Programs & Examples On #Insert statement

SQL Server - Return value after INSERT

There are multiple ways to get the last inserted ID after insert command.

  1. @@IDENTITY : It returns the last Identity value generated on a Connection in current session, regardless of Table and the scope of statement that produced the value
  2. SCOPE_IDENTITY(): It returns the last identity value generated by the insert statement in the current scope in the current connection regardless of the table.
  3. IDENT_CURRENT(‘TABLENAME’) : It returns the last identity value generated on the specified table regardless of Any connection, session or scope. IDENT_CURRENT is not limited by scope and session; it is limited to a specified table.

Now it seems more difficult to decide which one will be exact match for my requirement.

I mostly prefer SCOPE_IDENTITY().

If you use select SCOPE_IDENTITY() along with TableName in insert statement, you will get the exact result as per your expectation.

How to delete an element from a Slice in Golang

here is the playground example with pointers in it. https://play.golang.org/p/uNpTKeCt0sH

Kafka consumer list

I realize that this question is nearly 4 years old now. Much has changed in Kafka since then. This is mentioned above, but only in small print, so I write this for users who stumble over this question as late as I did.

  1. Offsets by default are now stored in a Kafka Topic (not in Zookeeper any more), see Offsets stored in Zookeeper or Kafka?
  2. There's a kafka-consumer-groups utility which returns all the information, including the offset of the topic and partition, of the consumer, and even the lag (Remark: When you ask for the topic's offset, I assume that you mean the offsets of the partitions of the topic). In my Kafka 2.0 test cluster:
kafka-consumer-groups --bootstrap-server kafka:9092 --describe
    --group console-consumer-69763 Consumer group 'console-consumer-69763' has no active members.

Python - Dimension of Data Frame

Summary of all ways to get info on dimensions of DataFrame or Series

There are a number of ways to get information on the attributes of your DataFrame or Series.

Create Sample DataFrame and Series

df = pd.DataFrame({'a':[5, 2, np.nan], 'b':[ 9, 2, 4]})
df

     a  b
0  5.0  9
1  2.0  2
2  NaN  4

s = df['a']
s

0    5.0
1    2.0
2    NaN
Name: a, dtype: float64

shape Attribute

The shape attribute returns a two-item tuple of the number of rows and the number of columns in the DataFrame. For a Series, it returns a one-item tuple.

df.shape
(3, 2)

s.shape
(3,)

len function

To get the number of rows of a DataFrame or get the length of a Series, use the len function. An integer will be returned.

len(df)
3

len(s)
3

size attribute

To get the total number of elements in the DataFrame or Series, use the size attribute. For DataFrames, this is the product of the number of rows and the number of columns. For a Series, this will be equivalent to the len function:

df.size
6

s.size
3

ndim attribute

The ndim attribute returns the number of dimensions of your DataFrame or Series. It will always be 2 for DataFrames and 1 for Series:

df.ndim
2

s.ndim
1

The tricky count method

The count method can be used to return the number of non-missing values for each column/row of the DataFrame. This can be very confusing, because most people normally think of count as just the length of each row, which it is not. When called on a DataFrame, a Series is returned with the column names in the index and the number of non-missing values as the values.

df.count() # by default, get the count of each column

a    2
b    3
dtype: int64

df.count(axis='columns') # change direction to get count of each row

0    2
1    2
2    1
dtype: int64

For a Series, there is only one axis for computation and so it just returns a scalar:

s.count()
2

Use the info method for retrieving metadata

The info method returns the number of non-missing values and data types of each column

df.info()

<class 'pandas.core.frame.DataFrame'>
RangeIndex: 3 entries, 0 to 2
Data columns (total 2 columns):
a    2 non-null float64
b    3 non-null int64
dtypes: float64(1), int64(1)
memory usage: 128.0 bytes

Create a variable name with "paste" in R?

In my case the symbols I create (Tax1, Tax2, etc.) already had values but I wanted to use a loop and assign the symbols to another variable. So the above two answers gave me a way to accomplish this. This may be helpful in answering your question as the assignment of a value can take place anytime later.

output=NULL
for(i in 1:8){
   Tax=eval(as.symbol(paste("Tax",i,sep="")))
   L_Data1=L_Data_all[which(L_Data_all$Taxon==Tax[1] | L_Data_all$Taxon==Tax[2] | L_Data_all$Taxon==Tax[3] | L_Data_all$Taxon==Tax[4] | L_Data_all$Taxon==Tax[5]),]
   L_Data=L_Data1$Length[which(L_Data1$Station==Plant[1] | L_Data1$Station==Plant[2])]
   h=hist(L_Data,breaks=breaks,plot=FALSE)
   output=cbind(output,h$counts)
}

Sql Server string to date conversion

If you want SQL Server to try and figure it out, just use CAST CAST('whatever' AS datetime) However that is a bad idea in general. There are issues with international dates that would come up. So as you've found, to avoid those issues, you want to use the ODBC canonical format of the date. That is format number 120, 20 is the format for just two digit years. I don't think SQL Server has a built-in function that allows you to provide a user given format. You can write your own and might even find one if you search online.

How do I find the MySQL my.cnf location

As noted by konyak you can get the list of places mysql will look for your my.cnf file by running mysqladmin --help. Since this is pretty verbose you can get to the part you care about quickly with:

$ mysqladmin --help | grep -A1 'Default options'

This will give you output similar to:

Default options are read from the following files in the given order:
/etc/my.cnf /etc/mysql/my.cnf /usr/local/etc/my.cnf ~/.my.cnf

Depending on how you installed mysql it is possible that none of these files are present yet. You can cat them in order to see how your config is being built and create your own my.cnf if needed at your preferred location.

How to extract .war files in java? ZIP vs JAR

Like you said, a jar is a zip file (not a special type, but just a plain old zip), so either library could be made to work. The reasoning is that the average person, seeing a *.zip extension, tends to unzip it. Since the app server wants it unzipped, a simple rename keeps people from unzipping it simply out of habit. Likewise, *.war file also should remain uncompressed.

java.util.jar basically just adds additional functionality to java.util.zip with very little extra overhead. Let the java.util.jar be a helper in posting, etc... and use it.

How do I get which JRadioButton is selected from a ButtonGroup

The following code displays which JRadiobutton is selected from Buttongroup on click of a button.
It is done by looping through all JRadioButtons in a particular buttonGroup.

 JRadioButton firstRadioButton=new JRadioButton("Female",true);
 JRadioButton secondRadioButton=new JRadioButton("Male");

 //Create a radio button group using ButtonGroup
 ButtonGroup btngroup=new ButtonGroup();

 btngroup.add(firstRadioButton);
 btngroup.add(secondRadioButton);

 //Create a button with text ( What i select )
 JButton button=new JButton("What i select");

 //Add action listener to created button
 button.addActionListener(this);

 //Get selected JRadioButton from ButtonGroup
  public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event)
  {
     if(event.getSource()==button)
     {
        Enumeration<AbstractButton> allRadioButton=btngroup.getElements();
        while(allRadioButton.hasMoreElements())
        {
           JRadioButton temp=(JRadioButton)allRadioButton.nextElement();
           if(temp.isSelected())
           {
            JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"You select : "+temp.getText());

How to change date format using jQuery?

You don't need any date-specific functions for this, it's just string manipulation:

var parts = fecha2.value.split('-');
var newdate = parts[1]+'-'+parts[2]+'-'+(parseInt(parts[0], 10)%100);

How to remove selected commit log entries from a Git repository while keeping their changes?

You can use git cherry-pick for this. 'cherry-pick' will apply a commit onto the branch your on now.

then do

git rebase --hard <SHA1 of A>

then apply the D and E commits.

git cherry-pick <SHA1 of D>
git cherry-pick <SHA1 of E>

This will skip out the B and C commit. Having said that it might be impossible to apply the D commit to the branch without B, so YMMV.

Excel VBA: function to turn activecell to bold

A UDF will only return a value it won't allow you to change the properties of a cell/sheet/workbook. Move your code to a Worksheet_Change event or similar to change properties.

Eg

Private Sub worksheet_change(ByVal target As Range)
  target.Font.Bold = True
End Sub

AngularJS - pass function to directive

Perhaps I am missing something, but although the other solutions do call the parent scope function there is no ability to pass arguments from directive code, this is because the update-fn is calling updateFn() with fixed parameters, in for example {msg: "Hello World"}. A slight change allows the directive to pass arguments, which I would think is far more useful.

<test color1="color1" update-fn="updateFn"></test>

Note the HTML is passing a function reference, i.e., without () brackets.

JS

var app = angular.module('dr', []);

app.controller("testCtrl", function($scope) {
    $scope.color1 = "color";
    $scope.updateFn = function(msg) {
        alert(msg);
    }
});

app.directive('test', function() {
    return {
        restrict: 'E',
        scope: {
            color1: '=',
            updateFn: '&'
        },
        // object is passed while making the call
        template: "<button ng-click='callUpdate()'>
            Click</button>",
        replace: true,
        link: function(scope, elm, attrs) {
          scope.callUpdate = function() {
            scope.updateFn()("Directive Args");
          }
        }
    }
});

So in the above, the HTML is calling local scope callUpdate function, which then 'fetches' the updateFn from the parent scope and calls the returned function with parameters that the directive can generate.

