Although those are not required by the OP, it's good practice to cover edge cases, especially when it takes little effort.

It's pretty obvious is that the OP means a NUMBER of seconds when he says seconds. Why would peg your function on String?

This line is the problem:

Edit:

Probably more important here - C++ (and C) names have scope. You can have two things named the same but not at the same time. In your particular case your grouthRate variable in the main() hides the function with the same name. So within main() you can only access grouthRate as float. On the other hand, outside of the main() you can only access that name as a function, since that automatic variable is only visible within the scope of main().

Just hope I didn't confuse you further :)

You need to use the Scatter chart type instead of Line. That will allow you to define separate X values for each series.

Also there's another very serious issue with your code. The following routeValue:

replyblogPostmodel = Model

You cannot possibly pass complex objects like this in an ActionLink. So get rid of it and also remove the BlogPostModel parameter from your controller action. You should use the blogPostId parameter to retrieve the model from wherever this model is persisted, or if you prefer from wherever you retrieved the model in the GET action:

Cannot GET / Nodejs Error

Have you checked your folder structure? It seems to me like Express can't find your root directory, which should be a a folder named "site" right under your default directory. Here is how it should look like, according to the tutorial:

For example on my machine, I started getting the same error as you when I renamed my "site" folder as something else. So I would suggest you check that you have the index.html page inside a "site" folder that sits on the same path as your server.js file.

According to RFC 768, the packet size (header-inclusive) for UDP can range from 8 to 65 515 bytes. So the fail-proof size for incoming buffer is 65 507 bytes (~64KB)

Honestly, I would avoid usage of HTML5/CSS3 without a good fallback. There are just too many people using old browsers that don't support all the new fancy stuff. It will take a while before we can drop the fallback, unfortunately :(

I can't believe I said "Both ways requires JavaScript to hide the icon.", because this is not entirely true.

The most common timing to hide placeholder text is on change, as suggested in this answer. For icons however it's okay to hide them on focus which can be done in CSS with the active pseudo-class.

The main use of -f is to force the removal of files that would not be removed using rm by itself (as a special case, it "removes" non-existent files, thus suppressing the error message).

You can also just redirect the error message using

$ rm file.txt 2> /dev/null

(or your operating system's equivalent). You can check the value of $? immediately after calling rm to see if a file was actually removed or not.

Data truncated for column?

In my case it was a table with an ENUM that accepts the days of the week as integers (0 to 6). When inserting the value 0 as an integer I got the error message "Data truncated for column ..." so to fix it I had to cast the integer to a string. So instead of:

$item->day = 0;

I had to do;

$item->day = (string) 0;

It looks silly to cast the zero like that but in my case it was in a Laravel factory, and I had to write it like this:

System like Ubuntu prefers to use auth_socket plugin. It will try to authenticate by comparing your username in DB and process which makes mysql request; it is described in here

The socket plugin checks whether the socket user name (the operating system user name) matches the MySQL user name specified by the client program to the server, and permits the connection only if the names match.

Instead you may want to back with the mysql_native_password, which will require user/password to authenticate.

About the method to achieve that, I recommend this instead.

SQL update query using joins

You can specify additional tables used in determining how and what to update with the "FROM " clause in the UPDATE statement, like this:

The Django documentation for database queries includes a section on copying model instances. Assuming your primary keys are autogenerated, you get the object you want to copy, set the primary key to None, and save the object again:

The answer from @laughing_man is quite accurate. But still, I wanted to give a recommendation which I learned from Kafka expert Stephane Maarek.

Kafka isn’t meant to handle large messages.

Your API should use cloud storage (Ex AWS S3), and just push to Kafka or any message broker a reference of S3. You must find somewhere to persist your data, maybe it’s a network drive, maybe it’s whatever, but it shouldn't be message broker.

Now, if you don’t want to go with the above solution

The message max size is 1MB (the setting in your brokers is called message.max.bytes) Apache Kafka. If you really needed it badly, you could increase that size and make sure to increase the network buffers for your producers and consumers.

And if you really care about splitting your message, make sure each message split has the exact same key so that it gets pushed to the same partition, and your message content should report a “part id” so that your consumer can fully reconstruct the message.

