What are the ascii values of up down left right?

Really the answer to this question depends on what operating system and programming language you are using. There is no "ASCII code" per se. The operating system detects you hit an arrow key and triggers an event that programs can capture. For example, on modern Windows machines, you would get a WM_KEYUP or WM_KEYDOWN event. It passes a 16-bit value usually to determine which key was pushed.

Completely uninstall PostgreSQL 9.0.4 from Mac OSX Lion?

homebrew Installer

Assuming you installed PostgreSQL with homebrew as referenced in check status of postgresql server Mac OS X and how to start postgresql server on mac os x: you can use the brew uninstall postgresql command.

EnterpriseDB Installer

If you used the EnterpriseDB installer then see the other answer in this thread.

The EnterpriseDB installer is what you get if you follow "download" links from the main Postgres web site. The Postgres team releases only source code, so the EnterpriseDB.com company builds installers as a courtesy to the community.

Postgres.app

You may have also used Postgres.app.

This double-clickable Mac app contains the Postgres engine.

How to get UTC time in Python?

you could use datetime library to get UTC time even local time.

import datetime

utc_time = datetime.datetime.utcnow()
print(utc_time.strftime('%Y%m%d %H%M%S'))

Escaping single quotes in JavaScript string for JavaScript evaluation

I agree that this var formattedString = string.replace(/'/g, "\\'"); works very well, but since I used this part of code in PHP with the framework Prado (you can register the js script in a PHP class) I needed this sample working inside double quotes.

The solution that worked for me is that you need to put three \ and escape the double quotes. "var string = \"l'avancement\"; var formattedString = string.replace(/'/g, \"\\\'\");"

I answer that question since I had trouble finding that three \ was the work around.

What Process is using all of my disk IO

For KDE Users you can use 'ctrl-esc' top call up a system actrivity monitor and there is I/O activities charts with process id and name.

I don't have permissions to upload image, due to 'new user status' but you can check out the image below. It has a column for IO read and write.

View array in Visual Studio debugger?

I use the ArrayDebugView add-in for Visual Studio (http://arraydebugview.sourceforge.net/).

It seems to be a long dead project (but one I'm looking at continuing myself) but the add-in still works beautifully for me in VS2010 for both C++ and C#.

It has a few quirks (tab order, modal dialog, no close button) but the ability to plot the contents of an array in a graph more than make up for it.

Edit July 2014: I have finally built a new Visual Studio extension to replace ArrayebugView's functionality. It is available on the VIsual Studio Gallery, search for ArrayPlotter or go to http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/2fde2c3c-5b83-4d2a-a71e-5fdd83ce6b96?SRC=Home

How to fix "set SameSite cookie to none" warning?

If you are experiencing the OP's problem where your cookies have been set using JavaScript - for example:

document.cookie = "my_cookie_name=my_cookie_value; expires=Thu, 11 Jun 2070 11:11:11 UTC; path=/";

you could instead use:

document.cookie = "my_cookie_name=my_cookie_value; expires=Thu, 11 Jun 2070 11:11:11 UTC; path=/; SameSite=None; Secure";

It worked for me. More info here.

React setState not updating state

setState() is usually asynchronous, which means that at the time you console.log the state, it's not updated yet. Try putting the log in the callback of the setState() method. It is executed after the state change is complete:

this.setState({ dealersOverallTotal: total }, () => {
  console.log(this.state.dealersOverallTotal, 'dealersOverallTotal1');
});

How to remove " from my Json in javascript?

Unknown lifecycle phase "mvn". You must specify a valid lifecycle phase or a goal in the format <plugin-prefix>:<goal> or <plugin-group-id>

You have to specify any one of the above phase to resolve the above error. In most of the situations, this would have occurred due to running the build from the eclipse environment.

instead of mvn clean package or mvn package you can try only package its work fine for me

Creation timestamp and last update timestamp with Hibernate and MySQL

Thanks everyone who helped. After doing some research myself (I'm the guy who asked the question), here is what I found to make sense most:

  • Database column type: the timezone-agnostic number of milliseconds since 1970 represented as decimal(20) because 2^64 has 20 digits and disk space is cheap; let's be straightforward. Also, I will use neither DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, nor triggers. I want no magic in the DB.

  • Java field type: long. The Unix timestamp is well supported across various libs, long has no Y2038 problems, timestamp arithmetic is fast and easy (mainly operator < and operator +, assuming no days/months/years are involved in the calculations). And, most importantly, both primitive longs and java.lang.Longs are immutable—effectively passed by value—unlike java.util.Dates; I'd be really pissed off to find something like foo.getLastUpdate().setTime(System.currentTimeMillis()) when debugging somebody else's code.

  • The ORM framework should be responsible for filling in the data automatically.

  • I haven't tested this yet, but only looking at the docs I assume that @Temporal will do the job; not sure about whether I might use @Version for this purpose. @PrePersist and @PreUpdate are good alternatives to control that manually. Adding that to the layer supertype (common base class) for all entities, is a cute idea provided that you really want timestamping for all of your entities.

Checking Date format from a string in C#

Try this

DateTime dDate;
dDate = DateTime.TryParse(inputString);
String.Format("{0:d/MM/yyyy}", dDate);

Java - escape string to prevent SQL injection

Using a regular expression to remove text which could cause a SQL injection sounds like the SQL statement is being sent to the database via a Statement rather than a PreparedStatement.

One of the easiest ways to prevent an SQL injection in the first place is to use a PreparedStatement, which accepts data to substitute into a SQL statement using placeholders, which does not rely on string concatenations to create an SQL statement to send to the database.

For more information, Using Prepared Statements from The Java Tutorials would be a good place to start.

What does Maven do, in theory and in practice? When is it worth to use it?

Maven is a build tool. Along with Ant or Gradle are Javas tools for building.
If you are a newbie in Java though just build using your IDE since Maven has a steep learning curve.

Where is the application.properties file in a Spring Boot project?

You will need to add the application.properties file in your classpath.

If you are using Maven or Gradle, you can just put the file under src/main/resources.
If you are not using Maven or any other build tools, put that under your src folder and you should be fine.

Then you can just add an entry server.port = xxxx in the properties file.

How to send email from localhost WAMP Server to send email Gmail Hotmail or so forth?

a) Open the "php.ini". For XAMPP,it is located in C:\XAMPP\php\php.ini. Find out if you are using WAMP or LAMP server. Note : Make a backup of php.ini file

b) Search [mail function] in the php.ini file.

You can find like below.
[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
; http://php.net/smtp
SMTP = localhost
; http://php.net/smtp-port
smtp_port = 25

; For Win32 only.
; http://php.net/sendmail-from
;sendmail_from = postmaster@localhost

Change the localhost to the smtp server name of your ISP. No need to change the smtp_port. Leave it as 25. Change sendmail_from from postmaster@localhost to your domain email address which will be used as from address..

So for me, it will become like this.
[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = smtp.planetghost.com
smtp_port = 25
; For Win32 only.
sendmail_from = [email protected]
auth_username = [email protected]
auth_password = example_password

c) Restart the XAMPP or WAMP(apache server) so that changes will start working.

d) Now try to send the mail using the mail() function ,

mail("[email protected]","Success","Great, Localhost Mail works");

Another way

Gmail servers use SMTP Authentication under SSL. I think that there is no way to use the mail() function under that circumstances, so you might want to check these alternatives:

  1. PEAR: Mail
  2. phpMailer

They both support SMTP auth under SSL.

Batch files : How to leave the console window open

You can just put a pause command in the last line of your batch file:

@echo off
echo Hey, I'm just doing some work for you.
pause

Will give you something like this as output:

Hey, I'm just doing some work for you.

Press any key to continue ...

Note: Using the @echo prevents to output the command before the output is printed.

How do I find the maximum of 2 numbers?

max(number_one, number_two)

How do I perform a Perl substitution on a string while keeping the original?

The one-liner solution is more useful as a shibboleth than good code; good Perl coders will know it and understand it, but it's much less transparent and readable than the two-line copy-and-modify couplet you're starting with.

In other words, a good way to do this is the way you're already doing it. Unnecessary concision at the cost of readability isn't a win.

Get index of a row of a pandas dataframe as an integer

The nature of wanting to include the row where A == 5 and all rows upto but not including the row where A == 8 means we will end up using iloc (loc includes both ends of slice).

In order to get the index labels we use idxmax. This will return the first position of the maximum value. I run this on a boolean series where A == 5 (then when A == 8) which returns the index value of when A == 5 first happens (same thing for A == 8).

Then I use searchsorted to find the ordinal position of where the index label (that I found above) occurs. This is what I use in iloc.

i5, i8 = df.index.searchsorted([df.A.eq(5).idxmax(), df.A.eq(8).idxmax()])
df.iloc[i5:i8]

numpy

you can further enhance this by using the underlying numpy objects the analogous numpy functions. I wrapped it up into a handy function.

def find_between(df, col, v1, v2):
    vals = df[col].values
    mx1, mx2 = (vals == v1).argmax(), (vals == v2).argmax()
    idx = df.index.values
    i1, i2 = idx.searchsorted([mx1, mx2])
    return df.iloc[i1:i2]

find_between(df, 'A', 5, 8)

How do I add a newline using printf?

Stopword removal with NLTK

There is an in-built stopword list in NLTK made up of 2,400 stopwords for 11 languages (Porter et al), see http://nltk.org/book/ch02.html

>>> from nltk import word_tokenize
>>> from nltk.corpus import stopwords
>>> stop = set(stopwords.words('english'))
>>> sentence = "this is a foo bar sentence"
>>> print([i for i in sentence.lower().split() if i not in stop])
['foo', 'bar', 'sentence']
>>> [i for i in word_tokenize(sentence.lower()) if i not in stop]
['foo', 'bar', 'sentence']

I recommend looking at using tf-idf to remove stopwords, see Effects of Stemming on the term frequency?

Padding a table row

Option 1

You could also solve it by adding a transparent border to the row (tr), like this

HTML

<table>
    <tr>
         <td>1</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
         <td>2</td>
    </tr>
</table>

CSS

tr {
    border-top: 12px solid transparent;
    border-bottom: 12px solid transparent;
}

Works like a charm, although if you need regular borders, then this method will sadly not work.

Option 2

Since rows act as a way to group cells, the correct way to do this, would be to use

table {
    border-collapse: inherit;
    border-spacing: 0 10px;
}

How do you clear a slice in Go?

I was looking into this issue a bit for my own purposes; I had a slice of structs (including some pointers) and I wanted to make sure I got it right; ended up on this thread, and wanted to share my results.

