What can I use for good quality code coverage for C#/.NET?

We've released EAP to dotCover and will be releasing the beta version soon.

Javascript - Open a given URL in a new tab by clicking a button

Try this HTML:

Print the data in ResultSet along with column names

ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery("SELECT * from foo");
ResultSetMetaData rsmd = resultSet.getMetaData();
int columnsNumber = rsmd.getColumnCount();
while (resultSet.next()) {
    for (int i = 1; i <= columnsNumber; i++) {
        if (i > 1) System.out.print(",  ");
        String columnValue = resultSet.getString(i);
        System.out.print(columnValue + " " + rsmd.getColumnName(i));

How to copy data to clipboard in C#

For console projects in a step-by-step fashion, you'll have to first add the System.Windows.Forms reference. The following steps work in Visual Studio Community 2013 with .NET 4.5:

  1. In Solution Explorer, expand your console project.
  2. Right-click References, then click Add Reference...
  3. In the Assemblies group, under Framework, select System.Windows.Forms.
  4. Click OK.

Then, add the following using statement in with the others at the top of your code:

using System.Windows.Forms;

Then, add either of the following Clipboard.SetText statements to your code:

Clipboard.SetText("hello");
// OR
Clipboard.SetText(helloString);

And lastly, add STAThreadAttribute to your Main method as follows, to avoid a System.Threading.ThreadStateException:

[STAThreadAttribute]
static void Main(string[] args)
{
  // ...
}

Keyboard shortcuts are not active in Visual Studio with Resharper installed

The only thing I could find said first try and do a VS-Repair. If that doesn't work then do this.

Restart Windows and in safe mode, run devenv /safemode in Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt. If in safe mode this issue disappeared, the cause should be third-party applications, services or Visual Studio Add-ins. Please also try devenv /resetsettings or devenv /setup in Command Prompt.

How to debug an apache virtual host configuration?

I had a new VirtualHost configuration file that was not showing when using the apachectl -S command. After much head scratching I realised that my file did not have suffix ".conf". Once I renamed the file with that suffix my Vhost started showing and working!

How open PowerShell as administrator from the run window

The easiest way to open an admin Powershell window in Windows 10 (and Windows 8) is to add a "Windows Powershell (Admin)" option to the "Power User Menu". Once this is done, you can open an admin powershell window via Win+X,A or by right-clicking on the start button and selecting "Windows Powershell (Admin)":

[Windows 10/Windows 8 Power User menu with "Windows Powershell (Admin)

Here's where you replace the "Command Prompt" option with a "Windows Powershell" option:

How to center a subview of UIView

Using the same center in the view and subview is the simplest way of doing it. You can do something like this,

UIView *innerView = ....;
innerView.view.center = self.view.center;
[self.view addSubView:innerView];

how to enable sqlite3 for php?

This will drown here, but I fixed my problems with this:

As far as I have found out, there is a faulty file in /usr/local/lib called libsqlite3.so.0 which points to libsqlite3.so.0.8.6. It's been installed through the php7.3-* packages as far as I can tell.

I renamed the file in case it was needed for something. With the command:

cd /usr/local/lib sudo mv libsqlite3.so.0 ./libsqlite3.so.0.back

But you can also just delete it: rm libsqlite3.so.0

This solved my problems, and I hope they solve yours as well :)

How to execute only one test spec with angular-cli

Just small change need in test.ts file inside src folder:

const context = require.context('./', true, /test-example\.spec\.ts$/);

Here, test-example is the exact file name which we need to run

In the same way, if you need to test the service file only you can replace the filename like "/test-example.service"

CHECK constraint in MySQL is not working

Unfortunately MySQL does not support SQL check constraints. You can define them in your DDL query for compatibility reasons but they are just ignored.

There is a simple alternative

You can create BEFORE INSERT and BEFORE UPDATE triggers which either cause an error or set the field to its default value when the requirements of the data are not met.

Example for BEFORE INSERT working after MySQL 5.5

DELIMITER $$
CREATE TRIGGER `test_before_insert` BEFORE INSERT ON `Test`
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
    IF CHAR_LENGTH( NEW.ID ) < 4 THEN
        SIGNAL SQLSTATE '12345'
            SET MESSAGE_TEXT := 'check constraint on Test.ID failed';
    END IF;
END$$
DELIMITER ;

Prior to MySQL 5.5 you had to cause an error, e.g. call a undefined procedure.

In both cases this causes an implicit transaction rollback. MySQL does not allow the ROLLBACK statement itself within procedures and triggers.

If you don't want to rollback the transaction ( INSERT / UPDATE should pass even with a failed "check constraint" you can overwrite the value using SET NEW.ID = NULL which will set the id to the fields default value, doesn't really make sense for an id tho

Edit: Removed the stray quote.

Concerning the := operator:

Unlike =, the := operator is never interpreted as a comparison operator. This means you can use := in any valid SQL statement (not just in SET statements) to assign a value to a variable.

https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/assignment-operators.html

Concerning backtick identifier quotes:

The identifier quote character is the backtick (“`”)

If the ANSI_QUOTES SQL mode is enabled, it is also permissible to quote identifiers within double quotation marks

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/identifiers.html

Access: Move to next record until EOF

Keeping the code simple is always my advice:

If IsNull(Me.Id) = True Then
  DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNext
Else
  DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acLast
End If

"Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created" negative effects

Yes, there are negative effects from this:

If you script out a change blocked by this flag you get something like the script below (all i am turning the ID column in Contact into an autonumbered IDENTITY column, but the table has dependencies). Note potential errors that can occur while the following is running:

  1. Even microsoft warns that this may cause data loss (that comment is auto-generated)!
  2. for a period of time, foreign keys are not enforced.
  3. if you manually run this in ssms and the ' EXEC('INSERT INTO ' fails, and you let the following statements run (which they do by default, as they are split by 'go') then you will insert 0 rows, then drop the old table.
  4. if this is a big table, the runtime of the insert can be large, and the transaction is holding a schema modification lock, so blocks many things.

Remove warning messages in PHP

in Core Php to hide warning message set error_reporting(0) at top of common include file or individual file.

In Wordpress hide Warnings and Notices add following code in wp-config.php file

ini_set('log_errors','On');
ini_set('display_errors','Off');
ini_set('error_reporting', E_ALL );
define('WP_DEBUG', false);
define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true);
define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);

Check if an excel cell exists on another worksheet in a column - and return the contents of a different column

You can use following formulas.

For Excel 2007 or later:

=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(D3,List!A:C,3,FALSE),"No Match")

For Excel 2003:

=IF(ISERROR(MATCH(D3,List!A:A, 0)), "No Match", VLOOKUP(D3,List!A:C,3,FALSE))

Note, that

  • I'm using List!A:C in VLOOKUP and returns value from column ? 3
  • I'm using 4th argument for VLOOKUP equals to FALSE, in that case VLOOKUP will only find an exact match, and the values in the first column of List!A:C do not need to be sorted (opposite to case when you're using TRUE).

Run automatically program on startup under linux ubuntu

sudo mv /filename /etc/init.d/
sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/filename
sudo update-rc.d filename defaults

Script should now start on boot. Note that this method also works with both hard links and symbolic links (ln).

Edit

At this point in the boot process PATH isn't set yet, so it is critical that absolute paths are used throughout. BUT, as pointed out in the comments by Steve HHH, explicitly declaring the full file path (/etc/init.d/filename) for the update-rc.d command is not valid in most versions of Linux. Per the manpage for update-rc.d, the second parameter is a script located in /etc/init.d/*. Updated above code to reflect this.

Another Edit

Also as pointed out in the comments (by Charles Brandt), /filename must be an init style script. A good template was also provided - https://github.com/fhd/init-script-template.

Another link to another article just to avoid possible link rot (although it would be saddening if GitHub died) - http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/442412-managing-linux-daemons-with-init-scripts

yetAnother Edit

As pointed out in the comments (by Russell Yan), This works only on default mode of update-rc.d.

According to manual of update-rc.d, it can run on two modes, "the machines using the legacy mode will have a file /etc/init.d/.legacy-bootordering", in which case you have to pass sequence and runlevel configuration through command line arguments.

The equivalent argument set for the above example is

sudo update-rc.d filename start 20 2 3 4 5 . stop 20 0 1 6 .

The type or namespace cannot be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

I get this error when my project .net framework version does not match the framework version of the DLL I am linking to. In my case, I was getting:

"The type or namespace name 'UserVoice' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?).

UserVoice was .Net 4.0, and my project properties were set to ".Net 4.0 Client Profile". Changing to .Net 4.0 on the project cleared the error. I hope this helps someone.

Understanding `scale` in R

It provides nothing else but a standardization of the data. The values it creates are known under several different names, one of them being z-scores ("Z" because the normal distribution is also known as the "Z distribution").

Flutter - The method was called on null

As stated in the above answers, it's always a good practice to initialize the variables, but if you have something which you don't know what value should it takes, and you want to leave it uninitialized so you have to make sure that you are updating it before using it.

For example: Assume we have double _bmi; and you don't know what value should it takes, so you can leave it as it is, but before using it, you have to update its value first like calling a function that calculating BMI like follows:

String calculateBMI (){
_bmi = weight / pow( height/100, 2);
return _bmi.toStringAsFixed(1);}

or whatever, what I mean is, you can leave the variable as it is, but before using it make sure you have initialized it using whatever the method you are using.

How to limit the maximum files chosen when using multiple file input

In javascript you can do something like this

<input
  ref="fileInput"
  multiple
  type="file"
  style="display: none"
  @change="trySubmitFile"
>

and the function can be something like this.

trySubmitFile(e) {
  if (this.disabled) return;
  const files = e.target.files || e.dataTransfer.files;
  if (files.length > 5) {
    alert('You are only allowed to upload a maximum of 2 files at a time');
  }
  if (!files.length) return;
  for (let i = 0; i < Math.min(files.length, 2); i++) {
    this.fileCallback(files[i]);
  }
}

I am also searching for a solution where this can be limited at the time of selecting files but until now I could not find anything like that.

