What is MATLAB good for? Why is it so used by universities? When is it better than Python?

The most likely reason that it's used so much in universities is that the mathematics faculty are used to it, understand it, and know how to incorporate it into their curriculum.

How to change language of app when user selects language?

Kotlin solution using context extension

fun Context.applyNewLocale(locale: Locale): Context {
    val config = this.resources.configuration
    val sysLocale = if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
        config.locales.get(0)
    } else {
        //Legacy
        config.locale
    }
    if (sysLocale.language != locale.language) {
        Locale.setDefault(locale)
        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.N) {
            config.setLocale(locale)
        } else {
            //Legacy
            config.locale = locale
        }
        resources.updateConfiguration(config, resources.displayMetrics)
    }
    return this
}

Usage

override fun attachBaseContext(newBase: Context?) {
    super.attachBaseContext(newBase?.applyNewLocale(Locale("es", "MX")))
}

Dynamically updating plot in matplotlib

Is there a way in which I can update the plot just by adding more point[s] to it...

There are a number of ways of animating data in matplotlib, depending on the version you have. Have you seen the matplotlib cookbook examples? Also, check out the more modern animation examples in the matplotlib documentation. Finally, the animation API defines a function FuncAnimation which animates a function in time. This function could just be the function you use to acquire your data.

Each method basically sets the data property of the object being drawn, so doesn't require clearing the screen or figure. The data property can simply be extended, so you can keep the previous points and just keep adding to your line (or image or whatever you are drawing).

Given that you say that your data arrival time is uncertain your best bet is probably just to do something like:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy

hl, = plt.plot([], [])

def update_line(hl, new_data):
    hl.set_xdata(numpy.append(hl.get_xdata(), new_data))
    hl.set_ydata(numpy.append(hl.get_ydata(), new_data))
    plt.draw()

Then when you receive data from the serial port just call update_line.

How to append binary data to a buffer in node.js

This is to help anyone who comes here looking for a solution that wants a pure approach. I would recommend understanding this problem because it can happen in lots of different places not just with a JS Buffer object. By understanding why the problem exists and how to solve it you will improve your ability to solve other problems in the future since this one is so fundamental.

For those of us that have to deal with these problems in other languages it is quite natural to devise a solution, but there are people who may not realize how to abstract away the complexities and implement a generally efficient dynamic buffer. The code below may have potential to be optimized further.

I have left the read method unimplemented to keep the example small in size.

The realloc function in C (or any language dealing with intrinsic allocations) does not guarantee that the allocation will be expanded in size with out moving the existing data - although sometimes it is possible. Therefore most applications when needing to store a unknown amount of data will use a method like below and not constantly reallocate, unless the reallocation is very infrequent. This is essentially how most file systems handle writing data to a file. The file system simply allocates another node and keeps all the nodes linked together, and when you read from it the complexity is abstracted away so that the file/buffer appears to be a single contiguous buffer.

For those of you who wish to understand the difficulty in just simply providing a high performance dynamic buffer you only need to view the code below, and also do some research on memory heap algorithms and how the memory heap works for programs.

Most languages will provide a fixed size buffer for performance reasons, and then provide another version that is dynamic in size. Some language systems opt for a third-party system where they keep the core functionality minimal (core distribution) and encourage developers to create libraries to solve additional or higher level problems. This is why you may question why a language does not provide some functionality. This small core functionality allows costs to be reduced in maintaining and enhancing the language, however you end up having to write your own implementations or depending on a third-party.

var Buffer_A1 = function (chunk_size) {
    this.buffer_list = [];
    this.total_size = 0;
    this.cur_size = 0;
    this.cur_buffer = [];
    this.chunk_size = chunk_size || 4096;

    this.buffer_list.push(new Buffer(this.chunk_size));
};

Buffer_A1.prototype.writeByteArrayLimited = function (data, offset, length) {
    var can_write = length > (this.chunk_size - this.cur_size) ? (this.chunk_size - this.cur_size) : length;

    var lastbuf = this.buffer_list.length - 1;

    for (var x = 0; x < can_write; ++x) {
        this.buffer_list[lastbuf][this.cur_size + x] = data[x + offset];
    }

    this.cur_size += can_write;
    this.total_size += can_write;

    if (this.cur_size == this.chunk_size) {
        this.buffer_list.push(new Buffer(this.chunk_size));
        this.cur_size = 0;
    }

    return can_write;
};

    The `data` parameter can be anything that is array like. It just must
    support indexing and a length and produce an acceptable value to be
    used with Buffer.
*/
Buffer_A1.prototype.writeByteArray = function (data, offset, length) {
    offset = offset == undefined ? 0 : offset;
    length = length == undefined ? data.length : length;

    var rem = length;
    while (rem > 0) {
        rem -= this.writeByteArrayLimited(data, length - rem, rem);
    }
};

Buffer_A1.prototype.readByteArray = function (data, offset, length) {
    /*
        If you really wanted to implement some read functionality
        then you would have to deal with unaligned reads which could
        span two buffers.
    */
};

Buffer_A1.prototype.getSingleBuffer = function () {
    var obuf = new Buffer(this.total_size);
    var cur_off = 0;

PHP Get name of current directory

getcwd();

or

dirname(__FILE__);

or (PHP5)

basename(__DIR__)

http://php.net/manual/en/function.getcwd.php

http://php.net/manual/en/function.dirname.php

You can use basename() to get the trailing part of the path :)

In your case, I'd say you are most likely looking to use getcwd(), dirname(__FILE__) is more useful when you have a file that needs to include another library and is included in another library.

Eg:

main.php
libs/common.php
libs/images/editor.php

In your common.php you need to use functions in editor.php, so you use

common.php:

require_once dirname(__FILE__) . '/images/editor.php';

main.php:

require_once libs/common.php

That way when common.php is require'd in main.php, the call of require_once in common.php will correctly includes editor.php in images/editor.php instead of trying to look in current directory where main.php is run.

I have been able to ping from VMs and the host by setting the VM's network settings to "Bridged" mode. This, in short, places them all on the same physical network. This coupled with your static IP addresses should do the trick.

UITableView example for Swift

The example below is an adaptation and simplification of a longer post from We ? Swift. This is what it will look like:

enter image description here

Create a New Project

It can be just the usual Single View Application.

Add the Code

Replace the ViewController.swift code with the following:

import UIKit
class ViewController: UIViewController, UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource {

    // Data model: These strings will be the data for the table view cells
    let animals: [String] = ["Horse", "Cow", "Camel", "Sheep", "Goat"]

    // cell reuse id (cells that scroll out of view can be reused)
    let cellReuseIdentifier = "cell"

    // don't forget to hook this up from the storyboard
    @IBOutlet var tableView: UITableView!

    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()

        // Register the table view cell class and its reuse id
        self.tableView.register(UITableViewCell.self, forCellReuseIdentifier: cellReuseIdentifier)

        // (optional) include this line if you want to remove the extra empty cell divider lines
        // self.tableView.tableFooterView = UIView()

        // This view controller itself will provide the delegate methods and row data for the table view.
        tableView.delegate = self
        tableView.dataSource = self
    }

    // number of rows in table view
    func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, numberOfRowsInSection section: Int) -> Int {
        return self.animals.count
    }

    // create a cell for each table view row
    func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, cellForRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) -> UITableViewCell {

        // create a new cell if needed or reuse an old one
        let cell:UITableViewCell = self.tableView.dequeueReusableCell(withIdentifier: cellReuseIdentifier) as UITableViewCell!

        // set the text from the data model
        cell.textLabel?.text = self.animals[indexPath.row]

        return cell
    }

    // method to run when table view cell is tapped
    func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, didSelectRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) {
        print("You tapped cell number \(indexPath.row).")
    }
}

Read the in-code comments to see what is happening. The highlights are

  • The view controller adopts the UITableViewDelegate and UITableViewDataSource protocols.
  • The numberOfRowsInSection method determines how many rows there will be in the table view.
  • The cellForRowAtIndexPath method sets up each row.
  • The didSelectRowAtIndexPath method is called every time a row is tapped.

Add a Table View to the Storyboard

Drag a UITableView onto your View Controller. Use auto layout to pin the four sides.

enter image description here

Hook up the Outlets

Control drag from the Table View in IB to the tableView outlet in the code.

Finished

That's all. You should be able run your app now.

This answer was tested with Xcode 9 and Swift 4

Variations

Row Deletion

You only have to add a single method to the basic project above if you want to enable users to delete rows. See this basic example to learn how.

enter image description here

Row Spacing

If you would like to have spacing between your rows, see this supplemental example.

enter image description here

Custom cells

The default layout for the table view cells may not be what you need. Check out this example to help get you started making your own custom cells.

enter image description here

Dynamic Cell Height

Sometimes you don't want every cell to be the same height. Starting with iOS 8 it is easy to automatically set the height depending on the cell content. See this example for everything you need to get you started.

How to stash my previous commit?

An alternative solution uses the stash:

Before:

~/dev/gitpro $git stash list

~/dev/gitpro $git log --oneline -3

* 7049dd5 (HEAD -> master) c111
* 3f1fa3d c222
* 0a0f6c4 c333
  1. git reset head~1 <--- head shifted one back to c222; working still contains c111 changes
  2. git stash push -m "commit 111" <--- staging/working (containing c111 changes) stashed; staging/working rolled back to revised head (containing c222 changes)
  3. git reset head~1 <--- head shifted one back to c333; working still contains c222 changes
  4. git stash push -m "commit 222" <--- staging/working (containing c222 changes) stashed; staging/working rolled back to revised head (containing c333 changes)
  5. git stash pop stash@{1} <--- oldest stash entry with c111 changes removed & applied to staging/working
  6. git commit -am "commit 111" <-- new commit with c111's changes becomes new head

note you cannot run 'git stash pop' without specifying the stash@{1} entry. The stash is a LIFO stack -- not FIFO -- so that would incorrectly pop the stash@{0} entry with c222's changes (instead of stash@{1} with c111's changes).

note if there are conflicting chunks between commits 111 and 222, then you'll be forced to resolve them when attempting to pop. (This would be the case if you went with an alternative rebase solution as well.)

