How to make MySQL table primary key auto increment with some prefix

Create a table with a normal numeric auto_increment ID, but either define it with ZEROFILL, or use LPAD to add zeroes when selecting. Then CONCAT the values to get your intended behavior. Example #1:

create table so (
 id int(3) unsigned zerofill not null auto_increment primary key,
 name varchar(30) not null
);

insert into so set name = 'John';
insert into so set name = 'Mark';

select concat('LHPL', id) as id, name from so;
+---------+------+
| id      | name |
+---------+------+
| LHPL001 | John |
| LHPL002 | Mark |
+---------+------+

Example #2:

create table so (
 id int unsigned not null auto_increment primary key,
 name varchar(30) not null
);

insert into so set name = 'John';
insert into so set name = 'Mark';

select concat('LHPL', LPAD(id, 3, 0)) as id, name from so;
+---------+------+
| id      | name |
+---------+------+
| LHPL001 | John |
| LHPL002 | Mark |
+---------+------+

How can I add a background thread to flask?

Your additional threads must be initiated from the same app that is called by the WSGI server.

The example below creates a background thread that executes every 5 seconds and manipulates data structures that are also available to Flask routed functions.

import threading
import atexit
from flask import Flask

POOL_TIME = 5 #Seconds

# variables that are accessible from anywhere
commonDataStruct = {}
# lock to control access to variable
dataLock = threading.Lock()
# thread handler
yourThread = threading.Thread()

def create_app():
    app = Flask(__name__)

    def interrupt():
        global yourThread
        yourThread.cancel()

    def doStuff():
        global commonDataStruct
        global yourThread
        with dataLock:
        # Do your stuff with commonDataStruct Here

        # Set the next thread to happen
        yourThread = threading.Timer(POOL_TIME, doStuff, ())
        yourThread.start()

    def doStuffStart():
        # Do initialisation stuff here
        global yourThread
        # Create your thread
        yourThread = threading.Timer(POOL_TIME, doStuff, ())
        yourThread.start()

    # Initiate
    doStuffStart()
    # When you kill Flask (SIGTERM), clear the trigger for the next thread
    atexit.register(interrupt)
    return app

app = create_app()

Call it from Gunicorn with something like this:

gunicorn -b 0.0.0.0:5000 --log-config log.conf --pid=app.pid myfile:app

Is there a "theirs" version of "git merge -s ours"?

Add the -X option to theirs. For example:

git checkout branchA
git merge -X theirs branchB

Everything will merge in the desired way.

The only thing I've seen cause problems is if files were deleted from branchB. They show up as conflicts if something other than git did the removal.

The fix is easy. Just run git rm with the name of any files that were deleted:

git rm {DELETED-FILE-NAME}

After that, the -X theirs should work as expected.

Of course, doing the actual removal with the git rm command will prevent the conflict from happening in the first place.

Note: A longer form option also exists.

To use it, replace:

-X theirs

with:

--strategy-option=theirs

Split a vector into chunks

A one-liner splitting d into chunks of size 20:

split(d, ceiling(seq_along(d)/20))

java, get set methods

your panel class don't have a constructor that accepts a string

Java: Multiple class declarations in one file

1.Is there a tidy name for this technique (analogous to inner, nested, anonymous)?

Multi-class single-file demo.

2.The JLS says the system may enforce the restriction that these secondary classes can't be referred to by code in other compilation units of the package, e.g., they can't be treated as package-private. Is that really something that changes between Java implementations?

I'm not aware of any which don't have that restriction - all the file based compilers won't allow you to refer to source code classes in files which are not named the same as the class name. ( if you compile a multi-class file, and put the classes on the class path, then any compiler will find them )

Various ways to remove local Git changes

As with everything in git there are multiple ways of doing it. The two commands you used are one way of doing it. Another thing you could have done is simply stash them with git stash -u. The -u makes sure that newly added files (untracked) are also included.

The handy thing about git stash -u is that

  1. it is probably the simplest (only?) single command to accomplish your goal
  2. if you change your mind afterwards you get all your work back with git stash pop (it's like deleting an email in gmail where you can just undo if you change your mind afterwards)

As of your other question git reset --hard won't remove the untracked files so you would still need the git clean -f. But a git stash -u might be the most convenient.

Bash function to find newest file matching pattern

Use the find command.

Assuming you're using Bash 4.2+, use -printf '%T+ %p\n' for file timestamp value.

find $DIR -type f -printf '%T+ %p\n' | sort -r | head -n 1 | cut -d' ' -f2

Example:

find ~/Downloads -type f -printf '%T+ %p\n' | sort -r | head -n 1 | cut -d' ' -f2

For a more useful script, see the find-latest script here: https://github.com/l3x/helpers

Convert char array to single int?

Long story short you have to use atoi()

ed:

If you are interested in doing this the right way :

char szNos[] = "12345";
char *pNext;
long output;
output = strtol (szNos, &pNext, 10); // input, ptr to next char in szNos (null here), base

How to correctly link php-fpm and Nginx Docker containers?

As pointed out before, the problem was that the files were not visible by the fpm container. However to share data among containers the recommended pattern is using data-only containers (as explained in this article).

Long story short: create a container that just holds your data, share it with a volume, and link this volume in your apps with volumes_from.

Using compose (1.6.2 in my machine), the docker-compose.yml file would read:

version: "2"
services:
  nginx:
    build:
      context: .
      dockerfile: nginx/Dockerfile
    ports:
      - "80:80"
    links:
      - fpm
    volumes_from:
      - data
  fpm:
    image: php:fpm
    volumes_from:
      - data
  data:
    build:
      context: .
      dockerfile: data/Dockerfile
    volumes:
      - /var/www/html

Note that data publishes a volume that is linked to the nginx and fpm services. Then the Dockerfile for the data service, that contains your source code:

FROM busybox

# content
ADD path/to/source /var/www/html

And the Dockerfile for nginx, that just replaces the default config:

FROM nginx

# config
ADD config/default.conf /etc/nginx/conf.d

For the sake of completion, here's the config file required for the example to work:

server {
    listen 0.0.0.0:80;

    root /var/www/html;

    location / {
        index index.php index.html;
    }

    location ~ \.php$ {
        include fastcgi_params;
        fastcgi_pass fpm:9000;
        fastcgi_index index.php;
        fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root/$fastcgi_script_name;
    }
}

which just tells nginx to use the shared volume as document root, and sets the right config for nginx to be able to communicate with the fpm container (i.e.: the right HOST:PORT, which is fpm:9000 thanks to the hostnames defined by compose, and the SCRIPT_FILENAME).

When to encode space to plus (+) or %20?

+ means a space only in application/x-www-form-urlencoded content, such as the query part of a URL:

http://www.example.com/path/foo+bar/path?query+name=query+value

In this URL, the parameter name is query name with a space and the value is query value with a space, but the folder name in the path is literally foo+bar, not foo bar.

%20 is a valid way to encode a space in either of these contexts. So if you need to URL-encode a string for inclusion in part of a URL, it is always safe to replace spaces with %20 and pluses with %2B. This is what eg. encodeURIComponent() does in JavaScript. Unfortunately it's not what urlencode does in PHP (rawurlencode is safer).

Resize background image in div using css

i would recommend using this:

  background-repeat:no-repeat;
  background-image: url(your file location here);
  background-size:cover;(will only work with css3)

hope it helps :D

And if this doesnt support your needs just say it: i can make a jquery for multibrowser support.

C string append

I write a function support dynamic variable string append, like PHP str append: str + str + ... etc.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdarg.h>

int str_append(char **json, const char *format, ...)
{
    char *str = NULL;
    char *old_json = NULL, *new_json = NULL;

    va_list arg_ptr;
    va_start(arg_ptr, format);
    vasprintf(&str, format, arg_ptr);

    // save old json
    asprintf(&old_json, "%s", (*json == NULL ? "" : *json));

    // calloc new json memory
    new_json = (char *)calloc(strlen(old_json) + strlen(str) + 1, sizeof(char));

    strcat(new_json, old_json);
    strcat(new_json, str);

    if (*json) free(*json);
    *json = new_json;

    free(old_json);
    free(str);

    return 0;
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    char *json = NULL;

    str_append(&json, "name: %d, %d, %d", 1, 2, 3);
    str_append(&json, "sex: %s", "male");
    str_append(&json, "end");
    str_append(&json, "");
    str_append(&json, "{\"ret\":true}");

    int i;
    for (i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
        str_append(&json, "id-%d", i);
    }

    printf("%s\n", json);

    if (json) free(json);

    return 0;
}

Change Select List Option background colour on hover

This can be done by implementing an inset box shadow. eg:

select.decorated option:hover {
    box-shadow: 0 0 10px 100px #1882A8 inset;
}

Here, .decorated is a class assigned to the select box.

Hope you got the point.

How to file split at a line number

file_name=test.log

# set first K lines:
K=1000

# line count (N):
N=$(wc -l < $file_name)

# length of the bottom file:
L=$(( $N - $K ))

# create the top of file:
head -n $K $file_name > top_$file_name

# create bottom of file:
tail -n $L $file_name > bottom_$file_name

Also, on second thought, split will work in your case, since the first split is larger than the second. Split puts the balance of the input into the last split, so

split -l 300000 file_name

will output xaa with 300k lines and xab with 100k lines, for an input with 400k lines.

Command line tool to dump Windows DLL version?

You can write a VBScript script to get the file version info:

VersionInfo.vbs

set args = WScript.Arguments
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
WScript.Echo fso.GetFileVersion(args(0))
Wscript.Quit

You can call this from the command line like this:

cscript //nologo VersionInfo.vbs C:\Path\To\MyFile.dll

I see you have all the settings right. You just need to end the local web server and start it again with

php artisan serve

Everytime you change your .env file, you need tor restart the server for the new options to take effect.

Or clear and cache your configuration with

php artisan config:cache

PHP CSV string to array

Try this, it's working for me:

$delimiter = ",";
  $enclosure = '"';
  $escape = "\\" ;
  $rows = array_filter(explode(PHP_EOL, $content));
  $header = NULL;
  $data = [];

  foreach($rows as $row)

    if(!$header) {
      $header = $row;
    } else {
      $data[] = array_combine($header, $row);
    }

How to use pip with python 3.4 on windows?

Usage of pip for installation of packages in Python 3

Step 1: Install Python 3. Yes, by default an application file pip3.exe is already located there in the path (E.g.):

C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python36-32/Scripts

Step 2: Go to

>Control Panel (Local Machine) > System > Advanced system settings >

>Click on `Environment Variables` >
Set a New User Variable, for this click `New` >
Write new 'Variable name' as "PYTHON_SCRIPTS" >
Copy that path of `pip3.exe` and paste within variable value > `OK` >

>Below again find out and click on `Path` under 'system variables' >
Edit this path >
Within 'Variable value' append and paste the same path of `pip3.exe` after putting a ';' >
Click `OK`/`Apply` and come out.

Step 3: Now, open cmd bash/shell by Pressing key Windows+R.

