Playing a MP3 file in a WinForm application

The link below, gives a very good tutorial, about playing mp3 files from a windows form with c#:

http://www.daniweb.com/software-development/csharp/threads/292695/playing-mp3-in-c

This link will lead you to a topic, which contains a lot information about how to play an mp3 song, using Windows forms. It also contains a lot of other projects, trying to achieve the same thing:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/csharpgeneral/thread/3dbfb9a3-4e14-41d1-afbb-1790420706fe

For example use this code for .mp3:

WMPLib.WindowsMediaPlayer wplayer = new WMPLib.WindowsMediaPlayer();

wplayer.URL = "My MP3 file.mp3";
wplayer.Controls.Play();

Then only put the wplayer.Controls.Play(); in the Button_Click event.

For example use this code for .wav:

System.Media.SoundPlayer player = new System.Media.SoundPlayer();

player.SoundLocation = "Sound.wav";
player.Play();

Put the player.Play(); in the Button_Click event, and it will work.

Using COALESCE to handle NULL values in PostgreSQL

If you're using 0 and an empty string '' and null to designate undefined you've got a data problem. Just update the columns and fix your schema.

UPDATE pt.incentive_channel
SET   pt.incentive_marketing = NULL
WHERE pt.incentive_marketing = '';

UPDATE pt.incentive_channel
SET   pt.incentive_advertising = NULL
WHERE pt.incentive_marketing = '';

UPDATE pt.incentive_channel
SET   pt.incentive_channel = NULL
WHERE pt.incentive_marketing = '';

This will make joining and selecting substantially easier moving forward.

unable to dequeue a cell with identifier Cell - must register a nib or a class for the identifier or connect a prototype cell in a storyboard

My problem was I was registering table view cell inside dispatch queue asynchronously. If you have registered table view source and delegate reference in storyboard then dispatch queue would delay the registration of cell as name suggests it will happen asynchronously and your table view is looking for the cells.

DispatchQueue.main.async {
    self.tableView.register(CampaignTableViewCell.self, forCellReuseIdentifier: CampaignTableViewCell.identifier())
    self.tableView.reloadData()
}

Either you shouldn't use dispatch queue for registration OR do this:

DispatchQueue.main.async {
    self.tableView.dataSource = self
    self.tableView.delegate = self
    self.tableView.register(CampaignTableViewCell.self, forCellReuseIdentifier: CampaignTableViewCell.identifier())
    self.tableView.reloadData()
}

Escaping quotes and double quotes

Using the backtick (`) works fine for me if I put them in the following places:

$cmd="\\server\toto.exe -batch=B -param=`"sort1;parmtxt='Security ID=1234'`""

$cmd returns as:

\\server\toto.exe -batch=B -param="sort1;parmtxt='Security ID=1234'"

Is that what you were looking for?

The error PowerShell gave me referred to an unexpected token 'sort1', and that's how I determined where to put the backticks.

The @' ... '@ syntax is called a "here string" and will return exactly what is entered. You can also use them to populate variables in the following fashion:

$cmd=@'
"\\server\toto.exe -batch=B -param="sort1;parmtxt='Security ID=1234'""
'@

The opening and closing symbols must be on their own line as shown above.

Converting String to Double in Android

I had the same issue, but I have just figured out that :

  • parsing the EditText value in the Oncreate method caused the app to crash because when the app starts, there are no values to parse or maybe the placeholders which are letter.

My code:

package com.example.herodav.volumeapp;

import android.renderscript.Double2;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.*;
import android.widget.*;

import org.w3c.dom.Text;

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {

    EditText height, length, depth;
    TextView volume;
    double h,l,d,vol;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        height = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.h);
        length = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.l);
        depth = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.d);
        volume = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.v);

        Button btn = (Button)findViewById(R.id.btn);
        btn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View v) {
                calculateVolume();
                volume.setText("Volume = " + String.valueOf(vol));
            }
        });
    }

    public void calculateVolume(){
        h = Double.parseDouble(height.getText().toString());
        l = Double.parseDouble(length.getText().toString());
        d = Double.parseDouble(depth.getText().toString());
        vol = h*l*d;
    }

Convert List(of object) to List(of string)

If you want more control over how the conversion takes place, you can use ConvertAll:

Error when trying to access XAMPP from a network

In your xampppath\apache\conf\extra open file httpd-xampp.conf and find the below tag:

# Close XAMPP sites here
<LocationMatch "^/(?i:(?:xampp|licenses|phpmyadmin|webalizer|server-status|server-info))">

    Deny from all
    Allow from ::1 127.0.0.0/8

</LocationMatch>

and add

"Allow from all"

after Allow from ::1 127.0.0.0/8 {line}

Restart xampp, and you are done.

In later versions of Xampp

...you can simply remove this part

What causes a java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException and how do I prevent it?

This error is occurs at runs loop overlimit times.Let's consider simple example like this,

class demo{
  public static void main(String a[]){

    int[] numberArray={4,8,2,3,89,5};

    int i;

    for(i=0;i<numberArray.length;i++){
        System.out.print(numberArray[i+1]+"  ");
    }
}

At first, I have initialized an array as 'numberArray'. then , some array elements are printed using for loop. When loop is running 'i' time , print the (numberArray[i+1] element..(when i value is 1, numberArray[i+1] element is printed.)..Suppose that, when i=(numberArray.length-2), last element of array is printed..When 'i' value goes to (numberArray.length-1) , no value for printing..In that point , 'ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException' is occur.I hope to you could get idea.thank you !

What is the difference between primary, unique and foreign key constraints, and indexes?

Primary Key: identify uniquely every row it can not be null. it can not be a duplicate.

Foreign Key: create relationship between two tables. can be null. can be a duplicate

How do I replace multiple spaces with a single space in C#?

Parse String to Date with Different Format in Java

While SimpleDateFormat will indeed work for your needs, additionally you might want to check out Joda Time, which is apparently the basis for the redone Date library in Java 7. While I haven't used it a lot, I've heard nothing but good things about it and if your manipulating dates extensively in your projects it would probably be worth looking into.

How to perform Join between multiple tables in LINQ lambda

it has been a while but my answer may help someone:

if you already defined the relation properly you can use this:

        var res = query.Products.Select(m => new
        {
            productID = product.Id,
            categoryID = m.ProductCategory.Select(s => s.Category.ID).ToList(),
        }).ToList();

Is there a way to ignore a single FindBugs warning?

Here is a more complete example of an XML filter (the example above by itself will not work since it just shows a snippet and is missing the <FindBugsFilter> begin and end tags):

<FindBugsFilter>
    <Match>
        <Class name="com.mycompany.foo" />
        <Method name="bar" />
        <Bug pattern="NP_BOOLEAN_RETURN_NULL" />
    </Match>
</FindBugsFilter>

If you are using the Android Studio FindBugs plugin, browse to your XML filter file using File->Other Settings->Default Settings->Other Settings->FindBugs-IDEA->Filter->Exclude filter files->Add.

.NET Excel Library that can read/write .xls files

You may consider 3rd party tool that called Excel Jetcell .NET component for read/write excel files:

C# sample

// Create New Excel Workbook
ExcelWorkbook Wbook = new ExcelWorkbook();
ExcelCellCollection Cells = Wbook.Worksheets.Add("Sheet1").Cells;

Cells["A1"].Value = "Excel writer example (C#)";
Cells["A1"].Style.Font.Bold = true;
Cells["B1"].Value = "=550 + 5";

// Write Excel XLS file
Wbook.WriteXLS("excel_net.xls");

VB.NET sample

' Create New Excel Workbook
Dim Wbook As ExcelWorkbook = New ExcelWorkbook()
Dim Cells As ExcelCellCollection = Wbook.Worksheets.Add("Sheet1").Cells

Cells("A1").Value = "Excel writer example (C#)"
Cells("A1").Style.Font.Bold = True
Cells("B1").Value = "=550 + 5"

' Write Excel XLS file
Wbook.WriteXLS("excel_net.xls")

How can I push a specific commit to a remote, and not previous commits?

The simplest way to accomplish this is to use two commands.

First, get the local directory into the state that you want. Then,

$ git push origin +HEAD^:someBranch

removes the last commit from someBranch in the remote only, not local. You can do this a few times in a row, or change +HEAD^ to reflect the number of commits that you want to batch remove from remote. Now you're back on your feet, and use

$ git push origin someBranch

as normal to update the remote.

Early exit from function?

if you are looking for a script to avoid submitting form when some errors found, this method should work

function verifyData(){

          alert("Write something!");
     }
     else {
          document.MyForm.submit();

}

change the Submit Button type to "button"

<input value="Save" type="button" onClick="verifyData()">

Resize a large bitmap file to scaled output file on Android

Resize the bitmap using the following code

    public static Bitmap decodeFile(File file, int reqWidth, int reqHeight){

    // First decode with inJustDecodeBounds=true to check dimensions
    final BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
    options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
    BitmapFactory.decodeFile(file.getPath(), options);

    // Calculate inSampleSize
    options.inSampleSize = calculateInSampleSize(options, reqWidth, reqHeight);

    // Decode bitmap with inSampleSize set
    options.inJustDecodeBounds = false;
    return BitmapFactory.decodeFile(file.getPath(), options);
   }

    private static int calculateInSampleSize(
    BitmapFactory.Options options, int reqWidth, int reqHeight) {
    // Raw height and width of image
    final int height = options.outHeight;
    final int width = options.outWidth;
    int inSampleSize = 1;

    if (height > reqHeight || width > reqWidth) {

        // Calculate ratios of height and width to requested height and width
        final int heightRatio = Math.round((float) height / (float) reqHeight);
        final int widthRatio = Math.round((float) width / (float) reqWidth);

        // Choose the smallest ratio as inSampleSize value, this will guarantee
        // a final image with both dimensions larger than or equal to the
        // requested height and width.
        inSampleSize = heightRatio < widthRatio ? heightRatio : widthRatio;
     }

     return inSampleSize;
   }

How to open PDF file in a new tab or window instead of downloading it (using asp.net)?

Here I am using iTextSharp dll for generating PDF file. I want to open PDF file instead of downloading it. So I am using below code which is working fine for me. Now pdf file is opening in browser ,now dowloading

        Document pdfDoc = new Document(PageSize.A4, 25, 10, 25, 10);
        PdfWriter pdfWriter = PdfWriter.GetInstance(pdfDoc, Response.OutputStream);
        pdfDoc.Open();
        Paragraph Text = new Paragraph("Hi , This is Test Content");
        pdfDoc.Add(Text);
        pdfWriter.CloseStream = false;
        pdfDoc.Close();
        Response.Buffer = true;
        Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
        Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
        Response.End();

If you want to download file, add below line, after this Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";

Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=Example.pdf");

Attach IntelliJ IDEA debugger to a running Java process

Yes! Here is how you set it up.

