Programs & Examples On #Nethack

Single-player roguelike video game originally released in 1987 with ASCII graphics. It is a descendant of an earlier game called Hack (1985), which is a descendant of Rogue (1980).

Representing Directory & File Structure in Markdown Syntax

If you're using Atom editor, you can accomplish this by the ascii-tree package.

You can write the following tree:

root
+-- dir1
    +--file1
+-- dir2
    +-- file2

and convert it to the following by selecting it and pressing ctrl-alt-t:

root
+-- dir1
¦   +-- file1
+-- dir2
    +-- file2

How to delete a character from a string using Python

How can I remove the middle character, i.e., M from it?

You can't, because strings in Python are immutable.

Do strings in Python end in any special character?

No. They are similar to lists of characters; the length of the list defines the length of the string, and no character acts as a terminator.

Which is a better way - shifting everything right to left starting from the middle character OR creation of a new string and not copying the middle character?

You cannot modify the existing string, so you must create a new one containing everything except the middle character.

"Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly" when trying to start MySQL

I had the same error. I checked the error logs: C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data\inf3rno-PC.err. According to them

170208  1:10:44 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported storage engine: INNODB

I think the important part here

170208 1:10:44 InnoDB: Error: unable to create temporary file; errno: 2

I changed the TMP and TEMP env variables from C:\Windows\Temp to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp yesterday, because I was unable to compress a directory and according to many post the solution is that. Now compression works, but mysql and apparently nod32 complains that they cannot create temporary files...

I added tmpdir=c:/server/mytmp to C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\my.ini. And after that started the service again with services.msc. It is okay now.

So this can be a possible cause as well. I strongly suggest to everybody encountering this problem to check the error logs.

Cannot import keras after installation

I had pip referring by default to pip3, which made me download the libs for python3. On the contrary I launched the shell as python (which opened python 2) and the library wasn't installed there obviously.

Once I matched the names pip3 -> python3, pip -> python (2) all worked.

Class Not Found: Empty Test Suite in IntelliJ

I tried all solutions but none of them helped. At the end i run test in debug mode and.... it started to work. Maybe some maven's cache was cleared up. It is difficult to say. It works. Try mvn test -X

Execute cmd command from VBScript

Can also invoke oShell.Exec in order to be able to read STDIN/STDOUT/STDERR responses. Perfect for error checking which it seems you're doing with your sanity .BAT.

PHP - find entry by object property from an array of objects

Using array_column to re-index will save time if you need to find multiple times:

$lookup = array_column($arr, NULL, 'id');   // re-index by 'id'

Then you can simply $lookup[$id] at will.

How to add trendline in python matplotlib dot (scatter) graphs?

as explained here

With help from numpy one can calculate for example a linear fitting.

# plot the data itself
pylab.plot(x,y,'o')

# calc the trendline
z = numpy.polyfit(x, y, 1)
p = numpy.poly1d(z)
pylab.plot(x,p(x),"r--")
# the line equation:
print "y=%.6fx+(%.6f)"%(z[0],z[1])

@AspectJ pointcut for all methods of a class with specific annotation

Using annotations, as described in the question.

Annotation: @Monitor

Annotation on class, app/PagesController.java:

What's the common practice for enums in Python?

I have no idea why Enums are not support natively by Python. The best way I've found to emulate them is by overridding _ str _ and _ eq _ so you can compare them and when you use print() you get the string instead of the numerical value.

class enumSeason():
    Spring = 0
    Summer = 1
    Fall = 2
    Winter = 3
    def __init__(self, Type):
        self.value = Type
    def __str__(self):
        if self.value == enumSeason.Spring:
            return 'Spring'
        if self.value == enumSeason.Summer:
            return 'Summer'
        if self.value == enumSeason.Fall:
            return 'Fall'
        if self.value == enumSeason.Winter:
            return 'Winter'
    def __eq__(self,y):
       return self.value==y.value

Usage:

>>> s = enumSeason(enumSeason.Spring)

>>> print(s)

Pass variables to AngularJS controller, best practice?

You could create a basket service. And generally in JS you use objects instead of lots of parameters.

Here's an example: http://jsfiddle.net/2MbZY/

var app = angular.module('myApp', []);

app.factory('basket', function() {
    var items = [];
    var myBasketService = {};

    myBasketService.addItem = function(item) {
        items.push(item);
    };
    myBasketService.removeItem = function(item) {
        var index = items.indexOf(item);
        items.splice(index, 1);
    };
    myBasketService.items = function() {
        return items;
    };

    return myBasketService;
});

function MyCtrl($scope, basket) {
    $scope.newItem = {};
    $scope.basket = basket;
}

Vertically align text within input field of fixed-height without display: table or padding?

I know I'm late to the party but hopefully this'll help anyone looking for a concise answer that does work across all major browsers (except IE6, we have decided to stop supporting that browser so I refuse to even look at it anymore).

    #search #searchbox {

Is there a "null coalescing" operator in JavaScript?

Update

JavaScript now supports the nullish coalescing operator (??). It returns its right-hand-side operand when its left-hand-side operand is null or undefined, and otherwise returns its left-hand-side operand.

Please check compatibility before using it.

The JavaScript equivalent of the C# null coalescing operator (??) is using a logical OR (||):

var whatIWant = someString || "Cookies!";

There are cases (clarified below) that the behaviour won't match that of C#, but this is the general, terse way of assigning default/alternative values in JavaScript.

Clarification

Regardless of the type of the first operand, if casting it to a Boolean results in false, the assignment will use the second operand. Beware of all the cases below:

alert(Boolean(null)); // false
alert(Boolean(undefined)); // false
alert(Boolean(0)); // false
alert(Boolean("")); // false
alert(Boolean("false")); // true -- gotcha! :)

This means:

var whatIWant = null || new ShinyObject(); // is a new shiny object
var whatIWant = undefined || "well defined"; // is "well defined"
var whatIWant = 0 || 42; // is 42
var whatIWant = "" || "a million bucks"; // is "a million bucks"
var whatIWant = "false" || "no way"; // is "false"

In my case i have used .woff files from git repository, and i noticed git has changed my binary files. That with some null character at the file endings. I have rechanged to the orgnal .woff source files and it has corrected!

Also i have understood visual studio controller sending corrupted error like ERR_CONNECTION_RESET from the controller when it gots null character

is there any PHP function for open page in new tab

This is a trick,

function OpenInNewTab(url) {

  var win = window.open(url, '_blank');
  win.focus();
}

In most cases, this should happen directly in the onclick handler for the link to prevent pop-up blockers, and the default "new window" behavior. You could do it this way, or by adding an event listener to your DOM object.

<div onclick="OpenInNewTab();">Something To Click On</div>

How can I get the value of a registry key from within a batch script?

This works for me:

@echo OFF

setlocal ENABLEEXTENSIONS
set KEY_NAME="HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor"
set VALUE_NAME=DefaultColor

FOR /F "usebackq skip=4 tokens=1-3" %%A IN (`REG QUERY %KEY_NAME% /v %VALUE_NAME% 2^>nul`) DO (
    set ValueName=%%A
    set ValueType=%%B
    set ValueValue=%%C
)

if defined ValueName (
    @echo Value Name = %ValueName%
    @echo Value Type = %ValueType%
    @echo Value Value = %ValueValue%
) else (
    @echo %KEY_NAME%\%VALUE_NAME% not found.
)

usebackq is needed since the command to REG QUERY uses double quotes.

skip=4 ignores all the output except for the line that has the value name, type and value, if it exists.

2^>nul prevents the error text from appearing. ^ is the escape character that lets you put the > in the for command.

When I run the script above as given, I get this output:

Value Name = DefaultColor
Value Type = REG_DWORD
Value Value = 0x0

If I change the value of VALUE_NAME to BogusValue then I get this:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor"\BogusValue not found.

Subset dataframe by multiple logical conditions of rows to remove

You can also accomplish this by breaking things up into separate logical statements by including & to separate the statements.

subset(my.df, my.df$v1 != "b" & my.df$v1 != "d" & my.df$v1 != "e")

This is not elegant and takes more code but might be more readable to newer R users. As pointed out in a comment above, subset is a "convenience" function that is best used when working interactively.

How do I push a local repo to Bitbucket using SourceTree without creating a repo on bitbucket first?

Another Solution For Windows Users:

This uses Github as a bridge to get to Bitbucket, caused to the lack of publishing directly from the windows Sourcetree app.

  1. Load your local repo into the Github desktop app.
  2. Publish the repo as a private (for privacy - if desired) repo from the Github desktop app into your Github account.
  3. Open your personal / team account in Bitbucket's website
  4. Create a new Bitbucket repo by importing from Github.
  5. Delete the repo in Github.

Once this is done, everything will be loaded into Bitbucket. Your local remotes will probably need to be configured to point to Bitbucket now.

GCC C++ Linker errors: Undefined reference to 'vtable for XXX', Undefined reference to 'ClassName::ClassName()'

The problem for me turned out to be pretty obscure. My class looked like this:

//-----------------------------------------
// libbase.h
class base {
public:
   base() { }
   virtual ~base() { }

   virtual int foo() { return 0; }
};
//-----------------------------------------

//-----------------------------------------
// libbase.cpp
#include "libbase.h"
//-----------------------------------------

//-----------------------------------------
// main.h
class derived : public base {
public:
    virtual int foo() ;
};
//-----------------------------------------

//-----------------------------------------
// main.cpp
int main () {
    derived d;
}
//-----------------------------------------

The problem is in the linker. My header file went in a library somewhere, but all the virtual functions were declared 'inline' in the class declaration. Since there was no code using the virtual functions (yet), the compiler or linker neglected to put actual function bodies in place. It also failed to create the vtable.

In my main code where I derived from this class, the linker tried to connect my class to the base class and his vtable. But the vtable had been discarded.

The solution was to declare at least one of the virtual functions' bodies outside the class declaration, like this:

//-----------------------------------------
// libbase.h
class base {
public:
   base() { }
   virtual ~base() ; //-- No longer declared 'inline'

   virtual int foo() { return 0; }
};
//-----------------------------------------

//-----------------------------------------
// libbase.cpp
#include "libbase.h"
base::~base()
{
}
//-----------------------------------------

What is so bad about singletons?

When you write code using singletons, say, a logger or a database connection, and afterwards you discover you need more than one log or more than one database, you’re in trouble.

Singletons make it very hard to move from them to regular objects.

Also, it’s too easy to write a non-thread-safe singleton.

Rather than using singletons, you should pass all the needed utility objects from function to function. That can be simplified if you wrap all them into a helper object, like this:

void some_class::some_function(parameters, service_provider& srv)
{
    srv.get<error_logger>().log("Hi there!");
    this->another_function(some_other_parameters, srv);
}

Read response headers from API response - Angular 5 + TypeScript

Try this simple code.

1. Components side code: to get both body and header property. Here there's a token in body and Authorization in the header.

loginUser() {
    this.userService.loginTest(this.loginCred).
    subscribe(res => {
        let output1 = res;
        console.log(output1.body.token);
        console.log(output1.headers.get('Authorization'));
    })
}

2. Service side code: sending login data in the body and observe the response in Observable any which be subscribed in the component side.

loginTest(loginCred: LoginParams): Observable<any> {
    const header1= {'Content-Type':'application/json',};
    const body =  JSON.stringify(loginCred);
    return this.http.post<any>(this.baseURL+'signin',body,{
        headers: header1,
        observe: 'response',
        responseType: 'json'
    });
}

One or more types required to compile a dynamic expression cannot be found. Are you missing references to Microsoft.CSharp.dll and System.Core.dll?

I had the same issue except removing and adding the reference back did not fix the error, so I changed .Net version from 4.5 to 4.5.1.

To achieve this go to your web.config file and change the following lines

<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.5" />
<httpRuntime targetFramework="4.5" />

to this

<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.5.1" />
<httpRuntime targetFramework="4.5.1" />

and rebuild.

C++ error: "Array must be initialized with a brace enclosed initializer"

The syntax to statically initialize an array uses curly braces, like this:

int array[10] = { 0 };

This will zero-initialize the array.

