Programs & Examples On #Sqlhelper

SqlHelper class is a utility class that can be used to execute commands in a SQL Server database.

Using .Select and .Where in a single LINQ statement

Did you add the Select() after the Where() or before?

You should add it after, because of the concurrency logic:

 1 Take the entire table
 2 Filter it accordingly
 3 Select only the ID's
 4 Make them distinct.

If you do a Select first, the Where clause can only contain the ID attribute because all other attributes have already been edited out.

Update: For clarity, this order of operators should work:

db.Items.Where(x=> x.userid == user_ID).Select(x=>x.Id).Distinct();

Probably want to add a .toList() at the end but that's optional :)

How to pass a null variable to a SQL Stored Procedure from C#.net code

Use DBNull.Value Better still, make your stored procedure parameters have defaults of NULL. Or use a Nullable<DateTime> parameter if the parameter will sometimes be a valid DateTime object

How to fix "The ConnectionString property has not been initialized"

I stumbled in the same problem while working on a web api Asp Net Core project. I followed the suggestion to change the reference in my code to:

ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NameOfTheConnectionString"].ConnectionString

but adding the reference to System.Configuration.dll caused the error "Reference not valid or not supported".

Configuration manager error

To fix the problem I had to download the package System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager using NuGet (Tools -> Nuget Package-> Manage Nuget packages for the solution)

Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.String`

With a simple generic function you can make this very easy. Just do this:

return ConvertFromDBVal<string>(accountNumber);

using the function:

public static T ConvertFromDBVal<T>(object obj)
{
    if (obj == null || obj == DBNull.Value)
    {
        return default(T); // returns the default value for the type
    }
    else
    {
        return (T)obj;
    }
}

Naming Conventions: What to name a boolean variable?

Personally more than anything I would change the logic, or look at the business rules to see if they dictate any potential naming.

Since, the actual condition that toggles the boolean is actually the act of being "last". I would say that switching the logic, and naming it "IsLastItem" or similar would be a more preferred method.

Check if number is decimal

        if ($fraction > 0)
            // do sth
        else
        // if integer
            // do sth
}
else

Range with step of type float

Here is a special case that might be good enough:

 [ (1.0/divStep)*x for x in range(start*divStep, stop*divStep)]

In your case this would be:

#for(float x = 0; x < 10; x += 0.5f) { /* ... */ } ==>
start = 0
stop  = 10
divstep = 1/.5 = 2 #This needs to be int, thats why I said 'special case'

and so:

>>> [ .5*x for x in range(0*2, 10*2)]
[0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.0, 9.5]

Trying to load local JSON file to show data in a html page using JQuery

As the jQuery API says: "Load JSON-encoded data from the server using a GET HTTP request."

http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.getJSON/

So you cannot load a local file with that function. But as you browse the web then you will see that loading a file from filesystem is really difficult in javascript as the following thread says:

Replace a value if null or undefined in JavaScript

ES2020 Answer

The new Nullish Coalescing Operator, is finally available on JavaScript, though browser support is limited. According to the data from caniuse, only 48.34% of browsers are supported (as of April 2020).

According to the documentation,

The nullish coalescing operator (??) is a logical operator that returns its right-hand side operand when its left-hand side operand is null or undefined, and otherwise returns its left-hand side operand.

const options={
  filters:{
    firstName:'abc'
  }
};
const filter = options.filters[0] ?? '';
const filter2 = options.filters[1] ?? '';

This will ensure that both of your variables will have a fallback value of '' if filters[0] or filters[1] are null, or undefined.

Do take note that the nullish coalescing operator does not return the default value for other types of falsy value such as 0 and ''. If you wish to account for all falsy values, you should be using the OR operator ||.

Python Pandas User Warning: Sorting because non-concatenation axis is not aligned

tl;dr:

concat and append currently sort the non-concatenation index (e.g. columns if you're adding rows) if the columns don't match. In pandas 0.23 this started generating a warning; pass the parameter sort=True to silence it. In the future the default will change to not sort, so it's best to specify either sort=True or False now, or better yet ensure that your non-concatenation indices match.

The warning is new in pandas 0.23.0:

In a future version of pandas pandas.concat() and DataFrame.append() will no longer sort the non-concatenation axis when it is not already aligned. The current behavior is the same as the previous (sorting), but now a warning is issued when sort is not specified and the non-concatenation axis is not aligned, link.

More information from linked very old github issue, comment by smcinerney :

When concat'ing DataFrames, the column names get alphanumerically sorted if there are any differences between them. If they're identical across DataFrames, they don't get sorted.

This sort is undocumented and unwanted. Certainly the default behavior should be no-sort.

After some time the parameter sort was implemented in pandas.concat and DataFrame.append:

sort : boolean, default None

Sort non-concatenation axis if it is not already aligned when join is 'outer'. The current default of sorting is deprecated and will change to not-sorting in a future version of pandas.

Explicitly pass sort=True to silence the warning and sort. Explicitly pass sort=False to silence the warning and not sort.

This has no effect when join='inner', which already preserves the order of the non-concatenation axis.

So if both DataFrames have the same columns in the same order, there is no warning and no sorting:

df1 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [1, 2], "b": [0, 8]}, columns=['a', 'b'])
df2 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [4, 5], "b": [7, 3]}, columns=['a', 'b'])

print (pd.concat([df1, df2]))
   a  b
0  1  0
1  2  8
0  4  7
1  5  3

df1 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [1, 2], "b": [0, 8]}, columns=['b', 'a'])
df2 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [4, 5], "b": [7, 3]}, columns=['b', 'a'])

print (pd.concat([df1, df2]))
   b  a
0  0  1
1  8  2
0  7  4
1  3  5

But if the DataFrames have different columns, or the same columns in a different order, pandas returns a warning if no parameter sort is explicitly set (sort=None is the default value):

df1 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [1, 2], "b": [0, 8]}, columns=['b', 'a'])
df2 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [4, 5], "b": [7, 3]}, columns=['a', 'b'])

print (pd.concat([df1, df2]))

FutureWarning: Sorting because non-concatenation axis is not aligned.

   a  b
0  1  0
1  2  8
0  4  7
1  5  3

print (pd.concat([df1, df2], sort=True))
   a  b
0  1  0
1  2  8
0  4  7
1  5  3

print (pd.concat([df1, df2], sort=False))
   b  a
0  0  1
1  8  2
0  7  4
1  3  5

If the DataFrames have different columns, but the first columns are aligned - they will be correctly assigned to each other (columns a and b from df1 with a and b from df2 in the example below) because they exist in both. For other columns that exist in one but not both DataFrames, missing values are created.

Lastly, if you pass sort=True, columns are sorted alphanumerically. If sort=False and the second DafaFrame has columns that are not in the first, they are appended to the end with no sorting:

df1 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [1, 2], "b": [0, 8], 'e':[5, 0]},
                    columns=['b', 'a','e'])
df2 = pd.DataFrame({"a": [4, 5], "b": [7, 3], 'c':[2, 8], 'd':[7, 0]},
                    columns=['c','b','a','d'])

print (pd.concat([df1, df2]))

FutureWarning: Sorting because non-concatenation axis is not aligned.

   a  b    c    d    e
0  1  0  NaN  NaN  5.0
1  2  8  NaN  NaN  0.0
0  4  7  2.0  7.0  NaN

print (pd.concat([df1, df2], sort=True))

1  2  8  NaN  NaN  0.0

print (pd.concat([df1, df2], sort=False))

0  0  1  5.0  NaN  NaN
1  8  2  0.0  NaN  NaN
0  7  4  NaN  2.0  7.0
1  3  5  NaN  8.0  0.0

In your code:

placement_by_video_summary = placement_by_video_summary.drop(placement_by_video_summary_new.index)
                                                       .append(placement_by_video_summary_new, sort=True)

How to enable DataGridView sorting when user clicks on the column header?

there is quite simply solution when using Entity Framework (version 6 in this case). I'm not sure but it seems to ObservableCollectionExtensions.ToBindingList<T> method returns implementation of sortable binding list. I haven't found source code to confirm this supposition but object returning from this method works with DataGridView very well especially when sorting columns by clicking on its headers.

The code is very simply and relies only on .net and entity framework classes:

using System.Data.Entity;

IEnumerable<Item> items = MethodCreatingItems();

var observableItems = new System.Collections.ObjectModel.ObservableCollection<Item>(items);
System.ComponentModel.BindingList<Item> source = observableItems.ToBindingList();

MyDataGridView.DataSource = source;

How to check visibility of software keyboard in Android?

In addition to the correct answer I had to add this at the end of the onCreateView when using a webview inside a fragment.

getActivity().getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_ADJUST_PAN);

May be is because I am running a Webview inside a fragment or maybe a new behavior on API 30, my issue was that the height of the fragment was never altered even if the keyboard was being shown.

So for Fragment the entire code should be

@Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    View view = super.onCreateView(inflater, container, savedInstanceState);
    //mWebView.postUrl("https://www.google.com/");
    final View activityRootView = view;
    layoutListener = new ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener() {
        @Override
        public void onGlobalLayout() {
            Rect r = new Rect();
            //r will be populated with the coordinates of your view that area still visible.
            activityRootView.getWindowVisibleDisplayFrame(r);
            // This variable was created only for Debug purposes and
            // to see the height change when clicking on a field inside mWebView
            int screenHeight = activityRootView.getRootView().getHeight();
            Log.d("onGlobalLayout", "rect: " + r.toString());
            Log.d("onGlobalLayout", "screenHeight: " + screenHeight);

            //The difference on the heights from bottom to top and on the root height
            int heightDiff = screenHeight - (r.bottom - r.top);
            Log.d("onGlobalLayout", "heightDiff: " + heightDiff);

            //I suggest to put 250 on resources to have better order
            float dpx = dpToPx(getActivity(), 250);

            if (previousHeightDiff != heightDiff) {
                if (heightDiff > dpx) {

                previousHeightDiff = heightDiff;
            }

Node.js: How to send headers with form data using request module?

I think it's just because you have forgot HTTP METHOD. The default HTTP method of request is GET.

You should add method: 'POST' and your code will work if your backend receive the post method.

var req = require('request');

req.post({
   url: 'someUrl',
   form: { username: 'user', password: '', opaque: 'someValue', logintype: '1'},
   headers: {
      'User-Agent': 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/27.0.1453.110 Safari/537.36',
      'Content-Type' : 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'
   },
   method: 'POST'
  },

  function (e, r, body) {
      console.log(body);
  });

Type.GetType("namespace.a.b.ClassName") returns null

As Type.GetType(String) need the Type.AssemblyQualifiedName you should use Assembly.CreateQualifiedName(String, String).

string typeName = "MyNamespace.MyClass"; // Type.FullName
string assemblyName = "MyAssemblyName"; // MyAssembly.FullName or MyAssembly.GetName().Name
string assemblyQualifiedName = Assembly.CreateQualifiedName(assemblyName , typeName);
Type myClassType = Type.GetType(assemblyQualifiedName);

The Version, Culture and PublicKeyToken are not required for assemblyName that's why you can use MyAssembly.GetName().Name.

About Type.GetType(String) :

If the type is in the currently executing assembly or in Mscorlib.dll, it is sufficient to supply the type name qualified by its namespace.

How can I create tests in Android Studio?

As of now (studio 0.61) maintaining proper project structure is enough. No need to create separate test project as in eclipse (see below).

Tests structure

CSS override rules and specificity

To give the second rule higher specificity you can always use parts of the first rule. In this case I would add table.rule1 trfrom rule one and add it to rule two.

table.rule1 tr td {
    background-color: #ff0000;
}

table.rule1 tr td.rule2 {
    background-color: #ffff00;
}

After a while I find this gets natural, but I know some people disagree. For those people I would suggest looking into LESS or SASS.

In short, yes. But there are times when you might favor one vs. the other. Google "case switch vs. if else". There are some discussions already on SO too. Also, here is a good video that talks about it in the context of MATLAB:

http://blogs.mathworks.com/pick/2008/01/02/matlab-basics-switch-case-vs-if-elseif/

Personally, when I have 3 or more cases, I usually just go with case/switch.

Count character occurrences in a string in C++

You name it... Lambda version... :)

using namespace boost::lambda;

std::string s = "a_b_c";
std::cout << std::count_if (s.begin(), s.end(), _1 == '_') << std::endl;

You need several includes... I leave you that as an exercise...