Drop data frame columns by name

within(df, rm(x))

is probably easiest, or for multiple variables:

within(df, rm(x, y))

Or if you're dealing with data.tables (per How do you delete a column by name in data.table?):

dt[, x := NULL] # Deletes column x by reference instantly.

dt[, !"x"]   # Selects all but x into a new data.table.

or for multiple variables

dt[, c("x","y") := NULL]

dt[, !c("x", "y")]

Alternative to header("Content-type: text/xml");

Now I see what you are doing. You cannot send output to the screen then change the headers. If you are trying to create an XML file of map marker and download them to display, they should be in separate files.

Take this

<?php
require("database.php");
function parseToXML($htmlStr)
{
$xmlStr=str_replace('<','&lt;',$htmlStr);
$xmlStr=str_replace('>','&gt;',$xmlStr);
$xmlStr=str_replace('"','&quot;',$xmlStr);
$xmlStr=str_replace("'",'&#39;',$xmlStr);
$xmlStr=str_replace("&",'&amp;',$xmlStr);
return $xmlStr;
}
// Opens a connection to a MySQL server
$connection=mysql_connect (localhost, $username, $password);
if (!$connection) {
  die('Not connected : ' . mysql_error());
}
// Set the active MySQL database
$db_selected = mysql_select_db($database, $connection);
if (!$db_selected) {
  die ('Can\'t use db : ' . mysql_error());
}
// Select all the rows in the markers table
$query = "SELECT * FROM markers WHERE 1";
$result = mysql_query($query);
if (!$result) {
  die('Invalid query: ' . mysql_error());
}
header("Content-type: text/xml");
// Start XML file, echo parent node
echo '<markers>';
// Iterate through the rows, printing XML nodes for each
while ($row = @mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){
  // ADD TO XML DOCUMENT NODE
  echo '<marker ';
  echo 'name="' . parseToXML($row['name']) . '" ';
  echo 'address="' . parseToXML($row['address']) . '" ';
  echo 'lat="' . $row['lat'] . '" ';
  echo 'lng="' . $row['lng'] . '" ';
  echo 'type="' . $row['type'] . '" ';
  echo '/>';
}
// End XML file
echo '</markers>';
?>

and place it in phpsqlajax_genxml.php so your javascript can download the XML file. You are trying to do too many things in the same file.

Do standard windows .ini files allow comments?

Windows INI API support for:

  • Line comments: yes, using semi-colon ;
  • Trailing comments: No

The authoritative source is the Windows API function that reads values out of INI files

GetPrivateProfileString

Retrieves a string from the specified section in an initialization file.

The reason "full line comments" work is because the requested value does not exist. For example, when parsing the following ini file contents:

[Application]
UseLiveData=1
;coke=zero
pepsi=diet   ;gag
#stackoverflow=splotchy

Reading the values:

  • UseLiveData: 1
  • coke: not present
  • ;coke: not present
  • pepsi: diet ;gag
  • stackoverflow: not present
  • #stackoverflow: splotchy

Update: I used to think that the number sign (#) was a pseudo line-comment character. The reason using leading # works to hide stackoverflow is because the name stackoverflow no longer exists. And it turns out that semi-colon (;) is a line-comment.

But there is no support for trailing comments.

Java: get greatest common divisor

Or the Euclidean algorithm for calculating the GCD...

public int egcd(int a, int b) {
    if (a == 0)
        return b;

    while (b != 0) {
        if (a > b)
            a = a - b;
        else
            b = b - a;
    }

    return a;
}

How to get a property value based on the name

Expanding on Adam Rackis's answer - we can make the extension method generic simply like this:

public static TResult GetPropertyValue<TResult>(this object t, string propertyName)
{
    object val = t.GetType().GetProperties().Single(pi => pi.Name == propertyName).GetValue(t, null);
    return (TResult)val;
}

You can throw some error handling around that too if you like.

How to pass table value parameters to stored procedure from .net code

Further to Ryan's answer you will also need to set the DataColumn's Ordinal property if you are dealing with a table-valued parameter with multiple columns whose ordinals are not in alphabetical order.

As an example, if you have the following table value that is used as a parameter in SQL:

CREATE TYPE NodeFilter AS TABLE (
  ID int not null
  Code nvarchar(10) not null,
);

You would need to order your columns as such in C#:

table.Columns["ID"].SetOrdinal(0);
// this also bumps Code to ordinal of 1
// if you have more than 2 cols then you would need to set more ordinals

If you fail to do this you will get a parse error, failed to convert nvarchar to int.

Find the max of two or more columns with pandas

You can get the maximum like this:

>>> import pandas as pd
>>> df = pd.DataFrame({"A": [1,2,3], "B": [-2, 8, 1]})
>>> df
   A  B
0  1 -2
1  2  8
2  3  1
>>> df[["A", "B"]]
   A  B
0  1 -2
1  2  8
2  3  1
>>> df[["A", "B"]].max(axis=1)
0    1
1    8
2    3

and so:

>>> df["C"] = df[["A", "B"]].max(axis=1)
>>> df
   A  B  C
0  1 -2  1
1  2  8  8
2  3  1  3

If you know that "A" and "B" are the only columns, you could even get away with

>>> df["C"] = df.max(axis=1)

And you could use .apply(max, axis=1) too, I guess.

What is the default initialization of an array in Java?

Everything in a Java program not explicitly set to something by the programmer, is initialized to a zero value.

  • For references (anything that holds an object) that is null.
  • For int/short/byte/long that is a 0.
  • For float/double that is a 0.0
  • For booleans that is a false.
  • For char that is the null character '\u0000' (whose decimal equivalent is 0).

When you create an array of something, all entries are also zeroed. So your array contains five zeros right after it is created by new.

Note (based on comments): The Java Virtual Machine is not required to zero out the underlying memory when allocating local variables (this allows efficient stack operations if needed) so to avoid random values the Java Language Specification requires local variables to be initialized.

Calling Python in PHP

Cast object to interface in TypeScript

There's no casting in javascript, so you cannot throw if "casting fails".
Typescript supports casting but that's only for compilation time, and you can do it like this:

const toDo = <IToDoDto> req.body;
// or
const toDo = req.body as IToDoDto;

You can check at runtime if the value is valid and if not throw an error, i.e.:

function isToDoDto(obj: any): obj is IToDoDto {
    return typeof obj.description === "string" && typeof obj.status === "boolean";
}

@Post()
addToDo(@Response() res, @Request() req) {
    if (!isToDoDto(req.body)) {
        throw new Error("invalid request");
    }

    const toDo = req.body as IToDoDto;
    this.toDoService.addToDo(toDo);
    return res.status(HttpStatus.CREATED).end();
}

Edit

As @huyz pointed out, there's no need for the type assertion because isToDoDto is a type guard, so this should be enough:

if (!isToDoDto(req.body)) {
    throw new Error("invalid request");
}

this.toDoService.addToDo(req.body);

Detect merged cells in VBA Excel with MergeArea

While working with selected cells as shown by @tbur can be useful, it's also not the only option available.

You can use Range() like so:

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Or:

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:C1").MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Alternately, you can use Cells():

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Cells(1, 1).MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

How to solve COM Exception Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))?

My problem and the solution

I have a 32 bit third party dll which i have installed in 2008 R2 machine which is 64 bit.

I have a wcf service created in .net 4.5 framework which calls the 32 bit third party dll for process. Now i have build property set to target 'any' cpu and deployed it to the 64 bit machine.

when i tried to invoke the wcf service got error "80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG"

Now i used ProcMon.exe to trace the com registry issue and identified that the process is looking for the registry entry at HKLM\CLSID and HKCR\CLSID where there is no entry.

Came to know that Microsoft will not register the 32 bit com components to the paths HKLM\CLSID, HKCR\CLSID in 64 bit machine rather it places the entry in HKLM\Wow6432Node\CLSID and HKCR\Wow6432Node\CLSID paths.

Now the conflict is 64 bit process trying to invoke 32 bit process in 64 bit machine which will look for the registry entry in HKLM\CLSID, HKCR\CLSID. The solution is we have to force the 64 bit process to look at the registry entry at HKLM\Wow6432Node\CLSID and HKCR\Wow6432Node\CLSID.

This can be achieved by configuring the wcf service project properties to target to 'X86' machine instead of 'Any'.

After deploying the 'X86' version to the 2008 R2 server got the issue "System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly"

Solution to this badimageformatexception is setting the 'Enable32bitApplications' to 'True' in IIS Apppool properties for the right apppool.

What is the difference between ndarray and array in numpy?

numpy.array is just a convenience function to create an ndarray; it is not a class itself.

You can also create an array using numpy.ndarray, but it is not the recommended way. From the docstring of numpy.ndarray:

Arrays should be constructed using array, zeros or empty ... The parameters given here refer to a low-level method (ndarray(...)) for instantiating an array.

Most of the meat of the implementation is in C code, here in multiarray, but you can start looking at the ndarray interfaces here:

Disable mouse scroll wheel zoom on embedded Google Maps

This is a solution with CSS and Javascript (ie. Jquery but works also with pure Javascript). At the same time the map is responsive. Avoid map to zoom when scrolling, but map can be activated by click in it.

HTML/JQuery Javascript

<div id="map" onclick="$('#googlemap').css('pointerEvents','auto'); return true;">
    <iframe id="googlemap" src="http://your-embed-url" height="350"></iframe>
</div>

CSS

#map {
    position: relative;
    padding-bottom: 36%; /* 16:9 ratio for responsive */
    height: 0;
    overflow: hidden;
    background:transparent; /* does the trick */
    z-index:98; /* does the trick */
}
#map iframe {
    pointer-events:none; /* does the trick */
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
    width: 100% !important;
    height: 100% !important;
    z-index:97; /* does the trick */
}

datetime.parse and making it work with a specific format

DateTime.ParseExact(input,"yyyyMMdd HH:mm",null);

assuming you meant to say that minutes followed the hours, not seconds - your example is a little confusing.

