How to pass multiple arguments in processStartInfo?

It is purely a string:

startInfo.Arguments = "-sk server -sky exchange -pe -n CN=localhost -ir LocalMachine -is Root -ic MyCA.cer -sr LocalMachine -ss My MyAdHocTestCert.cer"

Of course, when arguments contain whitespaces you'll have to escape them using \" \", like:

"... -ss \"My MyAdHocTestCert.cer\""

See MSDN for this.

Set proxy through windows command line including login parameters

Can't start hostednetwork

I encountered this problem on my laptop. I found the solution for this problem.

  1. Test this command in the command prompt "netsh wlan show driver".
  2. See Hosted network supported.
  3. If it is no,

Then do this

  1. Go to device manager.
  2. Click on view and press on "show hidden devices".
  3. Go down to the list of devices and expand the node "Network Devices" .
  4. Find an adapter with the name "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter" and then right click on it.
  5. Select Enable
  6. This will enable the AdHoc created connection, it should appear in the network connections in Network and Sharing Center, if the AdHoc network connection is not appear then open elevated command prompt and apply this command "netsh wlan stop hostednetwork" without quotations.
  7. After this, the connection should appear. Then try starting your connection. It should work fine.

How to check for an empty struct?

As an alternative to the other answers, it's possible to do this with a syntax similar to the way you originally intended if you do it via a case statement rather than an if:

session := Session{}
switch {
case Session{} == session:
    fmt.Println("zero")
default:
    fmt.Println("not zero")
}

com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure

i solved this problem in a easy way, that worked for me. i had the seme problem "com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.CommunicationsException: Communications link failure". In my db.properties file i had this : url:jdbc:mysql://localhost:90/myDB, only removed the port url , resulting in this manner url:jdbc:mysql://localhost/myDB and that worked for me.

to_string is not a member of std, says g++ (mingw)

For anyone wondering why this happens on Android, it's probably because you're using a wrong c++ standard library. Try changing the c++ library in your build.gradle from gnustl_static to c++_static and the c++ standard in your CMakeLists.txt from -std=gnu++11 to -std=c++11

Get all mysql selected rows into an array

I would suggest the use of MySQLi or MySQL PDO for performance and security purposes, but to answer the question:

while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){
     $json[] = $row;
}

echo json_encode($json);

If you switched to MySQLi you could do:

$query = "SELECT * FROM table";
$result = mysqli_query($db, $query);

$json = mysqli_fetch_all ($result, MYSQLI_ASSOC);
echo json_encode($json );

Using "label for" on radio buttons

Either structure is valid and accessible, but the for attribute should be equal to the id of the input element:

<input type="radio" ... id="r1" /><label for="r1">button text</label>

or

<label for="r1"><input type="radio" ... id="r1" />button text</label>

The for attribute is optional in the second version (label containing input), but IIRC there were some older browsers that didn't make the label text clickable unless you included it. The first version (label after input) is easier to style with CSS using the adjacent sibling selector +:

input[type="radio"]:checked+label {font-weight:bold;}

Can Json.NET serialize / deserialize to / from a stream?

UPDATE: This no longer works in the current version, see below for correct answer (no need to vote down, this is correct on older versions).

Use the JsonTextReader class with a StreamReader or use the JsonSerializer overload that takes a StreamReader directly:

var serializer = new JsonSerializer();
serializer.Deserialize(streamReader);

Initializing multiple variables to the same value in Java

Invoke(Delegate)

A control or window object in Windows Forms is just a wrapper around a Win32 window identified by a handle (sometimes called HWND). Most things you do with the control will eventually result in a Win32 API call that uses this handle. The handle is owned by the thread that created it (typically the main thread), and shouldn't be manipulated by another thread. If for some reason you need to do something with the control from another thread, you can use Invoke to ask the main thread to do it on your behalf.

For instance, if you want to change the text of a label from a worker thread, you can do something like this:

theLabel.Invoke(new Action(() => theLabel.Text = "hello world from worker thread!"));

How to export collection to CSV in MongoDB?

If you want, you can export all collections to csv without specifying --fields (will export all fields).

From http://drzon.net/export-mongodb-collections-to-csv-without-specifying-fields/ run this bash script

OIFS=$IFS;
IFS=",";

# fill in your details here
dbname=DBNAME
user=USERNAME
pass=PASSWORD
host=HOSTNAME:PORT

# first get all collections in the database
collections=`mongo "$host/$dbname" -u $user -p $pass --eval "rs.slaveOk();db.getCollectionNames();"`;
collections=`mongo $dbname --eval "rs.slaveOk();db.getCollectionNames();"`;
collectionArray=($collections);

# for each collection
for ((i=0; i<${#collectionArray[@]}; ++i));
do
    echo 'exporting collection' ${collectionArray[$i]}
    # get comma separated list of keys. do this by peeking into the first document in the collection and get his set of keys
    keys=`mongo "$host/$dbname" -u $user -p $pass --eval "rs.slaveOk();var keys = []; for(var key in db.${collectionArray[$i]}.find().sort({_id: -1}).limit(1)[0]) { keys.push(key); }; keys;" --quiet`;
    # now use mongoexport with the set of keys to export the collection to csv
    mongoexport --host $host -u $user -p $pass -d $dbname -c ${collectionArray[$i]} --fields "$keys" --csv --out $dbname.${collectionArray[$i]}.csv;
done

How do I make my ArrayList Thread-Safe? Another approach to problem in Java?

Whenever you want to use ant thread safe version of ant collection object,take help of java.util.concurrent.* package. It has almost all concurrent version of unsynchronized collection objects. eg: for ArrayList, you have java.util.concurrent.CopyOnWriteArrayList

You can do Collections.synchronizedCollection(any collection object),but remember this classical synchr. technique is expensive and comes with performence overhead. java.util.concurrent.* package is less expensive and manage the performance in better way by using mechanisms like

copy-on-write,compare-and-swap,Lock,snapshot iterators,etc.

So,Prefer something from java.util.concurrent.* package

get the titles of all open windows

Here’s some code you can use to get a list of all the open windows. Actually, you get a dictionary where each item is a KeyValuePair where the key is the handle (hWnd) of the window and the value is its title. It also finds pop-up windows, such as those created by MessageBox.Show.

using System.Runtime.InteropServices;
using HWND = System.IntPtr;

/// <summary>Contains functionality to get all the open windows.</summary>
public static class OpenWindowGetter
{
  /// <summary>Returns a dictionary that contains the handle and title of all the open windows.</summary>
  /// <returns>A dictionary that contains the handle and title of all the open windows.</returns>
  public static IDictionary<HWND, string> GetOpenWindows()
  {
    HWND shellWindow = GetShellWindow();
    Dictionary<HWND, string> windows = new Dictionary<HWND, string>();

    EnumWindows(delegate(HWND hWnd, int lParam)
    {
      if (hWnd == shellWindow) return true;
      if (!IsWindowVisible(hWnd)) return true;

      int length = GetWindowTextLength(hWnd);
      if (length == 0) return true;

      StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder(length);
      GetWindowText(hWnd, builder, length + 1);

      windows[hWnd] = builder.ToString();
      return true;

    }, 0);

    return windows;
  }

  private delegate bool EnumWindowsProc(HWND hWnd, int lParam);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern bool EnumWindows(EnumWindowsProc enumFunc, int lParam);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern int GetWindowText(HWND hWnd, StringBuilder lpString, int nMaxCount);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern int GetWindowTextLength(HWND hWnd);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern bool IsWindowVisible(HWND hWnd);

  [DllImport("USER32.DLL")]
  private static extern IntPtr GetShellWindow();
}

And here’s some code that uses it:

foreach(KeyValuePair<IntPtr, string> window in OpenWindowGetter.GetOpenWindows())
{
  IntPtr handle = window.Key;
  string title = window.Value;

  Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", handle, title);
}

Dealing with "Xerces hell" in Java/Maven?

My friend that's very simple, here an example:

How to solve the “failed to lazily initialize a collection of role” Hibernate exception

your list is lazy loading, so the list wasn't loaded. call to get on the list is not enough. use in Hibernate.initialize in order to init the list. If dosnt work run on the list element and call Hibernate.initialize for each . this need to be before you return from the transaction scope. look at this post.
search for -

Node n = // .. get the node
Hibernate.initialize(n); // initializes 'parent' similar to getParent.
Hibernate.initialize(n.getChildren()); // pass the lazy collection into the session

What's the safest way to iterate through the keys of a Perl hash?

The place where each can cause you problems is that it's a true, non-scoped iterator. By way of example:

while ( my ($key,$val) = each %a_hash ) {
    print "$key => $val\n";
    last if $val; #exits loop when $val is true
}

# but "each" hasn't reset!!
while ( my ($key,$val) = each %a_hash ) {
    # continues where the last loop left off
    print "$key => $val\n";
}

If you need to be sure that each gets all the keys and values, you need to make sure you use keys or values first (as that resets the iterator). See the documentation for each.

Spring Data JPA - "No Property Found for Type" Exception

If you are using ENUM like MessageStatus, you may need a converter. Just add this class:

import javax.persistence.AttributeConverter;
import javax.persistence.Converter;

/**
 * Convert ENUM type in JPA.
 */
@Converter(autoApply = true)
public class MessageStatusConverter implements AttributeConverter<MessageStatus, Integer> {
  @Override
  public Integer convertToDatabaseColumn(MessageStatus messageStatus) {
    return messageStatus.getValue();
  }

  @Override
  public MessageStatus convertToEntityAttribute(Integer i) {
    return MessageStatus.valueOf(i);
  }

How to rename HTML "browse" button of an input type=file?

How to execute a shell script in PHP?

If you are having a small script that you need to run (I simply needed to copy a file), I found it much easier to call the commands on the PHP script by calling

exec("sudo cp /tmp/testfile1 /var/www/html/testfile2");

and enabling such transaction by editing (or rather adding) a permitting line to the sudoers by first calling sudo visudo and adding the following line to the very end of it

www-data ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:/bin/cp /tmp/testfile1 /var/www/html/testfile2

All I wanted to do was to copy a file and I have been having problems with doing so because of the root password problem, and as you mentioned I did NOT want to expose the system to have no password for all root transactions.

