How to stop EditText from gaining focus at Activity startup in Android

The problem seems to come from a property that I can only see in the XML form of the layout.

Make sure to remove this line at the end of the declaration within the EditText XML tags:

<requestFocus />

That should give something like that :

Adding some information here, as it took me awhile to find the hadoop jobtracker web-dashboard in HDInsight (Azure's Hadoop), and a colleague finally showed me where it was. There is a shortcut on the head node called "Hadoop Yarn Status" which is just a link to a local http page (http://headnodehost:9014/cluster in my case). When opened the dashboard looked like this:

In that dashboard you can find your failed application, and then after clicking into it you can look at the logs of the individual map and reduce jobs.

In my case it seemed to still be running out of memory in the reducers, even though I had cranked the memory in the configuration already. For some reason it was not surfacing the "java outofmemory" errors I got earlier though.

Note that public key is generated from the private key and ssh uses the identity file (private key file) to generate and send public key to server and un-encrypt the encrypted token from the server via the private key in identity file.

duplicate 'row.names' are not allowed error

It seems the problem can arise from more than one reasons. Following two steps worked when I was having same error.

  1. I saved my file as MS-DOS csv. ( Earlier it was saved in as just csv , excel starter 2010 ). Opened the csv in notepad++. No coma was inconsistent (consistency as described above @Brian).
  2. Noticed I was not using argument sep="," . I used and it worked ( even though that is default argument!)

SQL - Update multiple records in one query

in my case I have to update the records which are more than 1000, for this instead of hitting the update query each time I preferred this,

78,77 are the user Ids and for those user id I need to update the base_id 999 and 88 respectively.This works for me.

Here's a different approach. The heart of it was created by turning on the Macro Recorder and filtering the columns per your specifications. Then there's a bit of code to copy the results. It will run faster than looping through each row and column:

As a side note, your code has more loops and counter variables than necessary. You wouldn't need to loop through the columns, just through the rows. You'd then check the various cells of interest in that row, much like you did.

The direct way to write x or y or z == 0 is

Adding a public key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys does not log me in automatically

I have the home directory in a non-standard location and in sshd logs I have the following line, even if all permissions were just fine (see the other answers):

  • Added a new line in /etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts.homedirs:

WAMP shows error 'MSVCR100.dll' is missing when install

Re/installing .NET framework did not worked for me. Some less professional soft wares like tuneup utilities manipulate or constantly keep in use .NET framework files. like that .dll . I learned it while i was trying to uninstall .NET updates before re-installation.

  • Dont forget to uninstall wamp from control panel before reinstalling it.
  • Uninstalling .NET updates of windows. (controlPanel->uninstall a
  • program->view updates) Uninstalling soft wares that prevents
  • uninstalling .NETs . Finished successfully uninstalling .NET
  • framework updates. Check windows updates. Install updates that shows up AFTER check (.NET framework update. 3update for me under win7x64)
  • install wamp (finished flawlessly for me)

How good is Java's UUID.randomUUID?

Many of the answers discuss how many UUIDs would have to be generated to reach a 50% chance of a collision. But a 50%, 25%, or even 1% chance of collision is worthless for an application where collision must be (virtually) impossible.

Do programmers routinely dismiss as "impossible" other events that can and do occur?

When we write data to a disk or memory and read it back again, we take for granted that the data are correct. We rely on the device's error correction to detect any corruption. But the chance of undetected errors is actually around 2-50.

Wouldn't it make sense to apply a similar standard to random UUIDs? If you do, you will find that an "impossible" collision is possible in a collection of around 100 billion random UUIDs (236.5).

This is an astronomical number, but applications like itemized billing in a national healthcare system, or logging high frequency sensor data on a large array of devices could definitely bump into these limits. If you are writing the next Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, don't try to assign UUIDs to each article!

How to detect if JavaScript is disabled?

You can use a simple JS snippet to set the value of a hidden field. When posted back you know if JS was enabled or not.

Or you can try to open a popup window that you close rapidly (but that might be visible).

