Update select2 data without rebuilding the control

For Select2 4.X

var instance = $('#select2Container').data('select2');
var searchVal = instance.dropdown.$search.val();
instance.trigger('query', {term:searchVal});

How do I change selected value of select2 dropdown with JqGrid?

// Set up the Select2 control
$('#mySelect2').select2({
    ajax: {
        url: '/api/students'
    }
});

// Fetch the preselected item, and add to the control
var studentSelect = $('#mySelect2');
$.ajax({
    type: 'GET',
    url: '/api/students/s/' + studentId
}).then(function (data) {
    // create the option and append to Select2
    var option = new Option(data.full_name, data.id, true, true);
    studentSelect.append(option).trigger('change');

    // manually trigger the `select2:select` event
    studentSelect.trigger({
        type: 'select2:select',
        params: {
            data: data
        }
    });

UITableView Cell selected Color?

Swift 4.x

To Change the selection background Colour to anyColour use Swift Extension

Create UITableView Cell extension as below

extension UITableViewCell{

    func removeCellSelectionColour(){
        let clearView = UIView()
        clearView.backgroundColor = UIColor.clear
        UITableViewCell.appearance().selectedBackgroundView = clearView
    }

}

Then call removeCellSelectionColour() with cell instance.

How to get Selected Text from select2 when using <input>

Used this for show text

var data = $('#id-selected-input').select2('data');
data.forEach(function (item) {
    alert(item.text);
})

set the width of select2 input (through Angular-ui directive)

On a recent project built using Bootstrap 4, I had tried all of the above methods but nothing worked. My approach was by editing the library CSS using jQuery to get 100% on the table.

 // * Select2 4.0.7

$('.select2-multiple').select2({
    // theme: 'bootstrap4', //Doesn't work
    // width:'100%', //Doesn't work
    width: 'resolve'
});

//The Fix
$('.select2-w-100').parent().find('span')
    .removeClass('select2-container')
    .css("width", "100%")
    .css("flex-grow", "1")
    .css("box-sizing", "border-box")
    .css("display", "inline-block")
    .css("margin", "0")
    .css("position", "relative")
    .css("vertical-align", "middle")

Quick way to clear all selections on a multiselect enabled <select> with jQuery?

You can pass an empty array to unselect all the selection. Here goes an example. From documentation

val() allows you to pass an array of element values. This is useful when working on a jQuery object containing elements like , , and s inside of a . In this case, the inputs and the options having a value that matches one of the elements of the array will be checked or selected while those having a value that doesn't match one of the elements of the array will be unchecked or unselected, depending on the type.

jQuery Validate Required Select

It's simple, you need to get the Select field value and it cannot be "default".

if($('select').val()=='default'){
    alert('Please, choose an option');
    return false;
}

UITableview: How to Disable Selection for Some Rows but Not Others

You need to do something like the following to disable cell selection within the cellForRowAtIndexPath method:

[cell setSelectionStyle:UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone];
[cell setUserInteractionEnabled:NO];

To show the cell grayed out, put the following within the tableView:WillDisplayCell:forRowAtIndexPath method:

[cell setAlpha:0.5];

One method allows you to control the interactivity, the other allows you to control the UI appearance.

How can I pass selected row to commandLink inside dataTable or ui:repeat?

As to the cause, the <f:attribute> is specific to the component itself (populated during view build time), not to the iterated row (populated during view render time).

There are several ways to achieve the requirement.

  1. If your servletcontainer supports a minimum of Servlet 3.0 / EL 2.2, then just pass it as an argument of action/listener method of UICommand component or AjaxBehavior tag. E.g.

     <h:commandLink action="#{bean.insert(item.id)}" value="insert" />

    In combination with:

     public void insert(Long id) {
         // ...
     }

    This only requires that the datamodel is preserved for the form submit request. Best is to put the bean in the view scope by @ViewScoped.

    You can even pass the entire item object:

     <h:commandLink action="#{bean.insert(item)}" value="insert" />

    with:

     public void insert(Item item) {
         // ...
     }

    On Servlet 2.5 containers, this is also possible if you supply an EL implementation which supports this, like as JBoss EL. For configuration detail, see this answer.

  2. Use <f:param> in UICommand component. It adds a request parameter.

     <h:commandLink action="#{bean.insert}" value="insert">
         <f:param name="id" value="#{item.id}" />
     </h:commandLink>

    If your bean is request scoped, let JSF set it by @ManagedProperty

     @ManagedProperty(value="#{param.id}")
     private Long id; // +setter

    Or if your bean has a broader scope or if you want more fine grained validation/conversion, use <f:viewParam> on the target view, see also f:viewParam vs @ManagedProperty:

     <f:viewParam name="id" value="#{bean.id}" required="true" />

    Either way, this has the advantage that the datamodel doesn't necessarily need to be preserved for the form submit (for the case that your bean is request scoped).

  3. Use <f:setPropertyActionListener> in UICommand component. The advantage is that this removes the need for accessing the request parameter map when the bean has a broader scope than the request scope.

     <h:commandLink action="#{bean.insert}" value="insert">
         <f:setPropertyActionListener target="#{bean.id}" value="#{item.id}" />
     </h:commandLink>

    In combination with

     private Long id; // +setter

    It'll be just available by property id in action method. This only requires that the datamodel is preserved for the form submit request. Best is to put the bean in the view scope by @ViewScoped.

  4. Bind the datatable value to DataModel<E> instead which in turn wraps the items.

     <h:dataTable value="#{bean.model}" var="item">

    with

     private transient DataModel<Item> model;

     public DataModel<Item> getModel() {
         if (model == null) {
             model = new ListDataModel<Item>(items);
         }
         return model;
     }

    (making it transient and lazily instantiating it in the getter is mandatory when you're using this on a view or session scoped bean since DataModel doesn't implement Serializable)

    Then you'll be able to access the current row by DataModel#getRowData() without passing anything around (JSF determines the row based on the request parameter name of the clicked command link/button).

     public void insert() {
         Item item = model.getRowData();
         Long id = item.getId();
         // ...
     }

    This also requires that the datamodel is preserved for the form submit request. Best is to put the bean in the view scope by @ViewScoped.

  5. Use Application#evaluateExpressionGet() to programmatically evaluate the current #{item}.

     public void insert() {
         FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
         Item item = context.getApplication().evaluateExpressionGet(context, "#{item}", Item.class);
         Long id = item.getId();
         // ...
     }

Which way to choose depends on the functional requirements and whether the one or the other offers more advantages for other purposes. I personally would go ahead with #1 or, when you'd like to support servlet 2.5 containers as well, with #2.

UIButton: set image for selected-highlighted state

Xamarin C#

Doing bitwise OR doesn't work for some reason

button.SetImage(new UIImage("ImageNormal"), UIControlState.Normal);
button.SetImage(new UIImage("ImagePressed"), UIControlState.Selected | UIControlState.Highlighted | UIControlState.Focused);

The following works

button.SetImage(new UIImage("ImageNormal"), UIControlState.Normal);
button.SetImage(new UIImage("ImagePressed"), UIControlState.Selected);
button.SetImage(new UIImage("ImagePressed"), UIControlState.Highlighted);
button.SetImage(new UIImage("ImagePressed"), UIControlState.Focused);

jQuery UI tabs. How to select a tab based on its id not based on index

None of these answers worked for me. I just by-passed the problem. I did this:

$('#tabs-tab1').removeClass('tabs-hide');
$('#tabs-tab2').addClass('tabs-hide');
$('#container-tabs a[href="#tabs-tab2"]').parent().removeClass('tabs-selected');
$('#container-tabs a[href="#tabs-tab1"]').parent().addClass('tabs-selected');

It works great.

How To Get Selected Value From UIPickerView

You can get the text of the selected item in any section of the picker using the same function that the pickerView does, from your custom ViewController class:

-(NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component

using the selected item

[myPickerView selectedRowInComponent:0]

so to set the text of a label in a custom cell using the currently selected value from the 2nd section of myPickerView (a property of your view controller probably)

[cell.label setText:[self pickerView:myPickerView titleForRow:[myPickerView selectedRowInComponent:1] forComponent:1]];

Just change both :1s to :2s, etc for each section

jQuery UI Datepicker - Multiple Date Selections

Just had a requirement for this; here is the code I used. Apply it to an input as normal, I am using the class typeof__multidatepicker.

It maintains a list of unique dates in the owner textbox. You can also type in there, this is not validated - obviously the server needs to check the resulting list!

I tried to get it to work with the datepicker's linked textbox but failed, so it creates an invisible input for the datepicker (it doesn't seem to work with display:none, hence the odd styling).

It is positioned over the main input so the datepicker appears in the correct place, and is 1px in width so you can still type into the main textbox.

It's for an intranet with a fixed platform so I haven't done much cross-browser testing.

Remember to include the handler on the body or it works confusingly.

$('.typeof__multidatepicker').each(
    function()
    {
        var _this = $(this);

        var picker = $('<input tabindex="-1" style="position:absolute;opacity:0;width:1px" type="text"/>');

        picker.insertAfter(this)
        .position({my:'left top', at:'left top', of:this})
        .datepicker({
            beforeShow:
                function()
                {
                    _this.data('mdp-popped', true);
                },
            onClose:
                function(dt, dpicker)
                {
                    var date = $.datepicker.formatDate(picker.datepicker('option', 'dateFormat'), picker.datepicker('getDate'));
                    var hash = {};
                    var curr = _this.val() ? _this.val().split(/\s*,\s*/) : [];
                    var a = [];

                    $.each(curr,
                        function()
                        {
                            if(this != '' && !/^\s+$/.test(this))
                            {
                                a.push(this);
                                hash[this] = true;
                            }
                        }
                    );

                    if(date && !hash[date])

Is there a SELECT ... INTO OUTFILE equivalent in SQL Server Management Studio?

In SQL Management Studio you can:

  1. Right click on the result set grid, select 'Save Result As...' and save in.

  2. On a tool bar toggle 'Result to Text' button. This will prompt for file name on each query run.

If you need to automate it, use bcp tool.

How to redirect to another page in node.js

If the user successful login into your Node app, I'm thinking that you are using Express, isn't ? Well you can redirect easy by using res.redirect. Like:

app.post('/auth', function(req, res) {
  // Your logic and then redirect
  res.redirect('/user_profile');
});

How to get "their" changes in the middle of conflicting Git rebase?

You want to use:

git checkout --ours foo/bar.java
git add foo/bar.java

If you rebase a branch feature_x against main (i.e. running git rebase main while on branch feature_x), during rebasing ours refers to main and theirs to feature_x.

As pointed out in the git-rebase docs:

Note that a rebase merge works by replaying each commit from the working branch on top of the branch. Because of this, when a merge conflict happens, the side reported as ours is the so-far rebased series, starting with <upstream>, and theirs is the working branch. In other words, the sides are swapped.

CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE `mydb`.`mytable`(
    `product_name` string,

    `brand` string,
    `color` string,
    `description` string,

PARTITIONED BY (
    `seller_id` string)
ROW FORMAT SERDE
    'org.apache.hadoop.hive.serde2.OpenCSVSerde'
WITH SERDEPROPERTIES (
    'separatorChar' = '\t',
    'quoteChar' = '"',
    'escapeChar' = '\\')
STORED AS INPUTFORMAT
    'org.apache.hadoop.mapred.TextInputFormat'
OUTPUTFORMAT
    'org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.io.HiveIgnoreKeyTextOutputFormat'
LOCATION
    'hdfs://namenode.com:port/data/mydb/mytable'
TBLPROPERTIES (
    'serialization.null.format' = '',
    'skip.header.line.count' = '1')

With this, you have total control over the separator, quote character, escape character, null handling and header handling.

VarBinary vs Image SQL Server Data Type to Store Binary Data?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/data-types/ntext-text-and-image-transact-sql

image

Variable-length binary data from 0 through 2^31-1 (2,147,483,647) bytes. Still it IS supported to use image datatype, but be aware of:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/data-types/binary-and-varbinary-transact-sql

varbinary [ ( n | max) ]

Variable-length binary data. n can be a value from 1 through 8,000. max indicates that the maximum storage size is 2^31-1 bytes. The storage size is the actual length of the data entered + 2 bytes. The data that is entered can be 0 bytes in length. The ANSI SQL synonym for varbinary is binary varying.

So both are equally in size (2GB). But be aware of:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/deprecated-database-engine-features-in-sql-server-2016#features-not-supported-in-a-future-version-of-sql-server

Though the end of "image" datatype is still not determined, you should use the "future" proof equivalent.

But you have to ask yourself: why storing BLOBS in a Column?

NuGet: 'X' already has a dependency defined for 'Y'

I fixed a similar issue in my solution by:

  1. Opening up a command prompt
  2. Navigating to the .nuget folder in my solution
  3. Running nuget update -self

This upgraded the copy of NuGet.exe that was in my solution from 2.8.0 to 3.4.4, which fixed the 'X' already has a dependency defined for 'Y' error that was stopping it from downloading SSH.NET automatically before building.

