How to properly set Column Width upon creating Excel file? (Column properties)

I have change all columns width in my case as

            worksheet.Columns[1].ColumnWidth = 7;
            worksheet.Columns[2].ColumnWidth = 15;
            worksheet.Columns[3].ColumnWidth = 15;
            worksheet.Columns[4].ColumnWidth = 15;
            worksheet.Columns[5].ColumnWidth = 18;
            worksheet.Columns[6].ColumnWidth = 8;
            worksheet.Columns[7].ColumnWidth = 13;
            worksheet.Columns[8].ColumnWidth = 17;
            worksheet.Columns[9].ColumnWidth = 17;

Note: Columns in worksheet start with 1 not from 0 as in Arrary.

How can I bold the fonts of a specific row or cell in an Excel worksheet with C#?

this works for me, so try it :

Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range rng =(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Range)XcelApp.Cells[1, i];
rng.Font.Bold = true;
rng.Interior.Color =System.Drawing.ColorTranslator.ToOle(System.Drawing.Color.Yellow);
rng.BorderAround();

How to get the size of the current screen in WPF?

I understand the demands. The thing is, there are WPF Methods for getting those values - but yes, one of the contributors is right, not directly. The Solution is not to get all those workarounds, but to change the initial approach according to clean Design and Development.

A) Set the initial Main Window to Screen

B) Get the Values for the ActualWindow including a ton of useful WPF Methods

C) You can add as many Windows as you like for the behaviour you want to have, like resizeable, minimized whatever… but now you always can access the Loaded and Rendered Screen

Please be careful with the following example, there is some Code around that makes it necessary to use that kind of approach, however it should work (It would give you the Points for each of the Corners of your Screen): Working Example on Single, Dual Monitor and different Resolutions (Within the Primal Main Window Class):

InitializeComponent();
[…]
ActualWindow.AddHandler(Window.LoadedEvent, new RoutedEventHandler(StartUpScreenLoaded));

Routed Event:

private void StartUpScreenLoaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    {
        Window StartUpScreen = sender as Window;

        // Dispatcher Format B:
        Dispatcher.Invoke(new Action(() =>
        {
            // Get Actual Window on Loaded
            StartUpScreen.InvalidateVisual();
            System.Windows.Point CoordinatesTopRight = StartUpScreen.TranslatePoint(new System.Windows.Point((StartUpScreen.ActualWidth), (0d)), ActualWindow);
            System.Windows.Point CoordinatesBottomRight = StartUpScreen.TranslatePoint(new System.Windows.Point((StartUpScreen.ActualWidth), (StartUpScreen.ActualHeight)), ActualWindow);
            System.Windows.Point CoordinatesBottomLeft = StartUpScreen.TranslatePoint(new System.Windows.Point((0d), (StartUpScreen.ActualHeight)), ActualWindow);

            // Set the Canvas Top Right, Bottom Right, Bottom Left Coordinates
            System.Windows.Application.Current.Resources["StartUpScreenPointTopRight"] = CoordinatesTopRight;
            System.Windows.Application.Current.Resources["StartUpScreenPointBottomRight"] = CoordinatesBottomRight;
            System.Windows.Application.Current.Resources["StartUpScreenPointBottomLeft"] = CoordinatesBottomLeft;
        }), DispatcherPriority.Loaded);
    }

CSS body background image fixed to full screen even when zooming in/out

Add this in your css file:

.custom_class
 {
    background-image: url(../img/beach.jpg);
    -moz-background-size: cover;
    -webkit-background-size: cover;
    -o-background-size: cover;
    background-size: cover;
 }

and then, in your .html (or .php) file call this class like that:

<div class="custom_class">
   ...
</div>

How to re-sync the Mysql DB if Master and slave have different database incase of Mysql replication?

Adding to the popular answer to include this error:

"ERROR 1200 (HY000): The server is not configured as slave; fix in config file or with CHANGE MASTER TO",

Replication from slave in one shot:

In one terminal window:

mysql -h <Master_IP_Address> -uroot -p

After connecting,

RESET MASTER;
FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK;
SHOW MASTER STATUS;

The status appears as below: Note that position number varies!

+------------------+----------+--------------+------------------+
| File             | Position | Binlog_Do_DB | Binlog_Ignore_DB |
+------------------+----------+--------------+------------------+
| mysql-bin.000001 |      98  | your_DB      |                  |
+------------------+----------+--------------+------------------+

Export the dump similar to how he described "using another terminal"!

Exit and connect to your own DB(which is the slave):

mysql -u root -p

The type the below commands:

STOP SLAVE;

Import the Dump as mentioned (in another terminal, of course!) and type the below commands:

RESET SLAVE;
CHANGE MASTER TO
  MASTER_HOST = 'Master_IP_Address',
  MASTER_USER = 'your_Master_user', // usually the "root" user
  MASTER_PASSWORD = 'Your_MasterDB_Password',
  MASTER_PORT = 3306,
  MASTER_LOG_FILE = 'mysql-bin.000001',
  MASTER_LOG_POS = 98; // In this case

Once logged, set the server_id parameter (usually, for new / non-replicated DBs, this is not set by default),

set global server_id=4000;

Now, start the slave.

START SLAVE;
SHOW SLAVE STATUS\G;

The output should be the same as he described.

  Slave_IO_Running: Yes
  Slave_SQL_Running: Yes

Note: Once replicated, the master and slave share the same password!

How do I fix a NoSuchMethodError?

If you are writing a webapp, ensure that you don't have conflicting versions of a jar in your container's global library directory and also in your app. You may not necessarily know which jar is being used by the classloader.

e.g.

  • tomcat/common/lib
  • mywebapp/WEB-INF/lib

How to set a JavaScript breakpoint from code in Chrome?

You can use debugger; within your code. If the developer console is open, execution will break. It works in firebug as well.

what is the use of annotations @Id and @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)? Why the generationtype is identity?

Let me answer this question:
First of all, using annotations as our configure method is just a convenient method instead of coping the endless XML configuration file.

The @Idannotation is inherited from javax.persistence.Id, indicating the member field below is the primary key of current entity. Hence your Hibernate and spring framework as well as you can do some reflect works based on this annotation. for details please check javadoc for Id

The @GeneratedValue annotation is to configure the way of increment of the specified column(field). For example when using Mysql, you may specify auto_increment in the definition of table to make it self-incremental, and then use

@GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)

in the Java code to denote that you also acknowledged to use this database server side strategy. Also, you may change the value in this annotation to fit different requirements.

1. Define Sequence in database

For instance, Oracle has to use sequence as increment method, say we create a sequence in Oracle:

create sequence oracle_seq;

2. Refer the database sequence

Now that we have the sequence in database, but we need to establish the relation between Java and DB, by using @SequenceGenerator:

@SequenceGenerator(name="seq",sequenceName="oracle_seq")

sequenceName is the real name of a sequence in Oracle, name is what you want to call it in Java. You need to specify sequenceName if it is different from name, otherwise just use name. I usually ignore sequenceName to save my time.

3. Use sequence in Java

Finally, it is time to make use this sequence in Java. Just add @GeneratedValue:

@GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="seq")

The generator field refers to which sequence generator you want to use. Notice it is not the real sequence name in DB, but the name you specified in name field of SequenceGenerator.

4. Complete

So the complete version should be like this:

public class MyTable
{
    @Id
    @SequenceGenerator(name="seq",sequenceName="oracle_seq")
    @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="seq")
    private Integer pid;
}

Now start using these annotations to make your JavaWeb development easier.

Including non-Python files with setup.py

In setup.py under setup( :

setup(
   name = 'foo library'
   ...
  package_data={
   'foolibrary.folderA': ['*'],     # All files from folder A
   'foolibrary.folderB': ['*.txt'] #All text files from folder B
   },

month name to month number and vice versa in python

Just for fun:

from time import strptime

strptime('Feb','%b').tm_mon

Efficient way to update all rows in a table

As Marcelo suggests:

UPDATE mytable
SET new_column = <expr containing old_column>;

If this takes too long and fails due to "snapshot too old" errors (e.g. if the expression queries another highly-active table), and if the new value for the column is always NOT NULL, you could update the table in batches:

UPDATE mytable
SET new_column = <expr containing old_column>
WHERE new_column IS NULL
AND ROWNUM <= 100000;

Just run this statement, COMMIT, then run it again; rinse, repeat until it reports "0 rows updated". It'll take longer but each update is less likely to fail.

EDIT:

A better alternative that should be more efficient is to use the DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE API.

Sample code (from Oracle docs):

DECLARE
  l_sql_stmt VARCHAR2(1000);
  l_try NUMBER;
  l_status NUMBER;
BEGIN

  -- Create the TASK
  DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.CREATE_TASK ('mytask');

  -- Chunk the table by ROWID
  DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.CREATE_CHUNKS_BY_ROWID('mytask', 'HR', 'EMPLOYEES', true, 100);

  -- Execute the DML in parallel
  l_sql_stmt := 'update EMPLOYEES e
      SET e.salary = e.salary + 10
      WHERE rowid BETWEEN :start_id AND :end_id';
  DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.RUN_TASK('mytask', l_sql_stmt, DBMS_SQL.NATIVE,
                                 parallel_level => 10);

  -- If there is an error, RESUME it for at most 2 times.
  l_try := 0;
  l_status := DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.TASK_STATUS('mytask');
  WHILE(l_try < 2 and l_status != DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.FINISHED)
  LOOP
    l_try := l_try + 1;
    DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.RESUME_TASK('mytask');
    l_status := DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.TASK_STATUS('mytask');
  END LOOP;

  -- Done with processing; drop the task
  DBMS_PARALLEL_EXECUTE.DROP_TASK('mytask');

END;

How to trim a list in Python

You just subindex it with [:5] indicating that you want (up to) the first 5 elements.

>>> [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8][:5]
[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
>>> [1,2,3][:5]
[1, 2, 3]
>>> x = [6,7,8,9,10,11,12]
>>> x[:5]
[6, 7, 8, 9, 10]

Also, putting the colon on the right of the number means count from the nth element onwards -- don't forget that lists are 0-based!

>>> x[5:]
[11, 12]

Convert DateTime in C# to yyyy-MM-dd format and Store it to MySql DateTime Field

Use DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd h:mm tt");. See this.

Best way to restrict a text field to numbers only?

I use this:

    oEl.keypress(function(ev)
    {
        var sKey = String.fromCharCode(ev.which);
        if (!sKey.match(/[0-9]/) || !sKey === "")
            ev.preventDefault();
    });

The advantage is, that every key which does not provide an input to the field is still allowed, so you don't have to worry about every single special key. Even combos like CTRL + R do still work.