Changing Font Size For UITableView Section Headers

Swift 2.0:

  1. Replace default section header with fully customisable UILabel.

Implement viewForHeaderInSection, like so:

  override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, viewForHeaderInSection section: Int) -> UIView? {

    let sectionTitle: String = self.tableView(tableView, titleForHeaderInSection: section)!
    if sectionTitle == "" {
      return nil
    }

    let title: UILabel = UILabel()

    title.text = sectionTitle
    title.textColor = UIColor(red: 0.0, green: 0.54, blue: 0.0, alpha: 0.8)
    title.backgroundColor = UIColor.clearColor()
    title.font = UIFont.boldSystemFontOfSize(15)

    return title
  }
  1. Alter the default header (retains default).

Implement willDisplayHeaderView, like so:

  override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, willDisplayHeaderView view: UIView, forSection section: Int) {

    if let view = view as? UITableViewHeaderFooterView {
      view.backgroundView?.backgroundColor = UIColor.blueColor()
      view.textLabel!.backgroundColor = UIColor.clearColor()
      view.textLabel!.textColor = UIColor.whiteColor()
      view.textLabel!.font = UIFont.boldSystemFontOfSize(15)
    }
  }

Remember: If you're using static cells, the first section header is padded higher than other section headers due to the top of the UITableView; to fix this:

Implement heightForHeaderInSection, like so:

  override func tableView(tableView: UITableView, heightForHeaderInSection section: Int) -> CGFloat {

    return 30.0 // Or whatever height you want!
  }

How to increase executionTimeout for a long-running query?

Execution Timeout is 90 seconds for .NET Framework 1.0 and 1.1, 110 seconds otherwise.

If you need to change defult settings you need to do it in your web.config under <httpRuntime>

<httpRuntime executionTimeout = "number(in seconds)"/>

But Remember:

This time-out applies only if the debug attribute in the compilation element is False.

Have look at in detail about compilation Element

Difference between Visibility.Collapsed and Visibility.Hidden

Visibility : Hidden Vs Collapsed

Consider following code which only shows three Labels and has second Label visibility as Collapsed:

 <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" VerticalAlignment="Top" HorizontalAlignment="Center">
    <StackPanel.Resources>
        <Style TargetType="Label">
            <Setter Property="Height" Value="30" />
            <Setter Property="Margin" Value="0"/>
            <Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="Black"/>
            <Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="1" />
        </Style>
    </StackPanel.Resources>
    <Label Width="50" Content="First"/>
    <Label Width="50" Content="Second" Visibility="Collapsed"/>
    <Label Width="50" Content="Third"/>
</StackPanel>

Output Collapsed:

Collapsed

Now change the second Label visibility to Hiddden.

<Label Width="50" Content="Second" Visibility="Hidden"/>

Output Hidden:

Hidden

As simple as that.

Launching a website via windows commandline

This worked for me:

This will open https://www.google.com/ in your default browser.

How can I make this try_files directive work?

a very common try_files line which can be applied on your condition is

location / {
    try_files $uri $uri/ /test/index.html;
}

you probably understand the first part, location / matches all locations, unless it's matched by a more specific location, like location /test for example

The second part ( the try_files ) means when you receive a URI that's matched by this block try $uri first, for example http://example.com/images/image.jpg nginx will try to check if there's a file inside /images called image.jpg if found it will serve it first.

Second condition is $uri/ which means if you didn't find the first condition $uri try the URI as a directory, for example http://example.com/images/, ngixn will first check if a file called images exists then it wont find it, then goes to second check $uri/ and see if there's a directory called images exists then it will try serving it.

Side note: if you don't have autoindex on you'll probably get a 403 forbidden error, because directory listing is forbidden by default.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that if you have index defined, nginx will try to check if the index exists inside this folder before trying directory listing.

Third condition /test/index.html is considered a fall back option, (you need to use at least 2 options, one and a fall back), you can use as much as you can (never read of a constriction before), nginx will look for the file index.html inside the folder test and serve it if it exists.

If the third condition fails too, then nginx will serve the 404 error page.

Also there's something called named locations, like this

location @error {
}

You can call it with try_files like this

try_files $uri $uri/ @error;

TIP: If you only have 1 condition you want to serve, like for example inside folder images you only want to either serve the image or go to 404 error, you can write a line like this

location /images {
    try_files $uri =404;
}

which means either serve the file or serve a 404 error, you can't use only $uri by it self without =404 because you need to have a fallback option.
You can also choose which ever error code you want, like for example:

location /images {
    try_files $uri =403;
}

This will show a forbidden error if the image doesn't exist, or if you use 500 it will show server error, etc ..

Filtering a list based on a list of booleans

You're looking for itertools.compress:

>>> from itertools import compress
>>> list_a = [1, 2, 4, 6]
>>> fil = [True, False, True, False]
>>> list(compress(list_a, fil))
[1, 4]

Timing comparisons(py3.x):

>>> list_a = [1, 2, 4, 6]
>>> fil = [True, False, True, False]
>>> %timeit list(compress(list_a, fil))
100000 loops, best of 3: 2.58 us per loop
>>> %timeit [i for (i, v) in zip(list_a, fil) if v]  #winner
100000 loops, best of 3: 1.98 us per loop

>>> list_a = [1, 2, 4, 6]*100
>>> fil = [True, False, True, False]*100
>>> %timeit list(compress(list_a, fil))              #winner
10000 loops, best of 3: 24.3 us per loop
>>> %timeit [i for (i, v) in zip(list_a, fil) if v]
10000 loops, best of 3: 82 us per loop

>>> list_a = [1, 2, 4, 6]*10000
>>> fil = [True, False, True, False]*10000
>>> %timeit list(compress(list_a, fil))              #winner
1000 loops, best of 3: 1.66 ms per loop
>>> %timeit [i for (i, v) in zip(list_a, fil) if v]
100 loops, best of 3: 7.65 ms per loop

Don't use filter as a variable name, it is a built-in function.

how to set ulimit / file descriptor on docker container the image tag is phusion/baseimage-docker

The latest docker supports setting ulimits through the command line and the API. For instance, docker run takes --ulimit <type>=<soft>:<hard> and there can be as many of these as you like. So, for your nofile, an example would be --ulimit nofile=262144:262144

How to set border's thickness in percentages?

How to jump back to NERDTree from file in tab?

The top answers here mention using T to open a file in a new tab silently, or Ctrl+WW to hop back to nerd-tree window after file is opened normally.

IF WORKING WITH BUFFERS: use go to open a file in a new buffer, silently, meaning your focus will remain on nerd-tree.

Use this to open multiple files fast :)

Getting a Request.Headers value

string strHeader = Request.Headers["XYZComponent"]
bool bHeader = Boolean.TryParse(strHeader, out bHeader ) && bHeader;

or

string strHeader = Request.Headers["XYZComponent"]
bool b;
bool? bHeader = Boolean.TryParse(strHeader, out b) ? b : default(bool?);

if "true" than true
if "false" than false
else ("fooBar") than null

How to resize array in C++?

The size of an array is static in C++. You cannot dynamically resize it. That's what std::vector is for:

std::vector<int> v; // size of the vector starts at 0

v.push_back(10); // v now has 1 element
v.push_back(20); // v now has 2 elements
v.push_back(30); // v now has 3 elements

v.pop_back(); // removes the 30 and resizes v to 2

v.resize(v.size() - 1); // resizes v to 1

How to return the output of stored procedure into a variable in sql server

That depends on the nature of the information you want to return.

If it is a single integer value, you can use the return statement

 create proc myproc
 as
 begin
     return 1
 end
 go
 declare @i int
 exec @i = myproc

If you have a non integer value, or a number of scalar values, you can use output parameters

create proc myproc
  @a int output,
  @b varchar(50) output
as
begin
  select @a = 1, @b='hello'
end
go
declare @i int, @j varchar(50)
exec myproc @i output, @j output

If you want to return a dataset, you can use insert exec

create proc myproc
as
begin
     select name from sysobjects
end
go

declare @t table (name varchar(100))
insert @t (name)
exec myproc

You can even return a cursor but that's just horrid so I shan't give an example :)

What is the (function() { } )() construct in JavaScript?

An immediately invoked function expression (IIFE) is a function that's executed as soon as it's created. It has no connection with any events or asynchronous execution. You can define an IIFE as shown below:

(function() {
     // all your code here
     // ...
})();

The first pair of parentheses function(){...} converts the code inside the parentheses into an expression.The second pair of parentheses calls the function resulting from the expression.

An IIFE can also be described as a self-invoking anonymous function. Its most common usage is to limit the scope of a variable made via var or to encapsulate context to avoid name collisions.

Check if starting characters of a string are alphabetical in T-SQL

Mixing C# & VB In The Same Project

As others have said, you can't put both in one project. However, if you just have a small piece of C# or VB code that you want to include in a project in the other language, there are automatic conversion tools. They're not perfect, but they do most things pretty well. Also, SharpDevelop has a conversion utility built in.

Convert String to java.util.Date

I think your date format does not make sense. There is no 13:00 PM. Remove the "aaa" at the end of your format or turn the HH into hh.

Nevertheless, this works fine for me:

String testDate = "29-Apr-2010,13:00:14 PM";
DateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("d-MMM-yyyy,HH:mm:ss aaa");
Date date = formatter.parse(testDate);
System.out.println(date);

It prints "Thu Apr 29 13:00:14 CEST 2010".

How to add manifest permission to an application?

Copy the following line to your application manifest file and paste before the <application> tag.

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/>

Placing the permission below the <application/> tag will work, but will give you warning. So take care to place it before the <application/> tag declaration.

Easiest way to detect Internet connection on iOS?

It is possible and it is really simple if you look at it when finishing the implementation, which is again - very simple, since the only items you need are two boolean variables: internet reachability and host reachability (you often need more than one of these). Once you assemble your helper class that can determine the connections status, you really don't care again of the implementation needed for knowing these procedures.

Example:

#import <Foundation/Foundation.h>

@class Reachability;

@interface ConnectionManager : NSObject {
    Reachability *internetReachable;
    Reachability *hostReachable;
}

@property BOOL internetActive;
@property BOOL hostActive;

- (void) checkNetworkStatus:(NSNotification *)notice;

@end

And the .m file:

#import "ConnectionManager.h"
#import "Reachability.h"

@implementation ConnectionManager
@synthesize internetActive, hostActive;

-(id)init {
    self = [super init];
    if(self) {

    }
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(checkNetworkStatus:) name:kReachabilityChangedNotification object:nil];

    internetReachable = [[Reachability reachabilityForInternetConnection] retain];
    [internetReachable startNotifier];

    hostReachable = [[Reachability reachabilityWithHostName:@"www.apple.com"] retain];
    [hostReachable startNotifier];

    return self;
}

- (void) checkNetworkStatus:(NSNotification *)notice {
    NetworkStatus internetStatus = [internetReachable currentReachabilityStatus];
    switch (internetStatus)

    {
        case NotReachable:
        {
            NSLog(@"The internet is down.");
            self.internetActive = NO;

            break;

        }
        case ReachableViaWiFi:
        {
            NSLog(@"The internet is working via WIFI.");
            self.internetActive = YES;

            break;

        }
        case ReachableViaWWAN:
        {
            NSLog(@"The internet is working via WWAN.");
            self.internetActive = YES;

            break;

        }
    }

    NetworkStatus hostStatus = [hostReachable currentReachabilityStatus];
    switch (hostStatus)

    {
        case NotReachable:
        {
            NSLog(@"A gateway to the host server is down.");
            self.hostActive = NO;

            break;

        }
        case ReachableViaWiFi:
        {
            NSLog(@"A gateway to the host server is working via WIFI.");
            self.hostActive = YES;

            break;

        }
        case ReachableViaWWAN:
        {
            NSLog(@"A gateway to the host server is working via WWAN.");
            self.hostActive = YES;

            break;

        }
    }

}

// If lower than SDK 5 : Otherwise, remove the observer as pleased.

How do I retrieve a textbox value using JQuery?

You need to use the val() function to get the textbox value. text does not exist as a property only as a function and even then its not the correct function to use in this situation.

var from = $("input#fromAddress").val()

val() is the standard function for getting the value of an input.

Open URL in Java to get the content

I found this question while Googling. Note that if you just want to make use of the URI's content via something like a string, consider using Apache's IOUtils.toString() method.

For example, a sample line of code could be:

String pageContent = IOUtils.toString("http://maps.google.at/maps?saddr=4714&daddr=Marchtrenk&hl=de", Charset.UTF_8);

How do I import a .bak file into Microsoft SQL Server 2012?