(If your solution doesn't have a copy of NuGet.exe in it - and it might not - then you should try the solution in TN's answer instead)

Pushing empty commits to remote

Is there any disadvantages/consequences of pushing empty commits?

Aside from the extreme confusion someone might get as to why there's a bunch of commits with no content in them on master, not really.

You can change the commit that you pushed to remote, but the sha1 of the commit (basically it's id number) will change permanently, which alters the source tree -- You'd then have to do a git push -f back to remote.

static linking only some libraries

From the manpage of ld (this does not work with gcc), referring to the --static option:

You may use this option multiple times on the command line: it affects library searching for -l options which follow it.

One solution is to put your dynamic dependencies before the --static option on the command line.

Another possibility is to not use --static, but instead provide the full filename/path of the static object file (i.e. not using -l option) for statically linking in of a specific library. Example:

# echo "int main() {}" > test.cpp
# c++ test.cpp /usr/lib/libX11.a
# ldd a.out
linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x00007fff385cc000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x00007f9a5b233000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x00007f9a5afb0000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x00007f9a5ad99000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00007f9a5aa46000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007f9a5b53f000)

As you can see in the example, libX11 is not in the list of dynamically-linked libraries, as it was linked statically.

Beware: An .so file is always linked dynamically, even when specified with a full filename/path.

Entity Framework : How do you refresh the model when the db changes?

I have found the designer "update from database" can only handle small changes. If you have deleted tables, changed foreign keys or (gasp) changed the signature of a stored procedure with a function mapping, you will eventually get to such a messed up state you will have to either delete all the entities and "add from database" or simply delete the edmx resource and start over.

Bootstrap 3 collapsed menu doesn't close on click

I had the same problem, ensure that bootstrap.js is included in your html page. In my case the menu opened but did not close. As soon as I included the bootstrap js file, everything just worked.

Where are static variables stored in C and C++?

in the "global and static" area :)

There are several memory areas in C++:

  • heap
  • free store
  • stack
  • global & static
  • const

See here for a detailed answer to your question:

The following summarizes a C++ program's major distinct memory areas. Note that some of the names (e.g., "heap") do not appear as such in the draft [standard].

     Memory Area Characteristics and Object Lifetimes
     --------------  ------------------------------------------------

     Const Data The const data area stores string literals and
                     other data whose values are known at compile
                     time. No objects of class type can exist in
                     this area. All data in this area is available
                     during the entire lifetime of the program.

                     Further, all of this data is read-only, and the
                     results of trying to modify it are undefined.
                     This is in part because even the underlying
                     storage format is subject to arbitrary
                     optimization by the implementation.  For
                     example, a particular compiler may store string
                     literals in overlapping objects if it wants to.

     Stack The stack stores automatic variables. Typically
                     allocation is much faster than for dynamic
                     storage (heap or free store) because a memory
                     allocation involves only pointer increment
                     rather than more complex management. Objects
                     are constructed immediately after memory is
                     allocated and destroyed immediately before
                     memory is deallocated, so there is no
                     opportunity for programmers to directly
                     manipulate allocated but uninitialized stack
                     space (barring willful tampering using explicit
                     dtors and placement new).

     Free Store The free store is one of the two dynamic memory
                     areas, allocated/freed by new/delete.  Object
                     lifetime can be less than the time the storage
                     is allocated; that is, free store objects can
                     have memory allocated without being immediately
                     initialized, and can be destroyed without the
                     memory being immediately deallocated.  During
                     the period when the storage is allocated but
                     outside the object's lifetime, the storage may
                     be accessed and manipulated through a void* but
                     none of the proto-object's nonstatic members or
                     member functions may be accessed, have their
                     addresses taken, or be otherwise manipulated.

     Heap The heap is the other dynamic memory area,
                     allocated/freed by malloc/free and their
                     variants. Note that while the default global
                     new and delete might be implemented in terms of
                     malloc and free by a particular compiler, the
                     heap is not the same as free store and memory
                     allocated in one area cannot be safely
                     deallocated in the other. Memory allocated from
                     the heap can be used for objects of class type
                     by placement-new construction and explicit
                     destruction. If so used, the notes about free
                     store object lifetime apply similarly here.

     Global/Static Global or static variables and objects have
                     their storage allocated at program startup, but
                     may not be initialized until after the program
                     has begun executing. For instance, a static
                     variable in a function is initialized only the
                     first time program execution passes through its
                     definition. The order of initialization of
                     global variables across translation units is not
                     defined, and special care is needed to manage
                     dependencies between global objects (including
                     class statics). As always, uninitialized proto-
                     objects' storage may be accessed and manipulated
                     through a void* but no nonstatic members or
                     member functions may be used or referenced
                     outside the object's actual lifetime.

Error handling in getJSON calls

I was faced with this same issue, but rather than creating callbacks for a failed request, I simply returned an error with the json data object.

If possible, this seems like the easiest solution. Here's a sample of the Python code I used. (Using Flask, Flask's jsonify f and SQLAlchemy)

try:
    snip = Snip.query.filter_by(user_id=current_user.get_id(), id=snip_id).first()
    db.session.delete(snip)
    db.session.commit()
    return jsonify(success=True)
except Exception, e:
    logging.debug(e)
    return jsonify(error="Sorry, we couldn't delete that clip.")

Then you can check on Javascript like this;

$.getJSON('/ajax/deleteSnip/' + data_id,
    function(data){
    console.log(data);
    if (data.success === true) {
       console.log("successfully deleted snip");
       $('.snippet[data-id="' + data_id + '"]').slideUp();
    }
    else {
       //only shows if the data object was returned
    }
});

How do I return a string from a regex match in python?

You should use re.MatchObject.group(0). Like

imtag = re.match(r'<img.*?>', line).group(0)

Edit:

You also might be better off doing something like

imgtag  = re.match(r'<img.*?>',line)
if imtag:
    print("yo it's a {}".format(imgtag.group(0)))

to eliminate all the Nones.

Referencing a string in a string array resource with xml

In short: I don't think you can, but there seems to be a workaround:.

If you take a look into the Android Resource here:

http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/string-resource.html

You see than under the array section (string array, at least), the "RESOURCE REFERENCE" (as you get from an XML) does not specify a way to address the individual items. You can even try in your XML to use "@array/yourarrayhere". I know that in design time you will get the first item. But that is of no practical use if you want to use, let's say... the second, of course.

HOWEVER, there is a trick you can do. See here:

Referencing an XML string in an XML Array (Android)

You can "cheat" (not really) the array definition by addressing independent strings INSIDE the definition of the array. For example, in your strings.xml:

<string name="earth">Earth</string>
<string name="moon">Moon</string>

<string-array name="system">
    <item>@string/earth</item>
    <item>@string/moon</item>
</string-array>

By using this, you can use "@string/earth" and "@string/moon" normally in your "android:text" and "android:title" XML fields, and yet you won't lose the ability to use the array definition for whatever purposes you intended in the first place.

Seems to work here on my Eclipse. Why don't you try and tell us if it works? :-)

Here is what worked in my case. Might be less performance intensive.

How to remove all duplicate items from a list

No, it's simply a typo, the "list" at the end must be capitalized. You can nest loops over the same variable just fine (although there's rarely a good reason to).

However, there are other problems with the code. For starters, you're iterating through lists, so i and j will be items not indices. Furthermore, you can't change a collection while iterating over it (well, you "can" in that it runs, but madness lies that way - for instance, you'll propably skip over items). And then there's the complexity problem, your code is O(n^2). Either convert the list into a set and back into a list (simple, but shuffles the remaining list items) or do something like this:

seen = set()
new_x = []
for x in xs:
    if x in seen:
        continue
    seen.add(x)
    new_xs.append(x)

Both solutions require the items to be hashable. If that's not possible, you'll probably have to stick with your current approach sans the mentioned problems.

How to use mysql JOIN without ON condition?

MySQL documentation covers this topic.

Here is a synopsis. When using join or inner join, the on condition is optional. This is different from the ANSI standard and different from almost any other database. The effect is a cross join. Similarly, you can use an on clause with cross join, which also differs from standard SQL.

A cross join creates a Cartesian product -- that is, every possible combination of 1 row from the first table and 1 row from the second. The cross join for a table with three rows ('a', 'b', and 'c') and a table with four rows (say 1, 2, 3, 4) would have 12 rows.

In practice, if you want to do a cross join, then use cross join:

from A cross join B

is much better than:

from A, B

and:

from A join B -- with no on clause

The on clause is required for a right or left outer join, so the discussion is not relevant for them.

If you need to understand the different types of joins, then you need to do some studying on relational databases. Stackoverflow is not an appropriate place for that level of discussion.

.NET Global exception handler in console application

No, that's the correct way to do it. This worked exactly as it should, something you can work from perhaps:

using System;

class Program {
    static void Main(string[] args) {
        System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += UnhandledExceptionTrapper;
        throw new Exception("Kaboom");
    }

    static void UnhandledExceptionTrapper(object sender, UnhandledExceptionEventArgs e) {
        Console.WriteLine(e.ExceptionObject.ToString());
        Console.WriteLine("Press Enter to continue");
        Console.ReadLine();
        Environment.Exit(1);
    }
}

Do keep in mind that you cannot catch type and file load exceptions generated by the jitter this way. They happen before your Main() method starts running. Catching those requires delaying the jitter, move the risky code into another method and apply the [MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.NoInlining)] attribute to it.

Password encryption/decryption code in .NET

EDIT: this is a very old answer. SHA1 was deprecated in 2011 and has now been broken in practice. https://shattered.io/ Use a newer standard instead (e.g. SHA256, SHA512, etc).

If your answer to the question in my comment is "No", here's what I use:

    public static byte[] HashPassword(string password)
    {
        var provider = new SHA1CryptoServiceProvider();
        var encoding = new UnicodeEncoding();
        return provider.ComputeHash(encoding.GetBytes(password));
    }

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by ERROR

Check something with echo, print() or printr() in the include file, header.php.

It might be that this is the problem OR if any MVC file, then check the number of spaces after ?>. This could also make a problem.

AppendChild() is not a function javascript

In this

var div = '<div>top div</div>';

"div" is not a DOM object,is just a string,and string has no string.appendChild.

Here are some references that may help you on appendChild method:

<div id="div1">
<p id="p1">This is a paragraph.</p>
<p id="p2">This is another paragraph.</p>
</div>

<script>
var para = document.createElement("p");
var node = document.createTextNode("This is new.");
para.appendChild(node);

var element = document.getElementById("div1");
element.appendChild(para);
</script>

How to split a number into individual digits in c#?

Well, a string is an IEnumerable and also implements an indexer, so you can iterate through it or reference each character in the string by index.

The fastest way to get what you want is probably the ToCharArray() method of a String:

var myString = "12345";

var charArray = myString.ToCharArray(); //{'1','2','3','4','5'}

You can then convert each Char to a string, or parse them into bytes or integers. Here's a Linq-y way to do that:

byte[] byteArray = myString.ToCharArray().Select(c=>byte.Parse(c.ToString())).ToArray();

A little more performant if you're using ASCII/Unicode strings:

byte[] byteArray = myString.ToCharArray().Select(c=>(byte)c - 30).ToArray();

That code will only work if you're SURE that each element is a number; otherisw the parsing will throw an exception. A simple Regex that will verify this is true is "^\d+$" (matches a full string consisting of one or more digit characters), used in the Regex.IsMatch() static method.

Is there an SQLite equivalent to MySQL's DESCRIBE [table]?

If you're using a graphical tool. It shows you the schema right next to the table name. In case of DB Browser For Sqlite, click to open the database(top right corner), navigate and open your database, you'll see the information populated in the table as below.

enter image description here

right click on the record/table_name, click on copy create statement and there you have it.

Hope it helped some beginner who failed to work with the commandline.

How to get whole and decimal part of a number?

I was having a hard time finding a way to actually separate the dollar amount and the amount after the decimal. I think I figured it out mostly and thought to share if any of yall were having trouble

So basically...

if price is 1234.44... whole would be 1234 and decimal would be 44 or

if price is 1234.01... whole would be 1234 and decimal would be 01 or

if price is 1234.10... whole would be 1234 and decimal would be 10

and so forth

$price = 1234.44;

$whole = intval($price); // 1234
$decimal1 = $price - $whole; // 0.44000000000005 uh oh! that's why it needs... (see next line)
$decimal2 = round($decimal1, 2); // 0.44 this will round off the excess numbers
$decimal = substr($decimal2, 2); // 44 this removed the first 2 characters

if ($decimal == 1) { $decimal = 10; } // Michel's warning is correct...
if ($decimal == 2) { $decimal = 20; } // if the price is 1234.10... the decimal will be 1...
if ($decimal == 3) { $decimal = 30; } // so make sure to add these rules too
if ($decimal == 4) { $decimal = 40; }
if ($decimal == 5) { $decimal = 50; }
if ($decimal == 6) { $decimal = 60; }
if ($decimal == 7) { $decimal = 70; }
if ($decimal == 8) { $decimal = 80; }
if ($decimal == 9) { $decimal = 90; }

echo 'The dollar amount is ' . $whole . ' and the decimal amount is ' . $decimal;

Is it possible to use JS to open an HTML select to show its option list?