To practice, I did a little go playground: https://play.golang.org/p/9i4gPx3lnY

which evals to this:

package main

import "fmt"

type Blah struct {
    babyKitten int
    kittenSays *string
}

func main() {
    meow := "meow"
    Blahs := []Blah{}
    fmt.Printf("Blahs: %v\n", Blahs)
    Blahs = append(Blahs, Blah{1, &meow})
    fmt.Printf("Blahs: %v\n", Blahs)
    Blahs = append(Blahs, Blah{2, &meow})
    fmt.Printf("Blahs: %v\n", Blahs)
    //fmt.Printf("kittenSays: %v\n", *Blahs[0].kittenSays)
    Blahs = nil
    meow2 := "nyan"
    fmt.Printf("Blahs: %v\n", Blahs)
    Blahs = append(Blahs, Blah{1, &meow2})
    fmt.Printf("Blahs: %v\n", Blahs)
    fmt.Printf("kittenSays: %v\n", *Blahs[0].kittenSays)
}

Running that code as-is will show the same memory address for both "meow" and "meow2" variables as being the same:

Blahs: []
Blahs: [{1 0x1030e0c0}]
Blahs: [{1 0x1030e0c0} {2 0x1030e0c0}]
Blahs: []
Blahs: [{1 0x1030e0f0}]
kittenSays: nyan

which I think confirms that the struct is garbage collected. Oddly enough, uncommenting the commented print line, will yield different memory addresses for the meows:

Blahs: []
Blahs: [{1 0x1030e0c0}]
Blahs: [{1 0x1030e0c0} {2 0x1030e0c0}]
kittenSays: meow
Blahs: []
Blahs: [{1 0x1030e0f8}]
kittenSays: nyan

I think this may be due to the print being deferred in some way (?), but interesting illustration of some memory mgmt behavior, and one more vote for:

[]MyStruct = nil

Removing "http://" from a string

preg_replace('/^[^:\/?]+:\/\//','',$url);

some results:

input: http://php.net/preg_replace output: php.net/preg_replace  input: https://www.php.net/preg_replace output: www.php.net/preg_replace  input: ftp://www.php.net/preg_replace output: www.php.net/preg_replace  input: https://php.net/preg_replace?url=http://whatever.com output: php.net/preg_replace?url=http://whatever.com  input: php.net/preg_replace?url=http://whatever.com output: php.net/preg_replace?url=http://whatever.com  input: php.net?site=http://whatever.com output: php.net?site=http://whatever.com

Importing CSV with line breaks in Excel 2007

Short Answer

Remove the newline/linefeed characters (\n with Notepad++). Excel will still recognise the carriage return character (\r) to separate records.

Long Answer

As mentioned newline characters are supported inside CSV fields but Excel doesn't always handle them gracefully. I faced a similar issue with a third party CSV that possibly had encoding issues but didn't improve with encoding changes.

What worked for me was removing all newline characters (\n). This has the effect of collapsing fields to a single record assuming that your records are separated by the combination of a carriage return and a newline (CR/LF). Excel will then properly import the file and recognise new records by the carriage return.

Obviously a cleaner solution is to first replace the real newlines (\r\n) with a temporary character combination, replacing the newlines (\n) with your seperating character of choice (e.g. comma in a semicolon file) and then replacing the temporary characters with proper newlines again.

expand/collapse table rows with JQuery

A JavaScript accordion does the trick.

This fiddle by W3Schools makes a simple task even more simple using nothing but javascript, which i partially reproduce below.

<head>
<style>
button.accordion {
    background-color: #eee;
    color: #444;
    font-size: 15px;
    cursor: pointer;
}

button.accordion.active, button.accordion:hover {
    background-color: #ddd;
}

div.panel {
    padding: 0 18px;
    display: none;
    background-color: white;
}

div.panel.show {
    display: block;
}
</style>
</head><body>
<script>
var acc = document.getElementsByClassName("accordion");
var i;

for (i = 0; i < acc.length; i++) {
    acc[i].onclick = function(){
    this.classList.toggle("active");
    this.nextElementSibling.classList.toggle("show");
  }
}
</script>
...
<button class="accordion">Section 1</button>
<div class="panel">
  <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet</p>
</div>
...
<button class="accordion">Table</button>
<div class="panel">
  <p><table name="detail_table">...</table></p>
</div>
...
<button class="accordion"><table name="button_table">...</table></button>
<div class="panel">
  <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet</p>
  <table name="detail_table">...</table>
  <img src=...></img>
</div>
...
</body></html>

if using php, don't forget to convert " to '. You can also use tables of data inside the button and it will still work.

How to display all methods of an object?

var methods = [];
for (var m in obj) {
    if (typeof obj[m] == "function") {
        methods.push(m);
    }
}
alert(methods.join(","));

This way, you will get all methods that you can call on obj. This includes the methods that it "inherits" from its prototype (like getMethods() in java). If you only want to see those methods defined directly by obj you can check with hasOwnProperty:

var methods = [];
for (var m in obj) {
    if (typeof obj[m] == "function" && obj.hasOwnProperty(m)) {
        methods.push(m);
    }
}
alert(methods.join(","));

Is there a list of screen resolutions for all Android based phones and tablets?

These are the sizes. Try to take a look in Supporting Mutiple Screens

320dp: a typical phone screen (240x320 ldpi, 320x480 mdpi, 480x800 hdpi, etc).
480dp: a tweener tablet like the Streak (480x800 mdpi).
600dp: a 7” tablet (600x1024 mdpi).
720dp: a 10” tablet (720x1280 mdpi, 800x1280 mdpi, etc).

I use this to make more than one layout:

res/layout/main_activity.xml # For handsets (smaller than 600dp available width)
res/layout-sw600dp/main_activity.xml   # For 7” tablets (600dp wide and bigger)
res/layout-sw720dp/main_activity.xml   # For 10” tablets (720dp wide and bigger)

Use of for_each on map elements

C++14 brings generic lambdas. Meaning we can use std::for_each very easily:

std::map<int, int> myMap{{1, 2}, {3, 4}, {5, 6}, {7, 8}};

std::for_each(myMap.begin(), myMap.end(), [](const auto &myMapPair) {
    std::cout << "first " << myMapPair.first << " second "
              << myMapPair.second << std::endl;
});

I think std::for_each is sometimes better suited than a simple range based for loop. For example when you only want to loop through a subset of a map.

How does @synchronized lock/unlock in Objective-C?

The Objective-C language level synchronization uses the mutex, just like NSLock does. Semantically there are some small technical differences, but it is basically correct to think of them as two separate interfaces implemented on top of a common (more primitive) entity.

In particular with a NSLock you have an explicit lock whereas with @synchronized you have an implicit lock associated with the object you are using to synchronize. The benefit of the language level locking is the compiler understands it so it can deal with scoping issues, but mechanically they behave basically the same.

You can think of @synchronized as a compiler rewrite:

- (NSString *)myString {
  @synchronized(self) {
    return [[myString retain] autorelease];
  }
}

is transformed into:

- (NSString *)myString {
  NSString *retval = nil;
  pthread_mutex_t *self_mutex = LOOK_UP_MUTEX(self);
  pthread_mutex_lock(self_mutex);
  retval = [[myString retain] autorelease];
  pthread_mutex_unlock(self_mutex);
  return retval;
}

That is not exactly correct because the actual transform is more complex and uses recursive locks, but it should get the point across.

How do I get rid of an element's offset using CSS?

This seems weird, but you can try setting vertical-align: top in the CSS for the inputs. That fixes it in IE8, at least.

what's data-reactid attribute in html?

data attributes are commonly used for a variety of interactions. Typically via javascript. They do not affect anything regarding site behavior and stand as a convenient method to pass data for whatever purpose needed. Here is an article that may clear things up:

http://ejohn.org/blog/html-5-data-attributes/

You can create a data attribute by prefixing data- to any standard attribute safe string (alphanumeric with no spaces or special characters). For example, data-id or in this case data-reactid

Unable to install Maven on Windows: "JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory"

After lot of failed tried attempts ,I found the solution

It was the ";" at end of JAVA_HOME which I always put at end of each new variable I set. So get rid of the ;.

JAVA_HOME set it in User Variable also (without the ";" ofcourse)

Quickly create a large file on a Linux system

truncate -s 10M output.file

will create a 10 M file instantaneously (M stands for 10241024 bytes, MB stands for 10001000 - same with K, KB, G, GB...)

EDIT: as many have pointed out, this will not physically allocate the file on your device. With this you could actually create an arbitrary large file, regardless of the available space on the device, as it creates a "sparse" file.

For e.g. notice no HDD space is consumed with this command:

### BEFORE
$ df -h | grep lvm
/dev/mapper/lvm--raid0-lvm0
                      7.2T  6.6T  232G  97% /export/lvm-raid0

$ truncate -s 500M 500MB.file

### AFTER
$ df -h | grep lvm
/dev/mapper/lvm--raid0-lvm0
                      7.2T  6.6T  232G  97% /export/lvm-raid0

So, when doing this, you will be deferring physical allocation until the file is accessed. If you're mapping this file to memory, you may not have the expected performance.

But this is still a useful command to know. For e.g. when benchmarking transfers using files, the specified size of the file will still get moved.

$ rsync -aHAxvP --numeric-ids --delete --info=progress2 \
       [email protected]:/export/lvm-raid0/500MB.file \
       /export/raid1/

How to check which PHP extensions have been enabled/disabled in Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS?

To check if this extensions are enabled or not, you can create a php file i.e. info.php and write the following code there:

<?php
echo "GD: ", extension_loaded('gd') ? 'OK' : 'MISSING', '<br>';
echo "XML: ", extension_loaded('xml') ? 'OK' : 'MISSING', '<br>';
echo "zip: ", extension_loaded('zip') ? 'OK' : 'MISSING', '<br>';
?>

That's it.

Query based on multiple where clauses in Firebase

I've written a personal library that allows you to order by multiple values, with all the ordering done on the server.

Meet Querybase!

Querybase takes in a Firebase Database Reference and an array of fields you wish to index on. When you create new records it will automatically handle the generation of keys that allow for multiple querying. The caveat is that it only supports straight equivalence (no less than or greater than).

const databaseRef = firebase.database().ref().child('people');
const querybaseRef = querybase.ref(databaseRef, ['name', 'age', 'location']);

// Automatically handles composite keys
querybaseRef.push({
  name: 'David',
  age: 27,
  location: 'SF'
});

// Find records by multiple fields
// returns a Firebase Database ref
const queriedDbRef = querybaseRef
 .where({
   name: 'David',
   age: 27
 });

// Listen for realtime updates
queriedDbRef.on('value', snap => console.log(snap));

How do I copy a range of formula values and paste them to a specific range in another sheet?

How about if you're copying each column in a sheet to different sheets? Example: row B of mysheet to row B of sheet1, row C of mysheet to row B of sheet 2...

java.io.FileNotFoundException: (Access is denied)

You cannot open and read a directory, use the isFile() and isDirectory() methods to distinguish between files and folders. You can get the contents of folders using the list() and listFiles() methods (for filenames and Files respectively) you can also specify a filter that selects a subset of files listed.

Removing leading zeroes from a field in a SQL statement

In case you want to remove the leading zeros from a string with a unknown size.

You may consider using the STUFF command.

Here is an example of how it would work.

