Requery a subform from another form?

I had a similar kind of issue, but with some differences...

In my case, my main form has a Control (vendor) which value I used to update a Query in my DB, using the following code:

Sub Set_Qry_PedidosRealizadosImportados_frm(Vd As Long)
Dim temp_qry As DAO.QueryDef

'Procedimento para ajustar o codigo do cliente na Qry_Pedidos realizados e importados
'Procedure to adjust the code of the client on Qry_Pedidos realizados e importados
Set temp_qry = CurrentDb.QueryDefs("Qry_Pedidos realizados e importados")
temp_qry.SQL = "SELECT DISTINCT " & _
            "[Qry_Pedidos distintos].[Codigo], " & _
            "[Qry_Pedidos distintos].[Razao social], " & _
            "COUNT([Qry_Pedidos distintos].[Pedido Avante]) As [Pedidos realizados], " & _
            "SUM(IIf(NZ([Qry_Pedidos distintos].[Pedido Flexx], 0) > 1, 1, 0)) As [Pedidos Importados] " & _
            "FROM [Qry_Pedidos distintos] " & _
            "WHERE [Qry_Pedidos distintos].Vd = " & Vd & _
            " Group BY " & _
            "[Qry_Pedidos distintos].[Razao social], " & _
            "[Qry_Pedidos distintos].[Codigo];"
End Sub

Since the beginning my subform record source was the query named "Qry_Pedidos realizados e importados".

But the only way I could update the subform data inside the main form context was to refresh the data source of the subform to it self, like posted bellow:

Private Sub cmb_vendedor_v1_Exit(Cancel As Integer)
'Codigo para atualizar o comando SQL da query
'Code to update the SQL statement of the query
    Call Set_Qry_Pedidosrealizadosimportados_frm(Me.cmb_vendedor_v1.Value)

'Codigo para forçar o Access a aceitar o novo comando SQL
'Code to force de Access to accept the new sql statement
    Me!Frm_Pedidos_realizados_importados.Form.RecordSource = "Qry_Pedidos realizados e importados"
End Sub

No refresh, recalc, requery, etc, was necessary after all...

Can you nest html forms?

Today, I also got stuck in same issue, and resolve the issue I have added a user control and
on this control I use this code

<div class="divformTagEx">

</div>

<asp:Literal runat="server" ID="litFormTag" Visible="false">
'<div> <form  style="margin-bottom: 3;" action="http://login.php" method="post" name="testformtag"></form> </div>'</asp:Literal>

and on PreRenderComplete event of the page call this method

private void InitializeJavaScript()
{
        var script = new StringBuilder();
        script.Append("$(document).ready(function () {");
        script.Append("$('.divformTagEx').append( ");
        script.Append(litFormTag.Text);
        script.Append(" )");
        script.Append(" });");
        ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, GetType(), "nestedFormTagEx", script.ToString(), true);
    }

I believe this will help.

Can a website detect when you are using Selenium with chromedriver?

One more thing I found is that some websites uses a platform that checks the User Agent. If the value contains: "HeadlessChrome" the behavior can be weird when using headless mode.

The workaround for that will be to override the user agent value, for example in Java:

chromeOptions.addArguments("--user-agent=Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/73.0.3683.86 Safari/537.36");

How to obtain the chat_id of a private Telegram channel?

Found the solution for TelegramBotApi for python. Maybe will work for other languages.

I just add my bot to private channel and then do this:

In the console I get response with all info that I need.

How to upload files on server folder using jsp

You cannot upload like this.

http://grand-shopping.com/<"some folder">

You need a physical path exactly like in your local

C:/Users/puneet verma/Downloads/

What you can do is create some local path where your server is working. Hence you can store and retrieve the file. If you bought some domain from any websites there will be path to upload the files. You create these variable as static constant and use it based on the server you are working (Local/Website).

How to return a custom object from a Spring Data JPA GROUP BY query

Using interfaces you can get simpler code. No need to create and manually call constructors

Step 1: Declare intefrace with the required fields:

public interface SurveyAnswerStatistics {

  String getAnswer();
  Long getCnt();

}

Step 2: Select columns with same name as getter in interface and return intefrace from repository method:

public interface SurveyRepository extends CrudRepository<Survey, Long> {

    @Query("select v.answer as answer, count(v) as cnt " +
           "from Survey v " +
           "group by v.answer")
    List<SurveyAnswerStatistics> findSurveyCount();

}

Get value from input (AngularJS)

If you want to get values in Javascript on frontend, you can use the native way to do it by using :

document.getElementsByName("movie")[0].value;

Where "movie" is the name of your input <input type="text" name="movie">

If you want to get it on angular.js controller, you can use;

$scope.movie

How to find rows in one table that have no corresponding row in another table

I can't tell you which of these methods will be best on H2 (or even if all of them will work), but I did write an article detailing all of the (good) methods available in TSQL. You can give them a shot and see if any of them works for you:

URL Encoding using C#

Url Encoding is easy in .NET. Use:

System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlEncode(string url)

If that'll be decoded to get the folder name, you'll still need to exclude characters that can't be used in folder names (*, ?, /, etc.)

How to write into a file in PHP?

fwrite() is a smidgen faster and file_put_contents() is just a wrapper around those three methods anyway, so you would lose the overhead. Article

file_put_contents(file,data,mode,context):

The file_put_contents writes a string to a file.

This function follows these rules when accessing a file.If FILE_USE_INCLUDE_PATH is set, check the include path for a copy of filename Create the file if it does not exist then Open the file and Lock the file if LOCK_EX is set and If FILE_APPEND is set, move to the end of the file. Otherwise, clear the file content Write the data into the file and Close the file and release any locks. This function returns the number of the character written into the file on success, or FALSE on failure.

fwrite(file,string,length):

The fwrite writes to an open file.The function will stop at the end of the file or when it reaches the specified length, whichever comes first.This function returns the number of bytes written or FALSE on failure.

Required attribute on multiple checkboxes with the same name?

Here is improvement for icova's answer. It also groups inputs by name.

$(function(){
  var allRequiredCheckboxes = $(':checkbox[required]');
  var checkboxNames = [];

  for (var i = 0; i < allRequiredCheckboxes.length; ++i){
    var name = allRequiredCheckboxes[i].name;
    checkboxNames.push(name);
  }

  checkboxNames = checkboxNames.reduce(function(p, c) {
    if (p.indexOf(c) < 0) p.push(c);
    return p;
  }, []);

  for (var i in checkboxNames){
    !function(){
      var name = checkboxNames[i];
      var checkboxes = $('input[name="' + name + '"]');
      checkboxes.change(function(){
        if(checkboxes.is(':checked')) {
          checkboxes.removeAttr('required');
        } else {
          checkboxes.attr('required', 'required');

No provider for Router?

I have also received this error when developing automatic tests for components. In this context the following import should be done:

Bootstrap 3 dropdown select

If you want to achieve this just keep you dropdown button and style it like the select box. The code is here and below.

.btn {
    cursor: default;
    background-color: #FFF;
    border-radius: 4px;
    text-align: left;
}

.caret {
    position: absolute;
    right: 16px;
    top: 16px;
}

.btn-default:hover, .btn-default:focus, .btn-default:active, .btn-default.active, .open .dropdown-toggle.btn-default {
    background-color: #FFF;
}

.btn-group.open .dropdown-toggle {
    box-shadow: 0 1px 1px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.075) inset, 0 0 8px rgba(102, 175, 233, 0.6)
}

.btn-group {width: 100%}
.dropdown-menu {width: 100%;}

To make the button work like a select box, all you need to add is this tiny javascript code:

$('.dropdown-menu a').on('click', function(){
    $('.dropdown-toggle').html($(this).html() + '<span class="caret"></span>');
})

If you have multiple custom dropdowns like this you can use this javascript code:

$('.dropdown-menu a').on('click', function(){
    $(this).parent().parent().prev().html($(this).html() + '<span class="caret"></span>');
})

Could not find default endpoint element

Allow me to add one more thing to look for. (Tom Haigh's answer already alludes to it, but I want to be explicit)

My web.config file had the following defined:

<protocolMapping>
    <add binding="basicHttpsBinding" scheme="https" />
</protocolMapping>

I was already using basicHttpsBinding for one reference, but then I added a new reference which required basicHttpBinding (no s). All I had to do was add that to my protocolMapping as follows:

<protocolMapping>
    <add binding="basicHttpBinding" scheme="http" />
    <add binding="basicHttpsBinding" scheme="https" />
</protocolMapping>

As L.R. correctly points out, this needs to be defined in the right places. For me, that meant one in my Unit Test project's app.config as well as one in the main service project's web.config.

Quickly create large file on a Windows system

You can use the cat powershell command.

First create a simple text file with a few characters. The more initial chars you enter, the quicker it becomes larger. Let's call it out.txt. Then in Powershell:

cat out.txt >> out.txt

Wait as long as it's necessary to make the file big enough. Then hit ctrl-c to end it.

.net Core 2.0 - Package was restored using .NetFramework 4.6.1 instead of target framework .netCore 2.0. The package may not be fully compatible

For me, I had ~6 different Nuget packages to update and when I selected Microsoft.AspNetCore.All first, I got the referenced error.

I started at the bottom and updated others first (EF Core, EF Design Tools, etc), then when the only one that was left was Microsoft.AspNetCore.All it worked fine.

How do I remove quotes from a string?

str_replace('"', "", $string);
str_replace("'", "", $string);

I assume you mean quotation marks?

Otherwise, go for some regex, this will work for html quotes for example:

preg_replace("/<!--.*?-->/", "", $string);

C-style quotes:

preg_replace("/\/\/.*?\n/", "\n", $string);

CSS-style quotes:

preg_replace("/\/*.*?\*\//", "", $string);

bash-style quotes:

preg-replace("/#.*?\n/", "\n", $string);

Etc etc...

How to speed up insertion performance in PostgreSQL

In addition to excellent Craig Ringer's post and depesz's blog post, if you would like to speed up your inserts through ODBC (psqlodbc) interface by using prepared-statement inserts inside a transaction, there are a few extra things you need to do to make it work fast:

  1. Set the level-of-rollback-on-errors to "Transaction" by specifying Protocol=-1 in the connection string. By default psqlodbc uses "Statement" level, which creates a SAVEPOINT for each statement rather than an entire transaction, making inserts slower.
  2. Use server-side prepared statements by specifying UseServerSidePrepare=1 in the connection string. Without this option the client sends the entire insert statement along with each row being inserted.
  3. Disable auto-commit on each statement using SQLSetConnectAttr(conn, SQL_ATTR_AUTOCOMMIT, reinterpret_cast<SQLPOINTER>(SQL_AUTOCOMMIT_OFF), 0);
  4. Once all rows have been inserted, commit the transaction using SQLEndTran(SQL_HANDLE_DBC, conn, SQL_COMMIT);. There is no need to explicitly open a transaction.

Unfortunately, psqlodbc "implements" SQLBulkOperations by issuing a series of unprepared insert statements, so that to achieve the fastest insert one needs to code up the above steps manually.

How can I list all the deleted files in a Git repository?

git log --diff-filter=D --summary

See Find and restore a deleted file in a Git repository

If you don't want all the information about which commit they were removed in, you can just add a grep delete in there.

