ComboBox- SelectionChanged event has old value, not new value

I solved this by using the DropDownClosed event because this fires slightly after the value is changed.

phpmyadmin "no data received to import" error, how to fix?

No data was received to import. Either no file name was submitted, or the file size exceeded the maximum size permitted by your PHP configuration. See FAQ 1.16.

These are my upload settings from php.ini
upload_tmp_dir = "D:\xampp\xampp\tmp"       ;//set these for temp file storing

; Maximum allowed size for uploaded files.
; http://php.net/upload-max-filesize
upload_max_filesize = 10M ;//change it according to max file upload size

I am sure your problem will be short out using this instructions.

 upload_tmp_dir = "D:\xampp\xampp\tmp"

Here you can set any directory that can hold temp file, I have installed in D: drive xampp so I set it "D:\xampp\xampp\tmp".

How to compare files from two different branches?

git diff can show you the difference between two commits:

git diff mybranch master -- myfile.cs

Or, equivalently:

git diff mybranch..master -- myfile.cs

Note you must specify the relative path to the file. So if the file were in the src directory, you'd say src/myfile.cs instead of myfile.cs.

Using the latter syntax, if either side is HEAD it may be omitted (e.g. master.. compares master to HEAD).

You may also be interested in mybranch...master (from git diff docs):

This form is to view the changes on the branch containing and up to the second <commit>, starting at a common ancestor of both <commit>. git diff A...B is equivalent to git diff $(git-merge-base A B) B.

In other words, this will give a diff of changes in master since it diverged from mybranch (but without new changes since then in mybranch).

In all cases, the -- separator before the file name indicates the end of command line flags. This is optional unless Git will get confused if the argument refers to a commit or a file, but including it is not a bad habit to get into. See https://stackoverflow.com/a/13321491/54249 for a few examples.

The same arguments can be passed to git difftool if you have one configured.

Using OpenGl with C#?

Concerning the (somewhat off topic I know but since it was brought up earlier) XNA vs OpenGL choice, it might be beneficial in several cases to go with OpenGL instead of XNA (and in other XNA instead of OpenGL...).

If you are going to run the applications on Linux or Mac using Mono, it might be a good choice to go with OpenGL. Also, which isn't so widely known I think, if you have customers that are going to run your applications in a Citrix environment, then DirectX/Direct3D/XNA won't be as economical a choice as OpenGL. The reason for this is that OpenGL applications can be co-hosted on a lesser number of servers (due to performance issues a single server cannot host an infinite number of application instances) than DirectX/XNA applications which demands dedicated virtual servers to run in hardware accelerated mode. Other requirements exists like supported graphics cards etc but I will keep to the XNA vs OpenGL issue. As an IT Architect, Software developer etc this will have to be considered before choosing between OpenGL and DirectX/XNA...

A side note is that WebGL is based on OpenGL ES3 afaik...

As a further note, these are not the only considerations, but they might make the choice easier for some...

Keeping ASP.NET Session Open / Alive

If you are using ASP.NET MVC – you do not need an additional HTTP handler and some modifications of the web.config file. All you need – just to add some simple action in a Home/Common controller:

[HttpPost]
public JsonResult KeepSessionAlive() {
    return new JsonResult {Data = "Success"};
}

, write a piece of JavaScript code like this one (I have put it in one of site’s JavaScript file):

var keepSessionAlive = false;
var keepSessionAliveUrl = null;

function SetupSessionUpdater(actionUrl) {
    keepSessionAliveUrl = actionUrl;
    var container = $("#body");
    container.mousemove(function () { keepSessionAlive = true; });
    container.keydown(function () { keepSessionAlive = true; });
    CheckToKeepSessionAlive();
}

function CheckToKeepSessionAlive() {
    setTimeout("KeepSessionAlive()", 5*60*1000);
}

function KeepSessionAlive() {
    if (keepSessionAlive && keepSessionAliveUrl != null) {
        $.ajax({
            type: "POST",
            url: keepSessionAliveUrl,
            success: function () { keepSessionAlive = false; }
        });
    }
    CheckToKeepSessionAlive();
}

, and initialize this functionality by calling a JavaScript function:

SetupSessionUpdater('/Home/KeepSessionAlive');

Please note! I have implemented this functionality only for authorized users (there is no reason to keep session state for guests in most cases) and decision to keep session state active is not only based on – is browser open or not, but authorized user must do some activity on the site (move a mouse or type some key).

How do I use IValidatableObject?

Quote from Jeff Handley's Blog Post on Validation Objects and Properties with Validator:

When validating an object, the following process is applied in Validator.ValidateObject:

  1. Validate property-level attributes
  2. If any validators are invalid, abort validation returning the failure(s)
  3. Validate the object-level attributes
  4. If any validators are invalid, abort validation returning the failure(s)
  5. If on the desktop framework and the object implements IValidatableObject, then call its Validate method and return any failure(s)

This indicates that what you are attempting to do won't work out-of-the-box because the validation will abort at step #2. You could try to create attributes that inherit from the built-in ones and specifically check for the presence of an enabled property (via an interface) before performing their normal validation. Alternatively, you could put all of the logic for validating the entity in the Validate method.

You also could take a look a the exact implemenation of Validator class here

is not JSON serializable

It's worth noting that the QuerySet.values_list() method doesn't actually return a list, but an object of type django.db.models.query.ValuesListQuerySet, in order to maintain Django's goal of lazy evaluation, i.e. the DB query required to generate the 'list' isn't actually performed until the object is evaluated.

Somewhat irritatingly, though, this object has a custom __repr__ method which makes it look like a list when printed out, so it's not always obvious that the object isn't really a list.

The exception in the question is caused by the fact that custom objects cannot be serialized in JSON, so you'll have to convert it to a list first, with...

my_list = list(self.get_queryset().values_list('code', flat=True))

...then you can convert it to JSON with...

json_data = json.dumps(my_list)

You'll also have to place the resulting JSON data in an HttpResponse object, which, apparently, should have a Content-Type of application/json, with...

response = HttpResponse(json_data, content_type='application/json')

...which you can then return from your function.

How do I make an attributed string using Swift?

I created an online tool that is going to solve your problem! You can write your string and apply styles graphically and the tool gives you objective-c and swift code to generate that string.

Also is open source so feel free to extend it and send PRs.

How to sort Counter by value? - python

Use the Counter.most_common() method, it'll sort the items for you:

>>> from collections import Counter
>>> x = Counter({'a':5, 'b':3, 'c':7})
>>> x.most_common()
[('c', 7), ('a', 5), ('b', 3)]

It'll do so in the most efficient manner possible; if you ask for a Top N instead of all values, a heapq is used instead of a straight sort:

>>> x.most_common(1)
[('c', 7)]

Outside of counters, sorting can always be adjusted based on a key function; .sort() and sorted() both take callable that lets you specify a value on which to sort the input sequence; sorted(x, key=x.get, reverse=True) would give you the same sorting as x.most_common(), but only return the keys, for example:

>>> sorted(x, key=x.get, reverse=True)
['c', 'a', 'b']

or you can sort on only the value given (key, value) pairs:

>>> sorted(x.items(), key=lambda pair: pair[1], reverse=True)
[('c', 7), ('a', 5), ('b', 3)]

See the Python sorting howto for more information.

Calling a Function defined inside another function in Javascript

You could make it into a module and expose your inner function by returning it in an Object.

function outer() {
    function inner() {
        console.log("hi");
    }
    return {
        inner: inner
    };
}
var foo = outer();
foo.inner();

Browse for a directory in C#

Note: there is no guarantee this code will work in future versions of the .Net framework. Using private .Net framework internals as done here through reflection is probably not good overall. Use the interop solution mentioned at the bottom, as the Windows API is less likely to change.

If you are looking for a Folder picker that looks more like the Windows 7 dialog, with the ability to copy and paste from a textbox at the bottom and the navigation pane on the left with favorites and common locations, then you can get access to that in a very lightweight way.

The FolderBrowserDialog UI is very minimal:

enter image description here

But you can have this instead:

enter image description here

Here's a class that opens a Vista-style folder picker using the .Net private IFileDialog interface, without directly using interop in the code (.Net takes care of that for you). It falls back to the pre-Vista dialog if not in a high enough Windows version. Should work in Windows 7, 8, 9, 10 and higher (theoretically).

I developed this as a cleaned up version of .NET Win 7-style folder select dialog by Bill Seddon of lyquidity.com (I have no affiliation). I wrote my own because his solution requires an additional Reflection class that isn't needed for this focused purpose, uses exception-based flow control, doesn't cache the results of its reflection calls. Note that the nested static VistaDialog class is so that its static reflection variables don't try to get populated if the Show method is never called.

It is used like so in a Windows Form:

var dialog = new FolderSelectDialog {
    InitialDirectory = musicFolderTextBox.Text,
    Title = "Select a folder to import music from"
};
if (dialog.Show(Handle)) {
    musicFolderTextBox.Text = dialog.FileName;
}

You can of course play around with its options and what properties it exposes. For example, it allows multiselect in the Vista-style dialog.

Also, please note that Simon Mourier gave an answer that shows how to do the exact same job using interop against the Windows API directly, though his version would have to be supplemented to use the older style dialog if in an older version of Windows. Unfortunately, I hadn't found his post yet when I worked up my solution. Name your poison!

Using CSS td width absolute, position

Wrap content from first cell in div e.g. like that:

How to have image and text side by side

You're already doing it correctly, it just that the <h4>Facebook</h4> tag is taking too much vertical margin. You can remove it by using the style margin:0px on the <h4> tag.

For your future convenience, you can put border (border:1px solid black) on your elements to see which part you actually get it wrong.

How to extend / inherit components?

You can inherit @Input, @Output, @ViewChild, etc. Look at the sample:

@Component({
    template: ''
})
export class BaseComponent {
    @Input() someInput: any = 'something';

    @Output() someOutput: EventEmitter<void> = new EventEmitter<void>();

}

@Component({
    selector: 'app-derived',
    template: '<div (click)="someOutput.emit()">{{someInput}}</div>',
    providers: [
        { provide: BaseComponent, useExisting: DerivedComponent }
    ]
})
export class DerivedComponent {

Search in lists of lists by given index

What about:

list =[ ['a','b'], ['a','c'], ['b','d'] ]
search = 'b'

filter(lambda x:x[1]==search,list)

This will return each list in the list of lists with the second element being equal to search.

Get ASCII value at input word

char ch='A';

System.out.println((int)ch);

Is there a way to specify which pytest tests to run from a file?

Here's a possible partial answer, because it only allows selecting the test scripts, not individual tests within those scripts.

And it also limited by my using legacy compatibility mode vs unittest scripts, so not guaranteeing it would work with native pytest.

