Programs & Examples On #Alt tab

Alt-Tab is the common name for a keyboard shortcut that has been in Microsoft Windows since Windows 3.0. This shortcut switches between top-level windows without using the mouse; hence it was named Task Switcher.

How to make/get a multi size .ico file?

The excellent (free trial) IcoFX allows you to create and edit icons, including multiple sizes up to 256x256, PNG compression, and transparency. I highly recommend it over most of the alternates.

Get your copy here: http://icofx.ro/ . It supports Windows XP onwards.

Windows automatically chooses the proper icon from the file, depending on where it is to be displayed. For more information on icon design and the sizes/bit depths you should include, see these references:

CSS background-size: cover replacement for Mobile Safari

For Safari versions <5.1 the css3 property background-size doesn't work. In such cases you need webkit.

So you need to use -webkit-background-size attribute to specify the background-size.

Hence use -webkit-background-size:cover.

How do I toggle an element's class in pure JavaScript?

Try this (hopefully it will work):

// mixin (functionality) for toggle class
function hasClass(ele, clsName) {
    var el = ele.className;
    el = el.split(' ');
    if(el.indexOf(clsName) > -1){
        var cIndex = el.indexOf(clsName);
        el.splice(cIndex, 1);
        ele.className = " ";
        el.forEach(function(item, index){
          ele.className += " " + item;
        })
    }
    else {
        el.push(clsName);
        ele.className = " ";
        el.forEach(function(item, index){

How to search a specific value in all tables (PostgreSQL)?

How about dumping the contents of the database, then using grep?

$ pg_dump --data-only --inserts -U postgres your-db-name > a.tmp
$ grep United a.tmp
INSERT INTO countries VALUES ('US', 'United States');
INSERT INTO countries VALUES ('GB', 'United Kingdom');

The same utility, pg_dump, can include column names in the output. Just change --inserts to --column-inserts. That way you can search for specific column names, too. But if I were looking for column names, I'd probably dump the schema instead of the data.

$ pg_dump --data-only --column-inserts -U postgres your-db-name > a.tmp
$ grep country_code a.tmp
INSERT INTO countries (iso_country_code, iso_country_name) VALUES ('US', 'United  States');
INSERT INTO countries (iso_country_code, iso_country_name) VALUES ('GB', 'United Kingdom');

How to Count Duplicates in List with LINQ

Slightly shorter version using methods chain:

            .OrderByDescending(x=>x.Count);

foreach (var x in q)
{
    Console.WriteLine("Value: " + x.Value + " Count: " + x.Count);

In jQuery, what's the best way of formatting a number to 2 decimal places?

We modify a Meouw function to be used with keyup, because when you are using an input it can be more helpful.

Check this:

Hey there!, @heridev and I created a small function in jQuery.

You can try next:

HTML

<input type="text" name="one" class="two-digits"><br>
<input type="text" name="two" class="two-digits">?

jQuery

// apply the two-digits behaviour to elements with 'two-digits' as their class
$( function() {
    $('.two-digits').keyup(function(){
        if($(this).val().indexOf('.')!=-1){
            if($(this).val().split(".")[1].length > 2){
                if( isNaN( parseFloat( this.value ) ) ) return;
                this.value = parseFloat(this.value).toFixed(2);
            }
         }
         return this; //for chaining
    });
});

How to reset selected file with input tag file type in Angular 2?

One way to achieve it is to wrap your input in <form> tag and reset it.

I'm not considering attaching thr form to NgForm or FormControl either.

@Component({
  selector: 'form-component',
  template: `
    <form #form>
      <input type="file" placeholder="File Name" name="filename">

    <button (click)="reset()">Reset</button>
`
})
class FormComponent {

  @ViewChild('form') form;

  reset() {
    this.form.nativeElement.reset()

How to search text using php if ($text contains "World")

What you need is strstr()(or stristr(), like LucaB pointed out). Use it like this:

if(strstr($text, "world")) {/* do stuff */}

What is <=> (the 'Spaceship' Operator) in PHP 7?

According to the RFC that introduced the operator, $a <=> $b evaluates to:

  • 0 if $a == $b
  • -1 if $a < $b
  • 1 if $a > $b

which seems to be the case in practice in every scenario I've tried, although strictly the official docs only offer the slightly weaker guarantee that $a <=> $b will return

an integer less than, equal to, or greater than zero when $a is respectively less than, equal to, or greater than $b

Regardless, why would you want such an operator? Again, the RFC addresses this - it's pretty much entirely to make it more convenient to write comparison functions for usort (and the similar uasort and uksort).

usort takes an array to sort as its first argument, and a user-defined comparison function as its second argument. It uses that comparison function to determine which of a pair of elements from the array is greater. The comparison function needs to return:

an integer less than, equal to, or greater than zero if the first argument is considered to be respectively less than, equal to, or greater than the second.

The spaceship operator makes this succinct and convenient:

$things = [
    [
        'foo' => 5.5,
        'bar' => 'abc'
    ],
    [
        'foo' => 7.7,
        'bar' => 'xyz'
    ],
    [
        'foo' => 2.2,
        'bar' => 'efg'
    ]
];

// Sort $things by 'foo' property, ascending
usort($things, function ($a, $b) {
    return $a['foo'] <=> $b['foo'];
});

// Sort $things by 'bar' property, descending
usort($things, function ($a, $b) {
    return $b['bar'] <=> $a['bar'];
});

More examples of comparison functions written using the spaceship operator can be found in the Usefulness section of the RFC.

How do I restrict my EditText input to numerical (possibly decimal and signed) input?

There's no reason to use setRawInputType(), just use setInputType(). However, you have to combine the class and flags with the OR operator:

edit.setInputType(InputType.TYPE_CLASS_NUMBER | InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_FLAG_DECIMAL | InputType.TYPE_NUMBER_FLAG_SIGNED);

How to print an unsigned char in C?

Because char is by default signed declared that means the range of the variable is

-127 to +127>

your value is overflowed. To get the desired value you have to declared the unsigned modifier. the modifier's (unsigned) range is:

Cannot resolve symbol HttpGet,HttpClient,HttpResponce in Android Studio

Just add this in your dependencies

compile 'org.apache.httpcomponents:httpcore:4.4.1'
compile 'org.apache.httpcomponents:httpclient:4.5'

Finally

dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.0.1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:23.0.1'
compile 'org.apache.httpcomponents:httpcore:4.4.1'
compile 'org.apache.httpcomponents:httpclient:4.5'

How do I make an asynchronous GET request in PHP?

Here's an adaptation of the accepted answer for performing a simple GET request.

One thing to note if the server does any url rewriting, this will not work. You'll need to use a more full featured http client.

  /**
   * Performs an async get request (doesn't wait for response)
   * Note: One limitation of this approach is it will not work if server does any URL rewriting
   */
  function async_get($url)
  {
      $parts=parse_url($url);

      $fp = fsockopen($parts['host'],
          isset($parts['port'])?$parts['port']:80,
          $errno, $errstr, 30);

      $out = "GET ".$parts['path']." HTTP/1.1\r\n";
      $out.= "Host: ".$parts['host']."\r\n";
      $out.= "Connection: Close\r\n\r\n";
      fwrite($fp, $out);
      fclose($fp);
  }

Storing sex (gender) in database

There is already an ISO standard for this; no need to invent your own scheme:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_5218

Per the standard, the column should be called "Sex" and the 'closest' data type would be tinyint with a CHECK constraint or lookup table as appropriate.

How can I listen for keypress event on the whole page?

yurzui's answer didn't work for me, it might be a different RC version, or it might be a mistake on my part. Either way, here's how I did it with my component in Angular2 RC4 (which is now quite outdated).

})
export class MyComponent {
    ...
    handleKeyboardEvents(event: KeyboardEvent) {

Ping a site in Python?

Depending on what you want to achive, you are probably easiest calling the system ping command..

Using the subprocess module is the best way of doing this, although you have to remember the ping command is different on different operating systems!

import subprocess

host = "www.google.com"

ping = subprocess.Popen(
    ["ping", "-c", "4", host],
    stdout = subprocess.PIPE,
    stderr = subprocess.PIPE
)

out, error = ping.communicate()
print out

You don't need to worry about shell-escape characters. For example..

host = "google.com; `echo test`

..will not execute the echo command.

Now, to actually get the ping results, you could parse the out variable. Example output:

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 248.139/249.474/250.530/0.896 ms

Example regex:

import re
matcher = re.compile("round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = (\d+.\d+)/(\d+.\d+)/(\d+.\d+)/(\d+.\d+)")
print matcher.search(out).groups()

# ('248.139', '249.474', '250.530', '0.896')

Again, remember the output will vary depending on operating system (and even the version of ping). This isn't ideal, but it will work fine in many situations (where you know the machines the script will be running on)

How to build a 'release' APK in Android Studio?

AndroidStudio is alpha version for now. So you have to edit gradle build script files by yourself. Add next lines to your build.gradle

android {

    signingConfigs {

        release {

            storeFile file('android.keystore')
            storePassword "pwd"
            keyAlias "alias"
            keyPassword "pwd"
        }
    }

    buildTypes {

       release {

           signingConfig signingConfigs.release
       }
    }
}

To actually run your application at emulator or device run gradle installDebug or gradle installRelease.