For multi-dimensional arrays, you need nested curly braces, like this:

int cipher[Array_size][Array_size]= { { 0 } };

Note that Array_size must be a compile-time constant for this to work. If Array_size is not known at compile-time, you must use dynamic initialization. (Preferably, an std::vector).

How to install JQ on Mac by command-line?

On a Mac, the "most efficient" way to install jq would probably be using homebrew, e.g.

brew install jq

If you want the development version, you could try:

brew install --HEAD jq

but this has various pre-requisites.

Detailed instructions are on the "Installation" page of the jq wiki: https://github.com/stedolan/jq/wiki/Installation

The same page also includes details regarding installation from source, and has notes on installing with MacPorts.

Spark: Add column to dataframe conditionally

Try withColumn with the function when as follows:

val sqlContext = new SQLContext(sc)
import sqlContext.implicits._ // for `toDF` and $""
import org.apache.spark.sql.functions._ // for `when`

val df = sc.parallelize(Seq((4, "blah", 2), (2, "", 3), (56, "foo", 3), (100, null, 5)))
    .toDF("A", "B", "C")

val newDf = df.withColumn("D", when($"B".isNull or $"B" === "", 0).otherwise(1))

newDf.show() shows

+---+----+---+---+
|  A|   B|  C|  D|
+---+----+---+---+
|  4|blah|  2|  1|
|  2|    |  3|  0|
| 56| foo|  3|  1|
|100|null|  5|  0|
+---+----+---+---+

I added the (100, null, 5) row for testing the isNull case.

I tried this code with Spark 1.6.0 but as commented in the code of when, it works on the versions after 1.4.0.

How to fire an event when v-model changes?

This happens because your click handler fires before the value of the radio button changes. You need to listen to the change event instead:

<input
  type="radio"
  name="optionsRadios"
  id="optionsRadios2"
  value=""
  v-model="srStatus"
  v-on:change="foo"> //here

Also, make sure you really want to call foo() on ready... seems like maybe you don't actually want to do that.

ready:function(){
    foo();
},

ListView inside ScrollView is not scrolling on Android

requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent (boolean disallowIntercept)

Called when a child does not want this parent and its ancestors to intercept touch events with onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent). This parent should pass this call onto its parents. This parent must obey this request for the duration of the touch (that is, only clear the flag after this parent has received an up or a cancel.

Try this answer,

    listview.setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener() {
        @Override
        public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {

// Disallow the touch request for parent scroll on touch of child view
            scrollView.requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent(true);

            int action = event.getActionMasked();
            switch (action) {
                case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP:
                    scrollView.requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent(false);
                    break;
            }
            return false;
        }
    });

Note that if you have editing access to the website loaded into the iframe, you can use postMessage (also see the browser compatibility)

How can I obtain the element-wise logical NOT of a pandas Series?

@unutbu's answer is spot on, just wanted to add a warning that your mask needs to be dtype bool, not 'object'. Ie your mask can't have ever had any nan's. See here - even if your mask is nan-free now, it will remain 'object' type.

The inverse of an 'object' series won't throw an error, instead you'll get a garbage mask of ints that won't work as you expect.

In[1]: df = pd.DataFrame({'A':[True, False, np.nan], 'B':[True, False, True]})
In[2]: df.dropna(inplace=True)
In[3]: df['A']
Out[3]:
0    True
1   False
Name: A, dtype object
In[4]: ~df['A']
Out[4]:
0   -2
0   -1
Name: A, dtype object

After speaking with colleagues about this one I have an explanation: It looks like pandas is reverting to the bitwise operator:

In [1]: ~True
Out[1]: -2

As @geher says, you can convert it to bool with astype before you inverse with ~

~df['A'].astype(bool)
0    False
1     True
Name: A, dtype: bool
(~df['A']).astype(bool)
0    True
1    True
Name: A, dtype: bool

Doctrine findBy 'does not equal'

I solved this rather easily (without adding a method) so i'll share:

use Doctrine\Common\Collections\Criteria;

$repository->matching( Criteria::create()->where( Criteria::expr()->neq('id', 1) ) );

By the way, i'm using the Doctrine ORM module from within Zend Framework 2 and i'm not sure whether this would be compatible in any other case.

In my case, i was using a form element configuration like this: to show all roles except "guest" in a radio button array.

$this->add(array(
    'type' => 'DoctrineModule\Form\Element\ObjectRadio',
        'name' => 'roles',
        'options' => array(
            'label' => _('Roles'),
            'object_manager' => $this->getEntityManager(),
            'target_class'   => 'Application\Entity\Role',
            'property' => 'roleId',
            'find_method'    => array(
                'name'   => 'matching',
                'params' => array(
                    'criteria' => Criteria::create()->where(
                        Criteria::expr()->neq('roleId', 'guest')
                ),
            ),
        ),
    ),
));

How to use cURL to send Cookies?

I'm using Debian, and I was unable to use tilde for the path. Originally I was using

curl -c "~/cookie" http://localhost:5000/login -d username=myname password=mypassword

I had to change this to:

curl -c "/tmp/cookie" http://localhost:5000/login -d username=myname password=mypassword

-c creates the cookie, -b uses the cookie

so then I'd use for instance:

curl -b "/tmp/cookie" http://localhost:5000/getData

What is a simple C or C++ TCP server and client example?

If the code should be simple, then you probably asking for C example based on traditional BSD sockets. Solutions like boost::asio are imho quite complicated when it comes to short and simple "hello world" example.

To compile examples you mentioned you must make simple fixes, because you are compiling under C++ compiler. I'm referring to following files:
http://www.linuxhowtos.org/data/6/server.c
http://www.linuxhowtos.org/data/6/client.c
from: http://www.linuxhowtos.org/C_C++/socket.htm

  1. Add following includes to both files:

    #include <cstdlib>
    #include <cstring>
    #include <unistd.h>

  2. In client.c, change the line:

    if (connect(sockfd,&serv_addr,sizeof(serv_addr)) < 0)
    { ... }

    to:

    if (connect(sockfd,(const sockaddr*)&serv_addr,sizeof(serv_addr)) < 0)
    { ... }

As you can see in C++ an explicit cast is needed.

How can prepared statements protect from SQL injection attacks?

In SQL Server, using a prepared statement is definitely injection-proof because the input parameters don't form the query. It means that the executed query is not a dynamic query. Example of an SQL injection vulnerable statement.

string sqlquery = "select * from table where username='" + inputusername +"' and password='" + pass + "'";

Now if the value in the inoutusername variable is something like a' or 1=1 --, this query now becomes:

select * from table where username='a' or 1=1 -- and password=asda

And the rest is commented after --, so it never gets executed and bypassed as using the prepared statement example as below.

Sqlcommand command = new sqlcommand("select * from table where username = @userinput and password=@pass");
command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@userinput", 100));
command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@pass", 100));
command.prepare();

So in effect you cannot send another parameter in, thus avoiding SQL injection...

Select first row in each GROUP BY group?

This is common problem, which already has well tested and highly optimized solutions. Personally I prefer the left join solution by Bill Karwin (the original post with lots of other solutions).

Note that bunch of solutions to this common problem can surprisingly be found in the one of most official sources, MySQL manual! See Examples of Common Queries :: The Rows Holding the Group-wise Maximum of a Certain Column.

Set content of HTML <span> with Javascript

This is standards compliant and cross-browser safe.

Example: http://jsfiddle.net/kv9pw/

var span = document.getElementById('someID');

while( span.firstChild ) {
    span.removeChild( span.firstChild );
}
span.appendChild( document.createTextNode("some new content") );

Array initialization syntax when not in a declaration

I'll try to answer the why question: The Java array is very simple and rudimentary compared to classes like ArrayList, that are more dynamic. Java wants to know at declaration time how much memory should be allocated for the array. An ArrayList is much more dynamic and the size of it can vary over time.

If you initialize your array with the length of two, and later on it turns out you need a length of three, you have to throw away what you've got, and create a whole new array. Therefore the 'new' keyword.

In your first two examples, you tell at declaration time how much memory to allocate. In your third example, the array name becomes a pointer to nothing at all, and therefore, when it's initialized, you have to explicitly create a new array to allocate the right amount of memory.

I would say that (and if someone knows better, please correct me) the first example

AClass[] array = {object1, object2}

actually means

AClass[] array = new AClass[]{object1, object2};

but what the Java designers did, was to make quicker way to write it if you create the array at declaration time.

The suggested workarounds are good. If the time or memory usage is critical at runtime, use arrays. If it's not critical, and you want code that is easier to understand and to work with, use ArrayList.

Netbeans how to set command line arguments in Java

  1. Create the Java code that can receive an argument as a command line argument.

    class TestCode{
        public static void main(String args[]){
            System.out.println("first argument is: "+args[0]);
        }
    }

  2. Run the program without arguments (press F6).

  3. In the Output window, at the bottom, click the double yellow arrow (or the yellow button) to open a Run dialog.

  4. If the argument you need to pass is testArgument, then here in this window pass the argument as application.args=testArgument.

This will give the output as follows in the same Output window:

first argument is: testArgument

For Maven, the instructions are similar, but change the exec.args property instead:

exec.args=-classpath %classpath package.ClassName PARAM1 PARAM2 PARAM3

Note: Use single quotes for string parameters that contain spaces.

SQL Query - SUM(CASE WHEN x THEN 1 ELSE 0) for multiple columns

I would change the query in the following ways:

  1. Do the aggregation in subqueries. This can take advantage of more information about the table for optimizing the group by.
  2. Combine the second and third subqueries. They are aggregating on the same column. This requires using a left outer join to ensure that all data is available.
  3. By using count(<fieldname>) you can eliminate the comparisons to is null. This is important for the second and third calculated values.
  4. To combine the second and third queries, it needs to count an id from the mde table. These use mde.mdeid.

The following version follows your example by using union all:

SELECT CAST(Detail.ReceiptDate AS DATE) AS "Date",
       SUM(TOTALMAILED) as TotalMailed,
       SUM(TOTALUNDELINOTICESRECEIVED) as TOTALUNDELINOTICESRECEIVED,
       SUM(TRACEUNDELNOTICESRECEIVED) as TRACEUNDELNOTICESRECEIVED
FROM ((select SentDate AS "ReceiptDate", COUNT(*) as TotalMailed,
              NULL as TOTALUNDELINOTICESRECEIVED, NULL as TRACEUNDELNOTICESRECEIVED
       from MailDataExtract
       where SentDate is not null
       group by SentDate
      ) union all
      (select MDE.ReturnMailDate AS ReceiptDate, 0,
              COUNT(distinct mde.mdeid) as TOTALUNDELINOTICESRECEIVED,
              SUM(case when sd.ReturnMailTypeId = 1 then 1 else 0 end) as TRACEUNDELNOTICESRECEIVED
       from MailDataExtract MDE left outer join
            DTSharedData.dbo.ScanData SD
            ON SD.ScanDataID = MDE.ReturnScanDataID
       group by MDE.ReturnMailDate;
      )
     ) detail
GROUP BY CAST(Detail.ReceiptDate AS DATE)
ORDER BY 1;

The following does something similar using full outer join:

SELECT coalesce(sd.ReceiptDate, mde.ReceiptDate) AS "Date",
       sd.TotalMailed, mde.TOTALUNDELINOTICESRECEIVED,
       mde.TRACEUNDELNOTICESRECEIVED
FROM (select cast(SentDate as date) AS "ReceiptDate", COUNT(*) as TotalMailed
      from MailDataExtract
      where SentDate is not null
      group by cast(SentDate as date)
     ) sd full outer join
    (select cast(MDE.ReturnMailDate as date) AS ReceiptDate,
            COUNT(distinct mde.mdeID) as TOTALUNDELINOTICESRECEIVED,
            SUM(case when sd.ReturnMailTypeId = 1 then 1 else 0 end) as TRACEUNDELNOTICESRECEIVED
     from MailDataExtract MDE left outer join
          DTSharedData.dbo.ScanData SD
          ON SD.ScanDataID = MDE.ReturnScanDataID
     group by cast(MDE.ReturnMailDate as date)
    ) mde
    on sd.ReceiptDate = mde.ReceiptDate
ORDER BY 1;

"break;" out of "if" statement?

I think the question is a little bit fuzzy - for example, it can be interpreted as a question about best practices in programming loops with if inside. So, I'll try to answer this question with this particular interpretation.