The ParseExact documentation details other overloads, in case you want to have the parse automatically convert to Universal Time or something like that.

As @Joel Coehoorn mentions, there's also the option of using TryParseExact, which will return a Boolean value indicating success or failure of the operation - I'm still on .Net 1.1, so I often forget this one.

If you need to parse other formats, you can check out the Standard DateTime Format Strings.

CSS: Change image src on img:hover

On older browsers, :hover only worked on <a> elements. So you'd have to do something like this to get it to work.

<style>
a#aks
{
    width:100px;
    height:100px;
    display:block;
}

a#aks:link
{
  background-image: url('http://dummyimage.com/100x100/000/fff');
}

a#aks:hover
{
  background-image: url('http://dummyimage.com/100x100/eb00eb/fff');
}
</style>

<a href="#" id="aks"></a>

Bad File Descriptor with Linux Socket write() Bad File Descriptor C

In general, when "Bad File Descriptor" is encountered, it means that the socket file descriptor you passed into the API is not valid, which has multiple possible reasons:

  1. The fd is already closed somewhere.
  2. The fd has a wrong value, which is inconsistent with the value obtained from socket() api

.substring error: "is not a function"

document.location is an object, not a string. It returns (by default) the full path, but it actually holds more info than that.

Shortcut for solution: document.location.toString().substring(2,3);

Or use document.location.href or window.location.href

How to link external javascript file onclick of button

You can load all your scripts in the head tag, and whatever your script is doing in function braces. But make sure you change the scope of the variables if you are using those variables outside the script.

/^\d+\.\d+$|^\d+$/.test(val)

Why should I use the keyword "final" on a method parameter in Java?

Sometimes it's nice to be explicit (for readability) that the variable doesn't change. Here's a simple example where using final can save some possible headaches:

public void setTest(String test) {
    test = test;
}

If you forget the 'this' keyword on a setter, then the variable you want to set doesn't get set. However, if you used the final keyword on the parameter, then the bug would be caught at compile time.

How can I select the row with the highest ID in MySQL?

Note that if strings has spaces then quotation marks are needed at definition and must be chopped while concatenating:

rem The retail files set
set FILES_SET="(*.exe *.dll"

rem The debug extras files set
set DEBUG_EXTRA=" *.pdb"

rem Build the DEBUG set without any
set FILES_SET=%FILES_SET:~1,-1%%DEBUG_EXTRA:~1,-1%

rem Append the closing bracket
set FILES_SET=%FILES_SET%)

echo %FILES_SET%

  • As your form gets more complex, you can a quick check at top of your php script using print_r($_POST);, it'll show what's being submitted an the respective element name.
  • To get the submitted value of the element in question do:

    $website_string = $_POST['website_string'];

Align <div> elements side by side

Beware float: left

…there are many ways to align elements side-by-side.

Below are the most common ways to achieve two elements side-by-side…

Demo: View/edit all the below examples on Codepen

Basic styles for all examples below…

Some basic css styles for parent and child elements in these examples:

.parent {
  background: mediumpurple;
  padding: 1rem;
}
.child {
  border: 1px solid indigo;
  padding: 1rem;
}

float:left

Using the float solution my have unintended affect on other elements. (Hint: You may need to use a clearfix.)

html

<div class='parent'>
  <div class='child float-left-child'>A</div>
  <div class='child float-left-child'>B</div>
</div>

css

.float-left-child {
  float: left;
}

display:inline-block

html

<div class='parent'>
  <div class='child inline-block-child'>A</div>
  <div class='child inline-block-child'>B</div>
</div>

css

.inline-block-child {
  display: inline-block;
}

Note: the space between these two child elements can be removed, by removing the space between the div tags:

display:inline-block (no space)

html

<div class='parent'>
  <div class='child inline-block-child'>A</div><div class='child inline-block-child'>B</div>
</div>

css

.inline-block-child {
  display: inline-block;
}

display:flex

html

<div class='parent flex-parent'>
  <div class='child flex-child'>A</div>
  <div class='child flex-child'>B</div>
</div>

css

.flex-parent {
  display: flex;
}
.flex-child {
  flex: 1;
}

display:inline-flex

html

<div class='parent inline-flex-parent'>
  <div class='child'>A</div>
  <div class='child'>B</div>
</div>

css

.inline-flex-parent {
  display: inline-flex;
}

display:grid

html

<div class='parent grid-parent'>
  <div class='child'>A</div>
  <div class='child'>B</div>
</div>

css

.grid-parent {
  display: grid;
  grid-template-columns: 1fr 1fr
}

MySQL join with where clause

You need to put it in the join clause, not the where:

SELECT *
FROM categories
LEFT JOIN user_category_subscriptions ON
    user_category_subscriptions.category_id = categories.category_id
    and user_category_subscriptions.user_id =1

See, with an inner join, putting a clause in the join or the where is equivalent. However, with an outer join, they are vastly different.

As a join condition, you specify the rowset that you will be joining to the table. This means that it evaluates user_id = 1 first, and takes the subset of user_category_subscriptions with a user_id of 1 to join to all of the rows in categories. This will give you all of the rows in categories, while only the categories that this particular user has subscribed to will have any information in the user_category_subscriptions columns. Of course, all other categories will be populated with null in the user_category_subscriptions columns.

Conversely, a where clause does the join, and then reduces the rowset. So, this does all of the joins and then eliminates all rows where user_id doesn't equal 1. You're left with an inefficient way to get an inner join.

Hopefully this helps!

    End If
End Function

What is the difference between the 'COPY' and 'ADD' commands in a Dockerfile?

From Docker docs:

ADD or COPY

Although ADD and COPY are functionally similar, generally speaking, COPY is preferred. That’s because it’s more transparent than ADD. COPY only supports the basic copying of local files into the container, while ADD has some features (like local-only tar extraction and remote URL support) that are not immediately obvious. Consequently, the best use for ADD is local tar file auto-extraction into the image, as in ADD rootfs.tar.xz /.

SQL Server procedure declare a list

You can convert the list of passed values into a table valued parameter and then select against this list

DECLARE @list NVARCHAR(MAX)
SET @list = '1,2,5,7,10';

DECLARE @pos INT
DECLARE @nextpos INT
DECLARE @valuelen INT
DECLARE @tbl TABLE (number int NOT NULL)

SELECT @pos = 0, @nextpos = 1;

WHILE @nextpos > 0
BEGIN
    SELECT @nextpos = charindex(',', @list, @pos + 1)
    SELECT @valuelen = CASE WHEN @nextpos > 0
                            THEN @nextpos
                            ELSE len(@list) + 1
                        END - @pos - 1
    INSERT @tbl (number)
        VALUES (convert(int, substring(@list, @pos + 1, @valuelen)))
    SELECT @pos = @nextpos;
END

SELECT * FROM DBTable WHERE id IN (SELECT number FROM @tbl);

In this example the string passed in '1,2,5,7,10' is split by the commas and each value is added as a new row within the @tbl table variable. This can then be selected against using standard SQL.

If you intend to reuse this functionality you could go further and convert this into a function.

delete all from table

This is deletes the table table_name.

Replace it with the name of the table, which shall be deleted.

DELETE FROM table_name;

Capture Signature using HTML5 and iPad

The options already listed are very good, however here a few more on this topic that I've researched and came across.

1) http://perfectionkills.com/exploring-canvas-drawing-techniques/
2) http://mcc.id.au/2010/signature.html
3) https://zipso.net/a-simple-touchscreen-sketchpad-using-javascript-and-html5/

And as always you may want to save the canvas to image:

good luck and happy signing

jQuery replace one class with another

you could have both of them use a "corpo_button" class, or something like that, and then in $(".corpo_button").click(...) just call $(this).toggleClass("corpo_buttons_asia corpo_buttons_global");

How can I edit a .jar file?

A jar file is a zip archive. You can extract it using 7zip (a great simple tool to open archives). You can also change its extension to zip and use whatever to unzip the file.

Now you have your class file. There is no easy way to edit class file, because class files are binaries (you won't find source code in there. maybe some strings, but not java code). To edit your class file you can use a tool like classeditor.

You have all the strings your class is using hard-coded in the class file. So if the only thing you would like to change is some strings you can do it without using classeditor.

Why does integer division in C# return an integer and not a float?

Each data type is capable of overloading each operator. If both the numerator and the denominator are integers, the integer type will perform the division operation and it will return an integer type. If you want floating point division, you must cast one or more of the number to floating point types before dividing them. For instance:

int x = 13;
int y = 4;
float x = (float)y / (float)z;

or, if you are using literals:

float x = 13f / 4f;

Keep in mind, floating points are not precise. If you care about precision, use something like the decimal type, instead.

How to create a localhost server to run an AngularJS project

I use:

  • express and
  • morgan

Install Node.js. and npm. npm is installed with Node.js

Placed inside the root project directory

$ cd <your_angularjs_project>

The next command creates package.json

$ npm init

Install express ==> Fast, unopinionated, minimalist for node:

$ npm install express --save

Install morgan ==> HTTP request logger middleware for node.js

$ npm install morgan --save

create file server.js

add the following code in server.js file

// Required Modules
var express    = require("express");
var morgan     = require("morgan");
var app        = express();

var port = process.env.PORT || 3002;

app.use(morgan("dev"));
app.use(express.static("./"));

app.get("/", function(req, res) {
    res.sendFile("./index.html"); //index.html file of your angularjs application
});

// Start Server
app.listen(port, function () {
    console.log( "Express server listening on port " + port);
});

Finally run your AngularJS project in localhost server:

$ node server.js

How do you set a JavaScript onclick event to a class with css

You can do this by thinking of it a little bit differently. Detect when the body is clicked (document.body.onclick - i.e. anything on the page) and then check if the element clicked (event.srcElement / e.target) has a class and that that class name is the one you want:

document.body.onclick = function(e) {   //when the document body is clicked
    if (window.event) {
        e = event.srcElement;           //assign the element clicked to e (IE 6-8)
    }
    else {
        e = e.target;                   //assign the element clicked to e
    }

    if (e.className && e.className.indexOf('someclass') != -1) {
        //if the element has a class name, and that is 'someclass' then...
        alert('hohoho');
    }
}

Or a more concise version of the above:

document.body.onclick= function(e){
   e=window.event? event.srcElement: e.target;
   if(e.className && e.className.indexOf('someclass')!=-1)alert('hohoho');
}

Converting a pointer into an integer

  1. #include <stdint.h>
  2. Use uintptr_t standard type defined in the included standard header file.