Also you have the NOSCRIPT tag that you can use to show text for browsers with JS disabled.

Color text in discord

Discord doesn't allow colored text. Though, currently, you have two options to "mimic" colored text.

Option #1 (Markdown code-blocks)

Discord supports Markdown and uses highlight.js to highlight code-blocks. Some programming languages have specific color outputs from highlight.js and can be used to mimic colored output.

To use code-blocks, send a normal message in this format (Which follows Markdown's standard format).

Combine two tables that have no common fields

To get a meaningful/useful view of the two tables, you normally need to determine an identifying field from each table that can then be used in the ON clause in a JOIN.

THen in your view:

SELECT T1.*, T2.* FROM T1 JOIN T2 ON T1.IDFIELD1 = T2.IDFIELD2

You mention no fields are "common", but although the identifying fields may not have the same name or even be the same data type, you could use the convert / cast functions to join them in some way.

Last executed queries for a specific database

This works for me to find queries on any database in the instance. I'm sysadmin on the instance (check your privileges):

Javascript call() & apply() vs bind()?

bind function should be use when we want to assign a function with particular context for eg.

in above example if we call demo.setValue() function and pass this.getValue function directly then it doesn't call demo.setValue function directly because this in setTimeout refers to window object so we need to pass demo object context to this.getValue function using bind. it means we only passing function with the context of demo object not actully calling function.

How to modify a specified commit?

If for some reason you don't like interactive editors, you can use git rebase --onto.

Say you want to modify Commit1. First, branch from before Commit1:

git checkout -b amending [commit before Commit1]

Second, grab Commit1 with cherry-pick:

git cherry-pick Commit1

Now, amend your changes, creating Commit1':

git add ...
git commit --amend -m "new message for Commit1"

And finally, after having stashed any other changes, transplant the rest of your commits up to master on top of your new commit:

git rebase --onto amending Commit1 master

Read: "rebase, onto the branch amending, all commits between Commit1 (non-inclusive) and master (inclusive)". That is, Commit2 and Commit3, cutting the old Commit1 out entirely. You could just cherry-pick them, but this way is easier.

Remember to clean up your branches!

git branch -d amending

tar -zcv --exclude='folder' -f theOutputTarFile.tar folderToTar

Note the -f after the --exclude=

I also used the bash4 way but I find and annoying bug.

I needed to update dynamically the associative array content so i used this way:

I find out that with bash 4.3.11 appending to an existing key in the dict resulted in appending the value if already present. So for example after some repetion the content of the value was "checkKOcheckKOallCheckOK" and this was not good.

No problem with bash 4.3.39 where appenging an existent key means to substisture the actuale value if already present.

I solved this just cleaning/declaring the statusCheck associative array before the cicle:

unset statusCheck; declare -A statusCheck

I need a System Time independent Stopwatch so I did translate my old C++ class into Python:

VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for both all CPU modes (VERR_VMX_MSR_ALL_VMX_DISABLED)

I had this issue when tried to run a 32-bit OS with more than 3584 MB of RAM allocated for it. Setting the guest OS RAM to 3584 MB and less helped.

But i ended just enabling the flag in BIOS nevertheless.

If you are running out of connections like this, chances are excellent that you are not closing the connections that you have open.

Review code that opens connections and ensure the connections are closed as soon as practical. Typically you want to make use of the using keyword around anything that implements IDisposable (including database connections) to ensure that such objects are disposed as soon as they leave the scope where they are needed.

I know about Android ICS that it uses a custom service called: NetworkTimeUpdateService. This service also implements a NTP time synchronization via the NtpTrustedTime singleton.

If you want just to get the value, you can use simple shell oneliner like this:

It will show you the average "received bytes per second" for period of 10 seconds (you can change period by changing S=10 parameter, and you can measure transmitted BPS instead of received BPS by using tx_bytes instead of rx_bytes). Don't forget to change eth0 to network device you want to monitor.

Of course, you are not limited to displaying the average rate (as mentioned in other answers, there are other tools that will show you much nicer output), but this solution is easily scriptable to do other things.