If you have if inside a loop, then in most cases you'd like to know how the loop has ended - was it "broken" by the if or was it ended "naturally"? So, your sample code can be modified in this way:

bool intMaxFound = false;
for (size = 0; size < HAY_MAX; size++)
{
  // wait for hay until EOF
  printf("\nhaystack[%d] = ", size);
  int straw = GetInt();
  if (straw == INT_MAX)
     {intMaxFound = true; break;}

  // add hay to stack
  haystack[size] = straw;
}
if (intMaxFound)
{
  // ... broken
}
else
{
  // ... ended naturally
}

The problem with this code is that the if statement is buried inside the loop body, and it takes some effort to locate it and understand what it does. A more clear (even without the break statement) variant will be:

bool intMaxFound = false;
for (size = 0; size < HAY_MAX && !intMaxFound; size++)
{
  // wait for hay until EOF
  printf("\nhaystack[%d] = ", size);
  int straw = GetInt();
  if (straw == INT_MAX)
     {intMaxFound = true; continue;}

  // add hay to stack
  haystack[size] = straw;
}
if (intMaxFound)
{
  // ... broken
}
else
{
  // ... ended naturally
}

In this case you can clearly see (just looking at the loop "header") that this loop can end prematurely. If the loop body is a multi-page text, written by somebody else, then you'd thank its author for saving your time.

UPDATE:

Thanks to SO - it has just suggested the already answered question about crash of the AT&T phone network in 1990. It's about a risky decision of C creators to use a single reserved word break to exit from both loops and switch.

Anyway this interpretation doesn't follow from the sample code in the original question, so I'm leaving my answer as it is.

Missing .map resource?

jQuery recently started using source maps.

For example, let's look at the minified jQuery 2.0.3 file's first few lines.

/*! jQuery v2.0.3 | (c) 2005, 2013 jQuery Foundation, Inc. | jquery.org/license
//@ sourceMappingURL=jquery.min.map
*/

Excerpt from Introduction to JavaScript Source Maps:

Have you ever found yourself wishing you could keep your client-side code readable and more importantly debuggable even after you've combined and minified it, without impacting performance? Well now you can through the magic of source maps.

Basically it's a way to map a combined/minified file back to an unbuilt state. When you build for production, along with minifying and combining your JavaScript files, you generate a source map which holds information about your original files. When you query a certain line and column number in your generated JavaScript you can do a lookup in the source map which returns the original location. Developer tools (currently WebKit nightly builds, Google Chrome, or Firefox 23+) can parse the source map automatically and make it appear as though you're running unminified and uncombined files.

emphasis mine

It's incredibly useful, and will only download if the user opens dev tools.

Solution

Remove the source mapping line, or do nothing. It isn't really a problem.

Side note: your server should return 404, not 500. It could point to a security problem if this happens in production.

Removing Spaces from a String in C?

As we can see from the answers posted, this is surprisingly not a trivial task. When faced with a task like this, it would seem that many programmers choose to throw common sense out the window, in order to produce the most obscure snippet they possibly can come up with.

Things to consider:

  • You will want to make a copy of the string, with spaces removed. Modifying the passed string is bad practice, it may be a string literal. Also, there are sometimes benefits of treating strings as immutable objects.
  • You cannot assume that the source string is not empty. It may contain nothing but a single null termination character.
  • The destination buffer can contain any uninitialized garbage when the function is called. Checking it for null termination doesn't make any sense.
  • Source code documentation should state that the destination buffer needs to be large enough to contain the trimmed string. Easiest way to do so is to make it as large as the untrimmed string.
  • The destination buffer needs to hold a null terminated string with no spaces when the function is done.
  • Consider if you wish to remove all white space characters or just spaces ' '.
  • C programming isn't a competition over who can squeeze in as many operators on a single line as possible. It is rather the opposite, a good C program contains readable code (always the single-most important quality) without sacrificing program efficiency (somewhat important).
  • For this reason, you get no bonus points for hiding the insertion of null termination of the destination string, by letting it be part of the copying code. Instead, make the null termination insertion explicit, to show that you haven't just managed to get it right by accident.

What I would do:

void remove_spaces (char* restrict str_trimmed, const char* restrict str_untrimmed)
{
  while (*str_untrimmed != '\0')
  {
    if(!isspace(*str_untrimmed))
    {
      *str_trimmed = *str_untrimmed;
      str_trimmed++;
    }
    str_untrimmed++;
  }
  *str_trimmed = '\0';
}

In this code, the source string "str_untrimmed" is left untouched, which is guaranteed by using proper const correctness. It does not crash if the source string contains nothing but a null termination. It always null terminates the destination string.

Memory allocation is left to the caller. The algorithm should only focus on doing its intended work. It removes all white spaces.

There are no subtle tricks in the code. It does not try to squeeze in as many operators as possible on a single line. It will make a very poor candidate for the IOCCC. Yet it will yield pretty much the same machine code as the more obscure one-liner versions.

When copying something, you can however optimize a bit by declaring both pointers as restrict, which is a contract between the programmer and the compiler, where the programmer guarantees that the destination and source are not the same address (or rather, that the data they point to are only accessed through that very pointer and not through some other pointer). This allows more efficient optimization, since the compiler can then copy straight from source to destination without temporary memory in between.

std::queue<myclass*> my_queue; will do the job.

How to handle the click event in Listview in android?

ListView has the Item click listener callback. You should set the onItemClickListener in the ListView. Callback contains AdapterView and position as parameter. Which can give you the ListEntry.

lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position,
                    long id) {
                ListEntry entry= (ListEntry) parent.getAdapter().getItem(position);
                Intent intent = new Intent(MainActivity.this, SendMessage.class);
                String message = entry.getMessage();
                intent.putExtra(EXTRA_MESSAGE, message);
                startActivity(intent);
            }
        });

Android Viewpager as Image Slide Gallery

In Jake's ViewPageIndicator he has implemented View pager to display a String array (i.e. ["this","is","a","text"]) which you pass from YourAdapter.java (that extends FragmentPagerAdapter) to the YourFragment.java which returns a View to the viewpager.

In order to display something different, you simply have to change the context type your passing. In this case you want to pass images instead of text, as shown in the sample below:

This is how you setup your Viewpager:

public class PlaceDetailsFragment extends SherlockFragment {
    PlaceSlidesFragmentAdapter mAdapter;
    ViewPager mPager;
    PageIndicator mIndicator;

    public static final String TAG = "detailsFragment";

    @Override
    public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
            Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_place_details,
                container, false);

        mAdapter = new PlaceSlidesFragmentAdapter(getActivity()
                .getSupportFragmentManager());

        mPager = (ViewPager) view.findViewById(R.id.pager);
        mPager.setAdapter(mAdapter);

        mIndicator = (CirclePageIndicator) view.findViewById(R.id.indicator);
        mIndicator.setViewPager(mPager);
        ((CirclePageIndicator) mIndicator).setSnap(true);

        mIndicator
                .setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener() {
                    @Override
                    public void onPageSelected(int position) {
                        Toast.makeText(PlaceDetailsFragment.this.getActivity(),
                                "Changed to page " + position,
                                Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                    }

                    @Override
                    public void onPageScrolled(int position,
                            float positionOffset, int positionOffsetPixels) {
                    }

                    @Override
                    public void onPageScrollStateChanged(int state) {
                    }
                });
        return view;
    }

    }

    @Override
    public int getIconResId(int index) {
        return ICONS[index % ICONS.length];
    }

    public void setCount(int count) {
        if (count > 0 && count <= 10) {
            mCount = count;

    public PlaceSlideFragment(int i) {
        imageResourceId = i;
    }

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

    }

    @Override
    public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
            Bundle savedInstanceState) {

        ImageView image = new ImageView(getActivity());
        image.setImageResource(imageResourceId);

        LinearLayout layout = new LinearLayout(getActivity());
        layout.setLayoutParams(new LayoutParams());

        layout.setGravity(Gravity.CENTER);
        layout.addView(image);

        return layout;
    }
}

You should get a View pager like this from the above code. enter image description here

Multiple Cursors in Sublime Text 2 Windows

Mac Users, let me save you the time:

  • Cmd+a: select the lines you want a cursor
  • Cmd+Shift+l: to create the cursor

JS how to cache a variable

You could possibly create a cookie if thats allowed in your requirment. If you choose to take the cookie route then the solution could be as follows. Also the benefit with cookie is after the user closes the Browser and Re-opens, if the cookie has not been deleted the value will be persisted.

Cookie *Create and Store a Cookie:*

function setCookie(c_name,value,exdays)
{
var exdate=new Date();
exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + exdays);
var c_value=escape(value) + ((exdays==null) ? "" : "; expires="+exdate.toUTCString());
document.cookie=c_name + "=" + c_value;
}

The function which will return the specified cookie:

function getCookie(c_name)
{
var i,x,y,ARRcookies=document.cookie.split(";");
for (i=0;i<ARRcookies.length;i++)
{
  x=ARRcookies[i].substr(0,ARRcookies[i].indexOf("="));
  y=ARRcookies[i].substr(ARRcookies[i].indexOf("=")+1);
  x=x.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,"");
  if (x==c_name)
    {
    return unescape(y);
    }
  }
}

Display a welcome message if the cookie is set

function checkCookie()
{
var username=getCookie("username");
  if (username!=null && username!="")
  {
  alert("Welcome again " + username);
  }
else
  {
  username=prompt("Please enter your name:","");
  if (username!=null && username!="")
    {
    setCookie("username",username,365);
    }
  }
}

The above solution is saving the value through cookies. Its a pretty standard way without storing the value on the server side.

Jquery

Set a value to the session storage.

Javascript:

$.sessionStorage( 'foo', {data:'bar'} );

Retrieve the value:

$.sessionStorage( 'foo', {data:'bar'} );

$.sessionStorage( 'foo' );Results:
{data:'bar'}

Local Storage Now lets take a look at Local storage. Lets say for example you have an array of variables that you are wanting to persist. You could do as follows:

var names=[];
names[0]=prompt("New name?");
localStorage['names']=JSON.stringify(names);

//...
var storedNames=JSON.parse(localStorage['names']);

Server Side Example using ASP.NET

Adding to Sesion

Session["FirstName"] = FirstNameTextBox.Text;
Session["LastName"] = LastNameTextBox.Text;

// When retrieving an object from session state, cast it to // the appropriate type.

ArrayList stockPicks = (ArrayList)Session["StockPicks"];

// Write the modified stock picks list back to session state.
Session["StockPicks"] = stockPicks;

I hope that answered your question.

Passing an Object from an Activity to a Fragment

Passing arguments by bundle is restricted to some data types. But you can transfer any data to your fragment this way:

In your fragment create a public method like this

public void passData(Context context, List<LexItem> list, int pos) {
    mContext = context;
    mLexItemList = list;
    mIndex = pos;
}

and in your activity call passData() with all your needed data types after instantiating the fragment

        WebViewFragment myFragment = new WebViewFragment();
        myFragment.passData(getApplicationContext(), mLexItemList, index);
        FragmentManager fm = getSupportFragmentManager();
        FragmentTransaction ft = fm.beginTransaction();
        ft.add(R.id.my_fragment_container, myFragment);
        ft.addToBackStack(null);
        ft.commit();

Remark: My fragment extends "android.support.v4.app.Fragment", therefore I have to use "getSupportFragmentManager()". Of course, this principle will work also with a fragment class extending "Fragment", but then you have to use "getFragmentManager()".

Adding an onclick event to a div element

Its possible, we can specify onclick event in

    <title>Title</title>
</head>
<body>

<div id="rad1" style="height:250px; width:100%;background-color:red;" onclick="fun2('thumb0')">hello world</div>????????????????????????????????
<script>
function fun1(i) {
    document.getElementById(i).style.visibility='hidden';
}
function fun2(i) {
    document.getElementById(i).style.visibility='hidden';
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

The above code assumes that the given element has both of those classes; otherwise, if the space is meant to imply an ancestor-descendant relationship:

document.querySelector('.rateRecipe .btns-one-small').click();

The method getElementsByClassName() takes a single class-name (rather than document.querySelector()/document.querySelectorAll(), which take a CSS selector), and you passed two (presumably class-names) to the method.

