Starting a shell in the Docker Alpine container

Usually, an Alpine Linux image doesn't contain bash, Instead you can use /bin/ash, /bin/sh, ash or only sh.

/bin/ash

docker run -it --rm alpine /bin/ash

/bin/sh

docker run -it --rm alpine /bin/sh

ash

docker run -it --rm alpine ash

sh

docker run -it --rm alpine sh

T-SQL split string

You can Use this function:

        CREATE FUNCTION SplitString
        (
           @Input NVARCHAR(MAX),
           @Character CHAR(1)
          )
            RETURNS @Output TABLE (
            Item NVARCHAR(1000)
          )
        AS
        BEGIN

      DECLARE @StartIndex INT, @EndIndex INT
      SET @StartIndex = 1
      IF SUBSTRING(@Input, LEN(@Input) - 1, LEN(@Input)) <> @Character
      BEGIN
            SET @Input = @Input + @Character
      END

      WHILE CHARINDEX(@Character, @Input) > 0
      BEGIN
            SET @EndIndex = CHARINDEX(@Character, @Input)

            INSERT INTO @Output(Item)
            SELECT SUBSTRING(@Input, @StartIndex, @EndIndex - 1)

            SET @Input = SUBSTRING(@Input, @EndIndex + 1, LEN(@Input))

Mockito How to mock only the call of a method of the superclass

No, Mockito does not support this.

This might not be the answer you're looking for, but what you're seeing is a symptom of not applying the design principle:

Favor composition over inheritance

If you extract a strategy instead of extending a super class the problem is gone.

If however you are not allowed to change the code, but you must test it anyway, and in this awkward way, there is still hope. With some AOP tools (for example AspectJ) you can weave code into the super class method and avoid its execution entirely (yuck). This doesn't work if you're using proxies, you have to use bytecode modification (either load time weaving or compile time weaving). There are be mocking frameworks that support this type of trick as well, like PowerMock and PowerMockito.

I suggest you go for the refactoring, but if that is not an option you're in for some serious hacking fun.

How to remove stop words using nltk or python

To exclude all type of stop-words including nltk stop-words, you could do something like this:

from stop_words import get_stop_words
from nltk.corpus import stopwords

stop_words = list(get_stop_words('en'))         #About 900 stopwords
nltk_words = list(stopwords.words('english')) #About 150 stopwords
stop_words.extend(nltk_words)

output = [w for w in word_list if not w in stop_words]

Sanitizing user input before adding it to the DOM in Javascript

Since the text that you are escaping will appear in an HTML attribute, you must be sure to escape not only HTML entities but also HTML attributes:

var ESC_MAP = {
    '&': '&amp;',
    '<': '&lt;',
    '>': '&gt;',
    '"': '&quot;',
    "'": '&#39;'
};

function escapeHTML(s, forAttribute) {
    return s.replace(forAttribute ? /[&<>'"]/g : /[&<>]/g, function(c) {
        return ESC_MAP[c];
    });
}

Then, your escaping code becomes var user_id = escapeHTML(id, true).

How do I correct the character encoding of a file?

EDIT: A simple possibility to eliminate before getting into more complicated solutions: have you tried setting the character set to utf8 in the text editor in which you're reading the file? This could just be a case of somebody sending you a utf8 file that you're reading in an editor set to say cp1252.

Just taking the two examples, this is a case of utf8 being read through the lens of a single-byte encoding, likely one of iso-8859-1, iso-8859-15, or cp1252. If you can post examples of other problem characters, it should be possible to narrow that down more.

As visual inspection of the characters can be misleading, you'll also need to look at the underlying bytes: the § you see on screen might be either 0xa7 or 0xc2a7, and that will determine the kind of character set conversion you have to do.

Can you assume that all of your data has been distorted in exactly the same way - that it's come from the same source and gone through the same sequence of transformations, so that for example there isn't a single é in your text, it's always ç? If so, the problem can be solved with a sequence of character set conversions. If you can be more specific about the environment you're in and the database you're using, somebody here can probably tell you how to perform the appropriate conversion.

Otherwise, if the problem characters are only occurring in some places in your data, you'll have to take it instance by instance, based on assumptions along the lines of "no author intended to put ç in their text, so whenever you see it, replace by ç". The latter option is more risky, firstly because those assumptions about the intentions of the authors might be wrong, secondly because you'll have to spot every problem character yourself, which might be impossible if there's too much text to visually inspect or if it's written in a language or writing system that's foreign to you.

jQuery checkbox change and click event

Tested in JSFiddle and does what you're asking for.This approach has the added benefit of firing when a label associated with a checkbox is clicked.

Updated Answer:

$(document).ready(function() {
    //set initial state.
    $('#textbox1').val(this.checked);

    $('#checkbox1').change(function() {
        if(this.checked) {
            var returnVal = confirm("Are you sure?");
            $(this).prop("checked", returnVal);
        }
        $('#textbox1').val(this.checked);
    });
});

Original Answer:

$(document).ready(function() {
    //set initial state.
    $('#textbox1').val($(this).is(':checked'));

    $('#checkbox1').change(function() {
        if($(this).is(":checked")) {
            var returnVal = confirm("Are you sure?");
            $(this).attr("checked", returnVal);

Batch script to delete files

Lets say you saved your software onto your desktop.
if you want to remove an entire folder like an uninstaller program you could use this.

cd C:\Users\User\Detsktop\
rd /s /q SOFTWARE

this will delete the entire folder called software and all of its files and subfolders

Make Sure You Delete The Correct Folder Cause This Does Not Have A Yes / No Option

Evaluating a mathematical expression in a string

You can use the ast module and write a NodeVisitor that verifies that the type of each node is part of a whitelist.

import ast, math

locals =  {key: value for (key,value) in vars(math).items() if key[0] != '_'}
locals.update({"abs": abs, "complex": complex, "min": min, "max": max, "pow": pow, "round": round})

class Visitor(ast.NodeVisitor):
    def visit(self, node):
       if not isinstance(node, self.whitelist):
           raise ValueError(node)
       return super().visit(node)

    whitelist = (ast.Module, ast.Expr, ast.Load, ast.Expression, ast.Add, ast.Sub, ast.UnaryOp, ast.Num, ast.BinOp,
            ast.Mult, ast.Div, ast.Pow, ast.BitOr, ast.BitAnd, ast.BitXor, ast.USub, ast.UAdd, ast.FloorDiv, ast.Mod,
            ast.LShift, ast.RShift, ast.Invert, ast.Call, ast.Name)

def evaluate(expr, locals = {}):
    if any(elem in expr for elem in '\n#') : raise ValueError(expr)
    try:
        node = ast.parse(expr.strip(), mode='eval')
        Visitor().visit(node)
        return eval(compile(node, "<string>", "eval"), {'__builtins__': None}, locals)
    except Exception: raise ValueError(expr)

Because it works via a whitelist rather than a blacklist, it is safe. The only functions and variables it can access are those you explicitly give it access to. I populated a dict with math-related functions so you can easily provide access to those if you want, but you have to explicitly use it.

If the string attempts to call functions that haven't been provided, or invoke any methods, an exception will be raised, and it will not be executed.

Because this uses Python's built in parser and evaluator, it also inherits Python's precedence and promotion rules as well.

>>> evaluate("7 + 9 * (2 << 2)")
79
>>> evaluate("6 // 2 + 0.0")
3.0

The above code has only been tested on Python 3.

If desired, you can add a timeout decorator on this function.

Track a new remote branch created on GitHub

First of all you have to fetch the remote repository:

git fetch remoteName

Than you can create the new branch and set it up to track the remote branch you want:

git checkout -b newLocalBranch remoteName/remoteBranch

You can also use "git branch --track" instead of "git checkout -b" as max specified.

git branch --track newLocalBranch remoteName/remoteBranch

How to use support FileProvider for sharing content to other apps?

If you get an image from camera none of these solutions work for Android 4.4. In this case it's better to check versions.

Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
if (intent.resolveActivity(getContext().getPackageManager()) != null) {
    if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < Build.VERSION_CODES.LOLLIPOP) {
        uri = Uri.fromFile(file);
    } else {
        uri = FileProvider.getUriForFile(getContext(), getContext().getPackageName() + ".provider", file);
    }
    intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, uri);
    startActivityForResult(intent, CAMERA_REQUEST);
}

Custom circle button

With the official Material Components library you can use the MaterialButton applying a Widget.MaterialComponents.Button.Icon style.

Something like:

   <com.google.android.material.button.MaterialButton
            android:layout_width="48dp"
            android:layout_height="48dp"
            style="@style/Widget.MaterialComponents.Button.Icon"
            app:icon="@drawable/ic_add"
            app:iconSize="24dp"
            app:iconPadding="0dp"
            android:insetLeft="0dp"
            android:insetTop="0dp"
            android:insetRight="0dp"
            android:insetBottom="0dp"
            app:shapeAppearanceOverlay="@style/ShapeAppearanceOverlay.MyApp.Button.Rounded"
            />

Currently the app:iconPadding="0dp",android:insetLeft,android:insetTop,android:insetRight,android:insetBottom attributes are needed to center the icon on the button avoiding extra padding space.

Use the app:shapeAppearanceOverlay attribute to get rounded corners. In this case you will have a circle.

  <style name="ShapeAppearanceOverlay.MyApp.Button.Rounded" parent="">
    <item name="cornerFamily">rounded</item>
    <item name="cornerSize">50%</item>
  </style>

Quick way to clear all selections on a multiselect enabled <select> with jQuery?