Oracle SQL allows us to ignore the case of database object names provided we either create them with names all in upper case, or without using double quotes. If we use mixed case or lower case in the script and wrapped the identifiers in double quotes we are condemned to using double quotes and the precise case whenever we refer to the object or its attributes:

SQL> select count(*) from PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS
  2  where Department_Code = 'BAH'
  3  /
where Department_Code = 'BAH'

tl;dr

don't use double quotes in DDL scripts

(I know most third party code generators do, but they are disciplined enough to put all their object names in UPPER CASE.)

The reverse is also true. If we create the table without using double-quotes …

create table PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS
( company_code VARCHAR2(255),
  company_name VARCHAR2(255),
  Cost_Center_Number VARCHAR2(255))
;

… we can reference it and its columns in whatever case takes our fancy:

select * from ps_tbl_department_details

… or

select * from PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS;

… or

select * from PS_Tbl_Department_Details
where COMAPNY_CODE = 'ORCL'
and cost_center_number = '0980'

Filtering a list of strings based on contents

This simple filtering can be achieved in many ways with Python. The best approach is to use "list comprehensions" as follows:

>>> lst = ['a', 'ab', 'abc', 'bac']
>>> [k for k in lst if 'ab' in k]
['ab', 'abc']

Another way is to use the filter function. In Python 2:

>>> filter(lambda k: 'ab' in k, lst)
['ab', 'abc']

In Python 3, it returns an iterator instead of a list, but you can cast it:

>>> list(filter(lambda k: 'ab' in k, lst))
['ab', 'abc']

Though it's better practice to use a comprehension.

Regular expression which matches a pattern, or is an empty string

To match pattern or an empty string, use

^$|pattern

Explanation

  • ^ and $ are the beginning and end of the string anchors respectively.
  • | is used to denote alternates, e.g. this|that.

On \b

\b in most flavor is a "word boundary" anchor. It is a zero-width match, i.e. an empty string, but it only matches those strings at very specific places, namely at the boundaries of a word.

That is, \b is located:

  • Between consecutive \w and \W (either order):
    • i.e. between a word character and a non-word character
  • Between ^ and \w
    • i.e. at the beginning of the string if it starts with \w
  • Between \w and $
    • i.e. at the end of the string if it ends with \w

Java: How to set Precision for double value?

Maybe this method would help you for precising double values.

double truncate(double number)
    {
        int integerPart = (int) number;
        double fractionalPart = number - integerPart;
        fractionalPart *= 100; //It is for upto two decimal values after point.
                                //You can increase the zeros to fulfill your needs.

        fractionalPart = (double) (integerPart) + (double) (fractPart)/100;
        return fractionalPart;

    int integerPart = (int) number;
    double fractionalPart = number - integerPart;

I just asked the same question here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/23062370/3532136 It has a good solution. I hope it helps ^^. In resume, you can use this:

The Json file in my case was called jsonfile.json:

    "CARD_MODEL_SUBTITLE": "Configure your download",
    "CARD_MODEL_SELECT": "Select Model",

Composer: how can I install another dependency without updating old ones?

My use case is simpler, and fits simply your title but not your further detail.

That is, I want to install a new package which is not yet in my composer.json without updating all the other packages.

The solution here is composer require x/y

Reason: no suitable image found

In my case ,the keychain is showing the certificate as untrusted ,to solve this problem I have set the trust options of certificate as "Always trust". Setting the certificate to "Always trust" was the main cause of the crash. I was not able to install the application into device. Solved this by setting trust option to "System defaults" instead of "Always trust" .It worked for me.

Java8: sum values from specific field of the objects in a list

You can also collect with an appropriate summing collector like Collectors#summingInt(ToIntFunction)

Returns a Collector that produces the sum of a integer-valued function applied to the input elements. If no elements are present, the result is 0.

For example

Stream<Obj> filtered = list.stream().filter(o -> o.field > 10);
int sum = filtered.collect(Collectors.summingInt(o -> o.field));

CSS 100% height with padding/margin

According the w3c spec height refers to the height of the viewable area e.g. on a 1280x1024 pixel resolution monitor 100% height = 1024 pixels.

min-height refers to the total height of the page including content so on a page where the content is bigger than 1024px min-height:100% will stretch to include all of the content.

The other problem then is that padding and border are added to the height and width in most modern browsers except ie6(ie6 is actually quite logical but does not conform to the spec). This is called the box model. So if you specify

min-height: 100%;
padding: 5px;

It will actually give you 100% + 5px + 5px for the height. To get around this you need a wrapper container.

<style>
    .FullHeight {
       height: auto !important; /* ie 6 will ignore this */
       height: 100%;            /* ie 6 will use this instead of min-height */
       min-height: 100%;        /* ie 6 will ignore this */
    }

    .Padded {
       padding: 5px;
    }
</style>

<div class="FullHeight">
   <div class="Padded">
      Hello i am padded.
   </div
</div>

Vagrant stuck connection timeout retrying

There are many good answers here, and I couldn't read it all, but, I just came by to gave my little contribution too. I had 2 different problems:

  1. vagrant up wasn't able to find my ssh 'id_rsa' (because I didn't have it yet, at that time): I ran ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C "[email protected]", based on this GitHub's article, and voilá, steped through that;

  2. Then, I got the same problem of this question "Warning: Connection timed out. Retrying...", eternally...: So, after reading a lot, I've restarted my system and looked at my BIOS (F2 to get there, on PC), and there were Virtualization disabled. I've enabled that, saved, and started the system once again, to check if it has changed anything.

After that, vagrant up worked like a charm! It's 4am but it is running! How cool, hã? :D As I know there are very few masochist developers like me, that would try this at Windows, specially at Windows 10, I just couldn't not to forget coming here and left my word... another important information, is that, I was trying to set-up Laravel 5, using Homestead, VirtualBox, composer etc. It has worked. So, hope this answer helps like this question and answers helped me. My best wishes. G-bye!

How to concatenate strings in django templates?

Have a look at the add filter.

Edit: You can chain filters, so you could do "shop/"|add:shop_name|add:"/base.html". But that won't work because it is up to the template tag to evaluate filters in arguments, and extends doesn't.

I guess you can't do this within templates.

Browser/HTML Force download of image from src="data:image/jpeg;base64..."

I guess an img tag is needed as a child of an a tag, the following way:

<a download="YourFileName.jpeg" href="data:image/jpeg;base64,iVBO...CYII=">
    <img src="data:image/jpeg;base64,iVBO...CYII="></img>
</a>

or

<a download="YourFileName.jpeg" href="/path/to/OtherFile.jpg">
    <img src="/path/to/OtherFile.jpg"></img>
</a>

Only using the a tag as explained in #15 didn't worked for me with the latest version of Firefox and Chrome, but putting the same image data in both a.href and img.src tags worked for me.

From JavaScript it could be generated like this:

var data = canvas.toDataURL("image/jpeg");

var img = document.createElement('img');
img.src = data;

var a = document.createElement('a');
a.setAttribute("download", "YourFileName.jpeg");
a.setAttribute("href", data);
a.appendChild(img);

var w = open();
w.document.title = 'Export Image';

ImportError: No module named MySQLdb

So I spent about 5 hours trying to figure out how to deal with this issue when trying to run

./manage.py makemigrations

With Ubuntu Server LTS 16.1, a full LAMP stack, Apache2 MySql 5.7 PHP 7 Python 3 and Django 1.10.2 I really struggled to find a good answer to this. In fact, I am still not satisfied, but the ONLY solution that worked for me is this...

sudo apt-get install build-essential python-dev libapache2-mod-wsgi-py3 libmysqlclient-dev

followed by (from inside the virtual environment)

pip install mysqlclient

I really dislike having to use dev installs when I am trying to set up a new web server, but unfortunately this configuration was the only mostly comfortable path I could take.

Submit button not working in Bootstrap form

The .btn classes are designed for , or elements (though some browsers may apply a slightly different rendering).

If you’re using .btn classes on elements that are used to trigger functionality ex. collapsing content, these links should be given a role="button" to adequately communicate their meaning to assistive technologies such as screen readers. I hope this help.

How to remove an element from an array in Swift

The let keyword is for declaring constants that can't be changed. If you want to modify a variable you should use var instead, e.g:

var animals = ["cats", "dogs", "chimps", "moose"]

animals.remove(at: 2)  //["cats", "dogs", "moose"]

A non-mutating alternative that will keep the original collection unchanged is to use filter to create a new collection without the elements you want removed, e.g:

let pets = animals.filter { $0 != "chimps" }

"error: assignment to expression with array type error" when I assign a struct field (C)

typedef struct{
     char name[30];
     char surname[30];
     int age;
} data;

defines that data should be a block of memory that fits 60 chars plus 4 for the int (see note)

[----------------------------,------------------------------,----]
 ^ this is name ^ this is surname ^ this is age

This allocates the memory on the stack.

data s1;

Assignments just copies numbers, sometimes pointers.

This fails

s1.name = "Paulo";

because the compiler knows that s1.name is the start of a struct 64 bytes long, and "Paulo" is a char[] 6 bytes long (6 because of the trailing \0 in C strings)
Thus, trying to assign a pointer to a string into a string.

To copy "Paulo" into the struct at the point name and "Rossi" into the struct at point surname.

memcpy(s1.name,    "Paulo", 6);
memcpy(s1.surname, "Rossi", 6);
s1.age = 1;

You end up with

[Paulo0----------------------,Rossi0-------------------------,0001]

strcpy does the same thing but it knows about \0 termination so does not need the length hardcoded.

Alternatively you can define a struct which points to char arrays of any length.

typedef struct {
  char *name;
  char *surname;
  int age;
} data;

This will create

[----,----,----]

This will now work because you are filling the struct with pointers.

s1.name = "Paulo";
s1.surname = "Rossi";
s1.age = 1;

Something like this

[---4,--10,---1]

Where 4 and 10 are pointers.

Note: the ints and pointers can be different sizes, the sizes 4 above are 32bit as an example.

How to get a pixel's x,y coordinate color from an image?

Canvas would be a great way to do this, as @pst said above. Check out this answer for a good example:

getPixel from HTML Canvas?

Some code that would serve you specifically as well:

var imgd = context.getImageData(x, y, width, height);
var pix = imgd.data;

for (var i = 0, n = pix.length; i < n; i += 4) {
  console.log pix[i+3]
}

This will go row by row, so you'd need to convert that into an x,y and either convert the for loop to a direct check or run a conditional inside.

Reading your question again, it looks like you want to be able to get the point that the person clicks on. This can be done pretty easily with jquery's click event. Just run the above code inside a click handler as such:

$('el').click(function(e){
   console.log(e.clientX, e.clientY)
}

Those should grab your x and y values.

Using NSPredicate to filter an NSArray based on NSDictionary keys

It should work - as long as the data variable is actually an array containing a dictionary with the key SPORT

NSArray *data = [NSArray arrayWithObject:[NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObject:@"foo" forKey:@"BAR"]];
NSArray *filtered = [data filteredArrayUsingPredicate:[NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(BAR == %@)", @"foo"]];

Filtered in this case contains the dictionary.

(the %@ does not have to be quoted, this is done when NSPredicate creates the object.)

How does Facebook Sharer select Images and other metadata when sharing my URL?

Old way, no longer works:

<link rel="image_src" href="http://yoururl/yourimage"/>

Reported new way, also does not work:

<meta property="og:image" content="http://yoururl/yourimage"/>

It randomly worked off and on during the first day I implemented it, hasn't worked at all since.