How to tell git to use the correct identity (name and email) for a given project?

I very like the way of Micah Henning in his article (see Setting Up Git Identities) on this subject. The fact that he apply and force the identity to each repository created/cloned is a good way not to forget to set this up each time.

Basic git configuration

Unset current user config in git:

$ git config --global --unset user.name
$ git config --global --unset user.email
$ git config --global --unset user.signingkey

Force identity configuration on each new local repository:

$ git config --global user.useConfigOnly true

Create Git alias for identity command, we will use later:

$ git config --global alias.identity '! git config user.name "$(git config user.$1.name)"; git config user.email "$(git config user.$1.email)"; git config user.signingkey "$(git config user.$1.signingkey)"; :'

Identities creation

Create an identity with GPG (use gpg or gpg2 depending on what you got on your system). Repeat next steps for each identities you want to use.

Note: [keyid] here is the identifier of created secret key. Example here:

sec   rsa4096/8A5C011E4CE081A5 2020-06-09 [SC] [expires: 2021-06-09]
      CCC470AE787C057557F421488C4C951E4CE081A5
uid                 [ultimate] Your Name <youremail@domain>
ssb   rsa4096/1EA965889861C1C0 2020-06-09 [E] [expires: 2021-06-09]

The 8A5C011E4CE081A5 part after sec rsa4096/ is the identifier of key.

$ gpg --full-gen-key
$ gpg --list-secret-keys --keyid-format LONG <youremail@domain>
$ gpg --armor --export [keyid]

Copy the public key block and add it to your GitHub/GitProviderOfChoice settings as a GPG key.

Add identity to Git config. Also repeat this for each identity you want to add:

Note: here I use gitlab to name my identity, but from your question it can be anything, ex: gitolite or github, work, etc.

$ git config --global user.gitlab.name "Your Name"
$ git config --global user.gitlab.email "youremail@domain"
$ git config --global user.gitlab.signingkey [keyid]

Setup identity for a repository

If a new repo has no identity associated, an error will appear on commit, reminding you to set it.

*** Please tell me who you are.

## parts of message skipped ##

fatal: no email was given and auto-detection is disabled

Specify the identity you want on a new repository:

$ git identity gitlab

You're now ready to commit with the gitlab identity.

Call an angular function inside html

Yep, just add parenthesis (calling the function). Make sure the function is in scope and actually returns something.

<ul class="ui-listview ui-radiobutton" ng-repeat="meter in meters">
  <li class = "ui-divider">
    {{ meter.DESCRIPTION }}
    {{ htmlgeneration() }}
  </li>
</ul>

Undoing accidental git stash pop

If your merge was not too complicated another option would be to:

  1. Move all the changes including the merge changes back to stash using "git stash"
  2. Run the merge again and commit your changes (without the changes from the dropped stash)
  3. Run a "git stash pop" which should ignore all the changes from your previous merge since the files are identical now.

After that you are left with only the changes from the stash you dropped too early.

Meaning of delta or epsilon argument of assertEquals for double values

I just want to mention the great AssertJ library. It's my go to assertion library for JUnit 4 and 5 and also solves this problem elegantly:

assertThat(actual).isCloseTo(expectedDouble, within(delta))

How to remove default chrome style for select Input?

How to make an Asynchronous Method return a value?

Probably the simplest way to do it is to create a delegate and then BeginInvoke, followed by a wait at some time in the future, and an EndInvoke.

public bool Foo(){
    Thread.Sleep(100000); // Do work
    return true;
}

public SomeMethod()
{
    var fooCaller = new Func<bool>(Foo);
    // Call the method asynchronously
    var asyncResult = fooCaller.BeginInvoke(null, null);

    // Potentially do other work while the asynchronous method is executing.

    // Finally, wait for result
    asyncResult.AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne();
    bool fooResult = fooCaller.EndInvoke(asyncResult);

    Console.WriteLine("Foo returned {0}", fooResult);
}

How to get first and last day of the current week in JavaScript

The excellent (and immutable) date-fns library handles this most concisely:

const start = startOfWeek(date);
const end = endOfWeek(date);

Default start day of the week is Sunday (0), but it can be changed to Monday (1) like this:

const start = startOfWeek(date, {weekStartsOn: 1});
const end = endOfWeek(date, {weekStartsOn: 1});

Running two projects at once in Visual Studio

Max has the best solution for when you always want to start both projects, but you can also right click a project and choose menu Debug ? Start New Instance.

This is an option when you only occasionally need to start the second project or when you need to delay the start of the second project (maybe the server needs to get up and running before the client tries to connect, or something).

How to deserialize xml to object

Your classes should look like this

[XmlRoot("StepList")]
public class StepList
{
    [XmlElement("Step")]
    public List<Step> Steps { get; set; }
}

public class Step
{
    [XmlElement("Name")]
    public string Name { get; set; }
    [XmlElement("Desc")]
    public string Desc { get; set; }
}

Here is my testcode.

string testData = @"<StepList>
                        <Step>
                            <Name>Name1</Name>
                            <Desc>Desc1</Desc>
                        </Step>
                        <Step>
                            <Name>Name2</Name>
                            <Desc>Desc2</Desc>
                        </Step>
                    </StepList>";

XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(StepList));
using (TextReader reader = new StringReader(testData))
{
    StepList result = (StepList) serializer.Deserialize(reader);
}

If you want to read a text file you should load the file into a FileStream and deserialize this.

using (FileStream fileStream = new FileStream("<PathToYourFile>", FileMode.Open))
{
    StepList result = (StepList) serializer.Deserialize(fileStream);
}

How to extract 1 screenshot for a video with ffmpeg at a given time?

Use the -ss option:

ffmpeg -ss 01:23:45 -i input -vframes 1 -q:v 2 output.jpg
  • For JPEG output use -q:v to control output quality. Full range is a linear scale of 1-31 where a lower value results in a higher quality. 2-5 is a good range to try.

  • The select filter provides an alternative method for more complex needs such as selecting only certain frame types, or 1 per 100, etc.

  • Placing -ss before the input will be faster. See FFmpeg Wiki: Seeking and this excerpt from the ffmpeg cli tool documentation:

-ss position (input/output)

When used as an input option (before -i), seeks in this input file to position. Note the in most formats it is not possible to seek exactly, so ffmpeg will seek to the closest seek point before position. When transcoding and -accurate_seek is enabled (the default), this extra segment between the seek point and position will be decoded and discarded. When doing stream copy or when -noaccurate_seek is used, it will be preserved.

When used as an output option (before an output filename), decodes but discards input until the timestamps reach position.

position may be either in seconds or in hh:mm:ss[.xxx] form.

How to generate a Makefile with source in sub-directories using just one makefile

Here is my solution, inspired from Beta's answer. It's simpler than the other proposed solutions

I have a project with several C files, stored in many subdirectories. For example:

src/lib.c
src/aa/a1.c
src/aa/a2.c
src/bb/b1.c
src/cc/c1.c

Here is my Makefile (in the src/ directory):

# make -> compile the shared library "libfoo.so"
# make clean -> remove the library file and all object files (.o)
# make all -> clean and compile
SONAME  = libfoo.so
SRC     = lib.c   \
          aa/a1.c \
          aa/a2.c \
          bb/b1.c \
          cc/c1.c
# compilation options
CFLAGS  = -O2 -g -W -Wall -Wno-unused-parameter -Wbad-function-cast -fPIC
# linking options
LDFLAGS = -shared -Wl,-soname,$(SONAME)

# how to compile individual object files
OBJS    = $(SRC:.c=.o)
.c.o:
    $(CC) $(CFLAGS) -c $< -o $@

.PHONY: all clean

# library compilation
$(SONAME): $(OBJS) $(SRC)
    $(CC) $(OBJS) $(LDFLAGS) -o $(SONAME)

# cleaning rule
clean:
    rm -f $(OBJS) $(SONAME) *~

# additional rule
all: clean lib

This example works fine for a shared library, and it should be very easy to adapt for any compilation process.

multiple plot in one figure in Python

EDIT: I just realised after reading your question again, that i did not answer your question. You want to enter multiple lines in the same plot. However, I'll leave it be, because this served me very well multiple times. I hope you find usefull someday

I found this a while back when learning python

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.gridspec as gridspec

fig = plt.figure()
# create figure window

gs = gridspec.GridSpec(a, b)
# Creates grid 'gs' of a rows and b columns

ax = plt.subplot(gs[x, y])
# Adds subplot 'ax' in grid 'gs' at position [x,y]

ax.set_ylabel('Foo') #Add y-axis label 'Foo' to graph 'ax' (xlabel for x-axis)

fig.add_subplot(ax) #add 'ax' to figure

you can make different sizes in one figure as well, use slices in that case:

 gs = gridspec.GridSpec(3, 3)
 ax1 = plt.subplot(gs[0,:]) # row 0 (top) spans all(3) columns

consult the docs for more help and examples. This little bit i typed up for myself once, and is very much based/copied from the docs as well. Hope it helps... I remember it being a pain in the #$% to get acquainted with the slice notation for the different sized plots in one figure. After that i think it's very simple :)

Module AppRegistry is not registered callable module (calling runApplication)

How to set the action for a UIBarButtonItem in Swift

May this one help a little more

Let suppose if you want to make the bar button in a separate file(for modular approach) and want to give selector back to your viewcontroller, you can do like this :-

your Utility File

class GeneralUtility {

    class func customeNavigationBar(viewController: UIViewController,title:String){
        let add = UIBarButtonItem(title: "Play", style: .plain, target: viewController, action: #selector(SuperViewController.buttonClicked(sender:)));
      viewController.navigationController?.navigationBar.topItem?.rightBarButtonItems = [add];
    }
}

Then make a SuperviewController class and define the same function on it.

class SuperViewController: UIViewController {

    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()
            // Do any additional setup after loading the view.
    }
    @objc func buttonClicked(sender: UIBarButtonItem) {

    }
}

and In our base viewController(which inherit your SuperviewController class) override the same function

import UIKit

class HomeViewController: SuperViewController {

    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()

        // Do any additional setup after loading the view.
    }

    override func viewWillAppear(_ animated: Bool) {
        GeneralUtility.customeNavigationBar(viewController: self,title:"Event");
    }

    @objc override func buttonClicked(sender: UIBarButtonItem) {
      print("button clicked")
    }
}

Now just inherit the SuperViewController in whichever class you want this barbutton.

Generating random numbers in Objective-C

This will give you a floating point number between 0 and 47

float low_bound = 0;
float high_bound = 47;
float rndValue = (((float)arc4random()/0x100000000)*(high_bound-low_bound)+low_bound);

Or just simply

float rndValue = (((float)arc4random()/0x100000000)*47);

Both lower and upper bound can be negative as well. The example code below gives you a random number between -35.76 and +12.09

float low_bound = -35.76;
float high_bound = 12.09;
float rndValue = (((float)arc4random()/0x100000000)*(high_bound-low_bound)+low_bound);

Convert result to a rounder Integer value:

int intRndValue = (int)(rndValue + 0.5);

MySQL joins and COUNT(*) from another table

Maybe I am off the mark here and not understanding the OP but why are you joining tables?

If you have a table with members and this table has a column named "group_id", you can just run a query on the members table to get a count of the members grouped by the group_id.

SELECT group_id, COUNT(*) as membercount
FROM members
GROUP BY group_id
HAVING membercount > 4

This should have the least overhead simply because you are avoiding a join but should still give you what you wanted.

If you want the group details and description etc, then add a join from the members table back to the groups table to retrieve the name would give you the quickest result.

Simple CSS: Text won't center in a button

The problem is that buttons render differently across browsers. In Firefox, 24px is sufficient to cover the default padding and space allowed for your "A" character and center it. In IE and Chrome, it does not, so it defaults to the minimum value needed to cover the left padding and the text without cutting it off, but without adding any additional width to the button.

You can either increase the width, or as suggested above, alter the padding. If you take away the explicit width, it should work too.

How to generate access token using refresh token through google drive API?

