Programs & Examples On #Asp.net mvc validation

ASP.NET MVC validation is a method for validating your models with property attributes. It works for client and server side validation.

Stop a gif animation onload, on mouseover start the activation

There is only one way from what I am aware.

Have 2 images, first a jpeg with first frame(or whatever you want) of the gif and the actual gif.

Load the page with the jpeg in place and on mouse over replace the jpeg with the gif. You can preload the gifs if you want or if they are of big size show a loading while the gif is loading and then replace the jpeg with it.

If you whant it to bi linear as in have the gif play on mouse over, stop it on mouse out and then resume play from the frame you stopped, then this cannot be done with javascript+gif combo.

Where does Hive store files in HDFS?

Summarize few points posted earlier, in hive-site.xml, property hive.metastore.warehouse.dir specifies where the files located under hadoop HDFS

<property>
   <name>hive.metastore.warehouse.dir</name>
   <value>/user/hive/warehouse</value>
</property>

To view files, use this command:

hadoop fs -ls /user/hive/warehouse

or

http://localhost:50070
Utilities > Browse the file system
or
http://localhost:50070/explorer.html#/

tested under hadoop-2.7.3, hive-2.1.1

Making TextView scrollable on Android

Add this to your XML layout:

android:ellipsize="marquee"
android:focusable="false"
android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever"
android:scrollHorizontally="true"
android:singleLine="true"
android:text="To Make An textView Scrollable Inside The TextView Using Marquee"

And in code you have to write the following lines:

textview.setSelected(true);
textView.setMovementMethod(new ScrollingMovementMethod());

What does it mean when a PostgreSQL process is "idle in transaction"?

As mentioned here: Re: BUG #4243: Idle in transaction it is probably best to check your pg_locks table to see what is being locked and that might give you a better clue where the problem lies.

"Automatic" vs "Automatic (Delayed start)"

In short, services set to Automatic will start during the boot process, while services set to start as Delayed will start shortly after boot.

Starting your service Delayed improves the boot performance of your server and has security benefits which are outlined in the article Adriano linked to in the comments.

Update: "shortly after boot" is actually 2 minutes after the last "automatic" service has started, by default. This can be configured by a registry key, according to Windows Internals and other sources (3,4).

The registry keys of interest (At least in some versions of windows) are:

  • HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\<service name>\DelayedAutostart will have the value 1 if delayed, 0 if not.
  • HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AutoStartDelay or HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\AutoStartDelay (on Windows 10): decimal number of seconds to wait, may need to create this one. Applies globally to all Delayed services.

jquery onclick change css background image

I think this should be:

$('.home').click(function() {
     $(this).css('background', 'url(images/tabs3.png)');
 });

and remove this:

<div class="home" onclick="function()">
     //-----------^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^---------no need for this

You have to make sure you have a correct path to your image.

How to disable scientific notation?

Implementing INotifyPropertyChanged - does a better way exist?

Whilst there are obviously lots of ways to do this, with the exception of the AOP magic answers, none of the answers seem to look at setting a Model's property directly from the view model without having a local field to reference.

The issue is you can't reference a property. However, you can use an Action to set that property.

protected bool TrySetProperty<T>(Action<T> property, T newValue, T oldValue, [CallerMemberName] string propertyName = null)
{
    if (EqualityComparer<T>.Default.Equals(oldValue, newValue))
    {
        return false;
    }

    property(newValue);
    RaisePropertyChanged(propertyName);
    return true;
}

This can be used like the following code extract.

public int Prop {
    get => model.Prop;
    set => TrySetProperty(x => model.Prop = x, value, model.Prop);
}

Check out this BitBucket repo for a full implementation of the method and a few different ways of achieving the same result, including a method that uses LINQ and a method that uses reflection. Do note that these methods are slower performance wise.

How to make a parent div auto size to the width of its children divs

The parent div (I assume the outermost div) is display: block and will fill up all available area of its container (in this case, the body) that it can. Use a different display type -- inline-block is probably what you are going for:

How to avoid "RuntimeError: dictionary changed size during iteration" error?

Python 3 does not allow deletion while iterating (using for loop above) dictionary. There are various alternatives to do; one simple way is the to change following line

for i in list(x)

How do I get a list of all subdomains of a domain?

You can use:

$ host -l domain.com

Under the hood, this uses the AXFR query mentioned above. You might not be allowed to do this though. In that case, you'll get a transfer failed message.

Can I set state inside a useEffect hook

? 1. Can I set state inside a useEffect hook?

In principle, you can set state freely where you need it - including inside useEffect and even during rendering. Just make sure to avoid infinite loops by settting Hook deps properly and/or state conditionally.

? 2. Lets say I have some state that is dependent on some other state. Is it appropriate to create a hook that observes A and sets B inside the useEffect hook?

You just described the classic use case for useReducer:

useReducer is usually preferable to useState when you have complex state logic that involves multiple sub-values or when the next state depends on the previous one. (React docs)

When setting a state variable depends on the current value of another state variable, you might want to try replacing them both with useReducer. [...] When you find yourself writing setSomething(something => ...), it’s a good time to consider using a reducer instead. (Dan Abramov, Overreacted blog)

? 3. Will the effects cascade such that, when I click the button, the first effect will fire, causing b to change, causing the second effect to fire, before the next render?

useEffect always runs after the render is committed and DOM changes are applied. The first effect fires, changes b and causes a re-render. After this render has completed, second effect will run due to b changes.

? 4. Are there any performance downsides to structuring code like this?

Yes. By wrapping the state change of b in a separate useEffect for a, the browser has an additional layout/paint phase - these effects are potentially visible for the user. If there is no way you want give useReducer a try, you could change b state together with a directly:

Can I have multiple :before pseudo-elements for the same element?

If your main element has some child elements or text, you could make use of it.

Position your main element relative (or absolute/fixed) and use both :before and :after positioned absolute (in my situation it had to be absolute, don't know about your's).

Now if you want one more pseudo-element, attach an absolute :before to one of the main element's children (if you have only text, put it in a span, now you have an element), which is not relative/absolute/fixed.

This element will start acting like his owner is your main element.

HTML

<div class="circle">
    <span>Some text</span>
</div>

CSS

.circle {
    position: relative; /* or absolute/fixed */
}

.circle:before {
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    /* more styles: width, height, etc */
}

.circle:after {
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    /* more styles: width, height, etc */
}

.circle span {
    /* not relative/absolute/fixed */
}

.circle span:before {
    position: absolute;
    content: "";
    /* more styles: width, height, etc */
}

Margin between items in recycler view Android

  1. Find the attribute card_view:cardUseCompatPadding="true" in cards_layout.xml and delete it. Start app and you will find there is no margin between each cardview item.

  2. Add margin attributes you like. Ex:

    android:layout_marginTop="5dp"
    android:layout_marginBottom="5dp"

How to enumerate an object's properties in Python?

If you're looking for reflection of all properties, the answers above are great.

If you're simply looking to get the keys of a dictionary (which is different from an 'object' in Python), use

my_dict.keys()

my_dict = {'abc': {}, 'def': 12, 'ghi': 'string' }
my_dict.keys()
> ['abc', 'def', 'ghi']

How to cancel a pull request on github?

In the spirit of a DVCS (as in "Distributed"), you don't cancel something you have published:
Pull requests are essentially patches you have send (normally by email, here by GitHub webapp), and you wouldn't cancel an email either ;)

But since the GitHub Pull Request system also includes a discussion section, that would be there that you could voice your concern to the recipient of those changes, asking him/her to disregards 29 of your 30 commits.

Finally, remember:

  • a/ you have a preview section when making a pull request, allowing you to see the number of commits about to be included in it, and to review their diff.
  • b/ it is preferable to rebase the work you want to publish as pull request on top of the remote branch which will receive said work. Then you can make a pull request which could be safely applied in a fast forward manner by the recipient.

That being said, since January 2011 ("Refreshed Pull Request Discussions"), and mentioned in the answer above, you can close a pull request in the comments.
Look for that "Comment and Close" button at the bottom of the discussion page:

https://github-images.s3.amazonaws.com/blog/2011/pull-refresh.png

Non-Static method cannot be referenced from a static context with methods and variables

You can either

1) Declare printMenu(), getUserchoice() and input as static

OR

2) If you want to design it better, move the logic from your main into a separate instance method. And then from the main create a new instance of your class and call your instance method(s)

postgresql: INSERT INTO ... (SELECT * ...)

Here's an alternate solution, without using dblink.

Suppose B represents the source database and A represents the target database: Then,

  1. Copy table from source DB to target DB:

    pg_dump -t <source_table> <source_db> | psql <target_db>

  2. Open psql prompt, connect to target_db, and use a simple insert:

    psql
    # \c <target_db>;
    # INSERT INTO <target_table>(id, x, y) SELECT id, x, y FROM <source_table>;

  3. At the end, delete the copy of source_table that you created in target_table.

    # DROP TABLE <source_table>;

"Debug only" code that should run only when "turned on"

An instance variable would probably be the way to do what you want. You could make it static to persist the same value for the life of the program (or thread depending on your static memory model), or make it an ordinary instance var to control it over the life of an object instance. If that instance is a singleton, they'll behave the same way.

#if DEBUG
private /*static*/ bool s_bDoDebugOnlyCode = false;
#endif

void foo()
{
  // ...
#if DEBUG
  if (s_bDoDebugOnlyCode)
  {
      // Code here gets executed only when compiled with the DEBUG constant,
      // and when the person debugging manually sets the bool above to true.
      // It then stays for the rest of the session until they set it to false.
  }
#endif
 // ...
}

Just to be complete, pragmas (preprocessor directives) are considered a bit of a kludge to use to control program flow. .NET has a built-in answer for half of this problem, using the "Conditional" attribute.

private /*static*/ bool doDebugOnlyCode = false;
[Conditional("DEBUG")]
void foo()
{
  // ...
  if (doDebugOnlyCode)
  {
      // Code here gets executed only when compiled with the DEBUG constant,
      // and when the person debugging manually sets the bool above to true.
      // It then stays for the rest of the session until they set it to false.
  }
  // ...
}

No pragmas, much cleaner. The downside is that Conditional can only be applied to methods, so you'll have to deal with a boolean variable that doesn't do anything in a release build. As the variable exists solely to be toggled from the VS execution host, and in a release build its value doesn't matter, it's pretty harmless.

