iOS 7 - Failing to instantiate default view controller

Check if you have the window var in the AppDelegate.

var window: UIWindow?

And also check the storyboard of your Info.plist file.

<key>UIMainStoryboardFile</key>
<string>Main</string>

Programmatically setting the rootViewController in the AppDelegate is not going to fix the warning. You should choose whether to let to the storyboard set the view controller or do it programmatically.

Python: tf-idf-cosine: to find document similarity

WIth the Help of @excray's comment, I manage to figure it out the answer, What we need to do is actually write a simple for loop to iterate over the two arrays that represent the train data and test data.

First implement a simple lambda function to hold formula for the cosine calculation:

cosine_function = lambda a, b : round(np.inner(a, b)/(LA.norm(a)*LA.norm(b)), 3)

And then just write a simple for loop to iterate over the to vector, logic is for every "For each vector in trainVectorizerArray, you have to find the cosine similarity with the vector in testVectorizerArray."

from sklearn.feature_extraction.text import CountVectorizer
from sklearn.feature_extraction.text import TfidfTransformer
from nltk.corpus import stopwords
import numpy as np
import numpy.linalg as LA

train_set = ["The sky is blue.", "The sun is bright."] #Documents
test_set = ["The sun in the sky is bright."] #Query
stopWords = stopwords.words('english')

vectorizer = CountVectorizer(stop_words = stopWords)
#print vectorizer
transformer = TfidfTransformer()
#print transformer

trainVectorizerArray = vectorizer.fit_transform(train_set).toarray()
testVectorizerArray = vectorizer.transform(test_set).toarray()
print 'Fit Vectorizer to train set', trainVectorizerArray
print 'Transform Vectorizer to test set', testVectorizerArray
cx = lambda a, b : round(np.inner(a, b)/(LA.norm(a)*LA.norm(b)), 3)

for vector in trainVectorizerArray:
    print vector
    for testV in testVectorizerArray:
        print testV
        cosine = cx(vector, testV)
        print cosine

transformer.fit(trainVectorizerArray)
print
print transformer.transform(trainVectorizerArray).toarray()

transformer.fit(testVectorizerArray)
print
tfidf = transformer.transform(testVectorizerArray)
print tfidf.todense()

Here is the output:

Fit Vectorizer to train set [[1 0 1 0]

Jupyter Notebook not saving: '_xsrf' argument missing from post

When I click 'save' button, it has this error. Based on the answers in this post and other websites, I just found the solution. My jupyter notebook is installed from pip. So I access it by typing 'jupyter notebook' in the windows command line.

(1) open a new command window, then open a new jupyter notebook. try to save again in the old notebook, this time ,the error is 'fail: forbidden'

(2) Then in the old notebook, click 'download as', it will pop out a new windows ask you the token.

enter image description here

(3) open another command window, then open another jupyter notebook, type 'jupyter notebook list' copy the code after 'token=' and before :: to the box you just saw. You can save this time. If it fails, you can try another token in the list

Installing Tomcat 7 as Service on Windows Server 2008

You can find the solution here!

How to print the values of slices

You could use a for loop to print the []Project as shown in @VonC excellent answer.

package main

import "fmt"

type Project struct{ name string }

func main() {
    projects := []Project{{"p1"}, {"p2"}}
    for i := range projects {
        p := projects[i]
        fmt.Println(p.name) //p1, p2
    }
}

A server is already running. Check …/tmp/pids/server.pid. Exiting - rails

Open the path/to/your/rails/project/tmp/pids/server.pid file.

Copy the number you find therein.

Run kill -9 [PID]

Where [PID] is the number you copied from the server.pid file.

This will kill the running server process and you can start your server again without any trouble.

How to remove specific object from ArrayList in Java?

This helped me:

        card temperaryCardFour = theDeck.get(theDeck.size() - 1);
        theDeck.remove(temperaryCardFour);

instead of

theDeck.remove(numberNeededRemoved);

I got a removal conformation on the first snippet of code and an un removal conformation on the second.

Try switching your code with the first snippet I think that is your problem.

JavaFX: How to get stage from controller during initialization?

All you need is to give the AnchorPane an ID, and then you can get the Stage from that.

@FXML private AnchorPane ap;
Stage stage = (Stage) ap.getScene().getWindow();

From here, you can add in the Listener that you need.

Edit: As stated by EarthMind below, it doesn't have to be the AnchorPane element; it can be any element that you've defined.

How do I write a method to calculate total cost for all items in an array?

In your for loop you need to multiply the units * price. That gives you the total for that particular item. Also in the for loop you should add that to a counter that keeps track of the grand total. Your code would look something like

float total;
total += theItem.getUnits() * theItem.getPrice();

total should be scoped so it's accessible from within main unless you want to pass it around between function calls. Then you can either just print out the total or create a method that prints it out for you.

jquery: get elements by class name and add css to each of them

You can try this

 $('div.easy_editor').css({'border-width':'9px', 'border-style':'solid', 'border-color':'red'});

The $('div.easy_editor') refers to a collection of all divs that have the class easy editor already. There is no need to use each() unless there was some function that you wanted to run on each. The css() method actually applies to all the divs you find.

What's the difference between text/xml vs application/xml for webservice response

From the RFC (3023), under section 3, XML Media Types:

If an XML document -- that is, the unprocessed, source XML document -- is readable by casual users, text/xml is preferable to application/xml. MIME user agents (and web user agents) that do not have explicit support for text/xml will treat it as text/plain, for example, by displaying the XML MIME entity as plain text. Application/xml is preferable when the XML MIME entity is unreadable by casual users.

Install Android App Bundle on device

You cannot install app bundle [NAME].aab directly to android device because it is publishing format, but there is way to extract the required apk from bundle and install it to you device, the process is as follow

  1. Download bundletool from here
  2. run this in your terminal,
java -jar bundletool.jar build-apks --bundle=bundleapp.aab --output=out_bundle_archive_set.apks
  1. Last step will generate a file named as out_bundle_archive_set.apks, just rename it to out_bundle_archive_set.zip and extract the zip file, jump into the folder out_bundle_archive_set > standalones, where you will seee a list of all the apks

There goes the reference from android developers for bundle tools link

How to get current instance name from T-SQL

Just to add some clarification to the registry queries. They only list the instances of the matching bitness (32 or 64) for the current instance.

The actual registry key for 32-bit SQL instances on a 64-bit OS is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server

You can query this on a 64-bit instance to get all 32-bit instances as well. The 32-bit instance seems restricted to the Wow6432Node so cannot read the 64-bit registry tree.

When to use Task.Delay, when to use Thread.Sleep?

I want to add something. Actually, Task.Delay is a timer based wait mechanism. If you look at the source you would find a reference to a Timer class which is responsible for the delay. On the other hand Thread.Sleep actually makes current thread to sleep, that way you are just blocking and wasting one thread. In async programming model you should always use Task.Delay() if you want something(continuation) happen after some delay.

How to make the window full screen with Javascript (stretching all over the screen)

Luckily for unsuspecting web users this cannot be done with just javascript. You would need to write browser specific plugins, if they didn't already exist, and then somehow get people to download them. The closest you can get is a maximized window with no tool or navigation bars but users will still be able to see the url.

window.open('http://www.web-page.com', 'title' , 'type=fullWindow, fullscreen, scrollbars=yes');">

This is generally considered bad practice though as it removes a lot of browser functionality from the user.

How do I concatenate a string with a variable?

It's just like you did. And I'll give you a small tip for these kind of silly things: just use the browser url box to try js syntax. for example, write this: javascript:alert("test"+5) and you have your answer. The problem in your code is probably that this element does not exist in your document... maybe it's inside a form or something. You can test this too by writing in the url: javascript:alert(document.horseThumb_5) to check where your mistake is.

In Django, how do I check if a user is in a certain group?

Your User object is linked to the Group object through a ManyToMany relationship.

You can thereby apply the filter method to user.groups.

So, to check if a given User is in a certain group ("Member" for the example), just do this :

def is_member(user):
    return user.groups.filter(name='Member').exists()

If you want to check if a given user belongs to more than one given groups, use the __in operator like so :

def is_in_multiple_groups(user):
    return user.groups.filter(name__in=['group1', 'group2']).exists()

Note that those functions can be used with the @user_passes_test decorator to manage access to your views :

from django.contrib.auth.decorators import login_required, user_passes_test
@login_required
@user_passes_test(is_member) # or @user_passes_test(is_in_multiple_groups)
def myview(request):
    # Do your processing

How to get string objects instead of Unicode from JSON?

Check out this answer to a similar question like this which states that

The u- prefix just means that you have a Unicode string. When you really use the string, it won't appear in your data. Don't be thrown by the printed output.

For example, try this:

print mail_accounts[0]["i"]

You won't see a u.

C# switch on type

See gjvdkamp's answer below; this feature now exists in C#

I usually use a dictionary of types and delegates.
var @switch = new Dictionary<Type, Action> {
    { typeof(Type1), () => ... },
    { typeof(Type2), () => ... },
    { typeof(Type3), () => ... },
};

@switch[typeof(MyType)]();

It's a little less flexible as you can't fall through cases, continue etc. But I rarely do so anyway.

C# importing class into another class doesn't work

namespace MyNamespace
{
    public class MyMainClass
    {
        static void Main()
        {
            MyClass test = new MyClass();
        }
    }

    public class MyClass
    {
        void Stuff()
        {

        }
    }
}

You have no need for using a namespace then because it is all encompased in the same namespace.

If you are unsure of what namespace your class is located, type the class (case sensitive you wish to use) then with your cursor on the class, use CTRL + . and it will offer you a manual import.

Inline IF Statement in C#

The literal answer is:

return (value == 1 ? Periods.VariablePeriods : Periods.FixedPeriods);

Note that the inline if statement, just like an if statement, only checks for true or false. If (value == 1) evaluates to false, it might not necessarily mean that value == 2. Therefore it would be safer like this:

return (value == 1
    ? Periods.VariablePeriods
    : (value == 2
        ? Periods.FixedPeriods
        : Periods.Unknown));

If you add more values an inline if will become unreadable and a switch would be preferred:

switch (value)
{
case 1:
    return Periods.VariablePeriods;
case 2:
    return Periods.FixedPeriods;
}

The good thing about enums is that they have a value, so you can use the values for the mapping, as user854301 suggested. This way you can prevent unnecessary branches thus making the code more readable and extensible.

