Programs & Examples On #Texture mapping

Texture mapping is a method for adding detail, surface texture (a bitmap or raster image), or color to a computer-generated graphic or 3D model.

Is there a way to access an iteration-counter in Java's for-each loop?

One of the changes Sun is considering for Java7 is to provide access to the inner Iterator in foreach loops. the syntax will be something like this (if this is accepted):

for (String str : list : it) {
  if (str.length() > 100) {
    it.remove();
  }
}

This is syntactic sugar, but apparently a lot of requests were made for this feature. But until it is approved, you'll have to count the iterations yourself, or use a regular for loop with an Iterator.

Finding moving average from data points in Python

ravgs = [sum(data[i:i+5])/5. for i in range(len(data)-4)]

This isn't the most efficient approach but it will give your answer and I'm unclear if your window is 5 points or 10. If its 10, replace each 5 with 10 and the 4 with 9.

JavaScript: location.href to open in new window/tab?

You can also open a new tab calling to an action method with parameter like this:

   var reportDate = $("#inputDateId").val();
   var url = '@Url.Action("PrintIndex", "Callers", new {dateRequested = "findme"})';
   window.open(window.location.href = url.replace('findme', reportDate), '_blank');

Error - trustAnchors parameter must be non-empty

EJP basically answered the question (and I realize this has an accepted answer), but I just dealt with this edge-case gotcha and wanted to immortalize my solution.

I had the InvalidAlgorithmParameterException error on a hosted Jira server that I had previously set up for SSL-only access. The issue was that I had set up my keystore in the PKCS#12 format, but my truststore was in the JKS format.

In my case, I had edited my server.xml file to specify the keystoreType to PKCS, but I did not specify the truststoreType, so it defaults to whatever the keystoreType is. Specifying the truststoreType explicitly as JKS solved it for me.

Nested lists python

Try this setup:

a = [["a","b","c",],["d","e"],["f","g","h"]]

To print the 2nd element in the 1st list ("b"), use print a[0][1] - For the 2nd element in 3rd list ("g"): print a[2][1]

The first brackets reference which nested list you're accessing, the second pair references the item in that list.

..The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive

Setting the HttpWebRequest.KeepAlive to false didn't work for me.

Since I was accessing a HTTPS page I had to set the Service Point Security Protocol to Tls12.

ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls12;

Notice that there are other SecurityProtocolTypes: SecurityProtocolType.Ssl3, SecurityProtocolType.Tls, SecurityProtocolType.Tls11

So if the Tls12 doesn't work for you, try the three remaining options.

Also notice that you can set multiple protocols. This is preferable on most cases.

ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls12 | SecurityProtocolType.Tls11 | SecurityProtocolType.Tls;

Edit: Since this is a choice of security standards it's obviously best to go with the latest (TLS 1.2 as of writing this), and not just doing what works. In fact, SSL3 has been officially prohibited from use since 2015 and TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 will likely be prohibited soon as well. source: @aske-b

How do I get the information from a meta tag with JavaScript?

My variant of the function:

const getMetaValue = (name) => {
  const element = document.querySelector(`meta[name="${name}"]`)
  return element?.getAttribute('content')
}

Create autoincrement key in Java DB using NetBeans IDE

I couldn't get the accepted answer to work using the Netbeans IDE "Create Table" GUI, and I'm on Netbeans 8.2. To get it to working, create the id column with the following options e.g.

enter image description here

and then use 'New Entity Classes from Database' option to generate the entity for the table (I created a simple table called PERSON with an ID column created exactly as above and a NAME column which is simple varchar(255) column). These generated entities leave it to the user to add the auto generated id mechanism.

GENERATION.AUTO seems to try and use sequences which Derby doesn't seem to like (error stating failed to generate sequence/sequence does not exist), GENERATION.SEQUENCE therefore doesn't work either, GENERATION.IDENTITY doesn't work (get error stating ID is null), so that leaves GENERATION.TABLE.

Set your persistence unit's 'Table Generation Strategy' button to Create. This will create tables that don't exist in the DB when your jar is run (loaded?) i.e. the table your PU needs to create in order to store ID increments. In your entity replace the generated annotations above your id field with the following...

enter image description here

I also created a controller for my entity class using 'JPA Controller Classes from Entity Classes' option. I then create a simple main class to test the id was auto generated i.e.

enter image description here

The result is that the PERSON_ID_TABLE is generated correctly and my PERSON table has two PERSON entries in it with correct, auto generated ids.

filter items in a python dictionary where keys contain a specific string

Jonathon gave you an approach using dict comprehensions in his answer. Here is an approach that deals with your do something part.

If you want to do something with the values of the dictionary, you don't need a dictionary comprehension at all:

I'm using iteritems() since you tagged your question with

results = map(some_function, [(k,v) for k,v in a_dict.iteritems() if 'foo' in k])

Now the result will be in a list with some_function applied to each key/value pair of the dictionary, that has foo in its key.

If you just want to deal with the values and ignore the keys, just change the list comprehension:

results = map(some_function, [v for k,v in a_dict.iteritems() if 'foo' in k])

some_function can be any callable, so a lambda would work as well:

results = map(lambda x: x*2, [v for k,v in a_dict.iteritems() if 'foo' in k])

The inner list is actually not required, as you can pass a generator expression to map as well:

>>> map(lambda a: a[0]*a[1], ((k,v) for k,v in {2:2, 3:2}.iteritems() if k == 2))

How to get the location of the DLL currently executing?

If you're working with an asp.net application and you want to locate assemblies when using the debugger, they are usually put into some temp directory. I wrote the this method to help with that scenario.

private string[] GetAssembly(string[] assemblyNames)
{
    string [] locations = new string[assemblyNames.Length];

    for (int loop = 0; loop <= assemblyNames.Length - 1; loop++)
    {
         locations[loop] = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies().Where(a => !a.IsDynamic && a.ManifestModule.Name == assemblyNames[loop]).Select(a => a.Location).FirstOrDefault();
    }
    return locations;
}

For more details see this blog post http://nodogmablog.bryanhogan.net/2015/05/finding-the-location-of-a-running-assembly-in-net/

If you can't change the source code, or redeploy, but you can examine the running processes on the computer use Process Explorer. I written a detailed description here.

It will list all executing dlls on the system, you may need to determine the process id of your running application, but that is usually not too difficult.

I've written a full description of how do this for a dll inside IIS - http://nodogmablog.bryanhogan.net/2016/09/locating-and-checking-an-executing-dll-on-a-running-web-server/

socket.shutdown vs socket.close

Calling close and shutdown have two different effects on the underlying socket.

The first thing to point out is that the socket is a resource in the underlying OS and multiple processes can have a handle for the same underlying socket.

When you call close it decrements the handle count by one and if the handle count has reached zero then the socket and associated connection goes through the normal close procedure (effectively sending a FIN / EOF to the peer) and the socket is deallocated.

The thing to pay attention to here is that if the handle count does not reach zero because another process still has a handle to the socket then the connection is not closed and the socket is not deallocated.

On the other hand calling shutdown for reading and writing closes the underlying connection and sends a FIN / EOF to the peer regardless of how many processes have handles to the socket. However, it does not deallocate the socket and you still need to call close afterward.

How to filter rows containing a string pattern from a Pandas dataframe

If you want to set the column you filter on as a new index, you could also consider to use .filter; if you want to keep it as a separate column then str.contains is the way to go.

Let's say you have

df = pd.DataFrame({'vals': [1, 2, 3, 4, 5], 'ids': [u'aball', u'bball', u'cnut', u'fball', 'ballxyz']})

       ids  vals
0    aball     1
1    bball     2
2     cnut     3
3    fball     4
4  ballxyz     5

and your plan is to filter all rows in which ids contains ball AND set ids as new index, you can do

df.set_index('ids').filter(like='ball', axis=0)

which gives

         vals
ids
aball       1
bball       2
fball       4
ballxyz     5

But filter also allows you to pass a regex, so you could also filter only those rows where the column entry ends with ball. In this case you use

df.set_index('ids').filter(regex='ball$', axis=0)

       vals
ids
aball     1
bball     2
fball     4

Note that now the entry with ballxyz is not included as it starts with ball and does not end with it.

If you want to get all entries that start with ball you can simple use

df.set_index('ids').filter(regex='^ball', axis=0)

yielding

         vals
ids
ballxyz     5

The same works with columns; all you then need to change is the axis=0 part. If you filter based on columns, it would be axis=1.

How to differ sessions in browser-tabs?

You can use HTML5 SessionStorage (window.sessionStorage). You will generate a random id and save in session Storage per Browser Tab. Then each browser tab has his own Id.

Data stored using sessionStorage do not persist across browser tabs, even if two tabs both contain webpages from the same domain origin. In other words, data inside sessionStorage is confined to not just the domain and directory of the invoking page, but the browser tab in which the page is contained in. Contrast that to session cookies, which do persist data from tab to tab.

What is the difference between re.search and re.match?

match is much faster than search, so instead of doing regex.search("word") you can do regex.match((.*?)word(.*?)) and gain tons of performance if you are working with millions of samples.

This comment from @ivan_bilan under the accepted answer above got me thinking if such hack is actually speeding anything up, so let's find out how many tons of performance you will really gain.

I prepared the following test suite:

import random
import re
import string
import time

LENGTH = 10
LIST_SIZE = 1000000

def generate_word():
    word = [random.choice(string.ascii_lowercase) for _ in range(LENGTH)]
    word = ''.join(word)
    return word

wordlist = [generate_word() for _ in range(LIST_SIZE)]

start = time.time()
[re.search('python', word) for word in wordlist]
print('search:', time.time() - start)

start = time.time()
[re.match('(.*?)python(.*?)', word) for word in wordlist]
print('match:', time.time() - start)

I made 10 measurements (1M, 2M, ..., 10M words) which gave me the following plot:

match vs. search regex speedtest line plot

The resulting lines are surprisingly (actually not that surprisingly) straight. And the search function is (slightly) faster given this specific pattern combination. The moral of this test: Avoid overoptimizing your code.

Change div height on button click

You have to set height as a string value when you use pixels.

document.getElementById('chartdiv').style.height = "200px"

git remove merge commit from history

Do git rebase -i <sha before the branches diverged> this will allow you to remove the merge commit and the log will be one single line as you wanted. You can also delete any commits that you do not want any more. The reason that your rebase wasn't working was that you weren't going back far enough.

