Programs & Examples On #Finalizer

A finalizer is a special method in an object-oriented language that is executed when an object is garbage collected.

Use of Finalize/Dispose method in C#

I agree with pm100 (and should have explicitly said this in my earlier post).

You should never implement IDisposable in a class unless you need it. To be very specific, there are about 5 times when you would ever need/should implement IDisposable:

  1. Your class explicitly contains (i.e. not via inheritance) any managed resources which implement IDisposable and should be cleaned up once your class is no longer used. For example, if your class contains an instance of a Stream, DbCommand, DataTable, etc.

  2. Your class explicitly contains any managed resources which implement a Close() method - e.g. IDataReader, IDbConnection, etc. Note that some of these classes do implement IDisposable by having Dispose() as well as a Close() method.

  3. Your class explicitly contains an unmanaged resource - e.g. a COM object, pointers (yes, you can use pointers in managed C# but they must be declared in 'unsafe' blocks, etc. In the case of unmanaged resources, you should also make sure to call System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject() on the RCW. Even though the RCW is, in theory, a managed wrapper, there is still reference counting going on under the covers.

  4. If your class subscribes to events using strong references. You need to unregister/detach yourself from the events. Always to make sure these are not null first before trying to unregister/detach them!.

  5. Your class contains any combination of the above...

A recommended alternative to working with COM objects and having to use Marshal.ReleaseComObject() is to use the System.Runtime.InteropServices.SafeHandle class.

The BCL (Base Class Library Team) has a good blog post about it here http://blogs.msdn.com/bclteam/archive/2005/03/16/396900.aspx

One very important note to make is that if you are working with WCF and cleaning up resources, you should ALMOST ALWAYS avoid the 'using' block. There are plenty of blog posts out there and some on MSDN about why this is a bad idea. I have also posted about it here - Don't use 'using()' with a WCF proxy

regular expression to validate datetime format (MM/DD/YYYY)

In this case, to validate Date (DD-MM-YYYY) or (DD/MM/YYYY), with a year between 1900 and 2099,like this with month and Days validation

if (!Regex.Match(txtDob.Text, @"^(0[1-9]|1[0-9]|2[0-9]|3[0,1])([/+-])(0[1-9]|1[0-2])([/+-])(19|20)[0-9]{2}$").Success)
{
   MessageBox.Show("InValid Date of Birth");
   txtDob.Focus();

How to select label for="XYZ" in CSS?

If the content is a variable, it will be necessary to concatenate it with quotation marks. It worked for me. Like this:

itemSelected(id: number){
    console.log('label contains', document.querySelector("label[for='" + id + "']"));
}

When using Spring Security, what is the proper way to obtain current username (i.e. SecurityContext) information in a bean?

The only problem is that even after authenticating with Spring Security, the user/principal bean doesn't exist in the container, so dependency-injecting it will be difficult. Before we used Spring Security we would create a session-scoped bean that had the current Principal, inject that into an "AuthService" and then inject that Service into most of the other services in the Application. So those Services would simply call authService.getCurrentUser() to get the object. If you have a place in your code where you get a reference to the same Principal in the session, you can simply set it as a property on your session-scoped bean.

Is it possible to preview stash contents in git?

The following command can be used to extract diff of stashed change againest any other stash or commit or branch or HEAD.

git stash show
git show
git diff
git difftool

Let’s see, how we can use each of the above mentioned commands.

  1. git stash show

The simple command git stash show gives very brief summary of changes of file, but will not show the diff of changes against current HEAD.

  1. git show

The command git-show is used to see various types of objects.

The command git-show is not only used to visualize stash changes, but also used to see one or more objects like blobs, trees, tags and commits.

  1. git diff

The command git-diff is also one of common command which is used to show changes between commits, commit and working tree, etc.

By default, git diff will show the diff of selected stash against(modified files) current state of repository unless other stash reference or commit is specified.

To get difference between top most stash stash@{0} and master branch:

$ git diff stash@{0} master

Only display the names of file not diff of changes:

$ git diff --name-only stash@{0} master

See the diff between selected stashes for a selected file:

$ git diff stash@{0}^1 stash@{0} --

  1. git difftool

The command git-difftool can also be used to find diff between selected stash and selected commit or branch or stash

See the difference between latest two stashes:

$ git difftool stash@{0} stash@{0}^1

git difftool --dir-diff stash@{0} stash@{0}^1

Summary:

Commands which are useful to extract the diff from selected stash git stash show, git show, git diff, git difftool .

See difference using command git stash show,

git stash show -p stash@{0}

See the changes in the stash using command git show,

git show stash@{1}

See the difference between latest stash and selected commit using command git diff,

git diff stash@{0}

"Debug only" code that should run only when "turned on"

If you want to know whether if debugging, everywhere in program. Use this.

Declare global variable.

bool isDebug=false;

Create function for checking debug mode

[ConditionalAttribute("DEBUG")]
    public static void isDebugging()
    {
        isDebug = true;
    }

In the initialize method call the function

isDebugging();

Now in the entire program. You can check for debugging and do the operations. Hope this Helps!

All inclusive Charset to avoid "java.nio.charset.MalformedInputException: Input length = 1"?

try this.. i had the same issue, below implementation worked for me

Reader reader = Files.newBufferedReader(Paths.get(<yourfilewithpath>), StandardCharsets.ISO_8859_1);

then use Reader where ever you want.

foreg:

CsvToBean<anyPojo> csvToBean = null;
    try {
        Reader reader = Files.newBufferedReader(Paths.get(csvFilePath),
                        StandardCharsets.ISO_8859_1);
        csvToBean = new CsvToBeanBuilder(reader)
                .withType(anyPojo.class)
                .withIgnoreLeadingWhiteSpace(true)
                .withSkipLines(1)
                .build();

    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();

find_spec_for_exe': can't find gem bundler (>= 0.a) (Gem::GemNotFoundException)

The real answer is here if you try to install bundler 2.0.1 or 2.0.0 due to Bundler requiring RubyGems v3.0.0

Yesterday I released Bundler 2.0 that introduced a number of breaking changes. One of the those changes was setting Bundler to require RubyGems v3.0.0. After making the release, it has become clear that lots of our users are running into issues with Bundler 2 requiring a really new version of RubyGems.

We have been listening closely to feedback from users and have decided to relax the RubyGems requirement to v2.5.0 at minimum. We have released a new Bundler version, v2.0.1, that adjusts this requirement.

For more info, see: https://bundler.io/blog/2019/01/04/an-update-on-the-bundler-2-release.html

How to redirect to a route in laravel 5 by using href tag if I'm not using blade or any template?

In addition to @chanafdo answer, you can use route name

when working with laravel blade

<a href="{{route('login')}}">login here</a> with parameter in route name

when go to url like URI: profile/{id} <a href="{{route('profile', ['id' => 1])}}">login here</a>

without blade

<a href="<?php echo route('login')?>">login here</a>

with parameter in route name

when go to url like URI: profile/{id} <a href="<?php echo route('profile', ['id' => 1])?>">login here</a>

As of laravel 5.2 you can use @php @endphp to create as <?php ?> in laravel blade. Using blade your personal opinion but I suggest to use it. Learn it. It has many wonderful features as template inheritance, Components & Slots,subviews etc...

How to insert a string which contains an "&"

There's always the chr() function, which converts an ascii code to string.

ie. something like: INSERT INTO table VALUES ( CONCAT( 'J', CHR(38), 'J' ) )

How to get the unique ID of an object which overrides hashCode()?

hashCode() method is not for providing a unique identifier for an object. It rather digests the object's state (i.e. values of member fields) to a single integer. This value is mostly used by some hash based data structures like maps and sets to effectively store and retrieve objects.

If you need an identifier for your objects, I recommend you to add your own method instead of overriding hashCode. For this purpose, you can create a base interface (or an abstract class) like below.

public interface IdentifiedObject<I> {
    I getId();
}

Example usage:

public class User implements IdentifiedObject<Integer> {
    private Integer studentId;

    public User(Integer studentId) {
        this.studentId = studentId;
    }

    @Override
    public Integer getId() {
        return studentId;
    }
}

How can I read a whole file into a string variable

If you just want the content as string, then the simple solution is to use the ReadFile function from the io/ioutil package. This function returns a slice of bytes which you can easily convert to a string.

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "io/ioutil"
)

func main() {
    b, err := ioutil.ReadFile("file.txt") // just pass the file name
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Print(err)
    }

    fmt.Println(b) // print the content as 'bytes'

    str := string(b) // convert content to a 'string'

    fmt.Println(str) // print the content as a 'string'
}

powerpoint loop a series of animation

Unfortunately you're probably done with the animation and presentation already. In the hopes this answer can help future questioners, however, this blog post has a walkthrough of steps that can loop a single slide as a sort of sub-presentation.

First, click Slide Show > Set Up Show.

Put a checkmark to Loop continuously until 'Esc'.

Click Ok. Now, Click Slide Show > Custom Shows. Click New.

Select the slide you are looping, click Add. Click Ok and Close.

Click on the slide you are looping. Click Slide Show > Slide Transition. Under Advance slide, put a checkmark to Automatically After. This will allow the slide to loop automatically. Do NOT Apply to all slides.

Right click on the thumbnail of the current slide, select Hide Slide.

Now, you will need to insert a new slide just before the slide you are looping. On the new slide, insert an action button. Set the hyperlink to the custom show you have created. Put a checkmark on "Show and Return"

This has worked for me.

Simple proof that GUID is not unique

Well if the running time of 83 billion years does not scare you, think that you will also need to store the generated GUIDs somewhere to check if you have a duplicate; storing 2^128 16-byte numbers would only require you to allocate 4951760157141521099596496896 terabytes of RAM upfront, so imagining you have a computer which could fit all that and that you somehow find a place to buy terabyte DIMMs at 10 grams each, combined they will weigh more than 8 Earth masses, so you can seriously shift it off the current orbit, before you even press "Run". Think twice!

How can I use tabs for indentation in IntelliJ IDEA?

How to concatenate int values in java?

Use StringBuilder

StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(String.valueOf(a));
sb.append(String.valueOf(b));
sb.append(String.valueOf(c));
sb.append(String.valueOf(d));
sb.append(String.valueOf(e));
System.out.print(sb.toString());

Different ways of clearing lists

Doing alist = [] does not clear the list, just creates an empty list and binds it to the variable alist. The old list will still exist if it had other variable bindings.