EDIT As this is not working in Firefox I had to modify the function a little:

    oEl.keypress(function(ev)
    {
        var iKeyCode = ev.which || ev.keyCode;
        var aSpecialKeysForFirefox = [8, 9, 13, 27, 37, 38, 39, 40, 46];
        var sKey = String.fromCharCode(iKeyCode);
        if (sKey !== "" && $.inArray(iKeyCode, aSpecialKeysForFirefox ) < 0 && !sKey.match(/[0-9]/)) {
            ev.preventDefault();
        }
    });

Explanation All Browsers handle jquerys keypress event differently. To make it work in FF the $.inArray check is added. As firefoxs keypress-event doesn't trigger when combinations like strg+tab are used, but the others do, the key.match approach still adds a little value to the latter, as it enables those combinations.

How to get `DOM Element` in Angular 2?

Angular 2.0.0 Final:

I have found that using a ViewChild setter is most reliable way to set the initial form control focus:

@ViewChild("myInput")
set myInput(_input: ElementRef | undefined) {
    if (_input !== undefined) {
        setTimeout(() => {
            this._renderer.invokeElementMethod(_input.nativeElement, "focus");
        }, 0);
    }
}

The setter is first called with an undefined value followed by a call with an initialized ElementRef.

Working example and full source here: http://plnkr.co/edit/u0sLLi?p=preview

Using TypeScript 2.0.3 Final/RTM, Angular 2.0.0 Final/RTM, and Chrome 53.0.2785.116 m (64-bit).

UPDATE for Angular 4+

Renderer has been deprecated in favor of Renderer2, but Renderer2 does not have the invokeElementMethod. You will need to access the DOM directly to set the focus as in input.nativeElement.focus().

I'm still finding that the ViewChild setter approach works best. When using AfterViewInit I sometimes get read property 'nativeElement' of undefined error.

@ViewChild("myInput")
set myInput(_input: ElementRef | undefined) {
    if (_input !== undefined) {
        setTimeout(() => { //This setTimeout call may not be necessary anymore.
            _input.nativeElement.focus();
        }, 0);
    }
}

How do I link to part of a page? (hash?)

Just append a hash with an ID of an element to the URL. E.g.

<div id="about"></div>

and

http://mysite.com/#about

So the link would look like:

<a href="http://mysite.com/#about">About</a>

or just

<a href="#about">About</a>

Adding a new array element to a JSON object

var Str_txt = '{"theTeam":[{"teamId":"1","status":"pending"},{"teamId":"2","status":"member"},{"teamId":"3","status":"member"}]}';

If you want to add at last position then use this:

var parse_obj = JSON.parse(Str_txt);
parse_obj['theTeam'].push({"teamId":"4","status":"pending"});
Str_txt = JSON.stringify(parse_obj);
Output //"{"theTeam":[{"teamId":"1","status":"pending"},{"teamId":"2","status":"member"},{"teamId":"3","status":"member"},{"teamId":"4","status":"pending"}]}"

If you want to add at first position then use the following code:

var parse_obj = JSON.parse(Str_txt);
parse_obj['theTeam'].unshift({"teamId":"4","status":"pending"});
Str_txt = JSON.stringify(parse_obj);
Output //"{"theTeam":[{"teamId":"4","status":"pending"},{"teamId":"1","status":"pending"},{"teamId":"2","status":"member"},{"teamId":"3","status":"member"}]}"

Anyone who wants to add at a certain position of an array try this:

parse_obj['theTeam'].splice(2, 0, {"teamId":"4","status":"pending"});
Output //"{"theTeam":[{"teamId":"1","status":"pending"},{"teamId":"2","status":"member"},{"teamId":"4","status":"pending"},{"teamId":"3","status":"member"}]}"

Above code block adds an element after the second element.

RegEx to parse or validate Base64 data

Here's an alternative regular expression:

^(?=(.{4})*$)[A-Za-z0-9+/]*={0,2}$

It satisfies the following conditions:

  • The string length must be a multiple of four - (?=^(.{4})*$)
  • The content must be alphanumeric characters or + or / - [A-Za-z0-9+/]*
  • It can have up to two padding (=) characters on the end - ={0,2}
  • It accepts empty strings

Get Android shared preferences value in activity/normal class

If you have a SharedPreferenceActivity by which you have saved your values

SharedPreferences prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
String imgSett = prefs.getString(keyChannel, "");

if the value is saved in a SharedPreference in an Activity then this is the correct way to saving it.

SharedPreferences shared = getSharedPreferences(PREF_NAME, MODE_PRIVATE);
SharedPreferences.Editor editor = shared.edit();
editor.putString(keyChannel, email);
editor.commit();// commit is important here.

and this is how you can retrieve the values.

SharedPreferences shared = getSharedPreferences(PREF_NAME, MODE_PRIVATE);
String channel = (shared.getString(keyChannel, ""));

Also be aware that you can do so in a non-Activity class too but the only condition is that you need to pass the context of the Activity. use this context in to get the SharedPreferences.

mContext.getSharedPreferences(PREF_NAME, MODE_PRIVATE);

how to count the spaces in a java string?

The code you provided would print the number of tabs, not the number of spaces. The below function should count the number of whitespace characters in a given string.

int countSpaces(String string) {
    int spaces = 0;
    for(int i = 0; i < string.length(); i++) {
        spaces += (Character.isWhitespace(string.charAt(i))) ? 1 : 0;
    }
    return spaces;
}

PHP CURL & HTTPS

I was trying to use CURL to do some https API calls with php and ran into this problem. I noticed a recommendation on the php site which got me up and running: http://php.net/manual/en/function.curl-setopt.php#110457

Please everyone, stop setting CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER to false or 0. If your PHP installation doesn't have an up-to-date CA root certificate bundle, download the one at the curl website and save it on your server:

http://curl.haxx.se/docs/caextract.html

Then set a path to it in your php.ini file, e.g. on Windows:

curl.cainfo=c:\php\cacert.pem

Turning off CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER allows man in the middle (MITM) attacks, which you don't want!

Binding Button click to a method

Click is an event. In your code behind, you need to have a corresponding event handler to whatever you have in the XAML. In this case, you would need to have the following:

private void Command(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{

}

Commands are different. If you need to wire up a command, you'd use the Commmand property of the button and you would either use some pre-built Commands or wire up your own via the CommandManager class (I think).

Targeting only Firefox with CSS

The following code tends to throw Style lint warnings:

@-moz-document url-prefix() {
    h1 {
        color: red;
    }
}

Instead using

@-moz-document url-prefix('') {
    h1 {
        color: red;
    }
}

Helped me out! Got the solution for style lint warning from here

Ajax LARAVEL 419 POST error

Had the same problem, regenerating application key helped - php artisan key:generate

Can't update: no tracked branch

I got the same error but in PyCharm because I accidentally deleted my VCS origin. After re-adding my origin I ran:

git fetch

which reloaded all of my branches. I then clicked the button to update the project, and I was back to normal.

T-sql - determine if value is integer

This work around with IsNumeric function will work:

select * from A where ISNUMERIC(x) =1 and X not like '%.%'

or Use

select * from A where x **not like** '%[^0-9]%'

Angularjs - display current date

Just my 2 cents in case someone stumble upon this :)

What I am suggesting here will have the same result as the current answer however it has been recommended to write your controller the way that I have mentioned here.

Reference scroll to the first "Note" (Sorry it doesn't have anchor)

Here is the recommended way:

Controller:

var app = angular.module('myApp', []);
app.controller( 'MyCtrl', ['$scope', function($scope) {
    $scope.date = new Date();
}]);

View:

<div ng-app="myApp">
  <div ng-controller="MyCtrl">
    {{date | date:'yyyy-MM-dd'}}
  </div>
</div>

Move seaborn plot legend to a different position?

Building on @user308827's answer: you can use legend=False in factorplot and specify the legend through matplotlib:

import seaborn as sns
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
sns.set(style="whitegrid")

titanic = sns.load_dataset("titanic")

g = sns.factorplot("class", "survived", "sex",
                   data=titanic, kind="bar",
                   size=6, palette="muted",
                   legend=False)
g.despine(left=True)
plt.legend(loc='upper left')
g.set_ylabels("survival probability")

How do you keep parents of floated elements from collapsing?

I use 2 and 4 where applicable (i.e. when I know the content's height or if overflowing doesn't harm). Anywhere else, I go with solution 3. By the way, your first solution has no advantage over 3 (that I can spot) because it isn't any more semantic since it uses the same dummy element.

By the way, I wouldn't be concerned about the fourth solution being a hack. Hacks in CSS would only be harmful if their underlying behaviour is subject to reinterpretation or other change. This way, your hack wouldn't be guaranteed to work. However in this case, your hack relies on the exact behaviour that overflow: auto is meant to have. No harm in hitching a free ride.

How do I check if an object has a key in JavaScript?

You should use hasOwnProperty. For example:

myObj.hasOwnProperty('myKey');

Note: If you are using ESLint, the above may give you an error for violating the no-prototype-builtins rule, in that case the workaround is as below:

Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(myObj, 'myKey');

How to style SVG with external CSS?

This method will work if the svg is viewed within a web browser but as soon as this code is uploaded to the sever and the class for the svg icon is coded as if it was a background image the color is lost and back to the default color. Seems like the color can not be changed from the external style sheet even though both the svg class for the color and the top layer class for the display and position of the svg are both mapped to the same directory.

How to read .pem file to get private and public key

If a PEM contains only one RSA private key without encryption, it must be an ASN.1 sequence structure including 9 numbers to present a Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT) key:

  1. version (always 0)
  2. modulus (n)
  3. public exponent (e, always 65537)
  4. private exponent (d)
  5. prime p
  6. prime q
  7. d mod (p - 1) (dp)
  8. d mod (q - 1) (dq)
  9. q^-1 mod p (qinv)

We can implement an RSAPrivateCrtKey:

class RSAPrivateCrtKeyImpl implements RSAPrivateCrtKey {
    private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;

    BigInteger n, e, d, p, q, dp, dq, qinv;

    @Override
    public BigInteger getModulus() {
        return n;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getPublicExponent() {
        return e;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getPrivateExponent() {
        return d;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getPrimeP() {
        return p;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getPrimeQ() {
        return q;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getPrimeExponentP() {
        return dp;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getPrimeExponentQ() {
        return dq;
    }

    @Override
    public BigInteger getCrtCoefficient() {
        return qinv;
    }

    @Override
    public String getAlgorithm() {
        return "RSA";
    }

    @Override
    public String getFormat() {
        throw new UnsupportedOperationException();
    }

    @Override
    public byte[] getEncoded() {
        throw new UnsupportedOperationException();
    }
}

Then read the private key from a PEM file:

import sun.security.util.DerInputStream;

What is a regular expression for a MAC Address?