JavaScript getElementByID() not working

At the point you are calling your function, the rest of the page has not rendered and so the element is not in existence at that point. Try calling your function on window.onload maybe. Something like this:

    <script type="text/javascript">
        window.onload = function(){
           var refButton = document.getElementById("btnButton");

            refButton.onclick = function() {
                alert('I am clicked!');
            }
        };
    </script>
</head>
<body>
    <form id="form1">
    <div>
        <input id="btnButton" type="button" value="Click me"/>
    </div>
    </form>
</body>
</html>

Is it possible to decrypt MD5 hashes?

In theory it is not possible to decrypt a hash value but you have some dirty techniques for getting the original plain text back.

  1. Bruteforcing: All computer security algorithm suffer bruteforcing. Based on this idea today's GPU employ the idea of parallel programming using which it can get back the plain text by massively bruteforcing it using any graphics processor. This tool hashcat does this job. Last time I checked the cuda version of it, I was able to bruteforce a 7 letter long character within six minutes.
  2. Internet search: Just copy and paste the hash on Google and see If you can find the corresponding plaintext there. This is not a solution when you are pentesting something but it is definitely worth a try. Some websites maintain the hash for almost all the words in the dictionary.

        s.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_REUSEADDR, 1)
        return s.getsockname()[1]

return in for loop or outside loop

Since there is no issue with GC. I prefer this.

for(int i=0; i<array.length; ++i){
    if(array[i] == valueToFind)
        return true;
}

Javascript ES6 export const vs export let

I think that once you've imported it, the behaviour is the same (in the place your variable will be used outside source file).

The only difference would be if you try to reassign it before the end of this very file.

Swift performSelector:withObject:afterDelay: is unavailable

Swift is statically typed so the performSelector: methods are to fall by the wayside.

Instead, use GCD to dispatch a suitable block to the relevant queue — in this case it'll presumably be the main queue since it looks like you're doing UIKit work.

EDIT: the relevant performSelector: is also notably missing from the Swift version of the NSRunLoop documentation ("1 Objective-C symbol hidden") so you can't jump straight in with that. With that and its absence from the Swiftified NSObject I'd argue it's pretty clear what Apple is thinking here.

How to add Android Support Repository to Android Studio?

Found a solution.

1) Go to where your SDK is located that android studio/eclipse is using. If you are using Android studio, go to extras\android\m2repository\com\android\support\. If you are using eclipse, go to \extras\android\support\

2) See what folders you have, for me I had gridlayout-v7, support-v4 and support-v13.

3) click into support-v4 and see what number the following folder is, mine was named 13.0

Since you are using "com.android.support:support-v4:18.0.+", change this to reflect what version you have, for example I have support-v4 so first part v4 stays the same. Since the next path is 13.0, change your 18.0 to:

"com.android.support:support-v4:13.0.+"

This worked for me, hope it helps!

Update:

I noticed I had android studio set up with the wrong SDK which is why originally had difficulty updating! The path should be C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\extras\

Also note, if your SDK is up to date, the code will be:

"com.android.support:support-v4:19.0.+"

Order by in Inner Join

SQL doesn't return any ordering by default because it's faster this way. It doesn't have to go through your data first and then decide what to do.

You need to add an order by clause, and probably order by which ever ID you expect. (There's a duplicate of names, thus I'd assume you want One.ID)

select * From one
inner join two
ON one.one_name = two.one_name
ORDER BY one.ID

How do I get a python program to do nothing?

You could use a pass statement:

if condition:
    pass

Python 2.x documentation

Python 3.x documentation

However I doubt you want to do this, unless you just need to put something in as a placeholder until you come back and write the actual code for the if statement.

If you have something like this:

if condition: # condition in your case being `num2 == num5`
    pass
else:
    do_something()

You can in general change it to this:

if not condition:
    do_something()

But in this specific case you could (and should) do this:

if num2 != num5:        # != is the not-equal-to operator
    do_something()

How to fix "namespace x already contains a definition for x" error? Happened after converting to VS2010

I came across a similar problem. After generating my database from an edmx file, I clicked 'save all' and 'build' and all the Types/Model classes that I created showed up in the error box. I researched why this happened and like your replies suggest, I thought it was something that was auto-generated.

However, solutions like deleting the auto-generated classes and re-generating them didn't work for me.

I eventually ran out of patience and decided I'd fix it another way. Since my script was saved, I just deleted the edmx file (and its reference in the web.config) and went back and created another one using "model from database" and didn't touch it after that.

Needless to say, I was pretty mad that it turned out like that.

final Month monthEnum = Month.of(monthNr);
int daysInMonth;
if (monthNr == 2) {
    int year = getYear();
    final boolean leapYear = IsoChronology.INSTANCE.isLeapYear(year);
    daysInMonth = monthEnum.length(leapYear);
} else {
    daysInMonth = monthEnum.maxLength();
}

If the month isn't February (92% of the cases), it depends on the month only and it is more efficient not to involve the year. This way, you don't have to call logic to know whether it is a leap year and you don't need to get the year in 92% of the cases. And it is still clean and very readable code.

Laravel migration default value

Put the default value in single quote and it will work as intended. An example of migration:

$table->increments('id');
            $table->string('name');
            $table->string('url');
            $table->string('country');
            $table->tinyInteger('status')->default('1');
            $table->timestamps();

EDIT : in your case ->default('100.0');

How do I open phone settings when a button is clicked?

I have seen this line of code

UIApplication.sharedApplication() .openURL(NSURL(string:"prefs:root=General")!)

is not working, it didn't work for me in ios10/ Xcode 8, just a small code difference, please replace this with

UIApplication.sharedApplication().openURL(NSURL(string:"App-Prefs:root=General")!)

Swift3

UIApplication.shared.openURL(URL(string:"prefs:root=General")!)

Replace with

UIApplication.shared.openURL(URL(string:"App-Prefs:root=General")!)

Hope it helps. Cheers.

Importing text file into excel sheet

There are many ways you can import Text file to the current sheet. Here are three (including the method that you are using above)

  1. Using a QueryTable
  2. Open the text file in memory and then write to the current sheet and finally applying Text To Columns if required.
  3. If you want to use the method that you are currently using then after you open the text file in a new workbook, simply copy it over to the current sheet using Cells.Copy

Using a QueryTable

Here is a simple macro that I recorded. Please amend it to suit your needs.

Sub Sample()
    With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
        "TEXT;C:\Sample.txt", Destination:=Range("$A$1") _
        )
        .Name = "Sample"
        .FieldNames = True
        .RowNumbers = False
        .FillAdjacentFormulas = False
        .PreserveFormatting = True
        .RefreshOnFileOpen = False
        .RefreshStyle = xlInsertDeleteCells
        .SavePassword = False
        .SaveData = True
        .AdjustColumnWidth = True
        .RefreshPeriod = 0
        .TextFilePromptOnRefresh = False
        .TextFilePlatform = 437
        .TextFileStartRow = 1
        .TextFileParseType = xlDelimited
        .TextFileTextQualifier = xlTextQualifierDoubleQuote
        .TextFileConsecutiveDelimiter = False
        .TextFileTabDelimiter = True
        .TextFileSemicolonDelimiter = False
        .TextFileCommaDelimiter = True
        .TextFileSpaceDelimiter = False
        .TextFileColumnDataTypes = Array(1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1)
        .TextFileTrailingMinusNumbers = True
        .Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False
    End With
End Sub

Open the text file in memory

Sub Sample()
    Dim MyData As String, strData() As String

    Open "C:\Sample.txt" For Binary As #1
    MyData = Space$(LOF(1))
    Get #1, , MyData
    Close #1
    strData() = Split(MyData, vbCrLf)
End Sub

Once you have the data in the array you can export it to the current sheet.

Using the method that you are already using

Sub Sample()
    Dim wbI As Workbook, wbO As Workbook
    Dim wsI As Worksheet

    Set wbI = ThisWorkbook
    Set wsI = wbI.Sheets("Sheet1") '<~~ Sheet where you want to import

    Set wbO = Workbooks.Open("C:\Sample.txt")

    wbO.Sheets(1).Cells.Copy wsI.Cells

    wbO.Close SaveChanges:=False
End Sub

FOLLOWUP

You can use the Application.GetOpenFilename to choose the relevant file. For example...

Sub Sample()
    Dim Ret

    Ret = Application.GetOpenFilename("Prn Files (*.prn), *.prn")

    If Ret <> False Then
        With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
        "TEXT;" & Ret, Destination:=Range("$A$1"))

            '~~> Rest of the code

        End With
    End If
End Sub

PHP: How can I determine if a variable has a value that is between two distinct constant values?

A random value?

If you want a random value, try

<?php
$value = mt_rand($min, $max);

mt_rand() will run a bit more random if you are using many random numbers in a row, or if you might ever execute the script more than once a second. In general, you should use mt_rand() over rand() if there is any doubt.

Convert from lowercase to uppercase all values in all character variables in dataframe

Starting with the following sample data :

df <- data.frame(v1=letters[1:5],v2=1:5,v3=letters[10:14],stringsAsFactors=FALSE)

  v1 v2 v3
1  a  1  j
2  b  2  k
3  c  3  l
4  d  4  m
5  e  5  n

You can use :

data.frame(lapply(df, function(v) {
  if (is.character(v)) return(toupper(v))
  else return(v)
}))

Which gives :

  v1 v2 v3
1  A  1  J
2  B  2  K
3  C  3  L
4  D  4  M
5  E  5  N

How do I delete specific characters from a particular String in Java?

Use:

String str = "whatever";
str = str.replaceAll("[,.]", "");

replaceAll takes a regular expression. This:

[,.]

...looks for each comma and/or period.

Is there a 'foreach' function in Python 3?

map can be used for the situation mentioned in the question.

E.g.

map(len, ['abcd','abc', 'a']) # 4 3 1

For functions that take multiple arguments, more arguments can be given to map:

map(pow, [2, 3], [4,2]) # 16 9

It returns a list in python 2.x and an iterator in python 3

In case your function takes multiple arguments and the arguments are already in the form of tuples (or any iterable since python 2.6) you can use itertools.starmap. (which has a very similar syntax to what you were looking for). It returns an iterator.