For example, the following shell script (split into multiple lines for readability) will execute offlineimap process only when 5-minute average transmit speed drops below 10kBPS (presumably, when some other bandwidth-consuming process finishes):

Note that /sys/class/... is Linux specific (which is ok as submitter did choose linux tag), and needs non-archaic kernel. Shell code itself is /bin/sh compatible (so not only bash, but dash and other /bin/sh implementations will work) and /bin/sh is something that is really always installed.

When I first started working with CodeIgniter, not using GET really threw me off as well. But then I realized that you can simulate GET parameters by manipulating the URI using the built-in URI Class. It's fantastic and it makes your URLs look better.

It looks like this is the case when Chrome is not compliant with WebSocket standard. When the server initiates close and sends close frame to a client, Chrome considers this to be an error and reports it to JS side with code 1006 and no reason message. In my tests, Chrome never responds to server-initiated close frames (close code 1000) suggesting that code 1006 probably means that Chrome is reporting its own internal error.

P.S. Firefox v57.00 handles this case properly and successfully delivers server's reason message to JS side.

Windows batch file file download from a URL

Downloading files in PURE BATCH... Without any JScript, VBScript, Powershell, etc... Only pure Batch!

Some people are saying it's not possible of downloading files with a batch script without using any JScript or VBScript, etc... But they are definitely wrong!

Here is a simple method that seems to work pretty well for downloading files in your batch scripts. It should be working on almost any file's URL. It is even possible to use a proxy server if you need it.

For downloading files, we can use BITSADMIN.EXE from the Windows system. There is no need for downloading/installing anything or using any JScript or VBScript, etc. Bitsadmin.exe is present on most Windows versions, probably from XP to Windows 10.

For those who are still stumped with this problem (I tried all the above suggestions) --

If you're on a 64-bit version of Windows and you've installed the 32-bit JDK, besides adjusting PATH variables, you may need to adjust registry variables, too.

I was pulling my hair out, having correctly set my PATH variables -- still to no avail -- and then only finding "vacated" Java entries in my registry, seemingly a deadend of fixing the "misfiring" Java Runtime Environment.

By using Process Monitor to watch the program I was trying to get started, in order to sniff out where it was looking in the registry for Java (Runtime Environment), I triumphantly discovered that it's looking in the 32-bit version of registry entries, found in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\**Wow6432Node**\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment.

Within that key, you should find subkeys of different Java versions installed (past and/or present). Click on the subkey of the latest version (my subkey is currently 1.7.0_25, for example). After clicking on that subkey, you'll see registry string values listed on the right, and particularly, JavaHome and RuntimeLib. You need to modify the values of those two values to reflect the both the current folder and jvm.dll file, respectively.

For example, in my case, the values were (previously) respectively set at C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7 and C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\client\jvm.dll which are nonexistent on my machine. I had to update these to the current folder and file of C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_25\jre and C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_25\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll.

Again, this will depend entirely on both what version of Java (JDK and/or JRE) you have installed -- 32 or 64-bit -- and what type of operating system you're on -- 32 or 64-bit. Just know that they're reflected in different locations within the registry (like the Wow6432Node for 32 bit applications, in my case with the 32-bit JDK installed on a 64-bit machine).

Now that I've updated those two registry values, my program runs flawlessly, with no more hiccups or complaints about a missing Java Runtime Environment (stemming from the registry).

Whenever I see addClass and removeClass I think why not just use toggleClass. In this case we can remove the .clickable class to avoid event bubbling, and to avoid the event from being fired on everything we click inside of the .clickable div.

It sounds like the Xml may not be well formed. If that is the case, then you will not be able to cast it as Xml and given that, you are limited in how much text you can return in Management Studio. However, you could break up the text into smaller chunks like so:

It sounds like there are some characters in the text data that the Xml parser does not like. You could try converting those values to entities and then try the Convert(xml, data) trick. So something like:

Your problem is that, if the user clicks cancel, operationType is null and thus throws a NullPointerException. I would suggest that you move

This will make the program exit just as if the user had selected the quit option when the cancel button is pushed.

