Entity Framework VS LINQ to SQL VS ADO.NET with stored procedures?

Stored procedures:

(+)

  • Great flexibility
  • Full control over SQL
  • The highest performance available

(-)

  • Requires knowledge of SQL
  • Stored procedures are out of source control
  • Substantial amount of "repeating yourself" while specifying the same table and field names. The high chance of breaking the application after renaming a DB entity and missing some references to it somewhere.
  • Slow development

ORM:

(+)

  • Rapid development
  • Data access code now under source control
  • You're isolated from changes in DB. If that happens you only need to update your model/mappings in one place.

(-)

  • Performance may be worse
  • No or little control over SQL the ORM produces (could be inefficient or worse buggy). Might need to intervene and replace it with custom stored procedures. That will render your code messy (some LINQ in code, some SQL in code and/or in the DB out of source control).
  • As any abstraction can produce "high-level" developers having no idea how it works under the hood

The general tradeoff is between having a great flexibility and losing lots of time vs. being restricted in what you can do but having it done very quickly.

There is no general answer to this question. It's a matter of holy wars. Also depends on a project at hand and your needs. Pick up what works best for you.

How can I check the size of a file in a Windows batch script?

Just an idea:

You may get the filesize by running command "dir":

>dir thing

Then again it returns so many things.

Maybe you can get it from there if you look for it.

But I am not sure.

How to move all files including hidden files into parent directory via *

Let me introduce you to my friend "dotglob". It turns on and off whether or not "*" includes hidden files.

$ mkdir test
$ cd test
$ touch a b c .hidden .hi .den
$ ls -a
. ..  .den  .hi .hidden a b c

$ shopt -u dotglob
$ ls *
a b c
$ for i in * ; do echo I found: $i ; done
I found: a
I found: b
I found: c

$ shopt -s dotglob
$ ls *
.den  .hi .hidden a b c
$ for i in * ; do echo I found: $i ; done
I found: .den
I found: .hi
I found: .hidden
I found: a
I found: b
I found: c

It defaults to "off".

$ shopt dotglob
dotglob         off

It is best to turn it back on when you are done otherwise you will confuse things that assume it will be off.

Error when trying to access XAMPP from a network

This solution worked well for me: http://www.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=50902&p=196185#p196185

Edit /opt/lampp/etc/extra/httpd-xampp.conf and adding Require all granted line at bottom of block <Directory "/opt/lampp/phpmyadmin"> to have the following code:

<Directory "/opt/lampp/phpmyadmin">

Opening a new tab to read a PDF file

Just use target on your tag <a>

<a href="newsletter_01.pdf" target="_blank">Read more</a>

The target attribute specifies where to open the link. Using "_blank" will make your browser to open a new window/tab.

You could also use target in many ways. See http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_a_target.asp

Exercises to improve my Java programming skills

I recommend reading through the Sun's tutorials for code examples and practice in all areas of Java programming, especially the areas you wish to improve in.

Depending on how much of beginner examples you were looking for, check out CodingBat for some good beginner exercises. Project Euler is another good site, but depending on your skill level now, this may be too much, but it's worth trying anyways.

Most importantly, Its also worth noting that personal projects are a great way to start to learn a new language. I would also recommend starting a project that is benefical to you and get cracking right away, no time is better than the present!

Unable to launch the IIS Express Web server

Start with deleting the file IISEXPRESS that exists in your directory, then start debugging.

If that does not solve the problem, go to your Project (Ctrl+Alt+L). Right click -> Properties -> Debug and Check "Enable Windows Authentication".

How do I convert datetime.timedelta to minutes, hours in Python?

I defined own helper function to convert timedelta object to 'HH:MM:SS' format - only hours, minutes and seconds, without changing hours to days.

def format_timedelta(td):
    hours, remainder = divmod(td.total_seconds(), 3600)
    minutes, seconds = divmod(remainder, 60)
    hours, minutes, seconds = int(hours), int(minutes), int(seconds)
    if hours < 10:
        hours = '0%s' % int(hours)
    if minutes < 10:
        minutes = '0%s' % minutes
    if seconds < 10:
        seconds = '0%s' % seconds
    return '%s:%s:%s' % (hours, minutes, seconds)

Is there a function to split a string in PL/SQL?

There is apex_util.string_to_table - see my answer to this question.

Also, prior to the existence of the above function, I once posted a solution here on my blog.

Update

In later versions of APEX, apex_util.string_to_table is deprecated, and a similar function apex_string.split is preferred.

How to create a toggle button in Bootstrap

Initial answer from 2013

An excellent (unofficial) Bootstrap Switch is available.

Classic 2013 Switch

<input type="checkbox" name="my-checkbox" checked>
$("[name='my-checkbox']").bootstrapSwitch();

It uses radio types or checkboxes as switches. A type attribute has been added since V.1.8.

Source code is available on Github.

Note from 2018

I would not recommend to use those kind of old Switch buttons now, as they always seemed to suffer of usability issues as pointed by many people.

Please consider having a look at modern Switches like this one from the React Component framework (not Bootstrap related, but can be integrated in Bootstrap grid and UI though).

Other implementations exist for Angular, View or jQuery.

Modern 2018 Switch

import '../assets/index.less'
import React from 'react'
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom'
import Switch from 'rc-switch'

class Switcher extends React.Component {
  state = {
    disabled: false,
  }

  toggle = () => {
    this.setState({
      disabled: !this.state.disabled,
    })
  }

  render() {
    return (
      <div style={{ margin: 20 }}>
        <Switch
          disabled={this.state.disabled}
          checkedChildren={'?'}
          unCheckedChildren={'?'}
        />
        </div>
      </div>
    )
  }
}

ReactDOM.render(<Switcher />, document.getElementById('__react-content'))

Filtering a spark dataframe based on date

I find the most readable way to express this is using a sql expression:

df.filter("my_date < date'2015-01-01'")

we can verify this works correctly by looking at the physical plan from .explain()

+- *(1) Filter (isnotnull(my_date#22) && (my_date#22 < 16436))

How to make inline functions in C#

Yes.

You can create anonymous methods or lambda expressions:

Func<string, string> PrefixTrimmer = delegate(string x) {
    return x ?? "";
};
Func<string, string> PrefixTrimmer = x => x ?? "";

How to convert an array to a string in PHP?

I would turn it into CSV form, like so:

$string_version = implode(',', $original_array)

You can turn it back by doing:

$destination_array = explode(',', $string_version)

Copy a table from one database to another in Postgres

Same as answers by user5542464 and Piyush S. Wanare but split in two steps:

pg_dump -U Username -h DatabaseEndPoint -a -t TableToCopy SourceDatabase > dump
cat dump | psql -h DatabaseEndPoint -p portNumber -U Username -W TargetDatabase

otherwise the pipe asks the two passwords in the same time.

How do you round a floating point number in Perl?

Negative numbers can add some quirks that people need to be aware of.

printf-style approaches give us correct numbers, but they can result in some odd displays. We have discovered that this method (in my opinion, stupidly) puts in a - sign whether or not it should or shouldn't. For example, -0.01 rounded to one decimal place returns a -0.0, rather than just 0. If you are going to do the printf style approach, and you know you want no decimal, use %d and not %f (when you need decimals, it's when the display gets wonky).

While it's correct and for math no big deal, for display it just looks weird showing something like "-0.0".

For the int method, negative numbers can change what you want as a result (though there are some arguments that can be made they are correct).

The int + 0.5 causes real issues with -negative numbers, unless you want it to work that way, but I imagine most people don't. -0.9 should probably round to -1, not 0. If you know that you want negative to be a ceiling rather than a floor then you can do it in one-liner, otherwise, you might want to use the int method with a minor modification (this obviously only works to get back whole numbers:

my $var = -9.1;
my $tmpRounded = int( abs($var) + 0.5));
my $finalRounded = $var >= 0 ? 0 + $tmpRounded : 0 - $tmpRounded;

How do I create a batch file timer to execute / call another batch throughout the day

I did it by writing a little C# app that just wakes up to launch periodic tasks -- don't know if it is doable from a batch file without downloading extensions to support a sleep command. (For my purposes the Windows scheduler didn't work because the apps launched had no graphics context available.)

Run Command Prompt Commands

you can use simply write the code in a .bat format extension ,the code of the batch file :

c:/ copy /b Image1.jpg + Archive.rar Image2.jpg

use this c# code :

Process.Start("file_name.bat")

How to split a data frame?

If you want to split by values in one of the columns, you can use lapply. For instance, to split ChickWeight into a separate dataset for each chick:

data(ChickWeight)
lapply(unique(ChickWeight$Chick), function(x) ChickWeight[ChickWeight$Chick == x,])

Sending E-mail using C#

The .NET framework has some built-in classes which allows you to send e-mail via your app.

You should take a look in the System.Net.Mail namespace, where you'll find the MailMessage and SmtpClient classes. You can set the BodyFormat of the MailMessage class to MailFormat.Html.

It could also be helpfull if you make use of the AlternateViews property of the MailMessage class, so that you can provide a plain-text version of your mail, so that it can be read by clients that do not support HTML.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.mail.mailmessage.alternateviews.aspx

Extract part of a regex match

Use ( ) in regexp and group(1) in python to retrieve the captured string (re.search will return None if it doesn't find the result, so don't use group() directly):

title_search = re.search('<title>(.*)</title>', html, re.IGNORECASE)

if title_search:
    title = title_search.group(1)

How to dynamically create a class?