Commenting in a Bash script inside a multiline command

$IFS comment hacks

This hack uses parameter expansion on $IFS, which is used to separate words in commands:

$ echo foo${IFS}bar
foo bar

Similarly:

$ echo foo${IFS#comment}bar
foo bar

Using this, you can put a comment on a command line with contination:

$ echo foo${IFS# Comment here} \
> bar
foo bar

but the comment will need to be before the \ continuation.

Note that parameter expansion is performed inside the comment:

$ ls file
ls: cannot access 'file': No such file or directory
$ echo foo${IFS# This command will create file: $(touch file)}bar
foo bar
$ ls file
file

Rare exception

The only rare case this fails is if $IFS previously started with the exact text which is removed via the expansion (ie, after the # character):

$ IFS=x
$ echo foo${IFS#y}bar
foo bar
$ echo foo${IFS#x}bar
foobar

Note the final foobar has no space, illustrating the issue.

Since $IFS contains only whitespace by default, it's extremely unlikely you'll run into this problem.

How does spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto property exactly work in Spring?

For the record, the spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto property is Spring Data JPA specific and is their way to specify a value that will eventually be passed to Hibernate under the property it knows, hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto.

The values create, create-drop, validate, and update basically influence how the schema tool management will manipulate the database schema at startup.

For example, the update operation will query the JDBC driver's API to get the database metadata and then Hibernate compares the object model it creates based on reading your annotated classes or HBM XML mappings and will attempt to adjust the schema on-the-fly.

The update operation for example will attempt to add new columns, constraints, etc but will never remove a column or constraint that may have existed previously but no longer does as part of the object model from a prior run.

Typically in test case scenarios, you'll likely use create-drop so that you create your schema, your test case adds some mock data, you run your tests, and then during the test case cleanup, the schema objects are dropped, leaving an empty database.

In development, it's often common to see developers use update to automatically modify the schema to add new additions upon restart. But again understand, this does not remove a column or constraint that may exist from previous executions that is no longer necessary.

In production, it's often highly recommended you use none or simply don't specify this property. That is because it's common practice for DBAs to review migration scripts for database changes, particularly if your database is shared across multiple services and applications.

How to use count and group by at the same select statement

if You Want to use Select All Query With Count Option, try this...

 select a.*, (Select count(b.name) from table_name as b where Condition) as totCount from table_name as a where where Condition

Method has the same erasure as another method in type

Define a single Method without type like void add(Set ii){}

You can mention the type while calling the method based on your choice. It will work for any type of set.

A JNI error has occurred, please check your installation and try again in Eclipse x86 Windows 8.1

You can try: right click on the project and then click clean. After this run the project.

It works for me.

How can I mark a foreign key constraint using Hibernate annotations?

There are many answers and all are correct as well. But unfortunately none of them have a clear explanation.

The following works for a non-primary key mapping as well.

Let's say we have parent table A with column 1 and another table, B, with column 2 which references column 1:

@ManyToOne
@JoinColumn(name = "TableBColumn", referencedColumnName = "TableAColumn")
private TableA session_UserName;

Enter image description here

@ManyToOne
@JoinColumn(name = "bok_aut_id", referencedColumnName = "aut_id")
private Author bok_aut_id;

How to disable keypad popup when on edittext?

Declare the global variable for InputMethodManager:

 private InputMethodManager im ;

Under onCreate() define it:

 im = (InputMethodManager)getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE);
 im.hideSoftInputFromWindow(youredittext.getWindowToken(), 0);

Set the onClickListener to that edit text inside oncreate():

 youredittext.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View v) {
        im.showSoftInput(youredittext, InputMethodManager.SHOW_IMPLICIT);
    }
});

This will work.

How to use a variable for the database name in T-SQL?

You cannot use a variable in a create table statement. The best thing I can suggest is to write the entire query as a string and exec that.

Try something like this:

declare @query varchar(max);
set @query = 'create database TEST...';

exec (@query);

Move branch pointer to different commit without checkout

You can also pass git reset --hard a commit reference.

For example:

git checkout branch-name
git reset --hard new-tip-commit

I find I do something like this semi-frequently:

Assuming this history

$ git log --decorate --oneline --graph
* 3daed46 (HEAD, master) New thing I shouldn't have committed to master
* a0d9687 This is the commit that I actually want to be master

# Backup my latest commit to a wip branch
$ git branch wip_doing_stuff

# Ditch that commit on this branch
$ git reset --hard HEAD^

# Now my changes are in a new branch
$ git log --decorate --oneline --graph
* 3daed46 (wip_doing_stuff) New thing I shouldn't have committed to master
* a0d9687 (HEAD, master) This is the commit that I actually want to be master

MySQLDump one INSERT statement for each data row

In newer versions change was made to the flags: from the documentation:

--extended-insert, -e

Write INSERT statements using multiple-row syntax that includes several VALUES lists. This results in a smaller dump file and speeds up inserts when the file is reloaded.

--opt

This option, enabled by default, is shorthand for the combination of --add-drop-table --add-locks --create-options --disable-keys --extended-insert --lock-tables --quick --set-charset. It gives a fast dump operation and produces a dump file that can be reloaded into a MySQL server quickly.

Because the --opt option is enabled by default, you only specify its converse, the --skip-opt to turn off several default settings. See the discussion of mysqldump option groups for information about selectively enabling or disabling a subset of the options affected by --opt.

--skip-extended-insert

Turn off extended-insert

How to read a .properties file which contains keys that have a period character using Shell script

As (Bourne) shell variables cannot contain dots you can replace them by underscores. Read every line, translate . in the key to _ and evaluate.

#/bin/sh

file="./app.properties"

if [ -f "$file" ]
then
  echo "$file found."

  while IFS='=' read -r key value
  do
    key=$(echo $key | tr '.' '_')
    eval ${key}=\${value}
  done < "$file"

  echo "User Id       = " ${db_uat_user}
  echo "user password = " ${db_uat_passwd}
else
  echo "$file not found."
fi

Note that the above only translates . to _, if you have a more complex format you may want to use additional translations. I recently had to parse a full Ant properties file with lots of nasty characters, and there I had to use:

key=$(echo $key | tr .-/ _ | tr -cd 'A-Za-z0-9_')

Hiding a sheet in Excel 2007 (with a password) OR hide VBA code in Excel

No.

If the user is sophisticated or determined enough to:

  1. Open the Excel VBA editor
  2. Use the object browser to see the list of all sheets, including VERYHIDDEN ones
  3. Change the property of the sheet to VISIBLE or just HIDDEN

then they are probably sophisticated or determined enough to:

  1. Search the internet for "remove Excel 2007 project password"
  2. Apply the instructions they find.

So what's on this hidden sheet? Proprietary information like price formulas, or client names, or employee salaries? Putting that info in even an hidden tab probably isn't the greatest idea to begin with.

How does the keyword "use" work in PHP and can I import classes with it?

No, you can not import a class with the use keyword. You have to use include/require statement. Even if you use a PHP auto loader, still autoloader will have to use either include or require internally.

The Purpose of use keyword:

Consider a case where you have two classes with the same name; you'll find it strange, but when you are working with a big MVC structure, it happens. So if you have two classes with the same name, put them in different namespaces. Now consider when your auto loader is loading both classes (does by require), and you are about to use object of class. In this case, the compiler will get confused which class object to load among two. To help the compiler make a decision, you can use the use statement so that it can make a decision which one is going to be used on.

Nowadays major frameworks do use include or require via composer and psr

1) composer

2) PSR-4 autoloader

Going through them may help you further. You can also use an alias to address an exact class. Suppose you've got two classes with the same name, say Mailer with two different namespaces:

namespace SMTP;
class Mailer{}

and

namespace Mailgun;
class Mailer{}

And if you want to use both Mailer classes at the same time then you can use an alias.

use SMTP\Mailer as SMTPMailer;
use Mailgun\Mailer as MailgunMailer;

Later in your code if you want to access those class objects then you can do the following:

$smtp_mailer = new SMTPMailer;
$mailgun_mailer = new MailgunMailer;

It will reference the original class.

Some may get confused that then of there are not Similar class names then there is no use of use keyword. Well, you can use __autoload($class) function which will be called automatically when use statement gets executed with the class to be used as an argument and this can help you to load the class at run-time on the fly as and when needed.

Refer this answer to know more about class autoloader.

"Input string was not in a correct format."

whenever i try to compile the code it says "{"Input string was not in a correct format."}"

This error won't come on compiling.

Now the error comese because you are trying to parse an invalid string to integer. To do it in a safe manner, you should do it like this

int questionID;
if(int.TryParse(vTwoOrMoreOptions.SelectedItems[0].Text.ToString(),out questionID))
{
//success code
}
else
{
 //failure code
}

Can't create handler inside thread that has not called Looper.prepare()

You're calling it from a worker thread. You need to call Toast.makeText() (and most other functions dealing with the UI) from within the main thread. You could use a handler, for example.

Look up Communicating with the UI Thread in the documentation. In a nutshell:

// Set this up in the UI thread.

mHandler = new Handler(Looper.getMainLooper()) {
    @Override
    public void handleMessage(Message message) {
        // This is where you do your work in the UI thread.
        // Your worker tells you in the message what to do.
    }
};

void workerThread() {
    // And this is how you call it from the worker thread:
    Message message = mHandler.obtainMessage(command, parameter);
    message.sendToTarget();
}

Other options:

You could use an AsyncTask, that works well for most things running in the background. It has hooks that you can call to indicate the progress, and when it's done.

You could also use Activity.runOnUiThread().