The solution I present is safe, simple and compatible with Internet Explorer, FireFox and Chrome.

This approach is new and complete. I not found nothing equal to that solution on the internet. Is simple, cross-browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox), preserves the layout, use the select itself and is easy to use.

Note: JQuery is required.

Angular is automatically adding 'ng-invalid' class on 'required' fields

Since the inputs are empty and therefore invalid when instantiated, Angular correctly adds the ng-invalid class.

A CSS rule you might try:

input.ng-dirty.ng-invalid {
  color: red
}

Which basically states when the field has had something entered into it at some point since the page loaded and wasn't reset to pristine by $scope.formName.setPristine(true) and something wasn't yet entered and it's invalid then the text turns red.

Other useful classes for Angular forms (see input for future reference )

ng-valid-maxlength - when ng-maxlength passes
ng-valid-minlength - when ng-minlength passes
ng-valid-pattern - when ng-pattern passes
ng-dirty - when the form has had something entered since the form loaded
ng-pristine - when the form input has had nothing inserted since loaded (or it was reset via setPristine(true) on the form)
ng-invalid - when any validation fails (required, minlength, custom ones, etc)

Likewise there is also ng-invalid-<name> for all these patterns and any custom ones created.

How can I start and check my MySQL log?

Setting up and using Meld as your git difftool and mergetool

I prefer to setup meld as a separate command, like so:

git config --global alias.meld '!git difftool -t meld --dir-diff'

This makes it similar to the git-meld.pl script here: https://github.com/wmanley/git-meld

You can then just run

git meld

String Resource new line /n not possible?

In the latest version of Android studio, "\n" is going to be printed like it was meant to be there unless the whole string it's in apostrophes

For Example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>
    <string name="title">"Hello\nWorld!"</string>
</resources>

Java decimal formatting using String.format?

Here is a small code snippet that does the job:

double a = 34.51234;

NumberFormat df = DecimalFormat.getInstance();
df.setMinimumFractionDigits(2);
df.setMaximumFractionDigits(4);
df.setRoundingMode(RoundingMode.DOWN);

System.out.println(df.format(a));

T-test in Pandas

it depends what sort of t-test you want to do (one sided or two sided dependent or independent) but it should be as simple as:

from scipy.stats import ttest_ind

cat1 = my_data[my_data['Category']=='cat1']
cat2 = my_data[my_data['Category']=='cat2']

ttest_ind(cat1['values'], cat2['values'])
>>> (1.4927289925706944, 0.16970867501294376)

it returns a tuple with the t-statistic & the p-value

see here for other t-tests http://docs.scipy.org/doc/scipy/reference/stats.html

CSS filter: make color image with transparency white

First, brightness(0) makes all image black, except transparent parts, which remain transparent.

Then, invert(1) makes the black parts white.

javascript code to check special characters

Did you write return true somewhere? You should have written it, otherwise function returns nothing and program may think that it's false, too.

function isValid(str) {
    var iChars = "~`!#$%^&*+=-[]\\\';,/{}|\":<>?";

    for (var i = 0; i < str.length; i++) {
       if (iChars.indexOf(str.charAt(i)) != -1) {
           alert ("File name has special characters ~`!#$%^&*+=-[]\\\';,/{}|\":<>? \nThese are not allowed\n");
           return false;
       }
    }
    return true;
}

I tried this in my chrome console and it worked well.

How to restrict the selectable date ranges in Bootstrap Datepicker?

The Bootstrap datepicker is able to set date-range. But it is not available in the initial release/Master Branch. Check the branch as 'range' there (or just see at https://github.com/eternicode/bootstrap-datepicker), you can do it simply with startDate and endDate.

Example:

$('#datepicker').datepicker({
    startDate: '-2m',
    endDate: '+2d'
});

node.js string.replace doesn't work?

Strings are always modelled as immutable (atleast in heigher level languages python/java/javascript/Scala/Objective-C).

So any string operations like concatenation, replacements always returns a new string which contains intended value, whereas the original string will still be same.

SQL Server - boolean literal?

SQL Server does not have literal true or false values. You'll need to use the 1=1 method (or similar) in the rare cases this is needed.

One option is to create your own named variables for true and false

DECLARE @TRUE bit
DECLARE @FALSE bit
SET @TRUE = 1
SET @FALSE = 0

select * from SomeTable where @TRUE = @TRUE

But these will only exist within the scope of the batch (you'll have to redeclare them in every batch in which you want to use them)

Rebase array keys after unsetting elements

I use $arr = array_merge($arr); to rebase an array. Simple and straightforward.

How can I set Image source with base64

In case you prefer to use jQuery to set the image from Base64:

$("#img").attr('src', 'data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAUAAAAFCAYAAACNbyblAAAAHElEQVQI12P4//8/w38GIAXDIBKE0DHxgljNBAAO9TXL0Y4OHwAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==');

Colors in JavaScript console

I actually just found this by accident being curious with what would happen but you can actually use bash colouring flags to set the colour of an output in Chrome:

console.log('\x1b[36m Hello \x1b[34m Colored \x1b[35m World!');
console.log('\x1B[31mHello\x1B[34m World');
console.log('\x1b[43mHighlighted');

Output:

Hello World red and blue

enter image description here

See this link for how colour flags work: https://misc.flogisoft.com/bash/tip_colors_and_formatting

Basically use the \x1b or \x1B in place of \e. eg. \x1b[31m and all text after that will be switched to the new colour.

I haven't tried this in any other browser though, but thought it worth mentioning.

Download Excel file via AJAX MVC

My 2 cents - you don't need to store the excel as a physical file on the server - instead, store it in the (Session) Cache. Use a uniquely generated name for your Cache variable (that stores that excel file) - this will be the return of your (initial) ajax call. This way you don't have to deal with file access issues, managing (deleting) the files when not needed, etc. and, having the file in the Cache, is faster to retrieve it.

How do I convert the date from one format to another date object in another format without using any deprecated classes?

    //Convert input format 19-FEB-16 01.00.00.000000000 PM to 2016-02-19 01.00.000 PM
    SimpleDateFormat inFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yy hh.mm.ss.SSSSSSSSS aaa");
    Date today = new Date();

    Date d1 = inFormat.parse("19-FEB-16 01.00.00.000000000 PM");

    SimpleDateFormat outFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd hh.mm.ss.SSS aaa");

    System.out.println("Out date ="+outFormat.format(d1));

Moving matplotlib legend outside of the axis makes it cutoff by the figure box

Sorry EMS, but I actually just got another response from the matplotlib mailling list (Thanks goes out to Benjamin Root).

The code I am looking for is adjusting the savefig call to:

fig.savefig('samplefigure', bbox_extra_artists=(lgd,), bbox_inches='tight')
#Note that the bbox_extra_artists must be an iterable

This is apparently similar to calling tight_layout, but instead you allow savefig to consider extra artists in the calculation. This did in fact resize the figure box as desired.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np

plt.gcf().clear()
x = np.arange(-2*np.pi, 2*np.pi, 0.1)
fig = plt.figure(1)
ax = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax.plot(x, np.sin(x), label='Sine')
ax.plot(x, np.cos(x), label='Cosine')
ax.plot(x, np.arctan(x), label='Inverse tan')
handles, labels = ax.get_legend_handles_labels()
lgd = ax.legend(handles, labels, loc='upper center', bbox_to_anchor=(0.5,-0.1))
text = ax.text(-0.2,1.05, "Aribitrary text", transform=ax.transAxes)
ax.set_title("Trigonometry")
ax.grid('on')
fig.savefig('samplefigure', bbox_extra_artists=(lgd,text), bbox_inches='tight')

This produces:

[edit] The intent of this question was to completely avoid the use of arbitrary coordinate placements of arbitrary text as was the traditional solution to these problems. Despite this, numerous edits recently have insisted on putting these in, often in ways that led to the code raising an error. I have now fixed the issues and tidied the arbitrary text to show how these are also considered within the bbox_extra_artists algorithm.

How to combine two byte arrays

The simplest method (inline, assuming a and b are two given arrays):

byte[] c = (new String(a, cch) + new String(b, cch)).getBytes(cch);

This, of course, works with more than two summands and uses a concatenation charset, defined somewhere in your code:

static final java.nio.charset.Charset cch = java.nio.charset.StandardCharsets.ISO_8859_1;

Or, in more simple form, without this charset:

byte[] c = (new String(a, "l1") + new String(b, "l1")).getBytes("l1");

But you need to suppress UnsupportedEncodingException which is unlikely to be thrown.

The fastest method:

public static byte[] concat(byte[] a, byte[] b) {
    int lenA = a.length;
    int lenB = b.length;
    byte[] c = Arrays.copyOf(a, lenA + lenB);
    System.arraycopy(b, 0, c, lenA, lenB);
    return c;
}

Erasing elements from a vector

  1. You can iterate using the index access,

  2. To avoid O(n^2) complexity you can use two indices, i - current testing index, j - index to store next item and at the end of the cycle new size of the vector.

code:

void erase(std::vector<int>& v, int num)
{
  size_t j = 0;
  for (size_t i = 0; i < v.size(); ++i) {
    if (v[i] != num) v[j++] = v[i];
  }
  // trim vector to new size
  v.resize(j);
}

In such case you have no invalidating of iterators, complexity is O(n), and code is very concise and you don't need to write some helper classes, although in some case using helper classes can benefit in more flexible code.

This code does not use erase method, but solves your task.

Using pure stl you can do this in the following way (this is similar to the Motti's answer):

#include <algorithm>

void erase(std::vector<int>& v, int num) {
    vector<int>::iterator it = remove(v.begin(), v.end(), num);
    v.erase(it, v.end());
}

Url decode UTF-8 in Python

You can achieve an expected result with requests library as well:

import requests

url = "http://www.mywebsite.org/Data%20Set.zip"

print(f"Before: {url}")
print(f"After:  {requests.utils.unquote(url)}")

Output:

$ python3 test_url_unquote.py

Before: http://www.mywebsite.org/Data%20Set.zip
After:  http://www.mywebsite.org/Data Set.zip

Might be handy if you are already using requests, without using another library for this job.

Select multiple value in DropDownList using ASP.NET and C#

foreach(ListItem listItem in lblMultiSelect.Items)
    {
       if (listItem.Selected)
       {
          var val = listItem.Value;
          var txt = listItem.Text;

Programmatically get the version number of a DLL

Kris, your version works great when needing to load the assembly from the actual DLL file (and if the DLL is there!), however, one will get a much unwanted error if the DLL is EMBEDDED (i.e., not a file but an embedded DLL).

The other thing is, if one uses a versioning scheme with something like "1.2012.0508.0101", when one gets the version string you'll actually get "1.2012.518.101"; note the missing zeros.

So, here's a few extra functions to get the version of a DLL (embedded or from the DLL file):

        System.Reflection.Assembly tMyAssembly = null;

Is there a git-merge --dry-run option?

Not exactly like that. But you can use the --no-commit option, so it does not automatically commit the result after the merge. In this way you can inspect, and if desired, to undo the merge without messing with the commit tree.

Stop Excel from automatically converting certain text values to dates

This issue is still present in Mac Office 2011 and Office 2013, I cannot prevent it happening. It seems such a basic thing.

In my case I had values such as "1 - 2" & "7 - 12" within the CSV enclosed correctly within inverted commas, this automatically converts to a date within excel, if you try subsequently convert it to just plain text you would get a number representation of the date such as 43768. Additionally it reformats large numbers found in barcodes and EAN numbers to 123E+ numbers again which cannot be converted back.

I have found that Google Drive's Google Sheets doesnt convert the numbers to dates. The barcodes do have commas in them every 3 characters but these are easily removed. It handles CSVs really well especially when dealing with MAC / Windows CSVs.

Might save someone sometime.

In a simple to understand explanation, what is Runnable in Java?

Runnable is an interface defined as so:

interface Runnable {
    public void run();
}

To make a class which uses it, just define the class as (public) class MyRunnable implements Runnable {

It can be used without even making a new Thread. It's basically your basic interface with a single method, run, that can be called.

If you make a new Thread with runnable as it's parameter, it will call the run method in a new Thread.

It should also be noted that Threads implement Runnable, and that is called when the new Thread is made (in the new thread). The default implementation just calls whatever Runnable you handed in the constructor, which is why you can just do new Thread(someRunnable) without overriding Thread's run method.