How to restart Activity in Android

I did my theme switcher like this:

Intent intent = getIntent();
finish();
startActivity(intent);

Basically, I'm calling finish() first, and I'm using the exact same intent this activity was started with. That seems to do the trick?

UPDATE: As pointed out by Ralf below, Activity.recreate() is the way to go in API 11 and beyond. This is preferable if you're in an API11+ environment. You can still check the current version and call the code snippet above if you're in API 10 or below. (Please don't forget to upvote Ralf's answer!)

mysql query: SELECT DISTINCT column1, GROUP BY column2

Replacing FROM tablename with FROM (SELECT DISTINCT * FROM tablename) should give you the result you want (ignoring duplicated rows) for example:

SELECT name, COUNT(*)
FROM (SELECT DISTINCT * FROM Table1) AS T1
GROUP BY name

Result for your test data:

dave 2
mark 2

jQuery preventDefault() not triggered

Try this:

$("div.subtab_left li.notebook a").click(function(e) {
    e.preventDefault();
});

What does "select count(1) from table_name" on any database tables mean?

Here is a link that will help answer your questions. In short:

count(*) is the correct way to write it and count(1) is OPTIMIZED TO BE count(*) internally -- since

a) count the rows where 1 is not null is less efficient than
b) count the rows

How do I add options to a DropDownList using jQuery?

Pease note @Phrogz's solution doesn't work in IE 8 while @nickf's works in all major browsers. Another approach is:

$.each(myOptions, function(val, text) {
    $("#mySelect").append($("&lt;option/&gt;").attr("value", val).text(text));
});

When should I use nil and NULL in Objective-C?

nil is an empty value bound/corresponding with an object (the id type in Objective-C). nil got no reference/address, just an empty value.

NSString *str = nil;

So nil should be used, if we are dealing with an object.

if(str==nil)
    NSLog("str is empty");

Now NULL is used for non-object pointer (like a C pointer) in Objective-C. Like nil , NULL got no value nor address.

char *myChar = NULL;
struct MyStruct *dStruct = NULL;

So if there is a situation, when I need to check my struct (structure type variable) is empty or not then, I will use:

if (dStruct == NULL)
    NSLog("The struct is empty");

Let’s have another example, the

- (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context

Of key-value observing, the context should be a C pointer or an object reference. Here for the context we can not use nil; we have to use NULL.

Finally the NSNull class defines a singleton object used to represent null values in collection objects(NSArray, NSDictionary). The [NSNull null] will returns the singleton instance of NSNull. Basically [NSNull null] is a proper object.

There is no way to insert a nil object into a collection type object. Let's have an example:

NSMutableArray *check = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
[check addObject:[NSNull null]];
[check addObject:nil];

On the second line, we will not get any error, because it is perfectly fair to insert a NSNull object into a collection type object. On the third line, we will get "object cannot be nil" error. Because nil is not an object.

How to clone all remote branches in Git?

A better alternative solution for developers using vscode is to use Git Shadow Extension. This vscode extension allows cloning repository content and directories, that can be filtered by branch name or commit hash. That way, branches or commits can be used as boilerplates/templates for new projects.

Connect Android Studio with SVN

You should open File/Settings/Version Control/Subversion and uncheck 3 options: Use command line client, Use system default Subversion configuration directory and Use system default Subversion configuration directory like http://screencast.com/t/rlh9H2WVpgo

And then go to network tab. Choose SSLv3 instead of All in the field SSL protocols like http://screencast.com/t/l5yw1jqOxV

Lastly, check in or out your source via svn. It works well

Batch file FOR /f tokens

for /f "tokens=* delims= " %%f in (myfile) do

This reads a file line-by-line, removing leading spaces (thanks, jeb).

set line=%%f

sets then the line variable to the line just read and

call :procesToken

calls a subroutine that does something with the line

:processToken

is the start of the subroutine mentioned above.

for /f "tokens=1* delims=/" %%a in ("%line%") do

will then split the line at /, but stopping tokenization after the first token.

echo Got one token: %%a

will output that first token and

set line=%%b

will set the line variable to the rest of the line.

if not "%line%" == "" goto :processToken

And if line isn't yet empty (i.e. all tokens processed), it returns to the start, continuing with the rest of the line.

How to create a pulse effect using -webkit-animation - outward rings

You have a lot of unnecessary keyframes. Don't think of keyframes as individual frames, think of them as "steps" in your animation and the computer fills in the frames between the keyframes.

Here is a solution that cleans up a lot of code and makes the animation start from the center:

.gps_ring {
    border: 3px solid #999;
    -webkit-border-radius: 30px;
    height: 18px;
    width: 18px;
    position: absolute;
    left:20px;
    top:214px;
    -webkit-animation: pulsate 1s ease-out;
    -webkit-animation-iteration-count: infinite;
    opacity: 0.0
}
@-webkit-keyframes pulsate {
    0% {-webkit-transform: scale(0.1, 0.1); opacity: 0.0;}
    50% {opacity: 1.0;}
    100% {-webkit-transform: scale(1.2, 1.2); opacity: 0.0;}
}

std::queue iteration

While I agree with others that direct use of an iterable container is a preferred solution, I want to point out that the C++ standard guarantees enough support for a do-it-yourself solution in case you want it for whatever reason.

Namely, you can inherit from std::queue and use its protected member Container c; to access begin() and end() of the underlying container (provided that such methods exist there). Here is an example that works in VS 2010 and tested with ideone:

#include <queue>
#include <deque>
#include <iostream>

template<typename T, typename Container=std::deque<T> >
class iterable_queue : public std::queue<T,Container>
{
public:
    typedef typename Container::iterator iterator;
    typedef typename Container::const_iterator const_iterator;

    iterator begin() { return this->c.begin(); }
    iterator end() { return this->c.end(); }
    const_iterator begin() const { return this->c.begin(); }
    const_iterator end() const { return this->c.end(); }
};

int main() {
    iterable_queue<int> int_queue;
    for(int i=0; i<10; ++i)
        int_queue.push(i);
    for(auto it=int_queue.begin(); it!=int_queue.end();++it)
        std::cout << *it << "\n";
    return 0;
}

How do I make an auto increment integer field in Django?

Edited: Fixed mistake in code that stopped it working if there were no YourModel entries in the db.

There's a lot of mention of how you should use an AutoField, and of course, where possible you should use that.

However there are legitimate reasons for implementing auto-incrementing fields yourself (such as if you need an id to start from 500 or increment by tens for whatever reason).

In your models.py

from django.db import models

def from_500():
    '''
    Returns the next default value for the `ones` field,
    starts from 500
    '''
    # Retrieve a list of `YourModel` instances, sort them by
    # the `ones` field and get the largest entry
    largest = YourModel.objects.all().order_by('ones').last()
    if not largest:
        # largest is `None` if `YourModel` has no instances
        # in which case we return the start value of 500
        return 500
    # If an instance of `YourModel` is returned, we get it's
    # `ones` attribute and increment it by 1
    return largest.ones + 1

def add_ten():
    ''' Returns the next default value for the `tens` field'''
    # Retrieve a list of `YourModel` instances, sort them by
    # the `tens` field and get the largest entry
    largest = YourModel.objects.all().order_by('tens').last()

Log4j: How to configure simplest possible file logging?

Here's a simple one that I often use:

# Set up logging to include a file record of the output
# Note: the file is always created, even if there is
# no actual output.
log4j.rootLogger=error, stdout, R

# Log format to standard out
log4j.appender.stdout=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
log4j.appender.stdout.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.stdout.layout.ConversionPattern=   %5p\t[%d] [%t] (%F:%L)\n     \t%m%n\n

# File based log output
log4j.appender.R=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
log4j.appender.R.File=owls_conditions.log
log4j.appender.R.MaxFileSize=10000KB
# Keep one backup file
log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=1
log4j.appender.R.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
log4j.appender.R.layout.ConversionPattern=   %5p\t[%d] [%t] (%F:%L)\n     \t%m%n\n

The format of the log is as follows:

ERROR   [2009-09-13 09:56:01,760] [main] (RDFDefaultErrorHandler.java:44)
        http://www.xfront.com/owl/ontologies/camera/#(line 1 column 1): Content is not allowed in prolog.

Such a format is defined by the string %5p\t[%d] [%t] (%F:%L)\n \t%m%n\n. You can read the meaning of conversion characters in log4j javadoc for PatternLayout.

Included comments should help in understanding what it does. Further notes:

  • it logs both to console and to file; in this case the file is named owls_conditions.log: change it according to your needs;
  • files are rotated when they reach 10000KB, and one back-up file is kept

ImportError: No module named 'Tkinter'

I think you should try this:

from tkinter import *

or

from Tkinter import *

It really depends on what type of computer you use, or what version of python you have.

Assign an initial value to radio button as checked

You can just use:

<input type="radio" checked />

Using just the attribute checked without stating a value is the same as checked="checked".

using where and inner join in mysql

You can use as many joins as you want, however, the more you use the more it will impact performance

What does += mean in Python?

a += b

is in this case the same as

a = a + b

In this case cnt += 1 means that cnt is increased by one.

Note that the code you pasted will loop indefinitely if cnt > 0 and len(aStr) > 1.

Edit: quote Carl Meyer: ``[..] the answer is misleadingly mostly correct. There is a subtle but very significant difference between + and +=, see Bastien's answer.''.

Sql query to insert datetime in SQL Server

You will want to use the YYYYMMDD for unambiguous date determination in SQL Server.

insert into table1(approvaldate)values('20120618 10:34:09 AM');

If you are married to the dd-mm-yy hh:mm:ss xm format, you will need to use CONVERT with the specific style.

insert into table1 (approvaldate)
       values (convert(datetime,'18-06-12 10:34:09 PM',5));

5 here is the style for Italian dates. Well, not just Italians, but that's the culture it's attributed to in Books Online.

Could not load type 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.ExtensionAttribute' from assembly 'mscorlib

We ran into this problem and tracked it down to the Geocoding.net NuGet package that we were using to help with our Google Maps views (Geocoding.net version 3.1.0 published 2/4/2014).

The Geocoding dll appears to be .Net 4.0 when you examine the package file or view it using Jet Brains’ Dot Peek application; however, a colleague of mine says that it was compiled using ilmerge so it is most likely related to the ilmerge problems listed above.

It was a long process to track it down. We fetched different changesets from TFS till we narrowed it down to the changeset that added the aforementioned NuGet package. After removing it, we were able to deploy to our .NET 4 server.

MySQL Server has gone away when importing large sql file

As stated here:

Two most common reasons (and fixes) for the MySQL server has gone away (error 2006) are:

Server timed out and closed the connection. How to fix:

  1. check that wait_timeout variable in your mysqld’s my.cnf configuration file is large enough. On Debian: sudo nano /etc/mysql/my.cnf, set wait_timeout = 600 seconds (you can tweak/decrease this value when error 2006 is gone), then sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart. I didn't check, but the default value for wait_timeout might be around 28800 seconds (8 hours).

  2. Server dropped an incorrect or too large packet. If mysqld gets a packet that is too large or incorrect, it assumes that something has gone wrong with the client and closes the connection. You can increase the maximal packet size limit by increasing the value of max_allowed_packet in my.cnf file. On Debian: sudo nano /etc/mysql/my.cnf, set max_allowed_packet = 64M (you can tweak/decrease this value when error 2006 is gone), then sudo /etc/init.d/mysql restart.

Edit:

Notice that MySQL option files do not have their commands already available as comments (like in php.ini for instance). So you must type any change/tweak in my.cnf or my.ini and place them in mysql/data directory or in any of the other paths, under the proper group of options such as [client], [myslqd], etc. For example:

[mysqld]
wait_timeout = 600
max_allowed_packet = 64M

Then restart the server. To get their values, type in the mysql client:

> select @@wait_timeout;
> select @@max_allowed_packet;

Can I access a form in the controller?

If you want to pass the form to the controller for validation purposes you can simply pass it as an argument to the method handling the submission. Use the form name, so for the original question it would be something like:

How do you get a query string on Flask?

Werkzeug/Flask as already parsed everything for you. No need to do the same work again with urlparse:

How do you join tables from two different SQL Server instances in one SQL query

The best way I can think of to accomplish this is via sp_addlinkedserver. You need to make sure that whatever account you use to add the link (via sp_addlinkedsrvlogin) has permissions to the table you're joining, but then once the link is established, you can call the server by name, i.e.:

SELECT *
FROM server1table
    INNER JOIN server2.database.dbo.server2table ON .....