The Facebook linter page, a utility that inspects your page, reports that everything is correct and does display the thumbnail I selected... just that the share.php page itself doesn't seem to be functioning. Has to be a bug over at Facebook, one they apparently don't care to fix as every bug report regarding this issue I've seen in their system all say resolved or fixed.

MongoDB: Is it possible to make a case-insensitive query?

Starting with MongoDB 3.4, the recommended way to perform fast case-insensitive searches is to use a Case Insensitive Index.

I personally emailed one of the founders to please get this working, and he made it happen! It was an issue on JIRA since 2009, and many have requested the feature. Here's how it works:

A case-insensitive index is made by specifying a collation with a strength of either 1 or 2. You can create a case-insensitive index like this:

db.cities.createIndex(
  { city: 1 },
  {
    collation: {
      locale: 'en',
      strength: 2
    }
  }
);

You can also specify a default collation per collection when you create them:

db.createCollection('cities', { collation: { locale: 'en', strength: 2 } } );

In either case, in order to use the case-insensitive index, you need to specify the same collation in the find operation that was used when creating the index or the collection:

db.cities.find(
  { city: 'new york' }
).collation(
  { locale: 'en', strength: 2 }
);

This will return "New York", "new york", "New york" etc.

Other notes

  • The answers suggesting to use full-text search are wrong in this case (and potentially dangerous). The question was about making a case-insensitive query, e.g. username: 'bill' matching BILL or Bill, not a full-text search query, which would also match stemmed words of bill, such as Bills, billed etc.

  • The answers suggesting to use regular expressions are slow, because even with indexes, the documentation states:

    "Case insensitive regular expression queries generally cannot use indexes effectively. The $regex implementation is not collation-aware and is unable to utilize case-insensitive indexes."

    $regex answers also run the risk of user input injection.

How to display images from a folder using php - PHP

You had a mistake on the statement below. Use . not ,

echo '<img src="', $dir, '/', $file, '" alt="', $file, $

to

echo '<img src="'. $dir. '/'. $file. '" alt="'. $file. $

and

echo 'Directory \'', $dir, '\' not found!';

to

echo 'Directory \''. $dir. '\' not found!';

How to make google spreadsheet refresh itself every 1 minute?

If you are only looking for a refresh rate for the GOOGLEFINANCE function, keep in mind that data delays can be up to 20 minutes (per Google Finance Disclaimer).

Single-symbol refresh rate (using GoogleClock)

Here is a modified version of the refresh action, taking the data delay into consideration, to save on unproductive refresh cycles.

=GoogleClock(GOOGLEFINANCE(symbol,"datadelay"))

For example, with:

  • SYMBOL: GOOG
  • DATA DELAY: 15 (minutes)

then

=GoogleClock(GOOGLEFINANCE("GOOG","datadelay"))

Results in a dynamic data-based refresh rate of:

=GoogleClock(15)

Multi-symbol refresh rate (using GoogleClock)

If your sheet contains a number of rows of symbols, you could add a datadelay column for each symbol and use the lowest value, for example:

=GoogleClock(MIN(dataDelayValuesNamedRange))

Where dataDelayValuesNamedRange is the absolute reference or named reference of the range of cells that contain the data delay values for each symbol (assuming these values are different).

Without GoogleClock()

The GoogleClock() function was removed in 2014 and replaced with settings setup for refreshing sheets. At present, I have confirmed that replacement settings is only on available in Sheets from when accessed from a desktop browser, not the mobile app (I'm using Google's mobile Sheets app updated 2016-03-14).

(This part of the answer is based on, and portions copied from, Google Docs Help)

To change how often "some" Google Sheets functions update:

  1. Open a spreadsheet. Click File > Spreadsheet settings.
  2. In the RECALCULATION section, choose a setting from the drop-down menu.
  3. Setting options are:
    • On change
    • On change and every minute
    • On change and every hour
  4. Click SAVE SETTINGS.

NOTE External data functions recalculate at the following intervals:

  • ImportRange: 30 minutes
  • ImportHtml, ImportFeed, ImportData, ImportXml: 1 hour
  • GoogleFinance: 2 minutes

The references in earlier sections to the display and use of the datadelay attribute still apply, as well as the concepts for more efficient coding of sheets.

On a positive note, the new refresh option continues to be refreshed by Google servers regardless of whether you have the sheet loaded or not. That's a positive for shared sheets for sure; even more so for Google Apps Scripts (GAS), where GAS is used in workflow code or referenced data is used as a trigger for an event.

How to get response status code from jQuery.ajax?

Came across this old thread searching for a similar solution myself and found the accepted answer to be using .complete() method of jquery ajax. I quote the notice on jquery website here:

The jqXHR.success(), jqXHR.error(), and jqXHR.complete() callbacks are deprecated as of jQuery 1.8. To prepare your code for their eventual removal, use jqXHR.done(), jqXHR.fail(), and jqXHR.always() instead.

To know the status code of a ajax response, one can use the following code:

$.ajax( url [, settings ] )
.always(function (jqXHR) {
    console.log(jqXHR.status);
});

Works similarily for .done() and .fail()

How to add property to a class dynamically?

This is a little different than what OP wanted, but I rattled my brain until I got a working solution, so I'm putting here for the next guy/gal

I needed a way to specify dynamic setters and getters.

class X:
    def __init__(self, a=0, b=0, c=0):
        self.a = a
        self.b = b
        self.c = c

    @classmethod
    def _make_properties(cls, field_name, inc):
        _inc = inc

        def _get_properties(self):
            if not hasattr(self, '_%s_inc' % field_name):
                setattr(self, '_%s_inc' % field_name, _inc)
                inc = _inc
            else:
                inc = getattr(self, '_%s_inc' % field_name)

            return getattr(self, field_name) + inc

        def _set_properties(self, value):
            setattr(self, '_%s_inc' % field_name, value)

        return property(_get_properties, _set_properties)

I know my fields ahead of time so im going to create my properties. NOTE: you cannot do this PER instance, these properties will exist on the class!!!

for inc, field in enumerate(['a', 'b', 'c']):
    setattr(X, '%s_summed' % field, X._make_properties(field, inc))

Let's test it all now..

x = X()
assert x.a == 0
assert x.b == 0
assert x.c == 0

assert x.a_summed == 0  # enumerate() set inc to 0 + 0 = 0
assert x.b_summed == 1  # enumerate() set inc to 1 + 0 = 1
assert x.c_summed == 2  # enumerate() set inc to 2 + 0 = 2

# we set the variables to something
x.a = 1
x.b = 2
x.c = 3

assert x.a_summed == 1  # enumerate() set inc to 0 + 1 = 1
assert x.b_summed == 3  # enumerate() set inc to 1 + 2 = 3
assert x.c_summed == 5  # enumerate() set inc to 2 + 3 = 5

# we're changing the inc now
x.a_summed = 1
x.b_summed = 3
x.c_summed = 5

assert x.a_summed == 2  # we set inc to 1 + the property was 1 = 2
assert x.b_summed == 5  # we set inc to 3 + the property was 2 = 5
assert x.c_summed == 8  # we set inc to 5 + the property was 3 = 8

Is it confusing? Yes, sorry I couldn't come up with any meaningful real world examples. Also, this is not for the light hearted.

SUM OVER PARTITION BY

You could have used DISTINCT or just remove the PARTITION BY portions and use GROUP BY:

SELECT BrandId
       ,SUM(ICount)
       ,TotalICount = SUM(ICount) OVER ()
       ,Percentage = SUM(ICount) OVER ()*1.0 / SUM(ICount)
FROM Table
WHERE DateId  = 20130618
GROUP BY BrandID

Not sure why you are dividing the total by the count per BrandID, if that's a mistake and you want percent of total then reverse those bits above to:

SELECT BrandId
           ,SUM(ICount)
           ,TotalICount = SUM(ICount) OVER ()
           ,Percentage = SUM(ICount)*1.0 / SUM(ICount) OVER ()
    FROM Table
    WHERE DateId  = 20130618
    GROUP BY BrandID

Pandas/Python: Set value of one column based on value in another column

I suggest doing it in two steps:

# set fixed value to 'c2' where the condition is met
df.loc[df['c1'] == 'Value', 'c2'] = 10

# copy value from 'c3' to 'c2' where the condition is NOT met
df.loc[df['c1'] != 'Value', 'c2'] = df[df['c1'] != 'Value', 'c3']

Compiling a java program into an executable

I would use GCJ (GNU Compiler for Java) in your situation. It's an AOT (ahead of time) compiler for Java, much like GCC is for C. Instead of interpreting code, or generating intermediate java code to be run at a later time by the Java VM, it generates machine code.

GCJ is available on almost any Linux system through its respective package manager (if available). After installation, the GCJ compiler should be added to the path so that it can be invoked through the terminal. If you're using Windows, you can download and install GCJ through Cygwin or MinGW.

I would strongly recommend, however, that you rewrite your source for another language that is meant to be compiled, such as C++. Java is meant to be a portable, interpreted language. Compiling it to machine code is completely against what the language was developed for.

Set Page Title using PHP

<?php echo APP_TITLE?> - <?php echo $page_title;?>

this should work fine for you

"The page has expired due to inactivity" - Laravel 5.5

Short answer

Add the route entry for register in app/Http/Middleware/VerifyCsrfToken.php

protected $except = [
        '/routeTo/register'
    ];

and clear the cache and the cache route with the commands:

php artisan cache:clear && php artisan route:clear

Details

Every time you access a Laravel site, a token is generated, even if the session has not been started. Then, in each request, this token (stored in the cookies) will be validated against its expiration time, set in the SESSION_LIFETIME field on config/session.php file.

If you keep the site open for more than the expiration time and try to make a request, this token will be evaluated and the expiration error will return. So, to skip this validation on forms that are outside the functions of authenticated users (such as register or login) you can add the except route in app/Http/Middleware/VerifyCsrfToken.php.

jQuery - simple input validation - "empty" and "not empty"

You could do this

$("#input").blur(function(){
    if($(this).val() == ''){
        alert('empty');
    }
});

http://jsfiddle.net/jasongennaro/Y5P9k/1/

When the input has lost focus that is .blur(), then check the value of the #input.

If it is empty == '' then trigger the alert.

Get a list of resources from classpath directory

This should work (if spring is not an option):

public static List<String> getFilenamesForDirnameFromCP(String directoryName) throws URISyntaxException, UnsupportedEncodingException, IOException {
    List<String> filenames = new ArrayList<>();

    URL url = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResource(directoryName);
    if (url != null) {
        if (url.getProtocol().equals("file")) {
            File file = Paths.get(url.toURI()).toFile();
            if (file != null) {
                File[] files = file.listFiles();
                if (files != null) {
                    for (File filename : files) {
                        filenames.add(filename.toString());
                    }
                }
            }
        } else if (url.getProtocol().equals("jar")) {
            String dirname = directoryName + "/";
            String path = url.getPath();
            String jarPath = path.substring(5, path.indexOf("!"));
            try (JarFile jar = new JarFile(URLDecoder.decode(jarPath, StandardCharsets.UTF_8.name()))) {
                Enumeration<JarEntry> entries = jar.entries();
                while (entries.hasMoreElements()) {
                    JarEntry entry = entries.nextElement();
                    String name = entry.getName();
                    if (name.startsWith(dirname) && !dirname.equals(name)) {
                        URL resource = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResource(name);
                        filenames.add(resource.toString());
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }
    return filenames;
}

Python: call a function from string name

You can use a dictionary too.

    methods[method_name]() # + argument list of course
else:

Name does not exist in the current context

I came across a similar problem with a meta tag. In the designer.cs, the control was defined as:

protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControl.HtmlGenericControl metatag;

I had to move the definition to the .aspx.cs file and define as:

protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControl.HtmlMeta metatag;

How to get browser width using JavaScript code?