WARNING: You are rewriting history doing this. Doing this with changes that have been pushed to a remote repo will cause issues. I recommend only doing this with commits that are local.

Observable.of is not a function

Actually I have imports messed up. In latest version of RxJS we can import it like that:

import 'rxjs/add/observable/of';

Why isn't my Pandas 'apply' function referencing multiple columns working?

Seems you forgot the '' of your string.

In [43]: df['Value'] = df.apply(lambda row: my_test(row['a'], row['c']), axis=1)

In [44]: df
Out[44]:
                    a    b         c     Value
          0 -1.674308  foo  0.343801  0.044698
          1 -2.163236  bar -2.046438 -0.116798
          2 -0.199115  foo -0.458050 -0.199115
          3  0.918646  bar -0.007185 -0.001006
          4  1.336830  foo  0.534292  0.268245
          5  0.976844  bar -0.773630 -0.570417

BTW, in my opinion, following way is more elegant:

In [53]: def my_test2(row):
....:     return row['a'] % row['c']
....:

In [54]: df['Value'] = df.apply(my_test2, axis=1)

Using Math.round to round to one decimal place?

Your method is right, all you have to do is add a .0 after both the tens and it will fix your problem!

double example = Math.round((187/35) * 10.0) / 10.0;

The output would be:

5.3

Fetching data from MySQL database using PHP, Displaying it in a form for editing

<form action="Delegate_update.php" method="post">
Name
<input type="text" name= "Name" value= "<?php echo $row['Name']; ?> "size=10>
Username
<input type="text" name= "Username" value= "<?php echo $row['Username']; ?> "size=10>
Password
<input type="text" name= "Password" value= "<?php echo $row['Password']; ?>" size=17>
<input type="submit" name= "submit" value="Update">
</form>

You didnt closed your opening Form in the first place, plus your code is very very messy. I wont go into the "use pdo or mysqli statements, instead of mysql" thats for you to find out on yourself. Also you have a php tag open and close below it, not sure what is needed there. Something else is that your code refers to an external page, which you didnt post, so if something isnt working there, might be handy to post it too.

Please also note that you had spaces between your $row array variables in the form. You have to link those up together by removing the space (see edited section from me). PHP isn't forgiving when it comes to those mistakes.

Then your HTML. I took the liberty to correct that too

<html>
    <head>
        <title> Delegate edit form</title>
    </head>

    <body>
          <p>Delegate update form</p>
<?php
$usernm="root";
$passwd="";
$host="localhost";
$database="swift";

mysql_connect($host,$usernm,$passwd);
mysql_select_db($database);

$sql = "SELECT * FROM usermaster WHERE User_name='".$Username."'"; // Please look at this too.
$result = mysql_query($sql) or die (mysql_error()); // dont put spaces in between it, else your code wont recognize it the query that needs to be executed
while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)){ // here too, you put a space between it
    $Name=$row['Name'];
    $Username=$row['User_name'];
    $Password=$row['User_password'];
    }
?>

Also, try to be specific. "It doesnt work" doesnt help us much, a specific error type is commonly helpful, plus any indication what the code should do (well, it was kinda obvious here, since its a login/register edit here, but for larger chunks of code it should always be explained)

Anyway, welcome to Stack Overflow

How to filter rows in pandas by regex

What is a Data Transfer Object (DTO)?

Data transfer object (DTO) describes “an object that carries data between processes” (Wikipedia) or an “object that is used to encapsulate data, and send it from one subsystem of an application to another” (Stack Overflow answer).

JPA 2.0, Criteria API, Subqueries, In Expressions

Default value in Go's method

NO,but there are some other options to implement default value. There are some good blog posts on the subject, but here are some specific examples.

**Option 1:** The caller chooses to use default values
// Both parameters are optional, use empty string for default value
func Concat1(a string, b int) string {
  if a == "" {
    a = "default-a"
  }
  if b == 0 {
    b = 5
  }

  return fmt.Sprintf("%s%d", a, b)
}

**Option 2:** A single optional parameter at the end
// a is required, b is optional.
// Only the first value in b_optional will be used.
func Concat2(a string, b_optional ...int) string {
  b := 5
  if len(b_optional) > 0 {
    b = b_optional[0]
  }

  return fmt.Sprintf("%s%d", a, b)
}

**Option 3:** A config struct
// A declarative default value syntax
// Empty values will be replaced with defaults
type Parameters struct {
  A string `default:"default-a"` // this only works with strings
  B string // default is 5
}

func Concat3(prm Parameters) string {
  typ := reflect.TypeOf(prm)

  if prm.A == "" {
    f, _ := typ.FieldByName("A")
    prm.A = f.Tag.Get("default")
  }

  if prm.B == 0 {
    prm.B = 5
  }

  return fmt.Sprintf("%s%d", prm.A, prm.B)
}

**Option 4:** Full variadic argument parsing (javascript style)
func Concat4(args ...interface{}) string {
  a := "default-a"
  b := 5

  for _, arg := range args {
    switch t := arg.(type) {
      case string:
        a = t
      case int:
        b = t
      default:
        panic("Unknown argument")
    }
  }

  return fmt.Sprintf("%s%d", a, b)
}

Python loop to run for certain amount of seconds

Try this:

import time

t_end = time.time() + 60 * 15
while time.time() < t_end:
    # do whatever you do

This will run for 15 min x 60 s = 900 seconds.

Function time.time returns the current time in seconds since 1st Jan 1970. The value is in floating point, so you can even use it with sub-second precision. In the beginning the value t_end is calculated to be "now" + 15 minutes. The loop will run until the current time exceeds this preset ending time.

How to remove an element from the flow?

I know this question is several years old, but what I think you're trying to do is get it so where a large element, like an image doesn't interfere with the height of a div?

I just ran into something similar, where I wanted an image to overflow a div, but I wanted it to be at the end of a string of text, so I didn't know where it would end up being.

A solution I figured out was to put the margin-bottom: -element's height, so if the image is 20px hight,

margin-bottom: -20px; vertical-align: top;

for example.

That way it floated over the outside of the div, and stayed next to the last word in the string.

How to use SortedMap interface in Java?

tl;dr

Use either of the Map implementations bundled with Java 6 and later that implement NavigableMap (the successor to SortedMap):

  • Use TreeMap if running single-threaded, or if the map is to be read-only across threads after first being populated.
  • Use ConcurrentSkipListMap if manipulating the map across threads.

NavigableMap

FYI, the SortedMap interface was succeeded by the NavigableMap interface.

You would only need to use SortedMap if using 3rd-party implementations that have not yet declared their support of NavigableMap. Of the maps bundled with Java, both of the implementations that implement SortedMap also implement NavigableMap.

Interface versus concrete class

s SortedMap the best answer? TreeMap?

As others mentioned, SortedMap is an interface while TreeMap is one of multiple implementations of that interface (and of the more recent NavigableMap.

Having an interface allows you to write code that uses the map without breaking if you later decide to switch between implementations.

NavigableMap< Employee , Project > currentAssignments = new TreeSet<>() ;
currentAssignments.put( alice , writeAdCopyProject ) ;
currentAssignments.put( bob , setUpNewVendorsProject ) ;

This code still works if later change implementations. Perhaps you later need a map that supports concurrency for use across threads. Change that declaration to:

NavigableMap< Employee , Project > currentAssignments = new ConcurrentSkipListMap<>() ;

…and the rest of your code using that map continues to work.

Choosing implementation

There are ten implementations of Map bundled with Java 11. And more implementations provided by 3rd parties such as Google Guava.

Here is a graphic table I made highlighting the various features of each. Notice that two of the bundled implementations keep the keys in sorted order by examining the key’s content. Also, EnumMap keeps its keys in the order of the objects defined on that enum. Lastly, the LinkedHashMap remembers original insertion order.

Saving any file to in the database, just convert it to a byte array?

Confirming I was able to use the answer posted by MadBoy and edited by Otiel on both MS SQL Server 2012 and 2014 in addition to the versions previously listed using varbinary(MAX) columns.

If you are wondering why you cannot "Filestream" (noted in a separate answer) as a datatype in the SQL Server table designer or why you cannot set a column's datatype to "Filestream" using T-SQL, it is because FILESTREAM is a storage attribute of the varbinary(MAX) datatype. It is not a datatype on its own.

See these articles on setting up and enabling FILESTREAM on a database: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645923(v=sql.120).aspx

http://www.kodyaz.com/t-sql/default-filestream-filegroup-is-not-available-in-database.aspx

Once configured, a filestream enabled varbinary(max) column can be added as so:

ALTER TABLE TableName

ADD ColumnName varbinary(max) FILESTREAM NULL

GO

Accessing last x characters of a string in Bash

Another workaround is to use grep -o with a little regex magic to get three chars followed by the end of line:

$ foo=1234567890
$ echo $foo | grep -o ...$
890

To make it optionally get the 1 to 3 last chars, in case of strings with less than 3 chars, you can use egrep with this regex:

$ echo a | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
a
$ echo ab | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
ab
$ echo abc | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
abc
$ echo abcd | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
bcd

You can also use different ranges, such as 5,10 to get the last five to ten chars.

How to pass in parameters when use resource service?

I think I see your problem, you need to use the @ syntax to define parameters you will pass in this way, also I'm not sure what loginID or password are doing you don't seem to define them anywhere and they are not being used as URL parameters so are they being sent as query parameters?

This is what I can suggest based on what I see so far:

.factory('MagComments', function ($resource) {
    return $resource('http://localhost/dooleystand/ci/api/magCommenct/:id', {
      loginID : organEntity,
      password : organCommpassword,
      id : '@magId'
    });
  })

The @magId string will tell the resource to replace :id with the property magId on the object you pass it as parameters.

I'd suggest reading over the documentation here (I know it's a bit opaque) very carefully and looking at the examples towards the end, this should help a lot.

How to use the IEqualityComparer

Your GetHashCode implementation always returns the same value. Distinct relies on a good hash function to work efficiently because it internally builds a hash table.

When implementing interfaces of classes it is important to read the documentation, to know which contract you’re supposed to implement.1

In your code, the solution is to forward GetHashCode to Class_reglement.Numf.GetHashCode and implement it appropriately there.