You can create helloworld project from AndroidStudio wizard to see what structure of gradle files is needed. Or export gradle files from working eclipse project. Also this series of articles are helpfull http://blog.stylingandroid.com/archives/1872#more-1872

How to parse SOAP XML?

var_dump($output->Body->PaymentNotification->payment);

RegEx - Match Numbers of Variable Length

What regex engine are you using? Most of them will support the following expression:

\{\d+:\d+\}

The \d is actually shorthand for [0-9], but the important part is the addition of + which means "one or more".

How can I access the MySQL command line with XAMPP for Windows?

To access the mysql command in Windows without manually changing directories, do this:

  • Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings.
  • System Properties will appear.
  • Click on the 'Advanced' tab.
  • Click 'Environment Variables'.
  • Under System Variables, locate 'Path' and click Edit.
  • Append the path to your MySQL installation to the end of the exisiting 'Variable value'. Example:

    %systemDrive%\xampp\mysql\bin\

    or, if you prefer

    c:\xampp\mysql\bin\
  • Finally, open a new command prompt to make this change take effect.

Note that MySQL's documentation on Setting Environment Variables has little to say about handling this in Windows.

Does PHP have threading?

You can use pcntl_fork() to achieve something similar to threads. Technically it's separate processes, so the communication between the two is not as simple with threads, and I believe it will not work if PHP is called by apache.

Java 32-bit vs 64-bit compatibility

Yes, Java bytecode (and source code) is platform independent, assuming you use platform independent libraries. 32 vs. 64 bit shouldn't matter.

How to force maven update?

For fixing this issue from Eclipse:

1) Add below dependency in Maven pom.xml and save the pom.xml file.

<!-- https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/com.thoughtworks.xstream/xstream -->
<dependency>
    <groupId>com.thoughtworks.xstream</groupId>
    <artifactId>xstream</artifactId>
    <version>1.3.1</version>
</dependency>

2) Go to project >> Maven >> Update Project

select the project and click OK.

3) Optional step, if it's not resolved till step 2 then do below step after doing step-1

Go to project >> Maven >> Update Project >> check in the checkbox 'Force Update of Snapshots/Releases'

select the project and click OK.

Can I perform a DNS lookup (hostname to IP address) using client-side Javascript?

I don't think this is allowed by most browsers for security reasons, in a pure JavaScript context as the question asks.

How to get the current logged in user Id in ASP.NET Core

you have to import Microsoft.AspNetCore.Identity & System.Security.Claims

var userId = User.FindFirstValue(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier);

// to get current user info
var user = await _userManager.FindByIdAsync(userId);

How do you get the "object reference" of an object in java when toString() and hashCode() have been overridden?

You cannot safely do what you want since the default hashCode() may not return the address, and has been mentioned, multiple objects with the same hashCode are possible. The only way to accomplish what you want, is to actually override the hashCode() method for the objects in question and guarantee that they all provide unique values. Whether this is feasible in your situation is another question.

For the record, I have experienced multiple objects with the same default hashcode in an IBM VM running in a WAS server. We had a defect where objects being put into a remote cache would get overwritten because of this. That was an eye opener for me at that point since I assumed the default hashcode was the objects memory address as well.

Execution order of events when pressing PrimeFaces p:commandButton

I just love getting information like BalusC gives here - and he is kind enough to help SO many people with such GOOD information that I regard his words as gospel, but I was not able to use that order of events to solve this same kind of timing issue in my project. Since BalusC put a great general reference here that I even bookmarked, I thought I would donate my solution for some advanced timing issues in the same place since it does solve the original poster's timing issues as well. I hope this code helps someone:

        <p:pickList id="formPickList"
                    value="#{mediaDetail.availableMedia}"
                    converter="MediaPicklistConverter"
                    widgetVar="formsPicklistWidget"
                    var="mediaFiles"
                    itemLabel="#{mediaFiles.mediaTitle}"
                    itemValue="#{mediaFiles}" >
            <f:facet name="sourceCaption">Available Media</f:facet>
            <f:facet name="targetCaption">Chosen Media</f:facet>
        </p:pickList>

        <p:commandButton id="viewStream_btn"
                         value="Stream chosen media"
                         icon="fa fa-download"
                         ajax="true"
                         action="#{mediaDetail.prepareStreams}"
                         update=":streamDialogPanel"
                         oncomplete="PF('streamingDialog').show()"
                         styleClass="ui-priority-primary"
                         style="margin-top:5px" >
            <p:ajax process="formPickList"  />
        </p:commandButton>

The dialog is at the top of the XHTML outside this form and it has a form of its own embedded in the dialog along with a datatable which holds additional commands for streaming the media that all needed to be primed and ready to go when the dialog is presented. You can use this same technique to do things like download customized documents that need to be prepared before they are streamed to the user's computer via fileDownload buttons in the dialog box as well.

As I said, this is a more complicated example, but it hits all the high points of your problem and mine. When the command button is clicked, the result is to first insure the backing bean is updated with the results of the pickList, then tell the backing bean to prepare streams for the user based on their selections in the pick list, then update the controls in the dynamic dialog with an update, then show the dialog box ready for the user to start streaming their content.

The trick to it was to use BalusC's order of events for the main commandButton and then to add the <p:ajax process="formPickList" /> bit to ensure it was executed first - because nothing happens correctly unless the pickList updated the backing bean first (something that was not happening for me before I added it). So, yea, that commandButton rocks because you can affect previous, pending and current components as well as the backing beans - but the timing to interrelate all of them is not easy to get a handle on sometimes.

Happy coding!

How do I import/include MATLAB functions?

If the folder just contains functions then adding the folders to the path at the start of the script will suffice.

addpath('../folder_x/');
addpath('../folder_y/');

If they are Packages, folders starting with a '+' then they also need to be imported.

import package_x.*
import package_y.*

You need to add the package folders parent to the search path.

How do I put variables inside javascript strings?

As of node.js >4.0 it gets more compatible with ES6 standard, where string manipulation greatly improved.

The answer to the original question can be as simple as:

var s = `hello ${my_name}, how are you doing`;
// note: tilt ` instead of single quote '

Where the string can spread multiple lines, it makes templates or HTML/XML processes quite easy. More details and more capabilitie about it: Template literals are string literals at mozilla.org.

What is the most useful script you've written for everyday life?

Class not registered Error

I was getting the below error in my 32 bit application.

Error: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {4911BB26-11EE-4182-B66C-64DF2FA6502D} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)).

And on setting the "Enable32bitApplications" to true in defaultapplicationpool in IIS worked for me.

Combining INSERT INTO and WITH/CTE

You need to put the CTE first and then combine the INSERT INTO with your select statement. Also, the "AS" keyword following the CTE's name is not optional:

WITH tab AS (
    bla bla
)
INSERT INTO dbo.prf_BatchItemAdditionalAPartyNos (
BatchID,
AccountNo,
APartyNo,
SourceRowID
)
SELECT * FROM tab

Please note that the code assumes that the CTE will return exactly four fields and that those fields are matching in order and type with those specified in the INSERT statement. If that is not the case, just replace the "SELECT *" with a specific select of the fields that you require.

As for your question on using a function, I would say "it depends". If you are putting the data in a table just because of performance reasons, and the speed is acceptable when using it through a function, then I'd consider function to be an option. On the other hand, if you need to use the result of the CTE in several different queries, and speed is already an issue, I'd go for a table (either regular, or temp).

How to show progress bar while loading, using ajax

Here is an example that's working for me with MVC and Javascript in the Razor. The first function calls an action via ajax on my controller and passes two parameters.

        function redirectToAction(var1, var2)
        {
            try{

                var url = '../actionnameinsamecontroller/' + routeId;

                $.ajax({
                    type: "GET",
                    url: url,
                    data: { param1: var1, param2: var2 },
                    dataType: 'html',
                    success: function(){
                    },
                    error: function(xhr, ajaxOptions, thrownError){
                        alert(error);
                    }
                });

            }
            catch(err)
            {
                alert(err.message);
            }
        }

Use the ajaxStart to start your progress bar code.

           $(document).ajaxStart(function(){
            try
            {
                // showing a modal
                $("#progressDialog").modal();

                var i = 0;
                var timeout = 750;

                (function progressbar()
                {
                    i++;
                    if(i < 1000)
                    {
                        // some code to make the progress bar move in a loop with a timeout to
                        // control the speed of the bar
                        iterateProgressBar();
                        setTimeout(progressbar, timeout);
                    }
                }
                )();
            }
            catch(err)
            {
                alert(err.message);
            }
        });

When the process completes close the progress bar

        $(document).ajaxStop(function(){
            // hide the progress bar
            $("#progressDialog").modal('hide');
        });

How to create a drop-down list?

You can create spinner by these simple steps

first create spinner in xml

<Spinner
        android:id="@+id/select"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent"
        android:textColor="#070707"></Spinner>

now create string arary in values

 <string-array name="itemselect">
    <item>Repurchase</item>
    <item>Coupons</item>
</string-array>

now initialized in java file

public class MemberCart_Activity extends AppCompatActivity {

Spinner select;
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_member_cart);

    select=findViewById(R.id.select);
 ArrayAdapter<String> myadapter=new ArrayAdapter<String>(Main_Activity.this,android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1,getResources().getStringArray(R.array.itemselect));
    myadapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item);
    select.setAdapter(myadapter);

How do you kill a Thread in Java?

See this thread by Sun on why they deprecated Thread.stop(). It goes into detail about why this was a bad method and what should be done to safely stop threads in general.