Here goes:

  1. create a new dictory, say subset_tests_directory.
  2. ln -s tests_directory/foo.py
  3. ln -s tests_directory/bar.py

  4. be careful about imports which implicitly assume files are in test_directory. I had to fix several of those by running python foo.py, from within subset_tests_directory and correcting as needed.

  5. Once the test scripts execute correctly, just cd subset_tests_directory and pytest there. Pytest will only pick up the scripts it sees.

Another possibility is symlinking within your current test directory, say as ln -s foo.py subset_foo.py then pytest subset*.py. That would avoid needing to adjust your imports, but it would clutter things up until you removed the symlinks. Worked for me as well.

How to change the Push and Pop animations in a navigation based app

Here is how I have done the same in Swift:

For Push:

    UIView.animateWithDuration(0.75, animations: { () -> Void in
        UIView.setAnimationCurve(UIViewAnimationCurve.EaseInOut)
        self.navigationController!.pushViewController(nextView, animated: false)
        UIView.setAnimationTransition(UIViewAnimationTransition.FlipFromRight, forView: self.navigationController!.view!, cache: false)
    })

For Pop:

I actually did this a little differently to some of the responses above - but as I am new to Swift development, it might not be right. I have overridden viewWillDisappear:animated: and added the pop code in there:

    UIView.animateWithDuration(0.75, animations: { () -> Void in
        UIView.setAnimationCurve(UIViewAnimationCurve.EaseInOut)
        UIView.setAnimationTransition(UIViewAnimationTransition.FlipFromLeft, forView: self.navigationController!.view, cache: false)
    })

    super.viewWillDisappear(animated)

How to match hyphens with Regular Expression?

It’s less confusing to always use an escaped hyphen, so that it doesn't have to be positionally dependent. That’s a \- inside the bracketed character class.

But there’s something else to consider. Some of those enumerated characters should possibly be written differently. In some circumstances, they definitely should.

This comparison of regex flavors says that C? can use some of the simpler Unicode properties. If you’re dealing with Unicode, you should probably use the general category \p{L} for all possible letters, and maybe \p{Nd} for decimal numbers. Also, if you want to accomodate all that dash punctuation, not just HYPHEN-MINUS, you should use the \p{Pd} property. You might also want to write that sequence of whitespace characters simply as \s, assuming that’s not too general for you.

All together, that works out to apattern of [\p{L}\p{Nd}\p{Pd}!$*] to match any one character from that set.

I’d likely use that anyway, even if I didn’t plan on dealing with the full Unicode set, because it’s a good habit to get into, and because these things often grow beyond their original parameters. Now when you lift it to use in other code, it will still work correctly. If you hard-code all the characters, it won’t.

Listen for key press in .NET console app

If you are using Visual Studio, then you can use "Start Without Debugging" in the Debug menu.

It will automatically write "Press any key to continue . . ." to the console for you upon completion of the application and it will leave the console open for you until a key is pressed.

How to insert programmatically a new line in an Excel cell in C#?

You need to insert the character code that Excel uses, which IIRC is 10 (ten).

EDIT: OK, here's some code. Note that I was able to confirm that the character-code used is indeed 10, by creating a cell containing:

A

B

...and then selecting it and executing this in the VBA immediate window:

?Asc(Mid(Activecell.Value,2,1))

So, the code you need to insert that value into another cell in VBA would be:

ActiveCell.Value = "A" & vbLf & "B"

(since vbLf is character code 10).

I know you're using C# but I find it's much easier to figure out what to do if you first do it in VBA, since you can try it out "interactively" without having to compile anything. Whatever you do in C# is just replicating what you do in VBA so there's rarely any difference. (Remember that the C# interop stuff is just using the same underlying COM libraries as VBA).

Anyway, the C# for this would be:

oCell.Value = "A\nB";

Spot the difference :-)

EDIT 2: Aaaargh! I just re-read the post and saw that you're using the Aspose library. Sorry, in that case I've no idea.

Inconsistent accessibility: property type is less accessible

Your class Delivery has no access modifier, which means it defaults to internal. If you then try to expose a property of that type as public, it won't work. Your type (class) needs to have the same, or higher access as your property.

More about access modifiers: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173121.aspx

pandas read_csv and filter columns with usecols

You have to just add the index_col=False parameter

df1 = pd.read_csv('foo.csv',
     header=0,
     index_col=False,
     names=["dummy", "date", "loc", "x"],
     usecols=["dummy", "date", "loc", "x"],
     parse_dates=["date"])
  print df1

What is the Swift equivalent of respondsToSelector?

Update Mar 20, 2017 for Swift 3 syntax:

If you don't care whether the optional method exists, just call delegate?.optionalMethod?()

Otherwise, using guard is probably the best approach:

weak var delegate: SomeDelegateWithOptionals?

func someMethod() {
    guard let method = delegate?.optionalMethod else {
        // optional not implemented
        alternativeMethod()
        return
    }
    method()
}

Original answer:

You can use the "if let" approach to test an optional protocol like this:

weak var delegate: SomeDelegateWithOptionals?

func someMethod() {
  if let delegate = delegate {
    if let theMethod = delegate.theOptionalProtocolMethod? {
      theMethod()
      return
    }
  }
  // Reaching here means the delegate doesn't exist or doesn't respond to the optional method
  alternativeMethod()
}

How to create many labels and textboxes dynamically depending on the value of an integer variable?

Suppose you have a button that when pressed sets n to 5, you could then generate labels and textboxes on your form like so.

var n = 5;
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++)
{
    //Create label
    Label label = new Label();
    label.Text = String.Format("Label {0}", i);
    //Position label on screen
    label.Left = 10;
    label.Top = (i + 1) * 20;
    //Create textbox
    TextBox textBox = new TextBox();
    //Position textbox on screen
    textBox.Left = 120;
    textBox.Top = (i + 1) * 20;
    //Add controls to form
    this.Controls.Add(label);
    this.Controls.Add(textBox);
}

This will not only add them to the form but position them decently as well.

Creating Unicode character from its number

Unfortunatelly, to remove one backlash as mentioned in first comment (newbiedoodle) don't lead to good result. Most (if not all) IDE issues syntax error. The reason is in this, that Java Escaped Unicode format expects syntax "\uXXXX", where XXXX are 4 hexadecimal digits, which are mandatory. Attempts to fold this string from pieces fails. Of course, "\u" is not the same as "\\u". The first syntax means escaped 'u', second means escaped backlash (which is backlash) followed by 'u'. It is strange, that on the Apache pages is presented utility, which doing exactly this behavior. But in reality, it is Escape mimic utility. Apache has some its own utilities (i didn't testet them), which do this work for you. May be, it is still not that, what you want to have. Apache Escape Unicode utilities But this utility 1 have good approach to the solution. With combination described above (MeraNaamJoker). My solution is create this Escaped mimic string and then convert it back to unicode (to avoid real Escaped Unicode restriction). I used it for copying text, so it is possible, that in uencode method will be better to use '\\u' except '\\\\u'. Try it.

      returnStr = "000" + Integer.toHexString(ch);
    }
    else if (ch < 0x100) {
      returnStr = "00" + Integer.toHexString(ch);
    }
    else if (ch < 0x1000) {
      returnStr = "0" + Integer.toHexString(ch);
    }
    else
      returnStr = "" + Integer.toHexString(ch);

    return charEsc + returnStr;
  }

Get domain name from given url

All the above are good. This one seems really simple to me and easy to understand. Excuse the quotes. I wrote it for Groovy inside a class called DataCenter.

static String extractDomainName(String url) {
    int start = url.indexOf('://')
    if (start < 0) {
        start = 0
    } else {
        start += 3
    }
    int end = url.indexOf('/', start)
    if (end < 0) {
        end = url.length()
    }
    String domainName = url.substring(start, end)

    int port = domainName.indexOf(':')
    if (port >= 0) {
        domainName = domainName.substring(0, port)
    }
    domainName
}

And here are some junit4 tests:

@Test
void shouldFindDomainName() {
    assert DataCenter.extractDomainName('http://example.com/path/') == 'example.com'
    assert DataCenter.extractDomainName('http://subpart.example.com/path/') == 'subpart.example.com'

    assert DataCenter.extractDomainName('example.com/path/') == 'example.com'
    assert DataCenter.extractDomainName('example.com') == 'example.com'

May be :input selector is what you want

$("form").each(function(){ $(':input', this)//<-- Should return all input elements in that specific form. });

As pointed out in docs

To achieve the best performance when using :input to select elements, first select the elements using a pure CSS selector, then use .filter(":input").

You can use like below,

$("form").each(function(){
    $(this).filter(':input') //<-- Should return all input elements in that specific form.
});

Is it possible to set async:false to $.getJSON call

Both answers are wrong. You can. You need to call

$.ajaxSetup({
async: false
});

before your json ajax call. And you can set it to true after call retuns ( if there are other usages of ajax on page if you want them async )

Installing Python 3 on RHEL

I was having the same issue using the python 2.7. Follow the below steps to upgrade successfully to 3.6. You can also try this one-

  1. See before upgrading version is 2.x

    python --version
    Python 2.7.5

  2. Use below command to upgrade your python to 3.x version-

    yum install python3x

    replace x with the version number you want.

    i.e. for installing python 3.6 execute

    yum install python36

  3. After that if you want to set this python for your default version then in bashrc file add

    vi ~/.bashrc

    alias python='python3.6'

  4. execute bash command to apply the settings

    bash

  5. Now you can see the version below

    python --version
    Python 3.6.3

How to fix the datetime2 out-of-range conversion error using DbContext and SetInitializer?

Simple. On your code first, set the type of DateTime to DateTime?. So you can work with nullable DateTime type in database. Entity example:

public class Alarme
    {
        [Key]
        [DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)]
        public int Id { get; set; }

        public DateTime? DataDisparado { get; set; }//.This allow you to work with nullable datetime in database.
        public DateTime? DataResolvido { get; set; }//.This allow you to work with nullable datetime in database.
        public long Latencia { get; set; }

        public bool Resolvido { get; set; }

        public int SensorId { get; set; }
        [ForeignKey("SensorId")]
        public virtual Sensor Sensor { get; set; }
    }

Android Studio and Gradle build error

Similar to @joe_deniable 's answer the thing I found with my own projects was that gradle would output that kind of error when there was a misconfiguration of my system.

I discovered that by running gradlew installDebug or similar command from the terminal I got better output as to what the real problem was.

e.g. initially it turns out my JAVA_HOME was not setup correctly. Then I discovered it encountered errors because I didn't have a package space setup correctly. Etc.

How do you create different variable names while in a loop?