Best way to detect Mac OS X or Windows computers with JavaScript or jQuery

It's as simple as that:

function isMacintosh() {
  return navigator.platform.indexOf('Mac') > -1
}

function isWindows() {
  return navigator.platform.indexOf('Win') > -1
}

You can do funny things then like:

var isMac = isMacintosh();
var isPC = !isMacintosh();

Change PictureBox's image to image from my resources?

Ken has the right solution, but you don't want to add the picturebox.Image.Load() member method.

If you do it with a Load and the ImageLocation is not set, it will fail with a "Image Location must be set" exception. If you use the picturebox.Refresh() member method, it works without the exception.

Completed code below:

public void showAnimatedPictureBox(PictureBox thePicture)
{
            thePicture.Image = Properties.Resources.hamster;
            thePicture.Refresh();
            thePicture.Visible = true;
}

It is invoked as: showAnimatedPictureBox( myPictureBox );

My XAML looks like:

    <Window
        xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
        xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
        xmlns:wfi="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Forms.Integration;assembly=WindowsFormsIntegration"
        xmlns:winForms="clr-namespace:System.Windows.Forms;assembly=System.Windows.Forms"
        xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" x:Class="myApp.MainWindow"
        Title="myApp" Height="679.079" Width="986">

        <StackPanel Width="136" Height="Auto" Background="WhiteSmoke" x:Name="statusPanel">
            <wfi:WindowsFormsHost>
                <winForms:PictureBox x:Name="myPictureBox">
                </winForms:PictureBox>
            </wfi:WindowsFormsHost>
            <Label x:Name="myLabel" Content="myLabel" Margin="10,3,10,5" FontSize="20" FontWeight="Bold" Visibility="Hidden"/>
        </StackPanel>
</Window>

I realize this is an old post, but loading the image directly from a resource is was extremely unclear on Microsoft's site, and this was the (partial) solution I came to. Hope it helps someone!

How to break lines at a specific character in Notepad++?

I have no idea how it can work automatically, but you can copy "], " together with new line and then use replace function.

How can I get the current array index in a foreach loop?

$key is the index for the current array element, and $val is the value of that array element.

The first element has an index of 0. Therefore, to access it, use $arr[0]

To get the first element of the array, use this

$firstFound = false;
foreach($arr as $key=>$val)
{
    if (!$firstFound)
       $first = $val;
    else
       $firstFound = true;
    // do whatever you want here
}

// now ($first) has the value of the first element in the array

How can I dynamically add items to a Java array?

Apache Commons has an ArrayUtils implementation to add an element at the end of the new array:

How to retrieve checkboxes values in jQuery

The following may be useful since I got here looking for a slightly different solution. My script needed to automatically loop through input elements and had to return their values (for jQuery.post() function), the problem was with checkboxes returning their values regardless of checked status. This was my solution:

jQuery.fn.input_val = function(){

    if(jQuery(this).is("input[type=checkbox]")) {
        if(jQuery(this).is(":checked")) {
            return jQuery(this).val();
        } else {
            return false;
        }
    } else {
        return jQuery(this).val();
    }
};

Usage:

jQuery(".element").input_val();

If the given input field is a checkbox, the input_val function only returns a value if its checked. For all other elements, the value is returned regardless of checked status.

Performing a query on a result from another query?

You just wrap your query in another one:

SELECT COUNT(*), SUM(Age)
FROM (
    SELECT availables.bookdate AS Count, DATEDIFF(now(),availables.updated_at) as Age
    FROM availables
    INNER JOIN rooms
    ON availables.room_id=rooms.id
    WHERE availables.bookdate BETWEEN '2009-06-25' AND date_add('2009-06-25', INTERVAL 4 DAY) AND rooms.hostel_id = 5094
    GROUP BY availables.bookdate
) AS tmp;

How do I use the conditional operator (? :) in Ruby?

Easiest way:

param_a = 1
param_b = 2

result = param_a === param_b ? 'Same!' : 'Not same!'

since param_a is not equal to param_b then the result's value will be Not same!

Finding the position of the max element

In the STL, std::max_element provides the iterator (which can be used to get index with std::distance, if you really want it).

int main(int argc, char** argv) {
  int A[4] = {0, 2, 3, 1};
  const int N = sizeof(A) / sizeof(int);

  cout << "Index of max element: "
       << distance(A, max_element(A, A + N))
       << endl;

  return 0;
}

Ctrl+click doesn't work in Eclipse Juno

I had the exact same issue while working on a GIT based project. I was able to resolve by changing the way i was importing the project in the workspace.

Wrong way : Import project to workspace from GIT perspective , like right click on the GIT URL and selecting the option import which was not recognizing the project facets.

Right way (which resolved my issue): clone the project in GIT perspective , change to JEE Perspective , then import from file > import > Existing Maven Project .

How can I calculate the difference between two ArrayLists?

Change a Django form field to a hidden field

You can just use css :

_x000D_
_x000D_
#id_fieldname, label[for="id_fieldname"] {_x000D_
  position: absolute;_x000D_
  display: none_x000D_
}
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

This will make the field and its label invisible.

UTF-8 problems while reading CSV file with fgetcsv

The problem is that the function returns UTF-8 (it can check using mb_detect_encoding), but do not convert, and these characters takes as UTF-8. ?herefore, it's necessary to do the reverse-convert to initial encoding (Windows-1251 or CP1251) using iconv. But since by the fgetcsv returns an array, I suggest to write a custom function: [Sorry for my english]

function customfgetcsv(&$handle, $length, $separator = ';'){
    if (($buffer = fgets($handle, $length)) !== false) {
        return explode($separator, iconv("CP1251", "UTF-8", $buffer));
    }
    return false;
}

Angularjs prevent form submission when input validation fails

Just to add to the answers above,

I was having a 2 regular buttons as shown below. (No type="submit"anywhere)

<button ng-click="clearAll();" class="btn btn-default">Clear Form</button>
<button ng-disabled="form.$invalid" ng-click="submit();"class="btn btn-primary pull-right">Submit</button>

No matter how much i tried, pressing enter once the form was valid, the "Clear Form" button was called, clearing the entire form.

As a workaround,

I had to add a dummy submit button which was disabled and hidden. And This dummy button had to be on top of all the other buttons as shown below.

<button type="submit" ng-hide="true" ng-disabled="true">Dummy</button>

<button ng-click="clearAll();" class="btn btn-default">Clear Form</button>

<button ng-disabled="form.$invalid" ng-click="submit();"class="btn btn-primary pull-right">Submit</button>

Well, my intention was never to submit on Enter, so the above given hack just works fine.

With MySQL, how can I generate a column containing the record index in a table?

If you just want to know the position of one specific user after order by field score, you can simply select all row from your table where field score is higher than the current user score. And use row number returned + 1 to know which position of this current user.

Assuming that your table is league_girl and your primary field is id, you can use this:

SELECT count(id) + 1 as rank from league_girl where score > <your_user_score>

Increasing Heap Size on Linux Machines

You can use the following code snippet :

java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -Xss512k -XX:PermSize=64m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m
    -version | grep -iE 'HeapSize|PermSize|ThreadStackSize'

In my pc I am getting following output :

    uintx InitialHeapSize                          := 536870912       {product}
    uintx MaxHeapSize                              := 1073741824      {product}
    uintx PermSize                                 := 67108864        {pd product}
    uintx MaxPermSize                              := 134217728       {pd product}
     intx ThreadStackSize                          := 512             {pd product}

Read a HTML file into a string variable in memory

You can do it the simple way:

string pathToHTMLFile = @"C:\temp\someFile.html";
string htmlString = File.ReadAllText(pathToHTMLFile);

Or you could stream it in with FileStream/StreamReader:

using (FileStream fs = File.Open(pathToHTMLFile, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.ReadWrite))
{
    using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(fs))
    {
        htmlString = sr.ReadToEnd();
    }
}

This latter method allows you to open the file while still permitting others to perform Read/Write operations on the file. I can't imagine an HTML file being very big, but it has the added benefit of streaming the file instead of capturing it as one large chunk like the first method.

Can I call an overloaded constructor from another constructor of the same class in C#?

If you mean if you can do ctor chaining in C#, the answer is yes. The question has already been asked.

However it seems from the comments, it seems what you really intend to ask is 'Can I call an overloaded constructor from within another constructor with pre/post processing?'
Although C# doesn't have the syntax to do this, you could do this with a common initialization function (like you would do in C++ which doesn't support ctor chaining)

class A
{
  //ctor chaining
  public A() : this(0)
  {
      Console.WriteLine("default ctor");
  }

  public A(int i)
  {
      Init(i);
  }

  // what you want
  public A(string s)
  {
      Console.WriteLine("string ctor overload" );
      Console.WriteLine("pre-processing" );
      Init(Int32.Parse(s));
      Console.WriteLine("post-processing" );
  }

   private void Init(int i)
   {
      Console.WriteLine("int ctor {0}", i);
   }
}

AngularJS: how to enable $locationProvider.html5Mode with deeplinking

This problem was due to the use of AngularJS 1.1.5 (which was unstable, and obviously had some bug or different implementation of the routing than it was in 1.0.7)

turning it back to 1.0.7 solved the problem instantly.

have tried the 1.2.0rc1 version, but have not finished testing as I had to rewrite some of the router functionality since they took it out of the core.

anyway, this problem is fixed when using AngularJS vs 1.0.7.

What does the JSLint error 'body of a for in should be wrapped in an if statement' mean?

First of all, never use a for in loop to enumerate over an array. Never. Use good old for(var i = 0; i<arr.length; i++).

The reason behind this is the following: each object in JavaScript has a special field called prototype. Everything you add to that field is going to be accessible on every object of that type. Suppose you want all arrays to have a cool new function called filter_0 that will filter zeroes out.

Array.prototype.filter_0 = function() {
    var res = [];
    for (var i = 0; i < this.length; i++) {
        if (this[i] != 0) {
            res.push(this[i]);
        }
    }
    return res;
};

console.log([0, 5, 0, 3, 0, 1, 0].filter_0());
//prints [5,3,1]

This is a standard way to extend objects and add new methods. Lots of libraries do this. However, let's look at how for in works now:

var listeners = ["a", "b", "c"];
for (o in listeners) {
    console.log(o);
}
//prints:
//  0
//  1
//  2
//  filter_0

Do you see? It suddenly thinks filter_0 is another array index. Of course, it is not really a numeric index, but for in enumerates through object fields, not just numeric indexes. So we're now enumerating through every numeric index and filter_0. But filter_0 is not a field of any particular array object, every array object has this property now.

Luckily, all objects have a hasOwnProperty method, which checks if this field really belongs to the object itself or if it is simply inherited from the prototype chain and thus belongs to all the objects of that type.

for (o in listeners) {
    if (listeners.hasOwnProperty(o)) {
       console.log(o);
    }
}
 //prints:
 //  0
 //  1
 //  2

Note, that although this code works as expected for arrays, you should never, never, use for in and for each in for arrays. Remember that for in enumerates the fields of an object, not array indexes or values.

var listeners = ["a", "b", "c"];
listeners.happy = "Happy debugging";

for (o in listeners) {
    if (listeners.hasOwnProperty(o)) {
       console.log(o);
    }
}

 //prints:
 //  0
 //  1
 //  2
 //  happy

Press Enter to move to next control

You could also write your own Control for this, in case you want to use this more often. Assuming you have multiple TextBoxes in a Grid, it would look something like this:

public class AdvanceOnEnterTextBox : UserControl
{

    TextBox _TextBox;
    public static readonly DependencyProperty TextProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("Text", typeof(String), typeof(AdvanceOnEnterTextBox), null);
    public static readonly DependencyProperty InputScopeProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("InputScope", typeof(InputScope), typeof(AdvanceOnEnterTextBox), null);

    public AdvanceOnEnterTextBox()
    {
        _TextBox = new TextBox();
        _TextBox.KeyDown += customKeyDown;
        Content = _TextBox;

    }

    /// <summary>
    /// Text for the TextBox
    /// </summary>
    public String Text
    {
        get { return _TextBox.Text; }
        set { _TextBox.Text = value; }
    }

    /// <summary>
    /// Inputscope for the Custom Textbox
    /// </summary>
    public InputScope InputScope
    {
        get { return _TextBox.InputScope; }
        set { _TextBox.InputScope = value; }
    }

    void customKeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
    {
        if (!e.Key.Equals(Key.Enter)) return;

        var element = ((TextBox)sender).Parent as AdvanceOnEnterTextBox;
        if (element != null)
        {
            int currentElementPosition = ((Grid)element.Parent).Children.IndexOf(element);
            try
            {
                // Jump to the next AdvanceOnEnterTextBox (assuming, that Labels are inbetween).
                ((AdvanceOnEnterTextBox)((Grid)element.Parent).Children.ElementAt(currentElementPosition + 2)).Focus();
            }
            catch (Exception)
            {
                // Close Keypad if this was the last AdvanceOnEnterTextBox
                ((AdvanceOnEnterTextBox)((Grid)element.Parent).Children.ElementAt(currentElementPosition)).IsEnabled = false;
                ((AdvanceOnEnterTextBox)((Grid)element.Parent).Children.ElementAt(currentElementPosition)).IsEnabled = true;

How to loop through a JSON object with typescript (Angular2)

Assuming your json object from your GET request looks like the one you posted above simply do:

});

Or am I missing something that prevents you from doing it this way?

