Programs & Examples On #Page refresh

Check if page gets reloaded or refreshed in JavaScript

I have wrote this function to check both methods using old window.performance.navigation and new performance.getEntriesByType("navigation") in same time:

function navigationType(){

    var result;
    var p;

    if (window.performance.navigation) {
        result=window.performance.navigation;
        if (result==255){result=4} // 4 is my invention!
    }

    if (window.performance.getEntriesByType("navigation")){
       p=window.performance.getEntriesByType("navigation")[0].type;

       if (p=='navigate'){result=0}
       if (p=='reload'){result=1}
       if (p=='back_forward'){result=2}
       if (p=='prerender'){result=3} //3 is my invention!
    }
    return result;
}

Result description:

0: clicking a link, Entering the URL in the browser's address bar, form submission, Clicking bookmark, initializing through a script operation.

1: Clicking the Reload button or using Location.reload()

2: Working with browswer history (Bakc and Forward).

3: prerendering activity like <link rel="prerender" href="//example.com/next-page.html">

How to force reloading a page when using browser back button?

I found the best answer and it is working perfectly for me

just use this simple script in your link

<A HREF="javascript:history.go(0)">next page</A>

or the button click event

<INPUT TYPE="button" onClick="history.go(0)" VALUE="next page">

when you use this, you refresh your page first and then go to next page, when you return back it will be having the last refreshed state.

I have used it in a CAS login and gives me what I want. Hope it helps .......

How to reload page the page with pagination in Angular 2?

This should technically be achievable using window.location.reload():

HTML:

<button (click)="refresh()">Refresh</button>

TS:

refresh(): void {
    window.location.reload();
}

Update:

Here is a basic StackBlitz example showing the refresh in action. Notice the URL on "/hello" path is retained when window.location.reload() is executed.

JavaScript hard refresh of current page

window.location.href = window.location.href

Force page scroll position to top at page refresh in HTML

The supercalifragilisticexpialidocious answer is:

add this at the top of your js file or script tag

document.documentElement.scrollTop = 0; // For Chrome, Firefox, IE and Opera

document.body.scrollTop = 0; // For Safari

Refresh a page using JavaScript or HTML

If it has something to do control updates on cached pages here I have a nice method how to do this.

  • add some javascript to the page that always get the versionnumber of the page as a string (ajax) at loading. for example: www.yoursite.com/page/about?getVer=1&__[date]
  • Compare it to the stored versionnumber (stored in cookie or localStorage) if user has visited the page once, otherwise store it directly.
  • If version is not the same as local version, refresh the page using window.location.reload(true)
  • You will see any changes made on the page.

This method requires at least one request even when no request is needed because it already exists in the local browser cache. But the overhead is less comparing to using no cache at all (to be sure the page will show the right updated content). This requires just a few bytes for each page request instead of all content for each page.

IMPORTANT: The version info request must be implemented on your server otherwise it will return the whole page.

Example of version string returned by www.yoursite.com/page/about?getVer=1&__[date]: skg2pl-v8kqb

To give you an example in code, here is a part of my library (I don't think you can use it but maybe it gives you some idea how to do it):

o.gCheckDocVersion = function() // Because of the hard caching method, check document for changes with ajax
{
  var sUrl = o.getQuerylessUrl(window.location.href),
      sDocVer = o.gGetData( sUrl, false );

  o.ajaxRequest({ url:sUrl+'?getVer=1&'+o.uniqueId(), cache:0, dataType:'text' },
                function(sVer)
                {
                   if( typeof sVer == 'string' && sVer.length )
                   {
                     var bReload = (( typeof sDocVer == 'string' ) && sDocVer != sVer );
                     if( bReload || !sDocVer )
                      {
                        o.gSetData( sUrl, sVer );
                        sDocVer = o.gGetData( sUrl, false );
                        if( bReload && ( typeof sDocVer != 'string' || sDocVer != sVer ))
                         { bReload = false; }
                      }
                     if( bReload )
                      { // Hard refresh page contents
                        window.location.reload(true); }
                   }
                }, false, false );
};

If you are using version independent resources like javascript or css files, add versionnumbers (implemented with a url rewrite and not with a query because they mostly won't be cached). For example: www.yoursite.com/ver-01/about.js

For me, this method is working great, maybe it can help you too.

How to consume REST in Java

The code below will help to consume rest api via Java. URL - end point rest If you dont need any authentication you dont need to write the authStringEnd variable

The method will return a JsonObject with your response

public JSONObject getAllTypes() throws JSONException, IOException {
        String url = "/api/atlas/types";
        String authString = name + ":" + password;
        String authStringEnc = new BASE64Encoder().encode(authString.getBytes());
        javax.ws.rs.client.Client client = ClientBuilder.newClient();
        WebTarget webTarget = client.target(host + url);
        Invocation.Builder invocationBuilder = webTarget.request(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON).header("Authorization", "Basic " + authStringEnc);

        Response response = invocationBuilder.get();
        String output = response.readEntity(String.class
        );

        System.out.println(response.toString());
        JSONObject obj = new JSONObject(output);

How to automatically start a service when running a docker container?

The following documentation from the Docker website shows how to implement an SSH service in a docker container. It should be easily adaptable for your service:

A variation on this question has also been asked here:

INSERT VALUES WHERE NOT EXISTS

You could do this using an IF statement:

IF NOT EXISTS
    (   SELECT  1
        FROM    tblSoftwareTitles
        WHERE   Softwarename = @SoftwareName
        AND     SoftwareSystemType = @Softwaretype
    )
    BEGIN
        INSERT tblSoftwareTitles (SoftwareName, SoftwareSystemType)
        VALUES (@SoftwareName, @SoftwareType)
    END;

You could do it without IF using SELECT

INSERT  tblSoftwareTitles (SoftwareName, SoftwareSystemType)
SELECT  @SoftwareName,@SoftwareType
WHERE   NOT EXISTS
        (   SELECT  1
            FROM    tblSoftwareTitles
            WHERE   Softwarename = @SoftwareName
            AND     SoftwareSystemType = @Softwaretype
        );

Both methods are susceptible to a race condition, so while I would still use one of the above to insert, but you can safeguard duplicate inserts with a unique constraint:

CREATE UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED INDEX UQ_tblSoftwareTitles_Softwarename_SoftwareSystemType
    ON tblSoftwareTitles (SoftwareName, SoftwareSystemType);

Example on SQL-Fiddle

ADDENDUM

In SQL Server 2008 or later you can use MERGE with HOLDLOCK to remove the chance of a race condition (which is still not a substitute for a unique constraint).

MERGE tblSoftwareTitles WITH (HOLDLOCK) AS t
USING (VALUES (@SoftwareName, @SoftwareType)) AS s (SoftwareName, SoftwareSystemType)
    ON s.Softwarename = t.SoftwareName
    AND s.SoftwareSystemType = t.SoftwareSystemType
WHEN NOT MATCHED BY TARGET THEN
    INSERT (SoftwareName, SoftwareSystemType)
    VALUES (s.SoftwareName, s.SoftwareSystemType);

Example of Merge on SQL Fiddle

How do I use LINQ Contains(string[]) instead of Contains(string)

So am I assuming correctly that uid is a Unique Identifier (Guid)? Is this just an example of a possible scenario or are you really trying to find a guid that matches an array of strings?

If this is true you may want to really rethink this whole approach, this seems like a really bad idea. You should probably be trying to match a Guid to a Guid

Guid id = new Guid(uid);
var query = from xx in table
            where xx.uid == id
            select xx;

I honestly can't imagine a scenario where matching a string array using "contains" to the contents of a Guid would be a good idea. For one thing, Contains() will not guarantee the order of numbers in the Guid so you could potentially match multiple items. Not to mention comparing guids this way would be way slower than just doing it directly.

$(document).on("click"... not working?

You are using the correct syntax for binding to the document to listen for a click event for an element with id="test-element".

It's probably not working due to one of:

  • Not using recent version of jQuery
  • Not wrapping your code inside of DOM ready
  • or you are doing something which causes the event not to bubble up to the listener on the document.

To capture events on elements which are created AFTER declaring your event listeners - you should bind to a parent element, or element higher in the hierarchy.

For example:

$(document).ready(function() {
    // This WILL work because we are listening on the 'document',
    // for a click on an element with an ID of #test-element
    $(document).on("click","#test-element",function() {
        alert("click bound to document listening for #test-element");
    });

    // This will NOT work because there is no '#test-element' ... yet
    $("#test-element").on("click",function() {
        alert("click bound directly to #test-element");
    });

    // Create the dynamic element '#test-element'
    $('body').append('<div id="test-element">Click mee</div>');
});

In this example, only the "bound to document" alert will fire.

How can I throw CHECKED exceptions from inside Java 8 streams?

TL;DR Just use Lombok's @SneakyThrows.

Christian Hujer has already explained in detail why throwing checked exceptions from a stream is, strictly speaking, not possible due to Java's limitations.

Some other answers have explained tricks to get around the limitations of the language but still being able to fulfil the requirement of throwing "the checked exception itself, and without adding ugly try/catches to the stream", some of them requiring tens of additional lines of boilerplate.

I am going to highlight another option for doing this that IMHO is far cleaner than all the others: Lombok's @SneakyThrows. It has been mentioned in passing by other answers but was a bit buried under a lot of unnecessary detail.

The resulting code is as simple as:

public List<Class> getClasses() throws ClassNotFoundException {
    List<Class> classes =
        Stream.of("java.lang.Object", "java.lang.Integer", "java.lang.String")
                .map(className -> getClass(className))
                .collect(Collectors.toList());
    return classes;
}

@SneakyThrows // <= this is the only new code
private Class<?> getClass(String className) {
    return Class.forName(className);
}

We just needed one Extract Method refactoring (done by the IDE) and one additional line for @SneakyThrows. The annotation takes care of adding all the boilerplate to make sure that you can throw your checked exception without wrapping it in a RuntimeException and without needing to declare it explicitly.

How to merge two json string in Python?

You can load both json strings into Python Dictionaries and then combine. This will only work if there are unique keys in each json string.

import json

a = json.loads(jsonStringA)
b = json.loads(jsonStringB)
c = dict(a.items() + b.items())
# or c =  dict(a, **b)

Remove a symlink to a directory

use the "unlink" command and make sure not to have the / at the end

$ unlink mySymLink

unlink() deletes a name from the file system. If that name was the last link to a file and no processes have the file open the file is deleted and the space it was using is made available for reuse. If the name was the last link to a file but any processes still have the file open the file will remain in existence until the last file descriptor referring to it is closed.

I think this may be problematic if I'm reading it correctly.

If the name referred to a symbolic link the link is removed.

If the name referred to a socket, fifo or device the name for it is removed but processes which have the object open may continue to use it.