To actually clear a list in-place, you can use any of these ways:

  1. alist.clear() # Python 3.3+, most obvious
  2. del alist[:]
  3. alist[:] = []
  4. alist *= 0 # fastest

See the Mutable Sequence Types documentation page for more details.

jQuery find element by data attribute value

You can also use .filter()

$('.slide-link').filter('[data-slide="0"]').addClass('active');

Remove grid, background color, and top and right borders from ggplot2

I followed Andrew's answer, but I also had to follow https://stackoverflow.com/a/35833548 and set the x and y axes separately due to a bug in my version of ggplot (v2.1.0).

Instead of

theme(axis.line = element_line(color = 'black'))

I used

theme(axis.line.x = element_line(color="black", size = 2),
    axis.line.y = element_line(color="black", size = 2))

How to drop all stored procedures at once in SQL Server database?

By mixing the cursor and system procedure, we would have a optimized solution, as follow:

DECLARE DelAllProcedures CURSOR
FOR
    SELECT name AS procedure_name
    FROM sys.procedures;
OPEN DelAllProcedures
DECLARE @ProcName VARCHAR(100)
FETCH NEXT
FROM DelAllProcedures
INTO @ProcName
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS!=-1
BEGIN
    DECLARE @command VARCHAR(100)
    SET @command=''
    SET @command=@command+'DROP PROCEDURE '+@ProcName
    --DROP PROCEDURE  @ProcName
    EXECUTE (@command)
    FETCH NEXT
    FROM DelAllProcedures
    INTO @ProcName
END
CLOSE DelAllProcedures
DEALLOCATE DelAllProcedures

How to select the first, second, or third element with a given class name?

Yes, you can do this. For example, to style the td tags that make up the different columns of a table you could do something like this:

table.myClass tr > td:first-child /* First column */
{
  /* some style here */
}
table.myClass tr > td:first-child+td /* Second column */
{
  /* some style here */
}
table.myClass tr > td:first-child+td+td /* Third column */
{
  /* some style here */
}

SQLAlchemy create_all() does not create tables

You should put your model class before create_all() call, like this:

from flask import Flask
from flask_sqlalchemy import SQLAlchemy

app = Flask(__name__)

app.config['SQLALCHEMY_DATABASE_URI'] = 'postgresql+psycopg2://login:pass@localhost/flask_app'
db = SQLAlchemy(app)

class User(db.Model):
    id = db.Column(db.Integer, primary_key=True)
    username = db.Column(db.String(80), unique=True)
    email = db.Column(db.String(120), unique=True)

    def __init__(self, username, email):
        self.username = username
        self.email = email

    def __repr__(self):
        return '<User %r>' % self.username

db.create_all()
db.session.commit()

admin = User('admin', '[email protected]')
guest = User('guest', '[email protected]')
db.session.add(admin)
db.session.add(guest)
db.session.commit()
users = User.query.all()
print users

If your models are declared in a separate module, import them before calling create_all().

Say, the User model is in a file called models.py,

from flask import Flask
from flask_sqlalchemy import SQLAlchemy

app = Flask(__name__)

app.config['SQLALCHEMY_DATABASE_URI'] = 'postgresql+psycopg2://login:pass@localhost/flask_app'
db = SQLAlchemy(app)

# See important note below
from models import User

db.create_all()
db.session.commit()

admin = User('admin', '[email protected]')
guest = User('guest', '[email protected]')
db.session.add(admin)
db.session.add(guest)
db.session.commit()
users = User.query.all()
print users

Important note: It is important that you import your models after initializing the db object since, in your models.py _you also need to import the db object from this module.

Multiple controllers with AngularJS in single page app

I just put one simple declaration of the app

var app = angular.module("app", ["xeditable"]);

Then I built one service and two controllers

For each controller I had a line in the JS

app.controller('EditableRowCtrl', function ($scope, CRUD_OperService) {

And in the HTML I declared the app scope in a surrounding div

<div ng-app="app">

and each controller scope separately in their own surrounding div (within the app div)

<div ng-controller="EditableRowCtrl">

This worked fine

How can I access and process nested objects, arrays or JSON?

In 2020, you can use @babel/plugin-proposal-optional-chaining it is very easy to access nested values in an object.

 const obj = {
 foo: {
   bar: {
     baz: class {
   },
  },
 },
};

const baz = new obj?.foo?.bar?.baz(); // baz instance

const safe = new obj?.qux?.baz(); // undefined
const safe2 = new obj?.foo.bar.qux?.(); // undefined

Windows 7 SDK installation failure

I'm having the same error as this "Windows 7 SDK installation failure":

Enter image description here

After finding out, I've got the solution.

It may also happen that the SDK installation runs through with a "success" message at the end, but nothing was actually installed. The only way to really find out whether the SDK was installed is to check the respective directory. C:Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1 or C:Files (x 86) SDKs\Windows\v7.1. If the subdirectory "v 7.1" was created and has some content, the SDK was installed. The solution for this problem is the same as for the issue with the error message: Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (see below).

Resolution: Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installations prior to Windows SDK installation.

Before the installation, I had the following Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable installations. Note that the x 64 version is updated.

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable x 64-Microsoft Corporation 10.0.40219 15.2 MB 10.0.40219
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable-x 86 10.0.30319 Microsoft Corporation 11.0 MB 10.0.30319

How to specify the current directory as path in VBA?

I thought I had misunderstood but I was right. In this scenario, it will be ActiveWorkbook.Path

But the main issue was not here. The problem was with these 2 lines of code

strFile = Dir(strPath & "*.csv")

Which should have written as

strFile = Dir(strPath & "\*.csv")

and

With .QueryTables.Add(Connection:="TEXT;" & strPath & strFile, _

Which should have written as

With .QueryTables.Add(Connection:="TEXT;" & strPath & "\" & strFile, _

How to flatten only some dimensions of a numpy array

A slight generalization to Alexander's answer - np.reshape can take -1 as an argument, meaning "total array size divided by product of all other listed dimensions":

e.g. to flatten all but the last dimension:

>>> arr = numpy.zeros((50,100,25))
>>> new_arr = arr.reshape(-1, arr.shape[-1])
>>> new_arr.shape
# (5000, 25)

How do I bind onchange event of a TextBox using JQuery?

What Chad says, except its better to use .keyup in this case because with .keydown and .keypress the value of the input is still the older value i.e. the newest key pressed would not be reflected if .val() is called.

This should probably be a comment on Chad's answer but I dont have privileges to comment yet.

When should an IllegalArgumentException be thrown?

When talking about "bad input", you should consider where the input is coming from.

Is the input entered by a user or another external system you don't control, you should expect the input to be invalid, and always validate it. It's perfectly ok to throw a checked exception in this case. Your application should 'recover' from this exception by providing an error message to the user.

If the input originates from your own system, e.g. your database, or some other parts of your application, you should be able to rely on it to be valid (it should have been validated before it got there). In this case it's perfectly ok to throw an unchecked exception like an IllegalArgumentException, which should not be caught (in general you should never catch unchecked exceptions). It is a programmer's error that the invalid value got there in the first place ;) You need to fix it.

how to add the missing RANDR extension

First off, Xvfb doesn't read configuration from xorg.conf. Xvfb is a variant of the KDrive X servers and like all members of that family gets its configuration from the command line.

It is true that XRandR and Xinerama are mutually exclusive, but in the case of Xvfb there's no Xinerama in the first place. You can enable the XRandR extension by starting Xvfb using at least the following command line options

Xvfb +extension RANDR [further options]

Running Node.Js on Android

You can use Node.js for Mobile Apps.

It works on Android devices and simulators, with pre-built binaries for armeabi-v7a, x86, arm64-v8a, x86_64. It also works on iOS, though that's outside the scope of this question.

Like JXcore, it is used to host a Node.js engine in the same process as the app, in a dedicated thread. Unlike JXcore, it is basically pure Node.js, built as a library, with a few portability fixes to run on Android. This means that it's much easier to keep the project up to date with mainline Node.js.

Plugins for Cordova and React Native are also available. The plugins provide a communication layer between the JavaScript side of those frameworks and the Node.js side. They also simplify development by taking care of a few things automatically, like packaging modules and cross-compiling native modules at build time.

Full disclosure: I work for the company that develops Node.js for Mobile Apps.

Activity, AppCompatActivity, FragmentActivity, and ActionBarActivity: When to Use Which?

There is a lot of confusion here, especially if you read outdated sources.

The basic one is Activity, which can show Fragments. You can use this combination if you're on Android version > 4.

However, there is also a support library which encompasses the other classes you mentioned: FragmentActivity, ActionBarActivity and AppCompat. Originally they were used to support fragments on Android versions < 4, but actually they're also used to backport functionality from newer versions of Android (material design for example).

The latest one is AppCompat, the other 2 are older. The strategy I use is to always use AppCompat, so that the app will be ready in case of backports from future versions of Android.

How to get an object's properties in JavaScript / jQuery?

Spotlight.js is a great library for iterating over the window object and other host objects looking for certain things.

// find all "length" properties
spotlight.byName('length');

// or find all "map" properties on jQuery
spotlight.byName('map', { 'object': jQuery, 'path': '$' });

// or all properties with `RegExp` values
spotlight.byKind('RegExp');

// or all properties containing "oo" in their name
spotlight.custom(function(value, key) { return key.indexOf('oo') > -1; });

You'll like it for this.

How to define unidirectional OneToMany relationship in JPA

My bible for JPA work is the Java Persistence wikibook. It has a section on unidirectional OneToMany which explains how to do this with a @JoinColumn annotation. In your case, i think you would want:

@OneToMany
@JoinColumn(name="TXTHEAD_CODE")
private Set<Text> text;

I've used a Set rather than a List, because the data itself is not ordered.

The above is using a defaulted referencedColumnName, unlike the example in the wikibook. If that doesn't work, try an explicit one:

@OneToMany
@JoinColumn(name="TXTHEAD_CODE", referencedColumnName="DATREG_META_CODE")
private Set<Text> text;

How do I add my new User Control to the Toolbox or a new Winform?

Assuming I understand what you mean:

  1. If your UserControl is in a library you can add this to you Toolbox using

    Toolbox -> right click -> Choose Items -> Browse

    Select your assembly with the UserControl.

  2. If the UserControl is part of your project you only need to build the entire solution. After that, your UserControl should appear in the toolbox.

In general, it is not possible to add a Control from Solution Explorer, only from the Toolbox.

How do I check particular attributes exist or not in XML?

Another way to handle the situation is exception handling.

Every time a non-existent value is called, your code will recover from the exception and just continue with the loop. In the catch-block you can handle the error the same way you write it down in your else-statement when the expression (... != null) returns false. Of course throwing and handling exceptions is a relatively costly operation which might not be ideal depending on the performance requirements.

MySQL Error 1093 - Can't specify target table for update in FROM clause

For the specific query the OP is trying to achieve, the ideal and most efficient way to do this is NOT to use a subquery at all.