Run Configuration

Create a Remote run configuration:

  1. Run -> Edit Configurations...
  2. Click the "+" in the upper left
  3. Select the "Remote" option in the left-most pane
  4. Choose a name (I named mine "remote-debugging")
  5. Click "OK" to save:

enter image description here

JVM Options

The configuration above provides three read-only fields. These are options that tell the JVM to open up port 5005 for remote debugging when running your application. Add the appropriate one to the JVM options of the application you are debugging. One way you might do this would be like so:

export JAVA_OPTS="-agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5005"

But it depends on how your run your application. If you're not sure which of the three applies to you, start with the first and go down the list until you find the one that works.

You can change suspend=n to suspend=y to force your application to wait until you connect with IntelliJ before it starts up. This is helpful if the breakpoint you want to hit occurs on application startup.

Debug

Start your application as you would normally, then in IntelliJ select the new configuration and hit 'Debug'.

enter image description here

IntelliJ will connect to the JVM and initiate remote debugging.

You can now debug the application by adding breakpoints to your code where desired. The output of the application will still appear wherever it did before, but your breakpoints will hit in IntelliJ.

iterating through Enumeration of hastable keys throws NoSuchElementException error

Every time you call e.nextElement() you take the next object from the iterator. You have to check e.hasMoreElement() between each call.

Example:

while(e.hasMoreElements()){
    String param = e.nextElement();
    System.out.println(param);
}

Automatically run %matplotlib inline in IPython Notebook

I think what you want might be to run the following from the command line:

ipython notebook --matplotlib=inline

If you don't like typing it at the cmd line every time then you could create an alias to do it for you.

java how to use classes in other package?

Given your example, you need to add the following import in your main.main class:

import second.second;

Some bonus advice, make sure you titlecase your class names as that is a Java standard. So your example Main class will have the structure:

package main;  //lowercase package names
public class Main //titlecase class names
{
    //Main class content
}

Android - Set text to TextView

Well, @+id/listaVista ListView is drawn after @+id/texto and on top of it. So change in ListView from:

android:layout_below="@+id/editText1"

to:

android:layout_above="@+id/texto"

Also, since the list is drawn after textview, I find it dangerous to have android:layout_alignRight="@+id/listaVista" in TextView. So remove it and find another way of aligning.

EDIT Taking a second look at your layout I think this is what you really want to have:

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:paddingBottom="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
    android:paddingLeft="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
    android:paddingRight="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
    android:paddingTop="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
    tools:context=".EnviarMensaje" >

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/textView1"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
        android:text="Escriba el mensaje y luego clickee el canal a ser enviado"
        android:textSize="20sp" />

    <EditText
        android:id="@+id/editText1"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_alignLeft="@+id/textView1"
        android:layout_alignRight="@+id/textView1"
        android:layout_below="@+id/textView1"
        android:ems="10"
        android:inputType="text" />

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/texto"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_alignLeft="@+id/listaVista"
        android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
        android:text="TextView" />

    <ListView
        android:id="@+id/listaVista"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_above="@+id/texto"

        android:layout_below="@+id/editText1" >

What's wrong with nullable columns in composite primary keys?

A primary key defines a unique identifier for every row in a table: when a table has a primary key, you have a guranteed way to select any row from it.

A unique constraint does not necessarily identify every row; it just specifies that if a row has values in its columns, then they must be unique. This is not sufficient to uniquely identify every row, which is what a primary key must do.

Get list of data-* attributes using javascript / jQuery

Actually, if you're working with jQuery, as of version 1.4.3 1.4.4 (because of the bug as mentioned in the comments below), data-* attributes are supported through .data():

As of jQuery 1.4.3 HTML 5 data- attributes will be automatically pulled in to jQuery's data object.

Note that strings are left intact while JavaScript values are converted to their associated value (this includes booleans, numbers, objects, arrays, and null). The data- attributes are pulled in the first time the data property is accessed and then are no longer accessed or mutated (all data values are then stored internally in jQuery).

The jQuery.fn.data function will return all of the data- attribute inside an object as key-value pairs, with the key being the part of the attribute name after data- and the value being the value of that attribute after being converted following the rules stated above.

I've also created a simple demo if that doesn't convince you: http://jsfiddle.net/yijiang/WVfSg/

Inheritance and Overriding __init__ in python

You don't really have to call the __init__ methods of the base class(es), but you usually want to do it because the base classes will do some important initializations there that are needed for rest of the classes methods to work.

For other methods it depends on your intentions. If you just want to add something to the base classes behavior you will want to call the base classes method additionally to your own code. If you want to fundamentally change the behavior, you might not call the base class' method and implement all the functionality directly in the derived class.

fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_system-vc110-mt-gd-1_51.lib'

In case you have trouble building boost or prefer not to do that, an alternative is to download the lib files from SourceForge. The link will take you to a folder of zipped lib and dll files for version 1.51. But, you should be able to edit the link to specify the version of choice. Apparently the installer from BoostPro has some issues.

How to download a branch with git?

For any Git newbies like me, here are some steps you could follow to download a remote repository, and then switch to the branch that you want to view. They probably abuse Git in some way, but it did the job for me! :-)

Clone the repository you want to download the code for (in this example I've picked the LRResty project on Github):

$ git clone https://github.com/lukeredpath/LRResty.git
$ cd LRResty

Check what branch you are using at this point (it should be the master branch):

$ git branch
* master

Check out the branch you want, in my case it is called 'arcified':

 $ git checkout -b arcified origin/arcified
 Branch arcified set up to track remote branch arcified from origin.
 Switched to a new branch 'arcified'

Confirm you are now using the branch you wanted:

$ git branch
* arcified
  master

If you want to update the code again later, run git pull:

$ git pull
Already up-to-date.

How to deal with ModalDialog using selenium webdriver?

Try the below code. It is working in IE but not in FF22. If Modal dialog found is printed in Console, then Modal dialog is identified and switched.

 public class ModalDialog {

            String parent = driver.getWindowHandle();

                for (String window : driver.getWindowHandles()) {
                    if (!window.equals(parent)) {
                        driver.switchTo().window(window);
                        System.out.println("Modal dialog found");
                        break;
                    }
                }
            }
        }

    }

Conversion of System.Array to List

You can just give it try to your code:

Array ints = Array.CreateInstance(typeof(int), 5);
ints.SetValue(10, 0);

ints.SetValue(20, 1);
ints.SetValue(10, 2);
ints.SetValue(34, 3);
ints.SetValue(113, 4);

int[] anyVariable=(int[])ints;

Then you can just use the anyVariable as your code.

Download Excel file via AJAX MVC

You can't directly return a file for download via an AJAX call so, an alternative approach is to to use an AJAX call to post the related data to your server. You can then use server side code to create the Excel File (I would recommend using EPPlus or NPOI for this although it sounds as if you have this part working).

UPDATE September 2016

My original answer (below) was over 3 years old, so I thought I would update as I no longer create files on the server when downloading files via AJAX however, I have left the original answer as it may be of some use still depending on your specific requirements.

A common scenario in my MVC applications is reporting via a web page that has some user configured report parameters (Date Ranges, Filters etc.). When the user has specified the parameters they post them to the server, the report is generated (say for example an Excel file as output) and then I store the resulting file as a byte array in the TempData bucket with a unique reference. This reference is passed back as a Json Result to my AJAX function that subsequently redirects to separate controller action to extract the data from TempData and download to the end users browser.

To give this more detail, assuming you have a MVC View that has a form bound to a Model class, lets call the Model ReportVM.

First, a controller action is required to receive the posted model, an example would be:

public ActionResult PostReportPartial(ReportVM model){

   // Validate the Model is correct and contains valid data
   // Generate your report output based on the model parameters
   // This can be an Excel, PDF, Word file - whatever you need.

   // As an example lets assume we've generated an EPPlus ExcelPackage

   ExcelPackage workbook = new ExcelPackage();
   // Do something to populate your workbook

   // Generate a new unique identifier against which the file can be stored
   string handle = Guid.NewGuid().ToString();

   using(MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream()){
        workbook.SaveAs(memoryStream);
        memoryStream.Position = 0;
        TempData[handle] = memoryStream.ToArray();
   }

   // Note we are returning a filename as well as the handle
   return new JsonResult() {
         Data = new { FileGuid = handle, FileName = "TestReportOutput.xlsx" }
   };

}

The AJAX call that posts my MVC form to the above controller and receives the response looks like this:

$ajax({
    cache: false,
    url: '/Report/PostReportPartial',
    data: _form.serialize(),
    success: function (data){
         var response = JSON.parse(data);
         window.location = '/Report/Download?fileGuid=' + response.FileGuid
                           + '&filename=' + response.FileName;
    }
})

The controller action to handle the downloading of the file:

[HttpGet]
public virtual ActionResult Download(string fileGuid, string fileName)
{
   if(TempData[fileGuid] != null){
        byte[] data = TempData[fileGuid] as byte[];
        return File(data, "application/vnd.ms-excel", fileName);
   }
   else{
        // Problem - Log the error, generate a blank file,
        // redirect to another controller action - whatever fits with your application
        return new EmptyResult();
   }
}

One other change that could easily be accommodated if required is to pass the MIME Type of the file as a third parameter so that the one Controller action could correctly serve a variety of output file formats.

This removes any need for any physical files to created and stored on the server, so no housekeeping routines required and once again this is seamless to the end user.

Note, the advantage of using TempData rather than Session is that once TempData is read the data is cleared so it will be more efficient in terms of memory usage if you have a high volume of file requests. See TempData Best Practice.

ORIGINAL Answer

You can't directly return a file for download via an AJAX call so, an alternative approach is to to use an AJAX call to post the related data to your server. You can then use server side code to create the Excel File (I would recommend using EPPlus or NPOI for this although it sounds as if you have this part working).

Once the file has been created on the server pass back the path to the file (or just the filename) as the return value to your AJAX call and then set the JavaScript window.location to this URL which will prompt the browser to download the file.

From the end users perspective, the file download operation is seamless as they never leave the page on which the request originates.