How to check if an option is selected?

use

 $("#mySelectBox option:selected");

to test if its a particular option myoption:

 if($("#mySelectBox option:selected").text() == myoption){
          //...
 }

How to create a HashMap with two keys (Key-Pair, Value)?

You could create your key object something like this:

public class MapKey {

public  Object key1;
public Object key2;

public Object getKey1() {
    return key1;
}

public void setKey1(Object key1) {
    this.key1 = key1;
}

public Object getKey2() {
    return key2;
}

public void setKey2(Object key2) {
    this.key2 = key2;
}

public boolean equals(Object keyObject){

    if(keyObject==null)
        return false;

    if (keyObject.getClass()!= MapKey.class)
        return false;

    MapKey key = (MapKey)keyObject;

    if(key.key1!=null && this.key1==null)
        return false;

    if(key.key2 !=null && this.key2==null)
        return false;

    if(this.key1==null && key.key1 !=null)
        return false;

    if(this.key2==null && key.key2 !=null)
        return false;

    if(this.key1==null && key.key1==null && this.key2 !=null && key.key2 !=null)
        return this.key2.equals(key.key2);

    if(this.key2==null && key.key2==null && this.key1 !=null && key.key1 !=null)
        return this.key1.equals(key.key1);

    return (this.key1.equals(key.key1) && this.key2.equals(key2));
}

public int hashCode(){
    int key1HashCode=key1.hashCode();
    int key2HashCode=key2.hashCode();
    return key1HashCode >> 3 + key2HashCode << 5;
}

}

The advantage of this is: It will always make sure you are covering all the scenario's of Equals as well.

NOTE: Your key1 and key2 should be immutable. Only then will you be able to construct a stable key Object.

Recommended way to get hostname in Java

The most portable way to get the hostname of the current computer in Java is as follows:

import java.net.InetAddress;
import java.net.UnknownHostException;

public class getHostName {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws UnknownHostException {
        InetAddress iAddress = InetAddress.getLocalHost();
        String hostName = iAddress.getHostName();
        //To get the Canonical host name
        String canonicalHostName = iAddress.getCanonicalHostName();

        System.out.println("HostName:" + hostName);
        System.out.println("Canonical Host Name:" + canonicalHostName);
    }
}

When should you NOT use a Rules Engine?

I'm a big fan of Business Rules Engines, since it can help you make your life much easier as a programmer. One of the first experiences I've had while working on a Data Warehouse project was to find Stored Procedures containing complicated CASE structures stretching over entire pages. It was a nightmare to debug, since it was very difficult to understand the logic applied in such long CASE structures, and to determine if you have an overlapping between a rule at page 1 of the code and another from page 5. Overall, we had more than 300 such rules embedded in the code.

When we've received a new development requirement, for something called Accounting Destination, which was involving treating more than 3000 rules, i knew something had to change. Back then I've been working on a prototype which later on become the parent of what now is a Custom Business Rule engine, capable of handling all SQL standard operators. Initially we've been using Excel as an authoring tool and , later on, we've created an ASP.net application which will allow the Business Users to define their own business rules, without the need of writing code. Now the system works fine, with very few bugs, and contains over 7000 rules for calculating this Accounting Destination. I don't think such scenario would have been possible by just hard-coding. And the users are pretty happy that they can define their own rules without IT becoming their bottleneck.

Still, there are limits to such approach:

  • You need to have capable business users which have an excellent understanding of the company business.
  • There is a significant workload on searching the entire system (in our case a Data Warehouse), in order to determine all hard-coded conditions which make sense to translate into rules to be handled by a Business Rule Engine. We've also had to take good care that these initial templates to be fully understandable by Business Users.
  • You need to have an application used for rules authoring, in which algorithms for detection of overlapping business rules is implemented. Otherwise you'll end up with a big mess, where no one understands anymore the results they get. When you have a bug in a generic component like a Custom Business Rule Engine, it can be very difficult to debug and involve extensive tests to make sure that things that worked before also work now.

More details on this topic can be found on a post I've written: http://dwhbp.com/post/2011/10/30/Implementing-a-Business-Rule-Engine.aspx

Overall, the biggest advantage of using a Business Rule Engines is that it allows the users to take back control over the Business Rule definitions and authoring, without the need of going to the IT department each time they need to modify something. It also the reduces the workload over IT development teams, which can now focus on building stuff with more added value.

How to get 0-padded binary representation of an integer in java?

I was trying all sorts of method calls that I haven't really used before to make this work, they worked with moderate success, until I thought of something that is so simple it just might work, and it did!

I'm sure it's been thought of before, not sure if it's any good for long string of binary codes but it works fine for 16Bit strings. Hope it helps!! (Note second piece of code is improved)

String binString = Integer.toBinaryString(256);
  while (binString.length() < 16) {    //pad with 16 0's
        binString = "0" + binString;
  }

Thanks to Will on helping improve this answer to make it work with out a loop. This maybe a little clumsy but it works, please improve and comment back if you can....

binString = Integer.toBinaryString(256);
int length = 16 - binString.length();
char[] padArray = new char[length];
Arrays.fill(padArray, '0');
String padString = new String(padArray);
binString = padString + binString;

Using current time in UTC as default value in PostgreSQL

What about

now()::timestamp

If your other timestamp are without time zone then this cast will yield the matching type "timestamp without time zone" for the current time.

I would like to read what others think about that option, though. I still don't trust in my understanding of this "with/without" time zone stuff.

EDIT: Adding Michael Ekoka's comment here because it clarifies an important point:

Caveat. The question is about generating default timestamp in UTC for a timestamp column that happens to not store the time zone (perhaps because there's no need to store the time zone if you know that all your timestamps share the same). What your solution does is to generate a local timestamp (which for most people will not necessarily be set to UTC) and store it as a naive timestamp (one that does not specify its time zone).

JavaScript Uncaught ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined; Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined

Is there any sizeof-like method in Java?

No. There is no such method in the standard Java SE class library.

The designers' view is that it is not needed in Java, since the language removes the need for an application1 to know about how much space needs to be reserved for a primitive value, an object or an array with a given number of elements.

You might think that a sizeof operator would be useful for people that need to know how much space their data structures take. However you can also get this information and more, simply and reliably using a Java memory profiler, so there is no need for a sizeof method.

Previous commenters made the point that sizeof(someType) would be more readable than 4. If you accept that readability argument, then the remedy is in your hands. Simply define a class like this ...

public class PrimitiveSizes {
    public static int sizeof(byte b) { return 1; }
    public static int sizeof(short s) { return 2; }
    // etcetera
}

... and statically import it ...

import static PrimitiveSizes.*;

Or define some named constants; e.g.

public static final int SIZE_OF_INT = 4;

Or (Java 8 and later) use the Integer.BYTES constant, and so on.

Why haven't the Java designers implemented this in standard libraries? My guess is that:

  • they don't think there is a need for it,
  • they don't think there is sufficient demand for it, and
  • they don't think it is worth the effort.

There is also the issue that the next demand would be for a sizeof(Object o) method, which is fraught with technical difficulties.

The key word in the above is "they"!

1 - A programmer may need to know in order to design space efficient data structures. However, I can't imagine why that information would be needed in application code at runtime via a method call.

Flash CS4 refuses to let go

Flash still has the ASO file, which is the compiled byte code for your classes. On Windows, you can see the ASO files here:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash CS4\en\Configuration\Classes\aso

On a Mac, the directory structure is similar in /Users/username/Library/Application Support/

You can remove those files by hand, or in Flash you can select Control->Delete ASO files to remove them.

print arraylist element?

Your code requires that the Dog class has overridden the toString() method so that it knows how to print itself out. Otherwise, your code looks correct.

jQuery - how can I find the element with a certain id?

If you're trying to find an element by id, you don't need to search the table only - it should be unique on the page, and so you should be able to use:

var verificaHorario = $('#' + horaInicial);

If you need to search only in the table for whatever reason, you can use:

var verificaHorario = $("#tbIntervalos").find("td#" + horaInicial)

get the data of uploaded file in javascript

The example below is based on the html5rocks solution. It uses the browser's FileReader() function. Newer browsers only.

See http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/file/dndfiles/#toc-reading-files

In this example, the user selects an HTML file. It uploaded into the <textarea>.

<form enctype="multipart/form-data">
<input id="upload" type=file   accept="text/html" name="files[]" size=30>
</form>

<textarea class="form-control" rows=35 cols=120 id="ms_word_filtered_html"></textarea>

<script>
function handleFileSelect(evt) {
    var files = evt.target.files; // FileList object

    // use the 1st file from the list
    f = files[0];

    var reader = new FileReader();

    // Closure to capture the file information.
    reader.onload = (function(theFile) {
        return function(e) {

          jQuery( '#ms_word_filtered_html' ).val( e.target.result );
        };
      })(f);

      // Read in the image file as a data URL.
      reader.readAsText(f);
  }

  document.getElementById('upload').addEventListener('change', handleFileSelect, false);
</script>

You could use the Get method and check for null as the method will return null if the NameValueCollection does not contain the specified key.

Bootstrap 4 dropdown with search

As of version 1.13.1 there is support for Bootstrap 4: https://developer.snapappointments.com/bootstrap-select/

The implementation remains exactly the same as it was in Bootstrap 3:

  • add class="selectpicker" and data-live-search="true"to your select
  • add data-tokens to your options. The live search will look into these data-token element when performing the search.

This is an example, taken from the site of the link above:

<select class="selectpicker" data-live-search="true">
  <option data-tokens="ketchup mustard">Hot Dog, Fries and a Soda</option>
  <option data-tokens="mustard">Burger, Shake and a Smile</option>
  <option data-tokens="frosting">Sugar, Spice and all things nice</option>
</select>

Live search for the search term 'fro' will only leave the third option visible (because of the data-tokens "frosting").

Don't forget to include the bootstrap-select CDN .css and .js in your project. I am very glad to see this live search become available again, because it comes in very handy when presenting large dropdown lists to the user.