Simply find all the selected <option> tags within your <select> and remove the selected attribute:

$("#my_select option:selected").removeAttr("selected");

As of jQuery 1.6, you should use .prop instead of removing the attribute:

$("#my_select option:selected").prop("selected", false);

.NET Global exception handler in console application

If you have a single-threaded application, you can use a simple try/catch in the Main function, however, this does not cover exceptions that may be thrown outside of the Main function, on other threads, for example (as noted in other comments). This code demonstrates how an exception can cause the application to terminate even though you tried to handle it in Main (notice how the program exits gracefully if you press enter and allow the application to exit gracefully before the exception occurs, but if you let it run, it terminates quite unhappily):

static bool exiting = false;

static void Main(string[] args)
{
   try
   {
      System.Threading.Thread demo = new System.Threading.Thread(DemoThread);
      demo.Start();
      Console.ReadLine();
      exiting = true;
   }
   catch (Exception ex)
   {
      Console.WriteLine("Caught an exception");
   }
}

static void DemoThread()
{
   for(int i = 5; i >= 0; i--)
   {
      Console.Write("24/{0} =", i);
      Console.Out.Flush();
      Console.WriteLine("{0}", 24 / i);
      System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000);
      if (exiting) return;
   }
}

You can receive notification of when another thread throws an exception to perform some clean up before the application exits, but as far as I can tell, you cannot, from a console application, force the application to continue running if you do not handle the exception on the thread from which it is thrown without using some obscure compatibility options to make the application behave like it would have with .NET 1.x. This code demonstrates how the main thread can be notified of exceptions coming from other threads, but will still terminate unhappily:

static bool exiting = false;

static void Main(string[] args)
{
   try
   {
      System.Threading.Thread demo = new System.Threading.Thread(DemoThread);
      AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException);
      demo.Start();
      Console.ReadLine();
      exiting = true;
   }
   catch (Exception ex)
   {
      Console.WriteLine("Caught an exception");
   }
}

static void CurrentDomain_UnhandledException(object sender, UnhandledExceptionEventArgs e)
{
   Console.WriteLine("Notified of a thread exception... application is terminating.");
}

static void DemoThread()
{
   for(int i = 5; i >= 0; i--)
   {
      Console.Write("24/{0} =", i);
      Console.Out.Flush();
      Console.WriteLine("{0}", 24 / i);
      System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000);
      if (exiting) return;
   }
}

So in my opinion, the cleanest way to handle it in a console application is to ensure that every thread has an exception handler at the root level:

static bool exiting = false;

static void Main(string[] args)
{
   try
   {
      System.Threading.Thread demo = new System.Threading.Thread(DemoThread);
      demo.Start();
      Console.ReadLine();
      exiting = true;
   }
   catch (Exception ex)
   {
      Console.WriteLine("Caught an exception");
   }
}

static void DemoThread()
{
   try
   {
      for (int i = 5; i >= 0; i--)
      {
         Console.Write("24/{0} =", i);
         Console.Out.Flush();
         Console.WriteLine("{0}", 24 / i);
         System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000);
         if (exiting) return;
      }
   }
   catch (Exception ex)
   {
      Console.WriteLine("Caught an exception on the other thread");
   }
}

How to create radio buttons and checkbox in swift (iOS)?

Though some of the answers mention it rightly that we can use the Selected State to set an image for Selected state of the button, it won't work elegantly when the button has to have both image and text.

Like many, I ended by subclassing UIButton; however, added support for setting images from Interface Builder.

Below is my code:

import UIKit

class CustomCheckbox: UIButton {

    @IBInspectable var defaultStateImage: UIImage? = nil {
        didSet{
            self.setNeedsDisplay()
        }
    }

    @IBInspectable var selectedStateImage: UIImage? = nil {
        didSet{
            self.setNeedsDisplay()
        }
    }

    @IBInspectable var gapPadding: CGFloat = 0 {
        didSet{
            self.setNeedsDisplay()
        }
    }

    @IBInspectable var isChecked: Bool = false {
        didSet{
            self.setNeedsDisplay()
        }
    }

    var defaultImageView: UIImageView? = nil
    var selectedImageView: UIImageView? = nil

    override init(frame: CGRect) {
        super.init(frame: frame)
        setup()
    }
    required public init?(coder aDecoder: NSCoder) {
        super.init(coder: aDecoder)
        setup()
    }

    override func layoutSubviews() {
        super.layoutSubviews()
        setup()
    }

    func setup() {
        if(defaultStateImage != nil) {
            defaultImageView = UIImageView(image: defaultStateImage)
            defaultImageView?.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false

            addSubview(defaultImageView!)

            let length = CGFloat(16)
            titleEdgeInsets.left += length

            NSLayoutConstraint.activate([
                defaultImageView!.leadingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: self.leadingAnchor, constant: -gapPadding),
                defaultImageView!.centerYAnchor.constraint(equalTo: self.titleLabel!.centerYAnchor, constant: 0),
                defaultImageView!.widthAnchor.constraint(equalToConstant: length),

Create patch or diff file from git repository and apply it to another different git repository

To produce patch for several commits, you should use format-patch git command, e.g.

git format-patch -k --stdout R1..R2

This will export your commits into patch file in mailbox format.

To generate patch for the last commit, run:

git format-patch -k --stdout HEAD^

Then in another repository apply the patch by am git command, e.g.

if you want to set edit icon on to circle imageview than put this below code.

 <FrameLayout

How do I start PowerShell from Windows Explorer?

I'm surprised nobody has given this answer, it's the simplest one. (Must be the year.)

Just Shift + right click in Explorer. Then you can "Open PowerShell window here".

It may be set to Command Prompt by default. If so, you can change this in the Windows 10 Settings: go to Personalization -> Taskbar and enable "Replace Command Prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu when I right-click the start button or press Windows key+X".

Is object empty?

How bad is this?

Converting unix time into date-time via excel

TLDR

=(A1/86400)+25569

...and the format of the cell should be date.

If it doesn't work for you

  • If you get a number you forgot to format the output cell as a date.
  • If you get ##### you probably don't have a real Unix time. Check your timestamps in https://www.epochconverter.com/. Try to divide your input by 10, 100, 1000 or 10000**
  • You work with timestamps outside Excel's (very extended) limits.
  • You didn't replace A1 with the cell containing the timestamp ;-p

Explanation

Unix system represent a point in time as a number. Specifically the number of seconds* since a zero-time called the Unix epoch which is 1/1/1970 00:00 UTC/GMT. This number of seconds is called "Unix timestamp" or "Unix time" or "POSIX time" or just "timestamp" and sometimes (confusingly) "Unix epoch".

In the case of Excel they chose a different zero-time and step (because who wouldn't like variety in technical details?). So Excel counts days since 24 hours before 1/1/0000 UTC/GMT. So 25569 corresponds to 1/1/1970 00:00 UTC/GMT and 25570 to 2/1/1970 00:00.

Now please note that we have 86400 seconds per day (24 hours x60 minutes each x60 seconds) and you can understand what this formula does: A1/86400 converts seconds to days and +25569 adjusts for the offset between what is time-zero for Unix and what is time-zero for Excel.

By the way DATE(1970,1,1) will helpfully return 25569 for you in case you forget all this so a more "self-documenting" way to write our formula is:

=A1/(24*60*60) + DATE(1970,1,1)

P.S.: All these were already present in other answers and comments just not laid out as I like them and I don't feel it's OK to edit the hell out of another answer.

*: that's almost correct because you should not count leap seconds

**: E.g. in the case of this question the number was number of milliseconds since the the Unix epoch.

How to get child element by ID in JavaScript?

Here is a pure JavaScript solution (without jQuery)

var _Utils = function ()
{
    this.findChildById = function (element, childID, isSearchInnerDescendant) // isSearchInnerDescendant <= true for search in inner childern
    {
        var retElement = null;
        var lstChildren = isSearchInnerDescendant ? Utils.getAllDescendant(element) : element.childNodes;

        for (var i = 0; i < lstChildren.length; i++)
        {
            if (lstChildren[i].id == childID)
            {
                retElement = lstChildren[i];
                break;
            }
        }

        return retElement;
    }

    this.getAllDescendant = function (element, lstChildrenNodes)
    {
        lstChildrenNodes = lstChildrenNodes ? lstChildrenNodes : [];

        var lstChildren = element.childNodes;

        for (var i = 0; i < lstChildren.length; i++)
        {
            if (lstChildren[i].nodeType == 1) // 1 is 'ELEMENT_NODE'
            {
                lstChildrenNodes.push(lstChildren[i]);
                lstChildrenNodes = Utils.getAllDescendant(lstChildren[i], lstChildrenNodes);
            }
        }

        return lstChildrenNodes;
    }
}
var Utils = new _Utils;

Example of use:

var myDiv = document.createElement("div");
myDiv.innerHTML = "<table id='tableToolbar'>" +
                        "<tr>" +
                            "<td>" +
                                "<div id='divIdToSearch'>" +
                                "</div>" +
                            "</td>" +
                        "</tr>" +
                    "</table>";

var divToSearch = Utils.findChildById(myDiv, "divIdToSearch", true);

jQuery - get all divs inside a div with class ".container"

To set the class when clicking on a div immediately within the .container element, you could use:

<script>
$('.container>div').click(function () {
        $(this).addClass('whatever')
    });
</script>

Why is using a wild card with a Java import statement bad?

In a previous project I found that changing from *-imports to specific imports reduced compilation time by half (from about 10 minutes to about 5 minutes). The *-import makes the compiler search each of the packages listed for a class matching the one you used. While this time can be small, it adds up for large projects.

A side affect of the *-import was that developers would copy and paste common import lines rather than think about what they needed.

Redirecting new tab on button click.(Response.Redirect) in asp.net C#

You have to add following in header:

<script type="text/javascript">
        function fixform() {
            if (opener.document.getElementById("aspnetForm").target != "_blank") return;

            opener.document.getElementById("aspnetForm").target = "";
            opener.document.getElementById("aspnetForm").action = opener.location.href;
            }
</script>

Then call fixform() in load your page.

How to change the font color in the textbox in C#?

RichTextBox will allow you to use html to specify the color. Another alternative is using a listbox and using the DrawItem event to draw how you would like. AFAIK, textbox itself can't be used in the way you're hoping.

Javascript onclick hide div

How can I format a String number to have commas and round?

Given this is the number one Google result for format number commas java, here's an answer that works for people who are working with whole numbers and don't care about decimals.

String.format("%,d", 2000000)

outputs:

2,000,000

How to parse json string in Android?

Use JSON classes for parsing e.g

JSONObject mainObject = new JSONObject(Your_Sring_data);
JSONObject uniObject = mainObject.getJSONObject("university");
String  uniName = uniObject.getString("name");
String uniURL = uniObject.getString("url");

JSONObject oneObject = mainObject.getJSONObject("1");
String id = oneObject.getString("id");
....

Your configuration specifies to merge with the <branch name> from the remote, but no such ref was fetched.?

I was facing the same issue where my current branch was dev and I was checking out to MR branch and doing git pull thereafter. An easy workaround that I took was I created a new folder for MR Branch and did git pull there followed by git clone.

So basically I maintained different folders for pushing code to different branch.

How can I get javascript to read from a .json file?

Actually, you are looking for the AJAX CALL, in which you will replace the URL parameter value with the link of the JSON file to get the JSON values.

$.ajax({
    url: "File.json", //the path of the file is replaced by File.json
    dataType: "json",
    success: function (response) {
        console.log(response); //it will return the json array
    }
});

PostgreSQL: days/months/years between two dates

I spent some time looking for the best answer, and I think I have it.

This sql will give you the number of days between two dates as integer:

SELECT
    (EXTRACT(epoch from age('2017-6-15', now())) / 86400)::int

..which, when run today (2017-3-28), provides me with:

?column?
------------
77

The misconception about the accepted answer:

select age('2010-04-01', '2012-03-05'),
   date_part('year',age('2010-04-01', '2012-03-05')),
   date_part('month',age('2010-04-01', '2012-03-05')),
   date_part('day',age('2010-04-01', '2012-03-05'));

..is that you will get the literal difference between the parts of the date strings, not the amount of time between the two dates.

