SOAP PHP fault parsing WSDL: failed to load external entity?

On register_client.php make sure that the URL that has been passed to SoapClient is accessible from the machine you're executing the code.

$sClient = new SoapClient('http://127.0.0.1/MyRegistration/login.wsdl');

If 127.0.0.0 does not work you can try using some network IP address and see.

Let me know if it still does not fix it for you, I did try with your example and changing path (making it proper in my dev. environment) has fixed same error for me.

I would be interested to know if it does not fix it for you.

Chrome blocks different origin requests

This is a security update. If an attacker can modify some file in the web server (the JS one, for example), he can make every loaded pages to download another script (for example to keylog your password or steal your SessionID and send it to his own server).

To avoid it, the browser check the Same-origin policy

Your problem is that the browser is trying to load something with your script (with an Ajax request) that is on another domain (or subdomain). To avoid it (if it is on your own website) you can:

Difference between Statement and PreparedStatement

Advantages of a PreparedStatement:

  • Precompilation and DB-side caching of the SQL statement leads to overall faster execution and the ability to reuse the same SQL statement in batches.

  • Automatic prevention of SQL injection attacks by builtin escaping of quotes and other special characters. Note that this requires that you use any of the PreparedStatement setXxx() methods to set the values

    preparedStatement = connection.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO Person (name, email, birthdate, photo) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?)");
    preparedStatement.setString(1, person.getName());
    preparedStatement.setString(2, person.getEmail());
    preparedStatement.setTimestamp(3, new Timestamp(person.getBirthdate().getTime()));
    preparedStatement.setBinaryStream(4, person.getPhoto());
    preparedStatement.executeUpdate();

    and thus don't inline the values in the SQL string by string-concatenating.

    preparedStatement = connection.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO Person (name, email) VALUES ('" + person.getName() + "', '" + person.getEmail() + "'");
    preparedStatement.executeUpdate();

  • Eases setting of non-standard Java objects in a SQL string, e.g. Date, Time, Timestamp, BigDecimal, InputStream (Blob) and Reader (Clob). On most of those types you can't "just" do a toString() as you would do in a simple Statement. You could even refactor it all to using PreparedStatement#setObject() inside a loop as demonstrated in the utility method below:

    public static void setValues(PreparedStatement preparedStatement, Object... values) throws SQLException {
        for (int i = 0; i < values.length; i++) {
            preparedStatement.setObject(i + 1, values[i]);
        }
    }

    Which can be used as below:

    preparedStatement = connection.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO Person (name, email, birthdate, photo) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?)");
    setValues(preparedStatement, person.getName(), person.getEmail(), new Timestamp(person.getBirthdate().getTime()), person.getPhoto());
    preparedStatement.executeUpdate();

IIS7 URL Redirection from root to sub directory

I think, this could be done without IIS URL Rewrite module. <httpRedirect> supports wildcards, so you can configure it this way:

  <system.webServer>
    <httpRedirect enabled="true">
      <add wildcard="/" destination="/menu_1/MainScreen.aspx" />
    </httpRedirect>
  </system.webServer>

Note that you need to have the "HTTP Redirection" feature enabled on IIS - see HTTP Redirects

How to add an item to an ArrayList in Kotlin?

If you have a MUTABLE collection:

val list = mutableListOf(1, 2, 3)
list += 4

If you have an IMMUTABLE collection:

var list = listOf(1, 2, 3)
list += 4

note that I use val for the mutable list to emphasize that the object is always the same, but its content changes.

In case of the immutable list, you have to make it var. A new object is created by the += operator with the additional value.

How do I convert from a money datatype in SQL server?

First of all, you should never use the money datatype. If you do any calculations you will get truncated results. Run the following to see what I mean

DECLARE
    @mon1 MONEY,
    @mon2 MONEY,
    @mon3 MONEY,
    @mon4 MONEY,
    @num1 DECIMAL(19,4),
    @num2 DECIMAL(19,4),
    @num3 DECIMAL(19,4),
    @num4 DECIMAL(19,4)

    SELECT
    @mon1 = 100, @mon2 = 339, @mon3 = 10000,
    @num1 = 100, @num2 = 339, @num3 = 10000

    SET @mon4 = @mon1/@mon2*@mon3
    SET @num4 = @num1/@num2*@num3

    SELECT @mon4 AS moneyresult,
    @num4 AS numericresult

Output: 2949.0000 2949.8525

Now to answer your question (it was a little vague), the money datatype always has two places after the decimal point. Use the integer datatype if you don't want the fractional part or convert to int.

Perhaps you want to use the decimal or numeric datatype?

Equivalent of typedef in C#

The best alternative to typedef that I've found in C# is using. For example, I can control float precision via compiler flags with this code:

#if REAL_T_IS_DOUBLE
using real_t = System.Double;
#else
using real_t = System.Single;
#endif

Unfortunately, it requires that you place this at the top of every file where you use real_t. There is currently no way to declare a global namespace type in C#.

linking problem: fatal error LNK1112: module machine type 'x64' conflicts with target machine type 'X86'

The error is explicit, you are trying to link libraries that were compiled with different CPU targets. An executable image can only contain pure x86 (32-bit) or pure x64 (64-bit) code. Mixing is not possible.

You change the target CPU by creating a new configuration for the project, only changing the linker setting isn't enough. Build + Configuration Manager, Active solution platform combo on upper right, choose New and select x64. That creates a new configuration with several modified project settings, most importantly the compiler that will be used.

Beware that prior to VS2010, the 64-bit compilers are not installed by default. If you don't see x64 in the platform combo then you'll need to re-run setup.exe and turn on the option to install the 64-bit compilers. Then also re-run any service pack installer you may have applied.

A possible approach with less pain points is to use the 32-bit version of the library.

char initial value in Java

Either you initialize the variable to something

char retChar = 'x';

or you leave it automatically initialized, which is

char retChar = '\0';

an ascii 0, the same as

char retChar = (char) 0;

What can one initialize char values to?

Sounds undecided between automatic initialisation, which means, you have no influence, or explicit initialisation. But you cannot change the default.

How does the "this" keyword work?

"this" is all about scope. Every function has its own scope, and since everything in JS is an object, even a function can store some values into itself using "this". OOP 101 teaches that "this" is only applicable to instances of an object. Therefore, every-time a function executes, a new "instance" of that function has a new meaning of "this".

Most people get confused when they try to use "this" inside of anonymous closure functions like:

(function(value) {
    this.value = value;
    $('.some-elements').each(function(elt){
        elt.innerHTML = this.value;        // uh oh!! possibly undefined
    });
})(2);

So here, inside each(), "this" doesn't hold the "value" that you expect it to (from

this.value = value;
above it). So, to get over this (no pun intended) problem, a developer could:

(function(value) {
    var self = this; // small change
    self.value = value;
    $('.some-elements').each(function(elt){
        elt.innerHTML = self.value;        // phew!! == 2
    });
})(2);

Try it out; you'll begin to like this pattern of programming

node.js execute system command synchronously

Native Node.js solution is:

const {execSync} = require('child_process');

const result = execSync('node -v'); // this do the trick

Just be aware that some commands returns Buffer instead of string. And if you need string just add encoding to execSync options:

const result = execSync('git rev-parse HEAD', {encoding: 'utf8'});

... and it is also good to have timeout on sync exec:

const result = execSync('git rev-parse HEAD', {encoding: 'utf8', timeout: 10000});

How to find sum of several integers input by user using do/while, While statement or For statement

The FOR loop worked well, I modified it a tiny bit:

#include<iostream>
using namespace std;
int main ()
{

    int sum = 0;
    int number;
    int numberitems;

    cout << "Enter number of items: \n";
    cin >> numberitems;

    for(int i=0;i<numberitems;i++)
    {
        cout << "Enter number: \n";
        cin >> number;

        sum=sum+number;

    }
    cout<<"sum is: "<< sum<<endl;
}

HOWEVER, the WHILE loop has got some errors on line 11 (Count was not declared in this scope). What could be the issue? Also, if you would have a solution using DO,WHILE loop it would be wonderful. Thanks

XMLHttpRequest module not defined/found

Since the last update of the xmlhttprequest module was around 2 years ago, in some cases it does not work as expected.

So instead, you can use the xhr2 module. In other words:

var XMLHttpRequest = require("xmlhttprequest").XMLHttpRequest;
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();

becomes:

var XMLHttpRequest = require('xhr2');
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();

But ... of course, there are more popular modules like Axios, because -for example- uses promises:

// Make a request for a user with a given ID
axios.get('/user?ID=12345').then(function (response) {
    console.log(response);
}).catch(function (error) {
    console.log(error);
});

How to draw a circle with text in the middle?

One way to do it is to use flexbox in order to align the text on the middle. The way I found to do it, is the following:

HTML:

<div class="circle-without-text">
  <div class="text-inside-circle">
    The text
  </div>
</div>

CSS:

.circle-without-text {
    border-radius: 50%;
    width: 70vh;
    height: 70vh;
    background-color: red;
    position: relative;
 }

.text-inside-circle {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    bottom: 0;
    width: 100%;
    display: flex;
    align-items: center;
    justify-content: center;
 }

How To Convert A Number To an ASCII Character?

