Convert Rtf to HTML

Mike Stall posted the code for one he wrote in c# here :

http://blogs.msdn.com/jmstall/archive/2006/10/20/rtf_5F00_html.aspx

Get position/offset of element relative to a parent container?

I did it like this in Internet Explorer.

function getWindowRelativeOffset(parentWindow, elem) {
    var offset = {
        left : 0,
        top : 0
    };
    // relative to the target field's document
    offset.left = elem.getBoundingClientRect().left;
    offset.top = elem.getBoundingClientRect().top;
    // now we will calculate according to the current document, this current
    // document might be same as the document of target field or it may be
    // parent of the document of the target field
    var childWindow = elem.document.frames.window;
    while (childWindow != parentWindow) {
        offset.left = offset.left + childWindow.frameElement.getBoundingClientRect().left;
        offset.top = offset.top + childWindow.frameElement.getBoundingClientRect().top;
        childWindow = childWindow.parent;
    }

    return offset;
};

=================== you can call it like this

getWindowRelativeOffset(top, inputElement);

I focus on IE only as per my focus but similar things can be done for other browsers.

c++ parse int from string

You can use istringstream.

string s = "10";

// create an input stream with your string.
istringstream is(str);

int i;
// use is like an input stream
is >> i;

Using a .php file to generate a MySQL dump

To dump database using shell_exec(), below is the method :

shell_exec('mysqldump -h localhost -u username -ppassword databasename  | gzip > dbname.sql.gz');

How can I lock a file using java (if possible)

Use this for unix if you are transferring using winscp or ftp:

public static void isFileReady(File entry) throws Exception {
        long realFileSize = entry.length();
        long currentFileSize = 0;
        do {
            try (FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(entry);) {
                currentFileSize = 0;
                while (fis.available() > 0) {
                    byte[] b = new byte[1024];
                    int nResult = fis.read(b);
                    currentFileSize += nResult;
                    if (nResult == -1)
                        break;
                }
            } catch (Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            }
            System.out.println("currentFileSize=" + currentFileSize + ", realFileSize=" + realFileSize);
        } while (currentFileSize != realFileSize);
    }

Will the IE9 WebBrowser Control Support all of IE9's features, including SVG?

Yes, WebBrowser control uses whatever version of IE you have installed. This means of course that if you run your application on a machine with IE 8 then the IE 9 features you depend on will not be available.

Compiling problems: cannot find crt1.o

./configure --disable-multilib

works for it

OWIN Startup Class Missing

Just check that your packages.config file is checked in (when excluded, there will be a red no-entry symbol shown in the explorer). For some bizarre reason mine was excluded and caused this issue.

SQL Server Output Clause into a scalar variable

You need a table variable and it can be this simple.

declare @ID table (ID int)

insert into MyTable2(ID)
output inserted.ID into @ID
values (1)

How can I match a string with a regex in Bash?

To match regexes you need to use the =~ operator.

Try this:

[[ sed-4.2.2.tar.bz2 =~ tar.bz2$ ]] && echo matched

Alternatively, you can use wildcards (instead of regexes) with the == operator:

[[ sed-4.2.2.tar.bz2 == *tar.bz2 ]] && echo matched

If portability is not a concern, I recommend using [[ instead of [ or test as it is safer and more powerful. See What is the difference between test, [ and [[ ? for details.

Finding smallest value in an array most efficiently

Richie's answer is close. It depends upon the language. Here is a good solution for java:

int smallest =  Integer.MAX_VALUE;
int array[]; // Assume it is filled.
int array_length = array.length;
for (int i = array_length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
    if (array[i] < smallest) {
        smallest = array[i];
    }
}

I go through the array in reverse order, because comparing "i" to "array_length" in the loop comparison requires a fetch and a comparison (two operations), whereas comparing "i" to "0" is a single JVM bytecode operation. If the work being done in the loop is negligible, then the loop comparison consumes a sizable fraction of the time.

Of course, others pointed out that encapsulating the array and controlling inserts will help. If getting the minimum was ALL you needed, keeping the list in sorted order is not necessary. Just keep an instance variable that holds the smallest inserted so far, and compare it to each value as it is added to the array. (Of course, this fails if you remove elements. In that case, if you remove the current lowest value, you need to do a scan of the entire array to find the new lowest value.)

matplotlib: how to change data points color based on some variable

If you want to plot lines instead of points, see this example, modified here to plot good/bad points representing a function as a black/red as appropriate:

def plot(xx, yy, good):
    """Plot data

    Good parts are plotted as black, bad parts as red.

    Parameters
    ----------
    xx, yy : 1D arrays
        Data to plot.
    good : `numpy.ndarray`, boolean
        Boolean array indicating if point is good.
    """
    import numpy as np
    import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
    fig, ax = plt.subplots()
    from matplotlib.colors import from_levels_and_colors
    from matplotlib.collections import LineCollection
    cmap, norm = from_levels_and_colors([0.0, 0.5, 1.5], ['red', 'black'])
    points = np.array([xx, yy]).T.reshape(-1, 1, 2)
    segments = np.concatenate([points[:-1], points[1:]], axis=1)
    lines = LineCollection(segments, cmap=cmap, norm=norm)
    lines.set_array(good.astype(int))
    ax.add_collection(lines)
    plt.show()

How to align content of a div to the bottom

All these answers and none worked for me... I'm no flexbox expert, but this was reasonably easy to figure out, it is simple and easy to understand and use. To separate something from the rest of the content, insert an empty div and let it grow to fill the space.

https://jsfiddle.net/8sfeLmgd/1/

.myContainer {
  display: flex;
  height: 250px;
  flex-flow: column;
}

.filler {
  flex: 1 1;
}

Top

Bottom

This reacts as expected when the bottom content is not fixed sized also when the container is not fixed sized.

How can I convert an HTML table to CSV?

Assuming that you've designed an HTML page containing a table, I would recommend this solution. Worked like charm for me:

$(document).ready(() => {
  $("#buttonExport").click(e => {
    // Getting values of current time for generating the file name
    const dateTime = new Date();
    const day      = dateTime.getDate();
    const month    = dateTime.getMonth() + 1;
    const year     = dateTime.getFullYear();
    const hour     = dateTime.getHours();
    const minute   = dateTime.getMinutes();
    const postfix  = `${day}.${month}.${year}_${hour}.${minute}`;

    // Creating a temporary HTML link element (they support setting file names)
    const downloadElement = document.createElement('a');

    // Getting data from our `div` that contains the HTML table
    const dataType  = 'data:application/vnd.ms-excel';
    const tableDiv  = document.getElementById('divData');
    const tableHTML = tableDiv.outerHTML.replace(/ /g, '%20');

    // Setting the download source
    downloadElement.href = `${dataType},${tableHTML}`;

    // Setting the file name
    downloadElement.download = `exported_table_${postfix}.xls`;

    // Trigger the download
    downloadElement.click();

    // Just in case, prevent default behaviour
    e.preventDefault();
  });
});

You can edit the file format to .csv here:

downloadElement.download = `exported_table_${postfix}.csv`;

UIView bottom border?

You don't have to add a layer for each border, just use a bezier path to draw them once.

CGRect rect = self.bounds;

CGPoint destPoint[4] = {CGPointZero,
    (CGPoint){0, rect.size.height},
    (CGPoint){rect.size.width, rect.size.height},
    (CGPoint){rect.size.width, 0}};

BOOL position[4] = {_top, _left, _bottom, _right};

UIBezierPath *path = [UIBezierPath new];
[path moveToPoint:destPoint[3]];

for (int i = 0; i < 4; ++i) {
    if (position[i]) {
        [path addLineToPoint:destPoint[i]];
    } else {
        [path moveToPoint:destPoint[i]];
    }
}

CAShapeLayer *borderLayer = [CAShapeLayer new];
borderLayer.frame = self.bounds;
borderLayer.path  = path.CGPath;
borderLayer.lineWidth   = _borderWidth ?: 1 / [UIScreen mainScreen].scale;
borderLayer.strokeColor = _borderColor.CGColor;
borderLayer.fillColor   = [UIColor clearColor].CGColor;

[self.layer addSublayer:borderLayer];

Python: How to convert datetime format?

@Tim's answer only does half the work -- that gets it into a datetime.datetime object.

To get it into the string format you require, you use datetime.strftime:

print(datetime.strftime('%b %d,%Y'))

Pass in an enum as a method parameter

public string CreateFile(string id, string name, string description, SupportedPermissions supportedPermissions)
{
    file = new File
    {
       Name = name,
        Id = id,
        Description = description,
        SupportedPermissions = supportedPermissions
    };

    return file.Id;
}

Is there an equivalent method to C's scanf in Java?

You can format your output in Java as described in below code snippet.

public class TestFormat {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
      long n = 461012;
      System.out.format("%d%n", n);      //  -->  "461012"
      System.out.format("%08d%n", n);    //  -->  "00461012"
      System.out.format("%+8d%n", n);    //  -->  " +461012"
      System.out.format("%,8d%n", n);    // -->  " 461,012"
      System.out.format("%+,8d%n%n", n); //  -->  "+461,012"
   }
}

How to get all files under a specific directory in MATLAB?

This answer does not directly answer the question but may be a good solution outside of the box.

I upvoted gnovice's solution, but want to offer another solution: Use the system dependent command of your operating system:

tic
asdfList = getAllFiles('../TIMIT_FULL/train');
toc
% Elapsed time is 19.066170 seconds.

tic
[status,cmdout] = system('find ../TIMIT_FULL/train/ -iname "*.wav"');
C = strsplit(strtrim(cmdout));
toc
% Elapsed time is 0.603163 seconds.

Positive:

  • Very fast (in my case for a database of 18000 files on linux).
  • You can use well tested solutions.
  • You do not need to learn or reinvent a new syntax to select i.e. *.wav files.

Negative:

  • You are not system independent.
  • You rely on a single string which may be hard to parse.

How to break out of jQuery each Loop

I came across the situation where I met a condition that broke the loop, however the code after the .each() function still executed. I then set a flag to "true" with an immediate check for the flag after the .each() function to ensure the code that followed was not executed.

$('.groupName').each(function() {
    if($(this).text() == groupname){
        alert('This group already exists');
        breakOut = true;
        return false;
    }
});

CodeIgniter query: How to move a column value to another column in the same row and save the current time in the original column?