Vue v-on:click does not work on component

I think the $emit function works better for what I think you're asking for. It keeps your component separated from the Vue instance so that it is reusable in many contexts.

// Child component
<template>
  <div id="app">
    <test @click="$emit('test-click')"></test>
  </div>
</template>

Use it in HTML

// Parent component
<test @test-click="testFunction">

How can I enable cURL for an installed Ubuntu LAMP stack?

What is polymorphism, what is it for, and how is it used?

Polymorphism in coding terms is when your object can exist as multiple types through inheritance etc. If you create a class named "Shape" which defines the number of sides your object has then you can then create a new class which inherits it such as "Square". When you subsequently make an instance of "Square" you can then cast it back and forward from "Shape" to "Square" as required.

  -V, --version Output version information and exit.
  -w, --wait Wait and retry if connection is down.
  --connect-timeout=# Number of seconds before connection timeout.
  --max-allowed-packet=#
                      The maximum packet length to send to or receive from
                      server.
  --net-buffer-length=#
                      The buffer size for TCP/IP and socket communication.
  --select-limit=# Automatic limit for SELECT when using --safe-updates.
  --max-join-size=# Automatic limit for rows in a join when using
                      --safe-updates.
  --secure-auth Refuse client connecting to server if it uses old
                      (pre-4.1.1) protocol.
  --server-arg=name Send embedded server this as a parameter.
  --show-warnings Show warnings after every statement.
  --plugin-dir=name   Directory for client-side plugins.
  --default-auth=name Default authentication client-side plugin to use.
  --binary-mode By default, ASCII '\0' is disallowed and '\r\n' is
                      translated to '\n'. This switch turns off both features,
                      and also turns off parsing of all clientcommands except
                      \C and DELIMITER, in non-interactive mode (for input
                      piped to mysql or loaded using the 'source' command).
                      This is necessary when processing output from mysqlbinlog
                      that may contain blobs.

Factorial in numpy and scipy

The answer for Ashwini is great, in pointing out that scipy.math.factorial, numpy.math.factorial, math.factorial are the same functions. However, I'd recommend use the one that Janne mentioned, that scipy.special.factorial is different. The one from scipy can take np.ndarray as an input, while the others can't.

In [12]: import scipy.special

In [13]: temp = np.arange(10) # temp is an np.ndarray

In [14]: math.factorial(temp) # This won't work
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
TypeError Traceback (most recent call last)
<ipython-input-14-039ec0734458> in <module>()
----> 1 math.factorial(temp)

TypeError: only length-1 arrays can be converted to Python scalars

In [15]: scipy.special.factorial(temp) # This works!
Out[15]:
array([  1.00000000e+00,   1.00000000e+00,   2.00000000e+00,
         6.00000000e+00,   2.40000000e+01,   1.20000000e+02,
         7.20000000e+02,   5.04000000e+03,   4.03200000e+04,
         3.62880000e+05])

So, if you are doing factorial to a np.ndarray, the one from scipy will be easier to code and faster than doing the for-loops.

Error 'tunneling socket' while executing npm install

I had this same error when trying to install Cypress via npm. I tried many of the above solutions as I am behind a proxy, but was still seeing the same error. In the end I found that my WIndows system configuration(can be checked by entering 'set' in command prompt) had HTTP and HTTPS proxys set that differed from the ones vonfigure in npm. I deleted these proxys and it downloaded staright away.

Only allow Numbers in input Tag without Javascript

Though it's probably suggested to get some heavier validation via JS or on the server, HTML5 does support this via the pattern attribute.

Copy all values from fields in one class to another through reflection

I solved the above problem in Kotlin that works fine for me for my Android Apps Development:

 object FieldMapper {

fun <T:Any> copy(to: T, from: T) {
    try {
        val fromClass = from.javaClass

        val fromFields = getAllFields(fromClass)

        fromFields?.let {
            for (field in fromFields) {
                try {
                    field.isAccessible = true
                    field.set(to, field.get(from))
                } catch (e: IllegalAccessException) {
                    e.printStackTrace()
                }

            }
        }
    } catch (e: Exception) {
        e.printStackTrace()
    }

}

private fun getAllFields(paramClass: Class<*>): List<Field> {

    var theClass:Class<*>? = paramClass
    val fields = ArrayList<Field>()
    try {
        while (theClass != null) {
            Collections.addAll(fields, *theClass?.declaredFields)
            theClass = theClass?.superclass
        }
    }catch (e:Exception){
        e.printStackTrace()
    }

    return fields

}

text-align: right; not working for <label>

Label is an inline element - so, unless a width is defined, its width is exact the same which the letters span. Your div element is a block element so its width is by default 100%.

You will have to place the text-align: right; on the div element in your case, or applying display: block; to your label

Another option is to set a width for each label and then use text-align. The display: block method will not be necessary using this.

How do I dump the data of some SQLite3 tables?

How do I find duplicate values in a table in Oracle?

How about:

TypeError: 'bool' object is not callable

Actually you can fix it with following steps -

  1. Do cls.__dict__
  2. This will give you dictionary format output which will contain {'isFilled':True} or {'isFilled':False} depending upon what you have set.
  3. Delete this entry - del cls.__dict__['isFilled']
  4. You will be able to call the method now.

In this case, we delete the entry which overrides the method as mentioned by BrenBarn.

What is the difference between res.end() and res.send()?

res.send() implements res.write, res.setHeaders and res.end:

  1. It checks the data you send and sets the correct response headers.
  2. Then it streams the data with res.write.
  3. Finally, it uses res.end to set the end of the request.

There are some cases in which you will want to do this manually, for example, if you want to stream a file or a large data set. In these cases, you will want to set the headers yourself and use res.write to keep the stream flow.

How can I use the $index inside a ng-repeat to enable a class and show a DIV?

The issue here is that ng-repeat creates its own scope, so when you do selected=$index it creates a new a selected property in that scope rather than altering the existing one. To fix this you have two options:

Change the selected property to a non-primitive (ie object or array, which makes javascript look up the prototype chain) then set a value on that:

$scope.selected = {value: 0};

<a ng-click="selected.value = $index">A{{$index}}</a>

See plunker

or

Use the $parent variable to access the correct property. Though less recommended as it increases coupling between scopes

<a ng-click="$parent.selected = $index">A{{$index}}</a>

See plunker

How would I create a UIAlertView in Swift?

From the UIAlertView class:

// UIAlertView is deprecated. Use UIAlertController with a preferredStyle of UIAlertControllerStyleAlert instead

On iOS 8, you can do this:

let alert = UIAlertController(title: "Alert", message: "Message", preferredStyle: UIAlertControllerStyle.Alert)
alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: "Click", style: UIAlertActionStyle.Default, handler: nil))
self.presentViewController(alert, animated: true, completion: nil)

Now UIAlertController is a single class for creating and interacting with what we knew as UIAlertViews and UIActionSheets on iOS 8.

Edit: To handle actions:

alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: "OK", style: .Default, handler: { action in
    switch action.style{
    case .Default:
        print("default")

    case .Cancel:
        print("cancel")

    case .Destructive:
        print("destructive")
    }
}}))

Edit for Swift 3:

let alert = UIAlertController(title: "Alert", message: "Message", preferredStyle: UIAlertControllerStyle.alert)
alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: "Click", style: UIAlertActionStyle.default, handler: nil))
self.present(alert, animated: true, completion: nil)

Edit for Swift 4.x:

let alert = UIAlertController(title: "Alert", message: "Message", preferredStyle: .alert)
alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: "OK", style: .default, handler: { action in
      switch action.style{
      case .default:
            print("default")

      case .cancel:
            print("cancel")

      case .destructive:
            print("destructive")

}}))
self.present(alert, animated: true, completion: nil)

java.time.format.DateTimeParseException: Text could not be parsed at index 21

Your original problem was wrong pattern symbol "h" which stands for the clock hour (range 1-12). In this case, the am-pm-information is missing. Better, use the pattern symbol "H" instead (hour of day in range 0-23). So the pattern should rather have been like:

uuuu-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSX (best pattern also suitable for strict mode)

Finding duplicate values in a SQL table

SELECT
    name, email, COUNT(*)
FROM
    users
GROUP BY
    name, email
HAVING
    COUNT(*) > 1

Simply group on both of the columns.

Note: the older ANSI standard is to have all non-aggregated columns in the GROUP BY but this has changed with the idea of "functional dependency":

In relational database theory, a functional dependency is a constraint between two sets of attributes in a relation from a database. In other words, functional dependency is a constraint that describes the relationship between attributes in a relation.

How to configure PHP to send e-mail?

To fix this, you must review your PHP.INI, and the mail services setup you have in your server.

But my best advice for you is to forget about the mail() function. It depends on PHP.INI settings, it's configuration is different depending on the platform (Linux or Windows), and it can't handle SMTP authentication, which is a big trouble in current days. Too much headache.