After:

~/dev/gitpro $git stash list

stash@{0}: On master: c222

~/dev/gitpro $git log -2 --oneline

* edbd9e8 (HEAD -> master) c111
* 0a0f6c4 c333

How do I upgrade to Python 3.6 with conda?

I found this page with detailed instructions to upgrade Anaconda to a major newer version of Python (from Anaconda 4.0+). First,

conda update conda
conda remove argcomplete conda-manager

I also had to conda remove some packages not on the official list:

  • backports_abc
  • beautiful-soup
  • blaze-core

Depending on packages installed on your system, you may get additional UnsatisfiableError errors - simply add those packages to the remove list. Next, install the version of Python,

conda install python==3.6

which takes a while, after which a message indicated to conda install anaconda-client, so I did

conda install anaconda-client

which said it's already there. Finally, following the directions,

conda update anaconda

I did this in the Windows 10 command prompt, but things should be similar in Mac OS X.

How to fill DataTable with SQL Table

The answers above are correct, but I thought I would expand another answer by offering a way to do the same if you require to pass parameters into the query.

The SqlDataAdapter is quick and simple, but only works if you're filling a table with a static request ie: a simple SELECT without parameters.

Here is my way to do the same, but using a parameter to control the data I require in my table. And I use it to populate a DropDownList.

//populate the Programs dropdownlist according to the student's study year / preference
DropDownList ddlPrograms = (DropDownList)DetailsView1.FindControl("ddlPrograms");
if (ddlPrograms != null)
{
    using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ATCNTV1ConnectionString"].ConnectionString))
    {
        try
        {
            con.Open();
            SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();
            cmd.Connection = con;
            cmd.CommandText = "SELECT ProgramID, ProgramName FROM tblPrograms WHERE ProgramCatID > 0 AND ProgramStatusID = (CASE WHEN @StudyYearID = 'VPR' THEN 10 ELSE 7 END) AND ProgramID NOT IN (23,112,113) ORDER BY ProgramName";
            cmd.Parameters.Add("@StudyYearID", SqlDbType.Char).Value = "11";
            DataTable wsPrograms = new DataTable();
            wsPrograms.Load(cmd.ExecuteReader());

            //populate the Programs ddl list
            ddlPrograms.DataSource = wsPrograms;
            ddlPrograms.DataTextField = "ProgramName";
            ddlPrograms.DataValueField = "ProgramID";
            ddlPrograms.DataBind();
            ddlPrograms.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("<Select Program>", "0"));
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            // Handle the error
        }
    }
}

Does Spring @Transactional attribute work on a private method?

By default the @Transactional attribute works only when calling an annotated method on a reference obtained from applicationContext.

public class Bean {
  public void doStuff() {
    doTransactionStuff();
  }
  @Transactional
  public void doTransactionStuff() {

  }
}

This will open a transaction:

Bean bean = (Bean)appContext.getBean("bean");
bean.doTransactionStuff();

This will not:

Bean bean = (Bean)appContext.getBean("bean");
bean.doStuff();

Spring Reference: Using @Transactional

Note: In proxy mode (which is the default), only 'external' method calls coming in through the proxy will be intercepted. This means that 'self-invocation', i.e. a method within the target object calling some other method of the target object, won't lead to an actual transaction at runtime even if the invoked method is marked with @Transactional!

Consider the use of AspectJ mode (see below) if you expect self-invocations to be wrapped with transactions as well. In this case, there won't be a proxy in the first place; instead, the target class will be 'weaved' (i.e. its byte code will be modified) in order to turn @Transactional into runtime behavior on any kind of method.

Is it a good practice to use try-except-else in Python?

See the following example which illustrate everything about try-except-else-finally:

for i in range(3):
    try:
        y = 1 / i
    except ZeroDivisionError:
        print(f"\ti = {i}")
        print("\tError report: ZeroDivisionError")
    else:
        print(f"\ti = {i}")
        print(f"\tNo error report and y equals {y}")
    finally:
        print("Try block is run.")

Implement it and come by:

    i = 0
    Error report: ZeroDivisionError
Try block is run.
    i = 1
    No error report and y equals 1.0
Try block is run.
    i = 2
    No error report and y equals 0.5
Try block is run.

Proper way to concatenate variable strings

Good question. But I think there is no good answer which fits your criteria. The best I can think of is to use an extra vars file.

And in concat.yml you have your definition:

newvar: "{{ var1 }}-{{ var2 }}-{{ var3 }}"

Best way to get hostname with php

The accepted answer gethostname() may infact give you inaccurate value as in my case

gethostname()         = my-macbook-pro     (incorrect)

The value from gethostname() is obvsiously wrong. Be careful with it.

Host name gives you computer name, not website name, my bad. My result on local machine is

gethostname() = my-macbook-pro (which is my machine name)
$_SERVER['host_name'] = mysite.git (which is my website name)

Insert if not exists Oracle

This is an answer to the comment posted by erikkallen:

You don't need a temp table. If you only have a few rows, (SELECT 1 FROM dual UNION SELECT 2 FROM dual) will do. Why would your example give ORA-0001? Wouldn't merge take the update lock on the index key and not continue until Sess1 has either committed or rolled back? – erikkallen

Well, try it yourself and tell me whether you get the same error or not:

create table t11 (pk int primary key, i int);
insert into t1 values(1, 1);
insert into t11 values(2, 21);
insert into t11 values(3, 31);
commit;

SESS2: insert into t1 values(2, 2);

SESS1:

MERGE INTO t1 d

WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (d.pk, d.i) VALUES (s.pk, s.i);

SESS2: commit;

Finding a branch point with Git?

Returning data from Axios API

The issue is that the original axiosTest() function isn't returning the promise. Here's an extended explanation for clarity:

function axiosTest() {
    // create a promise for the axios request
    const promise = axios.get(url)

    // using .then, create a new promise which extracts the data
    const dataPromise = promise.then((response) => response.data)

    // return it
    return dataPromise
}

// now we can use that data from the outside!
axiosTest()
    .then(data => {
        response.json({ message: 'Request received!', data })
    })
    .catch(err => console.log(err))

The function can be written more succinctly:

function axiosTest() {
    return axios.get(url).then(response => response.data)
}

Or with async/await:

async function axiosTest() {
    const response = await axios.get(url)

Is it possible to use JS to open an HTML select to show its option list?

Unfortunately there's a simple answer to this question, and it's "No"

Embed Google Map code in HTML with marker

USE this , Don't forget to get a google api key from

https://console.developers.google.com/apis/credentials

and replace it

    <div id="map" style="width:100%;height:400px;"></div>

<script>
function myMap() {

var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"), mapOptions);
  var myCenter = new google.maps.LatLng(38.224905, 48.252143);
  var mapCanvas = document.getElementById("map");
  var mapOptions = {center: myCenter, zoom: 16};
  var map = new google.maps.Map(mapCanvas, mapOptions);
  var marker = new google.maps.Marker({position:myCenter});
  marker.setMap(map);
}
</script>

<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YOUR_API_KEY&callback=myMap"></script>

Removing unwanted table cell borders with CSS

Set the cellspacing attribute of the table to 0.

You can also use the CSS style, border-spacing: 0, but only if you don't need to support older versions of IE.

bootstrap 4 file input doesn't show the file name

I have used following for the same:

<script type="application/javascript">
    $('input[type="file"]').change(function(e){
        var fileName = e.target.files[0].name;
        $('.custom-file-label').html(fileName);
    });
</script>

Changing default shell in Linux

Try linux command chsh.

The detailed command is chsh -s /bin/bash. It will prompt you to enter your password. Your default login shell is /bin/bash now. You must log out and log back in to see this change.

The following is quoted from man page:

The chsh command changes the user login shell. This determines the name of the users initial login command. A normal user may only change the login shell for her own account, the superuser may change the login shell for any account

This command will change the default login shell permanently.

Note: If your user account is remote such as on Kerberos authentication (e.g. Enterprise RHEL) then you will not be able to use chsh.

Drawing rotated text on a HTML5 canvas

While this is sort of a follow up to the previous answer, it adds a little (hopefully).

Mainly what I want to clarify is that usually we think of drawing things like draw a rectangle at 10, 3.

So if we think about that like this: move origin to 10, 3, then draw rectangle at 0, 0. Then all we have to do is add a rotate in between.

Another big point is the alignment of the text. It's easiest to draw the text at 0, 0, so using the correct alignment can allow us to do that without measuring the text width.

We should still move the text by an amount to get it centered vertically, and unfortunately canvas does not have great line height support, so that's a guess and check thing ( correct me if there is something better ).