SELECT ISNULL(STUFF(ColumnName
                   ,1
                   ,patindex('%[^0]%',ColumnName)-1
                   ,'')
             ,REPLACE(ColumnName,'0','')
             )

See in fiddler various scenarios it will cover

Checking if an object is a given type in Swift

Be warned about this:

var string = "Hello" as NSString
var obj1:AnyObject = string
var obj2:NSObject = string

print(obj1 is NSString)
print(obj2 is NSString)
print(obj1 is String)
print(obj2 is String)

All of the four last lines return true, this is because if you type

var r1:CGRect = CGRect()
print(r1 is String)

... it prints "false" of course, but a Warning says that the Cast from CGRect to String fails. So some type are bridged, ans the 'is' keyword calls an implicit cast.

You should better use one of these:

myObject.isKind(of: MyClass.self))
myObject.isMember(of: MyClass.self))

How to check if a number is between two values?

Where is body in a nodejs http.get response?

Just an improved version to nkron responce.

const httpGet = url => {
  return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
    http.get(url, res => {
      res.setEncoding('utf8');
      const body = [];
      res.on('data', chunk => body.push(chunk));
      res.on('end', () => resolve(body.join('')));
    }).on('error', reject);
  });
};

Appending chunks in an string[] is better for memory usage, the join(''), will allocate new memory only once.

How can I start an interactive console for Perl?

Not only did Matt Trout write an article about a REPL, he actually wrote one - Devel::REPL

I've used it a bit and it works fairly well, and it's under active development.

BTW, I have no idea why someone modded down the person who mentioned using "perl -e" from the console. This isn't really a REPL, true, but it's fantastically useful, and I use it all the time.

How to recursively find and list the latest modified files in a directory with subdirectories and times

This should actually do what the OP specifies:

One-liner in Bash:

$ for first_level in `find . -maxdepth 1 -type d`; do find $first_level -printf "%TY-%Tm-%Td %TH:%TM:%TS $first_level\n" | sort -n | tail -n1 ; done

which gives output such as:

2020-09-12 10:50:43.9881728000 .
2020-08-23 14:47:55.3828912000 ./.cache
2018-10-18 10:48:57.5483235000 ./.config
2019-09-20 16:46:38.0803415000 ./.emacs.d
2020-08-23 14:48:19.6171696000 ./.local
2020-08-23 14:24:17.9773605000 ./.nano

This lists each first-level directory with the human-readable timestamp of the latest file within those folders, even if it is in a subfolder, as requested in

"I need to make a list of all these directories that is constructed in a way such that every first-level directory is listed next to the date and time of the latest created/modified file within it."

How to use an array list in Java?

A List is an ordered Collection of elements. You can add them with the add method, and retrieve them with the get(int index) method. You can also iterate over a List, remove elements, etc. Here are some basic examples of using a List:

List<String> names = new ArrayList<String>(3); // 3 because we expect the list
    // to have 3 entries. If we didn't know how many entries we expected, we
    // could leave this empty or use a LinkedList instead
names.add("Alice");
names.add("Bob");
names.add("Charlie");
System.out.println(names.get(2)); // prints "Charlie"
System.out.println(names); // prints the whole list
for (String name: names) {
    System.out.println(name); // prints the names in turn.
}

No assembly found containing an OwinStartupAttribute Error

If deploying to Azure and you get this error. Simply delete all files on the site (backup any web.config, appsettings.json or whatver you do not want to loose) and deploy again. There are some left over dll files that should not be on the site, that makes the Azure portal think it needs to use OWIN.

How do I convert datetime to ISO 8601 in PHP

You can try this way:

$datetime = new DateTime('2010-12-30 23:21:46');

echo $datetime->format(DATE_ATOM);

Vertical line using XML drawable

Instead of a shape, you could try a View:

<View
    android:layout_width="1dp"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:background="#FF0000FF" />

I have only used this for horizontal lines, but I would think it would work for vertical lines as well.

Use:

<View
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="1dp"
    android:background="#FF0000FF" />

for a horizontal line.

Regex to match words of a certain length

Even, I was looking for the same regex but I wanted to include the all special character and blank spaces too. So here is the regex for that:

How to capture and save an image using custom camera in Android?

 showbookimage.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View v) {

                // create intent with ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE action
                Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
                /**
 Here REQUEST_IMAGE is the unique integer value you can pass it any integer
 **/
                // start camera activity
                startActivityForResult(intent, TAKE_PICTURE);
            }

            }

        );

How to open a link in new tab (chrome) using Selenium WebDriver?

The original poster is asking on how to open a link on a new tab. So this is how I have done it in C#.

        IWebDriver driver = new ChromeDriver();
        driver.Manage().Window.Maximize();
        driver.Navigate().GoToUrl("https://microsoft.com");
        IWebElement eventlink = driver.FindElement(By.Id("uhfLogo"));
        Actions action = new Actions(driver);
        action.KeyDown(Keys.Control).MoveToElement(eventlink).Click().Perform();

This actually performs a Control+Click on the selected element in order to open the link in a new tab.

Sum values in a column based on date

Following up on Niketya's answer, there's a good explanation of Pivot Tables here: http://peltiertech.com/WordPress/grouping-by-date-in-a-pivot-table/

For Excel 2007 you'd create the Pivot Table, make your Date column a Row Label, your Amount column a value. You'd then right click on one of the row labels (ie a date), right click and select Group. You'd then get the option to group by day, month, etc.

Personally that's the way I'd go.

If you prefer formulae, Smandoli's answer would get you most of the way there. To be able to use Sumif by day, you'd add a column with a formula like:

=DATE(YEAR(C1), MONTH(C1), DAY(C1))

where column C contains your datetimes.

You can then use this in your sumif.

QR Code encoding and decoding using zxing

Maybe worth looking at QRGen, which is built on top of ZXing and supports UTF-8 with this kind of syntax:

// if using special characters don't forget to supply the encoding
VCard johnSpecial = new VCard("Jöhn D?e")
                        .setAdress("ëåäö? Sträät 1, 1234 Döestüwn");
QRCode.from(johnSpecial).withCharset("UTF-8").file();

Compiler warning - suggest parentheses around assignment used as truth value

It's just a 'safety' warning. It is a relatively common idiom, but also a relatively common error when you meant to have == in there. You can make the warning go away by adding another set of parentheses:

while ((list = list->next))

python global name 'self' is not defined

In Python self is the conventional name given to the first argument of instance methods of classes, which is always the instance the method was called on:

class A(object):
  def f(self):
    print self

a = A()
a.f()

Will give you something like

<__main__.A object at 0x02A9ACF0>

How can I change a file's encoding with vim?

Just like your steps, setting fileencoding should work. However, I'd like to add one "set bomb" to help editor consider the file as UTF8.

$ vim file
:set bomb
:set fileencoding=utf-8
:wq

VBA general way for pulling data out of SAP

This all depends on what sort of access you have to your SAP system. An ABAP program that exports the data and/or an RFC that your macro can call to directly get the data or have SAP create the file is probably best.

However as a general rule people looking for this sort of answer are looking for an immediate solution that does not require their IT department to spend months customizing their SAP system.

In that case you probably want to use SAP GUI Scripting. SAP GUI scripting allows you to automate the Windows SAP GUI in much the same way as you automate Excel. In fact you can call the SAP GUI directly from an Excel macro. Read up more on it here. The SAP GUI has a macro recording tool much like Excel does. It records macros in VBScript which is nearly identical to Excel VBA and can usually be copied and pasted into an Excel macro directly.

Example Code

Here is a simple example based on a SAP system I have access to.

Public Sub SimpleSAPExport()
  Set SapGuiAuto = GetObject("SAPGUI") 'Get the SAP GUI Scripting object
  Set SAPApp = SapGuiAuto.GetScriptingEngine 'Get the currently running SAP GUI
  Set SAPCon = SAPApp.Children(0) 'Get the first system that is currently connected
  Set session = SAPCon.Children(0) 'Get the first session (window) on that connection

  'Start the transaction to view a table
  session.StartTransaction "SE16"

  'Select table T001
  session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtDATABROWSE-TABLENAME").Text = "T001"
  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[7]").Press

  'Set our selection criteria
  session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/txtMAX_SEL").text = "2"
  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[8]").press

  'Click the export to file button
  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[45]").press

  'Choose the export format
  session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/subSUBSCREEN_STEPLOOP:SAPLSPO5:0150/sub:SAPLSPO5:0150/radSPOPLI-SELFLAG[1,0]").select
  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press

  'Choose the export filename
  session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/ctxtDY_FILENAME").text = "test.txt"
  session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/ctxtDY_PATH").text = "C:\Temp\"

  'Export the file
  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
End Sub

Script Recording

To help find the names of elements such aswnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0] you can use script recording. Click the customize local layout button, it probably looks a bit like this: Customize Local Layout
Then find the Script Recording and Playback menu item.
Script Recording and Playback
Within that the More button allows you to see/change the file that the VB Script is recorded to. The output format is a bit messy, it records things like selecting text, clicking inside a text field, etc.

Edit: Early and Late binding

The provided script should work if copied directly into a VBA macro. It uses late binding, the line Set SapGuiAuto = GetObject("SAPGUI") defines the SapGuiAuto object.

If however you want to use early binding so that your VBA editor might show the properties and methods of the objects you are using, you need to add a reference to sapfewse.ocx in the SAP GUI installation folder.

How to permanently export a variable in Linux?

add the line to your .bashrc or .profile. The variables set in $HOME/.profile are active for the current user, the ones in /etc/profile are global. The .bashrc is pulled on each bash session start.

How to append new data onto a new line

import subprocess
subprocess.check_output('echo "' + YOURTEXT + '" >> hello.txt',shell=True)

How to create a thread?

The following ways work.

// The old way of using ParameterizedThreadStart. This requires a
// method which takes ONE object as the parameter so you need to
// encapsulate the parameters inside one object.
Thread t = new Thread(new ParameterizedThreadStart(StartupA));
t.Start(new MyThreadParams(path, port));

// You can also use an anonymous delegate to do this.
Thread t2 = new Thread(delegate()
{
    StartupB(port, path);
});
t2.Start();

// Or lambda expressions if you are using C# 3.0
Thread t3 = new Thread(() => StartupB(port, path));
t3.Start();

The Startup methods have following signature for these examples.

public void StartupA(object parameters);

public void StartupB(int port, string path);

Difference between _self, _top, and _parent in the anchor tag target attribute

While these answers are good, IMHO I don't think they fully address the question.

The target attribute in an anchor tag tells the browser the target of the destination of the anchor. They were initially created in order to manipulate and direct anchors to the frame system of document. This was well before CSS came to the aid of HTML developers.

While target="_self" is default by browser and the most common target is target="_blank" which opens the anchor in a new window(which has been redirected to tabs by browser settings usually). The "_parent", "_top" and framename tags are left a mystery to those that aren't familiar with the days of iframe site building as the trend.

target="_self" This opens an anchor in the same frame. What is confusing is that because we generally don't write in frames anymore (and the frame and frameset tags are obsolete in HTML5) people assume this a same window function. Instead if this anchor was nested in frames it would open in a sandbox mode of sorts, meaning only in that frame.

target="_parent" Will open the in the next level up of a frame if they were nested to inside one another

target="_top" This breaks outside of all the frames it is nested in and opens the link as top document in the browser window.

target="framename This was originally deprecated but brought back in HTML5. This will target the exact frame in question. While the name was the proper method that method has been replaced with using the id identifying tag.