You can also explore compression, if your message is text-based (gzip, snappy, lz4 compression) which may reduce the data size, but not magically.

Again, you have to use an external system to store that data and just push an external reference to Kafka. That is a very common architecture and one you should go with and widely accepted.

Keep that in mind Kafka works best only if the messages are huge in amount but not in size.

Best TCP port number range for internal applications

I can't see why you would care. Other than the "don't use ports below 1024" privilege rule, you should be able to use any port because your clients should be configurable to talk to any IP address and port!

If they're not, then they haven't been done very well. Go back and do them properly :-)

In other words, run the server at IP address X and port Y then configure clients with that information. Then, if you find you must run a different server on X that conflicts with your Y, just re-configure your server and clients to use a new port. This is true whether your clients are code, or people typing URLs into a browser.

I, like you, wouldn't try to get numbers assigned by IANA since that's supposed to be for services so common that many, many environments will use them (think SSH or FTP or TELNET).

Your network is your network and, if you want your servers on port 1234 (or even the TELNET or FTP ports for that matter), that's your business. Case in point, in our mainframe development area, port 23 is used for the 3270 terminal server which is a vastly different beast to telnet. If you want to telnet to the UNIX side of the mainframe, you use port 1023. That's sometimes annoying if you use telnet clients without specifying port 1023 since it hooks you up to a server that knows nothing of the telnet protocol - we have to break out of the telnet client and do it properly:

If you really can't make the client side configurable, pick one in the second range, like 48042, and just use it, declaring that any other software on those boxes (including any added in the future) has to keep out of your way.

You're thinking of a continue statement like Java's or Python's, but VBA has no such native statement, and you can't use VBA's Next like that.

You could achieve something like what you're trying to do using a GoTo statement instead, but really, GoTo should be reserved for cases where the alternatives are contrived and impractical.

filter out multiple criteria using excel vba

I think (from experimenting - MSDN is unhelpful here) that there is no direct way of doing this. Setting Criteria1 to an Array is equivalent to using the tick boxes in the dropdown - as you say it will only filter a list based on items that match one of those in the array.

Interestingly, if you have the literal values "<>A" and "<>B" in the list and filter on these the macro recorder comes up with

Range.AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:="=<>A", Operator:=xlOr, Criteria2:="=<>B"

which works. But if you then have the literal value "<>C" as well and you filter for all three (using tick boxes) while recording a macro, the macro recorder replicates precisely your code which then fails with an error. I guess I'd call that a bug - there are filters you can do using the UI which you can't do with VBA.

Anyway, back to your problem. It is possible to filter values not equal to some criteria, but only up to two values which doesn't work for you:

There are a couple of workarounds possible depending on the exact problem:

  1. Use a "helper column" with a formula in column B and then filter on that - e.g. =ISNUMBER(A2) or =NOT(A2="A", A2="B", A2="C") then filter on TRUE
  2. If you can't add a column, use autofilter with Criteria1:=">-65535" (or a suitable number lower than any you expect) which will filter out non-numeric values - assuming this is what you want
  3. Write a VBA sub to hide rows (not exactly the same as an autofilter but it may suffice depending on your needs).

Adding a column to a data.frame

If I understand the question correctly, you want to detect when the h_no doesn't increase and then increment the class. (I'm going to walk through how I solved this problem, there is a self-contained function at the end.)

Working

We only care about the h_no column for the moment, so we can extract that from the data frame:

We want to detect when h_no doesn't go up, which we can do by working out when the difference between successive elements is either negative or zero. R provides the diff function which gives us the vector of differences:

Once we have that, it is a simple matter to find the ones that are non-positive:

In R, TRUE and FALSE are basically the same as 1 and 0, so if we get the cumulative sum of nonpos, it will increase by 1 in (almost) the appropriate spots. The cumsum function (which is basically the opposite of diff) can do this.

 [1] 0 0 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 2

But, there are two problems: the numbers are one too small; and, we are missing the first element (there should be four in the first class).

The first problem is simply solved: 1+cumsum(nonpos). And the second just requires adding a 1 to the front of the vector, since the first element is always in class 1:

Now, we can attach it back onto our data frame with cbind (by using the class= syntax, we can give the column the class heading):

And data_w_classes now contains the result.