Try like this:

$data = array('current_login' => date('Y-m-d H:i:s'));
$this->db->set('last_login', 'current_login', false);
$this->db->where('id', 'some_id');
$this->db->update('login_table', $data);

Pay particular attention to the set() call's 3rd parameter. false prevents CodeIgniter from quoting the 2nd parameter -- this allows the value to be treated as a table column and not a string value. For any data that doesn't need to special treatment, you can lump all of those declarations into the $data array.

The query generated by above code:

UPDATE `login_table`
SET last_login = current_login, `current_login` = '2018-01-18 15:24:13'
WHERE `id` = 'some_id'

Failed to Connect to MySQL at localhost:3306 with user root

Try to execute below command in your terminal :

mysql -h localhost -P 3306 -u root -p

If you successfully connect to your database, then same thing has to happen with Mysql Workbench.

If you are unable to connect then I think 3306 port is acquired by another process.

Find which process running on 3306 port. If required, give admin privileges using sudo.

netstat -lnp | grep 3306

Kill/stop that process and restart your MySQL server. You are good to go.

Execute below command to find my.cnf file in macbook.

mysql --help | grep cnf

You can change MySQL port to any available port in your system. But after that, make sure you restart MySQL server.

Bash Templating: How to build configuration files from templates with Bash?

To follow up on plockc's answer on this page, here is a dash-suitable version, for those of you looking to avoid bashisms.

eval "cat <<EOF >outputfile
$( cat template.in )

" 2> /dev/null

No value accessor for form control

If you get this issue, then either

  • the formControlName is not located on the value accessor element.
  • or you're not importing the module for that element.

Moving matplotlib legend outside of the axis makes it cutoff by the figure box

Added: I found something that should do the trick right away, but the rest of the code below also offers an alternative.

Use the subplots_adjust() function to move the bottom of the subplot up:

fig.subplots_adjust(bottom=0.2) # <-- Change the 0.02 to work for your plot.

Then play with the offset in the legend bbox_to_anchor part of the legend command, to get the legend box where you want it. Some combination of setting the figsize and using the subplots_adjust(bottom=...) should produce a quality plot for you.

Alternative: I simply changed the line:

fig = plt.figure(1)

to:

fig = plt.figure(num=1, figsize=(13, 13), dpi=80, facecolor='w', edgecolor='k')

and changed

lgd = ax.legend(loc=9, bbox_to_anchor=(0.5,0))

to

lgd = ax.legend(loc=9, bbox_to_anchor=(0.5,-0.02))

and it shows up fine on my screen (a 24-inch CRT monitor).

Here figsize=(M,N) sets the figure window to be M inches by N inches. Just play with this until it looks right for you. Convert it to a more scalable image format and use GIMP to edit if necessary, or just crop with the LaTeX viewport option when including graphics.

Drop all data in a pandas dataframe

My favorite:

df = df.iloc[0:0]

But be aware df.index.max() will be nan. To add items I use:

df.loc[0 if math.isnan(df.index.max()) else df.index.max() + 1] = data

Is there a unique Android device ID?

At Google I/O Reto Meier released a robust answer to how to approach this which should meet most developers needs to track users across installations. Anthony Nolan shows the direction in his answer, but I thought I'd write out the full approach so that others can easily see how to do it (it took me a while to figure out the details).

This approach will give you an anonymous, secure user ID which will be persistent for the user across different devices (based on the primary Google account) and across installs. The basic approach is to generate a random user ID and to store this in the apps' shared preferences. You then use Google's backup agent to store the shared preferences linked to the Google account in the cloud.

Let's go through the full approach. First, we need to create a backup for our SharedPreferences using the Android Backup Service. Start by registering your app via http://developer.android.com/google/backup/signup.html.

Google will give you a backup service key which you need to add to the manifest. You also need to tell the application to use the BackupAgent as follows:

<application android:label="MyApplication"
         android:backupAgent="MyBackupAgent">
    ...
    <meta-data android:name="com.google.android.backup.api_key"
        android:value="your_backup_service_key" />
</application>

Then you need to create the backup agent and tell it to use the helper agent for sharedpreferences:

public class MyBackupAgent extends BackupAgentHelper {
    // The name of the SharedPreferences file
    static final String PREFS = "user_preferences";

    // A key to uniquely identify the set of backup data
    static final String PREFS_BACKUP_KEY = "prefs";

    // Allocate a helper and add it to the backup agent
    @Override
    public void onCreate() {
        SharedPreferencesBackupHelper helper = new SharedPreferencesBackupHelper(this,          PREFS);
        addHelper(PREFS_BACKUP_KEY, helper);
    }
}

To complete the backup you need to create an instance of BackupManager in your main Activity:

BackupManager backupManager = new BackupManager(context);

Finally create a user ID, if it doesn't already exist, and store it in the SharedPreferences:

  public static String getUserID(Context context) {
            private static String uniqueID = null;
        private static final String PREF_UNIQUE_ID = "PREF_UNIQUE_ID";
    if (uniqueID == null) {
        SharedPreferences sharedPrefs = context.getSharedPreferences(
                MyBackupAgent.PREFS, Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
        uniqueID = sharedPrefs.getString(PREF_UNIQUE_ID, null);
        if (uniqueID == null) {
            uniqueID = UUID.randomUUID().toString();
            Editor editor = sharedPrefs.edit();
            editor.putString(PREF_UNIQUE_ID, uniqueID);
            editor.commit();

            //backup the changes
            BackupManager mBackupManager = new BackupManager(context);
            mBackupManager.dataChanged();
        }
    }

    return uniqueID;
}

This User_ID will now be persistent across installations, even if the user moves device.

For more information on this approach see Reto's talk.

And for full details of how to implement the backup agent see Data Backup. I particularly recommend the section at the bottom on testing as the backup does not happen instantaneously and so to test you have to force the backup.

Put Excel-VBA code in module or sheet?

Definitely in Modules.

  • Sheets can be deleted, copied and moved with surprising results.
  • You can't call code in sheet "code-behind" from other modules without fully qualifying the reference. This will lead to coupling of the sheet and the code in other modules/sheets.
  • Modules can be exported and imported into other workbooks, and put under version control
  • Code in split logically into modules (data access, utilities, spreadsheet formatting etc.) can be reused as units, and are easier to manage if your macros get large.

Since the tooling is so poor in primitive systems such as Excel VBA, best practices, obsessive code hygiene and religious following of conventions are important, especially if you're trying to do anything remotely complex with it.

This article explains the intended usages of different types of code containers. It doesn't qualify why these distinctions should be made, but I believe most developers trying to develop serious applications on the Excel platform follow them.

There's also a list of VBA coding conventions I've found helpful, although they're not directly related to Excel VBA. Please ignore the crazy naming conventions they have on that site, it's all crazy hungarian.

Check if table exists

Adding to Gaby's post, my jdbc getTables() for Oracle 10g requires all caps to work:

"employee" -> "EMPLOYEE"

Otherwise I would get an exception:

java.sql.SqlExcepcion exhausted resultset

(even though "employee" is in the schema)

What is the preferred/idiomatic way to insert into a map?

First of all, operator[] and insert member functions are not functionally equivalent :

  • The operator[] will search for the key, insert a default constructed value if not found, and return a reference to which you assign a value. Obviously, this can be inefficient if the mapped_type can benefit from being directly initialized instead of default constructed and assigned. This method also makes it impossible to determine if an insertion has indeed taken place or if you have only overwritten the value for an previously inserted key
  • The insert member function will have no effect if the key is already present in the map and, although it is often forgotten, returns an std::pair<iterator, bool> which can be of interest (most notably to determine if insertion has actually been done).

From all the listed possibilities to call insert, all three are almost equivalent. As a reminder, let's have look at insert signature in the standard :

typedef pair<const Key, T> value_type;

  /* ... */

pair<iterator, bool> insert(const value_type& x);

So how are the three calls different ?

  • std::make_pair relies on template argument deduction and could (and in this case will) produce something of a different type than the actual value_type of the map, which will require an additional call to std::pair template constructor in order to convert to value_type (ie : adding const to first_type)
  • std::pair<int, int> will also require an additional call to the template constructor of std::pair in order to convert the parameter to value_type (ie : adding const to first_type)
  • std::map<int, int>::value_type leaves absolutely no place for doubt as it is directly the parameter type expected by the insert member function.

In the end, I would avoid using operator[] when the objective is to insert, unless there is no additional cost in default-constructing and assigning the mapped_type, and that I don't care about determining if a new key has effectively inserted. When using insert, constructing a value_type is probably the way to go.

What's the difference between Git Revert, Checkout and Reset?

These three commands have entirely different purposes. They are not even remotely similar.

git revert

This command creates a new commit that undoes the changes from a previous commit. This command adds new history to the project (it doesn't modify existing history).

git checkout

This command checks-out content from the repository and puts it in your work tree. It can also have other effects, depending on how the command was invoked. For instance, it can also change which branch you are currently working on. This command doesn't make any changes to the history.

git reset

This command is a little more complicated. It actually does a couple of different things depending on how it is invoked. It modifies the index (the so-called "staging area"). Or it changes which commit a branch head is currently pointing at. This command may alter existing history (by changing the commit that a branch references).

Using these commands

If a commit has been made somewhere in the project's history, and you later decide that the commit is wrong and should not have been done, then git revert is the tool for the job. It will undo the changes introduced by the bad commit, recording the "undo" in the history.

If you have modified a file in your working tree, but haven't committed the change, then you can use git checkout to checkout a fresh-from-repository copy of the file.

If you have made a commit, but haven't shared it with anyone else and you decide you don't want it, then you can use git reset to rewrite the history so that it looks as though you never made that commit.

These are just some of the possible usage scenarios. There are other commands that can be useful in some situations, and the above three commands have other uses as well.

Self-reference for cell, column and row in worksheet functions

I don't see the need for Indirect, especially for conditional formatting.

The simplest way to self-reference a cell, row or column is to refer to it normally, e.g., "=A1" in cell A1, and make the reference partly or completely relative. For example, in a conditional formatting formula for checking whether there's a value in the first column of various cells' rows, enter the following with A1 highlighted and copy as necessary. The conditional formatting will always refer to column A for the row of each cell:

= $A1 <> ""

Best Way to read rss feed in .net Using C#

Add System.ServiceModel in references

Using SyndicationFeed:

string url = "http://fooblog.com/feed";
XmlReader reader = XmlReader.Create(url);
SyndicationFeed feed = SyndicationFeed.Load(reader);
reader.Close();
foreach (SyndicationItem item in feed.Items)
{
    String subject = item.Title.Text;
    String summary = item.Summary.Text;
    ...
}

Set Matplotlib colorbar size to match graph

You can do this easily with a matplotlib AxisDivider.