Best way to find the months between two dates

Here is my solution for this:

def calc_age_months(from_date, to_date):
    from_date = time.strptime(from_date, "%Y-%m-%d")
    to_date = time.strptime(to_date, "%Y-%m-%d")

    age_in_months = (to_date.tm_year - from_date.tm_year)*12 + (to_date.tm_mon - from_date.tm_mon)

    if to_date.tm_mday < from_date.tm_mday:
        return age_in_months -1
    else
        return age_in_months

This will handle some edge cases as well where the difference in months between 31st Dec 2018 and 1st Jan 2019 will be zero (since the difference is only a day).

How to delete large data of table in SQL without log?

@m-ali answer is right but also keep in mind that logs could grow a lot if you don't commit the transaction after each chunk and perform a checkpoint. This is how I would do it and take this article http://sqlperformance.com/2013/03/io-subsystem/chunk-deletes as reference, with performance tests and graphs:

DECLARE @Deleted_Rows INT;
SET @Deleted_Rows = 1;

WHILE (@Deleted_Rows > 0)
  BEGIN

   BEGIN TRANSACTION

   -- Delete some small number of rows at a time
     DELETE TOP (10000)  LargeTable
     WHERE readTime < dateadd(MONTH,-7,GETDATE())

     SET @Deleted_Rows = @@ROWCOUNT;

   COMMIT TRANSACTION
   CHECKPOINT -- for simple recovery model
END

How to set java.net.preferIPv4Stack=true at runtime?

well,

I used System.setProperty("java.net.preferIPv4Stack" , "true"); and it works from JAVA, but it doesn't work on JBOSS AS7.

Here is my work around solution,

Add the below line to the end of the file ${JBOSS_HOME}/bin/standalone.conf.bat (just after :JAVA_OPTS_SET )

set "JAVA_OPTS=%JAVA_OPTS% -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true"

Note: restart JBoss server

IIS7 Permissions Overview - ApplicationPoolIdentity

I fixed all my asp.net problems simply by creating a new user called IUSER with a password and added it the Network Service and User Groups. Then create all your virtual sites and applications set authentication to IUSER with its password.. set high level file access to include IUSER and BAM it fixed at least 3-4 issues including this one..

Why the switch statement cannot be applied on strings?

C++ 11 update of apparently not @MarmouCorp above but http://www.codeguru.com/cpp/cpp/cpp_mfc/article.php/c4067/Switch-on-Strings-in-C.htm

Uses two maps to convert between the strings and the class enum (better than plain enum because its values are scoped inside it, and reverse lookup for nice error messages).

The use of static in the codeguru code is possible with compiler support for initializer lists which means VS 2013 plus. gcc 4.8.1 was ok with it, not sure how much farther back it would be compatible.

what is the basic difference between stack and queue?

You can think of both as an ordered list of things (ordered by the time at which they were added to the list). The main difference between the two is how new elements enter the list and old elements leave the list.

For a stack, if I have a list a, b, c, and I add d, it gets tacked on the end, so I end up with a,b,c,d. If I want to pop an element of the list, I remove the last element I added, which is d. After a pop, my list is now a,b,c again

For a queue, I add new elements in the same way. a,b,c becomes a,b,c,d after adding d. But, now when I pop, I have to take an element from the front of the list, so it becomes b,c,d.

It's very simple!

converting string to long in python

longcan only take string convertibles which can end in a base 10 numeral. So, the decimal is causing the harm. What you can do is, float the value before calling the long. If your program is on Python 2.x where int and long difference matters, and you are sure you are not using large integers, you could have just been fine with using int to provide the key as well.

So, the answer is long(float('234.89')) or it could just be int(float('234.89')) if you are not using large integers. Also note that this difference does not arise in Python 3, because int is upgraded to long by default. All integers are long in python3 and call to covert is just int

Quickly create a large file on a Linux system

truncate -s 10M output.file

will create a 10 M file instantaneously (M stands for 10241024 bytes, MB stands for 10001000 - same with K, KB, G, GB...)

EDIT: as many have pointed out, this will not physically allocate the file on your device. With this you could actually create an arbitrary large file, regardless of the available space on the device, as it creates a "sparse" file.

For e.g. notice no HDD space is consumed with this command:

### BEFORE
$ df -h | grep lvm
/dev/mapper/lvm--raid0-lvm0
                      7.2T  6.6T  232G  97% /export/lvm-raid0

$ truncate -s 500M 500MB.file

### AFTER
$ df -h | grep lvm
/dev/mapper/lvm--raid0-lvm0
                      7.2T  6.6T  232G  97% /export/lvm-raid0

So, when doing this, you will be deferring physical allocation until the file is accessed. If you're mapping this file to memory, you may not have the expected performance.

But this is still a useful command to know. For e.g. when benchmarking transfers using files, the specified size of the file will still get moved.

$ rsync -aHAxvP --numeric-ids --delete --info=progress2 \
       [email protected]:/export/lvm-raid0/500MB.file \
       /export/raid1/

How to create a drop-down list?

You can also use AppCompatSpinner widget:

<android.support.v7.widget.AppCompatSpinner
    android:id="@+id/spinner_order_type"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    app:backgroundTint="@color/red"/>

Inside your Activity class:

AppCompatSpinner spinOrderType = (AppCompatSpinner) findViewById(R.id.spinner_order_type);
List<String> categories = new ArrayList<String>();
        categories.add(getString(R.string.label_table_order));
        categories.add(getString(R.string.label_take_away));

        ArrayAdapter<String> dataAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(mContext,
                R.layout.layout_spinner_item, categories);
        dataAdapter.setDropDownViewResource(R.layout.layout_spinner_item);
        spinOrderType.setAdapter(dataAdapter);
        spinOrderType.setSelection(0);

        spinOrderType.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long l) {
                String item = parent.getItemAtPosition(position).toString();
                Log.d(TAG, item);
            }

            @Override
            public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView) {

How can I convert a Timestamp into either Date or DateTime object?

You can also get DateTime object from timestamp, including your current daylight saving time:

public DateTime getDateTimeFromTimestamp(Long value) {
    TimeZone timeZone = TimeZone.getDefault();
    long offset = timeZone.getOffset(value);
    if (offset < 0) {
        value -= offset;
    } else {
        value += offset;
    }
    return new DateTime(value);
}

Why should I use IHttpActionResult instead of HttpResponseMessage?

You might decide not to use IHttpActionResult because your existing code builds a HttpResponseMessage that doesn't fit one of the canned responses. You can however adapt HttpResponseMessage to IHttpActionResult using the canned response of ResponseMessage. It took me a while to figure this out, so I wanted to post it showing that you don't necesarily have to choose one or the other:

public IHttpActionResult SomeAction()
{
   IHttpActionResult response;
   //we want a 303 with the ability to set location
   HttpResponseMessage responseMsg = new HttpResponseMessage(HttpStatusCode.RedirectMethod);
   responseMsg.Headers.Location = new Uri("http://customLocation.blah");
   response = ResponseMessage(responseMsg);
   return response;
}

Note, ResponseMessage is a method of the base class ApiController that your controller should inherit from.

use localStorage across subdomains

If you're using the iframe and postMessage solution just for this particular problem, I think it might be less work (both code-wise and computation-wise) to just store the data in a subdomain-less cookie and, if it's not already in localStorage on load, grab it from the cookie.

Pros:

  • Doesn't need the extra iframe and postMessage set up.

Cons:

  • Will make the data available across all subdomains (not just www) so if you don't trust all the subdomains it may not work for you.
  • Will send the data to the server on each request. Not great, but depending on your scenario, maybe still less work than the iframe/postMessage solution.
  • If you're doing this, why not just use the cookies directly? Depends on your context.
  • 4K max cookie size, total across all cookies for the domain (Thanks to Blake for pointing this out in comments)

I agree with other commenters though, this seems like it should be a specifiable option for localStorage so work-arounds aren't required.

Is it possible to have a HTML SELECT/OPTION value as NULL using PHP?

All you need is a check on the post side of things.

Eclipse hangs on loading workbench

Pretty old question but the most simple answer isn't yet posted.
Here it is :
1) In [workspace]\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.e4.workbench delete workbench.xmi file.
In most cases it's enough - try to load Eclipse.
Still you have to re-configure your specific perspective settings (if any)

2) Now getting problems with building projects that worked perfectly? As of my experience following steps help:
- uncheck Projects->Build automatically
- switch to Java perspective (if not yet): Window -> Open perspective -> Java
- locate Problems view or open it: Window -> Show view -> Problems
- right-click on problem groups and select Delete. Be sure to delete Lint errors
- clean the workspace: Project -> Clean... with option Clean all projects
- check Projects->Build automatically
- if problems persist for some projects: right-click project, select Properties -> Android and make sure appropriate Project Build Target is chosen

3) It was always sufficient for me. But if you still get problems - try @george post recommendations

Posting JSON data via jQuery to ASP .NET MVC 4 controller action

Well my client side (a cshtml file) was using DataTables to display a grid (now using Infragistics control which are great). And once the user clicked on the row, I captured the row event and the date associated with that record in order to go back to the server and make additional server-side requests for trades, etc. And no - I DID NOT stringify it...

The DataTables def started as this (leaving lots of stuff out), and the click event is seen below where I PUSH onto my Json object :

    oTablePf = $('#pftable').dataTable({         // INIT CODE
             "aaData": PfJsonData,
             'aoColumnDefs': [
                { "sTitle": "Pf Id", "aTargets": [0] },
                { "sClass": "**td_nodedate**", "aTargets": [3] }
              ]
              });

   $("#pftable").delegate("tbody tr", "click", function (event) { // ROW CLICK EVT!!

        var rownum = $(this).index();
        var thisPfId = $(this).find('.td_pfid').text(); // Find Port Id and Node Date
        var thisDate = $(this).find('.td_nodedate').text();

         //INIT JSON DATA
        var nodeDatesJson = {
            "nodedatelist":[]
        };

         // omitting some code here...
         var dateArry = thisDate.split("/");
         var nodeDate = dateArry[2] + "-" + dateArry[0] + "-" + dateArry[1];

         nodeDatesJson.nodedatelist.push({ nodedate: nodeDate });

           getTradeContribs(thisPfId, nodeDatesJson); // GET TRADE CONTRIBUTIONS
    });

Responsive design with media query : screen size?

The screen widths Bootstrap v3.x uses are as follows:

  • Extra small devices Phones (<768px) / .col-xs-
  • Small devices Tablets (=768px) / .col-sm-
  • Medium devices Desktops (=992px) / .col-md-
  • Large devices Desktops (=1200px) / .col-lg-

So, these are good to use and work well in practice.

How to send custom headers with requests in Swagger UI?

In ASP.net WebApi, the simplest way to pass-in a header on Swagger UI is to implement the Apply(...) method on the IOperationFilter interface.