We can compress the lines together and wrap it all up into a function to make it easier to use:

Creating an index on a table variable

It should be understood that from a performance standpoint there are no differences between @temp tables and #temp tables that favor variables. They reside in the same place (tempdb) and are implemented the same way. All the differences appear in additional features. Although there are cases where a temp table can't be used such as in table or scalar functions, for most other cases prior to v2016 (where even filtered indexes can be added to a table variable) you can simply use a #temp table.

The drawback to using named indexes (or constraints) in tempdb is that the names can then clash. Not just theoretically with other procedures but often quite easily with other instances of the procedure itself which would try to put the same index on its copy of the #temp table.

To avoid name clashes, something like this usually works:

You have to access lists a little differently than arrays in Java. See the javadocs for the List interface for more information.

playersList.get(0)

However if you want to find the smallest element in playersList, you shouldn't sort it and then get the first element. This runs very slowly compared to just searching once through the list to find the smallest element.

Normally you can't refer to field aliases in the WHERE clause. (Think of it as the entire SELECT including aliases, is applied after the WHERE clause.)

first off, to be a bit of a henpeck, its best NOT to use just the <background> tag. rather, use the proper, more specific, <background-image> tag.

the only way that i'm aware of to do such a thing is to build the padding into the image by extending the matte. since the empty pixels aren't stripped, you have your padding right there. so if you need a 10px border, create 10px of empty pixels all around your image. this is mui simple in Photoshop, Fireworks, GIMP, &c.

i'd also recommend trying out the PNG8 format instead of the dying GIF... much better.

there may be an alternate solution to your problem if we knew a bit more of how you're using it. :) it LOOKS like you're trying to add an accordion button. this would be best placed in the HTML because then you can target it with JavaScript/PHP; something you cannot do if it's in the background (at least not simply). in such a case, you can style the heck out of the image you currently have in CSS by using the following:

The answer is really simple

res.end() is used to quickly end the response without sending any data.

Java 8 - Difference between Optional.flatMap and Optional.map

They both take a function from the type of the optional to something.

map() applies the function "as is" on the optional you have:

What happens if your function is a function from T -> Optional<U>?
Your result is now an Optional<Optional<U>>!

That's what flatMap() is about: if your function already returns an Optional, flatMap() is a bit smarter and doesn't double wrap it, returning Optional<U>.

It's the composition of two functional idioms: map and flatten.

How can I discard remote changes and mark a file as "resolved"?

git checkout has the --ours option to check out the version of the file that you had locally (as opposed to --theirs, which is the version that you pulled in). You can pass . to git checkout to tell it to check out everything in the tree. Then you need to mark the conflicts as resolved, which you can do with git add, and commit your work once done:

git checkout --ours .  # checkout our local version of all files
git add -u             # mark all conflicted files as merged
git commit             # commit the merge

Note the . in the git checkout command. That's very important, and easy to miss. git checkout has two modes; one in which it switches branches, and one in which it checks files out of the index into the working copy (sometimes pulling them into the index from another revision first). The way it distinguishes is by whether you've passed a filename in; if you haven't passed in a filename, it tries switching branches (though if you don't pass in a branch either, it will just try checking out the current branch again), but it refuses to do so if there are modified files that that would effect. So, if you want a behavior that will overwrite existing files, you need to pass in . or a filename in order to get the second behavior from git checkout.

It's also a good habit to have, when passing in a filename, to offset it with --, such as git checkout --ours -- <filename>. If you don't do this, and the filename happens to match the name of a branch or tag, Git will think that you want to check that revision out, instead of checking that filename out, and so use the first form of the checkout command.

I'll expand a bit on how conflicts and merging work in Git. When you merge in someone else's code (which also happens during a pull; a pull is essentially a fetch followed by a merge), there are few possible situations.

The simplest is that you're on the same revision. In this case, you're "already up to date", and nothing happens.

Another possibility is that their revision is simply a descendent of yours, in which case you will by default have a "fast-forward merge", in which your HEAD is just updated to their commit, with no merging happening (this can be disabled if you really want to record a merge, using --no-ff).