Sure you can; it's called a dictionary:

d = {}
for x in range(1, 10):
    d["string{0}".format(x)] = "Hello"
>>> d["string5"]
'Hello'
>>> d
{'string1': 'Hello',
 'string2': 'Hello',
 'string3': 'Hello',
 'string4': 'Hello',
 'string5': 'Hello',
 'string6': 'Hello',
 'string7': 'Hello',
 'string8': 'Hello',
 'string9': 'Hello'}

I said this somewhat tongue in check, but really the best way to associate one value with another value is a dictionary. That is what it was designed for!

Create a CSS rule / class with jQuery at runtime

Maybe you can put the style information in a separate class in your css file, e.g.:

.specificstyle {
    position: fixed;
    z-index: 102;
    display:none;
    top:50%;
    left:50%;
}

and then use jQuery at the point of your choosing to add this classname to the element?

.net Core 2.0 - Package was restored using .NetFramework 4.6.1 instead of target framework .netCore 2.0. The package may not be fully compatible

For me, I had ~6 different Nuget packages to update and when I selected Microsoft.AspNetCore.All first, I got the referenced error.

I started at the bottom and updated others first (EF Core, EF Design Tools, etc), then when the only one that was left was Microsoft.AspNetCore.All it worked fine.

What is the string concatenation operator in Oracle?

Using CONCAT(CONCAT(,),) worked for me when concatenating more than two strings.

My problem required working with date strings (only) and creating YYYYMMDD from YYYY-MM-DD as follows (i.e. without converting to date format):

CONCAT(CONCAT(SUBSTR(DATECOL,1,4),SUBSTR(DATECOL,6,2)),SUBSTR(DATECOL,9,2)) AS YYYYMMDD

ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred

Beside the oci.dll there are a few .jar files. This gave me the idea to install Java. Then everything worked.

How to escape % in String.Format?

Here's an option if you need to escape multiple %'s in a string with some already escaped.

(?:[^%]|^)(?:(%%)+|)(%)(?:[^%])

To sanitise the message before passing it to String.format, you can use the following

Pattern p = Pattern.compile("(?:[^%]|^)(?:(%%)+|)(%)(?:[^%])");
Matcher m1 = p.matcher(log);

StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer();
while (m1.find())
    m1.appendReplacement(buf, log.substring(m1.start(), m1.start(2)) + "%%" + log.substring(m1.end(2), m1.end()));

// Return the sanitised message
String escapedString = m1.appendTail(buf).toString();

This works with any number of formatting characters, so it will replace % with %%, %%% with %%%%, %%%%% with %%%%%% etc.

It will leave any already escaped characters alone (e.g. %%, %%%% etc.)

Running ASP.Net on a Linux based server

You might want to consider this guide that helps Windows developers port their code to Mono/Linux:

Guide: Porting ASP.NET Applications - Mono

SQL JOIN - WHERE clause vs. ON clause

for better performance tables should have a special indexed column to use for JOINS .

so if the column you condition on is not one of those indexed columns then i suspect it is better to keep it in WHERE .

so you JOIN using the indexed columns, then after JOIN you run the condition on the none indexed column .

Convert DateTime to a specified Format

Easy peasy:

var date = DateTime.Parse("14/11/2011"); // may need some Culture help here
Console.Write(date.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd"));

Take a look at DateTime.ToString() method, Custom Date and Time Format Strings and Standard Date and Time Format Strings

string customFormattedDateTimeString = DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd");

PHPExcel - set cell type before writing a value in it

For Numbers with leading zeroes and comma separated:

You can put 'A' to affect the entire column'.

$objPHPExcel->getActiveSheet()->getStyle('A1')->getNumberFormat()->setFormatCode(PHPExcel_Style_NumberFormat::FORMAT_NUMBER_COMMA_SEPARATED1);

Then you can write to the cell as you normally would.

what is the basic difference between stack and queue?

A Visual Model

Pancake Stack (LIFO)

The only way to add one and/or remove one is from the top.

pancake stack

Line Queue (FIFO)

When one arrives they arrive at the end of the queue and when one leaves they leave from the front of the queue.

dmv line

Fun fact: the British refer to lines of people as a Queue

Why shouldn't I use mysql_* functions in PHP?

Because (amongst other reasons) it's much harder to ensure the input data is sanitized. If you use parametrized queries, as one does with PDO or mysqli you can entirely avoid the risk.

As an example, someone could use "enhzflep); drop table users" as a username. The old functions will allow executing multiple statements per query, so something like that nasty bugger can delete a whole table.

If one were to use PDO of mysqli, the user-name would end-up being "enhzflep); drop table users".

See bobby-tables.com.

Converting Varchar Value to Integer/Decimal Value in SQL Server

You are getting arithmetic overflow. this means you are trying to make a conversion impossible to be made. This error is thrown when you try to make a conversion and the destiny data type is not enough to convert the origin data. For example:

If you try to convert 100.52 to decimal(4,2) you will get this error. The number 100.52 requires 5 positions and 2 of them are decimal.

Try to change the decimal precision to something like 16,2 or higher. Try with few records first then use it to all your select.

Format number to 2 decimal places

Just use format(number, qtyDecimals) sample: format(1000, 2) result 1000.00

Where is the syntax for TypeScript comments documented?

Future

The TypeScript team, and other TypeScript involved teams, plan to create a standard formal TSDoc specification. The 1.0.0 draft hasn't been finalised yet: https://github.com/Microsoft/tsdoc#where-are-we-on-the-roadmap

enter image description here

Current

TypeScript uses JSDoc. e.g.

/** This is a description of the foo function. */
function foo() {
}

To learn jsdoc : https://jsdoc.app/

Demo

But you don't need to use the type annotation extensions in JSDoc.

You can (and should) still use other jsdoc block tags like @returns etc.

Example

Just an example. Focus on the types (not the content).

JSDoc version (notice types in docs):

/**
 * Returns the sum of a and b
 * @param {number} a
 * @param {number} b
 * @returns {number}
 */
function sum(a, b) {
    return a + b;
}

TypeScript version (notice the re-location of types):

/**
 * Takes two numbers and returns their sum
 * @param a first input to sum
 * @param b second input to sum
 * @returns sum of a and b
 */
function sum(a: number, b: number): number {
    return a + b;
}

Absolute vs relative URLs

In general, it is considered best-practice to use relative URLs, so that your website will not be bound to the base URL of where it is currently deployed. For example, it will be able to work on localhost, as well as on your public domain, without modifications.

How to check whether an array is empty using PHP?

I think the best way to determine if the array is empty or not is to use count() like so:

if(count($array)) {
    return 'anything true goes here';
}else {
    return 'anything false';
}

  1. Run the redis-server using a sudo will remove the server starting error

shell% sudo redis-server

  1. For running it as a service "daemonize" it will allow you to run in the background

Abstract variables in Java?

Define a constructor in the abstract class which sets the field so that the concrete implementations are per the specification required to call/override the constructor.

E.g.

public abstract class AbstractTable {
    protected String name;

    public AbstractTable(String name) {
        this.name = name;
    }
}

When you extend AbstractTable, the class won't compile until you add a constructor which calls super("somename").

public class ConcreteTable extends AbstractTable {
    private static final String NAME = "concreteTable";

    public ConcreteTable() {
        super(NAME);
    }
}

This way the implementors are required to set name. This way you can also do (null)checks in the constructor of the abstract class to make it more robust. E.g:

public AbstractTable(String name) {
    if (name == null) throw new NullPointerException("Name may not be null");
    this.name = name;
}

Displaying a Table in Django from Database

The easiest way is to use a for loop template tag.

Given the view:

def MyView(request):
    ...
    query_results = YourModel.objects.all()
    ...
    #return a response to your template and add query_results to the context

You can add a snippet like this your template...

<table>
    <tr>
        <th>Field 1</th>
        ...
        <th>Field N</th>
    </tr>
    {% for item in query_results %}
    <tr>
        <td>{{ item.field1 }}</td>
        ...
        <td>{{ item.fieldN }}</td>
    </tr>
    {% endfor %}
</table>

This is all covered in Part 3 of the Django tutorial. And here's Part 1 if you need to start there.

How do I get PHP errors to display?

Some web hosting providers allow you to change PHP parameters in the .htaccess file.

You can add the following line:

How to convert an OrderedDict into a regular dict in python3

It is easy to convert your OrderedDict to a regular Dict like this:

dict(OrderedDict([('method', 'constant'), ('data', '1.225')]))

If you have to store it as a string in your database, using JSON is the way to go. That is also quite simple, and you don't even have to worry about converting to a regular dict:

import json
d = OrderedDict([('method', 'constant'), ('data', '1.225')])
dString = json.dumps(d)

Or dump the data directly to a file:

with open('outFile.txt','w') as o:
    json.dump(d, o)

Is there a keyboard shortcut (hotkey) to open Terminal in macOS?

Can I load a .NET assembly at runtime and instantiate a type knowing only the name?

I found this question and some answers very useful, however I did have path problems, so this answer would cover loading library by finding bin directory path.

First solution:

string assemblyName = "library.dll";
string assemblyPath = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/bin/" + assemblyName);
Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFrom(assemblyPath);
Type T = assembly.GetType("Company.Project.Classname");
Company.Project.Classname instance = (Company.Project.Classname) Activator.CreateInstance(T);

Second solution

string assemblyName = "library.dll";
string assemblyPath = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/bin/" + assemblyName);
Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFile(assemblyPath);
(Company.Project.Classname) instance = (Company.Project.Classname) assembly.CreateInstance("Company.Project.Classname");

You can use same principle for interfaces (you would be creating a class but casting to interface), such as:

(Company.Project.Interfacename) instance = (Company.Project.Interfacename) assembly.CreateInstance("Company.Project.Classname");

This example is for web application but similar could be used for Desktop application, only path is resolved in different way, for example

Path.GetDirectoryName(Application.ExecutablePath)

fatal: Not a valid object name: 'master'

First off, when you create a "bare repository", you're not going to be doing any work with it (it doesn't contain a working copy, so the git branch command is not useful).

Now, the reason you wouldn't have a master branch even after doing a git init is that there are no commits: when you create your first commit, you will then have a master branch.

M_PI works with math.h but not with cmath in Visual Studio

This works for me:

#define _USE_MATH_DEFINES
#include <cmath>
#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main()
{
    cout << M_PI << endl;

    return 0;
}

Compiles and prints pi like is should: cl /O2 main.cpp /link /out:test.exe.

There must be a mismatch in the code you have posted and the one you're trying to compile.

Be sure there are no precompiled headers being pulled in before your #define.

"Uncaught (in promise) undefined" error when using with=location in Facebook Graph API query

The reject actually takes one parameter: that's the exception that occurred in your code that caused the promise to be rejected. So, when you call reject() the exception value is undefined, hence the "undefined" part in the error that you get.

