Why does git revert complain about a missing -m option?

By default git revert refuses to revert a merge commit as what that actually means is ambiguous. I presume that your HEAD is in fact a merge commit.

If you want to revert the merge commit, you have to specify which parent of the merge you want to consider to be the main trunk, i.e. what you want to revert to.

Often this will be parent number one, for example if you were on master and did git merge unwanted and then decided to revert the merge of unwanted. The first parent would be your pre-merge master branch and the second parent would be the tip of unwanted.

In this case you could do:

git revert -m 1 HEAD

How to get the selected radio button value using js

Radio buttons come in groups which have the same name and different ids, one of them will have the checked property set to true, so loop over them until you find it.

function getCheckedRadio(radio_group) {
    for (var i = 0; i < radio_group.length; i++) {
        var button = radio_group[i];
        if (button.checked) {
            return button;
        }
    }
    return undefined;
}
var checkedButton = getCheckedRadio(document.forms.frmId.elements.groupName);
if (checkedButton) {
    alert("The value is " + checkedButton.value);

How can I use tabs for indentation in IntelliJ IDEA?

To expand on @Dmitiri Algazin 's answer: settings for individual languages are overridden by the general setting

Preferences -> Code Style -> Detect and use existing file indents for editing

So if you are wondering why your new settings are being ignored after changing your settings for a specific language, there is a chance this checkbox is ticked.

As a side note; changing any default settings automamagically creates a settings profile clone (i.e. Default(1)) which I assume is in place so that the default IDE settings are never overwritten.

It is a little confusing at first, really, whether editing Default settings or Project Settings is going to have any effect on your project, since you can select Default from the drop down menu and then edit from there.

If you don't want to keep seeing random clones of Default populating your settings profiles, edit the Project Settings directly.

type checking in javascript

These days, ECMAScript 6 (ECMA-262) is "in the house". Use Number.isInteger(x) to ask the question you want to ask with respect to the type of x:

js> Number.isInteger(x)
true
js> var y = 3.1
js> Number.isInteger(y)

What is the difference between a generative and a discriminative algorithm?

Imagine your task is to classify a speech to a language.

You can do it by either:

  1. learning each language, and then classifying it using the knowledge you just gained

or

  1. determining the difference in the linguistic models without learning the languages, and then classifying the speech.

The first one is the generative approach and the second one is the discriminative approach.

How can I add a PHP page to WordPress?

If you wanted to create your own .php file and interact with WordPress without 404 headers and keeping your current permalink structure there is no need for a template file for that one page.

I found that this approach works best, in your .php file:

<?php
    require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . '/wp-config.php');
    $wp->init();
    $wp->parse_request();
    $wp->query_posts();
    $wp->register_globals();
    $wp->send_headers();

    // Your WordPress functions here...
    echo site_url();
?>

Then you can simply perform any WordPress functions after this. Also, this assumes that your .php file is within the root of your WordPress site where your wp-config.php file is located.

This, to me, is a priceless discovery as I was using require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . '/wp-blog-header.php'); for the longest time as WordPress even tells you that this is the approach that you should use to integrate WordPress functions, except, it causes 404 headers, which is weird that they would want you to use this approach. Integrating WordPress with Your Website

I know many people have answered this question, and it already has an accepted answer, but here is a nice approach for a .php file within the root of your WordPress site (or technically anywhere you want in your site), that you can browse to and load without 404 headers!

Update: There is a way to use wp-blog-header.php without 404 headers, but this requires that you add in the headers manually. Something like this will work in the root of your WordPress installation:

<?php
    require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . '/wp-blog-header.php');
    header("HTTP/1.1 200 OK");
    header("Status: 200 All rosy");

    // Your WordPress functions here...
    echo site_url();
?>

Just to update you all on this, a little less code needed for this approach, but it's up to you on which one you use.

Formatting text in a TextBlock

There are various Inline elements that can help you, for the simplest formatting options you can use Bold, Italic and Underline:

<TextBlock>
    Sample text with <Bold>bold</Bold>, <Italic>italic</Italic> and <Underline>underlined</Underline> words.
</TextBlock>

enter image description here

I think it is worth noting, that those elements are in fact just shorthands for Span elements with various properties set (i.e.: for Bold, the FontWeight property is set to FontWeights.Bold).

This brings us to our next option: the aforementioned Span element.

You can achieve the same effects with this element as above, but you are granted even more possibilities; you can set (among others) the Foreground or the Background properties:

<TextBlock>
    Sample text with <Span FontWeight="Bold">bold</Span>, <Span FontStyle="Italic">italic</Span> and <Span TextDecorations="Underline">underlined</Span> words. <Span Foreground="Blue">Coloring</Span> <Span Foreground="Red">is</Span> <Span Background="Cyan">also</Span> <Span Foreground="Silver">possible</Span>.
</TextBlock>

enter image description here

The Span element may also contain other elements like this:

<TextBlock>
    <Span FontStyle="Italic">Italic <Span Background="Yellow">text</Span> with some <Span Foreground="Blue">coloring</Span>.</Span>
</TextBlock>

enter image description here

There is another element, which is quite similar to Span, it is called Run. The Run cannot contain other inline elements while the Span can, but you can easily bind a variable to the Run's Text property:

<TextBlock>
    Username: <Run FontWeight="Bold" Text="{Binding UserName}"/>
</TextBlock>

enter image description here

Also, you can do the whole formatting from code-behind if you prefer:

TextBlock tb = new TextBlock();
tb.Inlines.Add("Sample text with ");
tb.Inlines.Add(new Run("bold") { FontWeight = FontWeights.Bold });
tb.Inlines.Add(", ");
tb.Inlines.Add(new Run("italic ") { FontStyle = FontStyles.Italic });
tb.Inlines.Add("and ");
tb.Inlines.Add(new Run("underlined") { TextDecorations = TextDecorations.Underline });
tb.Inlines.Add("words.");

How to calculate sum of a formula field in crystal Reports?

The only reason that I know of why a formula wouldn't be available to summarize on is if it didn't reference any database fields or whose value wasn't dynamic throughout sections of the report. For example, if you have a formula that returns a constant it won't be available. Or if it only references a field that is set throughout the report and returns a value based on that field, like "if {parameter}=1 then 1" would not be available either.

In general, the formula's value should not be static through the sections of the report you're summarizing over (Though the way Crystal determines this is beyond me and this doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule)

EDIT: One other reason why a formula wouldn't be available is if you're already using a summary function in that formula. Only one level of summaries at a time!

How to install mscomct2.ocx file from .cab file (Excel User Form and VBA)

You're correct that this is really painful to hand out to others, but if you have to, this is how you do it.

  1. Just extract the .ocx file from the .cab file (it is similar to a zip)
  2. Copy to the system folder (c:\windows\sysWOW64 for 64 bit systems and c:\windows\system32 for 32 bit)
  3. Use regsvr32 through the command prompt to register the file (e.g. "regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\mscomct2.ocx")

How to color System.out.println output?

Yes it is 100% possible

set classpath= %classpath%;d:\jansi-1.4.jar;

How to call javascript function from asp.net button click event

You're already prepending the hash sign in your showDialog() function, and you're missing single quotes in your second code snippet. You should also return false from the handler to prevent a postback from occurring. Try:

    init

Chrome DevTools Devices does not detect device when plugged in

I am new to app programming and this was the first problem I ran into when I tried to get a sample program debug using my LG G3 device. The post above with detailed instructions should work for all. I am adding my experience in case it helps other:

I had followed instructions step by step but one. That is, installing the USB driver from my OEM. My phone kept notifying that the debugging is on (in the notification area) and I could transfer data as well as charge. That made me think that appropriate USB drivers are installed. But it wasn't. Finally I went to LG site and downloaded the USB driver for my LG G3. Right after I installed the driver and reconnected the phone to the computer via the cable, I got the RSA key prompt. My Chrome now detects it and I was able to get my app run on my phone via Android studio as well.

How to test the type of a thrown exception in Jest

From my (albeit limited) exposure to Jest, I have found that expect().toThrow() is suitable if you want to only test an error is thrown of a specific type:

expect(() => functionUnderTest()).toThrow(TypeError);

Or an error is thrown with a specific message:

expect(() => functionUnderTest()).toThrow('Something bad happened!');

If you try to do both, you will get a false positive. For example, if your code throws RangeError('Something bad happened!'), this test will pass:

expect(() => functionUnderTest()).toThrow(new TypeError('Something bad happened!'));

The answer by bodolsog which suggests using a try/catch is close, but rather than expecting true to be false to ensure the expect assertions in the catch are hit, you can instead use expect.assertions(2) at the start of your test where 2 is the number of expected assertions. I feel this more accurately describes the intention of the test.

