Not equal to != and !== in PHP

== and != do not take into account the data type of the variables you compare. So these would all return true:

'0'   == 0
false == 0
NULL  == false

=== and !== do take into account the data type. That means comparing a string to a boolean will never be true because they're of different types for example. These will all return false:

Drop all tables command

I don't think you can drop all tables in one hit but you can do the following to get the commands:

select 'drop table ' || name || ';' from sqlite_master
    where type = 'table';

The output of this is a script that will drop the tables for you. For indexes, just replace table with index.

You can use other clauses in the where section to limit which tables or indexes are selected (such as "and name glob 'pax_*'" for those starting with "pax_").

You could combine the creation of this script with the running of it in a simple bash (or cmd.exe) script so there's only one command to run.

If you don't care about any of the information in the DB, I think you can just delete the file it's stored in off the hard disk - that's probably faster. I've never tested this but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

MySQL is notoriously cranky, especially with regards to foreign keys and triggers. I am right now in the process of fine tuning one such database, and ran into this problem. It is not self evident or intuitive, so here it goes:

Besides checking if the two columns you want to reference in the relationship have the same data type, you must also make sure the column on the table you are referencing is an index. If you are using the MySQL Workbench, select the tab "Indexes" right next to "Columns" and make sure the column referenced by the foreign key is an index. If not, create one, name it something meaningful, and give it the type "INDEX".

A good practice is to clean up the tables involved in relationships to make sure previous attempts did not create indexes you don't want or need.

I hope it helped, some MySQL errors are maddening to track.

You can always get the underlaying DOM element from the jQuery result set.

But when I used .each() function and provided an anonymous function that will be called on each element in the set, this keyword actually refers to the DOM element.

jQuery used to ONLY have the callback functions for success and error and complete.

Why can't I declare static methods in an interface?

There are a few issues at play here. The first is the issue of declaring a static method without defining it. This is the difference between

public interface Foo {
  public static int bar();
}

and

public interface Foo {
  public static int bar() {
    ...
  }
}

The first is impossible for the reasons that Espo mentions: you don't know which implementing class is the correct definition.

Java could allow the latter; and in fact, starting in Java 8, it does!

Where does Hive store files in HDFS?

Another way to check where a specific table is stored would be execute this query on the hive interactive interface:

show create table table_name;

where table_name is the name of the subject table.

An example for the above query on 'customers' table would be something like this:

How to make bootstrap column height to 100% row height?

@Alan's answer will do what you're looking for, but this solution fails when you use the responsive capabilities of Bootstrap. In your case, you're using the xs sizes so you won't notice, but if you used anything else (e.g. col-sm, col-md, etc), you'd understand.

Use a correlated sub-query. Very simple, here you go:

The code might not be exactly correct, but I'm sure that the idea is.

The GROUP BY is in case a date appears more than once, you would only want to see it once in the result set.

Type safety: Unchecked cast

If you really want to get rid of the warnings, one thing you can do is create a class that extends from the generic class.

For example, if you're trying to use

private Map<String, String> someMap = new HashMap<String, String>();

You can create a new class like such

public class StringMap extends HashMap<String, String>()
{
    // Override constructors
}

Then when you use

someMap = (StringMap) getApplicationContext().getBean("someMap");

The compiler DOES know what the (no longer generic) types are, and there will be no warning. This may not always be the perfect solution, some might argue this kind of defeats the purpose of generic classes, but you're still re-using all of the same code from the generic class, you're just declaring at compile time what type you want to use.

Laravel Eloquent Join vs Inner Join?

I'm sure there are other ways to accomplish this, but one solution would be to use join through the Query Builder.

If you have tables set up something like this:

votes, comments and status_updates (3 tables)

In your User model:

Run the same join for the comments and status_updates tables. If you would like votes, comments, and status_updates to be in one chronological list, you can merge the resulting three collections into one and then sort the merged collection.

To get votes, comments, and status updates in one query, you could build up each query and then union the results. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work if we use the Eloquent hasMany relationship (see comments for this question for a discussion of that problem) so we have to modify to queries to use where instead:

At this point, though, our query is getting a bit hairy, so a polymorphic relationship with and an extra table (like DefiniteIntegral suggests below) might be a better idea.