Apart from that, your Equals method is full of unnecessary code. It could be rewritten as follows (same semantics, ¼ of the code, more readable):

public bool Equals(Class_reglement x, Class_reglement y)
{
    return x.Numf == y.Numf;
}

Lastly, the ToList call is unnecessary and time-consuming: AddRange accepts any IEnumerable so conversion to a List isn’t required. AsEnumerable is also redundant here since processing the result in AddRange will cause this anyway.

1 Writing code without knowing what it actually does is called cargo cult programming. It’s a surprisingly widespread practice. It fundamentally doesn’t work.

C#: Limit the length of a string?

You can avoid the if statement if you pad it out to the length you want to limit it to.

string name1 = "Christopher";
string name2 = "Jay";
int maxLength = 5;

name1 = name1.PadRight(maxLength).Substring(0, maxLength);
name2 = name2.PadRight(maxLength).Substring(0, maxLength);

name1 will have Chris

name2 will have Jay

No if statement needed to check the length before you use substring

How can I quickly and easily convert spreadsheet data to JSON?

Assuming you really mean easiest and are not necessarily looking for a way to do this programmatically, you can do this:

  1. Add, if not already there, a row of "column Musicians" to the spreadsheet. That is, if you have data in columns such as:

    Rory Gallagher      Guitar
    Gerry McAvoy        Bass
    Rod de'Ath          Drums
    Lou Martin          Keyboards
    Donkey Kong Sioux Self-Appointed Semi-official Stomper

    Note: you might want to add "Musician" and "Instrument" in row 0 (you might have to insert a row there)

  2. Save the file as a CSV file.

  3. Copy the contents of the CSV file to the clipboard

  4. Go to http://www.convertcsv.com/csv-to-json.htm

  5. Verify that the "First row is column names" checkbox is checked

  6. Paste the CSV data into the content area

  7. Mash the "Convert CSV to JSON" button

    With the data shown above, you will now have:

    [
      {
        "MUSICIAN":"Rory Gallagher",
        "INSTRUMENT":"Guitar"
      },
      {
        "MUSICIAN":"Gerry McAvoy",
        "INSTRUMENT":"Bass"
      },
      {
        "MUSICIAN":"Rod D'Ath",
        "INSTRUMENT":"Drums"
      },
      {
        "MUSICIAN":"Lou Martin",
        "INSTRUMENT":"Keyboards"
      }
      {
        "MUSICIAN":"Donkey Kong Sioux",
        "INSTRUMENT":"Self-Appointed Semi-Official Stomper"
      }
    ]

    With this simple/minimalistic data, it's probably not required, but with large sets of data, it can save you time and headache in the proverbial long run by checking this data for aberrations and abnormalcy.

  8. Go here: http://jsonlint.com/

  9. Paste the JSON into the content area

  10. Pres the "Validate" button.

If the JSON is good, you will see a "Valid JSON" remark in the Results section below; if not, it will tell you where the problem[s] lie so that you can fix it/them.

How to sort a list of objects based on an attribute of the objects?

If the attribute you want to sort by is a property, then you can avoid importing operator.attrgetter and use the property's fget method instead.

For example, for a class Circle with a property radius we could sort a list of circles by radii as follows:

result = sorted(circles, key=Circle.radius.fget)

This is not the most well-known feature but often saves me a line with the import.

    self.tableView.tableHeaderView = cellTableViewHeader

    // We set the table view footer, just know that it will also remove extra cells from tableview.
    let cellTableViewFooter = tableView.dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier(TableViewController.tableViewFooterCustomCellIdentifier) as! UITableViewCell
    cellTableViewFooter.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, self.tableView.bounds.width, self.heightCache[TableViewController.tableViewFooterCustomCellIdentifier]!)
    self.tableView.tableFooterView = cellTableViewFooter
}

Accessing localhost:port from Android emulator

if you are using some 3rd party package like node express or angular-cli you will need to find the IP of your machine, and attach your host to that IP within the server startup config (instead of localhost). Then launch it from the emulator using the IP. For example, I had to use: ng serve -H 10.149.212.104 to use the angular-cli. Then from the emulator I used: http://10.149.212.104:4200

Saving binary data as file using JavaScript from a browser

This is possible if the browser supports the download property in anchor elements.

var sampleBytes = new Int8Array(4096);

var saveByteArray = (function () {
    var a = document.createElement("a");
    document.body.appendChild(a);
    a.style = "display: none";
    return function (data, name) {
        var blob = new Blob(data, {type: "octet/stream"}),
            url = window.URL.createObjectURL(blob);
        a.href = url;
        a.download = name;
        a.click();
        window.URL.revokeObjectURL(url);
    };
}());

saveByteArray([sampleBytes], 'example.txt');

More than 1 row in <Input type="textarea" />

As said by Sparky in comments on many answers to this question, there is NOT any textarea value for the type attribute of the input tag.

On other terms, the following markup is not valid :

And the browser replaces it by the default :

<input type="text" />

To define a multi-lines text input, use :

<textarea></textarea>

See the textarea element documentation for more details.

How to Correctly handle Weak Self in Swift Blocks with Arguments

Use Capture list

Defining a Capture List

Each item in a capture list is a pairing of the weak or unowned keyword with a reference to a class instance (such as self) or a variable initialized with some value (such as delegate = self.delegate!). These pairings are written within a pair of square braces, separated by commas.

Place the capture list before a closure’s parameter list and return type if they are provided:

lazy var someClosure: (Int, String) -> String = {
    [unowned self, weak delegate = self.delegate!] (index: Int, stringToProcess: String) -> String in
    // closure body goes here
}

If a closure does not specify a parameter list or return type because they can be inferred from context, place the capture list at the very start of the closure, followed by the in keyword:

lazy var someClosure: Void -> String = {
    [unowned self, weak delegate = self.delegate!] in
    // closure body goes here
}

Extract filename and extension in Bash

Magic file recognition

In addition to the lot of good answers on this Stack Overflow question I would like to add:

Under Linux and other unixen, there is a magic command named file, that do filetype detection by analysing some first bytes of file. This is a very old tool, initialy used for print servers (if not created for... I'm not sure about that).

file myfile.txt
myfile.txt: UTF-8 Unicode text

file -b --mime-type myfile.txt
text/plain

Standards extensions could be found in /etc/mime.types (on my Debian GNU/Linux desktop. See man file and man mime.types. Perhaps you have to install the file utility and mime-support packages):

grep $( file -b --mime-type myfile.txt ) </etc/mime.types
text/plain asc txt text pot brf srt

You could create a function for determining right extension. There is a little (not perfect) sample:

file2ext() {
    local _mimetype=$(file -Lb --mime-type "$1") _line _basemimetype
    case ${_mimetype##*[/.-]} in
        gzip | bzip2 | xz | z )
            _mimetype=${_mimetype##*[/.-]}
            _mimetype=${_mimetype//ip}
            _basemimetype=$(file -zLb --mime-type "$1")
            ;;
        stream )
            _mimetype=($(file -Lb "$1"))
            [ "${_mimetype[1]}" = "compressed" ] &&
                _basemimetype=$(file -b --mime-type - < <(
                        ${_mimetype,,} -d <"$1")) ||
                _basemimetype=${_mimetype,,}
            _mimetype=${_mimetype,,}
            ;;
        executable )  _mimetype='' _basemimetype='' ;;
        dosexec )     _mimetype='' _basemimetype='exe' ;;
        shellscript ) _mimetype='' _basemimetype='sh' ;;
        * )
            _basemimetype=$_mimetype
            _mimetype=''
            ;;
    esac
    while read -a _line ;do
        if [ "$_line" == "$_basemimetype" ] ;then
            [ "$_line[1]" ] &&
                _basemimetype=${_line[1]} ||
                _basemimetype=${_basemimetype##*[/.-]}
            break
        fi
        done </etc/mime.types
    case ${_basemimetype##*[/.-]} in
        executable ) _basemimetype='' ;;
        shellscript ) _basemimetype='sh' ;;
        dosexec ) _basemimetype='exe' ;;
        * ) ;;
    esac
    [ "$_mimetype" ] && [ "$_basemimetype" != "$_mimetype" ] &&
      printf ${2+-v} $2 "%s.%s" ${_basemimetype##*[/.-]} ${_mimetype##*[/.-]} ||
      printf ${2+-v} $2 "%s" ${_basemimetype##*[/.-]}
}

This function could set a Bash variable that can be used later:

(This is inspired from @Petesh right answer):

filename=$(basename "$fullfile")
filename="${filename%.*}"
file2ext "$fullfile" extension

echo "$fullfile -> $filename . $extension"

Custom HTTP Authorization Header

No, that is not a valid production according to the "credentials" definition in RFC 2617. You give a valid auth-scheme, but auth-param values must be of the form token "=" ( token | quoted-string ) (see section 1.2), and your example doesn't use "=" that way.

Convert Go map to json

Since this question was asked/last answered, support for non string key types for maps for json Marshal/UnMarshal has been added through the use of TextMarshaler and TextUnmarshaler interfaces here. You could just implement these interfaces for your key types and then json.Marshal would work as expected.

package main

import (
    "encoding/json"
    "fmt"
    "strconv"
)

// Num wraps the int value so that we can implement the TextMarshaler and TextUnmarshaler
type Num int

func (n *Num) UnmarshalText(text []byte) error {
    i, err := strconv.Atoi(string(text))
    if err != nil {
        return err
    }
    *n = Num(i)
    return nil
}

func (n Num) MarshalText() (text []byte, err error) {
    return []byte(strconv.Itoa(int(n))), nil
}

type Foo struct {
    Number Num    `json:"number"`
    Title  string `json:"title"`
}

func main() {
    datas := make(map[Num]Foo)

    for i := 0; i < 10; i++ {
        datas[Num(i)] = Foo{Number: 1, Title: "test"}
    }

    jsonString, err := json.Marshal(datas)
    if err != nil {
        panic(err)
    }

    fmt.Println(datas)
    fmt.Println(jsonString)

    m := make(map[Num]Foo)
    err = json.Unmarshal(jsonString, &m)
    if err != nil {
        panic(err)
    }

    fmt.Println(m)
}

Output:

Why is a "GRANT USAGE" created the first time I grant a user privileges?

I was trying to find the meaning of GRANT USAGE on *.* TO and found here. I can clarify that GRANT USAGE on *.* TO user IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD password will be granted when you create the user with the following command (CREATE):

CREATE USER 'user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

When you grant privilege with GRANT, new privilege s will be added on top of it.