An adapted solution to modern JS of Travis' answer:

const getPageWidth = () => {
  const bodyMax = document.body
    ? Math.max(document.body.scrollWidth, document.body.offsetWidth)
    : 0;

  const docElementMax = document.documentElement
    ? Math.max(
        document.documentElement.scrollWidth,
        document.documentElement.offsetWidth,
        document.documentElement.clientWidth
      )
    : 0;

  return Math.max(bodyMax, docElementMax);
};

adding multiple entries to a HashMap at once in one statement

Based on solution, presented by @Dakusan (the class defining to extend the HashMap), I did it this way:

  public static HashMap<String,String> SetHash(String...pairs) {
     HashMap<String,String> rtn = new HashMap<String,String>(pairs.length/2);
     for ( int n=0; n < pairs.length; n+=2 ) rtn.put(pairs[n], pairs[n + 1]);
    return rtn;
  }

.. and using it this way:

HashMap<String,String> hm = SetHash( "one","aa", "two","bb", "tree","cc");

(Not sure if there is any disadvantages in that way (I am not a java developer, just has to do some task in java), but it works and seems to me comfortable.)

HTTP POST with URL query parameters -- good idea or not?

Everyone is right: stick with POST for non-idempotent requests.

What about using both an URI query string and request content? Well it's valid HTTP (see note 1), so why not?!

It is also perfectly logical: URLs, including their query string part, are for locating resources. Whereas HTTP method verbs (POST - and its optional request content) are for specifying actions, or what to do with resources. Those should be orthogonal concerns. (But, they are not beautifully orthogonal concerns for the special case of ContentType=application/x-www-form-urlencoded, see note 2 below.)

Note 1: HTTP specification (1.1) does not state that query parameters and content are mutually exclusive for a HTTP server that accepts POST or PUT requests. So any server is free to accept both. I.e. if you write the server there's nothing to stop you choosing to accept both (except maybe an inflexible framework). Generally, the server can interpret query strings according to whatever rules it wants. It can even interpret them with conditional logic that refers to other headers like Content-Type too, which leads to Note 2:

Note 2: if a web browser is the primary way people are accessing your web application, and application/x-www-form-urlencoded is the Content-Type they are posting, then you should follow the rules for that Content-Type. And the rules for application/x-www-form-urlencoded are much more specific (and frankly, unusual): in this case you must interpret the URI as a set of parameters, and not a resource location. [This is the same point of usefulness Powerlord raised; that it may be hard to use web forms to POST content to your server. Just explained a little differently.]

Note 3: what are query strings originally for? RFC 3986 defines HTTP query strings as an URI part that works as a non-hierarchical way of locating a resource.

In case readers asking this question wish to ask what is good RESTful architecture: the RESTful architecture pattern doesn't require URI schemes to work a specific way. RESTful architecture concerns itself with other properties of the system, like cacheability of resources, the design of the resources themselves (their behavior, capabilities, and representations), and whether idempotence is satisfied. Or in other words, achieving a design which is highly compatible with HTTP protocol and its set of HTTP method verbs. :-) (In other words, RESTful architecture is not very presciptive with how the resources are located.)

Final note: sometimes query parameters get used for yet other things, which are neither locating resources nor encoding content. Ever seen a query parameter like 'PUT=true' or 'POST=true'? These are workarounds for browsers that don't allow you to use PUT and POST methods. While such parameters are seen as part of the URL query string (on the wire), I argue that they are not part of the URL's query in spirit.

Merge two dataframes by index

If u want to join two dataframes in pandas you can simply use available attributes like merge or concatenate. For example if I have two dataframes df1 and df2 I can join them by:

newdataframe=merge(df1,df2,left_index=True,right_index=True)

Align inline-block DIVs to top of container element

You need to add a vertical-align property to your two child div's.

If .small is always shorter, you need only apply the property to .small. However, if either could be tallest then you should apply the property to both .small and .big.

.container{
    border: 1px black solid;
    width: 320px;
    height: 120px;
}

.small{
    display: inline-block;
    width: 40%;
    height: 30%;
    border: 1px black solid;
    background: aliceblue;
    vertical-align: top;
}

.big {
    display: inline-block;
    border: 1px black solid;
    width: 40%;
    height: 50%;
    background: beige;
    vertical-align: top;
}

Vertical align affects inline or table-cell box's, and there are a large nubmer of different values for this property. Please see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/vertical-align for more details.

How to access parent Iframe from JavaScript

Old question, but I just had this same issue and found a way to get the iframe. It's simply a matter of iterating through the parent window's frames[] array and testing each frame's contentWindow against the window in which your code is running. Example:

var arrFrames = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("IFRAME");
for (var i = 0; i < arrFrames.length; i++) {
  if (arrFrames[i].contentWindow === window) alert("yay!");
}

Or, using jQuery:

parent.$("iframe").each(function(iel, el) {
  if(el.contentWindow === window) alert("got it");
});

This method saves assigning an ID to each iframe, which is good in your case as they are dynamically created. I couldn't find a more direct way, since you can't get the iframe element using window.parent - it goes straight to the parent window element (skipping the iframe). So looping through them seems the only way, unless you want to use IDs.

How to set $_GET variable

One way to set the $_GET variable is to parse the URL using parse_url() and then parse the $query string using parse_str(), which sets the variables into the $_GET global.

This approach is useful,

  • if you want to test GET parameter handling without making actual queries, e.g. for testing the incoming parameters for existence and input filtering and sanitizing of incoming vars.
  • and when you don't want to construct the array manually each time, but use the normal URL

function setGetRequest($url)
{
    $query = parse_url($url, PHP_URL_QUERY);
    parse_str($query, $_GET);
}

$url = 'http://www.example.com/test.php?a=10&b=plop';

setGetRequest($url);

var_dump($_GET);

Result: $_GET contains

array (
  'a' => string '10' (length=2)
  'b' => string 'plop' (length=4)
)

filters on ng-model in an input

I believe that the intention of AngularJS inputs and the ngModel direcive is that invalid input should never end up in the model. The model should always be valid. The problem with having invalid model is that we might have watchers that fire and take (inappropriate) actions based on invalid model.

As I see it, the proper solution here is to plug into the $parsers pipeline and make sure that invalid input doesn't make it into the model. I'm not sure how did you try to approach things or what exactly didn't work for you with $parsers but here is a simple directive that solves your problem (or at least my understanding of the problem):

app.directive('customValidation', function(){
   return {
     require: 'ngModel',
     link: function(scope, element, attrs, modelCtrl) {

       modelCtrl.$parsers.push(function (inputValue) {

         var transformedInput = inputValue.toLowerCase().replace(/ /g, '');

         if (transformedInput!=inputValue) {
           modelCtrl.$setViewValue(transformedInput);
           modelCtrl.$render();
         }

         return transformedInput;
       });
     }
   };
});

As soon as the above directive is declared it can be used like so:

<input ng-model="sth" ng-trim="false" custom-validation>

As in solution proposed by @Valentyn Shybanov we need to use the ng-trim directive if we want to disallow spaces at the beginning / end of the input.

The advantage of this approach is 2-fold:

  • Invalid value is not propagated to the model
  • Using a directive it is easy to add this custom validation to any input without duplicating watchers over and over again

bash "if [ false ];" returns true instead of false -- why?

as noted by @tripleee, this is tangential, at best.

still, in case you arrived here searching for something like that (as i did), here is my solution

having to deal with user acessible configuration files, i use this function :

function isTrue() {
    if [[ "${@^^}" =~ ^(TRUE|OUI|Y|O$|ON$|[1-9]) ]]; then return 0;fi
    return 1
    }

wich can be used like that

if isTrue "$whatever"; then..

You can alter the "truth list" in the regexp, the one in this sample is french compatible and considers strings like "Yeah, yup, on,1, Oui,y,true to be "True".

note that the '^^' provides case insensivity

How to convert char* to wchar_t*?

In your example, wc is a local variable which will be deallocated when the function call ends. This puts you into undefined behavior territory.

The simple fix is this:

const wchar_t *GetWC(const char *c)
{
    const size_t cSize = strlen(c)+1;
    wchar_t* wc = new wchar_t[cSize];
    mbstowcs (wc, c, cSize);

    return wc;
}

Note that the calling code will then have to deallocate this memory, otherwise you will have a memory leak.

Find specific string in a text file with VBS script

I'd recommend using a regular expressions instead of string operations for this:

Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

filename = "C:\VBS\filediprova.txt"

newtext = vbLf & "<tr><td><a href=""..."">Beginning_of_DD_TC5</a></td></tr>"

Set re = New RegExp
re.Pattern = "(\n.*?Test Case \d)"
re.Global  = False
re.IgnoreCase = True

text = f.OpenTextFile(filename).ReadAll
f.OpenTextFile(filename, 2).Write re.Replace(text, newText & "$1")

The regular expression will match a line feed (\n) followed by a line containing the string Test Case followed by a number (\d), and the replacement will prepend that with the text you want to insert (variable newtext). Setting re.Global = False makes the replacement stop after the first match.

If the line breaks in your text file are encoded as CR-LF (carriage return + line feed) you'll have to change \n into \r\n and vbLf into vbCrLf.

If you have to modify several text files, you could do it in a loop like this:

For Each f In fso.GetFolder("C:\VBS").Files
  If LCase(fso.GetExtensionName(f.Name)) = "txt" Then
    text = f.OpenAsTextStream.ReadAll
    f.OpenAsTextStream(2).Write re.Replace(text, newText & "$1")
  End If
Next

excel plot against a date time x series

There is one way to do this, as long as you have regular time intervals between all your date-time values - make the x-axis consider the values as text.

in Excel 2007, click on the chart - Go to the layout menu (contextual menu on clicking on the chart) , choose the option Axes->Primary Horizontal Axes-> More Horizontal Axes Options
Under Axis Type, choose "Text Axis"

How do I select the "last child" with a specific class name in CSS?

You can't target the last instance of the class name in your list without JS.

However, you may not be entirely out-of-css-luck, depending on what you are wanting to achieve. For example, by using the next sibling selector, I have added a visual divider after the last of your .list elements here: http://jsbin.com/vejixisudo/edit?html,css,output

Display images in asp.net mvc

It is possible to use a handler to do this, even in MVC4. Here's an example from one i made earlier:

public class ImageHandler : IHttpHandler
{
    byte[] bytes;

    public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
    {
        int param;
        if (int.TryParse(context.Request.QueryString["id"], out param))
        {
            using (var db = new MusicLibContext())
            {
                if (param == -1)
                {
                    bytes = File.ReadAllBytes(HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/Images/add.png"));

                    context.Response.ContentType = "image/png";
                }
                else
                {
                    var data = (from x in db.Images
                                where x.ImageID == (short)param
                                select x).FirstOrDefault();

                    bytes = data.ImageData;

                    context.Response.ContentType = "image/" + data.ImageFileType;
                }

                context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
                context.Response.BinaryWrite(bytes);
                context.Response.Flush();
                context.Response.End();

Change color of bootstrap navbar on hover link?