I've created 3 examples that provide a point and a text with 3 alignments, to show what the actual point on the screen is where the font will go.

enter image description here

var font, lineHeight, x, y;

x = 100;
y = 100;
font = 20;
lineHeight = 15; // this is guess and check as far as I know
this.context.font = font + 'px Arial';

// Right Aligned
this.context.save();
this.context.translate(x, y);
this.context.rotate(-Math.PI / 4);

this.context.textAlign = 'right';
this.context.fillText('right', 0, lineHeight / 2);

this.context.restore();

this.context.fillStyle = 'red';
this.context.fillRect(x, y, 2, 2);

// Center
this.context.fillStyle = 'black';
x = 150;
y = 100;

this.context.save();
this.context.translate(x, y);
this.context.rotate(-Math.PI / 4);

this.context.textAlign = 'center';
this.context.fillText('center', 0, lineHeight / 2);

this.context.restore();

this.context.fillStyle = 'red';
this.context.fillRect(x, y, 2, 2);

// Left
this.context.fillStyle = 'black';
x = 200;
y = 100;

this.context.save();
this.context.translate(x, y);
this.context.rotate(-Math.PI / 4);

this.context.textAlign = 'left';
this.context.fillText('left', 0, lineHeight / 2);

this.context.restore();

this.context.fillStyle = 'red';
this.context.fillRect(x, y, 2, 2);

The line this.context.fillText('right', 0, lineHeight / 2); is basically 0, 0, except we move slightly for the text to be centered near the point

JPA: JOIN in JPQL

Join on one-to-many relation in JPQL looks as follows:

select b.fname, b.lname from Users b JOIN b.groups c where c.groupName = :groupName

When several properties are specified in select clause, result is returned as Object[]:

Object[] temp = (Object[]) em.createNamedQuery("...")
    .setParameter("groupName", groupName)
    .getSingleResult();
String fname = (String) temp[0];
String lname = (String) temp[1];

By the way, why your entities are named in plural form, it's confusing. If you want to have table names in plural, you may use @Table to specify the table name for the entity explicitly, so it doesn't interfere with reserved words:

@Entity @Table(name = "Users")
public class User implements Serializable { ... }

How to find the width of a div using vanilla JavaScript?

Actually, you don't have to use document.getElementById("mydiv") .
You can simply use the id of the div, like:

var w = mydiv.clientWidth;
or
var w = mydiv.offsetWidth;
etc.

How to set host_key_checking=false in ansible inventory file?

I could not use:

ansible_ssh_common_args='-o StrictHostKeyChecking=no'

in inventory file. It seems ansible does not consider this option in my case (ansible 2.0.1.0 from pip in ubuntu 14.04)

I decided to use:

server ansible_host=192.168.1.1 ansible_ssh_common_args= '-o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null'

It helped me.

Also you could set this variable in group instead for each host:

[servers_group:vars]
ansible_ssh_common_args='-o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null'

Faking an RS232 Serial Port

I know this is an old post, but in case someone else happens upon this question, one good option is Virtual Serial Port Emulator (VSPE) from Eterlogic It provides an API for creating kernel mode virtual comport devices, i.e. connectors, mappers, splitters etc.
However, some of the advertised capabilities were really not capabilities at all.

EDIT
A much better choice, Eltima. This product is fully baked. Good developer tech support. The product did all it claimed to do. Product options include both desktop applications, as well as software development kits with APIs.

Neither of these products are open source, or free. However, as other posts here have pointed out, there are other options. Here is a list of various serial utilities:

com0com (current)
com0com - With Signed Driver (old version)
Yet another place for com0com with Signed Driver (Pete's Blog)
Tactical Software
Termite
COM Port Serial Emulator
Kermit (obsolete, but still downloadable)

How to git ignore subfolders / subdirectories?

The only way I got this to work on my machine was to do it this way:

# Ignore all directories, and all sub-directories, and it's contents:
*/*

#Now ignore all files in the current directory
#(This fails to ignore files without a ".", for example
#'file.txt' works, but
#'file' doesn't):
/*.*

#Only Include these specific directories and subdirectories:
!wordpress/
!wordpress/*/
!wordpress/*/wp-content/
!wordpress/*/wp-content/themes/

Notice how you have to explicitly allow content for each level you want to include. So if I have subdirectories 5 deep under themes, I still need to spell that out.

This is from @Yarin's comment here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/5250314/1696153

These were useful topics:

I also tried

*
*/*
**/**

and **/wp-content/themes/**

or /wp-content/themes/**/*

None of that worked for me, either. Lots of trail and error!

Getting request payload from POST request in Java servlet

Simple answer:
Use getReader() to read the body of the request

More info:
There are two methods for reading the data in the body:

  1. getReader() returns a BufferedReader that will allow you to read the body of the request.

  2. getInputStream() returns a ServletInputStream if you need to read binary data.

Note from the docs: "[Either method] may be called to read the body, not both."

XDocument or XmlDocument

XDocument is from the LINQ to XML API, and XmlDocument is the standard DOM-style API for XML. If you know DOM well, and don't want to learn LINQ to XML, go with XmlDocument. If you're new to both, check out this page that compares the two, and pick which one you like the looks of better.

I've just started using LINQ to XML, and I love the way you create an XML document using functional construction. It's really nice. DOM is clunky in comparison.

Is there an alternative to string.Replace that is case-insensitive?

Expanding on C. Dragon 76's popular answer by making his code into an extension that overloads the default Replace method.

public static class StringExtensions
{
    public static string Replace(this string str, string oldValue, string newValue, StringComparison comparison)
    {
        StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();

        int previousIndex = 0;
        int index = str.IndexOf(oldValue, comparison);
        while (index != -1)
        {
            sb.Append(str.Substring(previousIndex, index - previousIndex));
            sb.Append(newValue);
            index += oldValue.Length;

            previousIndex = index;
            index = str.IndexOf(oldValue, index, comparison);
        }
        sb.Append(str.Substring(previousIndex));
        return sb.ToString();
     }
}

How to break out of while loop in Python?

What I would do is run the loop until the ans is Q

ans=(R)
while not ans=='Q':
    print('Your score is so far '+str(myScore)+'.')
    print("Would you like to roll or quit?")
    ans=input("Roll...")
    if ans=='R':
        R=random.randint(1, 8)
        print("You rolled a "+str(R)+".")
        myScore=R+myScore

How to tell whether a point is to the right or left side of a line

Assuming the points are (Ax,Ay) (Bx,By) and (Cx,Cy), you need to compute:

(Bx - Ax) * (Cy - Ay) - (By - Ay) * (Cx - Ax)

This will equal zero if the point C is on the line formed by points A and B, and will have a different sign depending on the side. Which side this is depends on the orientation of your (x,y) coordinates, but you can plug test values for A,B and C into this formula to determine whether negative values are to the left or to the right.

Mean of a column in a data frame, given the column's name

I think you're asking how to compute the mean of a variable in a data frame, given the name of the column. There are two typical approaches to doing this, one indexing with [[ and the other indexing with [:

data(iris)
mean(iris[["Petal.Length"]])
# [1] 3.758
mean(iris[,"Petal.Length"])
# [1] 3.758
mean(iris[["Sepal.Width"]])
# [1] 3.057333
mean(iris[,"Sepal.Width"])
# [1] 3.057333

Change line width of lines in matplotlib pyplot legend

@ImportanceOfBeingErnest 's answer is good if you only want to change the linewidth inside the legend box. But I think it is a bit more complex since you have to copy the handles before changing legend linewidth. Besides, it can not change the legend label fontsize. The following two methods can not only change the linewidth but also the legend label text font size in a more concise way.

Method 1

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

# make some data
x = np.linspace(0, 2*np.pi)

y1 = np.sin(x)
y2 = np.cos(x)

# plot sin(x) and cos(x)
fig = plt.figure()
ax  = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax.plot(x, y1, c='b', label='y1')
ax.plot(x, y2, c='r', label='y2')

leg = plt.legend()
# get the individual lines inside legend and set line width
for line in leg.get_lines():
    line.set_linewidth(4)
# get label texts inside legend and set font size
for text in leg.get_texts():
    text.set_fontsize('x-large')

plt.savefig('leg_example')
plt.show()

Method 2

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

# make some data
x = np.linspace(0, 2*np.pi)

y1 = np.sin(x)
y2 = np.cos(x)

# plot sin(x) and cos(x)
fig = plt.figure()
ax  = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax.plot(x, y1, c='b', label='y1')
ax.plot(x, y2, c='r', label='y2')

leg = plt.legend()
# get the lines and texts inside legend box
leg_lines = leg.get_lines()
leg_texts = leg.get_texts()
# bulk-set the properties of all lines and texts
plt.setp(leg_lines, linewidth=4)
plt.setp(leg_texts, fontsize='x-large')
plt.savefig('leg_example')
plt.show()

The above two methods produce the same output image:

SSRS 2008 R2 - SSRS 2012 - ReportViewer: Reports are blank in Safari and Chrome

The solution provided by Emanuele worked for me. I could see the report when I accessed it directly from the server but when I used a ReportViewer control on my aspx page, I was unable to see the report. Upon inspecting the rendered HTML, I found a div by the id "ReportViewerGeneral_ctl09" (ReportViewerGeneral is the server id of the report viewer control) which had it's overflow property set to auto.

<div id="ReportViewerGeneral_ctl09" style="height: 100%; width: 100%; overflow: auto; position: relative; ">...</div>

I used the procedure explained by Emanuele to change this to visible as follows:

function pageLoad() {
    var element = document.getElementById("ReportViewerGeneral_ctl09");

    if (element) {
        element.style.overflow = "visible";
    }
}

In R, how to find the standard error of the mean?

Remembering that the mean can also by obtained using a linear model, regressing the variable against a single intercept, you can use also the lm(x~1) function for this!

Advantages are:

  • You obtain immediately confidence intervals with confint()
  • You can use tests for various hypothesis about the mean, using for example car::linear.hypothesis()
  • You can use more sophisticated estimates of the standard deviation, in case you have some heteroskedasticity, clustered-data, spatial-data etc, see package sandwich
## generate data
x <- rnorm(1000)

## estimate reg
reg <- lm(x~1)
coef(summary(reg))[,"Std. Error"]
#> [1] 0.03237811

## conpare with simple formula
all.equal(sd(x)/sqrt(length(x)),
          coef(summary(reg))[,"Std. Error"])
#> [1] TRUE

## extract confidence interval
confint(reg)
#>                   2.5 %    97.5 %
#> (Intercept) -0.06457031 0.0625035

How to get file URL using Storage facade in laravel 5?

This is how I got it to work - switching between s3 and local directory paths with an environment variable, passing the path to all views.