You do not show the code that uses the promise, but I reckon it is something like this:

var promise = doSth();
promise.then(function() { doSthHere(); });

Try adding an empty failure call, like this:

promise.then(function() { doSthHere(); }, function() {});

This will prevent the error to appear.

However, I would consider calling reject only in case of an actual error, and also... having empty exception handlers isn't the best programming practice.

VBScript - How to make program wait until process has finished?

You need to tell the run to wait until the process is finished. Something like:

const DontWaitUntilFinished = false, ShowWindow = 1, DontShowWindow = 0, WaitUntilFinished = true
set oShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
command = "cmd /c C:\windows\system32\wscript.exe <path>\myScript.vbs " & args
oShell.Run command, DontShowWindow, WaitUntilFinished

In the script itself, start Excel like so. While debugging start visible:

File = "c:\test\myfile.xls"
oShell.run """C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE"" " & File, 1, true

Android Open External Storage directory(sdcard) for storing file

yes, it may work in KITKAT.

above KITKAT+ it will go to internal storage:paths like(storage/emulated/0).

please think, how "Xender app" give permission to write in to external sd card.

So, Fortunately in Android 5.0 and later there is a new official way for apps to write to the external SD card. Apps must ask the user to grant write access to a folder on the SD card. They open a system folder chooser dialog. The user need to navigate into that specific folder and select it.

for more details, please refer https://metactrl.com/docs/sdcard-on-lollipop/

How to unescape HTML character entities in Java?

The most reliable way is with

String cleanedString = StringEscapeUtils.unescapeHtml4(originalString);

from org.apache.commons.lang3.StringEscapeUtils.

And to escape the whitespaces

cleanedString = cleanedString.trim();

This will ensure that whitespaces due to copy and paste in web forms to not get persisted in DB.

Ruby value of a hash key?

This question seems to be ambiguous.

I'll try with my interpretation of the request.

def do_something(data)
   puts "Found! #{data}"
end

a = { 'x' => 'test', 'y' => 'foo', 'z' => 'bar' }
a.each { |key,value| do_something(value) if key == 'x' }

This will loop over all the key,value pairs and do something only if the key is 'x'.

How to hide the title bar for an Activity in XML with existing custom theme

I now did the following.

I declared a style inheriting everything from my general style and then disabling the titleBar.

<style name="generalnotitle" parent="general">
    <item name="android:windowNoTitle">true</item>
</style>

Now I can set this style to every Activity in which I want to hide the title bar overwriting the application wide style and inheriting all the other style informations, therefor no duplication in the style code.

To apply the style to a particular Activity, open AndroidManifest.xml and add the following attribute to the activity tag;

<activity
    android:theme="@style/generalnotitle">

Failed to build gem native extension — Rails install

mkmf is part of the ruby1.9.1-dev package. This package contains the header files needed for extension libraries for Ruby 1.9.1. You need to install the ruby1.9.1-dev package by doing:

sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.1-dev

Then you can install Rails as per normal.

Generally it's easier to just do:

How do I print the type or class of a variable in Swift?

SWIFT 5

With the latest release of Swift 3 we can get pretty descriptions of type names through the String initializer. Like, for example print(String(describing: type(of: object))). Where object can be an instance variable like array, a dictionary, an Int, a NSDate, an instance of a custom class, etc.

Here is my complete answer: Get class name of object as string in Swift

That question is looking for a way to getting the class name of an object as string but, also i proposed another way to getting the class name of a variable that isn't subclass of NSObject. Here it is:

class Utility{
    class func classNameAsString(obj: Any) -> String {
        //prints more readable results for dictionaries, arrays, Int, etc
        return String(describing: type(of: obj))
    }
}

I made a static function which takes as parameter an object of type Any and returns its class name as String :) .

I tested this function with some variables like:

    let diccionary: [String: CGFloat] = [:]
    let array: [Int] = []
    let numInt = 9
    let numFloat: CGFloat = 3.0
    let numDouble: Double = 1.0
    let classOne = ClassOne()
    let classTwo: ClassTwo? = ClassTwo()
    let now = NSDate()
    let lbl = UILabel()

and the output was:

  • diccionary is of type Dictionary
  • array is of type Array
  • numInt is of type Int
  • numFloat is of type CGFloat
  • numDouble is of type Double
  • classOne is of type: ClassOne
  • classTwo is of type: ClassTwo
  • now is of type: Date
  • lbl is of type: UILabel

Can anybody tell me details about hs_err_pid.log file generated when Tomcat crashes?

A very very good document regarding this topic is Troubleshooting Guide for Java from (originally) Sun. See the chapter "Troubleshooting System Crashes" for information about hs_err_pid* Files.

See Appendix C - Fatal Error Log

Per the guide, by default the file will be created in the working directory of the process if possible, or in the system temporary directory otherwise. A specific location can be chosen by passing in the -XX:ErrorFile product flag. It says:

If the -XX:ErrorFile= file flag is not specified, the system attempts to create the file in the working directory of the process. In the event that the file cannot be created in the working directory (insufficient space, permission problem, or other issue), the file is created in the temporary directory for the operating system.

Easy way to print Perl array? (with a little formatting)

I've not tried to run below, though. I think this's a tricky way.

map{print $_;} @array;

Using Mockito to mock classes with generic parameters

One other way around this is to use @Mock annotation instead. Doesn't work in all cases, but looks much sexier :)

Here's an example:

@RunWith(MockitoJUnitRunner.class)
public class FooTests {

    @Mock
    public Foo<Bar> fooMock;

    @Test
    public void testFoo() {
        when(fooMock.getValue()).thenReturn(new Bar());
    }
}

The MockitoJUnitRunner initializes the fields annotated with @Mock.

  </c:when>
  <c:otherwise>

Detecting user leaving page with react-router

For react-router v0.13.x with react v0.13.x:

this is possible with the willTransitionTo() and willTransitionFrom() static methods. For newer versions, see my other answer below.

From the react-router documentation:

You can define some static methods on your route handlers that will be called during route transitions.

willTransitionTo(transition, params, query, callback)

Called when a handler is about to render, giving you the opportunity to abort or redirect the transition. You can pause the transition while you do some asynchonous work and call callback(error) when you're done, or omit the callback in your argument list and it will be called for you.

willTransitionFrom(transition, component, callback)

Called when an active route is being transitioned out giving you an opportunity to abort the transition. The component is the current component, you'll probably need it to check its state to decide if you want to allow the transition (like form fields).

Example

  var Settings = React.createClass({
    statics: {
      willTransitionTo: function (transition, params, query, callback) {
        auth.isLoggedIn((isLoggedIn) => {
          transition.abort();
          callback();
        });
      },

      willTransitionFrom: function (transition, component) {
        if (component.formHasUnsavedData()) {
          if (!confirm('You have unsaved information,'+
                       'are you sure you want to leave this page?')) {
            transition.abort();
          }
        }
      }
    }

    //...
  });

For react-router 1.0.0-rc1 with react v0.14.x or later:

this should be possible with the routerWillLeave lifecycle hook. For older versions, see my answer above.

From the react-router documentation:

To install this hook, use the Lifecycle mixin in one of your route components.

  import { Lifecycle } from 'react-router'

  const Home = React.createClass({

    // Assuming Home is a route component, it may use the
    // Lifecycle mixin to get a routerWillLeave method.
    mixins: [ Lifecycle ],

    routerWillLeave(nextLocation) {
      if (!this.state.isSaved)
        return 'Your work is not saved! Are you sure you want to leave?'
    },

    // ...

  })

Things. may change before the final release though.

How to remove backslash on json_encode() function?

Since PHP 5.4 there are constants which can be used by json_encode() to format the json reponse how you want.

To remove backslashes use: JSON_UNESCAPED_SLASHES. Like so:

json_encode($response, JSON_UNESCAPED_SLASHES);

View the PHP documentation for more constants and further information:

http://php.net/manual/en/function.json-encode.php

    return readdirAsync(directory).map(function(file) {
        file = path.join(directory, file);
        return statAsync(file).then(function(stat) {
            if (stat.isFile()) {
                return results.push(file);
            }
            return walkFiles(file).then(function(filesInDir) {
                results = results.concat(filesInDir);
            });
        });
    }).then(function() {
        return results;

How to Display blob (.pdf) in an AngularJS app

I faced difficulties using "window.URL" with Opera Browser as it would result to "undefined". Also, with window.URL, the PDF document never opened in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge (it would remain waiting forever). I came up with the following solution that works in IE, Edge, Firefox, Chrome and Opera (have not tested with Safari):

$http.post(postUrl, data, {responseType: 'arraybuffer'})
.success(success).error(failed);

function success(data) {
   openPDF(data.data, "myPDFdoc.pdf");
};

function failed(error) {...};

function openPDF(resData, fileName) {
    var ieEDGE = navigator.userAgent.match(/Edge/g);
    var ie = navigator.userAgent.match(/.NET/g); // IE 11+
    var oldIE = navigator.userAgent.match(/MSIE/g);

    var blob = new window.Blob([resData], { type: 'application/pdf' });

    if (ie || oldIE || ieEDGE) {
       window.navigator.msSaveBlob(blob, fileName);
    }
    else {
       var reader = new window.FileReader();
       reader.onloadend = function () {
          window.location.href = reader.result;
       };
       reader.readAsDataURL(blob);
    }
}

Let me know if it helped! :)

document.body.appendChild(i)

You could try

document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(i);

Now that won't do you any good if the code is running in the <head>, and running before the <body> has even been seen by the browser. If you don't want to mess with "onload" handlers, try moving your <script> block to the very end of the document instead of the <head>.

Signed to unsigned conversion in C - is it always safe?

When converting from signed to unsigned there are two possibilities. Numbers that were originally positive remain (or are interpreted as) the same value. Number that were originally negative will now be interpreted as larger positive numbers.

Why can't I enter a string in Scanner(System.in), when calling nextLine()-method?

This is a common misunderstanding which leads to confusion if you use the same Scanner for nextLine() right after you used nextInt().

You can either fix the cursor jumping to the next Line by yourself or just use a different scanner for your Integers.

OPTION A: use 2 different scanners

import java.util.Scanner;

class string
{

    public static void main(String a[]){
    int a;
    String s;
    Scanner intscan =new Scanner(System.in);

    System.out.println("enter a no");
    a=intscan.nextInt();
    System.out.println("no is ="+a);

     Scanner textscan=new Scanner(System.in);
    System.out.println("enter a string");
    s=textscan.nextLine();
    System.out.println("string is="+s);
        }
}

OPTION B: just jump to the next Line

class string
{
    public static void main(String a[]){
        int a;
        String s;
        Scanner scan =new Scanner(System.in);

        System.out.println("enter a no");
        a = scan.nextInt();
        System.out.println("no is ="+a);
        scan.nextLine();

        System.out.println("enter a string");
        s = scan.nextLine();
        System.out.println("string is="+s);

How do I write to a Python subprocess' stdin?