The standard (IEEE 802) format for printing MAC-48 addresses in human-friendly form is six groups of two hexadecimal digits, separated by hyphens - or colons :.

So:

^([0-9A-Fa-f]{2}[:-]){5}([0-9A-Fa-f]{2})$

How does autowiring work in Spring?

In simple words Autowiring, wiring links automatically, now comes the question who does this and which kind of wiring. Answer is: Container does this and Secondary type of wiring is supported, primitives need to be done manually.

Question: How container know what type of wiring ?

Answer: We define it as byType,byName,constructor.

Question: Is there are way we do not define type of autowiring ?

Answer: Yes, it's there by doing one annotation, @Autowired.

Question: But how system know, I need to pick this type of secondary data ?

Answer: You will provide that data in you spring.xml file or by using sterotype annotations to your class so that container can themselves create the objects for you.

Get the Id of current table row with Jquery

$('input[type=button]' ).click(function() {
   var bid = jQuery(this).attr('id'); // button ID
   var trid = $(this).parents('tr:first').attr('id'); // table row ID
 });

Concatenate two JSON objects

Based on your description in the comments, you'd simply do an array concat:

var jsonArray1 = [{'name': "doug", 'id':5}, {'name': "dofug", 'id':23}];
var jsonArray2 = [{'name': "goud", 'id':1}, {'name': "doaaug", 'id':52}];
jsonArray1 = jsonArray1.concat(jsonArray2);
// jsonArray1 = [{'name': "doug", 'id':5}, {'name': "dofug", 'id':23},
//{'name': "goud", 'id':1}, {'name': "doaaug", 'id':52}];

Load properties file in JAR?

For the record, this is documented in How do I add resources to my JAR? (illustrated for unit tests but the same applies for a "regular" resource):

To add resources to the classpath for your unit tests, you follow the same pattern as you do for adding resources to the JAR except the directory you place resources in is ${basedir}/src/test/resources. At this point you would have a project directory structure that would look like the following:

my-app
|-- pom.xml
`-- src
    |-- main
    |   |-- java
    |   |   `-- com
    |   |       `-- mycompany
    |   |           `-- app
    |   |               `-- App.java
    |   `-- resources
    |       `-- META-INF
    |           |-- application.properties
    `-- test
        |-- java
        |   `-- com
        |       `-- mycompany
        |           `-- app
        |               `-- AppTest.java
        `-- resources
            `-- test.properties

In a unit test you could use a simple snippet of code like the following to access the resource required for testing:

...

// Retrieve resource
InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/test.properties" );

// Do something with the resource

...

Figuring out whether a number is a Double in Java

Try this:

if (items.elementAt(1) instanceof Double) {
   sum.add( i, items.elementAt(1));
}

Populate a datagridview with sql query results

you have to add the property Tables to the DataGridView Data Source

 dataGridView1.DataSource = table.Tables[0];

Eclipse IDE: How to zoom in on text?

Here is a cool way of ensuring zoom in and zoom out with mouse scroll-wheel in the Eclipse Editor. This one takes inspiration from the solution above from naveed ahmad which was not working for me.

1) First download Autohotkey from http://www.autohotkey.com/ and install it, then run it.

2) Then download tarlog-plugins from https://code.google.com/p/tarlog-plugins/downloads/list

3) Put the downloaded .jar file in the eclipse/plugins folder.

4) Restart Eclipse.

5) Add the following Autohotkey script, save it then reload it (right click on Autohotkey icon in taskbar and click "Reload this script")

; Ctrl + MouseWheel zooming in Eclipse Editor.
; Requires Tarlog plugins (https://code.google.com/p/tarlog-plugins/).
#IfWinActive ahk_class SWT_Window0
^WheelUp:: Send ^{NumpadAdd}
^WheelDown:: Send ^{NumpadSub}
#IfWinActive

And you should be done. You can now zoom in or zoom out with ctrl+mousewheel up and ctrl+mousewheel down. The only caveat is that Autohotkey must be running for this solution to work so ensure that it starts with Windows or run it just before firing Eclipse up. Works fine in Eclipse Kepler and Luna.

SPAN vs DIV (inline-block)

I think it will help you to understand the basic differences between Inline-Elements (e.g. span) and Block-Elements (e.g. div), in order to understand why "display: inline-block" is so useful.

Problem: inline elements (e.g. span, a, button, input etc.) take "margin" only horizontally (margin-left and margin-right) on, not vertically. Vertical spacing works only on block elements (or if "display:block" is set)

Solution: Only through "display: inline-block" will also take the vertical distance (top and bottom). Reason: Inline element Span, behaves now like a block element to the outside, but like an inline element inside

Here Code Examples:

 /* Inlineelement */

        div,
        span {

How to use if - else structure in a batch file?

Your syntax is incorrect. You can't use ELSE IF. It appears that you don't really need it anyway. Simply use multiple IF statements:

IF %F%==1 IF %C%==1 (
    ::copying the file c to d
    copy "%sourceFile%" "%destinationFile%"
    )

IF %F%==1 IF %C%==0 (
    ::moving the file c to d
    move "%sourceFile%" "%destinationFile%"
    )

IF %F%==0 IF %C%==1 (
    ::copying a directory c from d, /s: bos olanlar hariç, /e:bos olanlar dahil
    xcopy "%sourceCopyDirectory%" "%destinationCopyDirectory%" /s/e
    )

IF %F%==0 IF %C%==0 (
    ::moving a directory
    xcopy /E "%sourceMoveDirectory%" "%destinationMoveDirectory%"
    rd /s /q "%sourceMoveDirectory%"
    )

Boto3 to download all files from a S3 Bucket

import boto3, os

s3 = boto3.client('s3')

def download_bucket(bucket):
    paginator = s3.get_paginator('list_objects_v2')
    pages = paginator.paginate(Bucket=bucket)
    for page in pages:
      if 'Contents' in page:
        for obj in page['Contents']:
            os.path.dirname(obj['Key']) and os.makedirs(os.path.dirname(obj['Key']), exist_ok=True)
            try:
                s3.download_file(bucket, obj['Key'], obj['Key'])
            except NotADirectoryError:
                pass

# Change bucket_name to name of bucket that you want to download
download_bucket(bucket_name)

This should work for all number of objects (also when there are more than 1000). Each paginator page can contain up to 1000 objects.Notice extra param in os.makedirs function - exist_ok=True which cause that it's not throwing error when path exist)

Arduino IDE can't find ESP8266WiFi.h file

Starting with 1.6.4, Arduino IDE can be used to program and upload the NodeMCU board by installing the ESP8266 third-party platform package (refer https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino):

  • Start Arduino, go to File > Preferences
  • Add the following link to the Additional Boards Manager URLs: http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json and press OK button
  • Click Tools > Boards menu > Boards Manager, search for ESP8266 and install ESP8266 platform from ESP8266 community (and don't forget to select your ESP8266 boards from Tools > Boards menu after installation)

To install additional ESP8266WiFi library:

  • Click Sketch > Include Library > Manage Libraries, search for ESP8266WiFi and then install with the latest version.

After above steps, you should compile the sketch normally.

stringstream ss(str);
int x;
ss >> x;

if(ss) { // <-- error handling
  // use x
} else {
  // not a number
}

The stream state will be set to fail if a non-digit is encountered when trying to read an integer.

See Stream pitfalls for pitfalls of errorhandling and streams in C++.

How can I copy a file on Unix using C?

One option is that you could use system() to execute cp. This just re-uses the cp(1) command to do the work. If you only need to make another link to the file, this can be done with link() or symlink().

How to rename uploaded file before saving it into a directory?

You can Try this,

Error in Python script "Expected 2D array, got 1D array instead:"?

I faced the same issue except that the data type of the instance I wanted to predict was a panda.Series object.

Well I just needed to predict one input instance. I took it from a slice of my data.

df = pd.DataFrame(list(BiogasPlant.objects.all()))
test = df.iloc[-1:]       # sliced it here

In this case, you'll need to convert it into a 1-D array and then reshape it.

 test2d = test.values.reshape(1,-1)

From the docs, values will convert Series into a numpy array.

How to get the file ID so I can perform a download of a file from Google Drive API on Android?

Checkout remote branch using git svn

Standard Subversion layout

Create a git clone of that includes your Subversion trunk, tags, and branches with

git svn clone http://svn.example.com/project -T trunk -b branches -t tags

The --stdlayout option is a nice shortcut if your Subversion repository uses the typical structure:

git svn clone http://svn.example.com/project --stdlayout

Make your git repository ignore everything the subversion repo does:

git svn show-ignore >> .git/info/exclude

You should now be able to see all the Subversion branches on the git side:

git branch -r

Say the name of the branch in Subversion is waldo. On the git side, you'd run

git checkout -b waldo-svn remotes/waldo

The -svn suffix is to avoid warnings of the form

warning: refname 'waldo' is ambiguous.

To update the git branch waldo-svn, run

git checkout waldo-svn
git svn rebase

Starting from a trunk-only checkout

To add a Subversion branch to a trunk-only clone, modify your git repository's .git/config to contain

[svn-remote "svn-mybranch"]
        url = http://svn.example.com/project/branches/mybranch
        fetch = :refs/remotes/mybranch

You'll need to develop the habit of running

git svn fetch --fetch-all

to update all of what git svn thinks are separate remotes. At this point, you can create and track branches as above. For example, to create a git branch that corresponds to mybranch, run

git checkout -b mybranch-svn remotes/mybranch

For the branches from which you intend to git svn dcommit, keep their histories linear!

Setting the default value of a DateTime Property to DateTime.Now inside the System.ComponentModel Default Value Attrbute

Simply consider setting its value in the constructor of your entity class

public class Foo
{
       public DateTime DateCreated { get; set; }
       public Foo()
       {
           DateCreated = DateTime.Now;
       }

}

adding css class to multiple elements

You need to qualify the a part of the selector too:

.button input, .button a {
    //css stuff here
}

Basically, when you use the comma to create a group of selectors, each individual selector is completely independent. There is no relationship between them.

Your original selector therefore matched "all elements of type 'input' that are descendants of an element with the class name 'button', and all elements of type 'a'".

How does database indexing work?

Classic example "Index in Books"

Consider a "Book" of 1000 pages, divided by 10 Chapters, each section with 100 pages.

Simple, huh?