> Write 'pip3' and press 'Enter'. If pip3 is recognized you can go ahead.

Step 4: In this same cmd

> Write path of the `pip3.exe` followed by `/pip install 'package name'`

As Example just write:

C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python36-32/Scripts/pip install matplotlib

Press Enter now. The Package matplotlib will start getting downloaded.

Further, for upgrading any package

Open cmd bash/shell again, then

type that path of pip3.exe followed by /pip install --upgrade 'package name' Press Enter.

As Example just write:

C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python36-32/Scripts/pip install --upgrade matplotlib

Upgrading of the package will start :)

Bat file to run a .exe at the command prompt

Just stick in a file and call it "ServiceModelSamples.bat" or something.

You could add "@echo off" as line one, so the command doesn't get printed to the screen:

@echo off
svcutil.exe /language:cs /out:generatedProxy.cs /config:app.config http://localhost:8000/ServiceModelSamples/service

ArrayBuffer to base64 encoded string

};

reader.readAsDataURL(blob);

What's the difference between session.persist() and session.save() in Hibernate?

save()- As the method name suggests, hibernate save() can be used to save entity to database. We can invoke this method outside a transaction. If we use this without transaction and we have cascading between entities, then only the primary entity gets saved unless we flush the session.

persist()-Hibernate persist is similar to save (with transaction) and it adds the entity object to the persistent context, so any further changes are tracked. If the object properties are changed before the transaction is committed or session is flushed, it will also be saved into database. Also, we can use persist() method only within the boundary of a transaction, so it’s safe and takes care of any cascaded objects. Finally, persist doesn't return anything so we need to use the persisted object to get the generated identifier value.

Method has the same erasure as another method in type

Java generics uses type erasure. The bit in the angle brackets (<Integer> and <String>) gets removed, so you'd end up with two methods that have an identical signature (the add(Set) you see in the error). That's not allowed because the runtime wouldn't know which to use for each case.

If Java ever gets reified generics, then you could do this, but that's probably unlikely now.

Where do I put my php files to have Xampp parse them?

Look into the httpd.conf and/or httpd-vhosts.conf files and search for the DocumentRoot entry. If you configure multiple virtual hosts, there may be more than one of those, separated in <VirtualHost> tags.

Disable SSL fallback and use only TLS for outbound connections in .NET? (Poodle mitigation)

If you're curious which protocols .NET supports, you can try HttpClient out on https://www.howsmyssl.com/

// set proxy if you need to
// WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy = new WebProxy("http://localhost:3128");

File.WriteAllText("howsmyssl-httpclient.html", new HttpClient().GetStringAsync("https://www.howsmyssl.com").Result);

// alternative using WebClient for older framework versions
// new WebClient().DownloadFile("https://www.howsmyssl.com/", "howsmyssl-webclient.html");

The result is damning:

Your client is using TLS 1.0, which is very old, possibly susceptible to the BEAST attack, and doesn't have the best cipher suites available on it. Additions like AES-GCM, and SHA256 to replace MD5-SHA-1 are unavailable to a TLS 1.0 client as well as many more modern cipher suites.

As Eddie explains above, you can enable better protocols manually:

System.Net.ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls12 | SecurityProtocolType.Tls11;

I don't know why it uses bad protocols out-the-box. That seems a poor setup choice, tantamount to a major security bug (I bet plenty of applications don't change the default). How can we report it?

JavaScript error (Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input)

I got this error when I was trying to write a javascript bookmarklet. I couldn't figure out what was causing it. But eventually I tried URL encoding the bookmarklet, via the following website: http://mrcoles.com/bookmarklet/ and then the error went away, so it must have been a problem with certain characters in the javascript code being interpreted as special URL control characters.

Count number of occurrences of a pattern in a file (even on same line)

To count all occurrences, use -o. Try this:

echo afoobarfoobar | grep -o foo | wc -l

And man grep of course (:

Update

Some suggest to use just grep -co foo instead of grep -o foo | wc -l.

Don't.

This shortcut won't work in all cases. Man page says:

-c print a count of matching lines

Difference in these approaches is illustrated below:

1.

$ echo afoobarfoobar | grep -oc foo
1

As soon as the match is found in the line (a{foo}barfoobar) the searching stops. Only one line was checked and it matched, so the output is 1. Actually -o is ignored here and you could just use grep -c instead.

2.

$ echo afoobarfoobar | grep -o foo
foo
foo

$ echo afoobarfoobar | grep -o foo | wc -l
2

Two matches are found in the line (a{foo}bar{foo}bar) because we explicitly asked to find every occurrence (-o). Every occurence is printed on a separate line, and wc -l just counts the number of lines in the output.

Newline in JLabel

Surround the string with <html></html> and break the lines with <br/>.

JLabel l = new JLabel("<html>Hello World!<br/>blahblahblah</html>", SwingConstants.CENTER);

Insert content into iFrame

Wait, are you really needing to render it using javascript?

Be aware that in HTML5 there is srcdoc, which can do that for you! (The drawback is that IE/EDGE does not support it yet https://caniuse.com/#feat=iframe-srcdoc)

See here [srcdoc]: https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_iframe_srcdoc.asp

Another thing to note is that if you want to avoid the interference of the js code inside and outside you should consider using the sandbox mode.

See here [sandbox]: https://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_iframe_sandbox.asp

Assert that a method was called in a Python unit test

Yes, I can give you the outline but my Python is a bit rusty and I'm too busy to explain in detail.

Basically, you need to put a proxy in the method that will call the original, eg:

 class fred(object):
   def blog(self):
     print "We Blog"

 class methCallLogger(object):
   def __init__(self, meth):
     self.meth = meth

   def __call__(self, code=None):
     self.meth()
     # would also log the fact that it invoked the method

 #example
 f = fred()
 f.blog = methCallLogger(f.blog)

This StackOverflow answer about callable may help you understand the above.

In more detail:

Although the answer was accepted, due to the interesting discussion with Glenn and having a few minutes free, I wanted to enlarge on my answer:

# helper class defined elsewhere
class methCallLogger(object):
   def __init__(self, meth):
     self.meth = meth
     self.was_called = False

   def __call__(self, code=None):
     self.meth()
     self.was_called = True

#example
class fred(object):
   def blog(self):
     print "We Blog"

f = fred()
g = fred()
f.blog = methCallLogger(f.blog)
g.blog = methCallLogger(g.blog)
f.blog()
assert(f.blog.was_called)
assert(not g.blog.was_called)

What is "origin" in Git?

The best answer here:

https://www.git-tower.com/learn/git/glossary/origin

In Git, "origin" is a shorthand name for the remote repository that a project was originally cloned from. More precisely, it is used instead of that original repository's URL - and thereby makes referencing much easier.

I know this is an old question, but I encountered a similar problem that I did solve only with CSS. Here is my blog post that discusses the solution. Included in the post is a live example. Code is reposted below.

Dynamic creation of table with DOM

You must create td and text nodes within loop. Your code creates only 2 td, so only 2 are visible. Example:

var table = document.createElement('table');
for (var i = 1; i < 4; i++){
    var tr = document.createElement('tr');

    var td1 = document.createElement('td');
    var td2 = document.createElement('td');

    var text1 = document.createTextNode('Text1');
    var text2 = document.createTextNode('Text2');

    td1.appendChild(text1);
    td2.appendChild(text2);
    tr.appendChild(td1);
    tr.appendChild(td2);

    table.appendChild(tr);
}
document.body.appendChild(table);

Clean out Eclipse workspace metadata

The only way I know to deal with this is to create a new workspace, import projects from the polluted workspace, reconstructing all my settings (a major pain) and then delete the old workspace. Is there an easier way to deal with this?

For synchronizing or restoring all our settings we use Workspace Mechanic. Once all the settings are recorded its one click and all settings are restored... You can also setup a server which provides those settings for all users.

When to use "ON UPDATE CASCADE"

A few days ago I've had an issue with triggers, and I've figured out that ON UPDATE CASCADE can be useful. Take a look at this example (PostgreSQL):

CREATE TABLE club
(
    key SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    name TEXT UNIQUE
);

CREATE TABLE band
(
    key SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    name TEXT UNIQUE
);

CREATE TABLE concert
(
    key SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    club_name TEXT REFERENCES club(name) ON UPDATE CASCADE,
    band_name TEXT REFERENCES band(name) ON UPDATE CASCADE,
    concert_date DATE
);

In my issue, I had to define some additional operations (trigger) for updating the concert's table. Those operations had to modify club_name and band_name. I was unable to do it, because of reference. I couldn't modify concert and then deal with club and band tables. I couldn't also do it the other way. ON UPDATE CASCADE was the key to solve the problem.

Encrypting & Decrypting a String in C#

If you are targeting ASP.NET Core that does not support RijndaelManaged yet, you can use IDataProtectionProvider.

First, configure your application to use data protection:

public class Startup
{
    public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
    {
        services.AddDataProtection();
    }
    // ...
}

Then you'll be able to inject IDataProtectionProvider instance and use it to encrypt/decrypt data:

public class MyService : IService
{
    private const string Purpose = "my protection purpose";
    private readonly IDataProtectionProvider _provider;

    public MyService(IDataProtectionProvider provider)
    {
        _provider = provider;
    }

    public string Encrypt(string plainText)
    {
        var protector = _provider.CreateProtector(Purpose);
        return protector.Protect(plainText);
    }

    public string Decrypt(string cipherText)
    {
        var protector = _provider.CreateProtector(Purpose);
        return protector.Unprotect(cipherText);
    }
}

See this article for more details.

error: passing xxx as 'this' argument of xxx discards qualifiers

Actually the C++ standard (i.e. C++ 0x draft) says (tnx to @Xeo & @Ben Voigt for pointing that out to me):

23.2.4 Associative containers
5 For set and multiset the value type is the same as the key type. For map and multimap it is equal to pair. Keys in an associative container are immutable.
6 iterator of an associative container is of the bidirectional iterator category. For associative containers where the value type is the same as the key type, both iterator and const_iterator are constant iterators. It is unspecified whether or not iterator and const_iterator are the same type.

So VC++ 2008 Dinkumware implementation is faulty.

Old answer:

You got that error because in certain implementations of the std lib the set::iterator is the same as set::const_iterator.

For example libstdc++ (shipped with g++) has it (see here for the entire source code):

typedef typename _Rep_type::const_iterator            iterator;
typedef typename _Rep_type::const_iterator            const_iterator;

And in SGI's docs it states:

iterator Container Iterator used to iterate through a set.
const_iterator Container Const iterator used to iterate through a set. (Iterator and const_iterator are the same type.)

On the other hand VC++ 2008 Express compiles your code without complaining that you're calling non const methods on set::iterators.

How to retrieve the dimensions of a view?

ViewTreeObserver and onWindowFocusChanged() are not so necessary at all.

If you inflate the TextView as layout and/or put some content in it and set LayoutParams then you can use getMeasuredHeight() and getMeasuredWidth().