It might be better to use communicate:

from subprocess import Popen, PIPE, STDOUT
p = Popen(['myapp'], stdout=PIPE, stdin=PIPE, stderr=PIPE)
stdout_data = p.communicate(input='data_to_write')[0]

"Better", because of this warning:

Use communicate() rather than .stdin.write, .stdout.read or .stderr.read to avoid deadlocks due to any of the other OS pipe buffers filling up and blocking the child process.

Vertically and horizontally centering text in circle in CSS (like iphone notification badge)

If you have content with height unknown but you know the height the of container. The following solution works extremely well.

HTML

<div class="center-test">
    <span></span><p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit.
    Nesciunt obcaecati maiores nulla praesentium amet explicabo ex iste asperiores
    nisi porro sequi eaque rerum necessitatibus molestias architecto eum velit
    recusandae ratione.</p>
</div>

CSS

.center-test {
   width: 300px;
   height: 300px;
   text-align:
   center;
   background-color: #333;
}
.center-test span {
   height: 300px;
   display: inline-block;
   zoom: 1;
   *display: inline;
   vertical-align: middle;
 }
.center-test p {
   display: inline-block;
   zoom: 1;
   *display: inline;
   vertical-align: middle;
   color: #fff;
 }

EXAMPLE http://jsfiddle.net/thenewconfection/eYtVN/

One gotcha for newby's to display: inline-block; [span] and [p] have no html white space so that the span then doesn't take up any space. Also I've added in the CSS hack for display inline-block for IE. Hope this helps someone!

Sorting a list using Lambda/Linq to objects

Answer for 1.:

You should be able to manually build an expression tree that can be passed into OrderBy using the name as a string. Or you could use reflection as suggested in another answer, which might be less work.

Edit: Here is a working example of building an expression tree manually. (Sorting on X.Value, when only knowing the name "Value" of the property). You could (should) build a generic method for doing it.

using System;
using System.Linq;
using System.Linq.Expressions;

class Program
{
    private static readonly Random rand = new Random();
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        var randX = from n in Enumerable.Range(0, 100)
                    select new X { Value = rand.Next(1000) };

        ParameterExpression pe = Expression.Parameter(typeof(X), "value");
        var expression = Expression.Property(pe, "Value");
        var exp = Expression.Lambda<Func<X, int>>(expression, pe).Compile();

        foreach (var n in randX.OrderBy(exp))
            Console.WriteLine(n.Value);
    }

    public class X
    {
        public int Value { get; set; }
    }
}

Building an expression tree requires you to know the particpating types, however. That might or might not be a problem in your usage scenario. If you don't know what type you should be sorting on, it will propably be easier using reflection.

Answer for 2.:

Yes, since Comparer<T>.Default will be used for the comparison, if you do not explicitly define the comparer.

Smooth scrolling when clicking an anchor link

thanks for sharing, Joseph Silber. Here your 2018 solution as ES6 with a minor change to keep the standard behavior (scroll to top):

document.querySelectorAll("a[href^=\"#\"]").forEach((anchor) => {
  anchor.addEventListener("click", function (ev) {
    ev.preventDefault();

    const targetElement = document.querySelector(this.getAttribute("href"));
    targetElement.scrollIntoView({
      block: "start",
      alignToTop: true,
      behavior: "smooth"
    });
  });
});

How to grant remote access permissions to mysql server for user?

You need to take some steps to make sure first mysql and then root user is accessible from outside:

  1. Disable skip-networking in my.cnf (i.e: /etc/mysql/my.cnf)

  2. Check value of bind-address in my.cnf, if it's set to 127.0.0.1, you can change it to 0.0.0.0 to allow access from all IPs or whatever ip that you want to connect from.

  3. Grant remote access the root user from any ip (or specify your ip instead of %)

    GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'%'
        IDENTIFIED BY 'your_root_password'
        WITH GRANT OPTION;
    FLUSH PRIVILEGES;`

  4. Restart mysql service:

    sudo service mysql restart

'ng' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

I had the same issue on Windows7. I resolved it setting correct path.

  1. First find ng.cmd file on your System. It will usually at:

    E:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\npm

  2. Set PATH to this location.

  3. Close existing command window and open new one

  4. Type

    ng version

Also remember to install angular with -g command.

npm install -g @angular/cli

ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource

I ran into this issue as well. I don't know the technical details of what was actually happening. However, in my situation, the root cause was that there was cascading deletes setup in the Oracle database and my JPA/Hibernate code was also trying to do the cascading delete calls. So my advice is to make sure that you know exactly what is happening.

How do I disable the resizable property of a textarea?

You can simply disable the textarea property like this:

textarea {
    resize: none;
}

To disable vertical or horizontal resizing, use

resize: vertical;

or

resize: horizontal;

The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference

Do

<script>//<![CDATA[
    /* script */
//]]></script>

Where is the Postgresql config file: 'postgresql.conf' on Windows?

postgresql.conf is located in PostgreSQL's data directory. The data directory is configured during the setup and the setting is saved as PGDATA entry in c:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\<version>\pg_env.bat, for example

@ECHO OFF
REM The script sets environment variables helpful for PostgreSQL

@SET PATH="C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\<version>\bin";%PATH%
@SET PGDATA=D:\PostgreSQL\<version>\data
@SET PGDATABASE=postgres
@SET PGUSER=postgres
@SET PGPORT=5432
@SET PGLOCALEDIR=C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\<version>\share\locale

Alternatively you can query your database with SHOW config_file; if you are a superuser.

How do I iterate over a JSON structure?

You can use a mini library like objx - http://objx.googlecode.com/

You can write code like this:

var data =  [ {"id":"10", "class": "child-of-9"},
              {"id":"11", "class": "child-of-10"}];

// alert all IDs
objx(data).each(function(item) { alert(item.id) });

// get all IDs into a new array
var ids = objx(data).collect("id").obj();

// group by class
var grouped = objx(data).group(function(item){ return item.class; }).obj()

There are more 'plugins' available to let you handle data like this, see http://code.google.com/p/objx-plugins/wiki/PluginLibrary

What is the difference between NULL, '\0' and 0?

If NULL and 0 are equivalent as null pointer constants, which should I use? in the C FAQ list addresses this issue as well:

C programmers must understand that NULL and 0 are interchangeable in pointer contexts, and that an uncast 0 is perfectly acceptable. Any usage of NULL (as opposed to 0) should be considered a gentle reminder that a pointer is involved; programmers should not depend on it (either for their own understanding or the compiler's) for distinguishing pointer 0's from integer 0's.

It is only in pointer contexts that NULL and 0 are equivalent. NULL should not be used when another kind of 0 is required, even though it might work, because doing so sends the wrong stylistic message. (Furthermore, ANSI allows the definition of NULL to be ((void *)0), which will not work at all in non-pointer contexts.) In particular, do not use NULL when the ASCII null character (NUL) is desired. Provide your own definition

#define NUL '\0'

if you must.

How to check if a string is null in python

In python, bool(sequence) is False if the sequence is empty. Since strings are sequences, this will work:

cookie = ''
if cookie:
    print "Don't see this"
else:
    print "You'll see this"

How can I check if a string is null or empty in PowerShell?

Personally, I do not accept a whitespace ($STR3) as being 'not empty'.

When a variable that only contains whitespaces is passed onto a parameter, it will often error that the parameters value may not be '$null', instead of saying it may not be a whitespace, some remove commands might remove a root folder instead of a subfolder if the subfolder name is a "white space", all the reason not to accept a string containing whitespaces in many cases.

I find this is the best way to accomplish it:

$STR1 = $null
IF ([string]::IsNullOrWhitespace($STR1)){'empty'} else {'not empty'}

Empty

$STR2 = ""
IF ([string]::IsNullOrWhitespace($STR2)){'empty'} else {'not empty'}

Empty

$STR3 = " "
IF ([string]::IsNullOrWhitespace($STR3)){'empty !! :-)'} else {'not Empty :-('}

Empty!! :-)

$STR4 = "Nico"
IF ([string]::IsNullOrWhitespace($STR4)){'empty'} else {'not empty'}

Not empty

How do I detach objects in Entity Framework Code First?

This is an option:

dbContext.Entry(entity).State = EntityState.Detached;

How to identify object types in java

You forgot the .class:

if (value.getClass() == Integer.class) {
    System.out.println("This is an Integer");
}
else if (value.getClass() == String.class) {
    System.out.println("This is a String");
}
else if (value.getClass() == Float.class) {
    System.out.println("This is a Float");
}

Note that this kind of code is usually the sign of a poor OO design.

Also note that comparing the class of an object with a class and using instanceof is not the same thing. For example:

"foo".getClass() == Object.class

is false, whereas

"foo" instanceof Object

is true.

Whether one or the other must be used depends on your requirements.

HTML tag <a> want to add both href and onclick working

No jQuery needed.

Some people say using onclick is bad practice...

This example uses pure browser javascript. By default, it appears that the click handler will evaluate before the navigation, so you can cancel the navigation and do your own if you wish.

<a id="myButton" href="http://google.com">Click me!</a>
<script>
    window.addEventListener("load", () => {
        document.querySelector("#myButton").addEventListener("click", e => {
            alert("Clicked!");
            // Can also cancel the event and manually navigate
            // e.preventDefault();
            // window.location = e.target.href;
        });
    });
</script>

How to include !important in jquery

If you really need to override css that has !important rules in it, for instance, in a case I ran into recently, overriding a wordpress theme required !important scss rules to break the theme, but since I was transpiling my code with webpack and (I assume this is why --)my css came along in the chain after the transpiled javascript, you can add a separate class rule in your stylesheet that overrides the first !important rule in the cascade, and toggle the heavier-weighted class rather than adjusting css dynamically. Just a thought.

How to request Location Permission at runtime

After having it defined in your manifest file, a friendlier alternative to the native solution would be using Aaper: https://github.com/LikeTheSalad/aaper like so:

private fun scanForLocation() {
    // Your code that needs the location permission granted.
}

Creating a JavaScript cookie on a domain and reading it across sub domains

Here is a working example :

document.cookie = "testCookie=cookieval; domain=." +
location.hostname.split('.').reverse()[1] + "." +
location.hostname.split('.').reverse()[0] + "; path=/"

This is a generic solution that takes the root domain from the location object and sets the cookie. The reversing is because you don't know how many subdomains you have if any.