<!--Example:-->

<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<iframe src="url1" name="A"><p> This my first iframe</p></iframe>
<iframe src="url2" name="B"><p> This my second iframe</p></iframe>
<iframe src="url3" name="C"><p> This my third iframe</p></iframe>

<a href="url4" target="B"></a>
</body>
</html>

What does 'useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy' do in the .NET 4 config?

Here's an explanation I wrote recently to help with the void of information on this attribute. http://www.marklio.com/marklio/PermaLink,guid,ecc34c3c-be44-4422-86b7-900900e451f9.aspx (Internet Archive Wayback Machine link)

To quote the most relevant bits:

[Installing .NET] v4 is “non-impactful”. It should not change the behavior of existing components when installed.

The useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy attribute basically lets you say, “I have some dependencies on the legacy shim APIs. Please make them work the way they used to with respect to the chosen runtime.”

Why don’t we make this the default behavior? You might argue that this behavior is more compatible, and makes porting code from previous versions much easier. If you’ll recall, this can’t be the default behavior because it would make installation of v4 impactful, which can break existing apps installed on your machine.

The full post explains this in more detail. At RTM, the MSDN docs on this should be better.

How to determine whether code is running in DEBUG / RELEASE build?

zitao xiong's answer is pretty close to what I use; I also include the file name (by stripping off the path of FILE).

#ifdef DEBUG
    #define NSLogDebug(format, ...) \
    NSLog(@"<%s:%d> %s, " format, \
    strrchr("/" __FILE__, '/') + 1, __LINE__, __PRETTY_FUNCTION__, ## __VA_ARGS__)
#else
    #define NSLogDebug(format, ...)
#endif

Check if PHP session has already started

if (version_compare(PHP_VERSION, "5.4.0") >= 0) {
    $sess = session_status();
    if ($sess == PHP_SESSION_NONE) {
        session_start();
    }
} else {
    if (!$_SESSION) {
        session_start();
    }
}

Actually, it is now too late to explain it here anyway as its been solved. This was a .inc file of one of my projects where you configure a menu for a restaurant by selecting a dish and remove/add or change the order. The server I was working at did not had the actual version so I made it more flexible. It's up to the authors wish to use and try it out.

How to check if a socket is connected/disconnected in C#?

As zendar wrote, it is nice to use the Socket.Poll and Socket.Available, but you need to take into consideration that the socket might not have been initialized in the first place. This is the last (I believe) piece of information and it is supplied by the Socket.Connected property. The revised version of the method would looks something like this:

 static bool IsSocketConnected(Socket s)
    {
        return !((s.Poll(1000, SelectMode.SelectRead) && (s.Available == 0)) || !s.Connected);

/* The long, but simpler-to-understand version:

        bool part1 = s.Poll(1000, SelectMode.SelectRead);
        bool part2 = (s.Available == 0);
        if ((part1 && part2 ) || !s.Connected)
            return false;
        else
            return true;

*/
    }

Failed to configure a DataSource: 'url' attribute is not specified and no embedded datasource could be configured

For me the resource folder was getting excluded on a maven update/build. I went to Build Path>Source and found that src/main/resources have "Excluded **". I removed that entry (Clicked on Excluded **>Remove>Apply and Close).

Then it worked fine.

Best equivalent VisualStudio IDE for Mac to program .NET/C#

MonoDevelop from: http://monodevelop.com/

There is no equivalent to Visual Studio. However, for writing C# on Mac or Linux, you can't get better than MonoDevelop.

The Mac build is pre beta. From the MonoDevelop site on Mac:

The Mac OS X port of MonoDevelop is under active development and has not seen a stable release yet. Recent work described by Michael Hutchinson has focussed on improving the usability and stability of Monodevelop on the Mac. This work will be released in MonoDevelop 2.2. Right now it's not finished, and is very much an alpha.

Open Google Chrome from VBA/Excel

I found an easier way to do it and it works perfectly even if you don't know the path where the chrome is located.

First of all, you have to paste this code in the top of the module.

Option Explicit
Private pWebAddress As String
Public Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" _
(ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As String, ByVal lpFile As String, _
ByVal lpParameters As String, ByVal lpDirectory As String, ByVal nShowCmd As Long) As Long

After that you have to create this two modules:

Sub LoadExplorer()
    LoadFile "Chrome.exe" ' Here you are executing the chrome. exe
End Sub

Sub LoadFile(FileName As String)
    ShellExecute 0, "Open", FileName, "http://test.123", "", 1 ' You can change the URL.
End Sub

With this you will be able (if you want) to set a variable for the url or just leave it like hardcode.

Ps: It works perfectly for others browsers just changing "Chrome.exe" to opera, bing, etc.

'setInterval' vs 'setTimeout'

setTimeout():

It is a function that execute a JavaScript statement AFTER x interval.

setTimeout(function () {
    something();
}, 1000); // Execute something() 1 second later.

setInterval():

It is a function that execute a JavaScript statement EVERY x interval.

setInterval(function () {
    somethingElse();
}, 2000); // Execute somethingElse() every 2 seconds.

The interval unit is in millisecond for both functions.

How can I restart a Java application?

Eclipse typically restarts after a plugin is installed. They do this using a wrapper eclipse.exe (launcher app) for windows. This application execs the core eclipse runner jar and if the eclipse java application terminates with a relaunch code, eclipse.exe restarts the workbench. You can build a similar bit of native code, shell script or another java code wrapper to achieve the restart.

Android Facebook integration with invalid key hash

What Facebook used is not the default password and alias for debug. You need to change it following and it will work.

/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.8.0_66/bin/keytool -exportcert -alias androiddebugkey -keystore ~/.android/debug.keystore | openssl sha1 -binary | openssl base64

If you have not changed anything with the default password it should be "android".

You can also configure it in the build.gradle file. But the same alias password should be used for generating the hash:

android {
    signingConfigs {
        release {
            storeFile file("~/.android/debug.keystore")
            storePassword "android"
            keyAlias "androiddebugkey"
            keyPassword "android"
        }
    }
}

Pure CSS animation visibility with delay

Unfortunately you can't animate the display property. For a full list of what you can animate, try this CSS animation list by w3 Schools.

If you want to retain it's visual position on the page, you should try animating either it's height (which will still affect the position of other elements), or opacity (how transparent it is). You could even try animating the z-index, which is the position on the z axis (depth), by putting an element over the top of it, and then rearranging what's on top. However, I'd suggest using opacity, as it retains the vertical space where the element is.

I've updated the fiddle to show an example.

Good luck!

How to define two angular apps / modules in one page?

You can bootstrap multiple angular applications, but:

1) You need to manually bootstrap them

2) You should not use "document" as the root, but the node where the angular interface is contained to:

var todoRootNode = jQuery('[ng-controller=TodoController]');
angular.bootstrap(todoRootNode, ['TodoApp']);

This would be safe.

What is the most efficient way to deep clone an object in JavaScript?

Requires new-ish browsers, but...

Let's extend the native Object and get a real .extend();

Object.defineProperty(Object.prototype, 'extend', {
    enumerable: false,
    value: function(){
        var that = this;

        Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments).map(function(source){
            var props = Object.getOwnPropertyNames(source),
                i = 0, l = props.length,
                prop;

            for(; i < l; ++i){
                prop = props[i];

                if(that.hasOwnProperty(prop) && typeof(that[prop]) === 'object'){
                    that[prop] = that[prop].extend(source[prop]);
                }else{
                    Object.defineProperty(that, prop, Object.getOwnPropertyDescriptor(source, prop));
                }
            }
        });

        return this;
    }
});

Just pop that in prior to any code that uses .extend() on an object.

Example:

var obj1 = {
    node1: '1',
    node2: '2',
    node3: 3
};

var obj2 = {
    node1: '4',
    node2: 5,
    node3: '6'
};

var obj3 = ({}).extend(obj1, obj2);

console.log(obj3);
// Object {node1: "4", node2: 5, node3: "6"}

Why aren't python nested functions called closures?

The question has already been answered by aaronasterling

However, someone might be interested in how the variables are stored under the hood.

Before coming to the snippet:

Closures are functions that inherit variables from their enclosing environment. When you pass a function callback as an argument to another function that will do I/O, this callback function will be invoked later, and this function will — almost magically — remember the context in which it was declared, along with all the variables available in that context.

  • If a function does not use free variables it doesn't form a closure.

  • If there is another inner level which uses free variables -- all previous levels save the lexical environment ( example at the end )

  • function attributes func_closure in python < 3.X or __closure__ in python > 3.X save the free variables.

  • Every function in python has this closure attributes, but it doesn't save any content if there is no free variables.

example: of closure attributes but no content inside as there is no free variable.

>>> def foo():
...     def fii():
...         pass
...     return fii
...
>>> f = foo()
>>> f.func_closure
>>> 'func_closure' in dir(f)
True
>>>

NB: FREE VARIABLE IS MUST TO CREATE A CLOSURE.

I will explain using the same snippet as above:

>>> def make_printer(msg):
...     def printer():
...         print msg
...     return printer
...
>>> printer = make_printer('Foo!')
>>> printer()  #Output: Foo!

And all Python functions have a closure attribute so let's examine the enclosing variables associated with a closure function.

Here is the attribute func_closure for the function printer

>>> 'func_closure' in dir(printer)
True
>>> printer.func_closure
(<cell at 0x108154c90: str object at 0x108151de0>,)
>>>

The closure attribute returns a tuple of cell objects which contain details of the variables defined in the enclosing scope.

The first element in the func_closure which could be None or a tuple of cells that contain bindings for the function’s free variables and it is read-only.

>>> dir(printer.func_closure[0])
['__class__', '__cmp__', '__delattr__', '__doc__', '__format__', '__getattribute__',
 '__hash__', '__init__', '__new__', '__reduce__', '__reduce_ex__', '__repr__',
 '__setattr__',  '__sizeof__', '__str__', '__subclasshook__', 'cell_contents']
>>>

Here in the above output you can see cell_contents, let's see what it stores:

>>> printer.func_closure[0].cell_contents
'Foo!'
>>> type(printer.func_closure[0].cell_contents)
<type 'str'>
>>>

So, when we called the function printer(), it accesses the value stored inside the cell_contents. This is how we got the output as 'Foo!'

Again I will explain using the above snippet with some changes:

 >>> def make_printer(msg):
 ...     def printer():
 ...         pass
 ...     return printer
 ...
 >>> printer = make_printer('Foo!')
 >>> printer.func_closure
 >>>

In the above snippet, I din't print msg inside the printer function, so it doesn't create any free variable. As there is no free variable, there will be no content inside the closure. Thats exactly what we see above.