Now, imagine you want to find a particular Chapter that contains a word "Alchemist". Without an index page, you have no other option than scanning through the entire book/Chapters. i.e: 1000 pages.

This analogy is known as "Full Table Scan" in database world.

enter image description here

But with an index page, you know where to go! And more, to lookup any particular Chapter that matters, you just need to look over the index page, again and again, every time. After finding the matching index you can efficiently jump to that chapter by skipping the rest.

But then, in addition to actual 1000 pages, you will need another ~10 pages to show the indices, so totally 1010 pages.

Thus, the index is a separate section that stores values of indexed column + pointer to the indexed row in a sorted order for efficient look-ups.

Things are simple in schools, isn't it? :P

Can I do Android Programming in C++, C?

PLEASE NOTE: THE ANSWER BELOW IS HORRIBLY OUTDATED, AND MIGHT NOT BE ENTIRELY CORRECT ANYMORE.

You can program in C/C++ using the Android NDK. You'll have to wrap your c++ codebase in a static library and load that through a Java wrapper & JNI.

The standard NDK does not support RTTI and a lot of the functionality of standard c++ is also not available such as std::string, etc. To solve this you can recompile the NDK. Dmitry Moskalchuk supplies a modified version of the NDK that supports this at http://www.crystax.net/android/ndk-r3.php. This modified version works on all Android phones that run on an ARM processor.

Depending on the kind of application you should decide to use Java or C/C++. I'd use C/C++ for anything that requires above average computational power and games -- Java for the rest.

Just pick one language and write the majority of your application in that language; JNI calls can decrease your performance by a lot. Java isn't that hard though -- if you know how to program in C/C++. The advantage of Java is that the application can run on any device running Android, where as NDK applications depend on the architecture it was compiled for.

Why is there no Constant feature in Java?

The C++ semantics of const are very different from Java final. If the designers had used const it would have been unnecessarily confusing.

The fact that const is a reserved word suggests that the designers had ideas for implementing const, but they have since decided against it; see this closed bug. The stated reasons include that adding support for C++ style const would cause compatibility problems.

Convert array into csv

My solution requires the array be formatted differently than provided in the question:

<?
    $data = array(
        array( 'row_1_col_1', 'row_1_col_2', 'row_1_col_3' ),
        array( 'row_2_col_1', 'row_2_col_2', 'row_2_col_3' ),
        array( 'row_3_col_1', 'row_3_col_2', 'row_3_col_3' ),
    );
?>

We define our function:

<?
    function outputCSV($data) {
        $outputBuffer = fopen("php://output", 'w');
        foreach($data as $val) {
            fputcsv($outputBuffer, $val);
        }
        fclose($outputBuffer);
    }
?>

Then we output our data as a CSV:

<?
    $filename = "example";

    header("Content-type: text/csv");
    header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename={$filename}.csv");
    header("Pragma: no-cache");
    header("Expires: 0");

    outputCSV($data);
?>

I have used this with several projects, and it works well. I should note that the outputCSV code is more clever than I am, so I am sure I am not the original author. Unfortunately I have lost track of where I got it, so I can't give the credit to whom it is due.

How to restart service using command prompt?

This is my code, to start/stop a Windows service using SC command. If the service fails to start/stop, it will print a log info. You can try it by Inno Setup.

     SW_HIDE, ewWaitUntilTerminated, ResultCode);
Log('sc start ServiceName:'+SysErrorMessage(ResultCode));

Parsing XML in Python using ElementTree example

If I understand your question correctly:

for elem in doc.findall('timeSeries/values/value'):
    print elem.get('dateTime'), elem.text

or if you prefer (and if there is only one occurrence of timeSeries/values:

values = doc.find('timeSeries/values')
for value in values:
    print value.get('dateTime'), elem.text

The findall() method returns a list of all matching elements, whereas find() returns only the first matching element. The first example loops over all the found elements, the second loops over the child elements of the values element, in this case leading to the same result.

I don't see where the problem with not finding timeSeries comes from however. Maybe you just forgot the getroot() call? (note that you don't really need it because you can work from the elementtree itself too, if you change the path expression to for example /timeSeriesResponse/timeSeries/values or //timeSeries/values)

Using Laravel Homestead: 'no input file specified'

I am using Windows 10 and has the following Homestead configuration

---
ip: "192.168.10.10"
memory: 2048
cpus: 1
provider: virtualbox

authorize: ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

keys:
    - ~/.ssh/id_rsa
folders:
    - map: ~/code #folder in local computer where codes are stored eg, c:\xampp\htdocs\project1
      to: /home/vagrant/code #folder in the VM where the above code will be mapped

sites:
    - map: homestead.local #fake name of the site (redirect this domain to the above IP ie 192.168.10.10 in hosts file ie, c:\windows\system32\etc\hosts)
      to: /home/vagrant/code/public #complete path to index.php file in the local computer to be utilized by homestead.local
databases:
    - homestead

I PINGed the homestead.local domain and was getting results.

But when I typed http://homestead.local in the browser, I got 'no input file specified' error

I checked the code/public folder and there was no index file. I was sure the system was looking for the default file which was somehow missing.

Once I created an index file it started working fine.

Update:

Next time it happened after a change in the Homestead.yaml file, I ran vagrant reload --provision command and it worked.

It looks that running vagrant reload only will not provision the vagrant box. Read here

INSERT INTO from two different server database

You cannot directly copy a table into a destination server database from a different database if source db is not in your linked servers. But one way is possible that, generate scripts (schema with data) of the desired table into one table temporarily in the source server DB, then execute the script in the destination server DB to create a table with your data. Finally use INSERT INTO [DESTINATION_TABLE] select * from [TEMPORARY_SOURCE_TABLE]. After getting the data into your destination table drop the temporary one.

I found this solution when I faced the same situation. Hope this helps you too.

What's the difference between an argument and a parameter?

Yes! Parameters and Arguments have different meanings, which can be easily explained as follows:

Function Parameters are the names listed in the function definition.

Function Arguments are the real values passed to (and received by) the function.

Days between two dates?

Assuming you’ve literally got two date objects, you can subtract one from the other and query the resulting timedelta object for the number of days:

>>> from datetime import date
>>> a = date(2011,11,24)
>>> b = date(2011,11,17)
>>> a-b
datetime.timedelta(7)
>>> (a-b).days
7

And it works with datetimes too — I think it rounds down to the nearest day:

>>> from datetime import datetime
>>> a = datetime(2011,11,24,0,0,0)
>>> b = datetime(2011,11,17,23,59,59)
>>> a-b
datetime.timedelta(6, 1)
>>> (a-b).days
6

How to get a list of installed android applications and pick one to run

I had a requirement to filter out the system apps which user do not really use(eg. "com.qualcomm.service", "update services", etc). Ultimately I added another condition to filter down the app list. I just checked whether the app has 'launcher intent'.

So, the resultant code looks like...

PackageManager pm = getPackageManager();
        List<ApplicationInfo> apps = pm.getInstalledApplications(PackageManager.GET_GIDS);

        for (ApplicationInfo app : apps) {
            if(pm.getLaunchIntentForPackage(app.packageName) != null) {
                // apps with launcher intent
                if((app.flags & ApplicationInfo.FLAG_UPDATED_SYSTEM_APP) != 0) {
                    // updated system apps

                } else if ((app.flags & ApplicationInfo.FLAG_SYSTEM) != 0) {
                    // system apps

                } else {
                    // user installed apps

                }
                appsList.add(app);
            }

        }

How to install pip for Python 3.6 on Ubuntu 16.10?

In at least in ubuntu 16.10, the default python3 is python3.5. As such, all of the python3-X packages will be installed for python3.5 and not for python3.6.

You can verify this by checking the shebang of pip3:

$ head -n1 $(which pip3)
#!/usr/bin/python3

Fortunately, the pip installed by the python3-pip package is installed into the "shared" /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages such that python3.6 can also take advantage of it.

You can install packages for python3.6 by doing:

python3.6 -m pip install ...

For example:

$ python3.6 -m pip install requests
$ python3.6 -c 'import requests; print(requests.__file__)'
/usr/local/lib/python3.6/dist-packages/requests/__init__.py

Angular 2 Scroll to top on Route Change

The best answer resides in the Angular GitHub discussion (Changing route doesn't scroll to top in the new page).

Maybe you want go to top only in root router changes (not in children, because you can load routes with lazy load in f.e. a tabset)

  // Alternatively, you can scroll to top by using this other call:

cannot convert 'std::basic_string<char>' to 'const char*' for argument '1' to 'int system(const char*)'

The type of expression

" quickscan.exe resolution 300 selectscanner jpg showui showprogress filename '"+name+".jpg'"

is std::string. However function system has declaration

int system(const char *s);

that is it accepts an argumnet of type const char *

There is no conversion operator that would convert implicitly an object of type std::string to object of type const char *.

Nevertheless class std::string has two functions that do this conversion explicitly. They are c_str() and data() (the last can be used only with compiler that supports C++11)

So you can write

string name = "john";

system( (" quickscan.exe resolution 300 selectscanner jpg showui showprogress filename '"+name+".jpg'").c_str() );

There is no need to use an intermediate variable for the expression.

JsonMappingException: No suitable constructor found for type [simple type, class ]: can not instantiate from JSON object

Can you please test this structure. If I remember correct you can use it this way:

{
    "applesRequest": {
        "applesDO": [
            {
                "apple": "Green Apple"
            },
            {
                "apple": "Red Apple"
            }
        ]
    }
}

Second, please add default constructor to each class it also might help.

How do you check whether a number is divisible by another number (Python)?

a = 1400
a1 = 5
a2 = 3

b= str(a/a1)
b1 = str(a/a2)
c =b[(len(b)-2):len(b)]
c1 =b[(len(b1)-2):len(b1)]
if c == ".0":
    print("yeah for 5!")
if c1 == ".0":
    print("yeah for 3!")

Overriding fields or properties in subclasses

You can go with option 3 if you modify your abstract base class to require the property value in the constructor, you won't miss any paths. I'd really consider this option.

abstract class Aunt
{
    protected int MyInt;
    protected Aunt(int myInt)
    {
        MyInt = myInt;
    }

}

Of course, you then still have the option of making the field private and then, depending on the need, exposing a protected or public property getter.

