Programs & Examples On #Fatal error

An error that causes a program to abort, regardless of the programming language.

PHP Fatal error: Using $this when not in object context

Just use the Class method using this foobar->foobarfunc();

Why, Fatal error: Class 'PHPUnit_Framework_TestCase' not found in ...?

For those arriving here after updating phpunit to version 6 or greater released on 2017-02-03 (e.g. with composer), you may be getting this error because phpunit code is now namespaced (check changelog).

You will need to refactor things like \PHPUnit_Framework_TestCase to \PHPUnit\Framework\TestCase

Fatal error: Class 'SoapClient' not found

For Docker* add this line:

RUN apt-get update && \
    apt-get install -y libxml2-dev && \
    docker-php-ext-install soap

*: For debian based images, ie. won't work for alpine variants.

How do I catch a PHP fatal (`E_ERROR`) error?

There are certain circumstances in which even fatal errors should be caught (you might need to do some clean up before exiting gracefully and don’t just die..).

I have implemented a pre_system hook in my CodeIgniter applications so that I can get my fatal errors through emails, and this helped me finding bugs that were not reported (or were reported after they were fixed, as I already knew about them :)).

Sendemail checks if the error has already been reported so that it does not spam you with known errors multiple times.

class PHPFatalError {

    public function setHandler() {
        register_shutdown_function('handleShutdown');
    }
}

function handleShutdown() {
    if (($error = error_get_last())) {
        ob_start();
        echo "<pre>";
        var_dump($error);
        echo "</pre>";
        $message = ob_get_clean();
        sendEmail($message);
        ob_start();
        echo '{"status":"error","message":"Internal application error!"}';
        ob_flush();
        exit();
    }
}

relative path in require_once doesn't work

In my case it doesn't work, even with __DIR__ or getcwd() it keeps picking the wrong path, I solved by defining a costant in every file I need with the absolute base path of the project:

if(!defined('THISBASEPATH')){ define('THISBASEPATH', '/mypath/'); }
require_once THISBASEPATH.'cache/crud.php';
/*every other require_once you need*/

I have MAMP with php 5.4.10 and my folder hierarchy is basilar:

q.php
w.php
e.php
r.php
cache/a.php
cache/b.php
setting/a.php
setting/b.php

....

PHP Fatal error when trying to access phpmyadmin mb_detect_encoding

  1. Some versions of windows do not come with libmysql.dll which is necessary to load the mysql and mysqli extensions. Check if it is available in C:/Windows/System32 (windows 7, 32 bits). If not, you can download it DLL-files.com and install it under C:/Windows/System32.
  2. If this persists, check your apache log files and resort to a solution above which responds to the error logged by your server.

PHP Notice: Undefined offset: 1 with array when reading data

The output of the error, is because you call an index of the Array that does not exist, for example

$arr = Array(1,2,3);
echo $arr[3];
// Error PHP Notice: Undefined offset: 1 pointer 3 does not exist, the array only has 3 elements but starts at 0 to 2, not 3!

PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class

Just do one thing whenever you include or require filename namely class.login.php. You can include it this way:

include_once class.login.php or
require_once class.login.php

This way it never throws an error.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes)

WordPress overrides PHP's memory limit to 256M, with the assumption that whatever it was set to before is going to be too low to render the dashboard. You can override this by defining WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT in wp-config.php:

define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT' , '512M' );

I agree with DanFromGermany, 256M is really a lot of memory for rendering a dashboard page. Changing the memory limit is really putting a bandage on the problem.

require_once :failed to open stream: no such file or directory

this will work as well

 require_once(realpath($_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]) .'/mysite/php/includes/dbconn.inc');

PHP Fatal error: Cannot access empty property

You access the property in the wrong way. With the $this->$my_value = .. syntax, you set the property with the name of the value in $my_value. What you want is $this->my_value = ..

$var = "my_value";
$this->$var = "test";

is the same as

$this->my_value = "test";

To fix a few things from your example, the code below is a better aproach

class my_class {

    public  $my_value = array();

    function __construct ($value) {
        $this->my_value[] = $value;
    }

    function set_value ($value) {
        if (!is_array($value)) {
            throw new Exception("Illegal argument");
        }

        $this->my_value = $value;
    }

    function add_value($value) {
        $this->my_value = $value;
    }
}

$a = new my_class ('a');
$a->my_value[] = 'b';
$a->add_value('c');
$a->set_value(array('d'));

This ensures, that my_value won't change it's type to string or something else when you call set_value. But you can still set the value of my_value direct, because it's public. The final step is, to make my_value private and only access my_value over getter/setter methods

Weird PHP error: 'Can't use function return value in write context'

for WORDPRESS:

instead of:

if (empty(get_option('smth')))

should be:

if (!get_option('smth'))

C++ Fatal Error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals

In my particular case, this error error was happening because the file which I've added wasn't referenced at .vcproj file.

Cannot redeclare function php

Remove the function and check the output of:

var_dump(function_exists('parseDate'));

In which case, change the name of the function.

If you get false, you're including the file with that function twice, replace :

include

by

include_once

And replace :

require

by

require_once

EDIT : I'm just a little too late, post before beat me to it !

A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: SIGSEGV, libjvm

Not really to answer OP's question (it's resolved anyway), but to help people who may stumble into the similar issue.

Here is what we had:

Meaning of Choreographer messages in Logcat

This if an Info message that could pop in your LogCat on many situations.

In my case, it happened when I was inflating several views from XML layout files programmatically. The message is harmless by itself, but could be the sign of a later problem that would use all the RAM your App is allowed to use and cause the mega-evil Force Close to happen. I have grown to be the kind of Developer that likes to see his Log WARN/INFO/ERROR Free. ;)

So, this is my own experience:

I got the message:

10-09 01:25:08.373: I/Choreographer(11134): Skipped XXX frames! The application may be doing too much work on its main thread.

... when I was creating my own custom "super-complex multi-section list" by inflating a view from XML and populating its fields (images, text, etc...) with the data coming from the response of a REST/JSON web service (without paging capabilities) this views would act as rows, sub-section headers and section headers by adding all of them in the correct order to a LinearLayout (with vertical orientation inside a ScrollView). All of that to simulate a listView with clickable elements... but well, that's for another question.

As a responsible Developer you want to make the App really efficient with the system resources, so the best practice for lists (when your lists are not so complex) is to use a ListActivity or ListFragment with a Loader and fill the ListView with an Adapter, this is supposedly more efficient, in fact it is and you should do it all the time, again... if your list is not so complex.

Solution: I implemented paging on my REST/JSON web service to prevent "big response sizes" and I wrapped the code that added the "rows", "section headers" and "sub-section headers" views on an AsyncTask to keep the Main Thread cool.

So... I hope my experience helps someone else that is cracking their heads open with this Info message.

Happy hacking!

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.jersey.spi.container.servlet.ServletContainer

You have downloaded Jersey 2 (which RI of JAX-RS 2). The tutorial you're referring to uses Jersey 1. Download Jersey 1.17.1 from (here), should be sufficient for you.

Jersey 1 uses com.sun.jersey, and Jersey 2 uses org.glassfish.jersey hence the exception.

Also note that also init-param starting with com.sun.jersey won't be recognized by Jersey 2.

Edit

Registering Resources and Providers in Jersey 2 contains additional info on how to register classes/instances in Jersey 2.

Definitive way to trigger keypress events with jQuery

Ok, for me that work with this...

var e2key = function(e) {
    if (!e) return '';
    var event2key = {
        '96':'0', '97':'1', '98':'2', '99':'3', '100':'4', '101':'5', '102':'6', '103':'7', '104':'8', '105':'9', // Chiffres clavier num
        '48':'m0', '49':'m1', '50':'m2', '51':'m3', '52':'m4', '53':'m5', '54':'m6', '55':'m7', '56':'m8', '57':'m9', // Chiffres caracteres speciaux
        '65':'a', '66':'b', '67':'c', '68':'d', '69':'e', '70':'f', '71':'g', '72':'h', '73':'i', '74':'j', '75':'k', '76':'l', '77':'m', '78':'n', '79':'o', '80':'p', '81':'q', '82':'r', '83':'s', '84':'t', '85':'u', '86':'v', '87':'w', '88':'x', '89':'y', '90':'z', // Alphabet

    };
    return event2key[(e.which || e.keyCode)];
};

var page5Key = function(e, customKey) {
    if (e) e.preventDefault();
    switch(e2key(customKey || e)) {
        case 'left': /*...*/ break;
        case 'right': /*...*/ break;
    }
};

$(document).bind('keyup', page5Key);

$(document).trigger('keyup', [{preventDefault:function(){},keyCode:37}]);

Delete files in subfolder using batch script

You can use the /s switch for del to delete in subfolders as well.

Example

del D:\test\*.* /s

Would delete all files under test including all files in all subfolders.

To remove folders use rd, same switch applies.

rd D:\test\folder /s /q

rd doesn't support wildcards * though so if you want to recursively delete all subfolders under the test directory you can use a for loop.

for /r /d D:\test %a in (*) do rd %a /s /q

If you are using the for option in a batch file remember to use 2 %'s instead of 1.

Close pre-existing figures in matplotlib when running from eclipse

Nothing works in my case using the scripts above but I was able to close these figures from eclipse console bar by clicking on Terminate ALL (two red nested squares icon).

C# - Create SQL Server table programmatically

Try this

Check if table have there , and drop the table , then create

using (SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand("IF EXISTS (
SELECT *
FROM sys.tables
WHERE name LIKE '#Customer%')
DROP TABLE #Customer CREATE TABLE Customer(First_Name char(50),Last_Name char(50),Address char(50),City char(50),Country char(25),Birth_Date datetime);", con))

Asp.net Validation of viewstate MAC failed

Microsoft says to never use a key generator web site.

Like everyone else here, I added this to my web.config.

<System.Web>
    <machineKey decryptionKey="ABC123...SUPERLONGKEY...5432JFEI242"
                validationKey="XYZ234...SUPERLONGVALIDATIONKEY...FDA"
                validation="SHA1" />
</system.web>

However, I used IIS as my machineKey generator like so:

  1. Open IIS and select a website to get this screen:

enter image description here

  1. Double click the Machine Key icon to get this screen:

enter image description here

  1. Click the "Generate Keys" link on the right which I outlined in the pic above.

Notes:

  • If you select the "Generate a unique key for each application" checkbox, ",IsolateApps" will be added to the end of your keys. I had to remove these to get the app to work. Obviously, they're not part of the key.
  • SHA1 was the default encryption method selected by IIS and if you change it, don't forget to change the validation property on machineKey in the web.config. However, encryption methods and algorithms evolve so please feel free to edit this post with the updated preferred Encryption method or mention it in the notes and I'll update.

How to get a cookie from an AJAX response?

Similar to yebmouxing I could not the

 xhr.getResponseHeader('Set-Cookie');

method to work. It would only return null even if I had set HTTPOnly to false on my server.