For those wanting to create a dynamic class just properties (i.e. POCO), and create a list of this class. Using the code provided later, this will create a dynamic class and create a list of this.

var properties = new List<DynamicTypeProperty>()
{
    new DynamicTypeProperty("doubleProperty", typeof(double)),
    new DynamicTypeProperty("stringProperty", typeof(string))
};

// create the new type
var dynamicType = DynamicType.CreateDynamicType(properties);
// create a list of the new type
var dynamicList = DynamicType.CreateDynamicList(dynamicType);

// get an action that will add to the list
var addAction = DynamicType.GetAddAction(dynamicList);

// call the action, with an object[] containing parameters in exact order added
addAction.Invoke(new object[] {1.1, "item1"});
addAction.Invoke(new object[] {2.1, "item2"});
addAction.Invoke(new object[] {3.1, "item3"});

Here are the classes that the previous code uses.

Note: You'll also need to reference the Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.CSharp library.

       /// <summary>
    /// A property name, and type used to generate a property in the dynamic class.
    /// </summary>
    public class DynamicTypeProperty

Using cut command to remove multiple columns

The same could be done with Perl
Because it uses 0-based-indexing instead of 1-based-indexing, the field values are offset by 1

perl -F, -lane 'print join ",", @F[1..3,5..9,11..19]'

is equivalent to:

If the commas are not needed in the output:

How to convert int to Integer

Maven2: Best practice for Enterprise Project (EAR file)

You create a new project. The new project is your EAR assembly project which contains your two dependencies for your EJB project and your WAR project.

So you actually have three maven projects here. One EJB. One WAR. One EAR that pulls the two parts together and creates the ear.

Deployment descriptors can be generated by maven, or placed inside the resources directory in the EAR project structure.

The maven-ear-plugin is what you use to configure it, and the documentation is good, but not quite clear if you're still figuring out how maven works in general.

So as an example you might do something like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/maven-v4_0_0.xsd">

Get key from a HashMap using the value

If you are not bound to use Hashmap, I would advise to use pair< T,T >. The individual elements can be accessed by first and second calls.

Have a look at this http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/utility/pair/

I used it here : http://codeforces.com/contest/507/submission/9531943

Can overridden methods differ in return type?

Java supports* covariant return types for overridden methods. This means an overridden method may have a more specific return type. That is, as long as the new return type is assignable to the return type of the method you are overriding, it's allowed.

For example:

class ShapeBuilder {
    ...
    public Shape build() {
    ....
}

class CircleBuilder extends ShapeBuilder{
    ...
    @Override
    public Circle build() {
    ....
}

This is specified in section 8.4.5 of the Java Language Specification:

Return types may vary among methods that override each other if the return types are reference types. The notion of return-type-substitutability supports covariant returns, that is, the specialization of the return type to a subtype.

A method declaration d1 with return type R1 is return-type-substitutable for another method d2 with return type R2, if and only if the following conditions hold:

  • If R1 is void then R2 is void.

  • If R1 is a primitive type, then R2 is identical to R1.

  • If R1 is a reference type then:

    • R1 is either a subtype of R2 or R1 can be converted to a subtype of R2 by unchecked conversion (§5.1.9), or

    • R1 = |R2|

("|R2|" refers to the erasure of R2, as defined in §4.6 of the JLS.)

* Prior to Java 5, Java had invariant return types, which meant the return type of a method override needed to exactly match the method being overridden.

How to check if all inputs are not empty with jQuery

var isValid = true;
$("#tabledata").find("#tablebody").find("input").each(function() {
var element = $(this);
if (element.val() == "") {
isValid = false;
}
else{
isValid = true;
}
});
console.log(isValid);

sys.argv[1], IndexError: list index out of range

sys.argv is the list of command line arguments passed to a Python script, where sys.argv[0] is the script name itself.

It is erroring out because you are not passing any commandline argument, and thus sys.argv has length 1 and so sys.argv[1] is out of bounds.

To "fix", just make sure to pass a commandline argument when you run the script, e.g.

python ConcatenateFiles.py /the/path/to/the/directory

However, you likely wanted to use some default directory so it will still work when you don't pass in a directory:

cur_dir = sys.argv[1] if len(sys.argv) > 1 else '.'

with open(cur_dir + '/Concatenated.csv', 'w+') as outfile:

    try:
        with open(cur_dir + '/MatrixHeader.csv') as headerfile:
            for line in headerfile:
                outfile.write(line + '\n')
    except:
        print 'No Header File'

Replace Multiple String Elements in C#

string input = "it's worth a lot of money, if you can find a buyer.";
for (dynamic i = 0, repl = new string[,] { { "'", "''" }, { "money", "$" }, { "find", "locate" } }; i < repl.Length / 2; i++) {
    input = input.Replace(repl[i, 0], repl[i, 1]);
}

Storing data into list with class

EmailData clsEmailData = new EmailData();
List<EmailData> lstemail = new List<EmailData>();

clsEmailData.FirstName="JOhn";
clsEmailData.LastName ="Smith";
clsEmailData.Location ="Los Angeles"

lstemail.add(clsEmailData);

Create code first, many to many, with additional fields in association table

I'll just post the code to do this using the fluent API mapping.

public class User {
    public int UserID { get; set; }
    public string Username { get; set; }
    public string Password { get; set; }

    public ICollection<UserEmail> UserEmails { get; set; }
}

public class Email {
    public int EmailID { get; set; }
    public string Address { get; set; }

    public ICollection<UserEmail> UserEmails { get; set; }
}

public class UserEmail {
    public int UserID { get; set; }
    public int EmailID { get; set; }
    public bool IsPrimary { get; set; }
}

On your DbContext derived class you could do this:

public class MyContext : DbContext {
    protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder builder) {
        // Primary keys
        builder.Entity<User>().HasKey(q => q.UserID);
        builder.Entity<Email>().HasKey(q => q.EmailID);
        builder.Entity<UserEmail>().HasKey(q =>
            new {
                q.UserID, q.EmailID
            });

        // Relationships
        builder.Entity<UserEmail>()
            .HasRequired(t => t.Email)
            .WithMany(t => t.UserEmails)
            .HasForeignKey(t => t.EmailID)

        builder.Entity<UserEmail>()
            .HasRequired(t => t.User)
            .WithMany(t => t.UserEmails)
            .HasForeignKey(t => t.UserID)
    }
}

It has the same effect as the accepted answer, with a different approach, which is no better nor worse.

Can I store images in MySQL

You will need to store the image in the database as a BLOB.

you will want to create a column called PHOTO in your table and set it as a mediumblob.

Then you will want to get it from the form like so:

    $data = file_get_contents($_FILES['photo']['tmp_name']);

and then set the column to the value in $data.

Of course, this is bad practice and you would probably want to store the file on the system with a name that corresponds to the users account.

Check if a file exists locally using JavaScript only

No need for an external library if you use Nodejs all you need to do is import the file system module. feel free to edit the code below: const fs = require('fs')

const path = './file.txt'

fs.access(path, fs.F_OK, (err) => {
  if (err) {
    console.error(err)
    return
  }

  //file exists
})

Pressing Ctrl + A in Selenium WebDriver

WebDriver driver = new FirefoxDriver();

Actions action = new Actions(driver);

action.keyDown(Keys.CONTROL).sendKeys("a").keyUp(Keys.CONTROL).perform();

This method removes the extra call ( String.ValueOf() ) to convert unicode to string.

.NET HttpClient. How to POST string value?

You could do something like this

HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://localhost:6740/api/Membership/exist");

req.Method = "POST";
req.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
req.ContentLength = 6;

StreamWriter streamOut = new StreamWriter(req.GetRequestStream(), System.Text.Encoding.ASCII);
streamOut.Write(strRequest);
streamOut.Close();
StreamReader streamIn = new StreamReader(req.GetResponse().GetResponseStream());
string strResponse = streamIn.ReadToEnd();
streamIn.Close();

And then strReponse should contain the values returned by your webservice

int to string in MySQL

You can do this:

select t2.*
from t1
join t2 on t2.url = 'site.com/path/' + CAST(t1.id AS VARCHAR(10)) + '/more'
where t1.id > 9000

Pay attention to CAST(t1.id AS VARCHAR(10)).

Find IP address of directly connected device

You can also get information from directly connected networking devices, such as network switches with LDWin, a portable and free Windows program published on github:

http://www.sysadmit.com/2016/11/windows-como-saber-la-ip-del-switch-al-que-estoy-conectado.html

LDWin supports the following methods of link discovery: CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol) and LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol).

You can obtain the model, management IP, VLAN identifier, Port identifier, firmware version, etc.

How to get size in bytes of a CLOB column in Oracle?

Try this one for CLOB sizes bigger than VARCHAR2:

We have to split the CLOB in parts of "VARCHAR2 compatible" sizes, run lengthb through every part of the CLOB data, and summarize all results.

declare
   my_sum int;
begin
   for x in ( select COLUMN, ceil(DBMS_LOB.getlength(COLUMN) / 2000) steps from TABLE )
   loop
       my_sum := 0;
       for y in 1 .. x.steps
       loop
          my_sum := my_sum + lengthb(dbms_lob.substr( x.COLUMN, 2000, (y-1)*2000+1 ));
          -- some additional output
          dbms_output.put_line('step:' || y );
          dbms_output.put_line('char length:' || DBMS_LOB.getlength(dbms_lob.substr( x.COLUMN, 2000 , (y-1)*2000+1 )));
          dbms_output.put_line('byte length:' || lengthb(dbms_lob.substr( x.COLUMN, 2000, (y-1)*2000+1 )));
          continue;
        end loop;
        dbms_output.put_line('char summary:' || DBMS_LOB.getlength(x.COLUMN));
        dbms_output.put_line('byte summary:' || my_sum);
        continue;

You can use JQuery's resize to attach a handler.

how to format date in Component of angular 5

You can find more information about the date pipe here, such as formats.