Moment.js - tomorrow, today and yesterday

Requirements:

  • When the date is further away, use the standard moment().fromNow() functionality.
  • When the date is closer, show "today", "yesterday", "tomorrow", etc.

Solution:

// call this function, passing-in your date
function dateToFromNowDaily( myDate ) {

    // get from-now for this date
    var fromNow = moment( myDate ).fromNow();

    // ensure the date is displayed with today and yesterday
    return moment( myDate ).calendar( null, {
        // when the date is closer, specify custom values
        lastWeek: '[Last] dddd',
        lastDay:  '[Yesterday]',
        sameDay:  '[Today]',
        nextDay:  '[Tomorrow]',
        nextWeek: 'dddd',
        // when the date is further away, use from-now functionality
        sameElse: function () {
            return "[" + fromNow + "]";
        }
    });
}

NB: From version 2.14.0, the formats argument to the calendar function can be a callback, see http://momentjs.com/docs/#/displaying/calendar-time/.

How can I get sin, cos, and tan to use degrees instead of radians?

You can use a function like this to do the conversion:

function toDegrees (angle) {
  return angle * (180 / Math.PI);
}

Note that functions like sin, cos, and so on do not return angles, they take angles as input. It seems to me that it would be more useful to you to have a function that converts a degree input to radians, like this:

function toRadians (angle) {
  return angle * (Math.PI / 180);
}

which you could use to do something like tan(toRadians(45)).

Matrix Multiplication in pure Python?

When I had to do some matrix arithmetic I defined a new class to help. Within such a class you can define magic methods like __add__, or, in your use-case, __matmul__, allowing you to define x = a @ b or a @= b rather than matrixMult(a,b). __matmul__ was added in Python 3.5 per PEP 465.

I have included some code which implements this below (I excluded the prohibitively long __init__ method, which essentially creates a two-dimensional list self.mat and a tuple self.order according to what is passed to it)

class Matrix:
    def __matmul__(self, multiplier):
        if self.order[1] != multiplier.order[0]:
            raise ValueError("The multiplier was non-conformable under multiplication.")
        return [[sum(a*b for a,b in zip(srow,mcol)) for mcol in zip(*multiplier.mat)] for srow in self.mat]

    def __imatmul__(self, multiplier):
        self.mat = self @ multiplier
        return self.mat

    def __rmatmul__(self, multiplicand):
        if multiplicand.order[1] != self.order[0]:
            raise ValueError("The multiplier was non-conformable under multiplication.")
        return [[sum(a*b for a,b in zip(mrow,scol)) for scol in zip(*self.mat)] for mrow in multiplicand.mat]

Note:

  • __rmatmul__ is used if b @ a is called and b does not implement __matmul__ (e.g. if I wanted to implement premultiplying by a 2D list)
  • __imatmul__ is required for a @= b to work correctly;
  • If a matrix is non-conformable under multiplication it means that it cannot be multiplied, usually because it has more or less rows than there are columns in the multiplicand

Getting "method not valid without suitable object" error when trying to make a HTTP request in VBA?

You probably haven't added a reference to Microsoft XML (any version) for Dim objHTTP As New MSXML2.XMLHTTP in the VBA window's Tools/References... dialog.

Also, it's a good idea to avoid using late binding (CreateObject...); better to use early binding (Dim objHTTP As New MSXML2.XMLHTTP), as early binding allows you to use Intellisense to list the members and do all sorts of design-time validation.

I gave 4 examples of common JavaScript usages. I highly recommend using the String prototype with Overloading for legacy support. It makes it much easier to implement and change later.

Fade In Fade Out Android Animation in Java

Another alternative:

No need to define 2 animation for fadeIn and fadeOut. fadeOut is reverse of fadeIn.

So you can do this with Animation.REVERSE like this:

AlphaAnimation alphaAnimation = new AlphaAnimation(0.0f, 1.0f);
alphaAnimation.setDuration(1000);
alphaAnimation.setRepeatCount(1);
alphaAnimation.setRepeatMode(Animation.REVERSE);
view.findViewById(R.id.imageview_logo).startAnimation(alphaAnimation);

then onAnimationEnd:

alphaAnimation.setAnimationListener(new Animation.AnimationListener() {
    @Override
        public void onAnimationStart(Animation animation) {
            //TODO: Run when animation start
        }

        @Override
        public void onAnimationEnd(Animation animation) {
            //TODO: Run when animation end
        }

        @Override
        public void onAnimationRepeat(Animation animation) {
            //TODO: Run when animation repeat
        }
    });

OnclientClick and OnClick is not working at the same time?

Your JavaScript is fine, unless you have other scripts running on this page which may corrupt everything. You may check this using Firebug.

I've now tested a bit and it really seems that ASP.net ignores disabled controls. Basically the postback is issued, but probably the framework ignores such events since it "assumes" that a disabled button cannot raise any postback and so it ignores possibly attached handlers. Now this is just my personal reasoning, one could use Reflector to check this in more depth.

As a solution you could really try to do the disabling at a later point, basically you delay the control.disabled = "disabled" call using a JavaTimer or some other functionality. In this way 1st the postback to the server is issued before the control is being disabled by the JavaScript function. Didn't test this but it could work

Add params to given URL in Python

Yet another answer:

def addGetParameters(url, newParams):
    (scheme, netloc, path, params, query, fragment) = urlparse.urlparse(url)
    queryList = urlparse.parse_qsl(query, keep_blank_values=True)
    for key in newParams:
        queryList.append((key, newParams[key]))
    return urlparse.urlunparse((scheme, netloc, path, params, urllib.urlencode(queryList), fragment))

NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method 'boolean java.lang.String.equalsIgnoreCase(java.lang.String)' on a null object reference

This is the error line:

if (called_from.equalsIgnoreCase("add")) {  --->38th error line

This means that called_from is null. Simple check if it is null above:

String called_from = getIntent().getStringExtra("called");

if(called_from == null) {
    called_from = "empty string";
}
if (called_from.equalsIgnoreCase("add")) {
    // do whatever
} else {
    // do whatever
}

That way, if called_from is null, it'll execute the else part of your if statement.

SQLite error 'attempt to write a readonly database' during insert?

This can be caused by SELinux. If you don't want to disable SELinux completely, you need to set the db directory fcontext to httpd_sys_rw_content_t.

semanage fcontext -a -t httpd_sys_rw_content_t "/var/www/railsapp/db(/.*)?"
restorecon -v /var/www/railsapp/db

How can I determine if an image has loaded, using Javascript/jQuery?

Using the jquery data store you can define a 'loaded' state.

<img id="myimage" onload="$(this).data('loaded', 'loaded');" src="lolcats.jpg" />

Then elsewhere you can do:

if ($('#myimage').data('loaded')) {
    // loaded, so do stuff
}

How do I concatenate a string with a variable?

This can happen because java script allows white spaces sometimes if a string is concatenated with a number. try removing the spaces and create a string and then pass it into getElementById.

example:

var str = 'horseThumb_'+id;

str = str.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,"");

function AddBorder(id){

    document.getElementById(str).className='hand positionLeft'

}

Deploy a project using Git push

I am using the following solution by toroid.org, which has a simpler hook script.

on the server:

$ mkdir website.git && cd website.git
$ git init --bare
Initialized empty Git repository in /home/ams/website.git/

and install the hook on the server:

$ mkdir /var/www/www.example.org
$ cat > hooks/post-receive
#!/bin/sh
GIT_WORK_TREE=/var/www/www.example.org git checkout -f
GIT_WORK_TREE=/var/www/www git clean -f -d # clean directory from removed files

$ chmod +x hooks/post-receive

on your client:

$ mkdir website && cd website
$ git init
Initialized empty Git repository in /home/ams/website/.git/
$ echo 'Hello, world!' > index.html
$ git add index.html
$ git commit -q -m "The humble beginnings of my web site."

$ git remote add web ssh://server.example.org/home/ams/website.git
$ git push web +master:refs/heads/master

then to publish, just type

$ git push web

The server principal is not able to access the database under the current security context in SQL Server MS 2012

SQL Logins are defined at the server level, and must be mapped to Users in specific databases.

In SSMS object explorer, under the server you want to modify, expand Security > Logins, then double-click the appropriate user which will bring up the "Login Properties" dialog.

Select User Mapping, which will show all databases on the server, with the ones having an existing mapping selected. From here you can select additional databases (and be sure to select which roles in each database that user should belong to), then click OK to add the mappings.

enter image description here

These mappings can become disconnected after a restore or similar operation. In this case, the user may still exist in the database but is not actually mapped to a login. If that happens, you can run the following to restore the login:

USE {database};
ALTER USER {user} WITH login = {login}

You can also delete the DB user and recreate it from the Login Properties dialog, but any role memberships or other settings would need to be recreated.

How do I join two SQLite tables in my Android application?

"Ambiguous column" usually means that the same column name appears in at least two tables; the database engine can't tell which one you want. Use full table names or table aliases to remove the ambiguity.

Here's an example I happened to have in my editor. It's from someone else's problem, but should make sense anyway.

select P.*
from product_has_image P
inner join highest_priority_images H
        on (H.id_product = P.id_product and H.priority = p.priority)

What's the difference between F5 refresh and Shift+F5 in Google Chrome browser?

Control+Shift+R or Shift + F5 = Reload your current page, ignoring cached content

javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name is not bound in this Context. Unable to find

In Tomcat 8.0.44 I did this: create the JNDI on Tomcat's server.xml between the tag "GlobalNamingResources" For example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
<GlobalNamingResources>_x000D_
    <!-- Editable user database that can also be used by_x000D_
         UserDatabaseRealm to authenticate users_x000D_
    -->_x000D_
  <!-- Other previus resouces -->_x000D_
    <Resource auth="Container" driverClassName="org.postgresql.Driver" global="jdbc/your_jndi" _x000D_
    maxActive="100" maxIdle="20" maxWait="1000" minIdle="5" name="jdbc/your_jndi" password="your_password" _x000D_
    type="javax.sql.DataSource" url="jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5432/your_database?user=postgres" username="database_username"/>_x000D_
  </GlobalNamingResources>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_ In your web application you need a link to that resource (ResourceLink):

project explore

_x000D_
_x000D_
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>_x000D_
<Context reloadable="true" >_x000D_
   <ResourceLink name="jdbc/your_jndi"_x000D_
      global="jdbc/your_jndi"_x000D_
      auth="Container"_x000D_
      type="javax.sql.DataSource" />_x000D_
</Context>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

So if you're using Hiberte with spring you can tell to him to use the JNDI in your persistence.xml

persistence.xml location

_x000D_
_x000D_
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>_x000D_
<persistence xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"_x000D_
 xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_2_0.xsd"_x000D_
 version="2.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence">_x000D_
 <persistence-unit name="UNIT_NAME" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL">_x000D_
  <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider>_x000D_
_x000D_
  <properties>_x000D_
   <property name="javax.persistence.jdbc.driver"   value="org.postgresql.Driver" />_x000D_
   <property name="hibernate.dialect" value="org.hibernate.dialect.PostgreSQL82Dialect" />_x000D_
   _x000D_
   <!--  <property name="hibernate.jdbc.time_zone" value="UTC"/>-->_x000D_
   <property name="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto" value="update" />_x000D_
   <property name="hibernate.show_sql" value="false" />_x000D_
   <property name="hibernate.format_sql" value="true"/>     _x000D_
  </properties>_x000D_
 </persistence-unit>_x000D_
</persistence>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

So in your spring.xml you can do that:

_x000D_
_x000D_
<bean id="postGresDataSource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">_x000D_
   <property name="jndiName" value="java:comp/env/jdbc/your_jndi" />_x000D_
  </bean>_x000D_
     _x000D_
        <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean">_x000D_
              <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="UNIT_NAME" />_x000D_
              <property name="dataSource" ref="postGresDataSource" />_x000D_
              <property name="jpaVendorAdapter"> _x000D_
                 <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.vendor.HibernateJpaVendorAdapter" />_x000D_
              </property>_x000D_
        </bean>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_ Look above that entityManagerFactory bean refers to your UNIT_NAME configured at persistence xml and the bean postGresDataSource has a property that points to your JNDI resource in Tomcat.