E.g.

for num in starmap(pow, [(2,3), (3,2)]):
    print(num)

gives us 8 and 9

Java Enum return Int

If you are concatenating the enum with a string you can override toString method to return the int:

public String toString() {
    return value + "";
}

Then you could simply use:

String something = "foo" + DownloadType.AUDIO;

and the toString() method will be invoked.

Note that using toString() programmatically is generally considered poor practice - it is intended for human eyes only, however this is the only way to achieve what you're asking.

Environment variables in Jenkins

The environment variables displayed in Jenkins (Manage Jenkins -> System information) are inherited from the system (i.e. inherited environment variables)

If you run env command in a shell you should see the same environment variables as Jenkins shows.

These variables are either set by the shell/system or by you in ~/.bashrc, ~/.bash_profile.

There are also environment variables set by Jenkins when a job executes, but these are not displayed in the System Information.

Are there any SHA-256 javascript implementations that are generally considered trustworthy?

OUTDATED: Many modern browsers now have first-class support for crypto operations. See Vitaly Zdanevich's answer below.

The Stanford JS Crypto Library contains an implementation of SHA-256. While crypto in JS isn't really as well-vetted an endeavor as other implementation platforms, this one is at least partially developed by, and to a certain extent sponsored by, Dan Boneh, who is a well-established and trusted name in cryptography, and means that the project has some oversight by someone who actually knows what he's doing. The project is also supported by the NSF.

It's worth pointing out, however...
... that if you hash the password client-side before submitting it, then the hash is the password, and the original password becomes irrelevant. An attacker needs only to intercept the hash in order to impersonate the user, and if that hash is stored unmodified on the server, then the server is storing the true password (the hash) in plain-text.

So your security is now worse because you decided add your own improvements to what was previously a trusted scheme.

Python: printing a file to stdout

f = open('file.txt', 'r')
print f.read()
f.close()

From http://docs.python.org/tutorial/inputoutput.html

To read a file’s contents, call f.read(size), which reads some quantity of data and returns it as a string. size is an optional numeric argument. When size is omitted or negative, the entire contents of the file will be read and returned; it’s your problem if the file is twice as large as your machine’s memory. Otherwise, at most size bytes are read and returned. If the end of the file has been reached, f.read() will return an empty string ("").

Collections.emptyList() vs. new instance

The given answers stress the fact that emptyList() returns an immutable List but do not give alternatives. The Constructor ArrayList(int initialCapacity) special cases 0 so returning new ArrayList<>(0) instead of new ArrayList<>() might also be a viable solution:

/**
 * Shared empty array instance used for empty instances.
 */
private static final Object[] EMPTY_ELEMENTDATA = {};

[...]

/**
 * Constructs an empty list with the specified initial capacity.
 *
 * @param initialCapacity the initial capacity of the list
 * @throws IllegalArgumentException if the specified initial capacity
 *         is negative
 */
public ArrayList(int initialCapacity) {
    if (initialCapacity > 0) {
        this.elementData = new Object[initialCapacity];
    } else if (initialCapacity == 0) {
        this.elementData = EMPTY_ELEMENTDATA;
    } else {
        throw new IllegalArgumentException("Illegal Capacity: "+
                                           initialCapacity);
    }
}

(sources from Java 1.8.0_72)

Executing another application from Java

If you don't care about the return value you could just use Runtime.getRuntime().exec("path.to.your.batch.file");

Swift: Display HTML data in a label or textView

I had problems to change attributes of text after that, and I could see others asking why...

So best answer is to use extension with NSMutableAttributedString instead:

extension String {

 var htmlToAttributedString: NSMutableAttributedString? {
    guard let data = data(using: .utf8) else { return nil }
    do {
        return try NSMutableAttributedString(data: data,
                                      options: [.documentType: NSMutableAttributedString.DocumentType.html,
                                                .characterEncoding: String.Encoding.utf8.rawValue],
                                      documentAttributes: nil)
    } catch let error as NSError {
        print(error.localizedDescription)
        return  nil
    }
 }

}

And then you can use it this way:

if let labelTextFormatted = text.htmlToAttributedString {
                let textAttributes = [
                    NSAttributedStringKey.foregroundColor: UIColor.white,
                    NSAttributedStringKey.font: UIFont.boldSystemFont(ofSize: 13)
                    ] as [NSAttributedStringKey: Any]
                labelTextFormatted.addAttributes(textAttributes, range: NSRange(location: 0, length: labelTextFormatted.length))
                self.contentText.attributedText = labelTextFormatted
            }

What's the difference between isset() and array_key_exists()?

Complementing (as an algebraic curiosity) the @deceze answer with the @ operator, and indicating cases where is "better" to use @ ... Not really better if you need (no log and) micro-performance optimization:

  • array_key_exists: is true if a key exists in an array;
  • isset: is true if the key/variable exists and is not null [faster than array_key_exists];
  • @$array['key']: is true if the key/variable exists and is not (null or '' or 0); [so much slower?]
$a = array('k1' => 'HELLO', 'k2' => null, 'k3' => '', 'k4' => 0);

print isset($a['k1'])? "OK $a[k1].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print array_key_exists('k1', $a)? "OK $a[k1].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print @$a['k1']? "OK $a[k1].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
// outputs OK HELLO. OK HELLO. OK HELLO.

print isset($a['k2'])? "OK $a[k2].": 'NO VALUE.'; // NO
print array_key_exists('k2', $a)? "OK $a[k2].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print @$a['k2']? "OK $a[k2].": 'NO VALUE.'; // NO
// outputs NO VALUE. OK . NO VALUE.

print isset($a['k3'])? "OK $a[k3].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print array_key_exists('k3', $a)? "OK $a[k3].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print @$a['k3']? "OK $a[k3].": 'NO VALUE.'; // NO
// outputs OK . OK . NO VALUE.

print isset($a['k4'])? "OK $a[k4].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print array_key_exists('k4', $a)? "OK $a[k4].": 'NO VALUE.'; // OK
print @$a['k4']? "OK $a[k4].": 'NO VALUE.'; // NO
// outputs OK 0. OK 0. NO VALUE

How to make an Android device vibrate? with different frequency?

I struggled understanding how to do this on my first implementation - make sure you have the following:

1) Your device supports vibration (my Samsung tablet did not work so I kept re-checking the code - the original code worked perfectly on my CM Touchpad

2) You have declared above the application level in your AndroidManifest.xml file to give the code permission to run.

3) Have imported both of the following in to your MainActivity.java with the other imports: import android.content.Context; import android.os.Vibrator;

4) Call your vibration (discussed extensively in this thread already) - I did it in a separate function and call this in the code at other points - depending on what you want to use to call the vibration you may need an image (Android: long click on a button -> perform actions) or button listener, or a clickable object as defined in XML (Clickable image - android):

 public void vibrate(int duration)
 {
    Vibrator vibs = (Vibrator) getSystemService(Context.VIBRATOR_SERVICE);
    vibs.vibrate(duration);
 }

How do you set the EditText keyboard to only consist of numbers on Android?

After several tries, I got it! I'm setting the keyboard values programmatically like this:

myEditText.setInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_NUMBER | InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_VARIATION_PASSWORD);

Or if you want you can edit the XML like so:

android: inputType = "numberPassword"

Both configs will display password bullets, so we need to create a custom ClickableSpan class:

private class NumericKeyBoardTransformationMethod extends PasswordTransformationMethod {
    @Override
    public CharSequence getTransformation(CharSequence source, View view) {
        return source;
    }
}

Finally we need to implement it on the EditText in order to display the characters typed.

myEditText.setTransformationMethod(new NumericKeyBoardTransformationMethod());

This is how my keyboard looks like now:

How to access parent Iframe from JavaScript

phpinfo() - is there an easy way for seeing it?

From your command line you can run..

php -i

I know it's not the browser window, but you can't see the phpinfo(); contents without making the function call. Obviously, the best approach would be to have a phpinfo script in the root of your web server directory, that way you have access to it at all times via http://localhost/info.php or something similar (NOTE: don't do this in a production environment or somewhere that is publicly accessible)

EDIT: As mentioned by binaryLV, its quite common to have two versions of a php.ini per installation. One for the command line interface (CLI) and the other for the web server interface. If you want to see phpinfo output for your web server make sure you specify the ini file path, for example...

php -c /etc/php/apache2/php.ini -i

PHP $_POST not working?

jquery fill dropdown with json data

In most of the companies they required a common functionality for multiple dropdownlist for all the pages. Just call the functions or pass your (DropDownID,JsonData,KeyValue,textValue)

    <script>

        $(document).ready(function(){

            GetData('DLState',data,'stateid','statename');
        });

        var data = [{"stateid" : "1","statename" : "Mumbai"},
                    {"stateid" : "2","statename" : "Panjab"},
                    {"stateid" : "3","statename" : "Pune"},
                     {"stateid" : "4","statename" : "Nagpur"},
                     {"stateid" : "5","statename" : "kanpur"}];

        var Did=document.getElementById("DLState");

        function GetData(Did,data,valkey,textkey){
          var str= "";
          for (var i = 0; i <data.length ; i++){

            console.log(data);

            str+= "<option value='" + data[i][valkey] + "'>" + data[i][textkey] + "</option>";

          }
          $("#"+Did).append(str);

How to get item count from DynamoDB?

If you happen to reach here, and you are working with C#, here is the code:

var cancellationToken = new CancellationToken();

var request = new ScanRequest("TableName") {Select = Select.COUNT};

var result = context.Client.ScanAsync(request, cancellationToken).Result;

totalCount = result.Count;

WPF Image Dynamically changing Image source during runtime

I can think of two things:

First, try loading the image with:

string strUri2 = String.Format(@"pack://application:,,,/MyAseemby;component/resources/main titles/{0}", CurrenSelection.TitleImage);
imgTitle.Source = new BitmapImage(new Uri(strUri2));

Maybe the problem is with WinForm's image resizing, if the image is stretched set Stretch on the image control to "Uniform" or "UnfirofmToFill".