If you using Java then follow below code snippet :

GoogleCredential refreshTokenCredential = new GoogleCredential.Builder().setJsonFactory(JSON_FACTORY).setTransport(HTTP_TRANSPORT).setClientSecrets(CLIENT_ID, CLIENT_SECRET).build().setRefreshToken(yourOldToken);
refreshTokenCredential.refreshToken(); //do not forget to call this
String newAccessToken = refreshTokenCredential.getAccessToken();

What is the significance of load factor in HashMap?

Default initial capacity of the HashMap takes is 16 and load factor is 0.75f (i.e 75% of current map size). The load factor represents at what level the HashMap capacity should be doubled.

For example product of capacity and load factor as 16 * 0.75 = 12. This represents that after storing the 12th key – value pair into the HashMap , its capacity becomes 32.

Original Answer (replaced with the above on 4 December 2015)

basically

protected void Application_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
   if (HttpContext.Current.Request.IsSecureConnection.Equals(false) && HttpContext.Current.Request.IsLocal.Equals(false))
   {
    Response.Redirect("https://" + Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_HOST"]
+   HttpContext.Current.Request.RawUrl);
   }
}

that would go in the global.asax.cs (or global.asax.vb)

i dont know of a way to specify it in the web.config

How to sort a list of strings numerically?

may be not the best python, but for string lists like ['1','1.0','2.0','2', '1.1', '1.10', '1.11', '1.2','7','3','5']with the expected target ['1', '1.0', '1.1', '1.2', '1.10', '1.11', '2', '2.0', '3', '5', '7'] helped me...

unsortedList = ['1','1.0','2.0','2', '1.1', '1.10', '1.11', '1.2','7','3','5']

sortDict = {}
sortVal = []

    if len(x) > 1:
        sortVal.append(x[1])
    else:

Use querystring variables in MVC controller

I had this problem while inheriting from ApiController instead of the regular Controller class. I solved it by using var container = Request.GetQueryNameValuePairs().ToLookup(x => x.Key, x => x.Value);

I followed this thread How to get Request Querystring values?

EDIT: After trying to filter through the container I was getting odd error messages. After going to my project properties and I unchecked the Optimize Code checkbox which changed so that all of a sudden the parameters in my controller where filled up from the url as I wanted.

Hopefully this will help someone with the same problem..

libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I presume you're running Linux on an amd64 machine. The Folder your executable is residing in (lib32) suggests a 32-bit executable which requires 32-bit libraries.

These seem not to be present on your system, so you need to install them manually. The package name depends on your distribution, for Debian it's ia32-libs, for Fedora libstdc++.<version>.i686.

Get first word of string

In modern JS, this is simplified, and you can write something like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const firstWords = str =>_x000D_
  str .split (/\|/) .map (s => s .split (/\s+/) [0])_x000D_
_x000D_
const str = "Hello m|sss sss|mmm ss"_x000D_
_x000D_
console .log (firstWords (str))
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

We first split the string on the | and then split each string in the resulting array on any white space, keeping only the first one.

Keyboard shortcut to clear cell output in Jupyter notebook

For versions less than 5:

Option 1 -- quick hack:

Change the cell type to raw then back to code: EscRY will discard the output.

Option 2 -- custom shortcut (without GUI):

For this, you need to edit the custom.js file which is typically located at ~/.jupyter/custom/custom.js (if it doesn't exist, create it).

In there, you have to add

require(['base/js/namespace']) {
    // setup 'ctrl-l' as shortcut for clearing current output
    Jupyter.keyboard_manager.command_shortcuts
           .add_shortcut('ctrl-l', 'jupyter-notebook:clear-cell-output');
}

You can add shortcut there for all the fancy things you like, since the 2nd argument can be a function (docs)

If you want mappings for other standard commands, you can dump a list of all available commands by running the following in your notebook:

from IPython.core.display import Javascript

js = """
  var jc_html = "";
  var jc_array = Object.keys(IPython.notebook.keyboard_manager.command_shortcuts.actions._actions);
  for (var i=0;i<jc_array.length;i++) {
    jc_html = jc_html + jc_array[i] + "<br >";
  }
  element.html(jc_html);
  """

Converting EditText to int? (Android)

C#: Dynamic runtime cast

Try a generic:

public static T CastTo<T>(this dynamic obj, bool safeCast) where T:class
{
   try
   {
      return (T)obj;
   }
   catch
   {
      if(safeCast) return null;
      else throw;
   }
}

This is in extension method format, so its usage would be as if it were a member of dynamic objects:

dynamic myDynamic = new Something();
var typedObject = myDynamic.CastTo<Something>(false);

EDIT: Grr, didn't see that. Yes, you could reflectively close the generic, and it wouldn't be hard to hide in a non-generic extension method:

public static dynamic DynamicCastTo(this dynamic obj, Type castTo, bool safeCast)
{
   MethodInfo castMethod = this.GetType().GetMethod("CastTo").MakeGenericMethod(castTo);
   return castMethod.Invoke(null, new object[] { obj, safeCast });
}

I'm just not sure what you'd get out of this. Basically you're taking a dynamic, forcing a cast to a reflected type, then stuffing it back in a dynamic. Maybe you're right, I shouldn't ask. But, this'll probably do what you want. Basically when you go into dynamic-land, you lose the need to perform most casting operations as you can discover what an object is and does through reflective methods or trial and error, so there aren't many elegant ways to do this.

How to downgrade tensorflow, multiple versions possible?

If you are using python3 on windows then you might do this as well

pip3 install tensorflow==1.4

you may select any version from "(from versions: 1.2.0rc2, 1.2.0, 1.2.1, 1.3.0rc0, 1.3.0rc1, 1.3.0rc2, 1.3.0, 1.4.0rc0, 1.4.0rc1, 1.4.0, 1.5.0rc0, 1.5.0rc1, 1.5.0, 1.5.1, 1.6.0rc0, 1.6.0rc1, 1.6.0, 1.7.0rc0, 1.7.0rc1, 1.7.0)"

I did this when I wanted to downgrade from 1.7 to 1.4

GCC -fPIC option

The link to a function in a dynamic library is resolved when the library is loaded or at run time. Therefore, both the executable file and dynamic library are loaded into memory when the program is run. The memory address at which a dynamic library is loaded cannot be determined in advance, because a fixed address might clash with another dynamic library requiring the same address.

There are two commonly used methods for dealing with this problem:

1.Relocation. All pointers and addresses in the code are modified, if necessary, to fit the actual load address. Relocation is done by the linker and the loader.

2.Position-independent code. All addresses in the code are relative to the current position. Shared objects in Unix-like systems use position-independent code by default. This is less efficient than relocation if program run for a long time, especially in 32-bit mode.

The name "position-independent code" actually implies following:

  • The code section contains no absolute addresses that need relocation, but only self relative addresses. Therefore, the code section can be loaded at an arbitrary memory address and shared between multiple processes.

  • The data section is not shared between multiple processes because it often contains writeable data. Therefore, the data section may contain pointers or addresses that need relocation.

  • All public functions and public data can be overridden in Linux. If a function in the main executable has the same name as a function in a shared object, then the version in main will take precedence, not only when called from main, but also when called from the shared object. Likewise, when a global variable in main has the same name as a global variable in the shared object, then the instance in main will be used, even when accessed from the shared object.

This so-called symbol interposition is intended to mimic the behavior of static libraries.

A shared object has a table of pointers to its functions, called procedure linkage table (PLT) and a table of pointers to its variables called global offset table (GOT) in order to implement this "override" feature. All accesses to functions and public variables go through this tables.

p.s. Where dynamic linking cannot be avoided, there are various ways to avoid the timeconsuming features of the position-independent code.

How to detect the swipe left or Right in Android?

I like the code from @user2999943. But just some minor changes for my own purposes.

@Override
public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event)
{
    switch(event.getAction())
    {
      case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN:
          x1 = event.getX();
      break;
      case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP:
          x2 = event.getX();
          float deltaX = x2 - x1;

          if (Math.abs(deltaX) > MIN_DISTANCE)
          {
              // Left to Right swipe action
              if (x2 > x1)
              {
                  Toast.makeText(this, "Left to Right swipe [Next]", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show ();
              }

              // Right to left swipe action
              else
              {
                  Toast.makeText(this, "Right to Left swipe [Previous]", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show ();
              }

          }
          else
          {
              // consider as something else - a screen tap for example
          }
      break;
    }
    return super.onTouchEvent(event);
}

How to count duplicate rows in pandas dataframe?

If you like to count duplicates on particular column(s):

len(df['one'])-len(df['one'].drop_duplicates())

If you want to count duplicates on entire dataframe:

len(df)-len(df.drop_duplicates())

Or simply you can use DataFrame.duplicated(subset=None, keep='first'):

df.duplicated(subset='one', keep='first').sum()

where

subset : column label or sequence of labels(by default use all of the columns)

keep : {‘first’, ‘last’, False}, default ‘first’

  • first : Mark duplicates as True except for the first occurrence.
  • last : Mark duplicates as True except for the last occurrence.
  • False : Mark all duplicates as True.

R dates "origin" must be supplied

So generally this has been solved, but you might get this error message because the date you use is not in the correct format.

I know this is an old post, but whenever I run this I get NA all the way down my date column. My dates are in this format 20150521 – NealC Jun 5 '15 at 16:06

If you have dates of this format just check the format of your dates with:

str(sides$date)

If the format is not a character, then convert it:

as.character(sides$date)

For as.Date, you won't need an origin any longer, because this is supplied for numeric values only. Thus you can use (assuming you have the format of NealC):

as.Date(as.character(sides$date),format="%Y%m%d")

I hope this might help some of you.

Web scraping with Python

I'd really recommend Scrapy.

Quote from a deleted answer:

  • Scrapy crawling is fastest than mechanize because uses asynchronous operations (on top of Twisted).
  • Scrapy has better and fastest support for parsing (x)html on top of libxml2.
  • Scrapy is a mature framework with full unicode, handles redirections, gzipped responses, odd encodings, integrated http cache, etc.
  • Once you are into Scrapy, you can write a spider in less than 5 minutes that download images, creates thumbnails and export the extracted data directly to csv or json.

Drawing in Java using Canvas

Why would the first way not work. Canvas object is created and the size is set and the grahpics are set. I always find this strange. Also if a class extends JComponent you can override the

paintComponent(){
  super...
}

and then shouldn't you be able to create and instance of the class inside of another class and then just call NewlycreateinstanceOfAnyClass.repaint();

I have tried this approach for some game programming I have been working and it doesn't seem to work the way I think that it should be.

Entityframework Join using join method and lambdas

If you have configured navigation property 1-n I would recommend you to use:

var query = db.Categories                                  // source
   .SelectMany(c=>c.CategoryMaps,                          // join
      (c, cm) => new { Category = c, CategoryMaps = cm })  // project result
   .Select(x => x.Category);                               // select result

Much more clearer to me and looks better with multiple nested joins.

Runnable with a parameter?

You could put it in a function.

(When I used this, my parameter was an integer ID, which I used to make a hashmap of ID --> myRunnables. That way, I can use the hashmap to post/remove different myRunnable objects in a handler.)

Converting between datetime, Timestamp and datetime64

I think there could be a more consolidated effort in an answer to better explain the relationship between Python's datetime module, numpy's datetime64/timedelta64 and pandas' Timestamp/Timedelta objects.

The datetime standard library of Python

The datetime standard library has four main objects

  • time - only time, measured in hours, minutes, seconds and microseconds
  • date - only year, month and day
  • datetime - All components of time and date
  • timedelta - An amount of time with maximum unit of days

Create these four objects

>>> import datetime
>>> datetime.time(hour=4, minute=3, second=10, microsecond=7199)
datetime.time(4, 3, 10, 7199)

>>> datetime.date(year=2017, month=10, day=24)
datetime.date(2017, 10, 24)

>>> datetime.datetime(year=2017, month=10, day=24, hour=4, minute=3, second=10, microsecond=7199)
datetime.datetime(2017, 10, 24, 4, 3, 10, 7199)

>>> datetime.timedelta(days=3, minutes = 55)
datetime.timedelta(3, 3300)

>>> # add timedelta to datetime
>>> datetime.timedelta(days=3, minutes = 55) + \
    datetime.datetime(year=2017, month=10, day=24, hour=4, minute=3, second=10, microsecond=7199)
datetime.datetime(2017, 10, 27, 4, 58, 10, 7199)

NumPy's datetime64 and timedelta64 objects

NumPy has no separate date and time objects, just a single datetime64 object to represent a single moment in time. The datetime module's datetime object has microsecond precision (one-millionth of a second). NumPy's datetime64 object allows you to set its precision from hours all the way to attoseconds (10 ^ -18). It's constructor is more flexible and can take a variety of inputs.