How to align two divs side by side using the float, clear, and overflow elements with a fixed position div/

This answer may have to be modified depending on what you were trying to achieve with position: fixed;. If all you want is two columns side by side then do the following:

How to import Google Web Font in CSS file?

Add the Below code in your CSS File to import Google Web Fonts.

@import url(https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans);

Replace the Open+Sans parameter value with your Font name.

Your CSS file should look like:

@import url(https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans);

body{
   font-family: 'Open Sans',serif;
}

Export to CSV using jQuery and html

A tiny update for @Terry Young answer, i.e. add IE 10+ support

if (window.navigator.msSaveOrOpenBlob) {
  // IE 10+
  var blob = new Blob([decodeURIComponent(encodeURI(csvString))], {
    type: 'text/csv;charset=' + document.characterSet
  });
  window.navigator.msSaveBlob(blob, filename);
} else {
  // actual real browsers
  //Data URI
  csvData = 'data:application/csv;charset=utf-8,' + encodeURIComponent(csvData);

    $(this).attr({
      'download': filename,
      'href': csvData,
      'target': '_blank'
    });
}

How can I add a username and password to Jenkins?

Assuming you have Manage Jenkins > Configure Global Security > Enable Security and Jenkins Own User Database checked you would go to:

  • Manage Jenkins > Manage Users > Create User

How do you copy the contents of an array to a std::vector in C++ without looping?

avoid the memcpy, I say. No reason to mess with pointer operations unless you really have to. Also, it will only work for POD types (like int) but would fail if you're dealing with types that require construction.

How do I log errors and warnings into a file?

Take a look at the log_errors configuration option in php.ini. It seems to do just what you want to. I think you can use the error_log option to set your own logging file too.

When the log_errors directive is set to On, any errors reported by PHP would be logged to the server log or the file specified with error_log. You can set these options with ini_set too, if you need to.

(Please note that display_errors should be disabled in php.ini if this option is enabled)

Error message "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server"

We had modsec enabled, check the site's error log for an modsec ID then enter a locationmatch for the file in the vhost (or .htaccess I guess):

 <LocationMatch "/yourlocation/index.php">
    <IfModule security2_module>
        SecRuleRemoveById XXXXXXX
    </IfModule>
</LocationMatch>

Convert Xml to DataTable

You can use this code(Recommended)

 MemoryStream objMS = new MemoryStream();
 DataTable oDT = new DataTable();//Your DataTable which you want to convert
 oDT.WriteXml(objMS);
 objMS.Position = 0;
 XPathDocument result = new XPathDocument(objMS);

This is another way but first ex. is recommended

StringWriter objSW = new StringWriter();
DataTable oDt = new DataTable();//Your DataTable which you want to convert
oDt.WriteXml(objSW);
string result = objSW.ToString();

When to use cla(), clf() or close() for clearing a plot in matplotlib?

They all do different things, since matplotlib uses a hierarchical order in which a figure window contains a figure which may consist of many axes. Additionally, there are functions from the pyplot interface and there are methods on the Figure class. I will discuss both cases below.

pyplot interface

pyplot is a module that collects a couple of functions that allow matplotlib to be used in a functional manner. I here assume that pyplot has been imported as import matplotlib.pyplot as plt. In this case, there are three different commands that remove stuff:

plt.cla() clears an axes, i.e. the currently active axes in the current figure. It leaves the other axes untouched.

plt.clf() clears the entire current figure with all its axes, but leaves the window opened, such that it may be reused for other plots.

plt.close() closes a window, which will be the current window, if not specified otherwise.

Which functions suits you best depends thus on your use-case.

The close() function furthermore allows one to specify which window should be closed. The argument can either be a number or name given to a window when it was created using figure(number_or_name) or it can be a figure instance fig obtained, i.e., usingfig = figure(). If no argument is given to close(), the currently active window will be closed. Furthermore, there is the syntax close('all'), which closes all figures.

methods of the Figure class

Additionally, the Figure class provides methods for clearing figures. I'll assume in the following that fig is an instance of a Figure:

fig.clf() clears the entire figure. This call is equivalent to plt.clf() only if fig is the current figure.

fig.clear() is a synonym for fig.clf()

Note that even del fig will not close the associated figure window. As far as I know the only way to close a figure window is using plt.close(fig) as described above.

Why is document.body null in my javascript?

Add your code to the onload event. The accepted answer shows this correctly, however that answer as well as all the others at the time of writing also suggest putting the script tag after the closing body tag, .

This is not valid html. However it will cause your code to work, because browsers are too kind ;)

See this answer for more info Is it wrong to place the <script> tag after the </body> tag?

Downvoted other answers for this reason.

Check if returned value is not null and if so assign it, in one line, with one method call

Since Java 9 you have Objects#requireNonNullElse which does:

public static <T> T requireNonNullElse(T obj, T defaultObj) {
    return (obj != null) ? obj : requireNonNull(defaultObj, "defaultObj");
}

Your code would be

dinner = Objects.requireNonNullElse(cage.getChicken(), getFreeRangeChicken());

Which is 1 line and calls getChicken() only once, so both requirements are satisfied.

Note that the second argument cannot be null as well; this method forces non-nullness of the returned value.

Consider also the alternative Objects#requireNonNullElseGet:

public static <T> T requireNonNullElseGet(T obj, Supplier<? extends T> supplier)

which does not even evaluate the second argument if the first is not null, but does have the overhead of creating a Supplier.

Populating a data frame in R in a loop

It is often preferable to avoid loops and use vectorized functions. If that is not possible there are two approaches:

  1. Preallocate your data.frame. This is not recommended because indexing is slow for data.frames.
  2. Use another data structure in the loop and transform into a data.frame afterwards. A list is very useful here.

Example to illustrate the general approach:

mylist <- list() #create an empty list

for (i in 1:5) {
  vec <- numeric(5) #preallocate a numeric vector
  for (j in 1:5) { #fill the vector
    vec[j] <- i^j
  }
  mylist[[i]] <- vec #put all vectors in the list
}
df <- do.call("rbind",mylist) #combine all vectors into a matrix

In this example it is not necessary to use a list, you could preallocate a matrix. However, if you do not know how many iterations your loop will need, you should use a list.

Finally here is a vectorized alternative to the example loop:

outer(1:5,1:5,function(i,j) i^j)

As you see it's simpler and also more efficient.

What is the __del__ method, How to call it?

The __del__ method, it will be called when the object is garbage collected. Note that it isn't necessarily guaranteed to be called though. The following code by itself won't necessarily do it:

del obj

The reason being that del just decrements the reference count by one. If something else has a reference to the object, __del__ won't get called.

There are a few caveats to using __del__ though. Generally, they usually just aren't very useful. It sounds to me more like you want to use a close method or maybe a with statement.

See the python documentation on __del__ methods.

One other thing to note: __del__ methods can inhibit garbage collection if overused. In particular, a circular reference that has more than one object with a __del__ method won't get garbage collected. This is because the garbage collector doesn't know which one to call first. See the documentation on the gc module for more info.

How can I read a whole file into a string variable

If you just want the content as string, then the simple solution is to use the ReadFile function from the io/ioutil package. This function returns a slice of bytes which you can easily convert to a string.

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "io/ioutil"
)

func main() {
    b, err := ioutil.ReadFile("file.txt") // just pass the file name
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Print(err)
    }

    fmt.Println(b) // print the content as 'bytes'

    str := string(b) // convert content to a 'string'

    fmt.Println(str) // print the content as a 'string'
}

Maximum size of an Array in Javascript

The maximum length until "it gets sluggish" is totally dependent on your target machine and your actual code, so you'll need to test on that (those) platform(s) to see what is acceptable.

However, the maximum length of an array according to the ECMA-262 5th Edition specification is bound by an unsigned 32-bit integer due to the ToUint32 abstract operation, so the longest possible array could have 232-1 = 4,294,967,295 = 4.29 billion elements.

How do I convert this list of dictionaries to a csv file?

In python 3 things are a little different, but way simpler and less error prone. It's a good idea to tell the CSV your file should be opened with utf8 encoding, as it makes that data more portable to others (assuming you aren't using a more restrictive encoding, like latin1)

import csv
toCSV = [{'name':'bob','age':25,'weight':200},
         {'name':'jim','age':31,'weight':180}]
with open('people.csv', 'w', encoding='utf8', newline='') as output_file:
    fc = csv.DictWriter(output_file,
                        fieldnames=toCSV[0].keys(),

                       )
    fc.writeheader()
    fc.writerows(toCSV)
  • Note that csv in python 3 needs the newline='' parameter, otherwise you get blank lines in your CSV when opening in excel/opencalc.

Alternatively: I prefer use to the csv handler in the pandas module. I find it is more tolerant of encoding issues, and pandas will automatically convert string numbers in CSVs into the correct type (int,float,etc) when loading the file.

import pandas
dataframe = pandas.read_csv(filepath)
list_of_dictionaries = dataframe.to_dict('records')
dataframe.to_csv(filepath)

Note:

  • pandas will take care of opening the file for you if you give it a path, and will default to utf8 in python3, and figure out headers too.
  • a dataframe is not the same structure as what CSV gives you, so you add one line upon loading to get the same thing: dataframe.to_dict('records')
  • pandas also makes it much easier to control the order of columns in your csv file. By default, they're alphabetical, but you can specify the column order. With vanilla csv module, you need to feed it an OrderedDict or they'll appear in a random order (if working in python < 3.5). See: Preserving column order in Python Pandas DataFrame for more.

Java String to JSON conversion

Converting the String to JsonNode using ObjectMapper object :

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();

// For text string
JsonNode = mapper.readValue(mapper.writeValueAsString("Text-string"), JsonNode.class)

// For Array String
JsonNode = mapper.readValue("[\"Text-Array\"]"), JsonNode.class)

// For Json String
String json = "{\"id\" : \"1\"}";
ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
JsonFactory factory = mapper.getFactory();
JsonParser jsonParser = factory.createParser(json);
JsonNode node = mapper.readTree(jsonParser);

Nginx subdomain configuration

Another type of solution would be to autogenerate the nginx conf files via Jinja2 templates from ansible. The advantage of this is easy deployment to a cloud environment, and easy to replicate on multiple dev machines

C Macro definition to determine big endian or little endian machine?

C Code for checking whether a system is little-endian or big-indian.

int i = 7;
char* pc = (char*)(&i);
if (pc[0] == '\x7') // aliasing through char is ok
    puts("This system is little-endian");
else
    puts("This system is big-endian");

What is an idempotent operation?