In .env:

APP_FILESYSTEM=local or s3
S3_BUCKET=BucketID

In config/filesystems.php:

'default' => env('APP_FILESYSTEM'),

In app/Providers/AppServiceProvider:

public function boot()
{
    view()->share('dynamic_storage', $this->storagePath());
}

protected function storagePath()
{
    if (Storage::getDefaultDriver() == 's3') {
        return Storage::getDriver()
                ->getAdapter()
                ->getClient()
                ->getObjectUrl(env('S3_BUCKET'), '');
    }

    return URL::to('/');
}

How to write data with FileOutputStream without losing old data?

Use the constructor for appending material to the file:

FileOutputStream(File file, boolean append)
Creates a file output stream to write to the file represented by the specified File object.

So to append to a file say "abc.txt" use

FileOutputStream fos=new FileOutputStream(new File("abc.txt"),true);

Regular Expression with wildcards to match any character

Without knowing the exact regex implementation you're making use of, I can only give general advice. (The syntax I will be perl as that's what I know, some languages will require tweaking)

Looking at ABC: (z) jan 02 1999 \n

  • The first thing to match is ABC: So using our regex is /ABC:/

  • You say ABC is always at the start of the string so /^ABC/ will ensure that ABC is at the start of the string.

  • You can match spaces with the \s (note the case) directive. With all directives you can match one or more with + (or 0 or more with *)

  • You need to escape the usage of ( and ) as it's a reserved character. so \(\)

  • You can match any non space or newline character with .

  • You can match anything at all with .* but you need to be careful you're not too greedy and capture everything.

So in order to capture what you've asked. I would use /^ABC:\s*\(.+?\)\s*(.+)$/

Which I read as:

Begins with ABC:

May have some spaces

has (

has some characters

has )

may have some spaces

then capture everything until the end of the line (which is $).

I highly recommend keeping a copy of the following laying about http://www.cheatography.com/davechild/cheat-sheets/regular-expressions/

iPhone UILabel text soft shadow

As of 3.2 there is direct support for shadows in the SDK.

label.layer.shadowColor = [label.textColor CGColor];
label.layer.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0.0, 0.0);

#import <QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h> and play with some parameters:

label.layer.shadowRadius = 3.0;
label.layer.shadowOpacity = 0.5;

And, if you find your shadow clipped by the label bounds:

label.layer.masksToBounds = NO;

finally set

label.layer.shouldRasterize = YES;

Difference between uint32 and uint32_t

uint32_t is defined in the standard, in

18.4.1 Header <cstdint> synopsis [cstdint.syn]

namespace std {
//...
typedef unsigned integer type uint32_t; // optional
//...
}

uint32 is not, it's a shortcut provided by some compilers (probably as typedef uint32_t uint32) for ease of use.

HikariCP - connection is not available

From stack trace:

HikariPool: Timeout failure pool HikariPool-0 stats (total=20, active=20, idle=0, waiting=0) Means pool reached maximum connections limit set in configuration.

The next line: HikariPool-0 - Connection is not available, request timed out after 30000ms. Means pool waited 30000ms for free connection but your application not returned any connection meanwhile.

Mostly it is connection leak (connection is not closed after borrowing from pool), set leakDetectionThreshold to the maximum value that you expect SQL query would take to execute.

otherwise, your maximum connections 'at a time' requirement is higher than 20 !

Disable ScrollView Programmatically?

I may be late but still...

This answer is based on removing and adding views dynamically

To disable scrolling:

View child = scoll.getChildAt(0);// since scrollView can only have one direct child
ViewGroup parent = (ViewGroup) scroll.getParent();
scroll.removeView(child); // remove child from scrollview
parent.addView(child,parent.indexOfChild(scroll));// add scroll child at the position of scrollview
parent.removeView(scroll);// remove scrollView from parent

To enable ScrollView just reverse the process

CSS display: inline vs inline-block

Inline elements:

  1. respect left & right margins and padding, but not top & bottom
  2. cannot have a width and height set
  3. allow other elements to sit to their left and right.
  4. see very important side notes on this here.

Block elements:

  1. respect all of those
  2. force a line break after the block element
  3. acquires full-width if width not defined

Inline-block elements:

  1. allow other elements to sit to their left and right
  2. respect top & bottom margins and padding
  3. respect height and width

From W3Schools:

  • An inline element has no line break before or after it, and it tolerates HTML elements next to it.

  • A block element has some whitespace above and below it and does not tolerate any HTML elements next to it.

  • An inline-block element is placed as an inline element (on the same line as adjacent content), but it behaves as a block element.

When you visualize this, it looks like this:

CSS block vs inline vs inline-block

How can I get the sha1 hash of a string in node.js?

Tips to prevent issue (bad hash) :

I experienced that NodeJS is hashing the UTF-8 representation of the string. Other languages (like Python, PHP or PERL...) are hashing the byte string.

We can add binary argument to use the byte string.

const crypto = require("crypto");

function sha1(data) {
    return crypto.createHash("sha1").update(data, "binary").digest("hex");
}

sha1("Your text ;)");

You can try with : "\xac", "\xd1", "\xb9", "\xe2", "\xbb", "\x93", etc...

Other languages (Python, PHP, ...):

sha1("\xac") //39527c59247a39d18ad48b9947ea738396a3bc47

Nodejs:

sha1 = crypto.createHash("sha1").update("\xac", "binary").digest("hex") //39527c59247a39d18ad48b9947ea738396a3bc47
//without:
sha1 = crypto.createHash("sha1").update("\xac").digest("hex") //f50eb35d94f1d75480496e54f4b4a472a9148752

Using "Object.create" instead of "new"

I prefer a closure approach.

I still use new. I don't use Object.create. I don't use this.

I still use new as I like the declarative nature of it.

Consider this for simple inheritance.

Seeing the console's output in Visual Studio 2010?

System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine() will work, but you have to be looking in the right place for the output. In Visual Studio 2010, on the menu bar, click Debug -> Windows -> Output. Now, at the bottom of the screen docked next to your error list, there should be an output tab. Click it and double check it's showing output from the debug stream on the dropdown list.

P.S.: I think the output window shows on a fresh install, but I can't remember. If it doesn't, or if you closed it by accident, follow these instructions.

simple fix, convert to numeric. However, it needs an intermeidate step of converting to character first. Use the following:

family[, 1] <- as.numeric(as.character( family[, 1] ))
family[, 3] <- as.numeric(as.character( family[, 3] ))

For a detailed explanation of why the intermediate as.character step is needed, take a look at this question: How to convert a factor to integer\numeric without loss of information?

MySQL JOIN with LIMIT 1 on joined table

I like more another approach described in a similar question: https://stackoverflow.com/a/11885521/2215679

This approach is better especially in case if you need to show more than one field in SELECT. To avoid Error Code: 1241. Operand should contain 1 column(s) or double sub-select for each column.

For your situation the Query should looks like:

SELECT
 c.id,
 c.title,
 p.id AS product_id,
 p.title AS product_title
FROM categories AS c
JOIN products AS p ON
 p.id = (                                 --- the PRIMARY KEY
  SELECT p1.id FROM products AS p1
  WHERE c.id=p1.category_id
  ORDER BY p1.id LIMIT 1
 )

How to download fetch response in react as file

Browser technology currently doesn't support downloading a file directly from an Ajax request. The work around is to add a hidden form and submit it behind the scenes to get the browser to trigger the Save dialog.

I'm running a standard Flux implementation so I'm not sure what the exact Redux (Reducer) code should be, but the workflow I just created for a file download goes like this...

  1. I have a React component called FileDownload. All this component does is render a hidden form and then, inside componentDidMount, immediately submit the form and call it's onDownloadComplete prop.
  2. I have another React component, we'll call it Widget, with a download button/icon (many actually... one for each item in a table). Widget has corresponding action and store files. Widget imports FileDownload.
  3. Widget has two methods related to the download: handleDownload and handleDownloadComplete.
  4. Widget store has a property called downloadPath. It's set to null by default. When it's value is set to null, there is no file download in progress and the Widget component does not render the FileDownload component.
  5. Clicking the button/icon in Widget calls the handleDownload method which triggers a downloadFile action. The downloadFile action does NOT make an Ajax request. It dispatches a DOWNLOAD_FILE event to the store sending along with it the downloadPath for the file to download. The store saves the downloadPath and emits a change event.
  6. Since there is now a downloadPath, Widget will render FileDownload passing in the necessary props including downloadPath as well as the handleDownloadComplete method as the value for onDownloadComplete.
  7. When FileDownload is rendered and the form is submitted with method="GET" (POST should work too) and action={downloadPath}, the server response will now trigger the browser's Save dialog for the target download file (tested in IE 9/10, latest Firefox and Chrome).
  8. Immediately following the form submit, onDownloadComplete/handleDownloadComplete is called. This triggers another action that dispatches a DOWNLOAD_FILE event. However, this time downloadPath is set to null. The store saves the downloadPath as null and emits a change event.
  9. Since there is no longer a downloadPath the FileDownload component is not rendered in Widget and the world is a happy place.

Running code after Spring Boot starts

I really like the suggestion for usage of the EventListener annotation by @cahen (https://stackoverflow.com/a/44923402/9122660) since it is very clean. Unfortunately I could not get this to work in a Spring + Kotlin setup. What does work for Kotlin is adding the class as a method parameter:

@EventListener
fun doSomethingAfterStartup(event: ApplicationReadyEvent) {
    System.out.println("hello world, I have just started up");
}

What is the advantage of using heredoc in PHP?