Construct NumPy's datetime64 and timedelta64 objects

Pass an integer with a string for the units. See all units here. It gets converted to that many units after the UNIX epoch: Jan 1, 1970

>>> np.datetime64(5, 'ns')
numpy.datetime64('1970-01-01T00:00:00.000000005')

>>> np.datetime64(1508887504, 's')
numpy.datetime64('2017-10-24T23:25:04')

You can also use strings as long as they are in ISO 8601 format.

>>> np.datetime64('2017-10-24')
numpy.datetime64('2017-10-24')

Timedeltas have a single unit

>>> np.timedelta64(5, 'D') # 5 days
>>> np.timedelta64(10, 'h') 10 hours

Can also create them by subtracting two datetime64 objects

>>> np.datetime64('2017-10-24T05:30:45.67') - np.datetime64('2017-10-22T12:35:40.123')
numpy.timedelta64(147305547,'ms')

Pandas Timestamp and Timedelta build much more functionality on top of NumPy

A pandas Timestamp is a moment in time very similar to a datetime but with much more functionality. You can construct them with either pd.Timestamp or pd.to_datetime.

>>> pd.Timestamp(1239.1238934) #defautls to nanoseconds
Timestamp('1970-01-01 00:00:00.000001239')

>>> pd.Timestamp(1239.1238934, unit='D') # change units
Timestamp('1973-05-24 02:58:24.355200')

>>> pd.Timestamp('2017-10-24 05') # partial strings work
Timestamp('2017-10-24 05:00:00')

pd.to_datetime works very similarly (with a few more options) and can convert a list of strings into Timestamps.

>>> pd.to_datetime('2017-10-24 05')
Timestamp('2017-10-24 05:00:00')

>>> pd.to_datetime(['2017-1-1', '2017-1-2'])
DatetimeIndex(['2017-01-01', '2017-01-02'], dtype='datetime64[ns]', freq=None)

Converting Python datetime to datetime64 and Timestamp

>>> dt = datetime.datetime(year=2017, month=10, day=24, hour=4,
                   minute=3, second=10, microsecond=7199)
>>> np.datetime64(dt)
numpy.datetime64('2017-10-24T04:03:10.007199')

>>> pd.Timestamp(dt) # or pd.to_datetime(dt)
Timestamp('2017-10-24 04:03:10.007199')

Converting numpy datetime64 to datetime and Timestamp

>>> dt64 = np.datetime64('2017-10-24 05:34:20.123456')
>>> unix_epoch = np.datetime64(0, 's')
>>> one_second = np.timedelta64(1, 's')
>>> seconds_since_epoch = (dt64 - unix_epoch) / one_second
>>> seconds_since_epoch
1508823260.123456

>>> datetime.datetime.utcfromtimestamp(seconds_since_epoch)
>>> datetime.datetime(2017, 10, 24, 5, 34, 20, 123456)

Convert to Timestamp

>>> pd.Timestamp(dt64)
Timestamp('2017-10-24 05:34:20.123456')

Convert from Timestamp to datetime and datetime64

This is quite easy as pandas timestamps are very powerful

>>> ts = pd.Timestamp('2017-10-24 04:24:33.654321')

>>> ts.to_pydatetime()   # Python's datetime
datetime.datetime(2017, 10, 24, 4, 24, 33, 654321)

>>> ts.to_datetime64()
numpy.datetime64('2017-10-24T04:24:33.654321000')

How to combine two byte arrays

String temp = passwordSalt;
byte[] byteSalt = temp.getBytes();
int start = 32;
for (int i = 0; i < byteData.length; i ++)
{
    byteData[start + i] = byteSalt[i];
}

The problem with your code here is that the variable i that is being used to index the arrays is going past both the byteSalt array and the byteData array. So, Make sure that byteData is dimensioned to be at least the maximum length of the passwordSalt string plus 32. What will correct it is replacing the following line:

for (int i = 0; i < byteData.length; i ++)

with:

for (int i = 0; i < byteSalt.length; i ++)

Show a child form in the centre of Parent form in C#

On the SubLogin Form I would expose a SetLocation method so that you can set it from your parent form:

public class SubLogin : Form
{
   public void SetLocation(Point p)
   {
      this.Location = p;
   }
}

Then, from your main form:

loginForm = new SubLogin();
Point p = //do math to get point
loginForm.SetLocation(p);
loginForm.Show();

add Shadow on UIView using swift 3

If you want to use it as a IBInspectable property for your views you can add this extension

import UIKit

extension UIView {

    private static var _addShadow:Bool = false

    @IBInspectable var addShadow:Bool {
        get {
            return UIView._addShadow
        }
        set(newValue) {
            if(newValue == true){
                layer.masksToBounds = false
                layer.shadowColor = UIColor.black.cgColor
                layer.shadowOpacity = 0.075
                layer.shadowOffset = CGSize(width: 0, height: -3)
                layer.shadowRadius = 1

                layer.shadowPath = UIBezierPath(rect: bounds).cgPath
                layer.shouldRasterize = true
                layer.rasterizationScale =  UIScreen.main.scale
            }
        }
    }

}

Angularjs - Pass argument to directive

<button my-directive="push">Push to Go</button>

app.directive("myDirective", function() {
    return {
        restrict : "A",
         link: function(scope, elm, attrs) {

here is what I did

Populating a razor dropdownlist from a List<object> in MVC

I'm going to approach this as if you have a Users model:

Users.cs

public class Users
{
    [Key]
    public int UserId { get; set; }

    [Required]
    public string UserName { get; set; }

    public int RoleId { get; set; }

    [ForeignKey("RoleId")]
    public virtual DbUserRoles DbUserRoles { get; set; }
}

and a DbUserRoles model that represented a table by that name in the database:

DbUserRoles.cs

public partial class DbUserRoles
{
    [Key]
    public int UserRoleId { get; set; }

    [Required]
    [StringLength(30)]
    public string UserRole { get; set; }
}

Once you had that cleaned up, you should just be able to create and fill a collection of UserRoles, like this, in your Controller:

var userRoleList = GetUserRolesList();
ViewData["userRoles"] = userRolesList;

and have these supporting functions:

private static SelectListItem[] _UserRolesList;

/// <summary>
/// Returns a static category list that is cached
/// </summary>
/// <returns></returns>
public SelectListItem[] GetUserRolesList()
{
    if (_UserRolesList == null)
    {
        var userRoles = repository.GetAllUserRoles().Select(a => new SelectListItem()
         {
             Text = a.UserRole,
             Value = a.UserRoleId.ToString()
         }).ToList();
         userRoles.Insert(0, new SelectListItem() { Value = "0", Text = "-- Please select your user role --" });

        _UserRolesList = userRoles.ToArray();
    }

    // Have to create new instances via projection
    // to avoid ModelBinding updates to affect this
    // globally
    return _UserRolesList
        .Select(d => new SelectListItem()
    {
         Value = d.Value,
         Text = d.Text
    })
     .ToArray();
}

Repository.cs

My Repository function GetAllUserRoles() for the function, above:

public class Repository
{
    Model1 db = new Model1(); // Entity Framework context

    // User Roles
    public IList<DbUserRoles> GetAllUserRoles()
    {
        return db.DbUserRoles.OrderBy(e => e.UserRoleId).ToList();
    }
}

AddNewUser.cshtml

Then do this in your View:

<table>
    <tr>
        <td>
            @Html.EditorFor(model => model.UserName,
                  htmlAttributes: new { @class = "form-control" }
                  )
        </td>
        <td>
            @Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.RoleId,
                  new SelectList( (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["userRoles"], "Value", "Text", model.RoleId),
                  htmlAttributes: new { @class = "form-control" }
                  )
         </td>
     </tr>
 </table>

What does LINQ return when the results are empty

You can also check the .Any() method:

if (!YourResult.Any())

Just a note that .Any will still retrieve the records from the database; doing a .FirstOrDefault()/.Where() will be just as much overhead but you would then be able to catch the object(s) returned from the query

What is the best way to extract the first word from a string in Java?

like this:

final String str = "This is a long sentence";

System.out.println(Arrays.toString(arr));

arr[0] is the first word, arr[1] is the rest

PostgreSQL delete all content

The content of the table/tables in PostgreSQL database can be deleted in several ways.

Deleting table content using sql:

Deleting content of one table:

TRUNCATE table_name;
DELETE FROM table_name;

Deleting content of all named tables:

TRUNCATE table_a, table_b, …, table_z;

Deleting content of named tables and tables that reference to them (I will explain it in more details later in this answer):

TRUNCATE table_a, table_b CASCADE;

Deleting table content using pgAdmin:

Deleting content of one table:

Right click on the table -> Truncate

Deleting content of table and tables that reference to it:

Right click on the table -> Truncate Cascaded

Difference between delete and truncate:

From the documentation:

DELETE deletes rows that satisfy the WHERE clause from the specified table. If the WHERE clause is absent, the effect is to delete all rows in the table. http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.3/static/sql-delete.html

TRUNCATE is a PostgreSQL extension that provides a faster mechanism to remove all rows from a table. TRUNCATE quickly removes all rows from a set of tables. It has the same effect as an unqualified DELETE on each table, but since it does not actually scan the tables it is faster. Furthermore, it reclaims disk space immediately, rather than requiring a subsequent VACUUM operation. This is most useful on large tables. http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.1/static/sql-truncate.html

Working with table that is referenced from other table:

When you have database that has more than one table the tables have probably relationship. As an example there are three tables:

create table customers (
customer_id int not null,
name varchar(20),
surname varchar(30),
constraint pk_customer primary key (customer_id)
);

create table orders (
order_id int not null,
number int not null,
customer_id int not null,
constraint pk_order primary key (order_id),
constraint fk_customer foreign key (customer_id) references customers(customer_id)
);

create table loyalty_cards (
card_id int not null,
card_number varchar(10) not null,
customer_id int not null,
constraint pk_card primary key (card_id),
constraint fk_customer foreign key (customer_id) references customers(customer_id)
);

And some prepared data for these tables:

insert into customers values (1, 'John', 'Smith');

insert into orders values
(10, 1000, 1),
(11, 1009, 1),
(12, 1010, 1);

insert into loyalty_cards values (100, 'A123456789', 1);

Table orders references table customers and table loyalty_cards references table customers. When you try to TRUNCATE / DELETE FROM the table that is referenced by other table/s (the other table/s has foreign key constraint to the named table) you get an error. To delete content from all three tables you have to name all these tables (the order is not important)

TRUNCATE customers, loyalty_cards, orders;

or just the table that is referenced with CASCADE key word (you can name more tables than just one)

TRUNCATE customers CASCADE;

The same applies for pgAdmin. Right click on customers table and choose Truncate Cascaded.

SQL like search string starts with

Aside from using %, age of empires III to lower case is age of empires iii so your query should be:

select *
from games
where lower(title) like 'age of empires iii%'

Python Variable Declaration

Variables have scope, so yes it is appropriate to have variables that are specific to your function. You don't always have to be explicit about their definition; usually you can just use them. Only if you want to do something specific to the type of the variable, like append for a list, do you need to define them before you start using them. Typical example of this.

list = []
for i in stuff:
  list.append(i)

By the way, this is not really a good way to setup the list. It would be better to say:

list = [i for i in stuff] # list comprehension

...but I digress.

Your other question. The custom object should be a class itself.

class CustomObject(): # always capitalize the class name...this is not syntax, just style.
  pass
customObj = CustomObject()

You were getting the error because your parent class's constructor takes a parameter but you are not passing that parameter from the child to the parent.

Constructors are not inherited in C#, you have to chain them manually.

Failed to Connect to MySQL at localhost:3306 with user root

Try to execute below command in your terminal :

mysql -h localhost -P 3306 -u root -p

If you successfully connect to your database, then same thing has to happen with Mysql Workbench.

If you are unable to connect then I think 3306 port is acquired by another process.