Edit: By request, I added a check to make sure the value entered was within the ASCII range of 0 to 127. Whether you want to limit this is up to you. In C# (and I believe .NET in general), chars are represented using UTF-16, so any valid UTF-16 character value could be cast into it. However, it is possible a system does not know what every Unicode character should look like so it may show up incorrectly.

// Read a line of input
string input = Console.ReadLine();

int value;
// Try to parse the input into an Int32
if (Int32.TryParse(input, out value)) {
    // Parse was successful
    if (value >= 0 and value < 128) {
        //value entered was within the valid ASCII range
        //cast value to a char and print it
        char c = (char)value;
        Console.WriteLine(c);
    }
}

Access Https Rest Service using Spring RestTemplate

One point from me. I used a mutual cert authentication with spring-boot microservices. The following is working for me, key points here are keyManagerFactory.init(...) and sslcontext.init(keyManagerFactory.getKeyManagers(), null, new SecureRandom()) lines of code without them, at least for me, things did not work. Certificates are packaged by PKCS12.

                trustStore.load(inputStream, keyStorePassword.toCharArray());
                keyManagerFactory.init(trustStore, keyStorePassword.toCharArray());
            }

jquery ui Dialog: cannot call methods on dialog prior to initialization

Try this instead

$(document).ready(function() {
  $("#divDialog").dialog(opt).dialog("open");
});

You can also do:

var theDialog = $("#divDialog").dialog(opt);
theDialog.dialog("open");

That's because the dialog is not stored in $('#divDialog'), but on a new div that is created on the fly and returned by the .dialog(opt) function.

Assembly - JG/JNLE/JL/JNGE after CMP

Addition and subtraction in two's complement is the same for signed and unsigned numbers

The key observation is that CMP is basically subtraction, and:

In two's complement (integer representation used by x86), signed and unsigned addition are exactly the same operation

This allows for example hardware developers to implement it more efficiently with just one circuit.

So when you give input bytes to the x86 ADD instruction for example, it does not care if they are signed or not.

However, ADD does set a few flags depending on what happened during the operation:

  • carry: unsigned addition or subtraction result does not fit in bit size, e.g.: 0xFF + 0x01 or 0x00 - 0x01

    For addition, we would need to carry 1 to the next level.

  • sign: result has top bit set. I.e.: is negative if interpreted as signed.

  • overflow: input top bits are both 0 and 0 or 1 and 1 and output inverted is the opposite.

    I.e. signed operation changed sigedness in an impossible way (e.g. positive + positive or negative

We can then interpret those flags in a way that makes comparison match our expectations for signed or unsigned numbers.

This interpretation is exactly what JA vs JG and JB vs JL do for us!

Code example

Here is GNU GAS a code snippet to make this more concrete:

/* 0x0 ==
 *
 * * 0 in 2's complement signed
 * * 0 in 2's complement unsigned
 */
mov $0, %al

/* 0xFF ==
 *
 * *  -1 in 2's complement signed
 * * 255 in 2's complement unsigned
 */
mov $0xFF, %bl

/* Do the operation "Is al < bl?" */
cmp %bl, %al

Note that AT&T syntax is "backwards": mov src, dst. So you have to mentally reverse the operands for the condition codes to make sense with cmp. In Intel syntax, this would be cmp al, bl

After this point, the following jumps would be taken:

  • JB, because 0 < 255
  • JNA, because !(0 > 255)
  • JNL, because !(0 < -1)
  • JG, because 0 > -1

Note how in this particular example the signedness mattered, e.g. JB is taken but not JL.

Runnable example with assertions.

Equals / Negated versions like JLE / JNG are just aliases

By looking at the Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer's Manuals Volume 2 section "Jcc - Jump if Condition Is Met" we see that the encodings are identical, for example:

Opcode  Instruction  Description
7E cb JLE rel8 Jump short if less or equal (ZF=1 or SF ? OF).
7E cb JNG rel8 Jump short if not greater (ZF=1 or SF ? OF).

Browser Caching of CSS files

Your file will probably be cached - but it depends...

Different browsers have slightly different behaviors - most noticeably when dealing with ambiguous/limited caching headers emanating from the server. If you send a clear signal, the browsers obey, virtually all of the time.

The greatest variance by far, is in the default caching configuration of different web servers and application servers.

Some (e.g. Apache) are likely to serve known static file types with HTTP headers encouraging the browser to cache them, while other servers may send no-cache commands with every response - regardless of filetype.

...

So, first off, read some of the excellent HTTP caching tutorials out there. HTTP Caching & Cache-Busting for Content Publishers was a real eye opener for me :-)

Next install and fiddle around with Firebug and the Live HTTP Headers add-on , to find out which headers your server is actually sending.

Then read your web server docs to find out how to tweak them to perfection (or talk your sysadmin into doing it for you).

...

As to what happens when the browser is restarted, it depends on the browser and the user configuration.

As a rule of thumb, expect the browser to be more likely to check in with the server after each restart, to see if anything has changed (see If-Last-Modified and If-None-Match).

If you configure your server correctly, it should be able to return a super-short 304 Not Modified (costing very little bandwidth) and after that the browser will use the cache as normal.

Clear form after submission with jQuery

Send Mail to multiple Recipients in java

InternetAddress.Parse is going to be your friend! See the worked example below:

String to = "[email protected], [email protected], [email protected]";
String toCommaAndSpaces = "[email protected] [email protected], [email protected]";
  1. Parse a comma-separated list of email addresses. Be strict. Require comma separated list.
  2. If strict is true, many (but not all) of the RFC822 syntax rules for emails are enforced.

    msg.setRecipients(Message.RecipientType.CC,
    InternetAddress.parse(to, true));

  3. Parse comma/space-separated list. Cut some slack. We allow spaces seperated list as well, plus invalid email formats.

    msg.setRecipients(Message.RecipientType.BCC,
    InternetAddress.parse(toCommaAndSpaces, false));

What is the 'pythonic' equivalent to the 'fold' function from functional programming?

I believe some of the respondents of this question have missed the broader implication of the fold function as an abstract tool. Yes, sum can do the same thing for a list of integers, but this is a trivial case. fold is more generic. It is useful when you have a sequence of data structures of varying shape and want to cleanly express an aggregation. So instead of having to build up a for loop with an aggregate variable and manually recompute it each time, a fold function (or the Python version, which reduce appears to correspond to) allows the programmer to express the intent of the aggregation much more plainly by simply providing two things:

  • A default starting or "seed" value for the aggregation.
  • A function that takes the current value of the aggregation (starting with the "seed") and the next element in the list, and returns the next aggregation value.

How to implement Android Pull-to-Refresh

Finally, Google released an official version of the pull-to-refresh library!

It is called SwipeRefreshLayout, inside the support library, and the documentation is here:

  1. Add SwipeRefreshLayout as a parent of view which will be treated as a pull to refresh the layout. (I took ListView as an example, it can be any View like LinearLayout, ScrollView etc.)

    <android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout
        android:id="@+id/pullToRefresh"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content">
        <ListView
            android:id="@+id/listView"
            android:layout_width="match_parent"
            android:layout_height="match_parent"/>
    </android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout>

  2. Add a listener to your class

    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        final SwipeRefreshLayout pullToRefresh = findViewById(R.id.pullToRefresh);
        pullToRefresh.setOnRefreshListener(new SwipeRefreshLayout.OnRefreshListener() {
            @Override
            public void onRefresh() {
                refreshData(); // your code
                pullToRefresh.setRefreshing(false);
            }
        });
    }

You can also call pullToRefresh.setRefreshing(true/false); as per your requirement.

UPDATE

Android support libraries have been deprecated and have been replaced by AndroidX. The link to the new library can be found here.

Also, you need to add the following dependency to your project:

implementation 'androidx.swiperefreshlayout:swiperefreshlayout:1.0.0'

OR

You can go to Refactor>>Migrate to AndroidX and Android Studio will handle the dependencies for you.

MVC Redirect to View from jQuery with parameters

If your click handler is successfully called then this should work:

$('#results').on('click', '.item', function () {
            var NestId = $(this).data('id');
            var url = "/Artists/Details?NestId=" + NestId;
            window.location.href = url;
        })

EDIT: In this particular case given that the action method parameter is a string which is nullable, then if NestId == null, won't cause any exception at all, given that the ModelBinder won't complain about it.

Executors.newCachedThreadPool() versus Executors.newFixedThreadPool()

I think the docs explain the difference and usage of these two functions pretty well:

newFixedThreadPool

Creates a thread pool that reuses a fixed number of threads operating off a shared unbounded queue. At any point, at most nThreads threads will be active processing tasks. If additional tasks are submitted when all threads are active, they will wait in the queue until a thread is available. If any thread terminates due to a failure during execution prior to shutdown, a new one will take its place if needed to execute subsequent tasks. The threads in the pool will exist until it is explicitly shutdown.

newCachedThreadPool

Creates a thread pool that creates new threads as needed, but will reuse previously constructed threads when they are available. These pools will typically improve the performance of programs that execute many short-lived asynchronous tasks. Calls to execute will reuse previously constructed threads if available. If no existing thread is available, a new thread will be created and added to the pool. Threads that have not been used for sixty seconds are terminated and removed from the cache. Thus, a pool that remains idle for long enough will not consume any resources. Note that pools with similar properties but different details (for example, timeout parameters) may be created using ThreadPoolExecutor constructors.