Use "PHP Mailer" instead (https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer), it's a PHP class available for free, and it can handle almost any SMTP server, internal or external, with or without authentication, it works exactly the same way on Linux and Windows, and it won't depend on PHP.INI settings. It comes with many examples, it's very powerful and easy to use.

Combine Date and Time columns using python pandas

First make sure to have the right data types:

df["Date"] = pd.to_datetime(df["Date"])
df["Time"] = pd.to_timedelta(df["Time"])

Then you easily combine them:

df["DateTime"] = df["Date"] + df["Time"]

Using GPU from a docker container?

VBA Macro On Timer style to run code every set number of seconds, i.e. 120 seconds

My solution:

Option Explicit
Public datHora As Date

Function Cronometro(action As Integer) As Integer
'This return the seconds between two >calls
Cronometro = 0
  If action = 1 Then 'Start
    datHora = Now
  End If
  If action = 2 Then 'Time until that moment
    Cronometro = DateDiff("s", datHora, Now)
  End If
End Function

How to use? Easy...

dummy= Cronometro(1) ' This starts the timer

seconds= Cronometro(2) ' This returns the seconds between the first call and this one

Firefox 'Cross-Origin Request Blocked' despite headers

If you don't have a 'real' certificate (and thus using a self-signed one), in Firefox you can go to:

There, fill in the location, eg: https://www.myserver:myport

Jquery checking success of ajax post

The documentation is here: http://docs.jquery.com/Ajax/jQuery.ajax

But, to summarize, the ajax call takes a bunch of options. the ones you are looking for are error and success.

You would call it like this:

$.ajax({
  url: 'mypage.html',
  success: function(){
    alert('success');
  },
  error: function(){
    alert('failure');
  }
});

I have shown the success and error function taking no arguments, but they can receive arguments.

The error function can take three arguments: XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, and errorThrown.

The success function can take two arguments: data and textStatus. The page you requested will be in the data argument.

How can I login to a website with Python?

Websites in general can check authorization in many different ways, but the one you're targeting seems to make it reasonably easy for you.

All you need is to POST to the auth/login URL a form-encoded blob with the various fields you see there (forget the labels for, they're decoration for human visitors). handle=whatever&password-clear=pwd and so on, as long as you know the values for the handle (AKA email) and password you should be fine.

Presumably that POST will redirect you to some "you've successfully logged in" page with a Set-Cookie header validating your session (be sure to save that cookie and send it back on further interaction along the session!).

How do I find the version of Apache running without access to the command line?

Warning, some Apache servers do not always send their version number when using HEAD, like in this case:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Fri, 03 Oct 2008 13:09:45 GMT
Server: Apache
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.6RC4-pl0-gentoo
Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=a97a60f86539b5502ad1109f6759585c; path=/
Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT
Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0
Pragma: no-cache
Connection: close
Content-Type: text/html

Connection to host lost.

If PHP is installed then indeed, just use the php info command:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Laravel orderBy on a relationship

It is possible to extend the relation with query functions:

<?php
public function comments()
{
    return $this->hasMany('Comment')->orderBy('column');
}

[edit after comment]

<?php
class User
{
    public function comments()
    {
        return $this->hasMany('Comment');
    }
}

class Controller
{
    public function index()
    {
        $column = Input::get('orderBy', 'defaultColumn');
        $comments = User::find(1)->comments()->orderBy($column)->get();

        // use $comments in the template
    }
}

default User model + simple Controller example; when getting the list of comments, just apply the orderBy() based on Input::get(). (be sure to do some input-checking ;) )

How can I force clients to refresh JavaScript files?

How about adding the filesize as a load parameter?

<script type='text/javascript' src='path/to/file/mylibrary.js?filever=<?=filesize('path/to/file/mylibrary.js')?>'></script>

So every time you update the file the "filever" parameter changes.

How about when you update the file and your update results in the same file size? what are the odds?

Use of Java's Collections.singletonList()?

If an Immutable/Singleton collections refers to the one which having only one object and which is not further gets modified, then the same functionality can be achieved by making a collection "UnmodifiableCollection" having only one object. Since the same functionality can be achieved by Unmodifiable Collection with one object, then what special purpose the Singleton Collection serves for?

Why can't decimal numbers be represented exactly in binary?

As we have been discussing, in floating point arithmetic, the decimal 0.1 cannot be perfectly represented in binary.

Floating point and integer representations provide grids or lattices for the numbers represented. As arithmetic is done, the results fall off the grid and have to be put back onto the grid by rounding. Example is 1/10 on a binary grid.

If we use binary coded decimal representation as one gentleman suggested, would we be able to keep numbers on the grid?

Xcode: Could not locate device support files

Actually, there is a way. You just need to copy DeviceSupport folder for iOS 7.1 from Older Xcode to the new one. It's located in:

/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/7.1

If you don't have the 7.1 files anymore, you can download a previous version of XCode on https://developer.apple.com/download/more/, extract it, and then copy these files to following path

/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/

makefiles - compile all c files at once

You need to take out your suffix rule (%.o: %.c) in favour of a big-bang rule. Something like this:

LIBS  = -lkernel32 -luser32 -lgdi32 -lopengl32
CFLAGS = -Wall

OBJ = 64bitmath.o    \
      monotone.o     \
      node_sort.o    \
      planesweep.o   \
      triangulate.o  \
      prim_combine.o \
      welding.o      \
      test.o         \
      main.o

SRCS = $(OBJ:%.o=%.c)

test: $(SRCS)
    gcc -o $@  $(CFLAGS) $(LIBS) $(SRCS)

If you're going to experiment with GCC's whole-program optimization, make sure that you add the appropriate flag to CFLAGS, above.

On reading through the docs for those flags, I see notes about link-time optimization as well; you should investigate those too.

Java constant examples (Create a java file having only constants)

You can also use the Properties class

Here's the constants file called

# this will hold all of the constants
frameWidth = 1600
frameHeight = 900

Here is the code that uses the constants

public class SimpleGuiAnimation {

    int frameWidth;
    int frameHeight;

    public SimpleGuiAnimation() {
        Properties properties = new Properties();

        try {
            File file = new File("src/main/resources/dataDirectory/gui_constants.properties");
            FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(file);
            properties.load(fileInputStream);
        }
        catch (FileNotFoundException fileNotFoundException) {
            System.out.println("Could not find the properties file" + fileNotFoundException);
        }
        catch (Exception exception) {
            System.out.println("Could not load properties file" + exception.toString());
        }

        this.frameWidth = Integer.parseInt(properties.getProperty("frameWidth"));
        this.frameHeight = Integer.parseInt(properties.getProperty("frameHeight"));
    }

Node.js Best Practice Exception Handling

Catching errors has been very well discussed here, but it's worth remembering to log the errors out somewhere so you can view them and fix stuff up.

?Bunyan is a popular logging framework for NodeJS - it supporst writing out to a bunch of different output places which makes it useful for local debugging, as long as you avoid console.log. ? In your domain's error handler you could spit the error out to a log file.

var log = bunyan.createLogger({
  name: 'myapp',
  streams: [
    {
      level: 'error',
      path: '/var/tmp/myapp-error.log' // log ERROR to this file
    }
  ]
});

This can get time consuming if you have lots of errors and/or servers to check, so it could be worth looking into a tool like Raygun (disclaimer, I work at Raygun) to group errors together - or use them both together. ? If you decided to use Raygun as a tool, it's pretty easy to setup too

var raygunClient = new raygun.Client().init({ apiKey: 'your API key' });
raygunClient.send(theError);

? Crossed with using a tool like PM2 or forever, your app should be able to crash, log out what happened and reboot without any major issues.

How to detect page zoom level in all modern browsers?

Basically, we have:

  • window.devicePixelRatio which takes into account both browser-level zoom* as well as system zoom/pixel density.
    * — on Mac/Safari zoom level is not taken into account
  • media queries
  • vw/vh CSS units
  • resize event, which is triggered upon zoom level change, cause effective size of the window changes

that should be enough for normal UX. If you need to detect zoom level that might be a sign of bad UI design.

Pitch-zoom is harder to track and is not considered currently.

Rails update_attributes without save?

For mass assignment of values to an ActiveRecord model without saving, use either the assign_attributes or attributes= methods. These methods are available in Rails 3 and newer. However, there are minor differences and version-related gotchas to be aware of.

Both methods follow this usage:

@user.assign_attributes{ model: "Sierra", year: "2012", looks: "Sexy" }

@user.attributes = { model: "Sierra", year: "2012", looks: "Sexy" }

Note that neither method will perform validations or execute callbacks; callbacks and validation will happen when save is called.

Rails 3

attributes= differs slightly from assign_attributes in Rails 3. attributes= will check that the argument passed to it is a Hash, and returns immediately if it is not; assign_attributes has no such Hash check. See the ActiveRecord Attribute Assignment API documentation for attributes=.

The following invalid code will silently fail by simply returning without setting the attributes:

@user.attributes = [ { model: "Sierra" }, { year: "2012" }, { looks: "Sexy" } ]

attributes= will silently behave as though the assignments were made successfully, when really, they were not.