I.E:

Age(interval)=-1 years -11 mons -4 days;

Years(double precision)=-1;

Months(double precision)=-11;

Days(double precision)=-4;

How to change ProgressBar's progress indicator color in Android

I copied this from one of my apps, so there's prob a few extra attributes, but should give you the idea. This is from the layout that has the progress bar:

<ProgressBar
    android:id="@+id/ProgressBar"
    style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleHorizontal"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:indeterminate="false"
    android:maxHeight="10dip"
    android:minHeight="10dip"
    android:progress="50"
    android:progressDrawable="@drawable/greenprogress" />

Then create a new drawable with something similar to the following (In this case greenprogress.xml):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:id="@android:id/background">
        <shape>
            <corners android:radius="5dip" />
            <gradient
                android:angle="270"
                android:centerColor="#ff5a5d5a"
                android:centerY="0.75"
                android:endColor="#ff747674"
                android:startColor="#ff9d9e9d" />
        </shape>
    </item>

    <item android:id="@android:id/secondaryProgress">
        <clip>
            <shape>
                <corners android:radius="5dip" />
                <gradient
                    android:angle="270"
                    android:centerColor="#80ffb600"
                    android:centerY="0.75"
                    android:endColor="#a0ffcb00"
                    android:startColor="#80ffd300" />
            </shape>
        </clip>
    </item>
    <item android:id="@android:id/progress">
        <clip>
            <shape>
                <corners android:radius="5dip" />
                <gradient
                    android:angle="270"
                    android:endColor="#008000"
                    android:startColor="#33FF33" />
            </shape>
        </clip>
    </item>

</layer-list>

You can change up the colors as needed, this will give you a green progress bar.

How do I resolve "Cannot find module" error using Node.js?

I experienced this error yesterday. Took me a while to realise that the main entry in package.json was pointing to a file that I'd moved. Once I updated that the error disappeared and the package worked.

Java JSON serialization - best practice

As others have hinted, you should consider dumping org.json's library. It's pretty much obsolete these days, and trying to work around its problems is waste of time.

But to specific question; type variable T just does not have any information to help you, as it is little more than compile-time information. Instead you need to pass actual class (as 'Class cls' argument), and you can then create an instance with 'cls.newInstance()'.

figure of imshow() is too small

I'm new to python too. Here is something that looks like will do what you want to

axes([0.08, 0.08, 0.94-0.08, 0.94-0.08]) #[left, bottom, width, height]
axis('scaled')`

I believe this decides the size of the canvas.

Java 6 Unsupported major.minor version 51.0

I ran into the same problem. I use jdk 1.8 and maven 3.3.9 Once I export JAVA_HOME, I did not see this error. export JAVA_HOME=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_121.jdk/Contents/Home/

Java 8 stream map to list of keys sorted by values

You have to sort with a custom comparator based on the value of the entry. Then select all the keys before collecting

countByType.entrySet()
           .stream()
           .sorted((e1, e2) -> e1.getValue().compareTo(e2.getValue())) // custom Comparator
           .map(e -> e.getKey())
           .collect(Collectors.toList());

Push Notifications in Android Platform

I'm afraid you've found both possible methods. Google was, at least initially, going to implement a GChat api you could use for a push/pull implementation. Sadly, that library was cut by Android 1.0.

Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed. - when following mvc3 asp.net tutorial

I was able to solve a problem similar to this in Visual Studio 2010 by using NuGet.

Go to Tools > Library Package Manager > Manage NuGet Packages For Solution...

In the dialog, search for "EntityFramework.SqlServerCompact". You'll find a package with the description "Allows SQL Server Compact 4.0 to be used with Entity Framework." Install this package.

An element similar to the following will be inserted in your web.config:

<entityFramework>
  <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.SqlCeConnectionFactory, EntityFramework">
    <parameters>
      <parameter value="System.Data.SqlServerCe.4.0" />
    </parameters>
  </defaultConnectionFactory>
</entityFramework>

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException on working app

I have same problem in android os version 4.1.2

add below line to your AndroidManifest.xml below android:label="@string/app_name" in application tag

android:name="android.support.multidex.MultiDexApplication"

This may help some one with same problem.

SSH to Elastic Beanstalk instance

If you have set up the CLI using eb init to your environment then it should be as simple as

eb ssh --setup which will allow you to create a new key pair or use an existing one if one exists.

You may also be able to just connect to the existing environment with eb use although I have not done that.

For details on installing the CLI - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/console/elasticbeanstalk/eb-cli-install

BAT file to map to network drive without running as admin

This .vbs code creates a .bat file with the current mapped network drives. Then, just put the created file into the machine which you want to re-create the mappings and double-click it. It will try to create all mappings using the same drive letters (errors can occur if any letter is in use). This method also can be used as a backup of the current mappings. Save the code bellow as a .vbs file (e.g. Mappings.vbs) and double-click it.

Javascript change font color

Don't use <font color=. It's a really old fashioned way to style text and some browsers even don't even support it anymore.

caniuse lists it as obsolete, and strongly recommends not using the <font> tag. The same is with MDN

Do not use this element! Though once normalized in HTML 3.2, it was deprecated in HTML 4.01, at the same time as all elements related to styling only, then obsoleted in HTML5.

Starting with HTML 4, HTML does not convey styling information anymore (outside the element or the style attribute of each element). For any new web development, styling should be written using CSS only.

The former behavior of the element can be achieved, and even better controlled using the CSS Fonts CSS properties.

If we look at when the 4.01 standard was published we see it was published in 1999

published html5 standard

where <font> was officially deprecated, meaning it is still supported but shouldn't be used anymore as it will go away in the newer standard.

And in the html5 standard released in August 2014 it was deemed obsolete and non conforming.

To achieve the desired effect use spans and css:

_x000D_
_x000D_
function givemecolor(thecolor,thetext)
{
    return '<span style="color:'+thecolor+'">'+thetext+'</span>';
}
document.write(givemecolor('green',"Hello, I'm green"));
document.write(givemecolor('red',"Hello, I'm red"));
_x000D_
body {
  background: #333;
  color: #eee;
}

update

This question and answer are from 2012 and now I wouldn't recommend using document.write as it needs to be executed when the document is rendered first time. I had used it back then because I assumed OP was wishing to use it in such a way. I'd recommend using a more conventional way to insert the custom elements you wish to use, at the place you wish to insert them, without relying on document rendering and when and where the script is executed.

Native:

_x000D_
_x000D_
function givemecolor(thecolor,thetext)

    var span = document.createElement('span');
    span.style.color = thecolor;
    span.innerText = thetext;
    return span;
}
var container = document.getElementById('textholder');
container.append(givemecolor('green', "Hello I'm green"));
container.append(givemecolor('red', "Hello I'm red"));
_x000D_
body {
 background: #333;
 color: #eee;
}

How do you add an in-app purchase to an iOS application?

Just translate Jojodmo code to Swift:

class InAppPurchaseManager: NSObject , SKProductsRequestDelegate, SKPaymentTransactionObserver{

//If you have more than one in-app purchase, you can define both of
//of them here. So, for example, you could define both kRemoveAdsProductIdentifier
//and kBuyCurrencyProductIdentifier with their respective product ids
//
//for this example, we will only use one product

let kRemoveAdsProductIdentifier = "put your product id (the one that we just made in iTunesConnect) in here"

@IBAction func tapsRemoveAds() {

    NSLog("User requests to remove ads")

    if SKPaymentQueue.canMakePayments() {
        NSLog("User can make payments")

        //If you have more than one in-app purchase, and would like
        //to have the user purchase a different product, simply define
        //another function and replace kRemoveAdsProductIdentifier with
        //the identifier for the other product
        let set : Set<String> = [kRemoveAdsProductIdentifier]
        let productsRequest = SKProductsRequest(productIdentifiers: set)
        productsRequest.delegate = self
        productsRequest.start()

    }
    else {
        NSLog("User cannot make payments due to parental controls")
        //this is called the user cannot make payments, most likely due to parental controls
    }
}

func purchase(product : SKProduct) {

    let payment = SKPayment(product: product)

The problem is that jQuery doesn't trigger the native click event for <a> elements so that navigation doesn't happen (the normal behavior of an <a>), so you need to do that manually. For almost all other scenarios, the native DOM event is triggered (at least attempted to - it's in a try/catch).

To trigger it manually, try:

var a = $("<a>")
    .attr("href", "http://i.stack.imgur.com/L8rHf.png")
    .attr("download", "img.png")
    .appendTo("body");

a[0].click();

a.remove();

How to set the initial zoom/width for a webview

I figured out why the portrait view wasn't totally filling the viewport. At least in my case, it was because the scrollbar was always showing. In addition to the viewport code above, try adding this:

    browser.setScrollBarStyle(WebView.SCROLLBARS_OUTSIDE_OVERLAY);
    browser.setScrollbarFadingEnabled(false);

This causes the scrollbar to not take up layout space, and allows the webpage to fill the viewport.

Hope this helps

How to check version of python modules?

module.__version__ is a good first thing to try, but it doesn't always work.

If you don't want to shell out, and you're using pip 8 or 9, you can still use pip.get_installed_distributions() to get versions from within Python:

update: the solution here works in pip 8 and 9, but in pip 10 the function has been moved from pip.get_installed_distributions to pip._internal.utils.misc.get_installed_distributions to explicitly indicate that it's not for external use. It's not a good idea to rely on it if you're using pip 10+.

import pip

pip.get_installed_distributions()  # -> [distribute 0.6.16 (...), ...]

[
    pkg.key + ': ' + pkg.version
    for pkg in pip.get_installed_distributions()
    if pkg.key in ['setuptools', 'statlib', 'construct']
] # -> nicely filtered list of ['setuptools: 3.3', ...]

How do you add Boost libraries in CMakeLists.txt?

Put this in your CMakeLists.txt file (change any options from OFF to ON if you want):

set(Boost_USE_STATIC_LIBS OFF)
set(Boost_USE_MULTITHREADED ON)
set(Boost_USE_STATIC_RUNTIME OFF)
find_package(Boost 1.45.0 COMPONENTS *boost libraries here*)

if(Boost_FOUND)
    include_directories(${Boost_INCLUDE_DIRS})
    add_executable(progname file1.cxx file2.cxx)
    target_link_libraries(progname ${Boost_LIBRARIES})
endif()

Obviously you need to put the libraries you want where I put *boost libraries here*. For example, if you're using the filesystem and regex library you'd write:

find_package(Boost 1.45.0 COMPONENTS filesystem regex)

SSL "Peer Not Authenticated" error with HttpClient 4.1

This is thrown when

... the peer was not able to identify itself (for example; no certificate, the particular cipher suite being used does not support authentication, or no peer authentication was established during SSL handshaking) this exception is thrown.

Probably the cause of this exception (where is the stacktrace) will show you why this exception is thrown. Most likely the default keystore shipped with Java does not contain (and trust) the root certificate of the TTP that is being used.

The answer is to retrieve the root certificate (e.g. from your browsers SSL connection), import it into the cacerts file and trust it using keytool which is shipped by the Java JDK. Otherwise you will have to assign another trust store programmatically.