If you want to use it in your component, you can simply do

pipe = new DatePipe('en-US'); // Use your own locale

Now, you can simply use its transform method, which will be

const now = Date.now();
const myFormattedDate = this.pipe.transform(now, 'short');

Change :hover CSS properties with JavaScript

Declare a global var:

var td

Then select your guiena pig <td> getting it by its id, if you want to change all of them then

window.onload = function () {
  td = document.getElementsByTagName("td");
}

Make a function to be triggered and a loop to change all of your desired td's

function trigger() {
    for(var x = 0; x < td.length; x++) {
      td[x].className = "yournewclass";
    }
}

Go to your CSS Sheet:

.yournewclass:hover { background-color: #00ff00; }

And that is it, with this you are able to to make all your <td> tags get a background-color: #00ff00; when hovered by changing its css propriety directly (switching between css classes).

Config Error: This configuration section cannot be used at this path

Browse to “C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config” (you will need administrator rights here) Open applicationHost.config

Note: In IISExpress and Visual Studio 2015 the applicationHost.config is stored in $(solutionDir).vs\config\applicationhost.config

Find the section that showed up in the “config source” part of the error message page. For me this has typically been “modules” or “handlers”

Change the overrideModeDefault attribute to be Allow

So the whole line now looks like:

<section name="modules" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" overrideModeDefault="Allow" />

After saving the file, the page loaded up fine in my browser.

Is there a standardized method to swap two variables in Python?

Python evaluates expressions from left to right. Notice that while evaluating an assignment, the right-hand side is evaluated before the left-hand side.

Python docs: Evaluation order

That means the following for the expression a,b = b,a :

  • The right-hand side b,a is evaluated, that is to say, a tuple of two elements is created in the memory. The two elements are the objects designated by the identifiers b and a, that were existing before the instruction is encountered during the execution of the program.
  • Just after the creation of this tuple, no assignment of this tuple object has still been made, but it doesn't matter, Python internally knows where it is.
  • Then, the left-hand side is evaluated, that is to say, the tuple is assigned to the left-hand side.
  • As the left-hand side is composed of two identifiers, the tuple is unpacked in order that the first identifier a be assigned to the first element of the tuple (which is the object that was formerly b before the swap because it had name b)
    and the second identifier b is assigned to the second element of the tuple (which is the object that was formerly a before the swap because its identifiers was a)

This mechanism has effectively swapped the objects assigned to the identifiers a and b

So, to answer your question: YES, it's the standard way to swap two identifiers on two objects.
By the way, the objects are not variables, they are objects.

How to make promises work in IE11

You could try using a Polyfill. The following Polyfill was published in 2019 and did the trick for me. It assigns the Promise function to the window object.

used like: window.Promise https://www.npmjs.com/package/promise-polyfill

If you want more information on Polyfills check out the following MDN web doc https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Glossary/Polyfill

What are the Android SDK build-tools, platform-tools and tools? And which version should be used?

About the version of Android SDK Build-tools, the answer is

By default, the Android SDK uses the most recent downloaded version of the Build Tools.

Source

In Eclipse, you can choose a specific version by using the sdk.buildtools property in the project.properties file.

There seems to be no official page explaining all the build tools. Here is what the Android team says about this.

The [build] tools, such as aidl, aapt, dexdump, and dx, are typically called by the Android build tools or Android Development Tools (ADT), so you rarely need to invoke these tools directly. As a general rule, you should rely on the build tools or the ADT plugin to call them as needed.

Source

Anyway, here is a synthesis of the differences between tools, platform-tools and build-tools:

  • Android SDK Tools
    • Location: $ANDROID_HOME/tools
    • Main tools: ant scripts (to build your APKs) and ddms (for debugging)
  • Android SDK Platform-tools
    • Location: $ANDROID_HOME/platform-tools
    • Main tool: adb (to manage the state of an emulator or an Android device)
  • Android SDK Build-tools
    • Location: $ANDROID_HOME/build-tools/$VERSION/
    • Documentation
    • Main tools: aapt (to generate R.java and unaligned, unsigned APKs), dx (to convert Java bytecode to Dalvik bytecode), and zipalign (to optimize your APKs)

are there dictionaries in javascript like python?

This is an old post, but I thought I should provide an illustrated answer anyway.

Use javascript's object notation. Like so:

states_dictionary={
     "CT":["alex","harry"],
     "AK":["liza","alex"],
     "TX":["fred", "harry"]
};

And to access the values:

states_dictionary.AK[0] //which is liza

or you can use javascript literal object notation, whereby the keys not require to be in quotes:

states_dictionary={
     CT:["alex","harry"],
     AK:["liza","alex"],
     TX:["fred", "harry"]
};

Is there a /dev/null on Windows?

According to this message on the GCC mailing list, you can use the file "nul" instead of /dev/null:

#include <stdio.h>

int main ()
{
    FILE* outfile = fopen ("/dev/null", "w");
    if (outfile == NULL)
    {
        fputs ("could not open '/dev/null'", stderr);
    }
    outfile = fopen ("nul", "w");
    if (outfile == NULL)
    {
        fputs ("could not open 'nul'", stderr);
    }

    return 0;
}

(Credits to Danny for this code; copy-pasted from his message.)

You can also use this special "nul" file through redirection.

apache server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting

Here's an approach that could resolve your problem, and if not would help with troubleshooting.

  1. Create a second Apache virtual server identical to the current one

  2. Send all "normal" user traffic to the original virtual server

  3. Send special or long-running traffic to the new virtual server

Special or long-running traffic could be report-generation, maintenance ops or anything else you don't expect to complete in <<1 second. This can happen serving APIs, not just web pages.

If your resource utilization is low but you still exceed MaxClients, the most likely answer is you have new connections arriving faster than they can be serviced. Putting any slow operations on a second virtual server will help prove if this is the case. Use the Apache access logs to quantify the effect.

Differences between "java -cp" and "java -jar"?

With the -cp argument you provide the classpath i.e. path(s) to additional classes or libraries that your program may require when being compiled or run. With -jar you specify the executable JAR file that you want to run.

You can't specify them both. If you try to run java -cp folder/myexternallibrary.jar -jar myprogram.jar then it won't really work. The classpath for that JAR should be specified in its Manifest, not as a -cp argument.

You can find more about this here and here.

PS: -cp and -classpath are synonyms.

What does 'public static void' mean in Java?

The public keyword is an access specifier, which allows the programmer to control the visibility of class members. When a class member is preceded by public, then that member may be accessed by code outside the class in which it is declared. (The opposite of public is private, which prevents a member from being used by code defined outside of its class.)

In this case, main( ) must be declared as public, since it must be called by code outside of its class when the program is started.

The keyword static allows main( ) to be called without having to instantiate a particular instance of the class. This is necessary since main( ) is called by the Java interpreter before any objects are made.

The keyword void simply tells the compiler that main( ) does not return a value. As you will see, methods may also return values.

Which variable size to use (db, dw, dd) with x86 assembly?

The full list is:

DB, DW, DD, DQ, DT, DDQ, and DO (used to declare initialized data in the output file.)

See: http://www.tortall.net/projects/yasm/manual/html/nasm-pseudop.html

They can be invoked in a wide range of ways: (Note: for Visual-Studio - use "h" instead of "0x" syntax - eg: not 0x55 but 55h instead):

    db      0x55                ; just the byte 0x55
    db 0x55,0x56,0x57 ; three bytes in succession
    db 'a',0x55 ; character constants are OK
    db 'hello',13,10,'$' ; so are string constants
    dw      0x1234              ; 0x34 0x12
    dw      'A'                 ; 0x41 0x00 (it's just a number)
    dw      'AB'                ; 0x41 0x42 (character constant)
    dw      'ABC'               ; 0x41 0x42 0x43 0x00 (string)
    dd      0x12345678          ; 0x78 0x56 0x34 0x12
    dq      0x1122334455667788  ; 0x88 0x77 0x66 0x55 0x44 0x33 0x22 0x11
    ddq     0x112233445566778899aabbccddeeff00
    ; 0x00 0xff 0xee 0xdd 0xcc 0xbb 0xaa 0x99
    ; 0x88 0x77 0x66 0x55 0x44 0x33 0x22 0x11
    do 0x112233445566778899aabbccddeeff00 ; same as previous
    dd      1.234567e20         ; floating-point constant
    dq      1.234567e20         ; double-precision float
    dt      1.234567e20         ; extended-precision float

DT does not accept numeric constants as operands, and DDQ does not accept float constants as operands. Any size larger than DD does not accept strings as operands.

Make new column in Panda dataframe by adding values from other columns

I wanted to add a comment responding to the error message n00b was getting but I don't have enough reputation. So my comment is an answer in case it helps anyone...

n00b said:

I get the following warning: A value is trying to be set on a copy of a slice from a DataFrame. Try using .loc[row_indexer,col_indexer] = value instead

He got this error because whatever manipulations he did to his dataframe prior to creating df['C'] created a view into the dataframe rather than a copy of it. The error didn't arise form the simple calculation df['C'] = df['A'] + df['B'] suggested by DeepSpace.

Have a look at the Returning a view versus a copy docs.

How to append strings using sprintf?

For safety (buffer overflow) I recommend to use snprintf()

const int MAX_BUF = 1000;
char* Buffer = malloc(MAX_BUF);

int length = 0;
length += snprintf(Buffer+length, MAX_BUF-length, "Hello World");
length += snprintf(Buffer+length, MAX_BUF-length, "Good Morning");
length += snprintf(Buffer+length, MAX_BUF-length, "Good Afternoon");

Clear text from textarea with selenium

Option a)

If you want to ensure keyboard events are fired, consider using sendKeys(CharSequence).