I too wrote a simple js helper function to grab the cookies from the document. This function is very basic and only works if you know the additional info (lifespan, domain, path, etc. etc.) to add yourself:

function getCookie(cookieName){
  var cookieArray = document.cookie.split(';');
  for(var i=0; i<cookieArray.length; i++){
    var cookie = cookieArray[i];
    while (cookie.charAt(0)==' '){
      cookie = cookie.substring(1);
    }
    cookieHalves = cookie.split('=');
    if(cookieHalves[0]== cookieName){
      return cookieHalves[1];
    }
  }
  return "";
}

What certificates are trusted in truststore?

Is there any equivalent for the truststore? How can I view the trusted certificates?

Yes there is.The exact same command since keystore and truststore differ only in what they store i.e. private key or signed public key (certificate)

No other difference

UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xa0' in position 20: ordinal not in range(128)

You need to read the Python Unicode HOWTO. This error is the very first example.

Basically, stop using str to convert from unicode to encoded text / bytes.

Instead, properly use .encode() to encode the string:

p.agent_info = u' '.join((agent_contact, agent_telno)).encode('utf-8').strip()

or work entirely in unicode.

Inline IF Statement in C#

You may define your enum like so and use cast where needed

public enum MyEnum
{
    VariablePeriods = 1,
    FixedPeriods = 2
}

Usage

public class Entity
{
    public MyEnum Property { get; set; }
}

var returnedFromDB = 1;
var entity = new Entity();
entity.Property = (MyEnum)returnedFromDB;

How to read a text file into a string variable and strip newlines?

file = open("myfile.txt", "r")
lines = file.readlines()
str = ''                                     #string declaration

for i in range(len(lines)):
    str += lines[i].rstrip('\n') + ' '

print str

Running a command in a new Mac OS X Terminal window

Here's my awesome script, it creates a new terminal window if needed and switches to the directory Finder is in if Finder is frontmost. It has all the machinery you need to run commands.

on run
    -- Figure out if we want to do the cd (doIt)
    -- Figure out what the path is and quote it (myPath)
    try
        tell application "Finder" to set doIt to frontmost
        set myPath to finder_path()
        if myPath is equal to "" then
            set doIt to false
        else
            set myPath to quote_for_bash(myPath)
        end if
    on error
        set doIt to false
    end try

    -- Figure out if we need to open a window
    -- If Terminal was not running, one will be opened automatically
    tell application "System Events" to set isRunning to (exists process "Terminal")

    tell application "Terminal"
        -- Open a new window
        if isRunning then do script ""
        activate
        -- cd to the path
        if doIt then
            -- We need to delay, terminal ignores the second do script otherwise
            delay 0.3
            do script " cd " & myPath in front window
        end if
    end tell
end run

on finder_path()
    try
        tell application "Finder" to set the source_folder to (folder of the front window) as alias
        set thePath to (POSIX path of the source_folder as string)
    on error -- no open folder windows
        set thePath to ""
    end try

    return thePath
end finder_path

-- This simply quotes all occurrences of ' and puts the whole thing between 's
on quote_for_bash(theString)
    set oldDelims to AppleScript's text item delimiters
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "'"
    set the parsedList to every text item of theString
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to "'\\''"
    set theString to the parsedList as string
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oldDelims
    return "'" & theString & "'"
end quote_for_bash

jquery: $(window).scrollTop() but no $(window).scrollBottom()

This is a quick hack: just assign the scroll value to a very large number. This will ensure that the page is scrolled to the bottom. Using plain javascript:

document.body.scrollTop = 100000;

How can I enable the MySQLi extension in PHP 7?

Let's use

mysqli_connect

instead of

mysql_connect

because mysql_connect isn't supported in PHP 7.

Navigation bar with UIImage for title

Programmatically could be done like this.

private var imageView: UIView {

    let bannerWidth = navigationBar.frame.size.width * 0.5 // 0.5 its multiplier to get correct image width
    let bannerHeight = navigationBar.frame.size.height

    let view = UIView()
    view.backgroundColor = .clear
    view.frame = CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: bannerWidth, height: bannerHeight)

    let image = UIImage(named: "your_image_name")
    let imageView = UIImageView(image: image)
    imageView.contentMode = .scaleAspectFit
    imageView.frame = CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: view.frame.width, height: view.frame.height)

    view.addSubview(imageView)

    return view
}

The just change titleView

navigationItem.titleView = imageView

String.Replace(char, char) method in C#

I know this is an old post but I'd like to add my method.

public static string Replace(string text, string[] toReplace, string replaceWith)
    {
        foreach (string str in toReplace)
           text = text.Replace(str, replaceWith);

        return text;
    }

Example usage:

string newText = Replace("This is an \r\n \n an example.", new string[] { "\r\n", "\n" }, "");

How do you make an array of structs in C?

I think you could write it that way too. I am also a student so I understand your struggle. A bit late response but ok .

#include<stdio.h>
#define n 3

struct {
    double p[3];//position
    double v[3];//velocity
    double a[3];//acceleration
    double radius;
    double mass;
}bodies[n];

Remove Identity from a column in a table

I just had this same problem. 4 statements in SSMS instead of using the GUI and it was very fast.

  • Make a new column

    alter table users add newusernum int;

  • Copy values over

    update users set newusernum=usernum;

  • Drop the old column

    alter table users drop column usernum;

  • Rename the new column to the old column name

    EXEC sp_RENAME 'users.newusernum' , 'usernum', 'COLUMN';

What does the 'Z' mean in Unix timestamp '120314170138Z'?

The Z stands for 'Zulu' - your times are in UTC. From Wikipedia:

The UTC time zone is sometimes denoted by the letter Z—a reference to the equivalent nautical time zone (GMT), which has been denoted by a Z since about 1950. The letter also refers to the "zone description" of zero hours, which has been used since 1920 (see time zone history). Since the NATO phonetic alphabet and amateur radio word for Z is "Zulu", UTC is sometimes known as Zulu time. This is especially true in aviation, where Zulu is the universal standard.

Joining pandas dataframes by column names

you can use the left_on and right_on options as follows:

pd.merge(frame_1, frame_2, left_on='county_ID', right_on='countyid')

I was not sure from the question if you only wanted to merge if the key was in the left hand dataframe. If that is the case then the following will do that (the above will in effect do a many to many merge)

pd.merge(frame_1, frame_2, how='left', left_on='county_ID', right_on='countyid')

How to compare 2 dataTables

There is nothing out there that is going to do this for you; the only way you're going to accomplish this is to iterate all the rows/columns and compare them to each other.

how to set imageview src?

To set image cource in imageview you can use any of the following ways. First confirm your image is present in which format.

If you have image in the form of bitmap then use

imageview.setImageBitmap(bm);

If you have image in the form of drawable then use

imageview.setImageDrawable(drawable);

If you have image in your resource example if image is present in drawable folder then use

imageview.setImageResource(R.drawable.image);

If you have path of image then use

imageview.setImageURI(Uri.parse("pathofimage"));

Make page to tell browser not to cache/preserve input values

Are you explicitly setting the values as blank? For example:

<input type="text" name="textfield" value="">

That should stop browsers putting data in where it shouldn't. Alternatively, you can add the autocomplete attribute to the form tag:

<form autocomplete="off" ...></form>

How to call a Web Service Method?

The current way to do this is by using the "Add Service Reference" command. If you specify "TestUploaderWebService" as the service reference name, that will generate the type TestUploaderWebService.Service1. That class will have a method named GetFileListOnWebServer, which will return an array of strings (you can change that to be a list of strings if you like). You would use it like this:

string[] files = null;
TestUploaderWebService.Service1 proxy = null;
bool success = false;
try
{
    proxy = new TestUploaderWebService.Service1();
    files = proxy.GetFileListOnWebServer();
    proxy.Close();
    success = true;
}
finally
{
    if (!success)
    {
        proxy.Abort();
    }
}

P.S. Tell your instructor to look at "Microsoft: ASMX Web Services are a “Legacy Technology”", and ask why he's teaching out of date technology.

wamp server mysql user id and password

By default, you can access your databases at http:// localhost/phpmyadmin using user: root and a blank password.

Once logged in PHPmyAdmin, click on the Privileges tab. and on the Add a new user link located under the User Overview table

How to display an IFRAME inside a jQuery UI dialog

There are multiple ways you can do this but I am not sure which one is the best practice. The first approach is you can append an iFrame in the dialog container on the fly with your given link:

$("#dialog").append($("<iframe />").attr("src", "your link")).dialog({dialogoptions});

Another would be to load the content of your external link into the dialog container using ajax.

$("#dialog").load("yourajaxhandleraddress.htm").dialog({dialogoptions});

Both works fine but depends on the external content.

Use table name in MySQL SELECT "AS"

To declare a string literal as an output column, leave the Table off and just use Test. It doesn't need to be associated with a table among your joins, since it will be accessed only by its column alias. When using a metadata function like getColumnMeta(), the table name will be an empty string because it isn't associated with a table.

SELECT
  `field1`,
  `field2`,
  'Test' AS `field3`
FROM `Test`;

Note: I'm using single quotes above. MySQL is usually configured to honor double quotes for strings, but single quotes are more widely portable among RDBMS.

If you must have a table alias name with the literal value, you need to wrap it in a subquery with the same name as the table you want to use:

SELECT
  field1,
  field2,
  field3
FROM
  /* subquery wraps all fields to put the literal inside a table */
  (SELECT field1, field2, 'Test' AS field3 FROM Test) AS Test

Now field3 will come in the output as Test.field3.

JavaScript get window X/Y position for scroll

The method jQuery (v1.10) uses to find this is:

var doc = document.documentElement;
var left = (window.pageXOffset || doc.scrollLeft) - (doc.clientLeft || 0);
var top = (window.pageYOffset || doc.scrollTop)  - (doc.clientTop || 0);

That is:

  • It tests for window.pageXOffset first and uses that if it exists.
  • Otherwise, it uses document.documentElement.scrollLeft.
  • It then subtracts document.documentElement.clientLeft if it exists.

The subtraction of document.documentElement.clientLeft / Top only appears to be required to correct for situations where you have applied a border (not padding or margin, but actual border) to the root element, and at that, possibly only in certain browsers.

How do I install an R package from source?

In addition, you can build the binary package using the --binary option.

R CMD build --binary RJSONIO_0.2-3.tar.gz

How to open a new HTML page using jQuery?

Use window.open("file2.html");

Syntax

var windowObjectReference = window.open(strUrl, strWindowName[, strWindowFeatures]);

Return value and parameters

windowObjectReference

A reference to the newly created window. If the call failed, it will be null. The reference can be used to access properties and methods of the new window provided it complies with Same origin policy security requirements.

strUrl

The URL to be loaded in the newly opened window. strUrl can be an HTML document on the web, image file or any resource supported by the browser.

strWindowName

A string name for the new window. The name can be used as the target of links and forms using the target attribute of an <a> or <form> element. The name should not contain any blank space. Note that strWindowName does not specify the title of the new window.

strWindowFeatures

Optional parameter listing the features (size, position, scrollbars, etc.) of the new window. The string must not contain any blank space, each feature name and value must be separated by a comma.

python: sys is not defined

Move import sys outside of the try-except block:

import sys
try:
    # ...
except ImportError:
    # ...