How do I make jQuery wait for an Ajax call to finish before it returns?

since async ajax is deprecated try using nested async functions with a Promise. There may be syntax errors.

async function fetch_my_data(_url, _dat) {

   async function promised_fetch(_url, _dat) {

      return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
         $.ajax({

            type: 'POST',
            success: (response) => {
               resolve(JSON.parse(response));
            },
            error: (response) => {
               reject(response);
            }
         });
      });
   }

   var _data = await promised_fetch(_url, _dat);

   return _data;
}

var _my_data = fetch_my_data('server.php', 'get_my_data=1');

Nginx location priority

Locations are evaluated in this order:

  1. location = /path/file.ext {} Exact match
  2. location ^~ /path/ {} Priority prefix match -> longest first
  3. location ~ /Paths?/ {} (case-sensitive regexp) and location ~* /paths?/ {} (case-insensitive regexp) -> first match
  4. location /path/ {} Prefix match -> longest first

The priority prefix match (number 2) is exactly as the common prefix match (number 4), but has priority over any regexp.

For both prefix matche types the longest match wins.

Case-sensitive and case-insensitive have the same priority. Evaluation stops at the first matching rule.

Documentation says that all prefix rules are evaluated before any regexp, but if one regexp matches then no standard prefix rule is used. That's a little bit confusing and does not change anything for the priority order reported above.

Check JavaScript Cookies on W3Schools.com for setting and getting cookie values via JS.

Just use the setCookie and getCookie methods mentioned there.

So, the code will look something like:

<script>

    exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + exdays);

Background images: how to fill whole div if image is small and vice versa

Resize the image to fit the div size.
With CSS3 you can do this:

/* with CSS 3 */
#yourdiv {
    background: url('bgimage.jpg') no-repeat;
    background-size: 100%;
}

How Do you Stretch a Background Image in a Web Page:

About opacity

#yourdiv {
    opacity: 0.4;
    filter: alpha(opacity=40); /* For IE8 and earlier */

Inserting Image Into BLOB Oracle 10g

You cannot access a local directory from pl/sql. If you use bfile, you will setup a directory (create directory) on the server where Oracle is running where you will need to put your images.

If you want to insert a handful of images from your local machine, you'll need a client side app to do this. You can write your own, but I typically use Toad for this. In schema browser, click onto the table. Click the data tab, and hit + sign to add a row. Double click the BLOB column, and a wizard opens. The far left icon will load an image into the blob:

enter image description here

SQL Developer has a similar feature. See the "Load" link below:

enter image description here

If you need to pull images over the wire, you can do it using pl/sql, but its not straight forward. First, you'll need to setup ACL list access (for security reasons) to allow a user to pull over the wire. See this article for more on ACL setup.

Assuming ACL is complete, you'd pull the image like this:

declare
    l_url varchar2(4000) := 'http://www.oracleimg.com/us/assets/12_c_navbnr.jpg';
    l_http_request   UTL_HTTP.req;
    l_http_response  UTL_HTTP.resp;
    l_raw RAW(2000);
    l_blob BLOB;
begin
   -- Important: setup ACL access list first!

    DBMS_LOB.createtemporary(l_blob, FALSE);

    l_http_request  := UTL_HTTP.begin_request(l_url);
    l_http_response := UTL_HTTP.get_response(l_http_request);

  -- Copy the response into the BLOB.
  BEGIN
    LOOP
      UTL_HTTP.read_raw(l_http_response, l_raw, 2000);
      DBMS_LOB.writeappend (l_blob, UTL_RAW.length(l_raw), l_raw);
    END LOOP;
  EXCEPTION
    WHEN UTL_HTTP.end_of_body THEN
      UTL_HTTP.end_response(l_http_response);
  END;

  insert into my_pics (pic_id, pic) values (102, l_blob);
  commit;

  DBMS_LOB.freetemporary(l_blob);
end;

Hope that helps.

Convert date from 'Thu Jun 09 2011 00:00:00 GMT+0530 (India Standard Time)' to 'YYYY-MM-DD' in javascript

function convert(str) {
    var date = new Date(str),
        mnth = ("0" + (date.getMonth()+1)).slice(-2),
        day  = ("0" + date.getDate()).slice(-2);
        hours  = ("0" + date.getHours()).slice(-2);
        minutes = ("0" + date.getMinutes()).slice(-2);
    return [ date.getFullYear(), mnth, day, hours, minutes ].join("-");
}

I used this efficiently in angular because i was losing two hours on updating a $scope.STARTevent, and $scope.ENDevent, IN console.log was fine, however saving to mYsql dropped two hours.

var whatSTART = $scope.STARTevent;
whatSTART = convert(whatever);

THIS WILL ALSO work for END

How do I install boto?

While trying out the

pip install boto

command, I encounter the error

ImportError: No module named pkg_resources

To resolve this, issue another command to handle the setuptools using curl

curl https://bootstrap.pypa.io/ez_setup.py | python

After doing that, the following command will work perfectly.

pip install boto

Hide keyboard in react-native

in ScrollView use

keyboardShouldPersistTaps="handled"

This will do your job.

Change the "From:" address in Unix "mail"

mail -s "$(echo -e "This is the subject\nFrom: Paula <[email protected]>\n
Reply-to: [email protected]\nContent-Type: text/html\n")"
[email protected] < htmlFileMessage.txt

the above is my solution....any extra headers can be added just after the from and before the reply to...just make sure you know your headers syntax before adding them....this worked perfectly for me.

How do I make a textbox that only accepts numbers?

Try a MaskedTextBox. It takes a simple mask format so you can limit the input to numbers or dates or whatever.

How can I recognize touch events using jQuery in Safari for iPad? Is it possible?

I just tested benmajor's GitHub jQuery Touch Events plugin for both 1.4 and 1.7+ versions of jQuery. It is lightweight and works perfectly with both on and bind while providing support for an exhaustive set of touch events.

How can I refresh or reload the JFrame?

Try this code. I also faced the same problem, but some how I solved it.

public class KitchenUserInterface {

    private JFrame frame;
    private JPanel main_panel, northpanel , southpanel;
    private JLabel label;
    private JButton nextOrder;
    private JList list;

    private static KitchenUserInterface kitchenRunner ;

    public void setList(String[] order){
        kitchenRunner.frame.dispose();
        kitchenRunner.frame.setVisible(false);
        kitchenRunner= new KitchenUserInterface(order);

    }

    public KitchenUserInterface getInstance() {
        if(kitchenRunner == null) {
            synchronized(KitchenUserInterface.class) {
                if(kitchenRunner == null) {
                    kitchenRunner = new KitchenUserInterface();
                }
            }
        }

        return this.kitchenRunner;
    }

         nextOrder.addActionListener(new OrderUpListener(list));
         southpanel.add(nextOrder);
         main_panel.add(southpanel, BorderLayout.SOUTH);

    }

Checking for a null int value from a Java ResultSet

Another solution:

public class DaoTools {
    static public Integer getInteger(ResultSet rs, String strColName) throws SQLException {
        int nValue = rs.getInt(strColName);
        return rs.wasNull() ? null : nValue;
    }
}

How do I remove blue "selected" outline on buttons?

You can remove the blue outline by using outline: none.

However, I would highly recommend styling your focus states too. This is to help users who are visually impaired.

What's the difference between map() and flatMap() methods in Java 8?

This is very confusing for beginners. The basic difference is map emits one item for each entry in the list and flatMap is basically a map + flatten operation. To be more clear, use flatMap when you require more than one value, eg when you are expecting a loop to return arrays, flatMap will be really helpful in this case.

I have written a blog about this, you can check it out here.

counting the number of lines in a text file

I think your question is, "why am I getting one more line than there is in the file?"

Imagine a file:

line 1
line 2
line 3

The file may be represented in ASCII like this:

line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n

(Where \n is byte 0x10.)

Now let's see what happens before and after each getline call:

Before 1: line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream: ^
After 1:  line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:         ^

Before 2: line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:         ^
After 2:  line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:                 ^

Before 2: line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:                 ^
After 2:  line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:                         ^

Now, you'd think the stream would mark eof to indicate the end of the file, right? Nope! This is because getline sets eof if the end-of-file marker is reached "during it's operation". Because getline terminates when it reaches \n, the end-of-file marker isn't read, and eof isn't flagged. Thus, myfile.eof() returns false, and the loop goes through another iteration:

Before 3: line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:                         ^
After 3:  line 1\nline 2\nline 3\n
  Stream:                         ^ EOF

How do you fix this? Instead of checking for eof(), see if .peek() returns EOF:

while(myfile.peek() != EOF){
    getline ...

You can also check the return value of getline (implicitly casting to bool):

while(getline(myfile,line)){
    cout<< ...

inline if statement java, why is not working

(inline if) in java won't work if you are using 'if' statement .. the right syntax is in the following example:

int y = (c == 19) ? 7 : 11 ;

or

String y = (s > 120) ? "Slow Down" : "Safe";
System.out.println(y);

as You can see the type of the variable Y is the same as the return value ...

in your case it is better to use the normal if statement not inline if as it is in the pervious answer without "?"

if (compareChar(curChar, toChar("0"))) getButtons().get(i).setText("§");

How do I cast a JSON Object to a TypeScript class?

If you are using ES6, try this:

class Client{
  name: string

  displayName(){
    console.log(this.name)
  }
}

service.getClientFromAPI().then(clientData => {

  // Here the client data from API only have the "name" field
  // If we want to use the Client class methods on this data object we need to:
  let clientWithType = Object.assign(new Client(), clientData)

  clientWithType.displayName()
})

But this method will not work on nested objects, sadly.

How do I replace a character at a particular index in JavaScript?

I know this is old but the solution does not work for negative index so I add a patch to it. hope it helps someone

String.prototype.replaceAt=function(index, character) {
    if(index>-1) return this.substr(0, index) + character + this.substr(index+character.length);
    else return this.substr(0, this.length+index) + character + this.substr(index+character.length);

}

Span inside anchor or anchor inside span or doesn't matter?

It doesn't matter - they're both allowed inside each other.

Where can I find "make" program for Mac OS X Lion?

Xcode 4.3.2 didn't install "Command Line Tools" by default. I had to open Xcode Preferences / Downloads / Components Tab. It had a list of optional components with an "Install" button beside each. This includes "Command Line Tools" and components to support developing for older versions of iOS.

Now "make" is available and you can check by opening terminal and typing:make -v

The result should look like:GNU Make 3.81

You may need "make" even if you don't need Xcode, such as a Perl developer installing Perl Modules using cpan -i on the commandline.

Get pixel color from canvas, on mousemove

I have a very simple working example of geting pixel color from canvas.