A good example of understanding an idempotent operation might be locking a car with remote key.

log(Car.state) // unlocked

Remote.lock();
log(Car.state) // locked

Remote.lock();
Remote.lock();
Remote.lock();
log(Car.state) // locked

lock is an idempotent operation. Even if there are some side effect each time you run lock, like blinking, the car is still in the same locked state, no matter how many times you run lock operation.

Timing Delays in VBA

TCPDF output without saving file

I've been using the Output("doc.pdf", "I"); and it doesn't work, I'm always asked for saving the file.

I took a look in documentation and found that

I send the file inline to the browser (default). The plug-in is used if available. The name given by name is used when one selects the "Save as" option on the link generating the PDF. http://www.tcpdf.org/doc/classTCPDF.html#a3d6dcb62298ec9d42e9125ee2f5b23a1

Then I think you have to use a plugin to print it, otherwise it is going to be downloaded.

How can I find all the subsets of a set, with exactly n elements?

Using the canonical function to get the powerset from the the itertools recipe page:

from itertools import chain, combinations

def powerset(iterable):
    """
    powerset([1,2,3]) --> () (1,) (2,) (3,) (1,2) (1,3) (2,3) (1,2,3)
    """
    xs = list(iterable)
    # note we return an iterator rather than a list
    return chain.from_iterable(combinations(xs,n) for n in range(len(xs)+1))

Used like:

>>> list(powerset("abc"))
[(), ('a',), ('b',), ('c',), ('a', 'b'), ('a', 'c'), ('b', 'c'), ('a', 'b', 'c')]

>>> list(powerset(set([1,2,3])))
[(), (1,), (2,), (3,), (1, 2), (1, 3), (2, 3), (1, 2, 3)]

map to sets if you want so you can use union, intersection, etc...:

>>> map(set, powerset(set([1,2,3])))
[set([]), set([1]), set([2]), set([3]), set([1, 2]), set([1, 3]), set([2, 3]), set([1, 2, 3])]

>>> reduce(lambda x,y: x.union(y), map(set, powerset(set([1,2,3]))))
set([1, 2, 3])

what does mysql_real_escape_string() really do?

The mysqli_real_escape_string() function escapes special characters in a string for use in an SQL statement.

Email and phone Number Validation in android

For check email and phone number you need to do that

public static boolean isValidMobile(String phone) {
    boolean check = false;
    if (!Pattern.matches("[a-zA-Z]+", phone)) {
        if (phone.length() < 9 || phone.length() > 13) {
            // if(phone.length() != 10) {
            check = false;
            // txtPhone.setError("Not Valid Number");
        } else {
            check = android.util.Patterns.PHONE.matcher(phone).matches();
        }
    } else {
        check = false;
    }
    return check;
}

public static boolean isEmailValid(String email) {
    boolean check;
    Pattern p;
    Matcher m;

    String EMAIL_STRING = "^[_A-Za-z0-9-\\+]+(\\.[_A-Za-z0-9-]+)*@"
            + "[A-Za-z0-9-]+(\\.[A-Za-z0-9]+)*(\\.[A-Za-z]{2,})$";

    p = Pattern.compile(EMAIL_STRING);

    m = p.matcher(email);
    check = m.matches();

    return check;
}

String enter_mob_or_email="";//1234567890 or [email protected]
if (isValidMobile(enter_mob_or_email)) {// Phone number is valid

}else isEmailValid(enter_mob_or_email){//Email is valid

Exact difference between CharSequence and String in java

From the Java API of CharSequence:

A CharSequence is a readable sequence of characters. This interface provides uniform, read-only access to many different kinds of character sequences.

This interface is then used by String, CharBuffer and StringBuffer to keep consistency for all method names.

Pylint, PyChecker or PyFlakes?

pep8 was recently added to PyPi.

  • pep8 - Python style guide checker
  • pep8 is a tool to check your Python code against some of the style conventions in PEP 8.

It is now super easy to check your code against pep8.

See http://pypi.python.org/pypi/pep8

How can I install a package with go get?

First, we need GOPATH

The $GOPATH is a folder (or set of folders) specified by its environment variable. We must notice that this is not the $GOROOT directory where Go is installed.

export GOPATH=$HOME/gocode
export PATH=$PATH:$GOPATH/bin

We used ~/gocode path in our computer to store the source of our application and its dependencies. The GOPATH directory will also store the binaries of their packages.

Then check Go env

You system must have $GOPATH and $GOROOT, below is my Env:

GOARCH="amd64"
GOBIN=""
GOCHAR="6"
GOEXE=""
GOHOSTARCH="amd64"
GOHOSTOS="linux"
GOOS="linux"
GOPATH="/home/elpsstu/gocode"
GORACE=""
GOROOT="/home/pravin/go"
GOTOOLDIR="/home/pravin/go/pkg/tool/linux_amd64"
CC="gcc"
GOGCCFLAGS="-fPIC -m64 -pthread -fmessage-length=0"
CXX="g++"
CGO_ENABLED="1"

Now, you run download go package:

go get [-d] [-f] [-fix] [-t] [-u] [build flags] [packages]

Get downloads and installs the packages named by the import paths, along with their dependencies. For more details you can look here.

Missing visible-** and hidden-** in Bootstrap v4

The hidden-* and visible-* classes no longer exist in Bootstrap 4. The same fucntion can be achieved in Bootstrap 4 by using the d-* for the specific tiers.

How to secure phpMyAdmin

One of my concerns with phpMyAdmin was that by default, all MySQL users can access the db. If DB's root password is compromised, someone can wreck havoc on the db. I wanted to find a way to avoid that by restricting which MySQL user can login to phpMyAdmin.

I have found using AllowDeny configuration in PhpMyAdmin to be very useful. http://wiki.phpmyadmin.net/pma/Config#AllowDeny_.28rules.29

AllowDeny lets you configure access to phpMyAdmin in a similar way to Apache. If you set the 'order' to explicit, it will only grant access to users defined in 'rules' section. In the rules, section you restrict MySql users who can access use the phpMyAdmin.

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowDeny']['order'] = 'explicit'
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowDeny']['rules'] = array('pma-user from all')

Now you have limited access to the user named pma-user in MySQL, you can grant limited privilege to that user.

grant select on db_name.some_table to 'pma-user'@'app-server'

TortoiseSVN icons not showing up under Windows 7

It seems there is another reason why the icons wont be shown. Today I made an update of my TortoiseSVN Client from 1.6.x to 1.10.x. After that the Icons of my Working copies were not displayed any more. But it turns out that it has nothing to do with to many applications occupy the possible icons. The reason was that the Working copies format was to old. First you have to make a "SVN upgrade working copy" with your new installed client.

You can read more about the details here: SVN upgrade working copy

Have a nice day

Split Java String by New Line

As an alternative to the previous answers, guava's Splitter API can be used if other operations are to be applied to the resulting lines, like trimming lines or filtering empty lines :

import com.google.common.base.Splitter;

Iterable<String> split = Splitter.onPattern("\r?\n").trimResults().omitEmptyStrings().split(docStr);

Note that the result is an Iterable and not an array.

Map to String in Java

You can also use google-collections (guava) Joiner class if you want to customize the print format

How to simulate a click with JavaScript?

This isn't very well documented, but we can trigger any kinds of events very simply.

This example will trigger 50 double click on the button:

_x000D_
_x000D_
let theclick = new Event("dblclick")

for (let i = 0;i < 50;i++){
  action.dispatchEvent(theclick)
}
_x000D_
<button id="action" ondblclick="out.innerHTML+='Wtf '">TEST</button>
<div id="out"></div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

The Event interface represents an event which takes place in the DOM.

An event can be triggered by the user action e.g. clicking the mouse button or tapping keyboard, or generated by APIs to represent the progress of an asynchronous task. It can also be triggered programmatically, such as by calling the HTMLElement.click() method of an element, or by defining the event, then sending it to a specified target using EventTarget.dispatchEvent().

Creating a list of dictionaries results in a list of copies of the same dictionary

You are not creating a separate dictionary for each iframe, you just keep modifying the same dictionary over and over, and you keep adding additional references to that dictionary in your list.

Remember, when you do something like content.append(info), you aren't making a copy of the data, you are simply appending a reference to the data.

You need to create a new dictionary for each iframe.

for iframe in soup.find_all('iframe'):
   info = {}
    ...

Even better, you don't need to create an empty dictionary first. Just create it all at once:

for iframe in soup.find_all('iframe'):
    info = {
        "src":    iframe.get('src'),
        "height": iframe.get('height'),
        "width":  iframe.get('width'),
    }
    content.append(info)

There are other ways to accomplish this, such as iterating over a list of attributes, or using list or dictionary comprehensions, but it's hard to improve upon the clarity of the above code.

What's the difference between .so, .la and .a library files?

.so files are dynamic libraries. The suffix stands for "shared object", because all the applications that are linked with the library use the same file, rather than making a copy in the resulting executable.

.a files are static libraries. The suffix stands for "archive", because they're actually just an archive (made with the ar command -- a predecessor of tar that's now just used for making libraries) of the original .o object files.

.la files are text files used by the GNU "libtools" package to describe the files that make up the corresponding library. You can find more information about them in this question: What are libtool's .la file for?

Static and dynamic libraries each have pros and cons.

Static pro: The user always uses the version of the library that you've tested with your application, so there shouldn't be any surprising compatibility problems.

Static con: If a problem is fixed in a library, you need to redistribute your application to take advantage of it. However, unless it's a library that users are likely to update on their own, you'd might need to do this anyway.

Dynamic pro: Your process's memory footprint is smaller, because the memory used for the library is amortized among all the processes using the library.

Dynamic pro: Libraries can be loaded on demand at run time; this is good for plugins, so you don't have to choose the plugins to be used when compiling and installing the software. New plugins can be added on the fly.

Dynamic con: The library might not exist on the system where someone is trying to install the application, or they might have a version that's not compatible with the application. To mitigate this, the application package might need to include a copy of the library, so it can install it if necessary. This is also often mitigated by package managers, which can download and install any necessary dependencies.

Dynamic con: Link-Time Optimization is generally not possible, so there could possibly be efficiency implications in high-performance applications. See the Wikipedia discussion of WPO and LTO.

Dynamic libraries are especially useful for system libraries, like libc. These libraries often need to include code that's dependent on the specific OS and version, because kernel interfaces have changed. If you link a program with a static system library, it will only run on the version of the OS that this library version was written for. But if you use a dynamic library, it will automatically pick up the library that's installed on the system you run on.