If any of the imports before the import sys line fails, the rest of the block is not executed, and sys is never imported. Instead, execution jumps to the exception handling block, where you then try to access a non-existing name.

sys is a built-in module anyway, it is always present as it holds the data structures to track imports; if importing sys fails, you have bigger problems on your hand (as that would indicate that all module importing is broken).

How to add a href link in PHP?

Looks like you missed a few closing tags and you nshould have "http://" on the front of an external URL. Also, you should move your styles to external style sheets instead of using inline styles.

How to group dataframe rows into list in pandas groupby

Answer based on @EdChum's comment on his answer. Comment is this -

groupby is notoriously slow and memory hungry, what you could do is sort by column A, then find the idxmin and idxmax (probably store this in a dict) and use this to slice your dataframe would be faster I think

Let's first create a dataframe with 500k categories in first column and total df shape 20 million as mentioned in question.

df = pd.DataFrame(columns=['a', 'b'])
df['a'] = (np.random.randint(low=0, high=500000, size=(20000000,))).astype(str)
df['b'] = list(range(20000000))
print(df.shape)
df.head()
# Sort data by first column
df.sort_values(by=['a'], ascending=True, inplace=True)
df.reset_index(drop=True, inplace=True)

# Create a temp column
df['temp_idx'] = list(range(df.shape[0]))

# Take all values of b in a separate list
all_values_b = list(df.b.values)
print(len(all_values_b))
# For each category in column a, find min and max indexes
gp_df = df.groupby(['a']).agg({'temp_idx': [np.min, np.max]})
gp_df.reset_index(inplace=True)
gp_df.columns = ['a', 'temp_idx_min', 'temp_idx_max']

# Now create final list_b column, using min and max indexes for each category of a and filtering list of b.
gp_df['list_b'] = gp_df[['temp_idx_min', 'temp_idx_max']].apply(lambda x: all_values_b[x[0]:x[1]+1], axis=1)

print(gp_df.shape)
gp_df.head()

This above code takes 2 minutes for 20 million rows and 500k categories in first column.

Is it possible to override / remove background: none!important with jQuery?

div { background: none !important }
div { background: red; }

Is transparent.

div { background: none !important }
div { background: red !important; }

Is red.

An !important can override another !important.

If you can't edit the CSS file you can still add another one, or a style tag in the head tag.

Pandas DataFrame concat vs append

One more thing you have to keep in mind that the APPEND() method in Pandas doesn't modify the original object. Instead it creates a new one with combined data. Because of involving creation and data buffer, its performance is not well. You'd better use CONCAT() function when doing multi-APPEND operations.

How to center horizontal table-cell

If you add text-align: center to the declarations for .columns-container then they align centrally:

.columns-container {
    display: table-cell;
    height: 100%;

    text-align: center;

getApplicationContext() - Returns the context for all activities running in application.

getBaseContext() - If you want to access Context from another context within application you can access.

getContext() - Returns the context view only current running activity.

Get HTML5 localStorage keys

We can also read by the name.

Say we have saved the value with name 'user' like this

localStorage.setItem('user', user_Detail);

Then we can read it by using

localStorage.getItem('user');

I used it and it is working smooth, no need to do the for loop

Excel VBA Open workbook, perform actions, save as, close

I'll try and answer several different things, however my contribution may not cover all of your questions. Maybe several of us can take different chunks out of this. However, this info should be helpful for you. Here we go..

Opening A Seperate File:

ChDir "[Path here]" 'get into the right folder here
Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'include the filename in this path

'copy data into current workbook or whatever you want here

ActiveWindow.Close                          'closes out the file

Opening A File With Specified Date If It Exists:

I'm not sure how to search your directory to see if a file exists, but in my case I wouldn't bother to search for it, I'd just try to open it and put in some error checking so that if it doesn't exist then display this message or do xyz.

Some common error checking statements:

On Error Resume Next 'if error occurs continues on to the next line (ignores it)

ChDir "[Path here]"
Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'try to open file here

Or (better option):

if one doesn't exist then bring up either a message box or dialogue box to say "the file does not exist, would you like to create a new one?

you would most likely want to use the GoTo ErrorHandler shown below to achieve this

On Error GoTo ErrorHandler:

ChDir "[Path here]"
Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'try to open file here

ErrorHandler:
'Display error message or any code you want to run on error here

Much more info on Error handling here: http://www.cpearson.com/excel/errorhandling.htm

Also if you want to learn more or need to know more generally in VBA I would recommend Siddharth Rout's site, he has lots of tutorials and example code here: http://www.siddharthrout.com/vb-dot-net-and-excel/

Hope this helps!

Example on how to ensure error code doesn't run EVERYtime:

if you debug through the code without the Exit Sub BEFORE the error handler you'll soon realize the error handler will be run everytime regarldess of if there is an error or not. The link below the code example shows a previous answer to this question.

  Sub Macro

    On Error GoTo ErrorHandler:

    ChDir "[Path here]"
    Workbooks.Open Filename:= "[Path here]" 'try to open file here

    Exit Sub 'Code will exit BEFORE ErrorHandler if everything goes smoothly
                  'Otherwise, on error, ErrorHandler will be run

    ErrorHandler:
    'Display error message or any code you want to run on error here

  End Sub

Also, look at this other question in you need more reference to how this works: goto block not working VBA

How to use boolean 'and' in Python

how to get all markers on google-maps-v3

If you are using JQuery Google map plug-in then below code will work for you -

var markers = $('#map_canvas').gmap('get','markers');

onclick="location.href='link.html'" does not load page in Safari

Use jQuery....I know you say you're trying to teach someone javascript, but teach him a cleaner technique... for instance, I could:

<select id="navigation">
    <option value="unit_01.htm">Unit 1</option>
    <option value="#5.2">Bookmark 2</option>
</select>

And with a little jQuery, you could do:

$("#navigation").change(function()
{
    document.location.href = $(this).val();
});

Unobtrusive, and with clean separation of logic and UI.

Eloquent Collection: Counting and Detect Empty

so Laravel actually returns a collection when just using Model::all(); you don't want a collection you want an array so you can type set it. (array)Model::all(); then you can use array_filter to return the results

$models = (array)Model::all()
$models = array_filter($models);
if(empty($models))
{
 do something
}

this will also allow you to do things like count().

Use cell's color as condition in if statement (function)

I had a similar problem where I needed to only show a value from another Excel cell if the font was black. I created this function: `Option Explicit

Function blackFont(r As Range) As Boolean If r.Font.Color = 0 Then blackFont = True Else blackFont = False End If

End Function `

In my cell I have this formula: =IF(blackFont(Y51),Y51," ")

This worked well for me to test for a black font and only show the value in the Y51 cell if it had a black font.

Dismissing a Presented View Controller

This is a lot of baloney. Delegation is fine when it is needed but if it makes the code more complex -- and it does -- then there needs to be a reason for it.

I'm sure Apple has its reasons. But it is clearer and more concise to simply have the presented VC do the dismiss unless there is a true reason for doing otherwise and no one here as of today has presented one that I can see.

Protocols are excellent when they're needed but object oriented design was never about having modules communicating unnecessarily with each other.

Tom Love (co-developer of Objective C) once commented that Objective C was "elegant", "small", "crisp" and "well-defined" (when comparing with C++). Easy for him to say. Delegation is a useful feature that seems to have been over-used "just because", and while I like working in the language, I dread the idea of felling compelled to use unnecessary syntax to make things more complex than they have to be.

CSS Grid Layout not working in IE11 even with prefixes

To support IE11 with auto-placement, I converted grid to table layout every time I used the grid layout in 1 dimension only. I also used margin instead of grid-gap.

The result is the same, see how you can do it here https://jsfiddle.net/hp95z6v1/3/

How do I make Java register a string input with spaces?

Instead of

Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
String question;

Type in

Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);

question = in.nextLine();

This should be able to take spaces as input.

Pattern matching using a wildcard

If you want to examine elements inside a dataframe you should not be using ls() which only looks at the names of objects in the current workspace (or if used inside a function in the current environment). Rownames or elements inside such objects are not visible to ls() (unless of course you add an environment argument to the ls(.)-call). Try using grep() which is the workhorse function for pattern matching of character vectors:

result <- a[ grep("blue", a$x) , ]  # Note need to use `a$` to get at the `x`

If you want to use subset then consider the closely related function grepl() which returns a vector of logicals can be used in the subset argument:

subset(a, grepl("blue", a$x))
      x
2 blue1
3 blue2

Edit: Adding one "proper" use of glob2rx within subset():

result <- subset(a,  grepl(glob2rx("blue*") , x) )
result
      x
2 blue1
3 blue2

I don't think I actually understood glob2rx until I came back to this question. (I did understand the scoping issues that were ar the root of the questioner's difficulties. Anybody reading this should now scroll down to Gavin's answer and upvote it.)

How to load data to hive from HDFS without removing the source file?

from your question I assume that you already have your data in hdfs. So you don't need to LOAD DATA, which moves the files to the default hive location /user/hive/warehouse. You can simply define the table using the externalkeyword, which leaves the files in place, but creates the table definition in the hive metastore. See here: Create Table DDL eg.:

create external table table_name (
  id int,
  myfields string
)
location '/my/location/in/hdfs';

Please note that the format you use might differ from the default (as mentioned by JigneshRawal in the comments). You can use your own delimiter, for example when using Sqoop:

PHP - Merging two arrays into one array (also Remove Duplicates)

As already mentioned, array_unique() could be used, but only when dealing with simple data. The objects are not so simple to handle.

When php tries to merge the arrays, it tries to compare the values of the array members. If a member is an object, it cannot get its value and uses the spl hash instead. Read more about spl_object_hash here.

Simply told if you have two objects, instances of the very same class and if one of them is not a reference to the other one - you will end up having two objects, no matter the value of their properties.

To be sure that you don't have any duplicates within the merged array, Imho you should handle the case on your own.

Also if you are going to merge multidimensional arrays, consider using array_merge_recursive() over array_merge().

What is the best way to clone/deep copy a .NET generic Dictionary<string, T>?

You could always use serialization. You could serialize the object then deserialize it. That will give you a deep copy of the Dictionary and all the items inside of it. Now you can create a deep copy of any object that is marked as [Serializable] without writing any special code.

Here are two methods that will use Binary Serialization. If you use these methods you simply call

object deepcopy = FromBinary(ToBinary(yourDictionary));

public Byte[] ToBinary()
{
  MemoryStream ms = null;
  Byte[] byteArray = null;
  try
  {
    BinaryFormatter serializer = new BinaryFormatter();
    ms = new MemoryStream();
    serializer.Serialize(ms, this);
    byteArray = ms.ToArray();
  }
  catch (Exception unexpected)
  {
    Trace.Fail(unexpected.Message);
    throw;
  }
  finally
  {
    if (ms != null)
      ms.Close();
  }
  return byteArray;
}

public object FromBinary(Byte[] buffer)
{
  MemoryStream ms = null;
  object deserializedObject = null;

  try
  {
    BinaryFormatter serializer = new BinaryFormatter();
    ms = new MemoryStream();
    ms.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length);
    ms.Position = 0;
    deserializedObject = serializer.Deserialize(ms);
  }
  finally
  {
    if (ms != null)
      ms.Close();
  }
  return deserializedObject;
}

Magento How to debug blank white screen

Following can be the reasons for the blank pages in magento

1) File or Directory permission issues. If you are migrating from one server to another remember to give 755 permission to the directories and files

2) If you were working on an xml file and suddenly the pages go blank. Check you might not have commented the code lines properly.An unclosed comment will also create the problem.