First some basic HTML:

<canvas id="myCanvas" width="400" height="250" style="background:red;" onmouseover="echoColor(event)">
</canvas>

Then JS to draw something on the Canvas, and to get color:

var c = document.getElementById("myCanvas");
var ctx = c.getContext("2d");
ctx.fillStyle = "black";
ctx.fillRect(10, 10, 50, 50);

function echoColor(e){
    var imgData = ctx.getImageData(e.pageX, e.pageX, 1, 1);
    red = imgData.data[0];
    green = imgData.data[1];
    blue = imgData.data[2];
    alpha = imgData.data[3];
    console.log(red + " " + green + " " + blue + " " + alpha);
}

Here is a working example, just look at the console.

Change Activity's theme programmatically

I know that i am late but i would like to post a solution here:
Check the full source code here.
This is the code i used when changing theme using preferences..

SharedPreferences pref = PreferenceManager
        .getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
String themeName = pref.getString("prefSyncFrequency3", "Theme1");
if (themeName.equals("Africa")) {
    setTheme(R.style.AppTheme);

} else if (themeName.equals("Colorful Beach")) {
    //Toast.makeText(this, "set theme", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
    setTheme(R.style.beach);

} else if (themeName.equals("Abstract")) {
    //Toast.makeText(this, "set theme", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();

    setTheme(R.style.abstract2);

} else if (themeName.equals("Default")) {

    setTheme(R.style.defaulttheme);

}

Please note that you have to put the code before setcontentview..

Fastest way to reset every value of std::vector<int> to 0

I had the same question but about rather short vector<bool> (afaik the standard allows to implement it internally differently than just a continuous array of boolean elements). Hence I repeated the slightly modified tests by Fabio Fracassi. The results are as follows (times, in seconds):

            -O0       -O3
         --------  --------
memset     0.666     1.045
fill      19.357     1.066
iterator  67.368     1.043
assign    17.975     0.530
for i     22.610     1.004

So apparently for these sizes, vector<bool>::assign() is faster. The code used for tests:

#include <vector>
#include <cstring>
#include <cstdlib>

#define TEST_METHOD 5
const size_t TEST_ITERATIONS = 34359738;
const size_t TEST_ARRAY_SIZE = 200;

using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char** argv) {

    std::vector<int> v(TEST_ARRAY_SIZE, 0);

    for(size_t i = 0; i < TEST_ITERATIONS; ++i) {
#if TEST_METHOD == 1
        memset(&v[0], false, v.size() * sizeof v[0]);
#elif TEST_METHOD == 2
        std::fill(v.begin(), v.end(), false);
   #elif TEST_METHOD == 3
        for (std::vector<int>::iterator it=v.begin(), end=v.end(); it!=end; ++it) {
            *it = 0;
        }
   #elif TEST_METHOD == 4
      v.assign(v.size(),false);
   #elif TEST_METHOD == 5
      for (size_t i = 0; i < TEST_ARRAY_SIZE; i++) {
          v[i] = false;
      }
#endif
    }

    return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

I used GCC 7.2.0 compiler on Ubuntu 17.10. The command line for compiling:

g++ -std=c++11 -O3 main.cpp

no debugging symbols found when using gdb

Some Linux distributions don't use the gdb style debugging symbols. (IIRC they prefer dwarf2.)

In general, gcc and gdb will be in sync as to what kind of debugging symbols they use, and forcing a particular style will just cause problems; unless you know that you need something else, use just -g.

Node.js - Maximum call stack size exceeded

I found a dirty solution:

/bin/bash -c "ulimit -s 65500; exec /usr/local/bin/node --stack-size=65500 /path/to/app.js"

It just increase call stack limit. I think that this is not suitable for production code, but I needed it for script that run only once.

Convert a positive number to negative in C#

Even though I'm way late to the party here, I'm going to chime in with some useful tricks from my hardware days. All of these assume 2's compliment representation for signed numbers.

int negate = ~i+1;
int positiveMagnitude = (i ^ (i>>31)) - (i>>31);
int negativeMagnitude = (i>>31) - (i ^ (i>>31));

Pandas: Setting no. of max rows

Set display.max_rows:

pd.set_option('display.max_rows', 500)

For older versions of pandas (<=0.11.0) you need to change both display.height and display.max_rows.

pd.set_option('display.height', 500)
pd.set_option('display.max_rows', 500)

See also pd.describe_option('display').

You can set an option only temporarily for this one time like this:

from IPython.display import display
with pd.option_context('display.max_rows', 100, 'display.max_columns', 10):
    display(df) #need display to show the dataframe when using with in jupyter
    #some pandas stuff

You can also reset an option back to its default value like this:

pd.reset_option('display.max_rows')

And reset all of them back:

pd.reset_option('all')

fatal: could not create work tree dir 'kivy'

For other Beginners (like myself) If you are on windows running git as admin also solves the problem.

Get month and year from a datetime in SQL Server 2005

It's work great.

SELECT @pYear,@pMonth,@pDay

how to bind datatable to datagridview in c#

for example we want to set a DataTable 'Users' to DataGridView by followig 2 steps : step 1 - get all Users by :

public DataTable  getAllUsers()
    {
        OracleConnection Connection = new OracleConnection(stringConnection);
        Connection.ConnectionString = stringConnection;
        Connection.Open();

        DataSet dataSet = new DataSet();

        OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand("semect * from Users");
        cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
        cmd.Connection = Connection;

        using (OracleDataAdapter dataAdapter = new OracleDataAdapter())
        {
            dataAdapter.SelectCommand = cmd;
            dataAdapter.Fill(dataSet);
        }

        return dataSet.Tables[0];
    }

step 2- set the return result to DataGridView :

public void setTableToDgv(DataGridView DGV, DataTable table)
    {
        DGV.DataSource = table;
    }

using example:

    setTableToDgv(dgv_client,getAllUsers());

input[type='text'] CSS selector does not apply to default-type text inputs?

Because, it is not supposed to do that.

input[type=text] { } is an attribute selector, and will only select those element, with the matching attribute.

How do I get the SharedPreferences from a PreferenceActivity in Android?

Declare these methods first..

public static void putPref(String key, String value, Context context) {
    SharedPreferences prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context);
    SharedPreferences.Editor editor = prefs.edit();
    editor.putString(key, value);
    editor.commit();
}

public static String getPref(String key, Context context) {
    SharedPreferences preferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(context);
    return preferences.getString(key, null);
}

Then call this when you want to put a pref:

putPref("myKey", "mystring", getApplicationContext());

call this when you want to get a pref:

getPref("myKey", getApplicationContext());

Or you can use this object https://github.com/kcochibili/TinyDB--Android-Shared-Preferences-Turbo which simplifies everything even further

Example:

TinyDB tinydb = new TinyDB(context);

tinydb.putInt("clickCount", 2);
tinydb.putFloat("xPoint", 3.6f);
tinydb.putLong("userCount", 39832L);

tinydb.putString("userName", "john");
tinydb.putBoolean("isUserMale", true);

tinydb.putList("MyUsers", mUsersArray);
tinydb.putImagePNG("DropBox/WorkImages", "MeAtlunch.png", lunchBitmap);

how does array[100] = {0} set the entire array to 0?

If your compiler is GCC you can also use following syntax:

int array[256] = {[0 ... 255] = 0};

Understanding the main method of python

In Python, execution does NOT have to begin at main. The first line of "executable code" is executed first.

def main():
    print("main code")

def meth1():
    print("meth1")

meth1()
if __name__ == "__main__":main() ## with if

Output -

meth1
main code

More on main() - http://ibiblio.org/g2swap/byteofpython/read/module-name.html

A module's __name__

Every module has a name and statements in a module can find out the name of its module. This is especially handy in one particular situation - As mentioned previously, when a module is imported for the first time, the main block in that module is run. What if we want to run the block only if the program was used by itself and not when it was imported from another module? This can be achieved using the name attribute of the module.

Using a module's __name__

#!/usr/bin/python
# Filename: using_name.py

if __name__ == '__main__':
    print 'This program is being run by itself'
else:
    print 'I am being imported from another module'

Output -

$ python using_name.py
This program is being run by itself
$ python
>>> import using_name
I am being imported from another module
>>>

How It Works -

Every Python module has it's __name__ defined and if this is __main__, it implies that the module is being run standalone by the user and we can do corresponding appropriate actions.

How does strtok() split the string into tokens in C?

the strtok runtime function works like this

the first time you call strtok you provide a string that you want to tokenize

char s[] = "this is a string";

in the above string space seems to be a good delimiter between words so lets use that:

char* p = strtok(s, " ");

what happens now is that 's' is searched until the space character is found, the first token is returned ('this') and p points to that token (string)

in order to get next token and to continue with the same string NULL is passed as first argument since strtok maintains a static pointer to your previous passed string:

p = strtok(NULL," ");

p now points to 'is'

and so on until no more spaces can be found, then the last string is returned as the last token 'string'.

more conveniently you could write it like this instead to print out all tokens:

for (char *p = strtok(s," "); p != NULL; p = strtok(NULL, " "))
{
  puts(p);
}

EDIT:

If you want to store the returned values from strtok you need to copy the token to another buffer e.g. strdup(p); since the original string (pointed to by the static pointer inside strtok) is modified between iterations in order to return the token.

Check for database connection, otherwise display message

Try this:

<?php
$servername   = "localhost";
$database = "database";
$username = "user";
$password = "password";

// Create connection
$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $database);
// Check connection
if ($conn->connect_error) {
   die("Connection failed: " . $conn->connect_error);
}
  echo "Connected successfully";
?>

How to set HTTP headers (for cache-control)?

The meta cache control tag allows Web publishers to define how pages should be handled by caches. They include directives to declare what should be cacheable, what may be stored by caches, modifications of the expiration mechanism, and revalidation and reload controls.

The allowed values are:

Public - may be cached in public shared caches
Private - may only be cached in private cache
no-Cache - may not be cached
no-Store - may be cached but not archived

Please be careful about case sensitivity. Add the following meta tag in the source of your webpage. The difference in spelling at the end of the tag is either you use " /> = xml or "> = html.

    <meta http-equiv="Cache-control" content="public">
    <meta http-equiv="Cache-control" content="private">
    <meta http-equiv="Cache-control" content="no-cache">
    <meta http-equiv="Cache-control" content="no-store">

Convert an int to ASCII character

"I have int i = 6; and I want char c = '6' by conversion. Any simple way to suggest?"

There are only 10 numbers. So write a function that takes an int from 0-9 and returns the ascii code. Just look it up in an ascii table and write a function with ifs or a select case.

How to return a dictionary | Python

What's going on is that you're returning right after the first line of the file doesn't match the id you're looking for. You have to do this:

def query(id):
    for line in file:
        table = {}
        (table["ID"],table["name"],table["city"]) = line.split(";")
        if id == int(table["ID"]):
             file.close()
             return table
    # ID not found; close file and return empty dict
    file.close()
    return {}

How to set background color in jquery

Usage of @see in JavaDoc?