Then you get into the situations in which you actually need to merge two revisions. In this case, there are two possible outcomes. One is that the merge happens cleanly; all of the changes are in different files, or are in the same files but far enough apart that both sets of changes can be applied without problems. By default, when a clean merge happens, it is automatically committed, though you can disable this with --no-commit if you need to edit it beforehand (for instance, if you rename function foo to bar, and someone else adds new code that calls foo, it will merge cleanly, but produce a broken tree, so you may want to clean that up as part of the merge commit in order to avoid having any broken commits).

The final possibility is that there's a real merge, and there are conflicts. In this case, Git will do as much of the merge as it can, and produce files with conflict markers (<<<<<<<, =======, and >>>>>>>) in your working copy. In the index (also known as the "staging area"; the place where files are stored by git add before committing them), you will have 3 versions of each file with conflicts; there is the original version of the file from the ancestor of the two branches you are merging, the version from HEAD (your side of the merge), and the version from the remote branch.

In order to resolve the conflict, you can either edit the file that is in your working copy, removing the conflict markers and fixing the code up so that it works. Or, you can check out the version from one or the other sides of the merge, using git checkout --ours or git checkout --theirs. Once you have put the file into the state you want it, you indicate that you are done merging the file and it is ready to commit using git add, and then you can commit the merge with git commit.

How to create PDFs in an Android app?

A bit late and I have not yet tested it yet myself but another library that is under the BSD license is Android PDF Writer.

Update I have tried the library myself. Works ok with simple pdf generations (it provide methods for adding text, lines, rectangles, bitmaps, fonts). The only problem is that the generated PDF is stored in a String in memory, this may cause memory issues in large documents.

ASP.NET: Session.SessionID changes between requests

There is another, more insidious reason, why this may occur even when the Session object has been initialized as demonstrated by Cladudio.

In the Web.config, if there is an <httpCookies> entry that is set to requireSSL="true" but you are not actually using HTTPS: for a specific request, then the session cookie is not sent (or maybe not returned, I'm not sure which) which means that you end up with a brand new session for each request.

I found this one the hard way, spending several hours going back and forth between several commits in my source control, until I found what specific change had broken my application.

There are two (very big) hurdles to writing your first Angular scripts, if you're currently using 'GET' services.

First, your services must implement the "Access-Control-Allow-Origin" property, otherwise the services will work a treat when called from, say, a web browser, but fail miserably when called from Angular.

So, you'll need to add a few lines to your web.config file:

Seems to me that:

df1 = df[df['col1']==some_value] WILL NOT create a new DataFrame, basically, changes in df1 will be reflected in the parent df. This leads to the warning. Whereas, df1 = df[df['col1]]==some_value].copy() WILL create a new DataFrame, and changes in df1 will not be reflected in df. the copy() method is recommended if you don't want to make changes to your original df.

Why not just use a custom format for the cell you need to quote?

If you set a custom format to the cell column, all values will take on that format.

For numbers....like a zip code....it would be this '#' For string text, it would be this '@'

You save the file as csv format, and it will have all the quotes wrapped around the cell data as needed.

Edit - OP asked for explanation of syntax. Regular expression syntax is a large topic which I can't explain in full here, but I will attempt to explain enough to understand the example.

re="http://([^/]+)/"

This is the regular expression stored in a bash variable, re - i.e. what you want your input string to match, and hopefully extract a substring. Breaking it down:

  • http:// is just a string - the input string must contain this substring for the regular expression to match
  • [] Normally square brackets are used say "match any character within the brackets". So c[ao]t would match both "cat" and "cot". The ^ character within the [] modifies this to say "match any character except those within the square brackets. So in this case [^/] will match any character apart from "/".
  • The square bracket expression will only match one character. Adding a + to the end of it says "match 1 or more of the preceding sub-expression". So [^/]+ matches 1 or more of the set of all characters, excluding "/".
  • Putting () parentheses around a subexpression says that you want to save whatever matched that subexpression for later processing. If the language you are using supports this, it will provide some mechanism to retrieve these submatches. For bash, it is the BASH_REMATCH array.
  • Finally we do an exact match on "/" to make sure we match all the way to end of the fully qualified domain name and the following "/"