BUT you have to be careful with LinearLayouts (maybe also other ViewGroups). The issue there is, that you can get the width and height after onWindowFocusChanged() but if you try to add some views in it, then you can't get that information until everything have been drawn. I was trying to add multiple TextViews to LinearLayouts to mimic a FlowLayout (wrapping style) and so couldn't use Listeners. Once the process is started, it should continue synchronously. So in such case, you might want to keep the width in a variable to use it later, as during adding views to layout, you might need it.

    LinkedHashMap<K,V> sortedMap = new LinkedHashMap<K,V>();
    for(K key: keys){
        sortedMap.put(key, map.get(key));

    return sortedMap;
}

here is the using example as the following

LinkedHashMap<String, Boolean> ligList = new LinkedHashMap<String, Boolean>();

Get the IP Address of local computer

Also, note that "the local IP" might not be a particularly unique thing. If you are on several physical networks (wired+wireless+bluetooth, for example, or a server with lots of Ethernet cards, etc.), or have TAP/TUN interfaces setup, your machine can easily have a whole host of interfaces.

How to Implement DOM Data Binding in JavaScript

Here's an idea using Object.defineProperty which directly modifies the way a property is accessed.

Code:

function bind(base, el, varname) {
    Object.defineProperty(base, varname, {
        get: () => {
            return el.value;
        },
        set: (value) => {
            el.value = value;
        }
    })
}

Usage:

var p = new some_class();
bind(p,document.getElementById("someID"),'variable');

p.variable="yes"

Pure Javascript Create Element Solution

function createElement(){
    var element  = document.createElement(arguments[0]),
        text     = arguments[1],
        attr     = arguments[2],
        append   = arguments[3],
        appendTo = arguments[4];

    for(var key = 0; key < Object.keys(attr).length ; key++){
        var name = Object.keys(attr)[key],
             value = attr[name],
             tempAttr = document.createAttribute(name);
             tempAttr.value = value;
        element.setAttributeNode(tempAttr)
    }

    if(append){
        for(var _key = 0; _key < append.length; _key++) {
            element.appendChild(append[_key]);
        }
    }

    if(text) element.appendChild(document.createTextNode(text));

    if(appendTo){
        var target = appendTo === 'body' ? document.body : document.getElementById(appendTo);
        target.appendChild(element)
    }

    return element;
}

lets see how we make this

<select name="drop1" id="Select1">
  <option value="volvo">Volvo</option>
  <option value="saab">Saab</option>
  <option value="mercedes">Mercedes</option>
  <option value="audi">Audi</option>
</select>

here's how it works

    var options = [
        createElement('option', 'Volvo', {value: 'volvo'}),
        createElement('option', 'Saab', {value: 'saab'}),
        createElement('option', 'Mercedes', {value: 'mercedes'}),
        createElement('option', 'Audi', {value: 'audi'})
    ];

    createElement('select', null, // 'select' = name of element to create, null = no text to insert
        {id: 'Select1', name: 'drop1'}, // Attributes to attach
        [options[0], options[1], options[2], options[3]], // append all 4 elements
        'body' // append final element to body - this also takes a element by id without the #
    );

this is the params

createElement('tagName', 'Text to Insert', {any: 'attribute', here: 'like', id: 'mainContainer'}, [elements, to, append, to, this, element], 'body || container = where to append this element');

This function would suit if you have to append many element, if there is any way to improve this answer please let me know.

Difference between document.addEventListener and window.addEventListener?

The document and window are different objects and they have some different events. Using addEventListener() on them listens to events destined for a different object. You should use the one that actually has the event you are interested in.

For example, there is a "resize" event on the window object that is not on the document object.

For example, the "DOMContentLoaded" event is only on the document object.

So basically, you need to know which object receives the event you are interested in and use .addEventListener() on that particular object.

Here's an interesting chart that shows which types of objects create which types of events: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/DOM/DOM_event_reference

If you are listening to a propagated event (such as the click event), then you can listen for that event on either the document object or the window object. The only main difference for propagated events is in timing. The event will hit the document object before the window object since it occurs first in the hierarchy, but that difference is usually immaterial so you can pick either. I find it generally better to pick the closest object to the source of the event that meets your needs when handling propagated events. That would suggest that you pick document over window when either will work. But, I'd often move even closer to the source and use document.body or even some closer common parent in the document (if possible).

How to save python screen output to a text file

abarnert's answer is very good and pythonic. Another completely different route (not in python) is to let bash do this for you:

$ python myscript.py > myoutput.txt

This works in general to put all the output of a cli program (python, perl, php, java, binary, or whatever) into a file, see How to save entire output of bash script to file for more.

How do I obtain crash-data from my Android application?

Ok, well I looked at the provided samples from rrainn and Soonil, and I found a solution that does not mess up error handling.

I modified the CustomExceptionHandler so it stores the original UncaughtExceptionHandler from the Thread we associate the new one. At the end of the new "uncaughtException"- Method I just call the old function using the stored UncaughtExceptionHandler.

In the DefaultExceptionHandler class you need sth. like this:

public class DefaultExceptionHandler implements UncaughtExceptionHandler{
  private UncaughtExceptionHandler mDefaultExceptionHandler;

  //constructor
  public DefaultExceptionHandler(UncaughtExceptionHandler pDefaultExceptionHandler)
  {
       mDefaultExceptionHandler= pDefaultExceptionHandler;
  }
  public void uncaughtException(Thread t, Throwable e) {
        //do some action like writing to file or upload somewhere

        //call original handler
        mStandardEH.uncaughtException(t, e);

        // cleanup, don't know if really required
        t.getThreadGroup().destroy();
  }
}

With that modification on the code at http://code.google.com/p/android-remote-stacktrace you have a good working base for logging in the field to your webserver or to sd-card.

Add space between two particular <td>s

my choice was to add a td between the two td tags and set the width to 25px. It can be more or less to your liking. This may be cheesy but it is simple and it works.

How to show a dialog to confirm that the user wishes to exit an Android Activity?

I like a @GLee approach and using it with fragment like below.

@Override
public void onBackPressed() {
    if(isTaskRoot()) {
        new ExitDialogFragment().show(getSupportFragmentManager(), null);
    } else {
        super.onBackPressed();
    }
}

Dialog using Fragment:

public class ExitDialogFragment extends DialogFragment {

    @Override
    public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        return new AlertDialog.Builder(getActivity())
            .setTitle(R.string.exit_question)
            .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.yes, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    getActivity().finish();
                }
            })
            .setNegativeButton(android.R.string.no, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    getDialog().cancel();
                }
            })
            .create();

Is there a way to create multiline comments in Python?

In Python 2.7 the multiline comment is:

"""
This is a
multilline comment
"""

In case you are inside a class you should tab it properly.

For example:

class weather2():
   """

       world.url = url
       result = requests.get(url)
       return result.status_code
   """

Percentage width in a RelativeLayout

You can use PercentRelativeLayout, It is a recent undocumented addition to the Design Support Library, enables the ability to specify not only elements relative to each other but also the total percentage of available space.

Subclass of RelativeLayout that supports percentage based dimensions and margins. You can specify dimension or a margin of child by using attributes with "Percent" suffix.

<android.support.percent.PercentRelativeLayout
     xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
     xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
     android:layout_width="match_parent"
     android:layout_height="match_parent">
  <ImageView
      android:layout_width="match_parent"
      android:layout_height="match_parent"
      app:layout_widthPercent="50%"
      app:layout_heightPercent="50%"
      app:layout_marginTopPercent="25%"
      app:layout_marginLeftPercent="25%"/>
</android.support.percent.PercentFrameLayout>

The Percent package provides APIs to support adding and managing percentage based dimensions in your app.

To use, you need to add this library to your Gradle dependency list:

dependencies {
    compile 'com.android.support:percent:22.2.0'//23.1.1
}

What is the Maximum Size that an Array can hold?

Here is an answer to your question that goes into detail: http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t372598-maximum-size-of-byte-array.html

You may want to mention which version of .NET you are using and your memory size.

You will be stuck to a 2G, for your application, limit though, so it depends on what is in your array.

How to save picture to iPhone photo library?

You can use this function:

UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum(UIImage *image,
                               id completionTarget,
                               SEL completionSelector,
                               void *contextInfo);

You only need completionTarget, completionSelector and contextInfo if you want to be notified when the UIImage is done saving, otherwise you can pass in nil.

See the official documentation for UIImageWriteToSavedPhotosAlbum().

How to resize image (Bitmap) to a given size?

    float ratio = Math.min(
            (float) maxImageSize / realImage.getWidth(),
            (float) maxImageSize / realImage.getHeight());
    int width = Math.round((float) ratio * realImage.getWidth());
    int height = Math.round((float) ratio * realImage.getHeight());

    Bitmap newBitmap = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(realImage, width,
            height, filter);
    return newBitmap;

Difference between save and saveAndFlush in Spring data jpa

Depending on the hibernate flush mode that you are using (AUTO is the default) save may or may not write your changes to the DB straight away. When you call saveAndFlush you are enforcing the synchronization of your model state with the DB.

If you use flush mode AUTO and you are using your application to first save and then select the data again, you will not see a difference in bahvior between save() and saveAndFlush() because the select triggers a flush first. See the documention.

@font-face not working

I was having this same issue and I thought I'd share my solution as I didn't see anyone address this problem specifically.

The problem was I wasn't using the correct path. My CSS looked like this:

@font-face {
font-family: 'sonhoregular';
src: url('fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.eot');
src: url('fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.eot?') format('embedded-opentype'),
     url('fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.woff2') format('woff2'),
     url('fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
     url('fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
     url('fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.svg#vtks_sonhoregular') format('svg');
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;

The problem with the path is that I am referring to the font from my CSS file, which is in my CSS folder. I needed to come up a level first, then into the fonts folder. This is what it looks like now, and works great.

@font-face {
font-family: 'sonhoregular';
src: url('../fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.eot');
src: url('../fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.eot?') format('embedded-opentype'),
     url('../fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.woff2') format('woff2'),
     url('../fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
     url('../fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
     url('../fonts/vtkssonho-webfont.svg#vtks_sonhoregular') format('svg');
font-weight: normal;
font-style: normal;

I hope this helps someone out!

Java 8 LocalDate Jackson format

In configuration class define LocalDateSerializer and LocalDateDeserializer class and register them to ObjectMapper via JavaTimeModule like below:

@Configuration
public class AppConfig
{
@Bean
    public ObjectMapper objectMapper()
    {
        ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
        mapper.setSerializationInclusion(Include.NON_EMPTY);
        //other mapper configs
        // Customize de-serialization

        JavaTimeModule javaTimeModule = new JavaTimeModule();
        javaTimeModule.addSerializer(LocalDate.class, new LocalDateSerializer());
        javaTimeModule.addDeserializer(LocalDate.class, new LocalDateDeserializer());
        mapper.registerModule(javaTimeModule);

        return mapper;
    }

    public class LocalDateSerializer extends JsonSerializer<LocalDate> {
        @Override
        public void serialize(LocalDate value, JsonGenerator gen, SerializerProvider serializers) throws IOException {
            gen.writeString(value.format(Constant.DATE_TIME_FORMATTER));
        }
    }

    public class LocalDateDeserializer extends JsonDeserializer<LocalDate> {

        @Override
        public LocalDate deserialize(JsonParser p, DeserializationContext ctxt) throws IOException {
            return LocalDate.parse(p.getValueAsString(), Constant.DATE_TIME_FORMATTER);
        }
    }
}

Python loop that also accesses previous and next values

Solutions until now only deal with lists, and most are copying the list. In my experience a lot of times that isn't possible.