Java verify void method calls n times with Mockito

The necessary method is Mockito#verify:

public static <T> T verify(T mock,
                           VerificationMode mode)

mock is your mocked object and mode is the VerificationMode that describes how the mock should be verified. Possible modes are:

verify(mock, times(5)).someMethod("was called five times");
verify(mock, never()).someMethod("was never called");
verify(mock, atLeastOnce()).someMethod("was called at least once");
verify(mock, atLeast(2)).someMethod("was called at least twice");
verify(mock, atMost(3)).someMethod("was called at most 3 times");
verify(mock, atLeast(0)).someMethod("was called any number of times"); // useful with captors
verify(mock, only()).someMethod("no other method has been called on the mock");

You'll need these static imports from the Mockito class in order to use the verify method and these verification modes:

import static org.mockito.Mockito.atLeast;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.atLeastOnce;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.atMost;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.never;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.only;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.times;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.verify;

So in your case the correct syntax will be:

Mockito.verify(mock, times(4)).send()

This verifies that the method send was called 4 times on the mocked object. It will fail if it was called less or more than 4 times.

If you just want to check, if the method has been called once, then you don't need to pass a VerificationMode. A simple

verify(mock).someMethod("was called once");

would be enough. It internally uses verify(mock, times(1)).someMethod("was called once");.

It is possible to have multiple verification calls on the same mock to achieve a "between" verification. Mockito doesn't support something like this verify(mock, between(4,6)).someMethod("was called between 4 and 6 times");, but we can write

verify(mock, atLeast(4)).someMethod("was called at least four times ...");
verify(mock, atMost(6)).someMethod("... and not more than six times");

instead, to get the same behaviour. The bounds are included, so the test case is green when the method was called 4, 5 or 6 times.

MySQL: #126 - Incorrect key file for table

My issue came from a bad query. I referenced a table in FROM the was not referenced in SELECT.

example:

   SELECT t.*,s.ticket_status as `ticket_status`
   FROM tickets_new t, ticket_status s, users u

, users u is what was causing the issue for me. Removing that solved the issue.

For reference this was in a CodeIgniter dev environment.

Problem with converting int to string in Linq to entities

var selectList = db.NewsClasses.ToList<NewsClass>().Select(a => new SelectListItem({
    Text = a.ClassName,
    Value = a.ClassId.ToString()
});

Firstly, convert to object, then toString() will be correct.

Align text in a table header

Try:

text-align: center;

You may be familiar with the HTML align attribute (which has been discontinued as of HTML 5). The align attribute could be used with tags such as

<table>, <td>, and <img>

to specify the alignment of these elements. This attribute allowed you to align elements horizontally. HTML also has/had a valign attribute for aligning elements vertically. This has also been discontinued from HTML5.

These attributes were discontinued in favor of using CSS to set the alignment of HTML elements.

There isn't actually a CSS align or CSS valign property. Instead, CSS has the text-align which applies to inline content of block-level elements, and vertical-align property which applies to inline level and table cells.

How to use KeyListener

The class which implements KeyListener interface becomes our custom key event listener. This listener can not directly listen the key events. It can only listen the key events through intermediate objects such as JFrame. So

  1. Make one Key listener class as

    class MyListener implements KeyListener{

       // override all the methods of KeyListener interface.
    }

  2. Now our class MyKeyListener is ready to listen the key events. But it can not directly do so.

  3. Create any object like JFrame object through which MyListener can listen the key events. for that you need to add MyListener object to the JFrame object.

    JFrame f=new JFrame();
    f.addKeyListener(new MyKeyListener);

How to generate the JPA entity Metamodel?

Let's assume our application uses the following Post, PostComment, PostDetails, and Tag entities, which form a one-to-many, one-to-one, and many-to-many table relationships:

JPA Criteria Metamodel

How to generate the JPA Criteria Metamodel

The hibernate-jpamodelgen tool provided by Hibernate ORM can be used to scan the project entities and generate the JPA Criteria Metamodel. All you need to do is add the following annotationProcessorPath to the maven-compiler-plugin in the Maven pom.xml configuration file:

<plugin>
    <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
    <artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
    <version>${maven-compiler-plugin.version}</version>
    <configuration>
        <annotationProcessorPaths>
            <annotationProcessorPath>
                <groupId>org.hibernate</groupId>
                <artifactId>hibernate-jpamodelgen</artifactId>
                <version>${hibernate.version}</version>
            </annotationProcessorPath>
        </annotationProcessorPaths>
    </configuration>
</plugin>

Now, when the project is compiled, you can see that in the target folder, the following Java classes are generated:

> tree target/generated-sources/
target/generated-sources/
+-- annotations
    +-- com
        +-- vladmihalcea
            +-- book
                +-- hpjp
                    +-- hibernate
                        +-- forum
                        ¦   +-- PostComment_.java
                        ¦   +-- PostDetails_.java
                        ¦   +-- Post_.java
                        ¦   +-- Tag_.java

Tag entity Metamodel

If the Tag entity is mapped as follows:

@Entity
@Table(name = "tag")
public class Tag {

    @Id
    private Long id;

    private String name;

    //Getters and setters omitted for brevity
}

The Tag_ Metamodel class is generated like this:

@Generated(value = "org.hibernate.jpamodelgen.JPAMetaModelEntityProcessor")
@StaticMetamodel(Tag.class)
public abstract class Tag_ {

    public static volatile SingularAttribute<Tag, String> name;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<Tag, Long> id;

    public static final String NAME = "name";
    public static final String ID = "id";
}

The SingularAttribute is used for the basic id and name Tag JPA entity attributes.

Post entity Metamodel

The Post entity is mapped like this:

@Entity
@Table(name = "post")
public class Post {

    @Id
    private Long id;

    private String title;

    @OneToMany(
        mappedBy = "post",
        cascade = CascadeType.ALL,
        orphanRemoval = true
    )
    private List<PostComment> comments = new ArrayList<>();

    @OneToOne(
        mappedBy = "post",
        cascade = CascadeType.ALL,
        fetch = FetchType.LAZY
    )
    @LazyToOne(LazyToOneOption.NO_PROXY)
    private PostDetails details;

    @ManyToMany
    @JoinTable(
        name = "post_tag",
        joinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "post_id"),
        inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "tag_id")
    )
    private List<Tag> tags = new ArrayList<>();

    //Getters and setters omitted for brevity
}

The Post entity has two basic attributes, id and title, a one-to-many comments collection, a one-to-one details association, and a many-to-many tags collection.

The Post_ Metamodel class is generated as follows:

@Generated(value = "org.hibernate.jpamodelgen.JPAMetaModelEntityProcessor")
@StaticMetamodel(Post.class)
public abstract class Post_ {

    public static volatile ListAttribute<Post, PostComment> comments;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<Post, PostDetails> details;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<Post, Long> id;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<Post, String> title;
    public static volatile ListAttribute<Post, Tag> tags;

    public static final String COMMENTS = "comments";
    public static final String DETAILS = "details";
    public static final String ID = "id";
    public static final String TITLE = "title";
    public static final String TAGS = "tags";
}

The basic id and title attributes, as well as the one-to-one details association, are represented by a SingularAttribute while the comments and tags collections are represented by the JPA ListAttribute.

PostDetails entity Metamodel

The PostDetails entity is mapped like this:

@Entity
@Table(name = "post_details")
public class PostDetails {

    @Id
    @GeneratedValue
    private Long id;

    @Column(name = "created_on")
    private Date createdOn;

    @Column(name = "created_by")
    private String createdBy;

    @OneToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY)
    @MapsId
    @JoinColumn(name = "id")
    private Post post;

    //Getters and setters omitted for brevity
}

All entity attributes are going to be represented by the JPA SingularAttribute in the associated PostDetails_ Metamodel class:

@Generated(value = "org.hibernate.jpamodelgen.JPAMetaModelEntityProcessor")
@StaticMetamodel(PostDetails.class)
public abstract class PostDetails_ {

    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostDetails, Post> post;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostDetails, String> createdBy;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostDetails, Long> id;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostDetails, Date> createdOn;

    public static final String POST = "post";
    public static final String CREATED_BY = "createdBy";
    public static final String ID = "id";
    public static final String CREATED_ON = "createdOn";
}

PostComment entity Metamodel

The PostComment is mapped as follows:

@Entity
@Table(name = "post_comment")
public class PostComment {

    @Id
    private Long id;

    @ManyToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY)
    private Post post;

    private String review;

    //Getters and setters omitted for brevity
}

And, all entity attributes are represented by the JPA SingularAttribute in the associated PostComments_ Metamodel class:

@Generated(value = "org.hibernate.jpamodelgen.JPAMetaModelEntityProcessor")
@StaticMetamodel(PostComment.class)
public abstract class PostComment_ {

    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostComment, Post> post;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostComment, String> review;
    public static volatile SingularAttribute<PostComment, Long> id;

    public static final String POST = "post";
    public static final String REVIEW = "review";
    public static final String ID = "id";
}

Using the JPA Criteria Metamodel

Without the JPA Metamodel, a Criteria API query that needs to fetch the PostComment entities filtered by their associated Post title would look like this:

CriteriaBuilder builder = entityManager.getCriteriaBuilder();

CriteriaQuery<PostComment> query = builder.createQuery(PostComment.class);
Root<PostComment> postComment = query.from(PostComment.class);

Join<PostComment, Post> post = postComment.join("post");

query.where(
    builder.equal(
        post.get("title"),
        "High-Performance Java Persistence"
    )
);

List<PostComment> comments = entityManager
    .createQuery(query)
    .getResultList();

Notice that we used the post String literal when creating the Join instance, and we used the title String literal when referencing the Post title.

The JPA Metamodel allows us to avoid hard-coding entity attributes, as illustrated by the following example:

CriteriaBuilder builder = entityManager.getCriteriaBuilder();

CriteriaQuery<PostComment> query = builder.createQuery(PostComment.class);
Root<PostComment> postComment = query.from(PostComment.class);

Join<PostComment, Post> post = postComment.join(PostComment_.post);

query.where(
    builder.equal(
        post.get(Post_.title),
        "High-Performance Java Persistence"
    )
);

List<PostComment> comments = entityManager
    .createQuery(query)
    .getResultList();

Or, let's say we want to fetch a DTO projection while filtering the Post title and the PostDetails createdOn attributes.

We can use the Metamodel when creating the join attributes, as well as when building the DTO projection column aliases or when referencing the entity attributes we need to filter:

CriteriaBuilder builder = entityManager.getCriteriaBuilder();

CriteriaQuery<Object[]> query = builder.createQuery(Object[].class);

Root<PostComment> postComment = query.from(PostComment.class);
Join<PostComment, Post> post = postComment.join(PostComment_.post);

query.multiselect(
    postComment.get(PostComment_.id).alias(PostComment_.ID),
    postComment.get(PostComment_.review).alias(PostComment_.REVIEW),
    post.get(Post_.title).alias(Post_.TITLE)
);

query.where(
    builder.and(
        builder.like(
            post.get(Post_.title),
            "%Java Persistence%"
        ),
        builder.equal(
            post.get(Post_.details).get(PostDetails_.CREATED_BY),
            "Vlad Mihalcea"
        )
    )
);

List<PostCommentSummary> comments = entityManager
    .createQuery(query)
    .unwrap(Query.class)
    .setResultTransformer(Transformers.aliasToBean(PostCommentSummary.class))
    .getResultList();

Cool, right?

How do I add an element to a list in Groovy?

From the documentation:

We can add to a list in many ways:

assert [1,2] + 3 + [4,5] + 6 == [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
assert [1,2].plus(3).plus([4,5]).plus(6) == [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
    //equivalent method for +
def a= [1,2,3]; a += 4; a += [5,6]; assert a == [1,2,3,4,5,6]
assert [1, *[222, 333], 456] == [1, 222, 333, 456]
assert [ *[1,2,3] ] == [1,2,3]
assert [ 1, [2,3,[4,5],6], 7, [8,9] ].flatten() == [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]

def list= [1,2]
list.add(3) //alternative method name
list.addAll([5,4]) //alternative method name
assert list == [1,2,3,5,4]

list= [1,2]
list.add(1,3) //add 3 just before index 1
assert list == [1,3,2]
list.addAll(2,[5,4]) //add [5,4] just before index 2
assert list == [1,3,5,4,2]

list = ['a', 'b', 'z', 'e', 'u', 'v', 'g']
list[8] = 'x'
assert list == ['a', 'b', 'z', 'e', 'u', 'v', 'g', null, 'x']

You can also do:

def myNewList = myList << "fifth"

Getting a list of associative array keys

Make a Bash alias that takes a parameter?