You would have to overwrite the CSS rule:

.navbar-inverse .brand, .navbar-inverse .nav > li > a

or

.navbar .brand, .navbar .nav > li > a

depending if you are using the dark or light theme, respectively. To do this, add a CSS with your overwritten rules and make sure it comes in your HTML after the Bootstrap CSS. For example:

.navbar .brand, .navbar .nav > li > a {
    color: #D64848;
}
.navbar .brand, .navbar .nav > li > a:hover {
    color: #F56E6E;
}

There is also the alternative where you customize your own Boostrap here. In this case, in the Navbar section, you have the @navbarLinkColor.

Tablix: Repeat header rows on each page not working - Report Builder 3.0

It depends on the tablix structure you are using. In a table, for example, you do not have column groups, so Reporting Services does not recognize which textboxes are the column headers and setting RepeatColumnHeaders property to True doesn't work.

Instead, you need to:

  1. Open Advanced Mode in the Groupings pane. (Click the arrow to the right of the Column Groups and select Advanced Mode.)
    • Screenshot
  2. In the Row Groups area (not Column Groups), click on a Static group, which highlights the corresponding textbox in the tablix. Click through each Static group until it highlights the leftmost column header. This is generally the first Static group listed.
  3. In the Properties window, set the RepeatOnNewPage property to True.
    • Screenshot
  4. Make sure that the KeepWithGroup property is set to After.

The KeepWithGroup property specifies which group to which the static member needs to stick. If set to After then the static member sticks with the group after it, or below it, acting as a group header. If set to Before, then the static member sticks with the group before, or above it, acting as a group footer. If set to None, Reporting Services decides where to put the static member.

Now when you view the report, the column headers repeat on each page of the tablix.

This video shows how to set it exactly as the answer described.

How to make a new List in Java

As declaration of array list in java is like

public class ArrayList<E> extends AbstractList<E> implements List<E>, RandomAccess, Cloneable, Serializable

There is numerous way you can create and initialize array list in java.

 1) List list = new ArrayList();

 2) List<type> myList = new ArrayList<>();

 3) List<type> myList = new ArrayList<type>();

 4) Using Utility class

    List<Integer> list = Arrays.asList(8, 4);
    Collections.unmodifiableList(Arrays.asList("a", "b", "c"));

 5) Using static factory method

    List<Integer> immutableList = List.of(1, 2);

 6) Creation and initializing at a time

    List<String> fixedSizeList = Arrays.asList(new String[] {"Male", "Female"});

 Again you can create different types of list. All has their own characteristics

 List a = new ArrayList();
 List b = new LinkedList();
 List c = new Vector();
 List d = new Stack();
 List e = new CopyOnWriteArrayList();

Stack, Static, and Heap in C++

Stack memory allocation (function variables, local variables) can be problematic when your stack is too "deep" and you overflow the memory available to stack allocations. The heap is for objects that need to be accessed from multiple threads or throughout the program lifecycle. You can write an entire program without using the heap.

You can leak memory quite easily without a garbage collector, but you can also dictate when objects and memory is freed. I have run in to issues with Java when it runs the GC and I have a real time process, because the GC is an exclusive thread (nothing else can run). So if performance is critical and you can guarantee there are no leaked objects, not using a GC is very helpful. Otherwise it just makes you hate life when your application consumes memory and you have to track down the source of a leak.

SSIS how to set connection string dynamically from a config file

Here's some background on the mechanism you should use, called Package Configurations: Understanding Integration Services Package Configurations. The article describes 5 types of configurations:

  • XML configuration file
  • Environment variable
  • Registry entry
  • Parent package variable
  • SQL Server

Here's a walkthrough of setting up a configuration on a Connection Manager: SQL Server Integration Services SSIS Package Configuration - I do realize this is using an environment variable for the connection string (not a great idea), but the basics are identical to using an XML file. The only step(s) you have to change in that walkthrough are the configuration type, and then a path.

The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter 'id' of non-nullable type 'System.Int32'

Restore LogCat window within Android Studio

I hope you have installed the required drivers for debugging android programs on your machine. If that is the case, when you run an application from android studio in an actual device, it will pop up a message asking to enable logcat. If you have disabled that option, then you can enable the logcat view from Window menu -> Show view -> Logcat. Next time when you run your application on actual device or in an emulator, you can see the logcat is active.

If you are not able to view it with the above solution, you can view the logcat from command line by typing

adb logcat

You can view more information from here http://developer.android.com/tools/help/logcat.html

  • IFS= (or IFS='') prevents leading/trailing whitespace from being trimmed.
  • -r prevents backslash escapes from being interpreted.

Or you can put it in a bash file helper script, example contents:

#!/bin/bash
while IFS= read -r line; do
    echo "Text read from file: $line"
done < "$1"

If the above is saved to a script with filename readfile, it can be run as follows:

chmod +x readfile
./readfile filename.txt

If the file isn’t a standard POSIX text file (= not terminated by a newline character), the loop can be modified to handle trailing partial lines:

while IFS= read -r line || [[ -n "$line" ]]; do
    echo "Text read from file: $line"
done < "$1"

Here, || [[ -n $line ]] prevents the last line from being ignored if it doesn't end with a \n (since read returns a non-zero exit code when it encounters EOF).

If the commands inside the loop also read from standard input, the file descriptor used by read can be chanced to something else (avoid the standard file descriptors), e.g.:

while IFS= read -r -u3 line; do
    echo "Text read from file: $line"
done 3< "$1"

(Non-Bash shells might not know read -u3; use read <&3 instead.)

How do you redirect HTTPS to HTTP?

Difference between maven scope compile and provided for JAR packaging

From the Maven Doc:

  • compile

    This is the default scope, used if none is specified. Compile dependencies are available in all classpaths of a project. Furthermore, those dependencies are propagated to dependent projects.

  • provided

    This is much like compile, but indicates you expect the JDK or a container to provide the dependency at runtime. For example, when building a web application for the Java Enterprise Edition, you would set the dependency on the Servlet API and related Java EE APIs to scope provided because the web container provides those classes. This scope is only available on the compilation and test classpath, and is not transitive.

Recap:

  • dependencies are not transitive (as you mentioned)
  • provided scope is only available on the compilation and test classpath, whereas compile scope is available in all classpaths.
  • provided dependencies are not packaged

Copy row but with new id

This works in MySQL all versions and Amazon RDS Aurora:

INSERT INTO my_table SELECT 0,tmp.* FROM tmp;

or

Setting the index column to NULL and then doing the INSERT.

But not in MariaDB, I tested version 10.

Facebook Graph API v2.0+ - /me/friends returns empty, or only friends who also use my application

As Simon mentioned, this is not possible in the new Facebook API. Pure technically speaking you can do it via browser automation.

  • this is against Facebook policy, so depending on the country where you live, this may not be legal
  • you'll have to use your credentials / ask user for credentials and possibly store them (storing passwords even symmetrically encrypted is not a good idea)
  • when Facebook changes their API, you'll have to update the browser automation code as well (if you can't force updates of your application, you should put browser automation piece out as a webservice)
  • this is bypassing the OAuth concept
  • on the other hand, my feeling is that I'm owning my data including the list of my friends and Facebook shouldn't restrict me from accessing those via the API

Sample implementation using WatiN:

class FacebookUser
{
  public string Name { get; set; }
  public long Id { get; set; }
}

public IList<FacebookUser> GetFacebookFriends(string email, string password, int? maxTimeoutInMilliseconds)
{
  var users = new List<FacebookUser>();
  Settings.Instance.MakeNewIeInstanceVisible = false;
  using (var browser = new IE("https://www.facebook.com"))
  {
    try
    {
      browser.TextField(Find.ByName("email")).Value = email;
      browser.TextField(Find.ByName("pass")).Value = password;
      browser.Form(Find.ById("login_form")).Submit();
      browser.WaitForComplete();
    }
    catch (ElementNotFoundException)
    {
      // We're already logged in
    }
    browser.GoTo("https://www.facebook.com/friends");
    var watch = new Stopwatch();
    watch.Start();

    Link previousLastLink = null;
    while (maxTimeoutInMilliseconds.HasValue && watch.Elapsed.TotalMilliseconds < maxTimeoutInMilliseconds.Value)
    {
      var lastLink = browser.Links.Where(l => l.GetAttributeValue("data-hovercard") != null
                       && l.GetAttributeValue("data-hovercard").Contains("user.php")
                       && l.Text != null
                     ).LastOrDefault();

      if (lastLink == null || previousLastLink == lastLink)
      {
        break;
      }

      var ieElement = lastLink.NativeElement as IEElement;
      if (ieElement != null)
      {
        var htmlElement = ieElement.AsHtmlElement;
        htmlElement.scrollIntoView();
        browser.WaitForComplete();
      }

      previousLastLink = lastLink;
    }

    var links = browser.Links.Where(l => l.GetAttributeValue("data-hovercard") != null
      && l.GetAttributeValue("data-hovercard").Contains("user.php")
      && l.Text != null
    ).ToList();

    var idRegex = new Regex("id=(?<id>([0-9]+))");
    foreach (var link in links)
    {
      string hovercard = link.GetAttributeValue("data-hovercard");
      var match = idRegex.Match(hovercard);
      long id = 0;
      if (match.Success)
      {
        id = long.Parse(match.Groups["id"].Value);
      }
      users.Add(new FacebookUser
      {
        Name = link.Text,
        Id = id
      });
    }
  }
  return users;
}

Prototype with implementation of this approach (using C#/WatiN) see https://github.com/svejdo1/ShadowApi. It is also allowing dynamic update of Facebook connector that is retrieving a list of your contacts.

Free easy way to draw graphs and charts in C++?

I've used this "portable plotter". It's very small, multiplatform, easy to use and you can plug it into different graphical libraries. pplot

(Only for the plots part)

If you use or plan to use Qt, another multiplatform solution is Qwt and Qchart

Is there a good Valgrind substitute for Windows?

I had the chance to use Compuware DevPartner Studio in the past and that was really good, but it's quite expensive. A cheaper solution could be GlowCode, i just worked with a 5.x version and, despite some problems in attaching to a process i needed to debug, it worked quite well.

Passing base64 encoded strings in URL

There are additional base64 specs. (See the table here for specifics ). But essentially you need 65 chars to encode: 26 lowercase + 26 uppercase + 10 digits = 62.

You need two more ['+', '/'] and a padding char '='. But none of them are url friendly, so just use different chars for them and you're set. The standard ones from the chart above are ['-', '_'], but you could use other chars as long as you decoded them the same, and didn't need to share with others.

I'd recommend just writing your own helpers. Like these from the comments on the php manual page for base64_encode:

function base64_url_encode($input) {
 return strtr(base64_encode($input), '+/=', '._-');
}

function base64_url_decode($input) {
 return base64_decode(strtr($input, '._-', '+/='));
}

React Native absolute positioning horizontal centre

        position: 'absolute',

      }}

Using IF ELSE statement based on Count to execute different Insert statements

If this is in SQL Server, your syntax is correct; however, you need to reference the COUNT(*) as the Total Count from your nested query. This should give you what you need:

SELECT CASE WHEN TotalCount >0 THEN 'TRUE' ELSE 'FALSE' END FROM
(
  SELECT [Some Column], COUNT(*) TotalCount
  FROM INCIDENTS
  WHERE [Some Column] = 'Target Data'
  GROUP BY [Some Column]
) DerivedTable

Using this, you could assign TotalCount to a variable and then use an IF ELSE statement to execute your INSERT statements:

DECLARE @TotalCount int
SELECT @TotalCount = TotalCount FROM
(
  SELECT [Some Column], COUNT(*) TotalCount
  FROM INCIDENTS
  WHERE [Some Column] = 'Target Data'
  GROUP BY [Some Column]
) DerivedTable
IF @TotalCount > 0
    -- INSERT STATEMENT 1 GOES HERE
ELSE
    -- INSERT STATEMENT 2 GOES HERE

Java 8 Stream and operation on arrays

How do I dynamically set HTML5 data- attributes using react?