The way they recommend is to use a shared variable as a flag which asks the background thread to stop. This variable can then be set by a different object requesting the thread terminate.

How to resolve merge conflicts in Git repository?

See How Conflicts Are Presented or, in Git, the git merge documentation to understand what merge conflict markers are.

Also, the How to Resolve Conflicts section explains how to resolve the conflicts:

After seeing a conflict, you can do two things:

  • Decide not to merge. The only clean-ups you need are to reset the index file to the HEAD commit to reverse 2. and to clean up working tree changes made by 2. and 3.; git merge --abort can be used for this.

  • Resolve the conflicts. Git will mark the conflicts in the working tree. Edit the files into shape and git add them to the index. Use git commit to seal the deal.

You can work through the conflict with a number of tools:

  • Use a mergetool. git mergetool to launch a graphical mergetool which will work you through the merge.

  • Look at the diffs. git diff will show a three-way diff, highlighting changes from both the HEAD and MERGE_HEAD versions.

  • Look at the diffs from each branch. git log --merge -p <path> will show diffs first for the HEAD version and then the MERGE_HEAD version.

  • Look at the originals. git show :1:filename shows the common ancestor, git show :2:filename shows the HEAD version, and git show :3:filename shows the MERGE_HEAD version.

You can also read about merge conflict markers and how to resolve them in the Pro Git book section Basic Merge Conflicts.

How can I auto increment the C# assembly version via our CI platform (Hudson)?

A simple alternative is to let the C# environment increment the assembly version for you by setting the version attribute to major.minor.* (as described in the AssemblyInfo file template.)

You may be looking for a more comprehensive solution, though.

EDIT (Response to the question in a comment):

From AssemblyInfo.cs:

// Version information for an assembly consists of the following four values:
//
//      Major Version
//      Minor Version
//      Build Number
//      Revision
//
// You can specify all the values or you can default the Build and Revision Numbers
// by using the '*' as shown below:
// [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")]

Using cURL with a username and password?

I had the same need in bash (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) and the commands provided in the answers failed to work in my case. I had to use:

curl -X POST -F 'username="$USER"' -F 'password="$PASS"' "http://api.somesite.com/test/blah?something=123"

Double quotes in the -F arguments are only needed if you're using variables, thus from the command line ... -F 'username=myuser' ... will be fine.

Relevant Security Notice: as Mr. Mark Ribau points in comments this command shows the password ($PASS variable, expanded) in the processlist!

What's the best way to share data between activities?

Well I have a few ideas, but I don't know if they are what your looking for.

You could use a service that holds all of the data and then just bind your activities to the service for data retrival.

Or package your data into a serializable or parcelable and attach them to a bundle and pass the bundle between activities.

This one may not be at all what your looking for, but you could also try using a SharedPreferences or a preference in general.

Either way let me know what you decide.

Why can't I push to this bare repository?

If you:

 git push origin master

it will push to the bare repo.

It sounds like your alice repo isn't tracking correctly.

cat .git/config

This will show the default remote and branch.

If you

 git push -u origin master

You should start tracking that remote and branch. I'm not sure if that option has always been in git.

Verilog generate/genvar in an always block

If you do not mind having to compile/generate the file then you could use a pre processing technique. This gives you the power of the generate but results in a clean Verilog file which is often easier to debug and leads to less simulator issues.

I use RubyIt to generate verilog files from templates using ERB (Embedded Ruby).

parameter ROWBITS = <%= ROWBITS %> ;
always @(posedge sysclk) begin
  <% (0...ROWBITS).each do |addr| -%>
    temp[<%= addr %>] <= 1'b0;
  <% end -%>
end

Generating the module_name.v file with :

$ ruby_it --parameter ROWBITS=4 --outpath ./ --file ./module_name.rv

The generated module_name.v

parameter ROWBITS = 4 ;
always @(posedge sysclk) begin
  temp[0] <= 1'b0;
  temp[1] <= 1'b0;
  temp[2] <= 1'b0;
  temp[3] <= 1'b0;
end

How to use passive FTP mode in Windows command prompt?

CURL client supports FTP protocol and works for passive mode. Get Download WITHOUT SSL version and you don't need any openssl.dll libraries. Just one curl.exe command line application.
http://www.paehl.com/open_source/?CURL_7.35.0

curl.exe -T c:\test\myfile.dat ftp://ftp.server.com/some/folder/myfile.dat --user myuser:mypwd

Another one is Putty psftp.exe but server key verification prompt requires a trick. This command line inputs NO for prompt meaning key is not stored in registry just this time being used. You need an external script file but sometimes its good if you copy multiple files up and down.
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

echo n | psftp.exe ftp.server.com -l myuser -pw mypwd -b script.txt

script.txt (any ftp command may be typed)

put "C:\test\myfile.dat" "/some/folder/myfile.dat"
quit

Windows- Pyinstaller Error "failed to execute script " When App Clicked

Add this function at the beginning of your script :

import sys, os
    def resource_path(relative_path):
        if hasattr(sys, '_MEIPASS'):
            return os.path.join(sys._MEIPASS, relative_path)
        return os.path.join(os.path.abspath("."), relative_path)

Refer to your data files by calling the function resource_path(), like this:

resource_path('myimage.gif')

Then use this command:

pyinstaller --onefile --windowed --add-data todo.ico;. script.py

How to change angular port from 4200 to any other

It seems things have changed in recent versions of the CLI (I'm using 6.0.1). I was able to change the default port used by ng serve by adding a port option to my project's angular.json:

{
    "$schema": "./node_modules/@angular/cli/lib/config/schema.json",
    "projects": {
        "my-project": {
            "architect": {
                "serve": {
                    "options": {
                        "port": 4201
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

Simple dictionary in C++

Until I was really concerned about performance, I would use a function, that takes a base and returns its match:

char base_pair(char base)
{
    switch(base) {
        case 'T': return 'A';
        ... etc
        default: // handle error
    }
}

If I was concerned about performance, I would define a base as one fourth of a byte. 0 would represent A, 1 would represent G, 2 would represent C, and 3 would represent T. Then I would pack 4 bases into a byte, and to get their pairs, I would simply take the complement.

Insert images to XML file

Since XML is a text format and images are usually not (except some ancient and archaic formats) there is no really sensible way to do it. Looking at things like ODT or OOXML also shows you that they don't embed images directly into XML.

What you can do, however, is convert it to Base64 or similar and embed it into the XML.

XML's whitespace handling may further complicate things in such cases, though.

Convert a list to a data frame

Every solution I have found seems to only apply when every object in a list has the same length. I needed to convert a list to a data.frame when the length of the objects in the list were of unequal length. Below is the base R solution I came up with. It no doubt is very inefficient, but it does seem to work.

x1 <- c(2, 13)
x2 <- c(2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13)
x3 <- c(1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12, 13, 13)
my.results <- list(x1, x2, x3)

# identify length of each list
my.lengths <- unlist(lapply(my.results, function (x) { length(unlist(x))}))
my.lengths
#[1]  2  6 20

# create a vector of values in all lists
my.values <- as.numeric(unlist(c(do.call(rbind, lapply(my.results, as.data.frame)))))
my.values
#[1]  2 13  2  4  6  9 11 13  1  1  2  3  3  4  5  5  6  7  7  8  9  9 10 11 11 12 13 13

my.matrix <- matrix(NA, nrow = max(my.lengths), ncol = length(my.lengths))

my.cumsum <- cumsum(my.lengths)

mm <- 1

for(i in 1:length(my.lengths)) {

     my.matrix[1:my.lengths[i],i] <- my.values[mm:my.cumsum[i]]

     mm <- my.cumsum[i]+1

}

Best way to handle list.index(might-not-exist) in python?

I'd suggest:

if thing in thing_list:
  list_index = -1
else:
  list_index = thing_list.index(thing)

Creating columns in listView and add items

Your first problem is that you are passing -3 to the 2nd parameter of Columns.Add. It needs to be -2 for it to auto-size the column. Source: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.listview.columns.aspx (look at the comments on the code example at the bottom)

private void initListView()
{
    // Add columns
    lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Id", -2,HorizontalAlignment.Left);
    lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Name", -2, HorizontalAlignment.Left);
    lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Age", -2, HorizontalAlignment.Left);
}

You can also use the other overload, Add(string). E.g:

lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Id");
lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Name");
lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Age");

Reference for more overloads: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.forms.listview.columnheadercollection.aspx

Second, to add items to the ListView, you need to create instances of ListViewItem and add them to the listView's Items collection. You will need to use the string[] constructor.

var item1 = new ListViewItem(new[] {"id123", "Tom", "24"});
var item2 = new ListViewItem(new[] {person.Id, person.Name, person.Age});
lvRegAnimals.Items.Add(item1);
lvRegAnimals.Items.Add(item2);

You can also store objects in the item's Tag property.

item2.Tag = person;

And then you can extract it

var person = item2.Tag as Person;

Let me know if you have any questions and I hope this helps!

C++: How to round a double to an int?

add 0.5 before casting (if x > 0) or subtract 0.5 (if x < 0), because the compiler will always truncate.

float x = 55; // stored as 54.999999...
x = x + 0.5 - (x<0); // x is now 55.499999...
int y = (int)x; // truncated to 55

C++11 also introduces std::round, which likely uses a similar logic of adding 0.5 to |x| under the hood (see the link if interested) but is obviously more robust.