_x000D_
_x000D_
<property name="jndiName" value="java:comp/env/jdbc/your_jndi" />
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

In this example I used spring with xml but you can do this programmaticaly if you prefer.

That's it, I hope helped.

How to create python bytes object from long hex string?

You can do this with the hex codec. ie:

>>> s='000000000000484240FA063DE5D0B744ADBED63A81FAEA390000C8428640A43D5005BD44'
>>> s.decode('hex')
'\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00HB@\xfa\x06=\xe5\xd0\xb7D\xad\xbe\xd6:\x81\xfa\xea9\x00\x00\xc8B\x86@\xa4=P\x05\xbdD'

Check if key exists in JSON object using jQuery

No need of JQuery simply you can do

if(yourObject['email']){
 // what if this property exists.
}

as with any value for email will return you true, if there is no such property or that property value is null or undefined will result to false

OnClick in Excel VBA

Clearly, there is no perfect answer. However, if you want to allow the user to

  1. select certain cells
  2. allow them to change those cells, and
  3. trap each click,even repeated clicks on the same cell,

then the easiest way seems to be to move the focus off the selected cell, so that clicking it will trigger a Select event.

One option is to move the focus as I suggested above, but this prevents cell editing. Another option is to extend the selection by one cell (left/right/up/down),because this permits editing of the original cell, but will trigger a Select event if that cell is clicked again on its own.

If you only wanted to trap selection of a single column of cells, you could insert a hidden column to the right, extend the selection to include the hidden cell to the right when the user clicked,and this gives you an editable cell which can be trapped every time it is clicked. The code is as follows

Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
  'prevent Select event triggering again when we extend the selection below
  Application.EnableEvents = False
  Target.Resize(1, 2).Select
  Application.EnableEvents = True
End Sub

C# - Print dictionary

There are so many ways to do this, here is some more:

string.Join(Environment.NewLine, dictionary.Select(a => $"{a.Key}: {a.Value}"))
dictionary.Select(a => $"{a.Key}: {a.Value}{Environment.NewLine}")).Aggregate((a,b)=>a+b)
new String(dictionary.SelectMany(a => $"{a.Key}: {a.Value} {Environment.NewLine}").ToArray())

Additionally, you can then use one of these and encapsulate it in an extension method:

public static class DictionaryExtensions
{
    public static string ToReadable<T,V>(this Dictionary<T, V> d){
        return string.Join(Environment.NewLine, d.Select(a => $"{a.Key}: {a.Value}"));
    }
}

And use it like this: yourDictionary.ToReadable().

Text-decoration: none not working

a:link{
  text-decoration: none!important;
}

SQL Server Escape an Underscore

T-SQL Reference for LIKE:

You can use the wildcard pattern matching characters as literal characters. To use a wildcard character as a literal character, enclose the wildcard character in brackets. The following table shows several examples of using the LIKE keyword and the [ ] wildcard characters.

For your case:

... LIKE '%[_]d'

Can I use a case/switch statement with two variables?

var var1 = "something";
var var2 = "something_else";
switch(var1 + "|" + var2) {
    case "something|something_else":
        ...
        break;
    case "something|...":
        break;
    case "...|...":
        break;
}

If you have 5 possibilities for each one you will get 25 cases.

Android: How to detect double-tap?

I created a simple library to handle this. it can also detect more than two clicks (it all depends on you). after you import the ClickCounter class, here is how you use it to detect single and multiple clicks:

ClickCounter counter = new ClickCounter();

view.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View view) {
        counter.addClick(); // submits click to be counted
    }
});

counter.setClickCountListener(new ClickCounter.ClickCountListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClickingCompleted(int clickCount) {
        rewardUserWithClicks(clickCount); // Thats All!!
    }
});

What Does This Mean in PHP -> or =>

-> is used to call a method, or access a property, on the object of a class

=> is used to assign values to the keys of an array

E.g.:

    $ages = array("Peter"=>32, "Quagmire"=>30, "Joe"=>34, 1=>2);

And since PHP 7.4+ the operator => is used too for the added arrow functions, a more concise syntax for anonymous functions.

Raw SQL Query without DbSet - Entity Framework Core

With Entity Framework 6 you can execute something like below

Create Modal Class as

Public class User
{
        public int Id { get; set; }
        public string fname { get; set; }
        public string lname { get; set; }
        public string username { get; set; }
}

Execute Raw DQL SQl command as below:

var userList = datacontext.Database.SqlQuery<User>(@"SELECT u.Id ,fname , lname ,username FROM dbo.Users").ToList<User>();

How can I turn a string into a list in Python?

The list() function [docs] will convert a string into a list of single-character strings.

>>> list('hello')
['h', 'e', 'l', 'l', 'o']

Even without converting them to lists, strings already behave like lists in several ways. For example, you can access individual characters (as single-character strings) using brackets:

>>> s = "hello"
>>> s[1]
'e'
>>> s[4]
'o'

You can also loop over the characters in the string as you can loop over the elements of a list:

>>> for c in 'hello':
...     print c + c,
...
hh ee ll ll oo

Why do we use Base64?

Here is a summary of my understanding after reading what others have posted:

Important!

Base64 encoding is not meant to provide security

Base64 encoding is not meant to compress data

Why do we use Base64

Base64 is a text representation of data that consists of only 64 characters which are the alphanumeric characters (lowercase and uppercase), +, / and =. These 64 characters are considered ‘safe’, that is, they can not be misinterpreted by legacy computers and programs unlike characters such as <, > \n and many others.

How to check if an array element exists?

A little anecdote to illustrate the use of array_key_exists.

// A programmer walked through the parking lot in search of his car
// When he neared it, he reached for his pocket to grab his array of keys
$keyChain = array(
    'office-door' => unlockOffice(),
    'home-key' => unlockSmallApartment(),
    'wifes-mercedes' => unusedKeyAfterDivorce(),
    'safety-deposit-box' => uselessKeyForEmptyBox(),
    'rusto-old-car' => unlockOldBarrel(),
);

// He tried and tried but couldn't find the right key for his car
// And so he wondered if he had the right key with him.
// To determine this he used array_key_exists
if (array_key_exists('rusty-old-car', $keyChain)) {
    print('Its on the chain.');
}

Access to the path is denied

I had the same problem but I fixed it by saving the file in a different location and then copying the file and pasting it in the location where I wanted it to be. I used the option to replace the the existing file and that did the trick for me. I know this is not the most efficient way but it works and takes less than 15 seconds.

What does the exclamation mark do before the function?

There is a good point for using ! for function invocation marked on airbnb JavaScript guide

Generally idea for using this technique on separate files (aka modules) which later get concatenated. The caveat here is that files supposed to be concatenated by tools which put the new file at the new line (which is anyway common behavior for most of concat tools). In that case, using ! will help to avoid error in if previously concatenated module missed trailing semicolon, and yet that will give the flexibility to put them in any order with no worry.

!function abc(){}();
!function bca(){}();

Will work the same as

!function abc(){}();
(function bca(){})();

but saves one character and arbitrary looks better.

And by the way any of +,-,~,void operators have the same effect, in terms of invoking the function, for sure if you have to use something to return from that function they would act differently.

abcval = !function abc(){return true;}() // abcval equals false
bcaval = +function bca(){return true;}() // bcaval equals 1
zyxval = -function zyx(){return true;}() // zyxval equals -1
xyzval = ~function xyz(){return true;}() // your guess?

but if you using IIFE patterns for one file one module code separation and using concat tool for optimization (which makes one line one file job), then construction

!function abc(/*no returns*/) {}()
+function bca() {/*no returns*/}()

Will do safe code execution, same as a very first code sample.

This one will throw error cause JavaScript ASI will not be able to do its work.

!function abc(/*no returns*/) {}()
(function bca() {/*no returns*/})()

One note regarding unary operators, they would do similar work, but only in case, they used not in the first module. So they are not so safe if you do not have total control over the concatenation order.

This works:

!function abc(/*no returns*/) {}()
^function bca() {/*no returns*/}()

This not:

^function abc(/*no returns*/) {}()
!function bca() {/*no returns*/}()

How do I get formatted JSON in .NET using C#?

Oneliner using Newtonsoft.Json.Linq:

string prettyJson = JToken.Parse(uglyJsonString).ToString(Formatting.Indented);

Display Back Arrow on Toolbar

If you were using AppCompatActivity and have gone down the path of not using it, because you wanted to not get the automatic ActionBar that it provides, because you want to separate out the Toolbar, because of your Material Design needs and CoordinatorLayout or AppBarLayout, then, consider this:

You can still use the AppCompatActivity, you don't need to stop using it just so that you can use a <android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar> in your xml. Just turn off the action bar style as follows:

First, derive a style from one of the NoActionBar themes that you like in your styles.xml, I used Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar like so:

<style name="SuperCoolAppBarActivity" parent="Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar">
    <item name="colorPrimary">@color/primary</item>

    <!-- colorPrimaryDark is used for the status bar -->
    <item name="colorPrimaryDark">@color/primary_dark</item>
    ...
    ...
</style>

In your App's manifest, choose the child style theme you just defined, like so:

    <activity
        android:name=".activity.YourSuperCoolActivity"
        android:label="@string/super_cool"
        android:theme="@style/SuperCoolAppBarActivity">
    </activity>

In your Activity Xml, if the toolbar is defined like so:

...
    <android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
        android:id="@+id/toolbar"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
        />
...

Then, and this is the important part, you set the support Action bar to the AppCompatActivity that you're extending, so that the toolbar in your xml, becomes the action bar. I feel that this is a better way, because you can simply do the many things that ActionBar allows, like menus, automatic activity title, item selection handling, etc. without resorting to adding custom click handlers, etc.

In your Activity's onCreate override, do the following:

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)
{
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_super_cool);
    Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);

    setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
    //Your toolbar is now an action bar and you can use it like you always do, for example:
    getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
}

How to read a file into a variable in shell?

In cross-platform, lowest-common-denominator sh you use:

#!/bin/sh
value=`cat config.txt`
echo "$value"

In bash or zsh, to read a whole file into a variable without invoking cat:

#!/bin/bash
value=$(<config.txt)
echo "$value"

Invoking cat in bash or zsh to slurp a file would be considered a Useless Use of Cat.

Note that it is not necessary to quote the command substitution to preserve newlines.

See: Bash Hacker's Wiki - Command substitution - Specialities.

belongs_to through associations

So you cant have the behavior that you want but you can do something that feels like it. You want to be able to do Choice.first.question

what I have done in the past is something like this

class Choice
  belongs_to :user
  belongs_to :answer
  validates_uniqueness_of :answer_id, :scope => [ :question_id, :user_id ]
  ...
  def question
    answer.question
  end
end

this way the you can now call question on Choice

Apache won't run in xampp

In my case, it was something else. One day earlier I tried to install Magento using bitnami of xampp. And I deleted That Module

I opened the httpd.conf and found this line:

I just commented it with #,

Now it's running fine. :)

JavaScript and Threads

Here is just a way to simulate multi-threading in Javascript

Now I am going to create 3 threads which will calculate numbers addition, numbers can be divided with 13 and numbers can be divided with 3 till 10000000000. And these 3 functions are not able to run in same time as what Concurrency means. But I will show you a trick that will make these functions run recursively in the same time : jsFiddle

This code belongs to me.

Body Part

    <div class="div1">
    <input type="button" value="start/stop" onclick="_thread1.control ? _thread1.stop() : _thread1.start();" /><span>Counting summation of numbers till 10000000000</span> = <span id="1">0</span>
</div>
<div class="div2">
    <input type="button" value="start/stop" onclick="_thread2.control ? _thread2.stop() : _thread2.start();" /><span>Counting numbers can be divided with 13 till 10000000000</span> = <span id="2">0</span>
</div>
<div class="div3">
    <input type="button" value="start/stop" onclick="_thread3.control ? _thread3.stop() : _thread3.start();" /><span>Counting numbers can be divided with 3 till 10000000000</span> = <span id="3">0</span>

for each loop in groovy

you can use below groovy code for maps with foreachloop

def map=[key1:'value1',key2:'value2']

for(item in map)
{
log.info item.value // this will print value1 value2
log.info item // this will print key1=value1 key2=value2
}

How to include Javascript file in Asp.Net page

I assume that you are using MasterPage so within your master page you should have

<head runat="server">
    <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="head" runat="server">
    </asp:ContentPlaceHolder>
</head>

And within any of your pages based on that MasterPage add this

<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="head" runat="server">
    <script src="js/yourscript.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
</asp:Content>

Can I dynamically add HTML within a div tag from C# on load event?

You can add a div with runat="server" to the page:

<div runat="server" id="myDiv">
</div>

and then set its InnerHtml property from the code-behind:

myDiv.InnerHtml = "your html here";

If you want to modify the DIV's contents on the client side, then you can use javascript code similar to this:

<script type="text/javascript">
    Sys.Application.add_load(MyLoad);
    function MyLoad(sender) {
        $get('<%= div.ClientID %>').innerHTML += " - text added on client";
    }
</script>

PowerShell - Start-Process and Cmdline Switches

Using explicit parameters, it would be:

$msbuild = 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\MSBuild.exe'
start-Process -FilePath $msbuild -ArgumentList '/v:q','/nologo'

EDIT: quotes.

Make Bootstrap's Carousel both center AND responsive?

Lock, mutex, semaphore... what's the difference?

It is a general vision. Details are depended on real language realisation

lock - thread synchronization tool. When thread get a lock it becomes a single thread which is able to execute a block of code. All others thread are blocked. Only thread which owns by lock can unlock it

mutex - mutual exclusion lock. It is a kind of lock. On some languages it is inter-process mechanism, on some languages it is a synonym of lock. For example Java uses lock in synchronised and java.util.concurrent.locks.Lock

semaphore - allows a number of threads to access a shared resource. You can find that mutex also can be implemented by semaphore. It is a standalone object which manage an access to shared resource. You can find that any thread can signal and unblock. Also it is used for signalling

How do I change the background color of a plot made with ggplot2

To avoid deprecated opts and theme_rect use:

myplot + theme(panel.background = element_rect(fill='green', colour='red'))

To define your own custom theme, based on theme_gray but with some of your changes and a few added extras including control of gridline colour/size (more options available to play with at ggplot2.org):

theme_jack <- function (base_size = 12, base_family = "") {
    theme_gray(base_size = base_size, base_family = base_family) %+replace%
        theme(
            axis.text = element_text(colour = "white"),
            axis.title.x = element_text(colour = "pink", size=rel(3)),
            axis.title.y = element_text(colour = "blue", angle=45),
            panel.background = element_rect(fill="green"),
            panel.grid.minor.y = element_line(size=3),
            panel.grid.major = element_line(colour = "orange"),
            plot.background = element_rect(fill="red")
    )
}

To make your custom theme the default when ggplot is called in future, without masking:

theme_set(theme_jack())

If you want to change an element of the currently set theme:

theme_update(plot.background = element_rect(fill="pink"), axis.title.x = element_text(colour = "red"))

To store the current default theme as an object:

theme_pink <- theme_get()

Note that theme_pink is a list whereas theme_jack was a function. So to return the theme to theme_jack use theme_set(theme_jack()) whereas to return to theme_pink use theme_set(theme_pink).

You can replace theme_gray by theme_bw in the definition of theme_jack if you prefer. For your custom theme to resemble theme_bw but with all gridlines (x, y, major and minor) turned off:

theme_nogrid <- function (base_size = 12, base_family = "") {
    theme_bw(base_size = base_size, base_family = base_family) %+replace%
        theme(
            panel.grid = element_blank()
    )
}

Finally a more radical theme useful when plotting choropleths or other maps in ggplot, based on discussion here but updated to avoid deprecation. The aim here is to remove the gray background, and any other features that might distract from the map.

theme_map <- function (base_size = 12, base_family = "") {
    theme_gray(base_size = base_size, base_family = base_family) %+replace%
        theme(
            axis.line=element_blank(),
            axis.text.x=element_blank(),
            axis.text.y=element_blank(),
            axis.ticks=element_blank(),
            axis.ticks.length=unit(0.3, "lines"),
            axis.ticks.margin=unit(0.5, "lines"),
            axis.title.x=element_blank(),
            axis.title.y=element_blank(),
            legend.background=element_rect(fill="white", colour=NA),
            legend.key=element_rect(colour="white"),
            legend.key.size=unit(1.2, "lines"),
            legend.position="right",
            legend.text=element_text(size=rel(0.8)),
            legend.title=element_text(size=rel(0.8), face="bold", hjust=0),
            panel.background=element_blank(),
            panel.border=element_blank(),
            panel.grid.major=element_blank(),
            panel.grid.minor=element_blank(),
            panel.margin=unit(0, "lines"),
            plot.background=element_blank(),
            plot.margin=unit(c(1, 1, 0.5, 0.5), "lines"),
            plot.title=element_text(size=rel(1.2)),
            strip.background=element_rect(fill="grey90", colour="grey50"),
            strip.text.x=element_text(size=rel(0.8)),
            strip.text.y=element_text(size=rel(0.8), angle=-90)
        )

How can I count the rows with data in an Excel sheet?

You should use the sumif function in Excel:

=SUMIF(A5:C10;"Text_to_find";C5:C10)

This function takes a range like this square A5:C10 then you have some text to find this text can be in A or B then it will add the number from the C-row.

Opening Chrome From Command Line

Answering this for Ubuntu users for reference.

Run command google-chrome --app-url "http://localhost/"

Replace your desired URL in the parameter.

You can get more options like incognito mode etc. Run google-chrome --help to see the options.

What's the fastest algorithm for sorting a linked list?

Comparison sorts (i.e. ones based on comparing elements) cannot possibly be faster than n log n. It doesn't matter what the underlying data structure is. See Wikipedia.

Other kinds of sort that take advantage of there being lots of identical elements in the list (such as the counting sort), or some expected distribution of elements in the list, are faster, though I can't think of any that work particularly well on a linked list.

Visual Studio Code - Target of URI doesn't exist 'package:flutter/material.dart'

Also happened to me while trying to run the project inside of another directory.

Worked by using the root directory of the main project

How to parse JSON in Java

Use minimal-json which is very fast and easy to use. You can parse from String obj and Stream.

Sample data:

{
  "order": 4711,
  "items": [
    {
      "name": "NE555 Timer IC",
      "cat-id": "645723",
      "quantity": 10,
    },
    {
      "name": "LM358N OpAmp IC",
      "cat-id": "764525",
      "quantity": 2
    }
  ]
}

Parsing:

JsonObject object = Json.parse(input).asObject();
int orders = object.get("order").asInt();
JsonArray items = object.get("items").asArray();

Creating JSON:

JsonObject user = Json.object().add("name", "Sakib").add("age", 23);

Maven:

<dependency>
  <groupId>com.eclipsesource.minimal-json</groupId>
  <artifactId>minimal-json</artifactId>
  <version>0.9.4</version>
</dependency>

CSS to stop text wrapping under image

Very simple answer for this problem that seems to catch a lot of people:

<img src="url-to-image">
<p>Nullam id dolor id nibh ultricies vehicula ut id elit.</p>

    img {
        float: left;
    }
    p {
        overflow: hidden;
    }

How to parse JSON Array (Not Json Object) in Android

Old post I know, but unless I've misunderstood the question, this should do the trick:

s = '[{"name":"name1","url":"url1"},{"name":"name2","url":"url2"}]';
eval("array=" + s);
for (var i = 0; i < array.length; i++) {
for (var index in array[i]) {
    alert(array[i][index]);
}

Pylint, PyChecker or PyFlakes?

pep8 was recently added to PyPi.

  • pep8 - Python style guide checker
  • pep8 is a tool to check your Python code against some of the style conventions in PEP 8.

It is now super easy to check your code against pep8.