Second option is that maybe the image is not aligned to the pixel grid, you can read about it on my blog at http://www.nbdtech.com/blog/archive/2008/11/20/blurred-images-in-wpf.aspx

How to remove focus from single editText

I've tryed much to clear focus of an edit text. clearfocus() and focusable and other things never worked for me. So I came up with the idea of letting a fake edittext gain focus:

<LinearLayout
    ...
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent">

    <LinearLayout
        ...
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent">

    <!--here comes your stuff-->

    </LinearLayout>

    <EditText
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:id="@+id/fake"
        android:textSize="1sp"/>

</LinearLayout>

then in your java code:

View view = Activity.this.getCurrentFocus();
                    if (view != null) {
                        InputMethodManager imm = (InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
                        imm.hideSoftInputFromWindow(view.getWindowToken(), 0);
                        fake.requestFocus();
                    }

it will hide the keyboard and remove the focus of any edittext that has it. and also as you see the fake edittext is out of screen and can't be seen

Android eclipse DDMS - Can't access data/data/ on phone to pull files

Much simpler than messing around with permissions in the android FS (which always feels like
a hack for me - because i believe there must be a kind of integrated way) is just to:

Allow ADB root access and Restart the deamon with root permissions.

  1. First be sure that ADB can have root access on your device (or emulator):
    (Settings -> Developer Options -> Root-Access for ADB or Apps & ADB.
  2. Restart the ADB-Service with root-permissions:
    Open a command prompt and type: adb.exe root
  3. Restart ADM (Android Device Manager):
    Enjoy browsing all files
  4. To negate this process:
    Type adb.exe unroot in your command prompt.

How do you send a Firebase Notification to all devices via CURL?

Firebase Notifications doesn't have an API to send messages. Luckily it is built on top of Firebase Cloud Messaging, which has precisely such an API.

With Firebase Notifications and Cloud Messaging, you can send so-called downstream messages to devices in three ways:

  1. to specific devices, if you know their device IDs
  2. to groups of devices, if you know the registration IDs of the groups
  3. to topics, which are just keys that devices can subscribe to

You'll note that there is no way to send to all devices explicitly. You can build such functionality with each of these though, for example: by subscribing the app to a topic when it starts (e.g. /topics/all) or by keeping a list of all device IDs, and then sending the message to all of those.

For sending to a topic you have a syntax error in your command. Topics are identified by starting with /topics/. Since you don't have that in your code, the server interprets allDevices as a device id. Since it is an invalid format for a device registration token, it raises an error.

From the documentation on sending messages to topics:

https://fcm.googleapis.com/fcm/send
Content-Type:application/json
Authorization:key=AIzaSyZ-1u...0GBYzPu7Udno5aA

{
  "to": "/topics/foo-bar",
  "data": {
    "message": "This is a Firebase Cloud Messaging Topic Message!",
   }
}

(HTML) Download a PDF file instead of opening them in browser when clicked

If you are using HTML5 (and i guess now a days everyone uses that), there is an attribute called download.

ex. <a href="somepathto.pdf" download="filename">

here filename is optional, but if provided, it will take this name for downloaded file.

Remove HTML tags from string including &nbsp in C#

I took @Ravi Thapliyal's code and made a method: It is simple and might not clean everything, but so far it is doing what I need it to do.

public static string ScrubHtml(string value) {
    var step1 = Regex.Replace(value, @"<[^>]+>|&nbsp;", "").Trim();
    var step2 = Regex.Replace(step1, @"\s{2,}", " ");
    return step2;
}

Unicode character in PHP string

I wonder why no one has mentioned this yet, but you can do an almost equivalent version using escape sequences in double quoted strings:

\x[0-9A-Fa-f]{1,2}

The sequence of characters matching the regular expression is a character in hexadecimal notation.

ASCII example:

<?php
    echo("\x48\x65\x6C\x6C\x6F\x20\x57\x6F\x72\x6C\x64\x21");
?>

Hello World!

So for your case, all you need to do is $str = "\x30\xA2";. But these are bytes, not characters. The byte representation of the Unicode codepoint coincides with UTF-16 big endian, so we could print it out directly as such:

<?php
    header('content-type:text/html;charset=utf-16be');
    echo("\x30\xA2");
?>

?

If you are using a different encoding, you'll need alter the bytes accordingly (mostly done with a library, though possible by hand too).

UTF-16 little endian example:

<?php
    header('content-type:text/html;charset=utf-16le');
    echo("\xA2\x30");
?>

?

UTF-8 example:

<?php
    header('content-type:text/html;charset=utf-8');
    echo("\xE3\x82\xA2");
?>

?

There is also the pack function, but you can expect it to be slow.

How to cd into a directory with space in the name?

As an alternative to using quotes, for a directory you want to go to often, you could use the cdable_vars shell option:

shopt -s cdable_vars
docs='/cygdrive/c/Users/my dir/Documents'

Now, to change into that directory from anywhere, you can use

cd docs

and the shell will indicate which directory it changed to:

$ cd docs
/cygdrive/c/Users/my dir/Documents

Making a flex item float right

You don't need floats. In fact, they're useless because floats are ignored in flexbox.

You also don't need CSS positioning.

There are several flex methods available. auto margins have been mentioned in another answer.

Here are two other options:

  • Use justify-content: space-between and the order property.
  • Use justify-content: space-between and reverse the order of the divs.

How to Logout of an Application Where I Used OAuth2 To Login With Google?

It looks like Google recently broke something with their revoke stuff (it's started returning 400 errors for us). You now have to call

auth2.disconnect();

In our case we then have to wait a couple of seconds for the disconnect call to complete otherwise the sign-in code will re-authorise before it's done. It'd be good if google returned a promise from the disconnect method.

How can I count the rows with data in an Excel sheet?

With formulas, what you can do is:

  • in a new column (say col D - cell D2), add =COUNTA(A2:C2)
  • drag this formula till the end of your data (say cell D4 in our example)
  • add a last formula to sum it up (e.g in cell D5): =SUM(D2:D4)

Is there any quick way to get the last two characters in a string?

In my case, I wanted the opposite. I wanted to strip off the last 2 characters in my string. This was pretty simple:

String myString = someString.substring(0, someString.length() - 2);

Android Design Support Library expandable Floating Action Button(FAB) menu

Got a better approach to implement the animating FAB menu without using any library or to write huge xml code for animations. hope this will help in future for someone who needs a simple way to implement this.

Just using animate().translationY() function, you can animate any view up or down just I did in my below code, check complete code in github. In case you are looking for the same code in kotlin, you can checkout the kotlin code repo Animating FAB Menu.

first define all your FAB at same place so they overlap each other, remember on top the FAB should be that you want to click and to show other. eg:

    <android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
    android:id="@+id/fab3"
    android:layout_width="@dimen/standard_45"
    android:layout_height="@dimen/standard_45"
    android:layout_gravity="bottom|end"
    android:layout_margin="@dimen/standard_21"
    app:srcCompat="@android:drawable/ic_btn_speak_now" />

<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
    android:id="@+id/fab2"
    android:layout_width="@dimen/standard_45"
    android:layout_height="@dimen/standard_45"
    android:layout_gravity="bottom|end"
    android:layout_margin="@dimen/standard_21"
    app:srcCompat="@android:drawable/ic_menu_camera" />

<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
    android:id="@+id/fab1"
    android:layout_width="@dimen/standard_45"
    android:layout_height="@dimen/standard_45"
    android:layout_gravity="bottom|end"
    android:layout_margin="@dimen/standard_21"
    app:srcCompat="@android:drawable/ic_dialog_map" />

<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
    android:id="@+id/fab"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_gravity="bottom|end"
    android:layout_margin="@dimen/fab_margin"
    app:srcCompat="@android:drawable/ic_dialog_email" />

Now in your java class just define all your FAB and perform the click like shown below:

 FloatingActionButton fab = (FloatingActionButton) findViewById(R.id.fab);
    fab1 = (FloatingActionButton) findViewById(R.id.fab1);
    fab2 = (FloatingActionButton) findViewById(R.id.fab2);
    fab3 = (FloatingActionButton) findViewById(R.id.fab3);
    fab.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        @Override
        public void onClick(View view) {
            if(!isFABOpen){
                showFABMenu();
            }else{
                closeFABMenu();
            }
        }
    });

Use the animation().translationY() to animate your FAB,I prefer you to use the attribute of this method in DP since only using an int will effect the display compatibility with higher resolution or lower resolution. as shown below:

 private void showFABMenu(){
    isFABOpen=true;
    fab1.animate().translationY(-getResources().getDimension(R.dimen.standard_55));
    fab2.animate().translationY(-getResources().getDimension(R.dimen.standard_105));
    fab3.animate().translationY(-getResources().getDimension(R.dimen.standard_155));
}

private void closeFABMenu(){
    isFABOpen=false;
    fab1.animate().translationY(0);
    fab2.animate().translationY(0);
    fab3.animate().translationY(0);
}

Now define the above mentioned dimension inside res->values->dimens.xml as shown below:

    <dimen name="standard_55">55dp</dimen>
<dimen name="standard_105">105dp</dimen>
<dimen name="standard_155">155dp</dimen>

That's all hope this solution will help the people in future, who are searching for simple solution.

EDITED

If you want to add label over the FAB then simply take a horizontal LinearLayout and put the FAB with textview as label, and animate the layouts if find any issue doing this, you can check my sample code in github, I have handelled all backward compatibility issues in that sample code. check my sample code for FABMenu in Github

to close the FAB on Backpress, override onBackPress() as showen below:

    @Override
public void onBackPressed() {
    if(!isFABOpen){
        this.super.onBackPressed();
    }else{
        closeFABMenu();
    }
}

The Screenshot have the title as well with the FAB,because I take it from my sample app present ingithub

How to detect DataGridView CheckBox event change?

REST API - Bulk Create or Update in single request

I think that you could use a POST or PATCH method to handle this since they typically design for this.

  • Using a POST method is typically used to add an element when used on list resource but you can also support several actions for this method. See this answer: How to Update a REST Resource Collection. You can also support different representation formats for the input (if they correspond to an array or a single elements).

    In the case, it's not necessary to define your format to describe the update.