Below is a simple contrived example of an ajax call to achieve this:

$.ajax({
    type: 'POST',
    url: '/Reports/ExportMyData',
    data: '{ "dataprop1": "test", "dataprop2" : "test2" }',
    contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
    dataType: 'json',
    success: function (returnValue) {
        window.location = '/Reports/Download?file=' + returnValue;
    }
});
  • url parameter is the Controller/Action method where your code will create the Excel file.
  • data parameter contains the json data that would be extracted from the form.
  • returnValue would be the file name of your newly created Excel file.
  • The window.location command redirects to the Controller/Action method that actually returns your file for download.

A sample controller method for the Download action would be:

[HttpGet]
public virtual ActionResult Download(string file)
{
  string fullPath = Path.Combine(Server.MapPath("~/MyFiles"), file);
  return File(fullPath, "application/vnd.ms-excel", file);
}

How do you completely remove the button border in wpf?

Why don't you set both Background & BorderBrush by same brush

 <Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}" >
        <Setter Property="Background" Value="{StaticResource marginBackGround}"></Setter>
        <Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{StaticResource marginBackGround}"></Setter>
 </Style>

<LinearGradientBrush  x:Key="marginBackGround" EndPoint=".5,1" StartPoint="0.5,0">
    <GradientStop Color="#EE82EE" Offset="0"/>
    <GradientStop Color="#7B30B6" Offset="0.5"/>
    <GradientStop Color="#510088" Offset="0.5"/>
    <GradientStop Color="#76209B" Offset="0.9"/>
    <GradientStop Color="#C750B9" Offset="1"/>
</LinearGradientBrush>

Why does my sorting loop seem to append an element where it shouldn't?

Starting from Java 8, you can also use parallelSort which is useful if you have arrays containing a lot of elements.

Example:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    String[] strings = { "x", "a", "c", "b", "y" };
    Arrays.parallelSort(strings);
    System.out.println(Arrays.toString(strings));   // [a, b, c, x, y]
}

If you want to ignore the case, you can use:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    String[] strings = { "x", "a", "c", "B", "y" };
    Arrays.parallelSort(strings, new Comparator<String>() {
        @Override
        public int compare(String o1, String o2) {
            return o1.compareToIgnoreCase(o2);
        }
    });
    System.out.println(Arrays.toString(strings));   // [a, B, c, x, y]
}

otherwise B will be before a.

If you want to ignore the trailing spaces during the comparison, you can use trim():

public static void main(String[] args) {
    String[] strings = { "x", "  a", "c ", " b", "y" };
    Arrays.parallelSort(strings, new Comparator<String>() {
        @Override
        public int compare(String o1, String o2) {
            return o1.trim().compareTo(o2.trim());
        }
    });
    System.out.println(Arrays.toString(strings)); // [  a,  b, c , x, y]
}

"A lambda expression with a statement body cannot be converted to an expression tree"

It means that a Lambda expression of type TDelegate which contains a ([parameters]) => { some code }; cannot be converted to an Expression<TDelegate>. It's the rule.

Simplify your query. The one you provided can be rewritten as the following and will compile:

Arr[] myArray = objects.Select(o => new Obj()
                {
                   Var1 = o.someVar,
                   Var2 = o.var2
                } ).ToArray();

Ruby combining an array into one string

Here's my solution:

@arr = ['<p>Hello World</p>', '<p>This is a test</p>']
@arr.reduce(:+)
=> <p>Hello World</p><p>This is a test</p>

How to get an Instagram Access Token

If you don't want to build your server side, like only developing on a client side (web app or a mobile app) , you could choose an Implicit Authentication .

As the document saying , first make a https request with

https://api.instagram.com/oauth/authorize/?client_id=CLIENT-ID&redirect_uri=REDIRECT-URI&response_type=token

Fill in your CLIENT-ID and REDIRECT-URL you designated.

Then that's going to the log in page , but the most important thing is how to get the access token after the user correctly logging in.

After the user click the log in button with both correct account and password, the web page will redirect to the url you designated followed by a new access token.

http://your-redirect-uri#access_token=ACCESS-TOKEN

I'm not familiar with javascript , but in Android studio , that's an easy way to add a listener which listen to the event the web page override the url to the new url (redirect event) , then it will pass the redirect url string to you , so you can easily split it to get the access-token like:

String access_token = url.split("=")[1];

Means to break the url into the string array in each "=" character , then the access token obviously exists at [1].

Altering a column: null to not null

In case of FOREIGN KEY CONSTRAINT... there will be a problem if '0' is not present in the column of Primary key table. The solution for that is...

STEP1:

Disable all the constraints using this code :

EXEC sp_msforeachtable "ALTER TABLE ? NOCHECK CONSTRAINT all"

STEP2:

RUN UPDATE COMMAND (as mentioned in above comments)
RUN ALTER COMMAND (as mentioned in above comments)

STEP3:

Enable all the constraints using this code :

exec sp_msforeachtable @command1="print '?'", @command2="ALTER TABLE ? WITH CHECK CHECK CONSTRAINT all"

Python 3 Building an array of bytes

what about simply constructing your frame from a standard list ?

frame = bytes([0xA2,0x01,0x02,0x03,0x04])

the bytes() constructor can build a byte frame from an iterable containing int values. an iterable is anything which implements the iterator protocol: an list, an iterator, an iterable object like what is returned by range()...

What is difference between INNER join and OUTER join

INNER JOIN: Returns all rows when there is at least one match in BOTH tables

LEFT JOIN: Return all rows from the left table, and the matched rows from the right table

RIGHT JOIN: Return all rows from the right table, and the matched rows from the left table

FULL JOIN: Return all rows when there is a match in ONE of the tables

    with open(filename, 'rb') as f:

            h.update(mm)

How to use fetch in typescript

Actually, pretty much anywhere in typescript, passing a value to a function with a specified type will work as desired as long as the type being passed is compatible.

That being said, the following works...

 fetch(`http://swapi.co/api/people/1/`)
      .then(res => res.json())
      .then((res: Actor) => {
          // res is now an Actor
      });

I wanted to wrap all of my http calls in a reusable class - which means I needed some way for the client to process the response in its desired form. To support this, I accept a callback lambda as a parameter to my wrapper method. The lambda declaration accepts an any type as shown here...

callBack: (response: any) => void

But in use the caller can pass a lambda that specifies the desired return type. I modified my code from above like this...

fetch(`http://swapi.co/api/people/1/`)
  .then(res => res.json())
  .then(res => {
      if (callback) {
        callback(res); // Client receives the response as desired type.
      }
  });

So that a client can call it with a callback like...

(response: IApigeeResponse) => {
    // Process response as an IApigeeResponse
}

CSS3 equivalent to jQuery slideUp and slideDown?

I changed your solution, so that it works in all modern browsers:

css snippet:

-webkit-transition: height 1s ease-in-out;
-moz-transition: height 1s ease-in-out;
-ms-transition: height 1s ease-in-out;
-o-transition: height 1s ease-in-out;
transition: height 1s ease-in-out;

js snippet:

    var clone = $('#this').clone()
                .css({'position':'absolute','visibility':'hidden','height':'auto'})
                .addClass('slideClone')
                .appendTo('body');

    var newHeight = $(".slideClone").height();
    $(".slideClone").remove();
    $('#this').css('height',newHeight + 'px');

Is there a method for String conversion to Title Case?

There are no capitalize() or titleCase() methods in Java's String class. You have two choices:

 StringUtils.capitalize(null)  = null
 StringUtils.capitalize("")    = ""
 StringUtils.capitalize("cat") = "Cat"
 StringUtils.capitalize("cAt") = "CAt"
 StringUtils.capitalize("'cat'") = "'cat'"
  • write (yet another) static helper method toTitleCase()

Sample implementation

public static String toTitleCase(String input) {
    StringBuilder titleCase = new StringBuilder(input.length());
    boolean nextTitleCase = true;

    for (char c : input.toCharArray()) {
        if (Character.isSpaceChar(c)) {
            nextTitleCase = true;
        } else if (nextTitleCase) {
            c = Character.toTitleCase(c);
            nextTitleCase = false;
        }

        titleCase.append(c);
    }

    return titleCase.toString();
}

Testcase

    System.out.println(toTitleCase("string"));
    System.out.println(toTitleCase("another string"));
    System.out.println(toTitleCase("YET ANOTHER STRING"));

outputs:

String
Another String
YET ANOTHER STRING

Vector of Vectors to create matrix

You have to initialize the vector of vectors to the appropriate size before accessing any elements. You can do it like this:

// assumes using std::vector for brevity
vector<vector<int>> matrix(RR, vector<int>(CC));

This creates a vector of RR size CC vectors, filled with 0.

Disabling user input for UITextfield in swift

In swift 5, I used following code to disable the textfield

override func viewDidLoad() {
   super.viewDidLoad()
   self.textfield.isEnabled = false
   //e.g
   self.design.isEnabled = false
}

There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first

You can use the ToList() method before the return statement.

JavaScript: Global variables after Ajax requests

The reason your code fails is because post() will start an asynchronous request to the server. What that means for you is that post() returns immediately, not after the request completes, like you are expecting.

What you need, then, is for the request to be synchronous and block the current thread until the request completes. Thus,

var it_works = false;

$.ajax({
  url: 'some_file.php',
  async: false, # makes request synchronous
  success: function() {
    it_works = true;
  }
});

alert(it_works);

border: 5px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);

Here, a means alpha, which you can scale, 0-1.

Also some might suggest you to use opacity which does the same job as well, the only difference is it will result in child elements getting opaque too, yes, there are some work arounds but rgba seems better than using opacity.

For older browsers, always declare the background color using #(hex) just as a fall back, so that if old browsers doesn't recognize the rgba, they will apply the hex color to your element.

Demo 2 (With a background image for nested div)

Demo 3 (With an img tag instead of a background-image)

body {
    background: url(http://www.desktopas.com/files/2013/06/Images-1920x1200.jpg);
}

div.wrap {
    border: 5px solid #fff; /* Fall back, not used in fiddle */
    border: 5px solid rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);
    height: 400px;
    width: 400px;
    margin: 50px;
    border-radius: 50%;
}

div.inner {
    background: #fff; /* Fall back, not used in fiddle */
    background: rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);
    height: 380px;
    width: 380px;
    border-radius: 50%;
    margin: auto; /* Horizontal Center */
    margin-top: 10px; /* Vertical Center ... Yea I know, that's
                         manually calculated*/
}

Note (For Demo 3): Image will be scaled according to the height and width provided so make sure it doesn't break the scaling ratio.