Commenting in a Bash script inside a multiline command

In addition to the examples by DigitalRoss, here's another form that you can use if you prefer $() instead of backticks `

echo abc $(: comment) \
     def $(: comment) \
     xyz

Of course, you can use the colon syntax with backticks as well:

echo abc `: comment` \
     def `: comment` \
     xyz

Additional Notes

The reason $(#comment) doesn't work is because once it sees the #, it treats the rest of the line as comments, including the closing parentheses: comment). So the parentheses is never closed.

I understand that this is fairly old question and has some pretty good answers. But, here is my two cents for the sake of completeness.

As per the official documentation, there are four ways, you can allow complete access for robots to access your site.

Clean:

Specify a global matcher with a disallow segment as mentioned by @unor. So your /robots.txt looks like this.

User-agent: *
Disallow:

The hack:

Create a /robots.txt file with no content in it. Which will default to allow all for all type of Bots.

I don't care way:

Do not create a /robots.txt altogether. Which should yield the exact same results as the above two.

The ugly:

From the robots documentation for meta tags, You can use the following meta tag on all your pages on your site to let the Bots know that these pages are not supposed to be indexed.

<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX">

In order for this to be applied to your entire site, You will have to add this meta tag for all of your pages. And this tag should strictly be placed under your HEAD tag of the page. More about this meta tag here.

How to Set Focus on Input Field using JQuery

Justin's answer did not work for me (Chromium 18, Firefox 43.0.1). jQuery's .focus() creates visual highlight, but text cursor does not appear in the field (jquery 3.1.0).

Inspired by https://www.sitepoint.com/jqueryhtml5-input-focus-cursor-positions/ , I added autofocus attribute to the input field and voila!

function addfield() {

This problem was bugg me for hours. I was using Nextjs and trying to convert canvas to an image file.

I just use the other guy's solution but the created file was empty.

So if this is your problem you should mention the size property in the file object.

  type: "image/jpeg",
  lastModified: new Date(),
  size: 2,
});

just add it, the value it's not important.

How can I trigger another job from a jenkins pipeline (jenkinsfile) with GitHub Org Plugin?

Use build job plugin for that task in order to trigger other jobs from jenkins file. You can add variety of logic to your execution such as parallel ,node and agents options and steps for triggering external jobs. I gave some easy-to-read cookbook example for that.

1.example for triggering external job from jenkins file with conditional example:

  build job:'exactJobName' , parameters:[
    string(name: 'keyNameOfParam1',value: 'valueOfParam1')

Convert string into integer in bash script - "Leading Zero" number error

In Short: In order to deal with "Leading Zero" numbers (any 0 digit that comes before the first non-zero) in bash - Use bc An arbitrary precision calculator language

Example:

echo $b

Output: 1

From Bash manual:

"bc is a language that supports arbitrary precision numbers with interactive execution of statements. There are some similarities in the syntax to the C programming lan- guage. A standard math library is available by command line option. If requested, the math library is defined before processing any files. bc starts by processing code from all the files listed on the command line in the order listed. After all files have been processed, bc reads from the standard input. All code is executed as it is read. (If a file contains a command to halt the processor, bc will never read from the standard input.)"

How can I copy a file on Unix using C?

There is no baked-in equivalent CopyFile function in the APIs. But sendfile can be used to copy a file in kernel mode which is a faster and better solution (for numerous reasons) than opening a file, looping over it to read into a buffer, and writing the output to another file.

Update:

As of Linux kernel version 2.6.33, the limitation requiring the output of sendfile to be a socket was lifted and the original code would work on both Linux and — however, as of OS X 10.9 Mavericks, sendfile on OS X now requires the output to be a socket and the code won't work!

The following code snippet should work on the most OS X (as of 10.5), (Free)BSD, and Linux (as of 2.6.33). The implementation is "zero-copy" for all platforms, meaning all of it is done in kernelspace and there is no copying of buffers or data in and out of userspace. Pretty much the best performance you can get.

#include <fcntl.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#if defined(__APPLE__) || defined(__FreeBSD__)
#include <copyfile.h>
#else
#include <sys/sendfile.h>
#endif

int OSCopyFile(const char* source, const char* destination)
{
    int input, output;
    if ((input = open(source, O_RDONLY)) == -1)
    {
        return -1;
    }
    if ((output = creat(destination, 0660)) == -1)
    {
        close(input);
        return -1;
    }

    //Here we use kernel-space copying for performance reasons
#if defined(__APPLE__) || defined(__FreeBSD__)
    //fcopyfile works on FreeBSD and OS X 10.5+
    int result = fcopyfile(input, output, 0, COPYFILE_ALL);
#else
    //sendfile will work with non-socket output (i.e. regular file) on Linux 2.6.33+
    off_t bytesCopied = 0;
    struct stat fileinfo = {0};
    fstat(input, &fileinfo);
    int result = sendfile(output, input, &bytesCopied, fileinfo.st_size);
#endif

    close(input);
    close(output);

    return result;
}

EDIT: Replaced the opening of the destination with the call to creat() as we want the flag O_TRUNC to be specified. See comment below.

axios.get(`https://cors-anywhere.herokuapp.com/https://www.api.com/`)

Is it possible to ignore one single specific line with Pylint?

Pylint message control is documented in the Pylint manual:

Is it possible to locally disable a particular message?

Yes, this feature has been added in Pylint 0.11. This may be done by adding # pylint: disable=some-message,another-one at the desired block level or at the end of the desired line of code.

You can use the message code or the symbolic names.

For example,

def test():
    # Disable all the no-member violations in this function
    # pylint: disable=no-member
    ...
global VAR # pylint: disable=global-statement

The manual also has further examples.

There is a wiki that documents all Pylint messages and their codes.

Sort JavaScript object by key

Guys I'm figuratively shocked! Sure all answers are somewhat old, but no one did even mention the stability in sorting! So bear with me I'll try my best to answer the question itself and go into details here. So I'm going to apologize now it will be a lot to read.

Since it is 2018 I will only use ES6, the Polyfills are all available at the MDN docs, which I will link at the given part.

Answer to the question:

If your keys are only numbers then you can safely use Object.keys() together with Array.prototype.reduce() to return the sorted object:

// Only numbers to show it will be sorted.
const testObj = {
  '2000': 'Articel1',
  '4000': 'Articel2',
  '1000': 'Articel3',
  '3000': 'Articel4',
};

// I'll explain what reduces does after the answer.
console.log(Object.keys(testObj).reduce((accumulator, currentValue) => {
  accumulator[currentValue] = testObj[currentValue];
  return accumulator;
}, {}));

/**
 * expected output:
 * {
 * '1000': 'Articel3',
 * '2000': 'Articel1',
 * '3000': 'Articel4',
 * '4000': 'Articel2'
 *  }
 */

// if needed here is the one liner:
console.log(Object.keys(testObj).reduce((a, c) => (a[c] = testObj[c], a), {}));

However if you are working with strings I highly recommend chaining Array.prototype.sort() into all of this:

// String example
const testObj = {
  'a1d78eg8fdg387fg38': 'Articel1',
  'z12989dh89h31d9h39': 'Articel2',
  'f1203391dhj32189h2': 'Articel3',
  'b10939hd83f9032003': 'Articel4',
};
// Chained sort into all of this.
console.log(Object.keys(testObj).sort().reduce((accumulator, currentValue) => {
  accumulator[currentValue] = testObj[currentValue];
  return accumulator;
}, {}));

/**
 * expected output:
 * {
 * a1d78eg8fdg387fg38: 'Articel1',
 * b10939hd83f9032003: 'Articel4',
 * f1203391dhj32189h2: 'Articel3',
 * z12989dh89h31d9h39: 'Articel2'
 * }
 */

// again the one liner:
console.log(Object.keys(testObj).sort().reduce((a, c) => (a[c] = testObj[c], a), {}));

If someone is wondering what reduce does:

// Will return Keys of object as an array (sorted if only numbers or single strings like a,b,c).
Object.keys(testObj)

// Chaining reduce to the returned array from Object.keys().
// Array.prototype.reduce() takes one callback
// (and another param look at the last line) and passes 4 arguments to it:
// accumulator, currentValue, currentIndex and array
.reduce((accumulator, currentValue) => {

  // setting the accumulator (sorted new object) with the actual property from old (unsorted) object.
  accumulator[currentValue] = testObj[currentValue];

  // returning the newly sorted object for the next element in array.
  return accumulator;

  // the empty object {} ist the initial value for Array.prototype.reduce().
}, {});

If needed here is the explanation for the one liner:

Object.keys(testObj).reduce(

  // Arrow function as callback parameter.
  (a, c) =>

  // parenthesis return! so we can safe the return and write only (..., a);
  (a[c] = testObj[c], a)

  // initial value for reduce.
  ,{}
);

Why Sorting is a bit complicated:

In short Object.keys() will return an array with the same order as we get with a normal loop:

const object1 = {
  a: 'somestring',
  b: 42,
  c: false
};

console.log(Object.keys(object1));
// expected output: Array ["a", "b", "c"]

Object.keys() returns an array whose elements are strings corresponding to the enumerable properties found directly upon object. The ordering of the properties is the same as that given by looping over the properties of the object manually.

Sidenote - you can use Object.keys() on arrays as well, keep in mind the index will be returned:

// simple array
const arr = ['a', 'b', 'c'];
console.log(Object.keys(arr)); // console: ['0', '1', '2']

But it is not as easy as shown by those examples, real world objects may contain numbers and alphabetical characters or even symbols (please don't do it).