Here are the LEFT JOIN versions of the OP's two queries:

SELECT s.*
FROM story_category s
LEFT JOIN category c
ON c.id=s.category_id
WHERE c.id IS NULL;

Note: DELETE s restricts delete operations to the story_category table.

Route.get() requires callback functions but got a "object Undefined"

This thing also happened with my code, but somehow I solved my problem. I checked my routes folder (where my all endpoints are their). I would recommend you check your routes folder file and check whether you forgot to add your particular router link.

What are .dex files in Android?

.dex file

Compiled Android application code file.

Android programs are compiled into .dex (Dalvik Executable) files, which are in turn zipped into a single .apk file on the device. .dex files can be created automatically by Android, by translating the compiled applications written in the Java programming language.

Webclient / HttpWebRequest with Basic Authentication returns 404 not found for valid URL

If its working when you are using a browser and then passing on your username and password for the first time - then this means that once authentication is done Request header of your browser is set with required authentication values, which is then passed on each time a request is made to hosting server.

So start with inspecting Request Header (this could be done using Web Developers tools), Once you established whats required in header then you could pass this within your HttpWebRequest Header.

Example with Digest Authentication:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Security.Cryptography;
using System.Text.RegularExpressions;
using System.Net;
using System.IO;

namespace NUI
{
    public class DigestAuthFixer
    {
        private static string _host;
        private static string _user;
        private static string _password;
        private static string _realm;
        private static string _nonce;
        private static string _qop;
        private static string _cnonce;
        private static DateTime _cnonceDate;
        private static int _nc;

public DigestAuthFixer(string host, string user, string password)
{
    // TODO: Complete member initialization
    _host = host;
    _user = user;
    _password = password;
}

private string CalculateMd5Hash(
    string input)
{
    var inputBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(input);
    var hash = MD5.Create().ComputeHash(inputBytes);
    var sb = new StringBuilder();
    foreach (var b in hash)
        sb.Append(b.ToString("x2"));
    return sb.ToString();
}

private string GrabHeaderVar(
    string varName,
    string header)
{
    var regHeader = new Regex(string.Format(@"{0}=""([^""]*)""", varName));
    var matchHeader = regHeader.Match(header);
    if (matchHeader.Success)
        return matchHeader.Groups[1].Value;
    throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("Header {0} not found", varName));
}

private string GetDigestHeader(
    string dir)
{
    _nc = _nc + 1;

    var ha1 = CalculateMd5Hash(string.Format("{0}:{1}:{2}", _user, _realm, _password));
    var ha2 = CalculateMd5Hash(string.Format("{0}:{1}", "GET", dir));
    var digestResponse =
        CalculateMd5Hash(string.Format("{0}:{1}:{2:00000000}:{3}:{4}:{5}", ha1, _nonce, _nc, _cnonce, _qop, ha2));

    return string.Format("Digest username=\"{0}\", realm=\"{1}\", nonce=\"{2}\", uri=\"{3}\", " +
        "algorithm=MD5, response=\"{4}\", qop={5}, nc={6:00000000}, cnonce=\"{7}\"",
        _user, _realm, _nonce, dir, digestResponse, _qop, _nc, _cnonce);
}

public string GrabResponse(
    string dir)
{
    var url = _host + dir;
    var uri = new Uri(url);

    var request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(uri);

    // If we've got a recent Auth header, re-use it!
    if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(_cnonce) &&
        DateTime.Now.Subtract(_cnonceDate).TotalHours < 1.0)
    {
        request.Headers.Add("Authorization", GetDigestHeader(dir));
    }

    HttpWebResponse response;
    try
    {
        response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse();
    }
    catch (WebException ex)
    {
        // Try to fix a 401 exception by adding a Authorization header
        if (ex.Response == null || ((HttpWebResponse)ex.Response).StatusCode != HttpStatusCode.Unauthorized)
            throw;

        var wwwAuthenticateHeader = ex.Response.Headers["WWW-Authenticate"];
        _realm = GrabHeaderVar("realm", wwwAuthenticateHeader);
        _nonce = GrabHeaderVar("nonce", wwwAuthenticateHeader);
        _qop = GrabHeaderVar("qop", wwwAuthenticateHeader);

        _nc = 0;
        _cnonce = new Random().Next(123400, 9999999).ToString();
        _cnonceDate = DateTime.Now;

        var request2 = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(uri);
        request2.Headers.Add("Authorization", GetDigestHeader(dir));
        response = (HttpWebResponse)request2.GetResponse();
    }
    var reader = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream());
    return reader.ReadToEnd();
}

}

Then you could call it:

DigestAuthFixer digest = new DigestAuthFixer(domain, username, password);
string strReturn = digest.GrabResponse(dir);

if Url is: http://xyz.rss.com/folder/rss then domain: http://xyz.rss.com (domain part) dir: /folder/rss (rest of the url)

you could also return it as stream and use XmlDocument Load() method.

IIS_IUSRS and IUSR permissions in IIS8

@EvilDr You can create an IUSR_[identifier] account within your AD environment and let the particular application pool run under that IUSR_[identifier] account:

"Application pool" > "Advanced Settings" > "Identity" > "Custom account"

Set your website to "Applicaton user (pass-through authentication)" and not "Specific user", in the Advanced Settings.

Now give that IUSR_[identifier] the appropriate NTFS permissions on files and folders, for example: modify on companydata.

Can I get the name of the currently running function in JavaScript?

Here is a one liner:

    arguments.callee.toString().split('\n')[0].substr('function '.length).replace(/\(.*/, "").replace('\r', '')

Like this:

    function logChanges() {
      let whoami = arguments.callee.toString().split('\n')[0].substr('function '.length).replace(/\(.*/, "").replace('\r', '');
      console.log(whoami + ': just getting started.');
    }

How to check whether input value is integer or float?

You can use RoundingMode.#UNNECESSARY if you want/accept exception thrown otherwise

new BigDecimal(value).setScale(2, RoundingMode.UNNECESSARY);

If this rounding mode is specified on an operation that yields an inexact result, an ArithmeticException is thrown.

Exception if not integer value:

java.lang.ArithmeticException: Rounding necessary

HTTP get with headers using RestTemplate

Take a look at the JavaDoc for RestTemplate.

There is the corresponding getForObject methods that are the HTTP GET equivalents of postForObject, but they doesn't appear to fulfil your requirements of "GET with headers", as there is no way to specify headers on any of the calls.

Looking at the JavaDoc, no method that is HTTP GET specific allows you to also provide header information. There are alternatives though, one of which you have found and are using. The exchange methods allow you to provide an HttpEntity object representing the details of the request (including headers). The execute methods allow you to specify a RequestCallback from which you can add the headers upon its invocation.

What is the right way to populate a DropDownList from a database?

You could bind the DropDownList to a data source (DataTable, List, DataSet, SqlDataSource, etc).

For example, if you wanted to use a DataTable:

ddlSubject.DataSource = subjectsTable;
ddlSubject.DataTextField = "SubjectNamne";
ddlSubject.DataValueField = "SubjectID";
ddlSubject.DataBind();

EDIT - More complete example

private void LoadSubjects()
{

    DataTable subjects = new DataTable();

    using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(connectionString))
    {

        try
        {
            SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter("SELECT SubjectID, SubjectName FROM Students.dbo.Subjects", con);
            adapter.Fill(subjects);

            ddlSubject.DataSource = subjects;
            ddlSubject.DataTextField = "SubjectNamne";
            ddlSubject.DataValueField = "SubjectID";
            ddlSubject.DataBind();
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            // Handle the error
        }

    }

    // Add the initial item - you can add this even if the options from the
    // db were not successfully loaded
    ddlSubject.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("<Select Subject>", "0"));

}

To set an initial value via the markup, rather than code-behind, specify the option(s) and set the AppendDataBoundItems attribute to true:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlSubject" runat="server" AppendDataBoundItems="true">
    <asp:ListItem Text="<Select Subject>" Value="0" />
</asp:DropDownList>

You could then bind the DropDownList to a DataSource in the code-behind (just remember to remove:

ddlSubject.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("<Select Subject>", "0"));

from the code-behind, or you'll have two "" items.

Formatting html email for Outlook

You should definitely check out the MSDN on what Outlook will support in regards to css and html. The link is here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa338201(v=office.12).aspx. If you do not have at least office 2007 you really need to upgrade as there are major differences between 2007 and previous editions. Also try saving the resulting email to file and examine it with firefox you will see what is being changed by outlook and possibly have a more specific question to ask. You can use Word to view the email as a sort of preview as well (but you won't get info on what styles are/are not being applied.

How to wait until an element is present in Selenium?

Let me recommend you using Selenide library. It allows writing much more concise and readable tests. It can wait for presence of elements with much shorter syntax:

$("#elementId").shouldBe(visible);

Here is a sample project for testing Google search: https://github.com/selenide-examples/google

How do I do base64 encoding on iOS?

iOS has had built-in Base64 encoding and decoding methods (without using libresolv) since iOS 4. However, it was only declared in the iOS 7 SDK. Apple documentation states that you can use it when targeting iOS 4 and above.

NSData *myData = ... some data
NSString *base64String = [myData base64Encoding];
NSData *decodedData = [[NSData alloc] initWithBase64Encoding:base64String];

Even though JRE 8 is installed on my MAC -" No Java Runtime present,requesting to install " gets displayed in terminal

You have to install the full JDK, not only the JRE.

I had the same issue and solved by installing JDK.

Please use this link to download the latest JDK version 15.0.2.

If statement in aspx page

Normally you'd just stick the code in Page_Load in your .aspx page's code-behind.

if (someVar) {
    Item1.Visible = true;
    Item2.Visible = false;
} else {
    Item1.Visible = false;
    Item2.Visible = true;
}

This assumes you've got Item1 and Item2 laid out on the page already.

Remove whitespaces inside a string in javascript

Add Marker function with Google Maps API

You have added the add marker method call outside the function and that causes it to execute before the initialize method which will be called when google maps script loads and thus the marker is not added because map is not initialized Do as below.... Create separate method TestMarker and call it from initialize.

<script type="text/javascript">

    // Standard google maps function
    function initialize() {
        var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(40.779502, -73.967857);
        var myOptions = {
            zoom: 12,
            center: myLatlng,
            mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
        }
        map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions);
        TestMarker();
    }

    // Function for adding a marker to the page.
    function addMarker(location) {
        marker = new google.maps.Marker({
            position: location,
            map: map
        });
    }

    // Testing the addMarker function
    function TestMarker() {
           CentralPark = new google.maps.LatLng(37.7699298, -122.4469157);
           addMarker(CentralPark);
    }
</script>

Use RSA private key to generate public key?

openssl genrsa -out mykey.pem 1024

will actually produce a public - private key pair. The pair is stored in the generated mykey.pem file.

openssl rsa -in mykey.pem -pubout > mykey.pub

will extract the public key and print that out. Here is a link to a page that describes this better.