Nginx no-www to www and www to no-www

HTTP Solution

From the documentation, "the right way is to define a separate server for example.org":

server {
    listen       80;
    server_name  example.com;
    return       301 http://www.example.com$request_uri;
}

server {
    listen       80;
    server_name  www.example.com;
    ...
}

HTTPS Solution

For those who want a solution including https://...

server {
        listen 80;
        server_name www.domain.com;
        # $scheme will get the http protocol
        # and 301 is best practice for tablet, phone, desktop and seo
        return 301 $scheme://domain.com$request_uri;
}

server {
        listen 80;
        server_name domain.com;
        # here goes the rest of your config file
        # example
        location / {

            rewrite ^/cp/login?$ /cp/login.php last;
            # etc etc...

        }
}

Note: I have not originally included https:// in my solution since we use loadbalancers and our https:// server is a high-traffic SSL payment server: we do not mix https:// and http://.

To check the nginx version, use nginx -v.

Strip www from url with nginx redirect

server {
    server_name  www.domain.com;
    rewrite ^(.*) http://domain.com$1 permanent;
}

server {
    server_name  domain.com;
    #The rest of your configuration goes here#
}

So you need to have TWO server codes.

Add the www to the url with nginx redirect

If what you need is the opposite, to redirect from domain.com to www.domain.com, you can use this:

server {
    server_name  domain.com;
    rewrite ^(.*) http://www.domain.com$1 permanent;
}

server {
    server_name  www.domain.com;
    #The rest of your configuration goes here#
}

As you can imagine, this is just the opposite and works the same way the first example. This way, you don't get SEO marks down, as it is complete perm redirect and move. The no WWW is forced and the directory shown!

Some of my code shown below for a better view:

server {
    server_name  www.google.com;
    rewrite ^(.*) http://google.com$1 permanent;
}
server {
       listen 80;
       server_name google.com;
       index index.php index.html;
       ####
       # now pull the site from one directory #
       root /var/www/www.google.com/web;
       # done #
       location = /favicon.ico {
                log_not_found off;
                access_log off;
       }
}

Adding custom radio buttons in android

I realize this is a belated answer, but looking through developer.android.com, it seems that the Toggle button would be ideal for your situation.

Toggle button image http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/controls/togglebutton.html

And of course you can still use the other suggestions for having a background drawable to get a custom look you want.

<ToggleButton
    android:id="@+id/togglebutton"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:background="@drawable/custom_button_background"
    android:textOn="On"
    android:textOff="Off"
    />

Now if you want to go with your final edit and have a "halo" effect around your buttons, you can use another custom selector to do just that.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item android:state_selected="true" > <!-- selected -->
        <shape>
            <solid
                android:color="@android:color/white" />
            <stroke
                android:width="3px"
                android:color="@android:color/holo_blue_bright" />
            <corners
                android:radius="5dp" />
        </shape>
    </item>
    <item> <!-- default -->
        <shape>
            <solid
                android:color="@android:color/white" />
            <stroke
                android:width="1px"
                android:color="@android:color/darker_gray" />
            <corners
                android:radius="5dp" />
        </shape>
    </item>
</selector>

If that is the entire line, it very well might be because you are missing a ; at the end of the line.

Using an IF Statement in a MySQL SELECT query

The IF/THEN/ELSE construct you are using is only valid in stored procedures and functions. Your query will need to be restructured because you can't use the IF() function to control the flow of the WHERE clause like this.

The IF() function that can be used in queries is primarily meant to be used in the SELECT portion of the query for selecting different data based on certain conditions, not so much to be used in the WHERE portion of the query:

SELECT IF(JQ.COURSE_ID=0, 'Some Result If True', 'Some Result If False'), OTHER_COLUMNS
FROM ...
WHERE ...

Convert list of ASCII codes to string (byte array) in Python

struct.pack('B' * len(integers), *integers)

*sequence means "unpack sequence" - or rather, "when calling f(..., *args ,...), let args = sequence".

Printing list elements on separated lines in Python

print("\n".join(sys.path))

(The outer parentheses are included for Python 3 compatibility and are usually omitted in Python 2.)

Why do we have to override the equals() method in Java?

Let me give you an example that I find very helpful.

You can think of reference as the page number of a book. Suppose now you have two pages a and b like below.

BookPage a = getSecondPage();

BookPage b = getThirdPage();

In this case, a == b will give you false. But, why? The reason is that what == is doing is like comparing the page number. So, even if the content on these two pages is exactly the same, you will still get false.

But what do we do if you we want to compare the content?

The answer is to write your own equals method and specify what you really want to compare.

Get Excel sheet name and use as variable in macro

in a Visual Basic Macro you would use

pName = ActiveWorkbook.Path ' the path of the currently active file
wbName = ActiveWorkbook.Name ' the file name of the currently active file
shtName = ActiveSheet.Name ' the name of the currently selected worksheet

The first sheet in a workbook can be referenced by

ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets(1)

so after deleting the [Report] tab you would use

ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Report").Delete
shtName = ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets(1).Name

to "work on that sheet later on" you can create a range object like

Dim MySheet as Range
MySheet = ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets(shtName).[A1]

and continue working on MySheet(rowNum, colNum) etc. ...

shortcut creation of a range object without defining shtName:

Dim MySheet as Range
MySheet = ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets(1).[A1]

How to Publish Web with msbuild?

Using the deployment profiles introduced in VS 2012, you can publish with the following command line:

msbuild MyProject.csproj /p:DeployOnBuild=true /p:PublishProfile=<profile-name> /p:Password=<insert-password> /p:VisualStudioVersion=11.0

For more information on the parameters see this.

The values for the /p:VisualStudioVersion parameter depend on your version of Visual Studio. Wikipedia has a table of Visual Studio releases and their versions.

Array Size (Length) in C#

For a single dimension array, you use the Length property:

int size = theArray.Length;

For multiple dimension arrays the Length property returns the total number of items in the array. You can use the GetLength method to get the size of one of the dimensions:

int size0 = theArray.GetLength(0);

Where does System.Diagnostics.Debug.Write output appear?

As others have pointed out, listeners have to be registered in order to read these streams. Also note that Debug.Write will only function if the DEBUG build flag is set, while Trace.Write will only function if the TRACE build flag is set.

Setting the DEBUG and/or TRACE flags is easily done in the project properties in Visual Studio or by supplying the following arguments to csc.exe

/define:DEBUG;TRACE

The system cannot find the file specified in java

When you run a jar, your Main class itself becomes args[0] and your filename comes immediately after.

I had the same issue: I could locate my file when provided the absolute path from eclipse (because I was referring to the file as args[0]). Yet when I run the same from jar, it was trying to locate my main class - which is when I got the idea that I should be reading my file from args[1].

Passing parameters on button action:@selector

UIButton responds to addTarget:action:forControlEvents: since it inherits from UIControl. But it does not respond to addTarget:action:withObject:forControlEvents:

You could extend UIButton with a category to implement that method, thought.

Copying a local file from Windows to a remote server using scp

I have found it easiest to use a graphical interface on windows (I recommend mobaXTerm it has ssh, scp, ftp, remote desktop, and many more) but if you are set on command line I would recommend cd'ing into the directory with the source folder then
scp -r yourFolder username@server:/path/to/dir
the -r indicates recursive to be used on directories

Free tool to Create/Edit PNG Images?

Inkscape is a vector drawing program that exports PNG images. So, you end up editing SVG documents and exporting them to PNGs. Inkscape is good if you're starting from scratch, but wouldn't be ideal if you just want to edit existing PNGs.

Note--Inkscape is open source and available for free on multiple platforms.

Android + Pair devices via bluetooth programmatically

In my first answer the logic is shown for those who want to go with the logic only.

I think I was not able to make clear to @chalukya3545, that's why I am adding the whole code to let him know the exact flow of the code.

How to normalize a histogram in MATLAB?

My answer to this is the same as in an answer to your earlier question. For a probability density function, the integral over the entire space is 1. Dividing by the sum will not give you the correct density. To get the right density, you must divide by the area. To illustrate my point, try the following example.

[f, x] = hist(randn(10000, 1), 50); % Create histogram from a normal distribution.
g = 1 / sqrt(2 * pi) * exp(-0.5 * x .^ 2); % pdf of the normal distribution

% METHOD 1: DIVIDE BY SUM
figure(1)
bar(x, f / sum(f)); hold on
plot(x, g, 'r'); hold off

% METHOD 2: DIVIDE BY AREA
figure(2)
bar(x, f / trapz(x, f)); hold on
plot(x, g, 'r'); hold off

You can see for yourself which method agrees with the correct answer (red curve).

enter image description here

Another method (more straightforward than method 2) to normalize the histogram is to divide by sum(f * dx) which expresses the integral of the probability density function, i.e.

% METHOD 3: DIVIDE BY AREA USING sum()
figure(3)
dx = diff(x(1:2))
bar(x, f / sum(f * dx)); hold on
plot(x, g, 'r'); hold off

How do you create a UIImage View Programmatically - Swift

In Swift 4.2 and Xcode 10.1

//Create image view simply like this.
let imgView = UIImageView()
imgView.frame = CGRect(x: 200, y: 200, width: 200, height: 200)
imgView.image = UIImage(named: "yourimagename")//Assign image to ImageView
imgView.imgViewCorners()
view.addSubview(imgView)//Add image to our view

//Add image view properties like this(This is one of the way to add properties).
extension UIImageView {
    //If you want only round corners
    func imgViewCorners() {
        layer.cornerRadius = 10
        layer.borderWidth = 1.0

iterating through json object javascript

My problem was actually a problem of bad planning with the JSON object rather than an actual logic issue. What I ended up doing was organize the object as follows, per a suggestion from user2736012.

{
"dialog":
{
    "trunks":[
    {
        "trunk_id" : "1",
        "message": "This is just a JSON Test"
    },
    {
        "trunk_id" : "2",
        "message": "This is a test of a bit longer text. Hopefully this will at the very least create 3 lines and trigger us to go on to another box. So we can test multi-box functionality, too."
    }
    ]
}
}

At that point, I was able to do a fairly simple for loop based on the total number of objects.

var totalMessages = Object.keys(messages.dialog.trunks).length;

    for ( var i = 0; i < totalMessages; i++)
    {
        console.log("ID: " + messages.dialog.trunks[i].trunk_id + " Message " + messages.dialog.trunks[i].message);
    }

My method for getting totalMessages is not supported in all browsers, though. For my project, it actually doesn't matter, but beware of that if you choose to use something similar to this.

How can I get jQuery to perform a synchronous, rather than asynchronous, Ajax request?