A full example of testing the type and message of an error:

describe('functionUnderTest', () => {
    it('should throw a specific type of error.', () => {
        expect.assertions(2);

        try {
            functionUnderTest();
        } catch (error) {
            expect(error).toBeInstanceOf(TypeError);
            expect(error).toHaveProperty('message', 'Something bad happened!');
        }
    });
});

If functionUnderTest() does not throw an error, the assertions will be be hit, but the expect.assertions(2) will fail and the test will fail.

Html.RenderPartial() syntax with Razor

  • RenderPartial() is a void method that writes to the response stream. A void method, in C#, needs a ; and hence must be enclosed by { }.

  • Partial() is a method that returns an MvcHtmlString. In Razor, You can call a property or a method that returns such a string with just a @ prefix to distinguish it from plain HTML you have on the page.

keycode and charcode

Handling key events consistently is not at all easy.

Firstly, there are two different types of codes: keyboard codes (a number representing the key on the keyboard the user pressed) and character codes (a number representing a Unicode character). You can only reliably get character codes in the keypress event. Do not try to get character codes for keyup and keydown events.

Secondly, you get different sets of values in a keypress event to what you get in a keyup or keydown event.

I recommend this page as a useful resource. As a summary:

If you're interested in detecting a user typing a character, use the keypress event. IE bizarrely only stores the character code in keyCode while all other browsers store it in which. Some (but not all) browsers also store it in charCode and/or keyCode. An example keypress handler:

function(evt) {
  evt = evt || window.event;
  var charCode = evt.which || evt.keyCode;
  var charStr = String.fromCharCode(charCode);
  alert(charStr);
}

If you're interested in detecting a non-printable key (such as a cursor key), use the keydown event. Here keyCode is always the property to use. Note that keyup events have the same properties.

function(evt) {
  evt = evt || window.event;
  var keyCode = evt.keyCode;

  // Check for left arrow key
  if (keyCode == 37) {
    alert("Left arrow");
  }
}

  '@angular/router';
import { CookieService } from 'ngx-cookie-service';
import { environment } from '../../../environments/environment.prod';

      let uri = window.location.origin + '/#' + state.url;
      this.returnUrl = encodeURIComponent(uri);
      window.location.href = environment.ssoPath +  this.returnUrl ;
      return false;

Example

Create temp folder:

mkdir temp

switch to temp folder

cd temp/

clone the same project in the temp folder:

git clone [-b branchName] git@path_to_your_git_repository

copy .git folder to your projet:

cp -R .git/ path/to/your/project/

switch to your project and run git status

delete the temp folder if your are finished.

How do you clear the focus in javascript?

None of the answers provided here are completely correct when using TypeScript, as you may not know the kind of element that is selected.

This would therefore be preferred:

if (document.activeElement instanceof HTMLElement)
    document.activeElement.blur();

I would furthermore discourage using the solution provided in the accepted answer, as the resulting blurring is not part of the official spec, and could break at any moment.

How much memory can a 32 bit process access on a 64 bit operating system?

You've got the same basic restriction when running a 32bit process under Win64. Your app runs in a 32 but subsystem which does its best to look like Win32, and this will include the memory restrictions for your process (lower 2GB for you, upper 2GB for the OS)

Java naming convention for static final variables

These variables are constants, i.e. private static final whether they're named in all caps or not. The all-caps convention simply makes it more obvious that these variables are meant to be constants, but it isn't required. I've seen

private static final Logger log = Logger.getLogger(MyClass.class);

in lowercase before, and I'm fine with it because I know to only use the logger to log messages, but it does violate the convention. You could argue that naming it log is a sub-convention, I suppose. But in general, naming constants in uppercase isn't the One Right Way, but it is The Best Way.

String replace a Backslash

This will replace backslashes with forward slashes in the string:

source = source.replace('\\','/');

using javascript to detect whether the url exists before display in iframe

Use a XHR and see if it responds you a 404 or not.

var request = new XMLHttpRequest();
request.open('GET', 'http://www.mozilla.org', true);
request.onreadystatechange = function(){
    if (request.readyState === 4){
        if (request.status === 404) {
            alert("Oh no, it does not exist!");
        }
    }
};
request.send();

But notice that it will only work on the same origin. For another host, you will have to use a server-side language to do that, which you will have to figure it out by yourself.

python: after installing anaconda, how to import pandas

What worked for me, on my Mac at least, was that I opened PyCharm system preferences, then chose my project on the left side. I clicked on Program Interpreter and looked in the list to see that pandas was not installed. I simply chose it from the list on the right (using the search at the top). I clicked the install package and this resolved the issue.

In my case it was trying to call JSON.parse() on an AJAX variable before the XHRResponse came back. EG:

var response = $.get(URL that returns a valid JSON string);
var data = JSON.parse(response.responseText);

I replaced that with an example out of the jQuery site for $.get:

//insert code to assign the projects from Jira to a div.
                jqxhr = jqxhr.responseJSON;
                console.log(jqxhr);
                var div = document.getElementById("products");
                for (i = 0; i < jqxhr.length; i++) {
                    console.log(jqxhr[i].name);
                    div.innerHTML += "<b>Product: " + jqxhr[i].name + "</b><BR/>Key: " + jqxhr[i].key + "<BR/>";
                }

            alert( "error" );
          })
          .always(function() {
            alert( "finished" );
          });

Select NOT IN multiple columns

Another mysteriously unknown RDBMS. Your Syntax is perfectly fine in PostgreSQL. Other query styles may perform faster (especially the NOT EXISTS variant or a LEFT JOIN), but your query is perfectly legit.

Be aware of pitfalls with NOT IN, though, when involving any NULL values:

Variant with LEFT JOIN:

SELECT *
FROM   friend f
LEFT   JOIN likes l USING (id1, id2)
WHERE  l.id1 IS NULL;

See @Michal's answer for the NOT EXISTS variant.

Converting an int to std::string

The following macro is not quite as compact as a single-use ostringstream or boost::lexical_cast.

But if you need conversion-to-string repeatedly in your code, this macro is more elegant in use than directly handling stringstreams or explicit casting every time.

It is also very versatile, as it converts everything supported by operator<<(), even in combination.

            ( std::ostringstream() << std::dec << x ) ).str()

Explanation:

The std::dec is a side-effect-free way to make the anonymous ostringstream into a generic ostream so operator<<() function lookup works correctly for all types. (You get into trouble otherwise if the first argument is a pointer type.)

The dynamic_cast returns the type back to ostringstream so you can call str() on it.

Use:

#include <string>

int main()
{
    int i = 42;
    std::string s1 = SSTR( i );

    int x = 23;
    std::string s2 = SSTR( "i: " << i << ", x: " << x );
    return 0;
}

How do I write a SQL query for a specific date range and date time using SQL Server 2008?

How about this?

SELECT Value, ReadTime, ReadDate
FROM YOURTABLE
WHERE CAST(ReadDate AS DATETIME) + ReadTime BETWEEN '2010-09-16 17:00:00' AND '2010-09-21 09:00:00'

EDIT: output according to OP's wishes ;-)

Appending to an empty DataFrame in Pandas?

You can concat the data in this way:

InfoDF = pd.DataFrame()
tempDF = pd.DataFrame(rows,columns=['id','min_date'])

InfoDF = pd.concat([InfoDF,tempDF])

getContext is not a function

Alternatively you can use:

this.element=$(id)[0];

How to get equal width of input and select fields

Problems with local variable scope. How to solve it?

not Error:

JSONObject json1 = getJsonX();

Error:

JSONObject json2 = null;
if(x == y)
   json2 = getJSONX();

Error: Local variable statement defined in an enclosing scope must be final or effectively final.

But you can write:

JSONObject json2 = (x == y) ? json2 = getJSONX() : null;

What is going wrong when Visual Studio tells me "xcopy exited with code 4"

Switch the watch tab to the "ouput" and look for the xcopy command. Sometimes here you find some more message ( the actual xcopy output ) that could help you to solve the issue. If you don't see the output tab, use View-Output menu to show it.

Call a REST API in PHP

If you are open to use third party tools you'd have a look at this one: https://github.com/CircleOfNice/DoctrineRestDriver

This is a completely new way to work with APIs.

First of all you define an entity which is defining the structure of incoming and outcoming data and annotate it with datasources:

/*
 * @Entity
 * @DataSource\Select("http://www.myApi.com/products/{id}")
 * @DataSource\Insert("http://www.myApi.com/products")
 * @DataSource\Select("http://www.myApi.com/products/update/{id}")
 * @DataSource\Fetch("http://www.myApi.com/products")
 * @DataSource\Delete("http://www.myApi.com/products/delete/{id}")
 */
class Product {
    private $name;

    public function setName($name) {
        $this->name = $name;
    }

    public function getName() {
        return $this->name;
    }
}

Now it's pretty easy to communicate with the REST API:

$product = new Product();
$product->setName('test');
// sends an API request POST http://www.myApi.com/products ...
$em->persist($product);
$em->flush();

$product->setName('newName');
// sends an API request UPDATE http://www.myApi.com/products/update/1 ...
$em->flush();

Display a message in Visual Studio's output window when not debug mode?

This whole thread confused the h#$l out of me until I realized you have to be running the debugger to see ANY trace or debug output. I needed a debug output (outside of the debugger) because my WebApp runs fine when I debug it but not when the debugger isn't running (SqlDataSource is instantiated correctly when running through the debugger).

Just because debug output can be seen when you're running in release mode doesn't mean you'll see anything if you're not running the debugger. Careful reading of Writing to output window of Visual Studio? gave me DebugView as an alternative. Extremely useful!

Hopefully this helps anyone else confused by this.

curl -GET and -X GET

By default you use curl without explicitly saying which request method to use. If you just pass in a HTTP URL like curl http://example.com it will use GET. If you use -d or -F curl will use POST, -I will cause a HEAD and -T will make it a PUT.

If for whatever reason you're not happy with these default choices that curl does for you, you can override those request methods by specifying -X [WHATEVER]. This way you can for example send a DELETE by doing curl -X DELETE [URL].

It is thus pointless to do curl -X GET [URL] as GET would be used anyway. In the same vein it is pointless to do curl -X POST -d data [URL]... But you can make a fun and somewhat rare request that sends a request-body in a GET request with something like curl -X GET -d data [URL].

Digging deeper

curl -GET (using a single dash) is just wrong for this purpose. That's the equivalent of specifying the -G, -E and -T options and that will do something completely different.

There's also a curl option called --get to not confuse matters with either. It is the long form of -G, which is used to convert data specified with -d into a GET request instead of a POST.

(I subsequently used my own answer here to populate the curl FAQ to cover this.)

Warnings

Modern versions of curl will inform users about this unnecessary and potentially harmful use of -X when verbose mode is enabled (-v) - to make users aware. Further explained and motivated in this blog post.

-G converts a POST + body to a GET + query

You can ask curl to convert a set of -d options and instead of sending them in the request body with POST, put them at the end of the URL's query string and issue a GET, with the use of `-G. Like this:

curl -d name=daniel -d grumpy=yes -G https://example.com/

Prevent wrapping of span or div

As mentioned you can use:

overflow: scroll;

If you only want the scroll bar to appear when necessary, you can use the "auto" option:

overflow: auto;

I don't think you should be using the "float" property with "overflow", but I'd have to try out your example first.

Android Studio : unmappable character for encoding UTF-8

If above answeres did not work, then you can try my answer because it worked for me.
Here's what worked for me.

  1. Close Android Studio
  2. Go to C:\Usersyour username
  3. Locate the Android Studio settings directory named .AndroidStudioX.X (X.X being the version)
  4. C:\Users\my_user_name.AndroidStudio4.0\system\caches
  5. Delete the caches folder and open android studio

This should fix the issue.

Fixed height and width for bootstrap carousel

Because some images could have less than 500px of height, it's better to keep the auto-adjust, so i recommend the following:

<div class="carousel-inner" role="listbox" style="max-width:900px; max-height:600px !important;">`

Add tooltip to font awesome icon

Simply with native html & css :

<div class="tooltip">Hover over me
  <span class="tooltiptext">Tooltip text</span>

  display: inline-block;
  border-bottom: 1px dotted black; /* If you want dots under the hoverable text */
}

/* Tooltip text */
.tooltip .tooltiptext {
  visibility: hidden;
  width: 120px;
  background-color: #555;
  color: #fff;
  text-align: center;
  padding: 5px 0;
  border-radius: 6px;

  /* Position the tooltip text */
  position: absolute;
  z-index: 1;
  bottom: 125%;
  left: 50%;
  margin-left: -60px;

/* Tooltip arrow */
.tooltip .tooltiptext::after {
  content: "";

  top: 100%;
  left: 50%;
  margin-left: -5px;
  border-width: 5px;
  border-style: solid;
  border-color: #555 transparent transparent transparent;

Create XML in Javascript

Only works in IE

 $(function(){

        var xml = '<?xml version="1.0"?><foo><bar>bar</bar></foo>';

        var xmlDoc=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM");
        xmlDoc.async="false";
        xmlDoc.loadXML(xml);

        alert(xmlDoc.xml);

    });

Then push xmlDoc.xml to your java code.

Complexities of binary tree traversals

In-order, Pre-order, and Post-order traversals are Depth-First traversals.

For a Graph, the complexity of a Depth First Traversal is O(n + m), where n is the number of nodes, and m is the number of edges.

Since a Binary Tree is also a Graph, the same applies here. The complexity of each of these Depth-first traversals is O(n+m).

Since the number of edges that can originate from a node is limited to 2 in the case of a Binary Tree, the maximum number of total edges in a Binary Tree is n-1, where n is the total number of nodes.

The complexity then becomes O(n + n-1), which is O(n).

In fact, xargs can run commands in parallel for you. There is a special -P max_procs command-line option for that. See man xargs.

I'm surprised that nobody seems to have ever mentioned that you can use XDocument / XElement which are available in .NET 4.0 and make it much easier to output XML.

How to declare a global variable in JavaScript

The best way is to use closures, because the window object gets very, very cluttered with properties.

HTML

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="init.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
      MYLIBRARY.init(["firstValue", 2, "thirdValue"]);
    </script>
    <script src="script.js"></script>
  </head>

  <body>
    <h1>Hello !</h1>
  </body>
</html>

init.js (based on this answer)

var MYLIBRARY = MYLIBRARY || (function(){
    var _args = {}; // Private

    return {
        init : function(Args) {
            _args = Args;
            // Some other initialising
        },
        helloWorld : function(i) {
            return _args[i];
        }
    };
}());

script.js

// Here you can use the values defined in the HTML content as if it were a global variable
var a = "Hello World " + MYLIBRARY.helloWorld(2);

alert(a);

Here's the plnkr. Hope it help !

How to restore SQL Server 2014 backup in SQL Server 2008

open() in Python does not create a file if it doesn't exist

For Python 3+, I will do:

import os

os.makedirs('path/to/the/directory', exist_ok=True)

with open('path/to/the/directory/filename', 'w') as f:
    f.write(...)

So, the problem is with open cannot create a file before the target directory exists. We need to create it and then w mode is enough in this case.

Opacity of background-color, but not the text

I've created that effect on my blog Landman Code.

What I did was

_x000D_
_x000D_
#Header {
  position: relative;
}
#Header H1 {
  font-size: 3em;
  color: #00FF00;
  margin:0;
  padding:0;
}
#Header H2 {
  font-size: 1.5em;
  color: #FFFF00;
  margin:0;
  padding:0;
}
#Header .Background {
  background: #557700;
  filter: alpha(opacity=30);
  filter: progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity=30);
  -moz-opacity: 0.30;
  opacity: 0.3;
  zoom: 1;
}
#Header .Background * {
  visibility: hidden; // hide the faded text
}
#Header .Foreground {
  position: absolute; // position on top of the background div
  left: 0;
  top: 0;
}
_x000D_
<div id="Header">
  <div class="Background">
    <h1>Title</h1>
    <h2>Subtitle</h2>
  </div>
  <div class="Foreground">
    <h1>Title</h1>
    <h2>Subtitle</h2>
  </div>
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

The important thing that every padding/margin and content must be the same in both the .Background as .Foreground.

How can I get javascript to read from a .json file?

Actually, you are looking for the AJAX CALL, in which you will replace the URL parameter value with the link of the JSON file to get the JSON values.

$.ajax({
    url: "File.json", //the path of the file is replaced by File.json
    dataType: "json",
    success: function (response) {
        console.log(response); //it will return the json array
    }
});

PHP Function with Optional Parameters

If only two values are required to create the object with a valid state, you could simply remove all the other optional arguments and provide setters for them (unless you dont want them to changed at runtime). Then just instantiate the object with the two required arguments and set the others as needed through the setter.

Android design support library for API 28 (P) not working

Note: You should not use the com.android.support and com.google.android.material dependencies in your app at the same time.

Add Material Components for Android in your build.gradle(app) file

dependencies {
    // ...
    implementation 'com.google.android.material:material:1.0.0-beta01'

If your app currently depends on the original Design Support Library, you can make use of the Refactor to AndroidX… option provided by Android Studio. Doing so will update your app’s dependencies and code to use the newly packaged androidx and com.google.android.material libraries.

If you don’t want to switch over to the new androidx and com.google.android.material packages yet, you can use Material Components via the com.android.support:design:28.0.0-alpha3 dependency.

Find (and kill) process locking port 3000 on Mac

TL;DR:

lsof -ti tcp:3000 -sTCP:LISTEN | xargs kill

If you're in a situation where there are both clients and servers using the port, e.g.:

$ lsof -i tcp:3000
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
node       2043 benjiegillam   21u  IPv4 0xb1b4330c68e5ad61      0t0  TCP localhost:3000->localhost:52557 (ESTABLISHED)
node       2043 benjiegillam   22u  IPv4 0xb1b4330c8d393021      0t0  TCP localhost:3000->localhost:52344 (ESTABLISHED)
node       2043 benjiegillam   25u  IPv4 0xb1b4330c8eaf16c1      0t0  TCP localhost:3000 (LISTEN)
Google    99004 benjiegillam  125u  IPv4 0xb1b4330c8bb05021      0t0  TCP localhost:52557->localhost:3000 (ESTABLISHED)
Google    99004 benjiegillam  216u  IPv4 0xb1b4330c8e5ea6c1      0t0  TCP localhost:52344->localhost:3000 (ESTABLISHED)

then you probably don't want to kill both.

In this situation you can use -sTCP:LISTEN to only show the pid of processes that are listening. Combining this with the -t terse format you can automatically kill the process:

lsof -ti tcp:3000 -sTCP:LISTEN | xargs kill

var anchor = '<a data-product=\'' + quoteReplaced + '\' href=\'#\'>' + productObject.name + '</a>';
// Here you can use the "anchor" variable to update your DOM element.

Create a list with initial capacity in Python

As others have mentioned, the simplest way to preseed a list is with NoneType objects.

That being said, you should understand the way Python lists actually work before deciding this is necessary.

In the CPython implementation of a list, the underlying array is always created with overhead room, in progressively larger sizes ( 4, 8, 16, 25, 35, 46, 58, 72, 88, 106, 126, 148, 173, 201, 233, 269, 309, 354, 405, 462, 526, 598, 679, 771, 874, 990, 1120, etc), so that resizing the list does not happen nearly so often.

Because of this behavior, most list.append() functions are O(1) complexity for appends, only having increased complexity when crossing one of these boundaries, at which point the complexity will be O(n). This behavior is what leads to the minimal increase in execution time in S.Lott's answer.

How can I convert a DateTime to the number of seconds since 1970?

That approach will be good if the date-time in question is in UTC, or represents local time in an area that has never observed daylight saving time. The DateTime difference routines do not take into account Daylight Saving Time, and consequently will regard midnight June 1 as being a multiple of 24 hours after midnight January 1. I'm unaware of anything in Windows that reports historical daylight-saving rules for the current locale, so I don't think there's any good way to correctly handle any time prior to the most recent daylight-saving rule change.

glm rotate usage in Opengl

You need to multiply your Model matrix. Because that is where model position, scaling and rotation should be (that's why it's called the model matrix).

All you need to do is (see here)

Model = glm::rotate(Model, angle_in_radians, glm::vec3(x, y, z)); // where x, y, z is axis of rotation (e.g. 0 1 0)

Note that to convert from degrees to radians, use glm::radians(degrees)

That takes the Model matrix and applies rotation on top of all the operations that are already in there. The other functions translate and scale do the same. That way it's possible to combine many transformations in a single matrix.

note: earlier versions accepted angles in degrees. This is deprecated since 0.9.6

Model = glm::rotate(Model, angle_in_degrees, glm::vec3(x, y, z)); // where x, y, z is axis of rotation (e.g. 0 1 0)

Dynamic type languages versus static type languages

Well, both are very, very very very misunderstood and also two completely different things. that aren't mutually exclusive.

Static types are a restriction of the grammar of the language. Statically typed languages strictly could be said to not be context free. The simple truth is that it becomes inconvenient to express a language sanely in context free grammars that doesn't treat all its data simply as bit vectors. Static type systems are part of the grammar of the language if any, they simply restrict it more than a context free grammar could, grammatical checks thus happen in two passes over the source really. Static types correspond to the mathematical notion of type theory, type theory in mathematics simply restricts the legality of some expressions. Like, I can't say 3 + [4,7] in maths, this is because of the type theory of it.

Static types are thus not a way to 'prevent errors' from a theoretical perspective, they are a limitation of the grammar. Indeed, provided that +, 3 and intervals have the usual set theoretical definitions, if we remove the type system 3 + [4,7]has a pretty well defined result that's a set. 'runtime type errors' theoretically do not exist, the type system's practical use is to prevent operations that to human beings would make no sense. Operations are still just the shifting and manipulation of bits of course.

The catch to this is that a type system can't decide if such operations are going to occur or not if it would be allowed to run. As in, exactly partition the set of all possible programs in those that are going to have a 'type error', and those that aren't. It can do only two things:

1: prove that type errors are going to occur in a program
2: prove that they aren't going to occur in a program

This might seem like I'm contradicting myself. But what a C or Java type checker does is it rejects a program as 'ungrammatical', or as it calls it 'type error' if it can't succeed at 2. It can't prove they aren't going to occur, that doesn't mean that they aren't going to occur, it just means it can't prove it. It might very well be that a program which will not have a type error is rejected simply because it can't be proven by the compiler. A simple example being if(1) a = 3; else a = "string";, surely since it's always true, the else-branch will never be executed in the program, and no type error shall occur. But it can't prove these cases in a general way, so it's rejected. This is the major weakness of a lot of statically typed languages, in protecting you against yourself, you're necessarily also protected in cases you don't need it.

But, contrary to popular believe, there are also statically typed languages that work by principle 1. They simply reject all programs of which they can prove it's going to cause a type error, and pass all programs of which they can't. So it's possible they allow programs which have type errors in them, a good example being Typed Racket, it's hybrid between dynamic and static typing. And some would argue that you get the best of both worlds in this system.

Another advantage of static typing is that types are known at compile time, and thus the compiler can use this. If we in Java do "string" + "string" or 3 + 3, both + tokens in text in the end represent a completely different operation and datum, the compiler knows which to choose from the types alone.

Now, I'm going to make a very controversial statement here but bear with me: 'dynamic typing' does not exist.

Sounds very controversial, but it's true, dynamically typed languages are from a theoretical perspective untyped. They are just statically typed languages with only one type. Or simply put, they are languages that are indeed grammatically generated by a context free grammar in practice.

Why don't they have types? Because every operation is defined and allowed on every operant, what's a 'runtime type error' exactly? It's from a theoretical example purely a side-effect. If doing print("string") which prints a string is an operation, then so is length(3), the former has the side effect of writing string to the standard output, the latter simply error: function 'length' expects array as argument., that's it. There is from a theoretical perspective no such thing as a dynamically typed language. They are untyped

All right, the obvious advantage of 'dynamically typed' language is expressive power, a type system is nothing but a limitation of expressive power. And in general, languages with a type system indeed would have a defined result for all those operations that are not allowed if the type system was just ignored, the results would just not make sense to humans. Many languages lose their Turing completeness after applying a type system.

The obvious disadvantage is the fact that operations can occur which would produce results which are nonsensical to humans. To guard against this, dynamically typed languages typically redefine those operations, rather than producing that nonsensical result they redefine it to having the side effect of writing out an error, and possibly halting the program altogether. This is not an 'error' at all, in fact, the language specification usually implies this, this is as much behaviour of the language as printing a string from a theoretical perspective. Type systems thus force the programmer to reason about the flow of the code to make sure that this doesn't happen. Or indeed, reason so that it does happen can also be handy in some points for debugging, showing that it's not an 'error' at all but a well defined property of the language. In effect, the single remnant of 'dynamic typing' that most languages have is guarding against a division by zero. This is what dynamic typing is, there are no types, there are no more types than that zero is a different type than all the other numbers. What people call a 'type' is just another property of a datum, like the length of an array, or the first character of a string. And many dynamically typed languages also allow you to write out things like "error: the first character of this string should be a 'z'".

Another thing is that dynamically typed languages have the type available at runtime and usually can check it and deal with it and decide from it. Of course, in theory it's no different than accessing the first char of an array and seeing what it is. In fact, you can make your own dynamic C, just use only one type like long long int and use the first 8 bits of it to store your 'type' in and write functions accordingly that check for it and perform float or integer addition. You have a statically typed language with one type, or a dynamic language.

In practise this all shows, statically typed languages are generally used in the context of writing commercial software, whereas dynamically typed languages tend to be used in the context of solving some problems and automating some tasks. Writing code in statically typed languages simply takes long and is cumbersome because you can't do things which you know are going to turn out okay but the type system still protects you against yourself for errors you don't make. Many coders don't even realize that they do this because it's in their system but when you code in static languages, you often work around the fact that the type system won't let you do things that can't go wrong, because it can't prove it won't go wrong.

As I noted, 'statically typed' in general means case 2, guilty until proven innocent. But some languages, which do not derive their type system from type theory at all use rule 1: Innocent until proven guilty, which might be the ideal hybrid. So, maybe Typed Racket is for you.

Also, well, for a more absurd and extreme example, I'm currently implementing a language where 'types' are truly the first character of an array, they are data, data of the 'type', 'type', which is itself a type and datum, the only datum which has itself as a type. Types are not finite or bounded statically but new types may be generated based on runtime information.

Date format in the json output using spring boot

If you want to change the format for all dates you can add a builder customizer. Here is an example of a bean that converts dates to ISO 8601:

@Bean
public Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilderCustomizer jsonCustomizer() {
    return new Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilderCustomizer() {
        @Override
        public void customize(Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilder builder) {
            builder.dateFormat(new ISO8601DateFormat());
        }
    };
}

CORS error :Request header field Authorization is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Headers in preflight response

This is an API issue, you won't get this error if using Postman/Fielder to send HTTP requests to API. In case of browsers, for security purpose, they always send OPTIONS request/preflight to API before sending the actual requests (GET/POST/PUT/DELETE). Therefore, in case, the request method is OPTION, not only you need to add "Authorization" into "Access-Control-Allow-Headers", but you need to add "OPTIONS" into "Access-Control-allow-methods" as well. This was how I fixed:

if (context.Request.Method == "OPTIONS")
        {
            context.Response.Headers.Add("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", new[] { (string)context.Request.Headers["Origin"] });
            context.Response.Headers.Add("Access-Control-Allow-Headers", new[] { "Origin, X-Requested-With, Content-Type, Accept, Authorization" });
            context.Response.Headers.Add("Access-Control-Allow-Methods", new[] { "GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, OPTIONS" });
            context.Response.Headers.Add("Access-Control-Allow-Credentials", new[] { "true" });

        }

Send raw ZPL to Zebra printer via USB

Found amazing simple solution - working for Chrome (Windows, not tested on Mac)

Zebra ZP 450

  1. Go here Zebra Generic Text
  2. Go precisely by the manual
  3. No COM1 or any other ports needed - USB is enough
  4. When done (named the printer ZTEXT), does not matter if it won't print a test page
  5. Turn of Spooling and enable direct printing in Printer Preferences - 1 note here 1 printer is ZP450 CPT and other ZP450 only - on the other one I do not even need to turn off spooling and it worked.
  6. Go to Chrome and printing ZPL from there with Chrome Print Dialog Box by selecting the ZTEXT printer (Generic / Text) Printer (Do not choose Windows Dialog Box) - we needed this for Chrome to be working

How do I escape a reserved word in Oracle?

Oracle normally requires double-quotes to delimit the name of identifiers in SQL statements, e.g.

SELECT "MyColumn" AS "MyColAlias"
FROM "MyTable" "Alias"
WHERE "ThisCol" = 'That Value';

However, it graciously allows omitting the double-quotes, in which case it quietly converts the identifier to uppercase:

SELECT MyColumn AS MyColAlias
FROM MyTable Alias
WHERE ThisCol = 'That Value';

gets internally converted to something like:

SELECT "ALIAS" . "MYCOLUMN" AS "MYCOLALIAS"
FROM "THEUSER" . "MYTABLE" "ALIAS"
WHERE "ALIAS" . "THISCOL" = 'That Value';

C++ program converts fahrenheit to celsius

The answer has already been found although I would also like to share my answer:

int main(void)
{
using namespace std;

short tempC;
cout << "Please enter a Celsius value: ";
cin >> tempC;
double tempF = convert(tempC);
cout << tempC << " degrees Celsius is " << tempF << " degrees Fahrenheit." << endl;
cin.get();
cin.get();
return 0;

}

int convert(short nT)
{
return nT * 1.8 + 32;
}

This is a more proper way to do this; however, it is slightly more complex then what you were going for.

How to unset a JavaScript variable?

You cannot delete a variable if you declared it (with var x;) at the time of first use. However, if your variable x first appeared in the script without a declaration, then you can use the delete operator (delete x;) and your variable will be deleted, very similar to deleting an element of an array or deleting a property of an object.

I'm agree with Vicente Plata you should try using jQuery IMHO is the best javascript library. You can create a class in your CSS file and just do the following with jquery:

and that's all, and of course you won't be worried about incompatibility of the browsers, that's jquery's team problem :D LOL

How to bind DataTable to Datagrid

I'm expecting, as Rohit Vats mentioned in his Comment too, that you have a wrong structure in your DataTable.

Try something like this:

  var t = new DataTable();

  // create column header
  foreach ( string s in identifiders ) {
    t.Columns.Add(new DataColumn(s)); // <<=== i'm expecting you don't have defined any DataColumns, haven't you?
  }

  // Add data to DataTable
  for ( int lineNumber = identifierLineNumber; lineNumber < lineCount; lineNumber++ ) {
    DataRow newRow = t.NewRow();
    for ( int column = 0; column < identifierCount; column++ ) {
      newRow[column] = fileContent.ElementAt(lineNumber)[column];
    }
    t.Rows.Add(newRow);
  }

  return t.DefaultView;

I have used this DataTable in a ValueConverter and it works like a charm with the following binding.

xaml:

 <DataGrid AutoGenerateColumns="True" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=FileContent, Converter={StaticResource dataGridConverter}}" />

So what it does, the ValueConverter transforms my bounded data (what ever it is, in my case it's a List<string[]>) into a DataTable, as the code above shows, and passes this DataTable to the DataGrid. With specified data columns the data grid can generate the needed columns and visualize them.

To say it in a nutshell, in my case the binding to a DataTable works like a charm.

Is there a way to detect if an image is blurry?

Yes, it is. Compute the Fast Fourier Transform and analyse the result. The Fourier transform tells you which frequencies are present in the image. If there is a low amount of high frequencies, then the image is blurry.

Defining the terms 'low' and 'high' is up to you.

Edit:

As stated in the comments, if you want a single float representing the blurryness of a given image, you have to work out a suitable metric.

nikie's answer provide such a metric. Convolve the image with a Laplacian kernel:

   1
1 -4  1
   1

And use a robust maximum metric on the output to get a number which you can use for thresholding. Try to avoid smoothing too much the images before computing the Laplacian, because you will only find out that a smoothed image is indeed blurry :-).

Creating an abstract class in Objective-C

Typically, Objective-C class are abstract by convention only—if the author documents a class as abstract, just don't use it without subclassing it. There is no compile-time enforcement that prevents instantiation of an abstract class, however. In fact, there is nothing to stop a user from providing implementations of abstract methods via a category (i.e. at runtime). You can force a user to at least override certain methods by raising an exception in those methods implementation in your abstract class:

[NSException raise:NSInternalInconsistencyException
            format:@"You must override %@ in a subclass", NSStringFromSelector(_cmd)];

If your method returns a value, it's a bit easier to use

@throw [NSException exceptionWithName:NSInternalInconsistencyException
                               reason:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"You must override %@ in a subclass", NSStringFromSelector(_cmd)]
                             userInfo:nil];

as then you don't need to add a return statement from the method.

If the abstract class is really an interface (i.e. has no concrete method implementations), using an Objective-C protocol is the more appropriate option.

What is the difference between FragmentPagerAdapter and FragmentStatePagerAdapter?

FragmentPagerAdapter: the fragment of each page the user visits will be stored in memory, although the view will be destroyed. So when the page is visible again, the view will be recreated but the fragment instance is not recreated. This can result in a significant amount of memory being used. FragmentPagerAdapter should be used when we need to store the whole fragment in memory. FragmentPagerAdapter calls detach(Fragment) on the transaction instead of remove(Fragment).

FragmentStatePagerAdapter: the fragment instance is destroyed when it is not visible to the User, except the saved state of the fragment. This results in using only a small amount of Memory and can be useful for handling larger data sets. Should be used when we have to use dynamic fragments, like fragments with widgets, as their data could be stored in the savedInstanceState.Also it won’t affect the performance even if there are large number of fragments.

What is the bit size of long on 64-bit Windows?

This article on MSDN references a number of type aliases (available on Windows) that are a bit more explicit with respect to their width:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa505945.aspx

For instance, although you can use ULONGLONG to reference a 64-bit unsigned integral value, you can also use UINT64. (The same goes for ULONG and UINT32.) Perhaps these will be a bit clearer?

Error related to only_full_group_by when executing a query in MySql

I will try to explain you what this error is about.
Starting from MySQL 5.7.5, option ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY is enabled by default.
Thus, according to standart SQL92 and earlier:

does not permit queries for which the select list, HAVING condition, or ORDER BY list refer to nonaggregated columns that are neither named in the GROUP BY clause nor are functionally dependent on (uniquely determined by) GROUP BY columns

(read more in docs)

So, for example:

SELECT * FROM `users` GROUP BY `name`;

You will get error message after executing query above.

#1055 - Expression #1 of SELECT list is not in GROUP BY clause and contains nonaggregated column 'testsite.user.id' which is not functionally dependent on columns in GROUP BY clause; this is incompatible with sql_mode=only_full_group_by

Why?
Because MySQL dont exactly understand, what certain values from grouped records to retrieve, and this is the point.

I.E. lets say you have this records in your users table:
Yo

And you will execute invalid query showen above.
And you will get error shown above, because, there is 3 records with name John, and it is nice, but, all of them have different email field values.
So, MySQL simply don't understand which of them to return in resulting grouped record.

You can fix this issue, by simply changing your query like this:

SELECT `name` FROM `users` GROUP BY `name`

Also, you may want to add more fields to SELECT section, but you cant do that, if they are not aggregated, but there is crutch you could use (but highly not reccomended):

SELECT ANY_VALUE(`id`), ANY_VALUE(`email`), `name` FROM `users` GROUP BY `name`

enter image description here

Now, you may ask, why using ANY_VALUE is highly not recommended?
Because MySQL don't exactly know what value of grouped records to retrieve, and by using this function, you asking it to fetch any of them (in this case, email of first record with name = John was fetched).
Exactly I cant come up with any ideas on why you would want this behaviour to exist.

Please, if you dont understand me, read more about how grouping in MySQL works, it is very simple.

And by the end, here is one more simple, yet valid query.
If you want to query total users count according to available ages, you may want to write down this query

SELECT `age`, COUNT(`age`) FROM `users` GROUP BY `age`;

Which is fully valid, according to MySQL rules.
And so on.

It is important to understand what exactly the problem is and only then write down the solution.

How to insert a text at the beginning of a file?

With the echo approach, if you are on macOS/BSD like me, lose the -n switch that other people suggest. And I like to define a variable for the text.

So it would be like this:

Header="my complex header that may have difficult chars \"like these quotes\" and line breaks \n\n "

{ echo "$Header"; cat "old.txt"; } > "new.txt"
mv new.txt old.txt

iOS Detection of Screenshot?

I found the answer!! Taking a screenshot interrupts any touches that are on the screen. This is why snapchat requires holding to see the picture. Reference: http://tumblr.jeremyjohnstone.com/post/38503925370/how-to-detect-screenshots-on-ios-like-snapchat

Best way to restrict a text field to numbers only?

My functions:

$('.input_integer_only').on('input', function(e) {
    $(this).val($(this).val().replace(/[^0-9]/g, ''));
});

$('.input_float_only').on('input', function(e) {
    var $var = $(this).val().replace(/[^0-9\.]/g, '');
    var $aVar = $var.split('.');

    if($aVar.length > 2) {
        $var = $aVar[0] + '.' + $aVar[1];
    }

    $(this).val($var);

How to print Two-Dimensional Array like table

Iliya,

Sorry for that.

you code is work. but its had some problem with Array row and columns

here i correct your code this work correctly, you can try this ..

public static void printMatrix(int size, int row, int[][] matrix) {

    for (int i = 0; i < 7 * matrix[row].length; i++) {
        System.out.print("-");
    }
    System.out.println("-");

    for (int i = 1; i <= matrix[row].length; i++) {
        System.out.printf("| %4d ", matrix[row][i - 1]);
    }
    System.out.println("|");

    if (row == size - 1) {

        // when we reach the last row,
        // print bottom line "---------"

        for (int i = 0; i < 7 * matrix[row].length; i++) {
            System.out.print("-");
        }
        System.out.println("-");

    }
}

public static void length(int[][] matrix) {

    int rowsLength = matrix.length;

    for (int k = 0; k < rowsLength; k++) {

        printMatrix(rowsLength, k, matrix);

    }

}

public static void main(String[] args) {

    int[][] matrix = { { 1, 2, 5 }, { 3, 4, 6 }, { 7, 8, 9 }

    };

    length(matrix);

}

and out put look like

----------------------
|    1 |    2 |    5 |
----------------------
|    3 |    4 |    6 |

SyntaxError: Unexpected token function - Async Await Nodejs

Async functions are not supported by Node versions older than version 7.6.

You'll need to transpile your code (e.g. using Babel) to a version of JS that Node understands if you are using an older version.

That said, the current (2018) LTS version of Node.js is 8.x, so if you are using an earlier version you should very strongly consider upgrading.

Array as session variable

First change the array to a string by using implode() function. E.g $number=array(1,2,3,4,5,...); $stringofnumber=implode("|",$number); then pass the string to a session. e.g $_SESSION['string']=$stringofnumber; so when you go to the page where you want to use the array, just explode your string. e.g $number=explode("|", $_SESSION['string']); finally number is your array but remember to start array on the of each page.

Vertically centering a div inside another div

text align-center on parent element, display inline-block on child element. This will center all most anything. I believe its call a "block float".

<div class="outer">
 <div class="inner"> some content </div>
</div><!-- end outer -->

<style>
div.outer{
 width: 100%;
 text-align: center;
}
div.inner{
 display: inline-block;
 text-align: left
}
</style>

This is also a good alternative for float's, good luck!

Serializing a list to JSON

building on an answer from another posting.. I've come up with a more generic way to build out a list, utilizing dynamic retrieval with Json.NET version 12.x

using Newtonsoft.Json;

static class JsonObj
{
    /// <summary>
    /// Deserializes a json file into an object list
    /// Author: Joseph Poirier 2/26/2019
    /// </summary>
    /// <typeparam name="T"></typeparam>
    /// <param name="fileName"></param>
    /// <returns></returns>
    public static List<T> DeSerializeObject<T>(string fileName)
    {
        List<T> objectOut = new List<T>();

        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(fileName)) { return objectOut; }

        try
        {
            // reading in full file as text
            string ss = File.ReadAllText(fileName);

            // went with <dynamic> over <T> or <List<T>> to avoid error..
            // unexpected character at line 1 column 2
            var output = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<dynamic>(ss);

            foreach (var Record in output)
            {
                foreach (T data in Record)
                {
                    objectOut.Add(data);
                }
            }
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            //Log exception here
            Console.Write(ex.Message);
        }

        return objectOut;
    }
}

How do I call a dynamically-named method in Javascript?

Within a ServiceWorker or Worker, replace window with self:

self[method_prefix + method_name](arg1, arg2);

Workers have no access to the DOM, therefore window is an invalid reference. The equivalent global scope identifier for this purpose is self.

select and echo a single field from mysql db using PHP

And escape your values with mysql_real_escape_string since PHP6 won't do that for you anymore! :)

SQL Data Reader - handling Null column values

You need to check for IsDBNull:

if(!SqlReader.IsDBNull(indexFirstName))
{
  employee.FirstName = sqlreader.GetString(indexFirstName);
}

That's your only reliable way to detect and handle this situation.

I wrapped those things into extension methods and tend to return a default value if the column is indeed null:

public static string SafeGetString(this SqlDataReader reader, int colIndex)
{
   if(!reader.IsDBNull(colIndex))
       return reader.GetString(colIndex);
   return string.Empty;
}

Now you can call it like this:

employee.FirstName = SqlReader.SafeGetString(indexFirstName);

and you'll never have to worry about an exception or a null value again.

JavaScript Array to Set

Just pass the array to the Set constructor. The Set constructor accepts an iterable parameter. The Array object implements the iterable protocol, so its a valid parameter.

My solution:

  1. remove all projects in current workspace
  2. import all again
  3. maven update project (Alt + F5) -> Select All and check Force Update of Snapshots/Releases
  4. maven build (Ctrl + B) until there is nothing to build

Sorted collection in Java

TreeSet would not work because they do not allow duplicates plus they do not provide method to fetch element at specific position. PriorityQueue would not work because it does not allow fetching elements at specific position which is a basic requirement for a list. I think you need to implement your own algorithm to maintain a sorted list in Java with O(logn) insert time, unless you do not need duplicates. Maybe a solution could be using a TreeMap where the key is a subclass of the item overriding the equals method so that duplicates are allowed.

How to change environment's font size?

Currently it is not possible to change the font family or size outside the editor. You can however zoom the entire user interface in and out from the View menu.

Update for our VS Code 1.0 release:

A newly introduced setting window.zoomLevel allows to persist the zoom level for good! It can have both negative and positive values to zoom in or out.

Why I am Getting Error 'Channel is unrecoverably broken and will be disposed!'

How to get multiple selected values of select box in php?

You could do like this too. It worked out for me.

<form action="ResultsDulith.php" id="intermediate" name="inputMachine[]" multiple="multiple" method="post">
    <select id="selectDuration" name="selectDuration[]" multiple="multiple">
        <option value="1 WEEK" >Last 1 Week</option>
        <option value="2 WEEK" >Last 2 Week </option>
        <option value="3 WEEK" >Last 3 Week</option>
         <option value="4 WEEK" >Last 4 Week</option>
          <option value="5 WEEK" >Last 5 Week</option>
           <option value="6 WEEK" >Last 6 Week</option>
    </select>
     <input type="submit"/>
</form>

Then take the multiple selection from following PHP code below. It print the selected multiple values accordingly.

$shift=$_POST['selectDuration'];

print_r($shift);

Run cmd commands through Java

The simplest and shortest way is to use CmdTool library.

new Cmd()
         .configuring(new WorkDir("C:/Program Files/Flowella"))
         .command("cmd.exe", "/c", "start")
         .execute();

pandas create new column based on values from other columns / apply a function of multiple columns, row-wise

Since this is the first Google result for 'pandas new column from others', here's a simple example:

import pandas as pd

# make a simple dataframe
df = pd.DataFrame({'a':[1,2], 'b':[3,4]})
df
#    a  b
# 0  1  3
# 1  2  4

# create an unattached column with an index
df.apply(lambda row: row.a + row.b, axis=1)
# 0    4
# 1    6

# do same but attach it to the dataframe
df['c'] = df.apply(lambda row: row.a + row.b, axis=1)
df
#    a  b  c
# 0  1  3  4
# 1  2  4  6

If you get the SettingWithCopyWarning you can do it this way also:

fn = lambda row: row.a + row.b # define a function for the new column
col = df.apply(fn, axis=1) # get column data with an index
df = df.assign(c=col.values) # assign values to column 'c'

Source: https://stackoverflow.com/a/12555510/243392

And if your column name includes spaces you can use syntax like this:

df = df.assign(**{'some column name': col.values})

And here's the documentation for apply, and assign.

How to list all Git tags?

Use xml.etree.ElementTree to print nicely formatted xml files

You can use the function toprettyxml() from xml.dom.minidom in order to do that:

def prettify(elem):
    """Return a pretty-printed XML string for the Element.
    """
    rough_string = ElementTree.tostring(elem, 'utf-8')
    reparsed = minidom.parseString(rough_string)
    return reparsed.toprettyxml(indent="\t")

The idea is to print your Element in a string, parse it using minidom and convert it again in XML using the toprettyxml function.

What is the difference between required and ng-required?

I would like to make a addon for tiago's answer:

Suppose you're hiding element using ng-show and adding a required attribute on the same:

<div ng-show="false">
    <input required name="something" ng-model="name"/>
</div>

will throw an error something like :

An invalid form control with name='' is not focusable

This is because you just cannot impose required validation on hidden elements. Using ng-required makes it easier to conditionally apply required validation which is just awesome!!

Checking cin input stream produces an integer

You can check like this:

int x;
cin >> x;

if (cin.fail()) {
    //Not an int.
}

Furthermore, you can continue to get input until you get an int via:

#include <iostream>

int main() {

    int x;
    std::cin >> x;
    while(std::cin.fail()) {
        std::cout << "Error" << std::endl;
        std::cin.clear();
        std::cin.ignore(256,'\n');
        std::cin >> x;
    }
    std::cout << x << std::endl;

    return 0;
}

EDIT: To address the comment below regarding input like 10abc, one could modify the loop to accept a string as an input. Then check the string for any character not a number and handle that situation accordingly. One needs not clear/ignore the input stream in that situation. Verifying the string is just numbers, convert the string back to an integer. I mean, this was just off the cuff. There might be a better way. This won't work if you're accepting floats/doubles (would have to add '.' in the search string).

#include <iostream>
#include <string>

int main() {

    std::string theInput;
    int inputAsInt;

    std::getline(std::cin, theInput);

    while(std::cin.fail() || std::cin.eof() || theInput.find_first_not_of("0123456789") != std::string::npos) {

        std::cout << "Error" << std::endl;

        if( theInput.find_first_not_of("0123456789") == std::string::npos) {
            std::cin.clear();
            std::cin.ignore(256,'\n');
        }

        std::getline(std::cin, theInput);
    }

    std::string::size_type st;
    inputAsInt = std::stoi(theInput,&st);
    std::cout << inputAsInt << std::endl;
    return 0;
}

        long sumX2 = 0;
        decimal sumY = 0;
        decimal sumXY = 0;

        foreach (var dataPoint in dataPoints)
        {
            count++;
            sumX += dataPoint.X;
            sumX2 += dataPoint.X * dataPoint.X;
            sumY += dataPoint.Y;
            sumXY += dataPoint.X * dataPoint.Y;
        }

        Slope = (sumXY - ((sumX * sumY) / count)) / (sumX2 - ((sumX * sumX) / count));
        Intercept = (sumY / count) - (Slope * (sumX / count));
    }

    public decimal Slope { get; private set; }
    public decimal Intercept { get; private set; }
    public decimal Start { get; private set; }
    public decimal End { get; private set; }

    public decimal GetYValue(decimal xValue)
    {
        return Slope * xValue + Intercept;
    }
}

My data set is using a Unix timestamp for the x-axis and a decimal for the y. Change those datatypes to fit your need. I do all the sum calculations in one iteration for the best possible performance.

Shell equality operators (=, ==, -eq)

== is a bash-specific alias for = and it performs a string (lexical) comparison instead of a numeric comparison. eq being a numeric comparison of course.

Finally, I usually prefer to use the form if [ "$a" == "$b" ]

socket connect() vs bind()

To make understanding better , lets find out where exactly bind and connect comes into picture,

Further to positioning of two calls , as clarified by Sourav,

bind() associates the socket with its local address [that's why server side binds, so that clients can use that address to connect to server.] connect() is used to connect to a remote [server] address, that's why is client side, connect [read as: connect to server] is used.

We cannot use them interchangeably (even when we have client/server on same machine) because of specific roles and corresponding implementation.

I will further recommend to correlate these calls TCP/IP handshake .

enter image description here

So , who will send SYN here , it will be connect() . While bind() is used for defining the communication end point.

Hope this helps!!

Please refer to this link for more info: Force IE8 or IE9 document mode to standards and see Ralph Bacon's answer.

It would be same as this:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge">

Why call git branch --unset-upstream to fixup?

I had this question twice, and it was always caused by the corruption of the git cache file at my local branch. I fixed it by writing the missing commit hash into that file. I got the right commit hash from the server and ran the following command locally:

cat .git/refs/remotes/origin/feature/mybranch \
echo 1edf9668426de67ab764af138a98342787dc87fe \
>> .git/refs/remotes/origin/feature/mybranch

Can I call a constructor from another constructor (do constructor chaining) in C++?

If I understand your question correctly, you're asking if you can call multiple constructors in C++?

If that's what you're looking for, then no - that is not possible.

You certainly can have multiple constructors, each with unique argument signatures, and then call the one you want when you instantiate a new object.

You can even have one constructor with defaulted arguments on the end.

But you may not have multiple constructors, and then call each of them separately.

How to try convert a string to a Guid

This will get you pretty close, and I use it in production and have never had a collision. However, if you look at the constructor for a guid in reflector, you will see all of the checks it makes.

 public static bool GuidTryParse(string s, out Guid result)
    {
        if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(s) && guidRegEx.IsMatch(s))
        {
            result = new Guid(s);
            return true;
        }

        result = default(Guid);
        return false;
    }

    static Regex guidRegEx = new Regex("^[A-Fa-f0-9]{32}$|" +
                          "^({|\\()?[A-Fa-f0-9]{8}-([A-Fa-f0-9]{4}-){3}[A-Fa-f0-9]{12}(}|\\))?$|" +
                          "^({)?[0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,10}(, {0,1}[0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,6}){2}, {0,1}({)([0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,4}, {0,1}){7}[0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,4}(}})$", RegexOptions.Compiled);

How to show another window from mainwindow in QT

  1. Implement a slot in your QMainWindow where you will open your new Window,
  2. Place a widget on your QMainWindow,
  3. Connect a signal from this widget to a slot from the QMainWindow (for example: if the widget is a QPushButton connect the signal click() to the QMainWindow custom slot you have created).

Code example:

MainWindow.h

// ...
include "newwindow.h"
// ...
public slots:
   void openNewWindow();
// ...
private:
   NewWindow *mMyNewWindow;
// ...
}

MainWindow.cpp

// ...
   MainWindow::MainWindow()
   {
      // ...
      connect(mMyButton, SIGNAL(click()), this, SLOT(openNewWindow()));
      // ...
   }
// ...
void MainWindow::openNewWindow()
{
   mMyNewWindow = new NewWindow(); // Be sure to destroy your window somewhere
   mMyNewWindow->show();
   // ...
}

This is an example on how display a custom new window. There are a lot of ways to do this.

How do check if a parameter is empty or null in Sql Server stored procedure in IF statement?

How to add many functions in ONE ng-click?

Try this:

  • Make a collection of functions
  • Make a function that loops through and executes all the functions in the collection.
  • Add the function to the html
array = [
    function() {},
    function() {},
    function() {}
]

function loop() {
    array.forEach(item) {
        item()
    }
}

ng - click = "loop()"

Retina displays, high-res background images

If you are planing to use the same image for retina and non-retina screen then here is the solution. Say that you have a image of 200x200 and have two icons in top row and two icon in bottom row. So, it's four quadrants.

.sprite-of-icons {
  background: url("../images/icons-in-four-quad-of-200by200.png") no-repeat;
  background-size: 100px 100px /* Scale it down to 50% rather using 200x200 */
}

.sp-logo-1 { background-position: 0 0; }

/* Reduce positioning of the icons down to 50% rather using -50px */
.sp-logo-2 { background-position: -25px 0 }
.sp-logo-3 { background-position: 0 -25px }
.sp-logo-3 { background-position: -25px -25px }

Scaling and positioning of the sprite icons to 50% than actual value, you can get the expected result.

IntelliJ and Tomcat.. Howto..?

Which version of IntelliJ are you using? Note that since last year, IntelliJ exists in two versions:

  • Ultimate Edition, which is the complete IDE
  • Community Edition, which is free but does not support JavaEE developments.

(see differences here)

In case you are using the Community Edition, you will not be able to manage a Tomcat installation.

In case you are using the Ultimate Edition, you can have a look at:

Setting width as a percentage using jQuery

Hemnath

If your variable is the percentage:

var myWidth = 70;
$('div#somediv').width(myWidth + '%');

If your variable is in pixels, and you want the percentage it take up of the parent:

var myWidth = 140;
var myPercentage = (myWidth / $('div#somediv').parent().width()) * 100;
$('div#somediv').width(myPercentage + '%');

Move an item inside a list?

I profiled a few methods to move an item within the same list with timeit. Here are the ones to use if j>i:

+---------------------------------+
¦ 14.4usec ¦ x[i:i]=x.pop(j),     ¦
¦ 14.5usec ¦ x[i:i]=[x.pop(j)]    ¦
¦ 15.2usec ¦ x.insert(i,x.pop(j)) ¦
+---------------------------------+

and here the ones to use if j<=i:

+--------------------------------------+
¦ 14.4usec ¦ x[i:i]=x[j],;del x[j]     ¦
¦ 14.4usec ¦ x[i:i]=[x[j]];del x[j]    ¦
¦ 15.4usec ¦ x.insert(i,x[j]);del x[j] ¦
+--------------------------------------+

Not a huge difference if you only use it a few times, but if you do heavy stuff like manual sorting, it's important to take the fastest one. Otherwise, I'd recommend just taking the one that you think is most readable.

Using JsonConvert.DeserializeObject to deserialize Json to a C# POCO class

to fix this error either change the JSON to a JSON array (e.g. [1,2,3]) or change the
deserialized type so that it is a normal .NET type (e.g. not a primitive type like
integer, not a collection type like an array or List) that can be deserialized from a
JSON object.`

The whole message indicates that it is possible to serialize to a List object, but the input must be a JSON list. This means that your JSON must contain

"accounts" : [{<AccountObjectData}, {<AccountObjectData>}...],

Where AccountObject data is JSON representing your Account object or your Badge object

What it seems to be getting currently is

"accounts":{"github":"sergiotapia"}

Where accounts is a JSON object (denoted by curly braces), not an array of JSON objects (arrays are denoted by brackets), which is what you want. Try

"accounts" : [{"github":"sergiotapia"}]

How to create an empty array in PHP with predefined size?

Possibly related, if you want to initialize and fill an array with a range of values, use PHP's (wait for it...) range function:

$a = range(0, 10, 2); // array(0,2,4,6,8,10)

INSERT INTO vs SELECT INTO

The other answers are all great/correct (the main difference is whether the DestTable exists already (INSERT), or doesn't exist yet (SELECT ... INTO))

You may prefer to use INSERT (instead of SELECT ... INTO), if you want to be able to COUNT(*) the rows that have been inserted so far.

Using SELECT COUNT(*) ... WITH NOLOCK is a simple/crude technique that may help you check the "progress" of the INSERT; helpful if it's a long-running insert, as seen in this answer).

[If you use...] INSERT DestTable SELECT ... FROM SrcTable ...then your SELECT COUNT(*) from DestTable WITH (NOLOCK) query would work.

Responsive css styles on mobile devices ONLY

Why not use a media query range.

I'm currently working on a responsive layout for my employer and the ranges I'm using are as follows:

You have your main desktop styles in the body of the CSS file (1024px and above) and then for specific screen sizes I'm using:

@media all and (min-width:960px) and (max-width: 1024px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:801px) and (max-width: 959px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:769px) and (max-width: 800px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:569px) and (max-width: 768px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:481px) and (max-width: 568px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:321px) and (max-width: 480px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:0px) and (max-width: 320px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

This will cover pretty much all devices being used - I would concentrate on getting the styling correct for the sizes at the end of the range (i.e. 320, 480, 568, 768, 800, 1024) as for all the others they will just be responsive to the size available.

Also, don't use px anywhere - use em's or %.

How do I detect what .NET Framework versions and service packs are installed?

See How to: Determine Which .NET Framework Versions Are Installed (MSDN).

MSDN proposes one function example that seems to do the job for version 1-4. According to the article, the method output is:

v2.0.50727  2.0.50727.4016  SP2
v3.0  3.0.30729.4037  SP2
v3.5  3.5.30729.01  SP1
v4
  Client  4.0.30319
  Full  4.0.30319

Note that for "versions 4.5 and later" there is another function.

Throughput and bandwidth difference?

In most cases with "bandwidth" and "throughput" it is OVER complicated; like trying to learn calculus in one day. There is NO need for this, in MOST cases when referencing "Bandwidth" and "Throughput".

All you need to know in MOST cases is this:

"MB" means mega "BYTES"; OR 8 bits and 8 bits and 8 bits, etc; is being sent down the line. Mb means mega "bits". OR a single bit and bit and bit, etc; down the line.

Example: IF your carrier says this is a "6 Mb line"; it means that is the maximum Bandwidth. More succinctly it means that you ONLY are going to benefit 750 kilobytes per/sec "throughput". Now why? Because the line is only sending a series of "bits", which uses 8 bits/sec to create a byte. Thus; you must divide bits/sec by 8 to get to bytes/sec. Thus: a 6Mb line can ONLY deliver 750 thousand bytes/sec.

Another example: I just got a fiber optic line from A T & T; and they LOVE to talk about "bits". So they advertise a whopping "100 mega bits per second". Big deal. Because that is only 12.5 "MBytes/per second.

Remember, EACH "character" on your keyboard or printed on the screen, etc, requires 8 bits; for the other end to "distinguish" what character it is, etc.

So even though I have a "Gargantuan" fiber line touted as "100Mb"; it is really only 12.5 MBytes (characters) per second (100 divided by 8).

Worse: MOST interchange the terms "MB" and "Mb". Worse yet; EVEN The technician that installed the Fiber Optic line and router in my home, did not know what the terms meant. So he thought, and his co-workers (according to him) believed the same. IE: That 100Mb line was a 100MB line. This is very sad.

A T & T reps on the phone rarely know the difference either. Even some of their supervisors do not know it either. Even sadder.

To summarize: "Bandwidth" uses "bits". "Throughput" uses "bytes". And...one byte takes up 8 bits. So again: a 100Mb line (bandwidth) can ONLY produce 12.5 MBytes/sec (throughput).

For whatever it's worth.

What causes a Python segmentation fault?

I was experiencing this segmentation fault after upgrading dlib on RPI. I tracebacked the stack as suggested by Shiplu Mokaddim above and it settled on an OpenBLAS library.

Since OpenBLAS is also multi-threaded, using it in a muilt-threaded application will exponentially multiply threads until segmentation fault. For multi-threaded applications, set OpenBlas to single thread mode.

In python virtual environment, tell OpenBLAS to only use a single thread by editing:

    $ workon <myenv>
    $ nano .virtualenv/<myenv>/bin/postactivate

and add:

    export OPENBLAS_NUM_THREADS=1
    export OPENBLAS_MAIN_FREE=1

After reboot I was able to run all my image recognition apps on rpi3b which were previously crashing it.

Case vs If Else If: Which is more efficient?

Many programming language optimize the switch statement so that it is much faster than a standard if-else if structure provided the cases are compiler constants. Many languages use a jump table or indexed branch table to optimize switch statements. Wikipedia has a good discussion of the switch statement. Also, here is a discussion of switch optimization in C.

One thing to note is that switch statements can be abused and, depending on the case, it may be preferable to use polymorphism instead of switch statements. See here for an example.