Note - if you want to pass a data attribute to a React Component, you need to handle them a little differently than other props.

2 options

Don't use camel case

<Option data-img-src='value' ... />

And then in the component, because of the dashes, you need to refer to the prop in quotes.

// @flow
class Option extends React.Component {

  props: {
    'data-img-src': string
  }

And when you refer to it later, you don't use the dot syntax

  render () {
    return (
      <option data-img-src={this.props['data-img-src']} >...</option>
    )
  }
}

Or use camel case

<Option dataImgSrc='value' ... />

And then in the component, you need to convert.

// @flow
class Option extends React.Component {

  props: {
    dataImgSrc: string
  }

And when you refer to it later, you don't use the dot syntax

  render () {
    return (
      <option data-img-src={this.props.dataImgSrc} >...</option>
    )
  }
}

Mainly just realize data- attributes and aria- attributes are treated specially. You are allowed to use hyphens in the attribute name in those two cases.

Codesign wants to access key "access" in your keychain, I put in my login password but keeps asking me

Okay Guys, after literally 2,5 hours of trying to fix that error I managed to find a solution that worked on my two Mac Machines. These are the steps I did:

  1. Open Xcode -> Preferences
  2. Go to the Accounts Tab
  3. Click the button on the bottom right telling 'Manage certificates'
  4. Look for the name of the certificate
  5. Open the keychain manager
  6. Select in the menu the Sign-In tab
  7. Do a right-click and then delete on the certificate that was named in the Xcode settings page before
  8. Go back into Xcode and see Xcode creating a new certificate(The window will be empty for a couple of seconds and then there will a new certificate lighten up.
  9. Rerun your app

I hope that could help you guys. It helped me a lot! :)

Where do I put a single filter that filters methods in two controllers in Rails

Two ways.

i. You can put it in ApplicationController and add the filters in the controller

    class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base       def filter_method       end     end      class FirstController < ApplicationController       before_filter :filter_method     end      class SecondController < ApplicationController       before_filter :filter_method     end

But the problem here is that this method will be added to all the controllers since all of them extend from application controller

ii. Create a parent controller and define it there

 class ParentController < ApplicationController def filter_method end end class FirstController < ParentController before_filter :filter_method end class SecondController < ParentController before_filter :filter_method end

I have named it as parent controller but you can come up with a name that fits your situation properly.

You can also define the filter method in a module and include it in the controllers where you need the filter

Laravel 5.2 - pluck() method returns array

laravel pluck returns an array

if your query is:

 $name = DB::table('users')->where('name', 'John')->pluck('name');

then the array is like this (key is the index of the item. auto incremented value):

[
    1 => "name1",
    2 => "name2",
    .
    .
    .
    100 => "name100"
]

but if you do like this:

$name = DB::table('users')->where('name', 'John')->pluck('name','id');

then the key is actual index in the database.

key||value
[
    1 => "name1",
    2 => "name2",
    .
    .
    .
    100 => "name100"
]

you can set any value as key.

Python | change text color in shell

Use Curses or ANSI escape sequences. Before you start spouting escape sequences, you should check that stdout is a tty. You can do this with sys.stdout.isatty(). Here's a function pulled from a project of mine that prints output in red or green, depending on the status, using ANSI escape sequences:

def hilite(string, status, bold):
    attr = []
    if status:
        # green
        attr.append('32')
    else:
        # red
        attr.append('31')
    if bold:
        attr.append('1')
    return '\x1b[%sm%s\x1b[0m' % (';'.join(attr), string)

if else in a list comprehension

The reason you're getting this error has to do with how the list comprehension is performed.

Keep in mind the following:

[ expression for item in list if conditional ]

Is equivalent to:

for item in list:
    if conditional:
        expression

Where the expression is in a slightly different format (think switching the subject and verb order in a sentence).

Therefore, your code [x+1 for x in l if x >= 45] does this:

for x in l:
    if x >= 45:
        x+1

However, this code [x+1 if x >= 45 else x+5 for x in l] does this (after rearranging the expression):

for x in l:
    if x>=45: x+1
    else: x+5

Formatting and Styling

Yes, see the following from String Resources: Formatting and Styling

If you need to format your strings using String.format(String, Object...), then you can do so by putting your format arguments in the string resource. For example, with the following resource:

<string name="welcome_messages">Hello, %1$s! You have %2$d new messages.</string>

In this example, the format string has two arguments: %1$s is a string and %2$d is a decimal number. You can format the string with arguments from your application like this:

Resources res = getResources();
String text = String.format(res.getString(R.string.welcome_messages), username, mailCount);

Basic Usage

Note that getString has an overload that uses the string as a format string:

String text = res.getString(R.string.welcome_messages, username, mailCount);

Plurals

If you need to handle plurals, use this:

<plurals name="welcome_messages">
    <item quantity="one">Hello, %1$s! You have a new message.</item>
    <item quantity="other">Hello, %1$s! You have %2$d new messages.</item>
</plurals>

The first mailCount param is used to decide which format to use (single or plural), the other params are your substitutions:

Resources res = getResources();
String text = res.getQuantityString(R.plurals.welcome_messages, mailCount, username, mailCount);

See String Resources: Plurals for more details.

Java HttpRequest JSON & Response Handling

The simplest way is using libraries like google-http-java-client but if you want parse the JSON response by yourself you can do that in a multiple ways, you can use org.json, json-simple, Gson, minimal-json, jackson-mapper-asl (from 1.x)... etc

A set of simple examples:

Using Gson:

import java.io.IOException;

import org.apache.http.HttpResponse;
import org.apache.http.client.methods.HttpPost;
import org.apache.http.entity.StringEntity;
import org.apache.http.impl.client.CloseableHttpClient;
import org.apache.http.impl.client.HttpClientBuilder;
import org.apache.http.util.EntityUtils;

public class Gson {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
    }

    public HttpResponse http(String url, String body) {

        try (CloseableHttpClient httpClient = HttpClientBuilder.create().build()) {
            HttpPost request = new HttpPost(url);
            StringEntity params = new StringEntity(body);
            request.addHeader("content-type", "application/json");
            request.setEntity(params);
            HttpResponse result = httpClient.execute(request);
            String json = EntityUtils.toString(result.getEntity(), "UTF-8");

            com.google.gson.Gson gson = new com.google.gson.Gson();
            Response respuesta = gson.fromJson(json, Response.class);

            System.out.println(respuesta.getExample());
            System.out.println(respuesta.getFr());

        } catch (IOException ex) {
        }
        return null;
    }

    public class Response{

        private String example;
        private String fr;

        public String getExample() {
            return example;
        }
        public void setExample(String example) {
            this.example = example;
        }
        public String getFr() {
            return fr;
        }
        public void setFr(String fr) {
            this.fr = fr;
        }
    }
}

Using json-simple:

import java.io.IOException;

import org.apache.http.HttpResponse;
import org.apache.http.client.methods.HttpPost;
import org.apache.http.entity.StringEntity;
import org.apache.http.impl.client.CloseableHttpClient;
import org.apache.http.impl.client.HttpClientBuilder;
import org.apache.http.util.EntityUtils;
import org.json.simple.JSONArray;
import org.json.simple.JSONObject;
import org.json.simple.parser.JSONParser;

public class JsonSimple {

    public static void main(String[] args) {

    }

    public HttpResponse http(String url, String body) {

        try (CloseableHttpClient httpClient = HttpClientBuilder.create().build()) {
            HttpPost request = new HttpPost(url);
            StringEntity params = new StringEntity(body);
            request.addHeader("content-type", "application/json");
            request.setEntity(params);
            HttpResponse result = httpClient.execute(request);

            String json = EntityUtils.toString(result.getEntity(), "UTF-8");
            try {
                JSONParser parser = new JSONParser();
                Object resultObject = parser.parse(json);

                if (resultObject instanceof JSONArray) {
                    JSONArray array=(JSONArray)resultObject;
                    for (Object object : array) {
                        JSONObject obj =(JSONObject)object;
                        System.out.println(obj.get("example"));
                        System.out.println(obj.get("fr"));
                    }

                }else if (resultObject instanceof JSONObject) {
                    JSONObject obj =(JSONObject)resultObject;
                    System.out.println(obj.get("example"));
                    System.out.println(obj.get("fr"));
                }

            } catch (Exception e) {
                // TODO: handle exception
            }

        } catch (IOException ex) {
        }
        return null;
    }
}

etc...

Error: EACCES: permission denied, access '/usr/local/lib/node_modules'

I was able to get rid of this issue by installing nvm, then setting node to latest version.

  1. Install nvm using curl (for latest version go to nvm.sh)
curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvm-sh/nvm/v0.34.0/install.sh | bash
  1. List available node versions
nvm ls

v10.12.0
default -> v10.12 (-> v10.12.0)
node -> stable (-> v10.12.0) (default)
stable -> 10.12 (-> v10.12.0)

  1. Choose which version of node to use
nvm use v10.12

nvm is not compatible with the npm config "prefix" option: currently set to ""

  1. Run this to unset the option:
nvm use --delete-prefix v10.12.0

After following the commands above, you will be able to install react/angular in Ubuntu.

ReactJS - Call One Component Method From Another Component

Well, actually, React is not suitable for calling child methods from the parent. Some frameworks, like Cycle.js, allow easily access data both from parent and child, and react to it.

Also, there is a good chance you don't really need it. Consider calling it into existing component, it is much more independent solution. But sometimes you still need it, and then you have few choices:

  • Pass method down, if it is a child (the easiest one, and it is one of the passed properties)
  • add events library; in React ecosystem Flux approach is the most known, with Redux library. You separate all events into separated state and actions, and dispatch them from components
  • if you need to use function from the child in a parent component, you can wrap in a third component, and clone parent with augmented props.

UPD: if you need to share some functionality which doesn't involve any state (like static functions in OOP), then there is no need to contain it inside components. Just declare it separately and invoke when need:

let counter = 0;
function handleInstantiate() {
   counter++;
}

constructor(props) {
   super(props);
   handleInstantiate();
}

This library supports HTML5 postMessage and legacy browsers with resize+hash https://github.com/ternarylabs/porthole

Edit: Now in 2014, IE6/7 usage is quite low, IE8 and above all support postMessage so I now suggest to just use that.

Sending E-mail using C#

The .NET framework has some built-in classes which allows you to send e-mail via your app.

You should take a look in the System.Net.Mail namespace, where you'll find the MailMessage and SmtpClient classes. You can set the BodyFormat of the MailMessage class to MailFormat.Html.

It could also be helpfull if you make use of the AlternateViews property of the MailMessage class, so that you can provide a plain-text version of your mail, so that it can be read by clients that do not support HTML.

There seems no way to have google maps api key free without credit card. To test the functionality of google map you can use it while leaving the api key field "EMPTY". It will show a message saying "For Development Purpose Only". And that way you can test google map functionality without putting billing information for google map api key.