Example 1:

 from selenium.webdriver.common.keys import Keys
 # ...
 webElement.sendKeys(Keys.CONTROL + "a");
 webElement.sendKeys(Keys.DELETE);

Example 2:

 from selenium.webdriver.common.keys import Keys
 # ...
 webElement.sendKeys(Keys.BACK_SPACE); //do repeatedly, e.g. in while loop

WebElement

There are many ways to get the required WebElement, e.g.:

  • driver.find_element_by_id
  • driver.find_element_by_xpath
  • driver.find_element

Option b)

 webElement.clear();

If this element is a text entry element, this will clear the value.

Note that the events fired by this event may not be as you'd expect. In particular, we don't fire any keyboard or mouse events.

Local dependency in package.json

npm >= 2.0.0

This feature was implemented in the version 2.0.0 of npm. Example:

{
  "name": "baz",
  "dependencies": {
    "bar": "file:../foo/bar"
  }
}

Any of the following paths are also valid:

../foo/bar
~/foo/bar
./foo/bar
/foo/bar

The local package will be copied to the prefix (./node-modules).

npm < 2.0.0

Put somelocallib as dependency in your package.json as normal:

"dependencies": {
  "somelocallib": "0.0.x"
}

Then run npm link ../somelocallib and npm will install the version you're working on as a symlink.

Difference between a Seq and a List in Scala

As @daniel-c-sobral said, List extends the trait Seq and is an abstract class implemented by scala.collection.immutable.$colon$colon (or :: for short), but technicalities aside, mind that most of lists and seqs we use are initialized in the form of Seq(1, 2, 3) or List(1, 2, 3) which both return scala.collection.immutable.$colon$colon, hence one can write:

var x: scala.collection.immutable.$colon$colon[Int] = null
x = Seq(1, 2, 3).asInstanceOf[scala.collection.immutable.$colon$colon[Int]]
x = List(1, 2, 3).asInstanceOf[scala.collection.immutable.$colon$colon[Int]]

As a result, I'd argue than the only thing that matters are the methods you want to expose, for instance to prepend you can use :: from List that I find redundant with +: from Seq and I personally stick to Seq by default.

"405 method not allowed" in IIS7.5 for "PUT" method

I had this problem with WebDAV when hosting a MVC4 WebApi Project. I got around it by adding this line to the web.config:

<handlers>
  <remove name="WebDAV" />
  <add name="WebDAV" path="*" verb="*" modules="WebDAVModule"
      resourceType="Unspecified" requireAccess="None" />
</handlers>

So, what I do is some calculations, in my example the picture is 455px width and 111px height and we have to add some margins based on these dimensions:

  • left margin: (width - height)/2
  • top margin: (height - width)/2

in CSS:

margin: calc((455px - 111px)/2) calc((111px - 455px)/2);

Argument Exception "Item with Same Key has already been added"

If you want "insert or replace" semantics, use this syntax:

A[key] = value;     // <-- insert or replace semantics

It's more efficient and readable than calls involving "ContainsKey()" or "Remove()" prior to "Add()".

So in your case:

rct3Features[items[0]] = items[1];

What is the optimal algorithm for the game 2048?

I think I found an algorithm which works quite well, as I often reach scores over 10000, my personal best being around 16000. My solution does not aim at keeping biggest numbers in a corner, but to keep it in the top row.

Please see the code below:

while( !game_over ) {
    move_direction=up;
    if( !move_is_possible(up) ) {
        if( move_is_possible(right) && move_is_possible(left) ){
            if( number_of_empty_cells_after_moves(left,up) > number_of_empty_cells_after_moves(right,up) )
                move_direction = left;
            else
                move_direction = right;
        } else if ( move_is_possible(left) ){
            move_direction = left;
        } else if ( move_is_possible(right) ){
            move_direction = right;
        } else {
            move_direction = down;
        }
    }
    do_move(move_direction);
}

PHP - Debugging Curl

You can enable the CURLOPT_VERBOSE option:

curl_setopt($curlhandle, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, true);

When CURLOPT_VERBOSE is set, output is written to STDERR or the file specified using CURLOPT_STDERR. The output is very informative.

You can also use tcpdump or wireshark to watch the network traffic.

How to set time to midnight for current day?

Most of the suggested solutions can cause a 1 day error depending on the time associated with each date. If you are looking for an integer number of calendar days between to dates, regardless of the time associated with each date, I have found that this works well:

return (dateOne.Value.Date - dateTwo.Value.Date).Days;

When should I use semicolons in SQL Server?

You must use it.

The practice of using a semicolon to terminate statements is standard and in fact is a requirement in several other database platforms. SQL Server requires the semicolon only in particular cases—but in cases where a semicolon is not required, using one doesn’t cause problems. I strongly recommend that you adopt the practice of terminating all statements with a semicolon. Not only will doing this improve the readability of your code, but in some cases it can save you some grief. (When a semicolon is required and is not specified, the error message SQL Server produces is not always very clear.)

And most important:

The SQL Server documentation indicates that not terminating T-SQL statements with a semicolon is a deprecated feature. This means that the long-term goal is to enforce use of the semicolon in a future version of the product. That’s one more reason to get into the habit of terminating all of your statements, even where it’s currently not required.

HashMaps and Null values?

Acording to your first code snipet seems ok, but I've got similar behavior caused by bad programing. Have you checked the "options" variable is not null before the put call?

I'm using Struts2 (2.3.3) webapp and use a HashMap for displaying results. When is executed (in a class initialized by an Action class) :

if(value != null) pdfMap.put("date",value.toString());
else pdfMap.put("date","");

Got this error:

Seems the NullPointerException points to the put method (Line number 155), but the problem was that de Map hasn't been initialized before. It compiled ok since the variable is out of the method that set the value.

Parsing HTTP Response in Python

You can also use python's requests library instead.

import requests

url = 'http://www.quandl.com/api/v1/datasets/FRED/GDP.json'
response = requests.get(url)
dict = response.json()

Now you can manipulate the "dict" like a python dictionary.

How to convert an int to string in C?

If you want to output your structure into a file there is no need to convert any value beforehand. You can just use the printf format specification to indicate how to output your values and use any of the operators from printf family to output your data.

Using ffmpeg to encode a high quality video

A couple of things:

  • You need to set the video bitrate. I have never used minrate and maxrate so I don't know how exactly they work, but by setting the bitrate using the -b switch, I am able to get high quality video. You need to come up with a bitrate that offers a good tradeoff between compression and video quality. You may have to experiment with this because it all depends on the frame size, frame rate and the amount of motion in the content of your video. Keep in mind that DVD tends to be around 4-5 Mbit/s on average for 720x480, so I usually start from there and decide whether I need more or less and then just experiment. For example, you could add -b 5000k to the command line to get more or less DVD video bitrate.

  • You need to specify a video codec. If you don't, ffmpeg will default to MPEG-1 which is quite old and does not provide near the amount of compression as MPEG-4 or H.264. If your ffmpeg version is built with libx264 support, you can specify -vcodec libx264 as part of the command line. Otherwise -vcodec mpeg4 will also do a better job than MPEG-1, but not as well as x264.

  • There are a lot of other advanced options that will help you squeeze out the best quality at the lowest bitrates. Take a look here for some examples.

Sieve of Eratosthenes - Finding Primes Python

I just came up with this. It may not be the fastest, but I'm not using anything other than straight additions and comparisons. Of course, what stops you here is the recursion limit.

def nondivsby2():
    j = 1
    while True:
        j += 2
        yield j

def nondivsbyk(k, nondivs):
    j = 0
    for i in nondivs:
        while j < i:
            j += k
        if j > i:
            yield i

def primes():
    nd = nondivsby2()
    while True:
        p = next(nd)
        nd = nondivsbyk(p, nd)
        yield p

def main():
    for p in primes():
        print(p)

Find which rows have different values for a given column in Teradata SQL

Join the table with itself and give it two different aliases (A and B in the following example). This allows to compare different rows of the same table.

SELECT DISTINCT A.Id
FROM
    Address A
    INNER JOIN Address B
        ON A.Id = B.Id AND A.[Adress Code] < B.[Adress Code]
WHERE
    A.Address <> B.Address

The "less than" comparison < ensures that you get 2 different addresses and you don't get the same 2 address codes twice. Using "not equal" <> instead, would yield the codes as (1, 2) and (2, 1); each one of them for the A alias and the B alias in turn.

The join clause is responsible for the pairing of the rows where as the where-clause tests additional conditions.

The query above works with any address codes. If you want to compare addresses with specific address codes, you can change the query to

SELECT A.Id
FROM
    Address A
    INNER JOIN Address B
        ON A.Id = B.Id
WHERE
    A.[Adress Code] = 1 AND
    B.[Adress Code] = 2 AND
    A.Address <> B.Address

I imagine that this might be useful to find customers having a billing address (Adress Code = 1 as an example) differing from the delivery address (Adress Code = 2) .

Determine the line of code that causes a segmentation fault?

Lucas's answer about core dumps is good. In my .cshrc I have:

alias core 'ls -lt core; echo where | gdb -core=core -silent; echo "\n"'

to display the backtrace by entering 'core'. And the date stamp, to ensure I am looking at the right file :(.

Added: If there is a stack corruption bug, then the backtrace applied to the core dump is often garbage. In this case, running the program within gdb can give better results, as per the accepted answer (assuming the fault is easily reproducible). And also beware of multiple processes dumping core simultaneously; some OS's add the PID to the name of the core file.

Where and how is the _ViewStart.cshtml layout file linked?