Then, change all the rest of the ifs to else ifs. This way, once the program sees whether or not the input is null, it doesn't try to call anything else on operationType. This has the added benefit of making it more efficient - once the program sees that the input is one of the options, it won't bother checking it against the rest of them.

Here's how I successfully upgraded from v0.8.18 to v0.10.20 without any other requirements like brew etc, (type these commands in the terminal):

  1. sudo npm cache clean -f (force) clear you npm cache
  2. sudo npm install -g n install n (this might take a while)
  3. sudo n stable upgrade to the current stable version

Note that sudo might prompt your password.

Additional note regarding step 3: stable can be exchanged for latest, lts (long term support) or any specific version number such as 0.10.20.

If the version number doesn't show up when typing node -v, you might have to reboot.

If you start to do something like this, then I would say it starts to get a bit strange and you're better off moving it to a seperate method that returns a result upon the matchedCondition.

You could of course just set i and j to Integer.MAX_VALUE, but I think you can see this starts to get messy very quickly. :)

Note(and solution): IDE: I tried using Visual Studio 2010, but just a few sconds ago got this all to work, it seems like I missed it in the manual, but it suggests to use Visual Studio 2008. I downloaded and installed VS2008 Express for c++, followed the steps in chapter 5 of manual and errors are gone! It works. I'm happy, problem solved. Except for the one on how to get it to work on newer versions of visual studio. You should try the mysql for visual studio addon which maybe will get vs2010 or higher to connect successfully. It can be downloaded from mysql website

Whilst trying to get the example mentioned above to work, I find myself here from difficulties due to changes to the mysql dev website. I apologise for writing this as an answer, since I can't comment yet, and will edit this as I discover what to do and find the solution, so that future developers can be helped.(Since this has gotten so big it wouldn't have fitted as a comment anyways, haha)

Yes it may differ but there are some limitations.

Before Java 5.0, when you override a method, both parameters and return type must match exactly. Java 5.0 it introduces a new facility called covariant return type. You can override a method with the same signature but return a subclass of the object returned.

In another words, a method in a subclass can return an object whose type is a subclass of the type returned by the method with the same signature in the superclass.

As well as \singlespacing mentioned previously to reduce the height of the table, a useful way to reduce the width of the table is to add \tabcolsep=0.11cm before the \begin{tabular} command and take out all the vertical lines between columns. It's amazing how much space is used up between the columns of text. You could reduce the font size to something smaller than \small but I normally wouldn't use anything smaller than \footnotesize.

No, absolutely positioning does not conflict with flex containers. Making an element be a flex container only affects its inner layout model, that is, the way in which its contents are laid out. Positioning affects the element itself, and can alter its outer role for flow layout.

That means that

  • If you add absolute positioning to an element with display: inline-flex, it will become block-level (like display: flex), but will still generate a flex formatting context.

  • If you add absolute positioning to an element with display: flex, it will be sized using the shrink-to-fit algorithm (typical of inline-level containers) instead of the fill-available one.

That said, absolutely positioning conflicts with flex children.

As it is out-of-flow, an absolutely-positioned child of a flex container does not participate in flex layout.

I've been looking at this problem for the better part of a day, and here's what I've come up with (credit to https://stackoverflow.com/a/5249214/196358 for pointing me in this direction).

(Note: I'm using flask-sqlalchemy, so my model declaration format is a bit different from straight sqlalchemy).

Does reading an entire file leave the file handle open?

The answer to that question depends somewhat on the particular Python implementation.

To understand what this is all about, pay particular attention to the actual file object. In your code, that object is mentioned only once, in an expression, and becomes inaccessible immediately after the read() call returns.

This means that the file object is garbage. The only remaining question is "When will the garbage collector collect the file object?".

in CPython, which uses a reference counter, this kind of garbage is noticed immediately, and so it will be collected immediately. This is not generally true of other python implementations.