In terms of resources, the newFixedThreadPool will keep all the threads running until they are explicitly terminated. In the newCachedThreadPool Threads that have not been used for sixty seconds are terminated and removed from the cache.

Given this, the resource consumption will depend very much in the situation. For instance, If you have a huge number of long running tasks I would suggest the FixedThreadPool. As for the CachedThreadPool, the docs say that "These pools will typically improve the performance of programs that execute many short-lived asynchronous tasks".

AngularJS - How can I do a redirect with a full page load?

We had the same issue, working from JS code (i.e. not from HTML anchor). This is how we solved that:

  1. If needed, virtually alter current URL through $location service. This might be useful if your destination is just a variation on the current URL, so that you can take advantage of $location helper methods. E.g. we ran $location.search(..., ...) to just change value of a querystring paramater.

  2. Build up the new destination URL, using current $location.url() if needed. In order to work, this new one had to include everything after schema, domain and port. So e.g. if you want to move to:

    http://yourdomain.com/YourAppFolder/YourAngularApp/#/YourArea/YourAction?culture=en

    then you should set URL as in:

    var destinationUrl = '/YourAppFolder/YourAngularApp/#/YourArea/YourAction?culture=en';

Array of strings in groovy

Most of the time you would create a list in groovy rather than an array. You could do it like this:

names = ["lucas", "Fred", "Mary"]

Alternately, if you did not want to quote everything like you did in the ruby example, you could do this:

names = "lucas Fred Mary".split()

What is IPV6 for localhost and 0.0.0.0?

The ipv6 localhost is ::1. The unspecified address is ::. This is defined in RFC 4291 section 2.5.

What's the difference between setWebViewClient vs. setWebChromeClient?

WebViewClient provides the following callback methods, with which you can interfere in how WebView makes a transition to the next content.

void doUpdateVisitedHistory (WebView view, String url, boolean isReload)
void onFormResubmission (WebView view, Message dontResend, Message resend)
void onLoadResource (WebView view, String url)
void onPageCommitVisible (WebView view, String url)
void onPageFinished (WebView view, String url)
void onPageStarted (WebView view, String url, Bitmap favicon)
void onReceivedClientCertRequest (WebView view, ClientCertRequest request)

Java ArrayList copy

Another convenient way to copy the values from src ArrayList to dest Arraylist is as follows:

ArrayList<String> src = new ArrayList<String>();
src.add("test string1");
src.add("test string2");
ArrayList<String> dest= new ArrayList<String>();
dest.addAll(src);

This is actual copying of values and not just copying of reference.

Unable to obtain LocalDateTime from TemporalAccessor when parsing LocalDateTime (Java 8)

For what is worth if anyone should read again this topic(like me) the correct answer would be in DateTimeFormatter definition, e.g.:

private static DateTimeFormatter DATE_FORMAT =
            new DateTimeFormatterBuilder().appendPattern("dd/MM/yyyy[ [HH][:mm][:ss][.SSS]]")
            .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.HOUR_OF_DAY, 0)
            .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.MINUTE_OF_HOUR, 0)
            .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.SECOND_OF_MINUTE, 0)
            .toFormatter();

One should set the optional fields if they will appear. And the rest of code should be exactly the same.

How to validate a url in Python? (Malformed or not)

Nowadays, I use the following, based on the Padam's answer:

$ python --version
Python 3.6.5

And this is how it looks:

from urllib.parse import urlparse

def is_url(url):
  try:
    result = urlparse(url)
    return all([result.scheme, result.netloc])
  except ValueError:
    return False

Just use is_url("http://www.asdf.com").

Hope it helps!

Best way to write to the console in PowerShell

Default behaviour of PowerShell is just to dump everything that falls out of a pipeline without being picked up by another pipeline element or being assigned to a variable (or redirected) into Out-Host. What Out-Host does is obviously host-dependent.

Just letting things fall out of the pipeline is not a substitute for Write-Host which exists for the sole reason of outputting text in the host application.

If you want output, then use the Write-* cmdlets. If you want return values from a function, then just dump the objects there without any cmdlet.

In LaTeX, how can one add a header/footer in the document class Letter?

Just before your "Content of the letter" line, add \thispagestyle{fancy} and it should show the headers you defined. (It worked for me.)

Here's the full document that I used to test:

\documentclass[12pt]{letter}

\usepackage{fontspec}% font selecting commands
\usepackage{xunicode}% unicode character macros
\usepackage{xltxtra} % some fixes/extras

% page counting, header/footer
\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\usepackage{lastpage}

\pagestyle{fancy}
\lhead{\footnotesize \parbox{11cm}{Draft 1} }
\lfoot{\footnotesize \parbox{11cm}{\textit{2}}}
\cfoot{}
\rhead{\footnotesize 3}
\rfoot{\footnotesize Page \thepage\ of \pageref{LastPage}}
\renewcommand{\headheight}{24pt}
\renewcommand{\footrulewidth}{0.4pt}

\usepackage{lipsum}% provides filler text

\begin{document}
\name{ Joe Laroo }
\signature{ Joe Laroo }
\begin{letter}{ To-Address }
\renewcommand{\today}{ February 16, 2009 }
\opening{ Opening }

\thispagestyle{fancy}% sets the current page style to 'fancy' -- must occur *after* \opening
\lipsum[1-10]% just dumps ten paragraphs of filler text

\closing{ Yours truly, }
\end{letter}
\end{document}

The \opening command sets the page style to firstpage or empty, so you have to use \thispagestyle after that command.

Why is width: 100% not working on div {display: table-cell}?

I discovered that the higher the value of 'width' is, the smaller the box width is made and vice versa. I found this out because I had the same problem earlier. So:

.inner-wrapper {
    width: 1%;
}

solves the problem.

How to fix date format in ASP .NET BoundField (DataFormatString)?

Formatting depends on the server's culture setting. If you use en-US culture, you can use Short Date Pattern like {0:d}

For example, it formats 6/15/2009 1:45:30 to 6/15/2009

You can check more formats from BoundField.DataFormatString

Rails: How can I set default values in ActiveRecord?

Rails 5+

You can use the attribute method within your models, eg.:

class Account < ApplicationRecord
  attribute :locale, :string, default: 'en'
end

You can also pass a lambda to the default parameter. Example:

attribute :uuid, :string, default: -> { SecureRandom.uuid }

The second argument is the type and it can also be a custom type class instance, for example:

attribute :uuid, UuidType.new, default: -> { SecureRandom.uuid }

Merging two images in C#/.NET

basically i use this in one of our apps: we want to overlay a playicon over a frame of a video:

}
catch (Exception ex)
{
    return;
}

Image frame;
try
{

}
catch (Exception ex)
{
    return;
}

using (frame)
{
    using (var bitmap = new Bitmap(width, height))
    {
        using (var canvas = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap))
        {
            canvas.InterpolationMode = InterpolationMode.HighQualityBicubic;

You need to use a Theme.AppCompat theme (or descendant) with this activity

I had an activity with theme <android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog"> used for showing dialog in my appWidget and i had same problem

i solved this error by changing activity code like below:

@Override

    setTheme(R.style.Theme_AppCompat_Dialog); //this line i added
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_dialog);

How can I send the "&" (ampersand) character via AJAX?

The preferred way is to use a JavaScript library such as jQuery and set your data option as an object, then let jQuery do the encoding, like this:

$.ajax({
  type: "POST",
  url: "/link.json",
  data: { value: poststr },
  error: function(){ alert('some error occured'); }
});

If you can't use jQuery (which is pretty much the standard these days), use encodeURIComponent.

How to make div's percentage width relative to parent div and not viewport

Specifying a non-static position, e.g., position: absolute/relative on a node means that it will be used as the reference for absolutely positioned elements within it http://jsfiddle.net/E5eEk/1/

See https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/CSS/CSS_layout/Positioning#Positioning_contexts

We can change the positioning context — which element the absolutely positioned element is positioned relative to. This is done by setting positioning on one of the element's ancestors.

Get all unique values in a JavaScript array (remove duplicates)

Reduce it!!!

This alternative instead of deduplicating explicitly it will take the array and reduce it so that each value of the array can be iterated and destructured in an accumulative behavior, ignoring the already included values by exploiting the persistence of the array because of the recursiveness.

['a', 1, 'a', 2, '1'].reduce((accumulator, currentValue) => accumulator.includes(currentValue) ? accumulator : [...accumulator, currentValue], [])

Test Example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var array = ['a', 1, 'a', 2, '1'];_x000D_
const reducer = (accumulator, currentValue) => accumulator.includes(currentValue) ? accumulator : [...accumulator, currentValue];_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(_x000D_
  array.reduce(reducer, [])_x000D_
);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Conclusion

By far more elegant and useful when boring for-each approach wants to be avoided (not that it is not useful).

No need for external libraries like Underscore.js, JQuery or Lo-Dash, nor the trouble to create any built-in function to achieve the desired deduplicated effect.

Oh, and HEY!, it can be done as a one-liner!!!

This answered was possible thanks to ES5 (ECMAScript 2015) include() and reduce().