EDIT: Check the examples section here. To just output the public part of a private key:

openssl rsa -in key.pem -pubout -out pubkey.pem

To get a usable public key for SSH purposes, use ssh-keygen:

ssh-keygen -y -f key.pem > key.pub

Simple Android grid example using RecyclerView with GridLayoutManager (like the old GridView)

You should set your RecyclerView LayoutManager to Gridlayout mode. Just change your code when you want to set your RecyclerView LayoutManager:

recyclerView.setLayoutManager(new GridLayoutManager(getActivity(), numberOfColumns));

Add and remove attribute with jquery

If you want to do this, you need to save it in a variable first. So you don't need to use id to query this element every time.

var el = $("#page_navigation1");

$("#add").click(function(){
  el.attr("id","page_navigation1");
});

$("#remove").click(function(){
  el.removeAttr("id");
});

How can I count all the lines of code in a directory recursively?

It’s very easy with Z shell (zsh) globs:

If you are using Bash, you just need to upgrade. There is absolutely no reason to use Bash.

How can I use JSON data to populate the options of a select box?

Why not just make the server return the names?

["Woodland Hills", "none", "Los Angeles", "Laguna Hills"]

Then create the <option> elements using JavaScript.

$.ajax({

    type:'POST',
    data: 'q=' + str,
    dataType: 'json',
    success: function( json ) {
        $.each(json, function(i, value) {
            $('#myselect').append($('<option>').text(value).attr('value', value));
        });
    }
});

UIView bottom border?

extension UIView {

 func addBottomLine(color: UIColor, height: CGFloat) {

   let bottomView = UIView(frame: CGRect(x: 0, y: self.frame.height - 1, width: self.frame.width, height: height))
    bottomView.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false
    bottomView.autoresizingMask = .flexibleWidth
    bottomView.backgroundColor = color
    self.addSubview(bottomView)
 }

}

Format specifier %02x

You are actually getting the correct value out.

The way your x86 (compatible) processor stores data like this, is in Little Endian order, meaning that, the MSB is last in your output.

So, given your output:

10101010

the last two hex values 10 are the Most Significant Byte (2 hex digits = 1 byte = 8 bits (for (possibly unnecessary) clarification).

So, by reversing the memory storage order of the bytes, your value is actually: 01010101.

Hope that clears it up!

Where's the IE7/8/9/10-emulator in IE11 dev tools?

I posted an answer to this already when someone else asked the same question (see How to bring back "Browser mode" in IE11?).

Read my answer there for a fuller explaination, but in short:

  • They removed it deliberately, because compat mode is not actually really very good for testing compatibility.

  • If you really want to test for compatibility with any given version of IE, you need to test in a real copy of that IE version. MS provide free VMs on http://modern.ie/ for you to use for this purpose.

  • The only way to get compat mode in IE11 is to set the X-UA-Compatible header. When you have this and the site defaults to compat mode, you will be able to set the mode in dev tools, but only between edge or the specified compat mode; other modes will still not be available.

How to loop through a JSON object with typescript (Angular2)

Assuming your json object from your GET request looks like the one you posted above simply do:

Or am I missing something that prevents you from doing it this way?

Quoting backslashes in Python string literals

Another way to end a string with a backslash is to end the string with a backslash followed by a space, and then call the .strip() function on the string.

I was trying to concatenate two string variables and have them separated by a backslash, so i used the following:

newString = string1 + "\ ".strip() + string2

How do I pass named parameters with Invoke-Command?

I needed something to call scripts with named parameters. We have a policy of not using ordinal positioning of parameters and requiring the parameter name.

My approach is similar to the ones above but gets the content of the script file that you want to call and sends a parameter block containing the parameters and values.

One of the advantages of this is that you can optionally choose which parameters to send to the script file allowing for non-mandatory parameters with defaults.

Assuming there is a script called "MyScript.ps1" in the temporary path that has the following parameter block:

[CmdletBinding(PositionalBinding = $False)]
param
(
    [Parameter(Mandatory = $True)] [String] $MyNamedParameter1,
    [Parameter(Mandatory = $True)] [String] $MyNamedParameter2,
    [Parameter(Mandatory = $False)] [String] $MyNamedParameter3 = "some default value"
)

This is how I would call this script from another script:

$params = @{
    MyNamedParameter1 = $SomeValue
    MyNamedParameter2 = $SomeOtherValue
}

If ($SomeCondition)
{
    $params['MyNamedParameter3'] = $YetAnotherValue
}

$pathToScript = Join-Path -Path $env:Temp -ChildPath MyScript.ps1

$sb = [scriptblock]::create(".{$(Get-Content -Path $pathToScript -Raw)} $(&{
        $args
} @params)")
Invoke-Command -ScriptBlock $sb

I have used this in lots of scenarios and it works really well. One thing that you occasionally need to do is put quotes around the parameter value assignment block. This is always the case when there are spaces in the value.

e.g. This param block is used to call a script that copies various modules into the standard location used by PowerShell C:\Program Files\WindowsPowerShell\Modules which contains a space character.

$params = @{
        SourcePath      = "$WorkingDirectory\Modules"
        DestinationPath = "'$(Join-Path -Path $([System.Environment]::GetFolderPath('ProgramFiles')) -ChildPath 'WindowsPowershell\Modules')'"
    }

Hope this helps!

Installing pip packages to $HOME folder

You can specify the -t option (--target) to specify the destination directory. See pip install --help for detailed information. This is the command you need:

pip install -t /home/foivos/ mxnet

Verify External Script Is Loaded

Create the script tag with a specific ID and then check if that ID exists?

Alternatively, loop through script tags checking for the script 'src' and make sure those are not already loaded with the same value as the one you want to avoid ?

Edit: following feedback that a code example would be useful:

(function(){
    var desiredSource = 'https://sitename.com/js/script.js';
    var scripts       = document.getElementsByTagName('script');
    var alreadyLoaded = false;

    if(scripts.length){
        for(var scriptIndex in scripts) {
            if(!alreadyLoaded && desiredSource === scripts[scriptIndex].src) {
                alreadyLoaded = true;
            }
        }
    }
    if(!alreadyLoaded){
        // Run your code in this block?
    }
})();

As mentioned in the comments (https://stackoverflow.com/users/1358777/alwin-kesler), this may be an alternative (not benchmarked):

(function(){
    var desiredSource = 'https://sitename.com/js/script.js';
    var scripts = document.getElementsByTagName('script');
    var alreadyLoaded = false;

    for(var scriptIndex in document.scripts) {
        if(!alreadyLoaded && desiredSource === scripts[scriptIndex].src) {
            alreadyLoaded = true;
        }
    }
    if(!alreadyLoaded){
        // Run your code in this block?
    }
})();

SVG rounded corner

As referenced in my answer to Applying rounded corners to paths/polygons, I have written a routine in javascript for generically rounding corners of SVG paths, with examples, here: http://plnkr.co/edit/kGnGGyoOCKil02k04snu.

It will work independently from any stroke effects you may have. To use, include the rounding.js file from the Plnkr and call the function like so:

roundPathCorners(pathString, radius, useFractionalRadius)

The result will be the rounded path.

The results look like this:

SVG Path Rounding Examples

End Sub

Call Activity method from adapter

In Kotlin there is now a cleaner way by using lambda functions, no need for interfaces:

class MyAdapter(val adapterOnClick: (Any) -> Unit) {

    }
}

class MyActivity {
    override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
        var myAdapter = MyAdapter { item -> doOnClick(item) }
    }

    fun doOnClick(item: Any) {

    }
}

How to make MySQL table primary key auto increment with some prefix

Create a table with a normal numeric auto_increment ID, but either define it with ZEROFILL, or use LPAD to add zeroes when selecting. Then CONCAT the values to get your intended behavior. Example #1:

create table so (
 id int(3) unsigned zerofill not null auto_increment primary key,
 name varchar(30) not null
);

insert into so set name = 'John';
insert into so set name = 'Mark';

select concat('LHPL', id) as id, name from so;
+---------+------+
| id      | name |
+---------+------+
| LHPL001 | John |
| LHPL002 | Mark |
+---------+------+

Example #2:

create table so (
 id int unsigned not null auto_increment primary key,
 name varchar(30) not null
);

insert into so set name = 'John';
insert into so set name = 'Mark';

select concat('LHPL', LPAD(id, 3, 0)) as id, name from so;
+---------+------+
| id      | name |
+---------+------+
| LHPL001 | John |
| LHPL002 | Mark |
+---------+------+

Angular 2: import external js file into component

You can also try this:

import * as drawGauge from '../../../../js/d3gauge.js';

and just new drawGauge(this.opt); in your ts-code. This solution works in project with angular-cli embedded into laravel on which I currently working on. In my case I try to import poliglot library (btw: very good for translations) from node_modules:

import * as Polyglot from '../../../node_modules/node-polyglot/build/polyglot.min.js';
...
export class Lang
{
    constructor() {

        this.polyglot = new Polyglot({ locale: 'en' });
        ...
    }
    ...
}

This solution is good because i don't need to COPY any files from node_modules :) .

Get data from fs.readFile

This line will work,

const content = fs.readFileSync('./Index.html', 'utf8');
console.log(content);

UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xef in position 1

In my case, it was caused by my Unicode file being saved with a "BOM". To solve this, I cracked open the file using BBEdit and did a "Save as..." choosing for encoding "Unicode (UTF-8)" and not what it came with which was "Unicode (UTF-8, with BOM)"

how to make log4j to write to the console as well

Your root logger definition is a bit confused. See the log4j documentation.

This is a standard Java properties file, which means that lines are treated as key=value pairs. Your second log4j.rootLogger line is overwriting the first, which explains why you aren't seeing anything on the console appender.

You need to merge your two rootLogger definitions into one. It looks like you're trying to have DEBUG messages go to the console and INFO messages to the file. The root logger can only have one level, so you need to change your configuration so that the appenders have appropriate levels.

While I haven't verified that this is correct, I'd guess it'll look something like this:

log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG,console,file
log4j.appender.console=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
log4j.appender.file=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender

Note that you also have an error in casing - you have console lowercase in one place and in CAPS in another.

Resync git repo with new .gitignore file

I might misunderstand, but are you trying to delete files newly ignored or do you want to ignore new modifications to these files ? In this case, the thing is working.

If you want to delete ignored files previously commited, then use

How to calculate moving average without keeping the count and data-total?

The answer of Flip is computationally more consistent than the Muis one.

Using double number format, you could see the roundoff problem in the Muis approach:

The Muis approach

When you divide and subtract, a roundoff appears in the previous stored value, changing it.