How to convert existing non-empty directory into a Git working directory and push files to a remote repository

The simplest way of doing this which I find useful is the below.

This might not be the official way but it works well.

Suppose you have a project named "XYZ" on your PC. Now you want to make a git repo of this project on github and use its functionalities.

Step 1: go to "www.github.com"

Step 2: create a repository with a "README.md" file (name it as you like it)

Step 3: clone the repository to your PC.

Step 4: In the cloned folder you will get two things : ".git" folder and a "README.md" file. Copy these two in your project folder "XYZ".

Step 5: Delete the cloned repo.

Step 6: add, commit and push all the files and folders of your project.

Now, you can just use your project "XYZ" as a git repository.

Rails: FATAL - Peer authentication failed for user (PG::Error)

For permanent solution:

The problem is with your pg_hba. This line:

local   all             postgres                                peer

Should be

local   all             postgres                                md5

Then restart your postgresql server after changing this file.

If you're on Linux, command would be

sudo service postgresql restart

Use CSS to automatically add 'required field' asterisk to form inputs

Here is a simple "CSS only" trick I created and am using to dynamically add a red asterisk on the labels of required form elements without losing browsers' default form validation.

The following code works perfectly on all the browsers and for all the main form elements.

_x000D_
_x000D_
.form-group {
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: column;
}

label {
  order: 1;
  text-transform: capitalize;
  margin-bottom: 0.3em;
}

input,
select,
textarea {
  padding: 0.5em;
  order: 2;
}

input:required+label::after,
select:required+label::after,
textarea:required+label::after {
  content: " *";
  color: #e32;
}
_x000D_
<div class="form-group">
  <input class="form-control" name="first_name" id="first_name" type="text" placeholder="First Name" required>
  <label class="small mb-1" for="first_name">First Name</label>
</div>

<br>

<div class="form-group">
  <input class="form-control" name="last_name" id="last_name" type="text" placeholder="Last Name">
  <label class="small mb-1" for="last_name">Last Name</label>
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Important: You must preserve the order of elements that is the input element first and label element second. CSS is gonna handle it and transform it in the traditional way, that is the label first and input second.

Git error: src refspec master does not match any

The quick possible answer: When you first successfully clone an empty git repository, the origin has no master branch. So the first time you have a commit to push you must do:

git push origin master

Which will create this new master branch for you. Little things like this are very confusing with git.

If this didn't fix your issue then it's probably a gitolite-related issue:

Your conf file looks strange. There should have been an example conf file that came with your gitolite. Mine looks like this:

repo    phonegap

    RW+     =   myusername

Please make sure you're setting your conf file correctly.

Gitolite actually replaces the gitolite user's account with a modified shell that doesn't accept interactive terminal sessions. You can see if gitolite is working by trying to ssh into your box using the gitolite user account. If it knows who you are it will say something like "Hi XYZ, you have access to the following repositories: X, Y, Z" and then close the connection. If it doesn't know you, it will just close the connection.

Lastly, after your first git push failed on your local machine you should never resort to creating the repo manually on the server. We need to know why your git push failed initially. You can cause yourself and gitolite more confusion when you don't use gitolite exclusively once you've set it up.

What's the easiest way to call a function every 5 seconds in jQuery?

Just a little tip for the first answer. If your function is already defined, reference the function but don't call it!!! So don't put any parentheses after the function name. Just like:

setInterval(my_function,10000);

Linq to Sql: Multiple left outer joins

I think you should be able to follow the method used in this post. It looks really ugly, but I would think you could do it twice and get the result you want.

I wonder if this is actually a case where you'd be better off using DataContext.ExecuteCommand(...) instead of converting to linq.

javascript - replace dash (hyphen) with a space

replace() returns an new string, and the original string is not modified. You need to do

File ? Import ? Git ? Projects from Git

http://wiki.eclipse.org/images/5/5a/Egit-0.9-import-projects-select-repository.png

If the Git repo isn't cloned yet:

In> order to checkout a remote project, you will have to clone its repository first.
Open the Eclipse Import wizard (e.g. File => Import), select Git => Projects from Git and click Next.
Select “URI” and click Next.
Now you will have to enter the repository’s location and connection data. Entering the URI will automatically fill some fields. Complete any other required fields and hit Next. If you use GitHub, you can copy the URI from the web page.

Select all branches you wish to clone and hit Next again.

Hit the Clone… button to open another wizard for cloning Git repositories.

Original answer (July 2011)

First, if your "Working Directory" is C:\Users, that is odd, since it would mean you have cloned the GitHub repo directly within C:\Users (i.e. you have a .git directory in C:\Users)

Usually, you would clone a GitHub repo in "any directory of your choice\theGitHubRepoName".

As described in the EGit user Manual page:

In any case (unless you create a "bare" Repository, but that's not discussed here), the new Repository is essentially a folder on the local hard disk which contains the "working directory" and the metadata folder.
The metadata folder is a dedicated child folder named ".git" and often referred to as ".git-folder". It contains the actual repository (i.e. the Commits, the References, the logs and such).

The metadata folder is totally transparent to the Git client, while the working directory is used to expose the currently checked out Repository content as files for tools and editors.

Typically, if these files are to be used in Eclipse, they must be imported into the Eclipse workspace in one way or another. In order to do so, the easiest way would be to check in .project files from which the "Import Existing Projects" wizard can create the projects easily. Thus in most cases, the structure of a Repository containing Eclipse projects would look similar to something like this:

See also the Using EGit with Github section.

My working directory is now c:\users\projectname\.git

You should have the content of that repo checked out in c:\users\projectname (in other words, you should have more than just the .git).

So then I try to import the project using the eclipse "import" option.
When I try to import selecting the option "Use the new projects wizard", the source code is not imported.

That is normal.

If I import selecting the option "Import as general project" the source code is imported but the created project created by Eclipse is not a java project.

Again normal.

When selecting the option "Use the new projects wizard" and creating a new java project using the wizard should'nt the code be automatically imported ?

No, that would only create an empty project.
If that project is created in c:\users\projectname, you can then declare the eisting source directory in that project.
Since it is defined in the same working directory than the Git repo, that project should then appear as "versioned".

You could also use the "Import existing project" option, if your GitHub repo had versioned the .project and .classpath file, but that may not be the case here.

AVD Manager - Cannot Create Android Virtual Device

If you have changed the SDK Path somehow it will not be able to find the SDKs you installed even though it is listing them fine.

I solved by openig Android SDK Manager and in that dialog choosing the menu Tools -> Manage AVDs. And when you open Manage AVDs directly from the toolbar of Eclipse you should Refresh to see the AVD you created.

Rails 4 LIKE query - ActiveRecord adds quotes

ActiveRecord is clever enough to know that the parameter referred to by the ? is a string, and so it encloses it in single quotes. You could as one post suggests use Ruby string interpolation to pad the string with the required % symbols. However, this might expose you to SQL-injection (which is bad). I would suggest you use the SQL CONCAT() function to prepare the string like so:

"name LIKE CONCAT('%',?,'%') OR postal_code LIKE CONCAT('%',?,'%')", search, search)

Getting All Variables In Scope

You can't.

Variables, identifiers of function declarations and arguments for function code, are bound as properties of the Variable Object, which is not accesible.

How to check string length and then select substring in Sql Server

To conditionally check the length of the string, use CASE.

SELECT  CASE WHEN LEN(comments) <= 60
             THEN comments
             ELSE LEFT(comments, 60) + '...'
        END  As Comments
FROM    myView

Left-pad printf with spaces

If you want exactly 40 spaces before the string then you should just do:

printf("                                        %s\n", myStr );

If that is too dirty, you can do (but it will be slower than manually typing the 40 spaces): printf("%40s%s", "", myStr );

If you want the string to be lined up at column 40 (that is, have up to 39 spaces proceeding it such that the right most character is in column 40) then do this: printf("%40s", myStr);

You can also put "up to" 40 spaces AfTER the string by doing: printf("%-40s", myStr);

Debugging Spring configuration

If you use Spring Boot, you can also enable a “debug” mode by starting your application with a --debug flag.

java -jar myapp.jar --debug

You can also specify debug=true in your application.properties.

When the debug mode is enabled, a selection of core loggers (embedded container, Hibernate, and Spring Boot) are configured to output more information. Enabling the debug mode does not configure your application to log all messages with DEBUG level.

Alternatively, you can enable a “trace” mode by starting your application with a --trace flag (or trace=true in your application.properties). Doing so enables trace logging for a selection of core loggers (embedded container, Hibernate schema generation, and the whole Spring portfolio).

Update v8

Below answers work but exposes your application to XSS security risks!. Instead of using this.sanitizer.bypassSecurityTrustResourceUrl(url), it is recommended to use this.sanitizer.sanitize(SecurityContext.URL, url)

Update

For RC.6^ version use DomSanitizer

Plunker

And a good option is using pure pipe for that:

import { Pipe, PipeTransform } from '@angular/core';
import { DomSanitizer} from '@angular/platform-browser';

@Pipe({ name: 'safe' })
export class SafePipe implements PipeTransform {
  constructor(private sanitizer: DomSanitizer) {}
  transform(url) {
    return this.sanitizer.bypassSecurityTrustResourceUrl(url);
  }
}

remember to add your new SafePipe to the declarations array of the AppModule. (as seen on documentation)

@NgModule({
   declarations : [
     ...
     SafePipe
   ],
})

html

<iframe width="100%" height="300" [src]="url | safe"></iframe>

Plunker

If you use embed tag this might be interesting for you:

Old version RC.5

You can leverage DomSanitizationService like this:

export class YourComponent {
  url: SafeResourceUrl;
  constructor(sanitizer: DomSanitizationService) {
    this.url = sanitizer.bypassSecurityTrustResourceUrl('your url');
  }
}

And then bind to url in your template:

<iframe width="100%" height="300" [src]="url"></iframe>

Don't forget to add the following imports:

import { SafeResourceUrl, DomSanitizationService } from '@angular/platform-browser';

Plunker sample

Select elements by attribute

if ($('#A').attr('myattr')) {
    // attribute exists
} else {
    // attribute does not exist
}

EDIT:

The above will fall into the else-branch when myattr exists but is an empty string or "0". If that's a problem you should explicitly test on undefined:

if ($('#A').attr('myattr') !== undefined) {
    // attribute exists
} else {
    // attribute does not exist
}

Is there a way to create interfaces in ES6 / Node 4?

Given that ECMA is a 'class-free' language, implementing classical composition doesn't - in my eyes - make a lot of sense. The danger is that, in so doing, you are effectively attempting to re-engineer the language (and, if one feels strongly about that, there are excellent holistic solutions such as the aforementioned TypeScript that mitigate reinventing the wheel)

Now that isn't to say that composition is out of the question however in Plain Old JS. I researched this at length some time ago. The strongest candidate I have seen for handling composition within the object prototypal paradigm is stampit, which I now use across a wide range of projects. And, importantly, it adheres to a well articulated specification.

    npm install grunt-contrib-concat --save-dev

  5. Now you need to setup your Gruntfile.js which will describe your build process. For this sample I just combine two JS files file1.js and file2.js in the js folder and generate app.js:

    module.exports = function(grunt) {

        // Project configuration.
        grunt.initConfig({
            concat: {
                "options": { "separator": ";" },
                "build": {
                    "src": ["js/file1.js", "js/file2.js"],
                    "dest": "js/app.js"
                }
            }
        });

        // Load required modules
        grunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-contrib-concat');

        // Task definitions
        grunt.registerTask('default', ['concat']);
    };

  6. Now you'll be ready to run your build process by following command:

    grunt

I hope this give you an idea how to work with GruntJS build.

NOTE:

You can use grunt-init for creating Gruntfile.js if you want wizard-based creation instead of raw coding for step 5.

To do so, please follow these steps:

npm install -g grunt-init
git clone https://github.com/gruntjs/grunt-init-gruntfile.git ~/.grunt-init/gruntfile
grunt-init gruntfile

For Windows users: If you are using cmd.exe you need to change ~/.grunt-init/gruntfile to %USERPROFILE%\.grunt-init\. PowerShell will recognize the ~ correctly.

How to trigger event when a variable's value is changed?

You can use a property setter to raise an event whenever the value of a field is going to change.

You can have your own EventHandler delegate or you can use the famous System.EventHandler delegate.