Git with SSH on Windows

I was trying to solve my issue with some of the answers above and for some reason it didn't work. I did switch to use the git extensions and this are the steps I did follow.

  1. I went to Tools -> Settings -> SSH -> Other ssh client
  2. Set this value to C:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\ssh.exe
  3. Apply

I guess that this steps are just the same explained above. The only difference is that I used the Git Extensions User Interface instead of the terminal. Hope this help.

fixed the problem

also mimetype is important.

How do I run a PowerShell script when the computer starts?

Running sites on "localhost" is extremely slow

I know the op was using an older version of IIS and this may not apply to him, but I'm posting this as it might help others. I had the same problem and none of the above IPv6 or hosts file changes worked for me. My asp.net MVC4 project was really slow after hitting F5 to refresh js changes on localhost. It was happening across all browsers - Chrome, FF, and IE. Eventually I realised I was running IIS Express 8.0 locally, and it turns out 8.0 is extremely slow when serving up js files and seems to be a bug. If I ran iisexpress on the command line and hit F5 I could see each js file took 4 or 5 seconds to load.

I ended up uninstalling IIS 8.0 and installing IIS express 7.5 and straight away the problem was fixed. Here are the steps I followed:

IIS Express 8.0 seems to be installed with VS 2012 so if you had a new install or possibly a service pack update this might upgrade the previous IIS Express version.

How to add class active on specific li on user click with jQuery

Slightly off topic but having arrived here while developing an Angular2 app I would like to share that Angular2 automatically adds the class "router-link-active" to active router links such as this one:

<li><a [routerLink]="['Dashboard']">Dashboard</a></li>

You can therefore easily style such links using CSS:

.router-link-active {
    color: red;
}

Counter exit code 139 when running, but gdb make it through

exit code 139 (people say this means memory fragmentation)

No, it means that your program died with signal 11 (SIGSEGV on Linux and most other UNIXes), also known as segmentation fault.

Could anybody tell me why the run fails but debug doesn't?

Your program exhibits undefined behavior, and can do anything (that includes appearing to work correctly sometimes).

Your first step should be running this program under Valgrind, and fixing all errors it reports.

If after doing the above, the program still crashes, then you should let it dump core (ulimit -c unlimited; ./a.out) and then analyze that core dump with GDB: gdb ./a.out core; then use where command.

Screenshot sizes for publishing android app on Google Play

The files need to be in a JPEG or PNG format of 24 bits, in a 2:1 ratio if it is a portrait and a 16:9 ratio for landscapes. Be careful that if you go for different sizes: the maximum size should not be more than twice bigger than the minimum size.

Radio buttons and label to display in same line

<label>Option 2</label>
<input type="radio" id="opt2">

<label>Option 3</label>

As a workaround, go to sdk installation directory and perform the following steps:

  • Move everything in there to system-images/android-19/

The directory structure should look like this: enter image description here

And it should work!

Combining INSERT INTO and WITH/CTE

Yep:

WITH tab (
  bla bla
)

INSERT INTO dbo.prf_BatchItemAdditionalAPartyNos ( BatchID, AccountNo,
APartyNo,
SourceRowID)

SELECT * FROM tab

Note that this is for SQL Server, which supports multiple CTEs:

WITH x AS (), y AS () INSERT INTO z (a, b, c) SELECT a, b, c FROM y

Teradata allows only one CTE and the syntax is as your example.

How to remove specific object from ArrayList in Java?

You can use Collections.binarySearch to find the element, then call remove on the returned index.

See the documentation for Collections.binarySearch here: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/Collections.html#binarySearch%28java.util.List,%20java.lang.Object%29

This would require the ArrayTest object to have .equals implemented though. You would also need to call Collections.sort to sort the list. Finally, ArrayTest would have to implement the Comparable interface, so that binarySearch would run correctly.

This is the "proper" way to do it in Java. If you are just looking to solve the problem in a quick and dirty fashion, then you can just iterate over the elements and remove the one with the attribute you are looking for.

Laravel redirect back to original destination after login

if you are using axios or other AJAX javascript library you may want to retrive the url and pass to the front end

you can do that with the code below

   $default = '/';

   $location = $request->session()->pull('url.intended', $default);

    return ['status' => 200, 'location' => $location];

This will return a json formatted string

var functionName = function() {} vs function functionName() {}

I use the variable approach in my code for a very specific reason, the theory of which has been covered in an abstract way above, but an example might help some people like me, with limited JavaScript expertise.

I have code that I need to run with 160 independently-designed brandings. Most of the code is in shared files, but branding-specific stuff is in a separate file, one for each branding.

Some brandings require specific functions, and some do not. Sometimes I have to add new functions to do new branding-specific things. I am happy to change the shared coded, but I don't want to have to change all 160 sets of branding files.

By using the variable syntax, I can declare the variable (a function pointer essentially) in the shared code and either assign a trivial stub function, or set to null.

The one or two brandings that need a specific implementation of the function can then define their version of the function and assign this to the variable if they want, and the rest do nothing. I can test for a null function before I execute it in the shared code.

From people's comments above, I gather it may be possible to redefine a static function too, but I think the variable solution is nice and clear.

Get data from JSON file with PHP

Get the content of the JSON file using file_get_contents():

$str = file_get_contents('http://example.com/example.json/');

Now decode the JSON using json_decode():

$json = json_decode($str, true); // decode the JSON into an associative array

You have an associative array containing all the information. To figure out how to access the values you need, you can do the following:

echo '<pre>' . print_r($json, true) . '</pre>';

This will print out the contents of the array in a nice readable format. Note that the second parameter is set to true in order to let print_r() know that the output should be returned (rather than just printed to screen). Then, you access the elements you want, like so:

$temperatureMin = $json['daily']['data'][0]['temperatureMin'];
$temperatureMax = $json['daily']['data'][0]['temperatureMax'];

Or loop through the array however you wish:

foreach ($json['daily']['data'] as $field => $value) {
    // Use $field and $value here
}

Truncate Two decimal places without rounding

I will leave the solution for decimal numbers.

Some of the solutions for decimals here are prone to overflow (if we pass a very large decimal number and the method will try to multiply it).

Tim Lloyd's solution is protected from overflow but it's not too fast.

The following solution is about 2 times faster and doesn't have an overflow problem:

public static class DecimalExtensions
{
    public static decimal TruncateEx(this decimal value, int decimalPlaces)
    {
        if (decimalPlaces < 0)
            throw new ArgumentException("decimalPlaces must be greater than or equal to 0.");

        var modifier = Convert.ToDecimal(0.5 / Math.Pow(10, decimalPlaces));
        return Math.Round(value >= 0 ? value - modifier : value + modifier, decimalPlaces);
    }
}

Add (insert) a column between two columns in a data.frame

You can use the append() function to insert items into vectors or lists (dataframes are lists). Simply:

df <- data.frame(a=c(1,2), b=c(3,4), c=c(5,6))

df <- as.data.frame(append(df, list(d=df$b+df$c), after=2))

Or, if you want to specify the position by name use which:

df <- as.data.frame(append(df, list(d=df$b+df$c), after=which(names(df)=="b")))

How do I return a char array from a function?

You have to realize that char[10] is similar to a char* (see comment by @DarkDust). You are in fact returning a pointer. Now the pointer points to a variable (str) which is destroyed as soon as you exit the function, so the pointer points to... nothing!

Usually in C, you explicitly allocate memory in this case, which won't be destroyed when the function ends:

char* testfunc()
{
    char* str = malloc(10 * sizeof(char));
    return str;
}

Be aware though! The memory pointed at by str is now never destroyed. If you don't take care of this, you get something that is known as a 'memory leak'. Be sure to free() the memory after you are done with it:

foo = testfunc();
// Do something with your foo
free(foo);

how to access iFrame parent page using jquery?

If you need to find the jQuery instance in the parent document (e.g., to call an utility function provided by a plug-in) use one of these syntaxes:

  • window.parent.$
  • window.parent.jQuery

Example:

window.parent.$.modal.close();

jQuery gets attached to the window object and that's what window.parent is.

Deploying just HTML, CSS webpage to Tomcat

Here's my step in Ubuntu 16.04 and Tomcat 8.

  1. Copy folder /var/lib/tomcat8/webapps/ROOT to your folder.

    cp -r /var/lib/tomcat8/webapps/ROOT /var/lib/tomcat8/webapps/{yourfolder}

  2. Add your html, css, js, to your folder.

  3. Open "http://localhost:8080/{yourfolder}" in browser

Notes:

  1. If you using chrome web browser and did wrong folder before, then clean web browser's cache(or change another name) otherwise (sometimes) it always 404.

  2. The folder META-INF with context.xml is needed.

When to use: Java 8+ interface default method, vs. abstract method

There are a few technical differences. Abstract classes can still do more in comparison to Java 8 interfaces:

  1. Abstract class can have a constructor.
  2. Abstract classes are more structured and can hold a state.

Conceptually, main purpose of defender methods is a backward compatibility after introduction of new features (as lambda-functions) in Java 8.

Make a negative number positive

Just call Math.abs. For example:

int x = Math.abs(-5);

Which will set x to 5.

Note that if you pass Integer.MIN_VALUE, the same value (still negative) will be returned, as the range of int does not allow the positive equivalent to be represented.

  • Add a Resource file to your project (you can call it "strings.resx") by doing the following:
    Right-click Properties in the project, select Add -> New Item... in the context menu, then in the list of Visual C# Items pick "Resources file" and name it strings.resx.
  • Add a string resouce in the resx file and give it a good name (example: name it "Hello" with and give it the value "Hello")
  • Save the resource file (note: this will be the default resource file, since it does not have a two-letter language code)
  • Add references to your program: System.Threading and System.Globalization

Run this code:

Console.WriteLine(Properties.strings.Hello);

It should print "Hello".

Now, add a new resource file, named "strings.fr.resx" (note the "fr" part; this one will contain resources in French). Add a string resource with the same name as in strings.resx, but with the value in French (Name="Hello", Value="Salut"). Now, if you run the following code, it should print Salut:

Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("fr-FR");
Console.WriteLine(Properties.strings.Hello);

What happens is that the system will look for a resource for "fr-FR". It will not find one (since we specified "fr" in your file"). It will then fall back to checking for "fr", which it finds (and uses).

The following code, will print "Hello":

Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = CultureInfo.GetCultureInfo("en-US");
Console.WriteLine(Properties.strings.Hello);

That is because it does not find any "en-US" resource, and also no "en" resource, so it will fall back to the default, which is the one that we added from the start.