This invalid code will raise an exception when assign_attributes tries to stringify the hash keys of the enclosing array:

@user.assign_attributes([ { model: "Sierra" }, { year: "2012" }, { looks: "Sexy" } ])

assign_attributes will raise a NoMethodError exception for stringify_keys, indicating that the first argument is not a Hash. The exception itself is not very informative about the actual cause, but the fact that an exception does occur is very important.

The only difference between these cases is the method used for mass assignment: attributes= silently succeeds, and assign_attributes raises an exception to inform that an error has occurred.

These examples may seem contrived, and they are to a degree, but this type of error can easily occur when converting data from an API, or even just using a series of data transformation and forgetting to Hash[] the results of the final .map. Maintain some code 50 lines above and 3 functions removed from your attribute assignment, and you've got a recipe for failure.

The lesson with Rails 3 is this: always use assign_attributes instead of attributes=.

Rails 4

In Rails 4, attributes= is simply an alias to assign_attributes. See the ActiveRecord Attribute Assignment API documentation for attributes=.

With Rails 4, either method may be used interchangeably. Failure to pass a Hash as the first argument will result in a very helpful exception: ArgumentError: When assigning attributes, you must pass a hash as an argument.

Validations

If you're pre-flighting assignments in preparation to a save, you might be interested in validating before save, as well. You can use the valid? and invalid? methods for this. Both return boolean values. valid? returns true if the unsaved model passes all validations or false if it does not. invalid? is simply the inverse of valid?

valid? can be used like this:

@user.assign_attributes{ model: "Sierra", year: "2012", looks: "Sexy" }.valid?

This will give you the ability to handle any validations issues in advance of calling save.

Validate phone number using angular js

Use ng-pattern, in this example you can validate a simple patern with 10 numbers, when the patern is not matched ,the message is show and the button is disabled.

 <form  name="phoneNumber">

        <label for="numCell" class="text-strong">Phone number</label>

        <input id="numCell" type="text" name="inputCelular"  ng-model="phoneNumber"
            class="form-control" required  ng-pattern="/^[0-9]{10,10}$/"></input>
        <div class="alert-warning" ng-show="phoneNumber.inputCelular.$error.pattern">
            <p> write a phone number</p>
        </div>

    <button id="button"  class="btn btn-success" click-once ng-disabled="!phoneNumber.$valid" ng-click="callDigitaliza()">Buscar</button>

Also you can use another complex patern like

^+?\d{1,3}?[- .]?(?(?:\d{2,3}))?[- .]?\d\d\d[- .]?\d\d\d\d$

, for more complex phone numbers

Why don’t my SVG images scale using the CSS "width" property?

SVGs are different than bitmap images such as PNG etc. If an SVG has a viewBox - as yours appear to - then it will be scaled to fit it's defined viewport. It won't directly scale like a PNG would.

So increasing the width of the img won't make the icons any taller if the height is restricted. You'll just end up with the img horizontally centred in a wider box.

I believe your problem is that your SVGs have a fixed height defined in them. Open up the SVG files and make sure they either:

  1. have no width and height defined, or
  2. have width and height both set to "100%".

That should solve your problem. If it doesn't, post one of your SVGs into your question so we can see how it is defined.

Can we rely on String.isEmpty for checking null condition on a String in Java?

You can't use String.isEmpty() if it is null. Best is to have your own method to check null or empty.

public static boolean isBlankOrNull(String str) {
    return (str == null || "".equals(str.trim()));
}

HashMap to return default value for non-found keys?

Java 8 introduced a nice computeIfAbsent default method to Map interface which stores lazy-computed value and so doesn't break map contract:

Map<Key, Graph> map = new HashMap<>();
map.computeIfAbsent(aKey, key -> createExpensiveGraph(key));

Origin: http://blog.javabien.net/2014/02/20/loadingcache-in-java-8-without-guava/

Disclamer: This answer doesn't match exactly what OP asked but may be handy in some cases matching question's title when keys number is limited and caching of different values would be profitable. It shouldn't be used in opposite case with plenty of keys and same default value as this would needlessly waste memory.

Responsive font size in CSS

You can make the font size responsive if defining it in vw (viewport width). However, not all browsers support it. The solution is to use JavaScript to change the base font size depending on the browser width and set all font sizes in %.

Here is an article describing how to make responsive fontsizes: http://wpsalt.com/responsive-font-size-in-wordpress-theme/

javac: file not found: first.java Usage: javac <options> <source files>

I had the same issue and it was to do with my file name. If you set the file location using CD in CMD, and then type DIR it will list the files in that directory. Check that the file name appears and check that the spelling and filename ending is correct.

It should be .java but mine was .java.txt. The instructions on the Java tutorials website state that you should select "Save as Type Text Documents" but for me that always adds .txt onto the end of the file name. If I change it to "Save as Type All Documents" it correctly saved the file name.

Permission to write to the SD card

The suggested technique above in Dave's answer is certainly a good design practice, and yes ultimately the required permission must be set in the AndroidManifest.xml file to access the external storage.

However, the Mono-esque way to add most (if not all, not sure) "manifest options" is through the attributes of the class implementing the activity (or service).

The Visual Studio Mono plugin automatically generates the manifest, so its best not to manually tamper with it (I'm sure there are cases where there is no other option).

For example:

[Activity(Label="MonoDroid App", MainLauncher=true, Permission="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE")]
public class MonoActivity : Activity
{
  protected override void OnCreate(Bundle bindle)
  {
    base.OnCreate(bindle);
  }
}

// lodash-cherries.js
module.exports = {
  defaults: require('lodash/defaults'),
  isNil: require('lodash/isNil'),
  isObject: require('lodash/isObject'),
  isArray: require('lodash/isArray'),
  isFunction: require('lodash/isFunction'),

How to get everything after a certain character?

The strpos() finds the offset of the underscore, then substr grabs everything from that index plus 1, onwards.

$data = "123_String";
$whatIWant = substr($data, strpos($data, "_") + 1);
echo $whatIWant;

If you also want to check if the underscore character (_) exists in your string before trying to get it, you can use the following:

if (($pos = strpos($data, "_")) !== FALSE) {
    $whatIWant = substr($data, $pos+1);
}

Lookup City and State by Zip Google Geocode Api

couple of months back, I had the same requirement for one of my projects. I searched a bit for it and found out the following solution. This is not the only solution but I found it to one of the simpler one.

Use the webservice at http://www.webservicex.net/uszip.asmx.
Specifically GetInfoByZIP() method.

You will be able to query by any zipcode (ex: 40220) and you will have a response back as the following...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
 <NewDataSet>
  <Table>
   <CITY>Louisville</CITY>
   <STATE>KY</STATE>
   <ZIP>40220</ZIP>
   <AREA_CODE>502</AREA_CODE>
   <TIME_ZONE>E</TIME_ZONE>
  </Table>
</NewDataSet>

Hope this helps...

C# Sort and OrderBy comparison

you should calculate the complexity of algorithms used by the methods OrderBy and Sort. QuickSort has a complexity of n (log n) as i remember, where n is the length of the array.

i've searched for orderby's too, but i could not find any information even in msdn library. if you have not any same values and sorting related to only one property, i prefer to use Sort() method; if not than use OrderBy.

Converting Swagger specification JSON to HTML documentation

There's a small Java program which generates docs (adoc or md) from a yaml file.

Swagger2MarkupConfig config = new Swagger2MarkupConfigBuilder()
        .withMarkupLanguage(MarkupLanguage.ASCIIDOC)
        .withSwaggerMarkupLanguage(MarkupLanguage.ASCIIDOC)
        .withOutputLanguage(Language.DE)
        .build();

Swagger2MarkupConverter builder = Swagger2MarkupConverter.from(yamlFileAsString).withConfig(config).build();
return builder.toFileWithoutExtension(outFile);

Unfortunately it only supports OpenAPI 2.0 but not OpenAPI 3.0.

@synthesize vs @dynamic, what are the differences?

As others have said, in general you use @synthesize to have the compiler generate the getters and/ or settings for you, and @dynamic if you are going to write them yourself.

There is another subtlety not yet mentioned: @synthesize will let you provide an implementation yourself, of either a getter or a setter. This is useful if you only want to implement the getter for some extra logic, but let the compiler generate the setter (which, for objects, is usually a bit more complex to write yourself).

However, if you do write an implementation for a @synthesize'd accessor it must still be backed by a real field (e.g., if you write -(int) getFoo(); you must have an int foo; field). If the value is being produce by something else (e.g. calculated from other fields) then you have to use @dynamic.

Convert Unicode data to int in python

int(limit) returns the value converted into an integer, and doesn't change it in place as you call the function (which is what you are expecting it to).

Do this instead:

limit = int(limit)

Or when definiting limit:

if 'limit' in user_data :
    limit = int(user_data['limit'])

C# Macro definitions in Preprocessor

You can use a C preprocessor (like mcpp) and rig it into your .csproj file. Then you chnage "build action" on your source file from Compile to Preprocess or whatever you call it. Just add BeforBuild to your .csproj like this:

  <Target Name="BeforeBuild" Inputs="@(Preprocess)" Outputs="@(Preprocess->'%(Filename)_P.cs')">
<Exec Command="..\Bin\cpp.exe @(Preprocess) -P -o %(RelativeDir)%(Filename)_P.cs" />
<CreateItem Include="@(Preprocess->'%(RelativeDir)%(Filename)_P.cs')">
  <Output TaskParameter="Include" ItemName="Compile" />
</CreateItem>

You may have to manually change Compile to Preprocess on at least one file (in a text editor) - then the "Preprocess" option should be available for selection in Visual Studio.