Function for C++ struct

Yes, a struct is identical to a class except for the default access level (member-wise and inheritance-wise). (and the extra meaning class carries when used with a template)

Every functionality supported by a class is consequently supported by a struct. You'd use methods the same as you'd use them for a class.

The class declaration goes into the header file. It is important that you add the #ifndef include guards, or if you are on a MS platform you also can use #pragma once. Also I have omitted the private, by default C++ class members are private.

I don't think the jar tool supports this natively, but you can just unzip a JAR file with "unzip" and specify the output directory with that with the "-d" option, so something like:

& is bitwise. && is logical.

& evaluates both sides of the operation.
&& evaluates the left side of the operation, if it's true, it continues and evaluates the right side.

  1. Create an instance of Random class somewhere. Note that it's pretty important not to create a new instance each time you need a random number. You should reuse the old instance to achieve uniformity in the generated numbers. You can have a static field somewhere (be careful about thread safety issues):

It parses meta OG data to JSON, so you can just use the data directly. If you prefer, you can read/write them directly using JQuery, of course. For example:

To my mind the case for a PT (as @Nathan Fisher) is a 'no brainer', but I would add a column to facilitate ordering by rank (up or down):

OPS is entered as VALUES (Sum of) twice so I have renamed the column labels to make clearer which is which. The PT is in a different sheet from the data but could be in the same sheet.

Rank is set with a right click on a data point selected in that column and Show Values As... and Rank Largest to Smallest (there are other options) with the Base field as Player and the filter is a Value Filters, Top 10... one:

Once in a PT the power of that feature can very easily be applied to view the data in many other ways, with no change of formula (there isn't one!).

In the case of a tie for the last position included in the filter both results are included (Top 5 would show six or more results). A tie for top rank between just two players would show as 1 1 3 4 5 for Top 5.

CLARIFICATION Per the API documentation (1.10.15), the API can be accessed three ways:

  1. The modern definition of DataTables (upper camel case):

what is the use of annotations @Id and @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)? Why the generationtype is identity?

Simply, @Id: This annotation specifies the primary key of the entity. 

@GeneratedValue: This annotation is used to specify the primary key generation strategy to use. i.e Instructs database to generate a value for this field automatically. If the strategy is not specified by default AUTO will be used. 

GenerationType enum defines four strategies: 
1. Generation Type . TABLE, 
2. Generation Type. SEQUENCE,
3. Generation Type. IDENTITY   
4. Generation Type. AUTO

GenerationType.SEQUENCE

With this strategy, underlying persistence provider must use a database sequence to get the next unique primary key for the entities. 

GenerationType.TABLE

With this strategy, underlying persistence provider must use a database table to generate/keep the next unique primary key for the entities. 

GenerationType.IDENTITY
This GenerationType indicates that the persistence provider must assign primary keys for the entity using a database identity column. IDENTITY column is typically used in SQL Server. This special type column is populated internally by the table itself without using a separate sequence. If underlying database doesn't support IDENTITY column or some similar variant then the persistence provider can choose an alternative appropriate strategy. In this examples we are using H2 database which doesn't support IDENTITY column.

GenerationType.AUTO
This GenerationType indicates that the persistence provider should automatically pick an appropriate strategy for the particular database. This is the default GenerationType, i.e. if we just use @GeneratedValue annotation then this value of GenerationType will be used.

We put the default values in the database through migrations (by specifying the :default option on each column definition) and let Active Record use these values to set the default for each attribute.

IMHO, this approach is aligned with the principles of AR : convention over configuration, DRY, the table definition drives the model, not the other way around.

Note that the defaults are still in the application (Ruby) code, though not in the model but in the migration(s).

Javascript foreach loop on associative array object

The .length property only tracks properties with numeric indexes (keys). You're using strings for keys.

You can do this:

The callback function passed to .forEach() is called with each key and the key's index in the array returned by Object.keys(). (Just saw that this was noted in a comment below.)