Find which process running on 3306 port. If required, give admin privileges using sudo.

netstat -lnp | grep 3306

Kill/stop that process and restart your MySQL server. You are good to go.

Execute below command to find my.cnf file in macbook.

mysql --help | grep cnf

You can change MySQL port to any available port in your system. But after that, make sure you restart MySQL server.

What is the difference between a pandas Series and a single-column DataFrame?

Import cars data

import pandas as pd

cars = pd.read_csv('cars.csv', index_col = 0)

Here is how the cars.csv file looks.

Print out drives_right column as Series:

print(cars.loc[:,"drives_right"])

    US      True
    AUS    False
    JAP    False
    IN     False
    RU      True
    MOR     True
    EG      True
    Name: drives_right, dtype: bool

The single bracket version gives a Pandas Series, the double bracket version gives a Pandas DataFrame.

Print out drives_right column as DataFrame

print(cars.loc[:,["drives_right"]])

         drives_right
    US           True
    AUS         False
    JAP         False
    IN          False
    RU           True
    MOR          True
    EG           True

Adding a Series to another Series creates a DataFrame.

Select top 10 records for each category

I do it this way:

SELECT a.* FROM articles AS a
  LEFT JOIN articles AS a2
    ON a.section = a2.section AND a.article_date <= a2.article_date
GROUP BY a.article_id
HAVING COUNT(*) <= 10;

update: This example of GROUP BY works in MySQL and SQLite only, because those databases are more permissive than standard SQL regarding GROUP BY. Most SQL implementations require that all columns in the select-list that aren't part of an aggregate expression are also in the GROUP BY.

Passing an array as a function parameter in JavaScript

As @KaptajnKold had answered

var x = [ 'p0', 'p1', 'p2' ];
call_me.apply(this, x);

And you don't need to define every parameters for call_me function either. You can just use arguments

function call_me () {
    // arguments is a array consisting of params.
    // arguments[0] == 'p0',
    // arguments[1] == 'p1',
    // arguments[2] == 'p2'
}

JavaScript Loading Screen while page loads

At the beginning of your loading script, just make your

visible through css [display:block;] and make the rest of the page invisible through css[display:none;].

Once the loading is done, just make the loading invisible and the page visible again with the same technique. You can use the document.getElementById() to select the divs you want to change the display.

Edit: Here's what it would sort of look like. When the body finishes loading, it will call the javascript function that will change the display values of the different elements. By default, your style would be to have the page not visible the loading visible.

<head>
    <style>
        #page{
            display: none;
        }
        #loading{
            display: block;
        }
    </style>
    <script>
        function myFunction()
        {
            document.getElementById("page").style.display = "block";
            document.getElementById("loading").style.display = "none";
        }
    </script>
</head>

<body onload="myFunction()">
    <div id="page">

    </div>
    <div id="loading">

    </div>
</body>

What does %>% function mean in R?

My understanding after reading the link offered by G.Grothendieck is that %>% is an operator that pipes functions. This helps readability and productivity as it's easier to follow the flow of multiple functions through these pipes than going backwards when multiple function are nested.

Equivalent of varchar(max) in MySQL?

The max length of a varchar is subject to the max row size in MySQL, which is 64KB (not counting BLOBs):

VARCHAR(65535)

However, note that the limit is lower if you use a multi-byte character set:

VARCHAR(21844) CHARACTER SET utf8

Here are some examples:

The maximum row size is 65535, but a varchar also includes a byte or two to encode the length of a given string. So you actually can't declare a varchar of the maximum row size, even if it's the only column in the table.

mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(65534) );
ERROR 1118 (42000): Row size too large. The maximum row size for the used table type, not counting BLOBs, is 65535. This includes storage overhead, check the manual. You have to change some columns to TEXT or BLOBs

But if we try decreasing lengths, we find the greatest length that works:

mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(65532) );
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)

Now if we try to use a multibyte charset at the table level, we find that it counts each character as multiple bytes. UTF8 strings don't necessarily use multiple bytes per string, but MySQL can't assume you'll restrict all your future inserts to single-byte characters.

mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(65532) ) CHARSET=utf8;
ERROR 1074 (42000): Column length too big for column 'v' (max = 21845); use BLOB or TEXT instead

In spite of what the last error told us, InnoDB still doesn't like a length of 21845.

mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(21845) ) CHARSET=utf8;
ERROR 1118 (42000): Row size too large. The maximum row size for the used table type, not counting BLOBs, is 65535. This includes storage overhead, check the manual. You have to change some columns to TEXT or BLOBs

This makes perfect sense, if you calculate that 21845*3 = 65535, which wouldn't have worked anyway. Whereas 21844*3 = 65532, which does work.

mysql> CREATE TABLE foo ( v VARCHAR(21844) ) CHARSET=utf8;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.32 sec)

How to list all databases in the mongo shell?

tar: file changed as we read it

Although its very late but I recently had the same issue.

Issue is because dir . is changing as xyz.tar.gz is created after running the command. There are two solutions:

Solution 1: tar will not mind if the archive is created in any directory inside .. There can be reasons why can't create the archive outside the work space. Worked around it by creating a temporary directory for putting the archive as:

mkdir artefacts
tar -zcvf artefacts/archive.tar.gz --exclude=./artefacts .
echo $?
0

Solution 2: This one I like. create the archive file before running tar:

touch archive.tar.gz
tar --exclude=archive.tar.gz -zcvf archive.tar.gz .
echo $?
0

Try/catch does not seem to have an effect

Edit: As stated in the comments, the following solution applies to PowerShell V1 only.

See this blog post on "Technical Adventures of Adam Weigert" for details on how to implement this.

Example usage (copy/paste from Adam Weigert's blog):

Try {
    echo " ::Do some work..."
    echo " ::Try divide by zero: $(0/0)"
} -Catch {
    echo " ::Cannot handle the error (will rethrow): $_"
    #throw $_
} -Finally {
    echo " ::Cleanup resources..."
}

Otherwise you'll have to use exception trapping.

Difference between virtual and abstract methods

Virtual methods have an implementation and provide the derived classes with the option of overriding it. Abstract methods do not provide an implementation and force the derived classes to override the method.

So, abstract methods have no actual code in them, and subclasses HAVE TO override the method. Virtual methods can have code, which is usually a default implementation of something, and any subclasses CAN override the method using the override modifier and provide a custom implementation.

public abstract class E
{
    public abstract void AbstractMethod(int i);

    public virtual void VirtualMethod(int i)
    {
        // Default implementation which can be overridden by subclasses.
    }
}

public class D : E
{
    public override void AbstractMethod(int i)
    {
        // You HAVE to override this method
    }
    public override void VirtualMethod(int i)
    {
        // You are allowed to override this method.
    }
}

Implicit type conversion rules in C++ operators

Since the other answers don't talk about the rules in C++11 here's one. From C++11 standard (draft n3337) §5/9 (emphasized the difference):

This pattern is called the usual arithmetic conversions, which are defined as follows:

— If either operand is of scoped enumeration type, no conversions are performed; if the other operand does not have the same type, the expression is ill-formed.

— If either operand is of type long double, the other shall be converted to long double.

— Otherwise, if either operand is double, the other shall be converted to double.

— Otherwise, if either operand is float, the other shall be converted to float.

— Otherwise, the integral promotions shall be performed on both operands. Then the following rules shall be applied to the promoted operands:

— If both operands have the same type, no further conversion is needed.

— Otherwise, if both operands have signed integer types or both have unsigned integer types, the operand with the type of lesser integer conversion rank shall be converted to the type of the operand with greater rank.

— Otherwise, if the operand that has unsigned integer type has rank greater than or equal to the rank of the type of the other operand, the operand with signed integer type shall be converted to the type of the operand with unsigned integer type.

— Otherwise, if the type of the operand with signed integer type can represent all of the values of the type of the operand with unsigned integer type, the operand with unsigned integer type shall be converted to the type of the operand with signed integer type.

— Otherwise, both operands shall be converted to the unsigned integer type corresponding to the type of the operand with signed integer type.

See here for a list that's frequently updated.

Multiple INSERT statements vs. single INSERT with multiple VALUES

I ran into a similar situation trying to convert a table with several 100k rows with a C++ program (MFC/ODBC).

Since this operation took a very long time, I figured bundling multiple inserts into one (up to 1000 due to MSSQL limitations). My guess that a lot of single insert statements would create an overhead similar to what is described here.

However, it turns out that the conversion took actually quite a bit longer:

        Method 1       Method 2     Method 3
        Single Insert Multi Insert Joined Inserts
Rows    1000           1000         1000
Insert  390 ms         765 ms       270 ms
per Row 0.390 ms 0.765 ms 0.27 ms

So, 1000 single calls to CDatabase::ExecuteSql each with a single INSERT statement (method 1) are roughly twice as fast as a single call to CDatabase::ExecuteSql with a multi-line INSERT statement with 1000 value tuples (method 2).

Update: So, the next thing I tried was to bundle 1000 separate INSERT statements into a single string and have the server execute that (method 3). It turns out this is even a bit faster than method 1.

Edit: I am using Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition (64-bit) v10.0.2531.0

How do I clear the content of a div using JavaScript?

Just Javascript (as requested)

Add this function somewhere on your page (preferably in the <head>)

function clearBox(elementID)
{
    document.getElementById(elementID).innerHTML = "";
}

Then add the button on click event:

<button onclick="clearBox('cart_item')" />

In JQuery (for reference)

If you prefer JQuery you could do:

$("#cart_item").html("");

A 'for' loop to iterate over an enum in Java

If you don't care about the order this should work:

Set<Direction> directions = EnumSet.allOf(Direction.class);
for(Direction direction : directions) {
    // do stuff
}

How to filter by IP address in Wireshark?

You can also limit the filter to only part of the ip address.

E.G. To filter 123.*.*.* you can use ip.addr == 123.0.0.0/8. Similar effects can be achieved with /16 and /24.

Difference between volatile and synchronized in Java

synchronized is method level/block level access restriction modifier. It will make sure that one thread owns the lock for critical section. Only the thread,which own a lock can enter synchronized block. If other threads are trying to access this critical section, they have to wait till current owner releases the lock.

volatile is variable access modifier which forces all threads to get latest value of the variable from main memory. No locking is required to access volatile variables. All threads can access volatile variable value at same time.

A good example to use volatile variable : Date variable.

Assume that you have made Date variable volatile. All the threads, which access this variable always get latest data from main memory so that all threads show real (actual) Date value. You don't need different threads showing different time for same variable. All threads should show right Date value.

enter image description here

Have a look at this article for better understanding of volatile concept.

Lawrence Dol cleary explained your read-write-update query.

Regarding your other queries

When is it more suitable to declare variables volatile than access them through synchronized?

You have to use volatile if you think all threads should get actual value of the variable in real time like the example I have explained for Date variable.

Is it a good idea to use volatile for variables that depend on input?

Answer will be same as in first query.

Refer to this article for better understanding.

Ansible: how to get output to display

Every Ansible task when run can save its results into a variable. To do this, you have to specify which variable to save the results into. Do this with the register parameter, independently of the module used.

Once you save the results to a variable you can use it later in any of the subsequent tasks. So for example if you want to get the standard output of a specific task you can write the following:

---
- hosts: localhost
  tasks:
    - shell: ls
      register: shell_result

    - debug:
        var: shell_result.stdout_lines

Here register tells ansible to save the response of the module into the shell_result variable, and then we use the debug module to print the variable out.

An example run would look like the this:

PLAY [localhost] ***************************************************************

TASK [command] *****************************************************************
changed: [localhost]

TASK [debug] *******************************************************************
ok: [localhost] => {
    "shell_result.stdout_lines": [
        "play.yml"
    ]
}

Responses can contain multiple fields. stdout_lines is one of the default fields you can expect from a module's response.

Not all fields are available from all modules, for example for a module which doesn't return anything to the standard out you wouldn't expect anything in the stdout or stdout_lines values, however the msg field might be filled in this case. Also there are some modules where you might find something in a non-standard variable, for these you can try to consult the module's documentation for these non-standard return values.