I know that macros are heavily overused and misused but removing them completely is equally bad if not worse. A classic example of macro usage would be NotifyPropertyChanged. Every programmer who had to rewrite this code by hand thousands of times knows how painful it is without macros.

Make copy of an array

For a null-safe copy of an array, you can also use an optional with the Object.clone() method provided in this answer.

       System.out.println(line);
   }
}

Add exception handling at the place of your choice, either in this try or elsewhere.

ThreadLocalRandom has a nextLong(long bound) method.

long v = ThreadLocalRandom.current().nextLong(100);

It also has nextLong(long origin, long bound) if you need an origin other than 0. Pass the origin (inclusive) and the bound (exclusive).

long v = ThreadLocalRandom.current().nextLong(10,100); // For 2-digit integers, 10-99 inclusive.

SplittableRandom has the same nextLong methods and allows you to choose a seed if you want a reproducible sequence of numbers.

password-check directive in angularjs

This should solve it:

View:

<div ng-controller='Ctrl'>
   <form name='form'>
      <input data-ng-model='user.password' type="password" name='password' placeholder='password' required>
      <div ng-show="form.password.$error.required">
        Field required</div>
      <input ng-model='user.password_verify' type="password" name='confirm_password' placeholder='confirm password' required data-password-verify="user.password">
      <div ng-show="form.confirm_password.$error.required">
        Field required!</div>
      <div ng-show="form.confirm_password.$error.passwordVerify">
        Fields are not equal!</div>
   </form
</div>

Directive

var app = angular.module('myApp', []);

app.directive("passwordVerify", function() {
   return {
      require: "ngModel",
      scope: {
        passwordVerify: '='
      },
      link: function(scope, element, attrs, ctrl) {
        scope.$watch(function() {
            var combined;

            if (scope.passwordVerify || ctrl.$viewValue) {
               combined = scope.passwordVerify + '_' + ctrl.$viewValue;
            }
            return combined;
        }, function(value) {
            if (value) {
                ctrl.$parsers.unshift(function(viewValue) {
                    var origin = scope.passwordVerify;
                    if (origin !== viewValue) {
                        ctrl.$setValidity("passwordVerify", false);
                        return undefined;
                    } else {
                        ctrl.$setValidity("passwordVerify", true);
                        return viewValue;
                    }
                });
            }
        });
     }
   };

Can we call the function written in one JavaScript in another JS file?

You can call the function created in another js file from the file you are working in. So for this firstly you need to add the external js file into the html document as-

<html>
<head>
    <script type="text/javascript" src='path/to/external/js'></script>
</head>
<body>
........

The function defined in the external javascript file -

$.fn.yourFunctionName = function(){
    alert('function called succesfully for - ' + $(this).html() );
}

To call this function in your current file, just call the function as -

......
<script type="text/javascript">
    $(function(){
        $('#element').yourFunctionName();
    });
</script>

If you want to pass the parameters to the function, then define the function as-

$.fn.functionWithParameters = function(parameter1, parameter2){
        alert('Parameters passed are - ' + parameter1 + ' , ' + parameter2);
}

And call this function in your current file as -

$('#element').functionWithParameters('some parameter', 'another parameter');

Yahoo Finance All Currencies quote API Documentation

As NT3RP told us that:

... we (Yahoo!) don't have a Finance API. It appears some have reverse engineered an API that they use to pull Finance data, but they are breaking our Terms of Service...

So I just thought of sharing this site with you:
http://josscrowcroft.github.com/open-exchange-rates/
[update: site has moved to - http://openexchangerates.org]

This site says:

No access fees, no rate limits, no ugly XML - just free, hourly updated exchange rates in JSON format
[update: Free for personal use, a bargain for your business.]

I hope I've helped and this is of some use to you (and others too). : )

Bootstrap 4: Multilevel Dropdown Inside Navigation

Updated 2018

Here is another variation on the Bootstrap 4.1 Navbar with multi-level dropdown. This one uses minimal CSS for the submenu, and can be re-positioned as desired:

enter image description here

https://www.codeply.com/go/nG6iMAmI2X

.dropdown-submenu {
  position: relative;
}

.dropdown-submenu .dropdown-menu {
  top: 0;
  left: 100%;
  margin-top: -1px;
}

jQuery to control display of submenus:

$('.dropdown-submenu > a').on("click", function(e) {
    var submenu = $(this);
    $('.dropdown-submenu .dropdown-menu').removeClass('show');
    submenu.next('.dropdown-menu').addClass('show');
    e.stopPropagation();
});

$('.dropdown').on("hidden.bs.dropdown", function() {
    // hide any open menus when parent closes
    $('.dropdown-menu.show').removeClass('show');
});

See this answer for activating the Bootstrap 4 submenus on hover

Fixed width buttons with Bootstrap

A block width button could easily become responsive button if the parent container is responsive. I think that using a combination of a fixed width and a more detailed selector path instead of !important because:

1) Its not a hack (setting min-width and max-width the same is however hacky)

2) Does not use the !important tag which is bad practice

3) Uses width so will be very readable and anyone who understands how cascading works in CSS will see whats going on (maybe leave a CSS comment for this?)

4) Combine your selectors that apply to your targeted node for increased accuracy

.parent_element .btn.btn-primary.save-button {
    width: 80px;
}

Switch firefox to use a different DNS than what is in the windows.host file

It's now possible, with the DNS over HTTPS function:

Open Options, General, scroll to very bottom and open Network Settings,

On the very bottom, you can find DNS over HTTPS:

dnsOverHttps

You had to use about:config before to change this setting, here's for documentation:

Type about:config in firefox address bar.

search for: network.trr.uri

You can use one of the DNS servers below:

Cloudflare: https://cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query
Google: https://dns.google/dns-query
Secure DNS EU: https://doh.securedns.eu/dns-query
Quad 9: https://dns.quad9.net/dns-query

And set network.trr.mode to 1

Hijacked from here: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/04/02/configure-dns-over-https-in-firefox/

jQuery: select an element's class and id at the same time?

You can do:

$("#country.save")...

OR

$("a#country.save")...

OR

$("a.save#country")...

as you prefer.

So yes you can specify a selector that has to match ID and class (and potentially tag name and anything else you want to throw in).

How can I convert JSON to a HashMap using Gson?

I had the exact same question and ended up here. I had a different approach that seems much simpler (maybe newer versions of gson?).

    Gson gson = new Gson();
    Map jsonObject = (Map) gson.fromJson(data, Object.class);

with the following json

{
  "map-00": {
    "array-00": [
      "entry-00",
      "entry-01"
     ],
     "value": "entry-02"
   }
}

The following

    Map map00 = (Map) jsonObject.get("map-00");
    List array00 = (List) map00.get("array-00");
    String value = (String) map00.get("value");
    for (int i = 0; i < array00.size(); i++) {
        System.out.println("map-00.array-00[" + i + "]= " + array00.get(i));
    }
    System.out.println("map-00.value = " + value);

outputs

map-00.array-00[0]= entry-00
map-00.array-00[1]= entry-01
map-00.value = entry-02

You could dynamically check using instanceof when navigating your jsonObject. Something like

Map json = gson.fromJson(data, Object.class);
if(json.get("field") instanceof Map) {
  Map field = (Map)json.get("field");
} else if (json.get("field") instanceof List) {
  List field = (List)json.get("field");
} ...

It works for me, so it must work for you ;-)

What are the differences between a clustered and a non-clustered index?

You might have gone through theory part from the above posts:

-The clustered Index as we can see points directly to record i.e. its direct so it takes less time for a search. Additionally it will not take any extra memory/space to store the index

-While, in non-clustered Index, it indirectly points to the clustered Index then it will access the actual record, due to its indirect nature it will take some what more time to access.Also it needs its own memory/space to store the index

Java switch statement: Constant expression required, but it IS constant

Sometimes the switch variable can also make that error for example:

switch(view.getTag()) {//which is an Object type

   case 0://will give compiler error that says Constant expression required

   //...
}

To solve you should cast the variable to int(in this case). So:

switch((int)view.getTag()) {//will be int

   case 0: //No Error

   //...
}

How do you discover model attributes in Rails?

If you're just interested in the properties and data types from the database, you can use Model.inspect.

irb(main):001:0> User.inspect
=> "User(id: integer, email: string, encrypted_password: string,
 reset_password_token: string, reset_password_sent_at: datetime,
 remember_created_at: datetime, sign_in_count: integer,
 current_sign_in_at: datetime, last_sign_in_at: datetime,
 current_sign_in_ip: string, last_sign_in_ip: string, created_at: datetime,
 updated_at: datetime)"

Alternatively, having run rake db:create and rake db:migrate for your development environment, the file db/schema.rb will contain the authoritative source for your database structure:

ActiveRecord::Schema.define(version: 20130712162401) do
  create_table "users", force: true do |t|
    t.string "email", default: "", null: false
    t.string   "encrypted_password",     default: "", null: false
    t.string   "reset_password_token"
    t.datetime "reset_password_sent_at"
    t.datetime "remember_created_at"
    t.integer  "sign_in_count",          default: 0
    t.datetime "current_sign_in_at"
    t.datetime "last_sign_in_at"
    t.string   "current_sign_in_ip"
    t.string   "last_sign_in_ip"
    t.datetime "created_at"
    t.datetime "updated_at"
  end
end

How to retrieve SQL result column value using column name in Python?