Yeah, it is quite vague.

You should use it whenever for readers of the documentation of your method it may be useful to also look at some other method. If the documentation of your methodA says "Works like methodB but ...", then you surely should put a link. An alternative to @see would be the inline {@link ...} tag:

/**
 * ...
 * Works like {@link #methodB}, but ...
 */

When the fact that methodA calls methodB is an implementation detail and there is no real relation from the outside, you don't need a link here.

How do I make a Docker container start automatically on system boot?

1) First of all, you must enable docker service on boot

$ sudo systemctl enable docker

2) Then if you have docker-compose .yml file add restart: always or if you have docker container add restart=always like this:

docker run --restart=always and run docker container

Make sure

If you manually stop a container, its restart policy is ignored until the Docker daemon restarts or the container is manually restarted.

see this restart policy on Docker official page

3) If you want start docker-compose, all of the services run when you reboot your system So you run below command only once

$ docker-compose up -d

How to ignore ansible SSH authenticity checking?

Changing host_key_checking to false for all hosts is a very bad idea.

The only time you want to ignore it, is on "first contact", which these two tasks will accomplish:

    - name: Check SSH known_hosts for {{ inventory_hostname }}
      local_action: shell ssh-keygen -F {{ inventory_hostname }}
      register: checkForKnownHostsEntry
      failed_when: false
      changed_when: false
      ignore_errors: yes
    - name: Add {{ inventory_hostname }} to SSH known hosts automatically
      when: checkForKnownHostsEntry.rc == 1
      changed_when: checkForKnownHostsEntry.rc == 1
      set_fact:
        ansible_ssh_common_args: '-o StrictHostKeyChecking=no'

So we only turn off host key checking if we don't have the host key in our known_hosts file.

Change Text Color of Selected Option in a Select Box

ONE COLOR CASE - CSS only

Just to register my experience, where I wanted to set only the color of the selected option to a specific one.

I first tried to set by css only the color of the selected option with no success.

Then, after trying some combinations, this has worked for me with SCSS:

select {
      color: white; // color of the selected option

      option {
        color: black; // color of all the other options
      }
 }

Take a look at a working example with only CSS:

_x000D_
_x000D_
select {_x000D_
  color: yellow; // color of the selected option_x000D_
 }_x000D_
_x000D_
select option {_x000D_
  color: black; // color of all the other options_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<select id="mySelect">_x000D_
    <option value="apple" >Apple</option>_x000D_
    <option value="banana" >Banana</option>_x000D_
    <option value="grape" >Grape</option>_x000D_
</select>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

For different colors, depending on the selected option, you'll have to deal with js.

How to run a C# console application with the console hidden

If you're interested in the output, you can use this function:

private static string ExecCommand(string filename, string arguments)
{
    Process process = new Process();
    ProcessStartInfo psi = new ProcessStartInfo(filename);
    psi.Arguments = arguments;
    psi.CreateNoWindow = true;
    psi.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
    psi.RedirectStandardError = true;
    psi.UseShellExecute = false;
    process.StartInfo = psi;

    StringBuilder output = new StringBuilder();
    process.OutputDataReceived += (sender, e) => { output.AppendLine(e.Data); };
    process.ErrorDataReceived += (sender, e) => { output.AppendLine(e.Data); };

    // run the process
    process.Start();

    // start reading output to events
    process.BeginOutputReadLine();
    process.BeginErrorReadLine();

    // wait for process to exit
    process.WaitForExit();

    if (process.ExitCode != 0)
        throw new Exception("Command " + psi.FileName + " returned exit code " + process.ExitCode);

    return output.ToString();
}

It runs the given command line program, waits for it to finish and returns the output as string.

How to count duplicate rows in pandas dataframe?

df.groupby(df.columns.tolist()).size().reset_index().\
    rename(columns={0:'records'})

   one  two  records
0    1    1        2
1    1    2        1

Pandas merge two dataframes with different columns

I think in this case concat is what you want:

In [12]:

pd.concat([df,df1], axis=0, ignore_index=True)
Out[12]:
   attr_1  attr_2  attr_3  id  quantity
0       0       1     NaN   1        20
1       1       1     NaN   2        23
2       1       1     NaN   3        19
3       0       0     NaN   4        19
4       1     NaN       0   5         8
5       0     NaN       1   6        13
6       1     NaN       1   7        20
7       1     NaN       1   8        25

by passing axis=0 here you are stacking the df's on top of each other which I believe is what you want then producing NaN value where they are absent from their respective dfs.

Using Lato fonts in my css (@font-face)

Well, you're missing the letter 'd' in url("~/fonts/Lato-Bol.ttf"); - but assuming that's not it, I would open up your page with developer tools in Chrome and make sure there's no errors loading any of the files (you would probably see an issue in the JavaScript console, or you can check the Network tab and see if anything is red).

(I don't see anything obviously wrong with the code you have posted above)

Other things to check: 1) Are you including your CSS file in your html above the lines where you are trying to use the font-family style? 2) What do you see in the CSS panel in the developer tools for that div? Is font-family: lato crossed out?

How to set a header in an HTTP response?

First of all you have to understand the nature of

response.sendRedirect(newUrl);

It is giving the client (browser) 302 http code response with an URL. The browser then makes a separate GET request on that URL. And that request has no knowledge of headers in the first one.

So sendRedirect won't work if you need to pass a header from Servlet A to Servlet B.

If you want this code to work - use RequestDispatcher in Servlet A (instead of sendRedirect). Also, it is always better to use relative path.

public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
throws ServletException, IOException
{
    String userName=request.getParameter("userName");
    String newUrl = "ServletB";
    response.addHeader("REMOTE_USER", userName);
    RequestDispatcher view = request.getRequestDispatcher(newUrl);
    view.forward(request, response);
}

========================

public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
{
    String sss = response.getHeader("REMOTE_USER");
}

Javascript Array inside Array - how can I call the child array name?

Array is just like any other object. You can give it a name if you want.

var size = new Array("S", "M", "L", "XL", "XXL");
var color = new Array("Red", "Blue", "Green", "White", "Black");
var options = new Array( size, color);
color.name = "color";
size.name = "size";
options[0].name == "size"
>true

Why is my asynchronous function returning Promise { <pending> } instead of a value?

See the MDN section on Promises. In particular, look at the return type of then().

To log in, the user-agent has to submit a request to the server and wait to receive a response. Since making your application totally stop execution during a request round-trip usually makes for a bad user experience, practically every JS function that logs you in (or performs any other form of server interaction) will use a Promise, or something very much like it, to deliver results asynchronously.

Now, also notice that return statements are always evaluated in the context of the function they appear in. So when you wrote:

let AuthUser = data => {
  return google
    .login(data.username, data.password)
    .then( token => {
      return token;
    });
};

the statement return token; meant that the anonymous function being passed into then() should return the token, not that the AuthUser function should. What AuthUser returns is the result of calling google.login(username, password).then(callback);, which happens to be a Promise.

Ultimately your callback token => { return token; } does nothing; instead, your input to then() needs to be a function that actually handles the token in some way.

AngularJS - Create a directive that uses ng-model

Since Angular 1.5 it's possible to use Components. Components are the-way-to-go and solves this problem easy.

<myComponent data-ng-model="$ctrl.result"></myComponent>

app.component("myComponent", {
    templateUrl: "yourTemplate.html",
    controller: YourController,
    bindings: {
        ngModel: "="
    }
});

Inside YourController all you need to do is:

this.ngModel = "x"; //$scope.$apply("$ctrl.ngModel"); if needed

How do I remove the horizontal scrollbar in a div?

To hide the horizontal scrollbar, we can just select the scrollbar of the required div and set it to display: none;

One thing to note is that this will only work for WebKit-based browsers (like Chrome) as there is no such option available for Mozilla.

In order to select the scrollbar, use ::-webkit-scrollbar

So the final code will be like this:

div::-webkit-scrollbar {
  display: none;
}

Adding a Time to a DateTime in C#

You can use the DateTime.Add() method to add the time to the date.

DateTime date = DateTime.Now;
TimeSpan time = new TimeSpan(36, 0, 0, 0);
DateTime combined = date.Add(time);
Console.WriteLine("{0:dddd}", combined);

You can also create your timespan by parsing a String, if that is what you need to do.

Alternatively, you could look at using other controls. You didn't mention if you are using winforms, wpf or asp.net, but there are various date and time picker controls that support selection of both date and time.

Adding days to a date in Java

If you're using Joda-Time (and there are lots of good reasons to - a simple, intuitive API and thread-safety) then you can do this trivially:

(new LocalDate()).plusDays(5);

to give 5 days from today, for example.

EDIT: My current advice would be to now use the Java 8 date/time api

SSIS Convert Between Unicode and Non-Unicode Error

On the above example I kept losing the values, I think that delaying the Validation will allow the new data types to be saved as part of the meta data.

On the connection Manager for 'Excel Connection Manager' set the Delay Validation to False from the Properties.

Then on the data flow Destination task for Excel set the ValidationExternalMetaData to False, again from the properties.

This will now allow you to right click on the Excel Destination Task and go to Advanced Editor for Excel Destination --> far right tab - Input and Output Properties. In the External Columns folder section you will be able to now change the Data Types and Length values of the problematic columns and this can now be saved.

Good Luck!

Worked for me.

Rails 4 Authenticity Token

Instead of turn off the csrf protection, it's better to add the following line of code into the form

<%= tag(:input, :type => "hidden", :name => request_forgery_protection_token.to_s, :value => form_authenticity_token) %>

and if you're using form_for or form_tag to generate the form, then it will automatically add the above line of code in the form

Creating a Custom Event

Declare the class containing the event:

class MyClass {
    public event EventHandler MyEvent;

    public void Method() {
        OnEvent();
    }

        if (MyEvent != null) {
            MyEvent(this, EventArgs.Empty);
        }
    }
}

Use it like this:

MyClass myObject = new MyClass();
myObject.MyEvent += new EventHandler(myObject_MyEvent);
myObject.Method();

How to add new column to an dataframe (to the front not end)?

The previous answers show 3 approaches

  1. By creating a new data frame
  2. By using "cbind"
  3. By adding column "a", and sort data frame by columns using column names or indexes

Let me show #4 approach "By using "cbind" and "rename" that works for my case

1. Create data frame

df <- data.frame(b = c(1, 1, 1), c = c(2, 2, 2), d = c(3, 3, 3))

2. Get values for "new" column

new_column = c(0, 0, 0)

3. Combine "new" column with existed

df <- cbind(new_column, df)

4. Rename "new" column name

colnames(df)[1] <- "a"

What is the proper way to re-throw an exception in C#?