Here is another approach using read. I am using this for brute search of a file by its name fragment, ignoring the "permission denied" messages.

alias loc0='{ IFS= read -r x; find . -iname "*" -print 2>/dev/null | grep $x;} <<<'

A simple example:

$ { IFS= read -r x; echo "1 $x 2 ";} <<< "a b"
1 a b 2

Note, that this converts the argument as a string into variable(s). One could use several parameters within quotes for this, space separated:

$ { read -r x0 x1; echo "1 ${x0} 2 ${x1} 3 ";} <<< "a b"
1 a 2 b 3

ssh : Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-with-mic)

And I think this will clearify the cause of posted problem, actualy this is bug of pssh itself (contains inside "askpass-client.py"). It is pssh's lib file. And there is documented issue for -A case: https://code.google.com/archive/p/parallel-ssh/issues/80 There are two possible resolutions to use version of pssh containing this bug in case you forced to use passphrase for private key access:

  1. Correct your "askpass-client.py" as described in link listed before in my post.
  2. Using your favorite pass keeper.

Thnks for attention, hope it helps!

Has Facebook sharer.php changed to no longer accept detailed parameters?

Facebook no longer supports custom parameters in sharer.php

The sharer will no longer accept custom parameters and facebook will pull the information that is being displayed in the preview the same way that it would appear on facebook as a post from the url OG meta tags.

Use dialog/feeds instead of sharer.php

How do you create a Distinct query in HQL

It's worth noting that the distinct keyword in HQL does not map directly to the distinct keyword in SQL.

If you use the distinct keyword in HQL, then sometimes Hibernate will use the distinct SQL keyword, but in some situations it will use a result transformer to produce distinct results. For example when you are using an outer join like this:

select distinct o from Order o left join fetch o.lineItems

It is not possible to filter out duplicates at the SQL level in this case, so Hibernate uses a ResultTransformer to filter duplicates after the SQL query has been performed.

How Should I Declare Foreign Key Relationships Using Code First Entity Framework (4.1) in MVC3?

If you have an Order class, adding a property that references another class in your model, for instance Customer should be enough to let EF know there's a relationship in there:

public class Order
{
    public int ID { get; set; }

    // Some other properties

    // Foreign key to customer
    public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
}

You can always set the FK relation explicitly:

public class Order
{
    public int ID { get; set; }

    // Some other properties

    // Foreign key to customer
    [ForeignKey("Customer")]
    public string CustomerID { get; set; }
    public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }
}

The ForeignKeyAttribute constructor takes a string as a parameter: if you place it on a foreign key property it represents the name of the associated navigation property. If you place it on the navigation property it represents the name of the associated foreign key.

What this means is, if you where to place the ForeignKeyAttribute on the Customer property, the attribute would take CustomerID in the constructor:

public string CustomerID { get; set; }
[ForeignKey("CustomerID")]
public virtual Customer Customer { get; set; }

EDIT based on Latest Code You get that error because of this line:

[ForeignKey("Parent")]
public Patient Patient { get; set; }

EF will look for a property called Parent to use it as the Foreign Key enforcer. You can do 2 things:

1) Remove the ForeignKeyAttribute and replace it with the RequiredAttribute to mark the relation as required:

[Required]
public virtual Patient Patient { get; set; }

Decorating a property with the RequiredAttribute also has a nice side effect: The relation in the database is created with ON DELETE CASCADE.

I would also recommend making the property virtual to enable Lazy Loading.

2) Create a property called Parent that will serve as a Foreign Key. In that case it probably makes more sense to call it for instance ParentID (you'll need to change the name in the ForeignKeyAttribute as well):

public int ParentID { get; set; }

In my experience in this case though it works better to have it the other way around:

[ForeignKey("Patient")]
public int ParentID { get; set; }

public virtual Patient Patient { get; set; }

How to convert a Scikit-learn dataset to a Pandas dataset?

Here's another integrated method example maybe helpful.

from sklearn.datasets import load_iris
iris_X, iris_y = load_iris(return_X_y=True, as_frame=True)
type(iris_X), type(iris_y)

The data iris_X are imported as pandas DataFrame and the target iris_y are imported as pandas Series.

Pass Model To Controller using Jquery/Ajax

As suggested in other answers it's probably easiest to "POST" the form data to the controller. If you need to pass an entire Model/Form you can easily do this with serialize() e.g.

$('#myform').on('submit', function(e){
    e.preventDefault();

    var formData = $(this).serialize();

    $.post('/student/update', formData, function(response){
         //Do something with response
    });
});

So your controller could have a view model as the param e.g.

 [HttpPost]
 public JsonResult Update(StudentViewModel studentViewModel)
 {}

Alternatively if you just want to post some specific values you can do:

$('#myform').on('submit', function(e){
    e.preventDefault();

    var studentId = $(this).find('#Student_StudentId');
    var isActive = $(this).find('#Student_IsActive');

    $.post('/my/url', {studentId : studentId, isActive : isActive}, function(response){
         //Do something with response
    });
});

With a controller like:

     [HttpPost]
     public JsonResult Update(int studentId, bool isActive)
     {}

Equivalent of waitForVisible/waitForElementPresent in Selenium WebDriver tests using Java?

Well the thing is that you probably actually don't want the test to run indefinitely. You just want to wait a longer amount of time before the library decides the element doesn't exist. In that case, the most elegant solution is to use implicit wait, which is designed for just that:

driver.manage().timeouts().implicitlyWait( ... )

Find html label associated with a given input

Earlier...

var labels = document.getElementsByTagName("LABEL"),
    lookup = {},
    i, label;

for (i = 0; i < labels.length; i++) {
    label = labels[i];
    if (document.getElementById(label.htmlFor)) {
        lookup[label.htmlFor] = label;
    }
}

Later...

var myLabel = lookup[myInput.id];

Snarky comment: Yes, you can also do it with JQuery. :-)

How to check if my string is equal to null?

You need to check that the myString object is null:

Ajax using https on an http page

Try JSONP.

most JS libraries make it just as easy as other AJAX calls, but internally use an iframe to do the query.

if you're not using JSON for your payload, then you'll have to roll your own mechanism around the iframe.

personally, i'd just redirect form the http:// page to the https:// one

How do I post button value to PHP?

Keep in mind that what you're getting in a POST on the server-side is a key-value pair. You have values, but where is your key? In this case, you'll want to set the name attribute of the buttons so that there's a key by which to access the value.

Additionally, in keeping with conventions, you'll want to change the type of these inputs (buttons) to submit so that they post their values to the form properly.

Also, what is your onclick doing?

Changing the page title with Jquery

    int[] arr = new int[length];
    for (int i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
        System.out.println("Enter the number " + (i + 1) + ": ");
        //Below is the way to collect the element from the user
        arr[i] = input.nextInt();

        // auto generate the elements
        //arr[i] = (int)(Math.random()*100);

How to wait until an element exists?

You can try this:

const wait_until_element_appear = setInterval(() => {
    if ($(element).length !== 0) {
        // some code
        clearInterval(wait_until_element_appear);
    }
}, 0);

This solution works very good for me

Create an empty list in python with certain size

I came across this SO question while searching for a similar problem. I had to build a 2D array and then replace some elements of each list (in 2D array) with elements from a dict. I then came across this SO question which helped me, maybe this will help other beginners to get around. The key trick was to initialize the 2D array as an numpy array and then using array[i,j] instead of array[i][j].

For reference this is the piece of code where I had to use this :

nd_array = []
for i in range(30):
    nd_array.append(np.zeros(shape = (32,1)))
new_array = []
for i in range(len(lines)):
    new_array.append(nd_array)
new_array = np.asarray(new_array)
for i in range(len(lines)):
    splits = lines[i].split(' ')
    for j in range(len(splits)):
        #print(new_array[i][j])
        new_array[i,j] = final_embeddings[dictionary[str(splits[j])]-1].reshape(32,1)

Now I know we can use list comprehension but for simplicity sake I am using a nested for loop. Hope this helps others who come across this post.

What is the "right" way to iterate through an array in Ruby?

I think there is no one right way. There are a lot of different ways to iterate, and each has its own niche.

  • each is sufficient for many usages, since I don't often care about the indexes.
  • each_ with _index acts like Hash#each - you get the value and the index.
  • each_index - just the indexes. I don't use this one often. Equivalent to "length.times".
  • map is another way to iterate, useful when you want to transform one array into another.
  • select is the iterator to use when you want to choose a subset.
  • inject is useful for generating sums or products, or collecting a single result.

It may seem like a lot to remember, but don't worry, you can get by without knowing all of them. But as you start to learn and use the different methods, your code will become cleaner and clearer, and you'll be on your way to Ruby mastery.

Is there a jQuery unfocus method?

This works for me:

// Document click blurer

        var $a = $(document.activeElement).prop("disabled", true);

Error message "Strict standards: Only variables should be passed by reference"

$instance->find() returns a reference to a variable.

You get the report when you are trying to use this reference as an argument to a function, without storing it in a variable first.

This helps preventing memory leaks and will probably become an error in the next PHP versions.

Your second code block would throw an error if it wrote like (note the & in the function signature):

function &get_arr(){
    return array(1, 2);
}
$el = array_shift(get_arr());

So a quick (and not so nice) fix would be:

$el = array_shift($tmp = $instance->find(..));

Basically, you do an assignment to a temporary variable first and send the variable as an argument.

How to get first and last element in an array in java?

What is the best (idiomatic) way to check the type of a Python variable?

I think I will go for the duck typing approach - "if it walks like a duck, it quacks like a duck, its a duck". This way you will need not worry about if the string is a unicode or ascii.

Here is what I will do:

In [53]: s='somestring'

In [54]: u=u'someunicodestring'

In [55]: d={}

In [56]: for each in s,u,d:
    if hasattr(each, 'keys'):
        print list(set(each.values()))
    elif hasattr(each, 'lower'):
        print [each]
    else:
        print "error"
   ....:
   ....:
['somestring']
[u'someunicodestring']
[]

The experts here are welcome to comment on this type of usage of ducktyping, I have been using it but got introduced to the exact concept behind it lately and am very excited about it. So I would like to know if thats an overkill to do.

Convert String to Carbon

Why not try using the following:

$dateTimeString = $aDateString." ".$aTimeString;
$dueDateTime = Carbon::createFromFormat('Y-m-d H:i:s', $dateTimeString, 'Europe/London');

Git push error pre-receive hook declined

Following resolved problem in my local machine:

A. First, ensure that you are using the correct log on details to connect to Bitbucket Server (ie. a username/password/SSH key that belongs to you)

B. Then, ensure that the name/email address is correctly set in your local Git configuration: Set your local Git configuration for the account that you are trying to push under (the check asserts that you are the person who committed the files) * Note that this is case sensitive, both for name and email address * It is also space sensitive - some company accounts have extra spaces/characters in their name eg. "Contractor/ space space(LDN)".  You must include the same number of spaces in your configuration as on Bitbucket Server.  Check this in Notepad if stuck.

C. If you were using the wrong account, simply switch your account credentials (username/password/SSH key) and try pushing again.

D. Else, if your local configuration incorrect you will need to amend it

For MAC

open -a TextEdit.app ~/.gitconfig

NOTE: You will have to fix up the old commits that you were trying to push.

  1. Amend your last commit:

    > git commit --amend --reset-author

    <save and quit the commit file text editor that opens, if Vim then
    :wq to save and quit>

  2. Try re-pushing your commits:

    > git push

CSS3 selector :first-of-type with class name?

This is an old thread, but I'm responding because it still appears high in the list of search results. Now that the future has arrived, you can use the :nth-child pseudo-selector.

p:nth-child(1) { color: blue; }
p.myclass1:nth-child(1) { color: red; }
p.myclass2:nth-child(1) { color: green; }

The :nth-child pseudo-selector is powerful - the parentheses accept formulas as well as numbers.

Getting the last n elements of a vector. Is there a better way than using the length() function?

You can do exactly the same thing in R with two more characters:

or

x[-(1:5)]

How can I slice an ArrayList out of an ArrayList in Java?

I have found a way if you know startIndex and endIndex of the elements one need to remove from ArrayList

Let al be the original ArrayList and startIndex,endIndex be start and end index to be removed from the array respectively:

al.subList(startIndex, endIndex + 1).clear();

Date format in dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm:ss

The chapter on CAST and CONVERT on MSDN Books Online, you've missed the right answer by one line.... you can use style no. 121 (ODBC canonical (with milliseconds)) to get the result you're looking for:

SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR(30), GETDATE(), 121)

This gives me the output of:

2012-04-14 21:44:03.793

Update: based on your updated question - of course this won't work - you're converting a string (this: '4/14/2012 2:44:01 PM' is just a string - it's NOT a datetime!) to a string......