Add this to your project:

public class AddRequiredHeaderParameter : IOperationFilter
{
    public void Apply(Operation operation, SchemaRegistry schemaRegistry, ApiDescription apiDescription)
    {
        if (operation.parameters == null)
            operation.parameters = new List<Parameter>();

        operation.parameters.Add(new Parameter
        {
            name = "MyHeaderField",
            @in = "header",
            type = "string",
            description = "My header field",
            required = true
        });
    }
}

In SwaggerConfig.cs, register the filter from above using c.OperationFilter<>():

public static void Register()
{
    var thisAssembly = typeof(SwaggerConfig).Assembly;

    GlobalConfiguration.Configuration
        .EnableSwagger(c =>
        {
            c.SingleApiVersion("v1", "YourProjectName");
            c.IgnoreObsoleteActions();
            c.UseFullTypeNameInSchemaIds();
            c.DescribeAllEnumsAsStrings();
            c.IncludeXmlComments(GetXmlCommentsPath());
            c.ResolveConflictingActions(apiDescriptions => apiDescriptions.First());

            c.OperationFilter<AddRequiredHeaderParameter>(); // Add this here
        })
        .EnableSwaggerUi(c =>
        {
            c.DocExpansion(DocExpansion.List);
        });
}

Not showing placeholder for input type="date" field

According to the HTML standard:

The following content attributes must not be specified and do not apply to the element: accept, alt, checked, dirname, formaction, formenctype, formmethod, formnovalidate, formtarget, height, inputmode, maxlength, minlength, multiple, pattern, placeholder, size, src, and width.

What's the difference between "Solutions Architect" and "Applications Architect"?

The spelling?

Seriously though - they're both BS job title fluffing. "Programmer" not good enough for you? Become an "Architect"!

Really... What is the world coming to?!

Edit: I clearly hurt some "architects'" feelings!

Edit 2: Though I agree with the sentiments that the phrasing can be interpreted to mean some people deal with the whole problem domain (eg hardware, software, deployment, maintaining), most people who want to satisfy a client (and make more money) will provide a full service, if required, regardless of their title.

In real life, it's just marketing fluff.

How do I pull my project from github?

Since you have wiped out your computer and want to checkout your project again, you could start by doing the below initial settings:

git config --global user.name "Your Name"
git config --global user.email [email protected]

Login to your github account, go to the repository you want to clone, and copy the URL under "Clone with HTTPS".

You can clone the remote repository by using HTTPS, even if you had setup SSH the last time:

git clone https://github.com/username/repo-name.git

NOTE:

If you had setup SSH for your remote repository previously, you will have to add that key to the known hosts ssh file on your PC; if you don't and try to do git clone [email protected]:username/repo-name.git, you will see an error similar to the one below:

Cloning into 'repo-name'...
The authenticity of host 'github.com (192.30.255.112)' can't be established.
RSA key fingerprint is SHA256:nThbg6kXDoJWGl7E1IGOCspZomTxdCARLviMw6E5SY8.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no/[fingerprint])? yes
Warning: Permanently added 'github.com,192.30.255.112' (RSA) to the list of known hosts.
[email protected]: Permission denied (publickey).
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

Using HTTPS is a easier than SSH in this case.

Spark - SELECT WHERE or filtering?

According to spark documentation "where() is an alias for filter()"

filter(condition) Filters rows using the given condition. where() is an alias for filter().

Parameters: condition – a Column of types.BooleanType or a string of SQL expression.

>>> df.filter(df.age > 3).collect()
[Row(age=5, name=u'Bob')]
>>> df.where(df.age == 2).collect()
[Row(age=2, name=u'Alice')]

>>> df.filter("age > 3").collect()
[Row(age=5, name=u'Bob')]
>>> df.where("age = 2").collect()
[Row(age=2, name=u'Alice')]

What are best practices that you use when writing Objective-C and Cocoa?

If you're using Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) or later, you can use the Instruments application to find and track memory leaks. After building your program in Xcode, select Run > Start with Performance Tool > Leaks.

Even if your app doesn't show any leaks, you may be keeping objects around too long. In Instruments, you can use the ObjectAlloc instrument for this. Select the ObjectAlloc instrument in your Instruments document, and bring up the instrument's detail (if it isn't already showing) by choosing View > Detail (it should have a check mark next to it). Under "Allocation Lifespan" in the ObjectAlloc detail, make sure you choose the radio button next to "Created & Still Living".

Now whenever you stop recording your application, selecting the ObjectAlloc tool will show you how many references there are to each still-living object in your application in the "# Net" column. Make sure you not only look at your own classes, but also the classes of your NIB files' top-level objects. For example, if you have no windows on the screen, and you see references to a still-living NSWindow, you may have not released it in your code.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it

This error can occur on anything that requires elevated privileges in Windows.

It happens when the "Application Information" service is disabled in Windows services. There are a few viruses that use this as an attack vector to prevent people from removing the virus. It also prevents people from installing software to remove viruses.

The normal way to fix this would be to run services.msc, or to go into Administrative Tools and run "Services". However, you will not be able to do that if the "Application Information" service is disabled.

Instead, reboot your computer into Safe Mode (reboot and press F8 until the Windows boot menu appears, select Safe Mode with Networking). Then run services.msc and look for services that are designated as "Disabled" in the Startup Type column. Change these "Disabled" services to "Automatic".

Make sure the "Application Information" service is set to a Startup Type of "Automatic".

When you are done enabling your services, click Ok at the bottom of the tool and reboot your computer back into normal mode. The problem should be resolved when Windows reboots.

How to generate and validate a software license key?

Besides what has already been stated....

Any use of .NET applications are inherently breakable because of the intermediate language issues. A simple disassembly of the .NET code will open your product to anyone. They can easily bypass your licensing code at that point.

You can't even use hardware values to create a key anymore. Virtual machines now allow someone to create an image of a 'licensed' machine and run it on any platform they choose.

If it's expensive software there are other solutions. If it's not, just make it difficult enough for the casual hacker. And accept the fact that there will be unlicensed copies out there eventually.

If your product is complicated, the inherent support issues will be create some protection for you.

How do you convert an entire directory with ffmpeg?

The following script works well for me in a Bash on Windows (so it should work just as well on Linux and Mac). It addresses some problems I have had with some other solutions:

  • Processes files in subfolders
  • Replaces the source extension with the target extension instead of just appending it
  • Works with files with multiple spaces and multiple dots in the name (See this answer for details.)
  • Can be run when the target file exists, prompting before overwriting

ffmpeg-batch-convert.sh:

sourceExtension=$1 # e.g. "mp3"
targetExtension=$2 # e.g. "wav"
IFS=$'\n'; set -f
for sourceFile in $(find . -iname "*.$sourceExtension")
do
    targetFile="${sourceFile%.*}.$targetExtension"
    ffmpeg -i "$sourceFile" "$targetFile"
done
unset IFS; set +f

Example call:

$ sh ffmpeg-batch-convert.sh mp3 wav

As a bonus, if you want the source files deleted, you can modify the script like this:

sourceExtension=$1 # e.g. "mp3"
targetExtension=$2 # e.g. "wav"
deleteSourceFile=$3 # "delete" or omitted
IFS=$'\n'; set -f
for sourceFile in $(find . -iname "*.$sourceExtension")
do
    targetFile="${sourceFile%.*}.$targetExtension"
    ffmpeg -i "$sourceFile" "$targetFile"
    if [ "$deleteSourceFile" == "delete" ]; then
        if [ -f "$targetFile" ]; then
            rm "$sourceFile"
        fi
    fi
done
unset IFS; set +f

Example call:

$ sh ffmpeg-batch-convert.sh mp3 wav delete

How should I set the default proxy to use default credentials?

From .NET 2.0 you shouldn't need to do this. If you do not explicitly set the Proxy property on a web request it uses the value of the static WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy. If you wanted to change the proxy being used by all subsequent WebRequests, you can set this static DefaultWebProxy property.

The default behaviour of WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy is to use the same underlying settings as used by Internet Explorer.

If you wanted to use different proxy settings to the current user then you would need to code

WebRequest webRequest = WebRequest.Create("http://stackoverflow.com/");
webRequest.Proxy = new WebProxy("http://proxyserver:80/",true);

or

WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy = new WebProxy("http://proxyserver:80/",true);

You should also remember the object model for proxies includes the concept that the proxy can be different depending on the destination hostname. This can make things a bit confusing when debugging and checking the property of webRequest.Proxy. Call

webRequest.Proxy.GetProxy(new Uri("http://google.com.au")) to see the actual details of the proxy server that would be used.

There seems to be some debate about whether you can set webRequest.Proxy or WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy = null to prevent the use of any proxy. This seems to work OK for me but you could set it to new DefaultProxy() with no parameters to get the required behaviour. Another thing to check is that if a proxy element exists in your applications config file, the .NET Framework will NOT use the proxy settings in Internet Explorer.

The MSDN Magazine article Take the Burden Off Users with Automatic Configuration in .NET gives further details of what is happening under the hood.

UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 3-6: invalid data

The error you're seeing means the data you receive from the remote end isn't valid JSON. JSON (according to the specifiation) is normally UTF-8, but can also be UTF-16 or UTF-32 (in either big- or little-endian.) The exact error you're seeing means some part of the data was not valid UTF-8 (and also wasn't UTF-16 or UTF-32, as those would produce different errors.)

Perhaps you should examine the actual response you receive from the remote end, instead of blindly passing the data to json.loads(). Right now, you're reading all the data from the response into a string and assuming it's JSON. Instead, check the content type of the response. Make sure the webpage is actually claiming to give you JSON and not, for example, an error message that isn't JSON.

(Also, after checking the response use json.load() by passing it the file-like object returned by opener.open(), instead of reading all data into a string and passing that to json.loads().)

Invalid character in identifier

If your keyboard is set to English US (International) rather than English US the double quotation marks don't work. This is why the single quotation marks worked in your case.

What's the difference between [ and [[ in Bash?

The most important difference will be the clarity of your code. Yes, yes, what's been said above is true, but [[ ]] brings your code in line with what you would expect in high level languages, especially in regards to AND (&&), OR (||), and NOT (!) operators. Thus, when you move between systems and languages you will be able to interpret script faster which makes your life easier. Get the nitty gritty from a good UNIX/Linux reference. You may find some of the nitty gritty to be useful in certain circumstances, but you will always appreciate clear code! Which script fragment would you rather read? Even out of context, the first choice is easier to read and understand.

How to describe "object" arguments in jsdoc?

I see that there is already an answer about the @return tag, but I want to give more details about it.

First of all, the official JSDoc 3 documentation doesn't give us any examples about the @return for a custom object. Please see https://jsdoc.app/tags-returns.html. Now, let's see what we can do until some standard will appear.

  • Function returns object where keys are dynamically generated. Example: {1: 'Pete', 2: 'Mary', 3: 'John'}. Usually, we iterate over this object with the help of for(var key in obj){...}.

    Possible JSDoc according to https://google.github.io/styleguide/javascriptguide.xml#JsTypes

    /**
     * @return {Object.<number, string>}
     */
    function getTmpObject() {
        var result = {}
        for (var i = 10; i >= 0; i--) {
            result[i * 3] = 'someValue' + i;
        }
        return result
    }

  • Function returns object where keys are known constants. Example: {id: 1, title: 'Hello world', type: 'LEARN', children: {...}}. We can easily access properties of this object: object.id.

    Possible JSDoc according to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/jsdoc-users/TMvUedK9tC4

    • Fake It.

