EC2 instance types's exact network performance?

FWIW CloudFront supports streaming as well. Might be better than plain streaming from instances.

How to keep two folders automatically synchronized?

You need something like this: https://github.com/axkibe/lsyncd It is a tool which combines rsync and inotify - the former is a tool that mirrors, with the correct options set, a directory to the last bit. The latter tells the kernel to notify a program of changes to a directory ot file. It says:

It aggregates and combines events for a few seconds and then spawns one (or more) process(es) to synchronize the changes.

But - according to Digital Ocean at https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-mirror-local-and-remote-directories-on-a-vps-with-lsyncd - it ought to be in the Ubuntu repository!

I have similar requirements, and this tool, which I have yet to try, seems suitable for the task.

Android Studio don't generate R.java for my import project

Get Table and Index storage size in sql server

This query here will list the total size that a table takes up - clustered index, heap and all nonclustered indices:

SELECT
    s.Name AS SchemaName,
    t.NAME AS TableName,
    p.rows AS RowCounts,
    SUM(a.total_pages) * 8 AS TotalSpaceKB,
    SUM(a.used_pages) * 8 AS UsedSpaceKB,
    (SUM(a.total_pages) - SUM(a.used_pages)) * 8 AS UnusedSpaceKB
FROM
    sys.tables t
INNER JOIN
    sys.schemas s ON s.schema_id = t.schema_id
INNER JOIN
    sys.indexes i ON t.OBJECT_ID = i.object_id
INNER JOIN
    sys.partitions p ON i.object_id = p.OBJECT_ID AND i.index_id = p.index_id
INNER JOIN
    sys.allocation_units a ON p.partition_id = a.container_id
WHERE
    t.NAME NOT LIKE 'dt%' -- filter out system tables for diagramming
    AND t.is_ms_shipped = 0
    AND i.OBJECT_ID > 255
GROUP BY
    t.Name, s.Name, p.Rows
ORDER BY
    s.Name, t.Name

If you want to separate table space from index space, you need to use AND i.index_id IN (0,1) for the table space (index_id = 0 is the heap space, index_id = 1 is the size of the clustered index = data pages) and AND i.index_id > 1 for the index-only space

sort json object in javascript

Here is a simple snippet that sorts a javascript representation of a Json.

function isObject(v) {
    return '[object Object]' === Object.prototype.toString.call(v);
};

JSON.sort = function(o) {
if (Array.isArray(o)) {
        return o.sort().map(JSON.sort);
    } else if (isObject(o)) {
        return Object
            .keys(o)
        .sort()
            .reduce(function(a, k) {
                a[k] = JSON.sort(o[k]);

                return a;
            }, {});
    }

    return o;
}

It can be used as follows:

JSON.sort({
    c: {
        c3: null,
        c1: undefined,
        c2: [3, 2, 1, 0],
    },
    a: 0,
    b: 'Fun'
});

That will output:

{
  a: 0,
  b: 'Fun',
  c: {
    c2: [3, 2, 1, 0],
    c3: null
  }
}

How to convert a string into double and vice versa?

For conversion from a number to a string, how about using the new literals syntax (XCode >= 4.4), its a little more compact.

int myInt = (int)round( [@"1.6" floatValue] );

NSString* myString = [@(myInt) description];

(Boxes it up as a NSNumber and converts to a string using the NSObjects' description method)

What are the RGB codes for the Conditional Formatting 'Styles' in Excel?

The easiest way to do this is to format a cell the way you want it, then use the "cell format ..." contextual menu to get to the fill and format colours, use the "more colors ..." button to get to the hexagon colour selector, select the custom tab.

The RGB colours are as in the table at the bottom of the pane. If you prefer HSL values change the color model from RGB to HSL. I have used this to change the saturation on my bad cells. A higher luminosity gives a worse results and the shade of all the cells is the same just the deepness of the colour is modified.

How can I rebuild indexes and update stats in MySQL innoDB?

You can also use the provided CLI tool mysqlcheck to run the optimizations. It's got a ton of switches but at its most basic you just pass in the database, username, and password.

Adding this to cron or the Windows Scheduler can make this an automated process. (MariaDB but basically the same thing.)

Javascript Array.sort implementation?

How to count the number of files in a directory using Python

If you want to count all files in the directory - including files in subdirectories, the most pythonic way is:

import os

file_count = sum(len(files) for _, _, files in os.walk(r'C:\Dropbox'))
print(file_count)

We use sum that is faster than explicitly adding the file counts (timings pending)

How to check task status in Celery?

jquery onclick change css background image

I think this should be:

$('.home').click(function() {
     $(this).css('background', 'url(images/tabs3.png)');
 });

and remove this:

<div class="home" onclick="function()">
     //-----------^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^---------no need for this

You have to make sure you have a correct path to your image.

ImageView - have height match width?

You can't do it with the layout alone, I've tried. I ended up writing a very simple class to handle it, you can check it out on github. SquareImage.java Its part of a larger project but nothing a little copy and paste can't fix (licensed under Apache 2.0)

Essentially you just need to set the height/width equal to the other dimension (depending on which way you want to scale it)

Note: You can make it square without a custom class using the scaleType attribute but the view's bounds extend beyond the visible image, which makes it an issue if you are placing other views near it.

Redirecting to a certain route based on condition

In your app.js file:

      $rootScope.$on('$locationChangeStart', function(event, next, current) {
        if (!$rootScope.loggedUser == null) {
          $state.go('home');
        }
      });
}])

How to get the latest file in a folder?

I would suggest using glob.iglob() instead of the glob.glob(), as it is more efficient.

glob.iglob() Return an iterator which yields the same values as glob() without actually storing them all simultaneously.

Which means glob.iglob() will be more efficient.

I mostly use below code to find the latest file matching to my pattern:

LatestFile = max(glob.iglob(fileNamePattern),key=os.path.getctime)

NOTE: There are variants of max function, In case of finding the latest file we will be using below variant: max(iterable, *[, key, default])

which needs iterable so your first parameter should be iterable. In case of finding max of nums we can use beow variant : max (num1, num2, num3, *args[, key])

Unable to load script.Make sure you are either running a Metro server or that your bundle 'index.android.bundle' is packaged correctly for release

[Quick Answer]

After try to solve this problem in my workspace I found a solution.

This error is because there are a problem with Metro using some combinations of NPM and Node version.

You have 2 alternatives:

  • Alternative 1: Try to update or downgrade npm and node version.
  • Alternative 2: Go to this file: \node_modules\metro-config\src\defaults\blacklist.js and change this code:

    var sharedBlacklist = [
      /node_modules[/\\]react[/\\]dist[/\\].*/,
      /website\/node_modules\/.*/,
      /heapCapture\/bundle\.js/,
      /.*\/__tests__\/.*/
    ];

    and change to this:

    var sharedBlacklist = [
      /node_modules[\/\\]react[\/\\]dist[\/\\].*/,
      /website\/node_modules\/.*/,
      /heapCapture\/bundle\.js/,
      /.*\/__tests__\/.*/
    ];

    Please note that if you run an npm install or a yarn install you need to change the code again.

equivalent to push() or pop() for arrays?

In Java an array has a fixed size (after initialisation), meaning that you can't add or remove items from an array.

int[] i = new int[10];

The above snippet mean that the array of integers has a length of 10. It's not possible add an eleventh integer, without re-assign the reference to a new array, like the following:

int[] i = new int[11];

In Java the package java.util contains all kinds of data structures that can handle adding and removing items from array-like collections. The classic data structure Stack has methods for push and pop.

What is the standard naming convention for html/css ids and classes?

I think it is platform dependent. When developing in .Net MVC, I use bootstrap style lower case and hyphens for class names, but for ids I use PascalCase.

The reasoning for this is that my views are backed by strongly typed view models. Properties of C# models are pascal case. For the sake of model binding with MVC it makes sense that the names of HTML elements that bind to the model are consistent with the view model properties which are pascal case. For simplicity my ids are use the same naming convention as element names except for radio buttons and check boxes which require unique ids for each element in the named input group.

You can also print like this:

Just awk: using printf

bash-3.2$ cat sample.log
something1: +12.0 (some unnecessary trailing data (this must go))
something2: +15.5 (some more unnecessary trailing data)
something4: +9.0 (some other unnecessary data)
something1:    +13.5  (blah blah blah)

bash-3.2$ awk ' { if($2 != "") { if(NR==1) { printf $2 } else { printf "," $2 } } }' sample.log
+12.0,+15.5,+9.0,+13.5

Deciding between HttpClient and WebClient

Perhaps you could think about the problem in a different way. WebClient and HttpClient are essentially different implementations of the same thing. What I recommend is implementing the Dependency Injection pattern with an IoC Container throughout your application. You should construct a client interface with a higher level of abstraction than the low level HTTP transfer. You can write concrete classes that use both WebClient and HttpClient, and then use the IoC container to inject the implementation via config.

What this would allow you to do would be to switch between HttpClient and WebClient easily so that you are able to objectively test in the production environment.

So questions like:

Will HttpClient be a better design choice if we upgrade to .Net 4.5?

Can actually be objectively answered by switching between the two client implementations using the IoC container. Here is an example interface that you might depend on that doesn't include any details about HttpClient or WebClient.

/// Dependency Injection abstraction for rest clients.
/// </summary>

HttpClient Implementation

You can use Task.Run to make WebClient run asynchronously in its implementation.

Dependency Injection, when done well helps alleviate the problem of having to make low level decisions upfront. Ultimately, the only way to know the true answer is try both in a live environment and see which one works the best. It's quite possible that WebClient may work better for some customers, and HttpClient may work better for others. This is why abstraction is important. It means that code can quickly be swapped in, or changed with configuration without changing the fundamental design of the app.

BTW: there are numerous other reasons that you should use an abstraction instead of directly calling one of these low-level APIs. One huge one being unit-testability.

How to .gitignore all files/folder in a folder, but not the folder itself?

You can't commit empty folders in git. If you want it to show up, you need to put something in it, even just an empty file.

For example, add an empty file called .gitkeep to the folder you want to keep, then in your .gitignore file write:

# exclude everything
somefolder/*

# exception to the rule
!somefolder/.gitkeep

Commit your .gitignore and .gitkeep files and this should resolve your issue.

jQuery: How to get the event object in an event handler function without passing it as an argument?

Write your event handler declaration like this:

<a href="#" onclick="myFunc(event,1,2,3)">click</a>

Then your "myFunc()" function can access the event.

The string value of the "onclick" attribute is converted to a function in a way that's almost exactly the same as the browser (internally) calling the Function constructor:

theAnchor.onclick = new Function("event", theOnclickString);

(except in IE). However, because "event" is a global in IE (it's a window attribute), you'll be able to pass it to the function that way in any browser.

Select DISTINCT individual columns in django?

The other answers are fine, but this is a little cleaner, in that it only gives the values like you would get from a DISTINCT query, without any cruft from Django.

>>> set(ProductOrder.objects.values_list('category', flat=True))
{u'category1', u'category2', u'category3', u'category4'}

or

>>> list(set(ProductOrder.objects.values_list('category', flat=True)))
[u'category1', u'category2', u'category3', u'category4']

And, it works without PostgreSQL.

This is less efficient than using a .distinct(), presuming that DISTINCT in your database is faster than a python set, but it's great for noodling around the shell.

Get mouse wheel events in jQuery?

The plugin that @DarinDimitrov posted, jquery-mousewheel, is broken with jQuery 3+. It would be more advisable to use jquery-wheel which works with jQuery 3+.

If you don't want to go the jQuery route, MDN highly cautions using the mousewheel event as it's nonstandard and unsupported in many places. It instead says that you should use the wheel event as you get much more specificity over exactly what the values you're getting mean. It's supported by most major browsers.

How to read user input into a variable in Bash?

Yep, you'll want to do something like this:

Array initialization in Perl

If I understand you, perhaps you don't need an array of zeroes; rather, you need a hash. The hash keys will be the values in the other array and the hash values will be the number of times the value exists in the other array:

use strict;
use warnings;

my @other_array = (0,0,0,1,2,2,3,3,3,4);
my %tallies;
$tallies{$_} ++ for @other_array;

print "$_ => $tallies{$_}\n" for sort {$a <=> $b} keys %tallies;

Output:

0 => 3
1 => 1
2 => 2
3 => 3
4 => 1

To answer your specific question more directly, to create an array populated with a bunch of zeroes, you can use the technique in these two examples:

my @zeroes = (0) x 5;            # (0,0,0,0,0)

my @zeroes = (0) x @other_array; # A zero for each item in @other_array.
                                 # This works because in scalar context
                                 # an array evaluates to its size.

How can I check Drupal log files?