From ScottGu's blog:

Starting with the ASP.NET MVC 3 Beta release, you can now add a file called _ViewStart.cshtml (or _ViewStart.vbhtml for VB) underneath the \Views folder of your project:

The _ViewStart file can be used to define common view code that you want to execute at the start of each View’s rendering. For example, we could write code within our _ViewStart.cshtml file to programmatically set the Layout property for each View to be the SiteLayout.cshtml file by default:

Because this code executes at the start of each View, we no longer need to explicitly set the Layout in any of our individual view files (except if we wanted to override the default value above).

Important: Because the _ViewStart.cshtml allows us to write code, we can optionally make our Layout selection logic richer than just a basic property set. For example: we could vary the Layout template that we use depending on what type of device is accessing the site – and have a phone or tablet optimized layout for those devices, and a desktop optimized layout for PCs/Laptops. Or if we were building a CMS system or common shared app that is used across multiple customers we could select different layouts to use depending on the customer (or their role) when accessing the site.

This enables a lot of UI flexibility. It also allows you to more easily write view logic once, and avoid repeating it in multiple places.

Also see this.

In a more general sense this ability of MVC framework to "know" about _Viewstart.cshtml is called "Coding by convention".

Convention over configuration (also known as coding by convention) is a software design paradigm which seeks to decrease the number of decisions that developers need to make, gaining simplicity, but not necessarily losing flexibility. The phrase essentially means a developer only needs to specify unconventional aspects of the application. For example, if there's a class Sale in the model, the corresponding table in the database is called “sales” by default. It is only if one deviates from this convention, such as calling the table “products_sold”, that one needs to write code regarding these names.

Wikipedia

There's no magic to it. Its just been written into the core codebase of the MVC framework and is therefore something that MVC "knows" about. That why you don't find it in the .config files or elsewhere; it's actually in the MVC code. You can however override to alter or null out these conventions.

What are forward declarations in C++?

one quick addendum regarding: usually you put those forward references into a header file belonging to the .c(pp) file where the function/variable etc. is implemented. in your example it would look like this: add.h:

extern int add(int a, int b);

the keyword extern states that the function is actually declared in an external file (could also be a library etc.). your main.c would look like this:

#include
#include "add.h"

int main()

How to convert int to float in python?

To convert an integer to a float in Python you can use the following:

float_version = float(int_version)

The reason you are getting 0 is that Python 2 returns an integer if the mathematical operation (here a division) is between two integers. So while the division of 144 by 314 is 0.45~~~, Python converts this to integer and returns just the 0 by eliminating all numbers after the decimal point.

Alternatively you can convert one of the numbers in any operation to a float since an operation between a float and an integer would return a float. In your case you could write float(144)/314 or 144/float(314). Another, less generic code, is to say 144.0/314. Here 144.0 is a float so it’s the same thing.

    public int add(int m,int n,int o){
        return super.add(super.add(m, n),0);
    }

}

public class SimpleInheritanceTest {
    public static void main(String[] a){
        Child child = new Child();
        child.add(10, 11);
    }
}

The add method in the Child class calls super.add to reuse the addition logic.

Change image onmouseover

Here is an example:

HTML code:

<img id="myImg" src="http://static.jquery.com/files/rocker/images/logo_jquery_215x53.gif"/>

JavaScript code:

$(document).ready(function() {
    $( "#myImg" ).mouseover(function(){
        $(this).attr("src", "http://www.jqueryui.com/images/logo.gif");
    });

    $( "#myImg" ).mouseout(function(){
        $(this).attr("src", "http://static.jquery.com/files/rocker/images/logo_jquery_215x53.gif");
    });
});

Edit: Sorry, your code was a bit strange. Now I understood what you were doing. ;) The hover method is better, of course.

Debugging iframes with Chrome developer tools

In the Developer Tools in Chrome, there is a bar along the top, called the Execution Context Selector (h/t felipe-sabino), just under the Elements, Network, Sources... tabs, that changes depending on the context of the current tab. When in the Console tab there is a dropdown in that bar that allows you to select the frame context in which the Console will operate. Select your frame in this drop down and you will find yourself in the appropriate frame context. :D

Displaying the Error Messages in Laravel after being Redirected from controller

If you want to load the view from the same controller you are on:

if ($validator->fails()) {
    return self::index($request)->withErrors($validator->errors());
}

And if you want to quickly display all errors but have a bit more control:

 @if ($errors->any())
     @foreach ($errors->all() as $error)
         <div>{{$error}}</div>
     @endforeach
 @endif

Detect Windows version in .net

Via Environment.OSVersion which "Gets an System.OperatingSystem object that contains the current platform identifier and version number."

C++ pointer to objects

No you can not do that, MyClass *myclass will define a pointer (memory for the pointer is allocated on stack) which is pointing at a random memory location. Trying to use this pointer will cause undefined behavior.

In C++, you can create objects either on stack or heap like this:

MyClass myClass;
myClass.DoSomething();

Above will allocate myClass on stack (the term is not there in the standard I think but I am using for clarity). The memory allocated for the object is automatically released when myClass variable goes out of scope.

Other way of allocating memory is to do a new . In that case, you have to take care of releasing the memory by doing delete yourself.

MyClass* p = new MyClass();
p->DoSomething();
delete p;

Remeber the delete part, else there will be memory leak.

I always prefer to use the stack allocated objects whenever possible as I don't have to be bothered about the memory management.

How to lock specific cells but allow filtering and sorting

I just came up with a tricky way to get almost the same functionality. Instead of protecting the sheet the normal way, use an event handler to undo anything the user tries to do.

Add the following to the worksheet's module:

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
    If Target.Locked = True Then
        Application.EnableEvents = False
        Application.Undo
        Application.EnableEvents = True
    End If
End Sub

If the user does anything to change a cell that's locked, the action will get immediately undone. The temporary disabling of events is to keep the undoing itself from triggering this event, resulting in an infinite loop.

Sorting and filtering do not trigger the Change event, so those functions remain enabled.

Note that this solution prevents changing or clearing cell contents, but does not prevent changing formats. A determined user could get around it by simply setting the cells to be unlocked.

How do I pass data to Angular routed components?

3rd approach is most common way to share data between components. you may inject the item service which you want to use in related component.

import { Injectable } from '@angular/core';
import { Predicate } from '../interfaces'

import * as _ from 'lodash';

@Injectable()
export class ItemsService {

    constructor() { }

    removeItemFromArray<T>(array: Array<T>, item: any) {
        _.remove(array, function (current) {
            //console.log(current);
            return JSON.stringify(current) === JSON.stringify(item);
        });
    }

    removeItems<T>(array: Array<T>, predicate: Predicate<T>) {
        _.remove(array, predicate);
    }

    setItem<T>(array: Array<T>, predicate: Predicate<T>, item: T) {
        var _oldItem = _.find(array, predicate);
        if(_oldItem){
            var index = _.indexOf(array, _oldItem);
            array.splice(index, 1, item);
        } else {
            array.push(item);
        }
    }

    addItemToStart<T>(array: Array<T>, item: any) {
        array.splice(0, 0, item);
    }

    getPropertyValues<T, R>(array: Array<T>, property : string) : R
    {
        var result = _.map(array, property);
        return <R><any>result;
    }

    getSerialized<T>(arg: any): T {
        return <T>JSON.parse(JSON.stringify(arg));
    }
}

export interface Predicate<T> {
    (item: T): boolean
}

self referential struct definition?

All previous answers are great , i just thought to give an insight on why a structure can't contain an instance of its own type (not a reference).

its very important to note that structures are 'value' types i.e they contain the actual value, so when you declare a structure the compiler has to decide how much memory to allocate to an instance of it, so it goes through all its members and adds up their memory to figure out the over all memory of the struct, but if the compiler found an instance of the same struct inside then this is a paradox (i.e in order to know how much memory struct A takes you have to decide how much memory struct A takes !).

But reference types are different, if a struct 'A' contains a 'reference' to an instance of its own type, although we don't know yet how much memory is allocated to it, we know how much memory is allocated to a memory address (i.e the reference).

Using C++ filestreams (fstream), how can you determine the size of a file?

You can seek until the end, then compute the difference:

std::streampos fileSize( const char* filePath ){

    std::streampos fsize = 0;
    std::ifstream file( filePath, std::ios::binary );

    fsize = file.tellg();
    file.seekg( 0, std::ios::end );
    fsize = file.tellg() - fsize;
    file.close();

    return fsize;
}

Call removeView() on the child's parent first

Kotlin Solution

Kotlin simplifies parent casting with as?, returning null if left side is null or cast fails.

(childView.parent as? ViewGroup)?.removeView(childView)

Kotlin Extension Solution

If you want to simplify this even further, you can add this extension.

childView.removeSelf()

fun View?.removeSelf() {
    this ?: return
    val parentView = parent as? ViewGroup ?: return
    parentView.removeView(this)
}

It will safely do nothing if this View is null, parent view is null, or parent view is not a ViewGroup

NOTE: If you also want safe removal of child views by parent, add this:

fun ViewGroup.removeViewSafe(toRemove: View) {
    if (contains(toRemove)) removeView(toRemove)
}

How to completely uninstall kubernetes

In my "Ubuntu 16.04", I use next steps to completely remove and clean Kubernetes (installed with "apt-get"):

kubeadm reset
sudo apt-get purge kubeadm kubectl kubelet kubernetes-cni kube*
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo rm -rf ~/.kube

And restart the computer.

Matplotlib subplots_adjust hspace so titles and xlabels don't overlap?