Usually there's a pattern for this:

  1. Define a public event with an event handler delegate (that has an argument of type EventArgs).
  2. Define a protected virtual method called OnXXXXX (OnMyPropertyValueChanged for example). In this method you should check if the event handler delegate is null and if not you can call it (it means that there are one or more methods attached to the event delegation).
  3. Call this protected method whenever you want to notify subscribers that something has changed.

Here's an example

private int _age;

//#1
public event System.EventHandler AgeChanged;

//#2
protected virtual void OnAgeChanged()
{
     if (AgeChanged != null) AgeChanged(this,EventArgs.Empty);
}

public int Age
{
    get
    {
         return _age;
    }

    set
    {
         //#3
         _age=value;
         OnAgeChanged();
    }
 }

The advantage of this approach is that you let any other classes that want to inherit from your class to change the behavior if necessary.

If you want to catch an event in a different thread that it's being raised you must be careful not to change the state of objects that are defined in another thread which will cause a cross thread exception to be thrown. To avoid this you can either use an Invoke method on the object that you want to change its state to make sure that the change is happening in the same thread that the event has been raised or in case that you are dealing with a Windows Form you can use a BackgourndWorker to do things in a parallel thread nice and easy.

How can prepared statements protect from SQL injection attacks?

Basically, with prepared statements the data coming in from a potential hacker is treated as data - and there's no way it can be intermixed with your application SQL and/or be interpreted as SQL (which can happen when data passed in is placed directly into your application SQL).

This is because prepared statements "prepare" the SQL query first to find an efficient query plan, and send the actual values that presumably come in from a form later - at that time the query is actually executed.

How to add pandas data to an existing csv file?

This is how I did it in 2021

Let us say I have a csv sales.csv which has the following data in it:

sales.csv:

Order Name,Price,Qty
oil,200,2
butter,180,10

and to add more rows I can load them in a data frame and append it to the csv like this:

import pandas

data = [
    ['matchstick', '60', '11'],
    ['cookies', '10', '120']
]
dataframe = pandas.DataFrame(data)
dataframe.to_csv("sales.csv", index=False, mode='a', header=False)

and the output will be:

Order Name,Price,Qty
oil,200,2
butter,180,10
matchstick,60,11
cookies,10,120

Set the layout weight of a TextView programmatically

You have to use TableLayout.LayoutParams with something like this:

TextView tv = new TextView(v.getContext());
tv.setLayoutParams(new TableLayout.LayoutParams(LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT, 1f));

The last parameter is the weight.

How are Anonymous inner classes used in Java?

An inner class is associated with an instance of the outer class and there are two special kinds: Local class and Anonymous class. An anonymous class enables us to declare and instantiate a class at same time, hence makes the code concise. We use them when we need a local class only once as they don't have a name.

Consider the example from doc where we have a Person class:

public class Person {

    public enum Sex {
        MALE, FEMALE
    }

    String name;
    LocalDate birthday;
    Sex gender;
    String emailAddress;

    public int getAge() {
        // ...
    }

    public void printPerson() {
        // ...
    }
}

and we have a method to print members that match search criteria as:

public static void printPersons(
    List<Person> roster, CheckPerson tester) {
    for (Person p : roster) {
        if (tester.test(p)) {
            p.printPerson();
        }
    }
}

where CheckPerson is an interface like:

interface CheckPerson {
    boolean test(Person p);
}

Now we can make use of anonymous class which implements this interface to specify search criteria as:

printPersons(
    roster,
    new CheckPerson() {
        public boolean test(Person p) {
            return p.getGender() == Person.Sex.MALE
                && p.getAge() >= 18
                && p.getAge() <= 25;
        }
    }
);

Here the interface is very simple and the syntax of anonymous class seems unwieldy and unclear.

Java 8 has introduced a term Functional Interface which is an interface with only one abstract method, hence we can say CheckPerson is a functional interface. We can make use of Lambda Expression which allows us to pass the function as method argument as:

printPersons(
                roster,
                (Person p) -> p.getGender() == Person.Sex.MALE
                        && p.getAge() >= 18
                        && p.getAge() <= 25
        );

We can use a standard functional interface Predicate in place of the interface CheckPerson, which will further reduce the amount of code required.

how to permit an array with strong parameters

It should be like

params.permit(:id => [])

Also since rails version 4+ you can use:

params.permit(id: [])

Executing a command stored in a variable from PowerShell

Try invoking your command with Invoke-Expression:

Invoke-Expression $cmd1

Here is a working example on my machine:

$cmd = "& 'C:\Program Files\7-zip\7z.exe' a -tzip c:\temp\test.zip c:\temp\test.txt"
Invoke-Expression $cmd

iex is an alias for Invoke-Expression so you could do:

iex $cmd1

C++ Erase vector element by value rather than by position?

You can use std::find to get an iterator to a value:

#include <algorithm>
std::vector<int>::iterator position = std::find(myVector.begin(), myVector.end(), 8);
if (position != myVector.end()) // == myVector.end() means the element was not found
    myVector.erase(position);

How to change the order of DataFrame columns?

One easy way would be to reassign the dataframe with a list of the columns, rearranged as needed.

This is what you have now:

In [6]: df
Out[6]:

In [7]: cols = df.columns.tolist()

In [8]: cols
Out[8]: [0L, 1L, 2L, 3L, 4L, 'mean']

Rearrange cols in any way you want. This is how I moved the last element to the first position:

In [12]: cols = cols[-1:] + cols[:-1]

In [13]: cols
Out[13]: ['mean', 0L, 1L, 2L, 3L, 4L]

Then reorder the dataframe like this:

In [16]: df = df[cols]  #    OR    df = df.ix[:, cols]

In [17]: df
Out[17]:
       mean         0         1         2         3         4
0  0.445543  0.445598  0.173835  0.343415  0.682252  0.582616

How to execute Table valued function

You can execute it just as you select a table using SELECT clause. In addition you can provide parameters within parentheses.

Try with below syntax:

SELECT * FROM yourFunctionName(parameter1, parameter2)

Can an abstract class have a constructor?

Yes, Abstract Classes can have constructors !

Here is an example using constructor in abstract class:

abstract class Figure {

    double dim1;
    double dim2;

    Figure(double a, double b) {
        dim1 = a;
        dim2 = b;
    }

    // area is now an abstract method

   abstract double area();

}

class Rectangle extends Figure {
    Rectangle(double a, double b) {
        super(a, b);
    }
    // override area for rectangle
    double area() {
        System.out.println("Inside Area for Rectangle.");
        return dim1 * dim2;
    }
}

class Triangle extends Figure {
    Triangle(double a, double b) {
        super(a, b);
    }
    // override area for right triangle
    double area() {
        System.out.println("Inside Area for Triangle.");
        return dim1 * dim2 / 2;
    }
}

class AbstractAreas {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
        // Figure f = new Figure(10, 10); // illegal now
        Rectangle r = new Rectangle(9, 5);
        Triangle t = new Triangle(10, 8);
        Figure figref; // this is OK, no object is created
        figref = r;
        System.out.println("Area is " + figref.area());
        figref = t;
        System.out.println("Area is " + figref.area());
    }
}

So I think you got the answer.

Return zero if no record is found

I'm not familiar with postgresql, but in SQL Server or Oracle, using a subquery would work like below (in Oracle, the SELECT 0 would be SELECT 0 FROM DUAL)

SELECT SUM(sub.value)
FROM
(
  SELECT SUM(columnA) as value FROM my_table
  WHERE columnB = 1
  UNION
  SELECT 0 as value
) sub

Maybe this would work for postgresql too?

How to specify credentials when connecting to boto3 S3?

This is older but placing this here for my reference too. boto3.resource is just implementing the default Session, you can pass through boto3.resource session details.

Help on function resource in module boto3:

resource(*args, **kwargs)
    Create a resource service client by name using the default session.

    See :py:meth:`boto3.session.Session.resource`.

https://github.com/boto/boto3/blob/86392b5ca26da57ce6a776365a52d3cab8487d60/boto3/session.py#L265

you can see that it just takes the same arguments as Boto3.Session

import boto3
S3 = boto3.resource('s3', region_name='us-west-2', aws_access_key_id=settings.AWS_SERVER_PUBLIC_KEY, aws_secret_access_key=settings.AWS_SERVER_SECRET_KEY)
S3.Object( bucket_name, key_name ).delete()

How to watch and compile all TypeScript sources?

Look into using grunt to automate this, there are numerous tutorials around, but here's a quick start.

For a folder structure like:

blah/
blah/one.ts
blah/two.ts
blah/example/
blah/example/example.ts
blah/example/package.json
blah/example/Gruntfile.js
blah/example/index.html

You can watch and work with typescript easily from the example folder with:

npm install
grunt

With package.json:

{
  "name": "PROJECT",
  "version": "0.0.1",
  "author": "",
  "description": "",
  "homepage": "",
  "private": true,
  "devDependencies": {
    "typescript": "~0.9.5",
    "connect": "~2.12.0",
    "grunt-ts": "~1.6.4",
    "grunt-contrib-watch": "~0.5.3",
    "grunt-contrib-connect": "~0.6.0",
    "grunt-open": "~0.2.3"
  }
}

And a grunt file:

module.exports = function (grunt) {

  // Import dependencies
  grunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-contrib-watch');
  grunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-contrib-connect');
  grunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-open');
  grunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-ts');

  grunt.initConfig({
    pkg: grunt.file.readJSON('package.json'),
    connect: {
      server: {  // <--- Run a local server on :8089
        options: {
          port: 8089,
          base: './'
        }
      }
    },
    ts: {
      lib: { // <-- compile all the files in ../ to PROJECT.js
        src: ['../*.ts'],
        out: 'PROJECT.js',
        options: {
          target: 'es3',
          sourceMaps: false,
          declaration: true,
          removeComments: false
        }
      },
      example: {  // <--- compile all the files in . to example.js
        src: ['*.ts'],
        out: 'example.js',
        options: {
          target: 'es3',
          sourceMaps: false,
          declaration: false,
          removeComments: false
        }
      }
    },
    watch: {
      lib: { // <-- Watch for changes on the library and rebuild both
        files: '../*.ts',
        tasks: ['ts:lib', 'ts:example']
      },
      example: { // <--- Watch for change on example and rebuild
        files: ['*.ts', '!*.d.ts'],
        tasks: ['ts:example']
      }
    },
    open: { // <--- Launch index.html in browser when you run grunt
      dev: {
        path: 'http://localhost:8089/index.html'
      }
    }
  });

  // Register the default tasks to run when you run grunt
  grunt.registerTask('default', ['ts', 'connect', 'open', 'watch']);

How can I exclude one word with grep?

grep provides '-v' or '--invert-match' option to select non-matching lines.

e.g.

grep -v 'unwanted_pattern' file_name

This will output all the lines from file file_name, which does not have 'unwanted_pattern'.

If you are searching the pattern in multiple files inside a folder, you can use the recursive search option as follows

grep -r 'wanted_pattern' * | grep -v 'unwanted_pattern'

Here grep will try to list all the occurrences of 'wanted_pattern' in all the files from within currently directory and pass it to second grep to filter out the 'unwanted_pattern'. '|' - pipe will tell shell to connect the standard output of left program (grep -r 'wanted_pattern' *) to standard input of right program (grep -v 'unwanted_pattern').

How to deal with page breaks when printing a large HTML table

I recently solved this problem with a good solution.

JS:

function Print(){

Angular CLI - Please add a @NgModule annotation when using latest

The problem is the import of ProjectsListComponent in your ProjectsModule. You should not import that, but add it to the export array, if you want to use it outside of your ProjectsModule.

Other issues are your project routes. You should add these to an exportable variable, otherwise it's not AOT compatible. And you should -never- import the BrowserModule anywhere else but in your AppModule. Use the CommonModule to get access to the *ngIf, *ngFor...etc directives:

@NgModule({

Incorrect string value: '\xF0\x9F\x8E\xB6\xF0\x9F...' MySQL

According to the create table statement, the default charset of the table is already utf8mb4. It seems that you have a wrong connection charset.

In Java, set the datasource url like this: jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/testdb?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf-8.

"?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf-8" is necessary for using utf8mb4.

It works for my application.

Note that eval is not safe if the source of string is unknown, prefer ast.literal_eval for safer conversion:

>>> from ast import literal_eval
>>> s = set([10, 20, 30])
>>> lis = str(list(s))
>>> set(literal_eval(lis))
set([10, 20, 30])

How to force 'cp' to overwrite directory instead of creating another one inside?