A follow up question might be why the float isn't stored as exactly 55. For an explanation, see this stackoverflow answer.

Remove a specific string from an array of string

It is not possible in on step or you need to keep the reference to the array. If you can change the reference this can help:

      String[] n = new String[]{"google","microsoft","apple"};
      final List<String> list =  new ArrayList<String>();
      Collections.addAll(list, n);
      list.remove("apple");
      n = list.toArray(new String[list.size()]);

I not recommend the following but if you worry about performance:

      String[] n = new String[]{"google","microsoft","apple"};
      final String[] n2 = new String[2];
      System.arraycopy(n, 0, n2, 0, n2.length);
      for (int i = 0, j = 0; i < n.length; i++)
      {
        if (!n[i].equals("apple"))
        {
          n2[j] = n[i];
          j++;
        }
      }

I not recommend it because the code is a lot more difficult to read and maintain.

Running code after Spring Boot starts

Best way to execute block of code after Spring Boot application started is using PostConstruct annotation.Or also you can use command line runner for the same.

1. Using PostConstruct annotation

@Configuration
public class InitialDataConfiguration {

    @PostConstruct
    public void postConstruct() {
        System.out.println("Started after Spring boot application !");
    }

}

2. Using command line runner bean

@Configuration
public class InitialDataConfiguration {

    @Bean
    CommandLineRunner runner() {
        return args -> {
            System.out.println("CommandLineRunner running in the UnsplashApplication class...");
        };
    }
}

MySQL Job failed to start

Reinstallation will works because it will reset all the value to default. It is better to find what the real culprits (my.cnf editing mistake does happens, e.g. bad/outdated parameter suggestion during mysql tuning.)

Here is the mysql diagnosis if you suspect some value is wrong inside my.cnf : Run the mysqld to show you the results.

sudo -u mysql  mysqld

Afterwards, fix all the my.cnf key error that pop out from the screen until mysqld startup successfully.

Then restart it using

sudo service mysql restart

How to change color and font on ListView

You need to create a CustomListAdapter.

public class CustomListAdapter extends ArrayAdapter <String> {

    private Context mContext;
    private int id;
    private List <String>items ;

    public CustomListAdapter(Context context, int textViewResourceId , List<String> list )
    {
        super(context, textViewResourceId, list);
        mContext = context;
        id = textViewResourceId;
        items = list ;
    }

    @Override
    public View getView(int position, View v, ViewGroup parent)
    {
        View mView = v ;
        if(mView == null){
            LayoutInflater vi = (LayoutInflater)mContext.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
            mView = vi.inflate(id, null);
        }

        TextView text = (TextView) mView.findViewById(R.id.textView);

        if(items.get(position) != null )
        {
            text.setTextColor(Color.WHITE);
            text.setText(items.get(position));
            text.setBackgroundColor(Color.RED);
            int color = Color.argb( 200, 255, 64, 64 );
                text.setBackgroundColor( color );

        }

        return mView;
    }

}

The list item looks like this (custom_list.xml):

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
  xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
  android:layout_width="wrap_content"
  android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<TextView
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:id="@+id/textView"
    android:textSize="20px" android:paddingTop="10dip" android:paddingBottom="10dip"/>
</LinearLayout>

Use the TextView api's to decorate your text to your liking

and you will be using it like this

listAdapter = new CustomListAdapter(YourActivity.this , R.layout.custom_list , mList);
mListView.setAdapter(listAdapter);

How to semantically add heading to a list

  <dd>Bananas</dd>
  <dd>Oranges</dd>
</dl>

JavaScript closure inside loops – simple practical example

With the support of ES6, the best way to this is to use let and const keywords for this exact circumstance. So var variable get hoisted and with the end of loop the value of i gets updated for all the closures..., we can just use let to set a loop scope variable like this:

var funcs = [];
for (let i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
    funcs[i] = function() {
      console.log("My value: " + i);
    };
}

HashMap(key: String, value: ArrayList) returns an Object instead of ArrayList?

I suppose your dictMap is of type HashMap, which makes it default to HashMap<Object, Object>. If you want it to be more specific, declare it as HashMap<String, ArrayList>, or even better, as HashMap<String, ArrayList<T>>

What is the difference between Numpy's array() and asarray() functions?

The definition of asarray is:

def asarray(a, dtype=None, order=None):
    return array(a, dtype, copy=False, order=order)

So it is like array, except it has fewer options, and copy=False. array has copy=True by default.

The main difference is that array (by default) will make a copy of the object, while asarray will not unless necessary.

What is the difference between JOIN and JOIN FETCH when using JPA and Hibernate

If you have @oneToOne mapping set to FetchType.LAZY and you use second query (because you need Department objects to be loaded as part of Employee objects) what Hibernate will do is, it will issue queries to fetch Department objects for every individual Employee object it fetches from DB.

Later, in the code you might access Department objects via Employee to Department single-valued association and Hibernate will not issue any query to fetch Department object for the given Employee.

Remember, Hibernate still issues queries equal to the number of Employees it has fetched. Hibernate will issue same number of queries in both above queries, if you wish to access Department objects of all Employee objects

How can I get enum possible values in a MySQL database?

You can get the values by querying it like this:

SELECT SUBSTRING(COLUMN_TYPE,5)
FROM information_schema.COLUMNS
WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA='databasename'
    AND TABLE_NAME='tablename'
    AND COLUMN_NAME='columnname'

From there you'll need to convert it into an array:

  • eval that directly into an array if you're lazy (although MySQL's single quote escape might be incompatible), or
  • $options_array = str_getcsv($options, ',', "'") possibly would work (if you alter the substring to skip the opening and closing parentheses), or
  • a regular expression

ESRI : Failed to parse source map

While the chosen answer is a good answer to hide the error, it doesn't make the error go away, it's just that you can't see it in the inspector. The other way would be to download the missing map file and put it in the assets/lib directory. So, for example, I was missing angular-route.min.js.map file and I went here https://code.angularjs.org/1.5.3/ (to the correct version of angular) and downloaded the missing file. The error didn't disappear right away, possibly because of caching, but once I went to the actual file in the browser it worked. http://sitename.localhost/assets/lib/angular-route.min.js.map. Now the inspector no longer displays the error even with source maps enabled.

Syntax for a for loop in ruby

Calculating and printing the nth prime number

This program is an efficient one. I have added one more check-in if to get the square root of a number and check is it divisible or not if it's then its not a prime number. this will solve all the problems efficiently.

        if(1<= T && T <= 30){
        for(int i =0;i<T;i++){
            number[i]=sc.nextInt(); // read all the numbers
        }
        for(int i =0;i<T;i++){
            if(isPrime(number[i]))

Refresh image with a new one at the same url

I had this same issue using the Unsplash random image feature. The idea of adding a dummy query string to the end of the URL is correct, but in this instance a completely random parameter doesn't work (I tried it). I can imagine it's the same for some other services too, but for unsplash the parameter needs to be sig, so your image URL would be, for example, http://example.net/image.jpg?sig=RANDOM where random is a random string that will NOT be the same when you update it. I used Math.random()*100 but date is suitable too.

You need to do the above because without it, the browser will see that the image at said path has already been loaded, and will use that cached image to speed up loading.

Rotate label text in seaborn factorplot

Aman is correct that you can use normal matplotlib commands, but this is also built into the FacetGrid:

import seaborn as sns
planets = sns.load_dataset("planets")
g = sns.factorplot("year", data=planets, aspect=1.5, kind="count", color="b")
g.set_xticklabels(rotation=30)

enter image description here

There are some comments and another answer claiming this "doesn't work", however, anyone can run the code as written here and see that it does work. The other answer does not provide a reproducible example of what isn't working, making it very difficult to address, but my guess is that people are trying to apply this solution to the output of functions that return an Axes object instead of a Facet Grid. These are different things, and the Axes.set_xticklabels() method does indeed require a list of labels and cannot simply change the properties of the existing labels on the Axes. The lesson is that it's important to pay attention to what kind of objects you are working with.

Finding the median of an unsorted array

Let the problem be: finding the Kth largest element in an unsorted array.

Divide the array into n/5 groups where each group consisting of 5 elements.

Now a1,a2,a3....a(n/5) represent the medians of each group.

x = Median of the elements a1,a2,.....a(n/5).

Now if k<n/2 then we can remove the largets, 2nd largest and 3rd largest element of the groups whose median is greater than the x. We can now call the function again with 7n/10 elements and finding the kth largest value.

else if k>n/2 then we can remove the smallest ,2nd smallest and 3rd smallest element of the group whose median is smaller than the x. We can now call the function of again with 7n/10 elements and finding the (k-3n/10)th largest value.

Time Complexity Analysis: T(n) time complexity to find the kth largest in an array of size n.

T(n) = T(n/5) + T(7n/10) + O(n)

if you solve this you will find out that T(n) is actually O(n)

n/5 + 7n/10 = 9n/10 < n

Using Apache POI how to read a specific excel column

Okay, from your question, you just simply want to read a particular column. So, while iterating over a row and then on its cells, your can simply check the index of the column.