Adding two Java 8 streams, or an extra element to a stream

At the end of the day I'm not interested in combining streams, but in obtaining the combined result of processing each element of all those streams.

While combining streams might prove to be cumbersome (thus this thread), combining their processing results is fairly easy.

The key to solve is to create your own collector and ensure that the supplier function for the new collector returns the same collection every time (not a new one), the code below illustrates this approach.

Add (insert) a column between two columns in a data.frame

When you can not assume that column b comes before c you can use match to find the column number of both, min to get the lower column number and seq_len to get a sequence until this column. Then you can use this index first as a positive subset, than place the new column d and then use the sequence again as a negative subset.

Running Tensorflow in Jupyter Notebook

I have found a fairly simple way to do this.

Initially, through your Anaconda Prompt, you can follow the steps in this official Tensorflow site - here. You have to follow the steps as is, no deviation.

Later, you open the Anaconda Navigator. In Anaconda Navigator, go to Applications On --- section. Select the drop down list, after following above steps you must see an entry - tensorflow into it. Select tensorflow and let the environment load.

Then, select Jupyter Notebook in this new context, and install it, let the installation get over.

After that you can run the Jupyter notebook like the regular notebook in tensorflow environment.

Steps to upload an iPhone application to the AppStore

This arstechnica article describes the basic steps:

Start by visiting the program portal and make sure that your developer certificate is up to date. It expires every six months and, if you haven't requested that a new one be issued, you cannot submit software to App Store. For most people experiencing the "pink upload of doom," though, their certificates are already valid. What next?

Open your Xcode project and check that you've set the active SDK to one of the device choices, like Device - 2.2. Accidentally leaving the build settings to Simulator can be a big reason for the pink rejection. And that happens more often than many developers would care to admit.

Next, make sure that you've chosen a build configuration that uses your distribution (not your developer) certificate. Check this by double-clicking on your target in the Groups & Files column on the left of the project window. The Target Info window will open. Click the Build tab and review your Code Signing Identity. It should be iPhone Distribution: followed by your name or company name.

You may also want to confirm your application identifier in the Properties tab. Most likely, you'll have set the identifier properly when debugging with your developer certificate, but it never hurts to check.

The top-left of your project window also confirms your settings and configuration. It should read something like "Device - 2.2 | Distribution". This shows you the active SDK and configuration.

If your settings are correct but you still aren't getting that upload finished properly, clean your builds. Choose Build > Clean (Command-Shift-K) and click Clean. Alternatively, you can manually trash the build folder in your Project from Finder. Once you've cleaned, build again fresh.

If this does not produce an app that when zipped properly loads to iTunes Connect, quit and relaunch Xcode. I'm not kidding. This one simple trick solves more signing problems and "pink rejections of doom" than any other solution already mentioned.

Create a hexadecimal colour based on a string with JavaScript

I find that generating random colors tends to create colors that do not have enough contrast for my taste. The easiest way I have found to get around that is to pre-populate a list of very different colors. For every new string, assign the next color in the list:

While this has a limit to only 64 colors, I find most humans can't really tell the difference after that anyway. I suppose you could always add more colors.

While this code uses hard-coded colors, you are at least guaranteed to know during development exactly how much contrast you will see between colors in production.

Due to angular behaviour there is no direct method for normal post behaviour at PHP server, so you have to manage it in json objects.

Using Predicate in Swift

You can use filters available in swift to filter content from an array instead of using a predicate like in Objective-C.

An example in Swift 4.0 is as follows:

Initializing a member array in constructor initializer

C++98 doesn't provide a direct syntax for anything but zeroing (or for non-POD elements, value-initializing) the array. For that you just write C(): arr() {}.

A C++98 workaround for your current code is to wrap the array in a struct and initialize it from a static constant of that type. The data has to reside somewhere anyway. Off the cuff it can look like this:

Alas, I don't really like any of those solutions. Either they require an extra step to get the result ([0] = '', .strip!) or they aren't very semantic/clear about what's happening ([1..-1]: "Um, a range from 1 to negative 1? Yearg?"), or they are slow or lengthy to write out (.gsub, .length).

What we are attempting is a 'shift' (in Array parlance), but returning the remaining characters, rather than what was shifted off. Let's use our Ruby to make this possible with strings! We can use the speedy bracket operation, but give it a good name, and take an arg to specify how much we want to chomp off the front:

But there is more we can do with that speedy-but-unwieldy bracket operation. While we are at it, for completeness, let's write a #shift and #first for String (why should Array have all the fun??), taking an arg to specify how many characters we want to remove from the beginning:

Creating a comma separated list from IList<string> or IEnumerable<string>

Arriving a little late to this discussion but this is my contribution fwiw. I have an IList<Guid> OrderIds to be converted to a CSV string but following is generic and works unmodified with other types:

Short and sweet, uses StringBuilder for constructing new string, shrinks StringBuilder length by one to remove last comma and returns CSV string.

I've updated this to use multiple Append()'s to add string + comma. From James' feedback I used Reflector to have a look at StringBuilder.AppendFormat(). Turns out AppendFormat() uses a StringBuilder to construct the format string which makes it less efficient in this context than just using multiple Appends()'s.

  • EXACTLY match_parent is EXACTLY + size of the parent
  • AT_MOST wrap_content results in an AT_MOST MeasureSpec

Steps :

1.Go to the corresponding directory where the header file that is missing is located. (In my case,../include/unicode/coll.h was missing) and copy the directory location where the header file is located.(Copy till the include directory.)

2.Right click on your project in the Solution Explorer->Properties->Configuration Properties->VC++ Directories->Include Directories. Paste the copied path here.

  • Using moment decouples the date comparison logic, and makes it easy to work with different formats. In my table, I used yyyy-mm-dd, but you could use mm/dd/yyyy as well. Be sure to reference moment's docs when parsing other formats, as you may need to modify what method you use.

which is exactly what you suggested.

There is no need to overload an iterator in order to erase first element of std::vector.


P.S. Vector (dynamic array) is probably a wrong choice of data structure if you intend to erase from the front.

Installing Git on Eclipse

I made an installation guide for Egit on Eclipse so I thought I would share it.

  1. INSTALL EGIT plugin in eclispe which is pretty easy. If EGit is missing in your Eclipse installation, you can install it via the Eclipse Update Manager via: Help ? Install new Software. EGit can be installed from the following URL: http://download.eclipse.org/egit/updates Under Eclipse Git Team Provider, tick ONLY "Eclipse EGit" and then download the plugin.

  2. CONNECT TO YOUR LOCAL REPOSITORY. I right clicked on the project, selected "team > share project" and then ticked "use or create repository"

  3. GIT IGNORE. Mark the "bin" folder as "ignored by Git", either by right-clicking on it and selecting Team > Ignore or by creating a .gitignore file. My file was generated for me, I just had to make it visible. Here's how in eclipse: In your package explorer, pull down the menu and select "Filters ...". You can adjust what types of files are shown/hidden there.

  4. IDENTIFY YOURSELF. Click Preferences > Team > Git > Configuration and make sure your name & email are there so we know which user committed/pushed what.

Efficiency of Java "Double Brace Initialization"?

Efficiency aside, I rarely find myself wishing for declarative collection creation outside of unit tests. I do believe that the double brace syntax is very readable.

Another way to achieve the declarative construction of lists specifically is to use Arrays.asList(T ...) like so:

The limitation of this approach is of course that you cannot control the specific type of list to be generated.

This is a handshake failure. The other side closes the connection without sending any data ("read 0 bytes"). It might be, that the other side does not speak SSL at all. But I've seen similar errors on broken SSL implementation, which do not understand newer SSL version. Try if you get a SSL connection by adding -ssl3 to the command line of s_client.

Typescript import/as vs import/require?

These are mostly equivalent, but import * has some restrictions that import ... = require doesn't.

import * as creates an identifier that is a module object, emphasis on object. According to the ES6 spec, this object is never callable or newable - it only has properties. If you're trying to import a function or class, you should use

or (depending on your module loader)

Attempting to use import * as express and then invoking express() is always illegal according to the ES6 spec. In some runtime+transpilation environments this might happen to work anyway, but it might break at any point in the future without warning, which will make you sad.