Screen width in React Native

React Native Dimensions is only a partial answer to this question, I came here looking for the actual pixel size of the screen, and the Dimensions actually gives you density independent layout size.

You can use React Native Pixel Ratio to get the actual pixel size of the screen.

You need the import statement for both Dimenions and PixelRatio

import { Dimensions, PixelRatio } from 'react-native';

You can use object destructuring to create width and height globals or put it in stylesheets as others suggest, but beware this won't update on device reorientation.

const { width, height } = Dimensions.get('window');

From React Native Dimension Docs:

Note: Although dimensions are available immediately, they may change (e.g due to >device rotation) so any rendering logic or styles that depend on these constants >should try to call this function on every render, rather than caching the value >(for example, using inline styles rather than setting a value in a StyleSheet).

PixelRatio Docs link for those who are curious, but not much more there.

To actually get the screen size use:

PixelRatio.getPixelSizeForLayoutSize(width);

or if you don't want width and height to be globals you can use it anywhere like this

PixelRatio.getPixelSizeForLayoutSize(Dimensions.get('window').width);

How does Python manage int and long?

int and long were "unified" a few versions back. Before that it was possible to overflow an int through math ops.

3.x has further advanced this by eliminating long altogether and only having int.

  • Python 2: sys.maxint contains the maximum value a Python int can hold.
    • On a 64-bit Python 2.7, the size is 24 bytes. Check with sys.getsizeof().
  • Python 3: sys.maxsize contains the maximum size in bytes a Python int can be.
    • This will be gigabytes in 32 bits, and exabytes in 64 bits.
    • Such a large int would have a value similar to 8 to the power of sys.maxsize.

How to get calendar Quarter from a date in TSQL

^[A-Za-Z ][A-Za-z0-9 ]* regular expression?

^[A-Za-z](\W|\w)*

(\W|\w) will ensure that every subsequent letter is word(\w) or non word(\W)

instead of (\W|\w)* you can also use .* where . means absolutely anything just like (\w|\W)

How to add not null constraint to existing column in MySQL

Just use an ALTER TABLE... MODIFY... query and add NOT NULL into your existing column definition. For example:

ALTER TABLE Person MODIFY P_Id INT(11) NOT NULL;

A word of caution: you need to specify the full column definition again when using a MODIFY query. If your column has, for example, a DEFAULT value, or a column comment, you need to specify it in the MODIFY statement along with the data type and the NOT NULL, or it will be lost. The safest practice to guard against such mishaps is to copy the column definition from the output of a SHOW CREATE TABLE YourTable query, modify it to include the NOT NULL constraint, and paste it into your ALTER TABLE... MODIFY... query.

What is an uber jar?

The different names are just ways of packaging java apps.

Skinny – Contains ONLY the bits you literally type into your code editor, and NOTHING else.

Thin – Contains all of the above PLUS the app’s direct dependencies of your app (db drivers, utility libraries, etc).

Hollow – The inverse of Thin – Contains only the bits needed to run your app but does NOT contain the app itself. Basically a pre-packaged “app server” to which you can later deploy your app, in the same style as traditional Java EE app servers, but with important differences.

Fat/Uber – Contains the bit you literally write yourself PLUS the direct dependencies of your app PLUS the bits needed to run your app “on its own”.

Grid of responsive squares

You can make responsive grid of squares with verticaly and horizontaly centered content only with CSS. I will explain how in a step by step process but first here are 2 demos of what you can achieve :

Responsive 3x3 square grid Responsive square images in a 3x3 grid

Now let's see how to make these fancy responsive squares!

1. Making the responsive squares :

The trick for keeping elements square (or whatever other aspect ratio) is to use percent padding-bottom.
Side note: you can use top padding too or top/bottom margin but the background of the element won't display.

As top padding is calculated according to the width of the parent element (See MDN for reference), the height of the element will change according to its width. You can now Keep its aspect ratio according to its width.
At this point you can code :

HTML :

 <div></div>

CSS

div {
    width: 30%;
    padding-bottom: 30%; /* = width for a square aspect ratio */
}

Here is a simple layout example of 3*3 squares grid using the code above.

With this technique, you can make any other aspect ratio, here is a table giving the values of bottom padding according to the aspect ratio and a 30% width.

 Aspect ratio  |  padding-bottom  |  for 30% width
------------------------------------------------
    1:1        |  = width         |    30%
    1:2        |  width x 2       |    60%
    2:1        |  width x 0.5     |    15%
    4:3        |  width x 0.75    |    22.5%
    16:9       |  width x 0.5625  |    16.875%

2. Adding content inside the squares

As you can't add content directly inside the squares (it would expand their height and squares wouldn't be squares anymore) you need to create child elements (for this example I am using divs) inside them with position: absolute; and put the content inside them. This will take the content out of the flow and keep the size of the square.

Don't forget to add position:relative; on the parent divs so the absolute children are positioned/sized relatively to their parent.

Let's add some content to our 3x3 grid of squares :

HTML :

<div class="square">
    <div class="content">
        .. CONTENT HERE ..
    </div>
</div>
... and so on 9 times for 9 squares ...

CSS :

.square {
    float:left;
    position: relative;
    width: 30%;
    padding-bottom: 30%; /* = width for a 1:1 aspect ratio */
    margin:1.66%;
    overflow:hidden;
}

.content {
    position:absolute;
    height:80%; /* = 100% - 2*10% padding */
    width:90%; /* = 100% - 2*5% padding */
    padding: 10% 5%;
}

RESULT <-- with some formatting to make it pretty!

3.Centering the content

Horizontally :

This is pretty easy, you just need to add text-align:center to .content.
RESULT

Vertical alignment

This becomes serious! The trick is to use

display:table;
/* and */
display:table-cell;
vertical-align:middle;

but we can't use display:table; on .square or .content divs because it conflicts with position:absolute; so we need to create two children inside .content divs. Our code will be updated as follow :

HTML :

<div class="square">
    <div class="content">
        <div class="table">
            <div class="table-cell">
                ... CONTENT HERE ...
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>
... and so on 9 times for 9 squares ...

CSS :

.square {
    float:left;
    position: relative;
    width: 30%;
    padding-bottom : 30%; /* = width for a 1:1 aspect ratio */
    margin:1.66%;
    overflow:hidden;
}

.content {
    position:absolute;
    height:80%; /* = 100% - 2*10% padding */
    width:90%; /* = 100% - 2*5% padding */
    padding: 10% 5%;
}
.table{
    display:table;
    height:100%;
    width:100%;
}
.table-cell{
    display:table-cell;
    vertical-align:middle;
    height:100%;
    width:100%;
}

We have now finished and we can take a look at the result here :

PHP Get Highest Value from Array

If you just want the largest value in the array use the max function. This will return the largest value, although not the corresponding key. It does not change the original array.

If you care about the the key you could then do

$key = array_search(max($array), $array)

(Edited to include @binaryLV's suggestion)

B: Yes, I want to hear a TCP/IP joke.
A: Ok, are you ready to hear a TCP/IP joke?
B: Yes, I'm ready to hear a TCP/IP joke.
A: Well, here is the TCP/IP joke.
A: Did you receive a TCP/IP joke?
B: Yes, I **did** receive a TCP/IP joke.

How do I make a branch point at a specific commit?

git reset --hard 1258f0d0aae

But be careful, if the descendant commits between 1258f0d0aae and HEAD are not referenced in other branches it'll be tedious (but not impossible) to recover them, so you'd better to create a "backup" branch at current HEAD, checkout master, and reset to the commit you want.

Also, be sure that you don't have uncommitted changes before a reset --hard, they will be truly lost (no way to recover).

Add CSS class to a div in code behind

What if:

 <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" CssClass="test1 test3 test-test" />

To add or remove a class, instead of overwriting all classes with

   BtnventCss.CssClass = "hom_but_a"

keep the HTML correct:

    string classname = "TestClass";

    // Add a class
    BtnventCss.CssClass = String.Join(" ", Button1
               .CssClass
               .Split(' ')
               .Except(new string[]{"",classname})
               .Concat(new string[]{classname})
               .ToArray()
       );

     // Remove a class
     BtnventCss.CssClass = String.Join(" ", Button1
               .CssClass
               .Split(' ')
               .Except(new string[]{"",classname})
               .ToArray()
       );

This assures

  • The original classnames remain.
  • There are no double classnames
  • There are no disturbing extra spaces

Especially when client-side development is using several classnames on one element.

In your example, use

   string classname = "TestClass";

    // Add a class
    Button1.Attributes.Add("class", String.Join(" ", Button1
               .Attributes["class"]
               .Split(' ')
               .Except(new string[]{"",classname})
               .Concat(new string[]{classname})
               .ToArray()
       ));

     // Remove a class
     Button1.Attributes.Add("class", String.Join(" ", Button1
               .Attributes["class"]
               .Split(' ')
               .Except(new string[]{"",classname})
               .ToArray()
       ));

You should wrap this in a method/property ;)

if variable contains

If you have a lot of these to check you might want to store a list of the mappings and just loop over that, instead of having a bunch of if/else statements. Something like:

var CODE_TO_LOCATION = {
  'ST1': 'stoke central',
  'ST2': 'stoke north',
  // ...
};

function getLocation(text) {
  for (var code in CODE_TO_LOCATION) {
    if (text.indexOf(code) != -1) {
      return CODE_TO_LOCATION[code];
    }
  }
  return null;
}

This way you can easily add more code/location mappings. And if you want to handle more than one location you could just build up an array of locations in the function instead of just returning the first one you find.

Can you 'exit' a loop in PHP?

As stated in other posts, you can use the break keyword. One thing that was hinted at but not explained is that the keyword can take a numeric value to tell PHP how many levels to break from.

For example, if you have three foreach loops nested in each other trying to find a piece of information, you could do 'break 3' to get out of all three nested loops. This will work for the 'for', 'foreach', 'while', 'do-while', or 'switch' structures.

$person = "Rasmus Lerdorf";

   foreach($department as $dKey=>$group)

      foreach($group as $gKey=>$employee)
      {
         if ($employee['fullname'] == $person)
         {
            $found = true;
            break 3;
         }
      } // group
   } // department
} // organization

How do I detect "shift+enter" and generate a new line in Textarea?

Catching an exception while using a Python 'with' statement

The best "Pythonic" way to do this, exploiting the with statement, is listed as Example #6 in PEP 343, which gives the background of the statement.