Adding a new array element to a JSON object

First we need to parse the JSON object and then we can add an item.

var str = '{"theTeam":[{"teamId":"1","status":"pending"},
{"teamId":"2","status":"member"},{"teamId":"3","status":"member"}]}';

var obj = JSON.parse(str);
obj['theTeam'].push({"teamId":"4","status":"pending"});
str = JSON.stringify(obj);

Finally we JSON.stringify the obj back to JSON

How do I do pagination in ASP.NET MVC?

Here's a link that helped me with this.

It uses PagedList.MVC NuGet package. I'll try to summarize the steps

  1. Install the PagedList.MVC NuGet package

  2. Build project

  3. Add using PagedList; to the controller

  4. Modify your action to set page public ActionResult ListMyItems(int? page) { List list = ItemDB.GetListOfItems(); int pageSize = 3; int pageNumber = (page ?? 1); return View(list.ToPagedList(pageNumber, pageSize)); }

  5. Add paging links to the bottom of your view @*Your existing view*@ Page @(Model.PageCount < Model.PageNumber ? 0 : Model.PageNumber) of @Model.PageCount @Html.PagedListPager(Model, page => Url.Action("Index", new { page, sortOrder = ViewBag.CurrentSort, currentFilter = ViewBag.CurrentFilter }))

java.lang.ClassCastException: java.util.LinkedHashMap cannot be cast to com.testing.models.Account

The way I could mitigate the JSON Array to collection of LinkedHashMap objects problem was by using CollectionType rather than a TypeReference . This is what I did and worked:

public <T> List<T> jsonArrayToObjectList(String json, Class<T> tClass) throws IOException {
    ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
    CollectionType listType = mapper.getTypeFactory().constructCollectionType(ArrayList.class, tClass);
    List<T> ts = mapper.readValue(json, listType);
    LOGGER.debug("class name: {}", ts.get(0).getClass().getName());
    return ts;
}

Using the TypeReference, I was still getting an ArrayList of LinkedHashMaps, i.e. does not work:

public <T> List<T> jsonArrayToObjectList(String json, Class<T> tClass) throws IOException {
    ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
    List<T> ts = mapper.readValue(json, new TypeReference<List<T>>(){});
    LOGGER.debug("class name: {}", ts.get(0).getClass().getName());
    return ts;
}

What's the best practice using a settings file in Python?

I Found this the most useful and easy to use https://wiki.python.org/moin/ConfigParserExamples

You just create a "myfile.ini" like:

[SectionOne]
Status: Single
Name: Derek
Value: Yes
Age: 30
Single: True

[SectionTwo]
FavoriteColor=Green
[SectionThree]
FamilyName: Johnson

[Others]
Route: 66

And retrieve the data like:

>>> import ConfigParser
>>> Config = ConfigParser.ConfigParser()
>>> Config
<ConfigParser.ConfigParser instance at 0x00BA9B20>
>>> Config.read("myfile.ini")
['c:\\tomorrow.ini']
>>> Config.sections()
['Others', 'SectionThree', 'SectionOne', 'SectionTwo']
>>> Config.options('SectionOne')
['Status', 'Name', 'Value', 'Age', 'Single']
>>> Config.get('SectionOne', 'Status')
'Single'

How to check what user php is running as?

Proposal

A tad late, but even though the following is a work-around, it solves the requirement as this works just fine:

<?
    function get_sys_usr()
    {
        $unique_name = uniqid();  // not-so-unique id
        $native_path = "./temp/$unique_name.php";
        $public_path = "http://example.com/temp/$unique_name.php";
        $php_content = "<? echo get_current_user(); ?>";
        $process_usr = "apache";  // fall-back

        if (is_readable("./temp") && is_writable("./temp"))
        {
            file_put_contents($native_path,$php_content);
            $process_usr = trim(file_get_contents($public_path));
            unlink($native_path);
        }

        return $process_usr;
    }

    echo get_sys_usr();  // www-data
?>

Description

The code-highlighting above is not accurate, please copy & paste in your favorite editor and view as PHP code, or save and test it yourself.

As you probably know, get_current_user() returns the owner of the "current running script" - so if you did not "chown" a script on the server to the web-server-user it will most probably be "nobody", or if the developer-user exists on the same OS, it will rather display that username.

To work around this, we create a file with the current running process. If you just require() this into the current running script, it will return the same as the parent-script as mentioned; so, we need to run it as a separate request to take effect.

Process-flow

In order to make this effective, consider running a design pattern that incorporates "runtime-mode", so when the server is in "development-mode or test-mode" then only it could run this function and save its output somewhere in an include, -or just plain text or database, or whichever.

Of course you can change some particulars of the code above as you wish to make it more dynamic, but the logic is as follows:

  • define a unique reference to limit interference with other users
  • define a local file-path for writing a temporary file
  • define a public url/path to run this file in its own process
  • write the temporary php file that outputs the script owner name
  • get the output of this script by making a request to it
  • delete the file as it is no longer needed - or leave it if you want
  • return the output of the request as return-value of the function

What's the difference between HEAD, working tree and index, in Git?

A few other good references on those topics:

workflow

I use the index as a checkpoint.

When I'm about to make a change that might go awry — when I want to explore some direction that I'm not sure if I can follow through on or even whether it's a good idea, such as a conceptually demanding refactoring or changing a representation type — I checkpoint my work into the index.

If this is the first change I've made since my last commit, then I can use the local repository as a checkpoint, but often I've got one conceptual change that I'm implementing as a set of little steps.
I want to checkpoint after each step, but save the commit until I've gotten back to working, tested code.

Notes:

  1. the workspace is the directory tree of (source) files that you see and edit.

  2. The index is a single, large, binary file in <baseOfRepo>/.git/index, which lists all files in the current branch, their sha1 checksums, time stamps and the file name -- it is not another directory with a copy of files in it.

  3. The local repository is a hidden directory (.git) including an objects directory containing all versions of every file in the repo (local branches and copies of remote branches) as a compressed "blob" file.

Don't think of the four 'disks' represented in the image above as separate copies of the repo files.

3 states

They are basically named references for Git commits. There are two major types of refs: tags and heads.

  • Tags are fixed references that mark a specific point in history, for example v2.6.29.
  • On the contrary, heads are always moved to reflect the current position of project development.

commits

(note: as commented by Timo Huovinen, those arrows are not what the commits point to, it's the workflow order, basically showing arrows as 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 where 1 is the first commit and 4 is the last)

Now we know what is happening in the project.
But to know what is happening right here, right now there is a special reference called HEAD. It serves two major purposes:

  • it tells Git which commit to take files from when you checkout, and
  • it tells Git where to put new commits when you commit.

When you run git checkout ref it points HEAD to the ref you’ve designated and extracts files from it. When you run git commit it creates a new commit object, which becomes a child of current HEAD. Normally HEAD points to one of the heads, so everything works out just fine.

Full screen background image in an activity

If you have bg.png as your background image then simply:

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"

Padding a table row

The trick is to give padding on the td elements, but make an exception for the first (yes, it's hacky, but sometimes you have to play by the browser's rules):

td {
  padding-top:20px;
  padding-bottom:20px;
  padding-right:20px;
}

td:first-child {
  padding-left:20px;
  padding-right:0;
}

First-child is relatively well supported: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/CSS/:first-child

You can use the same reasoning for the horizontal padding by using tr:first-child td.

Alternatively, exclude the first column by using the not operator. Support for this is not as good right now, though.

td:not(:first-child) {
  padding-top:20px;
  padding-bottom:20px;
  padding-right:20px;
}

How to debug heap corruption errors?

I'd like to add my experience. In the last few days, I solved an instance of this error in my application. In my particular case, the errors in the code were:

  • Removing elements from an STL collection while iterating over it (I believe there are debug flags in Visual Studio to catch these things; I caught it during code review)
  • This one is more complex, I'll divide it in steps:
    • From a native C++ thread, call back into managed code
    • In managed land, call Control.Invoke and dispose a managed object which wraps the native object to which the callback belongs.
    • Since the object is still alive inside the native thread (it will remain blocked in the callback call until Control.Invoke ends). I should clarify that I use boost::thread, so I use a member function as the thread function.
    • Solution: Use Control.BeginInvoke (my GUI is made with Winforms) instead so that the native thread can end before the object is destroyed (the callback's purpose is precisely notifying that the thread ended and the object can be destroyed).

INSERT INTO...SELECT for all MySQL columns

Addition to Mark Byers answer :

Sometimes you also want to insert Hardcoded details else there may be Unique constraint fail etc. So use following in such situation where you override some values of the columns.

INSERT INTO matrimony_domain_details (domain, type, logo_path)
SELECT 'www.example.com', type, logo_path
FROM matrimony_domain_details
WHERE id = 367

Here domain value is added by me me in Hardcoded way to get rid from Unique constraint.

jQuery, checkboxes and .is(":checked")

I'm still experiencing this behavior with jQuery 1.7.2. A simple workaround is to defer the execution of the click handler with setTimeout and let the browser do its magic in the meantime:

$("#myCheckbox").click( function() {
    var that = this;
    setTimeout(function(){
        alert($(that).is(":checked"));
    });
});

Script to Change Row Color when a cell changes text

  for (var i = range.getRow(); i < range.getLastRow(); i++) {
    rowRange = range.offset(i, 0, 1);
    status = rowRange.offset(0, statusColumnOffset).getValue();
    if (status == 'Completed') {
      rowRange.setBackgroundColor("#99CC99");
    } else if (status == 'In Progress') {
      rowRange.setBackgroundColor("#FFDD88");
    } else if (status == 'Not Started') {
      rowRange.setBackgroundColor("#CC6666");
    }
  }
}

//Returns the offset value of the column titled "Status"
//(eg, if the 7th column is labeled "Status", this function returns 6)
function getStatusColumnOffset() {
  lastColumn = SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSheet().getLastColumn();
  var range = SpreadsheetApp.getActiveSheet().getRange(1,1,1,lastColumn);

  for (var i = 0; i < range.getLastColumn(); i++) {
    if (range.offset(0, i, 1, 1).getValue() == "Status") {
      return i;
    }
  }

How do I get the last character of a string?