You can create files with more specific resources if needed (for instance strings.fr-FR.resx and strings.fr-CA.resx for French in France and Canada respectively). In each such file you will need to add the resources for those strings that differ from the resource that it would fall back to. So if a text is the same in France and Canada, you can put it in strings.fr.resx, while strings that are different in Canadian french could go into strings.fr-CA.resx.

CHECK constraint in MySQL is not working

MySQL 8.0.16 is the first version that supports CHECK constraints.

Read https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/create-table-check-constraints.html

If you use MySQL 8.0.15 or earlier, the MySQL Reference Manual says:

The CHECK clause is parsed but ignored by all storage engines.

Try a trigger...

mysql> delimiter //
mysql> CREATE TRIGGER trig_sd_check BEFORE INSERT ON Customer
    -> FOR EACH ROW
    -> BEGIN
    -> IF NEW.SD<0 THEN
    -> SET NEW.SD=0;
    -> END IF;
    -> END
    -> //
mysql> delimiter ;

Hope that helps.

Get selected item value from Bootstrap DropDown with specific ID

You might want to modify your jQuery code a bit to '#demolist li a' so it specifically selects the text that is in the link rather than the text that is in the li element. That would allow you to have a sub-menu without causing issues. Also since your are specifically selecting the a tag you can access it with $(this).text();.

$('#datebox li a').on('click', function(){
    //$('#datebox').val($(this).text());
    alert($(this).text());
});

Clear Application's Data Programmatically

I'm just putting the tutorial from the link ihrupin posted here in this post.

package com.hrupin.cleaner;

import java.io.File;

import android.app.Application;
import android.util.Log;

public class MyApplication extends Application {

    private static MyApplication instance;

    @Override
    public void onCreate() {
        super.onCreate();
        instance = this;
    }

    public static MyApplication getInstance() {
        return instance;
    }

    public void clearApplicationData() {
        File cacheDirectory = getCacheDir();
        File applicationDirectory = new File(cacheDirectory.getParent());
        if (applicationDirectory.exists()) {
            String[] fileNames = applicationDirectory.list();
            for (String fileName : fileNames) {
                if (!fileName.equals("lib")) {
                    deleteFile(new File(applicationDirectory, fileName));
                }
            }
        }
    }

    public static boolean deleteFile(File file) {
        boolean deletedAll = true;
        if (file != null) {
            if (file.isDirectory()) {
                String[] children = file.list();
                for (int i = 0; i < children.length; i++) {
                    deletedAll = deleteFile(new File(file, children[i])) && deletedAll;
                }
            } else {
                deletedAll = file.delete();
            }
        }

        return deletedAll;
    }
}

So if you want a button to do this you need to call MyApplication.getInstance(). clearApplicationData() from within an onClickListener

Update: Your SharedPreferences instance might hold onto your data and recreate the preferences file after you delete it. So your going to want to get your SharedPreferences object and

prefs.edit().clear().commit();

Update:

You need to add android:name="your.package.MyApplication" to the application tag inside AndroidManifest.xml if you had not done so. Else, MyApplication.getInstance() returns null, resulting a NullPointerException.

MySQL LIKE IN()?

You can create an inline view or a temporary table, fill it with you values and issue this:

SELECT  *
FROM    fiberbox f
JOIN    (
        SELECT '%1740%' AS cond
        UNION ALL
        SELECT '%1938%' AS cond
        UNION ALL
        SELECT '%1940%' AS cond
        ) ?
ON      f.fiberBox LIKE cond

This, however, can return you multiple rows for a fiberbox that is something like '1740, 1938', so this query can fit you better:

SELECT  *
FROM    fiberbox f
WHERE   EXISTS
        (
        SELECT  1
        FROM    (
                SELECT '%1740%' AS cond
                UNION ALL
                SELECT '%1938%' AS cond
                UNION ALL
                SELECT '%1940%' AS cond
                ) ?
        WHERE   f.fiberbox LIKE cond
        )

Using GregorianCalendar with SimpleDateFormat

Why such complications?

public static GregorianCalendar convertFromDMY(String dd_mm_yy) throws ParseException
{
    SimpleDateFormat fmt = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yyyy");
    Date date = fmt.parse(dd_mm_yy);
    GregorianCalendar cal = GregorianCalendar.getInstance();
    cal.setTime(date);
    return cal;
}

SVN checkout the contents of a folder, not the folder itself

Just add a . to it:

svn checkout file:///home/landonwinters/svn/waterproject/trunk .

That means: check out to current directory.

PHP mySQL - Insert new record into table with auto-increment on primary key

I prefer this syntaxis:

$query = "INSERT INTO myTable SET fname='Fname',lname='Lname',website='Website'";

UITableView Separator line

First you can write the code:

{    [self.tableView setSeparatorStyle:UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleNone];}

after that

{    #define cellHeight 80 // You can change according to your req.<br>
     #define cellWidth 320 // You can change according to your req.<br>

    -(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath  *)indexPath
    {
         UIImageView *imgView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"seprater_line.png"]];
        imgView.frame = CGRectMake(0, cellHeight, cellWidth, 1);
        [customCell.contentView addSubview:imgView];
         return  customCell;

     }
}

Send POST data using XMLHttpRequest

Minimal use of FormData to submit an AJAX request

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge, chrome=1"/>
<script>
"use strict";
function submitForm(oFormElement)
{
  var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
  xhr.onload = function(){ alert (xhr.responseText); } // success case
  xhr.onerror = function(){ alert (xhr.responseText); } // failure case
  xhr.open (oFormElement.method, oFormElement.action, true);
  xhr.send (new FormData (oFormElement));
  return false;
}
</script>
</head>

<body>
<form method="post" action="somewhere" onsubmit="return submitForm(this);">
  <input type="hidden" value="person"   name="user" />
  <input type="hidden" value="password" name="pwd" />
  <input type="hidden" value="place"    name="organization" />
  <input type="hidden" value="key"      name="requiredkey" />
  <input type="submit" value="post request"/>
</form>
</body>
</html>

Remarks

  1. This does not fully answer the OP question because it requires the user to click in order to submit the request. But this may be useful to people searching for this kind of simple solution.

  2. This example is very simple and does not support the GET method. If you are interesting by more sophisticated examples, please have a look at the excellent MDN documentation. See also similar answer about XMLHttpRequest to Post HTML Form.

  3. Limitation of this solution: As pointed out by Justin Blank and Thomas Munk (see their comments), FormData is not supported by IE9 and lower, and default browser on Android 2.3.

What is the difference between dict.items() and dict.iteritems() in Python2?

dict.iteritems() in python 2 is equivalent to dict.items() in python 3.

Should I declare Jackson's ObjectMapper as a static field?

com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory._hashMapSuperInterfaceChain(HierarchicType)

com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory._findSuperInterfaceChain(Type, Class)
  com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory._findSuperTypeChain(Class, Class)
     com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory.findTypeParameters(Class, Class, TypeBindings)
        com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory.findTypeParameters(JavaType, Class)
           com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory._fromParamType(ParameterizedType, TypeBindings)
              com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory._constructType(Type, TypeBindings)
                 com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory.constructType(TypeReference)
                    com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper.convertValue(Object, TypeReference)

The method _hashMapSuperInterfaceChain in class com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.type.TypeFactory is synchronized. Am seeing contention on the same at high loads.

May be another reason to avoid a static ObjectMapper

How to get hostname from IP (Linux)?

In order to use nslookup, host or gethostbyname() then the target's name will need to be registered with DNS or statically defined in the hosts file on the machine running your program. Yes, you could connect to the target with SSH or some other application and query it directly, but for a generic solution you'll need some sort of DNS entry for it.

Where can I find decent visio templates/diagrams for software architecture?

There should be templates already included in Visio 2007 for software architecture but you might want to check out Visio 2007 templates.

Aesthetics must either be length one, or the same length as the dataProblems

The problem is that skew isn't being subsetted in colour=factor(skew), so it's the wrong length. Since subset(skew, product == 'p1') is the same as subset(skew, product == 'p3'), in this case it doesn't matter which subset is used. So you can solve your problem with:

p1 <- ggplot(df, aes(x=subset(price, product=='p1'),
                     y=subset(price, product=='p3'),
                     colour=factor(subset(skew, product == 'p1')))) +
              geom_point(size=2, shape=19)

Note that most R users would write this as the more concise:

p1 <- ggplot(df, aes(x=price[product=='p1'],
                     y=price[product=='p3'],
                     colour=factor(skew[product == 'p1']))) +
              geom_point(size=2, shape=19)

iPhone get SSID without private library

This works for me on the device (not simulator). Make sure you add the systemconfiguration framework.

#import <SystemConfiguration/CaptiveNetwork.h>

+ (NSString *)currentWifiSSID {
    // Does not work on the simulator.
    NSString *ssid = nil;
    NSArray *ifs = (__bridge_transfer id)CNCopySupportedInterfaces();
    for (NSString *ifnam in ifs) {
        NSDictionary *info = (__bridge_transfer id)CNCopyCurrentNetworkInfo((__bridge CFStringRef)ifnam);
        if (info[@"SSID"]) {
            ssid = info[@"SSID"];
        }
    }
    return ssid;
}

Python - difference between two strings

The answer to my comment above on the Original Question makes me think this is all he wants:

loopnum = 0
word = 'afrykanerskojezyczny'
wordlist = ['afrykanerskojezycznym','afrykanerskojezyczni','nieafrykanerskojezyczni']
for i in wordlist:
    wordlist[loopnum] = word
    loopnum += 1

This will do the following:

For every value in wordlist, set that value of the wordlist to the origional code.

All you have to do is put this piece of code where you need to change wordlist, making sure you store the words you need to change in wordlist, and that the original word is correct.

Hope this helps!

Pandas DataFrame to List of Dictionaries

As an extension to John Galt's answer -

For the following DataFrame,

   customer  item1   item2   item3
0         1  apple    milk  tomato
1         2  water  orange  potato
2         3  juice   mango   chips

If you want to get a list of dictionaries including the index values, you can do something like,

df.to_dict('index')

Which outputs a dictionary of dictionaries where keys of the parent dictionary are index values. In this particular case,

{0: {'customer': 1, 'item1': 'apple', 'item2': 'milk', 'item3': 'tomato'},
 1: {'customer': 2, 'item1': 'water', 'item2': 'orange', 'item3': 'potato'},
 2: {'customer': 3, 'item1': 'juice', 'item2': 'mango', 'item3': 'chips'}}

Adding a library/JAR to an Eclipse Android project

Put the source in a folder outside yourt workspace. Rightclick in the project-explorer, and select "Import..."