You need to first convert the string you have to a DATETIME and THEN convert it back to a string!

Try this:

SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR(30), CAST('4/14/2012 2:44:01 PM' AS DATETIME), 121)

Now you should get:

2012-04-14 14:44:01.000

All zeroes for the milliseconds, obviously, since your original values didn't include any ....

get and set in TypeScript

If you are working with TypeScript modules and are trying to add a getter that is exported, you can do something like this:

// dataStore.ts
export const myData: string = undefined; // just for typing support
let _myData: string; // for memoizing the getter results

Object.defineProperty(this, "myData", {
    get: (): string => {
        if (_myData === undefined) {
            _myData = "my data"; // pretend this took a long time
        }

        return _myData;
    },
});

Then, in another file you have:

import * as dataStore from "./dataStore"
console.log(dataStore.myData); // "my data"

SQL Query - Using Order By in UNION

Bootstrap Dropdown with Hover

So you have this code:

<a class="dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown">Show menu</a>

<ul class="dropdown-menu" role="menu">
    <li>Link 1</li>
    <li>Link 2</li>
    <li>Link 3</li>
</ul>

Normally it works on click event, and you want it work on hover event. This is very simple, just use this javascript/jquery code:

$(document).ready(function () {
    $('.dropdown-toggle').mouseover(function() {
        $('.dropdown-menu').show();
    })

    $('.dropdown-toggle').mouseout(function() {
        t = setTimeout(function() {
            $('.dropdown-menu').hide();
        }, 100);

        $('.dropdown-menu').on('mouseenter', function() {
            $('.dropdown-menu').show();
            clearTimeout(t);
        }).on('mouseleave', function() {
            $('.dropdown-menu').hide();
        })
    })
})

This works very well and here is the explanation: we have a button, and a menu. When we hover the button we display the menu, and when we mouseout of the button we hide the menu after 100ms. If you wonder why i use that, is because you need time to drag the cursor from the button over the menu. When you are on the menu, the time is reset and you can stay there as many time as you want. When you exit the menu, we will hide the menu instantly without any timeout.

I've used this code in many projects, if you encounter any problem using it, feel free to ask me questions.

Java Pass Method as Parameter

Use the Observer pattern (sometimes also called Listener pattern):

interface ComponentDelegate {
    void doSomething(Component component);
}

public void setAllComponents(Component[] myComponentArray, ComponentDelegate delegate) {
    // ...
    delegate.doSomething(leaf);
}

setAllComponents(this.getComponents(), new ComponentDelegate() {
                                            void doSomething(Component component) {
                                                changeColor(component); // or do directly what you want
                                            }
                                       });

new ComponentDelegate()... declares an anonymous type implementing the interface.

Why does integer division in C# return an integer and not a float?

Each data type is capable of overloading each operator. If both the numerator and the denominator are integers, the integer type will perform the division operation and it will return an integer type. If you want floating point division, you must cast one or more of the number to floating point types before dividing them. For instance:

int x = 13;
int y = 4;
float x = (float)y / (float)z;

or, if you are using literals:

float x = 13f / 4f;

Keep in mind, floating points are not precise. If you care about precision, use something like the decimal type, instead.

VBA Print to PDF and Save with Automatic File Name

Hopefully this is self explanatory enough. Use the comments in the code to help understand what is happening. Pass a single cell to this function. The value of that cell will be the base file name. If the cell contains "AwesomeData" then we will try and create a file in the current users desktop called AwesomeData.pdf. If that already exists then try AwesomeData2.pdf and so on. In your code you could just replace the lines filename = Application..... with filename = GetFileName(Range("A1"))

Function GetFileName(rngNamedCell As Range) As String
    Dim strSaveDirectory As String: strSaveDirectory = ""
    Dim strFileName As String: strFileName = ""
    Dim strTestPath As String: strTestPath = ""
    Dim strFileBaseName As String: strFileBaseName = ""
    Dim strFilePath As String: strFilePath = ""
    Dim intFileCounterIndex As Integer: intFileCounterIndex = 1

    ' Get the users desktop directory.
    strSaveDirectory = Environ("USERPROFILE") & "\Desktop\"
    Debug.Print "Saving to: " & strSaveDirectory

    ' Base file name
    strFileBaseName = Trim(rngNamedCell.Value)
    Debug.Print "File Name will contain: " & strFileBaseName

    ' Loop until we find a free file number
    Do
        If intFileCounterIndex > 1 Then
            ' Build test path base on current counter exists.
            strTestPath = strSaveDirectory & strFileBaseName & Trim(Str(intFileCounterIndex)) & ".pdf"
        Else
            ' Build test path base just on base name to see if it exists.
            strTestPath = strSaveDirectory & strFileBaseName & ".pdf"
        End If

        If (Dir(strTestPath) = "") Then
            ' This file path does not currently exist. Use that.
            strFileName = strTestPath
        Else
            ' Increase the counter as we have not found a free file yet.
            intFileCounterIndex = intFileCounterIndex + 1
        End If

    Loop Until strFileName <> ""

    ' Found useable filename
    Debug.Print "Free file name: " & strFileName
    GetFileName = strFileName

End Function

The debug lines will help you figure out what is happening if you need to step through the code. Remove them as you see fit. I went a little crazy with the variables but it was to make this as clear as possible.

In Action

My cell O1 contained the string "FileName" without the quotes. Used this sub to call my function and it saved a file.

Sub Testing()
    Dim filename As String: filename = GetFileName(Range("o1"))

    ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:N24").ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF, _
                                              filename:=filename, _
                                              Quality:=xlQualityStandard, _
                                              IncludeDocProperties:=True, _
                                              IgnorePrintAreas:=False, _
                                              OpenAfterPublish:=False
End Sub

Where is your code located in reference to everything else? Perhaps you need to make a module if you have not already and move your existing code into there.

Force HTML5 youtube video

Inline tag is used to add another src of document to the current html element.

In your case an video of a youtube and we need to specify the html type(4 or 5) to the browser externally to the link

so add ?html=5 to the end of the link.. :)

angular.js ng-repeat li items with html content

ng-bind-html-unsafe is deprecated from 1.2. The correct answer should be currently:

HTML-side: (the same as the accepted answer stated):

<div ng-app ng-controller="MyCtrl">
   <ul>
      <li ng-repeat=" opt in opts" ng-bind-html-unsafe="opt.text">
        {{ opt.text }}
      </li>
   </ul>

   <p>{{opt}}</p>
</div>

But in the controller-side:

myApp.controller('myCtrl', ['$scope', '$sce', function($scope, $sce) {
// ...
   $scope.opts.map(function(opt) {
      opt = $sce.trustAsHtml(opt);
   });
}

SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to github.com:443

Since you're using LibreSSL, try re-installing curl with OpenSSL instead of Secure Transport.

Latest Brew

All options have been removed from the curl formula, so now you need to install via:

brew install curl-openssl

Older Brew

Install curl with --with-openssl:

brew reinstall curl --with-openssl

Note: If above won't work, check brew options curl to display install options specific to formula.

Here are few other suggestions:

  • Make sure you're not using http_proxy/https_proxy.
  • Use -v to curl for more verbose output.
  • Try using BSD curl at /usr/bin/curl, run which -a curl to list them all.
  • Make sure you haven't accidentally blocked curl in your firewall (such as Little Snitch).
  • Alternatively use wget.

How to set a CMake option() at command line

Delete the CMakeCache.txt file and try this:

cmake -G %1 -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON -DBUILD_STATIC_LIBS=ON -DBUILD_TESTS=ON ..

You have to enter all your command-line definitions before including the path.

Suppress output of a function

In case anyone's arriving here looking for a solution applicable to RMarkdown, this will suppress all output:

```{r error=FALSE, warning=FALSE, message=FALSE}
invisible({capture.output({
# Your code goes here
2 * 2
# etc
# etc
})})
```

The code will run, but the output will not be printed to the HTML document

How to delete a whole folder and content?

If you dont need to delete things recursively you can try something like this:

File file = new File(context.getExternalFilesDir(null), "");
    if (file != null && file.isDirectory()) {
        File[] files = file.listFiles();
        if(files != null) {
            for(File f : files) {
                f.delete();
            }
        }
    }

PHP fopen() Error: failed to open stream: Permission denied

You may need to change the permissions as an administrator. Open up terminal on your Mac and then open the directory that markers.xml is located in. Then type:

sudo chmod 777 markers.xml

You may be prompted for a password. Also, it could be the directories that don't allow full access. I'm not familiar with WordPress, so you may have to change the permission of each directory moving upward to the mysite directory.

How do I turn off Unicode in a VC++ project?

For whatever reason, I noticed that setting to unicode for "All Configurations" did not actually apply to all configurations.

Picture: Setting Configuragion In IDE

To confirm this, I would open the .vcxproj and confirm the correct token is in all 4 locations. In this photo, I am using unicode. So the string I am looking for is "Unicode". For you, you likely want it to say "MultiByte".

Picture: Confirming changes in configuration file

C++ deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*'

In fact a string constant literal is neither a const char * nor a char* but a char[]. Its quite strange but written down in the c++ specifications; If you modify it the behavior is undefined because the compiler may store it in the code segment.

How to index into a dictionary?

actually I found a novel solution that really helped me out, If you are especially concerned with the index of a certain value in a list or data set, you can just set the value of dictionary to that Index!:

Just watch:

list = ['a', 'b', 'c']
dictionary = {}
counter = 0
for i in list:
   dictionary[i] = counter
   counter += 1

print(dictionary) # dictionary = {'a':0, 'b':1, 'c':2}

Now through the power of hashmaps you can pull the index your entries in constant time (aka a whole lot faster)

What's is the difference between train, validation and test set, in neural networks?

The training and validation sets are used during training.

for each epoch
    for each training data instance
        propagate error through the network
        adjust the weights
        calculate the accuracy over training data
    for each validation data instance
        calculate the accuracy over the validation data
    if the threshold validation accuracy is met
        exit training
    else
        continue training

Once you're finished training, then you run against your testing set and verify that the accuracy is sufficient.

Training Set: this data set is used to adjust the weights on the neural network.

Validation Set: this data set is used to minimize overfitting. You're not adjusting the weights of the network with this data set, you're just verifying that any increase in accuracy over the training data set actually yields an increase in accuracy over a data set that has not been shown to the network before, or at least the network hasn't trained on it (i.e. validation data set). If the accuracy over the training data set increases, but the accuracy over the validation data set stays the same or decreases, then you're overfitting your neural network and you should stop training.

Testing Set: this data set is used only for testing the final solution in order to confirm the actual predictive power of the network.

Android 'Unable to add window -- token null is not for an application' exception

I'm guessing - are you trying to create Dialog using.

 getApplicationContext()
 mContext which is passed by activity.

if You displaying dialog non activity class then you have to pass activity as a parameter.

Activity activity=YourActivity.this;

Now it will be work great.

If you find any trouble then let me know.

Create SQLite database in android

To understand how to use sqlite database in android with best practices see - Android with sqlite database

There are few classes about which you should know and those will help you model your tables and models i.e android.provider.BaseColumns

Below is an example of a table

public class ProductTable implements BaseColumns {
  public static final String NAME = "name";
  public static final String PRICE = "price";
  public static final String TABLE_NAME = "products";

  public static final String CREATE_QUERY = "create table " + TABLE_NAME + " (" +
      _ID + " INTEGER, " +
      NAME + " TEXT, " +
      PRICE + " INTEGER)";

  public static final String DROP_QUERY = "drop table " + TABLE_NAME;
  public static final String SElECT_QUERY = "select * from " + TABLE_NAME;
}

Is it better to use "is" or "==" for number comparison in Python?

Others have answered your question, but I'll go into a little bit more detail:

Python's is compares identity - it asks the question "is this one thing actually the same object as this other thing" (similar to == in Java). So, there are some times when using is makes sense - the most common one being checking for None. Eg, foo is None. But, in general, it isn't what you want.

==, on the other hand, asks the question "is this one thing logically equivalent to this other thing". For example:

>>> [1, 2, 3] == [1, 2, 3]
True
>>> [1, 2, 3] is [1, 2, 3]
False

And this is true because classes can define the method they use to test for equality:

>>> class AlwaysEqual(object):
...     def __eq__(self, other):
...         return True
...
>>> always_equal = AlwaysEqual()
>>> always_equal == 42
True
>>> always_equal == None
True

But they cannot define the method used for testing identity (ie, they can't override is).

How to set layout_weight attribute dynamically from code?

If you have already defined your view in layout(xml) file and only want to change the weight pro grammatically, then then creating new LayoutParams overwrites other params defined in you xml file.

So first you should use "getLayoutParams" and then setLayoutParams

LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = (LinearLayout.LayoutParams) mButton.getLayoutParams(); params.weight = 4f; mButton.setLayoutParams(params);

Python dictionary replace values

You cannot select on specific values (or types of values). You'd either make a reverse index (map numbers back to (lists of) keys) or you have to loop through all values every time.