Of course there is. In Python 2.7.2+...

import MySQLdb as mdb
con =  mdb.connect('localhost', 'user', 'password', 'db');
cur = con.cursor()
cur.execute('SELECT Foo, Bar FROM Table')
for i in range(int(cur.numrows)):
    foo, bar = cur.fetchone()
    print 'foo = %s' % foo
    print 'bar = %s' % bar

how to set ulimit / file descriptor on docker container the image tag is phusion/baseimage-docker

The docker run command has a --ulimit flag you can use this flag to set the open file limit in your docker container.

Run the following command when spinning up your container to set the open file limit.

docker run --ulimit nofile=<softlimit>:<hardlimit> the first value before the colon indicates the soft file limit and the value after the colon indicates the hard file limit. you can verify this by running your container in interactive mode and executing the following command in your containers shell ulimit -n

How can I start an interactive console for Perl?

I think you're asking about a REPL (Read, Evaluate, Print, Loop) interface to perl. There are a few ways to do this:

  • Matt Trout has an article that describes how to write one
  • Adriano Ferreira has described some options
  • and finally, you can hop on IRC at irc.perl.org and try out one of the eval bots in many of the popular channels. They will evaluate chunks of perl that you pass to them.

Why do you use typedef when declaring an enum in C++?

In some C codestyle guide the typedef version is said to be preferred for "clarity" and "simplicity". I disagree, because the typedef obfuscates the real nature of the declared object. In fact, I don't use typedefs because when declaring a C variable I want to be clear about what the object actually is. This choice helps myself to remember faster what an old piece of code actually does, and will help others when maintaining the code in the future.

R: numeric 'envir' arg not of length one in predict()

There are several problems here:

  1. The newdata argument of predict() needs a predictor variable. You should thus pass it values for Coupon, instead of Total, which is the response variable in your model.

  2. The predictor variable needs to be passed in as a named column in a data frame, so that predict() knows what the numbers its been handed represent. (The need for this becomes clear when you consider more complicated models, having more than one predictor variable).

  3. For this to work, your original call should pass df in through the data argument, rather than using it directly in your formula. (This way, the name of the column in newdata will be able to match the name on the RHS of the formula).

With those changes incorporated, this will work:

model <- lm(Total ~ Coupon, data=df)
new <- data.frame(Coupon = df$Coupon)
predict(model, newdata = new, interval="confidence")

Excel VBA Open workbook, perform actions, save as, close

I'll try and answer several different things, however my contribution may not cover all of your questions. Maybe several of us can take different chunks out of this. However, this info should be helpful for you. Here we go..

Opening A Seperate File:

ChDir "[Path here]" 'get into the right folder here
Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'include the filename in this path

'copy data into current workbook or whatever you want here

ActiveWindow.Close                          'closes out the file

Opening A File With Specified Date If It Exists:

I'm not sure how to search your directory to see if a file exists, but in my case I wouldn't bother to search for it, I'd just try to open it and put in some error checking so that if it doesn't exist then display this message or do xyz.

Some common error checking statements:

On Error Resume Next 'if error occurs continues on to the next line (ignores it)

ChDir "[Path here]"
Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'try to open file here

Or (better option):

if one doesn't exist then bring up either a message box or dialogue box to say "the file does not exist, would you like to create a new one?

you would most likely want to use the GoTo ErrorHandler shown below to achieve this

On Error GoTo ErrorHandler:

ChDir "[Path here]"
Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'try to open file here

ErrorHandler:
'Display error message or any code you want to run on error here

Much more info on Error handling here: http://www.cpearson.com/excel/errorhandling.htm

Also if you want to learn more or need to know more generally in VBA I would recommend Siddharth Rout's site, he has lots of tutorials and example code here: http://www.siddharthrout.com/vb-dot-net-and-excel/

Hope this helps!

Example on how to ensure error code doesn't run EVERYtime:

if you debug through the code without the Exit Sub BEFORE the error handler you'll soon realize the error handler will be run everytime regarldess of if there is an error or not. The link below the code example shows a previous answer to this question.

  Sub Macro

    On Error GoTo ErrorHandler:

    ChDir "[Path here]"
    Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'try to open file here

    Exit Sub 'Code will exit BEFORE ErrorHandler if everything goes smoothly
                  'Otherwise, on error, ErrorHandler will be run

    ErrorHandler:
    'Display error message or any code you want to run on error here

  End Sub

Also, look at this other question in you need more reference to how this works: goto block not working VBA

How do I add a user when I'm using Alpine as a base image?

The commands are adduser and addgroup.

Here's a template for Docker you can use in busybox environments (alpine) as well as Debian-based environments (Ubuntu, etc.):

ENV USER=docker
ENV UID=12345
ENV GID=23456

RUN adduser \
    --disabled-password \
    --gecos "" \
    --home "$(pwd)" \
    --ingroup "$USER" \
    --no-create-home \
    --uid "$UID" \
    "$USER"

Note the following:

  • --disabled-password prevents prompt for a password
  • --gecos "" circumvents the prompt for "Full Name" etc. on Debian-based systems
  • --home "$(pwd)" sets the user's home to the WORKDIR. You may not want this.
  • --no-create-home prevents cruft getting copied into the directory from /etc/skel

The usage description for these applications is missing the long flags present in the code for adduser and addgroup.

The following long-form flags should work both in alpine as well as debian-derivatives:

adduser

BusyBox v1.28.4 (2018-05-30 10:45:57 UTC) multi-call binary.

Usage: adduser [OPTIONS] USER [GROUP]

Create new user, or add USER to GROUP

        --home DIR           Home directory
        --gecos GECOS        GECOS field
        --shell SHELL        Login shell
        --ingroup GRP        Group (by name)
        --system             Create a system user
        --disabled-password  Don't assign a password
        --no-create-home     Don't create home directory
        --uid UID            User id

One thing to note is that if --ingroup isn't set then the GID is assigned to match the UID. If the GID corresponding to the provided UID already exists adduser will fail.

addgroup

BusyBox v1.28.4 (2018-05-30 10:45:57 UTC) multi-call binary.

Usage: addgroup [-g GID] [-S] [USER] GROUP

Add a group or add a user to a group

        --gid GID  Group id
        --system   Create a system group

I discovered all of this while trying to write my own alternative to the fixuid project for running containers as the hosts UID/GID.

My entrypoint helper script can be found on GitHub.

The intent is to prepend that script as the first argument to ENTRYPOINT which should cause Docker to infer UID and GID from a relevant bind mount.

An environment variable "TEMPLATE" may be required to determine where the permissions should be inferred from.

(At the time of writing I don't have documentation for my script. It's still on the todo list!!)

C# - Substring: index and length must refer to a location within the string

The second parameter in Substring is the length of the substring, not the end index.

You should probably include handling to check that it does indeed start with what you expect, end with what you expect, and is at least as long as you expect. And then if it doesn't match, you can either do something else or throw a meaningful error.

Here's some example code that validates that url contains your strings, that also is refactored a bit to make it easier to change the prefix/suffix to strip:

var prefix = "www.example.com/";
var suffix = ".jpg";
string url = "www.example.com/aaa/bbb.jpg";

if (url.StartsWith(prefix) && url.EndsWith(suffix) && url.Length >= (prefix.Length + suffix.Length))
{
    string newString = url.Substring(prefix.Length, url.Length - prefix.Length - suffix.Length);
    Console.WriteLine(newString);
}
else
    //handle invalid state

base64 encode in MySQL

Yet another custom implementation that doesn't require support table:

drop function if exists base64_encode;
create function base64_encode(_data blob)

    declare _alphabet char(64) default 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+/';

    declare _i int unsigned default 0;
    declare _chk3 char(6) default '';

        set _chk3 = rpad(hex(binary substr(_data, _i + 1, 3)), 6, '0');
        set _chk3int = conv(_chk3, 16, 10);
        set _enc = concat(
            _enc
            ,                  substr(_alphabet, ((_chk3int >> 18) & 63) + 1, 1)
            , if (_lim-_i > 0, substr(_alphabet, ((_chk3int >> 12) & 63) + 1, 1), '=')
            , if (_lim-_i > 1, substr(_alphabet, ((_chk3int >>  6) & 63) + 1, 1), '=')
            , if (_lim-_i > 2, substr(_alphabet, ((_chk3int >>  0) & 63) + 1, 1), '=')
        );
        set _i = _i + 3;
    end while;

    return _enc;
end;

drop function if exists base64_decode;
create function base64_decode(_enc text)
returns blob
begin
    declare _alphabet char(64) default 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+/';
    declare _lim int unsigned default 0;
    declare _i int unsigned default 0;
    declare _chr1byte tinyint default 0;
    declare _chk4int int default 0;
    declare _chk4int_bits tinyint default 0;
    declare _dec blob default '';

You should convert charset after decoding: convert(base64_decode(base64_encode('????')) using utf8)

Using "&times" word in html changes to ×

You need to escape:

<div class="test">&amp;times</div>

And then read the value using text() to get the unescaped value:

alert($(".test").text()); // outputs: &times

npx command not found

npx should come with npm 5.2+, and you have node 5.6 .. I found that when I install node using nvm for Windows, it doesn't download npx. so just install npx globally:

npm i -g npx

In Linux or Mac OS, if you found any permission related errors use sudo before it.

sudo npm i -g npx

How to get current timestamp in string format in Java? "yyyy.MM.dd.HH.mm.ss"

I am Using this

String timeStamp = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy_HH:mm:ss").format(Calendar.getInstance().getTime());

How to read data when some numbers contain commas as thousand separator?