@contextmanager
def opened_w_error(filename, mode="r"):
    try:
        f = open(filename, mode)
    except IOError, err:

    else:
        try:
            yield f, None
        finally:
            f.close()

Used as follows:

with opened_w_error("/etc/passwd", "a") as (f, err):
    if err:
        print "IOError:", err
    else:
        f.write("guido::0:0::/:/bin/sh\n")

MySQL Foreign Key Error 1005 errno 150 primary key as foreign key

I realize this is an old post, but it ranks high in Google, so I'm adding what I figured out for MY problem. If you have a mix of table types (e.g. MyISAM and InnoDB), you will get this error as well. In this case, InnoDB is the default table type, but one table needed fulltext searching so it was migrated to MyISAM. In this situation, you cannot create a foreign key in the InnoDB table that references the MyISAM table.

Using XAMPP, how do I swap out PHP 5.3 for PHP 5.2?

Years later, but for what it's worth - This is simple to do.

  • Just RENAME the C:\xampp directory

  • Install the desired new version of XAMPP

  • Simply run the control panel script "xampp-control.exe" directly from within the xampp folder. (Ignore warnings about "must run from C:\xampp - those have nothing to do with multiple installations.)

To switch between these versions of XAMPP, just rename the xampp directories as necessary, and re-run.

Check if any type of files exist in a directory using BATCH script

You can use this

@echo off
for /F %%i in ('dir /b "c:\test directory\*.*"') do (
   echo Folder is NON empty
   goto :EOF
)
echo Folder is empty or does not exist

Taken from here.

That should do what you need.

How to fix 'android.os.NetworkOnMainThreadException'?

The NetworkOnMainThread exception occurs because you have called some network operation on the default thread, that is, the UI thread. As per Android version Android 3 (Honeycomb) which is not allowed, you should call network operation outside the main thread.

You can use AsyncTask, IntentService, or creating your own thread and calling inside the run method. For more information, visit Connecting to the Network.

jQuery Validation plugin: validate check box

You can validate group checkbox and radio button without extra js code, see below example.

Your JS should be look like:

$("#formid").validate();

You can play with HTML tag and attributes: eg. group checkbox [minlength=2 and maxlength=4]

<fieldset class="col-md-12">
  <legend>Days</legend>
  <div class="form-row">
    <div class="col-12 col-md-12 form-group">
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="1" required="required" data-msg-required="This value is required." minlength="2" maxlength="4" data-msg-maxlength="Max should be 4">Monday
        </label>
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="2">Tuesday
        </label>
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="3">Wednesday
        </label>
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="4">Thursday
        </label>
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="5">Friday
        </label>
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="6">Saturday
        </label>
        <label class="checkbox-inline">
          <input type="checkbox" name="daysgroup[]" value="7">Sunday
        </label>
        <label for="daysgroup[]" class="error">Your error message will be display here.</label>
    </div>
  </div>
</fieldset>

You can see here first or any one input should have required, minlength="2" and maxlength="4" attributes. minlength/maxlength as per your requirement.

eg. group radio button:

<fieldset class="col-md-12">
  <legend>Gender</legend>
  <div class="form-row">
    <div class="col-12 col-md-12 form-group">
        <label class="form-check-inline">
          <input type="radio" name="gendergroup[]" value="m" required="required" data-msg-required="This value is required.">man
        </label>
        <label class="form-check-inline">
          <input type="radio" name="gendergroup[]" value="w">woman
        </label>
        <label class="form-check-inline">
          <input type="radio" name="gendergroup[]" value="o">other
        </label>
        <label for="gendergroup[]" class="error">Your error message will be display here.</label>
    </div>
  </div>
</fieldset>

You can check working example here.

GraalVM is a good choice. I've done Java+Javascript combination with GraalVM for microservice design (Java with Javascript reflection). They recently added support for python, I'd give it a try especially with how big its community has grown over the years.

Pass array to mvc Action via AJAX

You should be able to do this just fine:

$.ajax({
   url: 'controller/myaction',
   data: JSON.stringify({
      myKey: myArray
   }),
   success: function(data) { /* Whatever */ }
});

Then your action method would be like so:

public ActionResult(List<int> myKey)
{
    // Do Stuff
}

For you, it looks like you just need to stringify your values. The JSONValueProvider in MVC will convert that back into an IEnumerable for you.

How to render string with html tags in Angular 4+?

Use one way flow syntax property binding:

<div [innerHTML]="comment"></div>

From angular docs: "Angular recognizes the value as unsafe and automatically sanitizes it, which removes the <script> tag but keeps safe content such as the <b> element."

Rebasing a Git merge commit

Ok, that's an old question and it already have accepted answer by @siride, but that answer wasn't enough in my case, as --preserve-merges forces you to resolve all conflicts second time. My solution based on the idea by @Tobi B but with exact step-by-step commands

So we'll start on such state based on example in the question:

* 8101fe3 Merge branch 'topic' [HEAD -> master]
|\
| * b62cae6 2                     [topic]
| |
| | * f5a7ca8 5                   [origin/master]
| | * e7affba 4
| |/
|/|
* | eb3b733 3
|/
* 38abeae 1

Note that we have 2 commits ahead master, so cherry-pick wouldn't work.

  1. First of all, let's create correct history that we want:

    git checkout -b correct-history # create new branch to save master for future
    git rebase --strategy=ours --preserve-merges origin/master

    We use --preserve-merges to save our merge commit in history. We use --strategy=ours to ignore all merge conflicts as we don't care about what contents will be in that merge commit, we only need nice history now.

    History will looks like that (ignoring master):

    *   51984c7 Merge branch 'topic'  [HEAD -> correct-history]
    |\
    | * b62cae6 2                     [topic]
    * | f5a7ca8 5                     [origin/master]
    * | e7affba 4
    * | eb3b733 3
    |/
    * 38abeae 1

  2. Let's get correct index now.

    git checkout master # return to our master branch
    git merge origin/master # merge origin/master on top of our master

    We may get some additional merge conflicts here, but that's would only be conflicts from files changed between 8101fe3 and f5a7ca8, but not includes already resolved conflicts from topic

    History will looks like this (ignoring correct-history):

    *   94f1484 Merge branch 'origin/master'  [HEAD -> master]
    |\
    * | f5a7ca8 5                   [origin/master]
    * | e7affba 4
    | *   8101fe3 Merge branch 'topic'
    | |\
    | | * b62cae6 2                     [topic]
    |/ /
    * / eb3b733 3
    |/
    * 38abeae 1

  3. The last stage is to combine our branch with correct history and branch with correct index

    git reset --soft correct-history
    git commit --amend

    We use reset --soft to reset our branch (and history) to correct-history, but leave index and working tree as is. Then we use commit --amend to rewrite our merge commit, that used to have incorrect index, with our good index from master.

    In the end we will have such state (note another id of top commit):

    * 13e6d03 Merge branch 'topic' [HEAD -> master]
    |\
    | * b62cae6 2                     [topic]
    * | f5a7ca8 5                     [origin/master]
    * | e7affba 4
    * | eb3b733 3
    |/
    * 38abeae 1

Generating Random Number In Each Row In Oracle Query

Something like?

select t.*, round(dbms_random.value() * 8) + 1 from foo t;

Edit: David has pointed out this gives uneven distribution for 1 and 9.

As he points out, the following gives a better distribution:

select t.*, floor(dbms_random.value(1, 10)) from foo t;

Combining paste() and expression() functions in plot labels

EDIT: added a new example for ggplot2 at the end

See ?plotmath for the different mathematical operations in R

You should be able to use expression without paste. If you use the tilda (~) symbol within the expression function it will assume there is a space between the characters, or you could use the * symbol and it won't put a space between the arguments

Sometimes you will need to change the margins in you're putting superscripts on the y-axis.

par(mar=c(5, 4.3, 4, 2) + 0.1)
plot(1:10, xlab = expression(xLab ~ x^2 ~ m^-2),
     ylab = expression(yLab ~ y^2 ~ m^-2),
     main="Plot 1")

enter image description here

plot(1:10, xlab = expression(xLab * x^2 * m^-2),
     ylab = expression(yLab * y^2 * m^-2),
     main="Plot 2")

enter image description here

plot(1:10, xlab = expression(xLab ~ x^2 * m^-2),
     ylab = expression(yLab ~ y^2 * m^-2),
     main="Plot 3")

enter image description here

Hopefully you can see the differences between plots 1, 2 and 3 with the different uses of the ~ and * symbols. An extra note, you can use other symbols such as plotting the degree symbol for temperatures for or mu, phi. If you want to add a subscript use the square brackets.

plot(1:10, xlab = expression('Your x label' ~ mu[3] * phi),
     ylab = expression("Temperature (" * degree * C *")"))

enter image description here

Here is a ggplot example using expression with a nonsense example

require(ggplot2)

Or if you have the pacman library installed you can use p_load to automatically download and load and attach add-on packages

# require(pacman)
# p_load(ggplot2)

data = data.frame(x = 1:10, y = 1:10)

ggplot(data, aes(x,y)) + geom_point() +
  xlab(expression(bar(yourUnits) ~ g ~ m^-2 ~ OR ~ integral(f(x)*dx, a,b))) +
  ylab(expression("Biomass (g per" ~ m^3 *")")) + theme_bw()

enter image description here

How to do date/time comparison

For case when your interval's end it's date without hours like "from 2017-01-01 to whole day of 2017-01-16" it's better to adjust interval's to 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds like:

end = end.Add(time.Duration(23*time.Hour) + time.Duration(59*time.Minute) + time.Duration(59*time.Second))

if now.After(start) && now.Before(end) {
    ...

If the function you called returns null, it means your phone number is not registered in your contact list.

If instead of the phone number you just need an unique number, you may use the sim card's serial number:

    String getSimSerialNumber = telemamanger.getSimSerialNumber();

Difference between framework vs Library vs IDE vs API vs SDK vs Toolkits?

In other words...

IDE Even your notepad is an IDE. Every software you write/compile code with is an IDE.

Library A bunch of code which simplifies functions/methods for quick use.

API A programming interface for functions/configuration which you work with, its usage is often documented.

SDK Extras and/or for development/testing purposes.

ToolKit Tiny apps for quick use, often GUIs.

GUI Apps with a graphical interface, requires no knowledge of programming unlike APIs.

Framework Bunch of APIs/huge Library/Snippets wrapped in a namespace/or encapsulated from outer scope for compact handling without conflicts with other code.

MVC A design pattern separated in Models, Views and Controllers for huge applications. They are not dependent on each other and can be changed/improved/replaced without to take care of other code.

Example:

Car (Model)
The object that is being presented.
Example in IT: A HTML form.