We came across many situation where we need to check error and error logs to figure out issue we are facing we can check by possibly following method:

1.) On blank screen Some time we got nothing but blank screen instead of our site or message written The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later , so we can Print Errors to the Screen by adding

error_reporting(E_ALL);

ini_set('display_errors', TRUE);

ini_set('display_startup_errors', TRUE);

in index.php at top.;

2.) We should enable optional core module for Database Logging at /admin/build/modules, and then we can check logs your_domain_name/admin/reports/dblog

3.) We can use drush command also to check logs drush watchdog-show it will show recent ten message

or if we want to continue showing logs with more information we can user
drush watchdog-show --tail --full.

4.) Also we can enable core Syslog module this module logs events of operating system of any web server.

Android: Scale a Drawable or background image?

This is not the most performant solution, but as somebody suggested instead of background you can create FrameLayout or RelativeLayout and use ImageView as pseudo background - other elements will be position simply above it:

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:layout_width="match_parent">

    <ImageView
        android:id="@+id/ivBackground"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent"
        android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
        android:scaleType="fitStart"
        android:src="@drawable/menu_icon_exit" />

    <Button
        android:id="@+id/bSomeButton"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
        android:layout_marginLeft="61dp"
        android:layout_marginTop="122dp"
        android:text="Button" />

</RelativeLayout>

The problem with ImageView is that only scaleTypes available are: CENTER, CENTER_CROP, CENTER_INSIDE, FIT_CENTER,FIT_END, FIT_START, FIT_XY, MATRIX (http://etcodehome.blogspot.de/2011/05/android-imageview-scaletype-samples.html)

and to "scale the background image (keeping its aspect ratio)" in some cases, when you want an image to fill the whole screen (for example background image) and aspect ratio of the screen is different than image's, the necessary scaleType is kind of TOP_CROP, because:

CENTER_CROP centers the scaled image instead of aligning the top edge to the top edge of the image view and FIT_START fits the screen height and not fill the width. And as user Anke noticed FIT_XY doesn't keep aspect ratio.

Gladly somebody has extended ImageView to support TOP_CROP

public class ImageViewScaleTypeTopCrop extends ImageView {
    public ImageViewScaleTypeTopCrop(Context context) {
        super(context);
        setup();
    }

    public ImageViewScaleTypeTopCrop(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
        super(context, attrs);
        setup();
    }

    public ImageViewScaleTypeTopCrop(Context context, AttributeSet attrs, int defStyle) {
        super(context, attrs, defStyle);
        setup();
    }

    private void setup() {
        setScaleType(ScaleType.MATRIX);
    }

    @Override
    protected boolean setFrame(int frameLeft, int frameTop, int frameRight, int frameBottom) {

        float frameWidth = frameRight - frameLeft;
        float frameHeight = frameBottom - frameTop;

        if (getDrawable() != null) {

            Matrix matrix = getImageMatrix();
            float scaleFactor, scaleFactorWidth, scaleFactorHeight;

            scaleFactorWidth = (float) frameWidth / (float) getDrawable().getIntrinsicWidth();
            scaleFactorHeight = (float) frameHeight / (float) getDrawable().getIntrinsicHeight();

            if (scaleFactorHeight > scaleFactorWidth) {
                scaleFactor = scaleFactorHeight;
            } else {
                scaleFactor = scaleFactorWidth;
            }

            matrix.setScale(scaleFactor, scaleFactor, 0, 0);
            setImageMatrix(matrix);
        }

        return super.setFrame(frameLeft, frameTop, frameRight, frameBottom);
    }

}

Now IMHO would be perfect if somebody wrote custom Drawable which scales image like that. Then it could be used as background parameter.

Reflog suggests to prescale drawable before using it. Here is instruction how to do it: Java (Android): How to scale a drawable without Bitmap? Although it has disadvantage, that upscaled drawable/bitmap will use more RAM, while scaling on the fly used by ImageView doesn't require more memory. Advantage could be less processor load.

Subtract two dates in SQL and get days of the result

How about

How do I install a pip package globally instead of locally?

Maybe --force-reinstall would work, otherwise --ignore-installed should do the trick.

What is the difference between String and string in C#?

string is just an alias for System.String. The compiler will treat them identically.

The only practical difference is the syntax highlighting as you mention, and that you have to write using System if you use String.

sass --watch with automatic minify?

If you're using compass:

-didSelectRowAtIndexPath: not being called

In my case, the problem was declaring the method as a private.

This didn't work:

This worked:

Format datetime in asp.net mvc 4

Ahhhh, now it is clear. You seem to have problems binding back the value. Not with displaying it on the view. Indeed, that's the fault of the default model binder. You could write and use a custom one that will take into consideration the [DisplayFormat] attribute on your model. I have illustrated such a custom model binder here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/7836093/29407

Apparently some problems still persist. Here's my full setup working perfectly fine on both ASP.NET MVC 3 & 4 RC.

Model:

public class MyViewModel
{
    [DisplayName("date of birth")]
    [DataType(DataType.Date)]
    [DisplayFormat(DataFormatString = "{0:dd/MM/yyyy}", ApplyFormatInEditMode = true)]
    public DateTime? Birth { get; set; }
}

Controller:

public class HomeController : Controller
{
    public ActionResult Index()
    {
        return View(new MyViewModel
        {
            Birth = DateTime.Now
        });
    }

    [HttpPost]
    public ActionResult Index(MyViewModel model)
    {
        return View(model);
    }
}

View:

@model MyViewModel

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.LabelFor(x => x.Birth)
    @Html.EditorFor(x => x.Birth)
    @Html.ValidationMessageFor(x => x.Birth)
    <button type="submit">OK</button>
}

Registration of the custom model binder in Application_Start:

ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(DateTime?), new MyDateTimeModelBinder());

And the custom model binder itself:

public class MyDateTimeModelBinder : DefaultModelBinder
{
    public override object BindModel(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext)
    {
        var displayFormat = bindingContext.ModelMetadata.DisplayFormatString;
        var value = bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue(bindingContext.ModelName);

        if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(displayFormat) && value != null)
        {
            DateTime date;
            displayFormat = displayFormat.Replace("{0:", string.Empty).Replace("}", string.Empty);
            // use the format specified in the DisplayFormat attribute to parse the date
            if (DateTime.TryParseExact(value.AttemptedValue, displayFormat, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, DateTimeStyles.None, out date))
            {
                return date;
            }
            else
            {
                bindingContext.ModelState.AddModelError(
                    bindingContext.ModelName,
                    string.Format("{0} is an invalid date format", value.AttemptedValue)
                );
            }
        }

        return base.BindModel(controllerContext, bindingContext);
    }
}

Now, no matter what culture you have setup in your web.config (<globalization> element) or the current thread culture, the custom model binder will use the DisplayFormat attribute's date format when parsing nullable dates.

Match two strings in one line with grep

Let's say we need to find count of multiple words in a file testfile. There are two ways to go about it

1) Use grep command with regex matching pattern

grep -c '\<\(DOG\|CAT\)\>' testfile

2) Use egrep command

egrep -c 'DOG|CAT' testfile

With egrep you need not to worry about expression and just separate words by a pipe separator.

How to check for null in a single statement in scala?

If it instead returned Option[QueueObject] you could use a construct like getObject.foreach { QueueManager.add }. You can wrap it right inline with Option(getObject).foreach ... because Option[QueueObject](null) is None.

What's onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)

If you save the state of the application in a bundle (typically non-persistent, dynamic data in onSaveInstanceState), it can be passed back to onCreate if the activity needs to be recreated (e.g., orientation change) so that you don't lose this prior information. If no data was supplied, savedInstanceState is null.

... you should use the onPause() method to write any persistent data (such as user edits) to storage. In addition, the method onSaveInstanceState(Bundle) is called before placing the activity in such a background state, allowing you to save away any dynamic instance state in your activity into the given Bundle, to be later received in onCreate(Bundle) if the activity needs to be re-created. See the Process Lifecycle section for more information on how the lifecycle of a process is tied to the activities it is hosting. Note that it is important to save persistent data in onPause() instead of onSaveInstanceState(Bundle) because the latter is not part of the lifecycle callbacks, so will not be called in every situation as described in its documentation.

How does Google reCAPTCHA v2 work behind the scenes?

May I present my guess, since this is not a open technology.

Google says it's about combing information from before, during, after to distinguish human from robot. But I am more interested about that final click on the check box.

Say, the POST data (solved CAPTCHA) has a field called fingerprint, a string calculated from user behavior. I think there may be a field about that check box location. I guess this check box is in a coordinate system randomly generated by Google back-end and encrypted by the public key of my site. So, a robot may "guess/calculate" a location about this box, but when site owner makes the GET query with private key to verify user identity, Google will decrypt the coordinate system and say if the user click on the right place. So, only one possible right click(with some offsets, it's a square box) location in this random coordinate system owned by only Google and site owners.

Using GPU from a docker container?

Ok i finally managed to do it without using the --privileged mode.

I'm running on ubuntu server 14.04 and i'm using the latest cuda (6.0.37 for linux 13.04 64 bits).

Preparation

Install nvidia driver and cuda on your host. (it can be a little tricky so i will suggest you follow this guide https://askubuntu.com/questions/451672/installing-and-testing-cuda-in-ubuntu-14-04)

ATTENTION : It's really important that you keep the files you used for the host cuda installation

Get the Docker Daemon to run using lxc

We need to run docker daemon using lxc driver to be able to modify the configuration and give the container access to the device.

One time utilization :

sudo service docker stop
sudo docker -d -e lxc

Permanent configuration Modify your docker configuration file located in /etc/default/docker Change the line DOCKER_OPTS by adding '-e lxc' Here is my line after modification

DOCKER_OPTS="--dns 8.8.8.8 --dns 8.8.4.4 -e lxc"

Then restart the daemon using

sudo service docker restart

How to check if the daemon effectively use lxc driver ?

docker info

The Execution Driver line should look like that :

Execution Driver: lxc-1.0.5

Build your image with the NVIDIA and CUDA driver.

Here is a basic Dockerfile to build a CUDA compatible image.

FROM ubuntu:14.04
MAINTAINER Regan <http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25185405/using-gpu-from-a-docker-container>

RUN apt-get update && apt-get install -y build-essential
RUN apt-get --purge remove -y nvidia*

ADD ./Downloads/nvidia_installers /tmp/nvidia > Get the install files you used to install CUDA and the NVIDIA drivers on your host
RUN /tmp/nvidia/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.62.run -s -N --no-kernel-module   > Install the driver.
RUN rm -rf /tmp/selfgz7 > For some reason the driver installer left temp files when used during a docker build (i don't have any explanation why) and the CUDA installer will fail if there still there so we delete them.
RUN /tmp/nvidia/cuda-linux64-rel-6.0.37-18176142.run -noprompt > CUDA driver installer.
RUN /tmp/nvidia/cuda-samples-linux-6.0.37-18176142.run -noprompt -cudaprefix=/usr/local/cuda-6.0 > CUDA samples comment if you don't want them.
RUN export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/cuda/lib64 > Add CUDA library into your PATH
RUN touch /etc/ld.so.conf.d/cuda.conf > Update the ld.so.conf.d directory
RUN rm -rf /temp/* > Delete installer files.

Run your image.

First you need to identify your the major number associated with your device. Easiest way is to do the following command :

ls -la /dev | grep nvidia

If the result is blank, use launching one of the samples on the host should do the trick. The result should look like that enter image description here As you can see there is a set of 2 numbers between the group and the date. These 2 numbers are called major and minor numbers (wrote in that order) and design a device. We will just use the major numbers for convenience.

Why do we activated lxc driver? To use the lxc conf option that allow us to permit our container to access those devices. The option is : (i recommend using * for the minor number cause it reduce the length of the run command)

--lxc-conf='lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c [major number]:[minor number or *] rwm'

So if i want to launch a container (Supposing your image name is cuda).

docker run -ti --lxc-conf='lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c 195:* rwm' --lxc-conf='lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c 243:* rwm' cuda

can't load package: package .: no buildable Go source files

I had this exact error code and after checking my repository discovered that there were no go files but actually just more directories. So it was more of a red herring than an error for me.

I would recommend doing

go env

and making sure that everything is as it should be, check your environment variables in your OS and check to make sure your shell (bash or w/e ) isn't compromising it via something like a .bash_profile or .bashrc file. good luck.

Simple example for Intent and Bundle

For example :

In MainActivity :

Intent intent = new Intent(this, OtherActivity.class);
intent.putExtra(OtherActivity.KEY_EXTRA, yourDataObject);
startActivity(intent);

In OtherActivity :

public static final String KEY_EXTRA = "com.example.yourapp.KEY_BOOK";

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
  super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

  String yourDataObject = null;

  if (getIntent().hasExtra(KEY_EXTRA)) {
      yourDataObject = getIntent().getStringExtra(KEY_EXTRA);
  } else {
      throw new IllegalArgumentException("Activity cannot find  extras " + KEY_EXTRA);
  }
  // do stuff
}

How to have conditional elements and keep DRY with Facebook React's JSX?