                });

you call dismiss() on the dialog interface

How to control border height?

A border will always be at the full length of the containing box (the height of the element plus its padding), it can't be controlled except for adjusting the height of the element to which it applies. If all you need is a vertical divider, you could use:

<div id="left">
  content
</div>
<span class="divider"></span>
<div id="right">
  content
</div>

With css:

span {
 display: inline-block;
 width: 0;
 height: 1em;
 border-left: 1px solid #ccc;
 border-right: 1px solid #ccc;
}

Demo at JS Fiddle, adjust the height of the span.container to adjust the border 'height'.

Or, to use pseudo-elements (::before or ::after), given the following HTML:

<div id="left">content</div>
<div id="right">content</div>

The following CSS adds a pseudo-element before any div element that's the adjacent sibling of another div element:

div {
    display: inline-block;
    position: relative;
}

div + div {
    padding-left: 0.3em;
}

div + div::before {
    content: '';
    border-left: 2px solid #000;
    position: absolute;
    height: 50%;
    left: 0;
    top: 25%;
}

MySQL - how to front pad zip code with "0"?

Ok, so you've switched the column from Number to VARCHAR(5). Now you need to update the zipcode field to be left-padded. The SQL to do that would be:

UPDATE MyTable
SET ZipCode = LPAD( ZipCode, 5, '0' );

This will pad all values in the ZipCode column to 5 characters, adding '0's on the left.

Of course, now that you've got all of your old data fixed, you need to make sure that your any new data is also zero-padded. There are several schools of thought on the correct way to do that:

  • Handle it in the application's business logic. Advantages: database-independent solution, doesn't involve learning more about the database. Disadvantages: needs to be handled everywhere that writes to the database, in all applications.

  • Handle it with a stored procedure. Advantages: Stored procedures enforce business rules for all clients. Disadvantages: Stored procedures are more complicated than simple INSERT/UPDATE statements, and not as portable across databases. A bare INSERT/UPDATE can still insert non-zero-padded data.

  • Handle it with a trigger. Advantages: Will work for Stored Procedures and bare INSERT/UPDATE statements. Disadvantages: Least portable solution. Slowest solution. Triggers can be hard to get right.

In this case, I would handle it at the application level (if at all), and not the database level. After all, not all countries use a 5-digit Zipcode (not even the US -- our zipcodes are actually Zip+4+2: nnnnn-nnnn-nn) and some allow letters as well as digits. Better NOT to try and force a data format and to accept the occasional data error, than to prevent someone from entering the correct value, even though it's format isn't quite what you expected.

Batch Script to Run as Administrator

I made this slight modification to Matt's script to enable it to run from within a single script (just add this to the beginning of any script requiring UAC invocation), but read below the code for an even better solution that I've found on a blog:

:: ### START UAC SCRIPT ###

if "%2"=="firstrun" exit
cmd /c "%0" null firstrun

if "%1"=="skipuac" goto skipuacstart

:checkPrivileges
NET FILE 1>NUL 2>NUL
if '%errorlevel%' == '0' ( goto gotPrivileges ) else ( goto getPrivileges )

:getPrivileges
if '%1'=='ELEV' (shift & goto gotPrivileges)

setlocal DisableDelayedExpansion
set "batchPath=%~0"
setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
ECHO Set UAC = CreateObject^("Shell.Application"^) > "%temp%\OEgetPrivileges.vbs"
ECHO UAC.ShellExecute "!batchPath!", "ELEV", "", "runas", 1 >> "%temp%\OEgetPrivileges.vbs"
"%temp%\OEgetPrivileges.vbs"
exit /B

:gotPrivileges

setlocal & pushd .

cd /d %~dp0
cmd /c "%0" skipuac firstrun
cd /d %~dp0

:skipuacstart

if "%2"=="firstrun" exit

:: ### END UAC SCRIPT ###

:: ### START OF YOUR OWN BATCH SCRIPT BELOW THIS LINE ###

My modification uses two file arguments as you can see, which isn't particularly elegant but does the job (and you can always hide them away at the tail end by reserving the first few arguments using dummy placeholders). Additionally, AFAIK Matt's script doesn't support spaces in file paths and this limitation also applies to my modification of this script.

This issue seems to be inherent in the way VBS handles these paths but on the below link there's an even better VBS-based solution for invoking UAC that runs from within a single script without the need for a workaround like this using file arguments and that also supports spaces in file paths:

http://pcloadletter.co.uk/2012/12/11/uac-elevation-for-batch-script/

The script on this link makes slightly different VBS calls as you'll notice, which for some reason circumvents the issue with spaces.

compose-sample-3/html/mail/contact_me.php

As you require the filename with path, enjoy!

Understanding passport serialize deserialize

For anyone using Koa and koa-passport:

Know that the key for the user set in the serializeUser method (often a unique id for that user) will be stored in:

this.session.passport.user

When you set in done(null, user) in deserializeUser where 'user' is some user object from your database:

this.req.user OR this.passport.user

for some reason this.user Koa context never gets set when you call done(null, user) in your deserializeUser method.

So you can write your own middleware after the call to app.use(passport.session()) to put it in this.user like so:

app.use(function * setUserInContext (next) {
  this.user = this.req.user
  yield next
})

How can I check if a program exists from a Bash script?

If there isn't any external type command available (as taken for granted here), we can use POSIX compliant env -i sh -c 'type cmd 1>/dev/null 2>&1':

# Portable version of Bash's type -P cmd (without output on stdout)
typep() {
   command -p env -i PATH="$PATH" sh -c '
      export LC_ALL=C LANG=C
      cmd="$1"
      cmd="`type "$cmd" 2>/dev/null || { echo "error: command $cmd not found; exiting ..." 1>&2; exit 1; }`"
      [ $? != 0 ] && exit 1
      case "$cmd" in
        *\ /*) exit 0;;
            *) printf "%s\n" "error: $cmd" 1>&2; exit 1;;
      esac
   ' _ "$1" || exit 1
}

# Get your standard $PATH value
#PATH="$(command -p getconf PATH)"
typep ls
typep builtin
typep ls-temp

At least on Mac OS X v10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) using Bash 4.2.24(2) command -v ls does not match a moved /bin/ls-temp.

HTTP GET in VB.NET

You should try the HttpWebRequest class.

How do I change Bootstrap 3 column order on mobile layout?

October 2017

I would like to add another Bootstrap 4 solution. One that worked for me.

The CSS "Order" property, combined with a media query, can be used to re-order columns when they get stacked in smaller screens.

Something like this:

@media only screen and (max-width: 768px) {
    #first {
        order: 2;
    }
    #second {
        order: 4;
    }
    #third {
        order: 1;
    }
    #fourth {
        order: 3;
    }
}

CodePen Link: https://codepen.io/preston206/pen/EwrXqm

Adjust the screen size and you'll see the columns get stacked in a different order.

I'll tie this in with the original poster's question. With CSS, the navbar, sidebar, and content can be targeted and then order properties applied within a media query.

Static array vs. dynamic array in C++

I think in this context it means it is static in the sense that the size is fixed. Use std::vector. It has a resize() function.

.aspx vs .ashx MAIN difference

.aspx uses a full lifecycle (Init, Load, PreRender) and can respond to button clicks etc.
An .ashx has just a single ProcessRequest method.

Show/hide forms using buttons and JavaScript

If you have a container and two sub containers, you can do like this

jQuery

    $("#previousbutton").click(function() {
    $("#form_sub_container1").show();
    $("#form_sub_container2").hide(); })

    $("#nextbutton").click(function() {
    $("#form_container").find(":hidden").show().next();
    $("#form_sub_container1").hide();
})

HTML

     <div id="form_container">
            <div id="form_sub_container1" style="display: block;">
            </div>

            <div id="form_sub_container2" style="display: none;">
            </div>
     </div>

How to catch a specific SqlException error?

You can evaluate based on severity type. Note to use this you must be subscribed to OnInfoMessage

conn.InfoMessage += OnInfoMessage;
conn.FireInfoMessageEventOnUserErrors = true;

Then your OnInfoMessage would contain:

foreach(SqlError err in e.Errors) {
//Informational Errors
if (Between(Convert.ToInt16(err.Class), 0, 10, true)) {
    logger.Info(err.Message);
//Errors users can correct.
} else if (Between(Convert.ToInt16(err.Class), 11, 16, true)) {
    logger.Error(err.Message);
//Errors SysAdmin can correct.
} else if (Between(Convert.ToInt16(err.Class), 17, 19, true)) {
    logger.Error(err.Message);
//Fatal Errors 20+
} else {
    logger.Fatal(err.Message);
}}

This way you can evaluate on severity rather than on error number and be more effective. You can find more information on severity here.

private static bool Between( int num, int lower, int upper, bool inclusive = false )
{
    return inclusive
        ? lower <= num && num <= upper
        : lower < num && num < upper;
}

XPath query to get nth instance of an element

This seems to work:

/descendant::input[@id="search_query"][2]

I go this from "XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0 Programmer's Reference, 4th Edition" by Michael Kay.

There is also a note in the "Abbreviated Syntax" section of the XML Path Language specification http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath/#path-abbrev that provided a clue.

Get exit code of a background process

This may be extending beyond your question, however if you're concerned about the length of time processes are running for, you may be interested in checking the status of running background processes after an interval of time. It's easy enough to check which child PIDs are still running using pgrep -P $$, however I came up with the following solution to check the exit status of those PIDs that have already expired:

cmd1() { sleep 5; exit 24; }
cmd2() { sleep 10; exit 0; }

pids=()
cmd1 & pids+=("$!")
cmd2 & pids+=("$!")

lasttimeout=0
for timeout in 2 7 11; do
  echo -n "interval-$timeout: "
  sleep $((timeout-lasttimeout))

  # you can only wait on a pid once
  remainingpids=()
  for pid in ${pids[*]}; do
     if ! ps -p $pid >/dev/null ; then
        wait $pid
        echo -n "pid-$pid:exited($?); "
     else
        echo -n "pid-$pid:running; "
        remainingpids+=("$pid")
     fi
  done
  pids=( ${remainingpids[*]} )

  lasttimeout=$timeout
  echo
done

which outputs:

interval-2: pid-28083:running; pid-28084:running;
interval-7: pid-28083:exited(24); pid-28084:running;
interval-11: pid-28084:exited(0);

Note: You could change $pids to a string variable rather than array to simplify things if you like.