3) There may be issue because of insufficient memory allocation for memory_limit.

4) Try clearing the var/cache folder contents

5) Try clearing the var/session folder contents

6) If your extensions use ioncube loader on production then install ion cube on development server also.(Like for extendware extensions).Though you may have ion cube loader try installing the latest version.Because some time when you update the extensions which depends on ion cube there is incompatibility with older versions.

7) Set short_open_tag = On in php.ini .Some times developers use <? ?> tags and if the short_open_tag is not set to on you may face problems like half distorted page etc.

8) Increase max_input_vars and post_max_size values for php. It helps when you try to save large number of tax rates in a tax rule and get a blank page.

WPF MVVM ComboBox SelectedItem or SelectedValue not working

In this case, the selecteditem bind doesn't work, because the hash id of the objects are different.

One possible solution is:

Based on the selected item id, recover the object on the itemsource collection and set the selected item property to with it.

Example:

<ctrls:ComboBoxControlBase SelectedItem="{Binding Path=SelectedProfile, Mode=TwoWay}" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Profiles, Mode=OneWay}" IsEditable="False" DisplayMemberPath="Name" />

The Property binded to ItemSource is:

public ObservableCollection<Profile> Profiles
{
   get { return this.profiles; }
   private set { profiles = value; RaisePropertyChanged("Profiles"); }
}

The property binded to SelectedItem is:

public Profile SelectedProfile
{
    get { return selectedProfile; }
    set
    {
        if (this.SelectedUser != null)
        {
            this.SelectedUser.Profile = value;
            RaisePropertyChanged("SelectedProfile");
        }
    }
}

The recovery code is:

    [Command("SelectionChanged")]
    public void SelectionChanged(User selectedUser)
    {
        if (selectedUser != null)
        {
            if (selectedUser is User)
            {
                if (selectedUser.Profile != null)
                {
                    this.SelectedUser = selectedUser;
                    this.selectedProfile = this.Profiles.Where(p => p.Id == this.SelectedUser.Profile.Id).FirstOrDefault();
                    MessageBroker.Instance.NotifyColleagues("ShowItemDetails");
                }
            }
        }
    }

I hope it helps you. I spent a lot of my time searching for answers, but I couldn´t find.

Git - Undo pushed commits

Another way to do this without revert (traces of undo):

Don't do it if someone else has pushed other commits

Create a backup of your branch, being in your branch my-branch. So in case something goes wrong, you can restart the process without losing any work done.

git checkout -b my-branch-temp

Go back to your branch.

git checkout my-branch

Reset, to discard your last commit (to undo it):

git reset --hard HEAD^

Remove the branch on remote (ex. origin remote).

git push origin :my-branch

Repush your branch (without the unwanted commit) to the remote.

git push origin my-branch

Done!

I hope that helps! ;)

Using set_facts and with_items together in Ansible

As mentioned in other people's comments, the top solution given here was not working for me in Ansible 2.2, particularly when also using with_items.

It appears that OP's intended approach does work now with a slight change to the quoting of item.

- set_fact: something="{{ something + [ item ] }}"
  with_items:
    - one
    - two
    - three

And a longer example where I've handled the initial case of the list being undefined and added an optional when because that was also causing me grief:

- set_fact: something="{{ something|default([]) + [ item ] }}"
  with_items:
    - one
    - two
    - three
  when: item.name in allowed_things.item_list

Script Tag - async & defer

async and defer will download the file during HTML parsing. Both will not interrupt the parser.

  • The script with async attribute will be executed once it is downloaded. While the script with defer attribute will be executed after completing the DOM parsing.

  • The scripts loaded with async doesn't guarantee any order. While the scripts loaded with defer attribute maintains the order in which they appear on the DOM.

Use <script async> when the script does not rely on anything. when the script depends use <script defer>.

Best solution would be add the <script> at the bottom of the body. There will be no issue with blocking or rendering.

how to check if List<T> element contains an item with a Particular Property Value

You don't actually need LINQ for this because List<T> provides a method that does exactly what you want: Find.

Searches for an element that matches the conditions defined by the specified predicate, and returns the first occurrence within the entire List<T>.

Example code:

PricePublicModel result = pricePublicList.Find(x => x.Size == 200);

UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning: This error originated either by throwing inside of an async function without a catch block

I suggest removing the below code from getMails

 .catch(error => { throw error})

In your main function you should put await and related code in Try block and also add one catch block where you failure code.

you function gmaiLHelper.getEmails should return a promise which has reject and resolve in it.

Now while calling and using await put that in try catch block(remove the .catch) as below.

router.get("/emailfetch", authCheck, async (req, res) => {
  //listing messages in users mailbox
try{
  let emailFetch = await gmaiLHelper.getEmails(req.user._doc.profile_id , '/messages', req.user.accessToken)
}
catch (error) {
 // your catch block code goes here
})

How to programmatically get iOS status bar height

Go with Martin's suggestion to the question: Get iPhone Status Bar Height.

CGFloat AACStatusBarHeight()
{
    CGSize statusBarSize = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] statusBarFrame].size;
    return MIN(statusBarSize.width, statusBarSize.height);
}

And in Swift

func statusBarHeight() -> CGFloat {
    let statusBarSize = UIApplication.shared.statusBarFrame.size
    return Swift.min(statusBarSize.width, statusBarSize.height)
}

It seems like a hack, but it's actually pretty solid. Anyway, it's the only working solution.

Old Answer

The following code, which would go in your custom subclass of UIViewController, almost worked to support landscape. But, I noticed a corner case (when rotating from right > unsupported upside-down > left) for which it didn't work (switched height & width).

BOOL isPortrait = self.interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait;
CGSize statusBarSize = [UIApplication sharedApplication].statusBarFrame.size;
CGFloat statusBarHeight = (isPortrait ? statusBarSize.height : statusBarSize.width);

How to increase timeout for a single test case in mocha

(since I ran into this today)

Be careful when using ES2015 fat arrow syntax:

This will fail :

it('accesses the network', done => {

  this.timeout(500); // will not work

  // *this* binding refers to parent function scope in fat arrow functions!
  // i.e. the *this* object of the describe function

  done();
});

EDIT: Why it fails:

As @atoth mentions in the comments, fat arrow functions do not have their own this binding. Therefore, it's not possible for the it function to bind to this of the callback and provide a timeout function.

Bottom line: Don't use arrow functions for functions that need an increased timeout.

Npm install cannot find module 'semver'

I was getting same issue but solve this issue with an below command.

npm install semver

I keep getting "Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token o"

The problem is very simple

jQuery.get('wokab.json', function(data) {
    var glacier = JSON.parse(data);
});

You're parsing it twice. get uses the dataType='json', so data is already in json format. Use $.ajax({ dataType: 'json' ... to specifically set the returned data type!

Giving my function access to outside variable

Global $myArr;
$myArr = array();

function someFuntion(){
    global $myArr;

    $myVal = //some processing here to determine value of $myVal
    $myArr[] = $myVal;
}

Be forewarned, generally people stick away from globals as it has some downsides.

You could try this

function someFuntion($myArr){
    $myVal = //some processing here to determine value of $myVal
    $myArr[] = $myVal;
    return $myArr;
}
$myArr = someFunction($myArr);

That would make it so you aren't relying on Globals.

How to remove/delete a large file from commit history in Git repository?

I ran into this with a bitbucket account, where I had accidentally stored ginormous *.jpa backups of my site.

git filter-branch --prune-empty --index-filter 'git rm -rf --cached --ignore-unmatch MY-BIG-DIRECTORY-OR-FILE' --tag-name-filter cat -- --all

Relpace MY-BIG-DIRECTORY with the folder in question to completely rewrite your history (including tags).

Discard all and get clean copy of latest revision?

hg up -C

This will remove all the changes and update to the latest head in the current branch.

And you can turn on purge extension to be able to remove all unversioned files too.

Android: how to hide ActionBar on certain activities

The above answers would help with the ActionBar thing. To add to it, use the following code in case you are using the Splash Screen: Use this before you set the content view:

    getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);

Just to clarify, here's how you do it:

    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN,WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

This would make your screen a full screen, i.e remove the top bar where you see the network bar, etc

Extending from two classes

Java does not support multiple inheritance, but you can try to implement two or more interface.

is not JSON serializable

class CountryListView(ListView):
     model = Country

    def render_to_response(self, context, **response_kwargs):

         return HttpResponse(json.dumps(list(self.get_queryset().values_list('code', flat=True))),mimetype="application/json")

fixed the problem

also mimetype is important.

Python 3 string.join() equivalent?

'.'.join() or ".".join().. So any string instance has the method join()

How to crop an image using PIL?

(left, upper, right, lower) means two points,

  1. (left, upper)
  2. (right, lower)

with an 800x600 pixel image, the image's left upper point is (0, 0), the right lower point is (800, 600).

So, for cutting the image half:

from PIL import Image
img = Image.open("ImageName.jpg")

img_left_area = (0, 0, 400, 600)
img_right_area = (400, 0, 800, 600)

img_left = img.crop(img_left_area)
img_right = img.crop(img_right_area)

img_left.show()
img_right.show()

Coordinate System

The Python Imaging Library uses a Cartesian pixel coordinate system, with (0,0) in the upper left corner. Note that the coordinates refer to the implied pixel corners; the centre of a pixel addressed as (0, 0) actually lies at (0.5, 0.5).

Coordinates are usually passed to the library as 2-tuples (x, y). Rectangles are represented as 4-tuples, with the upper left corner given first. For example, a rectangle covering all of an 800x600 pixel image is written as (0, 0, 800, 600).

Send raw ZPL to Zebra printer via USB

Found amazing simple solution - working for Chrome (Windows, not tested on Mac)

Zebra ZP 450

  1. Go here Zebra Generic Text
  2. Go precisely by the manual
  3. No COM1 or any other ports needed - USB is enough
  4. When done (named the printer ZTEXT), does not matter if it won't print a test page
  5. Turn of Spooling and enable direct printing in Printer Preferences - 1 note here 1 printer is ZP450 CPT and other ZP450 only - on the other one I do not even need to turn off spooling and it worked.
  6. Go to Chrome and printing ZPL from there with Chrome Print Dialog Box by selecting the ZTEXT printer (Generic / Text) Printer (Do not choose Windows Dialog Box) - we needed this for Chrome to be working

How to cast from List<Double> to double[] in Java?