How does one check if a table exists in an Android SQLite database?

Although there are already a lot of good answers to this question, I came up with another solution that I think is more simple. Surround your query with a try block and the following catch:

catch (SQLiteException e){
    if (e.getMessage().contains("no such table")){
            Log.e(TAG, "Creating table " + TABLE_NAME + "because it doesn't exist!" );
            // create table
            // re-run query, etc.
    }
}

It worked for me!

In Chart.js set chart title, name of x axis and y axis?

If you have already set labels for your axis like how @andyhasit and @Marcus mentioned, and would like to change it at a later time, then you can try this:

chart.options.scales.yAxes[ 0 ].scaleLabel.labelString = "New Label";

Full config for reference:

var chartConfig = {
    type: 'line',
    data: {
      datasets: [ {
        label: 'DefaultLabel',
        backgroundColor: '#ff0000',
        borderColor: '#ff0000',
        fill: false,
        data: [],
      } ]
    },
    options: {
      responsive: true,
      scales: {
        xAxes: [ {
          type: 'time',
          display: true,
          scaleLabel: {
            display: true,
            labelString: 'Date'
          },
          ticks: {
            major: {

            }
          }
        } ],
        yAxes: [ {
          display: true,
          scaleLabel: {
            display: true,
            labelString: 'value'
          }

How to load external scripts dynamically in Angular?

Yet another option would be to utilize scriptjs package for that matter which

allows you to load script resources on-demand from any URL

Example

Install the package:

npm i scriptjs

and type definitions for scriptjs:

npm install --save @types/scriptjs

Then import $script.get() method:

import { get } from 'scriptjs';

and finally load script resource, in our case Google Maps library:

export class AppComponent implements OnInit {
  ngOnInit() {
    get("https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=", () => {
        //Google Maps library has been loaded...
    });
  }
}

Read file line by line in PowerShell

Get-Content has bad performance; it tries to read the file into memory all at once.

C# (.NET) file reader reads each line one by one

Best Performace

foreach($line in [System.IO.File]::ReadLines("C:\path\to\file.txt"))
{
       $line
}

Or slightly less performant

[System.IO.File]::ReadLines("C:\path\to\file.txt") | ForEach-Object {
       $_
}

The foreach statement will likely be slightly faster than ForEach-Object (see comments below for more information).

Section vs Article HTML5

also, for syndicated content "Authors are encouraged to use the article element instead of the section element when it would make sense to syndicate the contents of the element."

Why can't I use switch statement on a String?

Beside the above good arguments, I will add that lot of people today see switch as an obsolete remainder of procedural past of Java (back to C times).

I don't fully share this opinion, I think switch can have its usefulness in some cases, at least because of its speed, and anyway it is better than some series of cascading numerical else if I saw in some code...

But indeed, it is worth looking at the case where you need a switch, and see if it cannot be replaced by something more OO. For example enums in Java 1.5+, perhaps HashTable or some other collection (sometime I regret we don't have (anonymous) functions as first class citizen, as in Lua — which doesn't have switch — or JavaScript) or even polymorphism.

How can I connect to MySQL in Python 3 on Windows?

Summary

Mysqlclient is the best alternative(IMHO) because it works flawlessly with Python 3+, follows expected conventions (unlike mysql connector), uses the object name mysqldb which enables convenient porting of existing software and is used by Django for Python 3 builds

Is there a repository available where the binaries exist for mysqldb?

Yes. mysqlclient allows you to use mysqldb functions. Though, remember this is not a direct port by mysqldb, but a build by mysqlclient

How can I connect to MySQL in Python 3 on Windows?

pip install mysqlclient

Example

#!/Python36/python
#Please change above path to suit your platform. Am running it on Windows
import MySQLdb
db = MySQLdb.connect(user="my-username",passwd="my-password",host="localhost",db="my-databasename")
cursor = db.cursor()
cursor.execute("SELECT * from my-table-name")
data=cursor.fetchall()
for row in data :
    print (row)
db.close()

I can't find mysqldb for Python 3.

mysqldb has not been ported yet

Round to at most 2 decimal places (only if necessary)

Easiest way:

+num.toFixed(2)

It converts it to a string, and then back into an integer / float.

The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Ntlm' The authentication header received from the server was 'NTLM'

If I recall correctly, there are some issues with adding SharePoint web services as a VS2K8 "Service Reference". You need to add it as an old-style "Web Reference" to work properly.

How to get object size in memory?

Enumerations on PHP

This is my take on "dynamic" enum... so that i can call it with variables, ex. from a form.

look at updated verison below this codeblock...

$value = "concert";
$Enumvalue = EnumCategory::enum($value);
//$EnumValue = 1

class EnumCategory{
    const concert = 1;
    const festival = 2;
    const sport = 3;
    const nightlife = 4;
    const theatre = 5;
    const musical = 6;
    const cinema = 7;
    const charity = 8;
    const museum = 9;
    const other = 10;

    public function enum($string){
        return constant('EnumCategory::'.$string);
    }
}

UPDATE: Better way of doing it...

class EnumCategory {

    static $concert = 1;
    static $festival = 2;
    static $sport = 3;
    static $nightlife = 4;
    static $theatre = 5;
    static $musical = 6;
    static $cinema = 7;
    static $charity = 8;
    static $museum = 9;
    static $other = 10;

}

Call with

EnumCategory::${$category};

Array Size (Length) in C#

it goes like this: 1D:

 type[] name=new type[size]  //or =new type[]{.....elements...}

2D:

 type[][]name=new type[size][] //second brackets are emtpy

then as you use this array :

 name[i]=new type[size_of_sec.Dim]

or You can declare something like a matrix

type[ , ] name=new type [size1,size2]

What is the python keyword "with" used for?

Explanation from the Preshing on Programming blog:

It’s handy when you have two related operations which you’d like to execute as a pair, with a block of code in between. The classic example is opening a file, manipulating the file, then closing it:

 with open('output.txt', 'w') as f:
     f.write('Hi there!')

The above with statement will automatically close the file after the nested block of code. (Continue reading to see exactly how the close occurs.) The advantage of using a with statement is that it is guaranteed to close the file no matter how the nested block exits. If an exception occurs before the end of the block, it will close the file before the exception is caught by an outer exception handler. If the nested block were to contain a return statement, or a continue or break statement, the with statement would automatically close the file in those cases, too.

Difference between a virtual function and a pure virtual function

A pure virtual function is usually not (but can be) implemented in a base class and must be implemented in a leaf subclass.

You denote that fact by appending the "= 0" to the declaration, like this:

class AbstractBase
{
    virtual void PureVirtualFunction() = 0;
}

Then you cannot declare and instantiate a subclass without it implementing the pure virtual function:

class Derived : public AbstractBase
{
    virtual void PureVirtualFunction() override { }
}

By adding the override keyword, the compiler will ensure that there is a base class virtual function with the same signature.

Update select2 data without rebuilding the control

I solved this issue by using the ajax option and specifying a custom transport function.

see this fiddle Select2 dynamic options demo

Here is the relevant js to get this to work.

var $items = [];

let options = {
ajax: {
    transport: function(params, success, failure) {
    let items = $items;

    if (params.data && params.data.q) {
        items = items.filter(function(item) {
        return new RegExp(params.data.q).test(item.text);
        });
    }

    let promise = new Promise(function(resolve, reject) {
        resolve({
        results: items
        });
    });

    promise.then(success);
    promise.catch(failure);
    }
},
placeholder: 'Select item'
};

$('select').select2(options);

let count = $items.length + 1;

$('button').on('click', function() {
$items.push({
    id: count,
    text: 'Item' + count
});
count++;
});

Where can I set path to make.exe on Windows?

The path is in the registry but usually you edit through this interface:

  1. Go to Control Panel -> System -> System settings -> Environment Variables.
  2. Scroll down in system variables until you find PATH.
  3. Click edit and change accordingly.
  4. BE SURE to include a semicolon at the end of the previous as that is the delimiter, i.e. c:\path;c:\path2
  5. Launch a new console for the settings to take effect.

Modulo operation with negative numbers

The % operator in C is not the modulo operator but the remainder operator.

Modulo and remainder operators differ with respect to negative values.

With a remainder operator, the sign of the result is the same as the sign of the dividend while with a modulo operator the sign of the result is the same as the divisor.

C defines the % operation for a % b as:

  a == (a / b * b) + a % b

with / the integer division with truncation towards 0. That's the truncation that is done towards 0 (and not towards negative inifinity) that defines the % as a remainder operator rather than a modulo operator.

Show DataFrame as table in iPython Notebook

It seems you can just display both dfs using a comma in between in display. I noticed this on some notebooks on github. This code is from Jake VanderPlas's notebook.

class display(object):
    """Display HTML representation of multiple objects"""
    template = """<div style="float: left; padding: 10px;">
    <p style='font-family:"Courier New", Courier, monospace'>{0}</p>{1}
    </div>"""
    def __init__(self, *args):
        self.args = args

    def _repr_html_(self):
        return '\n'.join(self.template.format(a, eval(a)._repr_html_())
                     for a in self.args)

    def __repr__(self):
        return '\n\n'.join(a + '\n' + repr(eval(a))
                       for a in self.args)

display('df', "df2")

Combine two tables that have no common fields

If the tables have no common fields then there is no way to combine the data in any meaningful view. You would more likely end up with a view that contains duplicated data from both tables.

Spring Boot: Unable to start EmbeddedWebApplicationContext due to missing EmbeddedServletContainerFactory bean

I am using gradle, met seem issue when I have a commandLineRunner consumes kafka topics and a health check endpoint for receiving incoming hooks. I spent 12 hours to figure out, finally found that I used mybatis-spring-boot-starter with spring-boot-starter-web, and they have some conflicts. Latter I directly introduced mybatis-spring, mybatis and spring-jdbc rather than the mybatis-spring-boot-starter, and the program worked well.

hope this helps

Iptables setting multiple multiports in one rule

As far as i know, writing multiple matches is logical AND operation; so what your rule means is if the destination port is "59100" AND "3000" then reject connection with tcp-reset; Workaround is using -mport option. Look out for the man page.

Under which circumstances textAlign property works in Flutter?

You can align text anywhere in the scaffold or container except center:-

Its works for me anywhere in my application:-

new Text(

                "Nextperience",

//i have setted in center.

                textAlign: TextAlign.center,

//when i want it left.