I made https://github.com/ajwhite/render-if recently to safely render elements only if the predicate passes.

{renderIf(1 + 1 === 2)(
  <span>Hello!</span>
)}

or

const ifUniverseIsWorking = renderIf(1 + 1 === 2);

//...

{ifUniverseIsWorking(
  <span>Hello!</span>

How does the "this" keyword work?

Javascript's this

Simple function invocation

Consider the following function:

function foo() {
    console.log("bar");
    console.log(this);
}
foo(); // calling the function

Note that we are running this in the normal mode, i.e. strict mode is not used.

When running in a browser, the value of this would be logged as window. This is because window is the global variable in a web browser's scope.

If you run this same piece of code in an environment like node.js, this would refer to the global variable in your app.

Now if we run this in strict mode by adding the statement "use strict"; to the beginning of the function declaration, this would no longer refer to the global variable in either of the environments. This is done to avoid confusions in strict mode. this would, in this case just log undefined, because that is what it is, it is not defined.

In the following cases, we would see how to manipulate the value of this.

Calling a function on an object

There are different ways to do this. If you have called native methods in Javascript like forEach and slice, you should already know that the this variable in that case refers to the Object on which you called that function (Note that in javascript, just about everything is an Object, including Arrays and Functions). Take the following code for example.

var myObj = {key: "Obj"};
myObj.logThis = function () {
    // I am a method
    console.log(this);
}
myObj.logThis(); // myObj is logged

If an Object contains a property which holds a Function, the property is called a method. This method, when called, will always have it's this variable set to the Object it is associated with. This is true for both strict and non-strict modes.

Note that if a method is stored (or rather, copied) in another variable, the reference to this is no longer preserved in the new variable. For example:

// continuing with the previous code snippet

var myVar = myObj.logThis;
myVar();
// logs either of window/global/undefined based on mode of operation

Considering a more commonly practical scenario:

var el = document.getElementById('idOfEl');
el.addEventListener('click', function() { console.log(this) });
// the function called by addEventListener contains this as the reference to the element
// so clicking on our element would log that element itself

The new keyword

Consider a constructor function in Javascript:

function Person (name) {
    this.name = name;
    this.sayHello = function () {
        console.log ("Hello", this);
    }
}

var awal = new Person("Awal");
awal.sayHello();
// In `awal.sayHello`, `this` contains the reference to the variable `awal`

How does this work? Well, let's see what happens when we use the new keyword.

  1. Calling the function with the new keyword would immediately initialize an Object of type Person.
  2. The constructor of this Object has its constructor set to Person. Also, note that typeof awal would return Object only.
  3. This new Object would be assigned the prototype of Person.prototype. This means that any method or property in the Person prototype would be available to all instances of Person, including awal.
  4. The function Person itself is now invoked; this being a reference to the newly constructed object awal.

Pretty straightforward, eh?

Note that the official ECMAScript spec nowhere states that such types of functions are actual constructor functions. They are just normal functions, and new can be used on any function. It's just that we use them as such, and so we call them as such only.

Calling functions on Functions: call and apply

So yeah, since functions are also Objects (and in-fact first class variables in Javascript), even functions have methods which are... well, functions themselves.

All functions inherit from the global Function, and two of its many methods are call and apply, and both can be used to manipulate the value of this in the function on which they are called.

function foo () { console.log (this, arguments); }
var thisArg = {myObj: "is cool"};
foo.call(thisArg, 1, 2, 3);

This is a typical example of using call. It basically takes the first parameter and sets this in the function foo as a reference to thisArg. All other parameters passed to call is passed to the function foo as arguments.
So the above code will log {myObj: "is cool"}, [1, 2, 3] in the console. Pretty nice way to change the value of this in any function.

apply is almost the same as call accept that it takes only two parameters: thisArg and an array which contains the arguments to be passed to the function. So the above call call can be translated to apply like this:

foo.apply(thisArg, [1,2,3])

Note that call and apply can override the value of this set by dot method invocation we discussed in the second bullet. Simple enough :)

Presenting.... bind!

bind is a brother of call and apply. It is also a method inherited by all functions from the global Function constructor in Javascript. The difference between bind and call/apply is that both call and apply will actually invoke the function. bind, on the other hand, returns a new function with the thisArg and arguments pre-set. Let's take an example to better understand this:

function foo (a, b) {
    console.log (this, arguments);
}
var thisArg = {myObj: "even more cool now"};
var bound = foo.bind(thisArg, 1, 2);
console.log (typeof bound); // logs `function`
console.log (bound);
/* logs `function () { native code }` */

bound(); // calling the function returned by `.bind`
// logs `{myObj: "even more cool now"}, [1, 2]`

See the difference between the three? It is subtle, but they are used differently. Like call and apply, bind will also over-ride the value of this set by dot-method invocation.

Also note that neither of these three functions do any change to the original function. call and apply would return the value from freshly constructed functions while bind will return the freshly constructed function itself, ready to be called.

Extra stuff, copy this

Sometimes, you don't like the fact that this changes with scope, especially nested scope. Take a look at the following example.

var myObj = {
    hello: function () {
        return "world"
        },
    myMethod: function () {
        // copy this, variable names are case-sensitive
        var that = this;
        // callbacks ftw \o/
        foo.bar("args", function () {
            // I want to call `hello` here
            this.hello(); // error
            // but `this` references to `foo` damn!
            // oh wait we have a backup \o/
            that.hello(); // "world"
        });
    }
  };

In the above code, we see that the value of this changed with the nested scope, but we wanted the value of this from the original scope. So we 'copied' this to that and used the copy instead of this. Clever, eh?

Index:

  1. What is held in this by default?
  2. What if we call the function as a method with Object-dot notation?
  3. What if we use the new keyword?
  4. How do we manipulate this with call and apply?
  5. Using bind.
  6. Copying this to solve nested-scope issues.

How can one pull the (private) data of one's own Android app?

Does that mean that one could chmod the directory from world:--x to world:r-x long enough to be able to fetch the files?

Yes, exactly. Weirdly enough, you also need the file to have the x bit set. (at least on Android 2.3)

chmod 755 all the way down worked to copy a file (but you should revert permissions afterwards, if you plan to continue using the device).

Reset git proxy to default configuration

For me, I had to add:

git config --global --unset http.proxy

Basically, you can run:

git config --global -l

to get the list of all proxy defined, and then use "--unset" to disable them

Passing enum or object through an intent (the best solution)

For passing an enum by intent, you can convert enum into integer.

Ex:

public enum Num{A ,B}

Sending(enum to integer):

Num send = Num.A;
intent.putExtra("TEST", send.ordinal());

Receiving(integer to enum):

Num rev;
int temp = intent.getIntExtra("TEST", -1);
if(temp >= 0 && temp < Num.values().length)
    rev = Num.values()[temp];

Best regards. :)

Jquery set radio button checked, using id and class selectors

"...by a class and a div."

I assume when you say "div" you mean "id"? Try this:

$('#test2.test1').prop('checked', true);

No need to muck about with your [attributename=value] style selectors because id has its own format as does class, and they're easily combined although given that id is supposed to be unique it should be enough on its own unless your meaning is "select that element only if it currently has the specified class".

Or more generally to select an input where you want to specify a multiple attribute selector:

$('input:radio[class=test1][id=test2]').prop('checked', true);

That is, list each attribute with its own square brackets.

Note that unless you have a pretty old version of jQuery you should use .prop() rather than .attr() for this purpose.

Remove portion of a string after a certain character

You could do:

$posted = preg_replace('/ By.*/', '', $posted);
echo $posted;

Scroll to element on click in Angular 4

I have done something like what you're asking just by using jQuery to find the element (such as document.getElementById(...)) and using the .focus() call.

What does "dereferencing" a pointer mean?

In simple words, dereferencing means accessing the value from a certain memory location against which that pointer is pointing.

javax.crypto.IllegalBlockSizeException : Input length must be multiple of 16 when decrypting with padded cipher

Well that is Because of

you are only able to encrypt data in blocks of 128 bits or 16 bytes. That's why you are getting that IllegalBlockSizeException exception. and the one way is to encrypt that data Directly into the String.

look this. Try and u will be able to resolve this

public static String decrypt(String encryptedData) throws Exception {

    Key key = generateKey();
    Cipher c = Cipher.getInstance(ALGO);
    c.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, key);
    String decordedValue = new BASE64Decoder().decodeBuffer(encryptedData).toString().trim();
    System.out.println("This is Data to be Decrypted" + decordedValue);
    return decordedValue;
}

hope that will help.

Java 8: Lambda-Streams, Filter by Method with Exception

You must catch the exception before it escapes the lambda:

s = s.filter(a -> {
    try {
        return a.isActive();
    } catch (IOException e) {
        throw new UncheckedIOException(e);
    }
});

Consider the fact that the lambda isn't evaluated at the place you write it, but at some completely unrelated place, within a JDK class. So that would be the point where that checked exception would be thrown, and at that place it isn't declared.

You can deal with it by using a wrapper of your lambda that translates checked exceptions to unchecked ones:

public static <T> T uncheckCall(Callable<T> callable) {
    try {
        return callable.call();
    } catch (RuntimeException e) {
        throw e;
    } catch (Exception e) {
        throw new RuntimeException(e);
    }
}

Your example would be written as

return s.filter(a -> uncheckCall(a::isActive))
        .map(Account::getNumber)
        .collect(toSet());

In my projects I deal with this issue without wrapping; instead I use a method which effectively defuses compiler's checking of exceptions. Needless to say, this should be handled with care and everybody on the project must be aware that a checked exception may appear where it is not declared. This is the plumbing code:

public static <T> T uncheckCall(Callable<T> callable) {
    try {
        return callable.call();
    } catch (Exception e) {
        return sneakyThrow(e);
    }
}

public static void uncheckRun(RunnableExc r) {
    try {
        r.run();
    } catch (Exception e) {
        sneakyThrow(e);
    }
}

public interface RunnableExc {
    void run() throws Exception;
}

@SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
private static <T extends Throwable> void sneakyThrow(Throwable t) throws T {
    throw (T) t;
}

and you can expect to get an IOException thrown in your face, even though collect does not declare it. In most, but not all real-life cases you would want to just rethrow the exception, anyway, and handle it as a generic failure. In all those cases, nothing is lost in clarity or correctness. Just beware of those other cases, where you would actually want to react to the exception on the spot. The developer will not be made aware by the compiler that there is an IOException to catch there and the compiler will in fact complain if you try to catch it because we have fooled it into believing that no such exception can be thrown.

Best way to write to the console in PowerShell

The middle one writes to the pipeline. Write-Host and Out-Host writes to the console. 'echo' is an alias for Write-Output which writes to the pipeline as well. The best way to write to the console would be using the Write-Host cmdlet.

When an object is written to the pipeline it can be consumed by other commands in the chain. For example:

"hello world" | Do-Something

but this won't work since Write-Host writes to the console, not to the pipeline (Do-Something will not get the string):

Write-Host "hello world" | Do-Something

Reporting Services permissions on SQL Server R2 SSRS

This did the trick for me. http://thecodeattic.wordpress.com/category/ssrs/. Go down to step 35 to see the error you are getting. Paraphrasing:

Once you're able to log in to YourServer/Reports as an administrator, click Home in the top-right corner, then Folder Settings and New Role Assignment. Enter your user name and check a box for each role you want to grant yourself. Finally, click OK. You should now be able to browse folders without launching your browser with elevated privileges.

Don't forget to set the security at the site level **AND ** at the folder level. I hope that helps.

Regex doesn't work in String.matches()

[a-z] matches a single char between a and z. So, if your string was just "d", for example, then it would have matched and been printed out.

You need to change your regex to [a-z]+ to match one or more chars.

Mean filter for smoothing images in Matlab

I see good answers have already been given, but I thought it might be nice to just give a way to perform mean filtering in MATLAB using no special functions or toolboxes. This is also very good for understanding exactly how the process works as you are required to explicitly set the convolution kernel. The mean filter kernel is fortunately very easy:

I = imread(...)
kernel = ones(3, 3) / 9; % 3x3 mean kernel
J = conv2(I, kernel, 'same'); % Convolve keeping size of I

Note that for colour images you would have to apply this to each of the channels in the image.

Change Color of Fonts in DIV (CSS)

To do links, you can do

.social h2 a:link {
  color: pink;
  font-size: 14px;
}

You can change the hover, visited, and active link styling too. Just replace "link" with what you want to style. You can learn more at the w3schools page CSS Links.