If you are processing numbers in arbitrary order anyway, you may as well loop through all items:

for key, value in inputdict.items():
    # do something with value
    inputdict[key] = newvalue

otherwise I'd go with the reverse index:

from collections import defaultdict

reverse = defaultdict(list)
for key, value in inputdict.items():
    reverse[value].append(key)

Now you can look up keys by value:

for key in reverse[value]:
    inputdict[key] = newvalue

Change the color of a bullet in a html list?

Why aren't python nested functions called closures?

def nested1(num1):
    print "nested1 has",num1
    def nested2(num2):
        print "nested2 has",num2,"and it can reach to",num1
        return num1+num2 #num1 referenced for reading here
    return nested2

Gives:

In [17]: my_func=nested1(8)
nested1 has 8

In [21]: my_func(5)
nested2 has 5 and it can reach to 8
Out[21]: 13

This is an example of what a closure is and how it can be used.

Converting integer to digit list

The shortest and best way is already answered, but the first thing I thought of was the mathematical way, so here it is:

def intlist(n):
    q = n
    ret = []
    while q != 0:
        q, r = divmod(q, 10) # Divide by 10, see the remainder
        ret.insert(0, r) # The remainder is the first to the right digit
    return ret

print intlist(3)
print '-'
print intlist(10)
print '--'
print intlist(137)

It's just another interesting approach, you definitely don't have to use such a thing in practical use cases.

Why is Spring's ApplicationContext.getBean considered bad?

There is another time when using getBean makes sense. If you're reconfiguring a system that already exists, where the dependencies are not explicitly called out in spring context files. You can start the process by putting in calls to getBean, so that you don't have to wire it all up at once. This way you can slowly build up your spring configuration putting each piece in place over time and getting the bits lined up properly. The calls to getBean will eventually be replaced, but as you understand the structure of the code, or lack there of, you can start the process of wiring more and more beans and using fewer and fewer calls to getBean.

how to toggle attr() in jquery

This answer is counting that the second parameter is useless when calling removeAttr! (as it was when this answer was posted) Do not use this otherwise!

Can't beat RienNeVaPlus's clean answer, but it does the job as well, it's basically a more compressed way to do the ternary operation:

$('.list-sort')[$('.list-sort').hasAttr('colspan') ?
    'removeAttr' : 'attr']('colspan', 6);

an extra variable can be used in these cases, when you need to use the reference more than once:

var $listSort = $('.list-sort');
$listSort[$listSort.hasAttr('colspan') ? 'removeAttr' : 'attr']('colspan', 6);

Where do I get servlet-api.jar from?

Make sure that you're using the same Servlet API specification that your Web container supports. Refer to this chart if you're using Tomcat: http://tomcat.apache.org/whichversion.html

The Web container that you use will definitely have the API jars you require.

Tomcat 6 for example has it in apache-tomcat-6.0.26/lib/servlet-api.jar

Is Python faster and lighter than C++?

Source size is not really a sensible thing to measure. For example, the following shell script:

cat foobar

is much shorter than either its Python or C++ equivalents.

What is the best way to seed a database in Rails?

Using seeds.rb file or FactoryBot is great, but these are respectively great for fixed data structures and testing.

The seedbank gem might give you more control and modularity to your seeds. It inserts rake tasks and you can also define dependencies between your seeds. Your rake task list will have these additions (e.g.):

rake db:seed # Load the seed data from db/seeds.rb, db/seeds/*.seeds.rb and db/seeds/ENVIRONMENT/*.seeds.rb. ENVIRONMENT is the current environment in Rails.env.
rake db:seed:bar # Load the seed data from db/seeds/bar.seeds.rb
rake db:seed:common # Load the seed data from db/seeds.rb and db/seeds/*.seeds.rb.
rake db:seed:development        # Load the seed data from db/seeds.rb, db/seeds/*.seeds.rb and db/seeds/development/*.seeds.rb.
rake db:seed:development:users # Load the seed data from db/seeds/development/users.seeds.rb
rake db:seed:foo # Load the seed data from db/seeds/foo.seeds.rb
rake db:seed:original # Load the seed data from db/seeds.rb

Android and Facebook share intent

Apparently Facebook no longer (as of 2014) allows you to customise the sharing screen, no matter if you are just opening sharer.php URL or using Android intents in more specialised ways. See for example these answers:

Anyway, using plain Intents, you can still share a URL, but not any default text with it, as billynomates commented. (Also, if you have no URL to share, just launching Facebook app with empty "Write Post" (i.e. status update) dialog is equally easy; use the code below but leave out EXTRA_TEXT.)

Here's the best solution I've found that does not involve using any Facebook SDKs.

This code opens the official Facebook app directly if it's installed, and otherwise falls back to opening sharer.php in a browser. (Most of the other solutions in this question bring up a huge "Complete action using…" dialog which isn't optimal at all!)

String urlToShare = "https://stackoverflow.com/questions/7545254";
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND);
intent.setType("text/plain");
// intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SUBJECT, "Foo bar"); // NB: has no effect!
intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TEXT, urlToShare);

// See if official Facebook app is found
boolean facebookAppFound = false;
List<ResolveInfo> matches = getPackageManager().queryIntentActivities(intent, 0);
for (ResolveInfo info : matches) {
    if (info.activityInfo.packageName.toLowerCase().startsWith("com.facebook.katana")) {
        intent.setPackage(info.activityInfo.packageName);
        facebookAppFound = true;
        break;
    }
}

// As fallback, launch sharer.php in a browser
if (!facebookAppFound) {
    String sharerUrl = "https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=" + urlToShare;
    intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(sharerUrl));
}

startActivity(intent);

(Regarding the com.facebook.katana package name, see MatheusJardimB's comment.)

The result looks like this on my Nexus 7 (Android 4.4) with Facebook app installed:

enter image description here

vi/vim editor, copy a block (not usual action)

It sounds like you want to place marks in the file.

mx places a mark named x under the cursor

y'x yanks everything between the cursor's current position and the line containing mark x.

You can use 'x to simply move the cursor to the line with your mark.

You can use `x (a back-tick) to move to the exact location of the mark.

One thing I do all the time is yank everything between the cursor and mark x into the clipboard.

You can do that like this:

"+y'x

NOTE: In some environments the clipboard buffer is represented by a * in stead of a +.

How to allow only numeric (0-9) in HTML inputbox using jQuery?

You can use on input event like this:

$(document).on("input", ".numeric", function() {
    this.value = this.value.replace(/\D/g,'');
});

But, what's this code privilege?

  • It works on mobile browsers(keydown and keyCode have problem).
  • It works on AJAX generated content too, because We're using "on".
  • Better performance than keydown, for example on paste event.

SVN upgrade working copy

If you have just upgraded to SVN 1.7 on your machine (like I just did), and have a lot of projects in your Eclipse workspace which need to be upgraded, you can do the following in a terminal window on Unix-baesd systems:

cd [eclipse/workspace] # <- you supply the actual path here

for file in `find . -depth 2 -name "*.svn"`; do svn upgrade `dirname $file` ; done;

After Googling a bit, I found what seems to be the equivalent for Windows users:

How do I use this JavaScript variable in HTML?

You cannot use js variables inside html. To add the content of the javascript variable to the html use innerHTML() or create any html tag, add the content of that variable to that created tag and append that tag to the body or any other existing tags in the html.

Converting array to list in Java

It seems little late but here are my two cents. We cannot have List<int> as int is a primitive type so we can only have List<Integer>.

Java 8 (int array)

int[] ints = new int[] {1,2,3,4,5};
List<Integer> list11 =Arrays.stream(ints).boxed().collect(Collectors.toList());

Java 8 and below (Integer array)

Integer[] integers = new Integer[] {1,2,3,4,5};
List<Integer> list21 =  Arrays.asList(integers); // returns a fixed-size list backed by the specified array.
List<Integer> list22 = new ArrayList<>(Arrays.asList(integers)); // good
List<Integer> list23 = Arrays.stream(integers).collect(Collectors.toList()); //Java 8 only

Need ArrayList and not List?

In case we want a specific implementation of List e.g. ArrayList then we can use toCollection as:

ArrayList<Integer> list24 = Arrays.stream(integers)
                          .collect(Collectors.toCollection(ArrayList::new));

Why list21 cannot be structurally modified?

When we use Arrays.asList the size of the returned list is fixed because the list returned is not java.util.ArrayList, but a private static class defined inside java.util.Arrays. So if we add or remove elements from the returned list, an UnsupportedOperationException will be thrown. So we should go with list22 when we want to modify the list. If we have Java8 then we can also go with list23.

To be clear list21 can be modified in sense that we can call list21.set(index,element) but this list may not be structurally modified i.e. cannot add or remove elements from the list. You can also check this answer of mine for more explanation.

If we want an immutable list then we can wrap it as:

List<Integer> list22 = Collections.unmodifiableList(Arrays.asList(integers));

Another point to note is that the method Collections.unmodifiableList returns an unmodifiable view of the specified list. An unmodifiable view collection is a collection that is unmodifiable and is also a view onto a backing collection. Note that changes to the backing collection might still be possible, and if they occur, they are visible through the unmodifiable view.

We can have a truly immutable list in Java 9 and 10.

Truly Immutable list

Java 9:

String[] objects = {"Apple", "Ball", "Cat"};
List<String> objectList = List.of(objects);

Java 10 (Truly Immutable list):

We can use List.of introduced in Java 9. Also other ways:

  1. List.copyOf(Arrays.asList(integers))
  2. Arrays.stream(integers).collect(Collectors.toUnmodifiableList());

Detect all changes to a <input type="text"> (immediately) using JQuery

We actually don't need to setup loops for detecting javaScript changes. We already setting up many event listeners to the element we want to detect. just triggering any un harmful event will make the job.

$("input[name='test-element']").on("propertychange change click keyup input paste blur", function(){
console.log("yeh thats worked!");
});

$("input[name='test-element']").val("test").trigger("blur");

and ofc this is only available if you have the full control on javascript changes on your project.

java collections - keyset() vs entrySet() in map

An Iterator moves forward only, if it read it once, it's done. Your

m.get(itr2.next());

is reading the next value of itr2.next();, that is why you are missing a few (actually not a few, every other) keys.

Python Dictionary contains List as Value - How to update?

An accessed dictionary value (a list in this case) is the original value, separate from the dictionary which is used to access it. You would increment the values in the list the same way whether it's in a dictionary or not:

l = dictionary.get('C1')
for i in range(len(l)):
    l[i] += 10

PHP mail function doesn't complete sending of e-mail

For those who do not want to use external mailers and want to mail() on a dedicated Linux server.

The way, how PHP mails, is described in php.ini in section [mail function].

Parameter sendmail-path describes how sendmail is called. The default value is sendmail -t -i, so if you get a working sendmail -t -i < message.txt in the Linux console - you will be done. You could also add mail.log to debug and be sure mail() is really called.

Different MTAs can implement sendmail. They just make a symbolic link to their binaries on that name. For example, in Debian the default is Postfix. Configure your MTA to send mail and test it from the console with sendmail -v -t -i < message.txt. File message.txt should contain all headers of a message and a body, destination address for the envelope will be taken from the To: header. Example:

From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]
Subject: Test mail via sendmail.

Text body.

I prefer to use ssmtp as MTA because it is simple and does not require running a daemon with opened ports. ssmtp fits only for sending mail from localhost. It also can send authenticated email via your account on a public mail service. Install ssmtp and edit configuration file /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf. To be able also to receive local system mail to Unix accounts (alerts to root from cron jobs, for example) configure /etc/ssmtp/revaliases file.

Here is my configuration for my account on Yandex mail:

[email protected]
mailhub=smtp.yandex.ru:465
FromLineOverride=YES
UseTLS=YES
[email protected]
AuthPass=password

How to establish ssh key pair when "Host key verification failed"

This issue arises when the host key is expired or changed. you can remove the keys that host is using and try to ssh again, so that you are adding new key that is known to both client and server.

You can check the keys associated with your hosts with cat /.ssh/known_hosts . Now, You can remove the hosts keys manually or using the ssh-keygen option. You can do either of the following option.

  1. Manual removal of keys

    vim /.ssh/known_hosts

delete the key that is associated with your host.

  1. Remove key using ssh-keygen

    ssh-keygen -R your_host_or_host_ip

This will remove your key associated with the host.

Now, you can ssh to your host as usual and you will be asked if you want to continue to this host. Once your enter yes, this host will be added to your/.ssh/known_hosts with updated key. By now, you should be your host.

Angular checkbox and ng-click

The order of execution of ng-click and ng-model is different with angular 1.2 vs 1.6

You must test, with 1.2 and 1.6,

for example, with angular 1.2, ng-click get execute before ng-model, with angular 1.6, ng-model maybe get excute before ng-click.

so you get 'true checked' / 'false uncheck' value maybe not you expect