Static link of shared library function in gcc

If you have the .a file of your shared library (.so) you can simply include it with its full path as if it was an object file, like this:

This generates main.o by just compiling:

gcc -c main.c

This links that object file with the corresponding static library and creates the executable (named "main"):

gcc main.o mylibrary.a -o main

Or in a single command:

gcc main.c mylibrary.a -o main

It could also be an absolute or relative path:

gcc main.c /usr/local/mylibs/mylibrary.a -o main

How can I break up this long line in Python?

Personally I dislike hanging open blocks, so I'd format it as:

logger.info(
    'Skipping {0} because its thumbnail was already in our system as {1}.'
    .format(line[indexes['url']], video.title)
)

In general I wouldn't bother struggle too hard to make code fit exactly within a 80-column line. It's worth keeping line length down to reasonable levels, but the hard 80 limit is a thing of the past.

AJAX in Chrome sending OPTIONS instead of GET/POST/PUT/DELETE?

Chrome is preflighting the request to look for CORS headers. If the request is acceptable, it will then send the real request. If you're doing this cross-domain, you will simply have to deal with it or else find a way to make the request non-cross-domain. This is why the jQuery bug was closed as won't-fix. This is by design.

Unlike simple requests (discussed above), "preflighted" requests first send an HTTP request by the OPTIONS method to the resource on the other domain, in order to determine whether the actual request is safe to send. Cross-site requests are preflighted like this since they may have implications to user data. In particular, a request is preflighted if:

  • It uses methods other than GET, HEAD or POST. Also, if POST is used to send request data with a Content-Type other than application/x-www-form-urlencoded, multipart/form-data, or text/plain, e.g. if the POST request sends an XML payload to the server using application/xml or text/xml, then the request is preflighted.
  • It sets custom headers in the request (e.g. the request uses a header such as X-PINGOTHER)

Strange Characters in database text: Ã, Ã, ¢, â‚ €,

Apply these two things.

  1. You need to set the character set of your database to be utf8.

  2. You need to call the mysql_set_charset('utf8') in the file where you made the connection with the database and right after the selection of database like mysql_select_db use the mysql_set_charset. That will allow you to add and retrieve data properly in whatever the language.

How to convert this var string to URL in Swift

In swift 3 use:

let url = URL(string: "Whatever url you have(eg: https://google.com)")

HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

Just looking at the message it sounds like one or more of the components that you reference, or one or more of their dependencies is not registered properly.

If you know which component it is you can use regsvr32.exe to register it, just open a command prompt, go to the directory where the component is and type regsvr32 filename.dll (assuming it's a dll), if it works, try to run the code again otherwise come back here with the error.

If you don't know which component it is, try re-installing/repairing the GIS software (I assume you've installed some GIS software that includes the component you're trying to use).

@RequestParam in Spring MVC handling optional parameters

You need to give required = false for name and password request parameters as well. That's because, when you provide just the logout parameter, it actually expects for name and password as well as they are still mandatory.

It worked when you just gave name and password because logout wasn't a mandatory parameter thanks to required = false already given for logout.

What is the difference between npm install and npm run build?

  • npm install installs the depedendencies in your package.json config.
  • npm run build runs the script "build" and created a script which runs your application - let's say server.js
  • npm start runs the "start" script which will then be "node server.js"

It's difficult to tell exactly what the issue was but basically if you look at your scripts configuration, I would guess that "build" uses some kind of build tool to create your application while "start" assumes the build has been done but then fails if the file is not there.

You are probably using bower or grunt - I seem to remember that a typical grunt application will have defined those scripts as well as a "clean" script to delete the last build.

Build tools tend to create a file in a bin/, dist/, or build/ folder which the start script then calls - e.g. "node build/server.js". When your npm start fails, it is probably because you called npm clean or similar to delete the latest build so your application file is not present causing npm start to fail.

npm build's source code - to touch on the discussion in this question - is in github for you to have a look at if you like. If you run npm build directly and you have a "build" script defined, it will exit with an error asking you to call your build script as npm run-script build so it's not the same as npm run script.

I'm not quite sure what npm build does, but it seems to be related to postinstall and packaging scripts in dependencies. I assume that this might be making sure that any CLI build scripts's or native libraries required by dependencies are built for the specific environment after downloading the package. This will be why link and install call this script.

AssertContains on strings in jUnit

I've tried out many answers on this page, none really worked:

  • org.hamcrest.CoreMatchers.containsString does not compile, cannot resolve method.
  • JUnitMatchers.containsString is depricated (and refers to CoreMatchers.containsString).
  • org.hamcrest.Matchers.containsString: NoSuchMethodError

So instead of writing readable code, I decided to use the simple and workable approach mentioned in the question instead.

Hopefully another solution will come up.

Simple way to transpose columns and rows in SQL?

I was able to use Paco Zarate's solution and it works beautifully. I did have to add one line ("SET ANSI_WARNINGS ON"), but that may be something unique to the way I used it or called it. There is a problem with my usage and I hope someone can help me with it:

The solution works only with an actual SQL table. I tried it with a temporary table and also an in-memory (declared) table but it doesn't work with those. So in my calling code I create a table on my SQL database and then call SQLTranspose. Again, it works great. It's just what I want. Here's my problem:

In order for the overall solution to be truly dynamic I need to create that table where I temporarily store the prepared information that I'm sending to SQLTranspose "on the fly", and then delete that table once SQLTranspose is called. The table deletion is presenting a problem with my ultimate implementation plan. The code needs to run from an end-user application (a button on a Microsoft Access form/menu). When I use this SQL process (create a SQL table, call SQLTranspose, delete SQL table) the end user application hits an error because the SQL account used does not have the rights to drop a table.

So I figure there are a few possible solutions:

  1. Find a way to make SQLTranspose work with a temporary table or a declared table variable.

  2. Figure out another method for the transposition of rows and columns that doesn't require an actual SQL table.

  3. Figure out an appropriate method of allowing the SQL account used by my end users to drop a table. It's a single shared SQL account coded into my Access application. It appears that permission is a dbo-type privilege that cannot be granted.

I recognize that some of this may warrant another, separate thread and question. However, since there is a possibility that one solution may be simply a different way to do the transposing of rows and columns I'll make my first post here in this thread.

EDIT: I also did replace sum(value) with max(value) in the 6th line from the end, as Paco suggested.

EDIT:

I figured out something that works for me. I don't know if it's the best answer or not.

I have a read-only user account that is used to execute strored procedures and therefore generate reporting output from a database. Since the SQLTranspose function I created will only work with a "legitimate" table (not a declared table and not a temporary table) I had to figure out a way for a read-only user account to create (and then later delete) a table.

I reasoned that for my purposes it's okay for the user account to be allowed to create a table. The user still could not delete the table though. My solution was to create a schema where the user account is authorized. Then whenever I create, use, or delete that table refer it with the schema specified.

I first issued this command from a 'sa' or 'sysadmin' account: CREATE SCHEMA ro AUTHORIZATION

When any time I refer to my "tmpoutput" table I specify it like this example:

drop table ro.tmpoutput

auto create database in Entity Framework Core

For EF Core 2.0+ I had to take a different approach because they changed the API. As of March 2019 Microsoft recommends you put your database migration code in your application entry class but outside of the WebHost build code.

public class Program
{
    public static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        var host = CreateWebHostBuilder(args).Build();
        using (var serviceScope = host.Services.CreateScope())
        {
            var context = serviceScope.ServiceProvider.GetRequiredService<PersonContext>();
            context.Database.Migrate();
        }
        host.Run();
    }

    public static IWebHostBuilder CreateWebHostBuilder(string[] args) =>
        WebHost.CreateDefaultBuilder(args)
            .UseStartup<Startup>();
}

Javascript callback when IFRAME is finished loading?

I wanted to hide the waiting spinner div when the i frame content is fully loaded on IE, i tried literally every solution mentioned in Stackoverflow.Com, but with nothing worked as i wanted.

Then i had an idea, that when the i frame content is fully loaded, the $(Window ) load event might be fired. And that exactly what happened. So, i wrote this small script, and worked like magic:

     $(window).load(function () {
     //alert("Done window ready ");
     var lblWait = document.getElementById("lblWait");
     if (lblWait != null ) {
         lblWait.style.visibility = "false";
         document.getElementById("divWait").style.display = "none";
     }
 });

Hope this helps.

How to compare two strings are equal in value, what is the best method?

You should use some form of the String#equals(Object) method. However, there is some subtlety in how you should do it:

If you have a string literal then you should use it like this:

"Hello".equals(someString);

This is because the string literal "Hello" can never be null, so you will never run into a NullPointerException.

If you have a string and another object then you should use:

myString.equals(myObject);

You can make sure you are actually getting string equality by doing this. For all you know, myObject could be of a class that always returns true in its equals method!

Start with the object less likely to be null because this:

String foo = null;
String bar = "hello";
foo.equals(bar);

will throw a NullPointerException, but this:

String foo = null;
String bar = "hello";
bar.equals(foo);

will not. String#equals(Object) will correctly handle the case when its parameter is null, so you only need to worry about the object you are dereferencing--the first object.

Display only 10 characters of a long string?

And here's a jQuery example:

HTML text field:

<input type="text" id="myTextfield" />

jQuery code to limit its size:

var elem = $("#myTextfield");
if(elem) elem.val(elem.val().substr(0,10));

As an example, you could use the jQuery code above to restrict the user from entering more than 10 characters while he's typing; the following code snippet does exactly this:

$(document).ready(function() {
    var elem = $("#myTextfield");
    if (elem) {
        elem.keydown(function() {
            if (elem.val().length > 10)
                elem.val(elem.val().substr(0, 10));
        });
    }
});

Update: The above code snippet was only used to show an example usage.

The following code snippet will handle you issue with the DIV element:

$(document).ready(function() {
    var elem = $(".tasks-overflow");
    if(elem){
        if (elem.text().length > 10)
                elem.text(elem.text().substr(0,10))
    }
});

Please note that I'm using text instead of val in this case, since the val method doesn't seem to work with the DIV element.

Passing just a type as a parameter in C#

foo.GetColumnValues(dm.mainColumn, typeof(string))

Alternatively, you could use a generic method:

public void GetColumnValues<T>(object mainColumn)
{
    GetColumnValues(mainColumn, typeof(T));
}

and you could then use it like:

foo.GetColumnValues<string>(dm.mainColumn);

Get unique values from a list in python

In addition to the previous answers, which say you can convert your list to set, you can do that in this way too

mylist = [u'nowplaying', u'PBS', u'PBS', u'nowplaying', u'job', u'debate', u'thenadnow']
mylist = [i for i in set(mylist)]

output will be

[u'nowplaying', u'job', u'debate', u'PBS', u'thenadnow']

though order will not be preserved.

Another simpler answer could be (without using sets)

>>> t = [v for i,v in enumerate(mylist) if mylist.index(v) == i]
[u'nowplaying', u'PBS', u'job', u'debate', u'thenadnow']

Using arrays or std::vectors in C++, what's the performance gap?