At worst case, you can use the boost::asio library to establish a TCP connection, send the HTTP headers (RFC 2616), and parse the responses directly. Looking at your application needs, this is simple enough to do.

Angular exception: Can't bind to 'ngForIn' since it isn't a known native property

Watching this course https://app.pluralsight.com/library/courses/angular-2-getting-started-update/discussion

The author explains that new version of JavaScript has for of and for in, the for of is to enumerate objects and the for in is to enumerate the index of the array.

include antiforgerytoken in ajax post ASP.NET MVC

I tried a lot of workarrounds and non of them worked for me. The exception was "The required anti-forgery form field "__RequestVerificationToken" .

What helped me out was to switch form .ajax to .post:

$.post(
    url,
    $(formId).serialize(),
    function (data) {
        $(formId).html(data);
    });

Split string into individual words Java

you can use Apache commons' StringUtils class

    String[] partsOfString = StringUtils.split("I want to walk my dog",StringUtils.SPACE)

Threading pool similar to the multiprocessing Pool?

The overhead of creating the new processes is minimal, especially when it's just 4 of them. I doubt this is a performance hot spot of your application. Keep it simple, optimize where you have to and where profiling results point to.

Check if string is in a pandas dataframe

If there is any chance that you will need to search for empty strings,

    a['Names'].str.contains('')

will NOT work, as it will always return True.

Instead, use

    if '' in a["Names"].values

to accurately reflect whether or not a string is in a Series, including the edge case of searching for an empty string.

Python map object is not subscriptable

In Python 3, map returns an iterable object of type map, and not a subscriptible list, which would allow you to write map[i]. To force a list result, write

payIntList = list(map(int,payList))

However, in many cases, you can write out your code way nicer by not using indices. For example, with list comprehensions:

payIntList = [pi + 1000 for pi in payList]
for pi in payIntList:
    print(pi)

Bootstrap 3 collapsed menu doesn't close on click

I had the same problem, I was using jQuery-1.7.1 and bootstrap 3.2.0. I changed my jQuery version to the latest (jquery-1.11.2) version and everything works well.

How to load data to hive from HDFS without removing the source file?

An alternative to 'LOAD DATA' is available in which the data will not be moved from your existing source location to hive data warehouse location.

You can use ALTER TABLE command with 'LOCATION' option. Here is below required command

ALTER TABLE table_name ADD PARTITION (date_col='2017-02-07') LOCATION 'hdfs/path/to/location/'

The only condition here is, the location should be a directory instead of file.

Hope this will solve the problem.

Print PDF directly from JavaScript

https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/

for a live demo http://mozilla.github.io/pdf.js/

it's probably what you want, but I can't see the point of this since modern browsers include such functionality, also it will run terribly slow on low-powered devices like mobile devices that, by the way, have their own optimized plugins and apps.

Changing user agent on urllib2.urlopen

headers = { 'User-Agent' : 'Mozilla/5.0' }
req = urllib2.Request('www.example.com', None, headers)
html = urllib2.urlopen(req).read()

Or, a bit shorter:

req = urllib2.Request('www.example.com', headers={ 'User-Agent': 'Mozilla/5.0' })
html = urllib2.urlopen(req).read()

node.js string.replace doesn't work?

Isn't string.replace returning a value, rather than modifying the source string?

So if you wanted to modify variableABC, you'd need to do this:

var variableABC = "A B C";

variableABC = variableABC.replace('B', 'D') //output: 'A D C'

In PANDAS, how to get the index of a known value?

To get the index by value, simply add .index[0] to the end of a query. This will return the index of the first row of the result...

So, applied to your dataframe:

In [1]: a[a['c2'] == 1].index[0]     In [2]: a[a['c1'] > 7].index[0]
Out[1]: 0                            Out[2]: 4

Where the query returns more than one row, the additional index results can be accessed by specifying the desired index, e.g. .index[n]

In [3]: a[a['c2'] >= 7].index[1]     In [4]: a[(a['c2'] > 1) & (a['c1'] < 8)].index[2]
Out[3]: 4                            Out[4]: 3

PHP: How to get current time in hour:minute:second?

You can have both formats as an argument to the function date():

date("d-m-Y H:i:s")

Check the manual for more info : http://php.net/manual/en/function.date.php

As pointed out by @ThomasVdBerge to display minutes you need the 'i' character

Haskell: Converting Int to String

Anyone who is just starting with Haskell and trying to print an Int, use:

module Lib
    ( someFunc
    ) where

someFunc :: IO ()
x = 123
someFunc = putStrLn (show x)

What does from __future__ import absolute_import actually do?

The difference between absolute and relative imports come into play only when you import a module from a package and that module imports an other submodule from that package. See the difference:

$ mkdir pkg
$ touch pkg/__init__.py
$ touch pkg/string.py
$ echo 'import string;print(string.ascii_uppercase)' > pkg/main1.py
$ python2
Python 2.7.9 (default, Dec 13 2014, 18:02:08) [GCC] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import pkg.main1
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "pkg/main1.py", line 1, in <module>
    import string;print(string.ascii_uppercase)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'ascii_uppercase'
>>>
$ echo 'from __future__ import absolute_import;import string;print(string.ascii_uppercase)' > pkg/main2.py
$ python2
Python 2.7.9 (default, Dec 13 2014, 18:02:08) [GCC] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import pkg.main2
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
>>>

In particular:

$ python2 pkg/main2.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "pkg/main2.py", line 1, in <module>
    from __future__ import absolute_import;import string;print(string.ascii_uppercase)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'ascii_uppercase'
$ python2
Python 2.7.9 (default, Dec 13 2014, 18:02:08) [GCC] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import pkg.main2
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
>>>
$ python2 -m pkg.main2
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

Note that python2 pkg/main2.py has a different behaviour then launching python2 and then importing pkg.main2 (which is equivalent to using the -m switch).

If you ever want to run a submodule of a package always use the -m switch which prevents the interpreter for chaining the sys.path list and correctly handles the semantics of the submodule.

Also, I much prefer using explicit relative imports for package submodules since they provide more semantics and better error messages in case of failure.

How to launch an Activity from another Application in Android

If you want to open specific activity of another application we can use this.

Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN, null);
intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER);
final ComponentName cn = new ComponentName("com.android.settings", "com.android.settings.fuelgauge.PowerUsageSummary");
intent.setComponent(cn);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
try
{
    startActivity(intent)
}catch(ActivityNotFoundException e){
    Toast.makeText(context,"Activity Not Found",Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show()
}

If you must need other application, instead of showing Toast you can show a dialog. Using dialog you can bring the user to Play-Store to download required application.

Get properties of a class

Some answers are partially wrong, and some facts in them are partially wrong as well.

Answer your question: Yes! You can.

In Typescript

class A {
    private a1;
    private a2;

}

Generates the following code in Javascript:

var A = /** @class */ (function () {
    function A() {
    }
    return A;
}());

as @Erik_Cupal said, you could just do:

let a = new A();
let array = return Object.getOwnPropertyNames(a);

But this is incomplete. What happens if your class has a custom constructor? You need to do a trick with Typescript because it will not compile. You need to assign as any:

let className:any = A;
let a = new className();// the members will have value undefined

A general solution will be:

class A {
    private a1;
    private a2;
    constructor(a1:number, a2:string){
        this.a1 = a1;
        this.a2 = a2;
    }
}

class Describer{

   describeClass( typeOfClass:any){
       let a = new typeOfClass();
       let array = Object.getOwnPropertyNames(a);
       return array;//you can apply any filter here
   }
}

For better understanding this will reference depending on the context.

How to convert a string to lower case in Bash?

echo "Hi All" | tr "[:upper:]" "[:lower:]"

jQuery checkbox onChange

There is no need to use :checkbox, also replace #activelist with #inactivelist:

$('#inactivelist').change(function () {
    alert('changed');
 });

Remove spaces from a string in VB.NET

To remove ALL spaces:

 myString = myString.Replace(" ", "")

To remove leading and trailing spaces:

myString = myString.Trim()

Note: this removes any white space, so newlines, tabs, etc. would be removed.

Can inner classes access private variables?

An inner class has access to all members of the outer class, but it does not have an implicit reference to a parent class instance (unlike some weirdness with Java). So if you pass a reference to the outer class to the inner class, it can reference anything in the outer class instance.

Java - creating a new thread

Please try this. You will understand all perfectly after you will take a look on my solution.

There are only 2 ways of creating threads in java

with implements Runnable

class One implements Runnable {
@Override
public void run() {
    System.out.println("Running thread 1 ... ");
}

with extends Thread

class Two extends Thread {
@Override
public void run() {
    System.out.println("Running thread 2 ... ");
}

Your MAIN class here

public class ExampleMain {
public static void main(String[] args) {

    One demo1 = new One();
    Thread t1 = new Thread(demo1);
    t1.start();

    Two demo2 = new Two();
    Thread t2 = new Thread(demo2);
    t2.start();
}

}

Get specific objects from ArrayList when objects were added anonymously?

You could simply create a method to get the object by it's name.

public Party getPartyByName(String name) {
    for(Party party : parties) {
        if(name.equalsIgnoreCase(party.name)) {
            return party;
        }
    }
    return null;
}

PHP-FPM and Nginx: 502 Bad Gateway

I made all this similar tweaks, but from time to time I was getting 501/502 errors (daily).

This are my settings on /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf to avoid 501 and 502 nginx errors… The server has 16Gb RAM. This configuration is for a 8Gb RAM server so…

sudo nano /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf

then set the following values for

pm.max_children = 70
pm.start_servers = 20
pm.min_spare_servers = 20
pm.max_spare_servers = 35
pm.max_requests = 500

After this changes restart php-fpm

sudo service php-fpm restart

What is the difference between cache and persist?

The difference between cache and persist operations is purely syntactic. cache is a synonym of persist or persist(MEMORY_ONLY), i.e. cache is merely persist with the default storage level MEMORY_ONLY

But Persist() We can save the intermediate results in 5 storage levels.

  1. MEMORY_ONLY
  2. MEMORY_AND_DISK
  3. MEMORY_ONLY_SER
  4. MEMORY_AND_DISK_SER
  5. DISK_ONLY

/** * Persist this RDD with the default storage level (MEMORY_ONLY). */
def persist(): this.type = persist(StorageLevel.MEMORY_ONLY)

/** * Persist this RDD with the default storage level (MEMORY_ONLY). */
def cache(): this.type = persist()

see more details here...

Caching or persistence are optimization techniques for (iterative and interactive) Spark computations. They help saving interim partial results so they can be reused in subsequent stages. These interim results as RDDs are thus kept in memory (default) or more solid storage like disk and/or replicated. RDDs can be cached using cache operation. They can also be persisted using persist operation.

#persist, cache

These functions can be used to adjust the storage level of a RDD. When freeing up memory, Spark will use the storage level identifier to decide which partitions should be kept. The parameter less variants persist() and cache() are just abbreviations for persist(StorageLevel.MEMORY_ONLY).

Warning: Once the storage level has been changed, it cannot be changed again!

Warning -Cache judiciously... see ((Why) do we need to call cache or persist on a RDD)

Just because you can cache a RDD in memory doesn’t mean you should blindly do so. Depending on how many times the dataset is accessed and the amount of work involved in doing so, recomputation can be faster than the price paid by the increased memory pressure.

It should go without saying that if you only read a dataset once there is no point in caching it, it will actually make your job slower. The size of cached datasets can be seen from the Spark Shell..