You can use plt.subplots_adjust to change the spacing between the subplots Link

subplots_adjust(left=None, bottom=None, right=None, top=None, wspace=None, hspace=None)

left = 0.125 # the left side of the subplots of the figure
right = 0.9 # the right side of the subplots of the figure
bottom = 0.1 # the bottom of the subplots of the figure
top = 0.9 # the top of the subplots of the figure
wspace = 0.2 # the amount of width reserved for blank space between subplots
hspace = 0.2 # the amount of height reserved for white space between subplots

Safely override C++ virtual functions

As far as I know, can't you just make it abstract?

class parent {
public:
  virtual void handle_event(int something) const = 0 {
    // boring default code
  }
};

I thought I read on www.parashift.com that you can actually implement an abstract method. Which makes sense to me personally, the only thing it does is force subclasses to implement it, no one said anything about it not being allowed to have an implementation itself.

How to fire AJAX request Periodically?

Yes, you could use either the JavaScript setTimeout() method or setInterval() method to invoke the code that you would like to run. Here's how you might do it with setTimeout:

function executeQuery() {
  $.ajax({
    url: 'url/path/here',
    success: function(data) {
      // do something with the return value here if you like
    }
  });
  setTimeout(executeQuery, 5000); // you could choose not to continue on failure...
}

$(document).ready(function() {
  // run the first time; all subsequent calls will take care of themselves
  setTimeout(executeQuery, 5000);
});

Using Mockito to mock classes with generic parameters

Create a test utility method. Specially useful if you need it for more than once.

@Test
public void testMyTest() {
    // ...
    Foo<Bar> mockFooBar = mockFoo();
    when(mockFooBar.getValue).thenReturn(new Bar());

    Foo<Baz> mockFooBaz = mockFoo();
    when(mockFooBaz.getValue).thenReturn(new Baz());

    Foo<Qux> mockFooQux = mockFoo();
    when(mockFooQux.getValue).thenReturn(new Qux());
    // ...
}

@SuppressWarnings("unchecked") // still needed :( but just once :)
private <T> Foo<T> mockFoo() {
    return mock(Foo.class);
}

Jquery Chosen plugin - dynamically populate list by Ajax

The solution of @Ashivad mostly fixed my problem, but I needed to make this one-line addition to prevent the input to be erased after the results dropdown is displayed:

in success callback of the autocomplete added this line after triggering chosen:updated:

$combosearchChosen.find('input').val(request.term);

Complete listing:

var $combosearch = $('[data-combosearch]');
if (!$combosearch.length) {
  return;
}

var options = $combosearch.data('options');
console.log('combosearch', $combosearch, options);

$combosearch.chosen({
  no_results_text: "Oops, nothing found!",
  width: "60%"
});

// actual chosen container
var $combosearchChosen = $combosearch.next();

$combosearchChosen.find('input').autocomplete({
  source: function( request, response ) {
    $.ajax({
      url: options.remote_source + "&query=" + request.term,
      dataType: "json",
      beforeSend: function(){
        $('ul.chosen-results').empty();
      },
      success: function( data ) {
        response( $.map( data, function( item, index ) {
          $combosearch.append('<option value="' + item.id + '">' + item.label + '</option>');
        }));
        $combosearch.trigger('chosen:updated');
        $combosearchChosen.find('input').val(request.term);
      }
    });
  }
});

80-characters / right margin line in Sublime Text 3

For this to work, your font also needs to be set to monospace.
If you think about it, lines can't otherwise line up perfectly perfectly.

This answer is detailed at sublime text forum:

This answer has links for choosing an appropriate font for your OS,
and gives an answer to an edge case of fonts not lining up.

On stackoverflow, see:

Michael Ruth's answer here: How to make ruler always be shown in Sublime text 2?

MattDMo's answer here: What is the default font of Sublime Text?

I have rulers set at the following:
30
50 (git commit message titles should be limited to 50 characters)
72 (git commit message details should be limited to 72 characters)
80 (Windows Command Console Window maxes out at 80 character width)

Other viewing environments that benefit from shorter lines: github: there is no word wrap when viewing a file online
So, I try to keep .js .md and other files at 70-80 characters.

How to round a numpy array?

Numpy provides two identical methods to do this. Either use

np.round(data, 2)

or

np.around(data, 2)

as they are equivalent.

See the documentation for more information.

Examples:

>>> import numpy as np
>>> a = np.array([0.015, 0.235, 0.112])
>>> np.round(a, 2)
array([0.02, 0.24, 0.11])
>>> np.around(a, 2)
array([0.02, 0.24, 0.11])
>>> np.round(a, 1)
array([0. , 0.2, 0.1])

How do you perform address validation?

For US addresses you can require a valid state, and verify that the zip is valid. You could even check that the zip code is in the right state, but beyond that I don't think there are many tests you could run that wouldn't provide a lot of false negatives.

What are you trying to do -- prevent simple mistakes or enforcing some kind of identity check?

Jquery Ajax Loading image

Description

You should do this using jQuery.ajaxStart and jQuery.ajaxStop.

  1. Create a div with your image
  2. Make it visible in jQuery.ajaxStart
  3. Hide it in jQuery.ajaxStop

Sample

<div id="loading" style="display:none">Your Image</div>

<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.5.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
    $(function () {
        var loading = $("#loading");
        $(document).ajaxStart(function () {
            loading.show();
        });

        $(document).ajaxStop(function () {
            loading.hide();
        });

        $("#startAjaxRequest").click(function () {
            $.ajax({
                url: "http://www.google.com",
                // ...
            });
        });
    });
</script>

<button id="startAjaxRequest">Start</button>

How to use both onclick and target="_blank"

The window.open method is prone to cause popup blockers to complain

A better approach is:

Put a form in the webpage with an id

<form action="theUrlToGoTo" method="post" target="yourTarget" id="yourFormName"> </form>

Then use:

function openYourRequiredPage() {
var theForm = document.getElementById("yourFormName");
theForm.submit();

}

and

onclick="Javascript: openYourRequiredPage()"

You can use

method="post"

or

method="get"

Getting values from JSON using Python

Using Python to extract a value from the provided Json

Working sample:-

import json
import sys

//load the data into an element
data={"test1" : "1", "test2" : "2", "test3" : "3"}

//dumps the json object into an element
json_str = json.dumps(data)

//load the json to a string
resp = json.loads(json_str)

//print the resp
print (resp)

//extract an element in the response
print (resp['test1'])

Multiple selector chaining in jQuery?

I think you might see slightly better performance by doing it this way:

$("#Create, #Edit").find(".myClass").plugin(){
    // Options
});

Android ImageView setImageResource in code

You can use this code:

// Create an array that matches any country to its id (as String):
String[][] countriesId = new String[NUMBER_OF_COUNTRIES_SUPPORTED][];

// Initialize the array, where the first column will be the country's name (in uppercase) and the second column will be its id (as String):
countriesId[0] = new String[] {"US", String.valueOf(R.drawable.us)};
countriesId[1] = new String[] {"FR", String.valueOf(R.drawable.fr)};
// and so on...

// And after you get the variable "countryCode":
int i;
for(i = 0; i<countriesId.length; i++) {
   if(countriesId[i][0].equals(countryCode))
      break;
}
// Now "i" is the index of the country

img.setImageResource(Integer.parseInt(countriesId[i][1]));

Keyboard shortcuts with jQuery

After studying some jQuery at Codeacademy I found a solution to bind a key with the animate property. The whole idea was to animate without scrolling to jump from one section to another. The example from Codeacademy was to move Mario through the DOM but I applied this for my website sections (CSS with 100% height). Here is a part of the code:

$(document).keydown(function(key) {
    switch(parseInt(key.which, 10)) {
        case 39:
            $('section').animate({top: "-=100%"}, 2000);
            break;
        case 37:
            $('section').animate({top: "+=100%"}, 2000);
            break;
        default:
            break;
    }
});

I think you could use this for any letter and property.

IPC performance: Named Pipe vs Socket

I would suggest you take the easy path first, carefully isolating the IPC mechanism so that you can change from socket to pipe, but I would definitely go with socket first. You should be sure IPC performance is a problem before preemptively optimizing.

And if you get in trouble because of IPC speed, I think you should consider switching to shared memory rather than going to pipe.

If you want to do some transfer speed testing, you should try socat, which is a very versatile program that allows you to create almost any kind of tunnel.

What is the maximum number of edges in a directed graph with n nodes?

Directed graph:

Question: What's the maximum number of edges in a directed graph with n vertices?

  • Assume there are no self-loops.
  • Assume there there is at most one edge from a given start vertex to a given end vertex.

Each edge is specified by its start vertex and end vertex. There are n choices for the start vertex. Since there are no self-loops, there are n-1 choices for the end vertex. Multiplying these together counts all possible choices.

Answer: n(n-1)

Undirected graph

Question: What's the maximum number of edges in an undirected graph with n vertices?

  • Assume there are no self-loops.
  • Assume there there is at most one edge from a given start vertex to a given end vertex.

In an undirected graph, each edge is specified by its two endpoints and order doesn't matter. The number of edges is therefore the number of subsets of size 2 chosen from the set of vertices. Since the set of vertices has size n, the number of such subsets is given by the binomial coefficient C(n,2) (also known as "n choose 2"). Using the formula for binomial coefficients, C(n,2) = n(n-1)/2.

Answer: (n*(n-1))/2

how to define variable in jquery

jQuery is just a javascript library that makes some extra stuff available when writing javascript - so there is no reason to use jQuery for declaring variables. Use "regular" javascript:

var name = document.myForm.txtname.value;
alert(name);

EDIT: As Canavar points out in his example, it is also possible to use jQuery to get the form value:

var name = $('#txtname').val(); // Yes, it's called .val(), not .value()

given that the text box has its id attribute set to txtname. However, you don't need to use jQuery just because you can.

What's the fastest way to do a bulk insert into Postgres?