Also, they don't deal with the fact that you can have repeated elements in the list.

The title of your question says "Previous and next values inside a loop", but if you run most answers here inside a loop, you'll end up iterating over the entire list again on each element to find it.

So I've just created a function that. using the itertools module, splits and slices the iterable, and generates tuples with the previous and next elements together. Not exactly what your code does, but it is worth taking a look, because it can probably solve your problem.

from itertools import tee, islice, chain, izip

def previous_and_next(some_iterable):
    prevs, items, nexts = tee(some_iterable, 3)
    prevs = chain([None], prevs)
    nexts = chain(islice(nexts, 1, None), [None])
    return izip(prevs, items, nexts)

Then use it in a loop, and you'll have previous and next items in it:

mylist = ['banana', 'orange', 'apple', 'kiwi', 'tomato']

for previous, item, nxt in previous_and_next(mylist):
    print "Item is now", item, "next is", nxt, "previous is", previous

The results:

Item is now banana next is orange previous is None
Item is now orange next is apple previous is banana
Item is now apple next is kiwi previous is orange
Item is now kiwi next is tomato previous is apple
Item is now tomato next is None previous is kiwi

It'll work with any size list (because it doesn't copy the list), and with any iterable (files, sets, etc). This way you can just iterate over the sequence, and have the previous and next items available inside the loop. No need to search again for the item in the sequence.

A short explanation of the code:

  • tee is used to efficiently create 3 independent iterators over the input sequence
  • chain links two sequences into one; it's used here to append a single-element sequence [None] to prevs
  • islice is used to make a sequence of all elements except the first, then chain is used to append a None to its end
  • There are now 3 independent sequences based on some_iterable that look like:
    • prevs: None, A, B, C, D, E
    • items: A, B, C, D, E
    • nexts: B, C, D, E, None
  • finally izip is used to change 3 sequences into one sequence of triplets.

Note that izip stops when any input sequence gets exhausted, so the last element of prevs will be ignored, which is correct - there's no such element that the last element would be its prev. We could try to strip off the last elements from prevs but izip's behaviour makes that redundant

Also note that tee, izip, islice and chain come from the itertools module; they operate on their input sequences on-the-fly (lazily), which makes them efficient and doesn't introduce the need of having the whole sequence in memory at once at any time.

In python 3, it will show an error while importing izip,you can use zip instead of izip. No need to import zip, it is predefined in python 3 - source

How to compare two columns in Excel and if match, then copy the cell next to it

It might be easier with vlookup. Try this:

=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(D2,G:H,2,0),"")

The IFERROR() is for no matches, so that it throws "" in such cases.

VLOOKUP's first parameter is the value to 'look for' in the reference table, which is column G and H.

VLOOKUP will thus look for D2 in column G and return the value in the column index 2 (column G has column index 1, H will have column index 2), meaning that the value from column H will be returned.

The last parameter is 0 (or equivalently FALSE) to mean an exact match. That's what you need as opposed to approximate match.

Carousel with Thumbnails in Bootstrap 3.0

Bootstrap 4 (update 2019)

A multi-item carousel can be accomplished in several ways as explained here. Another option is to use separate thumbnails to navigate the carousel slides.

Bootstrap 3 (original answer)

This can be done using the grid inside each carousel item.

       <div id="myCarousel" class="carousel slide">
                <div class="carousel-inner">
                    <div class="item active">

                            </div>
                            <div class="col-sm-3">..
                            </div>
                            <div class="col-sm-3">..

How do I create an .exe for a Java program?

If Java is installed on the target machine, there is no need to create an .exe file. A .jar file should be sufficient.

write newline into a file

You could print through a PrintStream.

PrintStream ps = new PrintStream(fop);
ps.println(nodeValue);
ps.close();

What's the difference between Cache-Control: max-age=0 and no-cache?

In my recent tests with IE8 and Firefox 3.5, it seems that both are RFC-compliant. However, they differ in their "friendliness" to the origin server. IE8 treats no-cache responses with the same semantics as max-age=0,must-revalidate. Firefox 3.5, however, seems to treat no-cache as equivalent to no-store, which sucks for performance and bandwidth usage.

Squid Cache, by default, seems to never store anything with a no-cache header, just like Firefox.

My advice would be to set public,max-age=0 for non-sensitive resources you want to have checked for freshness on every request, but still allow the performance and bandwidth benefits of caching. For per-user items with the same consideration, use private,max-age=0.

I would avoid the use of no-cache entirely, as it seems it has been bastardized by some browsers and popular caches to the functional equivalent of no-store.

Additionally, do not emulate Akamai and Limelight. While they essentially run massive caching arrays as their primary business, and should be experts, they actually have a vested interest in causing more data to be downloaded from their networks. Google might not be a good choice for emulation, either. They seem to use max-age=0 or no-cache randomly depending on the resource.

How to write a switch statement in Ruby

Multi-value when and no-value case:

print "Enter your grade: "

case grade
when "A", "B"
  puts 'You pretty smart!'
when "C", "D"
  puts 'You pretty dumb!!'
else
  puts "You can't even use a computer!"
end

And a regular expression solution here:

print "Enter a string: "
some_string = gets.chomp
case
when some_string.match(/\d/)
  puts 'String has numbers'
when some_string.match(/[a-zA-Z]/)
  puts 'String has letters'

Not able to launch IE browser using Selenium2 (Webdriver) with Java

To resolve this issue you have to do two things :

  1. You will need to set a registry entry on the target computer so that the driver can maintain a connection to the instance of Internet Explorer it creates.

  2. Change few settings of Internet Explorer browser on that machine (where you desire to run automation).

1 . Setting Registry Key / Entry :

  • To set registry key or entry, you need to open "Registry Editor".

  • To open "Registry Editor" press windows button key + r alphabet key which will open "Run Window" and then type "regedit" and press enter.

  • Or Press Windows button key and enter "regedit" at start menu and press enter. Now depending upon your OS type whether 32/64 bit follow the corresponding steps.

Windows 32 bit : go to this location - "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl" and check for "FEATURE_BFCACHE" key.

Windows 64 bit : go to this location - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl and check for "FEATURE_BFCACHE" key. Please note that the FEATURE_BFCACHE subkey may or may not be present, and should be created if it is not present.

Important: Inside this key, create a DWORD value named iexplore.exe with the value of 0.

Registry Setting

2 . Change Settings of Internet Explorer Browser :

  • Click on setting button and select "Internet options".

  • On "Internet options" window go to "Security" tab

  • Now select "Internet" option and unchecked the "Enable Protected Mode" check box and change the "Security level" to low.

  • Now select "Local Intranet" Option and change the "Security level" to low.

  • Now select "Trusted Sites" Option and change the "Security level" to low.

Internet Options

  • Now click on "Apply" button , a warning pop up may appear click on "OK" button for warning and then on "OK" button on Internet Options window.

Save Settings

  • After this restart the browser.

Big-O summary for Java Collections Framework implementations?

The guy above gave comparison for HashMap / HashSet vs. TreeMap / TreeSet.

I will talk about ArrayList vs. LinkedList:

ArrayList:

  • O(1) get()
  • amortized O(1) add()
  • if you insert or delete an element in the middle using ListIterator.add() or Iterator.remove(), it will be O(n) to shift all the following elements

LinkedList:

  • O(n) get()
  • O(1) add()
  • if you insert or delete an element in the middle using ListIterator.add() or Iterator.remove(), it will be O(1)

What does the "__block" keyword mean?

From the Block Language Spec:

In addition to the new Block type we also introduce a new storage qualifier, __block, for local variables. [testme: a __block declaration within a block literal] The __block storage qualifier is mutually exclusive to the existing local storage qualifiers auto, register, and static.[testme] Variables qualified by __block act as if they were in allocated storage and this storage is automatically recovered after last use of said variable. An implementation may choose an optimization where the storage is initially automatic and only "moved" to allocated (heap) storage upon a Block_copy of a referencing Block. Such variables may be mutated as normal variables are.

In the case where a __block variable is a Block one must assume that the __block variable resides in allocated storage and as such is assumed to reference a Block that is also in allocated storage (that it is the result of a Block_copy operation). Despite this there is no provision to do a Block_copy or a Block_release if an implementation provides initial automatic storage for Blocks. This is due to the inherent race condition of potentially several threads trying to update the shared variable and the need for synchronization around disposing of older values and copying new ones. Such synchronization is beyond the scope of this language specification.

For details on what a __block variable should compile to, see the Block Implementation Spec, section 2.3.

How large is a DWORD with 32- and 64-bit code?

It is defined as:

typedef unsigned long       DWORD;

However, according to the MSDN:

On 32-bit platforms, long is synonymous with int.

Therefore, DWORD is 32bit on a 32bit operating system. There is a separate define for a 64bit DWORD:

typdef unsigned _int64 DWORD64;

Hope that helps.

Class method differences in Python: bound, unbound and static

Accurate explanation from Armin Ronacher above, expanding on his answers so that beginners like me understand it well:

Difference in the methods defined in a class, whether static or instance method(there is yet another type - class method - not discussed here so skipping it), lay in the fact whether they are somehow bound to the class instance or not. For example, say whether the method receives a reference to the class instance during runtime

class C:
    a = []
    def foo(self):
        pass

C # this is the class object
C.a # is a list object (class property object)
C.foo # is a function object (class property object)
c = C()
c # this is the class instance

The __dict__ dictionary property of the class object holds the reference to all the properties and methods of a class object and thus

>>> C.__dict__['foo']
<function foo at 0x17d05b0>

the method foo is accessible as above. An important point to note here is that everything in python is an object and so references in the dictionary above are themselves pointing to other objects. Let me call them Class Property Objects - or as CPO within the scope of my answer for brevity.

If a CPO is a descriptor, then python interpretor calls the __get__() method of the CPO to access the value it contains.

In order to determine if a CPO is a descriptor, python interpretor checks if it implements the descriptor protocol. To implement descriptor protocol is to implement 3 methods

def __get__(self, instance, owner)
def __set__(self, instance, value)
def __delete__(self, instance)

for e.g.