The example from the linked page also works without using subplots:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from mpl_toolkits.axes_grid1 import make_axes_locatable
import numpy as np

plt.figure()
ax = plt.gca()
im = ax.imshow(np.arange(100).reshape((10,10)))

# create an axes on the right side of ax. The width of cax will be 5%
# of ax and the padding between cax and ax will be fixed at 0.05 inch.
divider = make_axes_locatable(ax)
cax = divider.append_axes("right", size="5%", pad=0.05)

plt.colorbar(im, cax=cax)

enter image description here

Continue For loop

For i=1 To 10
    Do
        'Do everything in here and

        If I_Dont_Want_Finish_This_Loop Then
            Exit Do
        End If

        'Of course, if I do want to finish it,
        'I put more stuff here, and then...

    Loop While False 'quit after one loop
Next i

Can I delete data from the iOS DeviceSupport directory?

Yes, you can delete data from iOS device support by the symbols of the operating system, one for each version for each architecture. It's used for debugging. If you don't need to support those devices any more, you can delete the directory without ill effect

How to change Toolbar Navigation and Overflow Menu icons (appcompat v7)?

To change the navigation icon you can use:

Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.my_awesome_toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
toolbar.setNavigationIcon(R.drawable.my_icon);

To change the overflow icon you can use the method:

toolbar.setOverflowIcon(ContextCompat.getDrawable(this, R.drawable.ic_my_menu);

If you would like to change the color of the icons you can use:

with a Material Components Theme (with a MaterialToolbar for example):

<com.google.android.material.appbar.MaterialToolbar
    android:theme="@style/MyThemeOverlay_Toolbar"
    ...>

With an AppCompat Theme:

<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
  app:theme="@style/ThemeToolbar" />

You can also change the overflow icon overriding in the app theme the actionOverflowButtonStyle attribute:

With a Material Components Theme:

With an AppCompat theme:

AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'model'

I realized that by looking at the stack trace it was trying to load my own script in place of another module called the same way,i.e., my script was called random.py and when a module i used was trying to import the "random" package, it was loading my script causing a circular reference and so i renamed it and deleted a .pyc file it had created from the working folder and things worked just fine.

How to get the PYTHONPATH in shell?

The environment variable PYTHONPATH is actually only added to the list of locations Python searches for modules. You can print out the full list in the terminal like this:

python -c "import sys; print(sys.path)"

Or if want the output in the UNIX directory list style (separated by :) you can do this:

python -c "import sys; print(':'.join(x for x in sys.path if x))"

Which will output something like this:

/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/feedparser-5.1.3-py2.7.egg:/usr/local/lib/
python2.7/dist-packages/stripogram-1.5-py2.7.egg:/home/qiime/lib:/home/debian:/us

How to handle calendar TimeZones using Java?

You say that the date is used in connection with web services, so I assume that is serialized into a string at some point.

If this is the case, you should take a look at the setTimeZone method of the DateFormat class. This dictates which time zone that will be used when printing the time stamp.

A simple example:

SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'");
formatter.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getTimeZone("UTC"));

Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
String timestamp = formatter.format(cal.getTime());

rails generate model

The error shows you either didn't create the rails project yet or you're not in the rails project directory.

Suppose if you're working on myapp project. You've to move to that project directory on your command line and then generate the model. Here are some steps you can refer.

Example: Assuming you didn't create the Rails app yet:

$> rails new myapp
$> cd myapp

Now generate the model from your commandline.

$> rails generate model your_model_name

Access restriction: The type 'Application' is not API (restriction on required library rt.jar)

Had the same problem. Here's how I solved it: Go to Package Explorer. Right click on JRE System Library and go to Properties. In the Classpath Container > Select JRE for the project build path select the third option (Workspace default JRE).

Share link on Google+

As of July 25, 2011, the answer is no.

I have looked through their Javascript and it seems they don't want anyone directly accessing their api for +1 at the moment.

The Javascript that does all of the work for the +1 button is here:

https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js

If you run it through a Javascript cleanup program you can tell that they have obfuscated their code with various functions that only start with letters and constantly refer back to themselves and do cryptic things.

I figure in the next couple of weeks or moths they will release a link based sharing api due to the fact that we will need this for sharing from flash and other web based formats that don't rely on pure html and js.

Git: How to find a deleted file in the project commit history?

Get a list of the deleted files and copy the full path of the deleted file

git log --diff-filter=D --summary | grep delete

Execute the next command to find commit id of that commit and copy the commit id

git log --all -- FILEPATH

Show diff of deleted file

git show COMMIT_ID -- FILE_PATH

Remember, you can write output to a file using > like

git show COMMIT_ID -- FILE_PATH > deleted.diff

Map.Entry: How to use it?

Map.Entry interface helps us iterating a Map class

Check this simple example:

public class MapDemo {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
     Map<Integer,String> map=new HashMap();
     map.put(1, "Kamran");
        map.put(2, "Ali");
        map.put(3, "From");
        map.put(4, "Dir");
        map.put(5, "Lower");
        for(Map.Entry m:map.entrySet()){
        System.out.println(m.getKey()+"  "+m.getValue());
        }
    }
}

perform an action on checkbox checked or unchecked event on html form

We can do this using JavaScript, no need of jQuery. Just pass the changed element and let JavaScript handle it.

HTML

    syn

Simplest Way to Test ODBC on WIndows

You can use the "Test Connection" feature after creating the ODBC connection through Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources.

To test a SQL command itself you could try:

http://www.sqledit.com/odbc/runner.html

http://www.sqledit.com/sqlrun.zip

Or (perhaps easier and more useful in the long run) you can make a test ASP.NET or PHP page in a couple minutes to run SQL statement yourself through IIS.

Split a string by another string in C#

In order to split by a string you'll have to use the string array overload.

string data = "THExxQUICKxxBROWNxxFOX";

return data.Split(new string[] { "xx" }, StringSplitOptions.None);

Database development mistakes made by application developers

I'd like to add: Favoring "Elegant" code over highly performing code. The code that works best against databases is often ugly to the application developer's eye.

Believing that nonsense about premature optimization. Databases must consider performance in the original design and in any subsequent development. Performance is 50% of database design (40% is data integrity and the last 10% is security) in my opinion. Databases which are not built from the bottom up to perform will perform badly once real users and real traffic are placed against the database. Premature optimization doesn't mean no optimization! It doesn't mean you should write code that will almost always perform badly because you find it easier (cursors for example which should never be allowed in a production database unless all else has failed). It means you don't need to look at squeezing out that last little bit of performance until you need to. A lot is known about what will perform better on databases, to ignore this in design and development is short-sighted at best.

Creating an instance of class

   /* 1 */ Foo* foo1 = new Foo ();

Creates an object of type Foo in dynamic memory. foo1 points to it. Normally, you wouldn't use raw pointers in C++, but rather a smart pointer. If Foo was a POD-type, this would perform value-initialization (it doesn't apply here).

   /* 2 */ Foo* foo2 = new Foo;

Identical to before, because Foo is not a POD type.

   /* 3 */ Foo foo3;

Creates a Foo object called foo3 in automatic storage.

   /* 4 */ Foo foo4 = Foo::Foo();

Uses copy-initialization to create a Foo object called foo4 in automatic storage.

   /* 5 */ Bar* bar1 = new Bar ( *new Foo() );

Uses Bar's conversion constructor to create an object of type Bar in dynamic storage. bar1 is a pointer to it.

   /* 6 */ Bar* bar2 = new Bar ( *new Foo );

Same as before.

   /* 7 */ Bar* bar3 = new Bar ( Foo foo5 );

This is just invalid syntax. You can't declare a variable there.

   /* 8 */ Bar* bar3 = new Bar ( Foo::Foo() );

Would work and work by the same principle to 5 and 6 if bar3 wasn't declared on in 7.

5 & 6 contain memory leaks.

Syntax like new Bar ( Foo::Foo() ); is not usual. It's usually new Bar ( (Foo()) ); - extra parenthesis account for most-vexing parse. (corrected)

Adding an .env file to React Project

4 steps

  1. npm install dotenv --save

  2. Next add the following line to your app.

    require('dotenv').config()

  3. Then create a .env file at the root directory of your application and add the variables to it.

// contents of .env

REACT_APP_API_KEY = 'my-secret-api-key'
  1. Finally, add .env to your .gitignore file so that Git ignores it and it never ends up on GitHub.

If you are using create-react-app then you only need step 3 and 4 but keep in mind variable needs to start with REACT_APP_ for it to work.

Reference: https://create-react-app.dev/docs/adding-custom-environment-variables/

NOTE - Need to restart application after adding variable in .env file.

Parsing Query String in node.js

You can use the parse method from the URL module in the request callback.

var http = require('http');
var url = require('url');

// Configure our HTTP server to respond with Hello World to all requests.
var server = http.createServer(function (request, response) {
  var queryData = url.parse(request.url, true).query;
  response.writeHead(200, {"Content-Type": "text/plain"});

  if (queryData.name) {
    // user told us their name in the GET request, ex: http://host:8000/?name=Tom
    response.end('Hello ' + queryData.name + '\n');

  } else {
    response.end("Hello World\n");
  }
});

// Listen on port 8000, IP defaults to 127.0.0.1
server.listen(8000);

I suggest you read the HTTP module documentation to get an idea of what you get in the createServer callback. You should also take a look at sites like http://howtonode.org/ and checkout the Express framework to get started with Node faster.

How to display with n decimal places in Matlab

Calling a java method from c++ in Android

If it's an object method, you need to pass the object to CallObjectMethod:

jobject result = env->CallObjectMethod(obj, messageMe, jstr);

What you were doing was the equivalent of jstr.messageMe().

Since your is a void method, you should call:

env->CallVoidMethod(obj, messageMe, jstr);

If you want to return a result, you need to change your JNI signature (the ()V means a method of void return type) and also the return type in your Java code.

How to add manifest permission to an application?

Assuming you do not have permissions set from your LogCat error description, here is my contents for my AndroidManifest.xml file that has access to the internet:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<application ...
</manifest>

Other than that, you should be fine to download a file from the internet.