How to convert / cast long to String?

See the reference documentation for the String class: String s = String.valueOf(date);

If your Long might be null and you don't want to get a 4-letter "null" string, you might use Objects.toString, like: String s = Objects.toString(date, null);

EDIT:

You reverse it using Long l = Long.valueOf(s); but in this direction you need to catch NumberFormatException

How to set calculation mode to manual when opening an excel file?

The best way around this would be to create an Excel called 'launcher.xlsm' in the same folder as the file you wish to open. In the 'launcher' file put the following code in the 'Workbook' object, but set the constant TargetWBName to be the name of the file you wish to open.

Private Const TargetWBName As String = "myworkbook.xlsx"

'// First, a function to tell us if the workbook is already open...
Function WorkbookOpen(WorkBookName As String) As Boolean
' returns TRUE if the workbook is open
    WorkbookOpen = False
    On Error GoTo WorkBookNotOpen
    If Len(Application.Workbooks(WorkBookName).Name) > 0 Then
        WorkbookOpen = True
        Exit Function
    End If
WorkBookNotOpen:
End Function

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    'Check if our target workbook is open
    If WorkbookOpen(TargetWBName) = False Then
        'set calculation to manual
        Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
        Workbooks.Open ThisWorkbook.Path & "\" & TargetWBName
        DoEvents
        Me.Close False
    End If
End Sub

Set the constant 'TargetWBName' to be the name of the workbook that you wish to open. This code will simply switch calculation to manual, then open the file. The launcher file will then automatically close itself. *NOTE: If you do not wish to be prompted to 'Enable Content' every time you open this file (depending on your security settings) you should temporarily remove the 'me.close' to prevent it from closing itself, save the file and set it to be trusted, and then re-enable the 'me.close' call before saving again. Alternatively, you could just set the False to True after Me.Close

How to split a dos path into its components in Python

The stuff about about mypath.split("\\") would be better expressed as mypath.split(os.sep). sep is the path separator for your particular platform (e.g., \ for Windows, / for Unix, etc.), and the Python build knows which one to use. If you use sep, then your code will be platform agnostic.

How to convert a date String to a Date or Calendar object?

In brief:

DateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yy");
try {
  Date date = formatter.parse("01/29/02");
} catch (ParseException e) {
  e.printStackTrace();
}

See SimpleDateFormat javadoc for more.

And to turn it into a Calendar, do:

Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.setTime(date);

Detect if checkbox is checked or unchecked in Angular.js ng-change event

You could just use the bound ng-model (answers[item.questID]) value itself in your ng-change method to detect if it has been checked or not.

Example:-

<input type="checkbox" ng-model="answers[item.questID]"
     ng-change="stateChanged(item.questID)" /> <!-- Pass the specific id -->

and

$scope.stateChanged = function (qId) {
   if($scope.answers[qId]){ //If it is checked
       alert('test');
   }
}

Reading a string with scanf

An array "decays" into a pointer to its first element, so scanf("%s", string) is equivalent to scanf("%s", &string[0]). On the other hand, scanf("%s", &string) passes a pointer-to-char[256], but it points to the same place.

Then scanf, when processing the tail of its argument list, will try to pull out a char *. That's the Right Thing when you've passed in string or &string[0], but when you've passed in &string you're depending on something that the language standard doesn't guarantee, namely that the pointers &string and &string[0] -- pointers to objects of different types and sizes that start at the same place -- are represented the same way.

I don't believe I've ever encountered a system on which that doesn't work, and in practice you're probably safe. None the less, it's wrong, and it could fail on some platforms. (Hypothetical example: a "debugging" implementation that includes type information with every pointer. I think the C implementation on the Symbolics "Lisp Machines" did something like this.)

Pandas concat: ValueError: Shape of passed values is blah, indices imply blah2

To drop duplicate indices, use df = df.loc[df.index.drop_duplicates()]. C.f. pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/generated/… – BallpointBen Apr 18 at 15:25

This is wrong but I can't reply directly to BallpointBen's comment due to low reputation. The reason its wrong is that df.index.drop_duplicates() returns a list of unique indices, but when you index back into the dataframe using those the unique indices it still returns all records. I think this is likely because indexing using one of the duplicated indices will return all instances of the index.

Instead, use df.index.duplicated(), which returns a boolean list (add the ~ to get the not-duplicated records):

df = df.loc[~df.index.duplicated()]

Python 2.7: %d, %s, and float()

See String Formatting Operations:

%d is the format code for an integer. %f is the format code for a float.

%s prints the str() of an object (What you see when you print(object)).

%r prints the repr() of an object (What you see when you print(repr(object)).

For a float %s, %r and %f all display the same value, but that isn't the case for all objects. The other fields of a format specifier work differently as well:

>>> print('%10.2s' % 1.123) # print as string, truncate to 2 characters in a 10-place field.
        1.
>>> print('%10.2f' % 1.123) # print as float, round to 2 decimal places in a 10-place field.
      1.12

Java Multiple Inheritance

To solve the problem of mutiple inheritance in Java → interface is used

J2EE (core JAVA) Notes By Mr. K.V.R Page 51

Day - 27

  1. Interfaces are basically used to develop user defined data types.
  2. With respect to interfaces we can achieve the concept of multiple inheritances.
  3. With interfaces we can achieve the concept of polymorphism, dynamic binding and hence we can improve the performance of a JAVA program in turns of memory space and execution time.

An interface is a construct which contains the collection of purely undefined methods or an interface is a collection of purely abstract methods.

[...]

Day - 28:

Syntax-1 for reusing the features of interface(s) to class:

[abstract] class <clsname> implements <intf 1>,<intf 2>.........<intf n>
{
    variable declaration;
    method definition or declaration;
};

In the above syntax clsname represents name of the class which is inheriting the features from ‘n’ number of interfaces. ‘Implements’ is a keyword which is used to inherit the features of interface(s) to a derived class.

[...]

Syntax-2 inheriting ‘n’ number of interfaces to another interface:

interface <intf 0 name> extends <intf 1>,<intf 2>.........<intf n>
{
    variable declaration cum initialization;
    method declaration;
};

[...]

Syntax-3:

[abstract] class <derived class name> extends <base class name> implements <intf 1>,<intf 2>.........<intf n>
{
  variable declaration;
  method definition or declaration;
};

Does the Java &= operator apply & or &&?

see 15.22.2 of the JLS. For boolean operands, the & operator is boolean, not bitwise. The only difference between && and & for boolean operands is that for && it is short circuited (meaning that the second operand isn't evaluated if the first operand evaluates to false).

So in your case, if b is a primitive, a = a && b, a = a & b, and a &= b all do the same thing.

What's the simplest way to list conflicted files in Git?

I would also suggest the following command if you are working on a local git repository or in a directory in which patch -p1 --merge < ... was applied.

grep -rnw . -e '^<<<<<<<$'

Convert seconds into days, hours, minutes and seconds

I don't know why some of these answers are ridiculously long or complex. Here's one using the DateTime Class. Kind of similar to radzserg's answer. This will only display the units necessary, and negative times will have the 'ago' suffix...

function calctime($seconds = 0) {

    $datetime1 = date_create("@0");
    $datetime2 = date_create("@$seconds");
    $interval = date_diff($datetime1, $datetime2);

    if ( $interval->y >= 1 ) $thetime[] = pluralize( $interval->y, 'year' );
    if ( $interval->m >= 1 ) $thetime[] = pluralize( $interval->m, 'month' );
    if ( $interval->d >= 1 ) $thetime[] = pluralize( $interval->d, 'day' );
    if ( $interval->h >= 1 ) $thetime[] = pluralize( $interval->h, 'hour' );
    if ( $interval->i >= 1 ) $thetime[] = pluralize( $interval->i, 'minute' );
    if ( $interval->s >= 1 ) $thetime[] = pluralize( $interval->s, 'second' );

    return isset($thetime) ? implode(' ', $thetime) . ($interval->invert ? ' ago' : '') : NULL;
}

function pluralize($count, $text) {
    return $count . ($count == 1 ? " $text" : " ${text}s");
}

// Examples:
//    -86400 = 1 day ago
//     12345 = 3 hours 25 minutes 45 seconds
// 987654321 = 31 years 3 months 18 days 4 hours 25 minutes 21 seconds

EDIT: If you want to condense the above example down to use less variables / space (at the expense of legibility), here is an alternate version that does the same thing:

function calctime($seconds = 0) {
    $interval = date_diff(date_create("@0"),date_create("@$seconds"));

    foreach (array('y'=>'year','m'=>'month','d'=>'day','h'=>'hour','i'=>'minute','s'=>'second') as $format=>$desc) {
        if ($interval->$format >= 1) $thetime[] = $interval->$format . ($interval->$format == 1 ? " $desc" : " {$desc}s");
    }

    return isset($thetime) ? implode(' ', $thetime) . ($interval->invert ? ' ago' : '') : NULL;
}

'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

For some information I've get error after changing password:

Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

In both cases there was error.

But the thing is after that I've tried it with

mysql -uroot -ppassword instead of

mysql -u root -p password -> with spaces between -uroot and -ppassword so maybe if someone get trouble can try this way.

SQL update trigger only when column is modified

You have two way for your question :

1- Use Update Command in your Trigger.