Here is an example with all of them in one object:

// This is just to show what happens, please don't use symbols in keys.
const testObj = {
  '1asc': '4444',
  1000: 'a',
  b: '1231',
  '#01010101010': 'asd',
  2: 'c'
};

console.log(Object.keys(testObj));
// output: [ '2', '1000', '1asc', 'b', '#01010101010' ]

Now if we use Array.prototype.sort() on the array above the output changes:

console.log(Object.keys(testObj).sort());
// output: [ '#01010101010', '1000', '1asc', '2', 'b' ]

Here is a quote from the docs:

The sort() method sorts the elements of an array in place and returns the array. The sort is not necessarily stable. The default sort order is according to string Unicode code points.

The time and space complexity of the sort cannot be guaranteed as it is implementation dependent.

You have to make sure that one of them returns the desired output for you. In reallife examples people tend to mix up things expecially if you use different information inputs like APIs and Databases together.

So what's the big deal?

Well there are two articles which every programmer should understand:

In-place algorithm:

In computer science, an in-place algorithm is an algorithm which transforms input using no auxiliary data structure. However a small amount of extra storage space is allowed for auxiliary variables. The input is usually overwritten by the output as the algorithm executes. In-place algorithm updates input sequence only through replacement or swapping of elements. An algorithm which is not in-place is sometimes called not-in-place or out-of-place.

So basically our old array will be overwritten! This is important if you want to keep the old array for other reasons. So keep this in mind.

Sorting algorithm

Stable sort algorithms sort identical elements in the same order that they appear in the input. When sorting some kinds of data, only part of the data is examined when determining the sort order. For example, in the card sorting example to the right, the cards are being sorted by their rank, and their suit is being ignored. This allows the possibility of multiple different correctly sorted versions of the original list. Stable sorting algorithms choose one of these, according to the following rule: if two items compare as equal, like the two 5 cards, then their relative order will be preserved, so that if one came before the other in the input, it will also come before the other in the output.

enter image description here

An example of stable sort on playing cards. When the cards are sorted by rank with a stable sort, the two 5s must remain in the same order in the sorted output that they were originally in. When they are sorted with a non-stable sort, the 5s may end up in the opposite order in the sorted output.

This shows that the sorting is right but it changed. So in the real world even if the sorting is correct we have to make sure that we get what we expect! This is super important keep this in mind as well. For more JavaScript examples look into the Array.prototype.sort() - docs: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array/sort

How can I switch my signed in user in Visual Studio 2013?

There is a comment about this under this answer, but I think it's important to list it here. If you want to preserve your settings, export them first because they will be lost.

From MSDN forums - since I had to hunt around far too much to find the solution to this:

  1. Close Visual Studio
  2. Start the Developer Command prompt installed with Visual Studio as an administrator.
  3. type 'devenv /resetuserdata' ('wdexpress /resetuserdata' for Express SKUs)
  4. Start Visual Studio Normally.

Worked for me.

Jquery Validate custom error message location

Add this code in your validate method:

 errorLabelContainer: '#errors'

and in your html, put simply this where you want to catch the error:

<div id="errors"></div>

All the errors will be held in the div, independently of your input box.

It worked very fine for me.

UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xe9' in position 7: ordinal not in range(128)

You need to encode Unicode explicitly before writing to a file, otherwise Python does it for you with the default ASCII codec.

Pick an encoding and stick with it:

f.write(printinfo.encode('utf8') + '\n')

or use io.open() to create a file object that'll encode for you as you write to the file:

import io

f = io.open(filename, 'w', encoding='utf8')

You may want to read:

rsync: difference between --size-only and --ignore-times

On a Scientific Linux 6.7 system, the man page on rsync says:

--ignore-times don't skip files that match size and time

I have two files with identical contents, but with different creation dates:

[root@windstorm ~]# ls -ls /tmp/master/usercron /tmp/new/usercron
4 -rwxrwx--- 1 root root 1595 Feb 15 03:45 /tmp/master/usercron
4 -rwxrwx--- 1 root root 1595 Feb 16 04:52 /tmp/new/usercron

[root@windstorm ~]# diff /tmp/master/usercron /tmp/new/usercron
[root@windstorm ~]# md5sum /tmp/master/usercron /tmp/new/usercron
368165347b09204ce25e2fa0f61f3bbd  /tmp/master/usercron
368165347b09204ce25e2fa0f61f3bbd  /tmp/new/usercron

With --size-only, the two files are regarded the same:

[root@windstorm ~]# rsync -v --size-only -n  /tmp/new/usercron /tmp/master/usercron

sent 29 bytes  received 12 bytes  82.00 bytes/sec
total size is 1595 speedup is 38.90 (DRY RUN)

With --ignore-times, the two files are regarded different:

[root@windstorm ~]# rsync -v --ignore-times -n  /tmp/new/usercron /tmp/master/usercron
usercron

sent 32 bytes  received 15 bytes  94.00 bytes/sec
total size is 1595 speedup is 33.94 (DRY RUN)

So it does not looks like --ignore-times has any effect at all.

How to embed a Google Drive folder in a website

Google Drive folders can be embedded and displayed in list and grid views:

List view

<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/embeddedfolderview?id=FOLDER-ID#list" style="width:100%; height:600px; border:0;"></iframe>

Grid view

<iframe src="https://drive.google.com/embeddedfolderview?id=FOLDER-ID#grid" style="width:100%; height:600px; border:0;"></iframe>

Q: What is a folder ID (FOLDER-ID) and how can I get it?

A: Go to Google Drive >> open the folder >> look at its URL in the address bar of your browser. For example:

Folder URL: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1iqp0kGPjWsNDg5NWFlZjEtN2IwZC00NmZiLWE3MjktYTE2ZjZjNTZiMDY2

Folder ID:
0B1iqp0kGPjWsNDg5NWFlZjEtN2IwZC00NmZiLWE3MjktYTE2ZjZjNTZiMDY2

Caveat with folders requiring permission

This technique works best for folders with public access. Folders that are shared only with certain Google accounts will cause trouble when you embed them this way. At the time of this edit, a message "You need permission" appears, with some buttons to help you "Request access" or "Switch accounts" (or possibly sign-in to a Google account). The Javascript in these buttons doesn't work properly inside an IFRAME in Chrome.

how to break the _.each function in underscore.js

You can have a look to _.some instead of _.each. _.some stops traversing the list once a predicate is true. Result(s) can be stored in an external variable.

_.some([1, 2, 3], function(v) {
    if (v == 2) return true;
})

See http://underscorejs.org/#some

Difference between ${} and $() in Bash

  1. $() means: "first evaluate this, and then evaluate the rest of the line".

    Ex :

    echo $(pwd)/myFile.txt

    will be interpreted as

    echo /my/path/myFile.txt

    On the other hand ${} expands a variable.

    Ex:

    MY_VAR=toto
    echo ${MY_VAR}/myFile.txt

    will be interpreted as

    echo toto/myFile.txt

  2. Why can't I use it as bash$ while ((i=0;i<10;i++)); do echo $i; done

    I'm afraid the answer is just that the bash syntax for while just isn't the same as the syntax for for.

What is the difference between print and puts?

If you would like to output array within string using puts, you will get the same result as if you were using print:

puts "#{[0, 1, nil]}":
[0, 1, nil]

But if not withing a quoted string then yes. The only difference is between new line when we use puts.

How to fire an event on class change using jQuery?

you can use something like this:

$(this).addClass('someClass');

$(Selector).trigger('ClassChanged')

$(otherSelector).bind('ClassChanged', data, function(){//stuff });

but otherwise, no, there's no predefined function to fire an event when a class changes.

Checking whether the pip is installed?

Use command line and not python.
TLDR; On Windows, do:
python -m pip --version
OR
py -m pip --version

Details:

On Windows, ~> (open windows terminal)
Start (or Windows Key) > type "cmd" Press Enter
You should see a screen that looks like this enter image description here
To check to see if pip is installed.

python -m pip --version

if pip is installed, go ahead and use it. for example:

Z:\>python -m pip install selenium

if not installed, install pip, and you may need to
add its path to the environment variables.
(basic - windows)
add path to environment variables (basic+advanced)

if python is NOT installed you will get a result similar to the one below

enter image description here

Install python. add its path to environment variables.

UPDATE: for newer versions of python replace "python" with py - see @gimmegimme's comment and link https://packaging.python.org/guides/installing-using-pip-and-virtual-environments/

The PowerShell -and conditional operator

You can simplify it to

if ($user_sam -and $user_case) {
  ...
}

because empty strings coerce to $false (and so does $null, for that matter).

How do I get the height and width of the Android Navigation Bar programmatically?

Simple One-line Solution

As suggested in many of above answers, for example

Simply getting navigation bar height may not be enough. We need to consider whether 1. navigation bar exists, 2. is it on the bottom, or right or left, 3. is app open in multi-window mode.

Fortunately you can easily bypass all the long coding by simply setting android:fitsSystemWindows="true" in your root layout. Android system will automatically take care of adding necessary padding to the root layout to make sure that the child views don't get into the navigation bar or statusbar regions.

There is a simple one line solution

android:fitsSystemWindows="true"

or programatically

findViewById(R.id.your_root_view).setFitsSystemWindows(true);

you may also get root view by

findViewById(android.R.id.content).getRootView();
or
getWindow().getDecorView().findViewById(android.R.id.content)

Viewing localhost website from mobile device

Another option is http://localtunnel.me/ if you're running NodeJS

npm install -g localtunnel

Start a webserver on any local port such as 8080, and create a tunnel to that port:

lt -p 8080

which will return a public URL for your localhost at randomname.localtunnel.me. You can request your own subdomain if it's available:

lt -p 8080 -s myname

which will return myname.localtunnel.me

Check if an object belongs to a class in Java

The instanceof keyword, as described by the other answers, is usually what you would want. Keep in mind that instanceof will return true for superclasses as well.

If you want to see if an object is a direct instance of a class, you could compare the class. You can get the class object of an instance via getClass(). And you can statically access a specific class via ClassName.class.

So for example:

if (a.getClass() == X.class) {
  // do something
}

In the above example, the condition is true if a is an instance of X, but not if a is an instance of a subclass of X.

In comparison:

if (a instanceof X) {
    // do something
  }

In the instanceof example, the condition is true if a is an instance of X, or if a is an instance of a subclass of X.

Most of the time, instanceof is right.