High performance - every Double object wraps a single double value. If you want to store all these values into a double[] array, then you have to iterate over the collection of Double instances. A O(1) mapping is not possible, this should be the fastest you can get:

 double[] target = new double[doubles.size()];
 for (int i = 0; i < target.length; i++) {
    target[i] = doubles.get(i).doubleValue();  // java 1.4 style
    // or:
    target[i] = doubles.get(i);                // java 1.5+ style (outboxing)
 }

Thanks for the additional question in the comments ;) Here's the sourcecode of the fitting ArrayUtils#toPrimitive method:

public static double[] toPrimitive(Double[] array) {
  if (array == null) {
    return null;
  } else if (array.length == 0) {
    return EMPTY_DOUBLE_ARRAY;
  }
  final double[] result = new double[array.length];
  for (int i = 0; i < array.length; i++) {
    result[i] = array[i].doubleValue();
  }
  return result;
}

(And trust me, I didn't use it for my first answer - even though it looks ... pretty similiar :-D )

By the way, the complexity of Marcelos answer is O(2n), because it iterates twice (behind the scenes): first to make a Double[] from the list, then to unwrap the double values.

How to call a function from a string stored in a variable?

Yes, it is possible:

How to have a default option in Angular.js select box

In my case since the default varies from case to case in the form. I add a custom attribute in the select tag.

 <select setSeletected="{{data.value}}">
      <option value="value1"> value1....
      <option value="value2"> value2....
       ......

in the directives I created a script that checks the value and when angular fills it in sets the option with that value to selected.

 .directive('setSelected', function(){
    restrict: 'A',
    link: (scope, element, attrs){
     function setSel=(){
     //test if the value is defined if not try again if so run the command
       if (typeof attrs.setSelected=='undefined'){
         window.setTimeout( function(){setSel()},300)
       }else{
         element.find('[value="'+attrs.setSelected+'"]').prop('selected',true);
       }
     }
    }

  setSel()

})

just translated this from coffescript on the fly at least the jist of it is correct if not the hole thing.

It's not the simplest way but get it done when the value varies

MySQL > Table doesn't exist. But it does (or it should)

One other answer I think is worth bringing up here (because I came here with that same problem and this turned out to be the answer for me):

Double check that the table name in your query is spelled exactly the same as it is in the database.

Kind of an obvious, newbie thing, but things like "user" vs "users" can trip people up and I thought it would be a helpful answer to have in the list here. :)

How to implement an STL-style iterator and avoid common pitfalls?

And now a keys iterator for range-based for loop.

template<typename C>
class keys_it
{
    typename C::const_iterator it_;
public:
    using key_type        = typename C::key_type;
    using pointer         = typename C::key_type*;
    using difference_type = std::ptrdiff_t;

    keys_it(const typename C::const_iterator & it) : it_(it) {}

    keys_it         operator++(int               ) /* postfix */ { return it_++         ; }
    keys_it&        operator++(                  ) /*  prefix */ { ++it_; return *this  ; }
    const key_type& operator* (                  ) const         { return it_->first    ; }
    const key_type& operator->(                  ) const         { return it_->first    ; }
    keys_it         operator+ (difference_type v ) const         { return it_ + v       ; }
    bool            operator==(const keys_it& rhs) const         { return it_ == rhs.it_; }
    bool            operator!=(const keys_it& rhs) const         { return it_ != rhs.it_; }
};

template<typename C>
class keys_impl
{
    const C & c;
public:
    keys_impl(const C & container) : c(container) {}
    const keys_it<C> begin() const { return keys_it<C>(std::begin(c)); }
    const keys_it<C> end  () const { return keys_it<C>(std::end  (c)); }
};

template<typename C>
keys_impl<C> keys(const C & container) { return keys_impl<C>(container); }

Usage:

std::map<std::string,int> my_map;
// fill my_map
for (const std::string & k : keys(my_map))
{
    // do things
}

That's what i was looking for. But nobody had it, it seems.

You get my OCD code alignment as a bonus.

As an exercise, write your own for values(my_map)

how to access downloads folder in android?

If you are using Marshmallow, you have to either:

  1. Request permissions at runtime (the user will get to allow or deny the request) or:
  2. The user must go into Settings -> Apps -> {Your App} -> Permissions and grant storage access.

This is because in Marshmallow, Google completely revamped how permissions work.

Are the days of passing const std::string & as a parameter over?

I've copy/pasted the answer from this question here, and changed the names and spelling to fit this question.

Here is code to measure what is being asked:

#include <iostream>

struct string
{
    string() {}
    string(const string&) {std::cout << "string(const string&)\n";}
    string& operator=(const string&) {std::cout << "string& operator=(const string&)\n";return *this;}
#if (__has_feature(cxx_rvalue_references))
    string(string&&) {std::cout << "string(string&&)\n";}
    string& operator=(string&&) {std::cout << "string& operator=(string&&)\n";return *this;}
#endif

};

#if PROCESS == 1

string
do_something(string inval)
{
    // do stuff
    return inval;
}

#elif PROCESS == 2

string
do_something(const string& inval)
{
    string return_val = inval;
    // do stuff
    return return_val;
}

#if (__has_feature(cxx_rvalue_references))

string
do_something(string&& inval)
{
    // do stuff
    return std::move(inval);
}

#endif

#endif

string source() {return string();}

int main()
{
    std::cout << "do_something with lvalue:\n\n";
    string x;
    string t = do_something(x);
#if (__has_feature(cxx_rvalue_references))
    std::cout << "\ndo_something with xvalue:\n\n";
    string u = do_something(std::move(x));
#endif
    std::cout << "\ndo_something with prvalue:\n\n";
    string v = do_something(source());
}

For me this outputs:

$ clang++ -std=c++11 -stdlib=libc++ -DPROCESS=1 test.cpp
$ a.out
do_something with lvalue:

string(const string&)
string(string&&)

do_something with xvalue:

string(string&&)
string(string&&)

do_something with prvalue:

string(string&&)
$ clang++ -std=c++11 -stdlib=libc++ -DPROCESS=2 test.cpp
$ a.out
do_something with lvalue:

string(const string&)

do_something with xvalue:

string(string&&)

do_something with prvalue:

string(string&&)

The table below summarizes my results (using clang -std=c++11). The first number is the number of copy constructions and the second number is the number of move constructions:

+----+--------+--------+---------+
|    | lvalue | xvalue | prvalue |
+----+--------+--------+---------+
| p1 |  1/1   |  0/2   |   0/1   |
+----+--------+--------+---------+
| p2 |  1/0   |  0/1   |   0/1   |
+----+--------+--------+---------+

The pass-by-value solution requires only one overload but costs an extra move construction when passing lvalues and xvalues. This may or may not be acceptable for any given situation. Both solutions have advantages and disadvantages.

Proper use of the IDisposable interface

I see a lot of answers have shifted to talk about using IDisposable for both managed and unmanaged resources. I'd suggest this article as one of the best explanations that I've found for how IDisposable should actually be used.

https://www.codeproject.com/Articles/29534/IDisposable-What-Your-Mother-Never-Told-You-About

For the actual question; should you use IDisposable to clean up managed objects that are taking up a lot of memory the short answer would be no. The reason is that once you Dispose of an IDisposable you should be letting it go out of scope. At that point any referenced child objects are also out of scope and will get collected.

The only real exception to this would be if you have a lot of memory tied up in managed objects and you've blocked that thread waiting for some operation to complete. If those objects where not going to be needed after that call completed then setting those references to null might allow the garbage collector to collect them sooner. But that scenario would represent bad code that needed to be refactored - not a use case of IDisposable.

How to return a value from pthread threads in C?

Here is a correct solution. In this case tdata is allocated in the main thread, and there is a space for the thread to place its result.

#include <pthread.h>
#include <stdio.h>

typedef struct thread_data {
   int a;
   int b;
   int result;

} thread_data;

void *myThread(void *arg)
{
   thread_data *tdata=(thread_data *)arg;

   int a=tdata->a;
   int b=tdata->b;
   int result=a+b;

   tdata->result=result;
   pthread_exit(NULL);
}

int main()
{
   pthread_t tid;
   thread_data tdata;

   tdata.a=10;
   tdata.b=32;

   pthread_create(&tid, NULL, myThread, (void *)&tdata);
   pthread_join(tid, NULL);

   printf("%d + %d = %d\n", tdata.a, tdata.b, tdata.result);

   return 0;
}

Best way to implement multi-language/globalization in large .NET project

Standard resource files are easier. However, if you have any language dependent data such as lookup tables then you will have to manage two resource sets.

I haven't done it, but in my next project I would implement a database resource provider. I found how to do it on MSDN:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa905797.aspx

I also found this implementation:

DBResource Provider

Do C# Timers elapse on a separate thread?

It depends. The System.Timers.Timer has two modes of operation.

If SynchronizingObject is set to an ISynchronizeInvoke instance then the Elapsed event will execute on the thread hosting the synchronizing object. Usually these ISynchronizeInvoke instances are none other than plain old Control and Form instances that we are all familiar with. So in that case the Elapsed event is invoked on the UI thread and it behaves similar to the System.Windows.Forms.Timer. Otherwise, it really depends on the specific ISynchronizeInvoke instance that was used.

If SynchronizingObject is null then the Elapsed event is invoked on a ThreadPool thread and it behaves similar to the System.Threading.Timer. In fact, it actually uses a System.Threading.Timer behind the scenes and does the marshaling operation after it receives the timer callback if needed.

Populating a ListView using an ArrayList?

Here's an example of how you could implement a list view:

 @Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

    //We have our list view
    final ListView dynamic = findViewById(R.id.dynamic);

    //Create an array of elements
    final ArrayList<String> classes = new ArrayList<>();
    classes.add("Data Structures");
    classes.add("Assembly Language");
    classes.add("Calculus 3");
    classes.add("Switching Systems");
    classes.add("Analysis Tools");

    //Create adapter for ArrayList
    final ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<>(this,android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, classes);

    //Insert Adapter into List
    dynamic.setAdapter(adapter);

    //set click functionality for each list item
    dynamic.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
        @Override
        public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
            Log.i("User clicked ", classes.get(position));
        }
    });

ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

I've faced the exactly same problem but I've fixed it with another approache.

Using Ubuntu 18.04, first disable systemd-resolved service.

sudo systemctl disable systemd-resolved.service

Stop the service

sudo systemctl stop systemd-resolved.service

Then, remove the link to /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf in /etc/resolv.conf

sudo rm /etc/resolv.conf

Add a manually created resolv.conf in /etc/

sudo vim /etc/resolv.conf

Add your prefered DNS server there

nameserver 208.67.222.222

I've tested this with success.

}

now I can toggle the terminal by pressing "cmd + `"

Java Refuses to Start - Could not reserve enough space for object heap

What is the JVM used ? I know that BEA JRockit does not exceed 1850mB for max heap size. It does not fail but warns the user that it will not use more than 1850mB.

I don't know why there is such a limit but I know it exists for BEA JRockit.

Best regards.

How to put an image in div with CSS?