      /**
       * Generate a point.
       *
       * @returns {Object} point - The point generated by the factory.
       * @returns {number} point.x - The x coordinate.
       * @returns {number} point.y - The y coordinate.
       */
      var pointFactory = function (x, y) {

Changing the text on a label

There are many ways to tackle a problem like this. There are many ways to do this. I'm going to give you the most simple solution to this question I know. When changing the text of a label or any kind of wiget really. I would do it like this.

Name_Of_Label["text"] = "Your New Text"

So when I apply this knowledge to your code. It would look something like this.

from tkinter import*

class MyGUI:
   def __init__(self):
    self.__mainWindow = Tk()
    #self.fram1 = Frame(self.__mainWindow)
    self.labelText = 'Enter amount to deposit'
    self.depositLabel = Label(self.__mainWindow, text = self.labelText)
    self.depositEntry = Entry(self.__mainWindow, width = 10)
    self.depositEntry.bind('<Return>', self.depositCallBack)
    self.depositLabel.pack()
    self.depositEntry.pack()

    mainloop()

  def depositCallBack(self,event):
    self.labelText["text"] = 'change the value'
    print(self.labelText)

myGUI = MyGUI()

If this helps please let me know!

Why does MSBuild look in C:\ for Microsoft.Cpp.Default.props instead of c:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild? ( error MSB4019)

I'm seeing this in a VS2017 environment. My build script calls VsDevCmd.bat first, and to solve this problem I set the VCTargetsPath environment variable after VsDevCmd and before calling MSBuild:

Python IndentationError: unexpected indent

You can't mix tab and spaces for identation. Best practice is to convert all tabs to spaces.

How to fix this? Well just delete all the spaces/tabs before each line and convert them uniformly either to tabs OR spaces, but don't mix. Best solution: enable in your Editor the option to convert automagically any tabs to spaces.

Also be aware that your actual problem may lie in the lines before this block, and python throws the error here, because of a leading invalid indentation which doesn't match the following identations!

Shell script not running, command not found

#! /bin/bash
  ^---

remove the indicated space. The shebang should be

#!/bin/bash

Output a NULL cell value in Excel

I've been frustrated by this problem as well. Find/Replace can be helpful though, because if you don't put anything in the "replace" field it will replace with an -actual- NULL. So the steps would be something along the lines of:

1: Place some unique string in your formula in place of the NULL output (i like to use a password-like string)

2: Run your formula

3: Open Find/Replace, and fill in the unique string as the search value. Leave "replace with" blank

4: Replace All

Obviously, this has limitations. It only works when the context allows you to do a find/replace, so for more dynamic formulas this won't help much. But, I figured I'd put it up here anyway.

Creating a procedure in mySql with parameters

Its very easy to create procedure in Mysql. Here, in my example I am going to create a procedure which is responsible to fetch all data from student table according to supplied name.

DELIMITER //
CREATE PROCEDURE getStudentInfo(IN s_name VARCHAR(64))
BEGIN
SELECT * FROM student_database.student s where s.sname = s_name;
END//
DELIMITER;

In the above example ,database and table names are student_database and student respectively. Note: Instead of s_name, you can also pass @s_name as global variable.

How to call procedure? Well! its very easy, simply you can call procedure by hitting this command

$mysql> CAll getStudentInfo('pass_required_name');

What's the difference between primitive and reference types?

These are the primitive types in Java:

  • boolean
  • byte
  • short
  • char
  • int
  • long
  • float
  • double

All the other types are reference types: they reference objects.

This is the first part of the Java tutorial about the basics of the language.

How to force IE10 to render page in IE9 document mode

I haven't seen this done before, but this is how it was done for emulating IE 8/7 when using IE 9:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE9">

If not, then try this one:

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9">

Add those to your header with the other meta tags. This should force IE10 to render as IE9.

Another option you could do (assuming you are using PHP) is add this to your .htaccess file:

Header set X-UA-Compatible "IE=9"

This will perform the action universally, rather than having to worry about adding the meta tag to all of your headers.

How can we store into an NSDictionary? What is the difference between NSDictionary and NSMutableDictionary?

The key difference: NSMutableDictionary can be modified in place, NSDictionary cannot. This is true for all the other NSMutable* classes in Cocoa. NSMutableDictionary is a subclass of NSDictionary, so everything you can do with NSDictionary you can do with both. However, NSMutableDictionary also adds complementary methods to modify things in place, such as the method setObject:forKey:.

You can convert between the two like this:

NSMutableDictionary *mutable = [[dict mutableCopy] autorelease];
NSDictionary *dict = [[mutable copy] autorelease];

Presumably you want to store data by writing it to a file. NSDictionary has a method to do this (which also works with NSMutableDictionary):

BOOL success = [dict writeToFile:@"/file/path" atomically:YES];

To read a dictionary from a file, there's a corresponding method:

NSDictionary *dict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:@"/file/path"];

If you want to read the file as an NSMutableDictionary, simply use:

NSMutableDictionary *dict = [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:@"/file/path"];

Why is my CSS bundling not working with a bin deployed MVC4 app?

UPDATE 11/4/2013:

The reason why this happens is because you have .js or .css at the end of your bundle name which causes ASP.NET to not run the request through MVC and the BundleModule.

The recommended way to fix this for better performance is to remove the .js or .css from your bundle name.

So /bundle/myscripts.js becomes /bundle/myscripts

Alternatively you can modify your web.config in the system.webServer section to run these requests through the BundleModule (which was my original answer)

<modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true">
  <remove name="BundleModule" />
  <add name="BundleModule" type="System.Web.Optimization.BundleModule" />
</modules>

Edit: I also noticed that if the name ends with 'css' (without the dot), that is a problem as well. I had to change my bundle name from 'DataTablesCSS' to 'DataTablesStyles' to fix my issue.

How to change webservice url endpoint?

To add some clarification here, when you create your service, the service class uses the default 'wsdlLocation', which was inserted into it when the class was built from the wsdl. So if you have a service class called SomeService, and you create an instance like this:

SomeService someService = new SomeService();

If you look inside SomeService, you will see that the constructor looks like this:

public SomeService() {
        super(__getWsdlLocation(), SOMESERVICE_QNAME);
}

So if you want it to point to another URL, you just use the constructor that takes a URL argument (there are 6 constructors for setting qname and features as well). For example, if you have set up a local TCP/IP monitor that is listening on port 9999, and you want to redirect to that URL:

URL newWsdlLocation = new URL("http://theServerName:9999/somePath");
SomeService someService = new SomeService(newWsdlLocation);

and that will call this constructor inside the service:

public SomeService(URL wsdlLocation) {
    super(wsdlLocation, SOMESERVICE_QNAME);
}

Difference between <context:annotation-config> and <context:component-scan>

<context:annotation-config>:

This tells Spring that I am going to use Annotated beans as spring bean and those would be wired through @Autowired annotation, instead of declaring in spring config xml file.

<context:component-scan base-package="com.test..."> :

This tells Spring container, where to start searching those annotated beans. Here spring will search all sub packages of the base package.

How do I make a Git commit in the past?

The advice you were given is flawed. Unconditionally setting GIT_AUTHOR_DATE in an --env-filter would rewrite the date of every commit. Also, it would be unusual to use git commit inside --index-filter.

You are dealing with multiple, independent problems here.

Specifying Dates Other Than “now”

Each commit has two dates: the author date and the committer date. You can override each by supplying values through the environment variables GIT_AUTHOR_DATE and GIT_COMMITTER_DATE for any command that writes a new commit. See “Date Formats” in git-commit(1) or the below:

Git internal format = <unix timestamp> <time zone offset>, e.g.  1112926393 +0200
RFC 2822            = e.g. Thu, 07 Apr 2005 22:13:13 +0200
ISO 8601            = e.g. 2005-04-07T22:13:13

The only command that writes a new commit during normal use is git commit. It also has a --date option that lets you directly specify the author date. Your anticipated usage includes git filter-branch --env-filter also uses the environment variables mentioned above (these are part of the “env” after which the option is named; see “Options” in git-filter-branch(1) and the underlying “plumbing” command git-commit-tree(1).

Inserting a File Into a Single ref History

If your repository is very simple (i.e. you only have a single branch, no tags), then you can probably use git rebase to do the work.

In the following commands, use the object name (SHA-1 hash) of the commit instead of “A”. Do not forget to use one of the “date override” methods when you run git commit.

---A---B---C---o---o---o   master

git checkout master
git checkout A~0
git add path/to/file
git commit --date='whenever'
git tag ,new-commit -m'delete me later'
git checkout -
git rebase --onto ,new-commit A
git tag -d ,new-commit

---A---N (was ",new-commit", but we delete the tag)
        \
         B'---C'---o---o---o   master

If you wanted to update A to include the new file (instead of creating a new commit where it was added), then use git commit --amend instead of git commit. The result would look like this:

---A'---B'---C'---o---o---o   master

The above works as long as you can name the commit that should be the parent of your new commit. If you actually want your new file to be added via a new root commit (no parents), then you need something a bit different:

B---C---o---o---o   master

git checkout master
git checkout --orphan new-root
git rm -rf .
git add path/to/file
GIT_AUTHOR_DATE='whenever' git commit
git checkout -
git rebase --root --onto new-root
git branch -d new-root

N (was new-root, but we deleted it)
 \
  B'---C'---o---o---o   master

git checkout --orphan is relatively new (Git 1.7.2), but there are other ways of doing the same thing that work on older versions of Git.

Inserting a File Into a Multi-ref History

If your repository is more complex (i.e. it has more than one ref (branches, tags, etc.)), then you will probably need to use git filter-branch. Before using git filter-branch, you should make a backup copy of your entire repository. A simple tar archive of your entire working tree (including the .git directory) is sufficient. git filter-branch does make backup refs, but it is often easier to recover from a not-quite-right filtering by just deleting your .git directory and restoring it from your backup.

Note: The examples below use the lower-level command git update-index --add instead of git add. You could use git add, but you would first need to copy the file from some external location to the expected path (--index-filter runs its command in a temporary GIT_WORK_TREE that is empty).

If you want your new file to be added to every existing commit, then you can do this:

new_file=$(git hash-object -w path/to/file)
git filter-branch \
  --index-filter \
    'git update-index --add --cacheinfo 100644 '"$new_file"' path/to/file' \
  --tag-name-filter cat \
  -- --all
git reset --hard

I do not really see any reason to change the dates of the existing commits with --env-filter 'GIT_AUTHOR_DATE=…'. If you did use it, you would have make it conditional so that it would rewrite the date for every commit.