  • Using a PATCH method is also suitable since corresponding requests correspond to a partial update. According to RFC5789 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5789):

    Several applications extending the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) require a feature to do partial resource modification. The existing HTTP PUT method only allows a complete replacement of a document. This proposal adds a new HTTP method, PATCH, to modify an existing HTTP resource.

    In the case, you have to define your format to describe the partial update.

I think that in this case, POST and PATCH are quite similar since you don't really need to describe the operation to do for each element. I would say that it depends on the format of the representation to send.

The case of PUT is a bit less clear. In fact, when using a method PUT, you should provide the whole list. As a matter of fact, the provided representation in the request will be in replacement of the list resource one.

You can have two options regarding the resource paths.

  • Using the resource path for doc list

In this case, you need to explicitely provide the link of docs with a binder in the representation you provide in the request.

Here is a sample route for this /docs.

The content of such approach could be for method POST:

[
    { "doc_number": 1, "binder": 4, (other fields in the case of creation) },
    { "doc_number": 2, "binder": 4, (other fields in the case of creation) },
    { "doc_number": 3, "binder": 5, (other fields in the case of creation) },
    (...)
]
  • Using sub resource path of binder element

In addition you could also consider to leverage sub routes to describe the link between docs and binders. The hints regarding the association between a doc and a binder doesn't have now to be specified within the request content.

Here is a sample route for this /binder/{binderId}/docs. In this case, sending a list of docs with a method POST or PATCH will attach docs to the binder with identifier binderId after having created the doc if it doesn't exist.

The content of such approach could be for method POST:

[
    { "doc_number": 1, (other fields in the case of creation) },
    { "doc_number": 2, (other fields in the case of creation) },
    { "doc_number": 3, (other fields in the case of creation) },
    (...)
]

Regarding the response, it's up to you to define the level of response and the errors to return. I see two levels: the status level (global level) and the payload level (thinner level). It's also up to you to define if all the inserts / updates corresponding to your request must be atomic or not.

  • Atomic

In this case, you can leverage the HTTP status. If everything goes well, you get a status 200. If not, another status like 400 if the provided data aren't correct (for example binder id not valid) or something else.

  • Non atomic

In this case, a status 200 will be returned and it's up to the response representation to describe what was done and where errors eventually occur. ElasticSearch has an endpoint in its REST API for bulk update. This could give you some ideas at this level: http://www.elasticsearch.org/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/current/bulk.html.

  • Asynchronous

You can also implement an asynchronous processing to handle the provided data. In this case, the HTTP status returns will be 202. The client needs to pull an additional resource to see what happens.

Before finishing, I also would want to notice that the OData specification addresses the issue regarding relations between entities with the feature named navigation links. Perhaps could you have a look at this ;-)

How do servlets work? Instantiation, sessions, shared variables and multithreading

The Servlet Specification JSR-315 clearly defines the web container behavior in the service (and doGet, doPost, doPut etc.) methods (2.3.3.1 Multithreading Issues, Page 9):

A servlet container may send concurrent requests through the service method of the servlet. To handle the requests, the Servlet Developer must make adequate provisions for concurrent processing with multiple threads in the service method.

Although it is not recommended, an alternative for the Developer is to implement the SingleThreadModel interface which requires the container to guarantee that there is only one request thread at a time in the service method. A servlet container may satisfy this requirement by serializing requests on a servlet, or by maintaining a pool of servlet instances. If the servlet is part of a Web application that has been marked as distributable, the container may maintain a pool of servlet instances in each JVM that the application is distributed across.

For servlets not implementing the SingleThreadModel interface, if the service method (or methods such as doGet or doPost which are dispatched to the service method of the HttpServlet abstract class) has been defined with the synchronized keyword, the servlet container cannot use the instance pool approach, but must serialize requests through it. It is strongly recommended that Developers not synchronize the service method (or methods dispatched to it) in these circumstances because of detrimental effects on performance

Error handling in Bash

That's a fine solution. I just wanted to add

set -e

as a rudimentary error mechanism. It will immediately stop your script if a simple command fails. I think this should have been the default behavior: since such errors almost always signify something unexpected, it is not really 'sane' to keep executing the following commands.

Best way to check for "empty or null value"

Render partial view with dynamic model in Razor view engine and ASP.NET MVC 3

There's another reason that this can be thrown, even if you're not using dynamic/ExpandoObject. If you are doing a loop, like this:

@foreach (var folder in ViewBag.RootFolder.ChildFolders.ToList())
{
    @Html.Partial("ContentFolderTreeViewItems", folder)
}

In that case, the "var" instead of the type declaration will throw the same error, despite the fact that RootFolder is of type "Folder. By changing the var to the actual type, the problem goes away.

@foreach (ContentFolder folder in ViewBag.RootFolder.ChildFolders.ToList())
{
    @Html.Partial("ContentFolderTreeViewItems", folder)
}

How do I prevent 'git diff' from using a pager?

The recent changes in the documentation mention a different way of removing a default option for less ("default options" being FRSX).

For this question, this would be (git 1.8+)

git config --global --replace-all core.pager 'less -+F -+X'

For example, Dirk Bester suggests in the comments:

export LESS="$LESS -FRXK"

so that I get colored diff with Ctrl-C quit from less.

Wilson F mentions in the comments and in his question that:

less supports horizontal scrolling, so when lines are chopped off, less disables quit-if-one-screen so that the user can still scroll the text to the left to see what was cut off.

Those modifications were already visible in git 1.8.x, as illustrated in "Always use the pager for git diff" (see the comments). But the documentation just got reworded (for git 1.8.5 or 1.9, Q4 2013).

Text viewer for use by Git commands (e.g., 'less').
The value is meant to be interpreted by the shell.

The order of preference is:

  • the $GIT_PAGER environment variable,
  • then core.pager configuration,
  • then $PAGER,
  • and then the default chosen at compile time (usually 'less').

When the LESS environment variable is unset, Git sets it to FRSX
(if LESS environment variable is set, Git does not change it at all).

If you want to selectively override Git's default setting for LESS, you can set core.pager to e.g. less -+S.
This will be passed to the shell by Git, which will translate the final command to LESS=FRSX less -+S. The environment tells the command to set the S option to chop long lines but the command line resets it to the default to fold long lines.

See commit 97d01f2a for the reason behind the new documentation wording:

config: rewrite core.pager documentation

The text mentions core.pager and GIT_PAGER without giving the overall picture of precedence. Borrow a better description from the git var(1) documentation.

The use of the mechanism to allow system-wide, global and per-repository configuration files is not limited to this particular variable. Remove it to clarify the paragraph.

Rewrite the part that explains how the environment variable LESS is set to Git's default value, and how to selectively customize it.

Note: commit b327583 (Matthieu Moy moy, April 2014, for git 2.0.x/2.1, Q3 2014) will remove the S by default:

pager: remove 'S' from $LESS by default

By default, Git used to set $LESS to -FRSX if $LESS was not set by the user.
The FRX flags actually make sense for Git (F and X because sometimes the output Git pipes to less is short, and R because Git pipes colored output).
The S flag (chop long lines), on the other hand, is not related to Git and is a matter of user preference. Git should not decide for the user to change LESS's default.

More specifically, the S flag harms users who review untrusted code within a pager, since a patch looking like:

-old code;
+new good code; [... lots of tabs ...] malicious code;

would appear identical to:

-old code;
+new good code;

Users who prefer the old behavior can still set the $LESS environment variable to -FRSX explicitly, or set core.pager to 'less -S'.

The documentation will read:

The environment does not set the S option but the command line does, instructing less to truncate long lines.
Similarly, setting core.pager to less -+F will deactivate the F option specified by the environment from the command-line, deactivating the "quit if one screen" behavior of less.
One can specifically activate some flags for particular commands: for example, setting pager.blame to less -S enables line truncation only for git blame.

and my webapp ( running locally )

Not sure what you mean here but I'll assume the webapp container is started by Maven. You can pass system properties on the command line using:

mvn -DargLine="-DpropertyName=propertyValue"

Update: Ok, got it now. For Jetty, you should also be able to set system properties in the Maven Jetty Plugin configuration. From Setting System Properties:

<project>
  ...
  <plugins>
    ...
      <plugin>
        <groupId>org.mortbay.jetty</groupId>
        <artifactId>maven-jetty-plugin</artifactId>
        <configuration>
         ...
         <systemProperties>
            <systemProperty>
              <name>propertyName</name>
              <value>propertyValue</value>
            </systemProperty>
            ...
         </systemProperties>
        </configuration>
      </plugin>
  </plugins>

AngularJS : Initialize service with asynchronous data

You can use JSONP to asynchronously load service data. The JSONP request will be made during the initial page load and the results will be available before your application starts. This way you won't have to bloat your routing with redundant resolves.

You html would look like this:

<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.2.23/angular.min.js"></script>
<script>

function MyService {
  this.getData = function(){
    return   MyService.data;
  }
}
MyService.setData = function(data) {
  MyService.data = data;
}

angular.module('main')
.service('MyService', MyService)

</script>
<script src="/some_data.php?jsonp=MyService.setData"></script>

Display back button on action bar

Try this code, considers it only if you need the back button.

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    //YOUR CODE
    getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);

    //YOUR CODE
}

@Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
    onBackPressed();
    return true;
}

Is a LINQ statement faster than a 'foreach' loop?

Why should LINQ be faster? It also uses loops internally.

Most of the times, LINQ will be a bit slower because it introduces overhead. Do not use LINQ if you care much about performance. Use LINQ because you want shorter better readable and maintainable code.

cannot redeclare block scoped variable (typescript)

Putting it back to 3.0.2 fixed it

Loop through Map in Groovy?

Alternatively you could use a for loop as shown in the Groovy Docs:

def map = ['a':1, 'b':2, 'c':3]
for ( e in map ) {
    print "key = ${e.key}, value = ${e.value}"
}

/*
Result:
key = a, value = 1
key = b, value = 2
key = c, value = 3
*/

One benefit of using a for loop as opposed to an each closure is easier debugging, as you cannot hit a break point inside an each closure (when using Netbeans).