ALTER TRIGGER [dbo].[tr_SCHEDULE_Modified]
   ON [dbo].[SCHEDULE]
   AFTER UPDATE
AS BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON;
    IF UPDATE (QtyToRepair)
    BEGIN
        UPDATE SCHEDULE
        SET modified = GETDATE()
           , ModifiedUser = SUSER_NAME()
           , ModifiedHost = HOST_NAME()
        FROM SCHEDULE S INNER JOIN Inserted I
        ON S.OrderNo = I.OrderNo and S.PartNumber = I.PartNumber
        WHERE S.QtyToRepair <> I.QtyToRepair
    END
END

2- Use Join between Inserted table and deleted table

ALTER TRIGGER [dbo].[tr_SCHEDULE_Modified]
   ON [dbo].[SCHEDULE]
   AFTER UPDATE
AS BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON;

    UPDATE SCHEDULE
    SET modified = GETDATE()
       , ModifiedUser = SUSER_NAME()
       , ModifiedHost = HOST_NAME()
    FROM SCHEDULE S
    INNER JOIN Inserted I ON S.OrderNo = I.OrderNo and S.PartNumber = I.PartNumber
    INNER JOIN Deleted D ON S.OrderNo = D.OrderNo and S.PartNumber = D.PartNumber
    WHERE S.QtyToRepair <> I.QtyToRepair
    AND D.QtyToRepair <> I.QtyToRepair
END

When you use update command for table SCHEDULE and Set QtyToRepair Column to new value, if new value equal to old value in one or multi row, solution 1 update all updated row in Schedule table but solution 2 update only schedule rows that old value not equal to new value.

Is there a Python Library that contains a list of all the ascii characters?

No, there isn't, but you can easily make one:

    #Your ascii.py program:
    def charlist(begin, end):
        charlist = []
        for i in range(begin, end):
            charlist.append(chr(i))
        return ''.join(charlist)

    #Python shell:
    #import ascii
    #print(ascii.charlist(50, 100))
    #Comes out as:

    #23456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_`abc

Cannot find module cv2 when using OpenCV

I have come accross same as this problem i installed cv2 by

pip install cv2

However when i import cv2 module it displayed no module named cv2 error.
Then i searched and find cv2.pyd files in my computer and i copy and paste to site-packages directory

C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages

then i closed and reopened existing application, it worked.

EDIT I will tell how to install cv2 correctly.

1. Firstly install numpy on your computer by

pip install numpy

2. Download opencv from internet (almost 266 mb).
I download opencv-2.4.12.exe for python 2.7. Then install this opencv-2.4.12.exe file.
I extracted to C:\Users\harun\Downloads to this folder.
After installation go look for cv2.py into the folders.
For me

C:\Users\harun\Downloads\opencv\build\python\2.7\x64

in this folder take thecv2.pyd and copy it in to the

C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages

now you can able to use cv2 in you python scripts.

Converting a column within pandas dataframe from int to string

Use the following code:

df.column_name = df.column_name.astype('str')

Comment out HTML and PHP together

PHP parser will search your entire code for <?php (or <? if short_open_tag = On), so HTML comment tags have no effect on PHP parser behavior & if you don't want to parse your PHP code, you have to use PHP commenting directives(/* */ or //).

How to insert a blob into a database using sql server management studio

However you can simply read a file from disk on SQL server machine:

select * from openrowset (bulk 'c:\path\filename.ext',single_blob) a

to see it in management application in hex form (Management Studio).

So, you can, for example, backup database to file (locally on server) and then download it to other place by the statement above.

linking jquery in html

Seeing the answers I have nothing else to add but one more thing:

in your test.html file you have written

link rel="stylesheet" type="css/text" href="test.css"/

see where you have written

type="css/text"

there you need to change into

type="text/css"

so it will look like that

link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="test.css"/

and in this case the CSS file will be linked to HTML file

Iterate through every file in one directory

Dir.foreach("/home/mydir") do |fname|
  puts fname
end

Reading string from input with space character?

"%s" will read the input until whitespace is reached.

gets might be a good place to start if you want to read a line (i.e. all characters including whitespace until a newline character is reached).

Laravel 5.2 - pluck() method returns array

In the original example, why not use the select() method in your database query?

$name = DB::table('users')->where('name', 'John')->select("id");

This will be faster than using a PHP framework, for it'll utilize the SQL query to do the row selection for you. For ordinary collections, I don't believe this applies, but since you're using a database...

How to create timer in angular2

Another solution is to use TimerObservable

TimerObservable is a subclass of Observable.

import {Component, OnInit, OnDestroy} from '@angular/core';
import {Subscription} from "rxjs";
import {TimerObservable} from "rxjs/observable/TimerObservable";

@Component({
  selector: 'app-component',
  template: '{{tick}}',
})
export class Component implements OnInit, OnDestroy {

  private tick: string;
  private subscription: Subscription;

  constructor() {
  }

  ngOnInit() {
    let timer = TimerObservable.create(2000, 1000);
    this.subscription = timer.subscribe(t => {
      this.tick = t;
    });
  }

  ngOnDestroy() {
    this.subscription.unsubscribe();
  }
}

P.S.: Don't forget to unsubsribe.

Is there an advantage to use a Synchronized Method instead of a Synchronized Block?

TLDR; Neither use the synchronized modifier nor the synchronized(this){...} expression but synchronized(myLock){...} where myLock is a final instance field holding a private object.

The difference between using the synchronized modifier on the method declaration and the synchronized(..){ } expression in the method body are this:

  • The synchronized modifier specified on the method's signature
    1. is visible in the generated JavaDoc,
    2. is programmatically determinable via reflection when testing a method's modifier for Modifier.SYNCHRONIZED,
    3. requires less typing and indention compared to synchronized(this) { .... }, and
    4. (depending on your IDE) is visible in the class outline and code completion,
    5. uses the this object as lock when declared on non-static method or the enclosing class when declared on a static method.
  • The synchronized(...){...} expression allows you
    1. to only synchronize the execution of parts of a method's body,
    2. to be used within a constructor or a (static) initialization block,
    3. to choose the lock object which controls the synchronized access.

However, using the synchronized modifier or synchronized(...) {...} with this as the lock object (as in synchronized(this) {...}), have the same disadvantage. Both use it's own instance as the lock object to synchronize on. This is dangerous because not only the object itself but any other external object/code that holds a reference to that object can also use it as a synchronization lock with potentially severe side effects (performance degradation and deadlocks).

Therefore best practice is to neither use the synchronized modifier nor the synchronized(...) expression in conjunction with this as lock object but a lock object private to this object. For example:

public class MyService {
    private final lock = new Object();

    public void doThis() {
       synchronized(lock) {
          // do code that requires synchronous execution
        }
    }

    public void doThat() {
       synchronized(lock) {
          // do code that requires synchronous execution
        }
    }
}

You can also use multiple lock objects but special care needs to be taken to ensure this does not result in deadlocks when used nested.

public class MyService {
    private final lock1 = new Object();
    private final lock2 = new Object();

    public void doThis() {
       synchronized(lock1) {
          synchronized(lock2) {
              // code here is guaranteed not to be executes at the same time
              // as the synchronized code in doThat() and doMore().
          }
    }

    public void doThat() {
       synchronized(lock1) {
              // code here is guaranteed not to be executes at the same time
              // as the synchronized code in doThis().
              // doMore() may execute concurrently
        }
    }

    public void doMore() {
       synchronized(lock2) {
              // code here is guaranteed not to be executes at the same time
              // as the synchronized code in doThis().
              // doThat() may execute concurrently
        }
    }
}

Base64 Java encode and decode a string

For Spring Users , Spring Security has a Base64 class in the org.springframework.security.crypto.codec package that can also be used for encoding and decoding of Base64. Ex.

 public static String base64Encode(String token) {
    byte[] encodedBytes = Base64.encode(token.getBytes());
    return new String(encodedBytes, Charset.forName("UTF-8"));
}

public static String base64Decode(String token) {
    byte[] decodedBytes = Base64.decode(token.getBytes());
    return new String(decodedBytes, Charset.forName("UTF-8"));
}

How can I disable all views inside the layout?

Details

  • Android studio 3.1.4
  • Kotlin 1.2.70
  • checked in minSdkVersion 19

Solution

fun View.forEachChildView(closure: (View) -> Unit) {
    closure(this)
    val groupView = this as? ViewGroup ?: return
    val size = groupView.childCount - 1
    for (i in 0..size) {
        groupView.getChildAt(i).forEachChildView(closure)
    }
}

Usage

val layout = LinearLayout(context!!)
layout.forEachChildView {  it.isEnabled = false  }

val view = View(context!!)
view.forEachChildView {  it.isEnabled = false  }

val fragment = Fragment.instantiate(context, "fragment_id")
fragment.view?.forEachChildView {  it.isEnabled = false  }

Is there a CSS selector for elements containing certain text?

For those who are looking to do Selenium CSS text selections, this script might be of some use.