I think preprocessing is the way to go. You could use Notepad++ which has a regular expression replace option.

For example, if your file were like this:

"1,234","123","1,234"
"234","123","1,234"
123,456,789

Then, you could use the regular expression "([0-9]+),([0-9]+)" and replace it with \1\2

1234,"123",1234
"234","123",1234
123,456,789

Then you could use x <- read.csv(file="x.csv",header=FALSE) to read the file.

How do I check if a SQL Server text column is empty?

I wanted to have a predefined text("No Labs Available") to be displayed if the value was null or empty and my friend helped me with this:

StrengthInfo = CASE WHEN ((SELECT COUNT(UnitsOrdered) FROM [Data_Sub_orders].[dbo].[Snappy_Orders_Sub] WHERE IdPatient = @PatientId and IdDrugService = 226)> 0)
                            THEN cast((S.UnitsOrdered) as varchar(50))
                    ELSE 'No Labs Available'
                    END

How to get records randomly from the oracle database?

SELECT * FROM table SAMPLE(10) WHERE ROWNUM <= 20;

This is more efficient as it doesn't need to sort the Table.

What is the purpose of global.asax in asp.net

The Global.asax file, also known as the ASP.NET application file, is an optional file that contains code for responding to application-level and session-level events raised by ASP.NET or by HTTP modules.

The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size

First, you can use sql command show global variables like 'innodb_buffer%'; to check the buffer size.

Solution is find your my.cnf file and add,

_x000D_
_x000D_
[mysqld]_x000D_
innodb_buffer_pool_size=1G # depends on your data and machine
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

DO NOT forget to add [mysqld], otherwise, it won't work.

In my case, ubuntu 16.04, my.cnf is located under the folder /etc/mysql/.

Why do we have to specify FromBody and FromUri?

Just addition to above answers ..

[FromUri] can also be used to bind complex types from uri parameters instead of passing parameters from querystring

For Ex..

public class GeoPoint
{
    public double Latitude { get; set; }
    public double Longitude { get; set; }
}

[RoutePrefix("api/Values")]
public ValuesController : ApiController
{
    [Route("{Latitude}/{Longitude}")]
    public HttpResponseMessage Get([FromUri] GeoPoint location) { ... }
}

Can be called like:

http://localhost/api/values/47.678558/-122.130989

Paste Excel range in Outlook

First off, RangeToHTML. The script calls it like a method, but it isn't. It's a popular function by MVP Ron de Bruin. Coincidentally, that links points to the exact source of the script you posted, before those few lines got b?u?t?c?h?e?r?e?d? modified.

On with Range.SpecialCells. This method operates on a range and returns only those cells that match the given criteria. In your case, you seem to be only interested in the visible text cells. Importantly, it operates on a Range, not on HTML text.

For completeness sake, I'll post a working version of the script below. I'd certainly advise to disregard it and revisit the excellent original by Ron the Bruin.

Sub Mail_Selection_Range_Outlook_Body()

Dim rng As Range
Dim OutApp As Object
Dim OutMail As Object

Set rng = Nothing
' Only send the visible cells in the selection.

Set rng = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("D4:D12").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible)

Making Enter key on an HTML form submit instead of activating button

You don't need JavaScript to choose your default submit button or input. You just need to mark it up with type="submit", and the other buttons mark them with type="button". In your example:

<button type="button" onclick="return myFunc1()">Button 1</button>
<input type="submit" name="go" value="Submit"/>

Cannot enqueue Handshake after invoking quit

If you using the node-mysql module, just remove the .connect and .end. Just solved the problem myself. Apparently they pushed in unnecessary code in their last iteration that is also bugged. You don't need to connect if you have already ran the createConnection call

What is HTTP "Host" header?

I would always recommend going to the authoritative source when trying to understand the meaning and purpose of HTTP headers.

The "Host" header field in a request provides the host and port
information from the target URI, enabling the origin server to
distinguish among resources while servicing requests for multiple
host names on a single IP address.

Unable to add window -- token android.os.BinderProxy is not valid; is your activity running?

one simple workaround is to catch the exception :

try {
        alertDialog.show()
    }
catch (WindowManager.BadTokenException e) {
        //use a log message
    }

It's not elegant but sometimes easy when you have to manage async operations and you are not sure wether activity is up or not when you want to show the dialog.

Create 3D array using Python

The right way would be

[[[0 for _ in range(n)] for _ in range(n)] for _ in range(n)]

(What you're trying to do should be written like (for NxNxN)

[[[0]*n]*n]*n

but that is not correct, see @Adaman comment why).

Mocking member variables of a class using Mockito

Yes, this can be done, as the following test shows (written with the JMockit mocking API, which I develop):

@Test
public void testFirst(@Mocked final Second sec) {
    new NonStrictExpectations() {{ sec.doSecond(); result = "Stubbed Second"; }};

    First first = new First();
    assertEquals("Stubbed Second", first.doSecond());
}

With Mockito, however, such a test cannot be written. This is due to the way mocking is implemented in Mockito, where a subclass of the class to be mocked is created; only instances of this "mock" subclass can have mocked behavior, so you need to have the tested code use them instead of any other instance.

How to set an "Accept:" header on Spring RestTemplate request?

Calling a RESTful API using RestTemplate

Example 1:

RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplate();
// Add the Jackson message converter
restTemplate.getMessageConverters()
                .add(new MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter());
HttpHeaders headers = new HttpHeaders();
headers.setContentType(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON);
headers.set("Authorization", "Basic XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX=");
HttpEntity<String> entity = new HttpEntity<String>("parameters", headers);
restTemplate.getInterceptors()
                .add(new BasicAuthorizationInterceptor(USERID, PWORD));
String requestJson = getRequetJson(Code, emailAddr, firstName, lastName);
response = restTemplate.postForObject(URL, requestJson, MYObject.class);

Example 2:

RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplate();
String requestJson = getRequetJson(code, emil, name, lastName);
HttpHeaders headers = new HttpHeaders();
String userPass = USERID + ":" + PWORD;
String authHeader =
    "Basic " + Base64.getEncoder().encodeToString(userPass.getBytes());
headers.set(HttpHeaders.AUTHORIZATION, authHeader);
headers.setContentType(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON);
headers.setAccept(Collections.singletonList(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON));
HttpEntity<String> request = new HttpEntity<String>(requestJson, headers);
ResponseEntity<MyObject> responseEntity;
responseEntity =
    this.restTemplate.exchange(URI, HttpMethod.POST, request, Object.class);
responseEntity.getBody()

The getRequestJson method creates a JSON Object:

private String getRequetJson(String Code, String emailAddr, String name) {
    ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
    JsonNode rootNode = mapper.createObjectNode();
    ((ObjectNode) rootNode).put("code", Code);
    ((ObjectNode) rootNode).put("email", emailAdd);
    ((ObjectNode) rootNode).put("firstName", name);
    String jsonString = null;
    try {
        jsonString = mapper.writerWithDefaultPrettyPrinter()
                               .writeValueAsString(rootNode);
    }
    catch (JsonProcessingException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
    return jsonString;
}

Can I use if (pointer) instead of if (pointer != NULL)?

Yes, you can. In fact, I prefer to use if(pointer) because it's simpler to read and write once you get used to it.

Also note that C++11 introduced nullptr which is preferred over NULL.

std::string length() and size() member functions

Ruby's just the same, btw, offering both #length and #size as synonyms for the number of items in arrays and hashes (C++ only does it for strings).

Minimalists and people who believe "there ought to be one, and ideally only one, obvious way to do it" (as the Zen of Python recites) will, I guess, mostly agree with your doubts, @Naveen, while fans of Perl's "There's more than one way to do it" (or SQL's syntax with a bazillion optional "noise words" giving umpteen identically equivalent syntactic forms to express one concept) will no doubt be complaining that Ruby, and especially C++, just don't go far enough in offering such synonymical redundancy;-).

How do I access nested HashMaps in Java?

If you plan on constructing HashMaps with variable depth, use a recursive data structure.