Closing Applications

System.Windows.Forms.Application.Exit() - Informs all message pumps that they must terminate, and then closes all application windows after the messages have been processed. This method stops all running message loops on all threads and closes all windows of the application. This method does not force the application to exit. The Exit() method is typically called from within a message loop, and forces Run() to return. To exit a message loop for the current thread only, call ExitThread(). This is the call to use if you are running a Windows Forms application. As a general guideline, use this call if you have called System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run().

System.Environment.Exit(exitCode) - Terminates this process and gives the underlying operating system the specified exit code. This call requires that you have SecurityPermissionFlag.UnmanagedCode permissions. If you do not, a SecurityException error occurs. This is the call to use if you are running a console application.

I hope it is best to use Application.Exit

I really like Darren Cook's and stacker's answers to this problem. I was in the midst of throwing my thoughts into a comment on those, but I believe my approach is too answer-shaped to not leave here.

In short summary, you've identified an algorithm to determine that a Coca-Cola logo is present at a particular location in space. You're now trying to determine, for arbitrary orientations and arbitrary scaling factors, a heuristic suitable for distinguishing Coca-Cola cans from other objects, inclusive of: bottles, billboards, advertisements, and Coca-Cola paraphernalia all associated with this iconic logo. You didn't call out many of these additional cases in your problem statement, but I feel they're vital to the success of your algorithm.

The secret here is determining what visual features a can contains or, through the negative space, what features are present for other Coke products that are not present for cans. To that end, the current top answer sketches out a basic approach for selecting "can" if and only if "bottle" is not identified, either by the presence of a bottle cap, liquid, or other similar visual heuristics.

The problem is this breaks down. A bottle could, for example, be empty and lack the presence of a cap, leading to a false positive. Or, it could be a partial bottle with additional features mangled, leading again to false detection. Needless to say, this isn't elegant, nor is it effective for our purposes.

To this end, the most correct selection criteria for cans appear to be the following:

  • Is the shape of the object silhouette, as you sketched out in your question, correct? If so, +1.
  • If we assume the presence of natural or artificial light, do we detect a chrome outline to the bottle that signifies whether this is made of aluminum? If so, +1.
  • Do we determine that the specular properties of the object are correct, relative to our light sources (illustrative video link on light source detection)? If so, +1.
  • Can we determine any other properties about the object that identify it as a can, including, but not limited to, the topological image skew of the logo, the orientation of the object, the juxtaposition of the object (for example, on a planar surface like a table or in the context of other cans), and the presence of a pull tab? If so, for each, +1.

Your classification might then look like the following:

  • For each candidate match, if the presence of a Coca Cola logo was detected, draw a gray border.
  • For each match over +2, draw a red border.

This visually highlights to the user what was detected, emphasizing weak positives that may, correctly, be detected as mangled cans.

The detection of each property carries a very different time and space complexity, and for each approach, a quick pass through http://dsp.stackexchange.com is more than reasonable for determining the most correct and most efficient algorithm for your purposes. My intent here is, purely and simply, to emphasize that detecting if something is a can by invalidating a small portion of the candidate detection space isn't the most robust or effective solution to this problem, and ideally, you should take the appropriate actions accordingly.

And hey, congrats on the Hacker News posting! On the whole, this is a pretty terrific question worthy of the publicity it received. :)

How can I pass a class member function as a callback?

A pointer to a class member function is not the same as a pointer to a function. A class member takes an implicit extra argument (the this pointer), and uses a different calling convention.

If your API expects a nonmember callback function, that's what you have to pass to it.

How do I filter an array with AngularJS and use a property of the filtered object as the ng-model attribute?

You can use the "filter" filter in your controller to get all the "C" grades. Getting the first element of the result array will give you the title of the subject that has grade "C".

$scope.gradeC = $filter('filter')($scope.results.subjects, {grade: 'C'})[0];

The same with plain ES6:

$scope.gradeC = $scope.results.subjects.filter((subject) => subject.grade === 'C')[0]

Why should I use a container div in HTML?

Most of the browser are taking web page size by default. So, sometime page will not display same in different browser. So, by using user can change for specific HTML element. For example, user can add margin, size, width, height etc of specific HTML tag.

Rounding numbers to 2 digits after comma

UPDATE: Keep in mind, at the time the answer was initially written in 2010, the bellow function toFixed() worked slightly different. toFixed() seems to do some rounding now, but not in the strictly mathematical manner. So be careful with it. Do your tests... The method described bellow will do rounding well, as mathematician would expect.

  • toFixed() - method converts a number into a string, keeping a specified number of decimals. It does not actually rounds up a number, it truncates the number.
  • Math.round(n) - rounds a number to the nearest integer. Thus turning:

0.5 -> 1; 0.05 -> 0

so if you want to round, say number 0.55555, only to the second decimal place; you can do the following(this is step-by-step concept):

  • 0.55555 * 100 = 55.555
  • Math.Round(55.555) -> 56.000
  • 56.000 / 100 = 0.56000
  • (0.56000).toFixed(2) -> 0.56

and this is the code:

(Math.round(number * 100)/100).toFixed(2);

When to use dynamic vs. static libraries

You should think carefully about changes over time, versioning, stability, compatibility, etc.

If there are two apps that use the shared code, do you want to force those apps to change together, in case they need to be compatible with each other? Then use the dll. All the exe's will be using the same code.

Or do you want to isolate them from each other, so that you can change one and be confident you haven't broken the other. Then use the static lib.

DLL hell is when you probably SHOULD HAVE used a static lib, but you used a dll instead, and not all the exes are comaptible with it.

how to change onclick event with jquery?

(2019) I used $('#'+id).removeAttr().off('click').on('click', function(){...});

I tried $('#'+id).off().on(...), but it wouldn't work to reset the onClick attribute every time it was called to be reset.

I use .on('click',function(){...}); to stay away from having to quote block all my javascript functions.

The O.P. could now use:

$(this).removeAttr('onclick').off('click').on('click', function(){ displayCalendar(document.prjectFrm[ia + 'dtSubDate'],'yyyy-mm-dd', this); });

Where this came through for me is when my div was set with the onClick attribute set statically:

Otherwise, if I only had a dynamically attached a listener to it, I would have used the $('#'+id).off().on('click', function(){...});.

Without the off('click') my onClick listeners were being appended not replaced.

Bootstrap Carousel Full Screen

Update Bootstrap 4

Bootstrap 4 has utility classes that make it easier to create a full screen carousel. For example, use the min-vh-100 class on the carousel-item content...

ONE

Full screen carousel demo

This works to make the carousel items full screen, but carousel items that contain images or videos that have a specific size & aspect ratio require further consideration.

Since the viewport h/w ratio is likely to be different than the image or video h/w ratio, usually background images or object-fit are commonly used to size images and videos to "full screen". For videos, use the Bootstrap responsive embed classes as needed for the video ratio (21:9, 19:9, etc...).

Original answer (Bootstrap 3)

Make sure the img inside the carousel item is set to height and width 100%. You also have to make sure the carousel and any of the .item containers (html,body) are 100%...

html,body{height:100%;}
.carousel,.item,.active{height:100%;}
.carousel-inner{height:100%;}

output = p.communicate()[0]
if p.returncode != 0:

Get table column names in MySQL?

I made a PDO function which returns all the column names in an simple array.

public function getColumnNames($table){
    $sql = "SELECT COLUMN_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE table_name = :table";
    try {
        $core = Core::getInstance();
        $stmt = $core->dbh->prepare($sql);
        $stmt->bindValue(':table', $table, PDO::PARAM_STR);
        $stmt->execute();
        $output = array();
        while($row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)){
            $output[] = $row['COLUMN_NAME'];
        }
        return $output;
    }

    catch(PDOException $pe) {
        trigger_error('Could not connect to MySQL database. ' . $pe->getMessage() , E_USER_ERROR);
    }
}

The output will be an array:

OraOLEDB.Oracle provider is not registered on the local machine

My team would stumble upon this issue every now and then in random machines that we would try to install our platform in (we use oracle drivers 12c ver 12.2.0.4 but we came across this bug with other versions as well)

After quite a bit of experimentation we realized what was wrong:

Said machines would have apps that were using the machine-wide oracle drivers silently locking them and preventing the oracle driver-installer from working its magic when would attempt to upgrade/reinstall said oracle-drivers. The sneakiest "app" would be websites running in IIS and the like because these apps essentially auto-start on reboot. To counter this we do the following:

  1. Disable IIS from starting automagically on restart. Do the same for any other apps/services that auto-start themselves on reboot.
  2. Uninstall any previous Oracle driver and double-check that there are no traces left behind in registry or folders.
  3. Reboot the machine
  4. (Re)Install the Oracle drivers and re-enable IIS and other auto-start apps.
  5. Reboot the machine <- This is vital. Oracle's OLE DB drivers won't work unless you reboot the machine.

If this doesn't work then rinse repeat until the OLE DB drivers work. Hope this helps someone out there struggling to figure out what's going on.

Using SHA1 and RSA with java.security.Signature vs. MessageDigest and Cipher

OK, I've worked out what's going on. Leonidas is right, it's not just the hash that gets encrypted (in the case of the Cipher class method), it's the ID of the hash algorithm concatenated with the digest:

  DigestInfo ::= SEQUENCE {
      digestAlgorithm AlgorithmIdentifier,
      digest OCTET STRING
  }

Which is why the encryption by the Cipher and Signature are different.

How to define relative paths in Visual Studio Project?

By default, all paths you define will be relative. The question is: relative to what? There are several options:

  1. Specifying a file or a path with nothing before it. For example: "mylib.lib". In that case, the file will be searched at the Output Directory.
  2. If you add "..\", the path will be calculated from the actual path where the .sln file resides.

Please note that following a macro such as $(SolutionDir) there is no need to add a backward slash "\". Just use $(SolutionDir)mylibdir\mylib.lib. In case you just can't get it to work, open the project file externally from Notepad and check it.

How is attr_accessible used in Rails 4?

Rails 4 now uses strong parameters.

Protecting attributes is now done in the controller. This is an example:

class PeopleController < ApplicationController
  def create
    Person.create(person_params)
  end

  private

  def person_params
    params.require(:person).permit(:name, :age)
  end
end

No need to set attr_accessible in the model anymore.