Iterator<Row> rowIterator = mySheet.iterator(); // Traversing over each row of XLSX file
        while (rowIterator.hasNext()) {
            Row row = rowIterator.next(); // For each row, iterate through each columns
            Iterator<Cell> cellIterator = row.cellIterator();
            while (cellIterator.hasNext()) {
                Cell cell = cellIterator.next();
                println "column index"+cell.getColumnIndex()//You will have your columns fixed in Excel file
                if(cell.getColumnIndex()==3)//for example of c
                {
                print "done"
                }
          }
     }

How does functools partial do what it does?

short answer, partial gives default values to the parameters of a function that would otherwise not have default values.

from functools import partial

def foo(a,b):
    return a+b

bar = partial(foo, a=1) # equivalent to: foo(a=1, b)
bar(b=10)
#11 = 1+10
bar(a=101, b=10)
#111=101+10

Escaping ampersand in URL

I would like to add a minor comment on Blender solution.

You can do the following:

var link = 'http://example.com?candy_name=' + encodeURIComponent('M&M');

That outputs:

http://example.com?candy_name=M%26M

The great thing about this it does not only work for & but for any especial character.

For instance:

var link = 'http://example.com?candy_name=' + encodeURIComponent('M&M?><')

Outputs:

"http://example.com?candy_name=M%26M%3F%3E%3C"

How do I get list of methods in a Python class?

There's this approach:

[getattr(obj, m) for m in dir(obj) if not m.startswith('__')]

When dealing with a class instance, perhaps it'd be better to return a list with the method references instead of just names¹. If that's your goal, as well as

  1. Using no import
  2. Excluding private methods (e.g. __init__) from the list

It may be of use. You might also want to assure it's callable(getattr(obj, m)), since dir returns all attributes within obj, not just methods.

In a nutshell, for a class like

class Ghost:
    def boo(self, who):
        return f'Who you gonna call? {who}'

We could check instance retrieval with

>>> g = Ghost()
>>> methods = [getattr(g, m) for m in dir(g) if not m.startswith('__')]
>>> print(methods)
[<bound method Ghost.boo of <__main__.Ghost object at ...>>]

So you can call it right away:

>>> for method in methods:
...     print(method('GHOSTBUSTERS'))
...
Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS

¹ An use case:

I used this for unit testing. Had a class where all methods performed variations of the same process - which led to lengthy tests, each only a tweak away from the others. DRY was a far away dream.

Thought I should have a single test for all methods, so I made the above iteration.

Although I realized I should instead refactor the code itself to be DRY-compliant anyway... this may still serve a random nitpicky soul in the future.

Appending pandas dataframes generated in a for loop

Use pd.concat to merge a list of DataFrame into a single big DataFrame.

appended_data = []
for infile in glob.glob("*.xlsx"):
    data = pandas.read_excel(infile)
    # store DataFrame in list
    appended_data.append(data)
# see pd.concat documentation for more info
appended_data = pd.concat(appended_data)
# write DataFrame to an excel sheet
appended_data.to_excel('appended.xlsx')

Simplest/cleanest way to implement a singleton in JavaScript

You can do it with decorators like in this example below for TypeScript:

class YourClass {

    @Singleton static singleton() {}

}

function Singleton(target, name, descriptor) {
    var instance;
    descriptor.value = () => {
        if(!instance) instance = new target;
        return instance;
    };
}

Then you use your singleton like this:

var myInstance = YourClass.singleton();

As of this writing, decorators are not readily available in JavaScript engines. You would need to make sure your JavaScript runtime has decorators actually enabled or use compilers like Babel and TypeScript.

Also note that the singleton instance is created "lazy", i.e., it is created only when you use it for the first time.

an Enum is a safe-type so you can't assign a new value at the runtime. Moreover you can use it in a switch statement (like an int).

How to get progress from XMLHttpRequest

For the bytes uploaded it is quite easy. Just monitor the xhr.upload.onprogress event. The browser knows the size of the files it has to upload and the size of the uploaded data, so it can provide the progress info.

For the bytes downloaded (when getting the info with xhr.responseText), it is a little bit more difficult, because the browser doesn't know how many bytes will be sent in the server request. The only thing that the browser knows in this case is the size of the bytes it is receiving.

There is a solution for this, it's sufficient to set a Content-Length header on the server script, in order to get the total size of the bytes the browser is going to receive.

For more go to https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Using_XMLHttpRequest .

Example: My server script reads a zip file (it takes 5 seconds):

$filesize=filesize('test.zip');

header("Content-Length: " . $filesize); // set header length
// if the headers is not set then the evt.loaded will be 0
readfile('test.zip');
exit 0;

Now I can monitor the download process of the server script, because I know it's total length:

function updateProgress(evt)
{
   if (evt.lengthComputable)
   { // evt.loaded the bytes the browser received
      // evt.total the total bytes set by the header
      // jQuery UI progress bar to show the progress on screen
     var percentComplete = (evt.loaded / evt.total) * 100;
     $('#progressbar').progressbar( "option", "value", percentComplete );
   }
}
function sendreq(evt)
{
    var req = new XMLHttpRequest();
    $('#progressbar').progressbar();
    req.onprogress = updateProgress;
    req.open('GET', 'test.php', true);
    req.onreadystatechange = function (aEvt) {
        if (req.readyState == 4)
        {
             //run any callback here
        }
    };
    req.send();
}

Python re.sub replace with matched content

A backreference to the whole match value is \g<0>, see re.sub documentation:

The backreference \g<0> substitutes in the entire substring matched by the RE.

See the Python demo:

method = 'images/:id/huge'
print(re.sub(r':[a-z]+', r'<span>\g<0></span>', method))
# => images/<span>:id</span>/huge

Reading InputStream as UTF-8

I ran into the same problem every time it finds a special character marks it as ??. to solve this, I tried using the encoding: ISO-8859-1

while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {

}

I hope this can help anyone who sees this post.

What is an alternative to execfile in Python 3?

While exec(open("filename").read()) is often given as an alternative to execfile("filename"), it misses important details that execfile supported.

The following function for Python3.x is as close as I could get to having the same behavior as executing a file directly. That matches running python /path/to/somefile.py.

def execfile(filepath, globals=None, locals=None):
    if globals is None:
        globals = {}
    globals.update({
        "__file__": filepath,
        "__name__": "__main__",
    })
    with open(filepath, 'rb') as file:
        exec(compile(file.read(), filepath, 'exec'), globals, locals)

# execute the file
execfile("/path/to/somefile.py")

Notes:

  • Uses binary reading to avoid encoding issues
  • Guaranteed to close the file (Python3.x warns about this)
  • Defines __main__, some scripts depend on this to check if they are loading as a module or not for eg. if __name__ == "__main__"
  • Setting __file__ is nicer for exception messages and some scripts use __file__ to get the paths of other files relative to them.
  • Takes optional globals & locals arguments, modifying them in-place as execfile does - so you can access any variables defined by reading back the variables after running.

  • Unlike Python2's execfile this does not modify the current namespace by default. For that you have to explicitly pass in globals() & locals().

wget ssl alert handshake failure

You probably have an old version of wget. I suggest installing wget using Chocolatey, the package manager for Windows. This should give you a more recent version (if not the latest).

Run this command after having installed Chocolatey (as Administrator):

choco install wget

Check if a variable is a string in JavaScript

I also found that this works fine too, and its a lot shorter than the other examples.

if (myVar === myVar + '') {
   //its string
} else {
   //its something else
}

By concatenating on empty quotes it turns the value into a string. If myVar is already a string then the if statement is successful.

How to exit from the application and show the home screen?

(I tried previous answers but they lacks in some points. For example if you don't do a return; after finishing activity, remaining activity code runs. Also you need to edit onCreate with return. If you doesn't run super.onCreate() you will get a runtime error)

Say you have MainActivity and ChildActivity.

Inside ChildActivity add this:

Intent intent = new Intent(ChildActivity.this, MainActivity.class);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
intent.putExtra("EXIT", true);
startActivity(intent);
return true;

Inside MainActivity's onCreate add this:

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {

    mContext = getApplicationContext();

    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

    if (getIntent().getBooleanExtra("EXIT", false)) {
        finish();
        return;
    }
    // your current codes
    // your current codes
}

How to style components using makeStyles and still have lifecycle methods in Material UI?

Another one solution can be used for class components - just override default MUI Theme properties with MuiThemeProvider. This will give more flexibility in comparison with other methods - you can use more than one MuiThemeProvider inside your parent component.

simple steps:

  1. import MuiThemeProvider to your class component
  2. import createMuiTheme to your class component
  3. create new theme
  4. wrap target MUI component you want to style with MuiThemeProvider and your custom theme

please, check this doc for more details: https://material-ui.com/customization/theming/

Powershell script to see currently logged in users (domain and machine) + status (active, idle, away)

If you want to find interactively logged on users, I found a great tip here :https://p0w3rsh3ll.wordpress.com/2012/02/03/get-logged-on-users/ (Win32_ComputerSystem did not help me)

$explorerprocesses = @(Get-WmiObject -Query "Select * FROM Win32_Process WHERE Name='explorer.exe'" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)
If ($explorerprocesses.Count -eq 0)
{
    "No explorer process found / Nobody interactively logged on"
}
Else
{
    ForEach ($i in $explorerprocesses)
    {
        $Username = $i.GetOwner().User
        $Domain = $i.GetOwner().Domain
        Write-Host "$Domain\$Username logged on since: $($i.ConvertToDateTime($i.CreationDate))"

How to remove CocoaPods from a project?

I think there's a more easy way to do that.

As edited by the accepted answer, now you can use a third party plugin cocoapods-deintegrate, it's reliable because its made by a CocoaPods core team member.