The trick is to select the parent of the element that you are looking for, and then search for the child that has the text:

public static IWebElement FindByText(this IWebDriver driver, string text)
{
    var list = driver.FindElement(By.CssSelector("#RiskAddressList"));
    var element = ((IJavaScriptExecutor)driver).ExecuteScript(string.Format(" var x = $(arguments[0]).find(\":contains('{0}')\"); return x;", text), list);
    return ((System.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection<IWebElement>)element)[0];
}

This will return the first element if there is more than one since it's always one element, in my case.

OOP vs Functional Programming vs Procedural

These paradigms don't have to be mutually exclusive. If you look at python, it supports functions and classes, but at the same time, everything is an object, including functions. You can mix and match functional/oop/procedural style all in one piece of code.

What I mean is, in functional languages (at least in Haskell, the only one I studied) there are no statements! functions are only allowed one expression inside them!! BUT, functions are first-class citizens, you can pass them around as parameters, along with a bunch of other abilities. They can do powerful things with few lines of code.

While in a procedural language like C, the only way you can pass functions around is by using function pointers, and that alone doesn't enable many powerful tasks.

In python, a function is a first-class citizen, but it can contain arbitrary number of statements. So you can have a function that contains procedural code, but you can pass it around just like functional languages.

Same goes for OOP. A language like Java doesn't allow you to write procedures/functions outside of a class. The only way to pass a function around is to wrap it in an object that implements that function, and then pass that object around.

In Python, you don't have this restriction.

Python 3 Building an array of bytes

Use a bytearray:

>>> frame = bytearray()
>>> frame.append(0xA2)
>>> frame.append(0x01)
>>> frame.append(0x02)
>>> frame.append(0x03)
>>> frame.append(0x04)
>>> frame
bytearray(b'\xa2\x01\x02\x03\x04')

or, using your code but fixing the errors:

frame = b""
frame += b'\xA2'
frame += b'\x01'
frame += b'\x02'
frame += b'\x03'
frame += b'\x04'

How can I generate an HTML report for Junit results?

There are multiple options available for generating HTML reports for Selenium WebDriver scripts.

1. Use the JUNIT TestWatcher class for creating your own Selenium HTML reports

The TestWatcher JUNIT class allows overriding the failed() and succeeded() JUNIT methods that are called automatically when JUNIT tests fail or pass.

The TestWatcher JUNIT class allows overriding the following methods:

  • protected void failed(Throwable e, Description description)

failed() method is invoked when a test fails

  • protected void finished(Description description)

finished() method is invoked when a test method finishes (whether passing or failing)

  • protected void skipped(AssumptionViolatedException e, Description description)

skipped() method is invoked when a test is skipped due to a failed assumption.

  • protected void starting(Description description)

starting() method is invoked when a test is about to start

  • protected void succeeded(Description description)

succeeded() method is invoked when a test succeeds

See below sample code for this case:

import static org.junit.Assert.assertTrue;
import org.junit.Test;

public class TestClass2 extends WatchManClassConsole {

    @Test public void testScript1() {
        assertTrue(1 < 2); >
    }

    @Test public void testScript2() {
        assertTrue(1 > 2);
    }

    @Test public void testScript3() {
        assertTrue(1 < 2);
    }

    @Test public void testScript4() {
        assertTrue(1 > 2);
    }
}

import org.junit.Rule;
import org.junit.rules.TestRule;
import org.junit.rules.TestWatcher;
import org.junit.runner.Description;
import org.junit.runners.model.Statement;

public class WatchManClassConsole {

    @Rule public TestRule watchman = new TestWatcher() {

        @Override public Statement apply(Statement base, Description description) {
            return super.apply(base, description);
        }

        @Override protected void succeeded(Description description) {
            System.out.println(description.getDisplayName() + " " + "success!");
        }

        @Override protected void failed(Throwable e, Description description) {
            System.out.println(description.getDisplayName() + " " + e.getClass().getSimpleName());
        }
    };
}

2. Use the Allure Reporting framework

Allure framework can help with generating HTML reports for your Selenium WebDriver projects.

The reporting framework is very flexible and it works with many programming languages and unit testing frameworks.

You can read everything about it at http://allure.qatools.ru/.

You will need the following dependencies and plugins to be added to your pom.xml file

  1. maven surefire
  2. aspectjweaver
  3. allure adapter

See more details including code samples on this article: http://test-able.blogspot.com/2015/10/create-selenium-html-reports-with-allure-framework.html

How do I type a TAB character in PowerShell?

Change a Django form field to a hidden field

For normal form you can do

class MyModelForm(forms.ModelForm):
    slug = forms.CharField(widget=forms.HiddenInput())

If you have model form you can do the following

class MyModelForm(forms.ModelForm):
    class Meta:
        model = TagStatus
        fields = ('slug', 'ext')
        widgets = {'slug': forms.HiddenInput()}

You can also override __init__ method

class Myform(forms.Form):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        super(Myform, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)
        self.fields['slug'].widget = forms.HiddenInput()

How are SSL certificate server names resolved/Can I add alternative names using keytool?

How host name verification should be done is defined in RFC 6125, which is quite recent and generalises the practice to all protocols, and replaces RFC 2818, which was specific to HTTPS. (I'm not even sure Java 7 uses RFC 6125, which might be too recent for this.)

From RFC 2818 (Section 3.1):

If a subjectAltName extension of type dNSName is present, that MUST be used as the identity. Otherwise, the (most specific) Common Name field in the Subject field of the certificate MUST be used. Although the use of the Common Name is existing practice, it is deprecated and Certification Authorities are encouraged to use the dNSName instead.

[...]

In some cases, the URI is specified as an IP address rather than a hostname. In this case, the iPAddress subjectAltName must be present in the certificate and must exactly match the IP in the URI.

Essentially, the specific problem you have comes from the fact that you're using IP addresses in your CN and not a host name. Some browsers might work because not all tools follow this specification strictly, in particular because "most specific" in RFC 2818 isn't clearly defined (see discussions in RFC 6215).

If you're using keytool, as of Java 7, keytool has an option to include a Subject Alternative Name (see the table in the documentation for -ext): you could use -ext san=dns:www.example.com or -ext san=ip:10.0.0.1.

EDIT:

You can request a SAN in OpenSSL by changing openssl.cnf (it will pick the copy in the current directory if you don't want to edit the global configuration, as far as I remember, or you can choose an explicit location using the OPENSSL_CONF environment variable).

Set the following options (find the appropriate sections within brackets first):

[req]
req_extensions = v3_req

[ v3_req ]
subjectAltName=IP:10.0.0.1
# or subjectAltName=DNS:www.example.com

There's also a nice trick to use an environment variable for this (rather in than fixing it in a configuration file) here: http://www.crsr.net/Notes/SSL.html

Closing Twitter Bootstrap Modal From Angular Controller

I have remixed the answer by @isubuz and this answer by @Umur Kontaci on attribute directives into a version where your controller doesn't call a DOM-like operation like "dismiss", but instead tries to be more MVVM style, setting a boolean property isInEditMode. The view in turn links this bit of info to the attribute directive that opens/closes the bootstrap modal.

Parsing a JSON array using Json.Net

Use Manatee.Json https://github.com/gregsdennis/Manatee.Json/wiki/Usage

And you can convert the entire object to a string, filename.json is expected to be located in documents folder.

        var text = File.ReadAllText("filename.json");
        var json = JsonValue.Parse(text);

        while (JsonValue.Null != null)
        {
            Console.WriteLine(json.ToString());

        }
        Console.ReadLine();

How do I use dataReceived event of the SerialPort Port Object in C#?

I think your issue is the line:**

sp.DataReceived += port_OnReceiveDatazz;

Shouldn't it be:

sp.DataReceived += new SerialDataReceivedEventHandler (port_OnReceiveDatazz);

**Nevermind, the syntax is fine (didn't realize the shortcut at the time I originally answered this question).

I've also seen suggestions that you should turn the following options on for your serial port:

sp.DtrEnable = true;    // Data-terminal-ready
sp.RtsEnable = true;    // Request-to-send

You may also have to set the handshake to RequestToSend (via the handshake enumeration).

UPDATE:

Found a suggestion that says you should open your port first, then assign the event handler. Maybe it's a bug?

So instead of this:

sp.DataReceived += new SerialDataReceivedEventHandler (port_OnReceiveDatazz);
sp.Open();

Do this:

sp.Open();
sp.DataReceived += new SerialDataReceivedEventHandler (port_OnReceiveDatazz);

Let me know how that goes.

How to get item's position in a list?

If your list got large enough and you only expected to find the value in a sparse number of indices, consider that this code could execute much faster because you don't have to iterate every value in the list.

lookingFor = 1
i = 0
index = 0
try:
  while i < len(testlist):
    index = testlist.index(lookingFor,i)
    i = index + 1
    print index
except ValueError: #testlist.index() cannot find lookingFor
  pass

If you expect to find the value a lot you should probably just append "index" to a list and print the list at the end to save time per iteration.

jQuery select2 get value of select tag?

Matplotlib scatterplot; colour as a function of a third variable

In matplotlib grey colors can be given as a string of a numerical value between 0-1.
For example c = '0.1'

Then you can convert your third variable in a value inside this range and to use it to color your points.
In the following example I used the y position of the point as the value that determines the color:

from matplotlib import pyplot as plt

x = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]
y = [125, 32, 54, 253, 67, 87, 233, 56, 67]

color = [str(item/255.) for item in y]

plt.scatter(x, y, s=500, c=color)

plt.show()

Calling variable defined inside one function from another function

    category=random.choice(list(lists.keys()))
    word=random.choice(lists[category])

    for letter in word:
        print("_",end=" ")

#include <stdio.h>

int main(void) {

}

This returns 4, but it's probably machine dependant.