If you want your new file to appear only in the commits after some existing commit (“A”), then you can do this:

file_path=path/to/file
before_commit=$(git rev-parse --verify A)
file_blob=$(git hash-object -w "$file_path")
git filter-branch \
  --index-filter '

    if x=$(git rev-list -1 "$GIT_COMMIT" --not '"$before_commit"') &&
       test -n "$x"; then
         git update-index --add --cacheinfo 100644 '"$file_blob $file_path"'
    fi

  ' \
  --tag-name-filter cat \
  -- --all
git reset --hard

If you want the file to be added via a new commit that is to be inserted into the middle of your history, then you will need to generate the new commit prior to using git filter-branch and add --parent-filter to git filter-branch:

file_path=path/to/file
before_commit=$(git rev-parse --verify A)

git checkout master
git checkout "$before_commit"
git add "$file_path"
git commit --date='whenever'
new_commit=$(git rev-parse --verify HEAD)
file_blob=$(git rev-parse --verify HEAD:"$file_path")
git checkout -

git filter-branch \
  --parent-filter "sed -e s/$before_commit/$new_commit/g" \
  --index-filter '

    if x=$(git rev-list -1 "$GIT_COMMIT" --not '"$new_commit"') &&
       test -n "$x"; then
         git update-index --add --cacheinfo 100644 '"$file_blob $file_path"'
    fi

  ' \
  --tag-name-filter cat \
  -- --all
git reset --hard

You could also arrange for the file to be first added in a new root commit: create your new root commit via the “orphan” method from the git rebase section (capture it in new_commit), use the unconditional --index-filter, and a --parent-filter like "sed -e \"s/^$/-p $new_commit/\"".

How to pass an array within a query string?

I use React and Rails. I did:

js

  let params = {
    filter_array: ['A', 'B', 'C']
  }

  ...

  //transform params in URI

  Object.keys(params).map(key => {
    if (Array.isArray(params[key])) {
      return params[key].map((value) => `${key}[]=${value}`).join('&')
    }
  }
  //filter_array[]=A&filter_array[]=B&filter_array[]=C

How to declare a inline object with inline variables without a parent class

You can also do this:

var x = new object[] {
    new { firstName = "john", lastName = "walter" },
    new { brand = "BMW" }
};

And if they are the same anonymous type (firstName and lastName), you won't need to cast as object.

var y = new [] {
    new { firstName = "john", lastName = "walter" },
    new { firstName = "jill", lastName = "white" }
};

How to import image (.svg, .png ) in a React Component

Simple way is using location.origin
it will return your domain
ex
http://localhost:8000
https://yourdomain.com

then concat with some string...
Enjoy...

<img src={ location.origin+"/images/robot.svg"} alt="robot"/>

More images ?

var images =[
"img1.jpg",
"img2.png",
"img3.jpg",
]

images.map( (image,index) => (

  <img key={index}
       src={ location.origin+"/images/"+image}
       alt="robot"
  />
) )

The easiest way to transform collection to array?

For example, you have collection ArrayList with elements Student class:

List stuList = new ArrayList();
Student s1 = new Student("Raju");
Student s2 = new Student("Harish");
stuList.add(s1);
stuList.add(s2);
//now you can convert this collection stuList to Array like this
Object[] stuArr = stuList.toArray(); // <----- toArray() function will convert collection to array

Arduino error: does not name a type?

The two includes you mention in your comment are essential. 'does not name a type' just means there is no definition for that identifier visible to the compiler. If there are errors in the LCD library you mention, then those need to be addressed - omitting the #include will definitely not fix it!

Two notes from experience which might be helpful:

  1. You need to add all #include's to the main sketch - irrespective of whether they are included via another #include.

  2. If you add files to the library folder, the Arduino IDE must be restarted before those new files will be visible.

Encrypt and Decrypt text with RSA in PHP

If you are using PHP >= 7.2 consider using inbuilt sodium core extension for encrption.

It is modern and more secure. You can find more information here - http://php.net/manual/en/intro.sodium.php. and here - https://paragonie.com/book/pecl-libsodium/read/00-intro.md

Example PHP 7.2 sodium encryption class -

<?php

/**
 * Simple sodium crypto class for PHP >= 7.2
 * @author MRK
 */
class crypto {

    /**
     *
     * @return type
     */
    static public function create_encryption_key() {
        return base64_encode(sodium_crypto_secretbox_keygen());
    }

    /**
     * Encrypt a message
     *
     * @param string $message - message to encrypt
     * @param string $key - encryption key created using create_encryption_key()
     * @return string
     */
    static function encrypt($message, $key) {
        $key_decoded = base64_decode($key);
        $nonce = random_bytes(
                SODIUM_CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES
        );

        $cipher = base64_encode(
                $nonce .
                sodium_crypto_secretbox(
                        $message, $nonce, $key_decoded
                )
        );
        sodium_memzero($message);
        sodium_memzero($key_decoded);
        return $cipher;
    }

    /**
     * Decrypt a message
     * @param string $encrypted - message encrypted with safeEncrypt()
     * @param string $key - key used for encryption
     * @return string
     */
    static function decrypt($encrypted, $key) {
        $decoded = base64_decode($encrypted);
        $key_decoded = base64_decode($key);
        if ($decoded === false) {
            throw new Exception('Decryption error : the encoding failed');
        }
        if (mb_strlen($decoded, '8bit') < (SODIUM_CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES + SODIUM_CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_MACBYTES)) {
            throw new Exception('Decryption error : the message was truncated');
        }
        $nonce = mb_substr($decoded, 0, SODIUM_CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES, '8bit');
        $ciphertext = mb_substr($decoded, SODIUM_CRYPTO_SECRETBOX_NONCEBYTES, null, '8bit');

        $plain = sodium_crypto_secretbox_open(
                $ciphertext, $nonce, $key_decoded
        );
        if ($plain === false) {
            throw new Exception('Decryption error : the message was tampered with in transit');
        }
        sodium_memzero($ciphertext);
        sodium_memzero($key_decoded);
        return $plain;
    }

}

Sample Usage -

<?php

$key = crypto::create_encryption_key();

$string = 'Sri Lanka is a beautiful country !';

echo $enc = crypto::encrypt($string, $key);
echo crypto::decrypt($enc, $key);

What is the JavaScript version of sleep()?

2019 Update using Atomics.wait

Should work in Node 9.3 or higher.

I needed a pretty accurate timer in Node.js and it works great for that. However it seems like there is extremely limited support in browsers.

How to check if an array element exists?

You can also use array_keys for number of occurrences

<?php
$array=array('1','2','6','6','6','5');
$i=count(array_keys($array, 6));
if($i>0)
 echo "Element exists in Array";
?>

How can I limit possible inputs in a HTML5 "number" element?

As stated by others, min/max is not the same as maxlength because people could still enter a float that would be larger than the maximum string length that you intended. To truly emulate the maxlength attribute, you can do something like this in a pinch (this is equivalent to maxlength="16"):

<input type="number" oninput="if(value.length>16)value=value.slice(0,16)">

How to extract the nth word and count word occurrences in a MySQL string?

I used Brendan Bullen's answer as a starting point for a similar issue I had which was to retrive the value of a specific field in a JSON string. However, like I commented on his answer, it is not entirely accurate. If your left boundary isn't just a space like in the original question, then the discrepancy increases.

Corrected solution:

SUBSTRING(
    sentence,
    LOCATE(' ', sentence) + 1,
    LOCATE(' ', sentence, (LOCATE(' ', sentence) + 1)) - LOCATE(' ', sentence) - 1
)

The two differences are the +1 in the SUBSTRING index parameter and the -1 in the length parameter.

For a more general solution to "find the first occurence of a string between two provided boundaries":

SUBSTRING(
    haystack,
    LOCATE('<leftBoundary>', haystack) + CHAR_LENGTH('<leftBoundary>'),
    LOCATE(
        '<rightBoundary>',
        haystack,
        LOCATE('<leftBoundary>', haystack) + CHAR_LENGTH('<leftBoundary>')
    )
    - (LOCATE('<leftBoundary>', haystack) + CHAR_LENGTH('<leftBoundary>'))
)

How do you change the formatting options in Visual Studio Code?

To change specifically C# (OmniSharp) formatting settings you can use a json file:
User: ~/.omnisharp/omnisharp.json or %USERPROFILE%\.omnisharp\omnisharp.json
Workspace: omnisharp.json file in the working directory which OmniSharp has been pointed at.

Example:

{
  "FormattingOptions": {
    "NewLinesForBracesInMethods": false,
    "NewLinesForBracesInProperties": false,
    "NewLinesForBracesInAccessors": false,
    "NewLinesForBracesInAnonymousMethods": false,
    "NewLinesForBracesInControlBlocks": false,
    "NewLinesForBracesInObjectCollectionArrayInitializers": false,
    "NewLinesForBracesInLambdaExpressionBody": false
  }
}

Regex to match only letters

Depending on your meaning of "character":

[A-Za-z] - all letters (uppercase and lowercase)

[^0-9] - all non-digit characters

Add (insert) a column between two columns in a data.frame

R has no functionality to specify where a new column is added. E.g., mtcars$mycol<-'foo'. It always is added as last column. Using other means (e.g., dplyr's select()) you can move the mycol to a desired position. This is not ideal and R may want to try to change that in the future.

Dynamic require in RequireJS, getting "Module name has not been loaded yet for context" error?

Answering to myself. From the RequireJS website:

//THIS WILL FAIL
define(['require'], function (require) {
    var namedModule = require('name');
});

This fails because requirejs needs to be sure to load and execute all dependencies before calling the factory function above. [...] So, either do not pass in the dependency array, or if using the dependency array, list all the dependencies in it.

My solution:

// Modules configuration (modules that will be used as Jade helpers)
define(function () {
    return {
        'moment':   'path/to/moment',
        'filesize': 'path/to/filesize',
        '_':        'path/to/lodash',
        '_s':       'path/to/underscore.string'
    };
});

The loader:

define(['jade', 'lodash', 'config'], function (Jade, _, Config) {
    var deps;

    // Dynamic require
    require(_.values(Config), function () {
        deps = _.object(_.keys(Config), arguments);

        // Use deps...
    });
});

git status shows modifications, git checkout -- <file> doesn't remove them

We faced a similar situation in our company. None of the proposed methods did not help us. As a result of the research, the problem was revealed. The thing was that in Git there were two files, the names of which differed only in the register of symbols. Unix-systems saw them as two different files, but Windows was going crazy. To solve the problem, we deleted one of the files on the server. After that, at the local repositories on Windows helped the next few commands (in different sequences):

How to build PDF file from binary string returned from a web-service using javascript

I work in PHP and use a function to decode the binary data sent back from the server. I extract the information an input to a simple file.php and view the file through my server and all browser display the pdf artefact.

<?php

How to use onClick() or onSelect() on option tag in a JSP page?

Other option, for similar example but with anidated selects, think that you have two select, the name of the first is "ea_pub_dest" and the name of the second is "ea_pub_dest_2", ok, now take the event click of the first and display the second.