Using async/await for multiple tasks

Since the API you're calling is async, the Parallel.ForEach version doesn't make much sense. You shouldnt use .Wait in the WaitAll version since that would lose the parallelism Another alternative if the caller is async is using Task.WhenAll after doing Select and ToArray to generate the array of tasks. A second alternative is using Rx 2.0

Why does an image captured using camera intent gets rotated on some devices on Android?

By combining Jason Robinson's answer with Felix's answer and filling the missing parts, here is the final complete solution for this issue that will do the following after testing it on Android Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), Android 4.4 (KitKat) and Android 5.0 (Lollipop).

Steps

  1. Scale down the image if it was bigger than 1024x1024.

  2. Rotate the image to the right orientation only if it was rotate 90, 180 or 270 degree.

  3. Recycle the rotated image for memory purposes.

Here is the code part:

Call the following method with the current Context and the image URI that you want to fix

/**
 * This method is responsible for solving the rotation issue if exist. Also scale the images to
 * 1024x1024 resolution
 *
 * @param context The current context
 * @param selectedImage The Image URI
 * @return Bitmap image results
 * @throws IOException
 */
public static Bitmap handleSamplingAndRotationBitmap(Context context, Uri selectedImage)
        throws IOException {
    int MAX_HEIGHT = 1024;
    int MAX_WIDTH = 1024;

    // First decode with inJustDecodeBounds=true to check dimensions
    final BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
    options.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
    InputStream imageStream = context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(selectedImage);
    BitmapFactory.decodeStream(imageStream, null, options);
    imageStream.close();

    // Calculate inSampleSize
    options.inSampleSize = calculateInSampleSize(options, MAX_WIDTH, MAX_HEIGHT);

    // Decode bitmap with inSampleSize set
    options.inJustDecodeBounds = false;
    imageStream = context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(selectedImage);
    Bitmap img = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(imageStream, null, options);

    img = rotateImageIfRequired(context, img, selectedImage);
    return img;
}

Here is the CalculateInSampleSize method from the pre mentioned source:

/**
  * Calculate an inSampleSize for use in a {@link BitmapFactory.Options} object when decoding
  * bitmaps using the decode* methods from {@link BitmapFactory}. This implementation calculates
  * the closest inSampleSize that will result in the final decoded bitmap having a width and
  * height equal to or larger than the requested width and height. This implementation does not
  * ensure a power of 2 is returned for inSampleSize which can be faster when decoding but
  * results in a larger bitmap which isn't as useful for caching purposes.
  *
  * @param options An options object with out* params already populated (run through a decode*
  *                  method with inJustDecodeBounds==true
  * @param reqWidth The requested width of the resulting bitmap
  * @param reqHeight The requested height of the resulting bitmap
  * @return The value to be used for inSampleSize
  */
private static int calculateInSampleSize(BitmapFactory.Options options,
                                         int reqWidth, int reqHeight) {
    // Raw height and width of image
    final int height = options.outHeight;
    final int width = options.outWidth;
    int inSampleSize = 1;

    if (height > reqHeight || width > reqWidth) {

        // Calculate ratios of height and width to requested height and width
        final int heightRatio = Math.round((float) height / (float) reqHeight);
        final int widthRatio = Math.round((float) width / (float) reqWidth);

        // Choose the smallest ratio as inSampleSize value, this will guarantee a final image
        // with both dimensions larger than or equal to the requested height and width.
        inSampleSize = heightRatio < widthRatio ? heightRatio : widthRatio;

        // This offers some additional logic in case the image has a strange
        // aspect ratio. For example, a panorama may have a much larger
        // width than height. In these cases the total pixels might still
        // end up being too large to fit comfortably in memory, so we should
        // be more aggressive with sample down the image (=larger inSampleSize).

        final float totalPixels = width * height;

        // Anything more than 2x the requested pixels we'll sample down further
        final float totalReqPixelsCap = reqWidth * reqHeight * 2;

        while (totalPixels / (inSampleSize * inSampleSize) > totalReqPixelsCap) {
            inSampleSize++;
        }
    }
    return inSampleSize;
}

Then comes the method that will check the current image orientation to decide the rotation angle

 /**
 * Rotate an image if required.
 *
 * @param img The image bitmap
 * @param selectedImage Image URI
 * @return The resulted Bitmap after manipulation
 */
private static Bitmap rotateImageIfRequired(Context context, Bitmap img, Uri selectedImage) throws IOException {

InputStream input = context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(selectedImage);
ExifInterface ei;
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT > 23)
    ei = new ExifInterface(input);
else
    ei = new ExifInterface(selectedImage.getPath());

    int orientation = ei.getAttributeInt(ExifInterface.TAG_ORIENTATION, ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_NORMAL);

    switch (orientation) {
        case ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_ROTATE_90:
            return rotateImage(img, 90);
        case ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_ROTATE_180:
            return rotateImage(img, 180);
        case ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_ROTATE_270:
            return rotateImage(img, 270);
        default:
            return img;
    }
}

Finally the rotation method itself

private static Bitmap rotateImage(Bitmap img, int degree) {
    Matrix matrix = new Matrix();
    matrix.postRotate(degree);
    Bitmap rotatedImg = Bitmap.createBitmap(img, 0, 0, img.getWidth(), img.getHeight(), matrix, true);
    img.recycle();
    return rotatedImg;
}

Search all the occurrences of a string in the entire project in Android Studio

Android Studio 3.3 seems to have changed the shortcut to search for all references (find in path) on macOS.

In order to do that you should use Ctrl + Shift + F now (instead of Command + Shift + F as wrote on the previous answers):

UPDATE

To replace in path just use Ctrl + Shift + R.

How can I compare a date and a datetime in Python?

Create and similar object for comparison works too ex:

from datetime import datetime, date

now = datetime.now()
today = date.today()

# compare now with today
two_month_earlier = date(now.year, now.month - 2, now.day)
if two_month_earlier > today:
    print(True)

two_month_earlier = datetime(now.year, now.month - 2, now.day)
if two_month_earlier > now:
   print("this will work with datetime too")

Error: "an object reference is required for the non-static field, method or property..."

Simply add static in the declaration of these two methods and the compile time error will disappear!

By default in C# methods are instance methods, and they receive the implicit "self" argument. By making them static, no such argument is needed (nor available), and the method must then of course refrain from accessing any instance (non-static) objects or methods of the class.

More info on static methods
Provided the class and the method's access modifiers (public vs. private) are ok, a static method can then be called from anywhere without having to previously instantiate a instance of the class. In other words static methods are used with the following syntax:

    className.classMethod(arguments)
rather than
    someInstanceVariable.classMethod(arguments)

A classical example of static methods are found in the System.Math class, whereby we can call a bunch of these methods like

   Math.Sqrt(2)
   Math.Cos(Math.PI)

without ever instantiating a "Math" class (in fact I don't even know if such an instance is possible)

PHP write file from input to txt

A possible solution:

<?php
$txt = "data.txt";
if (isset($_POST['field1']) && isset($_POST['field2'])) { // check if both fields are set
    $fh = fopen($txt, 'a');
    $txt=$_POST['field1'].' - '.$_POST['field2'];
    fwrite($fh,$txt); // Write information to the file
    fclose($fh); // Close the file
}
?>

You were closing the script before close de file.

jQuery - Detecting if a file has been selected in the file input

You should be able to attach an event handler to the onchange event of the input and have that call a function to set the text in your span.

<script type="text/javascript">
  $(function() {
     $("input:file").change(function (){
       var fileName = $(this).val();
       $(".filename").html(fileName);
     });
  });
</script>

You may want to add IDs to your input and span so you can select based on those to be specific to the elements you are concerned with and not other file inputs or spans in the DOM.

undefined reference to 'vtable for class' constructor

You're declaring a virtual function and not defining it:

virtual void calculateCredits();

Either define it or declare it as:

virtual void calculateCredits() = 0;

Or simply:

virtual void calculateCredits() { };

Traversing text in Insert mode

You seem to misuse vim, but that's likely due to not being very familiar with it.

The right way is to press Esc, go where you want to do a small correction, fix it, go back and keep editing. It is effective because Vim has much more movements than usual character forward/backward/up/down. After you learn more of them, this will happen to be more productive.

Here's a couple of use-cases:

  • You accidentally typed "accifentally". No problem, the sequence EscFfrdA will correct the mistake and bring you back to where you were editing. The Ff movement will move your cursor backwards to the first encountered "f" character. Compare that with Ctrl+DeldEnd, which does virtually the same in a casual editor, but takes more keystrokes and makes you move your hand out of the alphanumeric area of the keyboard.
  • You accidentally typed "you accidentally typed", but want to correct it to "you intentionally typed". Then Esc2bcw will erase the word you want to fix and bring you to insert mode, so you can immediately retype it. To get back to editing, just press A instead of End, so you don't have to move your hand to reach the End key.
  • You accidentally typed "mouse" instead of "mice". No problem - the good old Ctrl+w will delete the previous word without leaving insert mode. And it happens to be much faster to erase a small word than to fix errors within it. I'm so used to it that I had closed the browser page when I was typing this message...!
  • Repetition count is largely underused. Before making a movement, you can type a number; and the movement will be repeated this number of times. For example, 15h will bring your cursor 15 characters back and 4j will move your cursor 4 lines down. Start using them and you'll get used to it soon. If you made a mistake ten characters back from your cursor, you'll find out that pressing the key 10 times is much slower than the iterative approach to moving the cursor. So you can instead quickly type the keys 12h (as a rough of guess how many characters back that you need to move your cursor), and immediately move forward twice with ll to quickly correct the error.

But, if you still want to do small text traversals without leaving insert mode, follow rson's advice and use Ctrl+O. Taking the first example that I mentioned above, Ctrl+OFf will move you to a previous "f" character and leave you in insert mode.

How to load a jar file at runtime

I was asked to build a java system that will have the ability to load new code while running

You might want to base your system on OSGi (or at least take a lot at it), which was made for exactly this situation.

Messing with classloaders is really tricky business, mostly because of how class visibility works, and you do not want to run into hard-to-debug problems later on. For example, Class.forName(), which is widely used in many libraries does not work too well on a fragmented classloader space.

get the data of uploaded file in javascript

The example below is based on the html5rocks solution. It uses the browser's FileReader() function. Newer browsers only.

See http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/file/dndfiles/#toc-reading-files

In this example, the user selects an HTML file. It uploaded into the <textarea>.

<form enctype="multipart/form-data">
<input id="upload" type=file   accept="text/html" name="files[]" size=30>
</form>

<textarea class="form-control" rows=35 cols=120 id="ms_word_filtered_html"></textarea>

<script>
function handleFileSelect(evt) {
    var files = evt.target.files; // FileList object

    // use the 1st file from the list
    f = files[0];

    var reader = new FileReader();

    // Closure to capture the file information.
    reader.onload = (function(theFile) {
        return function(e) {

          jQuery( '#ms_word_filtered_html' ).val( e.target.result );
        };
      })(f);

      // Read in the image file as a data URL.
      reader.readAsText(f);
  }

  document.getElementById('upload').addEventListener('change', handleFileSelect, false);

Laravel 5 Application Key

From the line

'key' => env('APP_KEY', 'SomeRandomString'),

APP_KEY is a global environment variable that is present inside the .env file.

You can replace the application key if you trigger

php artisan key:generate

command. This will always generate the new key.

The output may be like this:

Application key [Idgz1PE3zO9iNc0E3oeH3CHDPX9MzZe3] set successfully.

Application key [base64:uynE8re8ybt2wabaBjqMwQvLczKlDSQJHCepqxmGffE=] set successfully.

Base64 encoding should be the default in Laravel 5.4

Note that when you first create your Laravel application, key:generate is automatically called.

If you change the key be aware that passwords saved with Hash::make() will no longer be valid.

Java converting int to hex and back again

  • int to Hex :

    Integer.toHexString(intValue);

  • Hex to int :

    Integer.valueOf(hexString, 16).intValue();

You may also want to use long instead of int (if the value does not fit the int bounds):

  • Hex to long:

    Long.valueOf(hexString, 16).longValue()

  • long to Hex

    Long.toHexString(longValue)

I stumbled upon this question, looking for another answer.

I wanted to prevent all children from triggering the parent.

JavaScript:

document.getElementById("parent").addEventListener("click",  function (e) {

});

jQuery:

$("#parent").click(function () {

How to concatenate strings in twig

To mix strings, variables and translations I simply do the following:

    {% set add_link = '
    <a class="btn btn-xs btn-icon-only"
       title="' ~ 'string.to_be_translated'|trans ~ '"
       href="' ~ path('acme_myBundle_link',{'link':link.id})  ~ '">
    </a>
    ' %}

Despite everything being mixed up, it works like a charm.