The reason you were getting null in your controller is because you didn't respect the naming convention for your input fields that the default model binder expects to successfully bind to a list. I invite you to read the following article.

How to update a pull request from forked repo?

If using GitHub on Windows:

  1. Make changes locally.
  2. Open GitHub, switch to local repositories, double click repository.
  3. Switch the branch(near top of window) to the branch that you created the pull request from(i.e. the branch on your fork side of the compare)
  4. Should see option to enter commit comment on right and commit changes to your local repo.
  5. Click sync on top, which among other things, pushes your commit from local to your remote fork on GitHub.
  6. The pull request will be updated automatically with the additional commits. This is because the pulled request represents a diff with your fork's branch. If you go to the pull request page(the one where you and others can comment on your pull request) then the Commits tab should have your additional commit(s).

This is why, before you start making changes of your own, that you should create a branch for each set of changes you plan to put into a pull request. That way, once you make the pull request, you can then make another branch and continue work on some other task/feature/bugfix without affecting the previous pull request.

Using malloc for allocation of multi-dimensional arrays with different row lengths

malloc does not allocate on specific boundaries, so it must be assumed that it allocates on a byte boundary.

The returned pointer can then not be used if converted to any other type, since accessing that pointer will probably produce a memory access violation by the CPU, and the application will be immediately shut down.

Sorting table rows according to table header column using javascript or jquery

I've been working on a function to work within a library for a client, and have been having a lot of trouble keeping the UI responsive during the sorts (even with only a few hundred results).

The function has to resort the entire table each AJAX pagination, as new data may require injection further up. This is what I had so far:

  • jQuery library required.
  • table is the ID of the table being sorted.
  • The table attributes sort-attribute, sort-direction and the column attribute column are all pre-set.

Using some of the details above I managed to improve performance a bit.

Conditional Replace Pandas

The reason your original dataframe does not update is because chained indexing may cause you to modify a copy rather than a view of your dataframe. The docs give this advice:

When setting values in a pandas object, care must be taken to avoid what is called chained indexing.

You have a few alternatives:-

loc + Boolean indexing

loc may be used for setting values and supports Boolean masks:

df.loc[df['my_channel'] > 20000, 'my_channel'] = 0

mask + Boolean indexing

You can assign to your series:

df['my_channel'] = df['my_channel'].mask(df['my_channel'] > 20000, 0)

Or you can update your series in place:

df['my_channel'].mask(df['my_channel'] > 20000, 0, inplace=True)

np.where + Boolean indexing

You can use NumPy by assigning your original series when your condition is not satisfied; however, the first two solutions are cleaner since they explicitly change only specified values.

Array.Add vs +=

When using the $array.Add()-method, you're trying to add the element into the existing array. An array is a collection of fixed size, so you will receive an error because it can't be extended.

$array += $element creates a new array with the same elements as old one + the new item, and this new larger array replaces the old one in the $array-variable

You can use the += operator to add an element to an array. When you use it, Windows PowerShell actually creates a new array with the values of the original array and the added value. For example, to add an element with a value of 200 to the array in the $a variable, type:

    $a += 200

+= is an expensive operation, so when you need to add many items you should try to add them in as few operations as possible, ex:

$arr += (4..5) #Combine with another array in a single write-operation

If that's not possible, consider using a more efficient collection like List or ArrayList (see the other answer).

Custom domain for GitHub project pages

I just discovered, after a bit of frustration, that if you're using PairNIC, all you have to do is enable the "Web Forwarding" setting under "Custom DNS" and supply the username.github.io/project address and it will automatically set up both the apex and subdomain records for you. It appears to do exactly what's suggested in the accepted answer. However, it won't let you do the exact same thing by manually adding records. Very strange. Anyway, it took me a while to figure that out, so I thought I'd share to save everyone else the trouble.

Laravel Eloquent update just if changes have been made

You're already doing it!

save() will check if something in the model has changed. If it hasn't it won't run a db query.