<script>

function test()
{
    value = document.getElementById("ea_pub_dest").value;
    if ( valor == "value_1" )
        document.getElementById("ea_pub_dest_nivel").style.display = "block";

Creating SVG elements dynamically with javascript inside HTML

To facilitate svg editing you can use an intermediate function:

function getNode(n, v) {
  n = document.createElementNS("http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", n);
  for (var p in v)
    n.setAttributeNS(null, p, v[p]);
  return n
}

Now you can write:

svg.appendChild( getNode('rect', { width:200, height:20, fill:'#ff0000' }) );

Example (with an improved getNode function allowing camelcase for property with dash, eg strokeWidth > stroke-width):

_x000D_
_x000D_
function getNode(n, v) {_x000D_
  n = document.createElementNS("http://www.w3.org/2000/svg", n);_x000D_
  for (var p in v)_x000D_
    n.setAttributeNS(null, p.replace(/[A-Z]/g, function(m, p, o, s) { return "-" + m.toLowerCase(); }), v[p]);_x000D_
  return n_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
var svg = getNode("svg");_x000D_
document.body.appendChild(svg);_x000D_
_x000D_
var r = getNode('rect', { x: 10, y: 10, width: 100, height: 20, fill:'#ff00ff' });_x000D_
svg.appendChild(r);_x000D_
_x000D_
var r = getNode('rect', { x: 20, y: 40, width: 100, height: 40, rx: 8, ry: 8, fill: 'pink', stroke:'purple', strokeWidth:7 });_x000D_

UUID max character length

This is the perfect kind of field to define as CHAR 36, by the way, not VARCHAR 36, since each value will have the exact same length. And you'll use less storage space, since you don't need to store the data length for each value, just the value.

How to set xlim and ylim for a subplot in matplotlib

You should use the OO interface to matplotlib, rather than the state machine interface. Almost all of the plt.* function are thin wrappers that basically do gca().*.

plt.subplot returns an axes object. Once you have a reference to the axes object you can plot directly to it, change its limits, etc.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

ax1 = plt.subplot(131)
ax1.scatter([1, 2], [3, 4])
ax1.set_xlim([0, 5])
ax1.set_ylim([0, 5])

ax2 = plt.subplot(132)
ax2.scatter([1, 2],[3, 4])
ax2.set_xlim([0, 5])
ax2.set_ylim([0, 5])

and so on for as many axes as you want.

or better, wrap it all up in a loop:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

DATA_x = ([1, 2],
          [2, 3],
          [3, 4])

DATA_y = DATA_x[::-1]

XLIMS = [[0, 10]] * 3
YLIMS = [[0, 10]] * 3

for j, (x, y, xlim, ylim) in enumerate(zip(DATA_x, DATA_y, XLIMS, YLIMS)):
    ax = plt.subplot(1, 3, j + 1)
    ax.scatter(x, y)
    ax.set_xlim(xlim)
    ax.set_ylim(ylim)

Whereas, SQL Server authentication can be used in all the other type of cases.

Removing spaces from a variable input using PowerShell 4.0

You also have the Trim, TrimEnd and TrimStart methods of the System.String class. The trim method will strip whitespace (with a couple of Unicode quirks) from the leading and trailing portion of the string while allowing you to optionally specify the characters to remove.

#Note there are spaces at the beginning and end
Write-Host " ! This is a test string !%^ "
 ! This is a test string !%^
#Strips standard whitespace
Write-Host " ! This is a test string !%^ ".Trim()
! This is a test string !%^
#Strips the characters I specified
Write-Host " ! This is a test string !%^ ".Trim('!',' ')
This is a test string !%^
#Now removing ^ as well
Write-Host " ! This is a test string !%^ ".Trim('!',' ','^')
This is a test string !%
Write-Host " ! This is a test string !%^ ".Trim('!',' ','^','%')
This is a test string
#Powershell even casts strings to character arrays for you
Write-Host " ! This is a test string !%^ ".Trim('! ^%')
This is a test string

TrimStart and TrimEnd work the same way just only trimming the start or end of the string.

Docker Repository Does Not Have a Release File on Running apt-get update on Ubuntu

I still have the same issue. None of the answers above seem to solve it. I have ubuntu 16.04, and I follow the steps described in https://docs.docker.com/install/linux/docker-ce/ubuntu/

I suspect it is related to an apt-get bug regarding https. The information being printed by apt-get is kind of misleading.

I think that Failed to fetch.. can also be translated as: problem accessing resource from within an https connection

How did I come to this conclusion:

First of all I am behind a corporate proxy so I have set the following configuration:

/etc/apt/apt.conf

Acquire::http::proxy "http://squidproxy:8080/";
Acquire::https::proxy "http://squidproxy:8080/";
Acquire::ftp::proxy "ftp://squidproxy:8080/";

Acquire::https::CaInfo     "/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.pem";

/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99proxy

Acquire::http::Proxy {
    localhost DIRECT;
    localhost:9020 DIRECT;
    localhost:9021 DIRECT;
};

In the above cases the url which apt-get Failed to fetch and also the Release file, were actually accessible from browser / wget / curl using the same proxy configuration.
The fact that apt-get worked only with http reverse proxy url, implies that there is some issue accessing resources from within an https connection.
I do not know what this issue is but apt-get should show a more informative message ( apt is even less verbose ).

Note: wiresharking case 1 showed that proxy CONNECT was successful, and no RST was sent, but of course the files could not be read.

Can someone explain mappedBy in JPA and Hibernate?

MappedBy signals hibernate that the key for the relationship is on the other side.

This means that although you link 2 tables together, only 1 of those tables has a foreign key constraint to the other one. MappedBy allows you to still link from the table not containing the constraint to the other table.

Node.js throws "btoa is not defined" error

The 'btoa-atob' module does not export a programmatic interface, it only provides command line utilities.

If you need to convert to Base64 you could do so using Buffer:

console.log(Buffer.from('Hello World!').toString('base64'));

Reverse (assuming the content you're decoding is a utf8 string):

console.log(Buffer.from(b64Encoded, 'base64').toString());

Note: prior to Node v4, use new Buffer rather than Buffer.from.

Perform an action in every sub-directory using Bash

This will create a subshell (which means that variable values will be lost when the while loop exits):

find . -type d | while read -r dir
do
    something
done

This won't:

while read -r dir
do
    something
done < <(find . -type d)

Either one will work if there are spaces in directory names.

Android app unable to start activity componentinfo

Your null pointer exception seems to be on this line:

String url = intent.getExtras().getString("userurl");

because intent.getExtras() returns null when the intent doesn't have any extras.

You have to realize that this piece of code:

Intent Main = new Intent(this, ToClass.class);
Main.putExtra("userurl", url);
startActivity(Main);

doesn't start the activity you wrote in Main.java, it will attempt to start an activity called ToClass and if that doesn't exist, your app crashes.

Also, there is no such thing as "android.intent.action.start" so the manifest should look more like:

<activity android:name=".start" android:label="@string/app_name">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
    </intent-filter>
</activity>
<activity android:name= ".Main">
</activity>

I hope this fixes some of the issues you are encountering but I strongly suggest you check out some "getting started" tutorials for android development and build up from there.

check if file exists on remote host with ssh

In addition to the answers above, there's the shorthand way to do it:

ssh -q $HOST [[ -f $FILE_PATH ]] && echo "File exists" || echo "File does not exist";

-q is quiet mode, it will suppress warnings and messages.

As @Mat mentioned, one advantage of testing like this is that you can easily swap out the -f for any test operator you like: -nt, -d, -s etc...

Test Operators: http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/fto.html

Load HTML file into WebView

In this case, using WebView#loadDataWithBaseUrl() is better than WebView#loadUrl()!

webView.loadDataWithBaseURL(url,
        data,
        "text/html",
        "utf-8",

Open firewall port on CentOS 7

The answer by ganeshragav is correct, but it is also useful to know that you can use:

firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=2888/tcp

but if is a known service, you can use:

firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-service=http

and then reload the firewall

firewall-cmd --reload

[ Answer modified to reflect Martin Peter's comment, original answer had --permanent at end of command line ]

TSQL Default Minimum DateTime

Unless you are doing a DB to track historical times more than a century ago, using

Modified datetime DEFAULT ((0))

is perfectly safe and sound and allows more elegant queries than '1753-01-01' and more efficient queries than NULL.

However, since first Modified datetime is the time at which the record was inserted, you can use:

Modified datetime NOT NULL DEFAULT (GETUTCDATE())

which avoids the whole issue and makes your inserts easier and safer - as in you don't insert it at all and SQL does the housework :-)

With that in place you can still have elegant and fast queries by using 0 as a practical minimum since it's guranteed to always be lower than any insert-generated GETUTCDATE().

Passing arguments to require (when loading module)

I'm not sure if this will still be useful to people, but with ES6 I have a way to do it that I find clean and useful.

class MyClass {
  constructor ( arg1, arg2, arg3 )
  myFunction1 () {...}
  myFunction2 () {...}
  myFunction3 () {...}
}

module.exports = ( arg1, arg2, arg3 ) => { return new MyClass( arg1,arg2,arg3 ) }

And then you get your expected behaviour.

var MyClass = require('/MyClass.js')( arg1, arg2, arg3 )

How to retrieve the hash for the current commit in Git?

Here is one-liner in Bash shell using direct read from git files:

(head=($(<.git/HEAD)); cat .git/${head[1]})

You need to run above command in your git root folder.

This method can be useful when you've repository files, but git command has been not installed.

If won't work, check in .git/refs/heads folder what kind of heads do you have present.

How to run a Runnable thread in Android at defined intervals?

The simple fix to your example is :

handler = new Handler();

final Runnable r = new Runnable() {
    public void run() {
        tv.append("Hello World");
        handler.postDelayed(this, 1000);
    }
};

handler.postDelayed(r, 1000);

Or we can use normal thread for example (with original Runner) :

Thread thread = new Thread() {
    @Override
    public void run() {
        try {
            while(true) {
                sleep(1000);
                handler.post(this);
            }
        } catch (InterruptedException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }
};

thread.start();

You may consider your runnable object just as a command that can be sent to the message queue for execution, and handler as just a helper object used to send that command.

Magento - Retrieve products with a specific attribute value

This is a follow up to my original question to help out others with the same problem. If you need to filter by an attribute, rather than manually looking up the id you can use the following code to retrieve all the id, value pairs for an attribute. The data is returned as an array with the attribute name as the key.

function getAttributeOptions($attributeName) {
    $product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product');
    $collection = Mage::getResourceModel('eav/entity_attribute_collection')
              ->setEntityTypeFilter($product->getResource()->getTypeId())
              ->addFieldToFilter('attribute_code', $attributeName);

    $_attribute = $collection->getFirstItem()->setEntity($product->getResource());
    $attribute_options  = $_attribute->getSource()->getAllOptions(false);
    foreach($attribute_options as $val) {
        $attrList[$val['label']] = $val['value'];
    }

    return $attrList;
}

Here is a function you can use to get products by their attribute set id. Retrieved using the previous function.

function getProductsByAttributeSetId($attributeSetId) {
   $products = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->getCollection();
   $products->addAttributeToFilter('attribute_set_id',$attributeSetId);

   $products->addAttributeToSelect('*');

   $products->load();
   foreach($products as $val) {
     $productsArray[] = $val->getData();
  }

  return $productsArray;
}

Double precision - decimal places

Decimal representation of floating point numbers is kind of strange. If you have a number with 15 decimal places and convert that to a double, then print it out with exactly 15 decimal places, you should get the same number. On the other hand, if you print out an arbitrary double with 15 decimal places and the convert it back to a double, you won't necessarily get the same value back—you need 17 decimal places for that. And neither 15 nor 17 decimal places are enough to accurately display the exact decimal equivalent of an arbitrary double. In general, you need over 100 decimal places to do that precisely.