What value could I insert into a bit type column?

Generally speaking, for boolean or bit data types, you would use 0 or 1 like so:

how to change a selections options based on another select option selected?

as a complementary answer to @Navid_pdp11, which will enable to select the first visible item and work on document load as well. put the following below your body tag

Python constructors and __init__

coonstructors are called automatically when you create a new object, thereby "constructing" the object. The reason you can have more than one init is because names are just references in python, and you are allowed to change what each variable references whenever you want (hence dynamic typing)

    pass

func=5 #now func refers to the number 5
def func():

in your class definition, it just keeps the later one

How do I use modulus for float/double?

I thought the regular modulus operator would work for this in java, but it can't be hard to code. Just divide the numerator by the denominator, and take the integer portion of the result. Multiply that by the denominator, and subtract the result from the numerator.

x = n / d
xint = Integer portion of x
result = n - d * xint

Increasing the JVM maximum heap size for memory intensive applications

32-bit Java is limited to approximately 1.4 to 1.6 GB.

Oracle 32 bit heap FAQ

Quote

The maximum theoretical heap limit for the 32-bit JVM is 4G. Due to various additional constraints such as available swap, kernel address space usage, memory fragmentation, and VM overhead, in practice the limit can be much lower. On most modern 32-bit Windows systems the maximum heap size will range from 1.4G to 1.6G. On 32-bit Solaris kernels the address space is limited to 2G. On 64-bit operating systems running the 32-bit VM, the max heap size can be higher, approaching 4G on many Solaris systems.

Query query=em.createQuery(hql);
query.setParameter("today",new LocalDate());

Optional<DrawUnusedBalance> drawUnusedBalance=query.uniqueResultOptional();

How to detect a remote side socket close?

The isConnected method won't help, it will return true even if the remote side has closed the socket. Try this:

public class MyServer {
    public static final int PORT = 12345;
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException, InterruptedException {
        ServerSocket ss = ServerSocketFactory.getDefault().createServerSocket(PORT);
        Socket s = ss.accept();
        Thread.sleep(5000);
        ss.close();
        s.close();
    }
}

public class MyClient {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException, InterruptedException {
        Socket s = SocketFactory.getDefault().createSocket("localhost", MyServer.PORT);
        System.out.println(" connected: " + s.isConnected());
        Thread.sleep(10000);
        System.out.println(" connected: " + s.isConnected());
    }
}

Start the server, start the client. You'll see that it prints "connected: true" twice, even though the socket is closed the second time.

The only way to really find out is by reading (you'll get -1 as return value) or writing (an IOException (broken pipe) will be thrown) on the associated Input/OutputStreams.

It basically is higher/greater in everything else. A keyboard is less of a priority than the real time process. This means the process will be taken into account faster then keyboard and if it can't handle that, then your keyboard is slowed.

Get values from an object in JavaScript

If you $ is defined then You can iterate

var data={"id" : 1, "second" : "abcd"};
$.each(data, function() {
  var key = Object.keys(this)[0];
  var value = this[key];
  //do something with value;
});

You can access it by following way If you know the values of keys

data.id

or

data["id"]

case statement in where clause - SQL Server

You don't need case in the where statement, just use parentheses and or:

Select * From Times
WHERE StartDate <= @Date AND EndDate >= @Date
AND (
    (@day = 'Monday' AND Monday = 1)
    OR (@day = 'Tuesday' AND Tuesday = 1)
    OR Wednesday = 1
)

Additionally, your syntax is wrong for a case. It doesn't append things to the string--it returns a single value. You'd want something like this, if you were actually going to use a case statement (which you shouldn't):

Select * From Times
WHERE (StartDate <= @Date) AND (EndDate >= @Date)
AND 1 = CASE WHEN @day = 'Monday' THEN Monday
             WHEN @day = 'Tuesday' THEN Tuesday
             ELSE Wednesday
        END

And just for an extra umph, you can use the between operator for your date:

where @Date between StartDate and EndDate

Making your final query:

select
    *
from
    Times
where
    @Date between StartDate and EndDate
    and (
        (@day = 'Monday' and Monday = 1)
        or (@day = 'Tuesday' and Tuesday = 1)
        or Wednesday = 1
    )

What is the `data-target` attribute in Bootstrap 3?

data-target is used by bootstrap to make your life easier. You (mostly) do not need to write a single line of Javascript to use their pre-made JavaScript components.

The data-target attribute should contain a CSS selector that points to the HTML Element that will be changed.

Modal Example Code from BS3:

<!-- Button trigger modal -->
<button class="btn btn-primary btn-lg" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#myModal">
  Launch demo modal
</button>

<!-- Modal -->
<div class="modal fade" id="myModal" tabindex="-1" role="dialog" aria-labelledby="myModalLabel" aria-hidden="true">
  [...]
</div>

In this example, the button has data-target="#myModal", if you click on it, <div id="myModal">...</div> will be modified (in this case faded in). This happens because #myModal in CSS selectors points to elements that have an id attribute with the myModal value.

In R, dealing with Error: ggplot2 doesn't know how to deal with data of class numeric

The error happens because of you are trying to map a numeric vector to data in geom_errorbar: GVW[1:64,3]. ggplot only works with data.frame.

In general, you shouldn't subset inside ggplot calls. You are doing so because your standard errors are stored in four separate objects. Add them to your original data.frame and you will be able to plot everything in one call.

Here with a dplyr solution to summarise the data and compute the standard error beforehand.

library(dplyr)
d <- GVW %>% group_by(Genotype,variable) %>%
    summarise(mean = mean(value),se = sd(value) / sqrt(n()))

ggplot(d, aes(x = variable, y = mean, fill = Genotype)) +
  geom_bar(position = position_dodge(), stat = "identity",
      colour="black", size=.3) +
  geom_errorbar(aes(ymin = mean - se, ymax = mean + se),
      size=.3, width=.2, position=position_dodge(.9)) +
  xlab("Time") +
  ylab("Weight [g]") +
  scale_fill_hue(name = "Genotype", breaks = c("KO", "WT"),
      labels = c("Knock-out", "Wild type")) +
  ggtitle("Effect of genotype on weight-gain") +
  scale_y_continuous(breaks = 0:20*4) +

How can I declare a global variable in Angular 2 / Typescript?

Here is the simplest solution w/o Service nor Observer:

Put the global variables in a file an export them.

//
// ===== File globals.ts
//
'use strict';

export const sep='/';
export const version: string="22.2.2";

To use globals in another file use an import statement: import * as myGlobals from 'globals';

Example:

//
// ===== File heroes.component.ts
//
import {Component, OnInit} from 'angular2/core';
import {Router} from 'angular2/router';
import {HeroService} from './hero.service';
import {HeroDetailComponent} from './hero-detail.component';
import {Hero} from './hero';
import * as myGlobals from 'globals'; //<==== this one (**Updated**)

export class HeroesComponent implements OnInit {
    public heroes: Hero[];
    public selectedHero: Hero;
    //
    //
    // Here we access the global var reference.
    //
    public helloString: string="hello " + myGlobals.sep + " there";

         ...

        }
    }

What causes the error "undefined reference to (some function)"?

It's a linker error. ld is the linker, so if you get an error message ending with "ld returned 1 exit status", that tells you that it's a linker error.

The error message tells you that none of the object files you're linking against contains a definition for avergecolumns. The reason for that is that the function you've defined is called averagecolumns (in other words: you misspelled the function name when calling the function (and presumably in the header file as well - otherwise you'd have gotten a different error at compile time)).

How can we draw a vertical line in the webpage?

There are no vertical lines in html that you can use but you can fake one by absolutely positioning a div outside of your container with a top:0; and bottom:0; style.

Try this:

CSS

.vr {
    width:10px;
    background-color:#000;
    position:absolute;
    top:0;
    bottom:0;
    left:150px;
}

HTML

<div class="vr">&nbsp;</div>

I had a similar thing happen to me. I didn't want to stage the files just yet so I added them with git add and then just did git reset. This basically just added and then unstaged my changes but cleared the unmerged paths.

Remove pandas rows with duplicate indices

I would suggest using the duplicated method on the Pandas Index itself:

df3 = df3[~df3.index.duplicated(keep='first')]

While all the other methods work, the currently accepted answer is by far the least performant for the provided example. Furthermore, while the groupby method is only slightly less performant, I find the duplicated method to be more readable.

Using the sample data provided:

>>> %timeit df3.reset_index().drop_duplicates(subset='index', keep='first').set_index('index')
1000 loops, best of 3: 1.54 ms per loop

>>> %timeit df3.groupby(df3.index).first()
1000 loops, best of 3: 580 µs per loop

>>> %timeit df3[~df3.index.duplicated(keep='first')]
1000 loops, best of 3: 307 µs per loop

Note that you can keep the last element by changing the keep argument to 'last'.

It should also be noted that this method works with MultiIndex as well (using df1 as specified in Paul's example):

>>> %timeit df1.groupby(level=df1.index.names).last()
1000 loops, best of 3: 771 µs per loop

>>> %timeit df1[~df1.index.duplicated(keep='last')]
1000 loops, best of 3: 365 µs per loop

phpMyAdmin ERROR: mysqli_real_connect(): (HY000/1045): Access denied for user 'pma'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

In terminal, log into MySQL as root. You may have created a root password when you installed MySQL for the first time or the password could be blank, in which case you can just press ENTER when prompted for a password.

 sudo mysql -p -u root

Now add a new MySQL user with the username of your choice. In this example we are calling it pmauser (for phpmyadmin user). Make sure to replace password_here with your own. You can generate a password here. The % symbol here tells MySQL to allow this user to log in from anywhere remotely. If you wanted heightened security, you could replace this with an IP address.

CREATE USER 'pmauser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password_here';

Now we will grant superuser privilege to our new user.

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'pmauser'@'%' WITH GRANT OPTION;

Then go to config.inc.php ( in ubuntu, /etc/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php )

/* User for advanced features */

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser'] = 'pmauser';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controlpass'] = 'password_here';

Looking for a 'cmake clean' command to clear up CMake output

A solution that I found recently is to combine the out-of-source build concept with a Makefile wrapper.