Alternatively you can increase the verbosity level of ansible-playbook. You can choose between different verbosity levels: -v, -vvv and -vvvv. For example when running the playbook with verbosity (-vvv) you get this:

PLAY [localhost] ***************************************************************

TASK [command] *****************************************************************
(...)
changed: [localhost] => {
    "changed": true,
    "cmd": "ls",
    "delta": "0:00:00.007621",
    "end": "2017-02-17 23:04:41.912570",
    "invocation": {
        "module_args": {
            "_raw_params": "ls",
            "_uses_shell": true,
            "chdir": null,
            "creates": null,
            "executable": null,
            "removes": null,
            "warn": true
        },
        "module_name": "command"
    },
    "rc": 0,
    "start": "2017-02-17 23:04:41.904949",
    "stderr": "",
    "stdout": "play.retry\nplay.yml",
    "stdout_lines": [
        "play.retry",
        "play.yml"
    ],
    "warnings": []
}

As you can see this will print out the response of each of the modules, and all of the fields available. You can see that the stdout_lines is available, and its contents are what we expect.

To answer your main question about the jenkins_script module, if you check its documentation, you can see that it returns the output in the output field, so you might want to try the following:

tasks:
  - jenkins_script:
      script: (...)
    register: jenkins_result

  - debug:
      var: jenkins_result.output

writing to serial port from linux command line

SCREEN:

NOTE: screen is actually not able to send hex, as far as I know. To do that, use echo or printf

I was using the suggestions in this post to write to a serial port, then using the info from another post to read from the port, with mixed results. I found that using screen is an "easier" solution, since it opens a terminal session directly with that port. (I put easier in quotes, because screen has a really weird interface, IMO, and takes some further reading to figure it out.)

You can issue this command to open a screen session, then anything you type will be sent to the port, plus the return values will be printed below it:

screen /dev/ttyS0 19200,cs8

(Change the above to fit your needs for speed, parity, stop bits, etc.) I realize screen isn't the "linux command line" as the post specifically asks for, but I think it's in the same spirit. Plus, you don't have to type echo and quotes every time.

ECHO:

Follow praetorian droid's answer. HOWEVER, this didn't work for me until I also used the cat command (cat < /dev/ttyS0) while I was sending the echo command.

PRINTF:

I found that one can also use printf's '%x' command:

c="\x"$(printf '%x' 0x12)
printf $c >> $SERIAL_COMM_PORT

Again, for printf, start cat < /dev/ttyS0 before sending the command.

Loop through properties in JavaScript object with Lodash

It would be helpful to understand why you need to do this with lodash. If you just want to check if a key exists in an object, you don't need lodash.

myObject.options.hasOwnProperty('property');

If your looking to see if a value exists, you can use _.invert

_.invert(myObject.options)[value]

Standard way to embed version into python package?

For what it's worth, if you're using NumPy distutils, numpy.distutils.misc_util.Configuration has a make_svn_version_py() method that embeds the revision number inside package.__svn_version__ in the variable version .

MVC DateTime binding with incorrect date format

        if (filterContext.HttpContext.Request.RequestType == "GET")
        {

            foreach (var parameter in filterContext.ActionParameters)
            {
                var properties = parameter.Value.GetType().GetProperties();

                foreach (var property in properties)
                {

                        if (DateTime.TryParse(filterContext.HttpContext.Request.QueryString[property.Name], CultureInfo.CurrentUICulture, DateTimeStyles.None, out dateTime))
                            property.SetValue(parameter.Value, dateTime,null);
                    }
                }

            }
        }
    }
}

string.IsNullOrEmpty(string) vs. string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(string)

What about this for a catch all...

if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(x.Trim())
{
}

This will trim all the spaces if they are there avoiding the performance penalty of IsWhiteSpace, which will enable the string to meet the "empty" condition if its not null.

I also think this is clearer and its generally good practise to trim strings anyway especially if you are putting them into a database or something.

How do I convert a calendar week into a date in Excel?

A simple solution is to do this formula:

A1*7+DATE(A2,1,1)

If it returns a Wednesday, simply change the formula to:

(A1*7+DATE(A2,1,1))-2

This will only work for dates within one calendar year.

Bootstrap 3: How do you align column content to bottom of row

I don't know why but for me the solution proposed by Marius Stanescu is breaking the specificity of col (a col-md-3 followed by a col-md-4 will take all of the twelve row)

I found another working solution :

.bottom-column
{
   display: inline-block;
   vertical-align: middle;
   float: none;
}

GROUP_CONCAT ORDER BY

You can use SEPARATOR and ORDER BY inside the GROUP_CONCAT function in this way:

SELECT li.client_id, group_concat(li.percentage ORDER BY li.views ASC SEPARATOR ',')
AS views, group_concat(li.percentage ORDER BY li.percentage ASC SEPARATOR ',') FROM li
GROUP BY client_id;

Does Spring @Transactional attribute work on a private method?

If you need to wrap a private method inside a transaction and don't want to use aspectj, you can use TransactionTemplate.

@Service
public class MyService {

    @Autowired
    private TransactionTemplate transactionTemplate;

    private void process(){
        transactionTemplate.execute(new TransactionCallbackWithoutResult() {
            @Override
            protected void doInTransactionWithoutResult(TransactionStatus status) {
                processInTransaction();
            }
        });

    }

    private void processInTransaction(){
        //...
    }

}

Can't access to HttpContext.Current

Adding a bit to mitigate the confusion here. Even though Darren Davies' (accepted) answer is more straight forward, I think Andrei's answer is a better approach for MVC applications.

The answer from Andrei means that you can use HttpContext just as you would use System.Web.HttpContext.Current. For example, if you want to do this:

System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name

you should instead do this:

HttpContext.User.Identity.Name

Both achieve the same result, but (again) in terms of MVC, the latter is more recommended.

Another good and also straight forward information regarding this matter can be found here: Difference between HttpContext.Current and Controller.Context in MVC ASP.NET.

Java Minimum and Maximum values in Array

You can try this too, If you don't want to do this by your method.

    System.out.println("Min value "+arr[0]);
    System.out.println("Max value "+arr[arr.length-1]);

How can I get the actual video URL of a YouTube live stream?

Yes this is possible Since the question is update, this solution can only gives you the embed url not the HLS url, check @JAL answer. with the ressource search.list and the parameters:

* part: id
* channelId: UCURGpU4lj3dat246rysrWsw
* eventType: live
* type: video

Request :

GET https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/search?part=snippet&channelId=UCURGpU4lj3dat246rysrWsw&eventType=live&type=video&key={YOUR_API_KEY}

Result:

 "items": [
  {
   "kind": "youtube#searchResult",
   "etag": "\"DsOZ7qVJA4mxdTxZeNzis6uE6ck/enc3-yCp8APGcoiU_KH-mSKr4Yo\"",
   "id": {
    "kind": "youtube#video",
    "videoId": "WVZpCdHq3Qg"
   }
  },

Then get the videoID value WVZpCdHq3Qg for example and add the value to this url:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/ + videoID
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= + videoID

Leap year calculation

You could just check if the Year number is divisible by both 4 and 400. You dont really need to check if it is indivisible by 100. The reason 400 comes into question is because according to the Gregorian Calendar, our "day length" is slightly off, and thus to compensate that, we have 303 regular years (365 days each) and 97 leap years (366 days each). The difference of those 3 extra years that are not leap years is to stay in cycle with the Gregorian calendar, which repeats every 400 years. Look up Christian Zeller's congruence equation. It will help understanding the real reason. Hope this helps :)

C fopen vs open

Using open, read, write means you have to worry about signal interaptions.

If the call was interrupted by a signal handler the functions will return -1 and set errno to EINTR.

So the proper way to close a file would be

while (retval = close(fd), retval == -1 && ernno == EINTR) ;

How to save S3 object to a file using boto3

boto3 now has a nicer interface than the client:

resource = boto3.resource('s3')
my_bucket = resource.Bucket('MyBucket')
my_bucket.download_file(key, local_filename)

This by itself isn't tremendously better than the client in the accepted answer (although the docs say that it does a better job retrying uploads and downloads on failure) but considering that resources are generally more ergonomic (for example, the s3 bucket and object resources are nicer than the client methods) this does allow you to stay at the resource layer without having to drop down.

Resources generally can be created in the same way as clients, and they take all or most of the same arguments and just forward them to their internal clients.

Passing properties by reference in C#

This is covered in section 7.4.1 of the C# language spec. Only a variable-reference can be passed as a ref or out parameter in an argument list. A property does not qualify as a variable reference and hence cannot be used.

How to insert 1000 rows at a time

If you have a DataTable in your application, and this is where the 1000 names are coming from, you can use a table-valued parameter for this.

First, a table type:

CREATE TYPE dbo.Names AS TABLE
(
  Name NVARCHAR(255),
  email VARCHAR(320),
  [password] VARBINARY(32) -- surely you are not storing this as a string!?
);

Then a procedure to use this:

CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.Names_BulkInsert
  @Names dbo.Names READONLY
AS
BEGIN
  SET NOCOUNT ON;

  INSERT dbo.RealTable(Name, email, password)
    SELECT Name, email, password
    FROM @Names;
END
GO

Then your C# code can say:

SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("dbo.Names_BulkInsert", connection_object);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
SqlParameter names = cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Names", DataTableName);
names.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Structured;
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();

If you just want to generate 1000 rows with random values:

;WITH x AS
(
  SELECT TOP (1000) n = REPLACE(LEFT(name,32),'_','')
  FROM sys.all_columns ORDER BY NEWID()
)
-- INSERT dbo.sometable(name, email, [password])
SELECT
  name = LEFT(n,3),
  email = RIGHT(n,5) + '@' + LEFT(n,2) + '.com',
  [password] = CONVERT(VARBINARY(32), SUBSTRING(n, 1, 32))
FROM x;

In neither of these cases should you be using while loops or cursors. IMHO.

Hiding elements in responsive layout?

I have a couple of clarifications to add here:

1) The list shown (visible-phone, visible-tablet, etc.) is deprecated in Bootstrap 3. The new values are:

  • visible-xs-*
  • visible-sm-*
  • visible-md-*
  • visible-lg-*
  • hidden-xs-*
  • hidden-sm-*
  • hidden-md-*
  • hidden-lg-*

The asterisk translates to the following for each (I show only visible-xs-* below):

  • visible-xs-block
  • visible-xs-inline
  • visible-xs-inline-block

2) When you use these classes, you don't add a period in front (as confusingly shown in part of the answer above).

For example:

<div class="visible-md-block col-md-6 text-right text-muted">
   <h5>Copyright &copy; 2014 Jazimov</h5>
</div>

3) You can use visible-* and hidden-* (for example, visible-xs and hidden-xs) but these have been deprecated in Bootstrap 3.2.0.

For more details and the latest specs, go here and search for "visible": http://getbootstrap.com/css/

commons httpclient - Adding query string parameters to GET/POST request

Here is how you would add query string parameters using HttpClient 4.2 and later:

URIBuilder builder = new URIBuilder("http://example.com/");
builder.setParameter("parts", "all").setParameter("action", "finish");

HttpPost post = new HttpPost(builder.build());

The resulting URI would look like:

How to Update a Component without refreshing full page - Angular

One of many solutions is to create an @Injectable() class which holds data that you want to show in the header. Other components can also access this class and alter this data, effectively changing the header.

Another option is to set up @Input() variables and @Output() EventEmitters which you can use to alter the header data.

Edit Examples as you requested:

@Injectable()
export class HeaderService {
    private _data;
    set data(value) {
        this._data = value;
    }
    get data() {
        return this._data;
    }
}

in other component:

constructor(private headerService: HeaderService) {}

// Somewhere
this.headerService.data = 'abc';

in header component:

let headerData;

constructor(private headerService: HeaderService) {
    this.headerData = this.headerService.data;
}

I haven't actually tried this. If the get/set doesn't work you can change it to use a Subject();

// Simple Subject() example:
let subject = new Subject();
this.subject.subscribe(response => {
  console.log(response); // Logs 'hello'
});
this.subject.next('hello');

Difference between String replace() and replaceAll()

In java.lang.String, the replace method either takes a pair of char's or a pair of CharSequence's (of which String is a subclass, so it'll happily take a pair of String's). The replace method will replace all occurrences of a char or CharSequence. On the other hand, the first String arguments of replaceFirst and replaceAll are regular expressions (regex). Using the wrong function can lead to subtle bugs.