Dealing with accepts_nested_attributes_for

In order to use accepts_nested_attribute_for with strong parameters, you will need to specify which nested attributes should be whitelisted.

class Person
  has_many :pets
  accepts_nested_attributes_for :pets
end

class PeopleController < ApplicationController
  def create
    Person.create(person_params)
  end

  # ...

  private

  def person_params
    params.require(:person).permit(:name, :age, pets_attributes: [:name, :category])
  end
end

Keywords are self-explanatory, but just in case, you can find more information about strong parameters in the Rails Action Controller guide.

Note: If you still want to use attr_accessible, you need to add protected_attributes to your Gemfile. Otherwise, you will be faced with a RuntimeError.

Keyboard shortcuts with jQuery

After studying some jQuery at Codeacademy I found a solution to bind a key with the animate property. The whole idea was to animate without scrolling to jump from one section to another. The example from Codeacademy was to move Mario through the DOM but I applied this for my website sections (CSS with 100% height). Here is a part of the code:

$(document).keydown(function(key) {
    switch(parseInt(key.which, 10)) {
        case 39:
            $('section').animate({top: "-=100%"}, 2000);
            break;
        case 37:
            $('section').animate({top: "+=100%"}, 2000);
            break;
        default:
            break;
    }
});

I think you could use this for any letter and property.

Getting a "This application is modifying the autolayout engine from a background thread" error?

Obviously you are doing some UI update on back ground thread. Cant predict exactly where, without seeing your code.

These are some situations it might happen:-

you might be doing something on background thread and not using. Being in the same function this code is easier to spot.

DispatchQueue.main.async { // do UI update here }

calling a func doing web request call on background thread and its completion handler calling other func doing ui update. to solve this try checking code where you have updated the UI after webrequest call.

// Do something on background thread
DispatchQueue.global(qos: .userInitiated).async {
   // update UI on main thread
   DispatchQueue.main.async {
                // Updating whole table view
                self.myTableview.reloadData()
            }
}

why should I make a copy of a data frame in pandas

It's necessary to mention that returning copy or view depends on kind of indexing.

The pandas documentation says:

Returning a view versus a copy

The rules about when a view on the data is returned are entirely dependent on NumPy. Whenever an array of labels or a boolean vector are involved in the indexing operation, the result will be a copy. With single label / scalar indexing and slicing, e.g. df.ix[3:6] or df.ix[:, 'A'], a view will be returned.

Dialogs / AlertDialogs: How to "block execution" while dialog is up (.NET-style)

Developers of Android and iOS decided that they are powerful and smart enough to reject Modal Dialog conception (that was on market for many-many years already and didn't bother anyone before), unfortunately for us. I believe that there is work around for Android - since you can show dialog from non-ui thread using Runnable class, there should be a way to wait in that thread (non-ui) until dialog is finished.

Edit: Here is my solution, it works great:

    int pressedButtonID;
    private final Semaphore dialogSemaphore = new Semaphore(0, true);
    final Runnable mMyDialog = new Runnable()
    {
        public void run()
        {
            AlertDialog errorDialog = new AlertDialog.Builder( [your activity object here] ).create();
            errorDialog.setMessage("My dialog!");
            errorDialog.setButton("My Button1", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    pressedButtonID = MY_BUTTON_ID1;
                    dialogSemaphore.release();
                    }
                });
            errorDialog.setButton2("My Button2", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    pressedButtonID = MY_BUTTON_ID2;
                    dialogSemaphore.release();
                    }
                });
            errorDialog.setCancelable(false);
            errorDialog.show();
        }
    };

    public int ShowMyModalDialog() //should be called from non-UI thread
    {
        pressedButtonID = MY_BUTTON_INVALID_ID;
        runOnUiThread(mMyDialog);
        try
        {
            dialogSemaphore.acquire();
        }
        catch (InterruptedException e)
        {
        }
        return pressedButtonID;

What is the difference between "expose" and "publish" in Docker?

Most people use docker compose with networks. The documentation states:

The Docker network feature supports creating networks without the need to expose ports within the network, for detailed information see the overview of this feature).

Which means that if you use networks for communication between containers you don't need to worry about exposing ports.

What is this date format? 2011-08-12T20:17:46.384Z

You can use the following example.

    String date = "2011-08-12T20:17:46.384Z";

    String inputPattern = "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'";

    String outputPattern = "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss";

    LocalDateTime inputDate = null;
    String outputDate = null;

    DateTimeFormatter inputFormatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(inputPattern, Locale.ENGLISH);
    DateTimeFormatter outputFormatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(outputPattern, Locale.ENGLISH);

    inputDate = LocalDateTime.parse(date, inputFormatter);
    outputDate = outputFormatter.format(inputDate);

    System.out.println("inputDate: " + inputDate);
    System.out.println("outputDate: " + outputDate);

batch script - run command on each file in directory

for /r %%v in (*.xls) do ssconvert "%%v" "%%vx"

a couple have people have asked me to explain this, so:

Part 1: for /r %%v in (*.xls)

This part returns an array of files in the current directory that have the xls extension. The %% may look a little curious. This is basically the special % character from command line as used in %PATH% or %TEMP%. To use it in a batch file we need to escape it like so: %%PATH%% or %%TEMP%%. In this case we are simply escaping the temporary variable v, which will hold our array of filenames.

We are using the /r switch to search for files recursively, so any matching files in child folders will also be located.

Part 2: do ssconvert "%%v" "%%vx"

This second part is what will get executed once per matching filename, so if the following files were present in the current folder:

c:\temp\mySheet.xls, c:\temp\mySheet_yesterday.xls, c:\temp\mySheet_20160902.xls

the following commands would be executed:

ssconvert "c:\temp\mySheet.xls" "c:\temp\mySheet.xlsx" ssconvert "c:\temp\mySheet_yesterday.xls" "c:\temp\mySheet_yesterday.xlsx" ssconvert "c:\temp\mySheet_20160902.xls" "c:\temp\mySheet_20160902.xlsx"

Kotlin unresolved reference in IntelliJ

For me, it was due to the project missing Gradle Libraries in its project structure.

Just add in build.gradle: apply plugin: 'idea'

And then run: $ gradle idea

After that gradle rebuilds dependencies libraries and the references are recognized!

How do you make strings "XML safe"?

Try this:

$str = htmlentities($str,ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8');

So, after filtering your data using htmlentities() function, you can use the data in XML tag like:

<mytag>$str</mytag>

How to set Oracle's Java as the default Java in Ubuntu?

If you want this environment variable available to all users and on system start then you can add the following to /etc/profile.d/java.sh (create it if necessary):

export JDK_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle

Then in a terminal run:

sudo chmod +x /etc/profile.d/java.sh
source /etc/profile.d/java.sh

My second question is - should it point to java-6-sun or java-6-sun-1.6.0.24 ?

It should always point to java-7-oracle as that symlinks to the latest installed one (assuming you installed Java from the Ubuntu repositories and now from the download available at oracle.com).

Click toggle with jQuery

Another alternative solution to toggle checkbox value:

$("img.avatar").click(function(){

    var op = !$(this).parent().find(':checkbox').attr('checked');
    $(this).parent().find(':checkbox').attr('checked', op);

});

How to get input text value from inside td

var values = {};
$('td input').each(function(){
  values[$(this).attr('name')] = $(this).val();
}

Haven't tested, but that should do it...

Fastest way to check if a string matches a regexp in ruby?

What about re === str (case compare)?

Since it evaluates to true or false and has no need for storing matches, returning match index and that stuff, I wonder if it would be an even faster way of matching than =~.

Ok, I tested this. =~ is still faster, even if you have multiple capture groups, however it is faster than the other options.

BTW, what good is freeze? I couldn't measure any performance boost from it.

ThreeJS: Remove object from scene

clearScene: function() {
    var objsToRemove = _.rest(scene.children, 1);
    _.each(objsToRemove, function( object ) {
          scene.remove(object);
    });
},

this uses undescore.js to iterrate over all children (except the first) in a scene (it's part of code I use to clear a scene). just make sure you render the scene at least once after deleting, because otherwise the canvas does not change! There is no need for a "special" obj flag or anything like this.

Also you don't delete the object by name, just by the object itself, so calling

scene.remove(object);

instead of scene.remove(object.name); can be enough

PS: _.each is a function of underscore.js

JavaScript: get code to run every minute

You could use setInterval for this.

Disable the timer by setting clearInterval(interval).

Is it possible for UIStackView to scroll?

Up to date for 2020.

100% storyboard OR 100% code.

Here's the simplest possible explanation:

  1. Have a blank full-screen scene

  2. Add a scroll view. Control-drag from the scroll view to the base view, add left-right-top-bottom, all zero.

  3. Add a stack view in the scroll view. Control-drag from the stack view to the scroll view, add left-right-top-bottom, all zero.

  4. Put two or three labels inside the stack view.

For clarity, make the background color of the label red. Set the label height to 100.

  1. Now set the width of each UILabel:

    Surprisingly, control-drag from the UILabel to the scroll view, not to the stack view, and select equal widths.

To repeat:

Don't control drag from the UILabel to the UILabel's parent - go to the grandparent. (In other words, go all the way to the scroll view, do not go to the stack view.)

It's that simple. That's the secret.

Secret tip - Apple bug:

It will not work with only one item! Add a few labels to make the demo work.

You're done.

Tip: You must add a height to every new item. Every item in any scrolling stack view must have either an intrinsic size (such as a label) or add an explicit height constraint.

The alternative approach:

In the above: surprisingly, set the widths of the UILabels to the width of the scroll view (not the stack view).

Alternately...

Drag from the stack view to the scroll view, and add a "width equal" constraint. This seems strange because you already pinned left-right, but that is how you do it. No matter how strange it seems that's the secret.

So you have two options:

  1. Surprisingly, set the width of each item in the stack view to the width of the scrollview grandparent (not the stackview parent).

or

  1. Surprisingly, set a "width equal" of the stackview to the scrollview - even though you do have the left and right edges of the stackview pinned to the scrollview anyway.

To be clear, do ONE of those methods, do NOT do both.

Can a background image be larger than the div itself?

No, you can't.

But as a solid workaround, I would suggest to classify that first div as position:relative and use div::before to create an underlying element containing your image. Classified as position:absolute you can move it anywhere relative to your initial div.

Don't forget to add content to that new element. Here's some example:

div {
  position: relative;
}

div::before {
  content: ""; /* empty but necessary */
  position: absolute;
  background: ...
}

Note: if you want it to be 'on top' of the parent div, use div::after instead.