See the Wikipedia page for double-precision and this article on floating-point precision.

PDF Parsing Using Python - extracting formatted and plain texts

That's a difficult problem to solve since visually similar PDFs may have a wildly differing structure depending on how they were produced. In the worst case the library would need to basically act like an OCR. On the other hand, the PDF may contain sufficient structure and metadata for easy removal of tables and figures, which the library can be tailored to take advantage of.

I'm pretty sure there are no open source tools which solve your problem for a wide variety of PDFs, but I remember having heard of commercial software claiming to do exactly what you ask for. I'm sure you'll run into them while googling.

D3.js: How to get the computed width and height for an arbitrary element?

For SVG elements

Using something like selection.node().getBBox() you get values like

{

    y: 50,
    x: 20
}

For HTML elements

Use selection.node().getBoundingClientRect()

How can I tell where mongoDB is storing data? (its not in the default /data/db!)

Actually, the default directory where the mongod instance stores its data is

/data/db on Linux and OS X,

\data\db on Windows

To check the same, you can look for dbPath settings in mongodb configuration file.

  • On Linux, the location is /etc/mongod.conf, if you have used package manager to install MongoDB. Run the following command to check the specified directory:
    grep dbpath /etc/mongodb.conf

  • On Windows, the location is <install directory>/bin/mongod.cfg. Open mongod.cfg file and check for dbPath option.
  • On macOS, the location is /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf when installing from MongoDB’s official Homebrew tap.

The default mongod.conf configuration file included with package manager installations uses the following platform-specific default values for storage.dbPath:

+--------------------------+-----------------+------------------------+
|         Platform         | Package Manager | Default storage.dbPath |
+--------------------------+-----------------+------------------------+
| RHEL / CentOS and Amazon | yum             | /var/lib/mongo         |
| SUSE                     | zypper          | /var/lib/mongo         |
| Ubuntu and Debian        | apt             | /var/lib/mongodb       |
| macOS                    | brew            | /usr/local/var/mongodb |
+--------------------------+-----------------+------------------------+

The storage.dbPath setting in the configuration file is available only for mongod.

The Linux package init scripts do not expect storage.dbPath to change from the defaults. If you use the Linux packages and change storage.dbPath, you will have to use your own init scripts and disable the built-in scripts.

Replace Fragment inside a ViewPager

This is my way to achieve that.

First of all add Root_fragment inside viewPager tab in which you want to implement button click fragment event. Example;

@Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
  if(position==0)
      return RootTabFragment.newInstance();
  else
      return SecondPagerFragment.newInstance();
}

First of all, RootTabFragment should be include FragmentLayout for fragment change.

<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
   xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
   android:id="@+id/root_frame"
   android:layout_width="match_parent"
   android:layout_height="match_parent">
</FrameLayout>

Then, inside RootTabFragment onCreateView, implement fragmentChange for your FirstPagerFragment

getChildFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.root_frame, FirstPagerFragment.newInstance()).commit();

After that, implement onClick event for your button inside FirstPagerFragment and make fragment change like that again.

getChildFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.root_frame, NextFragment.newInstance()).commit();

Hope this will help you guy.

How can I tell jackson to ignore a property for which I don't have control over the source code?

I had a similar issue, but it was related to Hibernate's bi-directional relationships. I wanted to show one side of the relationship and programmatically ignore the other, depending on what view I was dealing with. If you can't do that, you end up with nasty StackOverflowExceptions. For instance, if I had these objects

public class A{
  Long id;
  String name;
  List<B> children;
}

public class B{
  Long id;
  A parent;
}

I would want to programmatically ignore the parent field in B if I were looking at A, and ignore the children field in A if I were looking at B.

I started off using mixins to do this, but that very quickly becomes horrible; you have so many useless classes laying around that exist solely to format data. I ended up writing my own serializer to handle this in a cleaner way: https://github.com/monitorjbl/json-view.

It allows you programmatically specify what fields to ignore:

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
SimpleModule module = new SimpleModule();
module.addSerializer(JsonView.class, new JsonViewSerializer());
mapper.registerModule(module);

List<A> list = getListOfA();
String json = mapper.writeValueAsString(JsonView.with(list)
    .onClass(B.class, match()
        .exclude("parent")));

It also lets you easily specify very simplified views through wildcard matchers:

String json = mapper.writeValueAsString(JsonView.with(list)
    .onClass(A.class, match()
        .exclude("*")
         .include("id", "name")));

In my original case, the need for simple views like this was to show the bare minimum about the parent/child, but it also became useful for our role-based security. Less privileged views of objects needed to return less information about the object.

All of this comes from the serializer, but I was using Spring MVC in my app. To get it to properly handle these cases, I wrote an integration that you can drop in to existing Spring controller classes:

@Controller
public class JsonController {
  private JsonResult json = JsonResult.instance();
  @Autowired
  private TestObjectService service;

  @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.GET, value = "/bean")
  @ResponseBody
  public List<TestObject> getTestObject() {
    List<TestObject> list = service.list();

    return json.use(JsonView.with(list)
        .onClass(TestObject.class, Match.match()
            .exclude("int1")
            .include("ignoredDirect")))
        .returnValue();
  }
}

Both are available on Maven Central. I hope it helps someone else out there, this is a particularly ugly problem with Jackson that didn't have a good solution for my case.

Angular 5, HTML, boolean on checkbox is checked

   otherProperty : type;
   ...
}

In .html

In .ts

update the rows in component.ts

Compiling a C++ program with gcc

gcc can actually compile c++ code just fine. The errors you received are linker errors, not compiler errors.

Odds are that if you change the compilation line to be this:

gcc info.C -lstdc++

which makes it link to the standard c++ library, then it will work just fine.

However, you should just make your life easier and use g++.

EDIT:

Rup says it best in his comment to another answer:

[...] gcc will select the correct back-end compiler based on file extension (i.e. will compile a .c as C and a .cc as C++) and links binaries against just the standard C and GCC helper libraries by default regardless of input languages; g++ will also select the correct back-end based on extension except that I think it compiles all C source as C++ instead (i.e. it compiles both .c and .cc as C++) and it includes libstdc++ in its link step regardless of input languages.

Why is IoC / DI not common in Python?

Haven't used Python in several years, but I would say that it has more to do with it being a dynamically typed language than anything else. For a simple example, in Java, if I wanted to test that something wrote to standard out appropriately I could use DI and pass in any PrintStream to capture the text being written and verify it. When I'm working in Ruby, however, I can dynamically replace the 'puts' method on STDOUT to do the verify, leaving DI completely out of the picture. If the only reason I'm creating an abstraction is to test the class that's using it (think File system operations or the clock in Java) then DI/IoC creates unnecessary complexity in the solution.

How to change the default collation of a table?

MySQL has 4 levels of collation: server, database, table, column. If you change the collation of the server, database or table, you don't change the setting for each column, but you change the default collations.

E.g if you change the default collation of a database, each new table you create in that database will use that collation, and if you change the default collation of a table, each column you create in that table will get that collation.

What do column flags mean in MySQL Workbench?

This exact question is answered on mySql workbench-faq:

Hover over an acronym to view a description, and see the Section 8.1.11.2, “The Columns Tab” and MySQL CREATE TABLE documentation for additional details.

That means hover over an acronym in the mySql Workbench table editor.

Cannot run Eclipse; JVM terminated. Exit code=13

You need to check if your PC has a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system, then same goes for your JDK (64-bit/32-bit) and also for Eclipse (64-bit/32-bit).

Make sure they are all the same; if not, you need to download the one that matches your bitness.

Changing file permission in Python

Just add 0 before the permission number:
For example - we want to give all permissions - 777
Syntax: os.chmod("file_name" , permission)

import os
os.chmod("file_name" , 0777)

Python version 3.7 does not support this syntax. It requires '0o' prefix for octal literals - this is the comment I have got in PyCharm

So for python 3.7, it will be

import os
os.chmod("file_name" , 0o777)

The details in the comments section above did not work for me (VS 2013) when trying to copy the output dll from one C++ project to the release and debug folder of another C# project within the same solution.

now I added these two lines to copy the output dll into the two folders:

xcopy /y $(TargetPath) $(SolutionDir)aeiscontroller\bin\Release
xcopy /y $(TargetPath) $(SolutionDir)aeiscontroller\bin\Debug

VueJS conditionally add an attribute for an element

You can add colon before attribute (also can use conditions) like

<button :disabled="InvalidForm? true : false " >

If you want to set a dynamic value like props then you also can use colon before attribute name like :

<Child :data="userList" />

There is already an object named in the database

In my case, my EFMigrationsHistory table was emptied (somehow) and when trying to run update-database I would get:

There is already an object named 'AspNetUsers' in the database

After seeing the table had been emptied it made sense that it was trying to rerun the initial migration and trying to recreate the tables.

To fix this problem I added rows into my EFMigrationsHistory table. 1 row for each migration that I knew the database was up to date with.

A row will have 2 columns: MigrationId and ProductVersion

MigrationId is the name of your migration file. Example: 20170628112345_Initial

ProductVersion is the ef version you're running. You can find this by typing Get-Package into the Package Manager Console and looking for your ef package.

Hope this is helpful for someone.

How to run a script at the start up of Ubuntu?

First of all, the easiest way to run things at startup is to add them to the file /etc/rc.local.

Another simple way is to use @reboot in your crontab. Read the cron manpage for details.

However, if you want to do things properly, in addition to adding a script to /etc/init.d you need to tell ubuntu when the script should be run and with what parameters. This is done with the command update-rc.d which creates a symlink from some of the /etc/rc* directories to your script. So, you'd need to do something like:

update-rc.d yourscriptname start 2

However, real init scripts should be able to handle a variety of command line options and otherwise integrate to the startup process. The file /etc/init.d/README has some details and further pointers.

How to find if a file contains a given string using Windows command line

I've used a DOS command line to do this. Two lines, actually. The first one to make the "current directory" the folder where the file is - or the root folder of a group of folders where the file can be. The second line does the search.

C:\TheFolder>FINDSTR /L /S /I /N /C:"TheString" *.PRG

You can find details about the parameters at this link.

Hope it helps!

System.loadLibrary(...) couldn't find native library in my case

For reference, I had this error message and the solution was that when you specify the library you miss the 'lib' off the front and the '.so' from the end.

So, if you have a file libmyfablib.so, you need to call:

   System.loadLibrary("myfablib"); // this loads the file 'libmyfablib.so'

Having looked in the apk, installed/uninstalled and tried all kinds of complex solutions I couldn't see the simple problem that was right in front of my face!