Import the project in your workspace as an Android project. Try to build it, and make sure it is marked as a library project. Also make sure it is build with Google API support, if not you will get compile errors.

Then, in right click on your main project in the project explorer. Select properties, then select Android on the left. In the library section below, click "Add"..

The mapview-balloons library should now be available to add to your project..

jquery find closest previous sibling with class

I think all the answers are lacking something. I prefer using something like this

$('li.current_sub').prevUntil("li.par_cat").prev();

Saves you not adding :first inside the selector and is easier to read and understand. prevUntil() method has a better performance as well rather than using prevAll()

What is the purpose for using OPTION(MAXDOP 1) in SQL Server?

Adding my two cents, based on a performance issue I observed.

If simple queries are getting parellelized unnecessarily, it can bring more problems than solving one. However, before adding MAXDOP into the query as "knee-jerk" fix, there are some server settings to check.

In Jeremiah Peschka - Five SQL Server Settings to Change, MAXDOP and "COST THRESHOLD FOR PARALLELISM" (CTFP) are mentioned as important settings to check.

Note: Paul White mentioned max server memory aslo as a setting to check, in a response to Performance problem after migration from SQL Server 2005 to 2012. A good kb article to read is Using large amounts of memory can result in an inefficient plan in SQL Server

Jonathan Kehayias - Tuning ‘cost threshold for parallelism’ from the Plan Cache helps to find out good value for CTFP.

Why is cost threshold for parallelism ignored?

Aaron Bertrand - Six reasons you should be nervous about parallelism has a discussion about some scenario where MAXDOP is the solution.

Parallelism-Inhibiting Components are mentioned in Paul White - Forcing a Parallel Query Execution Plan

Throughput and bandwidth difference?

Although there are already few answers to this questions but I think some people still may have doubt in actually visualising the differece b/w throughput and bandwidth just like I had ;) until I read this analogy on quora(full credits to that) which proved really helpful

Consider

A highway which has a capacity of moving ,say, 200 vehicles at a time

but

at a random time someone notices only , say, 150 vehicles moving through it..

say due to some traffic-jam in between...

i.e.

capacity is 200 but not all the time it is fully utilised, actual traffic is only 150 out of a max of 200.

i.e. the bandwidth is 200 per unit time but still actual throughput is 150 ...

I thought it might help someone...

CMake output/build directory

There's little need to set all the variables you're setting. CMake sets them to reasonable defaults. You should definitely not modify CMAKE_BINARY_DIR or CMAKE_CACHEFILE_DIR. Treat these as read-only.

First remove the existing problematic cache file from the src directory:

cd src
rm CMakeCache.txt
cd ..

Then remove all the set() commands and do:

cd Compile && rm -rf *
cmake ../src

As long as you're outside of the source directory when running CMake, it will not modify the source directory unless your CMakeList explicitly tells it to do so.

Once you have this working, you can look at where CMake puts things by default, and only if you're not satisfied with the default locations (such as the default value of EXECUTABLE_OUTPUT_PATH), modify only those you need. And try to express them relative to CMAKE_BINARY_DIR, CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR, PROJECT_BINARY_DIR etc.

If you look at CMake documentation, you'll see variables partitioned into semantic sections. Except for very special circumstances, you should treat all those listed under "Variables that Provide Information" as read-only inside CMakeLists.

Im using this;

func textField(_ textField: UITextField, shouldChangeCharactersIn range: NSRange, replacementString string: String) -> Bool {

        if let txt = textField.text {
            let currentText = txt + string
            if currentText.count > 3 {
                return false
            }
            return true
        }
        return true
    }

How To have Dynamic SQL in MySQL Stored Procedure

After 5.0.13, in stored procedures, you can use dynamic SQL:

delimiter //
CREATE PROCEDURE dynamic(IN tbl CHAR(64), IN col CHAR(64))
BEGIN
    SET @s = CONCAT('SELECT ',col,' FROM ',tbl );
    PREPARE stmt FROM @s;
    EXECUTE stmt;
    DEALLOCATE PREPARE stmt;
END
//
delimiter ;

Dynamic SQL does not work in functions or triggers. See the MySQL documentation for more uses.

How do I select an element in jQuery by using a variable for the ID?

The shortest way would be:

$("#" + row_id)

Limiting the search to the body doesn't have any benefit.

Also, you should consider renaming your ids to something more meaningful (and HTML compliant as per Paolo's answer), especially if you have another set of data that needs to be named as well.

how to use math.pi in java

Your diameter variable won't work because you're trying to store a String into a variable that will only accept a double. In order for it to work you will need to parse it

Ex:

diameter = Double.parseDouble(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("enter the diameter of a sphere.");

How to secure RESTful web services?

If choosing between OAuth versions, go with OAuth 2.0.

OAuth bearer tokens should only be used with a secure transport.

OAuth bearer tokens are only as secure or insecure as the transport that encrypts the conversation. HTTPS takes care of protecting against replay attacks, so it isn't necessary for the bearer token to also guard against replay.

While it is true that if someone intercepts your bearer token they can impersonate you when calling the API, there are plenty of ways to mitigate that risk. If you give your tokens a long expiration period and expect your clients to store the tokens locally, you have a greater risk of tokens being intercepted and misused than if you give your tokens a short expiration, require clients to acquire new tokens for every session, and advise clients not to persist tokens.

If you need to secure payloads that pass through multiple participants, then you need something more than HTTPS/SSL, since HTTPS/SSL only encrypts one link of the graph. This is not a fault of OAuth.

Bearer tokens are easy to for clients to obtain, easy for clients to use for API calls and are widely used (with HTTPS) to secure public facing APIs from Google, Facebook, and many other services.

Convert integers to strings to create output filenames at run time

For a shorten version. If all the indices are smaller than 10, then use the following:

do i=0,9
   fid=100+i
   fname='OUTPUT'//NCHAR(i+48) //'.txt'
   open(fid, file=fname)
   !....
end do

For a general version:

character(len=5) :: charI
do i = 0,100
   fid = 100 + i
   write(charI,"(A)"), i
   fname ='OUTPUT' // trim(charI) // '.txt'
   open(fid, file=fname)
end do

That's all.

Regex to match URL end-of-line or "/" character

You've got a couple regexes now which will do what you want, so that's adequately covered.

What hasn't been mentioned is why your attempt won't work: Inside a character class, $ (as well as ^, ., and /) has no special meaning, so [/$] matches either a literal / or a literal $ rather than terminating the regex (/) or matching end-of-line ($).

How to open google chrome from terminal?

I'm not sure how extensively you've searched, but this seems to be similar to what you're searching for:

(I just assumed you're using Mac since you used the word "terminal")

How to use filesaver.js

Here is a guide to JSZIP to create ZIP files by JavaScript. To download files you need to have filesaver.js, You can include those libraries by:

<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jszip/3.1.4/jszip.min.js"  type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://fastcdn.org/FileSaver.js/1.1.20151003/FileSaver.js" ></script>

Now copy this code and this code will download a zip file with a file hello.txt having content Hello World. If everything thing works fine, this will download a file.

<script type="text/javascript">
    var zip = new JSZip();
    zip.file("Hello.txt", "Hello World\n");
    zip.generateAsync({type:"blob"})
    .then(function(content) {
        // see FileSaver.js
        saveAs(content, "file.zip");
    });
</script>

Now let's get in to deeper. Create an instance of JSZip.

var zip = new JSZip();

Add a file with a Hello World text:

zip.file("hello.txt", "Hello World\n");

Download the filie with name archive.zip

zip.generateAsync({type:"blob"}).then(function(zip) {
    saveAs(zip, "archive.zip");
});

What exactly does numpy.exp() do?

The exponential function is e^x where e is a mathematical constant called Euler's number, approximately 2.718281. This value has a close mathematical relationship with pi and the slope of the curve e^x is equal to its value at every point. np.exp() calculates e^x for each value of x in your input array.

What exactly does the Access-Control-Allow-Credentials header do?

By default, CORS does not include cookies on cross-origin requests. This is different from other cross-origin techniques such as JSON-P. JSON-P always includes cookies with the request, and this behavior can lead to a class of vulnerabilities called cross-site request forgery, or CSRF.

In order to reduce the chance of CSRF vulnerabilities in CORS, CORS requires both the server and the client to acknowledge that it is ok to include cookies on requests. Doing this makes cookies an active decision, rather than something that happens passively without any control.

The client code must set the withCredentials property on the XMLHttpRequest to true in order to give permission.

However, this header alone is not enough. The server must respond with the Access-Control-Allow-Credentials header. Responding with this header to true means that the server allows cookies (or other user credentials) to be included on cross-origin requests.

You also need to make sure your browser isn't blocking third-party cookies if you want cross-origin credentialed requests to work.

Note that regardless of whether you are making same-origin or cross-origin requests, you need to protect your site from CSRF (especially if your request includes cookies).

Calculating the SUM of (Quantity*Price) from 2 different tables

Use:

  SELECT oi.orderid,
         SUM(oi.quantity * p.price) AS grand_total,
    FROM ORDERITEM oi
    JOIN PRODUCT p ON p.id = oi.productid
   WHERE oi.orderid = @OrderId
GROUP BY oi.orderid

Mind that if either oi.quantity or p.price is null, the SUM will return NULL.

Convert DateTime to a specified Format

Easy peasy:

var date = DateTime.Parse("14/11/2011"); // may need some Culture help here
Console.Write(date.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd"));

Take a look at DateTime.ToString() method, Custom Date and Time Format Strings and Standard Date and Time Format Strings

string customFormattedDateTimeString = DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd");

Import Script from a Parent Directory

You don't import scripts in Python you import modules. Some python modules are also scripts that you can run directly (they do some useful work at a module-level).

In general it is preferable to use absolute imports rather than relative imports.

toplevel_package/
+-- __init__.py
+-- moduleA.py
+-- subpackage
    +-- __init__.py
    +-- moduleB.py

In moduleB:

from toplevel_package import moduleA

If you'd like to run moduleB.py as a script then make sure that parent directory for toplevel_package is in your sys.path.

Use Excel pivot table as data source for another Pivot Table

You have to convert the pivot to values first before you can do that:

  • Remove the subtotals
  • Repeat the row items
  • Copy / Paste values
  • Insert a new pivot table

How to make the tab character 4 spaces instead of 8 spaces in nano?