How to make a HTTP PUT request?

            var values = string.Format("Name={0}&Family={1}&Id={2}", NameToUpdateTextBox.Text, FamilyToUpdateTextBox.Text, IdToUpdateTextBox.Text);
            var bytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(values);
            HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(string.Format("http://localhost:51436/api/employees"));
            request.Method = "PUT";
            request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
            using (var requestStream = request.GetRequestStream())
            {
                requestStream.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length);

How to turn off Wifi via ADB?

All these input keyevent combinations are SO android/hardware dependent, it's a pain.

However, I finally found the combination for my old android 4.1 device :

adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.wifi.WifiSettings
adb shell "input keyevent KEYCODE_DPAD_LEFT;input keyevent KEYCODE_DPAD_RIGHT;input keyevent KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER"

Is there any way to return HTML in a PHP function? (without building the return value as a string)

You can use a heredoc, which supports variable interpolation, making it look fairly neat:

function TestBlockHTML ($replStr) {
return <<<HTML
    <html>
    <body><h1>{$replStr}</h1>
    </body>
    </html>
HTML;
}

Pay close attention to the warning in the manual though - the closing line must not contain any whitespace, so can't be indented.

Chart won't update in Excel (2007)

Ok I have a solution, really....

I found that the problem with my charts not updating first occurred shortly after I had hidden some data columns feeding the chart, and checked "show data hidden in rows and columns" in the Chart's "Select Data Source" msg box).

I found that if I went back into the "Select Data Source" msg box and unchecked/rechecked the "show data hidden in rows and columns" that the chart refreshes.

Programatically I inserted the following into a Macro that I linked a button to, it refreshes all of my charts quick enough for a workaround to a known bug. This code assumes one chart per worksheet but another for statement for charts 1 to N could be added if desired:

Sub RefreshCharts()

    Application.ScreenUpdating = False

For I = 1 To ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets.Count

Worksheets(I).Activate

    ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate

    ActiveChart.PlotVisibleOnly = True

    ActiveChart.PlotVisibleOnly = False

Next I

    Application.ScreenUpdating = True

End Sub

null vs empty string in Oracle

This is because Oracle internally changes empty string to NULL values. Oracle simply won't let insert an empty string.

On the other hand, SQL Server would let you do what you are trying to achieve.

There are 2 workarounds here:

  1. Use another column that states whether the 'description' field is valid or not
  2. Use some dummy value for the 'description' field where you want it to store empty string. (i.e. set the field to be 'stackoverflowrocks' assuming your real data will never encounter such a description value)

Both are, of course, stupid workarounds :)

Combining multiple commits before pushing in Git

You can do this with git rebase -i, passing in the revision that you want to use as the 'root':

git rebase -i origin/master

will open an editor window showing all of the commits you have made after the last commit in origin/master. You can reject commits, squash commits into a single commit, or edit previous commits.

There are a few resources that can probably explain this in a better way, and show some other examples:

http://book.git-scm.com/4_interactive_rebasing.html

and

http://gitready.com/advanced/2009/02/10/squashing-commits-with-rebase.html

are the first two good pages I could find.

Is java.sql.Timestamp timezone specific?

I think the correct answer should be java.sql.Timestamp is NOT timezone specific. Timestamp is a composite of java.util.Date and a separate nanoseconds value. There is no timezone information in this class. Thus just as Date this class simply holds the number of milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 GMT + nanos.

In PreparedStatement.setTimestamp(int parameterIndex, Timestamp x, Calendar cal) Calendar is used by the driver to change the default timezone. But Timestamp still holds milliseconds in GMT.

API is unclear about how exactly JDBC driver is supposed to use Calendar. Providers seem to feel free about how to interpret it, e.g. last time I worked with MySQL 5.5 Calendar the driver simply ignored Calendar in both PreparedStatement.setTimestamp and ResultSet.getTimestamp.

Undocumented NSURLErrorDomain error codes (-1001, -1003 and -1004) using StoreKit

I have similar problems, in my case seem to be related to network connectivity:

Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=-1001 "The request timed out."

Things to check:

  • Is there any chance that your server is not able to respond within some time limit? Like 60 seconds or 4 minutes?
  • Is there a possibility that your device is switching networks (WiFi, 3G, VPN)?
  • Could someone (client vs. server) be waiting for authentication?

Sorry, no ideas how to fix. Just debugging this, trying to find out what the problem is (-1021, -1001, -1009)

Update: Google search was very kind to find this:

  • -1001 TimedOut - it took longer than the timeout which was alotted.
  • -1003 CannotFindHost - the host could not be found.
  • -1004 CannotConnectToHost - the host would not let us establish a connection.

CSS background-image-opacity?

You can't edit the image via CSS. The only solution I can think of is to edit the image and change its opacity, or make different images with all the opacities needed.

Delete all rows in table

Truncate table is faster than delete * from XXX. Delete is slow because it works one row at a time. There are a few situations where truncate doesn't work, which you can read about on MSDN.

How do I set up IntelliJ IDEA for Android applications?

Another way to identify the correct SDK is to install Android Studio, create a new project, go to project structure, SDK Location and find where the SDK was installed.

I found using the default installation process on a mac that the SDK home folder was in the /Users/'yourUser'/Library/Android/sdk folder. Make sure you have enabled your Mac to view the Library folder.

Vue equivalent of setTimeout?

Kevin Muchwat above has the BEST answer, despite only 10 upvotes and not selected answer.

setTimeout(function () {
    this.basketAddSuccess = false
}.bind(this), 2000)

Let me explain WHY.

"Arrow Function" is ECMA6/ECMA2015. It's perfectly valid in compiled code or controlled client situations (cordova phone apps, Node.js), and it's nice and succinct. It will even probably pass your testing!

However, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has decided that Internet Explorer WILL NOT EVER SUPPORT ECMA2015!

Their new Edge browser does, but that's not good enough for public facing websites.

Doing a standard function(){} and adding .bind(this) however is the ECMA5.1 (which IS fully supported) syntax for the exact same functionality.

This is also important in ajax/post .then/else calls. At the end of your .then(function){}) you need to bind(this) there as well so: .then(function(){this.flag = true}.bind(this))

I would have added this as a comment to Kevin's response, but for some silly reason it takes less points to post replies than to comment on replies

DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE!

I code on a Mac, and used the 48 points upvoted comment which worked great! Until I got some calls on my scripts failing and I couldn't figure out why. I had to go back and update dozens of calls from arrow syntax to function(){}.bind(this) syntax.

Thankfully I found this thread again and got the right answer. Kevin, I am forever grateful.

As per the "Accepted answer", that has other potential issues dealing with additional libraries (had problems properly accessing/updating Vue properties/functions)

Excel - match data from one range to another and get the value from the cell to the right of the matched data

Put this formula in cell d31 and copy down to d39

 =iferror(vlookup(b31,$f$3:$g$12,2,0),"")

Here's what is going on. VLOOKUP:

  • Takes a value (here the contents of b31),
  • Looks for it in the first column of a range (f3:f12 in the range f3:g12), and
  • Returns the value for the corresponding row in a column in that range (in this case, the 2nd column or g3:g12 of the range f3:g12).

As you know, the last argument of VLOOKUP sets the match type, with FALSE or 0 indicating an exact match.

Finally, IFERROR handles the #N/A when VLOOKUP does not find a match.

Meaning of 'const' last in a function declaration of a class?

Meaning of a Const Member Function in C++ Common Knowledge: Essential Intermediate Programming gives a clear explanation:

The type of the this pointer in a non-const member function of a class X is X * const. That is, it’s a constant pointer to a non-constant X (see Const Pointers and Pointers to Const [7, 21]). Because the object to which this refers is not const, it can be modified. The type of this in a const member function of a class X is const X * const. That is, it’s a constant pointer to a constant X. Because the object to which this refers is const, it cannot be modified. That’s the difference between const and non-const member functions.

So in your code:

class foobar
{
  public:
     operator int () const;
     const char* foo() const;
};

You can think it as this:

class foobar
{
  public:
     operator int (const foobar * const this) const;
     const char* foo(const foobar * const this) const;
};

How do you kill a Thread in Java?

In Java threads are not killed, but the stopping of a thread is done in a cooperative way. The thread is asked to terminate and the thread can then shutdown gracefully.

Often a volatile boolean field is used which the thread periodically checks and terminates when it is set to the corresponding value.

I would not use a boolean to check whether the thread should terminate. If you use volatile as a field modifier, this will work reliable, but if your code becomes more complex, for instead uses other blocking methods inside the while loop, it might happen, that your code will not terminate at all or at least takes longer as you might want.

Certain blocking library methods support interruption.

Every thread has already a boolean flag interrupted status and you should make use of it. It can be implemented like this:

public void run() {
   try {
      while (!interrupted()) {
         // ...
      }
   } catch (InterruptedException consumed)
      /* Allow thread to exit */
   }
}

public void cancel() { interrupt(); }

Source code adapted from Java Concurrency in Practice. Since the cancel() method is public you can let another thread invoke this method as you wanted.

How to split a large text file into smaller files with equal number of lines?

split (from GNU coreutils, since version 8.8 from 2010-12-22) includes the following parameter:

-n, --number=CHUNKS generate CHUNKS output files; see explanation below

CHUNKS may be:
  N split into N files based on size of input
  K/N output Kth of N to stdout
  l/N split into N files without splitting lines/records
  l/K/N output Kth of N to stdout without splitting lines/records
  r/N like 'l' but use round robin distribution
  r/K/N likewise but only output Kth of N to stdout

Thus, split -n 4 input output. will generate four files (output.a{a,b,c,d}) with the same amount of bytes, but lines might be broken in the middle.

If we want to preserve full lines (i.e. split by lines), then this should work:

split -n l/4 input output.

jQuery ajax post file field

I tried this code to accept files using Ajax and on submit file gets store using my php file. Code modified slightly to work. (Uploaded Files: PDF,JPG)

function verify1() {
    jQuery.ajax({
        type: 'POST',
        url:"functions.php",
        data: new FormData($("#infoForm1")[0]),
        processData: false,
        contentType: false,
        success: function(returnval) {
             $("#show1").html(returnval);
             $('#show1').show();
         }
    });
}

Just print the file details and check. You will get Output. If error let me know.