Go with STL. There's no performance penalty. The algorithms are very efficient and they do a good job of handling the kinds of details that most of us would not think about.

How to get an input text value in JavaScript

The reason that this doesn't work is because the variable doesn't change with the textbox. When it initially runs the code it gets the value of the textbox, but afterwards it isn't ever called again. However, when you define the variable in the function, every time that you call the function the variable updates. Then it alerts the variable which is now equal to the textbox's input.

Resolving MSB3247 - Found conflicts between different versions of the same dependent assembly

A simplest way without without one taking into account of (internal) dependencies :

  1. Open "Solution Explorer".
  2. Click on "Show all files"
  3. Expand "References"
  4. You'll see one (or more) reference(s) with slightly different icon than the rest. Typically, it is with yellow box suggesting you to take a note of it. Just remove it.
  5. Add the reference back and compile your code.
  6. That's all.

In my case, there was a problem with MySQL reference. Somehow, I could list three versions of it under the list of all available references. I followed process 1 through 6 above and it worked for me.

Now you can generate a character at one time of calling.

How to get the device's IMEI/ESN programmatically in android?

You'll need the following permission in your AndroidManifest.xml:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE" />

To get IMEI (international mobile equipment identifier) and if It is above API level 26 then we get telephonyManager.getImei() as null so for that, we use ANDROID_ID as a Unique Identifier.

 public static String getIMEINumber(@NonNull final Context context)
            throws SecurityException, NullPointerException {
        TelephonyManager tm = (TelephonyManager) context.getSystemService(Context.TELEPHONY_SERVICE);
        String imei;
        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
            assert tm != null;
            imei = tm.getImei();
            //this change is for Android 10 as per security concern it will not provide the imei number.
            if (imei == null) {
                imei = Settings.Secure.getString(context.getContentResolver(), Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID);
            }
        } else {
            assert tm != null;
            if (tm.getDeviceId() != null && !tm.getDeviceId().equals("000000000000000")) {
                imei = tm.getDeviceId();
            } else {
                imei = Settings.Secure.getString(context.getContentResolver(), Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID);
            }
        }

        return imei;
    }

I have many sites with this issue & finally found a fix to firefox fonts being thicker than chrome.

You need this line next to your -webkit fix -moz-osx-font-smoothing: grayscale;

Installing Python packages from local file system folder to virtualenv with pip

From the installing-packages page you can simply run:

pip install /srv/pkg/mypackage

where /srv/pkg/mypackage is the directory, containing setup.py.

Additionally1, you can install it from the archive file:

pip install ./mypackage-1.0.4.tar.gz

1 Although noted in the question, due to its popularity, it is also included.

How to redirect verbose garbage collection output to a file?

If in addition you want to pipe the output to a separate file, you can do:

On a Sun JVM:

-Xloggc:C:\whereever\jvm.log -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCDateStamps

ON an IBM JVM:

-Xverbosegclog:C:\whereever\jvm.log

Wait until flag=true

Because javascript in a browser is single threaded (except for webworkers which aren't involved here) and one thread of javascript execution runs to completion before another can run, your statement:

while(flag==false) {}

will simply run forever (or until the browser complains about a non-responsive javascript loop), the page will appear to be hung and no other javascript will ever get a chance to run, thus the flag's value can never be changed.

For a little more explanation, Javascript is an event driven language. That means that it runs a piece of Javascript until it returns control back to the interpreter. Then, only when it returns back to the interpreter, Javascript gets the next event from the event queue and runs it.

All things like timers and network events run through the event queue. So, when a timer fires or a network request arrives, it does not ever "interrupt" the currently running Javascript. Instead, an event gets put in the Javascript event queue and then, when the currently running Javascript finishes, the next event is pulled from the event queue and it gets its turn to run.

So, when you do an infinite loop such as while(flag==false) {}, the currently running Javascript never finishes and thus the next event is never pulled from the event queue and thus the value of flag never gets changed. They key here is that Javascript is not interrupt driven. When a timer fires, it does not interrupt the currently running Javascript, run some other Javascript and then let the currently running Javascript continue. It just gets put in the event queue waiting until the currently running Javascript is done to get its turn to run.

What you need to do is rethink how your code works and find a different way to trigger whatever code you want to run when the flag value changes. Javascript is designed as an event-driven language. So, what you need to do is figure out what events you can register an interest in so you can either listen for the event that might cause the flag to change and you can examine the flag on that event or you can trigger your own event from whatever code might change the flag or you can implement a callback function that whatever code changes that flag can call your callback whenever the piece of code responsible for changing the flag value would change it's value to true, it just calls the callback function and thus your code that wants to run when the flag gets set to true will get to run at the right time. This is much, much more efficient than trying to use some sort of timer to constantly check the flag value.

function codeThatMightChangeFlag(callback) {
    // do a bunch of stuff
    if (condition happens to change flag value) {
        // call the callback to notify other code
        callback();
    }
}

Vertical and horizontal align (middle and center) with CSS

There are many methods :

  1. Center horizontal and vertical align of an element with fixed measure

CSS

 <div style="width:200px;height:100px;position:absolute;left:50%;top:50%;
margin-left:-100px;margin-top:-50px;">
<!–content–>
</div>

2 . Center horizontally and vertically a single line of text

CSS

<div style="width:400px;height:200px;text-align:center;line-height:200px;">
<!–content–>
</div>

3 . Center horizontal and vertical align of an element with no specific measure

CSS

<div style="display:table;height:300px;text-align:center;">
<div style="display:table-cell;vertical-align:middle;">
<!–content–>
</div>
</div>

Socket send and receive byte array

There is a JDK socket tutorial here, which covers both the server and client end. That looks exactly like what you want.

(from that tutorial) This sets up to read from an echo server:

    echoSocket = new Socket("taranis", 7);
    out = new PrintWriter(echoSocket.getOutputStream(), true);
    in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(
                                echoSocket.getInputStream()));

taking a stream of bytes and converts to strings via the reader and using a default encoding (not advisable, normally).

Error handling and closing sockets/streams omitted from the above, but check the tutorial.

ASP.NET MVC Yes/No Radio Buttons with Strongly Bound Model MVC

I ended up packaging this into an extension method so (1) I could generate the label and radio at once and (2) so I didn't have to fuss with specifying my own IDs:

public static class HtmlHelperExtensions
{
    public static MvcHtmlString RadioButtonAndLabelFor<TModel, TProperty>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> self, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression, bool value, string labelText)
    {
        // Retrieve the qualified model identifier
        string name = ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expression);
        string fullName = self.ViewContext.ViewData.TemplateInfo.GetFullHtmlFieldName(name);

        // Generate the base ID
        TagBuilder tagBuilder = new TagBuilder("input");
        tagBuilder.GenerateId(fullName);
        string idAttr = tagBuilder.Attributes["id"];

        // Create an ID specific to the boolean direction
        idAttr = String.Format("{0}_{1}", idAttr, value);

        // Create the individual HTML elements, using the generated ID
        MvcHtmlString radioButton = self.RadioButtonFor(expression, value, new { id = idAttr });
        MvcHtmlString label = self.Label(idAttr, labelText);

        return new MvcHtmlString(radioButton.ToHtmlString() + label.ToHtmlString());
    }
}

Usage:

@Html.RadioButtonAndLabelFor(m => m.IsMarried, true, "Yes, I am married")

how to call service method from ng-change of select in angularjs?

You have at least two issues in your code:

  • ng-change="getScoreData(Score)

    Angular doesn't see getScoreData method that refers to defined service

  • getScoreData: function (Score, callback)

    We don't need to use callback since GET returns promise. Use then instead.

Here is a working example (I used random address only for simulation):

HTML

<select ng-model="score"
        ng-change="getScoreData(score)"
        ng-options="score as score.name for score in  scores"></select>
    <pre>{{ScoreData|json}}</pre>

JS

var fessmodule = angular.module('myModule', ['ngResource']);

fessmodule.controller('fessCntrl', function($scope, ScoreDataService) {

    $scope.scores = [{
        name: 'Bukit Batok Street 1',
        URL: 'http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Singapore, SG, Singapore, 153 Bukit Batok Street 1&sensor=true'
    }, {
        name: 'London 8',
        URL: 'http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Singapore, SG, Singapore, London 8&sensor=true'
    }];

    $scope.getScoreData = function(score) {
        ScoreDataService.getScoreData(score).then(function(result) {
            $scope.ScoreData = result;
        }, function(result) {
            alert("Error: No data returned");
        });
    };

});

fessmodule.$inject = ['$scope', 'ScoreDataService'];

fessmodule.factory('ScoreDataService', ['$http', '$q', function($http) {

    var factory = {
        getScoreData: function(score) {
            console.log(score);
            var data = $http({
                method: 'GET',
                url: score.URL
            });

            return data;
        }
    }
    return factory;
}]);

A TypeScript GUID class?

There is an implementation in my TypeScript utilities based on JavaScript GUID generators.

Here is the code:

_x000D_
_x000D_
class Guid {_x000D_
  static newGuid() {_x000D_
    return 'xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx'.replace(/[xy]/g, function(c) {_x000D_
      var r = Math.random() * 16 | 0,_x000D_
        v = c == 'x' ? r : (r & 0x3 | 0x8);_x000D_
      return v.toString(16);_x000D_
    });_x000D_
  }_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
// Example of a bunch of GUIDs_x000D_
for (var i = 0; i < 100; i++) {_x000D_
  var id = Guid.newGuid();_x000D_
  console.log(id);_x000D_
}
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Please note the following:

C# GUIDs are guaranteed to be unique. This solution is very likely to be unique. There is a huge gap between "very likely" and "guaranteed" and you don't want to fall through this gap.

JavaScript-generated GUIDs are great to use as a temporary key that you use while waiting for a server to respond, but I wouldn't necessarily trust them as the primary key in a database. If you are going to rely on a JavaScript-generated GUID, I would be tempted to check a register each time a GUID is created to ensure you haven't got a duplicate (an issue that has come up in the Chrome browser in some cases).

MVC 4 @Scripts "does not exist"

I am using areas, and have just come up against this issue, I just copied the namespaces from the root web.config to the areas web. config and it now works!!

    <add namespace="System.Web.Helpers" />
    <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc" />
    <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Ajax" />
    <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Html" />
    <add namespace="System.Web.Optimization" />
    <add namespace="System.Web.Routing" />
    <add namespace="System.Web.WebPages" />

Python concatenate text files

Use shutil.copyfileobj.

It automatically reads the input files chunk by chunk for you, which is more more efficient and reading the input files in and will work even if some of the input files are too large to fit into memory:

import shutil

with open('output_file.txt','wb') as wfd:
    for f in ['seg1.txt','seg2.txt','seg3.txt']:
        with open(f,'rb') as fd:
            shutil.copyfileobj(fd, wfd)

Linux find and grep command together

Now that the question is clearer, you can just do this in one

grep -R --include "*bills*" "put" .