 //textAlign: TextAlign.left,

//when i want it right.

 //textAlign: TextAlign.right,

                style: TextStyle(

                    fontSize: 16,

                    color: Colors.blue[900],

                    fontWeight: FontWeight.w500),

              ),

How do I represent a time only value in .NET?

I say use a DateTime. If you don't need the date portion, just ignore it. If you need to display just the time to the user, output it formatted to the user like this:

DateTime.Now.ToString("t");  // outputs 10:00 PM

It seems like all the extra work of making a new class or even using a TimeSpan is unnecessary.

Is there an equivalent of 'which' on the Windows command line?

The GnuWin32 tools have which, along with a whole slew of other Unix tools.

How can I generate random alphanumeric strings?

We also use custom string random but we implemented is as a string's helper so it provides some flexibility...

public static string Random(this string chars, int length = 8)
{
    var randomString = new StringBuilder();
    var random = new Random();

    for (int i = 0; i < length; i++)
        randomString.Append(chars[random.Next(chars.Length)]);

    return randomString.ToString();
}

Usage

var random = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ".Random();

or

var random = "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789".Random(16);

This also has a fallback to JAVA_HOME if ANDROID_STUDIO_JAVA_HOME is not set.

Save current directory in variable using Bash?

You can use shell in-build variable PWD, like this:

export PATH=$PATH:$PWD+somethingelse

How can I check if a string contains ANY letters from the alphabet?

You can use islower() on your string to see if it contains some lowercase letters (amongst other characters). or it with isupper() to also check if contains some uppercase letters:

below: letters in the string: test yields true

>>> z = "(555) 555 - 5555 ext. 5555"
>>> z.isupper() or z.islower()
True

below: no letters in the string: test yields false.

>>> z= "(555).555-5555"
>>> z.isupper() or z.islower()
False
>>>

Not to be mixed up with isalpha() which returns True only if all characters are letters, which isn't what you want.

Note that Barm's answer completes mine nicely, since mine doesn't handle the mixed case well.

Getting current directory in .NET web application

The current directory is a system-level feature; it returns the directory that the server was launched from. It has nothing to do with the website.

You want HttpRuntime.AppDomainAppPath.

If you're in an HTTP request, you can also call Server.MapPath("~/Whatever").

sendUserActionEvent() is null

Even i face similar problem after I did some modification in code related to Cursor.

public boolean onContextItemSelected(MenuItem item)
{
        AdapterContextMenuInfo info = (AdapterContextMenuInfo)item.getMenuInfo();
        Cursor c = (Cursor)adapter.getItem(info.position);
        long id = c.getLong(...);
        String tempCity = c.getString(...);
            //c.close();
...
}

After i commented out //c.close(); It is working fine. Try out at your end and update Initial setup is as... I have a list view in Fragment, and trying to delete and item from list via contextMenu.

What's an object file in C?

  1. An Object file is the compiled file itself. There is no difference between the two.

  2. An executable file is formed by linking the Object files.

  3. Object file contains low level instructions which can be understood by the CPU. That is why it is also called machine code.

  4. This low level machine code is the binary representation of the instructions which you can also write directly using assembly language and then process the assembly language code (represented in English) into machine language (represented in Hex) using an assembler.

Here's a typical high level flow for this process for code in High Level Language such as C

--> goes through pre-processor

--> to give optimized code, still in C

--> goes through compiler

--> to give assembly code

--> goes through an assembler

--> to give code in machine language which is stored in OBJECT FILES

--> goes through Linker

--> to get an executable file.

This flow can have some variations for example most compilers can directly generate the machine language code, without going through an assembler. Similarly, they can do the pre-processing for you. Still, it is nice to break up the constituents for a better understanding.

setInterval in a React app

Updated 10-second countdown using Hooks (a new feature proposal that lets you use state and other React features without writing a class. They’re currently in React v16.7.0-alpha).

import React, { useState, useEffect } from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';

const Clock = () => {
    const [currentCount, setCount] = useState(10);
    const timer = () => setCount(currentCount - 1);

    useEffect(
        () => {
            if (currentCount <= 0) {
                return;
            }
            const id = setInterval(timer, 1000);
            return () => clearInterval(id);
        },
        [currentCount]
    );

    return <div>{currentCount}</div>;
};

const App = () => <Clock />;

ReactDOM.render(<App />, document.getElementById('root'));

What are MVP and MVC and what is the difference?

They each addresses different problems and can even be combined together to have something like below

The Combined Pattern

There is also a complete comparison of MVC, MVP and MVVM here

See what's in a stash without applying it

From the man git-stash page:

The modifications stashed away by this command can be listed with git stash list, inspected with git stash show

show [<stash>]
       Show the changes recorded in the stash as a diff between the stashed state and
       its original parent. When no <stash> is given, shows the latest one. By default,
       the command shows the diffstat, but it will accept any format known to git diff
       (e.g., git stash show -p stash@{1} to view the second most recent stash in patch
       form).

To list the stashed modifications

git stash list

To show files changed in the last stash

git stash show

So, to view the content of the most recent stash, run

git stash show -p

To view the content of an arbitrary stash, run something like

git stash show -p stash@{1}

dynamically add and remove view to viewpager

I find a good solution for this issue, this solution can make it work and no need to recreate Fragments.
My key point is:

  1. setup ViewPager every time you delete or add Tab(Fragment).
  2. Override the getItemId method, return a specific id rather than position.

How can I convert an image into Base64 string using JavaScript?

Needed to leverage reader to convert blob to base64, prefer to use async-await syntax so I chose to extract reader logic into helper like this:

//* Convert resBlob to base64
export const blobToData = (blob: Blob) => {
  return new Promise((resolve) => {
    const reader = new FileReader()
    reader.onloadend = () => resolve(reader.result)
    reader.readAsDataURL(blob)
  })
}

and calling it using await in main code:

//* Convert resBlob to dataUrl and resolve
const resData = await blobToData(resBlob)

Laravel Eloquent update just if changes have been made

I like to add this method, if you are using an edit form, you can use this code to save the changes in your update(Request $request, $id) function:

$post = Post::find($id);
$post->fill($request->input())->save();

keep in mind that you have to name your inputs with the same column name. The fill() function will do all the work for you :)

Read a Csv file with powershell and capture corresponding data

So I figured out what is wrong with this statement:

Import-Csv H:\Programs\scripts\SomeText.csv |`

(Original)

Import-Csv H:\Programs\scripts\SomeText.csv -Delimiter "|"

(Proposed, You must use quotations; otherwise, it will not work and ISE will give you an error)

It requires the -Delimiter "|", in order for the variable to be populated with an array of items. Otherwise, Powershell ISE does not display the list of items.

I cannot say that I would recommend the | operator, since it is used to pipe cmdlets into one another.

I still cannot get the if statement to return true and output the values entered via the prompt.

If anyone else can help, it would be great. I still appreciate the post, it has been very helpful!

prevent iphone default keyboard when focusing an <input>

So here is my solution (similar to John Vance's answer):

First go here and get a function to detect mobile browsers.

http://detectmobilebrowsers.com/

They have a lot of different ways to detect if you are on mobile, so find one that works with what you are using.

Your HTML page (pseudo code):

If Mobile Then
    <input id="selling-date" type="date" placeholder="YYYY-MM-DD" max="2999-12-31" min="2010-01-01" value="2015-01-01" />
else
    <input id="selling-date" type="text" class="date-picker" readonly="readonly" placeholder="YYYY-MM-DD" max="2999-12-31" min="2010-01-01" value="2015-01-01" />

JQuery:

$( ".date-picker" ).each(function() {
    var min = $( this ).attr("min");
    var max = $( this ).attr("max");
    $( this ).datepicker({
        dateFormat: "yy-mm-dd",
        minDate: min,
        maxDate: max
    });
});

This way you can still use native date selectors in mobile while still setting the min and max dates either way.

The field for non mobile should be read only because if a mobile browser like chrome for ios "requests desktop version" then they can get around the mobile check and you still want to prevent the keyboard from showing up.

However if the field is read only it could look to a user like they cant change the field. You could fix this by changing the CSS to make it look like it isn't read only (ie change border-color to black) but unless you are changing the CSS for all input tags you will find it hard to keep the look consistent across browsers.

To get arround that I just add a calendar image button to the date picker. Just change your JQuery code a bit:

$( ".date-picker" ).each(function() {
    var min = $( this ).attr("min");
    var max = $( this ).attr("max");
    $( this ).datepicker({
        dateFormat: "yy-mm-dd",
        minDate: min,
        maxDate: max,
        showOn: "both",
        buttonImage: "images/calendar.gif",
        buttonImageOnly: true,
        buttonText: "Select date"
    });
});

Note: you will have to find a suitable image.

Free tool to Create/Edit PNG Images?

Inkscape is a vector drawing program that exports PNG images. So, you end up editing SVG documents and exporting them to PNGs. Inkscape is good if you're starting from scratch, but wouldn't be ideal if you just want to edit existing PNGs.

Note--Inkscape is open source and available for free on multiple platforms.

You might want to take a look at a similar question posted on Stack Overflow. It uses the .apply() method to accomplish this.

Make browser window blink in task Bar

Supposedly you can do this on windows with the growl for windows javascript API:

http://ajaxian.com/archives/growls-for-windows-and-a-web-notification-api

Your users will have to install growl though.

Eventually this is going to be part of google gears, in the form of the NotificationAPI:

http://code.google.com/p/gears/wiki/NotificationAPI

So I would recommend using the growl approach for now, falling back to window title updates if possible, and already engineering in attempts to use the Gears Notification API, for when it eventually becomes available.

How to use Sublime over SSH

Use FileZilla

This applies to Mac and Windows users (I use on Mac) . I've used several of the listed answers over the years and have found that FileZilla suits my needs well when editing files on a remote host that I have SSH access to. It's also quick to setup.

  • I config a new server connection
  • connect to the server
  • right click on the file I'd like to edit and select View/Edit.

This brings up my default editor (Sublime) but it will work with any editor you have installed.

  • Once I save the file, Filezilla automatically prompts me asking if I'd like to "Upload this file back to the server", I click "Yes" and then it's updated.

Create a new RGB OpenCV image using Python?

