=2)

How is a CSS "display: table-column" supposed to work?

The CSS table model is based on the HTML table model http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/tables.html

A table is divided into ROWS, and each row contains one or more cells. Cells are children of ROWS, they are NEVER children of columns.

"display: table-column" does NOT provide a mechanism for making columnar layouts (e.g. newspaper pages with multiple columns, where content can flow from one column to the next).

Rather, "table-column" ONLY sets attributes that apply to corresponding cells within the rows of a table. E.g. "The background color of the first cell in each row is green" can be described.

The table itself is always structured the same way it is in HTML.

In HTML (observe that "td"s are inside "tr"s, NOT inside "col"s):

<table ..>
  <col .. />
  <col .. />
  <tr ..>
    <td ..></td>
    <td ..></td>
  </tr>
  <tr ..>
    <td ..></td>
    <td ..></td>
  </tr>
</table>

Corresponding HTML using CSS table properties (Note that the "column" divs do not contain any contents -- the standard does not allow for contents directly in columns):

OPTIONAL: both "rows" and "columns" can be styled by assigning multiple classes to each row and cell as follows. This approach gives maximum flexibility in specifying various sets of cells, or individual cells, to be styled:

_x000D_
//Useful css declarations, depending on what you want to affect, include:_x000D_

In today's flexible designs, which use <div> for multiple purposes, it is wise to put some class on each div, to help refer to it. Here, what used to be <tr> in HTML became class myrow, and <td> became class mycell. This convention is what makes the above CSS selectors useful.

PERFORMANCE NOTE: putting class names on each cell, and using the above multi-class selectors, is better performance than using selectors ending with *, such as .row1 * or even .row1 > *. The reason is that selectors are matched last first, so when matching elements are being sought, .row1 * first does *, which matches all elements, and then checks all the ancestors of each element, to find if any ancestor has class row1. This might be slow in a complex document on a slow device. .row1 > * is better, because only the immediate parent is examined. But it is much better still to immediately eliminate most elements, via .row1 .cell1. (.row1 > .cell1 is an even tighter spec, but it is the first step of the search that makes the biggest difference, so it usually isn't worth the clutter, and the extra thought process as to whether it will always be a direct child, of adding the child selector >.)

The key point to take away re performance is that the last item in a selector should be as specific as possible, and should never be *.

org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: FATAL: sorry, too many clients already

No need to increase the MaxConnections & InitialConnections. Just close your connections after after doing your work. For example if you are creating connection:

try {
     connection = DriverManager.getConnection(
                    "jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1/"+dbname,user,pass);

   } catch (SQLException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return;
}

After doing your work close connection:

try {
    connection.commit();
    connection.close();
} catch (SQLException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}

Focus Next Element In Tab Index

I created a simple jQuery plugin which does just this. It uses the ':tabbable' selector of jQuery UI to find the next 'tabbable' element and selects it.

Example usage:

// Simulate tab key when element is clicked
$('.myElement').bind('click', function(event){
    $.tabNext();
    return false;
});

How to replace specific values in a oracle database column?

In Oracle, there is the concept of schema name, so try using this

update schemname.tablename t
set t.columnname = replace(t.columnname, t.oldvalue, t.newvalue);

How can I get column names from a table in Oracle?

In SQL Server...

SELECT [name] AS [Column Name]
FROM syscolumns
WHERE id = (SELECT id FROM sysobjects WHERE type = 'V' AND [Name] = 'Your table name')

Type = 'V' for views Type = 'U' for tables

Adding placeholder text to textbox

While using the EM_SETCUEBANNER message is probably simplest, one thing I do not like is that the placeholder text disappears when the control gets focus. That's a pet peeve of mine when I'm filling out forms. I have to click off of it to remember what the field is for.

So here is another solution for WinForms. It overlays a Label on top of the control, which disappears only when the user starts typing.

It's certainly not bulletproof. It accepts any Control, but I've only tested with a TextBox. It may need modification to work with some controls. The method returns the Label control in case you need to modify it a bit in a specific case, but that may never be needed.