>>> C.__dict__['foo'].__get__(c, C)

where

  • self is the CPO (it could be an instance of list, str, function etc) and is supplied by the runtime
  • instance is the instance of the class where this CPO is defined (the object 'c' above) and needs to be explicity supplied by us
  • owner is the class where this CPO is defined(the class object 'C' above) and needs to be supplied by us. However this is because we are calling it on the CPO. when we call it on the instance, we dont need to supply this since the runtime can supply the instance or its class(polymorphism)
  • value is the intended value for the CPO and needs to be supplied by us

Not all CPO are descriptors. For example

>>> C.__dict__['foo'].__get__(None, C)
<function C.foo at 0x10a72f510>
>>> C.__dict__['a'].__get__(None, C)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
AttributeError: 'list' object has no attribute '__get__'

This is because the list class doesnt implement the descriptor protocol.

Thus the argument self in c.foo(self) is required because its method signature is actually this C.__dict__['foo'].__get__(c, C) (as explained above, C is not needed as it can be found out or polymorphed) And this is also why you get a TypeError if you dont pass that required instance argument.

If you notice the method is still referenced via the class Object C and the binding with the class instance is achieved via passing a context in the form of the instance object into this function.

This is pretty awesome since if you chose to keep no context or no binding to the instance, all that was needed was to write a class to wrap the descriptor CPO and override its __get__() method to require no context. This new class is what we call a decorator and is applied via the keyword @staticmethod

class C(object):
  @staticmethod
  def foo():
   pass

The absence of context in the new wrapped CPO foo doesnt throw an error and can be verified as follows:

>>> C.__dict__['foo'].__get__(None, C)
<function foo at 0x17d0c30>

Use case of a static method is more of a namespacing and code maintainability one(taking it out of a class and making it available throughout the module etc).

It maybe better to write static methods rather than instance methods whenever possible, unless ofcourse you need to contexualise the methods(like access instance variables, class variables etc). One reason is to ease garbage collection by not keeping unwanted reference to objects.

How to have PHP display errors? (I've added ini_set and error_reporting, but just gives 500 on errors)

You need to set the error_reporting value in a .htaccess file. Since there is a parse error, it never runs the error_reporting() function in your PHP code.

Try this in a .htaccess file (assuming you can use one):

php_flag display_errors 1
php_value error_reporting 30719

I think 30719 corresponds to E_ALL but I may be wrong.

Edit Update: http://php.net/manual/en/errorfunc.constants.php

At first I tried simply overwriting the write-method but that doesn't work as the subprocess will never call it (redirection happens on filedescriptor level). So I'm using my own pipe, similar to how it's done in the subprocess-module. This has the advantage of encapsulating all logging/printing logic in the adapter and you can simply pass instances of the logger to Popen: subprocess.Popen("/path/to/binary", stderr = LogAdapter("foo"))

class LogAdapter(threading.Thread):

    def __init__(self, logname, level = logging.INFO):
        super().__init__()
        self.log = logging.getLogger(logname)
        self.readpipe, self.writepipe = os.pipe()

        logFunctions = {
            logging.DEBUG: self.log.debug,
            logging.INFO: self.log.info,
            logging.WARN: self.log.warn,
            logging.ERROR: self.log.warn,
        }

        try:
            self.logFunction = logFunctions[level]
        except KeyError:
            self.logFunction = self.log.info

    def fileno(self):
        #when fileno is called this indicates the subprocess is about to fork => start thread
        self.start()
        return self.writepipe

    def finished(self):
       """If the write-filedescriptor is not closed this thread will
       prevent the whole program from exiting. You can use this method
       to clean up after the subprocess has terminated."""
       os.close(self.writepipe)

    def run(self):
        inputFile = os.fdopen(self.readpipe)

        while True:
            line = inputFile.readline()

            if len(line) == 0:
                #no new data was added
                break

            self.logFunction(line.strip())

If you don't need logging but simply want to use print() you can obviously remove large portions of the code and keep the class shorter. You could also expand it by an __enter__ and __exit__ method and call finished in __exit__ so that you could easily use it as context.

Command to delete all pods in all kubernetes namespaces

There is no command to do exactly what you asked.

Here are some close matches.

You can delete all the pods in a single namespace with this command:

kubectl delete --all pods --namespace=foo

You can also delete all deployments in namespace which will delete all pods attached with the deployments corresponding to the namespace

kubectl delete --all deployments --namespace=foo

You can delete all namespaces and every object in every namespace (but not un-namespaced objects, like nodes and some events) with this command:

kubectl delete --all namespaces

However, the latter command is probably not something you want to do, since it will delete things in the kube-system namespace, which will make your cluster not usable.

This command will delete all the namespaces except kube-system, which might be useful:

for each in $(kubectl get ns -o jsonpath="{.items[*].metadata.name}" | grep -v kube-system);
do
  kubectl delete ns $each
done

Populate unique values into a VBA array from Excel

Combining the Dictionary approach from Tim with the variant array from Jean_Francois below.

The array you want is in objDict.keys

Dim lngRow As Long

Set objDict = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary")
X = Application.Transpose(Range([a1], Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp)))

For lngRow = 1 To UBound(X, 1)
    objDict(X(lngRow)) = 1
Next
Range("B1:B" & objDict.Count) = Application.Transpose(objDict.keys)
End Sub

How does the @property decorator work in Python?

The first part is simple:

@property
def x(self): ...

is the same as

def x(self): ...
x = property(x)
  • which, in turn, is the simplified syntax for creating a property with just a getter.

The next step would be to extend this property with a setter and a deleter. And this happens with the appropriate methods:

@x.setter
def x(self, value): ...

returns a new property which inherits everything from the old x plus the given setter.

x.deleter works the same way.

Laravel: Validation unique on update

After researching a lot on this laravel validation topic including unique column, finally got the best approach. Please have a look

In your controller

    use Illuminate\Http\Request;
    use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Validator;

    class UserController extends Controller
    {
         public function saveUser(Request $request){
                $validator = Validator::make($request->all(),User::rules($request->get('id')),User::$messages);
                if($validator->fails()){
                    return redirect()->back()->withErrors($validator)->withInput();
                }
            }
    }

saveUser method can be called for add/update user record.

In you model

class User extends Model
{
    public static function rules($id = null)
    {
        return [

            'password_confirm' => "required:min:6|same:password",
            'password_current' => "required:min:6"
        ];
    }
    public static $messages = [

Visual studio equivalent of java System.out

You can use Console.WriteLine() to write out any native type. To see the output you must write console application (like in Java), then the output will be displayed in the Command Prompt, or if you are developing a windows GUI application, in Visual Studio you must turn on "Output" panel (under View) to see the commands output.

How to check if an element is visible with WebDriver

Short answer: use #visibilityOfElementLocated

None of the answers using isDisplayed or similar are correct. They only check if the display property is not none, not if the element can actually be seen! Selenium had a bunch of static utility methods added in the ExpectedConditions class. Two of them can be used in this case:

Usage

@Test
// visibilityOfElementLocated has been statically imported
public demo(){
    By searchButtonSelector = By.className("search_button");
    WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, 10);
    driver.get(homeUrl);

    WebElement searchButton = wait.until(
            visibilityOfElementLocated
            (searchButtonSelector));

    //clicks the search button
    searchButton.click();

Custom visibility check running on the client

This was my answer before finding out about the utility methods on ExpectedConditions. It might still be relevant, as I assume it does more than the method mentioned above, which only checks the element has a height and a width.

In essence: this cannot be answered by Java and the findElementBy* methods and WebElement#isDisplayed alone, as they can only tell you if an element exists, not if it is actually visible. The OP hasn't defined what visible means, but it normally entails

  • it has an opacity > 0
  • it has the display property set to something else than none
  • the visibility prop is set to visible
  • there are no other elements hiding it (it's the topmost element)

Most people would also include the requirement that it is actually within the viewport as well (so a person would be able to see it).

For some reason, this quite normal need is not met by the pure Java API, while front-ends to Selenium that builds upon it often implements some variation of isVisible, which is why I knew this should be possible. And after browsing the source of the Node framework WebDriver.IO I found the source of isVisible, which is now renamed to the more aptly name of isVisibleInViewport in the 5.0-beta.

Basically, they implement the custom command as a call that delegates to a javascript that runs on the client and does the actual work! This is the "server" bit:

export default function isDisplayedInViewport () {
    return getBrowserObject(this).execute(isDisplayedInViewportScript, {
        [ELEMENT_KEY]: this.elementId, // w3c compatible
        ELEMENT: this.elementId // jsonwp compatible
    })
}

So the interesting bit is the javascript sent to run on the client:

/**
 * check if element is visible and within the viewport
 * @param  {HTMLElement} elem  element to check
 * @return {Boolean} true if element is within viewport
 */
export default function isDisplayedInViewport (elem) {
    const dde = document.documentElement

    let isWithinViewport = true
    while (elem.parentNode && elem.parentNode.getBoundingClientRect) {
        const elemDimension = elem.getBoundingClientRect()
        const elemComputedStyle = window.getComputedStyle(elem)
        const viewportDimension = {
            width: dde.clientWidth,
            height: dde.clientHeight
        }

        isWithinViewport = isWithinViewport &&
                           (elemComputedStyle.display !== 'none' &&
                            elemComputedStyle.visibility === 'visible' &&
                            parseFloat(elemComputedStyle.opacity, 10) > 0 &&
                            elemDimension.bottom > 0 &&
                            elemDimension.right > 0 &&
                            elemDimension.top < viewportDimension.height &&
                            elemDimension.left < viewportDimension.width)

        elem = elem.parentNode
    }

    return isWithinViewport
}

This piece of JS can actually be copied (almost) verbatim into your own codebase (remove export default and replace const with var in case of non-evergreen browsers)! To use it, read it from File into a String that can be sent by Selenium for running on the client.

Another interesting and related script that might be worth looking into is selectByVisibleText.

If you haven't executed JS using Selenium before you could have a small peek into this or browse the JavaScriptExecutor API.

Usually, try to always use non-blocking async scripts (meaning #executeAsyncScript), but since we already have a synchronous, blocking script we might as well use the normal sync call. The returned object can be many types of Object, so cast approprately. This could be one way of doing it:

/**
 * Demo of a java version of webdriverio's isDisplayedInViewport
 * https://github.com/webdriverio/webdriverio/blob/v5.0.0-beta.2/packages/webdriverio/src/commands/element/isDisplayedInViewport.js
 * The super class GuiTest just deals with setup of the driver and such
 */
class VisibleDemoTest extends GuiTest {
    public static String readScript(String name) {
        try {
            File f = new File("selenium-scripts/" + name + ".js");
            BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader( new FileReader( file ) );
            return reader.lines().collect(Collectors.joining(System.lineSeparator()));
        } catch(IOError e){
            throw new RuntimeError("No such Selenium script: " + f.getAbsolutePath());
        }
    }

    public static Boolean isVisibleInViewport(RemoteElement e){
        // according to the Webdriver spec a string that identifies an element
        // should be deserialized into the corresponding web element,
        // meaning the 'isDisplayedInViewport' function should receive the element,
        // not just the string we passed to it originally - how this is done is not our concern
        //
        // This is probably when ELEMENT and ELEMENT_KEY refers to in the wd.io implementation
        //
        // Ref https://w3c.github.io/webdriver/#dfn-json-deserialize
        return js.executeScript(readScript("isDisplayedInViewport"), e.getId());
    }

    public static Boolean isVisibleInViewport(String xPath){
        driver().findElementByXPath("//button[@id='should_be_visible']");
    }

    @Test
    public demo_isVisibleInViewport(){
        // you can build all kinds of abstractions on top of the base method
        // to make it more Selenium-ish using retries with timeouts, etc
        assertTrue(isVisibleInViewport("//button[@id='should_be_visible']"));
        assertFalse(isVisibleInViewport("//button[@id='should_be_hidden']"));
    }
}

How does the ARM architecture differ from x86?