The heredoc syntax is much cleaner to me and it is really useful for multi-line strings and avoiding quoting issues. Back in the day I used to use them to construct SQL queries:

$sql = <<<SQL
select *
  from $tablename
 where id in [$order_ids_list]
   and product_name = "widgets"
SQL;

To me this has a lower probability of introducing a syntax error than using quotes:

$sql = "
select *
  from $tablename
 where id in [$order_ids_list]
   and product_name = \"widgets\"
";

Another point is to avoid escaping double quotes in your string:

$x = "The point of the \"argument" was to illustrate the use of here documents";

The problem with the above is the syntax error (the missing escaped quote) I just introduced as opposed to here document syntax:

$x = <<<EOF
The point of the "argument" was to illustrate the use of here documents
EOF;

It is a bit of style, but I use the following as rules for single, double and here documents for defining strings:

  • Single quotes are used when the string is a constant like 'no variables here'
  • Double quotes when I can put the string on a single line and require variable interpolation or an embedded single quote "Today is ${user}'s birthday"
  • Here documents for multi-line strings that require formatting and variable interpolation.

ojdbc14.jar vs. ojdbc6.jar

I have same problem!

Found following in oracle site link text

As mentioned above, the 11.1 drivers by default convert SQL DATE to Timestamp when reading from the database. This always was the right thing to do and the change in 9i was a mistake. The 11.1 drivers have reverted to the correct behavior. Even if you didn't set V8Compatible in your application you shouldn't see any difference in behavior in most cases. You may notice a difference if you use getObject to read a DATE column. The result will be a Timestamp rather than a Date. Since Timestamp is a subclass of Date this generally isn't a problem. Where you might notice a difference is if you relied on the conversion from DATE to Date to truncate the time component or if you do toString on the value. Otherwise the change should be transparent.

If for some reason your app is very sensitive to this change and you simply must have the 9i-10g behavior, there is a connection property you can set. Set mapDateToTimestamp to false and the driver will revert to the default 9i-10g behavior and map DATE to Date.

How to initialize a List<T> to a given size (as opposed to capacity)?

Initializing the contents of a list like that isn't really what lists are for. Lists are designed to hold objects. If you want to map particular numbers to particular objects, consider using a key-value pair structure like a hash table or dictionary instead of a list.

How to create a generic array in Java?

I made this code snippet to reflectively instantiate a class which is passed for a simple automated test utility.

Object attributeValue = null;
try {
    if(clazz.isArray()){
        Class<?> arrayType = clazz.getComponentType();
        attributeValue = Array.newInstance(arrayType, 0);
    }
    else if(!clazz.isInterface()){
        attributeValue = BeanUtils.instantiateClass(clazz);
    }
} catch (Exception e) {
    logger.debug("Cannot instanciate \"{}\"", new Object[]{clazz});
}

Note this segment:

    if(clazz.isArray()){
        Class<?> arrayType = clazz.getComponentType();
        attributeValue = Array.newInstance(arrayType, 0);
    }

for array initiating where Array.newInstance(class of array, size of array). Class can be both primitive (int.class) and object (Integer.class).

BeanUtils is part of Spring.

AngularJS: How to run additional code after AngularJS has rendered a template?

Finally i found the solution, i was using a REST service to update my collection. In order to convert datatable jquery is the follow code:

Combine two arrays

Warning! $array1 + $array2 overwrites keys, so my solution (for multidimensional arrays) is to use array_unique()

array_unique(array_merge($a, $b), SORT_REGULAR);

Notice:

5.2.10+ Changed the default value of sort_flags back to SORT_STRING.

5.2.9 Default is SORT_REGULAR.

5.2.8- Default is SORT_STRING

It perfectly works. Hope it helps same.

How to use adb command to push a file on device without sd card

As there are different paths for different versions. Here is a generic solution:

Find the path...

  1. Enter adb shell in command line.
  2. Then ls and Enter.

Now you'll see the files and directories of Android device. Now with combination of ls and cd dirName find the path to the Internal or External storage.

In the root directory, the directories names will be like mnt, sdcard, emulator0, etc

Example: adb push file.txt mnt/sdcard/myDir/Projects/

Set line height in Html <p> to make the html looks like a office word when <p> has different font sizes

I found that in my code when I used a ration or percentage for line-height line-height;1.5;

My page would scale in such a way that lower case font and upper case font would take up different page heights (I.E. All caps took more room than all lower). Normally I think this looks better, but I had to go to a fixed height line-height:24px; so that I could predict exactly how many pixels each page would take with a given number of lines.

How can I easily add storage to a VirtualBox machine with XP installed?

I found this nugget at the link following. It worked perfect for me and only took 5 seconds.

As of VirtualBox 4 they added support for expansion.

VBoxManage modifyhd filename.vdi --resize 46080

That will resize a virtual disk image to 45GB.

Easy pretty printing of floats in python?

First, elements inside a collection print their repr. you should learn about __repr__ and __str__.

This is the difference between print repr(1.1) and print 1.1. Let's join all those strings instead of the representations:

numbers = [9.0, 0.053, 0.0325754, 0.0108928, 0.0557025, 0.07933]
print "repr:", " ".join(repr(n) for n in numbers)
print "str:", " ".join(str(n) for n in numbers)

C/C++ maximum stack size of program

Stacks for threads are often smaller. You can change the default at link time, or change at run time also. For reference, some defaults are:

  • glibc i386, x86_64: 7.4 MB
  • Tru64 5.1: 5.2 MB
  • Cygwin: 1.8 MB
  • Solaris 7..10: 1 MB
  • MacOS X 10.5: 460 KB
  • AIX 5: 98 KB
  • OpenBSD 4.0: 64 KB
  • HP-UX 11: 16 KB

Why does javascript map function return undefined?

You only return a value if the current element is a string. Perhaps assigning an empty string otherwise will suffice:

var arr = ['a','b',1];
var results = arr.map(function(item){
    return (typeof item ==='string') ? item : '';
});

Of course, if you want to filter any non-string elements, you shouldn't use map(). Rather, you should look into using the filter() function.

substring index range

Like you I didn't find it came naturally. I normally still have to remind myself that

  • the length of the returned string is

    lastIndex - firstIndex

  • that you can use the length of the string as the lastIndex even though there is no character there and trying to reference it would throw an Exception

so

"University".substring(6, 10)

returns the 4-character string "sity" even though there is no character at position 10.

jQuery - Get Width of Element when Not Visible (Display: None)

In addition to the answer posted by Tim Banks, which followed to solving my issue I had to edit one simple thing.

Someone else might have the same issue; I'm working with a Bootstrap dropdown in a dropdown. But the text can be wider as the current content at this point (and there aren't many good ways to resolve that through css).

I used:

$table.css({ position: "absolute", visibility: "hidden", display: "table" });

instead, which sets the container to a table which always scales in width if the contents are wider.

Checking if sys.argv[x] is defined

A solution working with map built-in fonction !

arg_names = ['command' ,'operation', 'parameter']
args = map(None, arg_names, sys.argv)
args = {k:v for (k,v) in args}

Then you just have to call your parameters like this:

if args['operation'] == "division":
    if not args['parameter']:
        ...
    if args['parameter'] == "euclidian":
        ...

  • For 7 days after dateString: dateCalculate(dateString,"yyyy-MM-dd",7);

  • To get 7 days upto dateString: dateCalculate(dateString,"yyyy-MM-dd",-7);

public static String dateCalculate(String dateString, String dateFormat, int days) {
    Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance();
    SimpleDateFormat s = new SimpleDateFormat(dateFormat);
    try {
        cal.setTime(s.parse(dateString));
    } catch (ParseException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
    cal.add(Calendar.DATE, days);
    return s.format(cal.getTime());
}

Create list or arrays in Windows Batch

@echo off
setlocal
set "list=a b c d"
(
 for %%i in (%list%) do (
  echo(%%i
  echo(
 )
)>file.txt

You don't need - actually, can't "declare" variables in batch. Assigning a value to a variable creates it, and assigning an empty string deletes it. Any variable name that doesn't have an assigned value HAS a value of an empty string. ALL variables are strings - WITHOUT exception. There ARE operations that appear to perform (integer) mathematical functions, but they operate by converting back and forth from strings.

Batch is sensitive to spaces in variable names, so your assignment as posted would assign the string "A B C D" - including the quotes, to the variable "list " - NOT including the quotes, but including the space. The syntax set "var=string" is used to assign the value string to var whereas set var=string will do the same thing. Almost. In the first case, any stray trailing spaces after the closing quote are EXCLUDED from the value assigned, in the second, they are INCLUDED. Spaces are a little hard to see when printed.

ECHO echoes strings. Clasically, it is followed by a space - one of the default separators used by batch (the others are TAB, COMMA, SEMICOLON - any of these do just as well BUT TABS often get transformed to a space-squence by text-editors and the others have grown quirks of their own over the years.) Other characters following the O in ECHO have been found to do precisely what the documented SPACE should do. DOT is common. Open-parenthesis ( is probably the most useful since the command

ECHO.%emptyvalue%

will produce a report of the ECHO state (ECHO is on/off) whereas

ECHO(%emptyvalue%

will produce an empty line.

The problem with ECHO( is that the result "looks" unbalanced.

How to get all table names from a database?

public static ArrayList<String> getTablesList(Connection conn)
            throws SQLException {

        ArrayList<String> listofTable = new ArrayList<String>();

        DatabaseMetaData md = conn.getMetaData();

        ResultSet rs = md.getTables(null, null, "%", null);

        while (rs.next()) {
            if (rs.getString(4).equalsIgnoreCase("TABLE")) {
                listofTable.add(rs.getString(3));
            }
        }
        return listofTable;
    }

How to pass parameters to the DbContext.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand method?

The other answers don't work when using Oracle. You need to use : instead of @.

var sql = "Update [User] SET FirstName = :FirstName WHERE Id = :Id";

context.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand(
   sql,
   new OracleParameter(":FirstName", firstName),
   new OracleParameter(":Id", id));

End of File (EOF) in C

That's a lot of questions.