T-SQL: How to Select Values in Value List that are NOT IN the Table?

You should have a table with the list of emails to check. Then do this query:

SELECT E.Email, CASE WHEN U.Email IS NULL THEN 'Not Exists' ELSE 'Exists' END Status
FROM EmailsToCheck E
LEFT JOIN (SELECT DISTINCT Email FROM Users) U
ON E.Email = U.Email

SELECT * WHERE NOT EXISTS

You can do a LEFT JOIN and assert the joined column is NULL.

Example:

SELECT * FROM employees a LEFT JOIN eotm_dyn b on (a.joinfield=b.joinfield) WHERE b.name IS NULL

powerpoint loop a series of animation

Unfortunately you're probably done with the animation and presentation already. In the hopes this answer can help future questioners, however, this blog post has a walkthrough of steps that can loop a single slide as a sort of sub-presentation.

First, click Slide Show > Set Up Show.

Put a checkmark to Loop continuously until 'Esc'.

Click Ok. Now, Click Slide Show > Custom Shows. Click New.

Select the slide you are looping, click Add. Click Ok and Close.

Click on the slide you are looping. Click Slide Show > Slide Transition. Under Advance slide, put a checkmark to Automatically After. This will allow the slide to loop automatically. Do NOT Apply to all slides.

Right click on the thumbnail of the current slide, select Hide Slide.

Now, you will need to insert a new slide just before the slide you are looping. On the new slide, insert an action button. Set the hyperlink to the custom show you have created. Put a checkmark on "Show and Return"

This has worked for me.

What is the parameter "next" used for in Express?

How to override trait function and call it from the overridden function?

Your last one was almost there:

trait A {
    function calc($v) {
        return $v+1;
    }
}

class MyClass {
    use A {
        calc as protected traitcalc;
    }

    function calc($v) {
        $v++;
        return $this->traitcalc($v);
    }
}

The trait is not a class. You can't access its members directly. It's basically just automated copy and paste...

What is the best collation to use for MySQL with PHP?

It is best to use character set utf8mb4 with the collation utf8mb4_unicode_ci.

The character set, utf8, only supports a small amount of UTF-8 code points, about 6% of possible characters. utf8 only supports the Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP). There 16 other planes. Each plane contains 65,536 characters. utf8mb4 supports all 17 planes.

MySQL will truncate 4 byte UTF-8 characters resulting in corrupted data.

The utf8mb4 character set was introduced in MySQL 5.5.3 on 2010-03-24.

Some of the required changes to use the new character set are not trivial:

  • Changes may need to be made in your application database adapter.
  • Changes will need to be made to my.cnf, including setting the character set, the collation and switching innodb_file_format to Barracuda
  • SQL CREATE statements may need to include: ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC
    • DYNAMIC is required for indexes on VARCHAR(192) and larger.

NOTE: Switching to Barracuda from Antelope, may require restarting the MySQL service more than once. innodb_file_format_max does not change until after the MySQL service has been restarted to: innodb_file_format = barracuda.

MySQL uses the old Antelope InnoDB file format. Barracuda supports dynamic row formats, which you will need if you do not want to hit the SQL errors for creating indexes and keys after you switch to the charset: utf8mb4

  • #1709 - Index column size too large. The maximum column size is 767 bytes.
  • #1071 - Specified key was too long; max key length is 767 bytes

The following scenario has been tested on MySQL 5.6.17: By default, MySQL is configured like this:

SHOW VARIABLES;

innodb_large_prefix = OFF
innodb_file_format = Antelope

Stop your MySQL service and add the options to your existing my.cnf:

[client]
default-character-set= utf8mb4

[mysqld]
explicit_defaults_for_timestamp = true
innodb_large_prefix = true
innodb_file_format = barracuda
innodb_file_format_max = barracuda
innodb_file_per_table = true

# Character collation
character_set_server=utf8mb4
collation_server=utf8mb4_unicode_ci

Example SQL CREATE statement:

CREATE TABLE Contacts (
id INT AUTO_INCREMENT NOT NULL,
ownerId INT DEFAULT NULL,
created timestamp NOT NULL DEFAULT '0000-00-00 00:00:00',
modified timestamp NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
contact VARCHAR(640) NOT NULL,
prefix VARCHAR(128) NOT NULL,
first VARCHAR(128) NOT NULL,
middle VARCHAR(128) NOT NULL,
last VARCHAR(128) NOT NULL,
suffix VARCHAR(128) NOT NULL,
notes MEDIUMTEXT NOT NULL,
INDEX IDX_CA367725E05EFD25 (ownerId),
INDEX created (created),
INDEX modified_idx (modified),
INDEX contact_idx (contact),
PRIMARY KEY(id)
) DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8mb4 COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci ENGINE = InnoDB ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC;
  • You can see error #1709 generated for INDEX contact_idx (contact) if ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC is removed from the CREATE statement.

NOTE: Changing the index to limit to the first 128 characters on contacteliminates the requirement for using Barracuda with ROW_FORMAT=DYNAMIC

INDEX contact_idx (contact(128)),

Also note: when it says the size of the field is VARCHAR(128), that is not 128 bytes. You can use have 128, 4 byte characters or 128, 1 byte characters.

This INSERT statement should contain the 4 byte 'poo' character in the 2 row:

INSERT INTO `Contacts` (`id`, `ownerId`, `created`, `modified`, `contact`, `prefix`, `first`, `middle`, `last`, `suffix`, `notes`) VALUES
(1, NULL, '0000-00-00 00:00:00', '2014-08-25 03:00:36', '1234567890', '12345678901234567890', '1234567890123456789012345678901234567890', '1234567890123456789012345678901234567890', '12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678', '', ''),
(2, NULL, '0000-00-00 00:00:00', '2014-08-25 03:05:57', 'poo', '12345678901234567890', '', '', '', '', ''),
(3, NULL, '0000-00-00 00:00:00', '2014-08-25 03:05:57', 'poo', '12345678901234567890', '', '', '123', '', '');

You can see the amount of space used by the last column:

mysql> SELECT BIT_LENGTH(`last`), CHAR_LENGTH(`last`) FROM `Contacts`;
+--------------------+---------------------+
| BIT_LENGTH(`last`) | CHAR_LENGTH(`last`) |
+--------------------+---------------------+
|               1024 |                 128 | -- All characters are ASCII
|               4096 |                 128 | -- All characters are 4 bytes
|               4024 |                 128 | -- 3 characters are ASCII, 125 are 4 bytes
+--------------------+---------------------+

In your database adapter, you may want to set the charset and collation for your connection:

SET NAMES 'utf8mb4' COLLATE 'utf8mb4_unicode_ci'

In PHP, this would be set for: \PDO::MYSQL_ATTR_INIT_COMMAND

how to check the version of jar file?

Just to expand on the answers above, inside the META-INF/MANIFEST.MF file in the JAR, you will likely see a line: Manifest-Version: 1.0 ? This is NOT the jar versions number!

You need to look for Implementation-Version which, if present, is a free-text string so entirely up to the JAR's author as to what you'll find in there. See also Oracle docs and Package Version specificaion

node.js - request - How to "emitter.setMaxListeners()"?

I strongly advice NOT to use the code:

process.setMaxListeners(0);

The warning is not there without reason. Most of the time, it is because there is an error hidden in your code. Removing the limit removes the warning, but not its cause, and prevents you from being warned of a source of resource leakage.

If you hit the limit for a legitimate reason, put a reasonable value in the function (the default is 10).

Also, to change the default, it is not necessary to mess with the EventEmitter prototype. you can set the value of defaultMaxListeners attribute like so:

require('events').EventEmitter.defaultMaxListeners = 15;

Disable hover effects on mobile browsers

Iv'd found 2 solutions to the problem, which its implied that you detect touch with modernizr or something else and set a touch class on the html element.

This is good but not supported very well:

html.touch *:hover {
    all:unset!important;
}

But this has a very good support:

html.touch *:hover {
    pointer-events: none !important;
}

Works flawless for me, it makes all the hover effects be like when you have a touch on a button it will light up but not end up buggy as the initial hover effect for mouse events.

Detecting touch from no-touch devices i think modernizr has done the best job:

EDIT

I found a better and simpler solution to this issue

How to determine if the client is a touch device

What is the difference between Set and List?

Few note worthy differences between List and Set in Java are given as following :

1) Fundamental difference between List and Set in Java is allowing duplicate elements. List in Java allows duplicates while Set doesn't allow any duplicate. If you insert duplicate in Set it will replace the older value. Any implementation of Set in Java will only contains unique elements.

2) Another significant difference between List and Set in Java is order. List is an Ordered Collection while Set is an unordered Collection. List maintains insertion order of elements, means any element which is inserted before will go on lower index than any element which is inserted after. Set in Java doesn't maintain any order. Though Set provide another alternative called SortedSet which can store Set elements in specific Sorting order defined by Comparable and Comparator methods of Objects stored in Set.

3) Popular implementation of List interface in Java includes ArrayList, Vector and LinkedList. While popular implementation of Set interface includes HashSet, TreeSet and LinkedHashSet.

Its pretty clear that if you need to maintain insertion order or object and you collection can contain duplicates than List is a way to go. On the other hand if your requirement is to maintain unique collection without any duplicates than Set is the way to go.

Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 3 commits

This message from git means that you have made three commits in your local repo, and have not published them to the master repository. The command to run for that is git push {local branch name} {remote branch name}.

The command git pull (and git pull --rebase) are for the other situation when there are commit on the remote repo that you don't have in your local repo. The --rebase option means that git will move your local commit aside, synchronise with the remote repo, and then try to apply your three commit from the new state. It may fail if there is conflict, but then you'll be prompted to resolve them. You can also abort the rebase if you don't know how to resolve the conflicts by using git rebase --abort and you'll get back to the state before running git pull --rebase.

How can I get the active screen dimensions?