PostgreSQL has a guide on how to best populate a database initially, and they suggest using the COPY command for bulk loading rows. The guide has some other good tips on how to speed up the process, like removing indexes and foreign keys before loading the data (and adding them back afterwards).

How do I Convert DateTime.now to UTC in Ruby?

Unfortunately, the DateTime class doesn't have the convenience methods available in the Time class to do this. You can convert any DateTime object into UTC like this:

d = DateTime.now
d.new_offset(Rational(0, 24))

You can switch back from UTC to localtime using:

d.new_offset(DateTime.now.offset)

where d is a DateTime object in UTC time. If you'd like these as convenience methods, then you can create them like this:

class DateTime
  def localtime
    new_offset(DateTime.now.offset)
  end

  def utc
    new_offset(Rational(0, 24))
  end
end

You can see this in action in the following irb session:

d = DateTime.now.new_offset(Rational(-4, 24))
 => #<DateTime: 106105391484260677/43200000000,-1/6,2299161>
1.8.7 :185 > d.to_s
 => "2012-08-03T15:42:48-04:00"
1.8.7 :186 > d.localtime.to_s
 => "2012-08-03T12:42:48-07:00"
1.8.7 :187 > d.utc.to_s
 => "2012-08-03T19:42:48+00:00"

As you can see above, the initial DateTime object has a -04:00 offset (Eastern Time). I'm in Pacific Time with a -07:00 offset. Calling localtime as described previously properly converts the DateTime object into local time. Calling utc on the object properly converts it to a UTC offset.

Is there a JavaScript function that can pad a string to get to a determined length?

String.prototype.padLeft = function(pad) {
        var s = Array.apply(null, Array(pad)).map(function() { return "0"; }).join('') + this;
        return s.slice(-1 * Math.max(this.length, pad));
    };

usage:

  1. "123".padLeft(2) returns: "123"
  2. "12".padLeft(2) returns: "12"
  3. "1".padLeft(2) returns: "01"

CSS flex, how to display one item on first line and two on the next line

You can do something like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.flex {_x000D_
  display: flex;_x000D_
  flex-direction: row;_x000D_
  flex-wrap: wrap;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
.flex>div {_x000D_
  flex: 1 0 50%;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
.flex>div:first-child {_x000D_
  flex: 0 1 100%;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class="flex">_x000D_
  <div>Hi</div>_x000D_
  <div>Hello</div>_x000D_
  <div>Hello 2</div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Here is a demo: http://jsfiddle.net/73574emn/1/

This model relies on the line-wrap after one "row" is full. Since we set the first item's flex-basis to be 100% it fills the first row completely. Special attention on the flex-wrap: wrap;

What is the difference between persist() and merge() in JPA and Hibernate?

The most important difference is this:

  • In case of persist method, if the entity that is to be managed in the persistence context, already exists in persistence context, the new one is ignored. (NOTHING happened)

  • But in case of merge method, the entity that is already managed in persistence context will be replaced by the new entity (updated) and a copy of this updated entity will return back. (from now on any changes should be made on this returned entity if you want to reflect your changes in persistence context)

Capture the screen shot using .NET

It's certainly possible to grab a screenshot using the .NET Framework. The simplest way is to create a new Bitmap object and draw into that using the Graphics.CopyFromScreen method.

Sample code:

using (Bitmap bmpScreenCapture = new Bitmap(Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.Width,
                                            Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.Height))
using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmpScreenCapture))
{
    g.CopyFromScreen(Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.X,
                     Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.Y,
                     0, 0,
                     bmpScreenCapture.Size,
                     CopyPixelOperation.SourceCopy);
}

Caveat: This method doesn't work properly for layered windows. Hans Passant's answer here explains the more complicated method required to get those in your screen shots.

Javascript : natural sort of alphanumerical strings

The most fully-featured library to handle this as of 2019 seems to be natural-orderby.

const { orderBy } = require('natural-orderby')

const unordered = [
  '123asd',
  '19asd',
  '12345asd',
  'asd123',
  'asd12'
]

const ordered = orderBy(unordered)

// [ '19asd',
//   '123asd',
//   '12345asd',
//   'asd12',
//   'asd123' ]

It not only takes arrays of strings, but also can sort by the value of a certain key in an array of objects. It can also automatically identify and sort strings of: currencies, dates, currency, and a bunch of other things.

Surprisingly, it's also only 1.6kB when gzipped.

What are the differences between git branch, fork, fetch, merge, rebase and clone?

A clone is simply a copy of a repository. On the surface, its result is equivalent to svn checkout, where you download source code from some other repository. The difference between centralized VCS like Subversion and DVCSs like Git is that in Git, when you clone, you are actually copying the entire source repository, including all the history and branches. You now have a new repository on your machine and any commits you make go into that repository. Nobody will see any changes until you push those commits to another repository (or the original one) or until someone pulls commits from your repository, if it is publicly accessible.

A branch is something that is within a repository. Conceptually, it represents a thread of development. You usually have a master branch, but you may also have a branch where you are working on some feature xyz, and another one to fix bug abc. When you have checked out a branch, any commits you make will stay on that branch and not be shared with other branches until you merge them with or rebase them onto the branch in question. Of course, Git seems a little weird when it comes to branches until you look at the underlying model of how branches are implemented. Rather than explain it myself (I've already said too much, methinks), I'll link to the "computer science" explanation of how Git models branches and commits, taken from the Git website:

http://eagain.net/articles/git-for-computer-scientists/

A fork isn't a Git concept really, it's more a political/social idea. That is, if some people aren't happy with the way a project is going, they can take the source code and work on it themselves separate from the original developers. That would be considered a fork. Git makes forking easy because everyone already has their own "master" copy of the source code, so it's as simple as cutting ties with the original project developers and doesn't require exporting history from a shared repository like you might have to do with SVN.

EDIT: since I was not aware of the modern definition of "fork" as used by sites such as GitHub, please take a look at the comments and also Michael Durrant's answer below mine for more information.

Adding values to an array in java

You have not one, but many mistakes. It should be:

int[] tall = new int[28123];

for (int j=0;j<28123;j++){
    tall[j] = j+1;
}

Your code is putting a 0 in all the positions of the array.

Morover, it'll throw an exception, because the last index of the array is 28123-1 (arrays in Java start in 0!).

How to install toolbox for MATLAB

first, you need to find the toolbox that you need. There are many people developing 3rd party toolboxes for Matlab, so there isn't just one single place where you can find "the image processing toolbox". That said, a good place to start looking is the Matlab Central which is a Mathworks-run site for exchanging all kinds of Matlab-related material.

Once you find a toolbox you want, it will be in some compressed format, and its developers might have a "readme" file that details on how to install it. If it isn't the case, a generic way to attempt installation is to place the toolbox in any directory on your drive, and then add it to Matlab path, e.g., going to File -> Set Path... -> Add Folder or Add with Subfolders (I'm writing for memory but this is definitely close).

Otherwise, you can extract all .m files in your working directory, if you don't want to use downloaded toolbox in more than one project.

Declare variable in table valued function

There are two flavors of table valued functions. One that is just a select statement and one that can have more rows than just a select statement.

This can not have a variable:

create function Func() returns table
as
return
select 10 as ColName

You have to do like this instead:

create function Func()
returns @T table(ColName int)
as
begin
  declare @Var int
  set @Var = 10
  insert into @T(ColName) values (@Var)
  return
end

jQuery first child of "this"

please use it like this first thing give a class name to tag p like "myp"

then on use the following code

$(document).ready(function() {
    $(".myp").click(function() {
        $(this).children(":first").toggleClass("classname"); // this will access the span.
    })
})

Finding smallest value in an array most efficiently

If you want to be really efficient and you have enough time to spent, use SIMD instruction.

You can compare several pairs in one instruction:

r0 := min(a0, b0)
r1 := min(a1, b1)
r2 := min(a2, b2)
r3 := min(a3, b3)
__m64 _mm_min_pu8(__m64 a , __m64 b );

Today every computer supports it. Other already have written min function for you:

http://smartdata.usbid.com/datasheets/usbid/2001/2001-q1/i_minmax.pdf

or use already ready library.

How can I check if a command exists in a shell script?

which <cmd>

also see options which supports for aliases if applicable to your case.

Example

$ which foobar
which: no foobar in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/cygdrive/c/Program Files (x86)/PC Connectivity Solution:/cygdrive/c/Windows/system32/System32/WindowsPowerShell/v1.0:/cygdrive/d/Program Files (x86)/Graphviz 2.28/bin:/cygdrive/d/Program Files (x86)/GNU/GnuPG
$ if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then echo "foobar is found in PATH"; else echo "foobar is NOT found in PATH, of course it does not mean it is not installed."; fi
foobar is NOT found in PATH, of course it does not mean it is not installed.
$

PS: Note that not everything that's installed may be in PATH. Usually to check whether something is "installed" or not one would use installation related commands relevant to the OS. E.g. rpm -qa | grep -i "foobar" for RHEL.

og_date.value would only work if the date were stored as a property on the og_date object. Such as: var og_date = {}; og_date.value="2012-10-01"; In that case, your original console.log would work.

Python not working in the command line of git bash

  1. python.exe -i works but got issues in exiting from the interactive mode by sending "^Z" (CTRL+Z). So, seem better to use winpty python.exe in Git Bash for Windows.

  2. Use ~/bin directory to make a wrap/reference file (like ~/bin/python) which will be accessible everywhere (you may use different version reference like ~/bin/python37).
    Code inside the file:

#!/usr/bin/env bash
# maybe declare env vars here like
# export PYTHONHOME=/c/Users/%USERNAME%/.python/Python36
# export PATH="${PATH}:/c/Users/%USERNAME%/.python/Python36"

# replace %USERNAME%,
# or use "~" instead of "/c/Users/%USERNAME%" if it works
winpty /c/Users/%USERNAME%/.python/Python36/python.exe ${@}

I just don't like these "magic" aliases which you're always forgetting where it's coming from, and sometimes leads to issues in some cases.