In my top-level CMakeLists.txt file, I include the following to prevent in-source builds:

if ( ${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR} STREQUAL ${CMAKE_BINARY_DIR} )
    message( FATAL_ERROR "In-source builds not allowed. Please make a new directory (called a build directory) and run CMake from there. You may need to remove CMakeCache.txt." )
endif()

Then, I create a top-level Makefile, and include the following:

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
# CMake project wrapper Makefile ----------------------------------------------
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

SHELL := /bin/bash
RM    := rm -rf
MKDIR := mkdir -p

all: ./build/Makefile
    @ $(MAKE) -C build

./build/Makefile:
    @  ($(MKDIR) build > /dev/null)
    @  (cd build > /dev/null 2>&1 && cmake ..)

distclean:
    @  ($(MKDIR) build > /dev/null)
    @  (cd build > /dev/null 2>&1 && cmake .. > /dev/null 2>&1)
    @- $(MAKE) --silent -C build clean || true
    @- $(RM) ./build/Makefile
    @- $(RM) ./build/src
    @- $(RM) ./build/test
    @- $(RM) ./build/CMake*
    @- $(RM) ./build/cmake.*
    @- $(RM) ./build/*.cmake
    @- $(RM) ./build/*.txt

ifeq ($(findstring distclean,$(MAKECMDGOALS)),)
    $(MAKECMDGOALS): ./build/Makefile
    @ $(MAKE) -C build $(MAKECMDGOALS)
endif

The default target all is called by typing make, and invokes the target ./build/Makefile.

The first thing the target ./build/Makefile does is to create the build directory using $(MKDIR), which is a variable for mkdir -p. The directory build is where we will perform our out-of-source build. We provide the argument -p to ensure that mkdir does not scream at us for trying to create a directory that may already exist.

The second thing the target ./build/Makefile does is to change directories to the build directory and invoke cmake.

Back to the all target, we invoke $(MAKE) -C build, where $(MAKE) is a Makefile variable automatically generated for make. make -C changes the directory before doing anything. Therefore, using $(MAKE) -C build is equivalent to doing cd build; make.

To summarize, calling this Makefile wrapper with make all or make is equivalent to doing:

mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make

The target distclean invokes cmake .., then make -C build clean, and finally, removes all contents from the build directory. I believe this is exactly what you requested in your question.

The last piece of the Makefile evaluates if the user-provided target is or is not distclean. If not, it will change directories to build before invoking it. This is very powerful because the user can type, for example, make clean, and the Makefile will transform that into an equivalent of cd build; make clean.

In conclusion, this Makefile wrapper, in combination with a mandatory out-of-source build CMake configuration, make it so that the user never has to interact with the command cmake. This solution also provides an elegant method to remove all CMake output files from the build directory.

P.S. In the Makefile, we use the prefix @ to suppress the output from a shell command, and the prefix @- to ignore errors from a shell command. When using rm as part of the distclean target, the command will return an error if the files do not exist (they may have been deleted already using the command line with rm -rf build, or they were never generated in the first place). This return error will force our Makefile to exit. We use the prefix @- to prevent that. It is acceptable if a file was removed already; we want our Makefile to keep going and remove the rest.

Another thing to note: This Makefile may not work if you use a variable number of CMake variables to build your project, for example, cmake .. -DSOMEBUILDSUSETHIS:STRING="foo" -DSOMEOTHERBUILDSUSETHISTOO:STRING="bar". This Makefile assumes you invoke CMake in a consistent way, either by typing cmake .. or by providing cmake a consistent number of arguments (that you can include in your Makefile).

Finally, credit where credit is due. This Makefile wrapper was adapted from the Makefile provided by the C++ Application Project Template.

How to Set Selected value in Multi-Value Select in Jquery-Select2.?

So I take it you want 2 options default selected, and then get the value of it? If so:

http://jsfiddle.net/NdQbw/1/

<div class="divright">
    <select id="drp_Books_Ill_Illustrations" class="leaderMultiSelctdropdown Books_Illustrations" name="drp_Books_Ill_Illustrations" multiple="">
        <option value=" ">No illustrations</option>
        <option value="a" selected>Illustrations</option>
        <option value="b">Maps</option>
        <option value="c" selected>selectedPortraits</option>
    </select>
</div>

And to get value:

alert($(".leaderMultiSelctdropdown").val());

To set the value:

 $(".leaderMultiSelctdropdown").val(["a", "c"]);

You can also use an array to set the values:

var selectedValues = new Array();
selectedValues[0] = "a";
selectedValues[1] = "c";

$(".Books_Illustrations").val(selectedValues);

Is it safe to delete a NULL pointer?

Deleting a null pointer has no effect. It's not good coding style necessarily because it's not needed, but it's not bad either.

If you are searching for good coding practices consider using smart pointers instead so then you don't need to delete at all.

session not created: This version of ChromeDriver only supports Chrome version 74 error with ChromeDriver Chrome using Selenium

This error message...

Selenium message:session not created: This version of ChromeDriver only supports Chrome version 74

...implies that the ChromeDriver expects the Chrome Browser version to be 74.

Quick installation of the latest ChromeDriver

To install the latest version of ChromeDriver you can use:

  • Mac users with Homebrew: brew tap homebrew/cask && brew cask install chromedriver
  • Debian based Linux distros: sudo apt-get install chromium-chromedriver
  • Windows users with Chocolatey installed: choco install chromedriver

Analysis

Your main issue is the incompatibility between the version of the binaries you are using as follows:

Supports Chrome v74

  • You are using the currently released chrome=73.0

So there is a clear mismatch between the ChromeDriver v74.0.3729.6 and the Chrome Browser v73.0

Solution

  • Downgrade ChromeDriver to ChromeDriver v73.0.3683.68 level.
  • Keep Chrome version at Chrome v73 level. (as per ChromeDriver v73.0.3683.68 release notes)
  • Clean your Project Workspace through your IDE and Rebuild your project with required dependencies only.
  • If your base Web Client version is too old, then uninstall it and install a recent GA and released version of Web Client.
  • Execute your @Test.
  • Always invoke driver.quit() within tearDown(){} method to close & destroy the WebDriver and Web Client instances gracefully.

Can HTTP POST be limitless?

Quite amazing how all answers talk about IIS, as if that were the only web server that mattered. Even back in 2010 when the question was asked, Apache had between 60% and 70% of the market share. Anyway,

  • The HTTP protocol does not specify a limit.
  • The POST method allows sending far more data than the GET method, which is limited by the URL length - about 2KB.
  • The maximum POST request body size is configured on the HTTP server and typically ranges from
    1MB to 2GB
  • The HTTP client (browser or other user agent) can have its own limitations. Therefore, the maximum POST body request size is min(serverMaximumSize, clientMaximumSize).

Here are the POST body sizes for some of the more popular HTTP servers:

How can I use modulo operator (%) in JavaScript?

It's the remainder operator and is used to get the remainder after integer division. Lots of languages have it. For example:

10 % 3 // = 1 ; because 3 * 3 gets you 9, and 10 - 9 is 1.

Apparently it is not the same as the modulo operator entirely.

How to set session timeout dynamically in Java web applications?

Instead of using a ServletContextListener, use a HttpSessionListener.

In the sessionCreated() method, you can set the session timeout programmatically:

public class MyHttpSessionListener implements HttpSessionListener {

  public void sessionCreated(HttpSessionEvent event){
      event.getSession().setMaxInactiveInterval(15 * 60); // in seconds
  }

  public void sessionDestroyed(HttpSessionEvent event) {}

}

And don't forget to define the listener in the deployment descriptor:

<webapp>
...
  <listener>
    <listener-class>com.example.MyHttpSessionListener</listener-class>
  </listener>
</webapp>

(or since Servlet version 3.0 you can use @WebListener annotation instead).

Still, I would recommend creating different web.xml files for each application and defining the session timeout there:

<webapp>
...
  <session-config>
    <session-timeout>15</session-timeout> <!-- in minutes -->
  </session-config>
</webapp>

Programmatically create a UIView with color gradient

A Swift Approach

This answer builds on the answers above and provides implementation for dealing with the problem of the gradient not being properly applied during rotation. It satisfies this problem by changing the gradient layer to a square so that rotation in all directions results in a correct gradient. The function signature includes a Swift variadic argument that allows one to pass in as many CGColorRef's (CGColor) as needed (see sample usage). Also provided is an example as a Swift extension so that one can apply a gradient to any UIView.

   func configureGradientBackground(colors:CGColorRef...){

        let gradient: CAGradientLayer = CAGradientLayer()
        let maxWidth = max(self.view.bounds.size.height,self.view.bounds.size.width)
        let squareFrame = CGRect(origin: self.view.bounds.origin, size: CGSizeMake(maxWidth, maxWidth))
        gradient.frame = squareFrame

        gradient.colors = colors
        view.layer.insertSublayer(gradient, atIndex: 0)
    }

To use:

in viewDidLoad...

  override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()
        configureGradientBackground(UIColor.redColor().CGColor, UIColor.whiteColor().CGColor)
  }

Extension implementation

extension CALayer {

    func configureGradientBackground(colors:CGColorRef...){

        let gradient = CAGradientLayer()

        let maxWidth = max(self.bounds.size.height,self.bounds.size.width)
        let squareFrame = CGRect(origin: self.bounds.origin, size: CGSizeMake(maxWidth, maxWidth))
        gradient.frame = squareFrame

        gradient.colors = colors

        self.insertSublayer(gradient, atIndex: 0)
    }

}

Extension use-case example:

 override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()

        self.view.layer.configureGradientBackground(UIColor.purpleColor().CGColor, UIColor.blueColor().CGColor, UIColor.whiteColor().CGColor)
 }

Which means the gradient background can now be applied to any UIControl since all controls are UIViews (or a subclass) and all UIViews have CALayers.