This answer by Jaap :

}?

you can try it on this link : http://jsfiddle.net/XAh2d/

This has been tested on Chrome, firefox and Safari. (I'm on a mac, so if someone has the result on IE, tell me to add it)

Filter Pyspark dataframe column with None value

You can use Column.isNull / Column.isNotNull:

df.where(col("dt_mvmt").isNull())

df.where(col("dt_mvmt").isNotNull())

If you want to simply drop NULL values you can use na.drop with subset argument:

df.na.drop(subset=["dt_mvmt"])

Equality based comparisons with NULL won't work because in SQL NULL is undefined so any attempt to compare it with another value returns NULL:

sqlContext.sql("SELECT NULL = NULL").show()
## +-------------+
## |(NULL = NULL)|
## +-------------+
## |         null|
## +-------------+

sqlContext.sql("SELECT NULL != NULL").show()
## +-------------------+
## |(NOT (NULL = NULL))|
## +-------------------+
## |               null|
## +-------------------+

The only valid method to compare value with NULL is IS / IS NOT which are equivalent to the isNull / isNotNull method calls.

Does Eclipse have line-wrap

Eclipse Neon (4.6), release date June 2016, includes word wrap for text editors. It's disabled by default, and can be activated and deactivated using the key shortcut Alt+Shift+Y (on Mac OS, Cmd-Opt-Y). Some editors also supply a tool bar button for activating word wrap.

In what cases do I use malloc and/or new?

From a lower perspective, new will initialize all the memory before giving the memory whereas malloc will keep the original content of the memory.

What is the purpose for using OPTION(MAXDOP 1) in SQL Server?

Adding my two cents, based on a performance issue I observed.

If simple queries are getting parellelized unnecessarily, it can bring more problems than solving one. However, before adding MAXDOP into the query as "knee-jerk" fix, there are some server settings to check.

In Jeremiah Peschka - Five SQL Server Settings to Change, MAXDOP and "COST THRESHOLD FOR PARALLELISM" (CTFP) are mentioned as important settings to check.

Note: Paul White mentioned max server memory aslo as a setting to check, in a response to Performance problem after migration from SQL Server 2005 to 2012. A good kb article to read is Using large amounts of memory can result in an inefficient plan in SQL Server

Jonathan Kehayias - Tuning ‘cost threshold for parallelism’ from the Plan Cache helps to find out good value for CTFP.

Why is cost threshold for parallelism ignored?

Aaron Bertrand - Six reasons you should be nervous about parallelism has a discussion about some scenario where MAXDOP is the solution.

Parallelism-Inhibiting Components are mentioned in Paul White - Forcing a Parallel Query Execution Plan

php mail setup in xampp

XAMPP should have come with a "fake" sendmail program. In that case, you can use sendmail as well:

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
; http://php.net/smtp
;SMTP = localhost
; http://php.net/smtp-port
;smtp_port = 25

; For Win32 only.
; http://php.net/sendmail-from
;sendmail_from = [email protected]

; For Unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i").
; http://php.net/sendmail-path
sendmail_path = "C:/xampp/sendmail/sendmail.exe -t -i"

Sendmail should have a sendmail.ini with it; it should be configured as so:

# Example for a user configuration file

# Set default values for all following accounts.
defaults
logfile "C:\xampp\sendmail\sendmail.log"

# Mercury
#account Mercury
#host localhost
#from postmaster@localhost
#auth off

# A freemail service example
account ACCOUNTNAME_HERE
tls on
tls_certcheck off
host smtp.gmail.com
from EMAIL_HERE
auth on
user EMAIL_HERE
password PASSWORD_HERE

# Set a default account
account default : ACCOUNTNAME_HERE

Of course, replace ACCOUNTNAME_HERE with an arbitrary account name, replace EMAIL_HERE with a valid email (such as a Gmail or Hotmail), and replace PASSWORD_HERE with the password to your email. Now, you should be able to send mail. Remember to restart Apache (from the control panel or the batch files) to allow the changes to PHP to work.

How to SELECT a dropdown list item by value programmatically

Ian Boyd (above) had a great answer -- Add this to Ian Boyd's class "WebExtensions" to select an item in a dropdownlist based on text:

/// <summary>
/// Selects the item in the list control that contains the specified text, if it exists.
/// </summary>
/// <param name="dropDownList"></param>
/// <param name="selectedText">The text of the item in the list control to select</param>
/// <returns>Returns true if the value exists in the list control, false otherwise</returns>
public static Boolean SetSelectedText(this DropDownList dropDownList, String selectedText)
{
    ListItem selectedListItem = dropDownList.Items.FindByText(selectedText);
    if (selectedListItem != null)
    {
        selectedListItem.Selected = true;
        return true;
    }
    else
        return false;
}

To call it:

WebExtensions.SetSelectedText(MyDropDownList, "MyValue");

react change class name on state change

Below is a fully functional example of what I believe you're trying to do (with a functional snippet).

Explanation

Based on your question, you seem to be modifying 1 property in state for all of your elements. That's why when you click on one, all of them are being changed.

In particular, notice that the state tracks an index of which element is active. When MyClickable is clicked, it tells the Container its index, Container updates the state, and subsequently the isActive property of the appropriate MyClickables.

Example

_x000D_
_x000D_
class Container extends React.Component {_x000D_
  state = {_x000D_
    activeIndex: null_x000D_

Update: "Loops"

In response to a comment about a "loop" version, I believe the question is about rendering an array of MyClickable elements. We won't use a loop, but map, which is typical in React + JSX. The following should give you the same result as above, but it works with an array of elements.

// New render method for `Container`
render() {
  const clickables = [
    { name: "a" },
    { name: "b" },
    { name: "c" },
  ]

  return <div>
      { clickables.map(function(clickable, i) {
          return <MyClickable key={ clickable.name }
            name={ clickable.name }
            index={ i }
            isActive={ this.state.activeIndex === i }
            onClick={ this.handleClick }
          />
        } )
      }
  </div>
}

Search for a string in Enum and return the Enum

One thing that might be useful to you (besides the already valid/good answers provided so far) is the StringEnum idea provided here

With this you can define your enumerations as classes (the examples are in vb.net):

< StringEnumRegisteredOnly(), DebuggerStepThrough(), ImmutableObject(True)> Public NotInheritable Class eAuthenticationMethod Inherits StringEnumBase(Of eAuthenticationMethod)

Private Sub New(ByVal StrValue As String)
  MyBase.New(StrValue)
End Sub

< Description("Use User Password Authentication")> Public Shared ReadOnly UsernamePassword As New eAuthenticationMethod("UP")

< Description("Use Windows Authentication")> Public Shared ReadOnly WindowsAuthentication As New eAuthenticationMethod("W")

End Class

And now you could use the this class as you would use an enum: eAuthenticationMethod.WindowsAuthentication and this would be essentially like assigning the 'W' the logical value of WindowsAuthentication (inside the enum) and if you were to view this value from a properties window (or something else that uses the System.ComponentModel.Description property) you would get "Use Windows Authentication".

I've been using this for a long time now and it makes the code more clear in intent.

How to pass a JSON array as a parameter in URL

I know this could be a later post, but, for new visitors I will share my solution, as the OP was asking for a way to pass a JSON object via GET (not POST as suggested in other answers).

  1. Take the JSON object and convert it to string (JSON.stringify)
  2. Take the string and encode it in Base64 (you can find some useful info on this here
  3. Append it to the URL and make the GET call
  4. Reverse the process. decode and parse it into an object

I have used this in some cases where I only can do GET calls and it works. Also, this solution is practically cross language.

Android - Dynamically Add Views into View

Use the LayoutInflater to create a view based on your layout template, and then inject it into the view where you need it.

LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater) getApplicationContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View v = vi.inflate(R.layout.your_layout, null);

// fill in any details dynamically here
TextView textView = (TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.a_text_view);
textView.setText("your text");

// insert into main view
ViewGroup insertPoint = (ViewGroup) findViewById(R.id.insert_point);
insertPoint.addView(v, 0, new ViewGroup.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT));

You may have to adjust the index where you want to insert the view.

Additionally, set the LayoutParams according to how you would like it to fit in the parent view. e.g. with FILL_PARENT, or MATCH_PARENT, etc.

What is the difference between README and README.md in GitHub projects?

.md is markdown. README.md is used to generate the html summary you see at the bottom of projects. Github has their own flavor of Markdown.

Order of Preference: If you have two files named README and README.md, the file named README.md is preferred, and it will be used to generate github's html summary.

FWIW, Stack Overflow uses local Markdown modifications as well (also see Stack Overflow's C# Markdown Processor)

CSS hide scroll bar, but have element scrollable

if you really want to get rid of the scrollbar, split the information up into two separate pages.

Usability guidelines on scrollbars by Jakob Nielsen:

There are five essential usability guidelines for scrolling and scrollbars:

  • Offer a scrollbar if an area has scrolling content. Don't rely on auto-scrolling or on dragging, which people might not notice.
  • Hide scrollbars if all content is visible. If people see a scrollbar, they assume there's additional content and will be frustrated if they can't scroll.
  • Comply with GUI standards and use scrollbars that look like scrollbars.
  • Avoid horizontal scrolling on Web pages and minimize it elsewhere.
  • Display all important information above the fold. Users often decide whether to stay or leave based on what they can see without scrolling. Plus they only allocate 20% of their attention below the fold.

To make your scrollbar only visible when it is needed (i.e. when there is content to scroll down to), use overflow: auto.

Why is `input` in Python 3 throwing NameError: name... is not defined

I got the same error. In the terminal when I typed "python filename.py", with this command, python2 was tring to run python3 code, because the is written python3. It runs correctly when I type "python3 filename.py" in the terminal. I hope this works for you too.

String replace a Backslash

s.replaceAll ("\\\\", "");

You need to mask a backslash in your source, and for regex, you need to mask it again, so for every backslash you need two, which ends in 4.

But

s = "http://www.example.com\\/value";

needs two backslashes in source as well.

A simple scenario using wait() and notify() in java

Have you taken a look at this Java Tutorial?

Further, I'd advise you to stay the heck away from playing with this kind of stuff in real software. It's good to play with it so you know what it is, but concurrency has pitfalls all over the place. It's better to use higher level abstractions and synchronized collections or JMS queues if you are building software for other people.

That is at least what I do. I'm not a concurrency expert so I stay away from handling threads by hand wherever possible.

Java Byte Array to String to Byte Array

Its simple to convert byte array to string and string back to byte array in java. we need to know when to use 'new' in the right way. It can be done as follows:

byte array to string conversion:

byte[] bytes = initializeByteArray();
String str = new String(bytes);

String to byte array conversion:

String str = "Hello"
byte[] bytes = str.getBytes();

For more details, look at: http://evverythingatonce.blogspot.in/2014/01/tech-talkbyte-array-and-string.html

Delete with Join in MySQL

Since you are selecting multiple tables, The table to delete from is no longer unambiguous. You need to select:

DELETE posts FROM posts
INNER JOIN projects ON projects.project_id = posts.project_id
WHERE projects.client_id = :client_id

In this case, table_name1 and table_name2 are the same table, so this will work:

DELETE projects FROM posts INNER JOIN [...]

You can even delete from both tables if you wanted to:

DELETE posts, projects FROM posts INNER JOIN [...]

Note that order by and limit don't work for multi-table deletes.