I needed to set the maximum size of my window application. This one could changed accordingly the application is is been showed in the primary screen or in the secondary. To overcome this problem e created a simple method that i show you next:

///

/// Set the max size of the application window taking into account the current monitor
///

public static void SetMaxSizeWindow(ioConnect _receiver)
{
    Point absoluteScreenPos = _receiver.PointToScreen(Mouse.GetPosition(_receiver));

    if (System.Windows.SystemParameters.VirtualScreenLeft == System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Left)
    {
        //Primary Monitor is on the Left
        if (absoluteScreenPos.X <= System.Windows.SystemParameters.PrimaryScreenWidth)
        {
            //Primary monitor
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxWidth = System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Width;
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxHeight = System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Height;
        }
        else
        {
            //Secondary monitor
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxWidth = System.Windows.SystemParameters.VirtualScreenWidth - System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Width;
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxHeight = System.Windows.SystemParameters.VirtualScreenHeight;
        }
    }

    if (System.Windows.SystemParameters.VirtualScreenLeft < 0)
    {
        //Primary Monitor is on the Right
        if (absoluteScreenPos.X > 0)
        {
            //Primary monitor
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxWidth = System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Width;
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxHeight = System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Height;
        }
        else
        {
            //Secondary monitor
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxWidth = System.Windows.SystemParameters.VirtualScreenWidth - System.Windows.SystemParameters.WorkArea.Width;
            _receiver.WindowApplication.MaxHeight = System.Windows.SystemParameters.VirtualScreenHeight;
        }
    }

PHP: Convert any string to UTF-8 without knowing the original character set, or at least try

There is no way to identify the charset of a string that is completely accurate. There are ways to try to guess the charset. One of these ways, and probably/currently the best in PHP, is mb_detect_encoding(). This will scan your string and look for occurrences of stuff unique to certain charsets. Depending on your string, there may not be such distinguishable occurrences.

Take the ISO-8859-1 charset vs ISO-8859-15 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_8859-15#Changes_from_ISO-8859-1 )

There's only a handful of different characters, and to make it worse, they're represented by the same bytes. There is no way to detect, being given a string without knowing it's encoding, whether byte 0xA4 is supposed to signify ¤ or € in your string, so there is no way to know it's exact charset.

(Note: you could add a human factor, or an even more advanced scanning technique (e.g. what Oroboros102 suggests), to try to figure out based upon the surrounding context, if the character should be ¤ or €, though this seems like a bridge too far)

There are more distinguishable differences between e.g. UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1, so it's still worth trying to figure it out when you're unsure, though you can and should never rely on it being correct.

Interesting read: http://kore-nordmann.de/blog/php_charset_encoding_FAQ.html#how-do-i-determine-the-charset-encoding-of-a-string

There are other ways of ensuring the correct charset though. Concerning forms, try to enforce UTF-8 as much as possible (check out snowman to make sure yout submission will be UTF-8 in every browser: http://intertwingly.net/blog/2010/07/29/Rails-and-Snowmen ) That being done, at least you're can be sure that every text submitted through your forms is utf_8. Concerning uploaded files, try running the unix 'file -i' command on it through e.g. exec() (if possible on your server) to aid the detection (using the document's BOM.) Concerning scraping data, you could read the HTTP headers, that usually specify the charset. When parsing XML files, see if the XML meta-data contain a charset definition.

Rather than trying to automagically guess the charset, you should first try to ensure a certain charset yourself where possible, or trying to grab a definition from the source you're getting it from (if applicable) before resorting to detection.

Handling the null value from a resultset in JAVA

Since the column may be null in the database, the rs.getString() will throw a NullPointerException()

No.

rs.getString will not throw NullPointer if the column is present in the selected result set (SELECT query columns) For a particular record if value for the 'comumn is null in db, you must do something like this -

String myValue = rs.getString("myColumn");
if (rs.wasNull()) {
    myValue = ""; // set it to empty string as you desire.
}

You may want to refer to wasNull() documentation -

From java.sql.ResultSet
boolean wasNull() throws SQLException;

* Reports whether
* the last column read had a value of SQL
NULL
.
* Note that you must first call one of the getter methods
* on a column to try to read its value and then call
* the method
wasNull
to see if the value read was
* SQL
NULL
.
*
* @return
true
if the last column value read was SQL
*
NULL
and
false
otherwise
* @exception SQLException if a database access error occurs or this method is
* called on a closed result set

How To Raise Property Changed events on a Dependency Property?

I ran into a similar problem where I have a dependency property that I wanted the class to listen to change events to grab related data from a service.

public static readonly DependencyProperty CustomerProperty =
    DependencyProperty.Register("Customer", typeof(Customer),
        typeof(CustomerDetailView),
        new PropertyMetadata(OnCustomerChangedCallBack));

public Customer Customer {
    get { return (Customer)GetValue(CustomerProperty); }
    set { SetValue(CustomerProperty, value); }
}

private static void OnCustomerChangedCallBack(
        DependencyObject sender, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
{
    CustomerDetailView c = sender as CustomerDetailView;
    if (c != null) {
        c.OnCustomerChanged();
    }
}

protected virtual void OnCustomerChanged() {
    // Grab related data.
    // Raises INotifyPropertyChanged.PropertyChanged
    OnPropertyChanged("Customer");
}

How can I set the PATH variable for javac so I can manually compile my .java works?

Step 1: Set the PATH variable JAVA_HOME to the path of the JDK present on the system. Step 2: in the Path variable add the path of the C:\Program Files\Java\jdk(version)\bin

This should solve the problem. Happy coding!!

Could not insert new outlet connection: Could not find any information for the class named

I solved this problem by programmatically creating the Labels and Textfields, and then Command-Dragged from the little empty circles on the left of the code to the components on the Storyboard. To illustrate my point: I wrote @IBOutlet weak var HelloLabel: UILabel!, and then pressed Command and dragged the code into the component on the storyboard.

Reportviewer tool missing in visual studio 2017 RC

Please NOTE that this procedure of adding the reporting services described by @Rich Shealer above will be iterated every time you start a different project. In order to avoid that:

  1. If you may need to set up a different computer (eg, at home without internet), then keep your downloaded installers from the marketplace somewhere safe, ie:

    • Microsoft.DataTools.ReportingServices.vsix, and
    • Microsoft.RdlcDesigner.vsix
  2. Fetch the following libraries from the packages or bin folder of the application you have created with reporting services in it:

    • Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll
    • Microsoft.ReportViewer.DataVisualization.dll
    • Microsoft.ReportViewer.Design.dll
    • Microsoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel.dll
    • Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms.dll
  3. Install the 2 components from 1 above

  4. Add the dlls from 2 above as references (Project>References>Add...)
  5. (Optional) Add Reporting tab to the toolbar
  6. Add Items to Reporting tab
  7. Browse to the bin folder or where you have the above dlls and add them

You are now good to go! ReportViewer icon will be added to your toolbar, and you will also now find Report and ReportWizard templates added to your Common list of templates when you want to add a New Item... (Report) to your project

NB: When set up using Nuget package manager, the Report and ReportWizard templates are grouped under Reporting. Using my method described above however does not add the Reporting grouping in installed templates, but I dont think it is any trouble given that it enables you to quickly integrate rdlc without internet and without downloading what you already have from Nuget every time!

None of the answers address the point of this design choice. I think docker works this way to prevent these 2 errors:

  • Repeated restart
  • Partial error

Replace X-axis with own values

Not sure if it's what you mean, but you can do this:

plot(1:10, xaxt = "n", xlab='Some Letters')
axis(1, at=1:10, labels=letters[1:10])

which then gives you the graph:

Excel date to Unix timestamp

Here's my ultimate answer to this.

Also apparently javascript's new Date(year, month, day) constructor doesn't account for leap seconds too.

// Parses an Excel Date ("serial") into a
// corresponding javascript Date in UTC+0 timezone.
//
// Doesn't account for leap seconds.
// Therefore is not 100% correct.
// But will do, I guess, since we're
// not doing rocket science here.
//
// https://www.pcworld.com/article/3063622/software/mastering-excel-date-time-serial-numbers-networkdays-datevalue-and-more.html
// "If you need to calculate dates in your spreadsheets,
// Excel uses its own unique system, which it calls Serial Numbers".
//
lib.parseExcelDate = function (excelSerialDate) {
  // "Excel serial date" is just
  // the count of days since `01/01/1900`
  // (seems that it may be even fractional).
  //
  // The count of days elapsed
  // since `01/01/1900` (Excel epoch)
  // till `01/01/1970` (Unix epoch).
  // Accounts for leap years
  // (19 of them, yielding 19 extra days).
  const daysBeforeUnixEpoch = 70 * 365 + 19;

  // An hour, approximately, because a minute
  // may be longer than 60 seconds, see "leap seconds".
  const hour = 60 * 60 * 1000;

  // "In the 1900 system, the serial number 1 represents January 1, 1900, 12:00:00 a.m.
  // while the number 0 represents the fictitious date January 0, 1900".
  // These extra 12 hours are a hack to make things
  // a little bit less weird when rendering parsed dates.
  // E.g. if a date `Jan 1st, 2017` gets parsed as
  // `Jan 1st, 2017, 00:00 UTC` then when displayed in the US
  // it would show up as `Dec 31st, 2016, 19:00 UTC-05` (Austin, Texas).
  // That would be weird for a website user.
  // Therefore this extra 12-hour padding is added
  // to compensate for the most weird cases like this
  // (doesn't solve all of them, but most of them).
  // And if you ask what about -12/+12 border then
  // the answer is people there are already accustomed
  // to the weird time behaviour when their neighbours
  // may have completely different date than they do.
  //
  // `Math.round()` rounds all time fractions
  // smaller than a millisecond (e.g. nanoseconds)
  // but it's unlikely that an Excel serial date
  // is gonna contain even seconds.
  //
  return new Date(Math.round((excelSerialDate - daysBeforeUnixEpoch) * 24 * hour) + 12 * hour);
};

How to get UTC+0 date in Java 8?

I did this in my project and it works like a charm

System.out.println(now);

Access the css ":after" selector with jQuery

You can't manipulate :after, because it's not technically part of the DOM and therefore is inaccessible by any JavaScript. But you can add a new class with a new :after specified.

CSS:

.pageMenu .active.changed:after {
/* this selector is more specific, so it takes precedence over the other :after */
    border-top-width: 22px;
    border-left-width: 22px;
    border-right-width: 22px;
}

JS:

$('.pageMenu .active').toggleClass('changed');

UPDATE: while it's impossible to directly modify the :after content, there are ways to read and/or override it using JavaScript. See "Manipulating CSS pseudo-elements using jQuery (e.g. :before and :after)" for a comprehensive list of techniques.

How can I create a progress bar in Excel VBA?

About the progressbar control in a userform, it won't show any progress if you don't use the repaint event. You have to code this event inside the looping (and obviously increment the progressbar value).