Swift 4

Extension implementation

extension CALayer {
    public func configureGradientBackground(_ colors:CGColor...){

        let gradient = CAGradientLayer()

        let maxWidth = max(self.bounds.size.height,self.bounds.size.width)
        let squareFrame = CGRect(origin: self.bounds.origin, size: CGSize(width: maxWidth, height: maxWidth))
        gradient.frame = squareFrame

        gradient.colors = colors

        self.insertSublayer(gradient, at: 0)
    }
}

Extension use-case example:

override func viewDidLoad() {
    super.viewDidLoad()

    self.view.layer.configureGradientBackground(UIColor.purple.cgColor, UIColor.blue.cgColor, UIColor.white.cgColor)
}

How do I find the caller of a method using stacktrace or reflection?

Sounds like you're trying to avoid passing a reference to this into the method. Passing this is way better than finding the caller through the current stack trace. Refactoring to a more OO design is even better. You shouldn't need to know the caller. Pass a callback object if necessary.

Change background color of R plot

One Google search later we've learned that you can set the entire plotting device background color as Owen indicates. If you just want the plotting region altered, you have to do something like what is outlined in that R-Help thread:

plot(df)
rect(par("usr")[1],par("usr")[3],par("usr")[2],par("usr")[4],col = "gray")
points(df)

The barplot function has an add parameter that you'll likely need to use.

How do I update a GitHub forked repository?

Android Studio now has learned to work with GitHub fork repositories (you don't even have to add "upstream" remote repository by console command).

Open menu VCS ? Git

And pay attention to the two last popup menu items:

  • Rebase my GitHub fork

  • Create Pull Request

Try them. I use the first one to synchronize my local repository. Anyway the branches from the parent remote repository ("upstream") will be accessible in Android Studio after you click "Rebase my GitHub fork", and you will be able to operate with them easily.

(I use Android Studio 3.0 with "Git integration" and "GitHub" plugins.)

You can easily do it with loops, there are two types of loops

For Loops:

for i in range(0,5):

While Loops:

count = 1
while count <= 5:
    print 'Hello World'
    count += 1

Each of these loops print "Hello World" five times

Using success/error/finally/catch with Promises in AngularJS

Forget about using success and error method.

Both methods have been deprecated in angular 1.4. Basically, the reason behind the deprecation is that they are not chainable-friendly, so to speak.

With the following example, I'll try to demonstrate what I mean about success and error being not chainable-friendly. Suppose we call an API that returns a user object with an address:

User object:

{name: 'Igor', address: 'San Francisco'}

Call to the API:

$http.get('/user')
    .success(function (user) {
        return user.address;   <---
    }) | // you might expect that 'obj' is equal to the
    .then(function (obj) { ------ // address of the user, but it is NOT

        console.log(obj); // -> {name: 'Igor', address: 'San Francisco'}
    });
};

What happened?

Because success and error return the original promise, i.e. the one returned by $http.get, the object passed to the callback of the then is the whole user object, that is to say the same input to the preceding success callback.

If we had chained two then, this would have been less confusing:

$http.get('/user')
    .then(function (user) {
        return user.address;
    })
    .then(function (obj) {
        console.log(obj); // -> 'San Francisco'
    });
};

Efficient way to Handle ResultSet in Java

i improved the solutions of RHTs/Brad Ms and of Lestos answer.

i extended both solutions in leaving the state there, where it was found. So i save the current ResultSet position and restore it after i created the maps.

The rs is the ResultSet, its a field variable and so in my solutions-snippets not visible.

I replaced the specific Map in Brad Ms solution to the gerneric Map.

    public List<Map<String, Object>> resultAsListMap() throws SQLException
    {
        var md = rs.getMetaData();
        var columns = md.getColumnCount();
        var list = new ArrayList<Map<String, Object>>();

        var currRowIndex = rs.getRow();
        rs.beforeFirst();

        while (rs.next())
        {
            HashMap<String, Object> row = new HashMap<String, Object>(columns);
            for (int i = 1; i <= columns; ++i)
            {
                row.put(md.getColumnName(i), rs.getObject(i));
            }

            list.add(row);
        }

        rs.absolute(currRowIndex);

        return list;
    }

In Lestos solution, i optimized the code. In his code he have to lookup the Maps each iteration of that for-loop. I reduced that to only one array-acces each for-loop iteration. So the program must not seach each iteration step for that string-key.

    public Map<String, List<Object>> resultAsMapList() throws SQLException
    {
        var md = rs.getMetaData();
        var columns = md.getColumnCount();
        var tmp = new ArrayList[columns];
        var map = new HashMap<String, List<Object>>(columns);

        var currRowIndex = rs.getRow();
        rs.beforeFirst();

        for (int i = 1; i <= columns; ++i)
        {
            tmp[i - 1] = new ArrayList<>();
            map.put(md.getColumnName(i), tmp[i - 1]);
        }

        while (rs.next())
        {
            for (int i = 1; i <= columns; ++i)
            {
                tmp[i - 1].add(rs.getObject(i));
            }
        }

        rs.absolute(currRowIndex);

        return map;
    }

  • If your SPA has multiple small components on the page that you wanted to render based on some conditions, $routeProvider fails. (to achieve that, we need to use directives like ng-include, ng-switch, ng-if, ng-show, which looks bad to have them in SPA)
  • You can not relate between two routes like parent and child relationship.
  • You cannot show and hide a part of the view based on url pattern.

2. ui-router - per $stateProvider docs

AngularUI Router is a routing framework for AngularJS, which allows you to organize the parts of your interface into a state machine. UI-Router is organized around states, which may optionally have routes, as well as other behavior, attached.

Multiple & Named Views

Another great feature is the ability to have multiple ui-views in a template.

While multiple parallel views are a powerful feature, you'll often be able to manage your interfaces more effectively by nesting your views, and pairing those views with nested states.

HTML

<div ui-view>
    <div ui-view='header'></div>
    <div ui-view='content'></div>
    <div ui-view='footer'></div>
</div>

The majority of ui-router's power is it can manage nested state & views.

Pros

  • You can have multiple ui-view on single page
  • Various views can be nested in each other and maintained by defining state in routing phase.
  • We can have child & parent relationship here, simply like inheritance in state, also you could define sibling states.
  • You could change the ui-view="some" of state just by using absolute routing using @ with state name.
  • Another way you could do relative routing is by using only @ to change ui-view="some". This will replace the ui-view rather than checking if it is nested or not.
  • Here you could use ui-sref to create a href URL dynamically on the basis of URL mentioned in a state, also you could give a state params in the json format.

For more Information Angular ui-router

For better flexibility with various nested view with states, I'd prefer you to go for ui-router

How to show current user name in a cell?

Example: to view the Windows User Name on Cell C5, you can use this script :

Range("C5").Value = ": " & Environ("USERNAME").

UNIX export command

When you execute a program the child program inherits its environment variables from the parent. For instance if $HOME is set to /root in the parent then the child's $HOME variable is also set to /root.

This only applies to environment variable that are marked for export. If you set a variable at the command-line like

$ FOO="bar"

That variable will not be visible in child processes. Not unless you export it:

$ export FOO

You can combine these two statements into a single one in bash (but not in old-school sh):

$ export FOO="bar"

Here's a quick example showing the difference between exported and non-exported variables. To understand what's happening know that sh -c creates a child shell process which inherits the parent shell's environment.

$ FOO=bar
$ sh -c 'echo $FOO'

$ export FOO
$ sh -c 'echo $FOO'
bar

Note: To get help on shell built-in commands use help export. Shell built-ins are commands that are part of your shell rather than independent executables like /bin/ls.

Why does MSBuild look in C:\ for Microsoft.Cpp.Default.props instead of c:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild? ( error MSB4019)

I have had the same problem recently and after installing different packages in different order it was just getting very messy. Then I have found this repo - https://github.com/felixrieseberg/windows-build-tools

npm install --global windows-build-tools

It installs Python & VS Build tools that are required to compile most node modules. It worked a treat!

Internet Explorer 11 detection

All of the above answers ignore the fact that you mention you have no window or navigator :-)

Then I openede developer console in IE11

and thats where it says

Object not found and needs to be re-evaluated.

and navigator, window, console, none of them exist and need to be re-evaluated. I've had that in emulation. just close and open the console a few times.

How to darken an image on mouseover?

I realise this is a little late but you could add the following to your code. This won't work for transparent pngs though, you'd need a cropping mask for that. Which I'm now going to see about.

outerLink {
    overflow: hidden;
    position: relative;
}

outerLink:hover:after {
    background: #000;
    content: "";
    display: block;
    height: 100%;
    left: 0;
    opacity: 0.5;
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    width: 100%;

How to print the value of a Tensor object in TensorFlow?

The easiest[A] way to evaluate the actual value of a Tensor object is to pass it to the Session.run() method, or call Tensor.eval() when you have a default session (i.e. in a with tf.Session(): block, or see below). In general[B], you cannot print the value of a tensor without running some code in a session.

If you are experimenting with the programming model, and want an easy way to evaluate tensors, the tf.InteractiveSession lets you open a session at the start of your program, and then use that session for all Tensor.eval() (and Operation.run()) calls. This can be easier in an interactive setting, such as the shell or an IPython notebook, when it's tedious to pass around a Session object everywhere. For example, the following works in a Jupyter notebook:

with tf.Session() as sess:  print(product.eval())

This might seem silly for such a small expression, but one of the key ideas in Tensorflow 1.x is deferred execution: it's very cheap to build a large and complex expression, and when you want to evaluate it, the back-end (to which you connect with a Session) is able to schedule its execution more efficiently (e.g. executing independent parts in parallel and using GPUs).

[A]: To print the value of a tensor without returning it to your Python program, you can use the tf.print() operator, as Andrzej suggests in another answer. According to the official documentation:

To make sure the operator runs, users need to pass the produced op to tf.compat.v1.Session's run method, or to use the op as a control dependency for executed ops by specifying with tf.compat.v1.control_dependencies([print_op]), which is printed to standard output.

Also note that:

In Jupyter notebooks and colabs, tf.print prints to the notebook cell outputs. It will not write to the notebook kernel's console logs.

[B]: You might be able to use the tf.get_static_value() function to get the constant value of the given tensor if its value is efficiently calculable.

How do I use PHP to get the current year?