The operation you defined is a "merge" and you cannot do that with cp. However, if you are not looking for merging and ok to lose the folder bar then you can simply rm -rf bar to delete the folder and then mv foo bar to rename it. This will not take any time as both operations are done by file pointers, not file contents.

How to escape a JSON string containing newline characters using JavaScript?

Take your JSON and .stringify() it. Then use the .replace() method and replace all occurrences of \n with \\n.

EDIT:

As far as I know of, there are no well-known JS libraries for escaping all special characters in a string. But, you could chain the .replace() method and replace all of the special characters like this:

var myJSONString = JSON.stringify(myJSON);
var myEscapedJSONString = myJSONString.replace(/\\n/g, "\\n")
                                      .replace(/\\'/g, "\\'")
                                      .replace(/\\"/g, '\\"')
                                      .replace(/\\&/g, "\\&")
                                      .replace(/\\r/g, "\\r")
                                      .replace(/\\t/g, "\\t")
                                      .replace(/\\b/g, "\\b")
                                      .replace(/\\f/g, "\\f");
// myEscapedJSONString is now ready to be POST'ed to the server.

But that's pretty nasty, isn't it? Enter the beauty of functions, in that they allow you to break code into pieces and keep the main flow of your script clean, and free of 8 chained .replace() calls. So let's put that functionality into a function called, escapeSpecialChars(). Let's go ahead and attach it to the prototype chain of the String object, so we can call escapeSpecialChars() directly on String objects.

Like so:

String.prototype.escapeSpecialChars = function() {
    return this.replace(/\\n/g, "\\n")
               .replace(/\\'/g, "\\'")
               .replace(/\\"/g, '\\"')
               .replace(/\\&/g, "\\&")
               .replace(/\\r/g, "\\r")
               .replace(/\\t/g, "\\t")
               .replace(/\\b/g, "\\b")
               .replace(/\\f/g, "\\f");
};

Once we have defined that function, the main body of our code is as simple as this:

var myJSONString = JSON.stringify(myJSON);
var myEscapedJSONString = myJSONString.escapeSpecialChars();
// myEscapedJSONString is now ready to be POST'ed to the server

Ignore mapping one property with Automapper

Hello All Please Use this it's working fine... for auto mapper use multiple .ForMember in C#

        if (promotionCode.Any())
        {
            Mapper.Reset();
            Mapper.CreateMap<PromotionCode, PromotionCodeEntity>().ForMember(d => d.serverTime, o => o.MapFrom(s => s.promotionCodeId == null ? "date" : String.Format("{0:dd/MM/yyyy h:mm:ss tt}", DateTime.UtcNow.AddHours(7.0))))
                .ForMember(d => d.day, p => p.MapFrom(s => s.code != "" ? LeftTime(Convert.ToInt32(s.quantity), Convert.ToString(s.expiryDate), Convert.ToString(DateTime.UtcNow.AddHours(7.0))) : "Day"))
                .ForMember(d => d.subCategoryname, o => o.MapFrom(s => s.subCategoryId == 0 ? "" : Convert.ToString(subCategory.Where(z => z.subCategoryId.Equals(s.subCategoryId)).FirstOrDefault().subCategoryName)))
                .ForMember(d => d.optionalCategoryName, o => o.MapFrom(s => s.optCategoryId == 0 ? "" : Convert.ToString(optionalCategory.Where(z => z.optCategoryId.Equals(s.optCategoryId)).FirstOrDefault().optCategoryName)))
                .ForMember(d => d.logoImg, o => o.MapFrom(s => s.vendorId == 0 ? "" : Convert.ToString(vendorImg.Where(z => z.vendorId.Equals(s.vendorId)).FirstOrDefault().logoImg)))
                .ForMember(d => d.expiryDate, o => o.MapFrom(s => s.expiryDate == null ? "" : String.Format("{0:dd/MM/yyyy h:mm:ss tt}", s.expiryDate)));

Python's equivalent of && (logical-and) in an if-statement

A single & (not double &&) is enough or as the top answer suggests you can use 'and'. I also found this in pandas

cities['Is wide and has saint name'] = (cities['Population'] > 1000000)
& cities['City name'].apply(lambda name: name.startswith('San'))

if we replace the "&" with "and", it won't work.

How to return a value from a Form in C#?

First you have to define attribute in form2(child) you will update this attribute in form2 and also from form1(parent) :

 public string Response { get; set; }

 private void OkButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
 {
    Response = "ok";
 }

 private void CancelButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
 {
    Response = "Cancel";
 }

Calling of form2(child) from form1(parent):

  using (Form2 formObject= new Form2() )
  {
     formObject.ShowDialog();

      string result = formObject.Response;
      //to update response of form2 after saving in result
      formObject.Response="";

      // do what ever with result...
      MessageBox.Show("Response from form2: "+result);
  }

Regular Expressions: Is there an AND operator?

The order is always implied in the structure of the regular expression. To accomplish what you want, you'll have to match the input string multiple times against different expressions.

What you want to do is not possible with a single regexp.

Differences between action and actionListener

ActionListener gets fired first, with an option to modify the response, before Action gets called and determines the location of the next page.

If you have multiple buttons on the same page which should go to the same place but do slightly different things, you can use the same Action for each button, but use a different ActionListener to handle slightly different functionality.

Here is a link that describes the relationship:

Arguments to main in C

Siamore, I keep seeing everyone using the command line to compile programs. I use x11 terminal from ide via code::blocks, a gnu gcc compiler on my linux box. I have never compiled a program from command line. So Siamore, if I want the programs name to be cp, do I initialize argv[0]="cp"; Cp being a string literal. And anything going to stdout goes on the command line??? The example you gave me Siamore I understood! Even though the string you entered was a few words long, it was still only one arg. Because it was encased in double quotations. So arg[0], the prog name, is actually your string literal with a new line character?? So I understand why you use if(argc!=3) print error. Because the prog name = argv[0] and there are 2 more args after that, and anymore an error has occured. What other reason would I use that? I really think that my lack of understanding about how to compile from the command line or terminal is my reason for lack understanding in this area!! Siamore, you have helped me understand cla's much better! Still don't fully understand but I am not oblivious to the concept. I'm gonna learn to compile from the terminal then re-read what you wrote. I bet, then I will fully understand! With a little more help from you lol

<> Code that I have not written myself, but from my book.

#include <stdio.h>

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    int i;

    printf("The following arguments were passed to main(): ");
    for(i=1; i<argc; i++) printf("%s ", argv[i]);
    printf("\n");

    return 0;
}

This is the output:

anthony@anthony:~\Documents/C_Programming/CLA$ ./CLA hey man
The follow arguments were passed to main(): hey man
anthony@anthony:~\Documents/C_Programming/CLA$ ./CLA hi how are you doing?
The follow arguments were passed to main(): hi how are you doing?

So argv is a table of string literals, and argc is the number of them. Now argv[0] is the name of the program. So if I type ./CLA to run the program ./CLA is argv[0]. The above program sets the command line to take an infinite amount of arguments. I can set them to only take 3 or 4 if I wanted. Like one or your examples showed, Siamore... if(argc!=3) printf("Some error goes here"); Thank you Siamore, couldn't have done it without you! thanks to the rest of the post for their time and effort also!

PS in case there is a problem like this in the future...you never know lol the problem was because I was using the IDE AKA Code::Blocks. If I were to run that program above it would print the path/directory of the program. Example: ~/Documents/C/CLA.c it has to be ran from the terminal and compiled using the command line. gcc -o CLA main.c and you must be in the directory of the file.

Android BroadcastReceiver within Activity

What do I do wrong?

The source code of ToastDisplay is OK (mine is similar and works), but it will only receive something, if it is currently in foreground (you register receiver in onResume). But it can not receive anything if a different activity (in this case SendBroadcast activity) is shown.

Instead you probably want to startActivity ToastDisplay from the first activity?

BroadcastReceiver and Activity make sense in a different use case. In my application I need to receive notifications from a background GPS tracking service and show them in the activity (if the activity is in the foreground).

There is no need to register the receiver in the manifest. It would be even harmful in my use case - my receiver manipulates the UI of the activity and the UI would not be available during onReceive if the activity is not currently shown. Instead I register and unregister the receiver for activity in onResume and onPause as described in BroadcastReceiver documentation:

You can either dynamically register an instance of this class with Context.registerReceiver() or statically publish an implementation through the tag in your AndroidManifest.xml.

MySQL Error 1215: Cannot add foreign key constraint

Reasons you may get a foreign key constraint error:

  1. You are not using InnoDB as the engine on all tables.
  2. You are trying to reference a nonexistent key on the target table. Make sure it is a key on the other table (it can be a primary or unique key, or just a key)
  3. The types of the columns are not the same (exception is the column on the referencing table can be nullable even if it is not nullable on the referenced table).
  4. If the PK/FK is a varchar make sure the collation is the same for both.

Update:

  1. One of the reasons may also be that the column you are using for ON DELETE SET NULL is not defined to be null. So make sure that the column is set default null.

Check these.

LEFT JOIN only first row

I want to give a more generalized answer. One that will handle any case when you want to select only the first item in a LEFT JOIN.

You can use a subquery that GROUP_CONCATS what you want (sorted, too!), then just split the GROUP_CONCAT'd result and take only its first item, like so...

LEFT JOIN Person ON Person.id = (
    SELECT SUBSTRING_INDEX(
        GROUP_CONCAT(FirstName ORDER BY FirstName DESC SEPARATOR "_" ), '_', 1)
    ) FROM Person
);

Since we have DESC as our ORDER BY option, this will return a Person id for someone like "Zack". If we wanted someone with the name like "Andy", we would change ORDER BY FirstName DESC to ORDER BY FirstName ASC.

This is nimble, as this places the power of ordering totally within your hands. But, after much testing, it will not scale well in a situation with lots of users and lots of data.

It is, however, useful in running data-intensive reports for admin.

How do you check for permissions to write to a directory or file?

None of these worked for me.. they return as true, even when they aren't. The problem is, you have to test the available permission against the current process user rights, this tests for file creation rights, just change the FileSystemRights clause to 'Write' to test write access..

/// <summary>
/// Test a directory for create file access permissions
/// </summary>
/// <param name="DirectoryPath">Full directory path</param>
/// <returns>State [bool]</returns>

    {
        AuthorizationRuleCollection rules = Directory.GetAccessControl(DirectoryPath).GetAccessRules(true, true, typeof(System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier));
        WindowsIdentity identity = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent();

        foreach (FileSystemAccessRule rule in rules)
        {
            if (identity.Groups.Contains(rule.IdentityReference))
            {
                if ((FileSystemRights.CreateFiles & rule.FileSystemRights) == FileSystemRights.CreateFiles)
                {
                    if (rule.AccessControlType == AccessControlType.Allow)
                        return true;
                }
            }
        }
    }

Concat a string to SELECT * MySql

You simply can't do that in SQL. You have to explicitly list the fields and concat each one:

SELECT CONCAT(field1, '/'), CONCAT(field2, '/'), ... FROM `socials` WHERE 1

If you are using an app, you can use SQL to read the column names, and then use your app to construct a query like above. See this stackoverflow question to find the column names: Get table column names in mysql?

How to debug SSL handshake using cURL?

I have used this command to troubleshoot client certificate negotiation:

openssl s_client -connect www.test.com:443 -prexit

The output will probably contain "Acceptable client certificate CA names" and a list of CA certificates from the server, or possibly "No client certificate CA names sent", if the server doesn't always require client certificates.

How to randomize (shuffle) a JavaScript array?

One could (or should) use it as a protoype from Array:

From ChristopheD:

Array.prototype.shuffle = function() {
  var i = this.length, j, temp;
  if ( i == 0 ) return this;
  while ( --i ) {
     j = Math.floor( Math.random() * ( i + 1 ) );
     temp = this[i];
     this[i] = this[j];
     this[j] = temp;
  }
  return this;
}

Non-static variable cannot be referenced from a static context

Before you call an instance method or instance variable It needs a object(Instance). When instance variable is called from static method compiler doesn't know which is the object this variable belongs to. Because static methods doesn't have an object (Only one copy always). When you call an instance variable or instance methods from instance method it refer the this object. It means the variable belongs to whatever object created and each object have it's own copy of instance methods and variables.

Static variables are marked as static and instance variables doesn't have specific keyword.

How to select a single child element using jQuery?