Haversine Formula in Python (Bearing and Distance between two GPS points)

Most of these answers are "rounding" the radius of the earth. If you check these against other distance calculators (such as geopy), these functions will be off.

This works well:

from math import radians, cos, sin, asin, sqrt

def haversine(lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2):

      R = 3959.87433 # this is in miles. For Earth radius in kilometers use 6372.8 km

      dLat = radians(lat2 - lat1)
      dLon = radians(lon2 - lon1)
      lat1 = radians(lat1)
      lat2 = radians(lat2)

      a = sin(dLat/2)**2 + cos(lat1)*cos(lat2)*sin(dLon/2)**2
      c = 2*asin(sqrt(a))

      return R * c

# Usage
lon1 = -103.548851
lat1 = 32.0004311
lon2 = -103.6041946
lat2 = 33.374939

print(haversine(lat1, lon1, lat2, lon2))

Java: String - add character n-times

You are able to do this using Java 8 stream APIs. The following code creates the string "cccc" from "c":

String s = "c";
int n = 4;
String sRepeated = IntStream.range(0, n).mapToObj(i -> s).collect(Collectors.joining(""));

calling a java servlet from javascript

The code here will use AJAX to print text to an HTML5 document dynamically (Ajax code is similar to book Internet & WWW (Deitel)):

Javascript code:

var asyncRequest;
function start(){
    try
    {
        asyncRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
        asyncRequest.addEventListener("readystatechange", stateChange, false);
        asyncRequest.open('GET', '/Test', true);    //   /Test is url to Servlet!
        asyncRequest.send(null);
    }
    catch(exception)
   {
    alert("Request failed");
   }
}

function stateChange(){
if(asyncRequest.readyState == 4 && asyncRequest.status == 200)
    {
    var text = document.getElementById("text"); // text is an id of a
    text.innerHTML = asyncRequest.responseText;         //  div in HTML document
    }
}

window.addEventListener("load", start(), false);

Servlet java code:

public class Test extends HttpServlet{
@Override
public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
    throws IOException{
        resp.setContentType("text/plain");
        resp.getWriter().println("Servlet wrote this! (Test.java)");
    }
}

HTML document

 <div id = "text"></div>

I wrote answer above when I was new with web programming. I let it stand, but the javascript part should definitely be in jQuery instead, it is 10 times easier than raw javascript.

Gulp command not found after install

If you want to leave your prefix intact, just export it's bin dir to your PATH variable:
export PATH=$HOME/your-path/bin:$PATH
I added this line to my $HOME/.profile and sourced it.

Setting prefix to /usr/local makes you use sudo, so I like to have it in my user dir. You can check your prefix with npm prefix -g.

Disable Laravel's Eloquent timestamps

In case you want to remove timestamps from existing model, as mentioned before, place this in your Model:

public $timestamps = false;

Also create a migration with following code in the up() method and run it:

    $table->dropTimestamps();
});

You can use $table->timestamps() in your down() method to allow rolling back.

How to use nanosleep() in C? What are `tim.tv_sec` and `tim.tv_nsec`?

SQL, How to Concatenate results?

It depends on the database you are using. MySQL for example supports the (non-standard) group_concat function. So you could write:

SELECT GROUP_CONCAT(ModuleValue) FROM Table_X WHERE ModuleID=@ModuleID

Group-concat is not available at all database servers though.

How to get an MD5 checksum in PowerShell

Another built-in command that's long been installed in Windows by default dating back to 2003 is Certutil, which of course can be invoked from PowerShell, too.

(Caveat: MD5 should be in all caps for maximum robustness)

Creating new database from a backup of another Database on the same server?

Think of it like an archive. MyDB.Bak contains MyDB.mdf and MyDB.ldf.

Restore with Move to say HerDB basically grabs MyDB.mdf (and ldf) from the back up, and copies them as HerDB.mdf and ldf.

So if you already had a MyDb on the server instance you are restoring to it wouldn't be touched.

Javascript add leading zeroes to date

You could simply use :

const d = new Date();
const day = `0${d.getDate()}`.slice(-2);

So a function could be created like :

AddZero(val){
    // adding 0 if the value is a single digit
    return `0${val}`.slice(-2);
}

Your new code :

var MyDate = new Date();
var MyDateString = new Date();

MyDate.setDate(MyDate.getDate()+10);
MyDateString = AddZero(MyDate.getDate()) + '/' + AddZero(MyDate.getMonth() + 1) + '/' + MyDate.getFullYear();

Two arrays in foreach loop

You can use array_merge to combine two arrays and then iterate over them.

$array1 = array("foo" => "bar");
$array2 = array("hello" => "world");
$both_arrays = array_merge((array)$array1, (array)$array2);
print_r($both_arrays);

How to define global variable in Google Apps Script

In GAS global variables are not what they are in other languages. They are not constants nor variables available in all routines.

I thought I could use global variables for consistency amongst functions and efficiency as well. But I was wrong as pointed out by some people here at SO.

Global variable will be evaluated at each execution of a script, so not just once every time you run your application.
Global variables CAN be changed in a script (so they are not constants that cannot be changed by accident), but will be reinitialized when another script will be invoked.
There is also a speed penalty on using global variables. If within a function you use the same global variable two or more times, it will be faster to assign a local variable and use that instead.

If you want to preserve variables between all functions in your application, it might be using a cacheService will be best. I found out that looping through all files and folders on a drive takes a LOT of time. But you can store info about files and folders within cache (or even properties) and speed up at least 100 times.

The only way I use global variables now is for some prefixes and for naming widgets.

How to check if field is null or empty in MySQL?

Either use

SELECT IF(field1 IS NULL or field1 = '', 'empty', field1) as field1
from tablename

or

SELECT case when field1 IS NULL or field1 = ''
            then 'empty'
            else field1
       end as field1
from tablename

If you only want to check for null and not for empty strings then you can also use ifnull() or coalesce(field1, 'empty'). But that is not suitable for empty strings.

Set Google Maps Container DIV width and height 100%

Better late than never! I made mine a class:

.map

    top:64px;
    width:1100px;
    height:735px;
    overflow:hidden;
    border:1px solid rgb(211,211,211);
    border-radius:3px;
}

and then

<div id="map" class="map"></div>

How do I implement basic "Long Polling"?

It's simpler than I initially thought.. Basically you have a page that does nothing, until the data you want to send is available (say, a new message arrives).

Here is a really basic example, which sends a simple string after 2-10 seconds. 1 in 3 chance of returning an error 404 (to show error handling in the coming Javascript example)

msgsrv.php

<?php
if(rand(1,3) == 1){
    /* Fake an error */
    header("HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found");
    die();
}

/* Send a string after a random number of seconds (2-10) */
sleep(rand(2,10));
echo("Hi! Have a random number: " . rand(1,10));
?>

Note: With a real site, running this on a regular web-server like Apache will quickly tie up all the "worker threads" and leave it unable to respond to other requests.. There are ways around this, but it is recommended to write a "long-poll server" in something like Python's twisted, which does not rely on one thread per request. cometD is an popular one (which is available in several languages), and Tornado is a new framework made specifically for such tasks (it was built for FriendFeed's long-polling code)... but as a simple example, Apache is more than adequate! This script could easily be written in any language (I chose Apache/PHP as they are very common, and I happened to be running them locally)

Then, in Javascript, you request the above file (msg_srv.php), and wait for a response. When you get one, you act upon the data. Then you request the file and wait again, act upon the data (and repeat)

What follows is an example of such a page.. When the page is loaded, it sends the initial request for the msgsrv.php file.. If it succeeds, we append the message to the #messages div, then after 1 second we call the waitForMsg function again, which triggers the wait.

The 1 second setTimeout() is a really basic rate-limiter, it works fine without this, but if msgsrv.php always returns instantly (with a syntax error, for example) - you flood the browser and it can quickly freeze up. This would better be done checking if the file contains a valid JSON response, and/or keeping a running total of requests-per-minute/second, and pausing appropriately.

If the page errors, it appends the error to the #messages div, waits 15 seconds and then tries again (identical to how we wait 1 second after each message)

The nice thing about this approach is it is very resilient. If the clients internet connection dies, it will timeout, then try and reconnect - this is inherent in how long polling works, no complicated error-handling is required

Anyway, the long_poller.htm code, using the jQuery framework:

<html>
<head>
    <title>BargePoller</title>
    <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.2.6/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>

    <style type="text/css" media="screen">

      .msg{ background:#aaa;padding:.2em; border-bottom:1px #000 solid}
      .old{ background-color:#246499;}
      .new{ background-color:#3B9957;}
    .error{ background-color:#992E36;}
    </style>

    <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
    function addmsg(type, msg){
        /* Simple helper to add a div.
        type is the name of a CSS class (old/new/error).
        msg is the contents of the div */
        $("#messages").append(
            "<div class='msg "+ type +"'>"+ msg +"</div>"
        );
    }

    function waitForMsg(){
        /* This requests the url "msgsrv.php"
        When it complete (or errors)*/
        $.ajax({
            type: "GET",
            url: "msgsrv.php",

            async: true, /* If set to non-async, browser shows page as "Loading.."*/
            cache: false,
            timeout:50000, /* Timeout in ms */

            success: function(data){ /* called when request to barge.php completes */
                addmsg("new", data); /* Add response to a .msg div (with the "new" class)*/
                setTimeout(
                    waitForMsg, /* Request next message */
                    1000 /* ..after 1 seconds */
                );
            },
            error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown){
                addmsg("error", textStatus + " (" + errorThrown + ")");
                setTimeout(
                    waitForMsg, /* Try again after.. */
                    15000); /* milliseconds (15seconds) */
            }
        });
    };

    $(document).ready(function(){
        waitForMsg(); /* Start the inital request */
    });
    </script>
</head>
<body>
    <div id="messages">
        <div class="msg old">
            BargePoll message requester!
        </div>
    </div>

Centering image and text in R Markdown for a PDF report

I used the answer from Jonathan to google inserting images into LaTeX and if you would like to insert an image named image1.jpg and have it centered, your code might look like this in Rmarkdown

\begin{center}
\includegraphics{image1}
\end{center}

Keep in mind that LaTex is not asking for the file exention (.jpg). This question helped me get my answer. Thanks.