  1. Use ~/bin/python file and -i parameter:
#!/usr/bin/env bash
if [ -z "${@}" ]; then

Delete duplicate elements from an array

Try following from Removing duplicates from an Array(simple):

Array.prototype.removeDuplicates = function (){
  var temp=new Array();
  this.sort();
  for(i=0;i<this.length;i++){
    if(this[i]==this[i+1]) {continue}
    temp[temp.length]=this[i];
  }
  return temp;
}

Edit:

This code doesn't need sort:

Array.prototype.removeDuplicates = function (){
  var temp=new Array();
  label:for(i=0;i<this.length;i++){
        for(var j=0; j<temp.length;j++ ){//check duplicates
            if(temp[j]==this[i])//skip if already present
               continue label;
        }
        temp[temp.length] = this[i];
  }
  return temp;
 }

(But not a tested code!)

Setting environment variables on OS X

Update (2017-08-04)

As of (at least) macOS 10.12.6 (Sierra) this method seems to have stopped working for Apache httpd (for both the system and the user option of launchctl config). Other programs do not seem to be affected. It is conceivable that this is a bug in httpd.

Original answer

This concerns OS X 10.10+ (10.11+ specifically due to rootless mode where /usr/bin is no longer writeable).

I've read in multiple places that using launchctl setenv PATH <new path> to set the PATH variable does not work due to a bug in OS X (which seems true from personal experience). I found that there's another way the PATH can be set for applications not launched from the shell:

sudo launchctl config user path <new path>

This option is documented in the launchctl man page:

config system | user parameter value

Sets persistent configuration information for launchd(8) domains. Only the system domain and user domains may be configured. The location of the persistent storage is an implementation detail, and changes to that storage should only be made through this subcommand. A reboot is required for changes made through this subcommand to take effect.

[...]

path

Sets the PATH environment variable for all services within the target domain to the string value. The string value should conform to the format outlined for the PATH environment variable in environ(7). Note that if a service specifies its own PATH, the service-specific environment variable will take precedence.

NOTE: This facility cannot be used to set general environment variables for all services within the domain. It is intentionally scoped to the PATH environment vari- able and nothing else for security reasons.

I have confirmed this to work with a GUI application started from Finder (which uses getenv to get PATH). Note that you only have to do this once and the change will be persistent through reboots.

How to bind bootstrap popover on dynamic elements

Update

If your popover is going to have a selector that is consistent then you can make use of selector property of popover constructor.

var popOverSettings = {
    placement: 'bottom',
    container: 'body',
    html: true,
    selector: '[rel="popover"]', //Sepcify the selector here
    content: function () {
        return $('#popover-content').html();
    }
}

$('body').popover(popOverSettings);

Demo

Other ways:

  1. (Standard Way) Bind the popover again to the new items being inserted. Save the popoversettings in an external variable.
  2. Use Mutation Event/Mutation Observer to identify if a particular element has been inserted on to the ul or an element.

Source

var popOverSettings = { //Save the setting for later use as well
    placement: 'bottom',
    container: 'body',
    html: true,
    //content:" <div style='color:red'>This is your div content</div>"
    content: function () {
        return $('#popover-content').html();
    }

}

$('ul').on('DOMNodeInserted', function () { //listed for new items inserted onto ul
    $(event.target).popover(popOverSettings);
});

$("button[rel=popover]").popover(popOverSettings);
$('.pop-Add').click(function () {
    $('ul').append("<li class='project-name'>     <a>project name 2        <button class='pop-function' rel='popover'></button>     </a>   </li>");
});

But it is not recommended to use DOMNodeInserted Mutation Event for performance issues as well as support. This has been deprecated as well. So your best bet would be to save the setting and bind after you update with new element.

Demo

Another recommended way is to use MutationObserver instead of MutationEvent according to MDN, but again support in some browsers are unknown and performance a concern.

MutationObserver = window.MutationObserver || window.WebKitMutationObserver;
// create an observer instance
var observer = new MutationObserver(function (mutations) {
    mutations.forEach(function (mutation) {
        $(mutation.addedNodes).popover(popOverSettings);
    });
});

// configuration of the observer:
var config = {
     attributes: true,
     childList: true,
     characterData: true
};

// pass in the target node, as well as the observer options
observer.observe($('ul')[0], config);

How to write multiple conditions of if-statement in Robot Framework

You should use small caps "or" and "and" instead of OR and AND.

And beware also the spaces/tabs between keywords and arguments (you need at least two spaces).

Here is a code sample with your three keywords working fine:

Here is the file ts.txt:

  *** test cases ***
  mytest
    ${color} =  set variable  Red
    Run Keyword If '${color}' == 'Red' log to console \nexecuted with single condition
    Run Keyword If '${color}' == 'Red' or '${color}' == 'Blue' or '${color}' == 'Pink' log to console \nexecuted with multiple or

    ${color} =  set variable  Blue
    ${Size} =  set variable  Small
    ${Simple} =  set variable  Simple
    ${Design} =  set variable  Simple
    Run Keyword If '${color}' == 'Blue' and '${Size}' == 'Small' and '${Design}' != '${Simple}' log to console \nexecuted with multiple and

    ${Size} =  set variable  XL
    ${Design} =  set variable  Complicated
    Run Keyword Unless '${color}' == 'Black' or '${Size}' == 'Small' or '${Design}' == 'Simple' log to console \nexecuted with unless and multiple or

and here is what I get when I execute it:

$ pybot ts.txt
==============================================================================
Ts
==============================================================================
mytest                                                                .
executed with single condition
executed with multiple or
executed with unless and multiple or
mytest                                                                | PASS |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unexpected end of file error

You did forget to include stdafx.h in your source (as I cannot see it your code). If you didn't, then make sure #include "stdafx.h" is the first line in your .cpp file, otherwise you will see the same error even if you've included "stdafx.h" in your source file (but not in the very beginning of the file).

Declare a dictionary inside a static class

The problem with your initial example was primarily due to the use of const rather than static; you can't create a non-null const reference in C#.

I believe this would also have worked:

public static class ErrorCode
{
    public static IDictionary<string, string> ErrorCodeDic
        = new Dictionary<string, string>()
            { {"1", "User name or password problem"} };
}

Also, as Y Low points out, adding readonly is a good idea as well, and none of the modifiers discussed here will prevent the dictionary itself from being modified.

Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider in Visual Studio 2010 Professional

I have seen reports of people having and additional, self terminating node in the machine.config file. Removing it resolved their issue. machine.config is found in \Windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\vXXXX\Config. You could have a multitude of config files based on how many versions of the framework are installed, including 32 and 64 bit variants.

replace special characters in a string python

str.replace is the wrong function for what you want to do (apart from it being used incorrectly). You want to replace any character of a set with a space, not the whole set with a single space (the latter is what replace does). You can use translate like this:

removeSpecialChars = z.translate ({ord(c): " " for c in "!@#$%^&*()[]{};:,./<>?\|`~-=_+"})

This creates a mapping which maps every character in your list of special characters to a space, then calls translate() on the string, replacing every single character in the set of special characters with a space.

How to reference a local XML Schema file correctly?

How to print a Groovy variable in Jenkins?

You shouldn't use ${varName} when you're outside of strings, you should just use varName. Inside strings you use it like this; echo "this is a string ${someVariable}";. Infact you can place an general java expression inside of ${...}; echo "this is a string ${func(arg1, arg2)}.

The value violated the integrity constraints for the column

Delete empty rows from Excel after your last row of data!

Some times empty rows in Excel are still considered as data, therefore trying to import them in a table with one or more non nullable columns violates the constrains of the column.

Solution: select all of the empty rows on your sheet, even those after your last row of data, and click delete rows.

Obviously, if some of your data really does vioalte any of your table's constraints, then just fix your data to match the rules of your database..

upstream defines a cluster that you can proxy requests to. It's commonly used for defining either a web server cluster for load balancing, or an app server cluster for routing / load balancing.

How to select all instances of a variable and edit variable name in Sublime

Despite much effort, I have not found a built-in or plugin-assisted way to do what you're trying to do. I completely agree that it should be possible, as the program can distinguish foo from buffoon when you first highlight it, but no one seems to know a way of doing it.

However, here are some useful key combos for selecting words in Sublime Text 2:

Ctrl?G - selects all occurrences of the current word (AltF3 on Windows/Linux)

?D - selects the next instance of the current word (CtrlD)

  • ?K,?D - skips the current instance and goes on to select the next one (CtrlK,CtrlD)
  • ?U - "soft undo", moves back to the previous selection (CtrlU)

?E, ?H - uses the current selection as the "Find" field in Find and Replace (CtrlE,CtrlH)

Remove Duplicate objects from JSON Array

Reviving an old question, but I wanted to post an iteration on @adeneo's answer. That answer is completely general, but for this use case it could be more efficient (it's slow on my machine with an array of a few thousand objects). If you know the specific properties of the objects you need to compare, just compare them directly:

var sl = standardsList;
var out = [];

for (var i = 0, l = sl.length; i < l; i++) {
    var unique = true;
    for (var j = 0, k = out.length; j < k; j++) {
        if ((sl[i].Grade === out[j].Grade) && (sl[i].Domain === out[j].Domain)) {
            unique = false;
        }
    }
    if (unique) {
        out.push(sl[i]);
    }
}

console.log(sl.length); // 10
console.log(out.length); // 5