But,there're still some files remain:

Podfile
Podfile.lock
Workspace

You could remove them from your project manually,but there's also another tool for helping you to clean them, thanks cocoapods-clean.

Finally, the uninstallation work is still not completed, cocoapods-clean don't clean the Podfile, just run:

rm Podfile

Cheers!

Before removing you should ensure you have a backup of your project!

How to specify a port to run a create-react-app based project?

In your package.json, go to scripts and use --port 4000 or set PORT=4000, like in the example below:

package.json (Windows):

"scripts": {
    "start": "set PORT=4000 && react-scripts start"
}

package.json (Ubuntu):

"scripts": {
    "start": "export PORT=4000 && react-scripts start"
}

What is SYSNAME data type in SQL Server?

sysname is used by sp_send_dbmail, a stored procedure that "Sends an e-mail message to the specified recipients" and located in the msdb database.

According to Microsoft,

[ @profile_name = ] 'profile_name'

Is the name of the profile to send the message from. The profile_name is of type sysname, with a default of NULL. The profile_name must be the name of an existing Database Mail profile. When no profile_name is specified, sp_send_dbmail uses the default private profile for the current user. If the user does not have a default private profile, sp_send_dbmail uses the default public profile for the msdb database. If the user does not have a default private profile and there is no default public profile for the database, @profile_name must be specified.

Java collections maintaining insertion order

Performance. If you want the original insertion order there are the LinkedXXX classes, which maintain an additional linked list in insertion order. Most of the time you don't care, so you use a HashXXX, or you want a natural order, so you use TreeXXX. In either of those cases why should you pay the extra cost of the linked list?

jQuery's .click - pass parameters to user function

For thoroughness, I came across another solution which was part of the functionality introduced in version 1.4.3 of the jQuery click event handler.

It allows you to pass a data map to the event object that automatically gets fed back to the event handler function by jQuery as the first parameter. The data map would be handed to the .click() function as the first parameter, followed by the event handler function.

Here's some code to illustrate what I mean:

// say your selector and click handler looks something like this...
$("some selector").click({param1: "Hello", param2: "World"}, cool_function);

// in your function, just grab the event object and go crazy...
function cool_function(event){
    alert(event.data.param1);
    alert(event.data.param2);
}

I know it's late in the game for this question, but the previous answers led me to this solution, so I hope it helps someone sometime!

What's the idiomatic syntax for prepending to a short python list?

If you can go the functional way, the following is pretty clear

new_list = [x] + your_list

Of course you haven't inserted x into your_list, rather you have created a new list with x preprended to it.

Get name of current class?

You can access it by the class' private attributes:

cls_name = self.__class__.__name__

EDIT:

As said by Ned Batcheler, this wouldn't work in the class body, but it would in a method.

Subtract one day from datetime

SELECT DATEDIFF (

    DATEDIFF(DAY, @CreatedDate, -1),
    GETDATE())

Is it possible to add dynamically named properties to JavaScript object?

ES6 for the win!

const b = 'b';
const c = 'c';

const data = {
    a: true,
    [b]: true, // dynamic property
    [`interpolated-${c}`]: true, // dynamic property + interpolation
    [`${b}-${c}`]: true
}

If you log data you get this:

{
  a: true,
  b: true,
  interpolated-c: true,
  b-c: true
}

This makes use of the new Computed Property syntax and Template Literals.

Decoding UTF-8 strings in Python

You need to properly decode the source text. Most likely the source text is in UTF-8 format, not ASCII.

Because you do not provide any context or code for your question it is not possible to give a direct answer.

I suggest you study how unicode and character encoding is done in Python:

http://docs.python.org/2/howto/unicode.html

How to call a function from another controller in angularjs?

Communication between controllers is done though $emit + $on / $broadcast + $on methods.

So in your case you want to call a method of Controller "One" inside Controller "Two", the correct way to do this is:

app.controller('One', ['$scope', '$rootScope'
    function($scope) {
        $rootScope.$on("CallParentMethod", function(){
           $scope.parentmethod();
        });

        $scope.parentmethod = function() {
            // task
        }
    }
]);
app.controller('two', ['$scope', '$rootScope'
    function($scope) {
        $scope.childmethod = function() {
            $rootScope.$emit("CallParentMethod", {});
        }
    }
]);

While $rootScope.$emit is called, you can send any data as second parameter.

How to set default values in Rails?

Generate a migration and use change_column_default, is succinct and reversible:

  end
end

Use Font Awesome icon as CSS content

If you have access to SCSS files from font-awesome, you can use this simple solution:

.a:after {
    // Import mixin from font-awesome/scss/mixins.scss
    @include fa-icon();

    // Use icon variable from font-awesome/scss/variables.scss
    content: $fa-var-exclamation-triangle;
}

What is the instanceof operator in JavaScript?

There's an important facet to instanceof that does not seem to be covered in any of the comments thus far: inheritance. A variable being evaluated by use of instanceof could return true for multiple "types" due to prototypal inheritance.

For example, let's define a type and a subtype:

function Foo(){ //a Foo constructor
    //assign some props
    return this;
}

function SubFoo(){ //a SubFoo constructor
    Foo.call( this ); //inherit static props
    //assign some new props
    return this;
}

SubFoo.prototype = Object.create(Foo.prototype); // Inherit prototype
SubFoo.prototype.constructor = SubFoo;

Now that we have a couple of "classes" lets make some instances, and find out what they're instances of:

var
    foo = new Foo()
,   subfoo = new SubFoo()
;

alert(
    "Q: Is foo an instance of Foo? "
+   "A: " + ( foo instanceof Foo )
); // -> true

alert(
    "Q: Is foo an instance of SubFoo? "
+   "A: " + ( foo instanceof SubFoo )
); // -> false

alert(
    "Q: Is subfoo an instance of Foo? "
+   "A: " + ( subfoo instanceof Foo )
); // -> true

alert(
    "Q: Is subfoo an instance of SubFoo? "
+   "A: " + ( subfoo instanceof SubFoo )
); // -> true

alert(
    "Q: Is subfoo an instance of Object? "
+   "A: " + ( subfoo instanceof Object )
); // -> true

See that last line? All "new" calls to a function return an object that inherits from Object. This holds true even when using object creation shorthand:

alert(
    "Q: Is {} an instance of Object? "
+   "A: " + ( {} instanceof Object )
); // -> true

And what about the "class" definitions themselves? What are they instances of?

alert(
    "Q: Is Foo an instance of Object? "
+   "A:" + ( Foo instanceof Object)
); // -> true

alert(
    "Q: Is Foo an instance of Function? "
+   "A:" + ( Foo instanceof Function)
); // -> true

I feel that understanding that any object can be an instance of MULTIPLE types is important, since you my (incorrectly) assume that you could differentiate between, say and object and a function by use of instanceof. As this last example clearly shows a function is an object.

This is also important if you are using any inheritance patterns and want to confirm the progeny of an object by methods other than duck-typing.

Hope that helps anyone exploring instanceof.

Fastest way to reset every value of std::vector<int> to 0

I had the same question but about rather short vector<bool> (afaik the standard allows to implement it internally differently than just a continuous array of boolean elements). Hence I repeated the slightly modified tests by Fabio Fracassi. The results are as follows (times, in seconds):

            -O0       -O3
         --------  --------
memset     0.666     1.045
fill      19.357     1.066
iterator  67.368     1.043
assign    17.975     0.530
for i     22.610     1.004

So apparently for these sizes, vector<bool>::assign() is faster. The code used for tests:

#include <vector>
#include <cstring>
#include <cstdlib>

#define TEST_METHOD 5
const size_t TEST_ITERATIONS = 34359738;
const size_t TEST_ARRAY_SIZE = 200;

using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char** argv) {

    std::vector<int> v(TEST_ARRAY_SIZE, 0);

    for(size_t i = 0; i < TEST_ITERATIONS; ++i) {
#if TEST_METHOD == 1
        memset(&v[0], false, v.size() * sizeof v[0]);
#elif TEST_METHOD == 2
        std::fill(v.begin(), v.end(), false);
   #elif TEST_METHOD == 3
        for (std::vector<int>::iterator it=v.begin(), end=v.end(); it!=end; ++it) {
            *it = 0;
        }
   #elif TEST_METHOD == 4
      v.assign(v.size(),false);
   #elif TEST_METHOD == 5
      for (size_t i = 0; i < TEST_ARRAY_SIZE; i++) {
          v[i] = false;
      }
#endif
    }

    return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}

I used GCC 7.2.0 compiler on Ubuntu 17.10. The command line for compiling:

g++ -std=c++11 -O0 main.cpp
g++ -std=c++11 -O3 main.cpp

Setting up JUnit with IntelliJ IDEA

  1. Create and setup a "tests" folder
    • In the Project sidebar on the left, right-click your project and do New > Directory. Name it "test" or whatever you like.
    • Right-click the folder and choose "Mark Directory As > Test Source Root".
  2. Adding JUnit library
    • Right-click your project and choose "Open Module Settings" or hit F4. (Alternatively, File > Project Structure, Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S is probably the "right" way to do this)
    • Go to the "Libraries" group, click the little green plus (look up), and choose "From Maven...".
    • Search for "junit" -- you're looking for something like "junit:junit:4.11".
    • Check whichever boxes you want (Sources, JavaDocs) then hit OK.
    • Keep hitting OK until you're back to the code.
  3. Write your first unit test

    • Right-click on your test folder, "New > Java Class", call it whatever, e.g. MyFirstTest.
    • Write a JUnit test -- here's mine:

      import org.junit.Assert;
      import org.junit.Test;

      public class MyFirstTest {
          @Test
          public void firstTest() {
              Assert.assertTrue(true);
          }
      }

  4. Run your tests
    • Right-click on your test folder and choose "Run 'All Tests'". Presto, testo.
    • To run again, you can either hit the green "Play"-style button that appeared in the new section that popped on the bottom of your window, or you can hit the green "Play"-style button in the top bar.