Use it like this:

SetPlaceholder(txtSearch, "Type what you're searching for");

Here is the method:

/// <summary>
/// Sets placeholder text on a control (may not work for some controls)
/// </summary>
/// <param name="control">The control to set the placeholder on</param>
/// <param name="text">The text to display as the placeholder</param>
/// <returns>The newly-created placeholder Label</returns>
public static Label SetPlaceholder(Control control, string text) {
    var placeholder = new Label {
        Text = text,
        Font = control.Font,
        ForeColor = Color.Gray,
        BackColor = Color.Transparent,
        Cursor = Cursors.IBeam,
        Margin = Padding.Empty,

        //get rid of the left margin that all labels have
        FlatStyle = FlatStyle.System,
        AutoSize = false,

        //Leave 1px on the left so we can see the blinking cursor
        Size = new Size(control.Size.Width - 1, control.Size.Height),
        Location = new Point(control.Location.X + 1, control.Location.Y)
    };

    //when clicking on the label, pass focus to the control
    placeholder.Click += (sender, args) => { control.Focus(); };

    //disappear when the user starts typing
    control.TextChanged += (sender, args) => {
        placeholder.Visible = string.IsNullOrEmpty(control.Text);
    };

    //stay the same size/location as the control
    EventHandler updateSize = (sender, args) => {
        placeholder.Location = new Point(control.Location.X + 1, control.Location.Y);
        placeholder.Size = new Size(control.Size.Width - 1, control.Size.Height);
    };

    control.SizeChanged += updateSize;
    control.LocationChanged += updateSize;

    control.Parent.Controls.Add(placeholder);
    placeholder.BringToFront();

    return placeholder;
}

Invert colors of an image in CSS or JavaScript

For inversion from 0 to 1 and back you can use this library InvertImages, which provides support for IE 10. I also tested with IE 11 and it should work.

force client disconnect from server with socket.io and nodejs

This didn't work for me:

`socket.disconnect()`

This did work for me:

socket.disconnect(true)

Handing over true will close the underlaying connection to the client and not just the namespace the client is connected to Socket IO Documentation.

An example use case: Client did connect to web socket server with invalid access token (access token handed over to web socket server with connection params). Web socket server notifies the client that it is going to close the connection, because of his invalid access token:

// (1) the server code emits
socket.emit('invalidAccessToken', function(data) {
    console.log(data); // (4) server receives 'invalidAccessTokenEmitReceived' from client
    socket.disconnect(true); // (5) force disconnect client
});

// (2) the client code listens to event
// client.on('invalidAccessToken', (name, fn) => {
// // (3) the client ack emits to server
//     fn('invalidAccessTokenEmitReceived');
// });

Why isn't my Pandas 'apply' function referencing multiple columns working?

I have given the comparison of all three discussed above.

Using values

%timeit df['value'] = df['a'].values % df['c'].values

139 µs ± 1.91 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 10000 loops each)

Without values

%timeit df['value'] = df['a']%df['c']

216 µs ± 1.86 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1000 loops each)

Apply function

%timeit df['Value'] = df.apply(lambda row: row['a']%row['c'], axis=1)

474 µs ± 5.07 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1000 loops each)

WPF chart controls

Another one is OxyPlot, which is an open-source cross-platform (WPF, Silverlight, WinForms, Mono) .Net plotting library.

return value after a promise

Use a pattern along these lines:

function getValue(file) {
  return lookupValue(file);
}

getValue('myFile.txt').then(function(res) {
  // do whatever with res here
});

(although this is a bit redundant, I'm sure your actual code is more complicated)

Logout button php

When you want to destroy a session completely, you need to do more then just

session_destroy();

First, you should unset any session variables. Then you should destroy the session followed by closing the write of the session. This can be done by the following:

<?php
session_start();
unset($_SESSION);
session_destroy();
session_write_close();
header('Location: /');
die;
?>

The reason you want have a separate script for a logout is so that you do not accidently execute it on the page. So make a link to your logout script, then the header will redirect to the root of your site.

Edit:

You need to remove the () from your exit code near the top of your script. it should just be

exit;

VBA Macro On Timer style to run code every set number of seconds, i.e. 120 seconds

(This is paraphrased from the MS Access help files. I'm sure XL has something similar.) Basically, TimerInterval is a form-level property. Once set, use the sub Form_Timer to carry out your intended action.

Sub Form_Load()
    Me.TimerInterval = 1000 '1000 = 1 second
End Sub

Sub Form_Timer()
    'Do Stuff
End Sub