The other answers contain a lot of needless text and code. Here are two ways to get the last character of a String:

char

char lastChar = myString.charAt(myString.length() - 1);

String

String lastChar = myString.substring(myString.length() - 1);

ActiveRecord find and only return selected columns

pluck(column_name)

This method is designed to perform select by a single column as direct SQL query Returns Array with values of the specified column name The values has same data type as column.

Examples:

Person.pluck(:id) # SELECT people.id FROM people
Person.uniq.pluck(:role) # SELECT DISTINCT role FROM people
Person.where(:confirmed => true).limit(5).pluck(:id)

see http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveRecord/Calculations.html#method-i-pluck

Its introduced rails 3.2 onwards and accepts only single column. In rails 4, it accepts multiple columns

What is __future__ in Python used for and how/when to use it, and how it works

__future__ is a pseudo-module which programmers can use to enable new language features which are not compatible with the current interpreter. For example, the expression 11/4 currently evaluates to 2. If the module in which it is executed had enabled true division by executing:

from __future__ import division

the expression 11/4 would evaluate to 2.75. By importing the __future__ module and evaluating its variables, you can see when a new feature was first added to the language and when it will become the default:

  >>> import __future__
  >>> __future__.division
  _Feature((2, 2, 0, 'alpha', 2), (3, 0, 0, 'alpha', 0), 8192)

iOS 8 Snapshotting a view that has not been rendered results in an empty snapshot

I'm pretty sure this is just a bug in iOS 8.0. It's reproducible with the simplest of POC apps that does nothing more than attempt to present a UIImagePickerController like you're doing above. Furthermore, there's no alternative pattern to displaying the image picker/camera, to my knowledge. You can even download Apple's Using UIImagePickerController sample app, run it, and it will generate the same error out of the box.

That said, the functionality still works for me. Other than the warning/error, do you have issues with the functioning of your app?

Import module from subfolder

There's no need to mess with your PYTHONPATH or sys.path here.

To properly use absolute imports in a package you should include the "root" packagename as well, e.g.:

from dirFoo.dirFoo1.foo1 import Foo1
from dirFoo.dirFoo2.foo2 import Foo2

Or you can use relative imports:

from .dirfoo1.foo1 import Foo1
from .dirfoo2.foo2 import Foo2

In my case I got this message because there's a special char (&) in my connectionstring, remove it then everything's good.

How can I verify a Google authentication API access token?

I need to somehow query Google and ask: Is this access token valid for [email protected]?

No. All you need is request standard login with Federated Login for Google Account Users from your API domain. And only after that you could compare "persistent user ID" with one you have from 'public interface'.

The value of realm is used on the Google Federated Login page to identify the requesting site to the user. It is also used to determine the value of the persistent user ID returned by Google.

So you need be from same domain as 'public interface'.

And do not forget that user needs to be sure that your API could be trusted ;) So Google will ask user if it allows you to check for his identity.

How to get a string after a specific substring?

It's an old question but i faced a very same scenario, i need to split a string using as demiliter the word "low" the problem for me was that i have in the same string the word below and lower.

I solved it using the re module this way

import re

string = '...below...as higher prices mean lower demand to be expected. Generally, a high reading is seen as negative (or bearish), while a low reading is seen as positive (or bullish) for the Korean Won.'

use re.split with regex to match the exact word

stringafterword = re.split('\\blow\\b',string)[-1]
print(stringafterword)
' reading is seen as positive (or bullish) for the Korean Won.'

the generic code is:

re.split('\\bTHE_WORD_YOU_WANT\\b',string)[-1]

Hope this can help someone!

Difference between readFile() and readFileSync()

readFileSync() is synchronous and blocks execution until finished. These return their results as return values. readFile() are asynchronous and return immediately while they function in the background. You pass a callback function which gets called when they finish. let's take an example for non-blocking.

following method read a file as a non-blocking way

var fs = require('fs');
fs.readFile(filename, "utf8", function(err, data) {
        if (err) throw err;
        console.log(data);
});

following is read a file as blocking or synchronous way.

var data = fs.readFileSync(filename);

LOL...If you don't want readFileSync() as blocking way then take reference from the following code. (Native)

var fs = require('fs');
function readFileAsSync(){
    new Promise((resolve, reject)=>{
        fs.readFile(filename, "utf8", function(err, data) {
                if (err) throw err;
                resolve(data);
        });
    });
}

async function callRead(){
    let data = await readFileAsSync();
    console.log(data);
}

callRead();

it's mean behind scenes readFileSync() work same as above(promise) base.

Using 'starts with' selector on individual class names

Try this:

$("div[class]").filter(function() {
    var classNames = this.className.split(/\s+/);
    for (var i=0; i<classNames.length; ++i) {
        if (classNames[i].substr(0, 6) === "apple-") {
            return true;
        }
    }
    return false;
})

How do I pass a datetime value as a URI parameter in asp.net mvc?

Typical format of a URI for ASP .NET MVC is Controller/Action/Id where Id is an integer

I would suggest sending the date value as a parameter rather than as part of the route:

 mysite/Controller/Action?date=21-9-2009 10:20

If it's still giving you problems the date may contain characters that are not allowed in a URI and need to be encoded. Check out:

 encodeURIComponent(yourstring)

It is a method within Javascript.

On the Server Side:

public ActionResult ActionName(string date)
{
     DateTime mydate;
     DateTime.Tryparse(date, out mydate);
}

FYI, any url parameter can be mapped to an action method parameter as long as the names are the same.

Set the location in iPhone Simulator

The kind folks at FutureTap have made the FTLocationSimulator available for free at GitHub. It allows you to prepare a test route using for instance Google Earth, and then have the simulator feed these coordinates to your app.

I've written a blog post about how to use FTLocationSimulator to easily switch between multiple routes during testing of the location features.

How to justify navbar-nav in Bootstrap 3

I know this is an old post but I would like share my solution. I spent several hours trying to make a justified navigation menu. You do not really need to modify anything in bootstrap css. Just need to add the correct class in the html.

   <nav class="nav navbar-default navbar-fixed-top">
        <div class="navbar-header">
            <button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#collapsable-1" aria-expanded="false">
                <span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
                <span class="icon-bar"></span>
                <span class="icon-bar"></span>
                <span class="icon-bar"></span>
            </button>
            <a class="navbar-brand" href="#top">Brand Name</a>
        </div>
        <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="collapsable-1">
            <ul class="nav nav-justified">
                <li><a href="#about-me">About Me</a></li>
                <li><a href="#skills">Skills</a></li>
                <li><a href="#projects">Projects</a></li>
                <li><a href="#contact-me">Contact Me</a></li>
            </ul>
        </div>
    </nav>

This CSS code will simply remove the navbar-brand class when the screen reaches 768px.

media@(min-width: 768px){
   .navbar-brand{
        display: none;
    }
}

Sockets: Discover port availability using Java

In my case it helped to try and connect to the port - if service is already present, it would respond.

    try {

        Socket sock = new Socket("localhost", portNumber);

            return true;
    }
        log.error("Troubles checking if port is open", e);
        throw new RuntimeException(e);

Seeing the console's output in Visual Studio 2010?

You could create 2 small methods, one that can be called at the beginning of the program, the other at the end. You could also use Console.Read(), so that the program doesn't close after the last write line.

This way you can determine when your functionality gets executed and also when the program exists.

startProgram()
{
     Console.WriteLine("-------Program starts--------");
     Console.Read();
}

endProgram()
{
    Console.WriteLine("-------Program Ends--------");
    Console.Read();
}

The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Ntlm'

For me the solution was besides using "Ntlm" as credential type, similar as Jeroen K's solution. If I had the permission level I would plus on his post, but let me post my whole code here, which will support both Windows and other credential types like basic auth:

    XxxSoapClient xxxClient = new XxxSoapClient();
    ApplyCredentials(userName, password, xxxClient.ClientCredentials);

    private static void ApplyCredentials(string userName, string password, ClientCredentials clientCredentials)
    {
        clientCredentials.UserName.UserName = userName;
        clientCredentials.UserName.Password = password;
        clientCredentials.Windows.ClientCredential.UserName = userName;
        clientCredentials.Windows.ClientCredential.Password = password;
        clientCredentials.Windows.AllowNtlm = true;
        clientCredentials.Windows.AllowedImpersonationLevel = System.Security.Principal.TokenImpersonationLevel.Impersonation;
    }

Returning null in a method whose signature says return int?

int is a primitive, null is not a value that it can take on. You could change the method return type to return java.lang.Integer and then you can return null, and existing code that returns int will get autoboxed.

Nulls are assigned only to reference types, it means the reference doesn't point to anything. Primitives are not reference types, they are values, so they are never set to null.

Using the object wrapper java.lang.Integer as the return value means you are passing back an Object and the object reference can be null.

How to margin the body of the page (html)?

Try using CSS.

Where is SQLite database stored on disk?

If you are running Rails (its the default db in Rails) check the {RAILS_ROOT}/config/database.yml file and you will see something like:

database: db/development.sqlite3

This means that it will be in the {RAILS_ROOT}/db directory.

How To have Dynamic SQL in MySQL Stored Procedure

I don't believe MySQL supports dynamic sql. You can do "prepared" statements which is similar, but different.

Here is an example:

mysql> PREPARE stmt FROM
    -> 'select count(*)
    -> from information_schema.schemata
    -> where schema_name = ? or schema_name = ?'
;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
Statement prepared
mysql> EXECUTE stmt
    -> USING @schema1,@schema2
+----------+
| count(*) |
+----------+
|        2 |
+----------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
mysql> DEALLOCATE PREPARE stmt;

The prepared statements are often used to see an execution plan for a given query. Since they are executed with the execute command and the sql can be assigned to a variable you can approximate the some of the same behavior as dynamic sql.

Here is a good link about this:

Don't forget to deallocate the stmt using the last line!

Good Luck!