How do I create and read a value from cookie?

I've used accepted answer of this thread many times already. It's great piece of code: Simple and usable. But I usually use babel and ES6 and modules, so if you are like me, here is code to copy for faster developing with ES6

Accepted answer rewritten as module with ES6:

export const createCookie = ({name, value, days}) => {
  let expires;
  if (days) {
    let date = new Date();
    date.setTime(date.getTime() + (days * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000));
    expires = '; expires=' + date.toGMTString();
  } else {
    expires = '';
  }
  document.cookie = name + '=' + value + expires + '; path=/';
};

export const getCookie = ({name}) => {
  if (document.cookie.length > 0) {
    let c_start = document.cookie.indexOf(name + '=');
    if (c_start !== -1) {
      c_start = c_start + name.length + 1;
      let c_end = document.cookie.indexOf(';', c_start);
      if (c_end === -1) {
        c_end = document.cookie.length;
      }
      return unescape(document.cookie.substring(c_start, c_end));
    }
  }
  return '';
};

And after this you can simply import it as any module (path of course may vary):

import {createCookie, getCookie} from './../helpers/Cookie';

How to get root directory in yii2

If you want to get the root directory of your yii2 project use, assuming that the name of your project is project_app you'll need to use:

echo Yii::getAlias('@app');

on windows you'd see "C:\dir\to\project_app"

on linux you'll get "/var/www/dir/to/your/project_app"

I was formally using:

echo Yii::getAlias('@webroot').'/..';

How does strcmp() work?

Here is the BSD implementation:

int
strcmp(s1, s2)
    register const char *s1, *s2;
{
    while (*s1 == *s2++)
        if (*s1++ == 0)
            return (0);
    return (*(const unsigned char *)s1 - *(const unsigned char *)(s2 - 1));
}

Once there is a mismatch between two characters, it just returns the difference between those two characters.

invalid use of non-static data member

In C++, nested classes are not connected to any instance of the outer class. If you want bar to access non-static members of foo, then bar needs to have access to an instance of foo. Maybe something like:

class bar {
  public:
    int getA(foo & f ) {return foo.a;}
};

Or maybe

class bar {
  private:
    foo & f;

  public:
    bar(foo & g)
    : f(g)
    {
    }

    int getA() { return f.a; }
};

In any case, you need to explicitly make sure you have access to an instance of foo.

How can I time a code segment for testing performance with Pythons timeit?

Quite apart from the timing, this code you show is simply incorrect: you execute 100 connections (completely ignoring all but the last one), and then when you do the first execute call you pass it a local variable query_stmt which you only initialize after the execute call.

First, make your code correct, without worrying about timing yet: i.e. a function that makes or receives a connection and performs 100 or 500 or whatever number of updates on that connection, then closes the connection. Once you have your code working correctly is the correct point at which to think about using timeit on it!

Specifically, if the function you want to time is a parameter-less one called foobar you can use timeit.timeit (2.6 or later -- it's more complicated in 2.5 and before):

timeit.timeit('foobar()', number=1000)

You'd better specify the number of runs because the default, a million, may be high for your use case (leading to spending a lot of time in this code;-).

Angular CLI SASS options

I tried to update my project to use the sass using this command

ng set defaults.styleExt scss

but got this

get/set have been deprecated in favor of the config command.

  • Angular CLI: 6.0.7
  • Node: 8.9.0
  • OS: linux x64
  • Angular: 6.0.3

So I deleted my project (as I was just getting started and had no code in my project) and created a new one with sass initially set

ng new my-sassy-app --style=scss

But I would appreciate if someone can share a way to update the existing project as that would be nice.

filemtime "warning stat failed for"

For me the filename involved was appended with a querystring, which this function didn't like.

$path = 'path/to/my/file.js?v=2'

Solution was to chop that off first:

$path = preg_replace('/\?v=[\d]+$/', '', $path);
$fileTime = filemtime($path);

Hash table in JavaScript

The Javascript interpreter natively stores objects in a hash table. If you're worried about contamination from the prototype chain, you can always do something like this:

// Simple ECMA5 hash table
Hash = function(oSource){
  for(sKey in oSource) if(Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(oSource, sKey)) this[sKey] = oSource[sKey];
};
Hash.prototype = Object.create(null);

var oHash = new Hash({foo: 'bar'});
oHash.foo === 'bar'; // true
oHash['foo'] === 'bar'; // true
oHash['meow'] = 'another prop'; // true
oHash.hasOwnProperty === undefined; // true
Object.keys(oHash); // ['foo', 'meow']
oHash instanceof Hash; // true

If you are using Bootstrap 4, you can simple use a color utility class (e.g. text-success, text-danger, etc... ).

You can also create your own classes (e.g. text-my-own-color)

Both options are shown in the example below, run the code snippet to see a live demo.

Counting inversions in an array

Best optimized way will be to solve it through merge sort where will merging itself we can check how many inversions are required by comparing left and right array. Whenever element at left array is greater than element at right array, it will be inversion.

Merge sort Approach :-

Here is the code . Code is exact same as merge sort except code snippet under mergeToParent method where i am counting the inversion under else condition of (left[leftunPicked] < right[rightunPicked])

public class TestInversionThruMergeSort {

    static int count =0;

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        int[] arr = {6, 9, 1, 14, 8, 12, 3, 2};

        partition(arr);

        for (int i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {

            System.out.println(arr[i]);
        }

        System.out.println("inversions are "+count);

    }

    public static void partition(int[] arr) {

        if (arr.length > 1) {

            int mid = (arr.length) / 2;
            int[] left = null;

            if (mid > 0) {
                left = new int[mid];

                for (int i = 0; i < mid; i++) {
                    left[i] = arr[i];
                }
            }

            int[] right = new int[arr.length - left.length];

            if ((arr.length - left.length) > 0) {
                int j = 0;
                for (int i = mid; i < arr.length; i++) {
                    right[j] = arr[i];
                    ++j;
                }
            }

            partition(left);
            partition(right);
            mergeToParent(left, right, arr);
        }

    }

    public static void mergeToParent(int[] left, int[] right, int[] parent) {

        int leftunPicked = 0;
        int rightunPicked = 0;
        int parentIndex = -1;

        while (rightunPicked < right.length && leftunPicked < left.length) {

            if (left[leftunPicked] < right[rightunPicked]) {
                parent[++parentIndex] = left[leftunPicked];
                ++leftunPicked;

            } else {
                count = count + left.length-leftunPicked;
                if ((rightunPicked < right.length)) {
                    parent[++parentIndex] = right[rightunPicked];
                    ++rightunPicked;
                }
            }

        }

        while (leftunPicked < left.length) {
            parent[++parentIndex] = left[leftunPicked];
            ++leftunPicked;
        }

        while (rightunPicked < right.length) {
            parent[++parentIndex] = right[rightunPicked];
            ++rightunPicked;
        }

    }

}

Another approach where we can compare the input array with sorted array:- This implementation of Diablo answer. Though this should not be preferred approach as removing the n elements from an array or list is log(n^2).

        List<Integer> arr = new ArrayList(Arrays.asList(arr1));
        List<Integer> sortArr = new ArrayList<Integer>();

        for(int i=0;i<arr.size();i++){
            sortArr.add(arr.get(i));

        }

        Collections.sort(sortArr);

        int inversion = 0;

        Iterator<Integer> iter = arr.iterator();

        while(iter.hasNext()){

            Integer el = (Integer)iter.next();
            int index = sortArr.indexOf(el);

            if(index+1 > 1){
                inversion = inversion + ((index+1)-1);
            }

            //iter.remove();
            sortArr.remove(el);

        }

        System.out.println("Inversions are "+inversion);

"A lambda expression with a statement body cannot be converted to an expression tree"

Is objects a Linq-To-SQL database context? In which case, you can only use simple expressions to the right of the => operator. The reason is, these expressions are not executed, but are converted to SQL to be executed against the database. Try this

Arr[] myArray = objects.Select(o => new Obj() {
    Var1 = o.someVar,
    Var2 = o.var2
}).ToArray();

Assuming you apply this css after the reset, it should work !

Using Chrome's Element Inspector in Print Preview Mode?

As of Chrome 48 (and perhaps a few versions earlier), the function seems to have moved yet again:

The first few steps are unchanged:

  2. Press ESC to open the console

According to the previous answers, the setting could then be found under the "Emulation" tab. As shown in the images below, it has now been moved to the "Rendering" tab, which can be brought up by clicking on the three dots to the left of the "Console" tab.

Counting Line Numbers in Eclipse

Are you interested in counting the executable lines rather than the total file line count? If so you could try a code coverage tool such as EclEmma. As a side effect of the code coverage stats you get stats on the number of executable lines and blocks (and methods and classes). These are rolled up from the method level upwards, so you can see line counts for the packages, source roots and projects as well.

Plotting time in Python with Matplotlib

I had trouble with this using matplotlib version: 2.0.2. Running the example from above I got a centered stacked set of bubbles.

graph with centered stack of bubbles

I "fixed" the problem by adding another line:

plt.plot([],[])

The entire code snippet becomes:

import datetime
import random
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.dates as mdates

# make up some data
x = [datetime.datetime.now() + datetime.timedelta(minutes=i) for i in range(12)]
y = [i+random.gauss(0,1) for i,_ in enumerate(x)]

# plot
plt.plot([],[])
plt.scatter(x,y)

# beautify the x-labels
plt.gcf().autofmt_xdate()
myFmt = mdates.DateFormatter('%H:%M')
plt.gca().xaxis.set_major_formatter(myFmt)

plt.show()
plt.close()

This produces an image with the bubbles distributed as desired.

How do I keep track of pip-installed packages in an Anaconda (Conda) environment?

My which pip shows the following path:

$ which pip
/home/kmario23/anaconda3/bin/pip

So, whatever package I install using pip install <package-name> will have to be reflected in the list of packages when the list is exported using:

$ conda list --export > conda_list.txt

But, I don't. So, instead I used the following command as suggested by several others:

# get environment name by
$ conda-env list

# get list of all installed packages by (conda, pip, etc.,)
$ conda-env export -n <my-environment-name> > all_packages.yml
# if you haven't created any specific env, then just use 'root'

Now, I can see all the packages in my all-packages.yml file.

Error: EPERM: operation not permitted, unlink 'D:\Sources\**\node_modules\fsevents\node_modules\abbrev\package.json'

My problem was executing the command (npm audit fix all). I solved it when closing VSCODE and re-executed the command without problems.

Transpose a range in VBA

This gets you X and X' as variant arrays you can pass to another function.

Dim X() As Variant
Dim XT() As Variant
X = ActiveSheet.Range("InRng").Value2
XT = Application.Transpose(X)

To have the transposed values as a range, you have to pass it via a worksheet as in this answer. Without seeing how your covariance function works it's hard to see what you need.

Url to a google maps page to show a pin given a latitude / longitude?

Which parses like this:

    q=latN+lonW+(label)     location of teardrop

    t=k             keyhole (satelite map)
    t=h             hybrid

    ll=lat,-lon     center of map

SELECT INTO using Oracle

If NEW_TABLE already exists then ...

insert into new_table
select * from old_table
/

If you want to create NEW_TABLE based on the records in OLD_TABLE ...

create table new_table as
select * from old_table
/

If the purpose is to create a new but empty table then use a WHERE clause with a condition which can never be true:

create table new_table as
select * from old_table
where 1 = 2
/

Remember that CREATE TABLE ... AS SELECT creates only a table with the same projection as the source table. The new table does not have any constraints, triggers or indexes which the original table might have. Those still have to be added manually (if they are required).

How to get distinct values from an array of objects in JavaScript?

If you're stuck using ES5, or you can't use new Set or new Map for some reason, and you need an array containing values with a unique key (and not just an array of unique keys), you can use the following:

function distinctBy(key, array) {
    var keys = array.map(function (value) { return value[key]; });
    return array.filter(function (value, index) { return keys.indexOf(value[key]) === index; });
}

Or the type-safe equivalent in TypeScript:

public distinctBy<T>(key: keyof T, array: T[]) {
    const keys = array.map(value => value[key]);
    return array.filter((value, index) => keys.indexOf(value[key]) === index);
}

Usage:

var distinctPeople = distinctBy('age', people);

All of the other answers either:

  • Return an array of unique keys instead of objects (like returning the list of ages instead of the people who have an unique age);
  • Use ES6, new Set, new Map etc. which might not be available to you;
  • Do not have a configurable key (like having .age hardcoded into the distinct function);
  • Assume the key can be used to index an array, which is not always true and TypeScript wouldn't allow it.

This answers does not have any of the four issues above.

Regular Expression usage with ls

You don't say what shell you are using, but they generally don't support regular expressions that way, although there are common *nix CLI tools (grep, sed, etc) that do.