The new cv2 interface for Python integrates numpy arrays into the OpenCV framework, which makes operations much simpler as they are represented with simple multidimensional arrays. For example, your question would be answered with:

import cv2 # Not actually necessary if you just want to create an image.
import numpy as np
blank_image = np.zeros((height,width,3), np.uint8)

This initialises an RGB-image that is just black. Now, for example, if you wanted to set the left half of the image to blue and the right half to green , you could do so easily:

blank_image[:,0:width//2] = (255,0,0)      # (B, G, R)
blank_image[:,width//2:width] = (0,255,0)

If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble in future, as well as having to ask questions such as this one, I would strongly recommend using the cv2 interface rather than the older cv one. I made the change recently and have never looked back. You can read more about cv2 at the OpenCV Change Logs.

How can I alias a default import in JavaScript?

defaultMember already is an alias - it doesn't need to be the name of the exported function/thing. Just do

import alias from 'my-module';

Alternatively you can do

import {default as alias} from 'my-module';

but that's rather esoteric.

How to insert a large block of HTML in JavaScript?

Add each line of the code to a variable and then write the variable to your inner HTML. See below:

var div = document.createElement('div');
div.setAttribute('class', 'post block bc2');
var str = "First Line";
str += "Second Line";
str += "So on, all of your lines";
div.innerHTML = str;
document.getElementById('posts').appendChild(div);

How do you redirect to a page using the POST verb?

If you want to pass data between two actions during a redirect without include any data in the query string, put the model in the TempData object.

ACTION

TempData["datacontainer"] = modelData;

VIEW

var modelData= TempData["datacontainer"] as ModelDataType;

TempData is meant to be a very short-lived instance, and you should only use it during the current and the subsequent requests only! Since TempData works this way, you need to know for sure what the next request will be, and redirecting to another view is the only time you can guarantee this.

Therefore, the only scenario where using TempData will reliably work is when you are redirecting.

How to check if a column exists in Pandas

To check if one or more columns all exist, you can use set.issubset, as in:

if set(['A','C']).issubset(df.columns):
   df['sum'] = df['A'] + df['C']

As @brianpck points out in a comment, set([]) can alternatively be constructed with curly braces,

if {'A', 'C'}.issubset(df.columns):

See this question for a discussion of the curly-braces syntax.

Or, you can use a list comprehension, as in:

if all([item in df.columns for item in ['A','C']]):

How to remove "href" with Jquery?

Your title question and your example are completely different. I'll start by answering the title question:

$("a").removeAttr("href");

And as far as not requiring an href, the generally accepted way of doing this is:

<a href"#" onclick="doWork(); return false;">link</a>

The return false is necessary so that the href doesn't actually go anywhere.

How do I force git to use LF instead of CR+LF under windows?

core.autocrlf=input is the right setting for what you want, but you might have to do a git update-index --refresh and/or a git reset --hard for the change to take effect.

With core.autocrlf set to input, git will not apply newline-conversion on check-out (so if you have LF in the repo, you'll get LF), but it will make sure that in case you mess up and introduce some CRLFs in the working copy somehow, they won't make their way into the repo.

Keyboard shortcut to paste clipboard content into command prompt window (Win XP)

Not really programming related, but I found this on Google, there is not a direct keyboard shortcut, but makes it a little quicker.

To enable or disable QuickEdit mode:

  1. Open the MS-DOS program, or the command prompt.
  2. Right-click the title bar and press Properties.
  3. Select the Options tab.
  4. Check or un-check the QuickEdit Mode box.
  5. Press OK.

or you may have to clean (completely remove it) and reinstall MySQL.

How to detect a USB drive has been plugged in?

It is easy to check for removable devices. However, there's no guarantee that it is a USB device:

var drives = DriveInfo.GetDrives()

This will return a list of all removable devices that are currently accessible. More information:

Parse String to Date with Different Format in Java

Take a look at SimpleDateFormat. The code goes something like this:

SimpleDateFormat fromUser = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
SimpleDateFormat myFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");

try {

    String reformattedStr = myFormat.format(fromUser.parse(inputString));
} catch (ParseException e) {

how to use math.pi in java

Here is usage of Math.PI to find circumference of circle and Area First we take Radius as a string in Message Box and convert it into integer

public class circle {

Set the layout weight of a TextView programmatically

In the earlier answers weight is passed to the constructor of a new SomeLayoutType.LayoutParams object. Still in many cases it's more convenient to use existing objects - it helps to avoid dealing with parameters we are not interested in.

An example:

// Get our View (TextView or anything) object:
View v = findViewById(R.id.our_view);

// Get params:
LinearLayout.LayoutParams loparams = (LinearLayout.LayoutParams) v.getLayoutParams();

// Set only target params:
loparams.height = 0;
loparams.weight = 1;
v.setLayoutParams(loparams);

How to declare a global variable in React?

Maybe it's using a sledge-hammer to crack a nut, but using environment variables (with Dotenv https://www.npmjs.com/package/dotenv) you can also provide values throughout your React app. And that without any overhead code where they are used.

I came here because I found that some of the variables defined in my env files where static throughout the different envs, so I searched for a way to move them out of the env files. But honestly I don't like any of the alternatives I found here. I don't want to set up and use a context everytime I need those values.

I am not experienced when it comes to environments, so please, if there is a downside to this approach, let me know.

Subdomain on different host

You just need to add an "A" record in the DNS manager on Godaddy. In that "A" record put your IP from dreamhost.

I know this works since I'm doing the very same thing.

Automated testing for REST Api

I have used TestNG and Apache HTTP classes to build my own REST API test framework, I developed this concept after working in Selenium for two years.

Everything is same, except you should use Apache HTTP classes instead of Selenium classes.

give a try, its really cute and good, you've all the power to customize your test framework to your fullest possibilities.

Check if current directory is a Git repository

Why not using exit codes? If a git repository exists in the current directory, then git branch and git tag commands return exit code of 0; otherwise, a non-zero exit code will be returned. This way, you can determine if a git repository exist or not. Simply, you can run:

git tag > /dev/null 2>&1 && [ $? -eq 0 ]

Advantage: Flexibe. It works for both bare and non-bare repositories, and in sh, zsh and bash.

Explanation

  1. git tag: Getting tags of the repository to determine if exists or not.
  2. > /dev/null 2>&1: Preventing from printing anything, including normal and error outputs.
  3. [ $? -eq 0 ]: Check if the previous command returned with exit code 0 or not. As you may know, every non-zero exit means something bad happened. $? gets the exit code of the previous command, and [, -eq and ] perform the comparison.

As an example, you can create a file named check-git-repo with the following contents, make it executable and run it:

#!/bin/sh

if git tag > /dev/null 2>&1 && [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
    echo "Repository exists!";
else
    echo "No repository here.";

Test credit card numbers for use with PayPal sandbox

A bit late in the game but just in case it helps anyone.

If you are testing using the Sandbox and on the payment page you want to test payments NOT using a PayPal account but using the "Pay with Debit or Credit Card option" (i.e. when a regular Joe/Jane, NOT PayPal users, want to buy your stuff) and want to save yourself some time: just go to a site like http://www.getcreditcardnumbers.com/ and get numbers from there. You can use any Expiry date (in the future) and any numeric CCV (123 works).

The "test credit card numbers" in the PayPal documentation are just another brick in their infuriating wall of convoluted stuff.

I got the url above from PayPal's tech support.

Tested using a simple Hosted button and IPN. Good luck.

Using --add-host or extra_hosts with docker-compose

https://docs.docker.com/compose/compose-file/#extra_hosts

extra_hosts - Add hostname mappings. Uses the same values as the docker client --add-host parameter.

extra_hosts:
 - "somehost:162.242.195.82"
 - "otherhost:50.31.209.229"

An entry with the ip address and hostname will be created in /etc/hosts > inside containers for this service, e.g:

162.242.195.82  somehost
50.31.209.229   otherhost

What exactly is LLVM?

According to 'Getting Started With LLVM Core Libraries' book (c):

In fact, the name LLVM might refer to any of the following:

  • The LLVM project/infrastructure: This is an umbrella for several projects that, together, form a complete compiler: frontends, backends, optimizers, assemblers, linkers, libc++, compiler-rt, and a JIT engine. The word "LLVM" has this meaning, for example, in the following sentence: "LLVM is comprised of several projects".

  • An LLVM-based compiler: This is a compiler built partially or completely with the LLVM infrastructure. For example, a compiler might use LLVM for the frontend and backend but use GCC and GNU system libraries to perform the final link. LLVM has this meaning in the following sentence, for example: "I used LLVM to compile C programs to a MIPS platform".

  • LLVM libraries: This is the reusable code portion of the LLVM infrastructure. For example, LLVM has this meaning in the sentence: "My project uses LLVM to generate code through its Just-in-Time compilation framework".

  • LLVM core: The optimizations that happen at the intermediate language level and the backend algorithms form the LLVM core where the project started. LLVM has this meaning in the following sentence: "LLVM and Clang are two different projects".

  • The LLVM IR: This is the LLVM compiler intermediate representation. LLVM has this meaning when used in sentences such as "I built a frontend that translates my own language to LLVM".

process.waitFor() never returns

Just what is an IntPtr exactly?

What is a Pointer?

In all languages, a pointer is a type of variable that stores a memory address, and you can either ask them to tell you the address they are pointing at or the value at the address they are pointing at.

A pointer can be thought of as a sort-of book mark. Except, instead of being used to jump quickly to a page in a book, a pointer is used to keep track of or map blocks of memory.

Imagine your program's memory precisely like one big array of 65535 bytes.

Pointers point obediently

Pointers remember one memory address each, and therefore they each point to a single address in memory.

As a group, pointers remember and recall memory addresses, obeying your every command ad nauseum.

You are their king.

Pointers in C#

Specifically in C#, a pointer is an integer variable that stores a memory address between 0 and 65534.

Also specific to C#, pointers are of type int and therefore signed.

You can't use negatively numbered addresses though, neither can you access an address above 65534. Any attempt to do so will throw a System.AccessViolationException.

A pointer called MyPointer is declared like so:

int *MyPointer;

A pointer in C# is an int, but memory addresses in C# begin at 0 and extend as far as 65534.

Pointy things should be handled with extra special care

The word unsafe is intended to scare you, and for a very good reason: Pointers are pointy things, and pointy things e.g. swords, axes, pointers, etc. should be handled with extra special care.