With relevant flags

   -R, -r, --recursive
          Read all files under each directory, recursively; this is
          equivalent to the -d recurse option.
   --include=GLOB
          Search only files whose base name matches GLOB (using wildcard
          matching as described under --exclude).

Operation Not Permitted when on root - El Capitan (rootless disabled)

Correct solution is to copy or install to /usr/local/bin not /usr/bin.This is due to System Integrity Protection (SIP). SIP makes /usr/bin read-only but leaves /usr/local as read-write.

SIP should not be disabled as stated in the answer above because it adds another layer of protection against malware gaining root access. Here is a complete explanation of what SIP does and why it is useful.

As suggested in this answer one should not disable SIP (rootless mode) "It is not recommended to disable rootless mode! The best practice is to install custom stuff to "/usr/local" only."

How to start nginx via different port(other than 80)

You will need to change the configure port of either Apache or Nginx. After you do this you will need to restart the reconfigured servers, using the 'service' command you used.

Apache

Edit

sudo subl /etc/apache2/ports.conf

and change the 80 on the following line to something different :

Listen 80

If you just change the port or add more ports here, you will likely also have to change the VirtualHost statement in

sudo subl /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.conf

and change the 80 on the following line to something different :

<VirtualHost *:80>

then restart by :

sudo service apache2 restart

Nginx

Edit

/etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default

and change the 80 on the following line :

listen 80;

then restart by :

sudo service nginx restart

How to schedule a function to run every hour on Flask?

You may use flask-crontab module, which is quite easy.

Step 1: pip install flask-crontab

Step 2:

from flask import Flask
from flask_crontab import Crontab

app = Flask(__name__)
crontab = Crontab(app)

Step 3:

@crontab.job(minute="0", hour="6", day="*", month="*", day_of_week="*")
def my_scheduled_job():
    do_something()

Step 4: On cmd, hit

flask crontab add

Done. now simply run your flask application, and you can check your function will call at 6:00 every day.

Angular 2 - Redirect to an external URL and open in a new tab

you can do like this in your typescript code

onNavigate(){
var location="https://google.com",
}

In your html code add an anchor tag and pass that variable(location)

<a href="{{location}}" target="_blank">Redirect Location</a>

Suppose you have url like this www.google.com without http and you are not getting redirected to the given url then add http:// to the location like this

var location = 'http://'+ www.google.com

Enter key pressed event handler

You can also use PreviewKeyDown in WPF:

<TextBox PreviewKeyDown="EnterClicked" />

or in C#:

myTextBox.PreviewKeyDown += EnterClicked;

And then in the attached class:

void EnterClicked(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) {
    if(e.Key == Key.Return) {
        DoSomething();
        e.Handled = true;
    }
}

pinpointing "conditional jump or move depends on uninitialized value(s)" valgrind message

What this means is that you are trying to print out/output a value which is at least partially uninitialized. Can you narrow it down so that you know exactly what value that is? After that, trace through your code to see where it is being initialized. Chances are, you will see that it is not being fully initialized.

If you need more help, posting the relevant sections of source code might allow someone to offer more guidance.

EDIT

I see you've found the problem. Note that valgrind watches for Conditional jump or move based on unitialized variables. What that means is that it will only give out a warning if the execution of the program is altered due to the uninitialized value (ie. the program takes a different branch in an if statement, for example). Since the actual arithmetic did not involve a conditional jump or move, valgrind did not warn you of that. Instead, it propagated the "uninitialized" status to the result of the statement that used it.

It may seem counterintuitive that it does not warn you immediately, but as mark4o pointed out, it does this because uninitialized values get used in C all the time (examples: padding in structures, the realloc() call, etc.) so those warnings would not be very useful due to the false positive frequency.

Using iText to convert HTML to PDF

The easiest way of doing this is using pdfHTML. It's an iText7 add-on that converts HTML5 (+CSS3) into pdf syntax.

The code is pretty straightforward:

    HtmlConverter.convertToPdf(
        "<b>This text should be written in bold.</b>", // html to be converted
        new PdfWriter(
            new File("C://users/mark/documents/output.pdf")  // destination file
        )
    );

Learning to write a compiler

From the comp.compilers FAQ:

"Programming a Personal Computer" by Per Brinch Hansen Prentice-Hall 1982 ISBN 0-13-730283-5

This unfortunately-titled book explains the design and creation of a single-user programming environment for micros, using a Pascal-like language called Edison. The author presents all source code and explanations for the step-by-step implementation of an Edison compiler and simple supporting operating system, all written in Edison itself (except for a small supporting kernel written in a symbolic assembler for PDP 11/23; the complete source can also be ordered for the IBM PC).

The most interesting things about this book are: 1) its ability to demonstrate how to create a complete, self-contained, self-maintaining, useful compiler and operating system, and 2) the interesting discussion of language design and specification problems and trade-offs in Chapter 2.

"Brinch Hansen on Pascal Compilers" by Per Brinch Hansen Prentice-Hall 1985 ISBN 0-13-083098-4

Another light-on-theory heavy-on-pragmatics here's-how-to-code-it book. The author presents the design, implementation, and complete source code for a compiler and p-code interpreter for Pascal- (Pascal "minus"), a Pascal subset with boolean and integer types (but no characters, reals, subranged or enumerated types), constant and variable definitions and array and record types (but no packed, variant, set, pointer, nameless, renamed, or file types), expressions, assignment statements, nested procedure definitions with value and variable parameters, if statements, while statements, and begin-end blocks (but no function definitions, procedural parameters, goto statements and labels, case statements, repeat statements, for statements, and with statements).

The compiler and interpreter are written in Pascal* (Pascal "star"), a Pascal subset extended with some Edison-style features for creating software development systems. A Pascal* compiler for the IBM PC is sold by the author, but it's easy to port the book's Pascal- compiler to any convenient Pascal platform.

This book makes the design and implementation of a compiler look easy. I particularly like the way the author is concerned with quality, reliability, and testing. The compiler and interpreter can easily be used as the basis for a more involved language or compiler project, especially if you're pressed to quickly get something up and running.

Creating a Shopping Cart using only HTML/JavaScript

For a project this size, you should stop writing pure JavaScript and turn to some of the libraries available. I'd recommend jQuery (http://jquery.com/), which allows you to select elements by css-selectors, which I recon should speed up your development quite a bit.

Example of your code then becomes;

function AddtoCart() {
  var len = $("#Items tr").length, $row, $inp1, $inp2, $cells;

  $row = $("#Items td:first").clone(true);
  $cells = $row.find("td");

  $cells.get(0).html( len );

  $inp1 = $cells.get(1).find("input:first");
  $inp1.attr("id", $inp1.attr("id") + len).val("");

  $inp2 = $cells.get(2).find("input:first");
  $inp2.attr("id", $inp2.attr("id") + len).val("");

  $("#Items").append($row);
    }

I can see that you might not understand that code yet, but take a look at jQuery, it's easy to learn and will make this development way faster.

I would use the libraries already created specifically for js shopping carts if I were you though.

To your problem; If i look at your jsFiddle, it doesn't even seem like you have defined a table with the id Items? Maybe that's why it doesn't work?

Why does this code using random strings print "hello world"?

It is about "seed". Same seeds give the same result.

tomcat - CATALINA_BASE and CATALINA_HOME variables

I can't say I know the best practice, but here's my perspective.

Are you using these variables for anything?

Personally, I haven't needed to change neither, on Linux nor Windows, in environments varying from development to production. Unless you are doing something particular that relies on them, chances are you could leave them alone.

catalina.sh sets the variables that Tomcat needs to work out of the box. It also says that CATALINA_BASE is optional:

# CATALINA_HOME May point at your Catalina "build" directory.
#
# CATALINA_BASE (Optional) Base directory for resolving dynamic portions
# of a Catalina installation. If not present, resolves to
# the same directory that CATALINA_HOME points to.

I'm pretty sure you'll find out whether or not your setup works when you start your server.

What does FETCH_HEAD in Git mean?

FETCH_HEAD is a short-lived ref, to keep track of what has just been fetched from the remote repository. git pull first invokes git fetch, in normal cases fetching a branch from the remote; FETCH_HEAD points to the tip of this branch (it stores the SHA1 of the commit, just as branches do). git pull then invokes git merge, merging FETCH_HEAD into the current branch.

The result is exactly what you'd expect: the commit at the tip of the appropriate remote branch is merged into the commit at the tip of your current branch.

This is a bit like doing git fetch without arguments (or git remote update), updating all your remote branches, then running git merge origin/<branch>, but using FETCH_HEAD internally instead to refer to whatever single ref was fetched, instead of needing to name things.

Checking to see if one array's elements are in another array in PHP

There's little wrong with using array_intersect() and count() (instead of empty).

For example:

$bFound = (count(array_intersect($criminals, $people))) ? true : false;

HTML5 Video // Completely Hide Controls

Like this:

<video width="300" height="200" autoplay="autoplay">
  <source src="video/supercoolvideo.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
</video>

controls is a boolean attribute:

Note: The values "true" and "false" are not allowed on boolean attributes. To represent a false value, the attribute has to be omitted altogether.

Android Studio Rendering Problems : The following classes could not be found

I faced this error when I created second activity in my project in the newly updated Android Studio,I solved it simply by copy pasting the whole xml code from first layout to the second and then I just removed the code that's unnecessary.

Why is using onClick() in HTML a bad practice?

With very large JavaScript applications, programmers are using more encapsulation of code to avoid polluting the global scope. And to make a function available to the onClick action in an HTML element, it has to be in the global scope.

You may have seen JS files that look like this...

(function(){
    ...[some code]
}());

These are Immediately Invoked Function Expressions (IIFEs) and any function declared within them will only exist within their internal scope.

If you declare function doSomething(){} within an IIFE, then make doSomething() an element's onClick action in your HTML page, you'll get an error.

If, on the other hand, you create an eventListener for that element within that IIFE and call doSomething() when the listener detects a click event, you're good because the listener and doSomething() share the IIFE's scope.

For little web apps with a minimal amount of code, it doesn't matter. But if you aspire to write large, maintainable codebases, onclick="" is a habit that you should work to avoid.

Handling back button in Android Navigation Component

If you use Navigation Component follow the codes below in your onCreateView() method (in this example I want just to close my app by this fragment)

 OnBackPressedCallback backPressedCallback = new OnBackPressedCallback(true) {
        @Override
        public void handleOnBackPressed() {
            new AlertDialog.Builder(Objects.requireNonNull(getActivity()))
                    .setIcon(R.drawable.icon_01)
                    .setTitle(getResources().getString(R.string.close_app_title))
                    .setMessage(getResources().getString(R.string.close_app_message))
                    .setPositiveButton(R.string.yes, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                        @Override
                        public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                            getActivity().finish();
                        }
                    })
                    .setNegativeButton(R.string.no, null)
                    .show();
        }
    };
    requireActivity().getOnBackPressedDispatcher().addCallback(this, backPressedCallback);

Find the last element of an array while using a foreach loop in PHP

Try this simple solution

$test = ['a' => 1, 'b' => 2, 'c' => 3];

$last_array_value = end($test);

foreach ($test as $key => $value) {
   if ($value === $last_array_value) {
      echo $value; // display the last value
   } else {
     echo $value; // display the values that are not last elements
   }

while installing vc_redist.x64.exe, getting error "Failed to configure per-machine MSU package."