What shells like bash do support is globbing, which uses some similiar characters (eg, *) but is not the same thing.

Newer versions of bash do have a regular expression operator, =~:

for x in `ls`; do
    if [[ $x =~ .+\..* ]]; then
        echo $x;
    fi;
done

How can I open the interactive matplotlib window in IPython notebook?

According to the documentation, you should be able to switch back and forth like this:

In [2]: %matplotlib inline
In [3]: plot(...)

In [4]: %matplotlib qt # wx, gtk, osx, tk, empty uses default
In [5]: plot(...)

and that will pop up a regular plot window (a restart on the notebook may be necessary).

I hope this helps.

Get the first N elements of an array?

Use array_slice()

This is an example from the PHP manual: array_slice

$input = array("a", "b", "c", "d", "e");
$output = array_slice($input, 0, 3);   // returns "a", "b", and "c"

There is only a small issue

If the array indices are meaningful to you, remember that array_slice will reset and reorder the numeric array indices. You need the preserve_keys flag set to trueto avoid this. (4th parameter, available since 5.0.2).

Example:

$output = array_slice($input, 2, 3, true);

Output:

array([3]=>'c', [4]=>'d', [5]=>'e');

How to convert OutputStream to InputStream?

From my point of view, java.io.PipedInputStream/java.io.PipedOutputStream is the best option to considere. In some situations you may want to use ByteArrayInputStream/ByteArrayOutputStream. The problem is that you need to duplicate the buffer to convert a ByteArrayOutputStream to a ByteArrayInputStream. Also ByteArrayOutpuStream/ByteArrayInputStream are limited to 2GB. Here is an OutpuStream/InputStream implementation I wrote to bypass ByteArrayOutputStream/ByteArrayInputStream limitations (Scala code, but easily understandable for java developpers):

import java.io.{IOException, InputStream, OutputStream}

import scala.annotation.tailrec

/** Acts as a replacement for ByteArrayOutputStream

Python in Xcode 4+?

I figured it out! The steps make it look like it will take more effort than it actually does.

These instructions are for creating a project from scratch. If you have existing Python scripts that you wish to include in this project, you will obviously need to slightly deviate from these instructions.

If you find that these instructions no longer work or are unclear due to changes in Xcode updates, please let me know. I will make the necessary corrections.

  1. Open Xcode. The instructions for either are the same.
  2. In the menu bar, click “File” ? “New” ? “New Project…”.
  3. Select “Other” in the left pane, then "External Build System" in the right page, and next click "Next".
  4. Enter the product name, organization name, or organization identifier.
  5. For the “Build Tool” field, type in /usr/local/bin/python3 for Python 3 or /usr/bin/python for Python 2 and then click “Next”. Note that this assumes you have the symbolic link (that is setup by default) that resolves to the Python executable. If you are unsure as to where your Python executables are, enter either of these commands into Terminal: which python3 and which python.
  6. Click “Next”.
  7. Choose where to save it and click “Create”.
  8. In the menu bar, click “File” ? “New” ? “New File…”.
  9. Select “Other” under “OS X”.
  10. Select “Empty” and click “Next”.
  11. Navigate to the project folder (it will not work, otherwise), enter the name of the Python file (including the “.py” extension), and click “Create”.
  12. In the menu bar, click “Product” ? “Scheme” ? “Edit Scheme…”.
  13. Click “Run” in the left pane.
  14. In the “Info” tab, click the “Executable” field and then click “Other…”.
  15. Navigate to the executable from Step 5. You might need to use ??G to type in the directory if it is hidden.
  16. Select the executable and click "Choose".
  17. Uncheck “Debug executable”. If you skip this step, Xcode will try to debug the Python executable itself. I am unaware of a way to integrate an external debugging tool into Xcode.
  18. Click the “+” icon under “Arguments Passed On Launch”. You might have to expand that section by clicking on the triangle pointing to the right.
  19. Type in $(SRCROOT)/ (or $(SOURCE_ROOT)/) and then the name of the Python file you want to test. Remember, the Python program must be in the project folder. Otherwise, you will have to type out the full path (or relative path if it's in a subfolder of the project folder) here. If there are spaces anywhere in the full path, you must include quotation marks at the beginning and end of this.
  20. Click “Close”.

Note that if you open the "Utilities" panel, with the "Show the File inspector" tab active, the file type is automatically set to "Default - Python script". Feel free to look through all the file type options it has, to gain an idea as to what all it is capable of doing. The method above can be applied to any interpreted language. As of right now, I have yet to figure out exactly how to get it to work with Java; then again, I haven't done too much research. Surely there is some documentation floating around on the web about all of this.

Running without administrative privileges:

If you do not have administrative privileges or are not in the Developer group, you can still use Xcode for Python programming (but you still won't be able to develop in languages that require compiling). Instead of using the play button, in the menu bar, click "Product" ? "Perform Action" ? "Run Without Building" or simply use the keyboard shortcut ^?R.

Other Notes:

To change the text encoding, line endings, and/or indentation settings, open the "Utilities" panel and click "Show the File inspector" tab active. There, you will find these settings.

For more information about Xcode's build settings, there is no better source than this. I'd be interested in hearing from somebody who got this to work with unsupported compiled languages. This process should work for any other interpreted language. Just be sure to change Step 5 and Step 16 accordingly.

How to change checkbox's border style in CSS?

Here is a pure CSS (no images) cross-browser solution based on Martin's Custom Checkboxes and Radio Buttons with CSS3 LINK: http://martinivanov.net/2012/12/21/imageless-custom-checkboxes-and-radio-buttons-with-css3-revisited/

Determining the size of an Android view at runtime

You can get both Position and Dimension of the view on screen

 val viewTreeObserver: ViewTreeObserver = videoView.viewTreeObserver;

if (viewTreeObserver.isAlive) {
    viewTreeObserver.addOnGlobalLayoutListener(object : ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener {
        override fun onGlobalLayout() {
            //Remove Listener
            videoView.viewTreeObserver.removeOnGlobalLayoutListener(this);

            //View Dimentions
            viewWidth = videoView.width;
            viewHeight = videoView.height;

            //View Location
            val point = IntArray(2)
            videoView.post {
                videoView.getLocationOnScreen(point) // or getLocationInWindow(point)
                viewPositionX = point[0]
                viewPositionY = point[1]
            }

        }
    });
}

Determine if Android app is being used for the first time

There is support for just this in the support library revision 23.3.0 (in the v4 which means compability back to Android 1.6).

In your Launcher activity, first call:

AppLaunchChecker.onActivityCreate(activity);

Then call:

AppLaunchChecker.hasStartedFromLauncher(activity);

Which will return if this was the first time the app was launched.

How to count the number of occurrences of a character in an Oracle varchar value?

I thought of

 SELECT LENGTH('123-345-566') - LENGTH(REPLACE('123-345-566', '-', '')) FROM DUAL;

HTML.ActionLink method

I think that Joseph flipped controller and action. First comes the action then the controller. This is somewhat strange, but the way the signature looks.

Just to clarify things, this is the version that works (adaption of Joseph's example):

Html.ActionLink(article.Title,
    "Login",  // <-- ActionMethod
    "Item",   // <-- Controller Name
    new { id = article.ArticleID }, // <-- Route arguments.
    null // <-- htmlArguments .. which are none
    )

Are string.Equals() and == operator really same?

The apparent contradictions that appear in the question are caused because in one case the Equals function is called on a string object, and in the other case the == operator is called on the System.Object type. string and object implement equality differently from each other (value vs. reference respectively).

Beyond this fact, any type can define == and Equals differently, so in general they are not interchangeable.

Here’s an example using double (from Joseph Albahari’s note to §7.9.2 of the C# language specification):

double x = double.NaN;
Console.WriteLine (x == x);         // False
Console.WriteLine (x != x);         // True
Console.WriteLine (x.Equals(x));    // True

He goes on to say that the double.Equals(double) method was designed to work correctly with lists and dictionaries. The == operator, on the other hand, was designed to follow the IEEE 754 standard for floating point types.

In the specific case of determining string equality, the industry preference is to use neither == nor string.Equals(string) most of the time. These methods determine whether two string are the same character-for-character, which is rarely the correct behavior. It is better to use string.Equals(string, StringComparison), which allows you to specify a particular type of comparison. By using the correct comparison, you can avoid a lot of potential (very hard to diagnose) bugs.

Here’s one example:

string one = "Caf\u00e9";        // U+00E9 LATIN SMALL LETTER E WITH ACUTE
string two = "Cafe\u0301";       // U+0301 COMBINING ACUTE ACCENT
Console.WriteLine(one == two);                                          // False
Console.WriteLine(one.Equals(two));                                     // False
Console.WriteLine(one.Equals(two, StringComparison.InvariantCulture));  // True

Both strings in this example look the same ("Café"), so this could be very tough to debug if using a naïve (ordinal) equality.

C# Regex for Guid

In .NET Framework 4 there is enhancement System.Guid structure, These includes new TryParse and TryParseExact methods to Parse GUID. Here is example for this.

    //Generate New GUID
    Guid objGuid = Guid.NewGuid();
    //Take invalid guid format
    string strGUID = "aaa-a-a-a-a";

    Guid newGuid;

    if (Guid.TryParse(objGuid.ToString(), out newGuid) == true)
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is Valid GUID.", objGuid.ToString()));
    }
    else
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is InValid GUID.", objGuid.ToString()));
    }

    Guid newTmpGuid;

    if (Guid.TryParse(strGUID, out newTmpGuid) == true)
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is Valid GUID.", strGUID));
    }
    else
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is InValid GUID.", strGUID));
    }

In this example we create new guid object and also take one string variable which has invalid guid. After that we use TryParse method to validate that both variable has valid guid format or not. By running example you can see that string variable has not valid guid format and it gives message of "InValid guid". If string variable has valid guid than this will return true in TryParse method.

Am I trying to connect to a TLS-enabled daemon without TLS?

I tried the solutions here, and boot2docker didn't work.

My solution: Uninstall boot2docker on the Mac, install a Centos 7 VM in VirtualBox, and work with Docker inside that VM.

How do I store data in local storage using Angularjs?

this is a bit of my code that stores and retrieves to local storage. i use broadcast events to save and restore the values in the model.

app.factory('userService', ['$rootScope', function ($rootScope) {

    var service = {

        model: {
            name: '',
            email: ''
        },

        SaveState: function () {
            sessionStorage.userService = angular.toJson(service.model);
        },

        RestoreState: function () {
            service.model = angular.fromJson(sessionStorage.userService);
        }
    }

    $rootScope.$on("savestate", service.SaveState);
    $rootScope.$on("restorestate", service.RestoreState);

    return service;
}]);

How to horizontally center an unordered list of unknown width?

The solution, if your list items can be display: inline is quite easy:

#footer { text-align: center; }
#footer ul { list-style: none; }
#footer ul li { display: inline; }

However, many times you must use display:block on your <li>s. The following CSS will work, in this case:

#footer { width: 100%; overflow: hidden; }
#footer ul { list-style: none; position: relative; float: left; display: block; left: 50%; }
#footer ul li { position: relative; float: left; display: block; right: 50%; }

On design patterns: When should I use the singleton?

A practical example of a singleton can be found in Test::Builder, the class which backs just about every modern Perl testing module. The Test::Builder singleton stores and brokers the state and history of the test process (historical test results, counts the number of tests run) as well as things like where the test output is going. These are all necessary to coordinate multiple testing modules, written by different authors, to work together in a single test script.

The history of Test::Builder's singleton is educational. Calling new() always gives you the same object. First, all the data was stored as class variables with nothing in the object itself. This worked until I wanted to test Test::Builder with itself. Then I needed two Test::Builder objects, one setup as a dummy, to capture and test its behavior and output, and one to be the real test object. At that point Test::Builder was refactored into a real object. The singleton object was stored as class data, and new() would always return it. create() was added to make a fresh object and enable testing.

Currently, users are wanting to change some behaviors of Test::Builder in their own module, but leave others alone, while the test history remains in common across all testing modules. What's happening now is the monolithic Test::Builder object is being broken down into smaller pieces (history, output, format...) with a Test::Builder instance collecting them together. Now Test::Builder no longer has to be a singleton. Its components, like history, can be. This pushes the inflexible necessity of a singleton down a level. It gives more flexibility to the user to mix-and-match pieces. The smaller singleton objects can now just store data, with their containing objects deciding how to use it. It even allows a non-Test::Builder class to play along by using the Test::Builder history and output singletons.

Seems to be there's a push and pull between coordination of data and flexibility of behavior which can be mitigated by putting the singleton around just shared data with the smallest amount of behavior as possible to ensure data integrity.

How do I filter date range in DataTables?