Neither has anything specific to keyboard or mobile, other than the fact that for years ARM has had a pretty substantial advantage in terms of power consumption, which made it attractive for all sorts of battery operated devices.

As far as the actual differences: ARM has more registers, supported predication for most instructions long before Intel added it, and has long incorporated all sorts of techniques (call them "tricks", if you prefer) to save power almost everywhere it could.

There's also a considerable difference in how the two encode instructions. Intel uses a fairly complex variable-length encoding in which an instruction can occupy anywhere from 1 up to 15 byte. This allows programs to be quite small, but makes instruction decoding relatively difficult (as in: decoding instructions fast in parallel is more like a complete nightmare).

ARM has two different instruction encoding modes: ARM and THUMB. In ARM mode, you get access to all instructions, and the encoding is extremely simple and fast to decode. Unfortunately, ARM mode code tends to be fairly large, so it's fairly common for a program to occupy around twice as much memory as Intel code would. Thumb mode attempts to mitigate that. It still uses quite a regular instruction encoding, but reduces most instructions from 32 bits to 16 bits, such as by reducing the number of registers, eliminating predication from most instructions, and reducing the range of branches. At least in my experience, this still doesn't usually give quite as dense of coding as x86 code can get, but it's fairly close, and decoding is still fairly simple and straightforward. Lower code density means you generally need at least a little more memory and (generally more seriously) a larger cache to get equivalent performance.

At one time Intel put a lot more emphasis on speed than power consumption. They started emphasizing power consumption primarily on the context of laptops. For laptops their typical power goal was on the order of 6 watts for a fairly small laptop. More recently (much more recently) they've started to target mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.) For this market, they're looking at a couple of watts or so at most. They seem to be doing pretty well at that, though their approach has been substantially different from ARM's, emphasizing fabrication technology where ARM has mostly emphasized micro-architecture (not surprising, considering that ARM sells designs, and leaves fabrication to others).

Depending on the situation, a CPU's energy consumption is often more important than its power consumption though. At least as I'm using the terms, power consumption refers to power usage on a (more or less) instantaneous basis. Energy consumption, however, normalizes for speed, so if (for example) CPU A consumes 1 watt for 2 seconds to do a job, and CPU B consumes 2 watts for 1 second to do the same job, both CPUs consume the same total amount of energy (two watt seconds) to do that job--but with CPU B, you get results twice as fast.

ARM processors tend to do very well in terms of power consumption. So if you need something that needs a processor's "presence" almost constantly, but isn't really doing much work, they can work out pretty well. For example, if you're doing video conferencing, you gather a few milliseconds of data, compress it, send it, receive data from others, decompress it, play it back, and repeat. Even a really fast processor can't spend much time sleeping, so for tasks like this, ARM does really well.

Intel's processors (especially their Atom processors, which are actually intended for low power applications) are extremely competitive in terms of energy consumption. While they're running close to their full speed, they will consume more power than most ARM processors--but they also finish work quickly, so they can go back to sleep sooner. As a result, they can combine good battery life with good performance.

So, when comparing the two, you have to be careful about what you measure, to be sure that it reflects what you honestly care about. ARM does very well at power consumption, but depending on the situation you may easily care more about energy consumption than instantaneous power consumption.

Split string into array of characters?

You can just assign the string to a byte array (the reverse is also possible). The result is 2 numbers for each character, so Xmas converts to a byte array containing {88,0,109,0,97,0,115,0}
or you can use StrConv

Dim bytes() as Byte
bytes = StrConv("Xmas", vbFromUnicode)

which will give you {88,109,97,115} but in that case you cannot assign the byte array back to a string.
You can convert the numbers in the byte array back to characters using the Chr() function

text = text.replace("&ocirc;", "ô");
text = text.replace("&otilde;", "õ");
text = text.replace("&oacute;", "ó");
text = text.replace("&uacute;", "ú");

In my case this worked very well.

How to create Password Field in Model Django

You should create a ModelForm (docs), which has a field that uses the PasswordInput widget from the forms library.

It would look like this:

models.py

from django import models
class User(models.Model):
    username = models.CharField(max_length=100)
    password = models.CharField(max_length=50)

forms.py (not views.py)

from django import forms
class UserForm(forms.ModelForm):
    class Meta:
        model = User
        widgets = {
        'password': forms.PasswordInput(),
    }

For more about using forms in a view, see this section of the docs.

I removed the reference and it is working fine.

Reading a string with spaces with sscanf

If you want to scan to the end of the string (stripping out a newline if there), just use:

char *x = "19 cool kid";
sscanf (x, "%d %[^\n]", &age, buffer);

That's because %s only matches non-whitespace characters and will stop on the first whitespace it finds. The %[^\n] format specifier will match every character that's not (because of ^) in the selection given (which is a newline). In other words, it will match any other character.

Keep in mind that you should have allocated enough space in your buffer to take the string since you cannot be sure how much will be read (a good reason to stay away from scanf/fscanf unless you use specific field widths).

You could do that with:

char *x = "19 cool kid";
char *buffer = malloc (strlen (x) + 1);
sscanf (x, "%d %[^\n]", &age, buffer);

(you don't need * sizeof(char) since that's always 1 by definition).

How to redraw DataTable with new data

You have to first clear the table and then add new data using row.add() function. At last step adjust also column size so that table renders correctly.

$('#upload-new-data').on('click', function () {
   datatable.clear().draw();
   datatable.rows.add(NewlyCreatedData); // Add new data
   datatable.columns.adjust().draw(); // Redraw the DataTable
});

LINQ equivalent of foreach for IEnumerable<T>

MoreLinq has IEnumerable<T>.ForEach and a ton of other useful extensions. It's probably not worth taking the dependency just for ForEach, but there's a lot of useful stuff in there.

How to use cookies in Python Requests

Summary (@Freek Wiekmeijer, @gtalarico) other's answer:

Logic of Login

  • Many resource(pages, api) need authentication, then can access, otherwise 405 Not Allowed
  • Common authentication=grant access method are:
    • cookie
    • auth header
      • Basic xxx
      • Authorization xxx

How use cookie in requests to auth

  1. first get/generate cookie
  2. send cookie for following request
  • manual set cookie in headers
  • auto process cookie by requests's
    • session to auto manage cookies
    • response.cookies to manually set cookies

use requests's session auto manage cookies

curSession = requests.Session()
# all cookies received will be stored in the session object

payload={'username': "yourName",'password': "yourPassword"}
curSession.post(firstUrl, data=payload)
# internally return your expected cookies, can use for following auth

# internally use previously generated cookies, can access the resources
curSession.get(secondUrl)

curSession.get(thirdUrl)

manually control requests's response.cookies

payload={'username': "yourName",'password': "yourPassword"}
resp1 = requests.post(firstUrl, data=payload)

# manually pass previously returned cookies into following request
resp2 = requests.get(secondUrl, cookies= resp1.cookies)

resp3 = requests.get(thirdUrl, cookies= resp2.cookies)

Recursively list all files in a directory including files in symlink directories

ls -R -L

-L dereferences symbolic links. This will also make it impossible to see any symlinks to files, though - they'll look like the pointed-to file.

python JSON only get keys in first level

As Karthik mentioned, dct.keys() will work but it will return all the keys in dict_keys type not in list type. So if you want all the keys in a list, then list(dct.keys()) will work.

Remove part of a string

Use regular expressions. In this case, you can use gsub:

gsub("^.*?_","_","ATGAS_1121")
[1] "_1121"

This regular expression matches the beginning of the string (^), any character (.) repeated zero or more times (*), and underscore (_). The ? makes the match "lazy" so that it only matches are far as the first underscore. That match is replaced with just an underscore. See ?regex for more details and references

How to have multiple CSS transitions on an element?

It's possible to make the multiple transitions set with different values for duration, delay and timing function. To split different transitions use ,

How do you return a JSON object from a Java Servlet

First convert the JSON object to String. Then just write it out to the response writer along with content type of application/json and character encoding of UTF-8.

Here's an example assuming you're using Google Gson to convert a Java object to a JSON string:

protected void doXxx(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) {
    // ...

    String json = new Gson().toJson(someObject);
    response.setContentType("application/json");
    response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
    response.getWriter().write(json);
}

That's all.

Set a cookie to never expire

While that isn't exactly possible you could do something similar to what Google does and set your cookie to expire Jan 17, 2038 or something equally far off.

In all practicality you might be better off setting your cookie for 10 years or 60*60*24*365*10, which should outlive most of the machines your cookie will live on.

How do I encrypt and decrypt a string in python?

Try this:

Python Cryptography Toolkit (pycrypto) is required

$ pip install pycrypto

Code:

from Crypto.Cipher import AES
from base64 import b64encode, b64decode

class Crypt:

    def __init__(self, salt='SlTKeYOpHygTYkP3'):
        self.salt = salt.encode('utf8')
        self.enc_dec_method = 'utf-8'

    def encrypt(self, str_to_enc, str_key):
        try:
            aes_obj = AES.new(str_key, AES.MODE_CFB, self.salt)
            hx_enc = aes_obj.encrypt(str_to_enc.encode('utf8'))
            mret = b64encode(hx_enc).decode(self.enc_dec_method)
            return mret
        except ValueError as value_error:
            if value_error.args[0] == 'IV must be 16 bytes long':
                raise ValueError('Encryption Error: SALT must be 16 characters long')

            str_tmp = b64decode(enc_str.encode(self.enc_dec_method))
            str_dec = aes_obj.decrypt(str_tmp)
            mret = str_dec.decode(self.enc_dec_method)

Compare two objects' properties to find differences?

Type.GetProperties will list each of the properties of a given type. Then use PropertyInfo.GetValue to check the values.

Random numbers with Math.random() in Java

Math.random() generates a number between 0 (inclusive) and 1 (exclusive).

So (int)(Math.random() * max) ranges from 0 to max-1 inclusive.

Then (int)(Math.random() * max) + min ranges from min to max + min - 1, which is not what you want.

Google's formula is correct.

Create web service proxy in Visual Studio from a WSDL file

Try the WSDL To Proxy class tool shipped with the .NET Framework SDK. I've never used it before, but it certainly looks like what you need.

Extract a page from a pdf as a jpeg

GhostScript performs much faster than Poppler for a Linux based system.