Now I will explain another different snippet to clear out everything Free Variable with Closure:

>>> def outer(x):
...     def intermediate(y):
...         free = 'free'
...         def inner(z):
...             return '%s %s %s %s' %  (x, y, free, z)
...         return inner
...     return intermediate
...
>>> outer('I')('am')('variable')
'I am free variable'
>>>
>>> inter = outer('I')
>>> inter.func_closure
(<cell at 0x10c989130: str object at 0x10c831b98>,)
>>> inter.func_closure[0].cell_contents
'I'
>>> inn = inter('am')

So, we see that a func_closure property is a tuple of closure cells, we can refer them and their contents explicitly -- a cell has property "cell_contents"

>>> inn.func_closure

 <cell at 0x10c980f68: str object at   0x10c9eaf30>,

Here when we called inn, it will refer all the save free variables so we get I am free variable

How do I use cascade delete with SQL Server?

You can do this with SQL Server Management Studio.

? Right click the table design and go to Relationships and choose the foreign key on the left-side pane and in the right-side pane, expand the menu "INSERT and UPDATE specification" and select "Cascade" as Delete Rule.

Typescript: How to extend two classes?

In design patterns there is a principle called "favouring composition over inheritance". It says instead of inheriting Class B from Class A ,put an instance of class A inside class B as a property and then you can use functionalities of class A inside class B. You can see some examples of that here and here.

How can I pass a file argument to my bash script using a Terminal command in Linux?

Assuming you do as David Zaslavsky suggests, so that the first argument simply is the program to run (no option-parsing required), you're dealing with the question of how to pass arguments 2 and on to your external program. Here's a convenient way:

#!/bin/bash
ext_program="$1"
shift
"$ext_program" "$@"

The shift will remove the first argument, renaming the rest ($2 becomes $1, and so on).$@` refers to the arguments, as an array of words (it must be quoted!).

If you must have your --file syntax (for example, if there's a default program to run, so the user doesn't necessarily have to supply one), just replace ext_program="$1" with whatever parsing of $1 you need to do, perhaps using getopt or getopts.

If you want to roll your own, for just the one specific case, you could do something like this:

if [ "$#" -gt 0 -a "${1:0:6}" == "--file" ]; then
    ext_program="${1:7}"
else
    ext_program="default program"

Serialize form data to JSON

Using Underscore.js:

function serializeForm($form){
    return _.object(_.map($form.serializeArray(), function(item){return [item.name, item.value]; }));
}

JavaScript Object Id

I've just come across this, and thought I'd add my thoughts. As others have suggested, I'd recommend manually adding IDs, but if you really want something close to what you've described, you could use this:

var objectId = (function () {
    var allObjects = [];

    var f = function(obj) {
        if (allObjects.indexOf(obj) === -1) {
            allObjects.push(obj);
        }
        return allObjects.indexOf(obj);
    }
    f.clear = function() {
      allObjects = [];
    };
    return f;
})();

You can get any object's ID by calling objectId(obj). Then if you want the id to be a property of the object, you can either extend the prototype:

Object.prototype.id = function () {
    return objectId(this);
}

or you can manually add an ID to each object by adding a similar function as a method.

The major caveat is that this will prevent the garbage collector from destroying objects when they drop out of scope... they will never drop out of the scope of the allObjects array, so you might find memory leaks are an issue. If your set on using this method, you should do so for debugging purpose only. When needed, you can do objectId.clear() to clear the allObjects and let the GC do its job (but from that point the object ids will all be reset).

Why am I getting an OPTIONS request instead of a GET request?

I had the same problem. My fix was to add headers to my PHP script which are present only when in dev environment.

This allows cross-domain requests:

header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *");

This tells the preflight request that it is OK for the client to send any headers it wants:

header("Access-Control-Allow-Headers: *");

This way there is no need to modify the request.

If you have sensitive data in your dev database that might potentially be leaked, then you might think twice about this.

How to write new line character to a file in Java

Here is a snippet that gets the default newline character for the current platform. Use System.getProperty("os.name") and System.getProperty("os.version"). Example:

public static String getSystemNewline(){
    String eol = null;
    String os = System.getProperty("os.name").toLowerCase();
    if(os.contains("mac"){
        int v = Integer.parseInt(System.getProperty("os.version"));
        eol = (v <= 9 ? "\r" : "\n");
    }
    if(os.contains("nix"))
        eol = "\n";
    if(os.contains("win"))
        eol = "\r\n";

    return eol;

Why should we NOT use sys.setdefaultencoding("utf-8") in a py script?

tl;dr

The answer is NEVER! (unless you really know what you're doing)

9/10 times the solution can be resolved with a proper understanding of encoding/decoding.

1/10 people have an incorrectly defined locale or environment and need to set:

PYTHONIOENCODING="UTF-8"

in their environment to fix console printing problems.

What does it do?

sys.setdefaultencoding("utf-8") (struck through to avoid re-use) changes the default encoding/decoding used whenever Python 2.x needs to convert a Unicode() to a str() (and vice-versa) and the encoding is not given. I.e:

str(u"\u20AC")
unicode("€")
"{}".format(u"\u20AC")

In Python 2.x, the default encoding is set to ASCII and the above examples will fail with:

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xe2 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

(My console is configured as UTF-8, so "€" = '\xe2\x82\xac', hence exception on \xe2)

or

UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u20ac' in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

sys.setdefaultencoding("utf-8") will allow these to work for me, but won't necessarily work for people who don't use UTF-8. The default of ASCII ensures that assumptions of encoding are not baked into code

Console

sys.setdefaultencoding("utf-8") also has a side effect of appearing to fix sys.stdout.encoding, used when printing characters to the console. Python uses the user's locale (Linux/OS X/Un*x) or codepage (Windows) to set this. Occasionally, a user's locale is broken and just requires PYTHONIOENCODING to fix the console encoding.

Example:

$ export LANG=en_GB.gibberish
$ python
>>> import sys
>>> sys.stdout.encoding
'ANSI_X3.4-1968'
>>> print u"\u20AC"
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u20ac' in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)
>>> exit()

$ PYTHONIOENCODING=UTF-8 python
>>> import sys
>>> sys.stdout.encoding
'UTF-8'
>>> print u"\u20AC"
€

What's so bad with sys.setdefaultencoding("utf-8")?

People have been developing against Python 2.x for 16 years on the understanding that the default encoding is ASCII. UnicodeError exception handling methods have been written to handle string to Unicode conversions on strings that are found to contain non-ASCII.

From https://anonbadger.wordpress.com/2015/06/16/why-sys-setdefaultencoding-will-break-code/

def welcome_message(byte_string):
    try:
        return u"%s runs your business" % byte_string
    except UnicodeError:
        return u"%s runs your business" % unicode(byte_string,
            encoding=detect_encoding(byte_string))

print(welcome_message(u"Angstrom (Å®)".encode("latin-1"))

Previous to setting defaultencoding this code would be unable to decode the “Å” in the ascii encoding and then would enter the exception handler to guess the encoding and properly turn it into unicode. Printing: Angstrom (Å®) runs your business. Once you’ve set the defaultencoding to utf-8 the code will find that the byte_string can be interpreted as utf-8 and so it will mangle the data and return this instead: Angstrom (U) runs your business.

Changing what should be a constant will have dramatic effects on modules you depend upon. It's better to just fix the data coming in and out of your code.

Example problem

While the setting of defaultencoding to UTF-8 isn't the root cause in the following example, it shows how problems are masked and how, when the input encoding changes, the code breaks in an unobvious way: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 3131: invalid start byte

Simplest SOAP example

Thomas:

JSON is preferred for front end use because we have easy lookups. Therefore you have no XML to deal with. SOAP is a pain without using a library because of this. Somebody mentioned SOAPClient, which is a good library, we started with it for our project. However it had some limitations and we had to rewrite large chunks of it. It's been released as SOAPjs and supports passing complex objects to the server, and includes some sample proxy code to consume services from other domains.

PostgreSQL : cast string to date DD/MM/YYYY

The documentation says

The output format of the date/time types can be set to one of the four styles ISO 8601, SQL (Ingres), traditional POSTGRES (Unix date format), or German. The default is the ISO format.

So this particular format can be controlled with postgres date time output, eg:

t=# select now();
              now
-------------------------------
 2017-11-29 09:15:25.348342+00
(1 row)

t=# set datestyle to DMY, SQL;
SET
t=# select now();
              now
-------------------------------
 29/11/2017 09:15:31.28477 UTC
(1 row)

t=# select now()::date;
    now
------------
 29/11/2017
(1 row)

Mind that as @Craig mentioned in his answer, changing datestyle will also (and in first turn) change the way postgres parses date.

find path of current folder - cmd

2015-03-30: Edited - Missing information has been added

To retrieve the current directory you can use the dynamic %cd% variable that holds the current active directory

set "curpath=%cd%"

This generates a value with a ending backslash for the root directory, and without a backslash for the rest of directories. You can force and ending backslash for any directory with

for %%a in ("%cd%\") do set "curpath=%%~fa"

Or you can use another dynamic variable: %__CD__% that will return the current active directory with an ending backslash.

Also, remember the %cd% variable can have a value directly assigned. In this case, the value returned will not be the current directory, but the assigned value. You can prevent this with a reference to the current directory

for %%a in (".\") do set "curpath=%%~fa"

Up to windows XP, the %__CD__% variable has the same behaviour. It can be overwritten by the user, but at least from windows 7 (i can't test it on Vista), any change to the %__CD__% is allowed but when the variable is read, the changed value is ignored and the correct current active directory is retrieved (note: the changed value is still visible using the set command).

BUT all the previous codes will return the current active directory, not the directory where the batch file is stored.

set "curpath=%~dp0"

It will return the directory where the batch file is stored, with an ending backslash.

BUT this will fail if in the batch file the shift command has been used

shift
echo %~dp0

As the arguments to the batch file has been shifted, the %0 reference to the current batch file is lost.

To prevent this, you can retrieve the reference to the batch file before any shifting, or change the syntax to shift /1 to ensure the shift operation will start at the first argument, not affecting the reference to the batch file. If you can not use any of this options, you can retrieve the reference to the current batch file in a call to a subroutine

@echo off
    setlocal enableextensions

    rem Destroy batch file reference
    shift
    echo batch folder is "%~dp0"

    rem Call the subroutine to get the batch folder
    call :getBatchFolder batchFolder
    echo batch folder is "%batchFolder%"

    exit /b

:getBatchFolder returnVar
    set "%~1=%~dp0" & exit /b

This approach can also be necessary if when invoked the batch file name is quoted and a full reference is not used (read here).

Select a dummy column with a dummy value in SQL?

If you meant just ABC as simple value, answer above is the one that works fine.

If you meant concatenation of values of rows that are not selected by your main query, you will need to use a subquery.