How to export data from Excel spreadsheet to Sql Server 2008 table

From your SQL Server Management Studio, you open Object Explorer, go to your database where you want to load the data into, right click, then pick Tasks > Import Data.

This opens the Import Data Wizard, which typically works pretty well for importing from Excel. You can pick an Excel file, pick what worksheet to import data from, you can choose what table to store it into, and what the columns are going to be. Pretty flexible indeed.

You can run this as a one-off, or you can store it as a SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package into your file system, or into SQL Server itself, and execute it over and over again (even scheduled to run at a given time, using SQL Agent).

Update: yes, yes, yes, you can do all those things you keep asking - have you even tried at least once to run that wizard??

OK, here it comes - step by step:

Step 1: pick your Excel source

enter image description here

Step 2: pick your SQL Server target database

enter image description here

Step 3: pick your source worksheet (from Excel) and your target table in your SQL Server database; see the "Edit Mappings" button!

enter image description here

Step 4: check (and change, if needed) your mappings of Excel columns to SQL Server columns in the table:

enter image description here

Step 5: if you want to use it later on, save your SSIS package to SQL Server:

enter image description here

Step 6: - success! This is on a 64-bit machine, works like a charm - just do it!!

jQuery DataTable overflow and text-wrapping issues

I settled for the limitation (to some people a benefit) of having my rows only one line of text high. The CSS to contain long strings then becomes:

.datatable td {
  overflow: hidden; /* this is what fixes the expansion */
  text-overflow: ellipsis; /* not supported in all browsers, but I accepted the tradeoff */
  white-space: nowrap;
}

[edit to add:] After using my own code and initially failing, I recognized a second requirement that might help people. The table itself needs to have a fixed layout or the cells will just keep trying to expand to accomodate contents no matter what. If DataTables styles or your own styles don't already do so, you need to set it:

table.someTableClass {
  table-layout: fixed
}

Now that text is truncated with ellipses, to actually "see" the text that is potentially hidden you can implement a tooltip plugin or a details button or something. But a quick and dirty solution is to use JavaScript to set each cell's title to be identical to its contents. I used jQuery, but you don't have to:

  $('.datatable tbody td').each(function(index){
    $this = $(this);
    var titleVal = $this.text();
    if (typeof titleVal === "string" && titleVal !== '') {
      $this.attr('title', titleVal);
    }
  });

DataTables also provides callbacks at the row and cell rendering levels, so you could provide logic to set the titles at that point instead of with a jQuery.each iterator. But if you have other listeners that modify cell text, you might just be better off hitting them with the jQuery.each at the end.

This entire truncation method will ALSO have a limitation you've indicated you're not a fan of: by default columns will have the same width. I identify columns that are going to be consistently wide or consistently narrow, and explicitly set a percentage-based width on them (you could do it in your markup or with sWidth). Any columns without an explicit width get even distribution of the remaining space.

That might seem like a lot of compromises, but the end result was worth it for me.

Convert array into csv

function array_2_csv($array) {
    $csv = array();
    foreach ($array as $item) {
        if (is_array($item)) {
            $csv[] = array_2_csv($item);
        } else {
            $csv[] = $item;
        }
    }
    return implode(',', $csv);
}

$csv_data = array_2_csv($array);

echo "<pre>";
print_r($csv_data);
echo '</pre>'   ;

android - listview get item view by position

Use this :

public View getViewByPosition(int pos, ListView listView) {
    final int firstListItemPosition = listView.getFirstVisiblePosition();
    final int lastListItemPosition = firstListItemPosition + listView.getChildCount() - 1;

    if (pos < firstListItemPosition || pos > lastListItemPosition ) {
        return listView.getAdapter().getView(pos, null, listView);
    } else {
        final int childIndex = pos - firstListItemPosition;
        return listView.getChildAt(childIndex);
    }
}

How to change the link color in a specific class for a div CSS

smaller-size version:

#register a:link {color: #fff}

Multiple left-hand assignment with JavaScript

Assignment in javascript works from right to left. var var1 = var2 = var3 = 1;.

If the value of any of these variables is 1 after this statement, then logically it must have started from the right, otherwise the value or var1 and var2 would be undefined.

You can think of it as equivalent to var var1 = (var2 = (var3 = 1)); where the inner-most set of parenthesis is evaluated first.

Using "If cell contains #N/A" as a formula condition.

A possible alternative approach in Excel 2010 or later versions:

AGGREGATE(6,6,A1,B1)

In AGGREGATE function the first 6 indicates PRODUCT operation and the second 6 denotes "ignore errors"

display Java.util.Date in a specific format

You need to go through SimpleDateFormat.format in order to format the date as a string.

Here's an example that goes from String -> Date -> String.

SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
Date date = dateFormat.parse("31/05/2011");

System.out.println(dateFormat.format(date));   // prints 31/05/2011
//                            ^^^^^^

How can I convert my Java program to an .exe file?

javapackager

The Java Packager tool compiles, packages, and prepares Java and JavaFX applications for distribution. The javapackager command is the command-line version.

– Oracle's documentation

The javapackager utility ships with the JDK. It can generate .exe files with the -native exe flag, among many other things.

WinRun4J

WinRun4j is a java launcher for windows. It is an alternative to javaw.exe and provides the following benefits:

  • Uses an INI file for specifying classpath, main class, vm args, program args.
  • Custom executable name that appears in task manager.
  • Additional JVM args for more flexible memory use.
  • Built-in icon replacer for custom icon.
  • [more bullet points follow]

– WinRun4J's webpage

WinRun4J is an open source utility. It has many features.

packr

Packages your JAR, assets and a JVM for distribution on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, adding a native executable file to make it appear like a native app. Packr is most suitable for GUI applications.

– packr README

packr is another open source tool.

JSmooth

JSmooth is a Java Executable Wrapper. It creates native Windows launchers (standard .exe) for your java applications. It makes java deployment much smoother and user-friendly, as it is able to find any installed Java VM by itself.

– JSmooth's website

JSmooth is open source and has features, but it is very old. The last release was in 2007.

JexePack

JexePack is a command line tool (great for automated scripting) that allows you to package your Java application (class files), optionally along with its resources (like GIF/JPG/TXT/etc), into a single compressed 32-bit Windows EXE, which runs using Sun's Java Runtime Environment. Both console and windowed applications are supported.

– JexePack's website

JexePack is trialware. Payment is required for production use, and exe files created with this tool will display "reminders" without payment. Also, the last release was in 2013.

InstallAnywhere

InstallAnywhere makes it easy for developers to create professional installation software for any platform. With InstallAnywhere, you’ll adapt to industry changes quickly, get to market faster and deliver an engaging customer experience. And know the vulnerability of your project’s OSS components before you ship.

– InstallAnywhere's website

InstallAnywhere is a commercial/enterprise package that generates installers for Java-based programs. It's probably capable of creating .exe files.

Executable JAR files

As an alternative to .exe files, you can create a JAR file that automatically runs when double-clicked, by adding an entry point to the JAR manifest.

How to ignore files/directories in TFS for avoiding them to go to central source repository?

I found the perfect way to Ignore files in TFS like SVN does.
First of all, select the file that you want to ignore (e.g. the Web.config).
Now go to the menu tab and select:

File Source control > Advanced > Exclude web.config from source control

... and boom; your file is permanently excluded from source control.

cURL POST command line on WINDOWS RESTful service

  1. Try to use double quotes (") instead of single ones (').
  2. To preserve JSON format quotes, try doubling them ("").
  3. To preserve quotes inside data, try to double-escape them like this (\\"").

    curl ... -d "{""data1"": ""data1 goes here"", ""data2"": ""data2 goes here""}"
    curl ... -d "{""data"": ""data \\""abc\\"" goes here""}"

Apply CSS styles to an element depending on its child elements

In my case, I had to change the cell padding of an element that contained an input checkbox for a table that's being dynamically rendered with DataTables:

<td class="dt-center">
    <input class="a" name="constCheck" type="checkbox" checked="">
</td>

After implementing the following line code within the initComplete function I was able to produce the correct padding, which fixed the rows from being displayed with an abnormally large height

 $('tbody td:has(input.a)').css('padding', '0px');

Now, you can see that the correct styles are being applied to the parent element:

<td class=" dt-center" style="padding: 0px;">
    <input class="a" name="constCheck" type="checkbox" checked="">
</td>

Essentially, this answer is an extension of @KP's answer, but the more collaboration of implementing this the better. In summation, I hope this helps someone else because it works! Lastly, thank you so much @KP for leading me in the right direction!

How link to any local file with markdown syntax?

If the file is in the same directory as the one where the .md is, then just putting [Click here](MY-FILE.md) should work.

Otherwise, can create a path from the root directory of the project. So if the entire project/git-repo root directory is called 'my-app', and one wants to point to my-app/client/read-me.md, then try [My hyperlink](/client/read-me.md).

At least works from Chrome.

How to fix 'Notice: Undefined index:' in PHP form action

Assuming you only copy/pasted the relevant code and your form includes <form method="POST">

if(isset($_POST['filename'])){
    $filename = $_POST['filename'];
}
if(isset($filename)){
    echo $filename;
}

If _POST is not set the filename variable won't be either in the above example.

An alternative way:

$filename = false;
if(isset($_POST['filename'])){
    $filename = $_POST['filename'];
 }
    echo $filename; //guarenteed to be set so isset not needed

In this example filename is set regardless of the situation with _POST. This should demonstrate the use of isset nicely.

How to delete a line from a text file in C#?

I wrote a method to delete lines from files.

This program uses using System.IO.

See my code:

void File_DeleteLine(int Line, string Path)
{
    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
    using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(Path))
    {
        int Countup = 0;
        while (!sr.EndOfStream)
        {
            Countup++;
            if (Countup != Line)
            {
                using (StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(sb))
                {
                    sw.WriteLine(sr.ReadLine());
                }
            }
            else
            {
                sr.ReadLine();
            }
        }
    }
    using (StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(Path))
    {
        sw.Write(sb.ToString());
    }
}

Reporting Services permissions on SQL Server R2 SSRS

but the user permission to browse the root folder was also required. Note The "Folder setting" in root folder

another time i had similar problem and adding users in the following windows group SQLServerReportServerUser$servername$MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER and running IE as Administrator or turning off UAC resolved my problem .

How do I format currencies in a Vue component?

UPDATE: I suggest using a solution with filters, provided by @Jess.

I would write a method for that, and then where you need to format price you can just put the method in the template and pass value down

methods: {
    formatPrice(value) {
        let val = (value/1).toFixed(2).replace('.', ',')
        return val.toString().replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ".")
    }
}

And then in template:

<template>
    <div>
        <div class="panel-group"v-for="item in list">
            <div class="col-md-8">
                <small>
                   Total: <b>{{ formatPrice(item.total) }}</b>
                </small>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
</template>

BTW - I didn't put too much care on replacing and regular expression. It could be improved.enter code here

Difference in System. exit(0) , System.exit(-1), System.exit(1 ) in Java

A non-zero exit status code, usually indicates abnormal termination. if n != 0, its up to the programmer to apply a meaning to the various n's.