A better solution, to make sure that the file is closed, is this pattern:

with open('Path/to/file', 'r') as content_file:
    content = content_file.read()

which will always close the file immediately after the block ends; even if an exception occurs.

Edit: To put a finer point on it:

Other than file.__exit__(), which is "automatically" called in a with context manager setting, the only other way that file.close() is automatically called (that is, other than explicitly calling it yourself,) is via file.__del__(). This leads us to the question of when does __del__() get called?

A correctly-written program cannot assume that finalizers will ever run at any point prior to program termination.

What does the DOCKER_HOST variable do?

Ok, I think I got it.

The client is the docker command installed into OS X.

The host is the Boot2Docker VM.

The daemon is a background service running inside Boot2Docker.

This variable tells the client how to connect to the daemon.

When starting Boot2Docker, the terminal window that pops up already has DOCKER_HOST set, so that's why docker commands work. However, to run Docker commands in other terminal windows, you need to set this variable in those windows.

Failing to set it gives a message like this:

Your Customer class has to be discovered by CDI as a bean. For that you have two options:

  1. Put a bean defining annotation on it. As @Model is a stereotype it's why it does the trick. A qualifier like @Named is not a bean defining annotation, reason why it doesn't work

  2. Change the bean discovery mode in your bean archive from the default "annotated" to "all" by adding a beans.xml file in your jar.

Keep in mind that @Named has only one usage : expose your bean to the UI. Other usages are for bad practice or compatibility with legacy framework.

Basically doing String.intern() on a series of strings will ensure that all strings having same contents share same memory. So if you have list of names where 'john' appears 1000 times, by interning you ensure only one 'john' is actually allocated memory.

This can be useful to reduce memory requirements of your program. But be aware that the cache is maintained by JVM in permanent memory pool which is usually limited in size compared to heap so you should not use intern if you don't have too many duplicate values.

The problem is that the internalized strings go to the Permanent Generation, which is an area of the JVM that is reserved for non-user objects, like Classes, Methods and other internal JVM objects. The size of this area is limited, and is usually much smaller than the heap. Calling intern() on a String has the effect of moving it out from the heap into the permanent generation, and you risk running out of PermGen space.

I stumbled across this attempting to solve the same issue. The installation I am working with uses JBOSS and Hibernate, so I had to do this a different way. For the basic case, you should be able to add zeroDateTimeBehavior=convertToNull to your connection URI as per this configuration properties page.

I found other suggestions across the land referring to putting that parameter in your hibernate config:

In hibernate.cfg.xml:

<property name="hibernate.connection.zeroDateTimeBehavior">convertToNull</property>

In hibernate.properties:

hibernate.connection.zeroDateTimeBehavior=convertToNull

But I had to put it in my mysql-ds.xml file for JBOSS as:

That particular phrasing is by James Iry, from his highly entertaining Brief, Incomplete and Mostly Wrong History of Programming Languages, in which he fictionally attributes it to Philip Wadler.

The original quote is from Saunders Mac Lane in Categories for the Working Mathematician, one of the foundational texts of Category Theory. Here it is in context, which is probably the best place to learn exactly what it means.

But, I'll take a stab. The original sentence is this:

All told, a monad in X is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors of X, with product × replaced by composition of endofunctors and unit set by the identity endofunctor.

X here is a category. Endofunctors are functors from a category to itself (which is usually all Functors as far as functional programmers are concerned, since they're mostly dealing with just one category; the category of types - but I digress). But you could imagine another category which is the category of "endofunctors on X". This is a category in which the objects are endofunctors and the morphisms are natural transformations.

And of those endofunctors, some of them might be monads. Which ones are monads? Exactly the ones which are monoidal in a particular sense. Instead of spelling out the exact mapping from monads to monoids (since Mac Lane does that far better than I could hope to), I'll just put their respective definitions side by side and let you compare:

A monoid is...

  • A set, S
  • An operation, • : S × S ? S
  • An element of S, e : 1 ? S

...satisfying these laws:
