I was trying to install tensorflow GPU for a Windows 7 with pip3 for python3.5.x. Instead of doing pip3 install --upgrade tensorflow I just did pip install tensorflow and after it completed i was finally able to import tensorflow in python3.5.x.

Starting a shell in the Docker Alpine container

Nowadays, Alpine images will boot directly into /bin/sh by default, without having to specify a shell to execute:

$ sudo docker run -it --rm alpine
/ # echo $0
/bin/sh

This is since the alpine image Dockerfiles now contain a CMD command, that specifies the shell to execute when the container starts: CMD ["/bin/sh"].

In older Alpine image versions (pre-2017), the CMD command was not used, since Docker used to create an additional layer for CMD which caused the image size to increase. This is something that the Alpine image developers wanted to avoid. In recent Docker versions (1.10+), CMD no longer occupies a layer, and so it was added to alpine images. Therefore, as long as CMD is not overridden, recent Alpine images will boot into /bin/sh.

For reference, see the following commit to the official Alpine Dockerfiles by Glider Labs:
https://github.com/gliderlabs/docker-alpine/commit/ddc19dd95ceb3584ced58be0b8d7e9169d04c7a3#diff-db3dfdee92c17cf53a96578d4900cb5b

Global npm install location on windows?

If you're just trying to find out where npm is installing your global module (the title of this thread), look at the output when running npm install -g sample_module

Execute a batch file on a remote PC using a batch file on local PC

While I would recommend against this.

But you can use shutdown as client if the target machine has remote shutdown enabled and is in the same workgroup.

Example:

shutdown.exe /s /m \\<target-computer-name> /t 00

replacing <target-computer-name> with the URI for the target machine,

Otherwise, if you want to trigger this through Apache, you'll need to configure the batch script as a CGI script by putting AddHandler cgi-script .bat and Options +ExecCGI into either a local .htaccess file or in the main configuration for your Apache install.

Then you can just call the .bat file containing the shutdown.exe command from your browser.

The target principal name is incorrect. Cannot generate SSPI context

Check your clock matches between the client and server.

When I had this error intermittently, none of the above answers worked, then we found the time had drifted on some of our servers, once they were synced again the error went away. Search for w32tm or NTP to see how to automatically sync the time on Windows.

IIS Manager in Windows 10

Actually you must make sure that the IIS Management Console feature is explicitly checked. On my win 10 pro I had to do it manually, checking the root only was not enough!

How to get the hostname of the docker host from inside a docker container on that host without env vars

You can easily pass it as an environment variable

docker run .. -e HOST_HOSTNAME=`hostname` ..

using

-e HOST_HOSTNAME=`hostname`

will call the hostname and use it's return as an environment variable called HOST_HOSTNAME, of course you can customize the key as you like.

note that this works on bash shell, if you using a different shell you might need to see the alternative for "backtick", for example a fish shell alternative would be

docker run .. -e HOST_HOSTNAME=(hostname) ..

The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)"

There are two crucial nonobvious settings that I've discovered when tuning linked servers on Excel under SQL Server 2014. With those settings, ' FROM OPENDATASOURCE(''Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.16.0'', ...)' as well as '... FROM [' + @srv_name + ']...data AS xl ...' function properly.

Linked server creation

This is just for context.

DECLARE @DB_NAME NVARCHAR(30) = DB_NAME();
DECLARE @srv_name nvarchar(64) = N'<srv_base_name>@' + @DB_NAME; --to distinguish linked server usage by different databases

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
    @server=@srv_name,
    @srvproduct=N'OLE DB Provider for ACE 16.0',
    @provider= N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.16.0',
    @datasrc= '<local_file_path>\<excel_workbook_name>.xlsx',
    @provstr= N'Excel 12.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=0'
;
  1. @datasrc: Encoding is crucial here: varchar instead of nvarchar.
  2. @provstr: Verion, settings and sytax are important!
  3. @provider: Specify the provider installed in your SQL Server environment. Available providers are enumerated under Server Objects::Linked Servers::Providers in SSMS's Object Explorer.

Providing access to the linked server under specific SQL Server logins

This is the first crucial setting. Even for SA like for any other SQL Server login:

EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = @srv_name, @locallogin = N'sa', @useself = N'False', @rmtuser = N'admin', @rmtpassword = N''
;
  1. @rmtuser: It should be admin. Actually, there is no any admin in Windows logins on the system at the same time.
  2. @rmtpassword: It should be an empty string.

Providing access to the linked server via ad hoc queries

This is the second crucial setting. Setting Ad Hoc Distributed Queries to 1 is not enough. One should set to 0 the DisallowAdhocAccess registry key explicitly for the driver specified to @provider:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.DEF_INST\Providers\Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.16.0]
"DisallowAdhocAccess"=dword:00000000

How to create a service running a .exe file on Windows 2012 Server?

You can just do that too, it seems to work well too. sc create "Servicename" binPath= "Path\To\your\App.exe" DisplayName= "My Custom Service"

You can open the registry and add a string named Description in your service's registry key to add a little more descriptive information about it. It will be shown in services.msc.

How to fix PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'ext\\php_curl.dll'?

I have the same issue with windows10, apache 2.2.25, php 5.2 Im trying to add GD to a working PHP.

how I turn around and change between forward and backward slash, plus trailing or not, I get some variant of ;

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'C:/php\php_gd2.dll' - Det g\xe5r inte att hitta den angivna modulen.\r\n in Unknown on line 0

(swedish translated: 'It is not possible to find the module' )

in this perticular case, the php.ini was: extension_dir = "C:/php"

the dll is put in two places C:\php and C:\php\ext

IS it possible that there is and "error" in the error log entry ? I.e. that the .dll IS found (as a file) but not of the right format, or something like that ??

The listener supports no services

The database registers its service name(s) with the listener when it starts up. If it is unable to do so then it tries again periodically - so if the listener starts after the database then there can be a delay before the service is recognised.

If the database isn't running, though, nothing will have registered the service, so you shouldn't expect the listener to know about it - lsnrctl status or lsnrctl services won't report a service that isn't registered yet.

You can start the database up without the listener; from the Oracle account and with your ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and PATH set you can do:

sqlplus /nolog

Then from the SQL*Plus prompt:

connect / as sysdba
startup

Or through the Grid infrastructure, from the grid account, use the srvctl start database command:

srvctl start database -d db_unique_name [-o start_options] [-n node_name]

You might want to look at whether the database is set to auto-start in your oratab file, and depending on what you're using whether it should have started automatically. If you're expecting it to be running and it isn't, or you try to start it and it won't come up, then that's a whole different scenario - you'd need to look at the error messages, alert log, possibly trace files etc. to see exactly why it won't start, and if you can't figure it out, maybe ask on Database Adminsitrators rather than on Stack Overflow.

If the database can't see +DATA then ASM may not be running; you can see how to start that here; or using srvctl start asm. As the documentation says, make sure you do that from the grid home, not the database home.

XAMPP Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 4

I had the following error message Port 80 in use by "Unable to open process" with PID 4! Apache WILL NOT start without the configured ports free! You need to uninstall/disable/reconfigure the blocking application or reconfigure Apache and the Control Panel to listen on a different port Starting Check-Timer Control Panel Ready

opened the httpd.conf and changed the listen port from 80 to 1234 in both places

Listen 12.34.56.78:1234

Listen 1234

Then go to Config for the xampp control panel and go to service and port setting and changed the port from 80 to 1234

That worked.

use "netsh wlan set hostednetwork ..." to create a wifi hotspot and the authentication can't work correctly

For me, running the ad-hoc network on Windows 8.1, it was two things:

  • I had to set a static IP on my Android (under Advanced Options under where you type the Wifi password)
  • I had to use a password 8 characters long

Any IP will allow you to connect, but if you want internet access the static IP should match the subnet from the shared internet connection.

I'm not sure why I couldn't get a longer password to work, but it's worth a try. Maybe a more knowledgeable person could fill us in.

Vagrant error : Failed to mount folders in Linux guest

Just for future reference, this problem happened with me, using Vagrant 1.7.4 and VirtualBox 5.0.10 r104061, when I provisioned a shared folder in / and created a symbolic link to my home folder. Something like this:

/folder
~/folder -> /folder

Apparently, this operation is not allowed by Vagrant due to security purposes and throws the described error.

I solved it by provisioning the desired folder directly to my home directory, such as /home/vagrant/folder.

Assigning the output of a command to a variable

If you want to do it with multiline/multiple command/s then you can do this:

output=$( bash <<EOF
#multiline/multiple command/s
EOF
)

Or:

output=$(
#multiline/multiple command/s
)

Example:

#!/bin/bash
output="$( bash <<EOF
echo first
echo second
echo third
EOF
)"
echo "$output"

Output:

first
second
third

Running a Python script from PHP

If you want to know the return status of the command and get the entire stdout output you can actually use exec:

$command = 'ls';
exec($command, $out, $status);

$out is an array of all lines. $status is the return status. Very useful for debugging.

If you also want to see the stderr output you can either play with proc_open or simply add 2>&1 to your $command. The latter is often sufficient to get things working and way faster to "implement".

$myUser = "root";
$myPass = "pass";
$myDB = "testdb";

$conn = mssql_connect($myServer,$myUser,$myPass);
if (!$conn)

How to install mscomct2.ocx file from .cab file (Excel User Form and VBA)

You're correct that this is really painful to hand out to others, but if you have to, this is how you do it.

  1. Just extract the .ocx file from the .cab file (it is similar to a zip)
  2. Copy to the system folder (c:\windows\sysWOW64 for 64 bit systems and c:\windows\system32 for 32 bit)
  3. Use regsvr32 through the command prompt to register the file (e.g. "regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\mscomct2.ocx")

"Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider" error as Windows Authentication user

When connecting to SQL Server with Windows Authentication (as opposed to a local SQL Server account), attempting to use a linked server may result in the error message:

Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "(OLEDB provider name)"...

The most direct answer to this problem is provided by Microsoft KB 2647989, because "Security settings for the MSDAINITIALIZE DCOM class are incorrect."

The solution is to fix the security settings for MSDAINITIALIZE. In Windows Vista and later, the class is owned by TrustedInstaller, so the ownership of MSDAINITIALIZE must be changed before the security can be adjusted. The KB above has detailed instructions for doing so.

This MSDN blog post describes the reason:

MSDAINITIALIZE is a COM class that is provided by OLE DB. This class can parse OLE DB connection strings and load/initialize the provider based on property values in the connection string. MSDAINITILIAZE is initiated by users connected to SQL Server. If Windows Authentication is used to connect to SQL Server, then the provider is initialized under the logged in user account. If the logged in user is a SQL login, then provider is initialized under SQL Server service account. Based on the type of login used, permissions on MSDAINITIALIZE have to be provided accordingly.

The issue dates back at least to SQL Server 2000; KB 280106 from Microsoft describes the error (see "Message 3") and has the suggested fix of setting the In Process flag for the OLEDB provider.

While setting In Process can solve the immediate problem, it may not be what you want. According to Microsoft,

Instantiating the provider outside the SQL Server process protects the SQL Server process from errors in the provider. When the provider is instantiated outside the SQL Server process, updates or inserts referencing long columns (text, ntext, or image) are not allowed. -- Linked Server Properties doc for SQL Server 2008 R2.

The better answer is to go with the Microsoft guidance and adjust the MSDAINITIALIZE security.

Check for file exists or not in sql server?

You can achieve this using a cursor but the performance is much slower than whileloop.. Here's the code:

set nocount on
declare cur cursor local fast_forward for
    (select filepath from Directory)
open cur;
declare @fullpath varchar(250);
declare @isExists int;

fetch from cur into @fullpath
while @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
    begin
        exec xp_fileexist @fullpath, @isExists out
        if @isExists = 1
            print @fullpath + char(9) + char(9) + 'file exists'
        else
            print @fullpath + char(9) + char(9) + 'file does not exists'
        fetch from cur into @fullpath
    end
close cur
deallocate cur

or you can put it in a tempTable if you want to integrate it in your frontend..

create proc GetFileStatus as
begin
    set nocount on
    create table #tempFileStatus(FilePath varchar(300),FileStatus varchar(30))
    declare cur cursor local fast_forward for
        (select filepath from Directory)
    open cur;
    declare @fullpath varchar(250);
    declare @isExists int;

    fetch from cur into @fullpath
    while @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
        begin
            exec xp_fileexist @fullpath, @isExists out
            if @isExists = 1
                insert into #tempFileStatus values(@fullpath,'File exist')
            else
                insert into #tempFileStatus values(@fullpath,'File does not exists')
            fetch from cur into @fullpath
        end
    close cur
    deallocate cur
    select * from #tempFileStatus
    drop table #tempFileStatus
end

then call it using:

SQL Server 2008 R2 Express permissions -- cannot create database or modify users

I have 2 accounts on my windows machine and I was experiencing this problem with one of them. I did not want to use the sa account, I wanted to use Windows login. It was not immediately obvious to me that I needed to simply sign into the other account that I used to install SQL Server, and add the permissions for the new account from there

(SSMS > Security > Logins > Add a login there)

Easy way to get the full domain name you need to add there open cmd echo each one.

echo %userdomain%\%username%

Add a login for that user and give it all the permissons for master db and other databases you want. When I say "all permissions" make sure NOT to check of any of the "deny" permissions since that will do the opposite.

How to enable ASP classic in IIS7.5

I found some detailed instructions here: http://digitallibraryworld.com/?p=6

The key piece of advice seems to be, don't use the 64-bit ASP.DLL (found in system32) if you've configured the app pool to run 32-bit applications (instead, use the 32-bit ASP.DLL).

Add a script map using the following setting:

Request Path: *.asp
Executable: C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll
Name: whatever you want. I named my Classic ASP

The executable above is 64 BIT ASP handler for your asp script. If you want your ASP script to be handled in 32 bit environment, you need to use executable from this location: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\inetsrv\asp.dll.

Of course, if you don't need to load any 32-bit libraries (or data providers, etc.), just make your life easier by running the 64-bit ASP.DLL!

What is w3wp.exe?

w3wp.exe is a process associated with the application pool in IIS. If you have more than one application pool, you will have more than one instance of w3wp.exe running. This process usually allocates large amounts of resources. It is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

You can get more information on w3wp.exe here

How do I get the SQLSRV extension to work with PHP, since MSSQL is deprecated?

Quoting http://php.net/manual/en/intro.mssql.php:

The MSSQL extension is not available anymore on Windows with PHP 5.3 or later. SQLSRV, an alternative driver for MS SQL is available from Microsoft: » http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/ff657782.aspx.

Once you downloaded that, follow the instructions at this page:

In a nutshell:

Put the driver file in your PHP extension directory.
Modify the php.ini file to include the driver. For example:

extension=php_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll

Restart the Web server.

See Also (copied from that page)

The PHP Manual for the SQLSRV extension is located at http://php.net/manual/en/sqlsrv.installation.php and offers the following for Installation:

The SQLSRV extension is enabled by adding appropriate DLL file to your PHP extension directory and the corresponding entry to the php.ini file. The SQLSRV download comes with several driver files. Which driver file you use will depend on 3 factors: the PHP version you are using, whether you are using thread-safe or non-thread-safe PHP, and whether your PHP installation was compiled with the VC6 or VC9 compiler. For example, if you are running PHP 5.3, you are using non-thread-safe PHP, and your PHP installation was compiled with the VC9 compiler, you should use the php_sqlsrv_53_nts_vc9.dll file. (You should use a non-thread-safe version compiled with the VC9 compiler if you are using IIS as your web server). If you are running PHP 5.2, you are using thread-safe PHP, and your PHP installation was compiled with the VC6 compiler, you should use the php_sqlsrv_52_ts_vc6.dll file.

The drivers can also be used with PDO.

How do I connect to a Websphere Datasource with a given JNDI name?

Find below code to get database connection from your web app server. Just create datasource in app server and use following code to get connection :

// To Get DataSource

ASP.NET strange compilation error

I have crawled through a lot of blog posts including a few Stack Overflow pots, and I already had everything in place what these posts suggested (see below) when I got this error.

  1. My app pool is running under ApplicationPoolIdentity
  2. Load user Profile was set to True in Process Model section
  3. IIS AppPool\DefaultAppPool has full permissions on temp ASP.NET files folder

Finally I found some clues in the below mentioned blog post. It looks like there is heap contention with the same user account. So I changed the app pool identity to LocalSystem, for the app which is failing with this error - and my app started working fine.

See blog post C# compiler or Visual Basic .Net compilers fail with error code -1073741502 when generating assemblies for your ASP.net site.

Note: LocalSystem account will not have much permissions. In my case my application does not need any special permissions. So I was fine. If your application needs special permissions try configuring a custom account.

Git error: src refspec master does not match any

You've created a new repository and added some files to the index, but you haven't created your first commit yet. After you've done:

 git add a_text_file.txt

... do:

 git commit -m "Initial commit."

... and those errors should go away.

How to reference a file for variables using Bash?

Use the source command to import other scripts:

#!/bin/bash
source /REFERENCE/TO/CONFIG.FILE
sudo -u wwwrun svn up /srv/www/htdocs/$production
sudo -u wwwrun svn up /srv/www/htdocs/$playschool

How to get the location of the DLL currently executing?

Reflection is your friend, as has been pointed out. But you need to use the correct method;

Assembly.GetEntryAssembly() //gives you the entrypoint assembly for the process.
Assembly.GetCallingAssembly() // gives you the assembly from which the current method was called.
Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly() // gives you the assembly in which the currently executing code is defined
Assembly.GetAssembly( Type t ) // gives you the assembly in which the specified type is defined.

An ASP.NET setting has been detected that does not apply in Integrated managed pipeline mode

I ran into this problem and inspired by @Jeremy Cook's answer, I bit the bullet to find out what the heck caused IIS 7 Integrated mode to not like my web.config. Here's my scenario:

  1. Web API (version 4.0.030506.0 aka the old one)
  2. .NET 4.0
  3. Attribute Routing 3.5.6 for Web API [spoiler alert: it was this guy!]

I wanted to use attribute routing in a project that (unfortunately) had to use .NET 4 and hence could not use Web API 2.2 (which needs .NET 4.5). The well meaning NuGet package added this section under the <system.web> section:

<system.web>
<httpHandlers>
      <add verb="*" path="routes.axd" type="AttributeRouting.Web.Logging.LogRoutesHandler, AttributeRouting.Web" />
    </httpHandlers>
</system.web>

[I say well meaning, because this part is required on older versions of IIS]

Removing this section got me past the HTTP 500.23!!

Summary: I second Jeremy's words that it is important to understand why things don't work rather than just "masking the symptom". Even if you have to mask the symptom, you know what you are doing (and why) :-)

How to create a BKS (BouncyCastle) format Java Keystore that contains a client certificate chain

I don't think your problem is with the BouncyCastle keystore; I think the problem is with a broken javax.net.ssl package in Android. The BouncyCastle keystore is a supreme annoyance because Android changed a default Java behavior without documenting it anywhere -- and removed the default provider -- but it does work.

Note that for SSL authentication you may require 2 keystores. The "TrustManager" keystore, which contains the CA certs, and the "KeyManager" keystore, which contains your client-site public/private keys. (The documentation is somewhat vague on what needs to be in the KeyManager keystore.) In theory, you shouldn't need the TrustManager keystore if all of your certficates are signed by "well-known" Certifcate Authorities, e.g., Verisign, Thawte, and so on. Let me know how that works for you. Your server will also require the CA for whatever was used to sign your client.

I could not create an SSL connection using javax.net.ssl at all. I disabled the client SSL authentication on the server side, and I still could not create the connection. Since my end goal was an HTTPS GET, I punted and tried using the Apache HTTP Client that's bundled with Android. That sort-of worked. I could make the HTTPS conection, but I still could not use SSL auth. If I enabled the client SSL authentication on my server, the connection would fail. I haven't checked the Apache HTTP Client code, but I suspect they are using their own SSL implementation, and don't use javax.net.ssl.

git remote add with other SSH port

Rather than using the ssh:// protocol prefix, you can continue using the conventional URL form for accessing git over SSH, with one small change. As a reminder, the conventional URL is:

git@host:path/to/repo.git

To specify an alternative port, put brackets around the user@host part, including the port:

[git@host:port]:path/to/repo.git

But if the port change is merely temporary, you can tell git to use a different SSH command instead of changing your repository’s remote URL:

export GIT_SSH_COMMAND='ssh -p port'
git clone git@host:path/to/repo.git # for instance

Escape quote in web.config connection string

Can .NET load and parse a properties file equivalent to Java Properties class?

C# generally uses xml-based config files rather than the *.ini-style file like you said, so there's nothing built-in to handle this. However, google returns a number of promising results.

Invalid application of sizeof to incomplete type with a struct

Your error is also shown when trying to access the sizeof() of an non-initialized extern array:

sizeof(a);
>> error: invalid application of 'sizeof' to incomplete type 'int[]'

Note that you would get an array size missing error without the extern keyword.

two divs the same line, one dynamic width, one fixed

I'd go with @sandeep's display: table-cell answer if you don't care about IE7.

Otherwise, here's an alternative, with one downside: the "right" div has to come first in the HTML.

See: http://jsfiddle.net/thirtydot/qLTMf/
and exactly the same, but with the "right div" removed: http://jsfiddle.net/thirtydot/qLTMf/1/

String to byte array in php

PHP has no explicit byte type, but its string is already the equivalent of Java's byte array. You can safely write fputs($connection, "The quick brown fox …"). The only thing you must be aware of is character encoding, they must be the same on both sides. Use mb_convert_encoding() when in doubt.

Redis: How to access Redis log file

The log file will be where the configuration file (usually /etc/redis/redis.conf) says it is :)

By default, logfile stdout which probably isn't what you are looking for. If redis is running daemonized, then that log configuration means logs will be sent to /dev/null, i.e. discarded.

Summary: set logfile /path/to/my/log/file.log in your config and redis logs will be written to that file.

How can I tell if a Java integer is null?

parseInt() is just going to throw an exception if the parsing can't complete successfully. You can instead use Integers, the corresponding object type, which makes things a little bit cleaner. So you probably want something closer to:

Integer s = null;

try {
  s = Integer.valueOf(startField.getText());
}
catch (NumberFormatException e) {
  // ...
}

if (s != null) { ... }

Beware if you do decide to use parseInt()! parseInt() doesn't support good internationalization, so you have to jump through even more hoops:

try {
    NumberFormat nf = NumberFormat.getIntegerInstance(locale);
    nf.setParseIntegerOnly(true);
    nf.setMaximumIntegerDigits(9); // Or whatever you'd like to max out at.

    // Start parsing from the beginning.
    ParsePosition p = new ParsePosition(0);

    int val = format.parse(str, p).intValue();
    if (p.getIndex() != str.length()) {
        // There's some stuff after all the digits are done being processed.
    }

    // Work with the processed value here.
} catch (java.text.ParseFormatException exc) {
    // Something blew up in the parsing.
}

assign function return value to some variable using javascript

The only way to retrieve the correct value in your context is to run $.ajax() function synchronously (what actually contradicts to main AJAX idea). There is the special configuration attribute async you should set to false. In that case the main scope which actually contains $.ajax() function call is paused until the synchronous function is done, so, the return is called only after $.ajax().

function doSomething() {
    var status = 0;
    $.ajax({
        url: 'action.php',
        type: 'POST',
        data: dataString,
        async: false,
        success: function (txtBack) {
            if (txtBack == 1)
                status = 1;
        }
    });

    return status;
}

var response = doSomething();

How do I resolve this "ORA-01109: database not open" error?

have you tried SQL> alter database open; ? after first login?

Checking if a number is a prime number in Python

If a is a prime then the while x: in your code will run forever, since x will remain True.

So why is that while there?

I think you wanted to end the for loop when you found a factor, but didn't know how, so you added that while since it has a condition. So here is how you do it:

def is_prime(a):
    x = True
    for i in range(2, a):
       if a%i == 0:
           x = False
           break # ends the for loop
       # no else block because it does nothing ...

    if x:
        print "prime"
    else:
        print "not prime"

jQuery: How to get the event object in an event handler function without passing it as an argument?

Since the event object "evt" is not passed from the parameter, is it still possible to obtain this object?

No, not reliably. IE and some other browsers make it available as window.event (not $(window.event)), but that's non-standard and not supported by all browsers (famously, Firefox does not).

You're better off passing the event object into the function:

<a href="#" onclick="myFunc(event, 1,2,3)">click</a>

That works even on non-IE browsers because they execute the code in a context that has an event variable (and works on IE because event resolves to window.event). I've tried it in IE6+, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera. Example: http://jsbin.com/iwifu4

But your best bet is to use modern event handling:

HTML:

<a href="#">click</a>

JavaScript using jQuery (since you're using jQuery):

$("selector_for_the_anchor").click(function(event) {
    // Call `myFunc`
    myFunc(1, 2, 3);

    // Use `event` here at the event handler level, for instance
    event.stopPropagation();
});

...or if you really want to pass event into myFunc:

$("selector_for_the_anchor").click(function(event) {
    myFunc(event, 1, 2, 3);
});

The selector can be anything that identifies the anchor. You have a very rich set to choose from (nearly all of CSS3, plus some). You could add an id or class to the anchor, but again, you have other choices. If you can use where it is in the document rather than adding something artificial, great.

One of the places java tries to find your .class file is your current directory. So if your .class file is in C:\java, you should change your current directory to that.

To change your directory, type the following command at the prompt and press Enter:

cd c:\java

This . tells java that your classpath is your local directory.

Executing your program using this command should correct the problem:
java -classpath . HelloWorld

Where can I find System.Web.Helpers, System.Web.WebPages, and System.Web.Razor?

As for VS2017 I didn't find it in "extensions", there's a Nuget package called "microsoft-web-helpers" that seems to be equivalent to System.Web.Helpers.

Example on ToggleButton

Just remove the line toggle.toggle(); from your click listener toggle() method will always reset your toggle button value.

And as you are trying to take the value of EditText in string variable which always remains same as you are getting value in onCreate() so better directly use the EditText to get the value of it in your onClick listener.

Just change your code as below its working fine now.

  btn.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {

        @Override
        public void onClick(View v) {
            // TODO Auto-generated method stub
                       //toggle.toggle();
            if ( ed.getText().toString().equalsIgnoreCase("1")) {

                toggle.setTextOff("TOGGLE ON");
                toggle.setChecked(true);
            } else if ( ed.getText().toString().equalsIgnoreCase("0")) {

                toggle.setTextOn("TOGGLE OFF");
                toggle.setChecked(false);

            }
        }
    });

Convert a row of a data frame to vector

Note that you have to be careful if your row contains a factor. Here is an example:

df_1 = data.frame(V1 = factor(11:15),
                  V2 = 21:25)
df_1[1,] %>% as.numeric() # you expect 11 21 but it returns
[1] 1 21

Here is another example (by default data.frame() converts characters to factors)

df_2 = data.frame(V1 = letters[1:5],
                  V2 = 1:5)
df_2[3,] %>% as.numeric() # you expect to obtain c 3 but it returns
[1] 3 3
df_2[3,] %>% as.character() # this won't work neither
[1] "3" "3"

To prevent this behavior, you need to take care of the factor, before extracting it:

df_1$V1 = df_1$V1 %>% as.character() %>% as.numeric()
df_2$V1 = df_2$V1 %>% as.character()
df_1[1,] %>% as.numeric()
[1] 11  21
df_2[3,] %>% as.character()
[1] "c" "3"

What SOAP client libraries exist for Python, and where is the documentation for them?

In my conclusion we have this:

Soap client side:

use only Suds-jurko (updated 2016) suds is well maintained and updated.

UPDATE 06/2017: suds-jurko library is not updated and apparently abandoned,

I tested zeep library but got limitations around tokens, by now just support UsernameToken, i report a bug to create timestamp token and author update the code to fix it.

Zeep start good and has good documentation , so i recently migrated my code from suds to zeep and works fine.

Soap server side:

We have TGWS, soaplib (pysimplesoap not tested) IMHO use and help soaplib must be the choice.

Visual Studio 2013 Install Fails: Program Compatibility Mode is on (Windows 10)

According to the below source you should do the follwong:

Go to the installation folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\IDE", find the executable file(If your VS express 2013 is VS express 2013 for web, the executable file is VWDExpress.exe).

Right-click the file, select the tab "compatibility". Disable all compatibility settings over here

So , please try to disable any component 'compatibility' settings (turning off the compatibility service is not enough in that case).

In addition, can you upload the installing log?

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Download the Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET Framework Log Collection tool (collect.exe). - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12493
  2. Run the collect.exe tool from the directory where you saved the tool.
  3. The utility creates a compressed cabinet file of all the VS and .NET logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
  4. Post the vslogs.cab

Doctrine - How to print out the real sql, not just the prepared statement?

Doctrine is not sending a "real SQL query" to the database server : it is actually using prepared statements, which means :

  • Sending the statement, for it to be prepared (this is what is returned by $query->getSql())
  • And, then, sending the parameters (returned by $query->getParameters())
  • and executing the prepared statements

This means there is never a "real" SQL query on the PHP side — so, Doctrine cannot display it.

You don't need to pass both arguments when performing a remount. You can simply pass the mount point (here /system). And /system is universal amongst Android devices.

In ASP.NET MVC: All possible ways to call Controller Action Method from a Razor View

Method 1 : Using jQuery Ajax Get call (partial page update).

Suitable for when you need to retrieve jSon data from database.

Controller's Action Method

[HttpGet]
public ActionResult Foo(string id)
{
    var person = Something.GetPersonByID(id);
    return Json(person, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}

Jquery GET

function getPerson(id) {
    $.ajax({
        url: '@Url.Action("Foo", "SomeController")',
        type: 'GET',
        dataType: 'json',
        // we set cache: false because GET requests are often cached by browsers
        // IE is particularly aggressive in that respect
        cache: false,
        data: { id: id },
        success: function(person) {
            $('#FirstName').val(person.FirstName);
            $('#LastName').val(person.LastName);
        }
    });
}

Person class

public class Person
{
    public string FirstName { get; set; }
    public string LastName { get; set; }
}

Method 2 : Using jQuery Ajax Post call (partial page update).

Suitable for when you need to do partial page post data into database.

Post method is also same like above just replace [HttpPost] on Action method and type as post for jquery method.

For more information check Posting JSON Data to MVC Controllers Here

Method 3 : As a Form post scenario (full page update).

Suitable for when you need to save or update data into database.

View

@using (Html.BeginForm("SaveData","ControllerName", FormMethod.Post))
{
    @Html.TextBoxFor(model => m.Text)

    <input type="submit" value="Save" />
}

Action Method

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult SaveData(FormCollection form)
    {
        // Get movie to update
        return View();
   }

Method 4 : As a Form Get scenario (full page update).

Suitable for when you need to Get data from database

Get method also same like above just replace [HttpGet] on Action method and FormMethod.Get for View's form method.

I hope this will help to you.

in iPhone App How to detect the screen resolution of the device

UIScreen class lets you find screen resolution in Points and Pixels.

Screen resolutions is measured in Points or Pixels. It should never be confused with screen size. A smaller screen size can have higher resolution.

UIScreen's 'bounds.width' return rectangular size in Points enter image description here

UIScreen's 'nativeBounds.width' return rectangular size in Pixels.This value is detected as PPI ( Point per inch ). Shows the sharpness & clarity of the Image on a device. enter image description here

You can use UIScreen class to detect all these values.

Swift3

// Normal Screen Bounds - Detect Screen size in Points.
let width = UIScreen.main.bounds.width
let height = UIScreen.main.bounds.height
print("\n width:\(width) \n height:\(height)")

// Native Bounds - Detect Screen size in Pixels.
let nWidth = UIScreen.main.nativeBounds.width
let nHeight = UIScreen.main.nativeBounds.height
print("\n Native Width:\(nWidth) \n Native Height:\(nHeight)")

Console

width:736.0
height:414.0

Native Width:1080.0
Native Height:1920.0

Swift 2.x

//Normal Bounds - Detect Screen size in Points.
    let width  = UIScreen.mainScreen.bounds.width
    let height = UIScreen.mainScreen.bounds.height

// Native Bounds - Detect Screen size in Pixels.
    let nWidth  = UIScreen.mainScreen.nativeBounds.width
    let nHeight = UIScreen.mainScreen.nativeBounds.height

ObjectiveC

// Normal Bounds - Detect Screen size in Points.
CGFloat *width  = [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.width;
CGFloat *height = [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size.height;

// Native Bounds - Detect Screen size in Pixels.
CGFloat *width  = [UIScreen mainScreen].nativeBounds.size.width
CGFloat *height = [UIScreen mainScreen].nativeBounds.size.width

Is it possible to deserialize XML into List<T>?

If you decorate the User class with the XmlType to match the required capitalization:

[XmlType("user")]
public class User
{
   ...
}

Then the XmlRootAttribute on the XmlSerializer ctor can provide the desired root and allow direct reading into List<>:

    // e.g. my test to create a file
    using (var writer = new FileStream("users.xml", FileMode.Create))
    {
        XmlSerializer ser = new XmlSerializer(typeof(List<User>),
            new XmlRootAttribute("user_list"));
        List<User> list = new List<User>();
        list.Add(new User { Id = 1, Name = "Joe" });
        list.Add(new User { Id = 2, Name = "John" });
        list.Add(new User { Id = 3, Name = "June" });
        ser.Serialize(writer, list);
    }

...

    // read file
    List<User> users;
    using (var reader = new StreamReader("users.xml"))
    {
        XmlSerializer deserializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(List<User>),
            new XmlRootAttribute("user_list"));
        users = (List<User>)deserializer.Deserialize(reader);
    }

"No such file or directory" error when executing a binary

It is possible that the executable is statically linked and that is why ldd gzip does not see any links - because it isn't. I don't know much about things that far back so I don't know if there would be incompatibilities if libraries are linked in statically. I might expect there to be.

I know it's the most obvious thing going and I'm sure you've done it, but chmod +x ./gzip, yes? No such file or directory is a classic symptom of that not being done, that's why I mention it.

JSON string to JS object

You can use eval(jsonString) if you trust the data in the string, otherwise you'll need to parse it properly - check json.org for some code samples.

How to pass an object into a state using UI-router?

Actually you can do this.

$state.go("state-name", {param-name: param-value}, {location: false, inherit: false});

This is the official documentation about options in state.go

Everything is described there and as you can see this is the way to be done.

Your best bets are probably going with one of the other lookup services (still screen-scraping), and checking whether they don't require CAPTCHAs.

The last appears the least likely to require a CAPTCHA at any point, but it's worth checking all three.

cd "%~dp1"
cmd /k
goto End

:Install
rem No arguments: Copies itself into SendTo folder
copy "%0" "%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo\A - Open in CMD shell.cmd"

:End

If you run this script without any parameters by double-clicking on it, it will copy itself to the SendTo folder and renaming it to "A - Open in CMD shell.cmd". Afterwards it is available in the "SentTo" context menu.

Then, right-click on any file or folder in Windows explorer and select "SendTo > A - Open in CMD shell.cmd"

The script will change drive and path to the path containing the file or folder you have selected and open a command shell with that path - useful for Visual Studio Code, because then you can just type "code ." to run it in the context of your project.

How does it work?

%0 - full path of the batch script
%~d1 - the drive contained in the first argument (e.g. "C:")
%~dp1 - the path contained in the first argument
cmd /k - opens a command shell which stays open

Not used here, but %~n1 is the file name of the first argument.

I hope this is helpful for someone.

go to link on button click - jquery

You need to specify the domain:

 $('.button1').click(function() {
   window.location = 'www.example.com/index.php?id=' + this.id;
 });

Read Content from Files which are inside Zip file

Because of the condition in while, the loop might never break:

while (entry != null) {
  // If entry never becomes null here, loop will never break.
}

Instead of the null check there, you can try this:

ZipEntry entry = null;
while ((entry = zip.getNextEntry()) != null) {
  // Rest of your code
}

How to match all occurrences of a regex

Using scan should do the trick:

string.scan(/regex/)

Arrays.asList() of an array

Arrays.asList(factors) returns a List<int[]>, not a List<Integer>. Since you're doing new ArrayList instead of new ArrayList<Integer> you don't get a compile error for that, but create an ArrayList<Object> which contains an int[] and you then implicitly cast that arraylist to ArrayList<Integer>. Of course the first time you try to use one of those "Integers" you get an exception.

Validate fields after user has left a field

I managed to do this with a pretty simple bit of CSS. This does require that the error messages be siblings of the input they relate to, and that they have a class of error.

:focus ~ .error {
    display:none;
}

After meeting those two requirements, this will hide any error message related to a focused input field, something that I think angularjs should be doing anyway. Seems like an oversight.

hadoop copy a local file system folder to HDFS

To copy a folder file from local to hdfs, you can the below command

hadoop fs -put /path/localpath  /path/hdfspath

or

hadoop fs -copyFromLocal /path/localpath  /path/hdfspath

Entity framework self referencing loop detected

I know this is an old question but here is the solution I found to a very similar coding issue in my own code:

var response = ApiDB.Persons.Include(y => y.JobTitle).Include(b => b.Discipline).Include(b => b.Team).Include(b => b.Site).OrderBy(d => d.DisplayName).ToArray();
        foreach (var person in response)
        {
            person.JobTitle = new JobTitle()
            {
                JobTitle_ID = person.JobTitle.JobTitle_ID,
                JobTitleName = person.JobTitle.JobTitleName,
                PatientInteraction = person.JobTitle.PatientInteraction,
                Active = person.JobTitle.Active,
                IsClinical = person.JobTitle.IsClinical
            };
        }

Since the person object contains everything from the person table and the job title object contains a list of persons with that job title, the database kept self referencing. I thought disabling proxy creation and lazy loading would fix this but unfortunately it didn't.

For the that aren't able to do that, try the solution above. Explicitly creating a new object for each object that self references, but leave out the list of objects or object that goes back to the previous entity will fix it since disabling lazy loading does not appear to work for me.

Difference between Activity and FragmentActivity

FragmentActivity is part of the support library, while Activity is the framework's default class. They are functionally equivalent.

You should always use FragmentActivity and android.support.v4.app.Fragment instead of the platform default Activity and android.app.Fragment classes. Using the platform defaults mean that you are relying on whatever implementation of fragments is used in the device you are running on. These are often multiple years old, and contain bugs that have since been fixed in the support library.

Converting Hexadecimal String to Decimal Integer

My way:

private static int hexToDec(String hex) {
    return Integer.parseInt(hex, 16);
}

Inverse of matrix in R

solve(c) does give the correct inverse. The issue with your code is that you are using the wrong operator for matrix multiplication. You should use solve(c) %*% c to invoke matrix multiplication in R.

R performs element by element multiplication when you invoke solve(c) * c.

Android Studio 3.0 Execution failed for task: unable to merge dex

This error happens when you add an external library which may not be compatible with your compileSdkVersion .

Be careful when you are adding an external library.

I spent 2 days on this problem and finally it got solved following these steps.

  • Make sure all your support libraries are same as compileSdkVersion of your build.gradle(Module:app) in my case it is 26. enter image description here

  • In your defaultConfig category type multiDexEnabled true. This is the important part. multiDexEnabled True image

  • Go to File | Settings | Build, Execution, Deployment | Instant Run and try to Enable/Disable Instant Run to hot swap... and click okay Enable Instant Run to Hot swap... Image

  • Sync Your project.

  • Lastly, Go to Build | click on Rebuild Project.

  • Note: Rebuild Project first cleans and then builds the project.

SQL: How To Select Earliest Row

In this case a relatively simple GROUP BY can work, but in general, when there are additional columns where you can't order by but you want them from the particular row which they are associated with, you can either join back to the detail using all the parts of the key or use OVER():

Runnable example (Wofkflow20 error in original data corrected)

;WITH partitioned AS (
    SELECT company
        ,workflow
        ,date
        ,other_columns
        ,ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY company, workflow
                            ORDER BY date) AS seq
    FROM workflowTable
)
SELECT *
FROM partitioned WHERE seq = 1

Ubuntu, how do you remove all Python 3 but not 2

First of all, don't try the following command as suggested by Germain above.

   `sudo apt-get remove 'python3.*'`

In Ubuntu, many software depends upon Python3 so if you will execute this command it will remove all of them as it happened with me. I found following answer useful to recover it.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/810854/i-deleted-package-python3-on-ubuntu-and-i-have-lost-dashboard-terminal-and-un

If you want to use different python versions for different projects then create virtual environments it will be very useful. refer to the following link to create virtual environments.

Creating Virtual Environment also helps in using Tensorflow and Keras in Jupyter Notebook.

Generating random, unique values C#

I'm posting a correct implementation of a shuffle algorithm, since the other one posted here doesn't produce a uniform shuffle.

As the other answer states, for small numbers of values to be randomized, you can simply fill an array with those values, shuffle the array, and then use however many of the values that you want.

The following is an implementation of the Fisher-Yates Shuffle (aka the Knuth Shuffle). (Read the "implementation errors" section of that link (search for "always selecting j from the entire range of valid array indices on every iteration") to see some discussion about what is wrong with the other implementation posted here.)

Link error "undefined reference to `__gxx_personality_v0'" and g++

If g++ still gives error Try using:

g++ file.c -lstdc++

Look at this post: What is __gxx_personality_v0 for?

Make sure -lstdc++ is at the end of the command. If you place it at the beginning (i.e. before file.c), you still can get this same error.

Very simple log4j2 XML configuration file using Console and File appender

There are excellent answers, but if you want to color your console logs you can use the pattern :

<PatternLayout pattern="%style{%date{DEFAULT}}{yellow}
            [%t] %highlight{%-5level}{FATAL=bg_red, ERROR=red, WARN=yellow, INFO=green} %logger{36} - %message\n"/>

The full log4j2 file is:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Configuration status="WARN">
    <Properties>
        <Property name="APP_LOG_ROOT">/opt/test/log</Property>
    </Properties>
    <Appenders>
        <Console name="ConsoleAppender" target="SYSTEM_OUT">
            <PatternLayout pattern="%style{%date{DEFAULT}}{yellow}
                [%t] %highlight{%-5level}{FATAL=bg_red, ERROR=red, WARN=yellow, INFO=green} %logger{36} - %message\n"/>
        </Console>
        <RollingFile name="XML_ROLLING_FILE_APPENDER"
                     fileName="${APP_LOG_ROOT}/appName.log"
                     filePattern="${APP_LOG_ROOT}/appName-%d{yyyy-MM-dd}-%i.log.gz">
            <PatternLayout pattern="%d{DEFAULT} [%t] %-5level %logger{36} - %msg%n"/>
            <Policies>
                <SizeBasedTriggeringPolicy size="19500KB"/>
            </Policies>
        </RollingFile>
    </Appenders>
    <Loggers>
        <Root level="error">
            <AppenderRef ref="ConsoleAppender"/>
        </Root>
        <Logger name="com.compName.projectName" level="debug">
            <AppenderRef ref="XML_ROLLING_FILE_APPENDER"/>
        </Logger>
    </Loggers>
</Configuration>

And the logs will look like this: enter image description here

Check folder size in Bash

You can do:

du -h your_directory

which will give you the size of your target directory.

If you want a brief output, du -hcs your_directory is nice.

How to display count of notifications in app launcher icon

ShortcutBadger is a library that adds an abstraction layer over the device brand and current launcher and offers a great result. Works with LG, Sony, Samsung, HTC and other custom Launchers.

It even has a way to display Badge Count in Pure Android devices desktop.

Updating the Badge Count in the application icon is as easy as calling:

int badgeCount = 1;
ShortcutBadger.applyCount(context, badgeCount);

It includes a demo application that allows you to test its behavior.

Substitute multiple whitespace with single whitespace in Python

For completeness, you can also use:

mystring = mystring.strip() # the while loop will leave a trailing space,
                  # so the trailing whitespace must be dealt with
                  # before or after the while loop
while '  ' in mystring:
    mystring = mystring.replace('  ', ' ')

which will work quickly on strings with relatively few spaces (faster than re in these situations).

In any scenario, Alex Martelli's split/join solution performs at least as quickly (usually significantly more so).

In your example, using the default values of timeit.Timer.repeat(), I get the following times:

str.replace: [1.4317800167340238, 1.4174888149192384, 1.4163512401715934]
re.sub:      [3.741931446594549,  3.8389395858970374, 3.973777672860706]
split/join:  [0.6530919432498195, 0.6252146571700905, 0.6346594329726258]

EDIT:

Just came across this post which provides a rather long comparison of the speeds of these methods.

Rotate camera in Three.js with mouse

take a look at the following examples

http://threejs.org/examples/#misc_controls_orbit

http://threejs.org/examples/#misc_controls_trackball

there are other examples for different mouse controls, but both of these allow the camera to rotate around a point and zoom in and out with the mouse wheel, the main difference is OrbitControls enforces the camera up direction, and TrackballControls allows the camera to rotate upside-down.

All you have to do is include the controls in your html document

<script src="js/OrbitControls.js"></script>

and include this line in your source

controls = new THREE.OrbitControls( camera, renderer.domElement );

Cosine Similarity between 2 Number Lists

I don't suppose performance matters much here, but I can't resist. The zip() function completely recopies both vectors (more of a matrix transpose, actually) just to get the data in "Pythonic" order. It would be interesting to time the nuts-and-bolts implementation:

import math
def cosine_similarity(v1,v2):
    "compute cosine similarity of v1 to v2: (v1 dot v2)/{||v1||*||v2||)"
    sumxx, sumxy, sumyy = 0, 0, 0
    for i in range(len(v1)):
        x = v1[i]; y = v2[i]
        sumxx += x*x
        sumyy += y*y
        sumxy += x*y
    return sumxy/math.sqrt(sumxx*sumyy)

v1,v2 = [3, 45, 7, 2], [2, 54, 13, 15]
print(v1, v2, cosine_similarity(v1,v2))

Output: [3, 45, 7, 2] [2, 54, 13, 15] 0.972284251712

That goes through the C-like noise of extracting elements one-at-a-time, but does no bulk array copying and gets everything important done in a single for loop, and uses a single square root.

ETA: Updated print call to be a function. (The original was Python 2.7, not 3.3. The current runs under Python 2.7 with a from __future__ import print_function statement.) The output is the same, either way.

CPYthon 2.7.3 on 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo:

>>> timeit.timeit("cosine_similarity(v1,v2)",setup="from __main__ import cosine_similarity, v1, v2")
2.4261788514654654
>>> timeit.timeit("cosine_measure(v1,v2)",setup="from __main__ import cosine_measure, v1, v2")
8.794677709375264

So, the unpythonic way is about 3.6 times faster in this case.

Multiple left joins on multiple tables in one query

You can do like this

SELECT something
FROM
    (a LEFT JOIN b ON a.a_id = b.b_id) LEFT JOIN c on a.a_aid = c.c_id
WHERE a.parent_id = 'rootID'

Applying function with multiple arguments to create a new pandas column

Alternatively, you can use numpy underlying function:

>>> import numpy as np
>>> df = pd.DataFrame({"A": [10,20,30], "B": [20, 30, 10]})
>>> df['new_column'] = np.multiply(df['A'], df['B'])
>>> df
    A   B  new_column
0  10  20         200
1  20  30         600
2  30  10         300

or vectorize arbitrary function in general case:

>>> def fx(x, y):
...     return x*y
...
>>> df['new_column'] = np.vectorize(fx)(df['A'], df['B'])
>>> df
    A   B  new_column
0  10  20         200
1  20  30         600
2  30  10         300

Return HTML from ASP.NET Web API

Starting with AspNetCore 2.0, it's recommended to use ContentResult instead of the Produce attribute in this case. See: https://github.com/aspnet/Mvc/issues/6657#issuecomment-322586885

This doesn't rely on serialization nor on content negotiation.

[HttpGet]
public ContentResult Index() {
    return new ContentResult {
        ContentType = "text/html",
        StatusCode = (int)HttpStatusCode.OK,
        Content = "<html><body>Hello World</body></html>"
    };
}

How to silence output in a Bash script?

If you want STDOUT and STDERR both [everything], then the simplest way is:

#!/bin/bash
myprogram >& sample.s

then run it like ./script, and you will get no output to your terminal. :)

the ">&" means STDERR and STDOUT. the & also works the same way with a pipe: ./script |& sed that will send everything to sed

Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine Mac OSX Mavericks

So try uninstalling all other versions other than the one you need, then set the JAVA_HOMEpath variable for that JDK remaining, and you're done.

That's worked for me, I have two JDK (version 8 & 11) installed on my local mac, that causes the issue, for uninstalling, I followed these two steps:

  • cd /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines
  • rm -rf openjdk-11.0.1.jdk

What is the difference between --save and --save-dev?

All explanations here are great, but lacking a very important thing: How do you install production dependencies only? (without the development dependencies). We separate dependencies from devDependencies by using --save or --save-dev. To install all we use:

npm i

To install only production packages we should use:

npm i --only=production

Find a value in an array of objects in Javascript

With a foreach:

let itemYouWant = null;

        itemYouWant = item;
    }
});
console.log(itemYouWant);

Initialize class fields in constructor or at declaration?

In Java, an initializer with the declaration means the field is always initialized the same way, regardless of which constructor is used (if you have more than one) or the parameters of your constructors (if they have arguments), although a constructor might subsequently change the value (if it is not final). So using an initializer with a declaration suggests to a reader that the initialized value is the value that the field has in all cases, regardless of which constructor is used and regardless of the parameters passed to any constructor. Therefore use an initializer with the declaration only if, and always if, the value for all constructed objects is the same.

Detecting Enter keypress on VB.NET

I had the same problem and I could not make this answer work on Framework 2.0 so I dug deeper.

You would have to first handle the PreviewKeyDown on the textbox so when ENTER came along you would set IsInputKey so that it could be handled by or forwarded to the keyDown event on the textbox. Like this:

Private Sub txtFiltro_PreviewKeyDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PreviewKeyDownEventArgs) Handles txtFiltro.PreviewKeyDown
    Select Case e.KeyCode
        Case Keys.Enter
            e.IsInputKey = True
    End Select
 End Sub

and then you would handle the event keydown on the textbox. One of the answer was on the right track but missed setting the e.IsInputKey.

Private Sub txtFiltro_KeyDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles txtFiltro.KeyDown
    If e.KeyCode = Keys.Enter Then
        e.handled = True
        Textbox1.Focus()
    End If
End Sub

grep's at sign caught as whitespace

No -P needed; -E is sufficient:

or even without -E:

AngularJS Dropdown required validation

You need to add a name attribute to your dropdown list, then you need to add a required attribute, and then you can reference the error using myForm.[input name].$error.required:

HTML:

        <form name="myForm" ng-controller="Ctrl" ng-submit="save(myForm)" novalidate>
        <input type="text" name="txtServiceName" ng-model="ServiceName" required>
<span ng-show="myForm.txtServiceName.$error.required">Enter Service Name</span>
<br/>
          <select name="service_id" class="Sitedropdown" style="width: 220px;"
                  ng-model="ServiceID"
                  ng-options="service.ServiceID as service.ServiceName for service in services"
                  required>
            <option value="">Select Service</option>
          </select>
          <span ng-show="myForm.service_id.$error.required">Select service</span>

        </form>

    Controller:

        function Ctrl($scope) {
          $scope.services = [
            {ServiceID: 1, ServiceName: 'Service1'},
            {ServiceID: 2, ServiceName: 'Service2'},
            {ServiceID: 3, ServiceName: 'Service3'}
          ];

    $scope.save = function(myForm) {
    console.log('Selected Value: '+ myForm.service_id.$modelValue);
    alert('Data Saved! without validate');
    };
        }

Can I use library that used android support with Androidx projects.

I added below two lines in gradle.properties file

android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true

then I got the following error

error: package android.support.v7.app does not exist
import android.support.v7.app.AlertDialog;
                         ^

I have removed the imports and added below line

import static android.app.AlertDialog.*;

And the classes which are extended from AppCompactActivity, added the below line. (For these errors you just need to press alt+enter in android studio which will import the correct library for you. Like this you can resolve all the errors)

import androidx.appcompat.app.AppCompatActivity;

In your xml file if you have used any

<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar

replace it with androidx.appcompat.widget.Toolbar

then in your java code

import androidx.appcompat.widget.Toolbar;

Comparator is a functional interface, and Integer::max complies with that interface (after autoboxing/unboxing is taken into consideration). It takes two int values and returns an int - just as you'd expect a Comparator<Integer> to (again, squinting to ignore the Integer/int difference).

However, I wouldn't expect it to do the right thing, given that Integer.max doesn't comply with the semantics of Comparator.compare. And indeed it doesn't really work in general. For example, make one small change:

for (int i = 1; i <= 20; i++)
    list.add(-i);

... and now the max value is -20 and the min value is -1.

Instead, both calls should use Integer::compare:

System.out.println(list.stream().max(Integer::compare).get());
System.out.println(list.stream().min(Integer::compare).get());

How to execute a .bat file from a C# windows form app?

Here is what you are looking for:

Service hangs up at WaitForExit after calling batch file

It's about a question as to why a service can't execute a file, but it shows all the code necessary to do so.

Invariant Violation: Objects are not valid as a React child

I had the same problem because I didn't put the props in the curly braces.

export default function Hero(children, hero ) {
    return (
        <header className={hero}>
            {children}
        </header>
    );
}

So if your code is similar to the above one then you will get this error. To resolve this just put curly braces around the props.

export default function Hero({ children, hero }) {
    return (
        <header className={hero}>
            {children}
        </header>
    );
}

How do you determine what technology a website is built on?

There are all sorts of things you can look out for, but it doesn't really give you any certainty as to the technology behind a site. In general, information like that is something people will want to hide, as the more information that is exposed the easier it might be for malicious parties to identify security vulnerabilities or denial of service holes.

If I was interested I'd probably look, in no particular order, at:

  • urls, and file extensions.
  • HTTP response headers
  • Source code for comments, or standard JS libraries

Incidentally, the tools mentioned in other answers are only looking at some of the above properties of the site for you, albeit automatically, and slightly quicker. :)

.do extension in web pages?

I've occasionally thought that it might serve a purpose to add a layer of security by obscuring the back-end interpreter through a remapping of .php or whatever to .aspx or whatever so that any potential hacker would be sent down the wrong path, at least for a while. I never bothered to try it and I don't do a lot of webserver work any more so I'm unlikely to.

However, I'd be interested in the perspective of an experienced server admin on that notion.

Checking if an Android application is running in the background

To piggyback on what CommonsWare and Key have said, you could perhaps extend the Application class and have all of your activities call that on their onPause/onResume methods. This would allow you to know which Activity(ies) are visible, but this could probably be handled better.

Can you elaborate on what you have in mind exactly? When you say running in the background do you mean simply having your application still in memory even though it is not currently on screen? Have you looked into using Services as a more persistent way to manage your app when it is not in focus?

Remote debugging a Java application

For JDK 1.3 or earlier :

-Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=6006

For JDK 1.4

-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=6006

For newer JDK :

-agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=6006

Please change the port number based on your needs.

From java technotes

From 5.0 onwards the -agentlib:jdwp option is used to load and specify options to the JDWP agent. For releases prior to 5.0, the -Xdebug and -Xrunjdwp options are used (the 5.0 implementation also supports the -Xdebug and -Xrunjdwp options but the newer -agentlib:jdwp option is preferable as the JDWP agent in 5.0 uses the JVM TI interface to the VM rather than the older JVMDI interface)

One more thing to note, from JVM Tool interface documentation:

JVM TI was introduced at JDK 5.0. JVM TI replaces the Java Virtual Machine Profiler Interface (JVMPI) and the Java Virtual Machine Debug Interface (JVMDI) which, as of JDK 6, are no longer provided.

Change New Google Recaptcha (v2) Width

I have found following best ways to resize google recaptchas

Option 1: You can resize google ReCaptcha by using inline style.

A very first way for resizing google recapture by using inline style. Inline styles are CSS styles that are applied to one element, directly in the page's HTML, using the style attribute. Here is the example that shows you how you to style Google reCAPTCHA by using inline style.

<div class="g-recaptcha" style="transform: scale(0.77); -webkit-transform: scale(0.77); transform-origin: 0 0; -webkit-transform-origin: 0 0;" data-theme="light" data-sitekey="XXXXXXXXXXXXX"></div>

Option 2: By putting the following style in your page (Internal Style Sheet).

Secondly, you can put style for ReCaptcha into the page between and . An internal style sheet is a section on an HTML page that contains style definitions. Internal style sheets are defined by using the tag within the area of the document. Here is the example that shows you how you to style Google reCAPTCHA by using an external style sheet.

<style type="text/css">
.g-recaptcha{
transform:scale(0.77);
-webkit-transform:scale(0.77);
transform-origin:0 0;
-webkit-transform-origin:0 0;
}
</style>

Option 3: Resize google ReCaptcha by using an external stylesheet.

Create a separate file and give a name like style.css and add this file link in between your an element in your page. For ex. .

<style type="text/css">
.g-recaptcha{
transform:scale(0.77);
-webkit-transform:scale(0.77);
transform-origin:0 0;
-webkit-transform-origin:0 0;
}
</style>

How to fix nginx throws 400 bad request headers on any header testing tools?

When nginx returns 400(bad request) it will log the reason into error log, at "info" level and take a look into error log when testing.

When 1 px border is added to div, Div size increases, Don't want to do that

I usually use padding to resolve this issue. The padding will be added when border disappears and removed when border appears. Sample code:

.good-border {
  padding: 1px;
}

.good-border:hover {
  padding: 0px;
  border: 1px solid blue;
}

Git error: src refspec master does not match any error: failed to push some refs

One classic root cause for this message is:

  • when the repo has been initialized (git init lis4368/assignments),
  • but no commit has ever been made

Ie, if you don't have added and committed at least once, there won't be a local master branch to push to.

Try first to create a commit:

  • either by adding (git add .) then git commit -m "first commit"
    (assuming you have the right files in place to add to the index)
  • or by create a first empty commit: git commit --allow-empty -m "Initial empty commit"

And then try git push -u origin master again.

See "Why do I need to explicitly push a new branch?" for more.

Cut off text in string after/before separator in powershell

This does work for a specific delimiter for a specific amount of characters between the delimiter. I had many issues attempting to use this in a for each loop where the position changed but the delimiter was the same. For example I was using the backslash as the delimiter and wanted to only use everything to the right of the backslash. The issue was that once the position was defined (71 characters from the beginning) it would use $pos as 71 every time regardless of where the delimiter actually was in the script. I found another method of using a delimiter and .split to break things up then used the split variable to call the sections For instance the first section was $variable[0] and the second section was $variable[1].

Async/Await Class Constructor

    }
}

const getInstance = async (arg) => {
    let instance = new Instance();
    await asyncMethod.call(instance, arg);
    return instance;
}

Send POST data on redirect with JavaScript/jQuery?

per @Kevin-Reid's answer, here's an alternative to the "I ended up doing the following" example that avoids needing to name and then lookup the form object again by constructing the form specifically (using jQuery)..

var url = 'http://example.com/vote/' + Username;
var form = $('<form action="' + url + '" method="post">' +
  '<input type="text" name="api_url" value="' + Return_URL + '" />' +
  '</form>');
$('body').append(form);

How do I clone into a non-empty directory?

I have used this a few moments ago, requires the least potentially destructive commands:

git clone --bare repo-to-clone .git
git config --unset core.bare
git remote rm origin
git remote add origin repo-to-clone
git reset

And voilá!

Windows equivalent of linux cksum command

In combination of answers of @Cassian and @Hllitec and from https://stackoverflow.com/a/42706309/1001717 here my solution, where I put (only!) the checksum value into a variable for further processing:

for /f "delims=" %i in ('certutil -v -hashfile myPackage.nupkg SHA256 ^| find /i /v "sha256" ^| find /i /v "certutil"') do set myVar=%i

To test the output you can add a piped echo command with the var:

for /f "delims=" %i in ('certutil -v -hashfile myPackage.nupkg SHA256 ^| find /i /v "sha256" ^| find /i /v "certutil"') do set myVar=%i | echo %myVar%

A bit off-topic, but FYI: I used this before uploading my NuGet package to Artifactory. BTW. as alternative you can use JFrog CLI, where checksum is calculated automatically.

pdftk compression option

I had the same problem and found two different solutions (see this thread for more details). Both reduced the size of my uncompressed PDF dramatically.

  • Pixelated (lossy):

    convert input.pdf -compress Zip output.pdf

  • Unpixelated (lossless, but may display slightly differently):

    gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/screen -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH  -dQUIET -sOutputFile=output.pdf input.pdf

Edit: I just discovered another option (for lossless compression), which avoids the nasty gs command. qpdf is a neat tool that converts PDFs (compression/decompression, encryption/decryption), and is much faster than the gs command:

qpdf --linearize input.pdf output.pdf

MySQL Join Where Not Exists

There are three possible ways to do that.

  1. Option

    SELECT  lt.* FROM    table_left lt
    LEFT JOIN
        table_right rt
    ON      rt.value = lt.value
    WHERE   rt.value IS NULL

  2. Option

    SELECT  lt.* FROM    table_left lt
    WHERE   lt.value NOT IN
    (
    SELECT  value
    FROM    table_right rt
    )

  3. Option

    SELECT  lt.* FROM    table_left lt
    WHERE   NOT EXISTS
    (
    SELECT  NULL
    FROM    table_right rt
    WHERE   rt.value = lt.value
    )

Does a foreign key automatically create an index?

It depends. On MySQL an index is created if you don't create it on your own:

MySQL requires that foreign key columns be indexed; if you create a table with a foreign key constraint but no index on a given column, an index is created.

Source: https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/constraint-foreign-key.html

The same for MySQL 5.6 eh.

using "if" and "else" Stored Procedures MySQL

I think that this construct: if exists (select... is specific for MS SQL. In MySQL EXISTS predicate tells you whether the subquery finds any rows and it's used like this: SELECT column1 FROM t1 WHERE EXISTS (SELECT * FROM t2);

You can rewrite the above lines of code like this:

DELIMITER $$

CREATE PROCEDURE `checando`(in nombrecillo varchar(30), in contrilla varchar(30), out resultado int)

BEGIN
    DECLARE count_prim INT;
    DECLARE count_sec INT;

    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO count_prim FROM compas WHERE nombre = nombrecillo AND contrasenia = contrilla;
    SELECT COUNT(*) INTO count_sec FROM FROM compas WHERE nombre = nombrecillo;

    if (count_prim > 0) then
        set resultado = 0;
    elseif (count_sec > 0) then
        set resultado = -1;
    else
        set resultado = -2;
    end if;
    SELECT resultado;
END

Get item in the list in Scala?

Why parentheses?

Here is the quote from the book programming in scala.

Another important idea illustrated by this example will give you insight into why arrays are accessed with parentheses in Scala. Scala has fewer special cases than Java. Arrays are simply instances of classes like any other class in Scala. When you apply parentheses surrounding one or more values to a variable, Scala will transform the code into an invocation of a method named apply on that variable. So greetStrings(i) gets transformed into greetStrings.apply(i). Thus accessing an element of an array in Scala is simply a method call like any other. This principle is not restricted to arrays: any application of an object to some arguments in parentheses will be transformed to an apply method call. Of course this will compile only if that type of object actually defines an apply method. So it's not a special case; it's a general rule.

Here are a few examples how to pull certain element (first elem in this case) using functional programming style.

  // Create a multdimension Array
  scala> val a = Array.ofDim[String](2, 3)
  a: Array[Array[String]] = Array(Array(null, null, null), Array(null, null, null))
  scala> a(0) = Array("1","2","3")
  scala> a(1) = Array("4", "5", "6")
  scala> a
  Array[Array[String]] = Array(Array(1, 2, 3), Array(4, 5, 6))

  // 1. paratheses
  scala> a.map(_(0))
  Array[String] = Array(1, 4)
  // 2. apply
  scala> a.map(_.apply(0))
  Array[String] = Array(1, 4)
  // 3. function literal
  scala> a.map(a => a(0))
  Array[String] = Array(1, 4)
  // 4. lift
  scala> a.map(_.lift(0))
  Array[Option[String]] = Array(Some(1), Some(4))
  // 5. head or last
  scala> a.map(_.head)
  Array[String] = Array(1, 4)

Quickly create large file on a Windows system

I was looking for a way to create a large dummy file with space allocation recently. All of the solutions look awkward. Finally I just started the DISKPART utility in Windows (embedded since Windows Vista):

Where MAXIMUM is the resulting file size, 20 GB here.

The static keyword and its various uses in C++

What does it mean with local variable? Is that a function local variable?

Yes - Non-global, such as a function local variable.

Because there's also that when you declare a function local as static that it is only initialized once, the first time it enters this function.

Right.

It also only talks about storage duration with regards to class members, what about it being non instance specific, that's also a property of static no? Or is that storage duration?

class R { static int a; }; // << static lives for the duration of the program

that is to say, all instances of R share int R::a -- int R::a is never copied.

Now what about the case with static and file scope?

Effectively a global which has constructor/destructor where appropriate -- initialization is not deferred until access.

How does static relate to the linkage of a variable?

For a function local, it is external. Access: It's accessible to the function (unless of course, you return it).

For a class, it is external. Access: Standard access specifiers apply (public, protected, private).

static can also specify internal linkage, depending on where it's declared (file/namespace).

This whole static keyword is downright confusing

It has too many purposes in C++.

can someone clarify the different uses for it English and also tell me when to initialize a static class member?

It's automatically initialized before main if it's loaded and has a constructor. That might sound like a good thing, but initialization order is largely beyond your control, so complex initialization becomes very difficult to maintain, and you want to minimize this -- if you must have a static, then function local scales much better across libraries and projects. As far as data with static storage duration, you should try to minimize this design, particularly if mutable (global variables). Initialization 'time' also varies for a number of reasons -- the loader and kernel have some tricks to minimize memory footprints and defer initialization, depending on the data in question.

SVG gradient using CSS

Thank you everyone, for all your precise replys.

Using the svg in a shadow dom, I add the 3 linear gradients I need within the svg, inside a . I place the css fill rule on the web component and the inheritance od fill does the job.

Difference between decimal, float and double in .NET?

The main difference between each of these is the precision.

float is a 32-bit number, double is a 64-bit number and decimal is a 128-bit number.

How do I encode URI parameter values?

Update built-in vim on Mac OS X

This blog post was helpful for me. I used the "Homebrew built Vim" solution, which in my case saved the new version in /usr/local/bin. At this point, the post suggested hiding the system vim, which didn't work for me, so I used an alias instead.

$ brew install vim
$ alias vim='/path/to/new/vim
$ which vim
vim: aliased to /path/to/new/vim

Mocking a class: Mock() or patch()?

I've got a YouTube video on this.

Short answer: Use mock when you're passing in the thing that you want mocked, and patch if you're not. Of the two, mock is strongly preferred because it means you're writing code with proper dependency injection.

Silly example:

# Use a mock to test this.
my_custom_tweeter(twitter_api, sentence):
    sentence.replace('cks','x')   # We're cool and hip.
    twitter_api.send(sentence)

# Use a patch to mock out twitter_api. You have to patch the Twitter() module/class
# and have it return a mock. Much uglier, but sometimes necessary.
my_badly_written_tweeter(sentence):
    twitter_api = Twitter(user="XXX", password="YYY")
    sentence.replace('cks','x')
    twitter_api.send(sentence)

Asp.NET Web API - 405 - HTTP verb used to access this page is not allowed - how to set handler mappings

How to create a connection string in asp.net c#

Demo :

<connectionStrings>
<add name="myConnectionString" connectionString="server=localhost;database=myDb;uid=myUser;password=myPass;" />
</connectionStrings>

Based on your question:

<connectionStrings>
    <add name="itmall" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=D:\19-02\ABCC\App_Data\abcc.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" />
    </connectionStrings>

Refer links:

http://www.connectionstrings.com/store-connection-string-in-webconfig/

Retrive connection string from web.config file:

write the below code in your file where you want;

string connstring=ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["itmall"].ConnectionString;

SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(connstring);

or you can go in your way like

SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["itmall"].ConnectionString);

Note:

The "name" which you gave in web.config file and name which you used in connection string must be same(like "itmall" in this solution.)

How to "properly" create a custom object in JavaScript?

Douglas Crockford discusses that topic extensively in The Good Parts. He recommends to avoid the new operator to create new objects. Instead he proposes to create customized constructors. For instance:

var mammal = function (spec) {
   var that = {};
   that.get_name = function (  ) {
      return spec.name;
   };
   that.says = function (  ) {
      return spec.saying || '';
   };
   return that;
};

var myMammal = mammal({name: 'Herb'});

In Javascript a function is an object, and can be used to construct objects out of together with the new operator. By convention, functions intended to be used as constructors start with a capital letter. You often see things like:

function Person() {
   this.name = "John";
   return this;
}

var person = new Person();
alert("name: " + person.name);**

In case you forget to use the new operator while instantiating a new object, what you get is an ordinary function call, and this is bound to the global object instead to the new object.

Regular expressions inside SQL Server

Try this

select * from mytable
where p1 not like '%[^0-9]%' and substring(p1,1,1)='5'

Of course, you'll need to adjust the substring value, but the rest should work...

Replace words in a string - Ruby

If you're dealing with natural language text and need to replace a word, not just part of a string, you have to add a pinch of regular expressions to your gsub as a plain text substitution can lead to disastrous results:

'mislocated cat, vindicating'.gsub('cat', 'dog')
=> "mislodoged dog, vindidoging"

Regular expressions have word boundaries, such as \b which matches start or end of a word. Thus,

'mislocated cat, vindicating'.gsub(/\bcat\b/, 'dog')
=> "mislocated dog, vindicating"

In Ruby, unlike some other languages like Javascript, word boundaries are UTF-8-compatible, so you can use it for languages with non-Latin or extended Latin alphabets:

'???? ? ??????, ??? ??????'.gsub(/\b????\b/, '?????')
=> "????? ? ??????, ??? ??????"

How can I do an asc and desc sort using underscore.js?

Descending order using underscore can be done by multiplying the return value by -1.

//Ascending Order:
_.sortBy([2, 3, 1], function(num){
    return num;
}); // [1, 2, 3]

//Descending Order:
_.sortBy([2, 3, 1], function(num){
    return num * -1;
}); // [3, 2, 1]

If you're sorting by strings not numbers, you can use the charCodeAt() method to get the unicode value.

//Descending Order Strings:
_.sortBy(['a', 'b', 'c'], function(s){
    return s.charCodeAt() * -1;
});

Using RegEX To Prefix And Append In Notepad++

Assuming alphanumeric words, you can use:

Search  = ^([A-Za-z0-9]+)$
Replace = able:"\1"

Or, if you just want to highlight the lines and use "Replace All" & "In Selection" (with the same replace):

Search = ^(.+)$

^ points to the start of the line.
$ points to the end of the line.

\1 will be the source match within the parentheses.

How to compare two files in Notepad++ v6.6.8

There is the "Compare" plugin. You can install it via Plugins > Plugin Manager.

Alternatively you can install a specialized file compare software like WinMerge.

plot different color for different categorical levels using matplotlib

With df.plot()

Normally when quickly plotting a DataFrame, I use pd.DataFrame.plot(). This takes the index as the x value, the value as the y value and plots each column separately with a different color. A DataFrame in this form can be achieved by using set_index and unstack.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import pandas as pd

carat = [5, 10, 20, 30, 5, 10, 20, 30, 5, 10, 20, 30]
price = [100, 100, 200, 200, 300, 300, 400, 400, 500, 500, 600, 600]
color =['D', 'D', 'D', 'E', 'E', 'E', 'F', 'F', 'F', 'G', 'G', 'G',]

df = pd.DataFrame(dict(carat=carat, price=price, color=color))

df.set_index(['color', 'carat']).unstack('color')['price'].plot(style='o')
plt.ylabel('price')

plot

With this method you do not have to manually specify the colors.

This procedure may make more sense for other data series. In my case I have timeseries data, so the MultiIndex consists of datetime and categories. It is also possible to use this approach for more than one column to color by, but the legend is getting a mess.

How to solve SQL Server Error 1222 i.e Unlock a SQL Server table

I had these SQL behavior settings enabled on options query execution: ANSI SET IMPLICIT_TRANSACTIONS checked. On execution of your query e.g create, alter table or stored procedure, you have to COMMIT it.

Just type COMMIT and execute it F5

SQL Error: ORA-00942 table or view does not exist

Here is an answer: http://www.dba-oracle.com/concepts/synonyms.htm

An Oracle synonym basically allows you to create a pointer to an object that exists somewhere else. You need Oracle synonyms because when you are logged into Oracle, it looks for all objects you are querying in your schema (account). If they are not there, it will give you an error telling you that they do not exist.

sudo apt install php7.3-mysql

How do you UDP multicast in Python?

To make the client code (from tolomea) work on Solaris you need to pass the ttl value for the IP_MULTICAST_TTL socket option as an unsigned char. Otherwise you will get an error. This worked for me on Solaris 10 and 11:

import socket
import struct

MCAST_GRP = '224.1.1.1'
MCAST_PORT = 5007
ttl = struct.pack('B', 2)

sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_DGRAM, socket.IPPROTO_UDP)
sock.setsockopt(socket.IPPROTO_IP, socket.IP_MULTICAST_TTL, ttl)
sock.sendto("robot", (MCAST_GRP, MCAST_PORT))

How do I pass environment variables to Docker containers?

Use -e or --env value to set environment variables (default []).

An example from a startup script:

 docker run -e myhost='localhost' -it busybox sh

If you want to use multiple environments from the command line then before every environment variable use the -e flag.

Example:

 sudo docker run -d -t -i -e NAMESPACE='staging' -e PASSWORD='foo' busybox sh

Note: Make sure put the container name after the environment variable, not before that.

If you need to set up many variables, use the --env-file flag

For example,

 $ docker run --env-file ./my_env ubuntu bash

For any other help, look into the Docker help:

 $ docker run --help

Official documentation: https://docs.docker.com/compose/environment-variables/

how to make a jquery "$.post" request synchronous

From the Jquery docs: you specify the async option to be false to get a synchronous Ajax request. Then your callback can set some data before your mother function proceeds.

Here's what your code would look like if changed as suggested:

beforecreate: function(node,targetNode,type,to) {
    jQuery.ajax({
         url:    url,
         success: function(result) {
                      if(result.isOk == false)
                          alert(result.message);
                  },
         async:   false
    });
}

this is because $.ajax is the only request type that you can set the asynchronousity for

Printing hexadecimal characters in C

You are probably printing from a signed char array. Either print from an unsigned char array or mask the value with 0xff: e.g. ar[i] & 0xFF. The c0 values are being sign extended because the high (sign) bit is set.

How can I test if a letter in a string is uppercase or lowercase using JavaScript?

You can also use this, it will check the string for lower and uppercase

var s = "a"
if(/[a-z]/.test(s)){
  alert ('lower case true');
}

if(/[A-Z]/.test(s)) {
 alert ('upper case true');
}

Testing Private method using mockito

Not possible through mockito. From their wiki

Why Mockito doesn't mock private methods?

Firstly, we are not dogmatic about mocking private methods. We just don't care about private methods because from the standpoint of testing private methods don't exist. Here are a couple of reasons Mockito doesn't mock private methods:

It requires hacking of classloaders that is never bullet proof and it changes the api (you must use custom test runner, annotate the class, etc.).

It is very easy to work around - just change the visibility of method from private to package-protected (or protected).

It requires me to spend time implementing & maintaining it. And it does not make sense given point #2 and a fact that it is already implemented in different tool (powermock).

Finally... Mocking private methods is a hint that there is something wrong with OO understanding. In OO you want objects (or roles) to collaborate, not methods. Forget about pascal & procedural code. Think in objects.

How to set ssh timeout?

Well, you could use nohup to run whatever you are running on 'non-blocking mode'. So you can just keep checking if whatever it was supposed to run, ran, otherwise exit.

nohup ./my-script-that-may-take-long-to-finish.sh &
./check-if-previous-script-ran-or-exit.sh

echo "Script ended on Feb 15, 2011, 9:20AM" > /tmp/done.txt

So in the second one you just check if the file exists.

C++ equivalent of Java's toString?

As an extension to what John said, if you want to extract the string representation and store it in a std::string do this:

#include <sstream>
// ...
// Suppose a class A
A a;
std::stringstream sstream;
sstream << a;
std::string s = sstream.str(); // or you could use sstream >> s but that would skip out whitespace

std::stringstream is located in the <sstream> header.

How to prevent browser to invoke basic auth popup and handle 401 error using Jquery?

I was facing this issue recently, too. Since you can't change the browser's default behavior of showing the popup in case of a 401 (basic or digest authentication), there are two ways to fix this:

  • Change the server response to not return a 401. Return a 200 code instead and handle this in your jQuery client.
  • Change the method that you're using for authorization to a custom value in your header. Browsers will display the popup for Basic and Digest. You have to change this on both the client and the server.

    headers : {
      "Authorization" : "BasicCustom"
    }

Please also take a look at this for an example of using jQuery with Basic Auth.

Jquery - How to make $.post() use contentType=application/json?

The "json" datatype that you can pass as the last parameter to post() indicates what type of data the function is expecting in the server's response, not what type it's sending in the request. Specifically it sets the "Accept" header.

Honestly your best bet is to switch to an ajax() call. The post() function is meant as a convenience; a simplified version of the ajax() call for when you are just doing a simple form posting. You aren't.

If you really don't want to switch, you could make your own function called, say, xpost(), and have it simply transform the given parameters into parameters for a jQuery ajax() call, with the content-type set. That way, rather than rewriting all of those post() functions into ajax() functions, you just have to change them all from post to xpost (or whatever).

Typescript import/as vs import/require?

import * as express from "express";

This is the suggested way of doing it because it is the standard for JavaScript (ES6/2015) since last year.

In any case, in your tsconfig.json file, you should target the module option to commonjs which is the format supported by nodejs.

Filtering Pandas DataFrames on dates

And if your dates are standardized by importing datetime package, you can simply use:

df[(df['date']>datetime.date(2016,1,1)) & (df['date']<datetime.date(2016,3,1))]

For standarding your date string using datetime package, you can use this function:

import datetime
datetime.datetime.strptime

How can I capitalize the first letter of each word in a string using JavaScript?

I think this way should be faster; cause it doesn't split string and join it again; just using regex.

var str = text.replace(/(^\w{1})|(\s{1}\w{1})/g, match => match.toUpperCase());

Explanation:

  1. (^\w{1}): match first char of string
  2. |: or
  3. (\s{1}\w{1}): match one char that came after one space
  4. g: match all
  5. match => match.toUpperCase(): replace with can take function, so; replace match with upper case match

How do I check if string contains substring?

Like this:

if (str.indexOf("Yes") >= 0)

...or you can use the tilde operator:

if (~str.indexOf("Yes"))

This works because indexOf() returns -1 if the string wasn't found at all.

Note that this is case-sensitive.
If you want a case-insensitive search, you can write

if (str.toLowerCase().indexOf("yes") >= 0)

Or:

if (/yes/i.test(str))

Resize image with javascript canvas (smoothly)

You can use down-stepping to achieve better results. Most browsers seem to use linear interpolation rather than bi-cubic when resizing images.

(Update There has been added a quality property to the specs, imageSmoothingQuality which is currently available in Chrome only.)

Unless one chooses no smoothing or nearest neighbor the browser will always interpolate the image after down-scaling it as this function as a low-pass filter to avoid aliasing.

Bi-linear uses 2x2 pixels to do the interpolation while bi-cubic uses 4x4 so by doing it in steps you can get close to bi-cubic result while using bi-linear interpolation as seen in the resulting images.

Python memory leaks

You should specially have a look on your global or static data (long living data).

When this data grows without restriction, you can also get troubles in Python.

The garbage collector can only collect data, that is not referenced any more. But your static data can hookup data elements that should be freed.

Another problem can be memory cycles, but at least in theory the Garbage collector should find and eliminate cycles -- at least as long as they are not hooked on some long living data.

What kinds of long living data are specially troublesome? Have a good look on any lists and dictionaries -- they can grow without any limit. In dictionaries you might even don't see the trouble coming since when you access dicts, the number of keys in the dictionary might not be of big visibility to you ...

How to get build time stamp from Jenkins build variables?

I know its late replying to this question, but I have recently found a better solution to this problem without installing any plugin. We can create a formatted version number and can then use the variable created to display the build date/time. Steps to create: Build Environment --> Create a formatted version number:

  • Environment Variable Name: BUILD_DATE

  • Version Number Format String: ${BUILD_DATE_FORMATTED}

thats it. Just use the variable created above in the email subject line as ${ENV, var="BUILD_DATE"} and you will get the date/time of the current build.

Display fullscreen mode on Tkinter

I think if you are looking for fullscreen only, no need to set geometry or maxsize etc.

You just need to do this:

-If you are working on ubuntu:

root=tk.Tk()
root.attributes('-zoomed', True)

-and if you are working on windows:

root.state('zoomed')

Now for toggling between fullscreen, for minimising it to taskbar you can use:

Root.iconify()

Remove CSS from a Div using JQuery

I used the second solution of user147767

However, there is a typo here. It should be

curCssName.toUpperCase().indexOf(cssName.toUpperCase() + ':') < 0

not <= 0

I also changed this condition for:

!curCssName.match(new RegExp(cssName + "(-.+)?:"), "mi")

as sometimes we add a css property over jQuery, and it's added in a different way for different browsers (i.e. the border property will be added as "border" for Firefox, and "border-top", "border-bottom" etc for IE).

 [0.0, 2.93, 520.0, 4.0]]

Restart pods when configmap updates in Kubernetes?

The best way I've found to do it is run Reloader

It allows you to define configmaps or secrets to watch, when they get updated, a rolling update of your deployment is performed. Here's an example:

You have a deployment foo and a ConfigMap called foo-configmap. You want to roll the pods of the deployment every time the configmap is changed. You need to run Reloader with:

kubectl apply -f https://raw.githubusercontent.com/stakater/Reloader/master/deployments/kubernetes/reloader.yaml

Then specify this annotation in your deployment:

kind: Deployment
metadata:
  annotations:
    configmap.reloader.stakater.com/reload: "foo-configmap"
  name: foo
...

            } else {
                var inputStream = fs.createReadStream(from);
                var outputStream = fs.createWriteStream(to);

                function rejectCleanup(error) {

Spring MVC: difference between <context:component-scan> and <annotation-driven /> tags?

<context:component-scan base-package="" />

tells Spring to scan those packages for Annotations.

<mvc:annotation-driven>

registers a RequestMappingHanderMapping, a RequestMappingHandlerAdapter, and an ExceptionHandlerExceptionResolver to support the annotated controller methods like @RequestMapping, @ExceptionHandler, etc. that come with MVC.

This also enables a ConversionService that supports Annotation driven formatting of outputs as well as Annotation driven validation for inputs. It also enables support for @ResponseBody which you can use to return JSON data.

You can accomplish the same things using Java-based Configuration using @ComponentScan(basePackages={"...", "..."} and @EnableWebMvc in a @Configuration class.

Check out the 3.1 documentation to learn more.

Changing image size in Markdown

When using Flask (I am using it with flat pages)... I found that enabling explicitly (was not by default for some reason) 'attr_list' in extensions within the call to markdown does the trick - and then one can use the attributes (very useful also to access CSS - class="my class" for example...).

FLATPAGES_HTML_RENDERER = prerender_jinja

and the function:

def prerender_jinja(text):
    prerendered_body = render_template_string(Markup(text))
    pygmented_body   = markdown.markdown(prerendered_body, extensions=['codehilite', 'fenced_code', 'tables', 'attr_list'])
    return pygmented_body

And then in Markdown:

Javascript document.getElementById("id").value returning null instead of empty string when the element is an empty text box

{
    //code to set the value variable.

f.set(objectOfTheClass, new ConcurrentHashMap<>());

You can't set any value in null Object If tried then it will result in NullPointerException

Note: Setting a field's value via reflection has a certain amount of performance overhead because various operations must occur such as validating access permissions. From the runtime's point of view, the effects are the same, and the operation is as atomic as if the value was changed in the class code directly.

How to read Data from Excel sheet in selenium webdriver

Don't know about what the error you are facing exactly. But log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger error, is due to the log4j jar file that you have included in your project.

Initializing log4j is needed but actually Log4j is not necessary for your project. So Right click on your Project → Properties → Java Build Path → Libraries.. Search for log4j jar file and remove it.

Hope it will work fine now.

How to markdown nested list items in Bitbucket?

Even a single space works

...Just open this answer for edit to see it.

Nested lists, deeper levels: ---- leave here an empty row * first level A item - no space in front the bullet character * second level Aa item - 1 space is enough * third level Aaa item - 5 spaces min * second level Ab item - 4 spaces possible too * first level B item

How to downgrade python from 3.7 to 3.6

I would just recommend creating a new virtual environment and installing all the packages from the start as the wheels for some packages might have been installed for the previous version of the Python. I believe this is the safest way and you have two options.

  1. Creating a new virtual environment with venv:

    python3.6 -m venv -n new_env
    source venv_env/bin/activate

  2. Creating a conda environment:

    conda create -n new_env python=3.6
    conda activate new_env

The packages you install in an environment are built based on the Python version of the environment and if you do not carefully modify the existing environment, then, you can cause some incompatibilities between packages. That is why I would recommend a using a new environment built with Python 3.6.

How to get the exact local time of client?

The most reliable way I've found to display the local time of a city or location is by tapping into a Time Zone API such as Google Time Zone API. It returns the correct time zone, and more importantly, Day Light Savings Time offset of any location, which just using JavaScript's Date() object cannot be done as far as I'm aware. There's a good tutorial on using the API to get and display the local time here:

var loc = '35.731252, 139.730291' // Tokyo expressed as lat,lng tuple
var targetDate = new Date() // Current date/time of user computer
var timestamp = targetDate.getTime() / 1000 + targetDate.getTimezoneOffset() * 60 // Current UTC date/time expressed as seconds since midnight, January 1, 1970 UTC
var apikey = 'YOUR_TIMEZONE_API_KEY_HERE'
var apicall = 'https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/timezone/json?location=' + loc + '&timestamp=' + timestamp + '&key=' + apikey

var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest() // create new XMLHttpRequest2 object
xhr.open('GET', apicall) // open GET request
xhr.onload = function() {
  if (xhr.status === 200) { // if Ajax request successful
    var output = JSON.parse(xhr.responseText) // convert returned JSON string to JSON object
    console.log(output.status) // log API return status for debugging purposes
    if (output.status == 'OK') { // if API reports everything was returned successfully
      var offsets = output.dstOffset * 1000 + output.rawOffset * 1000 // get DST and time zone offsets in milliseconds
      var localdate = new Date(timestamp * 1000 + offsets) // Date object containing current time of Tokyo (timestamp + dstOffset + rawOffset)
      console.log(localdate.toLocaleString()) // Display current Tokyo date and time
    }
  } else {
    alert('Request failed.  Returned status of ' + xhr.status)
  }
}
xhr.send() // send request

How to manually force a commit in a @Transactional method?

I know that due to this ugly anonymous inner class usage of TransactionTemplate doesn't look nice, but when for some reason we want to have a test method transactional IMHO it is the most flexible option.

In some cases (it depends on the application type) the best way to use transactions in Spring tests is a turned-off @Transactional on the test methods. Why? Because @Transactional may leads to many false-positive tests. You may look at this sample article to find out details. In such cases TransactionTemplate can be perfect for controlling transaction boundries when we want that control.

How to get HTTP response code for a URL in Java?

This is what worked for me:

import java.io.IOException;
import java.net.HttpURLConnection;
import java.net.URL;

public class UrlHelpers {

    public static int getHTTPResponseStatusCode(String u) throws IOException {

        URL url = new URL(u);
        HttpURLConnection http = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
        return http.getResponseCode();
    }
}

Hope this helps someone :)

How do I make a fully statically linked .exe with Visual Studio Express 2005?

In regards Jared's response, having Windows 2000 or better will not necessarily fix the issue at hand. Rob's response does work, however it is possible that this fix introduces security issues, as Windows updates will not be able to patch applications built as such.

In another post, Nick Guerrera suggests packaging the Visual C++ Runtime Redistributable with your applications, which installs quickly, and is independent of Visual Studio.

SQL datetime format to date only

After perusing your previous questions I eventually determined you are probably on SQL Server 2005. For US format you would use style 101

select Subject,
       CONVERT(varchar,DeliveryDate,101) as DeliveryDate
from Email_Administration
where MerchantId =@MerchantID

How to get subarray from array?

For a simple use of slice, use my extension to Array Class:

Array.prototype.subarray = function(start, end) {
    if (!end) { end = -1; }
    return this.slice(start, this.length + 1 - (end * -1));
};

Then:

var bigArr = ["a", "b", "c", "fd", "ze"];

Test1:

bigArr.subarray(1, -1);

< ["b", "c", "fd", "ze"]

Test2:

bigArr.subarray(2, -2);

< ["c", "fd"]

Test3:

bigArr.subarray(2);

< ["c", "fd","ze"]

Might be easier for developers coming from another language (i.e. Groovy).

Update using LINQ to SQL

LINQ is a query tool (Q = Query) - so there is no magic LINQ way to update just the single row, except through the (object-oriented) data-context (in the case of LINQ-to-SQL). To update data, you need to fetch it out, update the record, and submit the changes:

using(var ctx = new FooContext()) {
    var obj = ctx.Bars.Single(x=>x.Id == id);
    obj.SomeProp = 123;
    ctx.SubmitChanges();
}

Or write an SP that does the same in TSQL, and expose the SP through the data-context:

using(var ctx = new FooContext()) {
    ctx.UpdateBar(id, 123);
}

How do you view ALL text from an ntext or nvarchar(max) in SSMS?

Options (Query Results/SQL Server/Results to Grid Page)

To change the options for the current queries, click Query Options on the Query menu, or right-click in the SQL Server Query window and select Query Options.

...

Maximum Characters Retrieved
Enter a number from 1 through 65535 to specify the maximum number of characters that will be displayed in each cell.

Maximum is, as you see, 64k. The default is much smaller.

BTW Results to Text has even more drastic limitation:

Maximum number of characters displayed in each column
This value defaults to 256. Increase this value to display larger result sets without truncation. The maximum value is 8,192.

Length of array in function argument

This is a old question, and the OP seems to mix C++ and C in his intends/examples. In C, when you pass a array to a function, it's decayed to pointer. So, there is no way to pass the array size except by using a second argument in your function that stores the array size:

void func(int A[])
// should be instead: void func(int * A, const size_t elemCountInA)

They are very few cases, where you don't need this, like when you're using multidimensional arrays:

void func(int A[3][whatever here]) // That's almost as if read "int* A[3]"

Using the array notation in a function signature is still useful, for the developer, as it might be an help to tell how many elements your functions expects. For example:

void vec_add(float out[3], float in0[3], float in1[3])

is easier to understand than this one (although, nothing prevent accessing the 4th element in the function in both functions):

void vec_add(float * out, float * in0, float * in1)

If you were to use C++, then you can actually capture the array size and get what you expect:

template <size_t N>
void vec_add(float (&out)[N], float (&in0)[N], float (&in1)[N])
{
    for (size_t i = 0; i < N; i++)
        out[i] = in0[i] + in1[i];
}

In that case, the compiler will ensure that you're not adding a 4D vector with a 2D vector (which is not possible in C without passing the dimension of each dimension as arguments of the function). There will be as many instance of the vec_add function as the number of dimensions used for your vectors.