Below is an implementation providing a sample interface:

class NestedMap<K, V> {

    private final HashMap<K, NestedMap> child;
    private V value;

    public NestedMap() {
        child = new HashMap<>();
        value = null;
    }

    public boolean hasChild(K k) {
        return this.child.containsKey(k);
    }

    public NestedMap<K, V> getChild(K k) {
        return this.child.get(k);
    }

    public void makeChild(K k) {
        this.child.put(k, new NestedMap());
    }

    public V getValue() {
        return value;
    }

    public void setValue(V v) {
        value = v;
    }
}

and example usage:

class NestedMapIllustration {
    public static void main(String[] args) {

        NestedMap<Character, String> m = new NestedMap<>();

        m.makeChild('f');
        m.getChild('f').makeChild('o');
        m.getChild('f').getChild('o').makeChild('o');
        m.getChild('f').getChild('o').getChild('o').setValue("bar");

        System.out.println(
            "nested element at 'f' -> 'o' -> 'o' is " +
            m.getChild('f').getChild('o').getChild('o').getValue());
    }
}

C++ int to byte array

Using std::vector<unsigned char>:

#include <vector>
using namespace std;

vector<unsigned char> intToBytes(int paramInt)
{
     vector<unsigned char> arrayOfByte(4);
     for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++)
         arrayOfByte[3 - i] = (paramInt >> (i * 8));
     return arrayOfByte;
}

Change type of varchar field to integer: "cannot be cast automatically to type integer"

Try this, it will work for sure.

When writing Rails migrations to convert a string column to an integer you'd usually say:

change_column :table_name, :column_name, :integer

However, PostgreSQL will complain:

PG::DatatypeMismatch: ERROR: column "column_name" cannot be cast automatically to type integer
HINT: Specify a USING expression to perform the conversion.

The "hint" basically tells you that you need to confirm you want this to happen, and how data shall be converted. Just say this in your migration:

change_column :table_name, :column_name, 'integer USING CAST(column_name AS integer)'

The above will mimic what you know from other database adapters. If you have non-numeric data, results may be unexpected (but you're converting to an integer, after all).

    $LogMessage = "$Datetime $LogString"
    Add-content $LogFile -value $LogMessage
}

How to remove an element from the flow?

None?

I mean, other than removing it from the layout entirely with display: none, I'm pretty sure that's it.

Are you facing a particular situation in which position: absolute is not a viable solution?

Sorting Directory.GetFiles()

If you want to sort by something like creation date you probably need to use DirectoryInfo.GetFiles and then sort the resulting array using a suitable Predicate.

TypeError: module.__init__() takes at most 2 arguments (3 given)

In my case where I had the problem I was referring to a module when I tried extending the class.

import logging
class UserdefinedLogging(logging):

If you look at the Documentation Info, you'll see "logging" displayed as module.

In this specific case I had to simply inherit the logging module to create an extra class for the logging.

Problem with SMTP authentication in PHP using PHPMailer, with Pear Mail works

Try adding this:

$mail->SMTPAuth   = true;
$mail->SMTPSecure = "tls";

By looking at your debug logs, you can notice that the failing PhpMailer log shows this:

(..snip..)
SMTP -> ERROR: AUTH not accepted from server: 250 orion.bommtempo.net.br Hello admin-teste.bommtempo.com.br [200.155.129.6]
(..snip..)
503 AUTH command used when not advertised
(..snip..)

While your successful PEAR log shows this:

DEBUG: Send: STARTTLS
DEBUG: Recv: 220 TLS go ahead

My guess is that explicitly asking PHPMailer to use TLS will put it on the right track.
Also, make sure you're using the latest versin of PHPMailer.

Are HTTPS headers encrypted?

New answer to old question, sorry. I thought I'd add my $.02

The OP asked if the headers were encrypted.

They are: in transit.

They are NOT: when not in transit.

So, your browser's URL (and title, in some cases) can display the querystring (which usually contain the most sensitive details) and some details in the header; the browser knows some header information (content type, unicode, etc); and browser history, password management, favorites/bookmarks, and cached pages will all contain the querystring. Server logs on the remote end can also contain querystring as well as some content details.

Also, the URL isn't always secure: the domain, protocol, and port are visible - otherwise routers don't know where to send your requests.

Also, if you've got an HTTP proxy, the proxy server knows the address, usually they don't know the full querystring.

So if the data is moving, it's generally protected. If it's not in transit, it's not encrypted.

Not to nit pick, but data at the end is also decrypted, and can be parsed, read, saved, forwarded, or discarded at will. And, malware at either end can take snapshots of data entering (or exiting) the SSL protocol - such as (bad) Javascript inside a page inside HTTPS which can surreptitiously make http (or https) calls to logging websites (since access to local harddrive is often restricted and not useful).

Also, cookies are not encrypted under the HTTPS protocol, either. Developers wanting to store sensitive data in cookies (or anywhere else for that matter) need to use their own encryption mechanism.

As to cache, most modern browsers won't cache HTTPS pages, but that fact is not defined by the HTTPS protocol, it is entirely dependent on the developer of a browser to be sure not to cache pages received through HTTPS.

So if you're worried about packet sniffing, you're probably okay. But if you're worried about malware or someone poking through your history, bookmarks, cookies, or cache, you are not out of the water yet.

Instead of using XmlSerializer you can use a System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractSerializer. This can serialize dictionaries and interfaces no sweat.

How to insert image in mysql database(table)?

I tried all above solution and fail, it just added a null file to the DB.

However, I was able to get it done by moving the image(fileName.jpg) file first in to below folder(in my case) C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.7\Uploads and then I executed below command and it works for me,

INSERT INTO xx_BLOB(ID,IMAGE) VALUES(1,LOAD_FILE('C:/ProgramData/MySQL/MySQL Server 5.7/Uploads/fileName.jpg'));

Hope this helps.

Split a python list into other "sublists" i.e smaller lists

I'd say

chunks = [data[x:x+100] for x in range(0, len(data), 100)]

If you are using python 2.x instead of 3.x, you can be more memory-efficient by using xrange(), changing the above code to:

chunks = [data[x:x+100] for x in xrange(0, len(data), 100)]

What's the easiest way to escape HTML in Python?

No libraries, pure python, safely escapes text into html text:

        ).replace('\'','&#39;').replace('"','&#34;').encode('ascii', 'xmlcharrefreplace')

SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Symfony2

I was having similar issues connecting to OpenSUSE 13.1 MySQL database with LibreOffice. Update LibreOffice to latest stable "Still" package, then make sure the database is accessible using a tool such as phpMyAdmin. Make sure your user is linked to localhost and not "%" (any). This worked for me, I am able to add data thru LibreOffice.

Side note - LibreOffice Base will not supply "native connection" via MySQL on first attempt, you will need to use the back button, then try again to see the options.

Hope this helps.

How to export all data from table to an insertable sql format?

I have not seen any option in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2012 to-date that will do that.

I am sure you can write something in T-SQL given the time.

Check out TOAD from QUEST - now owned by DELL.

http://www.toadworld.com/products/toad-for-oracle/f/10/t/9778.aspx

Select your rows.
Rt -click -> Export Dataset.
Choose Insert Statement format
Be sure to check “selected rows only”

Nice thing about toad, it works with both SQL server and Oracle. If you have to work with both, it is a good investment.

How to use Class<T> in Java?

Using the generified version of class Class allows you, among other things, to write things like

Class<? extends Collection> someCollectionClass = someMethod();

and then you can be sure that the Class object you receive extends Collection, and an instance of this class will be (at least) a Collection.

bind/unbind service example (android)

First of all, two things that we need to understand,

Client

  • It makes request to a specific server

bindService(new Intent("com.android.vending.billing.InAppBillingService.BIND"), mServiceConn, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE);

here mServiceConn is instance of ServiceConnection class(inbuilt) it is actually interface that we need to implement with two (1st for network connected and 2nd network not connected) method to monitor network connection state.

Server

  • It handles the request of the client and makes replica of its own which is private to client only who send request and this raplica of server runs on different thread.

Now at client side, how to access all the methods of server?

  • Server sends response with IBinder Object. So, IBinder object is our handler which accesses all the methods of Service by using (.) operator.

.

MyService myService;
public ServiceConnection myConnection = new ServiceConnection() {
    public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName className, IBinder binder) {
        Log.d("ServiceConnection","connected");
        myService = binder;
    }
    //binder comes from server to communicate with method's of

    public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName className) {
        Log.d("ServiceConnection","disconnected");
        myService = null;
    }
}

Now how to call method which lies in service

myservice.serviceMethod();

Here myService is object and serviceMethod is method in service. and by this way communication is established between client and server.

This is the important plugin that should be in pom.xml. I spent my two days debugging and researching. This was the solution. This is Apache plugin to tell maven to use the the given Compiler.

What is the purpose of the "role" attribute in HTML?

I realise this is an old question, but another possible consideration depending on your exact requirements is that validating on https://validator.w3.org/ generates warnings as follows:

Adding a JAR to an Eclipse Java library

You might also consider using a build tool like Maven to manage your dependencies. It is very easy to setup and helps manage those dependencies automatically in eclipse. Definitely worth the effort if you have a large project with a lot of external dependencies.