Something like this may work:

SELECT t1.col1,
t1.col2,
(SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(col2 SEPARATOR '') FROM  Table1 t2 WHERE t2.col1 != 0) as col3
FROM Table1 t1
WHERE t1.col1 = 0;

Actual syntax maybe a bit off though

Confusing error in R: Error in scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : line 1 did not have 42 elements)

read.table wants to return a data.frame, which must have an element in each column. Therefore R expects each row to have the same number of elements and it doesn't fill in empty spaces by default. Try read.table("/PathTo/file.csv" , fill = TRUE ) to fill in the blanks.

e.g.

read.table( text= "Element1 Element2
Element5 Element6 Element7" , fill = TRUE , header = FALSE )
#        V1       V2       V3
#1 Element1 Element2
#2 Element5 Element6 Element7

A note on whether or not to set header = FALSE... read.table tries to automatically determine if you have a header row thus:

header is set to TRUE if and only if the first row contains one fewer field than the number of columns

Fixed position but relative to container

I have the same issue, one of our team members gives me a solution. To allowed the div fix position and relative to other div, our solution is to use a father container wrap the fix div and scroll div.

<div class="container">
  <div class="scroll"></div>
  <div class="fix"></div>
</div>

css

.container {
  position: relative;
  flex:1;
  display:flex;
}

.fix {
  prosition:absolute;
}

How I can check whether a page is loaded completely or not in web driver?

Selenium does it for you. Or at least it tries its best. Sometimes it falls short, and you must help it a little bit. The usual solution is Implicit Wait which solves most of the problems.

If you really know what you're doing, and why you're doing it, you could try to write a generic method which would check whether the page is completely loaded. However, it can't be done for every web and for every situation.

Related question: Selenium WebDriver : Wait for complex page with JavaScript(JS) to load, see my answer there.

Shorter version: You'll never be sure.

The "normal" load is easy - document.readyState. This one is implemented by Selenium, of course. The problematic thing are asynchronous requests, AJAX, because you can never tell whether it's done for good or not. Most of today's webpages have scripts that run forever and poll the server all the time.

The various things you could do are under the link above. Or, like 95% of other people, use Implicit Wait implicity and Explicit Wait + ExpectedConditions where needed.

E.g. after a click, some element on the page should become visible and you need to wait for it:

WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, 10); // you can reuse this one

WebElement elem = driver.findElement(By.id("myInvisibleElement"));
elem.click();
wait.until(ExpectedConditions.visibilityOf(elem));

Getting an Embedded YouTube Video to Auto Play and Loop

All of the answers didn't work for me, I checked the playlist URL and seen that playlist parameter changed to list! So it should be:

How to convert a factor to integer\numeric without loss of information?

It is possible only in the case when the factor labels match the original values. I will explain it with an example.

Assume the data is vector x:

x <- c(20, 10, 30, 20, 10, 40, 10, 40)

Now I will create a factor with four labels:

f <- factor(x, levels = c(10, 20, 30, 40), labels = c("A", "B", "C", "D"))

1) x is with type double, f is with type integer. This is the first unavoidable loss of information. Factors are always stored as integers.

> typeof(x)
[1] "double"
> typeof(f)
[1] "integer"

2) It is not possible to revert back to the original values (10, 20, 30, 40) having only f available. We can see that f holds only integer values 1, 2, 3, 4 and two attributes - the list of labels ("A", "B", "C", "D") and the class attribute "factor". Nothing more.

> str(f)
 Factor w/ 4 levels "A","B","C","D": 2 1 3 2 1 4 1 4
> attributes(f)
$levels
[1] "A" "B" "C" "D"

$class
[1] "factor"

To revert back to the original values we have to know the values of levels used in creating the factor. In this case c(10, 20, 30, 40). If we know the original levels (in correct order), we can revert back to the original values.

> orig_levels <- c(10, 20, 30, 40)
> x1 <- orig_levels[f]
> all.equal(x, x1)
[1] TRUE

And this will work only in case when labels have been defined for all possible values in the original data.

So if you will need the original values, you have to keep them. Otherwise there is a high chance it will not be possible to get back to them only from a factor.

Scanner vs. StringTokenizer vs. String.Split

One important difference is that both String.split() and Scanner can produce empty strings but StringTokenizer never does it.

For example:

String str = "ab cd  ef";

StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(str, " ");
for (int i = 0; st.hasMoreTokens(); i++) System.out.println("#" + i + ": " + st.nextToken());

String[] split = str.split(" ");
for (int i = 0; i < split.length; i++) System.out.println("#" + i + ": " + split[i]);

Scanner sc = new Scanner(str).useDelimiter(" ");
for (int i = 0; sc.hasNext(); i++) System.out.println("#" + i + ": " + sc.next());

Output:

//StringTokenizer
#0: ab
#1: cd
#2: ef
//String.split()
#0: ab
#1: cd
#2:
#3: ef
//Scanner
#0: ab
#1: cd
#2:
#3: ef

This is because the delimiter for String.split() and Scanner.useDelimiter() is not just a string, but a regular expression. We can replace the delimiter " " with " +" in the example above to make them behave like StringTokenizer.

Error message: (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)

Adding this to my connection string worked for me:

Java : Comparable vs Comparator

Comparator provides a way for you to provide custom comparison logic for types that you have no control over.

Comparable allows you to specify how objects that you are implementing get compared.

Obviously, if you don't have control over a class (or you want to provide multiple ways to compare objects that you do have control over) then use Comparator.

Otherwise you can use Comparable.

Returning data from Axios API

you can populate the data you want with a simple callback function, let's say we have a list named lst that we want to populate, we have a function that pupulates pupulates list,

const lst = [];
const populateData = (data) => {lst.push(data)}

now we can pass the callback function to the function which is making the axios call and we can pupulate the list when we get data from response.

now we make our function that makes the request and pass populateData as a callback function.

function axiosTest (populateData) {
        axios.get(url)
       .then(function(response){
               populateData(response.data);
        })
        .catch(function(error){
               console.log(error);
         });
}

CSS filter: make color image with transparency white

To my knowledge, there is sadly no CSS filter to colorise an element (perhaps with the use of some SVG filter magic, but I'm somewhat unfamiliar with that) and even if that wasn't the case, filters are basically only supported by webkit browsers.

With that said, you could still work around this and use a canvas to modify your image. Basically, you can draw an image element onto a canvas and then loop through the pixels, modifying the respective RGBA values to the colour you want.

However, canvases do come with some restrictions. Most importantly, you have to make sure that the image src comes from the same domain as the page. Otherwise the browser won't allow you to read or modify the pixel data of the canvas.

Here's a JSFiddle changing the colour of the JSFiddle logo.

Postgres manually alter sequence

I don't try changing sequence via setval. But using ALTER I was issued how to write sequence name properly. And this only work for me:

  1. Check required sequence name using SELECT * FROM information_schema.sequences;

  2. ALTER SEQUENCE public."table_name_Id_seq" restart {number};

    In my case it was ALTER SEQUENCE public."Services_Id_seq" restart 8;

Also there is a page on wiki.postgresql.org where describes a way to generate sql script to fix sequences in all database tables at once. Below the text from link:

Save this to a file, say 'reset.sql'

SELECT 'SELECT SETVAL(' ||
       quote_literal(quote_ident(PGT.schemaname) || '.' || quote_ident(S.relname)) ||
       ', COALESCE(MAX(' ||quote_ident(C.attname)|| '), 1) ) FROM ' ||
       quote_ident(PGT.schemaname)|| '.'||quote_ident(T.relname)|| ';'
FROM pg_class AS S,
     pg_depend AS D,
     pg_class AS T,
     pg_attribute AS C,
     pg_tables AS PGT
WHERE S.relkind = 'S'
    AND S.oid = D.objid
    AND D.refobjid = T.oid
    AND D.refobjid = C.attrelid
    AND D.refobjsubid = C.attnum
    AND T.relname = PGT.tablename
ORDER BY S.relname;

Run the file and save its output in a way that doesn't include the usual headers, then run that output. Example:

psql -Atq -f reset.sql -o temp
psql -f temp
rm temp

And the output will be a set of sql commands which look exactly like this:

SELECT SETVAL('public."SocialMentionEvents_Id_seq"', COALESCE(MAX("Id"), 1) ) FROM public."SocialMentionEvents";
SELECT SETVAL('public."Users_Id_seq"', COALESCE(MAX("Id"), 1) ) FROM public."Users";

Adding git branch on the Bash command prompt

If you use the fish shell its quite straight forward. fish is an interactive shell which comes with lots of goodies. You can install it using apt-get.

sudo apt-get install fish

you can then change the prompt setting using

> fish_config
Web config started at 'http://localhost:8001/'. Hit enter to stop.
Created new window in existing browser session.

now go to http://localhost:8001/ open the prompt tab and choose the classic + git option

Now click on the use prompt button and you are set.

NoClassDefFoundError in Java: com/google/common/base/Function

I wanted to try a simple class outside IDE and stuff. So downloaded selenium zip from website and run the class like this:

java -cp selenium-2.50.1/*:selenium-2.50.1/libs/*:. my/package/MyClass <params>

I had the issue that I initially used lib instead of libs. I didn't need to add selenium standalone jar. This is Java 8 that understands wildcards in classpath. I think java 7 would also do.

Jump into interface implementation in Eclipse IDE

Well... well... I hope you use Eclipse Helios, because what you asked is available on Helios.

Put your text cursor again on the method and click menu Navigate ? Open Implementation. Now if you have more than one implementation of the method, you will get choice to pick which implementation to open.

alt text

By defining a keybinding on Preferences ? General ? Keys you can even use the feature easier, but before you do that, see if this shortcut is fast enough for you.

Press Ctrl + click and hold. Now move your mouse over the same method. Tadam… you will get choice.

alt text

If you pick Open Implementation you’ll get the same choice as before.

How can I programmatically get the MAC address of an iphone

Does JSON syntax allow duplicate keys in an object?

The JSON spec says this:

An object is an unordered set of name/value pairs.

The important part here is "unordered": it implies uniqueness of keys, because the only thing you can use to refer to a specific pair is its key.

In addition, most JSON libs will deserialize JSON objects to hash maps/dictionaries, where keys are guaranteed unique. What happens when you deserialize a JSON object with duplicate keys depends on the library: in most cases, you'll either get an error, or only the last value for each duplicate key will be taken into account.

For example, in Python, json.loads('{"a": 1, "a": 2}') returns {"a": 2}.

Submitting a form by pressing enter without a submit button

I think you should go the Javascript route, or at least I would:

<script type="text/javascript">
// Using jQuery.

$(function() {
    $('form').each(function() {
        $(this).find('input').keypress(function(e) {
            // Enter pressed?
            if(e.which == 10 || e.which == 13) {
                this.form.submit();
            }
        });

        $(this).find('input[type=submit]').hide();
    });
});
</script>

<form name="loginBox" target="#here" method="post">
    <input name="username" type="text" /><br />
    <input name="password" type="password" />
    <input type="submit" />
</form>

Cleanest way to reset forms

You can also do it through the JavaScript:

(document.querySelector("form_selector") as HTMLFormElement).reset();

Cannot implicitly convert type 'string' to 'System.Threading.Tasks.Task<string>'

}

How to extract HTTP response body from a Python requests call?

import requests

site_request = requests.get("https://abhiunix.in")

site_response = str(site_request.content)

print(site_response)

You can do it either way.