Command-line flag

From man nano:

-T cols (--tabsize=cols)
    Set the size (width) of a tab to cols columns.
    The value of cols must be greater than 0. The default value is 8.
-E (--tabstospaces)
    Convert typed tabs to spaces.

For example, to set the tab size to 4, replace tabs with spaces, and edit the file "foo.txt", you would run the command:

nano -ET4 foo.txt

Config file

From man nanorc:

set tabsize n
    Use a tab size of n columns. The value of n must be greater than 0.
    The default value is 8.
set/unset tabstospaces
    Convert typed tabs to spaces.

Edit your ~/.nanorc file (create it if it does not exist), and add those commands to it. For example:

set tabsize 4
set tabstospaces

Nano will use these settings by default whenever it is launched, but command-line flags will override them.

SOAP or REST for Web Services?

My general rule is that if you want a browser web client to directly connect to a service then you should probably use REST. If you want to pass structured data between back-end services then use SOAP.

SOAP can be a real pain to set up sometimes and is often overkill for simple web client and server data exchanges. Unfortunately, most simple programming examples I've seen (and learned from) somewhat reenforce this perception.

That said, SOAP really shines when you start combining multiple SOAP services together as part of a larger process driven by a data workflow (think enterprise software). This is something that many of the SOAP programming examples fail to convey because a simple SOAP operation to do something, like fetch the price of a stock, is generally overcomplicated for what it does by itself unless it is presented in the context of providing a machine readable API detailing specific functions with set data formats for inputs and outputs that is, in turn, scripted by a larger process.

This is sad, in a way, as it really gives SOAP a bad reputation because it is difficult to show the advantages of SOAP without presenting it in the full context of how the final product is used.

When do you use varargs in Java?

I use varargs frequently for constructors that can take some sort of filter object. For example, a large part of our system based on Hadoop is based on a Mapper that handles serialization and deserialization of items to JSON, and applies a number of processors that each take an item of content and either modify and return it, or return null to reject.

Video file formats supported in iPhone

The short answer is the iPhone supports H.264 video, High profile and AAC audio, in container formats .mov, .mp4, or MPEG Segment .ts. MPEG Segment files are used for HTTP Live Streaming.

  • For maximum compatibility with Android and desktop browsers, use H.264 + AAC in an .mp4 container.
  • For extended length videos longer than 10 minutes you must use HTTP Live Streaming, which is H.264 + AAC in a series of small .ts container files (see App Store Review Guidelines rule 2.5.7).

Video

On the iPhone, H.264 is the only game in town. [1]

There are several different feature tiers or "profiles" available in H.264. All modern iPhones (3GS and above) support the High profile. These profiles are basically three different levels of algorithm "tricks" used to compress the video. More tricks give better compression, but require more CPU or dedicated hardware to decode. This is a table that lists the differences between the different profiles.

[1] Interestingly, Apple's own Facetime uses the newer H.265 (HEVC) video codec. However right now (August 2017) there is no Apple-provided library that gives access to a HEVC codec to developers. This is expected to change at some point.

In talking about what video format the iPhone supports, a distinction should be made between what the hardware can support, and what the (much lower) limits are for playback when streaming over a network.

The only data given about hardware video support by Apple about the current generation of iPhones (SE, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus) is that they support

4K [3840x2160] video recording at 30 fps

1080p [1920x1080] HD video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps.

Obviously the phone can play back what it can record, so we can guess that 3840x2160 at 30 fps and 1920x1080 at 60 fps represent design limits of the phone. In addition, the screen size on the 6S Plus and 7 Plus is 1920x1080. So if you're interested in playback on the phone, it doesn't make sense to send over more pixels then the screen can draw.

However, streaming video is a different matter. Since networks are slow and video is huge, it's typical to use lower resolutions, bitrates, and frame rates than the device's theoretical maximum.

The most detailed document giving recommendations for streaming is TN2224 Best Practices for Creating and Deploying HTTP Live Streaming Media for Apple Devices. Figure 3 in that document gives a table of recommended streaming parameters:

Table of Apple recommended video encoding settings This table is from May 2016.

As you can see, Apple recommends the relatively low resolution of 768x432 as the highest recommended resolution for streaming over a cellular network. Of course this is just a recommendation and YMMV.

Audio

The question is about video, but that video generally has one or more audio tracks with it. The iPhone supports a few audio formats, but the most modern and by far most widely used is AAC. The iPhone 7 / 7 Plus, 6S Plus / 6S, SE all support AAC bitrates of 8 to 320 Kbps.

Container

The audio and video tracks go inside a container. The purpose of the container is to combine (interleave) the different tracks together, to store metadata, and to support seeking. The iPhone supports

  1. QuickTime .mov,
  2. MP4, and
  3. MPEG-TS.

The .mov and .mp4 file formats are closely related (.mp4 is in fact based on .mov), however .mp4 is an ISO standard that has much wider support.

As noted above, you have to use MPEG-TS for videos longer than 10 minutes.

What is Linux’s native GUI API?

The linux kernel graphical operations are in /include/linux/fb.h as struct fb_ops. Eventually this is what add-ons like X11, Wayland, or DRM appear to reference. As these operations are only for video cards, not vector or raster hardcopy or tty oriented terminal devices, their usefulness as a GUI is limited; it's just not entirely true you need those add-ons to get graphical output if you don't mind using some assembler to bypass syscall as necessary.

How to know installed Oracle Client is 32 bit or 64 bit?

A simple way to find this out in Windows is to run SQLPlus from your Oracle homes's bin directory and then check Task Manager. If it is a 32-bit version of SQLPlus, you'll see a process on the Processes tab that looks like this:

sqlplus.exe *32

If it is 64-bit, the process will look like this:

sqlplus.exe

How to sort a Pandas DataFrame by index?

Dataframes have a sort_index method which returns a copy by default. Pass inplace=True to operate in place.

import pandas as pd
df = pd.DataFrame([1, 2, 3, 4, 5], index=[100, 29, 234, 1, 150], columns=['A'])
df.sort_index(inplace=True)
print(df.to_string())

Gives me:

     A
1    4
29   2
100  1
150  5
234  3

Foreign key referencing a 2 columns primary key in SQL Server

The key is "the order of the column should be the same"

Example:

create Table A (
    A_ID char(3) primary key,
    A_name char(10) primary key,
    A_desc desc char(50)
)

create Table B (
    B_ID char(3) primary key,
    B_A_ID char(3),
    B_A_Name char(10),
    constraint [Fk_B_01] foreign key (B_A_ID,B_A_Name) references A(A_ID,A_Name)
)

the column order on table A should be --> A_ID then A_Name; defining the foreign key should follow the same order as well.

START_STICKY and START_NOT_STICKY

KISS answer

Difference:

START_STICKY

the system will try to re-create your service after it is killed

START_NOT_STICKY

the system will not try to re-create your service after it is killed

Standard example:

@Override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
    return START_STICKY;
}

If you can decode JWT, how are they secure?

You can go to jwt.io, paste your token and read the contents. This is jarring for a lot of people initially.

The short answer is that JWT doesn't concern itself with encryption. It cares about validation. That is to say, it can always get the answer for "Have the contents of this token been manipulated"? This means user manipulation of the JWT token is futile because the server will know and disregard the token. The server adds a signature based on the payload when issuing a token to the client. Later on it verifies the payload and matching signature.

The logical question is what is the motivation for not concerning itself with encrypted contents?

  1. The simplest reason is because it assumes this is a solved problem for the most part. If dealing with a client like the web browser for example, you can store the JWT tokens in a cookie that is secure (is not transmitted via HTTP, only via HTTPS) and httpOnly (can't be read by Javascript) and talks to the server over an encrypted channel (HTTPS). Once you know you have a secure channel between the server and client you can securely exchange JWT or whatever else you want.

  2. This keeps thing simple. A simple implementation makes adoption easier but it also lets each layer do what it does best (let HTTPS handle encryption).

  3. JWT isn't meant to store sensitive data. Once the server receives the JWT token and validates it, it is free to lookup the user ID in its own database for additional information for that user (like permissions, postal address, etc). This keeps JWT small in size and avoids inadvertent information leakage because everyone knows not to keep sensitive data in JWT.

It's not too different from how cookies themselves work. Cookies often contain unencrypted payloads. If you are using HTTPS then everything is good. If you aren't then it's advisable to encrypt sensitive cookies themselves. Not doing so will mean that a man-in-the-middle attack is possible--a proxy server or ISP reads the cookies and then replays them later on pretending to be you. For similar reasons, JWT should always be exchanged over a secure layer like HTTPS.

send checkbox value in PHP form

If the checkbox is checked you will get a value for it in your $_POST array. If it isn't the element will be omitted from the array altogether.

The easiest way to test it is like this:

if (isset($_POST['myCheckbox'])) {
  $checkBoxValue = "yes";
} else {
  $checkBoxValue = "no";
}

For your code, add it immediately below the other preprocessing:

$name = $_POST['name'];
$email_address = $_POST['email'];
$message = $_POST['tel'];

if (isset($_POST['newsletter'])) {
  $newsletter = "yes";
} else {
  $newsletter = "no";
}

You'll also need to change the HTML slightly. Change this line:

<input type="checkbox" name="newsletter[]" value="newsletter" checked>i want to sign up for newsletter<br>

to this:

<input type="checkbox" name="newsletter" value="newsletter" checked>i want to sign up   for newsletter<br>
                                      ^^^ remove square brackets here.

Is there anyway to exclude artifacts inherited from a parent POM?

Best bet is to make the dependencies you don't always want to inherit intransitive.

You can do this by marking them in the parent pom with scope provided.

If you still want the parent to manage versions of these deps, you can use the <dependencyManagement> tag to setup the versions you want without explicitly inheriting them, or passing that inheritance along to children.

collapse cell in jupyter notebook

There are many answers to this question, all of which I feel are not satisfactory (some more than others), of the many extensions - code folding, folding by headings etc etc. None do what I want in simple and effective way. I am literally amazed that a solution has not been implemented (as it has for Jupyter Lab).

In fact, I was so dissatisfied that I have developed a very simple notebook extension that can expand/collapse the code in a notebook cell, while keeping it executable.

The GitHub repository: https://github.com/BenedictWilkinsAI/cellfolding

Below is a small demo of what the extension does:

Simply double clicking left of the code cell will collapse it to a single line:

Double clicking again will expand the cell.

The extension can be installed easily with pip:

pip install nbextension-cellfolding
jupyter nbextension install --py cellfolding --user
jupyter nbextension enable --py cellfolding --user

and is also compatible with nbextension configurator. I hope that people will find this useful!