Also be aware that if you declare an alias for a table, you must use the alias when referring to the table:

DELETE p FROM posts as p INNER JOIN [...]

node.js: cannot find module 'request'

Go to directory of your project

mkdir TestProject
cd TestProject

Make this directory a root of your project (this will create a default package.json file)

npm init --yes

Install required npm module and save it as a project dependency (it will appear in package.json)

npm install request --save

Create a test.js file in project directory with code from package example

var request = require('request');
request('http://www.google.com', function (error, response, body) {
  if (!error && response.statusCode == 200) {
    console.log(body); // Print the google web page.
  }
});

Your project directory should look like this

TestProject/
- node_modules/
- package.json
- test.js

Now just run node inside your project directory

node test.js

Example here

You can place the css in a separate file, which is recommended. In my example, I created a file called styles.css and placed my css rules in it. Then include it in the html document in the <head> section as follows:

<head>
    <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
</head>

The alternative, not creating a seperate css file, not recommended at all... Create <style> block in your <head> in the html document. Then just place your rules there.

<head>
 <style type="text/css">
   .centerText{
       text-align: center;
    }
 </style>
</head>

C# testing to see if a string is an integer?

It is possible to try this as well:

    var ix=Convert.ToInt32(x);
    if (x==ix) //if this condition is met, then x is integer
    {
        //your code here
    }

           print n
            if x % n == 0:
                return False
                break
            n = n + 1
        else:
            return True

Which equals operator (== vs ===) should be used in JavaScript comparisons?

It means equality without type coercion type coercion means JavaScript do not automatically convert any other data types to string data types

0==false   // true,although they are different types

0===false  // false,as they are different types

2=='2' //true,different types,one is string and another is integer but
            javaScript convert 2 to string by using == operator

2==='2' //false because by using === operator ,javaScript do not convert
           integer to string

2===2 //true because both have same value and same types

Normaly you should never use @ unless this is the only solution. In that specific case the function dns_check_record should be use first to know if the record exists.

How to properly overload the << operator for an ostream?

You have declared your function as friend. It's not a member of the class. You should remove Matrix:: from the implementation. friend means that the specified function (which is not a member of the class) can access private member variables. The way you implemented the function is like an instance method for Matrix class which is wrong.

You need to load your JNI library.

System.loadLibrary loads the DLL from the JVM path (JDK bin path).

Python SQL query string formatting

This is slightly modified version of @aandis answer. When it comes to raw string, prefix 'r' character before the string. For example:

sql = r"""
    SELECT field1, field2, field3, field4
      FROM table
     WHERE condition1 = 1
       AND condition2 = 2;
"""

This is recommended when your query has any special character like '\' which requires escaping and lint tools like flake8 reports it as error.

How do I check if a C++ std::string starts with a certain string, and convert a substring to an int?

You would do it like this:

std::string prefix("--foo=");
if (!arg.compare(0, prefix.size(), prefix))
    foo_value = std::stoi(arg.substr(prefix.size()));

Looking for a lib such as Boost.ProgramOptions that does this for you is also a good idea.

print join("\n", @new_values);

/^2[\d].[\d][A-za-z]?/ = vaues starting from 2 here you can put any regular expression

Using openssl to get the certificate from a server

It turns out there is more complexity here: I needed to provide many more details to get this rolling. I think its something to do with the fact that its a connection that needs client authentication, and the hankshake needed more info to continue to the stage where the certificates were dumped.

Here is my working command:

openssl s_client -connect host:port -key our_private_key.pem -showcerts \
                 -cert our_server-signed_cert.pem

Hopefully this is a nudge in the right direction for anyone who could do with some more info.

How to automatically update an application without ClickOnce?

There are a lot of questions already about this, so I will refer you to those.

One thing you want to make sure to prevent the need for uninstallation, is that you use the same upgrade code on every release, but change the product code. These values are located in the Installshield project properties.

Some references:

Unexpected 'else' in "else" error

You need to rearrange your curly brackets. Your first statement is complete, so R interprets it as such and produces syntax errors on the other lines. Your code should look like:

if (dsnt<0.05) {
  wilcox.test(distance[result=='nt'],distance[result=='t'],alternative=c("two.sided"),paired=TRUE)
} else if (dst<0.05) {
  wilcox.test(distance[result=='nt'],distance[result=='t'],alternative=c("two.sided"),paired=TRUE)
} else {
  t.test(distance[result=='nt'],distance[result=='t'],alternative=c("two.sided"),paired=TRUE)
}

To put it more simply, if you have:

if(condition == TRUE) x <- TRUE
else x <- FALSE

Then R reads the first line and because it is complete, runs that in its entirety. When it gets to the next line, it goes "Else? Else what?" because it is a completely new statement. To have R interpret the else as part of the preceding if statement, you must have curly brackets to tell R that you aren't yet finished:

if(condition == TRUE) {x <- TRUE
 } else {x <- FALSE}

fatal: 'origin' does not appear to be a git repository

It is possible the other branch you try to pull from is out of synch; so before adding and removing remote try to (if you are trying to pull from master)

git pull origin master

for me that simple call solved those error messages:

  • fatal: 'master' does not appear to be a git repository
  • fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

maven "cannot find symbol" message unhelpful

I was getting a similar problem in Eclipse STS when trying to run a Maven install on a project. I had changed some versions in the dependencies of my pom.xml file for that project and the projects that those dependencies pointed to. I solved it by running a Maven install on all the projects I changed and then running install on the original one again.

How to pass parameters in GET requests with jQuery

Here is the syntax using jQuery $.get

$.get(url, data, successCallback, datatype)

So in your case, that would equate to,

var url = 'ajax.asp';
var data = { ajaxid: 4, UserID: UserID, EmailAddress: EmailAddress };
var datatype = 'jsonp';

function success(response) {
// do something here
}

$.get('ajax.aspx', data, success, datatype)

Note $.get does not give you the opportunity to set an error handler. But there are several ways to do it either using $.ajaxSetup(), $.ajaxError() or chaining a .fail on your $.get like below

$.get(url, data, success, datatype)
 .fail(function(){
})

The reason for setting the datatype as 'jsonp' is due to browser same origin policy issues, but if you are making the request on the same domain where your javascript is hosted, you should be fine with datatype set to json.

If you don't want to use the jquery $.get then see the docs for $.ajax which allows room for more flexibility

android.content.Context.getPackageName()' on a null object reference

Due to onAttach is deprecated in API23 and above... In my Fragment, I declare and set parentActivity before hand everytime when I go into Fragment. Most likely happen due to when we pressed back button caused the context to become null. Therefore below is my solution.

private Activity parentActivity;

public void onStart(){
        super.onStart();
        parentActivity = getActivity();
//...

Convert list of ASCII codes to string (byte array) in Python

struct.pack('B' * len(integers), *integers)

*sequence means "unpack sequence" - or rather, "when calling f(..., *args ,...), let args = sequence".

sscanf in Python

There is also the parse module.

parse() is designed to be the opposite of format() (the newer string formatting function in Python 2.6 and higher).

>>> from parse import parse
>>> parse('{} fish', '1')
>>> parse('{} fish', '1 fish')
<Result ('1',) {}>
>>> parse('{} fish', '2 fish')
<Result ('2',) {}>
>>> parse('{} fish', 'red fish')
<Result ('red',) {}>
>>> parse('{} fish', 'blue fish')
<Result ('blue',) {}>

How to edit log message already committed in Subversion?

I found a nice implementation of the server side pre-rev-prop-change hook at the svnforum: https://www.svnforum.org/forum/opensource-subversion-forums/scripts-contributions/8571-pre-revprop-change-shell-script-allows-commiters-to-change-own-log-within-x-hours

It implements

  • user checking, that is only own commit messages can be edited.
  • Svn admin override; admin can edit anything.
  • time stamp comparison: only commits that are younger than certain time can be edited

Grab it from there and edit at will. I'd rather not copy it here since I am not the original author and there is no copyright notice that would allow me to do it.

Integer to IP Address - C

Hint: break up the 32-bit integer to 4 8-bit integers, and print them out.

Something along the lines of this (not compiled, YMMV):

int i = 0xDEADBEEF; // some 32-bit integer
printf("%i.%i.%i.%i",
          (i >> 24) & 0xFF,
          (i >> 16) & 0xFF,
          (i >> 8) & 0xFF,
          i & 0xFF);

How to view the Folder and Files in GAC?

Install:

gacutil -i "path_to_the_assembly"

View:

Open in Windows Explorer folder

  • .NET 1.0 - NET 3.5: c:\windows\assembly (%systemroot%\assembly)
  • .NET 4.x: %windir%\Microsoft.NET\assembly

OR gacutil –l

When you are going to install an assembly you have to specify where gacutil can find it, so you have to provide a full path as well. But when an assembly already is in GAC - gacutil know a folder path so it just need an assembly name.

Get latitude and longitude based on location name with Google Autocomplete API

I hope this can help someone in the future.

You can use the Google Geocoding API, as said before, I had to do some work with this recently, I hope this helps:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&sensor=false&libraries=places"></script>
        <script type="text/javascript">
        function initialize() {
        var address = (document.getElementById('my-address'));
        var autocomplete = new google.maps.places.Autocomplete(address);
        autocomplete.setTypes(['geocode']);
        google.maps.event.addListener(autocomplete, 'place_changed', function() {
            var place = autocomplete.getPlace();
            if (!place.geometry) {
                return;
            }

        var address = '';
        if (place.address_components) {
            address = [
                (place.address_components[0] && place.address_components[0].short_name || ''),
                (place.address_components[1] && place.address_components[1].short_name || ''),
                (place.address_components[2] && place.address_components[2].short_name || '')
                ].join(' ');
        }
      });
}
function codeAddress() {
    geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder();
    var address = document.getElementById("my-address").value;
    geocoder.geocode( { 'address': address}, function(results, status) {
      if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) {

      alert("Latitude: "+results[0].geometry.location.lat());
      alert("Longitude: "+results[0].geometry.location.lng());
      }

      else {
        alert("Geocode was not successful for the following reason: " + status);
      }
    });
  }
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);

        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <input type="text" id="my-address">
        <button id="getCords" onClick="codeAddress();">getLat&Long</button>
    </body>
</html>

Now this has also an autocomlpete function which you can see in the code, it fetches the address from the input and gets auto completed by the API while typing.

Once you have your address hit the button and you get your results via alert as required. Please also note this uses the latest API and it loads the 'places' library (when calling the API uses the 'libraries' parameter).

Hope this helps, and read the documentation for more information, cheers.

How to write loop in a Makefile?

If you're using GNU make, you could try

NUMBERS = 1 2 3 4
doit:
        $(foreach var,$(NUMBERS),./a.out $(var);)

which will generate and execute

./a.out 1; ./a.out 2; ./a.out 3; ./a.out 4;

How to make the checkbox unchecked by default always

No, there is no way in simple HTML. Javascript might be your only solution at this time..