Jackson with JSON: Unrecognized field, not marked as ignorable

The shortest solution without setter/getter is to add @JsonProperty to a class field:

public class Wrapper {
    @JsonProperty
    private List<Student> wrapper;
}

public class Student {
    @JsonProperty
    private String name;
    @JsonProperty
    private String id;
}

Also, you called students list "wrapper" in your json, so Jackson expects a class with a field called "wrapper".

Git push/clone to new server

There are many ways to move repositories around, git bundle is a nice way if you have insufficient network availability. Since a Git repository is really just a directory full of files, you can "clone" a repository by making a copy of the .git directory in whatever way suits you best.

The most efficient way is to use an external repository somewhere (use GitHub or set up Gitosis), and then git push.

How to do SELECT MAX in Django?

See this. Your code would be something like the following:

from django.db.models import Max
# Generates a "SELECT MAX..." query
Argument.objects.aggregate(Max('rating')) # {'rating__max': 5}

You can also use this on existing querysets:

from django.db.models import Max
args = Argument.objects.filter(name='foo') # or whatever arbitrary queryset
args.aggregate(Max('rating')) # {'rating__max': 5}

If you need the model instance that contains this max value, then the code you posted is probably the best way to do it:

arg = args.order_by('-rating')[0]

Note that this will error if the queryset is empty, i.e. if no arguments match the query (because the [0] part will raise an IndexError). If you want to avoid that behavior and instead simply return None in that case, use .first():

arg = args.order_by('-rating').first() # may return None

If the radiobutton-checked event occurs before the content of the window is loaded fully, i.e. the ellipse is loaded fully, such an exception will be thrown. So check if the UI of the window is loaded (probably by Window_ContentRendered event, etc.).

AngularJS - get element attributes values

If you are using Angular2+ following code will help

You can use following syntax to get attribute value from html element

//to retrieve html element

const element = fixture.debugElement.nativeElement.querySelector('name of element'); // example a, h1, p

//get attribute value from that element

  const attributeValue = element.attributeName // like textContent/href

Data binding for TextBox

You need a bindingsource object to act as an intermediary and assist in the binding. Then instead of updating the user interface, update the underlining model.

var model = (Fruit) bindingSource1.DataSource;

model.FruitType = "oranges";

bindingSource.ResetBindings();

Read up on BindingSource and simple data binding for Windows Forms.

Why write <script type="text/javascript"> when the mime type is set by the server?

It allows browsers to determine if they can handle the scripting/style language before making a request for the script or stylesheet (or, in the case of embedded script/style, identify which language is being used).

This would be much more important if there had been more competition among languages in browser space, but VBScript never made it beyond IE and PerlScript never made it beyond an IE specific plugin while JSSS was pretty rubbish to begin with.

The draft of HTML5 makes the attribute optional.

Java format yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSz to yyyy-mm-dd HH:mm:ss

String dateStr = "2016-09-17T08:14:03+00:00";
String s = dateStr.replace("Z", "+00:00");
s = s.substring(0, 22) + s.substring(23);
Date date = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ").parse(s);
Timestamp createdOn = new Timestamp(date.getTime());
mcList.setCreated_on(createdOn);

Java 7 added support for time zone descriptors according to ISO 8601. This can be use in Java 7.

React - Display loading screen while DOM is rendering?

I also used @Ori Drori's answer and managed to get it to work. As your React code grows, so will the bundles compiled that the client browser will have to download on first time access. This imposes a user experience issue if you don't handle it well.

What I added to @Ori answer was to add and execute the onload function in the index.html on onload attribute of the body tag, so that the loader disappear after everything has been fully loaded in the browse, see the snippet below:

<html>
  <head>
     <style>
       .loader:empty {
          position: absolute;
          top: calc(50% - 4em);

You could use XDocument:

)
.Save("foo.xml");

If the file you want to create is very big and cannot fit into memory you might use XmlWriter.

downcast and upcast

  1. That is correct. When you do that you are casting it it into an employee object, so that means you cannot access anything manager specific.

  2. Downcasting is where you take a base class and then try and turn it into a more specific class. This can be accomplished with using is and an explicit cast like this:

    if (employee is Manager)
    {
        Manager m = (Manager)employee;
        //do something with it
    }

or with the as operator like this:

Manager m = (employee as Manager);
if (m != null)
{
    //do something with it
}

If anything is unclear I'll be happy to correct it!

remove kernel on jupyter notebook

jupyter kernelspec remove now exists, see #7934.

So you can just.

# List all kernels and grap the name of the kernel you want to remove
jupyter kernelspec list
# Remove it
jupyter kernelspec remove <kernel_name>

That's it.

git - remote add origin vs remote set-url origin

To add a new remote, use the git remote add command on the terminal, in the directory your repository is stored at.

The git remote set-url command changes an existing remote repository URL.

So basicly, remote add is to add a new one, remote set-url is to update an existing one

dotnet ef not found in .NET Core 3

I was having this problem after I installed the dotnet-ef tool using Ansible with sudo escalated previllage on Ubuntu. I had to add become: no for the Playbook task, then the dotnet-ef tool became available to the current user.

  - name: install dotnet tool dotnet-ef
    command: dotnet tool install --global dotnet-ef --version {{dotnetef_version}}
    become: no

Change directory in Node.js command prompt

If you mean to change default directory for "Node.js command prompt", when you launch it, then (Windows case)

  1. go the directory where NodeJS was installed
  2. find file nodevars.bat
  3. open it with editor as administrator
  4. change the default path in the row which looks like

    if "%CD%\"=="%~dp0" cd /d "%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%"

with your path. It could be for example

    if "%CD%\"=="%~dp0" cd /d "c://MyDirectory/"

if you mean to change directory once when you launched "Node.js command prompt", then execute the following command in the Node.js command prompt:

     cd c:/MyDirectory/

Configuring so that pip install can work from github

Clone target repository same way like you cloning any other project:

git clone [email protected]:myuser/foo.git

Then install it in develop mode:

cd foo
pip install -e .

You can change anything you wan't and every code using foo package will use modified code.

There 2 benefits ot this solution:

  1. You can install package in your home projects directory.
  2. Package includes .git dir, so it's regular Git repository. You can push to your fork right away.

Importing Excel spreadsheet data into another Excel spreadsheet containing VBA

This should get you started: Using VBA in your own Excel workbook, have it prompt the user for the filename of their data file, then just copy that fixed range into your target workbook (that could be either the same workbook as your macro enabled one, or a third workbook). Here's a quick vba example of how that works:

' Get customer workbook...
Dim customerBook As Workbook
Dim filter As String
Dim caption As String
Dim customerFilename As String
Dim customerWorkbook As Workbook
Dim targetWorkbook As Workbook

' make weak assumption that active workbook is the target
Set targetWorkbook = Application.ActiveWorkbook

' get the customer workbook
filter = "Text files (*.xlsx),*.xlsx"
caption = "Please Select an input file "
customerFilename = Application.GetOpenFilename(filter, , caption)

Set customerWorkbook = Application.Workbooks.Open(customerFilename)

' assume range is A1 - C10 in sheet1
' copy data from customer to target workbook
Dim targetSheet As Worksheet
Set targetSheet = targetWorkbook.Worksheets(1)
Dim sourceSheet As Worksheet
Set sourceSheet = customerWorkbook.Worksheets(1)

targetSheet.Range("A1", "C10").Value = sourceSheet.Range("A1", "C10").Value

' Close customer workbook
customerWorkbook.Close

How to execute a Python script from the Django shell?

You're not recommended to do that from the shell - and this is intended as you shouldn't really be executing random scripts from the django environment (but there are ways around this, see the other answers).

If this is a script that you will be running multiple times, it's a good idea to set it up as a custom command ie

 $ ./manage.py my_command

to do this create a file in a subdir of management and commands of your app, ie

my_app/
    __init__.py
    models.py
    management/
        __init__.py
        commands/
            __init__.py
            my_command.py
    tests.py
    views.py

and in this file define your custom command (ensuring that the name of the file is the name of the command you want to execute from ./manage.py)

from django.core.management.base import BaseCommand

class Command(BaseCommand):
    def handle(self, **options):
        # now do the things that you want with your models here

When is each sorting algorithm used?

@dsimcha wrote: Counting sort: When you are sorting integers with a limited range

I would change that to:

Counting sort: When you sort positive integers (0 - Integer.MAX_VALUE-2 due to the pigeonhole).

You can always get the max and min values as an efficiency heuristic in linear time as well.
Also you need at least n extra space for the intermediate array and it is stable obviously.

/**
* Some VMs reserve some header words in an array.
* Attempts to allocate larger arrays may result in
* OutOfMemoryError: Requested array size exceeds VM limit
*/
private static final int MAX_ARRAY_SIZE = Integer.MAX_VALUE - 8;

(even though it actually will allow to MAX_VALUE-2) see: Do Java arrays have a maximum size?

Also I would explain that radix sort complexity is O(wn) for n keys which are integers of word size w. Sometimes w is presented as a constant, which would make radix sort better (for sufficiently large n) than the best comparison-based sorting algorithms, which all perform O(n log n) comparisons to sort n keys. However, in general w cannot be considered a constant: if all n keys are distinct, then w has to be at least log n for a random-access machine to be able to store them in memory, which gives at best a time complexity O(n log n). (from wikipedia)

How do you stop MySQL on a Mac OS install?

IIS7 Settings File Locations

Also check this answer from here: Cannot manually edit applicationhost.config

The answer is simple, if not that obvious: win2008 is 64bit, notepad++ is 32bit. When you navigate to Windows\System32\inetsrv\config using explorer you are using a 64bit program to find the file. When you open the file using using notepad++ you are trying to open it using a 32bit program. The confusion occurs because, rather than telling you that this is what you are doing, windows allows you to open the file but when you save it the file's path is transparently mapped to Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\Config.

So in practice what happens is you open applicationhost.config using notepad++, make a change, save the file; but rather than overwriting the original you are saving a 32bit copy of it in Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\Config, therefore you are not making changes to the version that is actually used by IIS. If you navigate to the Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\Config you will find the file you just saved.

How to get around this? Simple - use a 64bit text editor, such as the normal notepad that ships with windows.

How to get Toolbar from fragment?

I did it by using these steps.

  1. Set Title using below code in onCreateView of the main fragment.
((AppCompatActivity) getActivity()).getSupportActionBar().setTitle("Your title");

  1. For swapping between fragments i'm using bottom navigation bar which is implemented on MainActivity (Parent Activity) of the fragment. Even if you are using any button or menu item then you can change the title from onSelectedItemClickListener, just like i did in my case.
    public boolean onNavigationItemSelected(@NonNull MenuItem menuItem) {
        switch (menuItem.getItemId()){
            case R.id.menu_dashboard:
                getSupportActionBar().setTitle("Dashboard");
                fm.beginTransaction().hide(active).show(dashboardFragment).commit();
                active = dashboardFragment;
                return true;
            case R.id.menu_workshop:
                getSupportActionBar().setTitle("Workshops");
                fm.beginTransaction().hide(active).show(workshopFragment).commit();
                active = workshopFragment;
                return true;
         }
         return false;
    }

How to make div fixed after you scroll to that div?