Here is my solution, cobbled together from the range filter example in the datatables docs, and letting moment.js do the dirty work of comparing the dates.

HTML

<input
    type="text"
    id="min-date"
    class="date-range-filter"
    placeholder="From: yyyy-mm-dd">

<input
    type="text"
    id="max-date"
    class="date-range-filter"
    placeholder="To: yyyy-mm-dd">

<table id="my-table">
    <thead>
        <tr>
            <th>ID</th>
            <th>Name</th>
            <th>Created At</th>
        </tr>
    </thead>
</table>

JS

Install Moment: npm install moment

// Assign moment to global namespace
window.moment = require('moment');

// Set up your table
table = $('#my-table').DataTable({
    // ... do your thing here.
});

// Extend dataTables search
$.fn.dataTable.ext.search.push(
    function( settings, data, dataIndex ) {
        var min  = $('#min-date').val();
        var max  = $('#max-date').val();
        var createdAt = data[2] || 0; // Our date column in the table

        if  (
                ( min == "" || max == "" )
                ||
                ( moment(createdAt).isSameOrAfter(min) && moment(createdAt).isSameOrBefore(max) )
            )
        {
            return true;
        }
        return false;
    }
);

// Re-draw the table when the a date range filter changes
$('.date-range-filter').change( function() {
    table.draw();
} );

JSFiddle Here

Notes

  • Using moment decouples the date comparison logic, and makes it easy to work with different formats. In my table, I used yyyy-mm-dd, but you could use mm/dd/yyyy as well. Be sure to reference moment's docs when parsing other formats, as you may need to modify what method you use.

Which mime type should I use for mp3

I had a problem with mime types and where making tests for few file types. It looks like each browser sends it's variation of a mime type for a specific file. I was trying to upload mp3 and zip files with open source php class, that what I have found:

  • Firefox (mp3): audio/mpeg
  • Firefox (zip): application/zip
  • Chrome (mp3): audio/mp3
  • Chrome (zip): application/octet-stream
  • Opera (mp3): audio/mp3
  • Opera (zip): application/octet-stream
  • IE (mp3): audio/mpeg
  • IE (zip): application/x-zip-compressed

So if you need several file types to upload, you better make some tests so that every browser could upload a file and pass mime type check.

Using Math.round to round to one decimal place?

Your method is right, all you have to do is add a .0 after both the tens and it will fix your problem!

double example = Math.round((187/35) * 10.0) / 10.0;

The output would be:

5.3

Ternary operator in AngularJS templates

Update: Angular 1.1.5 added a ternary operator, this answer is correct only to versions preceding 1.1.5. For 1.1.5 and later, see the currently accepted answer.

Before Angular 1.1.5:

The form of a ternary in angularjs is:

((condition) && (answer if true) || (answer if false))

An example would be:

<ul class="nav">
    <li>
        <a   href="#/page1" style="{{$location.path()=='/page2' && 'color:#fff;' || 'color:#000;'}}">Goals</a>
    </li>
    <li>
        <a   href="#/page2" style="{{$location.path()=='/page2' && 'color:#fff;' || 'color:#000;'}}">Groups</a>
    </li>
</ul>

or:

 <li  ng-disabled="currentPage == 0" ng-click="currentPage=0"  class="{{(currentPage == 0) && 'disabled' || ''}}"><a> << </a></li>

What's the proper way to install pip, virtualenv, and distribute for Python?

You can do this without installing anything into python itself.

You don't need sudo or any privileges.

You don't need to edit any files.

Install virtualenv into a bootstrap virtual environment. Use the that virtual environment to create more. Since virtualenv ships with pip and distribute, you get everything from one install.

  1. Download virtualenv:
  2. Unpack the source tarball
  3. Use the unpacked tarball to create a clean virtual environment. This virtual environment will be used to "bootstrap" others. All of your virtual environments will automatically contain pip and distribute.
  4. Using pip, install virtualenv into that bootstrap environment.
  5. Use that bootstrap environment to create more!

Here is an example in bash:

# Select current version of virtualenv:
VERSION=12.0.7
# Name your first "bootstrap" environment:
INITIAL_ENV=bootstrap
# Set to whatever python interpreter you want for your first environment:
PYTHON=$(which python)
URL_BASE=https://pypi.python.org/packages/source/v/virtualenv

# --- Real work starts here ---
curl -O $URL_BASE/virtualenv-$VERSION.tar.gz
tar xzf virtualenv-$VERSION.tar.gz
# Create the first "bootstrap" environment.
$PYTHON virtualenv-$VERSION/virtualenv.py $INITIAL_ENV
# Don't need this anymore.
rm -rf virtualenv-$VERSION
# Install virtualenv into the environment.
$INITIAL_ENV/bin/pip install virtualenv-$VERSION.tar.gz

Now you can use your "bootstrap" environment to create more:

# Create a second environment from the first:
$INITIAL_ENV/bin/virtualenv py-env1
# Create more:
$INITIAL_ENV/bin/virtualenv py-env2

Go nuts!

Note

This assumes you are not using a really old version of virtualenv. Old versions required the flags --no-site-packges (and depending on the version of Python, --distribute). Now you can create your bootstrap environment with just python virtualenv.py path-to-bootstrap or python3 virtualenv.py path-to-bootstrap.

Running conda with proxy

Or you can use the command line below from version 4.4.x.

conda config --set proxy_servers.http http://id:pw@address:port

Why are there two ways to unstage a file in Git?

Quite simply:

  • git rm --cached <file> makes git stop tracking the file completely (leaving it in the filesystem, unlike plain git rm*)
  • git reset HEAD <file> unstages any modifications made to the file since the last commit (but doesn't revert them in the filesystem, contrary to what the command name might suggest**). The file remains under revision control.

If the file wasn't in revision control before (i.e. you're unstaging a file that you had just git added for the first time), then the two commands have the same effect, hence the appearance of these being "two ways of doing something".

* Keep in mind the caveat @DrewT mentions in his answer, regarding git rm --cached of a file that was previously committed to the repository. In the context of this question, of a file just added and not committed yet, there's nothing to worry about.

** I was scared for an embarrassingly long time to use the git reset command because of its name -- and still today I often look up the syntax to make sure I don't screw up. (update: I finally took the time to summarize the usage of git reset in a tldr page, so now I have a better mental model of how it works, and a quick reference for when I forget some detail.)

Is there a php echo/print equivalent in javascript

You can use

function echo(content) {
    var e = document.createElement("p");
    e.innerHTML = content;
    document.currentScript.parentElement.replaceChild(document.currentScript, e);
}

which will replace the currently executing script who called the echo function with the text in the content argument.

How to remove outliers in boxplot in R?

See ?boxplot for all the help you need.

 outline: if ‘outline’ is not true, the outliers are not drawn (as
          points whereas S+ uses lines).

boxplot(x,horizontal=TRUE,axes=FALSE,outline=FALSE)

And for extending the range of the whiskers and suppressing the outliers inside this range:

   range: this determines how far the plot whiskers extend out from the
          box. If ‘range’ is positive, the whiskers extend to the most
          extreme data point which is no more than ‘range’ times the
          interquartile range from the box. A value of zero causes the
          whiskers to extend to the data extremes.

# change the value of range to change the whisker length
boxplot(x,horizontal=TRUE,axes=FALSE,range=2)

How do I update the password for Git?

you can change password through command line in 2 places, following would edit credentials to connect the repo

git config --edit

The credentials also can be changed at global using global parameter like below

 git config --global --add user.password "XXXX"

or set the credentials helper with

git config --global credential.helper wincred

but if you have repo level credentials set the use the first command

git config --edit

Postgres where clause compare timestamp

Assuming you actually mean timestamp because there is no datetime in Postgres

Cast the timestamp column to a date, that will remove the time part:

select *
from the_table
where the_timestamp_column::date = date '2015-07-15';

This will return all rows from July, 15th.

Note that the above will not use an index on the_timestamp_column. If performance is critical, you need to either create an index on that expression or use a range condition:

select *
from the_table
where the_timestamp_column >= timestamp '2015-07-15 00:00:00'
  and the_timestamp_column < timestamp '2015-07-16 00:00:00';

document.all vs. document.getElementById

Actually, document.all is only minimally comparable to document.getElementById. You wouldn't use one in place of the other, they don't return the same things.

If you were trying to filter through browser capabilities you could use them as in Marcel Korpel's answer like this:

if(document.getElementById){  //DOM
    element = document.getElementById(id);
} else if (document.all) {    //IE
    element = document.all[id];
} else if (document.layers){  //Netscape < 6
    element = document.layers[id];
}

But, functionally, document.getElementsByTagName('*') is more equivalent to document.all.

For example, if you were actually going to use document.all to examine all the elements on a page, like this:

var j = document.all.length;
for(var i = 0; i < j; i++){
   alert("Page element["+i+"] has tagName:"+document.all(i).tagName);
}

you would use document.getElementsByTagName('*') instead:

var k = document.getElementsByTagName("*");
var j = k.length;
for (var i = 0; i < j; i++){
    alert("Page element["+i+"] has tagName:"+k[i].tagName);
}

Git pull command from different user

Your question is a little unclear, but if what you're doing is trying to get your friend's latest changes, then typically what your friend needs to do is to push those changes up to a remote repo (like one hosted on GitHub), and then you fetch or pull those changes from the remote:

  1. Your friend pushes his changes to GitHub:

    git push origin <branch>

  2. Clone the remote repository if you haven't already:

    git clone https://[email protected]/abc/theproject.git

  3. Fetch or pull your friend's changes (unnecessary if you just cloned in step #2 above):

    git fetch origin
    git merge origin/<branch>

    Note that git pull is the same as doing the two steps above:

    git pull origin <branch>

How to specify jackson to only use fields - preferably globally

You can configure individual ObjectMappers like this:

ObjectMapper mapper  = new ObjectMapper();
mapper.setVisibility(mapper.getSerializationConfig().getDefaultVisibilityChecker()
                .withFieldVisibility(JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.ANY)
                .withGetterVisibility(JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.NONE)
                .withSetterVisibility(JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.NONE)
                .withCreatorVisibility(JsonAutoDetect.Visibility.NONE));

If you want it set globally, I usually access a configured mapper through a wrapper class.

PHP cURL custom headers

Here is one basic function:

/**
 *
 * @param string $url
 * @param string|array $post_fields
 * @param array $headers
 * @return type
 */
function cUrlGetData($url, $post_fields = null, $headers = null) {
    $ch = curl_init();
    $timeout = 5;
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $url);
    if ($post_fields && !empty($post_fields)) {
        curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
        curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $post_fields);
    }
    if ($headers && !empty($headers)) {
        curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, $headers);
    }
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, 0);
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, 0);
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, $timeout);
    $data = curl_exec($ch);
    if (curl_errno($ch)) {
        echo 'Error:' . curl_error($ch);
    }
    curl_close($ch);
    return $data;
}

Usage example:

$url = "http://www.myurl.com";
$post_fields = 'postvars=val1&postvars2=val2';
$headers = ['Content-Type' => 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded', 'charset' => 'utf-8'];
$dat = cUrlGetData($url, $post_fields, $headers);

align divs to the bottom of their container

The modern way to do this is with flexbox, adding align-items: flex-end; on the container.

With this content:

<div class="Container">
  <div>one</div>
  <div>two</div>
</div>

Use this style:

.Container {
  display: flex;
  align-items: flex-end;
}

Passing data to components in vue.js

The above-mentioned responses work well but if you want to pass data between 2 sibling components, then the event bus can also be used. Check out this blog which would help you understand better.

supppose for 2 components : CompA & CompB having same parent and main.js for setting up main vue app. For passing data from CompA to CompB without involving parent component you can do the following.

in main.js file, declare a separate global Vue instance, that will be event bus.

export const bus = new Vue();

In CompA, where the event is generated : you have to emit the event to bus.

methods: {
      somethingHappened (){
          bus.$emit('changedSomething', 'new data');
      }
  }

Now the task is to listen the emitted event, so, in CompB, you can listen like.

created (){
    bus.$on('changedSomething', (newData) => {
      console.log(newData);
    })
  }

Advantages:

  • Less & Clean code.
  • Parent should not involve in passing down data from 1 child comp to another ( as the number of children grows, it will become hard to maintain )
  • Follows pub-sub approach.

Finding median of list in Python

Here what I came up with during this exercise in Codecademy:

def median(data):
    new_list = sorted(data)
    if len(new_list)%2 > 0:
        return new_list[len(new_list)/2]
    elif len(new_list)%2 == 0:
        return (new_list[(len(new_list)/2)] + new_list[(len(new_list)/2)-1]) /2.0

print median([1,2,3,4,5,9])

How to find keys of a hash?

you can use Object.keys

Object.keys(h)

Hashing a dictionary?