Not jQuery, as the question asks for, but natively (i.e., no libraries required) I think the better tool for the job is querySelector to get a single instance of a selector:

let el = document.querySelector('img');
console.log(el);

For all matching instances, use document.querySelectorAll(), or for those within another element you can chain as follows:

// Get some wrapper, with class="parentClassName"
let parentEl = document.querySelector('.parentClassName');
// Get all img tags within the parent element by parentEl variable
let childrenEls = parentEl.querySelectorAll('img');

Note the above is equivalent to:

let childrenEls = document.querySelector('.parentClassName').querySelectorAll('img');

Alternative to itoa() for converting integer to string C++?

Try Boost.Format or FastFormat, both high-quality C++ libraries:

int i = 10;
std::string result;

WIth Boost.Format

result = str(boost::format("%1%", i));

or FastFormat

fastformat::fmt(result, "{0}", i);
fastformat::write(result, i);

Obviously they both do a lot more than a simple conversion of a single integer

What does <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"> do?

October 2015 Update

This answer was posted several years ago and now the question really should be should you even consider using the X-UA-Compatible tag on your site? with the changes Microsoft has made to its browsers (more on those below).

Depending upon what Microsoft browsers you support you may not need to continue using the X-UA-Compatible tag. If you need to support IE9 or IE8, then I would recommend using the tag. If you only support the latest browsers (IE11 and/or Edge) then I would consider dropping this tag altogether. If you use Twitter Bootstrap and need to eliminate validation warnings, this tag must appear in its specified order. Additional info below:

The X-UA-Compatible meta tag allows web authors to choose what version of Internet Explorer the page should be rendered as. IE11 has made changes to these modes; see the IE11 note below. Microsoft Edge, the browser that replaced IE11, only honors the X-UA-Compatible meta tag in certain circumstances. See the Microsoft Edge note below.

According to Microsoft, when using the X-UA-Compatible tag, it should be as high as possible in your document head:

If you are using the X-UA-Compatible META tag you want to place it as close to the top of the page's HEAD as possible. Internet Explorer begins interpreting markup using the latest version. When Internet Explorer encounters the X-UA-Compatible META tag it starts over using the designated version's engine. This is a performance hit because the browser must stop and restart analyzing the content.

Here are your options:

  • "IE=edge"
  • "IE=11"
  • "IE=EmulateIE11"
  • "IE=10"
  • "IE=EmulateIE10"
  • "IE=9"
  • "IE=EmulateIE9
  • "IE=8"
  • "IE=EmulateIE8"
  • "IE=7"
  • "IE=EmulateIE7"
  • "IE=5"

To attempt to understand what each means, here are definitions provided by Microsoft:

Internet Explorer supports a number of document compatibility modes that enable different features and can affect the way content is displayed:

  • Edge mode tells Internet Explorer to display content in the highest mode available. With Internet Explorer 9, this is equivalent to IE9 mode. If a future release of Internet Explorer supported a higher compatibility mode, pages set to edge mode would appear in the highest mode supported by that version. Those same pages would still appear in IE9 mode when viewed with Internet Explorer 9. Internet Explorer supports a number of document compatibility modes that enable different features and can affect the way content is displayed:

  • IE11 mode provides the highest support available for established and emerging industry standards, including the HTML5, CSS3 and others.

  • IE10 mode provides the highest support available for established and emerging industry standards, including the HTML5, CSS3 and others.

  • IE9 mode provides the highest support available for established and emerging industry standards, including the HTML5 (Working Draft), W3C Cascading Style Sheets Level 3 Specification (Working Draft), Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) 1.0 Specification, and others. [Editor Note: IE 9 does not support CSS3 animations].

  • IE8 mode supports many established standards, including the W3C Cascading Style Sheets Level 2.1 Specification and the W3C Selectors API; it also provides limited support for the W3C Cascading Style Sheets Level 3 Specification (Working Draft) and other emerging standards.

  • IE7 mode renders content as if it were displayed in standards mode by Internet Explorer 7, whether or not the page contains a directive.

  • Emulate IE9 mode tells Internet Explorer to use the directive to determine how to render content. Standards mode directives are displayed in IE9 mode and quirks mode directives are displayed in IE5 mode. Unlike IE9 mode, Emulate IE9 mode respects the directive.

  • Emulate IE8 mode tells Internet Explorer to use the directive to determine how to render content. Standards mode directives are displayed in IE8 mode and quirks mode directives are displayed in IE5 mode. Unlike IE8 mode, Emulate IE8 mode respects the directive.

  • Emulate IE7 mode tells Internet Explorer to use the directive to determine how to render content. Standards mode directives are displayed in Internet Explorer 7 standards mode and quirks mode directives are displayed in IE5 mode. Unlike IE7 mode, Emulate IE7 mode respects the directive. For many web sites, this is the preferred compatibility mode.

  • IE5 mode renders content as if it were displayed in quirks mode by Internet Explorer 7, which is very similar to the way content was displayed in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

IE10 NOTE: As of IE10, quirks mode behaves differently than it did in earlier versions of the browser. In IE9 and earlier versions, quirks mode restricted the webpage to the features supported by IE5.5. In IE10, quirks mode conforms to the differences specified in the HTML5 specification.

Personally, I always choose the http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" meta tag, as older versions have plenty of bugs, and I do not want IE to decide to go into "Compatibility mode" and show my site as IE7 vs IE8 or 9. I always prefer the latest version of IE.

IE11

From Microsoft:

Starting with IE11, edge mode is the preferred document mode; it represents the highest support for modern standards available to the browser.

Use the HTML5 document type declaration to enable edge mode:

<!doctype html>

Edge mode was introduced in Internet Explorer 8 and has been available in each subsequent release. Note that the features supported by edge mode are limited to those supported by the specific version of the browser rendering the content.

Starting with IE11, document modes are deprecated and should no longer be used, except on a temporary basis. Make sure to update sites that rely on legacy features and document modes to reflect modern standards.

If you must target a specific document mode so that your site functions while you rework it to support modern standards and features, be aware that you're using a transitional feature, one that may not be available in future versions.

If you currently use the x-ua-compatible header to target a legacy document mode, it's possible your site won't reflect the best experience available with IE11.

Microsoft Edge (Replacement for Internet Explorer that comes bundled with Windows 10)

Information on X-UA-Compatible meta tag for the "Edge" version of IE. From Microsoft:

Introducing the “living” Edge document mode

As we announced in August 2013, we are deprecating document modes as of IE11. With our latest platform updates, the need for legacy document modes is primarily limited to Enterprise legacy web apps. With new architectural changes, these legacy document modes will be isolated from changes in the “living” Edge mode, which will help to guarantee a much higher level of compatibility for customers who depend on those modes and help us move even faster on improvements in Edge. IE will still honor document modes served by intranet sites, sites on the Compatibility View list, and when used with Enterprise Mode only.

Public Internet sites will be rendered with the new Edge mode platform (ignoring X-UA-Compatible). It is our goal that Edge is the "living" document mode from here out and no further document modes will be introduced going forward.

With the changes in Microsoft Edge to no longer support document modes in most cases, Microsoft has a tool to scan your site to check and see if it has code that is not compatible with Edge.

Chrome=1 Info for IE

There is also chrome=1 that you can use or use together with one of the above options like: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge,chrome=1">. chrome=1 is for Google's Chrome Frame which is defined as:

Google Chrome Frame is an open source browser plug-in. Users who have the plug-in installed have access to Google Chrome's open web technologies and speedy JavaScript engine when they open pages in the browser.

Google Chrome Frame seamlessly enhances your browsing experience in Internet Explorer. It displays Google Chrome Frame enabled sites using Google Chrome’s rendering technology, giving you access to the latest HTML5 features as well as Google Chrome’s performance and security features without in any way interrupting your usual browser usage.

When Google Chrome Frame is installed, the web just gets better without you having to think about it.

But for that plug-in to work you must use chrome=1 in the X-UA-Compatible meta tag.

More info on Chrome Frame can be found here.

Note: Google Chrome Frame only works for IE6 through IE9, and was retired on February 25, 2014. More info can be found here. Thanks to @mck for the link.

Validation:

HTML5:

The page will validate using the W3 Validator only when using <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge">. For other values it will throw the error: A meta element with an http-equiv attribute whose value is X-UA-Compatible must have a content attribute with the value IE=edge. In other words, if you have IE=edge,chrome=1 it will not validate. I ignore this error completely as modern browsers simply ignore this line of code.

If you must have completely valid code then consider doing this on the server level by setting HTTP header. As a note, Microsoft says, If both of these instructions are sent (meta and HTTP), the developer's preference (meta element) takes precedence over the web server setting (HTTP header). See olibre's answer or bitinn's answer for more details on how to set an HTTP header.

XHTML

There isn't an issue with validation when using <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" /> as long as the tag is properly closed (i.e. /> vs >).

Twitter Bootstrap

This tag has been strongly recommended by the Bootstrap team since at least 2014, and Bootlint, the linter authored by the twbs team continues to throw a warning when the tag is omitted. The linter distinguishes between warnings and errors, and as such the severity of omitting this tag may be considered minor.

For more information on X-UA-Compatible see Microsoft's Website Defining Document Compatibility.

For more information on what IE supports see caniuse.com.

For more information on Twitter Bootstrap requirements, see the bootlint project wiki page.

How can I run an EXE program from a Windows Service using C#?

I think You are copying the .exe to different location. This might be the problem I guess. When you copy the exe, you are not copying its dependencies.

So, what you can do is, put all dependent dlls in GAC so that any .net exe can access it

Else, do not copy the exe to new location. Just create a environment variable and call the exe in your c#. Since the path is defined in environment variables, the exe is can be accessed by your c# program.

Update:

previously I had some kind of same issue in my c#.net 3.5 project in which I was trying to run a .exe file from c#.net code and that exe was nothing but the another project exe(where i added few supporting dlls for my functionality) and those dlls methods I was using in my exe application. At last I resolved this by creating that application as a separate project to the same solution and i added that project output to my deployment project. According to this scenario I answered, If its not what he wants then I am extremely sorry.

The way to fix this issue is not within IIS. I was trying to run my application within IIS Express within Visual Studio. I searched the web and some articles were saying to add an identity tag to the system.web tag. This is not the correct way.

The way I was able to solve this issue was to click on the project file and go to properties. Under managed pipeline, I changed the property value from classic to integrated.

This solved my issue.

delete_all vs destroy_all?

I’ve made a small gem that can alleviate the need to manually delete associated records in some circumstances.

This gem adds a new option for ActiveRecord associations:

dependent: :delete_recursively

When you destroy a record, all records that are associated using this option will be deleted recursively (i.e. across models), without instantiating any of them.

Note that, just like dependent: :delete or dependent: :delete_all, this new option does not trigger the around/before/after_destroy callbacks of the dependent records.

However, it is possible to have dependent: :destroy associations anywhere within a chain of models that are otherwise associated with dependent: :delete_recursively. The :destroy option will work normally anywhere up or down the line, instantiating and destroying all relevant records and thus also triggering their callbacks.

remove all special characters in java

use [\\W+] or "[^a-zA-Z0-9]" as regex to match any special characters and also use String.replaceAll(regex, String) to replace the spl charecter with an empty string. remember as the first arg of String.replaceAll is a regex you have to escape it with a backslash to treat em as a literal charcter.

          String c= "hjdg$h&jk8^i0ssh6";
        Pattern pt = Pattern.compile("[^a-zA-Z0-9]");
        Matcher match= pt.matcher(c);
        while(match.find())
        {
            String s= match.group();
        c=c.replaceAll("\\"+s, "");
        }
        System.out.println(c);

What are the rules for JavaScript's automatic semicolon insertion (ASI)?

Straight from the ECMA-262, Fifth Edition ECMAScript Specification:

7.9.1 Rules of Automatic Semicolon Insertion

There are three basic rules of semicolon insertion:

  1. When, as the program is parsed from left to right, a token (called the offending token) is encountered that is not allowed by any production of the grammar, then a semicolon is automatically inserted before the offending token if one or more of the following conditions is true:
    • The offending token is separated from the previous token by at least one LineTerminator.
    • The offending token is }.
  2. When, as the program is parsed from left to right, the end of the input stream of tokens is encountered and the parser is unable to parse the input token stream as a single complete ECMAScript Program, then a semicolon is automatically inserted at the end of the input stream.
  3. When, as the program is parsed from left to right, a token is encountered that is allowed by some production of the grammar, but the production is a restricted production and the token would be the first token for a terminal or nonterminal immediately following the annotation "[no LineTerminator here]" within the restricted production (and therefore such a token is called a restricted token), and the restricted token is separated from the previous token by at least one LineTerminator, then a semicolon is automatically inserted before the restricted token.