I know this is tagged html/css only, but you can't do that with css only. Easiest way will be using some jQuery.

var fixmeTop = $('.fixme').offset().top; // get initial position of the element

$(window).scroll(function() {                  // assign scroll event listener

    var currentScroll = $(window).scrollTop(); // get current position

    if (currentScroll >= fixmeTop) { // apply position: fixed if you
        $('.fixme').css({ // scroll to that element or below it
            position: 'fixed',
            top: '0',
            left: '0'
        });
    } else {                                   // apply position: static
        $('.fixme').css({ // if you scroll above it
            position: 'static'
        });
    }

});

Where do I find the Instagram media ID of a image

You can use the shortcode media API from instagram. If you use php you can use the following code to get the shortcode from the image's URL:

$matches = [];

preg_match('/instagram\.com\/p\/([^\/]*)/i', $url, $matches);

if (count($matches) > 1) {
    $shortcode = $matches[1];
}

Then send a request to the API using your access token (Replace ACCESS-TOKEN with your token)

$apiUrl = sprintf("https://api.instagram.com/v1/media/shortcode/%s?access_token=ACCESS-TOKEN", $shortcode);

How do you add an ActionListener onto a JButton in Java

How can I use threading in Python?

I saw a lot of examples here where no real work was being performed, and they were mostly CPU-bound. Here is an example of a CPU-bound task that computes all prime numbers between 10 million and 10.05 million. I have used all four methods here:

PHP simple foreach loop with HTML

This will work although when embedding PHP in HTML it is better practice to use the following form:

<table>
    <?php foreach($array as $key=>$value): ?>
    <tr>
        <td><?= $key; ?></td>
    </tr>
    <?php endforeach; ?>

How to find the lowest common ancestor of two nodes in any binary tree?

Here is the C++ way of doing it. Have tried to keep the algorithm as much easy as possible to understand:

// Assuming that `BinaryNode_t` has `getData()`, `getLeft()` and `getRight()`
class LowestCommonAncestor
{
  typedef char type;
  // Data members which would behave as place holders
  const BinaryNode_t* m_pLCA;
  type m_Node1, m_Node2;

  static const unsigned int TOTAL_NODES = 2;

  // The core function which actually finds the LCA; It returns the number of nodes found
  // At any point of time if the number of nodes found are 2, then it updates the `m_pLCA` and once updated, we have found it!
  unsigned int Search (const BinaryNode_t* const pNode)
  {
    if(pNode == 0)
      return 0;

    unsigned int found = 0;

    found += (pNode->getData() == m_Node1);
    found += (pNode->getData() == m_Node2);

    found += Search(pNode->getLeft()); // below condition can be after this as well
    found += Search(pNode->getRight());

    if(found == TOTAL_NODES && m_pLCA == 0)
      m_pLCA = pNode;  // found !

    return found;
  }

public:
  // Interface method which will be called externally by the client
  const BinaryNode_t* Search (const BinaryNode_t* const pHead,
                              const type node1,
                              const type node2)
  {
    // Initialize the data members of the class
    m_Node1 = node1;
    m_Node2 = node2;
    m_pLCA = 0;

    // Find the LCA, populate to `m_pLCANode` and return
    (void) Search(pHead);
    return m_pLCA;
  }
};

How to use it:

LowestCommonAncestor lca;
BinaryNode_t* pNode = lca.Search(pWhateverBinaryTreeNodeToBeginWith);
if(pNode != 0)

How can I change the value of the elements in a vector?

Just use:

for (int i = 0; i < v.size(); i++)
{
    v[i] -= valueToSubstract;
}

Or its equivalent (and more readable?):

for (int i = 0; i < v.size(); i++)
    v[i] = v[i] - valueToSubstract;

Color text in discord

Discord doesn't allow colored text. Though, currently, you have two options to "mimic" colored text.

Option #1 (Markdown code-blocks)

Discord supports Markdown and uses highlight.js to highlight code-blocks. Some programming languages have specific color outputs from highlight.js and can be used to mimic colored output.

To use code-blocks, send a normal message in this format (Which follows Markdown's standard format).

```language
message
```

Languages that currently reproduce nice colors: prolog (red/orange), css (yellow).

Option #2 (Embeds)

Discord now supports Embeds and Webhooks, which can be used to display colored blocks, they also support markdown. For documentation on how to use Embeds, please read your lib's documentation.

UNIX nonblocking I/O: O_NONBLOCK vs. FIONBIO

Here is a list of POSIX io. ioctl() is a very kernel/driver/OS specific thing, but i am sure what you use works on most flavors of Unix. some other ioctl() stuff might only work on certain OS or even certain revs of it's kernel.

Does Go have "if x in" construct similar to Python?

This is as close as I can get to the natural feel of Python's "in" operator. You have to define your own type. Then you can extend the functionality of that type by adding a method like "has" which behaves like you'd hope.

package main

import "fmt"

type StrSlice []string

func (list StrSlice) Has(a string) bool {
    for _, b := range list {
        if b == a {
            return true
        }
    }
    return false
}

func main() {
    var testList = StrSlice{"The", "big", "dog", "has", "fleas"}

    if testList.Has("dog") {
        fmt.Println("Yay!")
    }
}

I have a utility library where I define a few common things like this for several types of slices, like those containing integers or my own other structs.

Yes, it runs in linear time, but that's not the point. The point is to ask and learn what common language constructs Go has and doesn't have. It's a good exercise. Whether this answer is silly or useful is up to the reader.

What does the following Oracle error mean: invalid column index

I also got this type error, problem is wrong usage of parameters to statement like, Let's say you have a query like this

SELECT * FROM EMPLOYE E WHERE E.ID = ?

and for the preparedStatement object (JDBC) if you set the parameters like

preparedStatement.setXXX(1,value);
preparedStatement.setXXX(2,value)

then it results in SQLException: Invalid column index

So, I removed that second parameter setting to prepared statement then problem solved

How to download excel (.xls) file from API in postman?

Try selecting send and download instead of send when you make the request. (the blue button)

https://www.getpostman.com/docs/responses

"For binary response types, you should select Send and download which will let you save the response to your hard disk. You can then view it using the appropriate viewer."

Converting .NET DateTime to JSON

the conversion from 1970,1,1 needs the double rounded to zero decimal places i thinks

DateTime d1 = new DateTime(1970, 1, 1);
DateTime d2 = dt.ToUniversalTime();
TimeSpan ts = new TimeSpan(d2.Ticks - d1.Ticks);
return Math.Round( ts.TotalMilliseconds,0);

on the client side i use

new Date(+data.replace(/\D/g, ''));

How do I handle the window close event in Tkinter?

How to open a new tab in GNOME Terminal from command line?

To bring together a number of different points above, here's a script that will run any arguments passed to the script vim new_tab.sh:

#!/bin/bash
#
# Dependencies:
#   sudo apt install xdotool

WID=$(xprop -root | grep "_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW(WINDOW)"| awk '{print $5}')
xdotool windowfocus $WID
xdotool key ctrl+shift+t
wmctrl -i -a $WID
sleep 1; xdotool type --delay 1 --clearmodifiers "$@"; xdotool key Return;

Next make it executable: chmod +x new_tab.sh

Now you can use it to run whatever you'd like in a new tab: ./new_tab.sh "watch ls -l"

Load HTML File Contents to Div [without the use of iframes]

I'd suggest getting into one of the JS libraries out there. They ensure compatibility so you can get up and running really fast. jQuery and DOJO are both really great. To do what you're trying to do in jQuery, for example, it would go something like this:

<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">
$.ajax({
    url: "x.html",
    context: document.body,
    success: function(response) {
        $("#yourDiv").html(response);
    }
});
</script>

python socket.error: [Errno 98] Address already in use

There is obviously another process listening on the port. You might find out that process by using the following command:

$ lsof -i :8000

or change your tornado app's port. tornado's error info not Explicitly on this.

How to change value of ArrayList element in java

I think the problem is that you think the statement ...

x = Integer.valueOf(9);

... causes that the value of '9' get 'stored' into(!) the Object on which x is referencing.

But thats wrong.

Instead the statement causes something similar as if you would call

x = new Integer(9);

If you have a look to the java source code, you will see what happens in Detail.

Here is the code of the "valueOf(int i)" method in the "Integer" class:

public static Integer valueOf(int i) {
    assert IntegerCache.high >= 127;
    if (i >= IntegerCache.low && i <= IntegerCache.high)
        return IntegerCache.cache[i + (-IntegerCache.low)];
    return new Integer(i);
}

and further, whenever the IntegerCache class is used for the first time the following script gets invoked:

static {
        // high value may be configured by property
        int h = 127;
        String integerCacheHighPropValue =
            sun.misc.VM.getSavedProperty("java.lang.Integer.IntegerCache.high");
        if (integerCacheHighPropValue != null) {
            int i = parseInt(integerCacheHighPropValue);
            i = Math.max(i, 127);
            // Maximum array size is Integer.MAX_VALUE
            h = Math.min(i, Integer.MAX_VALUE - (-low) -1);
        }
        high = h;

        cache = new Integer[(high - low) + 1];
        int j = low;
        for(int k = 0; k < cache.length; k++)
            cache[k] = new Integer(j++);
    }

You see that either a new Integer Object is created with "new Integer(i)" in the valueOf method ... ... or a reference to a Integer Object which is stored in the IntegerCache is returned.

In both cases x will reference to a new Object.

And this is why the reference to the Object in your list get lost when you call ...

x = Integer.valueOf(9);

Instead of doing so, in combination with a ListIterator use ...

i.set(Integer.valueOf(9));

... after you got the element you want to change with ...

i.next();

Move UIView up when the keyboard appears in iOS

Declare a delegate, assign your text field to the delegate and then include these methods.

Assuming you have a login form with email and password text fields, this code will fit perfectly:

-(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event {

    [self.emailTextField resignFirstResponder];
    [self.passwordTextField resignFirstResponder];

}

- (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField {

    if (self.emailTextField == textField) {
        [self.passwordTextField becomeFirstResponder];
    } else {
        [self.emailTextField resignFirstResponder];
        [self.passwordTextField resignFirstResponder];
    }
    return NO;
}
- (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated {
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(keyboardWillShow:) name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil];
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(keyboardWillHide:) name:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:nil];
}

- (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated {
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil];
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:nil];
}

#pragma mark - keyboard movements
- (void)keyboardWillShow:(NSNotification *)notification
{
    CGSize keyboardSize = [[[notification userInfo] objectForKey:UIKeyboardFrameBeginUserInfoKey] CGRectValue].size;

    [UIView animateWithDuration:0.3 animations:^{
        CGRect f = self.view.frame;
        f.origin.y = -0.5f * keyboardSize.height;
        self.view.frame = f;
    }];
}

-(void)keyboardWillHide:(NSNotification *)notification
{
    [UIView animateWithDuration:0.3 animations:^{
        CGRect f = self.view.frame;
        f.origin.y = 0.0f;
        self.view.frame = f;
    }];