Loop through all checkboxes in javascript and set them to unchecked:

var checkboxes = document.getElementsByTagName('input');

for (var i=0; i<checkboxes.length; i++)  {
  if (checkboxes[i].type == 'checkbox')   {
    checkboxes[i].checked = false;
  }
}

wrap it up in a onload listener and you should be fine then :)

Java: Literal percent sign in printf statement

Escaped percent sign is double percent (%%):

System.out.printf("2 out of 10 is %d%%", 20);

Copying sets Java

With Java 8 you can use stream and collect to copy the items:

Set<Item> newSet = oldSet.stream().collect(Collectors.toSet());

Or you can collect to an ImmutableSet (if you know that the set should not change):

Set<Item> newSet = oldSet.stream().collect(ImmutableSet.toImmutableSet());

`getchar()` gives the same output as the input string

According to the definition of getchar(), it reads a character from the standard input. Unfortunately stdin is mistaken for keyboard which might not be the case for getchar. getchar uses a buffer as stdin and reads a single character at a time. In your case since there is no EOF, the getchar and putchar are running multiple times and it looks to you as it the whole string is being printed out at a time. Make a small change and you will understand:

putchar(c);
printf("\n");
c = getchar();

Now look at the output compared to the original code.

Another example that will explain you the concept of getchar and buffered stdin :

void main(){
int c;
printf("Enter character");
c = getchar();
putchar();
c = getchar();
putchar();
}

Enter two characters in the first case. The second time when getchar is running are you entering any character? NO but still putchar works.

This ultimately means there is a buffer and when ever you are typing something and click enter this goes and settles in the buffer. getchar uses this buffer as stdin.

The equivalent of wrap_content and match_parent in flutter?

You can do with little Trick: Suppose you have requirement of : ( Width,Height )

Wrap_content ,Wrap_content :

 //use this as child
 Wrap(
  children: <Widget>[*your_child*])

Match_parent,Match_parent:

 //use this as child
Container(
        height: double.infinity,
    width: double.infinity,child:*your_child*)

Match_parent,Wrap_content :

 //use this as child
Row(
  mainAxisSize: MainAxisSize.max,
  children: <Widget>[*your_child*],
);

Wrap_content ,Match_parent:

 //use this as child
Column(
  mainAxisSize: MainAxisSize.max,
  children: <Widget>[your_child],
);

    System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(s + " " +s.Length );

Create a list with initial capacity in Python

The Pythonic way for this is:

x = [None] * numElements

Or whatever default value you wish to prepopulate with, e.g.

bottles = [Beer()] * 99
sea = [Fish()] * many
vegetarianPizzas = [None] * peopleOrderingPizzaNotQuiche

(Caveat Emptor: The [Beer()] * 99 syntax creates one Beer and then populates an array with 99 references to the same single instance)

Python's default approach can be pretty efficient, although that efficiency decays as you increase the number of elements.

Elements: 100000, Iterations: 144
doAppend: 3587.204933ms
doAllocate: 2701.154947ms
doGenerator: 1721.098185ms

While C++ gives (built with Microsoft Visual C++, 64-bit, optimizations enabled)

Elements: 100000, Iterations: 144
doAppend: 74.0042ms
doReserve: 27.0015ms
doAllocate: 5.0003ms

C++ debug build produces:

Elements: 100000, Iterations: 144
doAppend: 2166.12ms
doReserve: 2082.12ms
doAllocate: 273.016ms

The point here is that with Python you can achieve a 7-8% performance improvement, and if you think you're writing a high-performance application (or if you're writing something that is used in a web service or something) then that isn't to be sniffed at, but you may need to rethink your choice of language.

Also, the Python code here isn't really Python code. Switching to truly Pythonesque code here gives better performance:

import time

class Timer(object):
    def __enter__(self):
        self.start = time.time()
        return self

    def __exit__(self, *args):
        end = time.time()
        secs = end - self.start
        msecs = secs * 1000  # millisecs
        print('%fms' % msecs)

Elements   = 100000
Iterations = 144

print('Elements: %d, Iterations: %d' % (Elements, Iterations))

def doAppend():
    for x in range(Iterations):
        result = []
        for i in range(Elements):
            result.append(i)

def doAllocate():
    for x in range(Iterations):
        result = [None] * Elements
        for i in range(Elements):
            result[i] = i

def doGenerator():
    for x in range(Iterations):
        result = list(i for i in range(Elements))

def test(name, fn):
    print("%s: " % name, end="")
    with Timer() as t:
        fn()

test('doAppend', doAppend)
test('doAllocate', doAllocate)
test('doGenerator', doGenerator)

Which gives

Elements: 100000, Iterations: 144
doAppend: 2153.122902ms
doAllocate: 1346.076965ms
doGenerator: 1614.092112ms

(in 32-bit, doGenerator does better than doAllocate).

Here the gap between doAppend and doAllocate is significantly larger.

Obviously, the differences here really only apply if you are doing this more than a handful of times or if you are doing this on a heavily loaded system where those numbers are going to get scaled out by orders of magnitude, or if you are dealing with considerably larger lists.

The point here: Do it the Pythonic way for the best performance.

But if you are worrying about general, high-level performance, Python is the wrong language. The most fundamental problem being that Python function calls has traditionally been up to 300x slower than other languages due to Python features like decorators, etc. (PythonSpeed/PerformanceTips, Data Aggregation).

How to check if a file exists in Ansible?

A note on relative paths to complement the other answers.

When doing infrastructure as code I'm usually using roles and tasks that accept relative paths, specially for files defined in those roles.

Special variables like playbook_dir and role_path are very useful to create the absolute paths needed to test for existence.

How to run Visual Studio post-build events for debug build only

Add your post build event like normal. Then save your project, open it in Notepad (or your favorite editor), and add condition to the PostBuildEvent property group. Here's an example:

<PropertyGroup Condition=" '$(Configuration)' == 'Debug' ">
    <PostBuildEvent>start gpedit</PostBuildEvent>
</PropertyGroup>

How to Return partial view of another controller by controller?

Simply you could use:

PartialView("../ABC/XXX")

Disable cache for some images

Let's add another solution one to the bunch.

Adding a unique string at the end is a perfect solution.

example.jpg?646413154

Following solution extends this method and provides both the caching capability and fetch a new version when the image is updated.

When the image is updated, the filemtime will be changed.

<?php
$filename = "path/to/images/example.jpg";
$filemtime = filemtime($filename);
?>

Now output the image:

<img src="images/example.jpg?<?php echo $filemtime; ?>" >

C# "No suitable method found to override." -- but there is one

Your code as given (after the edit) compiles fine, so something else is wrong that isn't in what you posted.

Some things to check, is everything public? That includes both the class and the method.

Overload with different parameters?

Are you sure that Base is the class you think it is? I.e. is there another class by the same name that it's actually referencing?

Edit:

To answer the question in your comment, you can't override a method with different parameters, nor is there a need to. You can create a new method (with the new parameter) without the override keyword and it will work just fine.

If your intention is to prohibit calling of the base method without the parameter you can mark the method as protected instead of public. That way it can only be called from classes that inherit from Base

Push method in React Hooks (useState)?

setTheArray([...theArray, newElement]); is the simplest answer but be careful for the mutation of items in theArray. Use deep cloning of array items.

Function to calculate distance between two coordinates

I implemeneted this algorithm in typescript and ES6

export type Coordinate = {
  lat: number;
  lon: number;
};

get the distance between two points:

function getDistanceBetweenTwoPoints(cord1: Coordinate, cord2: Coordinate) {
  if (cord1.lat == cord2.lat && cord1.lon == cord2.lon) {
    return 0;
  }

  const radlat1 = (Math.PI * cord1.lat) / 180;
  const radlat2 = (Math.PI * cord2.lat) / 180;

  const theta = cord1.lon - cord2.lon;
  const radtheta = (Math.PI * theta) / 180;

  let dist =
    Math.sin(radlat1) * Math.sin(radlat2) +
    Math.cos(radlat1) * Math.cos(radlat2) * Math.cos(radtheta);

  if (dist > 1) {
    dist = 1;
  }

  dist = Math.acos(dist);
  dist = (dist * 180) / Math.PI;
  dist = dist * 60 * 1.1515;
  dist = dist * 1.609344; //convert miles to km

  return dist;
}

get the distance between an array of coordinates

export function getTotalDistance(coordinates: Coordinate[]) {
  coordinates = coordinates.filter((cord) => {
    if (cord.lat && cord.lon) {
      return true;
    }
  });

  let totalDistance = 0;

  if (!coordinates) {
    return 0;
  }

  if (coordinates.length < 2) {
    return 0;
  }

  for (let i = 0; i < coordinates.length - 2; i++) {
    if (
      !coordinates[i].lon ||
      !coordinates[i].lat ||
      !coordinates[i + 1].lon ||
      !coordinates[i + 1].lat
    ) {
      totalDistance = totalDistance;
    }
    totalDistance =
      totalDistance +
      getDistanceBetweenTwoPoints(coordinates[i], coordinates[i + 1]);
  }

  return totalDistance.toFixed(2);
}

Display current time in 12 hour format with AM/PM

Just replace below statement and it will work.

SimpleDateFormat formatDate = new SimpleDateFormat("hh:mm a");

How to add a touch event to a UIView?

In Swift 4.2 and Xcode 10

Use UITapGestureRecognizer for to add touch event

//Add tap gesture to your view
let tap = UITapGestureRecognizer(target: self, action: #selector(handleGesture))
yourView.addGestureRecognizer(tap)

// GestureRecognizer
@objc func handleGesture(gesture: UITapGestureRecognizer) -> Void {
//Write your code here
}

If you want to use SharedClass

//This is my shared class
import UIKit

class SharedClass: NSObject {

    static let sharedInstance = SharedClass()

    //Tap gesture function
    func addTapGesture(view: UIView, target: Any, action: Selector) {
        let tap = UITapGestureRecognizer(target: target, action: action)
        view.addGestureRecognizer(tap)
    }
}

I have 3 views in my ViewController called view1, view2 and view3.

override func viewDidLoad() {
    super.viewDidLoad()
    //Add gestures to your views
    SharedClass.sharedInstance.addTapGesture(view: view1, target: self, action: #selector(handleGesture))
    SharedClass.sharedInstance.addTapGesture(view: view2, target: self, action: #selector(handleGesture))
    SharedClass.sharedInstance.addTapGesture(view: view3, target: self, action: #selector(handleGesture2))

}

// GestureRecognizer
@objc func handleGesture(gesture: UITapGestureRecognizer) -> Void {
    print("printed 1&2...")
}
// GestureRecognizer
@objc func handleGesture2(gesture: UITapGestureRecognizer) -> Void {
    print("printed3...")
}

port forwarding in windows

I've used this little utility whenever the need arises: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmapper/freeware.htm

The last time this utility was updated was in 2009. I noticed on my Win10 machine, it hangs for a few seconds when opening new windows sometimes. Other then that UI glitch, it still does its job fine.

How can I call the 'base implementation' of an overridden virtual method?

You can't, and you shouldn't. That's what polymorphism is for, so that each object has its own way of doing some "base" things.

Jquery - animate height toggle

You can use the toggle-event(docs) method to assign 2 (or more) handlers that toggle with each click.

Example: http://jsfiddle.net/SQHQ2/1/

$("#topbar").toggle(function(){
    $(this).animate({height:40},200);
},function(){
    $(this).animate({height:10},200);
});

or you could create your own toggle behavior:

Example: http://jsfiddle.net/SQHQ2/

$("#topbar").click((function() {
    var i = 0;
    return function(){
        $(this).animate({height:(++i % 2) ? 40 : 10},200);
    }
})());