Pointers give the programmer tight control of a system. Therefore mistakes made are likely to have more serious consequences.

In order to use pointers, unsafe code has to be enabled in your program's properties, and pointers have to be used exclusively in methods or blocks marked as unsafe.

Example of an unsafe block

unsafe
{
    // Place code carefully and responsibly here.

}

How to use Pointers

When variables or objects are declared or instantiated, they are stored in memory.

  • Declare a pointer by using the * symbol prefix.

int *MyPointer;

  • To get the address of a variable, you use the & symbol prefix.

MyPointer = &MyVariable;

Once an address is assigned to a pointer, the following applies:

  • Without * prefix to refer to the memory address being pointed to as an int.

MyPointer = &MyVariable; // Set MyPointer to point at MyVariable

  • With * prefix to get the value stored at the memory address being pointed to.

"MyPointer is pointing at " + *MyPointer;

Since a pointer is a variable that holds a memory address, this memory address can be stored in a pointer variable.

Example of pointers being used carefully and responsibly

    public unsafe void PointerTest()
    {
        int x = 100; // Create a variable named x

        int *MyPointer = &x; // Store the address of variable named x into the pointer named MyPointer

        textBox1.Text = ((int)MyPointer).ToString(); // Displays the memory address stored in pointer named MyPointer

        textBox2.Text = (*MyPointer).ToString(); // Displays the value of the variable named x via the pointer named MyPointer.

    }

Notice the type of the pointer is an int. This is because C# interprets memory addresses as integer numbers (int).

Why is it int instead of uint?

There is no good reason.

Why use pointers?

Pointers are a lot of fun. With so much of the computer being controlled by memory, pointers empower a programmer with more control of their program's memory.

Memory monitoring.

Use pointers to read blocks of memory and monitor how the values being pointed at change over time.

Change these values responsibly and keep track of how your changes affect your computer.

What does 'corrupted double-linked list' mean

I ran into this error in some code where someone was calling exit() in one thread about the same time as main() returned, so all the global/static constructors were being kicked off in two separate threads simultaneously.

This error also manifests as double free or corruption, or a segfault/sig11 inside exit() or inside malloc_consolidate, and likely others. The call stack for the malloc_consolidate crash may resemble:

#0  0xabcdabcd in malloc_consolidate () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1  0xabcdabcd in _int_free () from /lib/libc.so.6
#2  0xabcdabcd in operator delete (...)
#3  0xabcdabcd in operator delete[] (...)
(...)

I couldn't get it to exhibit this problem while running under valgrind.

How to set the value for Radio Buttons When edit?

just add 'checked="checked"' in the correct radio button that you would like it to be default on. As example you could use php quick if notation to add that in:

<input type="radio" name="sex" value="Male" size="17" <?php echo($isMale?'checked="checked"':''); ?>>Male
<input type="radio" name="sex" value="Female" size="17" <?php echo($isFemale?'checked="checked"':''); ?>>Female

in this example $isMale & $isFemale is boolean values that you assign based on the value from your database.

How to make a great R reproducible example

(Here's my advice from How to write a reproducible example. I've tried to make it short but sweet).

How to write a reproducible example

You are most likely to get good help with your R problem if you provide a reproducible example. A reproducible example allows someone else to recreate your problem by just copying and pasting R code.

You need to include four things to make your example reproducible: required packages, data, code, and a description of your R environment.

  • Packages should be loaded at the top of the script, so it's easy to see which ones the example needs.

  • The easiest way to include data in an email or Stack Overflow question is to use dput() to generate the R code to recreate it. For example, to recreate the mtcars dataset in R, I'd perform the following steps:

    1. Run dput(mtcars) in R
    2. Copy the output
    3. In my reproducible script, type mtcars <- then paste.
  • Spend a little bit of time ensuring that your code is easy for others to read:

    • Make sure you've used spaces and your variable names are concise, but informative

    • Use comments to indicate where your problem lies

    • Do your best to remove everything that is not related to the problem.
      The shorter your code is, the easier it is to understand.

  • Include the output of sessionInfo() in a comment in your code. This summarises your R environment and makes it easy to check if you're using an out-of-date package.

You can check you have actually made a reproducible example by starting up a fresh R session and pasting your script in.

Before putting all of your code in an email, consider putting it on Gist github. It will give your code nice syntax highlighting, and you don't have to worry about anything getting mangled by the email system.

How can I print out C++ map values?

Since C++17 you can use range-based for loops together with structured bindings for iterating over your map. This improves readability, as you reduce the amount of needed first and second members in your code:

std::map<std::string, std::pair<std::string, std::string>> myMap;
myMap["x"] = { "a", "b" };
myMap["y"] = { "c", "d" };

for (const auto &[k, v] : myMap)
    std::cout << "m[" << k << "] = (" << v.first << ", " << v.second << ") " << std::endl;

Output:

m[x] = (a, b)
m[y] = (c, d)

Algorithm to find all Latitude Longitude locations within a certain distance from a given Lat Lng location

As biziclop mentioned, some sort of metric space tree would probably be your best option. I have experience using kd-trees and quad trees to do these sorts of range queries and they're amazingly fast; they're also not that hard to write. I'd suggest looking into one of these structures, as they also let you answer other interesting questions like "what's the closest point in my data set to this other point?"

Accessing the web page's HTTP Headers in JavaScript

As has already been mentioned, if you control the server side then it should be possible to send the initial request headers back to the client in the initial response.

In Express, for example, the following works:

app.get('/somepage', (req, res) => { res.render('somepage.hbs', {headers: req.headers}); }) The headers are then available within the template, so could be hidden visually but included in the markup and read by clientside javascript.

How do you change the datatype of a column in SQL Server?

ALTER COLUMN ColumnName NVARCHAR(200) [NULL | NOT NULL]

EDIT As noted NULL/NOT NULL should have been specified, see Rob's answer as well.

Pass by Reference / Value in C++

I think much confusion is generated by not communicating what is meant by passed by reference. When some people say pass by reference they usually mean not the argument itself, but rather the object being referenced. Some other say that pass by reference means that the object can't be changed in the callee. Example:

struct Object {
    int i;
};

void sample(Object* o) { // 1
    o->i++;
}

void sample(Object const& o) { // 2
    // nothing useful here :)
}

void sample(Object & o) { // 3
    o.i++;
}

void sample1(Object o) { // 4
    o.i++;
}

int main() {
    Object obj = { 10 };
    Object const obj_c = { 10 };

    sample(&obj); // calls 1
    sample(obj) // calls 3
    sample(obj_c); // calls 2
    sample1(obj); // calls 4
}

Some people would claim that 1 and 3 are pass by reference, while 2 would be pass by value. Another group of people say all but the last is pass by reference, because the object itself is not copied.

I would like to draw a definition of that here what i claim to be pass by reference. A general overview over it can be found here: Difference between pass by reference and pass by value. The first and last are pass by value, and the middle two are pass by reference:

    sample(&obj);
       // yields a `Object*`. Passes a *pointer* to the object by value.
       // The caller can change the pointer (the parameter), but that
       // won't change the temporary pointer created on the call side (the argument).

    sample(obj)
       // passes the object by *reference*. It denotes the object itself. The callee
       // has got a reference parameter.

    sample(obj_c);
       // also passes *by reference*. the reference parameter references the
       // same object like the argument expression.

    sample1(obj);
       // pass by value. The parameter object denotes a different object than the
       // one passed in.

I vote for the following definition:

An argument (1.3.1) is passed by reference if and only if the corresponding parameter of the function that's called has reference type and the reference parameter binds directly to the argument expression (8.5.3/4). In all other cases, we have to do with pass by value.

That means that the following is pass by value:

void f1(Object const& o);
f1(Object()); // 1

void f2(int const& i);
f2(42); // 2

void f3(Object o);
f3(Object());     // 3
Object o1; f3(o1); // 4

void f4(Object *o);
Object o1; f4(&o1); // 5

1 is pass by value, because it's not directly bound. The implementation may copy the temporary and then bind that temporary to the reference. 2 is pass by value, because the implementation initializes a temporary of the literal and then binds to the reference. 3 is pass by value, because the parameter has not reference type. 4 is pass by value for the same reason. 5 is pass by value because the parameter has not got reference type. The following cases are pass by reference (by the rules of 8.5.3/4 and others):

void f1(Object *& op);
Object a; Object *op1 = &a; f1(op1); // 1

void f2(Object const& op);
Object b; f2(b); // 2

struct A { };
struct B { operator A&() { static A a; return a; } };
void f3(A &);
B b; f3(b); // passes the static a by reference

What is the role of the package-lock.json?

package-lock.json is written to when a numerical value in a property such as the "version" property, or a dependency property is changed in package.json.

If these numerical values in package.json and package-lock.json match, package-lock.json is read from.

If these numerical values in package.json and package-lock.json do not match, package-lock.json is written to with those new values, and new modifiers such as the caret and tilde if they are present. But it is the numeral that is triggering the change to package-lock.json.

To see what I mean, do the following. Using package.json without package-lock.json, run npm install with:

{
  "name": "test",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  ...
  "devDependencies": {
    "sinon": "7.2.2"
  }
}

package-lock.json will now have:

"sinon": {
  "version": "7.2.2",

Now copy/paste both files to a new directory. Change package.json to (only adding caret):

{
  "name": "test",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  ...
  "devDependencies": {
    "sinon": "^7.2.2"
  }
}

run npm install. If there were no package-lock.json file, [email protected] would be installed. npm install is reading from package-lock.json and installing 7.2.2.

Now change package.json to:

{
  "name": "test",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  ...
  "devDependencies": {
    "sinon": "^7.3.0"
  }
}

run npm install. package-lock.json has been written to, and will now show:

"sinon": {
  "version": "^7.3.0",

Or use reverse iterator to print element in reverse order

Show whitespace characters in Visual Studio Code

*** Update August 2020 Release *** see https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/pull/104310

"editor.renderWhitespace": "trailing" // option being added

Add a new option ('trailing') to editor.renderWhitespace that renders only
trailing whitespace (including lines with only whitespace).

*** Update February 2020 Release *** see https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/90386

In v1.43 the default value will be changed to selection from none as it was in v1.42.

"editor.renderWhitespace": "selection"  // default in v1.43

Update for v1.37: adding the option to render whitespace within selected text only. See v1.37 release notes, render whitespace.