Programmatically shut down Spring Boot application

Closing a SpringApplication basically means closing the underlying ApplicationContext. The SpringApplication#run(String...) method gives you that ApplicationContext as a ConfigurableApplicationContext. You can then close() it yourself.

For example,

@SpringBootApplication
public class Example {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ConfigurableApplicationContext ctx = SpringApplication.run(Example.class, args);
        // ...determine it's time to shut down...
        ctx.close();
    }
}

Alternatively, you can use the static SpringApplication.exit(ApplicationContext, ExitCodeGenerator...) helper method to do it for you. For example,

@SpringBootApplication
public class Example {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ConfigurableApplicationContext ctx = SpringApplication.run(Example.class, args);
        // ...determine it's time to stop...
        int exitCode = SpringApplication.exit(ctx, new ExitCodeGenerator() {
            @Override
            public int getExitCode() {
                // no errors
                return 0;
            }
        });

        // or shortened to
        // int exitCode = SpringApplication.exit(ctx, () -> 0);

        System.exit(exitCode);
    }
}

C# Validating input for textbox on winforms

Description

There are many ways to validate your TextBox. You can do this on every keystroke, at a later time, or on the Validating event.

The Validating event gets fired if your TextBox looses focus. When the user clicks on a other Control, for example. If your set e.Cancel = true the TextBox doesn't lose the focus.

MSDN - Control.Validating Event When you change the focus by using the keyboard (TAB, SHIFT+TAB, and so on), by calling the Select or SelectNextControl methods, or by setting the ContainerControl.ActiveControl property to the current form, focus events occur in the following order

Enter

GotFocus

Leave

Validating

Validated

LostFocus

When you change the focus by using the mouse or by calling the Focus method, focus events occur in the following order:

Enter

GotFocus

LostFocus

Leave

Validating

Validated

Sample Validating Event

private void textBox1_Validating(object sender, CancelEventArgs e)
{
    if (textBox1.Text != "something")
        e.Cancel = true;
}

Update

You can use the ErrorProvider to visualize that your TextBox is not valid. Check out Using Error Provider Control in Windows Forms and C#

How do I reference to another (open or closed) workbook, and pull values back, in VBA? - Excel 2007

You will have to open the file in one way or another if you want to access the data within it. Obviously, one way is to open it in your Excel application instance, e.g.:-

(untested code)

Dim wbk As Workbook
Set wbk = Workbooks.Open("C:\myworkbook.xls")

' now you can manipulate the data in the workbook anyway you want, e.g. '

Dim x As Variant
x = wbk.Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A6").Value

Call wbk.Worksheets("Sheet2").Range("A1:G100").Copy
Call ThisWorbook.Worksheets("Target").Range("A1").PasteSpecial(xlPasteValues)
Application.CutCopyMode = False

' etc '

Call wbk.Close(False)

Another way to do it would be to use the Excel ADODB provider to open a connection to the file and then use SQL to select data from the sheet you want, but since you are anyway working from within Excel I don't believe there is any reason to do this rather than just open the workbook. Note that there are optional parameters for the Workbooks.Open() method to open the workbook as read-only, etc.

How to 'insert if not exists' in MySQL?

Any simple constraint should do the job, if an exception is acceptable. Examples :

  • primary key if not surrogate
  • unique constraint on a column
  • multi-column unique constraint

Sorry is this seems deceptively simple. I know it looks bad confronted to the link you share with us. ;-(

But I neverleless give this answer, because it seem to fill your need. (If not, it may trigger your updating your requirements, which would be "a Good Thing"(TM) also).

Edited: If an insert would break the database unique constraint, an exception is throw at the database level, relayed by the driver. It will certainly stop your script, with a failure. It must be possible in PHP to adress that case ...

Reference an Element in a List of Tuples

The code

my_list = [(1, 2), (3, 4), (5, 6)]
for t in my_list:
    print t

prints

(1, 2)
(3, 4)
(5, 6)

The loop iterates over my_list, and assigns the elements of my_list to t one after the other. The elements of my_list happen to be tuples, so t will always be a tuple. To access the first element of the tuple t, use t[0]:

for t in my_list:
    print t[0]

To access the first element of the tuple at the given index i in the list, you can use

print my_list[i][0]

PHP date time greater than today

You are not comparing dates. You are comparing strings. In the world of string comparisons, 09/17/2015 > 01/02/2016 because 09 > 01. You need to either put your date in a comparable string format or compare DateTime objects which are comparable.

<?php
 $date_now = date("Y-m-d"); // this format is string comparable

if ($date_now > '2016-01-02') {
    echo 'greater than';
}else{
    echo 'Less than';
}

Demo

Or

<?php
 $date_now = new DateTime();
 $date2    = new DateTime("01/02/2016");

if ($date_now > $date2) {
    echo 'greater than';
}else{
    echo 'Less than';
}

Where can I find a list of Mac virtual key codes?

The more canonical reference is in <HIToolbox/Events.h>:

/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Headers/Events.h

In newer Versions of MacOS the "Events.h" moved to here:

/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Headers/Events.h

Shell Script: How to write a string to file and to stdout on console?

Use the tee command:

Map and Reduce in .NET

The classes of problem that are well suited for a mapreduce style solution are problems of aggregation. Of extracting data from a dataset. In C#, one could take advantage of LINQ to program in this style.

From the following article: http://codecube.net/2009/02/mapreduce-in-c-using-linq/

the GroupBy method is acting as the map, while the Select method does the job of reducing the intermediate results into the final list of results.

var wordOccurrences = words
                .GroupBy(w => w)
                .Select(intermediate => new
                {
                    Word = intermediate.Key,
                    Frequency = intermediate.Sum(w => 1)
                })
                .Where(w => w.Frequency > 10)
                .OrderBy(w => w.Frequency);

For the distributed portion, you could check out DryadLINQ: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/dryadlinq/default.aspx

Dynamic classname inside ngClass in angular 2

Is basically duplication of the other answers - but I didn't get it completely. maybe someone will finally understand it with this example now.

[ngClass]="['svg-icon', 'recolor-' + recolor, size ? 'size-' + size : '']"

will result for e.g. in

class="svg-icon recolor-red size-m"

Stretch background image css?

You can't stretch a background image (until CSS 3).

You would have to use absolute positioning, so that you can put an image tag inside the cell and stretch it to cover the entire cell, then put the content on top of the image.

How do I use a regex in a shell script?

I think this is what you want:

REGEX_DATE='^\d{2}[/-]\d{2}[/-]\d{4}$'

echo "$1" | grep -P -q $REGEX_DATE
echo $?

I've used the -P switch to get perl regex.

ConnectivityManager getNetworkInfo(int) deprecated

Many answers still use getNetworkType below 23 which is deprecated; use below code to check if the device has an internet connection.

public static boolean isNetworkConnected(Context context) {

    ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) context.getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);

    if (cm != null) {
        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.M) {
            NetworkCapabilities capabilities = cm.getNetworkCapabilities(cm.getActiveNetwork());
            return capabilities != null && (capabilities.hasTransport(NetworkCapabilities.TRANSPORT_WIFI) || capabilities.hasTransport(NetworkCapabilities.TRANSPORT_CELLULAR));
        } else {
            NetworkInfo activeNetwork = cm.getActiveNetworkInfo();
            return activeNetwork != null && activeNetwork.isConnected();
        }
    }

    return false;
}

..

And, do not forget to add this line in Manifest

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" />

Passing struct to function

The line function implementation should be:

void addStudent(struct student person) {

}

person is not a type but a variable, you cannot use it as the type of a function parameter.

Also, make sure your struct is defined before the prototype of the function addStudent as the prototype uses it.

ggplot geom_text font size control

Here are a few options for changing text / label sizes

library(ggplot2)

# Example data using mtcars

a <- aggregate(mpg ~ vs + am , mtcars, function(i) round(mean(i)))

p <- ggplot(mtcars, aes(factor(vs), y=mpg, fill=factor(am))) +
            geom_bar(stat="identity",position="dodge") +
            geom_text(data = a, aes(label = mpg),
                            position = position_dodge(width=0.9),  size=20)

The size in the geom_text changes the size of the geom_text labels.

p <- p + theme(axis.text = element_text(size = 15)) # changes axis labels

p <- p + theme(axis.title = element_text(size = 25)) # change axis titles

p <- p + theme(text = element_text(size = 10)) # this will change all text size
                                                             # (except geom_text)

For this And why size of 10 in geom_text() is different from that in theme(text=element_text()) ?

Yes, they are different. I did a quick manual check and they appear to be in the ratio of ~ (14/5) for geom_text sizes to theme sizes.

So a horrible fix for uniform sizes is to scale by this ratio

geom.text.size = 7
theme.size = (14/5) * geom.text.size

ggplot(mtcars, aes(factor(vs), y=mpg, fill=factor(am))) +
  geom_bar(stat="identity",position="dodge") +
  geom_text(data = a, aes(label = mpg),
            position = position_dodge(width=0.9),  size=geom.text.size) +
  theme(axis.text = element_text(size = theme.size, colour="black"))

This of course doesn't explain why? and is a pita (and i assume there is a more sensible way to do this)

How to execute a Windows command on a remote PC?

psexec \\RemoteComputer cmd.exe

or use ssh or TeamViewer or RemoteDesktop!

init-param and context-param

<init-param> will be used if you want to initialize some parameter for a particular servlet. When request come to servlet first its init method will be called then doGet/doPost whereas if you want to initialize some variable for whole application you will need to use <context-param> . Every servlet will have access to the context variable.

How to force Eclipse to ask for default workspace?

Starting eclipse with eclipse -clean did wonders for me.

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it

Try to open Services Window, by writing services.msc into Start->Run and hit Enter.

When window appears, then find SQL Browser service, right click and choose Properties, and then in dropdown list choose Automatic, or Manual, whatever you want, and click OK. Eventually, if not started immediately, you can again press right click on this service and click Start.

Google Chrome "window.open" workaround?

This worked for me:

newwindow = window.open(url, "_blank", "resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes, titlebar=yes, width=800, height=900, top=10, left=10");