I would like to give you a background on Universal CRT this would help you in understanding as to why the system should be updated before installing vc_redist.x64.exe.

  1. A large portion of the C-runtime moved into the OS in Windows 10 (ucrtbase.dll) and is serviced just like any other OS DLL (e.g. kernel32.dll). It is no longer serviced by Visual Studio directly. MSU packages are the file type for Windows Updates.
  2. In order to get the Windows 10 Universal CRT to earlier OSes, Windows Update packages were created to bring this OS component downlevel. KB2999226 brings the Windows 10 RTM Universal CRT to downlevel platforms (Windows Vista through Windows 8.1). KB3118401 brings Windows 10 November Update to the Universal CRT to downlevel platforms.
    • Windows XP (latest SP) is an exception here. Windows Servicing does not provide downlevel packages for that OS, so Visual Studio (Visual C++) provides a mechanism to install the UCRT into System32 via the VCRedist and MSMs.
  3. The Windows Universal Runtime is included in the VC Redist exe package as it has dependency on the Windows Universal Runtime (KB2999226).
  4. Windows 10 is the only OS that ships the UCRT in-box. All prior OSes obtain the UCRT via Windows Update only. This applies to all Vista->8.1 and associated Server SKUs.

For Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 the Windows Universal Runtime must be installed via KB2999226. However it has a prerequisite update KB2919355 which contains updates that facilitate installing the KB2999226 package.

Why does KB2999226 not always install when the runtime is installed from the redistributable? What could prevent KB2999226 from installing as part of the runtime?

The UCRT MSU included in the VCRedist is installed by making a call into the Windows Update service and the KB can fail to install based upon Windows Update service activity/state:

  1. If the machine has not updated to the required servicing baseline, the UCRT MSU will be viewed as being “Not Applicable”. Ensure KB2919355 is installed. Also, there were known issues with KB2919355 so before this the following hotfix should be installed. KB2939087 KB2975061
  2. If the Windows Update service is installing other updates when the VCRedist installs, you can either see long delays or errors indicating the machine is busy.
    • This one can be resolved by waiting and trying again later (which may be why installing via Windows Update UI at a later time succeeds).
  3. If the Windows Update service is in a non-ready state, you can see errors reflecting that.

    • We recently investigated a failure with an error code indicating the WUSA service was shutting down.
  4. To identify if the prerequisite KB2919355 is installed there are 2 options:

    1. Registry key: 64bit hive

      HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14
      CurrentState = 112

      32bit hive

      HKLM\SOFTWARE\[WOW6432Node\]Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.3.1.14
      CurrentState = 112

    2. Or check the file version of:

      C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wuaueng.dll
      C:\Windows\System32\wuaueng.dll

      is 7.9.9600.17031 or later

how to get data from selected row from datagridview

To get the cell value, you need to read it directly from DataGridView1 using e.RowIndex and e.ColumnIndex properties.

Eg:

Private Sub DataGridView1_CellContentClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellContentClick
   Dim value As Object = DataGridView1.Rows(e.RowIndex).Cells(e.ColumnIndex).Value

   If IsDBNull(value) Then
      TextBox1.Text = "" ' blank if dbnull values
   Else
      TextBox1.Text = CType(value, String)
   End If
End Sub

Filter Pyspark dataframe column with None value

PySpark provides various filtering options based on arithmetic, logical and other conditions. Presence of NULL values can hamper further processes. Removing them or statistically imputing them could be a choice.

Below set of code can be considered:

# Dataset is df
# Column name is dt_mvmt
# Before filtering make sure you have the right count of the dataset
df.count() # Some number

# Filter here
df = df.filter(df.dt_mvmt.isNotNull())

# Check the count to ensure there are NULL values present (This is important when dealing with large dataset)
df.count() # Count should be reduced if NULL values are present

How to concatenate properties from multiple JavaScript objects

ECMAscript 6 introduced Object.assign() to achieve this natively in Javascript.

The Object.assign() method is used to copy the values of all enumerable own properties from one or more source objects to a target object. It will return the target object.

MDN documentation on Object.assign()

_x000D_
_x000D_
var o1 = { a: 1 };_x000D_
var o2 = { b: 2 };_x000D_
var o3 = { c: 3 };_x000D_
_x000D_
var obj = Object.assign({}, o1, o2, o3);_x000D_
console.log(obj); // { a: 1, b: 2, c: 3 }

Object.assign is supported in many modern browsers but not yet all of them. Use a transpiler like Babel and Traceur to generate backwards-compatible ES5 JavaScript.

What's the reason I can't create generic array types in Java?

As others already mentioned, you can of course create via some tricks.

But it's not recommended.

Because the type erasure and more importantly the covariance in array which just allows a subtype array can be assigned to a supertype array, which forces you to use explicit type cast when trying to get the value back causing run-time ClassCastException which is one of the main objectives that generics try to eliminate: Stronger type checks at compile time.

Object[] stringArray = { "hi", "me" };
stringArray[1] = 1;
String aString = (String) stringArray[1]; // boom! the TypeCastException

A more direct example can found in Effective Java: Item 25.

covariance: an array of type S[] is a subtype of T[] if S is a subtype of T

Pagination on a list using ng-repeat

If you have not too much data, you can definitely do pagination by just storing all the data in the browser and filtering what's visible at a certain time.

Here's a simple pagination example: http://jsfiddle.net/2ZzZB/56/

That example was on the list of fiddles on the angular.js github wiki, which should be helpful: https://github.com/angular/angular.js/wiki/JsFiddle-Examples

EDIT: http://jsfiddle.net/2ZzZB/16/ to http://jsfiddle.net/2ZzZB/56/ (won't show "1/4.5" if there is 45 results)

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes)

Well try ini_set('memory_limit', '256M');

134217728 bytes = 128 MB

Or rewrite the code to consume less memory.

How to Get a Sublist in C#

With LINQ:

List<string> l = new List<string> { "1", "2", "3" ,"4","5"};
List<string> l2 = l.Skip(1).Take(2).ToList();

If you need foreach, then no need for ToList:

foreach (string s in l.Skip(1).Take(2)){}

Advantage of LINQ is that if you want to just skip some leading element,you can :

List<string> l2 = l.Skip(1).ToList();
foreach (string s in l.Skip(1)){}

i.e. no need to take care of count/length, etc.

How to get the caller's method name in the called method?

I found a way if you're going across classes and want the class the method belongs to AND the method. It takes a bit of extraction work but it makes its point. This works in Python 2.7.13.

import inspect, os

class ClassOne:
    def method1(self):
        classtwoObj.method2()

class ClassTwo:
    def method2(self):
        curframe = inspect.currentframe()
        calframe = inspect.getouterframes(curframe, 4)
        print '\nI was called from', calframe[1][3], \
        'in', calframe[1][4][0][6: -2]

# create objects to access class methods
classoneObj = ClassOne()
classtwoObj = ClassTwo()

# start the program
os.system('cls')
classoneObj.method1()

A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found... (again)

I have spent about a week solving this problem. Most of the answers are sort of magic (no logical purposes for these algorithms) and they were not useful for me. I found this error in Xcode console:

ERROR ITMS-90174: "Missing Provisioning Profile - iOS Apps must contain a provisioning profile in a file named embedded.mobileprovision."

And found this answer solving this issue. The case is to switch Xcode Build system to the Legacy one.

I was deploying my Ionic app.

How do I update pip itself from inside my virtual environment?

I tried all of these solutions mentioned above under Debian Jessie. They don't work, because it just takes the latest version compile by the debian package manager which is 1.5.6 which equates to version 6.0.x. Some packages that use pip as prerequisites will not work as a results, such as spaCy (which needs the option --no-cache-dir to function correctly).

So the actual best way to solve these problems is to run get-pip.py downloaded using wget, from the website or using curl as follows:

 wget https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py -O ./get-pip.py
 python ./get-pip.py
 python3 ./get-pip.py

This will install the current version which at the time of writing this solution is 9.0.1 which is way beyond what Debian provides.

 $ pip --version
 pip 9.0.1 from /home/myhomedir/myvirtualenvdir/lib/python2.7/dist-packages (python 2.7)
 $ pip3 --version
 pip 9.0.1 from /home/myhomedir/myvirtualenvdir/lib/python3.4/site-packages (python 3.4)

How to install a node.js module without using npm?

Download the code from github into the node_modules directory

How do you programmatically update query params in react-router?

Within the push method of hashHistory, you can specify your query parameters. For instance,

history.push({
  pathname: '/dresses',
  search: '?color=blue'
})

or

history.push('/dresses?color=blue')

You can check out this repository for additional examples on using history

Restoring MySQL database from physical files

A MySQL MyISAM table is the combination of three files:

  • The FRM file is the table definition.
  • The MYD file is where the actual data is stored.
  • The MYI file is where the indexes created on the table are stored.

You should be able to restore by copying them in your database folder (In linux, the default location is /var/lib/mysql/)

You should do it while the server is not running.

How to stop event bubbling on checkbox click

When using jQuery you do not need to call a stop function separate.

You can just return false in the event handler

This will stop the event and cancel bubbling..

Also see event.preventDefault() vs. return false

From the jQuery docs:

These handlers, therefore, may prevent the delegated handler from triggering by calling event.stopPropagation() or returning false.

How to position one element relative to another with jQuery?

Here is a jQuery function I wrote that helps me position elements.

Here is an example usage:

$(document).ready(function() {
  $('#el1').position('#el2', {
    anchor: ['br', 'tr'],
    offset: [-5, 5]
  });
});

The code above aligns the bottom-right of #el1 with the top-right of #el2. ['cc', 'cc'] would center #el1 in #el2. Make sure that #el1 has the css of position: absolute and z-index: 10000 (or some really large number) to keep it on top.

The offset option allows you to nudge the coordinates by a specified number of pixels.