However, there is an additional overriding condition on the preceding rules: a semicolon is never inserted automatically if the semicolon would then be parsed as an empty statement or if that semicolon would become one of the two semicolons in the header of a for statement (see 12.6.3).

How to paginate with Mongoose in Node.js?

Above answer's holds good.

Just an add-on for anyone who is into async-await rather than promise !!

const findAllFoo = async (req, resp, next) => {
    const pageSize = 10;
    const currentPage = 1;

    try {
        const foos = await FooModel.find() // find all documents
            .skip(pageSize * (currentPage - 1)) // we will not retrieve all records, but will skip first 'n' records
            .limit(pageSize); // will limit/restrict the number of records to display

        const numberOfFoos = await FooModel.countDocuments(); // count the number of records for that model

        resp.setHeader('max-records', numberOfFoos);
        resp.status(200).json(foos);

    } catch (err) {
        resp.status(500).json({
            message: err
        });
    }
};

How to make the main content div fill height of screen with css

Although this might sounds like an easy issue, but it's actually not!

I've tried many things to achieve what you're trying to do with pure CSS, and all my tries were failure. But.. there's a possible solution if you use javascript or jquery!

Assuming you have this CSS:

#myheader {
    width: 100%;
}
#mybody {
    width: 100%;
}
#myfooter {
    width: 100%;
}

Assuming you have this HTML:

<div id="myheader">HEADER</div>
<div id="mybody">BODY</div>
<div id="myfooter">FOOTER</div>

Try this with jquery:

<script>
    $(document).ready(function() {
        var windowHeight = $(window).height();/* get the browser visible height on screen */
        var headerHeight = $('#myheader').height();/* get the header visible height on screen */
        var bodyHeight = $('#mybody').height();/* get the body visible height on screen */
        var footerHeight = $('#myfooter').height();/* get the footer visible height on screen */
        var newBodyHeight = windowHeight - headerHeight - footerHeight;
        if(newBodyHeight > 0 && newBodyHeight > bodyHeight) {
            $('#mybody').height(newBodyHeight);
        }
    });
</script>

Note: I'm not using absolute positioning in this solution, as it might look ugly in mobile browsers

Left Join without duplicate rows from left table

You can do this using generic SQL with group by:

SELECT C.Content_ID, C.Content_Title, MAX(M.Media_Id)
FROM tbl_Contents C LEFT JOIN
     tbl_Media M
     ON M.Content_Id = C.Content_Id
GROUP BY C.Content_ID, C.Content_Title
ORDER BY MAX(C.Content_DatePublished) ASC;

Or with a correlated subquery:

SELECT C.Content_ID, C.Contt_Title,
       (SELECT M.Media_Id
        FROM tbl_Media M
        WHERE M.Content_Id = C.Content_Id
        ORDER BY M.MEDIA_ID DESC
        LIMIT 1
       ) as Media_Id
FROM tbl_Contents C
ORDER BY C.Content_DatePublished ASC;

Of course, the syntax for limit 1 varies between databases. Could be top. Or rownum = 1. Or fetch first 1 rows. Or something like that.

How to check if array is not empty?

if self.table:
    print 'It is not empty'

Is fine too

How do I output the difference between two specific revisions in Subversion?

To compare entire revisions, it's simply:

svn diff -r 8979:11390

If you want to compare the last committed state against your currently saved working files, you can use convenience keywords:

svn diff -r PREV:HEAD

(Note, without anything specified afterwards, all files in the specified revisions are compared.)

You can compare a specific file if you add the file path afterwards:

svn diff -r 8979:HEAD /path/to/my/file.php

How to get data out of a Node.js http get request

Of course your logs return undefined : you log before the request is done. The problem isn't scope but asynchronicity.

http.request is asynchronous, that's why it takes a callback as parameter. Do what you have to do in the callback (the one you pass to response.end):

callback = function(response) {

  response.on('data', function (chunk) {
    str += chunk;
  });

  response.on('end', function () {
    console.log(req.data);
    console.log(str);
    // your code here if you want to use the results !
  });
}

var req = http.request(options, callback).end();

Where to put a textfile I want to use in eclipse?

Just create a folder Files under src and put your file there. This will look like src/Files/myFile.txt

Note: In your code you need to specify like this Files/myFile.txt e.g.

getResource("Files/myFile.txt");

So when you build your project and run the .jar file this should be able to work.

Why would you use String.Equals over ==?

String.Equals does offer overloads to handle casing and culture-aware comparison. If your code doesn't make use of these, the devs may just be used to Java, where (as Matthew says), you must use the .Equals method to do content comparisons.

What does $1 mean in Perl?

In general, questions regarding "magic" variables in Perl can be answered by looking in the Perl predefined variables documentation a la:

perldoc perlvar

However, when you search this documentation for $1, etc., you'll find references in a number of places except the section on these "digit" variables. You have to search for

$<digits>

I would have added this to Brian's answer either by commenting or editing, but I don't have enough rep. If someone adds this I'll remove this answer.

Environment Specific application.properties file in Spring Boot application

My Point , IN this arent way asking developer to create all environment related in single go, resulting in risk of exposing Production Configuration to end developer

as per 12-Factor, shouldnt be enviornment specific reside in Enviornment only .

How do we do for CI CD

  • Build Spring one time and promote to aother environment, in that case, if we have spring jar has all environment, it iwll security risk, having all environment variable in GIT

How might I schedule a C# Windows Service to perform a task daily?

I wouldn't use Thread.Sleep(). Either use a scheduled task (as others have mentioned), or set up a timer inside your service, which fires periodically (every 10 minutes for example) and check if the date changed since the last run:

private Timer _timer;
private DateTime _lastRun = DateTime.Now.AddDays(-1);

protected override void OnStart(string[] args)
{
    _timer = new Timer(10 * 60 * 1000); // every 10 minutes
    _timer.Elapsed += new System.Timers.ElapsedEventHandler(timer_Elapsed);
    _timer.Start();
    //...
}

private void timer_Elapsed(object sender, System.Timers.ElapsedEventArgs e)
{
    // ignore the time, just compare the date
    if (_lastRun.Date < DateTime.Now.Date)
    {
        // stop the timer while we are running the cleanup task
        _timer.Stop();
        //
        // do cleanup stuff
        //
        _lastRun = DateTime.Now;
        _timer.Start();
    }
}

How to disable PHP Error reporting in CodeIgniter?

Here is the typical structure of new Codeigniter project:

- application/
- system/
- user_guide/
- index.php <- this is the file you need to change

I usually use this code in my CI index.php. Just change local_server_name to the name of your local webserver.

With this code you can deploy your site to your production server without changing index.php each time.

// Domain-based environment
if ($_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] == 'local_server_name') {
    define('ENVIRONMENT', 'development');
} else {
    define('ENVIRONMENT', 'production');
}

/*
 *---------------------------------------------------------------
 * ERROR REPORTING
 *---------------------------------------------------------------
 *
 * Different environments will require different levels of error reporting.
 * By default development will show errors but testing and live will hide them.
 */

if (defined('ENVIRONMENT')) {
    switch (ENVIRONMENT) {
        case 'development':
            error_reporting(E_ALL);
            break;
        case 'testing':
        case 'production':
            error_reporting(0);
            ini_set('display_errors', 0);
            break;
        default:
            exit('The application environment is not set correctly.');
    }
}

JavaScript - onClick to get the ID of the clicked button

(I think the id attribute needs to start with a letter. Could be wrong.)

You could go for event delegation...

<div onClick="reply_click()">
    <button id="1"></button>
    <button id="2"></button>
    <button id="3"></button>
</div>

function reply_click(e) {
    e = e || window.event;
    e = e.target || e.srcElement;
    if (e.nodeName === 'BUTTON') {
        alert(e.id);
    }
}

...but that requires you to be relatively comfortable with the wacky event model.

Handling onchange event in HTML.DropDownList Razor MVC

Description

You can use another overload of the DropDownList method. Pick the one you need and pass in a object with your html attributes.

Sample

@Html.DropDownList("CategoryID", null, new { @onchange="location = this.value;" })

Using momentjs to convert date to epoch then back to date

There are a few things wrong here:

  • First, terminology. "Epoch" refers to the starting point of something. The "Unix Epoch" is Midnight, January 1st 1970 UTC. You can't convert an arbitrary "date string to epoch". You probably meant "Unix Time", which is often erroneously called "Epoch Time".

  • .unix() returns Unix Time in whole seconds, but the default moment constructor accepts a timestamp in milliseconds. You should instead use .valueOf() to return milliseconds. Note that calling .unix()*1000 would also work, but it would result in a loss of precision.

  • You're parsing a string without providing a format specifier. That isn't a good idea, as values like 1/2/2014 could be interpreted as either February 1st or as January 2nd, depending on the locale of where the code is running. (This is also why you get the deprecation warning in the console.) Instead, provide a format string that matches the expected input, such as:

    moment("10/15/2014 9:00", "M/D/YYYY H:mm")

  • .calendar() has a very specific use. If you are near to the date, it will return a value like "Today 9:00 AM". If that's not what you expected, you should use the .format() function instead. Again, you may want to pass a format specifier.

  • To answer your questions in comments, No - you don't need to call .local() or .utc().

Putting it all together:

var ts = moment("10/15/2014 9:00", "M/D/YYYY H:mm").valueOf();
var m = moment(ts);
var s = m.format("M/D/YYYY H:mm");
alert("Values are: ts = " + ts + ", s = " + s);

On my machine, in the US Pacific time zone, it results in:

Values are: ts = 1413388800000, s = 10/15/2014 9:00

Since the input value is interpreted in terms of local time, you will get a different value for ts if you are in a different time zone.

Also note that if you really do want to work with whole seconds (possibly losing precision), moment has methods for that as well. You would use .unix() to return the timestamp in whole seconds, and moment.unix(ts) to parse it back to a moment.

var ts = moment("10/15/2014 9:00", "M/D/YYYY H:mm").unix();
var m = moment.unix(ts);

Can we pass model as a parameter in RedirectToAction?

i did find something like this, helps get rid of hardcoded tempdata tags

public class AccountController : Controller
{
    [HttpGet]
    public ActionResult Index(IndexPresentationModel model)
    {
        return View(model);
    }

    [HttpPost]
    public ActionResult Save(SaveUpdateModel model)
    {
        // save the information

        var presentationModel = new IndexPresentationModel();

        presentationModel.Message = model.Message;

        return this.RedirectToAction(c => c.Index(presentationModel));
    }
}

What's the difference between TRUNCATE and DELETE in SQL

It is not that truncate does not log anything in SQL Server. truncate does not log any information but it log the deallocation of data page for the table on which you fired TRUNCATE.

and truncated record can be rollback if we define transaction at beginning and we can recover the truncated record after rollback it. But can not recover truncated records from the transaction log backup after committed truncated transaction.

How to create file execute mode permissions in Git on Windows?

I finally resolve it by setting skip-worktree bit:

git update-index --skip-worktree --chmod=+x foo.sh

Angular 4.3 - HttpClient set params

HttpParams is intended to be immutable. The set and append methods don't modify the existing instance. Instead they return new instances, with the changes applied.

let params = new HttpParams().set('aaa', 'A'); // now it has aaa
params = params.set('bbb', 'B');                  // now it has both

This approach works well with method chaining:

const params = new HttpParams()
  .set('one', '1')
  .set('two', '2');

...though that might be awkward if you need to wrap any of them in conditions.

Your loop works because you're grabbing a reference to the returned new instance. The code you posted that doesn't work, doesn't. It just calls set() but doesn't grab the result.

let httpParams = new HttpParams().set('aaa', '111'); // now it has aaa
httpParams.set('bbb', '222'); // result has both but is discarded

++i or i++ in for loops ??

There is a reason for this: performance. i++ generates a copy, and that's a waste if you immediately discard it. Granted, the compiler can optimize away this copy if i is a primitive, but it can't if it isn't. See this question.

How do I convert a String object into a Hash object?

The string created by calling Hash#inspect can be turned back into a hash by calling eval on it. However, this requires the same to be true of all of the objects in the hash.

If I start with the hash {:a => Object.new}, then its string representation is "{:a=>#<Object:0x7f66b65cf4d0>}", and I can't use eval to turn it back into a hash because #<Object:0x7f66b65cf4d0> isn't valid Ruby syntax.

However, if all that's in the hash is strings, symbols, numbers, and arrays, it should work, because those have string representations that are valid Ruby syntax.