Update multiple tables in SQL Server using INNER JOIN

You can update with a join if you only affect one table like this:

UPDATE table1
SET table1.name = table2.name
FROM table1, table2
WHERE table1.id = table2.id
AND table2.foobar ='stuff'

But you are trying to affect multiple tables with an update statement that joins on multiple tables. That is not possible.

However, updating two tables in one statement is actually possible but will need to create a View using a UNION that contains both the tables you want to update. You can then update the View which will then update the underlying tables.

SQL JOINS

But this is a really hacky parlor trick, use the transaction and multiple updates, it's much more intuitive.

Using `window.location.hash.includes` throws “Object doesn't support property or method 'includes'” in IE11

I had a similar issue with an Angular project. In my polyfills.ts I had to add both:

    import "core-js/es7/array";
    import "core-js/es7/object";

In addition to enabling all the other IE 11 defaults. (See comments in polyfills.ts if using angular)

After adding these imports the error went away and my Object data populated as intended.

Difference between <? super T> and <? extends T> in Java

Example, Order of inheritance is assumed as O > S > T > U > V

Using extends Keyword ,

Correct:

List<? extends T> Object = new List<T>();
List<? extends T> Object = new List<U>();
List<? extends T> Object = new List<V>();

InCorrect:

List<? extends T> Object = new List<S>();
List<? extends T> Object = new List<O>();

super Keyword:

Correct:

List<? super T> Object = new List<T>();
List<? super T> Object = new List<S>();
List<? super T> Object = new List<O>();

InCorrect:

List<? super T> Object = new List<U>();
List<? super T> Object = new List<V>();

Adding object: List Object = new List();

Object.add(new T()); //error

But Why error ? Let's look at the Possibilities of initializations of List Object

List<? extends T> Object = new List<T>();
List<? extends T> Object = new List<U>();
List<? extends T> Object = new List<V>();

If we use Object.add(new T()); then it will be correct only if

List<? extends T> Object = new List<T>();

But there are extra two possibilities

List Object = new List(); List Object = new List(); If we try to add (new T()) to the above two possibilities it will give an error because T is the superior class of U and V . we try to add a T object [which is (new T()) ] to List of type U and V . Higher class object(Base class) cannot be passed to lower class Object(Sub class).

Due to the extra two possibilities , Java gives you error even if you use the correct possilibity as Java don't know what Object you are referring to .So you can't add objects to List Object = new List(); as there are possibilities that are not valid.

Adding object: List Object = new List();

Object.add(new T()); // compiles fine without error
Object.add(new U()); // compiles fine without error
Object.add(new V()); // compiles fine without error

Object.add(new S()); //  error
Object.add(new O()); //  error

But why error occurs in the above two ? we can use Object.add(new T()); only on the below possibilities,

List<? super T> Object = new List<T>();
List<? super T> Object = new List<S>();
List<? super T> Object = new List<O>();

If we Tried to use Object.add(new T()) in List Object = new List(); and List Object = new List(); then it will give error This is because We can't add T object[which is new T()] to the List Object = new List(); because it is an object of type U . We can't add a T object[which is new T()] to U Object because T is a base class and U is a sub class . We can't add base class to subclass and that's why error occurs . This is same for the another case .

How to remove specific value from array using jQuery

To safely remove 2 from the array using vanilla JavaScript:

// Define polyfill for browsers that don't natively support Array.indexOf()
if (!Array.prototype.indexOf) {
  Array.prototype.indexOf = function(searchElement, fromIndex) {
    var k;
    if (this===null) {
      throw new TypeError('"this" is null or not defined');
    }
    var O = Object(this),
      len = O.length >>> 0;
    if (len===0) return -1;
    var n = +fromIndex || 0;
    if (Math.abs(n)===Infinity) n = 0;
    if (n >= len) return -1;
    k = Math.max(n >= 0 ? n : len - Math.abs(n), 0);
    while (k < len) {
      if (k in O && O[k]===searchElement) return k;
      ++k;
    }
    return -1;
  };
}

// Remove first instance of 2 from array
if (y.indexOf(2) > -1) {
  y.splice(y.indexOf(2), 1);
}

/* To remove all instances of 2 from array, change 'if' to 'while':
while (y.indexOf(2) > -1) {
  y.splice(y.indexOf(2), 1);
}
*/

console.log(y);  // Returns [1, 3]

How do I print a datetime in the local timezone?

Think your should look around: datetime.astimezone()

http://docs.python.org/library/datetime.html#datetime.datetime.astimezone

Also see pytz module - it's quite easy to use -- as example:

eastern = timezone('US/Eastern')

http://pytz.sourceforge.net/

Example:

from datetime import datetime
import pytz
from tzlocal import get_localzone # $ pip install tzlocal

utc_dt = datetime(2009, 7, 10, 18, 44, 59, 193982, tzinfo=pytz.utc)
print(utc_dt.astimezone(get_localzone())) # print local time
# -> 2009-07-10 14:44:59.193982-04:00

How To Pass GET Parameters To Laravel From With GET Method ?

An alternative to msturdy's solution is using the request helper method available to you.

This works in exactly the same way, without the need to import the Input namespace use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Input at the top of your controller.

For example:

class SearchController extends BaseController {

    public function search()
    {
        $category = request('category', 'default');
        $term = request('term'); // no default defined

        ...
    }
}

Use async await with Array.map

A solution using modern-async's map():

import { map } from 'modern-async'

...
const result = await map(myArray, async (v) => {
    ...
})

The advantage of using that library is that you can control the concurrency using mapLimit() or mapSeries().

How do I get column names to print in this C# program?

You can access column name specifically like this too if you don't want to loop through all columns:

table.Columns[1].ColumnName

`node-pre-gyp install --fallback-to-build` failed during MeanJS installation on OSX

This seems issue with my node upgrade. How ever I solved it with the following approach.

First uninstall the cli, clear cashe, and reinstall with these commands

npm uninstall -g @angular/cli
npm cache clean
npm install -g @angular/cli

Then install node-pre-gyp

npm install -g node-pre-gyp

Restart your terminal and see if the issue is solved.

Convert YYYYMMDD string date to a datetime value

You should have to use DateTime.TryParseExact.

var newDate = DateTime.ParseExact("20111120",
                                  "yyyyMMdd",
                                   CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);

OR

string str = "20111021";
string[] format = {"yyyyMMdd"};
DateTime date;

if (DateTime.TryParseExact(str,
                           format,
                           System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture,
                           System.Globalization.DateTimeStyles.None,
                           out date))
{
     //valid
}

IOException: The process cannot access the file 'file path' because it is being used by another process

I had this problem and it was solved by following the code below

var _path=MyFile.FileName;
using (var stream = new FileStream
    (_path, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite))
  {
    // Your Code! ;
  }

HashMap and int as key

Please use HashMap<Integer, myObject> myMap = new HashMap<Integer, myObject>();

Move to next item using Java 8 foreach loop in stream

Another solution: go through a filter with your inverted conditions : Example :

if(subscribtion.isOnce() && subscribtion.isCalled()){
                continue;
}

can be replaced with

.filter(s -> !(s.isOnce() && s.isCalled()))

The most straightforward approach seem to be using "return;" though.

Check if a string has white space

With additions to the language it is much easier, plus you can take advantage of early return:

// Use includes method on string
function hasWhiteSpace(s) {
  const whitespaceChars = [' ', '\t', '\n'];
  return whitespaceChars.some(char => s.includes(char));
}

// Use character comparison
function hasWhiteSpace(s) {
  const whitespaceChars = [' ', '\t', '\n'];
  return Array.from(s).some(char => whitespaceChars.includes(char));
}

const withSpace = "Hello World!";
const noSpace = "HelloWorld!";

console.log(hasWhiteSpace(withSpace));
console.log(hasWhiteSpace(noSpace));

console.log(hasWhiteSpace2(withSpace));
console.log(hasWhiteSpace2(noSpace));

I did not run performance benchmark but these should be faster than regex but for small text snippets there won't be that much difference anyway.