  1. Why EOF is -1: usually -1 in POSIX system calls is returned on error, so i guess the idea is "EOF is kind of error"

  2. any boolean operation (including !=) returns 1 in case it's TRUE, and 0 in case it's FALSE, so getchar() != EOF is 0 when it's FALSE, meaning getchar() returned EOF.

  3. in order to emulate EOF when reading from stdin press Ctrl+D

What's the right way to decode a string that has special HTML entities in it?

This is so good answer. You can use this with angular like this:

 moduleDefinitions.filter('sanitize', ['$sce', function($sce) {
    return function(htmlCode) {
        var txt = document.createElement("textarea");
        txt.innerHTML = htmlCode;
        return $sce.trustAsHtml(txt.value);
    }
}]);

Is there a way to style a TextView to uppercase all of its letters?

I though that was a pretty reasonable request but it looks like you cant do it at this time. What a Total Failure. lol

Update

You can now use textAllCaps to force all caps.

No route matches "/users/sign_out" devise rails 3

I know this is an old question based on Rails 3 but I just ran into and solved it on Rails 4.0.4. So thought I'd pitch in how I fixed it for anyone encountering this problem with this version. Your mileage may vary but here's what worked for me.

First make sure you have the gems installed and run bundle install.

gem 'jquery-rails'

gem 'turbolinks'

gem 'jquery-turbolinks'

In application.js check that everything is required like below.

Beware if this gotcha: it's //= require jquery.turbolinks and not //= require jquery-turbolinks

//= require jquery
//= require jquery_ujs
//= require jquery.turbolinks
//= require turbolinks
//= require_tree .

Next, add the appropriate links in the header of application.html.erb.

<%= javascript_include_tag  "application", "data-turbolinks-track" => true %>
<%= javascript_include_tag :defaults %>

There seems to be many variations on how to implement the delete method which I assume depends on the version of Rails you are using. This is the delete syntax I used.

<p><%= link_to "Sign Out", destroy_user_session_path, :method => 'delete' %></p>

Hope that helps dig someone out of this very frustrating hole!

.m2 , settings.xml in Ubuntu

Quoted from http://maven.apache.org/settings.html:

There are two locations where a settings.xml file may live:

The Maven install: $M2_HOME/conf/settings.xml

A user's install: ${user.home}/.m2/settings.xml

So, usually for a specific user you edit

/home/*username*/.m2/settings.xml

To set environment for all local users, you might think about changing the first path.

Render Content Dynamically from an array map function in React Native

Don't forget to return the mapped array , like:

Button text toggle in jquery

I preffer the following way, it can be used by any button.

JavaScript moving element in the DOM

Sorry for bumping this thread I stumbled over the "swap DOM-elements" problem and played around a bit

The result is a jQuery-native "solution" which seems to be really pretty (unfortunately i don't know whats happening at the jQuery internals when doing this)

The Code:

$('#element1').insertAfter($('#element2'));

The jQuery documentation says that insertAfter() moves the element and doesn't clone it

window.open target _self v window.location.href?

Please use this

window.open("url","_self");

How to create a file in a directory in java?

To create a file and write some string there:

BufferedWriter bufferedWriter = Files.newBufferedWriter(Paths.get("Path to your file"));
bufferedWriter.write("Some string"); // to write some data
// bufferedWriter.write("");         // for empty file
bufferedWriter.close();

This works for Mac and PC.

How to AUTO_INCREMENT in db2?

You're looking for is called an IDENTITY column:

create table student (
   sid integer not null GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY (START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY 1)
  ,sname varchar(30)

);

A sequence is another option for doing this, but you need to determine which one is proper for your particular situation. Read this for more information comparing sequences to identity columns.

How to combine paths in Java?

Rather than keeping everything string-based, you should use a class which is designed to represent a file system path.

If you're using Java 7 or Java 8, you should strongly consider using java.nio.file.Path; Path.resolve can be used to combine one path with another, or with a string. The Paths helper class is useful too. For example:

Path path = Paths.get("foo", "bar", "baz.txt");

If you need to cater for pre-Java-7 environments, you can use java.io.File, like this:

File baseDirectory = new File("foo");
File subDirectory = new File(baseDirectory, "bar");
File fileInDirectory = new File(subDirectory, "baz.txt");

If you want it back as a string later, you can call getPath(). Indeed, if you really wanted to mimic Path.Combine, you could just write something like:

public static String combine(String path1, String path2)
{
    File file1 = new File(path1);
    File file2 = new File(file1, path2);
    return file2.getPath();
}

Instantly detect client disconnection from server socket

This is in VB, but it seems to work well for me. It looks for a 0 byte return like the previous post.

Private Sub RecData(ByVal AR As IAsyncResult)
    Dim Socket As Socket = AR.AsyncState

    If Socket.Connected = False And Socket.Available = False Then
        Debug.Print("Detected Disconnected Socket - " + Socket.RemoteEndPoint.ToString)
        Exit Sub
    End If
    Dim BytesRead As Int32 = Socket.EndReceive(AR)
    If BytesRead = 0 Then
        Debug.Print("Detected Disconnected Socket - Bytes Read = 0 - " + Socket.RemoteEndPoint.ToString)
        UpdateText("Client " + Socket.RemoteEndPoint.ToString + " has disconnected from Server.")
        Socket.Close()
        Exit Sub
    End If
    Dim msg As String = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(ByteData)
    Erase ByteData
    ReDim ByteData(1024)
    ClientSocket.BeginReceive(ByteData, 0, ByteData.Length, SocketFlags.None, New AsyncCallback(AddressOf RecData), ClientSocket)
    UpdateText(msg)
End Sub

How to get an object's methods?

Get the Method Names:

var getMethodNames = function (obj) {
    return (Object.getOwnPropertyNames(obj).filter(function (key) {
        return obj[key] && (typeof obj[key] === "function");
    }));
};

Or, Get the Methods:

var getMethods     = function (obj) {
    return (Object.getOwnPropertyNames(obj).filter(function (key) {
        return obj[key] && (typeof obj[key] === "function");
    })).map(function (key) {
        return obj[key];
    });

Convert JsonNode into POJO

This should do the trick:

mapper.readValue(fileReader, MyClass.class);

I say should because I'm using that with a String, not a BufferedReader but it should still work.

Here's my code:

String inputString = // I grab my string here
MySessionClass sessionObject;
try {
    ObjectMapper objectMapper = new ObjectMapper();
    sessionObject = objectMapper.readValue(inputString, MySessionClass.class);

Here's the official documentation for that call: http://jackson.codehaus.org/1.7.9/javadoc/org/codehaus/jackson/map/ObjectMapper.html#readValue(java.lang.String, java.lang.Class)

You can also define a custom deserializer when you instantiate the ObjectMapper: http://wiki.fasterxml.com/JacksonHowToCustomDeserializers

Edit: I just remembered something else. If your object coming in has more properties than the POJO has and you just want to ignore the extras you'll want to set this:

    objectMapper.configure(DeserializationConfig.Feature.FAIL_ON_UNKNOWN_PROPERTIES, false);

Or you'll get an error that it can't find the property to set into.

Explode string by one or more spaces or tabs

To separate by tabs:

$comp = preg_split("/[\t]/", $var);

To separate by spaces/tabs/newlines:

$comp = preg_split('/\s+/', $var);

To seperate by spaces alone:

$comp = preg_split('/ +/', $var);

How to export data with Oracle SQL Developer?

Sending email from Command-line via outlook without having to click send

You can use cURL and CRON to run .php files at set times.

Here's an example of what cURL needs to run the .php file:

curl http://localhost/myscript.php

Then setup the CRON job to run the above cURL:

nano -w /var/spool/cron/root
or
crontab -e

Followed by:

01 * * * * /usr/bin/curl http://www.yoursite.com/script.php

For more info about, check out this post: https://www.scalescale.com/tips/nginx/execute-php-scripts-automatically-using-cron-curl/

For more info about cURL: What is cURL in PHP?

For more info about CRON: http://code.tutsplus.com/tutorials/scheduling-tasks-with-cron-jobs--net-8800

Also, if you would like to learn about setting up a CRON job on your hosted server, just inquire with your host provider, and they may have a GUI for setting it up in the c-panel (such as http://godaddy.com, or http://1and1.com/ )

NOTE: Technically I believe you can setup a CRON job to run the .php file directly, but I'm not certain.

Best of luck with the automatic PHP running :-)

How do I get the size of a java.sql.ResultSet?

Give column a name..

String query = "SELECT COUNT(*) as count FROM

Reference that column from the ResultSet object into an int and do your logic from there..

PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(query);
statement.setString(1, item.getProductId());
ResultSet resultSet = statement.executeQuery();
while (resultSet.next()) {
    int count = resultSet.getInt("count");
    if (count >= 1) {
        System.out.println("Product ID already exists.");
    } else {
        System.out.println("New Product ID.");
    }
}

Decimal separator comma (',') with numberDecimal inputType in EditText

You can use the following workaround to also include comma as a valid input:-

Through XML:

<EditText
    android:inputType="number"
    android:digits="0123456789.," />

Programmatically:

EditText input = new EditText(THE_CONTEXT);
input.setKeyListener(DigitsKeyListener.getInstance("0123456789.,"));

In this way Android system will show the numbers' keyboard and allow the input of comma. Hope this answers the question :)

How to lose margin/padding in UITextView?

This workaround was written in 2009 when IOS 3.0 was released. It no longer applies.

I ran into the exact same problem, in the end I had to wind up using

nameField.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(-4,-8,0,0);

where nameField is a UITextView. The font I happened to be using was Helvetica 16 point. Its only a custom solution for the particular field size I was drawing. This makes the left offset flush with the left side, and the top offset where I want it for the box its draw in.

In addition, this only seems to apply to UITextViews where you are using the default aligment, ie.

nameField.textAlignment = NSTextAlignmentLeft;

Align to the right for example and the UIEdgeInsetsMake seems to have no impact on the right edge at all.

At very least, using the .contentInset property allows you to place your fields with the "correct" positions, and accommodate the deviations without offsetting your UITextViews.

"Access is denied" JavaScript error when trying to access the document object of a programmatically-created <iframe> (IE-only)

Well yes, the access exception is due to the fact that document.domain must match in your parent and your iframe, and before they do, you won't be able to programmatically set the document.domain property of your iframe.

I think your best option here is to point the page to a template of your own:

iframe.src = '/myiframe.htm#' + document.domain;

And in myiframe.htm:

document.domain = location.hash.substring(1);

Ajax - 500 Internal Server Error

Had the very same problem, then I remembered that for security reasons ASP doesn't expose the entire error or stack trace when accessing your site/service remotely, same as not being able to test a .asmx web service remotely, so I remoted into the sever and monitored my dev tools, and only then did I get the notorious message "Could not load file or assembly 'Newtonsoft.Json, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed' or one of its dep...".

So log on the server and debug from there.

How to configure encoding in Maven?

It seems people mix a content encoding with a built files/resources encoding. Having only maven properties is not enough. Having -Dfile.encoding=UTF8 not effective. To avoid having issues with encoding you should follow the following simple rules

  1. Set maven encoding, as described above:
<project.build.sourceEncoding>UTF-8</project.build.sourceEncoding>
<project.reporting.outputEncoding>UTF-8</project.reporting.outputEncoding>
  1. Always set encoding explicitly, when work with files, strings, IO in your code. If you do not follow this rule, your application depend on the environment. The -Dfile.encoding=UTF8 exactly is responsible for run-time environment configuration, but we should not depend on it. If you have thousands of clients, it takes more effort to configure systems and to find issues because of it. You just have an additional dependency on it which you can avoid by setting it explicitly. Most methods in Java that use a default encoding are marked as deprecated because of it.

  2. Make sure the content, you are working with, also is in the same encoding, that you expect. If it is not, the previous steps do not matter! For instance a file will not be processed correctly, if its encoding is not UTF8 but you expect it. To check file encoding on Linux:

$ file --mime F_PRDAUFT.dsv

  1. Force clients/server set encoding explicitly in requests/responses, here are examples:
@Produces("application/json; charset=UTF-8")
@Consumes("application/json; charset=UTF-8")

Hope this will be useful to someone.

Is it possible to decrypt SHA1

SHA1 is a cryptographic hash function, so the intention of the design was to avoid what you are trying to do.

However, breaking a SHA1 hash is technically possible. You can do so by just trying to guess what was hashed. This brute-force approach is of course not efficient, but that's pretty much the only way.

So to answer your question: yes, it is possible, but you need significant computing power. Some researchers estimate that it costs $70k - $120k.

As far as we can tell today, there is also no other way but to guess the hashed input. This is because operations such as mod eliminate information from your input. Suppose you calculate mod 5 and you get 0. What was the input? Was it 0, 5 or 500? You see, you can't really 'go back' in this case.

How can I find a file/directory that could be anywhere on linux command line?

"Unfortunately this seems to only check the current directory, not the entire folder". Presumably you mean it doesn't look in subdirectories. To fix this, use find -name "filename"

If the file in question is not in the current working directory, you can search your entire machine via

find / -name "filename"

This also works with stuff like find / -name "*.pdf", etc. Sometimes I like to pipe that into a grep statement as well (since, on my machine at least, it highlights the results), so I end up with something like

find / -name "*star*wars*" | grep star

Doing this or a similar method just helps me instantly find the filename and recognize if it is in fact the file I am looking for.

Remove Object from Array using JavaScript

I recommend using lodash.js or sugar.js for common tasks like this:

// lodash.js
someArray = _.reject(someArray, function(el) { return el.Name === "Kristian"; });

// sugar.js
someArray.remove(function(el) { return el.Name === "Kristian"; });

in most projects, having a set of helper methods that is provided by libraries like these is quite useful.

HTML: How to limit file upload to be only images?

You can only do this securely on the server-side. Using the "accept" attribute is good, but must also be validated on the server side lest users be able to cURL to your script without that limitation.

I suggest that you: discard any non-image file, warn the user, and redisplay the form.

SessionTimeout: web.xml vs session.maxInactiveInterval()

Now, i'm being told that this will terminate the session (or is it all sessions?) in the 15th minute of use, regardless their activity.

No, that's not true. The session-timeout configures a per session timeout in case of inactivity.

Are these methods equivalent? Should I favour the web.xml config?

The setting in the web.xml is global, it applies to all sessions of a given context. Programatically, you can change this for a particular session.

Simple InputBox function

The simplest way to get an input box is with the Read-Host cmdlet and -AsSecureString parameter.

$us = Read-Host 'Enter Your User Name:' -AsSecureString
$pw = Read-Host 'Enter Your Password:' -AsSecureString

This is especially useful if you are gathering login info like my example above. If you prefer to keep the variables obfuscated as SecureString objects you can convert the variables on the fly like this:

[Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::PtrToStringAuto([Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::SecureStringToBSTR($us))
[Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::PtrToStringAuto([Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::SecureStringToBSTR($pw))

If the info does not need to be secure at all you can convert it to plain text:

$user = [Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::PtrToStringAuto([Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal]::SecureStringToBSTR($us))

Read-Host and -AsSecureString appear to have been included in all PowerShell versions (1-6) but I do not have PowerShell 1 or 2 to ensure the commands work identically. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/microsoft.powershell.utility/read-host?view=powershell-3.0

JPA CriteriaBuilder - How to use "IN" comparison operator

If I understand well, you want to Join ScheduleRequest with User and apply the in clause to the userName property of the entity User.

I'd need to work a bit on this schema. But you can try with this trick, that is much more readable than the code you posted, and avoids the Join part (because it handles the Join logic outside the Criteria Query).

List<String> myList = new ArrayList<String> ();
for (User u : usersList) {
    myList.add(u.getUsername());
}
Expression<String> exp = scheduleRequest.get("createdBy");
Predicate predicate = exp.in(myList);
criteria.where(predicate);

In order to write more type-safe code you could also use Metamodel by replacing this line:

Expression<String> exp = scheduleRequest.get("createdBy");

with this:

Expression<String> exp = scheduleRequest.get(ScheduleRequest_.createdBy);

If it works, then you may try to add the Join logic into the Criteria Query. But right now I can't test it, so I prefer to see if somebody else wants to try.

Not a perfect answer though may be code snippets might help.

Which Ruby version am I really running?

Run this command:

rvm get stable --auto-dotfiles

and make sure to read all the output. RVM will tell you if something is wrong, which in your case might be because GEM_HOME is set to something different then PATH.

How to force a checkbox and text on the same line?

Another way to do this solely with css:

input[type='checkbox'] {
  float: left;
  width: 20px;
}
input[type='checkbox'] + label {
  display: block;
  width: 30px;
}

Note that this forces each checkbox and its label onto a separate line, rather than only doing so only when there's overflow.

Viewing local storage contents on IE

Since localStorage is a global object, you can add a watch in the dev tools. Just enter the dev tools, goto "watch", click on "Click to add..." and type in "localStorage".

Image overlay on responsive sized images bootstrap

If i understand your question you want to have the overlay just over the image and not cover everything?

I'd set the parent DIV (i renamed in content in the jsfiddle) position to relative, as the overlay should be positioned relative to this div not the window.

.content
{
  position: relative;
}

I did some pocking around and updated your fiddle to just have the overlay sized to the img which (I think) is what you want, let me know anyway :) http://jsfiddle.net/b9Vyw/

Unable to access JSON property with "-" dash

For ansible, and using hyphen, this worked for me:

    - name: free-ud-ssd-space-in-percent
      debug:
        var: clusterInfo.json.content["free-ud-ssd-space-in-percent"]

Bash command line and input limit

There is a buffer limit of something like 1024. The read will simply hang mid paste or input. To solve this use the -e option.

http://linuxcommand.org/lc3_man_pages/readh.html

-e use Readline to obtain the line in an interactive shell

Change your read to read -e and annoying line input hang goes away.

Display the binary representation of a number in C?

Based on dirkgently's answer, but fixing his two bugs, and always printing a fixed number of digits:

void printbits(unsigned char v) {
  int i; // for C89 compatability
  for(i = 7; i >= 0; i--) putchar('0' + ((v >> i) & 1));
}

Set the text in a span

This is because you have wrong selector. According to your markup, .ui-icon and .ui-icon-circle-triangle-w" should point to the same <span> element. So you should use:

$(".ui-icon.ui-icon-circle-triangle-w").html("<<");

or

$(".ui-datepicker-prev .ui-icon").html("<<");

or

$(".ui-datepicker-prev span").html("<<");

Delete all rows in an HTML table

If you have far fewer <th> rows than non-<th> rows, you could collect all the <th> rows into a string, remove the entire table, and then write <table>thstring</table> where the table used to be.

EDIT: Where, obviously, "thstring" is the html for all of the rows of <th>s.

What is a elegant way in Ruby to tell if a variable is a Hash or an Array?

Usually in ruby when you are looking for "type" you are actually wanting the "duck-type" or "does is quack like a duck?". You would see if it responds to a certain method:

@some_var.respond_to?(:each)

You can iterate over @some_var because it responds to :each

If you really want to know the type and if it is Hash or Array then you can do:

["Hash", "Array"].include?(@some_var.class) #=> check both through instance class
@some_var.kind_of?(Hash) #=> to check each at once
@some_var.is_a?(Array)   #=> same as kind_of

What is the difference between static func and class func in Swift?

I did some experiments in playground and got some conclusions.

TL;DR enter image description here

As you can see, in the case of class, the use of class func or static func is just a question of habit.

Playground example with explanation:

class Dog {
    final func identity() -> String {
        return "Once a woofer, forever a woofer!"
    }

    class func talk() -> String {
        return "Woof woof!"
    }

    static func eat() -> String {
        return "Miam miam"
    }

    func sleep() -> String {
        return "Zzz"
    }
}

class Bulldog: Dog {
    // Can not override a final function
//    override final func identity() -> String {
//        return "I'm once a dog but now I'm a cat"
//    }

    // Can not override a "class func", but redeclare is ok
    func talk() -> String {
        return "I'm a bulldog, and I don't woof."
    }

    // Same as "class func"
    func eat() -> String {
        return "I'm a bulldog, and I don't eat."
    }

    // Normal function can be overridden
    override func sleep() -> String {
        return "I'm a bulldog, and I don't sleep."
    }
}

let dog = Dog()
let bullDog = Bulldog()

// FINAL FUNC
//print(Dog.identity()) // compile error
print(dog.identity()) // print "Once a woofer, forever a woofer!"
//print(Bulldog.identity()) // compile error
print(bullDog.identity()) // print "Once a woofer, forever a woofer!"

// => "final func" is just a "normal" one but prevented to be overridden nor redeclared by subclasses.

// CLASS FUNC
print(Dog.talk()) // print "Woof woof!", called directly from class
//print(dog.talk()) // compile error cause "class func" is meant to be called directly from class, not an instance.
print(Bulldog.talk()) // print "Woof woof!" cause it's called from Bulldog class, not bullDog instance.
print(bullDog.talk()) // print "I'm a bulldog, and I don't woof." cause talk() is redeclared and it's called from bullDig instance

// => "class func" is like a "static" one, must be called directly from class or subclassed, can be redeclared but NOT meant to be overridden.

// STATIC FUNC
print(Dog.eat()) // print "Miam miam"
//print(dog.eat()) // compile error cause "static func" is type method
print(Bulldog.eat()) // print "Miam miam"
print(bullDog.eat()) // print "I'm a bulldog, and I don't eat."

// NORMAL FUNC
//print(Dog.sleep()) // compile error
print(dog.sleep()) // print "Zzz"
//print(Bulldog.sleep()) // compile error
print(bullDog.sleep()) // print "I'm a bulldog, and I don't sleep."

Errors in pom.xml with dependencies (Missing artifact...)

It means maven is not able to download artifacts from repository. Following steps will help you:

  1. Go to repository browser and check if artifact exist.
  2. Check settings.xml to see if proper respository is specified.
  3. Check proxy settings.

jQuery 'each' loop with JSON array

Brief code but full-featured

The following is a hybrid jQuery solution that formats each data "record" into an HTML element and uses the data's properties as HTML attribute values.

The jquery each runs the inner loop; I needed the regular JavaScript for on the outer loop to be able to grab the property name (instead of value) for display as the heading. According to taste it can be modified for slightly different behaviour.

This is only 5 main lines of code but wrapped onto multiple lines for display:

$.get("data.php", function(data){

    for (var propTitle in data) {

        $('<div></div>')
            .addClass('heading')
            .insertBefore('#contentHere')
            .text(propTitle);

            $(data[propTitle]).each(function(iRec, oRec) {

                $('<div></div>')
                    .addClass(oRec.textType)
                    .attr('id', 'T'+oRec.textId)
                    .insertBefore('#contentHere')
                    .text(oRec.text);
            });
    }

});

Produces the output

(Note: I modified the JSON data text values by prepending a number to ensure I was displaying the proper records in the proper sequence - while "debugging")

<div class="heading">
    justIn
</div>
<div id="T123" class="Greeting">
    1Hello
</div>
<div id="T514" class="Question">
    1What's up?
</div>
<div id="T122" class="Order">
    1Come over here
</div>
<div class="heading">
    recent
</div>
<div id="T1255" class="Greeting">
    2Hello
</div>
<div id="T6564" class="Question">
    2What's up?
</div>
<div id="T0192" class="Order">
    2Come over here
</div>
<div class="heading">
    old
</div>
<div id="T5213" class="Greeting">
    3Hello
</div>
<div id="T9758" class="Question">
    3What's up?
</div>
<div id="T7655" class="Order">
    3Come over here
</div>
<div id="contentHere"></div>

Apply a style sheet

<style>
.heading { font-size: 24px; text-decoration:underline }
.Greeting { color: green; }
.Question { color: blue; }
.Order { color: red; }
</style>

to get a "beautiful" looking set of data

alt text

More Info
The JSON data was used in the following way:

for each category (key name the array is held under):

  • the key name is used as the section heading (e.g. justIn)

for each object held inside an array:

  • 'text' becomes the content of a div
  • 'textType' becomes the class of the div (hooked into a style sheet)
  • 'textId' becomes the id of the div
  • e.g. <div id="T122" class="Order">Come over here</div>

Install .ipa to iPad with or without iTunes

You can create the ipa for ad hoc distribution and use diawi to create a link for the your ipad. You just upload the .ipa and the provisioning profile, then a link is generated and you can visit it from your ipad in order to install the app (if the provisioning profile is for development you have to add your ipad's UDID to it).

Android ImageButton with a selected state?

This works for me:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <!-- NOTE: order is important (the first matching state(s) is what is rendered) -->
    <item
        android:state_selected="true"
        android:drawable="@drawable/info_icon_solid_with_shadow" />
    <item
        android:drawable="@drawable/info_icon_outline_with_shadow" />
 </selector>

And then in java:

//assign the image in code (or you can do this in your layout xml with the src attribute)
imageButton.setImageDrawable(getBaseContext().getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable....));

//set the click listener
imageButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {

    public void onClick(View button) {
        //Set the button's appearance
        button.setSelected(!button.isSelected());

        if (button.isSelected()) {
            //Handle selected state change
        } else {
            //Handle de-select state change
        }

    }

});

For smooth transition you can also mention animation time:

<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:exitFadeDuration="@android:integer/config_mediumAnimTime">

Cross field validation with Hibernate Validator (JSR 303)

Solution realated with question: How to access a field which is described in annotation property

                    result = firstObj == null && secondObj == null || firstObj != null && firstObj.equals(secondObj);
                    if (!result) {

And how to use it...? Like this:

@EnableMatchConstraint
public class User {

    @NotBlank
    private String password;

    @Match(field = "password")
    private String passwordConfirmation;
}

Defining private module functions in python

embedded with closures or functions is one way. This is common in JS although not required for non-browser platforms or browser workers.

In Python it seems a bit strange, but if something really needs to be hidden than that might be the way. More to the point using the python API and keeping things that require to be hidden in the C (or other language) is probably the best way. Failing that I would go for putting the code inside a function, calling that and having it return the items you want to export.

In Python, how do you convert seconds since epoch to a `datetime` object?

datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp will do, if you know the time zone, you could produce the same output as with time.gmtime

>>> datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp(1284286794)
datetime.datetime(2010, 9, 12, 11, 19, 54)

or

>>> datetime.datetime.utcfromtimestamp(1284286794)
datetime.datetime(2010, 9, 12, 10, 19, 54)

Is there a timeout for idle PostgreSQL connections?

Another option is set this value "tcp_keepalives_idle". Check more in documentation https://www.postgresql.org/docs/10/runtime-config-connection.html.

Phonegap Cordova installation Windows

I faced the same problem and struggled for an hour to get pass through by reading the documents and the other issues reported in Stack Overflow but I didn't find any answer to it. So, here is the guide to successfully run the phonegap/cordova in Windows Machine.

Follow these steps

  1. Download and Install node.js from http://nodejs.org/
  2. Run the command npm install -g phonegap (in case of phonegap installation) or run the command npm install -g cordova (in case of Cordova installation).
  3. As the installation gets completed you can notice this:

    C:\Users\binaryuser\AppData\Roaming\npm\cordova -> C:\Users\binaryuser\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\cordova\bin\cordova
    [email protected] C:\Users\binaryuser\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\cordova
    +-- [email protected]
    +-- [email protected]
    +-- [email protected]
    +-- [email protected]
    +-- [email protected]
    +-- [email protected] ([email protected])
    +-- [email protected] ([email protected])

    +-- [email protected] ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected])
    +-- [email protected] ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected])

  4. Notice the above line you can see the path were the file is mentioned. Copy that path. In my case it is C:\Users\binaryuser\AppData\Roaming\npm\cordova so use cd C:\Users\binaryuser\AppData\Roaming\npm\ and type cordova. There it is, it finally works.

  5. Since the -g key value isn't working you have set the Environment Variables path:
    1. Press Win + Pause|Break or right click on Computer and choose Properties.
    2. Click Advanced system settings on the left.
    3. Click Environment Variables under the Advanced tab.
    4. Select the PATH variable and click Edit.
    5. Copy the path mentioned above to the value field and press OK.

Single controller with multiple GET methods in ASP.NET Web API

Specifying the base path in the [Route] attribute and then adding to the base path in the [HttpGet] worked for me. You can try:

    [Route("api/TestApi")] //this will be the base path
    public class TestController : ApiController
    {
        [HttpGet]  //example call: 'api/TestApi'
        public string Get()
        {
            return string.Empty;
        }

        [HttpGet("{id}")]  //example call: 'api/TestApi/4'
        public string GetById(int id) //method name won't matter
        {
            return string.Empty;
        }

        //....

Took me a while to figure since I didn't want to use [Route] multiple times.

How add items(Text & Value) to ComboBox & read them in SelectedIndexChanged (SelectedValue = null)

This is similar to some of the other answers, but is compact and avoids the conversion to dictionary if you already have a list.

Given a ComboBox "combobox" on a windows form and a class SomeClass with the string type property Name,

List<SomeClass> list = new List<SomeClass>();

combobox.DisplayMember = "Name";
combobox.DataSource = list;

Which means that combobox.SelectedItem is a SomeClass object from list, and each item in combobox will be displayed using its property Name.

You can read the selected item using

SomeClass someClass = (SomeClass)combobox.SelectedItem;