Camera (View)
Something that is able to see the object(car).
Example in IT: Browser that renders a website with the form.

Driver (Controller)
Someone who drives that car.
Example in IT: Functions which handle form data that's being submitted.

Snippets Small codes of only a few lines, may not be even complete but worth for a quick share.

Plug-ins Exclusive functions for specified frameworks/APIs/libraries only.

Add-ons Additional modules or services for specific GUIs.

Passing data between different controller action methods

If you need to pass data from one controller to another you must pass data by route values.Because both are different request.if you send data from one page to another then you have to user query string(same as route values).

But you can do one trick :

In your calling action call the called action as a simple method :

public class ServerController : Controller
{
 [HttpPost]
 public ActionResult ApplicationPoolsUpdate(ServiceViewModel viewModel)
 {
      XDocument updatedResultsDocument = myService.UpdateApplicationPools();
      ApplicationPoolController pool=new ApplicationPoolController(); //make an object of ApplicationPoolController class.

      return pool.UpdateConfirmation(updatedResultsDocument); // call the ActionMethod you want as a simple method and pass the model as an argument.
      // Redirect to ApplicationPool controller and pass
      // updatedResultsDocument to be used in UpdateConfirmation action method
 }
}

AltGr key not working, instead I have to use Ctrl+AltGr

I found a solution for my problem while writing my question !

Going into my remote session i tried two key combinations, and it solved the problem on my Desktop : Alt+Enter and Ctrl+Enter (i don't know which one solved the problem though)

I tried to reproduce the problem, but i couldn't... but i'm almost sure it's one of the key combinations described in the question above (since i experienced this problem several times)

So it seems the problem comes from the use of RDP (windows7 and 8)

Can I pass variable to select statement as column name in SQL Server

You can't use variable names to bind columns or other system objects, you need dynamic sql

DECLARE @sqlText nvarchar(1000);

SET @sqlText = N'SELECT ' + @value + ' FROM dbo.tblBatchDetail'

Using .NET, how can you find the mime type of a file based on the file signature not the extension

I ended up using Winista MimeDetector from Netomatix. The sources can be downloaded for free after you created an account: http://www.netomatix.com/Products/DocumentManagement/MimeDetector.aspx

MimeTypes g_MimeTypes = new MimeTypes("mime-types.xml");
sbyte [] fileData = null;

using (System.IO.FileStream srcFile = new System.IO.FileStream(strFile, System.IO.FileMode.Open))
{
    byte [] data = new byte[srcFile.Length];
    srcFile.Read(data, 0, (Int32)srcFile.Length);
    fileData = Winista.Mime.SupportUtil.ToSByteArray(data);
}

MimeType oMimeType = g_MimeTypes.GetMimeType(fileData);

This is part of another question answered here: Alternative to FindMimeFromData method in Urlmon.dll one which has more MIME types The best solution to this problem in my opinion.

How to make a Generic Type Cast function

While probably not as clean looking as the IConvertible approach, you could always use the straightforward checking typeof(T) to return a T:

public static T ReturnType<T>(string stringValue)
{
    if (typeof(T) == typeof(int))
        return (T)(object)1;
    else if (typeof(T) == typeof(FooBar))
        return (T)(object)new FooBar(stringValue);
    else
        return default(T);
}

public class FooBar
{
    public FooBar(string something)
    {}
}

Error - SqlDateTime overflow. Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM

Usually this kind of error comes when you do DateTime conversion or parsing. Check the calendar setting in the server where the application is hosted, mainly the time zone and short date format, and ensure it's set to the right time zone for the location. Hope this would resolve the issue.

iloc giving 'IndexError: single positional indexer is out-of-bounds'

This happens when you index a row/column with a number that is larger than the dimensions of your dataframe. For instance, getting the eleventh column when you have only three.

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'Name': ['Mark', 'Laura', 'Adam', 'Roger', 'Anna'],
                   'City': ['Lisbon', 'Montreal', 'Lisbon', 'Berlin', 'Glasgow'],
                   'Car': ['Tesla', 'Audi', 'Porsche', 'Ford', 'Honda']})

You have 5 rows and three columns:

    Name      City      Car
0   Mark    Lisbon    Tesla
1  Laura  Montreal     Audi
2   Adam    Lisbon  Porsche
3  Roger    Berlin     Ford
4   Anna   Glasgow    Honda

Let's try to index the eleventh column (it doesn't exist):

df.iloc[:, 10] # there is obviously no 11th column

IndexError: single positional indexer is out-of-bounds

If you are a beginner with Python, remember that df.iloc[:, 10] would refer to the eleventh column.

How to create custom spinner like border around the spinner with down triangle on the right side?

To change only "background" (add corners, change color, ....) you can put it into FrameLayout with wanted background drawable, else you need to make nine patch background for to not lose spinner arrow. Spinner background is transparent.

How might I extract the property values of a JavaScript object into an array?

[It turns out my answer is similar to @Anonymous, but I keep my answer here since it explains how I got my answer].

The original object has THREE properties (i.e. 3 keys and 3 values). This suggest we should be using Object.keys() to transform it to an array with 3 values.

var dataArray = Object.keys(dataObject);
// Gives: ["object1", "object2", "object3" ]

We now have 3 values, but not the 3 values we're after. So, this suggest we should use Array.prototype.map().

var dataArray = Object.keys(dataObject).map(function(e) { return dataObject[e]; } );
// Gives: [{"id":1,"name":"Fred"},{"id":2,"name":"Wilma"},{"id":3,"name":"Pebbles"}]

Using jq to parse and display multiple fields in a json serially

I recommend using String Interpolation:

How do you check if a string is not equal to an object or other string value in java?

Change your code to:

System.out.println("AM or PM?");
Scanner TimeOfDayQ = new Scanner(System.in);
TimeOfDayStringQ = TimeOfDayQ.next();

if(!TimeOfDayStringQ.equals("AM") && !TimeOfDayStringQ.equals("PM")) { // <--
    System.out.println("Sorry, incorrect input.");
    System.exit(1);
}

...

if(Hours == 13){
    if (TimeOfDayStringQ.equals("AM")) {

Find full path of the Python interpreter?

Just noting a different way of questionable usefulness, using os.environ:

Python dictionary: Get list of values for list of keys

A little speed comparison:

Python 2.7.11 |Anaconda 2.4.1 (64-bit)| (default, Dec  7 2015, 14:10:42) [MSC v.1500 64 bit (AMD64)] on win32
In[1]: l = [0,1,2,3,2,3,1,2,0]
In[2]: m = {0:10, 1:11, 2:12, 3:13}
In[3]: %timeit [m[_] for _ in l]  # list comprehension
1000000 loops, best of 3: 762 ns per loop
In[4]: %timeit map(lambda _: m[_], l)  # using 'map'
1000000 loops, best of 3: 1.66 µs per loop
In[5]: %timeit list(m[_] for _ in l)  # a generator expression passed to a list constructor.
1000000 loops, best of 3: 1.65 µs per loop
In[6]: %timeit map(m.__getitem__, l)
The slowest run took 4.01 times longer than the fastest. This could mean that an intermediate result is being cached
1000000 loops, best of 3: 853 ns per loop
In[7]: %timeit map(m.get, l)
1000000 loops, best of 3: 908 ns per loop
In[33]: from operator import itemgetter
In[34]: %timeit list(itemgetter(*l)(m))
The slowest run took 9.26 times longer than the fastest. This could mean that an intermediate result is being cached
1000000 loops, best of 3: 739 ns per loop

So list comprehension and itemgetter are the fastest ways to do this.

UPDATE: For large random lists and maps I had a bit different results:

Python 2.7.11 |Anaconda 2.4.1 (64-bit)| (default, Dec  7 2015, 14:10:42) [MSC v.1500 64 bit (AMD64)] on win32
In[2]: import numpy.random as nprnd
l = nprnd.randint(1000, size=10000)
m = dict([(_, nprnd.rand()) for _ in range(1000)])
from operator import itemgetter
import operator
f = operator.itemgetter(*l)
%timeit f(m)
%timeit list(itemgetter(*l)(m))
%timeit [m[_] for _ in l]  # list comprehension
%timeit map(m.__getitem__, l)
%timeit list(m[_] for _ in l)  # a generator expression passed to a list constructor.
%timeit map(m.get, l)
%timeit map(lambda _: m[_], l)
1000 loops, best of 3: 1.14 ms per loop
1000 loops, best of 3: 1.68 ms per loop
100 loops, best of 3: 2 ms per loop
100 loops, best of 3: 2.05 ms per loop
100 loops, best of 3: 2.19 ms per loop
100 loops, best of 3: 2.53 ms per loop
100 loops, best of 3: 2.9 ms per loop

So in this case the clear winner is f = operator.itemgetter(*l); f(m), and clear outsider: map(lambda _: m[_], l).

UPDATE for Python 3.6.4:

import numpy.random as nprnd
l = nprnd.randint(1000, size=10000)
m = dict([(_, nprnd.rand()) for _ in range(1000)])
from operator import itemgetter
import operator
f = operator.itemgetter(*l)
%timeit f(m)
%timeit list(itemgetter(*l)(m))
%timeit [m[_] for _ in l]  # list comprehension
%timeit list(map(m.__getitem__, l))
%timeit list(m[_] for _ in l)  # a generator expression passed to a list constructor.
%timeit list(map(m.get, l))
%timeit list(map(lambda _: m[_], l)
1.66 ms ± 74.2 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1000 loops each)
2.1 ms ± 93.2 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)
2.58 ms ± 88.8 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)
2.36 ms ± 60.7 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)
2.98 ms ± 142 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)
2.7 ms ± 284 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)
3.14 ms ± 62.6 µs per loop (mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)

So, results for Python 3.6.4 is almost the same.

Remove trailing zeros from decimal in SQL Server

Out of all the above answers, I found only two that actually worked. do not convert to float, proof here that 3.175 does not work if you do that.