Here's the relevant part of code in Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Model@performUpdate:

The import org.apache.commons cannot be resolved in eclipse juno

The mentioned package/classes are not present in the compiletime classpath. Basically, Java has no idea what you're talking about when you say to import this and that. It can't find them in the classpath.

It's part of Apache Commons FileUpload. Just download the JAR and drop it in /WEB-INF/lib folder of the webapp project and this error should disappear. Don't forget to do the same for Apache Commons IO, that's where FileUpload depends on, otherwise you will get the same problem during runtime.


Unrelated to the concrete problem, I see that you're using Tomcat 7, which is a Servlet 3.0 compatible container. Do you know that you can just use the new request.getPart() method to obtain the uploaded file without the need for the whole Commons FileUpload stuff? Just add @MultipartConfig annotation to the servlet class so that you can use it. See also How to upload files to server using JSP/Servlet?

PHP error: "The zip extension and unzip command are both missing, skipping."

For Debian Jessie (which is the current default for the PHP image on Docker Hub):

apt-get install --yes zip unzip php-pclzip

You can omit the --yes, but it's useful when you're RUN-ing it in a Dockerfile.

CORS with spring-boot and angularjs not working

To build on other answers above, in case you have a Spring boot REST service application (not Spring MVC) with Spring security, then enabling CORS via Spring security is enough (if you use Spring MVC then using a WebMvcConfigurer bean as mentioned by Yogen could be the way to go as Spring security will delegate to the CORS definition mentioned therein)

What are -moz- and -webkit-?

These are the vendor-prefixed properties offered by the relevant rendering engines (-webkit for Chrome, Safari; -moz for Firefox, -o for Opera, -ms for Internet Explorer). Typically they're used to implement new, or proprietary CSS features, prior to final clarification/definition by the W3.

This allows properties to be set specific to each individual browser/rendering engine in order for inconsistencies between implementations to be safely accounted for. The prefixes will, over time, be removed (at least in theory) as the unprefixed, the final version, of the property is implemented in that browser.

To that end it's usually considered good practice to specify the vendor-prefixed version first and then the non-prefixed version, in order that the non-prefixed property will override the vendor-prefixed property-settings once it's implemented; for example:

The git format-patch command creates a patch from some_other_repo's commit specified by its SHA (-1 for one single commit alone). This patch is piped to git am, which applies the patch locally (-3 means trying the three-way merge if the patch fails to apply cleanly). Hope that explains.

The token decoding is reversed version of the code above.To verify the signature you will need to the same and compare signature part with calculated signature.

I've been to this post about 10 times now and I just wanted to leave my two cents here. You can just unmount it conditionally.

All you have to do is remove it from the DOM in order to unmount it.

As long as renderMyComponent = true, the component will render. If you set renderMyComponent = false, it will unmount from the DOM.

Command to change the default home directory of a user

I found an issue with someone using PDO and the answer was to use this for the PDO connection string:

What about this alternative idea :

  • two have two executors :
    • one for :
      • submitting the task, without caring about the timeout of the task
      • adding the Future resulted and the time when it should end to an internal structure
    • one for executing an internal job which is checking the internal structure if some tasks are timeout and if they have to be cancelled.

What do I need to do to get Internet Explorer 8 to accept a self signed certificate?

Unfortunately none of the solutions worked for me. I used Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7. When I was looking for a solution, I found the settings about login information in the control panel. So I added a new entry under the certificate based information with the address of my server and I chose my prefered certificate.

After a clear of the SSL cache in Internet Explorer 8 I just refreshed the site and the right certificate was sent to the server.

This isn't the solution which I wanted, but it works.

You can list the tags on remote repository with ls-remote, and then check if it's there. Supposing the remote reference name is origin in the following.

And you can list tags local with tag.

You can compare the results manually or in script.

You are clearing the list here and adding one element ("first"), the 1st reference of listOfSomething is updated as well sonce both reference the same object, so when you access the second element myList.get(1) (which does not exist anymore) you get the null.

Notice both collection.Add(listOfSomething); save two references to the same arraylist object.

You need to create two different instances for two elements:
