Programs & Examples On #Uiviewanimationtransition

Specifies a transition to apply to a `UIView` in an animation block.

iPhone UIView Animation Best Practice

Anyway the "Block" method is preffered now-a-days. I will explain the simple block below.

Consider the snipped below. bug2 and bug 3 are imageViews. The below animation describes an animation with 1 second duration after a delay of 1 second. The bug3 is moved from its center to bug2's center. Once the animation is completed it will be logged "Center Animation Done!".

-(void)centerAnimation:(id)sender
{
NSLog(@"Center animation triggered!");
CGPoint bug2Center = bug2.center;

[UIView animateWithDuration:1
                      delay:1.0
                    options: UIViewAnimationCurveEaseOut
                 animations:^{
                     bug3.center = bug2Center;
                 }
                 completion:^(BOOL finished){
                     NSLog(@"Center Animation Done!");
                 }];
}

Hope that's clean!!!

Empty set literal?

By all means, please use set() to create an empty set.

But, if you want to impress people, tell them that you can create an empty set using literals and * with Python >= 3.5 (see PEP 448) by doing:

>>> s = {*()}  # or {*{}} or {*[]}
>>> print(s)
set()

this is basically a more condensed way of doing {_ for _ in ()}, but, don't do this.

Ruby: How to post a file via HTTP as multipart/form-data?

Another one using only standard libraries:

uri = URI('https://some.end.point/some/path')
request = Net::HTTP::Post.new(uri)
request['Authorization'] = 'If you need some headers'
form_data = [['photos', photo.tempfile]] # or File.open() in case of local file

request.set_form form_data, 'multipart/form-data'
response = Net::HTTP.start(uri.hostname, uri.port, use_ssl: true) do |http| # pay attention to use_ssl if you need it
  http.request(request)
end

Tried a lot of approaches but only this was worked for me.

How to Detect cause of 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error and handle it?

There is of course some apache log files. Search in your apache configuration files for 'Log' keyword, you'll certainly find plenty of them. Depending on your OS and installation places may vary (in a Typical Linux server it would be /var/log/apache2/[access|error].log).

Having a 503 error in Apache usually means the proxied page/service is not available. I assume you're using tomcat and that means tomcat is either not responding to apache (timeout?) or not even available (down? crashed?). So chances are that it's a configuration error in the way to connect apache and tomcat or an application inside tomcat that is not even sending a response for apache.

Sometimes, in production servers, it can as well be that you get too much traffic for the tomcat server, apache handle more request than the proxyied service (tomcat) can accept so the backend became unavailable.

SHA512 vs. Blowfish and Bcrypt

I would recommend Ulrich Drepper's SHA-256/SHA-512 based crypt implementation.

We ported these algorithms to Java, and you can find a freely licensed version of them at ftp://ftp.arlut.utexas.edu/java_hashes/.

Note that most modern (L)Unices support Drepper's algorithm in their /etc/shadow files.

IIS URL Rewrite and Web.config

Just tried this rule, and it worked with GoDaddy hosting since they've already have the Microsoft URL Rewriting module installed for every IIS 7 account.

<rewrite>
  <rules>
    <rule name="enquiry" stopProcessing="true">
      <match url="^enquiry$" />
      <action type="Rewrite" url="/Enquiry.aspx" />
    </rule>
  </rules>
</rewrite>

How to remove a virtualenv created by "pipenv run"

You can run the pipenv command with the --rm option as in:

pipenv --rm

This will remove the virtualenv created for you under ~/.virtualenvs

See https://pipenv.kennethreitz.org/en/latest/cli/#cmdoption-pipenv-rm

I don't have "Dynamic Web Project" option in Eclipse new Project wizard

"http://download.eclipse.org/releases/kepler"(If you have Eclipse Kepler)

Based on your eclipse choose above link and copy in

  1. help>Install new software

  2. paste in "work with" click add

  3. give any name you want - plugin

  4. In the list select>"Web, XML, Java EE and OSGi Enterprise Development">Eclipse Java EE

    Developer Tools. select and install it.

  5. After restart you will have your Dyanmic web project option.

Thank You.

Like me if it worked please

How can I determine if an image has loaded, using Javascript/jQuery?

I find that this simple solution works best for me:

        function setEqualHeight(a, b) {
            if (!$(a).height()) {
                return window.setTimeout(function(){ setEqualHeight(a, b); }, 1000);
            }
            $(b).height($(a).height());
        }

        $(document).ready(function() {
            setEqualHeight('#image', '#description');
            $(window).resize(function(){setEqualHeight('#image', '#description')});
        });
    </script>

Determine if an element has a CSS class with jQuery

from the FAQ

elem = $("#elemid");
if (elem.is (".class")) {
   // whatever
}

or:

elem = $("#elemid");
if (elem.hasClass ("class")) {
   // whatever
}

Express.js Response Timeout

An update if one is using Express 4.2 then the timeout middleware has been removed so need to manually add it with

npm install connect-timeout

and in the code it has to be (Edited as per comment, how to include it in the code)

 var timeout = require('connect-timeout');
 app.use(timeout('100s'));

Handling data in a PHP JSON Object

Just use it like it was an object you defined. i.e.

$trends = $json_output->trends;

What is this spring.jpa.open-in-view=true property in Spring Boot?

This property will register an OpenEntityManagerInViewInterceptor, which registers an EntityManager to the current thread, so you will have the same EntityManager until the web request is finished. It has nothing to do with a Hibernate SessionFactory etc.

How to limit file upload type file size in PHP?

Hope This useful...

For loop in Oracle SQL

You are pretty confused my friend. There are no LOOPS in SQL, only in PL/SQL. Here's a few examples based on existing Oracle table - copy/paste to see results:

-- Numeric FOR loop --
set serveroutput on -->> do not use in TOAD --
DECLARE
  k NUMBER:= 0;
BEGIN
  FOR i IN 1..10 LOOP
    k:= k+1;
    dbms_output.put_line(i||' '||k);
 END LOOP;
END;
/

-- Cursor FOR loop --
set serveroutput on
DECLARE
   CURSOR c1 IS SELECT * FROM scott.emp;
   i NUMBER:= 0;
BEGIN
  FOR e_rec IN c1 LOOP
  i:= i+1;
    dbms_output.put_line(i||chr(9)||e_rec.empno||chr(9)||e_rec.ename);
  END LOOP;
END;
/

-- SQL example to generate 10 rows --
SELECT 1 + LEVEL-1 idx
  FROM dual
CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 10
/

Iterate through dictionary values?

If all your values are unique, you can make a reverse dictionary:

PIXO_reverse = {v: k for k, v in PIX0.items()}

Result:

>>> PIXO_reverse

{'320x240': 'QVGA', '640x480': 'VGA', '800x600': 'SVGA'}

Now you can use the same logic as before.

Pandas/Python: Set value of one column based on value in another column

I had a big dataset and .loc[] was taking too long so I found a vectorized way to do it. Recall that you can set a column to a logical operator, so this works:

file['Flag'] = (file['Claim_Amount'] > 0)

This gives a Boolean, which I wanted, but you can multiply it by, say, 1 to make an Integer.

How to browse localhost on Android device?

to access localhost on emulator: 10.0.2.2. However this may not always work for example if you have something other than a web server such as XMPP server.

assuming that you're on the same wireless network...

  1. find your local ip (should be something 192.168.1.x) - go to the command line and type 'ipconfig' to get this. where x is the assigned local ip of the server machine.

  2. use your local ip for your android device to connect to your localhost.

it worked for me.

Html ordered list 1.1, 1.2 (Nested counters and scope) not working

I encountered similar problem recently. The fix is to set the display property of the li items in the ordered list to list-item, and not display block, and ensure that the display property of ol is not list-item. i.e

li { display: list-item;}

With this, the html parser sees all li as the list item and assign the appropriate value to it, and sees the ol, as an inline-block or block element based on your settings, and doesn't try to assign any count value to it.

Is there an XSLT name-of element?

<xsl:for-each select="person">
  <xsl:for-each select="*">
    <xsl:value-of select="local-name()"/> : <xsl:value-of select="."/>
  </xsl:for-each>
</xsl:for-each>

How can I check if an argument is defined when starting/calling a batch file?

This is the same as the other answers, but uses only one label and puts the usage first, which additionally makes it serve as a kind of documentation commend of the script which is also usually placed at the top:

@echo off
:: add other test for the arguments here...
if not [%1]==[] goto main
:: --------------------------
echo This command does something.
echo.
echo %0 param%%1 param%%2
echo param%%1 the file to operate on
echo       param%%1 another file

:: --------------------------
exit /B 1

:main
:: --------------------------
echo do something with all arguments (%%* == %*) here...

However, if you don't have to use cmd/batch, use bash on WSL or powershell, they have more sane syntax and less arcane features.

TypeError: 'function' object is not subscriptable - Python

You have two objects both named bank_holiday -- one a list and one a function. Disambiguate the two.

bank_holiday[month] is raising an error because Python thinks bank_holiday refers to the function (the last object bound to the name bank_holiday), whereas you probably intend it to mean the list.

SessionTimeout: web.xml vs session.maxInactiveInterval()

Now, i'm being told that this will terminate the session (or is it all sessions?) in the 15th minute of use, regardless their activity.

No, that's not true. The session-timeout configures a per session timeout in case of inactivity.

Are these methods equivalent? Should I favour the web.xml config?

The setting in the web.xml is global, it applies to all sessions of a given context. Programatically, you can change this for a particular session.

In C#, should I use string.Empty or String.Empty or "" to intitialize a string?

I personally prefer "" unless there is a good reason to something more complex.

When can I use a forward declaration?

I'm writing this as a separate answer rather than just a comment because I disagree with Luc Touraille's answer, not on the grounds of legality but for robust software and the danger of misinterpretation.

Specifically, I have an issue with the implied contract of what you expect users of your interface to have to know.

If you are returning or accepting reference types, then you are just saying they can pass through a pointer or reference which they may in turn have known only through a forward declaration.

When you are returning an incomplete type X f2(); then you are saying your caller must have the full type specification of X. They need it in order to create the LHS or temporary object at the call site.

Similarly, if you accept an incomplete type, the caller has to have constructed the object which is the parameter. Even if that object was returned as another incomplete type from a function, the call site needs the full declaration. i.e.:

class X; // forward for two legal declarations
X returnsX();
void XAcceptor(X);

XAcepptor( returnsX() ); // X declaration needs to be known here

I think there's an important principle that a header should supply enough information to use it without a dependency requiring other headers. That means header should be able to be included in a compilation unit without causing a compiler error when you use any functions it declares.

Except

  1. If this external dependency is desired behaviour. Instead of using conditional compilation you could have a well-documented requirement for them to supply their own header declaring X. This is an alternative to using #ifdefs and can be a useful way to introduce mocks or other variants.

  2. The important distinction being some template techniques where you are explicitly NOT expected to instantiate them, mentioned just so someone doesn't get snarky with me.

Finding the average of an array using JS

You calculate an average by adding all the elements and then dividing by the number of elements.

var total = 0;
for(var i = 0; i < grades.length; i++) {
    total += grades[i];
}
var avg = total / grades.length;

The reason you got 68 as your result is because in your loop, you keep overwriting your average, so the final value will be the result of your last calculation. And your division and multiplication by grades.length cancel each other out.

How to properly create composite primary keys - MYSQL

I would use a composite (multi-column) key.

CREATE TABLE INFO (
    t1ID INT,
    t2ID INT,
    PRIMARY KEY (t1ID, t2ID)
)

This way you can have t1ID and t2ID as foreign keys pointing to their respective tables as well.

Get value of input field inside an iframe

Yes it should be possible, even if the site is from another domain.

For example, in an HTML page on my site I have an iFrame whose contents are sourced from another website. The iFrame content is a single select field.

I need to be able to read the selected value on my site. In other words, I need to use the select list from another domain inside my own application. I do not have control over any server settings.

Initially therefore we might be tempted to do something like this (simplified):

HTML in my site:

<iframe name='select_frame' src='http://www.othersite.com/select.php?initial_name=jim'></iframe>
<input type='button' name='save' value='SAVE'>

HTML contents of iFrame (loaded from select.php on another domain):

<select id='select_name'>
    <option value='john'>John</option>
    <option value='jim' selected>Jim</option>
</select>

jQuery:

$('input:button[name=save]').click(function() {
    var name = $('iframe[name=select_frame]').contents().find('#select_name').val();
});

However, I receive this javascript error when I attempt to read the value:

Blocked a frame with origin "http://www.myownsite.com" from accessing a frame with origin "http://www.othersite.com". Protocols, domains, and ports must match.

To get around this problem, it seems that you can indirectly source the iFrame from a script in your own site, and have that script read the contents from the other site using a method like file_get_contents() or curl etc.

So, create a script (for example: select_local.php in the current directory) on your own site with contents similar to this:

PHP content of select_local.php:

<?php
    $url = "http://www.othersite.com/select.php?" . $_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'];
    $html_select = file_get_contents($url);
    echo $html_select;
?>

Also modify the HTML to call this local (instead of the remote) script:

<iframe name='select_frame' src='select_local.php?initial_name=jim'></iframe>
<input type='button' name='save' value='SAVE'>

Now your browser should think that it is loading the iFrame content from the same domain.

keyCode values for numeric keypad?

******************* Don't use KEYCODE !!!! ******************

The problem with keyCode is to avoid the combined keys with the numbers on top of keyboard, we must add a check on the key "Shift" and "Alt" to avoid special characters such as e @ & " { } ...

A simplest solution is to convert e.key to a number and check if the conversion gives NaN!

let key = Number(e.key)
if (isNaN(key) || e.key === null || e.key === ' ') {
  console.log("is not numeric")
}
else {
  console.log("is numeric")
}

Be careful if e.key is null or a space, it gives 0 !

Number(5)         // => 5
Number('5')       // => 5
Number(null)      // => 0
Number(' ')       // => 0
Number('chars')   // => NaN
Number(undefined) // => NaN

Using grep to search for a string that has a dot in it

You can also search with -- option which basically ignores all the special characters and it won't be interpreted by grep.

$ cat foo |grep -- "0\.49"

Regex match digits, comma and semicolon?

You are 90% of the way there.

^[0-9,;]+$

Starting with the carat ^ indicates a beginning of line.

The [ indicates a character set

The 0-9 indicates characters 0 through 9, the comma , indicates comma, and the semicolon indicates a ;.

The closing ] indicates the end of the character set.

The plus + indicates that one or more of the "previous item" must be present. In this case it means that you must have one or more of the characters in the previously declared character set.

The dollar $ indicates the end of the line.

Changing capitalization of filenames in Git

Sometimes you want to change the capitalization of a lot of file names on a case insensitive filesystem (e.g. on OS X or Windows). Doing git mv commands will tire quickly. To make things a bit easier this is what I do:

  1. Move all files outside of the directory to, let’s, say the desktop.
  2. Do a git add . -A to remove all files.
  3. Rename all files on the desktop to the proper capitalization.
  4. Move all the files back to the original directory.
  5. Do a git add .. Git should see that the files are renamed.

Now you can make a commit saying you have changed the file name capitalization.

Only read selected columns

The vroom package provides a 'tidy' method of selecting / dropping columns by name during import. Docs: https://www.tidyverse.org/blog/2019/05/vroom-1-0-0/#column-selection

Column selection (col_select)

The vroom argument 'col_select' makes selecting columns to keep (or omit) more straightforward. The interface for col_select is the same as dplyr::select().

Select columns by name
data <- vroom("flights.tsv", col_select = c(year, flight, tailnum))
#> Observations: 336,776
#> Variables: 3
#> chr [1]: tailnum
#> dbl [2]: year, flight
#>
#> Call `spec()` for a copy-pastable column specification
#> Specify the column types with `col_types` to quiet this message
Drop columns by name
data <- vroom("flights.tsv", col_select = c(-dep_time, -air_time:-time_hour))
#> Observations: 336,776
#> Variables: 13
#> chr [4]: carrier, tailnum, origin, dest
#> dbl [9]: year, month, day, sched_dep_time, dep_delay, arr_time, sched_arr_time, arr...
#>
#> Call `spec()` for a copy-pastable column specification
#> Specify the column types with `col_types` to quiet this message
Use the selection helpers
data <- vroom("flights.tsv", col_select = ends_with("time"))
#> Observations: 336,776
#> Variables: 5
#> dbl [5]: dep_time, sched_dep_time, arr_time, sched_arr_time, air_time
#>
#> Call `spec()` for a copy-pastable column specification
#> Specify the column types with `col_types` to quiet this message
Or rename columns by name
data <- vroom("flights.tsv", col_select = list(plane = tailnum, everything()))
#> Observations: 336,776
#> Variables: 19
#> chr [ 4]: carrier, tailnum, origin, dest

Calculating a directory's size using Python?

monknut answer is good but it fails on broken symlink, so you also have to check if this path really exists

if os.path.exists(fp):
    total_size += os.stat(fp).st_size

Efficiently updating database using SQLAlchemy ORM

SQLAlchemy's ORM is meant to be used together with the SQL layer, not hide it. But you do have to keep one or two things in mind when using the ORM and plain SQL in the same transaction. Basically, from one side, ORM data modifications will only hit the database when you flush the changes from your session. From the other side, SQL data manipulation statements don't affect the objects that are in your session.

So if you say

for c in session.query(Stuff).all():
    c.foo = c.foo+1
session.commit()

it will do what it says, go fetch all the objects from the database, modify all the objects and then when it's time to flush the changes to the database, update the rows one by one.

Instead you should do this:

session.execute(update(stuff_table, values={stuff_table.c.foo: stuff_table.c.foo + 1}))
session.commit()

This will execute as one query as you would expect, and because at least the default session configuration expires all data in the session on commit you don't have any stale data issues.

In the almost-released 0.5 series you could also use this method for updating:

session.query(Stuff).update({Stuff.foo: Stuff.foo + 1})
session.commit()

That will basically run the same SQL statement as the previous snippet, but also select the changed rows and expire any stale data in the session. If you know you aren't using any session data after the update you could also add synchronize_session=False to the update statement and get rid of that select.

Fastest way to find second (third...) highest/lowest value in vector or column

Here is the simplest way I found,

num <- c(5665,1615,5154,65564,69895646)

num <- sort(num, decreasing = F)

tail(num, 1)                           # Highest number
head(tail(num, 2),1)                   # Second Highest number
head(tail(num, 3),1)                   # Third Highest number
head(tail(num, n),1) # Generl equation for finding nth Highest number

Returning a pointer to a vector element in c++

Return the address of the thing pointed to by the iterator:

&(*iterator)

Edit: To clear up some confusion:

vector <int> vec; // a global vector of ints

void f() {
   vec.push_back( 1 );    // add to the global vector
   vector <int>::iterator it = vec.begin();
   * it = 2;              // change what was 1 to 2
   int * p = &(*it);      // get pointer to first element
   * p = 3;               // change what was 2 to 3
}

No need for vectors of pointers or dynamic allocation.

Creating multiline strings in JavaScript

to sum up, I have tried 2 approaches listed here in user javascript programming (Opera 11.01):

So I recommend the working approach for Opera user JS users. Unlike what the author was saying:

It doesn't work on firefox or opera; only on IE, chrome and safari.

It DOES work in Opera 11. At least in user JS scripts. Too bad I can't comment on individual answers or upvote the answer, I'd do it immediately. If possible, someone with higher privileges please do it for me.

vuejs update parent data from child component

I agree with the event emitting and v-model answers for those above. However, I thought I would post what I found about components with multiple form elements that want to emit back to their parent since this seems one of the first articles returned by google.

I know the question specifies a single input, but this seemed the closest match and might save people some time with similar vue components. Also, no one has mentioned the .sync modifier yet.

As far as I know, the v-model solution is only suited to one input returning to their parent. I took a bit of time looking for it but Vue (2.3.0) documentation does show how to sync multiple props sent into the component back to the parent (via emit of course).

It is appropriately called the .sync modifier.

Here is what the documentation says:

In some cases, we may need “two-way binding” for a prop. Unfortunately, true two-way binding can create maintenance issues, because child components can mutate the parent without the source of that mutation being obvious in both the parent and the child.

That’s why instead, we recommend emitting events in the pattern of update:myPropName. For example, in a hypothetical component with a title prop, we could communicate the intent of assigning a new value with:

this.$emit('update:title', newTitle)

Then the parent can listen to that event and update a local data property, if it wants to. For example:

<text-document
 v-bind:title="doc.title"
 v-on:update:title="doc.title = $event"
></text-document>

For convenience, we offer a shorthand for this pattern with the .sync modifier:

<text-document v-bind:title.sync="doc.title"></text-document>

You can also sync multiple at a time by sending through an object. Check out the documentation here

Regular Expression to match only alphabetic characters

In Ruby and other languages that support POSIX character classes in bracket expressions, you can do simply:

/\A[[:alpha:]]+\z/i

That will match alpha-chars in all Unicode alphabet languages. Easy peasy.

Presenting a UIAlertController properly on an iPad using iOS 8

Swift 5

I used "actionsheet" style for iPhone and "alert" for iPad. iPad displays in the center of the screen. No need to specify sourceView or anchor the view anywhere.

var alertStyle = UIAlertController.Style.actionSheet
if (UIDevice.current.userInterfaceIdiom == .pad) {
  alertStyle = UIAlertController.Style.alert
}

let alertController = UIAlertController(title: "Your title", message: nil, preferredStyle: alertStyle)

Edit: Per ShareToD's suggestion, updated deprecated "UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiom.pad" check

How do I pass JavaScript variables to PHP?

How do I stretch an image to fit the whole background (100% height x 100% width) in Flutter?

To make an Image fill its parent, simply wrap it into a FittedBox:

FittedBox(
  child: Image.asset('foo.png'),
  fit: BoxFit.fill,
)

FittedBox here will stretch the image to fill the space. (Note that this functionality used to be provided by BoxFit.fill, but the API has meanwhile changed such that BoxFit no longer provides this functionality. FittedBox should work as a drop-in replacement, no changes need to be made to the constructor arguments.)

Alternatively, for complex decorations you can use a Container instead of an Image – and use decoration/foregroundDecoration fields.

To make the Container will its parent, it should either:

  • have no child
  • have alignment property not null

Here's an example that combines two images and a Text in a single Container, while taking 100% width/height of its parent:

enter image description here

Container(
  foregroundDecoration: const BoxDecoration(
    image: DecorationImage(
        image: NetworkImage(
            'https://p6.storage.canalblog.com/69/50/922142/85510911_o.png'),
        fit: BoxFit.fill),
  ),
  decoration: const BoxDecoration(
    image: DecorationImage(
        alignment: Alignment(-.2, 0),
        image: NetworkImage(
            'http://www.naturerights.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Taranaki-NR-post-1170x550.png'),
        fit: BoxFit.cover),
  ),
  alignment: Alignment.bottomCenter,
  padding: EdgeInsets.only(bottom: 20),
  child: Text(
    "Hello World",
    style: Theme.of(context)
        .textTheme
        .display1
        .copyWith(color: Colors.white),
  ),
),

javascript setTimeout() not working

This line:

setTimeout(startTimer(), startInterval);

You're invoking startTimer(). Instead, you need to pass it in as a function to be invoked, like so:

setTimeout(startTimer, startInterval);

Image height and width not working?

http://www.markrafferty.com/wp-content/w3tc/min/7415c412.e68ae1.css

Line 11:

.postItem img {
    height: auto;
    width: 450px;
}

You can either edit your CSS, or you can listen to Mageek and use INLINE STYLING to override the CSS styling that's happening:

<img src="theSource" style="width:30px;" />

Avoid setting both width and height, as the image itself might not be scaled proportionally. But you can set the dimensions to whatever you want, as per Mageek's example.

Reading inputStream using BufferedReader.readLine() is too slow

I strongly suspect that's because of the network connection or the web server you're talking to - it's not BufferedReader's fault. Try measuring this:

InputStream stream = conn.getInputStream();
byte[] buffer = new byte[1000];
// Start timing
while (stream.read(buffer) > 0)
{
}
// End timing

I think you'll find it's almost exactly the same time as when you're parsing the text.

Note that you should also give InputStreamReader an appropriate encoding - the platform default encoding is almost certainly not what you should be using.

How to revert to origin's master branch's version of file

Assuming you did not commit the file, or add it to the index, then:

git checkout -- filename

Assuming you added it to the index, but did not commit it, then:

git reset HEAD filename
git checkout -- filename

Assuming you did commit it, then:

git checkout origin/master filename

Assuming you want to blow away all commits from your branch (VERY DESTRUCTIVE):

git reset --hard origin/master

How do you get a directory listing sorted by creation date in python?

Here's my version:

def getfiles(dirpath):
    a = [s for s in os.listdir(dirpath)
         if os.path.isfile(os.path.join(dirpath, s))]
    a.sort(key=lambda s: os.path.getmtime(os.path.join(dirpath, s)))
    return a

First, we build a list of the file names. isfile() is used to skip directories; it can be omitted if directories should be included. Then, we sort the list in-place, using the modify date as the key.

How to find path of active app.config file?

The first time I realized that the Unit testing project referenced the app.config in that project rather then the app.config associated with my production code project (off course, DOH) I just added a line in the Post Build Event of the Prod project that will copy the app.config to the bin folder of the test project.

Problem solved

I haven't noticed any weird side effects so far, but I am not sure that this is the right solution, but at least it seems to work.

Get Country of IP Address with PHP

You can use https://ip-api.io/ to get country name, city name, latitude and longitude. It supports IPv6.

As a bonus it will tell if ip address is a tor node, public proxy or spammer.

Rounding to 2 decimal places in SQL

Try to avoid formatting in your query. You should return your data in a raw format and let the receiving application (e.g. a reporting service or end user app) do the formatting, i.e. rounding and so on.

Formatting the data in the server makes it harder (or even impossible) for you to further process your data. You usually want export the table or do some aggregation as well, like sum, average etc. As the numbers arrive as strings (varchar), there is usually no easy way to further process them. Some report designers will even refuse to offer the option to aggregate these 'numbers'.

Also, the end user will see the country specific formatting of the server instead of his own PC.

Also, consider rounding problems. If you round the values in the server and then still do some calculations (supposing the client is able to revert the number-strings back to a number), you will end up getting wrong results.

What are ODEX files in Android?

This Blog article explains the internals of ODEX files:

WHAT IS AN ODEX FILE?

In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These ‘odex’ files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution.

Getting the filenames of all files in a folder

Here's how to look in the documentation.

First, you're dealing with IO, so look in the java.io package.

There are two classes that look interesting: FileFilter and FileNameFilter. When I clicked on the first, it showed me that there was a a listFiles() method in the File class. And the documentation for that method says:

Returns an array of abstract pathnames denoting the files in the directory denoted by this abstract pathname.

Scrolling up in the File JavaDoc, I see the constructors. And that's really all I need to be able to create a File instance and call listFiles() on it. Scrolling still further, I can see some information about how files are named in different operating systems.

CSS Box Shadow Bottom Only

try this to get the box-shadow under your full control.

                background-color:yellow;
                box-shadow: 0 10px black inset,0 -10px red inset, -10px 0 blue inset, 10px 0 green inset;

    </html>

this would apply to outer box-shadow as well.

How to move the cursor word by word in the OS X Terminal

As answered previously, you can add set -o vi in your ~/.bashrc to use vi/vim key bindings, or else you can add following part in .bashrc to move with Ctrl and arrow keys:

# bindings to move 1 word left/right with ctrl+left/right in terminal, just some apple stuff!
bind '"\e[5C": forward-word'
bind '"\e[5D": backward-word'
# bindings to move 1 word left/right with ctrl+left/right in iTerm2, just some apple stuff!
bind '"\e[1;5C": forward-word'
bind '"\e[1;5D": backward-word'

To start effect of these lines of code, either source ~/.bashrc or start a new terminal session.

Relative path in HTML

The easiest way to solve this in pure HTML is to use the <base href="…"> element like so:

<base href="http://localhost/mywebsite/" />

Then all of the URLs in your HTML can just be this:

<a href="images/example.png">Link To Image</a>

Just change the <base href="…"> to match your server. The rest of the HTML paths will just fall in line and will be appended to that.

Two Divs on the same row and center align both of them

Better way till now:

  1. If you give display:inline-block; to inner divs then child elements of inner divs will also get this property and disturb alignment of inner divs.

  2. Better way is to use two different classes for inner divs with width, margin and float.

Best way till now:

Use flexbox.

base 64 encode and decode a string in angular (2+)

For encoding to base64 in Angular2, you can use btoa() function.

Example:-

console.log(btoa("stringAngular2"));
// Output:- c3RyaW5nQW5ndWxhcjI=

For decoding from base64 in Angular2, you can use atob() function.

Example:-

console.log(atob("c3RyaW5nQW5ndWxhcjI="));
// Output:- stringAngular2

SQL Server default character encoding

SELECT DATABASEPROPERTYEX('DBName', 'Collation') SQLCollation;

Where DBName is your database name.

Is "&#160;" a replacement of "&nbsp;"?

&#160; is the numeric reference for the entity reference &nbsp; — they are the exact same thing. It's likely your editor is simply inserting the numberic reference instead of the named one.

See the Wikipedia page for the non-breaking space.

Run javascript function when user finishes typing instead of on key up?

I don't think keyDown event is necessary in this case (please tell me why if I'm wrong). In my (non-jquery) script similar solution looks like that:

var _timer, _timeOut = 2000;

function _onKeyUp(e) {
    clearTimeout(_timer);
    if (e.keyCode == 13) {      // close on ENTER key
        _onCloseClick();
    } else {                    // send xhr requests
        _timer = window.setTimeout(function() {
            _onInputChange();
        }, _timeOut)
    }

}

It's my first reply on Stack Overflow, so I hope this helps someone, someday:)

round() for float in C++

// Convert the float to a string
// We might use stringstream, but it looks like it truncates the float to only
//5 decimal points (maybe that's what you want anyway =P)

float MyFloat = 5.11133333311111333;
float NewConvertedFloat = 0.0;
string FirstString = " ";
string SecondString = " ";
stringstream ss (stringstream::in | stringstream::out);
ss << MyFloat;
FirstString = ss.str();

// Take out how ever many decimal places you want
// (this is a string it includes the point)
SecondString = FirstString.substr(0,5);
//whatever precision decimal place you want

// Convert it back to a float
stringstream(SecondString) >> NewConvertedFloat;
cout << NewConvertedFloat;
system("pause");

It might be an inefficient dirty way of conversion but heck, it works lol. And it's good, because it applies to the actual float. Not just affecting the output visually.

Passing arguments to an interactive program non-interactively

For more complex tasks there is expect ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expect ). It basically simulates a user, you can code a script how to react to specific program outputs and related stuff.

This also works in cases like ssh that prohibits piping passwords to it.

How to mount a single file in a volume

In windows, if you need the a ${PWD} env variable in your docker-compose.yml you can creat a .env file in the same directory as your docker-compose.yml file then insert manualy the location of your folder.

CMD (pwd_var.bat) :

echo PWD=%cd% >> .env

Powershell (pwd_var.ps1) :

$PSDefaultParameterValues['Out-File:Encoding'] = 'utf8'; echo "PWD=$(get-location).path" >> .env

There is more good features hear for docker-compose .env variables: https://docs.docker.com/compose/reference/envvars/ especially for the COMPOSE_CONVERT_WINDOWS_PATHS env variable that allow docker compose to accept windows path with baskslash "\".

When you want to share a file on windows, the file must exist before sharing it with the container.

The project cannot be built until the build path errors are resolved.

For my mac osx Eclipse, I followed following steps:

  1. Right CLick on your project, Choose Build Path > Configure Build Path
  2. Select Libraries Tab and delete any arbitrary library or anything else causing errors in Build Path.
  3. Click on Add Library button, Select JRE System Library and click Next.
  4. Choose last Radiobutton option Workspace default JRE and click Finish.
  5. Clean and build your project.

Unable to create migrations after upgrading to ASP.NET Core 2.0

Something that really helped me was this article: https://elanderson.net/2017/09/unable-to-create-an-object-of-type-applicationdbcontext-add-an-implementation-of-idesigntimedbcontextfactory/

The basic idea is that in the change over from .net core 1 to 2 all db initialization should be moved out of the StartUp.cs and into the Program.cs. Otherwise the EF tasks try and run your DB inits when doing tasks.

"There is a nice section in the official migration docs (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/ef/core/miscellaneous/1x-2x-upgrade) titled “Move database initialization code” which I seemed to have missed. So before you head down any rabbit holes like I did make sure this isn’t what is causing your need to add an implementation of IdesignTimeDbContextFactory."

Updating Python on Mac

I wanted to achieve the same today. The Mac with Snow Leopard comes with Python 2.6.1 version.

Since multiple Python versions can coexist, I downloaded Python 3.2.3 from: http://www.python.org/getit/

After installation the newer Python will be available under the Application folder and the IDE there uses 3.2.3 version of Python.

From the shell, python3 works with the newer version. That serves the purpose :)

SVN checkout the contents of a folder, not the folder itself

Just add the directory on the command line:

svn checkout svn://192.168.1.1/projectname/ target-directory/

How to find length of digits in an integer?

Let the number be n then the number of digits in n is given by:

math.floor(math.log10(n))+1

Note that this will give correct answers for +ve integers < 10e15. Beyond that the precision limits of the return type of math.log10 kicks in and the answer may be off by 1. I would simply use len(str(n)) beyond that; this requires O(log(n)) time which is same as iterating over powers of 10.

Thanks to @SetiVolkylany for bringing my attenstion to this limitation. Its amazing how seemingly correct solutions have caveats in implementation details.

failed to open stream: HTTP wrapper does not support writeable connections

Instead of doing file_put_contents(***WebSiteURL***...) you need to use the server path to /cache/lang/file.php (e.g. /home/content/site/folders/filename.php).

You cannot open a file over HTTP and expect it to be written. Instead you need to open it using the local path.

How to select all columns, except one column in pandas?

Don't use ix. It's deprecated. The most readable and idiomatic way of doing this is df.drop():

>>> df

          a         b         c         d
0  0.175127  0.191051  0.382122  0.869242
1  0.414376  0.300502  0.554819  0.497524
2  0.142878  0.406830  0.314240  0.093132
3  0.337368  0.851783  0.933441  0.949598

>>> df.drop('b', axis=1)

          a         c         d
0  0.175127  0.382122  0.869242
1  0.414376  0.554819  0.497524
2  0.142878  0.314240  0.093132
3  0.337368  0.933441  0.949598

Note that by default, .drop() does not operate inplace; despite the ominous name, df is unharmed by this process. If you want to permanently remove b from df, do df.drop('b', inplace=True).

df.drop() also accepts a list of labels, e.g. df.drop(['a', 'b'], axis=1) will drop column a and b.

Can't find bundle for base name /Bundle, locale en_US

I use Eclipse (without Maven) so I place the .properties file in src folder that also contains the java source code, in order to have the .properties file in the classes folder after building the project. It works fine. Take a look at this post: https://www.mkyong.com/jsf2/cant-find-bundle-for-base-name-xxx-locale-en_us/

Hope this help you.

String length in bytes in JavaScript

I compared some of the methods suggested here in Firefox for speed.

The string I used contained the following characters: œ´®†¥¨ˆøp¬°??©ƒ?ßåO˜çv?˜µ=

All results are averages of 3 runs each. Times are in milliseconds. Note that all URIEncoding methods behaved similarly and had extreme results, so I only included one.

While there are some fluctuations based on the size of the string, the charCode methods (lovasoa and fuweichin) both perform similarly and the fastest overall, with fuweichin's charCode method the fastest. The Blob and TextEncoder methods performed similarly to each other. Generally the charCode methods were about 75% faster than the Blob and TextEncoder methods. The URIEncoding method was basically unacceptable.

Here are the results I got:

Size 6.4 * 10^6 bytes:

Lauri Oherd – URIEncoding:     6400000    et: 796
lovasoa – charCode:            6400000    et: 15
fuweichin – charCode2:         6400000    et: 16
simap – Blob:                  6400000    et: 26
Riccardo Galli – TextEncoder:  6400000    et: 23

Size 19.2 * 10^6 bytes: Blob does kind of a weird thing here.

Lauri Oherd – URIEncoding:     19200000    et: 2322
lovasoa – charCode:            19200000    et: 42
fuweichin – charCode2:         19200000    et: 45
simap – Blob:                  19200000    et: 169
Riccardo Galli – TextEncoder:  19200000    et: 70

Size 64 * 10^6 bytes:

Lauri Oherd – URIEncoding:     64000000    et: 12565
lovasoa – charCode:            64000000    et: 138

simap – Blob:                  64000000    et: 231
Riccardo Galli – TextEncoder:  64000000    et: 211

Size 192 * 10^6 bytes: URIEncoding methods freezes browser at this point.

lovasoa – charCode:            192000000    et: 754
fuweichin – charCode2:         192000000    et: 480
simap – Blob:                  192000000    et: 701
Riccardo Galli – TextEncoder:  192000000    et: 654

Size 640 * 10^6 bytes:

lovasoa – charCode:            640000000    et: 2417
fuweichin – charCode2:         640000000    et: 1602
simap – Blob:                  640000000    et: 2492
Riccardo Galli – TextEncoder:  640000000    et: 2338

Size 1280 * 10^6 bytes: Blob & TextEncoder methods are starting to hit the wall here.

lovasoa – charCode:            1280000000    et: 4780

How to get a value from the last inserted row?

With PostgreSQL you can do it via the RETURNING keyword:

PostgresSQL - RETURNING

INSERT INTO mytable( field_1, field_2,... )
VALUES ( value_1, value_2 ) RETURNING anyfield

It will return the value of "anyfield". "anyfield" may be a sequence or not.

To use it with JDBC, do:

ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery("INSERT ... RETURNING ID");
rs.next();
rs.getInt(1);

How do Mockito matchers work?

Just a small addition to Jeff Bowman's excellent answer, as I found this question when searching for a solution to one of my own problems:

If a call to a method matches more than one mock's when trained calls, the order of the when calls is important, and should be from the most wider to the most specific. Starting from one of Jeff's examples:

when(foo.quux(anyInt(), anyInt())).thenReturn(true);
when(foo.quux(anyInt(), eq(5))).thenReturn(false);

is the order that ensures the (probably) desired result:

foo.quux(3 /*any int*/, 8 /*any other int than 5*/) //returns true
foo.quux(2 /*any int*/, 5) //returns false

If you inverse the when calls then the result would always be true.

Possible solution:

var tasks = dataList
    .Select(data => Task.Factory.StartNew(arg => DoThreadStuff(data), TaskContinuationOptions.LongRunning | TaskContinuationOptions.PreferFairness))

var timeout = TimeSpan.FromMinutes(1);
Task.WaitAll(tasks, timeout);

Assuming dataList is the list of items and each item needs to be processed in a separate thread.

How to copy selected files from Android with adb pull

As to the short script, the following runs on my Linux host

#!/bin/bash
HOST_DIR=<pull-to>
DEVICE_DIR=/sdcard/<pull-from>
EXTENSION="\.jpg"

while read MYFILE ; do
    adb pull "$DEVICE_DIR/$MYFILE" "$HOST_DIR/$MYFILE"
done < $(adb shell ls -1 "$DEVICE_DIR" | grep "$EXTENSION")

"ls minus one" lets "ls" show one file per line, and the quotation marks allow spaces in the filename.

add the next code after the tag <system.web> it can be at the beginning

In my case is:

<authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="~/Login/Index" timeout="1" /> </authentication>

How do I read / convert an InputStream into a String in Java?

This solution to this question is not the simplest, but since NIO streams and channels have not been mentioned, here goes a version which uses NIO channels and a ByteBuffer to convert a stream into a string.

public static String streamToStringChannel(InputStream in, String encoding, int bufSize) throws IOException {
    ReadableByteChannel channel = Channels.newChannel(in);
    ByteBuffer byteBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(bufSize);
    ByteArrayOutputStream bout = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    WritableByteChannel outChannel = Channels.newChannel(bout);
    while (channel.read(byteBuffer) > 0 || byteBuffer.position() > 0) {
        byteBuffer.flip(); //make buffer ready for write
        outChannel.write(byteBuffer);
        byteBuffer.compact(); //make buffer ready for reading
    }
    channel.close();
    outChannel.close();
    return bout.toString(encoding);
}

Here is an example how to use it:

try (InputStream in = new FileInputStream("/tmp/large_file.xml")) {
    String x = streamToStringChannel(in, "UTF-8", 1);
    System.out.println(x);
}

The performance of this method should be good for large files.

    finish();
    startActivity(intent);
}

Register an OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener, in its onShredPreferenceChanged(), invoke restartActivity() if language preference was changed. In my example, only the PreferenceActivity is restarted, but you should be able to restart other activities on activity resume by setting a flag.

Update (thanks @stackunderflow): As of API 11 (Honeycomb) you should use recreate() instead of restartActivity().

public class PreferenceActivity extends android.preference.PreferenceActivity implements
        OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener {

    // ...

    @Override
    public void onSharedPreferenceChanged(SharedPreferences sharedPreferences, String key) {
        if (key.equals("pref_language")) {
            ((Application) getApplication()).setLocale();
            restartActivity();
        }
    }

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences);
        getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this);
    }

    @Override
    protected void onStop() {
        super.onStop();
        getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().unregisterOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this);
    }
}

I have a blog post on this topic with more detail, but it's in Chinese. The full source code is on github: PreferenceActivity.java

capture div into image using html2canvas

I ran into the same type of error you described, but mine was due to the dom not being completely ready to go. I tested with both jQuery pulling the div and also getElementById just to make sure there wasn't something strange with the jQuery selector. Below is an example that works in Chrome:

Right way to split an std::string into a vector<string>

std::vector<std::string> split(std::string text, char delim) {
    std::string line;
    std::vector<std::string> vec;
    std::stringstream ss(text);
    while(std::getline(ss, line, delim)) {
        vec.push_back(line);
    }
    return vec;
}

split("String will be split", ' ') -> {"String", "will", "be", "split"}

split("Hello, how are you?", ',') -> {"Hello", "how are you?"}

EDIT: Here's a thing I made, this can use multi-char delimiters, albeit I'm not 100% sure if it always works:

std::vector<std::string> split(std::string text, std::string delim) {
    std::vector<std::string> vec;
    size_t pos = 0, prevPos = 0;
    while (1) {
        pos = text.find(delim, prevPos);
        if (pos == std::string::npos) {
            vec.push_back(text.substr(prevPos));
            return vec;
        }

        vec.push_back(text.substr(prevPos, pos - prevPos));
        prevPos = pos + delim.length();
    }
}

It seems to me the simplest way to do it with Selenium is to intercept the XHR that sends back the browser fingerprint.

But since this is a Selenium-only problem, its better just to use something else. Selenium is supposed to make things like this easier, not way harder.

Host 'xxx.xx.xxx.xxx' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server

Just find a better way to do that from your hosting control panel (I'm using DirectAdmin here)

simply go to the target server DB in your control panel, in my case: MySQL management -> select your DB -> you will find: "Access Hosts", simply add your remote host here and its working now! enter image description here

I guess there is a similar option on other C.panels like plesk, etc..

I'm hope it was helpful to you too.

What is the best way to add a value to an array in state

Both of the options you provided are the same. Both of them will still point to the same object in memory and have the same array values. You should treat the state object as immutable as you said, however you need to re-create the array so its pointing to a new object, set the new item, then reset the state. Example:

onChange(event){
    var newArray = this.state.arr.slice();
    newArray.push("new value");
    this.setState({arr:newArray})
}

NotificationCenter issue on Swift 3

Swift 3 & 4

Swift 3, and now Swift 4, have replaced many "stringly-typed" APIs with struct "wrapper types", as is the case with NotificationCenter. Notifications are now identified by a struct Notfication.Name rather than by String. For more details see the now legacy Migrating to Swift 3 guide

Swift 2.2 usage:

// Define identifier
let notificationIdentifier: String = "NotificationIdentifier"

// Register to receive notification
NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: #selector(YourClassName.methodOfReceivedNotification(_:)), name: notificationIdentifier, object: nil)

// Post a notification
NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().postNotificationName(notificationIdentifier, object: nil)

Swift 3 & 4 usage:

// Define identifier
let notificationName = Notification.Name("NotificationIdentifier")

// Register to receive notification
NotificationCenter.default.addObserver(self, selector: #selector(YourClassName.methodOfReceivedNotification), name: notificationName, object: nil)

// Post notification
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: notificationName, object: nil)

// Stop listening notification
NotificationCenter.default.removeObserver(self, name: notificationName, object: nil)

All of the system notification types are now defined as static constants on Notification.Name; i.e. .UIApplicationDidFinishLaunching, .UITextFieldTextDidChange, etc.

You can extend Notification.Name with your own custom notifications in order to stay consistent with the system notifications:

// Definition:
extension Notification.Name {
    static let yourCustomNotificationName = Notification.Name("yourCustomNotificationName")
}

// Usage:
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: .yourCustomNotificationName, object: nil)

Swift 4.2 usage:

Same as Swift 4, except now system notifications names are part of UIApplication. So in order to stay consistent with the system notifications you can extend UIApplication with your own custom notifications instead of Notification.Name :

// Definition:
UIApplication {
    public static let yourCustomNotificationName = Notification.Name("yourCustomNotificationName")
}

// Usage:
NotificationCenter.default.post(name: UIApplication.yourCustomNotificationName, object: nil)

javac is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

TL;DR

For experienced readers:

  1. Find the Java path; it looks like this: C:\Program Files\Java\jdkxxxx\bin\
  2. Start-menu search for "environment variable" to open the options dialog.
  3. Examine PATH. Remove old Java paths.
  4. Add the new Java path to PATH.
  5. Edit JAVA_HOME.
  6. Close and re-open console/IDE.

Welcome!

You have encountered one of the most notorious technical issues facing Java beginners: the 'xyz' is not recognized as an internal or external command... error message.

In a nutshell, you have not installed Java correctly. Finalizing the installation of Java on Windows requires some manual steps. You must always perform these steps after installing Java, including after upgrading the JDK.

Environment variables and PATH

(If you already understand this, feel free to skip the next three sections.)

When you run javac HelloWorld.java, cmd must determine where javac.exe is located. This is accomplished with PATH, an environment variable.

An environment variable is a special key-value pair (e.g. windir=C:\WINDOWS). Most came with the operating system, and some are required for proper system functioning. A list of them is passed to every program (including cmd) when it starts. On Windows, there are two types: user environment variables and system environment variables.

You can see your environment variables like this:

C:\>set
ALLUSERSPROFILE=C:\ProgramData
APPDATA=C:\Users\craig\AppData\Roaming
CommonProgramFiles=C:\Program Files\Common Files
CommonProgramFiles(x86)=C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files
CommonProgramW6432=C:\Program Files\Common Files
...

The most important variable is PATH. It is a list of paths, separated by ;. When a command is entered into cmd, each directory in the list will be scanned for a matching executable.

On my computer, PATH is:

C:\>echo %PATH%
C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPower
Shell\v1.0\;C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs;C:\Users\craig\AppData\
Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs;C:\msys64\usr\bin;C:\msys64\mingw64\bin;C:\
msys64\mingw32\bin;C:\Program Files\nodejs\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Yarn\bin\;C:\Users\
craig\AppData\Local\Yarn\bin;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-10.0.2\bin;C:\ProgramFiles\Git\cmd;
C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox;C:\Program Files\7-Zip\;C:\Program Files\PuTTY\;C:\
Program Files\launch4j;C:\Program Files (x86)\NSIS\Bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files
\Adobe\AGL;C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;C:\Program
Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;
C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;C:\Program Files
(x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS
Client\;C:\Users\craig\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps

When you run javac HelloWorld.java, cmd, upon realizing that javac is not an internal command, searches the system PATH followed by the user PATH. It mechanically enters every directory in the list, and checks if javac.com, javac.exe, javac.bat, etc. is present. When it finds javac, it runs it. When it does not, it prints 'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

You must add the Java executables directory to PATH.

JDK vs. JRE

(If you already understand this, feel free to skip this section.)

When downloading Java, you are offered a choice between:

  • The Java Runtime Environment (JRE), which includes the necessary tools to run Java programs, but not to compile new ones – it contains java but not javac.
  • The Java Development Kit (JDK), which contains both java and javac, along with a host of other development tools. The JDK is a superset of the JRE.

You must make sure you have installed the JDK. If you have only installed the JRE, you cannot execute javac because you do not have an installation of the Java compiler on your hard drive. Check your Windows programs list, and make sure the Java package's name includes the words "Development Kit" in it.

Don't use set

(If you weren't planning to anyway, feel free to skip this section.)

Several other answers recommend executing some variation of:

C:\>:: DON'T DO THIS
C:\>set PATH=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_09\bin

Do not do that. There are several major problems with that command:

  1. This command erases everything else from PATH and replaces it with the Java path. After executing this command, you might find various other commands not working.
  2. Your Java path is probably not C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_09\bin – you almost definitely have a newer version of the JDK, which would have a different path.
  3. The new PATH only applies to the current cmd session. You will have to reenter the set command every time you open Command Prompt.

Points #1 and #2 can be solved with this slightly better version:

C:\>:: DON'T DO THIS EITHER
C:\>set PATH=C:\Program Files\Java\<enter the correct Java folder here>\bin;%PATH%

But it is just a bad idea in general.

Find the Java path

The right way begins with finding where you have installed Java. This depends on how you have installed Java.

Exe installer

You have installed Java by running a setup program. Oracle's installer places versions of Java under C:\Program Files\Java\ (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\). With File Explorer or Command Prompt, navigate to that directory.

Each subfolder represents a version of Java. If there is only one, you have found it. Otherwise, choose the one that looks like the newer version. Make sure the folder name begins with jdk (as opposed to jre). Enter the directory.

Then enter the bin directory of that.

You are now in the correct directory. Copy the path. If in File Explorer, click the address bar. If in Command Prompt, copy the prompt.

The resulting Java path should be in the form of (without quotes):

C:\Program Files\Java\jdkxxxx\bin\

Zip file

You have downloaded a .zip containing the JDK. Extract it to some random place where it won't get in your way; C:\Java\ is an acceptable choice.

Then locate the bin folder somewhere within it.

You are now in the correct directory. Copy its path. This is the Java path.

Remember to never move the folder, as that would invalidate the path.

Open the settings dialog

That is the dialog to edit PATH. There are numerous ways to get to that dialog, depending on your Windows version, UI settings, and how messed up your system configuration is.

Try some of these:

  • Start Menu/taskbar search box » search for "environment variable"
  • Win + R » control sysdm.cpl,,3
  • Win + R » SystemPropertiesAdvanced.exe » Environment Variables
  • File Explorer » type into address bar Control Panel\System and Security\System » Advanced System Settings (far left, in sidebar) » Environment Variables
  • Desktop » right-click This PC » Properties » Advanced System Settings » Environment Variables
  • Start Menu » right-click Computer » Properties » Advanced System Settings » Environment Variables
  • Control Panel (icon mode) » System » Advanced System Settings » Environment Variables
  • Control Panel (category mode) » System and Security » System » Advanced System Settings » Environment Variables
  • Desktop » right-click My Computer » Advanced » Environment Variables
  • Control Panel » System » Advanced » Environment Variables

Any of these should take you to the right settings dialog.

If you are on Windows 10, Microsoft has blessed you with a fancy new UI to edit PATH. Otherwise, you will see PATH in its full semicolon-encrusted glory, squeezed into a single-line textbox. Do your best to make the necessary edits without breaking your system.

Clean PATH

Look at PATH. You almost definitely have two PATH variables (because of user vs. system environment variables). You need to look at both of them.

Check for other Java paths and remove them. Their existence can cause all sorts of conflicts. (For instance, if you have JRE 8 and JDK 11 in PATH, in that order, then javac will invoke the Java 11 compiler, which will create version 55 .class files, but java will invoke the Java 8 JVM, which only supports up to version 52, and you will experience unsupported version errors and not be able to compile and run any programs.) Sidestep these problems by making sure you only have one Java path in PATH. And while you're at it, you may as well uninstall old Java versions, too. And remember that you don't need to have both a JDK and a JRE.

If you have C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath, remove that as well. Oracle intended to solve the problem of Java paths breaking after upgrades by creating a symbolic link that would always point to the latest Java installation. Unfortunately, it often ends up pointing to the wrong location or simply not working. It is better to remove this entry and manually manage the Java path.

Now is also a good opportunity to perform general housekeeping on PATH. If you have paths relating to software no longer installed on your PC, you can remove them. You can also shuffle the order of paths around (if you care about things like that).

Add to PATH

Now take the Java path you found three steps ago, and place it in the system PATH.

It shouldn't matter where in the list your new path goes; placing it at the end is a fine choice.

If you are using the pre-Windows 10 UI, make sure you have placed the semicolons correctly. There should be exactly one separating every path in the list.

There really isn't much else to say here. Simply add the path to PATH and click OK.

Set JAVA_HOME

While you're at it, you may as well set JAVA_HOME as well. This is another environment variable that should also contain the Java path. Many Java and non-Java programs, including the popular Java build systems Maven and Gradle, will throw errors if it is not correctly set.

If JAVA_HOME does not exist, create it as a new system environment variable. Set it to the path of the Java directory without the bin/ directory, i.e. C:\Program Files\Java\jdkxxxx\.

Remember to edit JAVA_HOME after upgrading Java, too.

Close and re-open Command Prompt

Though you have modified PATH, all running programs, including cmd, only see the old PATH. This is because the list of all environment variables is only copied into a program when it begins executing; thereafter, it only consults the cached copy.

There is no good way to refresh cmd's environment variables, so simply close Command Prompt and open it again. If you are using an IDE, close and re-open it too.

}

alert( "fMath(sum) = " + Math.round( sum * 1e12 ) / 1e12 );
alert( "fFixed(sum) = " + sum.toFixed( 5 ) );

Conclusion

Dont use Math.round( (## + ## + ... + ##) * 1e12) / 1e12

Instead, use ( ## + ## + ... + ##).toFixed(5) )

In IE 9, toFixed works very well.

Show/hide 'div' using JavaScript

XPath to select multiple tags

Not sure if this helps, but with XSL, I'd do something like:

<xsl:for-each select="a/b">
    <xsl:value-of select="c"/>
    <xsl:value-of select="d"/>
    <xsl:value-of select="e"/>
</xsl:for-each>

and won't this XPath select all children of B nodes:

Check if element is visible on screen

Could you use jQuery, since it's cross-browser compatible?

function isOnScreen(element)
{
    var curPos = element.offset();
    var curTop = curPos.top;
    var screenHeight = $(window).height();
    return (curTop > screenHeight) ? false : true;
}

And then call the function using something like:

if(isOnScreen($('#myDivId'))) { /* Code here... */ };

Changing SVG image color with javascript

This is for <object> SVG and className is .svgClass

<object class="svgClass" type="image/svg+xml" data="image.svg"></object>

So JavaScript code is like this:

// change to red
    document.querySelector(".svgClass").getSVGDocument().getElementById("svgInternalID").setAttribute("fill", "red")

To change svgInternalID you have to open SVG file which is plain .txt (ie image.svg) and edit it

<path id="svgInternalID"

How do you clone a Git repository into a specific folder?

Option A:

git clone [email protected]:whatever folder-name

Ergo, for right here use:

git clone [email protected]:whatever .

Option B:

Move the .git folder, too. Note that the .git folder is hidden in most graphical file explorers, so be sure to show hidden files.

mv /where/it/is/right/now/* /where/I/want/it/
mv /where/it/is/right/now/.* /where/I/want/it/

The first line grabs all normal files, the second line grabs dot-files. It is also possibe to do it in one line by enabling dotglob (i.e. shopt -s dotglob) but that is probably a bad solution if you are asking the question this answer answers.

Better yet:

Keep your working copy somewhere else, and create a symbolic link. Like this:

ln -s /where/it/is/right/now /the/path/I/want/to/use

For your case this would be something like:

ln -sfn /opt/projectA/prod/public /httpdocs/public

Which easily could be changed to test if you wanted it, i.e.:

ln -sfn /opt/projectA/test/public /httpdocs/public

without moving files around. Added -fn in case someone is copying these lines (-f is force, -n avoid some often unwanted interactions with already and non-existing links).

If you just want it to work, use Option A, if someone else is going to look at what you have done, use Option C.

Turn off auto formatting in Visual Studio

It can be the case of Clang Format. Previously, the entire file is automatically formatted on file save, and it drove me nuts (for the repositories which Clang Format is not enabled).

Such behavior is gone after turning "Tools -> Option -> LLVM/Clang -> ClangFormat -> Format On Save -> Enable" to False.

When is the init() function run?

A few more tips:

  • There can only be 1 main() function, but there can be many init() functions.
  • You do not need to explicitly call init() or main(), they are called automatically.
  • init() and main() do not accept any parameters and also don't return anything.
  • init() runs before main().
  • If you have many init(), they run in the order they are declared.

Wi-Fi Direct and iOS Support

The official list of current iOS Wi-Fi Management APIs

There is no Wi-Fi Direct type of connection available. The primary issue being that Apple does not allow programmatic setting of the Wi-Fi network SSID and password. However, this improves substantially in iOS 11 where you can at least prompt the user to switch to another WiFi network.

Read contents of a local file into a variable in Rails

I think you should consider using IO.binread("/path/to/file") if you have a recent ruby interpreter (i.e. >= 1.9.2)

You could find IO class documentation here http://www.ruby-doc.org/core-2.1.2/IO.html

How to display full (non-truncated) dataframe information in html when converting from pandas dataframe to html?

Another way of viewing the full content of the cells in a pandas dataframe is to use IPython's display functions:

from IPython.display import HTML

HTML(df.to_html())

How to implement common bash idioms in Python?

pythonpy is a tool that provides easy access to many of the features from awk and sed, but using python syntax:

Android - Spacing between CheckBox and text

Simple solution, add this line in the CheckBox properties, replace 10dp with your desired spacing value

How to tell if UIViewController's view is visible

For my purposes, in the context of a container view controller, I've found that

- (BOOL)isVisible {
    return (self.isViewLoaded && self.view.window && self.parentViewController != nil);
}

works well.

Sorting list based on values from another list

This is an old question but some of the answers I see posted don't actually work because zip is not scriptable. Other answers didn't bother to import operator and provide more info about this module and its benefits here.

There are at least two good idioms for this problem. Starting with the example input you provided:

X = ["a", "b", "c", "d", "e", "f", "g", "h", "i"]
Y = [ 0,   1,   1,   0,   1,   2,   2,   0,   1 ]

Using the "Decorate-Sort-Undecorate" idiom

This is also known as the Schwartzian_transform after R. Schwartz who popularized this pattern in Perl in the 90s:

# Zip (decorate), sort and unzip (undecorate).
# Converting to list to script the output and extract X
list(zip(*(sorted(zip(Y,X)))))[1]
# Results in: ('a', 'd', 'h', 'b', 'c', 'e', 'i', 'f', 'g')

Note that in this case Y and X are sorted and compared lexicographically. That is, the first items (from Y) are compared; and if they are the same then the second items (from X) are compared, and so on. This can create unstable outputs unless you include the original list indices for the lexicographic ordering to keep duplicates in their original order.

Using the operator module

This gives you more direct control over how to sort the input, so you can get sorting stability by simply stating the specific key to sort by. See more examples here.

import operator

# Sort by Y (1) and extract X [0]
list(zip(*sorted(zip(X,Y), key=operator.itemgetter(1))))[0]
# Results in: ('a', 'd', 'h', 'b', 'c', 'e', 'i', 'f', 'g')

Android device does not show up in adb list

I have an Android LG G4 and the only thing that worked for me was to install the Software Update and Repair tool from my device. Steps:

  • Plug device into usb
  • Make sure developer options are enabled and usb debugging is checked (see elsewhere in thread or google for instructions)
  • Select usb connection type "Software installation":

enter image description here

  • An installation wizard should come up on the computer.
  • At some point during the installation you will see on your phone a prompt that asks "Trust this computer?" with an RSA token/fingerprint. After you say yes the device should be recognized by ADB and you can finish the wizard.

How to remove specific value from array using jQuery

With jQuery, you can do a single-line operation like this:

Example: http://jsfiddle.net/HWKQY/

y.splice( $.inArray(removeItem, y), 1 );

Uses the native .splice() and jQuery's $.inArray().

List of All Locales and Their Short Codes?

While accepted answer is pretty complete (I used myself in similar question that arised to me), I think it is worth to put the whole supported language codes and variations, as well as encodings, and point user to a file which is present in almost any linux distributions, in case he simply wants a quicker answer and no internet for example.

This is the file /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED and its contents:

Intent.putExtra List

Assuming that your List is a list of strings make data an ArrayList<String> and use intent.putStringArrayListExtra("data", data)

Here is a skeleton of the code you need:

  1. Declare List

    private List<String> test;

  2. Init List at appropriate place

    test = new ArrayList<String>();

    and add data as appropriate to test.

  3. Pass to intent as follows:

    Intent intent = getIntent();
    intent.putStringArrayListExtra("test", (ArrayList<String>) test);

  4. Retrieve data as follows:

    ArrayList<String> test = getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("test");

Hope that helps.

How to make the first option of <select> selected with jQuery

One subtle point I think I've discovered about the top voted answers is that even though they correctly change the selected value, they do not update the element that the user sees (only when they click the widget will they see a check next to the updated element).

Chaining a .change() call to the end will also update the UI widget as well.

$("#target").val($("#target option:first").val()).change();

(Note that I noticed this while using jQuery Mobile and a box on Chrome desktop, so this may not be the case everywhere).

Compress images on client side before uploading

I'm late to the party, but this solution worked for me quite well. Based on this library, you can use a function lik this - setting the image, quality, max-width, and output format (jepg,png):

function compress(source_img_obj, quality, maxWidth, output_format){
    var mime_type = "image/jpeg";
    if(typeof output_format !== "undefined" && output_format=="png"){
        mime_type = "image/png";
    }

    maxWidth = maxWidth || 1000;
    var natW = source_img_obj.naturalWidth;
    var natH = source_img_obj.naturalHeight;
    var ratio = natH / natW;
    if (natW > maxWidth) {
        natW = maxWidth;
        natH = ratio * maxWidth;
    }

    var cvs = document.createElement('canvas');
    cvs.width = natW;
    cvs.height = natH;

    var ctx = cvs.getContext("2d").drawImage(source_img_obj, 0, 0, natW, natH);
    var newImageData = cvs.toDataURL(mime_type, quality/100);
    var result_image_obj = new Image();
    result_image_obj.src = newImageData;
    return result_image_obj;
}

How to run wget inside Ubuntu Docker image?

I had this problem recently where apt install wget does not find anything. As it turns out apt update was never run.

apt update
apt install wget

After discussing this with a coworker we mused that apt update is likely not run in order to save both time and space in the docker image.

What's the difference between :: (double colon) and -> (arrow) in PHP?

When the left part is an object instance, you use ->. Otherwise, you use ::.

This means that -> is mostly used to access instance members (though it can also be used to access static members, such usage is discouraged), while :: is usually used to access static members (though in a few special cases, it's used to access instance members).

In general, :: is used for scope resolution, and it may have either a class name, parent, self, or (in PHP 5.3) static to its left. parent refers to the scope of the superclass of the class where it's used; self refers to the scope of the class where it's used; static refers to the "called scope" (see late static bindings).

The rule is that a call with :: is an instance call if and only if:

  • the target method is not declared as static and
  • there is a compatible object context at the time of the call, meaning these must be true:
    1. the call is made from a context where $this exists and
    2. the class of $this is either the class of the method being called or a subclass of it.

Example:

class A {
    public function func_instance() {
        echo "in ", __METHOD__, "\n";
    }
    public function callDynamic() {
        echo "in ", __METHOD__, "\n";
        B::dyn();
    }

}

class B extends A {
    public static $prop_static = 'B::$prop_static value';
    public $prop_instance = 'B::$prop_instance value';

    public function func_instance() {
        echo "in ", __METHOD__, "\n";
        /* this is one exception where :: is required to access an
         * instance member.
         * The super implementation of func_instance is being
         * accessed here */
        parent::func_instance();
        A::func_instance(); //same as the statement above
    }

    public static function func_static() {
        echo "in ", __METHOD__, "\n";
    }

    public function __call($name, $arguments) {
        echo "in dynamic $name (__call)", "\n";
    }

    public static function __callStatic($name, $arguments) {
        echo "in dynamic $name (__callStatic)", "\n";
    }

}

echo 'B::$prop_static: ', B::$prop_static, "\n";
echo 'B::func_static(): ', B::func_static(), "\n";
$a = new A;
$b = new B;
echo '$b->prop_instance: ', $b->prop_instance, "\n";
//not recommended (static method called as instance method):
echo '$b->func_static(): ', $b->func_static(), "\n";

echo '$b->func_instance():', "\n", $b->func_instance(), "\n";

/* This is more tricky
 * in the first case, a static call is made because $this is an
 * instance of A, so B::dyn() is a method of an incompatible class
 */
echo '$a->dyn():', "\n", $a->callDynamic(), "\n";
/* in this case, an instance call is made because $this is an

As mentioned in the comments, you need to install the python-qt4 package - no need to recompile it yourself.

sudo apt-get install python-qt4

How to decompile an APK or DEX file on Android platform?

You need Three Tools to decompile an APK file.

  1. Dex2jar - Tools to work with android .dex and java .class files

  2. ApkTool - A tool for reverse engineering Android apk files

  3. JD-GUI - Java Decompiler is a tools to decompile and analyze Java 5 “byte code” and the later versions.

Exporting functions from a DLL with dllexport

I had exactly the same problem, my solution was to use module definition file (.def) instead of __declspec(dllexport) to define exports(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d91k01sh.aspx). I have no idea why this works, but it does

Java equivalent to C# extension methods

The XTend language — which is a super-set of Java, and compiles to Java source code1 — supports this.

JSLint is suddenly reporting: Use the function form of "use strict"

There's nothing innately wrong with the string form.

Rather than avoid the "global" strict form for worry of concatenating non-strict javascript, it's probably better to just fix the damn non-strict javascript to be strict.

How to convert seconds to HH:mm:ss in moment.js

You can use moment-duration-format plugin:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var seconds = 3820;
var duration = moment.duration(seconds, 'seconds');
var formatted = duration.format("hh:mm:ss");
console.log(formatted); // 01:03:40
_x000D_
<!-- Moment.js library -->
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/moment.js/2.18.1/moment.min.js"></script>

<!-- moment-duration-format plugin -->
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/moment-duration-format/1.3.0/moment-duration-format.min.js"></script>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Upd: To avoid trimming for values less than 60-sec use { trim: false }:

var formatted = duration.format("hh:mm:ss", { trim: false }); // "00:00:05"

Lodash .clone and .cloneDeep behaviors

Thanks to Gruff Bunny and Louis' comments, I found the source of the issue.

As I use Backbone.js too, I loaded a special build of Lodash compatible with Backbone and Underscore that disables some features. In this example:

var clone = _.clone(data, true);

data[1].values.d = 'x';

I just replaced the Underscore build with the Normal build in my Backbone application and the application is still working. So I can now use the Lodash .clone with the expected behaviour.

Edit 2018: the Underscore build doesn't seem to exist anymore. If you are reading this in 2018, you could be interested by this documentation (Backbone and Lodash).

How to use a class object in C++ as a function parameter

I was asking the same too. Another solution is you could overload your method:

void remove_id(EmployeeClass);
void remove_id(ProductClass);
void remove_id(DepartmentClass);

in the call the argument will fit accordingly the object you pass. but then you will have to repeat yourself

void remove_id(EmployeeClass _obj) {
    int saveId = _obj->id;
    ...
};

void remove_id(ProductClass _obj) {
    int saveId = _obj->id;
    ...
};

void remove_id(DepartmentClass _obj) {
    int saveId = _obj->id;
    ...
};

How can I change from SQL Server Windows mode to mixed mode (SQL Server 2008)?

  1. Open up SQL Server Management Studio and connect to your database server.
  2. Right Click The Database Server and click Properties.
  3. Set the Server Authentication to SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode.

Correct way to import lodash

import has from 'lodash/has'; is better because lodash holds all it's functions in a single file, so rather than import the whole 'lodash' library at 100k, it's better to just import lodash's has function which is maybe 2k.

Removing MySQL 5.7 Completely

First of all, do a backup of your needed databases with mysqldump

Note: If you want to restore later, just backup your relevant databases, and not the WHOLE, because the whole database might actually be the reason you need to purge and reinstall).

In total, do this:

sudo service mysql stop #or mysqld
sudo killall -9 mysql
sudo killall -9 mysqld
sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo deluser -f mysql
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/mysql
sudo apt-get purge mysql-server-core-5.7
sudo apt-get purge mysql-client-core-5.7
sudo rm -rf /var/log/mysql
sudo rm -rf /etc/mysql

All above commands in single line (just copy and paste):

sudo service mysql stop && sudo killall -9 mysql && sudo killall -9 mysqld && sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql-server mysql-client mysql-common && sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo deluser mysql && sudo rm -rf /var/lib/mysql && sudo apt-get purge mysql-server-core-5.7 && sudo apt-get purge mysql-client-core-5.7 && sudo rm -rf /var/log/mysql && sudo rm -rf /etc/mysql

Item frequency count in Python

words = "apple banana apple strawberry banana lemon"
w=words.split()
e=list(set(w))
word_freqs = {}
for i in e:
    word_freqs[i]=w.count(i)
print(word_freqs)

Hope this helps!

How to call shell commands from Ruby

This is not really an answer but maybe someone will find it useful:

When using TK GUI on Windows, and you need to call shell commands from rubyw, you will always have an annoying CMD window popping up for less then a second.

To avoid this you can use:

WIN32OLE.new('Shell.Application').ShellExecute('ipconfig > log.txt','','','open',0)

or

WIN32OLE.new('WScript.Shell').Run('ipconfig > log.txt',0,0)

Both will store the ipconfig output inside log.txt, but no windows will come up.

You will need to require 'win32ole' inside your script.

system(), exec() and spawn() will all pop up that annoying window when using TK and rubyw.

How to put space character into a string name in XML?

Getting the thread ID from a thread

The offset under Windows 10 is 0x022C (x64-bit-Application) and 0x0160 (x32-bit-Application):

How to select a single column with Entity Framework?

I'm a complete noob on Entity but this is how I would do it in theory...

var name = yourDbContext.MyTable.Find(1).Name;

If It's A Primary Key.

-- OR --

var name = yourDbContext.MyTable.SingleOrDefault(mytable => mytable.UserId == 1).Name;

-- OR --

For whole Column:

var names = yourDbContext.MyTable
.Where(mytable => mytable.UserId == 1)
.Select(column => column.Name); //You can '.ToList();' this....

But "oh Geez Rick, What do I know..."

Replace X-axis with own values

Yo could also set labels = FALSE inside axis(...) and print the labels in a separate command with Text. With this option you can rotate the text the text in case you need it

lablist<-as.vector(c(1:10))
axis(1, at=seq(1, 10, by=1), labels = FALSE)
text(seq(1, 10, by=1), par("usr")[3] - 0.2, labels = lablist, srt = 45, pos = 1, xpd = TRUE)

Detailed explanation here

How do I clone a generic list in C#?

For a deep clone I use reflection as follows:

public List<T> CloneList<T>(IEnumerable<T> listToClone) {
    Type listType = listToClone.GetType();
    Type elementType = listType.GetGenericArguments()[0];
    List<T> listCopy = new List<T>();
    foreach (T item in listToClone) {
        object itemCopy = Activator.CreateInstance(elementType);
        foreach (PropertyInfo property in elementType.GetProperties()) {
            elementType.GetProperty(property.Name).SetValue(itemCopy, property.GetValue(item));
        }
        listCopy.Add((T)itemCopy);
    }
    return listCopy;
}

You can use List or IEnumerable interchangeably.

SQL Server using wildcard within IN

Try this

select *
from jobdetails
where job_no between '0711' and '0713'

the only problem is that job '0713' is going to be returned as well so can use '07299999999999' or just add and job_no <> '0713'

Is there a way to provide named parameters in a function call in JavaScript?

If you want to make it clear what each of the parameters are, rather than just calling

someFunction(70, 115);

why not do the following

var width = 70, height = 115;
someFunction(width, height);

sure, it's an extra line of code, but it wins on readability.

How to make a div with a circular shape?

HTML div elements, unlike SVG circle primitives, are always rectangular.

You could use round corners (i.e. CSS border-radius) to make it look round. On square elements, a value of 50% naturally forms a circle. Use this, or even a SVG inside your HTML:

document.body.innerHTML+='<i></i>'.repeat(4);
_x000D_
i{border-radius:50%;display:inline-block;background:#F48024;}
svg {fill:#F48024;width:60px;height:60px;}
i:nth-of-type(1n){width:30px;height:30px;}
i:nth-of-type(2n){width:60px;height:60px;}

PHP: Calling another class' method

You would need to have an instance of ClassA within ClassB or have ClassB inherit ClassA

class ClassA {
    public function getName() {
      echo $this->name;
    }
}

class ClassB extends ClassA {
    public function getName() {
      parent::getName();
    }
}

Without inheritance or an instance method, you'd need ClassA to have a static method

class ClassA {
  public static function getName() {
    echo "Rawkode";
  }
}

--- other file ---

echo ClassA::getName();

If you're just looking to call the method from an instance of the class:

class ClassA {
  public function getName() {
    echo "Rawkode";
  }
}

--- other file ---

$a = new ClassA();
echo $a->getName();

Regardless of the solution you choose, require 'ClassA.php is needed.

Migration: Cannot add foreign key constraint

In my case the problem was with migration timing be careful while creating migrations firstly create the child migration than the base migration. Because if you create base migration first which have your foreign key will look for child table and there wont be table which then throw an exception.

Further more:

When you create migration it has a timestamp in the beginning of it. lets say you have created a migration cat so it will look like 2015_08_19_075954_the_cats_time.php and it has this code

<?php

use Illuminate\Database\Schema\Blueprint;
use Illuminate\Database\Migrations\Migration;

class TheCatsTime extends Migration
{
    /**
     * Run the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function up()
    {
        Schema::create('cat', function (Blueprint $table) {
            $table->increments('id');
            $table->string('name');
            $table->date('date_of_birth');
            $table->integer('breed_id')->unsigned()->nullable();
        });

        Schema::table('cat', function($table) {
        $table->foreign('breed_id')->references('id')->on('breed');
      });
    }

    /**
     * Reverse the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function down()
    {
        Schema::drop('cat');
    }
}

And after creating the base table you create another migration breed which is child table it has its own creation time and date stamp. The code will look like :

<?php

use Illuminate\Database\Schema\Blueprint;
use Illuminate\Database\Migrations\Migration;

class BreedTime extends Migration
{
    /**
     * Run the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function up()
    {
        Schema::create('breed', function (Blueprint $table) {
             $table->increments('id');
             $table->string('name');
        });
    }

    /**
     * Reverse the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function down()
    {
        Schema::drop('breed');
    }
}

it seems these both table are correct but when you run php artisan migrate. It will throw an exception because migration will first create the base table in your database because you have created this migration first and our base table has foreign key constraint in it which will look for child table and the child table doesn't exist which is probably an exception..

So:

Create child table migration first.

Create base table migration after child migration is created.

php artisan migrate.

done it will work

So, the concept of a "wildcard" in Regular Expressions works a bit differently. In order to match "any character" you would use "." The "*" modifier means, match any number of times.

How to include another XHTML in XHTML using JSF 2.0 Facelets?

<ui:include>

Most basic way is <ui:include>. The included content must be placed inside <ui:composition>.

Kickoff example of the master page /page.xhtml:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en"
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:f="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/core"
    xmlns:h="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/html"
    xmlns:ui="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/facelets">
    <h:head>
        <title>Include demo</title>
    </h:head>
    <h:body>
        <h1>Master page</h1>
        <p>Master page blah blah lorem ipsum</p>
        <ui:include src="/WEB-INF/include.xhtml" />
    </h:body>
</html>

The include page /WEB-INF/include.xhtml (yes, this is the file in its entirety, any tags outside <ui:composition> are unnecessary as they are ignored by Facelets anyway):

<ui:composition
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:f="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/core"
    xmlns:h="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/html"
    xmlns:ui="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/facelets">
    <h2>Include page</h2>
    <p>Include page blah blah lorem ipsum</p>
</ui:composition>

This needs to be opened by /page.xhtml. Do note that you don't need to repeat <html>, <h:head> and <h:body> inside the include file as that would otherwise result in invalid HTML.

You can use a dynamic EL expression in <ui:include src>. See also How to ajax-refresh dynamic include content by navigation menu? (JSF SPA).

<ui:define>/<ui:insert>

A more advanced way of including is templating. This includes basically the other way round. The master template page should use <ui:insert> to declare places to insert defined template content. The template client page which is using the master template page should use <ui:define> to define the template content which is to be inserted.

Master template page /WEB-INF/template.xhtml (as a design hint: the header, menu and footer can in turn even be <ui:include> files):

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en"
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:f="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/core"
    xmlns:h="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/html"
    xmlns:ui="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/facelets">
    <h:head>
        <title><ui:insert name="title">Default title</ui:insert></title>
    </h:head>
    <h:body>
        <div id="header">Header</div>
        <div id="menu">Menu</div>
        <div id="content"><ui:insert name="content">Default content</ui:insert></div>
        <div id="footer">Footer</div>
    </h:body>
</html>

Template client page /page.xhtml (note the template attribute; also here, this is the file in its entirety):

<ui:composition template="/WEB-INF/template.xhtml"
    xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
    xmlns:f="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/core"
    xmlns:h="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/html"
    xmlns:ui="http://xmlns.jcp.org/jsf/facelets">

    <ui:define name="title">
        New page title here
    </ui:define>

    <ui:define name="content">
        <h1>New content here</h1>
        <p>Blah blah</p>
    </ui:define>
</ui:composition>

This needs to be opened by /page.xhtml. If there is no <ui:define>, then the default content inside <ui:insert> will be displayed instead, if any.

<ui:param>

You can pass parameters to <ui:include> or <ui:composition template> by <ui:param>.

<ui:include ...>
    <ui:param name="foo" value="#{bean.foo}" />
</ui:include>
<ui:composition template="...">
    <ui:param name="foo" value="#{bean.foo}" />
    ...
</ui:composition >

Inside the include/template file, it'll be available as #{foo}. In case you need to pass "many" parameters to <ui:include>, then you'd better consider registering the include file as a tagfile, so that you can ultimately use it like so <my:tagname foo="#{bean.foo}">. See also When to use <ui:include>, tag files, composite components and/or custom components?

You can even pass whole beans, methods and parameters via <ui:param>. See also JSF 2: how to pass an action including an argument to be invoked to a Facelets sub view (using ui:include and ui:param)?

Design hints

The files which aren't supposed to be publicly accessible by just entering/guessing its URL, need to be placed in /WEB-INF folder, like as the include file and the template file in above example. See also Which XHTML files do I need to put in /WEB-INF and which not?

There doesn't need to be any markup (HTML code) outside <ui:composition> and <ui:define>. You can put any, but they will be ignored by Facelets. Putting markup in there is only useful for web designers. See also Is there a way to run a JSF page without building the whole project?

The HTML5 doctype is the recommended doctype these days, "in spite of" that it's a XHTML file. You should see XHTML as a language which allows you to produce HTML output using a XML based tool. See also Is it possible to use JSF+Facelets with HTML 4/5? and JavaServer Faces 2.2 and HTML5 support, why is XHTML still being used.

CSS/JS/image files can be included as dynamically relocatable/localized/versioned resources. See also How to reference CSS / JS / image resource in Facelets template?

You can put Facelets files in a reusable JAR file. See also Structure for multiple JSF projects with shared code.

Cancel a UIView animation?

I have the same problem; the APIs don't have anything to cancel some specific animation. The

+ (void)setAnimationsEnabled:(BOOL)enabled

disables ALL animations, and thus does not work for me. There's two solutions:

1) make your animated object a subview. Then, when you want to cancel the animations for that view, remove the view or hide it. Very simple, but you need to recreate the subview without animations if you need to keep it in view.

2) repeat the anim only one, and make a delegate selector to restart the anim if needed, like this:

-(void) startAnimation {
NSLog(@"startAnim alpha:%f", self.alpha);
[self setAlpha:1.0];
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil];
[UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0];
[UIView setAnimationRepeatCount:1];
[UIView setAnimationRepeatAutoreverses:YES];
[UIView setAnimationDelegate:self];
[UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(pulseAnimationDidStop:finished:context:)];
[self setAlpha:0.1];
[UIView commitAnimations];
}

- (void)pulseAnimationDidStop:(NSString *)animationID finished:(NSNumber *)finished context:(void *)context {
if(hasFocus) {
    [self startAnimation];
} else {
    self.alpha = 1.0;
}
}

-(void) setHasFocus:(BOOL)_hasFocus {
hasFocus = _hasFocus;
if(hasFocus) {
    [self startAnimation];
}
}

Problem with 2) is that there's always delay stopping the anim as it finishes the current animation cycle.

Hope this helps.

How do I add Git version control (Bitbucket) to an existing source code folder?

User johannes told you how to do add existing files to a Git repository in a general situation. Because you talk about Bitbucket, I suggest you do the following:

  1. Create a new repository on Bitbucket (you can see a Create button on the top of your profile page) and you will go to this page:

    Create repository on Bitbucket

  2. Fill in the form, click next and then you automatically go to this page:

    Create repository from scratch or add existing files

  3. Choose to add existing files and you go to this page:

    Enter image description here

  4. You use those commands and you upload the existing files to Bitbucket. After that, the files are online.

jQuery click / toggle between two functions

I don't think you should implement the toggle method since there is a reason why it was removed from jQuery 1.9.

Consider using toggleClass instead that is fully supported by jQuery:

function a(){...}
function b(){...}

Let's say for example that your event trigger is onclick, so:

First option:

$('#test').on('click', function (event) {

    $(this).toggleClass('toggled');

    if ($(this).hasClass('toggled')) {
        a();
    } else{
        b();
    }
}

You can also send the handler functions as parameters:

Second option:

$('#test').on('click',{handler1: a, handler2: b}, function (event) {

    $(this).toggleClass('toggled');

    if ($(this).hasClass('toggled')) {
        event.data.handler1();
    } else{
        event.data.handler2();
    }
}

How to make Java Set?

Like this:

import java.util.*;
Set<Integer> a = new HashSet<Integer>();
a.add( 1);
a.add( 2);
a.add( 3);

Or adding from an Array/ or multiple literals; wrap to a list, first.

Integer[] array = new Integer[]{ 1, 4, 5};
Set<Integer> b = new HashSet<Integer>();
b.addAll( Arrays.asList( b));         // from an array variable
b.addAll( Arrays.asList( 8, 9, 10));  // from literals

To get the intersection:

// copies all from A; then removes those not in B.
Set<Integer> r = new HashSet( a);
r.retainAll( b);
// and print;   r.toString() implied.
System.out.println("A intersect B="+r);

Hope this answer helps. Vote for it!

How can I disable a button on a jQuery UI dialog?

A button is identified by the class ui-button. To disable a button:

$("#myButton").addClass("ui-state-disabled").attr("disabled", true);

Unless you are dynamically creating the dialog (which is possible), you will know the position of the button. So, to disable the first button:

$("#myButton:eq(0)").addClass("ui-state-disabled").attr("disabled", true);

The ui-state-disabled class is what gives a button that nice dimmed style.

What does the term "canonical form" or "canonical representation" in Java mean?

Canonical Data in RDBMS, Graph Data;
Think as "Normalization" or "Normal form" of a data in a RDBMS. Same data exists in different tables, represented with a unique identifier and mapped it in different tables.
or
Think a single form of a data in Graph Database that represented in many triples.

Major benefit of it is to make Dml (Data manipulation) more efficient since you can upsert (insert/update) only one value instead of many.

Understanding the difference between Object.create() and new SomeFunction()

Here are the steps that happen internally for both calls:
(Hint: the only difference is in step 3)

new Test():

  1. create new Object() obj
  2. set obj.__proto__ to Test.prototype
  3. return Test.call(obj) || obj; // normally obj is returned but constructors in JS can return a value

Object.create( Test.prototype )

  1. create new Object() obj
  2. set obj.__proto__ to Test.prototype
  3. return obj;

So basically Object.create doesn't execute the constructor.

How to run Spyder in virtual environment?

To do without reinstalling spyder in all environments follow official reference here.

In summary (tested with conda):

  • Spyder should be installed in the base environment

From the system prompt:

  • Create an new environment. Note that depending on how you create it (conda, virtualenv) the environment folder will be located at different place on your system)

  • Activate the environment (e.g., conda activate [yourEnvName])

  • Install spyder-kernels inside the environment (e.g., conda install spyder-kernels)

  • Find and copy the path for the python executable inside the environment. Finding this path can be done using from the prompt this command python -c "import sys; print(sys.executable)"

  • Deactivate the environment (i.e., return to base conda deactivate)

  • run spyder (spyder3)

  • Finally in spyder Tool menu go to Preferences > Python Interpreter > Use the following interpreter and paste the environment python executable path

  • Restart the ipython console

PS: in spyder you should see at the bottom something like thisenter image description here

What is a mixin, and why are they useful?

I just used a python mixin to implement unit testing for python milters. Normally, a milter talks to an MTA, making unit testing difficult. The test mixin overrides methods that talk to the MTA, and create a simulated environment driven by test cases instead.

So, you take an unmodified milter application, like spfmilter, and mixin TestBase, like this:

class TestMilter(TestBase,spfmilter.spfMilter):
  def __init__(self):
    TestBase.__init__(self)
    spfmilter.config = spfmilter.Config()
    spfmilter.config.access_file = 'test/access.db'
    spfmilter.spfMilter.__init__(self)

Then, use TestMilter in the test cases for the milter application:

def testPass(self):
  milter = TestMilter()
  rc = milter.connect('mail.example.com',ip='192.0.2.1')
  self.assertEqual(rc,Milter.CONTINUE)
  rc = milter.feedMsg('test1',sender='[email protected]')
  self.assertEqual(rc,Milter.CONTINUE)
  milter.close()

In SQL, is UPDATE always faster than DELETE+INSERT?

What if you have a few million rows. Each row starts with one piece of data, perhaps a client name. As you collect data for clients, their entries must be updated. Now, let's assume that the collection of client data is distributed across numerous other machines from which it is later collected and put into the database. If each client has unique information, then you would not be able to perform a bulk update; i.e., there is no where-clause criteria for you to use to update multiple clients in one shot. On the other hand, you could perform bulk inserts. So, the question might be better posed as follows: Is it better to perform millions of single updates, or is it better to compile them into large bulk deletes and inserts. In other words, instead of "update [table] set field=data where clientid=123" a milltion times, you do 'delete from [table] where clientid in ([all clients to be updated]);insert into [table] values (data for client1), (data for client2), etc'

Is either choice better than the other, or are you screwed both ways?

CSS: styled a checkbox to look like a button, is there a hover?

it looks like you need a rule very similar to your checked rule

http://jsfiddle.net/VWBN4/3

#ck-button input:hover + span {
    background-color:#191;
    color:#fff;
}

and for hover and clicked state:

#ck-button input:checked:hover + span {
    background-color:#c11;
    color:#fff;
}

the order is important though.

Oracle "SQL Error: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 1"

I think its related with jdbc.

I have a similar problem (missing param) when I have a where condition like this:

a = :namedparameter and b = :namedparameter

It's ok, When I have like this:

a = :namedparameter and b = :namedparameter2 (the two param has the same value)

So it's a problem with named parameters. I think there is a bug around named parameter handling, it looks like if only the first parameter get the right value, the second is not set by driver classes. Maybe its not a bug, only I don't know something, but anyway I guess that's the reason for the difference between the SQL dev and the sqlplus running for you, because as far as I know SQL developer uses jdbc driver.

How can I initialize a C# List in the same line I declare it. (IEnumerable string Collection Example)

Remove the parentheses:

List<string> nameslist = new List<string> {"one", "two", "three"};

AngularJS disable partial caching on dev machine

This snippet helped me in getting rid of template caching

app.run(function($rootScope, $templateCache) {
    $rootScope.$on('$routeChangeStart', function(event, next, current) {
        if (typeof(current) !== 'undefined'){
            $templateCache.remove(current.templateUrl);
        }
    });
});

The details of following snippet can be found on this link: http://oncodesign.io/2014/02/19/safely-prevent-template-caching-in-angularjs/

pySerial write() won't take my string

I had the same "TypeError: an integer is required" error message when attempting to write. Thanks, the .encode() solved it for me. I'm running python 3.4 on a Dell D530 running 32 bit Windows XP Pro.

I'm omitting the com port settings here:

>>>import serial

>>>ser = serial.Serial(5)

>>>ser.close()

>>>ser.open()

>>>ser.write("1".encode())

1

Redirecting from cshtml page

Would be safer to do this.

@{ Response.Redirect("~/Account/LogIn?returnUrl=Products");}

So the controller for that action runs as well, to populate any model the view needs.

Source
Redirect from a view to another view

Although as @Satpal mentioned, I do recommend you do the redirecting on your controller.

Append a Lists Contents to another List C#

GlobalStrings.AddRange(localStrings);

That works.

Documentation: List<T>.AddRange(IEnumerable<T>).