SELECT round(cast(3.175 as float), 2) as roundingcheck,
CASE WHEN
    round(cast(3.175 as float), 2) = 3.18 THEN 'PASSED' ELSE 'FAILED' END
    as roundecheck,
    CAST(round(TRY_CONVERT(DECIMAL(28,2), cast(3.175 as
    float)), 2) as nvarchar(max)) as roundconvert,
    round(CAST(3.175 as DECIMAL(18,10)), 4) as check1,
cast(CAST(round(CAST(3.175 as DECIMAL(18,10)), 4) as decimal(18,2)) as nvarchar(max))  as
    roundconvert2,
cast(CAST(CAST(3.175 as DECIMAL(18,10)) as decimal(18,2)) as nvarchar(max))  as roundconvert3,
cast(CAST(CAST(3.149 as DECIMAL(18,10)) as decimal(18,1)) as nvarchar(max))  as roundconvert4,
cast(FORMAT(round(CAST(3.175 as
    DECIMAL(18,10)), 2), '0.######') as nvarchar(max))  as roundconvert5

Result:

3.17    FAILED  3.17    3.1750000000    3.18    3.18    3.1    3.18

Working answers:

  • If you want to round to 2 decimal places at the same time, use this:

      cast(CAST(CAST(3.175 as DECIMAL(18,10)) as decimal(18,2)) as nvarchar(max))  as roundconvert3,

  • If you don't know how many decimals there are going to be you can use this and use it with round if you need:

     cast(FORMAT(round(CAST(3.175 as DECIMAL(18,10)), 2), '0.######') as nvarchar(max))

C++ class forward declaration

To do anything other than declare a pointer to an object, you need the full definition.

The best solution is to move the implementation in a separate file.

If you must keep this in a header, move the definition after both declarations:

class tile_tree_apple;

class tile_tree : public tile
{
  public:
      tile onDestroy();
      tile tick();
      void onCreate();
};

class tile_tree_apple : public tile
{
  public:
      tile onDestroy();
      tile tick();
      void onCreate();
      tile onUse();
};

tile tile_tree::onDestroy() {return *new tile_grass;};
tile tile_tree::tick() {if (rand()%20==0) return *new tile_tree_apple;};
void tile_tree::onCreate() {health=rand()%5+4; type=TILET_TREE;};

tile tile_tree_apple::onDestroy() {return *new tile_grass;};
tile tile_tree_apple::tick() {if (rand()%20==0) return *new tile_tree;};
void tile_tree_apple::onCreate() {health=rand()%5+4; type=TILET_TREE_APPLE;};
tile tile_tree_apple::onUse() {return *new tile_tree;};

Important

You have memory leaks:

tile tile_tree::onDestroy() {return *new tile_grass;};

will create an object on the heap, which you can't destroy afterwards, unless you do some ugly hacking. Also, your object will be sliced. Don't do this, return a pointer.

Multiple queries executed in java in single statement

I was wondering if it is possible to execute something like this using JDBC.

"SELECT FROM * TABLE;INSERT INTO TABLE;"

Yes it is possible. There are two ways, as far as I know. They are

  1. By setting database connection property to allow multiple queries, separated by a semi-colon by default.
  2. By calling a stored procedure that returns cursors implicit.

Following examples demonstrate the above two possibilities.

Example 1: ( To allow multiple queries ):

While sending a connection request, you need to append a connection property allowMultiQueries=true to the database url. This is additional connection property to those if already exists some, like autoReConnect=true, etc.. Acceptable values for allowMultiQueries property are true, false, yes, and no. Any other value is rejected at runtime with an SQLException.

String dbUrl = "jdbc:mysql:///test?allowMultiQueries=true";

Unless such instruction is passed, an SQLException is thrown.

You have to use execute( String sql ) or its other variants to fetch results of the query execution.

boolean hasMoreResultSets = stmt.execute( multiQuerySqlString );

To iterate through and process results you require following steps:

READING_QUERY_RESULTS: // label
    while ( hasMoreResultSets || stmt.getUpdateCount() != -1 ) {
        if ( hasMoreResultSets ) {
            Resultset rs = stmt.getResultSet();
            // handle your rs here
        } // if has rs
        else { // if ddl/dml/...
            int queryResult = stmt.getUpdateCount();
            if ( queryResult == -1 ) { // no more queries processed
                break READING_QUERY_RESULTS;
            } // no more queries processed
            // handle success, failure, generated keys, etc here
        } // if ddl/dml/...

        // check to continue in the loop
        hasMoreResultSets = stmt.getMoreResults();
    } // while results

Example 2: Steps to follow:

  1. Create a procedure with one or more select, and DML queries.
  2. Call it from java using CallableStatement.
  3. You can capture multiple ResultSets executed in procedure.
    DML results can't be captured but can issue another select
    to find how the rows are affected in the table.

Sample table and procedure:

mysql> create table tbl_mq( i int not null auto_increment, name varchar(10), primary key (i) );
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.16 sec)

mysql> delimiter //
mysql> create procedure multi_query()
    -> begin
    ->  select count(*) as name_count from tbl_mq;
    ->  insert into tbl_mq( names ) values ( 'ravi' );
    ->  select last_insert_id();
    ->  select * from tbl_mq;
    -> end;
    -> //
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.02 sec)
mysql> delimiter ;
mysql> call multi_query();
+------------+
| name_count |
+------------+
|          0 |
+------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

+------------------+
| last_insert_id() |
+------------------+
|                3 |
+------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

+---+------+
| i | name |
+---+------+
| 1 | ravi |
+---+------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

Call Procedure from Java:

CallableStatement cstmt = con.prepareCall( "call multi_query()" );
boolean hasMoreResultSets = cstmt.execute();
READING_QUERY_RESULTS:
    while ( hasMoreResultSets ) {
        Resultset rs = stmt.getResultSet();
        // handle your rs here
    } // while has more rs

How to convert image file data in a byte array to a Bitmap?

The answer of Uttam didnt work for me. I just got null when I do:

Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(bitmapdata, 0, bitmapdata.length);

In my case, bitmapdata only has the buffer of the pixels, so it is imposible for the function decodeByteArray to guess which the width, the height and the color bits use. So I tried this and it worked:

//Create bitmap with width, height, and 4 bytes color (RGBA)
Bitmap bmp = Bitmap.createBitmap(imageWidth, imageHeight, Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888);
ByteBuffer buffer = ByteBuffer.wrap(bitmapdata);
bmp.copyPixelsFromBuffer(buffer);

Check https://developer.android.com/reference/android/graphics/Bitmap.Config.html for different color options

How to call on a function found on another file?

You can use header files.

Good practice.

You can create a file called player.h declare all functions that are need by other cpp files in that header file and include it when needed.

player.h

#ifndef PLAYER_H // To make sure you don't declare the function more than once by including the header multiple times.
#define PLAYER_H

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <SFML/Graphics.hpp>

int playerSprite();

#endif

player.cpp

#include "player.h" // player.h must be in the current directory. or use relative or absolute path to it. e.g #include "include/player.h"

int playerSprite(){
    sf::Texture Texture;
    if(!Texture.loadFromFile("player.png")){
        return 1;
    }
    sf::Sprite Sprite;
    Sprite.setTexture(Texture);
    return 0;
}

main.cpp

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <SFML/Graphics.hpp>
#include "player.h" //Here. Again player.h must be in the current directory. or use relative or absolute path to it.

int main()
{
    // ...
    int p = playerSprite();
    //...

Not such a good practice but works for small projects. declare your function in main.cpp

#include "stdafx.h"
#include <SFML/Graphics.hpp>
// #include "player.cpp"

int playerSprite();  // Here

int main()
{
    // ...
    int p = playerSprite();
    //...

ld: framework not found Pods

I resolved this by dragging .framework file to the Linked Framework and Libraries

Let say I was having this problem due to error FIRAnalyticsConnector not found and I just drag FIRAnalyticsConnector.framwork file to Linked Framework and Libraries and my problem solved

Python Brute Force algorithm

Use itertools.product, combined with itertools.chain to put the various lengths together:

from itertools import chain, product
def bruteforce(charset, maxlength):
    return (''.join(candidate)
        for candidate in chain.from_iterable(product(charset, repeat=i)
        for i in range(1, maxlength + 1)))

Demonstration:

>>> list(bruteforce('abcde', 2))
['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'aa', 'ab', 'ac', 'ad', 'ae', 'ba', 'bb', 'bc', 'bd', 'be', 'ca', 'cb', 'cc', 'cd', 'ce', 'da', 'db', 'dc', 'dd', 'de', 'ea', 'eb', 'ec', 'ed', 'ee']

This will efficiently produce progressively larger words with the input sets, up to length maxlength.

Do not attempt to produce an in-memory list of 26 characters up to length 10; instead, iterate over the results produced:

for attempt in bruteforce(string.ascii_lowercase, 10):
    # match it against your password, or whatever
    if matched:
        break

Why I am Getting Error 'Channel is unrecoverably broken and will be disposed!'

You can see the source code about this output here:

void InputDispatcher::onDispatchCycleBrokenLocked(
        nsecs_t currentTime, const sp<Connection>& connection) {
    ALOGE("channel '%s' ~ Channel is unrecoverably broken and will be disposed!",
            connection->getInputChannelName());
    CommandEntry* commandEntry = postCommandLocked(
            & InputDispatcher::doNotifyInputChannelBrokenLockedInterruptible);
    commandEntry->connection = connection;
}

It's cause by cycle broken locked...

How to add and get Header values in WebApi

As someone already pointed out how to do this with .Net Core, if your header contains a "-" or some other character .Net disallows, you can do something like:

public string Test([FromHeader]string host, [FromHeader(Name = "Content-Type")] string contentType)
{
}

Simple insecure two-way data "obfuscation"?

Other answers here work fine, but AES is a more secure and up-to-date encryption algorithm. This is a class that I obtained a few years ago to perform AES encryption that I have modified over time to be more friendly for web applications (e,g. I've built Encrypt/Decrypt methods that work with URL-friendly string). It also has the methods that work with byte arrays.

NOTE: you should use different values in the Key (32 bytes) and Vector (16 bytes) arrays! You wouldn't want someone to figure out your keys by just assuming that you used this code as-is! All you have to do is change some of the numbers (must be <= 255) in the Key and Vector arrays (I left one invalid value in the Vector array to make sure you do this...). You can use https://www.random.org/bytes/ to generate a new set easily:

Using it is easy: just instantiate the class and then call (usually) EncryptToString(string StringToEncrypt) and DecryptString(string StringToDecrypt) as methods. It couldn't be any easier (or more secure) once you have this class in place.

Ternary operation in CoffeeScript

You may also write it in two statements if it mostly is true use:

a = 5
a = 10 if false

Or use a switch statement if you need more possibilities:

a = switch x
  when true then 5
  when false then 10

With a boolean it may be oversized but i find it very readable.

Getting a slice of keys from a map

A nicer way to do this would be to use append:

keys = []int{}
for k := range mymap {
    keys = append(keys, k)
}

Other than that, you’re out of luck—Go isn’t a very expressive language.