However, the Flip approach preserves the stored value and reduces the number of divisions, hence, reducing the roundoff, and minimizing the error propagated to the stored value. Adding only will bring up roundoffs if there is something to add (when N is big, there is nothing to add)

The Flip approach

Those changes are remarkable when you make a mean of big values tend their mean to zero.

I show you the results using a spreadsheet program:

Firstly, the results obtained: Results

The A and B columns are the n and X_n values, respectively.

The C column is the Flip approach, and the D one is the Muis approach, the result stored in the mean. The E column corresponds with the medium value used in the computation.

A graph showing the mean of even values is the next one:

Graph

As you can see, there is big differences between both approachs.

Parsing JSON array into java.util.List with Gson

Given you start with mapping.get("servers").getAsJsonArray(), if you have access to Guava Streams, you can do the below one-liner:

List<String> servers = Streams.stream(jsonArray.iterator())
                              .map(je -> je.getAsString())
                              .collect(Collectors.toList());

Note StreamSupport won't be able to work on JsonElement type, so it is insufficient.

How do I install opencv using pip?

Copy or rsync command

Especially if you use a copy-on-write filesystem like BTRFS or ZFS, rsync is much better.

I use BTRFS, and I have this in my ~/.bashrc:

alias cp="rsync -ah --inplace --no-whole-file --info=progress2"

The important flag here for CoW FSs like BTRFS is --inplace because it only copies the changed part of the files, doesn't create new for small changes between files inodes, etc. See this.

How to update (append to) an href in jquery?

jQuery 1.4 has a new feature for doing this, and it rules. I've forgotten what it's called, but you use it like this:

$("a.directions-link").attr("href", function(i, href) {
  return href + '?q=testing';
});

That loops over all the elements too, so no need for $.each

document.createElement("script") synchronously

You can create your <script> element with an "onload" handler, and that will be called when the script has been loaded and evaluated by the browser.

var script = document.createElement('script');
script.onload = function() {
  alert("Script loaded and ready");
};
script.src = "http://whatever.com/the/script.js";
document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script);

You can't do it synchronously.

edit — it's been pointed out that, true to form, IE doesn't fire a "load" event on <script> tags being loaded/evaluated. Thus I suppose the next thing to do would be to fetch the script with an XMLHttpRequest and then eval() it yourself. (Or, I suppose, stuff the text into a <script> tag you add; the execution environment of eval() is affected by the local scope, so it won't necessarily do what you want it to do.)

editAs of early 2013, I'd strongly advise looking into a more robust script loading tool like Requirejs. There are a lot of special cases to worry about. For really simple situations, there's yepnope, which is now built into Modernizr.

Swift: Determine iOS Screen size

In Swift 3.0

let screenSize = UIScreen.main.bounds
let screenWidth = screenSize.width
let screenHeight = screenSize.height

In older swift: Do something like this:

let screenSize: CGRect = UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds

then you can access the width and height like this:

let screenWidth = screenSize.width
let screenHeight = screenSize.height

if you want 75% of your screen's width you can go:

let screenWidth = screenSize.width * 0.75

Swift 4.0

// Screen width.
public var screenWidth: CGFloat {
    return UIScreen.main.bounds.width
}

// Screen height.
public var screenHeight: CGFloat {
    return UIScreen.main.bounds.height
}

In Swift 5.0

let screenSize: CGRect = UIScreen.main.bounds

missing private key in the distribution certificate on keychain

As long as you still have access to the mac which was used to generate the original distribution certificate it's very simple.

Just use that mac's Keychain Access application to export both the certificate and the private key. Select both using shift or command and right click to export to a .p12 file.

Attached a screenshot to make it very clear.

On your mac, import that .p12 file and you are good to go (just make sure you have a valid provisioning profile).

Just choose export

<button> background image

Astonishing that no answer addresses or mentions the actual problem here.

The CSS selector button #rock says "give me an element with the id rock inside a <button> element", like this:

<button>
    <span id="rock">This element is going to be affected.</span>
</button>

But what you wanted is a <button> element with the id rock. And the selector for that would be button#rock (note the missing space between button and #rock).

And as @Greg already mentioned: #rock is already specific enough to target the button and could be used on its own.

How to drop a database with Mongoose?

Mongoose will create a database if one does not already exist on connection, so once you make the connection, you can just query it to see if there is anything in it.

You can drop any database you are connected to:

var mongoose = require('mongoose');
/* Connect to the DB */
mongoose.connect('mongodb://localhost/mydatabase',function(){
    /* Drop the DB */
    mongoose.connection.db.dropDatabase();
});

static and extern global variables in C and C++

Global variables are not extern nor static by default on C and C++. When you declare a variable as static, you are restricting it to the current source file. If you declare it as extern, you are saying that the variable exists, but are defined somewhere else, and if you don't have it defined elsewhere (without the extern keyword) you will get a link error (symbol not found).

Your code will break when you have more source files including that header, on link time you will have multiple references to varGlobal. If you declare it as static, then it will work with multiple sources (I mean, it will compile and link), but each source will have its own varGlobal.

What you can do in C++, that you can't in C, is to declare the variable as const on the header, like this:

const int varGlobal = 7;

And include in multiple sources, without breaking things at link time. The idea is to replace the old C style #define for constants.

If you need a global variable visible on multiple sources and not const, declare it as extern on the header, and then define it, this time without the extern keyword, on a source file:

Header included by multiple files:

extern int varGlobal;

In one of your source files:

int varGlobal = 7;

Left join only selected columns in R with the merge() function

Nothing elegant but this could be another satisfactory answer.

merge(x = DF1, y = DF2, by = "Client", all.x=TRUE)[,c("Client","LO","CON")]

This will be useful especially when you don't need the keys that were used to join the tables in your results.

Can I load a .NET assembly at runtime and instantiate a type knowing only the name?

Starting from Framework v4.5 you can use Activator.CreateInstanceFrom() to easily instantiate classes within assemblies. The following example shows how to use it and how to call a method passing parameters and getting return value.

    // Assuming moduleFileName contains full or valid relative path to assembly
    var moduleInstance = Activator.CreateInstanceFrom(moduleFileName, "MyNamespace.MyClass");
    MethodInfo mi = moduleInstance.Unwrap().GetType().GetMethod("MyMethod");
    // Assuming the method returns a boolean and accepts a single string parameter
    bool rc = Convert.ToBoolean(mi.Invoke(moduleInstance.Unwrap(), new object[] { "MyParamValue" } ));

Authentication versus Authorization

I prefer Verification and Permissions to Authentication and Authorization.

It is easier in my head and in my code to think of "verification" and "permissions" because the two words

  • don't sound alike
  • don't have the same abbreviation

Authentication is verification and Authorization is checking permission(s). Auth can mean either, but is used more often as "User Auth" i.e. "User Authentication"

Load image from resources area of project in C#

Use below one. I have tested this with Windows form's Grid view cell.

Object rm = Properties.Resources.ResourceManager.GetObject("Resource_Image");
Bitmap myImage = (Bitmap)rm;
Image image = myImage;

Name of "Resource_Image", you can find from the project.

Under the project's name, you can find Properties. Expand it. There you can see Resources.resx file. Open it. Apply your file name as "Resource_Image".

Cannot find R.layout.activity_main

in 2019 I faced the same problem and I searched the internet and found the following which I am sharing with all.

In android studio letter R stands for the resources and this error occurs because of the build process not able to sync resources with your project. In other words, this error is caused when Android Studio can’t generate your R.java file correctly. This problem happens when you shift code to another system or while building the android project for the first time. So when you create a new activity or new class you will see an error message like “cannot resolve symbol r” with a red underline.

Below you can find the possible ways to fix cannot resolve symbol r in android studio.

Update Project Gradle To Latest Version Always use the latest version of Gradle to work android studio properly.

Sync Project With Gradle File Once you update the Gradle plugin you need to sync project with the Gradle file. Open android studio and click on Files > Sync Project with Gradle Files option.

Clean and Rebuild Project The most effective solution is the simplest: clean and rebuild your project. Select Build > Clean Project from the Android Studio toolbar, wait a few moments, and then build your project by selecting Build > Rebuild Project.

Invalidate Caches / Restart If you encounter this error after moving some files and directories around, then it’s possible that the R.layout error is being caused by a mismatch between Android Studio’s cache and your project’s current layout. If you suspect this may be the case, then select File > Invalidate Caches / Restart > Invalidate and Restart from Android Studio’s toolbar. Issues with the names of your resources can also prevent the R.java file from being created correctly, so check that you don't have multiple resources with the same name and that none of your file names contain invalid characters. Android Studio only supports lowercase a-z, 0-9, full stops and underscores, and a single invalid character can cause an R.layout error across your entire project, even if you don’t actually use this resource anywhere in your project!

My problem and its solution: In my case, I applied all the above but could not solve the problem. Thus I started a new project and pasted my code one by one and validated my code with running the app. Finally, at one point when I first deleted the code in colors.xml and copied and pasted code below in colors.xml file, I got the error.

<color name="bg_login">#26ae90</color>
<color name="bg_register">#2e3237</color>
<color name="bg_main">#428bca</color>
<color name="white">#ffffff</color>

<color name="btn_login_bg">#eceef1</color>
<color name="lbl_name">#333333</color>
<color name="btn_logut_bg">#ff6861</color>

when I undo my changes the error vanished again. Thus my code in colors.xml is not the code above and the code already in colors.xml i.e

<color name="colorPrimaryDark">#00574B</color>

How do I upgrade to Python 3.6 with conda?

In the past, I have found it quite difficult to try to upgrade in-place.

Note: my use-case for Anaconda is as an all-in-one Python environment. I don't bother with separate virtual environments. If you're using conda to create environments, this may be destructive because conda creates environments with hard-links inside your Anaconda/envs directory.

So if you use environments, you may first want to export your environments. After activating your environment, do something like:

conda env export > environment.yml

After backing up your environments (if necessary), you may remove your old Anaconda (it's very simple to uninstall Anaconda):

$ rm -rf ~/anaconda3/

and replace it by downloading the new Anaconda, e.g. Linux, 64 bit:

$ cd ~/Downloads
$ wget https://repo.continuum.io/archive/Anaconda3-4.3.0-Linux-x86_64.sh

(see here for a more recent one),

and then executing it:

$ bash Anaconda3-4.3.0-Linux-x86_64.sh

Accessing Object Memory Address

With ctypes, you can achieve the same thing with

>>> import ctypes
>>> a = (1,2,3)
>>> ctypes.addressof(a)

Documentation:

addressof(C instance) -> integer
Return the address of the C instance internal buffer

Note that in CPython, currently id(a) == ctypes.addressof(a), but ctypes.addressof should return the real address for each Python implementation, if

  • ctypes is supported
  • memory pointers are a valid notion.

How to automatically update an application without ClickOnce?

The most common way would be to put a simple text file (XML/JSON would be better) on your webserver with the last build version. The application will then download this file, check the version and start the updater. A typical file would look like this:

Application Update File (A unique string that will let your application recognize the file type)

version: 1.0.0 (Latest Assembly Version)

download: http://yourserver.com/... (A link to the download version)

redirect: http://yournewserver.com/... (I used this field in case of a change in the server address.)

This would let the client know that they need to be looking at a new address.

You can also add other important details.

How do I combine a background-image and CSS3 gradient on the same element?

For my responsive design, my drop-box down-arrow on the right side of the box (vertical accordion), accepted percentage as position. Initially the down-arrow was "position: absolute; right: 13px;". With the 97% positioning it worked like charm as follows:

> background: #ffffff;
> background-image: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png); /*fall back - IE */
> background-position: 97% center; /*fall back - IE */
> background-repeat: no-repeat; /*fall back - IE */
> background-image: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png)  no-repeat  97%  center;
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -moz-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff 1%, #eaeaea 100%);
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(1%,#ffffff), color-stop(100%,#eaeaea));
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff 1%,#eaeaea 100%);
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -o-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff 1%,#eaeaea 100%);<br />
> filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#ffffff', endColorstr='#eaeaea',GradientType=0 );

P.S. Sorry, don't know how to handle the filters.

Logger slf4j advantages of formatting with {} instead of string concatenation

I think from the author's point of view, the main reason is to reduce the overhead for string concatenation.I just read the logger's documentation, you could find following words:

/**
* <p>This form avoids superfluous string concatenation when the logger
* is disabled for the DEBUG level. However, this variant incurs the hidden
* (and relatively small) cost of creating an <code>Object[]</code> before
  invoking the method,
* even if this logger is disabled for DEBUG. The variants taking
* {@link #debug(String, Object) one} and {@link #debug(String, Object, Object) two}
* arguments exist solely in order to avoid this hidden cost.</p>
*/
*
 * @param format the format string
 * @param arguments a list of 3 or more arguments
 */

Python:Efficient way to check if dictionary is empty or not

This will do it:

while d:
    k, v = d.popitem()
    # now use k and v ...

A dictionary in boolean context is False if empty, True otherwise.

There is no "first" item in a dictionary, because dictionaries aren't ordered. But popitem will remove and return some item for you each time.

How can I compare two time strings in the format HH:MM:SS?

Try this code for the 24 hrs format of time.

var a="12:23:35";
var b="15:32:12";
var aa1=a.split(":");
var aa2=b.split(":");

var d1=new Date(parseInt("2001",10),(parseInt("01",10))-1,parseInt("01",10),parseInt(aa1[0],10),parseInt(aa1[1],10),parseInt(aa1[2],10));
var d2=new Date(parseInt("2001",10),(parseInt("01",10))-1,parseInt("01",10),parseInt(aa2[0],10),parseInt(aa2[1],10),parseInt(aa2[2],10));
var dd1=d1.valueOf();
var dd2=d2.valueOf();

if(dd1<dd2)
{alert("b is greater");}
else alert("a is greater");
}
</script>

fileReader.readAsBinaryString to upload files

The best way in browsers that support it, is to send the file as a Blob, or using FormData if you want a multipart form. You do not need a FileReader for that. This is both simpler and more efficient than trying to read the data.

If you specifically want to send it as multipart/form-data, you can use a FormData object:

var xmlHttpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
xmlHttpRequest.open("POST", '/pushfile', true);
var formData = new FormData();
// This should automatically set the file name and type.
formData.append("file", file);
// Sending FormData automatically sets the Content-Type header to multipart/form-data
xmlHttpRequest.send(formData);

You can also send the data directly, instead of using multipart/form-data. See the documentation. Of course, this will need a server-side change as well.

// file is an instance of File, e.g. from a file input.
var xmlHttpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
xmlHttpRequest.open("POST", '/pushfile', true);

xmlHttpRequest.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", file.type);

// Send the binary data.
// Since a File is a Blob, we can send it directly.
xmlHttpRequest.send(file);

For browser support, see: http://caniuse.com/#feat=xhr2 (most browsers, including IE 10+).

Titlecase all entries into a form_for text field

You don't want to take care of normalizing your data in a view - what if the user changes the data that gets submitted? Instead you could take care of it in the model using the before_save (or the before_validation) callback. Here's an example of the relevant code for a model like yours:

class Place < ActiveRecord::Base   before_save do |place|     place.city = place.city.downcase.titleize     place.country = place.country.downcase.titleize   end end

You can also check out the Ruby on Rails guide for more info.

To answer you question more directly, something like this would work:

<%= f.text_field :city, :value => (f.object.city ? f.object.city.titlecase : '') %>

This just means if f.object.city exists, display the titlecase version of it, and if it doesn't display a blank string.

Error: free(): invalid next size (fast):

If you are trying to allocate space for an array of pointers, such as

char** my_array_of_strings; // or some array of pointers such as int** or even void**

then you will need to consider word size (8 bytes in a 64-bit system, 4 bytes in a 32-bit system) when allocating space for n pointers. The size of a pointer is the same of your word size.

So while you may wish to allocate space for n pointers, you are actually going to need n times 8 or 4 (for 64-bit or 32-bit systems, respectively)

To avoid overflowing your allocated memory for n elements of 8 bytes:

my_array_of_strings = (char**) malloc( n * 8 );  // for 64-bit systems
my_array_of_strings = (char**) malloc( n * 4 );  // for 32-bit systems

This will return a block of n pointers, each consisting of 8 bytes (or 4 bytes if you're using a 32-bit system)

I have noticed that Linux will allow you to use all n pointers when you haven't compensated for word size, but when you try to free that memory it realizes its mistake and it gives out that rather nasty error. And it is a bad one, when you overflow allocated memory, many security issues lie in wait.

Update cordova plugins in one command

ionic state is deprecated as on [email protected]

If you happen to be using ionic and the ionic cli you can run:

ionic state reset

As long as all your plugin information was saved in your package.json earlier, this will essentially perform an rm/add for all your plugins. Just note that this will also rm/add your platforms as well, but that shouldn't matter.

This is also nice for when you ignore your plugin folders from your repo, and want to setup the project on another machine.

Obviously this doesn't directly answer the question, but many people are currently using both, and will end up here.

How do I set the request timeout for one controller action in an asp.net mvc application

I had to add "Current" using .NET 4.5:

HttpContext.Current.Server.ScriptTimeout = 300;

Warning about `$HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA` being deprecated

Unfortunately, this answer here by @EatOng is not correct. After reading his answer I added a dummy variable to every AJAX request I was firing (even if some of them already had some fields) just to be sure the error never appears.

But just now I came across the same damn error from PHP. I double-confirmed that I had sent some POST data (some other fields too along with the dummy variable). PHP version 5.6.25, always_populate_raw_post_data value is set to 0.

Also, as I am sending a application/json request, PHP is not populating it to $_POST, rather I have to json_decode() the raw POST request body, accessible by php://input.

As the answer by @rr- cites,

0/off/whatever: BC behavior (populate if content-type is not registered or request method is other than POST).

Because the request method is for sure POST, I guess PHP didn't recognize/like my Content-Type: application/json request (again, why??).

OPTION 1:

Edit the php.ini file manually and set the culprit variable to -1, as many of the answers here suggest.

OPTION 2:

This is a PHP 5.6 bug. Upgrade PHP.

OPTION 3:

As @user9541305 answered here, changing the Content-Type of AJAX request to application/x-www-form-urlencoded or multipart/form-data will make PHP populate the $_POST from the POSTed body (because PHP likes/recognizes those content-type headers!?).

OPTION 4: LAST RESORT

Well, I did not want to change the Content-Type of AJAX, it would cause a lot of trouble for debugging. (Chrome DevTools nicely views the POSTed variables of JSON requests.)

I am developing this thing for a client and cannot ask them to use latest PHP, nor to edit the php.ini file. As a last resort, I will just check if it is set to 0 and if so, edit the php.ini file in my PHP script itself. Of course I will have to ask the user to restart apache. What a shame!

Here is a sample code:

<?php

if(ini_get('always_populate_raw_post_data') != '-1')
{
    // Get the path to php.ini file
    $iniFilePath = php_ini_loaded_file();

    // Get the php.ini file content
    $iniContent = file_get_contents($iniFilePath);

    // Un-comment (if commented) always_populate_raw_post_data line, and set its value to -1
    $iniContent = preg_replace('~^\s*;?\s*always_populate_raw_post_data\s*=\s*.*$~im', 'always_populate_raw_post_data = -1', $iniContent);

    // Write the content back to the php.ini file
    file_put_contents($iniFilePath, $iniContent);

    // Exit the php script here
    // Also, write some response here to notify the user and ask to restart Apache / WAMP / Whatever.
    exit;
}

How to format Joda-Time DateTime to only mm/dd/yyyy?

Note that in JAVA SE 8 a new java.time (JSR-310) package was introduced. This replaces Joda time, Joda users are advised to migrate. For the JAVA SE = 8 way of formatting date and time, see below.

Joda time

Create a DateTimeFormatter using DateTimeFormat.forPattern(String)

Using Joda time you would do it like this:

String dateTime = "11/15/2013 08:00:00";
// Format for input
DateTimeFormatter dtf = DateTimeFormat.forPattern("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss");
// Parsing the date
DateTime jodatime = dtf.parseDateTime(dateTime);
// Format for output
DateTimeFormatter dtfOut = DateTimeFormat.forPattern("MM/dd/yyyy");
// Printing the date
System.out.println(dtfOut.print(jodatime));

Standard Java = 8

Java 8 introduced a new Date and Time library, making it easier to deal with dates and times. If you want to use standard Java version 8 or beyond, you would use a DateTimeFormatter. Since you don't have a time zone in your String, a java.time.LocalDateTime or a LocalDate, otherwise the time zoned varieties ZonedDateTime and ZonedDate could be used.

// Format for input
DateTimeFormatter inputFormat = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss");
// Parsing the date
LocalDate date = LocalDate.parse(dateTime, inputFormat);
// Format for output
DateTimeFormatter outputFormat = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("MM/dd/yyyy");
// Printing the date
System.out.println(date.format(outputFormat));

Standard Java < 8

Before Java 8, you would use the a SimpleDateFormat and java.util.Date

String dateTime = "11/15/2013 08:00:00";
// Format for input
SimpleDateFormat dateParser = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss");
// Parsing the date
Date date7 = dateParser.parse(dateTime);
// Format for output
SimpleDateFormat dateFormatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyy");
// Printing the date
System.out.println(dateFormatter.format(date7));

Change background color of edittext in android

one line of lazy code:

mEditText.getBackground().setColorFilter(Color.RED, PorterDuff.Mode.SRC_ATOP);

Change url query string value using jQuery

purls $.params() used without a parameter will give you a key-value object of the parameters.

jQuerys $.param() will build a querystring from the supplied object/array.

var params = parsedUrl.param();
delete params["page"];

var newUrl = "?page=" + $(this).val() + "&" + $.param(params);

Update
I've no idea why I used delete here...

var params = parsedUrl.param();
params["page"] = $(this).val();

var newUrl = "?" + $.param(params);

How to use TLS 1.2 in Java 6

I think that the solution of @Azimuts (https://stackoverflow.com/a/33375677/6503697) is for HTTP only connection. For FTPS connection you can use Bouncy Castle with org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPSClient without the need for rewrite FTPS protocol.

I have a program running on JRE 1.6.0_04 and I can not update the JRE.

The program has to connect to an FTPS server that work only with TLS 1.2 (IIS server).

I struggled for days and finally I have understood that there are few versions of bouncy castle library right in my use case: bctls-jdk15on-1.60.jar and bcprov-jdk15on-1.60.jar are ok, but 1.64 versions are not.

The version of apache commons-net is 3.1 .

Following is a small snippet of code that should work:

import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
import java.security.SecureRandom;
import java.security.Security;

import javax.net.ssl.SSLContext;
import javax.net.ssl.TrustManager;
import javax.net.ssl.X509TrustManager;

import org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP;
import org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPReply;
import org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPSClient;
import org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider;
import org.bouncycastle.jsse.provider.BouncyCastleJsseProvider;
import org.junit.Test;

public class FtpsTest {

// Create a trust manager that does not validate certificate chains
TrustManager[] trustAllCerts = new TrustManager[] { new X509TrustManager() {

    public java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] getAcceptedIssuers() {
        return null;
    }

    public void checkClientTrusted(java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) {
    }

    public void checkServerTrusted(java.security.cert.X509Certificate[] certs, String authType) {
    }
} };

@Test public void test() throws Exception {

    Security.insertProviderAt(new BouncyCastleProvider(), 1);
    Security.addProvider(new BouncyCastleJsseProvider());

    SSLContext sslContext = SSLContext.getInstance("TLS", new BouncyCastleJsseProvider());
    sslContext.init(null, trustAllCerts, new SecureRandom());
    org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPSClient ftpClient = new FTPSClient(sslContext);
    ByteArrayOutputStream out = null;
    try {

        ftpClient.connect("hostaname", 21);
        if (!FTPReply.isPositiveCompletion(ftpClient.getReplyCode())) {
            String msg = "Il server ftp ha rifiutato la connessione.";
            throw new Exception(msg);
        }
        if (!ftpClient.login("username", "pwd")) {
            String msg = "Il server ftp ha rifiutato il login con username:  username  e pwd:  password  .";
            ftpClient.disconnect();
            throw new Exception(msg);
        }

        ftpClient.enterLocalPassiveMode();
        ftpClient.setFileType(FTP.BINARY_FILE_TYPE);
        ftpClient.setDataTimeout(60000);
        ftpClient.execPBSZ(0); // Set protection buffer size
        ftpClient.execPROT("P"); // Set data channel protection to private
        int bufSize = 1024 * 1024; // 1MB
        ftpClient.setBufferSize(bufSize);
        out = new ByteArrayOutputStream(bufSize);
        ftpClient.retrieveFile("remoteFileName", out);
        out.toByteArray();
    }
    finally {
        if (out != null) {
            out.close();
        }

Adding a module (Specifically pymorph) to Spyder (Python IDE)

This is assuming a Conda Environment. At a high level, what worked for me was simply configuring my Conda path in Spyder. Here is how I did it:

First, determine the path your env exists at

  1. Create your environment

  2. In the Anaconda navigator, click to "environments" and then hit the play button on the environment you want to open.

  3. Click "Open with Python," you should get an interactive Python shell

  4. Type "import numpy" (choose any package)

  5. Type "numpy" and take a look at the path that looks like this:

C:\\Users\My Name\\.conda\\envs\\pytorch-three\\lib\\site-packages\\numpy\\__init__.py

The important part is the path all the way down to site-packages

For Spyder to be able to read your packages, do the following within Spyder.

  1. Open Spyder from anywhere

  2. Click "tools" and "preferences"

  3. In your Python Interpreter click "Use the following Python interpreter"

  4. From the path above, navigate to your environment and select the Python executable. For me it was here: C:\\Users\My Name\\.conda\\envs\\pytorch-three\\python.exe

  5. Finally, add the C:\\Users\\My Name\\.conda\\envs\\pytorch-three\\libs\\site-libs folder to the path (which will exist in your environment). This is easily done through the little Python icon with the tooltip of "add to path"

I personally didn't need to restart my IDE, but you may need to.

How to create empty constructor for data class in Kotlin Android

If you give default values to all the fields - empty constructor is generated automatically by Kotlin.

data class User(var id: Long = -1,
                var uniqueIdentifier: String? = null)

and you can simply call:

val user = User()

Different names of JSON property during serialization and deserialization

Annotating with @JsonAlias which got introduced with Jackson 2.9+, without mentioning @JsonProperty on the item to be deserialized with more than one alias(different names for a json property) works fine.

I used com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.JsonAlias for package consistency with com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper for my use-case.

For e.g.:

@Data
@Builder
public class Chair {

    @JsonAlias({"woodenChair", "steelChair"})
    private String entityType;

}

@Test
public void test1() {

   String str1 = "{\"woodenChair\":\"chair made of wood\"}";
   System.out.println( mapper.readValue(str1, Chair.class));
   String str2 = "{\"steelChair\":\"chair made of steel\"}";
   System.out.println( mapper.readValue(str2, Chair.class));

}

just works fine.

Exporting the values in List to excel

Determining type of an object in ruby

variable_name.class

Here variable name is "a" a.class

What does the "map" method do in Ruby?

The map method takes an enumerable object and a block, and runs the block for each element, outputting each returned value from the block (the original object is unchanged unless you use map!):

[1, 2, 3].map { |n| n * n } #=> [1, 4, 9]

Array and Range are enumerable types. map with a block returns an Array. map! mutates the original array.

Where is this helpful, and what is the difference between map! and each? Here is an example:

names = ['danil', 'edmund']

# here we map one array to another, convert each element by some rule
names.map! {|name| name.capitalize } # now names contains ['Danil', 'Edmund']

names.each { |name| puts name + ' is a programmer' } # here we just do something with each element

The output:

Danil is a programmer
Edmund is a programmer

Are there any Open Source alternatives to Crystal Reports?

So far based on my research JasperSoft has turned out promising open source reporting tool… Matter of fact I am currently working on a huge project wherein I have started converting and building reports using JasperReports/iReports…

Every reporting tool has its own learning curve. The support group from and for Jasper and the quality of response that I have gotten so far is good.

Again at the end of the day it all comes down to what your business / organization needs.

What are all the uses of an underscore in Scala?

From (my entry) in the FAQ, which I certainly do not guarantee to be complete (I added two entries just two days ago):

import scala._ // Wild card -- all of Scala is imported
import scala.{ Predef => _, _ } // Exception, everything except Predef
def f[M[_]] // Higher kinded type parameter
def f(m: M[_])    // Existential type
_ + _             // Anonymous function placeholder parameter
m _ // Eta expansion of method into method value
m(_)              // Partial function application
_ => 5            // Discarded parameter
case _ => // Wild card pattern -- matches anything
val (a, _) = (1, 2) // same thing
for (_ <- 1 to 10)  // same thing
f(xs: _*) // Sequence xs is passed as multiple parameters to f(ys: T*)
case Seq(xs @ _*) // Identifier xs is bound to the whole matched sequence
var i: Int = _ // Initialization to the default value
def abc_<>! // An underscore must separate alphanumerics from symbols on identifiers
t._2 // Part of a method name, such as tuple getters
1_000_000         // Numeric literal separator (Scala 2.13+)

This is also part of this question.

Most efficient way to get table row count

If it's only about getting the number of records (rows) I'd suggest using:

SELECT TABLE_ROWS
FROM information_schema.tables
WHERE table_name='the_table_you_want' -- Can end here if only 1 DB
  AND table_schema = DATABASE();      -- See comment below if > 1 DB

(at least for MySQL) instead.

How do I get the base URL with PHP?

$dir =  str_replace(basename($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME']), '',$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].$_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME']);
echo $url = $http . $dir;
// echo $url = $http . $_SERVER["SERVER_NAME"] . $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

(change) vs (ngModelChange) in angular

As I have found and wrote in another topic - this applies to angular < 7 (not sure how it is in 7+)

Just for the future

we need to observe that [(ngModel)]="hero.name" is just a short-cut that can be de-sugared to: [ngModel]="hero.name" (ngModelChange)="hero.name = $event".

So if we de-sugar code we would end up with:

<select (ngModelChange)="onModelChange()" [ngModel]="hero.name" (ngModelChange)="hero.name = $event">

or

<[ngModel]="hero.name" (ngModelChange)="hero.name = $event" select (ngModelChange)="onModelChange()">

If you inspect the above code you will notice that we end up with 2 ngModelChange events and those need to be executed in some order.

Summing up: If you place ngModelChange before ngModel, you get the $event as the new value, but your model object still holds previous value. If you place it after ngModel, the model will already have the new value.

Convert MySql DateTime stamp into JavaScript's Date format

To add to the excellent Andy E answer a function of common usage could be:

Date.createFromMysql = function(mysql_string)
{
   var t, result = null;

   if( typeof mysql_string === 'string' )
   {
      t = mysql_string.split(/[- :]/);

      //when t[3], t[4] and t[5] are missing they defaults to zero
      result = new Date(t[0], t[1] - 1, t[2], t[3] || 0, t[4] || 0, t[5] || 0);
   }

   return result;
}

In this way given a MySQL date/time in the form "YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS" or even the short form (only date) "YYYY-MM-DD" you can do:

var d1 = Date.createFromMysql("2011-02-20");
var d2 = Date.createFromMysql("2011-02-20 17:16:00");
alert("d1 year = " + d1.getFullYear());

how to bind img src in angular 2 in ngFor?

Angular 2, 4 and Angular 5 compatible!

You have provided so few details, so I'll try to answer your question without them.

You can use Interpolation:

<img src={{imagePath}} />

Or you can use a template expression:

<img [src]="imagePath" />

In a ngFor loop it might look like this:

<div *ngFor="let student of students">
   <img src={{student.ImagePath}} />
</div>

How to preventDefault on anchor tags?

        rewriteLinks: false,_x000D_
        requireBase: false_x000D_
    });_x000D_
}]);

'React' must be in scope when using JSX react/react-in-jsx-scope?

Add below setting to .eslintrc.js / .eslintrc.json to ignore these errors:

  rules: {
    // suppress errors for missing 'import React' in files
   "react/react-in-jsx-scope": "off",
    // allow jsx syntax in js files (for next.js project)
   "react/jsx-filename-extension": [1, { "extensions": [".js", ".jsx"] }], //should add ".ts" if typescript project
  }

Why? If you're using NEXT.js then you do not require to import React at top of files, nextjs does that for you.

"sed" command in bash

Here sed is replacing all occurrences of % with $ in its standard input.

As an example

$ echo 'foo%bar%' | sed -e 's,%,$,g'

will produce "foo$bar$".

Passing 'this' to an onclick event

Yeah first method will work on any element called from elsewhere since it will always take the target element irrespective of id.

Check if date is a valid one

Was able to find the solution. Since the date I am getting is in ISO format, only providing date to moment will validate it, no need to pass the dateFormat.

var date = moment("2016-10-19");

And then date.isValid() gives desired result.

Why is vertical-align:text-top; not working in CSS

You could apply position: relative; to the div and then position: absolute; top: 0; to a paragraph or span inside of it containing the text.

Read input from a JOptionPane.showInputDialog box

Your problem is that, if the user clicks cancel, operationType is null and thus throws a NullPointerException. I would suggest that you move

if (operationType.equalsIgnoreCase("Q"))

to the beginning of the group of if statements, and then change it to

if(operationType==null||operationType.equalsIgnoreCase("Q")).

This will make the program exit just as if the user had selected the quit option when the cancel button is pushed.

Then, change all the rest of the ifs to else ifs. This way, once the program sees whether or not the input is null, it doesn't try to call anything else on operationType. This has the added benefit of making it more efficient - once the program sees that the input is one of the options, it won't bother checking it against the rest of them.

Gaussian fit for Python

from scipy import asarray as ar,exp

def gaus(x,a,x0,sigma):
    return a*exp(-(x-x0)**2/(2*sigma**2))

popt,pcov = curve_fit(gaus,x,y)
#popt,pcov = curve_fit(gaus,x,y,p0=[1,mean,sigma])

plt.plot(x,y,'b+:',label='data')
plt.plot(x,gaus(x,*popt),'ro:',label='fit')
plt.legend()
plt.title('Fig. 3 - Fit for Time Constant')
plt.xlabel('Time (s)')
plt.ylabel('Voltage (V)')
plt.show()

works fine. This is simpler because making a guess is not trivial. I had more complex data and did not manage to do a proper first guess, but simply removing the first guess worked fine :)

P.S.: use numpy.exp() better, says a warning of scipy

Squash the first two commits in Git?

There is an easier way to do this. Let's assume you're on the master branch

Create a new orphaned branch which will remove all commit history:

$ git checkout --orphan new_branch

Add your initial commit message:

$ git commit -a

Get rid of the old unmerged master branch:

$ git branch -D master

Rename your current branch new_branch to master:

$ git branch -m master

       $pdf->Output($fileNL,'F');
       $pdf->Output($filename, 'S');

Adding system header search path to Xcode

How do I copy the contents of one ArrayList into another?

Lets try the example

     ArrayList<String> firstArrayList = new ArrayList<>();
            firstArrayList.add("One");
            firstArrayList.add("Two");
            firstArrayList.add("Three");
            firstArrayList.add("Four");
            firstArrayList.add("Five");
            firstArrayList.add("Six");
            //copy array list content into another array list
             ArrayList<String> secondArrayList=new ArrayList<>();
            secondArrayList.addAll(firstArrayList);
            //print all the content of array list
            Iterator itr = secondArrayList.iterator();
            while (itr.hasNext()) {
                System.out.println(itr.next());
            }

In print output as below

One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six

We can also do by using clone() method for which is used to create exact copy

for that try you can try as like

 **ArrayList<String>secondArrayList = (ArrayList<String>) firstArrayList.clone();**
    And then print by using iterator
      **Iterator itr = secondArrayList.iterator();
                while (itr.hasNext()) {
                    System.out.println(itr.next());
                }**

Java 8 lambdas, Function.identity() or t->t

As of the current JRE implementation, Function.identity() will always return the same instance while each occurrence of identifier -> identifier will not only create its own instance but even have a distinct implementation class. For more details, see here.

The reason is that the compiler generates a synthetic method holding the trivial body of that lambda expression (in the case of x->x, equivalent to return identifier;) and tell the runtime to create an implementation of the functional interface calling this method. So the runtime sees only different target methods and the current implementation does not analyze the methods to find out whether certain methods are equivalent.

So using Function.identity() instead of x -> x might save some memory but that shouldn’t drive your decision if you really think that x -> x is more readable than Function.identity().

You may also consider that when compiling with debug information enabled, the synthetic method will have a line debug attribute pointing to the source code line(s) holding the lambda expression, therefore you have a chance of finding the source of a particular Function instance while debugging. In contrast, when encountering the instance returned by Function.identity() during debugging an operation, you won’t know who has called that method and passed the instance to the operation.

What's the difference between including files with JSP include directive, JSP include action and using JSP Tag Files?

Overview of JSP Syntax Elements

First, to make things more clear, here is a short overview of JSP syntax elements:

  • Directives: These convey information regarding the JSP page as a whole.
  • Scripting elements: These are Java coding elements such as declarations, expressions, scriptlets, and comments.
  • Objects and scopes: JSP objects can be created either explicitly or implicitly and are accessible within a given scope, such as from anywhere in the JSP page or the session.
  • Actions: These create objects or affect the output stream in the JSP response (or both).

How content is included in JSP

There are several mechanisms for reusing content in a JSP file.

The following 4 mechanisms to include content in JSP can be categorized as direct reuse:
(for the first 3 mechanisms quoting from "Head First Servlets and JSP")

1) The include directive:

<%@ include file="header.html" %>

Static: adds the content from the value of the file attribute to the current page at translation time. The directive was originally intended for static layout templates, like HTML headers.

2) The <jsp:include> standard action:

<jsp:include page="header.jsp" />

Dynamic: adds the content from the value of the page attribute to the current page at request time. Was intended more for dynamic content coming from JSPs.

3) The <c:import> JSTL tag:

<c:import url=”http://www.example.com/foo/bar.html” />

Dynamic: adds the content from the value of the URL attribute to the current page, at request time. It works a lot like <jsp:include>, but it’s more powerful and flexible: unlike the other two includes, the <c:import> url can be from outside the web Container!

4) Preludes and codas:

Static: preludes and codas can be applied only to the beginnings and ends of pages.
You can implicitly include preludes (also called headers) and codas (also called footers) for a group of JSP pages by adding <include-prelude> and <include-coda> elements respectively within a <jsp-property-group> element in the Web application web.xml deployment descriptor. Read more here:
Configuring Implicit Includes at the Beginning and End of JSPs
Defining implicit includes

Tag File is an indirect method of content reuse, the way of encapsulating reusable content. A Tag File is a source file that contains a fragment of JSP code that is reusable as a custom tag.

The PURPOSE of includes and Tag Files is different.

Tag file (a concept introduced with JSP 2.0) is one of the options for creating custom tags. It's a faster and easier way to build custom tags. Custom tags, also known as tag extensions, are JSP elements that allow custom logic and output provided by other Java components to be inserted into JSP pages. The logic provided through a custom tag is implemented by a Java object known as a tag handler.

Some examples of tasks that can be performed by custom tags include operating on implicit objects, processing forms, accessing databases and other enterprise services such as email and directories, and implementing flow control.

Regarding your Edit

Maybe in your example (in your "Edit" paragraph), there is no difference between using direct include and a Tag File. But custom tags have a rich set of features. They can

  • Be customized by means of attributes passed from the calling page.

  • Pass variables back to the calling page.

  • Access all the objects available to JSP pages.

  • Communicate with each other. You can create and initialize a JavaBeans component, create a public EL variable that refers to that bean in one tag, and then use the bean in another tag.

  • Be nested within one another and communicate by means of private variables.

Useful reading.

Conclusion

Use the right tools for each task.

Use Tag Files as a quick and easy way of creating custom tags that can help you encapsulate reusable content.

As for the including content in JSP (quote from here):

  • Use the include directive if the file changes rarely. It’s the fastest mechanism. If your container doesn’t automatically detect changes, you can force the changes to take effect by deleting the main page class file.
  • Use the include action only for content that changes often, and if which page to include cannot be decided until the main page is requested.

I want to exception handle 'list index out of range.'

You have two options; either handle the exception or test the length:

if len(dlist) > 1:
    newlist.append(dlist[1])
    continue

or

try:
    newlist.append(dlist[1])
except IndexError:
    pass
continue

Use the first if there often is no second item, the second if there sometimes is no second item.

Get fragment (value after hash '#') from a URL in php

You need to parse the url first, so it goes like this:

$url = "https://www.example.com/profile#picture";
$fragment = parse_url($url,PHP_URL_FRAGMENT); //this variable holds the value - 'picture'

If you need to parse the actual url of the current browser, you need to request to call the server.

$url = $_SERVER["REQUEST_URI"];
$fragment = parse_url($url,PHP_URL_FRAGMENT); //this variable holds the value - 'picture'

Cannot obtain value of local or argument as it is not available at this instruction pointer, possibly because it has been optimized away

When I was faced with the same problem I just had to clean my solution before rebuilding. That took care of it for me.

SQL statement to get column type

In TSQL/MSSQL it looks like:

SELECT t.name, c.name
FROM sys.tables t
JOIN sys.columns c ON t.object_id = c.object_id
JOIN sys.types y ON y.user_type_id = c.user_type_id
WHERE t.name = ''

Check if a variable is between two numbers with Java

//If "x" is between "a" and "b";

.....

int m = (a+b)/2;

if(Math.abs(x-m) <= (Math.abs(a-m)))

{
(operations)
}

......

//have to use floating point conversions if the summ is not even;

Simple example :

//if x is between 10 and 20

if(Math.abs(x-15)<=5)

How to launch a Google Chrome Tab with specific URL using C#

UPDATE: Please see Dylan's or d.c's anwer for a little easier (and more stable) solution, which does not rely on Chrome beeing installed in LocalAppData!

Even if I agree with Daniel Hilgarth to open a new tab in chrome you just need to execute chrome.exe with your URL as the argument:

Process.Start(@"%AppData%\..\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe",
              "http:\\www.YourUrl.com");