For up to php 5.4+

<?php
    $current= new \DateTime();
    $future = new \DateTime('+ 1 years');

    echo $current->format('Y');
    //For 4 digit ('Y') for 2 digit ('y')
?>

Or you can use it with one line

$year = (new DateTime)->format("Y");

If you wanna increase or decrease the year another method; add modify line like below.

<?PHP
  $now   = new DateTime;
  $now->modify('-1 years'); //or +1 or +5 years
  echo $now->format('Y');
  //and here again For 4 digit ('Y') for 2 digit ('y')
?>

C++ Passing Pointer to Function (Howto) + C++ Pointer Manipulation

void Fun(int *Pointer)
{
  //if you want to manipulate the content of the pointer:
  *Pointer=10;
  //Here we are changing the contents of Pointer to 10
}

* before the pointer means the content of the pointer (except in declarations!)

& before the pointer (or any variable) means the address

EDIT:

int someint=15;
//to call the function
Fun(&someint);
//or we can also do
int *ptr;
ptr=&someint;

Convert numpy array to tuple

Here's a function that'll do it:

def totuple(a):
    try:
        return tuple(totuple(i) for i in a)
    except TypeError:
        return a

And an example:

>>> array = numpy.array(((2,2),(2,-2)))
>>> totuple(array)
((2, 2), (2, -2))

Because I wanted register Factory to create instances of DbContext Derived class IBlogContextFactory and use Create method to instantiate instance of Blog Context so that I can use below pattern along with dependency Injection and can also use mocking for unit testing.

the pattern I wanted to use is

public async Task<List<Blog>> GetBlogsAsync()
        {
            using (var context = new BloggingContext())
            {
                return await context.Blogs.ToListAsync();
            }
        }

But Instead of new BloggingContext() I want to Inject factory via constructor as in below BlogController class

    [Route("blogs/api/v1")]

public class BlogController : ControllerBase
{
    IBloggingContextFactory _bloggingContextFactory;

    public BlogController(IBloggingContextFactory bloggingContextFactory)
    {
        _bloggingContextFactory = bloggingContextFactory;
    }

    [HttpGet("blog/{id}")]
    public async Task<Blog> Get(int id)
    {
        //validation goes here
        Blog blog = null;
        // Instantiage context only if needed and dispose immediately
        using (IBloggingContext context = _bloggingContextFactory.CreateContext())
        {
            blog = await context.Blogs.FindAsync(id);
        }
        //Do further processing without need of context.
        return blog;
    }
}

here is my service registration code

            services
            .AddDbContext<BloggingContext>()
            .AddTransient<IBloggingContext, BloggingContext>()
            .AddTransient<IBloggingContextFactory, BloggingContextFactory>();

and below are my models and factory classes

    public interface IBloggingContext : IDisposable
{
    DbSet<Blog> Blogs { get; set; }
    DbSet<Post> Posts { get; set; }
}

public class BloggingContext : DbContext, IBloggingContext
{
    public DbSet<Blog> Blogs { get; set; }
    public DbSet<Post> Posts { get; set; }

    protected override void OnConfiguring(DbContextOptionsBuilder optionsBuilder)
    {
        optionsBuilder.UseInMemoryDatabase("blogging.db");
        //optionsBuilder.UseSqlite("Data Source=blogging.db");
    }
}

public interface IBloggingContextFactory
{
    IBloggingContext CreateContext();
}

public class BloggingContextFactory : IBloggingContextFactory
{
    private Func<IBloggingContext> _contextCreator;
    public BloggingContextFactory(Func<IBloggingContext> contextCreator)// This is fine with .net and unity, this is treated as factory function, but creating problem in .netcore service provider
    {
        _contextCreator = contextCreator;
    }

    public IBloggingContext CreateContext()
    {
        return _contextCreator();
    }
}

public class Blog
{
    public Blog()
    {
        CreatedAt = DateTime.Now;
    }

    public Blog(int id, string url, string deletedBy) : this()
    {
        BlogId = id;
        Url = url;
        DeletedBy = deletedBy;
        if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(deletedBy))
        {
            DeletedAt = DateTime.Now;
        }
    }
    public int BlogId { get; set; }
    public string Url { get; set; }
    public DateTime CreatedAt { get; set; }
    public DateTime? DeletedAt { get; set; }
    public string DeletedBy { get; set; }
    public ICollection<Post> Posts { get; set; }

    public override string ToString()
    {
        return $"id:{BlogId} , Url:{Url} , CreatedAt : {CreatedAt}, DeletedBy : {DeletedBy}, DeletedAt: {DeletedAt}";
    }
}

public class Post
{
    public int PostId { get; set; }
    public string Title { get; set; }
    public string Content { get; set; }
    public int BlogId { get; set; }
    public Blog Blog { get; set; }
}

----- To Fix this in .net Core MVC project -- I did below changes on dependency registration

            services
            .AddDbContext<BloggingContext>()
            .AddTransient<IBloggingContext, BloggingContext>()
            .AddTransient<IBloggingContextFactory, BloggingContextFactory>(
                    sp => new BloggingContextFactory( () => sp.GetService<IBloggingContext>())
                );

In short in .net core developer is responsible to inject factory function, which in case of Unity and .Net Framework was taken care of.

Simple proof that GUID is not unique

This will run for a lot more than hours. Assuming it loops at 1 GHz (which it won't - it will be a lot slower than that), it will run for 10790283070806014188970 years. Which is about 83 billion times longer than the age of the universe.

Assuming Moores law holds, it would be a lot quicker to not run this program, wait several hundred years and run it on a computer that is billions of times faster. In fact, any program that takes longer to run than it takes CPU speeds to double (about 18 months) will complete sooner if you wait until the CPU speeds have increased and buy a new CPU before running it (unless you write it so that it can be suspended and resumed on new hardware).

How do I point Crystal Reports at a new database

Choose Database | Set Datasource Location... Select the database node (yellow-ish cylinder) of the current connection, then select the database node of the desired connection (you may need to authenticate), then click Update.

You will need to do this for the 'Subreports' nodes as well.

FYI, you can also do individual tables by selecting each individually, then choosing Update.

How to make/get a multi size .ico file?

I found an app for Mac OSX called ICOBundle that allows you to easily drop a selection of ico files in different sizes onto the ICOBundle.app, prompts you for a folder destination and file name, and it creates the multi-icon .ico file.

Now if it were only possible to mix-in an animated gif version into that one file it'd be a complete icon set, sadly not possible and requires a separate file and code snippet.

npm throws error without sudo

As if we need more answers here, but anyway..

Sindre Sorus has a guide Install npm packages globally without sudo on OS X and Linux outlining how to cleanly install without messing with permissions:

Here is a way to install packages globally for a given user.

  1. Create a directory for your global packages

    mkdir "${HOME}/.npm-packages"

  2. Reference this directory for future usage in your .bashrc/.zshrc:

    NPM_PACKAGES="${HOME}/.npm-packages"

  3. Indicate to npm where to store your globally installed package. In your $HOME/.npmrc file add:

    prefix=${HOME}/.npm-packages

  4. Ensure node will find them. Add the following to your .bashrc/.zshrc:

    NODE_PATH="$NPM_PACKAGES/lib/node_modules:$NODE_PATH"

  5. Ensure you'll find installed binaries and man pages. Add the following to your .bashrc/.zshrc:

    PATH="$NPM_PACKAGES/bin:$PATH"
    # Unset manpath so we can inherit from /etc/manpath via the `manpath`
    # command
    unset MANPATH # delete if you already modified MANPATH elsewhere in your config
    MANPATH="$NPM_PACKAGES/share/man:$(manpath)"

Check out npm-g_nosudo for doing the above steps automagically

Difference between ref and out parameters in .NET

Ref and Out Parameters:

The out and the ref parameters are used to return values in the same variable, that you pass as an argument of a method. These both parameters are very useful when your method needs to return more than one value.

You must assigned value to out parameter in calee method body, otherwise the method won't get compiled.

Ref Parameter : It has to be initialized before passing to the Method. The ref keyword on a method parameter causes a method to refer to the same variable that was passed as an input parameter for the same method. If you do any changes to the variable, they will be reflected in the variable.

int sampleData = 0;
sampleMethod(ref sampleData);

Ex of Ref Parameter

public static void Main()
{
 int i = 3; // Variable need to be initialized
 sampleMethod(ref i );
}

public static void sampleMethod(ref int sampleData)
{
 sampleData++;
}

Out Parameter : It is not necessary to be initialized before passing to Method. The out parameter can be used to return the values in the same variable passed as a parameter of the method. Any changes made to the parameter will be reflected in the variable.

 int sampleData;
 sampleMethod(out sampleData);

Ex of Out Parameter

public static void Main()
{
 int i, j; // Variable need not be initialized
 sampleMethod(out i, out j);
}
public static int sampleMethod(out int sampleData1, out int sampleData2)
{
 sampleData1 = 10;
 sampleData2 = 20;
 return 0;
}

ReadFile in Base64 Nodejs

I think that the following example demonstrates what you need:http://www.hacksparrow.com/base64-encoding-decoding-in-node-js.html

The essence of the article is this code part:

var fs = require('fs');

// function to encode file data to base64 encoded string
function base64_encode(file) {
    // read binary data
    var bitmap = fs.readFileSync(file);
    // convert binary data to base64 encoded string
    return new Buffer(bitmap).toString('base64');
}

// function to create file from base64 encoded string
function base64_decode(base64str, file) {
    // create buffer object from base64 encoded string, it is important to tell the constructor that the string is base64 encoded
    var bitmap = new Buffer(base64str, 'base64');
    // write buffer to file
    fs.writeFileSync(file, bitmap);
    console.log('******** File created from base64 encoded string ********');
}

// convert image to base64 encoded string
var base64str = base64_encode('kitten.jpg');
console.log(base64str);
// convert base64 string back to image
base64_decode(base64str, 'copy.jpg');

SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

I had that same error. I forgot to create a link from sites-enabled/000-default-ssl to the sites-available/default-ssl file.

> ln -s /etc/apache2/sites-available/default-ssl /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default-ssl

Change URL without refresh the page

When you use a function ...