Next, we have to test the input string against the regular expression to see if it matches. We can use a bash conditional to do that:

In bash, the [[ ]] specify an extended conditional test, and may contain the =~ bash regular expression operator. In this case we test whether the input string $name matches the regular expression $re. If it does match, then due to the construction of the regular expression, we are guaranteed that we will have a submatch (from the parentheses ()), and we can access it using the BASH_REMATCH array:

  • Element 0 of this array ${BASH_REMATCH[0]} will be the entire string matched by the regular expression, i.e. "http://www.google.com/".
  • Subsequent elements of this array will be subsequent results of submatches. Note you can have multiple submatch () within a regular expression - The BASH_REMATCH elements will correspond to these in order. So in this case ${BASH_REMATCH[1]} will contain "www.google.com", which I think is the string you want.

Note that the contents of the BASH_REMATCH array only apply to the last time the regular expression =~ operator was used. So if you go on to do more regular expression matches, you must save the contents you need from this array each time.

This may seem like a lengthy description, but I have really glossed over several of the intricacies of regular expressions. They can be quite powerful, and I believe with decent performance, but the regular expression syntax is complex. Also regular expression implementations vary, so different languages will support different features and may have subtle differences in syntax. In particular escaping of characters within a regular expression can be a thorny issue, especially when those characters would have an otherwise different meaning in the given language.


Note that instead of setting the $re variable on a separate line and referring to this variable in the condition, you can put the regular expression directly into the condition. However in bash 3.2, the rules were changed regarding whether quotes around such literal regular expressions are required or not. Putting the regular expression in a separate variable is a straightforward way around this, so that the condition works as expected in all bash versions that support the =~ match operator.

Since None of the above solutions worked for my usecase, here I provide a solution using None (pun!) which can be adapted to a wide variety of scenarios.

Here is a sample piece of code that produces cluttered ticks on both X and Y axes.

Why is volatile needed in C?

Volatile tells the compiler not to optimize anything that has to do with the volatile variable.

There are at least three common reasons to use it, all involving situations where the value of the variable can change without action from the visible code: When you interface with hardware that changes the value itself; when there's another thread running that also uses the variable; or when there's a signal handler that might change the value of the variable.

Let's say you have a little piece of hardware that is mapped into RAM somewhere and that has two addresses: a command port and a data port:

Looks easy, but it can fail because the compiler is free to change the order in which data and commands are written. This would cause our little gadget to issue commands with the previous data-value. Also take a look at the wait while busy loop. That one will be optimized out. The compiler will try to be clever, read the value of isbusy just once and then go into an infinite loop. That's not what you want.

The way to get around this is to declare the pointer gadget as volatile. This way the compiler is forced to do what you wrote. It can't remove the memory assignments, it can't cache variables in registers and it can't change the order of assignments either:

Note that file will not fail if the path does not exist as the state did not change.

If touch (new in 1.4), an empty file will be created if the path does not exist, while an existing file or directory will receive updated file access and modification times (similar to the way touch works from the command line).

String Concatenation using '+' operator

It doesn't - the C# compiler does :)

So this code:

The benefit of the C# compiler noticing that there are multiple string concatenations here is that you don't end up creating an intermediate string of x + y which then needs to be copied again as part of the concatenation of (x + y) and z. Instead, we get it all done in one go.

EDIT: Note that the compiler can't do anything if you concatenate in a loop. For example, this code:

foreach (string y in strings)

just ends up as equivalent to:

foreach (string y in strings)

    x = string.Concat(x, y);
}

There is a big difference if you are using jQuery. jQuery is aware of more events on inputs than it does on buttons. On buttons, jQuery is only aware of 'click' events. On inputs, jQuery is aware of 'click', 'focus', and 'blur' events.

You could always bind events to your buttons as needed, but just be aware that the events that jQuery automatically is aware of are different. For example, if you created a function that was executed whenever there was a 'focusin' event on your page, an input would trigger the function but a button would not.

I can imagine if your having multiple subplots within the figure, you would want to include the number of y and x subplots as keyword parameters (defaulting to 1 each) to the routine provided.