Example of use:

userFormName.repaint

SQL Server NOLOCK and joins

I won't address the READ UNCOMMITTED argument, just your original question.

Yes, you need WITH(NOLOCK) on each table of the join. No, your queries are not the same.

Try this exercise. Begin a transaction and insert a row into table1 and table2. Don't commit or rollback the transaction yet. At this point your first query will return successfully and include the uncommitted rows; your second query won't return because table2 doesn't have the WITH(NOLOCK) hint on it.

How can I install an older version of a package via NuGet?

As of NuGet 2.8, there is a feature to downgrade a package.

NuGet 2.8 Release Notes

Example:

The following command entered into the Package Manager Console will downgrade the Couchbase client to version 1.3.1.0.

Update-Package CouchbaseNetClient -Version 1.3.1.0

Result:

Updating 'CouchbaseNetClient' from version '1.3.3' to '1.3.1.0' in project [project name].
Removing 'CouchbaseNetClient 1.3.3' from [project name].
Successfully removed 'CouchbaseNetClient 1.3.3' from [project name].

Something to note as per crimbo below:

This approach doesn't work for downgrading from one prerelease version to other prerelease version - it only works for downgrading to a release version

If "0" then leave the cell blank

You can change the number format of the column to this custom format:

0;-0;;@

which will hide all 0 values.

To do this, select the column, right-click > Format Cells > Custom.

How to debug PDO database queries?

this code works great for me :

echo str_replace(array_keys($data), array_values($data), $query->queryString);

Don't forget to replace $data and $query by your names

Can't update: no tracked branch

So after reading a bit on how git sets up the repo. I realized that I ran the command

git push origin master

but instead for the first time I should have ran

git push -u origin master

which sets up the upstream initially. Way to go!

Change a Rails application to production

How to setup and run a Rails 4 app in Production mode (step-by-step) using Apache and Phusion Passenger:

Normally you would be able to enter your Rails project, rails s, and get a development version of your app at http://something.com:3000. Production mode is a little trickier to configure.

I've been messing around with this for a while, so I figured I'd write this up for the newbies (such as myself). There are a few little tweaks which are spread throughout the internet and figured this might be easier.

  1. Refer to this guide for core setup of the server (CentOS 6, but it should apply to nearly all Linux flavors): https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-setup-a-rails-4-app-with-apache-and-passenger-on-centos-6

  2. Make absolute certain that after Passenger is set up you've edited the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file to reflect your directory structure. You want to point DocumentRoot to your Rails project /public folder Anywhere in the httpd.conf file that has this sort of dir: /var/www/html/your_application/public needs to be updated or everything will get very frustrating. I cannot stress this enough.

  3. Reboot the server (or Apache at the very least - service httpd restart )

  4. Enter your Rails project folder /var/www/html/your_application and start the migration with rake db:migrate. Make certain that a database table exists, even if you plan on adding tables later (this is also part of step 1).

  5. RAILS_ENV=production rake secret - this will create a secret_key that you can add to config/secrets.yml . You can copy/paste this into config/secrets.yml for the sake of getting things running, although I'd recommend you don't do this. Personally, I do this step to make sure everything else is working, then change it back and source it later.

  6. RAILS_ENV=production rake db:migrate

  7. RAILS_ENV=production rake assets:precompile if you are serving static assets. This will push js, css, image files into the /public folder.

  8. RAILS_ENV=production rails s

At this point your app should be available at http://something.com/whatever instead of :3000. If not, passenger-memory-stats and see if there an entry like 908 469.7 MB 90.9 MB Passenger RackApp: /var/www/html/projectname

I've probably missed something heinous, but this has worked for me in the past.

Is it possible to have a default parameter for a mysql stored procedure?

If you look into CREATE PROCEDURE Syntax for latest MySQL version you'll see that procedure parameter can only contain IN/OUT/INOUT specifier, parameter name and type.

So, default values are still unavailable in latest MySQL version.

How to detect duplicate values in PHP array?

I didn't find the answer I was looking for, so I wrote this function. This will make an array that contains only the duplicates between the two arrays, but not print the number of times an element is duplicated, so it's not directly answering the question, but I'm hoping it'll help someone in my situation.

function findDuplicates($array1,$array2)
{
    $combined = array_merge($array1,$array2);
    $counted = array_count_values($combined);
    $dupes = [];
    $keys = array_keys($counted);
    foreach ($keys as $key)
    {
        if ($counted[$key] > 1)
        {$dupes[] = $key;}
    }
    sort($dupes);
    return $dupes;
}
$array1 = [1,2,3,4,5];
$array2 = [4,5,6,7,8];
$dupes = findDuplicates($array1,$array2);
print_r($dupes);

Outputs:

Array
(
    [0] => 4
    [1] => 5
)

window.close and self.close do not close the window in Chrome

Many people are still trying to find a way to close the Chrome browser using javascript. The following method only works when you use Chrome as APP launcher - kiosk for example!

I have tested the following:

I'm using the following extension: Close Kiosk

I'm following the usage instructions and it seems to work just fine (make sure you clear the cache while doing the tests). The javascript I use is (attached to click event):

window.location.href = '/closekiosk';

I hope that helps somebody, as it's the only working solution I have found.

Note: It seems the extension runs in background and adds a Chrome tray icon. It has the following option checked: "Let Chrome run in background" (or similar text). You may need to play with it, until it work for you. I unchecked it and now it works just fine!

How to draw a circle with given X and Y coordinates as the middle spot of the circle?

So we are all doing the same home work?

Strange how the most up-voted answer is wrong. Remember, draw/fillOval take height and width as parameters, not the radius. So to correctly draw and center a circle with user-provided x, y, and radius values you would do something like this:

public static void drawCircle(Graphics g, int x, int y, int radius) {

  int diameter = radius * 2;

  //shift x and y by the radius of the circle in order to correctly center it
  g.fillOval(x - radius, y - radius, diameter, diameter);

}

How to print a float with 2 decimal places in Java?

      if (getValue.length() == 1) {
          return String.valueOf(value).split("[.]")[0] +
                "."+ getValue.substring(0, 1) +
                String.format("%0"+1+"d", 0);
       } else {
          return String.valueOf(value).split("[.]")[0]
            +"." + getValue.substring(0, 2);
      }

How to get item count from DynamoDB?

Replace the table name and use the below query to get the data on your local environment:

aws dynamodb scan --table-name <TABLE_NAME> --select "COUNT" --endpoint-url http://localhost:8000

Replace the table name and remove the endpoint url to get the data on production environment

Datatable to html Table

I have seen some solutions here worth noting, as Omer Eldan posted. but here follows. ASP C#

using System.Data;
using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;

public static Table DataTableToHTMLTable(DataTable dt, bool includeHeaders)
{
    Table tbl = new Table();
    TableRow tr = null;
    TableCell cell = null;

    int rows = dt.Rows.Count;
    int cols = dt.Columns.Count;

    if (includeHeaders)
    {
        TableHeaderRow htr = new TableHeaderRow();
        TableHeaderCell hcell = null;
        for (int i = 0; i < cols; i++)
        {
            hcell = new TableHeaderCell();
            hcell.Text = dt.Columns[i].ColumnName.ToString();
            htr.Cells.Add(hcell);
        }
        tbl.Rows.Add(htr);
    }

    for (int j = 0; j < rows; j++)
    {
        tr = new TableRow();
        for (int k = 0; k < cols; k++)
        {
            cell = new TableCell();
            cell.Text = dt.Rows[j][k].ToString();
            tr.Cells.Add(cell);
        }
        tbl.Rows.Add(tr);
    }
    return tbl;
}

why this solution? Because you can easily just add this to a panel ie:

panel.Controls.Add(DataTableToHTMLTable(dtExample,true));

Second question , why do you have one column datatables and not just array's? Are you sure that these DataTables are uniform, because if the data is jagged then it's no use. If You really have to join these DataTables, there is many examples of Linq operations, or just use (beware though of same name columns as this will conflict in both linq operations and this solution if not handled):

public DataTable joinUniformTable(DataTable dt1, DataTable dt2)
{
    int dt2ColsCount = dt2.Columns.Count;
    int dt1lRowsCount = dt1.Rows.Count;

    DataColumn column;
    for (int i = 0; i < dt2ColsCount; i++)
    {
        column = new DataColumn();
        string colName = dt2.Columns[i].ColumnName;
        System.Type colType = dt2.Columns[i].DataType;
        column.ColumnName = colName;
        column.DataType = colType;
        dt1.Columns.Add(column);

        for (int j = 0; j < dt1lRowsCount; j++)
        {
            dt1.Rows[j][colName] = dt2.Rows[j][colName];
        }
    }
    return dt1;
}

and your solution would look something like:

panel.Controls.Add(DataTableToHTMLTable(joinUniformTable(joinUniformTable(LivDT,BathDT),BedDT),true));

interpret the rest, and have fun.

Passing Arrays to Function in C++

firstarray and secondarray are converted to a pointer to int, when passed to printarray().

printarray(int arg[], ...) is equivalent to printarray(int *arg, ...)

However, this is not specific to C++. C has the same rules for passing array names to a function.

How do I get the computer name in .NET

I set the .InnerHtml of a
bracket for my web project to the user's computer name doing the following:

HTML:

Your Computer Name Is

           Learn more »

C#:

using System;
using System.Web.UI;

namespace GetPCName {
   public partial class _Default : Page {
    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
        pcname.InnerHtml = Environment.MachineName;
    }
   }

How to recompile with -fPIC

Briefly, the error means that you can't use a static library to be linked w/ a dynamic one. The correct way is to have a libavcodec compiled into a .so instead of .a, so the other .so library you are trying to build will link well.

The shortest way to do so is to add --enable-shared at ./configure options. Or even you may try to disable shared (or static) libraries at all... you choose what is suitable for you!

Invoking a static method using reflection

// String.class here is the parameter type, that might not be the case with you
Method method = clazz.getMethod("methodName", String.class);
Object o = method.invoke(null, "whatever");

In case the method is private use getDeclaredMethod() instead of getMethod(). And call setAccessible(true) on the method object.

How to call a JavaScript function, declared in
, in the body when I want to call it

I'm not sure what you mean by "myself".

Any JavaScript function can be called by an event, but you must have some sort of event to trigger it.

e.g. On page load:

Or on mouseover:

As a result the first question is, "What do you want to do to cause the function to execute?"

After you determine that it will be much easier to give you a direct answer.