<p onclick="update_url('/en/step2');">Link</p>

<script>
function update_url(url) {
    history.pushState(null, null, url);
}
</script>

UILabel - auto-size label to fit text?

@implementation UILabel (UILabel_Auto)

- (void)adjustHeight {

    if (self.text == nil) {
        self.frame = CGRectMake(self.frame.origin.x, self.frame.origin.y, self.bounds.size.width, 0);
        return;
    }

    CGSize aSize = self.bounds.size;
    CGSize tmpSize = CGRectInfinite.size;
    tmpSize.width = aSize.width;

    tmpSize = [self.text sizeWithFont:self.font constrainedToSize:tmpSize];

    self.frame = CGRectMake(self.frame.origin.x, self.frame.origin.y, aSize.width, tmpSize.height);
}

@end

This is category method. You must set text first, than call this method to adjust UILabel's height.

Search for string and get count in vi editor

Short answer:

:%s/string-to-be-searched//gn

For learning:

There are 3 modes in VI editor as below enter image description here

  • : you are entering from Command to Command-line mode. Now, whatever you write after : is on CLI(Command Line Interface)
  • %s specifies all lines. Specifying the range as % means do substitution in the entire file. Syntax for all occurrences substitution is :%s/old-text/new-text/g
  • g specifies all occurrences in the line. With the g flag , you can make the whole line to be substituted. If this g flag is not used then only first occurrence in the line only will be substituted.
  • n specifies to output number of occurrences
  • //double slash represents omission of replacement text. Because we just want to find.

Once got the number of occurrences, you can Press N Key to see occurrences one-by-one.

For finding and counting in particular range of line number 1 to 10:

:1,10s/hello//gn

  • Please note, % for whole file is repleaced by , separated line numbers.

For finding and replacing in particular range of line number 1 to 10:

:1,10s/helo/hello/gn

When you use 'badidea' or 'thisisunsafe' to bypass a Chrome certificate/HSTS error, does it only apply for the current site?

I'm a PHP developer and to be able to work on my development environment with a certificate, I was able to do the same by finding the real SSL HTTPS/HTTP Certificate and deleting it.

The steps are :

  1. In the address bar, type "chrome://net-internals/#hsts".
  2. Type the domain name in the text field below "Delete domain".
  3. Click the "Delete" button.
  4. Type the domain name in the text field below "Query domain".
  5. Click the "Query" button.
  6. Your response should be "Not found".

You can find more information at : http://classically.me/blogs/how-clear-hsts-settings-major-browsers

Although this solution is not the best, Chrome currently does not have any good solution for the moment. I have escalated this situation with their support team to help improve user experience.

Edit : you have to repeat the steps every time you will go on the production site.

Sequelize, convert entity to plain object

Best and the simple way of doing is :

Just use the default way from Sequelize

db.Sensors.findAll({
    where: {
        nodeid: node.nodeid
    },
    raw : true // <----------- Magic is here
}).success(function (sensors) {
        console.log(sensors);
});

Note : [options.raw] : Return raw result. See sequelize.query for more information.

For the nested result/if we have include model , In latest version of sequlize ,

db.Sensors.findAll({
    where: {
        nodeid: node.nodeid
    },
    include : [
        { model : someModel }
    ]
    raw : true , // <----------- Magic is here
    nest : true // <----------- Magic is here
}).success(function (sensors) {
        console.log(sensors);
});

CSS text-overflow: ellipsis; not working?

Also make sure word-wrap is set to normal for IE10 and below.

The standards referenced below define this property's behavior as being dependent on the setting of the "text-wrap" property. However, wordWrap settings are always effective in Windows Internet Explorer because Internet Explorer does not support the "text-wrap" property.

Hence in my case, word-wrap was set to break-word (inherited or by default?) causing text-overflow to work in FF and Chrome, but not in IE.

What is INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES error?

It's throwing this error for me today because I have an app with a min sdk of 28 and am hitting play on an emulator with an SDK version of 23. Usually this is not possible (AS gray's out the play button), but today not so much.

How to move screen without moving cursor in Vim?

I'm surprised no one is using the Scrolloff option which keeps the cursor in the middle of the page. Try it with:

:set so=999

It's the first recommended method on the Vim wiki and works well.

How do I convert a Swift Array to a String?

Swift 3

["I Love","Swift"].joined(separator:" ") // previously joinWithSeparator(" ")

Remove the first character of a string

Your problem seems unclear. You say you want to remove "a character from a certain position" then go on to say you want to remove a particular character.

If you only need to remove the first character you would do:

s = ":dfa:sif:e"
fixed = s[1:]

If you want to remove a character at a particular position, you would do:

s = ":dfa:sif:e"
fixed = s[0:pos]+s[pos+1:]

If you need to remove a particular character, say ':', the first time it is encountered in a string then you would do:

s = ":dfa:sif:e"
fixed = ''.join(s.split(':', 1))

Detecting when a div's height changes using jQuery

Pretty basic but works:

function dynamicHeight() {
    var height = jQuery('').height();
    jQuery('.edito-wrapper').css('height', editoHeight);
}
editoHeightSize();

jQuery(window).resize(function () {
    editoHeightSize();
});

Nested select statement in SQL Server

You need to alias the subquery.

SELECT name FROM (SELECT name FROM agentinformation) a

or to be more explicit

SELECT a.name FROM (SELECT name FROM agentinformation) a

"Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent"

"Headers already sent" means that your PHP script already sent the HTTP headers, and as such it can't make modifications to them now.

Check that you don't send ANY content before calling session_start. Better yet, just make session_start the first thing you do in your PHP file (so put it at the absolute beginning, before all HTML etc).

Execute a file with arguments in Python shell

This works:

subprocess.call("python abc.py arg1 arg2", shell=True)

How to loop through an array of objects in swift

The photos property is an optional array and must be unwrapped before accessing its elements (the same as you do to get the count property of the array):

for var i = 0; i < userPhotos!.count ; ++i {
    let url = userPhotos![i].url
}

How to remove origin from git repository

Fairly straightforward:

git remote rm origin

As for the filter-branch question - just add --prune-empty to your filter branch command and it'll remove any revision that doesn't actually contain any changes in your resulting repo:

git filter-branch --prune-empty --subdirectory-filter path/to/subtree HEAD

Is there an XSL "contains" directive?

It should be something like...

<xsl:if test="contains($hhref, '1234')">

(not tested)

See w3schools (always a good reference BTW)

How to develop Desktop Apps using HTML/CSS/JavaScript?

CEF offers lot of flexibility and options for customisation. But if the intent is to develop quickly node-webkit is also a good option. Node-web kit also offers ability to call node modules directly from DOM.

If there aren't any native modules to integrate Node-Webkit can offer better mileage. With native modules C/C++ or even C# it is better with CEF.

Using <style> tags in the <body> with other HTML

I guess this will vary from browser to browser: The global display rules will probably be updated as the browser goes along through the code.

You can see such changes in the global display rules sometimes when an external style sheet is loaded with a delay. Something similar might happen here but in such short succession that it doesn't actually get rendered.

It's not valid HTML anyway, so I'd say that it is a futile thing to think about. <style> tags belong in the head section of the page.

How to create the branch from specific commit in different branch

Try

git checkout <commit hash>
git checkout -b new_branch

The commit should only exist once in your tree, not in two separate branches.

This allows you to check out that specific commit and name it what you will.

Java String remove all non numeric characters

A way to replace it with a java 8 stream:

public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException
{
    String test = "ab19198zxncvl1308j10923.";
    StringBuilder result = new StringBuilder();

    test.chars().mapToObj( i-> (char)i ).filter( c -> Character.isDigit(c) || c == '.' ).forEach( c -> result.append(c) );

    System.out.println( result ); //returns 19198.130810923.
}

What's the difference between INNER JOIN, LEFT JOIN, RIGHT JOIN and FULL JOIN?

INNER JOIN gets all records that are common between both tables based on the supplied ON clause.

LEFT JOIN gets all records from the LEFT linked and the related record from the right table ,but if you have selected some columns from the RIGHT table, if there is no related records, these columns will contain NULL.

RIGHT JOIN is like the above but gets all records in the RIGHT table.

FULL JOIN gets all records from both tables and puts NULL in the columns where related records do not exist in the opposite table.

How do you POST to a page using the PHP header() function?

The header function is used to send HTTP response headers back to the user (i.e. you cannot use it to create request headers.

May I ask why are you doing this? Why simulate a POST request when you can just right there and then act on the data someway? I'm assuming of course script.php resides on your server.

To create a POST request, open a up a TCP connection to the host using fsockopen(), then use fwrite() on the handler returned from fsockopen() with the same values you used in the header functions in the OP. Alternatively, you can use cURL.

Select by partial string from a pandas DataFrame

If anyone wonders how to perform a related problem: "Select column by partial string"

Use:

df.filter(like='hello') # select columns which contain the word hello

And to select rows by partial string matching, pass axis=0 to filter:

# selects rows which contain the word hello in their index label
df.filter(like='hello', axis=0)

Add new value to an existing array in JavaScript

it's not so much jquery as javascript

Android EditText delete(backspace) key event

My simple solution which works perfectly. You should to add a flag. My code snippet:

editText.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() {
        @Override
        public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {
            if (after < count) {
                isBackspaceClicked = true;
            } else {
                isBackspaceClicked = false;
            }
        }

        @Override
        public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) { }

        @Override
        public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {
            if (!isBackspaceClicked) {
                // Your current code
            } else {
                // Your "backspace" handling
            }
        }

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

you can also covert int to str first and assign index to it then again convert it to int like this:

int(str(x)[n]) //where x is an integer value

Set focus to field in dynamically loaded DIV

If

$("#header").focus();

is not working then is there another element on your page with the id of header?

Use firebug to run $("#header") and see what it returns.

How can I account for period (AM/PM) using strftime?

The Python time.strftime docs say:

When used with the strptime() function, the %p directive only affects the output hour field if the %I directive is used to parse the hour.

Sure enough, changing your %H to %I makes it work.