Android: How can I get the current foreground activity (from a service)?

Just recently found out about this. With apis as:

  • minSdkVersion 19
  • targetSdkVersion 26

    ActivityManager.getCurrentActivity(context)

Hope this is of any use.

How to display loading message when an iFrame is loading?

Here's a quick solution for most of the cases:

CSS:

.iframe-loading {
    background:url(/img/loading.gif) center center no-repeat;
}

You can use an animated loading GIF if you want to,

HTML:

<div class="iframe-loading">
    <iframe src="http://your_iframe_url_goes_here"  onload="$('.iframe-loading').css('background-image', 'none');"></iframe>
</div>

Using the onload event you can remove the loading image after the source page is loaded inside your iframe.

If you are not using jQuery, just put an id into the div and replace this part of code:

$('.iframe-loading').css('background-image', 'none');

by something like this:

document.getElementById("myDivName").style.backgroundImage = "none";

All the best!

matplotlib: colorbars and its text labels

To add to tacaswell's answer, the colorbar() function has an optional cax input you can use to pass an axis on which the colorbar should be drawn. If you are using that input, you can directly set a label using that axis.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from mpl_toolkits.axes_grid1 import make_axes_locatable

fig, ax = plt.subplots()
heatmap = ax.imshow(data)
divider = make_axes_locatable(ax)
cax = divider.append_axes('bottom', size='10%', pad=0.6)
cb = fig.colorbar(heatmap, cax=cax, orientation='horizontal')

cax.set_xlabel('data label')  # cax == cb.ax

How to replace all double quotes to single quotes using jquery?

Opening a new tab to read a PDF file

Just use target on your tag <a>

<a href="newsletter_01.pdf" target="_blank">Read more</a>

The target attribute specifies where to open the link. Using "_blank" will make your browser to open a new window/tab.

You could also use target in many ways. See http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_a_target.asp

How can I tell if a VARCHAR variable contains a substring?

Instead of LIKE (which does work as other commenters have suggested), you can alternatively use CHARINDEX:

declare @full varchar(100) = 'abcdefg'
declare @find varchar(100) = 'cde'
if (charindex(@find, @full) > 0)
    print 'exists'

Why can't I use the 'await' operator within the body of a lock statement?

This referes to http://blogs.msdn.com/b/pfxteam/archive/2012/02/12/10266988.aspx , http://winrtstoragehelper.codeplex.com/ , Windows 8 app store and .net 4.5

Here is my angle on this:

The async/await language feature makes many things fairly easy but it also introduces a scenario that was rarely encounter before it was so easy to use async calls: reentrance.

This is especially true for event handlers, because for many events you don't have any clue about whats happening after you return from the event handler. One thing that might actually happen is, that the async method you are awaiting in the first event handler, gets called from another event handler still on the same thread.

Here is a real scenario I came across in a windows 8 App store app: My app has two frames: coming into and leaving from a frame I want to load/safe some data to file/storage. OnNavigatedTo/From events are used for the saving and loading. The saving and loading is done by some async utility function (like http://winrtstoragehelper.codeplex.com/). When navigating from frame 1 to frame 2 or in the other direction, the async load and safe operations are called and awaited. The event handlers become async returning void => they cant be awaited.

However, the first file open operation (lets says: inside a save function) of the utility is async too and so the first await returns control to the framework, which sometime later calls the other utility (load) via the second event handler. The load now tries to open the same file and if the file is open by now for the save operation, fails with an ACCESSDENIED exception.

A minimum solution for me is to secure the file access via a using and an AsyncLock.

private static readonly AsyncLock m_lock = new AsyncLock();
...

using (await m_lock.LockAsync())
{
    file = await folder.GetFileAsync(fileName);
    IRandomAccessStream readStream = await file.OpenAsync(FileAccessMode.Read);
    using (Stream inStream = Task.Run(() => readStream.AsStreamForRead()).Result)
    {
        return (T)serializer.Deserialize(inStream);
    }
}

Please note that his lock basically locks down all file operation for the utility with just one lock, which is unnecessarily strong but works fine for my scenario.

Here is my test project: a windows 8 app store app with some test calls for the original version from http://winrtstoragehelper.codeplex.com/ and my modified version that uses the AsyncLock from Stephen Toub http://blogs.msdn.com/b/pfxteam/archive/2012/02/12/10266988.aspx.

NSURLConnection Using iOS Swift

An abbreviated version of your code worked for me,

class Remote: NSObject {

    var data = NSMutableData()

    func connect(query:NSString) {
        var url =  NSURL.URLWithString("http://www.google.com")
        var request = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
        var conn = NSURLConnection(request: request, delegate: self, startImmediately: true)
    }

     func connection(didReceiveResponse: NSURLConnection!, didReceiveResponse response: NSURLResponse!) {
        println("didReceiveResponse")
    }

    func connection(connection: NSURLConnection!, didReceiveData conData: NSData!) {
        self.data.appendData(conData)
    }

    func connectionDidFinishLoading(connection: NSURLConnection!) {
        println(self.data)
    }

    deinit {
        println("deiniting")
    }
}

This is the code I used in the calling class,

class ViewController: UIViewController {

    var remote = Remote()

    @IBAction func downloadTest(sender : UIButton) {
        remote.connect("/apis")
    }

}

You didn't specify in your question where you had this code,

var remote = Remote()
remote.connect("/apis")

If var is a local variable, then the Remote class will be deallocated right after the connect(query:NSString) method finishes, but before the data returns. As you can see by my code, I usually implement reinit (or dealloc up to now) just to make sure when my instances go away. You should add that to your Remote class to see if that's your problem.

In VBA get rid of the case sensitivity when comparing words?

You can convert both the values to lower case and compare.

Here is an example:

If LCase(Range("J6").Value) = LCase("Tawi") Then
   Range("J6").Value = "Tawi-Tawi"
End If

How to load a UIView using a nib file created with Interface Builder

@AVeryDev

6) To attach the loaded view to your view controller's view:

[self.view addSubview:myViewFromNib];

Presumably, it is necessary to remove it from the view to avoid memory leaks.

To clarify: the view controller has several IBOutlets, some of which are connected to items in the original nib file (as usual), and some are connected to items in the loaded nib. Both nib's have the same owner class. The loaded view overlays the original one.

Hint: set the opacity of the main view in the loaded nib to zero, then it won't obscure the items from the original nib.

Android Studio doesn't start, fails saying components not installed

Please do not run Desktop Applications as root. This is a dangerous habit.

I was able to resolve this problem by closing the window with the (X) at the top right. It asked me whether to run the setup wizard the next time too, which you do not want. Then android studio started normally. After that start the android SDK manager and click install on the bottom right.

Hope it helps

How do I get the Back Button to work with an AngularJS ui-router state machine?

The Back button wasn't working for me as well, but I figured out that the problem was that I had html content inside my main page, in the ui-view element.

i.e.

<div ui-view>
     <h1> Hey Kids! </h1>
     <!-- More content -->
</div>

So I moved the content into a new .html file, and marked it as a template in the .js file with the routes.

i.e.

   .state("parent.mystuff", {
        url: "/mystuff",
        controller: 'myStuffCtrl',
        templateUrl: "myStuff.html"
    })

Horizontal swipe slider with jQuery and touch devices support?

I have made somthink like this for one of my website accualy in developpement.

I have used StepCarousel for the caroussel because it's the only one I found that can accept different image size in the same carrousel.

In addition to this to add the touch swipe effect, I have used jquery.touchswipe plugin;

And stepcarousel move panel rigth or left with a fonction so I can make :

$("#slider-actu").touchwipe({
    wipeLeft: function() {stepcarousel.stepBy('slider-actu', 3);},
    wipeRight: function() {stepcarousel.stepBy('slider-actu', -3);},
    min_move_x: 20
});

You can view the actual render at this page

Hope that help you.

Addition for BigDecimal

You can also do it like this:

BigDecimal A = new BigDecimal("10000000000");
BigDecimal B = new BigDecimal("20000000000");
BigDecimal C = new BigDecimal("30000000000");
BigDecimal resultSum = (A).add(B).add(C);
System.out.println("A+B+C= " + resultSum);

Prints:

A+B+C= 60000000000

Where can I get a list of Countries, States and Cities?

Geonames has a lot of data on places (including towns and cities) but it seems to be contributed and perhaps not complete.

Perhaps also try SQL Dumpster, I've used this website a lot for these kinds of databases, cities, provinces, etc. Unfortunately it's not free but only appears to be a one-time fee.

How to write a:hover in inline CSS?

Getting a map() to return a list in Python 3.x

You can try getting a list from the map object by just iterating each item in the object and store it in a different variable.

a = map(chr, [66, 53, 0, 94])
b = [item for item in a]
print(b)
>>>['B', '5', '\x00', '^']

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc2

I was running into a similar error in pywikipediabot. The .decode method is a step in the right direction but for me it didn't work without adding 'ignore':

ignore_encoding = lambda s: s.decode('utf8', 'ignore')

Ignoring encoding errors can lead to data loss or produce incorrect output. But if you just want to get it done and the details aren't very important this can be a good way to move faster.

Display milliseconds in Excel

Right click on Cell B1 and choose Format Cells. In Custom, put the following in the text box labeled Type:

[h]:mm:ss.000

To set this in code, you can do something like:

Range("A1").NumberFormat = "[h]:mm:ss.000"

That should give you what you're looking for.

NOTE: Specially formatted fields often require that the column width be wide enough for the entire contents of the formatted text. Otherwise, the text will display as ######.

How to capitalize the first letter of word in a string using Java?

Even for "simple" code, I would use libraries. The thing is not the code per se, but the already existing test cases covering exceptional cases. This could be null, empty strings, strings in other languages.

The word manipulation part has been moved out ouf Apache Commons Lang. It is now placed in Apache Commons Text. Get it via https://search.maven.org/artifact/org.apache.commons/commons-text.

You can use WordUtils.capitalize(String str) from Apache Commons Text. It is more powerful than you asked for. It can also capitalize fulle (e.g., fixing "oNe tousand only").

Since it works on complete text, one has to tell it to capitalize only the first word.

WordUtils.capitalize("one thousand only", new char[0]);

Full JUnit class to enable playing with the functionality:

package io.github.koppor;

import org.apache.commons.text.WordUtils;
import org.junit.jupiter.api.Test;

import static org.junit.jupiter.api.Assertions.*;

class AppTest {

  @Test
  void test() {
    assertEquals("One thousand only", WordUtils.capitalize("one thousand only", new char[0]));
  }

}