How to make VS Code to treat other file extensions as certain language?

I have followed a different approach to solve pretty much the same problem, in my case, I made a new extension that adds PHP syntax highlighting support for Drupal-specific files (such as .module and .inc): https://github.com/mastazi/VS-code-drupal

As you can see in the code, I created a new extension rather than modifying the existing PHP extension. Obviously I declare a dependency on the PHP extension in the Drupal extension.

The advantage of doing it this way is that if there is an update to the PHP extension, my custom support for Drupal doesn't get lost in the update process.

How do I install a module globally using npm?

I had issues installing Express on Ubuntu:

If for some reason NPM command is missing, test npm command with npm help. If not there, follow these steps - http://arnolog.net/post/8424207595/installing-node-js-npm-express-mongoose-on-ubuntu

If just the Express command is not working, try:

sudo npm install -g express

This made everything work as I'm used to with Windows7 and OSX.

Hope this helps!

Apache VirtualHost 403 Forbidden

This may be a permissions problem.

every single parent path to the virtual document root must be Readable, Writable, and Executable by the web server httpd user

according to this page about Apache 403 errors.

Since you're using Allow from all, your order shouldn't matter, but you might try switching it to Deny,Allow to set the default behavior to "allowing."

MySQL: Insert datetime into other datetime field

Try

    UPDATE products SET former_date=20111218131717 WHERE id=1

Alternatively, you might want to look at using the STR_TO_DATE (see STR_TO_DATE(str,format)) function.

Using NULL in C++?

From crtdbg.h (and many other headers):

#ifndef NULL
#ifdef __cplusplus
#define NULL    0
#else
#define NULL    ((void *)0)
#endif
#endif

Therefore NULL is 0, at least on the Windows platform. So no, not that I know of.

SQL Server : error converting data type varchar to numeric

There's no guarantee that SQL Server won't attempt to perform the CONVERT to numeric(20,0) before it runs the filter in the WHERE clause.

And, even if it did, ISNUMERIC isn't adequate, since it recognises £ and 1d4 as being numeric, neither of which can be converted to numeric(20,0).(*)

Split it into two separate queries, the first of which filters the results and places them in a temp table or table variable, the second of which performs the conversion. (Subqueries and CTEs are inadequate to prevent the optimizer from attempting the conversion before the filter)

For your filter, probably use account_code not like '%[^0-9]%' instead of ISNUMERIC.

(*) ISNUMERIC answers the question that no-one (so far as I'm aware) has ever wanted to ask - "can this string be converted to any of the numeric datatypes - I don't care which?" - when obviously, what most people want to ask is "can this string be converted to x?" where x is a specific target datatype.

String in function parameter

function("MyString");

is similar to

char *s = "MyString";
function(s);

"MyString" is in both cases a string literal and in both cases the string is unmodifiable.

function("MyString");

passes the address of a string literal to function as an argument.

Java: object to byte[] and byte[] to object converter (for Tokyo Cabinet)

You can look at how Hector does this for Cassandra, where the goal is the same - convert everything to and from byte[] in order to store/retrieve from a NoSQL database - see here. For the primitive types (+String), there are special Serializers, otherwise there is the generic ObjectSerializer (expecting Serializable, and using ObjectOutputStream). You can, of course, use only it for everything, but there might be redundant meta-data in the serialized form.

I guess you can copy the entire package and make use of it.

Print out the values of a (Mat) matrix in OpenCV C++

If you are using opencv3, you can print Mat like python numpy style:

Mat xTrainData = (Mat_<float>(5,2) << 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2);

cout << "xTrainData (python)  = " << endl << format(xTrainData, Formatter::FMT_PYTHON) << endl << endl;

Output as below, you can see it'e more readable, see here for more information.

enter image description here

But in most case, there is no need to output all the data in Mat, you can output by row range like 0 ~ 2 row:

#include <opencv2/imgproc/imgproc.hpp>
#include <opencv2/highgui/highgui.hpp>

#include <iostream>
#include <iomanip>

using namespace cv;
using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char** argv)
{
    //row: 6, column: 3,unsigned one channel
    Mat image1(6, 3, CV_8UC1, 5);

    // output row: 0 ~ 2
    cout << "image1 row: 0~2 = "<< endl << " "  << image1.rowRange(0, 2) << endl << endl;

    //row: 8, column: 2,unsigned three channel
    Mat image2(8, 2, CV_8UC3, Scalar(1, 2, 3));

    // output row: 0 ~ 2
    cout << "image2 row: 0~2 = "<< endl << " "  << image2.rowRange(0, 2) << endl << endl;

    return 0;
}

Output as below:

Choose Git merge strategy for specific files ("ours", "mine", "theirs")

Even though this question is answered, providing an example as to what "theirs" and "ours" means in the case of git rebase vs merge. See this link

Git Rebase
theirs is actually the current branch in the case of rebase. So the below set of commands are actually accepting your current branch changes over the remote branch.

# see current branch
$ git branch
...
* branch-a
# rebase preferring current branch changes during conflicts
$ git rebase -X theirs branch-b

Git Merge
For merge, the meaning of theirs and ours is reversed. So, to get the same effect during a merge, i.e., keep your current branch changes (ours) over the remote branch being merged (theirs).

# assuming branch-a is our current version
$ git merge -X ours branch-b  # <- ours: branch-a, theirs: branch-b

Writing sqlplus output to a file

Also note that the SPOOL output is driven by a few SQLPlus settings:

  • SET LINESIZE nn - maximum line width; if the output is longer it will wrap to display the contents of each result row.

  • SET TRIMSPOOL OFF|ON - if set OFF (the default), every output line will be padded to LINESIZE. If set ON, every output line will be trimmed.

  • SET PAGESIZE nn - number of lines to output for each repetition of the header. If set to zero, no header is output; just the detail.

Those are the biggies, but there are some others to consider if you just want the output without all the SQLPlus chatter.

Deserialize JSON to Array or List with HTTPClient .ReadAsAsync using .NET 4.0 Task pattern

The return type depends on the server, sometimes the response is indeed a JSON array but sent as text/plain

Setting the accept headers in the request should get the correct type:

client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Add(new MediaTypeWithQualityHeaderValue("application/json"));

which can then be serialized to a JSON list or array. Thanks for the comment from @svick which made me curious that it should work.

The Exception I got without configuring the accept headers was System.Net.Http.UnsupportedMediaTypeException.

Following code is cleaner and should work (untested, but works in my case):

    var client = new HttpClient();
    client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Add(new MediaTypeWithQualityHeaderValue("application/json"));
    var response = await client.GetAsync("http://api.usa.gov/jobs/search.json?query=nursing+jobs");
    var model = await response.Content.ReadAsAsync<List<Job>>();

The real answer is here if you try to install bundler 2.0.1 or 2.0.0 due to Bundler requiring RubyGems v3.0.0

Yesterday I released Bundler 2.0 that introduced a number of breaking changes. One of the those changes was setting Bundler to require RubyGems v3.0.0. After making the release, it has become clear that lots of our users are running into issues with Bundler 2 requiring a really new version of RubyGems.

We have been listening closely to feedback from users and have decided to relax the RubyGems requirement to v2.5.0 at minimum. We have released a new Bundler version, v2.0.1, that adjusts this requirement.

For more info, see: https://bundler.io/blog/2019/01/04/an-update-on-the-bundler-2-release.html

Determining image file size + dimensions via Javascript?

Edit:

To get the current in-browser pixel size of a DOM element (in your case IMG elements) excluding the border and margin, you can use the clientWidth and clientHeight properties.

var img = document.getElementById('imageId');

var width = img.clientWidth;
var height = img.clientHeight;

Now to get the file size, now I can only think about the fileSize property that Internet Explorer exposes for document and IMG elements...

Edit 2: Something comes to my mind...

To get the size of a file hosted on the server, you could simply make an HEAD HTTP Request using Ajax. This kind of request is used to obtain metainformation about the url implied by the request without transferring any content of it in the response.

At the end of the HTTP Request, we have access to the response HTTP Headers, including the Content-Length which represents the size of the file in bytes.

A basic example using raw XHR:

var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
xhr.open('HEAD', 'img/test.jpg', true);
xhr.onreadystatechange = function(){
  if ( xhr.readyState == 4 ) {
    if ( xhr.status == 200 ) {
      alert('Size in bytes: ' + xhr.getResponseHeader('Content-Length'));
    } else {
      alert('ERROR');
    }
  }
};
xhr.send(null);

Note: Keep in mind that when you do Ajax requests, you are restricted by the Same origin policy, which allows you to make requests only within the same domain.

Check a working proof of concept here.

Edit 3:

1.) About the Content-Length, I think that a size mismatch could happen for example if the server response is gzipped, you can do some tests to see if this happens on your server.