Spring Security redirect to previous page after successful login

I want to extend Olcay's nice answer. His approach is good, your login page controller should be like this to put the referrer url into session:

@RequestMapping(value = "/login", method = RequestMethod.GET)
public String loginPage(HttpServletRequest request, Model model) {
    String referrer = request.getHeader("Referer");
    request.getSession().setAttribute("url_prior_login", referrer);
    // some other stuff
    return "login";
}

And you should extend SavedRequestAwareAuthenticationSuccessHandler and override its onAuthenticationSuccess(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, Authentication authentication) method. Something like this:

public class MyCustomLoginSuccessHandler extends SavedRequestAwareAuthenticationSuccessHandler {
    public MyCustomLoginSuccessHandler(String defaultTargetUrl) {
        setDefaultTargetUrl(defaultTargetUrl);
    }

    @Override
    public void onAuthenticationSuccess(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response, Authentication authentication) throws ServletException, IOException {
        HttpSession session = request.getSession();
        if (session != null) {
            String redirectUrl = (String) session.getAttribute("url_prior_login");
            if (redirectUrl != null) {
                // we do not forget to clean this attribute from session
                session.removeAttribute("url_prior_login");
                // then we redirect
                getRedirectStrategy().sendRedirect(request, response, redirectUrl);
            } else {
                super.onAuthenticationSuccess(request, response, authentication);
            }
        } else {
            super.onAuthenticationSuccess(request, response, authentication);
        }
    }
}

Then, in your spring configuration, you should define this custom class as a bean and use it on your security configuration. If you are using annotation config, it should look like this (the class you extend from WebSecurityConfigurerAdapter):

@Bean
public AuthenticationSuccessHandler successHandler() {
    return new MyCustomLoginSuccessHandler("/yourdefaultsuccessurl");
}

In configure method:

@Override
protected void configure(HttpSecurity http) throws Exception {
    http
            // bla bla
            .formLogin()
                .loginPage("/login")
                .usernameParameter("username")
                .passwordParameter("password")
                .successHandler(successHandler())
                .permitAll()
            // etc etc
    ;
}

How to attach a file using mail command on Linux?

There are a lot of answers here using mutt or mailx or people saying mail doesn't support "-a"

First, Ubuntu 14.0.4 mail from mailutils supports this:

mail -A filename -s "subject" [email protected]

Second, I found that by using the "man mail" command and searching for "attach"

What is a file with extension .a?

.a files are static libraries typically generated by the archive tool. You usually include the header files associated with that static library and then link to the library when you are compiling.

Proper way to get page content

I used this:

<?php echo get_post_field('post_content', $post->ID); ?>

and this even more concise:

<?= get_post_field('post_content', $post->ID) ?>

How to set the "Content-Type ... charset" in the request header using a HTML link

This is not possible from HTML on. The closest what you can get is the accept-charset attribute of the <form>. Only MSIE browser adheres that, but even then it is doing it wrong (e.g. CP1252 is actually been used when it says that it has sent ISO-8859-1). Other browsers are fully ignoring it and they are using the charset as specified in the Content-Type header of the response. Setting the character encoding right is basically fully the responsiblity of the server side. The client side should just send it back in the same charset as the server has sent the response in.

To the point, you should really configure the character encoding stuff entirely from the server side on. To overcome the inability to edit URIEncoding attribute, someone here on SO wrote a (complex) filter: Detect the URI encoding automatically in Tomcat. You may find it useful as well (note: I haven't tested it).

Update: Noted should be that the meta tag as given in your question is ignored when the content is been transferred over HTTP. Instead, the HTTP response Content-Type header will be used to determine the content type and character encoding. You can determine the HTTP header with for example Firebug, in the Net panel.

Conditional operator in Python?

From Python 2.5 onwards you can do:

value = b if a > 10 else c

Previously you would have to do something like the following, although the semantics isn't identical as the short circuiting effect is lost:

value = [c, b][a > 10]

There's also another hack using 'and ... or' but it's best to not use it as it has an undesirable behaviour in some situations that can lead to a hard to find bug. I won't even write the hack here as I think it's best not to use it, but you can read about it on Wikipedia if you want.

'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

for me I was still getting

'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

even after setting the path in environment variables...... restarting Android Studio solved the problem.

What's the difference between .NET Core, .NET Framework, and Xamarin?

.NET Core is the current version of .NET that you should be using right now (more features , fixed bugs , etc.)

Xamarin is a platform that provides solutions for cross platform mobile problems coded in C# , so that you don't need to use Swift separately for IOS and the same goes for Android.

Install .ipa to iPad with or without iTunes

You can install your iOS app without iTunes, App store, or third party sites.

When you build the archive in xcode you can select for adhoc distribution. xcode will bring you through a dialogue where you enter the URL location where your app will be along with the urls for a 57x57 pixel png and a 512x512 pixel png. It will create a bundle with your ipa and manifest.plist

Upload your ipa and the two png files whereever you plan to host them. It has to have an SSL certificate and be served over https. You may want to upload your manifest.plist there as well, but technically I'm pretty sure you can have it somewhere else.

Next, somewhere, in a text, or a webpage or email, or whereever share your link as:

<a href="itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=https://URL/path/manifest.plist">Download anchor text</a>

As I understand, if this is a dev app, only devices that have been added to your device profile in the app store will be able to install the app.

Creating pdf files at runtime in c#

For this i looked into running LaTeX apps to generate a pdf. Although this option is likely to be far more complicated and heavy duty than the ones listed here.

SQL Server : trigger how to read value for Insert, Update, Delete

There is no updated dynamic table. There is just inserted and deleted. On an UPDATE command, the old data is stored in the deleted dynamic table, and the new values are stored in the inserted dynamic table.

Think of an UPDATE as a DELETE/INSERT combination.

Android check internet connection

All official methods only tells whether a device is open for network or not,
If your device is connected to Wifi but Wifi is not connected to internet then these method will fail (Which happen many time), No inbuilt network detection method will tell about this scenario, so created Async Callback class which will return in onConnectionSuccess and onConnectionFail

new CheckNetworkConnection(this, new CheckNetworkConnection.OnConnectionCallback() {

    @Override
    public void onConnectionSuccess() {
        Toast.makeText(context, "onSuccess()", toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
    }

    @Override
    public void onConnectionFail(String msg) {
        Toast.makeText(context, "onFail()", toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
    }
}).execute();

Swift extract regex matches

Even if the matchesInString() method takes a String as the first argument, it works internally with NSString, and the range parameter must be given using the NSString length and not as the Swift string length. Otherwise it will fail for "extended grapheme clusters" such as "flags".

As of Swift 4 (Xcode 9), the Swift standard library provides functions to convert between Range<String.Index> and NSRange.

func matches(for regex: String, in text: String) -> [String] {

    do {
        let regex = try NSRegularExpression(pattern: regex)
        let results = regex.matches(in: text,
                                    range: NSRange(text.startIndex..., in: text))
        return results.map {
            String(text[Range($0.range, in: text)!])
        }
    } catch let error {
        print("invalid regex: \(error.localizedDescription)")
        return []
    }
}

Example:

let string = "€4€9"
let matched = matches(for: "[0-9]", in: string)
print(matched)
// ["4", "9"]

Note: The forced unwrap Range($0.range, in: text)! is safe because the NSRange refers to a substring of the given string text. However, if you want to avoid it then use

        return results.flatMap {
            Range($0.range, in: text).map { String(text[$0]) }
        }

instead.

(Older answer for Swift 3 and earlier:)

So you should convert the given Swift string to an NSString and then extract the ranges. The result will be converted to a Swift string array automatically.

(The code for Swift 1.2 can be found in the edit history.)

Swift 2 (Xcode 7.3.1) :

func matchesForRegexInText(regex: String, text: String) -> [String] {

    do {
        let regex = try NSRegularExpression(pattern: regex, options: [])
        let nsString = text as NSString
        let results = regex.matchesInString(text,
                                            options: [], range: NSMakeRange(0, nsString.length))
        return results.map { nsString.substringWithRange($0.range)}
    } catch let error as NSError {
        print("invalid regex: \(error.localizedDescription)")
        return []
    }
}

Example:

let string = "€4€9"
let matches = matchesForRegexInText("[0-9]", text: string)
print(matches)
// ["4", "9"]

Swift 3 (Xcode 8)

func matches(for regex: String, in text: String) -> [String] {

    do {
        let regex = try NSRegularExpression(pattern: regex)
        let nsString = text as NSString
        let results = regex.matches(in: text, range: NSRange(location: 0, length: nsString.length))
        return results.map { nsString.substring(with: $0.range)}
    } catch let error {
        print("invalid regex: \(error.localizedDescription)")
        return []
    }
}

Example:

let string = "€4€9"
let matched = matches(for: "[0-9]", in: string)
print(matched)
// ["4", "9"]

RandomForestClassfier.fit(): ValueError: could not convert string to float

You can't pass str to your model fit() method. as it mentioned here

The training input samples. Internally, it will be converted to dtype=np.float32 and if a sparse matrix is provided to a sparse csc_matrix.

Try transforming your data to float and give a try to LabelEncoder.

SQL Server - stop or break execution of a SQL script

I would not use RAISERROR- SQL has IF statements that can be used for this purpose. Do your validation and lookups and set local variables, then use the value of the variables in IF statements to make the inserts conditional.

You wouldn't need to check a variable result of every validation test. You could usually do this with only one flag variable to confirm all conditions passed:

declare @valid bit

set @valid = 1

if -- Condition(s)
begin
  print 'Condition(s) failed.'
  set @valid = 0
end

-- Additional validation with similar structure

-- Final check that validation passed
if @valid = 1
begin
  print 'Validation succeeded.'

  -- Do work
end

Even if your validation is more complex, you should only need a few flag variables to include in your final check(s).

Excel: Searching for multiple terms in a cell

Another way

=IF(SUMPRODUCT(--(NOT(ISERR(SEARCH({"Gingrich","Obama","Romney"},C1)))))>0,"1","")

Also, if you keep a list of values in, say A1 to A3, then you can use

=IF(SUMPRODUCT(--(NOT(ISERR(SEARCH($A$1:$A$3,C1)))))>0,"1","")

The wildcards are not necessary at all in the Search() function, since Search() returns the position of the found string.