The source code is below:

jQuery.fn.getBox = function() {
  return {
    left: $(this).offset().left,
    top: $(this).offset().top,
    width: $(this).outerWidth(),
    height: $(this).outerHeight()
  };
}

jQuery.fn.position = function(target, options) {
  var anchorOffsets = {t: 0, l: 0, c: 0.5, b: 1, r: 1};
  var defaults = {
    anchor: ['tl', 'tl'],
    animate: false,
    offset: [0, 0]
  };
  options = $.extend(defaults, options);

  var targetBox = $(target).getBox();
  var sourceBox = $(this).getBox();

  //origin is at the top-left of the target element
  var left = targetBox.left;
  var top = targetBox.top;

  //alignment with respect to source
  top -= anchorOffsets[options.anchor[0].charAt(0)] * sourceBox.height;
  left -= anchorOffsets[options.anchor[0].charAt(1)] * sourceBox.width;

  //alignment with respect to target
  top += anchorOffsets[options.anchor[1].charAt(0)] * targetBox.height;
  left += anchorOffsets[options.anchor[1].charAt(1)] * targetBox.width;

  //add offset to final coordinates
  left += options.offset[0];
  top += options.offset[1];

  $(this).css({
    left: left + 'px',
    top: top + 'px'
  });

}

How to use border with Bootstrap

You can't just add a border to the span because it will break the layout because of the way width is calculate: width = border + padding + width. Since the container is 940px and the span is 940px, adding 2px border (so 4px altogether) will make it look off centered. The work around is to change the width to include the 4px border (original - 4px) or have another div inside that creates the 2px border.

run main class of Maven project

Try the maven-exec-plugin. From there:

mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="com.example.Main"

This will run your class in the JVM. You can use -Dexec.args="arg0 arg1" to pass arguments.

If you're on Windows, apply quotes for exec.mainClass and exec.args:

mvn exec:java -D"exec.mainClass"="com.example.Main"

If you're doing this regularly, you can add the parameters into the pom.xml as well:

<plugin>
  <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
  <artifactId>exec-maven-plugin</artifactId>
  <version>1.2.1</version>

How to run only one task in ansible playbook?

are you familiar with handlers? I think it's what you are looking for. Move the restart from hadoop_master.yml to roles/hadoop_primary/handlers/main.yml:

- name: start hadoop jobtracker services
  service: name=hadoop-0.20-mapreduce-jobtracker state=started

and now call use notify in hadoop_master.yml:

- name: Install the namenode and jobtracker packages
  apt: name={{item}} force=yes state=latest
  with_items:
   - hadoop-0.20-mapreduce-jobtracker
   - hadoop-hdfs-namenode
   - hadoop-doc
   - hue-plugins
  notify: start hadoop jobtracker services

Fix GitLab error: "you are not allowed to push code to protected branches on this project"?

I have encountered this error on "an empty branch" on my local gitlab server. Some people mentioned that "you can not push for the first time on an empty branch". I tried to create a simple README file on the gitlab via my browser. Then everything fixed amazingly and the problem sorted out!! I mention that I was the master and the branch was not protected.

The smallest difference between 2 Angles

If your two angles are x and y, then one of the angles between them is abs(x - y). The other angle is (2 * PI) - abs(x - y). So the value of the smallest of the 2 angles is:

min((2 * PI) - abs(x - y), abs(x - y))

This gives you the absolute value of the angle, and it assumes the inputs are normalized (ie: within the range [0, 2p)).

If you want to preserve the sign (ie: direction) of the angle and also accept angles outside the range [0, 2p) you can generalize the above. Here's Python code for the generalized version:

PI = math.pi
TAU = 2*PI
def smallestSignedAngleBetween(x, y):
    a = (x - y) % TAU
    b = (y - x) % TAU
    return -a if a < b else b

Note that the % operator does not behave the same in all languages, particularly when negative values are involved, so if porting some sign adjustments may be necessary.

malloc for struct and pointer in C

You could actually do this in a single malloc by allocating for the Vector and the array at the same time. Eg:

struct Vector y = (struct Vector*)malloc(sizeof(struct Vector) + 10*sizeof(double));
y->x = (double*)((char*)y + sizeof(struct Vector));
y->n = 10;

This allocates Vector 'y', then makes y->x point to the extra allocated data immediate after the Vector struct (but in the same memory block).

If resizing the vector is required, you should do it with the two allocations as recommended. The internal y->x array would then be able to be resized while keeping the vector struct 'y' intact.

Installing OpenCV on Windows 7 for Python 2.7

As of OpenCV 2.2.0, the package name for the Python bindings is "cv".The old bindings named "opencv" are not maintained any longer. You might have to adjust your code. See http://opencv.willowgarage.com/wiki/PythonInterface.

The official OpenCV installer does not install the Python bindings into your Python directory. There should be a Python2.7 directory inside your OpenCV 2.2.0 installation directory. Copy the whole Lib folder from OpenCV\Python2.7\ to C:\Python27\ and make sure your OpenCV\bin directory is in the Windows DLL search path.

Alternatively use the opencv-python installers at http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#opencv.

Understanding CUDA grid dimensions, block dimensions and threads organization (simple explanation)

Suppose a 9800GT GPU:

  • it has 14 multiprocessors (SM)
  • each SM has 8 thread-processors (AKA stream-processors, SP or cores)
  • allows up to 512 threads per block
  • warpsize is 32 (which means each of the 14x8=112 thread-processors can schedule up to 32 threads)

https://www.tutorialspoint.com/cuda/cuda_threads.htm

A block cannot have more active threads than 512 therefore __syncthreads can only synchronize limited number of threads. i.e. If you execute the following with 600 threads:

func1();
__syncthreads();
func2();
__syncthreads();

then the kernel must run twice and the order of execution will be:

  1. func1 is executed for the first 512 threads
  2. func2 is executed for the first 512 threads
  3. func1 is executed for the remaining threads
  4. func2 is executed for the remaining threads

Note:

The main point is __syncthreads is a block-wide operation and it does not synchronize all threads.

I'm not sure about the exact number of threads that __syncthreads can synchronize, since you can create a block with more than 512 threads and let the warp handle the scheduling. To my understanding it's more accurate to say: func1 is executed at least for the first 512 threads.

Before I edited this answer (back in 2010) I measured 14x8x32 threads were synchronized using __syncthreads.

I would greatly appreciate if someone test this again for a more accurate piece of information.

Better way to sum a property value in an array

Use reduce with destructuring to sum Amount:

const traveler = [
  { description: 'Senior', Amount: 50 },
  { description: 'Senior', Amount: 50 },
  { description: 'Adult', Amount: 75 },
  { description: 'Child', Amount: 35 },
  { description: 'Infant', Amount: 25 },
];

console.log(traveler.reduce((n, {Amount}) => n + Amount, 0))

sql set variable using COUNT

You just need parentheses around your select:

SET @times = (SELECT COUNT(DidWin) FROM ...)

Or you can do it like this:

SELECT @times = COUNT(DidWin) FROM ...

The thread has exited with code 0 (0x0) with no unhandled exception

Executing Linq queries can generate extra threads. When I try to execute code that uses Linq query collection in the immediate window it often refuses to run because not enough threads are available to the debugger.

As others have said, for threads to exit when they are finished is perfectly normal.

How do I create a unique constraint that also allows nulls?

SQL Server 2008 +

You can create a unique index that accept multiple NULLs with a WHERE clause. See the answer below.

Prior to SQL Server 2008

You cannot create a UNIQUE constraint and allow NULLs. You need set a default value of NEWID().

Update the existing values to NEWID() where NULL before creating the UNIQUE constraint.

if (element.addEventListener) {
    element.addEventListener("submit", function(evt) {
        evt.preventDefault();
        window.history.back();
    }, true);
}
else {
    element.attachEvent('onsubmit', function(evt){
        evt.preventDefault();
        window.history.back();
    });

Email Address Validation for ASP.NET

In our code we have a specific validator inherited from the BaseValidator class.

This class does the following:

  1. Validates the e-mail address against a regular expression.
  2. Does a lookup on the MX record for the domain to make sure there is at least a server to deliver to.

This is the closest you can get to validation without actually sending the person an e-mail confirmation link.

A simple scenario using wait() and notify() in java

Even though you asked for wait() and notify() specifically, I feel that this quote is still important enough:

Josh Bloch, Effective Java 2nd Edition, Item 69: Prefer concurrency utilities to wait and notify (emphasis his):

Given the difficulty of using wait and notify correctly, you should use the higher-level concurrency utilities instead [...] using wait and notify directly is like programming in "concurrency assembly language", as compared to the higher-level language provided by java.util.concurrent. There is seldom, if ever, reason to use wait and notify in new code.

What is difference between arm64 and armhf?

armhf stands for "arm hard float", and is the name given to a debian port for arm processors (armv7+) that have hardware floating point support.

On the beaglebone black, for example:

:~$ dpkg --print-architecture
armhf

Although other commands (such as uname -a or arch) will just show armv7l

:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor       : 0
model name      : ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l)
BogoMIPS        : 995.32
Features : half thumb fastmult vfp edsp thumbee neon vfpv3 tls
...

The vfpv3 listed under Features is what refers to the floating point support.

Incidentally, armhf, if your processor supports it, basically supersedes Raspbian, which if I understand correctly was mainly a rebuild of armhf with work arounds to deal with the lack of floating point support on the original raspberry pi's. Nowdays, of course, there's a whole ecosystem build up around Raspbian, so they're probably not going to abandon it. However, this is partly why the beaglebone runs straight debian, and that's ok even if you're used to Raspbian, unless you want some of the special included non-free software such as Mathematica.

Maximum length for MD5 input/output

The algorithm has been designed to support arbitrary input length. I.e you can compute hashes of big files like ISO of a DVD...

If there is a limitation for the input it could come from the environment where the hash function is used. Let's say you want to compute a file and the environment has a MAX_FILE limit.

But the output string will be always the same: 32 hex chars (128 bits)!

How to determine day of week by passing specific date?

This works correctly...

java.time.LocalDate; //package related to time and date

It provides inbuilt method getDayOfWeek() to get the day of a particular week:

int t;
Scanner s = new Scanner(System.in);
t = s.nextInt();
s.nextLine();
 while(t-->0) {
    int d, m, y;
    String ss = s.nextLine();
    String []sss = ss.split(" ");
    d=Integer.parseInt(sss[0]);
    m = Integer.parseInt(sss[1]);
    y = Integer.parseInt(sss[2]);

    LocalDate l = LocalDate.of(y, m, d); //method to get the localdate instance
    System.out.println(l.getDayOfWeek()); //this returns the enum DayOfWeek

To assign the value of enum l.getDayOfWeek() to a string, you could probably use the method of Enum called name() that returns the value of enum object.

Transfer data between iOS and Android via Bluetooth?

Maybe a bit delayed, but technologies have evolved since so there is certainly new info around which draws fresh light on the matter...

As iOS has yet to open up an API for WiFi Direct and Multipeer Connectivity is iOS only, I believe the best way to approach this is to use BLE, which is supported by both platforms (some better than others).

On iOS a device can act both as a BLE Central and BLE Peripheral at the same time, on Android the situation is more complex as not all devices support the BLE Peripheral state. Also the Android BLE stack is very unstable (to date).

If your use case is feature driven, I would suggest to look at Frameworks and Libraries that can achieve cross platform communication for you, without you needing to build it up from scratch.

For example: http://p2pkit.io or google nearby

Disclaimer: I work for Uepaa, developing p2pkit.io for Android and iOS.

How do I drop a function if it already exists?

You have two options to drop and recreate the procedure in SQL Server 2016.

Starting from SQL Server 2016 - use IF EXISTS