2.) For get the original dimensions of a image, you could create an IMG element programmatically, for example:

var img = document.createElement('img');

img.onload = function () { alert(img.width + ' x ' + img.height); };

img.src='http://sstatic.net/so/img/logo.png';

Highest Salary in each department

where salary=(select max(sal)
              from EMP w
              where  groupby w.deptno having e.deptno=w.deptno)

I hope it will work...

ListBox with ItemTemplate (and ScrollBar!)

I pasted your code into test project, added about 20 items and I get usable scroll bars, no problem, and they work as expected. When I only add a couple items (such that scrolling is unnecessary) I get no usable scrollbar. Could this be the case? that you are not adding enough items?

If you remove the ScrollViewer.VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Visible" then the scroll bars only appear when you have need of them.

Setting equal heights for div's with jQuery

Important improvement! (I added $(this).height('auto'); before measuring height - we should reset it to auto. Then we can use this function on resize)

function equalheight () {
            $('.cont_for_height').each(function(){

                var highestBox = 0;
                $('.column_height', this).each(function(){

                    var htmlString = $( this ).html()

                    ;

                $(this).height('auto');

                    if($(this).height() > highestBox)
                       highestBox = $(this).height();
                });

                $('.column_height',this).height(highestBox);

        });

        }

How to install easy_install in Python 2.7.1 on Windows 7

The recommended way to install setuptools on Windows is to download ez_setup.py and run it. The script will download the appropriate .egg file and install it for you.

For best results, uninstall previous versions FIRST (see Uninstalling).

Once installation is complete, you will find an easy_install.exe program in your Python Scripts subdirectory. For simple invocation and best results, add this directory to your PATH environment variable, if it is not already present.

Amazon S3 exception: "The specified key does not exist"

For me, the object definitely existed and was uploaded correctly, however, its s3 url still threw the same error:

<Code>NoSuchKey</Code>
<Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message>

I found out that the reason was because my filename contained a # symbol, and I guess certain characters or symbols will also cause this error.

Removing this character and generating the new s3 url resolved my issue.

Hiding a sheet in Excel 2007 (with a password) OR hide VBA code in Excel

No.

If the user is sophisticated or determined enough to:

  1. Open the Excel VBA editor
  2. Use the object browser to see the list of all sheets, including VERYHIDDEN ones
  3. Change the property of the sheet to VISIBLE or just HIDDEN

then they are probably sophisticated or determined enough to:

  1. Search the internet for "remove Excel 2007 project password"
  2. Apply the instructions they find.

So what's on this hidden sheet? Proprietary information like price formulas, or client names, or employee salaries? Putting that info in even an hidden tab probably isn't the greatest idea to begin with.

Compare two Byte Arrays? (Java)

Since I wanted to compare two arrays for a unit Test and I arrived on this answer I thought I could share.

You can also do it with:

@Test
public void testTwoArrays() {
  byte[] array = new BigInteger("1111000011110001", 2).toByteArray();
  byte[] secondArray = new BigInteger("1111000011110001", 2).toByteArray();

  Assert.assertArrayEquals(array, secondArray);
}

And you could check on Comparing arrays in JUnit assertions for more infos.

TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str' in python and CSV

file = open('parsed_data.txt', 'w')
for link in soup.findAll('a', attrs={'href': re.compile("^http")}): print (link)
soup_link = str(link)
print (soup_link)
file.write(soup_link)
file.flush()
file.close()

In my case, I used BeautifulSoup to write a .txt with Python 3.x. It had the same issue. Just as @tsduteba said, change the 'wb' in the first line to 'w'.

What is a callback?

A callback is a function that will be called when a process is done executing a specific task.

The usage of a callback is usually in asynchronous logic.

To create a callback in C#, you need to store a function address inside a variable. This is achieved using a delegate or the new lambda semantic Func or Action.

    public delegate void WorkCompletedCallBack(string result);

    public void DoWork(WorkCompletedCallBack callback)
    {
        callback("Hello world");
    }

    public void Test()
    {
        WorkCompletedCallBack callback = TestCallBack; // Notice that I am referencing a method without its parameter
        DoWork(callback);
    }

    public void TestCallBack(string result)
    {
        Console.WriteLine(result);
    }

In today C#, this could be done using lambda like:

    public void DoWork(Action<string> callback)
    {
        callback("Hello world");
    }

    public void Test()
    {
        DoWork((result) => Console.WriteLine(result));
    }

map vs. hash_map in C++

hash_map was a common extension provided by many library implementations. That is exactly why it was renamed to unordered_map when it was added to the C++ standard as part of TR1. map is generally implemented with a balanced binary tree like a red-black tree (implementations vary of course). hash_map and unordered_map are generally implemented with hash tables. Thus the order is not maintained. unordered_map insert/delete/query will be O(1) (constant time) where map will be O(log n) where n is the number of items in the data structure. So unordered_map is faster, and if you don't care about the order of the items should be preferred over map. Sometimes you want to maintain order (ordered by the key) and for that map would be the choice.

How to detect current state within directive

Also you can use ui-sref-active directive:

<ul>
  <li ui-sref-active="active" class="item">
    <a href ui-sref="app.user({user: 'bilbobaggins'})">@bilbobaggins</a>
  </li>
  <!-- ... -->
</ul>

Or filters: "stateName" | isState & "stateName" | includedByState

Normalize columns of pandas data frame

def normalize(x):
    try:
        x = x/np.linalg.norm(x,ord=1)
        return x
    except :
        raise
data = pd.DataFrame.apply(data,normalize)

From the document of pandas,DataFrame structure can apply an operation (function) to itself .

DataFrame.apply(func, axis=0, broadcast=False, raw=False, reduce=None, args=(), **kwds)

Applies function along input axis of DataFrame. Objects passed to functions are Series objects having index either the DataFrame’s index (axis=0) or the columns (axis=1). Return type depends on whether passed function aggregates, or the reduce argument if the DataFrame is empty.

You can apply a custom function to operate the DataFrame .

Formatting a number with exactly two decimals in JavaScript

Here is my 1-line solution: Number((yourNumericValueHere).toFixed(2));

Here's what happens:

1) First, you apply .toFixed(2) onto the number that you want to round off the decimal places of. Note that this will convert the value to a string from number. So if you are using Typescript, it will throw an error like this:

"Type 'string' is not assignable to type 'number'"

2) To get back the numeric value or to convert the string to numeric value, simply apply the Number() function on that so-called 'string' value.

For clarification, look at the example below:

EXAMPLE: I have an amount that has upto 5 digits in the decimal places and I would like to shorten it to upto 2 decimal places. I do it like so:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var price = 0.26453;_x000D_
var priceRounded = Number((price).toFixed(2));_x000D_
console.log('Original Price: ' + price);_x000D_
console.log('Price Rounded: ' + priceRounded);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

How to format a QString?

You can use QString.arg like this

QString my_formatted_string = QString("%1/%2-%3.txt").arg("~", "Tom", "Jane");
// You get "~/Tom-Jane.txt"

This method is preferred over sprintf because:

Changing the position of the string without having to change the ordering of substitution, e.g.

// To get "~/Jane-Tom.txt"
QString my_formatted_string = QString("%1/%3-%2.txt").arg("~", "Tom", "Jane");

Or, changing the type of the arguments doesn't require changing the format string, e.g.

// To get "~/Tom-1.txt"
QString my_formatted_string = QString("%1/%2-%3.txt").arg("~", "Tom", QString::number(1));

As you can see, the change is minimal. Of course, you generally do not need to care about the type that is passed into QString::arg() since most types are correctly overloaded.

One drawback though: QString::arg() doesn't handle std::string. You will need to call: QString::fromStdString() on your std::string to make it into a QString before passing it to QString::arg(). Try to separate the classes that use QString from the classes that use std::string. Or if you can, switch to QString altogether.

"ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column" when inserting 3

NUMBER (precision, scale) means precision number of total digits, of which scale digits are right of the decimal point.

NUMBER(2,2) in other words means a number with 2 digits, both of which are decimals. You may mean to use NUMBER(4,2) to get 4 digits, of which 2 are decimals. Currently you can just insert values with a zero integer part.

How to display the first few characters of a string in Python?

You can 'slice' a string very easily, just like you'd pull items from a list:

a_string = 'This is a string'

To get the first 4 letters:

first_four_letters = a_string[:4]
>>> 'This'

Or the last 5:

last_five_letters = a_string[-5:]
>>> 'string'

So applying that logic to your problem:

the_string = '416d76b8811b0ddae2fdad8f4721ddbe|d4f656ee006e248f2f3a8a93a8aec5868788b927|12a5f648928f8e0b5376d2cc07de8e4cbf9f7ccbadb97d898373f85f0a75c47f '
first_32_chars = the_string[:32]
>>> 416d76b8811b0ddae2fdad8f4721ddbe

How to list the tables in a SQLite database file that was opened with ATTACH?

The .tables, and .schema "helper" functions don't look into ATTACHed databases: they just query the SQLITE_MASTER table for the "main" database. Consequently, if you used

ATTACH some_file.db AS my_db;

then you need to do

SELECT name FROM my_db.sqlite_master WHERE type='table';

Note that temporary tables don't show up with .tables either: you have to list sqlite_temp_master for that:

SELECT name FROM sqlite_temp_master WHERE type='table';