While hash(frozenset(x.items()) and hash(tuple(sorted(x.items())) work, that's doing a lot of work allocating and copying all the key-value pairs. A hash function really should avoid a lot of memory allocation.

A little bit of math can help here. The problem with most hash functions is that they assume that order matters. To hash an unordered structure, you need a commutative operation. Multiplication doesn't work well as any element hashing to 0 means the whole product is 0. Bitwise & and | tend towards all 0's or 1's. There are two good candidates: addition and xor.

from functools import reduce
from operator import xor

class hashable(dict):
    def __hash__(self):
        return reduce(xor, map(hash, self.items()), 0)

    # Alternative
    def __hash__(self):
        return sum(map(hash, self.items()))

One point: xor works, in part, because dict guarantees keys are unique. And sum works because Python will bitwise truncate the results.

If you want to hash a multiset, sum is preferable. With xor, {a} would hash to the same value as {a, a, a} because x ^ x ^ x = x.

If you really need the guarantees that SHA makes, this won't work for you. But to use a dictionary in a set, this will work fine; Python containers are resiliant to some collisions, and the underlying hash functions are pretty good.

How do I resolve a path relative to an ASP.NET MVC 4 application root?

In your controller use:

var path = HttpContext.Server.MapPath("~/Data/data.html");

This allows you to test the controller with Moq like so:

var queryString = new NameValueCollection();
var mockRequest = new Mock<HttpRequestBase>();
mockRequest.Setup(r => r.QueryString).Returns(queryString);
var mockHttpContext = new Mock<HttpContextBase>();
mockHttpContext.Setup(c => c.Request).Returns(mockRequest.Object);
var server = new Mock<HttpServerUtilityBase>();
server.Setup(m => m.MapPath("~/Data/data.html")).Returns("path/to/test/data");
mockHttpContext.Setup(m => m.Server).Returns(server.Object);
var mockControllerContext = new Mock<ControllerContext>();
mockControllerContext.Setup(c => c.HttpContext).Returns(mockHttpContext.Object);
var controller = new MyTestController();
controller.ControllerContext = mockControllerContext.Object;

How do I round a float upwards to the nearest int in C#?

You can cast to an int provided you are sure it's in the range for an int (Int32.MinValue to Int32.MaxValue).

Is there an ignore command for git like there is for svn?

You have two ways of ignoring files:

  • .gitignore in any folder will ignore the files as specified in the file for that folder. Using wildcards is possible.
  • .git/info/exclude holds the global ignore pattern, similar to the global-ignores in subversions configuration file.

How to study design patterns?

Design patterns are just tools--kind of like library functions. If you know that they are there and their approximate function, you can go dig them out of a book when needed.

There is nothing magic about design patterns, and any good programmer figured 90% of them out for themselves before any books came out. For the most part I consider the books to be most useful at simply defining names for the various patterns so we can discuss them more easily.

Using dig to search for SPF records

The dig utility is pretty convenient to use. The order of the arguments don't really matter.I'll show you some easy examples.
To get all root name servers use

# dig

To get a TXT record of a specific host use

# dig example.com txt
# dig host.example.com txt

To query a specific name server just add @nameserver.tld

# dig host.example.com txt @a.iana-servers.net

The SPF RFC4408 says that SPF records can be stored as SPF or TXT. However nearly all use only TXT records at the moment. So you are pretty safe if you only fetch TXT records.

I made a SPF checker for visualising the SPF records of a domain. It might help you to understand SPF records better. You can find it here: http://spf.myisp.ch

Pick any kind of file via an Intent in Android

Samsung file explorer needs not only custom action (com.sec.android.app.myfiles.PICK_DATA), but also category part (Intent.CATEGORY_DEFAULT) and mime-type should be passed as extra.

Intent intent = new Intent("com.sec.android.app.myfiles.PICK_DATA");
intent.putExtra("CONTENT_TYPE", "*/*");
intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_DEFAULT);

You can also use this action for opening multiple files: com.sec.android.app.myfiles.PICK_DATA_MULTIPLE Anyway here is my solution which works on Samsung and other devices:

public void openFile(String mimeType) {

        Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
        intent.setType(mimeType);
        intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);

        // special intent for Samsung file manager
        Intent sIntent = new Intent("com.sec.android.app.myfiles.PICK_DATA");
         // if you want any file type, you can skip next line
        sIntent.putExtra("CONTENT_TYPE", mimeType);
        sIntent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_DEFAULT);

        Intent chooserIntent;
        if (getPackageManager().resolveActivity(sIntent, 0) != null){
            // it is device with Samsung file manager
            chooserIntent = Intent.createChooser(sIntent, "Open file");
            chooserIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_INITIAL_INTENTS, new Intent[] { intent});
        } else {
            chooserIntent = Intent.createChooser(intent, "Open file");
        }

        try {
            startActivityForResult(chooserIntent, CHOOSE_FILE_REQUESTCODE);
        } catch (android.content.ActivityNotFoundException ex) {
            Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "No suitable File Manager was found.", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
        }
    }

This solution works well for me, and maybe will be useful for someone else.

What is the "realm" in basic authentication

A realm can be seen as an area (not a particular page, it could be a group of pages) for which the credentials are used; this is also the string that will be shown when the browser pops up the login window, e.g.

Please enter your username and password for <realm name>:

When the realm changes, the browser may show another popup window if it doesn't have credentials for that particular realm.

How to git-svn clone the last n revisions from a Subversion repository?

You've already discovered the simplest way to specify a shallow clone in Git-SVN, by specifying the SVN revision number that you want to start your clone at ( -r$REV:HEAD).

For example: git svn clone -s -r1450:HEAD some/svn/repo

Git's data structure is based on pointers in a directed acyclic graph (DAG), which makes it trivial to walk back n commits. But in SVN ( and therefore in Git-SVN) you will have to find the revision number yourself.

Automated testing for REST Api

I collaborated with one of my coworkers to start the PyRestTest framework for this reason: https://github.com/svanoort/pyresttest

Although you can work with the tests in Python, the normal test format is in YAML.

Sample test suite for a basic REST app -- verifies that APIs respond correctly, checking HTTP status codes, though you can make it examine response bodies as well:

---
- config:
    - testset: "Tests using test app"

- test: # create entity
    - name: "Basic get"
    - url: "/api/person/"
- test: # create entity
    - name: "Get single person"
    - url: "/api/person/1/"
- test: # create entity
    - name: "Get single person"
    - url: "/api/person/1/"
    - method: 'DELETE'
- test: # create entity by PUT
    - name: "Create/update person"
    - url: "/api/person/1/"
    - method: "PUT"
    - body: '{"first_name": "Gaius","id": 1,"last_name": "Baltar","login": "gbaltar"}'
    - headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/json'}
- test: # create entity by POST
    - name: "Create person"
    - url: "/api/person/"
    - method: "POST"
    - body: '{"first_name": "Willim","last_name": "Adama","login": "theadmiral"}'
    - headers: {Content-Type: application/json}

What is causing ERROR: there is no unique constraint matching given keys for referenced table?

when you do UNIQUE as a table level constraint as you have done then what your defining is a bit like a composite primary key see ddl constraints, here is an extract

"This specifies that the *combination* of values in the indicated columns is unique across the whole table, though any one of the columns need not be (and ordinarily isn't) unique."

this means that either field could possibly have a non unique value provided the combination is unique and this does not match your foreign key constraint.

most likely you want the constraint to be at column level. so rather then define them as table level constraints, 'append' UNIQUE to the end of the column definition like name VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL UNIQUE or specify indivdual table level constraints for each field.

Styling HTML5 input type number

Also you can replace size attribute by a style attribute:
<input type="number" name="numericInput" style="width: 50px;" min="0" max="18" value="0" />

Inserting data to table (mysqli insert)

Warning: Never ever refer to w3schools for learning purposes. They have so many mistakes in their tutorials.

According to the mysqli_query documentation, the first parameter must be a connection string:

$link = mysqli_connect("localhost","root","","web_table");

mysqli_query($link,"INSERT INTO web_formitem (`ID`, `formID`, `caption`, `key`, `sortorder`, `type`, `enabled`, `mandatory`, `data`)
VALUES (105, 7, 'Tip izdelka (6)', 'producttype_6', 42, 5, 1, 0, 0)")
or die(mysqli_error($link));

Note: Add backticks ` for column names in your insert query as some of your column names are reserved words.

How to edit log message already committed in Subversion?

On Windows, using Tortoise SVN client:

  1. right click in your project folder and choose "Show log"
  2. in the Log Messages window, right click on a revision and choose "Edit log message"

If it doesn't work it might because of the way SVN on server is setup, read other responses here.

check if directory exists and delete in one command unix

Try:

bash -c '[ -d my_mystery_dirname ] && run_this_command'

This will work if you can run bash on the remote machine....

In bash, [ -d something ] checks if there is directory called 'something', returning a success code if it exists and is a directory. Chaining commands with && runs the second command only if the first one succeeded. So [ -d somedir ] && command runs the command only if the directory exists.

how to implement Interfaces in C++?

C++ has no built-in concepts of interfaces. You can implement it using abstract classes which contains only pure virtual functions. Since it allows multiple inheritance, you can inherit this class to create another class which will then contain this interface (I mean, object interface :) ) in it.

An example would be something like this -

class Interface
{
public:
    Interface(){}
    virtual ~Interface(){}
    virtual void method1() = 0; // "= 0" part makes this method pure virtual, and
                                   // also makes this class abstract.
    virtual void method2() = 0;
};

class Concrete : public Interface
{
private:
    int myMember;

public:
    Concrete(){}
    ~Concrete(){}
    void method1();
    void method2();
};

// Provide implementation for the first method
void Concrete::method1()
{
    // Your implementation
}

// Provide implementation for the second method
void Concrete::method2()
{
    // Your implementation
}

int main(void)
{
    Interface *f = new Concrete();

    f->method1();
    f->method2();

    delete f;

    return 0;
}

reading from stdin in c++

You have not defined the variable input_line.

Add this:

string input_line;

And add this include.

#include <string>

Here is the full example. I also removed the semi-colon after the while loop, and you should have getline inside the while to properly detect the end of the stream.

#include <iostream>
#include <string>

int main() {
    for (std::string line; std::getline(std::cin, line);) {
        std::cout << line << std::endl;
    }
    return 0;
}

    method = method || "post"; // Set method to post by default if not specified.

    var form = document.createElement("form");
    form.setAttribute("method", method);
    form.setAttribute("action", path);

    for(var key in params) {
        if(params.hasOwnProperty(key)) {
            var hiddenField = document.createElement("input");
            hiddenField.setAttribute("type", "hidden");
            hiddenField.setAttribute("name", key);
            hiddenField.setAttribute("value", params[key]);

            form.appendChild(hiddenField);

    }

    document.body.appendChild(form);
    form.submit();
}

Random row selection in Pandas dataframe

The best way to do this is with the sample function from the random module,

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
from random import sample

# given data frame df

# create random index
rindex =  np.array(sample(xrange(len(df)), 10))

# get 10 random rows from df
dfr = df.ix[rindex]

Rotating and spacing axis labels in ggplot2

q <- qplot(cut, carat, data = diamonds, geom = "boxplot")
q + ggpubr::rotate_x_text()

What is the main difference between Collection and Collections in Java?

Collection is an Interface which can used to Represent a Group of Individual object as a single Entity.

Collections is an utility class to Define several Utility Methods for Collection object.

equals vs Arrays.equals in Java

import java.util.Arrays;
public class ArrayDemo {
   public static void main(String[] args) {
   // initializing three object arrays
   Object[] array1 = new Object[] { 1, 123 };
   Object[] array2 = new Object[] { 1, 123, 22, 4 };
   Object[] array3 = new Object[] { 1, 123 };

   // comparing array1 and array2
   boolean retval=Arrays.equals(array1, array2);
   System.out.println("array1 and array2 equal: " + retval);
   System.out.println("array1 and array2 equal: " + array1.equals(array2));

   // comparing array1 and array3
   boolean retval2=Arrays.equals(array1, array3);
   System.out.println("array1 and array3 equal: " + retval2);
   System.out.println("array1 and array3 equal: " + array1.equals(array3));

   }
}

Here is the output:

    array1 and array2 equal: false
    array1 and array2 equal: false

    array1 and array3 equal: true
    array1 and array3 equal: false

Seeing this kind of problem I would personally go for Arrays.equals(array1, array2) as per your question to avoid confusion.

Ansible date variable

Note that the ansible command doesn't collect facts, but the ansible-playbook command does. When running ansible -m setup, the setup module happens to run the fact collection so you get the facts, but running ansible -m command does not. Therefore the facts aren't available. This is why the other answers include playbook YAML files and indicate the lookup works.