The editor.renderWhitespace setting now supports a selection option. With this option set, whitespace will be shown only on selected text:

"editor.renderWhitespace": "selection"

and

"workbench.colorCustomizations": {
  "editorWhitespace.foreground": "#fbff00"
}

Showing all session data at once?

For print session data you do not need to use print_r() function every time .

If you use it then it will be non-readable format.Data will be looks very dirty.

But if you use my function all you have to do is to use p()-Funtion and pass data into it. //create new file into application/cms_helper.php and load helper cms into //autoload or on controller

/*Copy Code for p function from here and paste into cms_helper.php in application/helpers folder */

   //@parram $data-array,$d-if true then die by default it is false
   //@author Your name

    function p($data,$d = false){

          echo "<pre>";
             print_r($data);
          echo "</pre>";

        if($d == TRUE){
             die();
          }
      }

Just remember to load cms_helper into your project or controller using $this->load->helper('cms'); use bellow code into your controller or model it will works just GREAT.

 p($this->session->all_userdata()); // it will apply pre to your sesison data and other array as well

By using float you are asking the browser to arrange your controls automatically. It responds by wrapping when the controls don't fit the width for their specified float arrangement. float:left, float:right or clear:left,clear:right,clear:both.

So if you want to force a bunch of float:left items to float uniformly into one left column then you need to make the browser decide to wrap/unwrap them at the same width. Because you don't want to do any scripting you can wrap all of the controls you want to float together in a single div. You would want to add a new wrapping div with a class like:

.LeftImages{
    float:left;
}

html

<div class="LeftImages">
  <img...>
  <img...>
</div>

This div will automatically adjust to the width of the largest image and all the images will be floated left with the div all the time (no wrapping).

If you still want them to wrap you can give the div a width like width:30% and each of the images the float:left; style. Rather than adjust to the largest image it will vary in size and allow the contained images to wrap.

How to create EditText with rounded corners?

Try this one,

  1. Create rounded_edittext.xml file in your Drawable

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
        android:shape="rectangle" android:padding="15dp">

        <solid android:color="#FFFFFF" />
        <corners
            android:bottomRightRadius="0dp"
            android:bottomLeftRadius="0dp"
            android:topLeftRadius="0dp"
            android:topRightRadius="0dp" />
        <stroke android:width="1dip" android:color="#f06060" />
    </shape>

  2. Apply background for your EditText in xml file

    <EditText
        android:id="@+id/edit_expiry_date"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:padding="10dip"
        android:background="@drawable/rounded_edittext"
        android:hint="@string/shop_name"
        android:inputType="text" />

  3. You will get output like this

Uncompress tar.gz file

Try this:

tar -zxvf file.tar.gz

How to convert a list into data table

Just add this function and call it, it will convert List to DataTable.

public static DataTable ToDataTable<T>(List<T> items)
{
        DataTable dataTable = new DataTable(typeof(T).Name);

        //Get all the properties
        PropertyInfo[] Props = typeof(T).GetProperties(BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance);
        foreach (PropertyInfo prop in Props)
        {
            //Defining type of data column gives proper data table
            var type = (prop.PropertyType.IsGenericType && prop.PropertyType.GetGenericTypeDefinition() == typeof(Nullable<>) ? Nullable.GetUnderlyingType(prop.PropertyType) : prop.PropertyType);
            //Setting column names as Property names
            dataTable.Columns.Add(prop.Name, type);
        }
        foreach (T item in items)
        {
           var values = new object[Props.Length];
           for (int i = 0; i < Props.Length; i++)
           {
                //inserting property values to datatable rows
                values[i] = Props[i].GetValue(item, null);
           }
           dataTable.Rows.Add(values);
      }
      //put a breakpoint here and check datatable
      return dataTable;
}

Incomplete type is not allowed: stringstream

An incomplete type error is when the compiler encounters the use of an identifier that it knows is a type, for instance because it has seen a forward-declaration of it (e.g. class stringstream;), but it hasn't seen a full definition for it (class stringstream { ... };).

This could happen for a type that you haven't used in your own code but is only present through included header files -- when you've included header files that use the type, but not the header file where the type is defined. It's unusual for a header to not itself include all the headers it needs, but not impossible.

For things from the standard library, such as the stringstream class, use the language standard or other reference documentation for the class or the individual functions (e.g. Unix man pages, MSDN library, etc.) to figure out what you need to #include to use it and what namespace to find it in if any. You may need to search for pages where the class name appears (e.g. man -k stringstream).

How to initialize a List<T> to a given size (as opposed to capacity)?

A notice about IList: MSDN IList Remarks: "IList implementations fall into three categories: read-only, fixed-size, and variable-size. (...). For the generic version of this interface, see System.Collections.Generic.IList<T>."

IList<T> does NOT inherits from IList (but List<T> does implement both IList<T> and IList), but is always variable-size. Since .NET 4.5, we have also IReadOnlyList<T> but AFAIK, there is no fixed-size generic List which would be what you are looking for.

Why is C so fast, and why aren't other languages as fast or faster?

1) As others have said, C does less for you. No initializing variables, no array bounds checking, no memory management, etc. Those features in other languages cost memory and CPU cycles that C doesn't spend.

2) Answers saying that C is less abstracted and therefore faster are only half correct I think. Technically speaking, if you had a "sufficiently advanced compiler" for language X, then language X could approach or equal the speed of C. The difference with C is that since it maps so obviously (if you've taken an architecture course) and directly to assembly language that even a naive compiler can do a decent job. For something like Python, you need a very advanced compiler to predict the probable types of objects and generate machine code on the fly -- C's semantics are simple enough that a simple compiler can do well.

ImportError: No module named matplotlib.pyplot

If you are using Python 2, just run

sudo apt-get install python-matplotlib

The best way to get matplotlib is :

pip install matplotlib

cause the previous way may give you a old version of matplotlib

YouTube iframe API: how do I control an iframe player that's already in the HTML?

Thank you Rob W for your answer.

I have been using this within a Cordova application to avoid having to load the API and so that I can easily control iframes which are loaded dynamically.

I always wanted the ability to be able to extract information from the iframe, such as the state (getPlayerState) and the time (getCurrentTime).

Rob W helped highlight how the API works using postMessage, but of course this only sends information in one direction, from our web page into the iframe. Accessing the getters requires us to listen for messages posted back to us from the iframe.

It took me some time to figure out how to tweak Rob W's answer to activate and listen to the messages returned by the iframe. I basically searched through the source code within the YouTube iframe until I found the code responsible for sending and receiving messages.

The key was changing the 'event' to 'listening', this basically gave access to all the methods which were designed to return values.

Below is my solution, please note that I have switched to 'listening' only when getters are requested, you can tweak the condition to include extra methods.

Note further that you can view all messages sent from the iframe by adding a console.log(e) to the window.onmessage. You will notice that once listening is activated you will receive constant updates which include the current time of the video. Calling getters such as getPlayerState will activate these constant updates but will only send a message involving the video state when the state has changed.

function callPlayer(iframe, func, args) {
    iframe=document.getElementById(iframe);
    var event = "command";
    if(func.indexOf('get')>-1){
        event = "listening";
    }

    if ( iframe&&iframe.src.indexOf('youtube.com/embed') !== -1) {
      iframe.contentWindow.postMessage( JSON.stringify({
          'event': event,
          'func': func,
          'args': args || []
      }), '*');
    }
}
window.onmessage = function(e){
    var data = JSON.parse(e.data);
    data = data.info;
    if(data.currentTime){
        console.log("The current time is "+data.currentTime);
    }
    if(data.playerState){
        console.log("The player state is "+data.playerState);
    }
}

Android turn On/Off WiFi HotSpot programmatically

Your best bet will be looking at the WifiManager class. Specifically the setWifiEnabled(bool) function.

See the documentation at: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/WifiManager.html#setWifiEnabled(boolean)

A tutorial on how to use it (including what permissions you need) can be found here: http://www.tutorialforandroid.com/2009/10/turn-off-turn-on-wifi-in-android-using.html

Session variables not working php

How to create a zip file in Java

Look at this example:

StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
sb.append("Test String");

File f = new File("d:\\test.zip");
ZipOutputStream out = new ZipOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(f));
ZipEntry e = new ZipEntry("mytext.txt");
out.putNextEntry(e);

byte[] data = sb.toString().getBytes();
out.write(data, 0, data.length);
out.closeEntry();

out.close();

This will create a zip in the root of D: named test.zip which will contain one single file called mytext.txt. Of course you can add more zip entries and also specify a subdirectory like this:

ZipEntry e = new ZipEntry("folderName/mytext.txt");

No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource - Resteasy

Seems your resource POSTmethod won't get hit as @peeskillet mention. Most probably your ~POST~ request won't work, because it may not be a simple request. The only simple requests are GET, HEAD or POST and request headers are simple(The only simple headers are Accept, Accept-Language, Content-Language, Content-Type= application/x-www-form-urlencoded, multipart/form-data, text/plain).

Since in you already add Access-Control-Allow-Origin headers to your Response, you can add new OPTIONS method to your resource class.

    @OPTIONS
@Path("{path : .*}")
public Response options() {
    return Response.ok("")
            .header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", "*")
            .header("Access-Control-Allow-Headers", "origin, content-type, accept, authorization")
            .header("Access-Control-Allow-Methods", "GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, OPTIONS, HEAD")
            .header("Access-Control-Max-Age", "2000")
            .build();
}

How to install Android SDK Build Tools on the command line?

If you have sdkmanager installed (I'm using MAC)

run sdkmanager --list to list available packages.

If you want to install build tools, copy the preferred version from the list of packages available.

To install the preferred version run

sdkmanager "build-tools;27.0.3"

What's the strangest corner case you've seen in C# or .NET?

Consider this weird case:

public interface MyInterface {
  void Method();
}
public class Base {
  public void Method() { }
}
public class Derived : Base, MyInterface { }

If Base and Derived are declared in the same assembly, the compiler will make Base::Method virtual and sealed (in the CIL), even though Base doesn't implement the interface.

If Base and Derived are in different assemblies, when compiling the Derived assembly, the compiler won't change the other assembly, so it will introduce a member in Derived that will be an explicit implementation for MyInterface::Method that will just delegate the call to Base::Method.

The compiler has to do this in order to support polymorphic dispatch with regards to the interface, i.e. it has to make that method virtual.