Listing Variants...

def cache(): RDD[T]
 def persist(): RDD[T]
 def persist(newLevel: StorageLevel): RDD[T]

See below example :

val c = sc.parallelize(List("Gnu", "Cat", "Rat", "Dog", "Gnu", "Rat"), 2)
     c.getStorageLevel
     res0: org.apache.spark.storage.StorageLevel = StorageLevel(false, false, false, false, 1)
     c.cache
     c.getStorageLevel
     res2: org.apache.spark.storage.StorageLevel = StorageLevel(false, true, false, true, 1)

enter image here

Note : Due to the very small and purely syntactic difference between caching and persistence of RDDs the two terms are often used interchangeably.

See more visually here....

Persist in memory and disk:

Cache

Caching can improve the performance of your application to a great extent.

How can I make Java print quotes, like "Hello"?

Use Escape sequence.

\"Hello\"

This will print "Hello".

What does numpy.random.seed(0) do?

Imagine you are showing someone how to code something with a bunch of "random" numbers. By using numpy seed they can use the same seed number and get the same set of "random" numbers.

So it's not exactly random because an algorithm spits out the numbers but it looks like a randomly generated bunch.

How to find out whether a file is at its `eof`?

When doing binary I/O the following method is useful:

while f.read(1):
    f.seek(-1,1)
    # whatever

The advantage is that sometimes you are processing a binary stream and do not know in advance how much you will need to read.

How do I download a package from apt-get without installing it?

There are a least these apt-get extension packages that can help:

apt-offline - offline apt package manager
apt-zip - Update a non-networked computer using apt and removable media

This is specifically for the case of wanting to download where you have network access but to install on another machine where you do not.

Otherwise, the --download-only option to apt-get is your friend:

 -d, --download-only
     Download only; package files are only retrieved, not unpacked or installed.
     Configuration Item: APT::Get::Download-Only.

git stash changes apply to new branch?

If you have some changes on your workspace and you want to stash them into a new branch use this command:

git stash branch branchName

It will make:

  1. a new branch
  2. move changes to this branch
  3. and remove latest stash (Like: git stash pop)

How do I include a JavaScript script file in Angular and call a function from that script?

Add external js file in index.html.

<script src="./assets/vendors/myjs.js"></script>

Here's myjs.js file :

var myExtObject = (function() {

    return {
      func1: function() {
        alert('function 1 called');
      },
      func2: function() {
        alert('function 2 called');
      }
    }

})(myExtObject||{})

var webGlObject = (function() {
    return {
      init: function() {
        alert('webGlObject initialized');
      }
    }
})(webGlObject||{})

Then declare it is in component like below

demo.component.ts

declare var myExtObject: any;
declare var webGlObject: any;

constructor(){
    webGlObject.init();
}

callFunction1() {
    myExtObject.func1();
}

callFunction2() {
    myExtObject.func2();
}

demo.component.html

<div>
    <p>click below buttons for function call</p>
    <button (click)="callFunction1()">Call Function 1</button>
    <button (click)="callFunction2()">Call Function 2</button>
</div>

It's working for me...

How to add text to JFrame?

To create a label for text:

JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Test");

To change the text in the label:

label1.setText("Label Text");

And finally to clear the label:

label1.setText("");

And all you have to do is place the label in your layout, or whatever layout system you are using, and then just add it to the JFrame...

C# getting the path of %AppData%

The path is different if you're talking ASP.NET.

I couldn't find any of the 'SpecialFolder' values that pointed to /App_Data for ASP.NET.

Instead you need to do this:

 HttpContext.Current.ApplicationInstance.Server.MapPath("~/App_Data")

(Note: You don't need the 'Current' property in an MVC Controller)

If theres another more 'abstract' way to get to App_Data would love to hear how.

This two images are of same size one is used for identifying selected Rating Bar and other for identifying unselected RatingBar

How do I write a Python dictionary to a csv file?

Your code was very close to working.

Try using a regular csv.writer rather than a DictWriter. The latter is mainly used for writing a list of dictionaries.

Here's some code that writes each key/value pair on a separate row:

import csv

somedict = dict(raymond='red', rachel='blue', matthew='green')
with open('mycsvfile.csv','wb') as f:
    w = csv.writer(f)
    w.writerows(somedict.items())

If instead you want all the keys on one row and all the values on the next, that is also easy:

with open('mycsvfile.csv','wb') as f:
    w = csv.writer(f)
    w.writerow(somedict.keys())
    w.writerow(somedict.values())

Pro tip: When developing code like this, set the writer to w = csv.writer(sys.stderr) so you can more easily see what is being generated. When the logic is perfected, switch back to w = csv.writer(f).

How to generate javadoc comments in Android Studio

You can use eclipse style of JavaDoc comment generation through "Fix doc comment". Open "Preference" -> "Keymap" and assign "Fix doc comment" action to a key that you want.

cd into directory without having permission

If it is a directory you own, grant yourself access to it:

chmod u+rx,go-w openfire

That grants you permission to use the directory and the files in it (x) and to list the files that are in it (r); it also denies group and others write permission on the directory, which is usually correct (though sometimes you may want to allow group to create files in your directory - but consider using the sticky bit on the directory if you do).

If it is someone else's directory, you'll probably need some help from the owner to change the permissions so that you can access it (or you'll need help from root to change the permissions for you).

PowerShell: Comparing dates

I wanted to show how powerful it can be aside from just checking "-lt".

Example: I used it to calculate time differences take from Windows event view Application log:

Get the difference between the two date times:

PS> $Obj = ((get-date "10/22/2020 12:51:1") - (get-date "10/22/2020 12:20:1 "))

Object created:

PS> $Obj

Minutes           : 31
Seconds           : 0
Milliseconds      : 0
Ticks             : 18600000000

Access an item directly:

PS> $Obj.Minutes

Reading a plain text file in Java

Use Java kiss if this is about simplicity of structure:

import static kiss.API.*;

class App {
  void run() {
    String line;
    try (Close in = inOpen("file.dat")) {
      while ((line = readLine()) != null) {
        println(line);
      }
    }
  }
}

Which is better, return value or out parameter?

You can only have one return value whereas you can have multiple out parameters.

You only need to consider out parameters in those cases.

However, if you need to return more than one parameter from your method, you probably want to look at what you're returning from an OO approach and consider if you're better off return an object or a struct with these parameters. Therefore you're back to a return value again.

Is it better to use C void arguments "void foo(void)" or not "void foo()"?

C99 quotes

This answer aims to quote and explain the relevant parts of the C99 N1256 standard draft.

Definition of declarator

The term declarator will come up a lot, so let's understand it.

From the language grammar, we find that the following underline characters are declarators:

int f(int x, int y);
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

int f(int x, int y) { return x + y; }
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

int f();
    ^^^

int f(x, y) int x; int y; { return x + y; }
    ^^^^^^^

Declarators are part of both function declarations and definitions.

There are 2 types of declarators:

  • parameter type list
  • identifier list

Parameter type list

Declarations look like:

int f(int x, int y);

Definitions look like:

int f(int x, int y) { return x + y; }

It is called parameter type list because we must give the type of each parameter.

Identifier list

Definitions look like:

int f(x, y)
    int x;
    int y;
{ return x + y; }

Declarations look like:

int g();

We cannot declare a function with a non-empty identifier list:

int g(x, y);

because 6.7.5.3 "Function declarators (including prototypes)" says:

3 An identifier list in a function declarator that is not part of a definition of that function shall be empty.

It is called identifier list because we only give the identifiers x and y on f(x, y), types come after.

This is an older method, and shouldn't be used anymore. 6.11.6 Function declarators says:

1 The use of function declarators with empty parentheses (not prototype-format parameter type declarators) is an obsolescent feature.

and the Introduction explains what is an obsolescent feature:

Certain features are obsolescent, which means that they may be considered for withdrawal in future revisions of this International Standard. They are retained because of their widespread use, but their use in new implementations (for implementation features) or new programs (for language [6.11] or library features [7.26]) is discouraged

f() vs f(void) for declarations

When you write just:

void f();

it is necessarily an identifier list declaration, because 6.7.5 "Declarators" says defines the grammar as:

direct-declarator:
    [...]
    direct-declarator ( parameter-type-list )
    direct-declarator ( identifier-list_opt )

so only the identifier-list version can be empty because it is optional (_opt).

direct-declarator is the only grammar node that defines the parenthesis (...) part of the declarator.

So how do we disambiguate and use the better parameter type list without parameters? 6.7.5.3 Function declarators (including prototypes) says:

10 The special case of an unnamed parameter of type void as the only item in the list specifies that the function has no parameters.

So:

void f(void);

is the way.

This is a magic syntax explicitly allowed, since we cannot use a void type argument in any other way:

void f(void v);
void f(int i, void);
void f(void, int);

What can happen if I use an f() declaration?

Maybe the code will compile just fine: 6.7.5.3 Function declarators (including prototypes):

14 The empty list in a function declarator that is not part of a definition of that function specifies that no information about the number or types of the parameters is supplied.

So you can get away with:

void f();
void f(int x) {}

Other times, UB can creep up (and if you are lucky the compiler will tell you), and you will have a hard time figuring out why:

void f();
void f(float x) {}

See: Why does an empty declaration work for definitions with int arguments but not for float arguments?

f() and f(void) for definitions

f() {}

vs

f(void) {}

are similar, but not identical.

6.7.5.3 Function declarators (including prototypes) says:

14 An empty list in a function declarator that is part of a definition of that function specifies that the function has no parameters.

which looks similar to the description of f(void).

But still... it seems that:

int f() { return 0; }
int main(void) { f(1); }

is conforming undefined behavior, while:

int f(void) { return 0; }
int main(void) { f(1); }

is non conforming as discussed at: Why does gcc allow arguments to be passed to a function defined to be with no arguments?

TODO understand exactly why. Has to do with being a prototype or not. Define prototype.

String Concatenation using '+' operator

It doesn't - the C# compiler does :)

So this code:

string x = "hello";
string y = "there";
string z = "chaps";
string all = x + y + z;

actually gets compiled as:

string x = "hello";
string y = "there";
string z = "chaps";
string all = string.Concat(x, y, z);

(Gah - intervening edit removed other bits accidentally.)

The benefit of the C# compiler noticing that there are multiple string concatenations here is that you don't end up creating an intermediate string of x + y which then needs to be copied again as part of the concatenation of (x + y) and z. Instead, we get it all done in one go.

EDIT: Note that the compiler can't do anything if you concatenate in a loop. For example, this code:

string x = "";
foreach (string y in strings)
{
    x += y;
}

just ends up as equivalent to:

string x = "";
foreach (string y in strings)
{
    x = string.Concat(x, y);
}

... so this does generate a lot of garbage, and it's why you should use a StringBuilder for such cases. I have an article going into more details about the two which will hopefully answer further questions.

How can I see the specific value of the sql_mode?

You need to login to your mysql terminal first using mysql -u username -p password

Then use this:

SELECT @@sql_mode; or SELECT @@GLOBAL.sql_mode;

output will be like this:

STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,STRICT_ALL_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,NO_ZERO_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,TRADITIONAL,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUB

You can also set sql mode by this:

SET GLOBAL sql_mode=TRADITIONAL;

Posting this code snippet here for my own future reference (not guaranteed but satisfactory "unique" enough):

};

// a valid HTML id
window.generateUniqueId = function() {
    return "_" + new Date().valueOf() + Math.random().toFixed(16).substring(2);
};