Following is the code for pdf to image conversion.

def get_image_page(pdf_file, out_file, page_num):
    page = str(page_num + 1)
    command = ["gs", "-q", "-dNOPAUSE", "-dBATCH", "-sDEVICE=png16m", "-r" + str(RESOLUTION), "-dPDFFitPage",
               "-sOutputFile=" + out_file, "-dFirstPage=" + page, "-dLastPage=" + page,
               pdf_file]
    f_null = open(os.devnull, 'w')
    subprocess.call(command, stdout=f_null, stderr=subprocess.STDOUT)

GhostScript can be installed on macOS using brew install ghostscript

Installation information for other platforms can be found here. If it is not already installed on your system.

Show pop-ups the most elegant way

See http://adamalbrecht.com/2013/12/12/creating-a-simple-modal-dialog-directive-in-angular-js/ for a simple way of doing modal dialog with Angular and without needing bootstrap

Edit: I've since been using ng-dialog from http://likeastore.github.io/ngDialog which is flexible and doesn't have any dependencies.

How to return part of string before a certain character?

Another method could be to split the string by ":" and then pop off the end. var newString = string.split(":").pop();

Why is this error, 'Sequence contains no elements', happening?

Check again. Use debugger if must. My guess is that for some item in userResponseDetails this query finds no elements:

.Where(y => y.ResponseId.Equals(item.ResponseId))

so you can't call

.First()

on it. Maybe try

.FirstOrDefault()

if it solves the issue.

Do NOT return NULL value! This is purely so that you can see and diagnose where problem is. Handle these cases properly.

Center an item with position: relative

If you have a relatively- (or otherwise-) positioned div you can center something inside it with margin:auto

Vertical centering is a bit tricker, but possible.

What is POCO in Entity Framework?

POCOs(Plain old CLR objects) are simply entities of your Domain. Normally when we use entity framework the entities are generated automatically for you. This is great but unfortunately these entities are interspersed with database access functionality which is clearly against the SOC (Separation of concern). POCOs are simple entities without any data access functionality but still gives the capabilities all EntityObject functionalities like

  • Lazy loading
  • Change tracking

Here is a good start for this

POCO Entity framework

You can also generate POCOs so easily from your existing Entity framework project using Code generators.

Most efficient way to convert an HTMLCollection to an Array

This is my personal solution, based on the information here (this thread):

var Divs = new Array();
var Elemns = document.getElementsByClassName("divisao");
    try {
        Divs = Elemns.prototype.slice.call(Elemns);
    } catch(e) {
        Divs = $A(Elemns);
    }

Where $A was described by Gareth Davis in his post:

function $A(iterable) {
  if (!iterable) return [];
  if ('toArray' in Object(iterable)) return iterable.toArray();
  var length = iterable.length || 0, results = new Array(length);
  while (length--) results[length] = iterable[length];
  return results;
}

If browser supports the best way, ok, otherwise will use the cross browser.

SQL Bulk Insert with FIRSTROW parameter skips the following line

Given how mangled some data can look after BCP importing into SQL Server from non-SQL data sources, I'd suggest doing all the BCP import into some scratch tables first.

For example

truncate table Address_Import_tbl

BULK INSERT dbo.Address_Import_tbl FROM 'E:\external\SomeDataSource\Address.csv' WITH ( FIELDTERMINATOR = '|', ROWTERMINATOR = '\n', MAXERRORS = 10 )

Make sure all the columns in Address_Import_tbl are nvarchar(), to make it as agnostic as possible, and avoid type conversion errors.

Then apply whatever fixes you need to Address_Import_tbl. Like deleting the unwanted header.

Then run a INSERT SELECT query, to copy from Address_Import_tbl to Address_tbl, along with any datatype conversions you need. For example, to cast imported dates to SQL DATETIME.

How can I create 2 separate log files with one log4j config file?

Modify your log4j.properties file accordingly:

log4j.logger.reportsLog=DEBUG,reportsLog

Change the log levels for each logger depending to your needs.

Generic XSLT Search and Replace template

Here's one way in XSLT 2

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsl:stylesheet version="2.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">   <xsl:template match="@*|node()">     <xsl:copy>       <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>     </xsl:copy>   </xsl:template>   <xsl:template match="text()">     <xsl:value-of select="translate(.,'&quot;','''')"/>   </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet>

Doing it in XSLT1 is a little more problematic as it's hard to get a literal containing a single apostrophe, so you have to resort to a variable:

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">   <xsl:template match="@*|node()">     <xsl:copy>       <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>     </xsl:copy>   </xsl:template>   <xsl:variable name="apos">'</xsl:variable>   <xsl:template match="text()">     <xsl:value-of select="translate(.,'&quot;',$apos)"/>   </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet>

Creating a textarea with auto-resize

A COMPLETE YET SIMPLE SOLUTION

Updated 2020-05-14 (Improved browser support for mobiles and tablets)

The following code will work:

  • On key input.
  • With pasted text (right click & ctrl+v).
  • With cut text (right click & ctrl+x).
  • With pre-loaded text.
  • With all textarea's (multiline textbox's) site wide.
  • With Firefox (v31-67 tested).
  • With Chrome (v37-74 tested).
  • With IE (v9-v11 tested).
  • With Edge (v14-v18 tested).
  • With IOS Safari.
  • With Android Browser.
  • With JavaScript strict mode.
  • Is w3c validated.
  • And is streamlined and efficient.

OPTION 1 (With jQuery)

This option requires jQuery and has been tested and is working with 1.7.2 - 3.3.1

Simple (Add this jquery code to your master script file and forget about it.)

_x000D_
_x000D_
$('textarea').each(function () {
  this.setAttribute('style', 'height:' + (this.scrollHeight) + 'px;overflow-y:hidden;');
}).on('input', function () {
  this.style.height = 'auto';
  this.style.height = (this.scrollHeight) + 'px';
});
_x000D_
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<textarea placeholder="Type, paste, cut text here...">PRELOADED TEXT.

Test on jsfiddle

OPTION 2 (Pure JavaScript)

Simple (Add this JavaScript to your master script file and forget about it.)

_x000D_
_x000D_
const tx = document.getElementsByTagName('textarea');
for (let i = 0; i < tx.length; i++) {
  tx[i].setAttribute('style', 'height:' + (tx[i].scrollHeight) + 'px;overflow-y:hidden;');
  tx[i].addEventListener("input", OnInput, false);
}

function OnInput() {
  this.style.height = 'auto';
  this.style.height = (this.scrollHeight) + 'px';
}
_x000D_
<textarea placeholder="Type, paste, cut text here...">PRELOADED TEXT. This JavaScript should now add better support for IOS browsers and Android browsers.</textarea>
<textarea placeholder="Type, paste, cut text here..."></textarea>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Test on jsfiddle

OPTION 3 (jQuery Extension)

Useful if you want to apply further chaining to the textareas you want to be auto-sized.

jQuery.fn.extend({
  autoHeight: function () {
    function autoHeight_(element) {
      return jQuery(element)
        .css({ 'height': 'auto', 'overflow-y': 'hidden' })
        .height(element.scrollHeight);
    }
    return this.each(function() {
      autoHeight_(this).on('input', function() {
        autoHeight_(this);
      });
    });
  }
});

Invoke with $('textarea').autoHeight()

UPDATING TEXTAREA VIA JAVASCRIPT

When injecting content into a textarea via JavaScript append the following code to invoke the function in option 1.

$('textarea').trigger('input');

PRESET TEXTAREA HEIGHT

To fix the initial height of the textarea you will need to add an additional condition:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const txHeight = 16;
const tx = document.getElementsByTagName("textarea");
for (let i = 0; i < tx.length; i++) {
  if (tx[i].value == '') {
    tx[i].setAttribute("style", "height:" + txHeight + "px;overflow-y:hidden;");
  } else {
    tx[i].setAttribute("style", "height:" + (tx[i].scrollHeight) + "px;overflow-y:hidden;");
  }
  tx[i].addEventListener("input", OnInput, false);
}

function OnInput(e) {
  this.style.height = "auto";
  this.style.height = (this.scrollHeight) + "px";
}
_x000D_
<textarea placeholder="Type, paste, cut text here...">PRELOADED TEXT. This JavaScript should now add better support for IOS browsers and Android browsers.</textarea>
<textarea placeholder="Type, paste, cut text here..."></textarea>

get the value of "onclick" with jQuery?

$('#google').attr('onclick') + ""

However, Firebug shows that this returns a function 'onclick'. You can call the function later on using the following approach:

(new Function ($('#google').attr('onclick') + ';onclick();'))()

... or use a RegEx to strip the function and get only the statements within it.

Equivalent of SQL ISNULL in LINQ?

I often have this problem with sequences (as opposed to discrete values). If I have a sequence of ints, and I want to SUM them, when the list is empty I'll receive the error "InvalidOperationException: The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Int32 which is a non-nullable value type.".

I find I can solve this by casting the sequence to a nullable type. SUM and the other aggregate operators don't throw this error if a sequence of nullable types is empty.

So for example something like this

MySum = MyTable.Where(x => x.SomeCondtion).Sum(x => x.AnIntegerValue);

becomes

MySum = MyTable.Where(x => x.SomeCondtion).Sum(x => (int?) x.AnIntegerValue);

The second one will return 0 when no rows match the where clause. (the first one throws an exception when no rows match).

Error: Address already in use while binding socket with address but the port number is shown free by `netstat`

I know its been a while since the question was asked but I was able to find a solution:

int sockfd;
int option = 1;
sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0);
setsockopt(sockfd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, &option, sizeof(option));

This set the socket able to be reused immediately.

I apologize if this is "wrong". I'm not very experienced with sockets

What is the color code for transparency in CSS?

There is no hex code for transparency. For CSS, you can use either transparent or rgba(0, 0, 0, 0).

Color text in discord

Discord doesn't allow colored text. Though, currently, you have two options to "mimic" colored text.

Option #1 (Markdown code-blocks)

Discord supports Markdown and uses highlight.js to highlight code-blocks. Some programming languages have specific color outputs from highlight.js and can be used to mimic colored output.

To use code-blocks, send a normal message in this format (Which follows Markdown's standard format).

```language
message
```

Languages that currently reproduce nice colors: prolog (red/orange), css (yellow).

Option #2 (Embeds)

Discord now supports Embeds and Webhooks, which can be used to display colored blocks, they also support markdown. For documentation on how to use Embeds, please read your lib's documentation.

Convert a PHP script into a stand-alone windows executable

I had problems with most of the tools in other answers as they are all very outdated.

If you need a solution that will "just work", pack a bare-bones version of php with your project in a WinRar SFX archive, set it to extract everything to a temporary directory and execute php your_script.php.

To run a basic script, the only files required are php.exe and php5.dll (or php5ts.dll depending on version).

To add extensions, pack them along with a php.ini file:

[PHP]
extension_dir = "."
extension=php_curl.dll
extension=php_xxxx.dll
...