Objects are not valid as a React child. If you meant to render a collection of children, use an array instead

Your data homes is an array, so you would have to iterate over the array using Array.prototype.map() for it to work.

return (
    <div className="col">
      <h1>Mi Casa</h1>
      <p>This is my house y&apos;all!</p>
      {homes.map(home => <div>{home.name}</div>)}
    </div>
  );

Annotation-specified bean name conflicts with existing, non-compatible bean def

In an XML file, there is a sequence of declarations, and you may override a previous definition with a newer one. When you use annotations, there is no notion of before or after. All the beans are at the same level. You defined two beans with the same name, and Spring doesn't know which one it should choose.

Give them a different name (staticConverterDAO, inMemoryConverterDAO for example), create an alias in the Spring XML file (theConverterDAO for example), and use this alias when injecting the converter:

@Autowired @Qualifier("theConverterDAO")

Is there an easy way to convert jquery code to javascript?

This will get you 90% of the way there ; )

window.$ = document.querySelectorAll.bind(document)

For Ajax, the Fetch API is now supported on the current version of every major browser. For $.ready(), DOMContentLoaded has near universal support. You Might Not Need jQuery gives equivalent native methods for other common jQuery functions.

Zepto offers similar functionality but weighs in at 10K zipped. There are custom Ajax builds for jQuery and Zepto as well as some micro frameworks, but jQuery/Zepto have solid support and 10KB is only ~1 second on a 56K modem.

How to get the pure text without HTML element using JavaScript?

You want to change the I am working in ABC company. to I am working in ABC company.. These are the same strings, so I don't see a reason to, but you can accomplish this by using the JavaScript innerHTML or textContent.

element.innerHTML is a property that defines the HTML inside an element. If you type element.innerHTML = "<strong>This is bold</strong>, it'll make the text "This is bold" bold text.

element.textContent, on the other hand, sets the text in an element. If you use element.textContent = "<strong>This is bold</strong>, The text "This is bold" will not be bold. The user will literally see the text "This is bold

In your case, you can use either one. I'll use .textContent. The code to change the <p> element is below.

function get_content(){
   document.getElementById("txt").textContent = "I am working in ABC company.";
}

<input type="button" onclick="get_content()" value="Get Content"/>
<p id='txt'>
<span class="A">I am</span>
<span class="B">working in </span>
<span class="C">ABC company.</span>
</p>

This, unfortunately, will not change it because it'll change it to the same exact text. You can chance that by changing the string "I am working in ABC company." to something else.

using batch echo with special characters

Here's one more approach by using SET and FOR /F

@echo off

set "var=<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>"

for /f "tokens=1* delims==" %%a in ('set var') do echo %%b

and you can beautify it like:

@echo off
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
set "print{[=for /f "tokens=1* delims==" %%a in ('set " & set "]}=') do echo %%b"
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

set "xml_line.1=<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>"
set "xml_line.2=<root>"
set "xml_line.3=</root>"

%print{[% xml_line %]}%

How to change the colors of a PNG image easily?

If you are like me and Photoshop is out of your price range or just overkill for what you need. Acorn 5 is a much cheaper version of Photoshop with a lot of the same features. One of those features being a color change option. You can import all of the basic image formats including SVG and PNG. The color editing software works great and allows for basic color selection, RBG selection, hex code, or even a color grabber if you do not know the color. These color features, plus a whole lot image editing features, is definitely worth the $30. The only downside is that is currently only available on Mac.

shell script to remove a file if it already exist

If you want to ignore the step to check if file exists or not, then you can use a fairly easy command, which will delete the file if exists and does not throw an error if it is non-existing.

 rm -f xyz.csv

Unable to read data from the transport connection : An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

My specific case scenario was that the Azure app service had the minimum TLS version changed to 1.2

I don't know if that's the default from now on, but changing it back to 1.0 made it work.

You can access the setting inside "SSL Settings".

The origin server did not find a current representation for the target resource or is not willing to disclose that one exists. on deploying to tomcat

Check Java versions That was a problem for me. IDE (Intellij in my case) could launch without the problem, but when I tried to run war inside tomcat docker image app didn't work. The reason was docker image had a different (lower) version compare to the development environment. There were no errors messages indicating any of this.

How can I bold the fonts of a specific row or cell in an Excel worksheet with C#?

Understanding Spring @Autowired usage

Yes, you can configure the Spring servlet context xml file to define your beans (i.e., classes), so that it can do the automatic injection for you. However, do note, that you have to do other configurations to have Spring up and running and the best way to do that, is to follow a tutorial ground up.

Once you have your Spring configured probably, you can do the following in your Spring servlet context xml file for Example 1 above to work (please replace the package name of com.movies to what the true package name is and if this is a 3rd party class, then be sure that the appropriate jar file is on the classpath) :

<beans:bean id="movieFinder" class="com.movies.MovieFinder" />

or if the MovieFinder class has a constructor with a primitive value, then you could something like this,

<beans:bean id="movieFinder" class="com.movies.MovieFinder" >
    <beans:constructor-arg value="100" />
</beans:bean>

or if the MovieFinder class has a constructor expecting another class, then you could do something like this,

<beans:bean id="movieFinder" class="com.movies.MovieFinder" >
    <beans:constructor-arg ref="otherBeanRef" />
</beans:bean>

...where 'otherBeanRef' is another bean that has a reference to the expected class.

Increasing the JVM maximum heap size for memory intensive applications

When you are using JVM in 32-bit mode, the maximum heap size that can be allocated is 1280 MB. So, if you want to go beyond that, you need to invoke JVM in 64-mode.

You can use following:

$ java -d64 -Xms512m -Xmx4g HelloWorld

where,

  • -d64: Will enable 64-bit JVM
  • -Xms512m: Will set initial heap size as 512 MB
  • -Xmx4g: Will set maximum heap size as 4 GB

You can tune in -Xms and -Xmx as per you requirements (YMMV)

A very good resource on JVM performance tuning, which might want to look into: http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/hotspot/gc/gc_tuning_6.html

Composer require runs out of memory. PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 1610612736 bytes exhausted

Since none of the previous answers included set it took me a bit to figure out how to do it in Windows without altering the php.ini, but here's what worked for me:

set COMPOSER_MEMORY_LIMIT=-1
composer require hwi/oauth-bundle php-http/guzzle6-adapter php-http/httplug-bundle

What is the most efficient way to create HTML elements using jQuery?

I am using jquery.min v2.0.3 . It's for me better to use following:

var select = jQuery("#selecter");
jQuery("`<option/>`",{value: someValue, text: someText}).appendTo(select);

as following:

var select = jQuery("#selecter");
jQuery(document.createElement('option')).prop({value: someValue, text: someText}).appendTo(select);

Processing time of first code is much lower than second code.

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file?

i solved this problem by changing jre required for server (in my case is tomcat). From Server tab in eclipse, double click on the server (in order to open page for server configuration), click on Runtime environment, then change JRE required

Set HTML element's style property in javascript

Don't set the style object itself, set the background color property of the style object that is a property of the element.

And yes, even though you said no, jquery and tablesorter with its zebra stripe plugin can do this all for you in 3 lines of code.

And just setting the class attribute would be better since then you have non-hard-coded control over the styling which is more organized

Removing the textarea border in HTML

This one is great:

<style type="text/css">
textarea.test
{
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
border-color: Transparent;
}
</style>
<textarea class="test"></textarea>

Passing arguments to require (when loading module)

I'm not sure if this will still be useful to people, but with ES6 I have a way to do it that I find clean and useful.

class MyClass {
  constructor ( arg1, arg2, arg3 )
  myFunction1 () {...}
  myFunction2 () {...}
  myFunction3 () {...}
}

module.exports = ( arg1, arg2, arg3 ) => { return new MyClass( arg1,arg2,arg3 ) }

And then you get your expected behaviour.

var MyClass = require('/MyClass.js')( arg1, arg2, arg3 )

How to load/reference a file as a File instance from the classpath

This also works, and doesn't require a /path/to/file URI conversion. If the file is on the classpath, this will find it.

File currFile = new File(getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("the_file.txt").getFile());

Batch Files - Error Handling

Python Unittest, Bat process Error Codes:

if __name__ == "__main__":
   test_suite = unittest.TestSuite()
   test_suite.addTest(RunTestCases("test_aggregationCount_001"))
   runner = unittest.TextTestRunner()
   result = runner.run(test_suite)
   # result = unittest.TextTestRunner().run(test_suite)
   if result.wasSuccessful():
       print("############### Test Successful! ###############")
       sys.exit(1)
   else:
       print("############### Test Failed! ###############")
       sys.exit()

Bat codes:

@echo off
for /l %%a in (1,1,2) do (
testcase_test.py && (
  echo Error found. Waiting here...
  pause
) || (
  echo This time of test is ok.
)
)

Align contents inside a div

You can do it like this also:

HTML

<body>
    <div id="wrapper_1">
        <div id="container_1"></div>
    </div>
</body>

CSS

body { width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; overflow: hidden; }

#wrapper_1 { clear: left; float: left; position: relative; left: 50%; }

#container_1 { display: block; float: left; position: relative; right: 50%; }

As Artem Russakovskii mentioned also, read the original article by Mattew James Taylor for full description.

What are carriage return, linefeed, and form feed?

Carriage return and line feed are also references to typewriters, in that the with a small push on the handle on the left side of the carriage (the place where the paper goes), the paper would rotate a small amount around the cylinder, advancing the document one line. If you had finished typing one line, and wanted to continue on to the next, you pushed harder, both advancing a line and sliding the carriage all the way to the right, then resuming typing left to right again as the carriage traveled with each keystroke. Needless to say, word-wrap was the default setting for all word processing of the era. P:D

Is it possible to assign numeric value to an enum in Java?

Extending Bhesh Gurung's answer for assigning values, you can add explicit method to set value

   public ExitCode setValue( int value){
      //  A(104), B(203);
      switch(value){
        case 104: return ExitCode.A;
        case 203: return ExitCode.B;
        default:
                   return ExitCode.Unknown //Keep an default or error enum handy
      }
   }

From calling application

int i = 104;
ExitCode serverExitCode = ExitCode.setValue(i);

//You've valid enum from now