Furthermore, I installed cmake2.8 on an easy directory (without blanks on it)

Can I access constants in settings.py from templates in Django?

I found this to be the simplest approach for Django 1.3:

  1. views.py

    from local_settings import BASE_URL

    def root(request):
        return render_to_response('hero.html', {'BASE_URL': BASE_URL})

  2. hero.html

How do I include a JavaScript script file in Angular and call a function from that script?

Add external js file in index.html.

<script src="./assets/vendors/myjs.js"></script>

Here's myjs.js file :

var myExtObject = (function() {

    return {
      func1: function() {
        alert('function 1 called');
      },
      func2: function() {
        alert('function 2 called');
      }
    }

})(myExtObject||{})

var webGlObject = (function() {
    return {
      init: function() {
        alert('webGlObject initialized');
      }
    }
})(webGlObject||{})

Then declare it is in component like below

demo.component.ts

declare var myExtObject: any;
declare var webGlObject: any;

constructor(){
    webGlObject.init();
}

callFunction1() {
    myExtObject.func1();
}

callFunction2() {
    myExtObject.func2();
}

demo.component.html

<div>
    <p>click below buttons for function call</p>
    <button (click)="callFunction1()">Call Function 1</button>
    <button (click)="callFunction2()">Call Function 2</button>

Using StringWriter for XML Serialization

It may have been covered elsewhere but simply changing the encoding line of the XML source to 'utf-16' allows the XML to be inserted into a SQL Server 'xml'data type.

using (DataSetTableAdapters.SQSTableAdapter tbl_SQS = new DataSetTableAdapters.SQSTableAdapter())
{
    try
    {
        bodyXML = @"<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?><test></test>";
        bodyXMLutf16 = bodyXML.Replace("UTF-8", "UTF-16");
        tbl_SQS.Insert(messageID, receiptHandle, md5OfBody, bodyXMLutf16, sourceType);
    }
    catch (System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException ex)
    {
        Console.WriteLine(ex.Message);
        Console.ReadLine();
    }
}

The result is all of the XML text is inserted into the 'xml' data type field but the 'header' line is removed. What you see in the resulting record is just

<test></test>

Using the serialization method described in the "Answered" entry is a way of including the original header in the target field but the result is that the remaining XML text is enclosed in an XML <string></string> tag.

The table adapter in the code is a class automatically built using the Visual Studio 2013 "Add New Data Source: wizard. The five parameters to the Insert method map to fields in a SQL Server table.

Substring with reverse index

Simple regex for any number of digits at the end of a string:

'xxx_456'.match(/\d+$/)[0]; //456
'xxx_4567890'.match(/\d+$/)[0]; //4567890

or use split/pop indeed:

('yyy_xxx_45678901').split(/_/).pop(); //45678901

Update MySQL using HTML Form and PHP

Update query may have some issues

$query = "UPDATE anstalld SET mandag = '$mandag', tisdag = '$tisdag', onsdag = '$onsdag', torsdag = '$torsdag', fredag = '$fredag' WHERE namn = '$namn' ";
echo $query;

Please make sure that, your variable not having values with qoutes ( ' ), May be the query is breaking somewhere.

echo the query and try to execute in phpmyadmin itself. Then you can find the issues.

Sending websocket ping/pong frame from browser

a possible solution in js

In case the WebSocket server initiative disconnects the ws link after a few minutes there no messages sent between the server and client.

  1. client sends a custom ping message, to keep alive by using the keepAlive function

  2. server ignore the ping message and response a custom pong message

var timerID = 0;
function keepAlive() {
    var timeout = 20000;
    if (webSocket.readyState == webSocket.OPEN) {
        webSocket.send('');
    }
    timerId = setTimeout(keepAlive, timeout);
}
function cancelKeepAlive() {
    if (timerId) {
        clearTimeout(timerId);
    }
}

Removing fields from struct or hiding them in JSON Response

I didn't have the same problem but similar. Below code solves your problem too, of course if you don't mind performance issue. Before implement that kind of solution to your system I recommend you to redesign your structure if you can. Sending variable structure response is over-engineering. I believe a response structure represents a contract between a request and resource and it should't be depend requests.(you can make un-wanted fields null, I do). In some cases we have to implement this design, if you believe you are in that cases here is the play link and code I use.

type User2 struct {
    ID       int    `groups:"id" json:"id,omitempty"`
    Username string `groups:"username" json:"username,omitempty"`
    Nickname string `groups:"nickname" json:"nickname,omitempty"`
}

type User struct {
    ID       int    `groups:"private,public" json:"id,omitempty"`
    Username string `groups:"private" json:"username,omitempty"`
    Nickname string `groups:"public" json:"nickname,omitempty"`
}

var (
    tagName = "groups"
)

//OmitFields sets fields nil by checking their tag group value and access control tags(acTags)
func OmitFields(obj interface{}, acTags []string) {
    //nilV := reflect.Value{}
    sv := reflect.ValueOf(obj).Elem()
    st := sv.Type()
    if sv.Kind() == reflect.Struct {
        for i := 0; i < st.NumField(); i++ {
            fieldVal := sv.Field(i)
            if fieldVal.CanSet() {
                tagStr := st.Field(i).Tag.Get(tagName)
                if len(tagStr) == 0 {
                    continue
                }
                tagList := strings.Split(strings.Replace(tagStr, " ", "", -1), ",")
                //fmt.Println(tagList)
                // ContainsCommonItem checks whether there is at least one common item in arrays
                if !ContainsCommonItem(tagList, acTags) {
                    fieldVal.Set(reflect.Zero(fieldVal.Type()))
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

//ContainsCommonItem checks if arrays have at least one equal item
func ContainsCommonItem(arr1 []string, arr2 []string) bool {
    for i := 0; i < len(arr1); i++ {
        for j := 0; j < len(arr2); j++ {
            if arr1[i] == arr2[j] {
                return true
            }
        }
    }
    return false
}
func main() {
    u := User{ID: 1, Username: "very secret", Nickname: "hinzir"}
    //assume authenticated user doesn't has permission to access private fields
    OmitFields(&u, []string{"public"})
    bytes, _ := json.Marshal(&u)
    fmt.Println(string(bytes))

    u2 := User2{ID: 1, Username: "very secret", Nickname: "hinzir"}
    //you want to filter fields by field names
    OmitFields(&u2, []string{"id", "nickname"})
    bytes, _ = json.Marshal(&u2)
    fmt.Println(string(bytes))

}

How to preserve insertion order in HashMap?

HashMap is unordered per the second line of the documentation:

This class makes no guarantees as to the order of the map; in particular, it does not guarantee that the order will remain constant over time.

Perhaps you can do as aix suggests and use a LinkedHashMap, or another ordered collection. This link can help you find the most appropriate collection to use.

How to set the JDK Netbeans runs on?

IN windows open cmd

go to directory where your netbeans downloaded

then run below command JDK path may be different from the path I mentioned

netbeans-8.2-windows.exe --javahome "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-9.0.1"

if you face issue in existing installed in netbeans you can find details in here

How to display a date as iso 8601 format with PHP

Using the DateTime class available in PHP version 5.2 it would be done like this:

$datetime = new DateTime('17 Oct 2008');
echo $datetime->format('c');

See it in action

As of PHP 5.4 you can do this as a one-liner:

echo (new DateTime('17 Oct 2008'))->format('c');

Concatenate two string literals

You should always pay attention to types.

Although they all seem like strings, "Hello" and ",world" are literals.

And in your example, exclam is a std::string object.

C++ has an operator overload that takes a std::string object and adds another string to it. When you concatenate a std::string object with a literal it will make the appropriate casting for the literal.

But if you try to concatenate two literals, the compiler won't be able to find an operator that takes two literals.

Extract digits from a string in Java

You can use str.replaceAll("[^0-9]", "");

How can I change from SQL Server Windows mode to mixed mode (SQL Server 2008)?

I had no success with other attempts on a SQL Server 2012. What I did was use SQL Server Management Studio to generate a script to change the value, and got this:

USE [master]
GO
EXEC xp_instance_regwrite N'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE', N'Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\MSSQLServer', N'LoginMode', REG_DWORD, 2
GO

After that, I enabled the sa account using this:

ALTER LOGIN sa ENABLE ;
GO
ALTER LOGIN sa WITH PASSWORD = '<strongPasswordHere>' ;
GO

...then, I restarted the service, and everything worked!

Programmatically generate video or animated GIF in Python?

I came across this post and none of the solutions worked, so here is my solution that does work

Problems with other solutions thus far:
1) No explicit solution as to how the duration is modified
2) No solution for the out of order directory iteration, which is essential for GIFs
3) No explanation of how to install imageio for python 3

install imageio like this: python3 -m pip install imageio

Note: you'll want to make sure your frames have some sort of index in the filename so they can be sorted, otherwise you'll have no way of knowing where the GIF starts or ends

import imageio
import os

path = '/Users/myusername/Desktop/Pics/' # on Mac: right click on a folder, hold down option, and click "copy as pathname"

image_folder = os.fsencode(path)

filenames = []

for file in os.listdir(image_folder):
    filename = os.fsdecode(file)
    if filename.endswith( ('.jpeg', '.png', '.gif') ):
        filenames.append(filename)

filenames.sort() # this iteration technique has no built in order, so sort the frames

images = list(map(lambda filename: imageio.imread(filename), filenames))

imageio.mimsave(os.path.join('movie.gif'), images, duration = 0.04) # modify duration as needed

Python: SyntaxError: keyword can't be an expression

Using the Elastic search DSL API, you may hit the same error with

s = Search(using=client, index="my-index") \
    .query("match", category.keyword="Musician")

You can solve it by doing:

s = Search(using=client, index="my-index") \
    .query({"match": {"category.keyword":"Musician/Band"}})

Event system in Python

We use an EventHook as suggested from Michael Foord in his Event Pattern:

Just add EventHooks to your classes with:

class MyBroadcaster()
    def __init__():
        self.onChange = EventHook()

theBroadcaster = MyBroadcaster()

# add a listener to the event
theBroadcaster.onChange += myFunction

# remove listener from the event
theBroadcaster.onChange -= myFunction

# fire event
theBroadcaster.onChange.fire()

We add the functionality to remove all listener from an object to Michaels class and ended up with this:

class EventHook(object):

    def __init__(self):
        self.__handlers = []

    def __iadd__(self, handler):
        self.__handlers.append(handler)
        return self

    def __isub__(self, handler):
        self.__handlers.remove(handler)
        return self

    def fire(self, *args, **keywargs):
        for handler in self.__handlers:
            handler(*args, **keywargs)

    def clearObjectHandlers(self, inObject):
        for theHandler in self.__handlers:
            if theHandler.im_self == inObject:
                self -= theHandler

Access to the path 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\myapp\App_Data' is denied

I tried to add ASP.net v4.0 with all permission, add NETWORK SERVICE user but nothing help. At last, added the MODIFY right of DefaultAppPool user in App_Data folder, problem solved.
